You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
All right, the talk, the talk is coming right up.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
He is.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Open up the door and let him in, Bucky Brooks,
How you doing, Bucky Man?
Speaker 4 (00:34):
I'm good. What's going on? Hanny?
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Well, you know it's funny because I want to get
into something somewhat heavy, a little heavier than there's games itself.
But I gotta let, you know, get this off my chest.
I certainly am the kiss of death because last week
I mentioned two things and they and they backfired on me.
I said that Oli Gordon and he still may very
well be the best running back in America. Oklahoma State,
you know, seventeen carries for forty one yards yesterday or
(00:58):
the Oklahoma State won big. And then I said, like
Notre Dame would never win with that quarterback Riley Leonard,
and they roll over Purdue sixty sixty seven. So again,
the kiss of death is right here. You're hearing him
right now. It's amazing, it really is.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
I mean, but let's look at I mean, let's look
at your opponents.
Speaker 5 (01:15):
I mean, Notre Dame play Perdue. It was a bounce
back game for them after losing. I mean, I would
say an epic, maybe even historic upset to Northern Illinois.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
You did it. We're going to bounce back.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
So I'm not as surprised that the fight Iris came
back and played the way that they played, regardless of
who was playing quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
I don't think what you're saying. You're right, And look,
we still have a long season to go. We can
see what's going to happen down the road. But this
bigger fish to fry. And I want to run this
by it because I think it's important to talk about this.
You know, I read Mike Freeman. Mike Freeman's an African
American columnist. I believe Mike Freeman is the best sports
writer in America period. End of the story.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
If you don't.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Believe me, pick up a copy of US Today and
read him. He's a buddy of mine, and I just
think he's great. He really is. Okay, he wrought about
the Tyreek Hill thing the other day, and he says
it's called the talk, you know, with a African American
athletes and people in general. He says, the talk saves
black lives, and I want to share this with you
and everybody else. He says, many Black Americans have gotten
(02:10):
the talk. It comes from parents, it comes from siblings,
it comes from friends. He says. This is Mike Freeman saying.
When I was stopped by police a few years ago,
the talk rang in my head like a bell. A
police officer started following me and did so for about
five minutes. Knowing I was going to get stopped, I
got my documents out of my compartment, already neatly stacked together,
and put them in a passenger's seat, flashing lights. Cop
(02:32):
said my inspection sticker had expired. It had it was
the pandemic. I was barely leaving my house a little
one getting my car inspected. The officer understood and told
me to get it done soon. But before she spoke,
I had rolled down my window put my hands on
the wheel to show I wasn't a threat. I told
the officer, I'm unarmed. There are no weapons in the car.
My mom had taught me all these things years before
(02:56):
the talk. It was in my head during every moment
of the encounter. Okay, perhaps these are the rules for
blackamarons said, but it's said, it's the talk, and maybe
it's the training. But with Tyreek Hill, maybe maybe Buck,
maybe Tyreek Hill forgot to talk, maybe he never got
to talk. Because I will say this, the talk does
(03:16):
not guarantee safety. There have been instances of black drivers
cooperating and police still being very aggressive. Okay, so we'll
see that. There is research that shows that black drivers
are more likely to be stopped by police than their
white peers. All right, so that means maybe more things
and more chances for things to go wrong. And they
certainly went wrong for Tyreek Hill. It was ugly, it
(03:38):
was disgusting, and it took away from the game itself,
although he did have an adr touchdown deal on Sunday.
I want to run this by you and tell me
have you heard about the talk? Have you gotten the
talk from your parents and your buddies that you talk with.
Do they talk about things like this.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
Yes to all of them. So yes, I got to
talk very early when I was young.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
I was a teenager.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
I was taught when you stop by the cops, make
sure you put your hands at ten and two. I
was taught to make sure that my glovebox did not
have a lot of stuff in it, because you don't
want to be fiddling around to make any cop nervous,
like you may have something in the glovebox. I was
taught to like when cell phones came on. Sometimes I
(04:23):
would get stopped. I would call my pops in the
middle of the encounter.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
So he could hear everything, just in case.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
I was taught to make sure that I answered yes
sir and no sir to the cops questions. I was
taught to make sure that even if I'm in the wrong,
my only job is to get home safe. So if
I am right or whatever, my job is not to
argue it there.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
We'll take care of it in court.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
So yes, I have had to talk, and in fact,
I've given to talk to my son and daughter, and
with my son and particularly because he thought it was crazy,
I told him to put his registration and information up
high near the visor, so where you have the visor
that you flip down if the sun is out. He
puts it up high so he never has to reach down.
(05:10):
He reaches up so the cops can always see his hands.
And it's one of the things that you tell your
kids because you do get scary, even as a fifty
plus year old man, whenever you see the blue lights
behind you. There is an anxiety that overcomes you when
you get stopped because you are thinking about, man, the
(05:32):
only thing I want to do is get to the house.
So whatever it is, I'll take the ticket or whatever.
And so you roll down the window, you say the
minimum amount of conversation that you have to have, and
you let the cop do his thing.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
It's amazing, it's saying it really is just justious to it.
And to be clear on this now, with the Tyreek
Hill situation, none of the whole situation here was his
full because there are plenty of non black drivers mouthing
off the cops and they don't get tossed to the ground,
they don't get handcuffed. Okay, so when I saw that,
I got sick, I got sick to my stomach. Don't
roll down their windows, these non black drivers. Maybe they
(06:07):
refuse to comply. But even if they do, they're not
getting handcuffed, they're not getting tossted at a ground. The talk,
as you mentioned, it's just a tool. It's based on love.
You love your kids. You don't want to see any
harm done to them. It's done for protection, it's done
for love, it's done for safety, and it's crazy. But
I will say this, Tyreek Hill did not deserve to
be treated like that. Yes he had the window up,
(06:28):
Yes he was speeding, and yes he was driving with
our license. And it happens almost every day and no
one gets handcuffed and no one gets tossed at the
ground for that. It's unbelievable. We're going to see what
happens right now. And I don't think there was enough.
I mean, I don't think there was enough talk about
that situation because maybe it was game day. I don't
know why it happened. He went on and played and
(06:48):
it was like over, it was all over. I mean,
no one said anything. I mean it was great that
the moment. Well he did and teammates were there too.
Speaker 5 (06:56):
Yeah, he went on a handful of shows and the
teammates did show up. And here's what I would say,
because Tyreek did admit to someone talking about he could
have handled the interaction better, and we won't victim Blaine
because I felt like, look, the cop was hyper aggressive,
but Tyreek Hill certainly could have made it easier on himself,
you know what I'm saying, like in terms of being complicit,
(07:18):
and so the fear that you always have when you
have a son or daughter that gets stopped, you just
want them and man, just be cool, answer the questions,
provide the information, and go on about your way. With
Tyreek Hill, it became very testy and confrontational from the jump.
Whether it's and I understand, like he's a star. He's
driving like a two hundred thousand dollars car, so everyone
(07:41):
knows that there's someone famous in the car.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
In those things, and.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
I was stolen, I mean some of that too, But
also I understand him understanding, like wanted to keep the
window up to kind of retain a level of anonymity
when it comes to the interaction. I just think that
he also could have could have been better, even though
he's not at fault, he could have been better to
try and defuse the situation. So everyone should approach it
(08:07):
with the level of they let's defuse it. Let's just
have the interaction and go about it as opposed to
it becoming the confrontation that it became. And then with
the teammates, I understand the teammates being concerned in those things,
and so, like you do, want to look out for
your teammate, because the fear that those guys had is
the fear that comes from the talk that your parents
(08:30):
your grandparents give you. And so that's why they showed
up on the scene and wanted to make sure. But
it's one of those things where you just hope that
cooler heads always.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
Prevail in those situations.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
And luckily for Tyreq and for the cop, it didn't
go along with further incident.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Well, I will tell you this much. These cops were
certainly one thousand percent wrong in their decision to use
successive force to an unarmed man, in particular unarmed black man. Okay,
they were wrong, noe doubt about that. And it got
to make you wonder if some of these cops just
love to have this ego or this power over somebody.
(09:03):
And I won't tell you this much. You know, you know,
when I was in high school and I went to
high school in Brooklyn, New York. It seemed to me
that all the hoods and the tough guys and the
bullies in the class, they all ended up being cops.
I don't know why, but they did all right. When
I came back to Brooklyn, I saw them years ago,
they all were cops. I never thought these guys could
could graduate high school. These are the guys that cheated
(09:25):
off me on tests. Okay, these are the hoods that
were in high school, and they're the guys that were
they became bullies and now they're bullies and they're showing
their strength of power. And I don't want to broad
brush everybody, but there was a good section of them
in my high school and they became cops. And these
are the guys that are doing it, and it's wrong
and it makes me sick. And it's got to stop.
I mean it, really, it has to stop. And I
don't know how or why, but I would like to
(09:48):
see these guys get thrown off the force. I really
would get him out, get him out of there. They
don't deserve to be a cop. You don't deserve to
wear the shield.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
You just don't.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
Yeah, no, I mean, look, I won't paint him in
rod Brush, and it only takes a few bad apples
to kind of mess up the bunch. But I will say,
and this has nothing to do with those interactions and
those things I said, there used to be a time
where cops were more involved in the community, where they
were the ones who were coaching your sports teams. We've
heard about all the police athletic leagues, even though in
North Carolina, I didn't grow up in a league like that,
(10:20):
but we've seen cops come through and volunteer their time
and they were more engaged with the community. And so,
you know, I think it takes a village, and I
think we are at a point where we do have
so many things that are divisive within the country that
it does take everyone looking out for everybody's kids and
everyone trying to support everybody as best they can. And
(10:42):
I won't say that all issues stem from racism or
race based issues. I just think it's i'll say a
humanity issue, like just in terms of being empathetic and
sympathetic to the plights of others, just making sure you're
trying to make the people around you better and whatever
walk of life that you engage, you're trying to make
everybody better. If everyone does that, then you want to
(11:02):
have as many incidents and those things that kind of
take place and kind of put a cloud over the society.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Well said, God bless you, Bucket Brooks. You're one hundred
percent correct. You're one thousand percent correct. Now the total
little bit of football right now, because I'm watching the
Kentucky game last night, and all of a sudden, in
my heart, of heart, my chest, I'm starting to root
for Kentucky to beat Georgia. I don't know why. I'm
not a big Kentucky wildcott fan of dude live in Kentucky,
but the fact that they could beat or knock off
the number one team. But after losing to South Carolina
(11:29):
or a week ago, how do they put How does
Kentucky put Georgia and take them to the wire and
lose thirteen twelve? How does that happen? How do these
things happen? I mean, I don't understand how people could
even bet on a college football game after what Notre
Dame did last week, losing to Northern Illinois and come
back and rolling over Purdue, and all of a sudden,
Kentucky losing to South Carolina, and I taking Georgia to
(11:49):
the wall yesterday. How does that happen? I don't get.
Is it coaching? I don't understand.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
I mean, look, I think a few different things happen.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
One, you deal with eighteen to twenty two new years,
who are emotions and things that are focused are going
to be up and down every week. So it's hard
to keep them locked in and engaged, particularly on twelve
to thirteen Saturdays throughout the fall. It's hard to always
guarantee that they're going to bring their best effort.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
Too. The SEC is hard, very competitive.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
You have good teams where I can say this, the
transfer portal has leveled the playing field in some regards. Yeah,
the top of the top, they get the best players,
but a lot of good players are going elsewhere because
they want playing time opportunities. That makes it really hard
to predict who's who and what's what when it comes
to playing. And let's find this like Kentucky's been a
(12:36):
really good program the last few years. They were disappointed
by their effort Versus South Carolina. Sometimes those are the
most dangerous teams to play because they are motivated, they're determined.
The coach has the player's ear more because they lost,
and so they were embarrassed and they're more likely to
listen to what he has to say. So I'm not
(12:56):
necessarily surprised that they came back with a much better
effort than they had the pre This week.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
I will tell you who the magic man in college
football is. There's no doubt in my mind your friend
Deon Sanders, because they played Colorado played Colorado State yesterday
and basically on the schedule you look at it, both
teams not ranked, but it was must see TV. You
had to watch the game because you knew it was
a battle and all of a sudden, the way they
promoted on TV, this is for real, we want to
(13:22):
get him. It's a rematch. It's a nasty game, and
Colorado rolled over him twenty eight to six. And the quarterback,
Shader Sanders, I mean, he went nuts yesterday. He threw
for three hundred and ten yards and four touchdowns. But
it was one of those games that it was must
see TV. I mean really, in the scheme of things,
it didn't mean anything, but you just want to see
what Colorado was doing, and that's what he has done
(13:43):
for the program. You need to watch Colorado play because
of Deon Sanders.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
Yeah, you know you need to pay attention to him. Yeah,
they did play well. They bounced back. The quarterback is legit. Like,
here's the thing that sometimes is frustrating watching Colorado and
even watching Shader Sanders. I would say more so from
a scouting standpoint. First one, they have two really talented players,
two players at a rank at the top of the
charts when it comes to ranking all the players when
(14:11):
they declare, if they declare for the draft this season,
Suder Sanders can play. He can play at a high level.
He has outstanding talent when it comes to being able
to throw the ball. The thing that frustrates you sometimes
when you're looking at shr Duer is all the other
stuff that kind of comes with it, right, the theatrics,
the frustration that sometimes spills into him seemingly throwing.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
His teammates under the bus.
Speaker 5 (14:37):
But when you watch him on tape, there's no denying
that he's a top level passer. And then he has
the kind of talent that should be rewarded by playing
on Sundays and potentially being an elite player at the
next level. It's just a matter of the entire package.
Can the package be presented in a way that you
love the package and know that you bring him in
(14:57):
the locker room, he's going to be your franchise quarterback
that you really willing to kind of hand your hopes to.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
All right, let me talk about my good friend Brian Kelly,
who when he coaches Cincinnati, he dumped them. He went
to note to Dame. Now he's at LSU, and I
wonder if he's having second thoughts in the evening after
a game, say, why did I do this? He was
losing seventeen nothing. Yes day of South Carolina came back
to me in thirty six thirty three, and they were
lucky to do that because the South Carolina kicker, Alex Herrera,
(15:23):
he had a free non field goal. He just kind
of hit it to the left and he missed it
as time ran out, could have tied the game. Number one,
I asked you a question, have you ever been on
a team where a field goal was missed? How is
that field goal kicker treated in school? That week was
after he missed that field goal attempt Alex Herrera did.
I was wondering what kind of hate mail he's going
(15:45):
to get, kind of death threats and whatever. I mean,
that's the society we live in today. Have you ever
seen anything like that? Because you got these stories about that.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
Look, I don't have any stories, but I do know
during my time in Buffalo, I went to the Buffalo
bill right after their fourth Super Bowl run.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Even though they didn't win any it.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
Was still kind of a dynastic situation in terms of
their level of dominance. The one thing that stood out
to me was, you know, Scott Norwood, like he happened
to miss the field goal.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
I just called it the Whitney Houston super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
It was wide right, and he just talked about how, Look,
it took a long time for him to recover from that.
But I think on the team, the team is always
forgiven because the team knows that there are a lot
of mistakes that lead up to that and that that
one kick is not the sole reason why you win
or lose. But they're on the main stage and so
the kicker has to deal with it. And that's why
(16:38):
when you're dealing with kickers and picking kickers and bringing
them on board, man, their mental toughness has to be
at another level because the pressure that's on them to
perform each and every time they step out there is
different in some other positions.
Speaker 4 (16:51):
So yeah, it's a tough it's a tough deal.
Speaker 5 (16:55):
It's one where you certainly hope that they make the
kids they're supposed to make, but you hope they also
have enough to bounce back when it doesn't necessarily go
their way.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
You know, I thought about this, and I really was
waiting to share it with you. When I see schools
like Florida Florida State struggling LSU and the fact they're
somewhat struggling as well, I think coaches have a cop
out nowadays, and the cop out is, well, I'm doing
the best I can, but I don't have enough money
to get into the portal. I can't pay these plays.
(17:26):
It's not the excuse right now. In years past, it
was like, you know, you get a recruit and maybe
you picked the wrong kid. Maybe he's not the right guy,
maybe he's not playing well. So it's on you, coach,
It's on you because you didn't scout wise, you didn't
do the right scouting out there. But now you have
an excuse. Hey, alums, you haven't helped me out. I
don't have enough money to buy a player. There's the
(17:46):
excuse right now, is that what's happening in college football.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
No, I think you just have to be an even
better coach because now what you have to do is
instead of building your program with young players and having time,
you got to be able to throw it together really quickly,
and so it requires a different skill set then maybe
what it did when it came to being a program builder. See,
a program builder is able to take young players, developed them,
(18:13):
nurture them, and what happens in year one is completely
different in.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
Year three and four.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
And it's just one of those situations where you have
to just be patient. Now with Billy Naper and Mike
Norville who last year lived in the portal and was
successful using the portal, it's about getting everyone on the
same page. And it's a bit of a chemistry experiment
because no one is necessarily in it for the long term,
(18:40):
so you're having to learn how to do it on
the fly.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
I hear what you're saying. Now, what about Alabama? Last
week they were playing South Florida and it was like
a tug of war, And yesterday they go to Wisconsin,
of all places, Camp Randall, really and they roll over
them forty two to ten. I mean, I don't figure
I can't figure any of this stuff out, but maybe
it'll take place in weeks to come, because maybe maybe kids,
(19:04):
just as you say, as an eighteen year old kid,
you're not getting up as much for a school like
South Florida as you would for a school like Wisconsin.
Maybe that's it. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (19:14):
I don't know if it's necessarily getting up. I think
it comes down to playing and execution. But yes, as
an eighteen year old kid eighteen to twenty two, yeah,
your emotions do fluctuate. Games are bigger, games have more significance,
and you're more likely to bring a different level of
focus and energy to those games.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
And that's what we saw.
Speaker 5 (19:32):
You know, like Alabama is really good Kaitlyn de boor
really good coach, and he's settling in really really well
as the successor the Nick Saban.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
And you know what, though, you say to yourself, Nick
Saban got a going and all the guy do Bor's
got to do is keep it rolling. That's all he's
got to do. Not that easy, because I remember when
Shula's kid coached Alabama didn't do well, you know, I
remember remember when Don Shula's so called with Mike Shula
didn't get the job done. Yeah, he didn't get a
job done. I mean I don't know why. I mean,
everything is there for you on a silver plotter, I
(20:02):
just couldn't get it done. I mean, was the coaching
or recruiting. I mean, I would think it's fairly easy
to recruit a kid to Alabama. I would think, maybe
I'm wrong.
Speaker 5 (20:11):
I mean it's Tuscaloosa. I mean you can get people there.
They have a story tradition, but there's a lot of
press that comes along with that, you know, and the
tradition that they've normally had.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
It just requires it.
Speaker 5 (20:23):
Look, it requires a special player to want to play
there and kind of deal with all of that other stuff.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
So not as easy as we would think.
Speaker 5 (20:30):
But it's one of those situations where you certainly hope
that the people embrace the opportunity and find a way
to play really, really well at a place that has
really traditionally been a power.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Yeah, and last, but not least, let's talk about this
Texas situation. It was like a story book. It's likely
going to make a movie out of this. With Arch
Manning coming in and he's scored touchdowns, have two was
for three plays against UTSA University of Texas, San Antonio,
Texas rolls over how UTSA fifty sixty seven. So arch
Manning's right there. So what's going to happen now to
quinn Ewers? Is he gone? I mean, is how bad?
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Is he?
Speaker 2 (21:02):
Dominant injury?
Speaker 6 (21:04):
No?
Speaker 5 (21:04):
I mean, nothing happens. I think if you Texas, you're
in a right spot. I think what it does is
it kind of validates your belief that you have a
quarterback in waiting that can continue to maintain the standards
of the program.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
That's how it should be. That's how you want it
to be.
Speaker 5 (21:17):
You always want it to be a situation where you
have the next guy in the hopper ready to go,
and Texas certainly appears to have that ready to go.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
I'll tell you what, though, some of these NFL teams
need to have a quarterback ready to go. We're gonna
get into that today as well. All Right, he's Bucky Brooks.
Get him on Twitter, get him on ex whatever you
want to call it. At Bucky Brooks, at Andy Furman
FSR hour number three. We'll have to swollen Dome himself.
Mike Carmin will join us. You get him at Swollen Dome. Well,
Betty yet eight seven seven ninety nine our Fox, that's
our phone number, eight seven seven nine ninety six sixty
(21:50):
three sixty nine. We got to ask Bucky in this
our bottom barrel betting an hour number two, and of
course the man himself, Mike Harmon joins us an hour
number three. Well will he get more work today? That's
the question, and that's next.
Speaker 7 (22:02):
Please don't listen to Fox Sports Radio radio, Hey, gang, Listen.
Is Jay Glazer, host of Unbreakable, a mental wealth podcast,
and every week we will have on leaders from sports
entertainment like Sean McVay, Lindsey Vaughn, Michael phelf, David Spade,
got Fiemi, and also those who can help us in
(22:24):
between the ears, anyone from a therapist to someone like
Ed Milett for John Gordon. We've all been through some
sort of adversity to get to the top.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
We've all used different tools.
Speaker 7 (22:33):
Listen to Unbreakable with Jay Glazer and Mental Wealth podcast
on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts or wherever you get podcasts.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
All right, the run one and we'll tell you that
in just about a minute. He's Bucket Brooks on Andy
Furman and we have Fox Football Sunday on Fox Boots Ready.
By the way, football fans, be sure to tune in
to Fox Sports Radio every single Sunday morning beginning at
ten am Eastern seven am Pacific for Countout to Kickoff
presented by bet MGM Brian No, Jeff Schwartz, and professional
bet at Bill Krackenberger will have you covered three hours
(23:06):
before kickoff. Every Sunday morning. Listen to Count Out the
Kickoff presented by bet MGM right here on Fox Sports
Radio and of course the iHeartRadio app. Let's get it
rolling right now. Raiders, Ravens, both teams oh and one.
Last week, Bucky the Radio is lost to the charge
of twenty two ten and your good friend, the coach
of the Raiders, AP Anthony Pierce. He chose to punt
(23:26):
fourth and one. They were down six with seven fifteen left.
You gotta go for it. Look, the first game I
coach will be the next game I coach. I never
coach in the NFL, I never coach, period. But I'm
watching that game and say, wait a minute, Ap, you
got fourth and one. Do you have any confidence in
your offense? You're down by six with a little over
seven minutes to go. You gotta go for it. I
(23:47):
don't know why he didn't.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
Where was the ball? That depends on where the ball is.
Speaker 5 (23:51):
It also depends on how confident he felt in his defense.
You know, if you are Antonio Peerson, you love to
job that Patrick Graham has been doing well, then you
let Patrick Graham continue to carry the team.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
They believe the strength of their team is their defense, and.
Speaker 5 (24:08):
So depending upon where the ball was, Yeah, you were
allowing your defense to get the ball back and you
hope that that produces an opportunity for you to eventually
score and take the league.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Well, he was in the opponent turf. He was not
in his territories and the opponent territories. I think he
still should have gone. But again, maybe it's not the
lack of confidence of your offense. Maybe it's lack of
confidence in your defense. Then you can't stop him if
you give them the ball back. I don't know. I
don't know why they do that, but similar thing happened.
We'll get to that with the Bengal game last week too,
(24:40):
when they went down and they decided to punt the
football and they didn't keep the ball. I just sometimes
I question that. But the question today for the Ravens
I gotta believe is Derrick Henry last week thirteen carries
forty six yards. You got to give them the ball
more last week. Basically, I think the Ravens won because
of Lamar and because of Lamar's running. He runs for
(25:01):
one hundred and twenty two yards last week against Kansas City,
and that ball gains. If they want to win, that's
what they gotta do.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
Yeah, if they look they want to do it.
Speaker 5 (25:12):
But it's still a work in progress when it comes
to how the Baltimore Ravens need to operate with Derrick Henry.
They haven't had necessarily a runner like him in the backfield.
They've been kind of hodge podge in it, doing it
by a committee.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
They haven't had the king in the backfield.
Speaker 5 (25:27):
And so I think this is one where the Baltimore
Ravens will be a much better team down at the
end of the season then they start, because it takes
some time for Todd Munkin and his staff to kind
of figure out who they are and what they're about.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Well, last week, basically it was just like Likely and Jackson.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
That was it.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
That's how they played the football game. That's why they lost.
They gotta run the football, gotta move the change, you
gotta take some time off the clock. And like you say,
I think you'll see a lot more at Derrick Henry today.
But I don't think they'll have a problem. I think
the Ravens win today over the Raiders. Raiders are a
question right now. No quarterback really, and I think that's
the problem. I think the rate is gonna be some
(26:07):
difficulty this year. I really do well.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
I mean it's hard to play when you don't have
a quarterback. I mean it's hard to play around the position.
It's hard to play around the position. You got to
have guys that can play. They can give you some
of that production offscript and offscript, and right now they
need everything to be perfect and it's just hard for them.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
All right, let's move along, let's get one more in here.
They've got the Chargers at the Panthers right now. And
the Chargers, you know, the debut for Harbaugh. He wins
the ball game. They use the run game at Dobbins
rush for one hundred and thirty five in a touchdown.
But the key is when I look at that game
and kind of reviewed it a little bit, not that
I spend a lot of time on it, but no turnovers.
That kind of clean game, and that's one you do.
(26:47):
Have a clean game, there's a good chance you're going
to win. And I think against the Panthers right now
they should have any difficulty whatsoever. They really should because
right now the JK. Dobbins given the football, rushing for
one hundred and thirty five last week, I continue to
do the same thing against them.
Speaker 5 (27:03):
Well, I mean, that's who they are, and that's who
they're going to be under Jim Harbor. They're gonna run
the football, They're gonna be super physical, they believe in it,
and it's gonna be one of the reasons why they
continue to kind of mashing mall people because that's who
they are and that's who they're gonna be in the
Harbor era.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
The question though, as far as the Panthers are concerned,
losing last week forty seventh to ten to the New
Orleans Saints only one hundred and ninety three yards and
total offense. But the bigger question is Bryce Young, their quarterback.
And I don't know if it's the offensive line problems,
whether it may be, but Bryce Young thirteen for thirty
one hundred and sixty one yards and two I iNTS.
He's got to get better. Bryce Young just has to
(27:42):
get better.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Yes, he got to be better. He number one overall pick.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
Their expectations that come along with being number one, and
because he's not performing well, we can blame all the
weapons around him, but some of being the number one
overall pick is about being able to make things better.
He was drafted to a Triden franchise and everyone understands that,
and everyone knows that, but he has to he has
to be better.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
I don't know if it's gonna happen, Gonna take time,
especially on that team. We'll see what happens there. All right,
He's Bucky Brooks on Andy Fermerwell Fox Football. So they
were just getting started and coming up next on Fox
Live from the ty Rock dot Com studios. We're gonna
tell you who is their best weapon. But first, our
best weapon is Kevin Why with all your sports.
Speaker 8 (28:26):
Yeah, we got the NFL Week two kicking off in
just a few hours. But there are gonna be some
teams that will be without some weapons. The Rams gonna
be without Puka Nakua. He was put on ir earlier
this week after he injured himself in Sunday Night's game
against the Lions, and now, according to Adam Schefter, the
Rams planning on Puka being out between five to seven weeks,
(28:50):
depending on how quickly his PCL injury heals. Other injury
updates Ian Rappaport with several of them. Saints corner Marshawn
Lattimore is questionable with hip and hamstring issues. He is
pushing to play, However, the Saints do want to be
cautious with this being a long season. They do want
(29:10):
to keep him healthy, but they will work him out
this morning to see if he can go. Cold t
wide receiver Josh Downs is dealing with the high ankle sprain.
Is considered fifty to fifty on whether he plays today
to practice fully on Friday, but the team does want
to be cautious to make sure he has zero issues
before they send him out there. Packers wide receiver Jaden
Reid is questionable the caff and shin injury. Is expected
(29:32):
to go for Green Bay. Same four Jamison Williams and
the Lions as the wide receiver dealing with an ankle
injury is expected to play today against Tampa Bay Ravens
linebacker Kyle van Noy, dealing with a fractured orbital bone,
does want to see how he feels this morning before
he decides to take the field against the Raiders, but
(29:54):
he is optimistic about being able to play. Hollywood Brown
now expect to be out for the rest of the season.
According to Adam Schefter, the Chiefs or maybe hoping him
to get him back in the next couple of weeks,
at least they were talking about it, but with the
shoulder injury, he has not expected to be available for
the rest of this regular season. Adam Schefter also with
(30:16):
some more updates regarding the wide receivers. Chargers wide receiver
Josh Palmers, questionable with a knee injury, is tracking to
play against the Panthers. T Higgins is doubtful with a
hamstring injury, not expected to be on the field against
the Chiefs, and Keenan Allen Rome Adoonza are game time
(30:37):
decisions for the Bears in the Sunday night game against
the Houston at Texans As. For college football, all eyes
on Austin. That's been the talk of the country after
Texas demolished UTSA fifty six to seven, but it's because
Arch Manning got significant playing time after quinn Ewers had
to leave the game because of an abdominal injury. Manning
(30:59):
four touchdown passes five touchdowns overall in the day go
on two hundred and twenty three passing yards, So he's
certainly looking very impressive.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
I think.
Speaker 8 (31:07):
Ah'll here's some NFL fans clamoring for their teams to
tink in about two years to see if they can
get them.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
Top rank.
Speaker 8 (31:13):
Georgia over Kentucky thirteen to twelve as the Bulldogs escape
in Lexington.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Number four.
Speaker 8 (31:19):
Alabama rolls over Wisconsin forty two to ten, Number five,
all miss pounds wake Forest forty to six.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Back to you guys, all right.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Thanks Kake. Hey, by the way, keV, do you know
where the orbital bone is with van Noy who got injured?
Speaker 1 (31:32):
No?
Speaker 2 (31:33):
I checked it. It's in the eye socket. Am I correct?
There of that? Bucky the eye socket the bone, right, Yeah,
that's that's Philly dangerous. All right. We rolled along these
Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy Firmer. We are Fox Sports Sunday,
Fox Football Sunday on Fox Bots Radio. Waist Bucky at
about five six minutes from now. Saints Cowboys. All right,
two teams one to zero. All right, I'm gonna make
(31:53):
it real easy here, Saints, what do you gotta do?
Get the bull to their best offensive weapon? That's Chris Olivey.
I love that. I'm sorry. The wide receiver is their
best weapon. Here's the question for the Saints defense. Can
they stop cdee Lamb on the other side of the
ball and can the Cowboys run the ball against the
Saints defense? Period? That's it. Is there anything else to
learn about that Bowl game? I don't know, because I
(32:15):
think the Cowboys win this game.
Speaker 5 (32:18):
You're being very dismissive of the Saints. I'm gonna tell
you this. I think that is the game that you
need to watch. I think that's the game where the
football world could be awakened to the Saints scoring marching in.
The Saints played really well last week. I know everyone
dismisses it because with the Panthers, Clint Kubiak, new offensive coordinator,
added more motion, more play action to what they're doing.
Derek Carr was very comfortable, and I'll be honest, offensively,
(32:40):
the stars were the stars. Alvin Kamara last week had
over one hundred scrimmage yards. Derek Carr had less than
two hundred, but he had a few touchdown passes. Just
be careful, don't dismiss the Saints. They have a lot
of talent and it appears that they have the coaches
on offense that are beginning to put pieces of the
puzzle together.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
Are you going with the Saints? Are you going with
the Saints?
Speaker 4 (32:59):
Though?
Speaker 5 (33:00):
Well, I mean I'm not gonna go with it, Sames,
I'm going to Cowboys. I'm just saying I surprised the
same before it's.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Off, all right, Another two teams that are undefeated at
Buccaneers at the Detroit Lions. Both want to know. You
gotta put pressure on Jared Goff. That's the key right now.
A statistic here that the Lions were ten and two
last year when GoF didn't have an interception. You got
to prussure this guy last year in the postseason. These guys,
these two teams met in the postseason and goth ate
them up. He ate up the Bucks defense and the Lions.
They got the best one two running punch in the
(33:26):
National Football League, Jamier Gibbs and David Montgomery. That's all
you gotta know, all right, I'm just saying the Lions
are a better team. The Lions will win. I think
Tampa Bay will give him a game, but the Lions
win this ball game.
Speaker 4 (33:38):
M another good matchup.
Speaker 5 (33:41):
It's really good, compelling because last year in the playoffs,
we saw how tight that game was. Uh, this would
I say pay attention to Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield last
week completed eighty percent of his passes, threw the ball
all over the yard, did a really good job connecting
with their big three, which is Rashard White, Mike Evans,
Chris Godwin. They accounted for nineteen of his time twenty
three completions. He's in rhythm. This team is beginning to
(34:03):
take on his personality, a lot of swag, a lot
of confidence, kind of some steely determination. The Detroit lines
are tough, but you remember like the Rams had them,
and so I'm good with upsetting this.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
I'm taking ten Bay Buccaneers.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
Really, you know. And it's difficult because they played the
Commanders last week, which is not really a good team.
They've been in thirty seven twenty the Buccaneers did. But again,
how much of a difference does it make in week
number two? Because there is some scouting tape to look at.
We're in week number one. There's no scouting tape there
really isn't. So I think there's a big difference coming
(34:36):
into week number two, isn't there.
Speaker 5 (34:38):
Yeah, there's a huge difference having the tape being able
to make the adjustments. Most teams improve the most between
week one and week two because of all those factors.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
Interesting, But I'm taking the Detroit Lions. I don't care
they in my team this year. They really are. I
like to see him win it all and they may.
They got a shot.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
All right.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
We got Bucket Brooks, we got Indy Firmam, we got
Fox Football Sound of Fox Sports Radio. And we have questions,
Yes we do, and he has the answers. Why, Because,
as Bucky is.
Speaker 9 (35:05):
Next, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup
in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports
Radio dot Com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR
to listen live.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
All right, asked Bucky. Right around the Corner's about twelve
minutes now before the top of the hour. This is
Fox Football Sunday. He is Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy Furman,
and we are live from the Tire Rock dot com Studio.
So let it roll as Bucky here we go, all right?
Week one? Last week on the National Football League. The
big shockers in your mind? Bucky Brooks in Week one?
Speaker 5 (35:38):
Mmm, I think the big shocker would be the New
England Pages knock going toa have Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
I know, go there.
Speaker 5 (35:43):
It's so hard to think about like a week ago,
but I would say the New England Patients just because
everyone thought they were so bad in the preseason, didn't
have many expectations for them, and they come and knock off.
We should be a playoff team, top contender in Week one.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
Yeah, that was a huge shocker.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Let me continue on that if I may, because I
saw that game. Obviously it's local here with the Bengals.
What does that do for a team like New England
when everybody writes them off? Does that give them a
ray of hope, like say, maybe we're not as bad
as people think we are. Could that turn their season?
Or un could they win?
Speaker 5 (36:18):
It was just a fluke with the first thing is
you don't listen to the outside noise and always better
because here's what happens on the outside.
Speaker 4 (36:28):
We don't know what's going on in their locker room.
We actually don't.
Speaker 5 (36:31):
Know how good players are in those things, and so
we are kind of dismissive and think that we know
it all when it comes to that, and it's simply
not true. It's simply a case of this team is
much better than we thought. They have a plan and
they executed the plan. And yeah, last year their defense
was pretty good. Why would their defense fall off just
because Belichick is in there the personnel and everybody else
(36:53):
is there on the defensive staff. So we should have
given the defense probably more respect then we gave him.
Speaker 2 (37:01):
All right, I hear you. We'll see what they do
this week. Now, your week number one flops, obviously you
could probably stay in the same game.
Speaker 4 (37:09):
Well, I mean, yeah, Cincinnati was disappointed.
Speaker 5 (37:11):
We thought that we would see more from them, thought
that they would play pretty well. But I'm gonna say
the flop for me was really the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
Right.
Speaker 5 (37:20):
So much was made of this team revamping what they did.
David Canal is coming over and it's only his first
game as a head coach, but they didn't look drastically
different than the previous versions of the Panthers, even with
the upgrade in personnel, for them to get beat like
they would be forty four forty seven points. I mean
that's a lot in an NFL game. So I would
say they're a huge disappointment. Didn't have high expectations for them,
(37:42):
but certainly expected to see a better product on the
field in Week one.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
All right, Week two, we're into it right now. Your
concerns today in Week two?
Speaker 4 (37:53):
Concerns?
Speaker 5 (37:54):
Look, I think it's about everyone getting back on track.
I am concerned about your team, but I want to
spend too much time talking about the Cincinnati Bengals. But yeah,
I'm worried about them going getting off to a zero
to two start. My concerns if I'm in Pittsburgh, my
concern would be, are they ever gonna give Russell Wilson
a starting job back? If Justin Fields goes and gets
another win, can you turn it over to Russell Wilson?
(38:16):
Depending on how Justin Fields plays. So my concerns is
we may not see Russ ever suit up and be
the guy that we thought he was gonna be in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Well, I would say this, I'm not so certain that
Justin Field's got the win. I mean it was like
five field goals that got the win, wasn't it.
Speaker 5 (38:29):
Something like that is a dub, just like being a
picture in baseball, A dub is a dub.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
There you go, all right, Now, Boise State, Colorado State,
Fresno State, and San Diego they're gonna reform and they're
gonna go into the PAC twelve. That hat that PAC
twelve right now, I believe needs a non football school
to join for the name recognition. I say, what about
Gonzaga joining the Pac twelve as well?
Speaker 5 (38:53):
Your thoughts I mean in basketball, yeah, but they don't
bring a football element. The football teams that can do
it like, so, yeah, if you want to bring the
Zags and let them be a limited partner much like
Notre Dame is a limited partner in the ACC. Cool,
But they got to have some other football teams that
are out there. I'm curious and it's my own selfish reason.
I wonder if they can bring Santos they stayed into
(39:15):
the mix, what other teams can they pilfer from out west,
you know, to kind of bring some of that stuff in.
But so far, so good when it comes to the
schools that they have kind of been able to bring in.
You like seeing some of those things, and I'm not
gonna lie. You also like seeing the Washington State Cougars
when the Apple Cup knocking off Washington, letting them know
(39:37):
that good ball is still played on the outside.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
There you go. Now, what happens to the Mountain West
Conference when this movement is solidified.
Speaker 5 (39:47):
Look, I think what happens is it consolidates with another
conference and you know, it becomes a powerful group of
five thing. I think those guys are going to be
left to fit for themselves. It's unfortunate, but it's one
of the things that we know is going to continue
to happen.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
All right, Last, but not least, I don't think many
people tune into a football game or any sporting event
on TV after they find out who's announcing the game.
I think the announcer is like secondary this. The game
itself is what people want to watch. But the problem
was right now with the Tom Brady situation. I need
to know your thoughts on Tom Brady's debut in NA
Booth as an announcer, And secondarily, will he be the
(40:25):
next quarterback of the Dolphins.
Speaker 5 (40:28):
He will not be the next quarterback of the Dolphins.
I think people are being really, really hard on Tom Brady.
Just because of Tom Brady, everyone wants to take shots
at a champ.
Speaker 4 (40:35):
Look, it's hard doing what he's.
Speaker 5 (40:38):
Being asked to do, call games, And when you have
so much information and knowledge, it's hard to figure out
when to sprinkle in stats of stories in an eight segment,
eight second segment.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
There we go. Have we seen the last of one
NFL quarterback that are more aware? Right here? Fox Football
Sunday next? All right, one player struggles, another player shines,
and that's coming right up. Good morning. This is Football Sunday.
Make it Fox Football Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. He's
Bucky Brooks and Andy Fermana, and we are broadcasting live
(41:07):
from the tyrack dot com studios. Ty rack dot com
will help you get there and on my selection fast
free shipping, free road has a protection and over ten
thousand recommended installers. Ty rack dot com. The way tire
buying should be, the way football should be played, the
way football should be written. On NFL dot Com, he
is Bucky Brooks. Bucky, are you ready? Sundays are crazy
(41:28):
in the fall because it's a whole different schedule for lease,
for me, I'm sure for you as well. And I
can't wait for the late game today in Kansas City.
I know when Mike Harmon gets here and now on
number three, we're gonna dice that game up pretty good.
But I have no clue why Jamar Chase goes on
records saying that his team the Bengals of the team
(41:49):
to beat. How do you say that after what the
Kansas City Chiefs have done the last two years? Why
would you say that?
Speaker 1 (41:55):
Why would you.
Speaker 2 (41:55):
Put that bulletin board material on the Kansas City Chiefs
bulletin board. Why tell me?
Speaker 5 (42:01):
Well, if he believes that, I don't mind him saying.
I think they just have to go.
Speaker 4 (42:08):
And do it. They just haven't done it to this point,
you know.
Speaker 5 (42:11):
But look, you got to remember this is one of
the only teams that had really knocked off the kan
City Chiefs consistently.
Speaker 4 (42:16):
There's no fear.
Speaker 5 (42:17):
Factor for the Cincinnati Bengals and dealing with the kan
City Chiefs. They've beaten them in Arrowhead. Remember we called
it Boroughhead because your borough had a level of dominance
over Pat Mahomes in that building. That confidence is always
going to be there, and sometimes you can just look
at teams and know that we are better than we're
going to beat them, and that confidence is real. But
now they got to perform and they got to do it.
(42:39):
But yeah, I understand why they feel like that. They've
been to a super Bowl and that core is still there,
So the confidence is going to be there. Then you
got to get the execution to go with some of
that enthusiasm and arrogance.
Speaker 2 (42:49):
I always remember what Marvin Lewis to form a coach
of the Cintini Bengals, would always say, I see better
than I hear, So we'll see what happens this afternoon.
I love Marven Lewis.
Speaker 4 (43:00):
Yeah, that's my guy.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
All right, let's go back to third. It's true. Let's
go back to Thursday night. Buffalo was playing the Miami
Dolphins and two Taglavoa. He doesn't have a good night.
Let's face it. He had been three interceptions, had to
pick six and obviously the Bills blew him out. It
wasn't good. Then he's down on the turf after a
(43:22):
head first collision with of all people, DeMar Hamlin. That's
irony right now, here's the guy who at the cardiac
arrest two years ago. So he's on the field. He
was scrambling for a first time. Why he didn't slide,
I have no idea. And news broke right after that
that he had suffered a concussion. It's scary, but especially
sterry for Tua. He had suffered what two or three
(43:42):
frightening had injuries two seasons ago, and now they say
in the protocol they're gonna check it out this week
with some newer surgeons, and you know the rumors are
coming out right now. Ap Antonio Pearce said that he
should just leave the game of football. I don't know
if it's that easy. You're a player. I don't think
you could just say, well, I got a concussion, I'm
(44:03):
gonna quit. I don't think that's gonna happen. I think
he's going to play again. But obviously he's got to
get cleared by the medical staff, and I think that
the coaching staff as well. What happens. What direction there's
two are going now?
Speaker 5 (44:14):
Well, I think the number one thing is you got
to worry about is his health and well being. You
want to make sure you do all the things to
ensure that one he's healthy. Two it depends on the player.
I think it's reckless for us on the outside to
speculate what tour should do because, guess what, we don't
know all the information when it comes to his medical condition.
(44:35):
We don't know one of the number of concussions. We
don't know what his day to day symptoms are. We
don't know what they've told him in terms of long toast,
long term prognosis and what he.
Speaker 4 (44:45):
Could deal with down the line.
Speaker 5 (44:47):
We always equate it to he's made a lot of money,
he should shut it down. But for a lot of players,
it isn't the money, you know what I'm saying. It
isn't just the cash that you have in the bank account.
You talk someone who's twenty five, twenty six, twenty seven
years old, he has the rest of his life to live.
But guess what, there's nothing that's going to replace the
(45:09):
feeling that you feel on the field when you're a player,
Like I think that's the part that people miss. And yes,
these former players talk about like, man, he should do it,
but they also one time were gladiators in the ring,
and there's nothing that you can there's nothing that you
can find that replaces that part of it. And so
(45:30):
for Tua, it's a situation that he has to make
with what he feels comfortable with in terms of the
risk and those things, because guess what, every time anybody
steps into the field, there's a risk that their life
could be altered after the events that transpire. But everyone
takes that risk, and so there's no difference in two
any other player that steps into the National Football League
(45:51):
today in terms of dealing.
Speaker 4 (45:53):
With the risks. And so I think it's on him.
I think the Dolphins need to.
Speaker 5 (45:56):
Give him the best medical care that they can, the
best advice that they can, and then ultimately this on
tour to render that decision.
Speaker 2 (46:04):
You know, book, I I watched the game and then
I watched several replays after that. It didn't even look
like it was that hard of a hit. And it
wasn't a helmet to helmet hit. I think as helmet
went to the chest of DeMar Hamlin, it was kind
of crazy. And then moreover, why didn't he slide? Wasn't
that a situation where you would slide hard?
Speaker 5 (46:22):
Man? So here's the thing, Because we always see the
game when it's replayed, they always slow it down, but
in real time, those decisions are split second. So two,
it has to make a decision right away, like man
whether it's slide or not. And in a very competitive
situation where he's trying to win the game, he's trying
to help his team or whatever. Man, sometimes like your
(46:44):
instincts just take over, and so unfortunately for him, Look,
he got he got hurt, but it just happened to
be a situation where he didn't get down, didn't protect himself.
And remember when it comes to concussions, concussions are not
just direct contact.
Speaker 4 (47:02):
It's the drawing of the brain within the skull. It's
the shaking.
Speaker 5 (47:07):
So he got hit pretty solidly on the shoulder, but
it jarred his head and neck and that's where the
concussions suffered from now on the outside without having any
medical thing.
Speaker 4 (47:17):
Yeah, it didn't look like a big hit.
Speaker 5 (47:19):
So you just wonder, like, man, is he gonna be
susceptible to more, just because that appeared to be like
a glancing blow.
Speaker 4 (47:24):
But you just never know.
Speaker 5 (47:26):
Every concussion has its own, like has his life of
his own.
Speaker 2 (47:29):
I realize he's going for the first down, okay, but
and I don't know he's susceptible for concussions because he
had him in the past. But don't you think that
the coaching staff from the sidelines would say, let's go
for the first down. But I don't want you running.
I don't want you taking a chance. Don't they do that?
Do they try to protect the quarterback in that manner?
Speaker 4 (47:46):
No, you can't. You got to play the game the
way the game is supposed to be played. You can't.
You can't do that. And so that's that's the thing.
Speaker 5 (47:53):
Like you can tell them, hey, man, protect yourself if
you get out of the pocket and those things, But
in terms of trying to give him step by step
instruction and detailed and all of that, no, it's too hard, man.
The game is too hard to be able to figure
out what to do and how to do it and
all that other stuff.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
It's amazing, it really is. And you know what, it's
not fair for the team. Look, his health, that's the
most obviously most important thing right there. But the team
right now is in flux backup quarterback. What do they do?
And then the rumors are floating out there that Tom
Brady's gonna come and sign with the Miami Dolphins. I
(48:32):
don't see that happening. I asked you that in list.
Speaker 5 (48:34):
Too many things, And so that's why we got to
put that to bed because everyone loves speculating, they love
bringing up chyne up names because it's clickbait.
Speaker 4 (48:39):
But here's what Tom Brady, we have to do.
Speaker 5 (48:41):
Tom Brady's in the process of purchasing ownership from the
Las Vegas Raiders.
Speaker 4 (48:46):
He would have to divest that.
Speaker 5 (48:47):
He would have to leave his job at Fox Sports
to come down and be a part time player for
the Miami Dolphins. At forty six, almost forty seven, I mean,
what are we doing?
Speaker 4 (48:55):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (48:56):
It's nice to think that, but he's forty six, forty
I mean, he's done, His time is done. We loved him,
he played for twenty years, but he's not coming out
the booth after doing all those other things.
Speaker 4 (49:07):
He's not.
Speaker 5 (49:08):
So it's not just a cut and dry situation where
he could just pop up cinema Dolphins facility. He has
other stuff that he's working on that would prevent him
from being able to do that.
Speaker 2 (49:17):
You gotta wonder who starts this stuff, really, I mean,
who starts to these clickbait?
Speaker 4 (49:20):
It's clickbait though it's just clickbait.
Speaker 5 (49:23):
Is I would say, like, without being offensive, it's lazy
because it's clickbait. Because if you know how it works,
you know that he can't do that.
Speaker 2 (49:31):
Well, I don't think he's going to do it, and
it'd be crazy to do it anyway. All Right, we
move on because obviously I love reading NFL dot Com
because you write that pros every single Friday, and you're
write about Jim Harbaugh, which is when we talked about
the fact that they wont He won his opening last
week no turnovers. But you talk about him going from
the past happy game to the run game now with
the LA Chargers, and you got a tremendous statistic and
(49:53):
that story that he wrote last year, he wrote eleven
or the fourteen playoff participants finished the regular season ranked
in the top fifteen in rushing arts, with three of
the four teams that made it to the championship. Sunday
foding on his Lions and Ravens top five run games.
And like they talk about the NFL as a league
of passing, a passing league, it's a run it's a
(50:15):
run first. Now it looks like to me things are changing.
You know, things always evolved, and it's evolving right now
and a lot of teams are running the football. That's
what it's out it's all about right.
Speaker 5 (50:25):
Now, Yeah, they're running the football because I mean, honestly,
it's the easiest way to control the game.
Speaker 4 (50:32):
You can control the game with the running.
Speaker 5 (50:33):
Game because it allows you to one dictate the terms
to the defense. You can force them out of their
light boxes to put more people in the box.
Speaker 4 (50:43):
So then it opens up the passing game. You are
running the ball, so the.
Speaker 5 (50:46):
Clock is always running, so ball control possession allows you
to kind of shrink the game and make the game
the kind of game that you wanted to be. There's
a physical element that comes to it, where we talk
about promoting toughness having a wearing down effect on the defense,
and then for the quarterback, it just makes everything easier
because you're able to throw on favorable situations because you're
(51:10):
likely to win on first and second down, and so
now you have manageable situations on second and third down,
which makes life easier for the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (51:18):
And it's funny because last week the Los Angeles charge,
it's finished with more rushing yards one hundred and seventy
six and they had one hundred and forty passing yards.
We talked about JK. Dobbins. He led the way one
hundred and thirty five yards and a touchdown on only
ten carries on only ten carries justin Herbert seventeen to
twenty six for one forty four but one seventy six
rushing yards to one forty passing yards. Then we'll see
(51:40):
what happens today. I guess he's gonna stay with that
same formula. That's what he does. He's beefed up that
offensive line and basically he wants to run the football.
And like you say, you could get a little lead
and just run out the clock. That's what you're gonna do.
Move to change with the rushing game, and a lot
of teams are doing that now. It's a copycat league,
you know that. You can see a lot more teams
doing I remember last year, I think the Eagles started
(52:00):
the season and had some problems. They switch after seven
eight games they started running the football. What do they
do this year? They get say Kwon Barkley, they got
to run the football. You know what do the Ravens do?
They got it, Derrick Henry, They're going to run the football.
That's what teams are doing right now.
Speaker 5 (52:14):
I mean it is when you go back and you
look at the stats and even though, like on the outside,
we love the passing game, right, there's something that we
are just so excited about seeing balls flying in the
air and receivers making these acrobatic catches that just intoxicates
the public.
Speaker 4 (52:32):
But winning football is.
Speaker 5 (52:33):
About running the ball, and we talked about controlling the
game and setting your defense and using all three phases
to win.
Speaker 4 (52:40):
Complimentary football is what they call it.
Speaker 5 (52:43):
We're seeing the teams that go deep into playoffs, they
all have that ability. Now, you need to have a
quarterback in the postseason to be able to get it
done at the highest level. But for most teams, if
you want to go from bad to average or from
average to good, it's about the running game and being
able to control it.
Speaker 4 (53:01):
And we're seeing more teams do that.
Speaker 5 (53:03):
Because as much as we love and celebrate the quarterback play,
and we're seeing the numbers escalate, quarterback play is good,
but it's not great where we can all hang our
hat on the one performance of the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (53:16):
There's just not enough for those guys to go around, right.
Speaker 2 (53:20):
You know you wrote about this as well. I mean
the running game translating now into the passing game and
the fourth overall pick last year in the draft. Marvin
Harrison Junior with the Arizona Cardinals. Last week in Arizona
and the Cardinals Week one loss to the Bills, Marvin
Harrison Junior finished one catch for four yards on three targets.
Three targets for a number one drift pick. What happened?
(53:41):
What went wrong? And is there a problem now with
Marvin Harrison Junior?
Speaker 5 (53:46):
A few different things a little bit on him, some
on the coaches and some on the quarterback. I'll say
on him is the ability to consistently create separation.
Speaker 4 (53:56):
Though we viewed him as the.
Speaker 5 (53:57):
Most polished, most prepared, pro ready prospect in the draft
or receiver in the draft, that is true, but it's
still an acclimation period when it comes to playing.
Speaker 4 (54:07):
I would say winning.
Speaker 5 (54:08):
Football in the National Football League like being able to
just kind of win and understand what's going on and
all that other stuff.
Speaker 4 (54:15):
The other part of it is the scheme.
Speaker 5 (54:19):
You know, when it comes to the scheme, did Drew
Pinsiy do a good enough job of creating opportunities for
Marvin Harrison? He said he didn't didn't get him enough targets.
Like if you're best player, you have to have a
thing on your call sheet. Hey, I got to get
the ball to my best player enough times for him
to impact the game, because ultimately it is my best.
Speaker 4 (54:39):
Player versus your best player. If ball my best player.
Speaker 5 (54:42):
Touches the ball, more more than likely he's gonna put
up bigger plays and give us an opportunity to win.
That didn't happen, And I finally Calamary being a little
more intentional making sure that Marvin Harrison gets enough touches.
Sometimes you want them to go through the progression, but
other times you're like, hey man, sometimes we need to
just get the ball to our guy and let him
go to work.
Speaker 2 (55:00):
It's kind of funny because really and truly, there wasn't
any scouting on that because, as you mentioned early on,
there's no tape for week one. So we're gonna see
what happens today with Marvin Harrison Junior. If there's a
question mark, if there's a problem, I think it's going
to develop. He's too good of an athlete not to
have a good season. I have a lot of confidence
in Marvin Irison Junior. I think he's gonna do well.
(55:22):
We'll see what he does today. Your take on that,
I think it was just one of those things. It
was the first game in the NFL. It happens.
Speaker 4 (55:30):
Yeah, it does happen, and it continue to happen.
Speaker 5 (55:32):
He has to make sure that he knows what he's doing.
They got to make sure they're on the same page.
And it is a process, you know, like the first
four to six weeks of the season about figuring out
what your team is and how your team needs to play.
And as they get more comfortable with the personnel, then
they figure out how to play with everybody and do
those things.
Speaker 2 (55:51):
Okay, you have always talked about coaching makes a difference,
and I'm saying, you know, it's personal, and you know what.
I'm leaning over to your side. Now, you're right. You're
smarter than me. You played the game, you know what
you're talking about, and you have the proof positive right here.
We talked about the New Orleans Saints and another playing
Dallas today and I was saying, Dallas is gonna win.
You take it back, Take it back, New Orleans. They
(56:14):
may lose the game, but the Saints aren't as bad
as I think they are. And last week New Orleans
and the debut of their new offensive coordinator, Clint Kobiak,
they smashed up the pants. I know it's the Panthers
forty seven to ten, but the offense had three hundred
and seventy nine total yards, balanced approach one ninety nine,
passing onein eighty, rushing Derek Carr nineteen to twenty three
(56:36):
for two hundred yards and three touchdowns. Camara had twenty
touches for one hundred and ten yards. This could be
a situation right now where you hit it right on
the head with Clint Kobiak is the new OC.
Speaker 5 (56:49):
Yeah, he did a really good job of doing some
things that are new for the Saints. A lot of
that stems from his connection to the Shanahans and knowing offense.
Speaker 4 (57:00):
Anyone who has been in.
Speaker 5 (57:01):
That tree is a big believer in pre stamp motion,
big believer in play action, and what those things do
is they create big play opportunities pre stamp motion because.
Speaker 4 (57:12):
It diverts your eyes.
Speaker 5 (57:14):
It makes your defenders really have to lock it and focus,
and when they're not locked in and focused, they have
errors and situations in misalignments, and all those things can
look just resultant bust and explosive plays. The other thing
the play action does is it's misdirection and deceptions, bringing
defenders to the line of scrimmage because they see the
(57:35):
ball and they're thinking the run game is happening. So
that just creates bigger windows at the second level. Clint Kubiek,
did that enhance the offense? And so because of that,
I mean, the offense looked pretty good.
Speaker 4 (57:47):
Yeah they should did.
Speaker 2 (57:47):
I still think they're gonna lose to Dallas, but I
think they're gonna put some points. I think the coaching
does make a difference. And you've brought me over to
your side. I believe you right now. All right, he's
Bucky Brooks. Get him on Twitter, get him on X
whatever you want to call it. A Bucky Brooks Swollen Dome,
that's Mike Harmon. He joins us. Next hour, get him
at Swollen Dome at Andy Furman fisode. We'll take your
(58:08):
phone calls at eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
That's eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
We have bottom barrel betting in this hour, and of
course one team will have a feast today. They will
that's next. It's a real simple scheme and we'll tell
you all about it in just about a minute. He
is Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy firmway off Fox Football Sunday

(58:51):
as we get off the air. Now, let's get into
this game right now. Let's talk about the Colts and Packers,
two teams that are looking for their first win. Kind
of an easy situation to discuss this game was the
Colts you got to run the football, bucket, Brooks said,
you got to winn the football. So Jonathan Taylor shoved
the ball in his belly. He had forty eight rushing yards.
Last week when they lost to the Texans, the Colts
did they lost twenty nine to twenty seven given the ball.
(59:13):
As for the Packers and their defense, and in the
last week they lost to the Eagles thirty four to
twenty nine. Their defense allowed one hundred and thirty two yards,
but He also gave about three touchdowns to Sae Kwon
Barkley of the Eagles. Big question for today, Buckers Malik
Willis the quarterback for the Packers. That's the question. Canny
get it done. He needs a big day from their
running back Josh Jacobs. I think that's the only way
they can win that ball game. Give Jacobs the ball,
(59:35):
run the football, run down the clock, and hopefully you
can win this ball game.
Speaker 4 (59:41):
Yeah. I mean, that's what is That's what it's going
to require.
Speaker 5 (59:44):
It's going to require them to be able to run
the football to take some of the pressure off of
malikue Willis.
Speaker 4 (59:51):
M league.
Speaker 5 (59:51):
Willis making one of a handful of starts that he's
made in the National Football League, and in the past
he hasn't shown the ability to really excel as a
quarterback that has a lot on him. You want to
utilize his legs, you want to combine it with a
solid running game, and you want to hope that the
defense can step up. If those things happen, then it's
gonna be really positive for the package.
Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
Question I have now Malik Williams, if he has a
bad day today, if he has three or four I iNTS,
do the package, go back to the drawing board and say, look,
we need to get rid of this guy and gets
someone else.
Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
What do I do?
Speaker 4 (01:00:18):
Do they go?
Speaker 2 (01:00:19):
Is it a tryout for this kid? What do they
do well?
Speaker 5 (01:00:22):
I mean, I don't know if it's try it's too
late in the state, too late in the game to
try it out. You got to make him get better.
The problem is he's only been there three four weeks
because he got there at the end of training camp.
You got to try and find a way to make
him comfortable within their offense while doing the things that
he does really really well. It's a learning process for
Matt Lafleur. It is different calling the game from Elik
Willis than it would be for calling things for Jordan
(01:00:44):
Love because you don't have the entire playbook at your disposal.
You also don't have the audible game completely at your disposal,
and so it's more on the play call of being right,
being almost perfect to be able to guide and navigate
a backup quarterback through his first One of the is
first start with the team.
Speaker 2 (01:01:02):
All right, your team the Jags, they're only one looking
for the first win. They're playing the Browns, their only
one as well, your Jags lost twenty seventeen at Miami
last week, and their rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas was
a shining star for them. He really was. Browns lost
to Dallas thirty three seventeen. They allowed five sacks the
Browns did last week, Josh Allen, Travon Walker. They're gonna
(01:01:22):
go after the Deshaun Watson today, that's for sure. Deshaun Watson, boy,
better turn it around. You better turn around turn around
quickly for the Browns. And you said that Miles Garrett
could be the defensive player of the Year in the
National Football League. He better start playing like it. He's
got to be a game changer. They got a pressure
that offensive line of the Jags, and you got to
make Trevor Lawrence do what he does best. That's turned
the ball over, which he hasn't done much lately, but
(01:01:45):
he can. If they gonna make him uncomfortable turn the
ball over, the Browns win this game.
Speaker 4 (01:01:50):
Yeah, it's gonna have to be that kind of thing.
Speaker 5 (01:01:51):
It's gonna have to be a situation where they find
a way to make him very, very uncomfortable in the pocket.
If they do that, then you have an opportunity to
get it done.
Speaker 4 (01:02:01):
But it is.
Speaker 5 (01:02:02):
About the Jaguars finding a way to make Deshaun Watson uncomfortable.
It's about finding a way to block Miles Garrett. If
you do those things, then the Jaguars feel good about themselves.
For the Browns, it's about trying to find a sembilance
of a running game to alleviate some of the pressure
on Deshaun Watson have to make all of the plays.
There's a lot of pressure on everybody in the Browns
(01:02:22):
organization to make this right with Deshaun Watson. But everyone
has to cast that to the side and just say, look,
the money that is going to Deshaun Watton is gone,
that's not coming back. How can we make him the
best player that we need him to be for us?
And if that's taking stuff off of his plate, if
that's changing or tweaking our playing style, we need to
do that. Because Kevin Stefanski should be in the winning business.
(01:02:45):
What do I need to do with this player to win?
The money is the money and that shouldn't factor into
how we play with Deshaun Watson. You just got to
play with them because the money's already spent.
Speaker 2 (01:02:56):
You have no doubt about that, as far as as
far as the project is. You know, just saying right
now in Cleveland, Joe Flackle, where are you? Where are you? Right?
I mean seriously, I mean it's not good. And you
know what, I thought this Browns team could be a
contender for the division this year. I'm not so certain
right now. I don't think did it, Tim? I thought
they were. I like the Jacks to win today, Jacks
(01:03:18):
goal to beat the Browns.
Speaker 5 (01:03:20):
I mean, it's it's early, you know what I'm saying, Like,
it's early in the year and they can always turn around.
It's only week one. But yeah, no, it's not like
what they thought it would be. But look, I think
this and I think we are on our part, like
on the media part, we create these things. The reality
(01:03:40):
of it is they can't trade nor can they really
bench Deshaun Watson.
Speaker 4 (01:03:44):
The money so significant that you can't do it.
Speaker 5 (01:03:46):
So everyone is like, oh, he's gonna go Nope, not
with seventy million on the cap next year and ninety
million dollar like debt cap here to whatever it would be.
Speaker 4 (01:03:55):
Now that's a rap. So now it's on the coaching
staff to figure out a way for him. To play better.
Speaker 5 (01:04:00):
It's also on Deshaun Watson kind of meet the people
halfway and admit to having played my best.
Speaker 4 (01:04:04):
I got to kind of get it together.
Speaker 5 (01:04:05):
I'm going to get it together and kind of show
some of that fight that people in the Midwest will respect.
Speaker 4 (01:04:11):
He has to kind.
Speaker 5 (01:04:12):
Of embrace some of the ruggedness that's a part of
the fabric of Cleveland and the Dog Pound, much like
jerried Goff embraced Detroit and Motown and kind of became
like them, which is why the city in turn loves
him well. Also winning games, Deshaun Watson has to embody
some of that. So I think it's on him to
meet the fans halfway, but also perform at a level
(01:04:33):
that many expect.
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
There you go, let's squeeze it one once. Get the
forty nine Ers and the Vikings right now. Forty nine
Ers beat up on the Jets last week thirty two
to nineteen. The Vikings beat the Giants twenty eight to six.
No Christian McCaffrey for several weeks now with the calf injury,
that's big for the forty nine ers. I don't think
it's going to affect theim in this game. I still
think that too many playmakers against the Vikings to lose
to the Vikings. The Vikings get this, the defense held
(01:04:57):
the Giants to less than one hundred yards on the ground. Okay,
it's a great stat but I look at it again.
I said to myself, you know what that's not so
much credit for the Vikings defense is the pathetic offense
of the Giants. That's basically what that was in my mind.
But I just think the forty nine ers have too
many playmakers. Forty one has win this game. But that
status kind of misleading with the Vikings defense. Don't you agree?
Speaker 4 (01:05:21):
It can't be? I mean it can't be.
Speaker 5 (01:05:24):
But I will say this, Brian Floyd's gives people a
lot of fits with that bluff and blitz kind of
approach that he does a lot of a lot of
six man pressures zone behind it. He really challenges quarterbacks
to kind of fit that figure out what they're doing
behind a six man rush, which is problematic because man
if the quarterback gets hit a couple of times, he
(01:05:45):
begins to look at the rush as opposed to looking
down the field and really evaluating where you're supposed to evaluate.
And so it's a tough defense. And I'm gonna say
this on the flip side, Sam Donald coming back. Sam
Donald looked at home and very comfortable in Kevin O'Connell's offense.
Know him knowing pretty well because they had him on
the team last year.
Speaker 4 (01:06:03):
They understand his talents.
Speaker 5 (01:06:04):
But a look different when you got a play caller
that believes in your talent and believes that he can
set you up for success.
Speaker 4 (01:06:10):
That's what they have in Minnesota. That's why it's gonna
be a tough game for the Niners.
Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
Well, you like the Niners though, you do like the
Niners in this?
Speaker 5 (01:06:16):
I mean I do like the Niners in this, Like
the nine Ers are the favorite. The Niners should win
the game.
Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
There you go, all right, he's Bucket Brooks. I'm Andy Firm.
We are Fox Football Sunday on Fox Sports. Ray can
lightning strike twice for one NFL team today. That's that's
what first, Kevin Wyant strikes with all your sports.
Speaker 8 (01:06:32):
Next, we got some injury updates ahead of this week's
slate of game set to kick off in just a
few hours. Adam Scheffer with an update regarding some wide receivers.
Chargers receiver Josh Palmer is questionable but expected to play
against the Panthers this afternoon. Same Ford Jamison Williams Lions
(01:06:53):
wide out. He's listened as questionable with an ankle injury,
but he is expected to take the field against the Buccaneers.
But t Hag not expected to be aut today against
the Chiefs. He was already listed as doubtful with his
hamstring issue, but now is not expected to play. And
for the Bears, Keenan Allen and Roma doomsa gonna be
game at time decisions for the Sunday night matchup. Allen
(01:07:15):
will test it pregame and if he plays, will be
more sparingly the normal, according to Adam Schefter. Some other
updates from Ian Rappaport. Marshawn Latimore is questionable with hip
and hamstring issues. He is pushing to play, but the
team does want to be cautious to make sure he
is healthy throughout the long season, but they are going
to work him out this morning to see how he responds.
(01:07:38):
Colts wide out Josh Downs is dealing with the high
ankle sprain. Is considered fifty to fifty on whether he
plays to be but he did practice fully on Friday
and they do want to see if he is completely
healed before they send him out on the field today.
Packers wide receiver Jaden Reid is questionable the cafin Shitton
injury and he has expected it to be on the field.
(01:08:00):
Linebacker Kyle van Noy fractured orbital bone, is going to
see how he feels this morning, but he is optimistic
about being able to take the field. Hollywood Brown, according
to Adam Schefter, will now be out for the rest
of the twenty twenty four regular season, as the Chiefs
were hoping to maybe get him back after a few weeks,
but according to Schefter, he's not expected to be back
(01:08:23):
at all this regular season. And in college football, Texas
and UTSA as the Longhorns win this one fifty six
to seven, But the story of that game, Quinn Ewers
had to leave because of an abdominal injury and arch
Manning came in promptly threw a touchdown part of four
touchdown passes, also had five total on the day. He
(01:08:46):
had a compressive running touchdown as well.
Speaker 1 (01:08:49):
To go with it.
Speaker 8 (01:08:49):
He also had twitter in twenty three yards as Texas
wins big, but Georgia the top right Bulldogs really had
to win a nail bider against Kentucky in le ten
as they escape thirteen to twelve. Number four, Alabama rolls
over Wisconsin forty two to ten. Number five, all miss
pounds wig for US forty to six.
Speaker 2 (01:09:10):
Back to you guys, thanks kevc in and now all right,
one NFL team. It's the same old story that's coming
right up. He's Bucky Brooks, some ay firm, and this
is Fox Football Sunday and Fox buttrat and of course
we got bottom barrel betting at about eight minutes for now.
But let's go to the Seahawks. Denver. Seahawks are one
to oh they beat Denver. No, Seahawks beat them, I'm sorry,
twenty six to twenty. They're playing the Patriots today at
(01:09:31):
New England, and the Patriots are want to know they
beat the Bengals sixteen to ten. Now, let's go back
to the coaching situation which Bucky Brooks has taught me
so very well. It's making a difference. The Seahawks that
winded their coach Mike McDonald, former Ravens defensive coordinator, and
it showed last week. They held Denver to tour to
thirty one. Totally yards and they forced three turnovers. So
(01:09:52):
coaching makes a difference, and never thought it did. It
does make a difference, all right, except in Carolina. They
can't win them matter who coaches. But the offense gave
up two safeties and an interception. So right now, I
would say, can the Pages do it? Can lightning strike twice?
Can they win again? All you got to do is
give the Boulton and running back Ramonde Stevenson last week
(01:10:13):
one hundred and twenty yards and a touchdown on twenty
five carries against the Bengals. However, Bengals can't stop the run.
That's the problem right there. I like the Seahawks. I
think the Seahawks win this game.
Speaker 5 (01:10:24):
I mean, Seattle's a formerable fall might be down doing
a really good job of streamlining some of the stuff
they were doing.
Speaker 4 (01:10:30):
Defensively.
Speaker 5 (01:10:31):
They're playing much better when it comes to that, and
it's a thing where you want to continue.
Speaker 4 (01:10:38):
To work on, like kind of putting the package together.
Speaker 5 (01:10:43):
Meaning the defense confromence to the offense and the special teams.
The Seahawks took strides towards doing that. I continue to
think that this is going to be one of the
teams that we talked about as one of the top
four or five teams in the NFC.
Speaker 4 (01:10:54):
I think they're gonna win.
Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
I do too. I think they're a good team. And
I'll tell you what I like the defense right now.
I mean, again, the Denver's offense is kind of pathetic,
like the Giants offense is a pathetic, and they did
hold them to two hundred thirty one, totally odds. We'll
see today. Is it their defense or is it the
pathetic offense of Denvery? We could go. We don't know,
but again, he's making a difference, there's no doubt about that.
(01:11:17):
So we'll see what happens there. Jets at the Titans,
both teams looking for their first win. Same old story
for the Jets.
Speaker 1 (01:11:23):
They lose.
Speaker 2 (01:11:23):
They lost to the forty nine Ers last week. The
Titans lost to the Bears twenty four to seventeen. But
the good news is a Aaron Rodgers played b he
didn't get hurt, and he did have a free play
touchdown to Allen Bazzard against the forty nine And so,
you know what, they just got to do two things
They've got to do this. They got to protect Aaron
Rodgers and they got to put some pressure on the
(01:11:44):
Titans quarterback Will Levis, which I don't know if they can.
That's the thing, right there. Can they do that? If
they can, I don't know. They have a better opportunity.
I think the pressure Levis than to protect Rodgers with
their offensive line.
Speaker 4 (01:12:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:12:01):
So it's funny because the ball is gonna be out
of Aaron Rodgers and so quickly, it's gonna be hard
to get pressure on him unless your coverage is super
sticky and.
Speaker 4 (01:12:08):
Tight on the back end.
Speaker 5 (01:12:10):
With Levis, it's easier to disrupt his time, and it's
easier to force him into some situations where he's gonna
have to make split second decisions that.
Speaker 4 (01:12:19):
Can lead the turnovers.
Speaker 5 (01:12:21):
It's really about them speeding up Levis's clock because when
his clock gets sped up, it becomes an issue.
Speaker 4 (01:12:29):
In regard to ball security and those things.
Speaker 5 (01:12:31):
I have more hope that the Jets are going to
figure this out, more so than Tennessee Titans.
Speaker 2 (01:12:36):
Okay, let me squeeze in one more game here because
my good friend Mike Northough I used to work with
here on Fox. But it's ready with say this. The
Giants are playing at the Commanders both teams are oll
on one. If this game moves in my backyard, I
closed the drapes. Really, I wouldn't even want to watch
this game. That's how banned this game. Really. I loved
the Giants right now. Daniel Jones may have had one
of the worst games of his career against Minnesota last week.
(01:12:59):
He was booed and he should have been booed Kenny rebound.
That's the thing. Is it in his head? Now? Is
it a mental thing? I don't think the Giants win today.
I think the Commanders win, and I like to see
Jayden Daniels do something positive today. You know, they had
Tampa Bay last week. They lost thirty seven to twenty.
The Commanders did. But I think the Commanders win. They're
good enough to be the Giants, and Giants are real bad.
(01:13:20):
Giants are worst than the New England Patriots, and the
Patriots got all that negativity. The Giants are worse.
Speaker 5 (01:13:26):
They are just in terms of playing, just in terms
of playing. It's just not great. Yeah, I'm gonna go
with the Commanders in this situation. The Giants are back
bounce back because they're proferful. I don't know if they
have enough talent though, letting Saquon Barkley go, particularly when
you saw off season hard knocks, and that's different. You know,
(01:13:50):
it changes things. But without Saquon the kind of steady
of the offense, yes, a different offense.
Speaker 4 (01:13:56):
They don't have enough explosive players.
Speaker 2 (01:13:58):
Yeah, ain't that hard knocks? I mean, weren't the Giants
also talking, I know, the ownership, the Mara family, they
wanted to keep say quing, But weren't they also talking
about drafting Jayden Daniels as well? That was another situation
throwing hard knocks. They were looking at Jayden Daniels.
Speaker 5 (01:14:13):
Well, I mean I think they were looking. But you
always do that draft situation. Your job is always to
kind of see what you can get, what's available in
the draft, and if there's a way to upgrade your
team in any way, shape or form. So that's what
they should do. They should do their due diligence to
make sure that happens. And they did it.
Speaker 4 (01:14:30):
But there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:14:33):
Not good?
Speaker 4 (01:14:34):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
So that game were put on the back burner. That's
like minor league football today. It really is come in
to win that game over the Giants, all right, Bucky
brooks Andy Furman. It's a new season, and we're going
to see if the results are the same. What bottom
barrel betting is freaking next? All right, bottom barrel betting
right around the bend. It is now about twelve minutes
(01:14:54):
before the top of the hour. He's Bucket Brooks and
Andy Furrman. We are Fox Football Sunday on Fox. But's
right well, live from the ti iraq dot com studios.
But we have a game to play. So let's play.
Speaker 9 (01:15:05):
It's bottom lanty to sleep.
Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
People, get my money. I'll put your brain to sleep. Yes,
it's the new season, Sha Shade taking away the new season.
What's happening? Give me the results? I need the results.
Speaker 3 (01:15:18):
Okay.
Speaker 10 (01:15:19):
So I never got the results for last week from
the other producer, so we're starting from this week again.
Speaker 3 (01:15:27):
Zero zero. We're doing it. Is that all right with
you guys?
Speaker 2 (01:15:31):
That's fine unless I won last week?
Speaker 4 (01:15:34):
So last week last week didn't exist. It's in the
ether exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:15:39):
So last week was preseason.
Speaker 10 (01:15:41):
Exactly, preseason games, just some fun little matchups.
Speaker 2 (01:15:44):
Who was last week? Was that? Brianna?
Speaker 3 (01:15:46):
I believe? I think?
Speaker 2 (01:15:48):
Yeah, A fine.
Speaker 3 (01:15:50):
Her, I'll ask I'll ask her about it.
Speaker 10 (01:15:52):
I'll text her about It's Mark I was like it
was so it was a little late to text her now.
Speaker 2 (01:15:56):
So I understand. All right, let's get it going.
Speaker 10 (01:16:00):
So yeah, for the people that don't know about this game,
I looked through a bunch of betting websites and I
basically find bets throughout sports that basically are not normal
or basically sports that you haven't.
Speaker 3 (01:16:13):
Really heard of.
Speaker 10 (01:16:15):
And I give them to Bucky and Andy and they
tell me what they think and or what they think
will win.
Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
So let's get right into it.
Speaker 10 (01:16:23):
And the Vietnamese bad minton women's singles open TOI Lynn,
nowhen is taking on Caru Suguyama. Right now, Toy is
even while Suguiyama is minus one.
Speaker 3 (01:16:41):
Andy, let's start with you.
Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
I'm gonna go with Karub because I like I always
like rock Karu. I don't know why, but I'm gonna
go with Kruz Siriana, Kruz Cruz my pick Karu.
Speaker 4 (01:16:53):
I'm gonna take the opposite. I can really opposite. I'm
gonna go opposite. So I think my players do one.
Speaker 10 (01:16:59):
It was Yeah, those are gonna be the hardest names
to the day, So don't worry, guys. I wanted to
get that one out of the way quick in the
Premiere In the Premiere Lacrosse League Championship Series, the Maryland
whip Snakes are taking on the Utah Archers today at
twelve pm Pacific Standard time. The whip Snakes are even
while the arch Archers are minus one thirty Bucket's start
(01:17:21):
with you.
Speaker 4 (01:17:22):
Mmmm, you say the lip is the Lipstingers.
Speaker 10 (01:17:26):
The whips whips, whip Snakes versus the Archers.
Speaker 4 (01:17:33):
Let's go to whip sticks wicks.
Speaker 3 (01:17:35):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:17:35):
I was gonna go with the whip Steaks or whatever
they were, because I think the lacrosse is more of
an East Coast game and Maryland's on the East coast.
But I don't know if you could have a team
in Utah. They much know what they're doing. So I'm
gonna go with the Utah whatever they're.
Speaker 3 (01:17:48):
Called, Utah Archers Archers.
Speaker 10 (01:17:50):
In the National Rugby League, the Cronella Sharks are taking
on the North Queensland Cowboys Friday, September twentieth, two fifty
am Pacific Standard time. The Sharks are minus one fifty
seven while the Cowboys are plus one thirty three. Andy,
Let's start with you.
Speaker 2 (01:18:07):
I got it. I'm gonna take the Cowboys number one,
but the first team with the Sharks.
Speaker 3 (01:18:11):
Where they located Cornella? I don't know where there is cornella?
I haven't.
Speaker 2 (01:18:16):
It sounds like a candy bar. Where's cornella?
Speaker 3 (01:18:18):
I mean, I haven't. I think it's in the UK somewhere.
Speaker 2 (01:18:21):
Well, we'll find that out later. I got the I
got the Sharks to the Cowboys. I'm sorry, Cowboys?
Speaker 4 (01:18:27):
Which one the Sharks of the Cowboys? At the Cowboys?
Speaker 2 (01:18:30):
I got the Cowboys. I'll take it. It sounds like,
you know, these teams are scaring me.
Speaker 1 (01:18:35):
I got.
Speaker 2 (01:18:36):
Does it make a difference?
Speaker 4 (01:18:39):
Does make a difference? I need to know who to pick.
Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
At the Cowboys? Cowboys?
Speaker 4 (01:18:45):
All right? Give me the other guys works Cowboys, I
mean make a difference.
Speaker 9 (01:18:53):
Alright.
Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
What's next?
Speaker 10 (01:18:55):
And the Online Darts League Justin Smith is taking on
Ross Montgomery tomorrow night at two thirty am Pacific standard time.
Justin Smith is minus one seventy while Ross Montgomery is
plus one thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:19:08):
And this is what now darts?
Speaker 3 (01:19:10):
This is the online Darts League?
Speaker 4 (01:19:13):
Oh my, what is even online darts?
Speaker 10 (01:19:15):
So they basically they play each other online. So like
let's say it was during COVID, they wouldn't be able
to be in the same room together.
Speaker 4 (01:19:22):
Oh so, I'm so, I'm in my dorm room. You're
exact dorm room. We got the camera on my world.
Speaker 3 (01:19:27):
And they have like their own dart boards.
Speaker 2 (01:19:30):
You got to get a life to do that. I
mean really true.
Speaker 4 (01:19:32):
Okay, okay, it's like being in college, but we're in
separate room.
Speaker 3 (01:19:35):
Exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:19:35):
I got exactly who's up?
Speaker 3 (01:19:38):
Who's Bucky?
Speaker 4 (01:19:39):
Alright? Okay, give me the two names again.
Speaker 3 (01:19:42):
Justin Smith, Ross Montgomery?
Speaker 4 (01:19:45):
All right, give me Justin Smith.
Speaker 2 (01:19:47):
Uh look, go Ross. Montgomery sounds like a It sounds
like an englishmith for somebody, and he probably knows darts,
has some bloodlines that people you know that play darts.
I'll go with Montgomery. Montgomery's my guy, and then quickly.
Speaker 10 (01:20:01):
In the Nigerian Soccer Premier League, the Shooting Stars are
taking on the Plateau United today at nine thirty a
and Pacific Standard time. The Shooting Stars are minus one
ninety while Plateau United is plus four seventy five.
Speaker 3 (01:20:14):
Andy, start with you.
Speaker 2 (01:20:15):
I love the Shooting Star. I know about this team.
I got the roster right in front of me. Really
that I got the Shooting Stars big time.
Speaker 4 (01:20:22):
All right, So the United is plus four to seventy five.
Speaker 5 (01:20:26):
Yeah, my god, okay, give them United.
Speaker 4 (01:20:30):
Jeez, you don't have a chance.
Speaker 2 (01:20:33):
You don't have a chance in this one.
Speaker 4 (01:20:34):
You really four seventy five playing right?
Speaker 2 (01:20:38):
I don't understand where you getting these teams and games from.
It's unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (01:20:42):
It was it was the better ones, all right?
Speaker 2 (01:20:45):
All right, Fox Football. So they continue to swollen. Dome
makes his appearance right here next.
Speaker 8 (01:20:52):
Great eggs, and welcome in another beautiful Fox Football Sunday.
Speaker 1 (01:20:57):
Ready to unfold what kind of surprise this is?
Speaker 8 (01:21:01):
Positively and curiosities are sitting under the tree for us
as we unwrap a bunch of new gifts that the
NFL will give us. Mike Carbon alongside Bucky Brooks Andy Furman,

Speaker 1 (01:21:45):
I'm fired up.
Speaker 8 (01:21:46):
We got another big day of action in for once
and we'll see if they can live up to it.
The Bears are in primetime, Bucky Brooks at Bucky Brooks
where you find him, read him NFL dot com. Years
in the league working over there in Jack's am I
unwrapping a beautiful present?
Speaker 1 (01:22:03):
Or is it something out of the nightmare before Christmas?
Speaker 5 (01:22:06):
That's not a nightmare before Christmas. I think you're unwrapping
a gift card. So it's nice that you got something,
but you just don't know how to spend it yet.
Speaker 4 (01:22:16):
Oh that's so, that's the Caleb Williams experience.
Speaker 1 (01:22:19):
There you go. That's a good analogy.
Speaker 8 (01:22:21):
One of the things we've been tracking along the way, guys,
is the state of Florida. And no, I'm not going
political here or weather or any of the crazy videos
that you see of Florida. Man, you all know you
watch them religiously and you wait for the next loop
to come up. Now, the state of Florida football and yes,
you know, the South Florida Bulls got a big win
(01:22:44):
over Southern miss so they're two in one.
Speaker 1 (01:22:46):
Okay, fine, the U is at.
Speaker 8 (01:22:48):
Three and oh but in Florida for the Gators, they're
already having a Board of Regions meeting and getting all
the boosters together to say, hey, what's going on over here?
Florida State. Get this fellas it is September fifteenth. If
you bet them on the under for their win total
for the year, you can already go to the sportsbook
and say, gay me by money. After another big loss,
(01:23:13):
Bucky will get deeper into therapy for the Jags. I
don't know if you heard Jason Smith's commentary about one
Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 4 (01:23:20):
Trevor Lawrence, Yes, I did.
Speaker 8 (01:23:23):
It cut off me kind of disagreeing and trying to
break down a little bit more of what I'm seeing.
But you know, hot takeery is there, and I don't
know that he said anything horribly inaccurate in terms of
where Trevor Lawrence would rank, but in terms of down
distance and circumstance, maybe a little bit more there. And
(01:23:44):
then obviously we've been talking a lot about the Dolphins
win Week one over the Jags, and then this week
with Tuwa Tongue Vailoa and now a lot of hand
ringing and wondering what happens next, you know, with Skylar
Thompson being under center and having all that talent. I know,
you guys got into some of the Tyreek Hill as
well as the two of Breakdown a little bit earlier.
(01:24:05):
But the state of Florida already teetering. So I got
to ask you, guys after one week of the NFL season,
you know, when you sat down and rested your weary head,
saying what have I seen? What do I think I
know out of all of this? Was there something that
truly just shocked you? Coming out of Week one? Andy
will start with you.
Speaker 2 (01:24:22):
Yeah, the New England pagerspinning the Cincinnati Bengals. This is
a team everybody's talking, you know, and obviously the media,
national as well as local, is saying it's a super
Bowl team. I keep on scratching him. I said, hey, fellas,
don't you and women too? Of course, don't you realize
this is a team that didn't even make the playoffs
last year and they're saying they're a super Bowl team.
Speaker 8 (01:24:41):
Come on, really, well, Andy, I mean one thing that
we do have to recognize. And maybe Bucky you could
speak to this Zach Taylor one in ten and week
one and two of his NFL tenure here and he
gets a gift. We'll break the game out down in
earnest a little bit here on the show, going up
against Kansas City. Why he's so bad to start a season, Well.
Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
Exactly, you're not playing the regulars, but you know what,
there's anybody else. I mean, that's the excuse. I mean, well,
you guess have played the regular so what no one
plays the regulars, so there's something missing there. To get
a kickstart for the season, you gotta get up to
a fast start. And they promised everybody we're gonna get
into a fast start this year. They lose today to
Kansas City, and I think they probably will either. Going
to oh and two right now doesn't do that doesn't
(01:25:24):
bode well for not only playing in the playoffs postseason,
but confidence wise as well.
Speaker 5 (01:25:32):
Look, oh and two push your odds of not making
the playoffs. If you go back, historically, teams that start
owing to two like the odds are down in terms
of them bouncing back and making it.
Speaker 4 (01:25:40):
And now it's happened.
Speaker 5 (01:25:41):
We've seen the Cincinnati Bingals be able to do it,
but it just makes you climb uphel uh the entire season.
Speaker 4 (01:25:47):
It's early, but man, it gets it gets late early.
Speaker 8 (01:25:51):
I mean when only two of these two of the
twenty three teams that started oh and two since twenty
twenty one had made the playoffs, the twenty twenty three
Techs and well the twenty twenty two Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 1 (01:26:02):
So there is some hope for you there.
Speaker 2 (01:26:04):
You know what happens in your own two You get
a tight end. And I'm not talking about the tight
end position of football. You get a real tight end.
That's what happens, right boll.
Speaker 4 (01:26:13):
It gets really tight for you, Yes it does. It
does get a little tight.
Speaker 5 (01:26:17):
It is hard to overcome that because now the pressure
jumps on you and you're only in the second week
of the season.
Speaker 4 (01:26:23):
It is doable.
Speaker 5 (01:26:24):
Seventeen game season, you have a lot of time, but
the pressure only escalates.
Speaker 8 (01:26:28):
I celebrate the greatness that is Ramandra Stevens, and we
knew they'd have a good defense with New England.
Speaker 1 (01:26:33):
I think we all stipulated that. But that was the largest.
Speaker 8 (01:26:35):
Point spread of Week one, even with all questions surrounding
the wide receiver position. Jamar Chase plays T Higgins, doesn't
Joe Burrow. We've got water Bottlegate, Andy, can you shed
any light on water Bottlegate?
Speaker 2 (01:26:49):
The people are crazy. I mean, I don't understand that.
I mean they asked the question. Look, I will tell
you right here and now. He is not one hundred percent.
And he even admitted that. He says in the press
conference this week, getting better every week. So translate that,
what does that mean? It means I'm not one hundred percent.
I'm getting better every week. He feels stronger every week.
It's a very technical operation that he had with the wrist.
(01:27:10):
The wrist is we think it it's not like breaking
a bone in your foot. We could just you know,
correct one bone, the acl whatever it may be, shoulder back,
whatever it might be. This is the wrist. There's millions
of little bones in there and they're flexing all the time,
and you get hit all the time with that. So
it's a tough injury. And you know what, if you
watch his throws, he didn't go deep last week and
(01:27:31):
there wasn't much of a tight spiral on those throws,
So maybe there is a problem there.
Speaker 8 (01:27:35):
Yeah, as a premier athlete that I am. I'm two
years removed from a broken wrist and I'm still not recovered.
But Bucky Brooks that to say, you know Burrow and
the questions there surprised for you out of Week one,
that really open your eyes either a team that flopped
or won that maybe we got to take a little
more seriously and that we're waiting on week two to
(01:27:56):
validate those first suspicions.
Speaker 4 (01:28:00):
Baker Mayfield and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Speaker 5 (01:28:02):
I know people dismiss it because of the Washington Commanders
and those things, but when you look at what they
were able to do. Baker Mayfield completed eighty percent of
his passes. Look the big three, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin,
Rashad White, they went bananas. Nineteen of those twenty three
receptions went to those guys. If they are able to
(01:28:23):
have that kind of production and operate efficiently on offense,
it compliments a defense that's pretty nasty when it comes
to their blitz rate and how they create disruption. Tamp
Bay Buccaneers might be a better team than we thought.
A lot of the love in the preseason went to
the Atlanta Falcons, in terms of that division. But after
Week one, Tampa Bay and the New Orland sayings, So
(01:28:43):
the two teams that really caught my.
Speaker 8 (01:28:44):
They also have a guy named Bucky there and Bucky
Irving nine carries sixty two yards and go wrong. But see,
that's what I was going to say, right, it's just
emulating greatness along the way.
Speaker 1 (01:28:54):
Is it possible, like we do this? Maybe?
Speaker 3 (01:28:58):
And I do it?
Speaker 8 (01:28:59):
And I said this with a little bit of caution.
When we look at quarterbacks, why guys get a second shot?
Why guys you know, as they bounce a little bit
when they've left Cleveland or the Jets or some of
these squads that you know, they get a second look
to say, all right, was it the organization versus them?
And obviously had a stopover in San Francisco along the way,
(01:29:22):
so you know, maybe some coaching that opened the eyes
before Dave Canalis got him last year. But is Baker
another one of those great examples of all right, get
him out of there, because we've got Geno Smith. It
took a decade, but he finally got the Jets on him.
Speaker 5 (01:29:37):
Yeah, look a lot of times and this goes from
Ron Wolf when he was with the Green Bay pack
is in as part of an old Al Davis Raiders philosophy.
Speaker 4 (01:29:46):
There's a reason why I played.
Speaker 5 (01:29:47):
Was a first round pick, and what you want to
do is when someone is drafted in the first round,
particularly a quarterback, you want to kick the tires. New environment,
new scheme, new voices can produce better results. And a
guy who was a talented We talked about Baker Mayfield,
a guy who's talented enough to be.
Speaker 4 (01:30:04):
The number one overall pick.
Speaker 5 (01:30:06):
The league thought he was talented, so now it's about
let's see if we can find the right things to
do with him to unlock that talent. It took Baker
going on an odyssey to find the right spot. The
right spot originally was LA because we saw in that
scheme that he could be pretty good.
Speaker 4 (01:30:23):
He then goes to Tampa.
Speaker 5 (01:30:25):
Dave Canalis ran a similar version of what they were
doing in La. Liam Cohen is now down in Tampa
offense coordinator. He had spent time with the Rams, so
it's all the same. But that's what it is is
trying to find the marriage that's right for you when
it comes to scheme and player. When that happens for
the quarterback, that's when the magic starts to happen. That's
(01:30:45):
what we're saying with Baker Mayfield. We also saw with
Geno Smith up in Seattle.
Speaker 1 (01:30:49):
That's it. I gave him the wrong wizard.
Speaker 8 (01:30:51):
Thanks for the check there, obviously, to stop over in
the Rams versus Shannon, because the forty nine ers have
been on our brains a lot this week as well.
Hand of the running back position, Jordan Mason the big
week and now McCaffrey did the ir But you know, Andy,
you know, let's.
Speaker 1 (01:31:07):
Why don't we just go to the game. Let's go
to it. Mark just hit the sounder three and there
we had it. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:31:15):
Well, I mean we got to rip the band aid
off because then we can get back to positive, you know,
reinforcement of Andy's world here Kansas City six point favorites
forty eight is the total. No t Higgins chases there,
you've got two men in the backfield trying to split time.
Speaker 1 (01:31:31):
Make it over.
Speaker 8 (01:31:32):
The big concerning thing for me, though, Andy was just
the Stevenson side of things and just getting run over.
It was like the Jets against San Francisco. You sure,
huge opportunity and big spotlight kind of thing in that game,
but just being run over that same way and getting
punched in the mouth repeatedly, sometimes hard to get off
(01:31:52):
the mat.
Speaker 1 (01:31:52):
And you get the Chiefs here in week two.
Speaker 2 (01:31:54):
They can't stop the run. They couldn't stop the run
last year. They can't stop the run this year of
Cincinati Bengals. But you, I'll tell you something, you know,
I saw Jamar Chase on TV earlier this week saying
that they are the team to be, which you know,
he's got to have his head examined to say that
the team to be. But again, it's a confidence thing.
And look, Marvin Lewis has always said I see better
than I hear. But what he has done, what Jamar
Chase has done by doing that with the bullet and
(01:32:16):
ball material for the Kansas City Chiefs, he made this
game a must see TV game he created. I mean,
obviously he has been a great rivalry anyway over the
last several years. But an to one Bengals team coming
off a terrible loss to New England against Kansas City
normally would say, well, you know, I think the Chiefs
are going to roll over him. Now, with Jamar Chase
and what he's done with his comments, it's made this
game a must see TV game, very similar to what
(01:32:39):
Colorado what Colorado State does when Deon Sanders coaches to
unranked college teams. But I watched that game because of
Deion Sanders and what he has done with that rivalry.
Speaker 4 (01:32:51):
Yeah, no, this is a mussy game.
Speaker 5 (01:32:54):
It's a very interesting game, uh, for the Kansa City
Chiefs because.
Speaker 4 (01:33:00):
Look, man, there's no denying.
Speaker 5 (01:33:02):
That the Bengals have dominated Kansas City down there.
Speaker 4 (01:33:06):
Burroughhead Stadium is whatever.
Speaker 1 (01:33:09):
Yeah, Boughead has.
Speaker 5 (01:33:11):
To kind of just sit in the crawl of Pat
Mahomes to know that at one point Joe Burrow owned him,
and so that's always a motivating factor. But for the Bengals,
there's some confidence knowing that you can go to that
stadium and win.
Speaker 1 (01:33:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:33:24):
Some of it for Kansas City, right is now you
get into the Michael Jordan phase of things and not
to do the direct goat kind of thing and those conversations,
but it's you've got two in a row, and you know,
people immediately try to dismiss it and you know, change
it up of hey, they'll be figured out again. Owing
to some conversations and arguments with my god Jason Smith
during the week is as long as fifteen's upright, I
(01:33:48):
feel pretty good about my chances against any squad. So
your point, you know, historically Cincinnati's played them well in January.
Speaker 1 (01:33:55):
Here's the thing.
Speaker 8 (01:33:56):
They've got to get off the mat and figure it out.
Whether Joe Burrow's got to go in and make some
demands of ownership there, Andy Furman, whether you need to
write a letter a day and then too, like you're
Andy Dufrain and Shawshank. Something's got to change there to
get them rolling. Otherwise, this is a beautiful September game,
but the larger consequence is that it's sending Cincinnati to
(01:34:20):
an early NFL grave.
Speaker 2 (01:34:22):
Let me check in with Bucket Brooks, because buckets the
football exper he really is. I love Bucket Brooks's take
on this. If you watched the film last week of
Joe Burrow, obviously he didn't go along. Maybe he can't
throw a long, maybe the guys will color. I don't know.
He just he has a problem right now. We seek
we think he's so. If I'm Kansas City and the
defense right now, I'm gonna put so much pressure on him.
(01:34:43):
Say prove it to me that you could throw along
that's what they're gonna do. They're gonna give it to him,
aren't they in the defense to say, you gotta show
us that you can throw the fall throw the long ball.
And that's the key right now. I think Kansas City
has it all over him. Right now. They got that
dominance in defense. What they're going to do to Joe
Burrow today.
Speaker 5 (01:35:04):
Yeah, I mean, look, I think that is something that
you have to see. They're gonna squat on them. They're
gonna play a lot of Mandy Man coverage on them
and kind of see if those guys can get open
and if he doesn't have his full confident weapons. No
t Higgins, Jamar Chase kind of moping and pouting the
route about his contract. It's a different Cincinnati team. They're
not as explosive. It's gonna be a tough one for
(01:35:25):
Joe Burrow. Could be some tough sledding down the scent and.
Speaker 4 (01:35:27):
See this is in the city.
Speaker 8 (01:35:28):
That unfortunate intersection of the business of football and playing
football is really rearing its head here. As we watched,
San Francisco got their guys paid while Brandon Ayuk Peyton
manning about blue with gask and I don't know if
you saw the video that way you dropped.
Speaker 4 (01:35:44):
That touchdown, he dropped the pass.
Speaker 8 (01:35:46):
I don't think i've seen Peyton that mad since Mike
Vanderjack calling him an idiot kick right like he went
off like you can just see, like wow, that really
infuriated you that he dropped that touchdown pass and for
a lot of fantasy owners as well. But we all know,
as long as that offensive line and Trent Williams in place,
the beat goes on right at least to some degree,
(01:36:09):
you plug and play along the way from there. For
Cincinnati right now, Joe Burrow needs his weapons. Yeah, a
full slate of clean health would be nice, but you know,
first and foremost guys got to be concentrated on football,
and clearly that is not the case right now. He's
Andy Furman at Andy Furman FSR. Where you find him,
find Bucky over at Bucky Brooks. You can find me
(01:36:30):
at Swollen Dome. Sweet teaser, or I watch a Flex
podcast yelling session that we do we got the word
that they wanted clearance for Jordan Love take that Dan
and I had that may show up in the pregame show.
So a familiar voice yelling at you then I'm sure
we'll get eviscerated by all the experts there. But tune
in on Fox a little bit later on this morning.
(01:36:51):
Shameless plug number one of the day as we roll
on a few more games to get into and the
state of the league as all after week one. Because
there is a stat and I know you referenced it, Andy,
we'll give it a little more specificity and.
Speaker 1 (01:37:06):
Talk it out next here on Fox Sports Radio.

after we get off the air at Andy Furman FSR
at Bucky Brooks find me over at Swollen Dome and gentlemen,
(01:38:10):
I heard you talking a little bit about run pass
and those decisions being made across NFL locker rooms and
coaching staffs and trying to push the envelope. In Week one,
you know, for the fifth time since the merger nineteen seventy,
we had more rushing touchdowns than passing touchdowns in Week one.
(01:38:31):
One of the things that came out of that is,
you know, that lowest touchdown total since two thousand and seven.
From the passing side, only two players eclipsed three hundred
passing yards. Last week. Now we only had six guys
go over the century mark on the run game. But
you know, some of it maybe the preseason, maybe a
shift of emphasis. Andy Furman, I'm like you, three yards
(01:38:53):
and a cloud of dust, Yes, please.
Speaker 2 (01:38:55):
Yeah. Well, I mean Jim Howboy, He's brought that back
to the National Football League. I mean last week he
did that with no turnovers with charges as well. So
you know, I think that and Bucky Brooks has said
this all the time, and you have to have a
run game to be successful in the National Football League,
no matter how good your quarterback may be, because you
want to get a lead, you want to sit on
that lead, you want to move the chains and run
(01:39:17):
out the clock. And that's what they're doing. Look, look,
I mean the proof is of the pudding. Look at
the New York Giants, say Kwon Barkley was sixty five
percent of their offense last year. They dump him, they
get rid of him, let them go to Philadelphia team
in their own division. And now the Giants did That're
going down for the third count. I mean, come on,
they can't win. Need a run game.
Speaker 4 (01:39:42):
Yeah, they do need a run game. It is bad.
Speaker 5 (01:39:46):
They made a situation worse by letting twenty six out
the building and now everything is about the quarterback, and
the quarterback isn't good enough. So they got to figure
out a way to mask the quarterbacks deficiencies while still
putting themselves in a position to win games.
Speaker 4 (01:40:00):
Look, this is gonna be a coaching thing.
Speaker 5 (01:40:01):
It's gonna be where the coaches have to figure out
what is the best thing that we can do to
give us a chance to win in the fourth quarter.
And so it's gonna require them to revamp their thinking
and then have to keep it super simple, super basic.
Speaker 8 (01:40:13):
Yeah, giants become one of the I guess the post
your children when we look at this as to what
can go awry quickly. Devin Singletary now your lead man
there and Daniel Jones becomes emblematic of where we're at
in quarterback play across the NFL. I don't think some
of the return to a run game shortened the clock. Obviously,
you keep guys like Patrick Mahomes on the sidelines. If
you're able to do that, right, can ball control, ground control,
(01:40:37):
fewer opportunities for turnovers? And the fact of the matter
is that you're able to protect and hide the deficiencies
of young quarterbacks or middling quarterbacks that you're running out.
Speaker 1 (01:40:47):
There, because how many great quarterbacks do we have?
Speaker 2 (01:40:51):
Right? How did New England beat the Bengals this week?
They ran the football, They beat them up well how
did the Charges win the game with JK. Dobbins one
to thirty five yards? They ran the football. Look at
the teams that won last week and they ran the football.
Speaker 8 (01:41:04):
Two big runs by Dobbins take up a bunch of it.
But it is the point behind those those big tackles.
And I got to say, you know, for all these
awards they give out for rookies or whatever, the fact
that Alt's name didn't appear on any of those lists. Bucky,
I'm making a case for the big uglies to get
some love in this business for what he was able
to do against Max Crosby.
Speaker 1 (01:41:26):
Yeah right, I mean he neutralized him.
Speaker 4 (01:41:29):
Yeah, he deserves some love.
Speaker 5 (01:41:31):
He deserves a lot of credit for what he was
able to do, like rookie right out the gate, being
able to play a new position, remember because he was
a left tackle at Notre Dame plays right tackle for
the Charges.
Speaker 4 (01:41:41):
Did a really good job out the gate.
Speaker 5 (01:41:43):
And then how about the Charges just to side and
a man in the second half, we just going donkey
kick then by running the football over and over and
over gave with JK.
Speaker 4 (01:41:51):
Dobbins having a spectacular second half.
Speaker 8 (01:41:53):
Hey man, you use him as judiciously as you can early.
I think we see more guts edwards today because they
need both of these guys health if they want to
play harball bully ball throughout a season. But you see
the move Harbaugh did, though, and you'd appreciate this this, Andy,
I know you have some correspondence with Harbaugh. He was
walking around. He actually found the same gym shoes that
Justin Herbert wears, and he decided he was going to
(01:42:14):
walk a mile in the man's shoes.
Speaker 1 (01:42:16):
The best.
Speaker 2 (01:42:17):
He's the best, he really is. Hey, don't forget Joe
Mixon too.
Speaker 1 (01:42:20):
No, but there, how about that one? How does that
feel for you over there?
Speaker 2 (01:42:23):
Andy? Right? Joe Mixon, I mean, not one of my
favorite guys, but they gonna miss him. And they do
miss him, you know, they really do miss him. They
they don't have a strong running game yet. They might
we'll see what happen with Zach Moss, but they don't
have that running game. You need to get a run game.
Speaker 8 (01:42:36):
Yeah, Zach Moss, Chase Brown, Joe Mixon, that form of
Joe Mixon that was running for the Texans a week
ago sure would have made things a lot easier for
Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. There a little balance
and definition. That's what Arnold Schwarzenegger preached back in the
nineteen seventy seven Classic Pumping Iron. Always work for balance
and definition. Next on the games, Bear's a text say
(01:43:00):
why don't we just go here? Let's get after it.
The Bears Caleb Williams ninety three passing yards, O Dudnza
and Keenan Allen.
Speaker 1 (01:43:08):
We get through the NFL loophole.
Speaker 8 (01:43:09):
I don't have to tell you what I'm doing with
my guys yet because I could say game time decision
and bleed.
Speaker 1 (01:43:15):
It all the way till the clock strikes zero.
Speaker 8 (01:43:18):
The run game horribly inefficient, the offense on early downs
horribly predictable. Keenan Allen did have a drop in the
end zone. You know you might as well picture put
that up in the louver, because you know that's something
I don't think you've seen so historic kind of stuff
in a week one. But the defense special teams, you
got a good kicker, you got the punter out of Iowa,
(01:43:40):
and you got an opportunistic defense that they're getting after
it trying to make life difficult for CJ. Stroud and
the aforementioned new acquisitions of Joe Mixon and Stefan Diggs,
who for at least one week, Guys, everything was right
with the world. Six for six, two touchdowns and a
huge game in that week, one win for Houston. As
(01:44:00):
we look at the board for this one, Houston a
six and a half point favorite. Forty five and a
half is the total, Bucky, We'll start with you.
Speaker 4 (01:44:11):
Give me it again? What is it?
Speaker 8 (01:44:14):
Line is six and a half, So just inside that
key number of seven, forty five and a half is
the total. Can the Bears offense get off the mat?
Speaker 4 (01:44:24):
Ooh no, give me Houston. Houston's really good.
Speaker 5 (01:44:27):
And look, I know everyone up in Buffalo is talking about, oh,
we're so much better with el Stefan Diggs.
Speaker 4 (01:44:31):
I don't know if anyone saw what Stephan Diggs did
his debut with the Texans. Two touchdowns.
Speaker 5 (01:44:35):
And then you think about Nico Collins going for one
hundred tank deal also getting a piece of it, Joe
Mixon having one hundred and fifty nine yards. That is
a lot to deal with with Chicago Bears. I love
the grittiness and the effort of the Bears, but if
their quarterback produces less than one hundred yards then not
gonna win.
Speaker 4 (01:44:50):
Give me the Texans.
Speaker 2 (01:44:51):
Uh huh, huh. You know Swollen, I hate doing this too.
Speaker 1 (01:44:56):
No, you can do it. Kick me in the face, baby,
let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
It's quite simple that Houston Texans are more complete. They're
more complete team than the Chicago Bears right now. But
let's look at the defense right now. Houston was leaning
on Joe Mixing the running back in the opening game
last week against Chicago. Last week, Tony Pollard from the
Titans gave a run for eighty two yards against their defense.
I mean, I gotta believe that they're gonna go with
(01:45:21):
the ground game again. The Texans will against the Bears today.
That's the key right there. That's what I'm doing. If
I'm the offensive coordinator, I'm gonna have Mixing with the
ball in his belly and run against the Bears and
see if they could stop them. And as far as
the Bears are concerned, their running game was pathetic. Will
with Swift and Herbert last week? What do they do?
They didn't do anything. So I think that the Bears
right now could be in a bit of trouble. You
(01:45:42):
gotta protect obviously, Caleb Williams, He's got to know he's
got to lean on that run game to take some
pressure off himself. But I just think that the Houston
Texans are a more complete team than the Chicago Bears,
at least right now.
Speaker 8 (01:45:53):
Would have loved this matchup come week twelve. So we
have a little more baked in the oven, as you
like to say, bucket, we'd have a more finished product,
wouldn't be so, I don't know, like a deep dish
Chicago pizza. You don't cook it enough, it's not gonna
work right Kevin Fishbay and Athletic covering the Bears. Bears
have lost nine straight Sunday night football games on the
(01:46:15):
road in a row, the last win ten years ago
this weekend, when they came back from seventeen down to
beat the forty nine Ers. Last Sunday night football win
December of twenty eighteen against the Rams.
Speaker 1 (01:46:27):
Here you go, America.
Speaker 2 (01:46:29):
No wait a minute, list, let me run bit. Bucky
played the game. He had do it for one dude?
Do coaches actually bring that up in a locker room game?
That doesn't mean any those stats, it's father, it means nothing,
because ten years ago, if those guys are in mental institutions,
right now, Really, come on ten years ago. It doesn't
mean anything. I mean, I don't even know why people
(01:46:50):
use those steps, and they'll use them on TV tonight,
I know they will. Oh, they can't win on TV.
Everything is a clean slate, isn't that right? Every week
is a clean slate. Every Sunday it starts a new
doesn't it buck It really does.
Speaker 6 (01:47:03):
I mean it does, but it doesn't because more it
depends on if you believe in momentum or not. If
you believe and think there's certain things that you know
to be true, Like there's certain things like there was
a long time where the Indianapolis Coast whenever they played
the Jaguars and Jacksonville they could not beat them. They
cannot beat them, And so there's something about when they
show up, like, no matter what it is, sometimes you
(01:47:26):
can have that woe with me feeling. And it's not
just necessarily the players, but there's an angst that permeates
the field when you have a thing like let's think
about Mike and he understands just the Cubs when they
had to curse right the goat, you know.
Speaker 8 (01:47:43):
Like and so Tavern and everything.
Speaker 4 (01:47:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:47:47):
Yeah, so it's not necessarily that it exists. But man,
when things start going a ride and you're like, man,
are we really cursed?
Speaker 4 (01:47:55):
And so all it takes is just that little thing.
Speaker 5 (01:47:57):
So no, you don't talk about like, hey, guys, we
haven't one in fifteen years on primetime, but people know
because we all read and we all see in Twitter
and all that other stuff, so subconstantly it can kind
of sit back there.
Speaker 1 (01:48:08):
Yeah, I went to a little bit of fun fact.
Speaker 8 (01:48:10):
But staying in Chicago, go back to the Cubs, right,
a guy in their shortstop who was a normally sure
handed guy. I think he was right up there for
the gold glove suddenly can't feeld a routine ground ball,
all the Bartman stuff, right, yeah, no, no, but like
you know, yeah, the moise's a loop play down, you know, empartment,
and then you have a ground ball. Mark Pryor starts
(01:48:32):
jumping up and down like he's a five year old
who didn't get dessert, and all of a sudden it
unravels and you lose. And that's exactly what happened to,
you know, to that Cubs thing. I just remember they
were leading. I went into a class. I was doing
my evening MBA program so I worked. I listened to
a little bit on the way over to the class
I'm like, Ah, they're gonna win.
Speaker 1 (01:48:52):
Okay, there we go. That'll be the big thing coming out.
Speaker 8 (01:48:55):
And then I got in the car right as all
of that unfolded, and I'm sitting there and I was
like ray Leona during the Luftanza announcement on the radio
when he's in the shower, you like, because I'm a
white Sox fan and I hate the Cubs, So for
that to go down was to me.
Speaker 1 (01:49:14):
Just such a glorious, glorious moment.
Speaker 8 (01:49:16):
But you know, take it back to the NFL for
one statistical guy, and we've watched it Captain Kirk Cousins
if he's not in the one pm window, right, and
that is one that is now of lore and we'll
get to see it, you know, in Atlanta a bunch
over the course of the year. But he's always been
seen as a one o'clock guy, and that starts to permeate, right,
I mean, it starts to build player trying to press
(01:49:39):
maybe a little bit, knowing their history and knowing the
narratives that are there, that the poison pen columns and
do you know this, you love newspapers. Those guys have
those things written. They just need to fill in the stacks.
Speaker 2 (01:49:50):
You're right, there's like obituary columns, right, they're there. They
just wait for the guy to die.
Speaker 1 (01:49:55):
Really and that's it.
Speaker 8 (01:49:57):
Wow, Now we got Captain Kirk Cousins looking for a
light here.
Speaker 2 (01:50:02):
Let me tell you about Kirka. He's got bigger problems
to worry about one o'clock stunting times.
Speaker 8 (01:50:06):
Oh no, you're a hundred percent correct. We'll pick that game.
We'll talk about the Falcons here coming up in just
a minute. But you know what we need to do first,
We got to figure out who's in who's out on
the big slate here in week two of your National
Football League season one game in the books, all of
it coming up. Kevin Wiert's got your answers as he
peruses the web for the latest. Yeah, we got several
(01:50:28):
injury updates. Adam Schefter and Ian Rappaporta working the Midnight
Oil to give us these updates.
Speaker 1 (01:50:34):
And one of them is Puka Nakua.
Speaker 8 (01:50:36):
He heard his MCL as actually his PCL during the
Sunday night game against the Lions. The Rams receiver now
expected to be out five to seven weeks according to Schefter,
so he's already been put on injured reserve and we'll
be out longer than the minimum of four games, it appears.
Other news regarding NFL wide receivers, Josh Palmer is questionable
(01:50:58):
but is expected to play against the Panthers. Lions wide
out Jamison Williams expected to play against the Buccaneers. He's
questionable with an ankle injury, but Tie Higgins already listed
as doubtful and is not expected to take the field
against the Chiefs. As for the Bears, Keenan Allen and
Romeo Dounza game time decisions for the Sunday night game
against the Texans. Alan will test it pregame and if
(01:51:21):
he does play, he'll be used more sparingly. O'doonzay is
expected to play against the Texans, and Ian Rappaport with
a bunch of updates. Marshawn Lattimore, the Saints corner, is
questionable with hip and hamsterring issues. Is pushing to play,
but the team is being cautious. They will work them
out this morning to see if he will be good
to go. Colts wide receiver Josh Downs dealing with the
(01:51:42):
high ankle sprain is considered a fifty to fifty proposition
on whether he will suit up today. He did practice
fully though on Friday, but the team does want to
be sure that he has zero issues before they send
him out there. Packards wide receiver Jaden Reid is questionable
the calf and shin injury, but is expected to play today.
And Ravens linebacker Kyle van Ney has a fractured orbital
(01:52:05):
bone and he's gonna see how he feels this morning,
but he is optimistic that he will be able to play.
Adam Schefter with another injury update from last night, saying
that Hollywood Brown is expected to miss the rest of
the twenty twenty four season. The Chiefs had been possibly
are talking about possibly having him come back after maybe
(01:52:26):
Week three week four, but according to Schefter, Brown is
gonna be out for the twenty twenty four regular season.
And Schefter last night also saying that Jamar Chase not
gonna negotiate a long term deal this season with the
Cincinnati Bengals. He feels that the team misled him in
contract negotiations. Back to you guys, a lot of fun
(01:52:46):
stuff there, big injury news and notes. Thanks Kevin, appreciate you.
As we continue here Fox Football Sunday, Fox Sports Radio
from the tire rack dot Com studios, Mike Carmon alongside
Andy Furman Bucky Brooks. We have three more games we
need to get to and the Rams will lead us off.
As we continue here on Fox, Rams said, Cardinals, all right,
(01:53:07):
so we've got the Rams. As we look at what
they're bringing to the table. You have the Pukin Nikua
injury and now five to seven weeks and that becomes
a wishing and hoping because, well, let's face it, we're
into an NFL season. In any arguments of you know,
the team will get healthy along the way. I always
wait for the other shoe to drop. Maybe that's the
(01:53:30):
upbringing of the negativity and the potential for that fire
and brimstone coming down the line. Arizona narrow one point,
favorite forty eighth the total you guys are talking about it.
Marvin Harrison Junior, he had an early drop and then
well we didn't see much of him after that. For
the Cardinals, James Connor the sledge hammer, and on the
(01:53:50):
other side for the Rams, Kyron Williams, we didn't see
a lot of Blake Korum last week. I gotta wonder
with Nikoua out, even if you have a huge target
total for Cooper Cup that the run game starts to
factor in a little more for Sean McVay. So Matthew
Stafford's not back there as a sitting duck again one
of the two quarterbacks over three hundred yards in week one.
Andy Furman, you want to pick this one?
Speaker 2 (01:54:12):
Yeah, it is an easy one because obviously Pooka's out
la the offensive line. They got to got healthy right there.
I think this game easily comes down to the quarterback
and quarterback play. And I take Kyler Murray over Matthew
Stafford right now. And I'm taking the Cardinals. But I
want to see I want to see wide receiver Marvin
Harrison junior to fourth pick on the draft last year,
some more passes going his way, target him a little more.
(01:54:33):
Only three passes went his way last week. I believe
the Cardinals win this game.
Speaker 1 (01:54:39):
Roadge, what are you.
Speaker 4 (01:54:41):
Go with the Rams?
Speaker 5 (01:54:42):
I'm gonna go with the Rams right like like I
came with the Andy said Callum Murray over Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 4 (01:54:47):
Like what are we talking about? Like do we see
Matthew Stafford over.
Speaker 2 (01:54:50):
There well because of his line, because of his lack
of offensive line play. That's why I'm doing that today.
Speaker 4 (01:54:55):
He makes them better. He makes them better.
Speaker 5 (01:54:57):
This is going to be the Rams, and I'm gonna
go Rams and so I can laugh next week, talk
about it a laugher one that we will go to
sleep at halftime knowing that it's all over.
Speaker 2 (01:55:11):
Hey, Bud, I heard you so confident.
Speaker 1 (01:55:13):
That was a little bit of peacocking.
Speaker 8 (01:55:15):
I could just see him up in the studio walking
around holding the microphone like he's Christian Slater and put.
Speaker 2 (01:55:23):
That chest back in the shirts, will you please?
Speaker 8 (01:55:25):
Well, let me ask this one question for the fantasy
owners out there, Bucky. Would you play Tyler Johnson or
DeMarcus Robinson or is it because it Matthew Stafford and
Sean McVay you play both.
Speaker 4 (01:55:39):
I think you have to play because I know which
one is established.
Speaker 5 (01:55:41):
Tyler Johnson I like his sticky hands, But Matthew Stafford playing,
he's gonna find a way to do it.
Speaker 4 (01:55:46):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:55:46):
He's gonna walk it right to the wide receiver, put
it right in their chest. So yeah, I'll say you
can play both of them, don't don't get shot. Somebody's
going to go big because it can't be all Cooper
cup Nicoa creates opportunities. Putting Nicolah out creates opportunities for
others to step up and be a start.
Speaker 8 (01:55:59):
Now if he doesn't have to go and stay as
a pass protector too terribly much. Colby Parkinson a guy
starting to emerge for you guys desperate for a fantasy
tight end out there as well. He's Andy Furman. That's
Bucky Brooks on Mike Carmett. We've got a couple of
games to finish as we roll on here. It's Fox Sports,
Fox Football Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. Hey, welcome back
(01:56:20):
in Fox Sports Radio. It's Fox Football Sunday, Mike Carmen
alongside Andy Furman, Bucky Brooks at Andy Furman FSR.
Speaker 1 (01:56:27):
Where you find.
Speaker 8 (01:56:28):
Him at Bucky BROOKSREADHIMNFL dot Com, check it all out
under his id there. And of course I'm over at
Swollen Dome. If you got any fantasy questions you want
me to throw at dart with you, I'm happy to
do that as well.
Speaker 1 (01:56:40):
We got two games.
Speaker 8 (01:56:41):
Left to go on our slate, gentlemen, so let's dive
back in.
Speaker 2 (01:56:45):
Into Steelers and Broncos.
Speaker 8 (01:56:47):
All right, when we look at the Steelers last week.
Jay Glazer joined us earlier this week Smith and I,
and as we described the game, he goes, this was
the ideal Mike Tomlin game. Don't turn the ball over
field goals and then terrorize people on defense, expecting more
of the same today. Two and a half is the number.
Pittsburgh a road favorite at Denver, and bow nicks the
(01:57:10):
total on this one thirty six or thirty six and
a half, depending on where you're shopping. So I heard
the call on the Chargers Raiders game last week calling
it a rock fight. I don't even know if we
have rocks. I think we have sticks potentially in this one,
but a defensive battle with Justin Fields trying to strengthen
(01:57:31):
his hold.
Speaker 1 (01:57:31):
On that starting job. We'll start with you, Andy, what
do you think?
Speaker 2 (01:57:34):
Well, you said thirty six or the total? First of all,
I think that's high. This is gonna be a very
low scoring game. First of all, the Steelers have to
find the end zone. You can't rely on six field
goals to win a ball game. And also you can't
rely on the fat that list week they beat Atlanta
eighteen to ten, but they had to shut out in
the second half. Not going to shut them out again
the second half. I kind of like the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 3 (01:57:52):
I really do.
Speaker 2 (01:57:52):
Although they got to get their running game together, They
got to get Williams of mcgloka. They will held the
list of three yards to carry last week and that
puts a lot of pressure on the quarter at bone Knicks. However,
game in Denver, I like Denver low scoring game.
Speaker 8 (01:58:05):
Bone Knicks three point three yards per attempt a week ago. Bucky,
how do they press that?
Speaker 5 (01:58:12):
Look, man, I think he gets even worse because that
man TJ. Watt and the rest of the deal.
Speaker 1 (01:58:15):
He's a terror.
Speaker 5 (01:58:16):
As long as Justin Fields, as long as Justin Fields
doesn't turn it over, this team is going to be
there at the end. And I think he understands it.
I think Arthur Smith certainly understands what he has in
Justin Fields.
Speaker 4 (01:58:27):
He's gonna set him up for success.
Speaker 5 (01:58:29):
He only needs to make a handful of plays. That's
what I would tell Justin You only need to make
a handful of plays, whether it's a combination of three
with your legs and two with your arm, whatever that is.
You give us five big plays, we're gonna be able
to get it done. I think the still is get
it done against the Brocaby.
Speaker 1 (01:58:41):
Yeah, i'llaned to take them on the road as well.
Speaker 8 (01:58:43):
I love the shot chart from last week, though, Andy
everything to the outside, and to those that wanted to
be detractors about it, I say, why put the ball
in harm's way. Your whole job is to play keep
away if you're justin fields, and he did a good
job of it, at least for one week. We'll see
what happens, because everybody's waiting for Sean Payton to unlock
some past genius.
Speaker 1 (01:59:05):
All right, last game, Falcons at Egles.
Speaker 8 (01:59:07):
All right, here we go, Captain Kirk going up against
the Philadelphia Eagles. Is a Monday nighter. Eagles six and
a half point favorites, like Kansas City. It's been so
long since we watched them play, maybe we forgot. It
was a lot of the run in passed with Sakuon Barkley.
You had aj Brown had himself a big day would
have been bigger if he had better footing on that
stupid soccer field. Instead, it was an end zone interception
(01:59:30):
by Jai Yir. Alexander either way. Forty seven the total
Atlanta and Bjon Robinson. They were all the toast of
the town, Blucky. Can they get it done here on
the road?
Speaker 4 (01:59:42):
They got a step up, man.
Speaker 5 (01:59:43):
There's a lot of pressure on them, a lot of
people eyes on them to see the birds flay.
Speaker 4 (01:59:48):
It's gonna be tough, man. I just can't see them
going on the road and getting it done.
Speaker 5 (01:59:51):
I just I'm just not a believer after what I
saw last week, I just can't believe in them.
Speaker 4 (01:59:57):
I think they going one too.
Speaker 2 (01:59:59):
Yeah, Cousins was just really immobile last week and it
hurt their offense. Really had two interceptions last week. And look,
they've got Cousins there because they thought he's the guy
who's gonna make them win, like win now. And I
tell you what, they don't win now. He's gonna be
put on the bench. And you'll see Nicks coming in
there pretty good. Pennick, I'm sorry, Pennick coming in there
and playing quarterback. So I don't like it. I think
the Eagles went big. Eagles went big in this one.
Speaker 8 (02:00:21):
You hear that clock tick in its father time. It's
also the end of our hour here.
Speaker 1 (02:00:24):
Andy.
Speaker 8 (02:00:25):
We appreciate you peace of love at Andy Furman FSR.
Where you find him Bucky Brooks and I continue here
next on Fox Football Sunday Mentor coach analyst, A man
about town.
Speaker 1 (02:00:37):
He's Bucky Brooks. What's going out, Buddy Man?
Speaker 4 (02:00:40):
What's going on? Man?
Speaker 5 (02:00:40):
Just another football week, Week two, looking forward to seeing
what takes place.
Speaker 8 (02:00:45):
Yeah, it's got a chaotic run right off the jump,
Thursday Night Football. Some of the lamentation coming into the
game that I heard was, Wow, we got this one
so early. Right, It's a Thursday night, a big game
with potential huge playoff implications, and we didn't realize that
we'd have exactly go down what we did.
Speaker 4 (02:01:03):
Right.
Speaker 8 (02:01:03):
It's Bills and its Dolphins, and it's expectations. Bills trying
to maybe eliminate some of the conversation of what like
them coming into the ear right Stefon Diggs. Without him,
it's all going to fall apart because they got nobody.
And then on the other side for Miami, they've got
speed for days, they've got all these weapons, questions on
(02:01:24):
the old line, questions on defense, but a lot of
prognostications about how great they were going to be and
that tour was going to drive this engine with the
Miami vice looking Mike McDaniel this time around, and instead
we get the Tua injury. And on the other side
you got Buffalo trying to play a little bit of
bully ball at times, Bucky. Much like we've talked about
(02:01:46):
a little bit last hour with Andy, is you know,
the change of focus and distribution of how we're calling
plays and maybe running out offenses. Is that an early
season thing or do we think that that carries through
for a lot of these odds.
Speaker 5 (02:02:01):
Look at I think it's kind of like everyone feels
it out right because of the way.
Speaker 4 (02:02:06):
That we're kind of doing the preseason.
Speaker 5 (02:02:09):
Everyone is different, right, You don't get all of the things,
and so you have some of those things where people
are testing out new things. I think the first four
weeks of the season are a bit of an experimental phase, right.
We talked about the previous hour, how you don't want
to fall behind O two, but you're still trying to
figure your team out. I think as a good coach,
you're always kind of trying to figure out what's the
(02:02:30):
best way for me to play with this team that
I have right now, And sometimes the way that you
think you're going to play has to change because when
you start playing real games, you're like, yeah, that doesn't.
Speaker 4 (02:02:40):
Necessarily work for us.
Speaker 5 (02:02:41):
My job is to tweak it on the fly and
get my team a best chance to win.
Speaker 8 (02:02:45):
The other part, Nick cope with the updates now at
the desk, and you already have the laundry list of injuries, right,
we talked Sunday night football Bears and Texans already two
wide receivers on the injury list. And when I see
Keenan Allen's name on there with the heel. You saw
him come up and limping after a throw to the
end zone last week. He was already on the on
(02:03:06):
the report right, already had the red check mark. But
for for Bears fans, that was one of the cautionary
things of how much is he going to be able
to survive the soldier field turf uh and and and
the field there as kept up by the park district.
And in week one, we've got him, but we've got
so many others too. Is a headliner. McCaffrey's a headliner,
(02:03:27):
Jordan Love we'll get to in a minute, But like
we we just have a lot of scrambling already. You know,
as you're trying to formulate those first offensive sets in
terms of personnel and who's there who's not, not even
getting into all the contract situations of what's swirling in
some of these cities as well.
Speaker 4 (02:03:47):
Yeah, I mean, like the injuries certain play a part
of it.
Speaker 5 (02:03:51):
The contract stuff has been more annoying because I feel
like for some of the teams that are still dealing
with that, they could have headed that off. The CPA
is loaded with poison pills that prevent players from holding out,
and when you allow players to hold in, this is
some of the stuff that you have to deal with,
and it impacts the team no matter how you slice it.
Speaker 4 (02:04:10):
Like for instance, we'll talk about Cincinnati.
Speaker 5 (02:04:12):
And Jamar Chase and T Higgins because remember T Higgins
was upset about the franchise tag and those things, and
then he had the hamstring that happened four days before
they played. Even though he's come out and talked about,
I don't know why people are questioning the severity of
my injury. When you have these hold ins in these situations,
those questions become a distraction. If he's heard he's hurt,
(02:04:34):
but just because of the contract snafu or contentious nature
of the contract stuff.
Speaker 4 (02:04:40):
You're now having people.
Speaker 5 (02:04:42):
Who are questioning his integrity. And then with Jamar Chase,
it's the same thing. It's a game time decision whether
he's going to play because he had food poisoning and
a contract issue before the game. At some point, when
you're a coach, the thing that you're trying to avoid
it all costs distractions.
Speaker 4 (02:04:58):
You want everyone to be locked in focus. The contract
scenario has certainly done that. But the injuries, man, you
played through that.
Speaker 5 (02:05:04):
Everyone talks about next man up and those things, and
you don't want your best players to be out. But
that's a part of it. The contract stuff you have
more control over that. You got to nip that in
the butt right away.
Speaker 8 (02:05:13):
Yeah, I mean, you have a full off season to
do it, and we saw even at the eleventh hour
you can still get some things done in substantive matters,
right what we saw Dak Prescott. And part of that
is the theatricality of Jerry Jones and having the Fox
NFL Sunday crew right the number one crew with Brady
there for that game against Cleveland. But they make the
(02:05:34):
Presscott announcement and the team comes out and has a
resounding win, but again another situation that probably didn't need
to drag out as long as it did.
Speaker 1 (02:05:46):
Glad for Dak, Glad for the squad.
Speaker 8 (02:05:48):
I just want the best on the field, right, I
want the best product that we can come on and
talk about here Vox Sports Radio. And you know, Cincinnati
is the one where it's even more complicated because you've
got Burrow coming off as such a big injury, and
he doesn't have his two biggest weapons. Right you're talking
about throwing the rookies, and you've got a backfield that
(02:06:08):
doesn't have a guy like you did in Joe Mixon.
And again, whatever you think of Joe Mixon, Joe Mixon
can play football when he's healthy, as evidenced by what
he did in Houston a week ago. And suddenly you're
changing that part so you don't have the same level
of support and comfort and knowledge of that player, right
with what Burrow and he had established. And now you've
got your wide receivers. You know, perception becomes reality, whether
(02:06:31):
you're heard or not. You know, if all of this
is noise in the outside, people are going to raise
their hands and you cannot like it. But you got
to recognize the game you're playing. You know, it's not
all between the white lines.
Speaker 5 (02:06:45):
I mean, that is a big part of it, and
it's a really good observation. You're right, it's not all
between the white lines. You have to recognize and understand
what's going on with that, and so much of you know,
the National Football League about understanding how you can kind
of control the margins. Right, we talk about a league
that is one that's frequently decided about eight points or fewer. Well,
(02:07:08):
what can I do to ensure that we don't give
away points when it comes to that, Like sometimes it
doesn't have anything to do with what we're doing on
the field, But can I get my team to the
game focused on what we need to do? Can I
get my team to the game with the best players available?
Speaker 4 (02:07:27):
So understanding our practice.
Speaker 5 (02:07:28):
Happens, and the way that we have to go about
our business, not only in regular season practice, but in
training camp, all of these little issues that as a
head coach you're trying to juggle to make sure that
the best product that you can put on the field
is on the field. It's a lot to manage, and
the best coaches have kind of mastered the system It's
one of the reasons why the can City the Chiefs
run out to a fast start every year. Andy Reed
(02:07:50):
has been around long enough to be able to understand
it and do it. People give Mike Tomlin a lot
of criticism and a lot of trouble about Oh, you know,
he's he's never had a winning season, but but there's
something to learning how to win in the league. He's
one of the best regular season coaches that we've seen.
They have a recipe in a formula that works, and
(02:08:11):
you lean on those guys early in the year.
Speaker 8 (02:08:13):
Yeah, and that's always the question, right is you know
that line of demarcation and Tomlins probably the biggest example
of all this because we only have so many teams
that we can say they have a strong identity, a
strong culture, a system, a from the front office on
down where the continuity is there, so you have a
(02:08:34):
really good idea of what you're getting season to season.
Speaker 1 (02:08:38):
For other teams, it's a mix and match.
Speaker 8 (02:08:41):
And look, Cincinnati is a great example on the other
side of that of a team that from a personnel
standpoint and Zach Taylor and all of this that it
looked like, all right, this is a team that's going
to be hanging around and is going to be a
problem for a while. Well, injuries come into play, but
the business of football is also impacting exactly what they're
t to do as well. In Pittsburgh, you know, they
(02:09:03):
tried to make the big swing for Brandon Ayuk eleventh hour.
Glazer told the story on a podcast. You know that
Kyle Shanahan, You know, Ayuke shows up at the facility
while they're on the phone talking about it and coming
towards the final negotiations. But Ayuke shows up in the
building wanting to talk, so they're able to delay things. Hey,
we'll give us a minute, and a minute became two
(02:09:25):
and a half hours or something like that, and then
they were able to hammer out the final details of
an Auke deal right there on the spot, right basically
pulling out the old napkin kind of trick and going
to the details. But you know, organizationally, you have that
stability for the Chiefs. You have that stability the forty
nine ers, even with all some of the missteps I
want to say all the misteps, because that makes it
(02:09:46):
sounds like they miss a lot, but they've had some
pretty big swings and misses, but they've had an organization
that can absorb it. And that's really not the case
for many franchises in the league. Right the Lions are
starting to get there. You've got a couple others that
are rising up. But it's why Mike Tomblin, for all
the detractors, I think most fans would love to know
(02:10:08):
that each year they're at least playing meaningful football in December.
Speaker 5 (02:10:13):
Yeah, there's something to that, right because everyone talks about, yeah,
super Bowl success, but guess what we have discovered.
Speaker 4 (02:10:20):
You can't win a Super Bowl if you're not in
the tournament.
Speaker 5 (02:10:22):
And the only way to get into tournament is to
have really good regular seasons. And you can't ensure that
it's always going to be perfect when it comes to that,
but you certainly want to give your team the best
chance to be able to be there.
Speaker 4 (02:10:34):
And whether it's ten and seven, nine and eight, eleven and.
Speaker 5 (02:10:37):
Six, all you're trying to do is get a ticket
of a mission, because once you're dancing, everyone's dancing just
the same, and you have just as good of a
chance as the seven seed as the one seed, because
you're in Townland deserves credit for that. They need to
be better in the postseason acknowledging that. But I'm telling
you it's the debate that we frequently have and we've
talked about this. Would you read be the Miami slash
(02:11:01):
Florida Marlins or the Atlanta Braids. From the nineties through
to two thousands, the Braids were always the division winner.
The Marlins would go through these long droughts, but when
they went they went and won the World Series.
Speaker 4 (02:11:14):
And so what is it that you want?
Speaker 5 (02:11:16):
Do you want a team that is always good and
always has a shot or a team that disappears off
the radar, but then when they come back they may
have a shot.
Speaker 4 (02:11:24):
It's kind of like a lottery ticket.
Speaker 1 (02:11:26):
Yeah. I think that just gets down to what is
my definition of shot? Right?
Speaker 8 (02:11:30):
If my shot is I can eke into the playoffs,
but I know I'm a decided underdog all over the place,
that's problem. And I think if Mike Tomlins team's lost
in the playoffs with more style and panash, I don't
think the criticism would be as sharp, right if they're
going out and losing shootouts versus, to use the euphemism
of the week, the rock fight kind of mentality and
(02:11:53):
the style of play more akin to maybe an older
time maybe one that's going to be revisited here as
we talked about last with the running game and more
balance and definition to that in the passing game that maybe,
you know, you'd have a little bit different even though
he hadn't won in the postseason, if they're losing thirty
eight thirty five, there's at least fight, an excitement and
(02:12:16):
a style of football that people like versus all right,
we're going to grind it out, kick field goals and
the defense is going to need to make a play
for us. You know, in a twenty seventeen game, I
think if there was more shootouts from Mike Tomlin, maybe
that narrative on the postseason's a bit different.
Speaker 5 (02:12:34):
Yeah, now, I think there's something to that, right. Style
points Style, points matter when we are looking at games.
Speaker 4 (02:12:43):
We are a.
Speaker 5 (02:12:44):
Football watching public that loves to see points put up
on the board. There's maybe a lack of appreciation for
the grinded out, grimy style that sometimes you have to
play with the team that you have. Tomlin has been
able to do that. Man that team last year had
no bit is going to know, being able to win
the games and do what they did right, but he
(02:13:05):
kind of figured kind of figured it out and it
kind of got them going. But it's a problem because
there is a bit of a ceiling when it comes
to like style of play and quarterbacks and all of that.
But there are levels to this, and you know, you
got to.
Speaker 4 (02:13:18):
Crawl before you can walk. You gotta walk before you
can run.
Speaker 2 (02:13:21):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (02:13:22):
You got to become good before you can become great.
Speaker 5 (02:13:24):
And they're little steps uh that you have to kind
of check off and hit along the way.
Speaker 8 (02:13:29):
He's Bucky Brooks out by Carbon It's Fox Football Sunday.

Speaker 1 (02:14:02):
Coming up next, we'll ask the question.
Speaker 8 (02:14:03):
We talk about injuries and we're not going to go
doomsday with the number, and because it's recency bias in
terms of, you know, does it seem like there's more injuries.
But we've got a couple that are pretty big and
potentially program altering. We'll do that next as we continue
on Fox Football Sunday. Welcome back in It's Fox Football Sunday,
(02:14:24):
Fox Sports Radio. Mike Carmon alongside Bucky Brooks having a
blast with you this morning.
Speaker 1 (02:14:29):

it off for you here this morning.
Speaker 5 (02:15:44):
I appreciate all the kind of words, man. It's it's
kind of fun. Hands in a lot of stuff.
Speaker 4 (02:15:50):
Football season is fully kicked off, so it's a lot
of fun every weekend. You know. Me I college and pro.
Speaker 1 (02:15:56):
I appreciate the hustle.
Speaker 11 (02:15:58):
Right.
Speaker 8 (02:15:58):
We've got Chris Burfett, our technical producer this hour, you know,
doing his stuff with Pride of Detroit and chronicling everything
the Lions have going on. Shaye trying to keep me
honest here our executive producer. And then we've got Nick
Cope at the updates. He's still recovering from that UCLA
football debacle last night, but we'll do that in a
couple of minutes with him as we get the update
(02:16:20):
from the news desk. Like I got a Northwestern win,
I'm excited, check the box and move on back into
the NFL Week two new quarterback plan, didn't put the
ball in harm's way, took care of it and succeed
and proceed as it were, And that's what for a
lot of NFL teams what you're trying to do. But
we talk about the laundry list of injuries here, Bucky
(02:16:41):
and Well, they're not created equal. Later on on the
Fox NFL pregame shows, they've got clearance for something I've
been preaching about Jordan Love for a while, but just
talking about it on a larger, larger scale is you know,
the quarterback position being as important as it is, right,
(02:17:01):
it's the We've got to make sure we've got this
as solidified and marked down as we possibly can. To summarize,
go back to twenty seventeen when Aaron Rodgers got hurt,
Brent Huntley came in sorry that UCLA connection and a
team that had Super Bowl aspirations that started four and
one fizzled, right, it was a lost year. And then,
(02:17:22):
as we'd see in this league, it's hard to keep
a squad together and expect that you're going to keep
that ball rolling to where, all right, you had momentum,
you had a great season or two, how do you
keep that going. Now for the Packers, they've gotten Belik
Willis indefinitely. I know they play a little game with
the injury report and had Jordan Love questionable, but and
(02:17:43):
at this point we have no idea how much time
he's gonna miss. I stipulate to that, but that looked
like potentially a huge injury. But for the Packers, that
magnified a your backups. Now a guy you brought into
the building what a week before the season started. Yeah,
And for a lot of teams you're kind of in
that same boat to where that drop off is potentially precipitous.
(02:18:06):
And if you have Super Bowl dreams, you know, one
hit at the end of a game like that suddenly
changes all of it, not just for this year, but
potentially for a year's to come.
Speaker 5 (02:18:18):
It changes, I mean, it changes so much of the process, right,
It just is a huge It's just a huge deal
where you just can't focus and you just like to think, Man,
the quarterback position, we can get that solidified.
Speaker 4 (02:18:34):
We just paid our guy. He's going to be around.
Speaker 5 (02:18:36):
But the backup quarterback position might be the most valuable
position on the field. We can talk about the starting
quarterback being most important, the backup being the most valuable
because if you have a good one, it gives you
a chance to continue to operate at a high level.
But if you don't have one, it's a rap. And
so I don't care what mattland Floyd can say to
(02:18:57):
his team right now. He can stand in the locker
room and hey, guys, we can do this win more
for the gipper, YadA, YadA, YadA. If they had been
looking at Malik Willis and Malik Willis has been awful
on the practice field. Man, you guys are sitting around
in little groups like, man, there's no way we're gonna
have to play above our heads on defense to figure
this out. That's the challenge, and that's why it's really
(02:19:20):
important that second quarterback is a really good one.
Speaker 8 (02:19:23):
Yeah, it's just that curiosity because my argument then, and
maybe this is the part that makes the air later
on on the pregame, was that when they drafted Jordan Love,
I defended it as opposed to a wide receiver because
Rogers had already been flirting with retirement right doing all
the stuff that he does, just like Brett Fahr before him,
But then he'd also had the collarbone injury and you
(02:19:44):
watched what could have been a great season go out
the window. So it's always the all right, we paid
the guy, but what's the solution should something befall him?
Because very few of these guys make it through seventeen
and you don't know if it's going to be you
need a guy to bridge you a week or two
or some thing more substantive, because that takes us down
to Miami where you've got Skylar Thompson. What has to
(02:20:05):
change from Mike McDaniel. How much different is the offense
run here going forward for him?
Speaker 5 (02:20:11):
You know, like for all the stuff that people give
to a tongue of by law, in terms of where
he stacks in the hierarchy of quarterbacks in that offense,
he is terrific. Having watched it firsthand last weekend, watching
him deal from that, he's a perfect guy. He's an
RPO master.
Speaker 4 (02:20:28):
I kind of.
Speaker 5 (02:20:29):
Liking him to the blackjack deal at the casino table
when you're in Vegas, right, you see how slick and
cool they are with the cars and how they come
off and how they always know how it should land
and where it should go. And oh, I got seven
people at the table. I don't even have to look up.
I'm just dealing.
Speaker 4 (02:20:44):
That's two a timing by lord.
Speaker 5 (02:20:45):
When it comes to the RPO game, eyes are down
the field.
Speaker 4 (02:20:48):
He just kind of masterful.
Speaker 5 (02:20:49):
With the ball fakes and the screens and swings and slants.
Speaker 4 (02:20:53):
And deep shots. He's good. You take him out of it.
Speaker 5 (02:20:56):
Scolear Thompson isn't as crafty with the ball all handling scalert.
Thompson isn't as precise with the ball placement. The offense
doesn't operate the same because Jalen Waddle and Tyreek Hill
need to get the ball on the move. Now it
kind of sounds like obvious, right, Well, yeah, they're on
the move because they're running Rolph. No, but it's on
the move in a position where they don't have to
(02:21:19):
look and go around. They catch it almost like a
relay race, the baton hits.
Speaker 4 (02:21:24):
The hand and we're off and running. That's how that
offense functions.
Speaker 5 (02:21:28):
Scalat Thompson isn't nearly as precise, not as nearly as
clever or magical when it comes to the ball fix.
Speaker 4 (02:21:34):
That's why the offense doesn't move the same.
Speaker 1 (02:21:36):
The timing and precision to all of that. You know,
we know speed kills.
Speaker 8 (02:21:40):
You know, you have the opportunity to get these fast
guys out there, and you have plenty of them, from
eight chen in the backfield to the receiving corps bringing
in Jalen Wright who got cleared. Didn't see a lot
of them in this one. But the other problem they
have now is they don't have at least to my thinking,
from what we've seen thus far here, you're gonna be
(02:22:00):
able to run on him and potentially bludgeon them a bit,
which is going to make life that much harder on
the offense, right. I mean, like you saw what Buffalo
was able to do, and Josh Allen did not have
you know, your normal Josh Allen gaudy numbers and statistics.
James Cook had himself a day and obviously by halftime
that got away as soon as through that ill fated
(02:22:24):
interception that was returned for a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (02:22:27):
That might only be second. I mean it might be second.
Speaker 8 (02:22:30):
You might say it's actually worse than what will Levis did,
although that cost them a game outright, So what we'll
get will Levis' slot number one, But to his interception
wasn't far behind. You know, the Hey, do the Teton
Manning turtle take the sack. I don't care about your QBR.
You don't have the armshake. That's the one thing with Tua, right,
It's not like he was throwing a frozen rope that
was suddenly going to sail into the seats to live
(02:22:52):
to see another down there, right, It just throws the
duck out there. But for for Thompson and for McDaniel's offense,
I mean you're probabll be designing an entirely new playbook
at this point.
Speaker 4 (02:23:03):
Yes, I mean a little bit.
Speaker 5 (02:23:05):
You make some alterations and some adjustments to account for
what Thompson does. Now here's the other thing, Mick, and
we've had this conversation before. The backup quarterback doesn't get
many reps in practice right at the NFL, which is
crazy when you think about it, right, Oh, the number
one takes all the reps, But shouldn't we have a
contingency plan just in case.
Speaker 4 (02:23:24):
It's almost like in La we had the earthquake this week.
Speaker 5 (02:23:27):
It's almost like, you know, we know that La may
be prone to earthquakes, but we're not going to have
an occasional drill. So everyone knows exactly what to do
just in case it happens, you know.
Speaker 4 (02:23:37):
Is one of the things that's illogical when you think
about it.
Speaker 5 (02:23:40):
But this week, scylet Thompson, when we think about next week,
which would be week three, he'll have an opportunity to
get all the reps, so he should have theoretically a
better performance because he will be better prepared to play.
Speaker 8 (02:23:51):
Now, as we look at the Dolphin schedule going forward,
obviously they got the Week one win, so that one
was in the pocket. We'll get to the Jaguars in
a minute here, Buck, but coming up, you've got the
Seattle defense on the road. No gifts there, Titans defense.
I mean, we hang a star on it, right. The
Bears came back and won that game, but they can
(02:24:13):
disrupt things and get after you a bit. We certainly
saw the aggressiveness we'll see how they respond to that loss.
I mean, they've got the Jets. We'll again talk to
Aaron Rodgers and his return to the field here.
Speaker 1 (02:24:25):
In a little bit. But it doesn't get easier.
Speaker 8 (02:24:28):
I mean, you got the Patriots after that, then you've
got the Colts, then cart and the Cardinals hang a
star on whatever they are, and then you're back to
the Bills in November. I mean, there's no let up
here on this schedule at all.
Speaker 5 (02:24:41):
No no letup and deak life in the National Football
League nice.
Speaker 4 (02:24:46):
No one cares. So I mean like if you have injuries.
Speaker 8 (02:24:51):
Bucky Brook hash tag, nobody cares. No, that's it right,
Well it was Lebar Jackson. Nobody cares, work harder, right,
It's the old mantra to all of it. But it's
just funny. Normally you see at least one or two
games that come up on your schedule and going all right,
while it may not be the same, it's like, all right, well,
(02:25:12):
we at least think we're better than this team. I
don't see anybody on that list where I go, all right,
they're obviously still gonna cruise, or that it's a potential laugher.
Now you're still going to out talent some of these squads.
But you know, in terms of continuity, culture, whatever else,
you know, you're still have to fight for the sixty
And if you're starting quarterback, is a guy with limited
(02:25:33):
experience that suddenly maybe the light there too bright, Suddenly
you're in trouble. I mean, I saw a bunch of
folks starting to pull out their Ryan Tannehill Dolphins jerseys.
Speaker 1 (02:25:42):
Out of mothballs.
Speaker 4 (02:25:45):
I mean, yeah right, But.
Speaker 8 (02:25:47):
I mean for the Packers the Dolphins, he's a viable option.
Speaker 5 (02:25:53):
And that's why you know you can sit there like
and I'll give you another name, C J. Bethrit will
have some some bushirt that began to spring out. He
was a backup quarterback, long time backup who last was
with the jacksonmanth Jaguars, but he started a handful of
games in the National Football League. You have to start
thinking about those players because it's all good with the
backup quarterback until he plays. And then today, very early
(02:26:17):
in the first or second quarter, either Brian Goodickus is
gonna look at his staff and not his head like okay,
we're all right, or they canna be like, hey, man,
get some of these guys on the phone.
Speaker 4 (02:26:25):
Let's get the.
Speaker 1 (02:26:26):
Ready list, you know, get that rids.
Speaker 5 (02:26:29):
Yeah, get Ryan Tannehill on the phone. A sap because
it look, it's scary when you don't have one.
Speaker 8 (02:26:36):
Yeah, and you got to stop start shopping around. So
who's carrying that third quarterback? But you might be able
to shake free? Might cost you a little more, right
because they know they got you over a barrel. But
you know you can't let a season potentially go away
here in week two.
Speaker 1 (02:26:50):
Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 8 (02:26:51):
Week one, he gets the tough test against the San
Francisco forty nine ers, the Coast super Bowl favorites coming
into the year. He's got the freebe touchdown Alan Lazar.
How that wasn't whistled dead for aunobated to the quarterback
when dude six yards in the back defensive are in
the offensive backfield. I don't know if it's an Aaron
Rodgers thing just because he's lived in.
Speaker 5 (02:27:13):
Yeah, he's made a living off the free plays and
he would have undressed the official.
Speaker 1 (02:27:18):
But it was ridiculous. It has happened to be Floyd
who took him down last year.
Speaker 8 (02:27:24):
So you know, we had these strange circumstances right to
in hambling and here's Floyd, the guy that's offside. But whatever,
you get that touchdown. What did you see in week one?
Speaker 4 (02:27:36):
Look, the normal things just show up.
Speaker 5 (02:27:38):
Uh, you're gonna see the inconsistent tackling because guys haven't
tackled in game in game at game speed, particularly when
you hold out your starters and that you don't play
in the preseason. You can tackle all day, but you
can't simulate the speed on the field and the angles
that are required to make tackles in the pro game.
So that stands out. Conditioning comes a factor. You saw
(02:28:01):
teams wear down in the fourth quarter when you don't
play them extensively in the preseason, and it makes sense
why you wouldn't that that extra quarter or two or
extra three quarters.
Speaker 4 (02:28:11):
That you haven't played.
Speaker 5 (02:28:12):
Man, the monkey jumps on you there, particularly when you're
playing in warm weather environments like a Miami or somewhere
in the South, it can jump up on you.
Speaker 8 (02:28:22):
Conditions there last week, right, hey or something like that.
How much weight did you lose during that game?
Speaker 5 (02:28:28):
Oh my god, you talk about being wet, but see
number more rule, man, when you're on the sideline, don't
let equipment beat you.
Speaker 3 (02:28:35):
No, I'm true.
Speaker 4 (02:28:35):
You always need to come properly equipped.
Speaker 5 (02:28:37):
So I had an extra couple of T shirts in
the bags and made a little halftime switch out, like
you've heard those teams talk about doing. They change their
jerseys and pants that they don't feel all wet and icky.
Speaker 4 (02:28:48):
Yeah, Bucky Brooks was on that point.
Speaker 8 (02:28:50):
Nicely done. Let me pull it back to Rogers for
a second Week one. Not a lot of mobility, not
a lot of lateral movement side to side. Part of
that is the pinch of the forty nine ers defensive front.
But beyond that, I mean the arm strength looked fine.
Got the ball out to the sidelines, you know, with efficiency,
made a couple of big throws. I still think that
(02:29:10):
Wilson catch should have counted on the sideline. At that point,
it was all academic and just stat building, but what
we're trying to evaluate throws and opportunities. That one, at least,
you know, gave you maybe a little bit more feeling
good feeling for him. But how much do you take
away from that Week one for Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 5 (02:29:30):
Look, man, the rust is going to be there, and
when you're forty plus, the rust is going to exist.
But also the nature of the injury, because not only
was Aaron Rodgers rusty, but Kirk Cousins was also rusty.
Speaker 4 (02:29:39):
And here's the thing. Aaron Rodgers had more time to
fully recover.
Speaker 5 (02:29:42):
From his situation and injury than Kirk Cousins, but both
of those guys were rusty. And there's still a bit
of a fear fact that you can do all the
workouts and rehab and practice that you want, but when
you have the red jersey on in practice, you still
know that you're protecting right. The game is different now
all bets are off, So if I got to escape,
I'm running for my life. This still has to be
(02:30:04):
something in the back of your mind, particularly that first game. Man,
is this Achilles gonna hold up?
Speaker 1 (02:30:09):
Sure?
Speaker 4 (02:30:10):
Is it gonna pop again?
Speaker 5 (02:30:11):
Like the normal things that you have taken for granted
for years on end, you may begin to question. It
takes some games to play through it before you're comfortable
and you don't think about the injury anymore.
Speaker 8 (02:30:24):
He's Bucky Brooks up by Carmon here, Fox Sports Radios,
Fox Football Sunday. Now let's get an update everything going on,
all the news and notes, because they're starting to come
fast and curiously with our gutting to cope.
Speaker 2 (02:30:34):
Arna.
Speaker 11 (02:30:35):
Thank you very much, Vine, Good morning to you and Bucky.
Who's in who's out? For Week two in the NFL?
We will start with the Lions. Receiver Jamison Williams is
expected to play through an ankle injury as Detroit welcomes
in Tampa Bay Chargers receiver Joshua Palmer also trending to
play through an ankle injury.
Speaker 2 (02:30:53):
Chargers are at the Panthers.
Speaker 11 (02:30:54):
Ravens linebacker Kyle van Noy optimistic to play after fracturing
an orbital bone at last week, as the Ravens welcome
in the Raiders today. Commanders offensive tackle Johnny Newton on
track to make his season debut. Washington welcomes in the Giants.
Colts receiver Josh Downs a toss up to play with
a high ankle sprain. Packers receiver Jaden Reid is expected
(02:31:15):
to play through a calf injury. Bengals receiver T Higgins
not expected to play nightcap tonight. Bears receiver Keenan Allen
and Roma Dunza both considered game time decisions, but ESPN
says that a Dunza is closer to playing than Allen
other news. Rams plays receiver Pukinakua on ir this week
with a knee injury and getting reports today that Nakua
(02:31:38):
could miss anywhere from five to seven weeks, potentially not
see the field until week nine. ESPN says to a
tongue of iois scheduled to meet with neurologists early this week.
Also from ESPN, Bengals receiver Jamar Chase doesn't plan to
negotiate a long term deal with Cincinnati during the season.
Mike Harmon Bucky Brooks back to you.
Speaker 8 (02:31:58):
Appreciate you Nick covered from the the u c l
A stuff from last night, or do.
Speaker 1 (02:32:03):
We need to talk you through it?
Speaker 2 (02:32:05):
I'm in a good spot.
Speaker 8 (02:32:06):
Okay, good, okay, say there you go positivity.
Speaker 4 (02:32:09):
He's in a good spot. Okay. Well, what's the one
thing that needs to change UCLA football right now? Where? Where?
Where can we have a big area broke from one
in one?
Speaker 5 (02:32:17):
We beat Hawaii, we lose to Indiana, Like, what what
do we need to see the next time they run out?
Speaker 8 (02:32:22):
Don't forget to put a big on that leave just one.
Speaker 4 (02:32:26):
We just need one thing. We just need one thing.
Speaker 11 (02:32:28):
We just got to get one offensive line. We got
to give the quarterback some time. It's it's not been
good through two weeks.
Speaker 1 (02:32:37):
Did then you go line play? Yeah? At every level.
Speaker 8 (02:32:41):
Feed him some extra at the training table when they
are in grade school, keep them going all right? Thanksick,
appreciate you. He's Bucky Brooks on Bay Krapt Coming up next.
A couple more roundabout stories here in the National Football
League Reference BUCkies work with the Jaguars. My guy Jason
Smith had his big take on Trevor law Rance off
an injury last year. How much do we expect out
(02:33:04):
of this squad here in twenty twenty four, and some
other odd news and notes. As we continue here, It's
Fox Football Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. Hey, welcome back
in It's Fox Football Sunday, Fox Sports Radio. Mike Carbon

Down to Kickoff. So as we look at the slate
coming after week one, Bucky, you know, we had some surprises,
a bit of chaos, a game that you'll be helping
with the call. Jacksonville a three point favorite with Cleveland
(02:34:30):
coming to town forty one and a half, so much
swirling in Cleveland. We've got a promo running because Smith,
you know, did the thing with Trevor Lawrence, and I
can't disagree with probably where i'd rank him right in
that middle of the pack and guys get paid. Right,
that contracts no longer the top one or two or three,
just the way the dominoes fall at the position. But
(02:34:53):
you know, coming out of Week one, the overtime loss
to Miami Travis Etns really just changes the complexion of
that game entirely. So while we can't caveat it out,
I mean, that's a huge player that then becomes a
fourteen point swing when they connect with Tyreek Hill on
the next play one hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (02:35:16):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:35:16):
And look it's one of those things what you saw
the Miami Dolphins get done to them by the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 4 (02:35:22):
To Jackson with Jaguars was doing that week one.
Speaker 5 (02:35:24):
Uh. They dominated the game for about two and three quarters. Right, Yeah,
that fumble changes everything, and you would like to think
that a pro athletes mentally can handle that. But you
talk about a fourteen point swing, get a matter of
two plays, Travis Dicien is about to walk into the
end zone to make it twenty four to seven, uh,
two minutes left in the third quarter.
Speaker 4 (02:35:45):
Completely forces to Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 5 (02:35:47):
To then get out of their normal attack and begin
to throw it all around and play action isn't a factor.
Speaker 4 (02:35:53):
They fumble, he gets it back.
Speaker 5 (02:35:55):
First played Big Shot Tyreek Hill seventeen to fourteen, and
I've said that when it comes to the Miami Dolphins
in Tybreek Hill in particular, he is the Miami Dolphins
versions of Steph Curry in Golden State because the energy
in the building changes when number ten makes a big play.
Speaker 4 (02:36:14):
It just completely changed.
Speaker 5 (02:36:16):
It's very similar to Steph Curry knocking down two or
three threes in the arena.
Speaker 4 (02:36:21):
It changes the energy.
Speaker 5 (02:36:23):
Everyone has paid the cost of the price of admission
to see that, and that's what happened.
Speaker 4 (02:36:28):
It changed. It was overwhelming at that point.
Speaker 8 (02:36:30):
Yeah, that game shifted on a dime. I'm thousands of
miles away from the stadium and it was like, oh, okay,
now not only do we have a game, but you
just now have that restlessness. It's certainly on the Jacksonville sideline.
Some of the shots a bit concerning there. They've got
Cleveland coming in a team with so many questions right now,
(02:36:51):
and I'm not even getting into the off the field
stuff with Deshaun Watson. Just on the field, there's no timing,
no consideration. Chubbs still out. Drome Ford's a nice running back,
but he's not anything that you have to scheme against necessarily.
So for Shaun Watson, for Kevin Stefanski, how do they
find their way out? Because he looks like a guy
(02:37:11):
in his postgame presser and every media availability this week, Bucky,
he looks like a guy that's over it.
Speaker 1 (02:37:17):
With all the extra going on in that locker room.
Speaker 5 (02:37:21):
I just think it's I think it's a lot. I
think it's a lot to quote unquote deal with. I
think it's a lot to manage. And you don't want
to put it on him, right. The situation is the situation,
and you knew the situation when you when you kind
of took it on. But I mean, how do you
how do you manage and navigate it?
Speaker 4 (02:37:40):
Like?
Speaker 5 (02:37:40):
What do you? What do you do with it? It's
it's tough. I think for Deshaun Watson and for the Browns,
they have to figure out how the best played with
the quarterback. All the outside noise about oh they're gonna
bench them, they're gonna trade them, that's not happening.
Speaker 4 (02:37:53):
The money is too significant.
Speaker 5 (02:37:55):
So your job, if you're Kevin Stefanski and those guys
just how do we play around the quarterback? What can
we do to get him enough confidence where we can
win games.
Speaker 4 (02:38:05):
They don't have Nick.
Speaker 5 (02:38:06):
Chubbs, so the running game isn't as formidable, so you
can't hide him in that regard. So what passing plays
can we use to get him going? And then you
have to stand in front of the defense of room
and say, hey, guys, y'all got to carry us. Y'all
got to carry us. I know that guy makes a
lot of money, but y'all have to carry us. That's
how they win. They win if their defense plays like
(02:38:27):
is capable of playing.
Speaker 8 (02:38:28):
Yeah, I guess for me looking at it from the
finance side of it, you know, it's the old idea
of sunk costs, and that's a hard sell to your
ownership and everybody that made a big investment in him.
But if you're not realizing returns, if you think you're
gonna have another quarterback that's slightly above where he is,
And I guess that's the question with James Winston that
(02:38:49):
you know the money, You know you can get lawyers
involved and figure that out, But right now you're crippling
a team that had championship aspirations for the rest of
that roster.
Speaker 4 (02:39:00):
Yeah, I mean, it's it's tough. It's tough.
Speaker 5 (02:39:02):
It's tough to do. But you're right, you're crippling the roster. Uh,
you have to make that decision, but you got to
give it more time. Can Dorsey, new offensive coordinator comes over,
so you want to give them time to work.
Speaker 4 (02:39:11):
But yeah, it's not great. It's certainly not great. Now
that's a bad investment.
Speaker 8 (02:39:15):
No, absolutely, it's it's as you know, take your losses
and write it off.
Speaker 1 (02:39:19):
Tampa Bay. Can they go into Detroit and win real quick?
Speaker 5 (02:39:22):
Absolutely, just because Baker Mayfield is hot and that defense
is gonna give you problems.
Speaker 4 (02:39:26):
They're gonna say and pressure everywhere. Can they create turnovers?
Speaker 8 (02:39:28):
That's the key there, you go take care of the
football at Bucky Brooks's on the call with the Jaguars
count down to kickoff Coming up next here, presented by
bad MGM, It's Fox Sports Radio.
