Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening no Fox Sports Radio.

Well that's right, you heard the man that time of week.

The way they're buying should be. You know, the Dictionary
(00:27):
defines expectation as quote a strong belief that something will
happen or be the case in the future. It's funny
how so many things in life, particularly in the world
of sports, are predicated on expectations. So when Clay Helton
exits USC, albeit with the winning record twenty two games
(00:51):
over five hundred, but the likelihood he's he's not going
to get them into the playoff, although he came very close. Actually,
the expectations are when Lincoln Riley takes over that you
can start booking your plans now, but not so fast.
The USC is not only eleven and eleven in the
(01:13):
last twenty two games, they're five and nine on the
last fourteen. We'll get to that in a minute. When
Alabama has an epic win over Georgia in Kalin de
Bori's first ever heavyweight about fight that was clunky English,
let's try that again, and Kalin de Bor's first ever
heavyweight fight. The expectation is this Bama team is going
(01:38):
to pick up where it left off. Then they lose
two to the next three. We'll get back to that
when Michigan wins the national championship and new head coach
Sharon Moore, who had a big hand in it last
year with all the Harbot suspensions and was very vehement.
I was in Michigan August sixth, said regarding his quarterback room.
(02:02):
I like my guys. I really like my guys. Yet
Michigan can't complete a forward past another four and three,
and there's a chance they could end up six and six.
Trust you look at their schedule. Expectations led to disappointments.
But when you're in the Georgia Bulldogs and you take
the field, the expectation is going to be that whoever
(02:27):
you line up against, they better pack a lunch. And
it turns out Georgia is nobody's underdog. And by the way,
the trite phraseology of that statement doesn't begin to tell
the story of that or the slate of college football,
which will dive heavily into tonight, as well as the
(02:48):
NFL slate and many other storylines. But Georgia actually entered
Saturday's matchup at Texas as an underdog for the first
time in fifty games, and after that performance in Austin,
I think it might be safe to say it could
be another fifty games for the oddsmakers decided to give
Georgia four and a half points. They were the visitors,
(03:09):
but for today Saturday, they looked a lot like the
team that has frankly dominated college football over the last
five years. And oh nothing. They just strolled into Texas
and they held the nation's sixth renked offense to a
grand total of thirty eight yards in the first half.
(03:30):
Things got so bad for Texas early that Sarkisian opted
to bench quinn Ewers for a couple of series, hoping
against hope arch Manning would bring a spark. It didn't.
Yours returned into second half and the offense got gears
sort of, but it was too much too late, or
too little too late. They were down twenty three to nothing,
(03:52):
and you were not going to come back against Saturday's
Kirby Smart Georgia team down twenty three to nothing. By
the way, Kirby Smart has to be just giddy about
the fact that his defensive unit, the same one that
allowed forty one points to Alabama just a few weeks ago,
in thirty one points at home last week to Mississippi State.
(04:12):
He was one in five. By the way, Georgia entered
play eighty seventh in the nation and sacks per game.
But they hit quinn Ewers in March Manning more than
Rocky Balboa got hit in any of his five movies.
They sacked him five times. By the way, the combo
of Jalen Walker and Michael Williams is an issue. They
(04:34):
took up space. They rented space for rent free in
Texas's backfield. Give it up to Kirby Smart. This is
still the sheriff in town. They may not be perfect.
He got his one hundred and eighteenth win in fine fashion,
and you can tell he was pissed at postgame, calling
out the entire ESPN College Game Day for picking Texas
(04:56):
to win. You combined that loss with other results on Saturday,
that throws the sec to tremendous flux with believe it
or not. Believe it or not, Texas A and M
and LSU, they're the only unbeaten teams in conference play.
I hate this saying, but you didn't have that on
your Bengo card in August, especially after Texas A and
(05:18):
M lost to Notre Dame which seems like eons ago,
and LSU lost to USC which I'm going to get to.
Speaking of Alabama, Alabama strolled into Tennessee. Tennessee, well, the
score was not what Alabama had hoped for. The balls defense,
(05:41):
they've actually held their opponents under twenty points in the
first seven games. Last time they did that was almost
sixty years ago. We were told Jalen Millroll was morphing
into a potential Heisman candidate. Quarterback sacked three times, nine
tackles for loss. They hurried him an oppressive twelve times
through two tearle picks. The wind keeps Tennessee firmly in
(06:04):
the college football race. Only Georgia remaining on the schedule
as a game that Tennessee will not be favored him.
Stay tuned, by the way, with all due respect, because
I got nothing but respect. Department of Redundancy, Department for
Kaylin de Boor. But they say, you know, you never
(06:24):
want to be the guy who follows the guy. Kleen
de Boor's bank account made it such that he had
to get to Tuscaloosa and the pressure all of a
sudden now he realized why they pay you so much money.
The pressure that's about to hit Kaylen de bor when
he wakes up Monday morning is something we haven't seen
in recent memory. Because this setback of Tennessee marks the
(06:47):
first time since Nick Saban's first season in twenty oh
seven that the Crimson Tide have lost two regular season games.
We're not even out of the month of October yet. Now,
get it, Saban took over a team in disarray back
in twenty oh seven that they win six and seven,
lost five of its last six games, but to bore,
quite honestly, took over a squad that nearly lost getting
(07:11):
to the National Championship game in the semi finals. So
those two situations aren't comparable. Now, de Borg has a
lengthy resume of success and a lengthy resume of offensive success,
and he was supposed to We were told he was
going to bring Jalen Milroe to a Heisman level. That
was not the case Saturday, largely due to the fact
(07:32):
well Alabama's offensive line had major struggles. They couldn't predect,
they couldn't protect Jalen Morroe. He was shelf shocked from
the constant pressure. Even when he had time, you could
see he was seeing ghosts like Sam Darnold once said
he did because he couldn't even find the open men downfield.
(07:53):
This is the biggest issue that Kalin de bor is
going to face other than the media and the pressure
and fans go crazy. We'll get to that incident later.
I might need more than four hours tonight. Pass protection
is going to be the biggest thing that Kaylen de
Boor needs to fix and up up next Missouri, and
they're no slouch. See here's the deal. Even with the
(08:13):
twelve team playoff format, it's almost impossible now to see
Alabama making the field. It's not that they can't, but
if you see what's in front of them and they help,
they're gonna need regardless of how they finish the campaign.
Can you imagine after the Georgia win and the expectations
that the Crimson Tide Faithful had missing out on the
(08:34):
College Football Playoff, the twelve team playoff format that would
mark an underwhelming first season. Unfortunately for a good guy
and Kylen de Bor and Tuscaloosa. They take it serious
down there. Yes, it does just mean more. Go down
there and check it out for yourself. If you don't
believe me. Speaking of expectations, don't tell Kurt Signetti, who
(08:56):
came over from James Madison, as he took the job
in India in December. First thing he said at the
press conference was quote, I win google me. Yeah he does.
He took it to Nebraska to day fifty six points,
and I think the whole Nebraska program must be in
concussion protocol. Can anybody slow down Indiana? I don't think so.
(09:20):
I don't think Michigan can either. I don't even think
Illinois can. By the way, Illinois beat Michigan at their
own game you talk about, you know, they wore throwback uniforms.
It was a throwback game as well. Illinois is for real.
You know, the old Wisconsin coach via Arkansas, give him credit.
(09:40):
He's got himself a nice club there in Illinois. And
by the way, whether it's Jack Tuttle or Davis Warn
or Alex Orgy, you know, and by the way he
said it, Shearan Moore said it, I really like my guys.
Michigan does not have a quarterback, and that's that's not
their only problem. They have a lot of other problems
as well. But this win ensures Illine I will have
a serious say in deciding the Big ten race. Now,
(10:04):
you know, don't celebrate too much because Illinois gets to
travel to Oregon next week and if somehow they beat Oregon.
Illinois beats Oregon, you're gonna talk about chaos, the capital
ch you got Penn State in Indiana defeated. Well, how
state Illinois and Oregon would have one loss of peace.
I've got so much to say to with regarding USC
(10:27):
that I'm gonna have to hold off until after Dan's
update at the bottom of the hour. But we have
to get to it, all right. It's not just you know,
we just have a saying in Detroit, You're not gonna
You're never gonna like the way you lose. You're never
gonna like the way you lose. There is no such
thing as a good loss. Biggest bull Craft statement in
the history of sports. Good loss. That's like a good
kidney stone. There's no such thing as a good loss.
(10:50):
But in the fourth quarter, s SEE was outscored by
Minnesota fourteen zip. In the second half, including overtime, they
were outscored twenty seven to ten against Penn State Saturday.
As I'm meeting my pizza with my wife, I'm looking
at this thing. USC I've scored by Maryland twenty two
to seven in the second half. That's sixty three to
seventeen for scoring at home. Hold that thought, because we're
(11:12):
gonna get to USC, We're gonna get to Miami, We're
gonna get to the Big twelve. What the hell happened
at Oklahoma? What an incredible, incredulous day for college football.
And we're just getting started. But coming up, we're gonna
take a quick shift into the NFL. There's so much
NFL news. We got to bring on our NFL on Saturday,
Jason Gershorn and have a little convo. I'm Bernie Frattle.

All right back on the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio.
Come to live from the Tara Act dot Com studios
here in Las Vegas. Would take a wo three m Pacific,
six am Eastern. Were just getting started. It's welcome in
a gentleman. He's joined me many times on the show.
One of our NFL in Sader's here at Fox, an
award winning NFL writer, co founder of the Leap of
Packers newsletters. Say hello to Jason Hirshorn. Jason, thanks for
(12:16):
jumping in tonight.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
How's it going, Bernie?
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Going well, buddy? And there's so much to talk about.
We just got to go fast. But I definitely want
to start with the New York Jets and the drama there.
And I want to start with this, Jason, because they
don't pass blockwell, they don't run blackwell, they don't protect
Aaron Rodgers, they don't run the ball well. So what
they do They get a wide receiver who I personally
saw here in Las Vegas sulk when he didn't get
(12:40):
the ball. What are your thoughts on the DeVante Adams
trade and the whole Jets or deal now is it
appears to be Woody Johnson. Whatever Aaron wants, Aaron gets.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
I mean, there's obviously some truth to that, right, Like,
they wouldn't have gone for DeVante Adams if there wasn't
at least some motivation related to Aaron Rodgers, whether it's
him asking for DeVante directly, or the coaching staff and
the front office and the ownership knowing that someone that
you can want to play with again. At the same time,
this is a team that went all in on this
(13:12):
version of the roster to off seasons ago, and there's
no real degating off that path. So do I think
devont Adams is going to fix all their problems? No,
I don't think anyone really is arguing that. But you're
so deep into this anyway, you're so pop committed to
this version of the team that throwing what is essentially
a third round pick. I know it's a scenario where
(13:33):
it's become a second, but realistically that's going to be
a third at the Vanta Adams, he's still a very
high end receiver. I think it makes sense for this team.
I don't think it's going to fix again all of
their problems, but their best chance is to get into
the playoffs this year. Hope they get pratuitous group of
teams and are able to make a run. It's not
a great path to victory if it's talking about the
(13:54):
super Bowl, but it's the best one they're going to
have for the foreseeable future. So when you look at
it from that perspective, I don't think they've really had
a better course of action.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
With all the respect, I really wonder if DeVante Adams
is a high level receiver anymore. I've observed him three
years here. It felt like Alan Wizard was doing a
very good job, and I think Garrett Wilson's the star.
So all of a sudden, you got these mouths to feed.
What's the dynamic in the receiver room? Now? Do they
really open him with welcome in with open arms? Can
you see a little bit of perhaps you know, looking
(14:26):
at this with a jaundice eye.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Yeah, I don't think that's going to be that big
of a problem. I mean, Alan Wizard is certainly someone
of that Aaron Rodgers like to throw you because of
all that time they set together in Green Bay. He's
not a player who consistently separate and that's obviously been
a problem for this office. Garrett Wilson has a ton
of talent, but he's still need to improve as a
route runner, like he doesn't separate astetistically as someone with
his physical skill set should. Devanta Adams, however, does He
(14:53):
may not be the exact same all pro level receiver
that Rogers had back in Green Bay in twenty twenty one,
it earlier, but there aren't ten receivers in the NFL
at this point more consistent at him with him because
it's separating from defenders guys who frankly are able to
get over the top, and that's at an issue for
this particular offense. So yeah, you know, I'm not saying
(15:16):
that if you're someone like Mike Williams, for example, you're
thrilled about this, But this isn't really about Mike Williams, right, Like,
this is about making this offense as functional as it
can be, as is going to help with that.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Talk about Jason hrsharn Our, Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider
Award winning NFL writer, co founder of The Lead Last
Thing on the Jets. Obviously, you know I can't prove it,
nor do I care, But it seems there was some
causal effect between Rogers presiding over Robert Salad being let
(15:51):
go even though he denied it. And then it looks
like Mike Wilson or Mike Williams now the receiver who
ran the wrong route Bundy Knight, which Aaron Rodgers shared
with the world, will probably find his way out of
out of New York. So to that end, how much
additional pressure do you think Aaron Rodgers has to get
(16:11):
this team to the Promised Land?
Speaker 3 (16:15):
I mean, I don't know how much work pressure he
could have, right, Like, the entire thing really rest on
his shoulders, and that was the case when he arrived
in New York. That's the way it was presented by
the team. So yeah, there's a lot of pressure on
Aaron Rodgers. That was also true two weeks ago, it
was true two months ago, it was true sixteen months ago.
So yeah, it's a situation that's probably uncomfortable given that
(16:38):
they currently stand at two and four. But whether they
got Adams or not, whether they kept Robert Toller or not,
it is so ultimately going to be a narrative built
around what Aaron Rodgers did or didn't do with New
York Jeps.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
I didn't pose the question properly because four weeks ago
they weren't two and four and four weeks or sixteen
months ago. Robert Sallows at the helm, he took a
hell of a lot of heat, so he's no longer
there to deflect that heat, and it looks like Mike
Williams won't be either. I guess that's what I said,
But I think you've sufficiently answered the question. He already
had pressure to begin with, and you can't quantify pressure right.
(17:11):
Pressure's pressure, although their window is narrowing. So let's move on.
Let's talk about the Dallas Cowboys. When I had Yan
in August, that was pretty vehement about the fact and
I thought this would be the year they go eight
to nine because mentally, I don't know how they can
function now they're only they're three and three in it's
or at least, so I could be wrong. Give me
your synopsis of what you're seeing in Dallas, not just
(17:31):
on the field, but off the field.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
The offense has not been as good as they were
last year or early the year before, and I think
that's been most to the narrative. But I think it's
more important to them that that defense has been nowhere
close to what it was when Dan Quinn was running
the operation. Others contributing factors that as well, like like
a Parsons is currently injured, they have other injuries in
the front and in the back yend, like these are
(17:57):
things that are obviously going to impact the defense, regardless
of whose co ordinating it. But the Mike Zibber experiment
has thus far really not worked. It look great in
week one the Fantastics start for Dallas and that point
this has really looked like one of the poor units
in the league, despite having a fairly high level of talent.
Now with the offense, we have seen this particular group
(18:19):
of characters, the quarterbacks, the skill position players, you know,
some version of this offensive line put it together. So
I think there is a path of success on that
side of the ball. But the defense, because it's a
different unit, both in terms of the construction and in
terms of the coordination, I have good questions as to
whether or not that can get sufficiently turned around. And
in that division, the Philopi Eagles obviously, you know, they
(18:42):
have a decent record, but they've been limping around. But
you know, the offense has not really figured itself out yet.
The defense has had its issues. You know, Washington is
obviously looked great at this point in the season, and
the Giants some ways could be competive. In other weeks
they just don't show up at all. But that's enough
of a hurdle collectively that it's really hard to see
this Dallas Cowboys team rebounding enough to put all the
(19:04):
position to really make a run for the tootball. And
that's what this season is all about. We know that
because of the common situation with the head coach is
the way that the owner has set this up is
a do or die season for Michael Karkey and the.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Cowboys, absolutely, and I have not seen something like this
since Jason Garrett where a guy goes into a season
with no contract essentially, But that's a story for a
different day. And I think your points on Mike Zimmer
are duly noted. Somehow that's flown under the raid or
ever so slightly because Dak and CD got ninety million.
But you bring up an excellent point real quickly. Deshaun
(19:42):
Watson in Cleveland. Obviously, Kevin Stefanski continues to be a
good soldier for Jimmy Haslam, how much longer can they
continue with this charade? And how much longer will they
continue with this charade?
Speaker 3 (19:53):
I don't think anyone at this point can really answer
the second part of the question. Because we stuck with
it this long, they should have made the change already.
I don't think that's a mystery to anybody. Like Deshaun
Watson has not just been the worst starting quarterback in
the NFL this season. We have not seen through the
first six weeks of the season a quarterback playing this
poorly in essentially every metric over the past decade plus,
(20:16):
Like this is nearing historic levels of core play by
a quarterback. And you know, you can throw out the
fact that he has that giant conder, to throw out
the fact that he came to Cleveland under such let's say,
the various circumstances. Those things, to a certain degree don't
matter when you're making these decisions. Now, Like that's all
stuff that's already happened. You can't change that. But they
(20:38):
are choosing, whether it's because of the ownership, because the
coaches stuff actually believes that Shauna Watson can turn it around,
They're sticking with this quarterback that is holding them back,
and it's creating a situation where you have a very
talented roster top to bottom, one that's peopable under the
right circumstances of winning that division, and that quarterback is
essentially meaning they're making it so that none of that matters.
(21:00):
They have another quarterback on the roster who knows not
a world beer. But we've seen Jameis Winston play decent
football more recently, and we've seen it from Deshaun Watson,
and at a certain point you'd think that they'd make
that change. But that point came a week ago. Two
weeks ago. They're going with this version of the offense
at least until we fight out you know something about
(21:21):
John Watson, talter, James Winston, Teltic. It's just a very
odd situation. I don't have a great parallel for it,
because really, any other team with this four quarterback play
would have made a change. And the Lee D. Brown
just forf you.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
To do so, Jason, great stuff. As always. I know
you're super busy and you squeeze me in tonight, and
I know you're busy throughout the holidays, so hope to
catch you in January when the playoffs start, buddy, all right,
Thank Eric Bernet. Thanks. That is Jason Hershorn, one of
our Fox Sports Radio NFL insiders, in an award winning
(21:56):
NFL writer, co founder of the Leap, which is Green
Bay Packers. Maggie. By the way, the only analogy I
can come up with Jimmy Haslum and Deshaun Watson Cleveland.
It's almost like if you've ever been to a restaurant
and you've overpaid for an extremely expensive meal and you're
eating it and it's terrible, but you're gonna wolf it
down because you paid for it, even if it makes
you sick. That just feels like what's happening in Cleveland.
(22:18):
I don't know if that's the best analogy, but I
think it's an analogy you can relate to. Coming up, we're
going to continue with the craziness of college football. But
first we go to a guy Will He's quick with
a joke and a lightier smoke, and there's nowhere else
you'd rather be with. It's our Dan Byer Bernie.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
Great to be with you, and we have got tons
of college football to get to, plus a busy day
coming up in the NFL. But we start on the
diamond where the Yankees and Guardians playing a crazy one again,
and this time it's Juan Soto to the rescue and
the one too swung on a high fly at a
center back, goes Thomas on the track.
Speaker 5 (22:57):
He's at the wall.
Speaker 6 (22:59):
She's come a three run home run. The Yankee bench
comes on the field. Wow, what a Soto photo.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
John Sterling on the Yankees Radio network with the call
of Won Soto's three run shot in the tenth inning
in Game five of the America League Championship Series, essentially
sending the Yankees to the Fall Classic. They top the
Guardians five to two, win the ALCS four games to one,
and the Yankees are back of the World Series for
the first time since two thousand and nine, their forty
(23:29):
first appearance as a franchise. John Carlo Stanton continues his
hot hitting this postseason, hitting his fifth home run of
the playoffs, a two run shot in the sixth inning,
but the Yankees back of the World Series. Mets and
Dodgers played Game six of the NLCS Sunday night in
Los Angeles eight to eight Eastern time. Is the first
pitch You'll see it on Fox Sports one Dodgers up
(23:49):
three to two in the series. You mentioned the crazy
day in college football. Kirby smart win number one hundred
in his career, is fifth drank. Georgia wins at number
one Texas thirty to fifteen. Also in the SEC, Number
eleven Tennessee took out seven thranked Alabama twenty four to seventeen.
Elsewhere in the top ten, Number six Miami a winner
against Louisville fifty two forty five. Well aighth rank DLAs
(24:12):
you took care of Arkansas thirty four to ten. Number
nine Iowa State a winner against UCF barely thirty eight
thirty five, but the Cyclones remain unbeaten. And number ten
Clemson took out Virginia forty eight thirty one, notre namering
twelfth in the country. Top Georgia Tech in Atlanta thirty
one to thirteen, and how about Indiana seven and zero.
For the first time since nineteen sixty seven As the
sixteenth thrank Hoosiers roun to Nebraska fifty six to seven.
(24:36):
TCU won late at Utah thirteen to seven, while UNLV
got a victory at Oregon State thirty three to twenty five.
Rebels improved to six and one. Week seven of the
NFL season starts in London nine thirty Eastern times Sunday
morning is the Patriots and Jaguars will do battle. Titans
will start Mason Rudolph quarterback against the Bills, as Will
Lovis Nurse's shoulder injury Commanders running back Brian Robinson expected
(24:59):
to go against the Panthers. Seahawks running back Keneth Walker
the third added to the injury report because of an illness,
and that big Vikings Lions show down. Aaron Jones expected
to go four minutesota and there's a report from the
NFL network saying that Lion's defense have been Aiden Hutchinson
has a chance, just a chance, Bernie to return from
his broken leg at the Lions make the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Just a chance, just a chance. Back to you, Dan,
I want to take a minute here to tap into
that fertile brain. And by the way, I talked to him,
my Detroit peeps and they're kind of telling me the opposite.
But I'll tell you more about that later. They actually
rushed them into surgery that night. The bone was so broken,
there were bone fragments. You don't want Dan Green to
sit in so it's a very serious injury. I would
(25:42):
hope it happens. But all right, let's tap into that
fertile brain. I want to play a variation DNS sort
of word association, even though it's not a single word.
I just want to get your quick thoughts on these
various items. Let's start here. Lincoln Riley is five and
nine in his last four team as a head coach
in USC. Your thoughts.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
I thought of Lincoln Riley as an offensive coach. Now
I think he's an offensive coach. It seems like over
this last stretch of games, you know, for some reason,
there is just this disdain for Lincoln Riley, and I
don't necessarily understand it, Ernie. I don't know if it's
people don't like the hype and they'll point to the
numbers that you just point out.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
USC is three to four.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
I'm not trying to stick up for the guy, but
I just I find the piling out of Lincoln Riley.
It's almost amusing, because I don't I never thought that
Lincoln Riley was a bad guy. And I'm sure Oklahoma
fans are relishing at this right now, but they've got
their own issues. But yeah, maybe not the offensive genius
that we thought maybe not the head coach.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
Sometimes these things happen.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
I just I feel sometimes the Lincoln Riley thing just
gets so out of control because people didn't like that
he had the boy genius label put on him pretty
early in his career.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Well, I think I haven't heard anybody attack his character personally.
I haven't done it. I haven't heard anybody. But no, no,
I didn't say that they did.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
Bernie Well I said was that for some reason, people
love to watch Lincoln Riley lows I will filing on.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
I think. I think the bottom line is this, Dan,
when you get one hundred million dollars and you took
over for a guy Clay Hilton, they couldn't wait to
run out on a rail and it was forty six
and twenty four. It goes back to my opening commentary
about expectations. So that was a blank canvas for you
to take it wherever you want. I don't think he
can spend it anyway because I gave him my opening
(27:42):
commentary and I'm going to visit Bay There out scored
sixty three to seventeen in the fourth quarter. They led
Michigan with a minute ago. Everybody forgets that. I don't
think they were pushed around as people think there was
the one long run. But this isn't. This isn't I
mean as someone who originally grew up spent a lot
of time in SoCal and the people really thought they
were getting act to the USC glory days. Man, Dan,
They're just just look at the results, is all I'm
(28:05):
really alluding to. Yeah, I get that. I I just
I look.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
I look at the I look at the scenario and
their four losses, all of them one score games this year,
a lot of them in heartbreak fashion of how does
this happen again? And I'm not saying that USC is
getting their return on Lincoln Riley.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
I just I And you're right, And I.
Speaker 4 (28:26):
Think it's it's the the polarizing aspect of USC. It's
it's how it did go down at Oklahoma. I think
all of those factors end up coming coming to play.
And maybe maybe Lincoln Riley isn't the coach at the
level and I think that we've seen the data. He's
(28:47):
not at the level of a say a Kirby Smart,
who I just mentioned one is one hundredth game, who's
got multiple national title titles. You can't put him in
the same breath as as as a coach like that.
But I just find it so funny that it's always
about USC and Lincoln Riley, and maybe it just comes
with the territory and in gurwage that comes with it.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
And when you look, he's a big name guy, came
over from Oklahoma. He's put a lot of quarterbacks in
the NFL. So it goes back to quote expectations and
the juxtaposition of the expectations. I'm not calling for a job.
I think to be crazy to fire, and be careful
what you wish for, all right, Just like the people
who wanted Harball fired three years ago, I wasn't one
of them, and I covered that program for a lot
of years. Let's talk about Alabama and Kaylen de Bor
(29:32):
your thoughts on that program. Just two weeks ago, there
riding high and now they might not make the playoff.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Yeah, the Georgia game was something else, and maybe the
end of the Georgia game, and despite them winning, told
us more about Alabama than we really thought. I had
even said a couple of weeks ago, I felt like
we were really giving Kleen de boor not a free pass.
But we just kind of were kind of were overlooking
(29:58):
and just saying plugging, look at what you did at Washington.
Alabama's going to be back, And it's just not that easy.
And it's not that easy when you have the number
of players and some of the CALIBERO players that ended
up transferring out of that program.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
There are questions about.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
You know, Jalen Milroe at the even last year, at
the end of last year, and I think that there
continue to be questions. This year just doesn't seem like
there's a lot clicking right now with Alabama. And I'm
not surprised by it because I just don't think how
I understand someone taking someone else's players.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
But it's a new world in college football.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
Alabama had more than a couple of guys saying, all right,
I'm not in for this, We'll move on, We'll go elsewhere.
So I'm not saying that they should lose to Bandy
and it's not meant to be a dist to Vandy.
But that loss doesn't happen. That's because it took forty
years for it to happen. But yeah, I'm not necessarily shocked,
to be completely honest with you, that this is where
Alabama is at this point fair?
Speaker 2 (30:57):
All right, So I want to talk about the Dodgers
Game six Sunday night, and loved the John Sterling sound.
The last time the Yankees were in the World Series,
we were getting an a bomb from a Rod and
we still get the alliteration. Gotta love John Sterling. The
reason I bring up the Dodgers dan is on a
scale of one to ten, what concern do you think
(31:19):
the local faithful have? Because remember last year Philadelphia was
heading home with a three to two lead in the
series over Arizona prompably lost both games at home. This
happens more than people want to believe. You got a
bullpen game tonight against Sean and I, who's been lights
out so far. Do you think this goes to a
Game seven? And what is your level of concern that
(31:39):
the Mets could steal both games this week? Well? I
have no dog in this fight.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
I don't care about either team, even though I live
in southern California. But I can tell you this, and
I think I in dealing with other Dodger fans, in
talking to them and speaking for them.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Yeah, you're concerned.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
You wish you could have You know, I'll shut things
out in Game five on Friday and it didn't happen.
And when you say bullpen game, you automatically raise your ears.
And I also think that there is this element of
the Dodgers who feel like, Okay, now, what's gonna happen
to us? Not that they're a cursed franchise, but I
do think of late they're like wondering what could happen.
(32:18):
I actually think things set up pretty well. I don't
think that the Dodgers are going to lose both games.
I think they will win at least one of the two.
I don't know if it'll be on Sunday night or
if it will be on Monday night, Bernie, but I
do think the Dodgers end up winning. And the last
time that they had a bullpen game and a must
win situation worked out pretty.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Well for them against the San Diego Padres.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
And so despite what happened in Game two of the series,
I still think that the Dodgers in that lineup are
good enough to win this series. And I don't think
any Game seven there's pressure. I'm sorry, like the Mets
will have pressure on them in a Game seven as well,
so they will feel it. But I just don't see
the Dodgers losing both of these games in Los Angeles.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
Finally, Dan, and we all saw what took place in
Texas Saturday as the game descended into chaos. I don't
know where all these bottles came from. I didn't know
you could have bottles in a stadium anymore. But that's
not the question.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
This is.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
If I could have only asked you one of these
questions would have been the one, because I want to
get your thoughts. How much Dan, of a causal effect
was there between the chaos that ensued and the referees
changing their call. I would hope zero.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
I hope that there would be no effect of that whatsoever,
that the officials just ended up getting together having the conversation,
and that maybe maybe the one percent Burnie that would
have an effect is that it allowed the officials that
amount of time to talk about the play, even asked
the water bottles were ringing raining down on the end zone.
(33:55):
By the way, kudos to all the cheerleaders from Texas
and everybody else who chipped in and picking up.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
The water bottles. If there was a connection it with that.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
The officials got it a little longer to talk about
the play and to actually pick up the flag on it.
I don't think it was past interference. I actually think
that in the end the call was right. I don't
think how they overturn the call was correct. And I
think that Kirby Smart agrees with me in that fashion,
especially when you hear that he said that they tried
to try to steal the game from him in Austin.
(34:26):
But I don't think that the actual actions of the
water bottles changed the referees decision. It's just maybe it
allowed them more time to talk about the play and
then allow.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Them to give Texas the I T and not call
the pedal the other play fair enough. I mean, it's
against a lot of practice that comes you without a license,
even though we all do it one time or another.
But in that particular deal, I was more of a
casual observer than anything else. Georgia had already asserted control.
Great stuff, Dan, We'll check back with you a bit
(34:57):
later as well. Coming up, I just want to lay
out a couple of factoids about USC in an objective manner,
to see there are objective truths and there are personal feelings.
I just want to share some objective truths about what
has happened to USC this year? And I'll give you
a little keys. The Trojans have actually held a fourth
quarter lead in all seven of their games this season,
(35:21):
but somehow they have a losing record. And if you
go back over twenty years, there have been over two
hundred college teams that have held a fourth quarter lead
in their first seven games, but that seas only the
second one in twenty years out of two hundred teams,
they have a losing record. When you're good enough to
have the lead in the fourth quarter in all seven games.
(35:44):
Got more ray material like that coming up? I'm Bernie
fraddlework comedy, A line from the La Vegas Fox Sports
Radio Diirec dot Com studios. Keep it locked right here.
You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show. I'm Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (35:55):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Yep. Mama did say there'd be days like this, but
Mama didn't say there'd be months like this. Paging the
USC Trojans back on the Bernie Fratter Show company live
from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio TIREC dot Com Studios.
Not that I cared much, but I understand and this
(36:19):
is now becoming a little bit more revisionist history. That
the Trojans moved to the Big Ten was allegedly a
very controversial one, leaving the friendly confines of the PAC twelve,
and the new move brought in plenty of money, But
the early returns are showing that it's leaving some bruises. Saturday,
the latest USC blew a fourteen point lead the second
(36:42):
half to Maryland and they had to force or check
that they had to dodge field storming fans. What happened
to all the conferences laying out all these fines for
people storming the field in the court. What's happening with that?
I think it's working. But story for a different day.
Here's the bigger story. Pretend you're a USC fan. Tweet
at mean, tell me to me what you think. I'm
(37:04):
reporting this objectively. I don't have your dan talk about
the Dodgers and Mets. I don't have a dog in
this fight regarding USC or any of these college teams.
But this marks four losses in five conference games this season.
I remember the days when USC owned the Big Ten,
they owned everybody. And also those four losses in five
(37:29):
games now have resulted in three in a row in October,
and all three have a common theme and the ability
to close down the stretch. They get outscored fourteen and
nothing against Minnesota in the fourth quarter. They get scored
against Penn State twenty seven to ten in the second half.
They get outscored by Maryland twenty two to seven in
the second half. As you heard me say a minute ago,
(37:52):
the Trojans have actually held a fourth quarter league and
all seven other games, but somehow they got a losing record.
Two hundred teams in the last twenty years have held
a fourth quarter lead in their first seven games of
the season. USC is one of them. Only one other
of those teams out of two hundred and twenty years
posted a losing record. Now, there was a questionable decision
on Saturday the field goal attempt with a buck fifty
(38:13):
six to play on Maryland's thirty one yard line. Sure
the three points would have made it a two score game,
but on fourth and one a conversion ends the game.
What are the factors they considered making that decision? Then
the attempt was blocked. Can you believe it? It's becoming
what a Yellen movie. That sets up the Turps great
field position. They drive for the go ahead and touchdown.
(38:34):
Lincoln Riley is now five and nine in his last
fourteen games as a head Coach's it ain't how you drive,
it's how you arrive. Let's see what happens between now
and the rest of the season. You know. Meanwhile, Miami
sort of another masterpiece for cam Ward. They had, you know,
at the end of the year. They don't ask Kyle
just how many in Miami oftentimes looks like a drunk
(38:56):
cross in an icy street, but they managed to somehow
get it done. And by the way, you heard me
give my props to Indiana a minute ago. Two schools
in the Big twelve and are the weekend undefeated. And
those same two are going to exit the same way
because they were able to finish dramatically. BYU got matt
and has started Friday night with their matchup against Oklahoma State.
(39:18):
Is a nine point favorite on the road, they pulled
out with a second to go. The Cowboys take a
late lead, but the Cougar storm down the field. That's
the stuff legends are made of. By the way, Iowa
State same thing. They trailed by fourteen points to the
U at least the f but they roar back you
saw what happened there. I won't even bring up Oklahoma,
the turnovers, the fumble, the interception return, fourteen yards of
(39:39):
total offense to start the game. Man, this is a
wonderful year at college football because I am here for it.
You talk about entertainment, We don't have royalty in this country.
We have college football. Keep a lock. You're listening to
the Bernie frattlel Show on Fox Sports Radio. Well, that's right,
you heard the man. The Bernie Fraddles Show just keeps
(40:00):
olden right along. My name is Bernie Frattle. We are

in Las Vegas. Tyrack dot com. We'll help you get

The way tire buying should be, Well, you've heard me
say a thousand times. The future always has a way
(40:21):
of arriving ahead of schedule. Tuesday night, the NBA tips off,
which should be another exciting season. And that is why
every Saturday night at midnight Pacific time, on the Bernie
Frattle Show, three simple words, It's that time. Mark Medina
Medina magic our Fox Sports Radio NBA guru Mark, Here
(40:45):
we go Tuesday night, it tips off, it all starts
up again and right on to Paul, George is hurt
in Philadelphia. What can you tell us?
Speaker 7 (40:56):
Well, yeah, you can't help, but wonder if it's the
old story. But you know, they said that he's going
to be reevaluated in a week. I think there's a
sense of relief that the injury could have been a
lot worse, especially given his you know, injury history. But
you never know.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
You do never know another guy you never really know about.
I'm just trying to figure out what's going on with
Kawhi Leonard, a guy I really like a lot, or
is he just was he just born with a bum knee?
What in the world's going on there?
Speaker 7 (41:29):
Yeah? I was headed into what to him this week,
trying to get those answers, and the Clippers would only
say that he's out indefinitely. That means he's not playing
the season opener against Phoenix on Wednesday. But when I
asked Tylu for a piece for athl on Sports, Okay,
when is he going to start practicing? He said he
wasn't sure, other than he's hopeful that will happen soon,
(41:49):
and that one was it pressed further, well is he
out for the season? Is there any chance? He shot
back and shot down that notion very strongly. So I guess,
you know, you take that at a slover of positive
news that they at least expect him to play. But
here's the reality, Bernie. He hasn't played an NBA game
since last May when he had the information in his
(42:11):
right knee that kept him out for the last eight
regular season games and I believe four of the six
playoff games against Dallas. You would think that would be
enough time to heal, but it hasn't been. And ty
Wu admitted that he did have a little bit of
a setback during Team USA practices, where you know, ty
Wu witnessed because he was one of the assistant coaches.
(42:33):
Now they stressed Tywu in the Clipper stress he hasn't
had a setback since training camp started, but he's had
enough of setback since the USA experiment that he hasn't
been able to practice the team at all. It has
just been individual work. So given Kawhi's injury history, he
can't help. But you know, be weary that this is
(42:54):
the same old story again.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
Well, and correct me if I'm wrong. I distinctly remember
our converse stations in me as the season wound down
and they were arresting him so he might be ready
for the playoffs. And then the playoffs started, and every
time you asked the question, you got the same kind
of platitudes that you got sounds like the other day.
Fast forward to July, same situation. Doesn't play in the Olympics.
We both thought there was no reason to believe until
(43:19):
a week ago that Kawhi wouldn't be ready for opening
night in the NBA. So can anybody. I mean, this
is like one of those mystery hockey injuries where it's
like a lower body injury and they never tell you anything.
Speaker 7 (43:29):
What I mean, we know what's inflammation and his right
knee and it's the same knee that got surgery after
had an ACL injury. Now, these outside medical experts don't
work with the Clippers, but they're medical experts. They went
to medical school, their professional doctors. Now I talked with
three of them this week for a piece for Sports Kida,
and they all said the obvious that we all think
(43:51):
that the fact that he's out of training camp already
is a red flag, and you can't help but wonder,
even though he's been fully recovered from his because that
is the same knee, and because the ACL is a
very serious injury, that once you have that injury, there's
always going to be things that pop up. I think
(44:12):
another thing to keep your mind to keep an eye
on here is that relative to previous seasons, he played
sixty eight regular season games last season. That was a
lot more than before. Doctor Allen Byer specifically wondered are
they going to go more load management now this season
because there could be a thinking that, you know what,
(44:35):
he played way too many games last season. Now the
time is to be conservative. But obviously this is an
ideal because the Clippers want to be competitive, especially losing
Paul George. They want to have buzz and into it them.
But I'll tell you this, like I talked with Norman Pale,
he's a pretty good rotation player, is going to be
a starter, great two way player. The feeling within the
locker room is that they still feel like they're a
(44:56):
team to be reckoned with because one, they feel like
Kawhi is going to be back soon, but too James
Harden's you know, has a track record of being an
All Star number one guy. They do have a lot
of depth with guys like Norman Palell, viach A Zoobots,
Terence Man. They really think that Tyler is a great coach.
Jeff Van Gundy is now an assistant and he's been
(45:17):
really emphasizing a lot of good defensive concepts. But I
do buy all that on paper. But I can't help
but try to look at the rest of the Western
Conference just how much better all the teams have gotten
and think, Okay, can the Clippers beat these teams? Probably
not so, even on their best days, it still might
(45:38):
not be enough.
Speaker 2 (45:39):
Way Mark Dean and Deina Magic every Saturday night, twelve
midnight Pacific on the Bernie Frattle Show. Let's stay with
the Clippers for a second to what's agree If you
had dealings with Steve Bombers. He seems like a really
fascinating guy. I happen to see the sixty minutes special
on him. Really an interesting guy, and he's a guy
that you have to root for a little bit, right,
you have to, even though he we in our business
(46:00):
we don't try to root a lot. Have you had
many dealings with Steve Bomber?
Speaker 7 (46:05):
Yeah? I tore it into a dome as part of
the media when he when he was showing it. He's
very enthusiastic. I mean, you know, I don't want to
say like he's an underdog story. He's a billionaire. I
mean he's he's had a lot of success, but he
is very enthusiastic. He cares about the product. He is
a super fan, and you know, most owners outside of
(46:29):
Mark Cuban aren't like that. They're usually more behind the
scenes and stoic. But I think that for all the
you know ups and downs that the Clippers have had
during you know lob City, uh, you know post Donald
Stirling obviously once he inherited the team and bought it,
and you know the Kawhi Leonard Paul George partnership at
the Neal Championships. Everyone will always swear by how great
(46:52):
of an owner Steve Bomber is, and obviously he's willing
to spend not only on a good roster, but on
a green arena. That being, I do think that this
isn't Steve Balmer per se. It's more organizationally. There is
I think some head scratching, even when he would take
it into account. Paul George's inconsistency, his injury just recently
(47:13):
in Philadelphia. Why they didn't just go all wain with
Paul George simply because they already went in with Kawhi.
They're trying to build buzz for into a dome, but
they decide to be more cost conscious with Paul George.
But you know what, there's a reason why they were
a little bit because of what we just saw in Philly.
Speaker 2 (47:30):
I'm glad you mentioned Mark Cuban because one of my
no one likes the name dropper. But I got to
interview Mark back in November of five in his war
room in Dallas. Oh wow, he was terrific, man, He
was terrific. He just bought the mass a couple of
years before, and I'll never forget what he told me.
He said, we're selling sore throats and raw hands. We
(47:51):
want people up and at it and having a fan experience.
And I think, as Yogi Bert would say, Balmer and
Mark Cuban have different similarities because Bamber's also selling that
fan experience, not the least of which it's my understanding.
If you go to the Intuit Dome, you're not going
to be waiting in line for the bathroom. They got
more bathrooms there in any other arena, and that you
know you can't poo poo that you know about that.
Speaker 7 (48:13):
Right, pun intended? Right, Yeah, I've been into a dome.
There's plenty of bathrooms. There's also an intercom that when
it's five minutes before you know halftime is over, there's
a reminder to get back into your seats. The game
is about to start. Their concession stands are all grab
and go so you can tay with your phone, and
(48:34):
there's shorter lines. So yeah, this arena is very much
built for the modern fan where it's about convenience, but
also it's about trying to make sure there's enough of
a good atmosphere. And I and I say this, you know,
with a lot of candor here, no disrespect. Just is
what it is being at Clipper games. A lot of
times the music is what makes the atmosphere good, not
(48:57):
your fans, because it's a Laker town. When Lake are playing,
there's more Laker fans. A lot of times when there's
visiting teams, there's more visitors. But you know, the better
of the props be, the better the enthusiasm will be.
And I think the frictionless fan experience will help a lot,
because I will just maximize fans being in the.
Speaker 2 (49:14):
Suits exactly he wants. He doesn't want fans in line
waiting for food, fans in line waiting to go to
the restroom. He wants them in their seats during the Clippers.
So let's flip to the other team in Los Angeles,
to Lakers, and I think we got to get some
props to a young rookie that had quite a game
last night. Of course, you know Mark, I'm talking about
(49:35):
Quincy Oliveri out of Xavier, who was an undrafted free agent,
got himself a nice two way contract, which means he'll
spend time in the G League, but by virtue of that,
he has to spend a certain amount of time in
the NBA. He's another guard I haven't seen him play
that I can remember. Tell me about Quincy Oliveri because
my frame of reference I covered those great Pistons teams
(49:58):
and we had a guy named Ben Walla. He was
also undrafted. He made it to the Hall of Fame.
Tell me about Quincy Oliverari.
Speaker 7 (50:04):
Yeah, well, Quincy Alavari, He's made a really good opportunity
into something bigger. Because he's provided a lot of great
three point shooting. He's very aggressive, he's a good defender,
and I think that you know, obviously everyone's gravitated towards
him because of how a positive an attitude he has
and how much he's just really trying to soak into
(50:25):
the moment. I mean, this goes beyond the moment that
he had with Steph Curry after the Warriors Lakers preseason
game where he talked about how much of a fan
he was growing up and Steph validated him instead, I'm
a big fan of yours, two of your game, And
you know, there were autographs exchange during media day Lebron
James was embracing him too, and during you know, some
(50:46):
of the photo captions when he was with Lebron, people
were putting number forty one as if no one ever
heard of him, and they had fun with that that.
You know, hey, everyone knows who forty one is now
and what this means with two way contract, he's going
to We'll see what happens. But the way the structure
is is that guys on two way deals can play
(51:10):
be with an NBA team for up to fifty days,
So there is or fifty games to clarify. So there
is a little bit of some calculations that teams have
to do strategically on how many times they'll be available
on the bench. But he already is someone that can
fulfill positional needs because he's a great outside shooter. And
(51:33):
that's one of the many things that jj Ritck's trying
to turn around with this team. Take more threes and
make more threes and someone even like don't connect the
rookie first round pick. I think we'll get legitimate rotation
time because he is a walking bucket.
Speaker 2 (51:50):
Well, regarding Quincy OLIVERI you know who, I give a
lot of credit to Mark jj Reddick for having the
vision and the wherewithal to make a decision of this
nature which could maybe let us bark and the roster
and surely give this young man a chance. I really
that tells me a lot about jj Reddick. So what'd
you see where this goes? Now there's another young man.
I know that the Clippers will checked out. The Lakers
(52:10):
lost by what fifty eight points and all the starters sad.
And I know DeMarcus Cousins made some comments about Bronnie James,
but he went out and had a seventeen point night.
So where are we with Bronnie James as the season
is about seventy two hours away.
Speaker 7 (52:24):
Yeah, I mean he had a decent showing against the Warriors.
Seventeen point seven, seventeen shooting for rebounds, three steals, a block.
He played thirty five minutes. Now that's not what's going
to be normal here, but this was a way to
allow him to get heavy burn. He hasn't played a
lot of basketball, even at USC because of a limited
(52:45):
workload from his cardiac arrest. But he's going to spend
most of his time on the G League. I want
to be surprised that this week we will see history
being made with Lebron and Bronni being the first father
son duo in an NBA regular season game. But I
don't think it'll be for many minutes. I think it'll
be a moment in the season opener and it won't
(53:05):
last that long. And once early November hits, I believe
November eighth, he'll spend the rest of the season in
the G League where he can get more reps and
more development. Now, what is he going to look like
at the end of the season. Who knows? But I
think there is a pathway that he can be at
least a guy who's at the end of the bench,
you know, thirteen fifteenth at the guy on a roster
(53:26):
who has a good attitude, works are a great practice guy,
and can play some defense. Now, does that mean he's
going to be in a rotation on NBA team. He's
got a lot of work to do. But you know what,
you have those other attributes. Sometimes that's just have to battle.
Speaker 2 (53:42):
Last thing for me. Mark, And this is purely random,
but it's a legitimate question. You know, Mac McClung has
been a guy who is a viral sensation. He's got
these high flying dunks, back to back slam Dunk champion.
But you know, in spite of people going back and
forth on social media, he's only played four games in
the end, because we're not really sure if he's an
NBA player, But the Orlando Magic signed him to also
(54:05):
signed him to a two way contract. Does he have
a chance to get on the floor and get some
legitimate minutes this year in the NBA?
Speaker 7 (54:14):
We'll see. I mean again, the terms with the two
way contract are the same limitations that I outline that
he can play up to fifty games, and that's also
just being available, like he might get healthy scratches here.
Now when you're looking at the magic roster, they have
a lot of good players. You know, Powell ben Caro
(54:37):
is obviously one of their stars. That they have a
really good young core and nucleus with the Wagner players,
Jalen Suggs, Cole Anthony. You know they got previous call
it pulp in the offseason. So what I'm getting at
is this is a team that feels like they can
make a legitimate playoff push beyond the first round when
(54:58):
they challenge Cleveland seven games. So I would be surprised
that mac mcclong can get the serious minutes. But you
know what, maybe this is the entry point where at
least he's being a good practice player and sometimes that's
all you need to then get in the rotation for
the following season.
Speaker 2 (55:16):
You just got about a minute mark. But let's have
a little fun. We've done this before the NBA tips
off Tuesday. What might be a headline you're looking for
when you sign on with my show next Saturday night.
Speaker 7 (55:26):
At minute, It'll be about to James the James family.
Of course, I mean I'm sure, we'll see us through
being made and we'll dissect all of it, even if
they're on the floor for only a minute.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
Yeah, I think you're right. I can't argue with that.
All right, buddy, we will see you soon.
Speaker 7 (55:42):
Looking forward to my friend.
Speaker 2 (55:44):
Thanks Mark, Mark Medina Medina Magic. Mark Medina is our
Fox Sports Radio guru here, the NBA guru, and that's
why we have him on every Saturday night. We do
it fifty two weeks of the year because there's always
news and Mark's always got his finger on the pulse.
By the way, football fans, be sure to tune into
Fox Sports Radio every Sunday morning, beginning at ten am
(56:05):
Eastern seven am Pacific, for Countdown to Kickoff, presented by
Bet MGM, Brian No, Jeff Schwartz, and professional better Bill Krackenberger.
My man, so have you covered three hours before kickoff?
Every Sunday morning listening to Countdown to Kickoff presented by BETMGM.
Right here on Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.
Coming up, I want to put a quick capper on
college football. A lot of people have asked about it,
(56:26):
a lot of people have heard their story. It's become
going like the telephone game. What really happened in Austin today?
When furious Texans fans turned that game into a scene
from Escape from New York, Google it ask about Snake Pliskin.
He might have even been at the game, who knows.
I'm Bernie Froddle. We are comedy live from the Las
Vegas Fox Sports Radio tiret dot Com Studios. Don't go away,
(56:50):
you're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
We're back at the Bernie Fradle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
We are comedy alive from the tirerac dot Com studios
here in Las Vegas, and I want to put a
capper on an event that took place in Austin, Texas.
I'm not just talking about the football game between Texas
(57:11):
and Georgia. I'll tell you why I have a vested
interest when I see these things. November nineteenth marks the
twentieth anniversary of the Malice at the Palace. Yours truly
was there. I've probably said it a million times. You
don't like my buddy Steve Hartman has a heisman. Vote
I'm not sure who said it more his heismand vote
(57:32):
me at the Palace but it was an incredible event.
Most people don't tell the story right. They get a
lot of details wrong. But that's not the road I'm
going down. I've seen how spontaneous combustion could happen. And
so when the Texas fans start to launch bottles on
the field over a controversial call versus Georgia and then
the decision gets overturned, it causes you to look back
(57:54):
and say, well, what happened? What happened, And a lot
of people don't really know. It's my understanding because I
didn't see it live, but I didn't go back and
look at it. And you've got this home crowd, and
no question. These fine folks have been hooked up to
a blender since early in the morning. And when an
interception was wiped out by a pass interference call, Longhord
(58:20):
fans decided to engage in their own style of protest.
They threw hundreds hundreds of bottles on the field to
make known they didn't like the call and to express
their displeasure. It even required Steve Sarkesian to walk over
and urge them to stop. Conjured up memories of Sam
Witch in Cincinnati. When Cleveland they got pissed and started
(58:44):
throwing stuff on the fielding and grabbed the microphone. You're
in Cincinnati, not Cleveland, And if you really want to
do some research, NFL buffs in a game between Dallas
and Minnesota in nineteen seventy five, the Viking faithful weren't
happy about a call, and they threw a bottle that
hit a referee by the name of Armantersi in the head.
(59:05):
He laid on the field bleeding and it was an
ugly sight. But I digress. This was a protest that
was astonishing, not because of its size and scope and
the fact that it escalated into spontaneous combustion so quickly,
But I don't know, it seemed to do the trick
when the decision was overturned. I don't know if there
(59:26):
was truly a causal effect, but when Texans fans they
completely littered the north end zone with the bottles and
trash when the past interference penalty appeared to wipe out. Today,
Baron's interception return to the Georgia nine late in the quarter,
all hell broke loose, and Steve Kission was Initially he
(59:48):
was very irate. He was so pissed at the officials.
But then he headed to the far corner of the
field and he signaled to the student section to settle down.
And then it took a long time for the debris
to be picked up. And while that was happening, the
we are discussing to play, and all of a sudden,
in addition to debris being picked up, the flag was
picked up. Two plays later quinn Ewres there was a
(01:00:11):
seventeen yard touchdown pass to Jaden Blue, and all of
a sudden, it's, you know, twenty three to fifteen after
they had led twenty three nothing at halftime. So the
bottom line is Georgia went on to add another seven points.
They had a convincing two touchdown when you get all that.
But there's an old saying I have, and that is,
every time you think you've seen it all, you see
(01:00:34):
something new, and people care. That's why these things are
so popular. We do not have royalty in this country.
Our athletes and our entertainers they are, in fact our royalty.
And you know, movie producers, script writers, movie makers, they
(01:00:57):
paid millions of dollars for people to try to write
and to a story because there's gonna be a great movie,
but a bad ending ruins the movie. What's the bottom line?
Where am I going with this? That's the beauty of sports.
You can script everything in sports except the ending. And
on that note, let's go back to our guy, Dan
Beyer with the latest.
Speaker 4 (01:01:19):
Well Bernie perfect segue. We start in Major League Baseball
where you couldn't have scripted it any better for Juan
Soto and the New York Yankees and the one too.
Speaker 6 (01:01:30):
Swung on a high fly at a center back, goes
Thomas on the track, he's at the wall, and she's
gone a three run home run. The Yankee bench comes
on the field. Wow, what a Soto photo.
Speaker 4 (01:01:45):
Juan Soto at the top of the tenth ending on
the Yankees Radio network gave the Yankees at five to
two lead over the Guardians, and that ended up being
the final score for Game five of the America League
Championship Series, and the Yankees are heading to the World Series,
winning the ALCS for the first time since two thousand
and nine. In addition to Soto's three run shot in
(01:02:06):
the tenth, John Carlos Stanton hit a two run shot
in the sixth inning that put the Yankees on the board.
Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
Then now we'll wait the winner of the.
Speaker 4 (01:02:13):
Mets and Dodgers, who will play Game six of the
NLCS eight eight Eastern time tonight from Los Angeles. You'll
see it on Fox Sports one. Kirby Smart win number
one hundred in his career as fifth ranked Georgia takes
down number one Texas thirty to fifteen. Number eleven Tennessee
winner at home against number seven Alabama twenty four to seventeen.
(01:02:34):
Notre Dame rank twelfth in the country, top Georgia Tech
thirty one to thirteen, while Indiana remains perfect. Sixteenth ranked
Hoosiers ron to Nebraska fifty six to seven. Hoo's yours
seven to zero for the first time since nineteen sixty seven.
Army and Navy both remained unbeaten with victories on Saturday.
Twenty third ranked Army tops East Carolina forty five twenty
(01:02:55):
eight Well. Twenty fifth rank Navy blew out Charlotte fifty
one to seventeen. Colorado huge win in Arizona in Tucson
or against Arizona in Tucson thirty four to seven. Buffs
are five and two. Travis Hunter did not play in
the second half. Deon Sanders, he Buff's head coach saying
they kept him out to rest because of some wear
and tear with Travis Hunter. TCU went at Utah late
(01:03:16):
thirteen to seven. Week seven of the NFL continues in
London nine thirty Eastern time, when the Patriots are expected
to have Rmandre Stevenson. Titans are going to start me,
said Rudolph at quarterback against the Bills, as Will Levis
nurses a shoulder injury. Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker the
third added to the injury report because of an illness.
They've got the Falcons coming up in a few hours.
(01:03:37):
Commanders running back Brian Robinson expected to go against the
Panthers today, and the Vikings should have Aaron Jones in
that NFC North matchup against the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 2 (01:03:48):
Bernie, back to you and Dan, you're rep Artaje. I
believe Soto joins the likes of Chris Shambliss for Rezzie
Jackson Aaron Boone as iconic home runs. I believe they're
calling him now the chosen wand in New York not
making that up. I think someone coined that I wasn't
smart enough to come up with that. But Dan keep
it right here for a minute, because in a few
(01:04:08):
hours you'll be done in the Captain's chair in your
award winning show NFL Sunday here on Fox, and one
of the games I think that will draw massive attention
are the Chiefs visiting the forty nine Ers. You got
two very arrested teams. The Chiefs haven't played in fourteen days,
the Niners haven't played in ten, but as we all know,
(01:04:29):
the Chiefs have won and covered four straight versus nine Ers.
What are your thoughts and talk about your show Sunday.
Speaker 4 (01:04:34):
Yeah, it's pretty interesting, Bernie, because we have great matchups.
Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
In Week seven, We really do. In that early window.
Speaker 4 (01:04:41):
You've got the Packers and Texans, which should be good,
and mentioned Lions Vikings. People I think are looking forward
to seeing Devanta Adams now with the Jets and Steelers
on Sunday Night Football. But I'm sorry, it's tough to
top a Super Bowl rematch and that's what you got
with the Chiefs and forty nine Ers. It is interesting
you mentioned the rest for both teams, Chiefs coming off
of a Bible Niners played in that Thursday game against
(01:05:02):
Seattle and obviously haven't played since. But it's Andy Reid
coming off of a bye, right like that stat eight
to three with the Kansas City Chiefs only lost once
is the Eagles head coach coming out of a bye.
Speaker 2 (01:05:13):
So now what does the NFL.
Speaker 4 (01:05:15):
Do, Hey, forty nine Ers, let's see if you can
knock the Chiefs off with Andy Reid's great history of
coming out of a bye, a really, really tall task.
But aside for the Super Bowl rematch, Bernie, the reason
why I just think that this game is so intriguing
was I felt their Week six win against Seattle was
the first one where we said, Okay, the Niners kind
(01:05:37):
of look like maybe they've turned the corner. Guys are
back healthy, and this is this is the team that
we think they're going to be. And once Christian McCaffrey
comes back even better, that's going to be put to
the test right away in this game here. I don't
think that the Super Bowl rematch has any value in
terms of motivation if the forty nine Ers win doesn't
make up what happened in Las Vegas February. But I
(01:06:01):
do think for San Francisco it is important to show
that Week six mattered and that was the turning around
of the season. Because these first five weeks prior to that,
it just did not seem like the forty nine ers
of old.
Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
No, And I think they've been a bit of a
mash unit to coin a very overrated cliche. And course
the Chiefs have had their injuries as well, and when
you handicap you start to look at its strength versus weaknesses,
and it feels like the Niners are getting a lot
of their weapons back, where the Chiefs are still slightly depleted.
(01:06:38):
It feels you have a depending on the game, den
it feels like the Niners get them.
Speaker 4 (01:06:41):
I leaned towards that way as well, even with the
Indie Reid history there, that this would be the one
for San Francisco. But that's why I find it so interesting,
you know, so interesting, because I think that this is
an opportunity for San Francisco to say, all right, the
first part of the year wasn't the super Bowl hangover?
Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
And if they fall.
Speaker 4 (01:07:02):
Into the same issues that they'd dealt with over the
last couple of weeks, then I think that we start
to think that, all right, maybe this is a season
that isn't meant to be for San Francisco. I mean,
the offseason wasn't great with the Ayuk hold in and
Trent Williams smissing time with a million Williams wasn't a
big deal. We've seen veteran left tackles and all pro
(01:07:23):
left tackles miss training camp and sit out and get
paid and they're fine. I don't think that was a distraction.
But the Ayuk deal I think was a little bit more.
Then you have the McCaffrey stuff lingering into the season.
You talk about that being a mass unit. You also
have to wonder how much of extra football over these
last couple of years have maybe added on to some
of that. And I think that's why this week is
kind of important for San Francisco to show that they
(01:07:47):
continue that momentum from Week six and they don't take
a step forward and then take a step back the
week later.
Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
Fair enough, fair enough, tell the folks by the way, Dan,
where they can find your show on Sunday, because I
got to tell you it's all you need. You get
all the updates, you get scores as they happen, you
get the commentary. It's all there.
Speaker 4 (01:08:05):
Five o'clock Eastern time, two Pacific on Fox Sports Radio. Obviously,
you can always hear us on your local affiliate and
the iHeart app.
Speaker 2 (01:08:13):
Carry Rhodes is my tag team partner.
Speaker 4 (01:08:15):
You'll hear fast times with the Carry Roads or Kerry
breaks down what are the top plays of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:08:20):
We have a three game window. Usually there's four, sometimes there's.
Speaker 4 (01:08:24):
Five, but every once in a while we get a
three game window when you have a really really big game.
Speaker 2 (01:08:28):
So we've got Chiefs Niners in.
Speaker 4 (01:08:30):
Our window, plus the Commanders taking on the Carolina Panthers
and then the Raiders and Rams playing at Sofi Stadium.
So those will be the three games going on what
we are on and talk about all the early games
as well. So looking forward to it.
Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
My quick two cents on the Chiefs Niners, and you
can respond to some of it, any of it, or
all of it. In my research, yes, the Chiefs are
five and zero and the Niners are three and three,
but the advanced stats actually show the teams basically even now,
the Niners have a slight edge in something called EPA,
(01:09:06):
and EPA is a commonly used statistic and advanced statistic
in football. When you handicap, it stands for expected points added.
It kind of measures how well the team performs compared
to their expectation on a play by play basis, the
Niners farewell there, and a couple of things here. The
biggest difference as you look for strength versus I say
(01:09:27):
weakness and air quotes, the biggest difference is the Chiefs
pass defense, which is only ranked seventeenth, and it's probably
the weakest unit on either side of the ball for
either team. And by the way, unlike the Chiefs, who
are still missing their top wide out in Rashi writes,
Kyle Shanahan's going to have all those receiving weapons available
this week, a fully healthy Deebo, Samuel Brandon, Aiyuk and
(01:09:49):
George Kittle, and again measure that up against the Chiefs
seventeenth ranked passing defense. I know the Niners are home,
they're motivated, and they're due for a complete game like
they had Week one against the Jets. Any thoughts on
that two cents there? Dan?
Speaker 4 (01:10:05):
You know it's in looking at these two teams. The
Chiefs are undefeated. But to your point, if there's certain
metrics that say the Niners have an edge, it does
make sense. But I'm not as worried again about Kansas City,
and I think that San Francisco is in a spot
where Bernie, they're not long playing this season, they didn't
necessarily worry about weeks two and week three and how
(01:10:28):
things are going to play out. But now we're getting
to a spot off of a buy where they had
good momentum.
Speaker 2 (01:10:34):
Can you keep that?
Speaker 4 (01:10:34):
I don't think we're gonna see Christian McCaffrey until after
the forty nine Ers. By just my gut feeling, I
think they want to play completely safe and make sure
that he is fully ready to go for the stretch run.
Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
But at some point you have to start playing good football.
Speaker 4 (01:10:49):
Maybe they'll go on a run like Tampa Bay did
when Tom Brady ended up winning Super Bowl fifty five.
Maybe that's their path, But I do think that at
some point they have to show something consistent where the
Chiefs got those got those wins in the bank, sitting
there unbeaten right now, maybe you take a blemish. If
they were to lose on the road at San Francisco,
maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
Speaker 2 (01:11:09):
For I'm glad you made that distinction. I'll tell you
why because you also do a podcast with Mike carmon
The Flex Podcast, And where I'm going with that is
how many fantasy owners you think are nonplussed after drafting
Patrick Mahomes. I'll tell you what, they aren't happy.
Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
And for people that wanted Travis Kelce to be back
to who Travis Kelce was in the regular seat five
years ago, yeah, not necessarily going to happen.
Speaker 2 (01:11:38):
This is a team that had to sign Kareem Hunt.
Speaker 4 (01:11:41):
Off of the the off of waivers are out, you know,
as a free agent, and brought him in and he
ends up getting one hundred yards you know, the last
time out, and so they are they are depleted at
running back with Isaiah Pacheco out, you know, where she
Rice's injury is obviously a huge, huge gap that they're
going to have to figure out at some point.
Speaker 2 (01:12:00):
It's going to rear its uglyhead.
Speaker 4 (01:12:01):
But to your point, Patrick Mahomes right now not even
the top fifteen quarterback at times in fantasy football, which
is crazy to think. Probably a top one quarterback when
you look at all of them across the league right now,
But in terms of fantasy numbers, it's just not there
because the weapons aren't there. And I don't think the
Chiefs want to sit there and score thirty five points
a game. I don't think that's their style.
Speaker 2 (01:12:21):
Fair enough, that would be. And by the way, their
defense is underrated. I know their pass defense. You hear
the stats I just gave, but situationally they seem to
rhymes the occasion when they need to. By the way,
I believe that's the I want your flex podcasts. That correct.
Dam that is correct, Bernie, you guys do a great
job for that. By the way, shortly after my show,
our podcast and The Bernie Frawdles Show will be going up.
(01:12:42):
If you missed any of tonight's show, be sure to
check out the podcast. Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever
you get your podcasts, and be sure to also follow,
rate and review the podcast. Again, just search Fox Sports
Radio the Bernie Frawudle Show wherever you get your podcast,
and you'll see this show posted right after we get
off the air. I want to give one soda with flowers.
(01:13:04):
He sends the Yankees to the World Series for the
first time in fifteen years, and in doing so, he
may have just raised his off season price tag. I
bet you forgot about that. Let's tie that up into
a bowl before we head we dive headlong into all
NFL stuff. In the one o'clock hour. I'm Bernie Fraddle.
(01:13:25):
We are company line from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio,
Tireck dot Com Studios. Keep it locked right here. You're
listening to the Bernie Fradle Show at Fox Sports Radio.
We're back on the Bernie Fraddle Show. Before I dive
into the headline that sent the Yankees to the World
Series for the first time since Obama's first term, first
(01:13:45):
year of his first year, I'm gonna call a quick
audible and nobody accused me of out there in the
radio world of jinxiness, because I don't have that kind
of power. But for purposes of this conversation, let's assume
it's a Doter Yankees first time since eighty one, seventy seven,
seventy eight, eighty one, they were all epic series. Dan
(01:14:07):
should the Dodgers and Yankees lockhorns? Who would you expect
to prevail? Is Dan with us? Okay, Mark, let's start
with you. Do you have a thought on that? Who
would you expect to prevail the Dodgers or Yankees?
Speaker 8 (01:14:25):
When it comes to this Dodgers Yankees. I'm first off, disclaimer,
I'm happy that Judges finally got to the World Series.
I'm happy for him, happy for Boone that he finally
got to the World Series.
Speaker 5 (01:14:40):
I'm just happy for those guys.
Speaker 8 (01:14:41):
And then Carlos Stanton, I'm first, I'm just happy for
those guys to get to the big Game because they've
been trying for so hard and various things have tripped
them up, and you know, all of baseball has looked
at them like, you know, you guys are losers and
you so much money that you can't get there. So
(01:15:02):
I'm I'm happy that they're finally there. When it comes
to the Dodgers stuff, I'm really happy that Shoe Hay
has gotten there. And this is going to be a
classic idea for baseball fans that the Yankees Dodgers are there.
I'm pulling for the Yankee side because show hey, the
(01:15:25):
idea that you get there. That's great, Then show me
what you got to get over the edge. So let's
see if Sho can get over with the rest of
the Dodgers, and let's see if Judge and the rest
of the team can put a stamp on the rest
of the season and make it happen. Because now everybody's there.
You've gotten there, so great, wonderful Who cares. Now you've
(01:15:49):
got to do the rest of it. You got to
get across the line, you got to hit the ball,
you got to you got to win the game.
Speaker 2 (01:15:55):
And it all starts Friday night, Shae, what are your
thoughts Yankee dodgors who wins?
Speaker 9 (01:15:59):
I mean, I mean, I'm a little biased here. I'm
a Dodger fan, so obviously I'm gonna say Dodgers, But
I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:16:04):
That because you're rooting for him, because you think they'll
they'll win.
Speaker 5 (01:16:07):
I mean, of.
Speaker 9 (01:16:07):
Course I'm rooting for them, but I also think they'll
win against against the Yankees. I just think when it
comes to the at bats, obviously they have great firepower,
but when it just comes to the lower end of
the lineups, I think ours definitely beats them, especially when
it comes to postseason averages. Yes, pitching is definitely a question,
(01:16:31):
but I don't know. I don't think Gerrit Cole has
necessarily been who he has been during the season and
with the postseason. I think the Dodger pitchers have definitely
shown up, especially Walker, Buehler and Honeywell, who necessarily didn't
do great last or his last game or his last start,
but it didn't really matter. He just turned into a
(01:16:53):
staff saver there. But I think, yeah, I think it's
gonna be the Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (01:16:58):
But I'm just kind of one Dodger.
Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
We got one Yankee. Yeah, Dan, you break the tie, buddy,
Who who would you think would prevail?
Speaker 4 (01:17:06):
Oh, Bernie, I'll have to say, I'm gonna go with
the Yankees.
Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
Okay, yeah, okay, yeah, I'll break that tie. All right, buddy,
appreciate it. Guys, listen, if you saw the game tonight
and it's amazing one. It feels like WANs has been
around forever. I mean he turned down four and forty
million a couple of years ago, twenty five years old.
Clearly a superstar. It was one of those epic at
bats worked the pitcher Hunter Gaddis for seven pitches, squares
(01:17:33):
up the bat. Four hundred feet later, he stares it
down and it lands on the other side of the fence.
Seventy five percent of the crowd where Cleveland fans stun silence.
Twenty five percent were the ruthless Yankee chance the Yankees, Yes,
they do travel well, and that'd be worth the price
of admission alone, just to watch the Yankee fans and
Dodger fans go at it and Chavez ravine. If you're
(01:17:53):
the Cleveland Guardians, I still can't get used to that name.
But they've now lost four posty series to the Yankees,
dating back to twenty seventeen, and that was Aaron Judges
rookie season. That year, Cleveland was coming off its own
American League pennant one hundred and two win season, the
longest winning streak in American League history under its belt.
(01:18:14):
And then they have a two old series lead in
the Alds and they let it slip away and the
Yankees win three straight. Cleveland's not been the same since
the Yankees got their number. You know. Casey Stengel once
said the reason teams can't beat the Yankees now. He
said this in the fifties when the Yankees won the
World Series seven out of ten years. He said, teams
can't beat the Yankees. They get stuck staring at the pinstripes.
(01:18:38):
Back to Juan Soto, the hero of the night. He
was traded last offseason one year left on his contract.
He's proven to have transformed the power of the Yankees.
So how much is he going to get this year?
He might command the richest contract. I'm not predicting it,
but don't be surprised if he gets what O'tani got
and he can't pitch. I get that, but I'm telling
(01:18:58):
you right now, Hey, this is shaking out. People are
gonna get into a bidding war for Juan Soto. Coming up,
we dive heavily into the NFL, which kicks off in
a few hours. Keep it locked to the Bernie Fraddles
Show on Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, that's right, you heard
the man. The Bernie Fraddle Show keeps rolling right along.
My name is Bernie Frattle. We are coming you live
(01:19:19):
from the tyrat dot com studios here in a Las
Vegas Fox Sports Radio tyrac dot com and help you
get there in that matched selection, fast free shipping, free
road aser protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers tyraq
dot com the way tire buying should be. Well, we
(01:19:39):
are five hours and twenty nine minutes away from Week
seven in the NFL, resuming following Thursday night's game. But
it's a full slate. Only a couple teams have a
buy And what we like to do every Saturday night
heading into Sunday morning was just take a quick look
back before we look ahead forward, because oftentimes it can
(01:20:02):
add texture to the story. And you know, Week six
was bittersweet for many teams. I don't care whether he
won or loss. It was a bit of bizarre, a
bit of entertaining, a bit of misery, a bit of fun.
Take the Lions. The four and one Lions strolled into Dallas,
(01:20:23):
and let's just put it this way, they opened up
a can of whoop you know what on the Cowboys.
If this had been a fight, they would have stopped it.
They beat Dallas forty seven to nine, by far the
most dominating win of the week in the National Football League,
but it came with a massive caveat Aiden Hutchinson, the
(01:20:44):
Lions star pass rusher, who commands double teams, who makes
the defense go, who is constantly harassing quarterbacks. He hits
them more than Clubber Lang hit Rocky Balboa. He'll hurry you,
he'll scare you, he'll sack you, he'll hit you. He
left the field on a cart with a broken tibia.
It was a brutal, brutal injury. And I talked to
(01:21:06):
a friend of mine who was a doctor, who told me,
he said, you know, usually they don't do surgery on
these things. They let the swelling go down and that
usually takes a couple of days. Not this case. They
rush them into surgery that night, which leads me to
believe the severity of the break was much much more dramatic.
(01:21:26):
Do I know this for a fact, No, But oftentimes
when a break is that, you know, severe, there can
be bone fragments, they can get up into the tenants.
You got to get rid of those. You can't mess around.
You don't want a bacteria to cause an infection and
cause an infection lead the gang Green. You just saw
what happened Alex Smith. This is a serious business, so
I am hopeful. I've also heard, like Dan reported that
(01:21:49):
some people have mentioned that it's not all the realm
of possibility that you could see Aiden Hutchinson should the
Lions make it to the Super Bowl, whichould be played
on February ninth this year. But I'm also hearing other
reports from the local folks, and look, let's just see
what happens. I hope he comes back and resumes his career.
It's a weight bearing injury. He's a big guy, and
(01:22:11):
you know, come back when you're healthy. But he's a
big he's enough of a key cog with the Lions
that you might see a situation where between now and
November fifth, the trade deadline, where the Lions may be
shot for somebody. I do not believe for one minute
the Max Crosby rumors. Even though he's from Michigan played
at Eastern Michigan. He would probably command a couple first
(01:22:33):
round draft choices, to tell you the truth, but I
don't know that they get there. I've also heard Hassan
Reddick's name banning about I don't know a lot of
it's group think echo chamber that I'm not making these predictions.
And so for the folks that listen selectively, don't tweet
out that I'm predicting that, because I'm not. We're We're
just you know, throwing stuff against the wall here. How
about the Eagles. Is there a team in the National
(01:22:56):
Football League that has a higher misery factor than the
e the vibe surrounding that team. And by the way,
they're three and two, and it feels it feels at
he's heading into the season like they have the talent
on paper to get to a super Bowl, but they
can't get out of their own way, And and and
you know Philly, you know Deshaun Watson and the Browns
(01:23:21):
who seemed to be cursed. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni
at home in Philadelphia, walks over to the crowd the
game's final minutes and appears to talk trash to the fans.
Then he tried to walk it back after the game.
But you know, it made great fodder for sports talk
radio hosts, you know, in Philadelphia and around the country.
(01:23:41):
What are you doing, man? Just an odd, weird look.
By the way, remember when the Saints were two and zero,
but they're now two and four after they got thumped
fifty one to twenty seven by the Bucks, and now
they're doing five. Look, it was a very chaotic game
last two games. Spencer Rattler does show some promise. Even
(01:24:04):
the defense picked off Baker Mayfield three times last Sunday,
with the Bucks still managed to win by twenty four.
The Saints are a hot mess. They're just simply a
hot mess. Denver strolls into town Thursday and proves that
the Sunday loss to the Bucks was no fluke give
it up to Sean Payton. I don't know if they've
given up on Dennis Allen the players at but that
was not a good look. And I know they were
(01:24:25):
missing a lot of players and speaking of a bleique situation,
that's not sugarcoated. The Raiders have started slow and they're
already starting to fade. The result a blowout loss against
Pittsburgh of all teams, that was bad enough. Add to
that Devanty Adams, who's been sulking. You know you remember
this is a fact, folks, Well, I think it's a fact.
(01:24:47):
Three weeks ago when at the press conference Antonio Pierce
basically said we're going to make some business decisions. I
really truly believe in my heart he was talking about
Davantier Adams, not maybe not him solely, but among other players,
because I was at that game in the press box,
and if you watched, if you if you isoate on
(01:25:09):
DeVante Adams, you knew. And he wasn't getting the ball
because he didn't run his route, as simple as that.
And he's a guy who's put up a lot of
numbers over the years, the Raider era of DeVante Adams.
I don't know that he'll be remembered real fondly because
it didn't end well and he conducted himself in a
(01:25:30):
way that was kind of me first, and he suck
when he didn't get the ball. And we'll see what
happens in Green Bay. But as far as the Raiders, okay,
here you go. I mean they're two and four, they
had to Los Angeles. I expect the Rams. I expect
this to be a get right game for the Rams.
They really compete. Not a great team, but they compete.
Stafford competes. And then you know, Max Crosby says, I'm here,
(01:25:53):
I'm here to not here to rebuild, I'm here to win.
Well that's all great pros and poetry, but the Raiders
are going to win anything this year. So very odd
sketchy week for the Lions, the Eagles, the Saints, and
the Raiders. But there were teams that were risers and
fallers as we head into Week seven, and there were
(01:26:17):
a lot of real headlines and we're going to get
to that coming up. By the way, peeps, be sure
to tune into Fox Sports Radio every Sunday morning beginning
at ten am Eastern seven am Pacific for Countdown to Kickoff,
presented by Ben MGM, Brian No, Jeff Schwartz, and Professional
better Bill Krackenberger my band. They'll have you covered three
(01:26:40):
hours before kickoff every Sunday morning. Listen to countdown to
Kickoff right here, presented by betemgim on Fox Sports Radio
and the iHeart Radio app. Coming up, we talk about
some of the risers and fallers heading into week seven.
How about Kayleb Williams, just give him some flowers about
(01:27:02):
Derrick Henry some trickery and Texans? How about the Texans themselves?
Is their hope in New England? Well, I don't know,
but they've made a change. The NFC North, yep, who
had this on their dance card. The best four teams
by point differential are all in the NFC North. Now,
in the history of the NFL, there's never been a
(01:27:22):
situation where all four teams in a division made the playoffs.
Could it happen this year? I'm betting that it won't.
I'm guessing that it won't because of the math involved.
But it's part of the conversation. We're almost a Halloween.
We talk about the NFL riss and followers heading into
week seven. Before we dive into week seven, I'm Bernie Fraddle.
(01:27:43):
We are coming to line from Las Vegas. Fox Sports
Radio Tirack dot Com studios. Don't go away. You're listening
to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
back on the Bernie Fratter Show, Fox Sports Radio come
to life from the tarach dot Com studios. Here in
Las Vegas. We are just forty three minutes away from
the dance Sensation sweep of the nation. You know you
love it, Cantley without it? What kind of brand new
(01:28:04):
fool of you? Fresh edition? Followed by what my name?
All right? Not everything is the Doldrums in the NFL?
How about Caleb Williams, number one overall pick, had a
nice little trip across the pond, led his team to
a thirty five to sixteen win, a seventy nine percent
completion percentage, four touchdowns, and an eighty nine QBRE all
(01:28:26):
career highs. Caleb now is two passing touchdowns from tying
the Bears single season rookie record, and all of a sudden,
the Chicago Bears they're an item. We'll see if it
can continue. Meanwhile, the Ravens are also foreign to you.
Put Derrick Henry with the league's best rushing quarterback and
you're getting an average now two hundred and five rushing
(01:28:47):
yards per game. And that's not all, folks. Lamar Jackson's
back to back games with three hundred and twenty plus
yards passing prove that when you are not one dimensional,
were going to move the ball. They beat the Red
Hawk Commanders thirty to twenty three. Jackson is now twenty
two to one as a starting quarterback against all NFC opponents.
(01:29:10):
Go figure, he's got a chance to improve that record
against another NFC foe in Tampa Bay. By the way,
little trickery in Texas. I'm sure the Cowboys didn't appreciate this,
but you know, one of the things that the Lions
did was maintain their offensive coordinator retain I should say
Ben Johnson, who was getting multiple invitations for NFL interviews.
(01:29:33):
And I know Lions fans probably quietly snickered about this
and cracked up and the Cowboys fans hated it. But
after Sam Laporte of the Lions tight end last week
scored a fifty two yard touchdown off a flea flicker,
the Lions, even though they led by twenty eight, almost
pulled off a hooking ladder to their offensive lineman, their
(01:29:55):
best offensive lineman, the three hundred and thirty five pounds.
Pinney Sewell, Yep, yeah, they were winning by four touchdowns.
But Ben Johnson, they were just having a little fun
in Detroit in spite of the injury. I'm sure Dallas
didn't appreciate it. The other team in Texas, Texas, the
Texans five and one CJ. Stroud, Oh, not another day
at the office, threw for three touchdowns last week. That's
(01:30:18):
an offense. They already had a good defense, really starting
to command attention. And oh, by the way, let's not
forget their defensive end. A big draft choice a couple
of years ago. Will Anderson. He dominated the Patriots, who
has a very struggling line, and they'll keep they could.
They're they're kicking off here in about five hours and
(01:30:40):
ten minutes and London against Jacksonville. Jacksonville is about a
six point favorite. But three sacks, three pressures, a deflective
pass that led to an interception that was off from
the courtesy Will Anderson. Houston wins easily by three touchdowns,
forty one to twenty one, and in doing so, they
spoiled Houston, spoiled Drake May's first ever start. However, dirout
(01:31:00):
Mayo the head coach in New England, believed what he
saw out of Drake may last week was encouraging. He
threw for two forty three, three touchdowns then Jacoby Brossett
had had in five games. Jacoby Brissett had only thrown
for two touchdowns in five games. Jared Mayo threw for
three in his debut, also led the team in rushing
(01:31:21):
at this point, that's like being the best hockey player
in Argentina and no big deal. But he also got
sacked four times, had two interceptions. That's what happens with rookies.
They're up and down. Now. People think this is a
get right game a few hours from now in London,
but I think it might be a git right game
for the Jaguars because if it's not, I'm not sure
if Doug Peterson will be invited on the plane. But
(01:31:42):
I digress. I talked about the NFC North a minute ago.
The best four NFL teams at least by point differential,
all reside in the NFC North, where again Caleb Williams
is joining the party. The Lions are rolling. The Packers
dominated the Cardinals last week thirty four thirteen. Now, the
Vikings had a bye last week. But they're undefeated, a
(01:32:05):
top of the best division in football, and it begs
the question, could all four teams make the playoffs? Now,
I've got conflicting data on this. Somebody has told me
that thirty years ago they did. We'll have to have
my crack staff look into that. I was in Detroit
in ninety four. I was not part of the Lions
(01:32:27):
pre and postgame show. That didn't happen until ninety eight,
but I was doing a show in ann Arbord. I'm
down the line. I don't remember all four teams, and
I don't think he was called the NFC North back then.
It was something different. Injuries, unfortunately again, Aiden Hutchinson, Marvin Harrison, Junior,
Chris Olave, Patrick's Hutin, Jerome Ford, Dallas Goddard, Darius Slay,
(01:32:52):
many many others, even Jim Harbaugh. Even Jim Harbaugh, all
had to leave the game at some point. By the
way Harbaugh's offense and by the way Harball did leave
the field, but he did come back. He apparently he
was dealing with an irregular heartbeat. Go figure. I thought
he eats steak and drinks milk. What gives? But look
(01:33:15):
the Chargers offense last Saturday looked really good. Three hundred
and fifty yards. They beat Denver twenty three to sixteen.
And that's a pretty stout Denver defense. Seriously, but Harball
is he joked around that he's two and old with rhythmias,
not to be confused with the rhythmics a team from
the eighties. Harball sat after the game, by the way,
(01:33:37):
that you know that was that was his one liner,
I'm two and old with arrhythmias. We'll see what happens, heart,
you know, maybe I will tell you if the chargerud
make the playoffs, their fans will skip a beat after that.
Brandon Staley era the Buccaneers four and two in the
second half after by the way, Baker Mayfield got intercepted
(01:33:57):
three times in the second quarter alone last week. The
Saints actually led that game last Sunday twenty seven to
twenty four. But this is what happens when things aren't
going well. Todd Bowles started to put all kinds of
pressure on Spencer Rattler four SAPs, two interceptions, and the
Bucks they put up half a hundred they beat They
beat New Orleans fifty one to twenty seven. New Orleans
(01:34:18):
to give up eighty eight points or checked that eighty
four points in four days. That was the up and comers.
The good news, who's trending down? Who is not so happy? Well,
that's a hell of a way to celebrate Jerry Jones'
eighty second birthday watching the Lions completely decimate his team
forty seven to nine. The good news is, I'll make
(01:34:41):
a bold prediction. There's no way the Cowboys will lose
this weekend. There's zero chance. Well, they're on a buy,
but there are three and three, but they better They're
going to have rope burns from their rosary, hoping that
Micah Parsons and Doron Bland get back sooner rather than later.
They're still missing the mark, Lawrence Brandon Cooks, Marshawn Neeland
(01:35:02):
still's panic time. And I don't know what Mike Zimmer's
doing there. With all due respect, they might be better
off of a former Yankees manager, Don Zimmer, who Howard
Cosell wants famously said his face looked like a block punt.
There's your metaphor the Jaguars one to five, who saw
this coming. When Doug Peterson first took over, he seemed
(01:35:24):
to write the ship from the debacle that urban Meyer
had left behind. Let's face it, Doug Peterson seek continues
to get hotter and hotter. After another sloppy defeat last week,
they lose to the Bears and their safety starting safety
for the Jags. Andre Cisco described the feeling as how
should I say this quote? A lot of quit. That's
(01:35:46):
exactly what shot Con does not want to hear. If
you're paying a coach what Doug Peterson is, when they're
not playing hard for the coach, that's a sure sign
you can start to pack your bags. And by the way,
in Muths the same way that you know. Woody Johnson
of the Jets has said, this is our best team ever.
Shot Con last August said quote about his Jaguars, this
(01:36:10):
is the best team assembled in franchise history. Sounds funny,
but not haha funny. I hope they've enjoyed their week
in London, because that's where they've been all week, lying
in wait for the New England Patriots. And I gotta
tell you that should be what the doctor ordered against
a rookie quarterback. But nothing is for sure with his
(01:36:32):
Jaguars team. But I honestly would be surprised if you
don't get max effort out of the Jags. He're and
it kicks off in five hours and four minutes. What's
up with Will Levis's career? And I say that career
in air quotes ninety five total passing yards and a
key fourth quarter pick again to cost the Titans, who
are now one and four twenty seventeen loss to the Colts.
(01:36:54):
Levis has the physical tools of a franchise quarterback. I
don't thinknybody would argue with that's about it, only that
Sean Watson has been worse this season, and that's saying
a lot. By the way, Will Levis's number one receiver,
Calvin Ridley, finished with eight targets, zero catches, and this quote,
and I can't say down the air otherwise you'll never
(01:37:15):
see me again. This issue is getting effing crazy. How
was your day? Tennessee the Lions four and one despite
the blow out winning Dallas. As I said earlier, their
star defensive end Aiden Hutchinson started Sunday leading the NFL
in sacks six and a half, posting the highest pressure
(01:37:36):
rate throughout the season in this first half in six
years of any team of any player but his day
in and on a cart, he broke his tibia, and
they don't have a lot of depth behind Aiden Hutchinson.
I am curious to see how much that affects the Lions,
because it could. Don't make no mistake. Usually right after
(01:37:56):
an injury of that nature, the following week, there's a
real rally around the campfire. I expect max effort out
of the Lions later on this afternoon against Minnesota. That
is absolutely a coin flip game. Two very good teams.
Vikings got a spectacular defense under Brian Flores and they
got a terrific offense under Sam Darnold. Kevin O'Connell presiding
(01:38:20):
that is a very, very very good football team and
so are the Lions. Now, what's interesting, there's a guy
whose job security is solid even though the team is
going nowhere, and that's the Cleveland Browns. But I believe
Kevin Stefanski's job security. The beat reporter Zach Jackson in
(01:38:42):
Cleveland was asked about if the Brians will stick check
that if Stefanski was asked by Zach Jackson if the
Browns will stick with Shaan Watson one word yes, yes,
they do not have a plan B they do not
have an escape plan, do not pass, go, do not
collector hunter. They owned ninety two million dollars. They're gonna
(01:39:03):
pay it. Come hell or high water. Heard me and
talking with Jason Herscher and earlier the only analogia and
give you It's like buying a super expensive meal at
a six star restaurant and you get the meal and
the steak has marks from where the jockey was hitting it,
and the potatoes are cold and everything's brutal, but you're
gonna hit it because you paid for it, even if
it makes you sick. And that's exactly what appears to
be happening with Deshaun Watson, who is a completely shot fighter.
(01:39:28):
And by the way, I'm not giving Deshaun Watson a
hall pass because he quote miss too much time. He
was good in twenty twenty, miss twenty twenty one suspension,
came back, missed ten games in twenty twenty two, came
back in twenty twenty three, and you know, he looked
like the proverbial drunk cross in the icy street trying
to play quarterback. No, I'm not giving him a pass
(01:39:50):
just because he missed time. It's fortune cookie wisdom. He's
a young man, younger than Michael Vick was. I've always
liked Michael Vick a lot. Met him once one of
the Thanksgiving games covering Detroit. He's really a very interesting
young man, and I know he paid his debt to society.
He was gone three years. We're in an orange jumpsuit.
He came back, played six years in the NFL. It
(01:40:10):
was an All Pro multiple times. He was laid off
three years. He wasn't a shot fighter. He came back
and won and even got his team to the playoffs.
So I wouldn't be so quick to give Deshaun Watson
that excuse. Finally, regarding quarterbacks, I've always liked Gardner Minshew too,
And this is the I'm gonna I'm going to categorize
(01:40:31):
this under the phraseology I hate it when I'm right.
Because Week one, the Raiders gave a pretty good effort
in Los Angeles, but they turned the ball over three
times and the Chargers won the game. The score was
not indicative of how close the game was. I said, look,
and I like Gardner Minshew. Then he goes into Baltimore
and they steal one from the Ravens, and that's when
I said, look, he's a good dude, but he's a
(01:40:51):
four game quarterback right on schedule. They Benurem after four games,
and they bring in Aiden O'Connell, who replaced Gardner Minshew,
and his goal was just limit mistakes. Limit mistakes. Because
Garder minshew had had six turnovers, well, I guess you
could say they were limited. Aiden o'conn only had three.
(01:41:14):
Pittsburgh won the game thirty two to thirteen in spite
of incredibly conservative play calling. But Pittsburgh brought in here
does not resemble anything close to what looked like an
NFL offense to me. Coming up, there's a particular coach
in college football. Last year he had all kinds of love.
(01:41:35):
Frankly didn't really deserve it. This year they're having all
kinds of success. Where's the love or Bertie Flock and
Donnie Hathaway. Let's bring on our own man who can
sing a tune of his own? That would be the
great Dan Byer with the latest they're singing in New York.
Speaker 4 (01:41:51):
After the Yankees win the America League Championships Series in
five games over the Guardians, winning in Cleveland on Saturday night,
five two and ten innings, Your hero Juan Soto. This
is how it sounded when Soto stepped to the plate
in the tenth inning in a two to two ball
game on the Yankees Radio network, and the one two.
Speaker 6 (01:42:12):
Swung on a high fly at a center back Os
Thomas on the track. He's at the wall and she's
gone a three run home run. The Yankee bench comes
on the field. Wow, what a Soto photo.
Speaker 2 (01:42:27):
Lon Soto the hero is.
Speaker 4 (01:42:29):
The Yankees advance to the World Series for the first
time since two thousand and nine, forty first appearance in
team history. They now await the winner of the National
League Championship Series. Mets and Dodgers plates a night in
Los Angeles eight to eight Eastern Time. Dodgers up three
to two in the series. You'll see it on Fox
Sports one. Week seven of the NFL season does kickoff
(01:42:52):
in London nine thirty Eastern time. It too the Patriots
and Jaguars. Romadre Stevenson expected to go Ford, New England
despite a foot injury.
Speaker 2 (01:43:00):
More injury news in Week.
Speaker 4 (01:43:02):
Seven, Commanders running back Brian Robinson should play against the Panthers,
while Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker the third was added
to the injury report because of an illness. Titans will
start Mason Rudolph at quarterback against the Bills as Will
Levis nurses that shoulder injury. The NFL network is reporting
lines defensive end Aiden Hutchinson has a chance to return
from his broken leg if the Lions make the Super Bowl.
(01:43:25):
While in college football on Saturday, number one goes down.
Texas falls to Georgia fifth Rake Bulldogs get the win
in Austin thirty to fifteen. Now, the SEC did release
a statement following the game after a pass interference call
was reversed and then prior to the reversal, Texas fans
threw water bottles on the field. The statement from the
(01:43:47):
SEC said quote, the game officials gathered to discuss the play,
which was permitted to ensure the proper penalty is enforced,
at which time the calling official reported that he aired
in a fall, a foul should not have been called
for defensive pass interference. Consequently, Texas was awarded the ball
at the Texas nine yard line, and that was about
the overturning of the penalty, as for all of the
(01:44:09):
things that were thrown on the field, the SEC said, quote,
the disruption of the game due to debris being thrown
onto the field will be reviewed by the Conference Office
related to SEC sportsmanship policies and procedures. Welcome to the SEC.
Texas number eleven at Tennessee top number seven, Alabama in
SEC action twenty four to seventeen.
Speaker 2 (01:44:31):
Couple of other notables.
Speaker 4 (01:44:32):
Indiana seven to zero for the first time since nineteen
sixty seven, following their route of Nebraska fifty six to seven. Well,
Colorado took care of Arizona in Tucson thirty four to seven.
Speaker 2 (01:44:43):
Buffs are five and two on the year. Back to you,
all right, Dan, let's keep it here over so quickly.
I want to go on the room. Barack Obama was
in Arizona and on a Friday he made the statement
he was at the game, I think Arizona and Colorado.
He said, don't bet against Arizona in tomorrow. He goes,
I know Colorado's got a couple of good players, but
(01:45:04):
I also know you guys have beaten him twice in
a row. Dion couldn't resist. He fired back at the president,
and then Colorado went out and took care of business
in a big way. And believe it or not, at
least as of now, The Buffs still aren't ranked, but
they're now fulfilling the expectations, and they're one bull win
from or checked out. They're one win from bull eligibility. Dan,
(01:45:26):
I've got a question to ponder last year, and I'm
not talking about why do you ponder passing a famous
line from Paul out I gets anyway revolving breakfae. Yeah,
I couldn't resist. So last year Colorado was all the rage.
You couldn't get a ticket. Every celebrity in the world
(01:45:49):
was there, and they got all sorts of love and
frankly didn't deserve it. This year, Colorado is really getting
it done. Where's the love ROBERTA. Flack and Donnie Hathaway? Dan,
what what do you think of this conundrum here?
Speaker 4 (01:46:02):
It's funny, and I actually do want to say follow
up on something that you said earlier, because they are
a win away from being bull eligible and that is
amazingly awesome. The conundrum and all of that is, do
you think any of those players that we care about,
Shadora Sanders and Travis Hunter are going to be suiting
up in a Bowl game come late December or early
(01:46:23):
January wherever?
Speaker 2 (01:46:24):
It is absolutely no chance.
Speaker 4 (01:46:26):
So While it is a great story that Colorado is
winning and winning in year two, maybe winning games that
they wouldn't have won last year, they are winning this
year five and two. That one win away bull eligible
will be great, but we're not going to see any
of those star players in a bowl that Aside Bernie,
this is a team that I think will be ranked
(01:46:47):
come Monday morning, and I actually have if you look
at how things shape up in the Big Twelve, they've
got an opportunity to add not only one more win
to make them Bowl eligible, but possibility to get to
maybe even eight or nine wins because the conference isn't
what we thought it was going to be at the
start of the season.
Speaker 2 (01:47:05):
And I would just say this to why maybe the
hype isn't there.
Speaker 4 (01:47:10):
This just always seems to happen, and that maybe the
loss against Nebraska earlier this year kind of took the
air out of the sales. I think it's a little
different with the conference of the Big Twelve being what
it is. Still a great story, but yeah, I think
the newness and the hot topic has worn off a
bit with Colorado.
Speaker 2 (01:47:29):
You bring up a great point and speaking of getting
on the field, Travis Hunter didn't even play the second
half on Saturday. And that's sort of an inconvenient truth
when you suit up played both sides of the ball
one hundred and thirty four plays every week, a lot
of them in that September heat. It's only a matter
of time before it takes this toll. And you're right,
they'll end up going to a secondary bowl game like
the Benut Bowl or something. Because BYU and Iowa State
(01:47:52):
they're both four to zero. Kansas State kind of put
Colorado on their place last week, and he got Texas
Tech ahead of them. So right now, Colorado and Cincinnati
they both tied for fourth in the Big Twelve with
four and one or five and one.
Speaker 4 (01:48:04):
Yeah, and you go have games against They got games
against Utah and Oklahoma State later in the season that
at the start of the year, I think you could
look at those and say, oh, they're probably not going
to win those games, and now you look at them
and say, you know what, they got just as good
a chance considering how those two teams are playing Utah
obviously with quarterback issues, but those now could be victories
for Colorado as opposed.
Speaker 2 (01:48:24):
To absolutely And you know, Dan, it's not just that
Colorado strolled into Tucson and beat a pretty good Arizona team.
They're not as good as they were last year, but
the way they did it, dominating both sides of the ball,
I believe thirty one to seven was the final something
along those lines. And of course I'm seventy four to seven. Good.
Good wishes and prayers to our dear friend Arnie Spaniard.
(01:48:47):
Perhaps a wellness check is in order because I didn't think.
I didn't think Arizona would lose that game today. I
didn't bet the game, but if I'm being honest, so
Dan a couple of really good points about the Bowl
game and what's happening here. I think people are gunshy.
The mini is all of a sudden, you throw them
in the parade, though they might stick it up again.
You're right, thirty four to seven, You're exactly right. Mark
(01:49:08):
your thoughts. Why isn't Dion getting in love this year
when it's deserved, when last year he got to love
and it wasn't.
Speaker 8 (01:49:13):
I don't think he gets the headlines because the story's
going to read Colorado wins.
Speaker 5 (01:49:21):
That won't fill up the page.
Speaker 8 (01:49:23):
Because if Colorado would lose, then they could make a
story about Dion reacting to some reporter or being upset
and called everybody. You know, you guys hate me. There's
not enough of this of a story to write about
Colorado winning. It's only when he loses the big headlines
come out and people can fill up the page with
the story.
Speaker 2 (01:49:45):
That says it pretty well. Uh shait, you got the
last word on.
Speaker 9 (01:49:48):
This first off, beating any irrelevant Wildcats team. Come on, now,
I'm kidding, that's my that's my son double talking right there.
Speaker 2 (01:49:56):
But they might miss Jed Fitsh.
Speaker 9 (01:50:00):
No, I think it's yeah. I mean, it's been a year.
It's not a story anymore for the wins. I mean,
I kind of agree with Mark here to where I mean,
a loss is definitely a bigger headline at least now
compared to last year than it was. But I mean,
I mean, what they're doing is great, and I definitely
do think that they're better than last year.
Speaker 2 (01:50:19):
Well you know, yahsiting when Mark used the word, hey,
I want to go back around there win one more
time because Mark invoked the word hate and Dion and
that's not wrong. I think there's a lot of vitriol
for whatever reason. It's just how we are in this country.
We elevate people to the highest plateau to tear them down.
We do it in sports, we do it in entertainment,
we certainly do it in politics. And the bottom line
is the opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference.
(01:50:43):
So people have to be emotionally invested enough to hate.
And that's why Dion it's almost a backhanded compliment that
people hate him. And the reason I'm invoking is I
want to go back around there one more time. Travis
Hunter may be the best player in the country. I
don't know if he's going to win the Heisman. I
don't even if he's gonna get in out of New York.
He's probably the best play in the country. There's a
big push for Aston Jenty out of Boise State, who'll
(01:51:06):
be here in Las Vegas next Friday night. And there's
a lot of other good players. But Travis Hunter went
on the went on TV the other day and basically said,
they won't vote for me because they hate Dion. Whoa Dan?
Is there mariat to that statement?
Speaker 4 (01:51:20):
I don't think so. There are a lot of people
who have Heisman votes. In fact, way too many people
have Heisman votes. There are people who have Heisman votes
that you'd be shocked to vote for the Heisman Trophy.
But if you're voting because you don't like the head coach,
maybe you shouldn't be voting that, especially when it has
nothing to do with the head coach and has everything
(01:51:41):
to do with with Travis Hunter. Dense burned Bridges himself.
I mean he has We've seen him not talked to
certain news outlets, not happy with the coverage that they
have gotten or received or I don't want to say
haven't gotten, because everybody was talking about them, and he
didn't like some things that were being and I think
that that also rubbed some people the wrong way. It's
(01:52:04):
difficult to carry that lightning like they did last year.
They really did if they beat Nebraska in that game
earlier this year in Lincoln. I still don't think it's
as electric as it was last year when they came
in and we were wondering what was going to happen
and then.
Speaker 2 (01:52:20):
They upset TCU.
Speaker 4 (01:52:22):
But a good job for them to be able to
recalibrate and even if they aren't getting all of this hype,
still be able to play the way that they have
and make themselves be the story.
Speaker 2 (01:52:34):
They're winning being the story. So Mark, based on Travis
Hunter's comments, he's of the belief he looked right in
the camera and said it that they won't vote for
me to win the Heisman because they hate Dion. Does
that comment have merit in your view? Or is he
just shooting bebes at the moon?
Speaker 8 (01:52:53):
He's just shooting bebes and words at the moon. He
has to make a comment because somebody ask him a question.
He's got to say something, and so just to be
able to throw up a reason why this or that
didn't happen, he's got to say something fair.
Speaker 2 (01:53:09):
I agree with both of you guys. It was cringey
to me, cringey and to Dan's point, a lot of
guys both for the Heisman. And that's your motivation, then
you better check yourself because look, it's it's a prestigious award.
There's nothing quite like it the New York Athletic Club.
It's you're part of this lifetime club. And I think
Travis Hunter was off base by saying that, I'm gonna
(01:53:29):
say that, Shay, you got the last word.
Speaker 9 (01:53:32):
I mean, yeah, I think he has a better chance
of getting drafted number one overall than he does of
winning the Heisman.
Speaker 5 (01:53:37):
It's a quarterback award.
Speaker 9 (01:53:39):
I mean, we've been saying this for how many years now,
But I do think he has one of the better
chances that any defensive or I mean, I guess defensive
and offensive.
Speaker 5 (01:53:48):
Yeah, yeah, exact.
Speaker 2 (01:53:49):
I covered the Wolverines in ninety seven when Charles Woodson
won it, and he played both ways, not like Travis Hunter.
But anyway, continue on.
Speaker 9 (01:53:56):
Yeah, so I think he's probably the closest person that
has a chance to get it. That's non quarterback that
we've had in a very very long time. But again,
I do think he has a better chance of being
dropped to the number one overall than winning the Heisman.
Speaker 2 (01:54:10):
All right, good stuff, guys. Coming up, We go back
to the NFL, by the way, just ever so quickly,
in case you were wondering to mid season wide receiver
trades payoff rarely. In the last twenty four years, there
have actually been thirty four in season wide receiver trades made,
and the vast, vast, vast vast majority did not work
(01:54:34):
out unless you're Chris Chambers. He came to the Chargers
in seven, helped him get to THEFC championship, Braydlan Edwards
joined Mark Sanchez, he gave him a deep threat. Back
in nine, Dean Branch came back, got reunited with Tom
Brady and they ended up losing in the divisional round
of the Jets. But after that, there are so many names,
from Roy Williams to Kelvin Benjamin to de Marius Thomas
(01:54:58):
to Golden Tate to Ahmed Sinew And I know Dan
knows all these names because they're all have they all
have fantasy implications. But that's my short way of saying,
I don't think this, make it, prove me wrong, don't
tell me, show me. And I don't have a dog
in the fight. So if it works, great, it might
have a new, bigger story. But there's a bad vibe
(01:55:18):
in New York, and I don't know that DeVante Adams
joining the team is gonna change it. We'll see. I'm
gonna steal a line from John Madden. Just keep never
mind the horse is blind, just keep loading the cart.
So we'll see what happens. And we're going to get
to see it right away at eight twenty Eastern times
Sunday night when the Jets play the Steelers. And if
(01:55:39):
the Jets fall to two and five, if I don't
want to create a problem for the Jets before they
happen and try to solve them. But look, Pittsburgh's Pittsburgh
is gonna bring their game. And I'm not a Russell
Wilson basher, so it don't be surprised if Pittsburgh takes
care of business. We shall see and we shall see
(01:56:00):
the effect that Breylen Edwards has. Fifteen minutes away from
brand new fool what my name? But I want to
get some NFL quick hitters, some headline tup material you
want to think about heading into Sunday slate, which is
just about upon us now. I'm Bernie fraderwork company line
from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, Tarrek dot Com Studios.
Don't go away. You're listening to the Bernie Fradles Show
(01:56:20):
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, back on the Bernie
Frattle Show. We're just eight minutes away from the Dan
Sensation sweep in the nation. What kind of brand new
fool you followed by what my name? Couple of headline
notes for some games coming up Sunday, Lions at Minnesota.
You know the Vikings Blitz forty two percent of the time.
That's the third highest in the NFL. Lions have covered
(01:56:41):
seven straight versus Minnesota, but the Vikings have won six
to the last ten. Baltimore Tampa Bay to top four offenses,
both averaging more than twenty nine points a game. And oh,
by the way, here's an interesting thing for you. When
Lamar Jackson is a favorite of three points or more,
he's only seven in nineteen against the spread. Houston visits
(01:57:03):
Green Bay Packers laying two and a half. Texan's only
two and three against the spread. C J. Stroud is
fourteen and seven straight up as a starter, but only
ten and eleven against the spread. Houston's good. Now you
gotta pay a Houston tax. I want nothing to do
with that game. The game that I'm gonna give my
I think my best bet of the day, I'm going
(01:57:24):
to say for the end of the show, it does
involve the Jets at Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh catching one and a
half at home. Jets have only covered once all season.
That was back Week two against New England. About an
hour from now, I'll give you my best bet, and
I will tell you why with some pretty good data.
Philly visits to New York Giants Giants catching three Jalen
(01:57:45):
Hurts five and two straight up all time versus the Giants.
The Seahawks Dan Seahawks visit Atlanta. Atlanta is a three
point favorite. Both teams kind of heading and opposite directions,
but neither has been money lately. Seattle won it five
against the number, Atlanta only two and two against the
spread and old by the way, Seattle's lost three in
(01:58:06):
a row, Atlanta has won a three in a row. Finally,
the London Wimbley Special coming up here in about four
and a half hours. Jacksonville in five and a half
against New England fans in London, by the way, looking
forward to that. I'm sure favorites in London all time
nineteen and sixteen against the spread. Should be a get
(01:58:27):
right game for the Jacksonville Jags, but nothing is sure
with those guys. Keep it locked. Coming up. What kind
of brand fool you? Brand new fool? You followed by
what my name? You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Well, that stretch you heard the
man Bernie Fraddle Show keeps rolling right along. My name
is Bernie Fraddle. We are comedy in life. From the
(01:58:47):
tarat dot com studios here in Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio.
Tarat dot com will help you get there an unmatched selection,
fast free shipping, free roadazard protection, and over ten thousand
recommend it installers tyreq dot com. The way tire buying
should be. Well, we have come to that juncture in
(01:59:08):
the week, and that juncture in the show two am Pacific,
five am Eastern. You see, because every week we observe
Eogiberra once said you can observe a lot by watching.
That's exactly what we do on the Burning Fottle Show.
Because around this great country of ours from c oily S,
and certainly around the globe with the planet, well, people
(01:59:31):
do things. They engage in odd goofy behaviors. Some are well,
some relatively innocuous and silly and mischievous, and others a
little bit more serious. Others are very serious. Breaking the
law can find you landing in jail. But any way
you slice it, any way you characterize it, any way
you describe it, well, these behaviors they always always leave
(01:59:56):
us scratching our heads and asking ourselves, what kind of
a brand new fool of you? What kind of brand
new fool are you that's right, Well, Shay, you'll be
glad to hear that. We finally, after a three week hiatus,
(02:00:17):
go back to Florida.
Speaker 3 (02:00:20):
Woo.
Speaker 2 (02:00:23):
I'd love to hear that park, to be specific, And
this one is a doozy. And when you hear what
happened to poor mister seventy six year old Dan Powell, well,
I guess you could say he was having a crappy day.
So we begin with a couple of folks walking their
dog in a park, just like people do. And they
(02:00:47):
walk their dogs and they say hello, and they say goodbye,
and they make small talk. And that's what people do.
And until young Kaylee R. Twenty eight happened to be
turning her Sunday morning recently into a felony charge after
a confrontation at the mobile home park near where she
(02:01:08):
and the seventy six year old victim live in separate residences.
So what happened, Well, usually mister R says hello to Kaylee,
but on this particular day, he walked right past her,
didn't give her the time of day. Oh my goodness, gracious, well,
(02:01:28):
Kaylee wasn't having it. No. So, according to the police report,
cops say this is the direct quote. Kaylee took an
unsecured bag of dog feces and pushed it right into
mister PA's face, leaving feces smeared all over his face
(02:01:50):
and the bag on the ground. Yes, sir, so, Kaylee
is now face seeing a felony charge after allegedly shoving
this bag of dog poop into the face of this
elderly neighbor who happened to also by the way. You know,
(02:02:10):
she's charged with battery and the crime is considered more
serious because in Florida, if it's a victim of sixty
five years or older, it can become a felony. And course,
you know, Kaylee said, I don't get it. He would
always speak with me while I walk my dog. Yeah, well,
you know we've all been there. They won't speak to you.
Sly shove poop in the guy's face. Well, the cops
(02:02:30):
swung into action, and the dog waste bag certainly match
those in the defendant's possession, and she ultimately admitted to
the battery. Well, the good news is Kaylee was released
from jail Monday, posting a twenty five hundred dollars bond
and actually pleaded not guilty. To a third degree felony
of shoving dog poop and his seventy six year old's
(02:02:52):
face because he wouldn't say hi to wear it while
they were walking their dogs, to which I say, Kaylee
from Panella's Pot Florida, what kind of brand new fool?
Are you all right? Shait top that one?
Speaker 9 (02:03:08):
I don't know if I could talk that one, just
because it's in our favorite state of Florida, before I
actually move on to our my story of the day
or the week. I actually saw a story this week
that said Florida has been named the second best state
to live in in the US, which is pretty funny.
Speaker 5 (02:03:25):
I thought i'd bring that up just quick. Guys.
Speaker 2 (02:03:27):
We do tax is good Florida. You know, good weather
exactly right, Yeah, beaches.
Speaker 5 (02:03:32):
And I do. We do trash on Florida a lot.
Speaker 9 (02:03:34):
So I did want to bring up some of the
good things about Florida, so.
Speaker 2 (02:03:39):
You know, just to set the record straight that not
everybody listens to our shore every week and shame on them.
But what has happened is since we started this whole
ordeal a couple three years ago, it's amazing how many
of these stories have originated. For Florida fair.
Speaker 9 (02:03:51):
I mean, that's kind of what one hundred percent, it's
the Florida man, It's it's a common thing, and it's
turned into almost a meme.
Speaker 5 (02:03:57):
So Florida actually boasts one of the low.
Speaker 9 (02:04:00):
Unemployment rates in the country at just two point nine percent,
plus the sixth most job opportunities per capita. It has
the seventh lowest tax rates, in six highest median household
income growth. It offers abundance of least you activities, and
I don't really have to go into all those. We
know what Florida offers. And it's a pretty safe state.
It has the ninth most law enforcement employees per capita,
(02:04:22):
the thirteenth lowest violent crime rate, and the fifteenth lowest
property crime rate.
Speaker 5 (02:04:27):
So Florida, we crash on.
Speaker 9 (02:04:29):
We trash on you a lot, but hey, you're not
too bad after all.
Speaker 2 (02:04:34):
Oh that's spot on, and we're not really trashed on
the state of Florida. We're merely stating these oddball stories
in a state that probably has twenty five million people.
And you just have a situation that, for whatever reason,
a lot of these odd ball stories originate from Florida.
Maybe this sun spot's got to them. I don't know.
Speaker 9 (02:04:53):
It's odd, man, I don't know what it is by
any but well, we'll probably never find out.
Speaker 5 (02:04:57):
But I do love the stories. They'll come out of Florida.
Speaker 9 (02:04:59):
But story takes us to Maine today Winthrop Mam to
be exact, where a man is accused of breaking into
a Monmouth store and stealing over one thousand in lottery
scratch tickets.
Speaker 5 (02:05:14):
Oh boy, police, Oh boy, just wait for the kicker. Bernie.
Speaker 9 (02:05:18):
Police say they responded to a report of a burglary
at Phil's Variety on Route two of two on Tuesday.
Corny to police is suspect later identified as thirty two
year old Zachary Lau of Winthrop, broke into the store
by shattering the front glass door. Police say lo stole
over one thousand on lottery scratch tickets, cash, cigarettes, and
(02:05:39):
other small items. Was arrested and charged with burglary, aggravated assault,
criminal mischieft, and theft by organized taking or transfer. Literally
just an hour after the robbery. You want to know
something funny, Bernie, authorities scan the stolen tickets to check
how much he would have stolen if he did get
(02:06:01):
away with it.
Speaker 5 (02:06:02):
Brandie, guess how much. He guess how much he's.
Speaker 2 (02:06:04):
Stole basically twenty six bucks.
Speaker 5 (02:06:06):
Forty dollars, which is.
Speaker 2 (02:06:08):
Still wow, a lot, you know, forty.
Speaker 9 (02:06:10):
Dollars out of one thousand dollars worth of lottery tickets.
Come on, that is not think about that. That is
a that's that's a that's a crazy loss.
Speaker 2 (02:06:23):
Yeah, well you better we call it brand new fool.
Speaker 5 (02:06:25):
Go ahead, you're better betting on the Browns Weekly.
Speaker 2 (02:06:28):
Oh boy, we're cooking now.
Speaker 9 (02:06:30):
But yeah, the the Winthrope man named Zachary Lao. That
leads me to say, what kind of fool are you?
Speaker 2 (02:06:37):
You know what's crazy? You said a thousand lottery tickets?
You know, the population of Winthrop, Maine is six twenty one.
That's like a good crowd at Oakland College scene for
the A's all right.
Speaker 5 (02:06:49):
I mean, how did you think he wouldn't get caught?
Speaker 2 (02:06:51):
You know, Shaye, what we gotta do? We gotta we
gotta talk to Scott and see if we just do
a remote someday from Winthrop. Yeah, I understand there's all
kinds of stuff you can bot m ski paddle fish,
steal lottery tickets. The library, I'm reading this off their website.
The library, by the way, is second to none in Winthrop.
So we will go hang out the library, maybe run
(02:07:12):
a book, or not run a book, check out a book.
Speaker 5 (02:07:15):
Right where do you think that's on the list of
list of cities or state?
Speaker 2 (02:07:20):
Gotta be right up near the top, according Vanas and
you Wilson the talent manager, I got to die you seriously,
I'm serious, winthropay Man, we're here for you. Man. By
the way, we just missed a damnit. The annual win
Through Fire Department golf tournament is today. He's off here
and teas off here in five hours. I don't know
if we can make it right.
Speaker 5 (02:07:40):
Good luck to anyone.
Speaker 2 (02:07:41):
You know what's really cool? Company? Can you talk about
some upcoming events? Wow? Check it out Tuesday, Shay the
cemetery committee meeting. What is a cemetery committee meeting? Could
someone please help me? Could we find that out? Do
they serve refreshments?
Speaker 1 (02:08:02):
People?
Speaker 5 (02:08:05):
It's gonna be a huge event then.
Speaker 2 (02:08:07):
Oh, it's real hoot? All right, great stuff. Another rousing
edition of what kind of brand new fool of You,
which now allows us to open the door and segue
into our second favorite bit, which we lovingly refer to
as what my name? Alrighty? In twenty twenty three, I
(02:08:29):
was the NFL passing leader with four thousand, six hundred
and twenty four passing yards. Mark Ramsay, what my name?
Speaker 5 (02:08:40):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (02:08:42):
Rex Grossman?
Speaker 2 (02:08:43):
I love it, Not Rex Grossman. In twenty twenty three,
I led the NFL in passing yards with four thousand,
six hundred and twenty four passing yards. Shaye, what my name? Um?
Speaker 9 (02:08:56):
In twenty twenty three, I'm gonna say.
Speaker 5 (02:09:00):
Hmmm, I'll give you guys both a hit.
Speaker 2 (02:09:03):
Who can get it? He played in the state of Florida,
Tua Tua, taking the right out of the gate. All right,
you hockey fans, Maybe Eddie Garcia can call in and
get this one. This week, I scored a goalie goal,
a goalie goal for the Minnesota Wild, the first goalie
(02:09:25):
goal ever in Minnesota Wild franchise history. Mark Ramsey, what
my name?
Speaker 8 (02:09:33):
It couldn't have been relatives of Esposito.
Speaker 2 (02:09:36):
Junior, Tony es Pasida Junior. No, not him. Uh. This
week I scored a goalie goal. That means I'm a
goalie who scored a goal for the Minnesota Wild, the
first ever goalie goal in franchise history. Shaye what my name?
Speaker 9 (02:09:53):
Yeah, I saw he was on the Minnesota Wild I
know it's his last name starts with the you got yes,
that's all.
Speaker 2 (02:10:02):
I got pretty close, pretty close. It's actually Malik Gustasia.
And I gotta tell you, I watched the replay about
five times. I mean, of course it's an empty natter,
but he had to lift the puck up. It was spectacular,
put some real rister into it, flew over about five defenders,
and it's right, you know, center cup. Right. Other than that, Okay,
(02:10:23):
moving along, how about a little w NBA what what
my name? So? Caitlin Clark became the first rookie to
make first team All w n B A since me,
what my name?
Speaker 5 (02:10:40):
Mark Ramsey, Asia Wilson.
Speaker 2 (02:10:44):
That's a good guess. It's actually not Asia Wilson, though,
Caitlin Clark is the first rookie to make the All
w NBA Rookie First Team Since I did it? Sean Ognger,
what my name?
Speaker 9 (02:10:58):
Oh god, Brianna Stewart.
Speaker 2 (02:11:03):
It's actually Kandace Parker. But those are both good guesses.
Kandas Parker was the last rookie to make the All
NBA First Team as a rookie. Department of Redumbascy Department.
All right, we're all watching the Major League Baseball playoffs
and we're seeing bullpen games right and left, and you
see guys go into the fourth inning. Oh yeah, good start, man,
(02:11:26):
that's a good wow, good job. Not like it used
to be. You know, guys, there have only been eight
complete games in the Major League Baseball postseason since twenty ten,
and I pitched three of them. Mark Ramsey, what my name?
Speaker 5 (02:11:42):
Since?
Speaker 8 (02:11:42):
Win again?
Speaker 2 (02:11:43):
Twenty ten? Eight complete games in the Major League Baseball
postseason since twenty ten, and I pitched three of them.
Speaker 5 (02:11:52):
Uh, Steve Carlton.
Speaker 2 (02:11:55):
Not Steve Carlton. I'd have to double check. Pretty sure
he retired by twenty ten, but good effort on the name.
Only eight complete games have been pitched in the Major
League Baseball postseason since twenty ten, and I pitched three
of them. See mognguard, what my name?
Speaker 5 (02:12:11):
It's my guy.
Speaker 2 (02:12:12):
It's Kershaw, not Kershaw? What nope?
Speaker 5 (02:12:16):
Is it? Not Kershaw?
Speaker 2 (02:12:17):
Not Kershaw. It's Madison Bumgarner. Madison Bumgarner.
Speaker 5 (02:12:22):
How many has Kershaw?
Speaker 2 (02:12:24):
I don't know, but there's only been a total of
eight and he got three of them. You can look
it up. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I don't
think so. All right, moving along, Oh boy, how about
those New Orleans Saints currently two and five. Well, they
did win a Super Bowl once the only time the
New Orleans Saints won a Super Bowl. I was the
(02:12:45):
head coach, Mark Ramsey with my name.
Speaker 8 (02:12:51):
Oh, he's coaching for the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 2 (02:12:54):
Now you're you're zoning in on it.
Speaker 8 (02:12:58):
I don't know his name, but he was the.
Speaker 2 (02:13:00):
Team effort or some some for the effort. Good show?
You want to jump in?
Speaker 5 (02:13:03):
No, I think Mark can get it, though, I think
all right.
Speaker 2 (02:13:05):
I'll give you a clue. Mark, He's got the same
name of a famous running back who played for the
Bears back in the seventies and eighties. Still guess last name.
First name was Walter Peyton. Right, what's what's his first name?
Speaker 5 (02:13:20):
Richard? I don't know. Sean Vaden and Sean baided. I'll
save him, I'll save him.
Speaker 2 (02:13:24):
We finally got there, We got there, Sean Payton. All right,
that's that's a team effort. Where's the sounder for the
winning for the winner? All right, it's the team effort.
We are a team here, alrighty and now I believe
one of you guys mentioned this earlier in the show
might even been Dan, so this should be one you
(02:13:44):
guys get easily. In the history of the National Football League,
I have the best record of any head coach following
a bye week. Mark Ramsey with my name?
Speaker 8 (02:13:56):
I don't know that name?
Speaker 2 (02:13:57):
Okay, in the history of NFL. I have the best
record of any head coach following a bye week. Seam Ogangar,
what my name?
Speaker 5 (02:14:06):
Mister Reid himself.
Speaker 2 (02:14:07):
Andy Reid, Andy Reid, the friendly Walrus. Let's go back
to baseball. This just happened, okay. I'm the youngest Dodger
Los Angeles Dodger in team history, the youngest Los Angeles
Dodger in team history to hit multiple home runs in
the postseason. I'm the youngest, uh, Mark Ramsey.
Speaker 5 (02:14:31):
What my name, Mookie Bets.
Speaker 2 (02:14:34):
Mookie Betts, not Mookie Bets. I am the youngest Dodger
Los Angeles Dodger in team history hitting multiple home runs
in the post season. Seam Ogangar, what my name?
Speaker 5 (02:14:47):
He was really dude too, it was paz.
Speaker 2 (02:14:50):
Andy piz Hey. Extra points for pronouncing the name correctly,
because when you look at it on TV. It looks
like Andy Pages, right.
Speaker 5 (02:14:58):
No, it's not, but it's Paz. You got to think
about it.
Speaker 2 (02:15:03):
That's right, man, that's right, all right. Last one, you
guys have seen the Indiana Hoosiers coached by Kurt Signetti,
kick butt take names. They're undefeated. Man, they're looking good
doing it all right. But despite all of that hooplah, well,
I'm still the last Indiana player to win the Big
(02:15:25):
Ten Player of the Year. Mark Ramsey with my name,
it's got a very classic distinctive name.
Speaker 8 (02:15:33):
Oh, I'll tink another wrong guy.
Speaker 2 (02:15:35):
I don't go ahead say what you're gonna say, just.
Speaker 5 (02:15:38):
A goofy name.
Speaker 8 (02:15:39):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:15:41):
I am the last Indiana player to win the Big
Ten Player of the Year. Seane Ogngar what my name?
No idea. I'll give you guys a clue now. I
covered Super Bowl in Detroit. It was between the Steelers
(02:16:03):
and the Seahawks. It was like a Steeler's own game.
The Steelers won. This guy threw a touchdown pass on
a trick play. Think about it, Can you guys get it?
It was one of the famous plays Ben Roethlisberger pitched
out to him. He started to roll right the next thing,
you know, he chucked the ball down the field about
fifty yards for a touchdown.
Speaker 9 (02:16:24):
Oh gosh, going once, oh gosh.
Speaker 2 (02:16:28):
Going twice. You guys are gonna kick yourself. Antwine Randall
l what And he was a quarterback in Indiana. I
remember he came in. I took my son to a
game there once. And it's like, ninety is a coach now, right?
He is? He is? All right, guys, that's gonna do
(02:16:49):
it for another roundsing edition of what My Name? And
of course brand newfool and uh yeah, we'll be right
back doing this next Saturday evening, heading into Sunday morning,
October twenty sixth into twenty seventh, two way in Pacific,
five am Eastern. Coming up, a highly respected coach in
(02:17:12):
college basketball tearfully resigned. It was an absolute stunner, and
he had He's a soft spoken guy and a well
mannered guy, but frankly he had some biting comments about
the NCAA. We'll talk about it coming up. I'm Bernie Frider.
We're coming to line from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio,
Tarrack dot Com studios. Don't go away. You're listening to
(02:17:34):
the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right
back on the Bernie Fraddle Show. Fox Sports Radio come
to life from the Tarrack dot Com studios here in
Las Vegas. College basketball is also upon us and the
ACC had their media days just this past week. Virginia
coach Tony Bennett was there. He participated, spoke about preparing
(02:17:57):
for another season as a Virginia Calves, ready to take
on another daunting task in the ACC. And then all
of a sudden on Thursday, Thursday afternoon, the Virginia Athletic
Department made a very abrupt announcement, a very shocking announcement
that Tony Bennett had decided to retire and he just
signed a long extension. He held a press conference Friday morning.
(02:18:20):
Tony Bennett did. He was explaining through his tears that
quote the current landscape of college sports has driven him
out of coaching. He said, quote I am no longer
the best coach to lead this program in this current environment.
The game college athletics, and this is his statement to
the NCAA is not in a healthy spot. He said,
(02:18:43):
there's still a way of this environment, but it's complicated,
and he says, I'm not equipped to do this and Frankly,
it's humbling now for those who can't wait to invoke
the get off my lawn, take a hike. Tony Bennett
has never once said that players don't deserve to be paid.
He says, I think it's right players, student athletes, they
(02:19:05):
deserve to receive revenue. Don't mistake me. But he continued,
he said, there's got to be some click to bargaining.
There's got to be restriction on the salary pool the
teams can spend. There has to be transfer regulation restrictions.
There's got to be some limits some organizations, some guardrail.
There's got to be limits on agent involvement in players.
There's good agents and there's bad agents, and you get
(02:19:27):
what happens between the two. And also the transfer portal calendar,
which basketball opens up in the middle of March madness,
that doesn't help either and benefit. Bennett specifically said he
hopes the NCAA changes the calendar. Look, this isn't the
first coach to decide I don't want to be in
(02:19:47):
this environment. If you don't think you know Jay Wright.
That had something to do with Villanova's Jay Wright leaving
coach k at Duke Nick Saban announced his retirement earlier
this year. Roy Williams, the basketball coach at North Carolina,
did so right before the NL began. But Tony Bennett's
only fifty five. He's the youngest player of that group,
(02:20:08):
and he was the most candid about college sports landscape
being the reason he cut his career short. So the
bottom line is college sports has lost another great one
and it's a shame. And again, make no mistake, don't
get it twisted. Tony Bennett has never said that players
don't deserve to be paid. It's just the lack of
structure and sanity is the reason why he no longer
(02:20:32):
wants to swim in those waters. I caught up. We've
got the world of soccer. First, we go back to
dan Byer with Lacet Bernie.
Speaker 4 (02:20:41):
Great to be with you, and we have got tons
of college football to get to, plus a busy day
coming up in the NFL. But we start on the
diamond where the Yankees and Guardians playing a crazy one
again and this time.
Speaker 2 (02:20:54):
It's Juan Soto to the rescue.
Speaker 6 (02:20:56):
And the one too swung on a high center back
goes Thomas on the track. He's at the wall and
she's gone a three run home run. The Yankee bench
comes on the field. Wow, what a Soto photo.
Speaker 4 (02:21:14):
John Sterling on the Yankees Radio Network with the call
of Jon Soto's three run shot in the tenth inning
in Game five of the America League Championship Series, essentially
sending the Yankees to the Fall Classic. They top the
Guardians five to two, win the ALCS four games to one,
and the Yankees are back in the World Series for
the first time since two thousand and nine, their forty
(02:21:34):
first appearance as a franchise. John Carlos Stanton continues his
hot hitting this postseason, hitting his fifth home run of
the playoffs, a two run shot in the sixth inning,
but the Yankees back to the World Series. Mets and
Dodgers played Game six of the NLCS Sunday night in
Los Angeles, eight to eight Eastern timas the first pitch
you'll see it on Fox Sports One. Dodgers up three
(02:21:55):
to two in the series you mentioned the crazy day
In college football, Kirby Smart win number one in his
career as fifth rank Georgia wins at number one Texas
thirty to fifteen. Also in the SEC number eleven, Tennessee
took out seventh thrankd Alabama twenty four to seventeen. Elsewhere
in the top ten, Number six Miami a winner against
Louisville fifty two to forty five. Well aighth rank Dallas
(02:22:17):
you took care of Arkansas thirty four to ten. Number
nine Iowa State a winner against UCF barely thirty eight
thirty five, but the Cyclones remain unbeaten. And number ten
Clemson took out Virginia forty eight thirty one, Notre Dame
ring twelfth in the country, Top Georgia Tech in Atlanta
thirty one to thirteen, and how about Indiana seven to
zero for the first time since nineteen sixty seven. As
the sixteenthrank Hoosiers rod to Nebraska fifty six to seven.
(02:22:41):
TCU won late at Utah thirteen to seven, while UNLV
got a victory at Oregon State thirty three to twenty five.
Speaker 2 (02:22:47):
Rebels improved to six and one.
Speaker 4 (02:22:49):
Week seven of the NFL season starts in London at
nine thirty Eastern times Sunday morning, as the Patriots and
Jaguars will do battle. Titans will start Mason Rudolphi quarterback
against the Bills. Will Lovis nurses shoulder injury Commander's running
back Brian Robinson expected to go against the Panthers. Seahawks
running back Kenneth Walker the third added to the injury
report because of an illness and that big Vikings Lions
(02:23:11):
show down Aaron Jones expected to go four Minnesota, and
there's a report from the NFL Network saying that Lion's
defense have vent. Aiden Hutchinson has a chance, just a chance,
Bernie to return from his broken leg at the Lions
make the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (02:23:25):
Just thanks you so much, Dan, and chance back to you.
Appreciate that, Dan, And of course I know the Lions
fans will have rope burns from their rosary hoping that
that chance becomes a reality. A. Should the Lions make
it to the super Bowl and b should Hayden Hutchinson
be healthy enough to replace our return? We shall see.
(02:23:48):
We covered all on the Bernie Friar show. Up next
Chrispophett's World.
Speaker 1 (02:23:52):
Of Soccer, The Greatest Goals, The Thrilling finishes the international drama.
It's all here in this report from the World of Soccer.
Speaker 10 (02:24:14):
A bit of a quirky story to kick off this
week in soccer, Bernie with a Tails from the Annals
of what the hell were they thinking? So National Women's
Soccer League NWSL, the premier soccer league in the United
States for women's soccer and probably trying to be one
of the top ones around the globe, announce a new
team that is slated to start playing in Boston, one
(02:24:36):
of the great sports cities of the United States and
one that the NWSL did not have there. And this
team's name was slated to be Boss Nation bost Nation
bos Nation, Bos of course being the abbreviation for Boston Nation,
being Nation, the whole thing apparently being an anagram of Bostonian,
(02:24:58):
which is clever, I guess, but the name is seemed
to really miss the mark with a lot of fans
and kind of came off feeling very weak, among other things. Well,
bost Nation then later on, only a day after its announcement
or so, did put out an apology. However, that apology
was not for the name for bost Nation. Rather, it
(02:25:19):
was for probably the most unintendedly funny and weird marketing
campaigns I have seen in a while. This video campaign,
which was spread over social media and part of a website,
was called too Many Balls, and it highlighted how many
teams there were in Boston, talking about how Boston loves
(02:25:42):
its balls and cold balls, new balls, goat balls, talking
about Tom Brady, who then cuts in in the video
basically making it and then saying that maybe Boston has
too many balls, and you very quickly get the assumption
as like, oh, right, you're talking about me. You're talking
about men and men's sports, and this is supposed to be,
(02:26:04):
as the video cuts to a montage of young women
playing soccer, that it is a chance for a women's
team to step up here. However, this, for about eighteen thirteen,
fifty hundred different reasons, was a terrible idea and garnered
quite a bit of blowback from the North American soccer scene,
(02:26:25):
especially those of NWSL, A statement that was seen partially
as transphobic, mostly just missing the mark altogether in what
it was trying to say about any kind of gender
issues as far as sports up in Boston, and generally
just being cringey and very antagonistic to a city with
(02:26:46):
a lot of winning history to it. So the Boss Nation,
which already sounds really hard to roll off the tongue,
quickly put out a statement saying apologize that they we
missed the mark, which are words that I I repeatedly
see all the times from people who just don't understand
when they miss the mark, but just keep they just
keep seeving the mist of mark, saying that we fully
(02:27:08):
acknowledge the content of the campaign to not reflect the
safe welcome environment we starve to great for all, we
apologize the LGPTQ plus community, so on, so forth. Hither
thither there so not the not the launch Boston Nation
was hoping for. Still no word about their incredibly cringey name,
which I still am not a huge fan of, but
(02:27:29):
we move. If there was ever a sign that Mauricio
Pochettino was going to have a tough time coming in
and just trying to get this stuff rolling with United States,
or how much work there needs to be to turn
this culture around, look no further than the friendly that
happened in Guadalajara between United States and Mexico, where we
finally had a dos aussero, the famous two nil score
(02:27:49):
that seems to happen in the United States Mexico games.
The problem was the dos a sero was going the
other way than it usually does. Yes, Mexico too, United
States nil as the United States gets completely shut down
here and questions already starting to raise. This is one
of the first real big games of Poshatino has been
(02:28:11):
able to manage with this team. They were away from
home without a bunch of key figures Wester McKenny and
Christian Pulisic among others, so safe to say not the
results that the United States wanted to see. Yes, they
were out without some of their stars, but it is
a full roster that still needs to be out there,
and Mexico is not the Mexico of old, even though
(02:28:33):
they are trying to get things back on the right track.
It is a grim, grim reminder of the work that
still needs to be done. For about two years with
the World Cup staring down the United States in this barrel,
another team internationally welcoming a new manager is our old
friends in England. We kind of passed over this in
(02:28:54):
the world of soccer that Garett Southgate was given the
boot after another unsuccessful Euro Championship campaign. England quite frankly
had kind of had enough with everything and it was
time to move on. After a bit of a time
with a caretaker, the English Lions have settled on Thomas Tushell,
formerly the manager of Chelsea, who joins a very long
(02:29:19):
list of managers who were kicked out on their ass
by Chelsea earlier earlier in twenty twenty two. He's been
spending last year or so with Bayern Munich, but represents
something of as an oddity for England, being a German
born manager for England, one of the very proud countries
(02:29:39):
of football. Tushell has gone around and he is currently
raiding the coaching staff at Chelsea right now as we
speak to try to get things squared away and hopefully
to put England back on the track, because they have
had some of the most talent in the world right now,
far more than the United States, let's be extremely clear
(02:30:00):
about that, but ultimately have failed repeatedly to get over
the hump. Now Southgates dismissal is a bit of a
curiosity at the end of the day, because I don't
know if you could get even much better than where
he was. You were runners up and two straight European Championships,
fourth place in the World Cup in twenty eighteen twenty
(02:30:21):
twenty two World Cup, you were in the quarter final.
I don't know. It's so hard to get much better
than that. But unfortunately for England they've hit the curse
of We feel like we hit a ceiling with this guy.
Let me tell you, Bernie, no matter the sport, I've
seen and heard those words before and nothing good comes
of it. We wish touchle the best, but for England's expectations,
(02:30:43):
even he may not be able to match them. That's
going to do it for the world of soccer this week, Bernie.
Next time, I want to talk about the changing reputation
of leagues across Europe, including one league that we kind
of dip our toes into now and then. But my
but according to some survey out there might honestly be
the second most competitive after the Premier League, as there
(02:31:05):
is a bit of a shake up to how we
perceive soccer right now for the time being. This weekend
we have the Premier League back in action. We've got
all the European leagues back in action after a bit
of an international break.
Speaker 1 (02:31:18):
Plenty to watch, plenty to get to.
Speaker 5 (02:31:20):
We'll see you next time.
Speaker 2 (02:31:21):
In the world of soccer, there's that word expectations. The
show has now come full circle. You even got expectations
and football when it's spelled futbl they get a little
goofy over there, We'll get a little goofy over here
as well. Speaking of expectations, well, Sunday night, the Jets
(02:31:44):
will play their first game with the venerable DeVante Adams.
All right, I've analyzed this game six weeks from Tuesday.
Leads me to one conclusion. I'm not betting this game.
This is what I'm just gonna stay off of because
there's too many unknowns, too many variables. But there's some
pretty damning data that causes you to look in one direction.
(02:32:06):
And I know some of the fine folks out there
who listen selectively will say you said bet this. No,
I didn't. But I'm gonna tell you what the data
says regarding Pittsburgh and the New York Jets on Sunday night.
You're gonna want to hear it. I'm Bernie Fraddle. We're
coming alive from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio tyrack
dot com studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to the
(02:32:26):
Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, we
are wrapping it up on the Bernie Fraddle Show. We've
been coming alive from the Tyraq dot com studios. Here
in Las Vegas. Before go any further, I want to
thank my broadcast team. I'm back in Los Angeles. They've
been with me since eleven pm Pacific on Saturday night.
(02:32:47):
It would be Dan Byer on the updates, and then
of course Shay and Mark turning all the dials, keeping
us glued together, participating in the discussions this evening, of
which there were many, including but not limited to, what
kind of brand new fool of you? And what my name?
(02:33:08):
And of course, as we eagerly await NFL Sunday Week
seven version kicking off here in London in about three
hours and forty one minutes, and we'll see if Jacksonville
can get off the schneid against New England. They've been
over there a week in jolly O'lengland, signing themselves and
(02:33:29):
no doubt pondering their navel. If they lose this game,
I wonder if Dug Peterson to be allowed back on
the plane, but that's a story for a different day.
There are some epic games Sunday. I think the Niners
Chiefs will be terrific. I think the Vikings and Lions
will be fantastic. But I gotta tell you I really
think this one game we'll have more hate watching than
(02:33:52):
every other game combined. And of course I'm talking about
the New York Jets as they visit Pittsburgh. Looks like
Russell Wilson is going to start Jets laying a point
and a half on the road, the two and four
Jets who canill afford to go two and five? And
guess what more? Jet fuel filled up the tank, so
to speak. What a crappy analogy that was? What is it?
(02:34:16):
It's called Davante Adams. Yep, just never mind the horses blind,
keep loading the cart. DeVante Adams sulked his way out
of Las Vegas and on his way to the New
York Jets, joining Aaron Rodgers because whatever Aaron Watts Aaron gets. Yep,
you didn't want Mike Williams. You're not going to see
much of him anymore. Pretty clear he didn't really want
(02:34:37):
Robert Sala. You won't see any of him anymore, but
you will see DeVante Adams joining Allen Lazard and Garrett
Wilson in company. How how convenient the team that can't
block Kim, that can't run the ball, team that can't
really protect Aaron Rodgers. He's been hit more than a
Rocky Balboa this year. So you bring in Davonte Adams,
(02:34:57):
don't you find it a little odd that Adams has
been on Las Vegas quote unable to playlist for three weeks.
Yet the minute he was traded, he announced, boom, his
knee is good to go this Sunday. Yep, here's a
guy who never seems to be entirely happy. By the way,
is Hammy looked pretty good to me doing all those
(02:35:19):
taco bell commercials. But I digress. He started. He signed
a five year contract with one hundred and forty million
back in twenty twenty two, and by the math, you know,
I went to the sixth grade for three years, averages
twenty eight million dollars annually. So by our math, he
earned about one point six million dollars per game, actually
(02:35:42):
one point six five million dollars per game, if you
want to be exact, meaning he essentially milk the Raiders
that have just under five million dollars over the past
three weeks. When he sat out with quote a hamstring injury. Now, look,
he may well have been hurt. Hell, I don't know,
I'm out a doctor. I'm not the earning bush. But
I will say this, he sure seemed to heal fast
(02:36:04):
when he got traded to the Jets, and now he's
in line to take his talents to New York, where
they'll head of the Steel City Sunday night, knowing that
the Jets are zero to five against the spread and
the first of back to back away games, as well
as seven and thirteen straight up in eight and twelve
against the spread when coming off a loss, which they are,
(02:36:24):
by the way, Mike Tomlin, you can bash Russell Wilson
all you want, but believe it or not, in his career,
he's thirty eight and twenty two against the spread as
an underdog is an NFL career, including eleven and six
against the spread, and his last seventeen is an underdog
four to zero against the number at home and the clincher.
(02:36:45):
Who knew you can do with this what you will?
In games after facing the Bills, the Jets are now
oer thirteen and one against the spread. I don't see
how you can back the Jets now. They may make
liars out, but they're getting none of my money. But
either is Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh isn't getting any of my money either,
But I can only look to one way, the Jets
(02:37:07):
to me or a drunk cross like a nicey street.
They're a mess, they're a mess, and they've got talent,
all kinds of talent. But as gene Keaty famously said,
we're not good enough to win on talent alone. So
it should be a good hate watching game for a
lot of folks. I'm not one of them, but I
will be watching and I won't be betting it. So
for those of you selectively listen, I'm not betting the Jets.
(02:37:27):
I just don't think you can. I'm not betting the
Steelers either. Just think you can. I'll be back on
these airwaves next Friday night. We'll break down Game one
of the World Series. We'll look ahead to another raucous
college football weekend, another raucus NFL weekend. Of course, there'll
be plenty of stories, what kind of brand new fool you?
What my name? And of course the midnight hour on
Friday night, we'll cover it all for you on the
(02:37:48):
Bernie Fraders Show. See you next Friday night at eleven pm,
right here on these airwaves Fox Sports Radio. In the meantime,
keep it locked up next, they're great, Andy Furman, Fox
Sports Radio,
