This is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by
Bett mg app. No, we're live from your tailgate. Here's
Brian No, former Penn State All American, Rich Wrenberger and
PIX Wife's lead Betty analyst Jared Smith.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Oh, what is going on? Everybody? We are live here
from the Wharf, DC Live event with two of the
three amigos. You know what I thought about this right
before the show started. You know when Rich goes to
Hawaii and you can just almost feel the beach through
his voice. Well, we're out live here in d C.
(01:07):
You and me, Jared Smiths and Rich. I don't know
what he's getting ready for some ass Texans cave somewhere.
Where are you at there? Rich? What's going on?
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Buddy?
Speaker 4 (01:17):
I am in col Can you hear the Oakland in
my voice?
Speaker 3 (01:24):
I am in cal is he okay, are you okay?
Blink twice if you need help.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, No, I'm good. I'm good.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
I'm in a non distinct Maria in the shoulder lands
of cal Berkeley. I'm actually excited for this one. This
is the first time I'm going to be at Memorial Stadium.
This is obviously a huge week for a lot of
football teams trying to figure out who they are.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
Still San Diego State no different.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Colbert is certainly coming off one of the best weeks
they've had in a long time, going on the planes
at Auburn and getting that huge win a week ago.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
So they're right and high. This should be a fun
football game.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
But you, guys, more importantly, you're in DC, You're you're
in the nation's capital. You're you're doing things that are
pretty special. This morning, I'm I'm just a guy in
a hotel room right now, Just a.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Guy, Jack. Yeah, you sound like what do I have
at A and M Like the yell stuff the night before.
It sounds like you were yelling like crazy. Were you
playing like video games? Rich Row? You're just trying to
keep the voice down for the neighbors there in the hotel.
A little bit of both.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
You know.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Listen, you guys know me huge gamer, So I brought
all the consoles with me. Uh yeah, obviously, so late
night on the sticks as it were a lot of
Madden tournaments with the guys. Nah, it's uh, it is
a early wake up for the football team, you know,
because they're gonna obviously be doing some walkthroughs and some
(02:55):
and some meetings. But it's it's not this early. Are
our West coast early? Isn't their West coast early? So
they'll get to sleep in, We'll get up and work
and tee up this awesome weekend of football we got.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
You know, it's funny because Rich you mentioned early, and
Jared and I were talking right before the show, how
it's weird. It's like a mini rivalry weekend right here,
where we get the Apple Cup, we get the Civil
War or backyard Brawl. Yeah, we get the Backyard Brawl,
the one hundred and seventh edition of West Virginia and Pittsburgh.
(03:28):
So we get Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State at Washington
and the backyard Brawl, and you're like, wait a minute,
this is way too early, non conference. Yeah, but it
is kind of cool to get that flavor early in
the season because we've spent so much time saying it
or at least listening to people saying we don't have
(03:49):
the same rivalries, like the tradition is dead.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Bye blah blae.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
We still get some of these rivalry games early in
the season. That's cool.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
The best part about Rivalry Week, and really obviously most
times it's reserved for later in the season or the
final game of the season, depending is there's a little
something extra and I don't know how to describe it.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
When I was playing, you do adopt rivalries.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
I was actually talking to a couple of the coaches
last night about this. Like when I was playing for
the Patriots or I was playing for the Chargers. I remember,
as a Patriot player, I grew up in New York.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
And so I'm like, why should I hate the Jets.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
But after a year of football playing in New England,
man that I hate the Jets. And then you know,
you go on and you move on to San Diego
at the time where the Chargers were playing, and.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
I'm like, why would I ever hate the Raiders.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
Well, after a single game against the Raiders, I was like, oh, yeah,
I hate the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Like it's just it makes sense all of a sudden.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
So even though these players are kind of being introduced
to these rivalries, in many cases, some of them grow
up in it.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
There's no question. Like you mentioned the Apple Cup.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
I mean, some of the players obviously are from you
know the area that they're recruited from, you know, Oregon area,
Pacific Northwest. They care about Oregon football or they care
about you know, Oregon State football, and so they may
have an allegiance one side or the other and then
they join that team or maybe even sometimes the opposite
side of that allegiance and they don't get recruited by
(05:19):
the one side and there's bad blood there, then well,
i'll tell you what, you adopt it quick if you
don't have any of those allegiances and it does become
extremely meaningful.
Speaker 6 (05:30):
It's weird from a betting standpoint because we're used to
these games at the end of the year, when we
know exactly what these teams are, and then we use
the rivalry as kind of a pivot like wow, like
let's take Washington Washington State. Washington lost so much from
last year, they've had this really bad year, You're getting
this discount on them and then oh, by the way,
(05:52):
now they play Washington State and it's like, well.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
It's a massive game.
Speaker 6 (05:57):
So it just changes the dynamic when we don't have
enough games to really grade what these teams are.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
And then you throw in.
Speaker 6 (06:05):
The transfer portal, you throw in the fact that the
conference religned, Like we had a conference game last night Arizona,
CA State that didn't count in the conference standing. Yeah,
but it was like so, it's just there's so many
nuances and just new things to digest with this season,
and this is just another one, Like dealing with rivalry
(06:25):
games in mid September is just another add it to
the long list.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Of changes that we're seeing in college football. Yeah, I'm
just trying to think of some of the Normally you
see like say Michigan and Ohio State at the end
of the season, but imagine if they're in different conferences
and that's the third game of the year. Crazy, you'd
be like, whoa, whoa, things are way different over here,
and yeah, you gotta adjust, you got to recalibrate. I
(06:52):
don't want to hear anything about Notre Dame today. No,
we're not going to talk about it unless there's a
pick at the end of the show. That's it. I
don't want to hear anything about Notre Dame, nothing about
anything that's the color green, nothing about Irish. What about huskies? Yeah,
that Husky's all you want because they deserve it. What
an ugly loss last week for Notre Dame. Man, how
(07:14):
do you lose to Northern Illinois. I'll tell you what.
The one little little silver lining in that is that
I didn't get clobbered again live betting Notre Dame to
win like I did a couple of years ago when
they got smacked by Marshall. You know, I got a
couple of texts like we got to go Notre Dame.
Money line here right, And I'm like, you know, I
(07:34):
got crushed a couple of years ago. I'm not convinced.
So at least I didn't lose money of my team
getting upset like that. Oh my gosh.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
But that game is a is a perfect example of
how weird of a football season this is going to be.
We're still in the early parts, you know, over the past,
you know, less than a handful of years, in the
early parts of this realignment, but also this this weird nil.
Speaker 5 (08:01):
And transfer transfer portal space. We exist in now.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
When you have a situation where players can come from
anywhere and play anywhere, and basically at any moment, you
can have complete roster changeover. You can have teams who
look at their players and their talent, they say, we
got to do something completely different this year because hey,
we have this quarterback and his skill set doesn't really
(08:25):
jibe with what we do offensively. Or we have this
you know, defensive back, you know, a safety or a
corner that really changes the dynamic of the way we
can call a defense or an edge rusher or what
have you. A running back like you don't know what
you're gonna get. It's like Christmas gifts under the tree,
and once the portal closes, you're like, okay, so here's
(08:47):
our roster. What can we do with it? And and
I you they kind of snuck up on Notre Dame,
who is riding high and respect to Notre Dame, because
let's not forget what they did week one.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
That was an impressive victory.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
But you cannot allow a win to carry over to
a second week the same way you cannot allow a loss.
Speaker 5 (09:10):
To carry over to a second week.
Speaker 6 (09:12):
You guys are ready for some crazy stats from the
first two weeks.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Oh yeah, yeah, six ranked teams have lost two unranked teams.
Speaker 6 (09:19):
That's the most through two weeks into a season since
two thousand. Okay, six of the top seven teams now
are in the SEC of the A People. Okay, that
is in the eighty nine year history of the A People.
That's the first time that has ever happened. That's where
six of the top seven are in the same conference.
And how about this, the former PAC twelve doesn't exist anymore.
(09:43):
Twenty one and two straight up three and zero against
the SEC. Two outright dog wins. So that just speaks
to Rich's point. When you have transfer portal, when you
have conference realignment, it shuffles the decks so much.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
And you've been at the blackjack table.
Speaker 6 (09:58):
After that shuffle comes, you don't know what's gonna dealer
could be going ACE ten right out of the gate.
So we're seeing this just complete reshuffling of the entire
college football deck. And so far SEC still on top.
But obviously there are a lot of really good teams
unranked teams. The transfer portal creates so much volatility. I've
(10:21):
noticed that the teams that are the older teams with
more experience that have guys that have been there. Those
are the teams that are a little bit steadier. And
then you get these transfer portal teams. The volatilities off
the charts because you just don't know what they're gonna be.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Yeah, it's interesting to me because take a team like Washington,
they lost a lot of talent. Yeah, and a lot
of times the knee jerk reaction is, well, they've lost
a lot, They've taken a couple steps back, and it's like,
not necessarily maybe, but I think sometimes we look at
you lost a lot of talent, is well, man, you're
(10:57):
clearly lacking. Maybe the young guys can play. It happens
in the NFL the coaches, Yeah, where it's like, oh
they lost this offensive linemen. It's like, hey, maybe the
first round rookie hits the ground running. You know, it
happens in college as well. Hey, this is a special
day for Countdown to kickoff. We're live here at the Wharf, DC,
(11:17):
So if you're listening locally, head on down here. We're

(12:04):

the Washington Commanders, hanging out with us. Yeah, a couple
of years with the Minnesota Vikings. He'll be here. He's
signing autographs, he's hanging out. We'll do an interview with
him next hour. So that is what ten twenty Eastern time.
(12:25):
If you're looking forward to that. I thought about you, too, Rich,
because Fred is such a charismatic guy. You know, you
get these questions as a former NFL player all the
time where it's like, who was the toughest D lineman
to block? Who is the best teammate you have rich
Who is the guy you would hang out with? Right,
any guy that you crossed pads with in the NFL
(12:48):
where you're like, he's at the top list, I would
hang out with him.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
I mean the name that comes easiest and always will
when it comes to like best teammate is a guy
like Philip Rivers, who, even though he was a starting
quarterback and a great one and one of those types
of players who you would assume was a little bit
I don't want to say untouchable in terms of trying
to spend time with because you know, there's fame that
(13:14):
comes with greatness, and there's obviously a.
Speaker 5 (13:17):
Lot of attention that comes with that.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Tom Brady had a hard time walking around Boston or
doing things outside of the Patriots facility because I mean,
he was a superstar. He was a rock star a
little bit, and I think there was a little bit
of an aura around him, and so it didn't make
him a bad guy, but he had to handle that well.
Philip Rivers had such an approachable attitude that when you
(13:39):
met him, you immediately felt like he was one of
your old buddies, you know, back from high school or
college and you're just catching up. And he legitimately would
make efforts to go with his offensive line and grab
a burger. I mean, typically offensive lineman. We hang amongst
ourselves were like unngulates were grazing in pastures, you know
what I mean, And like you know, we're sitting at
(14:01):
we're chewing, we're chewing cut and moving people out of
the way. So a lot of times that's our that's
our crew. But but yeah, I've had some great quarterbacks
in my time, and those are always the guys you
want to stick closest with because you're protecting them every
step of the way.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
You guys didn't get bombarded when you were out with
Phil River seems like a pretty approachable guy. I in
the BOWLO time. Yeah, I can see that. But man,
you didn't have fans that are like cold, I get it,
auto grab Phil. You didn't have that when you were
out with them.
Speaker 5 (14:29):
Rich he had this move where he would pull his
hat all.
Speaker 4 (14:33):
The way over his eyes, and what I assume a
lot of people thought was he would be a lot
bigger than compared to us.
Speaker 5 (14:41):
He was like this, this skinny little guy.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
So I think a lot of people are like, hey,
are you guys, Like, do you guys play like offensive
line or defensive line with the Chargers, you know, because
we're hanging around San Diego and we'd be like, yeah,
nice to meet you, taking a couple of pictures, and
a lot of times they would just assume that he
was like, you know, somebody's brother who we brought along.
Like I'm not kidding, Like he wouldn't get recognized that way,
because you know, he tried to stay out of the
(15:04):
way a little bit.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
But there were people who would come up and.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Be like, hey, Phil, great game last week, and he
would give him the old you know salute, and and
people allowed him to do his thing, you know. And
also San Diego very different vibe than Boston.
Speaker 6 (15:17):
Yes, you know, so six ' five Philip Rivers looks
small compared to Rich.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
He's like a dwarf compared to Rich. You know. I'll
tell you a real fast story because I was at
the draft when it was in Vegas. Yeah, and so
the first round ends and uh or that day I
was just walking around and I'm just walking down the
street and that's it's by the ferress wheel and there's
a lot of stuff there, yep, the link. And I
look over and it was Trevor Lawrence and he's just walking.
(15:49):
He's like speed walking the other way, and I'm like,
that's a smart move because no one's gonna stop you.
It's like a movie if you're in like a like
the Middle East or something, and they drive super fast, so
anybody else driving that fast stands out. I think that's
what you have to do as an NFL quarterback, right,
you just you go warp speed and if someone's running,
(16:10):
it's like, okay, I would stay away from all of
those guys.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Yeah, would, There's no doubt.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
And and by the way, when you see a person
like a Trevor Lawrence by himself in the wild, like
that's a big man, so it's hard to escape your size,
you know what I mean, you're not getting away from that,
so he'll get more easily recognized. But certain guys, man,
you know, baseball cap, maybe maybe they pull the hood
up on their sweatshirt and all of a sudden, you know,
you're like, oh, yeah, that's that's just that's just a.
Speaker 5 (16:38):
Guy who's really good at YMCA basketball.
Speaker 6 (16:40):
Maybe, like you know, you have an advantage in football.
You have the helmet covering your face. You don't always
know the facial you know, features of someone.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Dude.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
That's my favorite thing to do. It's it's not what's
the the game where you guess who? No, it's like
who played for the Washington Commanders in the.
Speaker 6 (16:57):
Moment, like the like the grid right, yeah yeah, Accolte Grim,
immaculate Grim.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
My favorite thing is to go on Pro Football Reference
and they'll just have twelve little tiny profile pictures of
these NFL players, and so many times I'm like, who
is this guy? It's like, oh, shoot, he was a
star lineback? Always elude me at football? Can you only
see the mat face Matt? You know, because I hear
(17:22):
this all the times, like they're worrying helmets, Like I
know what these guys look like. There are plenty of
players that you know no idea and you don't know
him from their profile picture at all.
Speaker 6 (17:31):
Really, if you walk past me on the street, I
have no idea who you are.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
But that's exactly right. A lot unless I was wearing
my number.
Speaker 6 (17:38):
If you're wearing a Fox Sports radio shirt. I'd be
able to pick you out of a crowd though.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
Yeah, yeah, we'll play that game a little bit later today.
I'm glancing at it right now, and I can normally
get like one or two. I might go over it today.
I don't know if I have anybody that's not on
the picks. Yeah, you guys been killing it in the
picks the last two weeks. I'm a little nervous, man,
I'm a little nervous. You guys had picked up your games.
The hot streak going. Hey, we've got Rich Ornberger, Penn

little bit. But this is an interesting game. You wouldn't
quite say it's a rivalry game, but it's one of
these games. Conference game, bigger matchup surprise last weekend. We'll

Speaker 6 (20:32):
The three sixty nice camera spin to feel like I'm like,
you know, one of the movie stars on the red.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
Carpet there, or like I always think of Brian Kelly. Yeah,
I think of Brian Kelly with the three sixty spin
right there.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (20:46):
No, we're gonna wray a recruit.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
Do you want to share a tiny little platform stage
with Yeah, he.
Speaker 6 (20:54):
Has like three hundred and sixty pound recruit and what
Brian Kelly like a buck eighty.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
Right, and Lane Kiffin just clown you know, that's what
I think of with coach just clowning coaches. We need
more of that. Lane has the market cornered right there?
How about you didn't even plan this, but Brian Kelly,
you go. LSU Tigers. They're taken on South Carolina today
and that was one of the bigger surprises last week.
(21:18):
If you look at South Carolina, they barely beat Old
Dominion in their first game, and then last week they're
almost ten point underdogs. South Carolina at Kentucky and they
laid the wood on Kentucky. My good, that was a
beatdown thirty one to six. South Carolina beat Kentucky last week.
(21:39):
So South Carolina hosting LSU today. We'll start with you, Jared,
what are you looking at in this one?
Speaker 6 (21:44):
Well, again, you mentioned the game against Kentucky. Kentucky is
a very different team this year without Liam Cohen THEROC,
so I don't want to overreact to that game, but
I'll be honest. South Carolina defense, that pass rushers, dynamic,
Ken Saxson two games, the kid to keep it on.
Today's the five star Dylan Stewart flashing on the edge LSU.
(22:05):
I'm concerned with the offense. They ran for sixty one
yards last week against Nickel State. That is not a
good rushing result against Nickel State. There is zero respect
for Garrett nus Meyer in the RPO game. They're really
missing Jayden Daniels. Oh, by the way, Justin Emery, their
best back now out with an ACL injury.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Whatever happened to Jayden Daniels.
Speaker 6 (22:24):
Yeah, he's not bad here in Washington, right. We'll get
to him a little later in the show. But I
think the biggest concern that I see with this game
for LSU's offense is how the defensive coordinator, Clayton White
for South Carolina likes to structure his defense. They like
to play a lot of zone. And nus Myer's not
great in the intermediate game. So if you're not establishing
the run and the play action is not going to work,
(22:46):
and you're not good with the intermediate routes against his
own defense, and there's no RPO game to speak of, Like,
how is LSU going to generate sustained offense in this game.
That's why we've seen the number come off seven. Now
we're seeing LSU as just a six point road fare.
But I'll be honest, I don't think I want to
lay points with this LSU offense on the road.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Well, I will say.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
This, one of their strengths is the strength that you
want to see come together early in the season, and
that's your offensive line.
Speaker 5 (23:12):
And LSU's got a good one.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
And so this is going to be a tall task
for a game Cocks defense that has some talent up front.
But when you have a talented group offensively on the
offensive line, when you can move people off the ball
and you can protect your quarterback, good things will happen.
Because even though this is a passing game now, it
is still a line of scrimmage sport. You gotta win
in the trenches. So favor Tigers on that side of
(23:37):
the ball in terms of in terms of the trenches.
Speaker 5 (23:40):
Now, look at the defense.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
Kelly is tweaking things defensively, and not only for bad reasons,
for some good They have some young players who are
playing way over their head to start the season who
they can't keep off the field. So they're starting to
look at maybe using some more four to three looks,
have more linebackers on the field, and make some adjustments
where they may be moving one of their players who
(24:05):
is playing down in the box out to safety so
they could get three linebackers on the field at all times.
We'll see how that works against South Carolina. But this
is what I was talking about earlier when I mentioned
early season tinkering. You're seeing this all across the sport
because of the transfer portal, because of the recruits you
bring in. Nobody knows who they are yet. And so
(24:26):
the Tigers, especially with the start, they've had some good,
some bad. They're trying to figure it out too, So
that's an area to exploit things. You're gonna have new
faces and new places on that defense. Yeah, you know,
it's funny.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
Rich and you two, Jared Is we talk a lot
and just name the game, especially in college football, where
how are they gonna match points?
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (24:47):
You know you say that in the NFL also at
times too, like hey, how are they gonna match points?
How are they gonna be able to go toe to toe?
You could talk about Wisconsin, how are they gonna match
points with Alabama today?
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Right?
Speaker 3 (25:00):
But think about this game with LSU and South Carolina
and flip that where it's not just about matching points,
it's about matching defense. And South Carolina has flashed a
lot more in these first couple of games than LSU has.
You look at LSU in the first two games, they
gave up twenty seven to USC, they gave up twenty
one last week to Nichols and fcs T. Not good.
(25:23):
It's not good at all. And so that's what I
think about, Like South Carolina holding Kentucky to six points
last week.
Speaker 6 (25:30):
Yeah, even without Liam Cohen, it's impressed.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
That's really impressive. And so that's what I wonder is
can LSU match South Carolina's defense because it's not just
about matching points.
Speaker 6 (25:41):
Yeah, I like, I'll be honest, I really like the
South Carolina defense. I think they are gonna fly around
the field today. And Rich, I'm glad you mentioned the
old line. I noticed the offensive line strength for LSU
as well. But here's the concern for me. If you
have that big of an edge up front. Last week,
they're two Jackson and Williams combined for just twelve rushing attempts. Now,
(26:04):
this is against Nickels State and nuss Meyer needed thirty
nine dropbacks. If you're facing Nickel State and you've got
and they do have a top ten O line in
the country, are you and I could go back there
and run behind that offensive line and hopefully get more
than twelve attempts. I am playing bully ball against Nickels State,
but they didn't nuss Meyer thirty nine dropbacks. That is
(26:27):
not the recipe for LSU's offense. So if they can't
generate a consistent ground game today against South Carolina, and
I will say, when I dug into South Carolina's defensive numbers,
they're much better at their pressure than they are at
stopping the run. So maybe LSU has a little bit
more success stopping the run today. But man, South Carolina's
got dudes on the edge you can get after it.
(26:48):
So I'm fascinated to see how this cat and mouse
game plays out. If I'm LSU and if I'm Brian Kelly,
I'm lining it up and I'm using my offensive line
as a weapon. But if you didn't use it against
Nickels State, I don't know if it transfers over on
the road in Colombia against another SEC team.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
No, no doubt you talk about dropbacks. You know, this
guy averages at least two dropbacks per hour. You know
it's Isaac Lohenkron. You get him at the top of
the hour, you get him now at the bottom of
the shower. That's right, very efficient. Some would say it's
a little bit like Army's offense. You know, need a
little bit more passing with Isaac lohan Kron, get him
involved a little bit more. But we get him right now.
(27:23):
I low, what is going on, buddy, He's got the
latest right now.
Speaker 8 (27:26):
Good morning fellas.
Speaker 9 (27:27):
In our top headline sports radio history was made just
a short time ago by Fox Sports Radio's Rich Ornberger.
It was the first time the word undulates has been used.
You really you really paid attention during class at Penn
State biology class.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
Well, it's an act school, so it makes sense. But yeah,
you know, just large cut chewing animals that really sweep
over the large swat of the middle of this of
this country. You know, you have you have the undulates,
the beef, the bovine.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
That's that's what they're talking.
Speaker 9 (28:03):
Fine, here's how you just throttled my fellow Big ten
education Now at USC, I'm like, did he mean unduly
like to turn around really fast.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
No no, no, no, no no no no, So who
knows you the kibe matumbo?
Speaker 2 (28:24):
Now no no no, yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
This is that's a real live word.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
Go look it up.
Speaker 8 (28:29):
I did look it up?
Speaker 3 (28:31):
Actually did?
Speaker 8 (28:31):
I actually did? I'm like, is it with a D?
Speaker 9 (28:34):
So kudos to you who knows how Penn State and
USC will do on the football field in the future.
But you've got us in terms of agricultural knowledge. Onto
a different type of grass, the grass of the fields
of Major League Baseball. Aaron Judge of the Yankees a
grand slam of the bottle of the seventh inning on
Friday night to lift them past the Red Sox five
(28:55):
to four. I was judges major league leading fifty second
home run of the season. Hunter Good to the Colorado
Rockies a game winning grand slam in the bottom of
the eighth inning for a nine to five victory over
the Cubs. It was his second home run of the game.
He would finish with seven RBI. Cincinnati's Elie de la
Cruz a grand slam in their eight to four win
at Minnesota. In non grand slam related action, Seattle's Julio
(29:19):
Rodriguez a game winning three run home run of the
bottom of the eighth inning to give them a five
to four win over Texas. The Milwaukee Brewers a two
to one win at Arizona, so their magic number to
clinch the nl Central down to five. The San Diego
Padres a five to nothing victory at San Francisco. Dylan
cees K ten and six shutout innings for his thirteenth
victory of the season.
Speaker 8 (29:38):
Finally fell as in the NFL.
Speaker 9 (29:40):
And this is especially because you guys are in the Washington,
DC area, Big Art, Whose private plane is that?
Speaker 8 (29:47):
Ryan?
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Jared?
Speaker 3 (29:50):
My girlfriend?
Speaker 6 (29:51):
It's just Southwest flight.
Speaker 9 (29:55):
Ah, yes, my private jets have been Southwest for many,
many years.
Speaker 6 (29:59):
Anyway, are you an A or A B boarding group there?
Speaker 8 (30:03):
The best I've ever done is B thirty one?
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Come on, do you face forward or backwards?
Speaker 9 (30:09):
I literally, I literally check in twenty four hours exactly
before my flight, and I've never gotten better than B
thirty one.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
But anyway, breaked against you, I know.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
By the way.
Speaker 9 (30:21):
The big article today in the Washington Post detailing the
new Washington Commander's owner Josh Harris, has had to fix
way more infrastructure issues at the team stadium in practice
facility than he thought he would have to do when
he first bought the team, including get this, them not
having a play clock on their practice field, meaning their
(30:43):
quarterbacks did not know how many seconds they had to
practice getting in and out of the huddle. Harris quickly
had play clocks installed.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Back to you, guys, man, great stuff. It is Fox
Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by BETMGM.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Man.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
If I was Josh Harris, I would just lean into
that where it's like, hey, this previous regime. You know,
Daniel Snyder, I've had to fix way more.
Speaker 6 (31:11):
Than I've sent him a chick sentim an invoice. Yeah, hey,
you should have had this years ago.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
Yeah. No, it's a it's a good, good place to
be right there by the way. How how ugly is
it with Ilo? He's talking about all the Grand Slams
in baseball. I'll tell you a sport. As soon as
you start to like like poke your chest out like
I knew it, and I didn't have any bets on
baseball now that football's around it, like you're just like
(31:35):
I knew the Yankees offense really struggling over here. They
can't score runs. And then Judge just blasts a Granny.
Speaker 6 (31:42):
Fifty two home runs and a long drought too, A
long games, a sixteen sixty game.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
It's the longest drought that anybody's had during a fifty
home run season. And like you said, still with fifty
two absolutely since yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
And show Hey doing his thing, he's gonna get to fifty.
Speaker 6 (32:03):
The two MVPs we have in the league's Show Hay
and Judge, we might live another hundred years. We might
never see two players playing at the same time like
that with that kind of dominance.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
By the way, I hope I live another hundred years.
But Dave Roberts enters the chat as being coy, where
he's like, yeah, you show Hey maybe pitches in the
postseason out that would be unbelievable. Yeah, gosh, well wild.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
He's been working on it all season and that's the
that's so, like you said, the craziest part about it,
which show I understand Aaron Judge fifty two ridiculous Grand
Slam last night.
Speaker 5 (32:39):
That's heroic stuff.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
But when you think about what show Hay's doing, not
only is he doing this getting back from an elbow surgery, but.
Speaker 5 (32:48):
Also he's doing it.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
He's doing it while he's taking he's taking time out
of his day to go throw from the mound on backfields,
you know, throw simulated games. I don't know what he's
up to when he's away from from from baseball, but
or should say away from the game. But they're getting
him ready to pitch. He is like no other athlete
we've ever seen. He's gonna steal fifty bases too.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
It's insane. Can I give you a how could I
say this? I'm gonna give you a mini rant in
response to a rant that hasn't even taken place yet. Wow,
this is a pre rant. It's right, a pre rant.
Speaker 6 (33:24):
First, there's another radio Fox Sports radio history happening, right.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
I can foresee a rant coming in the not too
distant future that I'm going to die ran.
Speaker 6 (33:31):
This is this is Brian, We've been working together over
two years.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
This is I'm impressed, pre rant. I'm impressed. I guarantee you,
when Shohy starts pitching again, what's the likelihood that he's
gonna have another fifty to fifty season even if he
stopped pitching right, Like you.
Speaker 6 (33:46):
Would think this is a rare I would say, maybe
never again.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
So when he starts pitching and doesn't reach fifty to fifty,
it's gonna be like, well, I mean, what could he
be doing hitting the ball right if he wasn't pitching it.
It's like, that's not necessarily why point he's not reaching
the fifty fifthes goes.
Speaker 6 (34:04):
For and go sub three era and people could be like,
wh I could have gone fitting right?
Speaker 3 (34:10):
It's pitching is holding his hitting back? Ridiculous, It's crazy.
We got Rich Ornberger, Penn State All American, Jared Smith
FSR betting analyst. I'm Brian know if your local head
on down here. We're at the Wharf d C. So
it's the transit Peer nine to seventy Wharf Street Southwest.
A lot of goodies to give away. We're giving away
sweet tickets, you can go see an upcoming NFL game, restaurant,
(34:34):
gift cards, concert tickets. Fred Smoot will be here. That's
in about forty minutes. I'm stoked.
Speaker 6 (34:40):
I can't wait to ask him about what's going on
in college football too. He's gotta have opinions. Former SEC guy,
that's ATA movement, you know what?
Speaker 3 (34:47):
His former teammate Antonio Pierce, Yeah, Raiders head coach. He
had some thoughts about to uh retiring, and I'm curious
what Fred has to say about that. So he'll be
hearing about forty minutes. Head on down transit at the wharf.
We're here until noon, so hurry on down right. Lots
of giveaways, all right. Coming up next the parlay platter Man, Jared.
(35:10):
I'll tell you what rich. I knew it from Afar,
because you know, I'm wherever I am, I'm traveling the world,
and Jared is there in Vegas. I knew he put
in hard work to come up with the parlay platter.
And now I see how the sausage is made, you
know what I mean. Now I see the bar grafts
and the pipe charts and ever so we'll see what
he has for us. Coming up next to parlay Platter,
(35:32):
it is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff presented by BETMGM.
It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff presented by
bet MGM. Every time you make a wager at BETMGM,
you earn BETMGM Rewards points that can be redeemed for
things like bonus bets and converted to MGM rewards points
that can be used towards dining shows and hotel rooms
(35:54):
and over twenty MGM resorts. Alright, let's do this.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Check this out, Arlay letter.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Oh that's right. The first live event parlay platter? Is
that correct?
Speaker 6 (36:09):
I think they might have done one in Sincy when
we went to the Reds Ballpark, but that was an
NFL Sunday because it was after the college season.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
That's that was the twenty five to one long shot
that you hit it? Right?
Speaker 5 (36:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (36:20):
I think so.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
Yeah, I think that's the one.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
You're right.
Speaker 6 (36:23):
Oh yeah, Actually, live event parlays we've been we're doing
o if we hit one today. If we hit one today,
I'll be impressed. Let's start with the Shoela Bowl.
Speaker 10 (36:31):
Man.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
I love this game.
Speaker 6 (36:33):
I used to work at FAU. I'm a big fan
of the Owls. But we're fading them today. We're going
FIU on the money line at FAUD. I know well
the Owls. You saw that game against Michigan State Camp
Francher did not look good.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
I do not like this FAU offense.
Speaker 6 (36:46):
And hey, if you look at FIU, the running game
can cause some damage.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
They're two to zero against the spread.
Speaker 6 (36:52):
They whooped Central Michigan last week fifty two to sixteen
absolute beat down. They did lose it Indiana, but they
covered that game, so we had a big cover against
Central Michigan, big win loss and a cover against Indiana.
FAU looked awful against Army last week, zero to two
straight up on the season. They lost by seventeen as
a one point favorite against Army and they could not
(37:14):
move the football against Armies defense. I think FYU again
high variance rivalry game. They're about a four and a
half point underdog. Forget about the points. We will take
the money line with the Panthers. How about UCLA later
tonight a big ten Conference game at the Rose Bowl
between UCLA and Indiana. I go back in time twenty
years and you say that to someone, they think you're
(37:35):
gonna be absolutely nuts. But this is a big step
up in class for the Hoosiers. They beat Western Illinois
last week seventy seven to three. What is that final score?
Yet Western Illinois was zero to eleven in the FCS
last year, so I wouldn't look too much into that.
I really like this UCLA defense. They're the best unit
on the field. Their top twenty on early downs, ten sacks,
twenty four pressures against Hawaii, They've been on the by.
(37:57):
They went to Hawaii two weeks ago, they were down
at half, came back nice second half comeback. I think
they used that buy to their advantage. Eric Bienemy, you
guys remember him here in DC.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
He's the OC for UCLA.
Speaker 6 (38:08):
I think that UCLA offense really has a step up
against Indiana defense today.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
So well with the Bruins.
Speaker 6 (38:12):
About a three point dog on the money line as well.
And finally we talked about this game earlier. South Carolina
money line against LSU. I like the defense for the
game Cocks, it's all about the ded The five star
kid Dylan Stewart's been flashing off the edge ten sacks
in two games. We'll see if Garrett Nelsmeyer and this
LSU offense can get any push up front. We know
(38:34):
the offensive line is good, but the running back room
is depleted, so we'll go South Carolina. On the money line,
they're about a six point dog. Ucla on the money
line about a three point dog. And in the Shoe
La Bowl we're going FYU on the money line, they're
about a four and a half point underdog. This parlay
pays out over seventeen to one. Wow at bet MGM
(38:55):
not a bad price for those three dogs you.
Speaker 4 (38:58):
Took, you took Ucla, that that big ten conference.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
Match up there. I like the Bruins today.
Speaker 4 (39:04):
Okay, yeah, I actually think I agree with that because
you can't really read into the first two wins for Indiana.
They played nobody so far and UCLA's only played once.
But Ucla they return a lot of players who were
productive for them last season, and I would peg that
Bruins defense as the difference maker. That's going to be
(39:27):
real difficult for Indiana to take a look at, especially
when they were playing against you know, Western Illinois, you know,
and and f IU just just weeks ago. So this
is gonna be a tough matchup for the Hoosiers on
the road.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
Man, the cloves are off when you're fading FAU.
Speaker 6 (39:46):
I know, yeah, Franchure and watch that game you get
knocked around by Army. Yeah you can't score against Army.
You're gonna score against that by you?
Speaker 3 (39:55):
Yeah, I just love that you went. I know, you know,
there's no there is no love life in this court.
But how about Indiana.
Speaker 6 (40:02):
I mean, can we just like close our eyes for
a minute and picture this is a reality. Indiana is
going to the Rose Bowl tonight. They're a road favored
in the Big ten at the Rose Bowl.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
But it's just Christy A statement makes no sense.
Speaker 4 (40:15):
And by the way, also, you said something that I
was not aware was real. F A U F I
A you Is it officially or unofficially called the shoebl Oh, It's.
Speaker 6 (40:25):
Officially called the Shoela Bowl one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
And they have like a trophy for it and everything.
Speaker 6 (40:30):
And I've been to that and that stadium Ridge. It's
not the best home field advantage. And you know Boca September, Eh,
don't it's gonna be a It's gonna be a sleepy
start there with the Panthers.
Speaker 3 (40:40):
Just tell me you didn't consider putting Purdue on the
money lot? Do you live in person?
Speaker 2 (40:46):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (40:47):
All right? When you can reach out and pun the
first assault on the air, yes, I would have considered that,
you know, no doubt. All Right, We got a lot
to get to here, Fred Smoot coming up this next hour.
We get to one of the big rivalry games today.
(41:07):
Oh what is going on? We are two hours away
from kickoff here live at the Wharf, DC. If your
local head on down here. Transit Pier nine to seventy
Wharf Street Southwest. Lots of giveaways. It's brought to you
by bet MGMs. They're giving away a staycation at the
beautiful MGM National Harbor Casino. Gorgeous, just giving it away.
(41:29):
You want to stay, stay for free? Now we got you.
Speaker 6 (41:31):
Let's be honest. I was, I was not. I didn't
know what to expect last night. It looked like a
Vegas casino.
Speaker 3 (41:36):
It's aw Vegas fantastic. They've got free bet codes, so
if your local come on down here. We'll get you
some free bet codes. Bet with betemgm's money, seut of
your own money. Yeah, that's always like you. It's the
best way to do it right there. Fred Smoot's gonna
be with us here in less than twenty minutes. Can't
wait to talk to him. And they're also giving away
restaurant gift cards, concert tickets. They're giving away sweet tickets
(42:01):
also tickets to an upcoming NFL football game. So definitely
want to come down here. It's beautiful. We're not just
saying that.
Speaker 6 (42:07):
Gorgeous outside too. I'm used to the one hundred degree
heat in Vegas. It's nice, little seventy degrees on the water,
little breeze.
Speaker 3 (42:16):
Gorgeous right here. You know, before we get into the
rivalry games, we want to get to Oregon and Oregon State.
I'm just curious where you guys stand on Tua Toungua
Vai Looa. Because Tua got concussed again, his third diagnosed
concussion in the last three years. We know it's been
more than that, right what happened against Buffalo a couple
(42:36):
of years ago when they said it was his back
in back that was hurt, which was ridiculous. But I'm
just curious where you guys are at. I'll give you
my two cents real fast. I hear a lot of
people saying what Tua should do, Tua should do, what
Tua wants to do. Totally agree. That's the thing is
if he wants to hang it up and retire and
(42:58):
say it's too much of a risk, God bless him.
But if he says, you know what, I know it's
a risk. But I've consulted with the doctors. They've told
me this, this is the picture. Maybe he changes his
style of play a bit where you got to get
rid of the ball quicker if you're in the pocket
and he's done a better job of that. And if
you scramble, you gotta get down and not take that punishment.
(43:19):
If he alters the way he plays a little bit,
wants to give it one more go, God bless him too.
I just don't understand these people telling Tua what he
should do. It's different if you said, if he asked me,
and I'm advising you, this is what I would advise
him to do. It's way different to say he should
hang it up, he should no longer play football. That's
his decision to make.
Speaker 4 (43:40):
Yeah, look, there's gonna be a lot of people with
a lot of opinions about everything, right. You know, if
you're looking for an opinion you don't have to go
very far to get it these days, especially with the
advent of social media and podcasting. Everybody is their own
radio host these days. But what I think a lot
of people aren't understanding with this situation is this is
(44:01):
a deeply, deeply personal decision that Tua has to make,
and I don't I don't even limit that to like
or I wouldn't say. I wouldn't say it's just Toua.
It's his family too, but it's mostly Toua. When I
was trying to decide whether or not I wanted to
continue playing. I was asking everybody, Hey, should I retire?
(44:22):
Should I retire? And I was asking the people I
trust the most, you know, my wife, my parents, other
family members, and nobody could give me the answer I
was looking for, which is I wanted somebody to tell
me it was time. You know, hey, step away, you've
been You're too hurt, You've you've gone through too many injuries,
like That's what I wanted to hear, but nobody was
going to give me that satisfaction. And I'm I'm so
(44:46):
thankful that they gave me the space to process this,
because when an athlete lays down the sword and they
finished their career, you do kind of die a death.
I remember grieving my football career the same way I've
greefed the loss.
Speaker 5 (45:01):
Of some family members.
Speaker 4 (45:02):
Like it's one of, if not the most defining characteristic
about me was that baked inside of me was this
football player. And then at some point you got to
take that part of your life, put it on a shelf,
and you never.
Speaker 5 (45:16):
Get to see it again. That's a weird feeling.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
Man.
Speaker 4 (45:19):
So for Tua, I'm sure he's heard a lot of
the commentary, but the reality is he should listen to
none of it. He should make this decision on his
own because that's the only person who this really truly affects,
and he needs to come to terms with whether or
not he plays another snap of football or this is
the end.
Speaker 5 (45:37):
And by the way, both decisions are the right decision
because it's his decision.
Speaker 6 (45:42):
Yeah, I don't have as much context as Rich obviously
does here.
Speaker 3 (45:47):
I think when you're dealing.
Speaker 6 (45:48):
With head injuries, it feels different than an ACL or
a shoulder right, Like it's just whereas guys probably have
played through things. Rich, I'm sure you know if it
was a head thing, would you have reconsidered quicker before
things got to the point or was it all you know, shoulders,
(46:09):
knees and toes that were kind of achy? Because I
think the head part of it, that's your brain, Like,
that's it, that's how you think, that's how you function,
That is everything about your life runs through your brain
and your consciousness.
Speaker 3 (46:23):
And if that becomes part of the element that's in.
Speaker 6 (46:27):
Question, it accelerates my decision making, like I would be
out much quicker. But again, I don't get knocked around
like these guys do every week. I don't know what
they're going through, but I think the brain part of
it makes it a little bit more intense.
Speaker 3 (46:41):
Well, this is why I would blend what you just said,
Jared and what Rich just said, because I think that's
what makes it so difficult to walk away for good.
Sure to retire is think about it. If you compare
it to a knee or a shoulder, you just there's
a body part that you're just dragging around and it's
(47:02):
limiting your play. With a head injury, it's different because Tua,
you give it a week or two, even today, he
might feel fine. He might feel it's just weird. Yeah,
but it's different than like, listen, man, I've lost a
couple of steps. I'm in year sixteen. In my arms,
it's a little bit right bulky.
Speaker 6 (47:22):
I can't throw it as deep as I know I could.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
All that type of stuff, like I'm just dragging around
my lower body. I've had so many injuries and so
many surgeries. Tua's had a couple of diagnosed concussions and
probably feels fine.
Speaker 6 (47:37):
And that's the fencing with the hands is I know
it always gets me.
Speaker 3 (47:42):
I know it is. It's really scary, and it's very
very serious. I'm not saying it's not, it's just it's
got to be so difficult to make that decision to
potentially retire and walk away for good when you feel fine,
like that's normally not the way it goes.
Speaker 4 (47:57):
In twenty twelve, I saw with Arizona Cardinals. I was
coming off my final year with the Patriots where I
was on the season ending injury reserve with a concussion.
So when I signed with Arizona Cardinals and a lot
of people would say this is a stupid decision, but
I wanted to play football so bad, and they wanted
(48:18):
protection against being liable for a head injury. That I
actually signed a piece of paper that if I had
reported a head injury at any point during the twenty
twelve season, they could void my contract, so it absolved
them of any future medical care for me if I
ended up with a concussion. It was a one year deal,
(48:39):
so it was a little bit of a measured risk.
There were obvious rewards, but I was taking my health
into my own hands and putting ink to paper and
not going to be offered a potential workers compensation. Whatever
you want to talk about post career with Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 5 (48:58):
But I wanted to play football so badly.
Speaker 4 (49:00):
I would make that sacrifice again today because, like I said,
when you're a football player, it is who you are.
Speaker 5 (49:08):
It's baked into your identity.
Speaker 4 (49:10):
Imagine if Tua walks away, is he twenty six I
believe he's twenty six years old. Imagine if he walks
away from the sport today and he wakes up in
two years and goes, I can still play, what am
I doing? I mean, you would be living with a
mountain of regret.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
Now.
Speaker 4 (49:25):
Yeah, on the other side of that, we're talking risk reward.
Maybe you've taken too many hits to the head, and
maybe there's negative in that too, But there's also negative
in regret. And so I don't want to live in
a world where hypotheticals are going to haunt me at night.
Speaker 3 (49:41):
I want to live in a world.
Speaker 4 (49:42):
Where, you know, I make decisions for myself, and I
know that I've kind of uncovered every stone I needed to.
And so again, this is a deeply personal decision, and
I understand a lot of the opinions about how he
should retire come from the right place.
Speaker 2 (49:57):
But Tua's got to do what's right for TUA.
Speaker 3 (49:59):
Yeah, let me shift it before we get to Fred Smoot,
who's live with us coming up here in ten minutes.
How about the Civil War or the artist formerly? Are
we allowed to call it that? I'm not sure if
these days, I don't know if that's the case or not.
But hey, man, number nine, Oregon against Oregon State, and listen,
(50:19):
there have been disappointing teams, my irish or pretty disappointingment
Oregon's got to be the most disappointing to undefeated team
right yeah, where they barely got by Idaho and then
last week last week didn't work out well for me
against Boise Insanity broke out in that Boise exe. He
he's awesome. But that Oregon rush defense has not been awesome.
(50:43):
We'll see if they're better today against Oregon State. How
about that? Just think about that sentence, Man, Oregon's rush
defense not the greatest. They're facing the Beaves today, you know,
like that you're gonna get tested as far as that goes.
Speaker 2 (50:55):
Yeah, but they're they're the remade Beafs. You know. They
redid that offensive.
Speaker 4 (50:58):
Line and they have a pair of running backs out
of that backfield that are pretty darn good.
Speaker 5 (51:04):
I got to see them a week ago.
Speaker 4 (51:07):
I was on the call for Oregon State, and I'm
watching these two running backs, Hankerson and Griffin do their thing,
and that's a potent rushing attack, and it's behind a
very solid offensive line, a lot of new faces playing
with each other, but there's some consistency there. And like
you mentioned, and you pointed out perfectly against Boise State,
(51:27):
that was a long, hard day for the Ducks. So
if that rush defense doesn't hold up, here's the problem.
Oregon State can shorten that game. And so even though
you're in front of your home crowd, when the posing
offense has the ball for that long, that's tough man.
That can take the crowd out of it.
Speaker 6 (51:45):
Yeah, I was close. I was close to taking the
points with Oregon State. I'm glad I didn't because it's
all the way up to seventeen now, and it was sixteen.
It was actually fourteen last week, and now it's all
the way up to seventeen, and like I'm trying to
wrap my head around the market, Oregon looks terrible.
Speaker 3 (52:02):
They're giving up sacks left and right. He gave up.
Speaker 6 (52:05):
Seven point seven yards for rush to Jenkie last week,
outside the top seventy five in rushing efficiency, giving up sacks.
Speaker 3 (52:12):
All over the yard.
Speaker 6 (52:13):
Oregon State can get after you a little bit defensively too,
So I'm like, oh, wow, fourteen, there's no way that
this gets to the seventeen. You know that little key,
that secondary key number of seventeen in college football.
Speaker 3 (52:23):
Yeah, we're We're already at seventeen.
Speaker 6 (52:25):
So there is a lot of respect in the market
for the Ducks this week.
Speaker 8 (52:31):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (52:32):
I want to take the points with Oregon State, even
the quarterback and rich you saw him last week, McCoy,
the transfermino. He was a Walter Payton Award finalist last year.
They got three guys in the backfield, both backs who,
by the way, Griffin's from Ole, Miss, Hankerson's from Colorado,
high level transfers, and then the quarterback who is an
absolute rock star that can all run around and make plays.
And Oregon can't stop the run and they can't block.
(52:55):
So it feels like a weird market reaction to what
we're saying here, but usually the market tends to sniff
this out. I would not be shocked if Oregon and
Dan lann right that's the key. Dan Lanning's a really
good coach. The things that Oregon isn't doing well, I
think they can be cleaned up right, protection schemes, Dylan Gabriel,
(53:15):
trying to find a little more explosion to the offense
and stopping the run, which is just toughness.
Speaker 3 (53:21):
I think at some point we see.
Speaker 6 (53:22):
A really good organ performance. Market thinks it's going to
be today.
Speaker 3 (53:24):
That's what's crazy about Oregon. You can do all these
mental gymnastics. Yeah, when you're just looking at Oregon, where
I look at it like this, three different categories of
the same team. Okay, what you expected from Oregon, what
their potential is high, it's sky high. And what is
actually happening.
Speaker 6 (53:45):
Bottom barrel right, There's a wide range outcomes there going forward.
Speaker 3 (53:51):
That's what makes it so tricky to try to figure
out what Oregon is gonna be going forward, because that
last week against Boise, Oregon gained all the momentum they're
driving and their third string tight end coughs it up,
fumble Genti house call, Genti's unbelieva negs drive Dylan Gabriel
(54:12):
fumbo and they got a.
Speaker 6 (54:14):
Pun return touchdown in that game too, Like.
Speaker 3 (54:15):
They made play.
Speaker 6 (54:17):
They have dudes who could make plays. But when you
can't stop the run and you can't defend the pass rush,
you're not gonna cover a lot.
Speaker 3 (54:23):
Of numbers in Collle Oregon just turned into like Washington
State last week, where it's just chaos.
Speaker 4 (54:28):
You know, it's like that look out, look out. Also
being in corvallis that game. Yeah, the whole protect the
damn thing. I've been to Corvallis for a game. Watching
the Beafs in front of their home crowd is a
cool experience.
Speaker 2 (54:44):
You know.
Speaker 4 (54:44):
It's definitely one of those picturesque Pacific Northwest college football towns.
And the fans love the Beavers. They got this thing
with this chainsaw, they got the Beaver mascot. They get
that place fired up and revd up real good. And
so it's going to be a hostile environment for again,
as we've discussed what happened on the ground against Boise State,
(55:08):
I mean that was a near That was a near
loss there. So when you're going against a team who's
got pretty good talented quarterback, they struggle pushing the football downfield,
but pretty decent talent a quarterback and a real problem
out of the backfield, man.
Speaker 2 (55:23):
I don't this is one of those games.
Speaker 4 (55:25):
I'm taking a good hard look at this spread, and boy,
if there's a lean, it's decidedly Beavers today.
Speaker 3 (55:32):
Yeah. Wow, at seventeen.
Speaker 6 (55:35):
It's a little bit of an over, it's a larg.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
It's a lot of points. It's a while.
Speaker 3 (55:40):

First of all, welcome to d C.
Speaker 3 (57:16):
Yes's welcome to the Nation's capital.
Speaker 11 (57:18):
You know, I don't think we get enough pub for
the nation's capital.
Speaker 2 (57:21):
On how beautiful it is.
Speaker 11 (57:23):
Like people come, people visit, but people never talk about
the environment.
Speaker 2 (57:27):
This is the one lifetime environment, right, it really is.
Speaker 3 (57:30):
It's awesome and I do appreciate that We're not gonna
talk any Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (57:34):
For yes, we are. You know what that's the thing about.
Speaker 11 (57:38):
Can I ask you this, what's the original environment of
a pigeon?
Speaker 2 (57:43):
Do you know before cities would built?
Speaker 6 (57:44):
No?
Speaker 2 (57:45):
All right, well, no to Dame, it's the same thing.
Speaker 11 (57:47):
They have no natural environment, they have no home, so
they're just floating in the city.
Speaker 3 (57:52):
You want them to be in a conference.
Speaker 2 (57:53):
I want them to be in a com like the
Big Ten.
Speaker 11 (57:55):
Come on, man, when we say Big ten, it's like
not To Dame is just right there saying, you know what,
I want to come in and eat dinner with y'all.
Speaker 2 (58:02):
But I'm just not gonna do it better than that.
Speaker 6 (58:04):
Yeah, Hey, we don't want that fancy NYC.
Speaker 3 (58:06):
They got the peacock.
Speaker 2 (58:07):
Yeah, we don't want to.
Speaker 11 (58:08):
We don't stoop that load to be in the Big ten.
I just think it'll do the Big ten some justice.
It'll do No to Dame some gests, especially when it
comes to that schedule at the end of the year,
because one thing, know, To Dame don't got going for themselves.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
Their schedule is just not a good schedule.
Speaker 3 (58:22):
Yeah, but that's this year, right, this year. But I've
heard what Champ Bailey, this my guy and Victor Cruz, right,
they're doing the TNT stuff and they're hammering Notre Dame
for not being in a conference, and they're like they
got an easy schedule every year. It's like, no, they.
Speaker 2 (58:38):
Don't, No, they don't, Yes, they do.
Speaker 11 (58:40):
They If you look on your schedule in usc is
the glow up Game, your schedule stinks.
Speaker 2 (58:47):
I'm just gonna tell.
Speaker 11 (58:49):
You your schedule is head dead if that's what you're
looking at. Like if you look at some of these
SEC schedules weekend, week out, and then to think about
the SEC, it's not gonna beat the Georgia that beats you.
It's gonna beat the Arsenic States. Miss He's gonna be
one of those glue teams that beat you up. But
you had one of those high games that you gave
(59:10):
me for the week before.
Speaker 3 (59:12):
Okay, let me give you old missus schedule. He all right,
are you tell me if this is Murderer's Row or
not miss miss State? Now this is all missed the
other Missus. Okay, so just the uh, we'll go top
to bottom non conference. This is daunting, all right, Furman?
Speaker 2 (59:29):
You know what?
Speaker 3 (59:30):
We get a.
Speaker 2 (59:32):
Lot of covering. Don't do it now?
Speaker 3 (59:35):
All right, then they had Middle Tennessee or they got
Wake Forest here today, you.
Speaker 2 (59:41):
Don't want to be on the man side of a
demon d.
Speaker 3 (59:45):
Then they get Georgia Southern, and then we get into
conference play here for okay, this is the tough and
it is it's the premier conference. Two years, it's the
pre you're a conference. But not every SEC schedule is
that did not build equally. Okay, So look at old
Miss Kentucky, South Carolina.
Speaker 2 (01:00:08):
South Carolina. Good team.
Speaker 3 (01:00:09):
Now, okay, team they're gonna win today. Yeah right, we'll
see l s U.
Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
L s U is l s U.
Speaker 6 (01:00:15):
Now that valley that's the n I L exists. L
SU gonna have a team and death Valley not each place.
Speaker 2 (01:00:21):
No, no, you're not. It's not easy to play.
Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
I agree with that. But you know he's gonna get
exposed this year. Ok I agree.
Speaker 11 (01:00:27):
Oklahoma, it's the beginning in the end, it's the beginning
of the SEC.
Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
But Oklahoma has to get used.
Speaker 11 (01:00:35):
To being a millling team and they're not used to
that because of the Big twelve. Now Texas easy merged
back into the old Southwestern comfory Oklahoma gonna have to wake.
Speaker 3 (01:00:46):
Up, okay, and the last four games for old miss Arkansas.
Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
Arkansas is a tough out. Like listen to Red.
Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
If Arkansas was a Notre Dame schedule, he'd be like, what.
Speaker 2 (01:00:56):
Is no, No, this is the game they'll lose.
Speaker 11 (01:00:59):
One thing I can say bout Arkansas, They're gonna have
some of the bigger guys for the position. And that's
why they always switch when they get to the league. Like,
think about it, most of their tight ends moved to
tackle when they come to the league.
Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
They got.
Speaker 11 (01:01:11):
Who was a wide receiver that moved the tight end
when he got to the league. Arkansas's don't have players,
don't don't doubt that, won't pick suey, don't do that.
Speaker 3 (01:01:19):
And they don't misfinishes with Georgia. There's no, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
Let's not do that.
Speaker 3 (01:01:23):
Number one, Yeah, Florida and Mississippi State.
Speaker 11 (01:01:26):
Mississippi State, the Egg Bowl is everything, but that is
not top to bottom.
Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
Just this unbelievably difficult. I played Georgia a couple of
years in a row, and I never won the Mike mcclinchy.
Mike mcclinchy got way to blame it on the glitch.
Speaker 2 (01:01:46):
One thing I can say about Notre Dame.
Speaker 11 (01:01:48):
They're gonna have that early high state game, and they're
gonna have one late state game.
Speaker 2 (01:01:54):
But where's the middle of the schedule.
Speaker 3 (01:01:55):
It's just this year though, I'm telling you, they've played
some tough schedule.
Speaker 6 (01:02:00):
To a Notre Dame Penn State game. Rich, I think
you played in that game that was electric electric.
Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
Don't get me wrong.
Speaker 4 (01:02:05):
Notre Dame classically like they're they're the type of team
that when they're on your schedule, it means something to you.
Speaker 3 (01:02:11):
But Notre Dame is not going to put.
Speaker 4 (01:02:14):
A lot of games on their schedule that's going to
mean something to you.
Speaker 3 (01:02:19):
This year. This year, it's it's been a shift from previously.
Speaker 11 (01:02:24):
Love it Notre Dame is like loving your eighty five buick.
You just refuse because you know it meant so much
to you in college. But it's not functional.
Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
Now we gotta have fred on more often. No, hey man,
we have different perspectives. It's all good. And look, it's
it's one of these deals where they're down this year unfortunately,
and the schedule is it's a cakewalk, it is, and
they just lost to a MAX school. It's bad. There's
no congratulations.
Speaker 11 (01:02:53):
You know, we want to show y'all all the little
to show y'all, but thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:02:56):
For giving us.
Speaker 11 (01:02:57):
Sam Hartman, Yeah, he's a heart thrive. The women in
the DNV catchop looking at it.
Speaker 3 (01:03:04):
So what do you think about the main guy though?
Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
Jadis Oh I love Jaden Man.
Speaker 3 (01:03:10):
Listen.
Speaker 11 (01:03:10):
I've been so impressed with him. And it's not the
football player I'm impressed with it. It's the person, like
his values, his feet on the ground, him understanding what
the NFL is about, Like like if I could say
one interview does it for me?
Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
When it come to him.
Speaker 11 (01:03:25):
I remember when they set him down, he had probably
been here three four days, and they were like, how
I feel to be the superstar quarterback for the Washington Commander.
He was like, first of all, I'm not a superstar.
Second of all, I got to earn everything I got.
And there was like, you know what, this guy he
could take the temperature of a room and that doesn't
happen with number two picks all the time, highsing the
trophy winners, like you know, some guys could come in
(01:03:45):
with the star star power. He just wants to be
one of the guys. And I think that's gonna go
a long way in the locker room, because I've been
in locker rooms where you know, it's this pseudo thing
where it's the quarterback and the rest of us.
Speaker 2 (01:03:59):
Yeah, where Tom Brady was, it's all of us.
Speaker 11 (01:04:03):
And I think once you got a quarterback like that,
now now you got a family, not a team.
Speaker 2 (01:04:08):
That's the difference.
Speaker 3 (01:04:09):
That's all Fred smut with us here on countdown to
kick off. What do you think Fred about as a
former defensive back. Yeah, right, he's not just a passing threat. Yeah,
he's not just a running threat. Yeah. What does that
do for you as a dB when he's both.
Speaker 11 (01:04:23):
Well, it paralyzes my defensive coordinator, Like anytime we were
gonna play Michael Vick, like I already knew they taking
all of our two men out of the game. They
don't ever want us as a defensive back to turn
out back to a running quarterback because if we turn
our back checksing their wide receiver, they quarterback can come
running beside us. So that forces us to play covers two,
Cover three, and cover four, like forces us to stay
(01:04:45):
in the zone.
Speaker 2 (01:04:45):
Like if we're going to blitz, it has to be
a zone blitz.
Speaker 11 (01:04:48):
So a running quarterback dictates the defensive coordinator more than
he does the defensive back. Now it's the defensive back
what makes me afraid of I cannot take my eye
off of my man, because he can break the play down.
When they win the play he breaks down is when
they really make things happen. All right, Well, that's off script.
I can't study that, I can't do anything. I have
to react to that. And there go the difference in
(01:05:08):
playing one of these quarterbacks. And that's what I want
to see Jaydon Duke. He ran for a a yards
the first game, but what I want to see him
do is get outside the pocket. This is how you
know his game gonna start to grow when you're running
to throw, when you break outside of the pocket.
Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
Because he right now, he's a duo.
Speaker 3 (01:05:23):
Threat the downfield at all time.
Speaker 11 (01:05:24):
He's a dual threat. Now that mean I can run
when I need to, I can throw when I need to.
I want him to be a triple threat. I want
him to break outside the pocket to throw. That's what
Mahomes does. So that's what Mahomes does so well. And
once he graduates to that, then he becomes unstoppable.
Speaker 6 (01:05:40):
What about the defense, because that's the one thing about
Washington this year. We need to see Dan Quinn really
make an improvement to that defense.
Speaker 11 (01:05:47):
Well, I'm not going I'm not gonna go against coach
Within and Dad Quinn on the first game.
Speaker 2 (01:05:50):
They only had four courts to show us what we.
Speaker 11 (01:05:52):
Got and considering that we only got three starters coming back,
four starters coming back.
Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
From last year's defense.
Speaker 11 (01:05:57):
All right, this is a practically new group of guys,
So I'm gonna give him some time to really incorporate
what they want to do and how they want to
do it. So I think it's too quick to judge
them right now. But we're talking four weeks from now.
Now you're talking about all right, I need to see
that defense. I need to see those turnovers. I need
to see what a Day and Queenn defense a team
look like.
Speaker 3 (01:06:19):
Rich get on in here. We don't want to all
the questions with Fred.
Speaker 4 (01:06:22):
I'm really curious his insight because we were talking about
to a tongue of our lower earlier. Yeah, I saw
that hit on Thursday Night football. The concussion his third
major concussion of his career, and his return to the
field is questionable at this point. A lot of opinions
out there. What's your opinion. Do you have a strong
opinion about what tours should do next?
Speaker 11 (01:06:43):
Well, you know what, I think, it's a tour thing.
This has nothing to do with us. I could easily
tell my kid to stop playing and scratching.
Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
Your up, but they gonna go do it anyway.
Speaker 11 (01:06:53):
Like when I was talking to them, it's like I
compare it to the military man like jobs come with hazards,
all right, And at the end of the day, if
it was me, I'm still going out there. I remember
cracking my stern them and they were like, well, you
can play for the rest of the season.
Speaker 2 (01:07:07):
You can't practice this up to you. I'm playing. I'm sorry.
Speaker 11 (01:07:10):
At the end of the day, Build, we're wired different
than everybody, and I don't know how to it feels today.
Just because he felt that way last Thursday, he might
feel a lot better today. And at the end of
the day, I don't think he's just gonna up and
walk away from being a starting quarterback in this league,
because once it's over with, it's over. Like it's the
biggest divorce ath leatue ever goes through. It hurts to
(01:07:34):
the cord like some guys wake up that day after
being after after retiring and cannot even identify with they
self because for the first time you have to figure
out who Fred Smooth is with doctor football in his hand,
and that's a growing pain in itself.
Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
So I think it's just too early for him to
walk away.
Speaker 11 (01:07:52):
And yes he had two or three concutchions, But I
can talk about guys that played in my day.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
We didn't even count them. How many did we have?
Like I've seen guys stagger to the sideline.
Speaker 11 (01:08:03):
I see guys in a huddle, cross sided it and
keep on playing. So at the end of the day,
can it be done, Yes, it can be done how
you look at it. I think it's personal to you
because I've heard my ex teammate Antonio Pierce, the coach
for the Raiders, come out and say, you know, save
some for your family. But then you got other people saying, no, man,
do what you want to do, do what you love
(01:08:24):
to do, because the window to do it is very small.
This is a game for the youth, it ain't for
the old guys. So we can't go back and play it.
You can't do it again. So hopefully he makes that
decision for himself. I know Miami Dolphins the fan base
probably want him to play.
Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
That's up the tool.
Speaker 3 (01:08:40):
Yeah, I have arguably the best NFL audio for you.
What you got, You're gonna absolutely love it. It is
completely top shelf. Yes, it's a gift from us to
you in just a couple of minutes.
Speaker 11 (01:08:59):
Well, you know I said what I say it about
not to day if from you.
Speaker 2 (01:09:06):
Yeah, yeah, I appreciate.
Speaker 3 (01:09:08):
That, man. Okay, good, We're gonna work in our guy,
Isaac Loewen Krown first. And he's he's kind of like
the great band before the headliner. Okay, and he's also
in the headlining act as well. It's a little confusing,
so he yes, yes, he rebeled Dips. It's basically but
(01:09:28):
I love's got the latest first.
Speaker 5 (01:09:30):
What's going on?
Speaker 9 (01:09:30):
I low put it this way Fred back in the
day Prince once Oven for the Rolling Stones.
Speaker 2 (01:09:40):
That was right.
Speaker 9 (01:09:43):
Yeah, he got booed off the stage that day in
nineteen eighty one at the LA Coliseum. But you know
he went on the bigger and better things. I will
be very quick because I want to hear this great
NFL audio And for Insince, you're giving the guys your
tour of DC. I'd also like you to tell him
about the merits of Ben's Chili Bowl. If you're a
fan coming in, we will get to a grand Friday

Speaker 8 (01:10:56):
Knicks fred Ben's Chili's Bowl. What do you think?
Speaker 11 (01:10:59):
First of all, you go there and you tell them,
forre it a smooth centure, and you ask for a
half smoke. When they get that half smoke, you say,
let me get a line of mustard on that half smoke. Oh,
some of Bean's famous chili. All right, at the end
of the day. If you don't like that, If that
ain't a cup of tea and you want to actually
have some alcohol, would you drink?
Speaker 2 (01:11:15):
Go to Bean's next door.
Speaker 11 (01:11:16):
It's right there to it. Tell them pray at smooth centure.
You'll probably get a free drink.
Speaker 3 (01:11:20):

Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
Let me hear it. Now.
Speaker 3 (01:12:03):
There was a guy named Chad Ocho Sinko.
Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
That's my classmate. We came out together.
Speaker 3 (01:12:08):
Yeah, that's right. And uh he engaged in some friendly
trash talk with a mystery NFL player before a game
years ago, and this is how it sounded. Take a listen.
Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
I ain't win underwear. I ain't gonna win the underwear.
That underwell, you ain't gonna win underwheel good because I'm
coming up here. Listen.
Speaker 11 (01:12:31):
I love Chad because like Higo thing, when people hear that,
y'all trash talkers, they think it's malicious.
Speaker 2 (01:12:39):
Like me and Chad are very how should I say happy? Fun?
Speaker 11 (01:12:42):
Yeah, trash talkers like I can remember in that game,
he's running a go route and me and him are
beside each other and we're talking as we're running the routes,
and I remember TJ came back and walking back to
the other who's mean's out of Like what are y'all
t doing?
Speaker 6 (01:12:59):
Like?
Speaker 11 (01:12:59):
I like this what we do like so to have
fun and to enjoy what you do when lose a draw.
That's why I love like personalities. Like everybody doesn't have
a person out in the league. Some guys like to
come to work, play football, go home. Some people embrace
everything about it. And Chad has always been one of
those guys.
Speaker 3 (01:13:17):
Man, you know what it makes me think of Fred? Yes,
I wish it would be like that in the stands
these days too, when it's just friendly talking.
Speaker 11 (01:13:26):
Yeah, it's everything and so well, well, you know, the
Philadelphia ECAs fans ruined that for Everybody's like.
Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
The most dangerous fans in America.
Speaker 6 (01:13:33):
They got jail in the state old listen, they did.
Speaker 11 (01:13:36):
I mean, they did have a jail in their stadium.
The one thing I love about Philadelphia. They were very
passionate about it all right, and I love visiting Philadelphia.
The only thing wrong with Philadelphia. I was walking down
the street the other day and I ran into a family.
The dad had a beard, the mama had a beer and.
Speaker 2 (01:13:52):
The child had a beard. This is Philadelphia for you
right there. No wonder they mad up there.
Speaker 6 (01:13:58):
I don't even know where to go.
Speaker 3 (01:14:01):
That's the new Charles Barclay about saying Antonio women.
Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
They're just beards everywhere. I'm like, is this a Philadelphia thing?
Speaker 11 (01:14:08):
And am I too clean shaven to be walking with
secent Philadelphia?
Speaker 3 (01:14:12):
Oh man, you're the best friend. What are we playing? Craps?
That's what I want to know.
Speaker 11 (01:14:17):
Well, you know what, I love craps because it's a
game of chance, and it's a game that I can
walk to the table not be the hot guy. I
could see the hot guy all right, and I could
just ride him, ride him to graduation.
Speaker 12 (01:14:29):
A hard ways guy. Sixes and eight passline what you well,
you know what, I do a good thing of this.
If they slow the game down, I start to be
high low. I start to be two threes and twigs.
Speaker 11 (01:14:41):
Because yes, because they're gonna pay thirty to one and
I could just toss that, you know, touch that twenty
dollars over there, one hundred dollars over there for you
know it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:48):
I get them double sixes and we break dance. That's
what it's about so it's the game of chance for me.
Speaker 11 (01:14:55):
I just think every other game is so layered and
you have to learn techniques to play these games, right.
I think Craps is the ultimate. Just throw it out there,
let's see what happens.
Speaker 3 (01:15:04):
Man, you're the man. You're awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:15:07):
Fred.
Speaker 3 (01:15:08):
Really enjoyed hanging with you today. In spite of your
ridiculous comments about the Notre Dame fighting.
Speaker 2 (01:15:14):
Well, come on, man, y'all had your time. Listen.
Speaker 11 (01:15:17):
Notre Dane is a floor model TV. It works, nobody
wants it. You know what we do with floor model TVs.
We put a little TV on top of it. It's
known as a TV chef. Now it's it's over.
Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
You know what it is? History? Fred? Okay, I want
to know that we got Rudy. Well, what is the
Mississippi State movie? I gotta go see.
Speaker 2 (01:15:40):
We was in a movie.
Speaker 11 (01:15:41):
Uh the program?
Speaker 2 (01:15:45):
Do you remember the program? That?
Speaker 3 (01:15:48):
That's the other.
Speaker 11 (01:15:50):
When they played their first game in the program, they
played against Mississippi State.
Speaker 3 (01:15:54):
Great. Yes, I thought a lot of it was South Carolina.
Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
It was mississi State board.
Speaker 11 (01:16:02):
And don't forget the great Jackie Cheryl was my coach there,
all right, the great Jackie Cheryl Ain't but one. Jackie
Cheryl s Ide had the luxury of playing with some
great coaches, head coaches. I had Jackie Sheryl in college.
I got to play for Joe Gibbs that in the league,
So I got to play for some bear with you're
talking history. That's history, right, And I'm sorry they would
even go and say no to day.
Speaker 2 (01:16:22):
Ain't never had it then and don't have it.
Speaker 3 (01:16:25):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
It is what it is. But it's good.
Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
I'm glad I'm between you guys. I feel like I
come back and forth. All right, Hey, come check us
out here. Fred will still be hanging out for a
little while. We're at the wharf.
Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
D C.
Speaker 3 (01:16:41):
Fred Smooth here, former NFL defensive back. It was a
pleasure man.
Speaker 2 (01:16:45):
Anytime, y'all go check out that being Chili bowl man.
Absolutely sure.
Speaker 3 (01:16:49):
We also have rich Orenberger, Penn State All American, Jared

Speaker 2 (01:17:34):
Prop it up plays.
Speaker 3 (01:17:38):
All right, live from the Wharf, d C. We throw
it to you, Jared Smith, what are you thinking with
the prop bet market today?
Speaker 6 (01:17:46):
Well, I want Fred smooth overs on personality on ball,
knowing all of it, and he was, that was an
awesome interview and he's you've taking pictures with.
Speaker 3 (01:17:55):
The crowd here.
Speaker 6 (01:17:55):
I mean, it's a what an awesome segment that was.
All right, let's go to this apple. You're gonna hear
from this game a little bit later on in the show.
But I want to focus on the running game for Washington.
Jonah Coleman ninety two and a half rushing yards. We're
slamming the over. This is a very different Washington offense
from last year. Right, Michael Panics, Adunza and McMillan and
(01:18:16):
high and all these receivers. Now they are a running team.
And I'll be honest, Coleman is a workhorse.
Speaker 3 (01:18:22):
He's versatile.
Speaker 6 (01:18:23):
He understands the elusiveness that it takes to run out
of his back.
Speaker 13 (01:18:26):
There.
Speaker 6 (01:18:26):
This Washington offensive line a little bit better than I expected.
But really we're fading the Washington State defense because they've
got three starters from their defensive line last year that
are out. Why are they out, Well, they moved on,
they graduated, they're moving on to bigger and better things.
And they have really struggled to stop the run for
the first two weeks in the season, one hundred and
twenty second overall in tackling thirty six misstackles against Texas Tech.
Speaker 3 (01:18:48):
Texas Tech.
Speaker 6 (01:18:49):
Okay, Portland State, you're getting pushed around by Portland State
in the running game.
Speaker 3 (01:18:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:18:54):
I think Jonah Coleman and that Washington run game is
gonna be a big day against Washington State will go
over ninety two and a half rushdowds.
Speaker 3 (01:19:00):
Okay, bove it.
Speaker 4 (01:19:01):
Hey, I'm all over this Oregon State Oregon game. You're
gonna have the Beavers protecting the dam today in the
Pacific Northwest, and I'm I'm really liking this rushing attack
from Oregon State. I got to watch this up close
in person a week ago. They went against a pretty
good rush defense and they still got theirs. So I
(01:19:22):
like the Anthony Hankerson Beavers running back going over the
forty six and a half some places having forty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:19:29):
And a half.
Speaker 4 (01:19:30):
Basically, if you could get this under fifty yards, I
would hammer the over. I think that both of the backs,
Griffin and Hankerson are gonna have their way with this
Dutch rushing defense, which we've already seen weaknesses in the armor.
So give me Hankerson over forty six and a half
rushing yards on this game.
Speaker 3 (01:19:48):
Okay, sometimes embarrassments is great fuel. This great fuel Colorado
got in Barris last week against Nebraska, and so I
look for them to rebound today, at least in the
prop bet market. Not too complicated here, shaduor Sanders, he's
really good throwing the football, especially when he has time
(01:20:11):
against Colorado State. I don't love Colorado's offensive line, but
against Colorado State, well it's not exactly South Carolina with
dudes pinning their ears back. I think that Shador has
enough time, I'm going over three twenty one and a half.
At first, you're thinking, like, all these NFL quarterbacks aren't
reaching two hundred yards past three twenty one and a half. Yeah,
(01:20:32):
when he's north of two hundred in the first half,
I like the over as far as that goes. Coming
up next, you probably didn't think this was gonna be
the only ranked versus ranked matchup today. Oh, welcome in.
We are less than an hour away from kickoff here
live from the Wharf DC. Jared Smith, Brian Know with
(01:20:54):
you here. Rich Hornberger with us as well, but he
has thumbed his nose up at us. I have broadcasting response.
You rather hang out in Berkeley? Who listen?
Speaker 4 (01:21:06):
Guys, guys, you know I would be there. Actually, you
know what I would be doing right now. I would
still be ditching you. Me and Fred Smooth going down
to Ben's Chili. That's what we'd been doing. We would
have been at the craps table last night, Rich as
what we were, Oh my dude, the crap table would
smoot and then me and him get that half smoke
with the line of mustard on it. That's exactly what
(01:21:26):
I'm I'm staring that down right now that that sounds
really good to me.
Speaker 3 (01:21:29):
You know, Jared and I shot craps in Biloxi soda
rich Rich did, but we shot for a while. I
went up. Maybe we're five dollars or something, but we
were there for a long time. Yeah, I was bones. Yeah,
love rolling the bones. Time is your enemy.
Speaker 6 (01:21:48):
Yeah, you want to get in and out of the
craps table and make that quick hit and then get out.
Speaker 3 (01:21:52):
Ye, get on out of there. But yeah, when do
you leave your leave night?
Speaker 6 (01:21:57):
I got to show tomorrow, Manly. I got back to
doing more MGM fun stuff tomorrow Mandalay. I'll be doing
an NFL show Mandally Bay tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:22:04):
So very nice to Watchington ball. But do they have
crops in Vegas?
Speaker 6 (01:22:08):
Jared, I've never heard they might. You might be onto
something with that one. Really, I can figure that one out.
Speaker 3 (01:22:16):
You probably didn't think that the only ranked versus ranked
game today was going to be Boston College at Missouri.
No shot, but that's what we have here. Boston College
went into FSU, they took down the Seminoles and here
they are ranked number twenty four. So we got twenty
four ranked Boston College, led by Bill O'Brien, taking on Missou,
(01:22:40):
who is a top ten team. What do you think
about this one.
Speaker 6 (01:22:42):
Jared Well, I think Boston College is taking some money.
We saw this at seventeen earlier in the week. Now
sitting down at fourteen and a half, I think Boston
College does scare me because Castianos the quarterback's a dual threat,
and I don't know, Missouri's defense hasn't really been up
to snubb, but we haven't seen Here's the part that's intriguing.
(01:23:03):
First two games of the year. Missouri plays a cupcake.
They played Buffalo really didn't you know, get tested at all.
Missouri's offense is really good, but they haven't shown it yet.
And and you know, is this the game where they
finally open things up.
Speaker 3 (01:23:15):
Brady Cook is.
Speaker 6 (01:23:16):
A guy that is usually one of the more accurate
quarterbacks in college football.
Speaker 3 (01:23:20):
He hasn't been accurate this year.
Speaker 6 (01:23:22):
So again, are we gonna see a different Missouri offense
than what we've seen in the first two weeks? And
if so, then you're probably getting a discount on this number.
But if Boston College, who by the way, Bill O'Briant,
great coach, they played a very slow tempo when you're
playing at a slow tempo, it's harder to cover big numbers.
I think they're outside the top one hundred in adjusted
tempo this year, one hundred and twelve in situation adjusted pace.
Speaker 3 (01:23:45):
So if they're.
Speaker 6 (01:23:47):
Ahead in the game, they're gonna be grinding that thing out.
So I think the early number on Missouri or excuse me,
on Boston College catching seventeen made sense. Now that we're
down at fourteen and a half, maybe this is the
day Missouri's off that's finally explodes.
Speaker 4 (01:24:01):
Yeah, yeah, Well, listen, there's no question Missouri you'll have
your hands full face in them for a couple different reasons. Offensively,
they have the possibility at any moment to shorten the
field or score from anywhere on the field. But defensively,
they're young, but athletic in a lot of spots. They
got super good defensive ends. They got two inside linebackers
(01:24:24):
who are really talented as well, and then they have
that secondary kind of like the classic sec secondary speed size,
ability to cover one on one, and so in the
run game, your receivers in a Billie O'Brien offense, who,
by the way, was one of my former offensive coordinators
during my time with the New England Patriots, and he's
(01:24:45):
an innovative guy. He likes to get the receivers blocking
linebackers coming down in the box. He likes to get
tackles and guards pulling out to the alley, get the
run game on the edges where you're trying to basically
outflank the defense and use some of their speed against them.
If you get fast flow teams heading out to the
sideline and you send receivers down cracking those players, all
(01:25:08):
of a sudden, you have a run seam in the
in the outside alleys, you know, somewhere between the hash
and the numbers where you can really exploit team speed
that way. And so Billy O'Brien's gonna try to do
that in the run game against this Missouri team. Like
you said, Brian, the most shocking part about this is
the fact that these are two ranked teams, and at
(01:25:28):
the start of the season, there is no way I
would think the BC Eagles and Missouri Tigers would be
the only two ranked heading into Week three.
Speaker 5 (01:25:37):
But here we are.
Speaker 4 (01:25:38):
The football season is officially turned on its head, just
like we predicted, right, no doubt about that.
Speaker 3 (01:25:43):
And the funny thing is or The interesting thing, I
guess is, Jared, when you're talking about the way Boston
College plays offensively, the grind and they try to grind
the games out and shrink the games.
Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:25:56):
And I think what's going to be really interesting to
watch is how Missouri's offense functions, because think about this.
If you like to move, and you like to go
with tempo, and you like to get into a rhythm,
the other team running the ball in a much slower,
grinded out pace, that can mess with your offensive ridge.
(01:26:16):
It's a lot like take an NBA team, remember the
Phoenix Suns the seven seconds or less Antura. Yes, like quick, quick,
get the shots up, only seven seconds shoot it. Imagine
if like college basketball, when there was no shot clock.
Imagine if they're going seven seconds or less and the
other team is just dribbling, dribbling, they'd be going out
(01:26:39):
of their minds.
Speaker 6 (01:26:40):
Yeah, and games r game script in these games matters
so much. For example, if Missouri and by the way,
Luther Burden being the third leading receiver on this Missouri team.
And don't get me wrong, Cazari's got dudes, but Luther
Burden should be the third.
Speaker 3 (01:26:57):
Leading receiver in the country.
Speaker 6 (01:26:58):
He's got seven catches for less than a hundred yards
in two games, So that tells me we haven't seen
the a stuff yet from Missouri. Let's say they get
off to a fast start early couple of scores, burdens
lighting up the scoreboard, and Boston College that likes to
grind it out with a running quarterback and a outside
the top one hundred and pace all of a sudden's
down two scores like it, just it changes what they
(01:27:21):
want to do.
Speaker 3 (01:27:22):
And you make a team that is very.
Speaker 6 (01:27:24):
Comfortable operating in a phone booth have to step outside
the phone booth and spread things out and go faster,
then that offense becomes uncomfortable for them. So the game
script matters a lot here. If you like Missouri in
the game, you get the discount already on the number
bet the first half, because if they're not ahead in
the first half, odds are probably not going to cover
(01:27:46):
fourteen and a half anyways. But also the game script
changes so much where BC has to chase the game
and it just it changes the dynamics. So I think
Missouri is at four. If this thing gets to fourteen,
I think it's a bet on Missouri. If it doesn't.
I think a first half makes sense. And hey, Luther Burden,
we have not seen the big numbers yet. He's one
of the best players in the country. That is a
(01:28:07):
guy to keep an eye on in the prop market today.
Speaker 2 (01:28:10):
Yeah, yeah, listen. I oh sorry, I was just gonna say.
Speaker 4 (01:28:14):
You know, I have a ton of respect for Brady Cook,
not only the Missouri's quarterback, not only for his ability
to throw the ball, but also as a runner. I
think he's an athlete, and I think that creates really
hard matchups for your run defense, but also for your
passing defense.
Speaker 2 (01:28:31):
Like we were just.
Speaker 4 (01:28:32):
Talking to Fred Smooth about from the defensive backfield situation,
you have to play a lot of zone, you know
what I mean, You have to keep your eyes on
the quarterback the whole time when you have a mobile
quarterback like that who keeps his eyes downfield.
Speaker 3 (01:28:44):
Plus they have a tan of them running backs.
Speaker 4 (01:28:46):
Probably three of their wide receivers will maybe play in
the NFL one day, possibly four of them. I mean,
this is the best team Boston College will face this season,
and potentially the best team that Boston College has faced.
Speaker 5 (01:29:00):
In a very long time. Like going back a couple
of years.
Speaker 3 (01:29:03):
Now you could go back to nineteen ninety three when
they faced the number one ranked Notre Dame fighting Irish.
Speaker 6 (01:29:10):
You know, anything to get Notre Dame from the nineties
in the show, Well.
Speaker 3 (01:29:14):
That's the worst thing was Notre Dame lost. That was
That was the week after the quote unquote game of
the Century against Florida State and then old Glenn Foley
with Boston College and Pete Mitchell the tight end led
by Tom Coughlin, the head coach, they went into Notre
Dame Stadium and they took down the Irish game. There
(01:29:36):
is no good news about Notre Dame today at all.
So we're just gonna We're just gonna bring you back.
Speaker 6 (01:29:42):
We're gonna go Notre Dames going by one hundred days.
What you're saying, do.
Speaker 3 (01:29:46):
You know rewind Let's go back to that. Yeah, full
back machine right there, no doubt. Let me throw another
game at you. Georgia against Kentucky. Now what stands out
to me is this Kentucky obviously the number one ranked
team in the country. Kentucky got their doors blown off
of them last week against South Carolina. This line hasn't
(01:30:08):
moved a lot. It opened at twenty three and a
half Georgia favored by that at bet MGM, it's still
twenty three and a half. Yeah, And what stands out
to me is this embedding. Sometimes it seems super square
to just say I saw this last week. I think
it's gonna happen again this week, right, And don't you
(01:30:31):
kind of like the inner sharp in you is like, no, no, no,
it's too obvious. You gotta go, And I always lose.
I usually lose matter. Well, I think you you.
Speaker 6 (01:30:42):
Psyche yourself out when you let the number dictate what
you're doing instead of just reacting to the number. Right,
Whereas you're looking at a game like Georgia and you're like, oh, well,
you know Kentucky's not very good, they should win easily
by twenty four. Well, once I got the twenty, it did.
It hit twenty four and a half briefly, briefly this week,
(01:31:03):
right back down to twenty two and a half. So
the second it hit that number, you saw our friends
like Bill Krackenberger and all those pros just jump on
Kentucky and it's you just have to ignore everything you
saw last week. Kentucky's offense without Liam Cohen is a
very different offense. If you go analyze and he's been there.
He was there and then he left, and then he
came back, and then he's gone. Now again, if you
(01:31:23):
look at the years that they have tried to operate
an offense without Liam Cohen, it's very different.
Speaker 3 (01:31:30):
And I think.
Speaker 6 (01:31:31):
Georgia, we're in SEC play now, you're gonna start to
see these offenses we haven't seen a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:31:37):
The first couple of weeks. You could see some of these.
Speaker 6 (01:31:38):
Teams are just kind of going through the motions, especially
when they're facing FCS teams. Now, once the SEC starts
to really get into it, I wouldn't be shocked if
Georgia wins by fifty today. That would not surprise me
in the least bit because Kentucky could barely get a
six points on the board against South Carolina.
Speaker 3 (01:31:55):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (01:31:56):
Now you're gonna go up against Georgia now they are
at home.
Speaker 3 (01:31:59):
That's the one good thing.
Speaker 4 (01:32:00):
Yeah yeah, well, and by the way, that's a problem
for Georgia a little bit. I'm not saying they don't
win this game, but they could be in for a dogfight.
They play tough at home, and they played Georgia tough
in Kentucky. I don't think in Kirby Smart's tenure, going
up to Kentucky has never It's never been a cake walk,
you know. In terms of the Georgia Bulldogs, it's always
(01:32:23):
been There's always been moments where you say, oh boy,
you know the Cats are putting up a fight here.
I've got a lot of respect for George obviously, I
think they're hemmed up at just about every single position
that can be. And I think the loss to South Carolina,
after the way Kentucky started their season with a shutout,
it did feel like a little bit of they crashed
(01:32:43):
back down to Earth and getting upset like that. I
will say, though, it's the tail of two games, some
good in the opener, some bad in week two.
Speaker 2 (01:32:54):
A lot of.
Speaker 4 (01:32:55):
These teams make their biggest strides from week one to
week two. But oftentimes you see as a team like
Kentucky take a big step back, and even though the
scoreboard doesn't reflect it, you know, in the sum total
of the game they play in week two, there can
be massive improvements. And so all I'm saying is, look out,
this is a game that I'm keeping my hands off because,
(01:33:17):
like you said, Jared. Also, it's the start of SEC YEP,
and anything can happen. Things get weird when teams are
early in their conference schedule.
Speaker 3 (01:33:25):
I'll say two things right this Georgia Kentucky game, it's
the overreaction slash underreaction game, right where what happened last
week Kentucky gets rolled by South Carolina. And so it
might be an overreaction to say, well, they suck, they're
gonna get rolled today. It also might be an underreaction
(01:33:47):
to say, oh, no, no, no, they're gonna be on point today.
You know what I'm saying. Yeah, And the other part
is when you look at Kentucky and Georgia, Georgia is
a none old miss team, meaning this right like, they
won a couple of championships, they barely missed the playoff yesterday.
(01:34:08):
They're not necessarily trying to win by seven touchdowns. No,
you know, let's win the game, let's move on to
the next week. They're a lot more like we're onto Cincinnati,
like Belichick, you know, instead of it, we're even trying
to win by six touchdowns. So if they get up big,
you're not gonna get fireworks. Now, They're just gonna run
the ball and just try to get out of there
(01:34:30):
with a road win. And that's where you can get
back door if you're looking for a backdoor. And literally
it's funny.
Speaker 6 (01:34:36):
I think the market God's hurt us because as we
started talking about this game, a wave of money came
in on Kentucky and knock this thing down to twenty
two and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:34:47):
And now it's kind of sitting in that.
Speaker 6 (01:34:48):
And again, the difference between twenty three and a half
and twenty two and a half, it's not just a
crazy key number in college football where any small amount
of professional money would wave that thing down. But I'm
seeing that some of the sharper shops back in the
des that this thing's already down to twenty two. Now
if it gets down to twenty one, which is one
of those secondary key numbers that I have a very
(01:35:09):
close eye on, I would bet that is where the
Georgia money would come in. That's kind of what early
week trading does in college football. It kind of gives
you these guardrails, like I know, for example, that Notre
Dame game against Purdue, like you know, it started twelve
and a half and then you get buyed down all
the way to seven and a half, and you're like, man,
if that thing hits seven, that's where the professional money
(01:35:31):
steps in and buys Notre Dame.
Speaker 3 (01:35:33):
I think the same could be said about Georgia and Kentucky.
Speaker 6 (01:35:35):
It did seem like we saw the early handle on Georgia,
but now the sharp money today coming in on Kentucky.
Certainly moving the market a couple of points. But if
that thing gets to twenty one, not so fast, my friend,
that's right, step in on the ball eye.
Speaker 4 (01:35:48):
I love what you said, and I forget if it
was you Brian, or if it was you Jared about
the first half on this game, because rewind to week two.
Think about LSU against Nickel State. You look at the
box score and you say, oh, wow, well they blew
them out.
Speaker 2 (01:36:02):
Well it was.
Speaker 5 (01:36:04):
It was a ball game that was a battle for
a long time. The fourth quarter finally things opened up.
Speaker 4 (01:36:09):
You could see a situation where a team on the road,
the Bulldogs head into Lexington. Maybe it's a little bit
of a slow start, it's your first SEC road matchup,
even though they've blown the doors off the competition so far.
Sometimes when you're rubbed up against a game that finally
really does matter.
Speaker 3 (01:36:30):
You can play a little shy now.
Speaker 4 (01:36:32):
I'm not saying they don't open it up in the
second half, and like you said, some sharp money coming
in on Kentucky. I'm not thrilled about taking the whole
game spread here, but taking a look at that first
half line might benefit you because I could see a
situation the same way we were talking about overreaction underreaction,
Like I don't want to overreact to anything I've seen
because so far, I mean, we have such limited information.
(01:36:55):
So maybe just to take a peek at that first
half action and and take it from there, because.
Speaker 3 (01:37:02):
Then it opens up the door.
Speaker 4 (01:37:03):
It gives you the avenue to watch the first half
and then decide do I want to get on the second.
Speaker 3 (01:37:10):
That's the voice of rich Orenberger, Penn State All American
Jared Smith with us here FSR betting analyst, I'm Brian No.

team Lead of Sports Trading at BETMGM, joining us here
we are live on location here, Seamous. We're at the Wharf, DC.
It's a beautiful day. You've got East Coast roots, don't you?
East Coast vibes over there, Seamus?
Speaker 13 (01:38:56):
Right, all born and raised in West Orange, New Jersey.
You're actually a stone still from where my little brother
can actually live. So yeah, monetize, especially down the DC
area with my parents.
Speaker 3 (01:39:07):
That's beautiful right there, It's an awesome day. Let's just
try dive straight into the lines here, Seamus. I always
love the Shamous detection meter, if you will, Right, what
have you said all these games going on, any line movement,
any money that's come in, anything that has caught your
attention specifically about today's action.
Speaker 13 (01:39:29):
I think this one first off the top of my head.
Is this not Dame Perdue game? This opened up nerday
minus twelve and a half. It's already down to nerday
minus seven and a half, and it's sharp money. It's
public money coming in, especially since flyers on the Purdue
money line. Some money starting to come back in on
nerday minus seven and a half, but nothing shop enough
(01:39:50):
to take us back up to an eight and a
half or nine, but definitely is striking money coming in
fading the Irish.
Speaker 6 (01:39:58):
Are you surprised Seamus this Georgia game. We were just
talking earlier at Georgia Kentucky and literally it's almost like
they hurt us. We saw a swath of money come
in on Kentucky. Are you surprised that they're taking any
money after what we saw last week against South Carolina?
Speaker 10 (01:40:17):
It is a little surprising, honestly, But I mean, we
did take a ton of money on Georgia at minus
twenty three and a half, but sharp money, you know,
made us move.
Speaker 13 (01:40:26):
A point to twenty two and a half.
Speaker 10 (01:40:28):
We're still gonna end up rooting for Kentucky here.
Speaker 13 (01:40:30):
I don't know how I feel about it, to be
honest at the moment, but it's definitely some interesting line
to have been there considering how bad they looked last week.
Speaker 5 (01:40:38):
Seam is staying on the Georgia Kentucky game.
Speaker 4 (01:40:41):
What about the over? I think it's currently at forty
four and a half. What does the handle look like
on the over for that game? Because if I'm leaning
anywhere on that one, it's it's more toward the points
going over.
Speaker 2 (01:40:55):
Yeah, so we.
Speaker 13 (01:40:55):
Opened this at forty five and a half. Juice to
the under whose shop money took it down forty four
and a half?
Speaker 10 (01:41:00):
Wh we're at right now. But it's a really good
looking book there. It's fifty to fifty.
Speaker 13 (01:41:05):
Even split on the money. So yeah, what's the different
opinions there on the over unders?
Speaker 3 (01:41:11):
What do you need at BEDMGM today? You know, if
you could, you could construct your own three leg parlay
that would benefit bet MGM the most. And either this
is good I like this, Yeah, screw up the sharps
or screw up the public. What would you go with
their Seamus.
Speaker 13 (01:41:29):
Let's go with South Carolina plus six.
Speaker 10 (01:41:34):
Notre Dame minus seven and a half, and then we'll
say Wisconsin plus fifteen.
Speaker 13 (01:41:41):
And a half plus sixteen and a half.
Speaker 6 (01:41:43):
I like that South Carolina. I mean I was on
South Carolina at seven earlier in the week. I gave
it out, put it in the parlay platter for today.
So hopefully we get the game Cocks across the finish line.
We got about thirty minutes until this Alabama Wisconsin game.
It looks like seven team maybe seventeen and a half
was kind of the line in the sand where the
(01:42:05):
sharp money decided to step in on the Badgers at
home is, and I'm seeing now some fifteens pop up
on my screen. You guys still sitting sixteen and a
half over at BEDMGEN, But it seems like there is
some support in the market for the Badgers today.
Speaker 13 (01:42:20):
It is, but it's really a good deal of money
with us coming at least. I mean, we've got some
buybacks on Wisconsin right now, but nothing again too respective
enough to move us down to fifteen and a half.
It's one way traffic for us all a week on Bama.
We're really gonna leave the Badgers?
Speaker 2 (01:42:35):
Wow?
Speaker 4 (01:42:36):
All right, Colorado State, I'm really quick. They feel like
a team that might be a popular bet on the
money line based on what happened last year in the
rivalry game. What's the handle looking like on the money
line for the Rams.
Speaker 10 (01:42:53):
This is a historic day at BETMGM. This is the
first time, I think in maybe two and a half years,
we're rooting four color It's a lot of people feeding
coach Brian.
Speaker 13 (01:43:04):
And the bus today. You know, it's it's more money's
coming on the Colorado State money line and they're already
touched two ten with us. It's definitely one way trafficked
on the Rams. On the spread. So it looks like
as it stands right now, a.
Speaker 10 (01:43:17):
Lot of things can happenue to now and kickoff, but
we're gonna need Colorado and coach.
Speaker 3 (01:43:21):
Brian rooting for Colorado and Notre Dame. Like what is
happening today is the public.
Speaker 13 (01:43:28):
To swap I do want to swap Nerdame out of
that parlot. It is actually one nerding money coming in
on that spread. I think the NORDA money line would
be better for us there if they wouldn't don't come,
I think that'd be a better result. But let me
throw into the U c L a outright money line
to that parlay because it's.
Speaker 6 (01:43:42):
Been a parlay platter. He just gave it South Carolina.
How about FIU Shamus? Can we get to fi you love?
How would get a clean sweeper?
Speaker 13 (01:43:52):
If I if I can see any money coming in
on that game as it is right now.
Speaker 10 (01:43:56):
It's it's a week late, but yeah, I do say
you got the Bowl.
Speaker 13 (01:44:00):
Today, But I would imagine a.
Speaker 10 (01:44:04):
Lot of money's coming on the FAU money line.
Speaker 13 (01:44:06):
If anything's not great, I'm gonna be honest right now.
Speaker 10 (01:44:10):
So probably a game that we're not really going to
have an eye on I.
Speaker 6 (01:44:13):
Wouldn't expect you guys to care much about that game,
but I cared if we get U c l A
South Carolina FIU all out right winners.
Speaker 3 (01:44:22):
Today, I'll be doing cartwheels on the pier.
Speaker 2 (01:44:25):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:44:26):
I love it, Seamus super fast before you go, what
do you think about this? And I think I can
anticipate your answer as a better yourself. But Jared, he
spent time at Florida Atlantic, right, he wore up there
now back in the day. He has a soft spot
in his heart for FAU and he's rolling with f
i U. What do you think about that?
Speaker 13 (01:44:46):
I kind of lean FIU too. I don't think this
team is necessarily is sad as the FIUs did in
the past. I'm a little low on FAU. They look
awful against the Army last week. I think this is
a good spot for FIU.
Speaker 6 (01:44:59):
Let's go. The r lay platter is hitting today, Jared.
Speaker 3 (01:45:03):
One after the interview with you here, Seamus. Awesome stuff
as always. Man. Hope you enjoyed the day, Seamus, and
we'll catch you soon, Bud.
Speaker 13 (01:45:11):
I have a good guy sex all right there.
Speaker 3 (01:45:13):
He is Seamus McGee, team lead of sports Trading at
bed MGM and uh, you know, you get a little
confirmation with some of the things. Yeah, now it's.
Speaker 6 (01:45:21):
Confirmation bias because now I'm gonna be all, you know,
hot to trot on this parlay right out of the gate,
South Carolina'll be down two touchdowns in the first half.
Speaker 3 (01:45:30):
Probably he could get risky, Get risky, baby, Yeah, We're
gonna get risky right now with our main man, Isaac
Lohan Crown. And I mean this is a compliment. You
don't know what the heck's coming out of this next
you know, I don't know what it's gonna be, but
it's gonna be entertaining. I just don't know the specifics here.
He has specifics for us. I low, what's going on?
Speaker 13 (01:45:50):
Here?
Speaker 9 (01:45:50):
Is this report insured by Lloyd's of London, so happy
to report that new arrangement. We start with some grand
slam action on Friday night in Major League Baseball, three
of them. Aaron Judge of the Yankees, a grand slam
in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift them
pass the Red Sox five to four. That actually broke
the longest home run drought of Aaron judges major league career,
(01:46:14):
a mere sixteen games. It was Judges major League leading
fifty second home run on the season. Honter Goodman of
the Colorado Rockies the game win a grand slam on
the bottom of the eighth inning and their nine to
five win over the Chicago Cubs. That was actually Goodwin's
second home run of the game, as Goodman finished with
seven RBI. Cincinnati's Ellie de la Cruz even got into
(01:46:36):
the grand slam act in their eight to four win
at Minnesota. Seattle's Julio Rodrigue Is a game winning three
run home run on the bottom of the eighth inning
for a five to four win over Texas. Dylan Seats
of the San Diego Padres struck out ten in six
shutout innings, getting his thirteenth victory in San Diego's five
nothing win at San Francisco, and the Milwaukee Brewers lowered
(01:46:56):
their magic number to clinch the nl Central down to
five with a two one went on Friday night at Arizona.
One NBA note ESPN reporting today free agent guard Landry
Schmett has agreed to a one year deal with the
New York Knicks and four ranked teams in action when
today's college football slate kicks off at the top of
the hour, Number four Alabama at Wisconsin, thirteenth ranked Oklahoma
(01:47:19):
State on the road at Tulsa, Number sixteen LSU at
South Carolina, and number seventeen Michigan hosting Arkansas State. Unfortunately,
none of those aforementioned school's mascots are ungulates.
Speaker 12 (01:47:32):
Back to you, guys, the Graziers get no love in
terms of the mascot game.
Speaker 3 (01:47:39):
It's a it's a shape it really they do.
Speaker 9 (01:47:41):
An FCS isn't like the North Dakota Bison or something
bigelists to see here.
Speaker 3 (01:47:48):
I love bids.
Speaker 6 (01:47:50):
Who takes the leap and goes Cows is their mascot?
Speaker 3 (01:47:53):
Is there going to be a team that we're running
out of state? Yeah, We've got so many bulldogs around
here al cows right, Yeah it is. Fox Sports Radios

I'll give you one yea a million games, a million
things to look at. What do you have your eye on?
Speaker 10 (01:48:35):
So?
Speaker 6 (01:48:36):
Ball State Miami very intriguing game.
Speaker 3 (01:48:39):
I think the over makes sense.
Speaker 6 (01:48:41):
Ball State lost their DC, Tyler Stockton, who is one
of the better DC's out there. They only return one
starter on defense. This is a game that some prominent
professional gamblers gave out earlier in the week, so you
might not get the best number, but we know Miami's
an overteam. I mean, you watch them for just a
minute and you just you know the depth at the
skill position level. Cam Ward is absolutely electric. And how
(01:49:05):
about this? The MAC has competed. If you take out
Kent State, who is the worst team in the MAC,
the MAC is fourteen and six against the spread. And
I think the reason why is because, unlike a lot
of these other teams that are very transfer portal heavy,
the MAC for the most part is seniors and it's
guys that have been there, and it's teams that they've
(01:49:27):
built from the ground up, like Bowling Green last week
against Penn State, Bowling Green at thirty two seniors on
their two d like that is really hard to prepare for.
And when you are a team that is experienced and
you know how to scout yourself and you've been there
for four or five years with the same program, the
MAC programs tend to keep that continuity. So ball State
(01:49:48):
I think will put some points on the board today,
and we know Miami will, so I think you can
get fifty five. Feels like a decent over bet with
that game.
Speaker 4 (01:49:54):
I'm looking at Boston College Missouri. I think they're a
live dog there. I really love Billy O'Brien as a
person and as a coach. I think he's an innovative
offensive mind. And we were discussing this a little bit
early on. You know, two ranked teams. It's only ranked
matchup we have today, so that definitely has my attention.
(01:50:15):
What else, Oh, just from the standpoint of the watch,
I'm not sure if I'm going to put anything on
this whatsoever, but Colorado State, Colorado.
Speaker 5 (01:50:22):
It's just a fun matchup.
Speaker 4 (01:50:25):
It was so there was so much that happened last
year before that matchup.
Speaker 5 (01:50:30):
We get it earlier here this year, and.
Speaker 4 (01:50:33):
Then I'm on the road I'm calling a game kicking
off West Coast time at seven thirty pm. Gonna see
San Diego State face the cal Bears, who are rolling
off an enormous upset against Auburn down there on the plane.
So I'm really excited to see this game too, A
two to zero col Bears team taking on a one
(01:50:53):
to one San Diego State Aztec's team. So it's man,
it's Week three college football and I still can't tell
you who's who yet. I mean, I mean, we have
to wait until mid season these days to see how
things shake out.
Speaker 3 (01:51:06):
I'll be watching wall to wall ball, yeah, you know me,
but a couple of games of peak interest, you know,
my Irish. But here's the thing. It's not just about
Notre Dame. There's so much Perdue money. And this is
what I say, It's not just about fading a team.
You're not just betting against Notre Dame. You're betting on Perdue.
Speaker 2 (01:51:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:51:28):
I just want to just make sure you know the equation.
I'm staying away from that game.
Speaker 6 (01:51:34):
I said, if it got to seven, yeah, that's where
I think you see the big move come in.
Speaker 3 (01:51:38):
And I don't think it's gonna get it I'm not
saying the boiler Makers is the wrong side. It might
be the right side. But just no, for any game,
you're not just fading one team. It's true, you're back
by accident betting on the other team. So you are
betting on perdue, not just betting against those That's.
Speaker 6 (01:51:58):
Why I like betting unders, because you're against both teams.
And that's case.
Speaker 3 (01:52:02):
That's that's such a good point.
Speaker 4 (01:52:05):
Which, by the way, like if you're holding your nose
when you hear me.
Speaker 5 (01:52:08):
Talk about Boston College, take the under.
Speaker 4 (01:52:10):
I also think if if you think Boston like and
that's that's such a that's so beautifully stated, Jared, Like,
there's so many teams like you just put it, Brian,
like Purdue. Every time you put anything on Purdue, you
gotta hold your nose. I mean every I mean outside
of maybe college basketball, you gotta hold your nose.
Speaker 3 (01:52:29):
I think that's the translation of Purdue is hold your nose.
I think that's what it Actually, that's what boiler maker
means French.
Speaker 6 (01:52:37):
Boiler Makers French, it's.
Speaker 2 (01:52:39):
Belgium or something.
Speaker 3 (01:52:40):
Hold the other one is Oklahoma. And yeah, listens, our
trusted producer bo Benson, he loves him some sooners, he does.
They suck. They're just complete fugazy. They almost lost to
Houston last week.
Speaker 6 (01:53:01):
Man, you know what's another game that's getting interesting love
is Texas A and M Florida.
Speaker 3 (01:53:05):
I'm seeing some A and M money. Yeah, Florida.
Speaker 6 (01:53:07):
I mean I was on Florida the other week and
Napier just it seems like they just lost everything down there.
Speaker 3 (01:53:13):
I know it. But DJ Lagway, Yeah, you talk about
a shot in the arm. He's going up against a
much better defense today. But yeah, you can see his
talent last week.
Speaker 6 (01:53:23):
Oh, by the way, shame has just checked in Youngstown
State minus twenty four and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:53:27):
First, Ducaine is the shame of special.
Speaker 6 (01:53:29):
I didn't want to miss that. We didn't get it
down on that show, but I just gave it to
you guys. There's down state that's the gay everyone wants
to watch.
Speaker 3 (01:53:37):
Man, let's go.
Speaker 4 (01:53:38):
They're they're the Mighty Undulates. I thought I thought that
wins the Dukane Dukes. Yeah, what an original name.
Speaker 3 (01:53:45):
They're the Cows. A lot of cows out there in
Pittsburgh and Youngstown.
Speaker 4 (01:53:50):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (01:53:50):
We got some picks to make around the corner. Rich
Orenberger Penn State All American. Jared Smith, FSR betting Analyst.
I'm Brian No Rapid Fire three piece, Live at the
Wharf in DC. It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to
Kickoff presented by BETMGM. It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown
to Kickoff presented by bet MGM. We are live today
(01:54:13):
at the Wharf, DC. It has been tremendous. Shout out
to BETMGM. Shout out to Fox Sports Radio. iHeartRadio. It's
been awesome. Everybody helping us out here. Shout out to
RUSS flashing.
Speaker 6 (01:54:26):
Us Russ Axelrod in the house.
Speaker 3 (01:54:28):
Beautiful man. Look at that. I didn't realize we were
going to see that too. I mean, he's got it
all going for him. Was amazing all season long. Betmgm's
offering you a second chance on your first touchdown bet
in the NFL. When a customer places an NFL wager
on a first touchdown score bet and he doesn't score first,
but he scores second, BETMGM will return one hundred of
(01:54:52):
their stakeback in cash. Have we got some picks to
make Let's do it fire, all right, Jared, we start
with you, what are you thinking?
Speaker 13 (01:55:04):
Man?
Speaker 3 (01:55:04):
All right? We start with the total.
Speaker 14 (01:55:05):
This game starts very soon, so get this in now,
Texas Tech North Texas under seventy one totals that close
sixty nine or higher over the last three seasons fifty
to twenty two to the under.
Speaker 6 (01:55:17):
We talked about this earlier Brian teams that loved to it,
you know, explosive plays. Well, now the defenses are adjusting.
You've seeing a lot of these two cover you know,
the Mahomes defenses that are bleeding the clock. Neither team
really is that explosive, between North Texas and Texas Tech.
And Texas Tech dealing with some injuries. Of course they
lost last week. I think seventy one too high for
that total. So we're going under UCLA plus three and
(01:55:40):
a half.
Speaker 3 (01:55:40):
Now.
Speaker 6 (01:55:41):
I gave this out earlier in the week on my
video that we do every week for Fox at MGM.
It was three market hated to pick. Now we're at
three and a half. I don't care.
Speaker 3 (01:55:49):
I'll take the Bruins.
Speaker 6 (01:55:50):
They had a week off after going to Hawaii. I
think their defense will at least control this Indiana offense.
And Indiana as a road favorite in the Big Ten,
no fank you, So we'll take the Bruins plus three
and a half and Washington. The market actually loved this pick.
Gave this out minus four and a half yesterday. It's
up to minus six now. I think it's playable up
to seven. I love this Washington run game against the
(01:56:12):
Washington State front. I don't think they're gonna be up
for the challenge in the Apple Cup. So Washington minus six,
UCLA plus three and a half, North Texas Texas deck
under seventy one.
Speaker 2 (01:56:20):
Okay, I'm up.
Speaker 4 (01:56:21):
I've been on fuego for rapid fire so far to
start the season, so I'm gonna keep the hot streak going.
With Boston College plus fourteen and a half on the
road against Missouri.
Speaker 3 (01:56:33):
Big Billy O believer.
Speaker 4 (01:56:34):
Here, former coach of mine during my playing days in
New England with the Patriots. Give me the VC Eagles
given those Tigers a hard time. Oregon at Oregon State
Oregon State plus seventeen, give me the dog again. Oregon
State is going to shorten this game with their rushing
tack and they're gonna keep it close in a war
(01:56:55):
that isn't so civil. I don't know if we're allowed
to call it the other thing, So we'll leave it
there Alabama at Wisconsin. Give me the home dog Badgers
plus Obama goes to Camp Randall tough place to play.
I don't trust Bama's offense yet, that could change after
(01:57:16):
this matchup. Give me the Badgers getting sixteen and a
half all dogs this week?
Speaker 3 (01:57:23):
Wow, you know what? And shame on me because I'm
all flustered out here, live and the sunshine, and I
gotta thank people first. Huh yeah, our trusted producer, Bo Benson,
Chris Purfett, technical producer extraordinaire, crushing the updates, crushing life,
Isaac Loewen Crown, our guy Claude here, saw something awesome, job,
(01:57:45):
pleasure to be around it. Really smooth. Fred Smoot was
amazing today. All the promotion staff again, Russ flashing us.
That's what distracted me. It was Russ flashing What a
fantastic after got to thank everybody, but uh yeah, and
top of the we're up on game. DJ Huschmanzata Plexico,
Buris LeVar Arrington huh of course, Lamar Fred Smooth's teammate.
(01:58:07):
When Fred Smooth was a oh yeah right, they go
back there with the Washington Commanders. Now, okay, my three
picks here you go. Sometimes it doesn't have to be
totally scientific. Okay, I think Oklahoma's total fogazy. All right,
I've got him under seven and a half wins on
(01:58:28):
the season too. Oh nice, we're brothers like that one. Okay, beautiful.
I'm gonna take tu Lane plus thirteen today. I just
I don't trust Oklahoma enough and Julane's been feisty in
the past. Yeah, Oklahoma, they were good last week.
Speaker 5 (01:58:45):
They were in a.
Speaker 3 (01:58:45):
Dogfight against Kansas State. I'll take a plus thirteen. State
looked good last night too, they did. They looked really good.
Arizona not as that was good. Okay, I've got just
this is the only time an ugly game is pretty.
It's when you're on the under, and oh it is
breathtaking when no one can score at all. I'm looking
(01:59:06):
at air Force and Baylor. Okay, give me the under
twenty one and a half in the first half.
Speaker 6 (01:59:12):
First, you're good with these first half unders.
Speaker 3 (01:59:15):
This is your thank you take. I love these, but
they're gonna run the ball a ton, not explosive offenses.
Baylor's running the ball a lot. Yeah, just air Force.
So I'll take the under in the first half and
listen every now and then you can be stubborn to
a fall. Who says stubborn to a benefit. There can't
be such a thing, though, could be? Give me the
(01:59:38):
Irish Yes minus seven and a half against produced. This
line has moved a ton. Imagine if this game.
Speaker 6 (01:59:45):
Was the week after the A and M games two
touchdowns it is.
Speaker 3 (01:59:49):
I'll lay the seven and a half.
Speaker 6 (01:59:51):
You know, if it gets to seven, when's a kick
three thirty? Yeah, if it gets to seven, we'll be watching.
If it gets to seven, I.
Speaker 3 (01:59:58):
Will be Notre dame.
Speaker 14 (02:00:01):
There.
Speaker 3 (02:00:01):
You go watch the first half until you leave me. Everybody,
have a great day. Shout out DC, it's been amazing
here
