(00:27):
way tire buying should be. Jmart I think about seven
pm Eastern Time, he texted me and said, I think
we could go a little heavy on the NFL today.
Light day in college football since then, Number one Georgia
on the ropes, Billy Napier. There is a report the
(00:47):
Florida head coach could be out as early as tomorrow.
And oh, by the way, I think your Tennessee volunteers,
not your Tennessee volunteers, but we do live in Tennessee.
They've put up about two hundred points, Colorado is closing
out win. So all of a sudden, turning into a
nice little Saturday in college football. How you doing, my man, I'm.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Doing pretty well. I mean, I've watched this chaos tonight.
I've watched all these games today. It wasn't the most
appetizing slate, But we've gotten a couple of talking points late,
like you just mentioned, and we got well, we got
definitely the end of one team season earlier today. And
you know, it's college football, so crazy things are going
to happen, some teams are going to escape, some or not.
(01:27):
I do think the Florida story is kind of unsurprising,
as stunning as it might even feel like on the surface,
it's almost like the most unsurprising thing that could have
happened tonight. But we also have a backup quarterback that
came in, but there's a little bit of a story
to be talked about there as well. So all of
a sudden, you're right, like, we do have some great
(01:47):
NFL topics, but College football decided that they wanted to
make sure that in this timeslot we did what we
usually do and didn't just kind of relegate them to,
you know, two three segments and then moved to the
NFL College footb I was like, oh, no, no, no, no,
we're gonna give you something, And that's exactly what's happened.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
They said, Tours and Mariin have been waiting nine months
for college football, and they deserve they deserve a good
slate of conversation to have. So let's start. So first
of all, there is like, as as we are coming
on air, so Georgia, they are playing the Georgia number
one team in the country. I think for people who
you know, follow college football but maybe aren't a diehard,
(02:26):
you know how State's good, you know Texas is good,
et cetera. Georgia is the number one ranked team in
the country. They are playing at Kentucky right now. Kentucky
last week got destroyed by South Carolina at home. You know,
you know, I say calls for Mark Stoups because you
know he's not getting fired, but a lot of frustration
(02:48):
off of a you know, kind of an up and
down year a year ago. I bring it up because
as we come on air under three minutes to go,
the Georgia Bulldogs up thirteen to twelve in this game.
By the way, j mart I miss this because we're
kind of literally coming on air, Mark Stoops punted.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Yeah. I can't believe it.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
I was about to ask you, was I nuts? But
I was just like where you were at midfield on
fourth down. I just feel like you gave them the
football and gave them the game because it's very likely
you don't even see the football again, if you're Kentucky.
I was shocked you didn't go for it on fourth
down right there. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
So I'm trying to catch up because I you know,
get you know, switching over the studio, trying to get
caught up. But Georgia is up thirteen twelve. We have
hit what they're calling in college football the two minute timeout.
We're not going to call it two minute warnings, so
let's not call it the two minute warning. I forget
who was I think Mike Tarico may have made fun
of it on one of the Thursday night games. But
so let me let me make sure that I have
(03:48):
this straight. So Kentucky on their own forty eight trailing
thirteen twelve, with three twenty seven to go.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
I think it's fourth and eight. I think it would
have been fourth and eight.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Okay, okay, fourth and eight. Yes, yes, you're right, you're
right it was fourth and eight. I apologize. Good catch
on you. There was a it looks like a penalty
pushed it back to fourth and thirteen. Butt. The bottom
line is three twenty seven to go. Now, I believe
they had all three timeouts plus the two minute timeout,
which I joked about, so essentially four timeouts, but three timeouts.
(04:22):
You're trailing thirteen twelve against the number one team in
the country. You're on inside the fifty. I have a
feeling this is a conversation that not only you and
I are going to have, but anybody who talks about
college football for a living. I don't want to put
words in your mouth, but giving the Georgia Bulldogs the
ball back.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
I'm just stull. Like I said, I'm stunned. I'm glad
you're saying this because when it was happening in real time,
you know, we were opening the show, so I knew
you weren't going to go to it then, but it
was it was baffling. When I saw the kicker out there,
I was just sure they were going to go four
on fourth because about three minutes left, you're gonna give
Georgia the ball back with a one point lead. I
understand Mark st believes in his defense, and his defense
(05:02):
certainly has come to play here, but do you really
think your offense is gonna end up that close? Like
I just felt like you had to right there because
they can easily just drown the clock out now, and
beat you by one if not beat you by a
field goal, if they score a touchdown in games over,
I just think you took it out of your team's
hands and gave Georgia the opportunity to run it out
(05:23):
on you.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
So I'm looking right now, so Stuart Mandel from the
Athletic Just so I have this straight, Kentucky down one
punted to the number one team of the country with
the possible number one QB in the draft. That was
Stuart Mandel, Trey Wallace, a buddy of both of ours
from OutKick looking back, Mark Stoops and Kentucky should have
gone for it. But hey, I'm not an overpaid college
football coach. Let's see here, Brandon Walker from Barstool, who
(05:47):
does a great job covering college football. Stoops punts on
fourth and eight from midfield with three minutes left and
a chance to beat number one ball game. So it
does not feel as though this is a very appreciating choice. Yes, yes, yes,
And so just to be clear, the number one Georgia
Bulldogs for people just joining us, we have hit the
(06:08):
quote unquote two minute timeout. Kentucky I do believe still
has two timeouts themselves, but obviously a first down here,
essentially ice is the game for Georgia.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
This is just stunning, and I'm trying to you know,
this is part of the fun, but also the frustration
of doing things live is that you know you're trying
to wrap your head around everything. But yes, so Georgia
has the ball back. They have run three plays already
picked up a first down. By the way, we do
have a final in Colorado Colorado Springs is that we're
(06:43):
Fort Collins. I'm sorry, Fort Collins, Colorado. The Colorado Buffaloes
do improve to two and one. They beat Colorado State
twenty eight to nine, so we will get back to that.
But Jay Mart, let's get back to the number one
team in the country really quick. I mean, we're gonna
see this game play out, but we have crossed the
two man time out and we're gonna see what happens.
But that just feels like coaching malpractice for a coach
(07:07):
whose fan base was frustrated as they have ever been
with him last week. After you get destroyed by South
Carolina at home, Georgia now has the ball back. Kentucky
does have two timeouts, but a first down essentially seals
this game for Georgia.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Yeah, I just this just does not feel like a
decision that you make if you're Kentucky, Like you have
to play to win this game. You can't play two
as if you're just dead even with them, we're gonna
punt him down one, Like you can't be arrogant enough
to think that Georgia is not gonna get a couple
first downs and just beat you. And like they've just
(07:40):
handed this, arguably to me. They've just kind of handed
this game away. And this is a game that you
kept waiting for Georgia to do something special and it
just never happened. Like Kentucky was just right there with them,
So why not on fourth and eight, you're gonna give
him the ball back about midfield. If you don't get it,
it's not like you're on your own thing fifteen yard line.
(08:01):
That's where it's even more baffling. But just the idea
that with three minutes left, you're gonna give your offense
time and you're gonna have that kind of field position again,
I just think that's a that's a bad bet, and
I think George is gonna escape out of this thing.
And they had it, it became easier for them as
a result of the decision making of Mark Stoops. That
(08:24):
was just a bad choice.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Yes, so Georgia. By the way, Oh did he fumble
that football?
Speaker 1 (08:29):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Oh, they're gonna look at it.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
I think, yes, so Georgia. It was about let me
see here, I have the score, the box score up here.
It was second and eight. The Georgia tight end caught
the ball on the back field. He fumbled the football,
but I think his own teammate recovered it. So for
people who are listening driving around, it was second and eight.
Georgia had the ball about midfield. A first down essentially
(08:53):
seals the victory, and it looks like they're ruling on
the field. The ball carrier was down, so we'll see
if they get an overturn. Even if they get an overturn,
I believe Georgio did jump right on that ball and
recover it, So we're gonna keep you posted on that.
But yeah, this is coaching malpractice, and especially for a
guy and Mark Stoops, who I think for the first time,
(09:15):
really felt some heat from his fan base this week.
You know a team that you know he has had
a great run at Kentucky, but last week took their
third straight loss to South Carolina. They finished seven and
five last year. He almost left for Texas A and
M and so to get embarrassed like the in the
manner that they did. Let's see here the call is reversed,
(09:38):
So what does that mean. It looks like I'm sorry here.
We're doing this live for people just joining us. The
number one team in the country. Georgia up thirteen to twelve,
under two minutes to go. They have the ball. A
first down would seal it. It appears as though there
was a pass out of the backfield to a tight end.
It appears as though he was close to a first down.
(10:01):
It looked as though he fumbled at J Mart, but
it looked as though it was recovered. It looked as
though they are giving Georgia the recovery, which gives Georgia
the first down, which should just about seal this game.
One forty left on the clock, Kentucky has two timeouts.
Tell me if I'm crazy, J Mart, That's what I'm seeing. Obviously,
(10:23):
we're reacting in real time. So I apologize to the
audience that I'm not giving you cold, hard facts, but
that's what I'm seeing right now.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
J Martin. Yeah, man, and look it's first down with
one forty left. It's not over. But I don't think
that you even have to listen to other college football
analysts to know what they're gonna say about this yet,
like you have to give your team a chance to win.
That was man, can you imagine what KSR is gonna
(10:51):
look like? Oh my good Kentucky Sports Radio. I understand
I'm speaking shorthand there are many people in the country
that aren't as familiar with that, but if you're into
college football, you most like they're going to maul Mark
Stoops and that right there is just an unforced error, Like, yes,
what did you how did you think this was going
(11:11):
to go? I mean you might, let's say they do
get the football back out of this, you're gonna have
almost no time and you're probably gonna have horrible field
position either way. I just think you're sitting at basically midfield.
It's not fourth and fifty. You did have a false start,
but that came on the punt, so we don't even
know if that's gonna happen on fourth and eight. Before
(11:32):
that point, fourth and eight, just just go play. I mean,
you're a quarterback. Had already scrambled for a couple of
first downs in the second half. He's a little bit mobile,
he's been smart with the football. Give them a chance,
and if it doesn't go your way, you're handing them
the ball at midfield. It's not like you helped yourself
out that much by punting them deep because they immediately
hit a pass and we're close up to midfield anyway,
(11:53):
Like this is just, honestly, in my opinion, this is
an indefensibly bad decision by a very highly paid head
coach that should know better, like this is just not
what you're doing.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
A highly paid head coach who, let's be honest, essentially
his entire mo has been win the games you're supposed to.
He doesn't have a ton of signature wins to his name.
For people who are just joining us, let's reset it.
Kentucky is hosting Georgia. Okay, Georgia is the number one
team in the country. Georgia was up. Georgia is up
(12:27):
thirteen to twelve. Kentucky has the ball. They cross the fifty.
They're on their own forty eight yard line with about
three minutes to go. The three twenty seven to be exact,
they have crossed the fifty up or down one against
the number one team in the country. Mark Stoops decides
(12:49):
to punt the ball. Georgia gets it back. Georgia picks
up a first down. Another is a penalty right now,
which will stop the clock. You know, I'm not great
at math here because there's a block in the back.
But Kentucky still has one time out. There's a minute
nine left. But the bottom line remains, here's the day, Jason.
You know, listen, we have so much to discuss. I mean,
(13:12):
I think we're gonna spend the first two segments of
tonight's show talk in Kentucky Georgia. But we absolutely have
to continue this conversation because Georgia there was a penalty.
They have the ball back. They have the ball second
and fifteen one h nine left. Kentucky can only stop
the clock once, So Georgia does run the ball. Kentucky
(13:33):
will stop the clock with about a minute ago. I'll
tell you what, there's no perfect way to do this.
We're gonna come back, this game will probably just about
be final by then, and we are going to have
a ton to talk about. That's in addition to Colorado
winning that's in addition to a busy day in college football.
Will come back and we will talk the number one
(13:53):
team in the country almost certainly surviving, but how much
do you blame the team that they're playing? That's next

Speaker 2 (14:50):
Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio. Eric Toris Jason Martin
broadcasting live from the Tireac dot com studios. Jmart one
of the the great privileges that we have is that
when we get ready for a show, you know, we
spend all week prepping thinking we know what the stories
are gonna be, what the big narratives coming into a
(15:11):
day will be. And even sometimes, you know, we go
on at eleven pm Eastern every single Saturday, even at
ten pm Eastern, we don't always know what the story
is gonna be. That that, you know, captures America. We
have one unfolding right now, j Mart. The number one
team in the country, there are two seconds left on
the clock in Lexington, Kentucky. The number one team in
(15:34):
the country, Georgia, is playing at Kentucky. Georgia's number one
in the country. Kentucky, of course, is coming off of
a embarrassing home loss to South Carolina. Why we bring
it up? Or two seconds left on the clock? Georgia
leads by one, and if you're just joining us, there
is you know, controversy is not the right word, J Mart,
(15:56):
it was. I guess you would say coaching malpractice from
Mark Stoops. Okay, so for people just joining us, the
Kentucky Wildcats trailing thirteen to twelve at home against the
number one team in the country, with three minutes and
twenty seven seconds left, crossed midfield. They were at their
own forty eight with three twenty seven left, and decided
(16:20):
after on a fourth and I believe it was eight,
decided to punt the ball with three twenty seven left
to Georgia. Georgia does pick up a first down in
the thought process. By the way, Kentucky had three timeouts
plus the new two minute timeout in college football. We're
not allowed to call it a two minute warning, but
I just, oh, my goodness, what is he doing. He's
(16:41):
spiking the ball. So there's three seconds left on the clock.
Now Kentucky has spiked the ball. Jmar barring a miracle,
Kentucky is going to lose this game. And listen. I
know that it's easy for us in front of a
mic to sit there and say could a, should have,
would have whatever. But you're at home. The fan base,
I think with Mark Stoops and you live in that
(17:03):
area of the country, you live in Tennessee for people
who don't know which borders Kentucky, I think the fan
base was as frustrated with that coaching staff as they've been,
maybe since the day he took the job. Coming off
a seven and six year and we do have a
final as the number one rank. Georgia Bulldogs beat Kentucky
thirteen to twelve final score. Let me finish setting this up,
(17:25):
Kentucky had the ball on their own forty eight three
twenty seven left and decided to punt the ball on
fourth and seven rather than going for it. Georgia did
pick up a first down, there was a penalty which
allowed Kentucky to get the ball back with about thirteen
or so seconds left, but Georgia survives the story of
(17:47):
the night Kentucky deciding to punt the ball on their
own forty eight with three twenty seven left, trailing the
number one team in the country by one point.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
I don't know what to say other than if you
are Mark Stoops, you're going to go into that locker
room and look at guys that played well enough to
beat the number one team in the country on their
home field tonight, and you're gonna have to look at
them and say, I actually didn't give you the best chance,
because that's what happened. You made their job more difficult.
(18:20):
You challenged Georgia to get like two first downs to
basically win the game. And that's what Georgia did. I mean,
they didn't end up kicking the field goal. They weren't
going to risk getting that blocked in a one point game,
but they basically left them with no time. You were
at midfield, which is excellent. That might be the closest
that you're going to get. If you do get the
(18:41):
ball back, you might not have anywhere near midfield by
that point. I understand that you love your defense and
you trust your defense, but that's the number one team
in the country. This is what they're supposed to do.
You can't give them the football and dare them to
beat you, because that's exactly what they just did. That
was that was that was not playing to win. It
(19:03):
really wasn't. I don't know what you actually classify that
decision as I understand you have a bunch of timeouts.
I get all that, but situational awareness and common sense
dictate in that situation. If you were Kentucky coming off
the loss last week, everything else, and I'm not even
saying that that's what you factor in other than look,
you're not gonna be in a college football playoff, but
(19:26):
you have an opportunity to beat the number one team
in the country. And get yourself back off the mat
in front of your home crowd. Nobody's gonna be upset
if you don't get fourth and eight. Nobody in that
crowd is going to be upset with you if you
go for it, if you say you know what, I
believe in our guys and you give them the opportunity
to go win the game as opposed to desperation stops defensively,
(19:49):
no one is going to be upset. But everyone is
going to be upset if what you did didn't work
and the chances were just not very good that you
were going to get the football back and be able
to do anything with it. Oh look, Mark Stoops is
a really good football coach. That was a really bad decision.
It really was, and he is going to get absolutely
murdered for it in the press in Lexington, in sec country,
(20:13):
and I would say nationally and deservedly.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
So here you go. Bobby Reagan, who is a Kentucky
fan who works for barstool, I want to make sure
that this headline is appropriate. Okay, here you go. This
is an appropriate headline. Mark Stoops punting from the forty
seven yard line, down by one to Georgia with three
minutes to go was the softest, dumbest begging to lose
play ever. Not sure if that's AP style compliant, that headline,
(20:38):
but I think it's certainly. It certainly fits the bill
it was. I mean, it's just it's jarring. I don't
know what else there is to say, because listen, context matters.
Context matters in this situation. Okay, this is I'm trying
to First of all, I'm trying to think of the
scenario where it would be okay to punt that ball.
(21:01):
I can't think of a great one. But I think
the counter to that is that this was the exact
scenario where you go for it. Your fan base is
as frustrated with you as I think they've been, maybe
since before, maybe since the day you took the job.
And I mean that like ever, like they weren't frustrated
with you the day you took the job. You get
the point, though they were, they are, They're as frustrated
(21:24):
with you as they've ever been after an embarrassing loss
to South Carolina. Your guys play their hearts out, your
guys have a chance. And by the way, this wasn't
fourth and eight. You know on you know your own
twenty two or whatever. Like we're not talking about, you know,
even if you get the first down, you gotta go
another seventy yards, Like we're talking about the fact that
(21:47):
you know, you know, you're you're right on the cusp.
But Georgia territory. I think I have said a couple
of times that they were inside the fifty, so I
guess they were technically right outside the fifty. But it
doesn't change the fact that this fan base is frustrated.
You had a chance. And I think the point that
you brought up, Jamart is so important is if there's
(22:07):
not going to be a fan, there will be because
you know, social media is full of idiots, message boards
and full of idiots whatever. But I would say the
majority ninety nine percent of fans would rather see you
go for it and not get it, then punt it
and hope. And you know, I'm not great with the
(22:27):
with the math of how much time they could have
possibly had, But what are we talking about realistically? You know,
I don't know a minute, you know, ninety seconds. It's
like it just feels like the game is there, the
game is there for you. You had a chance to
win back your fan base and you choose not to.
(22:48):
By the way, for people just joining us, Georgia survives
thirteen twelve. The story here is Jay Martin and I
are discussing. Kentucky has the ball their own forty eight
yard line with three twenty seven left. They decide to
punt it. They don't get it back until there are
like ten twelve seconds left on the clock. Oh my goodness,
(23:09):
j mart it is. It is frustrating, man.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
There is no shame at all in giving it your
best shot and losing to Georgia. Ever like it for
any team in what we know Georgia to be, there's
no shame in that. However, there is shame in the
way that they just lost. That is it's kind of
unfathomable to think about that, but it's true, and it
has nothing to do with the athletes on the field.
(23:35):
The decision that was made took it out of their hands,
made it so much harder on them to win, did
not show faith in the offense that had actually, you know,
done pretty well throughout the course of the night. It
was a defensive struggle. Yards were hard to come by,
but fourth and eight at midfield, I'm gonna give them
a chance, especially on a night where my defense was
(23:57):
playing pretty well. So the idea kick him deep and
what force a turnover, because that's likely to happen because
George is real, real prone to turn the football over.
That's the thing that they do an awful lot at Georgia.
I just it's baffling to me. I look forward to
seeing what the discourse is over the next twenty four
to forty eight hours. But this decision, like he's gonna
(24:18):
get asked about it immediately in the in the post game,
and I can't wait here exactly what he says. I'm
sure we'll get it before the end of the program,
but I just I hope he has a good answer.
I hope he can let us know because it's one
of the it is. It is a loser decision that
it is not going to win the game. You do
not beat a team like Georgia not taking risks. You
(24:42):
do not beat a team like Georgia playing safe. And
I don't know what that was. That wasn't even playing safe,
that was playing dumb. That was that is something that
a coach like that, there should be somebody on the
sideline to be like, hey, Mark, you serious, Clark, Like no,
we're gonna go for it. We need to go for it.
(25:02):
Look where we are in the field. Look how much
times left, and look who's on the opposite side. That's
Kirby Smart. That's what they do. They're gonna get the
football back and then we're probably not gonna have a chance.
We have to go for it right now. No one
did that. I'm surprised to quarterback or somebody else didn't say, hey,
Mark Man, hey coach, can we have a shot here,
because I'm afraid we're not gonna get the ball back?
(25:23):
Like and guess what you did, but Yakanda didn't. And
now you lose a couple of quick.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
Things because I do want to get to this acre one.
You know what stands out to me is a couple
of things. One year at home, you're facing the number
one team in the country. You're not like the number
There are situations where, okay, I understand it, Okay, you're
you know it's it's it's week eleven and you're in
the thick of the playoff race, right and we don't
(25:48):
know what the playoff will look like. But basically, if
if you know you have two losses and if you
lose this game. No, No, you're freaking Kentucky. Okay, And
I hate to be rude, and I hate to be crass,
because that fan base is incredible. They showed out tonight.
They deserve credit for showing up. And that's the frustrating part,
is not is that there may be is a circumstance
where I sort of understand, but what are you really
(26:11):
playing for at this point? I hate to be a jerk.
You're freaking Kentucky. You're not going to the playoff? You
look at the schedule, you know. I don't want to
say they're not gonna get Bowl eligible because if you
play like this the way you did against Georgia, you're
gonna beat a lot of teams. But what is the
best case scenario the difference between seven and five and
eight and four if you pawn it? Maybe no, No,
it's just I don't know, man, it's just so frustrating.
(26:35):
And I think what's so interesting is this exact moment
in time where he's coming off an embarrassing loss to
South Carolina. It's their third straight loss to South Carolina.
They're coming off a seven and five year that most
people deem to be disappointing everyone had given up on
your team locally after that loss last week. You come back,
you look better, and this happens, jam Or. I don't
(26:57):
know if you have anything else to add, but it's
just I'm just I'm frush straighted for Kentucky fans, and
I'm not a Kentucky fan.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
I am too, And like I said, I might have
to go to the KSR boards. I might. I might
have to go to the message boards here live on
the air at some point because I can't even imagine
the just level of angst and vitriol that is going
towards Mark Stoops. I cannot You said the majority would agree.
(27:25):
I would say there is a very very tiny minority
out there that's going to try to defend this. And
if I don't know what I say, if i'm Mark Stoops,
I wonder if he already knows he made the wrong decision.
I wonder if he's figured it out yet, or if
he's stubbornly still thinks that's exactly what he should have done.
If he stands up in that press conference he says,
(27:47):
you know what, we probably should have gone for it,
I might have more respect for it. But at the
same time, that's a mistake you can't make. That's a
mistake that when they're paying you that kind of money
and you're against that team, that's a game that you,
honestly you really could have won. I'm not gonna say
you should have won, but you were in position, you
really were, and you took it out of your own
(28:08):
team's hands and basically dared Georgia to beat you, which
is not gonna be a winning strategy.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Yes, and that's I'm not even a Kentucky fan it
I'm frustrated. It's unbelievable for people just joining us. The
number one team in the country. Georgia survives thirteen twelve.
They win in Lexington. Not trying to steal the thunder
from Disager's update here, but the story. Mark stoops on
his own forty eight three twenty seven to go, trailing
(28:33):
by one point, punts the ball back against the number
one team in the country. They don't get it back
until there's under fifteen seconds to go, and the game
ends with a Georgia win. Fox Sports Radio ertors Jason Martin,
broadcasting live from the ti Ireq dot Com studio, should mention,
by the way, Rapid radio is the official communication device
of Fox Sports Radio. The Rapid Radios folks visited the
(28:55):
La studios of Fox Sports Radio this weekend, had a
blasketting to know the whole team. Rapid Radios are instant

(29:17):
We'll come back. We'll talk about the rest of a
busy Saturday. In college football, Number one Georgia survives. It
was another SEC team, though in their backup quarterback, which
might ultimately be the biggest story from this weekend. That's next.
Before we get there, though, let's toss over the news
desk to Saga. Sorry, thank you for your patience. To Saga,
(29:37):
we had a lot of anger to get out about
the Kentucky decision.
Speaker 5 (29:40):
Right now, you agree with us, Steve Well, Obviously Stoops
made the right decision because they had ten whole seconds
to work with they got to do, he said sarcastically.
I would add to the discussion that on Kentucky's previous drive,
they kicked a fifty one yard field goal, which means.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
Oh, no, I didn't even know. I didn't even know
it him.
Speaker 5 (29:59):
For if you all ford on the fourth down from midfield,
you don't have to get another first down after this
to kick a winning field goal.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
If you convert your in field goal range just about Yeah,
I don't need a second first down, right, that's a
great call. And you have all your timeouts obviously, so
you get in. If you convert that first down, you're
essentially in field goal. I'll shut up. I've talked enough.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
Go worse.
Speaker 5 (30:21):
You wouldn't need a second first down, that's correct, because
they were what was a fifty one yard field goal,
so they're at about the early thirties thirty two ish.
With the previous drive. You wouldn't have to drive as
far as the thirty to try a similar attempt, and
it would be to win this time. So Georgia wins
thirteen to twelve at Kentucky. It has won forty two
(30:41):
straight games in the regular season. It is now beaten
Kentucky in fifteen straight seasons. I was surprised at how
long the list is of one college opponent beating another
year after year. Every year for about the last fourteen
it was Ford over Kentucky for like no, I mean
like current streaks in Ohio State killing Indiana, or Alabama
(31:03):
over Arkansas, South Carolina whipping Vanderbilt every year.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Things like that.
Speaker 5 (31:07):
We do have the good news for those who got
certain channels as they woke up this morning, Disney and
DirecTV reached an agreement and principal on a new carriage deal,
so extra football was available compared to the last couple
of weekends. Disney has now had a major carriage dispute
three of the past four years, all during football season.
And you were talking about Florida's coach Billy Napier, who
(31:28):
signed through twenty twenty eight. I have read that his buyout,
if it's done this year, would be over twenty five
million dollars eighty five percent of his salary for each
year left on the deal. Florida lost at home thirty
three to twenty to Texas A and M. Today it
was thirty three to seven. Late in the third quarter.
Toledo won at Mississippi State forty one seventeen. Pitt came
(31:50):
back with two touchdowns in about the last three minutes
to beat West Virginia thirty eight thirty four. Memphis is
three to zero after winning at winless Florida State twenty
to twelve, and there are three late games BYU leads
at Wyoming twenty seven seven late in the third quarter,
at cal California seven to three over San Diego State
early in the second Fresno State at home now leads
(32:12):
twenty one nothing over New Mexico State early in the
second quarter. I mentioned the Georgia victory on the road.
Number two Texas at home won fifty six to seven
over ut San Antonio. Quarterback Quinn Ewers left with a
strained abdomen. Wins in the top ten for Alabama and
old miss for Oregon and Miami. Number seven Tennessee. Are
you aware of this, guys? They were already ahead thirty
(32:33):
to nothing in the first quarter and then executed an
on side kick to make it thirty seven nothing by
the end of the first quarter.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
They could have won. They could have put one hundred up, Yes,
if they had really wanted to. I mean they called
off the dogs at like seventy.
Speaker 5 (32:47):
But not in the first quarter with an on side kick.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Yeah, sixty five nothing at halftime. That's Carreert right now.
Speaker 3 (32:53):
Goodness, and Nico only had like one touchdown, Like he
wasn't even in there long at all. Like my wife asked,
did you go over to the Tennessee game, was like,
it's Kent State, and she's like, I just want to
see a couple plays. So it went over and it
was fourteen fifty six left in the second quarter and
it was thirty seven to nothing, and she goes, Okay,
I've seen enough and had a big giant smile on
(33:14):
her face. I was just like, you should be ashamed
of yourself.
Speaker 5 (33:16):
That was about a fifty point underdog, down sixty five
not fin at the half. Tennessee the offense had seven
hundred forty yards. Tonight final score seventy one nothing over
Kent State. Number six Missouri beat Boston College in a comeback.
They were down first half twenty seven to twenty one.
Missoo LSU a winner at South Carolina, thirty six thirty
(33:37):
three victories for Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Wins for Utah, Michigan, Nebraska,
and number eighteen Notre Dame, which won at Purdue sixty
six to seven. Forty nine ers running back Christian McCaffrey
was placed on injured reserve as for the late ball games,
and there are just two weeks or so left in
the MLB regular season. Houston is ahead four to two
(33:58):
at the Angels to end of the seventh inning. The
Mariners are tied four to four with Texas in the
bottom of the seventh inning. Padres have won eight nothing
at San Francisco. Victory's for Milwaukee and for Atlanta, which
beat up the Dodgers ten to one, while the Mets
lost today six ' four at Philadelphia. So the Mets
and Braves are now tied for the final NL wild
(34:19):
card Baltimore one. Yankees lost back to you.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
Thank you very much, Steve de Seger. This is Fox
Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday, as we close in on
midnight Eastern ertors. Jason Martin broadcasting live from the TIAQ
dot Com studios. We'll come back and it's not often
we talk about backup quarterbacks on this show, but boy,
oh boy, did maybe the most famous, maybe the most
(34:43):
famous backup quarterback in football period put on a show today.
We'll see if there's any questions to ask coming out
of it. That's next. Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Welcome back everybody, Fox Sports Radio. Eric or Jason Martin,
broadcasting live from the tay Iraq dot Com studios, talked
a lot about the decision decision Mark Stoops punts the
ball on his own forty eight against the number one
team in the Georgia, number one team in the country, Georgia.
(35:16):
Georgia survives. Get back to that later in the show.
Not often that we would talk about a fifty six
to seven win, Jmark, But there's ever time. Today is
the night, and the reason is Texas beats Utsa fifty
six to seven. But here's the here's the rub, here's
the catch. Quinn Ewers, the starting quarterback. You know, everybody
(35:37):
knows who he is, what he's about, et cetera. Quinn
Ewers goes out of the game. I believe it was
like a muscle strain in his in his abdomen or
something like that. And uh, but I bring it up
because most famous backup in all college football, maybe in
all of football, Arch Manning comes in nine of twelve passing,
four passing touchdowns, one rushing. To j mart I don't
(36:03):
want to say it, but is it too early. To
talk about a quarterback controversy at Texas.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
There's gonna be a lot of people that do talk
about it. I don't think there is one, but I
think that it's a good problem to have if you're Texas,
because yeah, Art looked great. I mean, this is exactly
what you want. You put him in there against the
team it's not quite up to stuff obviously with your
talent level, and he gets all kinds of confidence early.
He's got guys making plays for him everywhere, and he's
(36:29):
making plays. He breaks off a big, you know, fifty
plus yard rushing touchdown. He throws a couple of deep
bombs that looked great. His first pass, his first play
from scrimmage was a nineteen yard touchdown pass. Like, I mean,
you couldn't have scripted it better. It was perfect. It
really was like there was nothing really to take away
from it negative. You saw all the stuff that you
(36:51):
wanted to see from March, Like, I watched a good
bit of it once he got into the game. I
didn't watch too much prior to that because I just
didn't anticipated being much of a game and it really wasn't.
But once he got in there, you certainly wanted to
see it. The future is bright for Texas. We already
knew that. It's not like Arch was not going to
be good. Uh And you realize now, if you wers
(37:12):
were to go down, you're still a national championship contender.
Like that, that I think is what you look at.
You can see it that there are there are some
teams that are no longer contenders because you can look
at their quarterback and realize they're not it here. You
you're too deep. You're one of the only teams that
I can remember in several years that's too deep at
(37:34):
QB one. If viewers is not available, that Arch is
going to be right there. If viewers is, you still
can win the championship. Like it doesn't even matter at
this point. But that's that's that's why so many people
talked about him, not just his last name, but his
last name plus the talent and the difference being the athleticism,
and you saw it all on display. He gave you.
(37:54):
He gave you the whole deal. Like he he basically
showed you his CV out there. It was his resume.
This is why he was talented, This is why he
was talked about. Yes, his last name had a lot
to do with it, but he's just really good and
it was it was something to see.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
It really was, Yeah, I'm with you, really fun day.
Don't think that Quinn Ewers is not getting this job. Heck,
when he comes back, what do yours? By the way,
fourteen to sixteen, passing two touchdowns when he was in
the game. The one thing I will say, I listen,
I'm not a doctor, believe it or not, surprise surprise,
hosting Fox Sports Radio midnight Eastern. Probably not a stunner that.
(38:30):
I also don't have an MD, but abdomen injuries sometimes
do take a while to recover. And if you look
at Texas's schedule, U L Monroe next week, then Mississippi
stayed at home, then a bye heading into the Oklahoma game.
So I don't think there is I don't think it's
(38:50):
out of the realm of possibility that arch pro probably
gets the start next week. And again we'll see. I
don't want to start just throwing stuff against a wall,
but it wanted. It wouldn't shocked me if he got
more game time and game reps. And I got to
give credit where it's due, right is that you know
you hear the hype and how much of how good
is he really? How much of it is because of
his last name. He absolutely looked the part of a
(39:13):
five star kid. And you know, and by the way,
like credit to him, you know, for for you know,
it sounds weird to say this because it's only a
second year, but for sticking it out.
Speaker 4 (39:22):
You know.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
I think there was some speculation that when quinn Ewers
decided to return for another year of college, does does
Arch want to sit on the bench for another year? Well,
you know, one in football, you hate to say it,
but you're only a play away from from being QB one,
but two, you know, could have transferred somewhere else, but
decides to stay. And I don't really have a ton
(39:43):
else to add, but he absolutely positively looked the part.
I don't think there's a QB controversy, but I do
think that Texas is in good hands no matter who
is the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
Yeah, I mean right, I think that again, you're gonna
be fine if you have a backup quarterback and into arches.
And I'm sure he got this advice from his relatives.
But you don't have to be in a hurry man,
like you're in a good system. You're learning around a solid,
offensive minded head coach that understands the NFL side as well.
(40:14):
You are obviously have the pedigree, and you have guys
that can help you in that way, and you're gonna
get your chance, like you're gonna get the opportunity. The
fact that yours comes back isn't necessarily a slight on you.
It just you know you're gonna have that moment in
the sun yourself. You don't have to rush this. You're
gonna get to the NFL unless you're terrible, And no
(40:35):
one thought that he was terrible to begin with. I
like the fact that he didn't feel like he had
to go somewhere else just so he could play right now,
because he's just gonna be more seasoned. He's just learned
some things.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
Welcome in everybody, Hour two tours and Martin Fox Sports Radio.
We are broadcasting live from the tyraq dot com studios.
Tyraq dot com. We'll help you get there an upmatch election,
fast free shipping, Free road has a protection and over
ten thousand recommended installers. Tirerack dot com the way tire
(41:10):
buying should be. We are taking up till two am
Eastern Time. A lot of college football that we did
not get to if you missed it. The number one
ranked Georgia Bulldogs survived thirteen to twelve when Mark Stoops,
the Kentucky head coach, decided to punt the ball with
what about three minutes of twenty seven seconds left, didn't
(41:31):
get the ball back till there were ten seconds left.
Georgia survives, by the way, I just saw Iowa Sam
in the hallway. Iowa Sam. You know, punt to win? Baby,
No one epitomizes punt to win quite like Iowa Sam.
But oh my goodness, that's one they'll be talking about
quite a bit in the coming days. Jmart And yeah, well,
(41:56):
do you got something else? Do you got something else?
Speaker 3 (41:58):
I'll just read a couple of the please do it.
The titles from Kentucky Sports Radio. The board.
Speaker 2 (42:04):
This is message board titles.
Speaker 3 (42:06):
Yes, all right, here's message board title number one. Coward.
Here is another one, fire Stoops. Here's another one. Earth
to Stoops? Anyone home? Here's another one. The punt Heard
round the Bluegrass. Here's another one. What an absolutely horrendous
way to play to lose? Now those are just the
title of the threads and they're like teens of replies
(42:29):
in all of these. I don't have a membership to KSR,
so I can't actually go on and look at the things.
But just based on the titles, there's not one and
there's an oh, here's another one. I'm sick. Yep, this
is not this is not starting out real well for
mister Stoops. I really do want to hear how he
explains that decision because I don't think that it's going
(42:50):
to be satisfactory to his fan base.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
Yeah, we are monitoring right now for any Mark Stoops sound.
I do think he's already said at the podium that
he doesn't regret that he does not regret punting the ball,
So we will monitor that and we'll get back to
college football here in just a little bit. But with
that said, do want to go ahead switch gears? We'll
(43:14):
get to the NFL. And I hate to do it
because there's so much great football that we saw last weekend, today,
and so much to be excited about tomorrow. But we
know what the biggest story in the NFL is right now.
It stems from the Thursday night game. Buffalo Bills just
destroy the Miami Dolphins in that one final score is
(43:36):
thirty one to ten. It was not that close, but
of course, story of the game, you know, just an awful, awful,
awful situation to a Tongua Iola another concussion third quarter
running for a first down, puts his head down and
then goes down and does not get back up. You know, listen,
(43:59):
j Mart, you know it's part of the non fun
part of what we do and what we talk about.
But it's obviously created, you know, quite a bit of
discourse in our business, and not just in our business,
to be fair, in all of football.
Speaker 3 (44:11):
You know.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
Antonio Pierce was asked about it at his media availability yesterday,
the Las Vegas Raiders head coach who played in the
NFL for years. Obviously, Mike McDaniels had to address it
two or three times. What to his future is We're
not doctors, we're not claiming to be doctors. But it's
the biggest story in the NFL right now. What was
your take from from Thursday night? And then of course
(44:34):
what what you know, what what happens going forward?
Speaker 3 (44:37):
I was just sad. Yeah, I didn't get to watch
the game live. I went saw a documentary that night,
but got home and saw that and I was sick,
and then you watched the hit for stuff. It's DeMar hamlin,
I know, kind of unreal, and there's nothing overly violent
about it. It's just it's just a you know, hex
(45:00):
book tackle and to his body, and just when he
goes into that fencing position, and the fact that we've
now seen that multiple times in his career, it's just
so frightening. The point that you made is incredibly important
and it can't be lost, and that is we are
not doctors. I don't know how severe this concussion is.
(45:20):
I don't know what the danger is here. I don't
know about all those things. I do know that, unfortunately,
this is not a surprise because this is how Tua
has This is how Toua's body has reacted to some
of these shocking moments when his body gets hit and
it stinks. I can't say he needs to retire or
(45:43):
he doesn't need to retire, because I don't know enough
about all of the circumstances to know it. I respect
those that played the game that say he should and
those that think that he will not, that it needs
to be taken out of his hands. All of those
things I agree with McDaniel in that way that you
don't ask me to do that right now. I have
(46:06):
no business trying to make that decision for Tua. I
just hope he makes the right decision for his family.
I hate that his career could come to an end
like this, but I would much rather end now, if
indeed the doctors say, hey, there's a massive risk at
this point for you to keep going. I would much
rather his career have to come to an end than
(46:27):
the news stories that could come out twenty five or
thirty years from now about what's happened to him. It's
just a frightening, scary scenario, and it is the nightmare
scenario both for Tua and his family as well as
the Dolphins, because whatever their season was going to be,
it was going to hinge on Tua. Remember, and we
(46:49):
talked about this in the off season. He was healthy
all last year, but I felt like that was still
more the aberration, like we needed to see more of that.
So why I was kind of hesitant on paying him
and all these things. I don't know what you tell
him to do. I just think we have to sit
back and see if there is more detail that comes
out about this what we learn. Again, I don't know
(47:11):
what the level of concussion is, and I don't know
how bad this one was in comparison to some of
the other ones. If there is a true risk to
his life or his quality of life, then I hope
he makes the proper decision for his family, which I
think is likely to be to stop playing. But I
don't know that you can convince somebody that's that young
(47:34):
to walk away from something he's devoted his life to.
Speaker 2 (47:37):
Yeah, it's so hard, and listen, you know this is
the biggest cop out ever. But I listen. I don't
think I'm the only person in the media that's saying
it is like it's hard for me a cop out. Yeah, no,
I know, I know. Well, thank you for saying that,
because sometimes, you know, you do feel like it, but
it's like, it's not my decision, and right, and I'm
(47:58):
not smart enough to know if there's a difference. You know,
he had too a few years ago, Right, Is there
a difference between the second and the third and the
third and the fourth and the fourth and the fifth, like, like,
is there a point of diminishing returns? I don't know,
and I don't want to dismiss or diminish. But it's
(48:19):
also like if he I don't know, like you know,
and I don't even know. Man, it's just so tough
because you know, you see other people talking about it
and other people have these stances. But I mean, this
is what this guy has trained his whole life for
and to just give it up on a random Friday,
(48:39):
you know, by the way, coming off the best year
obviously of his professional career, so much excitement about this organization,
with the pieces they've put around him, just signed the
huge extension. Like it's hard for me if a doctor
clears him to sit here and say, oh, I mean
you have to do this, or you have to retire,
or you have to whatever, and it's like, I just
(49:01):
I don't know, you know, I just I really don't
know in terms of what is the actual right decision.
It's just I don't know, you know, It's it's just
it's great.
Speaker 3 (49:11):
And the other thing you talked about the contract sign
the off season, like I don't know the specifics of it,
but at least one of the articles that I read
following the game is that if he were to make
the decision that he had to walk away the guaranteed
money is not necessarily guaranteed. So without knowing all those
specifics financially, is he where he needs to be? I
(49:35):
don't know. This was the one that was going to
make him, you know, set him up for life. Pretty much.
This is going to set him and his family and
their family and everything else for generations. Probably is going
to set them up. So that's another factor in here. Now.
Money should not trump quality of life. I understand that.
And I don't know how stubborn, if you want to
(49:56):
use that term to it is if this did turn
out to be bad. But I don't think it's a
cop out to say we really don't have any business
trying to say point a finger and say you should
do this or you shouldn't do this. Well, because we
don't want to have a degree too. We haven't seen
the official diagnosis, and I think, I think what we
need to do is hope and pray that the decision
(50:19):
that he makes is best for his family, that he's
able to make the proper choice, and that if he
does continue to play, we just pray his body's going
to hold up for him, because we don't want to
have this conversation again in six weeks if you were
to come back, or even next year or whatever like that, like,
let's hope whether he plays again or not, that this
is the last time we have to talk about a
(50:40):
new head injury for Twatongo Vailoa.
Speaker 2 (50:43):
Here's the only thing I would say to that. So
I agree with what you said. I'm not disagreeing with
that part. But you know three and two years, you know,
multiple season ending injuries in college or you know, I
guess one in college, but whatever, But you know, I
guess what I would say is I just I find
it really hard to believe that there wouldn't be another one.
(51:03):
And so I guess that's the question, right, is like
how many is to the point where and maybe they're
at some point a doctor does step in and say,
you know, you're putting your your long term health at risk,
blah blah blah, this and that, because that's the only
thing is you know, uh, as bad as you know,
as bad as one is, this isn't one. And so
I guess I just wonder. And again we're not doctors.
(51:25):
We don't have the answer, but it's like, you know,
you just sit there and you just wonder, like what
it's just hard to imagine that there wouldn't be another
one at some point. Obviously, nobody's asking for that, praying
for it, you know, hoping that it never happens again.
But it's just that that's the only part. It's like,
you know, we can sit here and say, listen, I
think we both agree, like we can't tell a man
(51:46):
what to do with his career if the doctors clear him.
Who are we to say that you shouldn't keep going
if you want to keep going? But I just don't
think at this point, you know, you can realistically expect
for it to never happen again. And again, I think
I think that to me, and we're just talking this
out in real time, but you know, I think that
to me is kind of the real question, right, is
if the doctor's clear you and you say I'm coming back, Like,
(52:11):
what is the one that makes you say you're going
to stop? Is it only when the doctors say that
the next one could have made you know, long term repercussions?
Speaker 3 (52:19):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (52:20):
Is it a certain number?
Speaker 3 (52:21):
You know?
Speaker 2 (52:21):
And I guess that's the part that that's kind of
concerning and sad and disappointing, is that there is no
you know, assuming that the doctors are going to clear
him at some point. There's just no great answer to this,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (52:32):
Yeah, I mean there's not, And I mean you're right,
and I agree with you. It would be very surprising
if you were able to not have another one. And
making a decision on your future based on the likelihood
that something is going to happen that hasn't is a
tough ask for a young athlete. I don't know what
(52:53):
I hope happens. I just hope that the right decision
gets made. Yeah, I am not trying to cop out,
but I also think that it is very, very presumptuous
to sit here and make a decision for him not
knowing all the factors surrounding it. I think that's a
dangerous game. I think that's speculative in a way that
it's just not something I'm comfortable doing. I just I
(53:14):
hate that we have to think about it this way.
But I just want to make sure his quality of
life is good, He's able to enjoy the remainder of
his life with his family and whatever that means. If
it means stepping away from football, then I wish him
the best either way.
Speaker 2 (53:29):
Yep. I'm glad. Not I'm glad, but I'm not surprised
that you and I are on the same page with
this as just you know, I just I've seen a
lot of you know, obviously, this happened Thursday night. We're
talking about forty eight hours ago. Now, I've seen a
lot of people, you know, have a lot you know,
have their opinions put out on this, and you know,
(53:49):
I've seen a lot of people say, you know, basically,
I've seen a lot of people say, how do I
say this properly? I've seen a lot of people telling
to what they think he should do, you know, without
you know, with whatever people in our business, not doctors,
not neurologists, not anything, just oh yeah, I mean you
(54:11):
have to retire, you have to do this, you have
to do that. And it's like it's just I don't
think it's a cop out, but it's just it's not
my place to tell a man if if you think
you can keep doing this, and if the doctor's clear
you to to stop doing it. So we will will
kind of monitor this. Obviously over the next couple of weeks.
There there is no real there is no real update
(54:32):
since since obviously everyone's you. Obviously, anyone on Fox Sports
Radio listening on Fox Sports Radio has heard probably every
host since Jason and Mike on Thursday Night probably talk
about this subject. No new updates that I'm aware of,
but obviously Tah and his health are in our thoughts,
and I think I speak for j mart when I
say both of us, whatever he decides, would just hope
(54:55):
that he's happy and that he's healthy. And if he
does come back, you know, we pray that that he'll
be okay. Fox Sports Radio Erin tors Jason Martin, broadcasting
live from the tire Rack dot Com Studios. We will
come back, we will talk another quarterback, and we will
talk maybe about something coming to an end here very soon.
This is Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back, everybody. Fox Sports
(55:20):
Radio Aeron Torris, Jason Martin, broadcasting live from the Tireck
dot Com studios. Footballfans be sure to tune into Fox
Sports Radio every Sunday morning, beginning at ten am Eastern
seven am Pacific for Countdown to Kickoff, presented by BEDMGM,
Brian No, Jeff Schwartz, and professional better Bill Krakenberg will

(55:43):
Listen to Countdown to Kickoff, presented by Bed MGM right
here on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Tell
you what, Jmart, Listen, this is a crazy night of sports.
Speaker 3 (55:57):
Here.
Speaker 2 (55:57):
We'll reset college football at the top hour. There is
some interesting updates with Billy Napier, the head football coach
at Florida. It sounds like sounds like, you know, he
might not be long for the job. We do have
some Mark Stoops sound to get to for people who
missed it. Georgia, the number one team in the country,
survives against the Kentucky Wildcats. Mark Stoops. The Kentucky head
(56:21):
coach decides to punt it on his own forty eight
yard line with about three minutes to go, doesn't get
the ball back till there's ten seconds left. They end
up losing. So we'll get back to all that. Do
you want to stay with the NFL though, Jaymart? First
of all, really quickly, anything from the Bills perspective, because
we talked about to his future everything, but there is
(56:43):
you know, there is a victor in this game. It
is the Buffalo Bills. They have largely dominated the Miami
Dolphins in this game in this series, and it's worth
noting the story of course is too But the Bills,
I'll be honest, I was sort of underwhelmed by in
Week one against Arizona. They come back and win the game,
but this game was absolute dominance.
Speaker 3 (57:04):
Three.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
You know, they took care of the ball, took care
of business. James Cook was awesome. Just any big picture
thoughts on the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 3 (57:13):
Just as they're doing what they should be doing based
on what they still have in terms of talent. But
I do think this was a very This is a
powerful win because I mean before two it went out,
he threw three picks. Like I know, it's hard to
say that now because of what happened to him, but
he played awful and it was because a lot of
(57:34):
it was because the Bills were that good Defensively. You
end up with seventy eight yards from your running back
on eleven carries. He's really efficient with the football. Scores
two on the ground for you. Josh Allen plays mistake
free football when it comes to protecting it, doesn't try
to do too much. Just seems like it's a good mixture.
And he's already finding some degree of comfort with some receivers.
(58:00):
He's still gonna have to work on it a little bit,
but you can't ask for more than two and oh
if you're the Bills, especially when you look around then
what you've beaten one team in division the Jets have
already lost, and the other team is the Patriots, which
even though they are one and oh, and that's a
bigger story that we can talk about. This is what
you need to do if you're the Bills. It's gonna
(58:20):
be tight. These wild cards situations. We know that it's
going to be tight throughout the AFC throughout this entire year.
You need to get off to a good start and
give yourself some breathing room to deal with potential injuries
or things like that. So being two and o and
winning one on the road as well, I mean, you
have to be pretty pretty pleased with how things have
(58:42):
played so far.
Speaker 2 (58:43):
Zero doubt Buffalo Bills do improve the two and o. Obviously,
the story is two in his health and obviously we
don't have any news that nobody else has right now,
so we're monitoring that. But to Jamart's point, can't be
better than two and oh at this point. Got to
be happy if you're a bills fan. Fox Sports radio
eritors Jason Martin broadcasting live for the tyreq dot com
studios do want to pay off what we were talking
about earlier, Jason A quarterback under fire. That's next, But
(59:07):
let's toss over the news desk get an update from
Steve de Sager. What's trending to Saga?
Speaker 5 (59:11):
Everything is final now in Major League Baseball about two
weeks left in the regular season. Seattle has just scored
a run bottom of the ninth to beat Texas five
to four. Mariners still four and a half games behind
first place Houston in the Al West. Houston won five
to three at the Angels. Easy victories for San Diego
and Milwaukee. Colorado with two and the ninth one in
the tenth beat the Cubs six to five. Playoffs, not
(59:34):
looking good for the Cubbies, who are now seventy five
and seventy three. Atlanta is even with the Mets for
the final NL wildcard spot. The Mets lost today six
to four at Philadelphia, Bryce Harper two homers. Atlanta pounded
the Dodgers ten to one, winning pitcher Chris Sales seventeen
and three. Kansas City and Cleveland each one but Minnesota
lost at home eleven to one to the Cincinnati Reds.
(59:57):
It was Baltimore four to two over Detroit, Gunner Anderson
with his thirty seventh homer, and the Orioles are two
games back of first place Yankees in the Al East.
Yankees lost seven one at home to Boston. The lost
to Garrett Cole. He allowed the seven runs in four
and a third inning. Says yeah, Ray is almost four
this year. There was a college football game of note tonight.
Number one Georgia wins again, but it was thirteen to
(01:00:19):
twelve at Kentucky. Georgia has won twenty eight straight in conference.
Number two Texas fifty six to seven over UT San Antonio.
Quarterback Quinn Yours left with a strain abdomen arch manning
off the bench with five total touchdowns. Number six Missouri
edge Boston College twenty seven to twenty one. Seventh rank
Tennessee shutout Ken States seventy one to nothing. LSU a
(01:00:41):
winner at South Carolina thirty six. Thirty three Toledo won
at Mississippi State tonight forty one seventeen and today three
and Ozero Memphis won at ohen three Florida State twenty
to twelve forty nine. Ers running back Christian McCaffrey was
placed on injury reserve with a sore calf and achilles tendonitis,
so he'll miss at least the next four games. Vikings
(01:01:02):
wide receiver Jordan Addison is out against San Francisco with
an ankle injury. Packers quarterback Jordan Love was downgraded to
doubtful for tomorrow with a sprained mcl. NFL network had
said Malik Willis could start for a few weeks there.
Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown will have shoulder surgery on Monday.
He could miss the regular season. The Bengals are at
Kansas City Sunday. Cincinnati wide out t Higgins with the
(01:01:25):
bad hamstring, doubtful for tomorrow. By the way, five players
were fined for a fight last Sunday in LA. One
Charger and four Raiders were fined. Philadelphia wide receiver AJ
Brown miss practice and is questionable for Monday with a
bad hamstring. No update on running back Kenneth Walker of
Seattle listed as doubtful for tomorrow with an oblique injury.
(01:01:45):
The Steelers had listed quarterback Russell Wilson as questionable for Sunday.
At Denver with his calf injury, but remember he did
not play the opener. Last Sunday, Justin Field started Bears
wide receiver Keenan Allen with a heel injury as a
game time decision for Sunday night, a Houston Dallas tight
end Jake Ferguson doubtful with the spring to MCL Back.
Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
To you, thanks very much, Steve de Seger. This is
Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday and to Sunday, depending
on where you are in the country, enter tours. Jason
Martin broadcasting live from the tyreck dot Com studios. So
jmart Big one last Sunday in Cleveland, and not just
because it was Tom Brady's broadcasting debut, but because the
(01:02:27):
Dallas Cowboys, to their credit, that Dak contract came out
right before kickoff, and Dak and the Cowboys looked really good,
as they often do in games where they are the
better team. Take care of business thirty three seventeen. Story
to me, though, Jamart, as much as it was Dak
and the Cowboys. Deshaun Watson twenty four forty five, one
(01:02:49):
hundred and sixty nine yards, one touchdown, two interceptions. We
know about the contract that he signed. But I'd also say,
like you probably have as much insight into this as
any anybody. You're a Broncos fan. You saw the Broncos
eat the Russell Wilson contract a year ago to start over.
I'm not saying we're quite there yet with the Cleveland Browns,
(01:03:10):
but it feels like we're pretty close. What is your
take on just what's going on in Cleveland? You know,
by the way, didn't even mention.
Speaker 3 (01:03:18):
Yeah, I was about to say you left you left one,
uh one part of this out.
Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
Yeah, there is a new sexual assault allegations.
Speaker 3 (01:03:26):
Even worse than the others. I mean, this one is legitimate.
I mean this is sexual assault slash the R word,
like this is this is really really serious again just
a just another charge. It's another allegation. We'll see, but
the larger point is he's not good and it's possible
(01:03:48):
he's never going to be good again. Like what we
remember from Houston, we have yet to see in Cleveland
and what he did on Sunday. I understand Dallas has
some players, but Sean Watson looked like he had no
business being a starting quarterback. Like he was absolutely terrible
in that game. When you consider the baggage that comes
attached to Deshaun Watson. If he's not really good, you
(01:04:10):
can't keep putting him out there for very much longer.
You just can't, because the tide turns really fast, and
there's not gonna be a whole lot of Deshaun Watson
defenders out there. They're just aren't any. I mean, there
are probably some, but again a very small number. And
the football is unacceptably bad, and they still have talent
(01:04:32):
outside of that. The defense maybe isn't quite as good
as last year, but look, Dallas just had a really
good game as well. I think they're gonna be fine.
They're gonna get chilled back at some point, and they
got talent. They have a great offensive line too, but
Watson is just Watson is subpar, and you are at
some point going to have to begin to explore an
(01:04:56):
exit strategy, and it may involve eating a ton money,
but look, CAP's going up. You right now have the
most available money I think in the NFL if you're
the Browns, so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised
if they do, you know, try to find their way
out of this in some way, and maybe who knows,
(01:05:16):
maybe the legal system is going to take its course
here and help you out on that side of it.
I know that that's not ideally what you would want
to see happen because it means someone else was victimized
in his case. But Deshaun Watson can't continue to go
out there and be this bad. He just can't like
it's It is astonishing how much he has regressed, and
(01:05:39):
there's no excuse for it, considering that coaching staff, considering
the talent on the field, there's no excuse for it
other than he's broken. He's broken in many different ways
and he was not repaired with the time that he
took off forced by the NFL. And this is why
if they had said, don't come back and play football again,
(01:06:01):
I would have been fine with it, because what have
you gained by bringing to Shaun Watson back as a league,
as a team the Browns. This is now going down
as one of the worst decisions that's ever been made.
And it wasn't good at the beginning, and then you
handed him all the money and then past that, he
doesn't look like he's worth a dollar guaranteed right now,
much less his entire contract.
Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
Kind of crazy final season in Houston, thirty three touchdown
passes since then fifteen Now in twenty twenty he had
thirty three touchdown passes. Twenty twenty one, that was the
season that he basically basically refused to play. But that
was also when all the investigations began. Investigations conclude. You know,
(01:06:45):
twenty twenty two season, he only played six games because
of an NFL suspension. Seven touchdowns, five interceptions, fifty eight
percent completion percentage seven touchdowns, four interceptions a year ago
in just six games. You know, it's kind of crazy,
j mart and I forget where you were on the
rounds going into the season. But one of the things
that was a little surprising to me, I get that
(01:07:06):
they they obviously had a late run last year, but
a lot of people like them coming into this year,
and I just said, you know, most of the I
don't want to say most of a lot of the
success though that they had was with Joe Flacco as
the quarterback. And so I just never bought the notion that, like,
you know, that that he was somehow fixed or I
you know, maybe I get that Stefanski's one of the
(01:07:27):
best coaches in the league, but it's like they are
a mess. He is a mess. And I don't know
what else there is to say. It's just it's just
a bad deal there in Cleveland right now.
Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
Jmar absolutely horrible, it really is. And you're in a
division with Baltimore. And then we're not really sure because
we can still and we will talk about the Bengals
and then the Steelers, the Russell Wilson, the fact that
Russell Wilson got hurt and never started. I don't know
if he ever does start a game for Pittsburgh. Yeah,
I'm not sure that you should have to begin with.
(01:07:59):
I know I was in minority on that, but they
even admitted, you know, he's their long term option, meaning
justin field. So I still don't know what you were
going to do in the first place. But the Browns
still have an opportunity. There seem to be a lot
of incomplete AFC teams. Now. One of the things that
we're going to learn, and I've heard a few people
say this, and they're exactly right. The beauty of Week
(01:08:19):
two in the NFL is we get to discover what's
real and what was just kind of something to happen
in Week one. As the season started. What is actually
going to stick here and what was just something that
was thrown against the wall and doesn't matter going forward,
Like the Patriots winning a game so that could be
the only game to win this year. Or is there
(01:08:40):
something dramatically different in their culture? Is there something actually
wrong with this team or that to me jump in,
we're going to start to learn some of those things.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
Let me jump in. Is there any one thing that
we saw in week one, either good or bad, that
you think is the outlier of the exception of the rule?
I have one, but I'm curious for your perspective. You
mean something that I think is legit Well, what you
just said, you said week one, you know, there's a
lot of aberrations. So something very positive like maybe the
Patriots are way better than people think, or something negative
(01:09:10):
this team won but they actually stink. Hmm, I'll give
you one.
Speaker 3 (01:09:16):
Yeah, go ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:09:18):
I don't think the Bengals are as bad as they
look the other day.
Speaker 3 (01:09:21):
Yeah. See, I don't know that that's one. That's the
first one that came to mind, just because I saw
like people to get paid seven figures to talk about football,
that we're saying stuff like if you've got Joe burrow stock,
Now is the time to sell all of it? Stuff
like that. I'm like, are you kidding me? Like that
(01:09:41):
was a direct quote from one of the biggest networks
in all of television or one of their analysts. I'm
just like, did you say that just so people would
pay attention to it? Or do you honestly believe that?
Because whatever Joe Burrows Stock you're gonna sell, I'll be
willing to buy all of that.
Speaker 2 (01:10:00):
I'm with you. And it's not only that. I mean,
you know, listen, first game back from a major injury,
no T Higgins and it's it's up in the air.
Doesn't sound like he's going to be available in week
two tomorrow for against against the Kent City Chiefs. But
you know, and by the way, Jamar Chase basically was
in and out of training camp all day. Are all
all summer long. So so that's one. Is there anything
(01:10:23):
else that you saw in week one that.
Speaker 3 (01:10:24):
You think I'll t you up? I'll tea you up
for one because I think we both kind of agree
on this. I don't think the Jets are as bad
as they looked on Monday night. Dude.
Speaker 2 (01:10:32):
I'll just I'll be quick on this is that listen.
I know I was. I was the guy that kind
of last week I said, oh you know, I said,
you know, oh you know, Trent Williams held out and
McCaffrey's not available, and blah blah, you still had to
fly across country Monday night or Monday night football, and
that team still is really good with a lot of players. Now,
(01:10:54):
I want to say this really quick. I just don't
understand people that just don't appreciate Rock Party. I think
if he was Brock Party thirty first pick in the draft,
that's right, we'd just be talking about him as that
second tier. That's not Mahomes, that's not Lamar, that's not
Josh Allen. But he's just a second tier dude. But
because he's Brock Purdy, because he's mister irrelevant when he's
(01:11:16):
really good, oh, it's only the team around him and
he's really bad. I told you he wasn't good. So
that's the first take. But the second take is exactly
what you said, Jason is. I think even with all
the questions around San Francisco, I don't think a lot
of people thought that New York was going out there
with a quarterback coming off in achilles injury and winning
(01:11:37):
that game. And so I don't know that I learned
anything about either of those teams that I didn't already know.
And I like the Jets in the preseason and I
still like him. And part of it is the schedule
starting next starting on in Week two against your Tennessee Titans,
then they play the Patriots, then they play another rookie
quarterback in Bot Knicks, then they play a backup in
(01:11:58):
Sam Darnold. I'm not saying that you wouldn't have liked
to see more in that game from the New York Jets.
I also do think that there are so many people
in the media that don't like Aaron Rodgers or don't
want to believe in this team, and so they use
this as like a jumping off point to just reconfirm
(01:12:20):
that they don't believe in Aaron Rodgers and they don't
believe in this team. And I think, listen, there's a
very good chance that he's banged up, he's forty years old,
he's not the same player, and they finished seven to ten,
But that's not the game that's going to confirm it.
I still like this team, part because of the schedule
part because of the roster, maybe a little bit more
than some So that is a big takeaway for me.
I agree with you on that.
Speaker 3 (01:12:40):
So yeah, I mean I think that Aaron Rodgers still
looked somewhat like Aaron Rodgers. I don't think that there
is deep at receiver. I don't know, Bizard. We'll see
what that is if they kind of bring back their
chemistry together. But Wilson is still a great player. We
know that. Breestall being back, I think it's going to
be fine. And you do again, as you mentioned, like
San Francisco's defense is pretty good and they were pretty
(01:13:04):
dialed in on this. Now, if the Jets continue to struggle,
it's going to fall on Sala, not on Aaron Rodgers
as long as he's healthy, because I don't see anything
that tells me Aaron Rodgers is washed or finished or
anything to that degree. Is he still Aaron Rodgers of
five years ago. No, But I think that there was
no reason to believe that anyway. Anybody that was skeptical
(01:13:24):
about Aaron Rodgers coming into the year, or has been
down on him for the last two or three years,
is just kind of patting themselves on the back because
they've lost a game. I think that there are going
to be plenty of opportunities for Aaron Rodgers to pat
himself on the back as well this year. I don't
think that they're a bad football team. I don't think
that they are complete though, and I don't think it
has to do with just as on Reddick. I think
(01:13:46):
generally there's still some holes on that team that they're
going to need to address, and maybe it still falls
into place for them. But like you look at that
division now, I do think Buffalo is the best team
in that division.
Speaker 2 (01:14:00):
Agree on Buffalo, And I do think though that the
Jets probably aren't quite as bad as we thought, or
as bad as some people are making them out to be.
Jets playing the Tennessee Titans in Week two, that is
kind of a tough turnaround. By the way, playing in
San Francisco on a Monday night, probably get back, you know,
you know, seven am Tuesday, got to turn around, go
(01:14:21):
to Tennessee to play one pm kickoff on Sunday in
Week two. Fox Sports radio er Tords Jason Martin broadcasting
live from the tyreck dot Com studios. By the way,
Jets also play Thursday nights, so a lot of quick
turnarounds with them. We'll come back though, do want to
get it over to the news desk. The Sager will
have plenty for you. That's all. Next. Fox Sports Radio,
(01:14:41):
Welcome back everybody. Fox Sports Radio, Aer Tors Jason Martin
broadcasting live from the tyrack dot Com studios. A lot
to get to that we have not had a chance
to get to yet. So why we bring in Steve
de Sager every single Sunday morning at around this time,
depending on where you are, maybe Saturday now anyway to
Saga floor is yours take it away moment.
Speaker 5 (01:15:02):
We do have late night college football, although if you're
apparently not watching San Diego State at Cal, you're not
missing monta.
Speaker 2 (01:15:08):
Aztex Atlantic Coast Conference football. Baby.
Speaker 5 (01:15:11):
That's right against the new PAC twelve team San Diego State.
Speaker 2 (01:15:15):
What was there? Was there a weather delay? Why are
they playing this Atlantic Coast Conference game at twelve forty
nine easterns.
Speaker 5 (01:15:21):
That's right acc after dark?
Speaker 3 (01:15:23):
You know how it is.
Speaker 5 (01:15:25):
San Diego State had thirteen penalties in the first half,
which apparently ties for the most in college football in
the last decade.
Speaker 2 (01:15:31):
In a first half.
Speaker 5 (01:15:32):
Cal now leads fourteen to three over the Aztecs, still
nine and a half to go in the third quarter.
And the other late game, Fresno State has just kicked
a field goal to lead forty one nothing early third
against New Mexico State BYU won its game at Wyoming
thirty four to fourteen. We had, of course, on a
Mexican holiday weekend, Canelo Alvarez boxing. He won by an
(01:15:53):
easy unanimous decision. And in Vegas there's a MMA package
with I think this is the one at the sphere.
Valentie Kana Chevchenko is in the octagon right now. Well,
college football, we had among the rivalry games, we also
had Mississippi State hosting Toledo tonight. Toledo a winner on
the road forty one seventeen. Now it's not the largest
(01:16:14):
margin of victory for a MAC team against the SEC.
That's still twenty nine points. Dating back over fifty years,
there was a game when Kentucky nineteen seventy one lost
to Ohio U thirty five to six. Mississippi State was
down thirty five to three early third quarter in this
one forty one seventeen for the Rockets. The final Colorado
(01:16:35):
won at Colorado State twenty eight to nine. It was
Washington State winning at Washington twenty four to nineteen, technically
a neutral site game because they played it at the
Seahawks Stadium in Seattle. And we had Oregon ranked ninth
winning at Oregon Stage forty nine to fourteen. Of course,
these are not conference batchups anymore. Those last two. You
(01:16:56):
might have seen the last what looked like a Big
twelve game last night with Kansas States out of Arizona.
They already had signed the freaking confusing what is going
on before Arizona went into the Big twelve. The home
and home was already signed. So this was not a
Big twelve conference game last night, okay. But the Oregon
win was today at Oregon State forty nine fourteen. It
(01:17:17):
was a twenty two to fourteen at Leite. At halftime,
quarterback Dylan Gabriel three total touchdowns. In fact, he was
twenty of twenty four passing two hundred and ninety one
yards plus a fifty four yard touchdown run. Oregon today
looked like a top ten team, no turnovers and no punts. Meanwhile,
there was no game with Portland State. It was due
to host the Great FCS program of South Dakota.
Speaker 3 (01:17:39):
State.
Speaker 5 (01:17:40):
The release from the school says, a case of whooping
cough got into our team two days ago. It's highly
coretageous affects the lungs. Many members of our team at
Portland State have been exposed to the disease. So the
two programs, they said, and their team doctors had been
discussing the situation, and Portland's State determined today's game would
(01:18:01):
not be played in the interest of the health of
the student athle I don't understand.
Speaker 3 (01:18:06):
I thought whooping cough was like element trail, like well,
I didn't know that that was still a thing.
Speaker 2 (01:18:14):
Quite literally, they might have because you know, yeah, Portland
States and then not like a good whooping cough joke.
As we approach one am Eastern Time here.
Speaker 5 (01:18:24):
As Atlanta killed the Dodgers tonight ten to one. Was
the final. It's I'm not the first or the last
to say there is genuine concern about the Dodgers starting
pitching as we head toward postseason. At this point, the
Dodgers may not even be getting the first round off.
That's how bad things have been going. And recently they've
lost four or five and pitcher Tyler glassnow and La
Native is unlikely to pitch again this year due to
(01:18:47):
a sprained elbow. The Dodgers have seven starting pitchers on
the injured list. Currently, the Dodgers are first in the
NOS three and a half games over San Diego. As
far as the Padres, it was a small acquisition, but.
Speaker 2 (01:19:02):
A big one for them.
Speaker 5 (01:19:03):
Luis Ariaz this summer, a guy who won the batting
title with Miami last year at All Star, won the
batting title the year before with the Twins, and All
Star could win the batting title again as a Padre
this year. He's struck out twice since the All Star Break,
two times total. He's gone one hundred and thirty five
consecutive played appearances without striking out. Luis Arias of the
(01:19:27):
Padres and last add on the National League. The season
that Chris Sale is having for the Braves and he
beat the Dodgers tonight is amazing. Six inning, six strikeouts tonight.
He's seventeen and three. We have two weeks left in
the regular season and Chris Sale is leading in all
three categories for the pitching Triple Crown in the National
League seventeen wins. That's tops ERA lowered to two point
(01:19:50):
three to five. That's the best, and it's best in
strikeouts again at two nineteen. That's four more k's than
Dylan Cees of the Padres, who pitched last night. National
League has not had a pitcher since Clayton Kershaw to
win the Triple Crown first in all three categories the
same season, and that was back in twenty eleven. Even
the year Kershaw won National League MVP twenty fourteen, he
(01:20:13):
did not lead all three categories. He was three ks
shit of short of Steven Strassburg in strikeouts that year.
Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
Back to you, thank you very much, to Saeger. We
appreciate everything you always do for us. This is Fox
Sports Radio aeron Tours Jason Martin. We are taking you

including maybe late breaking news at this late hour. That's

Speaker 1 (01:20:42):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:20:45):
Fulcome man, everybody, our three tours and Martin Fox Sports Radio.

tyreck dot Com. We'll help you get there. An unmatched election,
fast free shipping, free road azard protection and over ten
thousand recommended installers tyreq dot com. The way tire buying
(01:21:06):
should be. Jmar and I taking you up till two
am Eastern time. Excuse me, obviously, the great Bernie Fratto
of The Bernie Fratto Show follows us. Make sure you
stick around for Burne because you know Bernie's gonna deliver
the goods on what has been a crazy day of
college football and what will be a crazy Week two
(01:21:27):
of the NFL with all but one game kicking off
has not kicked off so far, so everything will kick
off tomorrow, except for, of course, for the Thursday night
Bill's Dolphins game. Jmart, do you want to get back
to college football for a little bit and we will
return to the NFL. Well, maybe talk a little bit
about the Georgia Kentucky game for people who missed it.
We talked about it a ton in hour one. The
(01:21:50):
Georgia Bulldogs survived thirteen to twelve against the Kentucky Wildcats.
Kentucky alects to punt the ball essentially on their side
the fifty with a penalty. It ended up getting pushed back,
but it doesn't really matter. They punt the ball with
about three minutes left, Georgia gets the ball back. They
end up running out the clock until there's under about
(01:22:11):
thirty seconds left, and at that point of course, Georgia
ends up winning the game. Do though, I want to
talk about a game that we did not talk about
in hour one and that is the Florida Texas A
and M game. Okay, so Florida obviously coming in one
in one overall, lost in week one to the Miami Hurricanes,
(01:22:33):
the game that we discussed at length that week one.
But I bring it up because they're hosting Texas A
and M on Saturday, and for people don't follow college football,
die hard whatever, a little bit of a quarterback controversy,
if you will. For Florida starter Graham Mertz got hurt
in Week one, had a concussion, ends up sitting out
(01:22:55):
last week. The five star freshman DJ Lagway comes in
is awesome. Head coach Billion decides that he's gonna play
both quarterbacks despite the freshman playing really well a week ago.
Bring it up. They're playing Texas A and M at home.
Texas A and M, who had not won a true
road game since twenty twenty one, goes into the swamp
(01:23:16):
wins thirty three to twenty. But score isn't reflective of
how one side of the game was Texas A and
M was up twenty to nothing at halftime with a
backup quarterback. And I bring it up for this reason, Jason,
is that there are now multiple reports within the last
few hours that this could be maybe the end for
(01:23:38):
billion A. Pier, the head coach of the Florida Gators.
On three is reporting the University of Florida board of
trustees has called a meeting for Sunday morning. On top
of that, Matt Hayes, who's covered college football for quite
some time he is now with USA Today, basically is
reporting that the money is being put together right now
(01:24:01):
to buy out Billy Napier as the head coach. Two
sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity,
but that basically the decision has been made to get
rid of Billy Napier. The only variable is when. Nothing's
official yet, Jmart, But you know multiple reports seeming to
(01:24:22):
indicate that just three games into the season, Billiy Napier
could be fired as Florida head coach.
Speaker 3 (01:24:27):
Yeah, I mean, I think it's a matter of when,
not if, And I think we all saw this that
you can't You're not going to get away with this
at Florida. You just can't. And they can't continue to
allow it to be this mediocre because eventually they're going
to get lapped by other teams. It's could be harder
to recruit than it has been in the past. Like,
you can't be bad for a sustain the length of
(01:24:49):
time in this era and it not affects you for
another four or five years down the road because the
SEC has gotten tougher, the SEC East and at least
the old SEC East. Uh, You've got a couple of
teams that are elevating there And at this point you
see Florida on the television schedule and you're just kind
of like that it can't feel that way that that
(01:25:11):
that is not gonna fly in Gainesville. And whoever needs
to pay whatever they need to pay to fix it
or to at least feel better about it, that's what
they're gonna do. And I still think Napier's a good coach,
but he may be a good coach that was in
over his head from the start. This may have been
a bad fit. It may also just be a bad
fit for him to be at this level, you never know,
(01:25:32):
Like there's been a there have been a lot of
great mid major coaches that it just hasn't worked out
for There's not a cut and dry it's gonna work
one hundred percent of the time decision making process as
to you hire from this pool and it's always gonna
work or you hire from that pool. But you just
kind of knew. And when you were watching that today,
it didn't matter who was in the game, even when
(01:25:54):
Lagway got in there. That's just not a good football team.
And after what they did like last year, to come
out and just look like one of the worst teams
in the SEC, that's just not it's not good enough,
and it's it's going to cost you your job. And
if it's coming from on three, I mean, you know
that's Andy Staples and Ari Washerman and those guys. I mean,
(01:26:16):
Andy's is tied into the Florida program as anybody possibly could.
And I don't think there's anybody that reads that and thinks,
oh yeah, that's that's they're jumping the gun. No, I
would be surprised if Billy Napier is not gone by Monday.
Speaker 2 (01:26:32):
By the way, Andy Staples also did write a column today.
I want to find it. Let's see here, let me
find it really quick. Sorry for the awful radio It's
all good.
Speaker 3 (01:26:45):
Well, I mean I mentioned it and that just kind
of jogged your memory to that piece. I just it's
it's a it's a rough situation.
Speaker 2 (01:26:52):
Yes, he he. He wrote a column that posted three
hours ago on on three it's a Staple. Billionnapier's time
at Florida has run out. Andy Staples is a Florida alum.
I believe he actually played there a walk in the end, So,
like you said, he's super plugged in. And yeah, no,
I think everything that you said is accurate. Is you know,
(01:27:14):
I think what stands out to me we talked about
a little bit two weeks ago when they lost to Miami.
First off, right now, Billion Apier is twelve and sixteen
in year three at Florida, six and eleven in the SEC.
A couple quick thoughts. One. First of all, they're in
the middle of their first three year streak of finishing
below five hundred since the nineteen forties. Now, one of
(01:27:37):
those years was Dan Mullen's final year, so that's worth noting.
But you go six and seven in year one, five
and seven last year. And I think there's a few things.
Is one, obviously, you've taken some really bad losses. You
lost to Arkansas last year, that was Arkansas's only SEC win.
You lost at home, lost to Vandy in year one.
But I think there's a couple other variables as well.
(01:27:58):
Is first off, it is year three and this is
the portal era. And it's not even just that it's
the portal era, but you know, week one, you're playing
a Miami team that also has a third year head
coach and Mario Christobal and you get run out of
the building in your own building. That speaks too directly
to your program. Mike Elko, by the way, year one
(01:28:20):
at Texas A and M I know he inherited a
ton of talent from Jimbo Fisher, but Mike Elko went
on the road again. And I reference this off the top.
They hadn't won a true road game since twenty twenty
one Texas A and m They had lost ten straight
true road games. And they it wasn't even close. It
was twenty to nothing at halftime. They had a backup quarterback.
(01:28:43):
But here's the other thing that I think is that
I think is worth noting we mentioned the quarterback situation.
Is you know, I was kind of watching the game
closely knowing that we might we might be talking about this,
And first of all, I just think it's the wrong
decision to keep playing two quarterbacks. Is like, you know,
if you don't think the freshman is ready, then just
(01:29:06):
stick with Graham Mertz. If you think the freshman is ready,
I personally, I just played the freshman. He looked really
good last week. Your your job is on the line.
If he's not good enough, you're not gonna be there
next year anyway. But you played both quarterbacks, and there
was just no rhyme or reason to what you're doing.
You know, you start Mertz, you play Lagway the second series,
You go back to Mertz until you're down twenty nothing,
(01:29:28):
then you go to Lagway the final series of the
first half. Then you open the second half, Mertz leads
you on a touchdown drive, and then you go back
to Lagway. And so it's and oh, by the way, Lagway,
who of course last week threw for four touchdown passes,
only he only attempts thirteen passes today. In a game
where you're getting blown out, the whole game. So it's
like if you know, it's like if you whatever you're
(01:29:52):
gonna do, just do it with conviction. But you're not
you know, you're not sure which quarterback you want to
go to. You want to play both, Jamart, We've been
doing this a long time. Outside of ironically Florida the
year they had Chris Leek and Tim Tebow, I don't
ever remember a scenario where two quarterbacks works, And this
is just not the time to be trying to figure
(01:30:13):
it out. The way Billy Napier used a quarterback room.
It was like he was an NFL coach in Week
two of the preseason. These games count, they matter, your
job is on the line, and so it's just, you know,
I don't even know what else to say. And you know,
we'll see if all this reporting comes to fruition comes Sunday.
But it's just like, what are we doing right now?
Speaker 3 (01:30:36):
So yeah, I mean, you're right, it's I don't know
that if you had just stuck with one quarterback. Let's
let's say you played Lagway off the start and you
play him the whole way, or you play Merts the
whole way, I don't know that you're in a different situation,
but maybe you have one less question mark. At least
it's well he has you can't say, well, we can't
(01:30:58):
even decide on a quarterback, Like at least he has
decided on one. Now if they still have the same record,
then it's, well, maybe he should have started the other guy.
If they want to get him out, there's gonna be
a way to get him out. But I think just
generally there's no sign that Florida is on the up. Yeah,
everything indicates they are either completely stagnant or they are
(01:31:20):
regressing while everybody around them seems to be getting better.
And as such, you just can't continue to let that go,
like you're gonna start to lose, Like eventually people are
gonna stop coming to the games for the rest of
this year. And I think that you just this is
a situation where you just want your fan base and
you want the people that support the team and love
(01:31:41):
the team to feel like you're still invested, and continuing
to let Billy Napier go out there and be this
mediocre kind of indicates that you've taken your foot off
the gas and you just don't care this year. And
I don't think that that's just not that doesn't play
any SEC.
Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
Yeah. By the way, this is the sort of easy
part of the schedule. So oh yeah, next week you
have at Mississippi State, then you have UCF. Okay, well,
actually you have a bye, so at Mississippi State next week,
then a bye then at UCF after October twelfth, October twelfth,
(01:32:22):
and on at Tennessee, which Tennessee's playing as well as
anybody in college football right now. Kentucky. We can make
fun of Kentucky, which we did in hour one, but
guess what, Kentucky's beating them. I believe three straight years,
two straight out a billion apier. I know. Georgia not
sure if you've heard of them. They're pretty good. At Texas,
not sure if you've heard about them. They're pretty good.
(01:32:43):
LSU better than you. I don't know how good LSU
is after they struggle with South Carolina today, but they're
pretty good. And then you close with Old Miss and
then Florida State is mediocre. But it's like, you know,
this was the part of the schedule, and this was
you know, I forget everything that we talked about in
the preseason JMR, but like you had to, you know,
(01:33:05):
I think you had to win at least one of
the Miami A and M games, if not both, and
then I think beyond that, you at least had to
look good, like Miami might just be really awesome. And
if you lose to him twenty seven to twenty four,
because cam Ward is a Heisman Trophy candidate, that's one thing.
He lose forty one to seventeen, and then A and
M today, Like I said, a backup quarterback with a
(01:33:28):
team that had not won a true road game since
twenty twenty one. You take d L. Jason and you
take the Yelm.
Speaker 3 (01:33:38):
The state of Florida is kind of insane, right, Yeah,
it is positively bonkers when it comes to college football.
You talked about Miami, Yes, they may legitimately just be good.
Florida and Florida State crazy are horrible, absolutely horrible, And
it looks like Napier's going to lose this job. Norvelle,
(01:34:01):
He's not. He's got a huge buyout. And you know,
they were great last year. But at the same time,
I think three times in the last fifty years, Florida
State has lost their first three games of the year.
Two of the three belonged to Mike Norvel YEP one
in twenty twenty one and now this year, and the
(01:34:23):
problem with the three this year, I'd have to go
back and look at those. Those aren't good either. But
all right, so you come off of almost making a
college football playoff losing Jordan Travis, but of course we
knew the talent that they had and the talent that
they lost. None of the teams that they've lost to
this year, it's not like they've gone and lost to Georgia,
Ohio State, and Texas. I'm not saying they've lost to nobody.
(01:34:46):
I mean, Boston College has been better than people thought,
Georgia Tech's been better than people thought. I get all
that Memphis might be. They certainly have a shot at
potentially getting into the playoff as that top ranked, you know,
non power conference team, but those are not long. You
can't be oh win three, be Florida State and lose
to those three teams Like that's I don't know what
(01:35:09):
is worse. Like the Florida State fans have to be
just beside themselves watching this because that game today, I
understand that they tried. DJ. I hate to say this.
Speaker 2 (01:35:19):
Say it. It's the ler he's getting paid.
Speaker 3 (01:35:24):
Ulile is just not very good. He's just not. At
some point, we just have to look at this and say,
not only is he not the savior, he's not the answer.
He's he's barely a starting quarterback for a competent team.
He played better last year. But even so I hate
it because there's nothing against him personally. But you're right,
it's the nil era. Now we have to view this
(01:35:46):
a little bit differently, and this is not about him
his person it's about his play. His play is poor.
There's nothing about him that's exciting. And they're not going
to win a whole lot of games with him playing quarterback.
They're going to be under five hundred this year. And
to come into the year and so many people felt
like they were gonna repeat as champions. Now I didn't,
But at the same time, I had no idea they
(01:36:08):
were going to be this bad. None of us did.
Speaker 2 (01:36:11):
No, not at all. And first of all, you're right
on DJ, by the way, and you brought up this
point a few weeks ago with with Notre Dame, and
I think it's totally it was a good one. It's
not totally fair to say this about Florida State. But
you know, you you fall into that trap of having
a dip into the portal for a quarterback, and it's
(01:36:31):
like you're at the whims of I mean, I'm doing
this off the top of my head, So I don't
know how many great quarterbacks were out there last year.
Cam Ward for Now at Miami obviously looks awesome, but
you know, look at the best teams in college football.
Texas has Quinn Ewers and uh, you know, and and
Arch Manning. I guess Ohio. I guess Ohio State does
(01:36:51):
have Will Howard. So maybe it's more than you think.
But it's just like you're you're just at such a
you're you're just at such a mercy. And I think
Flora State specifically, they've gone so portal heavy the last
you know, since Mike Norvell took over that it's just like, dude,
they lost so much talent and they just didn't have
the talent to replace it. But at the same time,
(01:37:12):
there's just no excuse to be oh and three against
this schedule. I saw this stat By the way, Steve Fezick,
who I believe used to join Bernie Fratto in his
time frame, said that the under has hit on the
Florida State over under win total of nine and a
half on September fourteenth. So for the betters out there
(01:37:32):
that did take the under on Florida State season win total,
head over to the sportsbooking cash that ticket Florida State
is oho and three and it is ugly there by
the way, very ugly for the Florida Gators. Again for
people just joining us on three is reporting that there
is a Board of Trustees meeting that has been called
for Sunday morning, So we'll see what that means. Fox
(01:37:54):
Sports Radio Air towards Jason Martin broadcasting live from the
tire Raq dot com studios, will come back. We will
start to look back at the NFL and look ahead
to the full Week two slate. There's some fascinating games,
starting with the one at Arrowhead. We're going to discuss
that next. This is Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back, everybody.
(01:38:16):
Fox Sports Radio aeron Torschase Martin broadcasting live from the
tyreck dot com studios, taking you up till two a m.
Eastern time. Bernie Fratto of the Bernie Fredders Show follows
us well. That said, we are officially on the East coast,
and of course in the Central time zone as well.
We are in the midst of another NFL Sunday, So
(01:38:38):
with that, right around this time, we always start previewing
a couple of the big games. Mary, give us a
little music, Ian, I think I know where we're going
to start. But first game that we're previewing right now, we.
Speaker 6 (01:38:51):
Are starting with Kansas City Cincinnati. So the Chiefs are
favored by six points and it's going to be at Arrowhead.
Speaker 2 (01:39:00):
What do you guys think, jam are you on to start?
Speaker 3 (01:39:04):
Well, I just feel like there's a lot of there's
just a lot of drama around Cincinnati. This seems to
be a bad time for them to be matching up
with Kansas City. I'm definitely not as down on them
as some as we talked about earlier. But I've also
told you, and I told you before the year that
I had the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl and being
that threepeat, doing the thing that isn't supposed to be doable.
(01:39:25):
I don't see any change there. Like I I do
not see this Bengals team right now going into Arrowhead
and being that team. I just don't.
Speaker 2 (01:39:32):
Yeah, I'm sort of with you, Listen. I wanted to
like the Bengals in the preseason just to kind of
do something different, have an alternative take. But you know,
there was a lot of just you know, noise in
the offseason, and you know, I don't blame Jamar Chase
for wanting a new contract, but you know, he was
kind of in and out of training camp. Now we're
hearing that, you know, he's not going to deal with
(01:39:54):
the contract during the season. Burrow's obviously coming off the
major injury. He doesn't look good. And listen, we all
watched that Thursday night game against the Ravens. We can
say it was twenty seven to twenty. We could say that,
you know, we were a whisker away from potentially the
Ravens going for two with a chance to win that game.
But Kansas City largely controlled that game, so they got
(01:40:15):
a couple extra days. They are coming off of a
very nice win, even though it was quote unquote only
a touchdown. The six does feel sort of like a lot.
But I'm gonna take the Kansas City Chiefs to win
as well, and I'm probably to cover, just because I
was obviously very underwhelmed by the Cincinnati Bengals, but also
because I just think that I just think the Chiefs
(01:40:38):
really are operating at a high level. You know what's
the next game?
Speaker 6 (01:40:41):
We got next game, we got New Orleans Saints versus
the Dallas Cowboys. It's in Arlington. Obviously, Derek Carr is
coming off that big performance. What do you guys think
Dallas is favored by six?
Speaker 3 (01:40:53):
It's tough, Aaron, because the Saints looked awesome, but their
opponents are terrible. Like, I don't know how much you
take from that. I mean, it was so dominant, but
it was also so obvious that Carolina is just I
don't even know what to say. I tend to think
Derek Carr and that offense traveling to Dallas. I like
(01:41:15):
the Cowboys, but they are both indoor teams, so they
have guys that are, you know, familiar with the environments
no matter what. So maybe that lowers the road ws
a little bit. I still think Dallas. Dallas impressed me
a lot against Cleveland's defense. I think they can do
maybe not quite as much, but similar things against the Saints.
Speaker 2 (01:41:34):
Yeah. Well, I'll tell you a little bit at stake
in this one for Torres, because you know, one of
my big hot takes was that the Saints were gonna
be the worst team in the league. Derek Carr was
gonna ben Spencer Ratler was going to be your quarterback
by the end of the year. Didn't look you know
that that take. We'll see how that ages. But obviously,
after one game Derek Carr takes care of business. The
Saints look really good. But obviously, you know, I didn't
(01:41:56):
think very much of them coming in, so I don't
think very much of them at this point. Dallas is
just interesting, right, I mean, listen, Dak's obviously always pretty
good during the regular season. At one point last year
we thought he, you know, was playing at an MVP level.
But Dallas always just has these weeks where when you
want to believe in them, they let you down. So
(01:42:17):
you know, this is one I would not bet if
I was a better if I was in Vegas sitting
in a sportsbook, It's hard for me to think that
Dallas does not win this game. Tell you what, Jmart
will come back and we will look at these Sunday
and Monday night games in what should be a very
interesting week two. Before we do, though, final time, this evening,
let's toss it to the news desk Steve Disager what
(01:42:38):
is turning on?
Speaker 5 (01:42:38):
Well, let's start with college football. Is Number one Georgia
one again, but it was thirteen to twelve at Kentucky.
The Bulldogs have won forty two straight games in the
regular season. Quarterback injury for Number two Texas. They got
a home win fifty six to seven over UT San Antonio,
but starting QB Quinn, you were as left with what
was called by his coach afterwards, say strained abdomen and
(01:43:00):
then oblique strained. He mentioned both. Arch Manning off the
bench five total touchdowns, including a sixty seven yard run,
longest run by a Texas quarterback since Vince Young twenty
years ago. Arch Manning nine of twelve passing for two

the fourth inning and one at Minnesota eleven to one.
Baltimore won while the Yankees lost. So the Yanks lead
over the Orioles in the Al East down to two games.
(01:47:24):
And in late night college football, by the way, we
still got almost three minutes to go. Fresno State at
home leads forty eight nothing over New Mexico State, and
they've just started the fourth quarter. At Cal It's the
Golden Bears twenty four to three over San Diego State.
Speaker 2 (01:47:36):
Back to you, thank you very much. Steve to Sega,
have a great evening. Saga will be back tomorrow. We'll
see if I already span your shows up for work
after last night's debacle. But Fox Sports Radio er tours
Jason Martin broadcasting live from the tyrack dot Com Studios.
Jmart let's stay with the NFL look ahead. Week two
is here. One game is in the books, fifteen more
(01:47:58):
to go. Ian, what's the next game? We're looking at?
Speaker 6 (01:48:00):
Battle of former top three pick quarterbacks, Chicago Bears versus
Houston Texans. The spread is Houston minus six and a half.
What do you think, j Mart?
Speaker 2 (01:48:12):
You are You live in Nashville, so you were probably
you know, we were all watching the Caleb Williams experience,
but you were probably even watching a little bit closer
than us. What'd you make of Caleb in week one?
Speaker 3 (01:48:21):
Definitely looked like a rookie, you know, since he's got
a few They've got some defensive players that can can
make you earn it. But Houston does too. He's gonna
need to play a lot better than that. It definitely
wasn't It wasn't great for any of the rookies. It
really wasn't, but very inauspicious start for Caleb Williams, and
I mean, I think the Texans, even though they didn't
(01:48:41):
look great great in Week one either, I still think
the Texans are a contender in the AFC. So this
is a step. He's going to need to play a
couple of steps better than he did last week. I'm
not sure this is gonna be the week. I really don't.
I don't love their chances. I like Houston pretty big
in this game.
Speaker 2 (01:49:00):
Yeah I do too, you know, listen. I know the
final score was pretty close last week against Indianapolis, but
you know, you go on the road divisional game, they
know you well, you get the win, Listen. You know,
I'm just really impressed by kind of Houston continuing to
do what they do. You know, listen, I know people
want to you want to bail on the Bears after
(01:49:22):
one game because of the way Caleb looked. I get it.
It's the nature of what we do. I'm not bailing
on him, but I think it's a tough spot on
the road. You know, Dome Stadium, it's gonna be loud.
I find it hard to imagine the world where Caleb
Williams and the Bears go into Houston and get the victory.
Speaker 3 (01:49:40):
I like, I mean, I would just just add to
that quickly. I would just say I, I'm definitely buying
all the Caleb Williams stock. I'm just not buying it
this weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:49:49):
Totally fair, all right?
Speaker 6 (01:49:51):
Next up Atlanta Falcons versus Philadelphia Eagles. So the Falcons
are going to Philly to play, and the Eagles are
favored by six.
Speaker 2 (01:49:59):
What do we think men.
Speaker 3 (01:50:02):
Like Falcons at all? In Week one? Aaron I didn't
think their offense looked good whatsoever. Cousins struggled, but there
was just no cohesion to what they were trying to
do when they had the football. Philadelphia seem pretty good
now if they don't have aj Brown. That's a significant change.
But Kellen Moore called a really nice game against Green Bay.
I think that is a massive upgrade for the Eagles.
(01:50:26):
It's taken a little bit of pressure off of Siriani.
I still think Hurts can play even better, certainly than
he did to open this season. But you're telling me
that that Atlanta team is going to go onto the
road into Philadelphia and beat them, considering the way their
offense looked last week. I'll take I'll take Philly in
the points all day.
Speaker 2 (01:50:43):
First off sort of a pseudo buy for Philly. I mean,
you go from a Friday night game two weeks ago
to now you don't play again until Monday, so that's
obviously advantage them. But I'm with you on Kirk Cousins.
You know, listen, I'll be honest. Thought it was wildly
soft of him in the offseason, was whining about drafting
Michael Pennix. You know, we got a chance.
Speaker 3 (01:51:04):
To do this.
Speaker 2 (01:51:05):
We got dude, you're making fifty million dollars a year.
Shut up. We don't want to hear it. No, you know,
to quote Lamar Jackson, nobody cares work harder, shut up.
And so to come out and have that performance at
home against obviously Justin Fields, who wasn't even practicing with
the ones for most of training camp, I just thought
it was embarrassed. And I've been lower on the Falcons
than most. I think most people had them winning the division.
(01:51:27):
I did not see it. And listen, you know, I mean,
if we're gonna have the conversation about Aaron Rodgers, we
got to have it about Kirk Cousins as well. You know,
Aaron Rodgers is forty, but Kirk cousins Is is just
turned thirty six, not exactly the ideal age to be
coming off an achilles injury. So we'll see. I'm not
a buyer, you know first, you know, first year head coach,
(01:51:50):
that wasn't very good the first time. I'm just not
sold on this team at all. So Philly, you know,
not only being at home, but also again essentially having
a buy I'll go ahead and take Philly to win.
Ian give us one more. We'll be quick on it,
all right, Next up Niners Vikings. Oh yeah, your Sam Donald?
Where's your Sam Donald stock? Are you? Are you loading
(01:52:11):
up or what's the deal?
Speaker 3 (01:52:12):
No, you can do that against the Giants, especially in
those uniforms. But you can definitely do that. By the way,
a lot of people hate it on those uniforms. I
actually sort of liked them. Yeah, I don't know why
they something about it worked for me, but the team
didn't work for it.
Speaker 2 (01:52:27):
Took away team players in the field, which helped.
Speaker 3 (01:52:29):
So yeah, they let the team looked absolutely awful. But no,
I do not I do not relish Sam Donald's chances
against the Niners, against that defense. I think they'll eat
him for lunch and look, Jordan Mason looked the part.
You're not gonna have Christian McCaffrey. He's on IR for
a month at least, and that'd be a problem, except
that Mason looked really, really good and perty played pretty
(01:52:53):
solid in his Week one. This is that was a
better team that they beat this past week. Then they're
gonna play this week. I like San Francisco all the
way in this game.
Speaker 2 (01:53:03):
Yeah, I do too. Here's the other factor too, I mean,
where was Sam Donald last year San Francisco. You know,
you'd say, oh, it's advantage him, he knows that team.
But it's like I feel like Shanahan knows his strengths
and weaknesses, is whatever, And I just think it's an aberration.
We know who he is at this point in his career,
you know, And I'm just sorry. I just I don't
(01:53:23):
believe that he's some sort of difference maker in year seven,
year eight, team four, team five, whatever it is. Give
me San Francisco to also addison, right, yes, yes, yes, yes,
yes yes. So that didn't help their cause at all.
Doesn't help their cause. I don't see this as some
sort of you know, uh whatever, wish him luck, don't
(01:53:44):
buy that Sam Donald is some crazy reclamation project. All right,
j mart We will come back wrap the show a
couple of topics we have not gotten to yet. That's
next Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio
towards Jason Martin, broadcasting live from the Tireac dot Com studios.
(01:54:06):
UH one segment left. Should mention, by the way before
we get out of here. Shortly after the show, our
podcast will be going up. If you missed any of
today's show, be sure to check out the podcast. Just
search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts, and
also be sure to follow, rate and review again. Just
search Fox Sports Ready wherever you get your podcasts, and
you'll see this show posted right after we get off air,
(01:54:29):
and it's gonna be a heck of a podcast. We
spend a lot of Hour one talking about the wild
finish in Lexington, Kentucky. Georgia wins by one after Kentucky
decides to punt the ball inside their own fifty with
three minutes to go. They don't get the ball back
until there's ten seconds left. Georgia survives. We also talked
(01:54:50):
a little bit about the arch manning appearance Quinn. Viewers
is out, arch Manning comes in with five touchdowns. And
we've talked a lot of NFL as well, j Mart,
you know, we covered pretty much everything. Let me just
ask you this. We are now through three weeks of
college football, that is a quarter of the regular season.
Who do you think is the best team in.
Speaker 3 (01:55:11):
The country in college football right now? I mean, I
still I'm sticking right now with my national champion in preseason.
I think Texas is the best team in the country
right now. I think you could argue that there are
some times that look dominant, but I just what I
saw Texas do last week in particular, and the fact
(01:55:33):
that you actually are too deep at quarterback, and I
mean too deep, like legit, too deep if you have
to be. I think that is significant to me. So
I feel really good about Texas right now.
Speaker 2 (01:55:45):
Texas would actually be my pick as well, you know.
I you know, I think a lot of people, you know,
thought it was a little reactionary to the moment last week.
Oh you're not giving Georgia credit for week one. It's like, no,
they dominated Michigan. They dominated Michigan last week, convincing when
as you said, because I think that's huge. By the way,
because you know, you look at some of these other schools.
(01:56:07):
I mean, think about Georgia, I mean the you know
they could have had it, could have had Dylan Ryola,
who's balling at Nebraska. Nebraska won again today to go
to three and zero. You know, Brock Vandergrift, the starter
Kentucky was there last year, so you know, you startles.
So we're not ruining for injuries. But something happens there,
it gets a little bit weird. You know, a lot
(01:56:27):
of other places gets weird. So I'm with you. I
think Texas is the team that has looked the best
to me. Only bummer about Texas is in this expanded
SEC schedule really doesn't ramp up until the middle of October.
Texas does not play again until until well they excuse me.
They don't play a Marque opponent until the Red River
(01:56:50):
game against Oklahoma. They play ul Monroe at home next week,
Mississippi State at home the final weekend of September, and
they get a bye the first week of October. By
the way, I know, we don't want to overreact to stuff,
but Tennessee winning seventy one to nothing today, by the way,
won fifty one to ten last week, sixty nine to
(01:57:12):
three in week one. So I don't have the stats
in front of me. I don't think there's anywhere that
all the stats are updated. Have to imagine they're leading
the country and scoring. You know, I don't know if
I can sit here and definitively say that right now.
They are the biggest threat to Texas in this league
because Georgia I still think is good even though they
struggle today. But Tennessee man looking really really really good.
Speaker 3 (01:57:33):
Yeah. I mean I had them eleventh in my twelve
and it may actually be too low. We'll see. I mean,
they're going to be challenged. They I don't know the
DNC State is that good. I mean they had to
come back to win last night as well, so they've
they've struggled in all three of their games. But Tennessee
is just absolutely they're not beating people. They're demoralizing teams
(01:57:55):
like I mean, they're just leaving them in piles on
the field basically what they're doing to them offensively, and
that's not gonna change. I mean, that's Hypelsmo and they're
going to continue to score a ton of points and
you're gonna have to play shootouts to beat them. But
here's the problem. They also seem like they've got a defense.
And if they've got a defense and they can score
like that, the sky's the limit. Quite frankly, they can
(01:58:18):
beat anybody on their schedule. Now, again, it's gonna get
more complicated for them real quick. But there's nothing more
that they could have done to be impressive at this
stage in the season than we've seen them accomplish like
they've been. They've been every bit as good as probably
they thought they were behind closed doors. They've been better
(01:58:38):
than just about anybody else would have seen them being
even I mean I had them beating NC State, I'd
have them beating them fifty one to ten, like that's
just insanity. And again, they could have scored one hundred
tonight if they had wanted to. So I definitely am
you should probably keep your eye on them if they're
on your schedule, because they're gonna score a ton of
points and you're gonna have to out you're gonna have
to beat them when it comes down to that. So
(01:59:01):
I definitely like what they're doing. What is it next week?
I think Oklahoma, Baby, that's going to be I don't
honestly like Oklahoma's chances. I haven't been particularly blown away
by what Oklahoma has done to this season. They could
have lost to Houston and Tulane gave them all they
wanted to.
Speaker 2 (01:59:18):
Yes, Oklahoma today survives against Tulane. And yeah, Tennessee has
looked awesome by the way held twu Lane or held
ten Tennessee held last weekends, he stayed under one hundred
and fifty yards of total offense. Ten seconds on this, Jamart,
maybe a little bit more than ten seconds. Colorado dominating
Colorado State. We basically said last week Colorado needed to
(01:59:39):
give us a reason to talk about them after getting
embarrassed by Nebraska last week. Does Colorado State Colorado winning
twenty eight to nine in a game that really wasn't
even as close as that final score indicated, does that
do anything for you, Jamart?
Speaker 3 (01:59:53):
No, I mean, Shudor looked really good, and that's a
team that you should beat if you're Colorado. So good
on them. Talk to you in a month if you've
won some other games.
Speaker 2 (02:00:02):
Tell you what we gotta get out of here. I
want to thank the crew, Mary Mack on the board,
Ian producing Steve Disager from my partner Jason Martin. I'm heritors.
Make sure to download the podcast wherever you get podcasts.
Coming up next Bernie Fratto of The Bernie Fratto Show.
He's gonna have so much on the NFL, slate college
football more. This is Fox Sports.
Speaker 3 (02:00:22):
Are you
