Your team's in the news again, your former team right
the way, they they just continue, I mean, they just
(02:08):
continue to provide content. They continue to provide storylines. I mean,
even when Aaron Rodgers wasn't playing last year, the New
York Jets were providing content and storylines. And now, and
I'll be honest, when the news came out earlier this week,
that Robert Sala had been fired.
Speaker 8 (02:26):
I was shocked. I wasn't shocked that he got fired.
Speaker 6 (02:29):
I was shocked that he was fired this soon into
the season and then the speculation. But nonetheless, how did
that land with you as somebody who's an alum with
the organization.
Speaker 9 (02:43):
Yeah, man, whenever you have these knee jerk reactions in
the middle of the season, not even the middle, in
the beginning of the season, you know there's trouble that's
already been brewing already. This is a situation where he
was never really in a stable situation this year, not
with the talent that he has and the expectations from
the outside world that was starting to leak in with
that unit. So it was gonna be hard for him.
(03:03):
And if they started out slow, which they have, I
mean they lost some games they should have won. He's
gonna be by in front of the microscope. So I
understand from a grand scope of what's happening there. But
you can't you can't do this this early. This is
a this is a this is a sign that you're
in chaos right now as an organization. And you don't
do that if you really want to win and you're
(03:24):
with the guy that you think that you have a
future with in Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
This is the way I look at what you say
from And you know, okay, as we we've played, we
have a say in the locker room. The writing's on
the wall. Yep. Right, you can feel the energy, you
can see certain things and then you'll understand, oh, it's
not gonna go well. Right. And so as I'm watching
(03:51):
the Jets and I was pulling for him, yep, when
Aaron Rodgers comes off the field, and everybody knows this
the image because that's the only this is the only
image they've been showing since Robert Salah has got to
say fire, I'm going to say where Robert Salad, who
is energetic? We saw him. I know Robert. He was
(04:13):
in Houston. He was on the staff in Houston when
I when I played in Houston, and we saw how
he was with the forty nine ers as a defensive coordinators. Right,
his guys get a sack, they get off the field,
he's meeting them at the hash marks. He's excited players,
younger players. They thrive on that, right, and so you
build that type of energy. So when they the Jets
(04:34):
score and they're coming off the field, and and and
and and right, Robert is is excited and he runs
over the Huggins quarterback and Aaron literally puts his hand
in his chest oh, and tells them calm down and
stares him down. That's what we call the writings on
(04:57):
the wall. When something great happen, there was still discord.
And so naturally, when things don't go as planned, there's
a line drawn in the sand. Right, there's team Aaron,
team Robert, And moments like that are very clear. I'm looking,
(05:18):
I'm oh, he's not gonna and I know I love Robert. Oh,
he's not gonna survive this. He's not going to survive
the Aaron Rodgers experiment. And so I wasn't shocked when
he got fired. I was like, Okay, even this soon,
even this soon, really, even this soon, because look what
the Jets have shown us. They're all in on Aaron Rodgers.
(05:41):
Sure right, they're all in. They bring the receivers he likes. Over,
they bring the offensive coordinator who shouldn't even be in
the NFL anymore, over, Nathaniel Hackett. I'm gonna say what
I'm gonna say. I hear you, right, you create this
whole world, this whole bubble for one player, and that
one player at the center of it is not a
(06:03):
fan of your coach. Remember the Egypt thing, Yeah, Robert
saladto well, it was a mini camp.
Speaker 6 (06:09):
I mean, I think I can't smoke weed on the
back of a camel and not get a grief forward
from missing training camp.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
I mean, come on, so and just those little seeds boom,
You plan them, you plan them, you plan them, and
then all of a sudden that tree grows. That tree
is Robert getting fired. And so they went on the
same page. Now the interesting thing is what are the
who are the Jets gonna be? Now? Right? Who are they?
Was it Robert? Was he the problem man? Right? Now?
(06:38):
So this is this is the littus tests. We get
to we get all the information now, we get to see. Now,
I will say, Robert is a defensive guy, and their
defense has been atrocious. Yeah, the defense hasn't been good
at all. It's been great, It's been crazy. Yeah, So
you know that's how I feel about the situation.
Speaker 6 (06:54):
Yeah, it's I watched it and I'm thinking, like the
awkward exchange.
Speaker 8 (06:59):
There was also the Hayden's.
Speaker 6 (07:00):
Back and forth they got back and it was like, well,
you know, that's one we need to hold guys accountable.
And I felt bad in the moment for Robert Sala
in this sense. He basically had to cater and probably
keep his mouth shut and probably swallow a lot of
his pride to have to deal with dealing with Aaron
Rodgers like we all do.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
And I just wonder if.
Speaker 6 (07:22):
He was like when it was all said McMahon, if
I knew it was going to go this early, I
would have just been myself, like I would have just
you know, like stood up for myself. But I think
he was so desperate to win and get quality play
at quarterback that he was willing to do whatever it takes,
you know, like sacrifice whatever feelings he had, whatever personality
traits he had to try and.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Make it work.
Speaker 6 (07:45):
And then it didn't work, and then Woody Johnson was
so desperate to have any sort of success there that
Woody Johnson's like, well, you know, something's got to change,
and you fire the head coach. Like I do believe
that Rogers was taken back by it, And I don't know,
I don't think that Rogers went to Woody Johnson and
said he's got to be fired.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
I think the timing of it that came out.
Speaker 6 (08:05):
Where they announced that Nathaniel Hackett was going to be
stripped of his play calling duties they were going to
give it to Todd Downing, and then five minutes later
the fire. I think that was coincidental. I don't think
Rogers was behind that. I think Rogers my gauge in
reading him, he's really disappointed. This has been a humbling
season and a humbling a few moments for him with
(08:28):
the Jets knowing that Wow, because I didn't play better.
Not only did the head coach get fired, my good
friend Nathaniel Hackett basically also got fired as well too.
And Rogers z ego has definitely taken a hit.
Speaker 9 (08:42):
And what mind the crazy part about what you just said,
First and foremost is the play caton that Robert Sala
had had to gain to Aaron Rodgers, right, and the
grace there because he hadn't had any success already, right,
So this is like all the chips in the basket.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
This has to work. So of course Robert could and
be himself.
Speaker 9 (09:01):
But then you go to the thing you just said last,
where you know this is Aaron Rodgers guy who's calling
these game plans. Right, So when you talk about failure,
it's not just that Aaron isn't planned well. He's had
some moments, but the offense looks the same as it
has in the previous years. And so that's where we
are right.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Now, same numbers, and I and Jonas I'm gonna push
back a little bit. I don't think based on everything
that they've done for Aaron Rodgers, I don't think that
they didn't speak to him. They may not have asked him,
but I think they had a conversation with him about
(09:42):
the firing of Robert Salah prior to what happening.
Speaker 9 (09:47):
Do you think of like like one of those like
not I don't make trick, like a conversation of what
do you think about?
Speaker 3 (09:51):
I think they've called him in and they said, hey,
we're going to go in a different direction at coach right, right,
And whether now, if Aaron would have been like no, right,
if he would have been like no, I think if
you give us more time, we'll be okay. If you
(10:13):
don't step in and you're like hey man, look if
you if you give one of these hey, you know
you guys are running the show you know, I'm just
a right, Well, if you give one of those, you're
essentially saying, now, this is all speculatory. I don't know
of this, but to me, I believe because you've shown,
(10:34):
like you said, Carrie, that they're all the chips are
in the Aaron Rodgers basket. So you need to know
how Aaron feels about Robert Salah and if he's okay
with that happening now, then Nathaniel Hackett thing, they both
could have been fired. In the normal situations, they both
would have been fired or the offensive coordinator would have
(10:57):
been fired. But that's Aaron's guy, so he still has
a job now, he's just Aaron's friend on the payroll, right,
He's no longer the offensive coordinator, so he doesn't necessarily
have a job outside of he makes Aaron feels comfortable
(11:20):
feel comfortable. So that lets me believe that Aaron was
privy to this information prior to us being privy to it.
In terms of the firing.
Speaker 6 (11:31):
Hey, by the way, that's a pretty sweet gig offensive
coordinator and you don't coordinate the offense, you.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Just hanging out with your guys.
Speaker 8 (11:38):
I want to do that.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
I want that I can do that sweet, Yeah it is.
Speaker 6 (11:44):
And one of the things that we were kind of
kicking around during the week and I'll get your thoughts
on this is and I think you were getting to
this carry is that?
Speaker 8 (11:52):
Like is it possible?
Speaker 6 (11:53):
Woody Johnson may have gone to Rogers and just said, hey,
look like how do you think this is going? Like,
you know, tough game out there, like you know, what
do you may And Rogers kind of made a comment
like I don't know, I don't know what we were
thinking in this spot. In that spot, I feel like
we keep doing the same thing over again, you know,
hopefully we'll get it like yeah, well listen, hey feel
better man, you know well, and then realizes, okay, I
(12:14):
got the information I needed.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Salo's gotta go like whatever.
Speaker 6 (12:18):
There is a weird dynamic to the whole thing, and
then the conversation becomes as you move it forward because
we're all try because look, this storyline is fascinating.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
It's amazing, like it is.
Speaker 6 (12:29):
Really like, yes, that team should have been on hard knocks,
Like that team should have been on hard knocks. And
in Egypt, all of them follow him underground, see him
lick a toad or whatever he's doing for the ayahuasca,
like all of that, we need all of that content
available and on HBO would have made that show so
much more watchable than whatever they presented with the Bears.
(12:50):
But I look at it and I go, who the
hell is gonna want that job moving forward? Like, because
here's because Jets fans are out there talking, you got
to do it. Bring it, Belichick. First of all, Belichick said, no,
when Woody Johnson first got there, what has changed in
twenty five years that would lead him believe, you know,
(13:12):
upon further review, that's the guy I want to I
want to coach for Like he's done nothing, Like it's
been a disaster. He's been the constant Woody Johnson in
New York this entire time when they've not been able
to figure it out. He chased away parcels, he chased
away Belichick like, that's you really got to be a
different kind of owner to chase away two of the
Bets coaches.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
What are we doing? What are we doing?
Speaker 6 (13:35):
And So when I look at it and people are like, oh,
you know what about this guy and that guy taking
over the job, first of all, I think it's more
likely that it's not. This is Rogers' final year, Like
the way Aaron Rodgers is playing, it's awful, yeah, I think,
And so I look at it and I go, I
just don't know how attractive that job is, Like, I mean,
it wasn't that attractive before Rogers got there because it
(13:58):
couldn't figure out the quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
If he's gonna leave, what are we looking at?
Speaker 4 (14:03):
Here?
Speaker 9 (14:03):
Just feels like a problem. It's a team full of
guys that think they're stars. You have to earn You
have to earn that that that Moniker And in New York,
if you have a good year, a lot of times
you can be promoted to that early and if you
have a bad year, you can be you know, promoted
to the worst player ever too.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
So there's no in between.
Speaker 9 (14:23):
And so I think a lot of those guys Saws Gardner,
you know, he's one of the best self proclaimed corners
in the league, right right, But what has he done?
I And I like the kid. I think he's a
really good player, but he's not a superstar yet. You
have to earn those stripes. And then you have Breist Hall.
He's supposed to be the second best running back coming
into this league this year, into this season, he's a
(14:44):
no show. I mean, brayln Allen's running better than he is,
and I know the offensive line isn't, you know, the
best right now, they're still working out some things, but
they should be better. And so when you put it
on the head coach, obviously that's who's gonna that's who's
gonna catch the flag for it. But those players got
to step up too. And they're supposed to be young
in certain spots that it should be attractive, but it
isn't right now.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Is it a situation where the thing Aaron Rodgers didn't
like about Green Bay his final year was the youth,
the youth of the receiving corps. Right. We saw Aaron
Rodgers struggle with the same guys. We've seen Jordan Love
prosper with same guys. So when you get to New York,
(15:29):
you have a young up and coming team. Guys been
in the league a couple of years, They've had some success,
The Sauces, the Bryces like like. So when you look
at the situation, that's why Aaron wanted to bring in
Lizard and and and cob and just to and they
(15:53):
allowed him to do that and pay them whatever he
was gonna pay them. And and so Aaron me doesn't
strike strike me as one of the old guys who's
okay with youth. He's the old guy at the barbershop
arguing that the Temptations are better than run DMC. All right, right,
(16:17):
you know what I say, Barry Rob Parker like that.
But this to me seems more than just a just
a coaching issue, right, it's a Aaron Rodgers can be
Aaron Rodgers. And it's okay if you get that energy
(16:40):
when you're winning MVPs. Okay, when your play superseds anything
else going on, that energy, it's okay, you deal with it.
But when you don't have the other part, now you're
just talking. Now your energy is off. Now you're alienating
(17:01):
people in the locker room. For Nathaniel Hackett, you can't
this pass game. You can't run the ball fifteen times
in a one possession game. That's crazy to me. At
no point where the Jets down by more than ten points,
(17:23):
and they were only down by ten for a split second,
it's a one possession they had an opportunity to drive
the ball down the field to win the game. Aaron
Rodger throws an interception that wasn't Robert Sala. The three
interceptions Aaron threw in that game had nothing to do
with Robert Sala. The game plan, not running the ball
(17:47):
in the game. That's it's right there. To me, that's
the issue, that's the problem. And so if you don't
address that, and they try to by demoting Nathaniel Hackett
and all of that, they cut the head of off
of the snake in terms of Robert Sala. So, like
I said, we going to see. Yeah, it's all out
(18:07):
for the world to see. We all got questions, we're
gonna get answers real zoom Monday night.
Speaker 9 (18:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (18:12):
And it's it's a big divisional battle as well too.
And by the way, they're still they're still fighting for
the division.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Oh yeah, there's for sure. It's great event.
Speaker 6 (18:22):
It is up on game here on Fox Sports Radio

It is up on game here on Fox Sports Radio.
E from Salam Carry Roads. Jonas Knox in for the
guys here. So we are going to discuss a couple
of debuts in the NFL this weekend at quarterback, one
of them very interesting. Could be more to that story
as we move forward in the season. We'll get into
that for you here on FSR, but for all the
(19:14):
latest from around the world of sports.
Speaker 8 (19:15):
All right, let's get this out of the way.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Make some noise.
Speaker 6 (19:18):
The Royalty himself, the one and only greatest update anchor.
Speaker 8 (19:22):
In the history of sports talk radio.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Blah blah blah blah blah, Isaaclohen Krown.
Speaker 10 (19:29):
Couldn't help but notice a tinge, a tinge of sarcasm there.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
Nocas, No, not from you, not from you.
Speaker 8 (19:42):
You want to try that again? Hold the sarcasm please?
Speaker 6 (19:45):
All right, I'm LeVar Arrington and I want to present
in the one and only Isaac Low and Crown for
an award winning update.
Speaker 8 (19:51):
You know I will take that, Actually I will take
that thank you.
Speaker 10 (19:55):
Well, let's start with LaVar's sport. Was that applause or
was that a tsunami hitting the studio.
Speaker 8 (20:05):
Let's check out the Fox Sports Radio plumbing department.
Speaker 6 (20:07):
That's the end of your your speech at the oscars,
and you just want to wind you up, like all right,
let's go, buddy, turn it out.
Speaker 10 (20:13):
When the band plays me off stage exactly and security
follows shortly thereafter.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
We start with.
Speaker 10 (20:18):
College football and seventh ranked Alabama of seven nothing over
South Carolina.
Speaker 8 (20:23):
They got six eighteen left to play in the first quarter.
Speaker 10 (20:26):
The Alabama touchdown coming out but on a one yard
touchdown run by Jalen Milroe. Tenth rank Clemson and Wake
Forest are scoreless. Six minutes in Number twenty one. Missouri
has jumped out to a fourteen to nothing lead at
UMass with five point fifteen left to play in the
first quarter. Coming up today, about exactly forty minutes from now,
(20:46):
it'll be Game five of the American League Division Series
as the Cleveland Guardians host the Detroit Tigers, Winter faces
the Yankees in the ALCS. The NLCS begins Sunday evening
in LA between the Dodgers and Mets, Mets manager Carlow's
Mendoza announcing today Code Sengo will be their starting pitcher
for Game one, then Sean Manaia will get the start
(21:07):
for the Mets in Game two atfl Today, the Pittsburgh
Steelers announceder running back Jalen Warren will play tomorrow at
Las Vegas. He'd been questionable because of a knee injury. Previously,
ESPD reporting that with Giants punter Jamie Gillen questionable for
Sunday Night's game against the Bengals with a hamstring injury,
the Giants signing veteran punter Matt Hawk after he won
(21:27):
a six punter tryout on Friday. The Buffalo Bills today
ruled out defensive tackle At Oliver for Monday night football
against the Jets. Running Back James Cook officially listed as
questionable due to foot and toe injuries. Now back to
two pros Enna Saturday cup of joke. Look at you,
(21:48):
Look at you, Especially after the sarcasm earlier.
Speaker 8 (21:50):
It just shows how magnanimous I am.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
Come.
Speaker 6 (21:53):
You know, we've been doing this way too long to
have boring so true is lo it?
Speaker 3 (21:59):
I got stories?
Speaker 10 (22:00):
Oh yes, we know where the bodies are varied at
as they say, yes it is, Oh, it only involves
Islo and I.
Speaker 6 (22:10):
It is up on game here on Fox Sports Radio. Yes,
he from salam Carey Roads. Jonas Knox in for the
guys here. So as we get ready to discuss the
debut of Spencer Ratler, it should be pointed out that
South Carolina, his former team, is down seven to nothing
to Alabama early and that's probably about as close.
Speaker 8 (22:26):
As that game will be all day.
Speaker 6 (22:27):
Because I feel bad for South Carolina getting Alabama coming
in with a red ass after what happened to Vanderbilt
last week.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
It would only it could only be worse. Is if
Nick Shaven was a coaching Oh yeah, it would already
be forty one to nothing. Oh bad, Yeah, it is so.
Speaker 6 (22:46):
But Spencer Rattler will get the start for the New
Orleans Saints. I know Jay Hayner was there, but there
was a lot of optimism about Spencer Rattler. Mid round
draft pick came in. Guys, got a got a hose
for an arm, He can sling it around a little bit,
got a little bit of cockiness to him. So we're
going to get to see the debut of Spencer Rattler tomorrow.
(23:07):
I mean, if you're New Orleans, I get it, Like,
why not throw them out there? See what you got?
You saw a little bit in the preseason. Derek Carr's
out for an undisclosed amount of time. He's probably gonna
get the nod on Thursday night. They play in a
short week, so at least we're going to get to
see Spencer Ratler early in his career coming up tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Look, I'm excited. I love when young quarterbacks can dip
their toe in right when unexpected things happen and you
have an opportunity. First of all, when you get drafted
relatively high as a quarterback, expectations shoot through the roof.
(23:51):
Now we've seen that that could be a bit much, right,
We've seen that a lot of guys aren't ready. Now
we have outline you have, you know the CJ. Strouds
you have going back to h Andrew luck right like
you have outlines. But for the most part, god struggle.
(24:13):
Now coming in five six weeks into the season, you've
had an opportunity to be a pro, to watch a
pretty good quarterback in front of you, to be a
part of how the game plans are implemented, to the
decision making and things like that. So this is a
perfect opportunity for him to have when he didn't know
(24:35):
when that was gonna come. I harkened it back to
a couple of years ago when Tyrod Taylor was the
starting quarterback for the Chargers and they.
Speaker 11 (24:45):
Pierced his his lung right right, the doctors, your time's up, right, And.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
They go to Justin Herbert who's hanging out on the
sideline eating sunflower seeds, and they tap him on the
It's like, hey, you have to start against Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 8 (25:03):
Taylor's like, when did I get in the episode of
the wire right?
Speaker 3 (25:08):
And and it just so happened to be against the
Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. And he went out
there and just he became who he is. He lit
the field on fire. So I like these type of
situations where, Okay, you've seen how to be a pro.
We can cater the game plan to your strengths. You
(25:30):
have a bevy of weapons, a lave and Shahid Alvin
Kamara like there is relief out there for you. So
it's a divisional game, it's a big game. I'm looking
forward to see what they have and they're looking forward
(25:51):
to it. We knew Derek Carr wasn't going to be
the quarterback there for the next ten years, all right,
and so this is a situation, Well, he should feel
good about. He should be nervous, but he should feel confident.
Speaker 9 (26:04):
I'm one hundred percent with everything you said there. The
only thing I'll say about Spencer Rattler that I think
is uh. I think an overall theme of him as
a as a player is he's just been inconsistent, and
so we see flashes.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
We know how good he can be. He's had good moments.
Speaker 9 (26:21):
In Oklahoma and Sling and South Carolina, right, so we
know that that can happen. But he's had really bad
moments too in critical situations. So this is the highest
This is the most critical he's ever going to be
in as a player.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
Right, He's at he's at the big level. Now, he's
in the big leagues.
Speaker 9 (26:37):
He's got a chance to play against a division opponent,
a chance to show what he can do, and I
think he has what it takes. But I think this
is where we are right now. We got to see it.
We gotta we gotta wait and see how he'll react
when the when the chips, are you know on the table?
Speaker 6 (26:51):
Yeah, And from Spencer Rattler over to another quarterback situation.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
In the NFL.
Speaker 6 (26:56):
This is one that we've been monitoring throughout the past
couple of months here at the network.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
I know you guys have been modeled.
Speaker 6 (27:02):
Like basically everyone's wondering, Hey, so what's the plan in Pittsburgh?
Speaker 3 (27:05):
All right?
Speaker 6 (27:06):
When are we going to see russ? Mike Tomlin spoke
about his status on Friday.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Tony had a good week.
Speaker 8 (27:12):
He's proven his health.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
Man, it's just a matter of knocking the rust offer.
Speaker 8 (27:15):
Is he suren you enough to be active on Sunday?
Speaker 9 (27:18):
Yeah, he's probably gonna be active as a number two
quarterback like what I've seen out here.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
But again, health and rust are two different things.
Speaker 9 (27:24):
I thought he had a good week displaying his health,
his ability to protect himself, and now it's just the
process of getting reacclimated.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
So that was Mike Tomlin talking about Russell Wilson.
Speaker 6 (27:33):
So he'll be active for their game against the Raiders
for the first time this season. And I felt like
last week in that Sunday night delayed.
Speaker 8 (27:43):
I mean that game, what did it start like midnight East?
Speaker 3 (27:46):
Yet it was really late.
Speaker 6 (27:49):
Oh yeah, you know, but I look at it and
I go, that was really probably Justin Field's best opportunity
to stamp the job, Like this job is mine and
it just the offense didn't look right, And so I
feel like this kind of opens the door for USS
now to potentially step in if they struggle. Now he's
finally active again and now he can get a shot.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (28:11):
I been on the record there and Justin phild should
be the guy there anyway, And I still kind of
stick with that. We've seen Russell Wilson. We know the best,
we know the best he has to offer. He's not
that guy anymore, Russell. I mean, Justin Filds has the
potential if the game plan is really cater to him
in his skill set. I mean, I know they want
to be a West Coast offense. I know they want
(28:32):
to get the ball out quick. But this guy can
extend plays, he can make big runs. He can you
can add more run running plays and more RPOs to
that game plan to make him be dynamic. I don't
think the staff has given him enough enough on his
plate to show his full potential. So when you say
that was his opportunity it was, but they're limiting him
(28:52):
and what he can do and what they're giving him
on his plate to do. So I just want them
to go out there and just unleash him so we
can't know what we can what it is.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Is, Yeah, I think that to your point, there's a
little bit of trepidation there. Like, what we've seen from
him is number one, he's not gonna turn the ball over.
He had the one game where you know, he did
the splits and try to you know, make a play
or something like that. This one thing I do like
about him is he's always trying to extend the place,
sometimes to his detriment. But what we've seen from him
(29:24):
is he's not gonna throw picks. Right. This is right
along the line of what Russell is. He's gonna take
care of the ball. It may not be spectacular, but
to Carrie's point, they're not giving him full access to
the playbook. And if you do that, you're going to
get production based on what you allow him to do.
(29:49):
And if they really want to figure out, okay, is
if he's our guy, let's open this thing up. We
can go for wise, we can whatever that is. We
need to see him attack downfield. Now, the thing that
held Justin back, even when in his Chicago days were
(30:10):
the thing most quarterbacks coming from college into the NFL
struggle with is timing right. The receiver is going to
be open. You can't throw it when they are open
(30:30):
because by the time the ball gets there, they're no
longer open. So the anticipation of the route is where
great and elite quarterbacks separate themselves from the field. Now,
when you see a quarterback and he pats and he's
patts and he's just staring at he's waiting for the cut,
(30:53):
the ball should be in the air by the time
the receiver cuts and turns, it's there. They're trained to
that's the ball like that. That's the thing that for me,
I think he needs to work on more. And the
only way they'll be able to get a clear picture
of if he's evolved from that is to let him
(31:14):
throw the ball down the field.
Speaker 6 (31:15):
You know what's disappointing about last week too, because I
thought they're not in that game against Indianapolis if not
for Justin Fields. He was the best player on the field.
Ye Like he was like that. I looked at that
and go, oh, like, this job is going to be
his like if he keeps playing like they're only in
that game with his ability to move, throw the ball
(31:35):
in the run, scramble like he was fantastic. And then
they get to last week and it's like they just
kind of dialed it back seemingly. They just look and
it's not like you were dealing with Micah Parsons in
this elite Cowboys defense. They've struggled and Michael Parsons wasn't available,
and still they rolled out that.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
Limited version of him after the week he had prior.
Speaker 9 (31:54):
I was just about to say, you just said it though,
like against the defense that they could have taken advantage of.
Speaker 6 (31:58):
Yes, yeah, so it's disappointing, but we will see how
that plays out as well.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
Too.
Speaker 6 (32:03):
Also should be pointed out, maybe the plan in Pittsburgh
is to be like, hey, by the way, Russell Wilson's healthy,
we'll give him a little cup of coffee here. Trade
deadline is November fifth. Maybe somebody hearemmy, yeah, that could be.
That could be something as well too, So something to
monitor there. It is up on Game here on Fox
Sports Radio E from Salaam Carrie Roads Jonas Knox in
(32:24):
for the guys. Coming up next year though, we're gonna
tell you why the Fox Sports Radio Studios is a
miserable place to be, I mean obnoxious. It's blow hard
Central and we've got the fruit fish right here on FSR.
It's up on Game Fox Sports Radio e from Salam
Carrie Roads, Jonas Knox in for the guys. Coming up
(32:45):
top of next hour a little over twelve minutes from
now somebody in the NFL about to get paid.
Speaker 8 (32:50):
They are about to get paid.
Speaker 6 (32:52):
We will discuss why they deserve it and why so
many people will be pissed off about it. That'll be
yours here again, coming up here a little over twelve
minutes from now here. Remind that shortly after the show though,
the podcast will be going up. If you've missed any
of it, be sure to check out the pod. Search
up on Game wherever you get your podcast. Be sure
to also follow, rate and review the pod. Again, just
search up on Game wherever you get your podcast. You'll
(33:12):
see this show posted right after we get off the air.
So this is a just an obnoxious place to be
for those of you that have never been to the
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Here and beautiful Sherman oaks. Let
me explain what You're gonna find, Probably a cockroach somewhere
that'll probably be somewhere nearby. You're also going to find
(33:33):
a bat that flies around, which I didn't even know
if they've.
Speaker 8 (33:37):
Still gotten hold of that bat.
Speaker 6 (33:39):
But they get bigger every year, and then you're gonna
find Dodger fans literally everywhere. And of course they beat
the Padres last night, and just the mood in this
building has completely changed, Bo Benson, how we feel in
here the day after you finally beat the Padres and
(33:59):
the postseason.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
I mean second time in five years. So that's it's fine,
it's nothing new. Oh mae, it's nice. You know, it's
nice because I legitimately think of the Padres had beating
the Dodgers, they were gonna win the World Series. So
to stop them from doing that as avoiding a massive
catastrophe next year.
Speaker 6 (34:18):
So and it's also also seeing uh man, I'll say
this one of the more entertaining baseball series, Like, oh
my goodness, it was.
Speaker 8 (34:27):
That was fantastic.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
Like you can say whatever you want the Padres. They
are entertaining as hell.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
To watch the energy right they're bucking that's the norm.
The the unwritten rules unspoken rules of baseball, which brings excitement.
You need a younger demographic to buy into your sport
if you want to survive. Right, No, I flipped the
(34:52):
bat right stare somebody down? Yeah, hip thrust in the outfield,
like do I I mean, I like it all. I
like it all, what you got.
Speaker 12 (35:04):
I was just going to say, as a neutral observer
and someone who's about to die here in about ten
minutes from the Tigers play, I do appreciate that Dodgers
fans around here are acknowledging this now as a rivalry
and not just trying to brush it off as a
little brother.
Speaker 8 (35:18):
How could you know?
Speaker 6 (35:18):
How could you dis you can't like those days are over,
like Sandy, Like that's.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
A legitimate team. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
Maybe if they didn't act like a little brother after
they lost, it'd be easier to brush that off.
Speaker 8 (35:29):
You know what, drinks and giants are coming through that
door anytime.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
So Jackson profile refuse to acknowledge that the Dodgers pitching
staff played any role in them not getting hitting the.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
Ball as they should as they should, I mean, hold
on to that. That's fine.
Speaker 2 (35:42):
Yeah, but that's still little brother behavior when you're sitting
there losing.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
And you eat, take your ball and go home. I
liking it too in La Clippers, in the Lakers, right,
people are like the Clippers in the Lakers rivals, and
I'm like they are not. Well, the Clippers have won
this and that, okay, and how many championships has that
gotten you? Well, the Clipers have won the last ten. Okay.
So we're in this the new Intuit Dome, the Clippers
(36:10):
new home. Where are you going to? What banners are
going to be? Up Right, you can't make it a rival,
a real rivalry unless the outcome is you go on
to win a championship. Right, But the Padres and the
Dodgers are getting close. Yes, they're getting close to that.
(36:32):
So now if we see the next three or four
years them standing in each other's way to get to
the championship, to get to the World Series. Now we
got at Now you're like, okay, this is turning into
something It.
Speaker 6 (36:49):
Wasn't like Carrie when you were in New York with
the Jets, Like I always got the impression on the
outside that it was similar to this than that, Like
the Dodger fan base and the Dodger because it's so
historic and they've been so successful, there is an arrogance
that comes with it. There just is same with the Lakers,
and so when somebody like the Padres comes along, or
like the Clippers comes along, there's this shoe fly like
(37:10):
whatever did it feel the same like when because the
Giants organization in New York feels the exact same, and
so when the Jets were like there's a bit a
long stretch where the Giants have been a bag of
crap and the Jets have been a better team. But
there's still kind of this dismissive tone towards the Jets,
isn't there.
Speaker 9 (37:27):
Well, the dismissive part comes from what you know what
he from just said. The Giants won championships in Yeah,
they'll be four and twelve for three years in the row.
And then two thousand and seven beat the Patriots again
what we just went to the playoffs in two thousand
and six were for good, like for our city. But no,
(37:47):
it just that's what it is. When you win it,
he races, it eliminates all that odor. I mean, Eli Manning.
We talk about him like Hall of Famer, right, if
I watch him and I see him I played against him,
I'm like, I don't know if he's that guy, but
then you see the championships.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
You're like, well, he's probably that guy. So it's it's
that feeling.
Speaker 6 (38:06):
And also at the ELI Manning stuff with like other
than those Super Bowls, he never won a playoff game.
That's not a point, like how about that, But he
would go on, he would go on a heater and
he would just win the whole thing and beat Tom
Brady And it's like, wait, what how does that work?
And and it's just so it's it's kind of wild
to see how this is progressed, but it's a it's
(38:26):
a real rivalry. And by the way, if you're Major
League Baseball, you need to capitalize all you need this
right away, like they should be like Padres a Dodger
should be featured in primetime as many times as humanly
possible next year.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
You're absolutely right, and what it did, and it brought energy.
It brought energy at a time where most people were
watching football. Right. So now, I didn't grow up playing baseball.
I became a baseball guy once I started coaching my
kids in baseball. But it was musty TV, Like I'm
like I gotta watch the game like this is out
(39:02):
of control. The hitting, the number, the star power between
one through four on each of these teams, like at
any moment, something could happen at any moment, And that's
that energy you want. You want that when you're watching
playoff series and I wish it was seven best of seven.
(39:24):
I know, I'm with you.
Speaker 6 (39:26):
Yes it's and it's not even just like the guys
at the plate, like there's relievers coming in that are
throwing one over my.
Speaker 3 (39:32):
Goodness, Like what.
Speaker 6 (39:36):
Like if I if I drove one or two in
my truck, it would disappear, like I swear to God,
like it's a po it would disappear. And these guys
are just slinging it coming out of the bullpen, and
then Tattis and Otani and all those guys. It's it
was really really fun to watch the congrats with the
Dodgers and all the the fans here at Fox Sports Radio.
Our two next year up on game this, let.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
Me pick out, let me putch out.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
You want NFL experience and this it's the show for you.
Speaker 11 (40:07):
Third Law Draw with LeVar arie ten as a defensive guys.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
TJ.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
Houshman Zana.
Speaker 4 (40:14):
I'm just bringing the viewers into how grown men in
the locker room, Like I don't play with some dude
that you disrespect them anyway, It didn't matter who it
was they was putting hands on you.
Speaker 5 (40:23):
And blaxic Co Bird they are the same person, the
same exact quarterback.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
It's a show with three. I'm the best to ever
do it on and off the field. And now live
from the tai iraq dot com studios of Box Sports Radio,
here's TJ. Hushman Zanna Man sitting in for the guys
from salam Man Carrie Rhodes.
Speaker 6 (40:50):
It hurts even more this time that damn LeVar Arrington bousc.
Speaker 8 (40:56):
It is up on game here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (40:58):
Eat from salam Carrie Jonas Knox in for the guys
here on a Saturday afternoon, I mean morning if you're
on the West Coast or Hawaii. But nonetheless, we're all
doing it live here from the tire rack dot Com
studios tire rack dot com. We'll help you get there
an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, pre road has a
protection and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack dot
(41:19):
com the way tire buying should be, so we obviously
keep you up to speed on all the college football
happenings throughout the course of this shows. The games progressed
throughout the course of while we're on the air here
on FSR. You guys just found out during the break
that you were in a game against each other and
had no idea, right.
Speaker 3 (41:38):
Yeah, it was was it five oh five? Five? I
was with the Jaguars, he was with the Jets. That's right.
I'll make a more miraculous interception in overtime. It didn't
matter because we won anyway, So you know, but that's
(42:01):
you know, that's why I love doing shows with former players. Yeah,
because the intersection is, you know, it's crazy and you
don't even think about it, like we're sitting up here,
we've known each other forever exactly, and then it's just
like this one thing and I was like, hey man,
(42:22):
I was there. I was in there. It was like
I was a prod of that. That's so fun. By
the way, I'm looking at the box score here.
Speaker 6 (42:32):
So Byron Leftwich was the starter for Jacksonville, Chad Pennington
was the start for New York, but Jay Fiedler played
a couple of snaps. It looks like in this game
you had the great Curtis Martin was there, Fred Taylor
was there. By the way, Fred Taylor ran the ball
thirty seven times in that game.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
Yeah, I know, I know. It was a long game.
Speaker 6 (42:55):
That's awesome. Yeah, so all the way all the way
back then. And you guys said you had an interception
in that game.
Speaker 11 (43:00):
And didn't matter. Yeah, it mattered to me. It was
number one for me. Yeah, he had tackles and you know,
a pick. Yeah, that was the Well, listen.
Speaker 8 (43:15):
Past defense, a losing effort.
Speaker 6 (43:21):
Let's go effort, Jack del Rio, Herm Edwards, the coaches
and games.
Speaker 3 (43:25):
That was funny.
Speaker 6 (43:28):
Well, listen, we were talking to open up the show,
obviously about the Aaron Rodgers saga or Robert Sala Rogers,
the Jets, all that stuff that that's happening. Uh, And
you know, we'll get to see how that plays out.
And obviously it's a busy slate of games coming up
in Week six in the NFL. One of those games
already in the books, and so we're kind of kicking
this around during the break and Carrie, I'm curious to
(43:51):
see your thought on this, because we were talking about
Brock Purty and the more that he and this was
coming off the heels of our subject about listen, Spencer
Rattler is going to get the nod in New Orleans.
He's a mid round draft pick. You know, expectations are
probably low. Just go out there and sling it and
see what we get. Man Rock Party is playing his
(44:13):
way into a sixty million dollars a year contract. Sure, yeah,
and I think he deserves every penny of it. Anybody
that wants to push back because there's going to be
the discussion, well, I mean, you can't do even if
they struggle, you know, they don't win a Super Bowl
this year, they don't make that Like, whatever the case is,
there's going to be the same conversation we have about Dak.
(44:35):
You look at brock Purdy. All he's done is play well,
and he's setting himself up for a monster contract. And
with the absence of Christian McCaffrey, who's probably going to
be out another month, it's just more opportunity for him
to showcase his skill set.
Speaker 9 (44:48):
Yeah, it's been the best case scenario for him personally. Right,
you get to come into a season with a lot
of confusion, a lot of unknowns, right, But you know,
as that quarterback, as that leader, as that's studying in peace,
he's been steady, and I think that's the biggest thing
about him in general.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
He's always he seems to have a steady presence.
Speaker 9 (45:07):
He has a calmness around him, and then he goes
on the field and he balls out. I mean this
year with you know, weapons being in and out, which
has kind of been you know, San Francisco's m o
here in the last couple of years, to be able
to still put up the same numbers or even you know,
kind of supersede those numbers. For him personally, it's just
been a it's been a great year from him. I
really enjoy watching them progress and get to the point
(45:29):
where he is now where we can kind of remove
the discussion about him being a system player and him
just being a player.
Speaker 3 (45:37):
Yeah, let me ask you a question, and I'll just
put it under the guides of, you know, a blind sample.
If I were to tell you, hey, we drafted a
kid in the first round and in two and a
(45:57):
half years, he started thirty one games. He's twenty and seven.
Are twenty Yeah, twenty and seven, he started twenty seven games.
He's twenty and seven. He's completing seventy percent of his passes,
(46:20):
he's thrown for almost eight thousand yards, he's thrown fifty
three interceptions and nineteen interceptions, and he's played in three
NFC Championship games. Would you consider that a great first
round draft pick? Yes? Right? Yeah? Now, would you say, oh,
(46:47):
he's going to be a phenomenal quarterback. We got it
right as an organization, Yes, same numbers, same everything. He
was a seventh round draft pick. Would you feel the
same way, even more impressive? That's why I don't understand
(47:11):
why they're such pushback and the cat like, not one
time did you say, oh, well, what team is he on?
Are who? What type of talent does he have on
the team? Just blindly giving you those numbers and the
only caveat was he was a first round quarterback. The
(47:34):
fact that Brock Purdy has done exactly that. He's winning
over seventy percent of the games he starts and finishes,
he's completing almost seventy percent of his passes, he's thrown
for seven thousand over seven thousand yards in two and
a half years and literally starting twenty seven games, And
(47:56):
people continue to discredit the the type of player and
the caliber of player he is.
Speaker 6 (48:03):
He's been better than Trevor Lawrence by a mile, and
like that wasn't even like not only they give him
a contract, they renamed the stadium after him. It's in Jacksonville.
The stadiums like now Trevor Banks Stadium or whatever it is.
Speaker 3 (48:17):
It is. God, it baffles me to hear just how
people he's better than Jordan Love. Agreed, agreed, he's better
than Jordan Love. You can hunt And how don't you know? Please?
(48:39):
I loved it. How don't you know?
Speaker 9 (48:42):
Okay, the stats to put out the record, that team
is a better team.
Speaker 3 (48:47):
The team is great. They're better than green But guess
what if you put brock party with what he can
do in Green Bay? In Green Bay, what does it
look like. It'll look this, It'll look similar, right, it'll
be similar. That goes to the caliber of player he is.
(49:09):
He's not gonna make mistakes, right, He's gonna play within him.
So people saw him scrambling around, uh this past weekend, like,
oh he could really move. Yes, they were surprised. After
two and a half years, they were surprised, Oh he
can he can scramble too. After the fourth round. They
don't know to run, right, So so just having the
(49:29):
and guess what, Kevin Jordan Love got to just sit
and watch. He got to sit and watch. He got
to make millions and millions of dollars for three years
to just learn. Brock Party was making hundreds of thousands
(49:51):
of dollars and got injected into uh when he got
put in. He was five and zero and went to
the NFC Championship game and and the reason they lost
that game because he hurt. That he got hurt, that's right.
Then he doubled down the next year and came back
and went back and then the next year did it again.
I got a question for.
Speaker 9 (50:11):
Both of you, guys, real Sorry, is there any context
around the idea of the talent superseding and giving a
quarterback and easier, an easier introduction, and then you can
blossom to be the player.
Speaker 3 (50:26):
But there is there any merit to that?
Speaker 6 (50:28):
Almost almost like you're better off being undervalued so you
can show your value moving one.
Speaker 3 (50:36):
That is it? Yeah? If your court. That's why we
were talking about last hour. Spencer Ratler right like he
is a fifth round draft pick, there's no pressure. Yeah,
this is the perfect situation for him to go out
that we know New Orleans has a good team, we
know they have the pieces, they can score, they have
offensive weapons, they have a good defense. There's no pressure
(50:58):
on him. All he has to do is go out
there and play well and win. That's it. And if
he doesn't, they'll be like, he just needs more time.
But if you're a first round draft pick, you don't
have time. In reality, you do, but perception is reality.
You're perceived to be ready to go right now if
(51:22):
the team uses a first round draft pick on you,
and the perception of a team picking you last in
the draft is you're just camp fodder, you're their practice
squad guy. Now, it's taken brock Purty two and a
half years of excellence to even almost start to dig
(51:44):
out of that perception, which blows my mind. It's like.
Speaker 6 (51:50):
Being disappointed in a restaurant. The only reason you would
be disappointed in a restaurant is because somebody told you
how great it was, and then you get in there
and you go, oh, had had they just been like, hey,
you know, check out the spot, let me know what
you think.
Speaker 3 (52:04):
Not bad?
Speaker 6 (52:05):
Yeah, But if they hype it and they overseell it,
then you're kind of set your expectations to a point
to where you're like, oh, you know, that's that's not
exactly what you were describing to me. The thing about
the Brock Party situation that I find fascinating because it
just doesn't make sense on any level whatsoever, is when
people push back and go just a product of the system,
you know, Like that's I mean, like it's a system course,
(52:28):
all right, So what do you want him to do?
Force a trade to prove himself elsewhere? Like, hey, would
you send me the worst situation in the NFL? Like no,
The idea is find something that works. Like I'm happy
in my marriage. I'm not going to go take my
chances elsewhere because I want to prove myself that I
can do it with somebody else. That's the part of
this that doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 3 (52:49):
I believe in you. You can go.
Speaker 6 (52:50):
You can go make it work with them, like you
like you found a guy wherever you found. Look, they
tried with Trey Lance. They give up three first round
draft picks for Trey Lance, and I credit John Lynch
and the forty nine ers who were like, no, the
better guy is the guy we got last like like, like,
he's the guy. Like I remember hearing stories about when
he's Shuler and Gus Farott were both in Washington. Mark
(53:13):
Schlaret has talked about this of Fox Sports one and
he said, man, we got to camp and we were like,
who got drafted fifth overall? He goes because that guy's better, like,
and the Niners recognized it and realize, look, we're gonna
take a loss on on the draft capitol. We gave
up for Trey Lance. But that's the guy and he
deserves every penny he's gonna get.
Speaker 3 (53:33):
Dude's gonna get paid. Man, No, he is so to
the point I made, and you kind of raised the
eyebrow at me with with with Jordan Love and Brock,
I shouldn't have brought up that game that it is fine,
it's fine, it's so, and we can We'll take the
twenty twenty three last year yep right. Jordan Love's first
(53:54):
year starting yep. He was the nine and eight sixty four,
completed sixty four percent of his passes, four thousand, one
hundred and fifty nine yards, thirty two touchdowns, eleven interceptions.
Unbelievable Rock Party first year right, yep. Jordan Love had
(54:17):
been in the league several years already, first round draft pick. Correct,
Rock Party, first year, starting sixteen games, he completed seventy
percent of his passes, two hundred and eighty yards more,
thirty one touchdowns, eleven interceptions, NFC Championship ship pretty pretty similar. Yeah,
(54:41):
So when I say Rock Party to me is better
than Jordan Love, you have to also remember their starting point.
That's true, right, their starting point. Jordan Love was drafted
in the first round and got to watch and see
an all time great and study and learn how who
(55:03):
was Brock Purty watching? He's about the Troy Lass. What
do you mean, Jimmy Garoppolo, Trey Lance? Right, so when
you take all of those.
Speaker 8 (55:13):
Yeah, there's like pictures of Joe Montana in the building.
Speaker 3 (55:15):
So right, So when you take their starting point and
you take their first real full year of starting, one
had been in the league for three years already. One
had just got there, and then you you you met
and you're like, wow, how can they even almost be comparable?
So when I make the statement that Rock Party to me, yeah, yeah,
(55:41):
it's better than Jordan Love, I'm not taking anything away
from Jordan Love. What I'm doing is raising. You know
the value of brock Party because he's playing like at
first round talent.
Speaker 6 (55:54):
And by the way, Jordan Loves contract in Wisconsin. You
know that's going to go a lot longer than sixty
million dollars. Costs about sixty million dollars a year to
live in the bar a.
Speaker 3 (56:02):
Yeah, so you paid Jordan Love all of this and
no one bats an eye because he had a successful
year and he was the first round draft pick. Now,
all I've been hearing is is brock Perty willing to
take a deal. That's when you're a late round draft pick.
They do that. They do that. They say, Okay, we
(56:24):
can give them a lot, not market value, because he's
had nothing. He's had nothing. Right, people always as great
as Tom Brady was, he never got paid his value.
He's never got paid his value. And you can say
what you want. Tom Brady was a six round draft pick.
You can say what you want. He's never been the
(56:49):
bar setter. Well, they he took home. Who did they
pay the money to? Name in the in the Tom
Brady era? Named the one player that they paid the
money to that they needed to take from Tom Brady.
Speaker 6 (57:06):
Yeah, they like their first big free agent signing, like
if we're being was probably Stefan Gilmour years later. And
that was years later after he had been there.
Speaker 3 (57:16):
You see what I'm saying. Starting points matter?
Speaker 6 (57:20):
Did you guys feel that when you would go into negotiations.
I was a seventh round draft Yeah, so did you guys.
Speaker 3 (57:24):
I don't know about Carrie, but I was a seventh
round draft pick. I was a middle round. I was
middle round. I was fourth round. So I was.
Speaker 9 (57:38):
So, you know, talk about renegotiations. When it was time
for my contract time, it was I think I had
a little bit more of a a little bit of
an equal playing field. I mean I was coming off
in All Pro year. No, no, you brought it up.
You brought it up. So I was coming off in
All Pro year, and uh, you know I'm in the AFC.
(57:58):
It's Ed Reid, Troy, Bob Sanders, myself or whatever at
that time, right, so I could have a comparable and
the number was there, so I could just kind of
reach forward that number again, middle round pick.
Speaker 3 (58:09):
G I never had the big one yet either, so
I was doesn't just get it done?
Speaker 6 (58:15):
Does your agent though, tell you, like, hey, just see
you know they're gonna try and work this against him.
Speaker 3 (58:20):
No, I don't, don't. This is my experience. So I
I was the original one hundred and ninety ninth pick
in the draft. Right you are right, damn right you are.
And the year I got drafted it was in the
seventh round. A couple of years later, because of the
expansion teams and all of that, it got pushed back
(58:40):
to the sixth round. But I didn't make any mood.
It was no negotiating until you played those those four years.
My fourth year, oh wow, I was high tendered because
all the team had to do is match a draft
pick that I was, meaning if another team wanted to
(59:03):
acquire me, all they had to do was give offer
me a contract and give Atlanta a seventh round draft pick.
I had been starting for three years and so they
called me in the office and were like, hey, we're
going to high tender you. And that to me, I
was like, wow, it was listen. It was one point
(59:27):
two million dollars. That was the high tender. And I
was like, oh my god, my rookie year. I made
one hundred and sixty seven thousand dollars before taxes started.
Every game, including the Super Bowl before my second year,
I made two hundred and thirty thousand dollars before taxes.
(59:47):
My third year, I made two hundred and sixty eight
thousand dollars before taxes. Started every single game for three years,
and then my fourth year, going in into the season,
they high tendered me. Oh by the way, they drafted
a kid out of sc for right tackle to replace me,
(01:00:11):
and then they brought me in and said, hey, we're
going to restructure this tender. We're going to give you
six hundred thousand for base salary and we're going to
tie the other six hundred in centenves, like, if you play,
then you'll get the other six hundred man, which I did.
(01:00:33):
But because I was a seventh round draft pick and
that six hundred thousand was more than I made the
first previous three years combined, they felt like and I
remember being pissed off. I called my dad. I'm mad.
He said, hey, man, you can't control that. So only
(01:00:54):
thing you can control is how you play, how you prepare,
and how you play. Everything else gonna work. Just be professional.
And then I went on in free agency and went
to dinner and got my deal. But like I said,
they will find ways to devalue. They that year, the
year they high tendered me, instead of letting me go
to another team, they drafted somebody to replace me.
Speaker 8 (01:01:19):
So cutthroat man, this is a real story.
Speaker 3 (01:01:23):
Inevitably, it didn't work, but they could have. That could
have easily been it, And so people are fixated on
that starting spot. Brock Perdy is the last pick in
the draft. He can't be that good, can he. It
has to be everything else. It can't just be him.
(01:01:44):
And that's the part that I'm bucking up against. Yeah,
it's gonna be fun to see that play out.
Speaker 6 (01:01:48):
It is up on Game here on Fox Sports Radio
from Salaam, Carrie Roads, Jonas and for the guys. Next year, though,
we're gonna take a look ahead, a little bit of
a preview, and some projects on the NFL this weekend
that'll be yours right here on FSR.
Speaker 3 (01:02:05):
It's up on.
Speaker 6 (01:02:05):
Game here, Fox Sports Radio E from Salaam, Carrie Rhoades,
Jonas Knox in for the guys. So we are going
to give you a little bit of a preview, make
some picks, and a look ahead do a busy weekend
in the NFL. That will be yours here coming up
in just a couple of moments from now here form
the ti raq dot com studios. But first for all
the latest from around the world of sports, ladies and gentlemen.
(01:02:26):
One final time, a man who has earned his keep
around here, Greatness, Saturday morning into the afternoon, the great,
the powerful, the majestic, Sir Isaac Lowankrown, Majestic.
Speaker 10 (01:02:39):
Yeah, after all these years, you finally captured it. I
think the least I could do, you know, majestic, Perry.
Did you see how I puffed up with flattery?
Speaker 3 (01:02:47):
Oh? I saw it?
Speaker 8 (01:02:48):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the word majestic drugs.
Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
Yeah, no, I saw it. Was like it was like
a whack a mole your head.
Speaker 10 (01:02:56):
Not exactly the analogy I was going for it, but
I'm willing to go with it. In Game five of
the American League Division Series is underway from Cleveland. The
Guardians and Detroit Tigers are scoreless and the top of
the second inning. However, Detroit right now has a runner
at second base with one out.
Speaker 8 (01:03:12):
The winner, of course, faces the New York.
Speaker 10 (01:03:14):
Yankees in the American League Championship Series, and the runner
just stole third, So the Tigers now have a runner
at third base with one out. In a scoreless so
far at top of the second inning, Winter faces the
Yankees in the ALCS. NLCS begins Sunday evening in LA
between the Dodgers and Mets. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza announcing
today that Cod Senga will start on the mound in
(01:03:36):
game one, and then in Game two it'll be Sean
Manaia getting the start for the Mets. College football, seventh
ranked Alabama jumped out to a fourteen to nothing lead
over South Carolina, but South Carolina has come back. Leonora
sellers a thirty six yard touchdown pass to maze O Bennett,
and then South Carolina forced Jalen Milroe into an intentional
(01:03:57):
grounding penalty in the end zone for a six So
with forty four seconds left in the second quarter in Tuscaloosa,
it's Alabama fourteen, South Carolina at nine. And thanks to
the popular social media site message board Geniuses, we have
some Alabama fans who are unsatisfied with the Crimson Tides
(01:04:19):
performance thus far. At Orion six posting and I quote
we suck again at Rolling Tide two thousand and four,
commenting quote defense is trash, And finally at Tua's Burner,
weighing in quote, I'm sure Robert Salah can stop the option.
(01:04:43):
Oh wow, whoa Again, thanks to message board geniuses for
posting and pointing those out. Tenth rank Clemson of twenty
one to fourteen at wake Forest two.
Speaker 8 (01:04:55):
But it's left to play in.
Speaker 10 (01:04:56):
The second quarter and at halftime, number twenty one Missouri
as a twenty four order three lead at Massachusetts. Bellas,
I'm gonna go log onto some Alabama message.
Speaker 3 (01:05:05):
Boards back to you. Good for you. That's a fun
place to be.
Speaker 6 (01:05:09):
Also to point this out, I mean, Alabama probably could
have lost that game to Georgia. Maybe should have lost
that game to Georgia. You know, that receiver didn't really
help out Carson Beck in that throw of the end zone.
So had they lost that game as well too.
Speaker 8 (01:05:26):
I mean, now we're.
Speaker 6 (01:05:27):
Having a whole nother conversation, like replacing Nickson, replacing a
legend has got to be a real pain.
Speaker 3 (01:05:32):
And it is beyond that. Yeah, it's beyond that, because look,
there's a standard, and we know what the standard is.
You set that standard, and it's been like that, and
now it's basically a lose lose, right, Yeah, you lose
Vanderbilt is a lose, lose, lose, all right, you come
(01:05:54):
out and even if they managed to win this game,
right and say it's oh that's a pick, Oh my god?
Is that? Wait?
Speaker 6 (01:06:02):
South Carolina with another pig to the Oh, it's end
of the half though.
Speaker 3 (01:06:06):
Oh oh, you've got to get into the end zone, guys.
So we've got to cut across the view at the
time is off.
Speaker 8 (01:06:13):
The clock, So we are.
Speaker 6 (01:06:15):
We're at halftime in Tuscaloosa, coming off the historic loss
to Vanderbilt, and Alabama is holding onto a fourteen to
nine lead over South Carolina, and the fans at home.
Oh boy, somebody just told that girl last call on
her face. Yeah, they are not thrilled at Brian Denny
(01:06:35):
over in in tuscal Loo.
Speaker 3 (01:06:37):
You got to go that way now, you gotta just immediately.
Speaker 8 (01:06:43):
It's three seconds, yes, second level, they got three seconds
to get points.
Speaker 6 (01:06:47):
Yeah, they should get points. So it looks like South
Carolina did get out of bounds. So they all have
an opportunity to tack on three points here with a
field goal.
Speaker 3 (01:06:56):
Try.
Speaker 6 (01:06:57):
This will be from some guy named Alex Herrera. I'll
be honest with you, and I'm not familiar. This will
be from thirty seven yards out for South Carolina and
it's good. And so Alabama holding on to a fourteen
to twelve lead as they go in at halftime.
Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
Well, you were talking about, hey man, this will get
your fight quick, this will get your fight. They'll eat it,
they'll eat the contract and he'll be out of there.
Speaker 6 (01:07:24):
Like there's a lot of people who are looking at
it going, uh, well, why wouldn't Dabo Swinny be interested
in that call, in that job he played for Alabama? No,
that was probably the move. I don't want to be
the guy after him. I'll be the guy after after,
you know, like I wait, yeah, like you guys, hey,
go take your licks and then I'll step in and
you know, be the savior because I didn't, you know,
win a national title there back in the day. So
(01:07:46):
we will keep you posting on that throughout the course
of the show here on Fox Sports Radio. It is
upgoone game here on FSR right now. It's time for
a regular each week and it's a little something called.
Speaker 1 (01:07:56):
This time for somebody. Are you up on game? Let's
break this up, let's back it up, down game, get down.
Speaker 8 (01:08:06):
All right, ball bens, So what do we got yes,
that's right.
Speaker 2 (01:08:08):
Is up on Game down on game a refresher for
everybody involved here. These are odds are all courtesy of
our friends over at Draft Kings Sportsbook. I'm going to
give the guys three games they're going to pick against
the spread and give their thoughts on the over, under,
on the point total. To start this week, we're going
to jolly old England, where the Jacksonville Jaguars take on
the Chicago Bears and Caleb Williams quick note here.
Speaker 3 (01:08:30):
With Spencer Rattler starting tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
That is now all of Lincoln Riley's quarterbacks starting in
the NFL. Oh wow, which is pretty crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:08:37):
Pretty factory.
Speaker 2 (01:08:38):
Yeah, Chicago a one point favorite in this one. The
total currently set at forty four and a half. So
jonas what you got here.
Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
I'll take the Bears and I'll take the younger. Oh okay,
I'll take the Jags and I'll take the under as well,
because the I think are three to one across the pond.
They play better there than anywhere else on the planet.
It's basically it eventually will be their home if I'm
(01:09:11):
using my tea leaves correctly. Yes, Oh so, all right,
all right.
Speaker 9 (01:09:15):
I'm gonna take the Bears, and I'm also gonna take
the under, so I think, yeah, I think under's the
safe play here.
Speaker 2 (01:09:21):
All right, undertakers all the board. Next up, we have
the Atlanta Falcons heading to Carolina to take on the Panthers.
If the Falcons a six point road favorite in this one,
the total currently set at forty six and a half,
so eat from what you got here.
Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
I'm taking I'll take Atlanta and I'm going, all right,
stay under. It's got to be done here. It's a yeah,
it's the Carolina.
Speaker 6 (01:09:49):
I'll take Carolina getting six points. What, I'll take the
under as well. I know they're so bad, but what
are the chances we see an explosion like we saw
from Kirk Cousins two.
Speaker 3 (01:10:00):
Games in a row. Like I feel like Cousins, Okay,
he's made his career on those explosions.
Speaker 8 (01:10:06):
Yeah, but I think he's just more of a primetime guy.
Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
Now.
Speaker 6 (01:10:08):
I think it's one Eastern time games on Sundays. It
might be a problem, but I'll take Carolina in this spot.
And actually that's a later game, so that's a four
to twenty five kick. Yeah, why would they have that later?
But nobody wants to watch that. Yeah, I'll still go
with Carolina.
Speaker 9 (01:10:27):
In the other Atlanta six point a touchdown favorite. I'll
take Atlanta, and I'm actually going to take the over.
I think I think they're clicking offensively now and I
think they've really I know they passed ball way too
many times last time, but they have an identity. They
have John Robinson as well, and so i think they're
going to school a lot of points.
Speaker 3 (01:10:44):
So I'll take the old perfect all right.
Speaker 2 (01:10:46):
Last game here, the Buffalo Bills head to New York
on Monday to take on the Jets. The Bills a
two point road favorite in this one. The point total
currently said it forty and a half. So Carrie, what
you got here?
Speaker 3 (01:11:00):
Forty and a half? All right, I'm going I'm going
Jets obviously. Is it obvious? I mean, is it obvious?
Speaker 9 (01:11:11):
Though, it's obvious going Jets obviously, And I'm actually gonna
take the over. It's gonna be an outburst this Monday
on Monday Night.
Speaker 3 (01:11:20):
For by outburst. I don't know about.
Speaker 6 (01:11:22):
Point Hacket, so because the vandel Hacket's not involved, all right, exactly,
I see, I will take I'll take the Jets getting
two points as well.
Speaker 8 (01:11:31):
Too, and I'm with carry. I'm gonna go see over.
Speaker 3 (01:11:36):
Well, neither of these gentlemen been paying attention.
Speaker 8 (01:11:40):
I mean, I'm not back next week.
Speaker 6 (01:11:42):
I don't have to be old the heat, right, right,
let's just burn it down.
Speaker 3 (01:11:46):
I'm going Buffalo, that's easy. I mean, just a discourse
that's going on in the building of the Jets, right,
there's a lot of finger pointing, right, this is a
big We're going to find out a lot of information
after this game. I don't think it's information that you know,
Jets fans or former Jets players want to hear. But
(01:12:08):
I think Buffalo. Now, Buffalo has to keep pace, uh
in this division, and I think they'll be on a
mission in this game, and nobody wants to be the
game that a dysfunctional team gets healthy on. And so
I'm going to take the over because I think the
Jets do score more points. But I'm taking Buffalo.
Speaker 9 (01:12:29):
James Cookings out, don't forget that now, Well we don't
know if he's out. Okay, you just made you just assumed,
you just pre emptied to You just threw that out there.
Speaker 6 (01:12:39):
Okay, So can my if I do poorly, can my
record go against Levars.
Speaker 3 (01:12:47):
Who who am I represented? Okay? All right? How good
is plaques? Well, I don't know about who is winning
right now. I think TJ is Okay, then we'll we'll
keep going.
Speaker 2 (01:12:58):
There got a boost because Dan Byer filled in for
him and went six and oh one week. Yeah, so
it's I think it's it's close between LaVar and a
TJ right now.
Speaker 8 (01:13:07):
And I hope I lose every pit every single while.
Speaker 3 (01:13:10):
I want to be the reason he is your pek
my out.
Speaker 8 (01:13:17):
That's my excuse. Uh So there it is.
Speaker 6 (01:13:20):
It's another edition of Up on Game Down on Game
Here on Fox Sports Radio E from Salaam, Carrie Roads,
Jonas Knox in for the guys coming up next here.
We are going to close up shop here on this
show because we're going to tell you how somebody apparently
is getting eliminated from contention when they've had maybe the
best season of anybody in the NFL.
Speaker 8 (01:13:39):
We'll tell you who that is right here on FSR.
Speaker 6 (01:13:42):
Up on Game Here, Fox Sports Radio, Carrie Rhodes E
from Salam. Jonas Knox with you here from the tire
rack dot Com Studios. A reminder as we close up
shop here on this Saturday that shortly after the show,
the podcast will be going up, So if you've missed
any of today's show, be sure to check out the podcast.
Search up on Game wherever you get your podcasts. Be

sure to also follow, rate and review the pod. Again,
just search up on Game wherever you get your podcast,
and you'll see today's show posted right after we get
off the air, coming up in a little over ten
minutes from now. It's been called the greatest two hours
of radio and the history of sports talk, the Jonas
Knox Show here on Box here Like I didn't call
(01:14:23):
it that, Brian Finley called it.
Speaker 3 (01:14:24):
I thought you were talking about.
Speaker 6 (01:14:27):
It's gonna be I'll get a news for you. It's
going to be a complete letdown based on how this
show has gone. But we will do our best top
next hour here on FSR. So Sam Darnold has been
fantastic throughout the course of the I mean he has been.
And that's a great story considering everyone just assumed the
(01:14:48):
book was written on the guy and it was just
like auy, you know, come on, move on, you know,
Sam darn just do that.
Speaker 3 (01:14:53):
They have a tendency to do that to players. He's
not lying rest quarterback.
Speaker 6 (01:14:59):
Yeah, no, there's been There's been several that have come
through there. I mean, whether it's Zach Wilson, like Mark
Sanchez Smith, yeah, Geno Smith.
Speaker 3 (01:15:07):
So just think about that. Gino and Sam Darnold were
thrown away, both started where they started, and both prospering.
Now I don't know if we're the worst. So let's go.
I say, I say Cleveland because they let Baker go, right,
But I said so one, that's one though, like we
you you guys are it's becoming a habit. Now Zach
(01:15:29):
Wilson is somewhere going so I so you're saying I
have a chance. Yes. So also Brett favre right through him.
That was just a mess. Then he goes to Minnesota.
Speaker 9 (01:15:43):
No hold, no, no, that was Brett's fault though, Brett, No, no, no.
Speaker 3 (01:15:46):
Dude, I was there there. We don't know Brett was injured.
We were nine and three down. The stret Brett hurts
us on.
Speaker 9 (01:15:54):
We lose the last four games because he wants to
plays like a non organizational problem.
Speaker 6 (01:16:02):
So the reason this is brought up is because Rob
Mighty I believe that's his name, is that Rob Maddie.
Speaker 3 (01:16:08):
Do I have that correctly.
Speaker 6 (01:16:08):
Bo.
Speaker 8 (01:16:10):
By the way, if I screwed up, we'll fix it
in the podcast.
Speaker 3 (01:16:12):
I just want to put that out.
Speaker 6 (01:16:14):
Rob Maddy pointed out that Sam Darnold, who I mean,
we're talking about comeback Player of the Year, like he
would be the guy maybe to get the award, but
they did kind of tweak it before the season where
the AP issued the guidance before the year that quote,
the spirit of the award is to honor a player
who's demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity by overcoming illness,
(01:16:35):
physical injury, or other circumstances that led him to miss
playing time the previous season.
Speaker 3 (01:16:42):
Well, Sam Darnal wasn't injured.
Speaker 6 (01:16:44):
No, but all of this goes back to the fact
that Joe Flacco got it over to mar Hamlin last year,
and so people looked at that and said, well, what's
Joe Flacco.
Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
Coming back from it?
Speaker 6 (01:16:54):
Said, well, he wasn't playing and he led the Browns
of the playoffs and he was, by the way, another
Browns quarterback who's been better in Deshaun Watson. So like
then then the conversation becomes, well, who's going to be
the guy? Like if it's not if we're not talking
Sam Donald, because Aaron Rodgers was projected to me, no, no, no,
so like he was, he was looked at as going
(01:17:15):
to be the guy. But then you've got Kirk Cousins.
He's coming off an injury. But it does feel like
Sam Donald maybe on the outs when it comes to
Comeback Player of the Year. But then when you start
looking at the MVP as a stands right now.
Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
Now, I was gonna say, he may not want, he
may not want the Comeback Player of the Year, and
he settled for MVP.
Speaker 8 (01:17:34):
I mean, it's hard to argue anybody's been better than.
Speaker 3 (01:17:37):
Him this year. Wouldn't that just be poetic As a writer,
That's that's a story I want to write, right, A
team that he was drafted by. We won't say any
of the names, will spend a j ats threw them
away right on a lonely cold night, and you set
(01:18:00):
the scene. This is an episode in a yeah, right, right,
one man's trash becomes another team's treasure. That's right. This
is the story of Sam darn Right, escorted out, bounced
around CouchSurfing until he found a home. And what did
(01:18:20):
he do with that home? He took it to prominence.
He is our NFL MVP. Yeah, yeah, I love that.
That's I'm also available for voiceover right the green mouth.
Speaker 1 (01:18:39):
There, Couch.
Speaker 6 (01:18:41):
I mean, look, if you go to DraftKings right now
and you're looking at the MVP odds, Patrick Mahomes is
the favorite. I think Sam Darnald's been better trash and
so you've also got Josh Allen in the mix. You've
got Lamar Jackson, C J. Stroud.
Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
Look, Jayden Daniels and Daniels. That's the dark horse for it.
Speaker 6 (01:19:00):
Yeah, but I think Jayden Daniels is more likely to
get Rookie of the Year, and they would find a
way to give somebody else, you know, the award for MVP.
I think all those guys that have been listed, Sam
Donald's better than all of them right now.
Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
Yeah, And if they keep this thing going, which they
have a great shot to do, I don't see how
you not right And you want to talk about a rebirth.
That means he gets to now dobbled in that the
market value of a starting quarterback, which I love for.
Speaker 9 (01:19:27):
And will it be there or will be somewhere else
they drafted a quarterback, it'll be somewhere else else.
Speaker 8 (01:19:31):
I heard Cleveland. I heard you and Mark Cleveland.
Speaker 6 (01:19:34):
I heard you and Mark Willer kick that around a
little bit, talking about what he could get paid before
he plays like this.
Speaker 8 (01:19:38):
That price is going it is going up.
Speaker 3 (01:19:40):
It's going up.
Speaker 6 (01:19:41):
Well, it's going up on game here for us, we
are done. Thanks for having us here on FSR
