Speaker 1 (00:01):
Are you ready to witness quitness?
Speaker 2 (00:03):
College fans, Welcome to the biggest tailgate party in the nation.
Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by Bett MGA,
the King of Sportsbook. We're setting you up with the
information you need to watch your team win.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Let's go. We're here to break it all down.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
This is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by
Bett mgap No.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
We're lyve from your tailgame.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Here's Brian No, former Penn State All American, Rich Morenberger
and pix Wives lead Betty analyst Jared Smith.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Oh, good morning, Welcome in man.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Do we have a tasty slate of games today in
college football? You know what's crazy is we just heard
Isaac lohencron Thro his Top of the Hour update and
Apollo's Rich doing radio in the San Diego area. But
twenty four straight scoreless innings for the Podres, yikes, as
(01:10):
their season comes to an end in a two nothing
loss in a decisive game five yesterday. That is rough,
and I just I wanted to mention that as the
backdrop of college football today is what happened last week,
where you think about how painful it was for Bama
fans to lose to Vandy or Tennessee fans to lose
(01:33):
to Arkansas and all the other upsets. It was upset City, Man,
but twenty four straight scoreless innings, that ranks up there
with any other way to lose Man. That is painful
city right there.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Yeah, it was just a complete meltdown.
Speaker 5 (01:49):
The Padres could not hit the bullpen, and it was
only one game throughout the course of the series against
the where they were able to, and it was Game two,
and they piled up all those runs, and it was
a lot of fun and there was a lot of
excitement because it really felt like the Padres.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Had an edge.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
And then that edge disappeared because after that game, it
really you saw what happened sometimes in college football or
in any sport, the team with more experience in those
situations overwhelmed the team that didn't. And so you saw
the Padres fold. You saw the Dodgers flourish, and off
(02:32):
to the to face the Mets. They go in the
National League Championship Series.
Speaker 6 (02:38):
How much money do you think I could have made
if at the time that the Padres scored six runs
in the second inning?
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Wow?
Speaker 6 (02:45):
Game three, and I would have said, that's it. You
won't score another run the rest.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Of the series.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
That's what happens.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
I'll be honest. I put tweets last night.
Speaker 6 (02:57):
Pos's in baseball is really cool because you're on this
high and it's just this explosive you know, swings back
and forth, and then you snap your fingers and it's over.
And baseball is not that kind of sport. You always
get another day. We'll see you tomorrow, we'll see you tomorrow,
we'll be back tomorrow, and then it's it's over that quickly. Yeah,
(03:20):
I actually thought San Diego was gonna.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Pull that one out. I really did, but not meant
to be.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
That's what's insane about baseball, man, is what you guys
both said, where I always say this, every run that
scored has the potential to be the.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Last run scored.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
And that's really hard to wrap your mind around because
in the moment you're watching a team like the Padres
put up a crooked number and you're like, wow, they're
scoring runs like it's easy right here, and then that's it.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
No more runs. The water is just completely shut off.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Where if you compare that to especially college football, think
about tonight when it's Ohio State Oregon. If Oregon scores
a first quarter touchdown, you wouldn't say that has the
potential to be the last points they score in this game.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
It's just not how it works.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Yes, but that's baseball, man, that's how it goes in baseball.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
If we turn our attention to the three ranked versus
ranked games, okay, we've got number two Ohio State against
number three Oregon, Number one Texas against number eighteen Oklahoma.
By the way, three number eighteen teams in this week's poll,
ridiculous is what we move on?
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Is that true? That is true?
Speaker 4 (04:34):
There are three teams that are all eighteen, and there
are three.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Stupid rankings already.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
There are two teams that are number eleven, okay, whatever,
and then we also have number nine Old Miss at
number thirteen LSU. If you if you ranked the three
ranked versus ranked games, okay, in terms of your interest level,
I would assume Ohio State Oregon is at the top
(05:00):
of your list. Where does it go from there? Is
it Ole Miss, LSU and then Texas Oklahoma? How do
you get down with that, rich.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Yeah, I think it goes that way.
Speaker 5 (05:11):
I think you have it in that correct order, and
like you said, it's Ohio State Oregon with a bullet.
And here's actually a very different angle to look at
this game that I'm curious how you guys react to.
My interest in this game is to see what happens
to two teams that have made an insane financial investment
(05:35):
in their roster. These are basically two full on professional
football teams playing against each other. Now, I mean when
we look at name, image and likeness money at schools
like Ohio State and Oregon, where Phil Knight is he
wants a championship back in Eugene before he dies.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
He's in his early eighties. That guy has more money
than God.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
So Oregon's gonna get everything they need to win a championship.
Ohio State, we know what the Buckeye alumni and fan
base are like. This is like a heavyweight title fight
in terms of name, image and likeness money. And I
know nobody likes to talk about that, but this is
going to set precedent. This is going to set up
(06:20):
future dollar earnings for college athletes. I mean again, this
is going to be one of those things that still
burns on the back burner for a while, but we're
heading to either an impasse where they change the rules
and the wild West is kind of reeled in, and
we have some rules in place that forbid teams to
(06:41):
spend during certain windows, or maybe there's some regulation put
on the spending. But this is, I mean, in no
uncertain terms, two professional football teams taking each other on
and the stakes could not be higher considering how much
turnover we've seen in the top five all ready so
far this season.
Speaker 6 (07:02):
God just called, he's looking for an nil deal from
Phil Knight. Hasn't be bodies in he could use a
little extra cap, that's right. I mean, Texas and Oklahoma's
got this you know, it's got this vibe about it.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
But it's a little different this year. They pushed it back.
Speaker 6 (07:18):
Right, it's an SEC game now and there's another number
one team. There's no surprise there. In fact, that matchup
actually has the third most matchups when one of the
teams has been number one of any other matchup, Notre Dame, USC, Oklahoma,
Nebraska the other two, So that one's got some prestige
to it. But yeah, it's Ohio State Oregon. I think
(07:41):
that's the one that's going to impact the college. But
we'll play off the most it'll impact. It'll be the
first leg up in what is becoming the Big ten race. Now,
I know the SEC is still the SEC, and there's
some SEC people out there that might be really upset
that I say this, But not a whole lot undefeated
teams left in the SEC Big ten.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
No, Yeah, I thought you were done, my bad, But no,
you're good.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
You're good.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
With what Rich was saying, it's pretty interesting because I
can just pick. Let's just say, Jeremiah Smith makes a
huge play in the game tonight, stud wide receiver for
Ohio State. If I'm one of Phil Knight's buddies, I'd
be like, he'd look good in a Duck's uniform, wouldn't
He wouldn't when he looked good in at the Duck's
uniform right now? Because think about this, you're so right Rich,
(08:27):
where Yeah, there's no speed limit. It's the autobahn right
now in college football, and I just want I'm all
for these kids getting paid. I have no issue with
it whatsoever. But I do wonder in a sport that
doesn't have a speed limit, how high the dollar amounts go? Right,
Because Phil Knight could spend conceivably whatever he wanted to
(08:51):
to get whomever in a Duck's uniform or that goes
for any booster around the country where I just wonder
how high the dollar amounts go.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
There hasn't been anything.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
Yet to really make our eyes bug out, you know
what I mean, Like, there isn't a dollar amount where
they're like they're spending thirty five million dollars.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Per season on this or whatever. You know what I mean.
It hasn't gotten there.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
But it just makes me wonder how far away are
we from that time? And again I'm not discouraging the
young players getting paid. I just wonder how high the
money goes because it's gradually getting higher. And with a
game today like Ohio State Oregon, where imagine again like
Ohio State, there's a kid that makes a huge play
(09:37):
wins the game, you can't help but think of Phil
Knight and these really wealthy boosters. They're gonna be thinking, man,
we should have that guy, and we just lost because
we don't have that guy. We should have that guy. Right,
It's just gonna keep growing that way.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:52):
I've been in the broadcast booth every week of the
college football season, and I wouldn't name the but I
can't tell you how many conversations I've been involved with
with multiple college athletic department personnel from multiple different schools
(10:12):
where the conversation quickly goes toward I mean, we don't
know how to keep everyone happy, and it's impossible. So
there is going to be an insane amount of roster
turnover year after year after year. Because every time a
kid throws a deep pass like you mentioned Jeremiah Smith
tonight potentially and a touchdown is scored on a long reception,
(10:36):
or anytime a quarterback has a stat line that you
know makes your eyes bug out looking at the paper,
or anytime a running back has a hundred yard game
or an edge rusher gets a two sack game, all
you're hearing is the cash register in the near distance
going kul jing kajing, kajing kajing, Like, how do we
keep this guy on campus? It is It is going
(10:58):
to be a problem for a lot of schools, especially
schools in the smaller conferences, obviously outside of the Big
four right now, the group of five conferences are really
going to struggle retaining their rosters, but so will the
FBS TEA or I should say the Big four teams
in terms of the power conferences, because like you mentioned,
(11:18):
if a wealthy enough donor at school A ces School
B's receiver and says, hey, tell me how much I
got to put on the check we want him, then
it's done because there's no rules.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
And we just saw this with Vandy.
Speaker 6 (11:37):
Right after the game, Pavia tweeted out as agent's number,
Hey call NIL available, Like it's like an infomercial.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
It's kind of.
Speaker 6 (11:48):
Sick and twisted, but it's also business. And to your point, Brian,
I agree with you. These kids deserve their money, but
we need to do it in an orderly fashion to
where it's not just the ATM get blown up and
kids are in the streets pulling off dollar bills from
the you know, from the corner, like it has to
be organized right now.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
It's not.
Speaker 6 (12:10):
It's chaos. It's literal chaos. It's a literal money grab.
I mean literally, and I know literally people don't like
that word. The guy who is the only nil guy
on Vandy basically said, here you go, here's the number.
Call this number, get paid, like right after the game.
That's where it is. It's not celebrate talk to your family,
(12:33):
do all those things.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
It's get your money. And that's what college football is now.
Speaker 6 (12:38):
It is professional semi professional football. We need to call
it what it is, and we need to treat it
like it is. And again it's it is what it is.
But this isn't love of the game anymore. It's not
not even at Vandy. So it's it's just a totally
different landscape and we need to start framing our minds
to look at it that way, because it's it's not
(13:02):
what it was a few years ago.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
It is vastly different. No, it's it is it.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
It reminds me of as you're explaining that, Jared, like
the radio bits where a listener stands in the little
bin and.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
The money's flying around.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
They have the air.
Speaker 6 (13:17):
They're trying to grab the phrase that pays winning.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
That's the phrase that pays these days. I know that's
what it's turned into.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
But hey man, things have changed drastically, and I know
there are a lot of fans that don't like the
new way. I really don't have an issue with it,
but we've talked about it before. It's like you can
be for something without being for every single little morsel
connected to it right like it has the nil day
(13:45):
and Age. I was an advocate for it. I think
it's the better way to do things. It's only fair
that they get a fair share of the pie. They're
even they're not even getting the pie, they're getting their
own pie.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Yeah, it's and they.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Generate all this cash, so I don't have an issue
with it. But yeah, it does create some things that
are not ideal and can throw you off in any event.
We've got Rich Hornberger who's fired up today, former Penn
State All American. We've got Jared Smith who has just
geeked out of his mind here today.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Ready to go for these months.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Saturday, it really is FSR betting analyst. I'm Brian No.

All right, we're often freaking running. Coming up next, these
teams have to pick up the pieces after painful losses
last week, and it looks like they might. We'll get
(15:00):
into that coming up. It's Fox Sports Radios Countdown to
Kickoff presented by BETMGM.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff presented by BETMGM.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
All season long.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
Bet MGM's offering you a second chance on your first
touchdown bet in the NFL. When a customer places an
NFL wager on a first touchdown score bet and he
doesn't score first, but score second, BETMGM will return one
hundred percent of their stake back in cash. Okay, So
we have a couple of teams trying to pick up
the pieces today. Alabama was upset by Vanderbilt last week
(15:39):
and Bama hosts South Carolina today. Tennessee they lost to
Arkansas last week. Tennessee will host Florida today. And you
know what's funny is you always hear this about the
spot the spot. Is this a good spot? This is
a good spot? To back this team. Just think about
(15:59):
that relating to Bama's opponents here the last couple of weeks,
so you rewind a couple of weeks ago, Obama has
this thrilling shootout win against Georgia, and the very next
week they play Vanderbilt. Great spot for Vandy, you know,
very hard for Bama to get back up and match
(16:21):
that emotional level that they had the week prior. Now,
Alabama loses to Vanderbilt and they face South Carolina today.
Would you rather be Vanderbilt last week after Bama is
writing this high and flat? Or would you rather be
South Carolina with Bama just seething after they lost to.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
The Commodores last week? Vana is a tough spot for
the game. Cox.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
There's no question how to answer that question.
Speaker 5 (16:52):
So I will just laugh along with you and say, goodness, gracious,
good luck game Cox.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
That's going to be a tough Yeah, that's gonna be
a tough one.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
Look, you know what to comment on what you're bringing
up the emotion of the game, and I know that
on this show we oftentimes look at it through the
lens of the better and the spot and the potential
to to sort of jump on a storyline because it
could it could give you an edge and all that
is very important. But equally important is understanding the ethos
(17:27):
of these teams as they make their way through the season,
because if you are better, that is how you can
educate yourself to what goes through a player or a
coach's mind. I think Nick Saban actually perfectly portrayed this.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
He's having a sit down interview.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
I believe it was with Pat mccafee McAfee, I mispronounced
his name McAfee. He was sitting down with him and
he was talking about that that great teams, when they
accomplish something great, the hardest work is that next day,
that next week, getting back up to that level, because
(18:05):
sustaining a fever pitch it's not something that anybody can
really do. You cannot redline it all season long. You
will burn out. And that's what it felt like happened
to that Crimson time tied team against Vanderbilt. I feel
like after the high of that win against Georgia and
especially what happened in the second half, Georgia didn't sneak
(18:27):
back into that game.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Georgia almost won that game.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
You had to make some big plays down the stretch
to keep that game intact. So I mean credit to
Alabama forgetting a win like that, but kaln de Bor
has got to find a way to keep the throttle
appropriately adjusted on his players so that they don't burn
out because those emotional letdowns and you know in Tennessee
(18:52):
obviously the same thing against Razorbacks a week ago. Those
emotional letdowns are real and it is a spot where
betters can pounce. If you look around the scoreboards, if
you pay close attention to a team, there are opportunities there.
But that is the hardest thing to do, is not
only to teach a team how to keep getting better
when they're losing, but to teach a team to keep
(19:14):
getting better when they're winning.
Speaker 6 (19:17):
Yeah, from a betting perspective, the hardest thing to do
is to sustain prosperity. It's easy to bounce back and
not easy, but we are trained. Our DNA is wired
that way to overcome obstacles, overcome adversity. When you are down,
you bounce back. That's how we are wired as human beings.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Prosperity is a little bit tougher. You have to maintain.
Speaker 6 (19:42):
We live in a level of society where people just
like to kind of get by and they're like.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
Oh, wow, I just had this big win.
Speaker 6 (19:49):
Well, I don't have to work as hard the next
week because I just want everything's up.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
It's hard, it's hard to maintain that level of prosperity.
Speaker 6 (19:57):
The bigger question is how is Vanderbilt fair week at
Kentucky as a twelve point dog with a total of
forty four? You know, like the market's kind of screaming
at you that, you know, if you follow the wave
of energy, right, Bama riding high against Georgia, flat against Vandy,
Bandy riding high against Bama, going up that top of
(20:20):
the roller coaster, and now we're looking at the pinnacle
in it's Kentucky on the road in what is normally
a very sleepy spot. Yeah, there's there's something about Alabama's
loss that doesn't scare me about them long term, with
the exception of one thing. And we discussed this two
weeks ago, and it was why I bet Georgia.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
In that game against Bama?
Speaker 6 (20:43):
The defense, the Alabama defense had absolutely no answer. And
the question I got asked this week, like why did
Georgia struggle so much against Bama's defense On third downs,
but Vandy didn't well because Georgia was taking Haymaker shots,
deep shots down the field and knew, hey, we can
beat this team intermediate. We don't have to go forty yards,
(21:05):
we can go eight yards. And Bama just didn't adjust.
So you credit Vandy. But man, I got my eye
circled on what they're gonna do at Kentucky today because
that's a really interesting number.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
Man.
Speaker 4 (21:16):
There was a caller to the Paul Finebaum Show this
week legend.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Oh that was hilarious.
Speaker 6 (21:24):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
He was talking about Alabama and he compared the head coach,
Kaylin de Boor, losing to Vandy. He compared it to
finding your wife in bed with your neighbor, and he said,
you may forgive her, but you'll never trust her again.
So that's where he's at with Caylen de Borr after
he lost to Vanderbilt. That is legendary right there at
(21:46):
top shelf. I'll tell you this, it was shocking, not
just with Bama losing to Vanderbilt, but Tennessee's offense. Jared,
you were talking about Alabama's defense and that's like, wow,
look at this, like they're getting lit up by Vandy.
But Tennessee's offense, which is high flying. They can run it,
they can throw it. They just couldn't do anything and
(22:07):
scored fourteen points against Arkansas. And the way it ended
at the end too, with our guy Iamalaiava where it's like, okay,
final seconds, gonna have to heave one into the end
zone or just run out of bounds.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Okay. Cool.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
I guess that was so fitting to the offensive performance
that Tennessee had last week. That was shocking. So I
really want to see how they looked today. And again,
much tougher spot for Florida after Tennessee looked the way
they did last week.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
That's a tough spot for the Gators, no doubt.
Speaker 5 (22:41):
Yeah, no doubt about it. Back to Bama for just
a second. I want to put a bow on their situation.
Talking from the standpoint of Jeleen Milrowe you know who
when you look at a young quarterback who has I
mean everything in front of him in terms of you know,
a potential Heisman candidacy. You know, there was so much
(23:05):
buzz after that win over Georgia. You look at the
follow up act to a game after Vanny, Now how
he's gonna look because that that pick six in that
game that hurt his team.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
You know, he looked okay.
Speaker 5 (23:19):
He threw for over three hundred yards, he leaves the
nation in passing efficiency. He's thrown for eleven touchdowns so
far this season. But I'm very curious to see how
he bounces back because you're talking.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
About a Heisman candidate.
Speaker 5 (23:30):
You're talking about you know, still a top ten ranked
team in in the SSE or i should say in
the nation, but out of the sec where you know,
it's a war path to get to the playoff every year.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
And you got to remember.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
All of these kids, not all of them, but they're
young men who are doing a lot of things for
the first time. And you say, well, rich Jalen Milroe
played in the playoffs last year. Yeah, but that was
the first time he had done that as a starting quarterback.
So when you look at this season, this is the
first season where he's following a playoff season. So how
do you follow success with success? He doesn't know how
(24:06):
to do that yet at the collegiate level, he's learning
on the job, and so I'm very curious to see
how this all pans out at the quarterback position for
Alabama because games like today's game, you know, and then
as they continue on with their SEC schedule is going
to tell you a lot about the player and the
makeup of jaln nol Roe.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Yeah, new coach, new system. It's been an interesting.
Speaker 6 (24:31):
Offseason for Alabama, replacing a legend in Nick Saban. I mean,
there's just I'm sure he's probably been asked asked more
questions about Nick Saban than maybe Caitlin de Bore, which
you know how often you get asked about the former
head coach more than the current one. Tennessee is interesting.
I mean, we talked about this game last week. We
were waiting for the spot to fade Tennessee. I just
(24:52):
didn't think it was going to be against Arkansas. And
of course it was against Arkansas because Nico has kind
of been showing us these of course it's always the
week before you you jump in or the week after,
but Nico's been showing us these signs. Right, He's faced
three defenses with a pulse, NC State, Oklahoma, Arkansas. He's
nine of thirty three on passes ten or more yards downfield.
(25:13):
I mean, if you can't complete a deep pass and
the running game is good, but it's not as good
as it's been because their offensive line isn't as good
and they're banged up at wide receiver. It's just Tennessee
is not I don't think their offense is as sexy
as we think it is. I think Nico is starting
to show us signs that he might not be the
(25:35):
above average Heisman winner that we expected him to be.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
He might just be a good quarterback in the SEC.
Speaker 6 (25:42):
And that is gonna be a really interesting question to answer,
I think next week when they play Alabama.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
But if he.
Speaker 6 (25:50):
Can't get it done against Florida's defense today, then I'm
really gonna because Florida's defense is a very different animal
than Arkansas. Pittman gets into you, they're much tougher team.
Florida's a little more finesse. So we'll see how he
handles a whole matchup today against the worst defense. If
they struggle again today Tennessee's offense, oh boy, who, then
(26:13):
we might have to raise some redflex.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Yeah, and that's you said ten plus yards.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
Ten plus yards that's just intermediate, yeah and deep. You
know it goes on from there. But that's like a
twelve yard out. That's a dig route. You know what
I mean like that, that's not that's bad. Nine for
thirty three. That should be way better. You know who's
way better than bad. That would be our guy, Isaac
Lowenkron far exceeding bad.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
He's got the latest. What's going on?
Speaker 7 (26:39):
I low Well, thank you so much, Brian, And indeed
we begin with Oh, hold on a second, guys, I've
got a text message here.
Speaker 8 (26:46):
Boy.
Speaker 7 (26:49):
Uh oh, it's actually from the Fox Sports Radio engineering department.
Speaker 9 (26:55):
Isaac.
Speaker 7 (26:55):
We need to do a bit great equalization procedure on
Rich Ornberger's com Rex, please have him remove his headphones
for the next thirty seconds, would you mind?
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Yeah, I'll be I'll be gone. Don't worry about me.
Thank you.
Speaker 9 (27:15):
I'll start the clock for you right here.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
All right?
Speaker 9 (27:18):
That was easy.
Speaker 7 (27:18):
In Game five in the National League Division Series on
Friday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Diego
Padres two to nothing on home runs by Keyke Hernandez
and ti Oscar Hernandez to take the series three games
to two. Dodger pitching held the Padres scoreless over the
final twenty four innings of the series, so the Dodgers
now advanced to the National League Championship Series against the
(27:40):
Mets beginning on Sunday night at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles,
two to one. And in California Community College Athletic Association
Action Friday night, the College of the Sequoias Giants defeated
the Santa Rosa Junior College bear Cubs forty to eighteen.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
You're back with us, Rich Retch, Yeah, I'm back.
Speaker 9 (28:00):
Okay, Yeah, sorry, just run your college updated. Yeah, just
wrap up. So that's what you missed anyway.
Speaker 7 (28:06):
In Major League Baseball, coming up today at one to
eight Eastern time, it's Game five of the American League
Division Series as the Cleveland Guardians host the Detroit Tigers.
The winner faces the Yankees in the American League Championship Series.
In college football, Friday night, Arizona State upset number sixteen
Utah twenty seven of nineteen. Sun Devil running back Cam
(28:27):
Skataboo ran for one fifty six with two touchdowns. The
Sun Devil's now five and one. Finally in the NFL.
A short time ago, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced running back
Jalen Warren will play tomorrow at Las Vegas. He'd previously
been questionable due to a knee Andrea Fellas back to you.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
Thank you Ilo.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by
Bett MGM. How about this matchup, Fellas, You got number
eleven Iowa State at West Virginia. Iowa State favored by
three on the road in primetime time here. And this
is the time of the season where the non conference
(29:05):
games for most teams are behind us. Depending on how
the schedule is structured, you might have one or two
left on the schedule. But for a team like Iowa State,
you know, these Big twelve non conference games are mostly
front loaded.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
So they played North Dakota.
Speaker 4 (29:22):
You know, Iowa Arkansas State, and they had a squeaker
against Iowa. And so the point is, at this stage
of the season, you're kind of wondering how good are they?
How good is Matt Campbell's team?
Speaker 1 (29:33):
And I don't know that.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
We got answers last week against Baylor, Like they've played
good defense throughout the entire season, Iowa State has, but man,
bad teams just find ways to be bad, and that's
what you saw from Baylor last week.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
So if West.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
Virginia can avoid just punt being blocked for a touchdown
and just idious defense, left and right, like West Virginia's
got a shot as a small home today, I'm just
curious to find out again how good Iowa State is.
We might get a little bit of those answers today
on the road against West Virginia.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
Less than ten undefeated teams less left in FBS play,
Iowa States one of them, and they're ranked eleventh, so
on the outside of the coveted top ten looking in
on the road against West Virginia. Look, if there's one
thing you could say about the Cyclones year after year,
and maybe this is I'm thinking more recently, but they
(30:32):
always have a top defense in that league. They always
seem to make it hard on teams, and this year's
no difference. That's what's helped carry them to a five
and zero overall record in a two and zero record
in league.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
Facing West Virginia on the road, tough place.
Speaker 5 (30:47):
To play in Morgantown, but the Cyclones are good on
the road.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
They've won six straight road games.
Speaker 5 (30:54):
So this is one of those the hungry dog runs
faster game like Iowa stay. I feel like is the
hungrier dog here because they've got so much ahead of them.
If if, if they beat West Virginia. They'll be a
top ten team come to come early next week. That's
(31:14):
what's standing in their way. And when you're the opponent
that's standing in the way, sometimes that can give you
an edge. But oftentimes you see a motivated team put
on the steamroller vibes. And that's what I think is
gonna happen today with the Cyclones in Morgantown.
Speaker 6 (31:31):
Yeah, this isn't I wasn't expecting this game to be interesting.
Like when I looked at the schedule this week and
we see all the and we see all the games
on the schedule this week, and we're like Iowa State
at West Virginia.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
Eh.
Speaker 6 (31:43):
And then I started looking at a some of the
other breakdowns that I was, you know, analyzing this week,
and I was like, Wow, this game actually has.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
A little juice to it.
Speaker 6 (31:51):
So the first thing I learned was that the quarterback
Rockebeck for Iowa State, his dad is Anthony Beck, who
used to play tight end at West Virginia, very you know,
noteworthy tight end, played in the NFL, played for the Jets.
He's getting inducted into the West Virginia Ring of Honor today,
ironically enough, with his son on the other sideline.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
So this game's got a little juice to it.
Speaker 6 (32:13):
Night game in Morgantown again, Iowa State trying to go
six and zero for the first time in like almost
one hundred years, and West Virginia losing to Penn State
and Pitt.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
I mean, those losses ain't looking so bad.
Speaker 6 (32:24):
Pitt is like the best offense that I've ever seen
in Penn State's undefeated and pretty good, so I think.
And in the Big Twelve, guys, we saw Utah last night. Sorry, Utah,
this ain't your year in the Big twelve. Big twelve
is wide open. I mean, anybody can win this thing.
Texas Tech, Colorado, West Virginia.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
It's two and zero.
Speaker 6 (32:44):
Iowa State, obviously we mentioned undefeated, So this is a
very important game for college football playoff implications.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
The winner of this game could very well be in
the college football playoff.
Speaker 6 (32:55):
West Virginia looked really good last week against Oklahoma State,
gained outgained the.
Speaker 1 (32:59):
Cowboys are three hundred yards.
Speaker 6 (33:01):
You know how hard it is to now gain a
team by three hundred yards in a college football game.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
That's really hard to do.
Speaker 6 (33:07):
Iowa State has not faced a balanced attack this year,
and I think that's gonna be the question today. West
Virginia can run it, they can pass it. Donaldson and
White I think are one of the better one two punches.
But for Iowa State, it's all about their balance and
they've got it because they've got Sama and this jitterbug
Jalen Jackson in the backfield who are very formidable, and
(33:27):
their one two punch at wide receiver also pretty solid.
Higgins and Noel Beck's top thirty QBR. So this game,
I know it doesn't stand out on the schedule, but
this game has got some juice to it and Iowa
States taking a little bit of money off the key
number three. But I'm sitting on the sidelines for this one. Boys,
I'm just watching. Got my popcorn ready, because I think
this one will have big twelve title implication implications down
(33:49):
the road.
Speaker 4 (33:50):
I like what you said about I didn't expect this
game to be interested.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
I did not.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
It's almost like the girl in grade school that was
just the kind of like there in the background and
you're like, I didn't know you were gonna grow to
be this hot girl. Wow, Holy, that's Iowa State in
West Virginia.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
Here, take the glass with the hair down.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
Yeah, wow, I didn't expect that.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
By the way, I have an anti utes rant oh
for the ages a little bit later in the show. Okay,
if you want to you want to get ready for
that one, you know, buckle up here a mini ran.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
I won't go crazy, but uh we turned our attention.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
Coming up next here with Rich Hornberger, Penn State All
American Jared Smith FSR FSR betting analyst. I'm Pribban and
know we turn our attention to the parly platter. I'm
so excited I can't even speak.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
What hitting at Jared?
Speaker 4 (34:45):
This is hitting today, calling his shot. Here calling a shot.
The only question is how.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
Long are the odds right? We'll find out.
Speaker 4 (34:52):
Coming up, it's Fox Sports Radios Countdown to kick Off,
presented by BETMGM. It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to
kick Off presented by BETMGM. Every time you make a
wager at BETMGM, you earn BETMGM Rewards points that can
be redeemed for things like bonus bets or converted to
MGM rewards points that can be used towards dining, shows
(35:14):
and hotel rooms at over twenty MGM resorts.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
All Right, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
Check this out ar late letter.
Speaker 4 (35:24):
Okay, Jared Smith, When I tell you that he is
geeked for this day of college ball, I absolutely mean it.
I can just imagine the smoke that has been billowing
out of the lab and off of the computer as
you are feverishly preparing for today.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
Show what do you have for us in the platter today? Jared?
I'm so excited not only for this day, but for
this parlay.
Speaker 6 (35:48):
And let's start with Nevada against Oregon State. We're on
the road to Reno, the biggest little city in the world.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
People, Nevada is very under the radar this year.
Speaker 6 (36:00):
Head coach Jeff Schutz done a really good job getting
this team up to speed quick.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
That's the transfer portal, that is the new age of
college football.
Speaker 6 (36:06):
They almost upset SMU in Week zero as a twenty.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
Seven point underdog. Yeah you heard that right. Amos won
that game outright.
Speaker 6 (36:14):
They did beat Troy outright in week one as a
seven and a half point dog grand at a gas
at Minnesota. Tough data point there. Let in the final
minute last week at San Jose State gave up a
late touchdown, lost the game, but still covered. I think
Oregon State's in trouble because last week they lost running
back jam Griffin to an injury against Colorado State. Now
the Beaver's won that game in double overtime. Really tough
(36:36):
bounce back spot here on the road. The Beavers defense
have been inconsistent, Perdue ran it against them, Colorado staying
at over four hundred yards. Nevada quarterback Brendon Lewis is
a mobile quarterback. This is a physical football team. The
wolfback They are going to win this game at home
against Oregon State.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Let's go to the Rose Bowl.
Speaker 6 (36:53):
You Seela taking on Minnesota. Big ten road teams are
really struggling this year, just one and eight when they
traveled multiple time zones. The only win actually was Indiana
against Ucla a few weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
I remember because I was on UCLA in that game.
Speaker 6 (37:09):
We're selling high after that big win for the Gophers
last week against usc improbable come from behind victory, and.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
I've been impressed.
Speaker 6 (37:17):
Ucla quarterback Justin Martin went on the road to Happy
Valley last week and showed well, their bruins are gonna
take it a step further this week. They covered against
Penn State last week. I think they went out right.
History is gonna be made. Ucla gets their first Big
Ten win today, and we'll finish it up with Colorado.
The late night game taken on Kansas State. The Wildcats.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
They don't like to go far from home.
Speaker 6 (37:38):
Case States lost five straight against the spread as a
road favorite.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Colorado was more balanced this year. They actually have a
higher success rate running it than they do throwing it.
Speaker 6 (37:47):
But Kansas State can't stop the pass, really bad at
defending the deep ball.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
That's what Colorado does well.
Speaker 6 (37:53):
So we got Nevada, Ucla, Colorado, all slight underdogs on
the money line. The payoff out fourteen to one over
at that MGM.
Speaker 4 (38:03):
That's about what I felt sixteen to one today for
some reason right around there.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Yeah, which one's going to ruin it towards?
Speaker 3 (38:12):
I like the Big ten road team analysis.
Speaker 5 (38:15):
That one feels right because what you said is absolutely true,
and all of a sudden, it brings back that game
we were talking about earlier in the show. Back into focus,
Ohio State traveling out to Eugene.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
What's gonna happen there? You know, it's it's a thing.
Speaker 5 (38:31):
I look a lot of these Big ten schools, especially
the traditional powers the ones who are nestled in the
northeast or the midwest of our country, making these west
coast trips not so easy.
Speaker 4 (38:45):
You know what's interesting to me is and listen, Jared
Colorado is fully capable of beating Kansas State. But the
thing I think about is the win that impressed us
a week later could look a lot different. You know, like,
the last time we saw him, Colorado is beating UCF
as a big underdog and we're like, whoa, wow, look
(39:07):
big win. Colorado looked really good. And then you look
at UCF and they're getting kicked in the teeth last
week by Florida, and you're like, I.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
Don't know how good that win was? That right?
Speaker 4 (39:19):
So that's how I think about Colorado in a like
a very basic way, is I wonder how good that
win really was against UCF.
Speaker 6 (39:26):
I think that was a really big because we talked
about that game for Florida last week because they were
in the parlay.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
It was one. It was we went two and two
out of three again last.
Speaker 6 (39:34):
Week, but Florida needed that game, like blood and UCF,
you know, yes, they needed it too, but Florida needed
it more. I think, guys, I think Colorado might be
slightly better than people think. And you know why we
haven't heard a word at all from beyond this week? Right,
It's been really quiet this week, right, rich eerily quiet.
(39:58):
And this is the week after you win outright as
a two touchdown dog, and we haven't.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
Heard of wordy. Silence is golden sometimes, right. I do
love the direct TV commercial where the pigeon's like coach pride.
That gets me every time. Come it up next?
Speaker 4 (40:14):
Can it seem this offensively challenged pull off a monster upset?
Speaker 6 (40:20):
Ah?
Speaker 4 (40:20):
Yes, good morning, welcome in here, monstrous day of college football?
Getting you all set for that? We look at the
Red River rivalry. You know it's a matter of time
until it's wyval we you know, get that one out.
(40:41):
I'm gonna hear wival we by somebody today. It's gonna happen.
But we get Quinn yours back for Texas. He's back, baby,
after missing two games with that oblique injury. And the
deal for Oklahoma. Here, let me just be broad for
a second, because I do this exercise with every game
where it's basically just open your mind and your heart.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
Oh, I like this underdog, you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (41:06):
Like open your heart to the underdog, maybe covering at least,
maybe not winning outright. But Oklahoma, they're getting a bunch
of points over two touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
But this offense, man, I mean.
Speaker 4 (41:19):
They put in Michael Hawkins Junior, but the offense is
still a wreck. The offensive line is bad. Their wide
receivers are the walking wounded. They have lost dude after
dude after dude, and you have to ask yourself, how
is Oklahoma going to generate enough points? Their defense is real.
I love Oklahoma's defense, but I just don't know how
(41:40):
they score enough to keep this a competitive ballgame. It's
again the Red River rivalry. So crazier things have happened.
But they're gonna have to get some takeaways. They're gonna
have to be some fluky stuff because I just don't
see how Oklahoma's offense matches points in this one.
Speaker 5 (42:00):
Oklahoma starting the true freshman at quarterback, right, Yep, They're
gonna put in Michael Hawkins Junior after that fourth quarter comeback. Look,
here's here's here's the thing about young players. Sometimes you
don't know what you don't know, and that helps you.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
You know.
Speaker 5 (42:17):
Sometimes you don't realize how big things are until afterward,
you know. And I remember going through this a couple
of times throughout my career as both a college football
player and a pro there were certain things that I
did or accomplished or my team accomplished where it wasn't
until after my career was over and I had the
opportunity to reflect on things.
Speaker 3 (42:40):
Where I was like, oh wow, that was that was
pretty cool.
Speaker 5 (42:43):
That was a pretty big moment, and I didn't understand
the gravity at the time. So sometimes having an injection
of youth and that almost like fresh set of eyes
where you know, he's never been involved in this rivalry before,
he hasn't played college football before this season.
Speaker 3 (43:03):
He doesn't know what he doesn't know, and so if
he goes.
Speaker 5 (43:05):
Out there and plays with that, you know, blissful ignorance.
I'm not saying I'm not calling for an upset here,
but I'm just saying that this could be a more
fun game in theory and concept. Then maybe we with
all of the jadedness that we have for watching football
(43:26):
over the many years that we have, and my self
participating in football and seeing what inexperience can do, especially
at the most important position on the field, I'm curious
I'm leaning into this one because sometimes magical things happens
happen when you put a less experienced player on the
field in an important spot.
Speaker 6 (43:47):
Yeah, it's almost like he doesn't know how big of
the moment is. This is the first time Texas is
a double digit dog in this rivalry since five, which
is when they won the title with Vincian, So that
kind of puts it in perspective just how much the
market perspect is for Texas in this spot the Keys obviously,
(44:07):
can Oklahoma's defense hold up? And can Oklahoma's offense generate
any kind of spark? Let's start with their defense. I
think their defense might be slightly overrated. Auburn moved it
on them. Peyton Thorn threw for over three hundred yards.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
That's not good.
Speaker 6 (44:24):
And the vibe for me going into the season with
Oklahoma is elite defensive mind with the coach. But can
they hold up in the SEC with an undersized defensive front.
I don't know the answer to the second question, and
we're gonna find out a lot more about that second
question today. What Texas's offense does well is they stretch you.
(44:47):
It's like that torture chamber. The medieval torture device. They
stretch the field thirty six plays of twenty plus yards
top ten and explosive play rate bond Wingo Golden. I mean,
these are studs on the outside that will make you
sweat and they will stretch the field. Now, yours actually
is the question mark here, Like, I am full faith
(45:08):
in Texas's offense. Skill, guys, youers off the injury. Arch
Manning was pretty good. I'm not saying he would have
been good in this game because this is a different animal.
Youwers has the experience where Manning doesn't. But arch Manning
looked pretty good. Now Oklahoma's offense, Let's go to the
other side, because if they can figure out some kind
of way to sustain drives, I think that's where they
(45:32):
that's the path to victory here. But Brian mentioned it.
Deon Burk's their best receiver out. Not sure how they
move it consistently without him and allowing Texas just to
focus in on the run. The old line has issues.
They might have found a bit of a spark with
this quarterback, but he's a freshman playing in his first
I'm just gonna say, red River, I'm not even gonna
go to the next you get with it, I'll.
Speaker 1 (45:51):
Go red river like, this is a This is a Texas.
Speaker 6 (45:55):
Defense that I think can can stand up here because
Oklahoma's offense, I mean, you got some really phony results
here minus five and that success right against Houston, they
got bodied by Tennessee, didn't run it well against Dulane. Like,
it's fair to question who Texas has played right their
best offense, face is Michigan.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
Who's Michigan's offense.
Speaker 6 (46:15):
But I think Oklahoma's really at a disadvantage. They're gonna
need Hawkins to play out of his mind today if
they want to compete in this game.
Speaker 4 (46:24):
And that's the thing too, is we always talk about
how a quarterback can compensate for some deficiencies, and Oklahoma's
offense clearly has them. But it works the other way too.
With a quarterback this young in Michael Hawkins Junior, the
supporting cast has to take some of the stress off
(46:45):
of him as well, and I just don't see how
that's gonna happen in this matchup. You're gonna have to
have many Oklahoma offensive players play above their heads in
this one.
Speaker 1 (46:57):
That's just the bottom line.
Speaker 4 (46:58):
And listen, you come from the do your job, Patriots
whole approach to this, and this is a recipe for
Oklahoma for a lot of individual players offensively trying to
do more than they should be doing. You know what
I mean, When you're trying to do your job and
(47:19):
maybe this other guy's job because he's the backup and
he's the fill in guy and he's not doing that
great right now. Now you're trying to do two jobs
at the same time. That's where it can get all
out of whack. So I'm saying two things that absolutely
directly clash with each other, which is you're gonna have
to have some dudes play above their heads. And that's
(47:41):
a bad recipe because when you try to do more
than you're actually obligated to do, things can get completely
off track real quickly.
Speaker 3 (47:52):
Real quickly. And and you're absolutely right.
Speaker 5 (47:55):
There are times in my own career and playing alongside
team where it's very clear that too much is being
tried to happen, and sometimes coaches get caught up in
that too. All of a sudden, you have a little
extra time to prepare for a team or it's a
really big rivalry, and you try to jam all these
tricky new personnel groupings or gimmicks in the playbook that
(48:19):
you haven't practiced all that much much. You're trying to
catch a team sleep in, and then you don't execute
as a result because you're trying to outfox the opponent
and you outfox yourselves. So you got to get out
of the mindset of you have to be anything other
than who you are when you're playing, because if who
you are isn't good enough, well you'll find that out.
(48:41):
You'll test your will against another team. But if you
play your game and you force an opponent to make
a mistake, it's the best way to play. Now, this
is a really good opponent and it matches up well
against Oklahoma. Texas's passing defense was a huge concern last year.
This year it's completely different. They're one of the best
pass coverage groups in the nation and Oklahoma is really
(49:03):
bad at throwing the ball down the field. They've only
completely get this. He passes beyond ten yards this season.
That is fifth to the bottom in all of the FBS,
so they've been on the struggle bus.
Speaker 3 (49:17):
It's a hard matchup.
Speaker 5 (49:20):
So I mean literally, I was focusing on the only
point that I think you can really focus on is
sometimes what you don't know is what you don't know.
And if this true freshman can spark his team, maybe
we could see something special, a turnover here or there.
You know, those things can turn a game around. But
it does feel like a little bit of a march
(49:41):
toward inevitability here in this rivalry today.
Speaker 6 (49:45):
Yeah, the variance of the price, Like, if we want
to try to wrap our heads around why is Oklahoma
misspriced in this game, It's because the market doesn't know
what Michael Hawkins.
Speaker 1 (49:59):
Is yet, and that is the variance.
Speaker 6 (50:01):
I think there's variance with quinn Ewers too, Like we
haven't seen him in a month. He was playing at
Heisman level when he got hurt. Is he still going
to be playing at a Heisman level today? This game
just has a weird way of being close. Though one
score game nine times since twenty thirteen. This game has
a weird way of being close. You know what else
makes it really unique from a handicapping perspective, Perhaps two
(50:25):
of the best minds in the country on opposite side
sark offense venables defense. It just makes the chess match
so fascinating. But there's this game again. It's a weird,
funky game. Usually it's played at eleven AM Central in
Dallas to push back this year, so a little bit
(50:47):
more build up to the climax. Usually it's a close game.
Oklahoma's won four out of five, but Texas actually has
the scoring margin because they beat him forty nine nothing
two years ago. So it's just like, are we gonna
see that explosion today from Texas? Texas has the ability
to win this game forty nine nothing? They absolutely do.
(51:08):
Are they going to? Probably not, but.
Speaker 1 (51:10):
They absolutely have the ability to win it by that margin.
Speaker 6 (51:14):
The two things, and it's not rocket science quarterbacks yours?
Speaker 1 (51:17):
Is he healthy? Does he look good?
Speaker 6 (51:19):
And can Michael Hawkins Junior play above the back of
his baseball card which says you're a true freshman playing
in your first Red River game, get on the bench, kid.
Can can he bring it and give you that element
that Oklahoma's been missing.
Speaker 1 (51:32):
On offense all season?
Speaker 3 (51:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (51:34):
That's the thing too.
Speaker 4 (51:34):
I started this trying to open my heart to the
Sooners and the other dogs year.
Speaker 1 (51:41):
Yeah, and it's closed.
Speaker 4 (51:42):
It's really tough to do so because one last thing
I'll add is when we start looking at these games
and we're trying to pick the right side and all
of that, I think you get further and further and
further away from your mentality if you were playing in
this game. Right, So consider this with Quinn Youewers, Texas quarterback.
So he's missed the last two games, he's itching you
(52:05):
get back on the field. And last year against Oklahoma,
Texas lost and Quinn Youwers was sacked five times and
you know he threw two interceptions. So Quinn Youewers is
absolutely dialed in to this. What could there be a
little bit of rust because he hasn't been on the
(52:26):
field for a couple of weeks. Sure, but I think
that's something important to consider, is if you were Quinn Youwers,
think about your level of focus in this game when
you didn't play well last year against the same opponent
in a loss. Right, that's something else to consider when
you're thinking about, Man, Texas, I gotta lay sixteen and
(52:47):
a half in a rivalry game.
Speaker 6 (52:50):
And that's a lot of fourteen yesterday, a lot of
Texas money last twenty four hours.
Speaker 1 (52:55):
I know.
Speaker 4 (52:56):
But just when you start thinking that's a lot of points,
is think about if you're in Quinn yours shoes and
you didn't play well in a loss last season, And
think about what Michael Hawkins Junior is facing with the
lack of a supporting cast around him, that all of
a sudden sixteen and a half doesn't seem as gigantic
as it might initially seem.
Speaker 5 (53:17):
Well, I'm gonna read this quick stat to you, guys,
and you do with it what you want. Oklahoma ranks
inside the bottom twenty in Power five passing grade, pass
blocking grade, and receiving grade.
Speaker 1 (53:29):
Good lord.
Speaker 3 (53:30):
Only six teams.
Speaker 5 (53:31):
In the Power Five are throwing for fewer yards per
game than Oklahoma. When you can't throw the ball in
today's college football, you cannot win. And when you can't
win and you're playing against a good defense and an
offense that is capable of piling up points, you can
get blown out. So again, it's rivalry game. That's a
(53:54):
lot of points to cover up. But if there is
a lean, it's decidedly a Texas Lean.
Speaker 3 (54:01):
Billy talking through it with you, guys.
Speaker 6 (54:03):
Yeah, And that's the beauty of doing these shows is
I might come into games very undecided, and then we
kind of kick it around the horn a couple times,
and I'm like, yeah, you know, I don't really know
what the path is for Oklahoma here, but all right,
Sooner fans, if you're listening out there, here's the bright side.
Speaker 1 (54:21):
Texas led at home in the third quarter fourteen to six.
Speaker 6 (54:26):
To Mississippi State. Go watch a quarter of any Mississippi
State game this year. Yeah, Brian said it right. Wolf
is the word I would use. They haven't faced an
offense this year inside the top seventy in total yards.
So again, these games have a weird way of being funky. Right,
one score game nine times.
Speaker 1 (54:45):
In the last decade.
Speaker 6 (54:47):
But what's the path like, I'm trying to envision the
path for Oklahoma. It's gotta be Hawkins making plays with
his legs, and I think rich you said it. Turnovers right,
not the Apple variety will save those for Thanksgiving. Figure
out a way to make quinn Ewers, get them off
the spot, make a mistake and get the ball back
(55:09):
into Hawkins's hands and hot take a lead. First of all,
don't put them in a negative game script. But it's
got to be a perfect It's got to be like
the perfect game. You gotta go out there like Drek's
schubel Man. You got to bring the gas.
Speaker 1 (55:22):
I prefer cherry turnovers myself. I don't I've ever had
a cherry turnover. I don't even know they made them.
Speaker 4 (55:31):
Well side ran here, Okay, shout out to my mother,
Mama derist over here right, because she used to make
tremendous cherry turnover. These these bums got rid of them.
And so it's not quite like the old school cherry turnovers.
There's sort of new school and they're still very good,
but not quite like the old school. They're a little
(55:52):
bit more like croissants sort of, and they still have
the filling a good still good, still good, not as good,
but still good. We've got Rich Ornberger, Penn State All American.
We've got Jared Smith FSR betting analyst. I'm Brian No.

Speaker 4 (56:50):
We'll get into that with Seamus, and he might have
an FCS special for us, who knows. So we'll cover
both ends of the spectrum here. It is Fox Sports

Speaker 4 (57:26):
Yes, we are following the money with our good friend
Seamus McGee, team Lead of Sports Trading at BETMGM.
Speaker 1 (57:33):
Okay seamous.
Speaker 4 (57:34):
So we got a tasty menu today, three ranked versus
ranked games. Between those three games, which game has caught
your attention the most from a betting perspective.
Speaker 8 (57:46):
Hey, guys could be back here. I mean it's it
is a really good slate. I think it's got to
be the ohighest state Oregon games. It's just the playoff implications,
the big ten implications that could have in the and
what we're seeing on this from Venic perspective is huge,
definitely going to be. It looks like our most back
game of the day right now. Yeah, we're taking some
(58:08):
Oregon money in the last twenty four hours to kind
of offset a bit of how much of a need
they were coming into today. But it's a lot of
money line plays on Ohio State as well. I think
Oregon winning this game out right would be best for
the book here.
Speaker 6 (58:23):
And it's funny because Shamus, early in the week I
saw a lot of sharp people on Oregon A plus
four plus four and a half, and now that that
line is kind of sitting at three, you're right, I
would not be shocked if we see a big and
I heard a little rumble that one Organ's best pass
rushers might have got hurt in practice this week. We'll
get to that a little later in the show when
we preview that game. Let me guess you also need
(58:44):
South Carolina today against Alabama.
Speaker 8 (58:49):
Very much so. It's it's probably one of our biggest
needs I think of the day specifically at plus twenty
one and a half, we're up to plus. We're uped
at twenty two and a half.
Speaker 3 (59:02):
Now.
Speaker 8 (59:02):
I can't imagine we'll still attract much South Carolina money
even being you know, twenty one, you know, a point
and a half of the hook you asked me about, Like, good,
what's the parlay we need to, you know, save my
job here at Memka. I think it's South Carolina plus
twenty one and a half and the and the Kansas
State money line probably a connect.
Speaker 3 (59:26):
Interesting.
Speaker 5 (59:26):
Hey, so Jared brought up a stat that Big Ten
teams during these road trips cross country have struggled. Penn
State going to the coliseum to face the Trojans, a
pretty heavily bet ticket is Penn State minus three and
a half. How do you feel about the Nitney Lions
on the road.
Speaker 8 (59:45):
It's definitely pros Verst shows out in California today, a
lot of public play on Penn State this week, and
the sharps are definitely on USC. This at touched five
and a half earlier in the week, and sharp money
brought this down to three and a half. So right
now we're gonna need USC, but definitely lots of sharp
money on USC.
Speaker 4 (01:00:07):
You know, seame as you mentioned Colorado being a popular
play if you look at the top ten teams, not
necessarily just this week, but in general, is there a
top ten team that's the least popular team in terms
of handle and support?
Speaker 8 (01:00:24):
Oh, I mean it is kind of tough. Kansas State
probably won for a while, like Utah wouldn't get much action.
It depends. It's like Clemson's and there comeson depends on
who they're playing on the week, Like this comes in
weight game isn't attracting like a ton of betters. But
I'd say Kansas State has to be one team to
throw in there. And then yeah, I'd probably say Utah
(01:00:48):
lost again last night, but they were certainly one team
that was like that.
Speaker 6 (01:00:52):
Yeah, Cameron Rising looks like a quarterback that hasn't played
in two years. I think we know we all need
to just you know, pump the Brakes on moving the
number down. If Cam and Rising's not playing, that's it's
just I mean, he looked awful last night. I'll give
you a top twenty team that you probably aren't getting
a lot of low for today, and that's the team
we just talked about a couple of segments ago. The
Oklahoma Sooners massive dog today against Texas. We know it's
(01:01:12):
a neutral site, but man, I could see that one
getting out of hand quickly if that Oklahoma offense does
not come to play.
Speaker 8 (01:01:20):
Yeah, it's one way traffic on the Longhorns right now.
We're starting to see some tuner money come in on
fourteen and a half. There's a decent amount of people
buying a point down at thirteen and a half on Texas.
But we're definitely going to need Oklahoma today to cover
two touchdowns, Seamus.
Speaker 5 (01:01:39):
With this Ohio State Oregon game, obviously all of our
attentions are going to be on that, but also on
the scoreboard, it feels like an overspot ares did the number.
Speaker 3 (01:01:51):
Get two overinflated though? This week?
Speaker 8 (01:01:54):
Well, yeah, that's an interesting one. It seems like in
these big games, you know, the defense locks up a
little bit, but it's definitely been a favorite for the
Sharp this week. We opened this at fifteen and a
half and we're currently up to fifty four and a
half with money still coming in on the over, so
we're gonna need the under. Fifty two and a half
I think would be probably best for us right here.
Speaker 4 (01:02:16):
You know, Seamus, We're always trying to get rich over here,
and I'm curious with today's slate being as great as
it is, the shame is special. Are you going big
game hunting or giving us like Incarnate word or some
FCS play over here.
Speaker 8 (01:02:32):
I'm gonna I'm gonna meet you somewhere in the middle. Here.
We have the wrong team favorite in Eastern Michigan. Miami Ohio. Guys,
Eastern Michigan. I think it's gonna be came out right
Miami Ohio. There's a lot of hype for this team
coming into the season for the MAC, but I just
haven't seen it yet. I think Eastern Michigan might be
a little underrated. So I think I'm taking to the
(01:02:54):
Eastern Michigan money line today.
Speaker 3 (01:02:56):
Okay, all right, very.
Speaker 1 (01:02:57):
Well done, Seamus enjoyed the games Man will catch you.
Speaker 8 (01:03:00):
Soon, guys.
Speaker 1 (01:03:02):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:03:03):
There he is Seamus McGee, team lead of sports trading
at bet MGM. So I've got some good news. I've
got some bad news. Which would you like?
Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
First? Always bad news first, bad news first.
Speaker 3 (01:03:13):
Rich Hornberger? Yeah, always bad news.
Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
First, Rich is leaving us.
Speaker 6 (01:03:17):
Okay, that's Laramie has called and has taken its first
victim today.
Speaker 3 (01:03:22):
That's right.
Speaker 5 (01:03:23):
Listen, I'm in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I have no idea how
far that is from Laramie. Laramie is where the game
that I'm calling is being played, and so I don't
know if I'm busting it, if I'm walking it, but
I gotta go, gotta got it.
Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
Hey man, I'm Jeamy, you know. Oh poor Laramie.
Speaker 4 (01:03:43):
The gig calls, So we'll miss you the second half
of the show. Here, Rich, we've got your rapid Fire pits,
so we will Yeah, we'll relay that at the end
of the show.
Speaker 1 (01:03:52):
But have a good game.
Speaker 4 (01:03:54):
I will say, Rich, this is probably a jerk statement,
but I'm thinking about laying the one and going with
Yoming here in rapid Fire.
Speaker 1 (01:04:02):
Oh wow, I.
Speaker 3 (01:04:03):
Knew it the whole way.
Speaker 1 (01:04:05):
We were We had sure you weren't around the show. Yeah,
Hay to make sure you weren't around.
Speaker 3 (01:04:08):
If that's it. Yeah, I've been.
Speaker 1 (01:04:11):
Yeah, now I have to go.
Speaker 3 (01:04:14):
Good luck.
Speaker 1 (01:04:15):
Yeah, we'll catch it soon.
Speaker 3 (01:04:17):
Rich.
Speaker 4 (01:04:18):
But the good news is we've got Isaac Lohan. Yeah,
I low with the latest. That's gotta ease some of
the paint. It's it's kind of like back team on
a cut. You know, it might sting at first, but
it's helped, absolutely helpful.
Speaker 1 (01:04:33):
I low with the latest.
Speaker 7 (01:04:34):
Here our top story. It is forty eight point seven
miles between War Memorial Stadium and Cheyenne Wildman.
Speaker 1 (01:04:43):
Why they book these Mountain West games so far from
this state?
Speaker 9 (01:04:46):
Just a straight shot on I eighty. Is he still
with us? Or did he already?
Speaker 3 (01:04:51):
All right?
Speaker 7 (01:04:51):
He just actually pulled onto I eighty according to our
Fox Sports Radio proprietary tracking equipment. Well, because, unfortunately, which
is no longer with us for today, I get to
not beat around the bush and go right to Game
five of the National League Division Series on Friday night
saw the Los Angeles Dodgers to beat the San Diego
Padres two to nothing. Got home runs by keyk Hernandez
(01:05:13):
and ti Oscar Hernandez. The Dodgers win the series three
games to two. Their pitching staff held the Padres scoreless
over the final twenty four innings of the series. They
advanced to the National League Championship Series against the Mets,
beginning on Sunday night in La. Coming up today at
oneh eight Eastern time, it's Game five of the American
(01:05:33):
League Division Series, the Cleveland Guardians hosting the Detroit Tigers.
The winner advances to the American League Championship Series against
the Yankees. And college football, on Friday night, Arizona State
knocked off sixteenth thranked Utah twenty seven to nineteen. Sun
Devil running back Cam Skataboo ran for one fifty six
with two touchdowns for the now five and one Sun Devils.
(01:05:54):
Finally in the NFL, this morning, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced
that running back Jalen Warren will play hey tomorrow at
Las Vegas.
Speaker 9 (01:06:01):
Warren had previously.
Speaker 7 (01:06:02):
Been questionable due to a knee andrey not to two
thirds of you.
Speaker 4 (01:06:09):
Thank you, I love appreciate that. Isaac Lohan cronin with

of the games that you've got circled here, Jared, We've
got number eighteen Kansas State at Colorado. Both teams are
(01:06:54):
four and one, and hey man, Kansas State last week
just opened up a can against Oklahoma State. The Cowboys
have had their struggles, but that was an impressive performance
by k State Avery Johnson. He's a great blend of
passing and running ability. And against Colorado's defense, which was
(01:07:18):
surprisingly really good against UCF that has this great rushing attack.
I want to see if Colorado can double down, right,
can they slow down Kansas State's rushing attack When a
quarterback again is a big part of the rushing formula, That's.
Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
Gonna be a tough task for the Buffs here today.
It really is.
Speaker 6 (01:07:40):
And I had this game pulled up on the Advanced
Metrics this week, and I was a little surprised at
how good Colorado was in some of the trench warfare
that we don't typically associate them with. Now we know
Kansas State's a tough football team. They're good on defense,
they could run the ball, they're not as good passing it.
But Avery Johnson has this ability to kind of create
(01:08:01):
and that's where their passing game becomes more dangerous. He's
outside the pocket, he you know, breaks contained. But Colorado,
surprisingly and again maybe we were wrong about how good
Colorado is in the trenches because coming into the season
I felt the same way about Colorado as I did
last year. They're a finesse offense. Should Or Sanders the
(01:08:23):
weapons on the outside, but can they win a tough,
gritty football game. I'm changing my opinion a little bit
because they actually have a higher success rate running it
this year than throwing it, significantly higher. So it's kind
of a throwback Colorado team, as weird as that sounds.
Speaker 1 (01:08:40):
Oh, by the way, they still have.
Speaker 6 (01:08:41):
Should Or Sanders, and they still have Travis Hunter, and
they still have Jimmy Horn. They have all these other
great weapons on the outside The question is can Colorado
bow their necks against the run. They have yet to
allow a hundred yard rusher or receiver this year. How
about that Colorado's defense They allowed that eleven out of twelve.
Speaker 1 (01:09:02):
Games last year.
Speaker 6 (01:09:03):
So maybe when we adjust our ratings, maybe we're a
little bit slow to adjust on Colorado's defense because of
just our perception and our bias. But maybe coach Primes
got this defense playing a little tougher than we expect.
Kansas State's defense gave up over three hundred and sixty
(01:09:25):
yards to Alan Bowman, and Oklahoma State through the air
gave up three forty two to Tulane's freshman Darien Mensa.
If they're giving up those numbers to Bowman and Mensa,
imagine what Sanders can do today. So I think if
this defense for Colorado plays better than maybe what the
expectation is, I think the wrong team might be favored here.
Speaker 4 (01:09:47):
You know, the if game can get you in trouble,
but it can also be a handy tool. Okay, so
just consider the if game with Colorado. How do you
feel about Colorado just in general? If they don't complete
a hail Mary against Baylor?
Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (01:10:08):
At home, right, Like, think about where you would be, Yeah,
you would definitely feel differently about them. And that was
I'm still stunned that Baylor gave that up and props
to Shaduur Sanders and the Buffs making the play. But
I think you can give praise to the Buffs at
the same time as criticized Baylor for allowing that play
(01:10:29):
to happen. Is how do you give up a hail
Mary like that? So if Colorado loses that game, they're
three and two at best, and I think that really
does change the perception of what Colorado is. I think
what Colorado is. They've impressed us. They're better defensively than
many thought they would be. But if you look at
(01:10:50):
the flip side to it, they got punked by Nebraska
in the first half. Nebraska that was clearly domination in
the trenches. And so we're really basing a lot of
this love for Colorado's defense on is they were surprisingly
really good against UCF. Is that enough for you to
(01:11:11):
like maybe go above and beyond with your praise for
their defense. I would say, no, I need to see
more out of that defense to truly buy in. I
will buy that they're better than expected. But how much
better is the question, And I would say not much,
not much compared to what we thought.
Speaker 1 (01:11:30):
Not by leaps and bounds.
Speaker 4 (01:11:31):
Maybe that's the best way, and it might show up
today against Avery Johnson and an attack that Listen, man,
if you're not slowing down the run, it's going to
be a long evening. I think they're capable of slowing
them down, but I'm not quite bought in yet, If
that makes sense to.
Speaker 6 (01:11:45):
You, Yeah, I think the thing I've been most impressed
with is the adjustments made by Robert Livington, the defensive coordinator.
They've been better in the second half of games this year,
and I think it was a low bar. So when
you are so bottom of the barrel defensively, which is
where they work kind of for the most part of
last year, and then all of a sudden you're now
(01:12:07):
a middle of the pack team, that's a big improvement.
Speaker 1 (01:12:11):
That's a big improvement.
Speaker 6 (01:12:12):
And I know in your mind you're like, well, there's
still an average to maybe slightly below average defense.
Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
But when they were competitive last.
Speaker 6 (01:12:21):
Year in a lot of these games with no defense,
like nothing, and now you raise that bar to where
it's competing, it changes what you can do.
Speaker 1 (01:12:32):
On the other side.
Speaker 6 (01:12:33):
It changes the schemes, it changes what you can bring,
and I think how they handle the running game with
Johnson and Gidtins is obviously going to be the key today.
I think that's one of the better quarterback running back
duos in the country in terms of running the football.
The big problem for Sanders is he takes too many
sacks and he's holding on to it too long. Well,
if Colorado can run it, it kind of neutralizes that
(01:12:55):
a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:12:56):
The one X factor here is the road environment.
Speaker 6 (01:13:00):
As I mentioned in the parlay platter segment, Kansas State
is not good.
Speaker 1 (01:13:04):
As a road favorite.
Speaker 6 (01:13:05):
They've lost five straight against the spread as a road favorite.
Their only win cover was a win against Kansas They
didn't cover, but they won the game. They don't cover
on the road, and that I think is where I'm concerned,
because if you're not covering three and a half, are
you going to be relied upon to win the game?
(01:13:27):
I think the only way to play this and betting
perspective is to bet Colorado. If you really want to
get cute, you bet Colorado in the futures market with
Travis Hunter, because if Colorado wins this game. Here's the
schedule the rest of the year for Colorado. We talked
about Utah on the Big Twelve. They're done. Colorado goes
to Arizona, then they host Cincinnati, then they go to
(01:13:50):
Texas Tech, who might be the best team in the
Big Twelve, by the way. Then you taught home at
Kansas home against Oklahoma State. I don't know if they're
dogs for the rest of the year unless at Texas Deck,
but they're rated higher than Texas Deck right now. But
we'll see what Texas Deck does over the next couple weeks.
So my point being, this might be the last chance
you get to bet Colorado as a dog the rest
of the year. Now, if they lose, you'll probably get
(01:14:10):
another chance. But it feels like the tipping point is
this week. If Colorado wants to win the Big Twelve,
they have to win this game this week.
Speaker 1 (01:14:19):
If they win this week, maybe.
Speaker 6 (01:14:21):
They're the favorite to win the Big Twelve, depending on
what Iowa State does and Kansas or Colorado does not
have to face Iowa State this year, which I think
is a big miss on their schedule.
Speaker 4 (01:14:29):
Last thing, real quick about Colorado's defense, So they're eighth
in the nation in takeaways, which is great. They're taking
the football away from their opponent. They forced four turnovers
against UCF. So there are two ways to look at that.
When you're taking the ball away, that's obviously great for
your defense, great for your team. But what's their defense
if they're not taking the ball away?
Speaker 1 (01:14:51):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:14:51):
Like staying that, Yeah, if Kansas State protects the football,
where is Colorado's defense then?
Speaker 3 (01:14:58):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:14:58):
And we might get the answer that a little bit
later tonight. All right, he's Jared Smith FSR betting analyst.
I'm Brian Nell coming up next. Prop it Up. We'll
look at the prop betting market. Lots of different angles.
It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff presented by BETMGM.
Speaker 1 (01:15:14):
It is Fox Sports.
Speaker 4 (01:15:15):
Radios Countdown to Kickoff presented by BETMGM. Once a day,
Monday through Friday. Play the free to play bet MGM
Ultimate Teams to receive an Ultimate Team's card with the
pro football team and spread that team covers the spread
that NFL week. You can win prizes. Play every day
Monday through Friday. Have all five of your team's cover
and you're eligible to win betmgm's weekly jackpot. All right,
(01:15:39):
let's dive into this prop.
Speaker 10 (01:15:43):
It up plays Yes, the prompt vet market, Jared, we
have a lot to get to, man, what's something you
have circle today?
Speaker 3 (01:15:53):
Man?
Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
We have so many today. I went back to this prop.
Speaker 6 (01:15:57):
I lost on it last week, but it's you like
a handicap and it didn't go your way, but you
dive into the numbers and you're like, eh, you know,
a couple of bounces and I could have had it,
and then you get a better number next week.
Speaker 1 (01:16:09):
Oh you know, I'm going right back to it.
Speaker 6 (01:16:11):
Jackson Dark under twenty nine and a half rush yards
again fortunate. Last week the old line struggled against South Carolina.
They allowed twelve pressures, but Dart took only one sack.
His total was twenty three and a half. Last week
we went under. He finished with forty four. So not
saying he should have went under, but he should have
been sacked more than once last week.
Speaker 1 (01:16:31):
I think his luck turns tonight in Death Valley.
Speaker 6 (01:16:34):
I think the road environment is why I really like
betting on guys to get sacked, because tough to hear,
the snap counts, offensive line maybe a step slow off
the ball, and LSU is a really good pass rushing
team top twenty in PFF pass rush Grade. They have
fifteen sacks over four per game in the last three.
The pass rush really starting to heat up, Swinton and
(01:16:55):
Jones five each. So I think even though the running
game for Jackson Dark is obviously a big part of
the Old Miss offense, I think the sacks play a
bigger factor this week, and we're getting a better number.
Speaker 1 (01:17:06):
So under twenty nine and a half rush yards for
Jackson Dark makes me think of Dumb and Dummer with Swinson.
Speaker 6 (01:17:11):
Swans, Swanson, Samsonite, Samsonite.
Speaker 1 (01:17:15):
I was way off? Does make me? Would you like
a prop bet horror story real fast here?
Speaker 6 (01:17:21):
I mean, I feel like of all the prop betters
we have here, you are the one that is cursed.
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
You always have these crazy stories.
Speaker 4 (01:17:28):
This is an ugly yet hilarious story. So last week,
same team, Old Miss I gave out on this show.
In this same segment, Old Miss running back Henry Paris
Junior over eighty one and a half rushing yards.
Speaker 1 (01:17:42):
Okay, he's got eighty.
Speaker 4 (01:17:44):
One rushing yards and it's getting late against South Carolina.
He's gonna get the ball. It's third and one. Okay,
here we go. This is the time.
Speaker 1 (01:17:54):
We need one yard.
Speaker 4 (01:17:55):
Let's go. Paris Junior stoned at the at the lianta scrimmage.
But hey, glimmer of hope, Ole miss goes forward on
fourth and one, they get it. Move the chains, all right,
My guy's gonna get another carry. Wrong hurt on the
one carry where he's stone line of scrimmage, doesn't get
another carry in the game.
Speaker 1 (01:18:15):
We finished one yard short.
Speaker 9 (01:18:17):
That's so brutal.
Speaker 1 (01:18:18):
That's so bad. It's really bad.
Speaker 5 (01:18:21):
Bryan.
Speaker 6 (01:18:22):
I'm actually impressed that you have the gumption to continue
to bet props the horse start. You have the the
will of an iron piece of iron, man sharp steel,
sharp and steel.
Speaker 1 (01:18:35):
There we go. Okay, I'm gonna look at this Texas
Oklahoma game.
Speaker 10 (01:18:38):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:18:41):
Michael Hawkins Junior is not gonna put up prolific passing yards.
Speaker 1 (01:18:44):
He just doesn't have a whole lot to work with.
But they have to throw.
Speaker 4 (01:18:49):
The ball and they're probably going to be trailing, maybe
by a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:18:53):
So I love Oklahoma tight end power sharp.
Speaker 4 (01:18:58):
Okay, his prop bet is twenty five and a half
receiving yards.
Speaker 1 (01:19:02):
You have wide.
Speaker 4 (01:19:03):
Receivers that are banged up left and right for Oklahoma
They're not gonna turn into a service academy and run
the wing tea. You know what I mean, They're gonna
throw the football. We're asking for twenty six receiving yards
from a tight end. I think it's a great spot
to back Bouer sharp.
Speaker 1 (01:19:19):
I actually love this bet, so.
Speaker 4 (01:19:21):
I'm taking him over twenty five and a half receiving
yards against Texas today.
Speaker 6 (01:19:26):
The Boise State number today for ashing genty to score
a touchdown?
Speaker 1 (01:19:31):
Oh yeah, do you want to guess what it is?
It's at some books minus four thousand.
Speaker 6 (01:19:36):
Yeah, it's Benamgen's being a little more generous minus fourteen hundred.
Speaker 1 (01:19:40):
Wow. Only wow to bet genty to score not bad.
Speaker 4 (01:19:45):
I gotta get over one eighty three and a half
like the rushing total goodness.
Speaker 1 (01:19:50):
All right?
Speaker 4 (01:19:50):
Coming up next, it's strength versus strength. Ah, yes, good morning,
as we get you set for a loaded college football slate.
He ranked versus ranked matchups highlighted tonight Jared by number
two Ohio State at number three Oregon, both teams five
and zero. By the way, do you go Aughtsen Stadium
(01:20:13):
or Otsen Stadium?
Speaker 1 (01:20:14):
Oh? Both ways?
Speaker 3 (01:20:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:20:16):
Don't put me on the spawn here, because not only
do I not know what I say, usually I don't
even know what the correct pronunciation is of that. I'm
bad with pronunciations. For someone who works in this broadcasting field,
I get a lot of that wrong.
Speaker 1 (01:20:28):
I go Atsen stadium. That sounds right.
Speaker 4 (01:20:30):
I think that's the more common way to say it.
But I do hear a fair share of Otsen.
Speaker 1 (01:20:35):
But Andada Nevada.
Speaker 6 (01:20:37):
Don't let them if you say Nevada here, and they
will be very upset.
Speaker 3 (01:20:41):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (01:20:41):
They even Nevada was playing Notre Dame a handful of
years ago and they said during the telecast it was
in there. Well they call it like they're the notes,
the press guy or whatever the media guide. In the
media guide, it was like, it's Nevada.
Speaker 1 (01:20:58):
Yeah, don't get mad.
Speaker 6 (01:21:00):
They'll kick you right out of the state. I almost
got kicked out my first month here.
Speaker 3 (01:21:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:21:05):
No, like get into the a you know, thevata get
him mata. Yeah. But it's strength versus strength.
Speaker 4 (01:21:13):
And when it's Ohio State and Oregon tonight, Ohio State's
running attack is really really good, and Oregon's rush defense
so far has been really good as well. And I
think for Oregon's defense.
Speaker 1 (01:21:25):
I think it starts there.
Speaker 4 (01:21:26):
Jared right, this one two combination with Ohio State running
the football. If your Oregon's defense and you can hold
the running attack in check and make Ohio State more
one dimensional, that would set up very nicely for you.
Speaker 1 (01:21:42):
Will Howard is not a great athletic quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:21:46):
So if you're able to neutralize the running game and
sort of tee off on him, that would be great.
If if Ohio States in obvious passing situations. It's easier
said than done. But I think it starts there, Oregon's
defense slowing down Ohio State's running attack.
Speaker 6 (01:22:04):
I agree, But here's the problem. I just got this
nugget from my injury folks, and they said Jordan Birch,
who's one of the best defensive ends in the country,
tweaked something in practice. I don't know if he's gonna
play tonight. They usually keep this stuff pretty close to
the vest, but that injury news got leaked. I don't
know how it changes the matchup here, because it still
(01:22:27):
is do you trust Will Howard on the road, And
that's where it all comes down to. For I think
Oregon's defense against this Ohio State offense we know Ohio
State can run it. Henderson Judkins probably the best one
two punch in the country, the both top thirty five
and EPA per rush. We know Ohio State has weapons
on the outside, Jeremiah Smith and mechag Buka probably the
(01:22:47):
best one two puncher receiver in the country fifty three
of the teams one hundred and eight receptions those two
guys on the season. But Will Howard six big time
throws according to Pro Football Focus, six turnover worthy throws
according to Pro Football Focus last year with k State
sixteen touchdowns, ten picks, So especially on the road, you wonder,
(01:23:09):
you worry if he can handle that. Again, if Oregon's
defense is shorthanded, if Birch can't go, well, then you
just have Harmon on the outside, who's still good.
Speaker 1 (01:23:19):
But you can double team.
Speaker 6 (01:23:21):
And this Oregon defense they had one test this year
Boise State.
Speaker 1 (01:23:26):
They failed it, gave up thirty four points.
Speaker 6 (01:23:28):
If you remove the Boise State data point, well, Oregon's
only given up like seventy rush yards per game this year.
Speaker 1 (01:23:35):
But then you throw in what Ashton Genty did, and
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:23:38):
Genty's probably better than Henderson and Judkins, but maybe not
the duo of Henderson and Judkins maybe is better than
just singular genty, but that's on the offensive side for
Ohio State. I think if Oregon's defense is just a
little slow, a little bit less than expected because of
the production without Birch, and if we trust Will Howard
(01:23:59):
to make the big mistake, I think Ohio State's got
the etcher.
Speaker 1 (01:24:03):
Well. And that's the thing too.
Speaker 4 (01:24:05):
Man is Dylan Gabriel where He's a talented guy, There's
no doubt about it. But what three red zone interceptions
so far this season? And I think that's the thing
with Oregon. I watch them in all these games, Jared,
and it's just like, Okay, they're probably gonna break out
this game.
Speaker 1 (01:24:23):
They didn't break out that game. Well, it's their dude,
at some point, right, they're just too talented.
Speaker 4 (01:24:28):
They didn't break out in that game either. I have
a hard time seeing them break out against Ohio State,
you know what I mean, Like, maybe they get up
for this game even more and they reach their full potential.
But if you're not breaking out against UCLA or Michigan State,
I have a hard time seeing them break out against
Ohio State. I just look at this Oregon offense, and
(01:24:52):
it leaves me it's like you tasted something bitter and
you're like, man, they should be doing more than this, right,
we haven't had many shock plays with Tes Johnson, the
talented well receiver. I'm just waiting for more with Oregon's
offense and we haven't gotten there yet.
Speaker 6 (01:25:08):
Totally agree. The good news for Oregon's offense is Ohio
State has not faced an offense with a pulse all season,
and in fact, both of these teams it's actually weird.
Both of these teams have been favored by double digits
in all of their games. So this is this is
going to be that first real tight, you know, nervy
(01:25:30):
matchup for either team. Dylan Gabriel hasn't played clean football.
Speaker 1 (01:25:34):
You mentioned it.
Speaker 6 (01:25:34):
Red zone turnovers too many of them, two touchdowns, three
turnover where he plays over his last two weeks. Now,
the good news is they got Jordan James going in
the run game last week one hundred and sixty seven yards.
Speaker 1 (01:25:43):
He's had four touchdowns in his last three.
Speaker 6 (01:25:44):
He's a bruiser, He's averaging almost four yards per rush
after first contact, and they're gonna need him today because
to your point about Tesz Johnson only nine yards per
catch for a deep threat, not very threatening. Two and
a half yards per route run not very good. You
want to be three or more. That's kind of average.
Over four is like elite. The key matchup Oregon O
(01:26:05):
line against the Ohio State D line. Oregon allowed seven
sacks the first two games against Boise and Idaho woof
zero sacks the last three games against Michigan State UCLA,
Oregon State just six pressures allowed in that span one
hundred and three dropbacks. They've been elite pass blocking it
over that stretch. But this Ohio State D line is
(01:26:25):
a different animal. I mean, go watch the film last
week against Iowa, and Iowa is not an amazing offensive line,
but their average, maybe slightly above average offensive line. Fifteen pressures,
four sacks. The Buckey's allowed just two hundred and twenty
six total yards. Hamilton Sawyer Tyleek Williams. If those guys
went up front, Oregon's gonna struggle to move the ball today.
Speaker 3 (01:26:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:26:47):
And one thing I do like about Oregon though, is
that this is an insane completion rate. Dylan Gabriel completing
seventy seven point eight percent of his passes this year.
Now of these are high percentage throws. But what it
does is it puts pressure on Ohio State's defense to
(01:27:07):
tackle well right, like they're not looking. Oregon isn't like
let's just air it out left and right. There are
a lot of short, high percentage throws. It's like Texas.
Texas does this all the time too, these short throws.
How well do you tackle in space?
Speaker 1 (01:27:23):
You know?
Speaker 4 (01:27:23):
So that's gonna be big for Ohio States defense as well.
But I think at the same time, it's not just
these little death by a thousand cuts right. At some
point you need some shock plays, yep. And we've seen
an inability for Oregon to generate a lot of those.
So that's what my eye on my eyes are on
(01:27:44):
with Oregon is can they complete some of those shock
plays and make things more like easier for their offense
and just get some momentum going you know what I mean,
Like if you hit one of those shock plays, that
can generate a lot more than just six points. And
I just haven't seen Oregon's defense do it thus far.
Speaker 1 (01:28:06):
I can't wait.
Speaker 4 (01:28:07):
This atmosphere is going to be tremendous, But I want
to see if Oregon's offense can open things up because
they just haven't done far.
Speaker 1 (01:28:15):
The number thinks.
Speaker 6 (01:28:16):
So we've seen the total get bet up sitting a
fifty four and a half now to open fifty one
and a half. We did see the early money on Oregon,
but now that it's at three and MGM's kind of
giving you this half bake number right now, three and
a half plus one hundred. So if you want to
lay the three and a half, you're going to get
more favorable odds to do so I'd be okay.
Speaker 1 (01:28:39):
Betting that number. I think this is Ohio State's game.
Speaker 6 (01:28:43):
I trust Jim Knowles over anyone else on the Oregon
offensive coaching staff. And if you want to go pound
for pound in the coaching room, Jim Knowles, Ryan Day
against Dan Lanning, like, go look at the big games
Dan Lanning's playing. Go watch the Pack twelve championship last
year against Washington. Completely unprepared for that game, a lot
(01:29:04):
of mistakes, turnovers. I just I trust Ryan Day more
in a big spot. I trust Jim Knowles more in
a big spot to have his team ready. And the
Oregon offense I don't think has that elite game breaker
Kez Johnson's been the guy, but the numbers haven't been
there yet. And can he do it again today against
(01:29:25):
the best defense he's faced all year. I think the
road environment will make this obviously the equalizer here, and
the road team traveling the Big ten road teams going.
Speaker 1 (01:29:37):
Multiple time zones haven't done well. But I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:29:40):
Chip Kelly coming back to Oregon, I just feel like
I feel like this is Ohio States game.
Speaker 1 (01:29:44):
I really do.
Speaker 4 (01:29:45):
Yeah, uh yeah, Chip Kelly back at Oregon as Ohio
State's offensive yaminator.
Speaker 6 (01:29:52):
That is an elite coaching staff. Chip Kelly, Jim Knowles,
Ryan Day. I mean, that's as good as it gets
right there.
Speaker 4 (01:29:57):
That's really solid. And think about everything Chip Kelly has
to work with offensively, all those playmakers against his former school.
Speaker 1 (01:30:07):
Embarrassment of riches. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:30:08):
That's the thing too, is like I'm just not sold
on Will Howard either.
Speaker 1 (01:30:14):
No, no, no, that's the fact.
Speaker 4 (01:30:16):
Yeah, that's the guy, because he's got all these weapons
around him, but there are times where he's looking for
a receiver and he's kind of clunky scrambling around, and
I'm like.
Speaker 1 (01:30:26):
I'm just not sold on Will Howard.
Speaker 4 (01:30:29):
So maybe that's your entry point if you're on the Ducks,
is rattling Will Howard a little bit, maybe forcing him
to make a bad decision or two, and that can
lead to a lot of good things for the Ducks.
But like what you said, Jared is if Oregon is
down potentially their best pass rusher, well that that makes
(01:30:49):
it a lot more difficult the huge And I'll tell you.
Speaker 6 (01:30:52):
What if Ohio State runs the ball, Will Howard is irrelevant.
Like if Oregon can't take away those two backs Henderson
and Judkins, it's gonna be.
Speaker 1 (01:31:05):
A long day.
Speaker 4 (01:31:06):
Yeah, I know it. And that's it's easier said than done. Man,
that's a great one two punch on the ground. And look, man,
that's the thing when you're trying to win road games
in an atmosphere like it's gonna be in Eugene at
autsin slash Otson Stadium, you know you want you want
to run the ball like that's high percentage run the rock.
(01:31:27):
They can't stop it. This fastball is going right down
the middle, but you can't hit it, you know what
I mean. Like that is a great way to travel
in game yards and score points is with the running game.
Speaker 1 (01:31:37):
And they've got.
Speaker 6 (01:31:38):
It it's gonna be a war. I am more excited
about these cross country games today. Yeah, and we'll get
to the other one in a minute, because it just
it shows your metal as a team. Like if if
Ohio State and we might not, we might not get there,
(01:31:59):
but bookmark this, Elijah, just bookmark this. We might be
looking back at this game in three months. Whenever January
comes around, Cultura will playoff time and we're like, wow,
we were getting Ohio State.
Speaker 1 (01:32:10):
As a field goal favorite against the Oregon.
Speaker 6 (01:32:13):
And like, Ohio State, based on all the chaos that's
happening in the SEC, Ohio State is the most talented
team in the country. They have the best weapons, they
have the best coaches. I think at every level. I
think they might be the best team and we haven't
seen it yet because they haven't played anyone until today.
Speaker 4 (01:32:31):
Yeah, real fast. How much do you put into the
travel here? Because the Big Ten stat right on eight,
these teams that have traveled two time zones. How much
do you consider that in a game like tonight?
Speaker 1 (01:32:45):
But it matters.
Speaker 6 (01:32:47):
Yeah, I think I think the travel based on what
I've seen. I mean, look at usc usc has gone
on the road to these Big Ten teams twice as
big favorites, not as big of a favorite. At Michigan,
they were double dig your favorite at Minnesota, and they
just wore down, like they just wore down, and Michigan just.
Speaker 1 (01:33:06):
Took their heart in the fourth quarter. Minnesota took their
heart in the fourth court.
Speaker 6 (01:33:10):
Everybody in the stadium. New Minnesota was running it against
USC last week. They still couldn't stop it like it.
I just don't know if there's the backbone. When you're
on the road, you have to have more oomph. And
I don't know if they you know, you never know.
You never know what these teams when they're gonna bring it.
Speaker 4 (01:33:29):
Yeah, I wonder how much of that is the travel
and how much of that is just USC is not
great against the run.
Speaker 6 (01:33:34):
Could be that, it could be that I think the
travel matters because and Rich could speak to this better.
But I have traveled with college teams before, especially in
smaller venues when you're used to going to the end.
Don't get me wrong, I know Oregon's on a small venue,
but Eugene is a small town.
Speaker 1 (01:33:50):
It's not easy to get to.
Speaker 6 (01:33:52):
They go to the same when you're in the same conference,
you go to the same hotel, you eat the same
pregame meal. It's routine, and now we're shift that routine.
I think it matters a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:34:02):
Yeah, all right, that's Jared Smith FSR betting analyst. I'm
probably a note Rich Hornberger with us for the first
part of the show. He is en route to broadcasting
a San Diego State football game today.
Speaker 1 (01:34:14):
You know, Dudy calls and Laramie, Hey, that's happened. That's
the way it goes. He's getting after it.
Speaker 4 (01:34:19):
Throughout the entire football season, BETMGM will offer all different
types of boost tokens. Be on the lookout for same
game parlay boost tokens, parlay boost tokens and odds boost
tokens each NFL weekend. All right, Coming up next, Jared
and I have to rant. Okay, I got a rant
for a little bit, and then we'll get to another
(01:34:39):
big time ranked versus ranked matchup in a tough maybe
the toughest environment. It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to
Kickoff presented by BETMGM. It is Fox Sports Radios Countdown
to Kickoff presented by bet MGM. Football is back at
bet MGM. Used code countdown and receive up to fifteen

Use code countdown to receive up to fifteen hundred dollars
(01:35:19):
back in bonus bets if that bet loses. Okay, a
quick rant, if I may, Jared Smith here, I love it.
Speaker 1 (01:35:26):
You know I love your rants. I'd like to talk
trash and give props at the same time. Oh, that's
hard to do. It's a two for one combo platter.
If you will.
Speaker 4 (01:35:37):
Uh Utah last night losing to Arizona State ugly, the
amount of time we've wasted on cam rising the Utah quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (01:35:51):
You gonna play? Is he not gonna play? Is he
gonna play? I heard he might play. He's not gonna play.
I'm here to say, who cares? Okay, who cares?
Speaker 4 (01:36:00):
Because last night, and you said this briefly, he was
freaking awful and it sounds like I lost money on
the utes. I can't bet on college sports in the
state of Oregon right now. So I had no cash
on this whatsoever. Maybe I would have, but I wasn't
allowed to here in this state. But man, you talk
about the coverage being completely over the top, and I
(01:36:24):
know he's dealing with an injury, right got the finger
issue going on. But when you look at the amount
of time we've wasted on Cam Rising this year, last season,
and what we got last night inaccurate two interceptions, he
had a guy wide open over the middle, threw it
at his feet. It's like, that's a great school throw,
(01:36:46):
not even a high school throw.
Speaker 1 (01:36:48):
Then, at the same time, props.
Speaker 4 (01:36:49):
To Kenny Dillingham because what he's done at Arizona State.
I think they've already exceeded their season win tols. He's
done a great job in Skataboo running the rock. He's
a lot of fun Arizona State. I take my hat
off to them. At the same time, I just look
at the youths and specifically Cam Rising, and I say,
you guys get out of my.
Speaker 1 (01:37:09):
Life right now, please. I'm sick and tired of the
coverage being so over the top.
Speaker 6 (01:37:15):
Yeah, this is where we're at in college football with
these guys. Kyle Whittingham's been doing this now for two years,
and he looked like a quarterback that hadn't played in
two years. The thing about Utah that's unique is their
defense actually kept them in that.
Speaker 1 (01:37:30):
Game for way longer than they probably should have been.
Speaker 6 (01:37:33):
Arizona State they're a tough They're a tough out, desert
swarm like when they're playing and flying around on defense,
they're a tough out because I think their offense has
a little bit of spunk to them. I've been so
impressed with some of the new coaches taking over teams
and just light speed getting to a winning vibe. Usually
(01:37:56):
it takes a couple of years, but because of the
portal and because of the current era we're in in
college football, you can literally change your franchise, change your
program in a season. Look at U El Monroe. Their
win total was one and a half. They're favored again today,
they're probably gonna make a bowl game like it, and
(01:38:19):
Navy and Army completely changing their offenses. You get teams
like Tulane, Nevada, New Mexico first year head coach is
way better than expected. So Arizona State, like I know,
we're like, oh, afterthought, who cares? Like No, Kenny Dillingham's
a good coach and they've got some players, and it's
easier to get your speed, to get your program up
(01:38:39):
to speed with a new with the first year head
coach than ever before. So we need to kind of
adjust the way that we adjust our ratings.
Speaker 1 (01:38:47):
Usually it's a slow process. We adjust the point a
couple points. Here, Indiana is up like twelve points.
Speaker 6 (01:38:54):
They're just the cover machine, like who's Indiana with Kurt
Signetti jmu coach brings it on all the jam you guys,
All of a sudden, Indiana is this powerhouse has a
chance literally Indiana has a chance to make collegetable playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:39:06):
It's crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:39:07):
Well that's the thing, man is I think you have
to let go of what you were expecting, yes, and
attach yourself to what you're getting. You know, like there's
a matchup later tonight Arizona against BYU Arizona. You're thinking
about okay Ffita Tetoa. You know, get we get t
mac here. Okay Arizona. They were high flying last year.
(01:39:30):
They surprised a lot of people and they were they
had higher expectations. They haven't been as good as BYU.
You know, BYU is the afterthought, and they're are the
best teams in that conference so far. So that's the
thing is I think you do. And it's hard sometimes
because you were so adamant, like I felt this team
was going to be good and they're just not good,
(01:39:51):
or I thought this team was gonna suck and they're
actually pretty good. I think you have to adjust pretty
quickly because things changed from in college football. We'll get
to the other ranked versus ranked game tonight in a
fantastic atmosphere. First, though, it always feels like ranked versus
ranked in a fantastic atmosphere every time we hear from
(01:40:13):
Isaac Clowing.
Speaker 1 (01:40:14):
Oh yeah, this is not I low with the latest here.
Speaker 9 (01:40:17):
Just hopefully not.
Speaker 7 (01:40:19):
Well wait a minute, Vanderbilt wasn't ranked last week, so.
Speaker 9 (01:40:23):
I guess that holds up. You're absolutely right, thanks, well,
thank you.
Speaker 7 (01:40:27):
The rankings are pretty high for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
They have not allowed to run in their last twenty
four innings. Is In Game five of the National League
Division Series on Friday night, they defeated the San Diego
Padres two to nothing on home runs by Keike Hernandez
and Taoscar Hernandez. The Dodgers win the series three games
to two. They advanced to the National League Championship Series
(01:40:49):
against the New York Mets, beginning on Sunday night in
La Mets manager Carlos Mendoza announcing just a short time
of the go that Cod Senga will be the Mets
starting pitcher for Game one. Sean Manaiah will start Game
two for the Mets. Coming up today at one O
eight Eastern, Game five of the American League Division Series
as the Cleveland Guardians host the Detroit Tigers. The Winter
(01:41:12):
faces the New York Yankees in the American League Championship
Series NFL. This morning, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced running back
Jalen Warren will play tomorrow at Las Vegas. He'd been
questionable with the knee injury. ESPN reported a short time
ago that with Giants punter Jamie Gillen questionable for Sunday
night's game against the Bengals with a hamstring injury, the
(01:41:32):
Giants are signing veteran punter Matt Hawk after he won
a six punter tryout yesterday at the Buffalo Bills. Today
ruled out defensive tackle at Oliver for Monday Night football
against the Jets. Running Back James Cook is being officially
listed as questionable due to foot and tow injuries.
Speaker 1 (01:41:50):
Guys, man, just to be a fly on the wall
with the six hundreds.
Speaker 9 (01:41:55):
The reality TV show, isn't it man?
Speaker 4 (01:41:57):
I'm telling you right talk about it's wall to wall
excitement right there.
Speaker 3 (01:42:03):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (01:42:03):
Good?
Speaker 4 (01:42:04):
Lord?
Speaker 9 (01:42:05):
Am all right up?
Speaker 1 (01:42:06):
Who can get it inside the five yard line?
Speaker 3 (01:42:09):
You know?
Speaker 1 (01:42:11):
I think you're right? Reality TV awaits.
Speaker 4 (01:42:13):

nine Old Miss against Number thirteen LSU in Death Freaking
(01:42:38):
Valley tonight. Here, Jared, we've got Old Miss five and
one LSU four and one LSU.
Speaker 1 (01:42:45):
Now they're a three and a half point home underdog.
Speaker 4 (01:42:49):
Oh boy, and listen with a total at sixty two
and a half, you have you have the potential to
make a good argument on either side. Right, Like, there's
so much variance in this game and so much offense LSU.
If you're looking at Old Miss, LSU is one hundred
and twenty fourth in passing success rate allowed. That's not
(01:43:10):
a great formula against Ohio State and Lane Kiffin's against
Ole Miss and Lane Kiffins squad, that's not great.
Speaker 1 (01:43:17):
But if you look.
Speaker 4 (01:43:18):
At LSU, LSU has a fantastic offensive line. I think
Garrett Nusmeyer is his passing prop is over three hundred.
He's going to be putting up some yards tonight and
that is just such a tough place to play. Trey Harris,
the Old Miss stud wide receiver, he's questionable. He torched
(01:43:39):
LSU last season, so that's something to keep in mind.
But man, when you get a little more than three,
you're getting three in the hook at home. In that atmosphere.
Ole Miss doesn't typically go into Baton Rouge as a
road favorite and win, so it's not gonna be easy
for them whatsoever.
Speaker 6 (01:43:57):
Yeah, the big news here, Trey Harris, leading receiver in
the CUN upgraded from questionable to probable with a hamstring injury.
Speaker 1 (01:44:05):
I think he'll play. The question is how effective will
he be.
Speaker 6 (01:44:09):
He was hurt in the second half of last week's
game against South Carolina, didn't play the entire second half,
and Ole Miss only scored three points without him, and
South Carolina's defense is not really that good. So I
think on the road night game Death Valley, if he's healthy,
it makes me feel a lot differently about this game.
Speaker 1 (01:44:29):
I don't think he's one hundred percent.
Speaker 6 (01:44:31):
Even if he plays, he's not gonna be as game
breaky as he normally is.
Speaker 1 (01:44:36):
And again, he's the guy that he liked that and
made that word up. Yeah, I like that.
Speaker 6 (01:44:41):
I'll use it for me. Well, we'll see if it
catches on the Oxford Dictionary. Is gonna give me a
call later today and gonna they're gonna add it highly questionable.
And let's say he plays and he's fifty percent. All right,
maybe you're a decoy and that's a good thing because
Jackson Dark needs he needs as much space as possible.
But this is a really tough situational spot for ole Miss.
(01:45:03):
Lsu was well rested. They're off the by ole Miss
is playing their third straight SEC Grinder lost to Kentucky
two weeks ago. Is a big favorite. Beat South Carolina
last week, covered as a favorite. The market kind of
hates LSU. We've been fading LSU a lot in the
market this year. That's why this number went from three
now three and a half, and you getting a favorable number.
(01:45:23):
Right If you're thinking, if you're looking at this game,
you're like, Wow, LSU Night Game, Death Valley. I'm getting
three and a half points as a dog at home.
I like the under in this game. I bet the
under earlier this week at sixty three. It's sixty two
and a half.
Speaker 1 (01:45:35):
Right now.
Speaker 6 (01:45:36):
You think offense when you think Lane Kiffin, and that's fair.
Speaker 1 (01:45:41):
Last year, remember it was.
Speaker 6 (01:45:43):
Fifty five forty nine this game LSU with Jayden Daniels
at Neighbors and Brian Thomas. I mean, it was a
show for LSU and Ole miss on the offensive side
of the ball. I don't know if it's going to
be the same vibes this year. It feels a little
more buttoned up. It feels a little bit more like
Ole Missus. Just elite defense, which by the way, leads
(01:46:04):
the nation in sacks and TFLs, has a bit of
an edge compared to last year when they had no
shot against Daniels and that offense. Now they won the game,
but they had no shot of stopping them. It to me,
if Harris is one hundred percent, it changes my view
a little bit. I don't think he's one hundred percent,
and I don't think this LSU offense is going to
be able to stretch the field. So I kind of
(01:46:26):
like the under and I kind of lean towards Ole
miss but not.
Speaker 1 (01:46:29):
At three and a half.
Speaker 4 (01:46:30):
Yeah, how about another game where it's a home dog
of three and a half. So we got your guys,
Penn State number four in the country at USC and
you know, so we get the time zone thing. Yeah,
Penn State traveling all the way to southern California. You
had USC struggle against run based teams in Michigan and Minnesota.
(01:46:54):
They dropped both of those games. Hey man, your nitny
Lions can run the rock also. So this is a
sharp play. As Seamus McGee mentioned, we talked to him
every show here on Saturdays from bed MGM, and he said,
this is a sharp play. A lot of USC money
coming in on the sharp side. What do you think
about your boys Penn State potentially covering have to win
(01:47:17):
by at least four on the road here.
Speaker 1 (01:47:19):
Yeah, I'm not betting this one.
Speaker 6 (01:47:20):
I wanted to get there with USC, but it's really
hard for me to fade penns Like Penn State is
the one team, you know, I'm a New York sports
fan from that area.
Speaker 1 (01:47:29):
Jets, Yankees.
Speaker 6 (01:47:30):
I'll fade the Jets every week if I think it's
a good bet.
Speaker 1 (01:47:34):
I don't care.
Speaker 6 (01:47:35):
With Penn State, I still have that, you know, I
still attach myself to them a little bit. So even
though it was the sharp side this week, very hard
for me to get to the window with the Trojans.
Speaker 1 (01:47:46):
This game's had some juice to it over the years.
Speaker 6 (01:47:48):
We saw this Rose Bowl in twenty sixteen, it was
the Sam Darnold Saquon Barkley Rose Bowl.
Speaker 1 (01:47:54):
USC won a high scoring game.
Speaker 6 (01:47:55):
How about this, Thirty five players in that game got
at least one snap in an NFL game. I mean,
these two programs tend to get that high level talent.
I don't think USC is quite there this year in
Penn State, I would say is not as high level
the talent as we've seen in prior years. But Lincoln
Riley hasn't done good against top five teams. He's lost
four straight and he's allowed forty.
Speaker 1 (01:48:15):
Five or more points in all four of those games.
Speaker 6 (01:48:18):
So how can USC's defense, which is improved this year.
Speaker 1 (01:48:22):
I give them credit.
Speaker 6 (01:48:23):
They're averaging sixteen point seven points per game, less than
last year, one hundred yards per game allowed less than
last year. But the entire fricking stadium New Minnesota was
running it last week. Still couldn't stop it in the
fourth quarter to get off the field and get Miller
Moss a chance to win that game. I don't want
to indict that USC offense for the performance last week.
(01:48:44):
Really bad weather at the Gold at whatever Dome, whatever
stadium they play in Minneapolis was really bad weather, windy.
They'll get better weather today at the Coliseum. But this
USC offensive line's not good. The left tackle combo of
Page and Murphy allowed ten pressures and threequarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:49:00):
Hits last week.
Speaker 6 (01:49:01):
I mean, the Penn State d line is better than
Minnesota's d line. So can they get pressure and can
those three receivers like USC has three studs, branch, Lane
and Hudson. Those guys are better than anyone's. Penn State
Seene all year. If Miller Moss has time and the
old line holds up, those three guys scare me. I
think that's why the sharp moneys come in on USC,
(01:49:22):
because the Penn State defense is not as elite as
it's been in years past. It's good, it's not great,
And I think that's the path for USC.
Speaker 1 (01:49:31):
There's a clear path protect and then you've got an
edge on the outside with those three weapons. By the way,
and that was a good breakdown.
Speaker 3 (01:49:38):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (01:49:39):
Do you get Colorado vibes with USC?
Speaker 1 (01:49:45):
Meaning? Colorado's defense is better.
Speaker 4 (01:49:49):
This year than last year? They were freaking awful last year.
USC's defense is better this year than last year. They
were freaking awful last year. But how good is each defense?
USC and Colorado? Is this like an MLS ratings trick?
Speaker 3 (01:50:05):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:50:05):
You think about Major League Soccer and they're like, our
ratings are up like ten percent, and it's like, well great,
your ratings were in the toilet last year, so they're
barely out of the toilet now they still suck, right, Like,
are you getting those vibes with Colorado and USC's defense
where yeah, it's better, but is it good?
Speaker 1 (01:50:22):
I would say no, Well, here's what's better. They're coaching
is better.
Speaker 6 (01:50:27):
So they brought over Eric Henderson from the Rams. He
coached Aaron Donald. They brought over the assistant DC from
North Dakota State, Matt ense He. You know, the Bison
had a really good defense for a number of years
in the FCS.
Speaker 1 (01:50:37):
And Danton Lynn.
Speaker 6 (01:50:38):
The new DC is again a step up, not really
step up from from what with Alex Grinch last year,
but still a step up. There's adults in the room
that can actually coach, and I think that's why they're better.
They're not talent wise light years better, but their scheme
is better. But but it kind of showed last week.
(01:51:01):
You can have the best scheme in the world. Everybody
knew they were running it last week. They still couldn't
stop it against Minnesota. Yeah, that's the part that scares
me is that if Penn State does bow up and
protect and defend the line of scrimmage, that's where Penn
State adds the edge in this game. USC's got the
speed edge, They've got the athleticism edge on the outside.
Speaker 1 (01:51:21):
Penn State's got the edge in the trenches. What a
day for matchups, right, really good day.
Speaker 6 (01:51:27):
Man, the best day of the regular season by far,
not even close.
Speaker 4 (01:51:31):
Yeah, and listen, I hope the games live up to
the that's really because last week we had a lack
of matchups. The one ranked versus ranked was Missouri and Texas.
Speaker 1 (01:51:41):
A and M.
Speaker 6 (01:51:42):
Because dog game was over started, Missouri got off the bus.
Speaker 4 (01:51:47):
But these afterthought type games, Vanderbilt hosting Alabama, they turned
out to be classics. So I hope, like the marquee matchups,
I hope they.
Speaker 1 (01:51:58):
Live up to that. Right where these are close games,
I think I hope they will. Man and I think there's.
Speaker 6 (01:52:04):
Gonna be at least one double digit dog that wins
out right today, I got my eyes on Florida. Look out, Tennessee.
You can't lose this game, Tennessee. Yeah, you lose this game,
it's over. Well, there are so many chances with double
digit dogs.
Speaker 1 (01:52:18):
Yeah, I would agree. If someone's gonna win, someone's losing it.
I have a hard time seeing Oklahoma winning.
Speaker 6 (01:52:24):
Oklahoma's not winning today, Sorry Red River fans. That game
could be forty nine to nothing against Texas.
Speaker 4 (01:52:30):
It could be, it could be all right, it's the
moment of truth. Are rapid fire selections?
Speaker 1 (01:52:36):
Huh?
Speaker 4 (01:52:37):
Are either one of us is gonna throw in Texas
there right or.
Speaker 6 (01:52:40):
You gotta pull my head from out And I took
us with these bets. I've had the worst, like four
weeks stretch I've ever had in this show in two
and a half years.
Speaker 4 (01:52:48):
And it happens to be at like the beginning of
the whole thing. And you know what I mean, It
couldn't be from weeks six through nine or something, you
know what I mean, It's at the beginning. So it's like,
oh my god.
Speaker 6 (01:52:59):
People out there who are questioning if I've ever made
a college football bet in my life based on how
the picks have gone the last four weeks.
Speaker 1 (01:53:06):
Time to rally, man. It's absolutely time rally baby.
Speaker 4 (01:53:10):
That's Jared Smith FSR betting analyst. I'm Brian no Rich Arnberger.

Elijah in with us again this weekend fun stuff. Top
of the hour up on game. We got Jonas Knox
(01:54:27):
out of the bullpen over here. We got it from
salam out of the bullpen.
Speaker 3 (01:54:31):
Here.
Speaker 1 (01:54:31):
We got Carry Rhodes out of the bullpen. How about that?
We got a lineup actually for a bullpen. That's right.
The backups are even better than the starters sometimes.
Speaker 4 (01:54:40):
Here fucking you had a bullpen game with the Dodgers
the other day and they got it done right.
Speaker 1 (01:54:45):
They won the game. So I think he's going to
I hope you like donuts there in San Diego. Yeah,
So that's at the top of the hour.
Speaker 4 (01:54:51):
Ten minutes from now up on game with Knocks, Salaam
and roads. All great, dudes, all right, we got some
picks to make. Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (01:55:02):
Rapid fire.
Speaker 4 (01:55:04):
Okay, Jared, it's time for you to put the trolls
to shame.
Speaker 1 (01:55:09):
Shut them up over here. What do you have for us?
Speaker 6 (01:55:12):
We are absolutely going three ano this week. We are
due in the highest sense of the term. All right,
I am laying it with Ohio State. The bet MGM
number is three and a half plus one hundred even odds.
I think that's a fair number. If you shop around
you can find three. But for the purposes of this show,
we're a bet MGM show. Ohio State minus three and
a half. I think they've got the edge offensively, especially
(01:55:34):
the offensive skill position guys against an Oregon defense that Hey,
if Aash and genty can run wild, why can't Henderson
and Judkins run wild? And the big news Birch the
defensive end tweak something in practice this week.
Speaker 1 (01:55:48):
That's a huge loss for Oregon's defense.
Speaker 6 (01:55:50):
I think Ohio State Chip Kelly homecoming takes advantage. Give
me the buck guys big in Eugene. I'm taking the
points with Colorado plus three and a half home dog
against Kansas State. Balanced offense for Colorado this year. They
actually run it better success rate success rate wise, and
then they do pass it. And their defense has not
really played a whole lot of tough competition, but they
(01:56:12):
have held opposing runners and receivers in check. They have
yet to allow one hundred yard rusher or receiver this season,
something they did eleven out of twelve games last year.
So I'll take Colorado plus three and a half agains
Kansas State. Finally, UCLA's getting their first Big Ten win
today at home against Minnesota at the Rose Bowl. Those
Big ten road teams don't like traveling multiple time zones.
Just one and eight straight up. And how about the
(01:56:33):
UCLA young quarterback Justin Martin. Just one turnover worthy play
last week in Happy Valley. UCLA covered in Happy Valley
last week. I think they cover.
Speaker 1 (01:56:43):
At home today. Give me the Bruins plus four against Minnesota. Okay,
plus four against the Golden Gophers.
Speaker 4 (01:56:50):
No row in the boat today's which is no okay,
let down after the USC win. All right, So Rich's picks,
who again is in route to call the San Diego
State football game. Here, he's got Alabama minus twenty one
and a half against South Carolina, rebounding from the Vandy loss.
Speaker 1 (01:57:08):
Okay, I like it. It's got some points with your boys.
Speaker 4 (01:57:11):
Penn State against USC he's taken over fifty.
Speaker 1 (01:57:15):
And a half. I like that too in that game and.
Speaker 4 (01:57:17):
Then also Minnesota UCLA. Very slow tempos from each team.
He's going under thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:57:24):
Nine and a half, dogging under.
Speaker 4 (01:57:25):
That's what we like there, you go, Okay, So my
pick's here, Jared, I'm going to fade the darlings of
last week Vanderbilt. Gimme Kentucky minus twelve and a half.
They have a real defense. I don't love their offense
at all. Okay, So that's a scary number to cover,
(01:57:45):
but it's been a consistent trend throughout the season. These
teams riding an emotional high, they are just freaking flat.
So on the road against Kentucky, I think it's a
tough spot for Bandy.
Speaker 1 (01:57:57):
I'll lay the twelve and a half.
Speaker 4 (01:57:58):
Give me Lsu that Valley baby plus three and a
half against Ole Miss Trey Harris upgraded to probable. But
like you said, Jared, not one hundred percent. He really
makes that offense go. So I'm gonna take LSU, who
I think is gonna gain a lot of yards, score
a decent amount of points. I think they keep it
(01:58:19):
close enough. I think they challenged a win at home outright.
Give me LSU plus the three and a hook and
this one. I think this is a stinky line alert.
So I'm going with Wyoming minus one against San Diego State.
This will please rich Ornberger, this will please e from
Salam who went there. You know who's in the studio
(01:58:39):
getting ready for the show at the top of the hour.
Speaker 1 (01:58:41):
So I'm getting the worst of the line.
Speaker 4 (01:58:44):
It's moved from San Diego State over to Wyoming. So
I have a one win team in Wyoming who's favored
by one think city left and right.
Speaker 1 (01:58:53):
I'm signing up for all of it.
Speaker 4 (01:58:55):
I'm telling you, closing line value in college football has
not been great this season.
Speaker 1 (01:59:01):
So even though I'm getting none of it, I'll roll
with it. Jared, give me the couch. I love that play.
