Speaker 3 (00:12):
I literally have goosebumps right now.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
We're broadcasting live from the tyrack dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Ty rack dot com.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
We're gonna help get you there and on match selection,
fast free shipping. Free Road has a protection over ten
thousand recommending installers ti rack dot com the way tire
buying should be. We have eight games kicking off right now.
Here is the Rundown Steelers at the Falcons, Cardinals at
the Bills, Titans at the Bears, Patriots at the Bengals,
Texans at the Colts, Jaguars at the Dolphins, Panthers at
(00:41):
the Saints, Vikings at the Giants.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
The whole gang is here, Richie.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
We are ready to go for our first full Sunday
here of the NFL season. And we start with a
couple of big stories today. Dak Prescott gets the deal done.
He's now officially the highest paid player in the NFL. Also,
Russell Wilson will not start the Steelers with that calf injury.
That means Justin Fields will get the start for the
Steelers Tyreek Hill. As we heard with the Nick Cope update,
(01:08):
detain handcuffed coming into the stadium today he is on
the field for the Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
So we're ready to get this thing started.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
Absolutely, And Caleb Williams has painted his fingernails orange, which
leads us to our first question of this NFL First Sunday.
What color did Dick Buckets paint his nails ahead of
his first out? I do not believe he ever painted
his tail set.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
But he also never brushed his teeth apparently before it came.
So yeah, she was ready to give you the full,
the full breath of it. This is interesting also with
the kickoff rule. Twenty four kickoffs and the Thursday and
Friday night games and only five were actually returned, which
is a lower percentage than we thought. So a lot
of people thinking this kickoff rules a bus But we
(01:53):
are going to see right now what is going on
with this kickoff. There we go and we'll see if
they're going to go in the landing zone or just
kick it out of the end zone. So this is
going to be a big test, I think for this rule,
which is obviously the biggest change in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
This year the new kickoff role.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
But based on the first two games we saw it
was an absolute bust.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
I would almost guarantee this will go away. And here's
the reason why. So unless they changed the touchback to
be more whatever you call it, I just broke the microphone,
hang on it.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
That's okay, more of a penalty like market. Instead of
the thirty yard light, put it at the forty yard.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Ye, put it at the forty put it at the
thirty five, because what was what they were seeing. And
a lot of teams wanted to test out their coverage
unit in the preseason, a lot of teams wanted to
test out the returns. So there was kind of like
a brother in law agreement between coaches, like we're going
to kick it to you in the landing zone and
you're going to return it, and we're going to see
how our coverage does. On average, teams got out to
(02:51):
about the twenty eight yard line. Well, if you touch
it back, you lose thirty yards of field position. It
gets brought out to the thirty. So NFL coaches are smart,
they pay attention to the analytics, and so what they
said is, well, why risk the big return.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Or the touchdown for two yards.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
For two yards, I'll just kick it out the back
of the end zone or all and form my kicker
that that's what we're looking to do, and every single
game we'll start with a touchback.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
That's how this is going to happen. I agree with you.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
It was not well thought out and it was a
gimmick rule in a minor league that they thought was
going to at the very least lesson the impact of
injuries potential injuries on the return and the coverage teams
for the kickoff. All right, we are underway. Let's talk
about back tech. Excuse me. Dak Prescott getting the richest contract. Ironically,
he will be going later this afternoon against the Cleveland Browns.
(03:43):
Remember Deshaun Watson's numbers were two hundred and thirty million
guaranteed and Dak Prescott's deal of that deal two hundred
and thirty one million dollars guaranteed, So he has the
most guaranteed money, richest contract the NFL. A quarterback whose
postseason record is two and five. Did the Cowboys do
(04:05):
the right thing?
Speaker 3 (04:06):
They did the.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Only thing they did, the only thing they could do
in a situation like this, you are about to start
your season. You cannot have your starting quarterback play on
a lame duck year. You just can't do it, not
in this league, not at in such a competitive league.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Also, by the way, I know.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
We complain about the Dak Prescott playoff record, and I
get it. You know, the quarterback is an integral part
of wins and losses.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
He's had a couple of those games where he was
the reason they lost.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
So and we have a big run in this Dolphins
Jaguars game. Is that Is that a chain getting out? Yes,
got loose? Yeah, now we're into Jaguars territory. The Dolphins
at about the plus forty four yard line heading in
and to a tongue Vailoa on the quick snap there,
(04:54):
drop back in the gun and then scrambled back to
the line of scrimmage slid. So to another story line
because you just mentioned it, Dak Prescott got paid so
to two of this offseason.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Yeah, and ready to take the field right now. The
number one pick in the NFL draft. That would be
Caleb Williams. The Bears, a team that I think can
make the playoffs this year. Again, this was not you'd say, well,
they had the first pick in the draft. Yeah, well
that was Carolinas pick. They were seven to ten. It
wasn't like they were four and thirteen. Said they were
(05:24):
respectable on the bad side, but with Caleb Williams and
quarterback obviously, it's a nice game to open up at
home against the Titans team where expectations are low coming
into this season. Anxious to see Joe Burrow and the Patriots.
Excuse me, the Bengals on their opening drive force to punt.
So the Patriots defense that I know you've been touting
(05:47):
held the Bengals on their opening drive. So the Patriots
will take over here early in this game. Still looking
for our first score. A lot of wagering on who
will score the first touchdown of the NFL all Sunday.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
And we have Kevin Cousin or Kirk Cousins. Kevin Cousins.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
We have Kirk Cousins out in Atlanta. Got the start
with the Falcons against the Steelers, who will start justin fields.
He just threw incomplete. There's a flag on the play.
It looks like it's going to be an offsides from
the Pittsburgh Steelers defense. This is the opening drive of
this game. And when the Steelers offense takes the field,
it will be Justin Fields. As you mentioned, Russell Wilson
(06:26):
out with that calf injury that hampered him all training camp.
He reaggravated it recently, and so we'll see how the
Pittsburgh Steelers offense looked. They didn't look good last year.
They didn't have much to speak about a quarterback. They
made several changes trading for Russell Wilson.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Wait a second, Mason looked like a juggernaut in those
last couple of games, all of a sudden. He was
certainly an upgrade from what they had previously. But let
me ask you a question here. Let's say Justin Fields
lights it up today against the Falcons. Is it conceivable
the Russell Wilson will never take the field in his
Steeler uniform in a regular season game.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Not only conceivable, but probable.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
I would say that if you're Mike Tomlin, after having
the year you had last year, play the hot hand,
why would you steer your team away from Justin Fields.
If he has early success, lean into that, and if
he continues the success, well keep him in the game.
We saw Caleb Williams flush out of the pocket, ranging
to his left side.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
That we have ourst touchdown and his courtesy of the
New Orleans Saints on their opening drive has taken a
seven to nothing lead over the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Derek Carr leading the team.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Down the field and it was a fifty nine yard
touchdown passer Rashid Shahed.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Guys, it was a bomb.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Fifth through nine yard bomb Derek Carr, who everyone wants
to get rid of in New Orleans. They want to
make a change at quarterback. But Derek Carr off and running.
So that is your first touchdown of this NFL. First
NFL Sunday goes to Shahed from Derek are fifty nine
yards and the export is good. So the Saints take
(08:04):
a quick league one of the most.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
Forgettable games on the early slate and Derek Carr flashing
early success with the Saints offense. Look, there were some
promises made this offseason by this this Saints offense. Derek
Carr talking about how they're way ahead of schedule. They're
feeling very confident heading into the season and already getting
into the board or on the board early. As we're
(08:27):
seeing Kirk Cousins unlock the skilled position players that have
laid dormant in Atlanta for what feels like years. Now,
Drake London get involved. You have Kyle Pitts it tight
end John Robinson in the backfield dotting the shotgun formation.
It's going to be very interesting to see the Falcons
participate in the NFL with quality quarterback play well.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
And then on a first and goal of the ten
yard line, a quick handoff nets negative three yards.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
If somebody's got to put a block of TJ. Wat Yeah,
you gotta put a body TJ. White. You can't just
let him shoot the gap.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
And they tried, and that's a pretty darn good tackle
who tried to block him.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
But they also like a guy that knows how to
tackle as he wraps them up around the legs and
down he goes. All right, So second and goal from
the thirteen yard line for the Falcons Kirk Cousins. Obviously
they are hoping with the money they invested in him,
that he is going to be the difference and make
him a playoff contender this year.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Yes, Chris, we do have.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
A punt fumble in Vikings Giants here it has been
so far. Last play of the drive for the Vikings,
Sam Darnold getting crushed by the Giants d line and
then punts fumbled. Unfortunately, the bad news for the Giants
is now here comes Daniel Jones. Yes, by the way,
yesterday in the other two phases, I don't know how
(09:47):
this offense is.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
On Fox Football Sunday Saturday yesterday, Montsie and I made
picks on three games. One of them was the Vikings
Giants game, and I picked the g Men. They're not
gonna have many wins, I promise you that. But you
look at Sam Darnold, how's this going to work on
the Vikings, especially in the first game Giants that met
life in their opening game. This could be a really
ugly game in one of those low scoring games.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
With breaks like that, no question could.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Get the g Men a rare win this year.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
All right, So the Forms are facing a fourth and
goal at the Pittsburgh six yard line. My guests, they'll
settle for the field goal here to get their first
points of the season. It'll be compliments of their field
goal kicker. But how high on the Falcons are you
this year?
Speaker 3 (10:34):
I have them winning the division?
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Okay, yeah, yeah, I mean, by the way, if you
do not know, over the last two Sundays, on this show,
everybody here was held accountable with their predictions on every
single team in the NFL for twenty twenty four, so,
unlike many shows, they can look back.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
So I told you back in the day, No you didn't.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
We're on the record, so you can check out those
podcasts of the last two Sundays get all of our picks.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
So the Falcons are on the board of three to
nothing ballgame in Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Over the Steelers.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
We'll see the Steelers offense when this game continues for
the first time with Justin Fields that quarterback, not Russell Wilson.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
All right, The Giants right now have a second and
ten at the Minnesota twenty yard line. This is our
first time, but we are going nowhere for you. We
will continue on and give you all the updates. If
you've never been here before, this is the only place
to be for all the scores, all the stats, everything
you need to know NFL Sunday.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Out of a shot down.
Speaker 9 (12:13):
This car Panthers bring four cars, stands now fires it
deep no the field pushy see see you lay up touchstop.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
New Islands plus shame. That's WWL Saints Radio Network. That
was the first touchdown of this first NFL Sunday. Saints
have added a field goal, so ten nothing right now.
Saints over Carolina ten minutes ago in the first quarter.
In that game, we have another touchdown to talk about.
(12:45):
Rich the Arizona Cardinals jumping up early against the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Tough throws and tough catches in the low red zone.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Kyler Murray drafts back pump fakes and then steps up
into the pocket on the scrambled drill and he floats
one up to Michael Wilson, who comes down for six.
Kyler Murray has been talking a lot about his confidence
in this Cardinals team this preseason. He had a couple
of comments where he said, We're gonna sneak up on people.
People have been sleeping on me. Talking about his individual talents.
(13:16):
This could be a big year for Kyler Murray. Sounds
like he's all the way back.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Well, and if Marvin Harrison Junior turns out to be
the player he is, that Arizona offense is gonna score
some points. A couple of teams have gotten field goals,
the Texans when an early three to nothing lead on
the road against the Golts, and the Giants settle for
a field goal up three to nothing against the Vikings.
Once again, we are live from the tai Iraq dot

Speaker 4 (14:11):
We've got Bershinger in the control room, back in our
in our editing bay.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
We've got rapid Radios in the production studio.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
I mean, I mean, you say that like a good thing,
but we're getting we're getting a lot of the donut
burps from bursts.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Yeah, we don't need value.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
They brought in a Mike, Big Mike brought in a
Baker's dozen celebrating his Carolina Anthers. Sorry, who Yeah, a
Baker's dozen?
Speaker 3 (14:37):
You ever hear of thirteen? And so I've just never
heard of a big mic? Oh yeah, in a big mic.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Caleb Williams Uh start for the Bears is slow.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Two of four six yards, two of four.
Speaker 7 (14:51):
Six big big fourth down completion to Keenan Allen.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Though, okay, okay, well it's nice to have Keenan Allen
as one of your receivers. H. So we're keeping an
eye on Caleb Williams. He he's going to a big
scramble and he is gonna get sacked. Wow for about oh,
I don't know, a twenty twenty five yard loss.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
So this is the problem with a young quarterback who
has relied on his legs in college to extend a
lot of plays.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
You can't take twenty yard losses on sacks.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
No, and especially when you're in the plus area of
the field, so you're inside your opponent's thirty yard line.
So it's a I mean, that's a chip shop field
goal these days for any of these kickers, and you
get all the way back to midfield trying to extend
to play.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Look, it's a.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
Young man who's going to be learning on the run. Obviously,
is the first overall draft pick thrown out of the
frying pan into the fire. But mistakes like that you've
got to learn fast because you can't make too many
of those, you'll start losing games. And you lose enough
games early in the season, your playoff hopes go by by.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
By the way, officially a nineteen yard sacked. Take him
back to the forty four, Chris, we got somebody else
you want to talk about young quarterbacks. We have a
touchdown in the Colts game sixty yards from Anthony Richardson
to Alec Pierce in the now, Houston up seven to
three on the Texans, All right, Indianapolis, Yeah, seven to three,
(16:10):
Indianapolis lead in the Texans five minutes to go in
the first quarter in that game. And the word on
Anthony Richardson preseason has been negative.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
Yeah, like that's all we've.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Been hearing, Like he may not be ready, we may
not have the right guy.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
Was it the Bengals who had joint practices with the
Colts and that defense was savaging Anthony Richardson all week long?
Speaker 3 (16:33):
In fact, that's what we started hearing.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
The fallout from the practice week was the Bengals defensive
players were openly chiding Richardson because all his passes were
close to line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
They were saying, hey, give us some work throw the
ball downfield. We need to get we need to get
some work on some deep ball passes. But they were
terrified to do that.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
And then he went out against the Bengals in the
preseason and looked terrible. So it's good to get some
confidence early in this Colts game.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Steelers get a field goal to tie up the game
against the Falcons three to three. Right now, four and
a half minutes to go in the first quarter in
the game, and the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Have the ball back right now.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
No score so far in this matchup between the Jaguars
and the Dolphins. Jacks just got a first down deep
in their own territory. The Miami Dolphins another team that
we have to sort of take a step back.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
Everything was going really well.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Last year and then all of a sudden, they lose
that home game They've cost them dearly. Then they had
to go into the deep freeze in Kansas City in
the playoffs. So we're going to see if this Dolphins
team can bounce back. Certainly we'll like get a victory
at home to open their season against the Jags.
Speaker 5 (17:40):
What do we got, Chris touchdown Vikings, Aaron Jones just
running it in there. Okay, so Aaron Jones who jump
ship on his old NFC North team to his new
one with the Minnesota Vikings plunging in for a score there.
Miami is going to be an interesting team this season.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
Because Tua got a vote of confidence and then on
the like maybe it was a week or two later,
he started attacking his old coach Brian Flores called him
a terrible person, said that he showed up to work
every day and he was told how bad he was
at football, how he was replaceable. Look, there are players
who can be coached hard, and there are players who
can't be And Mike McDaniel has struck all the records
(18:18):
with Tua. He's been loving him up, he's been telling
him how good he is. And sometimes you need to
feed the ego of a player in order for them
to perform. Clearly that's the case with the Miami Dolphins quarterback.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
All right, who mentioned the Vikings seven to three lead
on the road against the Giant Sam Darnold perfect three
for three, thirty nine yards, zero completions.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
Though, to Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Daniel Jones is up and running guys two for three
for negative three yards. Okay, well listen, two for three cheese,
negative three yards.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
Say, all right, I think it is. It could be worse.
But he has eight yards rushing. He could have negative
four yards.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Yeah, So two for three passing from negative three yards yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
I mean, I mean, honestly, or he could have giving
up an eighteen yard sack.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
In Carol, would we.
Speaker 7 (19:03):
Get Michael Vick back? And you want to criticize him, Steve?
Speaker 10 (19:06):
Really?
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Yeah? I know, yeah, I mean he is mobile. He
is mobile.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
All right, Let's see what other game is still scoreless.
That would be the Patriots and the Bengals. Now this
one on the surface. I have Joe Burrow as my
league MVP this year, but it seems like the Patriots
are playing better. You're the only one on the planet.
I have the Pats, by the way, as.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
The worst team in the league this year.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
I document on them. I have some faithorite, and I
have Joe Burrow's league MVP. But right now, Jacoby Brissett's
getting a little movement in this Pats offense.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
Okay, so Drake may all you hear all preseason long,
and you have a lot of people interested in covering
this team, so we get a lot of insight from
training camp. Drake may looks good, right, so you're hearing that,
and then, by the way, you watch him during the preseason,
Drake may look good. Preseason doesn't account for much, but
there is an evaluation process.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Then you're starting Jacoby Brissett.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
And I don't know if anybody else is paying attention
to Jacoby Brissett's.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
Career, but he's pretty good.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
He's not a starter, He's not an elite level starter,
certainly in this league, but he's pretty good. He can
certainly keep the wheels on as he scrambles for a
first down on a.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Third side the ten yard line. First, they go for
the Pats Jacoby Brissett. It's four to seven for forty
four yards. Joe Burrow two for two twelve yards. And
that's just a focus on the offense. You look over
at the Patriots defense.
Speaker 4 (20:25):
They got some real dudes over there, and they have
health for the first time. Last season they were riddled
with injuries on that side of the ball. So the
Patriots inside the Cincinnati Bengals ten yard line, looking to
score here first in this game, as you mentioned, the
only scoreless game left in this early slate, As they
have a first and goal from the Bengals nine and
(20:45):
a half eight and a half yard line, short motion,
and we'll see what happens here. It is a tackle
for loss.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
Yeah, that's not a good start.
Speaker 7 (20:54):
Would it interest you guys to know that Kirk Cousins
just through an interception.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Yeah, it would interest me. It would interest me. But
it also that you're saying that Pennix is in the back.
Speaker 7 (21:02):
Just yeah, Jaguars touchdown.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
I'll tell you the team is the surprise team so far,
as the Arizona Cardinals have outgained the Bills one hundred
and three to sixteen so far in this game.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
And they have the ball again and are moving again.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Kyler Murray is eight of nine for eighty three yards
and that touchdown pass. So Arizona right now on the
road against the Bills have dominated this game so far.
Speaker 11 (21:28):
Well.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
They came out, obviously with an opening script that was
effective and to catch everybody up on how it goes.
As an offensive coordinator, the night before the game always
does you work through about the first ten to fifteen
to twenty plays that you're going to run if you
remain on schedule, which means that you're getting five yards
on first downs or you know, four yards, you have
(21:48):
third and manageable. That's what when you hear a color
analyst talk about, hey, you know they're on schedule right now,
it means that you're in third and manageable the whole way.
And the offensive coordinator he can rattle off the plays
that you've been practicing all week as your drive starters
or your your first quarter plays before adjustments are made defensively,
so out the gates, Cardinals looking good. Let's see what
(22:10):
the Bills do to adjust, and then let's see what
the Cardinals can do to adjust to that again. In
into his second year as a head coach's rookie year
last year, the Cardinals lost a lot of football games,
but they were a frustrating team to play.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
They were a tough out all year long.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
And the jag scored first on the road against Miami,
a one yard run for Travis Etn So the Jaguars
seven to nothing lead over Miami. All right, let's find
out what is trending right now. Nick Cope signed up
for this today and he is ready to go with Yes,
a full scoreboard around the National Football League.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
Nick, Yes, just some more context to this Bill's Cardinals game.
After Arizona got the touchdown, they actually kept the kickoff
in play. Bills returned it back across midfield a couple
plays later, sack fumble on Josh Allen. So that's why
the Bills haven't been able to do anything on offense.
Yet they barely had the ball because that first drive
for Arizona took about half the first quarter.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Clawd Cardinals on the move right now.
Speaker 5 (23:05):
They got it second down in the red zone, looking
to go up two scores on the Bill seven to nothing.
Late in the first quarter in Buffalo, Kyler Murray great
start nine of ten eighty six yards and a touchdown.
He's also ran for seventeen yards. James Connor has been
heavily featured. He's got forty nine total yards rushing and receiving,
three to three between the Steelers and the Falcons justin
(23:27):
fields two of four negative one yards through the air.
He does have three rushes for eighteen yards, as Boswell
was able to drill a fifty seven yard field goal
to tie that one up. No score between the Titans
and the Bears juse yet Caleb Williams three of six passing.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
For five yards.
Speaker 5 (23:43):
On the other side, will Levis three of fifteen for
fifteen yards. No score between the Patriots and the Bengals,
but the Pats have third in goal from the Bengals
three when they start the second quarter coming up. Texans
have just hit a field goal Fairbairn another fifty yarder
fifty one and fifty for Fairbairn to pull the Texans
within one. But probably the highlight of the day so far.
(24:05):
Was the touchdown earlier from the Colts.
Speaker 12 (24:07):
Richardson on play action backs to throw, he slips on
the turf, gets.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Up hes at Talpeel Poky for Alick Pearce.
Speaker 13 (24:15):
Touchdown sixty yards Anthony Richardson to Alec Pearce Colts Radio
Network and Richardson had pressure right in his face off
his back foot, making that throw really impressive stuff mentioned.
Speaker 5 (24:32):
The Jaguars up seven to nothing on the Dolphins. The
ETN rushing touchdown Trevor Lawrence one of two for nineteen
yards passing to a tongue of I LOOA four Miami
four of nine passing for fifty four yards.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
Tyreek Hill.
Speaker 5 (24:45):
He was detained earlier momentarily on his way into Hard
Rocks Stadium for reckless driving, but he is playing couple
of catches so far for twelve yards. By the way,
Miami Dade Police Department director says she has requested a
review of tyreek Hill's t including body camera footage. Saints
on top of the Panthers at ten nothing late first quarter,
(25:06):
Rashid Shaheed had the fifty nine yard pass from Derek
Carr the big play there and the Vikings lead the
Giants seven to three. It was Aaron Jones taking it
in from inside the five yard line for the loan touchdown.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
In that one other non game.
Speaker 5 (25:21):
News, of course, Cowboys and Dag Prescott four year, two
hundred and forty million dollar extension, two hundred and thirty
one million of a guaranteed he becomes the highest paid
player in NFL history. NFL Media says the Packers are
not expected to pursue any veteran quarterbacks. They expect Jordan
Love to be back sooner than later on that three
to six week timeline for that knee injury, and then
(25:42):
Kendrick Lamar is gonna do the halftime show at Super
Bowl fifty nine in New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
Back to you guys, all right, Nick, thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Once again, this is Red Zone Radio, Steve Hartman and
Rich Ornberger with you with our entire cast here.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Caleb Williams' debut for the Bears.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
Right now, as we are heading toward the end of
the first quarter, no score this game against the Titans.
Titans are actually moving the ball right now with will
Levis at quarterback. Total yards for the Bears in the
first quarter five three of six passing for five yards
or Kala Williams. He also took that ill advised nineteen
yard sack that took them out of field goal range.
(26:18):
So not exactly the kind of first quarter of the
Bears are hoping with their prized rookie quarterback.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
Yeah, not a good start.
Speaker 4 (26:25):
Look if you watched any of the preseason as the
titles get on the board, Tony Pollard running back, kind
of scrap heaped from Dallas now appears in Tennessee and
he appears on the scoreboard first in this game in Chicago,
a six to nothing ballgame. On a long run from
Pollard on the it looked like a power play. Yeah,
(26:47):
you had the right guard poll leading up huge ho Yeah,
just kicked out the m man on the line of
scrimmage and the Bears defense had no one home. It
was green grass for Pollard, and he's quick once he
gets into open field.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
Upset alert all over the NFL.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
Right now, how about the Pats up seven nothing on
the Bengals.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
Okay, so Jacoby Pressett on popular opinion. But he's a
good quarterback. I know that he's had some rocky years
in the past. We remember that season where suddenly Andrew
Luck retired in the preseason, he had a fill in
for him. I believe that was back in twenty seventeen
and he had to jump in there and they were
a four win Colts team and he started the majority
(27:25):
of those games.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
I get it.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
But since then he's developed into a dependable and defendable backup,
and I will defend him. I think he's actually a
very quality talent to have on your roster, and he's
a role player this year for the Patriots. They don't
need him to be Peyton Manning. They don't need him
to be the next Tom Brady. They just need him
to keep the wheels on until his understudy Drake May
is ready to take over.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Upset alert, Cardinals now have a ten nothing lead on
the road against the Bills. Time of possession this game
twelve minutes to two. Yeah, Cardinals completely controlled the clock
and Kyler Murray him like he was a legitimate pro
bowler versus first couple of years. Ten of eleven eighty
seven yards and a touchdown pass to start this game
(28:08):
on the road against the Bills.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
We might have forgotten. One of the big keys of
the game is that there is a new call of
duty black ops in the way, so I'm pretty sure
I'm watching Kyler Murray every time he throws this ball.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Whisper black ops, yes, black ops.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
Yes, it's all right, it's all happening. So we have
a lot of teams on the road. Saints have scored again. Wow,
we were hoping maybe Carolina would be a little better
this year. How about down seventeen to nothing already to
the Saints. Two touchdown passes for Derek Carr. Meanwhile, Bryce
Young in this game oz for two with an interception,
(28:43):
so that is let me calculate his passer rating is
zero point zero Bryce Young.
Speaker 9 (28:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
So there we go, the Carolina Panthers hoping that, hey,
we're a much better team this year. Not in this
first quarter, seventeen th Saints with.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
A mint to go. Head coach Kanalis has his workout cutout,
work cutout for him. Look, I'll give him credit.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
He was with that Seahawks crew that got the absolute
most out of Gino Smith over the course of his
entire career. He went down to Tampa Bay and helped
the renovation of Baker Mayfield turn them into not only
a postseason team, but a postseason team who could win
against the Philadelphia Eagles. Team who just appeared in the
Super Bowl last time they were in the postseason, and
(29:31):
then took the Detroit Lions, who are the class of
the NFC right now outside of the San Francisco forty
nine ers, all the way to the fourth quarter in
that matchup. And so he moves on to become the
head coach with Bryce Young. We'll see what he can do,
because Bryce Bryce Young was a mess last year. Nothing
good was happening in Carolina. And like I said, if
anybody can do it, you have faith that a quarterback
(29:53):
whisper over the past two consecutive seasons can do it.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
Otherwise Carolina has got to move on.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
Well, if he's a quarterback whisper, he needs to raise
his voice a little bit so we can actually be heard.
Because right now, whatever men he's trying to deliver to
that Carolina offense quarterbacks shout yes, yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Can't hear you.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
Total yards right now, Saints one sixty one, Carolina fifteen,
all of those.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
On the ground.
Speaker 14 (30:20):
He just needs to lean down, our guys, can't.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
Our team wears blue, all right.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
Bengals trying to get something going offensively right now, down
seven nothing at home to the paths.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
What was the line on this game?
Speaker 7 (30:39):
Bengals Bears just turned it over on the kickoff.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
Believe Bears game is getting not looking good?
Speaker 5 (30:45):
Right, Always a good reminder that week one is beyond unpredictable.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
All right.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
I'm glad you mentioned that because I was listening to
the guys today, right, and and week one is short
of that week where if you are an astute gambler,
you can really take advantage of teams to get over
hyped because everyone's got a lot of hype right going
in the season, and if you do your homework, rich,
I would imagine it could be a feeding frenzy, some
easy wins, yeah, in week one, because everyone really is
(31:13):
we haven't seen any of these teams play.
Speaker 4 (31:15):
So betters, gamblers, they're looking for edges right on everything.
You know, whether you're sitting down at a table and
you're studying blackjack or if you're betting on sports, you
have to find edges. So if you are obsessed with
I don't know the Bears or the Patriots, or you know,
whatever your team is, and you think you may have
some insight as to how a game is going to go,
(31:36):
you got to exploit these edges. While you have them,
because things get hammered out, the sharps. They start to
figure things out. As the season moves into week two,
week three, obviously you have a better understanding of the
injury report. Also that becomes a lot clearer as the
NFL season rolls on. So absolutely everything they said this
morning on countdown to kickoff with with Schwartz and crack
(31:59):
and know that's exactly right. There are edges to be had. Also,
check out some second half lines if you're interested, because
you can make some money in the second half of
these games all week one long.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
All right, And the first quarter now in Chicago, Bears
trailing the Titans seven and nothing, and the Titans have
the ball second and six inside the red zone right
now at the Bears nineteen yard line. So rough start
for the Bears and the Titans trying to take advantage.
Will Levis isn't doing much of anything, but it's enough
right now. So seven nothing at the end of the
(32:32):
first quarter, Titans over the Bears. So let's see, we
got a lot of games. Just coming to the end
of the first quarter, Colts lead of Texans by a
score of seven to six. Jags now leading the Dolphins
seven to nothing. As we mentioned, the Saints just blowing
out the Panthers seventeen and nothing. Vikings are leading the
(32:52):
Giants seven to three and just got the ball back.
That game is already in the second quarter. Also in
the second quarter right now, Steelers and Falcons tied at three,
are right coming up on the other side. We continue
on our March to Halftime eight games around the NFL
for all the latest scores, to the news, everything you need,
keep it here.
Speaker 3 (33:12):
This is Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 12 (33:14):
Got to give it to Pollard on the left side
of the twenty, to the fifteenth, to the ten, to
the five, to the in zone. Oh, by goodness, touchdown
Titan long distance information.
Speaker 9 (33:27):
Get me Memphis, Tennessee Zone.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
Tony Potlar.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
That's WGFAX one O four point five Titans Radio networked
Titans and now extended early ten to nothing on the
road against the Bears, fourteen minutes to go in the
first half in that game. Once again, this is Red
Zone Radio. Steve Hartin and Rich Orenberger with you. We're
live from the TAIRAQ dot Com studios. The Bills have
gotten on the board with a field goal. They still
(33:53):
trail Arizona by a score of ten to three. Pats
leading the Bengals right now by a score of seven nothing.
These are all second quarter scores. Texans have now taken
the lead twelve to seven over the Colts, and I'm
trying to get an update on the score there. I
know they must have gone for a two point conversion
(34:14):
the touchdown.
Speaker 5 (34:15):
Yeah, Stefan Diggs hauled in a nine yard reception, and
then yeah, they tried to run it in for the
two points and failed. So that's a ten seven or
your twelve seven score.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
All right, So twelve to seven right now, Texans lead
the Colts. Jack's still leading the Dolphins seven to nothing.
Where is the Dolphins offense in this game? Saints blowing
out the Panthers seventeen zip, and the Vikings have the
ball leading seven to three, and they have a first
and ten right now at the Giants eleven yard line.
And so far for the Vikings rich, so far, so good.
(34:47):
Sam Darnold seven for seven, one hundred and twenty two
yards passing.
Speaker 4 (34:54):
Look, Kevin O'Connell is a very talented head coach. He
was able to give Vikings fans the best that we've
seen from Kirk Cousins over his time in Minnesota with
KOC And now we move on to the Sam Donald experience.
After JJ McCarthy goes down with the meniscal tear this
offseason that will keep him out for the year. So
(35:15):
it's Donald's team, Kevin O'Connell's offense. We'll see how it looks.
You heard Kyle Shanahan really talk about Sam Donald in
glowing terms when he was leaving San Francisco while he
was still there backing up Brock Purdy. Maybe maybe there's
a little life left in Sam Donald.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Well, again, he's had had that experience with the forty
nine ers, right, and Kyle Shanahan only had good things
to say about Sam Donald, That's what I'm saying. And
so you know he sort of took a breath after
the Jats in Carolina, all these other stops along the way.
Now eight of eight, one hundred and twenty seven yards
justin Jefferson's first catch of the year, not bad, forty
(35:54):
four yards. So Minnesota looking good right now against the
hapless Chiz. I will say this though, So Daniel Jones
now is in the positive territory in passing yards.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
He's six to ten for forty yards. So there you go.
Speaker 4 (36:06):
Yeah, everybody can calm down now. And it is a
ballgame to the Giants. Credit is a seven to three
ballgame in the what eight twenty five left in the
second quarter, so anything can happen here.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
But Sam Darnold absolutely outdueling Daniel Jones.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
All Right, I am watching Caleb Williams right now in
his debut, and he's got a little bit of the
deer of the headlights. You can just see he's breathing
heavy already, down ten nothing the Bears, you know, at home,
you have four point favorites at home against a Titans
team that no one's predicting. And so far the Bears
(36:42):
offensively have twenty two total yards twenty two total yards
with Caleb Williams at quarterback.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
Well, they spent the first overall draft pick on Caleb
Williams and they're running an offense that's featuring Caleb Williams,
because that's what you do when you have a first
overall draft pick. You're expecting the talent you bring in
to be a franchise changing talent. So far, it's looked
like he's got a lot to learn at this level.
It's early We're only what three minutes into the second
(37:09):
quarter here, but the Bears have been in nappt offensively
so far today.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
Yeah, he has not been able to do anything. He
just threw a deep pass that was overthrown by at
least ten yards.
Speaker 7 (37:18):
So we have a Justin Jefferson touchdown.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Oh I just.
Speaker 5 (37:23):
Sam Donald ten book thirty six for Donald and yeah,
this was on fourth down, goal to go.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
They go for it. He finds Jefferson.
Speaker 7 (37:31):
This is everyone's chance to get on the Sam Donald bus.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
And by the way, Justin Jefferson before this, he still
remains a very talented receiver. Because Sam Donald and him
connected for a forty four yard gain on a deep pass.
He is all the way back too, So yeah, it's
gonna be an interesting Minnesota does here matter?
Speaker 5 (37:48):
I mean, Jefferson has made massive yardage and touchdowns with
worst quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
By the way, any chance the g men had of
winning today went out the window when I picked him yesterday,
as and as I said, but for an upset, the
GM man will get it done.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
I more about these uniforms there.
Speaker 5 (38:07):
I didn't even know they were wearing these, like Wolf
Michigan knockoff wing helmets they're awful.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
Yeah, well, that's gonna be the kind of season it's
going to be for the Giants. You don't think they
miss having a Saquon Barkley after his one hundred and
nine yards rushing three touchdown day for the Eagles. M
hm yeah, yeah, yeah, I easily have had a fourth
in that game too, exactly.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
Saquon Barkley, as it turns out, may have been one
of the most impactful free agent signings, and it was
really kind of under the raider because of how dismal
the season was for the New York Giants and also
the fact that his injuries led to some of the
lack of success they had offensively. The cupboards were bare
other than Saquon Barkley on that offense, I understand that,
(38:48):
but still going to Philadelphia, his home state, representing a
team he rooted for growing up, and feeling at home
in Nick Sirianni's offense, he looks like a renewed, refreshed player.
And that was down in Brazil, you know, I mean,
that's that's a place where you've never played before.
Speaker 3 (39:08):
It's a new team.
Speaker 4 (39:09):
There's a lot of things, a lot of adjustments you
need to make, and for him to look that comfortable,
that bodes extremely well for the Philadelphia Eagles season.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
All right, one team, another team really struggling today at home,
the Cincinnati Bengals. We're inside nine minutes to go in
the half. They have forty three total yards. Right, total yards,
Cincinnati Bengals with a healthy Joe Burrow. They are doing
nothing well offensively. Jamar Chase, well, one catch two yards.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
So all of a.
Speaker 4 (39:38):
Sudden, you say that, and we got Zack Moss deep
into New England territory of stree.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
I get an a team either way.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
This is single time you speak negatively about a team
while they start driving. So now we have called the
wake up call the Bengals on the Patriots twenty six
yard line. High snapped there to Euro but he is
starting to carve up this Patriots defense.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
Well, he's occur in this game.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
He's seven of eight passing, but only has forty five
yards passing, so they have not been able to get
down the field. And Jamar Chase has one catch for
two yards. That's not what you're looking for. By the way,
he will start the season without a new contract. I
believe that's correct. In fact, he's playing in this game
without a contract. We got much more coming up, folks,
as we head to halftime of eight games around the
(40:25):
National Football League. For all the coverage you need to
keep it right here. More coming up on Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 15 (40:30):
Jefferson wide left now, Jones heads up to the right,
four down pass to the end zone coding.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Sam Darnold putting on a show just.
Speaker 15 (40:42):
Found justin Jefferson m the Minnesota Vikings lead thirteen to three.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
That's k Fan one hundred point three FM Vikings Radio

bring a man who's returning this year after a year off. Indeed,
Mike Pereira, mister officiating, the man that knows all the
rules around the NFL joins us once again.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
Mike, it's great to catch up with you again. How
are you?
Speaker 11 (41:33):
I am great. It was unusual being on the pup list.
I'm not used to being on the pup list, but
being physically unable to perform last year. So I'm now
sitting in the press box in Cleveland or in the
broadcast booth in Cleveland, getting ready to go, and I'm
just so excited to be back in fallved with the
game again.
Speaker 2 (41:51):
Yeah, and of course you're going to be partner with
Tom Brady's debut as an announcer in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (41:57):
How's that going to be, Mike?
Speaker 11 (41:59):
Well, I'll I'll get a close hand look because I'll
be standing right next to him. You know, people people
accused us of over protecting Tom Brady and and now
I'm here to protect him again when it comes to rules.
Speaker 3 (42:10):
Yeah, I.
Speaker 11 (42:12):
Got to make sure he says the right thing.
Speaker 4 (42:14):
How many roughing the broadcasters are you going to hand out?
Just like his whole career as a passer.
Speaker 11 (42:22):
He actually challenged me in our meeting yesterday when you
know when he said, when did they start this protection?
You know, when did that start? I said, when you
became the quarterback of the New England paper. And he goes, no,
he said, I got the least amount of rubbing the
passers called against me. I mean, he said, And I said,
but yeah, but you always brag about you got rid
(42:43):
of the ball so quickly, so nobody was around you,
you know. And so we've we've had we've had a
lot of fun talking about that. And and I can't
wait to uh see him and watch him get going
because his preparation is off the charts. I've never seen
anything like that, and so it's going to be fun
to see, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
And of course that'll be the Cowboys Browns game coming
up a little bit later, Mike. Obviously, one of the
big stories going into this NFL season is the new
kickoff rule. The first two games on Thursday Friday, only
five of twenty four kickoffs or actually returned. That was
a lower percentage than previous How do you think this
is going to shake out? What was the thought behind
(43:24):
this process and how do you think it actually will
play out?
Speaker 11 (43:29):
Well, I mean, obviously the thought behind it is to
decrease the number of injuries and yet increase the number
of returns. And they looked at what the XFL did.
They made some tweaks to that, and I think the
one thing that seems to become apparent to me is
and I thought this really the whole way is that
when you look at the preseason and you can't really
(43:51):
judge anything by the preseason, if there's one thing, it
might be the average drive start, which turned out to
be the twenty nine yard line. And so if you
look at that and you think about kicking it deep
in the end zone and really only giving up one
yard to put the ball at the thirty, you know,
we're not going to see anything like we saw in
the preseason. We're almost eighty percent of kickoffs who were returned,
(44:13):
you know. I think realistically they're hopeful that they can
get forty percent return they versus twenty two percent last year.
So we're going to see more. But I kind of
think that we're not going to be talking much about it,
quite frankly, and once everybody gets over the newness of
seeing on television and seeing how they line up, I
(44:34):
think we're going to have the preponderance of kickoffs be touchbacks,
and so it's not going to be very effective. I
think it would be wise if they would have moved
the touchback spot to the thirty five. Then it would
have really then forced more kickoff returns. But they didn't
make the change, and I don't think they will make
the change because you don't really change your rule during
(44:55):
the middle of the season. We did it once in
my time there. It was a timing rule that really
had to do going into the playoffs, not during the
regular season. So I think we're stuck with what we got.
We'll see more, which is good. I think every time
the team gets, you know, gets a touchdown returned against
them or a long return, I think they'll go back
(45:16):
to kick into the end zone. So it's gonna be
interesting and we will see more, but we won't see
in my mind, that.
Speaker 4 (45:22):
Many NFL rules analyst Mike Periri joining us on the
broadcast today. He is going to be on the call
with Tom Brady ahead of Brown's Cowboys.
Speaker 11 (45:32):
Here.
Speaker 4 (45:32):
He's in the press box in Cleveland as we speak
to him. Hey, I'm sure you watched the Thursday night
football game, the opener Kansas City Chiefs, the Super Bowl
champs hosting the Ravens. There were a lot of formational
errors made by the Ravens I think the Kansas City
Chiefs got called from one of them. Was this a
point of emphasis this offseason? Why were there so many
(45:53):
formation calls in that game?
Speaker 11 (45:57):
You know, it struck me to be really strange, because, yes,
it is a point of emphasis talking about formations. But
when you make your point about a point of emphasis,
you do it in the preseason. You know, we have
points of emphasis every year. I was in charge of
the league officialing department, and people would say to me,
there'd be all these called in the preseason, and then
they would say to me, Okay, I get it, you're
(46:18):
calling them in the preseason, but are you going to
lay off of them in the regular season. I would
lie through my teeth and say, oh no, we're going
to call it all the way through the same way,
and when in reality, you're making that point in the preseason.
I think what happened here since they didn't do it
in the preseason, I think it shocked everybody, including the league.
And they've met about it already and talked about it
(46:41):
going into this weekend these games, and you know they're
going to address really address it, not so technically, and
they're going to concern themselves more with the lineman that's
in a two point stand and making sure that his
helmet at least is not as he could be. His
helmet could be, his knee, could be, his chest. Got
to break the rear most part is their philosophy of
(47:02):
the way they're going to look at it has to
break the rear most part of the center, not the
line drawn through the waistline. So what's going to happen immediately?
We're not going to have this again. I mean they
were over technical in that first game, and then you
saw it in the second game when we were all
in Brazil watching the game of Brazil. It wasn't really
called the same way. League doesn't want this. I mean,
(47:23):
they want to have the guideline and they want to
have some semblance of a legal formation, but not to
the point where you're talking about five inches lined behind,
you know, lined up behind the line that draws through
the waistline of the snapper or the rear most part
of the center. So it's something I think that the
league learned that they didn't like when they saw it,
(47:45):
and they've already made an alteration.
Speaker 2 (47:46):
Yeah, I think my frustration watching that from the Ravens
standpoint is I not. Then once the Chiefs got the ball,
I'm watching where their tackles are lined up. They seem
to be in the exact same spot where the Ravens
tackles were when they were getting called for, and they
weren't calling anything against the Chiefs. And so again, if
you're going to harp on a rule, as technical as
(48:08):
that may be, you got to make it equal for
both sides, right.
Speaker 11 (48:12):
And again, let's we don't want any more penalties than
we have to have. We all hate penalties, even me. Now,
the thing is it's kind of a double edged sword too,
because you know, the league, we've always let the guys
cheat a little bit. Why do we let these linemen cheek?
Why do we keep let the tackles cheat because we
don't want the quarterback hit anymore that they have to.
(48:32):
So you get you get a left tackle that's going
to get the speed against the speed rusher on the outside.
You give them a little bit of leeway so he
can get to that guy. And so then all of
a sudden, when you make this change like this, you're
you're worried about not only the amount of penalties, but
then the quarterback being hit more than he needs to
be hit when there's not really that grade of an
(48:54):
advantage gain. So if they addressed it and the clubs
were told, if they addressed it the way that I
talked about, then I don't think we're going to see
much for the rest of the weekend.
Speaker 2 (49:07):
So, Mike, I tell you what, as we look at
the NFL right now in twenty twenty four, the growth
of this league, you've seen it for many, many years, decades,
talk a little bit about just the overall pressures on
officiating these days. We've talked for years about full time officiating,
how they can get it better.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
Obviously, the scrutiny is greater than ever.
Speaker 2 (49:31):
Give us an overall evaluation, especially since last year, you know,
you were sort of on the sidelines with your you know,
physically unable to perform list. Taking a step back and
just sort of observing where we are with officiating in
the NFL right now.
Speaker 11 (49:46):
Well, it's a difficult question because if I if I
watch and I kind of think about the staff in general,
I just I just don't think is as good. It's
as good as it used to be. I mean, I
think they have the best officials in the country. I
do believe that coming out of college. But they're so
(50:06):
protected by instant replay now who gets involved in so
many of the calls that they in many cases have
become somewhat tentative. I mean I watched one play earlier,
just a while ago, on a face mask, an offensive
face mask on alignment, and there was like a sixty
second discussion, And in my mind, you know, they although
(50:29):
they're not really supposed to, they could have been listening
to the replay and I trying to verify New York
although New York most of that kind of stuff doesn't
give that input. But to me, it's just created a
situation where, you know, the officials don't have all the
responsibility that we used to have on the field. I mean,
if we threw a pass interference call, it was our
(50:50):
responsibility the person that called it to make sure they
had the proper yard line to get the flag to
the proper yard line. Now you get the reply, going
flag was it to the I was at the thirty
two yard line. They're in the guy's ears. A guy
went out of bounds at the nineteen, not the twenty
move of all forward. You're messing with the psyche of
the official when you do that. And also it's just
(51:11):
again his responsibility, which will lead him to become a
little tentative. And let's face it, too, the scrutiny is
a little bit more intense as we looked at the
expansion of gambling and the legality of gambling. So that's
there too. We had instances of threats and those types
of things before gambling was then legalized in so many states,
(51:34):
and now it gets worse. So the pressure, the pressure
is higher, and the technology is more involved. So I
think it affects the psyche on the field of the officials.
But on the other hand, and I guess this should
be the thing we're most concerned about, right is they
get more calls, right, I mean, that's what replay is
(51:56):
designed to do, is to get more calls. Right up.
You look at them and you think about the opening
nine and we're dealing with an inch, We're dealing with
a toe on the line, an inch which changes the
result of the ball game. And so had we not
had that camera, right, they would have said and didn't
have replay, it would have been the biggest controversy starting
(52:20):
out in the first game of the season. Ever, So
it's you know, it's really there's the positive side of
the negative side. But once we let technology in then
it's not going away and it's only going to get
involved more so this year. As you're watching games today,
if there's a call or roughing the passer for a
(52:40):
hit to the header neck area, replay can look at
that and if there's no contact to the header neck area,
it is down in the upper chest and they can
reverse that. They can do it with an assist. They
can have the replay guys say no if they say
that the ball got back to the line of scrimmage
on a quarterback passed when the quarterback got out of
the pocket, but it didn't. They can assist getting more
(53:00):
involved in what I've always said we should have as
a sky judge, and it's headed more that direction to
make some of those changes. So overall we're fine. It's
just a I wish that the game we could leave
the game as much as we can on the field
and not move it. First of all, moving it into
(53:21):
the press box when replay came back at ninety nine
and now to New York where New York is making
all the decisions. But it's where we're at.
Speaker 3 (53:28):
Well, Mike have a great return.
Speaker 2 (53:31):
By the way, check out for the deflated mic of
Tom Brady. We're not sure about that. Make sure that's
inflated at the right level. Mike, have a great game.
Thanks so much. We always enjoy the.
Speaker 3 (53:41):
Time you got to Steve. Take care, all right. That's
Mike Pereira. Johnny is there. All right.
Speaker 2 (53:47):
We got a lot of scores to update you on
very quickly around the NFL. Let's go to the scoreboard.
We're close to halftime of much of these games. Falcons
leading the Steelers ten and six, Cardinals seventeenth three lead
on the road against the Bills. Bills are in the
red zone inside a minute to go. Titans seventeen nothing
(54:08):
over the Bears, Pats seven nothing over the Bengals. Texans
twelve to seven over the Colts. How about the Jaguars
fourteen nothing on the road against the Dolphins. Saint's blowing
out the Panthers twenty three zip, Vikings fourteen to three
over the Giants. All approaching halftime. Much more coming up.
This is red zone radio.
Speaker 3 (54:27):
Cousins in motion, or puts up Pitts a motion of
the left. Here's Kurt looking back. Now he'll bail to
the left, got the thrown TD touchdown. Atlanta leads and
Tyle Pitts.
Speaker 2 (54:40):
Pett's ninety two nine in the game Falcons Radio Network
and the touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins Kyle Pitts giving
the Falcons a ten to nine lead over Pittsburgh. That
game is at halftime once again. This is Red Zone Radio.
Steve Hartman and Rich Ornberger with you. We are live
from the tire rack dot Com studios and Rich I
(55:03):
got a call attention to a game that still has
a minute to go.
Speaker 3 (55:06):
In the half.
Speaker 2 (55:08):
Saints thirty Panthers nothing. Yeah, thirty to nothing. Stinky Bryce
Young in his return to the game, is two of
six for eighteen yards and a pick. That is a
passer rating of two point eight. They have thirty four
(55:29):
total yards in this game. The Saints have two hundred
and twenty nine total yards. Derek Carr twelve of sixteen,
one hundred and twenty one yards, three touchdowns, no picks.
Speaker 3 (55:42):
So as bad as the Panthers were last.
Speaker 2 (55:45):
Year, they have one net yard passing in the first
half of this first game.
Speaker 3 (55:52):
Well, I will say.
Speaker 4 (55:53):
This, we knew what kind of season it was gonna
be for the Carolina Panthers. Based on the infra we
had last year, it's going to be basically rookie year
two point zero for Bryce Young. That team, there was
nobody helping him. They fired the head coach in the
(56:14):
middle of the season, and it felt like he was
left for dead by the end of the year.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
Though.
Speaker 4 (56:19):
That was one of the most depressing, unfortuitous starts to
any rookie starting quarterback we've seen in the NFL in
a long long time. So let's hope that this is
the early lumps and they can put something together because
he showed so much promise at Alabama. Undersized, I get it,
but so is Kyler Murray. Not the greatest arm in
(56:39):
the game. But tongue of Vloa has an NFL career
and a good one. So I mean, we've seen quarterbacks
compensate for things that they lack at the NFL level
and have success. But it feels it feels really desperate
for Carolina right now. Let's hope that these are the
building block days where they'll look back and laugh. Otherwise
(57:00):
it could be a short it could be a short
starting career for Bryce Young.
Speaker 3 (57:04):
All Right.
Speaker 2 (57:04):
The Miami Dolphins have scored with a minute to go
in the half. So they now trail the Jaguars fourteen
to seven.
Speaker 4 (57:13):
How did they get on the board because Tyreek Hill
got them down to about the one yard I think.
Speaker 2 (57:17):
It was a short run by eight Chan Chan from
a few yards out.
Speaker 3 (57:21):
Yeah, channel and one yarded his season off to the races.
Speaker 4 (57:24):
He looks very dynamic out of the backfield and it
was sad to see him miss so much time last year.
Speaker 3 (57:30):
But he is explosive.
Speaker 2 (57:32):
Well, here's speaking of explosive, Tyreek Hill most explosive receiver
in the NFL. His long reception so far ten yards.
So they have not been able to get the big
play to Tyreek Hill, which seemed.
Speaker 3 (57:44):
To be almost every time.
Speaker 5 (57:46):
I have to give it out the last years corners.
That is a very tough secondary, right, Yeah, they're a
good group defensively.
Speaker 4 (57:53):
Last year actually, the Jaguars hung tough in a lot
of games that they played. They weren't they weren't a
complete team, especially up front on the offensive line. They
needed help offensively for Trevor Lawrence. But even still, the
Jaguars have been in the mix over the past couple
of seasons. Here playoff team back in twenty twenty two.
They just signed Trevor Lawrence to that giant deal, looking
(58:16):
to get the most out of him, the very most
out of him, especially this year when you can keep
the cap hit a little bit lower and build around him.
Speaker 2 (58:24):
All right, halftime break up the Patriots ten nothing. Patriots
at the half on the road against the Bengals. The
Bengals have seventy seven total yards in this half. How
about Jamar Chase two catches, seven yards, Joe Burrow ten
of thirteen. Okay, only seventy yards passing. Jacoby Brissette has
(58:48):
more yards passing in the first half against the Bengals.
Who could have seen the Bengals get shut out in
the first half. And this gets back we were talking
about this off air, how little these teams utilize the
preseason to get in game action. And I ask you,
(59:08):
as a former NFL player, let me say this, former
NFL star, thank you, thank someone Ie the Well actually
actually actually a man who played a lot of preseason football.
Speaker 3 (59:20):
How about that? Damn right it?
Speaker 2 (59:21):
But I mean we know the Chiefs do. And the
Chiefs look dynamoled. Their offense came out homme and right
out of the box in that game against the Ravens.
Should teams reevaluate how much time their number one offenses
are intact on the field in the preseason.
Speaker 4 (59:38):
Well, you should always evaluate and reevaluate and evaluate some
more what you're doing.
Speaker 3 (59:43):
It's called self scouting.
Speaker 4 (59:44):
And so if there is a team or teams that
are having success with a certain formula, it's okay to copy.
Speaker 11 (59:51):
Right.
Speaker 4 (59:51):
This isn't an exam where the substitute teacher of the
test proctor is going to be walking the aisles and
telling you to keep your eyes on your own paper.
Speaker 3 (59:59):
That's not how this works. In the NFL. It is
a copycat league.
Speaker 4 (01:00:02):
So if a team is having success doing that, then
guess what, maybe you should think or consider doing that.
And we see it all the time with offensive schemes,
defensive strategies. When it comes to personnel decision making in
the preseason, let's put it this way. What you risk
is injury, We're aware of that. What you gain, though,
is experience, having an opportunity for your team to knock
(01:00:26):
the rust off their shoulder pads and have their first
hits under their belt before the preseason ends and the
regular season begins. It's tough to get back into football shape.
The preseason does help you there, and it's tough to
wrap your head around playing in a stadium in front
of fans after practicing largely behind closed doors on empty
practice fields for the majority of the preseason. So yeah, Look,
(01:00:49):
if the Chiefs are out there practicing and they've won
back to back Super Bowls and they potentially can go
on to win their third, and they've got their starters
in the game, I would give it some pause if
you're a head coach around the league and you haven't
had success for a little while and think, hey, maybe
we should do it Andy Reid and the best team
on the planet is doing all right.
Speaker 2 (01:01:07):
Best quarterback for a half, how about Kyler Murray? Yes,
sixteen of nineteen, one hundred and thirty one yards, one
touchdown pass. He's also run for twenty eight yards. And
here's an interesting note. As the Cardinals have a seventeen
to ten lead at the half home on the road
against the Bills.
Speaker 3 (01:01:23):
We're not going to do Sam Darnold to Racer here,
are we? Well?
Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
Hold on, hold on, hold on. But here's the thing
about Arizona. They've had eight different receivers in the first half.
Marvin Harrison Junior one catch four yards, so you know
that's going to upgrade.
Speaker 3 (01:01:36):
So this Arizona offense.
Speaker 2 (01:01:38):
With a fully recovered, fully loaded Kyler Murray, now we
got to take a step back because you look, you
look at that division right now, that's an interesting division
with the Niners, the Seahawks, the Rams. We talked about
in our predictions and then we all sort of took
a step back, did we not in Arizona? Like, I'm
not quite sure what we have with Arizona. Half they
(01:02:00):
look pretty good.
Speaker 4 (01:02:01):
Yeah, they're tricky right when you think about what the
what the Arizona Cardinals will be this season, because again,
last season, they were an extremely tough out. They were
a team that played a lot of really good teams,
really really tough, and they won some games that inarguably
they probably shouldn't have.
Speaker 3 (01:02:18):
And so I looked at them.
Speaker 4 (01:02:19):
And during our preseason selections, I said, this looks like
a seven win team to me. Are they going to
be above five hundred? Probably not? But can I can
I squint and see Kyler Murray having a better year.
Marvin Harrison Junior, with all the hype, could he improve
this offense, this defense with Gannon at the Helm after
having that successful campaign as a DC with Philadelphia Eagle
(01:02:40):
leading them all the way to the Super Bowl. He's
the head man there and that defense is tough. So yeah,
I could see this being a much improved Cardinals team.
Speaker 2 (01:02:48):
By the way, Chris screaming out, what about Sam Donald
thirteen to fourteen, hundred and fifty one yards and a touchdown,
I'm sorry, he's playing.
Speaker 3 (01:02:54):
The g Men.
Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
That's right, Okay, Kyler Murray's on the road against the
Buffalo bill.
Speaker 7 (01:02:59):
You have to consider Sam Darnold also has to look
at these Giants jerseys while he's playing.
Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
Well, that is true.
Speaker 7 (01:03:03):
Those he's trying not to screen every time he opens
his door.
Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
Actually throwback if you can believe the Giants uniforms look
like that.
Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
They look like Michigan.
Speaker 7 (01:03:14):
Uh in the trash.
Speaker 2 (01:03:15):
Let's find out what is trending right now. This man
has been busy as well keeping track of everything. We
can sort of take a breath.
Speaker 5 (01:03:22):
With Gates at half time now, Yeah, everything is at
halftime now. With Carolina getting on the board with a
field goal thirty to three in New Orleans, I'm back
here they come, here come the Panthers.
Speaker 8 (01:03:36):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (01:03:36):
David Carr twelve of sixteen, one hundred and twenty one yards,
three touchdowns through the air. Three different receivers have caught
touchdown passes for the Saints to get back to the
Cardinals and the Bills. Yes, that was probably the most
surprising score line for a while. It was seventeen to
three Bills, though able to mount some offense going into
the locker room.
Speaker 16 (01:03:55):
It is the second of three on the seven dropped
it to the right of Allen in the shotgun.
Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
Here's the snap hand off.
Speaker 15 (01:04:01):
No, it's a keeper by Allen looking for.
Speaker 16 (01:04:03):
The pylon, leaps for the goal line and he's in
touch out Buffalo Allen win a seven yard touchdown run.
Speaker 5 (01:04:12):
That's from WGR five point fifty Bills Radio network. Bills
have been okay offensively. There's one stripsack turnover. They just
haven't had the ball. Time of possession twenty minutes to
ten minutes in favor of Arizona seventeen to ten at
the break in Buffalo. Tennessee up seventeen to three on
the Bears. In Chicago, Santos got a field goal in
the final thirty seconds to get the Bears on the board.
Speaker 3 (01:04:34):
Atlanta up ten to nine on the Steelers.
Speaker 5 (01:04:37):
Kyle Pitts hauling in a touchdown from Kirk Cousins Boswell
at trio of field goals for Pittsburgh justin fields eleven
of thirteen. All right, but only eighty three yards. It's
been dink and dunk today for Pittsburgh. New England ten
to nothing. They lead the Bengals and they have just
kicked on for the second half.
Speaker 3 (01:04:56):
There.
Speaker 5 (01:04:56):
Bengals look like they were gonna have a touchdown, but
a fumble the goal line kept them off the board.
Speaker 3 (01:05:02):
Texans up twelve to seven on the Colts.
Speaker 5 (01:05:04):
Stefan Diggs has a touchdown, catching this one in his
debut for Houston. Jacksonville got a field goal at the
halftime gun, so they lead seventeen to seven. On the Dolphins.
Tyreek Hill is playing after he was detained getting to
the stadium for reckless driving. Miami Dade Police Department says
that they have requested a review of that detainment, including
(01:05:25):
bodycam footage.
Speaker 3 (01:05:27):
By the way, Jalen Waddle has returned.
Speaker 5 (01:05:28):
He left earlier after being evaluated for a concussion. So
a lot going on there for the Dolphins and he
has the vikings on top of the Giants fourteen to three.
Sam Darnold just the one in completion one hundred and
fifty one yards and one touchdown off the field, Cowboys
and Dak Prescott agreeing to a four year, two hundred
and forty million dollar extension. Two hundred and thirty one
(01:05:49):
million in guaranteed money makes him the highest paid player
in NFL history. It was announced Kendrick Lamar will perform
the halftime show at the upcoming Super Bowl in New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
Another l for Drake.
Speaker 5 (01:06:00):
And then in college football, we got a new top
twenty five, six of the top seven out of the SEC.
Georgia one, Texas leap frog in Ohio state for two
Buck Guys, three Alabama, four, Ole, miss five, Missouri up
to six, Tennessee up to seven, Notre Dame tumble down
to eighteen, and coming in at number twenty five. Your
Northern Illinois Huskies after that upset win yesterday. And finally
(01:06:23):
we do have the US Open Men's final just underway.
Yonick Center an early lead on Taylor Fritz.
Speaker 2 (01:06:28):
Back to you, Yeah, watching that Northern Illinois coach crying
after being interviewed after the game, first time in school
history they'd ever beaten a top ten team.
Speaker 3 (01:06:38):
Care youre Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (01:06:39):
Open your season with an oppressive road victory against Texas
A and M. And you come home and lose to
Northern Illinois.
Speaker 3 (01:06:47):
Oh crazy?
Speaker 4 (01:06:49):
Okay, So I don't know how you get that win
in college station and you turn around do that. Other
than this, it's a brand new season in college football. Oregon,
who's a top five team barely hung on to win
against Boise.
Speaker 3 (01:07:02):
Will they no longer a top five team.
Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
The Crimson Tide was going toe to toe with the
USF Bulls all the way into the fourth quarter. Is
a fourteen thirteen ball game at the start of the
fourth quarter. Alabama ended up blowing them out in the end,
But my goodness, that was a type ball game. We've
seen this every week so far. Week's zero all the
way through through week two. Now it's it is a
(01:07:24):
different landscape out there in college football, the NIL, the
transfer portal being wide open. Look out, you can get
snuck up on anywhere.
Speaker 2 (01:07:32):
Well again, chemistry, I mean, that's Dabos Sweeney's reasoning for
not being involved in the transfer portal. He says, if
I just bring in twenty five thirty guys from different programs,
new guys every year.
Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
I'm not gonna have any chemistry on the field.
Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
You also having no talent on the field, because the
talent is in that transfer portal.
Speaker 3 (01:07:50):
I'm watching.
Speaker 2 (01:07:51):
I'm looking at the box score right now on the
Titans Bears game. Caleb Williams debut eight to fourteen, fifty
three yards. He did take one really bad sack, a
nineteen yard sack that at the time took the Bears
out of field goal arrange. But where's the Bears running game?
Deandre's swift five carries six yards? Yea nothing well that
(01:08:12):
Bears offense. If you're Caleb Williams, you got to have
a running game. Otherwise obviously going to key on you
and you're gonna make rookie mistakes no matter how talented
you are. So I don't know what. I don't know
what the fascination was Eberflus. He got a reprieve obviously
for another year, as it didn't work out with Justin Fields.
(01:08:33):
Maybe they thought he'd be a better fit with Caleb Williams.
But I mean, you know what, Eberflus was favored to
be Coach of the Year. I think he was also
favored to be the first coach fired. I wonder what
kind of short leash the Bears have on eber Flues
as a lame duck coach, whether or not he'll survive
the season if the Bears struggle early.
Speaker 4 (01:08:55):
Well, I mean it is very possible, if not conceivable,
that he will be fired before the end of the
first season that Caleb Williams is in the NFL if
things continue to look like it has in the first
half for the remainder of the opening of this season.
But let's slow down, Okay, this is Caleb Williams' first
(01:09:16):
minutes playing significant football in the NFL. Things have not
looked good and and halftime is an important adjustment period,
so we'll see what they look like in the second half.
Am I willing to write off anybody after seeing them
for two quarters of football?
Speaker 10 (01:09:30):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:09:31):
In fact, I think that you should wait years before
giving the full scouting report on whether or not you
think a guy is going to be worth his salt
at the league level.
Speaker 3 (01:09:39):
And so we'll see. But so far out the gates,
he looks wildly unprepared for this game.
Speaker 7 (01:09:44):
Caub Also, he had a ball dropped in the end
zone by Keenan Allen, which shouldn't happen that often. So yeah,
that's true too. Look, there have been missing a great
pass all over the field. Keenan Allen, of all people,
dropped it.
Speaker 4 (01:09:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:09:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
Speaking of Keenan Allen, his former team, the Chargers. The
Jim Harbaugh Era will open later on as they host
the Raiders. And again, the Chargers did not look good
in the preseason. Justin Herbert missed the entire preseason with
that foot injury. They have less experience at wide receiver
(01:10:16):
than any team in this league. And you're going against
Gardner Minshew, you know. I mean, even with that, if
you look at the quarterback matchup of this game, Justin
Herbert versus Gardner Minshew, and the game being at SOFI Stadium,
it should be a good day for the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
But again, this is a team that is hard to
read right now.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
And I just got a sense throughout the preseason a
little sense of frustration from Jim Harbaugh, maybe realizing they
got a lot more work to do than I maybe
thought I had when I signed up for this job.
Speaker 3 (01:10:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:10:49):
Well, I will say this, his comments before this game
kind of feel like all you need to know. He said, Hey,
it feels like we're jumping out of a plane and
we just hope our parachutes open. It really is a
direct quote to Jim Harbaugh this week leading up to
this matchup, and maybe he's trying to underrate his team
(01:11:09):
so that you don't give bolton board material for the Raiders.
You don't want to come in overly confident. But this
is going to be a game that's going to highlight
a couple of things. A what do the Chargers look
like with a revamped offense featuring the run game like
we assume it would, Greg Roman the new coordinator, and
a lot of changes made to the offensive skill they
(01:11:30):
basically wipe the slate clean. Mike Williams. No Keenan Allen.
We just mentioned he's playing with Kayleb Williams in Chicago
right now. No Austin Eckler. He got shipped out in
free agency to the Commanders. And so you bring in JK. Dobbins,
you bring in Gus Edwards, you bring in Greg Roman.
You assume you're going to feature the run in the
play action pass. What does that look like? Joe Alt
(01:11:52):
a new addition to the offensive line, their first rounder
high in the draft, he's going to be battling against
Max Crosby all game long. Max Crosby, in my opinion,
is one of the best pass rushers.
Speaker 3 (01:12:03):
In the game. He doesn't get nearly enough credit for
what he does.
Speaker 2 (01:12:07):
That's a guy whose motor runs one hundred miles an
hour of the entire game.
Speaker 3 (01:12:11):
So we'll see what that matchup looks like. There's a
lot of intrigue here. And also, by the way, Antonio
Pierce is a first time head coach.
Speaker 4 (01:12:17):
I get it, he was an interim last year, but
this is his rookie season. What does it look like
when the season kicks off with him at the helm.
The players stood up for him. They wanted him to
be named the guy. So Mark Mark Davis, the owner
of the Raiders, said he's our guy.
Speaker 3 (01:12:32):
So let's see what you do with the opportunity, Antonio.
Speaker 2 (01:12:34):
All Right, I saw Chris raise his hands in the air.
Speaker 7 (01:12:37):
We have an early We have an early clubhouse leader
for NFL MVP. You guys, it's Sam Darnald. Sam Donks
just scored another touchdown.
Speaker 2 (01:12:45):
Wow Donalder against the Mighty g Man. So Sam Darnold
now is let's get an update on his numbers. Fifteen
of seventeen, one hundred and eighty one yards, two touchdowns,
no picks. A perfect passer rating is one fifty eight
to three. He's at one fifty point two.
Speaker 3 (01:13:07):
Guys.
Speaker 5 (01:13:07):
This was a strike too. Like Naylor was out there
ready to go step back into the ends.
Speaker 3 (01:13:13):
This was beautiful all right.
Speaker 2 (01:13:15):
Coming up, by the way, the Bills are looking to
even up their game against the Cardinals. They have a
second down at the Arizona eleven yard line as we
are into third quarter. Action will continue update you around
the NFL. We got second half's underway. This is Red
Zone Radio.
Speaker 16 (01:13:30):
On a third and ten play clock down to five.
Speaker 3 (01:13:33):
Here's a snap, another blitz down.
Speaker 16 (01:13:35):
The middle, touchdown maccollins, an eleven yard touchdown strike from
Allen to Hollins, and the barefoot Wonder scores from eleven
yards out.
Speaker 2 (01:13:48):
That's WGR five to fifty Bills Radio Network, and the
Bills have tied it up against the Cardinals once trailing
seventeen to three. We are tied at seventeen nine minutes
to go in the third in that game. This is
Red Zone Radio. Steve Hartman and Rich Ormberger with you.
We are live from the Tire rack dot Com Studios.
All right, so a little update of what's going on
(01:14:10):
score wise around the NFL. Falcons lead the Steelers ten
to nine. That's been holding steady inside timins to go
in the third. We mentioned the seventeen all tie between
the Bills and the Cards. Titans still lead the Bears
seventeen to three, twelve and a half minutes to go
in the third. We'll get back to that game in
a moment. How about the Patriots. They have up their
lead thirteen zip and they have the ball against the Bengals.
(01:14:34):
Bengals have not scored with seven minutes to go in
the third quarter. At home, Saints hanging on barely thirty
to three over the Panthers just started the.
Speaker 3 (01:14:44):
Second half and in that game.
Speaker 2 (01:14:46):
And then of course Sam Darnold, as we mentioned, is
just lighting up the g Men twenty one to three.
Vikings lead the Giants and one other score. I want
to get to Texans hanging on right now. They lead
fifteen to s and we really haven't talked much about CJ.
Stroud in this game, but CJ. Stroud has played extremely well.
(01:15:07):
Fifteen of twenty one hundred and seventy three yards a
touchdown and no picks. On the other side, Anthony Richardson
had one big pass play, but outside of that mediocre
six or twelve ninety three yards, a touchdown and a pick.
Looks like CJ. Stroud picking up where he left off
last season.
Speaker 4 (01:15:23):
Anthony Richardson trying to dust off the injury and the
lack of experience. I saw a stat and I'm not
one hundred percent where I saw from. So forgive me
if this is misstated, but it said that Anthony Richardson
has only started seventeen games since high school.
Speaker 3 (01:15:42):
Yeah, think about that.
Speaker 4 (01:15:43):
He was a one year starter in college, so you're
you're second year starter in the NFL. You have such
limited experience going out there and actually playing football on
a Sunday or a Saturday at the college football level.
It doesn't, It doesn't. It's registers to me.
Speaker 3 (01:16:01):
Is very clear.
Speaker 4 (01:16:01):
When you are going after a quarterback in the draft,
you have to look at their talent, there's no doubt,
but you also have to look at their experience because,
like anything else, the more life experience you have, the
more wisdom you have. The more game experience you have,
the more wisdom you have, you're able to see more,
do more with the input because you've been there and
done it so many times over.
Speaker 2 (01:16:23):
I know athleticism is a big part of the game,
but some of the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL history
were not the greatest athletes.
Speaker 3 (01:16:30):
That's correct.
Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
Hayton Manny was not the greatest athlete. Tom Brady wasn't
the greatest athlete. Brock Perty is not one of the
greatest athletes. You need two things. Two things you have
to have to be an elite quarterback. Hey, you have
to throw the ball accurately yep. And secondly, you need
to be able to decipher information instantaneously when the ball
(01:16:50):
is snapped. You have to have an immediate read on
what to do with the ball, where to throw the ball,
maybe throw the ball away, eat the ball, whatever it is.
Speaker 3 (01:16:59):
You have to make these split decisions.
Speaker 2 (01:17:02):
If you can't do both of those things, it's impossible
for you to be an elite quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:17:07):
There is absolutely no doubt about that. Processing is everything
they call it. Can you play at game speed, that's it? Okay, so,
and by the way, that is whatever that means. So,
if you're playing against the Baltimore Ravens or the New
York Jets defense, who are touted as some of the
best defense in the NFL, or if you're playing against
the dregs of the NFL, it does not matter. Can
(01:17:29):
you play at game speed if you can't, if you
can't process against a live rush, against defenders who are moving,
not seven on seven, not skeleton at practice, not when
the conditions are perfect.
Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
Yeah, full speed in a real game. Fans bearing down
on you, the headset cuts out, whatever it may be.
Can you play a game speed and the players who
can cognitively get there, those are the players who have
the most success in this league. Absolutely so.
Speaker 2 (01:17:57):
Again we see the quarterbacks suddenly emerge, even if they're
not the best athletes. Steelers have now taken the lead
twelve to ten against the Falcons in Atlanta on a
field goal boswell of fifty six yardfield league, we've had
a lot of fifty plus yard field goals today. Well,
listen that Sterburns had a couple of them already.
Speaker 4 (01:18:16):
That's the reason why that early sack that Caleb Williams
took in the first quarter of this Bears Titans game
was so costly because you're out at your opponent's thirty
yard line. It's a guaranteed. It's a guarantee three points
at least on that drive. You can't take a nineteen
yard sack or whatever it was, knock yourself back to
midfield because you're sacrificing actual points on the board. Titans,
(01:18:37):
by the way, on the road in Chicago leading seventeen
to three against Caleb Williams Bears.
Speaker 2 (01:18:43):
Speaking of fifty yard field goals, we just got another
one Gano fifty yard field goal for the Giants, so
they've had a couple of field goals in this game.
Speaker 3 (01:18:51):
Not much else.
Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
The story in this game has been Sam Darnold looking
electric in his first start with the Minnesota Vikings twenty
one to six. Vikings continue to lead in that game.
Update on the Saints Panthers, it's been quiet. Thirty to
three is the score as Derek Carr twelve of sixteen
hundred and twenty one yards, three touchdowns. Bryce Young in
(01:19:13):
this game six of fourteen to fifty yards, no touchdowns
and two picks. Right, was that the right hire a coach?
We'll find out again.
Speaker 4 (01:19:23):
It is way too early to say for certain anything
about this NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:19:27):
So well, the reason I asked you because they pulled
the plug on the coach they hired previously, someone very
close to you, and Frank Reig just determining quickly that
he was not the right guy. I know you're a
Frank Reich fan big time and feel like it's hard
to evaluate with a rookie quarterback what kind of job
Frank Reich is doing.
Speaker 5 (01:19:48):
I'm and we have to also remember that Matt Ruhle
was the coach before that, and he's looking pretty good
at Nebraska right now.
Speaker 4 (01:19:54):
Yeah, Matt, yeah, Look, that's the deal. Frank Reich looked
great as a Colts coach. He was fired unceremonial lee
mid season. If you remember, that was the year he
was forced to bench Matt Ryan because Colts owner Jim
Mercy got in the way of personnel decision making. And
then he was hired on to be Carolina's head coach.
And I don't think Bryce Young was his choice. I
think that Richard dr Sanders needs to sit out the
(01:20:14):
rest of the year for Colorado's getting killed. Behind that
lack of an offensive light. We continue on with much
more NFL action. This is Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 10 (01:20:23):
Had a Putt Stonehouse back deep to our left. DeAndre
Carter pressure clock on the ground, picked up to the ten,
to the five to the end zone.
Speaker 9 (01:20:35):
Put the touchdown on the black punt.
Speaker 3 (01:20:37):
By the Bears.
Speaker 9 (01:20:39):
Jonathan Owens. Welcome to Chicago. Touchdown on the stupid score
and the Bears get much needed points. How the Tennessee Titans.
The first touchdown of the year comes by way.
Speaker 3 (01:20:52):
Of special teams.
Speaker 2 (01:20:54):
That's the Bears radio network. And just like that, the
Bears are back in. It's still trailing the Titans by
the score of seventeen to ten, eight and a half
the minutes to go in the third quarter in that game.
All right, once again, this is Red Zone Radio Steve
Hartman and Rich Armberger. We're broadcasting live from the ti
rack dot com studios. Tier rack dot com are gonna
(01:21:14):
help get you there and on Matt selection fast ree
shipping free road has a protection over ten thousand recommended installers.
Ty rack dot com The way tire buying should be.
By the way, quick note here much was made on
Thursday night. Taylor Swift obviously was at the game, but
she was not sitting with Brittany Mahomes at the game. Well,
guess what, Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce Patrick and Brittany Mahomes
(01:21:37):
are all at the US Open Men's Final hanging out
together today.
Speaker 3 (01:21:41):
So I just wanted to get.
Speaker 7 (01:21:42):
That, okay, So let's scrap.
Speaker 3 (01:21:45):
Yeah, let's just.
Speaker 4 (01:21:46):
Talk about that, all right, guys, all Denham knee high
red boots. Good luck for Taylor Swift. The Dolphins just
got inside of Jacksonville territory on a sixty three yard
bomb from to a tongue of I loow. He found
Jaylen Waddle downfield on the post route. He extended to
the right side of the field. There was nobody home.
Just ran to a vacancy, ran under the football. Beautiful throw,
(01:22:09):
beautiful catch, and now Miami has an opportunity to score
in a game they trailed by ten hosting the Jaguars.
Here with seven minutes left in the third quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:22:18):
And the Bills have taken the lead over the Arizona
Cardinals twenty four to seventeen on that Josh Allen the
sugar pass. So right now, you look at Josh Allen's
numbers in this game, Riich We mentioned the fact that
Arizona had built their league. Kyler Murray had a terrific
first half, but the real key in this game was
time of possession. Arizona was just keeping Buffalo off the field.
(01:22:39):
But Josh Allen has had a day. He has thirteen
to fifteen, one hundred and fifty five yards, two touchdown passes,
no picks. He has also scored a touchdown. So Josh
Allen has been outstanding in this game. And now the
Bills taking control. That's let's see, that's twenty one n
answered points after Arizona built that seventeen to three lead.
Speaker 4 (01:23:02):
Yeah, it's because the offense woke up, but so did
the defense. The Bills last drive they punted after three
plays of three and out and then the Arizona Cardinals
they were driving until Kyler Murray got sacked, fumbled recovered
by the Bills before this drive where they drove the
field and scored on the touchdown pass. So this is
(01:23:23):
how it looks when, or it should say, on the carry.
This is how it looks when the Bills get rolling,
because that's one of the most fierce offenses in the NFL,
and it's all because of Josh Allen. He's so dynamic
you don't know whether you have to defend the run
or the pass with him, and they'll trick you with
personnel informations.
Speaker 3 (01:23:41):
Another offense that just finally woke up.
Speaker 2 (01:23:44):
The Cincinnati Bengals have finally scored with a minute to
go on the third quarter on a Zach Moss touchdown run.
So the Patriots lead the Bengals thirteen to seven. And again,
we were talking about this at halftime. There are just
a lot of teams out there did not play their
first string offenses that were sleepwalking in the first half.
Will they wake up in the second half. Well, the
(01:24:06):
Bills have, the Bengals are right now, and the Dolphins
also beginning to show some lucky It's gonna be a
rough outing thirty seven to three, really rough year for
the Carolina Panthers right now. Kamara, by the way, he
has eighty two yards on the ground rushing, he has
a touchdown. He's also cut passes for twenty two yards.
So you fantasy football people, yeah, as long as he
(01:24:29):
gets to go against teams like the Panthers, he's going
to score some points for you.
Speaker 11 (01:24:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:24:32):
Absolutely. Focusing on the Bills though for a second.
Speaker 4 (01:24:36):
One of the things that you have to highlight because
they lost something big on their offense. Stuff on Diggs
obviously was one of the biggest scouting report items when
any team was preparing for that offense. But Khalio Shaki
just caught that touchdown for eleven yards. He's got two
catches for thirty yards on the day, plus that receiving
touchdown Mac Collins. A lot was made about how he
(01:24:56):
walks around barefoot all the time this offseason, but also
he's a dependable, well you know, two or three receiver
behind Keon Coleman, their drafted rookie first rounder they're leaning on,
depending on. He already has three grabs for twenty three yards.
If you look at how many receivers already Josh Allen
is connected with, it's eight on the day, including his
(01:25:16):
running backs. This is what this Bills offense is gonna
look like. It's gonna be receiving by committee as opposed
to having a star unless one emerges. It could be Coleman,
it could be Shakir Do for a big year. It
could be any of these guys. But one thing we
do know is that Josh Allen has the goods. We
just haven't seen him without digs yet and the early
(01:25:37):
returns are looking pretty good, at least in the second half.
Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
Bears showing life after getting that block punt return for
a touchdown, they just stop the Titans. Will Levis got
sacked on third downs, so the Titans are punting away
from deep in their own territory. The Bears will get
the ball back. And this is when you want to
see what Caleb Williams has right. I mean, can Caleb Williams,
you know it's a one score game. Can he get
(01:26:02):
this offense going? Can he make some big throws? Can
he get this passing attack unraveled?
Speaker 5 (01:26:08):
You want to talk about running away with something? Vikings
are running away with this game. Daniel Jones pick six
Andrew van Ginkel taking it back, not far they need
to go, grant it, but pick six defensive touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (01:26:24):
Brian Dable survive this season? I absolutely not. I I
don't see how. I don't see how.
Speaker 4 (01:26:31):
I don't see how Brian Dabele or Daniel Jones are
back coming next season.
Speaker 7 (01:26:36):
How quick do you pull the trigger on just sitting
Daniel Jones?
Speaker 3 (01:26:38):
I was about to say so.
Speaker 5 (01:26:39):
I go to David Potio at draw Play Dave on Twitter,
who makes very fun NFL comics. He's a Giants fan
and in his words, in all caps start the Italian.
Speaker 3 (01:26:49):
Oh yeah, yeah, looks.
Speaker 4 (01:26:51):
Danny DeVito by the way, Cole Kott sitting on the
sideline there.
Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
Oh, come on, guys, I asked Adam Kaplan our Fox
Sports Radio NFL insider about that about de Vito. You
know how long before he goes he will not replace
Daniel Jones. Never say never listen anytime the owner loves
Daniel Jones. That was that was his words, Like he's
(01:27:16):
in love with Daniel Jones.
Speaker 4 (01:27:18):
Anybody who speaks in ultimatums into in today's society outside
of sports even is either lying to you or they're
dumb because you can't say anything is a definite yes
or no or never or always. We don't live in
that world anymore, certainly not in the NFL. Like there's
no way Tommy DeVito's gonna get us start this season.
Speaker 3 (01:27:41):
Yeah, no, there is a way. If Daniel Jones stinks
to the point where guys are fearing losing their jobs
mid season, guess what they're gonna do. They're gonna say, hey,
go there, get that clipboard, yeah, and see that headset. Yeah,
pick that up too, all right, see that pack of gum,
Choose some of that Yeah, And then you're gonna you
stand right here next to me. I'm gonna have this
whistle around my neck, and you just him right next
(01:28:02):
to me. We're gonna watch Tommy Coolecutts in there. That's
how that's gonna look. That's how this works.
Speaker 2 (01:28:06):
Chris Boswell has five field goals for the Steelers. They've
up their lead to fifteen to ten. Listen to this
ledger for him. Fifty seven yarder, fifty one yarder, forty
four yarder, fifty six yarder, forty yard that's not bad.
That's to have a weapon like that, Chris Boswell.
Speaker 3 (01:28:25):
Go and check my fantasy temc if I drafted Chris
Boswell because I usually don't pay attention to me.
Speaker 2 (01:28:30):
He has a fifty seven to fifty six, a fifty
one to forty four to forty yard field goal, Steelers
lead fifteen to ten.
Speaker 3 (01:28:37):
Now, can we also just comment on what that means?
Speaker 4 (01:28:40):
It means that the Steelers crossover midfield and they go, yeah,
that's about all we got.
Speaker 3 (01:28:44):
So well, hey, Bozsi, could you get out here and
finish this drive for us? All right?
Speaker 2 (01:28:48):
Well, I want you to evaluate what Justin Fields has
done in this game. He's fourteen of nineteen, one hundred
and forty yards, no touchdowns, no picks. He's also gained
thirty one yards on the ground.
Speaker 3 (01:28:58):
Sounds a lot like Kenny Ticket. It sounds a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:29:01):
I don't know about the thirty one yards right now.
Speaker 3 (01:29:04):
Maybe outside of the explosive front.
Speaker 2 (01:29:06):
I mean, but do you think that the numbers would
be better if he had Russell Wilson out there?
Speaker 4 (01:29:10):
It's arguably, but Russell Wilson also kind of reminds you
of Mason Rudolph, Kenny Pickett, and who else was out there,
Mitchell Trubisky from a season ago. Look, these are game managers.
Speaker 3 (01:29:22):
Now. Hopefully Justin Fields can play himself hold on into
a much better quarterback than we've seen toward the end
of the season in Chicago. He looked pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:29:31):
Okay, I've never seen this before at this point of
the game, because we're at the end of the third
quarter in this game Pittsburgh in Atlanta. I mentionined Justin
Fields is fourteen of nineteen for one hundred and forty yards.
Kirk Cousins is fourteen and nineteen for one hundred and
forty yards. Yeah, they have the exact same passing stats.
So you say, Fields, how would you a vout Kirk
(01:29:54):
Cousins at fourteen of nineteen for one hundred and forty yards?
Speaker 3 (01:29:56):
Is it different for Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 4 (01:29:58):
I feel much different about Kirk Cousins day than I
do Field's day for one or two big reasons.
Speaker 3 (01:30:04):
The turnovers.
Speaker 4 (01:30:05):
He's fumble the ball and he's also on an interception.
So I mean, look, like I said, when you manage
a game, it's not even that negative of the thing
I was saying, it almost making it sound like, oh,
this is awful. Well, guess what with game managers? Last year,
the Pittsburgh Steelers were a playoff team. I mean, with
a better game manager this year they could be again
(01:30:27):
a playoff team. Look, the AFC is a strong conference,
but once you get outside of some of these top
teams who are lording over the rest of this conference,
there's wiggle room in the wildcard. And so I don't
ever look past the Steelers of being able to put
together a winning season, a playoff season, especially with Mike
Tomlin at the helm pulling all the levers, because that
(01:30:49):
defense is inarguably one of the most fearsome groups in
all football.
Speaker 2 (01:30:53):
All Right, we have games heading into the fourth quarter.
We got eight games going on right now. We got
some blowout what's going on, but we've got some close games,
which games will give us the biggest finishes. You'll find
out by listening to us.
Speaker 3 (01:31:06):
Keep it here. This is Red Zone Radio Jones at
an empty SAT wide receiver screen or something by kickle
and he runs it in for a touchdown. I want
to play by Andrew Vankinkle. He read the wide.
Speaker 9 (01:31:20):
Receiver screen, looked it right out there for a six shard.
Speaker 2 (01:31:24):
Pick six ky Fan one hundred point three FM Vikings
Radio Network and has been all Vikings today as they've
blowing out the Giants twenty eight to six minute a
half to go in the third quarter. In that game,
once again, Steve Hartman Rich Ornberger with the Residi Red
Zone Radio. We're live from the tyraq dot com studios,
in which we finally had a Tyreek Hill awakening eighty
(01:31:48):
yard touchdown pass Tua to Tyreek and they are right
back in this game, trailing the Jaguars seventeen to fourteen,
two minutes to go in the third when he got
a guy like Tyreek Hill, by the way, six etches
one hundred nine yards in a score, it's only a matter.
Speaker 4 (01:32:03):
To speeding recklessly toward the end zone there. What what Chris.
Speaker 5 (01:32:10):
Speaking of speeding recklessly? Speeding recklessly? Joe Mixon touchdown for Houston.
You're starting to pull ahead of Indianapolis here late.
Speaker 4 (01:32:20):
So the Texans that will give them, what a twenty
one to thirteen point lead?
Speaker 3 (01:32:24):
How long of a rush? Two now with twenty two eight?
Speaker 2 (01:32:28):
How about Joe Mixon in this game? Anybody have them
on their fantasy team? Twenty one carries one hundred and
nineteen yards and that's touchdown for Joe Mixon, so he's
having a day.
Speaker 11 (01:32:39):
C J.
Speaker 2 (01:32:40):
Stroud has been very efficient. Twenty to twenty eight, two
hundred and three yards, one touchdown and no interception. So
the Texans in control right now, leading twenty two to thirteen.
We are a couple minutes into the fourth quarter in
that game. Just update on all the score. Steelers leading
the Falcons fifteen to ten minutes to go on the fourth,
(01:33:01):
Cardinals get a Fueld goal. They still trail the Bills
twenty four to twenty inside twelve minutes to go on
the fourth and of the fourth third quarter, Titans hanging on.
Bears have the ball though in Tennessee Territory, Titans lead
at seventeen to ten. Patriots still hanging on against the Bengals.
They have the ball and the lead thirteen to seven
inside eleven minutes to go in the fourth. Jaguars stunned
(01:33:25):
after that eighty yard touchdown pass two it to Tyreek
all of a sudden. Their lead is just three with
two minutes to go on the third. The Saints Panthers.
Panthers just scored, They got a touchdown, they got a touchdown, thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:33:40):
Seven to ten. Saints.
Speaker 2 (01:33:41):
Okay, we get from the Vikings twenty eight to six.
So we got a couple of blowout games. Well, we
got a couple of games here Rich that look like
they are going to go down to the wire.
Speaker 4 (01:33:50):
Yeah, no question about it. Including this game going on
in New England. It is still a one score game,
thirteen to seven lead for the New England Patriots and
the Bengals just got a nice little stop on second
down that brings up third and long for the New
England offense, who are looking to convert on a third
and eleven here nine minutes forty seconds left in the
(01:34:13):
fourth here Cincinnati Bengals hosting the Patriots, I imagine, weren't
thinking they were going to be in for as much
of a dogfight as they are with Jacoby Brissett a quarterback,
but he connects just shy of the first down market.
It's going to be a long two for the Patriots offense.
My guess is they'll settle for the field goal and
go up sixteen to seven here. But Cincinnati, they're running
(01:34:37):
out of time. They are running out of time, is right.
We're approaching the nine minute mark right now, and again
a successful field goal makes it a two score game
in favor of the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (01:34:48):
Would that be unbelievable at the end of the day.
Speaker 2 (01:34:51):
I mean, the Bills have taken the lead over the
Cardinals and Miami's coming back, but for a moment there
we are like, could the Patriots be alone in first
place in the NFC.
Speaker 3 (01:35:00):
East for the AFC He's.
Speaker 2 (01:35:02):
Going into the Monday night game tomorrow for the Jets
and the forty nine ers.
Speaker 4 (01:35:06):
So yeah, I have the Pats down winning eight games
this season. Field goal is good.
Speaker 2 (01:35:12):
Sixteen to seven, Patriots lead the Bengals. We're at eight
forty six to go in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 7 (01:35:19):
You know, forgive me if you guys mentioned this, but
did you see Tyrek Hill's touchdown celebration?
Speaker 3 (01:35:23):
No, I didn't see the Jetta.
Speaker 7 (01:35:25):
He went ahead and put his hands behind his back.
Speaker 3 (01:35:26):
Oh my yeah, okay, Tyrek Kill.
Speaker 2 (01:35:29):
If you miss this, Tyreek Kill was actually handcuffed coming
to the stadium today. We're not quite sure all the details,
but he did something that made the police not only
pull him over, but handcuff him.
Speaker 4 (01:35:41):
Well, yeah, I look, I mean, there's always two sides
to that story. We'll see what the the the body
cam footage suggests, We'll see what was exchanged verbally, what
the what the incident was over in the first place.
I think right now all we have is reckless driving.
That was the and I have that in your Bingo card.
(01:36:02):
Say it again, did either of you have that on.
Speaker 7 (01:36:03):
Your Bingo card for the NFL season Week one?
Speaker 3 (01:36:06):
Yes, I'm very I'm very very very good.
Speaker 4 (01:36:10):
I did have that, and I also had the Shuffler ones.
So right now I have B and I I'm looking
for my n.
Speaker 5 (01:36:15):
G Williams Deep right now, guys, surprisingly Jeff Darlington at
both locations?
Speaker 3 (01:36:21):
Yes, yea? Interesting? All right?
Speaker 4 (01:36:23):
Uh so, yeah, maybe let's look into Jeff Darlington a
little bit as Keenan Allen comes up limping on a
deep throw a pass attempt from Caleb Williams to the
veteran free agent signing. He dropped the snap, got up,
heaved the ball to the end zone and it was
a little hesitation route by Alan before streaking down.
Speaker 2 (01:36:46):
The sideline end zone way out of the end and yeah,
he it looked like he uh, yeah, he came up.
Speaker 7 (01:36:51):
Lame there, he came up blame. And Caleb hasn't looked great.
But the Bears offense also looks extremely disjointed today.
Speaker 2 (01:36:58):
Caleb Williams is eleven of twenty five passing. That is
forty four percent eighty yards.
Speaker 3 (01:37:05):
That's not good.
Speaker 5 (01:37:06):
The Bears are at ninety three yards of offense currently.
Speaker 2 (01:37:09):
But they got a field goal out of this, so
they're in this game. It's seventeen thirteen Titans now, uh,
and we just started the fourth quarter. But yeah, they
showed Keenan Allen. He is definitely limping to the sidelines.
By the way, will Levis is not exactly lighting up today.
He only has eighty seven yards passing in the game.
The difference there has been Tony Pollard because the Bears
(01:37:32):
have no running game today.
Speaker 3 (01:37:34):
Yeah, yeah, watch a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:37:35):
I mean, DeAndre Swift has eight carries for six yards.
Speaker 5 (01:37:38):
This is the classic DeAndre Swift experience. You need him
to get four yards for a first down. He runs
east west and steps out of bound after three because
he doesn't want to get hit.
Speaker 3 (01:37:46):
But here he's like a salty lionsman. I'm not even
an Eagles guy.
Speaker 5 (01:37:52):
He'll back me up on this all day about this,
like this is just how DeAndre Swift runs.
Speaker 2 (01:37:56):
I'm sorry, gracious by the way Jay's decision to make.
Speaker 4 (01:38:00):
I see they're they're taping a heating pad to the
lower back of Will Levis. Maybe it was from the
hit or I don't know. I mean I watched a
lot of offseason film on Levis. He's carrying around a
lot guys, so that that could be.
Speaker 3 (01:38:15):
A t I have a Daniel Jones update.
Speaker 2 (01:38:17):
So they had a fourth They had a fourth down
play inside like the ten yard line, so they decided
to go for it, and Daniel Jones just threw another interception.
No way, he just threw another interception. Let Tommy throw
this ball.
Speaker 4 (01:38:36):
Tommy Devino may may get in the game while they're
still in Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (01:38:41):
So they were at the eleven yard line, fourth and eighth.
They decided, let's go for it. He throws a pass
over the middle, intercepted Daniel Jones, Steve, I know you
like your quarterback rating. How does Daniel Jones have a
higher quarterback rating than Bryce Young at this point?
Speaker 3 (01:38:56):
Very careful?
Speaker 2 (01:38:57):
Well, right now, Daniel Jones updated? Is that thirty seven?
He has a thirty seven.
Speaker 3 (01:39:02):
Sealing at twenty five point two.
Speaker 4 (01:39:03):
Yeah, let's tell you what a couple of tough days
at the office on the road across the NFL for
a few quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (01:39:09):
There's no doubt, no doubt about it.
Speaker 7 (01:39:10):
But we just had a nice touchdown passer from Anthony
Richardson in.
Speaker 3 (01:39:14):
This clutch game. Yes, so they're right back in this game.
Speaker 7 (01:39:16):
Yeah. I have no idea who the cult receiver is
because I don't I know one of them duel in
there you go, I have you never heard of that guy?
Speaker 3 (01:39:25):
I mean, buddy, buddy. Their first named Ashton Okay, Ashton Dulan.
Speaker 5 (01:39:29):
This Colts team today has got to be very frustrating
for fantasy managers. Nothing from Pittman, nothing from Adanai Mitchell.
You've got to be pulling your hair.
Speaker 2 (01:39:38):
Out Arizona's in trouble right now, guys. The Bills are
now got a first and goal at the Arizona six
yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:39:45):
Josh Allen's had a day, man.
Speaker 2 (01:39:46):
He is throwing the ball accurately well, and it was
just a matter of getting the Bills offense on the field.
They were not on the field for most of the
first half. So after building an early seventeen to three lead,
the Cardinals trail the Bills twenty four twenty and we
got a second ago for the Bills now at the
Arizona six yard line. Now Pittsburgh also has got a
(01:40:07):
first and one.
Speaker 3 (01:40:09):
How do you have a first and one?
Speaker 2 (01:40:11):
That was a penalty at the seven yard line of
Atlanta Steelers, already leading this game fifteen to ten, a
touchdown here with eight minutes to go, putting in the
Steelers in a pretty good spot.
Speaker 3 (01:40:24):
And the Kirk Cousin's debut.
Speaker 2 (01:40:26):
You where the Atlanta Falcons has not been good is
their offensive line has not afforded him a lot of
time to set up to pass.
Speaker 4 (01:40:35):
Yeah, the Atlanta Falcons right tackle is having you want
to talk about having a long day at the office.
He has been tasked with blocking TJ. Watt the entire
day and he hasn't yet done it, so we'll keep
you updated.
Speaker 2 (01:40:49):
It was a fourth and one for the Steelers at
the six yard line, and watch the knee of fields.
Speaker 4 (01:40:57):
Okay, so they're leaping over the defensive formation.
Speaker 3 (01:41:01):
Did he get a yard?
Speaker 4 (01:41:02):
And he is scrambling with his helmet down below defender.
Speaker 3 (01:41:07):
I don't think he I don't think he got that yard.
I don't think he did.
Speaker 2 (01:41:11):
And there you are saying, yes, he got stopped. Wow,
and turnover on downs? They needed that?
Speaker 3 (01:41:19):
So what you want to know? What you needed? Something?
Speaker 5 (01:41:21):
Josh Allen six yard rushing touchdown here? Yeah, Bills are
starting to pull away from the Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (01:41:27):
Can I go back to this call here for the Steelers?
All right, so you're up fifteen to ten. Another field
goal makes it an eight point game. Still a one
score game, but an eight point lead.
Speaker 3 (01:41:38):
Okay, got it?
Speaker 2 (01:41:39):
And you decide to go for the sneak on fourth
to one and you come up empty and Boswell, your kicker,
by the way, is a perfect five for five in
the game. I think I take the field goal there
with seven minutes to go. Yeah, kind of because you're.
Speaker 4 (01:41:52):
A has been dominating the game, right, But you can
make the same argument about, well, listen, this Atlanta Falcons
offense can't anything to us. So basically what it is
is a straight up act of disrespect to the Atlanta offense.
You're saying, we know you shall not pass, so we
do not care if you get the ball back with
(01:42:14):
this much time left. I look and Mike Tomlin, I mean,
I know analytics now is all the rage in the NFL,
and a lot of people are looking.
Speaker 3 (01:42:24):
At this, but this could be a gut check.
Speaker 4 (01:42:26):
You could just say to yourself, like, do we really
think Atlanta's going to score on us? And the answer
is probably not.
Speaker 2 (01:42:30):
Well, they do have a long field now, taking over
the six yard line. By the way, the Bengals get
a field goal, so it's back to a one score game.
Patriots lead sixteen to ten, six minutes to go in
the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:42:41):
There, let's find out what is trending right now.
Speaker 2 (01:42:44):
We give you the overview. This man gives us the details.
Speaker 3 (01:42:48):
Nick Cope, all.
Speaker 5 (01:42:49):
Right, we got five of our eight games are one
score games. The witching hour, as our man Scott Hansen
of NFL Red Zone likes to say, we just had
a strip sack FuMB the Bears are gonna take the
ball over. Will Levis got hit from behind right as
he was about to throw. This does not look like
a forward pass. Bears recover right around the plus thirty
(01:43:11):
yard line, so they're gonna have a chance here. A
touchdown will put them ahead. They're currently trailing Tennessee seventeen
to thirteen. Bears are being out gained in this game
two hundred to ninety three, but Caleb Williams and the
offense they got at the plus thirty one so early stages,
fourth quarter in this one. Another tight game we've got
you mentioned the Bengals. Evan McPherson fifty one yards to
(01:43:33):
pull the Bengals within six sixteen to ten. New England
leading Cincinnati Jacobe Brissett has been hobbled in this one,
but he's battling through. Ramandre Stevenson seventy seven yards rushing
and a touchdown. Zach Moss with a lone score in
the end zone for the Bengals. Tight game in Indianapolis,
Texans up twenty two to twenty on the Colts.
Speaker 3 (01:43:55):
Ashton Doolan.
Speaker 5 (01:43:56):
Another big play through the air for the Colts of
fifty four yard receipt from Anthony Richardson at Alec Pierce
with a sixty yard catch for a touchdown, earlier two
point lead for Houston. All these games are early stages.
Are toward the midpoint of the fourth quarter. Jacksonville still
leading Miami seventeen to fourteen. But a little while ago
was Tyreek Hill getting loose.
Speaker 3 (01:44:17):
We actual take through a back to throw watch a
duke one dal Biel. He's got Tyreek. Kyree got a
forty thirty five thirty down the timeliney go cutch down Miami.
Speaker 6 (01:44:28):
Oh my gosh, to be killed once again, Tyreek kill
the greatest good the house.
Speaker 5 (01:44:35):
Eighty yards Fox Sports nine to forty Dolphins Radio Network
three point game there with the Jaguars having the football.
You also have a one score game in Atlanta, Steelers
up fifteen to ten, down to seven minutes to go
on that one that is the fastest moving game. Looks
like the Cardinals have just found the end zone a
(01:44:56):
ninety six yard kickoff return for touchdown after Josh Allen
just ran it into making eleven point lead. Buffalo was
on a twenty eight to three run in this game,
but the Cardinals given life a ninety six yard kickoff return,
so pending the extra point that would make it a
four point game in Buffalo. Finally, a couple of blowouts.
(01:45:18):
To mention Vikings all over the Giants twenty eight to six.
Sam Darnold two hundred eight yards passing two touchdowns in
an interception. New Orleans has just added a field goal,
and they now lead forty to ten on the Panthers.
Speaker 3 (01:45:31):
Quickly, we'll go off of the NFL the top twenty
five and the AP.
Speaker 5 (01:45:35):
Georgia is still number one, Texas up to number two,
Ohio State three, Alabama four, Ole Miss five. And then
we got the US Open final. Yanick Center took the
first set over Taylor Fritz.
Speaker 3 (01:45:45):
Back to you.
Speaker 2 (01:45:46):
Guys, all right, Nick, thank you very very much. By
the way, I've been checking the scoreboard here and we
have not had a miss kick extra point the entire day.
Speaker 3 (01:45:57):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:45:58):
In fact, the kicking today has been lights out. I
don't remember a day where we've had more fifty yard
plus field goals. By the way, speaking of field goals,
the Bears just got one. So the Bears now trail
the Titans seventeen to sixteen. Still plenty of time left
in that game, Saints scored again, by the way, No,
they got a field goal forty to ten, now their
(01:46:20):
lead and the Bills. By the way, the Cardinals went
for the two point conversion and got it. So the Cardinals,
this is the first kickoff return for a touchdown we've
seen with the new rules today, A huge one for
the Cardinals.
Speaker 3 (01:46:36):
They went for two.
Speaker 2 (01:46:37):
So they trailed the Bills thirty one to twenty eight,
still eight and a half minutes to go in the
fourth quarter in that game.
Speaker 4 (01:46:44):
Remember when I told you in this fifteen to ten
ballgame the Steelers in Atlanta currently beating the Falcons, I
said the reason why they went for it on fourth
down was because the Steelers have zero respect for the
Falcons offense.
Speaker 3 (01:46:58):
Well that's been proven true the Steelers.
Speaker 4 (01:47:01):
They earn a five and out against the Falcons, who
were penalized early in the drive by a Pits Kyle
Pitts off or illegal formation before holding them on a
third and twelve, and now the Falcons have punted it
to the Steelers. Looks like there's a flag down on
the return. Might add some yardage for the Pittsburgh Steelers
(01:47:22):
with five thirteen left to play with a five point lead.
Speaker 2 (01:47:25):
Is it time to yank kirk Cousins in favor of
Michael Pennocks Junior.
Speaker 4 (01:47:29):
I'm gonna I'm gonna put this kindly. Kirk Cousins has
looked baffled the entire date. However, I will say he's
had almost no time.
Speaker 3 (01:47:40):
TJ.
Speaker 4 (01:47:41):
Watt and other defenders have been in his kitchen the
entire time. He can't step up into any of these throws.
He's been chased around, and he's not that type of quarterback.
He needs a decent pocket or needs to have routes
he can throw to immediately when he's under siege like that.
Speaker 3 (01:47:56):
He's had neither.
Speaker 5 (01:47:56):
Kirk Cousins having trouble this Atlanta Falcons O line. Don't
know how throwing a rookie in there now with that
same O line is going to help things.
Speaker 3 (01:48:04):
Unfortunately.
Speaker 2 (01:48:05):
Well no, but I mean again, you decided you could
have gone a lot of different ways with that pick,
and you decided to take your quarterback of the future.
Speaker 3 (01:48:14):
Maybe they already knew.
Speaker 2 (01:48:15):
What they had with that offensive line. Of course, not
every team has a TJ. Watt all right. By the way,
the Texans right now have a first and goal at
the Indy nine yard line. We haven't talked a whole
lot about this game. It feels like the Texans have
been in control of this game, but every once in
a while, Anthony Richardson makes a play and you look
up and you know it's twenty two twenty Texans over
(01:48:35):
the Coals. But right now, second and goal for the Texans,
we got seven minutes to go on the fourth quarter,
they're at the Indy three yard line.
Speaker 4 (01:48:42):
Yeah, we had that short pass to Duelan that went
for a long game in the score that brought the
game within two points for the Colts, who are hosting
the Texans in this AFC South showdown, where a lot
of people, I'm sure high on the hype train for
the CJ. Stroud experience from his rookie season and looking
to see the Texans with an easy victory here. But
(01:49:04):
Anthony Richardson win healthy last season was dynamic.
Speaker 3 (01:49:08):
He showed out.
Speaker 4 (01:49:09):
Now, I understand preseason reports and we all saw them
were poor on Anthony Richardson. But there are certain players
who are good practice players and there are certain players
who are gamers. And that applies to quarterbacks as well.
I've played with a couple of them, so very interested
to see a if Anthony Richardson looks as good for
an entirety of a season as he did for a
(01:49:30):
portion of a season last year, and also be if
he could even make it, because last season he got
knocked around early and he was gone.
Speaker 2 (01:49:38):
Patriots still leaning and they have the ball sixteen to
ten Pats against the Bengals. The difference in this game
two lost fumbles, So the Bengals. The Patriots haven't done
anything spectacular, but they play clean. They haven't had any turnovers.
I mean that's going to be a key for an
offense that's going to struggle to score. But defensively, they've
done a number on the Bengals right now, if they
(01:49:59):
actually pull this game out, what does that mean for
girod Mayo and his debut is the guy that has
to take over for the all time legend.
Speaker 4 (01:50:07):
It means that he's focused on the right things this offseason,
which is make sure that he has a defense that's
playing sound, good, high effort, physical defense like we've seen
all seat or I should say all game long against
the Bengals in Cincinnati, but also an offense that can
manage the situation. Look, here's The thing is every offense
(01:50:27):
gonna score thirty five points per game. No, I mean
you won't have. You'll have certain offenses who can't reach
twenty points per game. But it doesn't matter as long
as your defense holds. And that could be the story
of the New England Patriots season. If the defense holds,
the offense can do just enough to win football games
led by Jakobe Briscentt and we'll see if we get
some Drake may If you look at the Patriots beginning
(01:50:48):
of their season, though, it is I mean it's hard
hitter after a hard hitter. The Bengals, the Bills, the Dolphins,
I believe the or No, the Bengals, Bills, the Jets,
the Dolphins are all in the first six weeks of
this season. I got to go back and review it.
But of their six games, you could count potentially five losses,
(01:51:09):
including this one against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 3 (01:51:12):
But so far, so good.
Speaker 2 (01:51:13):
They're going for it fourth and two at midfield. They're
gonna go for the push. Are they actually going to
go for this as a fourth and a full two
yards at midfield?
Speaker 3 (01:51:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:51:24):
They they That was never gonna happen. By the way,
the Texans fourth and goal now at the Indy two
to go for the field goal. Here, we're going to
find out exactly what the Texans do next. Leading the
Colts by score of twenty two to twenty.
Speaker 5 (01:51:38):
There are some very baited breaths out there watching to
see what happens with the score.
Speaker 3 (01:51:43):
Yeah, Will leve is just.
Speaker 7 (01:51:44):
The worst pick you'll ever see someone throw.
Speaker 3 (01:51:49):
The Bears have just taken the leading Bears. Just the
Bears just ran in a Will Levith pick six Tyreek
Stevenson in the defensive secondary. They're about to play the
replay here, Steve On, think about this.
Speaker 2 (01:52:02):
The Bears touchdowns in this game have been a pick
six and a block a punt correct and by the way, football,
By the way, Will Levis on the last time out,
watch this throw.
Speaker 3 (01:52:12):
This is Will Levis. He had some pressure, There's no
question about it. So there it is. And oh no
he didn't he backhanded it out to the sideline as
he was in the grass. Now a Bears defender.
Speaker 2 (01:52:26):
Okay, I would literally release him immediately.
Speaker 3 (01:52:30):
Text what is this?
Speaker 2 (01:52:31):
I mean, this is the National Football League with a lead.
Speaker 3 (01:52:34):
He did not do that.
Speaker 2 (01:52:37):
He was clearly going down and he flipped the ball
for a pick six.
Speaker 7 (01:52:41):
Can they get Malik Willis backer?
Speaker 3 (01:52:42):
No, I'm sure they could.
Speaker 2 (01:52:44):
But will Levis, by the way, and the last time
out was like yelling at his team to get him
fired up.
Speaker 3 (01:52:50):
I cannot believe it.
Speaker 2 (01:52:52):
That has to go down as one of the five
worst pick six throws I've ever seen. Bears going for
two an easy toss and the Bears have a twenty
four to seventeen lead seventeen and a half minutes to go.
Speaker 3 (01:53:04):
Did he actually do what he did? I don't unreal
I don't really understand what we just He flipped the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:53:11):
This was like a fifteen yard flip as he was
going down to the sideline.
Speaker 3 (01:53:17):
I look, with no receiver in sight.
Speaker 4 (01:53:19):
It's it's inconceivable to make a decision like that in
a game where you're leading.
Speaker 3 (01:53:26):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 4 (01:53:28):
He's also a young quarterback, very inexperienced, and he's playing
for his job too.
Speaker 3 (01:53:33):
He just lost its job.
Speaker 2 (01:53:35):
Got playing for your job and that's what you come
up with and you've lost your job.
Speaker 4 (01:53:39):
There's a couple of guys around this league, Wow, who
are are forcing things today?
Speaker 3 (01:53:44):
And you could? You could you know why? It's one
of those.
Speaker 4 (01:53:47):
It's one of those look, I gotta do something to
impress the coaches, and when you try too much, oftentimes
you make the mistake that could potentially cost your team
the game.
Speaker 5 (01:53:56):
Unfortunately, the Titans are one of these teams who have
decided to move on like this two quarterback format to
only two quarterbacks on the fifty three man roster because
of new rules and everything. But so waiting in the
wings is Mason Rudolph. Yeah, I know, something tells me
the Titans are not going far this way.
Speaker 2 (01:54:11):
Well, Rudolph played well for the Steelers those last couple
of games. Did they not make the playoffs? Yes, they did,
by the way. Saints scored again forty six to ten,
benning the extra point against the Carolina Panthers Texans.
Speaker 5 (01:54:25):
Texans scored on fourth and goal, by the way, found
digs in the flat. So with the pat they're back
up by two scores, twenty nine to twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:54:32):
All right, we continue on here which games will actually
go down to the final play We'll find out This
is red zone radio love us swallow.
Speaker 9 (01:54:40):
It up, gets rid of it up the last second,
and it is intercepted down the sideline to the twenty
eighth to the ted to the five to the end
zone time reach Steven zed for the.
Speaker 3 (01:54:51):
Lead in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 9 (01:54:54):
We'll love us under eat just flipped it into the air.
The easiest pick six You're gonna fight for time, Stephens
said Bears twenty two seventeen with seven thirty five to
go in the game.
Speaker 2 (01:55:06):
That's the Bears Radio network and what had to be
the ugliest pick six ever thrown in the history of
the NFL. Courtesy and Will Levis, Bears get the two
point conversion. They lead twenty four to seventeen over the Titans,
and they have the ball once again.
Speaker 3 (01:55:21):
This is the right Zone Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:55:22):
We are live from the ti iraq dot com studios
and as I'm watching these games right now, Miami, by
the way.
Speaker 3 (01:55:28):
Field goal is good.
Speaker 2 (01:55:29):
They have tied up this game with Jacksonville four and
a half minutes to go. You know, we had Patrick
Mahoons versus Lamar Jackson on Thursday, then we get Jalen
Hurts going up against Jordan Love on Friday. Some pretty
good quarterback play right today, we're more minded how many
bad quarterbacks are in the NFL. I mean, there has
been some awful quarterback play on this Sunday. There's been
(01:55:54):
some good, but there's been some awful quarterback play today.
Speaker 4 (01:55:58):
Okay, so a couple of things. There's defensive players getting
paid two in this league.
Speaker 3 (01:56:04):
Yes, uh, it's early in the season.
Speaker 4 (01:56:07):
Even veteran quarterbacks have to knock off some rusts and
rookies obviously getting broken in in a couple of different
games that we've been watching, and a couple of second
year quarterbacks honestly who are also Anthony Richardson. It's been
some good, some bad. In a game where they're trailing
twenty nine to twenty six right now.
Speaker 2 (01:56:23):
Yeah, so by the way, Anthony Richardson three are touchdown
run to get that a field goal again.
Speaker 4 (01:56:28):
And it hasn't all been perfect, you know, if you
look at what's going on in that game. Same with
Will Levis obviously pointed out that pick six. But there
has been some good. There's growing pains with every offense
early in the season, certainly with every young quarterback around
the league. Now, you will always have your handful or
more of great quarterbacks, but even those guys Joe Burrow
perfect example, I mean, is he putting up good numbers? Yeah,
(01:56:50):
twenty one of twenty nine to one sixty four through
the ear air, but no touchdowns, no interceptions either. It
has been a Patriots, a sweltering, smothering Patriots defense, and.
Speaker 2 (01:57:00):
They're celebrating right now because this game is winding down.
It looks like the Patriots indeed will defeat the Cincinnati Bengals.
Drod Mayos starts his head coaching career with a huge
w on the board, a team the Bengals that I
think most of us have picked to win the AFC
North this year.
Speaker 4 (01:57:20):
So when you look at the Patriots schedule, next up
they host the Seahawks and then it gets real tough.
After that, they go to the Jets, they go to
the forty nine ers, they host the Dolphins, and then
they host the Texans and Jaguars after that before hosting
the Jets.
Speaker 3 (01:57:39):
So there is no reprieve here.
Speaker 4 (01:57:41):
They're going from big game to big game to big
game to big game, and it is an early gauntlet
for the Patriots. Now they survive like this where they're
playing great defense and they're limiting you know, great quarterbacks
to only scoring ten points in a victory here in
Cincinnati on the road, in a game where everybody was
(01:58:01):
picking against the Pats. That boat's extremely well for Drod
Mayo's rookie year as a head coach.
Speaker 2 (01:58:08):
Yeah, first rookie head coach to win his first game
as a Patriots coach since Dick McPherson way back in
nineteen ninety one.
Speaker 3 (01:58:16):
So it's been a while, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:58:18):
So the game that is Titus right now, Dolphins and
Jags seventeen, all inside four minutes to go. Trevor Lawrence
and company have the ball and they have a.
Speaker 3 (01:58:28):
Long way to go.
Speaker 2 (01:58:29):
In fact, they're looking at a third and fourteen right
now from their own twenty six yard line. As you mentioned,
the Texans and the Colts is a two point game
with two fourteen to go in the fourth quarter. Bill's
looking to put away the Cardinals two minute warning. Bills
are up three, but they have a fourth down at
the Arizona twenty, So I would guess you're.
Speaker 3 (01:58:51):
Gonna go for a field goal there all your.
Speaker 4 (01:58:53):
Buffalo interesting situation developing in Chicago. Obviously, the Bears currently
lead twenty four seventeen, but it was off a special
team's block punt for a touchdown, and that pick six
that you were alluding to earlier by the Bears defense
but if you look at this game overall, the Tennessee
Titans started out hot and then cooled. They get an
(01:59:15):
opportunity with three minutes twenty seconds left in the fourth
and the ball. They're returning the punt right now after
Caleb Williams tried to draw the Titans defense off sides
on a fourth and seven. Look, they didn't bite, so
it'll be Titans ball with enough time to score.
Speaker 2 (01:59:34):
The Jags are now going to punt from their own
twenty yard line, so they could get no offense going there.
And by the way, remind me again, didn't Trevor Lawrence
get a huge contract?
Speaker 4 (01:59:47):
He got broke off like a couple of quarterbacks over
this offseason, including most recently Dak Prescott. Moments before kickoff,
we got the news that he will be the highest
paid in an athlete in NFL history.
Speaker 2 (01:59:59):
Yeah, Trevor Lawrence a pedestrian twelve of twenty one one's
sixty two in a score exciting finishes will have some
for you. Don't go anywhere much more. Coming up, this
is Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 3 (02:00:12):
Fourth and goal with the three.
Speaker 6 (02:00:13):
The Colts are trying to stay in the game with
a touchdown shotcut snap for Richardson.
Speaker 3 (02:00:17):
Dame's gonna take off to the right side, makes one man.
Miss Stiff Arts has went you to the insult down.
Speaker 2 (02:00:24):
D Why that's Colts Radio Network. Colts getting back in
this game. Trail the Texans twenty nine to twenty seven.
We're inside two minutes to go on the fourth quarter
in that game. This is Red Zone Radio. We're broadcasting
live from the tire rack dot Com studios. Tire rack
dot com. We're gonna help get you there and unmatched selection,
fast reshipping, free road ads for protection over ten thousand
(02:00:46):
recommended installers. Tire rag dot com. The way tire buying
should be.
Speaker 11 (02:00:50):
So.
Speaker 2 (02:00:51):
The Arizona Cardinals comeback attempt fails. The Buffalo Bills, running
out the clock right now, will come away with a
thirty four to two twenty eight victory over Cardinal team
to build an early seventeen to three lead, but the
Bills ultimately and by the way, an absolute gap by
the Bills kickoff team. After getting the field goal to
(02:01:12):
extend the lead to six, they kicked off and kicked
out of bounds, giving the Cardinals the ball out a
forty yard line. With all three timeouts, they had some opportunities,
they just couldn't make the plays and it is over.
Speaker 3 (02:01:24):
The Bills beat the.
Speaker 2 (02:01:25):
Cardinals thirty four to twenty eight. Josh Allen by the way,
eighteen of twenty three, two hundred and thirty two yards,
two touchdowns, no picks. That's a passer radio one thirty
seven point seventy. He also scored two touchdowns, So Josh
Allen big day to start his season.
Speaker 4 (02:01:41):
Also, the Chicago Bears just finished up their game against
the Tennessee Titans. They hosted them and won twenty four
to seven. Team will Levis in the game, had two picks.
On that last drive where they were pressing to get
something done, he threw his second interception one went for
a touchdown earlier. He also threw for a touchdown nineteen
(02:02:01):
of thirty two one twenty seven. Largely a forgettable day
for will Levis. I could say the same for Kayleb Williams,
except it was his first day on the job, so
he'll always remember this. One fourteen of twenty nine, eighty
two yards. The Bears only had one hundred and forty
nine yards of total offense.
Speaker 2 (02:02:19):
They had a punt block for a touchdown. They had
the pick six for touchdown. But you're right, Caleb Williams
is now officially one to zero as an NFL starting quarterback.
Speaker 3 (02:02:29):
Heers football, all right.
Speaker 2 (02:02:30):
So Miami is now running down the final seconds to
set up what they hope will be a game winning
field goal four seconds left. Jacksonville has led this game
throughout to a tongue of byloia. It's had a big
day three hundred and thirty six yards passing in this game,
including Tyreek Hills seven catches, one hundred and thirty yards.
He had an eighty yard touchdown. But right now it
(02:02:53):
is going to be Jason Sanders on the field. It
says he has never missed a game winning or time
field goal in the final two minutes in overtime, which
is usually the kiss of death.
Speaker 3 (02:03:04):
So when they put up a stat like this, this
is not a gimme.
Speaker 2 (02:03:08):
This is going to be a fifty two yard field
goal at ten. Again, it's a tie game and a
time out right now by Jacksonville, so seventeen all. Meanwhile,
the Texans in control two point ly, they have the
ball with a minute to go.
Speaker 3 (02:03:24):
Yeah, this game's over.
Speaker 4 (02:03:25):
You just had Joe Mixon off the right tackle for
a nine yard scamper.
Speaker 2 (02:03:30):
How about one hundred and fifty nine yards rushing for
mixing today on thirty carries.
Speaker 4 (02:03:34):
Big reason why they won this football game. And he
was able to ice the game as the Texans will
kneel on the football to count out the rest of
the time remaining on the clock in the fourth quarter
seven victory.
Speaker 2 (02:03:46):
There's still another game still going on in doubt, Saints
hanging on leading the Panthers forty seven to ten, three
and a half minutes to go. Can they just stop
the game right?
Speaker 3 (02:03:57):
I mean, mercy rule the Carolina Panthers. Wow, but there
is the damn towel. Here we go the.
Speaker 2 (02:04:03):
Fifty two yard field goal attempt to win it for Miami.
The kick is right down the middle, there are zeros
on the clock, and the Miami Dolphins have come from
behind to defeat Jacksonville twenty to seventeen.
Speaker 3 (02:04:18):
That was pure that kick. Wow, Yeah, that was that
was right down the upright right down two yards. So
there it is.
Speaker 2 (02:04:27):
The Dolphins get the victory against Jacksonville. That's a nice
come from behind win for Miami because you know, like
a lot of these teams, they just could not get
their offense going early but in the second half they
definitely did so they have come away with the victory.
Speaker 3 (02:04:44):
All right. So with that being said, I'm going to I'm.
Speaker 2 (02:04:47):
Gonna also, even though it's not officially over, I'm gonna
put the Saints in the win column as well.
Speaker 3 (02:04:52):
Hang on, though, how much time is left?
Speaker 11 (02:04:54):
There?
Speaker 2 (02:04:54):
Saw three minutes, two minutes to go, and what's the lead?
Speaker 3 (02:04:57):
What of this is only a thirty seven point lead?
Right now? Things happened, all right? So what's coming up here?
Speaker 2 (02:05:03):
We got two games about to kick off. We talked
earlier about the Raiders at the Chargers, Broncos at the Seahawks.
By the way, I got bad news for Broncos fans,
by the way, That game just kicking off right now.
So yesterday I predicted that the g Men would shock
the world and defeat Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (02:05:22):
Today he did. That did not happen.
Speaker 2 (02:05:24):
I also picked the Broncos to win on the road
against Seattle today because, as you know, I'm on the record,
this is my surprise team. The Denver Broncos, led by
rookie quarterback Bo Nicks, are going to sneak in as
a wild card team.
Speaker 3 (02:05:38):
This year in the AFC.
Speaker 2 (02:05:41):
And if we get a big boost if they could
open the season with a road victory against the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (02:05:46):
Yeah, there's no doubt about it.
Speaker 4 (02:05:48):
And if there's a winnable game on your early season schedule,
I would say, even though it's on the road at Seattle,
that might be one of them. Denver look Sean Payton
a veteran of the game. He understands how to coach players,
and I think he realized last season that the culture
may have been spoiled a little bit based on what
(02:06:10):
happened with Nathaniel Hackett short but also what happened with
Russell Wilson. It felt like there might have been a
power struggle inside of that building. And Peyton tried to
change the seas and couldn't, and so he ousted Russell Wilson.
And they're spending a lot of money not to have
him on their roster right now, and they introduced Bo Nicks.
(02:06:31):
Here's the question, are we going to see a Caleb
Williams performance or are we going to see like an
early season CJ Stroud performance from last year.
Speaker 2 (02:06:39):
Caleb Williams was walking off the field in Chicago, Bears
fans excited about getting the win against the Titans. Caleb
Williams day to day was fourteen of twenty nine. That's
under fifty percent for only ninety three yards passing fourteen
of twenty nine ninety three. But he didn't throw an interception.
She didn't throw an interception. No touchdowns either there were.
In fact, their offense didn't have a touchdown.
Speaker 7 (02:07:00):
You know, they did their own interception. Who's Gino Smith?
Speaker 3 (02:07:05):
Hello? Maybe my I am telling him? Get those games
these afternoon games kicking? Are they all up?
Speaker 2 (02:07:13):
Yeah? By the way, we're watching the Chargers with the
opening drive. As you know, Justin Herbert had to sit
out the entire preseason with that foot injury. But this
is going to be supposedly a run emphasis on.
Speaker 3 (02:07:30):
We got a fumble right now.
Speaker 2 (02:07:32):
Justin Herbert just got hit, fumbled the wow, and we
got fisticuffs.
Speaker 3 (02:07:37):
Already in this early in this rivalry game.
Speaker 2 (02:07:39):
So between the Silver and Black and the Bolts.
Speaker 3 (02:07:42):
Herbert took a shot.
Speaker 4 (02:07:43):
One of his offensive lineman landed on the football and
curled up to down it, and then a defensive lineman
for the Raiders ended up slamming him into the ground.
But it all gets negated because of an offside penalty
on the defense so evers football.
Speaker 5 (02:08:01):
Yeah, dude, the Raiders price they can pick up a
personal foul for that.
Speaker 2 (02:08:05):
Yeah, there's no personal foul for that because the play
was dead.
Speaker 4 (02:08:09):
A lot of people say that the Raiders because they
wear the silver and black, they get penalized because because
it's almost like driving around in a red.
Speaker 3 (02:08:17):
Ferrari, you know, you'll get pulled over more.
Speaker 4 (02:08:19):
But I think it's just because they play really undisciplined football.
Speaker 2 (02:08:24):
Yeah that's Uckham's Razors by the way, by the way,
way back in the day.
Speaker 3 (02:08:28):
I learned this from you know, work in that organization.
Speaker 2 (02:08:31):
Is in the old days when they they used to
get their penalties when they were up to Touchdownah that's right.
Speaker 3 (02:08:37):
Yeah, yeah, you know another volleyball.
Speaker 2 (02:08:38):
They played bullyball when they were way up, so you know,
all those penalties wouldn't hurt him in the game. Bo
Nick's trying to make a play here on third and
two and can't, So it's a fourth down, So Denver
is gonna have to settle for a field goal attempt
after the interception.
Speaker 3 (02:08:53):
Yeah, go to an opportunity, cheering bo Nicks.
Speaker 2 (02:08:56):
I will say this about watching again, eyeball tests for
bow early in this game. Take a breath, Just take
a break. He seems a little rushing things.
Speaker 4 (02:09:05):
Looks like he's a bit frantic, and so is Justin Herbert,
who is under siege from this Raiders pass around Max Crosby.
Speaker 5 (02:09:14):
Nobody picked Crosby up off the edge. Look at this
just got out the bottom. Look at this man?
Speaker 4 (02:09:19):
Okay, so that was that was not a well handled
defensive line stat and number ninety eight. Max Crosby gets
into the backfield for the Chargers offense, wraps up Justin
Herbert early whistle and now they're punning on a fourth
and eight opportunity to open this game. It could be
a long, hard season for Justin Herbert. He has very
(02:09:40):
few weapons to throw to. As we mentioned Greg Roman,
the new offensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh, the new head
coach in LA, and they didn't really restock the receiver room.
Lad McConkey. He was drafted. They're excited for the second rounder.
But you have to have options. Every the team that
(02:10:00):
has success usually has at least two stars on their offense,
whether it be a tight end receiver or two receivers,
just something that the quarterback can look to when one
guy's covered.
Speaker 3 (02:10:12):
They do not have that in LA.
Speaker 2 (02:10:13):
Well, think about defensive coordinators as they get ready for
the Chargers. Normally, when you're a defensive coordinator, you say,
all right, we got to.
Speaker 3 (02:10:19):
Take this guy out. The problems are problem.
Speaker 2 (02:10:21):
What are we going to do with that guy? What
are we going to do with that guy against the Chargers?
By the way, first pass was to Disley, the tight
end Will Disley. If you had said he'd be the
first guy to catch a pass this year for the Chargers,
you could have won some money there. Broncos do get
the field goal, so they get the early three to
nothing lead against the Seahawks.
Speaker 4 (02:10:41):
And the Panthers are driving right now, okay for their
face of fourth and four at the Carolina.
Speaker 3 (02:10:48):
Field goal here to cut it to thirty four? Or
do you go for it? Well, here's the thing, they're
at their own nineteen. So if they kicked the field
smatch a.
Speaker 2 (02:10:58):
Record Bryce Young today third teena thirty one hundred and
sixty one yards, no touchdowns and two picks. Meanwhile, Derek Carr,
who apparently everyone in New Orleans wants to get rid
of this guy nineteen to twenty three, two hundred yards,
three touchdowns, no picks. That's a passer rating of over
one forty two. Maybe Spencer Rattler can wait for a
little bit before he takes over as the quarterback of
(02:11:20):
the Saints. All right, we also have two other games
they're going to be kicking off here shortly, Commanders at
the Bucks and Cowboys at the Browns.
Speaker 3 (02:11:30):
As you know who, Tom Brady makes his broadcasting debut.
Speaker 11 (02:11:34):
Ever heard of him?
Speaker 2 (02:11:35):
Yeah, all right, we got much more coming up. Stay
with us, more coming here on Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 12 (02:11:41):
Here we go from the left half, Jason Sanders a
fifty two yarder to win the game in this season
opener against Jacksonville.
Speaker 7 (02:11:49):
Nap is good.
Speaker 2 (02:11:50):
He kicks it up Sanders field goal is good, and the.
Speaker 12 (02:11:55):
Dolphins have beaten the Jaguars twenty to seventeen to start
the twenty twenty four NFL team.
Speaker 2 (02:12:03):
I'm gonna guess that's the Jaguars radio network, because if
that was Miami's, that would be a fireball offense for
a hometown guy to come up with that college.
Speaker 3 (02:12:13):
So you have the Miami one if you want that. Yeah,
let's hear this.
Speaker 2 (02:12:17):
Hear So that was I may say that was the
Jaguars radio.
Speaker 3 (02:12:20):
Yes it was, yes, my apologies. Let's hear the Miami side.
Now there's set ferguson the long snapper, Bailey the holder
Sanders swim that right way, hold us down, kick yourself
and I'm.
Speaker 4 (02:12:34):
Gont The Dolphins have won this football.
Speaker 3 (02:12:37):
Game twenty to seventeen over the Jaguars.
Speaker 1 (02:12:40):
What a comeback.
Speaker 2 (02:12:42):
Yeah, that's Fox Sports ninety Dolphins Radio network as the
Dolphins escape with the victory twenty to seventeen over the
Jacksonville Jaguars. Once again, this is the Red Zone Radio.
We are live from the tire rack dot Com studio.
Steve Hartman and Rich Ornberger with you. We have two
games underway right now. The Broncos with an early three
to nothing lead on the road against the Seahawks Raiders
(02:13:06):
Chargers no score, and the Chargers offense early in this
game is nonexistent.
Speaker 11 (02:13:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:13:15):
Well again, the Chargers don't have very many places to
go with the football. Outside of this running game, which
Jim Harbaugh was excited to help Justin Herbert with, there
won't be much to speak of unless they find a
hidden gem somewhere in this receiver room.
Speaker 3 (02:13:34):
Again.
Speaker 4 (02:13:34):
Lad McConkey was a draft pick they were excited about,
but outside of him, not very many recognizable names for
the Los Angeles Chargers. So we have a scoreless game
as six and a half minutes have ticked off the
clock here in the first quarter.
Speaker 2 (02:13:49):
Yeah, two three and outs for the Chargers on their
first two offensive possessions, not that the Raiders did anything.
They were also three and outs, so off and struggling.
Gardner Minshew, of course the starting quarterback for the Las
Vegas Raiders. But again this is different for the Chargers
because you have Jim Harbaugh, by the way, watching Michigan
(02:14:12):
get routed yesterday by Texas, and by the way, Texas
they did.
Speaker 3 (02:14:16):
You see the first touchdown that was taken away.
Speaker 2 (02:14:19):
For a holding call?
Speaker 3 (02:14:20):
That was a non holding calls?
Speaker 11 (02:14:22):
What was that?
Speaker 3 (02:14:23):
Yeah, there were some I mean look there.
Speaker 4 (02:14:26):
The officiating in college football's something to.
Speaker 3 (02:14:29):
Be desired anyways.
Speaker 4 (02:14:31):
But but again, even as the NFL season gets underweight,
we were talking to rules analysts Mike Pereira earlier. He's
going to be on the call for Fox as Tom
Brady uh calls his first ever football game from the
analyst position Cowboys at Cleveland. So we'll see how that sounds.
And what that looks like. But he even said he
was like, look, early in the season, there are times
(02:14:53):
where officiating crews are giving points of emphasis and you're
supposed to go out there and call type ballgames. But
at the end of the day, people don't want to
see penalties. Fans of the game don't want to see penalties.
So you got to get out of the way of
the football being played. And that's exactly what we all
hope for when we tune into a game. So yeah,
college football a little bit sloppy from the officiating. As
(02:15:16):
we're getting our first look inside of the booth with
Burkhard and Brady, Yes, look at.
Speaker 3 (02:15:21):
This, they're doing the stand up. They got their backs
to the field. Brady handsome, handsomest ever.
Speaker 2 (02:15:27):
Yes, that hair just just continues to grow. But again
for Tom Brady, look is he is the goat. I mean,
there's no argument about who the goat is. Tom Brady
in every respect is the goat. And it's going to
be an interesting matchup here because, as we mentioned with
Dak Prescott going up against DeShawn Watson, DeShawn had the
(02:15:49):
record for the most guaranteed money ever on an NFL
contract two hundred and thirty million, And if you missed
it earlier, today the Cowboys agree to a new deal
with Dak Prescott and the contract which is worth two
hundred and forty million, but two hundred and thirty one
million is guaranteed. This for a quarterback whose postseason record
(02:16:11):
is two and five. That's right, that's right, two and five.
And Deshaun Watson got all that guaranteed money after being
out of the league for an entire year when he
was facing all kinds of legal trouble. So it's amazing
how much money you can make even if you're I mean,
if you're Patrick Mahomes. It'll make more sense though in
(02:16:31):
a second one. Well, well, so let me explain it
to you from this standpoint.
Speaker 3 (02:16:34):
Yeah, let's hear this.
Speaker 4 (02:16:35):
Okay, if you're buying real estate in a certain zip code,
it doesn't matter what the house looks like. You're buying land.
You're you're buying in a certain zip code. That's how
the quarterback market works. You're not buying the house. You're
buying in the most expensive neighborhood in the world.
Speaker 5 (02:16:52):
You know.
Speaker 4 (02:16:52):
When you're talking about or at least in the NFL,
when you're talking about the quarterback position. So whether you
have a Dak Prescott or you have a Patrick Mahomes,
you were going to pay top dollar for that that
house because that's what the market presents. Every single house
that comes up for sale, if it is one of
considered to be one of the top ten or top
twelve houses on the market, it's gonna beat the last
(02:17:14):
house for sale.
Speaker 3 (02:17:14):
That's how this always goes.
Speaker 2 (02:17:16):
So all, how come Mahomes never comes out on top?
Well there, I mean his resume compared to every other
quarterback in this league.
Speaker 14 (02:17:25):
Well, he spends leap ears ahead of that. He's spent
He spent some time as the highest paid court was
what three years ago, and and that's the way this works.
So Steeve, this is no secret to anybody. Now, don't
get me wrong.
Speaker 4 (02:17:39):
They will restructure and renovate and they'll they'll make sure
that Mahomes is made whole over the course of his
time in Kansas City. And there are certain quarterbacks who
will give the hometown discount to their team as well.
Tom Brady, you know on the call in this game
where Dak Prescott, yeah, you know, hours before kickoff became
the richest man in NFL history.
Speaker 3 (02:18:00):
He's one of those guys who took price breaks. You know,
Tom Brady did well.
Speaker 2 (02:18:04):
He took He was at never the highest paid quarterback
in the NFL during his go career. But I will
say this, if I was as at least Teinberg still
representing Patrick Mahomes, that is correct, my dear friend Lee.
And if I were Lee, I would I would call
the Chiefs and said, we want a four hundred million
dollars guarantee.
Speaker 3 (02:18:25):
That's right. I mean, I don't care.
Speaker 2 (02:18:26):
I mean, here's but I mean yeah, I mean, if
you're giving Dak Prescott two thirty one guarantee with two
playoff wins, my guy has three Super Bowl championships, four
Super Bowl trips, the greatest seven year start of any
quarterback in the history of the National Football I want
four hundred million guarantee.
Speaker 3 (02:18:43):
I don't think it's a ridiculous ask. I know it isn't. However,
I will say this, you have to have the cash
to pay a guy that kind of money.
Speaker 4 (02:18:51):
Well, I mean, Jerry Joe Hunt family has plenty of money. Well,
a lot of these and this is true too, a
lot of these owners. They are very rich people because
of the the shares of ownership in a team. But
it's like being a Hunt family had lots of money
long before. Going back, going back to the real estate
market comparison. Sometimes your house poor. Sometimes you own an
(02:19:12):
expensive asset, but you're not liquid. And that happens with
NFL owners, especially when we're talking about guarantees to the
tune of four hundred million dollars. It just isn't gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (02:19:23):
Sure might not come on. I mean that, but that
that is the comparison. Again.
Speaker 2 (02:19:29):
If you if you're setting the bar at two thirty
one for Dak Prescott, then mahomess have four hundred.
Speaker 4 (02:19:34):
By the way, the Browns putting down, Yeah, big Tomlinson
up the middle defensive tackle.
Speaker 2 (02:19:41):
For the highest paid player in the NFL got put down.
Speaker 3 (02:19:45):
Well he he uh, he got put down because it
was a coverage shock.
Speaker 4 (02:19:49):
Nothing was opened downfield as he tries to weave a
wabble his way up and climb the pocket and he
gets clobbered.
Speaker 2 (02:19:56):
He had just started turned to his right to look
for a and then he just took it head on.
Speaker 3 (02:20:02):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (02:20:02):
So we got second and twenty seven for Dak Press
A good way to start the season, right, all right,
So the Cowboys are role this Chargers Raiders game. There
is literally no offense in this game so far. And
then we have the debut of Jayden Daniels with the
Washington Commanders going against Baker Mayfield, who had a huge
(02:20:25):
comeback year last year for Tampa kept their streak alive
of making it into the postseason. Picking up for where
Tom Brady left off, what's your gut feeling in Baker
Mayfield classically throughout his football career, when he literally is
fighting for his football life, seems to come up with
a year and then he gets a deal and then
all of a sudden, Baker Mayfield reverts back to a
(02:20:47):
different level.
Speaker 1 (02:20:48):
Boy.
Speaker 4 (02:20:48):
I'll tell you, I feel like we're going to see
some regression in Tampa Bay. I feel like they snuck
up on a lot of teams last year. I think
the division around them improved. So you just look at
what the Saints did today, the Falcons, they looked awful,
But the presumption is they're not going to look this
(02:21:08):
bad every week. I mean against the Steelers, though they
got smothered by a heavy dose of TJ want Carolina.
Well you know what, Yeah, I won't ever leave Carolina
out of the conversation when I'm talking about some of
the NFL's best teams. But yeah, so I feel like
it could be a little bit of a coming down
(02:21:29):
to Earth for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Speaker 2 (02:21:30):
We'll see, and then the Browns just got a huge
punt return into Dallas territory.
Speaker 4 (02:21:35):
In terms of the Commanders, you know, going back to
this game against Tampa Bay, I think Jayden Daniels may
be the most NFL ready prospect taken in the first
round at the quarterback position. We're already down one. There
were six draft picks at the quarterback position taken in
the top twelve picks of the NFL draft. Three start
(02:21:55):
the first week. Pennix Junior obviously stayed on the sideline
as Kirk Cousins was flummoxed by the Steelers. You have
mcarthy out, Caleb Williams had a tough day at the
office in a win over the Titans, McCarthy out for
the season with the knee, and.
Speaker 2 (02:22:09):
Drake May watched Jacoby Brissett lead the Patriots to a victory.
Speaker 4 (02:22:13):
Through a sixteen ten victory of fifteen ten victory over
I forget what the score was over the the Cincinnati
Bengals sixteen on the road, sixteen ten. And then we
see Jaden Daniels will take the field for the first
time after the Buccaneers, who are facing a third and
three here just over midfield at the the commander's forty
(02:22:34):
two yard line, and Mayfield, operating out of an empty set,
connects down.
Speaker 3 (02:22:39):
Oooh, that was in and out of the hands of
his receiver.
Speaker 2 (02:22:42):
In and out.
Speaker 3 (02:22:43):
That's milling flight out drop. That would have been a touchdown.
He would have ran that all the way. Oh gosh,
that is a.
Speaker 2 (02:22:50):
Flat out drop. By the way, Cameron Dicker has hit
a field. Go remember when the Chargers US look for
new kickers all the time, Dickers turned out to be
one of the best kickers in the NFL, Chargers taking
the early three and nintheen league.
Speaker 3 (02:23:02):
You're an NFL receiver, you got gloves on. You can't
catch that pass that That was as bad as it gets.
That's pretty brutal for Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 4 (02:23:09):
So a fifty six yard attempt for Chase McLaughlin here,
who I guess was twenty nine and thirty one a
season ago.
Speaker 2 (02:23:16):
For the field we've had, I don't know this has
got to be a record for fifty yard field goals.
Speaker 3 (02:23:20):
That one looks pretty good. One's easy.
Speaker 2 (02:23:23):
That is just drilled right down the middle from fifty six.
How many fifty plus yard field goals do we have today?
Speaker 3 (02:23:29):
How do we do this?
Speaker 5 (02:23:30):
Where we go from college kickers who seem to struggle
to hit like forty to like these guys in the
NFL who are like you asked them to hit high
fifties even sixty.
Speaker 3 (02:23:39):
It's like, yeah, no problem man, right down the middle.
Speaker 11 (02:23:42):
None.
Speaker 5 (02:23:43):
No, I just wonder where that evolution comes in. We
need better scouting on kickers.
Speaker 2 (02:23:48):
Obviously we do, because these NFL kickers today, we did
not have have not had a missed extra point today.
Speaker 4 (02:23:56):
So Denver settled for three points on their opening drive
with bon Nicks. Seattle got the football and they remained scoreless.
Didn't see that drive, but Denver has the ball back
facing a third down here Bonnicks with a little toss
play out of the ball.
Speaker 3 (02:24:11):
Hold on, hold on, because I would have got already. Yeah,
we need to find out what is trending right now.
Speaker 2 (02:24:18):
And a certain Nick Hope is there and he's ready,
ready with all the details.
Speaker 3 (02:24:23):
How's this been for you today, Nick, Everything good.
Speaker 5 (02:24:26):
Oh yeah, it's been a ton of fun. This is
like the most engaging three and a half hours ever.
It's just flying by, flying by. I've had one ear
tuned to, uh the Cowboys Browns broadcast.
Speaker 3 (02:24:37):
How does Brady sound so fun? Fine?
Speaker 14 (02:24:40):
Bye?
Speaker 3 (02:24:41):
Not you know, not saying anything too much, too interesting.
Speaker 5 (02:24:45):
I mean it's early, very early returns here, but okay,
definitely feel like he's still getting comfortable. And I mean
how many mock broadcasts did we hear of this crew doing?
And it just felt like the open he was still
just like a little nervous there, a little wooden.
Speaker 3 (02:24:59):
But we'll see how it goes.
Speaker 2 (02:25:01):
But nothing see hold out the Cowboys line for you
know that Pert sack the Dak pres game. You know,
I say something like, well, if the Cowboys aren't going
to block, Dak has no chance a living up to
that contract.
Speaker 5 (02:25:15):
Is that?
Speaker 11 (02:25:15):
You know what?
Speaker 3 (02:25:16):
Is that exactly what he said? Nick, Cope, And that's
a choice. That's what I would have.
Speaker 2 (02:25:20):
That's what Steve Harbin not quite for much less pay.
Speaker 3 (02:25:24):
Yeah, three and out for the Cowboys on their opening drive.
Speaker 5 (02:25:28):
Now the Browns facing third down and plus territory, No
score there. You guys mentioned the long field goals McLoughlin
for the Buccaneers.
Speaker 3 (02:25:35):
Three nothing Tampa early in that one, getting late first.
Speaker 5 (02:25:38):
Quarter for the Chargers after the fifty three yarder for
Cameron Dicker. Three nothing La over Las Vegas, and then yes,
Denver getting that field goal directly off of an early
Geno Smith interception in the opening minutes. Nothing doing in
Seattle since then, three nothing at Denver Finals from earlier.
Patriots upset the Bengals and drawds coaching debut sixteen to ten.
(02:26:02):
The final in Cincinnati from Andre Stevenson one hundred twenty
yards at a touchdown, Joe Burrow twenty one of twenty
nine passing just one hundred and sixty four yards, no
touchdowns for him. Bill's a rased in early fourteen point
deficit knocked off the Cardinals thirty four to twenty eight.
Josh Allen threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more.
Bears beat the Titans twenty four to seventeen despite no
(02:26:24):
offensive touchdowns. They had a punt return or excuse me,
a punt block return for a touchdown and then this
pick six.
Speaker 9 (02:26:32):
Let us swallow it up, gets rid of it the
last second, had it is intercepted down the sidelock for
the twenty.
Speaker 8 (02:26:37):
Eight a ten to five to the.
Speaker 9 (02:26:40):
End zone, tim reach Stevenson for.
Speaker 3 (02:26:43):
The lead in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 5 (02:26:46):
That's Curtis Ay of the Bears Radio Network. Caleb Williams
fourteen of twenty nine to ninety two yards and no touchdowns.
Dolphins came back from down fourteen nothing to edge the
Jaguars twenty to seventeen. Jason Sanders hit the game winning
fifty two yard field goal. Tyreek Hill, after he was
detained for reckless driving on his way to the game,
finished with one hundred and thirty yards, including an eighty
yard touchdown reception. He had the handcuff celebration afterwards, and
(02:27:10):
a Miami Dade Police Department guys has now placed one
of the officers involved on administrative leave while they conduct
a review of the whole incident.
Speaker 4 (02:27:23):
We have an update from Jeff Darlington. Also, this just
came in on Twitter five minutes ago. So apparently Tyreek
Hill wasn't the only Miami Dolphins player who was arrested
and detained in this whole situation. So apparently Kalais Campbell
says he was also detained by the police while trying
to de escalate the situation between police and Tyreek Hill.
(02:27:46):
He saw Hill and handcuffs and believed it was quote
unquote excessive force. Police put Campbell in handcuffs as well.
He was cited for disobeying a direct order. That is
a very tough day at the office for the Dade
County Police.
Speaker 2 (02:28:03):
Yeah, we've not heard the last of this story.
Speaker 3 (02:28:05):
I promise you. No, we haven't. Yes.
Speaker 5 (02:28:07):
Texans held off the Colts twenty nine twenty seven, two
touchdowns for Stefon Diggs and his Houston debut. Anthony Richardson
threw for two touchdowns, ran for another Vikings all over
the Giants twenty eight to six. Jordan Addison left with
an ankle injury. Steelers beat the Falcons eighteen to ten
on the back of six field goals from Chris Boswell,
including three of fifty yards or more. Saints bought the
(02:28:29):
Panthers forty seven to ten. In non NFL news note
new ap top twenty five, Georgia remains number one. Texas
leap frogs Ohio State for number two, Bama remains number four,
Ole Miss now number five, Northern Illinois now number twenty
five after their upset went over Notre.
Speaker 3 (02:28:45):
Dame and it's just gone final.
Speaker 5 (02:28:46):
In the US Open Men's final, Yannick Center the world
number one and Italian gets his second Grand Slam of
the calendar year. He beats Taylor Fritz in straight sets.
Speaker 2 (02:28:57):
Guys, back to you, Yeah the American dream any Rodicks
still says as the last American to win the US Open.
By the way, the Browns just got a fifty one
yard field goal. Another fifty yard field goal. Just unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (02:29:08):
What's going on?
Speaker 2 (02:29:08):
Hey, don't forget Thank you very much. By the way, Nick,
great job today. This is Red Zone Radio now right
after the start podcast has gone episode. If you miss
any of today's show, check out the podcast. Just search
Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts. Then follow
rate and review the podcast again. Just search Fox Sports
Radio wherever you get your podcasts. You'll see the show
posted right after we get off the air. It's been
a very busy show today. By the way, Jaydon daniels
(02:29:32):
first pass was a lateral pass that was way behind
the receiver, which meant it was a live ball. Fortunately
for him, the Tampa defender could not get there in time.
So he avoided a disaster on his first pass, but
technically it was a fumble.
Speaker 4 (02:29:48):
So far in the Los Angeles Chargers versus Raiders game,
it's been a punt fest, with one.
Speaker 3 (02:29:55):
Field goal scored by kicker or dicker.
Speaker 4 (02:29:58):
The kicker, Cameron Dicker of the Los Angeles Chargers, ball
back in the hands of the Raiders.
Speaker 5 (02:30:03):
Now.
Speaker 4 (02:30:04):
Chargers have been fairly inept offensively, one of three so
far on third down. Raiders putting together a little bit
of a drive here and.
Speaker 3 (02:30:11):
They run.
Speaker 4 (02:30:15):
Raiders so in the Battle of l A And that's
what I call this because they're probably far more Raiders
fans in attendance in Los Angeles today.
Speaker 3 (02:30:27):
All right, look at this view here? How much silver
and versus the blue? How much? Look at look at
SOFI Stadium. You see the blue takeover.
Speaker 4 (02:30:37):
Okay, So Alexander Madison on the swing pass from Gardner minshew,
he look left and so look like he froze the
man linebacker who miss had his legs, missed the tackle
and that was off.
Speaker 3 (02:30:52):
That's a good does anybody on a tackle this league.
I'll tell you it does. TJ. Watt. He knows how
to tackle somebody. You'll wrap them up.
Speaker 11 (02:30:58):
What was that?
Speaker 2 (02:31:00):
So the Raiders take the seven to three lead there,
But yeah, so far has been completely taken over by
the fans of the Silver and Black. So a seven
play fifty seven yard drive. Excuse me, sixty seven yard drive?
Speaker 3 (02:31:13):
That eight up?
Speaker 4 (02:31:13):
Close to four minutes of clock for Minshew and the
Raiders on the road first quarter, almost over forty seconds
left seven to three lead in Los Angeles.
Speaker 2 (02:31:23):
For then, I told you bo Nix was going to
be something special. How about these numbers?
Speaker 3 (02:31:26):
To start? Three for five five yards? Okay, now we're talking, hi,
you know what? Three for five five yards? He nicks.
He and Daniel Jones head close to the sam start today,
except Daniel Jones was a negative yardage when he was
three for five Gardner Minshew. So far in this Raiders
Chargers tilled six for eight seventy nine yards. That touchdown
pass Alexander Madison justin Herbert three of five just like
(02:31:51):
bow knicks, but for thirty two yards. Yeah read those
and weep. Okay, next and.
Speaker 2 (02:31:57):
Dak Prescott, the highest paid quarterback in the league.
Speaker 3 (02:32:00):
How's it going so far?
Speaker 2 (02:32:01):
One for one eight yards, but he had a sack,
so they have one net yard passing in the game.
By the way, Zekiel Elliott back in a Cowboys uniform.
Speaker 4 (02:32:12):
Yeah, yeah, Zeke Elliott. So they moved on from Tony Pollard,
who actually had a decent game. He had a touchdown
run today earlier.
Speaker 3 (02:32:21):
Yeah, but Zeke Elliott back in the Dallas Cowboys star
jersey and staying with the running back theme for a second.
So we heard a lot about this Chargers run game
ahead of this matchup against the Raiders. So far on
the ground, four carries for Gus Edwards and JK. Dobbins
collectively for eleven yards, averaging under three yard.
Speaker 2 (02:32:42):
Well, that's what Jim Harber wants to do with this offense.
He wanted to get the running game going where they're
gonna have to get something going because they're trailing the
Raiders right now seven to three. All right, coming up
on the other side will not only get you updated
on the games going on right now, we're gonna set
the table with Chris on the board of tonight's big
matchup Rams Lions.
Speaker 3 (02:33:02):
This is Red Zone Radio first to ten on the
Chargers thirty one. This is promising hiss. So fer Minshew
takes the snap, jumps it out to the flat. Madison
at the thirty pops over a defender twenty five.
Speaker 17 (02:33:13):
Hey, this maas fifteen ten five touchdown Madison, whoa, he
hopped the defender and he left the Chargers in their
dust on a thirty one yard passing touchdown.
Speaker 2 (02:33:26):
How the Raiders have a six to three lead. That's
Raider Nation Radio nine twenty a m. Raiders add the
extra point. They lead the Chargers seven to three. That
game has moved on already into the second quarter. Once again,
this is Red Zone Radio. Steve Hartman and Rich Ornberger
with you. We are live from the tire rack dot
Com studios. Of course, we want to thank our invaluable
(02:33:48):
crew with us Nick jumping in today doing a great
job as always. We're gonna get to Chris in a
second bo of course, celebrating his Eagles getting.
Speaker 3 (02:33:59):
Off to a one start. So that was good.
Speaker 7 (02:34:02):
Yeah, I was gonna bring it up earlier. But can
we just stop doing the touch push?
Speaker 9 (02:34:04):
Can we?
Speaker 7 (02:34:05):
It's done right?
Speaker 3 (02:34:06):
Well, a lot different without Jason Kelt no more.
Speaker 7 (02:34:09):
And also I think when you guys are talking about
playing the preseason, imagine if the Eagles had played in
the preseason, might not had three or four possessions start
the game to look like what they look like.
Speaker 4 (02:34:18):
Well, see that's the thing. Yeah, you you are going
against teams that obviously elect to do different things, and
so there are gonna be teams that start with an
advantage or potentially a disadvantage for playing during the preseason
because injuries do occur. But yeah, it's the Philadelphia Eagles
better start or worse start than the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 3 (02:34:38):
What do we think?
Speaker 2 (02:34:38):
All right, Well, let's get to Chris right now. He
of course is our resident Lions expert. He has hosted
multiple shows over the years related to Detroit Lions football.
Speaker 3 (02:34:49):
That's right, the Detroit Podcast still going strong.
Speaker 2 (02:34:52):
Absolutely, So this is an interesting matchup because I was
listening to the guys early this morning Bill Crack Crack
and said, there is so much action on the Lions
this year, like everyone is on the Lions bandwagon.
Speaker 3 (02:35:06):
Michigan a thousand percent right now. Michigan is a.
Speaker 5 (02:35:09):
Very big betting market and those people like to bet
their too, Like it's just like what we saw with
Michigan University Michigan last year. They were a huge liability
for the books as well. Like if you're a fan
of a Michigan sports team. Those teams get bett.
Speaker 3 (02:35:23):
Yeah, well, they're betting heavily on the Lions this year.
Speaker 2 (02:35:26):
I know one match at the lionsk in this game, Rich,
we talked about the Rams offensive line last year. They
played much better than we thought they were going to play.
But they're down a man. Uh and that guy is
matched up against Aiden Hutchinson, which is probably not a
good thing. So, Chris, is this a game? The Lions
(02:35:46):
are four and a half point favorites in this game,
so alerc Jackson, he says, suspended.
Speaker 5 (02:35:50):
The other issue is, and I'm trying to still figure
this out, I think the Rams are starting Jonah Jackson
at center. Jonah Jackson formerly of the Detroit Lions, but
he only ever played one game at center. He's almost
a pure guard in his career. This is a brand
new position for him, and they're moving to Villa to guard.
So I'm not quite sure what they've set for the
(02:36:11):
line here just yet.
Speaker 2 (02:36:12):
Well, four and a half point line for the and
by the way, the over under Rich fifty three and
a half. That's a pretty beefy number. Yeah, fifty three
is a high number. However, I will say this, both
of these offense creative and able to score anywhere on
the field. I mean, if you look at Sean McVay
has been the architect of so many great offensive moments
over his short career as a head coach so far.
(02:36:33):
Is Blake carn yet takeover. Is their number one running
back over Kyra Williams.
Speaker 3 (02:36:37):
It's possible.
Speaker 4 (02:36:38):
It's possible Karen Williams is going to be returning punts,
but I think he's going to see a good share
of the reps out of the backfield. And then you
look at Detroit with Ben Johnson, who returned his offensive coordinator.
After having some interviews for head coaching positions around the league,
I will say that's the key matchup though today is
Joe Noteboom taking on Aiden Hutchinson. Depending on the way
(02:37:00):
that goes up front, that could have a huge determination
on how successful the Rams on christ.
Speaker 3 (02:37:05):
You know it will be a lot of Blake Corum
fans at the game probably.
Speaker 5 (02:37:09):
I will also say this is kind of a trial
by fire for a brand new Lions defensive backfield. They
spend their first two draft picks on CBS Terry and
Arnold from Alabama, Nis Raystraw from Missouri, they go and
get Carlton Davis and a Meek Robertson. They understood that
was their major issue last year. This could be a
much bigger defensive oriented team this year. They're kind of
(02:37:31):
hoping on it because they've kind of lost you know,
they lost Josh Reynolds. It was kind of this They
might be taking a step back a little bit offensively,
but we'll see. They still want to get Jamison Williams
involved and just really get that higher option going our offense.
But this could be a new interesting defensive test for
the Lions.
Speaker 4 (02:37:49):
I think that Jamis and Williams could end up having
a breakout year this year. I think he was kind
of a Swiss Army knife that they haven't really been
able to exploit yet because of some of his early
career issues. Now, the last time these two faced each
other it was in Detroit where the Lions did successfully
beat the Rams, but if you remember that was down
to the wire. That's a twenty four to twenty three
(02:38:10):
finish in the NFC Wildcard round.
Speaker 2 (02:38:13):
And Pooka Nakoua, by the way, nine catches one hundred
and eighty yards plus in that game.
Speaker 4 (02:38:17):
Pooka is one of the most underrated players in the NFL,
and I realized there was more chatter about him as
his rookie year came to an end last year, at
the end of last year into the postseason.
Speaker 2 (02:38:29):
But is there a better pair of receivers than him
in a healthy Cooper Cup.
Speaker 4 (02:38:32):
I was about to say, when you have those two
together and you have help at tight end, and they
do have help at tight end, and you have two
talented running backs out of the backfield, assuming Blake Korm
plays to anywhere near the level he played as a Wolverine,
this is one of the more dynamic offenses in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (02:38:51):
I honest, they could keep Stafford upright.
Speaker 5 (02:38:53):
So get how many stories we have instead of just hey,
look at these two quarterbacks that swaps teams.
Speaker 2 (02:38:58):
By the way, they did get a touchdown on the
Dak Prescott to Brandon Cook, so they're up seven to
three in the Browns. Seahawks have even up their game
with the Broncos three to three. The Bucks have added
a field goal to their leads, so six to nothing
over the Commanders. Rich I'm gonna ask you about tomorrow night.
Aaron Rodgers back not an easy opener on the road
(02:39:19):
against the defending NFC champions who went overtime against the Chiefs,
and last year's Super Bowl. Personally, I just think too
much too soon for the Jets. I see an easy
Niners win tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (02:39:32):
How do you see it? Give me the Jets.
Speaker 4 (02:39:34):
And here's why wow, here's why that that is one
of the best defenses in the NFL. The Jets last
year were a seven win football team. Three of the
losses came by way of one score. And so if
you have a good quarterback, you have everything you need
in New York for a successful formula. This season, I
(02:39:56):
don't know, brock perty he cruised to a shaky finish
to the season.
Speaker 3 (02:40:01):
We'll see how it looks here against New York's defense.
Speaker 2 (02:40:03):
At shaky, he led his team in an overtime in
the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (02:40:06):
Keep it here on Fox Shakes Radio.
