Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Let's go, let's go, let's go big boy, Let's how
about my wildcat, let's go.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Okay, listen, we're not going to use the opening segment
to talk about you or your crappy picks or what
was a dominant foreman.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
My picks are horrible again and.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
They're about aready get And you didn't even include one
of your losses either, No, I cut all of them
nighted because you went with North Carolina late as North
Carolina minus too. Well, you didn't include it as a push.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Well that doesn't matter, Yes it does.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
You You're now you're even touched up. I don't care. Listen,
let's stop, stop, stop, stop stop. We don't care about
your picks. We don't care about Arizona. Right now, we
are getting an absolute classic right now between USC and LSU,
and it's coming down to the wire. Tied up at twenty,
USC has the football back. They'll start from their twenty
five yard line a minute forty seven left. They haven't
(00:55):
managed their timeouts well, but it doesn't matter in college
because under two minutes you get back to the clock
stopping on first downs, the field goal kicker has been,
but it seems as if both teams when they need
to can get chunk yardage plays. And as we come
to you live tonight from the tire rack dot Com studios,
ti rack dot com will help you get there an
unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection, and
(01:19):
over ten thousand recommended installers tire rack dot com. It's
the way tire buying should be. I don't know if
you could have asked for a better game to we
got one more game tomorrow night, but essentially put a
rap on the first full weekend of college foot.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
You know, I want to tell you there's no way
of answering this, But where would this score be right
now if LSU didn't pick up personal foul penalties after
like a big score, one that set them backwards, set
up USC for a touchdown, or they were kicking off
on their own twenty I mean, it's like they bought it.
They pick up like three personal foul penalties or even
more than that. And I saw it all through week
(01:52):
number one. Chris, it's embarrassing. On what's going on out there?
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Well, okay, two things are happening in college football, and
I think I've seen it on display here tonight. Number one,
they are really emphasizing, for some reason, the extra curricular
activity after play. You would think that they would allow
guys to have a little bit more of a personality,
but it's not the case. College football officials are clamping
(02:16):
down on it, and I think it's players are gonna
get used to it, Arnie, hopefully, because some of them
are just dumb. Right, some of these guys are doing
danger like, well, that's a foul, even if it's not.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
I don't agree with I have not argued once after
watching a penalty, going oh, come on, let that go.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
I'm like, jesz, the guy deserves it.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
What's he doing?
Speaker 3 (02:38):
What's he thinking out there? I take it off? Your helmet?
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Has taken off your helmet? We've that rule has been
around forever. How many times has somebody taken off their helmet?
And you should know better by now.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
It's LSU. LSU has committed nine penalties for eighty five
yards in this game, and it seems as if every
single one of them, Dude, have been incredibly costly. That's
number one, the alleged emphasis. But guys are just they're
really not being smart. You've seeing a lot of ridiculous
mistakes that are being made just in over celebration or
taking your helmet off. Good are even late hits. We've
(03:09):
seen some cheap shots as well. Number two, Arenie, And
this is what you're gonna have to get used to,
at least in this game. These are Big twelve officials, okay,
that are calling this game, and Big twelve officials are
the absolute worst. So that might be part of the
problem with the way things have gone here tonight, with
the quick whistles. But in honesty, in all honesty, like
you said, I really haven't had a problem too much
(03:31):
with some of the calls that have been made here tonight. No,
I have not.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
I mean they're doing their job.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
I really don't pay attention to really what conference the
officials are in. Basketball makes a difference to me more
so than football for something. Oh you're about to find out,
mister Stanier. It's gonna make a big difference with Big
twelve officials, is what you're telling me.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
They're just not very good. They're just not They're not
very good. And I don't know how else to put it.
It's it hasn't been a point of emphasis in their
front office for a while. They had Walt Anderson that
was running it, and he's not. I mean, I can
nerd out on this. I won't, but bottom like, get
ready because you might say, oh, I've never thought about it,
you're about ready to all right? What do you think
(04:10):
of the way USC is handling this two minute situation?
They're all just right off the bat. I'm surprised at
USC's defense. I didn't expect them to be as bad
as they were last year or the year before. Huh oh,
they really.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Are.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
I gets that LSU offense.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Are we losing? Are you okay? Are we losing stinking genius?
Or is that me that was? Yeah? I'll say this much.
I'm watching this defense and it's a completely different world
for USC. It really truly is that. Now. Have they
made some mistakes? You bet? Are there some guys that
have been running wide open because these LSU receivers are playmakers? Yeah, absolutely,
(04:50):
but they're they're tackling, they're making the plays when they
need to make the plays. I mean, this has been
If I'm a USC fan, regardless of what happens, if
they win the game on a field goal, if this
goes to overtime, you gotta feel pretty good. Now listen,
hold on, I'm a little bit behind. Where are you
at right now? You had eighteen seconds.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
I'm it to eighteen seconds and then second and fifteen.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
So they called that a false start.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
Yes, they called it a false start.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Now they called that second and fifteen. Excuse me, second
and fifteen now.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Earlier in the game, just quickly up there, tied to
twenty twenty twenty. LSU was in great position and their
offense absolutely wet the bed down in the red zone.
But LSU did that thing when they shifted their defensive line,
and that was a penalty against LSU earlier in the game.
I saw that. Now they just called it against USC.
(05:40):
See what I'm saying already big twelve reps. But I
mean Lincoln Riley has not managed this game. Well, I've
blown a couple of timeouts, but this team is still
in position. They still got a shot.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
They have the ball deep and that penalty is going
to be hitting a defensives receiver. So they're going to
have it first in ten think maybe first in goal
with thirteen seconds left.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
They only have one time out though, Grizzo, you.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Want to matter a field goal?
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Yeah, you're right, and so you want to be careful.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
You don't want to try to score with a touchdown
at this point because the US's ball goalkicker did miss
the twenty nine yard or.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
So, you might not want to leave it.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Up to that. That's ballgame. That's ballgame. I mean, that's
the that's my good I'm gonna throw something. That's one
of the dumbest plays I think I've ever seen in
college football, Arnie, What is that? Was that a safety
or a corner? I didn't see who it was, you know,
do you know what? And by the way us he
would have been in in a field goal position even
(06:37):
without that personal.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Foul right right helmet to helmet there, So like what targeting?
Speaker 1 (06:42):
What are you even doing? How can you put your
team in that situation? Jardan Gilbert is who they're going
to get on, and.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
I disagree with your Chris. I mean, he's trying to
make a play. He knows that if he jars the
ball loose, if he doesn't jar the ball loose, they're
going to be in field goal range. Yeah, he dipped
his head a little bit, but it's rule. I understand
that he's coming full steam. It wasn't like he you know,
like some of the other ones you've seen when they
lower the head and dive into the guy. I I
(07:13):
don't think it's not bad at all.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Really, are we watching the same play goes helmet to
helmet on the dude, what the freaking hell are you
talking about?
Speaker 2 (07:23):
It just didn't look like you know, it was just
looking like he was trying to jar the ball loose
and not really go help me.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
I understand that. I hear what you're saying, but you've
been taught it, You've gone through film study. You know
you got to get lower than him or what I'm
with you. I wish it wasn't a foul to begin with.
But as much as that's been drilled into your head,
well I don't.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Like that they they should have to throw you out
after the second time, not after the first time. That
that get's ridiculous. That did they tossed? I mean they're
going to toss him. They're looking at him. That's my guess.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
I'm I don't know yet.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
I'm not I'm still heaving a few seconds behind you,
but I think it's I think they'll end up tossing him.
That that would suck. I would say, do it after
the second time, But they're not going to change it obviously.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Now do it after the second time? Are we going
to change the rules? Uh the game here too? I mean,
it's just it's I gotta tell you something. That's sack
of the catch. You can you can say what you
want to about the hit. Yeah, that is a heck
of a catch. And I'm telling you what, LSU moves to.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
The balls to the helmet to helmety my jar that
one lose.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Really. Oh no, you said it was a great play
and that's what he should have done. So I don't
know what you're talking about. But here's the here's what's
also weird about this and just kind of watching it
all play out in real time here on Fox Sports
Radio from the tire rack dot Com studios. I mean,
LSU knew that this game was tied, right, They knew
that LSU or USC needed just a field goal to
(08:52):
win this game, not a touchdown, right, because the way
they were playing, Holy smokes, they were giving those guys
all the space in the world. I mean, if I
was if USC would not have put themselves in field
goal range, I would have been absolutely shot with the
way that this thing played out.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
They were just I guess if you're USC right now,
you already gonna run the ball, use your time out,
set it up somewhere in the middle of the field,
and probably finish this game off walk away with a
little bit of an upstubs. You are for now, point dog.
But a good way to start the season off against
the tough LSU team. The way this thing started, I
thought LSU was gonna run up and down the field
against this team, or move the ball up and down
(09:31):
the field against this team.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
But nose looks today.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Dude got tossed. It was again. I don't I don't
like the rule. I'm just gonna I don't like the
rule at all. I think it's been a it's been
a dumb rule. It's over officiated. But we it's not
like it's just been added this year. So you're saying,
if you're Lincoln Riley here, well then you try to.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Go a touchdown. I think they let him do it
on purpose.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
But well, if I was, if I was LA shoot,
I sure his heck wouldn't let him score a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
I try to make only eight seconds left.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
You just try to hope they missed the field goal,
or or you block it or you get a bad snapper.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Maybe there was a big something happened defensively, but he just.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
Ran right up the middle. I think they were just
setting it up for the for the field goal. Next
thing I know, he's aids in the end zone.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
I mean, let me, I'm just now gear a little
bit ahead of me.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
So unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
No, that was just bad defense. I don't think they
were letting him score.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
But you had everything. Isn't that where the defense was
was up the middle? When you think that's whether he
should be.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Here? What did I tell you guys last week? What
if I I should be the stinking genius show you
should hand this moniker to me. I told everyone last
night when I by the way, the game's not over.
But I was telling everyone last night when I was
feeling it for Bernie Fratdo. This is the ultimate Lincoln
Riley type situation. I've covered this dude from day one
when he came to Oklahoma. He is he is a
(10:56):
heck of a big game coach. Right and early in
the season, he he wins games that he is counted
out forgotten about. And he did something tonight. Is the
sager in I heard to Saga bring this stat up earlier.
If if USC holds on and wins this, it's twenty
seven to twenty with the extra point. Good. It's the
(11:18):
first time that he's won a game when he's been
down four more against the top twenty five team.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
He entered tonight, USC specifically zero and seven when it
trailed a ranked opponent by any margin in the fourth quarter.
Oh good God, that's step further. You're correct on the
first one, but this is even more. Since he arrived
at USC literally had not won a game trailing a
ranked opponent in the fourth quarter any march you see here?
Speaker 1 (11:41):
Let me well, No. Four hit him ten. I don't know.
Do you think that was on purpose? Guys, No, it wasn't.
You're right.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
It was just bad defense.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
It was overran it.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
It was as horrible that. Yeah, some of the guys
over Andy cuts it right up the middle.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Next week.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Some misstackles too.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
And I would add that the guy you mentioned, Jardon Gilbert,
the safety who got kicked out for the targeting late
and handing SC fifteen extra yards. This was his LSU
debut tonight after three years at Texas A and M.
Apparently he's from Louisiana, played high school football less than
a mile from LSU's Tiger Stadium. Gets in a Tiger
uniform tonight in a tie game in the final minute
(12:20):
and gets kicked out of the game.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
It looks like he's gonna blow a gasket. I'm telling you, well,
this is the fin sticking out of his neck.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
This would be the second year in a row that
they've absolutely well. Last year against Florida State they are routed.
Was it two years ago whenever they had yeah against
Florida State? And now a thriller here that they're on
the wrong end of well. I say that you never
know with crazy lateral, wouldn't you have made on a kickoff?
(12:50):
Just squibbed it down the field?
Speaker 2 (12:52):
I was thinking the same go off, right, I was
thinking the same thing. But it doesn't look like it's
going to make a difference anyway.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
It looks like interception. All right, ballgame? There you go
USC for USC wins. It's opener. We are just big.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
That's big you LSU thirteen. Let's drop them out of there,
drop them.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
Down, drop them down. How far do you think they'll fall?
Speaker 3 (13:15):
Hopefully behind Arizona? That's all I care.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
I see where the show's going tonight. We've got a
lot of coverage coming up from Las Vegas. We're gonna
hear from Todd Furman, who is at the game tonight.
He slated a joint is coming up in hour number two.
We've got if I'm understanding everything correctly here in the rundown,
aren't He started yelling at the yelling at the crew.
(13:38):
So I don't know if we were ever able to
hash anything out as far as whom we could or
could not have on the program today. But Patrick, we
have boots on the ground. We have a stringer that's
going to try to get us a player or two
from this right, Oh, we do all right? Okay, all right,
So we'll hear from hopefully one of the USC Trojans
(13:59):
after they pick up a massive opening season win beating
LSU twenty seven to twenty. And if you're an LSU
fan or if you're an LSU, oh, I don't think
he caught that. Are they reviewing this?
Speaker 5 (14:15):
No?
Speaker 3 (14:15):
No, no, he's did's the game's over?
Speaker 1 (14:17):
They okay? And I was all right, it looked like
the ball kind of popped out a little bit. But
that was Oliver, the kid that transferred from Oklahoma State
making a big defensive play. If you're an LSU fan,
you go, you got to be kicking yourself like crazy, onie,
because you had every opportunity to win this football game.
USC tried to hand this to LSU down the stretch,
(14:39):
and the Tigers just couldn't get out of their own way.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Man. And by the way, tell our producer, we want
Miller Moss on. Let's let's get him on. Let's hear
from him. He's waited his time. Oh, you had a
great game. I want to hear from him. I want
to see if they can get him on.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
All right, well, I mean we'll see if you're just
gonna roar the whole time interview. Moss ends up tonight
twenty seven of thirty six for three hundred and seventy
eight yards, unbelieved one touchdown. USC couldn't really run the
ball all that well, but in the end it didn't
really matter. Garrett ntsmar I thought it was fantastic too.
(15:15):
He gets deemed with that one interception. L he played
well too. He goes for over three hundred yards and
we have ourselves an instant classic to wrap things up.
Oh does this change your opinion on USC going forward
the rest of the way, or do you think it's
gonna be a little bit tougher now for them when
they get into the Big Ten. What do you make
(15:35):
it if they got Michigan in two weeks. I don't
think I change anything. I thought they were gonna be
a much better team, you know, than they were in
seven in the last fourteen games. After what they did
against Hawaii, do escape of the three point victory? Now
I know why they were predicted so far down in
(15:58):
the Big Ten. So it kind of confirms what we
thought earlier. All Right, when we come back to the
tyrack dot com studios, it's a final. We'll take you
to Vegas. We'll hear from the stars of the game.
Is USC knocks off LSU in dramatic fashion and we
get all the takes and insight and knee jerk reactions
from week one of college football. Coming up next on

Speaker 1 (16:45):
On our show. Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated. You don't
interrupting our promo.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
Yeah, he wasn't talking about you. You took those clips
totally of context.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Oh yeah, well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you. Let me put this into context.
Shut up.
Speaker 6 (17:03):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Paully and Toni Busco
Show on IET Radio, Apple podcasts O wherever you get

Speaker 1 (17:09):
Yeah, it's a final. It is a final. Usc Windnesday night,
twenty seven to twenty over LSU and back of a
start to the season for the Big Ten. Their teams
go seventeen and one, only lost for the Big Ten.
Arnie Minnesota though.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
Oh I was gonna say the Minnesota North Carolina game.
How about that?
Speaker 1 (17:36):
Also, Arnie's picks, where'd you go this week? Three and nine?
Speaker 3 (17:40):
I went three and seven.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
You had twelve picks?
Speaker 3 (17:45):
I had eleven picks of one was a push?
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Yeah, I thought you had twelve.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
No, I had ten and I threw it in North Carolina.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
That was a push, So sure you're not going to
count that one as a win.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
I'm not counting it as a win.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
Mentioned there three and seven right now? My record is
three and eleven.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Oh that's what your overall record is three and eleven?
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Yeah, overall three and eleven against the spread?
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Can I take over the picks now?
Speaker 3 (18:15):
I'm off to us little But you know what now
is you know in the NFL king, So that's next.
So great, let's go.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Mister Nobody hits us up very early in the show
and says, I don't know if you guys are allowed
to talk about this on the air, but a lot
of people miss the LSU USC game and more could
miss the BC Florida State game tomorrow night because the
contract dispute between the Four Letter Network and Direct TV.
As an FSU fan, this bothers me greatly. Don't we
(18:42):
typically have this every single year?
Speaker 2 (18:45):
It's yes, and then they get it settled like like
the day before, and then everybody's happy. It just worked
out the other way around where they yanked this like
four minutes before.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
The start of the game, and that was a no no.
And they also took off the tenants, of course.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
And yeah, though they took off all the ESPN.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
S, all the ESPN entities, so a lot of people
didn't even get to watch today's USCLSU game.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
Yeah, I gotta be honest. I got lucky, I guess
because I went check ESPN and it was gone. I
put it out on Twitter thanks to everyone who had advice.
I liked the person that said, why don't you just
pull it up on the app? I'm like, you dope.
They got a block there too. I somehow got lucky.
I don't know if they were having mercy on me,
but our local station still had it. But I don't
(19:32):
do my show in my house. I do it from
my one hundred degree garage, Arnie so thankfully, thankfully, an
intrepid diehard listener helped me out. Thank you sooner Lisa
for allowing me to watch at least some of the
game through sling. But this got to stop, and I
know I'll put something out there and people get mad,
like it's the greedy networks, it's the providers, don't I
(19:53):
don't care. I don't care who it is. I know
who I pay my money to to make sure I
can have all the big games, and we you don't
have those games? What am I paying for it? No
one ever gives you a rebate on it either.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
You know, by the way it speaking about money and
all that, I was, I was noticing something. I wasn't
gonna say anything. I know, Mary it was, it wasn't
that big of a deal, but Jeff Schwartz went ahead
and tweeted it out. Uh, they're pretty more. Are they
putting more commercials in these college games or what? It
seems like it lasts so much longer. They're putting like
an extra minute to a minute and a half to
(20:26):
get more advertising money.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
It was I see. I worked with Jeff Allway class
week and he brought that up on the on the
Thursday night games, and I didn't notice it at first,
But then on the Saturday games, I felt like I didn't.
I sat and watched from sun up to sun down
on Saturday, so I watched a lot. I felt like
it was across the board. Do you know, do you
(20:51):
know when they made all those changes to the time
into the clock, do you know what they ended up
saving as far as minutes in a game and by bye.
I guess I should be very clear changes. Last year
they had the clock keep rolling until under two minutes
for first downs, right they out of bounds. They started
(21:11):
the clock faster because they used to stop it, and
they set the ball and you'd have more no college made.
All these changes aren'tie to speed up the game. And
you know how much time it saved overall across the
board per game twelve minutes.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Four okay, so nothing at all.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Four dude, four whole minutes. So I felt like they
were trying to make up for it with all the
extra long commercial breaks. I was at a game on
Friday night and it just the commercial breaks, like can
we go? They're three minutes now, and they used to
be I think two and a half. They're three minutes now.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Okay, so literally outed thirty seconds then, But that adds.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
Up per break. I mean, if you're saving four minutes
a game, right you're saving four you sure are making
up with it with those extra timeouts and man, by
the way things. If I wasn't clear what was blocked,
Direct TV lost, ESPN, and ABC, Disney's on there, I
think hard a sacred joking free form is gone. I
(22:07):
got knocked off. You can't watch that. I think FX
for some reason was I guess part of that entity.
I thought that was always Fox, but I had those
taken off as well too. Regardless, I feel bad for
those of you who weren't able to watch the game
tonight because I think, Arennie in the end, you missed
a thriller.
Speaker 7 (22:26):
Right.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
But when you were saying, this doesn't change the way
you feel about USC going forward, you still see him
as what couple loss team? Three loss team?
Speaker 2 (22:34):
And yeah, yeah, I mean no, I mean they're still
in the upper half of the Big Ten. Though, don't
get me wrong on that. They're probably gonna be still
a top three or four team. But this is where
we thought they were going to be at the beginning
of the year. I just didn't know that their defense
was this strong. Maybe they're a little bit better than
we thought in the Big Ten. I'm just looking forward
to it because of that schedule. There's so many great
games now, Chris, forget about that pack Pac twelve schedule
(22:57):
where you're just bored the tiers when it's like, oh,
they got staff now, or Washington State or some other
meeting Oregon State or some other meetingless team.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
You don't want to watch out there. Now, all the
games feel good.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
Now, I think he's a big win tonight. I'm here.
I'm not here to be answered to picnic or anything
of that nature. But you are turning around and you're
playing against Michigan in ann Arbor in two weeks. You
then have to host Wisconsin, who I thought Wisconsin looked
pretty good. You got a road trip coming up to
UCLA later in the season, and oh, by the way,
(23:29):
Penn State is coming out to Los Angeles on October twelfth,
and I thought they looked very good. This is a
great win. I'm not ready to say USC is a
playoff contender, but as far as the most impressive wins
in Week one, this goes up there with Georgia and Miami, right,
Oh absolutely.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
I mean if you took the top three or four wins,
USC is now going to be up there. LSU obviously
four and a half point favorite. This was a great
win by USC.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
All right, when we come back to the tyrack dot
com studios, let's dive into the Roman numeral rundown. Any
moment we could be hearing from one of the stars
of the game from the USC Trojans. We got boots
on the ground. Patrick is working with our stringer out
in Las Vegas, and hopefully we'll hear from a very
excited and very happy USC Trojan coming up here in
(24:19):
mere moments. But in the meantime, let's get all the
details of what went down tonight. Steve Sager is in
the house, putting a cap on a great weekend for
college football.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
Still another game to go, we do, but it's Boston
College at Florida State. So I think tonight was the
highest of the heights, and you mentioned the including a
USC win. Still getting used to that, the Big Tens.
Great weekend to open things up. Yard Barker points out
that there was only one conference this weekend that went undefeated.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
That was the Pac twelve.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
Douse that they have victories from Oregons and State.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
Yea to it.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
So there and getting ahead of things. One of the
big games, it's the late game Saturday night next weekend.
See State could be a playoff team this year and
they're playing at Oregon and that is not on any channel,
it is streaming only. And Boise State has a running
back that could be a first round NFL pick next
year if you saw him yesterday. Ashton genty had six
(25:15):
touchdown runs.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Yesterday.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
He had almost two thousand total yards last year and
almost twenty tds. He's just something to see because he's
five to nine. But they said on the broadcast yesterday
he led the nation in yards after contact. He's five nine,
two fifteen and yesterday on only twenty carries at Georgia
Southern two hundred and sixty seven yards and the six touchdowns,
(25:40):
and in fact, in this stadium in Vegas. Last year
he won his conference championship with over one hundred and
fifty yards rushing on only about twenty carries, and he
had a two hundred yard game at San Diego State
and a two hundred yard game at Colorado State. Really
want to see that guy in the playoff. We'll see
if we can even see him play next weekend story again.
(26:01):
And by the way, Disney has removed all of its
channels from DirecTV in a carriage dispute. ESPN's statement tonight says,
we will not enter into an agreement that undervalues our
portfolio of television channels and programs. My instant question is
you knew the contract ended September first, when you made
the previous contract, and you know in the sports year,
(26:23):
what's going on. This is the final week of the
US Open on those channels, with the finals next weekend.
This is the Monday night football opener in about a week.
This is the first weekend of college football. And by
the way, the contract ended September first, which means it
ended this morning. They waited till fifteen minutes before kickoff
tonight to darken the CHANNELSZ blackedout USC the winner in
(26:46):
Las Vegas over LSU twenty seven to twenty.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
It was a good game.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
I'm sorry if you missed it, genuinely on a touchdown
run with eight seconds left. Miller Moss had three hundred
and seventy eight yards passing and a touchdown. And news
about forty nine ers first round wide receiver Ricky Piersoll,
who played with Florida Gators last year. He's out of
the hospital after being shot yesterday in a robbery attempt
in San Francisco. It was called an attempted theft of
(27:12):
a watch, and the teenager who shot him was arrested.
Piersoll not only played at Florida, played at Arizona State
before that. He's from Phoenix. His mom says the bullet
entered his chest yesterday and exited out his back stunningly.
He was able to walk to the ambulance and is
out of the hospital today. That is genuinely amazing. Scottie
(27:33):
Scheffler won the PGA's Tour Championship. Coco goff lost her
fourth round match at the US Open tonight. On the
men's side. Francis Tiaffo of the US advance in the WNBA.
Las Vegas won at Phoenix. Asia Wilson forty one point
seventeen rebounds. Caitlin Clark had twenty eight points as Indiana
won at Dallas. NASCAR tonight finished its regular season the
(27:54):
winner of the Southern five hundred Chase Briscoe, so he
earns the final playoff spot. Kyle Busch finished second and
misses the playoffs to Major League Baseball. Philadelphia in eleven
innings beat Atlanta three to two. The Mets won again
two nothing at the White Sox. The Braves are only
one game up on the Mets for the final NL
(28:14):
wild card.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Spot to play the White Sox the rest of the year.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
Every team wishes they could play the White Sox every day.
The White Sox just finished a ten game homestand and
they lost all ten, the first zero to ten homestand
in White Sox history, and they've had quite a long history.
But this is not their first ten game losing streak
this year, it's their third. Wow And since the All
Star break, the White Sox record is four and thirty six.
(28:40):
They've won four out of forty game. That's like Columbia
football years ago. We've still got a month left in
this season, not so mercifully for them.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
Back to you, crazy, I thinks a lot, Steve, Now,
where's uh? Whereas we just watched USC get a big
win in its opener over LSU, we are patiently waiting
the potential of one of the USC stars to join
his laugh from Vegas. Todd Furman was front and center.
So he's going to join us coming up here in
about oh what a little less than an hour from now.
(29:09):
But arn'tie, I really did. With my excitement over having
a good college football game on and seeing it come
down to the wire, I did bury the lead. Happy anniversary,
Oh thank you very well, it's next week.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
I actually oh oh oh okay, my number twenty nine,
So it works out of my favor. That's not an
important one, so I really don't have to buy or anything.
It's number thirty that's the big ones.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
I don't know why, don'd you? How do you do this?
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Like?
Speaker 1 (29:33):
Is this in act? Because if I don't get my
wife something nice for our anniversary, I am in big trouble.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
But twenty nine is in a special year. The thirty
is like pearl or it's still kind of amazing twine years.
The twenty nine years may be the dollar menu. I
think I'll have to double check that.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
I'm not sure.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Wow, I don't believe you at all.
Speaker 7 (29:54):
Now.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
What I will say that twenty nine is oppressive. And
what was even more impressive is seeing bath get up
on skis.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
On your my wife in sixty and she's water skiing
with one end and they wanted me to do it.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
I'm like, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
The water's too cold for me. I'm not getting into
that thing.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
Sixty is the new thirty. And then number two, what
is your brother in law do? Holy smokes man, that
big old boat. He got it.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
But I told you he's the one that used to
own the islanders. Remember, well, did the guy that owned
the islanders did it? All and plowed around him. Wasn't
he part of that guy? Yeah, that he died.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
He and that guy died, but he was part owner
of the Islanders.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
Well, so he wasn't the one that was part of
the ponzi.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
He's not the one that died and was part of
the ponzi scheme.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
That was, well, did you guys have a good time?
Speaker 3 (30:40):
It was a good time. But fancy yachts, you know,
it's funny.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
One thing was we were going out there there was
this big old yacht you can't even call it a boat,
and it was from Tucson, Arizona. The picture of the
bear on bear it out, and I had my hat
on yelling bear it out.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
Guy.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
I thought I was nuts or something. I don't think he.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
Realized that I was saying he shouldn't have tenor roll.
McMillan's pretty good a football, dude.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
That's unbelievable. He's gonna be Yeah, he's a first round pick.
Speaker 7 (31:06):
We I was.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
I've split feelings on how Arizona did against New Mexico,
but yeah, wait, well just thirty nine points not acceptable defensively,
Obviously we'll get better. This sixty one was tremendous. For
Feita was great through for four yards. McMillan, I mean
he's a first round pick. Arizona's got four or three
or four first round picks are kicker, no bs. This
(31:30):
guy's like the best kicker I've ever seen in my life.
He's better than some NFL kickers. He's I've never seen
a legot. I think he can kick from like sixty
five to seventy.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
Yeah, he's He's insane, Chris, he really is insane.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
I oh, I was watching, I was I did Bernie
Show last night. I watched the whole when you fell
asleep and gave up awake with it.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Three points at halftime, and I'm looking at all the
tweets coming in.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
I'm like, I'm not answering anybody. I'm very nervous.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
We were down by seven in the first half, but
thank goodness, they turned it around and offensively we just
looked good. I just thirty nine points way too much
for New Mexico, but give them credit.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
They look good.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Also yesterday they fought hard. They fought hard. Well, let's
start diving into the Roman numeral number two Rnie before
we grab a break and hopefully get more reaction from
Vegas coming up. Anyone really surprised you? Who looked good?
Who surprised you?
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Penn State surprised me. Look at if they were going
to win.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
I didn't think they were gonna win that easily, especially
in a hostile environment like West Virginia. That place was
just rocking. At least it was rocking in the first half,
absolutely crazy. The pregame was crazy out there. West Virginia
did a good job early, but Penn State many it's
not your dad's Penn State.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
They could move the ball. They did. They put up
thirty four points. They looked good.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
I was surprised when they said if there was a
twelve team playoff like the last twelve years or something,
pens they would have made it six of those years
on the value team.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
They looked really good. Surprised that they looked this good.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
To be honest with you, I will say tonight would
fall under the category of a team that surprised me.
I thought USC would win the game. I didn't know
it would be a defensive struggle like that. I thought
this might be like a forty five forty two kind
of a game. Both teams have new defensive coordinators this season.
Both teams were outstanding on that front. I gotta be
(33:30):
honest with Yarnie. The inability of Clemson to do anything
against Georgia surprised me. But I also still think Georgia
is I guess to pardon a pardon the pun a
phrase the kids use. Georgia is just that, dude. I
think they're gonna be a lot of teams like that
this year. But it's time of Clemson was Georgia four
(33:52):
years ago? All right? Clemson was Trevor Lawrence, DeShawn Watson.
I mean, we played the cut from Booker McFarlane last
night and he's like Clempson doesn't have the playmakers like
Sammy Watkins and DeAndre Hopkins, like bro. That was eleven
years ago when they were in college. You don't have
to go back that far. You can talk about t Higgins,
you can talk about some of the other more recent
running backs and receivers and quarterbacks that they've had. I
(34:15):
just I was shocked at how Georgia made Clemson look
so and app well.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
And I'm gonna give you, if you're Davos Sweety, I'm
gonna give you three choices. You're either gonna go ahead
and go to the portal and get transfers like you
don't want to do, or you can get fired, or
you can retire. Those are gonna be your three choices.
Don't make me fir. You're probably gonna make me fire you.
So I could give you a big buyout, but you're
not gonna be around much longer if you're not gonna
(34:40):
go ahead and get better players. And obviously they don't
like to go to a portal. That's old time thinking, Chris.
He better get with the times because the fans are
not happy with this guy, all right, when.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
We come back. More from USC's twenty seven to twenty
win over LSU, More from the Week one of college football,
and guess what. Guess what we got what NFL? Starting
Thursday night, we'll talk about it right here on Fox
Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk
lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at
(35:12):
foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search
FSR to listen live. I was really disappointed, Arnie in
the Roman numeral rundown. I mean you and I are
big college guys. I mean everyone calls you mister college football.
I am mister college football. I am mister college. There
wasn't a lot of NFL on the rundown tonight.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
I don't know if you know this is in the
NFL didn't start this weekend.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
But it starts this week. By the time we hit
the air next Sunday night, week one will essentially be
in the book. And you don't want to get into it.
Well I do.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
But I thought we were gonna go ahead and talk
a lot of college football tonight. I thought you were.
I think, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
I think what's happening. You're worried about your dolphins. That's
what's going on here.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
I feel, you know what, I feel better than ever
now about my Wildcats, my Dolphins. I was actually just
going to send a text or a tweet to the
bosses asking for time off to go to the parade
for my Wildcats and for my Dolphins.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
When it's over every single year.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
No, it's not every No, that's not. First of all,
that's not true. This is the first time you can
get twelve teams into the playoffs, so that's pretty much
a guarantee for Arizona.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Are you gonna win the Big twelve?
Speaker 7 (36:28):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (36:28):
Easily.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
I saw that Boloney, Kansas State team you were telling
me to be worried about. They were struggling against some
creampuff early.
Speaker 1 (36:35):
You guys were struggling against New Mexico.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
No, New Mexico is a good team.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
And like I said, we're playing in a conference down
going from the PAC twelve to what are we playing
in the Big Sky? Now?
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Yeah? Yeah, good luck with that. To a couple now
quick tweets here, Paul writes, maybe I'm just becoming an
old man yelling at clouds, but I had trouble getting
into this weekend's game. Every college football game to matter. Now.
If LSU or USC loses, oh well they can lose
another game and be fine.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
No, no, it's better like this.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
You don't want one loss and you're done, especially at
the beginning of the year. This makes it better. You
could have a two and a three loss team in
this thing and you're not completely out of it. It's
more teams get involved and get to make the playoff. No,
this is this is better than ever.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
I'm are already.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
I'm not kidding around not.
Speaker 2 (37:25):
To make this an Arizona thing, but I'm looking at
the who's ranked where, and I know we don't have
the rankings for another what five or six weeks, But
I'm like, okay, they should be able to drop down.
We're gonna be higher, you know, I'm already kind of
setting it up for when the first rankings come out.
Who's gonna be in that top twelve? You want to
be setting up a position for that, right And it's.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
Usually at least my and my feeling is that the
playoff rankings are usually fairly close to the AP and
the coaches rankings. There's always a few differences, but right
like this week, I mean, is LSU gonna pay a
big price? I don't losing the.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
USC, Oh No, I don't think they'll pay a big
price for that.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
How high is us and Miami gonna jump? My USC
was twenty third in the preseason pol Miami was nineteen.
Like I kind of feel like Miami might find themselves
jumping up as high as like thirteenth, even though Floridia
was unranked and they weren't even in the also receiving
votes category.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
I was gonna say, us C is gonna be like
a top fifteen team if they were doing rankings every
week right now?
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Well, they are doing rankings every week right now. It's
just it's the AP and the coaches pool right top fifteen. Yeah,
you think Oregon's gonna drop? That was embarrassing. It was
so embarrassing. Again, I like Jeff Schwartz. I was gonna
demand that he gets fired just because he went to Oregon.
That was that was horrible.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
Anybody that roots for Oregon or went to Oregon, you
should be fired immediately.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
How bad was that?
Speaker 2 (38:50):
They're number three in the country. People were picking then
the win the national championship and they're struggling like that.
Oh oh my goodness. Man, I wouldn't even have showed
up to work if that was my team today.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
Yeah, maybe they still won the game. I mean again,
if you want me to be literal Chris here, and
they still won the game. Idaho's not good. Oregon's got
Boise State. Actually, Boise State struggled to finally put away
Georgia Southern in that game the other night. I don't
know about you, but you're gonna have bad games, and
if you still win your bad games, that's I still
(39:24):
have TV credit. Michigan didn't look all that great.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
No, Michigan didn't look good at all.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
It was sixteen ten at one point in the fourth
quarter after friend would scored a touchdown, Michigan came back
and scored with like five or six minutes left. But
that was anybody's game in sixteen ten. They were not
in present until they pulled away. Then they got another
couple of eight touchdowns and it looked.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
Like it was a blowout.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
Yeah, I just I'm I love the knee jerk. I'm
embracing the knee jerk. It's what we get to do
during the NFL season here as we are the first
show to recap Sunday Night football and all the games
here on Fox Sports Radio. But I also am trying
to put it into a little bit of contact. If
you were just a base it off what you saw
in Week one, Arnie, you would probably elevate Ole Miss
(40:05):
to number one. Oh they scored outside of Georgia, right,
Georgia b Clemson Tennessee.
Speaker 3 (40:09):
He looked pretty good too, right.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
And who did Tennessee beat Chattanooga in Chattanooga in high school? Right?
So they did with theirs. But Michigan played Fresno State,
Fresno State. It's a competitive football Sea, they are right,
they're always pretty good. Notre Dame beat What I think
is going to be a competitive Texas A and M team.
So those wins, even what USC did tonight, old what
team you didn't bring up? And I know you don't
(40:32):
want to bring them up with you hate when they
do well. But they look really good, Chris, who's that Texas? Oh,
Texas looked good. They get it. They played Colorado City State,
not a very good football but that's still though.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
Fifty two nothing.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
Yeah, I mean still fifty two zip against the bad
football team. They did what you were supposed to do.
They got Michigan. Next week should be fun. I loved
what I saw though from the powers that the true
powers of college football last week. All right, when we
come back, who's in in twenty twenty four? That's next
on Fox Sports Radio. Dies what a game to recapch
(41:09):
tonight with Arnie and playing on Fox Sports Radio. We're
coming you live from the tire rack dot Com studios.
Tire rack dot com will help you get there an
unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road hazard protection in
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack dot Com the
way tire buying should be. It's a busy hour for us.
Todd Furman is coming up here. In mere moments to
(41:30):
Sega is going to take us all around the weekend.
It was in college football, and we just got a
great game tonight, Arnie, this is what you'll love to
have in a standalone game. You didn't have anything else
going on today as far he had a couple college
football games at the FCS level, a couple HBCU games.
But to have this as one of the penultimate moments
at the college football weekend and have this game play
(41:52):
out like it did, that's pretty awesome.
Speaker 2 (41:54):
And I love it that the USC arch should be
the LSU fans even though they had to get out
a fly to obviously fly with three four hours, they
were what sixty seventy percent of the crowd USC fans.
All they had to do was drive the four hours.
But the LSU fans has showed up in droves. They
had a good time out there in Vegas.
Speaker 1 (42:12):
Yeah, and the USC fans are pretty awesome too. Joining
us right now is one of the stars for the
Trojans tonight. Kyron Hudson had a big night five catches
eighty three yards in USC's twenty seven to twenty win
over LSU. Kyra Man, congratulations just kind of take us
through the no quit, never say die attitude of this
team tonight. Even when you fell behind, this team never
(42:32):
gave up, did They.
Speaker 7 (42:33):
Definitely just just responding to adversity and things that didn't
come our way. And so just super proud for this team.
And we worked so hard man this offseason, so everything's
just coming to playing, coming coming here, He's coming to play.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
You know, talk about a little bit about your quarterback,
Miller Moss, because obviously he had the replace, he had
some big shoes to replace. How tough was it for
him to you know, get a hold of everybody in
the locker room, let him know this is my team,
and you know, and just take things over Uller.
Speaker 7 (43:03):
Miller's been been waiting for his moment and his here now.
So super excited for him. He's been waiting, he's been ready,
and so he just he's using this opportunity and I'm
super super proud of him and how the hard work
he put in.
Speaker 1 (43:15):
Kyrine. It'll be number one on sports sooner. It's one
of the greatest catches I've ever seen. Take me through
And what were you seeing? What was the focus like?
Take me through that one handed snag? That really said
an early tone.
Speaker 7 (43:27):
I just I saw a ball in the air and
I needed to make a play. So just just thankful
for my teammates and Miller for putting the ball in
the right spot and for me to just finish it.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Yeah, but do you practice that all the time? Was
that just one lucky catch?
Speaker 7 (43:42):
Come on? Now, that's funny? I think yes and no.
I think it's more of a reaction thing than anything.
But yeah, I'll say as a receiver court, we do
just mess around and see who has the best one handers.
So I think those do come into play.
Speaker 1 (43:59):
Well, I got tell you something, Martie. He might have
one of the best receiver coaches in the game. Dennis
Simmons has coached Blitnikoff Award winners, Heisman Trophy finalist. Can
you take us through what it's been like to have
Dinnis Simmons from day one, since you stepped on campus
in that room, he's been here.
Speaker 7 (44:17):
He knows the ins and out of football, and he's
he's just more than a coach. He's just he's there
for us through anything that we need. And so yeah,
I mean he's prepared us, he gets us ready every
single week, and we trust them and he trusted us.
Speaker 2 (44:33):
You have to give a shout out for your defense
because it's been over a couple of years for that defense.
Speaker 3 (44:38):
That look who showed up today. I didn't know, didn't
know you had such a good defense.
Speaker 7 (44:44):
Shoot defense won championships. And so they worked so hard
and they prepared for this week, and like I said,
this is just week one. They're ready for the next week.
They're going to enjoy this twelve hours of happiness, but
ready to technic week.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
Hey, Kirin, I'm glad you said that. Final thought. Can
you take us through now the mindset going forward? Unique schedule,
playing on a Sunday, but you turn around and it's
a whole new world. It's opponent you haven't seen in
State Michigan. What can a night like this do to
really help elevate this team to another level in such
a unique year.
Speaker 7 (45:18):
Like I said before, this is game one, this is good,
good energy momentum for the season. So we're just super
excited for uh for what happened in the outcome, but
we're ready for next week and so exactly by week one.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
More question, your coach. Your coach has been taking a
lot of flack for the for the last year or so.
What is his attitude like coming into this Is he
starting to feel it or is he is he able
to put it behind them?
Speaker 7 (45:44):
Our coach is uh, coach Lincoln is gonna do coach
linking of things and he's chrudged this team just like
we try to saim and so just super much outing
as our coach.
Speaker 1 (45:54):
Great job tonight, man, Congrats on the win. I can't
I can't imagine what your family is going to be like.
Watch that highlight over and over and over. It's got
to be a blast. Great win man, Best of luck
the rest of the year.
Speaker 7 (46:04):
Appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (46:05):
Good Kyen Hudson. Kyen Hudson, why are you asking about
all his coaches getting fired? What do you do?
Speaker 2 (46:13):
Because you know he's on the hot seat a little
bit Lincoln Riley coming into this season. Look, I just
wanted to see what he had to say to that,
you know, just like, hey, you know he's been feeling
the pressure.
Speaker 3 (46:23):
We've got his back. I don't know, I just wanted
to see what he had to say about that.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
He didn't really say that, but he did say Lincoln's
gonna do what Lincoln does, and I think you have
his back by going out and winning the way that
usced DI tonight twenty seven to twenty. That was damn good. Question.
Speaker 3 (46:36):
By the way, that does damn good.
Speaker 1 (46:37):
I leave it to patch yourself in the back. It's
something you never really do too terrible. Yeah, so I
was aat of a catch though. That was a heck
of a catch. It's one of the best. I think
I saw two or three catches this weekend where I
thought to myself, that's one of the best catches I've
ever seen.
Speaker 3 (46:52):
Probably, I was gonna say, probably not a good time
for me to bring it up with him on the phone.
But are we sure that he caught that. I'd like
to see you out again A little slow most you
make sure that didn't well.
Speaker 1 (47:03):
Being replayed like crazy right now sports centers.
Speaker 3 (47:06):
Probably not a good time for me to bring that up.
Speaker 1 (47:08):
Just why why do you think it wouldn't be a
good time you asked him about his coach being on
a hot seat. I mean, come on, oh stop it.
Does it change your opinion is a question for me tonight.
Does it change your opinion of USC or LSU going forward?
Speaker 3 (47:22):
It doesn't really look I thought LSU could have won
the game.
Speaker 2 (47:26):
They had some mistakes and like I said, the personal
foul penalties and as you said, how many did they
have overall, Chris, you said nine nine? Actually, you know,
I think it was ten. The last one was ten,
I think, And it was like each one was like
a dagger two. I don't know all ten, you know,
off the top of my head, but it was like
some of them were just really killers. They're also obviously
(47:49):
they'll have to cut that down. I thought they'd be
in the thick of things when it came down to
the twelve team playoffs, and I still think they will.
But I didn't know if USC's defense was going to
be like they were the last couple of years, and
now that they're not, USC will have, you know, a
pretty good chance of making that twelve team playoff. Now
(48:11):
what is the Obviously, let's see what they do in
the big ten and how that works out. That's they
got the what Utah State next? And then they got
what Michigan?
Speaker 1 (48:18):
Right, that's right, that's right. Uh. It was ten, ten
penalties for ninety nine yards for USC. And you felt,
and I don't, like you said, we didn't go and
manually run through every single one of them. It seemed
like number one, all of them were damning, and it
seemed like number two half of them were just ridiculous
personal fouls. Now, neither you and I are big fans
(48:39):
of the rule and the way it is right as
far as targeting is concerned. But by the letter of
the law, by that kind of perspective and that angle,
it's targeting. Unfortunately, it's targeting. It's Julian Wright's artiest correct.
When you're making twenty MILLI year, you're on the high seat.
(49:00):
Lincoln Riley's making twenty million dollars a year, is well.
Speaker 3 (49:04):
He's probably rounding that up.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
I didn't know he was making that much of it, Julian,
I think you're doubling what Lincoln Lelly is making per season.
Speaker 2 (49:11):
But he was coming into this one they lost to
alas Shoe. It would have Alad gotten worse for him
back at the US.
Speaker 1 (49:16):
Hey, I'm not questioning whether or not he's in the
hot seat. I'm just I mean, the dude just had
a spectacular game. He had five catches for eighty three yards.
USC when did twenty seven to twenty and Arnie's like,
what's up with your coach being on the hot seat? Like,
what's is he feeling it? I thought it was a question.
Speaker 2 (49:33):
I thought that was a good question. And by the way,
I want you to know the I was my I
was texting with my niece. She has four tickets. She
goes to Wisconsin for the Wisconsin Alabama game, and she's like,
I can get like four hundred dollars, apiece.
Speaker 3 (49:46):
I'm like, how much did they cost you? She's at
two hundred. I go, no, you should be able to
get a lot more money than that.
Speaker 2 (49:52):
Man four hundred hours. I go, those guys are rich
down there in Alabama. Don't let them get away with
four hundred dollars. But they should go to the game.
That's gonna be a good one.
Speaker 1 (49:59):
That's if you could make that kind of money on
tickets or live in the moment and be it. Would
you sell them to make the money or would you
be in the moment and go to the game.
Speaker 3 (50:10):
I'd go to the game. I told them to go
to the game.
Speaker 1 (50:13):
Yeah you got to. Now things go sideways. You'll be
kicking yourself and wishing you had that money in your
back pocket. But I mean, my if I was in
that situation, we kind of were in that situation. With
some tickets a while back, and it's like, now, just
let's let's go to the game. Why not? Sure we can.
It was a concert. You make a lot of money
selling these tickets. Let's go to the concert and enjoy it.
(50:34):
What why get the tickets just to sell them? Gotta
go enjoy it. Colin writes, give Arnie some credit. He
starts every football season full of belief, in a positive attitude.
It just ultimately turns into a train wreck and we
all get to enjoy the ride. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (50:48):
I wasn't gonna show up, but it was halftime in Arizona,
was only up by three. I told my wife, I'm
not going into work Sunday if they lose.
Speaker 3 (50:56):
I can't. I can't do it.
Speaker 7 (50:58):
I go.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
It's just too tough on it. This was going to
be the thank goodness they pulled away. I was really
just going through little anxiety. They were really moving the
ball against US. I really couldn't take it much longer.
Speaker 1 (51:09):
Well, I'll tell you what I thought. In New Mexico's offense,
it was one of those offenses that you don't want
anything to do with.
Speaker 2 (51:15):
Right.
Speaker 3 (51:16):
Your quarterback was really good.
Speaker 1 (51:17):
I like him.
Speaker 3 (51:18):
I saw him in the Montana Steak game.
Speaker 1 (51:20):
He's going to be fun to follow throughout the season.
I think you're gonna get a lot of those late
games with New Mexico. But I'll tell you what, your
team's going to be fun to watch this year. I
think that I like your coach. Even though boy, they
wore the lays the whole game, didn't they. I was,
I mean, it's a tip of the cap of respect,
(51:42):
and I'm here for it. And I have all the
respect in the world for the Polynesian community and everyone
that that is a symbol of respect and love. But
my man was able to coach no problem with that
lay around his neck all game long. I was like, Brendan,
if you go coach getting that thing done, he's going
to get a few recruits as far as that is concerned.
I do think we set the stage though, to really understand, Hey,
(52:03):
your day is gonna be set with really good matchups
and the sec ACC and the Big ten, and then
already that PAC twelve after dark. I'm gonna be counting,
I think on your Wildcats. I think we're gonna be
counting quite a bit on like Utah Uh, maybe even
a little Boise State. We're gonna need someone to kind
of step up and pick up the slack from that.
PAC twelve after dark for those of us who have
(52:24):
insamni and stay up late. I'm kind of counting on
your Wildcats to be that for me.
Speaker 2 (52:27):
I was gonna say, you know, as I was watching
the Arizona game, I'm like, what other games are going on?
Speaker 3 (52:31):
Those only like three other games. Usually there's a little
bit more.
Speaker 2 (52:34):
I know Arizona was the late game, but you're right,
No Pack twelve after dark, so you're gonna get the
only ones. But I'm happy for it because it was
so late, you know, staying up to ten thirty, the
Arizona game, the Fincial two thirty in the morning.
Speaker 3 (52:46):
I was exhausted that and so much going on today,
So wait, what do you have going on?
Speaker 1 (52:52):
I had nothing.
Speaker 3 (52:53):
I had to go to Costco.
Speaker 1 (52:57):
The other was going on. I was bored.
Speaker 2 (52:58):
I was bored to tea today. I didn't know what
to do with myself. I would sit around. There was nothing.
There was no sports for me to watch. I'm like,
there's no football. I go, you can't give me football
and now take it away on a Sunday after making
me watch it all day Saturday. Now I got nothing
until seven thirty Easter.
Speaker 1 (53:15):
I go, that's not right.
Speaker 3 (53:16):
You gotta give me something else.
Speaker 1 (53:18):
I saw a few people complaining about that today. Yeah,
and I hear it. I understand it. But then everyone
will get mad and say we need to give FCS
and HBCUs more of these windows. And they were on
in those windows and everybody was bitching and moaning about
no college football on. I'm like, well, you know, you've
(53:38):
got like you even had a high school game. I
think to the NFL network out on like you had
games but it wasn't bangers. And everybody wants to act
like they care about everybody getting equal part of the coverage,
but you really don't. At the end. You want to
watch Wisconsin Alabama, You want to watch Texas Michigan. You
want to watch LSU USC Oh, I've got a game
(53:59):
today where I can watch I don't know Howard and
Jackson State.
Speaker 3 (54:02):
No, No, you can no, I'd rather go to Costco.
I told you I'll go to Costco.
Speaker 2 (54:07):
Fine, but don't ask me after this weekend because I'm
not going anymore.
Speaker 1 (54:12):
Ahead news. By the way, Patrick says that Brian Kelly's
going off in his postgame Prescott.
Speaker 3 (54:17):
Yeah, he somebody said that he was dropping he or
dropped the S bomb.
Speaker 1 (54:22):
WHOA. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (54:23):
Yeah, that's not a big deal. But I don't know
what Elsie said or what could have been said. Obviously,
I told you he had veins sticking out of his
neck right after USC he got the touchdown with eight
seconds left. Obviously that upset him. But the way they
did it, I think he was just going to lose it.
I don't know what was said at the press conference,
So we'll have to We'll have to get some of
that audio because it sounds like it's crazy.
Speaker 1 (54:45):
I've got it. I'm afraid to play it because I
don't know if he cuts his he slams his fist
down on the table, he's a yes word, I know that,
Oh he does. Yeah, I'll send it to you Patrick
and you. I don't know what the what the guys
have got so far are in the FSR AL much
set audio room? Is it truly an audio room editing bay?
(55:08):
But I'll shoot it and you decide whether or not
we can play this here Fox Sports Radio. Shoot it
in you're a.
Speaker 2 (55:13):
Shouldn't we allowed to be able to play the s
word or do that still, we cannot play the S word.
Speaker 1 (55:18):
However, we do feature well all that happens. We do
have a we do have a dumb button, but we
do have the tools to scrub or bleep it out. Okay,
well I sent it to you on your email. You
and Mary give it a listen and see if it's
something that we can safely play. Arnie, we got into
(55:38):
teams that caught our eye. We got into teams that
have impressed us in our number one. If you missed it,
as always, you can find it on the podcast page.
Go to Fox sports radio dot com as soon as
this show wraps up, or search Fox Sports Radio however
you consume podcasts. All right, who who concerned you? Who
did you come away from this week? And we're like,
oh no, they might be in big trouble this year.
(56:01):
Well we met, Well, Clemson's the first one. It's just
gonna be a bad year. It's only gonna get worse
for Dabbo. And like I said, he's gonna have to
start looking at the transfer portal. But Chris, it may
be too late after this year. There might be some
bad blood. He may want to leave, he may want
to retire they may want him gone, depending on how
(56:23):
bad things can get.
Speaker 2 (56:24):
You know, Clemson, like you said, what was it like
four years ago, they were in Georgia situation four or
five years ago. Now look at them. It has gotten
real ugly. They lose thirty four to three, and they
were really not even close. Yeah it was six six
and one board six three at one point. But they're
not on the same level as Georgia. Not very many
(56:44):
teams are.
Speaker 3 (56:45):
But I don't think it's gonna be a great year
for Clemson.
Speaker 2 (56:47):
I think he's gonna be on the hot seat and
it's really gonna take its toll on him. I'll tell
you one thing though, It's It's just stubbornness, is what
it is. I've been return for portals.
Speaker 1 (57:00):
What you're saying, right right, He subnus with a transfer portal,
stubbornness with not bringing guys in from the transfer portal,
and the meme treatment that he's getting.
Speaker 3 (57:10):
He doesn't have one transfer on the team, just one.
Speaker 1 (57:13):
I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (57:14):
Geez.
Speaker 1 (57:15):
Now he might from guys that came in earlier. Here's
the bigger problem. And I know we got a break,
and I know Todd Furman is coming up next, but
his bigger He hasn't been able to replace his assistance
and his coordinators. Right, things have gone way south since
coach Vinables came here to Oklahoma, right and Britain. Vinibles
didn't come by himself. He brought the best recruiter on
(57:36):
that staff and Todd Bates, who was crushing it with
interior defensive lineman here at Oklahoma, and a bride up
and coming coach in Miguel Chaves. I think they did
a pretty good job of trying to replace Tony Elliott
when he left for Virginia, and Jeff Scott when he'd
left for USF and Chad Morris whatever he left. But
Garrett Riley Lardy doesn't seem like he's his big brother.
Garrett Riley doesn't seem like he's got that same jews.
(57:58):
So he's got to do a better job replacing coaches
too quick.
Speaker 2 (58:01):
Question, by the way, is a recruiting coach still important nowadays?
Speaker 3 (58:05):
I thought that coach Benjamin is the most important.
Speaker 1 (58:08):
No, it's it's still important.
Speaker 3 (58:09):
It's not the Benjamins. It's not the benjamins.
Speaker 1 (58:11):
You need the Benjamins, but you still got to be
able to sell them that you're the place to be,
all right, We'll see if we can give you a
little crazy Brian Kelly when we come back. A lot
of good stuff as well, and the tweets that have
been coming in at Stinking Genius Swan at Plank Show
and everybody go follow us at Fox Sports Radio. All Right,
it's Arnie in Plank on a Fox Sport Sunday Final
(58:32):
Sunday without the NFL. But what a college game. And
our next guest was there, Todd Furman. It joins us
bet the Board podcast at Todd Furman on Twitter. Boy,
it seemed like a great atmosphere, Todd, what was it
like inside Allegiant Stadium?
Speaker 8 (58:46):
It almost felt, for certain stretches like an LSU home game,
But USC fans turned out just not quite in the
same volume as LSU fans did, and it had the
atmosphere that you'd expect from two teams that have big
expectations this upcoming season. Didn't feel like a season opener
by any stretch, but that's what this city was built for,
those marquee events, and I did not disappoint with great
(59:06):
quarterback performances on both sides of Miller Moss making the
clutch throws and Garrettnusmeyer looking like he'll be the next
elite quarterback to come through.
Speaker 1 (59:13):
The Byue Todd.
Speaker 3 (59:15):
Was it a favorite weekend in Week one in college football?
Speaker 1 (59:18):
Or what well it was if you.
Speaker 8 (59:20):
Were getting involved in the FCS versus FBS games. At
last count FBS teams that were favored in those matchups
sixty one to oh Arnie, So you didn't have any
of the FCS upsets there like we've seen in the past.
One of the closer ones, of course, happened in Chris's
old neck of the Woods, with Texas Tech outlasting Abilene
Christian as a five touchdown favorite in that game. But
(59:41):
when you look across the board, the books probably didn't
fare all that well with some of the marquee games,
although I'm sure today's decision with the game coming in
under and the underdog getting home, but the public firmly
in support of Miami on the road at Florida. They
definitely backed Georgia in their game against Clemson, but the
sportsbooks were able to get some back. Was real tough
for them to get a whole lot of action on
(01:00:03):
the Irish, but they were more than happy with Marcus
Freeman and company going on the road to Kyle Field
and winning that game out right as a three point dog.
Speaker 1 (01:00:09):
How impressed were you with Miller Moss?
Speaker 8 (01:00:12):
You know what, I came into this wanting to treat
the Bowl game like an outlier. But he made all
the big throws, kept the team on schedule, and it's
going to look a little bit different than the improvisation,
the athleticism that USC fans were accustomed to with Caleb Williams,
but checked a lot of boxes for me. Zacharia Branch
as electric as you'd imagine every time they get his
hands on the ball. And the one thing that stood
(01:00:33):
out though, that I wanted to see in Danton Lynn's
debut as defensive coordinator was the fact that it looked
like LSU's defense LSU's. USC's defensive line was a little
bit more prepared. LSU, other than ripping off one or
two big carries with John Emery held their own, wasn't
able to generate much of a pass rush, but looked
to be a little bit more formidable on the defensive
side of the ball than what we've seen from Alex
(01:00:53):
Grinch over the last couple of years.
Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
All Right, Todd Week one of the NFL? What do
you look for in Week one? Are you kind of
like the guy goes up? You know what, I'm would
to bet the favorites until I figure it out. I'm
betting the home teams. I'm betting the teams I feel
good with, like Kansas City? What do you look for
in week number one?
Speaker 8 (01:01:10):
Typically play more totals than I do sides A lot
of things. A lot of things get overblown in terms
of people expecting teams to pick up where they left
off when last season finished, when in reality, you do
it enough digging, You read some of the players and
coaches comments, and you hope that they can hit the
ground running. These are some of the lower totals that
we've seen, and you can kind of understand why through
(01:01:30):
the first two weeks of the preseason they weren't exactly
Picasso's by any stretch of the imagination, But you know me, aren't.
Typically during September, before the books know who's good and
who's bad. You have a lot of parody in this league,
so you're oftentimes going to do a heck of a
lot better taking the points with most of these teams
than you will laying it I mean, everyone seems to
be of the consensus that New England is probably one
of the worst teams in the league, as their win
(01:01:51):
total suggests. But it's Week one, Jamar Chase hasn't played.
I'm not advocating for New England, but am I running
a lay more than a touchdown with a Bengals team
that I'm not sure what I'm going to get. Have
to anticipate that you're going to see some underdog money
coming in there, knowing that those points are at a
premium with one of the lower totals on the board
as well.
Speaker 1 (01:02:07):
Hey, Tod, I want to shift back to the college
game real quick too. I guess you could say kind
of shocking results, not in that George and Miami one,
but in the dominating factor that they did pulling away
in the second half. So, in your opinion, which fan
base should be more in nuclear I don't know code
red panic mode right now, Clemson or Florida. Who should
(01:02:27):
be down? Who should be more concerned?
Speaker 8 (01:02:29):
I think both should be ready and willing to push
the panic button, Florida more so because their schedule doesn't
offer them any restpit. I know we're going to talk
about until we're blue in the face. But if you
look at the gaulllet that they'll have to go through,
assuming that Billy Napier is still their head coach in November,
it's not going to do them any favors. And the
one thing that stood out to me watching that game yesterday.
We could talk about x's and o's level of preparation,
(01:02:50):
everything else, they just didn't look like they have the
athletes to match up with Miami. And we know Miami
spent a pretty penny to put together that roster to
the transfer portal in high school recruiting. Look like those
two teams were playing different sports. And credit to the Canes.
When Montreal Johnson ripped off that big run to make
it a seventeen ten game, Miami answers right back. The
one thing I want to temper Miami Hurricanes fans expectations
(01:03:12):
on is they got the full breath of the cam
Ward experience. He's going to make some highlight real plays
and he's going to make some head scratching throws. There's
still some teams that'll be able to provide a little
bit of a roadblock for Miami in the ACC Clemson,
on the other hand, I mean, you have all summer
to put together that offensive game plan, and that's the
best you can muster. I think they played scared, they
played conservative, and when you look at the opening drive,
(01:03:33):
it appeared, you know, I know it didn't last long,
but Kate Clebnick had a couple of throws.
Speaker 6 (01:03:36):
He's got to make.
Speaker 8 (01:03:37):
They had some self inflicted wounds as well, and it
almost feels like this is a Clemson program desperate to
find an identity and I'm not sure they're going to
find it this season. But you do wonder how much
longer Dabbo has if this team doesn't win nine or
ten games.
Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Oh and I said that earlier. Todd, believe me, and
I'm making myself a note. Now send Todd one thousand
dollars to bet on a state because they're going to
be Clemson next week up special number one Dodd app
State over Clemson.
Speaker 8 (01:04:06):
I'm not sure I'm gonna go that far. Oh, come on,
come on, proclamation with the mound years a seventeen point
dog and look, app State has done it before. We'll
see if they can do it again and how Clemson regroups.
But there's not a whole lot to be excited about
offensively for the Tigers. I mean, coming into this year,
they talked about the four and five star recruits. They
don't get any of those playmakers involved on the outside.
(01:04:27):
Never really tested Georgia's secondary and Georgia looked a little
wobbley for the first thirty minutes. But when you can't capitalize,
good teams are going to find a way to land
that knockout punch. So we'll see how Clemson bounces back
the same way that we'll get a better indication of
what Florida State was able to correct off of their
loss against Georgia Tech and the season opener tomorrow when
the Seminoles have a chance of the sixteen point favorite
(01:04:48):
to get back into Lincolumn.
Speaker 1 (01:04:49):
You hit any of those upset specials yet, Arnie, not yet?
Consumer Okay there, Dodd curious. One final thought from me,
just it's so hot. Hard to gauge right now because
not Ed ain't beat A and M I thought it
was a great game A and might be terrible.
Speaker 3 (01:05:06):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
They looked good USC with that one to night over LSU.
Who knows, maybe LSU was a one hit wonder And
gartness Meyer can't be that consistent. How are you balancing
what was truly something you buy into and what you're
being patient to say maybe this isn't worth an investment
right now.
Speaker 8 (01:05:24):
You know, one data point is helpful, but it's not
going to be as helpful as getting two or three
more to try and get a better indication. Because you're
exactly right, Chris. We can look at the September schedule
and go, you know what, that was a season defining win.
But if the opponent that they beat that was expected
to win nine or ten games finishes the year six
and six, what did it really tell us? And on
the flip side, for certain teams that go out there
(01:05:44):
in surprise, there's a chance that hey, maybe Georgia tach
is as good as what they look like against Florida
State and the Seminoles happened to go ten and two,
and we diminish the actual win for Georgia TACK or
the loss for Florida State or maximize it. So it's
always one of those things. It's reactionary spot with a
limited ample size in just twelve games. But I cautioned
people that not hit the panic button right away. But
(01:06:05):
if you're living in Gainesville, I would be a little
bit concerned, and if you're an LSU Tigers fan, probably
not thrilled at the Brian Kelly experience, knowing that you haven't.
We're on a season opener going all the way back
to twenty nineteen, and for LSU, it's the team, in
my opinion, that I think takes a little bit of
a step back, and that's why you saw professional betters
betting them under their win total at nine and a
half before the year started, you know, Todd last week.
Speaker 2 (01:06:25):
For me, usually I wait till our number three, but
I do have arnies can't miss two team parlay this weekend.
Eagles minus three against Green Bay, they're going to beat
them like a redheaded stepchild. And the Bills minus six
against Arizona. That one's already done. You might as well
mark that I think that's a winner already.
Speaker 8 (01:06:42):
Well, I'm glad that you're willing and so confident to
lay the worst. The number with Philadelphia, who's widely available,
is only a two and a half point favorite. Apollo
in Brazil and as far as Arizona, Buffalo, Arnie, that
makes me feel a lot better because I think the
Cardinals are a live Underdog, Oh No go thru identifying
a defensive identity without Matt Mulano. The one thing to
(01:07:02):
keep in mind that I will say a tried and
true trend not to play up blind, but something to
keep in mind. Teams that miss the playoffs are typically
good bets against teams that made the playoffs the year before.
Public perception plays such a role in the NFL that
everybody feels like they get the blank slate and the
opportunity to go out there. So I would lean strongly
the other way towards Arizona, so you can have as
(01:07:22):
much love as you'd like.
Speaker 1 (01:07:24):
Hey, I'm sorry I got any buzz around the Raiders
at all house the Raiders.
Speaker 8 (01:07:31):
Unfortunately, this is the first time in a long time
on a Sunday night plank that Arn'ty's actually correct on
the Raiders, and I think it's an organization that feels
somewhat rudderless, unfortunately. And you do wonder if they're going
to try and do everything they can. Should they start
the season slowly to try and get something for DeVante Adams.
I personally think they're making a little bit of a
mistake with Gardner Minshew starting him. I know they said
(01:07:53):
that his mobility helps behind a makeshift offensive line. But
if you're the Raiders and your win total six and
a half, go out the play the kid Nadan O'Connell.
If he's not the answer, you're drafting inside the top ten,
try and find your franchise quarterback. But it would be
fitting if we saw for the Raiders. Everyone talks about
Shador Sanders the Dallas Cowboys Dion Sanders and Shador head
(01:08:13):
coach and quarterback combination to take over the Silver and Black.
What better fit in Las Vegas to try and grab
Helloa out here in the deck.
Speaker 1 (01:08:19):
As some headlines. All right, Todd, have great week, buddy.
We appreciate the time. As always podcast. It's a pleasure
Bet the Board podcast. Follow him on Twitter at Todd Firm.
And ladies and gentlemen, Steve de Seger, Sorry Steve, running
a little bit behind. Come strolling into the tire rack
dot com studios.
Speaker 4 (01:08:34):
What's up, Steve, Well, we've got this game from Vegas
to talk about. We do have a quote from the
losing coach, Brian Kelly. That's about fifteen seconds to play,
and certainly we have to get into the direct TV
fiasco but it was a USC win in its season
opener against LSU twenty seven to twenty tonight on a
touchdown run with eight seconds left. LSU committed ten penalties,
(01:08:56):
including a personal foul for targeting in the final seconds.
Brian Kelly postgame press conference.
Speaker 5 (01:09:02):
And we're sitting here again. We're sitting here again talking
about the same things about not finishing when you have
an opponent in a position to put them away.
Speaker 1 (01:09:16):
But what we're doing on the sideline is feeling like
the game's over, and it was not.
Speaker 4 (01:09:22):
LSU had just tied it on a thirty one yard
field goal with under two minutes to go, But twenty
seven to twenty sc is the final. Tomorrow, it's Boston
College at Florida State. By the way, college football, you
were talking about Clemson coach Dabosweeney and the transfers since
they've had the new transfer rule in recent seasons, He's
had a couple of transfers, but they were backup quarterbacks,
(01:09:45):
so it's certainly not starters. Right nationwide in college football
and FBS go back five years ago, only six percent
of your roster was transfer. Last year it was twenty
percent of your roster was transferred, and they said it's
more than that if you just go what percentage of
starters in FBS are transferred? Last night yesterday on the broadcast,
(01:10:07):
they said it's about a third of your starters are
transfer literally, never started a transfer since the new rules.
Speaker 1 (01:10:16):
Good luck to them.
Speaker 4 (01:10:17):
As far as the college football polls, because we have
the Monday night Labor Day game, we won't get this
week's polls until Tuesday. So for one more day, Florida
State is number ten in the country.
Speaker 1 (01:10:28):
Enjoy it.
Speaker 4 (01:10:29):
Typically the polls will be released every Sunday, but the
ones that count the college football playoff rankings don't come
out till November. That's from early November until selection Sunday
in December. Now, as far as the direct TV fiasco, well,
first off, the USC win came in the final seconds,
as I mentioned, having nothing to do with DirecTV. The
(01:10:50):
ABC affiliate in Hawaii randomly broke away in the final
seconds before the touchdown and did not rejoin until after
the touchdown was scored. Why good question. Somebody asleep with
the way. We know it wasn't late at night, we
know we know tifference that was not the case. It
was sunny and hot, daytime, that whole UCLA game at
(01:11:13):
Hawaii yesterday. As far as Direct TV, it has removed
all of its channels. Disney has removed all of its
channels from DirecTV in a carriage dispute. Their existing contract.
Yes expired September first today, to be specific, it expired
apparently at five pm Eastern time. But still you had
the channels here in LA for example, until fifteen minutes
(01:11:35):
before kickoff and then caput just and all channels have
been black on those numbers. And again it's not just
ABC everything that Disney fast. Can I add that we
get into, you know so much with the cable and
the streaming. You're not completely shut out of sports here, people,
(01:11:57):
because there are plenty of channels that are surrounding you
in the air for free. And I have on three
different televisions, including for friends. Gone to my local electronics
store and for less than twenty bucks bought a brand
new indoor flat antenna Rabbit Ears. You know, it's new
and the easiest thing in the world to install. You
(01:12:18):
don't have to go outside, you don't have to go
on the roof. You literally plug one part into the
back of the TV and tack up the flat antenna
on the window or up on the wall.
Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
And it works.
Speaker 7 (01:12:29):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (01:12:29):
Absolutely. We got sixty channels for free that way. Wow,
and others have as well. Usually you have to be
within forty miles of your antennas in your county or
wherever the t re reception originates from. Some are better
antennas that can get like fifty to seventy miles away.
But you'll be able to get some free TV that way,
unless you live in an apartment building that's a complete
(01:12:51):
bunker and you have hard time getting internet also. But
like from our studios in Los Angeles, we're within forty
miles of all the TV stations on the mountain near Pasadena,
near Santa Anita, so we could do that here, for example,
and in many many other parts of Los Angeles, which
is a very spread out county. So for example, we've
got Texas at Michigan on Fox TV Saturday, the big
(01:13:13):
noon kickoff noon Eastern time. Keep in mind that's on
a regular channel. Even if something happened to that one day,
there's still ways around this. If you're a college football
fan in the South, the ABC triple Header involves teams
in the South. Next weekend that's a regular channel to
see Arkansas, to see Kentucky, to see Tennessee.
Speaker 1 (01:13:33):
All of that can be solved.
Speaker 4 (01:13:35):
By the way, the best ratings will come with the
Fox game Saturday and the Fox game Sunday, because Tom
Brady's first day in the booth Sunday is Dallas at Cleveland.
But even the first Monday night game, they're supposed to
carry it on the ABC, not just on cable, so
there are some workarounds on this.
Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
I was checking to make sure I had all the
right channels for this year, make sure I get all
the games I didn't.
Speaker 3 (01:13:55):
Even if I had all the right ones.
Speaker 4 (01:13:57):
NASCAR ended the regular season tonight with a Chase Risko victory,
and in baseball, Philadelphia in eleven innings beat Atlanta three
to two.
Speaker 1 (01:14:05):
Back to you, thanks Steve, as we come to you
live from the tire rack dot Com studios. It's Arnie
and Plank. Don't forget.
Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
Shortly after we wrap up tonight, you can find the
podcast if you missed any of today's show, including our
conversation with Todd Furman. Simply search Fox Sports Radio wherever
you get your podcasts, and be sure to follow, rate,
and review the podcast.
Speaker 1 (01:14:25):
Again. Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcast.
You'll see this show posted right after we get off
the air. All right, when we come back, we got
a lot of games to still recap. Arnie's picks are
coming up right around the corner.
Speaker 2 (01:14:38):
We've got feel good too, the full weekend of NFL
games that start on Thursday with the Banger, the Ravens
and the Chiefs, and your tweets have been fantastic. It's
all coming up on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:14:50):
All right, it's already in Plank on the Fox Sports
Sunday Great Night. USC ends up beating LSU twenty seven
to twenty. Thanks to Kyron Hudson for joining up us
here on the program, and thanks to Steve de Seger
for being in tonight. What do we got Steve? What
are we missing out on the season?
Speaker 4 (01:15:06):
Well, we did hear the comment from the losing coach,
LSU's Brian Kelly. The quote I saw from the winning coach,
Lincoln Riley was that was some pretty good Big ten
football today.
Speaker 3 (01:15:15):
A sure is that weeke. I love it.
Speaker 4 (01:15:19):
I love the stat I saw from the AP writer
who was there that in how many weekends have you
had USC allow twenty points or fewer, while Iowa scores
forty or more the same week.
Speaker 1 (01:15:32):
The answer is, in the.
Speaker 4 (01:15:33):
Last six seasons, it had all happened twice twice, and
one of those was when USC beat a wretched Colorado
team a few years ago. So it was really rare weekend.
But yes, USC did get the victory Woody Mark's two
touchdown runs, including the game winner with eight seconds left.
You talked about PAC twelve after dark, and technically there
are two PAC twelve teams still remaining. One of them
(01:15:56):
is playing after dark next weekend on Fox TV ten
pm E extern time. Washington State is going to be
hosting Texas Tech Friday night on FS one. Do get Northwestern?
Did either of you see any of the Northwestern game
this past weekend because they're playing in a temporary stadium
the next two years. Yeah, absolutely, They have turned their
(01:16:18):
practice field into a very small stadium. I think it
was twelve thousand fans they said they had packed into
there was the.
Speaker 1 (01:16:27):
Yeah, it's small.
Speaker 4 (01:16:28):
It was very odd to see the team in full
uniform and pads come out of an office building or
classroom building and walk just a few minutes, I mean
a few steps almost to the field and people going
crazy for the opener and all.
Speaker 1 (01:16:43):
But here it's like, you know, the.
Speaker 4 (01:16:45):
Period just got out at four o'clock, and they are
very few seats available on the sideline at this Northwestern
temporary facility because otherwise you're putting bleachers into Lake Michigan.
So a lot of the seats are on each end
of the end zone. But duke at Northwestern Friday nights
on FS one. The LA Rams are reportedly hiring former
(01:17:06):
Nebraska coach Scott Frost as an analyst. We have the
NFL opening its season Thursday, with Kansas City hosting Baltimore.
Wide receiver Marquise Brown and the Chiefs with the bad
shoulder did not practice today, will not play on Thursday.
Ravens tight end Mark Andrews just returned to practice on Friday.
He'd missed over two weeks after a car accident. Green
(01:17:27):
Bay opens its season this Friday in Brazil against Philadelphia. Yeah,
they'll get clobbered for those who get to see it.
Packers running back Marshawn Lloyd returned to limited practice today
after the bad hamstring and as for the NASCAR regular season,
it ended tonight with the Southern five hundred and the winner,
which gets him into the playoffs. Amazingly, Chase Briscoe Kyle
(01:17:48):
Busch finished second and missed the playoffs. Into the playoffs
Martin Truex Junior and Ty Gibbs. Tyler Reddick took the
regular season title, holding on by a points over Kyle Larson.
Sattie Scheffler won the PGA's Tour Championship. He gets a
first prize of twenty five million dollars today. He won
by four strokes over Colin Morikawa. This season, including bonuses,
(01:18:12):
Scheffler earned over sixty two million dollars on the course.
Separate from endorsements, he won eight times this year, including
the Olympic gold. They're saying it's the best golf season
on tour since Tiger Woods about twenty years ago. In fact,
he finished out of the top ten only three times
all year.
Speaker 2 (01:18:31):
Even all the winning, though, still doesn't bring people to
golf like Tiger brought people to golf.
Speaker 3 (01:18:36):
Correct, absolutely not even close, not even close.
Speaker 4 (01:18:39):
Yeah, golf still among the weekend sports I mean, separate
from football. I'm talking about During the course of the
twelve months, a final round of golf still gets still
gets viewers it still gets pretty good eyeballs, and that's
why with their rich sponsors, they still do okay. But
you're right, it's not like Tiger Woods twenty years ago
(01:18:59):
in that regard. As far as the WNBA, Las Vegas
won at Phoenix, Asia Wilson had forty one points, seventeen rebounds,
and no turnovers. Meanwhile, in Indiana's win at Dallas, Caitlin
Clark twenty eight points. She had twelve assists seven turnovers.
But her team, the Fever is over the five hundred
mark for the first time in five years, which was
(01:19:20):
a league record. They're seventeen and sixteen now. Minnesota beat Chicago,
but Angel Rees had nineteen rebounds in defeat, breaking the
WNBA rebounding record for a single season, and the Chicago
White Sox have lost again got shut out again, up
two to nothing to the Mets, who've won four in
a row. Sean and and Iah the win Edwin Diaz
(01:19:40):
the say the Mets have won nine of thirteen. They're
only a game back of the Braves for the last
atl wildcard spot, as the Braves lost tonight in eleven innings,
three to two at Philadelphia. Nick Castianos with all three
RBIs the White Sox offense today went two for twenty
seven at the play. This is a ten game losing streak.
All ten were at home and it's their third ten
(01:20:02):
game losing streak this year. Their record is thirty one
and one oh seven. That's a franchise record for losses
in a season for them. They trail Cleveland in the
division standings by forty seven and a half games. They've
been swept swept in twenty two different series a season.
Tickets to that, No, I cannot imagine that, the answer
(01:20:23):
is no. The expansion Mets have the record one hundred
and twenty losses in a season. That was back in
nineteen sixty two. This is one oh seven and counting.
Best stat I heard is if the White Sox were
playing into Thanksgiving and they went their next seventy five
and oh, they would still be under five hundred.
Speaker 1 (01:20:41):
That's how bad they are. I love it. That quick, quick,
hot take, Steve, that's not good team record today for
the White Sox for most losses in a season. All right,
When we come back to the tyrack dot Com studio,
a full breakdown of what we learn, what we think
we know, and what we know, we know us, who's in,
(01:21:01):
who's out? We're talking NFL new some Fox Sports Radio.
Here we go Power Hour from the tire rack dot
Com studios with the stinking genius. Are are you going
to get out of me?
Speaker 2 (01:21:14):
If I said that there weren't great matchups in week
one and there's not really great matchups in week.
Speaker 1 (01:21:18):
Two, I mean how many? I always just ask how
many do you need? Well?
Speaker 3 (01:21:22):
I know we have Texas Michigan. But other than that,
can I get to read in first?
Speaker 1 (01:21:29):
Can I? Can I take care of tire rackt Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:21:32):
Take care of Tireck. Do that cause I'll get new
tires soon, so I need.
Speaker 1 (01:21:35):
We're broadcasting live from the tire rack dot Com studios.
Tire rack dot com will help you get there on
unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection at
over ten thousand recommended installers tire rack dot com. The
way tirebink should be games is that I said, you
didn't think this was a good week in a game.
Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
Didn't think there was a lot of good week in
the game, and the weekend coming up, there's not a
lot of great matchups.
Speaker 3 (01:21:58):
Do have te Michigan as a I bought up but
other than.
Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
That, maybe a Baylor Utah, maybe a Colorado Nebraska, even
though both team's not in the top twenty five, though
I am looking forward to that Tennessee, NC State.
Speaker 3 (01:22:11):
But otherwise, no, there's not a whole heck of a
lot of great matchups.
Speaker 1 (01:22:14):
Arkansas Oklahoma State two teams that won their opener. Dude,
you got to start watching these.
Speaker 3 (01:22:20):
Hanging your hat on the frons. Yeah, I know that's
what I'm thinking.
Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
Now's the It's a whole different mindset for me because
it's no longer Pac twelve, it's Big twelve. I gotta
watch some of these garbage teams that I usually don't
like to watch. So yeah, I gotta get a whole
different mind.
Speaker 1 (01:22:35):
Ihawks series, Iowa State, Iowa, California is making a rare
trip to the planes. They take on Auburn this weekend.
You got conference play starting with the SEC South Carolina
and Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (01:22:47):
I do have app State seriously beating Clemson, I think,
and that's really gonna get that on the hot seat.
Speaker 1 (01:22:52):
Oh my goodness. Well you also again, I know you
don't like to point out when you're wrong. Yes, but
even though one of your up set picks cover that
was Florida Atlantic. None of your upset picks won. I
think Samford might give Florida game. If you want to
talk about an upset pick, that could be fascinating. But
we don't have a lot of great matchups. And that's
(01:23:13):
why we have conference realignment, because you're you're gonna have
good games non conference games. I think teams are still
gonna schedule up, but your real fun's gonna come in
week five and week six and week seven when you
get the Texas Is and the Georgia's and the oklaoma
Is playing the Alabamas.
Speaker 2 (01:23:29):
Chris by Far I'm not a complainer, you know that,
But not at all even Week one of the NFL.
I mean, yeah, you have the good matchup Thursday Friday,
but after that, not a lot of great games on
Sunday to start the week off in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (01:23:44):
I kind of felt in the NFL, I almost felt
like they made the primetime games, the Thursday night game,
the Friday night game, the Sunday night game, and the
Monday night game, so good, right, the rest of no good?
Everything else kind of sucks, to be honest, I'm with
you on that. UN I mean look at your primetime games.
Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
Yeah, you like Rams, Lions, Sunday Night jetson San Francisco
is the Monday night game?
Speaker 1 (01:24:10):
Aaron Rodgers back. I think it's. I think by the
way they started on did they start on Sunday Night
Football last year? No, because it wasn't during our show.
I think it was on Monday Night Football when they
started last year too. But you get the Ravens and
the Chiefs on Thursday. The Friday game, which is in Brazil,
is the Packers and the Eagles. And then what's your
biggest game on Sunday? I mean, you gotta dig a
(01:24:33):
little bit right, right right, Cowboys Browns. That's what Tom
Brady's gonna be, right, And that's really it.
Speaker 3 (01:24:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:24:40):
By the way, I just watch you to know the
San Francisco forty nine ers. That's my pick of a lifetime.
I'm using it this weekend, your pick of a so
pick of a lifetime.
Speaker 1 (01:24:50):
There's the uh, there's the lock of the century, there's
a lock of.
Speaker 2 (01:24:53):
The week, lock of the month, lock of the season,
Block of the decade.
Speaker 3 (01:24:59):
This is the lock of your life.
Speaker 1 (01:25:01):
I wish you would start listening to our pregame show
on Sunday. Like to hear Bill Krakenberger and real gambler
like Jeff Schwartz talk about their picks. They don't say
pick of the lifetime and all. Why guarantee this? They
give you numbers and facts and stats as to why
they're picking them. You just tell me every single week. Oh,
(01:25:22):
I love, Oh it was.
Speaker 2 (01:25:23):
I'm having a little bit of a bad start. All
of a sudden, You're jumping down my throat. I see
how it's got to be with you. No, no, no,
it's not a bad start. It's it's been a bad ever. Unfortunately,
that's not.
Speaker 3 (01:25:34):
True at all, not true at all. Bat ever, stop it.
Speaker 1 (01:25:38):
So I was dip diving into do you want to
do college here or a pro.
Speaker 3 (01:25:44):
Both, whatever you want to do, go ahead, and you
just okay.
Speaker 1 (01:25:47):
Well I was diving into some some pro football storylines,
and I was I was filling in for Bernie last night.
Thank you, Bernie for taking off in a night that
was made for me. I mean, if there was ever
a night made for me to f on any show
solo in out the middle of the night. Yeah, wait
four hours. It's the opening weekend of the college football season.
So thank you Bernie. I'll never understand why people take
(01:26:09):
that week off or take that night off, but I'm
grateful for it that that's the night I get to
fill in, because there's never been a night that was
in my power ally like that last night.
Speaker 2 (01:26:18):
There's a lot of people taking Monday off because of
the holiday. But yeah, I don't get it. I don't
get it. It's Labor Day. You've got college football games
to recap. The NFL season gets underway in four days.
Are you filling in tomorrow?
Speaker 7 (01:26:31):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:26:31):
No, no, I'm not allowed to fill in when the
sun's up. So no, I'm oh, that's right, that's right.
New rules here on Fox Sports Radio. But with all
the college football excitement, you kind of pause for a moment.
You're like, damn, the NFL season starts on Thursday. So
I went through all of the all of the different
websites arenie esp dot com, SI dot com, whatever, you
(01:26:53):
follow whatever, you look at, Yahoo dot com. I was
looking at what it was it is, Skedia, dot com, whatever,
And I looked at all the storylines, and I cold
the four that seemed to be the most consistent. So
are you ready for those big storylines heading into the season?
Speaker 3 (01:27:09):
Yeah, they not.
Speaker 1 (01:27:10):
You're okay, here's number one, the Chiefs pursuit of a three.
Speaker 3 (01:27:14):
P Everybody wants to know that.
Speaker 1 (01:27:16):
Of course, three super Bowls over the last five years,
they've been the conference champion, now six years in a row.
The only thing we've seen like this would have been
New England from about eleven to eighteen.
Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
Even there's only hope of trying to be on the
same plane is now we're going to get in this one.
Speaker 1 (01:27:30):
So are are you thinking they got better this offseason?
How are you viewing the Chiefs? Because to me, it's
the same team. It's the same it's the same team.
Speaker 2 (01:27:41):
I feel like Kelsey, you know's got you know, maybe
he doesn't have the mindset. Is that wrong to think
something like that because of you know who he's dating
and all the traveling and wait.
Speaker 1 (01:27:53):
Who's he dating? I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. You know.
Speaker 2 (01:27:57):
You just got to wonder do they have it again
in them? And obviously they've had the two times, Well
they have it the third. That's the only thing that
could stop them as themselves. I don't know if anybody else.
I mean, the the Ravens game is going to be tough.
But overall in the seventeen game season, they should be
fine to win the division.
Speaker 1 (01:28:14):
Though well, hell, they lost the opener last year, they
lost the Lions last year, they lost to the Raiders
on Christmas last year at home, and they still won
the NAM Super Bowl. So I don't know if it's
just one of those things that's inevitable or not. But
they're really good. Okay, here was the other one, the
dynamic kickoff. If that's the term that we're going to use,
are you thinking it's going to be much of a
difference maker? Is Did we get all that out of
(01:28:36):
our system in the preseason and leading up to it
and it's just oh yeah, it's the new kickoff rule
or does it end up really being an impact this year.
Speaker 3 (01:28:43):
I think it's gonna have an impact.
Speaker 2 (01:28:45):
But I do want to say this, after watching Week
one of college football, it made me realize how much
I miss the old rules on the kickoff. You understand
that the you know, because we've had so many Just
kick it into the end zone, take the ball at
what the twenty year twenty five yard line, yeah, twenty
five yard line or whatever it is, and then start
there no great field position, you know, like we saw
(01:29:06):
in a lot of the college football games, people running
the kickoff back, you know, getting him in the forty
or midfield or something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:29:13):
We're not gonna have. That really makes me miss the
old kickoff days.
Speaker 1 (01:29:17):
Yeah, and you had a big play tonight but kind
of changed the course of this game.
Speaker 2 (01:29:22):
But the penalty that made him kickoff from the twenty
and then they took that kickoff and got it up
past the fifty.
Speaker 1 (01:29:27):
I mean, that's what I was gonna say. But thank you.
All right, Yeah, I guess I'm not allowed to talk,
so yeah, I just saved that. Yeah, go ahead. Yeah, jeez, dude,
Aaron Rodgers in his return, right. I mean, this seems
to be a storyline that's bubbling a bit from people
that think that he's going to be a difference maker
and it's going to be amazing to the Colin Coward
(01:29:48):
promo because I filled in. I've heard all a bazillion
times about how, hey, we got to go back three
years to where he was really good. Are you buying
that Aaron Rodgers is going to be a difference maker
this year or are the Jets in for another heartbreaking
long asst.
Speaker 2 (01:30:03):
No, No, he's not gonna be the difference maker this year.
Matter of fact, when you say that's, you know, the
big storyline, maybe for a couple of weeks until people realize, well,
it looks like he doesn't have it anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:30:14):
So the Jets are o veer.
Speaker 2 (01:30:16):
I'm not kidding around when I tell you that San
Francisco is my pick of the lifetime.
Speaker 3 (01:30:20):
I mean laying three and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
At home to a Jets team that really should be
like a ten point underdog with a quarterback coming back
from a major injury to go play up there in
San Francisco, forget about it. San Francisco should win this
game by at least two touchdowns, maybe more. And I
don't think he's gonna be coming back so easily from
an injury like he had.
Speaker 3 (01:30:42):
I think it's gonna be tougher than people think.
Speaker 1 (01:30:45):
Two teams that are affected by holdouts, San Francisco forty
nine ers don't have their starting left tackle.
Speaker 3 (01:30:53):
I thought they signed ay guy. I couldn't even remember anymore.
I just said that, go ahead.
Speaker 1 (01:30:58):
Yeah, they don't have Trent Williams. They're starting left tackle,
which is kind of a big deal. And I don't
know about you, but I watch them play the Raiders
when they had their starters, right, they look terrible. Yes,
and you coming back doesn't cure everything for them. Number two,
the Jets might have been made the dumbest move of
the off season in essentially signing our trading for Asan
(01:31:22):
Reddick and then not signing him to a long term deal. Arnie,
so he's sitting out as well. So I wonder about
that with the with the New York Jets to two
teams that are without two guys that are supposed to
be big time parts of what they do.
Speaker 3 (01:31:36):
All right, I think, by the way, do you think
Rogers will come back to have a good year?
Speaker 1 (01:31:40):
Do you?
Speaker 7 (01:31:40):
I do.
Speaker 2 (01:31:41):
I think he's gonna have a good year. I think
he's gonna have a good year. I only the Jets
like ten wins or something like that. Then I don't
know if yeah, yeah, ten wins, ten and seven, why
not that's a that's a pretty good season, I think
if you're a New York Jets fan, even though what's
there over under, I think it's like a nine and.
Speaker 3 (01:31:58):
A half ten right now, so that high I can't
be that.
Speaker 1 (01:32:02):
Hold on, Well, you're my gambling expert. You're supposed to.
Speaker 3 (01:32:06):
It can't be nine and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:32:07):
If it's nine and a half, I'm selling my brand
new jeep and I'm gonna put it all on the other.
Speaker 1 (01:32:11):
Ten and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:32:12):
Oh, get on, it's not ten and a half. Get
out of here, Get out of here.
Speaker 1 (01:32:17):
I just Google searched over underwind.
Speaker 2 (01:32:19):
You must have made a mistake. Somebody else, Double check
plint Vegas Insider has it at bet MGM at ten
and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:32:25):
No, that you're not reading it right obviously at.
Speaker 1 (01:32:29):
Okay, moving on. The other big storyline that is out
there is the first round draft picks at quarterback that
are going to get a start. Kayleb Williams, jayde Daniels.
I think eventually Drake May is going to be the
guy in New England. I actually think eventually Michael Pennocks
could be the guy in Atlanta. We know Bo Nicks
is going to start the opener. We got rookie quarterbacks.
We had six of them taken in the first round.
(01:32:51):
One of them's out for the year with an injury,
though he might have ended up starting, and half of
them are starting in Week one.
Speaker 2 (01:32:57):
I always can't wait to see something like that. I'm
dying this Seekleb Williams. I know everybody loves him. I
think he's a good quarterback. I'm not ready to put
him in the Hall of Fame like you have him in.
Speaker 1 (01:33:08):
He's good at him.
Speaker 2 (01:33:09):
I want to see what that does and what Chicago's
going to be this year because they did make some moves.
They've added and bolstered the offense. The offensive line has
gotten better, so he's not going to be laying on
his back the entire time.
Speaker 3 (01:33:21):
I can't wait to see what Caleb Williams is going
to be.
Speaker 1 (01:33:23):
And then the other big storyline, at least to me
here in the Tirack dot Com studios tonight, is who
becomes this year's Houston Texans who outperforms they're over under
win total to a degree where suddenly we think they're
Super Bowl contenders. Houston's over under win total was six
and a half, they won ten games last year, and
they have a franchise quarterback. Right, we think, look out,
(01:33:44):
this team is going to be trouble. So who's going
to perform their over runner win total to a degree
that we suddenly look at him and think look out?
And then who's going to not do you know who
have the top over under win total last year and
all of the National Football League along with the Chiefs and.
Speaker 2 (01:33:59):
He San Francisco Cincinnati eleven and a half and what happened.
What happened Joe Burrow got hurt injured downhill right, you know,
Wels was pretty high last year the Los Angeles Chargers.
Nine and a half to ten was what you could
get early in the season on the Chargers last year,
and the bottom fell out. So Arnie, to me, a
(01:34:22):
big storyline is and this one was when I kind
of had to create. No one was really as excited
about it as I was. Who's going to overperform and
who's going to underperform? Because every single year we're incredibly
high on a team that tanks, and we're incredibly low
on a team that comes out of nowhere. If I
was gonna say a team that's underperform, I guess I
would start with the Dallas Cowboys not making a lot
(01:34:43):
of moves. I'm starting to think that obviously the second
best team in that division. Maybe I was gonna say,
maybe fighting it out for the third, but I doubt
that because Washington I want to see what they are
with Daniels before I say anything. But Dallas, I just
don't buy into They're high number, and I'm thinking maybe
they'd take a step backwards this year.
Speaker 1 (01:35:06):
I think that I would take as a team that
might not perform as well as Philadelphia. I think we
started seeing signs of it last year. I love Jalen Hurtz,
but and I was a big non believer in Jalen Hurts.
I didn't think he would be an NFL quarterback. Dud
Damn near won the MVP and took his team to
the super Bowl and what his second season. But I
(01:35:26):
do think there's a certain sense of teams kind of
finding them out a little bit in a team that
could maybe surprise. That's where I'm struggling, Arnie. I'm having
a hard time this year finding a team in those
lower rungs of the the over underwin totals that might
actually be good. I mean, bottom line is, I don't
(01:35:46):
think the Patriots are going to be good. Authors are
going to be good. The Broncos maybe at five and
a half, that.
Speaker 2 (01:35:53):
Would be the only one, and I don't think they're
gonna be that good either.
Speaker 1 (01:35:58):
Saints are at seven and a half. I think they
he might be better than that.
Speaker 3 (01:36:01):
What is Vegas? What your Raiders are at.
Speaker 1 (01:36:04):
Six and a half, which was exactly what they were
last year. I know, I know Jeff Schwartz says he's
had sizeable bets on the under on that. I think
the Raiders are gonna win more than six games this year.
I mean, if I had a way that was, we
don't have legal wagering here in Oklahoma like you have
in Delaware, Sorrramont, so you can't well you got it
(01:36:26):
in Delaware too, if you want to go there where
you can just open up your phone and you still
refuse to do it and you could bet on about anything.
I would put a sizable amount of money on the
Raiders hitting the over. I'd also probably put a sizeable
amount of money on the Vikings hitting the under. Vikings
are at seven and a half right now, Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:36:44):
I gove the Vikings under too. I think it's I
think it's gonna be a miserable year for them. I
agree with you on that one night. I don't think
things are gonna get better for them this year.
Speaker 1 (01:36:52):
All right, when we come back to the tire rack
dot Com studios, all right, a recap, A full recap,
but the college football weekend that was things that caught
her eye. Teams that should be in even bigger trouble
than maybe you realize. And your tweets have been fantastic tonight.
So we'll hit him at Stinking Genius one. I'm at
Plank Show. Everybody go follow us at Fox Sports Radio.
It's Arnie in Plank on a Fox Sports Sunday. What
(01:37:16):
do you think of the question I asked Todd last hour, Arnie,
which fan base should be panicking Moore, Florida or Clemson
after what happened this weekend?
Speaker 2 (01:37:25):
Well, probably Florida because I don't see their coat. Well yeah,
problem is they want this weekend too. They want their
coach fired. But he's gonna get a boatload of money
right if they fired m So he's in a situation
where they can't let him go.
Speaker 1 (01:37:40):
Here's a laundry list of things from my Roman numeral
rundown tonight. You ready, Yeah, it may still be George
and everyone else. I know that everyone's impressed with Miami
and it was impressive. Florida's down bad, but I still
think Arnie, it's gonna be Georgie and everyone. You hear
what that you were that.
Speaker 2 (01:38:01):
You hear the people yelling right now, those are the
Texas fans going, oh wait, ti't we whoa wait do
you see more Texas.
Speaker 3 (01:38:07):
Georgia would just stomp Texas. It would be ugly. It
would be ugly.
Speaker 1 (01:38:11):
I am willing, though, to see how Clemson responds. I
think one thing Dabo said that I agree with one
hundred percent. A team like George exposes things like that,
Teams that I thought looked a part Penn State Andy
coltz NICKI their new offensive coordinator. You probably have no
idea who that is, but I thought he did a
good job and putting Drew Allen in good situations. I
(01:38:32):
think Hower was good.
Speaker 2 (01:38:33):
I mean, thirty four points. I didn't see Penn State's
offense like that.
Speaker 1 (01:38:37):
Yeah, But I also I think West Virginia did a
pretty good job of shooting themselves in the foot a
couple of times. Absolutely neither team could hold onto the football.
I don't necessarily disagree with going forward on the fourth
down and what was that and we had two turners.
It was like the third possession of the game when
they were deep in the Penn State red zone. But
(01:38:57):
the weather delay and it was just a game. All
that said, Arnie, I still came away really impressed with
Penn State. They caught my eye. I've not talked too
much about Oklahoma because I want to see more, but
I will say I was impressed with Oklahoma State. I
thought that might be a game where they could be
in trouble. South Dakota State had won like twenty nine
straight games, even at the FCS level, and you never
(01:39:19):
want to play Dakota in the opening weekend. Just ask
Dion Sanders boy, Arnie. They went out and kicked a
snot out of South Dakota State. They never gave him
a chance, winning forty four to twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:39:29):
Out of the good No, there was some I mean
there was some enjoyable games, no doubt about that. We
brought up by Arizona Wildcats. I was a little bit
embarrassed about them defensively though, Chris thirty nine, that's way
too many points to give up to a New Mexico team.
Didn't have a chance to watch your Oklahoma team, but
they looked like they.
Speaker 3 (01:39:47):
Just trouned for you.
Speaker 1 (01:39:48):
It was the only thing on Friday night.
Speaker 3 (01:39:50):
It was fifty one to three, though, I mean, come on,
and the.
Speaker 1 (01:39:54):
Other team that I thought looked apart was Notre Dame.
I thought Notre Dame looked really good. Now, part of
is Texas A and M's defense threw some things out
and then threw them off early. But to me, aren't
you in that game where game day was? And boy,
that atmosphere was hyped in college station? I thought Notre
Dame going in there and getting the win. I was
pretty damn impressed with it. Was good that they got
(01:40:15):
the win. I wasn't impressed with them overall, though. I
was like, Wow, that's a team that's going to compete
for a nasal. Notre Dame. Okay, go look at their
schedule real quick. Oh wait, take a moment. Yeah yeah,
just google Notre Dame schedule and you tell me where
their loss is going to be. You tell me where
that game where their loss is going to be.
Speaker 3 (01:40:34):
You know, it takes me hours to do something.
Speaker 1 (01:40:35):
Okay, they don't play anyone until Florida State on November tenth.
Speaker 2 (01:40:39):
Wow, all right, let me you know what's funny, as
usually they have the toughest schedule in all in college.
Speaker 1 (01:40:45):
That's right now, we'll see. Like I said, we all
watched Notre We all watched USC tonight and that was
impressive for USC. They're still on the Notre Dame schedule.
It's their last game of the year. But here's the
Notre Dame schedule after going to A and M and
winning at College Station Northern Illinois, at Purdue Miami of Ohio, Louisville, Stanford,
(01:41:08):
Georgia Tech, Navy, Florida State, Virginia Army.
Speaker 2 (01:41:11):
Oh my goodness, that's not a Notre Dame schedule at all.
That's that is real easy. Geez, that's easy. That's what
I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (01:41:19):
Now. Georgia Tech look good whenever they beat Florida State. Wow,
I think Notre Dame's defense is better than Florida State's.
My point is they looked apart. They went. I don't
know if a lot of teams would have wanted A
and M on Saturday night. But now you also start
looking forward and you're like, huh, look out, here are
some teams that I think open themselves up to questions,
(01:41:39):
arn't he. We've talked about it a lot. Tonight. The
Oregon Ducks, they seem to dominate early, then kind of
hit how did that happen?
Speaker 2 (01:41:47):
I mean, you're the number three team in the country.
You're playing Idaho. We know that Oregon just puts points
on the board like it's going out of style. You know,
fifty yard runs, seventy yard runs. They couldn't break anything.
I don't know what happened with them.
Speaker 1 (01:42:03):
Texas A and M I mentioned West Virginia opened them,
opened themselves up to some questions, and Ohio State. Listen,
Ohio State ended up winning. I think they covered too,
but it was a war of attrition. They finally just
had better players in Akron and beat them into submission
in the third quarter. I liked them a lot. I
(01:42:24):
think they're a playoff team. I think they're a championship contender,
but it's another one of those squads where like Oregon.
Even though both teams won, I think they opened themselves
up to some questions. Did you get to watch munch
of Will Howard or no.
Speaker 2 (01:42:36):
Watched the Michigan game and we brought them up earlier.
Not Ell got Texas coming up. They got usc They
struggled against fres though, like I said, that game was
sixteen to ten before they pulled away.
Speaker 3 (01:42:49):
Michigan's got some problems.
Speaker 1 (01:42:51):
Well do they? They still won the game in Fresno
State might be pretty good. They get Texas next.
Speaker 3 (01:42:55):
They were still twenty one on that point, favored in
that right, just.
Speaker 1 (01:42:57):
Because you picked them and they didn't cover by so
you're you're ready to be They were a twenty one
and a half point favorite, and they won by two.
Speaker 3 (01:43:05):
By twenty they got it. They pulled away late in
that game, though.
Speaker 1 (01:43:08):
All right, here's some teams that just not might might
not be that good. Colorado I still cannot believe. I
don't know who was on the call for ESPN. I
know my guy Roddy was the analyst. I don't know
who he was working with. But the fact that they
undersold the fact that that dude caught that hail mary.
He caught it at the yes, yes, he was like
(01:43:30):
the hail marys all. I was like, the dude caught
a hail mary on the five yard line and we're
acting like it's not I mean, come on, I think Arnie.
I think Nebraska might smoke him this weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:43:45):
I don't know about smoked him. What's the line in
that game, like six and a half seven or it
opened up.
Speaker 1 (01:43:49):
In six and a half. I'm welling to bet it's
up to eight already. I'm willing to bet I'm a
bow'll look real quick. Texas Tech, you need to pay
attention to them. They're in the Big twelve. It needed
time to be Abilene Christian. These are teams. They just
might not be very good UCLA.
Speaker 3 (01:44:06):
That was embarrassing.
Speaker 2 (01:44:07):
I watched a lot of that game on my secondary
TV because we had better games to watch, but I
was still.
Speaker 3 (01:44:12):
Paying attention to that one.
Speaker 2 (01:44:14):
I couldn't believe what was happening there, you know, because
I'd seen Hawaii the week before. I'm like, oh, you,
Steel should be able to trounce them and only a
fourteen point favorite, and I know they're going on the road,
but they're so much better than this Hawaii team.
Speaker 3 (01:44:29):
They're looking to escape with a winning that game.
Speaker 1 (01:44:31):
Seven and a half by the way for Colorado Nebraska
right now seven and a half point favorite for Nebraska.
South Carolina having to fight played yes, yeah. And then finally,
one of my favorite fights were Virginia Tech fans that
were yelling and screaming that they weren't ranked in the
preseason poll. Again they had, They had all of the
(01:44:52):
numbers in the S ANDPN decks and the most like
high returning percentage of snaps and plays and they got
beat by Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt vo Tech, who some people picked
to win the ACC might not be all that good.
And Arnie, finally, I mean college football is going to
be a war of attrition. Like I love your boy,
I love Teto mcmill I think he's gonna be awesome.
(01:45:15):
I love your quarterback Fafita. But if one of those
two guys gets hurt, oh, I want to hear that exactly.
And I think that's what you're gonna see across college football.
We've got more games with the playoffs, keeping the play
the conference championship games. It's gonna become who can be
the healthiest when you get to those first and second
round playoff games.
Speaker 2 (01:45:33):
And I want to see how many losses does still
keep you in consideration. You mentioned a three loss team
from the SEC, which is still very possible.
Speaker 3 (01:45:41):
I agree with you there. I just want to see
how this all plays out, Arnie.
Speaker 1 (01:45:44):
Is there one team to put a rap on our
college football talk for tonight? Is there one team that
you absolutely either won eighty or completely change their opinion
on things after one game?
Speaker 3 (01:46:00):
After one game?
Speaker 2 (01:46:01):
Oregon did it to me Oregon when I saw what
they the way they struggled against an Idaho team who's
not very good and Oregon member we're thinking they're gonna
win a championship. People were picking them in the pregame
and number three coming in. I'm like, man, we totally
overranked this Oregon team. Heck, I wanted Jeff Schwartz fired
after I saw that game, So yeah, they completely maybe
(01:46:22):
changed my mind about them.
Speaker 1 (01:46:23):
I still don't understand why you would want Jeff Schwartz
fired out.
Speaker 3 (01:46:25):
Would you either go to Oregon or your root for them?
After that game? You gotta get fired. I'm sorry, christ
and I got well.
Speaker 1 (01:46:31):
As we come to you tonight from the tiraq dot
com studios, let's get caught up on everything going on
and has gone on and will go on. Gonna have
to fire the Saga had lost with Steve de Sager.
What's going on, Steve?
Speaker 4 (01:46:45):
By the way, that South Carolina home game I read
their payout was one point five million dollars to Old Dominion.
Speaker 1 (01:46:51):
To come for the visit.
Speaker 3 (01:46:52):
Yes, unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (01:46:53):
And Michigan paid Fresno State one point eight five million
for last night's game.
Speaker 3 (01:46:58):
Oh ouch, And that.
Speaker 4 (01:47:00):
The SEC teams had a losing record over the weekend
against the power teams two and three, two and three
against the power Conference.
Speaker 1 (01:47:07):
LSU come on rated conference.
Speaker 4 (01:47:10):
That's right, Vanderbilt getting one of those wins, by the way,
include them. USC beat LSU twenty seven to twenty in
Las Vegas tonight on a touchdown run with eight seconds left.
LSU had just tied it on a field goal with
under two minutes to go. Miller Moss three hundred and
seventy eight yards passing and a touchdown. Woody Mark's two
touchdown runs, including the game winner. Remember USC at the
(01:47:31):
end of the first half missed a twenty nine yard
field goal attempt. It looked like that was going to
come back and bite him. Instead, Let's go back to
the very first drive of the game when LSU went
forward on fourth and goal at the three and threw
incomplete and got no points at all.
Speaker 1 (01:47:46):
Out of that drive.
Speaker 4 (01:47:47):
Garrettnsmeyer of LSU did have over three hundred yards passing,
two touchdowns, one late interception, but the Tigers with ten penalties,
including a personal foul for targeting in the final seconds.
Attendance was sixty four thousand, a stadium record. In Vegas tomorrow,
Boston College at Florida State forty nine ers first round.
Wide receiver Ricky Piersall is out of the hospital after
(01:48:08):
being shot yesterday and a robbery attempt in San Francisco.
Scotti Scheffler won the PGA's Tour Championship. Coco goff lost
her fourth round match at the US Open today in
three sets against fellow American Emma Navarro, former NCAA Tennis
champ at the University of Virginia Golf. In the last set,
served eleven double faults nineteen total in the match, tying
(01:48:28):
her career high on the men's side. Francis Tiafua of
the US advance in the WNBA Las Vegas a winner
at Phoenix, Asia Wilson forty one points, seventeen rebounds, no turnovers.
Indiana won at Dallas Caitlin Clark twenty eight points and
Minnesota Beach Chicago, but Angel Reese did have nineteen rebounds
in defeat. NASCAR's regular season ended tonight and the winner
(01:48:51):
of the Southern five hundred is Chase Briscoe, so he
earns the final playoff spot. Kyle Busch finished second and
missed the playoffs. Tyler Roy took the regular season title
the in baseball at Philadelphia, the Phills in eleven innings,
edged the Braves three to two, only one game separating
the Braves from the New York Mets. Now, yes, for
(01:49:12):
the final NL wild Card. The Mets won again two
nothing at the White Sox, and I should say the
White Sox lost again. They went oh and ten on
this homestand that's a record of thirty one and one
oh seven. Now for the White Sox, we've still got
the month to go. The record number of losses in
a Major League season is one twenty by the expansion
(01:49:33):
Mets of nineteen sixty two, who, by the way, finished
sixty and a half games out. Right now, the White
Sox are forty seven and a half behind Cleveland in
their divisions.
Speaker 3 (01:49:43):
Stay amazing.
Speaker 4 (01:49:44):
Arizona whipped the Dodgers fourteen to three, who said, we
are not going to burn our bullpen today. We don't
care who's on the mound. He's staying fourteen three. The
final day lost.
Speaker 1 (01:49:54):
Who makes that decision, Steve is that the GM is
that Dave Roberts, And now we're just gonna take this.
Speaker 4 (01:49:59):
Most decisions like that are made in the front office.
Speaker 1 (01:50:02):
So really, in.
Speaker 4 (01:50:03):
Postseasons past when people have said, why didn't Dave Roberts,
why is he taking out the start? Most of those
are like prefab decisions, yes, and that's why they hired him.
LA Dodgers are first in the NL West, now five
games over the Diamondbacks, and Padres Arizona led eight nothing
in the second inning today. By the way, pitcher Yoshinobu
Yamamoto of LA is due for a second rehab start
(01:50:23):
at Triple A Tuesday last they said, and veteran pitcher
Clayton Kershaw's on the injured list with bonespurs in a tow.
San Diego got a run top of the ninth to
win four to three at Tampa Bay. Baltimore is now
just a half game behind the Yankees for first in
the AL East. The Orioles and Zach Eflin got a
six to one win at Colorado, while the Yankees lost
at home fourteen to seven to Saint Louis. That game
(01:50:44):
was seven to seven going to the seventh for the Cardinals.
Jordan Walker five for five. This is a guy who
was batting one forty three in the matrix this year
until today. Cincinnati and eleven inning speed Milwaukee four to three.
Brewers shortstop Willie Adamis had a twenty eighth home run
of the season. Shortstop he has ninety six RBIs. The
(01:51:06):
Cubs are in the wildcard race. They've won six in
a row, fourteen to one. The final at Washington. The
Cubs are only three games out for that last wild
card behind Atlanta. And I must mention pinch hitting for
the Nationals today was Darren Baker, son of the former
manager who was on hand to see it.
Speaker 1 (01:51:23):
Dusty Baker, you're not.
Speaker 3 (01:51:24):
Out of here. When he was running over, We ran
him over, didn't we.
Speaker 4 (01:51:27):
Do You remember the Giants Angels World Series when the
little batboy for the Giants was this kid, Darren Baker.
During play, he accidentally, thinking the play was over to
get the bat, ran in front of home plate while
someone was coming around to score it got pulled out
of the way. In time, that kid has grown up
(01:51:47):
and got his first major Looking six years old, so
you can add twenty plus years.
Speaker 1 (01:51:52):
He is just fine.
Speaker 4 (01:51:53):
Yeah, less than six. At the time, Cleveland and Minnesota
each one. Kansas City lost its fifth in a row.
Seattle was beaten back to you.
Speaker 1 (01:52:00):
Thanks Steve all Right, it's time to hit your tweets.
Best tweets of the night. It's thinking genius Swanham at
Plank Show. Everybody make sure you follow us at Fox
Sports Radio. Randy just hit us up with this, he writes,
y'all are missing out on the Titans. A revamped offensive
line added Calvin Ridley Tyler Boyd to go with Dedre
Hopkins who's about ninety years old Pollard in the backfield,
(01:52:20):
Ladarius Sneid from Kansas City, A massive ad on the
defensive line of three hundred and sixty pound of defensive lineman.
Our defensive coordinators from the Ravens. Caleb Williams is going
down in week one.
Speaker 3 (01:52:32):
Yeah, Titans, I am missing out on Thembers.
Speaker 2 (01:52:35):
I actually think it's gonna be Houston winning the division
followed by Jacksonville or at least fight it out Uston
in jacksonvilleals tendency even close to one or two, so
at best three maybe better.
Speaker 3 (01:52:47):
Than the Colts.
Speaker 2 (01:52:47):
So no, I don't think it's going to be a
good year for the Titans. Maybe, you know, if he
thinks they're going to make a playoff rum as they
can take more than one team or two teams from
a division.
Speaker 3 (01:52:57):
But I don't think that's that will happen.
Speaker 1 (01:52:59):
They can't take more than one or two teams that
they can they can. Oh, okay, I'm sorry. Darryl writes Plank,
You're hilarious. You don't believe in Denver winning six games
with Sean Payton, but you believe in the Raiders winning
almost half their games with Antonio Piers at the helm.
How does this work? Other than you're a Raiders fan.
I think that's racist, Daryl. How dare you go against
my guy, Antonio Piers? I mean, when was the last time, Darryl? Darryl,
(01:53:22):
when was the last time the Broncos beat the Raiders?
I'll wait. Wow, here's one from Roger. He writes, the
Chiefs are significantly better on offense. Take the Chiefs at
plus five point fifty to win the Super Bowl the odds.
Speaker 3 (01:53:36):
I don't think five and by the way.
Speaker 1 (01:53:38):
Wow, how are the Chiefs significantly better on offense? Hollywood?
Brown's already heard, Xavier Worthy has already been knocked around.
He had one good highlight. They have Patrick Mahomes. They're fine,
They're not significantly.
Speaker 3 (01:53:54):
It's not good value at five and a half to
one for them this year.
Speaker 1 (01:53:56):
Yeah, no, stop, You're fine, Roger. Do you need to
tell you how great the Chiefs are again? They're great,
You're good. You're not significantly better on offense. You went
out and got a couple of potentially playmaking receivers. As
much as I love Hollywood, Brown dude hasn't been able
to stay on the field. And Xavier Worthy as fast
can he be a complete wide receiver? We're about to
(01:54:17):
find out. Let's see, there was a couple of others
here that I wanted to get to before we got
two carried away, and then I got caught up in
my anger with people trying to tell me that I
should drop direct TV. Brendan writes, I disagree with Furman.
I think the Raiders defense and running game will lead
them to a winning record. Then they'll sign Dak next March.
I do love that. What do you stand with Dak
(01:54:38):
right now?
Speaker 2 (01:54:38):
Because you make the investment in Ceedee Lamb, don't you
have to bring back Dak Prescott? Are you asking me
from the Cowboys point of view? Or I'm thinking about
Dak Prescott's point of view? If I'm thick, Dak Prescott's
point of view. Everything goes into the season. I want
to leave the Cowboys to the division title. I would
love if I get to the super Bowl, but there's
no way I'm coming back to the Dallas Cowboys if
(01:54:59):
they don't give you a new contract before the start
of the season, I'll take less money somewhere else to
get the hell out of here.
Speaker 1 (01:55:05):
I'm done with this.
Speaker 3 (01:55:06):
It's just too much.
Speaker 2 (01:55:07):
They gave him the first contract, they don't want to
give him the second contract. Can't say that I blame him.
I think they're gonna end up separating. I'll end up
going somewhere else.
Speaker 1 (01:55:16):
I mean, you don't have to take less money to
go somewhere else. Arnie, he's gonna run. He's gonna end
up becoming I think, the highest paid player in the
history of the NFL if he's a free agent market
and then Paul Rice. My expectation for the Bills have
been pretty low, but Arnie saying he's going to the
Dolphins Super Bowl parade gave me more hope for winning
the division.
Speaker 2 (01:55:34):
Yeah, I'm gonna have to start putting in asking for
my time off. I'll put in something a single year. No, no,
this year, I feel really good about it this year.
Speaker 1 (01:55:42):
Great when we come back to the tire rack dot
Com studios Arnie's picks. What a better way to take
the show off the rails next than to wrap it
up with what are you in college right now? Three
and twelve? Three?
Speaker 3 (01:55:56):
I am three and eleven in college?
Speaker 1 (01:55:58):
Ah, three and eleven. We'll get to those next. Right
here on Fox Sports Radio, It's Arnie and Plank on
a Fox Sports Sunday as we are heading down the
home stretch. Great job, Mary, awesome job running the show. Patrick,
goodkid man.
Speaker 2 (01:56:14):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:56:14):
The only regret to have about our Kien Hudson conversation
we didn't ask how that felt with the targeting shot
that he took on arguably the biggest catch of the game.
He had a more spectacular catch. But we got to
talk to Kyen Hudson Tonight, Big night for USC They
won a twenty seven to twenty over LSU Diseger obviously
(01:56:35):
killing it on the updates and thanks to the millions
and millions of editors behind the scenes who helped make
this show possible. All Right, Arnie, the picture have been terrible.
I'm sure you're gonna tell us this is where you
turn it around.
Speaker 2 (01:56:46):
So of course, it's the first week of the NFL. Chris,
give me a break here, we're just starting now.
Speaker 1 (01:56:51):
Yeah, I'm of college football. Yeah, wow, lion.
Speaker 2 (01:56:57):
You know, why don't you give you a little good music?
Put me in the mood you know you play all
this blowne music. Give me something Mary, put me in
the moody or I am three and eleven in college
right now?
Speaker 1 (01:57:08):
I got you?
Speaker 3 (01:57:13):
How about playing.
Speaker 1 (01:57:15):
All right?
Speaker 3 (01:57:16):
Let me get to my picks.
Speaker 2 (01:57:20):
I feel good though, I'm ready to turn it around. Yeah,
but this, this is it, Chris, this is it. I
could I feel so good about it.
Speaker 3 (01:57:31):
I'm gonna do.
Speaker 2 (01:57:32):
Something special in the NFL. I'll get to that in
a second. Let me get to college. Three and eleven
in college I would take BYU plus eleven and a
half on the road at SMU. I can't help myself.
I took Texas minus six and a half in Michigan.
Speaker 3 (01:57:45):
Is that crazy or what?
Speaker 2 (01:57:47):
I also have Iowa minus two and a half against
Iowa State. I go like Tennessee. Yeah, they impressed me.
I'll lay the seven against NC State. I'm taking your sooners, Chris,
lay in twenty seven and a half against it that's it.
Speaker 3 (01:58:03):
It's a cooperator. Should they not or what?
Speaker 1 (01:58:05):
Yeah? They might put fifty one on them.
Speaker 3 (01:58:07):
Oh special number.
Speaker 2 (01:58:08):
One and my last pick Appalachian State plus seventeen against Clemson.
Don't want the seventeen, don't need the seventeen. I'll think
the seventeen. They will beat Clemson.
Speaker 1 (01:58:19):
If you have a losing record again this week, can
I please take over the college picks next week?
Speaker 3 (01:58:25):
I won't to have a losing record, that's all.
Speaker 1 (01:58:26):
No, I'm just asking, can we make that agreement if
you have a losing record with your college picks, I
take over the college picks.
Speaker 2 (01:58:33):
Why I only have six picks? I have to give
a seventh one? Then make sure I don't finish three
and three.
Speaker 1 (01:58:38):
Just come up with one during the week. Are you
willing to make that bet? Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:58:41):
Yeah, absolutely absolutely. Let me get the Week one of
the NFL, would you please? I like Baltimore plus the
three against Kansas City. I love the three points. I
would have take foot off you're late in the three
against Green Bay. Give me Buffalo late in the six
against Arizona by two touchdowns. Love Cincinnati minus against New England.
(01:59:05):
I'll take the Giants plus one against Minnesota. I'm all
over the Saints minus four against Carolina.
Speaker 1 (01:59:11):
I like that a lot, love And by wait, by
the way, that line's that line is four and a half?
What I say? Four? Four? Are you fudging lines? What
do you have is the Eagles line? Three? Okay, all right,
I gotta start line checking you now because I don't
I don't know if you're being one hundred percent honest
with you. What do you have with the Ravens and
the Chiefs?
Speaker 2 (01:59:32):
The Ravens I took three, I can't. Yeah, it took
three Atlanta. I'm gonna lay three against Pittsburgh, all right,
all over Miami minus three and a half against Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (01:59:43):
I'm gonna take the Chargers minus three three.
Speaker 1 (01:59:46):
I'll give you a break there, it's only three.
Speaker 3 (01:59:48):
Wy'll change by the time we get the Thursday or whatever.
Speaker 1 (01:59:50):
But oh, that's right, none of this matters because you
change all your picks in the middle of the same. Look,
I like, the Chargers, are you going to tonight or not?
Speaker 3 (02:00:00):
What are you even going to? The windows?
Speaker 7 (02:00:01):
Like?
Speaker 1 (02:00:01):
Here are you? Are you submitting these bets tonight?
Speaker 9 (02:00:04):
You're like, no, no, I won't way, no, I'm gonna
they'll be Thursday, and I like San Francisco minus three
and half against the Jets.
Speaker 2 (02:00:14):
I love my can't lose three team parlay Philadelphia, Buffalo
and San Francisco. So there you have my picks, two
of them, as you please. No longer strictly for entertainment
purposes only.
Speaker 1 (02:00:27):
Yeah, here's all my picks. I'm gonna change the ball.
Next week is number.
Speaker 2 (02:00:31):
The numbers change a little bit, give me a break.
I can't go by today's numbers, gotta go by the
weekend numbers. This is the moment, though, you're making the picks.
But now, Alarnie, when's the show?
Speaker 1 (02:00:42):
The show is today? The shows today, and then you're
gonna change everything if the numbers fit what you want.
I think, No, no, not.
Speaker 3 (02:00:49):
Sometimes I lose out on the numbers.
Speaker 1 (02:00:51):
No, no, I've never seen that. Well, you lose out
period whenever you're three and eleven eleven. Give me a
break here, Good luck, have a great week. Every the
NFL is back. I hope, I hope everyone has a
great Labor Day week. Instaground Big Ben Mallor is coming
up next. Arnie and I will be back next Sunday
night to recap week one of the NFL season right
here on Fox Sports Radio
