(00:24):
The way tire buying should be. Jampax show tonight, all
kinds of college football stuff. Which teams can win the
National Championship? Well, according to a formula, there are sixteen
that could, but there are percentages and one according to
this formula has been pretty accurate going back to twenty eleven.

(00:48):
We will share with you who we think it will
be based on the formula a little bit later in
the show, got a nine chance according to this formula.
Realignment it is upon us in a big way. But
greening alignment's been going on since twenty four and the
untold story, We're going to get to that. How about

(01:10):
the new playoff format, Yes, we're going to talk about
that at length as well. I love it, but I
will tell you there are some pros and cons based
on some people who've studied it. We'll get into some
must watch games this fall, and later on the show
we complete our final two projections in the AFC, the

(01:33):
FC South and the AFC West. And of course don't
forget what kind of brand new fool of you and
what my name new epic additions. But first, I'd like
to thank the Florida State Seminoles for participating in the
twenty twenty fourth season. Whoever decided to rank them tenth
for your first in line for frontal of botomy. If
you watched the game today and hopefully it did come

(01:55):
on to college football, you've been waiting for it for
seven months. Even Stevie Wonder could see the fact that
Florida State could not run the ball, but they made
up for it by not stopping the run. That defense
couldn't stop a parade. All those big name players who
made their bones are in the NFL now too bad,

(02:17):
I guess so since not getting their playoff berth last year,
which I think they can stop complaining about, because they've
ruined whatever goodwill they had earned by going undefeated last year.
Since not getting that bid, they've lost to Georgia sixty
three to three, and now they've lost to Georgia Tech

(02:38):
twenty four to twenty one. The good news is for
the remainder of the season, you don't have to play
any more teams from Georgia. But you do have Clemson,
and you do have to go to Miami, and you
have to visit Notre Dame, and you got Florida. So
best of luck to you, best of luck to all
parties involved with Florida State football. As they open up

(03:00):
the Week zero campaign in Dublin, not Dublin, Ohio, Dublin,
Ireland to kick off the new college football season, they're
upset by Georgia Tech. Every sharp I know was all
over Georgia Tech like a hobole on a ham sandwich.
The line actually opened up at thirteen and a half
closed a ten. I don't know how in the hell

(03:21):
this Florida State team would be laying double digits to
a conference opponent week one on any neutral field. Based
on what's happened, and there have been a couple of
takeaways from the game, fans can be brutal. One of
the big takeaways was the Yellow Jackets really were able
to essentially stemy Florida State's offense. Why a very mediocre

(03:48):
game from Dju? Yeah, you remember, DJU transferred to Florida
State after spending last season Oregon State. Before that, he
played at Clemson for three seasons. Never ever lived up
to the lofty billing. He was a five star prep
recruit out of California, and if you watched him on Saturday,
he was incredibly underwhelming everything I thought he wouldn't be

(04:10):
in less. Yeah, he completed nineteen to twenty seven, one
hundred ninety three yards, no touchdowns, no picks. Now, on paper,
that doesn't look terrible, but the game's not played on
paper because a lot of those a lot of his
stats were padded by some fourth quarter completions. It didn't
really matter much. And by the way, for most of
the game, if you watched the game again, Dju struggled mightily.

(04:33):
When having to throw the ball downfield. He was content
kind of tossed it around the line of scrimmage, the
ultimate dink and duck. Matter of fact, in the first half,
he was twelve or fourteen for a whopping ninety six yards.
Are you kidding me? I mean that's less than one yard.
Forget it. Let's forget the numbers, the eye. This is

(04:54):
one game where the eyes tell you the story and
fans ruthlessly. They were all over DJU on Twitter for
some people that are just I don't know who the
hell these people are. Somebody named Nick put Billy, this
is DJ. He's got this mima Jonah Hill. Right, this

(05:18):
is DJU. He's got Jonah Hill on a chalkboard talking
to a group and he's saying it's a takeoff from Moneyball.
He says, Billy, this is DJU. He's built like a linebacker,
with the speed and athleticism a running back, the ultimate
weapon of quarterback. He's only defect back. In nineteen oh four,
the forward path was invented. This team lost every good

(05:41):
player they had brought in DJ to be their quarterback
into the season with a sixty point loss. New idiots
ranked them number ten in the country. That's from someone
named Brandon on Twitter. DJ Hoill, we have to throw
the ball more than five yards down the field. On
and on and on and on, DJU. This is the

(06:01):
memo from the transfer portal. We let all customers know
that results may vary when you use our service. Right,
we would be here all four hours reading the Dju
tweets and they just were bashing them. But how about
giving Georgia Tech a little credit. Georgia Tech, I thought,
not only did they play a solid football game, there

(06:24):
were times where they got themselves into trouble. But as
you know, it's not what happens in life, it's how
you react, and they reacted well. Late in the third quarter,
Haines King fumbled on a second and three, handing off
the ball. But give the right guard credited dot he
dove on it. There were multiple Florida State defenders around
the ball, but their right guard dove on the ball.

(06:46):
They lost nine yards on the play, but then the
very next play they ran up the middle of the
leak Rutherford fifteen yards. Three plays later, Georgia Tech scores
to take a twenty one to fourteen lead. So they
were resilient, they were strong, and they look strong at quarterback.
They look strong up front. Haines King played a solid game,
all right, because what he did was impactful. The numbers

(07:07):
weren't great. And then of course the kicker. The kicker
comes on at the end of the game. And you know,
mister Burr, not Bill Burr, the comedian. I don't think
anybody was laughing in Florida State. So the yellowgan Jackets
have a bit of a new look and their new
coach Key got a lot of pub his staff. They
looked like a well prepared team that knew how to
finish and can they make some noise in the conference?

(07:29):
Why not? I think today's game, I think Saturday's game
was a metaphor for what you can expect from college
football this year other than Georgia and Okayhouse State on
paper and Aaron brings up a lot of good points
until Ryan Day does it. I mean I had my
buddy Dan Leech from ninety seven to one one compadres

(07:50):
from Michigan. Last night we talked about it, and you know,
Ohio State's got to go to Oregon, and then you know,
he still got Michigan and even they may end up
playing Oregon and he thinks it could be a rough
ride for Ryan Day if they don't get it done.
And I think that's probably true. And as far as
Florida State, if they have any designs, I'm repeating as

(08:13):
ACC champion, it's gonna be a lot different path than
it was a year ago. You don't have Jordan Travis
or Tree Benson or Kean Coleman or Johnny Wilson or
Shaheen Bill anymore. That was the league's highest scoring offense.
They're all gone. DJU, Come on, he was he was okay,
he was adequate. But he doesn't have the same downfield

(08:34):
threats that Travis had last season. But so what if
he did show show me the highlight reel where DJU
was was, you know, showing off his skills as a
great downfield thrower. So Florida State needs weapons. They need
their defense to step up. They look like a sieve.
They gave up a lot of yards on the ground Saturday.

(08:55):
Their defense really struggled. Georgia Tech average almost five and
a half yards per carry. They had a lot of
big chunk players in the first half because FSU and
their gap integrity was brutal, brutal, and I get it.
They replaced their top two tacklers, Kaylin Delouche and Tatum Bethoom.
That's life, that's what happens in college football. You reload

(09:16):
players move. I guess Clemson is now the ACC's new favorite.
Florida State entered the game again. I don't know who
puts these numbers together, maybe the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders and
fifty four percent chance to make the college football playoff
according to the College Football Projection Model. What the hell
does that be? That? In fifty sense it gets you

(09:38):
a cup of coffee at Burger Chef. So the good
news is we got football, and you know, was it
interesting football? Yeah? It was? I thought it was. I
enjoyed the game. Look, was it in many senses in
an artful game? Sure? But you've been starving for football
now for seven months. So let's put it this way.

(10:02):
I mean, if you're starving and you look into the refrigerator,
all you guys are Tina's burrito there, You're going to
eat it and you're probably going to enjoy it because
you're starving. Coming up, Dave Sheapan's going to join us.
We'll talk about how the new plant format in college football,
the realignment may affect the betting handles, and we'll get
into the NFL as well. It is our final weekend

(12:10):
my good buddy Dave Sherpan, Hi Dave, how Ari.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
Pal Ernie Frado, great to great to hear your voice.
Great to be here and coming into the four TOMPs,
Sugar Fie, honey bunch, I mean, come on, wre you go?

Speaker 2 (12:25):
You know there you go?

Speaker 5 (12:26):
I had only you know what I open, wait and talk.
And then this Hawaii Delaware State game that really interesting.
It's the first late night sweat of the college football
season and Week zero, which usually is about zero but man,
what a day of college football. And it's that time
of year, burn you know, everybody's the buzzers and the books,

(12:48):
and it's officially football season.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
And of course, as you know, I only use motown
music as my bumpers only. And so anyway, David, bottom line,
you're right or off of running some interesting games today.
The dogs are certainly barking. What I want to dive into, though, Dave,
is this will be a unique year in college football.

(13:12):
Let's start with the new playoff format, which I love.
How do you how do you, if any project, if
any reason, project that the handles may change given the
fact that more teams qualify for the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (13:29):
Oh, I think it's going to be fantastic for books.
More uncertainty, I think, you know, just when you look
at the conference ons trying to determine one which teams,
let alone how many teams are going to be in
it from each conference, you know, because it's usually just

(13:52):
an SEC party and they let the big ten in
once in a while, maybe a Big twelve team. There's
no more pact. Well, and now there's a lot more
questions than answers it and I think just that opens
it up for bigger handle. I think more uncertainty for

(14:15):
college football is really good for the books, one hundred percent, David.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
Let's in addition to that, let's talk about realignment, because
fifteen schools are joining new conferences this year and it's
going to take a minute, I think, for people to
adjustin get used to it. How might that affect the handle?

Speaker 5 (14:34):
Oh, that's definitely going to affect the Handle. You're going
to hear all the West Coast teams traveling east like
we hear in the NFL, and you're going to hear
all about that in college now because there's a lot
of cross country trips. Teams like USC and UCLA, Oregon,
Washington are in the Big Ten And that doesn't even

(14:55):
make sense until I see it. And even when I
see it, it's still not going to make sense. I mean,
I'm already trying to make plans to see Penn State
play at USC in October and that's a regular season
Big Ten game. My kid, I can't make sense of
it at all. Arizona Arizona State is in the Big twelve.

(15:17):
What I mean, that's a conference I think is going
to do really well handlewise for the books, because that
was always a fun conference, but it was dominated and
now I think, you know, everybody's just kind of handed
at the UTAH and there's a lot of buzz around
the books that like Utah is just going to cannot

(15:38):
walk through the conference, but who's going to challenge them?
And then when you ask that question, you legitimately get
like seven different answers of who the number two team
is going to be. So I think it's going to
be great.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
I really really Do you mentioned travel, David, I'm glad
you did. Let's take a school at UCLA. They'll they'll
accumulate the most frequent flyer miles this year twenty two
thousand because they got to go to Hawaii, they got
to go to LSU, you got paying state, Rutgers Nebraska.
How is that going to affect the handle? Do you

(16:11):
take travel into consideration?

Speaker 5 (16:14):
Well, betters always do burn and I think for the
first time, really, I think oddsmakers and books will will
actually shade lines a little bit when it's the second
or even third trip across three time zones and they're

(16:34):
you know, West Coast team with the body clock is
playing an early game, you know, a new game in
the East Coast times was nine am. So it's just
a different thing. And now multiple times doing it, I
think it's going to affect it. You might get an
argument that it won't right away, but I know if
we're sitting in a room somewhere, I'd be like, you know, Burn,

(16:56):
I think we got to shave this a couple of
points for points because people are going to bet it. Now.
Whether it gets you to the window at the end,
we'll see, but I think it's definitely a factor.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Well, I'll tell you listen, you look for market inefficiencies.
And I know it's easy to say now, but have
a lunch with crack Man and Jim Feiston matt On
on Friday, and how in God's Green Earth Flora Steak
would be laying double digits in a neutral field against
the conference opponent. At what point, Dave, did the book
start to get a little sharper in college football and

(17:30):
you know, begin to diminish some of these market inefficiencies.

Speaker 5 (17:34):
I think after next week, like we got, we got
a really good slate of games in what I like
to call Week one where mostly everybody's playing, and it
will start to affect Like all the look aheadlines is
a more recent thing probably in the past five years,

(17:55):
maybe even as far back as six or seven. But
you never really put up college football lines for every
week this far in advance because of all the uncertainty.
It used to be just special games of the year.
Ohio State Michigan always had a line on it, something
like that. But now you get a lot more numbers early,

(18:17):
and believe me, they're going to be shaded moved adjusted
very early. Now when do they get really good. I
think the numbers get really good when conference play really starts.
Like the first couple of weeks in September, not so much.

(18:39):
But by the time we get to October, the leaves
start changing, the numbers start getting really good, especially the totals.
I mean, it's tough in the beginning for both sides
of the counter. And I mean obviously today with those
big numbers, it's preseason for the oddsmakers too, and it
never usually goes like this where all the dawn to

(19:00):
look like today are going to cover and that's good
for the books, But you can't beat twenty eight points
off on a game and different things like that. That's
just that's a miss. I mean, that's one of those
ones that you're well, okay, maybe slide that power rating
down a little bit. In Florida State's one of the
teams I think that is going to it's gonna fall

(19:21):
drastically in a lot of guys power rates.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
One last thing on college Thursday Night, a much anticipated game.
Looks like Colorado's really getting steam. They're up to nine
and a half. I know North Dakota State is not
what they've been in past years, but are still very
good and they've got a great culture. You think North
Dakota State hangs that number Thursday.

Speaker 5 (19:40):
Night, cool man, there's a lot of buzz about it. Yeah,
I think it's one of those ones that it's more
of a play against Colorado than it is. Aren't North
Dakota State. But North Dakota State is one of those
teams that have drawn interest so many times in years past.

(20:03):
So again, everything's different year to year, but betters don't
always think that way. So let's burn. I think there's
a lot of animosity and like, you know, a lot
of guys can't wait to bet against Colorado. Now, whether
that's sharp public pros Joe's I don't know, but man,
I don't. I mean, I'm looking at my odde screen.

(20:24):
Right now, I have a nine to nine and a
half and a ten, so it's already on the move. Yeah,
it's all over the.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
Place, Dave. Let's jump to the NFL ever so quickly.
I want to talk about two teams. I cannot make
a case for Dallas to go over there win until
the ten and a half. I think they're mentally fractured
right now for all the reasons you already know. I
feel like they're going off a cliff this year. Eight
nine win team. I could be wrong, Tell me what
you think.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
I agree with you one hundred percent. Matt and I
have been talking on them about Tony versus the book.
We did a Dallas you know team day look at
their season win total. I feel like they have a
lot of turmoil going on. It's kind of being brushed over,
and it's the fact that you know, the best receiver,
Seed Lamb's not there. When's he going to show up?

(21:12):
As you going to show up and like be himself.
I think a lot of period of adjustment here. Surprised
that the number hasn't come down, but we know that
Dallas love is real and that's that's a little bit
of time the Rogers stallback. I mean, it's been decades
that people like to bet Dallas and the over.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
Well if they surprised me beat Cleveland in Cleveland, given
the fact that Cleveland's quarterback situation looks really dubious right now.
But I still like Cleveland in that game. I like
that defense at home. They don't give up a lot
of yards. Finally, I got to talk about your Steelers.
You a short on this. I am telling you, with
all due respect to Justin Fields. I think he's a
stellar individual. He was brilliant at Ohio State. He's not

(21:55):
a major league quarterback, and I got all the numbers
to prove it, and my eyeballs tell me he's not
a major league quarterback. You're going to have to hold
your nose and go with Russell Wilson. But am I
the only guy on that planet that thinks he's got
a little bit left in the tank and you just
leave him alone your thoughts.

Speaker 5 (22:10):
It's a it's a real discussion. I know back home,
all of my guys are acting forth and they're the
kind of siding was you. In the end, You've got
to go with the veteran guy. That's why you brought
him here, et cetera, et cetera. I hope he has something,
but I would bet right now that he does not
play all seventeen games and justin right, yeah, he's going

(22:32):
to be a big part of the offense at some point.
I heard today they're talking about slash or two and
they're going to bring that.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
That's what they should do. All they can do is run.
There's a reason he's ten and twenty eight as a starter.
Go ahead, you got the last word.

Speaker 5 (22:48):
Well, I would hope that they do do that. I
hope that there's a role for him because I think
he can help the team. There's a lot more questions
than answers on especially on offense. I feel like the
window on a great defense in Pittsburgh is closing, closer
to closing than being, you know, in its prime. And
to see it wasted with an eight or nine win season, man,

(23:10):
that's a bomber. I don't think they're making the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
Brun Dave's great stuff. As always, We'll get you on
as the season continues, and best to you and Matt
and your endeavors in Boston versus the.

Speaker 5 (23:21):
Book, Thank you, sir. A little Temptations maybe on the
way out we're talk.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Get you, We'll get They'll definitely be some of tonight's show.
My friend a good legend, Dave Shearpin, Thanks, Dave, I
appreciate you man. Dave Sharpain, he's done it all. He
knows what it looks like behind the counter, in front
of the counter. He's got lots of media chops. Good
guy all the way around. Good friend of mine here
in Vegas. The last fourteen years coming up. I am

(23:48):
all about the new college football playoff and the field,
as you know, is expanded from four to teams to twelve.
How's it going to work? Is it a good idea?
I say yes. However, there are pros and cons. There
are actually people that don't like some aspects of it.
Will break that down. Kevin up, and first let's go
to our update. Guy Kevin Ware at the chef.

Speaker 6 (24:11):
Yeah, Bernie A college football beginning this week with week zero,
much like a zero period in high school, and we
already had it upset as Georgia Tech going to Dublin
in finding an upset at the end of the rainbow.

Speaker 7 (24:25):
Out the shoulders. He's righting set down for him, boot
it up. It's tumbling, it's turning.

Speaker 8 (24:30):
It is the hornet, the luck of the Iris, It's
the heart of the Jackets. At Georgia Tech knocks off
number tenth Florida State Bottle four twenty four twenty one.

Speaker 6 (24:51):
That was the Georgia Tech Sports Network from a lear
field with the call as the Yellow Jackets upsetting the
tenth rank Florida State Seminals twenty four to twenty one
one in Dublin, Ireland on that forty four yard field goal.
And after the controversy of Florida State getting left out
of the playoff last season despite being undefeated, well, at
least right now, being undefeated isn't a problem for them anymore.

(25:13):
SMU sixteen points in the last eight minutes to win
at Nevada twenty nine to twenty four. We had an
FCS over FBS upset those fire me up as Montana
State three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to beat the
New Mexico Lobos thirty five to thirty one. As for
the professional ranks, we did have some preseason action as

(25:35):
the Sea Hawks led the NFL's late night exhibition twenty
seven to twenty one, and the Chargers win at Dallas
twenty six to nineteen Trey last with a touchdown pass
eight interceptions. The Jets beat the Giants ten to six,
eight sacks for the Jets defense. Carolina wins at thirty
one to twenty six at Buffalo.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
And in Major.

Speaker 6 (25:53):
League Baseball, the Rays hit home runs in the ninth
and tenth innings to beat the Dodgers nine eight at snaps.
LA's five game winning streak and right now LA leads
the NLST by just three games. Cleveland beats Texas thirteen
to five, Minnesota six to zero over the Cardinals. Philadelphia
wins at Kansas City eleven to two. The Yankees do

(26:15):
lose to the Cardinals nine to two, and Baltimore wins
three to two against Houston. So that lead in the
Al East for New York now just half a game.
Once again, that's been a crazy division so far this season.
In the WNBA, Minnesota beats Indiana ninety to eighty as
Kaitlin Clark had twenty three points, eight assists and seven turnovers.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
All right back to you, Berny, All right, JEF, Back
to back, Knights, we rocking and rolling. The college football
Playoff era a real playoff now twelve teams in the tournament,
the sixth highest ranked conference champs an automatic bid from
their six highest ranks teams. Well, they'll all be invited
to the College Football Playoff, as opposed to the old

(27:00):
made for TV Invitational tournament, which I truly hated. Before that,
we had the BCS met not so much, and before
that you had the AP and UPI voting. Don't even
get me started on that. What are the pros and cons?
Because I know they're there. You know, people like to complain.

(27:20):
Let's start with the pros. More teams are involved, all right,
I think this is what you need. As I just mentioned,
let's reiterate the format. You'll have the sixth highest ranked
conference champs conference champs automatically concluded included, which means the
group of five will be represented. Just win your championship

(27:43):
to be the highest ranked team. Beyond what it means
for the group of five, well, I think you're still
going to have high quality matchups between programs that have
even never met before, or maybe they haven't met in
a long time. And for that to happen, that's how
you create a twelve team tournament based on deserving teams.
Twelve teams, not four or two cons there's still going

(28:05):
to be complaints. You know that last year the nation
was divided on Florida State when the College Football Playoff
Committee left the Seminoles out, even though they were undefeated.
It was a bummer because the quarterback went down and
there was a clause within the by laws of the
selection committee that if the roster was compromised due to

(28:26):
the loss of an impact player, they could make an adjustment,
which they did. Now see, if this year's format was
last year's format, Florida State would have been included. We'll
never truly know if Florida State would have held their
own in the playoff last year with their third string quarterback.
It's presumed they wouldn't, but it's theoretical. See now, it's

(28:49):
going to be decided on the field no matter what.
But regardless, there's going to be complaints, trust me. And
one of the things I will tell you when Louke Pohlene,
they didn't discover this until today. Because if you're if
you're the if you have won your conference championship, let's

(29:09):
say you are Let's say you are a group of
five school and you win your conference, but you are
ranked lower than twelve you're gonna get the twelve seed.
That's the way it's gonna work. Let's say you ranked fourteenth,
you won your conference, but your ranked fourteenth, you're gonna
get the twelve seed. Now, let's say there was a

(29:31):
team ranked twelve but they didn't get into the playoffs,
so they were technically ranked higher than a team to
win their conference championship. They're gonna complain. They're gonna believe
they were better for whatever reason. Maybe they had a
tougher schedule, you know, maybe had a bad call to
kept them out of the playoff. Whatever. Just wait, they'll
still be they'll still be complaints. But nonetheless, when you've
got twelve teams, you've got I think, a much more

(29:54):
representative tournament that could be decided on the field over
a full month. Another pro to this new format, it's
going to require a longer path to crown a true champion.
In the past, you only had to win two games
or one game. Now you're going to have to win
four unless you get a buye, then you have to

(30:15):
still win three. I mean, it's a very difficult competition,
but most likely you will have earned that buying. It's
not going to just be handed to you. Of course,
one of the cons is there's going to be arguments
about buys. The four highest ranked teams who are going
to receive a buy in the first round of the playoffs.
That means making the top four still means something. So

(30:38):
for those folks who like to argue that this is
going to diminish the regular season, I don't believe so
at all. You're going to be I think it's going
to enhance the regular season because it's going to allow
teams to remain in the conversation longer as the season
goes on, as they vie for a coveted birth in
this playoff tournament. But people will argue anyway, you're not
going to have everybody happy be There're gonna be plenty

(31:01):
of fans upset over which teams were granted to buy
in which teams were not. Another one of the big pros,
I love the fact that they're going to have games
on college campuses. So the first couple of rounds, you know,
if you have a buy, for instance, your first game
will be on your It'll be a home game for

(31:21):
you on your on your own campus. And I think
that that makes a hell of a lot more sense
than having two teams like Alabama and Michigan who played
in the Rose Bowl, neither one was even remotely close
to Pasadena. What good does that do their student body?
Maybe they can't afford to, you know, fly across country. Now,
it hasn't really been much of an issue during previous playoffs.

(31:43):
Neutral site bowl games, you know, are typical. But what
this does is add a new layer of excitement because
when you have a first round taking place in the
campus of a participating team, trust me, that will only
add the excitement. Of course, there's one other con. People
are going to be angry over conferences that are favored

(32:04):
your Dave Sherrip Pans say a minute ago, it's usually
an SEC fest in the old format. He's not wrong.
And then you know there some you know, the Big
ten would sneak in there, the Big twelve would sneak
in there occasionally, and occasionally the pa Pac twelve would
sneak in there. But it was really an SEC tournament.
Just look at the winners in the final. Almost every year,

(32:26):
you know, an set team is in the final. I
think last year was the first year, I can't remember
how many years, because he had Washington in Michigan. That'll
be a talking point. All right, this is going to
carry over that the committee is going to favor certain conferences.
You're gonna add eight additional participants, but I guarantee that
some people will start calling this the SEC Big Ten Invitational.

(32:47):
Although if you start to shake it out and look
at the rankings, it would not surprise me if fully
six of the twelve teams are from the SEC and
the Big Ten, and we'll see, you know, but there
will be other conferences represented. But I think there's at
least going to be a lot more merit getting into
this tournament than than than before one of the pros.

(33:08):
We're gonna get more playoff games, more meaningful postseason games.
The college football you know, the powers to be, they've
essentially now over the last twenty years, rendered bowl games
meaningless their exhibitions. There are reason to party if it's
not a game that can earn you a national title.
Players and fans, they're not nearly as interested. You see

(33:30):
it in attendance, you see it, and players not playing.
Matter of fact, you've seen many times players often make
decisions to opt out of the non CFP Bowl games
because I don't want to get hurt. They want to
preserve their health for the NFL draft. But now you
open up the field, you introduce more games. Fans are
being gifted many more opportunities where they're going to be,

(33:50):
you know, seeing their favorite players want to give it
all in the postseason. In the four team era, only
two bowl games matter in the eyes of most of
the folks. You know, it's been many years. You've forgotten
Christian McCaffery. He didn't play in his bowl game. And
this is the final con And I don't agree with
this at all. There are gonna be folks that argue
that it's gonna make the regular season less meaningful. I

(34:13):
think that's a controversial talking point, and I don't agree
with it. I think that the regular season will be
every bit as important as it's always been, if not
more so. Just wait and see the conversations we have
heading into October and November coming out. Speaking of conversations, well,

(34:35):
let's pretend you are a columnist in Denver and you
are fond of nicknames like well the Bruce leea BS
or the false Prophet. You may be showing the door.
Maybe you are already showing the door. We'll chop that
coming up. I'm Bernie Fraddle, Comedy Lion from Las Vegas,
Fox Sports Radio, TIREC dot Com studios. Keep it locked.

(34:57):
They listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (35:04):
All right, back at the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio,
Comedy Life forth, tarret dot Com studios here in Las Vegas.
As you have seen, the Colorado University Athletics Department has
informed Denver Post that head coach Dion Sanders and anyone
else within the Buffs program will no longer take questions
from a columnist by the name of Sean Keeler and

(35:27):
uh Keeler has referred to Sanders as the false prophet
and deposition Dion Plannet Prime, Bruce Lee of BS Dion
kool Aid Circus, and the statement issued was after a
series of sustained personal attacks and specifically coach Prime, We've
decided not to take questions. That is weak as hell.

(35:50):
I'm sorry and I heard sombit the other day where
Dan says, why do you come here? Why do you
like it? You don't like me, so why do you
do this? He gets paid to do it, just like
you get paid. That's why you might not like his takes.
What do you care? Can you imagine? You know, the
Denver media is pretty good media, not anywhere near as

(36:13):
tough as Boston or Philadelphia or New York. Can you imagine? Uh? Shaye.
I want to get your thoughts on this because I
talked on it at length Friday night. Everybody knows how
I feel. I just this is wrong. It is wrong.
As ran on opening.

Speaker 9 (36:28):
Day, No, I completely agree. This man's got an ego
that I've never seen before. And like, to be honest,
when when this, like when I first saw this kind
of happening, when Sanders is like accused healer of always
being on the attack, like quote, by the way, that's
a quote, and then he asks what happened to get
you like this? I was like, Oh, this is fine,
Like he's matching his energy, he's going back at him,
and like I kind of like it when coaches are

(36:50):
able to go back at reporters in person. But when
he bans him from the entire thing, like come on, like,
there's only a few situations where I think it's okay
to banner reporter, like we saw.

Speaker 2 (37:03):
He's can't banned he just can't ask questions.

Speaker 9 (37:06):
So he's allowed to go, but he just can't ask
any questions.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
That's right, You're not allowed to ask questions. So remind
me of this Scion failed episode where his dad wanted
to come to work and then he's talking to you, gay,
I said, you could come to work, but you can't
talk to anybody. I mean, they're treating the guy like
a little kid. This is just frankly, I think this
is unprecedented. I've seen reporters banned before. I saw it
in Detroit and know why. I'm not going to go
in with the reasons. However, the way they're doing it

(37:31):
here is purely to mollify Deon's eagle exactly.

Speaker 9 (37:35):
And that's and I was about to say, we saw
earlier in this season with the WNBA with that Caitlin
Clark reporter getting banned because of what he said, and
that was completely warranted. Like I completely agree with that,
But when it's something like this, you're just like, dude,
like you're being a little baby, Like like me and
my friends were always like we'll make fun of each
other and we'll make little arguments. But if my friend
was to go, you're not allowed to speak in my
house anymore, I'd be like, dude, what are you talking about.

(37:56):
So it's like, this is just a situation with a
big ego that got a little bit like hurt, it
seems like, and he just took it way too far.
I mean again, if he just kept it at going
at him, saying something during the press conference and letting
him ask his questions, I think this would have benefited,
honestly a coach Sanders. But now that he did all
of this, I think it's just a bad look, bad

(38:18):
look for him. It's even though he has a big ego,
it's just going to make it look even worse. And
I just it's not a good thing at all in
my eyes.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
Chef, real quickly, what are your thoughts?

Speaker 6 (38:28):
Yeah, the time and energy he's spent going after the
media and worrying about that is time and energy he's
not spent preparing his team for what's going to be
arguably a tougher Big twelve schedule than what he faced
in the Pac twelve last year when he went four
and eight. And this isn't something you see from winning
football coaches. Lincoln Riley. We saw last year banning reporter
and how did USC do that year. It's not a

(38:51):
sign that a program is healthy. And you know what,
we'll get criticism to wane the simplest solution win.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
Some football games go better than four and eight.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
There you go, and I'm glad you brought that up, Chef,
because all eyes And by the way, the game Thursday
night is not sold out in Colorado. I don't know
if you guys knew that. I think Diane reacted to
that as well, saying, what are y'all waiting for tickets?
Or come onut, what let's call it, let's go. I
mean last year, everybody wanted to be there. This year,
that's kind of revealing. And all of a sudden, now

(39:20):
the bloom is off the roads. They open up against
a very game North Dakota State team and then they
traveled to Nebraska, an all time of rivalry. And I
think Nebraska major uptick this year with Matt Rule in
that program and their freshman quarterback Dylan Riolo, the son
of former Lions center Dominic Riola. Kids got all kind

(39:41):
of ability and if he just doesn't turn the dam
bowl over. Nebraska turned over the ball last year with
such frequency. He started to wonder if that was a
football or a grease pig. It was ridiculous. So I
think it best. I think it best. Colorado starts out
one and one, and as Shudor Sanders likes to call athletes,
it doesn't like mid. I think Colorado's gonna be mid.

(40:03):
It's going to be fun to watch year. If they win,
they're gonna have a story. If they lose, they're gonna
have a story. Oh, by the way, they're in a
new conference, a tough conference. We'll get to that later
because coming up, we're gonna talk about the price of
college football realignment. It's been going on for twenty years.
I'm Bernie Fradda. We're company live from the tyreq dot
com studios. Keep it locked. Fox Sports Radio. That's right,

(40:27):

(40:47):
dot com the way tired buying should be. We are
absolutely entering a very very very very unique era in
college football, and if you haven't done your homework, you
might be a little confused the first few weeks, maybe
the entire season, because if you're used to seeing Callen

(41:11):
Stanford in the Pac twelve, it doesn't exist anymore. They're
in the ACC, which to me is a little weird
because you've got two teams next to the Pacific Ocean
in a conference based in the Atlantic Ocean. Then, of
course that SMU. They are also now in the ACC,
the Big Twelve. Well, former Pac twelve compadres Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado,

(41:35):
and Utah all four of them are now in the
Big Twelve. How about the Big Ten? Oregon joins the
Big Ten, as does UCLA, USC and Washington finally in
the SEC. Oklahoma and Texas vacate the Big Twelve and
they join the SEC to create a massive conference in
terms of blue bloods. And oh, by the way, let's

(41:59):
not leave out a very respectable football program. They have
joined the AAC, the American Athletic Conference, And just to
round out the whole shooting match, Kansasuth State from Georgia
they're in Conference USA. This is nothing new, Okay, yes,

(42:20):
fifteen teams are moving conferences in one year, which is big.
But since two thousand and four, fifteen programs in the
current Power five conferences. They also realigned to join new leagues,
and in doing so, they added travel costs, and they
sacrifice the history of success and a lot of cherished

(42:41):
rivalries in their old leagues. Now, I understand the massive
TV money, but when they write the history books, we're
going to find out for individual schools, will it have
been worth it? Will it have been worth it? I
don't want to throw cold water on what promises to
be an exciting new era of college football, But what

(43:04):
are the numbers show? What are the numbers show about
the price of college football realignment? What's the untold story
for schools going back to two thousand and four that
you know had very high hopes of grandeur and their
new conferences. See, because those fifteen schools, excuse me, they

(43:25):
went on to play a combine one hundred and eighty
three individual seasons since they changed conferences, including Nebraska, They've
now played twelve full seasons in the Big Ten. And
after all that trouble, those teams finished with accumulative winning
record of only thirty seven percent of the games. They

(43:47):
only won their games thirty seven percent of the time.
And you know, either of those one hundred and eighty
three leagues have resulted in championships, which is a pittance.
Four by Virginia Texas they joined the ACC, and two
by Utah in the PAC twelve after they moved from

(44:08):
the Mountain West in twenty eleven. So the truth of
the matter is you take teams out of the equation
that relign their paths and unfortunately the record looks a
lot worse. There have been teams that have massively struggled
since moving to new conferences. Look at what Colorado accomplished

(44:30):
since they went to the PAC twelve and now they
go to the Big twelve, Maryland in the Big ten.
Not so much Syracuse and the ACC. Now Missouri is
starting to really assert themselves as a real contender in
the SEC, but they haven't won anything yet. Now, according

(44:51):
to you know, Fox Sports Network president Bob Thompson, he
told USA Today about a year ago, there's absolutely cost.
There are a few moves in realignment that have been
successful in terms of one lost percentages, TV dollars go up,
But did your donations to the school fall off because
you stink on TV. Now, Nebraska is really the poster

(45:15):
child for this. With all due respect to historically an
incredibly respectable program, their come down is among the worst.
They've had no winning they haven't even had a winning
season since twenty sixteen, and they've only had five winning
seasons since joining the Big Ten thirteen years ago. This
is a school that want to share the national title

(45:36):
three times from ninety four to ninety seven in the
Big Twelve and prior to that when they were in
the Big Eight. So when you write the history books,
is this going to be worth it? Because traditional powers
in those leagues typically keep a stronghold, They keep a
stranglehold over top spots in conference championships. Look at Georgia,

(45:57):
Look at Alabama, Look at LSU. They finished with winning
records twenty nine times out of the last thirty one
season since Missouri and Texas, A and M joined the
league in twenty twelve. Now, a similar dynamic has played
out in the Big Ten. What if I told you
believe it or not, Nebraska is a whopping four and

(46:17):
twenty one when they played Ohio State, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
Since coming into the league in twenty eleven. Yet Texas
and Oklahoma they've also elected to jump into the Fray
this year. They joined the SEC from the Big Twelve.
Another Big twelve was basically sixteen teams, and as I
mentioned earlier, SCUCLA, Oregon State, Oregon, and Washington. They're leaving

(46:40):
the PAC twelve, which is based out west to trot
to fare better than Nebraska did and basically the Midwestern
based Big Ten. Although the Big Ten basically blankets the
country now. They acquired Rutgers years ago to get that
New York market, that got Maryland, to get the Washington,
DC market. You get the picture. Now I got the
Los Angeles mark. The Big ten is printing money, and

(47:03):
for what it's worth, I digress ever so quickly. I
think Oregon is gonna win the Big Ten this year.
But we'll find out. We'll find out soon enough. Why
did all this happen? Simple money. There's a major increase
in revenue for all there's a lucrative TV deal with
the new leagues, USC and UCLA. They're going to earn
around seventy million each per year. That it would be

(47:25):
about forty million dollars more per year than they were
getting before pretty hard to turn down, and in return
these newly allioned schools where they give the TV companies
more attractive football games to televise. USC plays Michigan this
year at at Michigan, you know UCLA. Look at the schedules.

(47:46):
I'm not gonna read off the schedules. The bottom line
is there are some really cool marquee matchups. You kind
of get tired of the first month of the season seeing,
you know, Michigan play on Harvey Thorp School of Trucking
every week. Now you've got to play Texas week two,
you got to play USC week three or four, and
you're gonna have Oregon visit Michigan. So this is gonna

(48:09):
be great. I believe that part of it'll be great.
But here's the here's the unanswered question. What if these
newly aligned schools that I'm talking about Texas, Oklahoma, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington,
et cetera, what if they struggle to keep up in
their new surroundings for various reasons, whatever those reasons may be.

(48:31):
That's gonna be the question that will be answered in
this latest round of conference reel linement. That means, now,
since twenty oh four. In twenty years, there have been
thirty schools moved the new conferences, some of them moved twice.
So will Oregon, USC, Washington, and ECLA compete in the
Big ten? Are they gonna en up in the middle

(48:52):
of the pack? I don't think so, certainly, not Oregon.
And what if in doing so they diminished their chances
of getting to the College football Playoff? What if they
had just stayed in the Pac twelve and the Pac
twelve continue to exist, taking less money, but at least
had a better shot at winning an automatic bit into
the playoffs. You could make the case that they risk

(49:16):
hurting their brands if they start going seven and five
every year. Now, I don't want to create problems that
don't exist and attempt to solve them. Let's take a
couple of prime examples. No pun intended here. Colorado, Syracuse.
You want to see a college brand that really started

(49:36):
to rot, and trust me, Colorado under Bill McCartney Mike Pritchard,
who lives here in Las Vegas, played on the national
championship team against Notre Dame back in nineteen ninety Colorado
was a national power. And I remember in nineteen ninety
four cover in the game when Colorado came to Michigan
and Cordell Stewart on the final play of the game

(49:58):
launched it to Michael The receiver's name escapes me for Colorado. Ironically,
he was from Detroit. Colorado was still highly respected that
and then we you know Rick new heisl coach there.
But after Colorado won the Big twelve title in two
thousand and one, and as I mentioned, a share of
the national title in nineteen ninety, the Buffs that left

(50:20):
for the PAC twelve and twenty eleven and they sunk
like a rock immediately to the bottom of the Pack twelve.
What's Colorado's record in the PAC twelve in the last
twelve seasons twenty seven and seventy six. Now Colorado returns
to the Big twelve. They believe there'll be more stability.
Will they have more success? I will tell you. Initially

(50:42):
the move has been cheered by fans because they want
to return to that loss glory. Will they And the
larger question should Colorado have everyone left the Big twelve
At the time of their decision to join the PAC twelve,
the Big twelve looked kind of unstable, wasn't really good fit?
Culturally for Colorado. They actually have a big alumni population

(51:05):
on the West coast. So on paper, moving to the
PAC twelve looked good for Colorado. Many people back then
thought it was a very good move. There was real fear.
I know there are people listening out there that I
remember this. There was real fear that the Big Twelve
was on the precipice of demise as a conference and
Colorado's moved. Back then, it wasn't even totally about the money.

(51:27):
They just wanted the stability, which in some senses also
needs money. So you know, three other PAC twelve teams
joined Colorado in the Big Twelve this year. You taw
Arizona and Arizona State. How are they gonna fare now?
Ten years earlier, Syracuse also jumped ship to the ACC
after being caught and what they considered to be and

(51:48):
it was an unstable situation in the Big East that
looked to be crumbling. Since then, Syracuse has fallen massively
short in the ACC one winning season in league playing
the last ten seasons. But the alternative, well, they were
concerned about maybe risking being left behind in a musical
chairs race for whatever resources existed. Yukon their big East

(52:14):
rival and football didn't get an invite from the ACC,
and they are not playing as a football independent, although
there's talk they might join a MAG twelve. So there
are a lot of variables to take into account, but
the biggest decision maker of them all is the survivability
and viability and financial viability of the program. And if

(52:38):
Connecticut could have been to the ACC, they would have
done so gladly. You're thirty million dollars richer, You've got
more resources, and you got to think maybe there's a
plan to be competitive. You've got an extra thirty million
dollars to play with. So the truth of the matter
is when you move to a better conference, you truly
believe everything will be better there. Right, let's examine that well,

(53:00):
because we have twenty years of data to suggest we
don't know what it's going to look like the next
fifteen or twenty years, even though this looks really good
on paper and the money is flowing. I'm Bernie Fraddle.
We're coming to life from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio,
Tarack dot Com Studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to
the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
back at the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio coming

(53:22):
to life from the Tarack dot Com studios here in
Las Vegas. We continue with the untold story of realignment,
going back twenty years and even before. Tweet from Fred
and Nebraska, who is a longtime Nebraska fan, says, all
of us in Nebraska missed the Big Eight. Why because
we love the four or five hour road trips to

(53:42):
the Games eight to Norman. But we could leave at
five am and you would see a convoy. All that's gone.
It sucks Hardly any fans wanted Nebraska to go to
the Big twelve. I don't know if he meant Big
Ten there. They went to the Big Ten at twenty eleven,
and I contended to hurt their recruiting. I believe that
they had a national recruiting when they went to Big ten.
I think they lost some of that. Before Nebraska joined

(54:05):
the Big Ten, they were ten games over five hundred
against Big Ten opponents, and since then they've not fared
well in the Big Ten. Maybe that changes a little
this year. I think Matt Rule will make them better,
but I don't know anybody picking him to win it. So,
and speaking of recruiting, let's take Missouri. Here's another thing.
Missouri had thirty three players from Texas on the roster

(54:29):
in its second season in the SEC, back in twenty thirteen. Okay,
they finished twelve and two that year, including seven to
one in league play. See because back then Missouri was
able to recruit Texas players more heavily. They will remember
the Big Twelve, which was based in Texas and had
four teams in the state. But since then, Missouri has

(54:49):
strayed to the SEC, to a league primarily based in
the Southeast. They've not had a winning record league play
since twenty fourteen. I mentioned that ten years ago, Missouri
had thirty three players from Texas on the roster. Last year,
Missouri only had eleven players from Texas on the roster.
They finished six and seven overall, including three and five

(55:10):
in league play. Contrasts that when they were twelve and
two overall and seven and one in league play. So
you think everything's automatically, it may be better. How about Maryland.
Le's talk about Maryland. You talk about falling fortunes when
you move to a new league. That can certainly translate
to the box office as well. Last year, the Turfs

(55:31):
had the second worst average announced attendance in the entire
Big Ten. They're drawing thirty two thousand people a game.
And Maryland was pretty good. They were eight in five
last year. Now they were only four and five of
the Big Ten. Now the thirty three biggest home crowds
in Maryland football history paging boomerasiasin paging Frank Reich one

(55:52):
of the biggest comebacks in history against Miami. Only four
have come in the last ten years. That's when the
Turfs moved to the Big Ten from the ACC. The
terms have never finished with the winning record in the
league playing the Big Ten, and it's a downfall that's
pretty dramatic when you go back to their heyday in
the ACC when they were a founding member of the league.

(56:15):
Won the league in twenty ozh one under Rolph Fregen
and of the thirty three top home crowds in Maryland
football games, twenty two came during the Freegin tenure from
two to one to twenty ten, when Maryland's record was
seventy five and fifty. So in retrospect, you know, hindsight's
always twenty twenty. Was it a mistake to move to

(56:36):
the Big ten? Ral Frieden said, no, it's not a
mistake because Maryland really can compete in the Big Ten.
I don't see whether they shouldn't, everything being equal with
everything else. He also noted those decisions are not made
by football coaches. They're made by administrators, and you got
to pay the bills. You remember, the Big Ten next

(56:57):
year starts with media rights to eelworth seven billion dollars
billion dollars over seven years with Fox Sports, CBS, and NBC.
In the end, let's face it, money talks, but money
affects how competitive you're going to be. They all get
that money. And the real question that I think that's

(57:19):
on folks minds is does money really buy happiness? Does
media money really buy happiness. You've got all these big
college brands crabbing themselves into these two super leagues. Now
you get the SEC in the Big Ten. Those teams
are going to beat each other up. Half of them
are going to finish into the bottom half of the league.
The other half will finishing of the top half. Meanwhile,

(57:41):
the rest of college football you could start to lose interest,
if possible, not predicting it, because those on the outside
of those two leagues, they might not be as gauged
as they once were, because the power and money and
prestige will spread more across the land, across the landscape
instead of basically with two primarily you know, too big

(58:01):
behemoth conferences. Now you can't really have competitive college football
unless you have teams across the country that are able
to you know, show up and acquit themselves, including getting
invited to traditional bowl games or certainly now the College
Football Playoff. You've got to be able to play at

(58:21):
the highest level of fans are never going to be
fully satisfied.

Speaker 5 (58:24):
You know.

Speaker 2 (58:24):
I remember back in the day when UCLA was a powerhouse. Man,
they were a powerhouse. What kind of crowds they draw
out the Rose Bowl? Now? Well, look, you know where
I'm going with that. You're going to have to win now.
I think most athletic departments and coaches support the move
to the Big ten. And even though you've looked at

(58:47):
schools like Nebraska who've had a tough time on the field,
by and large, it's pretty hard to turn on the money.
It's pretty hard to turn on the opportunity in these
big time matchups. There's concerns there's other things too, like
ext to travel or giving up traditional rivalries and the
expectations of fans start to change. But you know, the

(59:07):
level of competition is a little more consistent weekend wake
out and the real question is how's this going to
look over the test of time. The old Big twelve
still looks like a place to, you know, be respectable.
But one of the things that's undeniable now you're just
not going to have. You're just not going to have

(59:28):
those great regional matchups involving brand names. You know what
I'm talking about Texas Oklahoma, Texas Oklahoma, Nebraska, the old
rivalries Missouri Kansas, Texas, Texas, A and M. And I
will tell you you would think maybe those rivalries would
command a nice price from TV company or the TV business.

(59:48):
Right the new Big twelve figuration configuration is a lot
different than the old Big twelve configuration. And I think, folks,
although the money is crazy, in term the reputation, the
old Big twelve configuration even today would stand the test
of time because it would have been a formidable competitive league.
And we haven't even talked about the you know, student athlete,

(01:00:13):
if there's such a term anymore. With then IL welfare,
you've got geographic proximity. You heard me mentioned to Dave
Sherifpan earlier in the first hour. Take Ucla. I know
they're not in the Big twelve. They're gonna travel twenty
two thousand miles this year. That's a lot, man, And
when you consider the furthest trip UCLA made last year

(01:00:35):
was seven hundred and sixty miles to Oregon State. The
Big ten travel will always be this bad. But you
go to Rutgers, which is in New York City, Penn State,
and the other end of the country. UCLA also travels
to LSU and Nebraska. We are in a different world.
Is it better? We're gonna find out. I think it's
gonna be better for the fans. And the truth of
the matter is is the grass greener? Is the grass

(01:00:57):
always going to be as greener? We don't know. Theoretically.
I think this is an idea whose time had to come.
And I would just say this that if you just
go back the last twenty years, it's not the panacea
for every school that they hoped it would be. All
you have to do is look at the history football

(01:01:18):
fans be sure to tune into a Fox Sports radio
every Sunday morning beginning at ten am Eastern seven am
Pacific for Contdown to Kickoff presented by Bet mg and
Brian Nojeff Schwartz Professional Better My Buddy Bill Krackenberger. Have
you covered three hours before kickoff? Every Sunday morning, Listen
to Contown to Kickoff presented by BETMGM right here on
Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app. We had a

(01:01:41):
wide open tournament. There's a formula. There's a formula that
has predicted pretty well in the past which teams will
win the National champions Give an example. Last year, it
had Michigan before the season started with a fifty four
percent chance to win the national Championship, and they did.
The year before, Georgia was predicted a seventy seven percent

(01:02:06):
chance to win the national Championship. Back in twenty twenty,
Alabama had an eighty three percent chance and they won
it all. Remember the Joe Burrow team sixty four percent
chance with LSU. What does this formula entail? What does
it mean? Who are the sixteen teams that make the
LISTIC and potentially win the National Championship this year? And
who was the favorite based down this formula? Coming up,

(01:02:28):
I'll share the formula and what the hell we're talking
about here? But first go back to our guy. It's
the chef Kevin Wyer.

Speaker 6 (01:02:34):
With the latest at college football beginning on Saturday with
week zero, and we already had ourselves in upset over
on the Emerald Isle Florida StatET and Georgia Tech playing
in a Dublin and the Yellowjackets getting the upsot over
the tenth rank Seminals, winning it at the buzzer on
a forty forty yard field goal, and they win it

(01:02:54):
by a score of twenty four to twenty one. We
did just have a game go final out in Hawaii.
It was a story earlier this week. Delaware State missed
their flight but did still manage to get out to
the Islands. But the Rainbow Warriors still do manage to
win it late Saturday night, thirty five to fourteen. Other
games in college football, SMUA comeback win against Nevada, sixteen

(01:03:18):
points in the last eight minutes to get the victory
twenty nine to twenty four. Montana State with the first
FCS over FBS upset of the season. They beat New
Mexico on three fourth quarter touchdowns to win it by
a final score of thirty five to thirty one NFL preseason.
The late preseason game, Seahawks beat the Browns thirty seven

(01:03:39):
to thirty three. The Chargers beat Dallas twenty six to
nineteen as Trey Lancha five interceptions for the Cowboys, and
the Jets beat the Giants ten to six as the
Jets defense recorded eight sacks in that game. Carolina beats
Buffalo thirty one to twenty six. Major League Baseball, the
Dodgers five game winning streak comes two and end as

(01:04:03):
the Rays get a home run in both the ninth
and tenth innings to win it nine to eight. LA's
lead in the L West now three games, Guardians over
the Rangers thirteen to five, Minnesota six nothing over Saint
Louis and Philadelphia winners at Kansas City eleven to two,
and that AL Central tight as well, as the Guardians
lead both the Twins and the Royals by two games.

(01:04:28):
That AL East as tight as ever, as the Yankees
lead over Baltimore once again down to half the game.
The Yanks lose to the Colorado Rockies nine to two,
Orioles over the Astros three to two. When Seattle falls
to the San Francisco Giants four to three, w NBA
Minnesota over Indiana ninety to eighty as Caitlin Clark recorded

(01:04:48):
a twenty three points and eight assists. And Little League
World Series Championship is tomorrow. The matchup is said after
Florida beat Texas ten to seven, Taiwan over Venezuela four one,
so Florida will face Taiwan Sunday for the Little League
World Series title.

Speaker 1 (01:05:05):
Back to you Berning, All.

Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
Right, thanks, chef. So the narrative will be very quickly
all about winning the national championship. It'll be talked about
day one, which it already is all the way through
January twenties when the final game is played. You know,
the great Pete Rose once said, coaching football is like
driving a stage coach. Without the horses, you ain't going forward.

(01:05:30):
So which schools can win the national championship is real simple.
According to this formula called the blue Chip Ratio, which
has had its beginnings back in twenty thirteen, it's all
about how did you recruit? How well did you recruit?
Because this blue Chip Radio ratio has been referenced over

(01:05:51):
the years, it monitored by head coaches, administrators, and it's
even featured in the EA Sports College Football video game revival.
It's not a super complex calculation, but the truth of
the matter is it's proven since twenty thirteen to be
a reasonable predictor and who's likely to win the national championship.

(01:06:12):
Simple terms, to win the national championship, college football teams
need to sign more for and five star recruits, also
known as blue chips. You need more four or five
star recruits than two or three star players. There's something
to this, and it's propagated over four recruiting classes. Now,
this has been consistently true since the advent of modern

(01:06:34):
internet recruiting rankings. It's not to say the blue chip
ratio guarantees the national title or even guarantees competing for one,
but the numbers have been pretty impressive in terms of
their predictions. The idea is you've got to stack talent
on top of talent, and stack more talent on top
of talent. When you consider the violent nature of football,
it's a game of attrition, you've got to have death.

(01:06:57):
Michigan had great depth last year they won championship. Now,
recruiting rankings are not perfect, but they're pretty damn good,
especially in the aggregate four and five star recruits. This
has proven over the last twelve years. They're ten times
more likely to be drafted in the first round of
the NFL than there are two and three star counterparts,

(01:07:17):
and five star recruits are about thirty three times more
likely to be All Americans as two stars. These are
numbers that have borne out. For every two star who
becomes a big success, there are probably about fifteen or
twenty or thirty four five stars who are going to
be going pro or going to be All American, and
they're getting better annually due to advancements in data and

(01:07:41):
technology and the way they evaluate athletes. Now, one thing
we haven't talked about development that matters. It certainly does.
Nobody wins a national title will go by simply developing
players and making them better. That will not circumvent elite recruiting.
You still got to have elite recruiting. There are plenty

(01:08:02):
of coaches who regarded, you know, as elite developers, and
they are, but they don't win at all because they
can't accumulate enough talent. On the other hand, there are
plenty of examples of coaches who really are not regarded
as premiere head men, but they've won it all thanks
to elite recruits. Yeah, I mean when you start talking

(01:08:24):
about the shortlist of great coaches and with all their
respect of these names, right because you hear the Kirby
Smarts and the Nick Sabans and the Jim Harballs. Do
you hear Gene Shisick. Do you hear Less Miles? I
like mac Brown, but he doesn't make a lot of shortlists.
At Orgeron, I love at Orgeron. None of them have
ever been, you know, called tactical masterminds. But guess what,

(01:08:46):
they've all won national championships because they had the horses. Now,
the blue chip ratio not necessarily requirement to make the
college football playoff. You've got schedule strength that plays a role,
and you've got other factors, injuries and things of that nature.

(01:09:07):
And we haven't talked about transfers either. Not transfers typically
aren't included in the main blue chip ratio calculation, and
there are a few reasons for that. Through the first
four years of the heavy transfer portal activity, national titles
are not being won primarily through the portal. Yeah, Michigan
did have a few in twenty twenty three, but most

(01:09:28):
of the teams were developed most of the Michigan's team
was developed out of high school. By the way, Georgia
did not take a single scholarship transfer in twenty twenty two,
and they had very little reliance on it the year
before when they won the best teams recruited high school
very well. Then they look to fill in the hole
the upgrade spots via the portal teams loading up on transfers.

(01:09:48):
They're frequently coaches looking for a jumpstart to a new
tenure or trying to quick fix to save their jobs.
Not always, but transfers have become more and more widespread
with the sport thanks to the removal of year in
residence requirement. You get a media eligibility, you don't have
the red shirt anymore, and now you can just unlimited transfers.

(01:10:09):
There are two thousand scholarship transfers this passed offseason alone.
It's ridiculous, right, So look, we go back thirteen years.
The blue chip ratio is a historical standards. It's continued
to be monitored. But you're gonna get a kick out
of these ratios because the truth of the matter is

(01:10:29):
it's been very predictive. I just mentioned to you they
had Michigan had fifty four percent last year before the season.
The year before, Georgia had seventy seven percent. Both of
those teams won. To go back to twenty fourteen, the
great team that Urban Miner had, they want to weather
third string quarterback in card L Jones, they won the title.

(01:10:51):
Prior to the season beginning, their ratio was sixty eight
percent meat or not. The ratio their predictor was at
ohise they would have a sixty eight chance of winning
the national title, and they did. Clemson, they took home
the title in twenty sixteen for the first time under
Dabos Swinney. They were predicted to be at fifty two

(01:11:13):
percent based on their blue chips in the four recruiting
classes before and number two years later with Deshaan Watson,
Clemson was predicted at sixty eight percent to win the
national championship and they did. And that was their best team,
the Joel Burrow team at LSU. Look how loaded they were.
You see what they're doing in the NFL now, sixty
four percent? All right, you wait long enough, what's gonna happen?

(01:11:37):
What's gonna happen this year? Without giving the percentages, I
will just tell you which teams are the most likely
to win based on the blue Chip ratio. You know
who tops the list, Yes, Ohio State, but not far
behind is Alabama. And I think Alabama is going to
surprise a lot of people this year. They have a

(01:11:57):
lot of talent. They lost some, but they got some more.
Jaylen milrode back and they have Caitlin Deboor Georgia right
behind Alabama. And then you've got Oregon. I don't know
if I agree with Oklahoma. Texas is on the list,
LSU's on the list. Notre Dame's way down on the list,
but they're there. And then finally the top twelve. Rounding

(01:12:18):
out the top twelve because twelve teams go to the playoffs, Clemson,
Florida and Miami. Who's on the outside looking in Pennas State, USC, Michigan,
Auburn guests who didn't make the list. And by the way,
they sure as hell showed up today. It didn't there Saturday. Yeah,

(01:12:38):
the Florida State seminoles. I don't think they're going to
crash the party. You saw what you saw today with
Dju and company. In that defense. As I said at
the top of my show, Florida State could not only
not run the ball or the crap Saturday against Georgia Tech.
They made up for it, but not able they weren't

(01:12:59):
able to stop the run. Now I realize part of
this formula involves conference superiority, and you got to play
against each other. And we don't know. No one knows
if the blue chip ratio holds forever because standards change,
things change. And again we're relatively new into the transfer
portal three four years and most of these recruiting blue

(01:13:22):
chip ratios are accumulated and calculated based on a four
year recruiting period. So there you have it. If you
heard that and you absorbed it, and you're an Ohio
State fan, you should be happy. But I will tell you,
I will bet one of these four teams does win
the national championship. Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Oregon. I believe

(01:13:45):
one of those four teams most likely will based on
the incredible talent on their rosters. But there are variables,
and you still got to do it. You still got
to do it, and it might not be so easy.
And look as you well, no teams start out with
the you know, the the best of intentions, and certainly

(01:14:05):
the best of of I think potential based on a
lot of factors. But things have a way, you know,
the future has a way of arriving ahead of schedule.
I will tell you this though, regardless of Ohya slice it,
there's a handful of must watch games coming up in
twenty twenty four, and I'm going to share with you
which I think these are must watch games. I'm Bernie Frattle,

(01:14:29):
her comedy line from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, Tirack
dot com studios. Keep it locked right here. You're listening
to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. You're
back at the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio, coming
to live after tyrack dot Com Studios here in Las Vegas.
Coming up top of the hour. Give it up to
the good folks of Dallas. Eight hundred and thirty seven
fans responded to his survey, and I am very impressed

(01:14:55):
with their candor, their honesty. I'm going to share the
results of at survey coming up at the top of
the hour. But for now, it's college football. The old
conference SEC mantra. It just means more. I think it
means more now in every conference. Again, we've talked about
Conference realignment, the expansion at Oklahoma and Texas is in

(01:15:18):
the SEC, Oregon, Washington, USC and Ecla. And the Big Ten, Utah, Arizona,
Arizona State and Colorado. The Big twelve, YadA, YadA, YadA.
Schedules will garner increased interest. Even Georgia, who's preseason number one,
They got a really tough schedule. They got three games
against top six opponents and two more against top fifteen.

(01:15:41):
They say Florida has the toughest schedule all of them.
They have inked they have eight ranked teams on their schedule.
But irrespective of strength to schedule, there are a handful
of must watch games right out of the gate. In
two weeks, Number four Texas visits number nine Michigan. This
will be the most significant non conference game, determining a

(01:16:03):
powerhouse versus a powerhouse the SEC and the Big Ten.
Remember Texas is going to the SEC now. If Michigan
pulls off that win, they open up against Fresno State
next week. But if they somehow beat Texas well, Saran
Moore will have sent a message to the defending national
champs or a threat to repeat, and that would be
a huge win. Do I think that's going to happen. No,

(01:16:26):
Michigan lost a ton. They don't have the depth they
had last year with a very good defensive front seven.
They got Will Johnson, a corner, maybe the best corner
of the nation, number one draft pick. But Texas creates
all kinds of buzz. They want to prove their rider
for the SEC. I think they're going to be a
real challenge that it's going to be a hell of
a game to watch and be played in the Big
House a couple weeks after that. How about Utah currently

(01:16:49):
ranked twelve fit at Oklahoma State. Why is that such
a big matchup? Because the Big twelve was wide open
this year and this is a great early clash between
two potential league favorites. And you know, you've also got
to include Kansas State in that list, in Arizona on
that list. But right out of the gate before September
is out the uts and the two uts in Oklahoma State,

(01:17:11):
they got a great defense and they got their seventh
year senior quarterback, twenty five year old Cam Rising is back.
That'll be a great game. How about Georgia Alabama September
twenty eighth, again an early measuring stick game. For Alabama,
a chance for Kaitlin to Boord to grab a signature win.
He replaces Nick Saban. If they get in, Obama gets
the game at home, beating Georgia. It won't be easier.

(01:17:34):
Remember Bama knocked Georgia out of the tournament last year.
Ohio State at Oregon, this is one I really can't
wait for October twelfth. It's not a Rose Bowl game.
It's just another big old Big ten game. Now to
behemoth quarterbacks. You got two transfer quarterbacks, Dalon Gabriel for
the Ducks, Will Howard for the Buckeyes. One of these
teams is going to be sad, the other is going

(01:17:54):
to be happy. I think Oregon gets them. How about
Georgia Texas October nineteenth, another banger Carson Beck and Georgia.
If they beat Bama and Texas beats Oklahoma, those two
have already played. You got a real massive matchup here
in terms of going a long way. Who can actually
win the SEC? Quinn viewers well, Texas could be ranked

(01:18:16):
even higher also if they beat undefeated. If they are
undefeated and they beat Michigan, all right, Florida State at
Notre Dame November ninth. I think that game has lost
a lot of luster down based on what happened to
Florida State Saturday. But Notre Dame has designs on being
in the tournament and so this is a it's an
acc showdown, and again Florida State would have a chance

(01:18:39):
to pee on Notre dames parade. Finally, the absolute must
must watch game Ohio State Michigan November thirtieth. We know
Ohio State's lost to Michigan three straight times after winning
eight in a row. Michigan fans can't wait. Got some
guy on Twitter counting the dates. It's lestime Ohio State
beat him. How lovely. Both teams do have a lot
of major tests along the way, but even if neither

(01:19:01):
one's undefeated like they were last year, still could be
the difference in having a playoff buy or getting in
the playoffs, or hosting a postseason game, or ending up
at the Peach Bowl. So there's just a handful of
the big time matchups you could look forward to as
we head into the season, which has already started. Week
zero is in the books. Week one starts Thursday with

(01:19:21):
Colorado and North Dakota State. Keep it locked. We talk
about the Cowboys It's the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox
Sports Radio. That's right, you heard the man. It's that
time of week is the Bernie Frattle Show rolls right along.
My name is Bernie Frattle. We are coming to live
from the tyrac dot com studios here in Las Vegas,
Fox Sports Radio. Tirack dot com will help you get

(01:19:42):
there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road after protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyrack dot com the
way tire buying should be. The great actress Lily Tomlin
once said, I always wanted to be somebody. I just
wish I'd been more specific. Who the hell are the

(01:20:04):
Dallas Cowboys anymore? Recently their fans eight hundred and thirty
seven of them, participated in a survey, and I must
tell you I am very impressed with their insights, with
their thoughts and their commentary, and the majority mentioned Jerry
Jones in terms of being I think more part of

(01:20:25):
the problem than solution. One writer said, if the GM
wasn't Jerry himself, there would have been at least five
gms since the nineties. A good businessman who would rather
lose while feeding his own ego over hiring experienced upper
management who you would have to share the credit with.
Another wrote Jerry's instability to allow a true, fully focused
football mind to handle GM responsibilities. Also his incompetence when

(01:20:47):
it comes to paying guys, not just paying him, when
he pays, and who he pays, multiple, multiple, multiple comments.
So the front office does not operate this franchise a
manner to be successful on the field. The operator as
a business designed to grow the bottom line and increase value.
If sales go up, valuation goes up, everything's good, the

(01:21:08):
team successful. They make poor rosters. I don't know if
I agree with all that, because I really do think
Jerry wants to win. He dearly wants to prove at
eighty two years old, which he turns in October, that
he can win a He can win a Super Bowl
without Jimmy Johnson. Yeah, you can say he did it
with Jerry Barry Switzer back in ninety six, but come on,
we all know what happened there. So let's get to

(01:21:28):
the results of the survey. There was a twelve question survey,
and there were actually one thousand and four responses, but
not every voter provided a response to all twelve questions.
But each question received almost eight hundred votes. That's a lot.
So here are the results to the questions how many

(01:21:50):
games would the Cowboys win this year? Well, how many
people said they'd win thirteen or more two percent. How
many people said they'd win only eight twenty eight percent.
That's a lot. Here's why because when the question was
asked in January nine months ago, seventy eight percent said

(01:22:13):
they thought the team would win ten or more games.
And so, despite having twice as many voters in January
more voters in the current survey, they had the Cowboys
winning less than eight games. What changed the perception? What
will happen next January? Will the Cowboys at least reach

(01:22:33):
the NFC Championship Game? Only ten percent of their respondents
believe they would reach the NFC Championship Game. Thirty one
percent thought they would lose in the divisional round, Thirty
eight percent thought they would lose in the wildcard runs.
It's almost seventy percent have them going out in the
first or second round, and believe it or not, twenty
two percent think they'll miss the playoffs. That's a lot.

(01:22:57):
They're telling you that if they don't believe what they're
s I mean, you're not gonna win games and a
reputation anymore. This is a question that one I'm going
to share with you now blew me away, but I
agree with it. If only one of these three players
could still be on the Cowboys three years from now,
who would you want it to be. Here are the

(01:23:19):
three players listed, Dak Prescott, Michael Parsons, CD Lamb, Tay
Let's have a little fun with this, shay uh. Let
me ask you a question. Get in the brains of
the Cowboys respondence to this survey, and of those three
players Dak Prescott, Michael Parsons, and CD Lamb, that you

(01:23:41):
could wish if only one of them could be on
the Cowboys three years from now, which of those three
players do you think got.

Speaker 9 (01:23:47):
The most votes three years from now?

Speaker 2 (01:23:50):
Three years from now?

Speaker 9 (01:23:50):
Yeah, you see, that's a different question because how old
is Michael Parsons compared to Dak.

Speaker 2 (01:23:57):
Well, he's younger, but Dak's listen, Dak, He's not an
ancient guy, not at all.

Speaker 5 (01:24:02):
Really. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:24:03):
CD's out of the question for me because I feel
like a wide receiver is a lot easier to find
a good wide receiver, if that makes sense. It's a
lot harder at quarterback and Micah's position, But I think
I would I think I would go with Micah honestly.

Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
Okay, hold that thoughts chef, who do you think?

Speaker 1 (01:24:24):
Honestly?

Speaker 6 (01:24:24):
I would go with Dak Prescott because quarterback is the
most important position and football. There's only so many competent
ones to go around in the league, So I think
you do whatever you can to unless you have a
replacement in mind, to keep your quarterback around. I know
Dak has struggled in playoff games, but with the production
he has had, that's not something you just give up

(01:24:45):
on unless you are very confident you can find someone
who can do better.

Speaker 2 (01:24:49):
Right, So you vote Jack and and shave votes Micah,
Mark Ramsey, Dak, Mike or Cde Lamb. Only one of
the three could be on the Cowboys roster three years
from who you want it to be? Who to the
Cowboy Nation vote?

Speaker 1 (01:25:02):
So I know what Dak is. What are the other
two positions we're talking about?

Speaker 2 (01:25:05):
Well, Michael Parsons is an edge rusher and Ceede Lambs
wide receiver.

Speaker 1 (01:25:10):
The edge rusher guy.

Speaker 2 (01:25:11):
Okay, believe it or not, guys, it is in fact
Michael Parsons he got fifty three percent of the vote.
And here's the interesting thing that too, despite finishing second
in League MVP voting a year ago, Dak Prescott's approval
rating is brutal thirteen percent and he got thirteen percent

(01:25:34):
of the vote. Ceedee Lamb thirty four percent of the vote,
and Michael Parsons fifty three percent of the vote. Interesting,
these are the fans that get to see these guys
every weekend, week out.

Speaker 9 (01:25:49):
Who would you go, Bernie three years from now, Yeah,
three years from now, I'd.

Speaker 2 (01:25:54):
Still go with Michael Parsons because you got to build. Listen,
edge rushers are at a premiums. If Deck's two and
seven and two and five in the playoffs, he's not
a player, you know, wonderful they're twelve and five every
year he looks like a drunk cross again I in
the playoffs, I'm done with the guy. He wants sixty
million dollars. You know. Patrick Mahomes is the fourteenth you know,

(01:26:14):
top paid quarterback and all he does is win, and
he takes smart, intelligent deals that allow the rest of
the players to get paid. Why can't back do that?

Speaker 5 (01:26:23):
You know?

Speaker 2 (01:26:23):
And I mean he got out dueled badly last year
by Jordan Love, who I really liked the year before
he got out duel by brock Perty. You get the drift.
I don't like him. I don't. I think he's a
good dude, not if you want to win a super Bowl.
So I would go with Michael Parsons. And do you
guys point listen in this league wide receivers, you know

(01:26:44):
they they're not a diamond dozen, especially when you have
CD Lamb's production. I get all that, although I think
he's acting like a complete jackass now because he wants
to be paid. They offered him almost thirty three million
and he's still fuxing around out there because he wants
to be the high paid non quarterback. You know, he's
behind Nick Bosa and he's behind Justin Jefferson. Ceedy last

(01:27:07):
production's good, But what's it gottenham? So you know, come
seekm saw Cowboys fans, what grade would you give them
for their offseason? They didn't give it one percent give
him an A, but a total of sixty seven percent
gave them either a D or an F. It's amazing
you guys are gonna like this one. Who's the Cowboys

(01:27:27):
most overrated player? Trevon Diggs, Ezekiel Elliott, Deron Bland, who
just got hurt he's out for six weeks, Micah Parsons
or Dak Prescott, all of those guys. Who's the most
overrated player based on the votes? Jay?

Speaker 9 (01:27:44):
Okay, based on the votes?

Speaker 2 (01:27:46):
Yeah, it's only based on the votes. This is a survey, Okay.

Speaker 9 (01:27:49):
I would if it was just me, I would say
Diggs because I think Diggs gets burnt every play and
it's just bad passes. They get him lucky and he
loves seriously the only reason he's gotting interceptions is because
he gets burnt and then the throat they're just in
front of him so he's able to get it.

Speaker 2 (01:28:01):
It's it's a nice Diggs is a cornerbacking good good stuff.

Speaker 9 (01:28:05):
I just it pisses me off. But what were the
other options?

Speaker 2 (01:28:08):
Well, Dak Prescott, Michael Parsons, Ezekiel Elliott, Deron Bland, who's
hurt now, Tomm Dick's okay, you'll go with dig Schef.

Speaker 6 (01:28:15):
What do you guys who Cowboy fans think is the
most overrated? Yes, Dak, I mean I think they've gotten
fed up with his playoff performances over the last few years,
so I can absolutely see them saying Dak is overrated.

Speaker 1 (01:28:28):
Mark Ramsey Elliott.

Speaker 2 (01:28:31):
Okay, fair enough, guys. Eight hundred and thirty seven respondents,
two hundred and fifty one of the votes. That's a lot.
What did Dak prescott you?

Speaker 1 (01:28:41):
Oh my god, I.

Speaker 2 (01:28:42):
Mean, I'm telling me, these Cowboys fans, I gotta tell you, man,
it's it's I really give them a lot of credit there.
They're not playing around here. Will the Cowboys reach the
super Bowl in the next five years? Just reached the
super Bowler of the votes, No, here's what's crazy. Last season,

(01:29:07):
Heading into last season, same question, fifty six percent said yes,
they'll at least reach the super Bowl the next five years.
After watching this last season, that dropped to twenty one percent.
Dropped to twenty one percent. The rest of the stuff
is kind of granular. Which rookie will have the biggest

(01:29:29):
positive impact this season? Which of the four players are
most confident? Blah blah blah. Okay, you're gonna laugh at
this one. Now, these same Cowboy fans who didn't care
if this individual is there for three years from now.
Who will be the Cowboys starting quarterback in twenty twenty five,
not this year, next year. These are the four choices.

(01:29:52):
Dak Prescott, Trey Lance, someone they draft next April, or
a veteran not on the current roster. Shaye, Who do you.

Speaker 9 (01:30:03):
Think after today's performance? I think Lance has a zero
chance of starting.

Speaker 2 (01:30:08):
Well, see this was done before the see this was
done before the ya. I never thought Lance could play. Yeah,
I mean, even going into the draft, they kept showing
those same three highlights from North Dakota State, and two
of them.

Speaker 9 (01:30:20):
Are running place I completely agree with.

Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
I mean, when he started that game for Mike Shannan
in the regular season, they were I mean they were
running the wing T offense. They're telling you, Mike Shannan's
an offensive dans. He's like, I can't give this guy
and he plays. He's not a major league quarterback, he says, sorry,
he's not good human being, not a major league quarterback. Yeah. No,
So which will be all of those four? You know,
you have to take off what you saw today and

(01:30:44):
just go back to the summer when they did this,
when they did this survey. But we're still in the summer.
But you get the drafts like three months ago. Dak Prescott,
Trey Lance, some of the draft next to April or
a veteran not on the current roster.

Speaker 9 (01:30:56):
I think I think it's to be a veteran. I
don't think they would go with Schador Sanders. I think
it's so you.

Speaker 2 (01:31:01):
Think they'll go so Dak will be gone and they'll
they'll go into the market chef.

Speaker 6 (01:31:07):
So next year, will Dak be the quarterback or will
be a drafty or go out and get Yeah, it
was a Rams fan. I'm hoping Dak leaves and goes
to the Rams. What I mean Matthew Stafford, He's.

Speaker 2 (01:31:22):
I don't like Stafford either, man conversation. I do like Stafford,
but I got fatigue from Stafford and Detroit.

Speaker 9 (01:31:29):
Yeah, we like Stafford over Dak any day.

Speaker 2 (01:31:32):
Oh I would to right now.

Speaker 9 (01:31:33):
Yeah, they won a Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (01:31:36):
Listen, I would not acquire Dak from the Rams.

Speaker 9 (01:31:38):
No, hell no, yeah, thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:31:41):
I'm just saying, but you know, i'd like him.

Speaker 1 (01:31:45):
How many more years are they gonna get out of
Matthew Stafford's my point?

Speaker 9 (01:31:47):
I think too, Yeah, you got two more years.

Speaker 2 (01:31:50):
He said he wants to play four and with Puka
coming up, you never know.

Speaker 1 (01:31:53):
I mean, I'm not confident he'll make it four years.

Speaker 2 (01:31:55):
But great man, he plays hurt and he's gamer. He's
a gamer. But I just saw too many full pounds
in Detroit that maybe threw open my mouth that the
average fan didn't see. So but I would still say
Stafford gives you, as the Rams quarterback your best chance
to win. I don't know how we got on this subject.

Speaker 1 (01:32:15):
Any well, but yeah, I think.

Speaker 2 (01:32:17):
You're going to start for the Kall Cowboys next year,
not this year.

Speaker 1 (01:32:20):
Probably a veteran quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:32:22):
And this is their survey, not not in our opinion,
it's what do you think the serve.

Speaker 6 (01:32:25):
They're probably going to say veteran quarterback because they're probably
not going to be confident in a drafty and they're
sick of dacks. So I'm guessing, Okay, Mark Ramsey.

Speaker 1 (01:32:35):
Someone they draft.

Speaker 2 (01:32:37):
So here's what's interesting. I think they're being objective here.
Some of their draft next to April only got nine
percent of the vote. A veteran not on the current
roster percent of the vote. Trey Lance twenty three percent
of the vote. Of course, again that was eight weeks ago, right,
I don't know what people are thinking. I mean, he's

(01:32:58):
never going to be the starting Corps back. It's stupid.
It's still forty six percent vote for Dak Prescott, and
you know why, because Jerry end up paying them. I
think it's I think it's a pragmatic decision. All right.
This isn't part of the survey, and the survey gets
very granular because you get into who their most underrated
player is, and you know, we already talked to the

(01:33:20):
overrated player. The key is that the Cowboys fans, I think,
have shown candor. They've shown honesty. They're not looking at
this through rose colored glasses. In regards to the player
in the field, there was all kinds of criticism. They
think the team shows a general lack of toughness when
things go bad in the game or during the course

(01:33:40):
of the season. It seems like there's no one there
that can pick the team up and right the shift.
There's no alpha do Michael Parsons might be that guy,
but it hasn't worked. All right. They don't withstand difficult
stretches in the middle of the games. You know, they
blow out bad teams. When they get into a fistfight
in the phone booth, they stink it up. So my

(01:34:00):
question to you guys is and you know we're gonna
save this sound bite. We're gonna save it. I you know,
I'll talk, I'll shop from the mountaintops. I said eight
weeks ago, this US men's Olympic basketball team was not
gonna lose the gold medal because the NBA has the
best run and jump athletes in the world, and that's
all they needed to do. They squeezed opponents when they

(01:34:22):
needed to, did too much depth, too much athleticism. They
really play as a team. And then you have Steph
getting off the bus hitting threes, you know, from from
three countries away. All right, So my question, and I'm
sticking to my guns here, let's I want to go
around the room. How many wins do the Cowboys have
this year? And then I'll tell you how many I
think they're gonna have. We'll start with you, Shay.

Speaker 9 (01:34:44):
I think they're under five hundred this year.

Speaker 2 (01:34:46):
It's okay, So how many? How many did they land on?
I mean, they're not gonna be one in sixteen?

Speaker 9 (01:34:51):
So I was, yeah, no, they're not gonna be one
in six probably not.

Speaker 2 (01:34:54):
No, no, no, I have that. I'd be cool if
they did, though.

Speaker 9 (01:34:56):
Winning seven games?

Speaker 2 (01:34:58):
Okay, fair enough?

Speaker 6 (01:34:59):
Seven and seven and ten, Chef, I could see them
winning you know, ten, going ten and seven, not you know,
an amazing season, but still a winning one nonetheless, because
they do have some good pieces, assuming you know, they
play and all that. But I do think they can
at least get you know, nine to ten wins and
have another first round playoff exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:35:18):
They then they might, they might. I don't see how
they function mentally this year. You got Barney Rubbol wandering
the sidelines looking like he can't find his car on
the mall parking lot. He has no contract. This never
happens in the NFL. Never a curve of the Lions
ten years, I have never seen this happen. You've got
a coach on the sidelines and it's the last year

(01:35:39):
of his contract. I tweeted at me. If somebody has
seen that happen, then he got ceedee Lamb who wants
to get paid. He's gone overboard. Dak wants to get paid.
You're gonna have to take care of Michael Parsons. They're
just a bad vibe, Mark Ramsey. How many are they
gonna win?

Speaker 1 (01:35:55):
I think Dak is motivated, they'll get to ten.

Speaker 10 (01:36:00):
He's he's having to get through this season for his life.
So he's motivated to try hard and get something done
to make his life last longer as a Dallas Cowboy.
So he's motivated to get things done.

Speaker 9 (01:36:16):
Can I pop up? Can I hop in on that?

Speaker 2 (01:36:18):
Sure?

Speaker 9 (01:36:19):
You see, I feel like I would have felt like that.
But I feel like every year this has been the
deal with Dak. It's like, this is a make or
break here for Dak, And for some reason, in the
beginning of every season, we always say this is a
make or break here for Dak, and he never shows
up like he's seriously he'll have Yeah, maybe he'll he'll
do good during the season, but then again, it's a
first round exit almost every year. So I just I

(01:36:40):
think it's gotten to a point where it's like, yeah,
he has to kind of prove something. But I think
it's just he's so if anything, the opposite demotivated at
this point.

Speaker 2 (01:36:49):
I think he's always motivated. I just think he's that
good when it matters exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:36:53):
But is it the way it ended? Last year?

Speaker 10 (01:36:54):
They were good enough to score and win, but I
thought somehow the defense let them down in the very
end in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:37:01):
Well, their defense let them down big time, but so
did their offense. He could not match Jordan Love blow
for blow. I was just thinking that didn't score all
thirty five points at one drive.

Speaker 10 (01:37:11):
What Dak got to a certain point and at a
certain point he did his job, and at a particular point,
the defense didn't do their job, and so it all
fell apart because they didn't have any plans after they
messed up.

Speaker 2 (01:37:24):
Well, I'll tell you that the offenser didn't do their
job either, and that's run by Dak with all due respects.
So I believe, first of all, I believe they winning
their eight games or nine if they beat Cleveland week one,
then maybe they'll win nine if they lose to Cleveland
week one. And now, given you know, given the way

(01:37:46):
Sean Watson.

Speaker 1 (01:37:46):
Looks come want wants him to lose to Cleveland, that's
a guarantee.

Speaker 9 (01:37:52):
That's a guaranteed.

Speaker 2 (01:37:54):
Well you know he's when you look at Cleveland's defense
at home, they give us few yards as the Legion
of Boom did and the game is at home, But
what the hell is going on a quarterback there? They
should have just kept Baker Mayfield. No, go ahead, Okay,
I agree with you. I am a Browns fan, so

(01:38:15):
I might have a little bit of false Well, I'd
like to see him win too, but we have to
be realistic. Go ahead.

Speaker 9 (01:38:22):
If it's anyone's year where this is the year where
they have to make or break, it's Deshaun Watson. And
not only is it his year where he has to
make or break it. I think he's healthy. I've seen
him throw in the preseason. He looks good and he
looks like he's back in his Houston days. Obviously the
things that happened with him, and I think all that's
blown over. But when you just look at matchups in

(01:38:43):
terms of just what our offense is now and what
it could do. With Najoku literally coming off the best
year of his life. You got Amari Cooper who is
coming to the end of his career, but it's he's
still one of the top gide receivers in the league.
It's something where it's just like if the Browns are
aren't a team that could beat the Cowboys this year,
it's like, what everything is a waste? And I feel

(01:39:06):
like they like it has like they have to beat
the Cowboys, Like if they if they start a season
off with a loss against the Cowboys. This season's over,
so this is a way more important game for the
Browns than it is the Cowboys in my opinion. So
that's why I think it's a definite win. I do
think that the Cowboys will beat the Saints the following week,
but I just.

Speaker 2 (01:39:26):
As long as Derek Carr start starts, did you see
the whole bo the whole bles Zephyrs can beat the Saints.
I'm with you that this is a really pivotal game
for both teams. It'll set the tone for both teams
saying yeah, and so look, I was gonna save this
for later in the show. You might be interested to

(01:39:48):
know that eighty two percent of the bets have come
in on the Browns. Yeah, Cowboys.

Speaker 9 (01:39:54):
Even with no Nick Chubb, which is I mean, Jerome
Ford is great too, He's a great like backup. Again,
with no Nick Chubb, who's basically our offense, like our
entire offense, we're still doing that, which is it makes
me scared a little bit, But well, I don't know.
We'll have to see. I'll have to wait for that week,
and I'll definitely be biting my nails during that game.

Speaker 2 (01:40:15):
All right. By the way, I got a text or
a excuse me, a tweet from a Bury lanier. He
says he let Jason Garrett's contract expire, which I think
is true. I don't think Jason Garrett was fired midseason.
So good one, fair enough, and so yeah, look, the
Cowboys continue to be an ongoing story. And I got it,

(01:40:40):
Steve Rodriguez, Bernie. I turned on my radar to listen
to your show. I heard cowboy talk. Having you've been preempted.
Didn't you cover this topic? Actually, yeah, we cover topics
again when you have updates. There are plenty of updates
in the Cowboys camp, but there are a lot more narratives.
And the truth of the matter is we are interjecting
our opinions now juxtaposed against the opinions. I'm telling you

(01:41:02):
right now the Cowboys. The opposite of love is not hate,
its indifference. There are people who hate the Cowboys, there
are people who love the Cowboys. You have to have
that emotion invested. It's looking more and more like a
circus because Cidi Lamb's not there now. There's not a
dot in my mind. He's gonna show up week one
because he's not going to miss game checks. He'll met
this for all it's worth, and then he'll get his

(01:41:23):
game check. But you think the timing that they weren't
able to work on that they'll miss it. Yeah. Absolutely,
come up and wrap up our thoughts on the Cowboys,
and we've got to get too much much more, including
it's time to give our the remaining two divisional previews,
the FC South and the FCU West. No, I'm Bernie Fraddle.
We're company live the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio tyreck

(01:41:46):
dot com studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to the
Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, back
on the Bernie Frattle Show. I am on record as
saying the Cowboys will be eight and nine. Why come on, man,
you gotta lame duck coach and Mike McCarthy, Dak Prescott
no faith in him, their best player, ceedee lamb. He
is unhappy. This is a lame duck campaign. The Cowboys

(01:42:10):
are depleted by free agency. They got to break in
a new defensive coordinator and look at their schedule after
week seven and they're by They got three opponents RTT
and rather playoff teams. I think this is a you know,
a drunk crossing an Icy Street again. Cowboys eight and
nine coming up. We'll get the crew quickly on their
predictions how many of the Cowboys games the Cowboys will win,

(01:42:33):
and then we wrap up our divisional prognostications of the
AFC South and the AFC West. The first we go
to our guy, the chef, Kevin Wyrett, with the latest.

Speaker 7 (01:42:44):
Tell the shoulders, he's righting, set down, Born, boot it up,
it's tumbling, it's turning.

Speaker 2 (01:42:50):
It is.

Speaker 8 (01:42:56):
The Born did the luck of the Irish. It's the
heart of the Jackets. At Georgia Tech knocks off number
tenth Florida State Final four twenty four twenty one.

Speaker 6 (01:43:10):
That was the Georgia Tech Sports Network from lear Field
there with the call as Georgia Tech upsetting the tenth
ranked seminals twenty four to twenty one, winning it on
that last second forty four yard field goal. And it's
the last time that Georgia Tech beating a top ten
team was Florida State back in twenty fifteen. So history

(01:43:30):
repeating itself. Over in Dublin, we had a few other
college football games going on. SMU had comfort behind victory
against Nevada. They win at twenty nine to twenty four.
The first FCS over FBS upset was Montana State beating
New Mexico and Albuquerque thirty five thirty one, as Montana
State got three touchdowns in that fourth quarter in Hawaiian

(01:43:52):
Delaware State as Delaware State had issues getting there. They
missed their flight but did make it to the islands,
but didn't get much better from there, as Hawaii does
win first game of the season thirty five to fourteen.
Major League Baseball Dodgers five game winning streak snap by
the Tampa Bay Rays as Tampa Bay gets home runs
in both the ninth and tenth innings to win it

(01:44:14):
nine to eight. LA's lead in the division now three games.
That's after the Mets beat to San Diego Padres seven
to one. The Arizona Diamondbacks win their fifth straight game
against the Red Sox. They win it four to one.
That al Central It's Cleveland ahead by two games after
they demolished the Texas Rangers thirteen to five. Minnesota also

(01:44:35):
winning against Saint Louis six nothing, but the Kansas City
Royals losing to the Phillies eleven to two. J t
real Mo to a great game two home runs, seven
runs batted in that American League East continues to be
super tight, and it's a half game lead once again
for the Yankees as they lose to the Rockies nine
to two. Baltimore picking up that game to get within

(01:44:57):
half by beating the Astros three to two. Seattle loses
to the Giants four to three. In the kids game
the Little League World Series, we had the US championship.
In the International Championship on a Saturday, Florida beats Texas
ten to seven. Taiwan over Venezuela four to one, so
it'll be Taiwan and Florida squaring off for the overall

(01:45:17):
Little League World Series championship. And in the WNBA, Kitlin
Clark in action again. She got twenty three points eight assists.
But the any Nfever do lose to Minnesota ninety to eighty.

Speaker 2 (01:45:29):
Bet you, Bernie, thanks Chef, good job, Bud. There are
seven teams that'll make the playoffs in the NFC. In
my view, the Cowboys are not one of them. Shay,
yes or no? Do the Cowboys make the playoffs?

Speaker 3 (01:45:42):
No?

Speaker 9 (01:45:42):
I think there's seven teams that are better than them.

Speaker 2 (01:45:44):
All right, my friend, Chef, back to you, do the
Cowboys make the playoffs.

Speaker 6 (01:45:49):
Yes, they don't win the division, but they will squeak
in as a wild card.

Speaker 2 (01:45:52):
Okay, fair enough, and Mark Ramsey, you're gonna break the tie?

Speaker 1 (01:45:55):
The answer is no, Yeah, I.

Speaker 6 (01:46:00):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:46:00):
And I think Shady bring up a really good point
in terms of the metaphorical aspect of this week one
game in Cleveland. If somehow Dallas goes in and wins
that game, then they're not gonna win anything this year. Okay,
it may win a playoff game, but if they win
that game, I'll look at him slightly differently in terms
of whether or not they could get to nine or
ten wins. And they're not getting to eleven. I can't

(01:46:22):
not make it. That's a point of demarcation. They're over
runner totals ten and a half. All right. The last
three weeks, we've each we've each week, we've previewed two divisions,
and we're down to the final two, the AFC South
and the AFC West. So let me start with the
AFC South. If Jonathan Taylor and Anthony Richardson stay healthy.

(01:46:47):
And I've really sold on Anthony Richardson. He likes to
run too much, but he might make enough plays. And
last year those two missed three games each, but they
still almost made the playoffs. It is not a great division.
And I know that the Houston Texas are coming off
that stunning turnaround and you give it up to Dimiico

(01:47:10):
Ryans and CJ's drop. But I feel like the Colts
somehow win the AFC South. I got them going ten
and seven, and I think you're going to bring in
Shane Steichen, who's playing with a full deck. You know,
Anthony Richardson, you know he calls himself a mix of
Lamar Jackson and Cam Newton. Yeah, okay, but I like

(01:47:33):
the guy. But but look, the Colts are more than
just that the guy got a new rookie wide receiver
or Donne Mitchell. Their defense has been added to They
got one of the league's best pass rushes. And guess
what the Colts benefited from not having any any playoff
teams on their schedule the last of creaks of the season.
They could be a dark horse. Jacksonville spent big bucks

(01:47:56):
in free agency. They might have gotten a gym in
the first round with Brian Thomas. They're a new wide
receiver and look, you're gonna need big years out of
Trevor Lawrence and Christian Kirk and you know they've got
some youngsters, but they have enough talent to be in
the playoff mix. I don't think they'll win the AFC South.

(01:48:18):
I think they're ten at seven, nine and eight. I
think Houston's gonna be good nine to eight most likely.
That stunning turnaround. You know, there's an old saying what
goes up must come down. They improved so much over
the year before, and listen they bring in Stefan Diggs.
I think he's gonna be a major pain in the ass.
I like Nico Collins and Tank Dell, and you got

(01:48:40):
Dalton Schultz. Now you add Stefan Diggs. When you do
things like that, it causes me to raise an eyebrow.
So I love the Houston Texans story. I'm a big
CJS job fan of a big Demico Ryans fan. Really
am impressed what they did. Things have a way of
regressing to the mean, all right, and they play three

(01:49:00):
consecutive division winners. They got probably the AFC South's hardest
schedule in twenty twenty four. Sophomore slump surreal. Maybe I'll
be wrong, but they're gonna have to prove me wrong. Finally,
the Tennessee Titans, they're going nowhere. They're six and eleven.
You're bringing a first year coach in Callahan, and you
know you no longer have Derek Henry, you no long

(01:49:21):
have Ryan Tannehill. And look, it makes sense that you
try to juice up your offense. You bringing Calvin Ridley
and Tony Pollard, will Levis coming into his second year.

Speaker 5 (01:49:36):
What can you do?

Speaker 2 (01:49:37):
I don't know. I think it's a massive stretch to
believe that Tennessee could return to the playoffs next year.
They're just a different squad from the ground up. We'll see,
We'll see. That's an interesting division. It's difficult to predict.
I've been doing this too long. I just I love

(01:49:58):
what the Houston Texans did. But man, you watch all
of a sudden, things are gonna look different this year.
Maybe they'll prove me wrong. I still don't like the
Stefan Biggs acquisition. All right, let's finish with the AFC West.
I am sold, sold, and sold even more on the Chiefs,
their culture, their leadership, their commitment. You got Hollywood Brown,

(01:50:21):
Xavier Worthy now in the fold. There's no question that
their expectations. I think this team really wants to threepeat.
I think they can.

Speaker 5 (01:50:29):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:50:30):
No team has done it in the super Bowl era,
as you know, but for you trivia boff. So the
green Bay Packers won super Bowl One in nineteen sixty
seven they beat the Chiefs thirty five to ten. They
won super Bowl two in sixty eight to beat the
Raiders thirty three to fourteen. The final NFC had checked

(01:50:50):
that NFL championship game that was played before the super
Bowl era began, was in nineteen sixty six. Green Bay
also won at that So Vince Lombardi did three peat.
But during the super Bowl era, only two of those
championships were super Bowls. By the way, fore you trivia buffs,
they didn't even call it the super Bowl until I

(01:51:12):
want to say. Super Bowl four was the very first
year they printed super Bowl on the ticket. It was
called the AFL NFL Championship Game. Kind of a drab
ring to it. But look the Chiefs, even though they
had a big question that left tackle last year, an
offense that bogged down in times, they were combustible, they
got through the middle of the season. They had some

(01:51:33):
speed bumps. They won the Super Bowl last year. Part
of the reason. The defense has never been better since
Andy Reid arrived ten years ago. And the twoth of
the matter is, the Chiefs have rule this division for
eight years. What's going to change nothing. I think they're
going to improve on last season's eleven and six record.
I think they win twelve games this year, maybe even
thirteen eleven games last year. You talk about a standard

(01:51:57):
that's the worst since Patrick Mahomes became two one in
twenty eighteen. This is a very capable team. Yes, they
have a tall task. They want to achieve a Super
Bowl three peat. None of that's gonna matter based on
the fact that it's never been done before. The tooth
of the matter is, and this is a damning statistic.
Teams who've gone back to back Super Bowls the following year,

(01:52:22):
three of them missed the playoffs entirely. That's not gonna
happen to the Chiefs. Coming up, I'll get to the
rest of the division. You wonder about Hardball and the Chargers,
you wonder about the Raiders, you wonder about the Broncos.
I'll tell you what I think. I'm Bernie Fraddle. We're
coming to be alive from the Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio DIIREC dot Com studios. Keep it locked. You're listening
to the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right,

(01:52:43):
back on the Bernie Frale Show, Fox Sports Radio. Coming
up in twelve minutes. The Dan Sensation sweep in the nation.
What kind of brand new fool of you? Of course,
followed by what my name? We are wrapping up our
divisional pre reviews. Clearly I have the Kansas City Chiefs
winning the AFC West. Don't know who would really argue

(01:53:05):
with that. I think they'll win twelve or thirteen games.
They will improve on last year's eleven and six record.
Will they three peak? I don't know, but it will
not surprise me if they get to the Super Bowl again.
And you know who can knock him off? Well, I
don't know if Aaron Rodgers is healthy, and maybe Joe Burrow.
We'll see. Let's look at the rest of the division.

(01:53:26):
The last time Jim Harbaugh took over an NFL team,
the twenty eleven nine Ers, he made a seven win
improvement and almost qualified for Super Bowl forty six before
losing an overtime in the NFC title Game. Now that
might be too much to ask for this Chargers team.
But I still think the Chargers have a winning season.

(01:53:48):
I think they'll probably be nine to eight. I don't
think they're going to make the playoffs. I think they'll
hold only one playoff entrant from the AFC West, and
the Chargers do have plenty of town. I am hoping
that Justin Herbert stays healthy and be a shame. He's
a great dude all the way around. H And it's just,

(01:54:10):
you know, these young, talent, talented guys just better for
the league. He's got, He's got an O line that
is going to be improved. They're bringing a stud rookie
right tackle in Joe Alt. They have a relatively favorable
season ending schedule. But I think it's too much to
ask for, certainly too much to ask to overtake the

(01:54:32):
Chiefs in Harwall's first year, and it may be too
much to ask to get into a crowded playoff field
when I think you're going to see teams like the Jets.
I think I ever see the Browns in the playoffs.
I really do think you're gonna see the Bengals. Think
they're gonna see the Bills. I just don't think you're
gonna see the Chargers. The Raiders, come on, I think
they're a six win team. They've got players, and look,

(01:54:54):
I'm not a Raider basher. I'm not a Raider hater.
I don't really care. I think the NFL is better
when the Raiders are good. They sure as he'll beat
their chest. They sure as he'll beat their chest. I
mean they're you know, they're They were leading the Vikings
twenty to seven in the preseason game at halftime Week one.

(01:55:15):
Their broadcast team was losing their minds like they were
going to go to the super Bowl. And they didn't
win a game in the preseason. Big deal, which means nothing.
By the way, I remember two years ago when Josh
McDaniels went four and oh in the preseason. I've been
thinking to myself, Hey, I covered the greatest preseason team
of all time, the two thousand and eight Detroit Lions.

(01:55:35):
They were four and oh, scored eighty points, game up
thirty two. They went on sixteen. I think the Raiders
are going to be a tough out. They're gonna fight
every week. They're gonna be interesting. I don't dislike Gardner Minshew,
I just don't think he's a major league quarterback over
seventeen games. So you've got unsettled situations there. Once again,
what else is new? DeVante Adams is not happy. From

(01:55:56):
what I hear, hell of a player, brock Bowers the
st tight end out of a Georgia. I mean, they've
got talent, and I really like Antonio Pears. He really
galvanized the group. He had a nine game interim stint
last season. It did a really good job. I think.
All right, but the truth of the matter is you
got Gardner Minshew and Nadan O'Connell. Uh, they're gonna have

(01:56:16):
to carry a lot of weight this year, and in
a division that's got Justin Herbert and Patrick Mahomes. And
you know, even Denver is probably better off with their
quarterback and Bo Nicks because he's a guy that will
clearly execute Sean Payton's offense more efficiently than Russell Wilson did,
and Knicks might not have you know, the the the

(01:56:40):
I would say, the supporting cast of the guy like
Caleb Williams has. But from one, you know, I'm hearing
pretty good things coming out of Denver in terms of
how that how that looks. But you don't know, you
don't know until the season starts. And uh, by the way,
mark your calendars for a week two because if Russell

(01:57:02):
Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers, well, they will play in
Denver week two. If Russell Wilson's the starting quarterback, the
Broncals will have the distinction of paying eighty seven percent
of a salary of a quarterback who's competing against them.
So listen, these are my division winners. The Chiefs, the Colts,
the Cincinnati Bengals, and the New York Jets in the East,

(01:57:24):
and the AFC, the Niners, the Falcons. I think the
Lions and Packers tie in the NFC North and they'll
be a tiebreaker, and of course the Philadelphia Eagles in
the NFC East. No team is repeated there in twenty years.
And I don't expect the Cowboys to do it what

(01:57:45):
the Packers did. I don't think it's a fluke. I
think the Packers are gonna get They have a fifty
to fifty shot, well maybe not fifty to fifty. They
have a very good shot to get into the NFC
championship game. I don't think what they did last year
was a fluke. He has seven first young first Runners
on defense, really formed, came into their own. Jordan Love
is very good. The Niners are going to be very
good again, all predicated against injury. I think it'll be

(01:58:07):
the Lions packers of the Niners in the NFC Championship game.
Pick two of the three the Chiefs spangles. I want
to go out on a limb and say the Jets
I do. I really believe they can. I'm not sold
on the Ravens. So there you have it. It's gonna
be fun. It all starts in a couple of weeks,
well a week from Thursday, September fifth, be a great game. Baltimore,

(01:58:27):
Kansas City coming up. The dance sensation sweeping the nation.
What kind of brand new fool you followed by what
my name? Keep it lock and listening to the Bernie
Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. Yep, that's trache. I
heard the man the Bernie Frattle Show keeps for rolling
right along. My name is Bernie Fraddle. We are coming
you live from the tyrac dot com studios here in
Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio tyrect dot com. We'll help

(01:58:50):
you get here an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free
Roodazid protection and over ten thousand recommended installers tyrack dot
com tire buying should be well, we've come to that
junctor in the show. You know what, you love it?
You can't live without it because you see Yo. Gibera
once said, you can observe a lot by watching, and
that's exactly what we do. Because every day across this

(01:59:14):
great land of ars, from Seed to Oily Sea and
even around the globe, people they engage in activities, odd, weird,
questionable activities. Now, oftentimes these are just innocuous and silly,
don't make a lot of sense. Other times they're more serious,
and many times they want to follow the law and
they can land you in jail. But anyway you slice it,

(01:59:36):
anyway you characterize it, anyway you describe it, every one
of these activities, well they leave you scratching your head
and asking yourself, what kind of brand new fool of you?
This one will by far be the most unique one
I've ever done. It involves a former player for the

(01:59:58):
Detroit Lions, a rest a draft choice back in two
thousand and eight. Let me start with his name, Goster Cherylists.
The last year I covered the Lions, which was two
thousand and eight. Cherlists was drafted out of Boston College
in the first round as an offensive lineman, and he

(02:00:21):
had a decent career in the NFL. He's part of
the Lions only sixteen team, and I know that it
was Matt Millen's last year of being the GM. He
got fired at the end of September in two thousand
and eight. People really questioned this draft choice because he
came to the Lions without a lot of notoriety. He
was second team All League and the ACC is an

(02:00:41):
offensive line and still got drafted in the first round.
One of my radio partners, Mark Wilson, used to say,
ask your doctor about Goster Cherlists like it said some
kind of minute. We liked the name. We weren't making
fun and we had phone with okay, you get it well. Recently,
on a flight Delta air Lions from Boston and Logan
Airport headed for Doublin, Ireland, they had to return. They

(02:01:02):
had to turn around return to Boston because of a
disturbance involving a former NFL player by the name of
Goster Cherleiss. According to Massachusetts State Police, Delta Airlines requested
assistance from troopers. A terminally flight one fifty four because
they had to come back due to an unruly passenger.

(02:01:26):
The flight crew had formed the police that Cherless had
been quote physically aggressive towards a passenger over his seat
and wait for it, urinated on the passenger in flight.
This is a report from WCVB in Boston. Doctor Connie Bush,

(02:01:51):
who spoke with New Center five from Ireland, said she
noticed cheerless behavior during the flight. Quote. I did notice
earlier in the flight he did a lot of vocalizing
not you know, nonsensical kinds of things, and whistled every
once in a while. All Right, you get the picture.
No one could believe the copious amounts of yearine, etc.
The blanket was soaked, there was a puddle in the seat.
When that got up, there was urine splintered on the

(02:02:13):
monitor screen in front. In the meantime, one of the
flight attendants said, you know, they were trying to calm
him down, but they couldn't. Blah blah blah. Cherylists refused
verbal commands, was being argumentative, became noncompliant, was given a
verbal order to remove himself from the plane. He really resisted,
you know, leaving, but at least he didn't punch any

(02:02:35):
better or anything, But most of it was don't touch me.
But when you urinate on somebody, you're not having a
good day. Cherlests again. Former Boston college player, first round
draft choice in two thousand and eight all the Detroit Lions,
I was there. Played nine seasons with the Colts and
Tampa Bay Bucketers. Now Cheerless has been charged with disorderly

(02:02:55):
contact and disturbing a flight crew. He was arraigned in
Boston District Court last money. He pleaded not guilty and
including you know, he bleeded not guilty to the charges,
including disorderly contact, interfering with aircraft operation, and resisting arrests.
He didn't urilate on anybody in the courtroom, to the
best of my knowledge. Prosecutor also indicated there's a federal investigation.

(02:03:19):
This is a serious business. So that's our long winded,
crazy way of saying, Goster cherit lists with all due respect,
what kind of brand new fool are you? All right? Jay,
welcome back into the fold. I'm sure you got something
good for us.

Speaker 9 (02:03:36):
Yeah, and actually mine has something to do with an
airport as well. But we're going to Japan for this one.
Oh wow, Yeah, yeah, yeah, and I don't know if
it's kinda top mind from last week, but it's definitely
a headache with this one. So thirty six flights were
actually canceled and two hundred and one were delayed at
a Japanese airport on the weekend after a pair of
scissors went missing in a store near the boarding gates.

(02:03:58):
So security checks Hokkaido New Cheetos Airport, which actually had
over fifteen million people go through it last year, were
suspended for about two hours on Saturday morning, leaving hundreds
of travelers temporarily stranded. There were huge bottlenecks and queues
as passengers and the departure lounge were forced to retake
security checks because of this. This little the scissors that

(02:04:21):
went missing, so authorities tried to locate the missing scissors
but were not able to find it that same day,
so they did end up opening up flights and people
did end up going out, but get this Bernie.

Speaker 1 (02:04:33):
The next day.

Speaker 9 (02:04:35):
Airport authorities explained that they held off on making this
announcement because they wanted to confirm that the scissors were
found in the same exact store that they were lost,
and some random worker, I guess just messed up with inventory,
leading to those two hundred and one delays and dozens

(02:04:55):
of flights being killed. So this just leads me to say,
random worker who did his inventory wrong. What kind of
fool are you? What a headache, Bernie? Are you serious?

Speaker 2 (02:05:08):
Delayed, canceled, whatever?

Speaker 9 (02:05:10):
Why do they even sell scissors?

Speaker 2 (02:05:12):
Like? It doesn't you can't break Why scissors at the airport?
You do a haircut on the airplane exactly?

Speaker 9 (02:05:16):
It makes zerous.

Speaker 2 (02:05:17):
You can't get on it. I didn't think you could
get on it. And of course it is Japan, right,
maybe they got different rules.

Speaker 9 (02:05:23):
It's definitely a little bit stricter over there. But I again,
it's an airport, so I mean most places are strict,
So I just I don't get it. They really this
was one of the biggest headaches I've been I need
to buy a new pair of sits, go to the
airport tomorrow and just get them there. Right, My good one, Shade,
good one. The weirdness continues, Chef wring us all.

Speaker 6 (02:05:42):
Man, that's a bad day at work, man, missing inventory
and a flight got fired. Anyway, it was hard to
top shade story from last week, although I found one
that's in that direction and is a pretty good we
go to the land down under now shade store last
week involved a cow.

Speaker 1 (02:06:02):
This involves a couple and a fish.

Speaker 6 (02:06:07):
So Catherine June Lee and her partner, a man named
Ashley David Hallam, are facing charges for distributing Best Reality
as Lee, dressed in a black suit, appeared in Hoboart
Magistrate's Court on Monday seeking for an adjournment without a place.
So they're facing the charges and they allege that the

(02:06:29):
nerving film showed Lee lying on a boat at sea
somewhere near Tasmania South as her male co accused used
a live brown trout to perform a sex act on her.
The footage depicted quote sexual activity between Lee and the trout,
according to court documents. And yeah, they're facing charges. They

(02:06:50):
are from the Tasmania area and they're yeah, facing charges
on distributing bcality materials. So we'll see exactly what was
in that for them. But Catherine June Lee, Ashley David
Hallam of Australia, what kind of brand new fool are you?

Speaker 2 (02:07:10):
The trifecta is complete. Wow, in what location was that
Australia Australia's we had Australia Japan and a flight toward
Ireland that had to turn around. I believe that's the
first time we've had all three involving international incidents.

Speaker 9 (02:07:26):
We're international, this is an international show.

Speaker 2 (02:07:29):
We don't mess around. I can't get my mind on
the puddle of pee on the plane. You know, I
realize the guy who did the scissors and the people
were they were pissed off, right because they missed their flights.
It's just simple words to live by. It's still better
to be pissed off to be pissed on. Can I
say that? All right? Never mind, We're onward and upward, folks.

(02:07:50):
Great job guys, as always, as always, what kind of
brand new fool of you which allows us now to segue?
You know, said favored bit? What my name? Hey? We
go all right? In twenty twenty one, I set the
record as a college quarterback for most passing yards in

(02:08:13):
a single FBS season, Shaye Morganngard, what my name?

Speaker 1 (02:08:17):
Okay?

Speaker 9 (02:08:20):
Who in a single game, single season passing yards in
a single And this was twenty twenty one, twenty twenty one?
Was it Trevor Lawrence?

Speaker 2 (02:08:28):
Not Trevor Lawrence. Not a bad guess. I'm pretty sure
Trevor was only already in the NFL by that.

Speaker 9 (02:08:33):
Oh yeah, you're right.

Speaker 2 (02:08:34):
Yeah. In twenty twenty one, I set the record for
most passing yards in a single FBS season, Chef what
my name?

Speaker 6 (02:08:40):
Twenty twenty one? Most passing yards. I'm trying to think
who's in the spread off? Uh bo Nicks not bow Knicks.

Speaker 2 (02:08:50):
In twenty twenty one, I set the record for most
passing yards in a single FBS season, Mark Ramsey, what
my name? Hey? Ja?

Speaker 1 (02:08:57):
And mccaeron.

Speaker 2 (02:08:58):
Pretty good names, guys. Actually a young buck out of
Western Kentucky A bout the name of Bailey Zappy for
five and sixty seven yards. Wow, all right? Since twenty
twenty two, I've thrown more interceptions than any other quarterback
in the NFL. Shaan ogngar? What my name?

Speaker 9 (02:09:17):
Since twenty twenty two the most interceptions, let's say Jameis Winston.

Speaker 5 (02:09:25):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (02:09:26):
He threw thirty that one year. You know what's crazy?

Speaker 5 (02:09:29):
Not him?

Speaker 2 (02:09:30):
But do you defend that knucklehead? Six of them were
the first drive of the game, six of them were
in the fourth quarter, and six of them were picked sixes,
So he was an equal opp But it wasn't him?
All right? Since twenty twenty two, I've thrown more interceptions
in any other starting quarterback in the National Football League.
Chef what my name?

Speaker 1 (02:09:50):
Deshaun Watson?

Speaker 2 (02:09:51):
Not Deshaun Watson.

Speaker 1 (02:09:52):
He didn't play.

Speaker 2 (02:09:53):
I can't get on the damn field.

Speaker 9 (02:09:54):
Yeah, he can't. He doesn't play.

Speaker 2 (02:09:55):
But I like throwing him under the bus because I
don't like him anymore. All right. Since twenty twenty two,
I'm throwing more interceptions than any other quarterback in the
National Football League. Mark Ramsey, what my name?

Speaker 1 (02:10:10):
I got no one to wear? Rex Grossman?

Speaker 2 (02:10:12):
All right, I love it. I love the Rex Grossman reference.
Who've got the Bears to the Super Bowl? Back? I
believe it was Super Bowl forty one, all right, won
by the Colts. All Right, guys, you're gonna kick yourselves
because you are, because you guys are good at this.
But you know, no one back to one thousand. It's
actually Josh Allen.

Speaker 9 (02:10:28):
Oh he had the most last year too. Yeah, he
had like thirty something, right, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:10:33):
So the last two years basically, all right, let's flip
to baseball for the hell of it. In two thousand
and four, the stat blew me away. In two thousand
and four, I batted four to twelve cumulatively for all
my home games for my MLB team. Shae Mogangart, what's
my name for twelve? Batted four to twelve for the

(02:10:53):
entire season for all home.

Speaker 9 (02:10:54):
Games, all home games. So two thousand and four, yeah,
oh man for twelve, that's unhurt. Oh god, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:11:07):
I know, I know I wouldn't have got this one either,
but all right. In two thousand and four, I batted
for twelve cumulatively for all my home games for my
Major League Baseball team, Chef what my name.

Speaker 6 (02:11:21):
For twelve? For home games? I know Chipper Jones had
to run for a bit where he was really good,
so that's what I'm guessing.

Speaker 2 (02:11:26):
It's a good guess, but it's not him. In two
thousand and four, I batted for twelve for all my
home games for my respective Major League Baseball team. Mark
Ramsey with my name.

Speaker 10 (02:11:39):
I'm only thinking of. He's a Yankee now. He was
a Cub Frost baseman, but I don't know his name.

Speaker 2 (02:11:45):
It's actually a guy ou by the name of Barry Bahms,
who was honored in Pittsburgh Saturday night for the he
was with the Giants, then added for to twelve for
all home games. Right, the last time, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (02:11:56):
I was gonna say I was Learry Rob Adrian Beltree
of the MVP, But yeah, I.

Speaker 9 (02:11:59):
Was gonna say Manny Ramirez, but yeah, wow.

Speaker 2 (02:12:03):
Well Manny, Manny could rake. I never I don't know
if you ever really hit for average like that that
consistently for a whole year. I meant four twelvenheard of
for you know, eighty one home games. All right. The
last time the Dallas Cowboys actually drafted a quarterback in
the first round, it was me, Shaye Mogangar. What my name?

Speaker 9 (02:12:22):
The last time they got a first round pick?

Speaker 2 (02:12:24):
The last time the Cowboys drafted a quarterback in the
first round, it was me what my name was?

Speaker 9 (02:12:30):
That was that tray Man?

Speaker 2 (02:12:32):
It was absolutely true. Yeah, yeah, nineteen eighty nine. Nicely done. So.
The last time the Dallas Cowboys drafted a quarterback in
any round, it was me, Chef what my name?

Speaker 6 (02:12:47):
The last time the Dallas Cowboys drafted a quarterback in
any round? I'm gonna go with Dak, not Dak not
Dak Prescott.

Speaker 2 (02:12:55):
Last time the Cowboys drafted a quarterback in any round,
it was me Mark Ramsey, what my name, mister, not
Roger styleback. The last time the Cowboys drafted a quarterback
in any round, it was me, Shane Mogngart with my name.

Speaker 9 (02:13:10):
Is he not on the Cowboys anymore?

Speaker 2 (02:13:15):
I'm not sure he might be. I'd have to look
it up because he might be. As a matter of fact,
I'll have you look it up, and I give you
the name, not to be confused with Don Finucci, the
black hen.

Speaker 9 (02:13:29):
And he's not the Cowboys anymore.

Speaker 1 (02:13:33):
He's not a lot.

Speaker 2 (02:13:35):
I think he's in the league somewhere, honestly, earning a page.

Speaker 9 (02:13:38):
He's on the bills. He's on the bills. He played
there you go a little bit, there you go, Yeah, yeah,
he's on.

Speaker 2 (02:13:42):
There you go, all right. As an NFL wide receiver,
my record has held twenty one years. I had more
receiving yards in my first five seasons than any other
NFL receiver chef.

Speaker 1 (02:13:58):
With my name, twenty one years.

Speaker 6 (02:14:01):
So that puts us at two thousand and three, trying
to think of even receivers back then, Tim Brown.

Speaker 2 (02:14:12):
Not Tim Brown. As an NFL wide receiver, my record
has held twenty one years. I had more receiving yards
in my first five seasons than the other player, Mark
Ramsey went my name.

Speaker 1 (02:14:24):
Willie Goldt.

Speaker 2 (02:14:27):
Willy Galt of the eighty five Bears, a sprinter from
Tennessee who even took up ballet. I always liked Willie
Gault a lot. As an NFL wide receiver. My record
has held twenty one years. I had more receiving yards
in my first five seasons than any other receiver. Sham
Ogangar went my name, So for twenty one years, no

(02:14:48):
one's beating it. Jerry Rice, not Jerry Rice. Actually Tory
Hole to the Rams. Oh wow on turf.

Speaker 1 (02:14:56):
Wow, still waiting to get in the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (02:15:00):
I think he deserves it, don't Yeah, you know, sometimes
it takes a long long time for these guys, especially receivers.

Speaker 9 (02:15:05):
If Jefferson had a QB this year, I think he
would have broken it.

Speaker 2 (02:15:10):
Possible. Wow, all right. I still hold the all time
record in the NFL for most career rushing yards by
a quarterback. Chef, what my name?

Speaker 6 (02:15:20):
Most career rushing yards by a quarterback? Yep, Lamar Jackson,
not Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 2 (02:15:27):
I still hold the all time record for most career
rushing yards by a quarterback in the NFL. Mark Ramsey,
what my name?

Speaker 1 (02:15:36):
Mahomes?

Speaker 2 (02:15:38):
Not Patrick Mahomes. I still hold the all time record
for most career rushing yards by a quarterback. Shay what
my name? Kevin?

Speaker 9 (02:15:45):
You're gonna hite yourself and not getting this one.

Speaker 2 (02:15:47):
Michael Vick, it is absolutely yeah, yeah, I love Michael Vick,
always liked him.

Speaker 9 (02:15:52):
Great.

Speaker 2 (02:15:53):
All right, we're gonna go deep into the cookie jar
for you baseball trivia buffs. I'm the only Major League
baseball player in history to lead the league for a
season in home runs and stolen bases in the same season.
Chef what my name?

Speaker 6 (02:16:11):
Who has led the league both in home runs and
stolen bases in the same season?

Speaker 2 (02:16:15):
Only player in history to do it.

Speaker 1 (02:16:16):
I'll fonse the sorry onel not, Oh, that's a good guess,
it's not him.

Speaker 2 (02:16:20):
I'm the only Major League baseball player in history to
lead the league for a season in home runs and
stolen bases in the same season. Mark Ramsey, what my name?

Speaker 1 (02:16:29):
I want to go with Willie McCovey.

Speaker 2 (02:16:34):
The name's a load are worth the price of admission? Seriously,
I'm not being gratuitous here, all right. I'm the only
Major League Baseball player in history to lead the league
in home runs in stolen bases in the same season.
Shaane Mognguard, What my name?

Speaker 9 (02:16:48):
Akuna? Never know he didn't lead it in home runs.
It wasn't him. Oh man, who is this is old?
That has to be an old player.

Speaker 2 (02:16:58):
We gotta go all the way back to nine guys.

Speaker 9 (02:17:00):
Okay nineteen nine? Oh okay, ty com ty.

Speaker 2 (02:17:07):
I brought this up is because Otani's probably gonna hit
fifty home runs this year on steal fifty bases. The
problem is Elli Dyler Cruise is going to steal more basis.
Otherwise Otani would be the second player in history to
lead the league in home runs and stolen bases. I
don't I think. I think Elli Dyler Cruz already has
like sixty stolen bases, So I don't think. I don't

(02:17:28):
think Otana can catch him already. Do one more, guys.
We're gonna break tradition here. And the name I'm looking
for here is not the name of an individual. It's
the name of US College, all right. Even though our
football program has accumulated over seven hundred and eighty one

(02:17:49):
college football wins in our history. We've never won a
national championship. Thus we are the college with most CFB
wins without a national championship. Mogan gard what our name?

Speaker 9 (02:18:02):
Okay, so college with the most wins but no national
champions championships.

Speaker 2 (02:18:13):
Oh man, all right, even though we have seven hundred
and eighty one career college football wins, we never have
won a national championship. We have the most wins without
a national championship. Chef, what my name?

Speaker 1 (02:18:28):
I'm just going to take a wild guess to say
Michigan State.

Speaker 2 (02:18:32):
Well, Michigan State's won a national champions They actually spill
on with Notre Dame. They won, They won three of them.
Believe it or now. It was football Notre name in
sixty five. Well, look, it's been a hell of a while, right,
but yeah, not to dwell on that. All right. Well
see if Mark Ramsey can save the day. Even though
we have seven hundred and eighty one college football wins,

(02:18:53):
we have the most college football no press, no pressure
at all, you know the question, never won a national championship.
What our name? Uh?

Speaker 1 (02:19:03):
Slippery Rock?

Speaker 2 (02:19:05):
Slippery rock. I don't think it's slippery Rock, Believe it
or not, guys, It's West Virginia. Wow idea. And by
the way, I'm gonna make a prediction they're gonna upset
Penn State. I'm just saying they play Penn State and
taking the points. Yeah, yeah, that'll be again these matchups
this year. All right, great job guys, as always, another

(02:19:28):
rousing addition of what my name followed by of course
brand new fool. Actually I got that backwards. It's the
other way around. Work with me. I'm new with this guys.
By the way, it's our final weekend at the Fox
Sports Radio Summer of tire Rack sweep Steaks. Two winners
have already been rewarded, which to have one more listener

(02:19:49):
who will win to set a four brand new tires
plus installation, taxes and fees valued it up to fifteen
hundred dollars. You know the sweet steaks. Now get rules
at Fox Sports radio dot com. Do entry will be
allowed until midnight Eastern on Sunday into Monday, so be
sure to enter before the contest ends. At Fox Sports
Radio dot Com. The sweepstakes is furnished by tyrack dot Com.

(02:20:10):
The way tire buying should be. The Bernie Fraddles Show continues.
Keep it locked. Fox Sports Radio back at the Bertie
Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio Company, to live from the
Tarrack dot Com studios here in Las Vegas. A knucklehead
actually who never even played NCAA football, much less than

(02:20:34):
the NFL, who's thirty five years old, who lives in
New Orleans, thinks he's better than Patrick Mahomes, and he
even said why save that. We're gonna get to a
little later right after Chris profests world of Soccer, But
first we go back to our guy, the chef, Kevin Wyatt, with.

Speaker 6 (02:20:53):
The latest Yeah College football beginning with Week zero on Saturday,
and we've already seen a top ten upset as Georgia
Tech and Florida State playing across the pond in Dublin
to open up their seasons and the Yellowjackets scoring the
win against the tenth rank Seminals, winning it twenty four
to twenty one on a forty four yard field goal

(02:21:15):
as time expired. Elsewhere in college football, SMU with a
win against Nevada twenty nine to twenty four Montana State,
the first FCS over FBS upset of the season. They
go to Albuquerque to beat in Mexico thirty five to
thirty one, getting three fourth quarter touchdowns. The late game
of the night over in Honolulu, Hawaii beats Delaware State

(02:21:39):
thirty five to fourteen to open the Rainbow Warriors season.
In Major League Baseball, the Dodgers winning streak snapped at
five games as the Tampa Bay Rays get home runs
in both the ninth and tenth innings to win it
in LA nine to eight. Arizona has now made it
five a straight wins. They beat the Red Sox four
to one. San Diego, however, falls to the New York

(02:22:00):
met seven to one, so LA's lead in that division
right now sits at three games. Cleveland head by two
games in the America League Central. That's after the Guardians
demolished the Texas Rangers thirteen to five. The Minnesota Twin
shut out the Cardinals six nothing, but the Kansas City
Royals loose to the Phillies eleven to two behind two
home run seven RBIs from JT. Real Muta. That Al

(02:22:23):
East as tight as ever, and the Yankees lead once
again back down to a half a game after they
lose to the Colorado Rockies nine to two, while the
Orioles gonna win three to two against the Astros and
in the Little League World Series, we do have the
championship set. Taiwan beat Venezuela four to one, Florida over
Texas ten to seven on Saturday, so it'll be Taiwan

(02:22:43):
and Florida facing off for the Little League World Series championship.
And in WNBA, Kaitlin Clark in action on Saturday. She
didn't get twenty three points eight assists, but the Fever
do lose of Minnesota ninety to eighty.

Speaker 1 (02:22:58):
Beck to Berne.

Speaker 2 (02:23:00):
All right, chef, good stuff to that, buddy, uh laanel Messi,
where have you gone? America turns their lonely eyes to you.
Maybe Chris Purfetts got the interest coming up, Chris Burfetts.

Speaker 11 (02:23:15):
World of Soccer, The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the
international drum. It's all here in this report from the

(02:23:36):
World of Soccer.

Speaker 12 (02:23:38):
Four European leagues all rejoined play last week Verdi and
this week Bundesliga got underway. On Friday, defending champions bayer
Leferkusen scored a thrilling three to two victory over Borussia Moncheglabach,
and the winning goal come came in the one hundred
and eleventh minute in the dying seconds of stoppage time,

(02:24:00):
as Leverkusen looks to defend a historic title that saw
them running away with the with the Bundesliga last year.
If you recall last year, they were on something of
a lossless streak. They had refused to post a lost
and was picking up points for quite a while.

Speaker 1 (02:24:18):
Now it's a very good thing.

Speaker 12 (02:24:19):
They'll be keeping the lead on Florian Wurtz as long
as they have him, who scored two goals, including that
winning goal we just mentioned, and it gives new life
into Bundesliga, once one of the most exciting leagues, especially
in fan culture in Europe, and yet I feel has
really diminished itself by basically being Bayern Munich, Bayern Munich,

(02:24:40):
Bayern Munich, Bayern Munich for over a decade and croaching
into a decade and a half in some places. The
more teams are competitive in a league, the better it is.
Bayer Leverkusen coming out of the gate strong, you know,
is a great sign. But I hope we're also going
to see stuff this year out of RBI, Leipsig, out
of Russia dortmun out of Stuttgart, and yes, out of

(02:25:03):
Bayern Munich as well. The old Kings cannot fade away,
but I would like to see a lot more competition
than rather than even in the year that Bayer Leverkusen won.
Last year, they ran away with it to the tune
of a seventeen point lead over over the second place
Russia dortmun It's hard to ask for things to be
competitive in domestics league soccer, but the more they are,

(02:25:26):
the closer they are all to being competitive all the time,
the better off the sport is. Speaking of competitive, the
Premier League season in England is starting to take shape.

Speaker 1 (02:25:36):
There are a lot of teams with a lot of
hope out here.

Speaker 12 (02:25:38):
At some point I might talk about Brighton Hove Albion,
who has been one of these teams who's always been
knocking on the door or even asked in Villa. But
I want to turn my attention to a team who
we've seen at the top and yet questions remain to
see what their new future looks like, and that is Liverpool.
We spoke at length last season about the departure of
their longtime manager Jurgen not for any dismissal or failure

(02:26:03):
to produce, but rather a massive burnout from the German
wonder Kin who had brought Liverpool several A Champions League title,
Premier League titles and had kept the club at the
top among the Big six. And it actually paid dividends
in an era that is increasingly becoming more and more
dominated by Manchester City. However, a lot of questions surround Liverpool.

(02:26:25):
I don't expect them to see them fade off entirely.
They started the Premier League strong two nil over Ipswich Town,
a newly promoted side. They'll be taking on Brentford here
on Sunday in one of the big games eleven thirty
am Eastern Time. Brentford getting off to a one win start,
but not exactly the world beaters. But either way, Liverpool,

(02:26:48):
now with its new manager arn Slot, has a lot
to figure out. Mohammed Sala, their superstar, a scoring phenom
in the Premier League, has been I need it rout
with the idea of transferring out. You know, we've seen
his name come up during the transfer window a lot,
and yet he remains for the time being at Liverpool.

(02:27:10):
It's another year that started with Mohammed Salaz scoring a
goal in the first game of the season, something he's
done nearly every year except for I believe twenty seventeen
that he's been with the club, and he is something
of a key figure to the club. So is Darwin
Nunez and Luis Diaz and plenty of players who just
really need to step up and send Liverpool over the

(02:27:33):
top because this is a very tough year. Arsenal has
shown there are no such out Manchester City have a
guy named Erling Holland. He already scored last week, just
just letting you know he's already back and scoring. But
what are we to do with Liverpool? What are we
to do with the men up at Anfield? They haven't
really been active signing anyone here in this window. Arnslatt

(02:27:54):
does look ready for the job to fill Jurgen Klop's shoes,
and yet they're inactivity at the summer window. Kind of
leaves a lot of questions to be asked. This might
be the swan song of Liverpool, not just Mohammed Sala
in the final year of his contract, but we're also
looking at contracts that are now done with after this year,

(02:28:16):
with Virgil Venjique, with Trent alex Xander Arnold final years
of their deals. No new deals seemingly on the horizon
for the time being, which means all signs really point
to this might be if there are no new deals
at any point, a final run for what has been.

Speaker 1 (02:28:34):
Liverpool's golden age of the modern times.

Speaker 12 (02:28:38):
However, I still expect them to make Champions League at
the very least, but just as they were kind of
making that kind of mid season push for the Premier
League title, I think I'd like to see them win
the domestic league, and I'm sure they would like to
win the Premiership as well, especially since it remains a
very presigious title to them, to Liverpool's fans and everything else.

(02:29:01):
And you know, Bernie, in the dying days the summer
which should have been MLS's time, we still look back
to and look to the MLS because those playoffs are
going to be fast approaching coming down the pike here
in the fall. And I guess the question is for
Lionel Messi, who has been out for quite some time
since Copa America, when will we see him back on

(02:29:23):
the pitch for Inter Miami now.

Speaker 1 (02:29:25):
Inter Miami's head coach TODDA.

Speaker 12 (02:29:27):
Martine did confirm that Messi will be ready to join
the team for training soon. He's recovering from a ligament
injury he suffered during the Copa America finals, and this
kind of mirrors some of what we were talking about
last week about Manchester United and their own concern among
their fans and among commentariot about one of their own
stars playing in euro Championship, even though he hadn't really

(02:29:49):
been playing healthy for the club since February. But it
is a question of Leonel Messi has staked a lot
on his image and the end the MLS has staked
a lot on his image, bolstering League in America that
Lionel Messi play, and for the second year there's been
quite a bit of MLS track here that has not
had Lionel Messi featured in it, be it because of

(02:30:10):
injury or because of the twenty twenty four Copa America
and Argentina taking precedence, And to be honest, if you
are a fan of MLS, even he has kind of
slightly been overshadowed. For those who really care about MLS,
we're probably more looking towards something like Columbus and LAFC
in a rematch of the MLS Cup happening in the
League's Cup final, which will happen here on Sunday, and

(02:30:33):
it'll be a very thrilling matchup. And if you're someone
though who is just kind of casually curious and you're
coming in for Lionel Messi, then that really doesn't bring
anything to you, and Leonelle's Messi's absence doesn't really bring
anything in MLS to you. What interest do you have
if he's not out there on the pitch. It's become
the catch twenty two that MLS has found itself mired in.

(02:30:53):
They've made a huge gamble and selling a lot of
their product and a lot of their matches and Apple
TV Plus subscriptions out to people who came in to
see Lionel Messi, and Leonel Messi hasn't really been out there.
This is one of the dangers of putting so much
of your product on the shoulders of one star instead
of growing out a vast, healthy ecosystem. The good news is,

(02:31:17):
unlike last year, is that Inter Miami will definitely be
in the MLS Cup playoffs, barring some sort of cataclysmic
collapse down the stretch. Here in September, as they stand
atop of the Eastern Conference at fifty three points going
into the weekend with FC Cincinnati trailing behind them and
Columbus Crew the defending champions, in third place in the East.

(02:31:39):
And I suppose then only then will we really get
to see if the Messi experiment does start to pay off.
If playoff soccer in America with Leonel Messi is enough
to get people to come over and watch soccer in
the midst of the American football season, that's it for us.

Speaker 1 (02:31:54):
Bernie will see you next time in the world of soccer.

Speaker 2 (02:31:57):
All right, come back and messire goal pretty much every game.
No one seen that kind of level of play before.
Speaking of level of play, let's say you played flag
football at Xavier University in the intramural league and you
say you're better than Patrick Mahomes. Okay, we're gonna out

(02:32:17):
this guy. We're gonna tell you who he is and
why he said it. I'm Bernie Frattle. We're coming to
you live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Tirat
dot Com Studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to the
Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, we're
wrapping it up on the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Coming to you live from the tyrac dot Com studios
here in a Las Vegas. Before I go any further,

(02:32:40):
I want to thank my broadcast team back in Los Angeles.
They've been with me since eleven pm Pacific time on
Friday night. The chef Kevin wired all the updates and
of course is baffo performance at one thirty am Shayan
Mogan guard jumping into night. Great job guys on of
course brand new fool, what my name and all the
other input and mark rams are technical producer, turning all

(02:33:02):
the dials, keeping us glued together and jumping in on
the input as well. Great teamwork, great camaraderie, gate, great chemistry,
unlike the Dallas Cowboys. See we're here man, We're bringing it.
Good job guys, ladies and gentlemen. Meet Darryl Ducett. He

(02:33:25):
didn't play football in the NFL, didn't even play in
CAA football. Now I understand he played a little inner
mural flag football at Xavier University. So hell, that's something
I guess right. It must be because the thirty five
year old Darryl Ducett, who apparently lives in New Orleans,

(02:33:48):
thinks he's a better player than wait for it, three
times Super Bowl champion and MVP Kansas City Chiefs quarterback
Patrick Mahomes. Does this guy I need to lie down
with a cold compress, get himself some warm milk and
soft music. So this goes away. Here's this quote, I

(02:34:10):
feel like I'm better than Patrick Mahomes because of my
IQ the game. Unquote. Of course he is the quarterback
of the world champion US flag football team and quote,
I know he's right now the best in the NFL.
This is Darryl Ducett talking about Mahomes. I know he's
more accurate. I know he has all these intangibles, but

(02:34:30):
when it comes to flag football, I feel I know
more than him. Well, this got back to Mahomes and
he actually responded on Twitter by reposting a clip of
Dust's comment along with a gift of Rapper fifty cent
asking why his name was brought into the conversation in
the first place. So, for whatever reason, this due set

(02:34:54):
has drawn attention. He was interviewed by a publication called
The Guardian a couple of weeks ago, and apparently he
said that du Set feels he feels it's disrespectful to
the flag football community to automatically assume that the NFL
players will be the ones to represent the US when
the sport makes its Olympic debut at the twenty twenty

(02:35:15):
eight Los Angeles Games. Yeah, why would you have them?
The only some of the most elite athletes in the
world do. Set went on to say that his team
is ready to defend their title bit this coming. It's
in twenty twenty four at the International Federation of American
Flag Football World Championships. I believe actually the tournament is

(02:35:37):
next week in Finland. That you didn't know that because
I didn't know it either. By the way, Daryl Is
said even has a nickname. He's known as Hush. I've
never seen the guy, but they say he bears a
resemblance to former NFL star TJ. Huschmansada, who you hear
on this network. Wonder how TJ. Huschmansada feels about that.

(02:36:02):
That is said, I think backed off a little. He said,
you know, I appreciate the love and support the NFL,
and the NFL guys are definitely giving flag football. I
love the fact they want to play, they want to
come out and compete. At the end of the day,
we want the same process we've been having to play
at First of all, don't don't end your you went
to xavior. Don't don't end your sentences in a preposition.

(02:36:23):
Mister Dews said so quote, we have to try out,
and so do they. I don't want to be like
they're entitled because of their names to be just automatically
on the team. This guy speaks clunky English, dude, that's
what it sounds like from the perspective of the flag
football world. Quote. We are fans of these guys, and
like I said, we love the fact they want to
go out and win the gold medal and represent the

(02:36:44):
country just like us. But we don't want to be
forgotten about, because we're the ones who helped this game
get where it's at. Once again, you've finished, You ended
the sentence in a preposition, forgotten about. We never heard
of you. I do this for a living. I've never
heard of you, you know. So Look when when flag
football was announced as a twenty twenty Olympic sport, the

(02:37:06):
public started to speculate about which NFL players would represent, right,
Caleb Williams, Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow maybe whatever not Darrell
do set And even though Daryl just said things, you
know they think you're just gonna walk on the field
and dominate. This is in the NBA. Okay, you're all
over the mat. My friend never heard of you. God
you know, God bless you. Lie down and get yourself

(02:37:27):
a cold compress and Warren milk and soft music. Hopefully
it goes away. It's gonna do it for the Bernie
Frattle Show. Joy the rest of your weekend. Keep it
locked right here. Up next, the Great Andy Furman on
Fox Sports Radio.
