Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Unranked but interesting. We'll get to that in just about
a minute. Good morning, everybody, it is that time. It's
Fox Football Sunday on Fox Sports.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Ready.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
He is Bucky Brooks. I'm ay Firman. And by the way,
we are broadcasting live from the tire rack dot Com
studios ti rack dot com. We'll help you get there.
Unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection and
over ten thousand recommended in Stollers tire rack dot Com.
The way tire buying should be, the way football should
be played, the way football should be coached, talked about,

(00:34):
and honestly be on the radio with my guy, my partner,
Bucky Brooks. Buck. Are you ready? This is it? This
is Square one day one Football Sunday. I love it.
It's like a whole new holiday. How are you, Bucky?

Speaker 4 (00:47):
I'm doing great, man. It's always a great time when
the NFL season kicks off. We have some great I
would say, little appetizers Thursday night and Friday night, but
now we get the main course. I'm excited about it.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
It is unbelievable. Before we get God, let me talk
a little college football for a second, right, now, And
I know I said this to you the other day,
and now you kind of poo pooed it because you said,
the Heisman Trophy basically is an award for the best
quarterback in the country in the college level. Right, That's
what we said, and I'm saying now now, I said,
the big o' is going to get it. Oli Gordon,
I guy, I love this guy. So on play last

(01:19):
year when they played Cincinnati, Oklahoma State squeezes past Auklins
so yes day thirty nine to thirty one. So what
I'm the kiss of death. I am the kiss of death.
Olli Gordon seventeen carries for forty nine yards. So that's
the end of his Heisman Trophy. It's over. I mean, really,
he ain't gonna get the Heisman now, I mean, come on,
why did I say that I cursed him?

Speaker 4 (01:38):
I did, Yeah, I mean I don't know if you
directly cursed him. But when you have a performance like
that early, when you have all eves on you, you
have to captivate the attention of the voters. And I'm look,
they're not gonna be captivated by a forty nine yard performance.
You have to put it two hundred plus yards to
keep the flame going because there's so many quarterbacks in

(01:59):
this campaign that you have to deal with. If you don't,
if you have a bad night, it's gonna be hard
to kind of maintain the momentum to be in the contention.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Okay, and speaking of a running backs or Ashton Genty
that the kid from Boise I mean, they almost took
care of Oregon late last night, thirty seven thirty for
this guy around for what hundred and ninety two yards,
three touchdowns on twenty five carries. So now he's my
new guy. I don't want to curse him. I don't
want to give him the kiss of death, but I mean, honestly,
Boise State, how did boise get a guy like this?

(02:28):
That's what I'd like to know. They're not even on
the radar of major college and they're like pushing Oregon
to the limit. Thirty seven thirty four that had to
win Oregon then on a sixty one yard drive that
ended with a twenty seven yard field goal to win
the ball game. It's amazing. I can't believe it.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
Now, hold on that you're talking like Boise State doesn't
have a tradition of being a really good football team.
You have to understand they've had really good football teams
until the last three four years. They've always been I
wouldn't say a regional powerhouse, but they look Chris Peterson
had competing at high levels, Dan Hawkins like, they've had

(03:03):
Dirt Cutter. They've had a run of like fifteen to
twenty years where they've been really, really good and they
have been able to I would say, identify, draft and
develop a lot of kids that were kind of flew
under the recruiting radar. And so with transfer portal and
NIL like, it's kind of changed their dynamic a little bit.
But that's always been a really good team and their

(03:24):
games in the past against Oregon have always been very competitive.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
The question I have right now, I could see in
years past before NIL, you know, you could kind of
get a diamond in the rough. You go out recruiting
and get a kid who wasn't recruited by a Big
ten school, whatever it may be, and he's bypassed, and
all of a sudden, you get a nugget over there.
It goes to Boise State. Now it's all about kids home.
You recruit them and the kids says how much you're
gonna pay me. Does Boise State have that kind of

(03:49):
a lumbase they're going to write a check and get
these players to go to Boise.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
I mean, they can do some of that stuff, but
I don't think that's their main focus. Their main focus
has been in the past to really take underrated players
and developed them and keep them in the system for
four or five years, and collectively as a unit as
a team, they've been being able to do it. They've
always played pretty good defense, but they've always been innovative
when it comes to the offensive side of the ball,

(04:13):
shifting motioning, the way they ran their spread. They've had
really good college quarterbacks to do it. Kellen Moore came
from there. Like they have just always been a really
good college football team, and so I'm not surprised to
see them push Oregon to the limit. But I will
say back to back weeks Oregon has been pushed by
I would say lightweights. They can figure it out. But

(04:35):
a lot of the conversation that we had about Oregon
about being a title contender and being in the mix
and Dylan Gabriel and all those things, I think we've
got to pump the brakes until they prove that they
can knock out some of these teams are just supposed
to knock.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Off all right, I will tell you this much. Right now,
there's a kid in the name of Canon Woodle. He
had a thirty five yard field goal thirty one seconds
to go. Northern Illinois beats up Unknoe your name. I
will tell you right now that this kid, Canon Woodle,
the kicker who won the game from will pay for
a meal in the Calber, Illinois for the rest of
his life. Never now, that's just a way to may
be illegal. I'm telling you right now, he can go

(05:07):
to any restaurant. I know how many restaurants there are
in the Calb Illinois, the home of Northern Illinois University.
For them to beat Notre Dame sixteen fourteen at Notre
Dame yesterday, maybe the riley will be the biggest upset
of the year this year in college football. And to me,
right now, forget it not to day, it's over. Season's
over for them. I don't care how many teams are
going to the playoffs. They're not in the conference. They

(05:30):
are done, done du and then done.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
They're not done. It's too early to say that they're
done because of the twelve team playoff and Notre Dame
has special favor when it comes to the playoffs. But
what I will say it was always going to be
challenging for this team to go from the high beating
Texas A and M to showing up and playing the
next week. And what Marcus Freeman and what Notre Dame
learned is the ability to win at a high level

(05:58):
to get into rare fright air comes down to your
ability to focus and to be consistent. And the focus
comes from a being able to treat every game as
if it's the most important game on your schedule. And
then the consistency is they got to show up each
and every week. Their main players have to show up.
But until they really figure out what they have in
the quarterback, it'd be hard for this team to be consistent.

(06:20):
Until they understand and build the game plan around how
he really needs to play based on his talents, they're
gonna struggle. And the thing about college football that you
don't have the luxury of when you're there, you don't
have preseason games. You don't get a chance to work
out the kinks without it affecting your mark and the
pros you have preseason games where you can work on things,

(06:42):
and that college you're not afforded that grace period, and
so sometimes you lose a game that you wish that
you hadn't because there are simple things that could have
been worked out kind of in training camp.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
You're a judge of talent, and I respect your opinion
on talent. Right now, I'm telling you right now, they
got a problem at the quarterback position. Leonard. He was
kind of shaky when they beat A and M a
week ago. He did nothing to improve himself. Yesterday, heard
that interception that gave the Huskies the ball at midfield
and they went on. They scored the field goal in
the bingo. That's all it was. It then, and to
put the icing on the cake, nojre dame. I think

(07:16):
they attended like a sixty or sixty two yard field
goal as the clock was going to oh oh oh,
and guess what, the Huskies blocked it. They blocked it.
And I mean it was unbelievable really to lose to
Northern Illinois because I'm sure Northern Illinois got a big
payday check to come in there and play. That's like
the biggest slop on the face you can get. You
bring a team in to get a win, to buy

(07:36):
a win, but you know what, you lose the game
and they get to check the goal away as well.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
Yeah. No, that's a tough one. I mean that's a
real that's a real tough one to play a lesser
rated team, to play a team that you should should
dominate based on the talent that you have compared to
what's on their roster. To lose it in the home
opening in front of all your fans as who were excited,
who were ready to have a party. Yeah, that's a

(08:03):
tough one. Yes, I mean that's a tough one, and
that's hard. That's going to be hard for Marcus Freeman
to overcome, just the backlash in terms of the conversation
and those things. But what you hope is you learn
from it, your team learns from it, and then that
they are able to find a way to move forward
and have a level of success that makes everyone forget

(08:23):
that they dropped one. But for Northern Illinois, I mean,
it's a game of a lifetime. I mean, this is
one that will kind of be always in their highlight packages,
always in their recruiting footage, always talked about because it's
a major upset for them to go on the road
and to be the top five team.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
And I like Malcus Freeman. He was a coordinator here
at the University of Cincinnati. I was shocked when it
got the job. A note today, I wish him well
and I think he handled it quite nicely after the
game because he said we've been there before, because several
years ago when he was there, they lost to Marshall, So,
I mean, he understands that. But I just don't think
a team could come and not he prepared to a

(09:01):
home game your place. I mean, it's your deal, and
against the team that you're supposed to be. Then I
heard some of the commentators saying they're bad the press clippings.
I don't know. Is it the coach's fault that they
weren't ready to play?

Speaker 5 (09:13):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
I mean I think that would have.

Speaker 4 (09:15):
Ultimately, Ultimately he's responsible, I mean, whether we like to
admit it or not. Yet, Like it falls on the
feat of the coach and he can't control each individual player.
But man, you just hope that you can just give
them the lessons and tell them, guys, we got to
be ready to seem as good and locked in and
prepared in those things. And there's going to be some
volatility in the college games because you're dealing with eighteen

(09:36):
to twenty two year olds. But a program like Notre Dame,
where the talent should be superior to what Northern Illinois had,
they should be able to beat them even when they're
not having their best game.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Right right, Look, I think Notre Dame should be Northern
Online ten on eleven, I really do. I mean, that's
the way it should be. But it didn't work out
that way till about quarterback problems to not Jday. What
about quarterback problems? Now for Michigan, Davis Warren had a
bad performance a week ago. Although they did beat Fresno
State yesterday, Texas drilled them at home in the big House.

(10:08):
That to me showed me a lot. And honestly, Jim
Hawba is the smartest guy in the world. He knew
everybody's leaving after this year. He packed up his bags
and went to the NFL thirty one to twelve. Michigan loses,
and it's going to be a long year for Michigan
as well.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
Mimi. I wouldn't go so far as say it's going
to be a long year. I think was exposed is
the gap between what they have returning and what Texas have,
And maybe we need to give Texas more credit. This
is a team that better the way into the playoff
last year, lost in the semifinal. But what Steve Sarkejian
has done is he's quietly built a superpower down in Texas.
He has taken all the lessons that he's learned from

(10:44):
his time at USC under Pete Carroll, his time at
Alabama under Nick Saban, his own experience previously as a
head coach, and he is taking those things and really
put him into action by building a team that is
going to be around for a while that is a
heavyweight contended. They have everything. They have size, speed, they
have physicality, they have playmakers, they have a quarterback. It's

(11:05):
a really good program and they look really good going
on the road taking down the defending national champs.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Should I put the kiss to death in their quarterback,
Quinn Ewers? I mean, yesterday you threw for a two
forty six and three touchdowns. So is he a Heisman
candidate right now? Because if I say that he'll be,
he'll probably fall into a manhole or something really, But
is he updated with the Heisman candidates right now?

Speaker 4 (11:26):
I mean, I don't know. I mean, I mean, he
certainly is in the conversation as a Heisman candidate, and
it's so early in the race to we can't really
make determinations on who's who and what's what. But what
we can say is he's really good. And from an
NFL perspective, he's on the radar. He is vying to
be the number one quarterback off the board, and you

(11:47):
watch him play the poise, the savvy, uh, just the
overall talent and the packaging. He's everything that you look
for in the franchise quarterback. And if you can do
it on the big stage with the long corns, you're
confident that he's gonna be able to do it the right.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
One of the better games yesterday, really and truly was
Iowa State beating Iowa in Iowa yesterday. Kyle Conrady had
a fifty four yard field goal right down the stretch
and only it looked like a different team in the
second half. Iowa State was going to be thrown out
of the stadium. In the first half. They came back.
They beat him. Twenty nineteen that's a big win for
Iowa State, real big win because right now Iowa had

(12:24):
some offense in their first game of the year that
had some offense yesterday. That's unusual for that Iowa team.
The defensive basically they all defense, and yesterday come in
there at Iowa to lose. Big loss for Iowa yesterday.

Speaker 4 (12:37):
Yeah, big loss. And Kirk Faris's first game back, he
suspended for the first game, and so to see him
on the sideline, to see the hawk ass kind of
doing their thing. You know, it's funny because they jump
out them and it looked like they were going to
have their way with Iowa from beginning to end. It
looked like they were going to absolutely run them out
the building in a very physical fashion. Iowa State settled in.

(12:58):
Matt Camill got great place from his quarterback. The second half.
They made some time he stops and you look up
the cyclone swipe one at the end. So it's a
great win for that program. You know, they kind of
made a rise where Matt Campbell's name was hot, he
was interviewing for pro jobs. Then they fell back the
last two years. But now it seems like they're training
in the right direction. That was a big win for

(13:19):
them to knock off the Arcives.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
You know, I like Matt Campbell. I remember when he
coached the Telia. It was a good guy. They were
down thirteen nothing at the half yesterday and their record
Iowa State was one and seven against Iowa going into
yesterday's game. So it was a big win for Matt Campbell.
He's a good guy and I'm glad to see that. Basically,
they won that game. But you know, came into the
segment today I said unranked, but interesting, and I'm talking
about Colorado Nebraska. And look, you know I feel for

(13:42):
Deon sand I looked at him on the sidelines yesterday.
He was like helpless. I mean, they got smashed by
Nebraska thirty six fourteen, and I felt bad for his son,
the quarterback, because he was sacked something like seven times yesterday.
It was it was unbelievable. I mean I had never
seen anything like that. And look, I understand both teams
are unranked, but to put them on national TV last

(14:03):
night tells you what he has done for the program.
You could complain. You may not like the Unsanders, you
may have some problems with what he does, how he
treats the press whatever it may be. But the point
is this, he has taken Colorado to another level where
everybody wants to find out what they do good, bitter
and different. And that's why he was on national television
last night and that's why I watched the game.

Speaker 4 (14:23):
Well yeah, no, I mean he's box office in terms
of like the numbers that they generate when they're on TV.
I mean significant. But at sometimes, at some time it's
going to go away from being the novelty act and
they have to kind of show and prove that they're
worthy of like the spotlight and the attention and the
conversation that they have. First thing, let me say this though,

(14:44):
Maverick's done a terrific job in Nebraska. Nebraska that we
saw yesterday last night. Those are Nebraska teams of old, physical,
can run the football when they needed to because the court,
the score could have been a greater margin if not
for some pill needs brought some long runs back. The
quarterback is young, but he takes care of the ball,
dealing with Yola, and there's just an aura about that place.

(15:07):
You saw that stadium. That stadium used to sell out.
I think they had a streak of three hundred and
eighty seven straight sellouts at one point. I mean, Nebraska's back,
and so it's a lot about DM but Nebraska is
certainly a really good program.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Right, I mean, I just I don't understand how all
of a sudden, I mean, the team looked like they
had no one on the offensive line. I mean there
was like no one there. I mean, is Nebraska that's strong?

Speaker 5 (15:27):
That good?

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Are we going to see Nebraska really roll now? Or
is this when you know one of those things like well,
you know it's a fluke. I don't know. I mean
they have the home crowd. I mean, they had like
ninety thousand people for a volleyball game in the Brassa.
These people are nuts. There's nothing else to do there,
I guess in Lincoln, right, I remember they had an
outdoor volleyball game last year for their volleyball team that

(15:49):
like ninety thousand. So what do they have over one
hundred and ten thousand yesterday? It's unreal what they do
over there. But they really gave it the Colorado When
I felt bad for Dan, I really did. I just
I hope he doesn't pack it in after this year.
I really don't.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
I don't think. I don't think he's built like that.
I don't think he's built to pack it in like that.
But what I will say is they have to improve,
and they have to improve in a few different areas
and look into trenches is where games are going to
be won at the highest level. You look at the
top teams in college football, they are good on the
offensive and defensive line. What I saw last night and

(16:24):
watching that game, Nebraska's really good on the defensive line.
They're single digit players, number zero, number one, number nine,
the linebacker number five coming through. They made a lot
of plays and they really beat Colorado up without doing
a lot of tricks and blitzing and those things. They're
really good. I don't see the same from Colorado, but
I will say their defense has improved from last season.

(16:47):
Now their offense has to have a little more of
the consistency. It's early in the season and I would
say reasonable expectations and Boulders should be to get this
team to seven wins so they can go to a
bowl game. In fact, it makes everyone think that they
should be national contenders right away. And some of that
is his own fault because of the Bravado and the talk.
But if they can get to seven wins, that would

(17:08):
be success for me.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Looking at Colorado, I love Travis Hunter. I love his attitude,
of his passion. I saw him on the sidelines yesterday.
I mean he was just really he was upset. I
mean he was just a passionate guy. He's a great
football player, and you know, I hope some of that
rubs off on his teammates over there. But hopefully they'll
come back strong next week. I'd like to see that
told about strong Tennessee. They gave it to North Carolina

(17:30):
State yesterday fifty one to ten. I mean, honestly, on
North Carolina State, you think that they may be a
shot to win the ACC and you would never believed yesterday.
Look at JV game against Tennessee. Tennessee's pretty strong too.
I mean they held NC State like one hundred and
forty total yards. Unbelievable. I'd like to say one one
and a half yards per carry. A great defense for
Tennessee yesterday, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Great defense for Tennessee. I mean, the volunteers are legit.
They have a calip A quarterback that's pretty good in Nico.
They can run the football, they stretch you out. I mean,
they really stretch you with their offense and defensively, man,
they look like they're beginning to be built the right way.
This is a team that we've talked about for a
little while, but it looks like the pieces of the
postles are coming together for Josh eipel Sneaky good sneaky

(18:16):
creeping into not only playoff contention, but maybe one of
those teams we talked about in the semifinals.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Right, And let's, but not least, le's go back to
Oregon again because they almost almost lost to Idaho in
week one, and yesterday they were taken to the wire again.
But Idaho yesterday beats up on Wyoming seventeen thirteen. So
you got these schools that you really don't consider big
time schools. But now Idaho's winning. I mean, so that's

(18:42):
a good win for Idough yesterday over the previously undefeated
Wyoming Cowboys. So I guess it's hard to keep track
of those scores when you're on the East coast, East
coast time and those games start so late. I mean,
that's why maybe you don't hear about them. But these
teams aren't bad. Idah is not a bad team. I
think Marvin Lewis played for Idaho. I'm not mistaken he.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
Did, think well, I think he might have played to
Idaho State. I think he might have played the Idaho State.
But those yeah, those guys are pretty good. And you're right,
you guys have a West coast bias. You don't think
ball can be played anywhere right west of the Mississippi.
But yeah, there's good ball that's played out there, because
the way that you talked about Boise, Now that you're
acknowledging that Idaho gets a win against Wyoming and maybe

(19:23):
that score that Oregon had against the Vandals isn't so bad. Yeah,
there's good ball that that comes out. And you know,
I know it's more than just the Midwestern and South
Andy more more more ball is played outside of the millwhanks.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
I'll learn he's Bucket Brooks. I learned from them all

Speaker 2 (20:45):
Well, let's comeing right. It is the King. That's Stevie Wonder.
He's the King. I didn't know doubt about that. All right,
here's another king, my guy, Bucky Brooks and yeah, I'm
Andy Freman. We are Fox Football Sunday at Fox Sports Radio.
And by the way, football fans, I know you are

Kickoff presented by bet MGM right here on Fox Sports
Ready and of course the iHeart Radio app. Now, let's
get into this because I said, where was the king
to talk about? Thursday night? Buck roll back the calendar

(21:27):
a little bit. Chiefs went over the Ravens twenty seven
to twenty. Good game, But what about all those offensive
line penalties? It was unbelievable, sir. The Baltimore Ravens couldn't
make it a single drive before drawing three different flags
for illegal formations committed by their left tackle Ronnie Stanley,
four times in the first hailf Please explain to me
why all the flags for illegal formation? Are we going

(21:50):
to see this like every week now? In the NFL?
What is that all about?

Speaker 4 (21:54):
So the illegal formation is in response to defensive coordinators
and defenders complaining about the depth of the offensive tackles.
If you look at the line when you're watching TV,
all of the guys should be in a straight line
with the center, I meaning they're at the depth. Now,
normally the rules will give you can be back, but
the head when you're in your stance, the ear hole

(22:17):
in your helmet should be in line with the hips
of the center. Anything deeper into that is a problem.
What you're seeing, though, is almost like a flying V
formation where you have these offensive tackles a yard and
a half behind the line of scrimmage and they're keep
backing up and so what they're trying to do is
eliminate that. The reason why linemen want to do that
is they want to take the angles away from the

(22:38):
speed rushers coming off the edge. They're feel for that
if they're in their normal alignment, the speed would just
allow the defensive pass rusher to blow past them on
an upfield rush, and so that's why they're doing it.
But the league is cracking down, particularly after last year
watching Juwan Taylor jump snaps in those things. They're paying

(22:58):
really really close attention into office alignment and where they aligned.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
And I had some of that in Friday night's game
with Green Bay and Philadelphia as well. I mean, so
they're going to be on top of this call, I
think the officials, aren't they?

Speaker 4 (23:10):
Yeah, I mean it appears that it's been a point
of emphasis that has been talked about in the offseason.
Anytime you see that, anytime you have those kinds of discussions,
it means that they're gonna penalize it early to try
and make sure they get it under control.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
All right, So let's get back to the game for
a second.

Speaker 7 (23:24):
Right now.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
I think you know, if I'm a defensive coordinator, it's
quite easy. How do you beat the Kansas City Chiefs?
Keep Patrick Mahomes on the bench? Really, that's really that's
how you do it. And how do you do that?
I mean, look, you got the King King Henry, Derek Henry.
They're running back, given the ball, Shove the ball on
his belly, let him run, move the chains, run the
clock down. So I look at the stats after the
game and say, wait a minute. Derek Henry, who scored

(23:46):
the first touchdown on that game, had only thirteen carries
for forty six yards. What gives why only thirteen carries
for the King.

Speaker 4 (23:55):
I think it's part of a low management strategy, if
in terms of making sure that he's available for them
late in the season, but it's also Todd munkin running
his offense. This offense was never going to be the
ground and pound offense that we saw from Greg Roman. Like.
They wanted to go in a different direction. They want
to lean on Lamar Jackson to do things a little differently,

(24:19):
and this is what we're going to see a mix
of smash mouth with some finase and some past centric
stuff that will showcase the quarterback. But it's not going
to be the old offense that we look that we
saw for so long in Baltimore.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
Okay, let's talk about Isaiah Likely. Is he like the
number one tight end? Now? What about Mark Andrews Because
he really wasn't involved that much either in that game
Thursday night.

Speaker 4 (24:44):
They really believe in their two tight end package. They
believe in Isaiah Likely. They think he has an opportunity
to be a really special player and they can create
magic in their twelve personnel sets, meaning they have two
tight ends on the field. It's early. You know, it
takes about four or five weeks for a team to
figure out who can do what and what their needed
identity needs to be going forward. Is still the exploratory phases,

(25:06):
like you would like to win during those moments, but
this is the experiment exploring seeing what they can do,
what they can how can they attack.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
I'll say this, and maybe I'm way off base, and
I'm sure you'll tell me if I am. Okay, I
look forward to that game. It's a great rematcher list.
He has playoff game between Baltimore and Kansas City, and
it's a great TV deal, and the ratings were tremendous.
They say it was the best opening night NFL TV
has had ever. Right, so everything's in place for big

(25:35):
time deals. But you know, as well as I do,
these teams have a lot of rush on them prior
to coming to the first game of the season. A
lot of these regular starters had not played in preseason.
I don't think it's fair. I don't think it's fair
for the players to have a game like that to
start the season. It's great for fans, it's great for hype,
it's great for the schedule, it's great for the league,

(25:57):
But I don't think it's great for the players. Is
that fair statement? Because you know we'll see Chiefs Ravens
maybe down the road, you may see two completely different
teams and a different outlook on this game.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
I mean you see them down alert, but I mean
the team, Your team continues to evolve. Good coaches are
always working and tinkering with their team. They're always trying
to develop the team. So the version that we saw
of the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansaity Chiefs, hopefully we'll
see better versions down the line. But it's one of
those things that you can learn from. So it's not
only the Chiefs and Ravens's also is the Packers and

(26:31):
the Eagles and going to Brazil and dealing with all
of the travel and all that stuff. It may be inconvenience,
but it's the league and this is what you do.
You had a week and a half to get prepared
for it. You've had all the off season to tell
you players, this is how you attack it. And yes,
we will see more international games, and we may see
the league decide to do a bunch of these things
over Labor Day so they can dominate the holiday.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
Yeah, I wasn't too pleased by the Friday niking was
always the Friday's were reserved for high school football. But
that's another story for another day, right, I mean, I.

Speaker 4 (27:00):
Just see college took that over though. See, but here's
what happened. When college took it over. It kind of
eliminated that. When you started seeing colleges play on Fridays. Yeah,
that look that that disrupted the agreement. So before colleges
can talk about the league taking saturdays or whatever, they
kind of messed it up by taking Fridays. Because you're right,
Friday nights is supposed to be preserved for the high

(27:20):
school game. But when they started venturing into those territories
having Friday night football games that were college or now pros,
we gonna see more of it because once it happens,
it's never going back. It's not going to go back.
So that's probably going to be commonplace in a few years.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
You're exactly right. He's Bucky Brooks. He's always right. I'm
Andy fermerwee are Fox Football Sunday on Fox. But it's
right now coming up next on Fox Life from the
Tyrock dot Com Studios. No, their stats look good. But
where were the points? That's next. But he always looks good,
he really does. That's Kevin Wyatt with you a sport.

Speaker 5 (27:52):
Yes, that's why I'm on the radio and not television,
so anyway, he can't take a compliment. Anyway, we do.
You have some injury updates for today's slate of NFL games,
and Adam Schefter actually along with Nick Wagoner, who's the
beat rider for the San Francisco forty nine, are saying
that Trent Williams should have a full workload on Monday.

(28:14):
But the second note, which is key for fantasy owners,
wide receiver Brandon Ayuk will be on a reduced snap count.
Other injury updates and Rappaport with a few overnight. Seahawks
wide receiver Tyler Lockett is questionable the thigh injury. Is
expected to play today. Dolphins corner Jalen Ramsey has a

(28:34):
hamstring issue. He's going to attempt to play today, However,
he's listening as questionable and he won't be a full go.
He's gonna try to give it a go, but he's
gonna be on a limited pitch count. Lions offensive tackle
Dj Reader is dealing with a significant quad injury. He's
been trying to return from that, but he's not quite ready.
Ian Rapaport's sources say that next week it'll be a

(28:56):
more realistic timeline for him to come back to action.
And wide receiver Key and Allen of the Bears dealing
with a heel injury and pass whatcher Montes sweat. They're
both listened as questionable and expected to play today. Adam
Schefter with another note as Antonio Gibson questionable for Sunday's
opener against the Bengals with a hip injury. He does
plan to play. Other notes Russell Wilson, he's listened as

(29:20):
questionable with a calf injury. He told the team that
he can play against the Falcons, but team doctors are
being more cautious. The team plans to make a final
decision about his status before the game today. Other injury news,
quarterback Jordan Love. He tweaked his leg with six seconds
to go in their game against the Eagles in Brazil,

(29:41):
and they feared the worst, did the Packers, but it
is an MCL spraying. He'll be out three to six weeks,
but much better than the potential season ending injury that
many were afraid of and Christian McCaffrey saying that he
will play on monday's been dealing with a calf calf
issue and was limited in practice on Friday. In college football,

(30:03):
the episode of the day in South Bend, Northern Illinois
arguably the biggest win in program history, blocking Notre Dames
go ahead field goal attempt in the final seconds to
secure the sixteen to fourteen win. Top ten match up
in ann Arbor, Number three Texas thirty one twelve winners
against number ten Michigan and number seven Ore Again. They
struggled against Boise State, but did kick a walk off

(30:25):
field goal to win at thirty seven to thirty four.
Number eight Penn State had to come back to beat
Bowling Green thirty four to twenty seven. Back to you, guys, Hi,
Thanks Kevseyeing. Now, don't call him elite. That's right around
the corner. He's Bucky Brooks.

Speaker 2 (30:36):
He is elite. Im Andy Furman, we are Fox Football
Sunday and Fox Sports Rady. We got asked Bucky in
about four or five minutes from now. It's got to
Brazil Friday Night. Eagles over the pack of thirty seven
to twenty nine. Let's talk about the Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. Okay,
twenty for thirty four to two to seven of the
eight two touchdowns, two iNTS. Don't call him at leade.
He still had giveaways. He had three giveaways in fact
in that game, an interception in the red zone and

(30:58):
the Eagles were up thirty one twenty six. That was
in the fourth quarter and they were looking to get
out of that. They really well, but they won the
ball game. He botched the fumble on the one yard line.
Who was your cold by sa kuon Barkley Giants? Are
you hearing that? How do you let him go to
preserve the ball for the Eagles? And Hurts have three
giveaways as mentioned in the red zone, so you know
they got some problems with him still. I mean, he's

(31:18):
just one of those guys that gives the ball away.
He does well.

Speaker 4 (31:22):
I mean, that's what he's shown to be. Most recently
he has turned it over. I would say one of
the issues that you have when it comes to Jalen
Hurts is just understanding what his game is and how
he needs to play. But the brid zone interception they had,
I mean, look, it's inexcusable for a player of his
caliber to be making those kinds of mistakes, and it's
one of the things that he'll have to continue to

(31:43):
work through. But it's annoying if you're a fan to
kind of see this stuff kind of happen, because that
was a game that could have been and maybe should
have been more lopsided than it was.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
More than that. If you were to look at the
box score after the game, you would have thought the
Packers won that game over seven yards per play. Per
play seven yards, they had four hundred and fourteen yards
on offense. There were, but here's the downfall. One for
four in the red zone, all right, had a kick
a field goal in the fourth quarter on the Eagles
eight yard line. That was a killer. I mean, they

(32:15):
couldn't put into the ends of that go for a
field goal. And Jordan Love fourth for nine for twenty
four yards in the red zone, Packers three of eleven
and third downs. I'm not cursing Jordan Love right now.
Maybe yes, the last year, the second half at least,
maybe that was just magic. I don't know. Time will tell,
but honestly, he was not the guy that people are

(32:39):
saying he's going to be the MVP I've read some
places that Jordan Love's going to be the MVP this year,
which I don't think is going to happen. Arley Gordon,
look at the heisman. Before Jordan Love gets the MVP.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
You making declarations off one game. You've seen one game,
four quarters of action, and were ready to say that
he won't get it. Well, he's not alone like that.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
I'm not alone.

Speaker 4 (32:58):
Yeah, he's likely to get it right now because he
may be on the shell for three to four weeks
with an MCL injury. Luckily he didn't. He escaped with
out having a more significant injury. But it looks like
he's gonna be shell for a while, so that's going
to kind of cripple his chances of winning the MVP.
But I do like it. I like you trying to

(33:21):
pick an MVP after four quarters action, sixty minutes, we
got it all figured out.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
Well, look, I mean again, if you want to go
of MVP, let's still this Sae Kwon Barkley. I mean, well,
if you're the Giants right now, don't you think the
Mara family at least, because when I watch Hard Knocks,
you know the Maras they wanted him there. They wanted
it to stay with the Giants and the GMS. They
could have worked that out, believe me. I mean, he
was sixty percent of that offense last year. He's got

(33:47):
three touchdowns against the Packers, and really and truly he
added a new dimension to the Philadelphia Eagles right now.
I mean seriously, a thirty four yard run, the two
rushing and one won the receiving touchdown. He was right,
He really was.

Speaker 4 (34:01):
Uh he was. And it is one of those things
that will be baffling and mind boggling. And given the
offseason hard knocks where the New York Giants LT cameras
into their building and you can hear and see the
discussions regarding Saquon Barkley and Saquon Barkley at the owner's

(34:23):
behest getting out of the building and going to the
Philadelphia Eagles, knowing he was one of the more popular Giants.
It is going to force some hiss to roll if
they struggle and Saquon Barkley becomes celebrated as an MVP
caliber playmaker in Philly for a bitter rival. Yeah, this

(34:44):
is not a good look and it should have never
been a good look. It went around New York when
they decided to pay Daniel Jones instead of Saquon Barkley,
even though everyone within the team and around the team
knew that this offense goes as Saquon Barkley went. When
you make that just it's a polarizing move and it's
one debt. Man. I know Giants fans were cringing, but

(35:06):
they're also like, that's okay, let's just see what our
team looks like on Sunday. A lot of pressure on
the Giants right now because of the emergency of Saquon Barkley.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
You're exactly right. He's Bucky Brooks, some Mady Firmwheel, Fox
Football Sunday on Fox Sports. Ready, now he's got only answers.
Ask Bucky as next, ask Bucky, coming right up. It's
about maybe eleven minutes before the top of an hour.
This is Fox Football Sunday and Fox Sports Radio. He's
Bucky Brooks at Mandy Firmanent. We live from the ti
iraq dot Com studios. But right now, let's ask Bucky.

(35:38):
Here we go. Now, I got to ask you, this
is like the first Sunday of the NFL season. Pick
your biggest shakra, maybe on today's schedule, and tell me
why biggest chakra today.

Speaker 4 (35:49):
Biggest shocker the Atlanta Falcons knock it off to Pittsburgh Steelers.
H And I'm just gonna say the Shaka is gonna
be because the offense is gonna look so good with
Kirk Cousins. There's been a lot of constane about Kirk
Cousins since they drafted Michael Pennant's I think Kirk Cousins
kind of shows and improves the football world why they're
gonna be able to get it done.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
I'm going to write that down. I'm going to write
that down, big shot gun. I love that. Okay, now
let's get to the NFL new kickoff rule. After two games,
right now, there's only five or twenty four kickoff returns.
What do you think about this new rule? I mean,
I'd like to see guys come back and run the
football back on a kickoff return. You got five out
of twenty four. That doesn't make sense.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
It does make sense because if you are the kicking team,
you're weighing the odds. The average return has gotten to
the twenty nine. The risk of not knowing how to
deal with something new is a a big touchdown return.
So what you do is you're like, hey, you know what,
I won't even take the risk. Y'all have a ball
at the thirty one, lineup and play and you kind

(36:48):
of knew that most teams were going to do that.
You got to if you want returns, you got to
punish the kicking team for not kicking the ball in
the end zone. And the way that you do that
is move the ball out to the thirty five to forty.
That incentivizes everybody to make it a kick where we
have to see it returned.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
That's a great point. And you know that Andy Reid's
telling those his telews kickers just kick it out, kick
it out. I mean, I don't want to run back.
That's what he did on Thursday night, right, and that
they didn't have any runbacks. It's crazy. And that's a
great part of the game, isn't it. I mean, I
love that that's part of football. I mean, I understand
they won safety, but you know what, when you sign
up to play football and you know that you played

(37:27):
the game, did this risk to evolved? There really is?
But this risk is in any game, in any job,
if you're a jet pilot, is a risk, right, I mean,
come on, this risk in football, and that's why you
get paid the big bucks. Come on, let them run
the fall of the ball back.

Speaker 4 (37:40):
Yeah, I mean, like this is you open, But I
think it will require them to do some tweaking to
the rule to get everyone to kind of buy in
to say I'm gonna put the ball.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
In play perfect Okay, Now, how surprised to you, Bucket
Brooks with Bill Belichick's and Nick Saban's transition to broadcasting.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
Not surprised at all because you knew they had a
lot of wisdom to offer it this matter. Could they
present it in a way that would be entertaining when
you have their resumes, It's less about entertainment and nor
about the knowledge. It's been a surprise that both of
them are funny and engaging. I love seeing both either
one of them on TV because I know I'm going

(38:16):
to walk away from that segment learning more about football
than I knew prior to.

Speaker 2 (38:21):
Right, I feel that way with you, I really do now.
Lamar Jackson missed two possible scoring tries for the Ravens
at the end of the Chiefs game on Thursday night. Now,
to me, that's not what you expect from a two
time NFL MVP. Now it was Tom Brady behind behind center,
maybe a Peyton Manning. I think they would have scored.
Is just too critical of an assessment of Lamar Jackson

(38:44):
is too critical.

Speaker 4 (38:47):
He's done a lot in this league. As a two
time MVP. You expect him to do certain things. It's
just a matter of him doing it on a bigger
stage and in a game there was a marquee matchup
against Mahomes. Yeah, he's going to be compared and criticized
because he doesn't look like Pack Mahomes some of those moments.
Until he's able to do that consistently, he always gets

(39:09):
some of this blow back. It's not a knock to him,
but it's the expectations that come along with being an
MVP player.

Speaker 2 (39:14):
Right, Okay, Now, we talked about this early on with
Attle expansion over here on this The goal playing the
Chiefs is easy keep Patrick Mahomes off the field, And
I asked, why didn't Derek Henry get more carries? Maybe
he could expand on that. I like to know.

Speaker 4 (39:28):
I just think there's a different style of offense. We're
so used to seeing Derrick Henry in that sledge hammer
style offense in Tennessee and even going back to his
days at Alabama, the way they used him, Baltimore has
a different offense. It's a little more alets spread it out,
that's thought around the yard, a little less of la
Mar Jackson and now Derrick Henry and some of the
Reid option games that many of us anticipated. But all

(39:49):
it takes is a few more losses, a few more
head crockings before you change and say, you know what, guys,
we can go back to what works for us.

Speaker 2 (39:55):
And as we go game, are the Chiefs still a
team to be? If not? Who is?

Speaker 4 (40:00):
Oh? The Chiefs are the team to beat. They are
defending back to back champs. So yeah, until someone shows
that they have the guts and the talent to be
able to beat them, they can't see. The Chiefs are
pilc it in as the number one.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
All right, biggest individual performance today, perhaps that one.

Speaker 4 (40:16):
Hold on, hold on, hold on to that.

Speaker 2 (40:19):
We'll do that later. Hey, Bucket calls them asleep and we'll
tell you who they are next on Fox.

Speaker 1 (40:25):
Don't listening to Fox Sports?

Speaker 2 (40:28):
All right, we have the bounce back players for you.
We'll have them for you in just about a minute.
Good morning, This is NFL Sunday. Yes, get ready on
Fox Sports Football on Fox Sports Ready. Here is Bucky Brooks.
I'm Andy Furman, and we are broadcasting live from the
ti iraq dot com studios tyraq dot com. We'll help
you get there and on match selection fans, free shipping,

(40:49):
free road has a protection and over ten thousand recommended
installers ti raq dot com The way tire buying should
be here. He is Bucky Brooks. Tell us Bucky, today,
your typical Sunday football day for viewing? What do you do?
How do you do it? Where you're doing it at?

Speaker 4 (41:06):
So it's different now because I'm doing sideline work for
the Jacksonville Jaguars. So my team will eventually take place
in the airport, but I'm in Miami. I will do
the game from the sideline. I'll do the sideline reports
and those things, and then after the game, I'll make
my way to the airport, found a little lounge to
watch and catch up on what took place.

Speaker 2 (41:26):
That's wonderful. How do you get that gig? That sideline deal.

Speaker 4 (41:31):
I've been doing it for a few years, but I
played in Jacksonville mid nineties and so it's been a
pretty cool deal. I was doing their preseason games and
so it was a natural transition for me.

Speaker 2 (41:41):
Good for you. How can I catch you on TV
doing that some way? I mean, I don't think I
get I'm not going to get.

Speaker 4 (41:46):
The Jackson Radio all radio serious the radio. I mean,
I guess the team. The team's the team channel. That'll
be it.

Speaker 2 (41:55):
I'll get it. I'll pick it up. I'm listening to
this after and I can't wait. I'll have that on one.
I'll have that on and I'll have the Bengals game.
I'm not going to the game. I'm gonna watch the
Bengals game on TV.

Speaker 4 (42:04):
All right.

Speaker 5 (42:04):
Now.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
I did have this question for you at the end
of the last hour, but I said, let's pull it
over here. The biggest individual performance today and any one
of the games. Who do you think it's going to be?

Speaker 4 (42:16):
M such tough one because there's so many really good
matchups and a few different ways that I want to go.
Like my natural inclination is to see, you know, one
of the stars kind of do their thing, CJ. Stroud
or whatever. But I think I'm gonna go with like
a younger player because I think on major stages sometimes
young players can surprise. So let's go with Jayden Daniels

(42:36):
having a monster game for the Washington Commanders.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
All right, I hear you right now. All right, let's
go Bucket Brooks right now, he's number one NFL dot
Com every week. He's also on the sidelines. He writes,
he plays, he does it all okay, And you wrote
this week on NFL dot Com and I really enjoyed it.
But I'm gonna challenge you a little bit, and I
know you'll have the answer. But you said the sleeper,
the sleeper this year, the sleeper team, and you said

(42:59):
the Cleveland brown I mean there's a team that went
eleven games last year. I know how they were a sleeper.
Why are they asleeper? And why not the Texans are
the Chargers? Because to me, I think the Texans right
now could very well be the sleeper in my mind.

Speaker 8 (43:11):
Now.

Speaker 4 (43:12):
See, I think sleepers are teams that aren't being talked about.
I don't think anyone is touting the Browns is a
title contender. I think we've heard people talk about the
Houston Texans and c J. Stroud being an MVP candidate
and those things. With the Chargers, I just think the
Chargers will take more than just one year to fix
and turn around. I love Jim Harbaugh, and I look,

(43:33):
I think it's really apparent how good of a coach
he is after watching Michigan get Molly Watt by Texas yesterday.
But I just think this is a situation where they're
just gonna need some time to kind of figure it out.
I think they'd be very competitive. They may be sticking
to the postseason. I just don't see that my title
continuer yet.

Speaker 2 (43:50):
Okay, now, let's talk about the Cleveland Browns for a second,
because they played at Bengals twice during the same division,
which about in my mind, is the toughest division in football.
It's all about the Shaun Watson right now. I gotta
believe up because he's under tons of pressure, tons of
pressure for this guy. He's got rushed on it for
almost two years. He's got to get healthy, he's got
to stay healthy, and he's got to really and truly
live up in my mind, to that contract with something

(44:11):
like two hundred thirty million dollars, which was crazy, but
it was fully guaranteed, which is nuts. And so far
that trade that Cleveland made for him, you got a
rate as an F minus A total disappointment.

Speaker 4 (44:25):
A hundred percent. Yeah, look, it's been a disappointment. You
think about the last few times we've seen him play,
they have him played particularly well. You got to remember
when he was at Houston, he's a three time Pro
Bowl player. He is a guy that led them like
Senor Handley. He had almost an MVP caliber season four
team that was four and twelve when he had thirty
three touchdowns in only seven interceptions. He has not been

(44:47):
anywhere close to that player since arrived in Cleveland. You
talk about Pat like he has barely gotten above sixty
percent with his completion rate. You're not seeing the same
playmaking and all of those things, and so so I'm
excited to see what he's able to do with Ken
Dorsey coming over. Ken Dorsey certainly helped Cam Newton prepared
work with Josh Allen, helped those guys get right in

(45:08):
Buffalo as an assistant with under Bryan day Ball, and
actually did some really good things when he was the
offensive coordinator. So I believe that the things are kind
of pointing in the right direction for the Browns, but
a lot of it hinges on Deshaun Watson being what
we thought Sean Watson was right.

Speaker 2 (45:25):
And I think that the Shaun Watson thing takes fore
front because obviously the legal issues that he had, the
contract he signed, the fact that he hasn't played, and
certainly the position that he plays, that's a big deal.
But I'm going to talk about Nick Chubb because he
had that knee surgery, and I think that's a big,
big blow. I don't know if he's going to come back.
Will they come back healthy? They say he's going to
come back maybe after four or five games. I don't know.

(45:46):
They have a little bit of depth behind them, but
I don't think it's a Nick Chubb depth is dron
Ford Deontay Foreman. I don't think they have anything that
Nick Chubb as. What do you think about those guys?

Speaker 4 (45:56):
Yeah, no, I mean I think that's a big thing.
Nick Chubb is a huge part of the equation. And
even though they can go and get those weapons on
the outside, they need to be able to run the football.
The dog pound is cold, you know what. Obviously, living
in Ohio, you got to be able to kind of
put your big boy pads on and play rocking soccer
robots against heavyweights in this division, Baltimore, Cincinnati, they're gonna

(46:17):
be there. You just know Pittsburgh is always gonna be
a physical team. And so it's on the Browns be
able to figure out how to run the football while
protecting the quarterback and making sure that they can take
shots down the field.

Speaker 2 (46:27):
Okay, let's talk about this. He say, Deshaun Watson say
he comes back and he's just real rusty. He doesn't
get it done. Whatever it may be. Maybe he doesn't
stay healthy. I don't know. Is Jameis Winston the guy?
Could he get it done for him?

Speaker 4 (46:42):
I think so. The biggest thing with Jamis is not
his ability to start and win games, is can he
take care of the football. When he takes care of
the football, they win and they're going to continue to win.
But when he's a quarterback, but when he doesn't, it
becomes problematic. The thing he has to do if he
gets a chance, just don't try and do too much.
Keep game simple. If he keeps the game simple, he's
going to be fine.

Speaker 2 (47:03):
You know, it's funny because you look at the schedule
and the last thing I want to do is kind
of predict. You just can't do that. People do it
all the time. You know, I predict WS and l's
and certainly so many factors go into that injury, whatever
it may be. They play Dallas today, I think they
should take Dallas. The game is at home. But after
that they got a pretty easy road, they really do.
And I hate to tell you this, but next week

(47:24):
is that Jacksonville your place? But they should be Jacksonville.
They should be the Giants, and they probably could bet
Vegas at Vegas and then after that it's Washington. So
I think they got a decent road ahead of them
where they could probably be like five and one. They
really could. But again, I'm not one of those guys
that predicts, and it doesn't really mean anything you talk
about prediction, but I think that's the possibility right there.

Speaker 4 (47:46):
Oh okay, So it sounds like you predicted, Like I
wonder who's that one coming from? Who's that one coming from?
Are you saying the ones coming today and then they
can go five and one or are you saying the
ones coming next week? Like when is the one coming?
I think that's well the most important for me in
terms of our relationship.

Speaker 1 (48:01):
It depends on what I'm juggling.

Speaker 2 (48:05):
I'm juggling the one between today Dallas and October the
thirteenth at Philadelphia. That's good to be. I don't think
they're gonna lose both of those. That's gonna be the.

Speaker 4 (48:15):
One, Okay, all right?

Speaker 2 (48:17):
Is that is that fair?

Speaker 4 (48:18):
I get it. That is fair.

Speaker 2 (48:20):
So they're the paper Titans. So I ask you, why
aren't the Texans and the Chargers paper tigers.

Speaker 4 (48:29):
Well, I would say, like the Texans in Charges. The
reason why I can't say that they are the teams
that are going to be the sleepers or whatever is
just because when I look at the Texans, I think
it's a lot of newness that come to them. Last year,
they benefited from flying under the radar, being a team
that no one thought about, and before you could get
ready to up your game against them, they were on you.

(48:50):
And that confidence that they had was enough to propel them.
But now they got to deal with the weight of expectations.
Remember before last season, we thought this team would be
maybe win two three games. They surprised us all because CJ.
Strout was better than anyone anticipated, and it worked for them.
Now they walk into a situation where they're viewed as
a favorite and they're playing a tougher schedule could be

(49:12):
a little more difficult and tricky for them. The Chargers
mass exodus of offensive talent, and even though I love
what Harbor and Greg Roman have traditioning done with the run,
you got to have somebody that people fear on the perimeter.
There's not one player in the passing game that opposing
that opponents will fear. To me, that's tough because it's

(49:32):
hard to win that way. You don't change coverage. You
line up and we can say, hey, we can cover
you straight up. Man, it's hard to win when you
don't have any matchup advantages on the outside and they
don't have any matchup advantages on the outside.

Speaker 2 (49:45):
Okay, you use the term paper tiger with the San
Francisco forty nine ers. I'm not that small. What exactly
does that mean, paper tiger? And why the forty nine ers?

Speaker 9 (49:55):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (49:55):
Okay, paper tiger means like so like when you think
about something being for roch, but it doesn't have any
teeth behind it. It's all papers. It's a fake tiger.
It's not a real tiger. And so with the San
Francisco forty nine ers, what we're saying are the Niners
look like they should be ready to go back to back,
but they're gonna find that it's harder, much more difficult

(50:16):
to go back to a super Bowl after losing one
the previous year. It's rad has been done. I think
it's been done like three times in history Cowboys, Miami Dolphins,
Cowboys and Dolphins back to the years seventy seventy one,
and then the New England Patriots are the most recent
team to do it in twenty seventeen after they lost.
So we expecting the forty nine is to fast forward

(50:38):
to get right back to the spot and be able
to kind of run it back. There's a lot of
work to be done. And when you look at the
offseason and just how everyone has been complaining about their
contract and holding out and sitting out, and you don't
have Trent Williams and Brandan a Yuck in the field,
but Christian McCaffrey got his money early. I worry about
this team's locker room dynamic. Can they get along where

(50:59):
everyone is like, hey, it doesn't matter what you make,
how we do it, we're good. We're just going to
go and play. And then the final part of it,
like when you think about that dynamic. Understand this, When
they sign Brandan n Ayuk, it put Deebo Samuel on
the clock. How does Deebo Samuel play knowing that he's
on the clock, that he may be the trade victim
that he has to hear all of these rumors like

(51:19):
they kept Brandon Ayuk. They're gonna have to do some
with you because everyone's going to say you can't afford
two big money receivers. Okay, Well, if you're in that environment,
how do you feel about your role if you're not
the primary.

Speaker 2 (51:33):
You know, it's interesting that you bring that up, because
if I were to say that the locker room dynamic,
it doesn't mean anything because I've never been in the
locker room as a player. You've been there, okay, and
maybe me looking in from the outside. My take is
that you know, when you put the uniform on, all
you really want to do is win. You forget about
that stuff. You leave that outside. So I guess you're
telling me that's not true. I mean you bring it

(51:55):
in there. I mean on a Sunday afternoon, the game
is one o'clock, they probably get to the locker room
or nine thirty ten in the morning, they do their
stretching whatever they be, put the uniform on. All those
thoughts about contractual agreements, trade things, whatever, maybe that's gone.
You just concentrate on your opponent that day. Am I wrong?
I would think that that they have a goal to do.
Even even if you dislike someone on the team, the

(52:18):
guy the locker next to you, you can't stand them,
when it comes to Sunday, you put that aside and look,
he's your brother for that day because you got to
go out and do a similar job to win. And
after the game, he goes his way and you go
your way.

Speaker 4 (52:31):
Yeah, I mean, unfortunately, like that is the truth. I mean,
weird team, but it's fifty three independent contractors trying to
find a way to carve out careers. And even though
there are moments where it's really about the team and
you sacrifice willingly to make sure the team is better normally.
That's down the stretch. That's Super Bowl's playoff, wildcard round,

(52:53):
divisional round. That's that kind of attitude during the regular season. Yeah,
you can find yourself if you're not careful, count the
people's pockets, looking at what man this guy makes this
and this guy makes that. I'm better than both of
those guys. Why I'm not mate. You know, there's some
of that that comes along with it, and you can
try and manage it out or whatever, but ultimately, players
have to be willing to sacrifice some of their own

(53:14):
individual agenda stuff to help the team to give the
team the best chance of being able to win and
win at a high level consistently.

Speaker 2 (53:22):
Okay, let me get this now locally, because over here
in Cincinnati, Jamar Chase right now is holding out. He's
a hold in, and they say he may play, he
may not play today. Who knows what's going to happen
right now, And you're dealing with Mike Brown, he's very stubborn.
I think there's a big decision on the part of
the Bengals of Mike prom because they were set a
precedent in the National Football League that guys who have
contracts of a year or more left and he's got

(53:45):
two years left to break that contract and give an extension.
That's going to set a precedent. Really, And the rumor
was on the internet just the other day that Jamar Chase,
who played college football at LSU with Justin Jefferson, he
says he wants to get a contrac it's a dollar
more than justin Jefferson. I mean, and you got to
believe there are some people in that locker room saying

(54:07):
that soob right now, he's our teammate. He's killing us
right now, get on the field, forget about that stuff
and let's play and let's play football. That to me,
if it was if he's my teammate, it hurts morale,
It hurts what you're there for. You're there for one objective,
and that's to play football and win. And I think

(54:27):
he's hurting that whole apple card right now. And to
make matters worse, T Higgins of all people, comes out
in twenty four hours beforehand saying that he's got a
thigh injury and he's not playing. And the speculation maybe
is that he's defending Jamar, saying, don't worry, Jamar, I'll
take care of you. I won't play too.

Speaker 4 (54:48):
Well. I think there are a couple of things to
play out. I think you may be looking at it
differently because you're looking at it from the prism of
the player saying, oh, no, no, no, we need you
for the team, protect the team. I see it as T.
Higgins and others looking at the locker room to see
how the team is going to take care of their stars.
So if Jamar Chase ain't even T Higgins because they

(55:09):
didn't give T Higgins his money when he was up,
they're making him play on the franchise tag. And part
of that is because they're gonna sign Jamar Chase and
let T Higgins walk and T Higgins, as you're saying,
in a move of solidarity, I don't think it may
be that it may be a little one upsmanship from
him to the team. You don't want to pay me,
You're gonna pay Jamar cool I'm not playing, you know,

(55:31):
And so there can be some of that, And while
there's precedents that you don't want to break in those things,
Cincinnati has to kind of figure out what they want
to do and how they want to go forward. Mike
Brown has to make some tough decisions because if he
doesn't want to change the president, then he has to
be able to play without his top receiving Jamar Chase,
and force Jamar Chase to feel the pressure of not

(55:54):
getting paid checks, not getting significant money early in the
season to see if he'll relinquished that hold out.

Speaker 2 (56:02):
Okay, let me ask you this. They're playing the New
England Patriots today, and that team right now, Offensively, they're
challenge for sure of the Patriots. Defensively, they're still fairly strong.
They're not bad without Chase, without Higgins, how much would
that hurt the Bengals and that gives Does that give
the New England Patriots the opportunity really to beat the
Bengals today? I just think the Bengals are that much

(56:23):
better than the Patriots. But what about without Higgins and Chase?

Speaker 4 (56:28):
No, Look, even the teams that have significant advantages are
never better than more than a touchdown. You talk about
a league that is routinely decided by eight points of fewer.
If T Higgins and Jamar Chase don't play, I mean,
it becomes an even game. The Cincinnati Bingles definitely aren't
the favorite. After that, it becomes an even game, a

(56:50):
toss up. And you know, in those moments it's about
making plays and executing in those things which guys can
make plays under pressure. But losing T Higgins and Jamar
Chase would cripple this offense's approach and it would make
it very very difficult for start to drop a game plan.
That is winnable.

Speaker 2 (57:07):
It's amazing. It hurts me I think that, and I
guess Jamar doesn't care. I think there's gonna be a
real big pushback from the fan base if he doesn't
play today because he was a fan favorite, no doubt
about that. But I guess they don't care. I mean,
do players care about the fans honestly?

Speaker 4 (57:26):
Do that?

Speaker 2 (57:26):
I don't think.

Speaker 4 (57:27):
I mean they care to a point, but not at
the expensive career and your own money. In business, No,
I mean, you know what I'm saying, like not to
the point where a I'm appease to fans and I'm
gonna take this personal sacrifice. No, business is business, and
I think fans have to treat teams like business and

(57:48):
view it like business man Mike Brown could have ended
all this long time ago. You know, either be very
clear and definitive A Jamar, that's cool that you want
to get your deal, but we're not paying you, so
you can either whole out or whatever. But here's what
it's going to be. Same thing for T Higgins. Either
we're gonna pay T Higgins, or we're not paying T Higgins,
or we're gonna use the franchise tag and he can

(58:09):
pout in mope, but eventually he'll either sign it or
he won't play. And so if they're gonna be hard
line like they've been, he should be really hard line
and not kind of acquiesce to this whole in and whatever,
because now what you've done is you put Zack Taylor
in a tough spot. Zach Taylor on game day doesn't
know if he's gonna have his two top receivers, so

(58:30):
he hasn't been able to fully build out a game
plan that allows him to account for those things. So
Mike Brown has really hurt Zach Taylor more so than
these players have. Because if Jamar Chase didn't want to
practice or whatever, don't let him in the facility and
find him. That's part of the CVA.

Speaker 2 (58:50):
Well, what is your take as a former player in
the National Football League? Is Jamar Chase doing the right
thing as Mike Brown being steadfast as he doing the
right thing? Again? As I say, if he signs Jamar
Chase to an extension, that opens up the floodgates, that
sets a precedent to every player who wants to get

(59:10):
a new contract after more than one year remaining on
their contract. That because look, look what happened in Cleveland
with Deshaun Watson. That set the president for quarterbacks. It
really did. Jamar Chase could set the president right now
for receivers. What's your take on that?

Speaker 4 (59:26):
And it will because here's what I will say. Look
at Cincinnati's history and how they've done it. Jesse Bass
was a really good player. They didn't pay Jesse Bass
like there have been a number of players that have
been really good for them that have barked and complained
and whined about money. And he was like, yeah, that's cool.
You're gonna play on this tag and then you can
do whatever it is you want to do after this season.

(59:47):
I have a hard time believing that Mike Brown is
gonna cave. He hasn't done this, and if he does it,
his retort to those who come after Jamar Chase, you're
not Jamar Chase and Joe Burrow. They're the ones who
deserve this kind of treatment. Did the ones that can
get it, they will get it. You want Mazy, it
really is.

Speaker 2 (01:00:04):
I mean, it's gonna be interesting and it's gonna be
like a game time situation. So we'll see what's gonna
happen and certainly the betters in Vegas are gonna be
happy about this either. They don't know what to do.
I mean, this just changes everything as far as lines
on games, which we don't even touch about. But yeah,
people are interested in lines. They know where to go
and find that. That's for sure, all right. He is
Bucky Brooks. Get him on next, get him on Twitter,
wherever it may be. At Bucky Brooks at Swollen Dome.

(01:00:27):
That's Mike Harmon. He joins us the next hour at
Andy Furman FSR or better yet, and we've got Dick

hang in there, eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox
eight seven seven nine ninety six sixty three sixty nine.
We've got bottom barrel betting in this hour and has
mentioned the Swallow Dome himself an hour number three. But
someone is looking for revenge today, that's next.

Football Sunday right after we get off the air. Now,
now let's get into some football right now, we talk
about not a sure thing looking for revenge stealer Falcons, okay,
stealer offensive coordinator Arthur Smith perhaps looking for revenge against

(01:01:41):
his former team. Today. We'll see how much of a
fact will that come into play stealers Falcons today. And
I kind of like what you said. I think that
the Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins gonna have a big day
today looking at his receiver maybe one of his favorites.
So now it's going to be Drake London.

Speaker 4 (01:02:00):
Yeah, I would think he would be a big favorite.
Drake London is someone they're really excited about. They're trying
to showcase him, and so I would expect him to
get a ton of targets. He would get plenty of
action as he kind of established himself as one of
those emerging number one receivers in the league.

Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
And what about Russell Wilson's he going to play as
he healthy? Was to deal with Russell Wilson making his
start right now in Pittsburgh, his second life, so to speak,
I guess he's gonna be looking for George Pickens. And honestly,
I've got something in my mind. I'd like to see
the Stealers lose to help the Bengals, obviously, but because
I'm a fan, but I just think the Foulgers are

(01:02:35):
gonna win. But I think it's gonna be a close game.
I think beyond Robertson, the running back of Atlanta may
be the difference. He'll be the different spec of them.
Because Atlanta gains the lead, they give them the ball,
they were out of the clock.

Speaker 4 (01:02:47):
Yeah, I mean, that'd be the thing. The thing about
Russell Wilson status is undecided right now, and it's undecided
because of like the calf injury and those things. They
haven't said that he's going to play and You kind
of want to think that he's going to be out,
but you never know. But regardless, this offense has to
be one that is physical. They got to run the football.

(01:03:07):
The line has to control it, and then they got
to make the plays that are available on the perimeter.
If they do that, they have an opportunity. But this
is a defensive lad team, not an offensive lead team.
The offense has to compliment what they want to do defensively.

Speaker 2 (01:03:19):
You like Atlanta in this game and a close one?

Speaker 4 (01:03:21):
Yeah, I like Atlanta. I think Atlanta wins this one.

Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
I do too, I really do. Let's look at the
Cardinals Bills for a second right now. A big year
for the Bills. I mean, can Josh Allen get it done?
That's the thing right now. But the problem here is
that Cardinals. They were fourth in new odds and second
in newyards per tent a year ago. Now they got
their running back Tray Benson there, and I think everybody's
gonna have their eyes on their wide receiver in the draft,
Marvin Harrison. So honestly, I think that Bills get it done.

(01:03:46):
The game is in Buffalo, with that army of fans
over there, I think that's a big difference of great
home advantage right now. But I think Arizona's going to
give them the game. I really do.

Speaker 4 (01:03:57):
Yeah. Now, Arizona's going to be competitive. They were competitive
last ye. I think surprisingly people were surprised how competitive
they were. But I expect them to be just be
a feisty game, a competitive game, and one that goes
into the fourth quarter. But the Buffalo Bills, if Josh
Allen is what we think he's gonna be, they gotta
figure out way to do it, get it done.

Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
Yeah, and the big matchup's gonna be I think Marvin
Harrison right now, the number four pick in the draft
last year, He's going to be a megastar in the league.
There's no doubt about that. But can the cornerbacks of
the Buffalo Bills stay with this guy? And look, honestly,
I think Game one is a big test for many teams.
Why is that because there's no film? I mean, you
don't know about much in scouting. I mean, how does

(01:04:36):
the defensive coordinator really study a team coming into a
game today when there's no film to study? That's the key.
You're just blindsided the times.

Speaker 4 (01:04:48):
Yes, minor. So what you do is you have a
very generic game plan, and you tell the team, hey,
to take us about a quarter to figure out what
they're really doing, and then we'll make some adjustments. And
that you try and dig down into the history and
look at everything they do, previous spot stops and those
things and put it together. But you don't know, and
so you want to play as basic and as simple
as you can early until the game kind of settles in,

(01:05:10):
and then you make the adjustments and go forward. You know,
you gotta be a pro. You got to figure out
how to get it done. But yeah, it's a challenge
when you don't have film on an opponent.

Speaker 2 (01:05:18):
Who do you like in this one? I'm gonna go
with the Bills, but I think it's gonna be a struggle.
But I think the Bills win this one. I think
they they may win by a touchdown, maybe a touchdown one.
They might win by a touchdown on the field about ten.
I've taken the Bills by ten, but it's going to
be a struggle for.

Speaker 4 (01:05:32):
Buffalo Man by tim that's a big old margin. That's
almost like a little.

Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
Twenty seven to seventeen at the end. At the end,
when it's basically.

Speaker 4 (01:05:41):
Over, I get it now. I get it. Look, I
like the Bills in this one as well. I'll take him.
I think it's gonna be a close game, a competitive game.
But yeah, let's go to the Bills on that.

Speaker 2 (01:05:49):
All right, sounds great. We continue. He's Bucket Brooks and
Andy Furman. We are Fox Football Sunday on Fox. Buts
right now, all new look. There's a new look for
one NFL team that's next. And there's an old for
Kevin Wyatt with your sports, isn't it.

Speaker 5 (01:06:02):
Yeah, And it might be a new look for the
Pittsburgh Steelers today. At quarterback Ian Rappaport about forty five
minutes ago, saying that the Steelers are expected to examine
Russell Wilson this morning to check out his cap but
as it stands right now, it is more likely that
Justin Fields will be getting the start today against the
Atlanta Falcons. And Rappaport had a few more updates overnight.

(01:06:25):
Wide receiver Tyler Lockett he's listened as questionable for the
Seahawks with a thigh injury. He is expected to be
on the field today. Dolphins corner Jalen Ramsey he is
going to try to play today. He's listened as questionable
with a hamstring injury. He's not going to be at
full strength, however, and will be on a limited pitch count.
Lions offensive tackle Dj Reader he's attempting to return from

(01:06:48):
a significant quad injury, however, he is not ready not
quite ready to return to play today. Next week is
seen as a more realistic timeline for the Chicago Bears.
Keenan Allen and Montes Sweat that both listened to this
questionable are expected to play today. Adam Schefter with an
update last night. Patriots running back Antonio Gibson is planning

(01:07:11):
to play today against the Bengals. He's questionable with a
hip injury, and Christian mccaffery's saying he will be playing
on Monday. He's been dealing with a calf inch calf
issue that had him limited in practice on Friday, and
ESPN saying that the forty nine ers are eyeing a
full workload Monday for Trent Williams, however, and keep an

(01:07:34):
eye on this. Fantasy owners reduced snaps for wide receiver
Brandon i You and for Jordan Love. It wasn't as
bad as feared. He tweaked his leg in the fourth
quarter was six seconds ago in their game in Brazil
against the Eagles on Friday, and it appears to be
just an mcl Spring will be out three to six weeks,

(01:07:54):
but many were fearing a potentially season ending injury, so
that's good news for the Green Bay Packers. As for
college football, the episode of the day in South Bend,
Northern Illinois taking down number five Notre Dame sixteen to
fourteen as the Husky's blocking Notre dames go ahead field
goal attempt as time expired. Number three Texas a winner

(01:08:15):
at number ten Michigan thirty one to twelve quin Yours
with three touchdown passes. Number seven Oregon, for the second
week in a row, had to fight to get by
a team they were favored against. They get a walk
off field goal to beat Boise State thirty seven thirty four,
and number eight Penn State needed to come back, but
they do beat Bowling Green thirty four to twenty seven.
Back to you guys, all.

Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
Right, ket thanks so much. No offense means no win.
We'll get to that in just about a minute. He's
Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy Fermoweel Fox Football Sunday on Fox
Sports Radio we got bottom barrel betting at about five
six minutes from now. All right, let's go here. Dick
from Dayton. Dick is listed on WNE and Dayton, Ohio. Dick,
how are you? You're on with Bucky Brooks?

Speaker 8 (01:08:56):
Hey? Andy? How are you being?

Speaker 5 (01:08:58):
Hi?

Speaker 10 (01:08:58):
Ah?

Speaker 8 (01:08:58):
Hi, Bucky. It's good to talk to you. I like
going to miss you at seven hundred. As you know,
I call there all the time, but I know you did.
I've just wanted to say something, Mandy. I remember your show.
I loved it. But I want to say about the Bengals.
I think it's going to be up to Joe Burrow.
I think they can do it, but if he doesn't produce,

(01:09:21):
we're you know. I think they can do it, but
I'm like you. Without Chase, it's going to be kind
of rough. And they don't have Higgins anymore.

Speaker 2 (01:09:30):
You know what I mean, it'd be tough. Gotta be tough.

Speaker 4 (01:09:32):
Dick.

Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
Enjoy the game. Love hearing your voice. Have a great day, Dick.
Thanks for calling on w oh Ady of Dayton. There
you go, all right, bye bye? Now all right, now,
let's go back to this Titans Bears game. Right now,
A different Titan look right, now because you have no
Derek Henry. So what does that mean? In my mind,
it means that that quarterback Will Levice is going to
be doing were passing and he's got de Andre Hopkins
and Calvin Ridley. Can he get it done? You know,

(01:09:55):
I don't think they're going to beat the Bears. I
just don't think they will. I don't have a lot
of confidence in Will Levis. And you know, it's just
a whole completely different offense right now with that ball club.
It really is.

Speaker 4 (01:10:09):
Yeah, I mean it's a different it's a different thing.
They try to upgrade the personnel around them. They have
put guys in places, Calvin Ridley to team up with
DeAndre Hopkins. They bring in Tony Pollard to give them
explosive option out the backfield. So they have some players
in place. As a matter of what can they do
to get this team going? Early? With Brian Callahan taken over,

(01:10:32):
I would say pay close attention to the line play.
Brian's dad, Bill comes over, is the offensive line coach extraordinary,
does a really good job with the run game and
really uplifting the unit. And so you just can't count
them out. They're gonna run the football They may run
it in a different fashion than they did with Derrick Henry,
but I look for this team to throw it around
a little bit. They try and play to the strengths

(01:10:54):
of the quarterback and try and see if they can
elevate this quarterback to franchise status.

Speaker 2 (01:10:57):
Yeah. I think all lies obviously, Caleb Williams. The game
is in Chicago's to be. The fans will be foaming
from the mouth today. So I like the Bears. I
like the Bears in a close one, and I think
right now with the good secondary, Chicago's got a pretty
good secondary. So in fact that Tennessee goes past heavy,
I think Chicago'll be ready for that. I think the
Bears winning a closer win by a field goal. I

(01:11:18):
think Chicago Bears in that one.

Speaker 4 (01:11:19):
Oh, I like you, Okay. I think the thing about
the Bears is don't expect big numbers from Kayler Williams.
Everyone thinks that they're gonna just come and it's gonna
be a video game. Kayler Williams and the Bears looked
for them to be a little more conservative, to get
the young guy untracked with confidence early and lean on
this defense. His defense has chanced to be really good.

Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
All right, We move on now, as we talked about
a little bit, the Patriots at the Bengals today. Got
a new coach, girod Mayo, but he knows the system.
He played for Bill Belichick, so he's a part of
the family. They got a quarterback was a veteran now
Jacobi Brissett, but he's got to get rid of that
ball quick. He really does have a weak offensive line
in New England and now have a pass rush. They'll

(01:11:57):
be feasting. I think the Bengals defensive line will be
feasting on Jacobe Prisett today, So we'll see what happens
right now. But again, without Jamar Chase, without t Higgins
kind of makes the game a little more even. Right now,
I think the Bengals win it, But without Chasing and Higgins,
I think it'll be a lot closer than people think.

Speaker 4 (01:12:15):
Yeah, like a field goal at the end to win
it displays into the Patriots hands. If Chase and Higgins
aren't there, it's gonna be really, really difficult. Love Jermaine Burton,
though one of my favorite rookies in terms of the
class third round pick, has given them juice average nineteen
point six yards per catch during the preseason. He's a
big play waiting to happen. He may have to grow

(01:12:37):
up sooner than expected and become a big time player
for him right away.

Speaker 2 (01:12:42):
I think Trey Hendrickson of the Bengals will have a
big day today. They have a couple of sacks, so
I think he'll have a biggie today. I think the
key to this game right now is the week offensive line.
So how quick Kobe Perset get rid of the ball.
That's the key right there. If he gets rid of
the ball and without them touching him, the Bengals touching him,
I think this could be a game. But I just
don't see. I don't think that the personnel in New

(01:13:04):
England's as good as the personnel in Cincinnati.

Speaker 4 (01:13:08):
No, it's not top top. So then in these situations,
if it's it comes down to it where Cincinnati is
better personnel wise, even despite missing the stars. Can they
make fewer mistakes, meaning not give the ball away. If
they don't give the ball away, they don't have silly penalties,
they don't mess up in the kicking game, then they
should be able to win. So it's can they take

(01:13:29):
a mature approach to get this team out of here.
That's what this Bengals have to do.

Speaker 2 (01:13:34):
Yeah, and what a confidence builder would it be if,
in fact, the Bengals win their game at home opening
day without Chase and Higgins Because traditionally this Cincinnati Bengals
team is a slow starting team. Would it seem like
three and five last year when they started the season.

Speaker 4 (01:13:50):
Yeah, no, it's yeah, it'd be different. You know, like
these slow starts can come back to get you. So
you want to make sure that you get it going,
you get it popping right out the gate, and you
try I find a way to win. Because the first
month of the season people dismiss as oh teams trying
to figure it out, but the teams that shoot out
quickly are the ones that end up making the postseason.

Speaker 2 (01:14:08):

Speaker 4 (01:15:21):
Thank you so.

Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
Much, thank you for being with us. And this is
day one. We stopped from scratch.

Speaker 11 (01:15:26):
Yes, and guess what. Guess who is starting off strong
and starting off in scratch or whatever you just said.

Speaker 4 (01:15:33):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:15:33):
Guess what.

Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
Guess who who? Who? You?

Speaker 11 (01:15:37):
You won three to two?

Speaker 2 (01:15:40):
But that's just I want three to two last week. Yes,
I'm coming on. I think I want two or the
last three weeks. Bucky, beware, it's not that funny. Why
are they laughing?

Speaker 4 (01:15:49):
I don't think it's start is the start there? So
that was pre season, that was pre season. It's pre
season's free season, right.

Speaker 2 (01:15:58):
All right, let's get it going. Come on, let's do.

Speaker 11 (01:16:00):
It all right, So we're gonna start off kind of basics.
So UFC three oh six Luis Rodriguez minus one seventy
versus Ode Osborne, and I'm gonna start with Bucky.

Speaker 5 (01:16:10):
Go ahead, Bucky.

Speaker 4 (01:16:12):
Oh, let's do with Osborne. Yeah, I don't know why.
Let's go with Osborne.

Speaker 2 (01:16:19):
No, you can't. You gotta go with the Jeans. Lewis
Rodriguez has to be related to Alex some way, somehow,
So I'm going with Lewis. Really, you gotta go with thereright,
you gotta go with the names, the jeens. That's what
it's all about.

Speaker 11 (01:16:31):
Really, that's not racist at all, Absolutely not not racist.

Speaker 2 (01:16:34):
No, that's not no. Wait, I'm gonna smack you from
handing Tim Buck two. There's nothing to do with race.
I mean, if someone's last name was Brooks, I'm going
with Brooks because you got the jeans.

Speaker 4 (01:16:45):
Okay, you.

Speaker 2 (01:16:48):
Really are?

Speaker 5 (01:16:49):
Okay.

Speaker 11 (01:16:49):
We're gonna head over to the World of Darts, you guys,
it's the it's the PDC World Series. We got Dimitri
Vanderberg versus Chris Dobie.

Speaker 5 (01:17:00):
Any who do you got?

Speaker 2 (01:17:01):
I got Vanderburgh because it was a Vanderburgh was a
great trainer in horse racing. So Vanderburgh again, the jeans.
You go with the athlete, you go with the jeans.
Really geez?

Speaker 4 (01:17:11):
Okay, so I guess the lad The other guy was Adobe, Yeah,
all right, Aobe, I got him.

Speaker 2 (01:17:17):
I'm pretty gone with Larry Adobe too. First African American
in the American League. Larry Adobe.

Speaker 11 (01:17:21):
Well you didn't, so off to the next one. We're
gonna head over to tennis. We have Max wiz Cant
versus Patrick Brady.

Speaker 4 (01:17:31):
But can't go wrong with a Brady.

Speaker 5 (01:17:35):
Yeah, you can't steal my tongue with Brady.

Speaker 4 (01:17:39):
You can't go wrong with a Brady. I'm gonna I'm
gonna take.

Speaker 2 (01:17:41):
Him the Brady bunch. You know what, though, I'm gonna
do something I've never done before. In this game. I'm
going with Brady. You gotta go with Brady. I mean,
come on, I got to relate it to Tom Well.
The Brady bunch got to I'm going with Brady and
I've never gone with Bucky the same one, but I'm
doing it this time. It's not funny, Pully, don't let it.
I can't handle it.

Speaker 5 (01:18:01):
Slop it.

Speaker 11 (01:18:01):
Oh my gosh, gets some bigger skin. Everything's fine.

Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
This is a big deal for Macy. Bucky's been to
the Pinnacle, He's been to the NFL. This is the
big competition in my life. This is in for me. Really,
There's been nothing else.

Speaker 11 (01:18:14):
If you're just we just.

Speaker 2 (01:18:15):
You understand how big this is to be. After this
game is over, I take a shower. That's how excited
I get for this game.

Speaker 5 (01:18:21):
Really.

Speaker 11 (01:18:21):
Oh wow, tmi tm I alrighty, we're gonna go to
the County Championship. In cricket, we got Essex versus nottingham Shire.

Speaker 2 (01:18:31):
Andy, I'm going with Nottinghamshire. Why two names? I mean,
it is twice as good. They must have a bigger
pool of players, so go for nottingham slash Shire.

Speaker 4 (01:18:40):
Okay, okay, I'm going with Essex.

Speaker 5 (01:18:43):
I like him.

Speaker 4 (01:18:44):
You picked it for me.

Speaker 11 (01:18:46):
There we go, and then we're gonna end off in
East Sports counter Strike Dash United twenty one.

Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
What is that?

Speaker 4 (01:18:53):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
Es sports?

Speaker 4 (01:18:54):
Okay?

Speaker 11 (01:18:54):
Yeah, yeah, esports so like like video games or whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:18:57):
I don't play. I don't play.

Speaker 11 (01:18:58):
Why there's so much fun? It's good for your hand
eye coordination. No, no, not at all, but I can
imagine it'd be good. But Verdant at plus one twenty
five versus a Podgy at minus one sixty five, Bucky way.

Speaker 2 (01:19:12):
Time out before we get started, Buckey. Have you heard
of any one of these? I just I need to know,
because if you do, I'm quitting.

Speaker 4 (01:19:20):
Ever heard of any any one of what.

Speaker 2 (01:19:22):
Like the the two possibilities of today, the apogy and
the other one.

Speaker 4 (01:19:27):
No, I haven't heard. I haven't heard good, good, good.
But I've heard of these.

Speaker 2 (01:19:31):
Okay, I know I've heard of the sports. Yeah, I
mean colleges think of scholarships for that.

Speaker 4 (01:19:35):
Now they do. Yeah, you can play. You should try.
You should try it. It's never too.

Speaker 2 (01:19:40):
Late, you know, it's not a bad idea. Really, I
get a letter, I could finally get a letter. I
could be somebody, All right, go ahead, I'm sorry, go ahead.

Speaker 4 (01:19:47):
What about choices of the game?

Speaker 11 (01:19:48):
Breer Verdiant at plus one twenty five versus a podgy
at minus one sixty five.

Speaker 4 (01:19:54):
Okay, let's go with Verdant.

Speaker 5 (01:19:55):
There we go.

Speaker 2 (01:19:57):
I'm gonna go with a podget kind of like an apology,
you know, I'm saying that you owe me.

Speaker 11 (01:20:01):
That's exactly what I apology.

Speaker 2 (01:20:04):
I'm sorry, apogi.

Speaker 11 (01:20:05):
Right, well, thank you guys, Best of luck to both
of you.

Speaker 2 (01:20:08):
Thank you very much. How do you like? I mean,
we're nervous to win. This is good. You did a
good job. Proud of you, Thank you, Thank you. Swollen
don't coming in next? Right here on Fox.

Speaker 1 (01:20:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 5 (01:20:24):

way tire buying should be. It's a beautiful Fox Football Sunday.
I'm by karming alongside two legends, my guys, Andy Furman
and Bucky Brooks. You heard them. They started waxing poetically

(01:21:06):
over the slate of college game starting to get into
the NFL schedule. As it were, Gentlemen, you gotta be
working up a nice big lather after doing some questions
about video games and breed testing your pop culture knowledge? Andy,
how you feeling.

Speaker 2 (01:21:21):
Talk about John Legend? As we're told her about the
John Legend. She likes, She loves John Legend.

Speaker 5 (01:21:27):
Brie, would you like to counter?

Speaker 11 (01:21:28):
I asked if he liked John Legend versus John von
Joony Okay versus John Legend? And he chose John Legend,
And I just couldn't help myself. I was shocked by
the answer.

Speaker 5 (01:21:42):
Shocked.

Speaker 2 (01:21:43):
I just don't think that one has to be intimidated
by the people you work with, because I have a
different take on a favorite in the music business. And
now all of a sudden, I'm I'm hated. I mean,
I can't continue, I can't get the words in it anymore.
I'm not gonna answer any questions she asked me.

Speaker 5 (01:22:02):
In the future, I'm gonna start playing under Attack by
Abba underneath the way as you're talking here, I think
it was just more you said John Legend. Okay, cool, right,
but why I mean you gotta you want to do
a little slow jam. You like the slow piano? Like,
what are we talking?

Speaker 2 (01:22:18):
That's it, she asked me. I like John Legend as
the end that I never should have said anything. You
know what I should have said? Who is he?

Speaker 5 (01:22:24):
I should have never heard of it? That's what I
should have said, Buddy, Bucky. Andy's having himself the moment here.
I'm foaming at the mouth.

Speaker 4 (01:22:32):
Here he is, He's foaming at the mouth. He's frothy.
He felt like he was up to date with his
pop culture reference and re shout it down quickly.

Speaker 5 (01:22:41):
She should see there it is. That's the way a
Fox Football Sunday starts. So what we do here, Mark
Ramsey on the ones and twos, our technical producer. You
got Kevin wired at the update desk is information on
injury starts to flow and gentlemen. Two games in the
books thus far in the National Football League. We'll get
to the full sleigh a little bit. But because it
is a beautiful Sunday morning, and we're all about positivity, right,

(01:23:04):
We're looking forward to great games, and we had some
big moments yesterday. Look, there's a lot of ugly that
came on the sidelines and heading to tunnels and everything yesterday.
But I wanted to bring us back to the Northern
Illinois win over Notre Dame. I don't know if you
guys heard this one yet, but Coach Hammock in the
postgame interview on the sideline got emotional. It started to

(01:23:26):
make the rounds, and because we're about positivity and uplifting,
this is about as good an audio as you're gonna hear.

Speaker 10 (01:23:32):
I'm so caroled about kids, the coaches, so everybody.

Speaker 5 (01:23:37):
They believe, they believe.

Speaker 10 (01:23:42):
We came here.

Speaker 5 (01:23:42):
I got it done.

Speaker 9 (01:23:44):
You told your guys this week that you didn't need
anyone to be a superhero or superhuman. They just needed
to be their best. What kind of performances did you
see out there?

Speaker 10 (01:23:58):
They listened to what I said. That's all them all week.
We don't need luck. We just gotta be our best.
And I was the best today and we were able
to get it down.

Speaker 5 (01:24:09):
All right there it is. We cut it off at
thirty seven seconds. It goes on for another couple of minutes.
They got paid one point four million to come in Wow,
to beat a top five squad. So, I mean, there's
the positivity right minutes more minutes. This is his alma mata.
He is back and he rallied them talking about the
positivity of the week. That was guys. But we work

(01:24:30):
in sports talk radio and you know, with some video
attachment to it, which means I gotta go to the
other side. So is that the end of Notre Dame
for the year? Bucky Brooks?

Speaker 4 (01:24:41):
No, that's not the end. I mean it's a it's
a big hiccup though doesn't look great, big hitcup. But
they were ripe for this one because they just had
an emotional win against Texas A and M. So you
knew that they were going to be kind of emotionally
tapped out, and it showed they just weren't able to
kind of match that in and emotion and before you

(01:25:01):
know it, you get into a dog fight and you
just don't have enough gas to be able to pull
it off.

Speaker 5 (01:25:06):
Andy, I know you love the way Bucky Brooks is
so positive.

Speaker 2 (01:25:11):
I want to throw up. That's how positive you are. Wow,
I love it. I love it the death. It is
the Unfoja day. They're finished. You lose to a MAC team.
Couple that with A they're not in the conference and
B to have a soft schedule. They're finished. They're not
going to it. I don't care if they expand the
playoffs the twelve teams. They're not going anywhere. This game
yesterday put the dagger in their season. Sorry, you know,

(01:25:33):
sorry Foranja Day fans. That's just the way it is,
and they deserve to be kicked a little bit because
you don't lose to a MAC team. You just don't
do it. You give them one point five million. Why
you're buying yourself a win and I couldn't buy the win.
Sixteen fourteen final, Go ahead, Bucky.

Speaker 4 (01:25:50):
It's a disappointing day for sure. But here's what we
do now. The College Football Playoff is more than just
a football tournament. It is a TV show man, and
I know that the brand is big. It's the same
reason why we typically lead every TV show with the
Dallas Cowboys. Notre Dame is in the same vein. So
if it's close, the tie is going to the fight

(01:26:11):
in Irish and so that's why I refuse to say
that they won't be in. If they win and do
what they're supposed to be including knocking off at se team.
At the end of the year, they will absolutely be
the twelfth team to get into the playoff because it's
Notre Dame.

Speaker 5 (01:26:24):
Well that's as we said. Yeah, Well, as we sit
with the schedule, they still have four more ranked teams
on the slate. Remember Florida State's no longer a rank
squad for that November date. But usc impressive win and
we take from it what we can. Right, you beat
who's in front of you and if you can get

(01:26:44):
some style points by running up. Do you guys realize
that was their first shoutout to twenty eleven.

Speaker 2 (01:26:50):
Look, I'm gonna say one thing. I'll say it right now.
You could say all you want, and you're right. You
missed a positivity and I'm the devil. I know I am.
But as long as you got Riley Leonard on the
center winning, they're not gonna win with that guy. He
had problems last week at A and M and he
was terrible yesterday. Riley Leonard will not take note you
day into the playoffs. I'm Sorry.

Speaker 4 (01:27:11):
Look, hey, I'm not disputing that Riley Leonard is Joe Montana,
you know. I'm just saying that they are a brand
that if they finished with a nine to two record
ten and two, they gonna find their way into the thing.
So I'm saying they have another loss that they can
have and still get into the mix. They're talking about
teams having potentially three losses getting into the thing, So

(01:27:33):
I can absolutely see a path for Notre Dame to
get there. And look, I'll never fight for Riley rd.
Leonard is a duchie, so he started and so he's
always he's always a due guy, so I don't have
any issue with him. But yeah, I just think they
can sneak in. There's enough softness in their schedule where
they can reel off wins that will look at me
and like, hey, Notre Dame is nine and one. You know,

(01:27:54):
here comes to Irish. That's what we do.

Speaker 2 (01:27:57):
Yes, I hear what you say, And you know what,
you make a great point with the TV. Why Why
do I say that? Because last night Colorado was on
against Nebraska, two unranked teams, but the TV interest with
Dion and Colorado puts them on prime time on Saturday
night a national team.

Speaker 5 (01:28:12):
I will tell you this, I saw a sign in
the crowd that they went to a couple of times.
They were my sleeper to make the playoffs. And you
look at the corn Huskers. All of a sudden, there's
some toughness back and Matt Rule has him going, and
Roola looks like a guy, you know, hang a star.
I mean it's Colorado. We know there's thin offensive and

(01:28:32):
defensive lines, and let's face it, attrition the targeting guy you
beat who's on the schedule, and you go and you
do it so resoundingly, even if it only ends up
twenty eight ten, that game played like a forty nine
to ten game.

Speaker 4 (01:28:46):
Yeah, it felt like the old Nebraska teams when Nebraska
would absolutely suffocate folks with their defense. And there's a
generation of people who don't even realize how good Nebraska was.
This was a thirty year celebration of one of their
championship teams that went back to back. Only more of
that because a friend of mine was going. He went,

(01:29:06):
and this generation of folks that don't remember Nebraska being
really good, and so this is kind of bringing them back.
Matt Ruler is playing to that and with that quarterback,
who I will say is Nebraska's version of Kobe, meaning
I've never seen someone steal somebody's style as closely as
Kobe stole Michael Jordan, as Dylan Reyola has stolen Pat

(01:29:29):
Mahomes just.

Speaker 5 (01:29:29):
Went right, walks like him, like him.

Speaker 4 (01:29:33):
Yeah, I mean, he just like all of it, Like
he has all of those same traits, just like Kobe
did with Jordan. The mennerisms have become his own, and
so it's interesting to see. But he's a good player
and they've been able to do it without him having
to kind of be the lead horse, dangerous squad. You're right,
Nebraska dangerous. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:29:54):
I want to be curious to see if they can
live up to the the billboard a little signage that
one woman was carrying saying, so this is the Huskers
team my dad kept telling me about. Yeah, yeah, I
mean I must have seen that signed out there three
four times over the course of the games, like a yeah,
let's circle back to them, because it's shades of what

(01:30:14):
we had. Obviously, the order of the day is the
National Football League, Gentlemen. We'll get into some of the
games in earnest as we flow, but big takeaways out
of the first two. I mean, we have to look
squarely at Green Bay and what happens now Jordan Love,
a couple of weeks on the shelf, seems to have
averted and avoided the catastrophic and to a season injury.

(01:30:39):
But you know, we're on air as it happened, and
you see the slow mode. We have no audio with us,
and we're like, oh, there goes the knee right there,
it goes to the side. And I started immediately thinking
of why Jordan Love was drafted when he was. And
I've argued this for years, and I think I've been
on an island by myself. Is remember the year, Brett,
I'm taking too far back in the way back machine,

(01:31:01):
when Rogers got hurt and was lost for the year.
They had a really good roster, they got out to
a great start and then sorry, Brent Hunley, you get
thrown under the bus here. He had to be the
guy to try to carry it, and it went off
the rails quickly, and what looked like a promising year
with a great looking squad went off the rails. Now
we look at Malik Willis and Sean Clifford and I

(01:31:22):
look I don't want to be too negative here again
Sunday positivity. But Malik Willis had one job throw a
hail Mary and he took a sack. So Bucky, what
did they do?

Speaker 4 (01:31:37):
I mean they're in trouble certainly. I mean because so
much was built up around like Jordan Love and Malik Willis,
which isn't fair to him. Malik Willis beasts out Sean
Clifford for the last spot at quarterback, and he's been
there a week, so you now have to get him
ready to do it. I will say this, they're saving grace.

(01:31:58):
They invested in the running game. Josh Acob's coming on.
I look like they discovered a backup kid who really
gave them some juice. They have a really good offensive line,
and they got enough Playmak because that can do some
things on the perimeter. They can win with the running
game defensively. I'm glad Jerry Alexander showed up after kind
of being a wall for like a year and some change.
He now is back and looks like he's playing at

(01:32:19):
a high level. So it may be a different style.
They may want to go into the vault in the
Packers Hall of Fame and see if they can pull
Vince Lombardi's old playbook out, see if they can run
the football a little bit. But they still should be good.
This is a really good roster. They should be able
to weather the storm for a few weeks until Jordan
Love comes back.

Speaker 2 (01:32:37):
You know, I'm going to say something right now. If
I'm a green Bay Packer fan, I'm not worried. I'm
fairly confident. I'll tell you why, because I don't think
Green Bay lost that game for any other reason than
because of Jordan Love. Let me tell you why. The
average almost seven yards of play. They had four hundred
and fourteen yards of offense. Okay, but thanks to Jordan Love,

(01:32:57):
they only went one for four in the red zone.
All right, Thanks to Jordan Love. He was four to
nine for twenty four yards in the red zone with
only one touchdown. He missed a couple of throws that
cost the Packers points. The Packers are three of eleven
on third down. This is all Jordan Love. If they
got a quarterback and could just function without making mistakes,
give the ball, run the ball, run out the clock.

(01:33:17):
They got a running game right now. Fortune fourteen yards
of offense and I lose they had no points there.
It's ridiculous. I like Sean Clifford kid went to Penn State,
he went to Saint Xavier High School in Cincinnati. I
want to see Shan Clifford play, but I think Sean
Clifford won't make the turnoffs. Just be a quarterback that
could hand the ball off and do what you gotta
do and they'll be fine. Jordan Love right now was

(01:33:38):
not the Jordan Love we saw the last half of
last season.

Speaker 5 (01:33:41):
Wow six to favorite for MVP jumping into the year,
fellas at fourteen to one, and Andy buried him because
he wanted to get the Cincinnati kid in.

Speaker 2 (01:33:50):
He wants to yes, Sean Clifford.

Speaker 4 (01:33:52):
He wants he wants to get the local hero in
the Penn State legend, Sean Clifford.

Speaker 2 (01:33:57):
I'll have the last laugh.

Speaker 5 (01:34:00):
I dig that. I mean, I would point out though
that Josh Jacobs was absolutely invisible in the first half
plus and had a couple of big runs. Look, they
all count just the same in the box score for
his sixteen and eighty plus, but the run game didn't
exactly get going to give them much benefit at all.
I mean it was better than Colorado's, but that ain't

(01:34:20):
saying much.

Speaker 4 (01:34:22):
No, that's not saying much.

Speaker 5 (01:34:23):
It all all right, let me still go back to
that real quick, the two minute drill for both of
you guys. Shader Sanders heading back to the locker room
with two minutes plus left on the clock. What say you,
Andy Furman, Well.

Speaker 2 (01:34:36):
What are you gonna do? I mean, he probably couldn't
even walk. I mean it was sacks seven times? What
do you want? I mean, really it was. It was
a sad situation watching them play. You watched when they
had the camera on Digona the sidelines. I felt sorry
for the guy, I really did. I mean it was
like a bullfight with the arena that ninety thousand people
looking for blood, and they got their blood last night.

(01:34:58):
They'll Colorado will be fun. They'll be back.

Speaker 4 (01:35:00):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:35:00):
You see Travis Hunter on the sidelines yelling of his teammates,
the passion that he had. You know, it happens. You know,
they had a down flat of bad games. Nebraska came
to play, and yes they look like the Nebraska ball
Will they continue? I don't know. Matt Rule has done
a great job rebuilding that ball club, so we'll see
what happens. You know, one game doesn't make a season.
I know that.

Speaker 4 (01:35:20):
Oh, okay, athadet, No, I'm finished to make sure I'm
a thing on saying this guy I'd like to see
him in a post season game. No, I make sure
I would say this, like, because they're a bit of
a rock band. I can see getting Shader Sanders off
the field, particularly if you felt or since then Nebraska
is about to rush to field. He is a polarizing

(01:35:40):
player just because of some of the antics and some
of the bravado and swagging kakiness. Yeah, if you know
he's already hurt, he may be dealing with a concussion.
The last thing you want him is jostled around in
a crowd. Walk off, get him out of there, get forward,
go to next week or.

Speaker 5 (01:35:55):
Whatever, see the next week, next game. Hopefully they respond,
it was one of the best shows we had last
September thus far. It's one that a lot of handwringing,
and certainly the Wolves are at the door for Dion
and that program because I mean, you.

Speaker 2 (01:36:10):
Remember, excuse me through but remember last year Dion really
caused a stink in this ball and when they played
in Nebraska. He says, this game means something he wanted
to get him. He was rather quiet this year, and
I think Nebraska used that motivation from a year ago
to kind of feed off that, and they did last night.

Speaker 5 (01:36:26):
Well after their Week one escape. I don't know how
much you wanted to talk this one up, right, You're
right right. Let the play do the talking if it did,
and it didn't, so you know, just let sleeping dogs lie, right,
or at least that's that would be my estimation of
what they did for this week. But more of that

(01:36:47):
to come, and we got a full sleight of NFL
games ahead. We'll get through a number of them before
the hour is up. Andy Furman at Andy Furman FSR.

a huge slate today, a number of rookies making big debuts.
And I'm wearing a Gail Sayers jersey in the studio today.

(01:38:45):
And I've got a mini shrine to bearsdom that I
put out on Twitter at Swollen Dome with a Buckis
Maestro of Mayhem comic book kind of cover thing going
on in the ever present Ditka bobblehead that follows me
wherever I go because Caleb Williams has been tabbed the Savior.
I don't know if you guys missed that storyline of

(01:39:05):
the offseason or not.

Speaker 4 (01:39:08):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, he is the savior.

Speaker 5 (01:39:11):
Yeah well yeah, although you know, as we talked about
a little bit Bucky and Andy, this is one that
I think you'll enjoy the power of perception and narrative.
We're waiting to see whether Russell Wilson gets to be
cleared to play later today, right He and former Bears
quarterback Justin Fields. These Steelers and the Bears have the
same over under for wins on the season from the

(01:39:33):
betting odds at eight and a half. Wouldn't know that
from the narratives being thrown about this preseason, but that's
why they play the games. As we get rolling too
in the books, both go to the over Kansas City
with the fun and exciting win over Lamar Jackson likely

(01:39:53):
in company. And then obviously we talked about Philly and
Green Bay a little bit before. So why don't we
get back into the slate, grab a couple of games
and see what we can pull off.

Speaker 2 (01:40:02):
Cowboys said, bro oh, there, we go.

Speaker 5 (01:40:04):
Right to it. The debut of Tom Brady in the booth.
Can't wait to see what he's got to say it
because well, Dak Prescott still making the rounds doing interviews
talking about his contract. It's not a big deal. Every
time you sit down and say it's not a big deal,
I don't believe you. Jerry Jones becoming more terse along
the way for Cleveland. You've got the question to Shaun Watson,

(01:40:28):
the injuries, the history, the inn well, the inability to
stay on the field of late and now dealing with
some personal issues the death of his father. So best
to he and his family as they deal with that.
But on the eve of the opener here, Cleveland first
in yards allowed a year to year ago, just giving
up two hundred and seventy a game, a fewer than

(01:40:49):
one hundred and sixty five passing yards per game. Schwartz
and that defense getting after it for the Cowboys. A
lot of it comes down to, all right, ced got
his money, Micah still wants his money, Dak needs his money.
I want to know a who's running the football and
beyond Cede Lamb, who's gonna catch it. Those are my
concerns as we get to this one. Cleveland two and
a half point favorite, forty one, very low total in

(01:41:12):
this one in a big game on Fox. Andy Furman,
what do you think.

Speaker 2 (01:41:16):
We're gonna see something today that's going to quiet a
lot of people because everybody says, well, you know, they
didn't play in the offseason, they had a contract situation,
both officers are both teams. They're gonna come out of
the gates slowly, they think, because Cede Lamb miss most
of the summer and de Saon Watson basically didn't throw
a pass, it won't make a difference, okay, and won't
make a differentiator. The Browns are going to come out
come out strong, although I can question the Nick Chubb

(01:41:37):
again still out with that knee injury. Jerome Ford's gonna
be in the backfield. I don't think there's gonna be
a problem because you know they got they got the
talent and the personnel to beat the Dallas Cowboys, and
they will beat the Dallas Cowboys today. I'm with you
as far as the forty one over under. I think
the Cowboys will will lose this game by a field goal,

(01:41:57):
but it'll be about thirty seven total point total.

Speaker 5 (01:42:01):
There you go. Darron Bland though also out of that
secondary for Dallas.

Speaker 4 (01:42:05):
Bucky Yeah, no, Dron Bland out. The Cowboys have a
lot of missing pieces. Yes, Ceedee Lamb coming back, but
he's been away working out on his own. I worry
about this defense without dan Quinn. Mike Zimmer comes over,
Little frothy, little Salty's get more out of Michael Parsons.
I don't know if he has enough firepower to do
some of the stuff he's done. So I'm gonna go

(01:42:26):
with Cleveland as my sleep. I think Cleveland wins.

Speaker 5 (01:42:29):
But three just remember the last time we saw this
Dallas defensive squad, they got run over by the Green
Bay Packers.

Speaker 2 (01:42:37):
Next, Jaguars at to f.

Speaker 5 (01:42:39):
There we go, we gotta go close to it to
Bucky's hard here Miami three and a half point favorites
at home forty nine and a half the total eight
and three start last year, we know what happened. It
got overshadowed by well, the disaster of the second half
of what went on in Philadelphia. A little bit of
help there for those that like to hear people wax
loquaciously and give you a big highlights. Kevin Harlan on

(01:43:01):
the call for this one, because well, you know, that's
that's exciting and it's gonna feel like one hundred and
two degrees at last report as I saw, you know,
because you start getting into NFL weather because I'm a
nerd that way as I get older. Offense for days
for Miami. But questions defensively, Jalen Ramsey with the hamstring injury,
looks like he's gonna give it the old college try.

(01:43:22):
But can the Miami offensive line hold back that Jags
pass rush Bucky Man?

Speaker 4 (01:43:28):
So this is gonna be tough. So when you think
about that that that passwords, you talk about the Jags
and having to deal with all the speed that they
have on the perimeter is it's not a great matchups.
This great matchup and so you hold that hains Allen,
Tradmon Walker can get to the quarterback. But if twas
Dylan on time, it's gonna be problematic. Right now without

(01:43:48):
seeing them, man, it's hard for me to say that
JAG's gonna be able to slow them down. I think
this becomes a shootout though, and it have to be
one where you gotta get a Rena ball stop and
maybe the Jazz can win in the end. But going
into it, you gotta say the.

Speaker 5 (01:43:59):
Dolphins nine and a half is the total. Andy.

Speaker 2 (01:44:02):
I'm glad you met your Trevon Walker and Heinz Allen
because those guys combined fight twenty seven and a half
combined socks last year. That's the good news for Jacksonville. Butey,
I gotta tell you right now, no, biggie, because two
against the bull out quick. He does get the ball
up quick, and it's going to be a track me
today because you got Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle. If
those guys get hot, they got hot early. Forget it.
Good night, good night, Irene.

Speaker 5 (01:44:23):
Dolphins run away with this one got their three headed
backfield as well.

Speaker 4 (01:44:28):
Run away. That's so disrespectful, Andy.

Speaker 2 (01:44:31):
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Well, I'll be listening to you
on the sidelines. I'll be listening.

Speaker 5 (01:44:35):
Spreads three and a half. I guess I asked this
for fantasy nerds and for just football officionados. Brian Thomas
high expectations. How's he holding up and getting ready for
game one?

Speaker 4 (01:44:46):
Here? Well, he looks good. He should be a big
contributor now from a fantasy standpoint, not a number one,
but a nice item as a flex, someone that can
score some touchdowns or whatever. But the better FLEs may
be Gabe Davis.

Speaker 5 (01:45:00):
Coming over from Buffball. There you go, Gabe Davis. Christian Kirk,
who we've talked about for fantasy purposes going on years.
He's back and healthy. Remember the offense was humming when
he was healthy and available to the Jaguars before he
went down with injury. Let's get another game in before
we talk to Kevin wire. Ram said, Lias, Oh, here
we go, baby over under in this one, gentleman. Fifty

(01:45:22):
two and a half. That's right, Detroit four and a
half point favorites against the ram. A lot of injuries
in that La Rams secondary Tomlinson, Williams Durant looks like
he's gonna play, but he's banged up, and Tredavius White
not sure what kind of snapcount you're gonna get from
him or availability altogether there because he comes off the
Achilles injury. We know the offense loaded for bear there

(01:45:45):
for Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions. Ben Johnson getting
ready to get after it once again. But I got
a question, how about if the Rams have enough depth?
Oh and that Aaron Donald guy, he's gonna be watching
the game like us at home. Andy Furman, kick us off.

Speaker 2 (01:46:01):
You know, here's the deal. You know you got to
back up left tackle. They're playing for LA. You got
a potential maybe a second stringer right tackle. I feel
for Matthew Stafford today because it could be a long
day for him. So the big day today and he's
probably chomping at the bit right now, is defensive end
Aiden Hutchinson. He's gonna have a big day today for Detroit.
Detroit's gonna win. The game is in Detroit. Lions win

(01:46:21):
this one by double digits, like that Het Strong.

Speaker 5 (01:46:26):
Sunday night football game is gonna run back He's gonna
run for Detroit to LA after this.

Speaker 2 (01:46:33):
That's how much he'll be running today.

Speaker 5 (01:46:34):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (01:46:35):
Okay, I'm thinking that Andy's never really had to play
some weird wager on the NFL game, because like double
digits and sad, he's never had to go through the grind.

Speaker 5 (01:46:43):
You put his golden boot up on his desk. What
do you do?

Speaker 4 (01:46:46):
I mean? I mean, wow, Look, I like the Lions
in this one. I think the Lions win. They knock
off the Rams. Missing Aaron Donald is a huge loss,
and it shows up because this passing game for the
Lions and this off on the line is one of
the best in football. Give me the Lions. I'm gonna
say that they run away from it at the end,
but I'm not quite ready to say that. It's a

(01:47:06):
ten point.

Speaker 5 (01:47:07):
March cover the number. It's a touchdown game. But I like.

Speaker 2 (01:47:12):
But here's the deal. If they do, will you come
back next week Bucky say I apologize you were right?

Speaker 4 (01:47:17):
Would you say that, I'll say that you're right, I'll
say that you thank you.

Speaker 5 (01:47:21):
If there needs to be an apology, but I kind
of did. You're sorry for doubting.

Speaker 2 (01:47:29):
Yeah, we can't do that.

Speaker 5 (01:47:31):
Week two he can't give it up betterly, He's Andy Ferban,
That's Bucky Brooks. I'm my carbon here from the tire
Rack dot Com, Fox Sports Radio Studios. Now, let's get it.
Update from Kevin Wired. Is everything going on in our
sporting universe? Yeah, we got plenty of injury updates for
today's Week one slate of NFL games. He and Rapaport
about an hour ago, saying that the Steelers are expected

(01:47:52):
to examine quarterback Russell Wilson this morning to check out
his calf. However, as it stands right now, it is
more likely it'll be just In Fields getting the nod
today for the Steelers against the Atlanta Falcons. And Rappaport
with a few more updates overnight. Seahawks wide receiver Tyler
Lockett listed as questionable with a thigh injury. He is

(01:48:12):
expected to play today. Dolphins corner Jalen Ramsey he has
a hamstring injury. He will attempt to play today, However,
he is listed as questionable and he will not be
at full strength. He's gonna give it a try, but
he will be on a limited pitch count. Lions offensive
tackle Dj Reader is attempting to come back from a
quad injury, but he is not quite ready to return

(01:48:34):
to play. Next week is considered a more realistic timeline.
And for the Bears Keenan Allen Montes Sweat. Both are
listed as questionable and both expected to be on the
field today. For Chicago, Adam Schefter saying that Patriots running
back Antonio Gibson he's listed as questionable because of a
hip injury. He does plan to play today against the Bengals.

(01:48:57):
In Schefter adding that the forty nine ers eyeing a
full workload Monday for Trent Williams, and right here this
is key for fantasy owners. A reduced snapcount for wide
receiver Brandon i Yuke. Christian McCaffrey, though says he will
play Monday. He's been dealing with a calf injury. He
was limited in practice on Friday. And then the college ranks,

(01:49:20):
we have the upset of the day in South Bend,
Northern Illinois. A field goal in the final minute, then
they blocked the Irishes go ahead field goal attempt, his
time expired to hang on for the sixteen to fourteen victory.
Top ten matchup an Arbor, third ranked Texas takes down
number ten Michigan thirty one to twelve. Number seven Oregon,
the second week in a row. They struggled against a

(01:49:41):
team they were favored against, but last second field goal
lifts them over Boise State thirty seven to thirty four.
Number eight Penn State had to come back, but they
do beat Bowling Green thirty four to twenty seven. Back
to you guys, thanks so much, Kevin, appreciate you. Kevin
Wirt at the news desk. We got Brianna making us
sound so pretty alongside with Mark on the board there.
We appreciate y'all being part of our extended family. Here

(01:50:03):
Fox Sports Radio Mike Carmen alongside Andy Ferman, Bucky Brooks.

Speaker 2 (01:50:06):
Let's got one more game in Texan, said Colts.

Speaker 5 (01:50:08):
Oh, there we go in the little AFC South Battle. CJ.
Stroud and company jumped up and bit people a year
year ago, lying in the weeds, not so much now
front and center. A lot of high expectations, three point
favorites on the road, forty nine the total. As you
can see, a lot of big point totals in here.
We've got great games of contrast. Because we'll get to

(01:50:30):
the Jets and the forty nine ers. Because it's down
in those low forties again. But as we look at
this one, Houston five and twenty one all time at Indy,
anybody want to jump on that one? Go back to
the Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck, et cetera, going all
the way through their histories. Houston adding some help on
the defensive side of the ball. For Indianapolis, A lot

(01:50:51):
of it comes down to Anthony Richardson coming back as
the number one completed less than sixty percent of his
passes a year ago before going down with injury. Josh
Downs is not going to be available the number two
wide receiver, so it's Pittman Junior and we'll see how
the rest of the receiving course shakes out. But for Richardson,
I gotta wonder if he watched a little bit of

(01:51:13):
the most boring hard knocks ever where he at least
would have gotten some tips on how to use the
slip and slide Bucky Brooks, how important is that for
the young quarterback to at least get one of those
in their locker early.

Speaker 4 (01:51:24):
Yeah? No, they need to get that and their thing
in the locker early so they kind of understand what
is going on, how to go about it. This is funny, man.
We've been talking about this matchup and everyone has a
lot of affinity for these two teams in the Indianapolis Colts, respectively.
But I just want to put this in there. As
you watch in the game and you see Anthony Richardson
trout out from for the Colts, I want you just

(01:51:46):
to note that he has only started seventeen games since
he left high school. Seventeen games since he left high school.
The guy that we're talking about, the dark horse MVP,
is supposed to be able to do it with seventeen
starts after high school. I'm not a believer, So I'm
gonna go with the Texans. C J. Stroud. To me, CJ.
Straw is the top five quarterback and this team is

(01:52:07):
loaded for bear.

Speaker 5 (01:52:08):
He is the thirteenth favorite for MVP in terms of
odds coming into the season, ahead of such luminaries as
Herbert Stafford, Trevor Lawrence, and Christian McCaffrey. Uh huh, how
about that? So there's one of those random data points
for me, it's how many games do I have him healthy?

(01:52:29):
And I know one of the thoughts for green Bay
people like they should go get Joe Flacco. Indianapolis is
gonna need Joe Flacco. That's why he's there. Like they're
under no delusion that Richardson's going through playing seventeen games.
What nine quarterbacks did that last year? Ten quarterbacks? It's
a very short list. And we saw him, you know,

(01:52:51):
to your point, seventeen games played, still raw and trying
to feel pressure. Read it, and we remember him, you know,
briefly in his collegiate career, same thing, some big highlight
reel kind of moments, but overall still needing some refinement,
no question about it. But there's one that is on
the radar for a lot of folks today, forty nine

(01:53:11):
being the total Andy Any feel on this one?

Speaker 2 (01:53:13):
Yeah, let's go back in the history book for a second.
See what happened was these two teams met last year
on the field, it was Week eighteen. A Stroud was
unbelievable eleven point seven yards per attempt. They won twenty
three to nineteen. Indianapolis has some problems in the secondary,
and you know what doesn't make things any easier because
Stefan Diggs now is on Texans, So I like the

(01:53:36):
Texas to win, but it's gonna be a high scoring game.
It's gonna be very high scoring. Why do I say that?
Because Jonathan Taylor has always had the number of the
Houston Texans. He's averaging one hundred and thirty five yards
in six games. But it's gonna be a high scoring game.
But the Texans will win.

Speaker 1 (01:53:49):
Not to bad.

Speaker 5 (01:53:50):
You didn't even mention Joe Mixon. I mean, I figured
you'd get an old Cincinnati guy in there.

Speaker 2 (01:53:54):
Not a good fan. I'm not a big fan of
JOm No.

Speaker 5 (01:53:56):
I mean, you know, some personal transgressions. Certainly he would
still hold over time, no question about it. And Stefan Diggs,
I mean, it's the honeymoon period for him. It'll be
year two when he causes discord in the locker room there.

Speaker 4 (01:54:10):
Maybe even with the discord, he still puts up a
thousand yard ceat he does. I think the team that
we have to look at is how does Buffalo respawn
without him? But for Stefan Diggs going to the Texans,
how does he fit in? Because all those guys he's
playing with, Tank Dill and Nico Collins, they looked up
to him as they were coming up, and so does

(01:54:30):
he end up being the defacto number one even though
they may have plans for others to be the number one.

Speaker 5 (01:54:36):
Yeah, certainly a deep receiving room. Now you add Dalton
Schultz the tight end. By the way, guys, Jonathan Taylor's
over under for rushing yard seventy three and a half.
Who's in? That's no, you just give us the statum
how he runs these guys over with a clip of
another fifty yards above. What is over under? Is I
was gonna.

Speaker 2 (01:54:55):
I'm taking the over.

Speaker 5 (01:54:56):
I log that up like it was a don't across sport.

Speaker 2 (01:55:01):
You just don't know. You just don't know. Come on,
I mean you gotta are you betting on that? What
do you take?

Speaker 12 (01:55:07):
Well?

Speaker 5 (01:55:08):
I mean it's gonna be part of my pick six.
I just we'll get into that a little bit later
on as we go, because hey, it's all for fun
and entertainment and maybe to earn an extra dollar towards
your next outing. He's Andy Furman, that's Bucky Brooks out
by Carmen. We got a couple more games we want
to get to before we get out of here for
this hour. Here it's Fox Football Sunday on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:55:28):
Ah.

Speaker 5 (01:55:28):
The musical stylings of Andy Furman's favorite, the legend himself.
He's Andy Ferman and Andy Ferman fs R. Check out
everything he's got going on there with his radio spots
and his columns and everything as he flows through. Always
appreciate the input and being fired up. Our guy Bucky Brooks.
He keeps us calm and positive, keeps us moving on

(01:55:51):
a Sunday towards positivity, inclusiveness and discourse. And I try
to go in the middle and be the agitator that
gets everybody fire up. As a full slate of NFL
games are there. Fox Football Sunday is where we're at.
We got a couple more games we want to get
to before the hour is up, So Mark, if you
would please, Raiders charge Here we go. The Coons goes

(01:56:14):
to the ir So there's another missing piece for your
Las Vegas Raiders. It is a three point spread in
this one. Forty is the over under. Not a lot
of optimism that the reconstructed Charger offense, nor that led
by Gardner Minshew will put up much in the way
of points. Last year from Minshew in Indianapolis for multi

(01:56:36):
touchdown games, he had three three hundred yard games. Herbert's
out of the walking boot. It's got two bookend tackles
in front of him, but a lot of question marks
on offense because you brought in two old guard often
injured running backs to get things started coming over from
in a sale or a trade with his brother Harbor
to Harbaugh, as it were. Devanta Adams a lot of

(01:56:59):
noise and space about him, but there's some talent on
this squad. Let's not make any mistake about it. Defensively,
they've got some big, heavy hitters offensively between Adams, Jacoby
Myers and the dual tight ends. There could be some
excitement here, but it is hardball bull. They got the
billboards up and down the freeways here of southern California. Andy,

(01:57:20):
what do you think for this one?

Speaker 2 (01:57:22):
You know what, I'm gonna make it real easy for
you to mention just Gardener Minshew, That's all I need
to say.

Speaker 5 (01:57:27):
So you're taking him to win?

Speaker 2 (01:57:29):
No, no, no, no, no way. They get the charges
you got Jim harbas Day's got these guys ready to
run through gasoline tanks. I mean, it's unbelievable. He's I'm
happy for him, I really am. He got out of
Michigan at the right time. He's in La. The Charges
are there. They may be the surprise team of the
NFL this year because of him.

Speaker 4 (01:57:49):
Yeah, there are a lot of people that expect that
to happen. I will say, we need to see what
this offenselessly without those weapons on the outside, Mike Keenan
and Keenan Allen, I mean Mike Williams of Keenan Allen.
Because this was offense that ran through the quarterback. It
will continue to run through the quarterback, but they just
want to make sure that the running game is a factor.
I think this comes down to looking at the quarterback battle.
Who do you trust the most? Justin Herbert we're on

(01:58:14):
the other side. Yes, I like corner Minshew. I'm gonna
go with Justin Herbert. I don't think Garna Minch is
gonna be able to put enough points on the board
for them to knock off the Charges.

Speaker 5 (01:58:22):
Can Bosa company get the pass rush going? That's the key,
get Minshew to get a little careless with the football. Obviously,
Chargers looking for more or really anything out of Quentin
Johnston after a disappointing rookie year. You bring in Lad McConkey.
You've got Josh Palmer, who has served as a number
one in the past, so opportunity there. Disley Hurst your

(01:58:42):
tight end dual threat as well. All right, one more
game to get through.

Speaker 2 (01:58:47):
Jat said forty nine ers.

Speaker 5 (01:58:49):
Saving well, a game that I'll probably die a little
bit on air with with my partner Jason Smith on Monday,
as he is big Jets fan. Of course, a lot
of injuries for San Francis on the defensive side at
every level, Grossmados, Winters, Hufunga, all with different injuries, availability questionable.

(01:59:10):
You've got Wilson and the holdovers from last year and
the receiving court for the Jets and Corley. Really it
all comes down to Aaron Rodgers getting the over under
a four and a half snaps, but trying to navigate
that San Francisco defense.

Speaker 4 (01:59:23):
Bucky Look, I think he comes down to the Jets
being able to outplay the Niners. I feel like the
Niners are distracted all of the stuff of the offseason,
the disease of me people, wint and he complaining about
the contract missing most of camp. I think that's a
lot for the Niners. Overcome. Give me the Jets. Even
though I'm not a Jet believer.

Speaker 5 (01:59:41):
Look at you Jets plus four forty three the total.
Andy last week.

Speaker 2 (01:59:44):
Taking the Jets at tell you what the key is
not to get Aaron Rodgers frustrated? Can they protect him?
The Jets right tackle on Morgan Moses. He's going to
have a big day ahead of him today. Can San
Francisco's defense get the Aaron Rodgers and get this Between
now in December first, the New York Jets on this
schedule only one Sunday home and either one of four
twenty Easton. Think about that. Between now with December fourth,

(02:00:04):
the Jets only have one home game in either the
one o'clock Eastern time or the four to twenty Easton time.

Speaker 5 (02:00:09):
Jets in primetime. Aaron Rodgers taking over your living room,
Gang Green is in full of fact. Andy, Thank you
so much, Bucky and I continue next on Fox.

Speaker 1 (02:00:19):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio Green Eggs, Welcome
in another beautiful hour.

Speaker 5 (02:00:24):
It's Fox Football Sunday. As we get ready, just a
four short, four hour sprint to kickoff here in earnest
of the full slate of games. Excitement, exuberants, hope is
the operative word for so many teams and fan bases.
As we get things rolling, Mike Harbin alongside Bucky Brooks.

(02:00:45):
We thank Andy Furman u IF for his time here
on a Sunday morning. We'll talk to Andy again next
week and see how good the prognosticating was. You find
Bucky on NFL dot com, NFL Network, read him at
Bucky Brooks all that he's got going on. He'll be
working the sideline for the Jaguars a little later, but
for now, we're broadcasting live from the Tierraq dot com,

(02:01:07):
Fox Sports Radio Studios, tirerac dot com. We'll help you
get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rac
dot com the way tire buying should be. And Bucky
excited to be with you for a full slate of activity.
As we talked about a little bit with Andy, I
mean so many marquee matchups. I always have issues with

(02:01:29):
the scheduling, right. I don't like the backloaded divisional games.
I think that's ill fated because of the number of
injuries in the War of attrition that we have. But
also here on the front end, we've got all these
marquee matchups. You could put any two teams together and
we're gonna show up for NFL football, all right. As
we continue here, we'll effort Bucky here in a second,

(02:01:50):
you can hear a little bit in the background, obviously
getting ready for a big day of work there with
the Jaguars and the Dolphins. We talked about that game
a little bit early in the program, going back to
last hour forty nine and a half, the total and
like in southern California heat wave, looking at one hundred degrees,
how you keeping cool there, Bucky? What's the pregame ritual?

Speaker 4 (02:02:13):
Oh? Well, the pregame ritual is to stay away from
being outside because it's warm, it's hot, it's muggy. It's
gonna be a hot one. You know how the Dolphins
like to do. They're gonna put the visiting team in
the middle of the sun, sir, trying to prehydrate, to
make sure that we don't have any issues in the
middle of the game.

Speaker 5 (02:02:29):
I was gonna say one of the extra points of
emphasis as we go through. Certainly here in southern California,
that'll be an issue later when we've got the Raiders
and Chargers. Because it's not a dome. It is an
outdoor facility. Yes, it has you know, the thin layer
in the covering or whatever. But it's an open air facility,
so it will get warm as much as they can

(02:02:49):
try to control the climate there. But that's one of
the extra factors in a September game down in Miami.
But for you, I mean, you played in the league,
covering the league these years, what's a week one? What
kind of memories does it stir? And how much are
you looking forward to this Jaguar squad?

Speaker 4 (02:03:08):
Well, I'm looking forward to the Jaguar squad just to
see it because it's the official kickoff rights to kickoff
to the season. That means everyone is underway, all the
games will be done by the day and so we
can begin to have a little overreaction Monday, of course
to what we saw. This week is the hardest week.
Is the hardest week for coaches and players because of
the unknown. The beginning of the season is a mix

(02:03:28):
of what you think you will be and then finding
out in reality, this is who we are going to
have to be, and you have to be able to
make these adjustments on the fly over the first two
three games of the season, and injuries will play effector.
But number Week one is tough because the conditioning is
a big part of who wins and who loses preseason games,

(02:03:50):
we don't want to play our starters. If we do plan,
we try not to play them a long time because
we want to make sure we get to the starting
line with everybody. The issue that you have is now
the game sixty minutes long and you're playing, and you
don't have the expanded roster like you had in training
camp to get subs. You have to play, and it
becomes a war of attrition in terms of who can

(02:04:12):
manage the substitution, who's able to tap into the depth
early to allow their best players to be fresh and
available if the game is tight in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 5 (02:04:20):
Yeah, it's the curiosity. Just looking at the slate overall,
we touched on some of the big games and got
a number drifting up in the over under totals of
the high forties into the fifties. So certainly for betters,
for fantasy owners, and just fans in general, the fireworks
will be there and you'll be seeing highlight reels for days.
You know me, I love the ground game and defensive football.

(02:04:43):
That means that you know you can't air it out
with occasion, but some of these games that are expected
to be a little more of a slug fest hold
some interest to me. We've got a number of new
head coaches. Hardball gets all the headline, but Canalis and
Raheem Morris and others you know that are trying to
stamp their way and their next futures. Hardball obviously linked

(02:05:05):
to what's going on back at Michigan as they get
schlacked by Texas yesterday, and immediately the graphics went up
as quickly as possible to show how many people left
the program after that. I don't know that we did
that for every other program, and I know that the
defending champions. I love the ceremony with Charles Woodson. I

(02:05:25):
mean it was like a Sunday morning service like we were,
you know, in the Holy Days or something. But I
don't know that we were ever quick to get a
graphic up about losses to a program of starters that
we were for Michigan yesterday.

Speaker 4 (02:05:39):
Yeah, now we were quick to dismiss some of the things.
I think the biggest thing for me in watching the
game was just how different they were a team that
was really about ground and pound and beat people up.
They were throwing the ball a lot with a backup
quarterback or a walk on quarterback who was making I
think only a seventh start like since the middle of
his high school ten So it is it is just baffling.

(02:06:02):
But yeah, there's going to be some of that with
Harbor being gone. What does it look like, what do
they miss how much of that identity has been changed
when you have a new takeover. So it'll be interesting
see how this plays out for them.

Speaker 5 (02:06:14):
Yeah, we'll talk more NFL here we go. Well, let's
tick with the college game for a moment, with the
number of upsets and narrow misses. Right, Penn State survive
in advance Oregon for the second straight week, survive and advance.
Some big upsets. Right, Well, we go back a week
ago where we had, you know, week zero, we had
a couple of big upsets, and then you look at

(02:06:36):
some of these close games, the changing landscape of college
football and wondering how much the nil transfer portal, all
these things, scholarship, you know, you're narrowing the gap and
those margins with such turnover, kind of like we look
at with the NFL as we come into new year, right,
especially if you didn't play substantive snaps in the preseason,

(02:06:59):
trying to get that continuity. We saw it in Philadelphia.
Obviously you expected some drop off with the offensive line
with no Jason Kelcey, but you saw how they struggled
just with exchanges so early and in the college games.
That seems to be much more pronounced through the first
three weeks of the season.

Speaker 4 (02:07:17):
Yeah, it is very pronounced. And look, the first part
of the season is always kind of kind of weird,
like in terms of just figuring out who's who and
what's what and really adapting and adjusting and with all
the rules changes, not only the players, but the officials
and everybody trying to figure it out. And we'll talk
about the dynamic kickoff because there's been the topic of

(02:07:38):
conversation for most of the off season. How is that
going to affect everything? It's gonna be a significant impact
in terms of like what could be and what we've seen.
Most people are saying, hey, because it's new and we
don't know, we go kick it through the end zone
and just give them the ball at the thirst.

Speaker 5 (02:07:55):
Nobody wants to be the guinea pig to see how
it can go wrong.

Speaker 4 (02:07:57):
Yeah, not on my wise. Yeah, not on my white.
Not gonna lose a game because we tried to experiment
and see if we could cover it. Yeah, just give
them the ball at the thirty and we'll figure it out. Yeah.
And so if they want more kicks in the game,
they're gonna have to move the penalty back to the
thirty five to force people to really make hard to
say his own field position.

Speaker 5 (02:08:16):
Yeah, I would think that's the thing from the NFL
side moving into this, the dynamic kickoff, the landing zone,
all of that stuff. You know, something I espoused and
I heard Belichick kind of echo it in one of
his many media sessions this week. He's got like ninety
seven jobs. Now he's everywhere he Now he's on snap
face too, So you got to face or whatever he's

(02:08:38):
calling it.

Speaker 4 (02:08:39):
He you know, he had to get on it with
that young companion that he.

Speaker 5 (02:08:43):
Has well, and you got to get in there and
sell meet them.

Speaker 4 (02:08:45):
Where they are, that is, to meet them where they are, like,
so you couldn't just use the old rotary phone. He's
gonna have to text and and fa face.

Speaker 11 (02:08:54):
Well.

Speaker 4 (02:08:54):
The other part is some of the other technology stuff.

Speaker 5 (02:08:56):
If he wants a ground swell of support, to get
him another coaching job. Hey, this guy still has it.
You got to also go where they are, almost like
you're a politician, right, You just can't go to the
old VFW clubs and whatever around town. You gotta go
and shake hands and kiss babies wherever they may be.
But for the dynamic kickoff, and back to that point

(02:09:19):
was unless you move the kicking team back from where
they're kicking off, right, So move that back another ten
or fifteen yards to force the ball to come down
in the field to play or to your point, all right,
it's more punitive of its thirty five to forty at
the thirty yard line. I don't think it's that much
of a penalty to the kicking team that you wouldn't

(02:09:43):
just kick it out of the end zone every time
if you can't. Now it's curious, right, Green Bay did
have one that they had land just inside the zone,
maybe cause for a little bit of chaos, But I
think I read a stat they were doing all the analytics,
you know, as they do out of Las Vegas, and
the estimate is that it'll be at roughly the twenty

(02:10:04):
nine yard line will be the average start position. So
just shy of what you get from the kickoff or
from through the touchback kind of scenarios. So really no change.
I think only five kickoffs got returned in the first
two games despite all the scoring. So yeah, nobody wants
to be the guinea pig to lose that lose a

(02:10:25):
big play and give up the huge play. But to
this point, the conservatism I think spares out for a
while until you're down and have to be aggressive.

Speaker 4 (02:10:36):
Yeah, and I think you have to play that way.
I think early in the years about playing the odds
and just kind of get kind of getting your feet
wet in terms of fielding. What do you have, what
do we want to do, What is the best way
for us to be able to get this done? It
changes everything, and so the kick you know, the reason
why everyone was worried is because the kickoff return has
the potential to completely change and flip field position. That's

(02:11:00):
why it was such a big deal. That's why it
was so much conversation around now.

Speaker 5 (02:11:04):
I know you and Andy talked about this a little
bit earlier, but the audience changes as we get into
the morning and folks coming and going and affiliates coming
in on the you know, the iHeartRadio app but it's
certainly our four hundred plus affiliates nationwide. What we saw
in Baltimore and Kansas City a lot of debate about
offensive line alignment, movement, what's a penalty, what's not, points

(02:11:26):
of emphasis, and such a lot of frustration, certainly from
the raven side of things, for how things were called
early in that game and then immediately because well, that's
what happens in the social media world of screen grabs,
et cetera. It's the all right, look at the right
tackle there in Kansas City, he's off to the races
on every pass blocking play long before the ball snaps. Like,

(02:11:49):
how do we find a happy medium and how much
do you expect play to be affected today coming out
of a the criticism but the way of that game
was adjudicated back on Thursday night.

Speaker 4 (02:12:03):
Look, there's always gonna be criticism, and I think the
way that you want to kind of handle it is
you just kind of have to understand the mechanics of
the situation. You have to hope that you get it
right and as a coach who as a player you
got to live through some of the mistakes that kind
of show up. Ultimately you try and take accountability by saying, hey, guys,

(02:12:25):
we shouldn't be in this position because if we had
done X, Y and Z earlier, it wouldn't come down
to these final plays, of these final moments. But it's
gonna be some of that. When you have humans making calls,
you can have some human area, you can have some
different interactions.

Speaker 5 (02:12:39):
This is where we get back to the old full
time official and all of those discussions that we have
every year, compensate higher and and all of those in
terms of the points of emphasis and adjudicating these penalties,
because let's face it, the spotlight is there. The estimate
is thirty five billion dollars be legal this year. That

(02:13:01):
doesn't even count shadow money or anything else flowing. And
the fact that it's still illegal in California.

Speaker 4 (02:13:07):
Yeah, that's amazing.

Speaker 5 (02:13:09):
How about that? I mean the expansion and the growth
of it, no question about it. But it means there's
more eyes on it, and every play that looks quasi
suspect or where consistency is lost, Yeah, it raises a
lot of flags and speculation. Last one before we break
and we'll get back into more of the on field

(02:13:31):
stuff here. Well, I guess this is as well the
Players Association. When do they start fighting back about the
field conditions on these international surfaces.

Speaker 4 (02:13:43):
Yeah, I wonder, man see, because here's the thing. Players
have always complained about it being on turf, So didn't
they play on grass? But sometimes when you go out
of the country to grass is different because it's been
brought in. It hasn't been you know, developed and groomed
and cultivated for scratch. It's always the potential of a
mess when you go outside of like the normal situation

(02:14:05):
where they play games. And you guys have talked about it.
I heard you and Jason talk about it on your
own show, like where the money grab right? Play for
everybody of that. But but may if they're gonna pay
us X amount of money, we're going to host these games.
And even though you have to stay in a hotel
for five days and not move or whatever this is

(02:14:26):
going down, we are playing this game. And that's that's
some of the stuff that that we tend to do
when it comes to national football.

Speaker 5 (02:14:33):
Well, because also, as I tried to remind Jason as
he went on, because look, the NFL has to wear
all the pain of it, right and then certainly folks
trying to figure out what Jordan Love's injury. How much
is you know, cleek getting caught versus the unfortunate kind
of getting wrapped up and and and hit as he
as he was right, Uh, And it's just the idea

(02:14:56):
that the players do get half the money, right, so
when the he continues to expand, it's not Hey, the
owners are the only ones benefiting from this. And I
think that's that always needs to be We need to
be mindful of that because the players have big decisions
to make, and just taking an extra day off in
the summer and giving up other things, which has sometimes

(02:15:18):
been the norm it seems, you know, is something that
needs to be fought. You know, we talk about the
strata of players, the sixty million dollars versus the guys
fighting to hang on the roster, get their service time,
et cetera. And so their considerations short term are are
never going to be the same. And what you're going

(02:15:38):
to be able to get folks to give up is
going to be vastly different depending on which part of
the locker room you're talking to. And I think that's
one of the hard parts and why the NFL always
gets the upper hand and where you can force things
like this, because there's now a report that they might
try to double the number of international games.

Speaker 4 (02:15:55):
Again, it's just lucrative, depended upon how it's done, it's
a very lucrative deal. The Jacksonville Jaguars have been on
the front end of that, right so hosting two London games,
one which is co sponsored by the NFL, the other
which is done by the Jaguars and shot Con. They
get all the cash from that. It's a cash cow.

(02:16:18):
So when the Jaguars have one of those games and
it's a sponsored game by Jacksonville, they get all the money.
They don't have to share any of the receipts. All
that money comes back to the team. And you know,
when you put tickets up for whoever you want to
play over in London, it sells out quickly. That is
a lot of cash. And that's why there is disappeal
to kind of expand beyond our borders when it comes

(02:16:39):
to playing the game.

Speaker 5 (02:16:40):
Get in there and sell, sell, sell at Bucky Brooks

Team in full effect, Isaac Lohencrod, Brianna, and of course
Chris Phfett over there on the technical production side of things.
He's all fired up as the fifty two and a
half is the total for the Lions and Rams on

(02:17:46):
a later I low part of the Chargers broadcast on
the other end of that extreme a forty over and
under as the Raiders and Chargers get after it. Hey,
football fans, be sure to tune in Fox Sports Radio
every Sunday morning beginning ten Easter. That's right, just thirty
five minutes from now seven am Pacific. Countdown to Kickoff
presented by bet MGM, Brian No, Jeff Schwartz, Professional better

(02:18:09):
Bill Krackenberger. They've got you covered three hours before kickoff
every Sunday morning. Listen to Countdown to Kickoff, presented by
bet MGM, right here, Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Your totals, your over unders, your prop bets, all of
those things covered, as well as those little intricacies within
the game, inside the numbers and data to make you

(02:18:31):
a winner at your man or you know, the online casinos,
or the obviously the bar bets that we have going
back all those years, Bucky. As we get ready for
Week one, we've talked about a lot of the question marks,
you know, the officiating points of emphasis, the heat in
a number of spots, but certainly contracts have been the

(02:18:54):
order of the day and a lot of times folks
get bored with business. It seems this cycle of the
n fell a lot more excitement, as it were, and
interest because you have such luminarias as Dak Prescott. We
saw what happened in San Francisco with both Brandon Ayuk
and Trent Williams, both get paid but miss a significant

(02:19:15):
amount of time. And for Ayuk, now the report is
he's going to be on a snap count as they
take on the Jets on Monday Night football. And you
know he's a guy that might have gotten lost in
the sauce and sauce gardener as it were. But now
you've got to go and figure out how many snaps
he's available for and how to best navigate because you
lost the guy that you drafted to be part of

(02:19:36):
the compliment in Pearceoll with the shooting incident a week ago.
So all of that to say, and then you've got
Cincinnati where you've got t Higgins and Jamar Chase and
I know for our guy Andy Furman, a lot of
hand ringing on this one. They've got New England this week.
But you know there's no lightweights in any of this,
and especially in a week one. But how much do

(02:19:58):
you think the contracts would go back to Dallas with
the guys that didn't get paid to wear This lingers
into the season and causes some problems in the locker room.

Speaker 4 (02:20:08):
Yeah, so to think about all of this, right, So
when we get to the contract situations, there's always like
a kind of like an unwritten rule. Right, you don't
count somebody else's money.

Speaker 5 (02:20:19):
Sure, of course.

Speaker 4 (02:20:19):
However, when you have a bunch of different people holding
out and looking around and contracts and you know how
those contracts are going to play out on the rest
of the room, it can create a weird dynamic. For instance,
in San Francisco. Right, players are not immune to what
people are speculating. So when Brandon Ayuk signs his deal
for the money, automatically people start saying, oh, well, this

(02:20:41):
is Deebo Samuel's last year with the team because Brock
Perdy has to be signed. You're Deebo Samuel. How do
you feel sitting in there? Brandon Aiyuk got his deal,
you have yours, but everyone is talking about you're out.
Can you put that to the side and say, hey,
Brandon and I are gonna work together and play really well,
I don't have any you know. Like, there's a lot
of different stuff. Kyle Ucheck has to take a pay cut,

(02:21:03):
but yet they pay Trent Williams, So there's a lot.

Speaker 5 (02:21:05):
Also, I had to restructure a bunch of money on
his deal. Right, Yeah, he had stuff and.

Speaker 4 (02:21:13):
Do some of that stuff and maybe some of that
will self preservation to help him stay around beyond this year.
But Cale Yucheck had to take a pay cut, and
he's looking around like, wait, mane, I got to take
a cut. But Trent Williams getting more money, I got Christian,
but Caffrey behind me getting money, Deebo, all these guys
getting money. Why do I have to take a cut?

Speaker 5 (02:21:32):
So especial because jas Williams had three years left on
his deal. Like, that's the thing I think that stood
out most.

Speaker 4 (02:21:38):
Yeah, and that's the part pat Riley used to say this.
It's called the disease of me because everyone feels like
they played a greater role than the team's success and
they want to be rewarded for it. That's where we're
at right now when you are talking about the San
Francisco forty nine. So how do they put all that
aside and play? Well, they can do it, but it's
more challenging to be able to do it now because

(02:22:01):
of all of that. And then in Cincinnati, when you
talk about the deals, you got Jamar Chase and t Higgins, Right,
t Higgins couldn't get his deal, so he had to
sign the franchise tag. But he has to feel some
kind of way when he looks as his teammate Jamar
Chase holding in and potentially about to get a deal.
How do you think he's gonna feel when Jamar Chase
signs his deal knowing that, wait a minute, you guys

(02:22:23):
have signed Jamar to keep him here, but you won't
sign me. Oh, maybe I need to take the first
week off. My back is a little tight, you know,
So any of those things, there's a lot of there's
a lot of little stuff that can go on like
and that's why whatever your policy is, you gotta stay

(02:22:44):
true to it, because if you start waffling, like it
appears to Bengals are waffling, you got people confused because
they haven't done it before, like a Jamar Chase type deal.
It's a different deal.

Speaker 5 (02:22:54):
Well that's that you go, h owner, the owner and
the situation, the situation. Samforti has been creative and you've
seen the continuity with Cincinnati, the longstanding legacy of for
lack of a better term, cheapness in their flow. And
then Jerry has historically caved in the eleventh hour no

(02:23:15):
matter how hard a line he seemed to be negotiating.
But here we go into the season. CD got his money.
You still got Dak doing the rounds, you know, for
interviews this weekend ahead of the big date against Cleveland,
and then Michaeh Parsons in the background, who the last
time we saw on tape he was he was like
he was wearing a cloak of invisibility. He was like

(02:23:37):
out of Harry Potter. Against the Packers, he was a
non factor as that defense got absolutely worked from pillar
to post. So, yeah, in Dallas, you've got all right,
the guy actually learned new tricks at age eighty two.

Speaker 4 (02:23:54):
Yeah, you do have some of that, you know, and
what you're wondering. So in Dallas the situation, okay, we
drug our feet forever and then we waited to pay
CD lamb. We couldn't get that deal done sooner. What
are we going to do with the quarterback? You know,
the quarterback is going to command about sixty million plus.

(02:24:16):
All right, we can play it out. We're mad at
him because of the way the Packers game went, all right,
all right, but don't let your emotions cost you, I
don't know, forty extra million dollars if you know he's
gonna be your quarterback.

Speaker 5 (02:24:28):
Penny Wise.

Speaker 4 (02:24:32):
Just yeah, just just what are we what are we doing?
What are we proving when we go about doing those
things like that? So I don't know, but I would
say as a fan, I would be annoyed. And I
always take it from the team the player's standpoint, primarily like, Okay,
everyone wants to get paid, but yeah, it's a it's
a different deal. It's kind of hard to look at

(02:24:53):
and understand what's going on, what's happening.

Speaker 5 (02:24:55):
Well, I think that the curiosity and the Dak conversation
is always interesting, and we we put off to the side,
you know, and just stipulate that the Cowboys being historically
quote unquote America's team and all the extra motivation you know,
the daily TV shows and certainly us on radio, they
move the needle, which is why no matter how good

(02:25:17):
or bad they are, they're still in that late window
or in primetime quite often. But it's also the idea
for a guy like Dak, you know, where it becomes
the well, he's not him. It's like, well who is
right now? It's Patrick Mahomes and everybody else fighting for
that next spot, and we can fight about tears, and
we could decide whose style we like more than the

(02:25:39):
other and and all of that stuff. They've won double
digit games three straight years. And while you may not,
he may not be your cup of tea, there's I
think what twenty five teams that would clamor to say, yeah,
we'd love to pay him when it's all said and done.
Maybe not as you know, boisterously, because they think they've
got a guy. But Dak's right there with most.

Speaker 4 (02:26:02):
Of them, absolutely. And that's the thing because, and here's
what Dak also knows, if you don't pay me, somebody
else will. And the fear factor that most players used
to have, Dak has already gone through that fire. So
the fear was, well, I need to sign this deal
before the season because if I get hurt, I won't
get my money. Dak Prescott didn't sign this thing, played

(02:26:25):
on a franchise tag saw his foot pointing one way
and his body in the different direction, and he still
got paid. So he knows that no matter what, I'm
going to get paid. So I'll wait this out. And
as long as I waited out, I know that the
price always goes up, it never goes down. So it's

(02:26:45):
gonna be an.

Speaker 5 (02:26:45):
Issue an excitement there. Let's go on to the field
for one situation. We've talked about it add nauseum over
the course of the offseason, but it's the situation in Pittsburgh,
the Russell Wilson testing things out. I think as long
as he can stay upright, I think Mike Tomblin stays
with him. We talked about it a little bit last

(02:27:06):
week because of ball security, but that doesn't mean there's
not a lot of folks clamoring to see justin fields
and Arthur Smith's offense, perhaps a new play caller, a
new design could actually make him a better quarterback than
what he's been.

Speaker 4 (02:27:23):
Yeah, it'd be interested to see what kind of offense
it looks like and how it continues to expand and evolve.
You always want to do things built around your best players,
and you want to do it what also kind of
masking some of the tennessees that your players have and
those those things. With the opening of the season, with

(02:27:46):
all the work that has been done, you're trying to
put it all together. But it's gonna be a work
in progress. So we mean, I really know what this
looks like until we get the week four and Week five,
when everyone kind of stills in and you kind of
know what your person there really can do. Game action
forty look, yeah it'll be interesting.

Speaker 5 (02:28:03):
Yeah, forty two's the total for this one. Atlanta four
point favorite at home. A lot of excitement and to
some analysis, hey they're gonna run away with that division.
I don't necessarily subscribe to that. With Captain Kirkin company,
certainly they've got potentially a potent offense there. Pittsburgh's defense
would talk about a test right, a matchup of Will's

(02:28:25):
right here what Atlanta can bring to the table offensively
in Pittsburgh at full health defensively one of the more
intriguing matchups of Week one.

Speaker 4 (02:28:34):
Yeah, it is a very intriguing matchup Atlanta because of
the fast start. Debrahem Morris wants to get out to
didn't play any of the guys, but when I talk
to guys down there, they talked about the simulated games
that they had on multiple occasions to get the team ready.
He was really impacted about what he saw from the
Rams and how the Rams approached things to help their
team get to the starting line with everybody ready to rock. Now,

(02:28:58):
it's about performing, performing under pressure and making sure you
can deliver when you need to be at your best.
Can they put it together and do it? They should
be able to offensively, they have enough firepower, but dan
Kin Kirk Cousins kind of get them to the next level.

Speaker 5 (02:29:13):
See how mobile he is moving laterally coming off the
big injury. Not that he was, you know, captain mobility
and rushing for forty yards a game anyway, but certainly
always those questions with Michael Pennix Junior over his shoulder.
He's Bucky Brooks at Bucky Brooks where you find and
find me over at Swollen Dome. A couple more games
and situations we want to get to as the hour progresses,

(02:29:35):
But first we're gonna turn it over to our guy,
a legend, a Hall of Famer at Isaac Loehenkron where
you find him. He's Bucky Brooks, Nemesis. It's Isaac Love
Ryan Hollins, Nemesis. You fight with everybody.

Speaker 3 (02:29:48):
But well, that's true. I would I would prefer to
deem it creative tension.

Speaker 5 (02:29:52):
Oh, I like that. That's a good journey. That's good.

Speaker 3 (02:29:54):
Bucky and I have been good ever since I forgave
him from what the Jaguars did to the Chargers.

Speaker 2 (02:29:59):
A couple of years ago.

Speaker 3 (02:30:00):
But that is as they say, spilt milk under the bridge,
speaking of legends and Hall of famers. By the way,
beautiful Gail Sayers, jersey worn by you.

Speaker 5 (02:30:09):
No, you know what we had. We had a listener
sent decided he didn't want anything in his closet anymore.
So this showed up and now it fits me beautifully. Hey, Bucky,
I'm resplendent. He is respond the jersey right now.

Speaker 4 (02:30:23):
I love it. It's a return zero.

Speaker 5 (02:30:25):
Return to glory today. That and he can't be bad
on the field to make me regret wearing it like that.
Jake Cutler, suresey that I born all those.

Speaker 3 (02:30:33):
Years right, that's a good point out legends, Yes, legends
never disappointed. Number two Ohio State did not disappoint on
Saturday night in college football. They shout out Western Michigan
fifty six to nothing. Number four Alabama over South Florida
forty two to sixteen, But this was a one point
game with ten or five left in the fourth quarter.
Alabama outscored South Florida the rest of the way, twenty

(02:30:55):
eight to three. Seventh ranked Oregon if he did Boise
State thirty seven to thirty four, as Oregon's Atticus Sappington
kicked the game winning twenty five yard field goal at
the gun. No word yet if Atticus was previously on
the scout team anyway elsewhere. On Saturday night, Number thirteen
USC defeated Utah State.

Speaker 2 (02:31:15):
Forty eight to nothing.

Speaker 3 (02:31:17):
In Major League Baseball, on Saturday night at the Los
Angeles Dodgers defeated the Cleveland Guardians seven to two.

Speaker 2 (02:31:21):
They scored six runs of the first inning.

Speaker 3 (02:31:23):
Now lead the nl West by five over the Padres,
who lost to the Giants six to three. Of San Francisco,
rookie Grant McCrae at two home runs had five RBI
in the WNBA, The Chicago Sky announced star rookie Angel
Rees sustained a season ending wrist injury in a game
on Friday night. Finally, Mike and Bucky. Among the NFL's
eight early games today, the Cincinnati Bengals hosting the New

(02:31:46):
England Patriots, and one unnamed Bengals fan appears to be
in mid season form already. He just posted a video
of himself opening a can of beer by smashing it
against his forehead five times and then shotgunning it as
it sprayed out a skill, no doubt, learned at the
Little Gentleman Gentleman's finishing school. Back to you, well, I mean, look,

(02:32:08):
if you're gonna do something, do it with style.

Speaker 5 (02:32:10):
Right. It's like my white Sox and there one hundred
and eleven losses. If you're gonna fail, fail spectacularly.

Speaker 1 (02:32:15):
It was more.

Speaker 3 (02:32:16):
Brute force than style in this case. Actually, you know what,
when he was shot gunning it, that was the style portion.

Speaker 5 (02:32:21):
I suppose did he do it again? Like, that's the question?
Did he come back with that routine for a second beer?
That's what we need our crack staff. I got on
the on the on the ground there to find out.

Speaker 12 (02:32:33):
I got the answer, Yeah he did, and a third
and a fourth probably yeah, and until where it looks
like a tattoo on his forehead the logo of said brand.

Speaker 5 (02:32:43):
What do you think of that? Bucky h and every
you know pregame. I mean, my brothers haded to Soldier
Field for you know, the Caleb Williams coronation and everything.
But I don't know that he'll run into any of that.
But curious, I mean, we'll have tables later. Right, we
got Arizona Buffalo, so oh, you know we've got chaos
all across.

Speaker 4 (02:33:03):
Yeah, a lot of chaos. It should be Uh. That
Buffalo Arizona game is one to watch just because I
want to see if Josh Allen can do the Pat
Mahomes thing. We have talked about him in the same light,
in the same vein as Pat Mahomes, but now we
get a chance to see if he can elevate a
wide receiver cord. It doesn't have a notable name amongst
it if we talk about.

Speaker 5 (02:33:25):
Him, Yeah, yeah, Colman, sir and the tight ends. So yeah,
it's all about the you know, Josh Allen for the
intriguing right because the other side, Kyler Murray looked like
a video game avatar last year as he was running
around when he was finally healthy. And you bring in
Marvin Harrison Junior. Total on this one is forty seven.
I think it's one of the at least from a

(02:33:47):
kickback after slamming a beer against your head five times,
one of the games of the day.

Speaker 4 (02:33:54):
It is a good game. It should be an outstanding game.
And the great thing about the beginning of the regular season,
what we think we know, We have no idea. There
are teams that we are ready to anoint as the
next race team, and we have no idea whether they're
gonna be good or not. And there's some teams that
we haven't talked about, that we've ignored that are ready
to take the next step. That's what's so great about

(02:34:15):
the football. It is the one game where your team
legitimately can go from worse to first in one offseason.
One change, whether it's a coaching change or whatever. You
can quickly flip your fortunes in the league because the
league is set up where everyone is not in eight
to nine, so it only takes a few lucky bounces
to go your way to find yourself with a top

(02:34:36):
seed and playing in a championship game i e. The
Detroit Lions and how they have quickly advanced to being
in the conversation as a title contender.

Speaker 5 (02:34:45):
Build a culture and hope the football gods smile on
your trainer's room. That's one of the big things. As
well as we have the War of Attrition, the first
of seventeen games for mostly team. We got eighteen weeks
here of National Football League action to come. We'll talk
about a couple more games and some highlights, some potential

(02:35:07):
breakout stars here as we continue, He's Bucky Brooks on
by Carbon here on Fox Football Sunday. Hey, welcome back
in It's Fox Football Sunday. Here Fox Sports or Radio
Mike Carbon alongside Bucky Brooks. At Bucky Brooks where you
find him. He's hydrating. He's getting ready to stand in
one hundred degree heat waiting for a big showdown between

(02:35:29):
the Jaguars and the Dolphins, one of the main marquee
games of a week one slate replete with big storylines
and curiosities, one of which we're talking about a little
bit here by folks down in the Tampa area living
in clear Water. They're looking at the Buccaneers off a
big season at Baker Mayfield Reclamation Project with Dave Canallis

(02:35:50):
who heads off to Carolina, but Washington and the Commanders
Cliff Kingsbury the new oc. There a lot of change
for the Commanders, but for Daniels rookie QB maybe loving
the fact that everybody pays attention to Caleb Williams.

Speaker 4 (02:36:09):
Yeah, I mean, look, you gotta like the everyone's fans
attention to Kayla Williams. We've annoyed it. Kayleb Williams as
the savior We're ready to put him in the MVP conversation.
The Bears are ready to go on a run where
they can win twelve games in a very very competitive division.
It appears that he maybe have gotten a break on
Friday Night. Jordan Love may sit out a couple of
games because of his injury, which could create an opportunity

(02:36:32):
for them to get a little space on their bitter rival,
the Green Bay Packers. So I mean, well, Caleb Williams
plays like many of us expect him to play. He's
gonna be right there.

Speaker 5 (02:36:42):
Yeah, you got all the offensive weaponry. We'll see Dj
Moore matched ups need there comes over from kse so
a little bit in the match with there, DeAndre Hopkins
not expected to go. One of the offseason acquisitions there
for Tennessee Chicago three and a half four point favorite
forty four the total there on the lake Front, but
shifting to Washington and what they've built and reconstruct to

(02:37:06):
bring in Austin Eckler alongside Robinson in that backfield Kingsbury
the oc I guess the big thing for me. Jaden
Daniels has been able to operate this summer, at least
for the most part, with all eyes on Chicago, so
allowing them to just kind of get to work. Whereas
coming off the year that he had at LSU that

(02:37:28):
you would expect far more of the flowers, the headlines
and the national scrutiny, but that just hasn't been the case.
So he's got a big tiltier Week one and made
an opportunity to make a name against a Buck squad
that comes off a great twenty twenty three season that
really was unexpected.

Speaker 4 (02:37:45):
Yeah, it is funny because normally the Hasmand Trophy winner
the most the most recent Heismand Trophy winner, we'll face
a lot of scrutiny based on what he is expected
to do right away, and he has kind of been
able to fly under radar a offseason. We've seen flashes
and clips where they've been excited about what he's been
able to do. All of the stuff coming out of

(02:38:06):
Washington has been super positive. Dan Quinn talked about how
he's grasped and taking command of the offense. All of
those things are great, but he certainly hasn't had the
national spotlight on him that Kayler Williams has had, and
you know, you just wonder will he be able to
play loose and free because he hasn't had that on
him compared to how Kayler Williams knows that every throw,

(02:38:29):
every snap that he engages in is going to be reviewed, examined,
discussed and picked apart. Win or lose for the Chicago
Bears going forward, Yeah, a.

Speaker 5 (02:38:38):
Couple of games we didn't get to, but just curious
as your season prospects. I mentioned Canallis takes over in Caroline.
He's got Bryce Young, who is because of the success
of CJ. Stroud and the expectation of this year's rookie
class has already been categorically disisissed. They bring in Deontay
Johnson and all this play a Saints team. Look, I

(02:39:01):
put them on our board here as they're going to
be the worst team in football. Remains to be seen,
of course, But is Carolina a team that could surprise
a little bit? I know expectations are rock bottom, but they.

Speaker 4 (02:39:14):
Read maybe you know, like I would say, it's surprise
in terms of being competitive, not surprise in terms of
winning more than we expect them to win or whatever.
Like they may be in games into the fourth quarter.
I still see a team devoid of like elite talent
on both sides, like they don't have enough where people

(02:39:35):
take the Patriots to task. The Patriots at least you
can talk about their defense potentially being rock solid, you know,
because they've played good defense. We have visual evidence of that.
We don't have evidence recently of the Carolina Panthers playing great.
They've been okay on defense, but they haven't been what
they could be and what they should be with Derek
Brown or some of the other players that have So

(02:39:57):
we'll see what it looks like. I just I just
hope that Bryce Young gets a fair shake in terms
of being able to play with some weapons so he
can show what he can do.

Speaker 5 (02:40:06):
He's Bucky Brooks at Bucky Brooks, find me over at
Swollen Dome. And then we've got obviously Denver and Seattle
the other rookie quarterback Countdown to kickoff, breaks it all
out next
