Show walk up song right now? It's probably st higher love.

(00:24):
Oh yeah, kaigo, that's my pump up song, like driving
into work like always. So it feels like that's like
right on par with what would be my walk up song?

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Yeah? You, what's yours? I don't know. I always struggle
with that.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
It's probably like something like I'm on One by Bellow
Inn and like a bunch of guys.

Speaker 5 (00:46):
Look the top five. What will be your top walk
up song?

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Yeah, that would be one of them, I'm sure.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
But then like like it ranges the gamut because then
another one would be like running Down a Dream by
Tom Petty, Like okay, that guitar rif from the beginning.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Also like a little like hard rock, little punk, like
something that gets your head banging. Okay, now you just
wait either next hour or next show. We're gonna come
back with a list. But you guys, happy October. This
is one of the most magical months in sports. We've
got MOB postseason in full force. I think Cleveland just yeah,

(01:21):
just beat Detroit, absolutely destroyed them seven to nothing. But
it's here, like October is here. This is what it's
all about. We got NFL college football in their groove,
WNBA Playoffs, the start of the NBA preseason. Like this

like despite Detroit just absolutely getting destroyed by the Guardians,
you guys think knocked out the Astros, Like that was
Chef's kiss. If you're a Dodgers fan, Met's turnaround season,
Otani's postseason debut is happening tonight, Like we're going to

(02:01):

And we've got some great guests joining us today.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Mike Golick Junior in about thirty minutes, Gem of a human. Yes, yeah,
somehow not calling a game today, so it's beautiful we're
taking him on the air.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
I'm still making work on Zi. You were just a
little bit. I told him he had to be mostly sober.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
I think it would be better if he was a
couple of deepcause you're going to probably gonna be out
watching the games anyway. Please, Mike, if you are listening,
maybe not yet, I hope you're a little saucy by
the time we get you on the show. Make it
a little more entertaining that we have Fox Sports m
Web analysts Ben Verlander an hour or two just to
really break down this entire MLB post season, and so
I can talk a little trash to him about his astros,

(03:18):
because I've been doing that all year and I can't wait.
We got producer Patrick with US today, Technical producer Loreena
Peterson with US Martin Wi's at the news desk. We're
gonna keep you updated on all the college football action,
the MLB action as it takes off. Like it's I'm
so excited. I am so excited, But let's start with

(03:39):
some baseball. You guys happy postseason. We have the alds
and nlds all playing today, so many fun storylines. As
I said off the top of the show, but this
is also the first time we have basically all of
the superstars playing in the postseason. Sho Heo Tani making
his playoff debut, Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper, Moogie Beats, Bobby

(03:59):
witchun Your, Lonzo Lindor, Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Junior.

Speaker 5 (04:02):
I mean, the list goes on, but like.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
It finally feels like everyone that was having that kind
of a season is actually going to be playing in
October Obviously, that big one is Otani making his debut,
and this is what it's all about, Like, this is
what it's all about. But let's start with Detroit. Obviously,
as I mentioned, Cleveland just crushed the Tigers in Game one,

(04:24):
seven to zero, first time that they have ever faced
off in the postseason.

Speaker 5 (04:28):
But I need a moment for the sweep that they
made earlier.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
This week, because you guys, the Tigers knocked out the
Astros in the Wildcard Series, ending the Astros seven consecutive
ALCS appearances, with the Astros former manager Aj Hinch leading
the Tigers to victory. So that was the ultimate gut

(04:53):
punch for the Astros. Also because they have about like
six big name unrestricted free agents now after the season,
so it is not going to be the same team
that hey, they had this year. But this Tigers team also,
like we were talking about how they're in a rebuild
at the start of this season, and then they even
shipped off all of their veterans at the trade deadline,

(05:16):
like and then they lost Hobby Bias to injury like that,
The way that this Detroit team was set up for
this season, I don't think, I mean, except if you're
a Tigers fan. Most people didn't have them making it
to the postseason, but they somehow turned it around, going
the AL best thirty four to nineteen after the trade

(05:39):
deadline since July thirty is some snuck in as that.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
Addition sixty no will. They just were placing the faith
in their farm system. They were placing their faith in
their young players, they placed their faith in, you know,
their new manage, all of this kind of Yes, I
am particularly happy for the Detroit Tigers because I'm a
White Sox fan. Okay, we let a very beloved part

(06:04):
of that organization in Jason Bennetti go, which was really like,
I think that was the thing that stung the most, honestly, Like, yes,
the White Sox had a historically bad season, but before
it even started, Yeah, they allowed Jason Bonnetti to go
and then become the voice of the Tigers, and instead
of anybody turning against them, they're in the same division now.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Like all this other.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
Stuff, it's just like, we're so happy that Jason's happy. Yeah,
we just want Jason to call some fun games, yeah,
and he was able to do that. So we're all
very happy in Chicago for Jason Bennetti getting to be
part of this Detroit.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Tigers, right, yeah, I mean this is like good for them,
like that Tiger's slowly getting back to I guess where
they were maybe a decade ago. But let's move yeah,
a while ago, but let's move to the next matchup
that is getting underway pretty soon.

Speaker 5 (06:53):
Here they're in warmups, Mets and Phillies.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Now this is the first time they have ever met
in the postseason as well, and the Mets journey to
get here, you guys, one of the most like historic
Mets thing out right, especially like for Mets fans who
are familiar with the Mets just meting like they always find.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
A way to blow it.

Speaker 5 (07:13):
You had it and he blew it like that.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
That is what the Mets do. But all that changed
when Pete Alonzo became the ninth inning hero for the Mets.

Speaker 6 (07:24):
Bryan Wondo, Alonzo william Sets. Here's the pitch swing on
a fly ball to right field. Pretty well, hits freelick
back at the wall, he.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Jumps, He's done, hate hate DNA peyt Alonzo.

Speaker 6 (07:36):
With the most favorable home run of his career. Pop's
as fast as a round second. That's a three run
to Homer, He's given the Mets.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
A three to two lad Like, I got chills listening
to that.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
That is poetic, That is magical, that is beautiful, Like
this is what makes sports so amazing. It's like having
emotional moments like that, and I I was just so
happy for the Mets.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
I just think it was so funny that the way
the Mets got into the postseason was like the hardest
possible thing that they could have possibly had to do.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
They're in the midst of.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
Playing eight games in seven days. Just an absolute Mets
in man. Yes, it's just a play.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
The Mets freed the doubleheader that they played Ponzo so
the day off with the Braves to make it in right,
which was not their fault.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
No, it was because of a hurricane. Major League Baseball
I think, my opinion, could have handled it much better.
There were other options rather than having these guys between
the Mets and the Braves now both having to play
this many games in this amount of time to start
the postseason, and you think it's hopeless. They're scoreless going
into the and then yeah, boom, three to two. It

(08:46):
changes in an instant. The Mets move on. It's it's
it's incredible.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
It's also crazy how they got here because last year
the Mets sold off most of their top guys at
the trade deadline, and owner Steve Cohen's said that they
were in a quote rebuild. Well, well, well that all
changed on June twelfth, And you know what happened on
June twelfth. That was the day that Grimace throughout the
first pitch at the Mets game. The Mets were twenty

(09:14):
nine and thirty seven going into that game had only
won eight of their previous twenty games. After Grimace threwout
that first pitch, they went on a seven game winning
streak and they officially gave him a purple Grimace seat
on September sixteenth at City Field, and for some reason,
he became the unofficial mascot of the Mets that they should.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
Be all like every postseason game that is held at
the Mets Stadium city Field. Not only that, you should
be giving the crowd like or doesn't Grimace have his
own shake? He's got like like yeah, McDonald.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
I don't know, I like purple shade, Okay. I was like,
I don't know, Yeah, it's real, okay, is it really okay?

Speaker 4 (09:48):
Okay, so like everybody in the stadium should be getting
free shakes, something something like keep the good Grimace, jus
you're going.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
It's just we all knew the Phillies were going to
get here, right.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
They've been so close the last two seasons and twenty
twenty two, uh, they made the World Series loss of
the Astros. Twenty twenty three made it to the NLCS
loss of the d Backs in Game seven. The Phillies
have been a World Series favorite. But this, like this
is going to be absolute mayhem. Game just started top
of the first Like, this is just two really intense,

(10:20):
beautiful fan bases. And they also have Zach Wheeler on
the mountain for the Phillies, who's a former Met has
been one of the hottest pitchers in baseball the last month.
This is this is going to be an epic.

Speaker 4 (10:30):
The question is, sary did bet Alonzo with that three
run homer just solidified like staying then in New York
because he's gonna be a free agent after this season.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Is that it all depends on what the Mets future
is are are Met's gonna go out and build around him?
But they also like no one thought they were going
to get to the postseason this year. They were supposed
to be a quote rebuild year. They had everybody last
year sold off Shures or sold off for Lander, like
they chose to like, we're gonna we're gonna get a
lot of does this.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
Now like do the Oh no, we're more ahead of
the curve and we thought we were. We're gonna start
a building now.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Instead of something. I don't know. It's gonna be free agents.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Yeah, this is gonna be great. It's gonna be so awesome. Okay,
Royals at Yankees. That's the next game later this afternoon.
I have the Yankees making the World Series. I need
them to win this one. Yankees have Garrett Cole going
in Game one. So the real question is can the
Royals put up enough runs versus New York because they
only scored three runs in the two wild card games,

(11:27):
or star Bobby wit Junior driving in the winning runs.

Speaker 5 (11:30):
And when you have guys like Aaron Judge.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
And Wan Soto to the top hitters in the game
at home at Yankee Stadium, I'm putting my money on
them to go off.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
It's going to go off. Like the igue.

Speaker 4 (11:41):
Baseball is salivating at the fact that not only is
Dodgers Yankees.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Possible that that's why we're Vegas the top, you.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
Know, like the betting off, all that other stuff like
that is the most likely matchup for this world series.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
That's I don't know if you want to hear that good,
I don't care.

Speaker 5 (12:03):
I'm taking la baby.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
But let's let's move on to the most anticipated series
this postseason. And there's a reason why, but Padres at Dodgers.
This is the third time in the last five postseason
the Dodgers and Padres meet in the NLDS, and it's
turned into a really beautiful, fun rivalry. Finally that started.
I don't think it started when the Dodgers swept the

(12:26):
Padres in twenty twenty. I think it started when the
Padres knocked out the Dodgers in twenty twenty two.

Speaker 7 (12:31):
And then this.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Season like battle really started when the teams kicked off
their their season in Seoul, and you could tell from
the first game of the season this was going to
be an epic battle if both these teams could make
it to the postseason. Obviously, the Dodgers have been one
of the best regular season teams over the last decade.
We knew they were going to get here, especially adding Otani,
which is the most exciting thing of all you guys,

(12:54):
show Hey, Otani making his postseason debut in his seventh season, Like,
this is the exaus act reason that Otani signed with
the Dodgers to play and to win. In October and
Otani spoke to the media this week and he was
asked all of he was nervous playing in the postseason.
Didn't even like take a moment for his translator to translate.
It just went nope, Like he said, It's always been

(13:17):
his childhood dream to play in important situations, to play
in important games, and the excitement of that is greater
than anything else he could possibly feel.

Speaker 4 (13:24):
We're going to find out if this five game you know,
mini buy whatever, that these these top seeded teams get now.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Well, it hurts, it hurts. It hurt the Dodgers in
the past games in the past.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
The Yankees had it too this year, So like, is
that are they going to get off to a hot start?
Is there going to be kind of some having to
get used to it again, get warmed back up?

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Or is show Hey, it's just.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
You know, I think show Hay is going to lead
by example We've already seen how Otani rises to see
the occasion in high stake situations. He Homer's on his
bibblehead day, hit two home runs in the same day
to reach and creating fifty the club.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
He won the WBC for Team Japan, coming in as
a closer to face Mike Trout and strike him out
to beat tam Usa and win the World Baseball Classic.
Otani was born for the pressure, you guys. He is
as hot of a player that you can be right now,
like he is red hot, and we knew that was
gonna happen. He's already created history tonight. I'm just I'm

(14:19):
so excited to see what goes down. The Padres have
Dylan Ceese on the mound. Dodgers have Yoshinobu Yamamoto also
making his MLB postseason debut.

Speaker 5 (14:27):
These are two powerhouse top lineups.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
I mean, Padres Luisa Rise for Fernando Tati's junior Profar Machado, Jackson, Merrill,
Xander Boguards. Like at the top of both of these
lineups Dodgers Otani, Mookie Betts, Freddie if he's if he's healthy,
We're hoping that Angle's okay to Oscar Hernandez, Max Munsey,
Will Smith, like this is this could go off as
just like I hope I love a home run party,

(14:52):
Like give me Dangers all day, danger City. That's all
I want, Danger City. I no pitching duel, give me
the let's let's get a bunch of Dodgers home runs.
But I also want to like you want to see
a good game, Like I'm just I am so excited
for this. We're in for such a treat this postseason,
especially with Fox having all the National League games. I mean,

(15:15):
Mets Phillies is gonna be insane, Dodgers Padres is gonna
be insane.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Fox is salivating at all of this.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
These are huge fan bases and like all the stars,
I am so excited, let's go.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Yeah, what was that. I don't know. That wasn't me.
I think that was Lorena. I'm into that. I'm salivating noise.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Yes, yeah, sorry, guys, We're gonna take a quick break here.
But when we come back, where will DeVante Adams play next?
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (15:57):
This is what I'm talking about. Walk up song, Babe.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
I'm seeing him.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
I'm seeing what Next Thursday, He's coming into the Hollywood
Ball October seventeenth.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
I'm so excited.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Okay, well, guys, welcome back to Fox Football Saturday. I'm
Alex Curty with Carmen Vitali. We were broadcasting live from
the tire dot Com studios in Los Angeles. Thank you
for spending your Saturday afternoon with us. I hope you're
having as much fun as we are, because, like now,
my mood is like elevated to level ten.

Speaker 5 (16:23):
That's what this song does for me. Every time. Ear
to ears smile.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
That's good one.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
All right, Let's get to some of the big news
that dropped this week, and it was DeVante Adams requesting
a trade. Now we're hearing reports that is frustration with
the team really kind of started at the end of
last season and how the Raiders' organization treated his boy
Derek Carr, who was a big reason that Adams decided
to come play in Vegas. So everyone this week has

(16:51):
been you know, kind of guessing where his landing spots.
Would be what teams need him, what teams have draft
capital for him, what teams are willing to get creative
as Cynthia calls it, creative accounting. And it's looking like
he'll probably go for a second round pick at this point,
maybe some lower level picks or a player, maybe a
team to cover a salary. But Adams posted on his

(17:14):
Instagram story yesterday a quote from Edgar Allan Poe.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
He just put up a picture of Edgar Allan Poe with.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
The famous It was a quote that he because he
wrote the Raven Yes, and the quote is, you know,
believe nothing you hear in half of what you see.
So everyone's kind of going crazy reading into the Raven
part of it and freaking out about everything. But he
has said, like his wish list, he would like to
play with quarterbacks he's played with, right so Aaron Rodgers

(17:43):
and the Jets or Derek Carr and the Saints both
would be better by adding DeVante Adams at this point.
But there are other top quarterbacks and teams that also
could really use him right now. The Chiefs just lost
Rashi Rice to the ir PA Checko, possibly out for

(18:04):
the season. Two of their top weapons would the Raiders
trade within the division, though, to the best team in
the league. I mean, I say, get what you want.
You're not beating the Chiefs anyway, Like take something from
them to get better.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
You got Bills.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
They don't necessarily have a number one star wide receiver,
since trading Stefon Diggs and having someone like Adams for
Josh Allen could be a game changer. He's also used
to playing in the cold, so that's a plus. Cowboys
have kind of been shut down this week. They were
like top of the conversation and then that's been kind
of shut down. Steelers kind of maybe in the conversation

(18:40):
only because they were in the Brandon Ayuk conversation and
they were looking for a top wide receiver and didn't
get him.

Speaker 5 (18:46):
So, Carmen, where do you think DeVante Adams is going
to land?

Speaker 4 (18:53):
I think you need to break it down between like
where he should go, Yeah, what's actually realistic and what
teams are actually going to go for it? So the
obvious thing is, yeah, the Kansas City Chiefs need him.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
Oh that she Rice.

Speaker 4 (19:08):
We don't even know what's wrong with sheet Rice yet.
I say, Pataco on ir all that other stuff. You
have to think though obviously they're in the same division,
that's not really likely. But at the same time, I
think a huge motivation for the Raiders to do this
deals demonte Adams wants out. Yes, he is under contract though, Yeah,
the only motivation for the Raiders to do this is

(19:28):
to offload his contract. Yeah, haven't paid a massive contract
and he's like hitting the salary cap for a lot
of money on top of the team guarantees and all
that other stuff.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
And the Ravens are not the Ravens.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
The Raiders are not known for being the most financially
savvy of organizations.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
I know Mark Davis is desperate to offload this thing.

Speaker 4 (19:50):
So if it's the Kansas City Chiefs that come to
you with the best offers say it will take his
salary on, it would I just because rivalries are just
not what they used to be anymore. I think that
they do exist in the in the AFC West, and
obviously everybody wants to stick it to the Chiefs, and
you don't want it as a division team to be
giving them any.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
More, ammo, even if you're not in contention here.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
So I still think it's very unlikely, and I still
think think they say fu, because I do think there's
going to be other suitors.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
Now, the question in New.

Speaker 4 (20:19):
York for the Jets, I think it's you know, it's
a given that they're going to be interested in this race.
For Devonte Adams. The question here is is Aaron Aaron
Rodgers going to take little you know, rework his contract
a little bit to give the Jets a little bit
extra money?

Speaker 8 (20:39):
Now?

Speaker 2 (20:39):
How many years this is Rogers House? He's got another one,
so it's this season and one more.

Speaker 8 (20:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (20:44):
And then.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
The thing about it, it's like people do this all
the time, they reworking in the contracts, all that other stuff.
People are saying, well, the Jets aren't paying a son
Reddick right now, that situation is all a mess. So
you have the money to get Devonte Adams. If you
think the ha Son Reddic situation is going to eventually
work out and you are going to need to pay
him that money, you need to free up more space.
The Jets, I believe have about seventeen million right now.

(21:07):
You probably to be safe need about twenty in your
cap space to afford a guy like Davante Adams. Afford
that contract, get him to a deal that you know
he likes and take on all of that money. I
really I would love him to go to the Ravens
and be the Ravens like they have Zay Flowers. But
Mark Andrews isn't isn't what do they have.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
To be capital They could do it, Okay, they could.

Speaker 4 (21:30):
Do it again, it's all the creative like they could
absolutely do it creative accounting. And I think that they
would massively benefit from having DeVante Adams on the roster.
But the way that the roster and the way the
scheme is currently constructed in Baltimore is it's a run
first offense. It goes through Lamar Jackson and Derek Henry,
as it should when you have those two players, So
it's not as if you really need that that really

(21:54):
explosive passing game.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
I don't know. I would like to see it.

Speaker 4 (21:59):
It would be very I think the Ravens would be
unstoppable if that was the case. Josh Allen and the Bills,
that could happen, sure, but he's doing just fine without him.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
Yeah, he's elevating fine, but just fine, like for the
rest of the season. It would be nice.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
Trajectory though, and like this is yeah, it would still Again,
there are so many teams that it would be nice
to have DeVante Adams. The one that I think is
the most realistic is still the New York Jets because
of the fact that Aaron Rodgers would I don't think
it's realistic that he ends.

Speaker 5 (22:28):
Up with the Chiefs because of the division.

Speaker 3 (22:30):
Because of the division, it's like, again, nobody wants to pay.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
If no one like picks them up and this like
drags out. I think that's when the Chiefs have the
best chance to go out and get him.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
Well, yes, that you're gonna have to have a lack
of interest from other teams, and I'm saying that I
don't think that that's gonna happen. I think that there
are plenty other teams that again would either like DeVante
Adams and.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
Can't afford him.

Speaker 4 (22:54):
Not to mention, I do think that the Jets are
going to make a huge push to get him at
at the best of Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
Who is going to want to play with he Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 4 (23:05):
The Jets leader in scrimmage yards is Breece Hall as
a running back, even though most of them have come
on receiving yards. His second the guy who was the
second most yards on the New York Jets offense right now, Alanzard,
who is not on a team if it's not for
Aaron Rodgers. Yep, Aaron Rodgers does not trust Garrett Wilson yet. Nope,
he barely trusts Breese Hall.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
But he's just checking down.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
To him also to get the guy that he trust
get the guy that he trusts y espentially New York.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
If you're actually talking about Super Bowl this year, super
Bowl next.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
Year, and jobs are on the line this year. If
you guys don't get something done, go out, get the guy.
Do whatever it takes.

Speaker 5 (23:42):
Now it's check in with Martin Wise and see what's trending.

Speaker 6 (23:46):
College football score is.

Speaker 10 (23:48):
Going on right now. We got Ohio State and Hye
with the number three marked Buckeyes with a seven to
nothing lead with seven minutes left in the second quarter
here going into halftime.

Speaker 6 (23:57):
Auburn and Georgia the Bulldogs.

Speaker 10 (23:59):
With they seven to three lead over the Tigers eight
thirty six left in the second quarter, Ole miss with
the two touchdown lead over South Carolina ten minutes left
in the second quarter there, and with six minutes left
and a half, Indiana and Northwestern tie seven apiece Alabama
right Now on the road trailing at Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt took
the opening kickoff and March right Downs scored a touchdown.
The number one ranked team in the nation right Now

(24:20):
down seven to nothing, eight forty six left in the
first quarter. Earlier today, we saw Penn State beat UCLA
twenty seven to eleven, Texas A and M beat Missouri
forty one to ten, and an upseate and Aggie's with
the twenty fifth ranked team in the nation, the Tigers,
the ninth SMU beat the twenty second ranked Louisville. The
Mustangs beat the Cardinals thirty four to twenty seven. Calvin
Jennings had twenty one for twenty seven through the air

(24:42):
for twenty and eighty one yards, ten carries for one
hundred and thirteen yards rushing, one touchdown. The Guardians beat
the Tigers seven and nothing in game one of their
Alds series. Lane Thomas with a three run home run
at the bottom of.

Speaker 6 (24:54):
The first inning. David Fry had two rbi as well.

Speaker 10 (24:57):
Mets and the Phillies just got started at the top
of this Zach and Ending Kyle Schwarber had a first
inning home run in the bottom of the first inning.
In the top of the first inning, Zach Wheeler eleven pitches,
eleven strikes, two strikeouts.

Speaker 6 (25:08):
He's feeling it so far to start the day.

Speaker 10 (25:10):
Michael Waker tows the rubber for the Royals against Garrett
Cole the Yankees in game one of that side of
the Alds and Dylan Seas and Yoshinobu y Alamoto in
the nightcap for the Padres that the Dodgers eight thirty
first pitch on FS one. The Colts down great Anthony
Richardson for doubtful for the Sunday's game. The Dolphins activate
Odell Beckham off the pup list. Brandon Cooks is on

(25:33):
IR after he had infection in his knee after surgery.
Down Trey mcgride is dom brated to questionable for the Cardinals,
and Romeo Dobbs is suspended for Sunday's game against the Rams.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
Back to you, guys, Thank you Martin you listen to
Fox Football Saturday. I'm Alex Curry here with Carmen Vitali.
We are broadcasting live from the Tarwer dot Com studios
in Los Angeles. Thank you for spending your Saturday afternoon
with Carmia mei, and it is time for our the
co host of Gojo and Golic with his zaddie give
it up for Mike Golic Junior.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
What's y'all?

Speaker 8 (26:09):
How are we doing?

Speaker 3 (26:09):
Yeah, buddy, we just so when we tease you.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
I put out your your mayonnaise photo and we're like
watching a game right now, and they were literally just
squeezing mayonnaise into their mouth.

Speaker 5 (26:19):
So I think it's just you know, timing, is everything?

Speaker 3 (26:22):
Happy to have you, It's it's my worst nightmare, actually
worst nightmare. Mike does how I feel about.

Speaker 8 (26:26):
Coonomagni to really, I say, the universe makes this happen
just to personally attack Karma. That's the point.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
I love it so much, Mike.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
Let's let's start with Davante Adams reportedly wanting the trade
out of Vegas.

Speaker 5 (26:41):
Were you surprised to hear this? And where do you
think he's going to land?

Speaker 8 (26:46):
I wasn't surprised to hear it, necessarily given the station
that the Las Vegas Raiders are in right now. We
knew going into this year the quarterback of the future
wasn't on the roster. DeVante Adams as a wide receiver
who's getting older, and I won't say best days are
behind him yet, but he's at the point where he
has to start thinking about these things, and based on
the start to the season for them, those things would
make sense hitting here, though, at least in parts heard

(27:08):
by the fact that we've got reports that Antonio Pierce's
out here liking Instagram. Yeah, he made those thinly veiled
comments after the game about players making business decisions that
may or may not have been a reference to him.
Like how messy the divorce might potentially be has been
the shocking part for sure, but I.

Speaker 5 (27:27):
Mean it was messy with Derek Carr too, So like,
are we surprised, No.

Speaker 8 (27:31):
I mean the Raiders at some point, you know, they
are a team that might not get the Cowboys level
of branding when it comes to the we know drama
the old line, but the Raiders have certainly always been
up there, and for Mark Davison Company, an organization that
is as much mom and pop, if not more, than
any of these NFL franchises, I guess we shouldn't be
all that surprised.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
Speaking of the Cowboys to the wild part of all
of this is everybody's like, Nah, Cowboys don't spend that
kind of money and then it comes out today and
Cooks is going on ir and yet no. But that's
the thing is no one else is still saying like, oh, well,
now the Cowboys are gonna go out and get Adams.
They absolutely should, but Jerry Jones is so stubborn to
an absolutely insane degree because he should be a cowboy

(28:17):
after this.

Speaker 8 (28:18):
Right, Mike, you would think like there were a few,
you know, and at Carmen, I think it is a
perfect estimate to exactly the brand that Jerry Jones is
built for himself, not just this offseason but every off season.
At the helms of the Dallas Cowboys were it's so
far out of what we know they would do. We
didn't even really bring their names up like everyone talked about,

(28:39):
Oh well, Baltimore would be a great fit Buffalo. You know,
they're young and green with the weapons there, especially with
departure of Steph Diggs. You look at a team like Washington,
you look at the team like the New Orleans Saints,
of the connections there, and no one was like, oh yeah, well,
like Dallas, there absolutely be in the mix of this
because we know while it would be good for them,
one of the Cowboys laugh really readily done anything that's

(28:59):
good for them out us all bullying them at nauseum
and Jerry waiting until the umteenth hour and making a
bunch of vague references about leaves. It just doesn't happen.
And unfortunately for Cowboys that it's going to be the
case yet again here.

Speaker 5 (29:11):
Well, one of the other.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
Top landing spots for Devanta Adams could be the Jets,
But we are seeing, you know, Aaron Rodgers Robert Solam
making headlines earlier this week for having issues with the.

Speaker 5 (29:21):
Cadence on the offense.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
They both kind of brush it aside, but there's been
like a bit of tension right between the two of
them since he called Aaron out for missing mandatory mini camp.
Do you see this being the best landing spot for
DeVante Adams, Not really.

Speaker 8 (29:36):
No, Like I mean, if it was the best football
landing spot at this point, I truly think it would
be the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 11 (29:42):
Right.

Speaker 8 (29:42):
You go to a team that's got a two time
MVP quarterback, an offense that's the best rushing attack in
the league, that desperately needs your type of receiver, like
a true X wide receiver, has not existed in Baltimore
for quite some time. And as they wait for Mark
Andrews to come back to his full form at the
tight end spot there and have someone in the passing
game to truly consistently compliment Dave Flowers, DeVante Adams comes

(30:05):
in and immediately upgrades you in a major way.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
With the Jets.

Speaker 8 (30:09):
It's high risk going to do this because to your point,
the tension of the Jets right now is everyone in
that building understanding if this doesn't go well, and well
is winning the Super Bowl, because that's to bring Aaron
Rodgers here to due the whole thing's probably going to
get blown up sooner than later. And if you're DeVante Adams,
do you want to be less as a part of
that wreckage when it's all said and done, because your

(30:29):
buddy Aaron Rodgers probably not going to be around for
all that many more years, and certainly not as many
years as DeVante is capable of still playing. So I
do think that that's the situation where you do have
the comfort level and going in mid season wanting to
get as much as you can out of twenty twenty four,
maximize those opportunities. I get why that relationship would matter
from a football standpoint, but from an overall team standpoint,

(30:51):
a vibe standpoint, it's hard to back anything at the Jets.

Speaker 4 (30:54):
Yeah, I think it's really realistic, just given the fact
that Aaron Rodgers seems to get his way and he will.
He doesn't trust anybody on that team that he hasn't
played with already. Essentially, because I was just telling Alex
before you got on, Alan Lazard has the second most
scrimmage yards on the Jets right now, behind Breesault, Like
Alizard isn't on a roster if it's not for Aaron

(31:16):
Rodgers at this point, So clearly he needs someone else
he can trust there. But I want to switch gears
with you, Mike, because you are a man of many
talents and you may not be calling a game today,
but I'm gonna make you work for it anyway. NCAA
Football ap Top twenty five. You're Notre Dame, Irish. I
just they're sitting at fourteen. They have one loss on

(31:38):
the season, but the vibes have not been great in
South Bend. Mike, what are your thoughts?

Speaker 8 (31:45):
Yeah, you know what, Notre Dame. First off, I love
a goodbye weekend because nothing can happen that can damage
me as a fan that so I get a nice
break to enjoy everyone else riding the anxiety roller coaster.
But I think New York notre names are a really
unique point in this. And you know, you get a
ranked win over Louisville at home this last weekend that
wasn't pretty, but you got it done, and you made

(32:06):
the playsoff turnovers that you needed to, and certainly defensively,
things seem to have even doubt Riley Leonard has started
to become a more prolific passer, but there's still a
lot to be desired. Your win against Texas A and
m is aging incredibly well so when Louisville unfortunately went
out and spit the fit this weekend. But I do
think going forward now you've got a unique opportunity and

(32:27):
the schedule to still be a college football playoff contender
if you use this bye week the right way and
come out on the other side of this playing a
little bit cleaner football and having some of those young
players defensively at the linebacker level, offensively up front of
that offensive line start to take that next step maturity wise,
and maybe get a chance to catch their breath because
down the stretch of the season. Now you look at

(32:48):
the schedule and you've got undefeated service academies. I know,
everyone shrugs off Army in NATS and kind of looks sick.
And then you'll have USC that's potentially a top ten
team at the end of the season to finish that
up because you don't have the conference championship. So Notre
Dame's dreams are all out in front of them. But
unfortunately at this point, based on one Notre names foot

(33:09):
on tape, they are good enough to beat everyone on
their schedule, and they are also inconsistent enough right now
to lose to any of these teams coming up. That
includes Georgia Tech that's can be coming to South End.
Maybe even still a talented Florida State team depending on
what happens, and they have a quarterback change their force
by injury today, so lots to keep an eye on
for them. But they are talented enough and deep enough
in a lot of areas that makes it happen.

Speaker 5 (33:30):
Okay, one more before we let you go.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
Dion Sanders has become the face of college football, one
of the big faces, grooming a couple of his Stars
two way Star Travis Hunter, including his son Shador Sanders.
Is Shador positioning himself to be a top quarterback in
the draft.

Speaker 8 (33:46):
I think so, I mean, listen, I don't know. The
race for number one is going to be interesting this
year because so many of these guys I think were
clustered in an area that didn't feel as high on
the talent as it was with the last crop of
quarterbacks we saw with six going in the first round.
But Shador, outside of just the name brand value, yeah,
I think has reminded me a lot of Joe Burrow

(34:06):
in certain ways where he doesn't have the dynamic, he
doesn't have like Sellar arm strength, but he's got really
good sense in the pocket. He buys time really well.
Shadur is not quite as athletic as Joe is, I think,
but moves around pretty well, gets himself out of trouble,
has good timing on the deep passes, is really poised
and under control when things are breaking down around him,

(34:26):
and unfortunately the last couple of seasons that's been more
of the norm than it has been the exception. And
so I do think he's a guy that so far
and this team is actually you know forgetting the headlines,
for getting all Deon Sanders quotes to the media, like
they've played solid football this season. They've improved drastically on
defense in a lot of phases, and offensively, Chador is
playing really well. So yeah, I think he's going to

(34:48):
be right in that mix with the group. You know,
cam Warden, the season he's having in Miami right now,
Jalen Milroe and what he's done at Alabama, Carson Beck
at Georgia. I was a guy that a lot of
people were on coming into the season, but standards is
that going to absolutely have his day in court to
be the top guy.

Speaker 5 (35:03):
Mike, thank you for joining us and working on your
day off.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
We appreciate you.

Speaker 8 (35:07):
Thanks for having me. Guys, Hopefully there's no more mail
on your screen, Karmen, No hope, No.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
It's going. There's going today. It's it's an epidemic at
this car.

Speaker 5 (35:19):
When we come back, you guys, news and the don'ts
in sports.

Speaker 3 (35:23):

your Saturday afternoon with us. You feel in this one,
KARMI Yeah, okay, I set out of the corner of
my icy spirit fingers.

Speaker 5 (35:54):
I'm like, okay, we're feeling it.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
There we go, just like it in the wave in
the Air tonight, just like kind of builds up. This
song just builds up.

Speaker 3 (36:03):
It's great.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
I love it all right, guys, it is time for
the dues and the don'ts in sports highlight.

Speaker 6 (36:12):
I love that.

Speaker 5 (36:13):
Putting a spotlight on the don't the subject brings me
no joy.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
That's insane.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
It's time for the dues and the don'ts in sports.

Speaker 2 (36:23):
Okay, I'm gonna start with the don't, which I'm not
sure if I have. But this is a funny one.

Speaker 5 (36:28):
Okay, don't take yourself too seriously. Baker Mayfield dressed up
this week as the Ultimate Florida Man. He went undercover as.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
Gus Shwayzee in the Undercovers The Manning's New Show on Prime.

Speaker 5 (36:42):
Hung out with season ticket.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
Holders as they went on a tour, and he just
like everything about the way he looked, he sounded like,
talked to all the bands.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
He's a phenomenal actor, nominal actor. It was incredible.

Speaker 4 (36:56):
He even had like a brace put on his knee
or sweatpants. He had the long fire he had like yeah, he.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
Was so like, he had the nose prosthetic put on.

Speaker 4 (37:05):
Like I have to think if you're a season ticket
member and those are like super fans, Yes, he didn't
look that incredibly different to me.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
I'm like, I that looks like Baker Mayfield dressed up.

Speaker 5 (37:15):
Oh, and you have no idea.

Speaker 4 (37:17):
Well, then he ripped a fifty yard pass in the
indoor and everyone was like, oh my god, Oh yeah.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
That was That was part of the thing where it's
like everyone's face was like, w two have just happened? Right,
Like I'm like, at that point, you have to know
that's Field, right. I love him.

Speaker 4 (37:30):
Yeah, he's such a good actor though. He's so good,
He's so natural with everything he is. All right, I've
got another du Okay do do lean in?

Speaker 3 (37:38):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (37:39):
Cal students, Yes, Cal Twitter Yes has been on fire
the last few weeks. Yes, they are leaning into them
being known as woke liberals.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
But then they showed up college game day. Was there today?
Is there today?

Speaker 4 (37:53):
They showed up early three am. We're talking Marshawn Lynch
was all it was there. He's all pumped up. These
signs have been next level behind the game day desk.
My favorite, the Adams Owners Treaty was a mistake. What
is the Adam's ownest treaty? You would ask, because we're
all not smart enough because we didn't.

Speaker 3 (38:13):
Go to Berkeley.

Speaker 4 (38:14):
It's the treaty that annexed Florida. They are playing Miami.
It's where Spain seated control over the territory to the
United States. And they're just saying the entire state of
Florida just absolutely what.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
Chef's kiss love it, love you calcul That's so good. Okay,
I got another dude, do help those in need. And
this is another shout out. Baker Mayfield Kirk Cousins teamed
up to support Hurricane clean Yeah victims. The quarterbacks and
their families have pledged fifty thousand dollars each to help
the relief efforts. And then we also saw on game

(38:49):
day morning today. I don't know if you saw the
Pat McFee does the like, if you take the.

Speaker 3 (38:54):
Field goal six one hundred thousand dollars.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
This student made a seven hundred thousand dollars field goal.
He got one hundred thousand dollars and then six hundred
thousand dollars went to the hurricane relief funds.

Speaker 5 (39:05):
So that was just like again, let's.

Speaker 4 (39:08):
Go, yeah, let's go, I've got another. Don't okay, don't
be a diva. You might have heard from Martin Weiss
talking about how Romeo Dobs has now suspended one game
because there was some frustration this week. He missed practice,
he sat out of practice voluntarily. And what I do
not understand about this whole situation, Romeo, you have played
two games with a backup quarterback. Your entire offense has

(39:31):
been in flux. Also, your offense is predicated on distributing
the ball. It's why the Packers are so dangerous because
there's so many different options.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
On top of that, I looked up the target share.

Speaker 4 (39:42):
Twenty two targets to Jaden Reid, twenty two targets at
Dantavian Wicks. Yeah, twenty targets to Romeo Dobs. You're not
even getting targeted any less. Really than any of these
other guys. I do not understand being this sped up
this early when you've had a backup quarterback, when your.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
Offense is what it is, which you've been in for
three years. Dude. They did this with dir Alexander last year.
They put him in time out. I commend the Packers
for doing this and for riding the ship, so.

Speaker 4 (40:08):
Hopefully they will go forward. Romeo will learn for this.
Don't be at diva, man. The team is doing fine.
It's still set up. I know they lost to Minnesota,
but fine.

Speaker 2 (40:19):
I love this all right when we come back. You guys,
who's been the biggest surprise in the NFL this season.
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Welcome to hour two
of Fox Football Saturday. AM Alex Curry alongside Carmen Vitally.
We are broadcasting live from the tire dot Com Studios.
Thank you for spending your Saturday afternoon with Carme and me.

(40:39):
We've had some good MLBY postseason action already. I mean,
I don't know if you would call Cleveland crushing Detroit
seven to nothing good, but it's underway and that's happening.

Speaker 3 (40:50):
We got Phillies up one to nothing.

Speaker 5 (40:52):
Over the Mets. We had a shore bomb. That's the
only score in that game.

Speaker 2 (40:56):
First time these two teams have ever met in the postseason,
and I gotta say so, I've been lucky to be
able to cover some Phillies postseason over the last two years.

Speaker 5 (41:06):
That is one of the craziest fan bases I have ever.

Speaker 4 (41:10):
That is an evergreen statement when it comes to any
Philly sports, not just the actual Phillies, but the Eagles, Yes,
the Sixers, yes, even to the Flyers.

Speaker 11 (41:20):
Man.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
We were doing our like pregame shows at Exfinity Live,
which is like the Center, I don't even know what
you would call it, like almost a mall for bars,
like it is an indoor mall for bars and restaurants,
and just insanity with giant TV screens, projectors everywhere of
whatever games are going on at that time. I just

(41:45):
I fell in love with the Philly fan base, like
I love a little bit of crazy.

Speaker 3 (41:50):
They are the reason that I do what I do.

Speaker 4 (41:52):
Dad, my dad's from Philly, my mom's from Phillies. I
grew up watching sports with my dad, with my uncles,
with my cousins. They are all absolutely insane. My godfather
had to go to anger management because of how upset
he would get over Eagles games.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
So this makes sense because my first time experiencing it,
like we were covering we were covering the Phillies game,
and Fox always has like a couple of tickets like
in the stands. I was like, well, let me just go,
let me go feel it out, like in between like
our shows. And so I sat down and there was
this like eight year old in front of us, ended
up standing up on his chair yep, all of his

(42:26):
stats whatnot. And I was just like, uh huh, like
tears of joy. I'm like, this is incredible.

Speaker 4 (42:33):
I had never heard combinations of swear words that I
have in my uncle's living room, like as a child,
Like I was a child in this living room just
listening to my uncles and cousins just cuss out these
guys that will never hear them, no, never know they exist, No,
but the entire mood just fluctuates. It's phenomenal. They're in
an extremely passionate fan base. They are not a patient

(42:56):
fan base. They are very hard to win over there,
very hard to keep happy. But God love them.

Speaker 3 (43:01):
I love it so much. I love you, Philly.

Speaker 2 (43:03):
You got a big fan became a big fan of
the Phillies. All right, we are broadcasting live from the
tire dot Com studios. Tyrek dot com will help you
get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.

Speaker 5 (43:15):
Tyrec dot com the way tire buying should be.

Speaker 2 (43:18):
Now, we have a Fox Sports mlby analyst, the host
of Live and Bat's been Verlander joining us in about
thirty minutes, which I can't wait to just give him
a little bit of trash about his Astros and his
Detroit Tigers that just got absolutely destroyed today. But that's
in about thirty minutes. Let's kick off hour two with
our latest edition of the Quarterback Round Up, because we're

(43:42):
we're we're in week five, we're cruising, We're a little
over a month into the season, and this week.

Speaker 5 (43:48):
We're gonna talk surprises.

Speaker 2 (43:50):
Who has kind of been your biggest surprise this year
at the quarterback position? And both of my big surprises
played each other on Thursday night, Kirk Cousins and Baker
Mayfield NC South is who It's gonna be a fun
little battle this season. But let's start in Atlanta. The

(44:11):
OT winners from Thursday Night Football. Kirk Cousins.

Speaker 3 (44:14):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (44:15):
Just remember he is also coming off the biggest injury
of his career, torn achilles that happened later than Aaron
Rodgers did, and we spent a lot of time this
offseason talking about can Aaron Rodgers come back? Is he
gonna be okay? Kirk Cousins was coming back from the
same thing and also new team, new system. The Falcons
drafted his replacement with eighth overall pick and he has

(44:35):
been showing up and showing out. The last two minutes
of that Thursday Night game was madness, block field goals,
punch out turnovers, down to the last second field goal
to tie it and then the ot win, and Kirk
Cousins was on the Herd on Friday really just explaining

(44:56):
how we got to this point.

Speaker 7 (44:57):
I think you certainly can get to a place where
you feel like the game slows down and you've got
good anticipation. I think that for me, what troubled me
to start the year was I didn't feel like I
had that anticipation or that sense of where things were going.
And each week I've improved, and then I felt like
last night, our offense and my own play kind of
took a big jump forward where I was anticipating better.

(45:18):
I was playing fast, I was quick, but I wasn't
in a hurry, And that's really where you want to
be all the time. But it's just taken me a
few weeks to get there, and now the challenges can
we sustain over the next few months.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
Now, Carmon, you've spent a good amount of time covering
Kirk Cousins and it's time with the Vikings. But what's
impressed you most about Cousins and what he's done this
year in Atlanta?

Speaker 4 (45:42):
I mean, I think it's just coming back from what
a catastrophic injury that was. At the age that he is,
I mean, he's in a spring chicken. He's thirty five,
thirty six years old. That was not something that I
was going to take for granted that he was going
to come back and be the same player. And in fact,
when you see him throw, he still isn't quite planning
on that back foot. You can still see his heel
kind of up in the air a little bit. I

(46:02):
think krisap Street pointed that out on the broadcast. Which
affects the torque, It affects how far the ball can travel,
how fast the ball can travel, everything. But what they've
done a really good job and what's Zach Robinson in particular,
their offensive coordinator Atlanta has done a really good job
of is really kind of insulate against that and Kirk
having to hold the ball, risking getting hurt, risking getting hit.

(46:23):
It's the ball's coming out quickly. Like Kirk just said,
he's moving quick without being hurried or he's not in
a hurry, and that's allowing him to see all of
the different weapons that he has at his disposal. You're
getting Drake London involve, getting Kyle Pit's involved finally, who
hadn't been really involved up until Thursday night. You have
Bjeon Robinson, who is such a little Swiss Army knife.

(46:44):
Between what he can do on the ground and then
you know, catching passes out of the backfield especially, so
there is so much opportunity in Atlanta for this to
really kind of start clicking.

Speaker 3 (46:54):
And that's what you're seeing.

Speaker 4 (46:55):
You're seeing the incremental improvement and Kirk getting a little
bit more comfortable to the tune of averages. This man
threw for a franchise record five hundred and nine yards
in one single game. But he also threw the ball
fifty eight times, so that's that's not exactly the split
you necessarily want to see. Now the game went into overtime,
that's including overtime. That makes a difference. Obviously because there's

(47:16):
extra football being played. You would still like to see
some of this being taken off of Kirk's shoulders. But
Kirk has also completely shed his narrative that he can't
perform in prime time. Just listen to what he's been
able to do. This was going into the game.

Speaker 7 (47:33):
He was.

Speaker 4 (47:35):
Had twenty five and twenty eight passing yards three hundred
and sixteen per game, and nineteen touchdown passes for one
hundred and seven point nine rating in his past eight
Thursday starts leading into Thursday's game, including two or more
touchdown passes in seven of the eight games. So now
you add on that's now eight of nine games that
he's had two or more touchdown passes, and in general
he's had over one hundred quarterback rating in four of

(47:58):
his last prime time starts. So there was this whole
narrative early in Kirk's career that he could he did
not show up for the biggest moments. He has completely
flipped that on his head.

Speaker 2 (48:06):
Yeah, he talked about that too when he was on
the herd, because Starden, that's all he kept he thought
about I thought about it, and he used it his motivation,
and I just I wanted to show like I can
show up and I can be that guy.

Speaker 4 (48:17):
Yet he has been the guy that can't show up
and be clutched for so much longer than we've given
him credit for, as just evidence in all of those
stats and those fun things. And then yeah, you show
up on the biggest night, you have things going wrong
in the kicking game, I mean, young Wayku missed two
field goals, had one blocked. Things were not necessarily clicking
in other aspects of the team itself because the defense

(48:40):
was letting up explosive plays at Baker Mayfield. I mean,
he had three touchdown passes before you could even blink
that that night.

Speaker 3 (48:46):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (48:47):
And yet Kirk still battled back, and then the final
two minutes of that game then over time leading that drive.
I mean, it was just it's I'm so happy for
Kirk saying because he's such a good guy and was
not I think a lot of people in Minnesota knew
how good of a quarterback he was, but he was
still kind of a punchline for the rest of the league,
and now he's not.

Speaker 3 (49:07):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (49:08):
How do you not like fall in love with Kirk
Cousins when you hear him talk. He's just like such
a passionate guy who cares, which is great.

Speaker 3 (49:17):
I love it so much.

Speaker 2 (49:18):
Okay, now let's talk about the other guy who's gotten
take taken such great advantage of this next opportunity obviously
last season into this season, but Baker Mayfield, he has
become the bucks Pirate. He has found his home and
fits in so perfectly. And heading into the game against
the Falcons, he was hit top ten numbers, second and

(49:38):
passer passing touchdowns, fifth and passer rating, sixth in passing yards,
and ninth incompletion percentage. He had top quarterback numbers and
I am just so happy for his turn around. We
talk so much about the right fit, not only like
the quarterback to the team, but the coach to the quarterback,
like everything has to to really mesh in the right

(50:00):
way for things to work. And this is Baker's fourth
team in his career, and it feels like it's finally working.
And it was such a such a like a dramatic jump,
especially for how things ended with the Browns and the
way it ended choosing the badman over Baker. It's just like,
I'm so happy also for this Bucks team to have

(50:22):
a strong quarterback after losing obviously the goat Tom Brady,
who brings you a Super Bowl and it's okay, like
what's next after him?

Speaker 5 (50:29):
Like you got Baker and he can still be himself.

Speaker 4 (50:33):
The Bucks wanted Baker before Tom Brady. Baker was the
backup plan to Tom. If they couldn't land Tom. Interesting,
they wanted Baker Interesting. This team has wanted Baker.

Speaker 3 (50:43):
For a long time, sting so last year, Yeah, when.

Speaker 4 (50:46):
Baker finally gets there, it was instantaneous, like this is
not shocking to me at all, And I realized that
I have a better lens than most people do into
this organization.

Speaker 2 (50:54):
If you're unaware, Carmen was the team reporter for the
Bucks when they won the Super Bowl and for how
many years?

Speaker 3 (50:58):
Six years?

Speaker 4 (50:59):
Yeah, and a lot of those guys that I worked
with are still there. It has let me be privy
to a lot of kind of the behind the scenes
of what has gone into building this team and sustaining
this team after Tom Brady's departure, and Baker instantaneously felt
like he belonged. He set up his foundation with his wife,
and like they bought a house and they did all

(51:20):
of this stuff in Tampa, and they wanted to stay
in Tampa. There was never a doubt in my mind
that they were going to extend him after this last year.
And now it I mean, it's it showed last year.
It's showing even more now that like this is his
team and he is so comfortable, he is wanted. He
fits right in the They went out and they wanted
his input for offensive coordinator. When Dave can Alice left

(51:42):
for Carolina, kind they brought in Liam Cohen, who Baker
has worked with and worked with at that short stit
with the Rams. This is all just a really good
marriage of wanting a guy, making him feel welcome and
making him feel valued. And that's what the Bucks are
so good at. A lot of that team has still
left over from the Super Bowl team. You've kind of
got some of these aging guys. But the connection between

(52:03):
Baker and Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, Chris Godwin finally
looks back to normal last year coming off the knee
injury that I was so worried about him, and now
he looks like his old self, and it's just it's
it's so rewarding to see these guys having so much
fun playing football, and like the way that Baker plays
off his offensive line and how they play off of him.

(52:24):
It's just he's showing himself and.

Speaker 3 (52:25):
He can be himself.

Speaker 2 (52:26):
He can be as we were talking about him, like
doing like the Gus Shoayze saying, like going undercover, like
being with the fans acting weird son.

Speaker 4 (52:34):
He's so interactive with fans as it is like, that's
not that's not something new for him. He's been doing
that the whole time, really quick before. I have to
just mention it though, because we didn't get to it.

Speaker 8 (52:44):
I have to.

Speaker 3 (52:45):
My biggest surprise this year is Sam Donald. Well, yeah,
so that's next. Do we have time, Yeah, we don't
have time. We have time. We have literally he is next.

Speaker 5 (52:53):
He is the most surprised Sam Donald.

Speaker 3 (52:56):
To get to Sam Darnold Vikings who is the most surprising.

Speaker 2 (53:01):
But that huge one over the Packers last weekend, we
both got that one wrong. I think we both pick
the Packers oh that game.

Speaker 4 (53:09):
I have been advocating for Sam Darnold for a long time.
I've been a Sam Donald truther, thinking that he's just
been dealt some really bad cards.

Speaker 2 (53:17):
Talk about making the most of your opportunity and possibly
your last chance to have that starting position. I mean,
do the first four weeks, he's first in passing touchdowns
and second in passer rating.

Speaker 3 (53:28):
Yes, he's well. Baker Mayfield actually is now tied with
Sam Donald. But that's we're talking about the first four games.

Speaker 4 (53:34):
You know, Sam Donald is just the We keep seeing
these examples over and over again of quarterbacks that you
need a good situation when you bring them into the lead.

Speaker 3 (53:46):
You cannot escape that. There are the exceptions. There are
the c. J.

Speaker 4 (53:49):
Strouds, there's a Jane Daniels this year where they do
end up in the situation that they need to to thrive.
But more often than not, Kevin O'Connell himself said it
that we fail college quarterbacks coming into the league more
than they fail us. And it's so true because you're
seeing guys like Gino Smith who's coming on later, Baker
Mayfield who comes on with his fourth team. You now

(54:11):
have Sam Donald doing the same thing because Shart turns
out shocking coaching matters, it does, and Kevin O'Connell is
one of the best that the league has to offer.
We saw it last year when Kirk Cousins went down
and he was literally playing live action Madden with the
backups that he had, Josh Doobbs in particular, who had
gotten there three days prior to having having to essentially

(54:32):
start a game. He didn't, but Jarren Hall got knocked
out with the concussion early on. That was the first
indication just to how good of a coach Kevin O'Connell is.
Sam Donald is the latest example of that, and I
think it's making people really understand and notice how good
Kevin O'Connell is, how good the tandem of him.

Speaker 3 (54:50):
And Brian Flores are.

Speaker 4 (54:51):
As far as coordinators go or play callers go, I
don't think there's there's a team that has a better
situation in offensive and defensive play caller than the Minnesota
And that's what you're seeing, Like the scheme has married
up on the defensive side of the ball under Brian
Flores again for this next year, and then Sam Darnold
is taking advantage of all.

Speaker 3 (55:10):
Of the talent he has around him.

Speaker 6 (55:12):
By the way, TJ.

Speaker 4 (55:13):
Hockinson hasn't even played yet this year. They activated the
practice window. He's with the team in London. He's going
to practice with them. I don't expect him to be
out on the field yet for them to activate him,
but he.

Speaker 3 (55:23):
Will be soon.

Speaker 4 (55:24):
And that adds a whole other dimension to this offense
that's already killing it because Sam Darnald is finally in
a place that is fostering his development and his growth.
And I just think that we really need to spend
a lot of time thinking inwards as to our expectations
of quarterbacks because the college game and the NFL game

(55:46):
is so drastically different. It really, I know the eye
test makes it look similar, it is not not. For
a quarterback. It is so much more difficult than we
give these guys credit for. And we need to be
able to stick with these guys and develop them, have
a more realistic expectation of these guys, because then you
get rewarded with a guy.

Speaker 3 (56:02):
Like Sam Darnold.

Speaker 5 (56:03):
Speaking of that, are you ready to say you're impressed
yet with Justin Fields? Because I'm gonna keep pumping this up.

Speaker 2 (56:11):
Even in their first loss of the season, Field had
three touchdowns, one passing, two rushing.

Speaker 5 (56:15):
Steelers and Justin Fields are first in the AFC North.

Speaker 1 (56:18):
I just.

Speaker 3 (56:20):
But they're still being led by the defense. Still, that's
my thing. Isn't a much better He's in a much
better situation than the chance. He's in a much better situation. Chance,
He's in a much better situation.

Speaker 4 (56:32):
He has a better play caller, he has a better coach,
he has better things around him. He has still not
won a game for the Steelers. The defense has won
these games. The defense, they are a defense forward team.

Speaker 3 (56:45):
That is what they are.

Speaker 5 (56:46):
Got three touchdowns Justin Fields.

Speaker 4 (56:48):
Justin Field has not shown me anything that makes me
think that he is the quarterback of the future.

Speaker 3 (56:55):
Yet he has done better.

Speaker 5 (56:57):
I'm just saying, I'm just saying impressed. Okay, I No,
that's the thing is, I'm.

Speaker 3 (57:01):
Not impressed yet.

Speaker 4 (57:02):
You need to show me that you are, like if
you are going to be a franchise No, it's not personal, Alex.

Speaker 3 (57:08):
This is the thing.

Speaker 4 (57:09):
I want people to hold these guys to the standard
that we're gonna hold everybody else to. If he is
a franchise starting quarterback, then we need to put him
up there.

Speaker 3 (57:19):
With Kirk Cousins. We need to put up in them.

Speaker 4 (57:21):
With Jared Goff, we need to put him up there
with Matthew Stafford, all of these guys that are really
good quarterbacks in league. Before I'm going to go out
there and say impressed, CJ. Stroud, Jada Dato's. At this point, you're.

Speaker 2 (57:33):
Name in like the top half of the tiers of quarterbacks.
There are different tiers there are.

Speaker 4 (57:40):
But if you want, if you want a franchise guy
like I'm going to be impressed if he goes out
there and he shows me that he is the franchise
guy of the future in Pittsburgh. In order to do that, Yes,
you need to be compared to those guys.

Speaker 2 (57:50):
All right, we're gonna take a quick break here. When

up for you at carme v at Alex Underscore Curry,
we got you covered over the ways.

Speaker 3 (58:42):
Got you covered, all right.

Speaker 2 (58:44):
We're gonna kind of keep this quarterback check in going
and we're moving to the rookie quarterbacks, all right, and
we got to start with Some people might say it
was a surprise, some might not. Jane Daniels, you guys,
has arrived. The Commanders were my sleeper under the radar
team this season, but Jayde's starting to look like this

(59:04):
season's c J.

Speaker 5 (59:06):
Stroud as the rookie standout.

Speaker 2 (59:09):
When all of the focus this offseason, this preseason was
on Caleb Williams.

Speaker 5 (59:15):
Right now, Jane Daniels, he's showing up.

Speaker 2 (59:19):
He's fourth and passer rating through the first four weeks,
completion percentage to the first four games, is an eighty
two point one percent That is the highest completion percentage
of any player in their first four games of the season.
But also, like remember, he's he is a top tier
guys Heisman raining Heisman winner, came from a great program,
He's working with a former head coach as his OC

(59:41):
in Cliff Kingsbury. But Carby, what's made him so successful
so fast?

Speaker 8 (59:46):
Ah?

Speaker 4 (59:46):
I do think a lot of it has to do
with the fact that I'm not going to go so
far as to say that Washington is running a college
offense because they're not. But I think Cliff Kingsbury has
bridged the gap between the college offense and the pro
offense very very well.

Speaker 9 (59:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (59:59):
And if you look at at things like Jane Daniels's
average depth of target, so how far he's going down
the field, he ranks forty first, He's only pushing it
an average of six point nine.

Speaker 6 (01:00:08):
Right.

Speaker 4 (01:00:09):
He's started to open it up a little bit more
against that game against Arizona as you see him getting
more comfortable in all of that. But what the Commanders
and what Cliff Kingsbury did so well with Jane Daniels
was ease him in in the beginning part of the season,
give him those quick throws, give him those easy kind
of targets, giving him not having to get through a
bunch of reads or get through his progression to actually
get rid of the ball, giving him the out.

Speaker 9 (01:00:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:00:30):
Jane Daniels has also scrambled the most of any quarterback
this year so far. So he's very good at getting
himself out of pressure, which cuts down on the sacks,
cuts down on the negative plays. What is encouraging to
me because it's not something we saw from him, especially
as last year at LSU he would scramble and he
would kind of tuck his head down and run and

(01:00:51):
kind of get the extra yardage with his legs.

Speaker 10 (01:00:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:00:54):
I was very concerned about that coming into the NFL
because Jane Daniels is not that big of a guy,
and that doesn't work as well at the NFL level
because defenses are just more ready for it. What has
happened now and you've started to see it over the
last couple of games is Jane Daniels is scrambling, but
then he is looking for throwing lanes down the field.
And that is why I am a lot more encouraged
than I think I otherwise would have been with Jane Daniels.

(01:01:17):
I don't think you can call him a surprise given
that he was the second overall pick.

Speaker 3 (01:01:20):
Yeah, but he is. Things are being made easy for him.

Speaker 4 (01:01:25):
You also see him get to the line not have
to really make all of the different checks and calls
and things like that, make all those pre snap decisions
to being taken off his plate by his offensive line.
They are making things easy for him in Washington, and
they are easing him into it, and it has gotten
his confidence. It's not to take it's not meant to
take away from Jane Daniels because what he is doing
is excellent. Yes, he is doing exactly what they are

(01:01:47):
asking him to do. He is also kind of resisting
those big backyard football plays that he did make happen.

Speaker 3 (01:01:54):
In college too.

Speaker 4 (01:01:56):
I'm very impressed with him, But I'm also impressed with
the Commander's organization going through this overhaul that they've gone through,
and the fact that they got the right guy for
the job in Cliff Kingsbury, who is easing this quarterback in.
He is developing Jayden and Daniels in real time, and
that's really all you can ask for. Because the things
are being made easy for Jayden, and I appreciate that

(01:02:18):
the Washington commanders are like competent.

Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
Yeah, yes or no question here because we gotta we
got to move on. Do you think the Bears or
Bears fans regret taking Caleb?

Speaker 4 (01:02:25):
That's an asinine question. It's been four games and saying
game that is such a that's that's an outrageous question.

Speaker 5 (01:02:35):
All right, let's check in with Martin Wise and see
what's trending.

Speaker 6 (01:02:39):
A that's great.

Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
Words are a thing for me. I love wards a thing.
I'm the Bear today.

Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
I'm like whatever, like field stuff, and I'm here just
the CARMI Bear today.

Speaker 3 (01:02:53):
I see, I'm here for trying to be realistic here, guys.

Speaker 10 (01:02:56):
Well, all right now the Crimson tide being poked on
the road by Vanderbilt twenty thank you, thank you, twenty
to seven. Right now, field goal just made four minutes
left in the second quarter. I remember Alabama just had
that big win over Georgia last week. Georgia is not
nearly struggling as much as Alabama, as we'll see if
the criminal taging turned round. But again vandab but with
a thirteen point lead, and I mean they came out

(01:03:17):
first drop of the game. Just scored on Alabama and
we'll see if the Criminals taging turning round.

Speaker 6 (01:03:21):
Like I said.

Speaker 10 (01:03:22):
Georgia right now the fifth rate team in the nation
with a fourteen to three lead over the Auburn Tigers.
The third ranked team, the Alhio Say Buckeyees, just scored
a second half touchdown to take a fourteen to nothing
lead over Iowa. That was seven and nothing going into
the half. They just started the second half. There ten
minutes left in the third quarter. Indiana and Northwestern eleven
minutes left in the third quarter. The Hugers are the

(01:03:44):
twenty third ranked team in the nation, seventeen to ten
to score there again ten to fifteen left coming up
in about an hour and a half off Clemson and
Florida State number seven Pence. They beat UCLA twenty seven
to eleven. Texas A and M beat Missouri forty one
to ten. SMU beat the twenty second ranked Louisville Cardinals
thirty four to twenty seven. Kelvin Jennings had twenty one

(01:04:06):
to twenty seven for twenty and eighty one yards through
the air, ten carries, one hundred and thirteen rushing yards,
one touchdown on the ground. In baseball, the Guardians beat
the Tigers seven and nothing. Lane Thomas for the Guardians
had a three run home run in the bottom of
the first inning. David Frye added to RBI as well.
Mets and the Phillies added right now bottom of the
fifth inning. Phillies with a one run League Kyle Schwarber

(01:04:28):
was the reason why he had a home run at
the bottom of the first inning. Zach Wheeler got to
start for the Phillies, code Icenga to start for the Mets.

Speaker 6 (01:04:36):
He's out of the game now. Peterson pitching, he's on
his thirty third pitch.

Speaker 10 (01:04:39):
Later today, we'll see Michael Waka towing the rubber for
the Royals against Garrett Cole of the Yankees for Game
one of their series. Dylan Cees and Yoshinobu Yamamoto or
the nightcap the Padres and the Dodgers eight thirty eight
first pitch on FS one. Let's see the Packers suspend
Romeo Dobs for Sunday's game versus the Rams for contract
detrimental to the team. Call to downgrade Anthony Richardson to

(01:05:01):
doubtful for Sunday's matchup, and Odell Beckham.

Speaker 6 (01:05:05):
Activated off the pup list for the Dolphins.

Speaker 10 (01:05:07):
Brandon Cooks on injury reserve for the Cowboys after he
had to get after you had an infection in a
surgery he had to get earlier this week, Alex and Carmen.

Speaker 6 (01:05:16):
Back to you guys.

Speaker 3 (01:05:17):
Thank you Martin listening to Box.

Speaker 8 (01:05:19):
I'm starting to.

Speaker 6 (01:05:19):
Cut you off with Carmen, you had something on that.
Brandon Cooks like, this is not just a one week thing.

Speaker 10 (01:05:24):
This is weeks now, right, Like, but I mean like
he's gonna be this is a bit when he comes
back and forth like, this seems like a lot bigger
than just like a four game thing.

Speaker 3 (01:05:34):
Probably, Yes, I don't I don't know what infections. I
don't want to mess with that.

Speaker 5 (01:05:38):
Yeah, right, No, you have no idea.

Speaker 6 (01:05:40):
Do you remember in the offseason me.

Speaker 3 (01:05:42):
Saying, oh, I think the Cowboys need.

Speaker 5 (01:05:44):
More sure definitely? Yeap, very cowboy.

Speaker 3 (01:05:49):
What's happening? Thank you? Marty wanted to listen to me.

Speaker 2 (01:05:52):
You're listening to Box Football Saturday and Alex Curry here
with Carmen Vitally. We are broadcasting live from the Tyre
dot Com Studios in Los Angeles, and it is time
for our next guest. I'm so happy to finally get
him on here. Fox Sports mlby Analys is a host
of flipping bats, Ben Berlander, Bennita Buddy, Hey, how's we going.
Oh it's been a couple of days now, So I

(01:06:15):
needed you on here because, Wow, your Tigers knocked out
your astros. Take me through this emotional rollercoaster that you
went through.

Speaker 9 (01:06:25):
Definitely an emotional roller coaster. Weird, just a weird series
to be a part of, to be a fan of. Obviously,
have so many fond memories of the Tigers and that
organization and so many players that I know, and top
to bottom of the organization knows so many people, and
to play there myself, it's just, you know, you forever

(01:06:45):
root for them, and then obviously we'll forever root for family.
I don't care where he is, I don't care what
team it is. Well, forever root for my brother and
his teams. And to have them collide, I don't know,
it's just weird, you know, Im Yeah, so excited to
stretch the Tigers are on. They had a point two
percent chance of making the playoffs a couple of months ago. Yeah,

(01:07:05):
and I was just on that ride with them, so
excited they finally get in and then playoff matchups the
release and I'm like, you gotta be.

Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
Kidding me, right right, Okay, Well, let's get to the
biggest story I think today is Shoho Tani making his
postseason debut tonight against the Padres.

Speaker 5 (01:07:22):
He's already made history this season.

Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
What are you expecting to see him do in his
first playoff game and just his first playoff series?

Speaker 8 (01:07:29):
Really?

Speaker 9 (01:07:30):
Yeah, you know, I'm expecting to show hey that we've
all seen over the last few years. And I don't
think it being his first playoff game is an excuse
for anything other than that. You know, this is what
you're paid the big bucks for.

Speaker 1 (01:07:45):
You know what.

Speaker 9 (01:07:46):
What's the old saying, to whom much is given, much
is expected. And I think, yes, it's his first game.
I'm sure there's going to be nerves, even if he
says there's not. But you're paid seven hundred million dollars
to be the guy and he has to be and
I think he will be. I expect a lot out
of him. I think he expects a lot out of himself,

(01:08:07):
and I think he was put on earth to be
a baseball player in the biggest moments and We've seen
that in the World Baseball Classic, we thought overseas in Japan,
and I think we'll see it this year.

Speaker 4 (01:08:17):
Ben, Do you think Otani's going to be the difference
in the Dodgers maybe getting off to a hot start
versus the times that they've been the one seed before
and they've had this break and then it doesn't quite
they take a while to get going.

Speaker 3 (01:08:29):
Is show Hey the difference here?

Speaker 11 (01:08:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (01:08:31):
You know, you hope.

Speaker 9 (01:08:32):
So if your Dodgers fans again you have that first
the first round by and last year between Mookie and
Freddie combined, they got one hit in the first round
and there's still question marks as of right now whether
Freddy's going to play in this game tonight. So you
sort of like you're in a position where you need
you need show Hey to be Showhy because quickly you

(01:08:53):
look and pitching staffs not in the best shape. I
feel good with Yamamoto and Flaherty going in one and two,
but you gotta get have to get a good start
out of him. You're already looking at what's on the table, thinking, man,
this has to go right, this has to go right,
and this has to go right. And one of those
things that can alleviate everything is Shoho Tani. Everything can

(01:09:13):
go wrong, but if Shoho Tani is Shoho Tani, it
doesn't matter. He is enough to win games for you
on his own.

Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
Now is Padres Dodgers has turned into a nice little rivalry,
with the Dodgers knocking out the Padres in twenty twenty
the Padres knocking out the Dodgers in twenty twenty two.
Both teams are hot and both dealing with some injuries.
Who are you taking in the series and in how
many games?

Speaker 9 (01:09:35):
Yeah, it's a good question, and Alex is going to
be pissed to me no a lot of Hey, no,
I've really gone, I've really gone back of.

Speaker 8 (01:09:46):
Course of this series.

Speaker 9 (01:09:47):
And I just I think one I think this matchups
at the beginning of the playoffs. If you took all
twelve teams, no matter the league, and just said, what
is the best possible matchup we can get in the playoffs,
I think Dodgers Padres is at the top of that list.
Get Dodgers, Yankees is up there, but I still would
say Dodgers Padres. Just the way these two teams are

(01:10:07):
built for the last few months, I genuinely think this
series is a toss up. I don't think anybody should
be favored, and I think all I think, if you're
the Padres, you have to win one in in LA
and then you really have the advantage. And I think
with their bullpen and their depths in the lineup, I
am taking the Padres and I'm taking it in five games.

Speaker 8 (01:10:28):
Wow.

Speaker 9 (01:10:29):
I just look if you were if we were to
talk who has the better rotation, I think you're taking
the Padres. If you're saying who has the better bullpen,
you're definitely taking the Padres. If you're saying who has
the better lineup, it's really close. I'll give the edge
to the Dodgers because of Shoe Mooki and Freddy.

Speaker 8 (01:10:47):
Right.

Speaker 9 (01:10:47):
The depth in the lineup is probably a little better
for the Padres, but the top three for the Dodgers
are good enough to put them over the top. So
I think it's such a toss up, and I think
the Padres played really well in Los Angeles. They play
great lately against the Dodgers, and I'm going to take
them in a fantastic series. I say, five games.

Speaker 4 (01:11:07):
Wow, You're You're You're ripping Dodgers Yankees in the world
series just away from everybody.

Speaker 2 (01:11:12):
Right in the He's just ripping it away from me
since our preseason predictions.

Speaker 4 (01:11:18):
Now I was gonna say so on the other side, now, uh,
do you think that this is the Yankees like postseason
to lose?

Speaker 3 (01:11:27):
Essentially?

Speaker 4 (01:11:27):
Do you think that these they are ultimately they're the
They're the betting favorites to win the World Series, therefore
the betting favorites to get there out of the AL
I don't see this being particularly close with the Royals,
just given the hitting power between these two teams. But
what what do you think on the on the AL
side of things, how easy or hard is this going
to be for the Yankees to get there?

Speaker 9 (01:11:48):
I do think their talent on the AL side capable
of beating the Yankees. So what I will says, if
you're the New York Yankees and you do not get
to the playoffs this year, yeah, the Astros and the
Orioles were out of the playoffs before you even played
a game. The only teams in your way are the

(01:12:09):
Al Central. If you do not get to the World
Series this year, as the New York Yankees sold the franchise.

Speaker 3 (01:12:16):
I mean, it's failure, cool failure.

Speaker 9 (01:12:18):
I've been hearing about twenty seven rings since I was
in high school, since I was a junior in high school,
and it still remains the same. And you're the New
York Yankees. If you can't at least get to the
World Series with this pass that they have, head's got
a role, and I'm not one to call for jobs,
but I mean it's time for change. If it can't
get done this year, it is.

Speaker 2 (01:12:38):
Well, let's talk about the other New York team, right,
because I think that was the other biggest surprise is
the Mets turning their season around really after Grimas throughout
that first pitch on June twelfth, and then Pete Alonso
go ahead home run to send the Mets to the NLDS.

Speaker 5 (01:12:52):
How impressed have you been with this Mets team?

Speaker 9 (01:12:55):
Yeah, it's just momentum that you can't really explain. I mean,
had everything up against them, They had to go to
Atlanta and then get rained out and then fly to Milwaukee,
and then back to Atlanta and then back to Milwaukee
and then straight to Philadelphia, and it's just like what
It's almost like they've embraced all the adversity that they've
had to take.

Speaker 8 (01:13:15):
On in the last month or so.

Speaker 9 (01:13:17):
Yeah, and there's really no there's really no explaining it.
I mean they're just riding on vibes and momentum and
they're timely hitting and just piecing it together. I mean,
they started code I singa today. Nobody even knew that
was going to be a possibility. So they're just like
they're just riding the hot momentum. And that's the beauty
of playoff baseball is you could get the best team

(01:13:38):
in baseball against the hottest team in baseball. And that's
really I mean, that's kind of what we're seeing right now.
I know the Dodgers are really good and the Yankees
have been good all year and Padres, but like we're
kind of getting the hottest team in baseball against the best.
They're close to the best all year long, and I'm
really I think we're going to get a great series
here with the Phillies.

Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
The mess Yeah we arey. Now that you're your playoff
rocket is all blown up? Who do you have the
World Series?

Speaker 8 (01:14:08):
All right?

Speaker 9 (01:14:08):
What was the question I was going with, Ray.

Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
You're welcome, You're welcome. Who do you have meeting in
the World Series? Now that your bracket is all blown up.

Speaker 9 (01:14:18):
I have, so I still I will say one side
is blown up, the other Phillies is still intact. I'm
going to take the Phillies, the team that I did
pick in spring training to win it all. I'm gonna
ride it until I can't no more. I'm going to
take the Phillies on the National League side of things,
and then I think the Yankees are going to get there.

Speaker 7 (01:14:37):
I do.

Speaker 9 (01:14:37):
If you were to tell them at the beginning of
the year, to get to the World Series, you'll have
to win a five game series and then a seven
game series against somebody from the Al Central, they would
take that in a heart beat. And I think they're
capable of beating the Royals, and I think they're capable
of beating the Guardians or Tigers, and so I'll say
I'll say Phillies Yankees.

Speaker 8 (01:14:59):
All right.

Speaker 5 (01:15:00):
I'm still sticking with my Yankees, Dodgers, Dodgers going on.
Baby yeah, Box wants it. Thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (01:15:09):
I miss you. That was great.

Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
Enjoy the playoffs and everyone everyone tune into flipping bats
watch Benny, watch Benny to thank you.

Speaker 9 (01:15:17):
Thank you both for having me. Alex miss you too,
Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (01:15:20):
On all right, we're gonna take one more break here,
but when we come back, we are making our NFL picks.

Speaker 3 (01:15:26):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
Welcome back to Fox Football Saturday. I'm Alex Courry here
with Carmen Vitally. Hey, we are broadcasting live from the
Tyro dot Com studios in La and I love this
song so much.

Speaker 3 (01:15:41):
It's just like California.

Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
It just puts you in a good mood, no matter
where you are, no matter what you're doing. Thank you,
Cheryl Crow. All I want to do is have a
little fun. That's like my life motto. That's all I
want to do.

Speaker 5 (01:15:51):
I want to smile, I want to laugh, I want
to watch sports, I want to talk sports.

Speaker 3 (01:15:54):
I want to have some fun.

Speaker 5 (01:15:55):
Right all right, Producer Patrick, Hello, oh you know, how
did we do?

Speaker 8 (01:16:02):
All right?

Speaker 11 (01:16:03):
Let me do a quick little dive in that because
we Wow, there's still you are the leader in the clubhouse.

Speaker 3 (01:16:10):
That's spoiler alert. You are, however, okay, miss Carmie v. Yeah,
you're gaining a little bit of some ground here.

Speaker 5 (01:16:19):
Okay, So the NFL picks you guys, this is okay.

Speaker 11 (01:16:23):
So last week it was ten and nine for you,
Alex eight and eleven for you, Carmen, Well, after last
week's five games, Alex you it's not great on dubs
for either one of you. But Alex, you went eleven
to thirteen still leading. Okay or Harmon, you're ten fourteen.
You're gaining ground fast, all right. And with speaking of

(01:16:47):
gaining ground fast, we're gonna go into our first game.

Speaker 3 (01:16:51):
We have in Jolie O London.

Speaker 9 (01:16:54):
We do.

Speaker 11 (01:16:55):
We have the Vikings, my Minnesota Vikings taking on the
Jets in UK and the Vikings are two and a
half point favorites.

Speaker 3 (01:17:05):
Alex, our fearless leader.

Speaker 2 (01:17:06):
I mean, after what we've seen from Sam Donald and
the Vikings, I can't pick against the Vikings right now.

Speaker 5 (01:17:13):
I am going Vikings taking this game in London.

Speaker 4 (01:17:17):
The Minnesota Vikings, I've never lost an International Series game.
They have won every single time they've.

Speaker 3 (01:17:21):
Gone away, and I'm not taking no.

Speaker 4 (01:17:26):
I am rooting for Kevin O'Connell, Brian Flores, Sam Donald,
Justin Jefferson. I'm rooting for all of these guys over
the New York Jets, where the vibes are.

Speaker 3 (01:17:34):
Just still pretty bad. The cadence of the offense Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 11 (01:17:38):
Ya Darman and I have Vikings ridden in before the
segment even started.

Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
I love that. I love the Vikings. Yeah, well, you're
gonna love this.

Speaker 11 (01:17:45):
Next game, we have the Baltimore Ravens at two and
a half point favorites on the road at Cincinnati.

Speaker 3 (01:17:53):
Carmen taken away.

Speaker 4 (01:17:54):
As much as I believe in the Ravens and I
think ultimately they're pretty unstoppable. They're going to go far,
if not all the way to the super Bowl this year.
I think I'm gonna take the Bengals at home. I
just think that they're motivated, they're starting to get there
a little bit more. I think that they'll have an
answer for Derek Henry and Lamar Jackson, given that they're

(01:18:15):
in the division and they're gonna need one.

Speaker 3 (01:18:16):
Regardless, I'm gonna take the Bengals.

Speaker 2 (01:18:19):
And I'm gonna take the Ravens. I mean, they're coming
off a big win over the Bills. I also got
that one wrong last week, and I just you know,
we're rolling with the momentum, rolling with the momentum.

Speaker 11 (01:18:29):
Well, speaking of momentum, in fact, trying to get momentum back.
We have our next one. The Buffalo Bills are at
the Houston Texans. Texans are one point favorite at home.
Alex how we film, I.

Speaker 5 (01:18:43):
This one is such a toss up for me, and.

Speaker 2 (01:18:46):
I'm gonna take the Bills. Josh Allen looking for a
bounce back game after the lots of the Ravens. I
know this is the Dig's revenge game, but like Bills
know how to play against him. Is kind of like
what I'm leaning towards and going with.

Speaker 5 (01:18:58):
I don't know this one. It can really go either way,
but I'm taking the Bills.

Speaker 4 (01:19:02):
You're gonna need to shut down Nico Collins. I feel
like more than anything else the Texans. I'm also going
the Bills though, just because I think that experience wins
out here. And like I said, it was a hard
fut game against the Ravens, and I just think that
the Bills are going to bounce right back because they
keep surprising us right well.

Speaker 11 (01:19:17):
Speaking of surprises, Carmen, the Packers had almost a surprise
last week, but here's not a surprise. They are three
point favorites on the road against the Los Angeles Rams. Carmen,
take it away and tell me why it's the Packers.

Speaker 3 (01:19:32):
Yeah, No, it's the Packers.

Speaker 4 (01:19:34):
I'm taking the Packers just because again, this Rams team
is still fighting through a bunch of injuries, and what
this Packers team does really well is take the ball away.
So it's gonna be very interesting to see them go
against Matt Stafford who gets the ball out very quickly.
Can they increase those turnovers? I think they still can.
Can they get pressure? That's gonna be the biggest question
mark here, But I'm going to take the Packers.

Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
I am also taking the Packers now that Jordan Love
has that kind of first game back under his belt,
He's only going to get better.

Speaker 5 (01:19:59):
Let's get to this on one, all.

Speaker 6 (01:20:00):
Right, Final one.

Speaker 11 (01:20:01):
We got the Cowboys at Steelers. Steelers two and a
half point favorites, Alex.

Speaker 3 (01:20:06):
Are we going Jerry's world or not?

Speaker 2 (01:20:07):
I am running with Justin Fields and the Steelers Cowboys
are dealing with a lot of injuries, including Michael Parsons.

Speaker 5 (01:20:13):
Ow I just yeah, Steelers, baby.

Speaker 4 (01:20:15):
I'm taking the Steelers defense and the Steelers Brandon like
those are bad in.

Speaker 3 (01:20:22):
Dallas right now.

Speaker 2 (01:20:23):
Thank you so much for spending your Saturday afternoon with us.
We'll see you next week, same time, same place.

Speaker 7 (01:20:28):
