We are now fully entrenched into the football season. A
huge day of college football going on right now. We'll
get you updated on all the scores. We've had some
(00:37):
dominant performances, we got some possible upsets brewing right now.
But it was also the beginning this week of the
NFL season, Thursday opener between the Chiefs and the Ravens,
followed by the game in Brazil yesterday between the Packers
and the Eagles and Monsey. The NFL could not ask
more from two games to kick off the NFL season.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Agree Both exciting, both high scoring, drama involved from beginning
to end. Luckily, the drama that happened last night is
not as bad as it could have been, and we'll
get into that.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
But agreed, what a way to kick off the season.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Even though I still don't understand why we went to Brazil.
I still I still like, don't get it.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Well, and there were the legality was overwhelming. I mean
teams were not even allowed to leave their hotels. Yeah,
so there was security problems. There was all kinds of
problems related to that game. And of course, unless you
got peacocky didn't see the game.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Another issue, and this isn't that I don't think we
should have NFL games internationally.
Speaker 5 (01:37):
I'm just why Brazil is the you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (01:41):
My question here's the thing again.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
I'm you when you look at the National Football League
and how many cities would die to have an NFL
team in them. I mean, if you just look at
population wise, the seventh most populated city America is San Antonio, Texas,
and number eight is San Diego, California. And neither one
of these cities has a team right now. And you
(02:06):
can go the long list of cities around the America
that would love to have an NFL team, And yet
we talk about possible expansion to London and you know
wherever they're talking about, And I'm just like, why are
we so set? I get that you look at the
NBA and all the money it comes in overseas. Of
course the large share that's coming out of China, which
(02:29):
can be a problem, but be it as it may.
The NFL is saying, all right, we're already making zillions.
Obviously we own this country from a sports standpoint, can
we get it done internationally? And my response is simply,
this football is what we call soccer in this country.
Only the rest of the world refers it to a
(02:51):
football that's their football. We have American football, and I
don't see why we have to venture outside of this
country considering the riches that are being bestowed upon this sport,
the National Football League just in this country.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
You know, I understand it.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Obviously it's money and the same thing as to why
they went to Brazil. But the reason I'm stuck on
Brazil and it has nothing to do even with the
extremities that they had to go through. Don't leave your hotel,
I read, don't walk around with your cell phone in
your hand. If you get a message from someone you
don't recognize, don't respond a bunch of stuff.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
It's just in Brazil. Their main language is Portuguese, so.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Not even English or Spanish and so I just you
in other places, it's like, yeah, the language, everyone can communicate.
So I found it interesting that I was like, Brazil,
does Brazil care to watch an NFL game?
Speaker 5 (03:40):
I didn't from what I heard the audience because I
didn't watch the.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Game because I was on Peacock, because I don't pay
for Peacock. I can't just pay for all the streaming services.
But from my understanding, the crowd was not as into it.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Well, they're not educated.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
I mean when you look at our London games over
the years, well now it's been you know, decades that
we've been doing that. So yeah, they built an NFL
audience over that period of time. Look, they used to
have NFL Europe, which was a minor league system essentially
for the National Football a for many years and did
quite well. But yeah, I mean you're going to a
country Brazil, which is one of the soccer capitals of
(04:17):
their planet. It is more than a religion. I mean,
they've won four World Cups, so I mean that's that
is their sport in Brazil, more.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Than a religion, More than a religion.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
I mean, that was still that.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Unfortunately for some it's liverly been do or die, literally
do or die. Let's go back to Thursday, the first
game between the Chiefs and the Ravens. This of course
was a rematch of last year's AFC Championship game, and
we were just flummixed by the Ravens game plan in
that game where they decided, let's see if Lamar Jackson
(04:51):
can match Patrick Mahomes pass or pass. I'm like, why
would you do that? It was a disaster in what
was a one score game. It just didn't makes sense.
It wasn't like they were down three touchdowns, we got
a pass, got to come back.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Was worst game plan ever.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
This game, we were reminded again why Lamar Jackson is
a two time MVP, because he has a skill set
that is unique to him over every other quarterback in
this league. And he had almost four hundred yards of
total offense between passing, which he did well. He ran,
like we see Lamar Jackson over well over one hundred
(05:26):
yards running in this game. And it came down to
one final play. I mean when that was an amazing
catch by Likely and now he had just come back
in the game after the injury, and you're just like,
I'm looking at his feet like he did. He got
his feet down. You see John Harbut saying let's go
for two. Let's go for two ready, and they're like, oh,
this is gonna be great.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
And then they show the replay and his toes on
it really was.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
There was no there, There was no turning that because
it was clear as day.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
It was clear.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
See.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
The reason you have white there is if there was
any any sliver green, you would see it, right, any
sliver green.
Speaker 5 (06:04):
There was not.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
And you know that's that's how close they came to
maybe losing that game. The Chiefs Mahomes played well, but
to me, the guy that I came away impressed with
those Lamar Jackson that game.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
Lamar Jackson kept them in the game single handedly. Yeah,
and you know, to give him credit in what was
a minute fifty seconds, no timeouts, driving them downfield. Literally
a toe is what stopped them from tying the game,
possibly winning with that two point conversion. The question I
have is why they went away from Derrick Henry so
early in the game opening drive.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
He gets in there and.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
You're all right, King Henry, And the only reason is
because Lamar did take some hard hits. He carried that
team and drove them down the field and all that
and was so good, but Game one, I would not
want my quarterback getting hits like that every game.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Well, here's where a guy like Dereck Henry's going to
pay huge dividends for this Ravens team.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
He looked good, he ran well, he didn't run that much.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
But where he really becomes a super valuable piece in
your offense is when you have a lead. When you're
in that fourth quarter and you got a touchdown lead,
and you start barreling that two hundred and fifty pounds
running back down the throats of defenses, he will literally
almost sing a hand only run out of clock.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
That is where Derek cander.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
I mean, when you look back at those Titans teams
that he was on, they didn't have much of a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
It was really him.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
But if you watched, they were able to close games
out because Derek Henry would just knock over defenses in
the second half.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Don't disagree with you on that.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
I just feel like they went away from him a
little early when he can also drain your defense or
the opposing team's defense, and they took him out and
I felt like it was a close game for the
most part that is, like, why don't you have him
out there getting that defense tired. I understand that maybe
he's not as explosive as he once was, especially not
like Lamar Jackson in any way perform, but I thought
(08:01):
they went away from him too early when he could
have just hired the Chiefs defense maybe Chris Jones a
little bit more than they did.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
But you know, it's game one.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Here's the interesting thing about the Chiefs offense.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
By the way, what a show they put on right
where the fire works, I mean, the flyover, I mean
it was it was crazy villa at.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
After it was pouring rain like all of that was
nice to see.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Yeah, I was delayed, the game was delayed obviously and
everything else. But the Chiefs. You feel like the Chiefs
score when they have to score. Yes, Like you know,
at the beginning of the game, after you know, the
Ravens had that great opening drive, they six to seven
minute drive, perfect right one way to you know, you know,
(08:46):
somehow neutralized Mahomes keep them off the field. And then
the Chiefs get there and they went right down the
field like five plays boom, And you get the sense
of the Chiefs that that's the way their offense runs,
and so when they're leading, sometimes it looks like their
offense isn't doing a whole lot.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
But it's like, are they really trying?
Speaker 5 (09:06):
Right?
Speaker 4 (09:06):
Sometimes I wonder that too, Is it that they're not
trying to show all their cards?
Speaker 5 (09:10):
Yes, so it's like, hey, just keep it close.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
And I feel like this year we may see them
actually lose some games because I think they're like, let's
get in the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
Let's just get to.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Last year Monci.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
They struggled off in the way a lot in the
first half of the season, but then when the game
started to count, all of a sudden, that offense showed
up again.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Yeah, but it is like, all right, we are going
to play just based on how this game is going.
Speaker 5 (09:34):
We don't want to show all our cards.
Speaker 2 (09:35):

Steve Harban, Monci Belanos here Fox Football Saturday and we
are coming live from the tire Raq dot com studios.
Notre name is in trouble, Notre Dame is in trouble
right now, home game for the fifth ranked team in
the country against Northern Illinois. We are inside eight minutes
to go in the fourth quarter and Notre Dame is
(11:12):
clinging to a one point lead, fourteen to thirteen. Now,
Notre Dame just got the ball back on a punt,
but offensively they have been doing anything in this game.
So we'll keep our eye and a potential upset there
in Notre Dame, not South Bend.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
People don't know this.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Notre Dame Stadium's actually in Notre Dame, Indiana, not in
South Bend, Indiana. South Bend is the city that Notre
Dame sits in, but the stadium technically is a Notre Dame, Indiana.
These are the kind of things I know that nobody cares.
Speaker 5 (11:41):
I thank you.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
I'll tell you that somebody that everything he has to
say people care about. He is our Fox Sports Radio
NFL insider Adam Kaplan is joining us right now. While
Adam Wontcey and I open up the show by saying,
could the NFL have asked any more of the first
two games of the season going into a big Sunday tomorrow,
So let's start with the biggest story of the day.
(12:03):
It looked in the moment like a season ender for
Jordan Love. It seems like there's some positive news about
the injury he suffered late in that game against the Eagles.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
What's the update.
Speaker 8 (12:14):
Yeah, So my understanding is, first of all, he took
he got the Lockman test. You're on the field or
heading into the locker room, which is when you test
for loose ligaments. Youre talking about Jordan Love, and that
rolls out. If they could they know right away if
the ACLS impacted, then that you have the MRI, which
he had today, and he'll go through more testing. So
(12:37):
if you look at the video, the side of his knee,
which is the MCL side, got impacted and the final
testing will determine what degree of Terry has. If it's
a mid level tear, you're looking maybe around four weeks.
The hope is it's not any worse than that. But
this is devastating the Packers not only lose the game
the leak. Willis is not ready to play based on
(13:00):
what I know about him, and he was going to
be the third string quarterback. Fac that forget third string,
the Titans would have cut him. Milik Wills did not
have a good training camp. The only thing about Milik
Willis's is you've got a strong arm. He could run
a little bit, but never been a great processor. Struggled mightily.
And it's interesting they don't have another quarterback on the
fifty three men roster. Sean Clifford out of Penn State,
(13:22):
a fourth rounder last year, is on the practice squad.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
Adam, you know you're a host of inside the birds,
so I'm sure you Eagles fans, fantasy managers that have.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
A stave fan.
Speaker 5 (13:33):
Just to be clear, you're not okay since you cover them.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
I feel like there's a little bit of love there, right.
I was assuming game, assuming just because.
Speaker 5 (13:40):
You cover them.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
It's hard to I've noticed that when I cover something,
it's hard to not have love for them. So, you know,
fantasy managers probably really happy with Saquon Barkley only week one,
But do you think what he did is sustainable? Is
he going to be that impactful for the next sixteen weeks?
Speaker 3 (13:57):
Well, here's the thing.
Speaker 8 (13:58):
If you take away the two touch down runs, really not.
He was averaging less than three and a half yards
per car. They actually bottled it up pretty well. But
the way those explosive plays were huge, and you saw
the special quality Manci that he has, his ability to
squeeze the hole get through there with explosives. His jump
cut was unbelievable. In fact, I have the ability on
(14:21):
my TV to have my own slow motions. So I
played it back immediately, I'm like, wait, did that just happen?
And I played it back I was like, yeah, wow,
that was pretty amazing. So yeah, look, it was a
good win. The thing that disappointed me, and again I
don't understand this the slickness of the field.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
What's interesting.
Speaker 8 (14:39):
So the word around the game was that everything's great,
very similar field to what the Packers have in lambeau Field.
And it wasn't very hot. It was very humid though
it was the humidities around eighty five to ninety percent.
And the slickness of the field, guys, was embarrassing. That
that can't happen. Someone here could have gotten hurt. Now,
(15:02):
the love injury had nothing to do with it, but
you really, I mean Barkley's first car, you saw him slipped.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
That can't happen.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Okay, I know why the game was in Brazil was
all about money and no other reason. They could give
a hell about the player's health or anything else. But seriously,
I mean, where's the NFL going with this? I mean,
you know, for years, we've had games in London, We've
had games in Mexico, We've had games in Germany, We've
had games Brazil.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
I mean, what's next?
Speaker 2 (15:30):
I mean, why is the NFL the richest sport in
this country, making billions, billions, billions and billions and billions
of dollars of these owners seemingly hell bent on, as
you say, potentially injuring players in games to be played
in Brazil. Where does the thought process? Where's the end
(15:50):
game with this?
Speaker 8 (15:51):
Well, Steve, you know, I'm not going to defend them,
but it's not like they intentionally did anything. It's like
they tested it. They didn't think this had happened, but
it happened, and they obviously have to do a better job,
as you're mentioning, of protecting their players. So one thing
you should know, and this has happened in the last
three to four years. So the Eagles have territorial rights
in Brazil and this is techically a home game for them.
(16:11):
Now I could tell you they could have clined to
have it there and have it in Lincoln Financials Field. Now,
so the Eagles lose a home game back at the
Link and that's disappointing. Now they play next Monday night,
they'll they will be at home and they will host
the Falcons who play tomorrow at home against the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
But this is not going to stop.
Speaker 8 (16:31):
No, with territorial rights overseas, you're going to continue to
see more and more and more international games. It's not
going to stop. But they've got to get this field
thing straighten out, and they've got to take this seriously.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
You know it.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
If you remember two years ago in the.
Speaker 8 (16:44):
Super Bowl when they Cheats beat the Eagles, the Eagles
were severely impacted their past rush, Yeah, because they were slipping.
And I know the Eagles did all they could not
to blame the field, but at some point the league
has got to say, Okay, look, we think we're doing
a right job. We're obviously missing something. That's the thing
there there. They were not willing to take responsibility for
(17:05):
that last one. I'm curious they put on any statement
out this time around.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Adam, how would you rate the officiating in these first
two games?
Speaker 8 (17:13):
A lot of flags last.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Night, by the way, what was up with that illegal formation.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
Well, I was watching the Chiefs tackles were lined up
in the exact same spot as the Ravens tackles and
didn't get called.
Speaker 8 (17:26):
If funny you say that, because that's what the Ravens
were saying. The players were saying that, why didn't you
call it on them? If Ronnie Stanley got nailed the
left tackle veteran left tackle three times, Lane Johnson, he
goes right tackle got nailed last night. You could see
it was frustrated. See, I know the league tells of
the They usually do this, by the way, because I've
actually been in these meetings, usually tell the players, look,
well we're at practice today, We're going to call it
(17:47):
if we see it to help you out. We'll also
call it more in the preseason to make sure you
guys are knowing it. That way, it won't happen the
regular season. Well, you just had it. That's not good football.
Now both games, as you let off with, you're right
or terrific both games. I mean, obviously the isay likely
will we'll we'll never forget that if he gets his
feed and we're going overtime. That was an incredible performance. Likely,
(18:09):
by the way, you got to watch this thing Manzi
mentioned for fantasy people. Likely is one of the few
backup NFL tight ends are actually pretty good for fantasy.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
He's a terrific athlete. And by the way, I sold
this in.
Speaker 8 (18:18):
Training camp, they're playing a ton of twelve personnel, which
means two tight ends and.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Two receivers and one back. Likely is a guy to
watch out.
Speaker 8 (18:25):
I don't think that he's not gonna have a game
like this every time, but he's probably gonna be more
active than most backup tight ends.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
All right, let's talk about like some of the games
coming up, and I'm gonna skip all the way to
Monday night.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
I got to get some Aaron Rodgers talk.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Now, last week I had to restrain myself, Adham, because
you were really talking up the Jets, and I.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
Know, I really killed on it.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
I am so far on the other spectrum. But I mean, seriously,
he didn't take a single snap in the preseason.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
We haven't seen him since he left the field with
that achilles and he's going against a pretty good team
in the.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Forty nine ers.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
What exactly are you expecting from Aaron Rodgers and the
Jets offense?
Speaker 3 (19:01):
On Monday.
Speaker 9 (19:02):
All right.
Speaker 8 (19:02):
One of the things Steve and spending time with them
really at the end of their training camp, they're hosting
the Giants for a joint practice. A couple weeks ago,
they put it out a couple things to me, and look,
they don't want to take shots at their former offensive line.
But Tyron Smith. Now I know Tyron Smith, borderline Hall
of Famer. We know about the injury history for Shano.
(19:23):
Their first round left tackle for Shaa will eventually replace
Tyron Smith at left tackle. But so they solved the
left tackle problem. They tried Dwayne Brown, he was hurt
his entire tenure. They reacquired Morgan Moses, he's the right tackle,
veteran Vera Tucker's healthy. The right guard, John Simpson is
a solid left guard. And they got Joe Tipman was
the second round of last year. And there was a
(19:44):
running joke Steve within the coaching staff of every backup
that they brought back on their offensive line all started
last year because they had to. They ran out of
offensive lineman. They love Garrett Wilson. I'm told with Mike
Williams he's going to play. It's just a matter of
how many snaps. The medical staff will allow him to
have Alan Lazard, who was complete bussed last year ten
(20:07):
million fully guaranteed this season. He's back with Rogers. He's
kind of been reborn. The coaching staff believes defensively, great front,
really good secondary.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
The one issue.
Speaker 8 (20:17):
Though, that I would have, I guess, is really at
the safety position, not real playmakers, not much there depthit.
The cornerback position is just okay. But overall, guys, you're
asking me, this is a really good roster. Special teams
coach terrific, dec coordinator terrific. It's look, the pressure's on.
There's no there's no doubt, folks. The pressure is on
(20:39):
this coaching staff. They could deflect it, but they know
not only do they have to make the playoffs, they're
going to have to do something.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
How are they feeling about Hassan Reddick?
Speaker 8 (20:48):
Well, all right, here's the real story with Reddick. Okay,
here's just a real story with Reddick.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
I love real stories.
Speaker 8 (20:55):
He told them that he was going to report like
this is me and another reporter put this out and
I'll just tell you what I know. So he told
the front office once they could not get the extension
done right at the time of the trade. That's okay, guys,
I'll play this season. I'm paraphrasing. This is what he's
explained to me by someone who was informed of it,
who worked for the team. That's okay, I'll ball out
(21:16):
this this year and I'll get my contract next year.
So they're expecting men, Well, he decides he's not going
to show up. Now here's the problem. Their their tension
was never to extend once they couldn't get an extension done.
They as I understand it, that had he reported, they
would have been willing to adjust his contract make him
happy for list of this season. Well, now you cannot
(21:37):
rescind veterans fines, and you're talking about it's going to
be by the time he reports, if he ever does,
would be well over it's well over two million. Now
he's so he loses of his fourteen point five million.
He's going to lose too, so he's down at twelve
and a half million. Guys, this is not smart and
this is it's unfortunate and a son's great off the field,
(21:58):
very charitable. The Eagles kind of didn't want to extend
his contract, as I understand it, they had a difference
of opinion, and he kind of wore out a welcome
and be honce with it. With the Eagles, they just were,
they were kind of done and they moved on. And
that's the Jets problem.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Final note here, the kickoff rule is a big bust.
After two games, only five of the twenty four kickoffs
were actually returned, which is actually a lower percentage than
we see.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
Now, let's get a full weekend.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
But are you expecting any team to unveil something, because
whether they like it or not, they're stuck with this
all season long. So I mean, at some point, somebody's
got to figure something out, Steve, in order to utilize
this rule in a positive way. All right.
Speaker 8 (22:43):
So I was at the demonstration at the owner's meetings
with the competition committee, and they had me convinced based
on all the data that they gave us, based on
the three special teams coaches who spoke and showed video
and assured us that because things are going to be
different than the return the dual returners will get a
running start, that the very least would be returned to
(23:05):
the forty they're expecting. Sixty percent, Steve, was the number
I was given. Sixty percent of the kickoff's return. Well,
we're not close to that now.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
I know.
Speaker 8 (23:12):
It's only two games. Yeah, but it's not been exciting
because you know, Roger Goodell, for all the criticism he gets,
he's real big on the fans fan interest in getting
putting stuff at exciting into the game. It's one of
the things I like about Roger. I have my criticisms
of him, but I definitely believe he's a sort of
fan friendly in that in that way, once what the
fans want?
Speaker 3 (23:30):
This doesn't look good.
Speaker 8 (23:31):
Now again, it's only two games, and I would I
want to see Keyshaw Nixon the kickoff returners true for
the Packers return one big for the against the Eagles.
That didn't happen. We'll see. But you're right to point
it out. It's fair, it's fair game. It's it's not
looked good so far.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
Andy Reid's like, the hell, will they just kick it
out of the end zone? Bucker? I don't care, Well,
that's what's happening. I know there's just like Bucker, Bucker.
Speaker 8 (23:52):
But but you got two of the best kickers in
one and it's going to make a Hall of Fame
with Tucker. What's part of it? And the Eagles user
punted by the way, Brandon Man that was surprising. They
used to punted it for kick offs instead of Jake
to make Elliott That was interesting.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
Great stuff.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
By the next week ATAM, obviously we're gonna have a
full slate of games. Cannot wait for tomorrow Monday off
and running.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
We are.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
It's looking good for the NFL. And keep our fingers crossed.
Jordan Love is not more seriously hurt.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
Great stuff, Adam. We'll talk to you next week. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
That's Adam Kaplan our Fox Sports Radio NFL Insider.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Now let's find out.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
What is a trending And this is a man that
again Moncie, he has many, many jobs in this industry
and one of them is doing postgame UCLA football talk.
And Brian Finley apparently just went on a rant. Not
(24:49):
about the current team, although you could have done that
after a very dismal performance against the White but you
went after their former coach now the offensive coordinator at
Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
And you're asking me, why did I do that?
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Yeah, it seems like an interesting direction to go after
a pretty miserable performance.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
And he can outa win against Lully Hawaii.
Speaker 10 (25:07):
First of all, it's one game, and I don't think
we can judge what they did in that game as
to say that it's going to be a typical, a
typical like performance in all of the upcoming games. Yeah,
I don't think we can say that. But I look
at Deshaun Foster, the UCLA A head coach. I see
a guy who actually really cares, and I see a
guy who isn't just showing up for a paycheck. And
(25:27):
I wanted to make that clear, because yes, it was
scary the way that that game ended, and fortunately UCLA won.
But what I was going to come out and say
if UCLA didn't win, is that the losing. If it
was a loss, the losing isn't as bad when you
have somebody that went there that is doing everything that
he has in his own power.
Speaker 6 (25:46):
Too.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
You felt like chim Kelly went through the motions for form, Yeah, who.
Speaker 10 (25:49):
Cares about recruiting, and Chip Kelly did, it's amazing when
you put some time into recruiting, how different it is.
And I said, basically, I said, you know, chip Kelly,
you know is that guy who's forty years old.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
And again this is an analogy.
Speaker 10 (26:02):
He's the forty year old who walks around with the
varsity jacket on and still thinks like he's relevant. And
again we're going back to something he did when he
was at Oregon one hundred years ago. And I'm just
grateful that UCLA football is in good hands right now.
Essentially Monsie and Steve is what I'm trying to say.
Speaker 5 (26:17):
Yeah, that was a great comparison.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
Thank you, so good, thank you. Yeah. I had a
couple others, but I'll h.
Speaker 5 (26:23):
That was good, appropriate, good job.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
Yeah, yeah, for sure.
Speaker 10 (26:27):
I'll never forget the time that the one time I
interviewed with Chip Kelly and.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
He didn't look at me once. It was on one.
Speaker 10 (26:35):
He was on his phone the whole time, that type.
I don't think he even looked at me once. But
you know what's amazing is that we all try to
be good multitaskers. He's texting, he's looking through his Internet
while answering questions about the team while I'm there in
his office one on one.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
It was impressive.
Speaker 5 (26:49):
Sure, yeah that's the word.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly exactly. We'll leave it there.
Speaker 10 (26:53):
Hey, but you were talking about the Packers and yet
Jordan loved good news for him. According to multiple outlets
that the injury that he suffered last night in Brazil
against the Eagles not as bad as initially presumed. It
is an MCL spring, not an ACL issue, so he
is due to return according to those reports. Three to
six weeks from now, tons of college football happening, including
(27:16):
number eleven Utah right now playing on Fox Television against Baylor.
It is twenty three to twelve Utah right now converting
on a forty three yard or at least they attempted
one and they missed it. Big story from this game
is that Cam Rising, the Utah quarterback, the ageless wonder
seven years in did not return. He has been ruled
out for the second half because of an injury to
(27:38):
his hand. So that is a significant storyline. Also, what's
going on between number five Notre Dame and Northern Illinois.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Yeah, we're watching this game right now. Northern Illinois relate.
The twenty stays on is free to class the ten.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
And it's a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
Unbelievable run from shar Omayah.
Speaker 11 (27:57):
Love walked on water, left through.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
Air and he finds paydirt for six.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
I'm sorry about that. Be fed good because I'm watching
this game right now. And we got forty seconds left.
I'm stud No, there's a minute and a half left.
Notre Dame is clinging to this one point lead, but
Northern Illinois is definitely now into field goal position to
steal this game. Yeah, they've got a third and two
(28:25):
at the Notre Dame twenty yard line, and so yeah,
we'll have to continue to monitor what goes on there.
But yeah, that would not be good for number five
Notre Dame. I know you spend a lot of time
at Notre Dame.
Speaker 10 (28:34):
I don't know what you were doing up there at
some library, spending time in the.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
Stats vault there.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
I grew up a trojan, I became a bruin. My
hatred of Notre Dame knows no limits. I admire their program,
but I never root for Notre Dame.
Speaker 10 (28:51):
Okay, ever, ununderstandable, I sent some jealous oldiers see them
possibly lose at home to Northern Illinois. Yes, yeah, Number
twenty one Iowa leading Iowa State nineteen to seventeen, nine
to forty three to go in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
We're looking at college football.
Speaker 10 (29:07):
Of course, Number six Ole Miss is taking it to
Middle Tennessee thirty one to three. About halfway through the
third quarter in revs. QB, Jackson dar two hundred and
fifty four yards through the air still in the first quarter,
and number twelve Miami has a fifteen to three leading
against Florida A and M. We also have some completed
games with Sarahcuse looking forward to hearing how their quarterback
(29:30):
might fit in your Heisman watches. Of course, you can't
forget about that with Steve and I think he has
a Heisman vote something like that.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
Might have heard that one.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
I don't like to really bring a lot of attention
to it, but yeah, I.
Speaker 10 (29:41):
Do, yeah, yeah, unless you do like to bring a
lot of attention to it, and you do do give
a lot of attention to it. A thirty one to
twenty eight Syracuse winning over number twenty three Georgia Tech
and Kyle McCord, the quarterback for the Orange three hundred
and eighty one yards passing four touchdowns. Wins for number
seventeen Kansas State, also number sixteen Oklahoma State. They did
it in double overtime against Arkansas thirty nine to thirty one.
(30:04):
Number eight pen State holds on thirty four to twenty
seven Number one Georgia. They scheduled this game against Texas
Tech forty eight to three, Carson Beck five touchdown tosses
in number three Texas over number ten Michigan thirty one
to twelve. Lastly, Monty and Steve, we cannot forget it
was the women's championship at the US Open.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Yes, so we had an.
Speaker 10 (30:24):
American Jessica Pagoula. She was up a break late in
the second set and then it all went the wrong
way for her.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Arena.
Speaker 10 (30:32):
Sabalanca wins a pair of seven to five sets to
take the US Open from the American Pagoula.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
Well, Pagola, Look, she upset the number one woman in
the world. Uh, Sabalanca has been knocking on the door,
you know, so she was sort of due, But I mean,
I the Pagola story is amazing. Yeah, daughter of a billionaire,
obviously the owner of the bills and on her own,
you know, she has built a very successful tennis career.
So yeah, congrats to her to get to the fire
(31:00):
and all of the US up. That's a major kaplosh.
Speaker 10 (31:01):
Another American who Emma Navarro, who is the daughter of
a billionaire, and of course her father has a lot
of association with the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
Yep.
Speaker 10 (31:10):
So yeah, I think that women's America tennis is in
good hands. And like you said, yeah, I mean they
grow up in certain places, but you can't.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Teach the hard work that they have.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (31:23):
Yeah, they might be given an advantage, but to no
extent was that handed to them? And how they were
able to go out there on the front line to
do what they're doing in tennis, that's all them.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
Does Navarro get as much hate as Pagula because it probably.
Speaker 5 (31:36):
Get so much hate she does, and it's not fair.
It's not fair. I don't understand it.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
Yeah, she had the means, but she still has to
deliver and has to go through the work ethic that
not everybody has in Monts.
Speaker 10 (31:47):
You said it because it actually she is quote unquote
in tennis, a laid bloomer. Like you know, she's again
longer careers now, but she's right around thirty years old
and now she's really starting to get into groove. When
you thought, okay, when you're early twenties, that's when you're
supposed to be hitting your stride. Not only is she
dealing with all that hate, but she's had to be
so patient and she continues to refine her craft, and
(32:09):
now look at where she is. She's a finalist, and
you just hope at one point she can cross the
line and finally hoist the trophy for a major.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
All right, well, thank you very much to be f
having great stuff as always. All right, so much so,
let's keep our eye on what's going on in this
Notre Dame Northern Illinois game. We got thirty six seconds left,
Northern Illinois had a third and two, and they're reviewing
the play right now to see whether or not the
running back got the first down. Now, based on where
that first down marker is, it looks to me like
(32:39):
he clearly got the first down. But at this point
it really doesn't matter because all Northern Illinois is doing
is trying to get a little bit closer in what
is already a very makeable field goal. So at this point,
you're looking at anywhere between a thirty five and a
thirty seven yard field goal attempt.
Speaker 4 (32:55):
Yes, yes, yes, not looking good for Notre Dame in
this exact moment, because I agree, it looks like.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
You got it.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Yeah, So again we're keeping either they're reviewing the play,
whether he gets a first down or not.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
I guess they could run a little more clock.
Speaker 5 (33:08):
I wouldn't be it, yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Which would mean they maybe get a few more yards.
I'm looking here. They have two timeouts left, Northern Illinois.
Notre Dame has one time out left, so they're reviewing
the play and what are they calling? It is a
first down? All right, So first down for Northern Illinois,
and this obviously would be a monumental upset. Notre Dame
(33:32):
open the season in style with a road victory against
Texas A and M not an easy place. Northern Illinois
is bringing their kicker on right now, and I don't
blame them.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
I mean, why waste wait, let's go?
Speaker 2 (33:45):
No, no, no, I guess they said he didn't get the
first down, so it is fourth down, it is fourth down,
thirty five yard field goal attempt. It is up and
it is oh I didn't get he got in so
Northern Illinois. So yeah, they ruled he was shorter of
the first down, mean it was fourth down, so that
forced the field goal attempt. So now, with thirty one
(34:07):
seconds remaining, Northern Illinois has taken a sixteen to fourteen
lead over Notre Dame. All right, Well, much more on
this game and on the other side, my latest one
two three in the Heisman race. This is Fox Football Saturday.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Steve Harvey, montzieblanios here at Fox Football Saturday. It is
over Notre Dame attempting a sixty two yard field goal
to try to win back this game from Northern Illinois,
and it was blocked. So Northern Illinois goes in the
Notre Dame stadium and stuns the fighting Irish, the number
(34:55):
five rank Notre Dame, fighting Irish go down and defeat.
That is your said so far of this college football season.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
I mean the emotion right now from the Huskies coaching staff.
Huh oh this might is this maybe one of their
biggest easy easy.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
I'm Northern Illinois actually has some pretty decent moments in
there in football history, but to go into Notre Dame
against the fifth rank fighting Irish and pulling off the win,
it's got to be the highlights. So huge win from
Northern Illinois, devastating loss for Notre Dame.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
All right, it's that time, all right, once again, moncey.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
For those that do not know, for the fifteenth year,
I am a proud voter for the Heisman Trophy.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
I'm one of the one of the elites.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
I like to say, that actually has an actual Heisman vote.
Speaker 5 (35:49):
Man, it's like I learn it every every week. I
learned you have a Heisman vote.
Speaker 12 (35:54):
Again.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
I don't like to overplay it, but then I do,
all right.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
So what I do each week is I give you
a three one of where I stand currently.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
And this is always up to the moment.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
By the way, Thomas Hammock, the head coach of Northern Illinois,
is being interviewed right now.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
He's got tears in his eyes.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Wow, an emotional moments to bring his team in and
win at Notre Dame. This is the beauty of college football.
You don't see this. I'm sorry you don't see this
in the NW.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
You really don't like. I am so touched. I've got goosebumps. Okay,
go go.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
He's sobbing right now, and for good reason. All right,
So here is my current number three second down of eight,
the Wolverine twenty one home.
Speaker 11 (36:34):
The time end ships in motion from left to right,
hughes from the gun, has the snap play action, walks
into person.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
Now it's running her, but.
Speaker 11 (36:41):
Folks flee ins on film touchdown Texas. Quinn You were
stepped up in the pocket and fire to strike down
the center of the field on the Tinmey end gunner
Hilm has the.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
First little born score of the game. All right, So
that's Craig WHI are right there. He is uh with Larfield,
Texas right there. And Quinn you quarterback for Texas. He
had three touchdown passes and their big win on the
road against defending national champion Michigan. Should add four. He
had one wrongfully taken away by a bogus holding call
early in that game. But Quinn you Weres Texas quarterback
(37:16):
is my current number three.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
Here is my current number two. In a slipper of sunshine,
takes a snap, looks to his right, pumps, looks middle,
throws across the Mit' Connor Ryan for a touchdown.
Speaker 11 (37:30):
Seventeen yard touchdowns right and just like that, Ryan is
a jump start the warrant.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
That's Miami Hurricanes Radio network cam wore the Miami Hurricanes
quarterback already today, by the way, after throwing for three
hundred and eighty five yards in the swamp last week
against Florida. They're playing Florida A and M right now.
They just started the second quarter. He's ten of eleven
for one hundred and ninety three yards and three touchdowns already. Yeah,
(37:59):
so he's and running patting his stats. They should win
big today. But yeah, cam Ward Miami quarterback is my
current number two.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
Here is my current number one. It's like a fire
drill out there right now. Shot gun snap taken by
shoot throws at right side. Travis Hunter reaches.
Speaker 13 (38:17):
Help makes a spectacular crab touchdown, touchdown Colorado.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
He's an alien, he's.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
A freak, he's a mutant.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
He's the best player in college football. And the Buffaloes
take a ten point lead.
Speaker 13 (38:31):
Thirty to twenty and the right front corner of the
end zone, he had a defeather in front of him.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Somehow he gum beat around him.
Speaker 13 (38:39):
He bent, he reached, he stretched, he made the catch
in the right front corner of the end zone.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
That's Mark Johnson lair Field. We played that last week.
We're playing it again this week. Such a good call.
But yeah, Travis Hunter, the mister do everything for Colorado.
He's gonna get his second shot today. That game against
Nebraska for Colorado coming up here in the next hour
kicking off Klorado is about a touchdown underdog on the
(39:06):
road against Nebraska. Now, if he does anything like he
did against North Dakota State, you could rest assured that
he will stay in that number one slot. But I
don't know how long this guy can keep this up
doing on a both ends.
Speaker 4 (39:20):
Let's hope he keeps it up for a little bit
because it's fun to watch. So let's hope it does
last longer than just a couple of games.
Speaker 5 (39:27):
Now, with Quinn.
Speaker 4 (39:27):
Yours, I'm not disagreeing on your picks in any way,
but with Quinn Yours, I mean, Michigan is not the
same team. How many players did they lose, like thirty seven,
I don't know, both offensive and defensive.
Speaker 5 (39:38):
So I'm just wondering if quinn Ewers look so good
because Michigan was not so good.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
Well, here's the thing for quinn Ewers and his heisman, Canadacy.
They're in the SEC now, yeah, I mean they got
a game up against Georgia.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
Yeah, coming up.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
You know, Carson Beck obviously is someone that's on my radar. Yes,
there's a lot of players that are on my radar
right now.
Speaker 3 (39:59):
So I'm just going week to week.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
But I mean, if he'll have his opportunity, if somehow,
I mean, that could be one versus two by the
time that game comes around. So yeah, I mean we're
we're gonna get a lot of opportunities to do a
little Heisman shopping. Yeah, you know, and see who really stands,
because that ultimately is the way I look at it.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
What do you do in your big games?
Speaker 2 (40:22):
The reason I got cam warden Quinn yours is big
wins on the road and doing it on the road.
You know, some of these other guys got some big
stats early, but doing it on the road. All right,
We got much more coming up on the college football scene.
And yeah, we're getting ready for the first NFL Sunday
of the season.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
This is Fox Football Saturday.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
Oh, rolling along on another stupendous Saturday.
Speaker 5 (40:46):
Depend of sports.
Speaker 3 (40:48):
I'm telling you the best time of the year.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
This is Fox Football Saturday and we are broadcasting live
from the ti rack dot com studios tire rack dot com.
We're gonna help get you there, and I'm Matt's selection
fast reshipping free. He wrote assid protection over ten thousand
recommended installers ti iraq dot com The way tire buying
should be waiting for the kickoff of this Colorado Nebraska game.
(41:10):
See they say series dates back to eighteen ninety eight.
Speaker 4 (41:14):
And you're about to tell us how it doesn't date
back till eighteen ninety Oh.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
No it does, it does. But understand this, the NFL
was born in nineteen twenty. So when we talk about
these college football rivalries. By the way back in the day,
I was seeing a documentary in the history of college football,
and it's funny because in those days, it didn't call
it college football. It was just football. There was no
(41:39):
other football other than college football. And going back to
the nineteenth century, the three main schools for the growth
of American football were Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. And the
reason they latched on to this sport they was sort
of evolving into the game we see today. It was
a great recruiting tool for the university. It's a lot
of competition with those IVY League schools, and they found
(42:02):
that this sport that they sort of created was working.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
It was a hit, was a big hit.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
And so that was sort of the earliest days of football,
and now we call it college football, and we're getting
in to NFL football tomorrow. Man, I just again Moncey
of course obviously a huge part of our Red Zone Radio,
which is what we more Fox Football Sunday into. Starting tomorrow,
(42:30):
we'll have eight games kicking off at ten o'clock West
Coast time, one o'clock on the East coast.
Speaker 3 (42:35):
But Moncey actually will not.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
Be here tomorrow because she has a big run tomorrow.
We've been talking about this for a couple of weeks
and now the reality is tomorrow is today. Can you
give us a rundown, Monsey of how your day when
it starts?
Speaker 3 (42:50):
What this runs all about.
Speaker 4 (42:52):
The typically the race I'm running at Disneyland, a half marathon,
they typically start around five thirty am, but because of
the heat, it's starting at five am, So the heat
is definitely gonna be an interesting factor. I have been hydrating,
but you know, luckily, just like Justin Herbert, my plantar
(43:13):
fasciitis whatever is a lot better than it was like
a month ago when I was telling you, like I
can't much better.
Speaker 5 (43:20):
Just like Justin Herbert, he's ready to go. My foot
seems to be ready to go?
Speaker 4 (43:24):
Am I ready to go? I don't know I'm gonna
go out there. It's not my first half marathon. I've
done a couple of them, and so.
Speaker 2 (43:33):
Let's remind everyone a half marathon is a takeover thirteen.
Speaker 5 (43:36):
Miles, thirteen point one correct miles.
Speaker 4 (43:39):
I'll be running with my brother, who I've ran with before,
so at least you know, we'll be there to keep
telling each other to keep going. Like, I don't think
we're gonna break any of our own personal best records.
I think we're just trying to finish it in a
decent time. What's decent time? I'm hoping to just finish
it in two and a half hours.
Speaker 3 (43:57):
You have people friends along the way, Yes.
Speaker 5 (44:00):
So you can go.
Speaker 14 (44:02):
Yes, they'll happen you drink. I hate power rate. I
hate gatorade, but it's really good for you. Yes, so
I will buy a certain mile, maybe like mile you
know seven. I'll start with the getting some gatorade or
something like that, because you do need sugar, some electrolytes,
not just water.
Speaker 4 (44:18):
Yeah, but I will probably do more of water. They'll
give you snacks at some point. It's actually really fun
people there's areas you can go in Anaheim because it's
gonna be also on the streets, not just between Disneyland
and California Adventure. There's not enough real estate between the
parks for you to run thirteen miles, so they do
make you run on the streets through Anaheim and whatnot.
And you will see people, You'll see you know, my
(44:41):
parents have like found us in the middle running halfway
through this half marathon. I have friends that sometimes show up.
So it'll be fun, it'll be fine. We're just not
as prepared, my brother and I as.
Speaker 5 (44:51):
We have been in the past. We have not trained
as well, and so we're like, man, we're gonna see
how this goes, especially the keat. We don't want to,
you know, have any You.
Speaker 3 (45:00):
Can't be thinking about any of that.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
First of all, I would never get the first step
out because the idea would be so daunting.
Speaker 3 (45:07):
I would say, what am I doing?
Speaker 2 (45:09):
Like, so, I know, to actually start the race, you've
got to have the right mindset.
Speaker 5 (45:13):
Yes, And I think, you know, it's exciting.
Speaker 4 (45:14):
And we picked up our bibs yesterday and our shirts
and like, so we got a little bit excited, but
we were like, man, we really should have just signed
up for the ten K.
Speaker 5 (45:22):
I don't know what we were thinking why we decided
to do the half marathon again.
Speaker 2 (45:25):
Well, in your absence tomorrow, obviously, we'll do our best.
And it's never the same, it's never the same without you,
min Seed, but we will do our best. One game
that is not kicking off early that I do want
to talk to you about will be Jim Harbaugh's debut.
Speaker 3 (45:40):
As the Chargers coach.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
Obviously, he left Michigan and the nicked time looks like
he left a mess bey hat at Michigan.
Speaker 3 (45:47):
But that's okay.
Speaker 2 (45:49):
We are going to see Justin Herbert, I hope, no, Yeah,
he's good for the first time and play a single
second of the preseason as he's been coming off that
foot injury. And this is an interesting battle rivalry obviously
against the Raiders, and you know, and Tony appears obviously
its first full season as the Raiders head coach. So
(46:10):
I mean, there's Raider fans that always believe this is
the year that they'll get back to respectability. The Chargers'
expectations are pretty high, and on the surface, if you
really dig in, they seem to be a little misplaced a.
Speaker 3 (46:25):
Little bit right now.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
Yes, I'm not saying down the road because Jim Harbor's
record speaks for itself. He eventually figures it out and
will get whatever team he's coaching on the ripe track.
But you know, the Chargers have so many questions, especially
at wide receiver in this game. Is mconkeie this kid
going to be suddenly doing like Puka Nakua did last year?
Speaker 3 (46:48):
Is it regular with the Rams?
Speaker 2 (46:49):
Yeah, I mean it's possible. Obviously he's coming from a
big time program at Georgia. But I mean there's a
lot of questions. But I know you'll be what time
will you finish your race?
Speaker 4 (46:59):
I'm hoping to be done. Let's see, they send you
out by groups. You don't just all, you know, twenty
thousand of you start running. It is like a lot
of people that sign up for this, so they let
you go in groups. I'm in the fourth group. So
let's say I'm gonna start running before six am. I'm
hoping to be done around like eight fifteen.
Speaker 3 (47:19):
In the evening.
Speaker 5 (47:19):
No am, men, oh, I was going eight twenty eight.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
That would be me fifteen in the evening. Actually arrive
there by ambulance.
Speaker 4 (47:27):
But yeah, I'm hoping to be done by like crossing
the line around eight fifteen, eight twenty am, so I'm
hoping to have a drink in my hand by nine am,
you know what I mean, and celebrating. So I would
definitely be watching this game. It's a great game for
a Chargers fan. This is a great way to start
the season because the Raiders also have some questions. The
defense is great, but offensively there's some questions. We're gonna
(47:48):
see what they Ye.
Speaker 3 (47:49):
Gardner is not exactly the answer.
Speaker 4 (47:51):
Exactly exactly, and Aidan O'Connell is also not. So this
is actually a great way to start the season for
the Chargers. We're not taking on some powerhouse yet, We're
taking on a Raiders team that has a good defense
but also also figuring things out, just like.
Speaker 5 (48:06):
The Chargers are figuring things out.
Speaker 4 (48:08):
I'm curious to see what the game plan is for
the Chargers because it looks like it's going to be
a run heavy game plan that maybe Harball wants to execute.
Speaker 5 (48:16):
But hopefully, hopefully we'll see Justin Herbert and see him,
you know, shine because he's got to shine.
Speaker 3 (48:23):
He does have to shine.
Speaker 2 (48:24):
Does also interesting tomorrow, We're gonna have not one, not two,
but three rookies starting game one for their Teama two
that we expected with Caleb Williams. The Bears will be
home against the Titans, so that's that's a home opener.
They're favorede obviously against the Titans team that doesn't expect
to do too much this year. We'll see how he
(48:45):
fares in that game. Jaden Daniels and the Commanders will
be on the road against Tampa Bay, a battle of
Heisman quarterbacks. Is Baker Mayfield going to follow up positively
after his big season last year for Tampa? And then
I'm gonna my guy because I'm out on the limb
this year's Denver Broncos. I have already been on the record.
(49:06):
I've said this repeatedly. I believe that not only will
Bow Knicks get the job done for the Broncos, but
the Broncos are going to sneak into the playoffs as
a wild card team. Not an easy opener on the
road against Seattle, that's always a tough place to play.
But I'm I'm anxious to see if for once, just
one time, yeah, that I go out on the limb
(49:28):
where no one else is going and actually deliver. Bo
Nicks look pretty good to me. Obviously, Sean Payton believes
in him. And when you look at what happened to
the Seahawks the year after they got rid of Russell Wilson,
Gino Smith comes out of nowhere to lead that team
to the playoffs. I think even though bo Nicks is
(49:48):
a rookie, he started more games at the Division one
level than any quarterback in history of both Auburn and Oregon.
So it's not like he's some really.
Speaker 3 (49:57):
Young inexperience this guy. It's a lot of experience.
Speaker 2 (50:01):
He seems to be grasping what it is as Sean
Faeton is fee him as far as this Broncos offense
is concerned.
Speaker 3 (50:07):
So this will be a big test.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
I mean, if they could get a road win against
Seattle to start things off, I'll be giddy.
Speaker 5 (50:15):
I'll be giddy.
Speaker 2 (50:15):
Yeah, I'm actually looking for By the way, I've never
been a Broncos faan my entire life.
Speaker 5 (50:22):
This I'm not gonna lie to you.
Speaker 4 (50:23):
I'm actually really looking forward to seeing what Jayden Daniels
does with the Commanders. I think we're all expecting and
looking forward to Caleb Williams, which of course we are.
But I'm looking forward to seeing what Jayden can do
because I think that he may surprise us and that
the Commanders might be the team.
Speaker 5 (50:42):
That comes out of nowhere.
Speaker 4 (50:43):
There's always a team every year that comes out of
nowhere that you're not expecting exactly.
Speaker 3 (50:48):
And I got the Bronco, we have the Broncos.
Speaker 5 (50:52):
I feel like maybe the Commanders can be the team.
Speaker 4 (50:55):
I don't know why, I don't know, and it'll be
interesting again, a good matchup the Buccaneers make in Mayfield.
Speaker 5 (51:00):
I'm a fan of Baker, so I'm looking forward to.
Speaker 4 (51:03):
I think that matchup of the three rookies, that might
be the one I'm looking forward to the most. Even
though I did pick up Caleb Williams in one of
my fantasy leagues, so I'm gonna need him to perform.
Speaker 5 (51:11):
I need him to dilive.
Speaker 3 (51:13):
You have Caleb Williams in one of my leagues. What
round did you get Caleb Williams in seventh seventh round pick?
Speaker 4 (51:19):
Yeah, and I got him because I took a little
bit of a leap because my running backs weren't that
great in that one, so I was like, oh, maybe
give me some you know, rushing yards if I get
Caleb Williams, but it was like the seventh round.
Speaker 2 (51:29):
Well, yeah, I mean Caleb Williams, I believe join Patrick
Mahomes is the only quarterbacks ever at the collegiate level
to have at least thirty touchdowns passing in ten rushing
and consecutive seasons. Yeah, and it worked out pretty well
for Mahomes since he came to the NFL.
Speaker 5 (51:44):
Yes, as usually as it has. Yes, it has.
Speaker 2 (51:47):
Look, I know Caleb Williams has it. There's no I mean,
there's no questions whether or not he has the skill
set to be an elite quarterback.
Speaker 3 (51:56):
In the NFL.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
But Evra Flues and the rest of that Bear's staff
have got to put him in the right position to win.
Speaker 3 (52:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (52:03):
Well, you know, we talked about it with Adam Kaplan
and it was obviously the preseason, but that he just
looks to me more comfortable when he's scrambling than when
things seem.
Speaker 3 (52:12):
To absolutely and you want to you gotta let him
do that.
Speaker 5 (52:16):
Yes, I agree, you have. That's not a bad thing.
That's not a bad thing. You have to let him
do that exactly.
Speaker 2 (52:21):
Yeah, if it plays breaks down, he'll figure it out.
All right, coming out with this out, we got much
more NFL football to get to, including h a a
one big rematch Sunday night football matchup. We'll break it down.
This is Fox Football Saturday, Steve Hartman and mont Si Belangios.

lot of college football going on today, but we're getting
(53:05):
ready for the first Sunday of the NFL season and
there are a number of games to look out for.
Speaker 3 (53:12):
I love scheduling in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (53:14):
It was great to have that rematch of the Ravens
and Chiefs in the.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
First game on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (53:19):
By the way, that was the most watched game ever
to open up an NFL season. Twenty nine million people
watched the Ravens and the Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (53:29):
I think we were just you know, as a rematch.
It was the last game we saw. I think people
were just looking forward to seeing how each team was
going to come out and respond. But that was the
last tame we saw. It was the last game.
Speaker 3 (53:41):
People just want to see NFL football, That's true.
Speaker 2 (53:43):
Tale Yeah, yeah, I mean, how many people out there
ended up, you know, maybe saying I'm not going to
pay for peacock and then ended up doing it.
Speaker 3 (53:51):
Because I gotta say its game.
Speaker 1 (53:53):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (53:53):
By the way, if you did invest in that Eagles
Packers game, you don't regret it because you saw a
really good game. And as we found out from Adam Kaplan,
still more tests being done on the extent of the
injury with Jordan Love. But it's not a blowout. Let's
put it that way.
Speaker 3 (54:08):
It's not.
Speaker 2 (54:08):
It doesn't look like a season ender yet, so the
signs are pretty good he will return at some point.
But this Sunday night matchup another rematch. Remember the Lions
beat the Rams in the playoffs last year. There were
two things about that game. One, he had the two
quarterbacks who had been traded for each other in what
at the time was deemed a one sided in the
(54:31):
Rams favor. As Matthew Stafford would lead him to a
Super Bowl championship. But now a suddenly Jared Goff, who's
got probably a little life left beyond Matthew Stafford and
obviously coming up in a big way for the Lions.
That was the Lions' first playoff game victory in thirty
two years. There's a couple of things about this game
(54:54):
to look out for. The Rams starting offensive tackle is
out suspended for a couple of games, meaning and they'll
have a backup against Aiden Hutchinson, who sacked Stafford a
couple of times in that playoff game. On the other side,
Pooka Akua, who had a record setting rookie season. And
then if you remember the playoff game, nine catches one hundred.
Speaker 3 (55:15):
And eighty one yards he ate up the Lions in
that game.
Speaker 2 (55:18):
So a lot of interesting aspects of this game, and
to me, I think the Rams way overachieved a year ago.
Speaker 3 (55:27):
That's my guess.
Speaker 2 (55:28):
Right now, as far as the Lions are concerned, I
guess the only question about the Lions are they for real?
Speaker 3 (55:35):
I mean, they could have won that game against the
forty nine ers.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
They were that close to making it to the Super Bowl,
So how real are the Lions, and can Matthew Stafford
in company get it done without Aaron Donald, one of
the all time greats, finally retired.
Speaker 4 (55:52):
You know, this is a tough one because I felt
like the Rams over achieved last year as well, and
not that Pooka Akua does and't have the talent, but
I am wondering how are they going to share the
ball with Cooper Cup not being insured? Because you know,
when when you have injuries and it's like, well our
only option is this, It kind of, in my opinion,
(56:12):
makes it a little easier to game plan when you
have too many options, or when you have other options
you know you you it might not make it as easy.
Speaker 5 (56:20):
For you to set up your game plan.
Speaker 4 (56:22):
I feel like the Rams are going to be the
ones who struggle this year. I believe the Lions. I
said it last week. Make it to the super Bowl.
That's what I think the Lions are doing now. The
Rams did add Tradavious White as a cornerback, which is
going to be very helpful for them. But I just
(56:43):
I don't think the Rams are a playoff team.
Speaker 5 (56:46):
You do.
Speaker 3 (56:46):
I do not have the Rams. You don't have them
in the not at all.
Speaker 5 (56:50):
No okay.
Speaker 2 (56:50):
Oh, in the in the NFC West, I only had
the forty nine ers.
Speaker 3 (56:55):
Yes, okay, we were pretty close. Were in lockstep with
our NFC we were, we were.
Speaker 4 (56:59):
I don't see them as a playoff team. I don't
see I think they're going to struggle. No, Aaron Donald,
I can't overstate the loss of No, no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (57:09):
I mean we're talking about I mean, there's a lot
of different ways to go on this, but I mean there's,
in my opinion, the most dominant interior defensive lineman in
the history of the NFL, history of the NFL.
Speaker 5 (57:24):
A big hole to fill.
Speaker 2 (57:26):
Yeah, so that's going to be a Sunday night game.
Here's another game that I'm very interested in, and for
good reason, because I went out on the limb.
Speaker 3 (57:34):
I can't believe this.
Speaker 2 (57:35):
As we shook down our picks over the last couple
of weeks, we came down to the NFC and I,
you know, who's going to win the NFC Championship, Who's
going to make it to the Super Bowl, Who's.
Speaker 3 (57:45):
Going to win the Super Bowl?
Speaker 2 (57:47):
And I had the Chiefs in the Super Bowl against
all teams, a team that hasn't played in a Super
Bowl in twenty nine years, that would be the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (57:57):
And then I opened my mouth and I said.
Speaker 2 (57:59):
I envisioned Jerry Jones hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. I hate
the Cabins. I have never rooted for the cabin and
I see him hoisting that trophy. And then, of course
you still have Dak Prescott without a contract, saying yeah,
you take your trophy, I'm out of here. Can you
imagine if Dak Prescott were to win the Super Bowl,
have a you know, super Bowl MVP performance, and then
(58:22):
hit the free agent market?
Speaker 3 (58:23):
Oh yeah, kind of money? Are we talking about it?
Speaker 5 (58:25):
Exactly?
Speaker 4 (58:26):
No, The only way Jerry Jones is going to keep
him if that happens, is if he's giving him.
Speaker 5 (58:29):
A hundred million a year.
Speaker 4 (58:30):
That's the only way exactly at that point, right, Yeah,
you did say that last week?
Speaker 2 (58:35):
Would you would you love to see that where you Yes,
they're presenting the trophy to Jerry Jones, blah blah blah.
Now they're interviewing Dak Prescott and Dak's like looking at Jerry, like, so,
how much are you going to pay me?
Speaker 3 (58:47):
Put him on the spot?
Speaker 5 (58:48):
Yeah, I know that it would be great. It's a
script that would be perfect for a movie.
Speaker 2 (58:53):
Not gonna lie well, I mean Dallas opens the season.
This just to me an interesting game. This is a
Cleveland Browns team. Obviously, they had one of the best
defenses in the league, the reigning defensive player of the.
Speaker 3 (59:03):
Aaron, Miles Garrett. They had the coach of the aar
in Stefanski.
Speaker 2 (59:07):
They somehow made the playoffs with Joe Flacco getting off
the couch. But now Deshaun Watson's back and the last
half that we saw Deshaun Watson last year. People forget
this before he had some mysterious injury that ended his season.
He had a perfect second half and leading the Browns
to have come from mein victory.
Speaker 3 (59:29):
I mean, both these quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (59:31):
What are the last time we saw Dak Prescott was
that ugly game at home against the backers of the playoffs.
Is Deshaun Watson ever going to get back to the
Levelly saw for a few seasons with the Texans?
Speaker 3 (59:42):
I did this matchup?
Speaker 9 (59:44):
To me?
Speaker 3 (59:44):
Is the matchup of this Sunday?
Speaker 4 (59:46):
I mean it is because not only do you have
Miles Garrett on one side, do you have Michael Parsons.
Speaker 5 (59:51):
On the other side?
Speaker 4 (59:51):
You have two great defenses, two quarterbacks that need to
prove themselves. Not that Deshaun Watson is looking for a contract,
but Deshaun.
Speaker 5 (01:00:01):
Watson is getting his leash.
Speaker 4 (01:00:03):
I think is getting shorter and shorter because he has
not delivered.
Speaker 5 (01:00:07):
And correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't he just have
another injury?
Speaker 4 (01:00:10):
Didn't we hear a couple of weeks ago that his
shoulder or his arm or something was wrong.
Speaker 5 (01:00:15):
Again, I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:00:17):
I don't know if Deshaun Watson has it left in him.
Speaker 2 (01:00:21):
And I just you paid him guaranteed over I did
not one hundred million dollars.
Speaker 5 (01:00:28):
Yes, and that probably was.
Speaker 3 (01:00:30):
The worst city full season.
Speaker 5 (01:00:32):
That's probably the worst contract ever in sports ever. Could
you think of a worse one?
Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
You know them all, well, it was just ironic that,
you know, they were sort of, you know, hovering, they
were sort of in the mix. He gets hurt, they
desperately need a quarterback. Joe Flacco's at home watching games
on the couch. They dust him off. He's the comeback
player of the year and then leads him to the
Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (01:00:52):
And obviously he was doing.
Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
Much better, way more productive in the passing game than
Watson was before the injury.
Speaker 4 (01:00:59):
And with that, that's why it's so interesting because it's
like the Browns defense is so good, that does Deshaun
Watson just have to do okay in order to win?
Now it is the Cowboys, I get it.
Speaker 3 (01:01:11):
But it's in Cleveland.
Speaker 5 (01:01:13):
It's in Cleveland. It is in Cleveland. I will Dak.
It's really it's it's it's up to Dak.
Speaker 4 (01:01:21):
I feel like Dak has to come out and absolutely shine.
Speaker 2 (01:01:27):
By the way, for the record, the Browns are slight
favorites at home. Yeah, so the Browns are a two
and a half point favorite listed here. The weather will
not be a factor whether actually it's going to beautiful
in Cleveland for that game.
Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
So these are just some of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:01:41):
Those are later games, by the way, we haven't even
talked about any of the earlier games. On the other side,
I understand Patrick, our Steam producer, has three games that
he has randomly chosen for us to choose from that
neither one of us have any clue which games he
has actually chosen.
Speaker 5 (01:01:59):
We have no idea.
Speaker 2 (01:02:01):
Do you have the cooking Do you have a spread
on these games or just winners? You do have the spread, well,
it's not much of a spread. It's more so like
who's the point favorite? Tok, Like, oh is this person's
six and a half favorite?
Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:02:14):
Are we picking against the spread? Are we picking just winners?
Speaker 1 (01:02:17):
Straight up?
Speaker 3 (01:02:17):
Just wa straight straight up? All right, straight up? All right,
very very good.
Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
Before we get to that, though, a quickerminder of thanks

That's how you survive in this industry.
Speaker 10 (01:03:07):
Yes, my belief is adaptability is an availability is how
you stay alive.
Speaker 3 (01:03:15):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
For many years of my career, everyone's like, why do
you do so many jobs? Why he works so many days,
every day, and my basic answer was always the same
because I can so, you know, never say no. I
am so excited about the kickoff of this Colorado Nebraska game.
Speaker 3 (01:03:33):
They're running on the field right now.
Speaker 10 (01:03:34):
They are in Lincoln. It is Colorado. By the way,
I was on a flight not too long ago with
Deon Sanders. I might have mention that to you. Yes,
how was that?
Speaker 2 (01:03:42):
Well?
Speaker 10 (01:03:43):
You know, he he basically had his I'm assuming what
is it Bo's headphones, whatever he was wearing. He just
wanted to block everything out, very respectful. I'm in my
own zone. I'm sitting here on the airplane. Don't bother me.
And then he was picked up by an escalade when
he got to Dallas, and I'm sure he was doing me.
Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
Put him down for a seg beefim. What's going on?
Love your work at Fox Sports Radio?
Speaker 10 (01:04:06):
Stuff like that, right, Yeah, in my wildest dreams when
he say that, he said, he says that he loves
for some reason. I can't figure it out, Monsienc. But
he says he loves when you do the Heisman segment
of your show because of where his son ranks as
right now at the top of your Heisman watches Shadoor Sanders.
Speaker 2 (01:04:28):
No, I have Travis Hunter number one, but thanks for listening. Yeah, wow,
I I I yeah, I I don't have Shdor Sanders.
Speaker 3 (01:04:38):
I have Travis Hunter is my number one.
Speaker 5 (01:04:40):
But is like a contender.
Speaker 2 (01:04:44):
Yeah, we were playing highlights, but when they were saying
this is the greatest college player in the country, they
were speaking of Travis Hunter.
Speaker 10 (01:04:50):
Well, see, it's funny that you guys say that I
was wrong there. I'm actually just looking into the future.
Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
Door Sanders last year was my number one guy for
the first two weeks of the year.
Speaker 3 (01:05:03):
How did that go the rest of the year.
Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
Well, after the Toreno start one and eight down the stretch,
it's not gonna look at for Shadur Sanders or Travis
Hunter to have any shot at the Heisman.
Speaker 3 (01:05:15):
Colorado's gonna have to win.
Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
At least eight games at least, and they're gonna have
to put up monster numbers.
Speaker 3 (01:05:22):
You can't lose five or six games and win the
Heisman Trophy. It's just not gonna happen that that is true.
Speaker 10 (01:05:26):
And if they can win three or four games, I
think that would be a win for them this year, especially.
Speaker 3 (01:05:31):
In the Big twelve it's gonna be tough for them
last year. Yeah for sure.
Speaker 10 (01:05:34):
So yeah, as you said, Nebraska and Colorado, they are
about to get it on from Lincoln right now as well.
Number six Ole Miss and Oxford they are sticking it
to middle Tennessee fifty two to three. Jackson Dart the
olmost quarterback, three hundred and seventy seven yards passing, one touchdown.
They're late in the fourth quarter there, halftime, And I
believe you might have mentioned I did get this for I.
(01:05:55):
Cam Ward is a Miami quarterback and he is inside
your top three high. Yes, he's number one two right now,
he is number two doing today right now, He's two
hundred twenty three yards passing, he's got three touchdowns. And
number twelve Miami is in front twenty five to six
against Florida A and M at the half. So so far,
so good with with what you're looking at there. Number
four Alabama is losing. Okay, it's three nothing against South Florida.
Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
Up said alert.
Speaker 10 (01:06:22):
Hey, speaking of upset, are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Speaker 3 (01:06:26):
Snap Jeters kick.
Speaker 12 (01:06:28):
This fuck it fucked fucks with the biggest upset and
IU mystery that is that is the voice I take
of NIU.
Speaker 10 (01:06:40):
That is the voice, No, you think that's the voice
of Notre team after they lost.
Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
Is the five ranked team in the country. He's seen
a little horse there.
Speaker 10 (01:06:47):
Yeah, yeah, So anyway, a shout out to them and
their radio team. But it was a sixteen to fourteen
win for Northern Illinois over number five Notre Dame. He
was pointing out that, yeah, that's six two yard field
goal they attempted at the end of the game.
Speaker 3 (01:07:02):
Northern Illinois made.
Speaker 10 (01:07:03):
A field goal to take the leader with about thirty
seconds ago in the fourth quarter. It was from thirty five, Yeah,
thirty five yards out and Northern Illinois for the first
time in program. Mystery, they'd beaten a top ten team
in the nation.
Speaker 2 (01:07:15):
Oh. The coach was crying and with balling his eyes
out after the game. Obviously the biggest win in Northern
Illinois history.
Speaker 10 (01:07:24):
Easy yeah, and probably won't be the only loss there
for them this year.
Speaker 3 (01:07:29):
And I can't believe I just said that.
Speaker 10 (01:07:32):
Number sixteen Oklahoma State with a thirty nine to thirty
one win against Arkansas.
Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
This was in double overtime.
Speaker 10 (01:07:39):
Arkansas had a twenty one to seven lead and they
let it all slip away. Number seventeen to Kansas State
winning over Toulane Iowa State. Gush, do we need a
wellness check? And a phone call over to Iowa. Sam
who was part of a Fox Sports radio family who
was at the game. He's a big Iowa fan. His
number twenty one Iowhawkeys. They lost montone and Steve twenty
to nineteen twenty tonighteen.
Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
They were so psych because they scored like forty points
last week. You know Iowa doesn't score that and usually
a month. But yeah, not good enough today, lousy in
the game to the Cyclones.
Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:08:11):
Also wins for Syracuse and that was a win thanks
to Calum McCord. I was expecting him to be inside
your top three Heisman Watch. Three hundred and eighty one
yards passing and four touchdowns for him in the win
for the Orange over Georgia Tech thirty one to twenty eight.
Wins for number twenty two Louisville as well, and number
eleven Utah got it done against Baylor twenty three to twelve.
(01:08:32):
And cam Risen came out of this game in the
first half of the hand injury. Did not return, no
status or no word on how long he could be out.
Number three Texas over number ten Michigan thirty one to twelve.
And you can't have a Texas college football game without
Matthew McConaughey a sighting or two of him on your
television during the game halftime show. He was part of it.
(01:08:55):
And yeah, he was a big part of it as well.
And number eight Penn State thirty four to twenty seven
and against Bowling Green. I'll leave you with this, Monci
and Steve. I'm gonna mention tennis, and I don't want
to get made fun of because it was it was
the women's championship at Yeah, but there's some shows that
I mentioned tennis on this network and yeah, I pretty
(01:09:17):
much get made fun of.
Speaker 2 (01:09:18):
And yeah, there's an NFL tie to the story. There's
an NFL tie to this.
Speaker 10 (01:09:23):
Fine, thank you, yeah, thank you. And the tie is
Jessica Bagoula, who is the daughter of the Buffalo bill Owners.
She was in the final. We were rooting for her
as an American, but she she falls to Arena Sablenka
in a pair of seven to five sets. That second set,
she was up a break late and then a couple
(01:09:47):
of games slipped away that and then she got broken
and it was Saboulenka who won it.
Speaker 3 (01:09:52):
Yeah, and she was favor so let's it's It wasn't
like it was an upset.
Speaker 10 (01:09:56):
You know, you had a lot of money on that one,
for sure, Sean mc I remember was talking about the
whole Bill's organization rooting for Pegula to get it done,
and yeah, congrats she got to the US Open fet.
But one of the things you're never gonna want to
ask her at a press conference, and I don't blame her,
is talking about her parents, right, because it takes away
from the work that she has done on the court percent.
Speaker 2 (01:10:18):
By the way, I'm watching a Shadoor Sanders getting sacked,
which chorus is the story of all of last year
with Colorado. Colorado just doesn't have an offensive line. Well,
and it was crazy. You know you just mentioned Shadoor
Sanders got sacked and he was number one in your
Heisman watch.
Speaker 3 (01:10:34):
Actually was not, but he could be if he strolls.
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
You know, you know, has a big game against Nebraska.
So let's watch this game. But the first play was
not good, as the Colorado offensive line just crumbled against Nebraska.
Beefen phenomenal stuff as always, and by the way. I
saw Dion Sanders speaking to his son Shadur before the
game's scene. You're not gonna believe where I ran into?
Speaker 3 (01:10:59):
Really? Is this true? I can read his list? Could
he said Brian Fenly? Yes? Did he say as well
that she asked his dady, Dad, I need some money? Yes?
I don't have any in the bank account right now.
Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
All right, We're going to break a little early after
those shenanigans and come back with these three games, three
games that our esteem producer Patrick has come up with,
and we'll pick the winners for tomorrow in the NFL.
This is Fox Football Saturday. Steve Hartman and Montzi belanias
here Fox Football Saturday. We are alive from the tirerack
(01:11:34):
dot Com studios. Want to thank the gre to day
Befanbrian Finley brilliant on updates as always, Mary Mac.
Speaker 3 (01:11:43):
I like her whole look today.
Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
I always love her look, but I mean today's she's
got a lot of things going on. The glasses especially
are working today.
Speaker 3 (01:11:52):
I lost mine.
Speaker 12 (01:11:53):
I they're behind my bed and it's kind of annoying
because I couldn't see yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:11:58):
Yeah, that's annoying when you can't do that. I know
I've worn glasses or had surgery on my eyes or
whatever to see all these years.
Speaker 3 (01:12:06):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
And of course Patrick is our steam producer, and he's
about to unveil three games on us, random games that
we have no clue in advance what they are from
tomorrow's Sunday schedule here in the NFL, that we, Moncey,
are going to have to choose a winner.
Speaker 3 (01:12:21):
Are you ready? Patrick?
Speaker 13 (01:12:22):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
I am ready? Now the question is are you ready
to born red?
Speaker 2 (01:12:26):
You know I am one of the great prognosticators of
all time. All right, let's go. Let's try this, all right,
let's go. If we are going to keep track of
these by the way, yes, yes, all right, I got
I got everybody on this.
Speaker 9 (01:12:41):
All right, We're gonna go Game number one, Moncey. Don't
roll your eyes already. I already know, you know, I
don't know, I really know. Game one the Denver Bronco
at my Seattle Seahawks. Monsey laughs because she knows exactly
why I chose that one randomly. First, Yeah, Stephen, Stephen
(01:13:02):
MONSI the Seahawks are six point favorites, Seahawks are home,
and I'm gonna go with ladies first on this one, Moncey,
who are you picking?
Speaker 3 (01:13:12):
Straight up winner walks to Broncos.
Speaker 4 (01:13:15):
All right, So we talked about this because this is
an interesting matchup with the Broncos.
Speaker 5 (01:13:20):
I'm interesting to see what they're gonna do this season.
Speaker 4 (01:13:23):
But for Week one. If this game was later on,
I may have a different answer. But for Week one,
I am gonna give it to Seattle, and I actually
think the score is gonna be a lot closer. Not
that the Seahawks win by a six or a touchdown.
I think it's gonna be closer, but I say the
Seahawks win.
Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
All right. No Pete Carroll, No Pete Carroll. Huh.
Speaker 2 (01:13:45):
So you have a rookie head coach for the Seahawks
going against a rookie quarterback for the Broncos.
Speaker 3 (01:13:55):
I agree with you, logic says.
Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
Especially in Seattle where the noise is such a no
question about that. But look, I've been touting bow Knicks
all along, and he does not have a first year
head coach. Sean Payton's been there and done that for
a lot of years in the NFL. We're gonna be
talking about bow Knicks.
Speaker 3 (01:14:14):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
Take the Broncos straight up at six point Dogs. The
Broncos will beat the Seahawks in that first game.
Speaker 3 (01:14:22):
All right, got it?
Speaker 9 (01:14:23):
So someone's going one in note, let's hope it's a
certain one of my co hosts, right tomb one particular favorably.
Let's go with number two. And Monsie might laugh at
this one again too, because we're gonna go with the
Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 5 (01:14:36):
Okay, my my part two.
Speaker 3 (01:14:40):
Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 9 (01:14:41):
Shout out to my father, and they are playing against
and the home team New York Giants Football Giants. Vikings
are one and a half point favorites. You know what,
we're gonna flip it, Steve, who are you taking Vike's Giants?
Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
Who you got?
Speaker 2 (01:14:57):
Sam Darnold is now the starting court of back for
the Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 3 (01:15:01):
Who would have thought? Right?
Speaker 2 (01:15:02):
Look, everyone is hyped up, including me on how bad
the Giants are going to be this year, and they
are that bad.
Speaker 3 (01:15:10):
They have no running game. You think they miss Saquon Barklay.
We'll find out they're going to miss him a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:15:15):
However, at home at Mett Life in this opening game
against Sam Donald, the Giants come up with enough answers
to eat out what is going to be one of
the ugliest games of the day in the NFL. I
will take the g Men to win at home against
the Vikings.
Speaker 5 (01:15:34):
I don't know what you are smoking today for thinking that.
Speaker 4 (01:15:38):
Have you heard of the guy what's called the National
Football and Jefferson?
Speaker 5 (01:15:41):
I don't know, did you forget that guy?
Speaker 3 (01:15:43):
Sam Donald's got to get him the.
Speaker 4 (01:15:44):
Ball and I listen, he's just gonna throw the ball
and Justin Jefferson's gonna come out of nowhere.
Speaker 5 (01:15:49):
And just catch it. I the Giants are not good.
Speaker 3 (01:15:54):
No, they're not, and it is, but I don't know
how good the Vikings are going to be this year.
Speaker 4 (01:15:58):
I'm not saying that they're be great for the season,
but for Week one I am definitely taken Sam Darnold
and Justin Jefferson and Kevin O'Connell over the Giants, even
though it's at mess Ran Dabel.
Speaker 3 (01:16:10):
Come back coach of the Year.
Speaker 5 (01:16:12):
I God, no Vikings Vikings for me on that one.
Speaker 9 (01:16:17):
All right, well one Monsey, I want to applaud and
thank you making me feel validated to and Steve, you're
breaking my heart man, like.
Speaker 3 (01:16:25):
I'll really break your heart when I'll be two and
oh I produced it.
Speaker 9 (01:16:28):
Yeah, looking Lord oh all right, I could see that
happening too well. You know what, speaking of hearts being broken,
someone's heart's gonna get broken with this because we have
both fans in our booth and buildings. Between these two teams,
we have a big one. It's the New York Jets
taken on the home team, San Francisco. Forty nine Ers
(01:16:51):
Niners are four and a half point favorites, and Moncey,
who do you think wins?
Speaker 3 (01:16:58):
And who's going heartbroken?
Speaker 4 (01:16:59):
Okay, so this one is really hard. They're playing in
San Francisco. I do think the Jets are gonna be
good this season. I am with Adam Kaplan. I am
not with you, Steve Harman. But but it the forty
nine Ers are at this point, I think a well
oiled machine. Yes, the Jets have a great defense. Brock Purty,
(01:17:19):
what can he do against this good defense? That's a
great question. I am uncomfortably gonna take the forty nine
ers to win.
Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
Uncomfortably, yeah, oh, I'm very comfortably taking the forty nine ers.
In fact, this game's going to be such a laugher
in favor of the forty nine Ers. All those people
including are beloved, added Kaplan are going to say, what
was I smoking when I thought that somehow the Jets
were the soon to be forty one year old Aaron
Rodgers who hasn't played in two years, thinking that he
(01:17:52):
was going to be suddenly the Aaron Rodgers of old.
Speaker 1 (01:17:56):
I know.
Speaker 2 (01:17:56):
Look, the Jets' strength is defense, yes, but the forty
nine Ers also have a defense, and they have one
of the most prolific offenses with all hands on deck
because Trent Walliams finally.
Speaker 3 (01:18:08):
Did agree to a deal.
Speaker 2 (01:18:10):
So this is gonna be a very motivated forty nine
Ers team, coming off obviously the disappointing overtime Super Bowl loss.
I think they're out to show the world that forget
the Chiefs, we're the team to beat. Right now, they're
going to put a beatdown I mean a beatdown on
the Jets on Monday Night football.
Speaker 1 (01:18:29):
I beat down.
Speaker 5 (01:18:31):
I don't think there's gonna be a beatdown.
Speaker 9 (01:18:33):
I'm gonna put down, beatdown on seats. Answer by the way,
in the parentheses he takes niners, but it has to
say beat down.
Speaker 3 (01:18:40):
Beat down.
Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
I mean, this is double digit and then some blowout
victory for the forty nine Ers.
Speaker 4 (01:18:46):
Oh last year without a quarterback. The Jets managed to
hang in there for most of the season because of
their defense. Yeah, without with Zach Wilson. And you're saying
that Aaron Rodgers can't be a step up.
Speaker 2 (01:18:57):
From the rock party will show world what a real
quarterback looks like in this matchup against the decrepit Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (01:19:09):
He's gonna make it look pretty.
Speaker 5 (01:19:11):
He's gonna stop it, stop it.
Speaker 2 (01:19:13):
That was pretty pert And by the way, didn't his
Iowa State Hawka Cyclones win today against Iowa? Yeah, an
omen an omen for him, mister Iowa State.
Speaker 5 (01:19:26):
It was a one game. So if it's an omen,
this is not gonna be a beatdown.
Speaker 3 (01:19:30):
It's going to be a beatdown.
Speaker 5 (01:19:31):
No, it's not. You're gonna owe me like treats or something.
Speaker 2 (01:19:35):
Everyone that has been, you know, touting Air Rodgers the
big comeback is just gonna say I can't wait for
what was I thinking?
Speaker 5 (01:19:41):
I can't wait for this.
Speaker 4 (01:19:42):
I can't wait for this because Aaron, they're gonna play well,
they're gonna lose, but it's gonna be a good game,
and you're gonna be like, man.
Speaker 2 (01:19:46):
I like to review my picks because I want everyone
to know Broncos win at Seattle.
Speaker 3 (01:19:53):
That is h that's a gimme.
Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
No, dare no, how dare the g Man shock the Vikings, No,
and the forty nine ers embarrass Aaron Rodgers and the gym.
Speaker 5 (01:20:06):
I don't know what you smoke today. I really don't.
Speaker 9 (01:20:09):
If all three of those, if both my teams lose,
I don't think I'm ever going to pick them for
our picks ever.
Speaker 2 (01:20:13):
Again, Mary Mack, you keep this, keep that little commentary there,
we'll be We'll be replaying that next Saturday.
Speaker 3 (01:20:20):
I promise you don't worry. Stem System he's saying, wow,
what did he know?
Speaker 5 (01:20:27):
Let's also hold his beat down? Beat down for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:20:31):
I'm making a button, I'm making it sound.
Speaker 2 (01:20:35):
Monzi has to go to bed early. She has an
early rise for a big run tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:20:38):
Keep it up. Park Sports Radio
