Speaker 1 (00:01):
Are you ready to witness quotas college fans? Welcome to
the biggest tailgate party in the nation. Fox Sports Radios
Countdown to Kickoff, presented by Bett MGA the gig of sportsbook.
We're setting you up with the information you need to
(00:21):
watch your team with.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
We're here to break it all down.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
This is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by
Bett Mgina. No, we're lyve from your tailgame. Here's Brian No,
former Penn State All American, Rich Wornberger and Pixwive's lead
Betty analyst Jared Smith.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Oh what is going on?
Speaker 4 (00:47):
Happy Saturday to you as we get you all set
for a fullse late of college football. And I'll tell
you what, It's not just preview mode, it's review mode
over here. We had a game in Brazil last night,
we had the Thursday night opener with the Chiefs and
the Ravens, and I just wanted to throw it out
(01:08):
there fellas. Good morning to you guys as always, but
I didn't want to start off on a negative note.
So we'll start positive very quickly and then unfortunately transition
to the negative. Here Saquon Barkley's debut with the Eagles.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
Three touchdowns, two rushing, one receiving. He rushed for one
hundred and nine yards. He was fantastic in his debut.
But what's crazy is what grabbed the headlines was the
injury to Jordan Love. As Isaac Lohenkron said just a
minute ago in his update, Jordan Love with the left
(01:44):
leg injury looked like a nee to me, and they're
flying back. He's going to get an MRI, see what
his status is. But if he's down for an extended
period of time, you've got Malik Willis. You've got the
Malik Willis experience over there. So it's one thing to
lose a game, no crime to lose to the Eagles
in Brazil, but they might have lost their season if
(02:07):
Jordan Love is hurt for a long period of time.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
That's how crazy things can change like that.
Speaker 5 (02:12):
Yeah, that could could be about it if they end
up without Jordan Love. And by the way, this is
as true for the Packers as it is for most
NFL teams. Your quarterback is everything. Your quarterback is your season.
So if you lose your quarterback, you're you're pretty toast
(02:32):
and green.
Speaker 6 (02:33):
Bay.
Speaker 5 (02:34):
I mean, unless they can pull a rabbit out of
their hat, you know, a lah the Cleveland Browns last year,
where they were just shuffling quarterbacks in and out of there.
They couldn't keep a starting quarterback healthy or I guess,
you know, involved enough in what they wanted to do
offensively that they kept moving on from you know, the
next to the next to the next.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
It it It's.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
Gonna be a tough season because there are very few
teams who can agate a season and have success that way.
We'll wait and see what happens with the imaging on
Jordan Love's lower leg, like you said, kind of looked
like a knee.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
I would agree with that.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
I guess we shouldn't speculate, but we'll see and they'll
move on from there. But that is the last thing
you wanted to have happen playing this international game is
come home with a significant injury.
Speaker 7 (03:25):
Yeah, the good news is and by the way, the
field conditions were brutal last night. I don't understand why
the NFL can't figure out field conditions for some of
these big games. We saw it the Eagles in the
Super Bowl two years ago in Arizona in a covered surface,
and this I think. I don't know if it was
covered or not, but either way, terrible field conditions last night.
(03:47):
And I don't know if that played a factor or not,
but it certainly didn't help, that's for sure. The next
four games, actually five games for green Bay I think
are winnable. And I'm not saying I like, let's say
it is a month Jordan Love is out or however
long period of time. They can still tread water.
Speaker 6 (04:07):
Right.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
They've got the Vikings at home.
Speaker 7 (04:09):
Titans, Colts at home, a tough game at the Rams,
but you know, not a big home field advantage in LA.
And then you get Arizona at home in week six.
Then you get a really tough game against Houston in
week seven. So the next five weeks for green Bay
it's not Murderer's Row. Does that mean Milik Willis can
get the job done if he's called upon.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
I don't want to put my money there.
Speaker 7 (04:32):
But at least it's not Dallas, Philly, Kansas City, Baltimore like.
At least it's the bottom half of their schedule in
terms of opponents and how we expect those opponents to be.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Of course, who knows, maybe the Colts and the Titans
come out this.
Speaker 7 (04:48):
Week and look fantastic, but projecting ahead, they're favored in
those games.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
If Jordan Love is less than one hundred percent, they'll
still be favored in those games.
Speaker 7 (04:57):
If Malik Willis is the guy who plays, they won't
be favored in those games.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
But at least it.
Speaker 7 (05:02):
Won't be looking up at Patrick Mahomes looking up at
CIJ Stroud, at least not for a few weeks. So
it not the ideal start, but at least not a
disaster based on the first month.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Of teams that Green Bay will face.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
Yeah, and that's the crazy thing is you play the
if game in football where the Eagles they were trying
to go for the tush push, the brotherly shove again,
which is not quite what it once was without Chason
Kelcey right there, But they tried to on the previous
drive go for the tush push and there was a
(05:35):
fumbled snap. And if Saquon Barkley doesn't recover the fumble,
the Packers only need a field goal to take the lead,
Right Like, if the Packers recover that fumble, if they
only need a field goal, it's a completely different situation.
And Jordan Love probably isn't in the same position trying
(05:55):
to buy time to throw the ball deep down field, right, Like,
that's what blows my mind. And Jalen Carter, it wasn't
a dirty play. You just like wrapped them up around
the leg and the knee just went inward. I just
pray it's not a ligament, because I hear you, Jared.
If this is a month, they could tread water. But
if this is anything longer than that, this is your season.
(06:19):
And this is a team that had high hopes. They
were neck and neck with the Niners on the road
in the divisional round of the playoffs, and so this
was a team that had real hope to make significant
strides this season. And Richie bring up the Browns. I
hear you with Joe Flacco coming off the couch, and
that's a team that scratched their way into the playoffs.
(06:40):
And then they got rolled forty five to fourteen against
the Houston Texans as Flaco's throwing pick sixes.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
You know, like even if.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
Malik Willis is in there for an extended period of
time or they signed someone off the street and crazier
things have happened, They're not doing anything in the playoffs,
they're not making significant strides without Jordan love their I
just pray the guys okay.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Injuries are the worst.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Man.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
I absolutely hated seeing him go down in that situation
where it's just sort of a fluke injury. You're looking
for a hail Mary. I started thinking when he completed
the long pass to get him to midfield. I'm like,
is this Rogers again, We're gonna see a moon ball
and a hail Mary. And then it's the complete opposite
with the Fluke injury.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Terrible, man, terrible, terrible.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
And then you look at the other side of the
field where Saquon Barkley that was. That was kind of
what the Ravens were hoping Derek Henry would look like
in their offense, you know, when they signed him this
offseason for the Baltimore Ravens, and I know we want
to get to that game as well, but focusing on
Philadelphia's offense with Saquon, I mean, that really was a
(07:47):
smart signing. It feels like he's found his home. It
feels like if Saquan stays healthy now that's been a
huge question mark all throughout his NFL career. Now since
he's left State but when he's healthy, he's one of
and he has established himself as one of the best
skilled position players in the NFL, and he can aid
(08:10):
this offense in ways that very few players can. He
can get hard yards behind a bad offensive line while
he's playing behind a pretty good offensive line, so he's
gonna get more.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
You know.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
He can beat you with speed on the outside. He
can be dangerous if he makes the last man miss
on an interior run. He's a chunk play type player
in the NFL, and it doesn't matter where you start
with the football. Saquon can shorten up a football field
for you in a blink of an eye. So that's
(08:43):
gonna be an explosive offense, especially when you remember it's
not just him.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
They have help at tight end.
Speaker 5 (08:49):
They have help on the edges with Devonte Smith and
AJ Brown and Jalen Hurts is no slouch at quarterback.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
We've seen him.
Speaker 5 (08:56):
Play at the highest level of this game and play well,
you know, outside of a fumble in the Super Bowl
against the Chiefs two years ago, he was the best
player on the field. So this this Philadelphia offense just
got a shot in the arm with Saquon Barkley Yeah,
that was the move of the offseason.
Speaker 7 (09:15):
If you recalled John Marra in the I wonder what
John Marra was thinking. I wish I could have watched
the game with John Merraw last night when when the
Giants decided to pass and they knew that the Eagles
were going to get him, and John Meyer is sitting there.
I saw this picture looking, you know, going around where
he's sitting there with this with his hands in his
head and he's just like, what did we do? And
(09:37):
you flash forward a few months later from hard Knocks
and now here we are and it's a reality. And
the Eagles like, if there's one type of player in
his prime. And again I don't know if Sequan is
in his prime. You guys can debate the age and
all that stuff, but he's certainly, if not in his
prime at right at the top or just starting to
come down from it. To give the Eagle offense, which
(10:02):
compared to the Giants offense, it's like JV to Varsity
to give them that type of player in free agency
for an expensive price tag.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
He's an expensive luxury toy. But to just let him walk.
Speaker 7 (10:14):
Right, to just let him walk down the turnpike right,
to Philly and then for him to play like that
in Week one was a statement they are going to
give this man the ball as much as he can
carry it, and they are gonna milk every drop out
of him.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
And as you said, Brian, it was either you were rich.
Speaker 7 (10:33):
The other weapons are just incredible, but you throw a
guy like that that the Eagles have not had during
this run. They've had some good running backs in this run,
they haven't had a guy that has the ability of
Saquon Barkley.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
This guy is the limit.
Speaker 7 (10:47):
And you saw it early and it was a little bit,
you know, dis jointed the first quarter the field Ginnisons
were bad. Then they got into a rhythm. Jalen hurt
frankly didn't look that good. But the complement of weapons
they have with a player like Barkley and then Kellen Moore,
who I think can bring it all together. I mean,
it's this is why I bet Sheai Kwan twin o boy.
(11:08):
This is why I bet Jalenherds to win MVP. This
is why I think the Eagles are going to the
super Bowl because I just don't know. If there's an
offense in the NFL period, maybe the Chiefs if they
get Hollywood Brown and Zavir Worthy back.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Goodness gracious, that just scares the Jesus out of me.
Speaker 7 (11:21):
But this offense is I think the highest ceiling offense
in the league right now.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
If they can all if they bring it all.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Together, Okay, we got to speed it up over here.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
We gotta go hurry up offense because we got to
get to the Thursday night game, Chiefs beating the Ravens
twenty seven to twenty.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Here's the deal, because I was thinking, if.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
You used one word to describe Lamar Jackson's performance, what
word would you use?
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Because it was.
Speaker 8 (11:47):
A blend of great play, or he rushes for one
hundred and twenty two yards on sixteen carries the final drive,
there was an injury to a Chiefs line and the
commentators were like, this isn't a bad thing altogether, right,
It gives them a chance to rest because they're trying
to take chase around this cheetah that's.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Lamar Jackson out there. He was unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
And then the game is on the line and he's
got to make the throw. Isaiah Likely's open on the
left corner of the end zone, misses him. Zay Flowers
is wide open, no one is around him. He throws
to a covered Rashad Bateman and it's incomplete. That's the
type of stuff. So the one word I would use
is complicated, where it's like your relationship status on Facebook,
(12:37):
It's complicated. That's the way it is with Lamar Jackson,
where he gives you this dynamic highlight ability at times,
and then when he's got to be precise as a
passer and make the throw, he doesn't make it, and
the Ravens came up short again, and we could look
(12:57):
at Isaiah likely and the toe being out of bounds
and what if. And I think the question is this,
if the Ravens scored a touchdown somehow, some way, and
they're going for two, and let's say Lamar's got to
throw it, do you trust him to make the throw,
make the play, they score the two, and they win
the game. And my answer is no, because we've seen
(13:20):
it time and time and time again where those precise
throws are just not made.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
If I were to describe Lamar Jackson's performance in a
single word.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
It would be typical.
Speaker 5 (13:33):
That is a typical Lamar Jackson performance, some great, some
really bad, and the spectrum is wide with him. The
great stuff is great. Yeah, when he carries the football,
he's explosive. When he decides to take off and run,
and this is the NFL, he makes other NFL football
players look like they're standing still.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
He's an explosive athlete.
Speaker 5 (13:57):
However, he had who misses, and one may be at
the goal line going in to win the game. If
Tom Brady is throwing that football, does he miss likely
on the corner route?
Speaker 2 (14:09):
The answer is no.
Speaker 5 (14:11):
That's Peyton Manning or Patrick Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers or
any of the greatest quarterbacks we've seen play football who
have won two MVPs or have won Super Bowls.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Do they miss that corner rout? The answer is no.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
You know, if it's Patrick Mahomes or even Josh Allen
or Joe Burrow scrambling to their right and they're looking
for their receiver in the back of the end zone,
do they miss a wide open receiver in the back
of the end zone with a bad throw?
Speaker 2 (14:38):
The answer is.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
No, he connected with likely likely stepped out of bounds,
but that's burying the lead. He missed two wide open
touchdowns before that, and so Lamar Jackson is that guy
when you have to rely on his arm, he's unreliable.
So he does all the amazing stuff, but he can't
clutch up against the best teams, against the best quarterbacks
(15:01):
in the league. So he's gonna win a lot of
MVPs in his career. But until they clean that up,
they're not gonna win a lot of Super Bowls with him.
Speaker 7 (15:07):
I didn't think they're going to win one, period. I
think unreliable. That's a really good word that you used, Rich,
more turnover worthy plays than big time throws, holding the
ball for over three seconds, and again that it works
for Lamar because he can make magic. But what that
tells me when your time to throw raid is over
(15:28):
three seconds, it tells me that you are not confident
in the first read, in the second read, and probably
the third read, and you're just waiting to get to
that moment where you can be the superman. And he
didn't make the throws. There's really nothing else to say
besides when the time came to make the throws, he
(15:49):
didn't make the throws.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
And that has always been the story with Lamar.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Yeah, it has been.
Speaker 4 (15:56):

(17:43):
So look at Texas at Michigan. This has got to
be my favorite quote of the college football season so far.
Remember when Georgia Tech upset Florida State in Ireland and
they were interviewing the Georgia Tech head coach right after
the game on ESPN and Brent Key said, this.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Run the ball, run the ball.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
And that's to me what it comes down to with
Michigan today. If they can't get the better of Texas's
defensive line. If Donovan Edwards isn't running the ball like
the previous week against Fresno State, this game is a
freaking rap. I just don't see how Michigan's passing game
(18:27):
is going to be able to match points.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
If they're not able to run the ball.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
They've got to be able to control the line of
scrimmage better than they did last week, or I just
don't see how they match points with Texas. I think
Texas is too lethal. I Respectgan Michigan's defense, but Michigan's
offense has got to be able to run the ball
better or this game could get ugly.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely could. Texas obviously without their star running
back CJ. Baxter, who was out before the start of
the year, and Michigan with one of the best defensive
lines in the country. It all goes away in terms
of like having an edge on one area of the
(19:08):
playing field if you cannot control the tempo of the
game at all. Look, some of the best passing teams
in the world are also at times featuring their run game.
And it's because what happens to good teams, or should
say what happens to good passing teams well, when you
play a good passing team. You focus all week because
(19:29):
you only get a week to prepare for each team
on how we stop this great quarterback or this great
passing attack that you're facing. Well, you do that, and
what you do is you avail yourself the opportunity to
be taken advantage of on the ground. And if Michigan
can't do this, this could be a long, hard day
for them.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (19:50):
Really, and I'm already starting to see a little bit
of money come in actually on Michigan this morning. Actually,
this line is starting to creep down under that key
number of seven. And I looked at the spread from
the summer and it was Texas lay in three. So
some of the shops over the summer they will open
games of the year, you know, the key games, and
(20:10):
you'll get a chance to really bet into this college
football market. Usually college football lines don't show up until
a week before, but these did. And Texas was a
short favorite on the road. Now they're a bit of
a longer favorite.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
I didn't like what I saw from Texas offense last week.
I'll be honest.
Speaker 7 (20:29):
I think arch manning Man when he came into the game,
you saw a lot more buzz than when Quinn Ewers
was in there, I think the stadium really responded to
him as well. I do really like the receiver group though.
Ryan Wingo, the true freshman, flashed. Matthew Golden had two touchdowns.
You had the Bama transfer Isaiah Bond also scored. The
run game not great. That was the biggest surprise for me,
(20:50):
not getting push against Colorado State's front.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
They're gonna get less pushed this week against Michigan.
Speaker 7 (20:57):
Michigan's defense last week, and I know it's not gonna
get talked about because it's you know, the offense is
what's gonna draw a lot of attention.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
Michigan's defense last week.
Speaker 7 (21:06):
Looked almost as good, if not right there with what
we saw last year. They held Fresno State to nine
yards rushing. They were top five in every single category
you could possibly be in the top five.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
The front seven was fantastic.
Speaker 7 (21:17):
Josiah Stewart flashed, the All American Bill Johnson had a
pick six. In the secondary, the Maryland transfer Bram.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
Looked really good. I mean, they just have guys at
every single level.
Speaker 7 (21:28):
How can Texas with that receiver group, which I think
can spread Michigan out a little bit. Can they attack
down the field Michigan, that's the whole name of the game.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
We'll warn the quarterback for Michigan looked just awful last week.
Speaker 7 (21:40):
Outside of the tight end Colston Loveland, they don't have
a lot offensively. Donovan Edwards needs to find the hole
two and a half yards per carry, less than two
yards after contact. This is a guy that thrives with
the yak. I know it's not catching it, but you
get the point. After contact this is when he usually
does well. But he's not seen the hole in the
Michigan offenses rading a lot of pieces out from last
(22:02):
year's team, So I think that's the key for Michigan.
Can they establish a run against the Texas front that hey,
Colorado State justin Marshall two point two yards before first.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
Contact last week.
Speaker 7 (22:11):
That means the Colorado State offensive line was getting pushed
against the Texas defense. And we'll see if that is
a factor this week. I think that will be key.
You're gonna have to see Texas stop the run. They're
going to commit to the run because Warren can't do anything.
But I think it's all about Michigan's running game. Can
they find anything down the field and can they get
that push and can Texas pushed the ball down the
(22:33):
field because Michigan's secondary at times has looked balky, but
last week that Michigan. I think Michigan defense is of
the four units, the best unit on the field based
off of what I analyzed this week.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
It sounds like you're analyzing a lot there, Jared, my.
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Moments unloaded the notes on that one right there. But
I hear you, and that's real fast. Why the total
has ticked down. What you explained right there is Missigan's
defense has looked fantastic. I know it's just one game,
but it was evident right now, step up in offense
from Fresno State to Texas. What Michigan will face today,
(23:11):
that's obvious. But Michigan's offense, good lord, and they're going
up against a much tougher defense in Texas today. That
defensive line is nasty. So I can understand why the
total has ticked down as many as four points.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Throughout the week.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
But whose total is ticking up is a guy named
Isaac Lowen Kron. Okay, if the book makers said it
at say like sixty and a half, best believe by
next Saturday, it's going to be around sixty seven and
a half. We're expecting fireworks here. I low with the latest.
Speaker 11 (23:41):
I indeed exceptional progress on that curve. Unfortunately, Green Bay
Packers fans hoping for exceptional healing progress this morning, as
their quarterback Jordan Love appeared to injure his lower left
leg of the final seconds of Friday Nights thirty four
to twenty nine lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in South Plo, Brazil.
(24:03):
No word yet on the status of Love's injury. The
Packers are currently flying back from Brazil as we speak
right now. They are actually over the Bahamas, by the way.
They are scheduled to land back in Green Bay at
approximately twelve thirty Eastern time this afternoon. It's a nine
hour and fifty five minute flight. But on the bright side,
(24:25):
at least they can start using Twitter again anyway. In
the game, Saquon Barkley ran for one oh nine and
scored three touchdowns, including two on the ground, in his
Eagles debut. Aj Brown caught five passes for one hundred
and nineteen yards, including a sixty seven yard touchdown pass
from Jalen Hurts. In Major League Baseball on Friday night
at the Cleveland Garden. I know better than this, Sorry, Rich, yep,
(24:48):
let me try that again, yep.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
In three to one.
Speaker 11 (24:52):
In Major League Baseball on Friday night, THEUS San Diego
Padres preceeded They're twenty twenty four World Series Championship.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Who's writing this copy?
Speaker 11 (25:05):
Rich is with a five to one victory over the
over the San Francisco Giants. Manny Machado hit two home
runs to tie Nate Colbert's franchise record for home runs
in a Padre uniform at one sixty three. Also elsewhere,
way elsewhere, Rich. On Friday night, the Cleveland Guardians to
(25:26):
beat to the Los Angeles Dodgers three to one, despite
Shojeo Toddi's forty fifth home run. A's over the Tigers
seven to six. Seth Brown of the A's the game
winning RBI single in the bottom of the thirteenth inning
after he tied it with a two run home run
in the bottom of the eleventh inning. And earlier on
Friday night, the New York Mets with a six to
four victory over the Cincinnati Reds in ten innings. The Mets,
(25:49):
on an eight game winning streak, fellas I humbly turned
the proceedings back to you.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
Thank you, i LO.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
It is Fox Sports Radios Campdown to Kickoff, presented by
Bett MGM. How about another game that we have circled today,
shout out to the Midwest. Huh h Iowa State against
twenty first ranked Iowa. I love this stat. So last season,
Iowa's offense.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Not not the greatest. You know, been well documented.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Twelve of Iowa's fourteen games last season went under the total. Okay,
these games went under because they've played great defense and
the offense left a lot to be desired. Guess what
through one game this season, one to oh to the
over because Iowa throttled Illinois State. Yes, FCS whatever, but
(26:36):
they throttled them forty to nothing, so they covered the
total on their own. So we're one to oh to
the over so far with Iowa Iowa this season now
not a high total today it's at thirty five against
the Cyclones. But what are you looking at in this one, Rich, Well.
Speaker 5 (26:52):
What I'm looking at is to see if we could
see a continuation of the second half offense we saw
from Iowa, because if if you were paying close attention
to that game, things looked just like they did last
year with the new offensive coordinator Lester out there. That
was a one hundred and twenty seven yard five punt.
I believe it was two turnover on downs. It was
(27:15):
inert Their defense was suffocating, but their offense looked completely dead.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
And then they exploded in the second half with thirty
four points. So who the hell is this team?
Speaker 5 (27:28):
I don't know finished the game with four hundred and
ninety two yards of offense after only totally one hundred
and twenty seven yards as I mentioned in the first half.
I can tell you this, Iowa State's gonna have some trouble.
They lost their star linebacker Bacon last week, and if
(27:49):
I was shows up in the first half like they
finished the second half against Illinois State, this could be
a brand new Hawkeye brand of football.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
This could be the year where the the.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
Hawkeys finally step out of the seller of the FBS
and say, hey, guys, we figured out how to how
to play on the offensive side of the ball.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Let's let's talk about that playoff.
Speaker 5 (28:12):
Thingy that everybody's been talking about over the past decade.
Speaker 7 (28:15):
At playoff thingy majigh. So when I looked at the
Iowa offense. Last week, the weakest of all of the
levels was the offensive line.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
And it's just my mind boggling. I mean, usually it's
the exact opposite. It's all push up front and no skill.
It was it was it was robust.
Speaker 7 (28:34):
I think that's the word that I've you know, been
tossed around this week by you know, some of the
people who I trust. Is the scheme is a little
more robust. They're using play action, they're using motion. I
mean these are very you know, modern concepts that you know,
Iowa hasn't been using up until very very recently. Cade
McNamara looked a little healthier. He didn't have a gigantic
(28:55):
cyborg knee brace. It was more of a you know,
a normal looking knee brace. He moved around a little bit,
He ran around a little bit.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
They've got some they've got some talent on offense. Reese Vandersey,
a freshman receiver.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
He's emerging.
Speaker 7 (29:07):
You've got the tight end Leashe who's a weapon. The
running back room has Dudes Maulton, Johnson Williams. Again, all
of the rushing yards were coming after first contact, so
that the offensive line didn't really play that well. Defensively
for Iowa it's about as expected. I think that's where
(29:28):
they're gonna make their hey this year. As good as
the offense is, it's the Iowa State offense that really
concerned me. Abu Samba, the running back, only five carries
in the opener against North Dakota. I think you're gonna
see him get a much heavier workload. I don't know
what to make of Rocko Beck yet, the quarterback. I
think Iowa States defense, as you mentioned, Rich, that's the
scary part. You got injuries all over the field. Carson
(29:50):
Willich he tore his ACL out for the year, Caleb
Bacon out indefinitely. Will McLoughlin he didn't play in Week one,
out again this week. I mean, these are like all
the lineback and the strong safeties and like all the
major tacklers for Iowa State are all dealing with injuries.
So I think that's the problem for Iowa State. For
Iowa they could continue to play at this level of offense.
(30:11):
I mean, goodness, gracious, sky's the limit.
Speaker 4 (30:13):
I'll tell you what, man, you guys, especially you Rich,
and these words, I give you credit. Man, I do
because I looked up inert now you've busted out you know,
three four syllable words over here on us, but lacking
the power to move, very slow, to move or act sluggish.
It's a great word to describe Iowa's first half offense.
(30:36):
You guys probably saw all the memes and all the
tweets and just getting clowned and the next thing, you know,
it's an offensive explosion in the second half. But I'm
just curious, Rich, did you have some like English classes
or what is it?
Speaker 2 (30:49):
You have a fascination with words. You do a great job.
Speaker 4 (30:52):
I'm not banging on you at all. This is I'm
curious what stream you're fishing in over here.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
Okay, So I'm a product of my upbringing a little bit.
My dad is a high school educated guy, blue collar
worker his entire life, earned his ged just so he
could get a union job. But he was an avid
reader and one of the smartest people I know. He
(31:18):
just knows a little bit about everything and a lot
about certain things.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
But one thing that we did every single night in the.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
Wrenburger household outside of you know, going to you know,
the lacrosse games, in the football games growing up, As
we sat down for a dinner and my Dad never
pulled any punches in terms of word choice, so he
would he would lay these polysyllabic words on us, and
I would be sitting there scratching my head like, all right,
(31:45):
what does that mean?
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (31:46):
I get like I couldn't even figure out some of
the words he used in context. And uh, and so
I digress. I mean he was, he was, He was
a smart guy. And I guess I the apple fell
closer to the tree on that one. Here's the one
thing I wish I had a little bit more of.
He was more concise than me. I can really run
on with my stories. You know me too? Yeah that
(32:10):
in comment I'm sure be No is sitting there like, hey,
you know, uh, this is a team sport and I
haven't touched the ball in about seven minutes.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Yeah, but yeah, that's.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
Jack up some shots, Brian, come on hard.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Like the James sing it to you right now.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
It does remind me of you know, the NBA commentator
Mark Jones. Oh yeah, right, jup, Mark Jones. I don't
know if this will explain it, but he was waxing
poetic about Lebron. He'll throw out some longer words too
all the time.
Speaker 12 (32:41):
Here's Mark Jones, the indomitable and extrable, invariable force that
it's Lebron James right. It's like hold On and Seinfeld
th a lot at us right here. But yeah, it
reminds me of the Remember the old red stripe commercial.
Every now and then, Rich, you'll have a word, and
it reminds me of this here.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
Proposing rights today.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Remember that it was a commercial right.
Speaker 3 (33:12):
There, MVP drop episode right here.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
Yeah, we've got Rich Arnberger, that wordsmith from Penn State,
all American. Jared Smith FSR, betting analyst. I'm Brian No
coming up next. Jared's been in the lab. He's cooked
up a parlay platter. He'll unveil it right around the corner.
It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by BETMGM.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
It is Fox.

(33:56):
ten twenty this morning, So in about a half hour
we'll get to Seamus McGee from bed MGM. Get you
all the Vegas insights, all that good stuff.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
First though, it's dive into this.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
Check this out our late ladder.
Speaker 4 (34:11):
Okay, Jared, you've been hard at work. What do you
have for us in the platter today?
Speaker 3 (34:15):
Well, the gloves are coming off this week. Last week
we kind of took a little bit of a swing,
maybe a strike one. Now we are swinging for the
fences here.
Speaker 7 (34:25):
We're putting three money line underdogs together in a parlay
and this one is a whopper of a payout.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
Let's start get the Oh yeah, maybe not.
Speaker 7 (34:35):
Quite as big of a word as you use, but
I'll pick a wapping right now. Michigan on the money
line at home against Texas. We're starting to see a
little bit of money come in on Michigan this morning.
We saw a lot of money come in on Michigan
earlier in the week. This move from seven and a
half to seven. Now we're starting to see some sixes
pop up in the market. So get this in now
because the price on Michigan is starting to go up
(34:59):
and I love home underdogs, obviously. I love the defense obviously,
top five pretty much across the board last week. We
need to see more from the offense. I hope we will,
or else this BET's gonna lose. The home crowd should
definitely help. I don't love what I saw from the
Texas offense last week, especially a quarterback. And how about this,
This is what pushed me over the edge to bet
on the money line. Here, guys, Derek Jeters honorary captain
(35:21):
today in n Arbor. How could you go wrong with
mister captain l Capy ten of the Yankees being the
honorary captain today for this michigame.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
So we'll put Michigan on the money line. We'll put
Michigan State on the money line.
Speaker 7 (35:35):
They are at Maryland today, a mitton parlay Michigan and
Michigan State. So MSU was up two scores last week,
going in goal to go against Fau and then Aiden
Childs through a weird interception. FAU got back into the
game kept it within a score. But I'm thinking to myself,
how much different is the perception this week? If Michigan
State drives in they win twenty four to three. Something
(35:57):
like that. It's a much different vibe this week around SPARTI.
I don't love this Maryland defense, and I think that's
where Michigan State has a chance because Aiden childs he
will push the ball down the field. And I'll tell
you what, Mike Loxley, head coach of Maryland, does not
do well in these spots historically. Last year they lost
to Northwestern as a fourteen point favorite. They lost at
home to Illinois as a thirteen and a half point favorite.
(36:21):
I think Michigan State, with Jonathan Smith's first Big Ten game.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
As about an eight and a half point underdog.
Speaker 7 (36:27):
They've got a chance to go into College Park today
and pull out a win, so we'll put Michigan State
on the money line.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
Finally, this is a very high variance.
Speaker 7 (36:34):
Game taking plase between two lane and Kansas State two
lane about a touchdown. Foss to call it eight point
underdog here, but again high variants because you get the
two lane head coach John Sumroll. He was the Troy
head coach last year and Kansas State.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
Really worked Troy in that game.
Speaker 7 (36:50):
They won forty two to thirteen, but he brought over
almost his entire staff, so I think They're up to
speed on a good Kansas State prep. And this freshman
quarterback for Tulane, Darien Mensa, in pushing the ball down
the field very aggressive. Last week, obviously they faced Southeast Louisiana.
Not much to wrap your head around there, but this
two lane team has these moments right.
Speaker 3 (37:10):
Last year they went an ole miss.
Speaker 7 (37:11):
They're up seventeen ten and a half without their quarterback
Michael Pratt. They don't have that fear facing these high
major opponents and Kansas State again, I didn't.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
See a whole lot last week. That makes me overly impressive.
Speaker 7 (37:23):
I think Tulane in a high variance game, I want
money lines when I think the underdog is live.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
So Twulane, Michigan State, Michigan.
Speaker 7 (37:30):
These are all touchdown plus underdogs forty three to one.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
Over at bed MGMO, let's go.
Speaker 5 (37:39):
He is making up for some mistime from last week's
parlay platter, that is for sure. I love, I really
do love the Michigan and the Michigan State money line
selections there because, like we were talking about, I do
think that Texas has some strengths, but there are weaknesses
(37:59):
and Michigan's strengths may play well in that game, especially
upfront on the defensive line, slowing down the run game,
putting the game solely in whether it be viewers or
arch Manning's hands, whoever ends up with the ball throughout
the course of that game.
Speaker 2 (38:15):
And then Michigan State. Man, I'll tell you, Coach.
Speaker 5 (38:19):
Smith did a heck of a job with the Beavers
in Oregon State. I went up to Corvallis last season
or two seasons ago, saw them here in San Diego
last season, and Oregon State they played bullyball.
Speaker 6 (38:31):
Man.
Speaker 5 (38:31):
They can push you around, and it's a brand of
football that matches the intensity of the Big Ten perfectly.
I know everybody's in the spread, but the game is
still won in the trenches, and that has been his
focus as a head coach his entire tenure. So I
think that was a good signing. They may sneak up
on some people early this season.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
Jared, you know, I love you.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
You know it's crazy, Go ahead, rip into me. You know,
I'm having a problem with the first league of this,
you know, you.
Speaker 3 (39:03):
Know like the Michigan leg of it. Wow, I mean
that's my leg. I feel the best about it.
Speaker 4 (39:09):
You know, I loved I didn't I should say I
didn't love Texas's offense, sure, like you're talking.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
About last week.
Speaker 4 (39:16):
But quinn ew Weers still through for two sixty They
still rushed it for a buck ninety and three touchdowns,
you know what I mean. Like, Yeah, Michigan's offense did
nothing against Fresno State. Like they didn't have two hundred
and seventy yards of total offense against the Bulldogs right there.
I'm just I'm worried that they're not gonna be able
to move the ball enough against Texas to be in
(39:38):
line for a win.
Speaker 3 (39:40):
I don't disagree with that analysis at all. That's why
they're a touchdown home doog.
Speaker 7 (39:44):
I think the key is Donovan Edwards and we'll get
We'll come back.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
To Donovan Edwards at some point.
Speaker 7 (39:50):
But that was a that was a big, big I
guess unexpected part of their game last week was the
offensive line not getting push against Fresno State and Michigan
being a negative efficiency in the rushing game.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
That is one hundred percent. That's how they lose this game,
is they can't get a run game on.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
Yeah, I wonder if they stick with Davis Warren, you
know how tied to the hip are they with this quarterback.
We'll get into that as the show goes along. Coming
up right around the corner. This team's offense is scary. Oh,
what's going on? How about a neutral site game, our
last one for a little while. Here, we've got number
(40:28):
fourteen Tennessee at number twenty four NC State. This game
is in Charlotte over here, and I mentioned a few
minutes ago this team's offense is scaries. That would be
the Tennessee Volunteers. Okay, their offense is wide open, you know,
just chuck it around, Let's go for it. Josh Hipel,
(40:50):
he's letting it, letting it all hang out in their
quarterback Nico IAmA Liava, who is a Heisman candidate. He
is a play acre. And NC State's defense left a
lot to be desired last week against an FCS team
in Western Carolina, so their work is more for more
than cut out for themselves against the balls today.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
I love this matchup.
Speaker 4 (41:14):
And if you're into watching offense and creativity and all
that good stuff, Tennessee is the team you want to
pay attention to.
Speaker 5 (41:22):
Yeah, there's no doubt you can look at this spread
and say NC State can cover, though, especially if you
go back and look at the fourth quarter of their
Week one matchup against a lesser opponent.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
They they look good.
Speaker 5 (41:38):
As the game war on, they're starting a new signal caller,
Grayson McCall, the former Coastal Carolina quarterback who threw for
over ten thousand yards and ninety one touchdowns during his
impressive career.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
There, you know.
Speaker 5 (41:54):
So look, he's competent, and he showed it, and as
the game more on, like I said, you could see
the offense start to wake up. So so I do
like Tennessee in this game. I want to make that
very clear, but you could make an argument where the
wolf Pack could keep this game close and potentially potentially
(42:15):
cover what is it now a nine and a half
point spread as it moved yet nine and a half
point spread against Tennessee against volunteers out there hosting them.
Speaker 2 (42:23):
Yeah, it was interesting.
Speaker 7 (42:24):
Both teams last week played FCS opponents. The balls win
was much more impressive because I think there is some
transitive property of football that we could apply here.
Speaker 13 (42:35):
Right.
Speaker 7 (42:35):
So NC State beat Western Carolina by seventeen. Tennessee beat
UT Chattanooga by sixty six sixty nine to three. Both
of those FCS teams Western Carolina UT Chattanooga. If you
look at the FCS ratings, they're both within a field goal.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
Of each other.
Speaker 7 (42:52):
So those are both comparable FCS opponents. Now, of course
they have different quirks, but you do kind of get
the point that Tennessee's win significantly more explosive. Obviously the
defense was better, whereas NC State kind of had their
moments where they played.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
With their food a little bit.
Speaker 7 (43:08):
I really like this Tennessee offense a lot, the tempo,
the explosiveness, the quarterback. In one half, I Malava threw
for over three hundred yards, completed eighty percent of his
passes over eleven yards per attempt.
Speaker 3 (43:19):
I mean, it's just he was he was flawless. I
think the.
Speaker 7 (43:22):
Running back room, the receiver room, like the like. They
have no holes on this offense. The NC State defense,
that's the part of the handicap that concerns me. They
were very average. They were good kind of when they
needed to be, but they were giving up plenty of
open receivers. Western Carolina spread them out. They had over
almost a fifty percent success rate. Tony Gibson, the defensive
(43:44):
coordinator freansis State needs to figure things out right. They
lost Peyton Wilson, their star linebacker from last year, was
drafted in the third round. I think there's there's upside
with this scheme, but I don't know if they have
the right players, and I know I think Tennessee. Man,
if that offense gets for Tennessee, I just don't know
if NC State has the dudes to stop them.
Speaker 2 (44:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (44:05):
That's the weird thing is we're so used to seeing
NC State play stout defense, and it was just like, who.
Speaker 3 (44:12):
Are these guys?
Speaker 4 (44:13):
You know, every now and then in college football, you'll
get that where you're so accustomed to a team doing
something right, like hey, I was just gonna throw it
to tight ends, or Notre Dame does the same thing,
and then all of a sudden, you're like, these tight
ends can't catch what's going on right, Like it would
just be shocking. That's why it was surprising to see
NC State's defense look the way it did and their
(44:34):
secondary is.
Speaker 2 (44:35):
A little shaky. That's not great.
Speaker 4 (44:37):
If you just start to break a game down and say,
our secondary is a little shaky, it's a little suspect
we're going up against Tennessee today, you know, like that's
that's not a great combination, right there. Something else to
keep your eye on. That's kind of fun in this game.
Bruce McCoy, the Tennessee wide receiver. If he scores a touchdown,
you win. You guys, realize this, this was on is
(45:00):
ig Now It's gonna sound funny at first, but then
you're like, oh yeah, it is the nil day and
age where he can shout out a company and have
some sort of promotional deal going on. Here is Bruce McCoy,
the Tennessee wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (45:13):
Check this out, Hey vall Nation.
Speaker 5 (45:15):
If I score a touchdown this week against NC State,
you can head the Moonshine Mountain Cookies on Monday after the.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
Game and get two free cookies. Get two with Brew,
go ball, get two with Brew. Right here? Huh, he
gets into paint, we get some free cookies.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
What do you think Moonshine Cookies.
Speaker 5 (45:32):
It's pretty It is pretty amazing where we're at in
college football.
Speaker 2 (45:37):
Because I remember this is a true story. I was
just having a.
Speaker 5 (45:41):
Conversation in the academic center my freshman year at Penn
State with one of the graduate assistants who was helping
out with academics with either athletics all of athletics or
just with the football team. I can't remember what his
designation was, but I had mentioned and it was like
a one off conversation. Was like, hey, you know what's
(46:03):
going on this weekend? You got anybody coming to town?
Because there was a game weekend. It was a home
game for us in Happy Valley. So I go, yeah, yeah.
I was like, actually, I'm meeting up with family members
I've never met in my life. They've lived in Pennsylvania.
They're like cousins of my dad. I was like, so, yeah,
we're gonna meet up and they want to take me
out for dinner and all this stuff.
Speaker 2 (46:24):
So he goes, oh wow. He's like You're gonna go
out for dinner with them? And I'm like yeah. He
was like, and you say you don't know them? I
go yeah.
Speaker 5 (46:31):
So the next thing I know, I'm being called into
the academic director's office and so I'm sitting down with
this guy named Wally and he's like, hey, Rich. He
was like, I just want to let you know. He
was like, we have to review the story you just told.
Speaker 2 (46:49):
You know. I forget the guy's name, but like we
literally had to.
Speaker 5 (46:54):
I had to review this story with the academic advisor
or the director of academics, so he could write down
that I'm going out with family members that are going
to pay for a meal, and like they had to
send it to their compliance officer with n C double
A to see if somebody could buy me a bowl
of spaghetti and meatballs. It was but that's where we
(47:16):
came from the n C double A for college athletes.
It went from not allowing you to go out with
your your dad's cousins for a bowl of pasta to
now where if Bruce McCoy scores a touchdown against NC State,
get you get two free cookies. Yeah, it's I mean,
(47:37):
we're living it's It feels like an alternate universe.
Speaker 2 (47:40):
It really does.
Speaker 7 (47:41):
Just imagine Rich, You're at Penn State in today's era, playing.
Speaker 3 (47:46):
And the creamery.
Speaker 7 (47:48):
People say, hey, Rich, if Penn State scores three rushing
touchdowns this week, everybody gets a free Peachy Paterno milkshake.
Speaker 3 (47:56):
I mean, it's just like that.
Speaker 7 (47:57):
It's just it's wild how far we've come from that
story to now.
Speaker 3 (48:02):
Crazy stuff.
Speaker 7 (48:03):
I'll be honest, I think when I look at this game,
I like Tennessee.
Speaker 3 (48:06):
More and more of the more that I look at it.
Speaker 7 (48:08):
I really like Iam Malava's prop over when I hear
that number a little later in our propit up segment.
The Tennessee defense also is deserving of some love, just
a ridiculous success rate last week. Other than a garbage
time score in the second quarter, they were pretty much
perfect against Yuchi Chattanooga. Tyree West is the guy to
keep an eye on. He had a huge camp, great
bowl game. This Bowl's defense is I don't want to
(48:31):
say they're as good as the offense. The offense is
why you pay the ticket, but the defense might be
why they end up being in the playoff because if
they can figure out a way to keep Grayson McCall
from pushing the ball down. The fee was not good
in that category last week, two of six with a
turnover worthy throw of on his passes of twenty or
more yards. If they can figure out a way to
bottle that up. NC State doesn't have much of a
(48:53):
running game and this Tennessee defense.
Speaker 3 (48:55):
Flying all over the field.
Speaker 7 (48:57):
Tennessee is a very dangerous team, very very danger your
team because the offense has very eye upside, and I
think the defense is starting to improve and they've got
guys on that side of the ball.
Speaker 4 (49:05):
I'll tell you what, man, we talk about this in betting.
Where you want to be. Uh, you gotta get comfortable
being uncomfortable.
Speaker 2 (49:11):
I'll tell you what. Taking the under in Tennessee prop
bets no, thank you, that's uh, buddy, that's really comfy. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (49:23):
The prop numbers not that high. It's only two fifty.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
Five past it, I know it.
Speaker 4 (49:27):
Some of the receipts props are pretty enticing as well.
Let me throw a different story at you where this
is my favorite Petty story of the week. A lot
of times I don't love Petty. I love Petty in
this situation. Okay, So let me go to a different
game here. Western Kentucky. They're hosting Eastern Kentucky today for
(49:48):
the first time since twenty seventeen. So Western Kentucky is
planning to have a white out, kind of like your
Penn State nitnye Lions. They made it famous, right, like
the team wears white. Everybody in the crowd they're wearing
white shirt to wide out. Well, Eastern Kentucky didn't want
to play ball, okay, so Western Kentucky they tweeted this
out during the week. This tweet is just hilarious. Man,
(50:09):
this is college football to a tea. Check this out,
Western Kentucky wrote. We announced our football team, football game
themes and promotions for the twenty twenty four season on
July tenth, with Saturday's home opener theme a whiteout. Every season,
we wear white helmets, uniforms, and pants for our annual
whiteout game. However, Eastern Kentucky informed us on Tuesday of
(50:33):
this week that they would be exercising their right as
the visiting team to wear white uniforms, thus forcing us
to wear red jerseys on Saturday. Per NCAA rules, both
teams must agree to a uniform switch. We are hoping
e KU would agree to allow us to wear white
on Saturday. As many other opponents have in the past,
(50:57):
we still encourage our fans to show up.
Speaker 2 (50:59):
Be loud, and wear white go tops.
Speaker 4 (51:01):
I love Eastern Kentucky like, oh, you got a little
white out planned.
Speaker 3 (51:05):
Guess what, wear your red jerseys?
Speaker 2 (51:08):
Now what?
Speaker 3 (51:08):
Now?
Speaker 2 (51:09):
I love how petty Eastern Kentucky is. That is beautiful.
Speaker 5 (51:12):
It's uh, It's one of those things that trust me,
coaches never forget. So so this is gonna be I mean,
if if Western Kentucky has anything to say about it.
I mean that whatever the scoreboard maximum can say, I
don't know if it blanks out after ninety nine, Like
they will try to score every single point that they
(51:35):
you know, does it blank out at nine to ninety nine,
They'll try to light that thing up for the entire night.
And then oh, by the way, this then continues on,
like so what a lot of And I don't know
who Eastern Kentucky's coaches, forgive me, but if he's a
younger guy, what happens in coaching is it's a who
you know business, you know, and every once in a
(51:56):
while you piss off the wrong guy and you're looking
for a at some point and he's got buddies, maybe
you don't get that job you're looking for.
Speaker 3 (52:05):
So it's a it's a measured risk, you know.
Speaker 5 (52:08):
Maybe maybe he has some belief that Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky
can go out there and ruin Western's party.
Speaker 2 (52:14):
But that is a funny storyline, man, that is here.
Speaker 7 (52:17):
It is Ericle Walt Wells, Eastern Kentucky head coach, great
former Western Kentucky OC for ten years twelve.
Speaker 2 (52:28):
It is Oh, he's peeing in the punch. Oh my gosh. Yeah, wow,
there's history right there. There's some sour grapes. There was
leaving on bad terms. I don't know what it was.
Speaker 4 (52:40):
Something something, he's in the air. Yes, yes, absolutely thing
happened right there. Hey, be sure to check out the

Speaker 2 (54:15):
All right.
Speaker 4 (54:16):
Our good friend Seamus McGee, team lead of Sports Trading
at bet MGM, he joins us here. Good morning, Seamus.
You know I'm always interested to pick your brain in
terms of line movements. Right what line movement throughout the
week has caught your attempt attention to most where you're like, WHOA,
I didn't see that coming.
Speaker 6 (54:35):
Hey, guys, going to be back the easy one off
the top of my head. It's a big game tonight.
NC State Tennessee. Two weeks ago when this was a
game of the year going into the air, it was
a four Tennessee. Was my four and a half. That
line ballooned up to minus ten for Tennessee and that
there's some buyback down on NC State down there around
(54:58):
nine and a half when we're sitting out, but we're
not really any injuries in the game, and it really
just seems like a ton of just belief in Nico
and this Tennessee team.
Speaker 7 (55:09):
Yeah, I'm noticing the same thing Texas Michigan Seamus Right,
you guys were kind of three to three and a
half all summer and now seven and a half. That
got back down pretty quickly this week. Now we're starting
to see the six and a half's pop back up
across the market.
Speaker 3 (55:24):
I didn't see a six.
Speaker 7 (55:25):
Is that too big of a move or too big
of a buy back through the key number? Do we
think now the next move will be some Texas money
to get this back to a touchdown before kickoff?
Speaker 6 (55:35):
Here, we're still juicing that minus six and a half
up to minus one twenty. I think the line is
probably right at six and a half. Seven and a
half to meet felt like too much in the big house,
But yeah, I think the number will sit there. I
think we need a lot of sharp money to come
in on Texas to get back to a flat seven.
Speaker 5 (55:56):
Okay, is that the most bad game on your serve
is a Texas Michigan game.
Speaker 2 (56:02):
I know there's a good rivalry for the.
Speaker 5 (56:04):
Syhawk Trophy out there in the Midwest with Iowa State Iowa,
But is Texan Texas Michigan?
Speaker 2 (56:11):
Is that the one moving the mark at the most.
Speaker 6 (56:14):
Runaway favorite right now? This is going to be a
huge handle for us. Definitely one of the bigger games
we'll see bet at least up to this point, and
we'll see I'll get the rest of the year, but
definitely a huge one. It's a little annoying because there's
no reason this game shouldn't be under the life at
seven o'clock. The handle would go crazy if that was
the case. But I think another game. I think the
(56:35):
NC State Tennessee game. You know, NC State and Tennessee
are very popular in those states were active. I don't
think it's gonna be as big as Texas Michigan, but
it's certainly going to be up there this week.
Speaker 4 (56:45):
I think if you had the power to make two
or three games go the way you wanted them to go.
What would benefit bet MGM the most? What's on your
waist list over there?
Speaker 6 (56:57):
If we got a low scoring miss Chi can win,
that would be amazing. It's one way. It's been one
way traffic on the long horns for most of the week,
whether it was sharp money or public money. Texas seems
to be a big play. NC State Covering two would
be huge. It's just a ton of Tennessee money, as
(57:19):
you guys can see with that line move this week.
So I think those are the two games we really
need to go our way this week.
Speaker 7 (57:26):
Seamus the Syhawk is always fascinating the under in Iowa.
Iowa State seventeen and two in the last nineteen meetings, but.
Speaker 3 (57:36):
Last I know what I swear, that's a real stack.
Speaker 7 (57:42):
But now right, like a lot of those totals were crazy,
crazy low, this one is actually lower than the average.
Like the average total is about thirty eight to thirty
nine in these games. Now we're seeing thirty five. Actually,
I'm seeing some money on the over.
Speaker 3 (57:58):
Iowa, Stay Iowa, are you getting money on the over?
In this game?
Speaker 6 (58:02):
We went from thirty five and a half to thirty six.
It opened a little high, opened around thirty seven, thirty
eight got met down. Now we're seeing some buyback onto
the over. But I mean I kind of agree with
the move. I would put up points last week. Iowa
State brings the whole offense back from last year, and
I think they can play, So I think I agree
(58:24):
with the move. We're taking majority Iowa money on minus three.
We're probably gonna need Iowa State to cover and win
the game outright would also be big. But no, I
think there could be some points here in this game. Ye.
I could be very wrong. This is an easy undergame,
like you guys said every year, but it's interesting to
see that there's some sharp money going towards the over here.
Speaker 2 (58:46):
Yeah. Actually I agree with you.
Speaker 5 (58:47):
You know, if you look at Iowa State and Iowa's offense,
there's an argument to be made for the over, and
our eyes are just trained on the under over all
these years. I didn't know that stat, but seventeen and
two over the last over the last nineteen matchups.
Speaker 2 (59:04):
Going to the under is ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (59:06):
Hey, going back to the overs, you said you would
like a nice low total in a Michigan win in
the Wolverines Longhorns game.
Speaker 2 (59:13):
How about this Colorado Nebraska game.
Speaker 5 (59:15):
I was going through the schedule and I'm like, the
over has got to be hammered on this game. A
lot of excitement about Nebraska's offense with the new quarterback
Matt Rules offense, and then obviously Colorado's allergic to playing
defense and you know they score a whole bunch of points.
Speaker 2 (59:31):
Are people hammering the over in that one?
Speaker 6 (59:34):
So it's mainly been play on the spread and the money.
It's a lot of Colorado money linebackers. It seems like
if people are betting Colorado, they think they're just going
to win the game to the point where it's gotten
right now as it stands. Yeah, this is a late night,
late night kickoff, so anything can happen between now and then.
But it's a lot of Nebraska minus six and a
half minus seven and in Colorado money. So I think
(59:56):
the best result there would be a low scoring Colorado.
Speaker 7 (01:00:00):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:00:01):
But yeah, I mean there has been too much action
on the total. But if there is, it's going on
the over all.
Speaker 2 (01:00:07):
Right, Seamus, how do we get rich? Huh?
Speaker 4 (01:00:09):
What's the Seamous special today?
Speaker 6 (01:00:12):
The real quick I'm not a big Trend's guy. But
Kirby Smart has never covered when laying forty or more points,
so it's not gonna be easy. You're just gonna have
to hold your nose and take Tennessee Tech this week,
but fifty two to fifty three depending on them where
you're getting the number. Kirby Smart doesn't run up the
(01:00:34):
score of these guys. I don't know what it is,
but also, like I do need to say, it was
my older brother Drew's birthday this past week. A uv
alum sharp money loves the Who's this week. I think
I love the Who's as well, So I think Virginia
wins out right that week for us today.
Speaker 3 (01:00:50):
Love it?
Speaker 4 (01:00:50):
Hey, all Righteamus, great stuff, buddy, hope you enjoy the
games man.
Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
We'll catch you soon.
Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
Thanks, guys, Thank you.
Speaker 5 (01:00:58):
There.
Speaker 4 (01:00:58):
He is Seamus McGee, t lead of sports trading at
bet MGM. You know, I always say, if you can't
name the nickname like Tennessee Tech makes me think about this.
If you can't name the nickname, that team is garbage. Right,
That's just my general rule of Now. I'm not disagreeing
with Seamus. That doesn't mean you don't take the points
in a certain matchup. But that's my my first litmus
(01:01:23):
Tech two and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:01:25):
It's so many points, It's just so many.
Speaker 3 (01:01:28):
I mean, it feels a fifty burger.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
Oh wow, wow.
Speaker 7 (01:01:34):
You don't see it often in college football fifty points spread?
Speaker 4 (01:01:37):
Was that the game against Middle Tennessee last week for
Tennessee Tech, they played them pretty tough.
Speaker 2 (01:01:41):
They actually had a chance to win that game.
Speaker 3 (01:01:43):
Yes, oh, I talked about the last week.
Speaker 7 (01:01:46):
We gave out Tennessee Tech plus twenty six, and they
had a chance to win that game on.
Speaker 4 (01:01:49):
The they did they right in tack. Let's go, yeah,
Tennessee Tech.
Speaker 2 (01:01:54):
I'm looking it up.
Speaker 4 (01:01:55):
I don't know what the nickname the Road Lions, the
Road Lions, Lion lion runners like the Golden Eagles.
Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
Okay, I was close. I was close. I was I
was not.
Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
When you go with lion runners, you're either off.
Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
I think they should just change it. I think they
should have absolutely just changed that.
Speaker 4 (01:02:20):
All right, we're gonna get to overreactions here in a second,
but uh, the biggest overreaction would be saying Isaac Lowan
Kron he's just okay that that that would be insanity
right there, because he's amazing, and he's got the latest.
Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
What's going on?
Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
I love well the very latest.
Speaker 11 (01:02:36):
Tennessee Tech just announcing they are changing their nickname to
the Lion Runners, their athletic director saying, Their athletic director
saying in a statement, we don't exactly know what it means,
but we love rich hoorn Berger, so we're willing to
go with it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
You're welcome, Tennessee, just the whole state. You're welcome.
Speaker 11 (01:02:59):
As you volunt tier that information for the same test anyway. Yeah,
I've better quit the puns and get to the sports.
We start with the NFL. Multiple outlets reporting the Green
Day Packers quarterback Jordan Love will have an MRI when
the team returns to Green Bay after Friday night's thirty
four to twenty nine loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at
sal Paolo Brazil. Love helped off the field after appearing
(01:03:21):
to injure his left lower leg in the final seconds
of the fourth quarter. The Packers scheduled to land back
in Green Bay at approximately twelve to thirty pm Eastern time.
Right now, the Packers are off the east coast of
Florida on their flight back. As far as the game,
Saquon Barkley ran for one oh nine scored three touchdowns,
(01:03:41):
including two on the ground, in his Eagles debut. Aj
Brown caught five passes for one hundred and nineteen yards,
including a sixty seventy yard touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts.
In Major League Baseball on Friday night, Manny Machado of
the San Diego Padres hit two home runs at a
five to one victory over the Sand Francisco Giants, tying
(01:04:02):
Nate Don't pronounce it Colbert Colbert's franchise record for home
runs in a Padre uniform at one hundred and sixty three.
The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Dodgers in LA three to
one despite shoe heey O Toddi's forty fifth home run.
The Oakland A's with a wild seven to six win
over the Detroit Tigers. Oakland's Seth Brown the game winning
(01:04:22):
RBI single in the bottom of the thirteenth inning after
he had tied it with a two run home run
in the bottom of the eleventh inning. And earlier Friday night,
the New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Red six to four.
Mark Vantos the game winning two run home run in
the bottom of the tenth, giving the Mets an eight
game winning street Fellas, go line runners, Thank.
Speaker 13 (01:04:43):
You, I Loo.
Speaker 4 (01:04:44):
It is Fox Sports Radio Scutdown to Kickoff, presented by

Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
All right, fellows.
Speaker 4 (01:05:16):
So we're looking at biggest overreactions thus far in the
young college football season.
Speaker 2 (01:05:22):
Here. I would go with Oregon.
Speaker 4 (01:05:25):
Oregon had a stinker performance last week against Idaho, and
you know how it goes. Some of the comments, some
of the reactions go above and beyond. They dropped in
the polls. I get that, but look, it happens. Sometimes.
It reminds me of Alabama where Alabama they had a
(01:05:45):
championship season in twenty eleven and Georgia Southern ran for
three hundred and two yards on them, and Nick Saban
had the famous tin horn quote where he said, and
they ran through our ass like bleep through a tin horn.
And you're like, never heard that before, never heard that
before or since, But okay, whatever, and this was this
(01:06:07):
goes back to a performance Nick Saban was at Alabama
and they had nothing for Chattanooga in the first half.
And listen to the halftime interview. We have to play
the extended cut because at the end it's just too good.
Speaker 2 (01:06:21):
Check this out.
Speaker 13 (01:06:21):
We're not doing a very good job of pass protecting,
we're not throwing the ball on time, we don't have
much consistency on offense running pass. So we just got
to do a better job of putting drives together. And
you know, defensively, they gave us some new stuff that
confused us a little bit, but we settled down a
little bit. So, you know, we've got to know what
kind of game we're in and we got to go
play better.
Speaker 3 (01:06:40):
How have you told your players what kind of game
you are in?
Speaker 13 (01:06:43):
Well, I'm gonna tell them right now. I mean, I'm
embarrass so we played this half.
Speaker 2 (01:06:48):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:06:48):
I'm to tell him that.
Speaker 2 (01:06:49):
Sure, Okay, thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:06:52):
I'm like, listen, and those are like championship seasons from Alabama.
It happens at times, where do you I think Oregon
went into that game.
Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
Like we've got Idaho circle this week.
Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
This is no and so I don't want to make
all the excuses in the world for them. It was
a bad performance. But to just write them off because
it was a stinker in the opener against Idaho, I
think that's a total overreaction, you know what.
Speaker 2 (01:07:17):
I'm kind of along the same lines as you.
Speaker 5 (01:07:20):
I think the LSU loss to USC was it disappointing, yeah, obviously,
but I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
Think it was a tragedy.
Speaker 5 (01:07:31):
Like Tigers fans would allow you to believe they've got
a soft schedule to open their season. They've got a
backloaded schedule where this team can improve over the next
couple of weeks and emerge as one of the more
prominent teams come the end of the year if they
can pull things together. They've got some real talent on
this team. There's there's no question about it. You want
(01:07:53):
to get that win against USC. But again, the sky
is falling in Louisiana, but I just don't see it.
I think it's way too early in the season to
get all bothered about one loss in a game against
a renovated USC Trojans teams. That's a very different looking
team without Caleb Williams, but that's a very different looking defense. Now,
(01:08:17):
teams can get snuck up on week one of the
college football season with the transfer portal being wide open
right now. So I would I would argue this to
any Tigers fan who is losing their mind, getting their
pitchforks and torches, ready to get their head coach out
of town.
Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
Let it bake. The season is very young still.
Speaker 7 (01:08:37):
Yeah, I think I'll give you two teams that won
last week very impressively that I'm not buying yet.
Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:08:44):
One of them is my own Alma Manor and that's
Penn State. I mean again, Yeah, and listen. I love
the fact that they pushed the ball down the field.
I love that they scored a bunch of points. But
they did that last year against West Virginia. I want
to see it against Ohio State. I want to see
it against the big boys, and we'll get our chance.
But I'm not buying Penn State.
Speaker 2 (01:09:06):
Can I guess? I Can I guess your other team? Yeah?
Go ahead, is it the you? Yes, it is.
Speaker 3 (01:09:14):
Wow, did you get it?
Speaker 2 (01:09:15):
We're on the same page. That's why I'm.
Speaker 3 (01:09:18):
Not buying Mario crystal Ball either.
Speaker 7 (01:09:20):
You're telling me that overnight Mario crystal Ball turned into
a tactician extraordinariy the guy that refused to take a
knee last year when he had a lead against Georgia Tech.
Speaker 3 (01:09:31):
The pieces are there.
Speaker 7 (01:09:33):
I am not doubting his ability as a talent compiler,
someone who can accumulate talent and get them all together
on the field. I'm questioning the second level of that,
which is when you and.
Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
We're not gonna get a Tech.
Speaker 7 (01:09:48):
We're not going to know how good Miami is until
the playoff because go look at their schedule. They don't
play anyone they do, and then they're gonna get into
the playoff most likely, and they are going to get
throttled by a really good team. Florida is not a
really good team, and they showed it last week. And
there's no like, I don't know when Miami's gonna be
tested this year.
Speaker 4 (01:10:06):
Brian, Right, No, I'm with you. And it's funny because
it's a little bit like the Spider Man meme with
Penn State and Miami sort of pointing at each other like, yeah,
there are carbon copies where there are times where both
of them fire us up and we're like, whoa look
out are they back? And then the season goes along
and you're like, same old story. And that's what I
(01:10:28):
expect to happen with Miami in particular. And I could
see the same thing happening with Penn State, but especially Miami.
And look, I'll due respect to cam Ward. He was
sensational last week in the opening against Florida. He's a
real talent. That's a big get for Miami. But do
I expect them to sustain this and do damage come
playoff time?
Speaker 2 (01:10:47):
Absolutely not. Florida sucks. Let's not forget that.
Speaker 4 (01:10:51):
Okay, Like it's funny to me, like we're crushing Billy
Napier and then the next breath, we're like, look out
for Miami, they're back.
Speaker 2 (01:10:58):
No, it doesn't. It's a lot like the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (01:11:01):
We trash the Cowboys like crazy, and then we turn
around we're like, what a performance by Jordan Love. Wow,
this Packers team, It's like it can't be both, you
know what I mean. So that's how I look at
Miami I'm not buying in either.
Speaker 5 (01:11:13):
You know, I want to give some credit to the
Notre Dame Irish. If there is overreaction, I think it's
warranted and justified right now because what they did I
don't think can be understated. I mean, very similar in
fact to what USC did to LSU. On the other
side of that coin, I focused on LSU the overreaction
(01:11:34):
to the lost Week one. You know, teams change, teams
correct things. The biggest jump teams make between or I
should say all football season is between week one and
week two. In my opinion, the early successes and failures
they can be built on or improved on, depending on
which side the coin lands on in that opener. But
(01:11:56):
for Notre Dame going to Aggie Land and getting that
victory and so prizing people with how explosive their offense
can look, Riley Leonard's got a lot of work to do.
That offense hasn't been fully unlocked, and their their offensive
line clearly lacks the veterans seasoning we're used to seeing.
Losing Joe Walton the draft obviously huge for them up front,
(01:12:17):
But but I have a lot of faith in what's happening.
There's good leadership in that football program. I'm a big
believer in the Irish. All of a sudden, I think.
Speaker 7 (01:12:26):
One of my biggest surprises of the weekend was how
well that offensive line held up in College Station. Yeah, Brian,
I'm sure you you echo those same thoughts and can
and can continue that. I think there are there were
some surprises to the upside. That was I think one
of the biggest ones. I think Colorado's performance needs to
be talked about with their continuing lack of defense. I
(01:12:48):
think that's gonna be one that that we mentioned a
lot throughout the season. I'm with you on Oregon too, Brian.
I think Oregon bounces back big this week. You might
hear a little bit from them later. I think there's
a lot of I think there's a lot of those
teams that and here here's another team. All right, here's
another team we haven't talked about yet. And I'm curious
if you think this is overhype under hype based on
what we saw last week. We gave out the Alabama
(01:13:10):
over They covered it themselves. Jalen Milroe and Kaylen de Borr.
They look like a match made in heaven. I don't
want to overreact to Western Kentucky and beating them sixty
to nothing. But that Alabama offense, if they can figure
it out, and Milroe's light bulb can turn on with
Kaylin de Boor, who just figures out a way to
get the most out of everywhere.
Speaker 3 (01:13:31):
He goes, that Alabama offense is really scary.
Speaker 7 (01:13:34):
I don't want to underreact to what we saw last week,
but I don't want to overreact either.
Speaker 4 (01:13:38):
You know, maybe that was a look ahead game for
Western Kentucky as they been looking cast Alabama and looking
forward to the white out underse Eastern Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (01:13:48):
I don't know, No, I'm just kidding, run all right.
Speaker 4 (01:13:50):
Coming up next, we've got rich oron Berger, Penn State
All American, Jared Smith FSR betting analyst. I'm Brian know
are bonding time the prop betting market.
Speaker 2 (01:14:01):
I'll tell you this. I think the answer is in
his name. Huh. We'll give you that information.
Speaker 4 (01:14:09):
Coming up, it's Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff presented
by BETMGM.
Speaker 2 (01:14:13):
It is Fox.
Speaker 4 (01:14:14):

(01:14:36):

Speaker 1 (01:14:38):
All right, let's do this prop it up player plays.
Speaker 4 (01:14:45):
Okay, the prop bet market. We'll start with you, Jared, what's.
Speaker 7 (01:14:50):
Something that you like today. Well, we talked about this
during the Tennessee segment. I think of all the props
on the board today. If you look at this Tennessee offense,
if you're a little bit weary about laying over a
touchdown with the balls, I understand that. Well, then you
just go to the prompt market and you bet Nico
Imalava over two hundred and fifty.
Speaker 3 (01:15:08):
Five and a half passing yards. I don't need to
give you any stats.
Speaker 7 (01:15:11):
Or any you know, you know NERD numbers for this one.
He threw for over three hundred in the first half
last week. That's all I have to say. This Tennessee
offense runs tempo.
Speaker 3 (01:15:21):
I expect a ton of.
Speaker 7 (01:15:22):
Plays, the volume of plays, and I think we see
another step forward in the Heisman campaign as Iamalava over
two fifty.
Speaker 3 (01:15:31):
Five and a half passing.
Speaker 5 (01:15:33):
I like Travis Hunter, but I like him on the under,
so eighty eight and a half yards. I don't see
it happening for him. Look, if you looked at his
game log last season, it was an interesting season for
Travis Hunter against the better defenses.
Speaker 2 (01:15:49):
He didn't have the gaudy stats that we think he did.
Speaker 5 (01:15:52):
And this this Shardoor Sanders led Colorado offense obviously is
dependent on the passing game, but not always Hunter.
Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
They spread the ball around pretty well, a lot of.
Speaker 5 (01:16:03):
Receivers, a lot of running backs getting touches throughout the
courts of the weeks of the season, and there were
times where he was down and he couldn't play last year.
Speaker 2 (01:16:11):
I'm gonna take the under of the eighty eight and
a half.
Speaker 5 (01:16:13):
I think there's gonna be a plan to eliminate the
best receiving target for Sanders, and it's going to force
the bus to go elsewhere with the football.
Speaker 2 (01:16:22):
Against Nebraska, Okay, the undertaker is back. I less against
the Kane Ornberger.
Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
Very nice.
Speaker 4 (01:16:29):
I'm gonna go with an under as well here. Maybe
the answer is in his name, Jackson Dart. Okay, he
throws darts. He's not a runner, at least he hasn't been.
The rushing prop against Middle Tennessee today is at thirty
five and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:16:48):
Okay, Jackson Dart.
Speaker 4 (01:16:50):
Has gone under thirty five rushing yards in seven straight games.
Speaker 1 (01:16:54):
Why would he?
Speaker 4 (01:16:55):
Why would he run it when he could just throw
the wide open guys and he's gonna have a lot
of wide open receivers in this game. You look at
Tennessee Tech quarterback Jordan Potts against this Middle Tennessee State defense.
Speaker 2 (01:17:10):
He threw for two fifty six and three touchdowns.
Speaker 4 (01:17:13):
Okay, if you want to look at the passing yards
with Jackson Dart, be my guest. I mean, that might
be a good way to look the over three hundred
and a half. But if you're worried about may maybe
he gets pulled out of the game early because they're
ahead by so much, maybe they run the ball a
little bit more. I just don't see Jackson Dart running
it himself a whole lot. He's gonna have open receivers,
(01:17:35):
no need to scramble. If you can throw it to
a wide open receiver, why why run and maybe get
decleted by the middle linebacker.
Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
If you don't slide in time, you know, I'm.
Speaker 4 (01:17:45):
Just gonna take Jackson Dart under thirty five and a
half rushing yards today.
Speaker 2 (01:17:49):
I like that one. I'll give you an over that
I like.
Speaker 5 (01:17:52):
No, uh, and this is probably gonna be until I
feel like the the the passing yardage catches up with
how out of a defense we're talking about Dylan Rayola
against Colorado defense.
Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
Two hundred and forty and a half. I think the
over will hit there. Again.
Speaker 5 (01:18:12):
First of all, you have to keep pace with Buffalo,
who will score points. And then the second secondarily, they
don't play defense. Coach Prime, whatever they're doing over there,
it is in defense. So it's say two forty and
a half and the over.
Speaker 2 (01:18:30):
I'll take that with Dylan Rayola.
Speaker 7 (01:18:32):
Guys, I think I've officially gone off my rocker here
because I'm about to recommend an Iowa skill position player
to go over.
Speaker 2 (01:18:39):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:18:40):
Oh wow, yeah, what is happening here? But Luke Bliche
receiving yards at forty and a half.
Speaker 7 (01:18:46):
This is a guy that's had twenty three targets nearly
eight targets per game over his last three full games.
Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
And I think this is the guy on the Iowa offense.
Speaker 2 (01:18:56):
We know about the running game.
Speaker 7 (01:18:57):
I think McNamara's got a little giddy up with his
legs too, but I think he gets into a third
and long. I think they're looking to the tight end
Luke Lache over and over and an Iowa skill position player.
Speaker 3 (01:19:07):
What just stop the segment? Alrighty, I don't know what.
Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
Was it again? Over? What for?
Speaker 6 (01:19:13):
All?
Speaker 13 (01:19:13):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:19:15):
Coming up next primetime in primetime and a primetime matchup
in the daytime that's on the way.
Speaker 3 (01:19:22):
Oh, what is going on?
Speaker 4 (01:19:23):
We are less than an hour away from kickoff in
the Big House, Texas and Michigan, one of the handful
of twelve noon Eastern start times. So we'll get back
into that game here momentarily Colorado led by Coach Prime huh,
Primetime in primetime, we'll get to Colorado and Nebraska and
(01:19:45):
just a couple of minutes first though. Isaac Lohencron just
mentioned a minute ago that initial MRI like initial test
show that Jordan loves acl is intact, which is fantastic news.
He was injured in the final seconds last night against
the Eagles in Brazil. Eagles won the game, and it
looked like oh, gosh, is Jordan Love gonna miss significant time?
(01:20:08):
So at least one hurdle seems to be okay. We
cleared that first hurdle, now there have to be additional
tests to see if everything else is intact. The first
guy I thought of, guys was Vikings rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy,
because think about it, he's been down for the season
and he had that meniscus injury, and I'm just hoping
(01:20:29):
the same thing doesn't happen with Jordan Love. Right where
it seemed pretty harmless with JJ McCarthy. Even the head coach,
Kevin O'Connell was like, yeah, you know, we're gonna check
it out, but it might be at practice this.
Speaker 2 (01:20:41):
Week and the next thing you know, he's done for
the year.
Speaker 4 (01:20:43):
So I hope that there are a couple more hurdles
that we get over with Jordan Love and the injury
situation with the knee. The ACL hurdle has been cleared,
that's awesome news. I just hope the other hurdles are
cleared as well and he's back on the field.
Speaker 5 (01:20:59):
And also, haven't seen Jordan Love play injured or with
a significant injury so far his career and different players
react differently to playing hurt. I don't think you can
get to this level without having played through something significant
at some point in your career. But there are lucky
players who have sort of evaded that through the majority
(01:21:21):
of their career. Certainly through the majority of his early
NFL career he has, and mainly because he was a
backup to start behind Aaron Rodgers, so he hasn't been
road tested quite as much as some of these other
qbs around the league. And like I said, it can
change a lot. It can change if it limits your
(01:21:42):
mobility by how much you know, are you able to
evade pressure in the pocket as well, are you able
to step into a throw and trust your leg from
buckling under the pressure of a low hit.
Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
You know?
Speaker 5 (01:21:54):
Those things change you mentally as a player too, So
very curious to see how tentative he is with that
if he even does start in the Green Bay Packers
upcoming matchup.
Speaker 3 (01:22:04):
Really good point about him not playing injured.
Speaker 7 (01:22:07):
Good news is it's it was a Friday game, so
they'll get some extra time the travel and the gates
that a little bit. But the bigger news that I
saw come across the wire just recently was Russell Wilson.
He's gonna play tomorrow? Is unlikely? Is the word that
we're hearing now, which is a I.
Speaker 3 (01:22:26):
Mean, giddy up. Justin Field's in Atlanta, baby, let's go. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:22:32):
Quarterback injuries clearly the the the soup d jore news
of the day here. I don't know where the uh
where the report was coming from, but it just came
across my wire.
Speaker 3 (01:22:42):
Unlikely to play. I'm assuming it was Hopefully it was
a it was.
Speaker 7 (01:22:45):
A reporter that is credentialed in the NFL, but it
came across my odd screen, so that usually means it's
a it's a pretty legitimate and that is going to
move the number significantly.
Speaker 3 (01:22:56):
I think with that game against the Falcons tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:22:59):
Well, such a fluky injury from Russell Wilson where this
was back in training camp and he I don't know
if he was channeling like his inner Mike Webster or
something with the Steelers, but he was trying to move
like a tackling sled, like he's going offensive lineman and mess.
He tweaked his calf up and it just flared up
again this week at practice. Crazy but might be a
(01:23:22):
homecoming for Justin fields. Right, he's from the Atlanta area.
Oh yeah, yeah, he's from Cannesau just outside there.
Speaker 2 (01:23:28):
So Georgia bulldog, yeah right, for you've got a cup
of coffee.
Speaker 3 (01:23:32):
There, Yeah, like about a half a second, there would.
Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
Be a buck guy and get on the field here. Good,
this all right?
Speaker 4 (01:23:37):
So we got Colorado and Nebraska tonight. This spread has
ticked under seven here, so Nebraska favored by.
Speaker 2 (01:23:45):
Six and a half.
Speaker 4 (01:23:47):
Listen, first thing I think of is physicality travels right,
and Colorado has not shown to be physical in the trenches.
Speaker 2 (01:23:56):
And that is a scary situation.
Speaker 4 (01:23:59):
Rich you could speak to the all too well, all
your experience in the trenches, but when you saw Colorado
look the way they did not only last year but
last week against an FCS team in North Dakota State,
Shout out to the Bison. They do their thing on
the FCS level. But when you get pushed around in
the trenches on both sides of the ball, that is
a bad look going forward and going against Nebraska, who
(01:24:23):
looks to have a real quarterback now in Dylan Ryola.
When you've got the physicality advantage in the trenches and
you've got a real quarterback and you've got that atmosphere
and you've got a bunch of crazy people with their
hair on fire, that it has not a great formula
for success. I don't feel like for Colorado. What do
you think about this now? Colorado smacked around Nebraska last year.
(01:24:45):
I think this is a different year. And man, if
you are losing the physicality battle and you're losing the
battle in the trenches, you are already down significantly. And
that's how I see this matchup shaking out.
Speaker 5 (01:24:57):
Yeah, I try to convince me that University of Texas
l Paso has a much, much, much much worse defense
than Colorado.
Speaker 2 (01:25:07):
You can't like.
Speaker 5 (01:25:09):
I think that's the problem. Colorado does not play defense.
So when Nebraska did to UTEP last week, I think
we're going to see a repeat of this week. They
did whatever they wanted in the run game, and I
think we're gonna see something similar against the Buffs. I
think Dylan Reyola wasn't asked to do a ton but
what he did get asked to do, he did a
(01:25:30):
really nice job.
Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
He looks very poised.
Speaker 5 (01:25:33):
His throwing ability even with pressure, I think is going
to be tested maybe a little bit more here because
if I was Colorado, and I knew we had such
a weakness upfront, I would be throwing a lot of movement,
a lot of blitz packages at Nebraska. Try to catch
them in a situation where, hey, we didn't see this
on film, and all of a sudden we're facing a
third and twenty two and it comes down to having
(01:25:56):
the freshman quarterback make a play for him and maybe
he one up to the defense. Because that's the only way.
I have very little respect for the way that Colorado
plays football. Thank god Dion Sanders kid can run, because
if he couldn't, he would be under siege every single game.
They're pour upfront on the offensive line, they're poor defensively.
(01:26:18):
They're a House of cards type team, and so it's
gonna be a long, hard season for Colorado. If they
don't figure this stuff out real fast in this game,
it could turn into a barn burner. There's no question
that offense is poised to put up big numbers should
or Sanders through for almost four hundred and fifty yards
a week ago, but they just they have to rely
(01:26:40):
on gaudy offensive stats to keep them in games because
their defense doesn't.
Speaker 7 (01:26:46):
The numbers match up with everything Rich just said, like
literally everything I saw this week in the deep dives
of all their analytics from the last game, it just
sinks up to literally everything Rich just told you. I
think the defense is the biggest concern. It's the same
as last year, and North Dakota State didn't do anything
(01:27:07):
that exciting.
Speaker 3 (01:27:08):
They ran heavy sets, they ran.
Speaker 7 (01:27:10):
Crossing routes, play action, very basic concepts, and Colorado had
no answer. They allowed a fifty four percent success rate
on passing places. That's terrible. You're facing North Dakota State.
I know it's not the average FCS team. You need
to be successful on more than half of the passing
downs or else you are not going to compete at
the college football level. The middle linebacker Trevor Woods looked
(01:27:33):
lost no idea where the hole was trying to fill
the gap in the run game.
Speaker 3 (01:27:36):
I mean, that is the biggest.
Speaker 7 (01:27:38):
Problem for Colorado is the second level linebackers unable to
gobble up that space because the defensive line's not getting
enough push up front. It's really a problem. Offensively, Chadorz
is holding onto it too long. I mean the time
to throw rate is nearly three seconds. That's longer than
last year. The pressure rate is high. The offensive line
is based on what I saw. I would call it,
(01:28:00):
you know, average, maybe slightly improved from last year. The
only way this team can compete is if Sanders and
Webster and Horn and Hunter just completely go bananas.
Speaker 3 (01:28:10):
It is very much an arena football kind of feel. Yea,
and Nebraska's got some They got some stoutness.
Speaker 7 (01:28:15):
To them, Like I don't think defensively they're as good
as last year, but that offense, that offense can push
you around a little bit. And Riola's got some talent.
I think Colorado's in for a really tough game and
may be a really tough season.
Speaker 4 (01:28:25):
Yeah, I hear you, guys, and you tell me if
you like this comparison. I think Colorado this year is
like a poor man's USC from last year.
Speaker 3 (01:28:35):
Wow right, yeah me.
Speaker 4 (01:28:38):
Look Caleb Williams number one overall pick, sensational talent at USC.
They had some really good skill position players, but just
didn't have it up front, didn't have it in the trenches.
Speaker 2 (01:28:48):
Terrible defense, and you saw them lose.
Speaker 4 (01:28:51):
Five games with the number one overall pick at quarterback, right,
And that's how I see Colorado being built. Shaduor Sanders
and Travis Hunt are fantastic and those both might be
top ten players picked in the NFL draft, they might
be top five. Who knows how it's gonna shake out,
but they are fantastic talents. You just don't have it
(01:29:12):
up front. And when you don't have it up front,
you can't rely on it. That's like a basketball team
relying solely on three point shooting and eventually, depending on
the opponent or the night, it's gonna try up and
then what do you have? You don't have anything. And
that's where I see Colorado. Man, They've got the highlight
(01:29:33):
guys in Sanders and Hunter, but man, you gotta have
the big uglies too, and they just don't.
Speaker 5 (01:29:40):
This team is too pretty. Colorado is too pretty. Football
is not a pretty game. Deon Sanders, that was his game.
He was basically a basketball player. He was a incredible
skilled position guy throughout the course of his football playing career,
and all of that has reinforced something in him that
(01:30:04):
I think works for a singular player like a corner
or a receiver or a quarterback, clearly as Sun should
or a quarterback has done a phenomenal job throwing the
football and making highlight plays. But football is not a
pretty sport. The best teams are built from the inside out.
All the most important players who are closest to the football.
Speaker 2 (01:30:24):
Are the ones you really need to focus on.
Speaker 5 (01:30:27):
It is a passing game, but these games are won
and lost at the line of scrimmage, and so if
you are not short up at front, you will be exposed.
Colorado will be exposed this season just like they were
last year.
Speaker 2 (01:30:43):
And it's not it's not Shoud or Sanders' fault.
Speaker 5 (01:30:46):
It's not a Travis Hunter or Horn Junior or any
of these great athletes they have on the edges, and frankly,
it's not even the offensive lineman's fault. They've got to
get guys in that group who are just big, mean,
tough dudes who are well coached, who are going to
make a commitment to making opposing defenses pay. And then
(01:31:09):
on the other side of the field defensively, your front
seven or your front six, you got to have some
bad dudes with bad intentions upfront who are going to
make things easier for your secondary. So there are a
couple more up for grabs. Throws a game where if
you have enough skill in the secondary, you're gonna force
turnovers that way, Otherwise it doesn't work.
Speaker 2 (01:31:29):
That's why it didn't work last year.
Speaker 5 (01:31:32):
It was a lot of flash, it was a lot
of media coverage, but that was a bad football team
last year. They were bad in their conference and they
will be bad this year because there haven't been major
improvements made at the line of scrimmage year over year.
Speaker 2 (01:31:46):
They have not learned their lesson.
Speaker 7 (01:31:49):
Yeah, and Travis Huner had to play seventy two snaps
on defense, So how sustainable is that. Throughout the course
of the season he played one hundred and twenty nine
overall snaps. It's just I don't know if that's sustainable.
And maybe it is. Maybe he's just such a freak
that he can do that week in and week out,
but I'm not sure.
Speaker 3 (01:32:10):
Let's give a little love to Nebraska's defense.
Speaker 7 (01:32:13):
I think that is the unit here that is going
to be tested the most, obviously by Colorado, especially the secondary.
Speaker 3 (01:32:20):
Tommy Hill, Marcus.
Speaker 7 (01:32:21):
Buford, Hertzog Singleton Gifford like these are all upper class
secondary players for Nebraska.
Speaker 3 (01:32:27):
They've all been there three plus years.
Speaker 7 (01:32:29):
I think that is the group that will be relied
upon to try to reel in, say what we want
about Colorado, Right, we can compare the USC.
Speaker 3 (01:32:36):
I love the US.
Speaker 7 (01:32:37):
He comparison Brian when they face a tough secondary, that's
the matchup to watch.
Speaker 3 (01:32:42):
It's Cannes.
Speaker 7 (01:32:43):
Colorado's skill group, which is very flashy, find ways to
get open and just blow the game up because I
think if it's down to down, you know, five yards
in a cloud of dust kind of vibe. Nebraska's gonna
win that game nine times out of ten. The only
way Colorado wins this game is if they spread it
out and they just show you all of the flash.
Here's the nuance. Here is the wrinkle. Defensive coordinator Tony White.
(01:33:08):
Last week Nebraska played UTEP at home. It was a
raucous crowd in Lincoln. They have the new helmet communication
for the defense as well, so you can you know,
there's a green it's called the green Dot linebacker, green
Dot player that gets the signals Tony White. It was
so loud at Memortals Stadium. Tony White couldn't get the
signals in. He had to wear like a Neon green
(01:33:28):
shirt and like wave in the signal. So keep an
eye on that this week. If there's any you know,
inconsistencies in the secondary for Nebraska, can't get the signals
and can't get the calls in. Like I could see
that blowing up and having some big explosive plays for Colorado.
But besides that, like this feels like a really straightforward game.
Nebraska smash mouth, defend the pass, and they should come
(01:33:50):
out with a win here.
Speaker 4 (01:33:52):

bonus bets if that bet loses.
Speaker 2 (01:34:52):
All right, righting the wrongs.
Speaker 4 (01:34:54):
That is what Oregon will be looking to do in
primetime on p KROC is what I must call it
right there, like yeah, if you don't want to shell
out the extra dough to watch the game in Brazil
or college football that you don't gonna see this, you know,
but whatever, we're in the streaming day and age. I'll
get off of my soapbox. Ten pm Eastern Time. Oregon,
(01:35:16):
who didn't do much of anything last week against Idaho,
they are healthy favorites, nearly three touchdown favorites against Boise
State Ashton genty he went for six touchdowns last week,
which was amazing. The fine print is he gave up
about what fifty points jared against.
Speaker 3 (01:35:37):
Georgia's bid points five yards.
Speaker 4 (01:35:40):
What What's Oregon gonna do offensively tonight is the question.
I'll tell you what it's gonna be a whole lot
more than twenty four points, which is what they scored
last week.
Speaker 2 (01:35:49):
Yeah, yeah, better be. If they want to keep that
top ten ranking, it better be.
Speaker 5 (01:35:55):
It's uh, it's it's really fascinating to see or to
presume what it's going to look like with the Ducks
playing in the Big Ten, because it is just it
is just a variable when you have to make several
trips to the Midwest and the East to play against
cold weather teams in outdoor environments. And I know what
(01:36:19):
everybody says, well, not all of these players are from
the Pacific Northwest, while the majority of them are from
the hotbeds of college football who played in high school
in the south of this country, or who were playing
on the West Coast, especially southern California or up the
Western seaboard, where you get moderate weather compared to some
(01:36:40):
of the weather they're gonna face later in the season.
So having early season struggles does not bode well for
one of these new West Coast Big Ten teams.
Speaker 2 (01:36:50):
The Broncos.
Speaker 5 (01:36:52):
They've got they've got some problems that Oregans are that
they're going to have to answer to.
Speaker 2 (01:36:57):
One of the biggest problems is their stole up front.
Speaker 5 (01:37:00):
They do a nice job opening rush lanes for genty
and that's been the case for a year or a
full season now in Boise State and the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (01:37:11):
They're going right back to the well. And why not.
So the Broncos, if I haven't.
Speaker 5 (01:37:17):
Missed my guess, what they're aiming to do on the
road against the Ducks is when they get the football,
do not give it back. Don't give it back to
a quarterback who can complete, you know, over forty passes
a game.
Speaker 2 (01:37:29):
Hold on to it for a little while.
Speaker 5 (01:37:31):
And they have the capability to do that, and oh,
by the way, have the capability to score from the
run game as well.
Speaker 2 (01:37:37):
So this is gonna be a tough matchup.
Speaker 5 (01:37:39):
I don't know what the total is Jared on this game,
but this feels like an underplay just based on the
style of offense that the Broncos play.
Speaker 7 (01:37:48):
Yeah, sixty two, sixty one and a half I'm seeing
out there, but you know, I would say the prevailing
number is sixty two.
Speaker 3 (01:37:56):
This is a really bad situational spot for boys outline this.
Speaker 7 (01:38:00):
We do a video, two videos every week, but the
Friday video I do for bet MGM highlighted this game,
and I think when you look at the travel it
matters this. The travel situation matters here Boise State, which is,
you know, not used to playing in the heat and
humidity of southeastern United States, a climate there in Statesboro, Georgia.
Speaker 3 (01:38:22):
I've been to Statesboro, Georgia. It ain't fun and it's
hot this time of year. So they so they play.
Speaker 7 (01:38:27):
So they play a game in Statesboro, Georgia on Saturday.
They get Now, they run the ball wherever they want,
They do whatever they want on the running game, but
they get pushed around up front, their defense gets gas
forty five point five hundred ards. Then they got to
fly back home to Boise full week of practice. And
then you gotta go to Austin Stadium. And I know
Eugene and and Boise are you know, obviously much closer
than Boise and Georgia. But Eugene is not an easy
(01:38:50):
place to get to. It's either a seven hour bus
ride from Boise. You gotta fly to these random airports.
It's not an easy travel stretch for Boise State. And
then oh, by the way, what did that heat and
humidity take on their defense or their offense? Like do
they have anything left in the gas nank where As
you mentioned, Brian Organ just kind of was in cruise control.
Speaker 3 (01:39:10):
Dylan Gabriel forty.
Speaker 7 (01:39:11):
One out of fifty passing, which is fantastic, but the
arts per TEP number is really low. Obviously, The key
is can you shut down Ashton Genty. Boise's got a
really good offensive line. Casey and Dooley on the left side,
both all conference players. I mean, you talk about those
two left side of the offensive line and Genty. Is
there a better trio in especially in the Mountain West Conference?
(01:39:32):
I don't know if there is. So that's the challenge
for Oregon's defense, but I think Dan Lanning's gonna have
his guys up for this game. They play Oregon State
next week, then they get a couple of interesting Big
Ten games before they have to play the Big Boy
against Ohio State. But you gotta get this defense up
for this challenge. If they can shut down Genty, make
Boise one dimensional, I think Oregon can absolutely roll here
(01:39:52):
if the Broncos defense doesn't have anything left.
Speaker 4 (01:39:55):
All right, speaking of rolling, our guy, Isaac Lowenkron is
up next, and when we're through withth I Loo, He's
going to pass the baton to potential musical quarterbacks and
also the final four.
Speaker 1 (01:40:08):
We got a lot to do.
Speaker 2 (01:40:09):
I low with the latest. What's going on? I love well, fellows.
Speaker 11 (01:40:13):
We start with the latest on Green Bay Packers quarterback
Jalen Hurts, with NFL media reporting a short time ago
that initial tests indicated that Jordan loves acl is intact,
but that there remain a wide range of potential outcomes
based on additional scans. Love will have an MRI when
(01:40:33):
the Packers returned to Green Bay after he was injured
in the final seconds of Friday Nights thirty four to
twenty nine loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Sal Paulo, Brazil. Packers'
schedule to land back in Green Bay at approximately twelve
thirty Eastern time. As we speak, they are in the
air flying over Kentucky.
Speaker 10 (01:40:53):
Now.
Speaker 11 (01:40:54):
In the game itself, Saquon Barkley ran for one hundred
and nine yards scored three touchdowns, including two on the ground,
in his Eagles debut.
Speaker 7 (01:41:03):
A J.
Speaker 11 (01:41:03):
Brown caught five passes for one hundred and nineteen yards,
including a sixty seven yard touchdown reception from Jalen Hurts.
In Major League Baseball on Friday evening, Manny Machado of
the San Diego Padres at two home runs and a
five to one victory over the Giants to tie Nate
Colbert's franchise record for home runs that a Padre uniform
(01:41:24):
at one sixty three. The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Dodgers
at LA three to one, despite Shohey Otadi's forty fifth
home run. Today's college football action kicking off at the
top of the hour, including tenth rank Michigan playing host
to number three Texas finally fellas. We have one more
side note from last night's matchup between the Packers and
(01:41:47):
the Eagles in Brazil and Brazil the key word here.
Somehow this had not been nationally discovered, perhaps fortunately until
just moments ago. But yesterday morning, in preparation for this
game at Brazil, w TXF television Good Day Philadelphia co
(01:42:10):
host Mike Jerrick, who is seventy four years old, by
the way, decided to get in the mood apparently for
the game in Brazil, by undergoing a Brazilian wax on
live morning television. Not sure exactly where the wax occurred
(01:42:33):
because he was covered by a screen, his legs were
up in the air, and that's honestly all I'm gonna
tell you. But here is some of the audio of
him getting a live Brazilian wax on television.
Speaker 6 (01:42:51):
Hurts Alex HOLLI.
Speaker 11 (01:42:56):
Alex Holly, by the way, what it is co hosts
the show, so more questions than answers. Frankly back to you, guys.
Speaker 2 (01:43:07):
Very nicely done.
Speaker 4 (01:43:09):
I Low there he is Fox Sports Radio scut Down
to Kickoff, presented by Bett MGM rolls on.
Speaker 3 (01:43:15):
Hey.
Speaker 2 (01:43:15):
Shortly after the show, our podcast would be going up.
Speaker 4 (01:43:17):

Speaker 2 (01:43:31):
That's why I love ILOW. You just never know where
it's gonna go.
Speaker 4 (01:43:34):
We've got Brazilian waxes, you know, and scoring updates and
Jordan Love's knee status right like.
Speaker 7 (01:43:42):
I'm going to make a little you know, a truth
bomb here. I've I've gotten my back wax before. Oh
not very pleasant? Doesn't a pleasant experience? I've never didn't
go back for seconds, is what I'm no.
Speaker 3 (01:43:54):
Never again. I went to after that to get rid
of the hair.
Speaker 2 (01:43:57):
Never again, never again.
Speaker 11 (01:43:59):
Okay, So Jared, I'm sorry, and then rup can I
ask a technical question? And yeah, there's no follow up,
not not about you, but he claims it was a
Brazilian wax.
Speaker 3 (01:44:11):
The Brazilian wax is a bit different.
Speaker 7 (01:44:13):
Okay, the body part, I'll let the viewers figure the
listeners go, right.
Speaker 3 (01:44:19):
That's different than a wax wax.
Speaker 5 (01:44:20):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Like if we're going to put it
in car terms, I guess you could say Jared got
the roof of the car wax.
Speaker 2 (01:44:29):
What we were hearing there was the undercarriage, yeah, the undercarriage.
Speaker 4 (01:44:33):
Right yeah, Okay, all right, so I'll give you a
quarterback carousel.
Speaker 2 (01:44:41):
I don't know how to get back on track, just
just run with it, any easy segues.
Speaker 4 (01:44:47):
Yeah, I'll give you a quarterback dynamic to keep in
mind here today. Okay, So we're about i'd say a
little less than thirty minutes away from kickoff with Texas
and Michigan. The quarter back from last week was Davis Warren. Okay,
the Michigan QB I don't know if he's going to
be QB one the whole game. Okay, Like I'm looking
(01:45:11):
at his passing yardage prop. Bet it's one forty seven
and a half and that is uncommonly low. And I
don't think that's just a shout out to the Texas defense.
I just wonder if, listen, what if this scenario starts
to take shape. Michigan is just they're not running the
ball effectively. They're not able to throw it very well
(01:45:32):
with Davis Warren, and they bring in the backup quarterback
Alex Org who he thought was going to be the starter,
and they say, hey, maybe we can get a spark here.
They start to move the ball a little bit more.
Maybe Davis Warren doesn't last the whole game. Is that
radical to say we saw a little bit of this
last night. Now SMU does the musical quarterback thing against BYU,
(01:45:53):
where Preston Stone he gets the first two series and
then Kevin Jennings he gets the next two series.
Speaker 2 (01:45:59):
It's not the same.
Speaker 4 (01:46:00):
Dynamic is Michigan, but Preston Stone the starter. He completed
two or four passes for four yards the starter right,
and then it was the Kevin Jennings Show. So I
wonder if something similar happens with Davis Warren. If Michigan
is just not moving the ball in the first half,
don't be surprised if that happens.
Speaker 5 (01:46:19):
What's interesting about the time we're in in college football
now is it really all depends and it depends on
a couple of things. How comfortable the coach feels on
his seat, the temperature of the chair he's sitting in, right,
and so Michigan, that has to be considered obviously, because
(01:46:39):
we have a situation where Jim Harbaugh left there was controversy,
and you have a new man in the head coaching role.
So when you have a situation like that, he may
be looking over his shoulder and then you look at the.
Speaker 2 (01:46:53):
Nil situation, especially at that position.
Speaker 5 (01:46:56):
So it depends on how much money has been spent
on these starting quarterback and how much money has been spent.
Speaker 2 (01:47:02):
On the backup quarterback. So and also, by the way,
who spent the money.
Speaker 5 (01:47:08):
Was this a collective purchase or was there one wealthy
alumni donor who really went all in on a kid
or transfer who he was excited about or got pitched
by the program that he should be excited about donated
a good amount of money, and all of a sudden,
you have a situation where a wealthy donor who's not
on the sideline, who may not even be in the
(01:47:29):
suite at all the games, but can pick up a
cell phone and can use his or her cashier to say, hey,
why isn't my guy playing? Especially when the starter stinks.
So I'm telling you, there are gonna be quick hooks
for some of these these starting quarterbacks around college football.
Speaker 2 (01:47:47):
And it's because it isn't because of the old.
Speaker 5 (01:47:50):
The old sentiment like hey, you know, we got a
young guy and he's really battling it out at practice.
It could be because levers of power are pulled behind
the scenes money dogs.
Speaker 7 (01:47:59):
It's such a good point, because the dynamics in college
football are changing. Let's operate in a vacuum for a minute,
and let's assume that that isn't a factor today.
Speaker 3 (01:48:09):
And I'll try to address Brian's original point.
Speaker 7 (01:48:12):
Based on everything I've heard and read about Tron Moore
and how he feels about the offense, he kind of
feels like he's resigned to Davis Warren. And that's because
there just isn't much left in the cupboard. You got Tuttled,
the quarterback. They brought him from Indiana. He's hurt, he
can't play. You've got Orgy who is not a passing threat,
so he's only like his upside is limited, like he
(01:48:33):
has kind of a glass ceiling.
Speaker 3 (01:48:34):
I will say this, styles make fights.
Speaker 7 (01:48:38):
Yeah, And Brian used that phrase all the time, and
I love it because I think it holds true here.
What kind of style will Texas's defense show? Last week
we saw Pete Kwaikowski, defensive coordinator, whip out the New
Tampa two. They're playing a lot of nickel and dime
at Texas. That works if you're facing a passing offense
like Colorado State dat Horton that studdvers and you know
(01:49:00):
they had some guys on Colorado States offense that you know,
maybe Texas needed to back off the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (01:49:05):
What looks does kwai Kowski give Michigan.
Speaker 7 (01:49:07):
I'm assuming it's stacked the box and force Davis Warren
to beat them deep.
Speaker 3 (01:49:12):
We need to see that happen.
Speaker 7 (01:49:14):
If that starts to happen and all of a sudden,
Michigan takes a couple of shots even if.
Speaker 3 (01:49:18):
They aren't completed.
Speaker 7 (01:49:19):
Just show that you're willing to take shots down the field,
get that Texas defense to back up, and then you
need Donovan Edwards to just find the hole and figure
out a way to run the ball. That That is
the only way I see any sustained offense for Michigan
in this game. It's figuring out a way to get
Donovan Edwards going and then getting Lovelin the tight end
right in that Tampa two they like to drop, get
(01:49:41):
the tight end over the middle in space.
Speaker 3 (01:49:43):
He's their best weapon in the passing game.
Speaker 7 (01:49:46):
And yeah, Davis Warren, just the yards per tentp numbers
were so bad, Like he's got to be better. And
I'm assuming we do see Orgy at some point in
the change.
Speaker 3 (01:49:52):
Up role, but he just cannot throw the football.
Speaker 4 (01:49:54):
All right, We gotta go fast here, all right? We
want to work in the lions den.
Speaker 2 (01:49:59):
What the hell is that?
Speaker 4 (01:50:00):
Well, we're looking at who you are pinpointing to potentially
be Final four teams when it's all said and done.
So we're very very early in the season extra rapid
fire style because we've been gas baggery and we were
talking about Brazilian waxes for a while.
Speaker 2 (01:50:19):
Give me.
Speaker 4 (01:50:19):
Your your final four team, so you have circled right
here right now. We'll keep track of this during the season.
Speaker 2 (01:50:24):
What do you think?
Speaker 5 (01:50:25):
Okay, some of this is very chalky, but I have
one on the outside looking in right now who I love.
Notre Dame is that team. Okay, okay, I'm really impressed
with what's happened there. I love the leadership. I think
Riley Leonard is going to play his way into being
a comfortable, if not outstanding looking quarterback in that offense.
(01:50:46):
And then I'll round out the top four with Bama, Georgia,
and Ohio State.
Speaker 7 (01:50:51):
Okay, yeah, I think Georgia's one still, I think Ohio
State's two. That doesn't change. I think I put Bama three,
and I think I put Notre Dame four. I think
Texas is going to struggle today and I think they
might lose that game, so I think you'll see Texas
drop out.
Speaker 2 (01:51:04):
Wow, Okay, I look at it.
Speaker 4 (01:51:05):
Where listen, it's kind of shock at the beginning here
at Georgia and Ohio State because I look at it.
If you win your conference, you're gonna get a bye
as a power for school, and you have to win
one playoff game. To be a Final four team, so
it's a huge advantage there. So I would put Georgia
and Ohio State there. I like Utah to win their conference,
and they're outside the top ten right now, so maybe
(01:51:27):
not right on your radar to be a final four team.
But if they win their conference get a first round
by you got to win one game to be a
final four team, and with Cam rising back, I like
their chances of doing that. I would put Utah there. Gosh,
you're putting me in a position rich to shun my
irish Gosh, I don't like doing that, but I still
think they're probably gonna be either two Big ten or
(01:51:50):
two SEC teams that make it to the Final four.
And with that being said, I would go Texas. I
think Texas is just so talented. I don't like that
they're running backs. It's like the Drummer and Spinal Tap,
Like they just keep losing their running backs left and right.
You know, spinal Tap kept losing Drummers.
Speaker 3 (01:52:09):
I love that reference.
Speaker 2 (01:52:11):
I don't like that, but they're very, very talented.
Speaker 4 (01:52:14):
Outside of the Georgia game, I see a favorable path
to being a playoff team, and once they get there,
I like their chances.
Speaker 2 (01:52:22):
That's what I would go with. All right, Hey, pretty
rapid fire right there, nicely.
Speaker 3 (01:52:26):
Done, not much. Give us a couple of weeks and
we'll be able to expand on this a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:52:30):
I thought, oh, yeah, there you go. All right, hopefully
the Irish still have a goose egg and the Lord.
So we got to see some passing yards. Riley, come
on passing. One of my buddy, I'll tell you real fast.
I was one of my friends Jay at home in
South Bend. I was like, hey, man, what do you
think the Irish so far?
Speaker 2 (01:52:47):
He was like, I didn't know. Drew effing Pine was
still the quarterback. What is happening right here?
Speaker 7 (01:52:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:52:54):
Well we got to crank up the passing ability all right.
We got Rich Ornberger, Penn State All American, Jared Smith
FSR betting analyst. I'm Brian No. Coming up next, rapid
fire selections. We will each have three of them. We
keep track of this. We talk trash. We're highly offensive to.
Speaker 3 (01:53:13):
We got on the leader board. I'm all the leader
board throughout the season.
Speaker 2 (01:53:17):
Love it.
Speaker 3 (01:53:18):
Very excited I have and.
Speaker 4 (01:53:19):
With our selections, I have a devilish idea that crossed
my mind. Uh oh, I will mention that to you
right around the corner. It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown
to Kickoff presented by BETMGM. It is Fox Sports Radios
count Down to Kickoff presented by bet MGM all season long.
Betmgm's offering you a second chance on your first touchdown
(01:53:41):
bet in the NFL. When a customer places an NFL
wager on a first touchdown scoer bet and he doesn't
score first, but scores second, BETMGM will return one hundred
percent of their stake back in cash. Shout out to
the crew, our trusted producer Bo Ben and Chris Purfet
technical producer. Extraordinary, crushing the updates and crushing life, Isaac
(01:54:06):
loew and Kron Top of the Hour, up on game,
TJ Huschman, Zada, Plexico, Burus. They've got you covered in
just less than ten minutes. All right, we got some
picks to make.
Speaker 2 (01:54:16):
Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (01:54:20):
Rapid fire.
Speaker 2 (01:54:22):
All right, Jared, we start with you. What are you thinking, man?
Speaker 7 (01:54:26):
Yeah, let's start with this early game, starting a few
minutes here at the Dome. I'll take three points with
Syracuse hosting Georgia Tech. Kyle McCord looked good.
Speaker 3 (01:54:33):
Last week, sixty percent success rate in his debut.
Speaker 2 (01:54:35):
Of course, the.
Speaker 7 (01:54:36):
Ohio State transfer, Georgia Tech's win over Florida State not
looking as good after what the DoLS did last week.
And this is a long trip, a lot of travel
for Georgia Tech. Right they go to Ireland, they come
back home, they play an in state rival in Georgia State.
They barely covered that spread. Now you gotta go back
up to the dome, raucous environment. We'll see what the
(01:54:56):
crowd is like in the communication. I think this year
offense is ready to roll and I think they covered
the number, probably went out right against Georgia Tech. I
will take thirty seven and a half points with Western
Michigan Today they are at Ohio State. Bye bye buck guys.
So Ohio State has a bye next week. I expect
to see a lot of backups in the second half if.
Speaker 3 (01:55:18):
They get a lead.
Speaker 7 (01:55:18):
And hey, don't look now, but Western Michigan actually competed
against Wisconsin last week. They've got a good offensive line.
They can sustain a few drives. That's how you cover
a big number. I'll take thirty seven and a half
points with the Bronx and finally we talked about this game.
I'm laying it tonight with Oregon minus nineteen and a
half against boise A.
Speaker 3 (01:55:34):
Lot of travel for the Broncos.
Speaker 7 (01:55:35):
Go to Georgia Southern last week, you get blasted on defense,
you win the game. Now you got to go to
Austin and that Oregon offense is going to be fired
up after a very average performance against Idaho last week.
So Syracuse plus three, Western Michigan plus thirty seven and
a half, Oregon minus nineteen and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:55:53):
Love it all right.
Speaker 5 (01:55:54):
We had an awesome week last week, hit on two
props and win three and zero on rapid fire. That's
a five and zero week for old Tricky Dicky Ornberger
over here, the Undertaker is back. So Boise State on
the road in your geam facing Oregon, give me the
under sixty one and a half. Oregon struggled to score
(01:56:15):
points in their Week one matchup. I think they're gonna
be a little sluggish out the gates to start this season.
A lot a lot of new for this Ducks team.
Boise State is going to try to shorten the game
with their rushing attack. I'll take the under sixty one
and a half. Colorado at Nebraska. Here's the problem for Colorado.
Nebraska is going to do the same thing to Colorado
(01:56:39):
that Boise is going to do to Oregon. A lot
of passing, close line of scrimmage, try to take advantage
of the deep part of the field opportunistically. I see
the under hitting in this game too. Total set at
fifty five and a half, it stays under there. And
then you have the Bulls in Bama USF going to
(01:57:00):
the Crimson Tide getting thirty one.
Speaker 2 (01:57:03):
I'll take the points. So Bama.
Speaker 5 (01:57:06):
Much to the point you made about Ohio State, Jared,
I think are gonna rest some starters ahead of the
bulk of their schedule coming up once they get an
early lead, and the.
Speaker 2 (01:57:15):
Bulls don't get blown out by huge numbers. If you
look at them last season, that's not That's not usually
what goes down. So I got the Bulls getting thirty
one on the road.
Speaker 4 (01:57:25):
Okay, So my devilish idea because I went three and
oh last week and my guy Jared Smith went two
and one. Oh boy, I thought about just shadowing every
one of Jared's picks throughout the entire seats. I do it,
and then you know Jared'd be like, hey, you know
for the season, I'm sixty and forty. I'd be like, funny,
I'm sixty one and thirty nine. I did the thought
(01:57:46):
crossed my mind.
Speaker 3 (01:57:47):
I'm not gonna do that. Yeah, you get to go last,
so you get last list.
Speaker 2 (01:57:50):
Hey, you settled down in there, gas bag. I don't
have time over you. I don't have time for this.
Speaker 4 (01:57:54):
Kentucky minus nine and a half. Okay, South Carolina's offense
not very good. Kentucky has NFL dudes on defense. I'll
lay the nine and a half. Give me Arkansas quarterback
Taylor Green rushing for over thirty five and a half
yards today against Oklahoma State. He's the Boise State transfer.
They allow a lot of explosive plays, and give me
(01:58:14):
the corn Huskers. I'm putting my money where my mouth is.
I'll lay the six and a half. I think they
wreck Colorado tonight
