You're listening to Fox Sports.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
All right, there's global warming in these places. We'll tell

It's a pleasure. How are you?
Speaker 3 (00:36):
I'm living the dream? Come on now? What a day yesterday.
I mean you just heard the update on baseball. It's
funny to me. You almost forget that we had dramatic
extra innings baseball last night because we had so much
college football it was absolutely insane. It's fun doing these
on Sunday morning, because man, I'm still on a high
from Saturday and I'm ready for a great day on Sunday.
We got a huge sleep, we got London football.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
It's this is better than brunch.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
You know, I'm glad you mentioned the London football because
I feel bad because you're filling in for my good
friend Bucky Brooks. And that's great because Bucky has to
watch this garbage in London. He has to watch the
Patriots and the Jackson I mean, really, I feel for him,
I really do. I mean, no one should have to
watch that. That's like torture. I mean it's like death.
I mean really, it really is. Getting back to yesterday,
it was great. I talked about global warming. Let's talk
(01:23):
about global warming in these cities Tuscaloosa, Norman, Oklahoma, and
in LA. Why we're talking about Alabama, Oklahoma University and
USC You don't think those seats are getting hot. You
don't think it's hot in those places right now?
Speaker 3 (01:36):
FITZI, Well, here's the thing with Alabama. At least I
expected it, and it's rare that I get to make
a victory lap. But when I am right, I like
to let the world know when it happens, you don't
have a little bit of fun. The fact is, I
don't think Alabama's a bad football team. I think Alabama's
like everybody else. Now they're an okay football team. What
do they do yesterday. Turnovers, accuracy issues at times, penalties
(01:58):
galore all over the place. They looked like a team
that's sort of up and down. They looked undisciplined, which
is something we're not used to seeing from a Nick
Saban team. This is just part of the difference. I
expect Caitlin de Boor is going to be a very
good coach in Alabama. Long term, it's going to be fine.
But realistically, there was gonna be some sort of a
step back here because there's a culture change and there's
an expectation change. I keep thinking about late in the game,
(02:20):
for anyone that didn't see it, there was a fourth
and long that became fourth and impossible, fourth and twenty
two late in the game because of a penalty where
a guy lost his cool emotionally for Alabama. And what
really hit me is he stood on the sideline. Sure
coaches were talking to him, but you didn't see anybody
freaking out. And I just I feel like that's the difference.
If you're talking about Nick Saban, he'd been losing his mind.
(02:42):
He'd been losing his mind with the player. The players
would have been losing everybody, but there was just a
different level of accountability. There was a different level of
ferocity all of the things that Saban brought. That's why
I think we undervalued what it's like to lose a
legend as a head coach and now got somebody in
there that's very good. But Alabama's taken step back and
they're gonna lose some.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Games like this, right And look, it's one thing to lose.
And if Saban was coaching right now, and if they lost,
you know, people say, ho harm, it happens a bad day.
New coach comes in there, he's feeling the heat. I mean,
he lost to Vanderbilt. He lost yesterday. First time they
lose to Vanderbilt and Tennessee in the same years, just
like nineteen eighty four. You know, those fans don't expect that.
(03:22):
I mean, that's what happens when you win, you spoil
your audience. And they're spoiled right now. They expect to win.
And this guy right now is probably getting death threats.
I'm telling you that the boy's probably getting death threats
right now.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
It's sick.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
I know it is, and it's wrong. And I'm not
gonna sit inre on this microphone and say he should
get canned because I know what it's like to be fired.
I've been down that road. It's ugly, it's terrible. So
I would never wish anybody to be fired. However, he
right now wishes he was not in Tuscaloosa, I promise
you well.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
And think about the way this all went down and
when he got hired. The way I read the whole
situation is this is great for everybody, because, let's be real,
Kaylin de bor is gonna make a ton of money,
but he's doing the impossible. He's replacing a legend, and
I just don't know that anybody can do that. Right,
So Alabama can always look back and say, hey, we
hired the rating coach of the year coming off a
National Championship game appearance that has won it every program
(04:12):
he's ever been at the highest possible level. Okay, that's
all very true. Is that gonna work? Now? When you're
used to saving? How can anything work? So? I look,
I don't think the Caitlin divorce going anywhere short term, right.
I think he's gonna be just fine. And again, Alabama's
gonna be just fine. It's just just fine. Isn't what
they're banking on in tuscal lousive. That still feels better
though than USC. I mean, is there right now? Like
(04:35):
the greatest thing the USC's got going for him is
that Florida State is distracting us about epic failures because
what USC is doing right now compared to what was
expected and the way Lincoln Riley has sold it, Like
you can make the argument that Lincoln Riley killed two franchises,
two programs when they left Oklahoma. Oklahoma's no good. USC
is no good. And now you're sitting there looking at
Lincoln Riley said, Okay, buddy, how do you go fix this?
(04:56):
Because that's not the expectation.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
I don't understand. Lincoln Rowley was like a darling in Norman, Oklahoma,
and they won, and Oklahoma has always won, but that
was prior to nil. That was prior to the portal.
So maybe he's not getting the money needed. I mean
right now, if you're a coach in college football, it's
not only being recruiting. I mean, Rudy Cruz the life Bud,
of course, but you have to have a check book
as well as being a great recruiter. And maybe they
(05:22):
just don't have the back. I don't know. I don't
know what it's like, but and I don't want to
be in it. And we've seen right now what's going
on in the basketball world. When Tony Bennett leaves and
I'm not talking about the late Tony Bennet. When Tony
Bennett left Virginia just the other day. You know why
he left. He doesn't want to handle this nil portal garbage.
And they got to fix it because it's ugly and
it's terrible, and I think it's ruining the college game.
(05:42):
You got to recruiting a kid in high school, he's
not going to ask you. Back in the day, he
would ask the coach, am I going to start? Or
are we on TV? And how many times? Okay, that's one.
Today they don't ask that question. They said how much
am I getting? That's what they want to know. How
much am I getting?
Speaker 3 (05:56):
But is it so? I hear you, and you're right
everything you just that is a true statement. Where we
disagree is I don't think it's ruining the game. I
think you're like, look at college football right now. I
think college football is better than ever. Just the fact
that we're sitting here saying, man, Iowa State is a
real shot at the college football playoffs. There's a number
nine team in the country. Do they feel like the
number nine team? No, But they're the number nine team
(06:18):
in the country and they're the front runner in their conference.
Penn State is likely today going to be the number
two team. Do they feel like you're normal number two?
Speaker 4 (06:25):
No?
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Like this feels like a wild, unprecedented year in college
football where every single Saturday we have no idea what's
going on. And I think that's beautiful for the sport.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Like, you're right, but you can't develop continuity because half
these kids that are not playing on those teams are
gonna look to go somewhere else. That's the thing. There's
no continuity.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Do you need it?
Speaker 5 (06:44):
Though?
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Like I mean, as a consumer, as an agent of chaos,
I don't want continuity. I want I want everything to
be absolutely just oh my god, what is happening at
every turn? And that's one thing that frankly makes the
NFL beautiful is that every year you don't know who's
gonna come for. You don't know if Houston is just
gonna come out of nowhere like they did last year
and suddenly become sustainably good for a few years. You
(07:06):
don't know if the commanders are suddenly gonna turn things around.
And that's part of what we love every year when
we talk about the NFL. I want that for college football.
Like I hear that, you know, hey, money is getting
rid of great growth coaches. I do believe that. And
is that bad for the development of players? Probably, yes,
It's gonna take a long time before we know, you
know how that plays into the next level of football.
(07:27):
But frankly, I think that college sports right, like you
if you want to win a championship in college basketball.
I grew up in Vegas. I grew up a fan
of the running Rebels. I as a kid, I went
to Larry Johnson Stacey Ogman games. I loved that. I
have a Larry Johnson jersey hanging up signed in like
UNLV basketball was life for me as a kid. And
here's the thing. UNLV basketball hasn't been good for a
(07:48):
long time. They're still not gonna be great this year.
But here's the other side of it. You want to
be great, all you gotta do is spend the money.
You want to be great, All you gotta do is
raise the money. If they you know you're right.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
But the point is. I don't think that's the way
it's gotta be, because the rich will get richer and
the other teams will fall on the sidelines. Holdo olthough,
I will tell you this much. I'm shocked as anybody
right now that Indiana is probably like the top being
the top twelve, they may make the playoffs Indiana football,
Are you kidding me? Who knew that? They're undefeated?
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Right?
Speaker 2 (08:16):
And you look at schools like Vanderbilt They're gonna be
in the top twenty five this week, Navy Army, they're
both undefeated. Look, I don't think they're paying players an
Army and Navy. There's no way of doing that. But
the point is that you know, if I'm a coach,
I don't have a shot in hell if I'm coaching
at a school like Miami of Ohio, at Toledo, at
Eastern Michigan. I mean, the separation between the powers right
(08:38):
now are even greater than they ever were before.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Well, the coaches will tell you. And I talked to
one prominent college football coach a few weeks ago about this,
and he said, like, at this point, it's almost more
important that you're recruiting your own kids to stay that
you are out on the streets getting new kids to
come in. You're fighting the transfer portal every single day.
It's exhausting. I hear that. I understand that. I don't
think that's a bad thing, though, I mean, I mean
(09:01):
you mentioned some of the unprecedented teams again, I'll go
back to UNLV. Like UNLV football now, they got a
big game on Friday against Boise State. If they win that,
they're looking at it and saying, hey, do we have
a wild shot at getting towards the playoffs? Would you
and LV otherwise have a wild shot at getting towards
the playoffs? No, like Boise State has a very real shot.
Army Navy you mentioned already a defeated have real shots
at the playoffs. It's just that I think this is
(09:24):
actually what's great. And if you're a coach that doesn't
want to deal with this, I totally hear that. I
also kind of don't care, Like, we got coaches out
here that have made how much money for how long,
like go out and earn it. If you're if you're
Lincoln Ridley with one hundred and twenty million dollar contract,
I really don't care if you think that recruiting is stressful,
or getting name, image likeness collectives to start spending money
(09:46):
is stressful. Like what are you making one hundred and
twenty million bucks for? Like, go out there and do
your damn job. Like, if you don't want to come
to coach in this climate, that's fine. There are a
hundred guys that will take your job.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
But by hear what you're saying, but kids are not
going to schools any longer because of the coach of
the coach's name. They're going to the coach's wallet. That's
why they're going to those schools. I'll give you an example.
You talk about your UNLV football. They had the quarterback
that quit because he was getting screwed on his payment
under the nil. Really, he didn't go there because of
the coach or the school, or the campus or anything else.
(10:17):
He went there because he was supposed to get paid
and they didn't pay him, so he left.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
Why is that bad?
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Because it shouldn't be that way. This is supposed to be.
This be intercollegiate athletics, not pay for pay. It's not
professional sports. It's a different animal. And more than that,
let's talk about the educational aspect. I know don't laugh,
Please don't laugh at me. But you know, really and truly,
when we went to school, if you want to transfer
to the school, lay to school b you know, you
(10:44):
got to lose some credits, maybe you had to sit
out a year. They have to change this. You know,
the college presidents are sitting back and saying, well, it's okay,
I'll turn my head because we're making a lot of
money from this, But what about the educational aspect. I know,
I know it's athletics and it's sports, but it is
a college, it is a university.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Yeah, but nobody has ever sat back and said, you
know what, I don't think justin Timberley got a very
good education. Nobody's ever sat back and you know, did
the Backstreet Boys get their education? How? I was like,
we don't apply this to music. And you know that's
my background, as everybody knows. But I've always looked at
this and said, look like, you know, frankly, I was
offered a full violin scholarship as a kid. Believe me,
(11:21):
they offer them who knew that to go to Indiana.
And the funny thing is, if I'd have gone to Indiana,
which at the time had one of the best music departments,
classical music departments in the world. They had a great
violent instructor. If I'd have gone there, I'd have learned
from one of the best in the world, with great
practice facilities that were better than anybody else's. That would
give me a better chance of getting future jobs. That
would have given me a better chance at future auditions.
It would have given me all of those things. And
(11:44):
at the same time, I could take gigs for more
money because I was going to Indiana. I could teach
kids for more money. Because I was going to Indiana.
I could make side hustle from the day I got
on campus. My question is why have college basketball and
football players not have the same opportunity that violinists have
had at Indiana. For a general, it doesn't matter like
to me, if the reason you go to school is
(12:04):
to figure out how you're going to live in society
and how you're going to earn money, if I could
start earning money today to go to schooling go.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
But you're not going to school, but right, but you're
not going to school to earn money. You're going to school,
as you just said, to kind of force to your
future and earn money after you graduate, not earn money
while you're playing. I just don't think it's right. I
know that the athletes are doing a lot for schools.
What they do with they sell merchandise that get you
on TV. You know, it's the only profession in the
(12:32):
world where the workers don't get paid. Now they're getting paid,
and I think they should get paid. But then again,
it should be an illequal in an equal situation. You know,
the women are not getting with the men get Some
sports are getting more than others. I get it, football
and basketball carry the load. I get that. But you're
going to school not to get paid, at least not,
and that's in that way. I mean, guys are getting
(12:54):
millions of dollars.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
It's crazy, But the goal is to get to the
point that you can get million dollars. If you can
do that, now, why wouldn't you? Like the whole reason
I dropped out of college was because I could either
continue to get an education as a musician or I
could go earn money. I was getting too many gig
offers to play for money. I'm like, I could start earning. Now,
why am I gonna put myself more in debt? Like so,
I'm man if a kid has a chance, if an
(13:16):
engineering kid has a chance today to make two million
dollars on a great invention, would we ever stop them
even though they're you're right, and.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Kids do that now they do leave go to the NBA.
If THEYD a freshman or sophomore year, they go to
the NFL. Maybe if they're a junior year, they missed
it the NFL, Like, what.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
About the hundreds of kids that won't play in the
NFL or the NBA, Like, and this is their chance,
Like Dylan Gabriel may not have a shot to play
in the NFL. He probably doesn't project to me much
of an NFL quarterback at all, but he has a
shot to make millions of dollars. Now, I want that
for my kids, like I want that. I don't have kids,
but I want that for the next generation. I want
the next generation to go out and earn money. And
if they have a chance to do it. Man, if
(13:51):
you're so good at what you do, you can make
millions of dollars to do it, And you can make
those millions of dollars right now, man, good on you.
You should make your millions of dollars. You're right, You're
losing money.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
But we're talking apples and oranges, because I think there
should be a set fee. In other words, if Dylan
Gabriel's gonna get a half a mill at Miami of
Florida and Notre Dame's gonna offer him like two mil,
I mean, it's crazy. So in other words, he's gonna
go to that school. Was this moment, I get that, okay,
But there should be some sort of a ceiling, maybe
(14:21):
a menu, maybe a menu of what the prices should
be for a quarterback, even in the NFL, that there's
a when the draft is there, there's kind of a
system for how much they're gonna get paid. I mean,
there's gotta be a way. It's not right where I
could outbid you for a player. I'm not saying they
shouldn't get paid, but there should be some sort of
a system where you know it's equalized. That's all all
(14:44):
I'm saying is that you know schools will not be
able to afford these players, and other schools can, and
that's why they're gonna get richer and stronger and better.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
No, the only the only thing I say to that
is I wouldn't disagree with the concept of a salary
captain college sports. The problem is that would take a union,
and that would take all players coming together and unionizing.
That's a I'm not.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
Sure they're.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
And that might be in the next five to ten years.
Right now, I think if you tried to implement a
system that limited earnings, they get challenged in court and
they would probably lose because you just can't and you know,
a capitalist world, we can't just suddenly decide that these
kids can't make that money. They get challenged every time
they lose. So I hear you on the concept of
how do you balance out? But also I still go
(15:28):
back to through all of this, if you are a
casino mogul in Vegas and you want UNLV to be great,
I don't think it's bad for college sports that you
can do that. You just got to go out and
get the money. You know, if you want, if you
want to build a team, you can go out and
buy it. Like that's to me. There's a power that
comes with that that I think is absolutely beautiful and
it empowers every school to turn around and make a difference.
(15:49):
And there are certainly schools that don't have a ton
of nil budget, but man, that's new reality, and if
coaches don't want to be part of new reality. I mean,
we've never put a salary cap on what coaches make.
We've never restricted what you know. We've got guys out
there that are getting, you know, sixty seventy million dollar buyouts,
and we have no problem with that. So I'm not
(16:09):
going to listen to coaches complain when they haven't been
captain in their earning. They haven't been captained their potential forever, right,
And so now you got somebody turning around that's been
wildly overpaid compared to what they're worth, and nobody has
ever questioned it. And now those overpaid people are questioning
why we're paying the kids. Man, I have a hard
time with that.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Let me let me leave you with this. You would agree,
I hope you would agree with this, that there are
schools in certain districts, in certain areas, in certain locales
that cannot compete with these other schools simply because in
college towns like still wa To Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, those
are the key professional teams in that city, Columbus, Ohio,
Ohio state, they can't compete. Perhaps maybe with the USC
(16:49):
where you have professional teams in that marketplace I'm talking about.
I grew up in New York City. I don't think
Saint John's University, even though Rick Bettino's coaching their basketball team,
I'm not so certain they could compete with other schools
that are in rural areas that become the only show
in town. That's all I'm saying. Because you got professional
teams to compete against.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
I hear you. I just we didn't care that MTSU
couldn't compete, So I don't care if these schools can't.
Like the lack of competitive competitiveness across college sports has
always existed. It's just hitting new schools, and new schools
are saying, well, this isn't fair. Fairs where a pig
gets a ribbon like fair hasn't existed in college sports
in a long time. When it comes to competitiveness, there
(17:29):
you go.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
He's Jason fitz Fitzy's with us today. Get him on Twitter,
get him on next whatever you want to call it.
At Jason fitz Hey in the third hour today, that's
eight o'clock Eastern time. Mike Harmon will be here, and
that's Swollen Dome, at Swollen Dome or at Andy Furman
e fsod I bet he yet, we'd love to hear
from you. Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. That's
our number. That translates to eight seven seven nine nine
six sixty three sixty And we got ask Fitzi in
(17:52):
this hour. Yes, are you ready for that? Fits ask?
Speaker 3 (17:54):
I can't wait.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
I know no bottom barrel betting an hour number two
and as mentioned, Mike Harma comes in an hour number tie.
Now there's a new reason to watch this team. Tell
you all about that.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
Next you're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
All right, this won't be as easy as you think.
We'll explain that in just about a minute. He is
the violin man himself, Jason fitz Fitzi in for Bucky Brooks.
I'm Andy Furman, and we are Fox Football Sunday on
Fox Sports Radio. By the way, before we get rolling here,
football fans, be sure to turn into uh Fox Sports
Radio every Sunday morning, beginning at ten am Eastern seven
am Pacific. Four count down the Kickoff, presented by bet
(18:31):
MGM Brian No Jeff Schwartz, a professional better Bill Krakenberger
will have you covered three hours before kickoff every single
Sunday morning. Listen to Countdown to Kickoff, presented by bet
MGM right here on Fox Sports Radio and of course
the iHeartRadio app. Now, let's get into this. Fitzy Okay,
talk about the Patriots Jags game in London because that's
where Bucky Brooks is. I feel bad for him because
(18:53):
this is what I call the Mike North game. All right.
Mike North is my longtime partner. I love him to death.
We work together at Fox Sports Radio. And the Mike
North situation is if the game is bad and I
would not watch it it was in my backyard, I
closed the curtains. That that's a that's a Mike North game.
You know, you close the curtains of the if the
game is in your backyard, they close the curtains. That's
(19:14):
Mike North. So that's what I would do with this game.
But look the Pageot's got this rookie Drake May. He
came away from his first three touchdown passes and maybe
there's something for the future there. But let me run
this by you. See if you agree, I think the
NFL and everybody talks about who's gonna win, and they
beg to this and this comparing completely this is what
it's all about. It really, it's easy. The NFL is
(19:35):
based on two things, coaching and quarterbacks, all right, And
I will tell you right now that Jacksonville would not
be one and five if Andy Reid was coaching Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
I agree with that completely. Look, and Doug Peterson's seat
is so incredibly hot that it's it's insane to me
because to the point, we see this all the time.
It feels like coaches on bad teams get fired. On
the way back from London. I'm looking at this saying,
you know, May to your point that you just made
a few touchdowns, had a couple of interceptions in that
game too, but played really well behind an offensive line
(20:07):
that's future and made the most of that situation. And
now they take on a Jags defense. It's absolutely awful. Right, So,
if Doug Peterson loses this game, I just question whether
or not he has a job tomorrow. I was a
little surprised last week he kept his job through all
of this. I never root for anybody to get fired,
but change is inevitable in the NFL, and I think
we just sort of have to understand that. So realistically,
(20:28):
the craziest part about all of this is I remember
standing on the sidelines covering Trevor Lawrence's freshman year in
college when people were saying, hey, he should sue the
league to get allowed to come into the league. Right now,
he's so good. What's happened to that? Like, how did
you manage as a franchise to destroy one of the
most camp missed prospects we've seen in modern college football history.
(20:48):
Because that's exactly what the Jags have done. It's unforgivable
if you think about how bad the Urban Meyer year was,
but then it was no Doug Peterson's gonna save everything. Well,
what if Doug Peterson's kind of got a lucky year
under Carson Wentzon Really isn't that great at what he does?
Because that's kind of what it feels like right now.
It feels like the Jacks are lost. I think the
patriotshould actually pull a bit of an upset here, and
(21:10):
if they do, it feels like Doug Peterson is going
to be the next coach to lose this job.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Yeah, And the funny thing is you took about Lawrence.
I mean, honestly, he was heralded coming into the league
and he's become almost a turnover machine. And here's the thing.
I think it's not his skill set that's lost. I
think he lost his confidence. I really believe that. I
think that that's a big part of what his deal is.
And he signed that big contract, well for two hundred
seventy five mil. And the owner of Jacksonville comes out
(21:36):
and says, and this shot con this is like a
couple of weeks ago, well maybe before the season even started.
It was in print. He says, this is the best
team I have in franchise history. I mean, that's a
lot of pressure to put on there. So you know
he's dying every time he sees his team come out
in the field and lose. So I think you're right
about the coach. He's on the hot seat. But and
again I think what the Jets have done with their
head coach could be a president for us. If they
(21:57):
do lose this game, he could be bye bye. He
may not be on the plane back to the States.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
Well, the hard part for the Jags, the reality for
the Jacks, I should say that I don't know that
they think it's hard. Is you know, you've got an
owner in Shatkhan that's really not that invested all the time.
You've got a team that doesn't have a ton of profile,
you don't have I know it only takes one. There's
only thirty two jobs, so everybody will always argue that
every job is appealing. But I think to save a team,
(22:23):
more often than not, you either need a brilliant coaching
higher because I think coaching really matters in the NFL,
we don't spend enough time on that, or you need
somebody that's so committed to the franchise that it just
hits different. Right. So it wasn't that long ago that
we were sitting here saying the Texans are an abject
disaster and nobody would ever want that job and it's
never going to get fixed. Well, Jamika Ryans comes in,
(22:45):
has history with the organization, was a hot candidate, but
he also loved the Houston Texans, so it made a difference.
So for every Texans fan that sits back and says, well,
we need to turn around and hire Ben Johnson, the
offensive coordinator Lions, who's ever year going to be the
hot candidate? My question is why would Ben Johnson take
that gig? I know there's only thirty two, but if
your Ben you're gonna have options. So if you're going
(23:06):
to go somewhere, coach, do you really want to go
to a franchise that doesn't really seem to have a
home base, that's part London, part Jacksonville, that's not really
that nationally relevant, that doesn't have a star loaded roster
you can immediately win within Even if you do, you're
not going to be a rock star coach. Like there
are a lot of things that stack up against Jacksonville.
They'll find a coach, they'll find somebody to come in.
But if the goal is you know, we're going to
go in and hire a superstar to come in and
(23:28):
fix the Jags, I just don't think the Jags are
a superstar destination for a coach.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
You make a great point, because the rumors are out
there at Bill Belichick maybe a candidate, he's not going there.
I mean, he'd be out of his mind to go there.
I'm thinking right now, I think he's enjoying the media deal.
He might not even go back to coaching at all.
I don't know, you know, but I haven't asked him.
I do text him every now and again. We like
pen pals over the years, but I don't see him
going back to that.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Basically, that's a heck of a pen pal I have
right there.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
I mean, he's great. I mean, I tell you several
years ago, we had him on as a guest on Fox.
I mean I asked to come on and came on.
It was unbelievable, really, And then when I was looking
for jobs, I mean back in the day, I said,
could I use you as a reference? Because no one's
gonna believe that Bill Belichick's my reference, right He says yeah,
he says, do me a favorite to put it on there.
But if they want, tell him to write to you,
(24:17):
and I'm not running them back up calling them back,
just say yeah, he's a reference. So you know, he's
a good man. I do like coach and he's been
good to me over the years. So we'll see what happens.
But moving on, I don't think he's coming back that quickly.
He got this Bills game. They're playing the Titans, and
right now, Mike, look, i'd like to kiss of death
because I always thought Mason Rudolph was going to be
a good quarterback in the NFL, and Oli Gordon I
(24:39):
thought back in August, I thought he'd be a Heisman candidate.
So if you've got to Oklahoma State, don't mention, you know,
make sure I don't mention your name, because I am
the kiss of death. Oli Gordon has disappeared from the
face of the earth. And Mason Rudolph right now, who
was starting today for the Titans, I hope he does well.
I thought he was a good quarterback. That's how much
I know. That's why I sit behind the microphone and
I'm not wearing a uniform. I tell you that's it.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
The hard part for the Titans is that their record
will vastly different if Will Levis actually understand understood how
to take care of the football. I am the leader
of the street team of Will Levis is not a
capable NFL starting quarterback. I have been for a long time.
And for people that come in and say IM being
too tough, I would just say go back and watch
the Kentucky footage. Like I've been lucky enough to cover
(25:23):
the draft now for what seven years of my career,
six years at ESPN and last year for Yahoo Sports.
And the funny thing about if you go back and
watch a lot of these kids, you can see sort
of the tendency from college go to the NFL, and
Will Levis had a tendency at Kentucky to throw up
just absolute fifty to fifty balls for no reason at
the worst time, and you scratch your head and say,
what exactly did he see? Like, why did he make
(25:45):
that decision? And it's the why that I love to
try and figure.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Out about Mason. Tell me about Mason Rual because I
have always liked him.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
No, I think Mason is the good knock great category.
You know, he's fine, and Mason is gonna, I think
have some success with the Titans, by the way, because
the Titans have been in these football games. So the
problem for Will that everybody comes in and says, well,
this is just a moment. You can coach it out
of him. No, I think you are. You are at
that point. So is Mason this sort of guy that
(26:11):
can absolutely, you know, take over a team and will
them to victory as we say, No, is Mason the
sort of guy that can hold down the fort for
the rest of the season for the Titans? Yeah, now,
Will Levis is hurt, That's part of why Mason's coming in.
But I honestly, I think you're right that Mason's a
good quarterback with weapons around him, He's going to be
able to utilize those weapons. He's not going to have
the same stupid turnovers that Will Levis has had. I
(26:31):
think the Titans will look better. They'll lose this game,
but I think they'll look drastically better.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
I always gonna say we'll wasting our time with this
game because he's gonna lose anyway. I mean, if you
will quarter it back in or I was courted, it
doesn't make They could play twelve and eleven and lose
this game. Really, they're losing this game in no way.
All right, he's fifty, He's Jason Fitz I'm Andy Firman.
We are Fox Football Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. And
by the way, this reunion could get ugly really good.
(26:56):
That's coming up next right here on Fox Live from
the tyraq dot Com student. But first, our guy dB
Dan Bier with the sports.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
They're singing in New York.
Speaker 6 (27:05):
After the Yankees win the America League Championship Series in
five games over the Guardians, winning in Cleveland on Saturday night,
five to two and ten innings, your hero Juan Soto.
Speaker 5 (27:16):
This is how it sounded when Soto.
Speaker 6 (27:18):
Stepped to the plate in the tenth inning in a
two to two ball game on the Yankees Radio network.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
And the one two swung on a high fly at
a center back Loos Thomas on the track, He's at.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
The wall and she's gone a three run home run.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
The Yankee bench comes on the field.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
Wow, what a Soto photo.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
Lon Soto the hero is.
Speaker 6 (27:43):
The Yankees advanced to the World Series for the first
time since two thousand and nine, forty first appearance in
team history. They now await the winner of the National
League Championship Series. Mets and Dodgers played to night in
Los Angeles, eight to eight Eastern Time. Dodgers up three
to two in the series. You'll see it on Fox
Sports one. Week seven of the NFL season does kickoff
(28:06):
in London nine thirty Eastern Time. It to the Patriots
and Jaguars. Romandre Stevenson expected to go for New England
despite a foot injury. More injury news in Week seven,
Commanders running back Brian Robinson should play against the Panthers,
while Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker the third was added
to the injury report because of an illness. Titans will
start Mason Rudolph at quarterback against the Bills. As Will
(28:28):
Levis nurses that shoulder injury. The NFL network is reporting
lines defensive end Aiden Hutchinson has a chance to return
from his broken leg if the Lions make the Super Bowl.
While in college football on Saturday, number one goes down.
Texas falls to Georgia fifth Rake Bulldogs get the win
in Austin thirty to fifteen. Now, the SEC did release
(28:50):
a statement following the game after a pass interference call
was reversed and then prior to the reversal, Texas fans
threw water bottles on the field. The statement from the
SEC said quote, the game officials gathered to discuss the play,
which was permitted to ensure the proper penalty is enforced,
at which time the calling official reported that he aired
(29:11):
in a fall, a foul should not have been called
for defensive pass interference. Consequently, Texas was awarded the ball
at the Texas nine yard line. That was about the
overturning of the penalty, as for all of the things
that were thrown on the field, the SEC said, quote,
the disruption of the game due to debris being thrown
onto the field will be reviewed by the Conference Office
(29:32):
related to SEC sportsmanship policies and procedures.
Speaker 5 (29:37):
Welcome to the SEC.
Speaker 6 (29:38):
Texas number eleven at Tennessee top number seven, Alabama in
SEC action twenty four to seventeen.
Speaker 5 (29:45):
Couple of other notables. Indiana seven to zero.
Speaker 6 (29:47):
For the first time since nineteen sixty seven, following their
route of Nebraska fifty six to seven. Well, Colorado took
care of Arizona in Tucson thirty four to seven. Buffs
are five and two on the year.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
Back to you, all right, Danny, thank you so much.
All right, he's Jason fitz That's Fitzy. I'm Andy Furman.
We are Fox Football, Sonnia Fox. What's ready on one?
Quarterback is just perfect? He really is what I tell
you who he is. In just about a minute, we
got to ask FITZI In about five six minutes from now,
We've got this Eagles Giants game. And I'll tell you
if it's the thing that I look about this game.
The whole key of this game is really Sequon Barkley
(30:21):
coming back playing for the Eagles against the Giants. But
I will say this about the Eagles. The Eagles problem
right now, they could talk about the running game, their injuries,
the lack of passing, and whatever it may be. I
think the major problem here is their coach. You talk
about distractions in sports, who's a bigger distraction on that
team than Nick Siriani, the coach fighting with the fans.
(30:41):
I think he's the distraction of this team.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
I really do. Yeah. And you know it's funny because
coaches tell players all the time that don't be the
reason that other players, I should say, are answering questions
in the locker room, don't create questions for everybody else.
And that's exactly what Sirianni just did.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
You know.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
He creates sort of a conversation in the locker room
that people are gonna be asking questions about. And it
just doesn't make any sense. I hate lame duck coaching situations.
I hate We're gonna give this another year and see
how it works. It's just so rarely actually works out
sustainably for long periods of time. It doesn't make a
lot of sense to me if you are that close
to making the changes. Philadelphia was reportedly last year to
(31:20):
make the change. And I just genuinely believe if you
look at the modern NFL and success it's like an
eighties wrestling tag team. You gotta have two guys. You
gotta have two guys. Your coach and your quarterback have
to be on the same page. And if you have
a coaching quarterback that have the same identity, same understanding,
same system, same processing, same everything, you have something. And
that's part of the equation of the Chiefs. We always
(31:42):
talk about Mahomes. It's not just Mahomes, it's Mahomes and
Red with spags in the corner as the manager of
the tag team saying, hey, we got all this right
like it takes that sort of that sort of work.
Sirianni and Hurts are clearly not on the same page.
They're clearly not bringing out the best of each other anymore,
and Philadelphia feels broken, so in an effort to not
make change, I think they've honestly wasted this year.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
I agree, but I still think they'll beat the Giants.
Johnson have too many injuries, too many players are up.
I did say something about this quarterback is perfect coming
into this segment, and I'm talking about the Bengals Browns game.
I'm talking about Deshaun Watson. He is perfect. He's twenty
four for twenty four and winning in lawsuits. That's what
he is right now. So he's perfect, right and he
does lead the league in sacks. He's been sacked like
thirty one times. Their offensive line is terrible. But you
(32:24):
know what, I got a funny feeling that the Browns
are gonna win today because I'm hearing now to what
I'm hearing stories that out of Cleveland that this is
his last shot. If in fact, he doesn't do anything today,
they're gonna bench him and they'll start Jamis Winston. So
I think that they got you know, running game, maybe
Chubbs coming back today. I think the Browns win today.
I really do.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
The interesting thing is that I don't think there's a
and for the whye how of it is their own fault.
I don't think that there is a team more Upper
Creek in the next several years in any sport than
there is for the Cleveland Browns because of the Deshaun
Watson situation, and like, for a second here just talking
about the football side of it. Browns fans, I'm sorry,
(33:06):
you're just you're done. It's over, and there's no good
like there's no nice way to say you are You're
screwed like you just are. And if you start thinking
about what is happening for the Browns from a salary situation,
and everybody says, hey, bench to Shawn. I've been screaming,
bench to Shawn. I've talked to you know, some of
our insiders the Yahoo Sports and one thing that has
been coome abundantly clear is that ownership doesn't want to
(33:28):
bench to Sean. And if ownership doesn't want to bench
to Shan, what do you do? But even more importantly,
it is a very real number. You have to look
at it and say, hey, if they end up cutting
Deshaun Watson, right if they cut next year, and for
anyone that doesn't know, you can designate part of the
money to be post June first. So always, if you
need to save money on the salary cap the way
you spread it out over two years is you cut
(33:49):
somebody and you designate it post to June first. That's
the cheapest way to do it. If they cut Deshaun
Watson next year post June first, it's a one hundred
and nineteen million dollar cap pit that's real. Over the
CAAP dot Com has it right now. If they cut
him post June first in twenty twenty six, So two
seasons from now, it's a ninety nine point eight million
(34:10):
dollar cap pit. They have to go three full years,
like two more full seasons the rest of this season
and two more full seasons before they get to the
level of caphit that the Broncos just took for Russell Wilson.
So the problem here is even if you bench him,
then what you're not cutting him? You can't cut him.
And what if God forbid, if you're the Browns, what
(34:30):
if he just says, fine, you cut me, I retire.
If he retires, they get escalated. Right now, the entire hit,
you'd be talking about a catastrophic They'd have to cut everybody.
They would have the financials to make it happen. I'm
not even talking about real money. I'm talking about the
money that they'd have to take against the salary cap
Browns fans, there is no solution. If the solution is
benching Deshaun Watson, you're gonna have to have your owner
(34:52):
agree to it, and your team is going to be
absolutely just Deshaun Watson has over a barrel. He could
absolutely ruin the Browns for the next ten years if
he decides he's just gonna walk away.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
From football, right, And this guy's more of a liability
made even off the field than on the field, so
I don't think anybody will even want him. So it's
it's bad, it really is. But we move on, all right.
He's Jason fitz I'm Andy Fermer. We are a Fox
Football Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. He's the man with
the answers today. Ask FITZI is next.
Speaker 7 (35:20):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsportsradio dot
Com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
All right, ask FITZI. Right around the bend. It's about
eleven minutes now, before the top of the hour. He
is Jason fitz I'm Andy Furman, and we are live
from the ti raq dot com studios. And away we go.
Ask FITZI. Here it is now. These guys get paid
a lot of money, which is fine. This is what
Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy said, but he also
said there needs to be a side to what they
(35:52):
do and that they should have to be able to do,
for lack of a better term, face the music and
own up to things. Should college football players be fine
by coaches? What do you think about that?
Speaker 3 (36:06):
Yeah, I mean, if we're gonna treat it like a
profession at this point, which is essentially what it is,
then everything's on the table. It's an interesting because we
you know, we started the show. Go back and listen
to the podcast at some point. Guys, we started the
show talking about players getting paid. I think one of
the things we have to understand too, is that there's
a difference now in how coaches process it. And I've
talked to a couple of coaches that'll tell you it
(36:26):
used to be a player could come in and say, hey, coach,
I'm dealing with a lot. I'm gonna mention I'm mentally
strapped right now, like I'm having a hard time, and
coaches that say, hey, you know, let's work through and
let's now. You've got a lot of coaches out there
that are sitting there saying, Okay, well you're getting paid
a lot of money, so suck it up. Figure it out, Like.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Oh, what happens if a player gets caught with a dui?
Speaker 3 (36:44):
Right again? Now? Yeah, Now, everything you're doing is you're
essentially a financial You're representative of the school, you know,
So it becomes a much different situation. There's a difference
between saying, remember you always represent the logo on your chest,
which is conversation a versus conversation, which is, you know,
now you're a paid employee by you know, this collective
and eventually gonna end up I think being a paid
(37:05):
employee by the school. So yeah, I do think players
are gonna have to get used to this. This is
coming like, there's got to be financial recourse at some point.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
There you go, all right, Jerry Jones, order of the
Dallas Cowboys, is in the Football Hall of Fame. I
want to know why? What has he done to accomplish
that money?
Speaker 3 (37:22):
The growth of the game so many people attribute to
you know, Jerry's vision for people that don't know even
you know, Jerry has a stake in a concession stadium
concessions company that handles a lot of the concessions across
the league. Like he's making money in every stadium every Sunday.
So I think growth of the game and the money
in the game is part of the reason why everybody
(37:42):
loves it. Like is he he shouldn't be in for
his work as a GM, but I think for growth
of the game, that's why it all comes down to money.
But also Jerry, I'd say this loudly. I think it's
not only disgusting the way he treated the guys on
one oh five to three, that he basically threatened their
job for asking quessians, but also it's it's really just small.
(38:03):
It's small that Jerry hasn't go. It's petty, you.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
Know, And why is he even doing that. He's not
the only owner I believe that does that stay in
the background. I mean, I mean, I understand after every
game he's into the locker room after every single game.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
Why and look, let y'all, I've worked for flagships before.
I worked for the flagship for the Nashville Predators was
my first radio job, and I can tell you that
not every flagship has a great easy situation. And there
are certainly times that when you say something on air
they don't like. It is common for somebody to come
in and yell at your bosses for it. It's common
to get yelled at for it. I understand some of
(38:36):
those things. That's part of the dynamic, but it should
never be done the way that Jerry did it. It shouldn't
be done in the first place, but to do it
the way Jerry did it inexcuseable.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
I got a funny story on that for you. I
worked for the flagship for many years seven hundred WLW
radio in Cincinnati for the Cincinnati Bengals, and I got
on Sam Weiss May he rest in peace pretty good.
At the end, we kind of patched it up, and
we had a traffic reporter and a helicopter that would
go over every day in the morning the afternoon to
get the traffic reports. I went on the air one
day and said, you know what, We're gonna get mister
(39:06):
John Phillips, who was the traffic cop, the guy, and
we're gonna get him to tape some of the practices.
I'm gonna send him to the opposing team because I
was on the outs with Sam. He went nuts. He
came up to the station the next day, went to
the general manager's office and went crazy. So, I mean,
I get it. I know what's going on with that stuff.
So we move on, all right, So do we have
time for one more? We have time for one more?
Speaker 3 (39:26):
All right?
Speaker 2 (39:27):
Okay, Today, who's the Coach of the Year and MVP
in the NFL Coach of the MVP.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
O'Connell's the coach of the year for the Vikings. M
VP after today is, after this weekend, is gonna be
Jared Goff. I think the Lions and the way they're
playing right now is gonna get more and more love
and the way golf. If he's able to withstand the
defensive coach of the year right now, you know what,
I believe absolutely, he's gonna if he can keep Minnesota,
if he can beat Minnesota, I should say, then yeah,
he's the MVP.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
I agree with you right there. All right, I was
gonna go with the Deshaun Watson situation, but I think
we kind of touched on that. Maybe we'll do that
in the next hour because I'm looking at the clock.
It's almost time to say adiosa now number one. All right,
he is Jason Fitz, I'm Andy Furman, and there will
not be a super League. That and so much more
where Fox Football Sunday coming up right here on Fox Mixed.
(40:17):
All right, don't look now, but there's a quarterback controversy
on this team. We'll get to that in just about
a minute. Good morning, everybody, because this is Fox Football
Sunday on Fox Sports.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
Ready.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
He is Jason fitz that's Fitzy Infan Bucky Brooks on
Andy Furman, and we are broadcasting live from the ti
iraq dot Com studios tiraq dot com. We'll help you
get there and on match selection, fans, free shipping, free
road as a protection, and over ten thousand recommended in
stalls ti rack dot com the way Ty Brin should be. Now, FITZI,
how's it going? How's it hanging? FITZI?
Speaker 3 (40:48):
Oh, feeling good on a beautiful Sunday morning, sitting here
in New England watching the sunrise.
Speaker 4 (40:54):
It just feels good.
Speaker 3 (40:55):
You know, there's something about waking up with a little
bit of Fox Sports Radio that feels good in the
It just feels good in the soul.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
Good having you here, it really is. I really enjoy
working with you know. I gotta run this by you.
I sometimes go off the deep end, Okay, That's just
the way I am, and sometimes I need someone to
kind of give me a kick in the rear rent
to get me back on track. And that's why you're here,
all right, because I want to run something by you.
I you tell me if I'm really a fool or
maybe I'm onto something over here, because I'm looking at
this situation in sports. This pass Friday, for example, there's
(41:25):
high school football, and I'm disgusted to the fact that
college has kind of ruined the high school dealer. They're
moving into college. College moving into the high school on
Friday night that was always reserved for high school. But
you got college football Friday. High school football Friday. The
Ohio State was playing University of Cincinnatian college basketball on Friday.
You have NHL hockey, you have the NBA preseason, Major
(41:47):
League Baseball playoffs, and of course the NFL is in
full swing. If you're if you're a wait and wait
the WNBA forgot about that. WNBA is playing the finals, right,
So if you're a college you're a sports fan, where
do you turn? I believe, and maybe this is way
off the beaten track. I believe there should be some
legislation that should not be any overlapping seasons in sports.
(42:10):
I think it's crazy. I really do. Back in the day,
there was always you had baseball here, you had football here.
I just don't. I don't like the World Series ending
in November. I think it's crazy and I don't like
baseball starting in March. I think it's nuts, but I
get it. It's about the money. It's about the green cabbage.
That's all. That's what it is.
Speaker 3 (42:29):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
But am I on to something here or to forget
about it? You're smoking something?
Speaker 3 (42:34):
Give it all to me. I want all of it
at once. I want mass chaos. I want dogs and
cats living together. I want all of the hysteria. There's
so I hear you that you know it gets, it
gets kind of wild. But at the same time, I
thought there was beauty the other night in just sitting
there and watching a whole group of my friends try
and figure out whether we were going to watch the
w NBA Finals on. Everybody wanted to watch and see
(42:56):
the end of that game, which was dramatic. That final
has been absolutely great so far, at the same time
that we're sitting here balancing how to watch playoff baseball
in games that have just been dramatic all the way
down to the final pitch, Like, I feel like part
of why I'm in love with it right now is
because we've gotten whether and it is We've got a
close WNBA final, We've got close baseball games over and
(43:17):
over and over again. We've got mass like just chaos
in college football where we have no idea. Who's gonna
do what Friday night got. Like you, you say you
don't like college football on Friday nights. I'm torn on
it because all the years I spent living in Nashville, well.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
I'll say I love college football, and honestly, I always
thought that was reserved for high school football. And look,
you know, I don't follow high school football. I'm just
saying that I don't think it's fair for the high
school kids have to share that night now with college football.
I thought there was a I thought there was legislation
back in the day that Fridays were high schol football days.
The NFL could not. NFL could not play on Friday
(43:51):
college but the NFL cannot.
Speaker 3 (43:54):
The funny thing to me is that, you know, all
the years living in the South, college high school football
is life, right like you, when you got a Friday
night off, you are at some random you know, Hendersonville
High School watching a high school football game. I moved
to Connecticut, you know, at the time for ESPN and
now living up here. The funny thing to me is
if I try and hunt a Friday night football game
that really matters. They don't exist up here.
Speaker 2 (44:15):
Like well, I lived at Brooklyn, New York. They didn't
have any lights. They didn't play on Friday nights. They
played a Saturday morning at ten o'clock in the morning.
Speaker 3 (44:21):
So, you know, for me, having Friday like Friday for
work for me is done at a normal hour. I
get up early for the fellas on Saturday. I like
having a little bit of Friday night entertainment. You know.
College football provides that I'm all in on these like
interesting Fox games Friday nights because it gives me something
to watch. I just you know, it's like you got
one group of TV audience and like it's funny. In
(44:42):
my twenties, I think, oh my watch, I'm not sitting
home watching football on a Friday. I'm i go out. Now.
In my forties, I'm like, no, I'm just gonna sit
at home.
Speaker 2 (44:50):
And it was a great game on Friday night. Yeah,
that was a wildfome game.
Speaker 3 (44:55):
You know, you get over the course of the season,
we've had some Friday night drama. That's interesting. So but
the thing of it is we are now in a
injected in my vein society. I saw a panel recently
where a movie director and producer. We're talking about the
fact that they turned the movie into Netflix and it
was sent back to them for a re edit, and
the reason it was sent back to them was because
(45:17):
the movie was considered too smart, and the comment was,
people can't second screen this movie, and Netflix understands that. Now,
when you're watching something that's a Netflix original, you have
to edit in a way where somebody can be on
the phone while they're watching it. So that's sort of
the world we're in now where nobody does one thing
at a time. So if I can have great sporting
(45:37):
events in the background for all of it, Like I
love hockey, Hockey is a big part of my background.
I'm not really paying attention to hockey yet. I don't
really care about hockey yet, but boy, it makes better
background noise than bar rescue does. So yeah, get it
to me.
Speaker 2 (45:50):
Ejected say, look, look, I understand people multitask, but but
there's something about choices. And even mentioned you had a
discussion with your buddies on a frontay night, like what
are we going to watch? I mean, I have that
situation on a Saturday when I'm just flipping from one
football game to another with the college football games. Lucky
for me, at the last several weeks, most of these
games have been blowouts. I haven't been really that many
good games. I think the best game yesterday was Miami
(46:12):
of Florida and Louisville because it was tied to thirty
eight going down the stretch. Other than that, they were
kind of like one sided games.
Speaker 3 (46:20):
That Tennessee Alabama game was. It was sensual at the
end of like, it wasn't a good football game. I
think the most penalties in the game in the SEC
since twenty nineteen, if memory serves me correct, but just
an inordinate amount of penalties the sloppy football game. You're right,
the Miami game felt much more like video football game.
But man, I'm enough of a sucker that at this point,
you know, I've got two TVs on the coffee table
(46:41):
and one on the wall, And on Saturdays there's I
quad boxed the one on the wall, and then you
got the two on the coffee table each have one game.
I got six games going at once.
Speaker 2 (46:49):
Usually I turned that South Carolina Oklahoma game. I wanted
to see what's going on with Oklahoma because I lived
in Oklahoma for a while. I don't ever remember that
team losing three games. They've lost three already, losing three
games in a season. I mean, so you talk about
seats that are hot, this one in Norman, Oklahoma right now.
I mean, it shouldn't be that way. There are certain schools.
(47:10):
Look Maryland yesterday wins. I mean, Maryland beating was a USC.
It shouldn't happen. Maryland's not a football school. That's why
these programs are, and these coaches are on hot seats.
And I think something like USC was up like twenty
one to seven at one point in time in that game.
Maryland should not have won that ball game, but they did.
(47:33):
I mean, it's crazy. Maybe they're paying their players more
than us he's paying. Maybe that's the bottom line. I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (47:39):
I mean, but Maryland is not a particularly good football
team this year either, So yeah, their quarterback going off
on USC was pretty inexcusable. Right If Maryland is out
spending USC, and I hear USC fans talk a lot about, well,
we just don't have to collect it all, right, go
find it, Like there are enough former players that played there,
there's enough, there's enough stars involved with USC, there's enough.
(48:00):
You really want to go find it. I agree with
you in Oklahoma though, I mean Oklahoma. This is where
the NFL logic will now hit college football, and it's inevitable.
Oklahoma made the decision that they were comfortable moving on
from Dylan Gabriel because they liked the quarterbacks that they
had in the room. They didn't really try and compete
to keep Dylan Gabriel. Now, Dylan Gabriel is having a
(48:20):
good year. Now, I wouldn't say it's great yet. He's
had some questionable moments, but Dylan is going to put
himself into the Heisman conversation for Oregon and has a
real shot at a national championship. And Oklahoma's figuring out
that when you don't have a quarterback, you can't win,
especially in the SEC.
Speaker 2 (48:36):
So I can't believe I'm going to say this. Oklahoma
right now is the worst team in the SEC. I mean,
who ever thought that? And again, you know, good for you,
Oklahoma because you made that move. Not so much because
it's great for the school. It's great for the pocketbook.
You're going to make more money being in the SEC.
That's why you left. And you're not going to play
Oklahoma State anymore. And that was a great game. That
was always a big end of season game. Oklahoma Oklahoma State.
(48:58):
So they lost lost yesterday and they lost three games,
but they are the worst team in the SEC right now, Perry.
Speaker 3 (49:05):
The funny thing is the schedule for Oklahoma. And I've
been sort of screaming this since September. I don't think
we can judge Oklahoma and Texas by the same conversation
about their their introduction to the SEC, because the schedule
for Oklahoma far much more difficult than the schedule for Texas.
Texas has some tough game on it, but Oklahoma has
a juggered out. So this is going to be a
(49:29):
tough tough year for Oklahoma in the standings, and then
they're gonna have to make a decision of what to do.
And that's that's a tough one because Brent Vnables was
a very respected defensive coordinator that the expectation was that
he'd be able to turn around and really, you know,
build something. I don't think Oklahoma is worse than Mississippi
State at this point to your point, but Oklahoma, the
wheels have fallen off for sure, and that's that's and
(49:51):
what do you do now, do you start a revolving
door or do you believe that venables can turn it around?
So you know it's it's I think a little patience
goes a long way when you start talking about the
introduction to the SEC. But Oklahoma football is not the
type of brand that usually needs to be patient.
Speaker 2 (50:07):
You're exactly right, okay. One guy who needs to be
patient is the coaching staff of the Miami Dolphins. They
waiting for their quarterback Toua to come back. The Dolphins
are playing in Indianapolis today. Dolphins are two and three. They
just got to buy their time. They say, they say
that Tula will be back. They don't know when, but
they say he will be back before the end of
the season. They're playing the Colts. The Colts right now,
Jonathan Taylor is going to be back. Anthony Richardson's gonna
(50:28):
be back at quarterback. I don't think that's such a
great move because I think the Colts have a better
chance of winning with Joe Flacco a quarterback. That's my take.
Speaker 3 (50:35):
Now. I talked to Anthony Richardson for Yahoo this week,
and I asked him pretty point blank about how he
feels and about changes in his game, and it's interesting.
He's really insistent that nobody is telling him to change
the way he plays the position to run less. But
I do think we have to also acquiesce it. This
year he's run the ball less, and so you know,
(50:55):
Anthony Richardson. The hard part is that the Colts want
to win games right now. I get that the Colts
were so far ahead of schedule after last year. I'll
just go back to the conversations we were having when
he was drafted, which was, Anthony needs reps, right he
needs to get on the field, he needs to play,
and he's got moments that Dan or Lovski always said
he had moments that you simply can't coach that level
of greatness. But he also has moments where you have
(51:16):
no idea what the hell he was even thinking with
the baal he threw, or he's wildly inaccurate. So you
got to get that he needs reps. So the hard
part is maybe Flacco does give him a better chance
to win, but at some point they're going to have
to make the decision to develop the young quarterback they
spent a first round draft pick on. So I hear
you that, you know it might give you a better
chance to win this week, I don't disagree with you,
but also long term, you got to get Anthony Richardson
(51:39):
playing these games, and frankly, I think they got to
get him back this year using his legs more so
that he can be the full version of himself on
the field. If you're trying to limit what he does,
you're not going to make him a better player. In
trying to make him a better quarterback. You've got to
find a way to sort of build around what he does.
So I think there's still work for the Colts and
Anthony Richardson to do together to get the best out
(51:59):
of it.
Speaker 2 (52:00):
You mentioned the term reps, and I tell you what,
I think there's a big correlation between how many games
you play in college before you go to the NFL.
And Anthony Richardson did not play many games. And I'm
going back now to the New England Patriots where Drake
May came in last week his first start in the
National Football League, and he threw three touchdown passes. Why
he played a lot of games in North Carolina, Yeah,
a lot of games under his belt. I think there's
(52:22):
definitely a correlation between the amount of games you play
in college before you get to the NFL.
Speaker 3 (52:27):
Yeah, which is why when we look at this year
and we're saying, oh my god, look at the success
of some of these rookie quarterbacks. Well a lot of
them have played a lot of football, and I just
that's one byproduct. You know, it used to be your
drafting a quarterback and you're thinking, well, I don't know.
Hopefully we've seen enough that we know how this game translates.
Now I think it's easier and easier for a staff
(52:47):
to know, Okay, how exactly will this quarterback play out?
You know, even Jayden Daniels, who was sort of a
one year sensation, is twenty three years old, right like,
so you know, you start talking about where these guys
come into the league, they're just better polished. They've seen more.
I'm with you. I think twenty five games. Some people
believe twenty five games is the new sort of test
that you have a better idea of a quarterback after
(53:08):
twenty five games. Part of the reason the quinn Ewers
went back to Texas. You know, you're getting more tape.
The good news for NFL teams is is you get
more tape, you can find out more issues The bad
news for some of these players is is you get
more tape, you can find out more issues. Right so,
but but yeah, you're one thousand percent right. Drake has
seen a lot of football. Bo Nicks is not particularly good.
You cannot miss me with any conversation that the Broncos
(53:30):
have found the quarterback of the future. But Bo is
exactly kind of who everybody thought he was going to
be so far. You know, I think Caleb Williams is
you have an idea who he is when he comes
into the league because he's played so much college football.
So it just I agree with you strongly that now
more than ever, you have a real opportunity to see
who a kid is in college by the time they
(53:50):
get to the NFL.
Speaker 2 (53:51):
And the Green Bay package right now with a about
the Packers, they're hosting the Texans today. They have the
system down path because they have the quarterback. They're doing
the old school method. Draft the quarterback. You give him
the clipboard on the sidelines, let him learn from the
master for several seasons, and bingo, he comes in and
he's doing really well. You know, Jordan Love right now
is twelve touchdown passes in four starts, why because my
league Williams started twice for them, and Packers are doing well.
(54:13):
Texans are five and one. The Packers are playing today
and the defense is doing it really for Green Bay.
Seventeen turnovers most of any Packers team through six games
since the year two thousand and two. But they've done
it right with their quarterback right now with Jordan Love.
Speaker 3 (54:27):
Yeah, and the next time the Packers drafted quarterback, can
we as a collective society, I'll just shut up. I mean,
it does it matter if you piss Aaron Rodgers off
if you get your quarterback in the future, No, does
it matter in you know, hopefully ten years if they
drafted you know, Jordan Love has had a Hall of
Fame level career and they draft his replacement. Okay, let's
(54:48):
just stop this madness with the Packers because they've figured
it out. You're right, one hundred percent. And if you've
got to make your current quarterback mad, but it sets
you up for the next decade at the position, it
is worth it ten times out of ten, you know.
And I've been tough on Jordan I think you know,
I thought he got paid a lot of money before
we'd really seen enough. I like proof of concept out
of a quarterback. And you know, we hadn't seen enough.
(55:09):
But I got to give him credit. I think this year,
you know, once he started to knock the rust off,
this year, it really looked good. He's had some good games.
I think Jordan has put himself in a nice position
in Matt Lafleur is finally running his offense much like
he did at Tennessee. He's running an offense where he
can utilize Josh Jacobs and he can utilize those young
weapons like this is feels like the Packers are. As
(55:30):
much as this sounds condescending, it isn't. The Packers are
a solid football team. Like I don't look at them
and say, oh, this is the one thing holding them back.
I think the Packers are a really solid football team
in a division that looks great.
Speaker 2 (55:42):
There's a pretty good game right now, it really is.
The Packers are four and two. The Texans are five
and one. The Texans defense has a lot fewer than
two hundred passing yatchs and five of the six games,
but they're five and one. And honestly, maybe I'm nuts,
but I no one's talking about the Texans had a
five and one team. I mean, really and truly, this
team right now can go fairly deep in the play.
They got it together. They're good on defense and offensively,
(56:03):
they got it going. And Jill Mixon's coming back and
running back because he was hurt. I think this team
could go deep. And no one's talking about the Houston
Texans at all.
Speaker 3 (56:11):
Actually, I hadn't thought about it till you said it.
Now that you said it kind of right, like we
spent the whole offseason saying, oh my god, look at
the Texans. Now, look at the Texans. They're gonna be
competitive with the Chiefs. And now we're actually seeing it,
and it feels like it's we're almost taking it for granted, maybe.
Speaker 2 (56:26):
Taking anybody's still about the Commanders now, but.
Speaker 3 (56:29):
This is what what again? What happens? This is the
moment of hope, like the beacon of hope, the light
the end of the tunnel in the dark, dark world.
Right if your favorite team is like mine, the Raiders,
and they suck every single year, and this is where
fans start screaming, Oh, they're not gonna be good until
they sell the team. No, that's not it. They're not
gonna be good until they figure out head coaching, quarterback
(56:51):
and if you get those two things at the right
time together, do you have a tandem. And that's what
the Texans have. Like this is pretty simple now. Once
they identified that CJ. Stroud will essentially having he's this
generation's Dan Marino, immediate immediate impact at the highest possible
level at the quarterback position, it felt like, no transition
into the league. Good God, what is he doing? He's great? Right?
(57:12):
So CJ. Straut is great and then they immediately aggressively
win in and started surrounding him with more weapons. And
they've got a defensive minded head coach that's great at
his job, that's managed to keep their offensive coordinator employed
there instead of taking a head coach job. Like this
is just the amount of wild things that have gone right.
I've become bigger and bigger fan of the concept of
the Holy Trinity, the Father's son, the Holy Ghost. It
(57:33):
is now the quarterback, the coach, and one great coordinator.
And that's what you're one hundred percent correplus.
Speaker 2 (57:38):
I scream every single day and I live in the
Cincinnati market. I love Joe Burrow. I think he's tremendous,
but I think that his head coach is holding him
back at Zach Taylor. And I don't like the idea
that the head coach, Zach Taylor's calling the plays. You
have an offensive coordinator, he should call the place. Plus,
I don't like the fact that Zach Taylor is calling
the place for the sidelines. I think you need to
call the place for the booth. But that's my take.
I'm telling you, if Andy Reid was coaching the Cincinnati Bengals,
(58:01):
they would not be with two and four. They would not.
I just think that the combination has to be mutual,
has to be a coach and a quarterback. That got
the quarterback, I don't think they got the coach. And
I think you'd have to have a coach who a
is respected by the team and b who's had a
background of somewhat of success Andy Reid did in Philadelphia
(58:22):
coming to Kansas City, Zach Taylor was a quarterback coach
in LA before he came a head coach in Cincinnati.
I think there's a major difference there.
Speaker 3 (58:30):
Yeah, And I think the one thing I would add
is that if you're trying to replicate Kansas City, the
other thing that they have. The other variable they have
is the defensive coordinator that's one of the best in
the NFL, that is probably going to be a defensive
coordinator for the rest of his career, like it or not,
so Spags is very comfortable where he is right now.
Hasn't really had any traction to get another job opportunity.
(58:50):
I look at this, This is why I'm so high
on where Minnesota's head it because I think they have
a brilliant head coach in Kevin O'Connell. I think they
have a defensive coordinator that is absolutely one of the best.
And frankly, because of a lot of reasons that we
all know about that have nothing to do with his
coaching ability, I don't think he's going to get much
of a shot. Brian Flores is not going to get
a shot at another head coaching job anytime soon. You
(59:12):
see the league, I think it's going to be difficult
to get those calls. So now you've got a defensive
coordinator that is absolutely putting quarterbacks in a blender and
he's going to be there for I think a long time.
If you're the Lions, you've got a head coach and
a quarterback that are on the same page, that are
doing a really good job. And you've got an offensive
coordinator in Ben Johnson that is one of the best
in the league. If you're the Texans, you've got a
head coach and a coordinator that are on the head
(59:35):
coach and a quarterback on the same page, with an
offensive coordinator that is one of the best and that
everybody wants, so keeping that that's the third. But like
the third, the little extra to this is that coordinator position,
and that's it makes such a difference. And when you
get all three of those together, you are immediately a
super Bowl caliber football team. And that's that's why it's
not as simple as draft quarterback. You better draft quarterback,
(59:55):
you better have a great coordinator on one side of
the ball, and you also got to have a head
coach that is among the beast.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Let's backtrack for a second. Dolphins Coats, what do you
like in that one? I'm taking the Colts.
Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
Yeah, I'm taking the Colts too, But I think the
Dolphins are just looking at and they're just trying to
tread water until two it comes back and then let's
see what they actually look like.
Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
Texans Packers. I'm taking the Texans.
Speaker 3 (01:00:15):
I'm gonna that's it. I wouldn't put my money on it.
If I'm being genuine, I would not put money on
that game. I lean Texans, but man, I wouldn't. I
wouldn't be surprised if the Packers. This is a flip
of the coin. I'll take Texans.
Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
There you go, all right, he's Jason Fitz. Get him
on Twitter at Jason Fitz. Mike Harmon joins us. Next
hour and you get him at Swollen down on Andy
Ferman and Andy Ferman fist right now? All right, we
got bonton barrel betting and this hour, and I know
you'll do well in that one, but we're gonna tell
you just how good this quarterback really is. When next
have you seen their offense lately? Well, that's right around
(01:00:47):
the corner. He's Jason Fitz Fitsie, I'm Andy Fermer. We
are Fox Sports Football on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, Sunday
football as well. It's great football. Football's every day. Shouldn't
call it Fox football because football is Monday, it's Sunday,
it's Saturday, right, it's Friday night, it's Monday, it's Thursday.
So it's Fox football. That's what it is. By the way,
(01:01:08):
Shortly after the show, a podcast is going up. The
POD's coming up. If you missed any of today's show,
be sure to check out the pod. Just search Fox
Sports Ready wherever you get your podcast. I'd be sure
to also follow it, rate it, and review the podcast again.
Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts.
You'll see this show posted right after we get up
there and fifty. I think this might be the best
game of the day. Lions at the Vikes today. Lions
(01:01:31):
got the best one two running combo in the league
and Jamal Gibbs and David Montgomery. That's the good news,
all right. The bad news they lose Aiden Hutchinson and
last week's forty seven to nine went over Dallas. So
over the last two games, the Lions their offense is unreal.
Rush sixty four times for three hundred yards. They've completed
eighty three percent of their passes for over five hundred yards,
(01:01:51):
six touchdowns, no interceptions, a perfect a perfect one hundred
and fifty eight point three quarterback passer rating for their
guy God, It's unbelievable this and I'm happy because this
team has really taken a page and really emulates their
coach Dan Campbell, which I saw I watched HBO Hard
Knocks a year ago, and this guy's a tough you
(01:02:13):
know what, and that he's making this team pretty tough
as well.
Speaker 3 (01:02:16):
I love it. I love it. Yeah, there's so much
to love about this team. But that Aiden Hutchinson injury.
You know, I had one person tell me this week,
I don't think there was any more important defensive player
to the scheme that they run the Dayden Hutchinson in
the NFL. And I think one thing we got to
really stress here is we understand that the secondary was
a work in progress this year to get fixed for
(01:02:37):
the Lions. One way we all know to mask a
secondary with weaknesses with the great pass rush, So losing
Aiden Hutchinson might expose some of the back end of
that defense a little bit. This is really curious because
it's a gruesome, terrible injury. What do the Lions do?
This is a franchise. I don't even think we know
the answer to that, because when the last time the
Lions were in win now super Bowl mode, and that's
(01:02:58):
exactly where they are right now. So they have to
be I think a little bit aggressive, and they have
to be willing to pay a little bit more than
they might want to, because at the end of the day,
this is that window, and it's so rare to be
in a super Bowl window, and there's so little wiggle
room in what looks like the best division in the NFL. Right,
So I think the Lions are a super Bowl caliber team.
(01:03:18):
I think Lions, the Lions right now deserved to be
in the conversation is the best, right. But this game
is so interesting to me because one I'll go back
to the Vikings.
Speaker 5 (01:03:27):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:03:27):
The beautiful thing that the Vikings have done is they've
put every single quarterback they've faced in a massive blender
that's confused, like seeing ghosts, the old Sam darnoldism that
is happening all the time to everybody that takes on realistically,
that takes them on. So I just think we got
to understand that this matchup is more than just what
(01:03:48):
it means for today. This matchup is are the Vikings
going to be able to do this to everybody all year?
Or is Jared Goff and the Lions Are they capable
of solving everything that no one else can solve? I
think it's wildly interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
Yeah, and couldn't the Vikings the Lions offense at one
dimensional offense. That's the key right there. In my heart
of hearts, I'm ruining for the Lions. I just I
just like Dan Campbell, and I feel for the people
of Detroit. They've been down and now so many years.
But the Vikings are really that's the story of the
NFL this year. It's a great game. It really is
probably the best game on the doc of today. But
I'm going with the Lions because it's my heart now, my.
Speaker 3 (01:04:20):
Head, now I love that. Oh you know what, when
it's a fifty to fifty and I'm I'm flipping a coin,
I'll take a quarterback I trust more, and I still
trust Jerry golfmore Sam Darnold, So yeah, I'll go that way.
Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
Okay. Now, now we're going from that great game to
Seahawks Falcons, which is a questionable game and the Seahawks
they got to stop the running game of Atlanta, And honestly,
I look at Atlanta. I mean, Kirk Cousins was kind
of looked at, like why do we get this guy?
But now ifter a five hundred and nine yard passing
game and four touchdowns in Week five, and last week
(01:04:55):
they rushed for one hundred and ninety eight yards and Charlotte.
But it's Charlotte, I know, I get it. Thirty eight
to twenty win. Kirk Cousins right now is maybe the
new savior for this team. Who knew? Who knew that
the Atlanta Falcons right now will be four and two
after six games?
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
Yeah? Well, and Kirk Cousins. I think the only thing
that I would say about the Falcons game plan is
that anytime Kirk Cousins is throwing more passes than you know,
years he's been on the earth, that's not the level
of balance that they want, right, Like, right old quarterback
throwing that many passes makes me a little bit uncomfortable.
But the emergence of Drake London, it's funny because if
you look back at Kirk cousins career, we all talk
(01:05:30):
about how he loves a big tight end. Well, well,
I think we all thought that that meant Pitch was
gonna have a big year for Atlanta. That hasn't necessarily translated.
But instead Drake London, who is a big bodied wide receiver,
has been doing everything that usually Kirk likes from a
tight end. I think Drake and his emergence is really
an under talked about portion of this. That is a
huge part of why I like the Falcons. I don't
(01:05:52):
buy the Seahawks yet, and I think it's fair, you know,
as much as we want to look at at the
Seahawks and say, well, look at the record, they really
struggled against some bad teams, and then they got a
lot of credit for hanging tough with the Lions. I
don't know, man, I'm just at this spot where prove
it to me, Seattle, and I haven't seen it yet
in a way that just undeniably proves it. So yeah,
I don't like Seattle in this one.
Speaker 2 (01:06:13):
You make a great point. I heard what you said
about Kirk Cousins throwing more passes than his age. I
think that someone needs to do with stat I mentioned
this before the Bucky Brooks. Anytime you look at a
box score and you see a quarterback throwing for thirty
five or more attempts in a game, there's a real
good chance that that team has probably lost that game.
And I'd love to see a stat on it. The
(01:06:33):
stats on everything, but none on that. We've got quarterbacks
attempts thirty five or more what their one loss record
would because you're right, it's got to be somewhat balanced.
And I think when you're throwing thirty five or more
attempts in a game, it really is not balanced.
Speaker 3 (01:06:47):
Yeah. Well, complimentary football is a cliche for a reason.
I do kind of believe that maybe we should kind
of step back and look at teams more balanced and say,
are you built in a way that actually allows you
to win consistently? And then that means you got to
be able to zig when everybody's eggs. It also means
that your defense has to be built in a way
to complements your offense. All of these like these are
(01:07:10):
the nuances instead of just you know, yelling and screaming.
Is this quarterback better than that quarterback? It really is?
Is this offense capable of sustaining long drives? And so
I'm with you. I think that looking at balance in
general should be something that analytics spends more time looking at,
and that we spend more time analyzing.
Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
And you know, this quarterback better than the other one.
I think the Sam Donald story is going to shut
those people up pretty good. Really, Now, how many people
said he didn't belong in the league. He's going to
be a bum he's not gonna play, he's not gonna
make it. Look at him now, comeback player of the Year,
no doubt, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (01:07:41):
Yeah, And also going to be interesting because what's the
future like, Look, I don't care how you get your quarterback.
You get your quarterback, like, so we have plenty of
time to figure out what that means in the future,
you know, like what it means for the Vikings, for
JJ and what it means for Sam Donald in the future.
But what we've seen as re emergence of a player
that now looks like he has a heck of a
(01:08:02):
future in this league no matter what, whether it's with
Minnesota or somewhere else. So good autumn. I want players
to be successful. But also how wild that we're sitting
here saying, man like, did they even need to draft
a quarterback? Like these are the strange conversations. It's it's
gonna be interesting to see how it plays out there.
Speaker 2 (01:08:19):
You go, Jason Fitz, Andy Furman, Fox Football, Sunny in
Fox Smith's Radio, or now they blamed the quarterback. But
here's the real problem that's next. But first, chris perfeederary
of Sports Chrissy was sorry, we're a little bit late,
but we were talking about your Detroit Lions anyway, so that's.
Speaker 4 (01:08:33):
So yeah, better late than never.
Speaker 8 (01:08:34):
Speaking of that game, we have an update on one
of the players going in that game. Aaron Jones was
kind of questionable through the week. Reports came coming out
earlier that he is expected to play in that game,
giving a boost for the Vikings run game. They had,
of course signed Cam Akers, uh I mean, excuse me.
Brought in Cam Akers early in this week as well
to kind of bolster that just in case he wasn't
ready to go. More injuries around the National Football League.
(01:08:58):
We're set to play here in London in at nine
thirty Eastern, but the Jaguars have officially ruled out running
back Travis Etn He will not be playing, according to
Doug Peterson telling NFL Network, Hey, he's dealing with a
hamstring injury. So the Jaguars lose their top running back
for this matchup. Ramondre St Stevens for the New England Patriots, however,
(01:09:19):
is good to go, so he will play as the
Jaguars take on the Patriots. More injuries around the NFL.
Rams wide receiver Cooper Cup is unlikely to play today.
Versus the Raiders. He's still dealing with an ankle injury.
The Titans are expected to start Mason Rudolph at quarterback,
as their starting quarterback Will Levis is still nursing his
own ills. Sources say the Jets and the Steelers were
(01:09:42):
in talks to trade for wide receiver Mike Williams, but
those tables are those talks are now tabled until next week.
Those both those teams, of course, playing each other today
on Sunday. Last night, in baseball, the Yankees punched their
ticket to their first World Series since two thousand and nine,
Juan Soto with a three run bomb and extra innings
(01:10:05):
five to two, as the Yankees power passed the Guardians
and they await the winner of Dodgers and Mets. Dodgers
and Mets, of course, playing later on today. In college football,
last night, Texas fell to Georgia thirty to fifteen, a
controversial reversed PI call that saw bottles being littered on
the field from Texas from the Texas students section, everyone
(01:10:28):
trying to calm them down, and later on Kirby Smart
of course acute saying that the refs tried to rob
them of this game. Indiana seven and oh for the
first time since nineteen sixty seven with a fifty six
to seven victory over Nebraska, and Navy and Army watch
out because the Commander in Chief trophy could be important.
(01:10:51):
They are Navy six and oh Army seven to zero,
both with double digit victories. And finally, Leonel Messi the
Golden Child, scored a hat trick in eleven minutes last
night and the final day of MLS play, setting a
single season scoring record for Inter Miami, but three goals
in eleven minutes for the Golden Man.
Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
There.
Speaker 2 (01:11:12):
I know you get, Jason. I knew you'd get soccer
in there. And by the way, I think it's Messi's
second hat trick in the week, isn't it. I think
it's something like that.
Speaker 8 (01:11:19):
I I will have to go back and double check that.
I just saw that he scored three goals in eleven minutes,
and I was impressed with that.
Speaker 2 (01:11:26):
I know you were, I know, thank you so much
seeing in an hour. All right, now, this team may
have found the cure today. That's coming run up. He's
Jason Fitzamande Firman, and we have Fox Football Sunday of
Fox Sports Radio we're live from the tai Iraq dot
Com studients. By the way, our thanks to Rapid Radios,
the official communication device of Fox Sports Radio. Rapid Radios
are instant push the talk walkie talkies, offering national LTE
(01:11:49):
coverage and no subscription or monthly fee. Now business owners
can keep in touch with up to two hundred staff
at one time, and it's a great alternative to a
mobile phone feed.
Speaker 5 (01:12:00):
Kids.
Speaker 2 (01:12:00):
Now gotta rapidradios dot com now for your sixty percent
of sixty percent off, he said, and free shipping. Add
Code Radio and get an extra five percent off. Now
let's roll along right now, we got bottom barrel Betty
coming up. I'd say maybe five six minutes from now.
Panthers commanders, all right, here's the deal. But the Panthers
demoted their quarterback Bryce Young, and that was part of
(01:12:21):
the team's one in five record. However, however, get this,
the Panthers defense has already given up twenty five more
points than any other team in the league. So it's
not entirely Bryce Young's fault. I don't think what's your
take on that.
Speaker 3 (01:12:36):
Yeah, no, it's not entirely Bryce showing his fault. But
you got to figure out if Bryce showns your guy,
Like the one thing I don't understand. Tell me how
Bryce is getting better not playing. Maybe they think that
they're just saving him for something, But that's what they
got to figure out. You're right, there are lots of
things to fix in this for this Carolina team. The
one thing they got to know they're going into next
year's drafts. Are they trying to fix the quarterback position.
(01:12:58):
That's that's the most important thing they've got to figure out.
So I hear you. There are other things wrong, but man,
they got to figure out what they're doing specifically at
the quarterback position for the long term. I know.
Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
All I got to do is take a look at
the team they're playing today. To Commander's look at this team.
They turned it around with a quarterback. That's basically it.
I mean, we talked about this at nauseum. Okay, NFL
equals two things, quarterback and coaching. Boom bingo. You got
those two combos, and you said you throw in that
third combination, maybe the defensive coordinator and that mix over there,
that trifecta. Boom you got it made. Look at the
(01:13:30):
teams that don't make the playoffs, in the NFL. They
don't have quarterbacks. They have quarterback problems, or they don't.
Speaker 4 (01:13:35):
Have a quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:13:35):
It's that simple, it really is. I don't get it.
And last year, and I grew up following the New
York Football Giants. I was a New York kid. I
used to go to Yankee Stadium when they played the
games over there, right for them to get rid of
sa Kuon Barkley.
Speaker 4 (01:13:47):
Let him go.
Speaker 2 (01:13:48):
He was sixty percent of the offense last year. Shame
on them, And I hope Barkley beats them to a
pulp today when the Eagles play the Giants, I do.
Speaker 3 (01:13:58):
Yeah, he's going to be out there with the thunder
of the The whole team is going to play hard
for him too. Yeah, Barkley is going to have that
massive day. And then that's just going to be interesting
because we all saw on Hard Knocks how the ownership
group felt about Barkley. So this is just gonna be
an interesting spot.
Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
All right, your team, your team, the Raiders are playing
the Rams. Kind of a battle over there. Raiders could
be a cure for the Rams league worst offense, worst
run offense in the league. Okay, the Rams passing offense
has the few touchdowns in the league, a few touchdowns
in the NFC. The Raiders they have trailed by at
least ten points in all their games this year, by
(01:14:34):
at least ten points. So I don't want to rub
it in. I know you're a Raiders fan. It's probably
eating you out inside and outside. You know, Apfo is
going to get the job done. I think he's the
I think he's the man. I think he's the coach
to get it done. But I don't know what the
problem is. I really don't quarterbacking. Obviously, it's got to
start there. I'm sure it's not the coaching. I think
(01:14:54):
it's the quarterbacking or lack thereof.
Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
There's also a lack of depth, which we knew in injuries,
which everybody's been hit by, but it just it decimated
parts of this team. The defense isn't very good, misstackles
are all over the place. They were supposed to be
a really good defense type issues on the defensive line.
Offensive line hasn't played particularly well. That now they don't
really have any weapons to throw too, so it's all
gone downhill quickly. It's all a disaster. Just Antonio Pierce
(01:15:18):
has got to show that he can keep the guys
engaged in playing hard, because that's really all right now,
I think it's already I'm already at that spot where
this year feels done for my team.
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
Well, you know what, but today you got with the
running backs of Alexander Madison and Zamir White, they could
get it done against his bad Rams running defense. They
can have a field they take and look, if they
win the three and four and the Rams go down
to one and five, three and four, you still have
The Door's not shut completely on the season.
Speaker 3 (01:15:45):
If you're three and four, No, the door is not
shut completely on the season. But the door is shut
on being a good football team. That's what I like.
I'm tired of rooting just for a playoff appearance. I
want to root for a good football team, and the
Raiders are not that right now?
Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
All right, So are you picking them today? Obviously? Are
you're ready for you?
Speaker 3 (01:16:01):
I'm picking h of course you should.
Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
I want you to do though. All right, he got
the rate is today? There he is Jason Fitz I'm
Andy Firman. We are Fox Football Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. No,
this is not a game, it's not It's a war.
And we call it bottom barrel betting, and it's freaking
next bottom barrel betting coming right up. It's about ten
minutes now, before the top of the hour. He's Jason Fitz.
(01:16:24):
I'm Andy Furman. We are Fox Football Sunday and Fox
Sports Radio. And by the way, we'll live at the
Tyrock dot Com studios. And I think it's gonna be
good because Jason has not played this game in a while,
so maybe I got a shot to win today's So
let's wait and see. But right now we got a
gate to play. Let's play it. Yes it is, and
here he is to get us rolling and going. They're
(01:16:46):
one and only. Shay Sha, how you doing, Sha Sha?
Speaker 9 (01:16:49):
I'm doing great. I'm doing great. And Jason, it's been
a while since we've played this game. So I'll give
you a quick rundown of what it is. I basically
give you an Andy wacky games around the world and
there's bets on them, and you guys will tell me
who you think will win, and I'll give you guys
the lines. We're gonna start quick here because we don't
have a lot of time in the League of Legends
World Championship Tournament. We Bo Gaming is taking on Billy
(01:17:12):
Billy Gaming today at five minute right now, Actually, Webo
gaming is plus three forty. Well, Billy Billy is minus
five twenty five. Let's start with the new guy, Jason.
Let's start with you.
Speaker 3 (01:17:23):
Look, anytime you don't know, you go with the name
you can best chant sounds good. So I'm going Billy Billy.
Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
I could pronounce we bo we bo. So I'm doing
we Bo we bo gaming.
Speaker 9 (01:17:32):
Easy love that all right?
Speaker 2 (01:17:33):
It is wbo. I guess right, yeah, w e ibo Okay,
we bo we No.
Speaker 3 (01:17:40):
Billy, No, I'm in a billy.
Speaker 9 (01:17:42):
I's tick with Billy in the International Table Tennis Cup.
David no Sek is taking on Jacob Rolick today at
five twenty a m. David is plus one twenty five. Well,
Jacob is minus one eighty Andy. Let's start with you.
Speaker 2 (01:17:56):
Well, one of my son's name is Jacob. I gotta
go with Jacob. Jacob, come on Jacoub with a K
and a U.
Speaker 1 (01:18:01):
Though kind not take it.
Speaker 2 (01:18:03):
I'll take No one knows I'll do the other guy.
Speaker 9 (01:18:05):
Okay, David, Yeah, I'm happy.
Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
I told you rightly.
Speaker 3 (01:18:10):
I don't know, guys, I think you're undervaluing Jacob spell
pretentiously anytime, because like if you give me Jeff with
the ge, you know, like our own Jeff Schwartz, like
that just feels like that's a little bit, that's a
little bit more highbrow Jacob, Jacob Yakub. Maybe we go Yakub.
Now I'm going ja Yuki.
Speaker 2 (01:18:28):
Yeah, kill, It could be Yukub.
Speaker 9 (01:18:31):
It could be I could have messed up there.
Speaker 3 (01:18:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:18:34):
In the PDC, the Professional Darts Corporation European Tour, uh,
Mike Decker, Mike D. Decker is taking on Martin Schindler
today at seven thirty am. Mike D. Decker is minus
one thirty while Martin Schindler is even Andy, let's go
with you.
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
I'll go with Schindler's list. Shindler's list, baby, that's me.
Speaker 3 (01:18:56):
I thought the same thing when you said that. I
was like, wow, that's a unfortunate last name. Uh okay,
But Mark D. Decker like Mark de Decker, is it
D the letter D or D E?
Speaker 9 (01:19:06):
It's it goes Mike Space d E Space Decker.
Speaker 3 (01:19:10):
Make a difference O Mike D Yeah. Look no, I'm
in on D. D. Decker, Mike Decker Decker.
Speaker 9 (01:19:16):
I like it in the CBA, the Chinese Basketball Association.
These Shanghai Sharks are taking iye the jing Jiang Golden
Bulls right now. The Sharks are plus four seventy five.
All the ji Jiang Golden Bulls are minus eight hundred.
How's that pronunciation?
Speaker 3 (01:19:33):
By the way, guys, I don't know, but it's fun
to say, like, yeah, right, you're thinking of Jiang, You're
thinking Yang.
Speaker 2 (01:19:42):
I got the Sharks.
Speaker 9 (01:19:43):
I got the Okay, quick, real quick, quick, quickquick. In
the Cricket International Test Series, Bangladesh is taking on South
Africa today at nine pm. Bangladesh is plus one seventy well,
South Africa is plus one thirty Andy.
Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
Okay Bangladesh no nicknames? Well, come on now, I'll take Bangladesh.
Speaker 3 (01:19:59):
We all know you don't go against Bangladeshan cricket.
Speaker 2 (01:20:01):
Let's go alright, alright, Swollen Dome. He joined us next
right here on Fox Football Sunday, stay with us.
Speaker 4 (01:20:11):
To quote one of the greatest modern philosophers quote if
you don't like it, don't watch unquote Welcome in another
beautiful Fox Football Sunday by Carmen alongside my guys Andy Furman,
Jason fits with you here live for the tirak dot com,
Fox Sports Radio Studios tirac dot com. We'll help you
get there. An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road
(01:20:34):
hazard protection at over ten thousand recommended installars, tire rack
dot com. The way tire buying should be. That quote
comes from the legend that is Kevin Durant, often trolling
on Twitter to go after folks with burner accounts and
everything else. That one he put his name on because
it was his voice that said it. Many years ago,
(01:20:56):
as people complained about the length of an NBA regular
season management all those fun things, he said, if you
don't like it, don't watch. I've had a lot of
people wringing their hands because they don't want to watch
Patriots Jaguars today. The snooze button is there on your clock,
radio or on your phone for a reason. You can
wake up to better football, different football later on today.
(01:21:19):
How you doing, fellas, But that's it. It's ninety minutes
from now.
Speaker 2 (01:21:23):
We're hanging. We're hanging. You know, people gonna watch. You
know why, because the gamblers are gonna watch. The game
is perfect for gambling. Basketball maybe not.
Speaker 4 (01:21:31):
So much now. Remember the gamblers don't actually sit and
watch generally andy, they make their bets and leave.
Speaker 2 (01:21:38):
Perhaps, but I mean the the so cold, not professional gamblers,
you know, the the oh yeah yeah, I'm saying. I
mean people like you and me, right, I will not
really gamblers, but we'd like to throw a couple of
shekels on it once in a while.
Speaker 3 (01:21:54):
The people are gonna watch because it's I keep using
this show because it's my bingch watch show. But people
are gonna watch because it's better than Bar Rescue.
Speaker 4 (01:22:01):
Like, realistically, you're not to make Taffor yelling at it
at people.
Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
No, I love I love Bar Rescue. I turn Bar
Rescue on the bugs in this bottle. You know. I
listened to him yelling, I'm like, that's right, Taffor, you yellow.
I listened to him with the problematic butt funnel episode
like that that that now wouldn't do well. Like I look,
I'm a big bar rescue guy. I'm a big law
and order guy, and like one hour shows that could
be compartmentalized and finish that I can walk away from.
(01:22:25):
So I'm big on this, right. So I understand background noise,
But you wake up this morning, you're making your turkey
bacon and egg whites. Like I am. Then you know
you're gonna turn on a little football in the background,
and that makes that makes a ton of sense. It's
better than nothing, and people will always watch better than nothing.
Speaker 4 (01:22:40):
It's it's clean.
Speaker 2 (01:22:42):
Look, they're not gonna watch question in LA. It's six
thirty in the morning. That's why I'm not gonna watch.
Speaker 4 (01:22:47):
Oh you get up early. I mean you do probably
a little different than the turkey, bacon and egg whites.
I mean that now we're going to now we're speaking
to a different sub sect, subsection of society there, Jason Finn,
it's better than me in his diet as I'm already
sitting here with a mocha that is, I think, how
big is this cup? Mark Ramsey, what have we got
(01:23:08):
about sixty four ounces? Going out here to get me?
No donuts? No donuts today, No, no, no. I paid for
donuts last week. I'm not made of money, as evidenced
by the fact that I'm working on a Sunday morning
here and rallying as early as it is here in
Los Angeles to see my guys all bright eyed, every
one of them with a coffee cup larger than the last.
Speaker 3 (01:23:31):
That was the biggest when I started my fitness journey
back in May. The biggest adjustment for me was I
gave up caffeine. Now I can have a little caffeine now,
but I gave up caffeine cold Turkey. But at the time,
it was not uncommon for me to drink half a
dozen sugar free energy drinks and a pot of coffee
a day, Like that's just sort of normal for me.
And but caffeine doesn't really give me an impact one
(01:23:52):
way or the other. But I hear you on probably
because I drank so much of it for so long.
I hear you on the large But like when you're
up in the wee hours of the morning, it just
feels good. I had to learn to get used to
water first thing in the morning, which is not nearly
as appetizing. It just doesn't. It just doesn't start the
day the same as a beautiful cup of coffee.
Speaker 2 (01:24:08):
I want to know, what does coffee have to do
with fitness, mate, help me out here. I'm kind of
foolish on that.
Speaker 3 (01:24:13):
So caffeine didn't take too much. Caffeine intake does a
lot to your body, but not the least of which
it changes your changes your metabolism, changes the way you
metabolize things. But it also changes your quartersol levels and
hydration all things. Yeah, so yeah, so I very much
so limit my caffeine at this point. And but here's
(01:24:33):
the transfer. The other side of it is when I
do have a little caffeine, now I do feel a
little like.
Speaker 4 (01:24:39):
You get a little bit of juice from it. Now,
there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:24:41):
Yeah, but I mean also, I just get poored to
drinking Seltzer water all day. No, I get that, I
feel you on that. I'm just saying that when you
when we wake up this morning. The only reason I
hate the International Games, and I do use the word
hate here, I just absolutely abhor the International Games because
it takes again a meaningly game away from the four
o'clock window. And uh, y'all don't know this pain, but
(01:25:04):
like there's something about going to the sports bar at
one o'clock. It's going to be packed. Everybody's got this
energy on the East Coast, it's great, especially living in Connecticut.
There'll be Giants and Eagles fans and Jets fans and
everybody's yelling at the TV. Right, that's a typical Sunday.
And then you hit the four o'clock games, when your
game tips, if your or kicks off. If you're a
Raiders fan, you're sitting there, I can't wait for the
four o'clock games. You look around and suddenly the bar
(01:25:25):
is completely empty because there's only two or three games
and most of them are trash.
Speaker 4 (01:25:28):
Well, people don't care about the rams.
Speaker 3 (01:25:31):
See.
Speaker 2 (01:25:32):
The question today is is if you're a fitness freak,
which I assume you are, was reading the turkey with
eggs and whatever the hell that is.
Speaker 4 (01:25:40):
I didn't mean.
Speaker 2 (01:25:44):
Get you a bad spot, right, Why are you going
to a bar watch a game? I mean that could
be the worst place in the world because you do
not nibble peanuts, pretzels, potato chips, a couple of Bruski's.
Come on, really, I mean why stay home and watch?
Speaker 3 (01:25:58):
Okay, So there's something about the collective atmosphere like sometimes,
Plus I do so much work on Saturdays for college football,
I'm usually home on Saturday, so on Sunday I like
to be out with the collective. You know, Oh, my
god of all of the energy. But you know, here's
the thing I've learned in this process of this health journey.
I go into your insert bar name here, like Buffalo Wow.
(01:26:18):
Wings is one down the street. You going there, you
get the grilled chicken. You go with the grilled chicken,
you get the side of edgies. You don't get any
sauce to dip it in because you don't need sauce.
Yellow mustard's fine, no calories in that, And then you
drink some on sweet tea. And then at the end
of it you take care of your server handsomely, knowing
that you would have had a much larger beer if
you were drinking or bill if you were drinking so
and then if you got the calories on your macros,
you can have a little non alcoholic action. So there
(01:26:41):
we go, still having.
Speaker 4 (01:26:42):
That funds torture to me, well, are you going to
go go the path of you know, you do what
the rest of us gluttons will do, and then you
just pay for it in the gym.
Speaker 2 (01:26:52):
A picture of beer and gin and wings.
Speaker 3 (01:26:55):
That's a great That is a great thing for most people.
I'm just on a journey right now trying to get
my apps to have apps. So like unfortunately the everyone
says moderation, I can't necessarily partake in moderation because I'm
on this journey to try like I want I started
on May fifteenth. By next May fifteenth, I want my
apps to have apps. I want to look like like
I could step into you know. I want to take
(01:27:17):
my shirt off and have people pass out because they
see that my apps.
Speaker 4 (01:27:20):
Wow, you really want to be that that guy. I
I it's proclamation. I gotta, I gotta, I gotta, I
gotta pause. I gotta pause our road to swol because
we gotta go to the update desk because Chris Purfett
has some breaking.
Speaker 7 (01:27:33):
News, breaking news from Fox Sports.
Speaker 8 (01:27:38):
It's been it's been a bit of a drama around
the National Football League on what's going on with Hassan Reddick.
But report just out from Ian Rapport the Jets are
getting Hassan Reddick back. He has agreed to a reworked
contract and will report to the team. The whole out
has ended. Reddick has apparently settled on a short term deal.
He was holding out for something a little bit longer term.
(01:27:59):
By apparently Jets are going to get something a little
team friendly. He will officially report tomorrow morning with the
New York Jets.
Speaker 4 (01:28:09):
Thanks so much, Chris Purfett. Yeah, I would say that's
definitely it right, and what Aaron Rodgers wants Aaron Rodgers gets.
The other thing is commerheads prevail and that he separated fired.
You know, all of those we agreed to mutually part ways.
Kind of nonsense with his old agents because they weren't
he wasn't happy of the direction. And then from Schefter
(01:28:32):
that they're agreeing to waive the over quote twelve million
dollars in fines. I didn't know that you could do that.
I thought that was where you couldn't do that anymore. So,
I mean, look, you can always do the back door
shenanigans of hey, you cut them off a piece of
property or something deep in a line item that nobody finds,
or you know, you got to have a bag man.
(01:28:53):
We're all watching the penguin. Find your bag man and
have them hang around, but with.
Speaker 2 (01:28:58):
It to have them shohey, he'll come up. Man.
Speaker 4 (01:29:00):
Wow, that's a whole other thing. There you go. Oh
from the top rope. That was a randy macho man.
Oh yeah, coming off the top rope. I thought that,
but there it is. That was one of the big
questions going forward. Two things. One with the Jets, go
find an offensive lineman, remains to be seen. That's player
X wire z E because unless they fix that. I
(01:29:22):
gotta tell you this is all cosmetic in my opinion,
going in all of it. But they certainly did need
a little bit of an extra boost on the pass
rush and calmer heads prevail at least that's this morning
Drew Rosenhaus his new agency coming to an agreement here
to get back in the fold. What do you think
Aaron Rodgers's pitch.
Speaker 3 (01:29:42):
Was, come in and will win a Super Bowl. I
am a little surprised. I thought that this might be
a landing spot for the Lions too, if they were
looking to bring in a pass rusher. I know, you know,
obviously paying an aging pass rusher might not be at
the top of their business model. But I thought, hey,
here's a guy in the street that's available. So it
answers two questions at once. But I think if you're
DeVante and your Aaron Rodgers, you're calling and saying, hey,
(01:30:05):
you know, look at our opportunity here. The problem is, Look,
all of this makes the Jets more successful. I'm not
taking anything away from the fact that all of this
makes them more successful, But what is the line for
success if the line was Super Bowl. I still look
at this and say, hey, the Jets were not without
a number one wide receiver. They were incapable of utilizing
that number one wide receiver to the fullest of his potential.
(01:30:26):
So now the argument's going to bring let's bring in
a second number one and that's gonna fix everything. Like
That's why the Amari Cooper trade to the Bills I
think has far more impact because Amari to the Bills
answers a question of something they need. What are you
doing on third and five, third and six? But the
reason the whole league is calling to find out if
Garrett Wilson's available is because Garrett is a number one
wide receiver. So Devonte makes them better. But they were
(01:30:47):
already misusing a very good wide receiver. So I just
I'm not buying the Jets type.
Speaker 4 (01:30:51):
Still, Which is funny that you know, with Garrett Wilson,
misuse inability to get him unlocked. And we talked about
it a little bit last week, Jason. The idea that
for a couple of those games he was locking up
with a couple of the best cover corners in the game. Right,
So you hang it with a hang a star on it.
But he also still had more targets than any player
(01:31:12):
in the National Football League, so the efficiency level hadn't
been there. Maybe Adams opens that up. What say you,
Andy Furman?
Speaker 2 (01:31:21):
You know, I just I think the Jets right now
getting Aaron Rodgers, I don't think they realized the headaches
he was going to bring to this Wall club. I mean, certainly, Yeah,
the guy's an MVP quarterback, is a future Hall of
Fame quarterback, and I think that for ticket sales, for
media hype, and for maybe potential greatness, everybody was excited.
(01:31:45):
It's kind of like in Cincinnati last week to hire
Terry Francona as the manager. You know, everybody's sticking to
go into the World Series.
Speaker 4 (01:31:51):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:31:52):
I think it's great. You know, expectations are great, but
I think the best days for Aaron Rodgers are behind
him and coming up. That injury didn't help either, So
you know, Aaron just comes on there. You're talking about distractions.
He's the biggest distraction. They have Jerry Jones the biggest
distraction in Dallas, and Nick Siriani's the biggest one in Philadelphia.
You can't win with distractions, and they're not gonna win.
Speaker 4 (01:32:12):
Yeah, with Aaron Rodgers, anybody that didn't note the level
of distractions, potential dysfunction, et cetera. I mean, I know
Woody Johnson and his reputation and history. Did you just
put your head in the sand. He's just saying you
were over in the UK for a while. That doesn't
work because I mean Aaron Rodgers, I mean that was
(01:32:32):
as plain as the nose on your face for several years.
And then you're wishing and hoping that he comes to
for him obviously you get four and a half snaps
last year. You're hoping for bigger, better, stronger, and that
it rolls through. Instead you got Robert Sala coordinator plus
is what we would term him. He's the ball guy.
(01:32:53):
His buddy Nat Hackett gets promoted to a level where
he has no control, and you have doubting as the
play caller because they got to figure out what to
do how to untrack Brice Hall here too, as much
as you want to unlock Garrett Wilson, Breese Hall is
a three point seven yard per carry back right now
behind a bad, ineffective offensive line. And to your point, Andy,
(01:33:16):
as much as we could talk about Aaron Rodgers and
congratulations for Mike Williams. And we'll get deeper into this
as we talk about the game in a few minutes.
Taking up and he threw Mike Williams under the bus.
He was like a movie villain because he got right
back up in front of reporters, like, yeah, you know,
it's communication. What are you gonna do? You gotta learn?
He was like, good for you, Mike Williams, as you
(01:33:37):
get ready to audition for whoever's going to trade for
you next. More on that as we roll forward. We
got some games to get through. It is week seven
of your National Football League. Fantasy owners. All your picks,
all your parlays, everything you're doing. You got an hour
and fifteen minutes before kickoff New England and Jacksonville. Note ETN.
(01:33:57):
Welcome to the all name world. Tank Bigsby. For the uninitiated,
they'll get to watch him go to work and Drake
May against what has heretofore been an absolutely inept Jacksonville defense.
Speaker 2 (01:34:09):
Question I have of this that that game is in London,
and the NFL for several years has said that we
want to move to London. Perhaps I have a franchise there. Why,
I don't know but and they want the game to
be you know, on the globe, all over the places
to sell merchandise whatever it may be. Why would you
bring those two teams to London? Could you sell out?
Because you because it doesn't matter. Yeah, the people of
(01:34:31):
it don't know any better. They think it's great football
and it's the worst, it's terrible.
Speaker 4 (01:34:35):
Well, they're just excited for an opportunity for an event,
right right when something is what it's a shame though,
it's one of seventy two that you don't normally get.
Speaker 2 (01:34:46):
No, you're you're exactly right. But if you want to
show people across the globe and across the pond what
we have to offer, that's not the best thing we
have to offer. That's all I'm saying. And there's got
to be some people in London and say, wait a minute,
these teams are not that good. Someone has to be that.
Speaker 4 (01:35:03):
Smart over the area. I'm sure they are, and in
the pubs right as they're laying down their bet, right
next door to the state or perhaps in stadium that
they're doing it. But I mean, we watch games every
every week state side, most of them. You wouldn't the
old Mike Mike north line that you use, Andy, you'd
close your blinds out a lot of these games, right, right,
they're not all gems.
Speaker 2 (01:35:24):
But every they don't have a choice. This is this
is the showcase.
Speaker 4 (01:35:28):
But in your city, you got one. Right, if you
want to go to a game, you got eight choice.
Speaker 2 (01:35:33):
If you have a team.
Speaker 4 (01:35:34):
Right, if you have a team, you have that choice. Otherwise,
get to your streaming service. And again, quoting the great
Kevin Durant, you don't like it, don't worry. We got
f one from Texas. Later we got the w NBA Finals.
I heard you guys talking a little bit about that.
What a great series, uh, and showing that officiating is
bad in every sport. H. We go all the way
(01:35:54):
through that. We got EPO, we got everything, and we
have Dodgers Mets later on tonight. It's a veritable smorgas
Board of sports and we're all for it. Here Fox
Football Sunday, it's wy Carman, Jason Fitz, Andy Ferman, and

that brew haha in Pittsburgh. As we continue on Fox,

on a good chunk of the slate, so you got
a good lather working, ready to go.
Speaker 3 (01:38:00):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (01:38:01):
Let's go Jet Set Steelers.
Speaker 4 (01:38:03):
Yeah, why don't we start right there because there's myriad
storylines at play. Minus one and a half, that's right,
the Jets favored on the road, thirty nine. Thirty nine
is the total. That's actually higher than it was Thursday night.
So hey, a little bit of a boost mixed here
because we're gonna see a little of Devontae Adams. You
got the Jets seventh and total d give it up
(01:38:23):
just eighteen points per game. But you look at the
balance that they're giving up one hundred and forty eight
passing yards again one hundred and twenty four on the ground,
so he can't get after it. Rogers completing just sixty
two percent of his passes thus far, nine touchdowns, five picks.
We talked about Breise Hall and tried to get him
on track. Garrett Wilson, maybe fewer opportunities, maybe better opportunities,
I don't know. But the other story, oh yeah, we
(01:38:45):
buried the lead. Russell Wilson is gonna get the start,
trying to do something to jump start, and maybe he
surpassed the twenty point mark, maybe a little easier than
they did with Justin Fields. For Arthur Smith's offense, they're
only giving up fourteen point three game. Problem is they
don't score a ton, leaving themselves susceptible to big opportunities
(01:39:06):
and potential els. We'll start with you, Andy Furman, what
do you think is Aaron Rodgers fixed.
Speaker 2 (01:39:12):
Past protection has been a problem on both these teams.
I don't care for Russell Wilson's playing or Justin Fields.
Justin Fields has been sacked sixteen times. Russell Wilson's coming in.
We'll see what happens, what he does over there. Here's
an interesting statistic though, because as far as the Jets
are concern, Aaron Rodgers has been hit about thirty times
this year. All right, but get this, the Jets six
(01:39:33):
game point total is one hundred and thirteen points. And
guess what, it's the same as it was last year
with Zach Wilson at quarterback. So they got some problem.
The defense is pretty good over there. We'll see what
they go over there, Defonte Adams. This is a make
up break game for the Jets right now. Good thing
for them. If they lose, they're not at home, They're
in Pittsburgh. I hope they win because i'd like to
(01:39:54):
see New York come to come to fruition with sports teams.
I mean, maybe they're women's basketball team. The New York
Liberty wins tonight, maybe the Giants win. I'd love to
see a Subway World Series with the Mets and Yankees.
So I'm hoping they win, and I think they have
a better shot at winning right now because of the
uncertainty with the new quarterback. And I thought it was
very funny when They ask Mike Tomlin the other day,
(01:40:15):
who's going to quarterback the team this Sunday? And he's so,
I'm going to keep it for a game day decision.
And then George Pickens tells everybody who's going to quarterback?
Who Isn't that funny?
Speaker 4 (01:40:23):
Isn't that the latest in the long line of things
that are well, you don't want coming out of the
mouth of George Pickens, the guy This effort has been
questioned on with regularity there in Pittsburgh. The latest and
many wide receivers there that's made a questionable decision as well.
Speaker 3 (01:40:39):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, I think you guys are both
right that offensive line is an issue. The question is
did justin Field save some of this? Because I understand
that we want to look at some of the passing
numbers in the inaccuracy, but I also watch Justin Field's
repeatedly beat teams with his legs when the pass rush
is about to annihilate him. I don't know that Russ
has that same level of being able to cook here.
(01:41:00):
So you know, frankly, you've got the defensive Player of
the Year candidate coming after him repeatedly coming after Aaron
Rodgers repeatedly. But on the other side of the ball,
you know, you've got a Jets defense that has not
lived up to the hype so far, that hasn't been
as good. I think there's a ton of pressure on
both teams in this game, a ton of pressure on
the Jets to get it right. I don't trust the
Jets offensive line. I don't trust the Steelers offensive line.
(01:41:21):
This feels like a disaster on both sides of the ball.
So the question is who's gonna make mistakes? And we
just have no idea what Russ looks like.
Speaker 2 (01:41:29):
You make a great point for you. What did Justin
Fields do so poorly that he's being bench for Russell Wilson?
Except for the fact that they Pittsburgh steel Is acquired Wilson,
they better.
Speaker 4 (01:41:38):
Play out well. I think they already had already promised
him that sorry to cut you off fits. Is that right?
Speaker 9 (01:41:44):
He was?
Speaker 4 (01:41:45):
He was in the quote pole position. I'm not saying
they should have, but we we've been talking about Smith
and I on the show for weeks going. Eventually, it's
just gonna happen. Unless Justin Fields is throwing for three
hundred and three, They're they're gonna find a to get
Russell Wilson back in and here we are.
Speaker 3 (01:42:03):
I don't think the Steelers will be four and two
right now without Justin Fields at quarterback. And it's not
because Justin Field has been an effective passer. He is not.
It's because he has just run around like there were
a couple of times. Obviously, I watched last week's game
with tremendous interest. I think the outcome on that game
looks much different if you don't have somebody as mobile
as Justin Fields getting away from running away from Max Crosby.
(01:42:25):
That's it, over and over and over again. He saved
them on third and six and it's like, oh man,
they got him. Nope, they don't have him. And that's
just that's gonna be a dynamic part of this offense.
It's missing. I think the Steelers offense is just gonna
hit a wall. But the biggest but again, this game
really comes down to how many times is walking to
annihilate Rogers? And is Rogers more accurate? Like why are
(01:42:45):
we just forgiving the fact that Aaron Rodgers was wildly
inaccurate with the football even to open guys last week?
So yeah, I just I don't I don't love the
Jets in this game. I don't love the Steelers with Russ,
but man, I got a lean Pittsburgh right now.
Speaker 4 (01:42:59):
I'd take the home with the defense. You said the name,
so long as TJ watts upright and getting after it
on the other side of end. The Jets. Look what
they did. It's like, all right, we're not getting any
consistent pass rush and they're leading to holding penalties in
the secondary. Ton of penalties back there and in effectiveness
even if it doesn't show up in the points. So
(01:43:19):
loud per game is you don't have a pass rush.
So you brought Reddick in. You gotta pay him and
get him on the field. Yeah, we'll see if Russell
Wilson's downfield pass. I don't think people watched him in
Denver last year. I think they looked at the final
stats and said it must have been pretty good. It
was a disaster. He'll take as many bad sacks or
more than justin Fields did. All right, let's pause here.
(01:43:42):
Let's turn it over to our guy, Chris Purfette with
an update of everything going on in our sporting universe.
Starting to get some of those ins and outs. As
we're an hour away from kickoff. What's up, Chris?
Speaker 8 (01:43:50):
We are an hour away from kickoff and Travis Etn
is out. According to head coach Doug Peterson, the Jaguars
will have to start with Tank Bigsby out. Running Back
Travis Etn had been questionable leading into this game with
a hamstring injury, but he will not be a go
for today as the Jaguars are taking on the New
(01:44:11):
England Patriots in London nine thirty am. Eastern running back
from Andre Stevens is going to start for the New
England Patriots. However, Patriots are also apparently on their twelfth
offensive lineman in seven games, something to keep an eye
on there. That is I think almost unprecedented. I believe
the record going back to about nineteen ninety nine is
(01:44:33):
fourteen offensive lineman in a season, So we'll keep an
eye on that. But the big breaking news this morning,
Hassan Reddick is back with the New York Jets, the
NFL's last remaining long holdout, has agreed to a reworked
contract and will report to the team on Monday. He's
apparently settled on a short term deal. He had been
(01:44:54):
hoping for a long term deal in the future. More
injuries and starts to go. Cooper is out the Rams
wide receiver dealing with an ankle injury. It does not
look like he will be playing versus the Raiders. Aaron Jones,
running back for the Minnesota Vikings, is slated to play however,
against the Detroit Lions, so a little reinforcement there. Deontay
(01:45:16):
Johnson missed Wednesday and Thursday practice and was limited on Friday.
The injury report added ribs and hamstring to his injuries,
but apparently he is trending towards a go for the
for the Panthers. The Jets and Steelers are apparently in
talks to trade for wide receiver Mike Williams from the
New York Jets, but those talks are now tabled until
(01:45:38):
next week as both those teams will be playing each
other today. Titans are starting Mason Rudolph under center as
their usual starting quarterback. Will Levis is out for this game,
still dealing with that shoulder injury, and Dolphins quarterback to
a Tongue of Ailoa is set to report next week.
His twenty one day practice window is opening, so he'll
(01:46:00):
be back practicing on Wednesday, not for this weekend for
the Dolphins, but soon in the future they could be
getting to a back He has not played since Week
two when he suffered a concussion, and Marcus Valdez Scanceling
is flying out to New Orleans. The former Bills wide
receiver is slated to have a workout and physical with
the team and maybe getting some relief after the New
(01:46:25):
Orleans suffered a good number of injuries. Quick notes from
last night in sports, Juan Soto three run home run
was the deciding factors The Yankees go back to the
World Series first time since two thousand and nine. They
are awaiting the winner of Dodgers and Mets. Dodgers of Mets,
of course, played later today. Texas felt Georgia thirty to
fifteen in college football. A controversial reversed PI call before
(01:46:49):
that saw trash rained onto the field from the Texas
student section. The reverse PI call earned the umbrage of
Georgia coach Kirby Smart, but Georgia survives there takes down
number one Texas and in hockey in real quick hockey
because I know Andy loves hockey, cracking two one Jordan
every overtime goal, first loss for Calgary.
Speaker 4 (01:47:11):
Back to you guys, there you go at Chris Burfett
where you find him there, see all this stuff, Pride
to Detroit. He wanted to. I don't think he had
a soccer score for you yet, Andy, he earlier. Okay,
just so we make sure we check all the boxes. Here,
it's a Fox Football Sunday or Football Sunday as it were.
Welcome back into the tire Act dot Com, Fox Sports
(01:47:33):
Radio Studios. There's Andy, that's Jason. I'm michae Let's get
another game in Chief said, Yes, let's get it on
Super Bowl rematch. Everybody's fired up. All the questions of
will the Chiefs find themselves a wide receiver along the way.
Remember they're still undefeated. Forty seven is the total. Forty
nine Ers a narrow two point favorite in this one.
(01:47:55):
The big question for the Chiefs defense can they stop
George Kittle. They've been estimated by opposing tight ends. Kittle
killing it right now, twenty eight catches on the year,
nearly three hundred yards already five scores for the forty
nine ers. Trying to figure out how to get the
other receivers on track. In IUK, he's still without a touchdown,
catch on the ear and Deebo just twenty catches thus
(01:48:18):
far for the Chiefs. We've talked about trying to find
more help in the receiving corps. The last note from
San Francisco. Jennings is out with the hip injury. Kareem
Hunt came back four point two yards per Carrey. Looks
like he's the bell cow right now. Travis Kelcey, after
shaking off his see what I did there, shaking off
his summer tour work is getting after it. You look,
(01:48:41):
get at a couple of great defenses in a big
spot coming out of a bi week. We know what
Andy Reid usually does, and here's a giant test for him.
Jason Fitz, we start with you.
Speaker 3 (01:48:52):
Yeah, I hammer the over on this for me, and
I'll say this, this is the damned. If you do
damned if you don't bowl for San Francisco. If they win,
everybody's gonna say, oh, it doesn't matter until they do
it in the Super Bowl. They gotta get over the hump,
and if they lose, it's god. They just can't get
over Kansas City. But let's just be real, let's change
the conversation block for tomorrow already.
Speaker 5 (01:49:12):
How dared?
Speaker 3 (01:49:12):
Yeah, I'm done. I'm done. If we've got it all
figured out. You know, if brock Purty plays lights out,
it'll be well, I still need to see more. It's
all shine ahand and and brock Perty plays poorly, it'll
be all party. Just isn't the answer. They don't really
have a fifty five million dollar quarterback, like we're just
so dug in on all of this. Realistically, I think
the fact that San Francisco has managed to tread water
with the injuries they've had has really been substantial. They
(01:49:34):
are a very good football team. I don't care what
the record says, but the fact is, I really loved
what you said at the beginning of that setup. We
are talking about the Chiefs and how broken they are,
and they are undefeated the end of the day. This
is what we know. Kansas City keeps every game close.
And what we also know is that Patrick Mahomes record
in close games is gross. It's so good. So the
only way that you're gonna beat them is to beat
(01:49:56):
the best coach in the best quarterback, and the best
defensive coordinator in a close foot That is a tall
ask for anybody. I don't understand how Kansas City does it.
Every week. But they just damn do so that's all
I care about At this point.
Speaker 2 (01:50:07):
I would say this instead of like wasting your time
on this breakdown of positions and stats, don't The bottom
line is this, don't bet against the Kansas City Chiefs.
You just don't do it good perfect Wait, they're a
perfect five and oh. They've only outscored their opponents by
thirty three points, which is the lowest point differential. But
any team that's five and oh in the league since
(01:50:29):
maybe way back, since they will play with leather helmets.
They're five and oh though. But here's the deal. Forget
about the demise of they're so coled, demise of their
tight end, Travis Kelsey.
Speaker 4 (01:50:39):
He's back.
Speaker 2 (01:50:39):
He's more like himself, and he's a bigger part of
the offense and he will be today. Why Rashie Rice
is gone, he's signed with the broken leg. And if
they double team Rice, they now have a Juju Smith
Schuster who can make the big play as well. Don't
bet against the cheese.
Speaker 4 (01:50:54):
Please, nicely done, And that that's one to grow on.
That was a better political message anything I've seen interrupting
my sports day. He's Andy Furman and he approves this
message paid for by paid for by.
Speaker 3 (01:51:09):
The Fox Sports.
Speaker 4 (01:51:11):
Nicely done. There you go, and Andy Ferman FSR where
you find him on Twitter five Jason at Jason Fitz
find me over at Swollen Do we have two more
games to get to. We thank our guys Mark and
Shay getting up with us, and of course Chris Burfett
over at the news desk with us this morning, and
all of you being being with us wherever you may be.
(01:51:31):
We got two left, including I mean there, we got
more Monday night football. It's a veritable smorgas board.
Speaker 2 (01:51:37):
I hate gonna have two games on Monday, and I
put on on Tuesday. Put it on Tuesday. Spread it out,
spread the wealth, soon, spreadit.
Speaker 4 (01:51:44):
Andy, Andy, soon enough. This is like the symbiote in venom,
It spread slowly, or the thing if you want to
go to horror classic.
Speaker 2 (01:51:54):
Like the measles, Its spread slowly, the measles.
Speaker 4 (01:51:57):
I go sci Fi. He's talking about can muticable diseases?
What's he doing to me here, Fitz.
Speaker 3 (01:52:04):
I'll stick on the thing. I'm more of a guy
than a communicable giving.
Speaker 4 (01:52:08):
Keith David, I'm giving you, Kurt Russell. Let's get the
measles flowing again.
Speaker 3 (01:52:14):
I'll take it and I'll raise your toxic avenger. But
go ahead, go.
Speaker 4 (01:52:18):
Nicely done. Hey, I saw someone teasing the classic Hobo
with a shotgun Rug Howard movie. So we got all
of it mixed therein there you go. We've just given
you several films to watch, and I went and saw
one last night. I'll give you a thirty second review
as we continue on Fox Football Sunday. Hey, welcome back
(01:52:39):
in Fox Football Sunday, Fox Sports Radio Mike Carbon alongside
broadcasting legend our guy Andy fermanad Andy Furman FSR. See
everything he's got going on there, Radio appearances, newspaper columns.
He got it all poppin', maybe some promotions as well.
Can we get someone to race a horse in twenty
(01:52:59):
two twenty four?
Speaker 2 (01:53:01):
Who's worth won't do it anymore? Is too old?
Speaker 4 (01:53:04):
Well, we don't need him. We got we gotta find
a suitable substitute. There's plenty of wide receivers looking to
get the get their handout, to get some attention.
Speaker 2 (01:53:11):
I may go after Jamar in Cincinnati.
Speaker 4 (01:53:13):
Okay, we'll see what he wants. I'll help with the
letter writing campaign. How about that let's get it on
all and he find Jason Fitz. He does his work
over at Yahoo, and you hear him one of the
fellas on Saturday mornings here at Fox Sports Radio at
Jason Fitz where you find him on Twitter, find me
yelling at Jason Smith. We'll see how much is Mets
related after tonight, and then of course Jets football on Monday,
(01:53:37):
Ray for mojo. As it were, we got two more
games to go, so let's get back into that.
Speaker 1 (01:53:40):
Including Buccaneers.
Speaker 3 (01:53:43):
Here we go.
Speaker 4 (01:53:44):
Now we're talking right here, all right. Forty nine and
a half is the total. Ravens a three and a
half point favorite. Behind the run game, two hundred and
five rushing yards per game, Derrick Henry fout to youth, Hey,
who knew all you had to do was get away
from the Titans and the Arthur Smith experience from years ago.
(01:54:05):
So all of that to say, he's getting it done.
And you're looking at fourth scoring offense nearly thirty points
per game. Defensively, they can be had giving up nearly
twenty five per game. So that's the curiosity here, Flowers
and Bateman, your leaders. Of course, everybody, for fantasy purposes
loves himselves some likely, and hoping that Mark Andrews becomes
(01:54:25):
more than just a pancake blocker. On the other side,
Tom Brady's showing love to Baker Mayfield. Now it's like
throwing out a giant olive branch. Mike Evans was a
game time decision, according to his coach, and then hours
later it was updated too. No, he'll be just fine,
and he was taking off the injury report. Godwin seventh
most targets in the NFL thus far, and then a
running back by committee. Sorry, fantasy owners, it's Tucker, Tucker,
(01:54:47):
it's white, it's irving. And if you like overs, what
did I say, forty nine and a half, it's hit
in five of six Baltimore games and four of six
Tampa games.
Speaker 2 (01:54:57):
Andy First, Dibbs, I tell you what. This is a
great game, and I tell you why. First of all,
the storyline that we should talk about is that they've
got two Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks playing Baker Mayfield and
Lamar Jacks bat one number two. It's gonna be a
lot of scoring. And you mentioned forty nine and a half.
Ravens lead the league with twenty one offensive touchdowns. The
Tampa Bay Bucks have twenty today.
Speaker 3 (01:55:17):
You go.
Speaker 2 (01:55:18):
But here's the key I think of this game. The
Ravens defense is only giving a fifty nine yards on
the ground per game. That's the key right there. They're
gonna stop them. This Baltimore team is tough, Baltimore team
has a great balance on offense, tremendous defense. Baltimore will
win this game. And I like the Baltimore Ravens. And
I hate to say that because I'm a Bengals fan
and I don't want to see the divisional teams win,
(01:55:40):
but they will win.
Speaker 3 (01:55:42):
I just love saying hammer the over apparently today, keep
hammering over. Yeah. I don't trust either of these defenses
on anything. And this is the thing, like I just
I know that there's been success by Tampa Bay's defense
against good running backs. This Year's happened a couple of times.
So some betters out there are saying, be cautious on
Derek Henry. I'm not cautious on anything. I don't know
how you stop this Ravens offense consistently. I've been saying
(01:56:05):
this all year. Realistically, the thing that makes them impossible
to stop is that not only can their running back
crush you, but their quarterback can run when he wants to.
They've got They're so good offensively right now at disguising
what they're doing that they don't even need a two
time NFL MVP to be great to win football games.
And to me, it's all about the chess match of
their tight ends. Their tight ends block like maniacs, but
(01:56:26):
also in that blocking formation can step out and catch balls.
So if you really want to try and commit to
stopping the run, you are going to be susceptible to
Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews taking you down in the
passing game. It's just it creates too many variables. I
think the Ravens by the end of the year are
the toughest offense in the NFL to stop. I think
they have a very real shot at the Super Bowl,
and I think they win this game. That being said,
(01:56:46):
Tampa Bay is no slouch. I want to give them
a ton of credit. It's just this is just points, points, points,
points everywhere.
Speaker 4 (01:56:52):
Don't tell them short, They're a tremendous slouch, all right.
Daddy Shack wins Dereck Henry line for the day eighty
three and a half yards rushing For those looking for
a little bit of play within the games themselves. All right,
we got one last.
Speaker 1 (01:57:05):
One Chargers at Cardinals.
Speaker 4 (01:57:08):
Yeah, forty four and a half is the total. It's
gonna be a slog fest. That's how Jim Harbaugh likes it.
They're a narrow favorite on the road going up against
Kyler Murray. He'll get Marvin Harrison Junior back cleared protocol
seventeen catches on thirty seven targets for the year. McBride
their leading receiver thus far, but he's not found the
end zone. See if that changes against a very stingy
(01:57:30):
Chargers defense. They're first in the NFL guys thirteen point
two points per game. Everybody wants to point to yards
as telling you you're the best defense. I don't care
how many yards you get. How many points do you allow,
that's all that matters. The problem is they also don't
score very well. They only scored an eighteen point two clip.
It's still greater than thirteen point two, which is great.
(01:57:51):
And we've seen the ineffectiveness at times, the curiosity that
is the Arizona offense. I think the pass rush of
the Chargers make today a long, long day. But we'll
start with you Andy, what do you think.
Speaker 2 (01:58:03):
I tell you what. Justin Herbert right now looks like
he's healthy because last week he had a season high
in passing you guys to thirty seven as well as completions.
I just think that overall, the Charges are a better
team and the Cardinals a lot more inconsistent and one
of the key stats in this game, the Chargers have
not allowed a single point off turnovers, which is a
tremendous thing on the defensive part of football. So I
(01:58:25):
like the Charges. I think the Charges are better Kyler Murray.
I don't know where he's at. I know what kind
of game you get from him on a Sunday basis,
You just don't know. So I think the more consistent
team and the better team together offensively and defensively are
the Charges.
Speaker 3 (01:58:39):
I think those Chargers defensive numbers are a bit of
a mirage only because they've taken on the Raiders trash offense,
the Panthers trash offense, the Steelers trash offense, the Broncos
trash offense. Like, let's just let's call it like it
is at this point. They did take on the Chiefs, who,
you know, frankly not the offense we're used to. I
don't think the Chargers have really been tested. That being said,
I do think you're right. The Cardinals don't really have
(01:59:00):
an identity. I don't even know how to fix what's
wrong with Arizona right now. It looked good for a second.
It doesn't look good now. But I do think I
think Marvin Harrison eats This is a close game For
me in this one. I'm actually leaning Cardinals top set.
Speaker 4 (01:59:12):
Look at you, really, I like chaos. I think this
could be a field goal kicking contest when it's all
said and down, that'd be so terrible. So at least
they're not college kickers, so the opportunity does make itself possible.
What we've seen the fifty plus super tow effect in
the NFL. And Andy Furman FSR is where you find him.
(01:59:34):
Find Jason over at Jason Fitz. Long slate of game
starts in about a half hour, and you got plenty
of time to get some egg whites and turkey bacon together.
Speaker 3 (01:59:43):
He just took the turkey bacon longer. It's better when
it's a little there you go.
Speaker 4 (01:59:48):
We'll get some extra fat in the fryar for you.
Jason Fitz and I continue next year. It's Fox Football
Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. Oh yeah, maybe another hour
of greatness here Fox Sports Radio, Fox Football Sunday. Half
hour to kickoff in London as we get ready for
Jaguars Patriots. Former NFL coach Allegend chiming out on everything
(02:00:12):
going on with the Jaguars. We'll do that in a moment,
but first we're broadcasting a lot for the tyrack dot
com Fox Sports Radio Studios tire rack dot com. We'll
help you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection, over ten thousand recommended installers tyrac
dot com. The way tire buying should be. If you
can't find a sporting event to watch that you like today,
(02:00:35):
you just quit. Just go hike, You go find yourself
a mountain line. We've already got action in the Premier
League underway. There's golf, there's the NWSL our Guy Isaac
lowancronell be on with Angels City later on today, and
then he'll follow that up with Chargers Beat tomorrow in
their Monday night affair. We got a full sleight of
(02:00:56):
NFL action. We've got the WNBA Finals Game five. We've
got Game six of the NLCS from Dodger Stadium, the
Mets trying to force a Game seven. We'll see bullpen
game and Manaiah and my guy Jason Smith will be
on the scene, so no doubt I will get a
litany of text about the game and whatever he's consuming
(02:01:19):
from he and his wife later on. I'm sure I've
missed high A LII and a million other things, your kids, sports,
wherever you may be. But Jason Fitz, if you can't
find something on the television, you know, if you go
to the local watering hole and say, hey, I'd like this,
it's just not for you. It's time to hang it up.
Speaker 3 (02:01:39):
Can I pull up a soapbox and stand on it
for a second? Hit me. This is why, as somebody
that has been an ardent, longtime supporter of the WNBA,
I think they have made some of the dumbest decisions
they and their broadcast.
Speaker 4 (02:01:53):
Oh it's been a very difficult, dumbest.
Speaker 3 (02:01:55):
Like there is a part of me, and you know,
for anyone that doesn't remember, obviously, I was the ESPN
Radio before this and worked for years with Sarah Spain.
And when I first started working with Sarah, she made
it abundantly clear we were going to cover the W
and so I dove into it starting in twenty eighteen.
I've been, you know, covering it at some level for
a long time on radio, talking a lot about it,
(02:02:16):
and I've been a supporter of the league for a
long time. So I say this as someone that's coming
in with the mindset of a supporter. It is absolutely
ignorant to have put Game five of your final the
last game. You know, the two best words in sports,
Game five apparently in the W but for the last time.
The Championship Round will be five games. Game five is tonight,
(02:02:36):
And I don't I just don't know how the league
could look at the schedule, the calendar, everything that we
already knew was possibly going to be here, and say,
you know what's a smart thing, Let's go ahead and
put the clinching game the best night in our sport
for the entire season, against Sunday night football. Let's go
ahead and do that in the middle of all of
this chaos. Like, I just cannot understand how, with all
(02:02:59):
the options we are forced to sit here and decide
between Maybe they couldn't anticipate some of the baseball calendar maybe,
but my god, how you didn't put these games on
a Tuesday or Wednesday when you knew that you were
out of the way of everything else was already asinine
to have this series end tonight in a way that
is just going to be scratching and clawing for viewers.
(02:03:19):
It'll get fine numbers, but the opportunity for growth just
wasn't capitalized on. Shame on the WNBA for wasting this.
Speaker 4 (02:03:27):
Now, on the plus side, it is actually on the
big four letter, right, it is actually on ESPN as
opposed to where it's been at times buried as well. Yeah, right,
where you've had to look and look with all the partners,
with as much information free flowing as we have. Now,
if you say I can't find it, then you're really
(02:03:49):
just not trying much like finding something that you want
to watch. Just give it the old college effort. It'll
show up on your app. Right, just say I'm interested
in this stuff. It'll set a reminder. Trust me, I
did that for one thing with the ESPN app, and
now I'm advised about anything that happens to where it's
(02:04:09):
the middle of the night and things are bleeping, I'm like,
I don't care about that news update, but I appreciate
that you thought on money. Thank you. It's like another
alarm going off as hey, reminder, this guy may or
may not play. I'm like, no, that's not an update,
but you've hit push. What am I gonna do? Liberty
five and a half point favorites the over one hundred
and fifty six point five in this one money line
(02:04:31):
links plus Doe twenty.
Speaker 3 (02:04:33):
This series has been by the way, I can't believe everybody.
Calm down, everybody. We'll get back to football in a second.
This series has been absolutely incredible. It's been up and
the other part of it is thank god, you know.
And I had some hanging out with some friends watching
the last game, and I said this earlier, like there
was this great decision for the friend group unt where
we're gonna watch baseball that some people want to watch
(02:04:55):
the w We were going back and forth. We only
had one TV available. We were trying to figure it out.
But it it's funny to me that Mike, my god,
thank god they didn't have Caitlin in the finals, because
we all know the numbers would be even bigger. But
you've got you've got a matchup here that's been really riveting.
And while they'll they'll tie out the record numbers for
the w NB Finals every time they do it, I
just throw up in my mouth a little bit at
(02:05:16):
what it could have been if they had properly scheduled
these games. Again, shame on everybody.
Speaker 4 (02:05:21):
Well, you're just trying to figure out window and certainly
Sunday against the big time proponents. You know here that
we have the brands in the NFL. It's it's not
gonna work. But yeah, the chaos theory of what would
have happened had the Indiana Fever still been playing, I'd
be curious to see what that number might have been
against an NFL game and an n NLCS on Fox
(02:05:46):
game six Los Angeles and New York. I'm intrigued. I'm
intrigued astel as to whatever this pulls. But to your point,
it's been a fantastic series. A lot of arguing about
the referees, some calls made. I'm not I'd ask you
looking for the I'm truly a superstar call. Despite an
obvious fall in the final two seconds of Game four,
(02:06:09):
send to the line, although she gave us six excitement
with that last second heave that goes off the backboard,
falling harmlessly to the ground. But there you have it.
We've got a game five later on to add to
your Sports morgasboard. Just keep adding more devices to your network.
Before it's all said and done, you'll look like you're
(02:06:30):
tracking Santa for nor Ad with the number of monitors
you have going their fits. This game coming up in
twenty minutes, Bill Belichick decided he needed to chime in.
He was on the Let's Go podcast talking about Doug
Peterson's reflections on his time there with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
We know he may be the next man walking the plank.
(02:06:52):
It's a short list. Dennis Allen after the shellacking he
took from a really not very good Broncos team. Now
they're hurt.
Speaker 3 (02:07:01):
I get it.
Speaker 4 (02:07:01):
Injuries happen. There was lack of effort. It seemed down time.
And I'm not saying that alone. Richard Sherman and a
bunch of x NFL athletes put it up there, so
I'll uh, I'll say, all right, that's what it looked
like to my you know, Novice and you know, just
radio host I in terms of what the Saints put.
(02:07:22):
But for Peterson, he made a thing about a culture
change being needed, to which Belichick responded this, I'm not
sure what he meant by that. Maybe that's a change
in prep or practice or I'm not sure, but I
kind of like to know what he wants, what he means.
It's not his first year. This is what they've established,
so I'm not sure what that means. But clearly things
(02:07:42):
aren't going well. They need something to be more competitive,
and he keeps going on from there. Last week they
had four would be touchdowns against the Bears, dropped much
different game if Gave Davis comes down with that one early. Instead,
they're chasing, and that defense, which is suspect, got absolutely
picked apart by Waldron, Caleb Williams and the Bears offense.
(02:08:05):
And now you have this next test against Drake May
who showed he's he's willing to keep firing behind a
bad offensive line, as we outlined a little bit earlier,
with the number of combos that run it out there, Jason,
but you know, opportunity here for the final straw for
shot gone.
Speaker 3 (02:08:23):
Yeah. And it's funny to me because Belichick saying, hey,
it's not your first year, so I'll go back to
you know, Kenny Rogers, the great Kenny.
Speaker 4 (02:08:30):
Rodgers' nicely done whenever you can.
Speaker 3 (02:08:32):
Yeah, yeah, See, he's the most one of the most
incredible people I ever had the chance to be on
a tour with. And it was years ago with the
man that Never made it, and we opened for Kenny
for a while and Kenny was amazing. But one thing
Kenny always said that I thought, you know, we always
hear perception is reality, but Kenny took it a step farther.
He always used to say, perceptions the only reality that matters,
(02:08:53):
because you helped create whatever that perception is, and now
you have to live in it. And I think about
that a lot when we, you know, take the extra
step of saying, whatever it is right now, I helped
create whatever the culture problem is that they need to fix.
Doug Peterson was part of creating. At this point, like
he's been there long enough that this is his culture.
Speaker 4 (02:09:12):
Well, this is an urban Meyer's tenure anymore, that's long
in theory been destroyed.
Speaker 3 (02:09:18):
He's had the opportunity. And we always hear that for coaches,
like day one, it's like we're gonna, you know, the
first time the next time we hear a coach say
we're gonna be soft and we're barely gonna score. Will
be the first time. It's always like, we're gonna play
tough football, and you know, we're going to control the
line of scrimmage, We're gonna come every day to work.
It's like, okay, all these football isms, but the fact
is the Jags are broken, and I think an owner
(02:09:39):
that was probably more invested, more involved day in and
day out, would have already seen that they're broken. I'm
a little surprised that Peterson still has a job, and
I'm surprised that they've managed to wreck Trevor Lawrence because
I don't feel like he's any good at this point.
And you know, I'm looking at the Patriots thinking, man,
this is a great opportunity. Drake may played well enough.
I don't love the Patriots, but I hate the Jags
(02:10:01):
defense At this point. I absolutely do not like anything
about the Jabs Jags defensively and then offensively, I don't.
I just don't trust him. So the Jags are completely
broken and now they're looking at a restart all over again.
I just this is this is painful for Jags fans
because they're already even when they're good. The Jags teeter
on the the just the outskirts of being irrelevant in
(02:10:24):
the national conversation. When they're bad, it's just even worse.
Speaker 4 (02:10:28):
Yeah, was looking for a rebound right because they got
off the hook last year because the Eagles collapse was
so bad. So since the Jaguars we talked about it
a bunch. I'm not sure how much else nationally it
really rated, because look, people don't want to admit that
they might have been wrong about you know, generational, generational.
(02:10:48):
We can't have a generational quarterback every year. We need
to stop that nonsense. I get it, they're the next
guy up. But for Trevor Lawrence, his accuracy has been bad.
Last last week finally really good. And guess what receivers
weren't expecting it to the two and four drop touchdown passes,
which means they're not great either. But all that to say,
(02:11:10):
you've got a squad how many defensive players. I've never
seen so many guys get in front of a microphone
to talk about their lack of effort in a game.
They couldn't wait to get to the beat reporters that
were overseas to talk about how bad things were, so
I don't know if that spurs them to some grand
effort this week, because if it does, it would be
(02:11:31):
the first time in seven weeks that we see it, right,
because their defensive line hasn't given them any kind of
pressure to work with and against a new England offensive
line that's been a turnstile. He say, all right, this
is the opportunity, but I need to see it in practice, right,
I need to see it, you know, the proof on
the field that that can actually happen to save their secondary.
(02:11:53):
And I don't see it. I think to Mario Douglas
is gonna have himself a day, Fantasy owners. I think
Hunter Henry is gonna have himself a day. Antonio Gibson,
because he hangs on to the football, we'll have himself
a day. Sorry, Remondre Stevenson owners, I had to do
with time.
Speaker 3 (02:12:08):
Yeah, no, as a Romondra Stevens said, all right, I
really appreciate that you're right about everything you said. And
by the way, I it God, it just it makes
me just so angry when players come out afterwards and
it's like, well, you know, the effort just wasn't there.
Speaker 4 (02:12:23):
Why why you saw it going south? How did you
not stop the slide?
Speaker 3 (02:12:28):
At what point did you not say all week? Hey, guys,
it's just not You know, how often do we see, well,
we just weren't charged up enough this week, and you know,
guys weren't hitting the way we need to. We need
to really kick it in gear next week. The season
is so limited, you have so few games. I understand.
I genuinely do a baseball game or an NBA game,
or a hockey game, like if you if you come
(02:12:49):
into one of those other sports, it's a marathon and
you say, man, the guys just didn't have it last night. Okay,
there's one hundred and sixty of these things. Of course
they didn't have it that night. There are only seventeen
opportunities to stand on a field like you. Just I
don't understand in the NFL, particularly just that day, where
it's like, man, we got out efforted today. That's the controllable.
The one thing you can control is are you working
(02:13:11):
your ass off every single day to be the like?
Are you bringing your best every day? And if the
answer is no, in a football season that is far
shorter than other major sports, that just drives me crazy.
And you don't get to tell me on Monday that
the effort wasn't good on Sunday and then have me
buy that it's going to be fixed next week. If
you felt that, there should have been a man in
the room, an adult in the room somewhere that stands
(02:13:32):
up and says, guys, we don't have it this week,
fix it. We need to have it right now. And
the fact that you tell me that afterwards, you don't
get to interrears, tell me that suddenly we're going to
bring the effort next week without telling me why you
didn't last week.
Speaker 4 (02:13:43):
Yeah, you don't get to hang around in the National
Football League, right. The joke is always the not for
long efforts. The one thing that if that suddenly is
the thing that you're being questioned on in your seventeen
game tryout for the thirty two teams, including the one
that you're on. Yeah, you're probably gonna find yourself working
in another job pretty fast, because that's just not gonna
(02:14:06):
play at Jason Fitz where you find him in the twitterverse,
find me over at Swollen Dome. As we continue, we
got countdown to kickoff here coming up in forty five minutes.
Presented by bet MGM so all the live in game
betting for this one and the full slate ahead. But
we've got the rest of the NFL slate that we
want to get to a little bit. Tua returning to
(02:14:26):
practice perhaps this week, and more quarterbacks shuffling trying to
find the magical elixir. As we roll through, we'll talk
about that and the trades that went down this week,
how big an impact they'll have. All that and more
coming up. It's Fox Football Sunday. It's Fox Sports Radio.
Welcome back in. It's Fox Football Sunday. Fox Sports a
(02:14:47):
Radio having a blaster here. It's my carbon Jason Fitz
with you here. Bucky Brooks normally with me this time
of day on a Sunday. He's on assignment. He's got
a game starting in seven minutes.
Speaker 3 (02:14:58):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (02:14:59):
Final calls for your fantasy lineups and your picks as
the Jaguars and Patriots get set to play here in
just a couple of minutes. We've already got action on
the pitch in the Premier League. Yeah, it's a beautiful Sunday.
Thanks for being with us here on Fox Sports Radio.
We've got you covered all the way through. Yeah, twenty
four to seven live and in living color, and football
(02:15:19):
fans remember coming up in thirty five minutes here Fox
Sports Radio, and in every Sunday morning beginning ten am Eastern,
seven o'clock Pacific, it's Countdown to Kickoff, presented by BETMGM,
Brian No, Jeff Schwartz, Professional better Bill Krackenberger. They've got
you covered. Three hours before kickoff. Every Sunday morning, you
can listen to Countdown to Kickoff presented by BETMGM. Right here,
it's Fox Sports Radio. And of course take us with
(02:15:42):
you always on the iHeart Radio app. Holiday seasons coming,
Jason Fitz always say pull out the crans like you're
a little kid. Everybody loves a hand drawn card. And
then just put the link to the iHeartRadio app or
grab their device if you're in a room with them,
and say here, let me give you the greatest gift
see iHeartRadio App. And you know what it costs you
(02:16:02):
a couple of minutes of your time and a little
bit of love monetarily casting you nothing.
Speaker 3 (02:16:08):
Are we are we making cards from scratch?
Speaker 4 (02:16:10):
Like, no, that's what we do.
Speaker 3 (02:16:11):
Yeah, okay, I'm gonna be honest with you. You know,
when I was a kid. I think it was sixth grade.
I'd already played Carnegie Hall, I'd already gotten into Juliart
child producty. Let's just humble bag for a second. There
you go. But I would to take a I was
taken a public, you know, public school. Also at the
same time, I was taking a like a music class,
and I got docked on the grade and my mom
(02:16:32):
went in for the parent teacher conference to figure out
why I was doing so poorly in it. And just
because they did these composer series and part of it
was like arts, you had to like color in these
pictures of different composers, and I can't color in the lines.
I couldn't as a kid. I still can't. Like I
just I'm not good at this. I like coloring is
bad for me. So if I made you a card
and I had to color with crowns, I'm gonna be honest,
you would look at it and think that I had,
(02:16:53):
like a child do it that wasn't particularly artistically inclined.
So does it still? Do I still get any street
credit if I send you a card that I've colored
by hand and it looks like a you know, a
not so talented child did it.
Speaker 4 (02:17:06):
Yeah, but you've been into plenty of museums through your travels.
I'm sure you know when you're on tour especially No,
but that's the point is that you look on the
walls and you just go nah. But it's the thought
that counts. Remember that people will take it. I don't
know if that's rue or not.
Speaker 3 (02:17:21):
They'll they'll be like, oh, this is amazing. He's creating
weird visual art and it's like, no, I just can't color.
This is amazing. Actually, now you're talking me into it.
Speaker 4 (02:17:30):
I was blessed. My kids are both lean that way.
I mean, they're more science kids as they've gotten older,
but they they leaned into the art projects and I
helped lead a lot of them at their school. So
I actually have tubs of their artwork that when they
actually do something substantive in the world, I'm ready. Here's
the first picture ever signed by my younger one when
(02:17:51):
she was four. Who wants it top bitter?
Speaker 3 (02:17:53):
Let's go look at that's actually smart? Like, instead of
collecting toys, I'm the worst because I do. I love me.
I love like, you know, vintage toys, like eighties toys
that I grew up with, and like funk O pops
and everything. I love toys because like we grew up with,
I grew up with nothing, so we couldn't really afford toys.
So like now as an adult, I have them everywhere.
I'm looking at a bookshelf across from me in the studio,
(02:18:15):
I do the show and it's filled with he Man
and WWE figures from when I was a kid, and
like aw A figures.
Speaker 4 (02:18:21):
All sorts of stuff, the A w A remcos Oh yeah, man,
do you have the wood ring? Because WWE they had
the plastic ring. The aw A one was actually a
block of wood and it was great where they were
stomping as you were like, yeah, it was the best.
Speaker 3 (02:18:40):
But the funny, you know, I'm cheap, so like you know,
the for example, everybody and we talk about this all
the time, but my love of what was then the
midnight Rockers, the Remco aw A Midnight Rockers are wildly
expensive on eBay, so I just I had somebody go
out and do custom knockoffs. It don't cost me a
fraction of the cost and they look the same, so
you know, I custom knock off. But that's what makes
(02:19:01):
me the worst with all these things like you're holding
artwork for value. I was at a at a comic
con a few years ago and there was a limited
edition like Transformers thing that was made and I really
liked it, and I bought it and I loved it,
and it wasn't like that expensive, but I loved it.
And the first thing I did in the booth is
I ripped it out of the box like the child
I am, and I just looked at the figure, and
(02:19:23):
I looked around and everybody was looking at me with
horror on their faces because I had just ripped it
out of the box, and I looked at all of
them like, y'all, I'm not going to keep this on
a shelf, like when I buy toys. I buy toys
to play with.
Speaker 4 (02:19:34):
Well, but then there was one guy over on the
side going, there's one fewer on open copy.
Speaker 3 (02:19:38):
Mike.
Speaker 4 (02:19:38):
Price just goes.
Speaker 3 (02:19:40):
Up, yeah, like and then everybody sits there and says,
if I had just kept the toys from when I
was a child, I'd be rich now. And it's like,
who does that? Who? What are you gonna buy two
of everything and then keep one in the box for
the rest of your life? Who has the storage space
for that?
Speaker 4 (02:19:52):
That's not insterstic. Yeah, I've got all the mountains of
baseball and football cards. We'll be dealing with those a
little bit later as I watch the games of the
day and the heroes of today unfold. And well, we've
got the national anthem being sung. So our football day
has now started, Jason Fitz. So we're underway. Chris perfetten
Is update earlier today. Gave us the note and I
(02:20:16):
saw it on the overnight, the Tu Tongue of Iloa
practice window opening, and now everybody will start doing the
handwringing of whether he should come back at all, to
which I say, he's a grown ass man. If he
and his doctors have decided he's ready to return to
a practice field and ultimately onto a game game field
(02:20:37):
on a Sunday, on a Monday, on a Thursday, whatever
day they're playing, that it's his decision to roll through.
I'll root for it, because look, comebacks or what we
root for in society, particularly with some of the injuries
that we've seen, because remember a lot of what we
don't there's a lot we don't know about what players
(02:20:58):
have done to their bodies and what they've been through,
what's been diagnosed what's not And for Tua, he's been
unfortunately the poster child of this because he's had two
very big traumatic instances on national prime time event based
watching kind of standalone games. So you root forward in
(02:21:21):
that respect for the guy to do what he loves.
So long is it, you know, the informed choice of
it all. But from Miami, man, we take it back
to the brass tacks of football. I mean, that's the
only way you're gonna get any return, fantasy or otherwise
out of the offense that you've built, because right now
that is a broken ship.
Speaker 3 (02:21:41):
Yeah. And by the way, everything you just said is
one of the million reasons I love working with you.
We see this so similarly in the sense that I
had the chance to talk to Talia to his brother
a while back, and in the process to talk to him,
asked about, you know, how he feels him playing football
and knowing the concussion issues his brother has and all
that stuff. And he made it so clear that Tua
(02:22:03):
talks to his doctors, talks to his family, they make
a decision together based on the medical information they have
on what they're comfortable with. And it's wild to me
how many people have been screaming and yelling, fans and
media and everybody along the way, screaming and yelling about
what a grown ass man should do. Like it is
his head, it's his brain, it's his health, and most importantly,
(02:22:24):
like everybody has a different reaction. I think about I've
got a friend who every time he stubs his toe,
you would think it's Peter Griffin, and it's just the
biggest thing in the entire world. I accidentally, during my
fitness journey a couple of months ago, I dropped a
weight on my big toe. It cracked and just annihilated
my toenail. I didn't even notice it for a day.
I was like, oh, yeah, that's broken off. That hurt.
(02:22:45):
Like so we're all different in our visceral reactions to things.
It is fully possible Tua has a big physical reaction
to concussions that make it look really bad, But that
doesn't mean that it's any worse than the offensive And
we're not talking about that's had multiple concussions, right, Like,
concussion protocol is handled very seriously by the league and
(02:23:06):
very seriously by modern players. If he sits down with
this doctor and the Dolphins sit down with their team doctor,
and then Tuas sits down with this family, and the
family doctor who's not affiliated with any of this, turns
around and says, yeah, man, you're fine. If you want
to play, keep playing. It's up to him. Even if
the doctor says you're not fine, I wouldn't keep playing.
It's up to him. He's a grown man that can
make his own decisions. I don't know why all of
(02:23:26):
us suddenly we think it's our right to even have
this conversation about what he should do. It is his
right as a player to decide what he wants to do.
And you're also right, the Dolphins don't stand a chance.
They may not win another game this season without him.
So if you're the Dolphins and you're stepping back saying
hey to I'm not going to tell you what to
do if you want to come back, I'm not gonna
limit you, because if you're good with it, we need you.
(02:23:49):
Like I think all of that can be okay.
Speaker 4 (02:23:51):
By the way, just the old thought, even going back
to look, I stopped playing football pretty young, couple of injuries.
I'm a fire plug. I'm five foot nothing with no
foot speed, so I was done. But I realized at
a very early age that banging my head against another
person was not a good idea. So the idea that
folks have been running around with, oh man, they had
(02:24:15):
no idea this could be dangerous. Yeah, we might not
have had something a term to call it. But I
always thought that part of the argument was disingenuous, just like, hey, smoking,
it's just fine for me. If I smoked several packs
a day, that'll be just great. Yeah, No, it's it
just is incongruous to logical thinking that you know, there's
(02:24:38):
not going to be some effects from the physicality of
the game.
Speaker 3 (02:24:42):
I mean, there was a whole generation of athletes in
every sport and we were just talking about wrestling, a
whole generation of wrestlers that were just jabbing themselves with
steroids constantly. I think they didn't know that there were
probably long term effects. They don't care. There's a whole
generation right now, like toward all is the painkiller that
so many football players right now, and some choose not to.
And the funny thing is when a player chooses not to,
(02:25:03):
half the time, it's like, well he's got to toughen upe.
Like fans will sit there and be like, what do
you mean he's got a hamstring injury. And then the
same fan will turn around and be like, oh, but
it's brain, But it's brain, Like we pick and choose
what we actually care about.
Speaker 2 (02:25:14):
At selective outrage, baby.
Speaker 3 (02:25:17):
Like athletes are so informed at this point. They make
so much money, they have doctors everywhere, They are informed
on what they're doing. They choose to do what they do,
and that's up to them. That's up to each and
every one of them individually. I'm not here to judge
it one way or the other. I just I just
think it's stupid how much we suddenly sit here and
pretend like they have no idea what's going on. I
just we feel like we have to make these decisions
(02:25:39):
for grown adults that are better informed that oftentimes no
more than we'll ever they'll forget more than we'll ever
know about what they're going through. They didn't know exactly
what they're doing and exactly how they're doing it.
Speaker 4 (02:25:49):
That sounded like an anti government ran, Oh see what
I did there? No, I'm just kidding. As Jason fitz
at Jason fits on Twitter find me over at Swollen Dome,
you make your choices and you roll through. As in
the career of a professional athlete pretty short. We always
talk about it ripping the jersey off. Guys. The old
retirement is very long. Retirement is very long. So guys
(02:26:12):
are going to do everything they can to keep the
jersey and helmet on as long as they can.
Speaker 3 (02:26:17):
I'll say this quickly too. A few years ago there
was a study done the average life expectancy of a
touring musician is actually lower than the average life expectancy
of a former NFL player. Nobody ever sits there and says,
man can't be a musician who but certainly drugs, alcohol, suicide,
mental health, those are all things that have impacted and
as you know, one of my very very dear friends
(02:26:38):
that had tremendous success in the music business at the
highest possible level at an early age, said, for a
long time, everybody thinks, oh my god, I just want
to be young and rich. What do you do when
you're in your mid late twenties and you realize that
your career, by no choice of your own, is now
basically over. You have a lifetime worth the money, but
you have no idea what to do with it. You
have no idea what to do with your and everybody listening.
(02:27:00):
He says, I'd love to have that problem. Yeah, sure,
cool until you're in it, and then suddenly you've gone
from being in the top of the world to being
irrelevant in so many ways. You have money, but you
also like you got to figure out what you're doing
with your time and with your life, and you've committed
your whole life to doing this, and now it's been
taken away from you and you no longer have value
with the thing that you love. Everybody sits there and says,
I'd love to know what that problem is that they wouldn't.
(02:27:21):
It's just shoes. On the other foot, it's not the
easy life that people think. It's you know, the grass
always being greener. Hey, real quick, before we get over
to Isaac Loancron a couple of trades. We talked a
lot about the DeVante Adams deal to the Jets and
trying to spark that squad hasan reddick now coming back
to help on the defensive side, maybe surmount a little
(02:27:42):
more consistent pressure up front. But the Bills immediately counter
in the East by going out and getting Amari Cooper,
who'd been stranded on the island that is the world
of Cleveland and the continued forcing force feeding, and Kevin Stefanski,
the former Coach of the Year, is now I think
favored to be fired. Although how do you fire a
(02:28:02):
guy who you ordered the Code red and he's running
the Code red? I e.
Speaker 4 (02:28:06):
Deshaun Watson gives us the best chance to win. Amari
Cooper has been released from that purgatory and heads over
to Buffalo. So the offense gets a true number one
maybe the third down alongside the efficiency with Shakir. I'm
curious to see what Brady and Allen concoct for the
offense going forward in Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (02:28:27):
Yeah, and that third down portion of it is huge.
I believe that the devil in the details and the minutia.
At some point you've got to have a go to.
This is third and six, and I know what I'm doing,
and the great teams have some sort of a way
to figure that out constantly, whether it's Kelsey and Mahomes,
you know, we look at some of these it's third
and six. I need one guy to be able to
stand up and make that play. Who is that guy?
(02:28:49):
And the Bills answer to third and six is I'm
gonna hope and pray that Josh Allen can figure something out.
Now the answer is Amari Cooper, and he's never worked
with a quarterback as capable of making off schedule throws,
as capable of rolling out and extending plays. I think
this really revitalizes the next level of Amari Cooper. But
you know, I talked to somebody that coached to Mario
(02:29:09):
at the highest possible level, and I asked him why
is amar always so inconsistent? And the joking response I
got from that former coach was if I knew that,
I'd probably still be coaching. There is a level of
Amari that behind the scenes. The knock is if if
you say or do something in the locker room that
gets into his feels, he just checks out for the
week and you don't know how to get him back in.
So Josh Allen is a great manager of personalities. I
(02:29:32):
think he's gonna have to be that for a Mari.
But man, if they keep him engaged, I do think
this is the difference that really takes Buffalo to the
next level.
Speaker 4 (02:29:39):
Well see on display, they'll they'll play the Tennessee Titans. Cooper,
last I saw, was not expected to go or may
have a small package we'll keep an eye on that.
So he's out until next week. So we've got Buffalo
my nine point favorites against Tennessee the starting Mason Rudolph,
(02:30:02):
even though Will Levis had practiced and done a bunch
of things. So you have that certainly to ponder on
their side of what exactly their line of thinking is.
But they're irrelevant in the NFL conversation at the midpoint
of the season, so we will kick them aside. But
for Buffalo moving forward, the interesting chess match, and we'll
(02:30:23):
see what other pieces may be on the move as
we roll through. But now it's time to get over
to the update desk for a guy on the ins
and outs of our NFL Sunday. It's Isaac Lohenkron.
Speaker 10 (02:30:34):
Good morning, Fellas. Opening drive at Wembley Stadium in London.
The Patriots and Jaguars are scoreless with ten fifty two
left to play in the first quarter. Upcoming, New England's
got a third and three at the Jacksonville twenty seven
yard line. Patriots starting quarterback Drake May four for five
for forty one yards on this opening drive, and Fellas
(02:30:55):
people on social media thrilled by this matchup of one
in five teams, Robert posting, how is it not considered
a diplomatic offense to subject England to the Patriots and Jaguars?
Steak commenting quote, this is the worst thing we've done
to England since the American Revolution, and Mason perhaps summing
it up best quote, we're all sickos for waking up
(02:31:18):
early to watch this Patriots Jaguars game. Yes we are, Mason,
Yes we are speaking of waking up early. Earlier today,
New York Jets pass rusher Hassan Reddick ended his whold out.
According to his new agent, he's agreed to a reworked
short term contract that is now expected to report to
the Jets on Monday. In Game five of the American
(02:31:40):
League Championship Series Saturday night, Juan Soto's three run home
run with two outs of the top of the tenth
inning gave the Yankees a five to win over Cleveland.
The Yankees win the series four games to one. They
win their forty first American League pennant and their first
in fifteen years. And in college football, on Saturday night,
fifth ranth Georgia what at number one Texas to fifteen
(02:32:01):
number nine Iowa. Last bit of touchdown to best Central
Florida thirty eight to thirty five Iowa State seven and
zero for the first time since nineteen thirty eight. Fellas
back to you.
Speaker 4 (02:32:13):
Chaos across the college football world at Isaac Lohencron where
you find him. He's got the Angel City call later
on today. That's always a little extra bonus for you,
Jason Fitz Go and look at his timeline. Some of
the calls majestic, majestic stuff.
Speaker 3 (02:32:30):
He's got the voice for it too. Like there's just
certain guys that you hear them, You're like.
Speaker 4 (02:32:34):
Yeah, well, thank you, Jason.
Speaker 10 (02:32:36):
I didn't get into Juilliard though, I didn't know that.
Speaker 2 (02:32:38):
That's super cool.
Speaker 3 (02:32:39):
Yeah, Juilliard is. I was a fat hit to play
the violin. Let's not give any street crint to that. Like, no,
that was my you know, past life. Yes, but well
at ten and eleven, you know, I mean Carnie Hall
when I was ten years old, was I was back?
You know, I peaked musically in what for? I hit puberty.
But I will say this, it's like my voice sounds
(02:33:01):
like prepregestinent, pre you know what I'm saying, pre puberty child.
So like I don't stand a chance to do in
any of those things that sound cool with to my voice,
like I you know, distinct voice for radio is the
polite way that people condescendingly tell me that my voice
still cracks, like that's it, that's it.
Speaker 4 (02:33:15):
Anytime we can get a brady bunch of reference into
the show we do. When it's time to change, you
got to rearrange. And then you know, eventually in a
couple of years, you'll be back on tour and I'll
just be your roadie.
Speaker 3 (02:33:28):
No, no, it'll be great. I am. My touring days
are long. We have be like I, I sit here
and do radio in front of a wall full of
golden platinum records like a boss. That only remind me
I have no desire to live on a tour bus ever.
Speaker 4 (02:33:41):
Again, fair enough point taken. All right, We'll look for
the anthology and the book to come later on at
Jason Fitz where you find them on Twitter. Find me
over at Swollendome. As we continue here, it's Fox Football Sunday.
A couple more news items and notes to get through
at a couple more games to discuss as we get
ready for out down to kickoff. That'll kick off here
(02:34:02):
in twenty minutes with the guys on Fox Sports Radio.
Another cup is a cup of coffee or maybe less sleep,
and I try to hit the high note as we
come back here. It's Fox Football Sunday, Fox Sports Radio,
Mike Harbon, Jason Fits with you, remind your coup down
to kickoff presented by bet MGM coming up in ten
minutes from now, and Jason Fitz. They're all going to
(02:34:23):
be telling you about what do you do when you're
chasing seven after giving up a game opening touchdown. Here's
how it sounded.
Speaker 7 (02:34:30):
Chocolates snap to me, lookie what he tosses it to
a wide open hingstet right.
Speaker 2 (02:34:34):
Sideline, Piana cut.
Speaker 3 (02:34:35):
Look at the five to Michael.
Speaker 1 (02:34:37):
Comer c bar dodge a damn zone.
Speaker 3 (02:34:39):
Touchdown, Patriots.
Speaker 1 (02:34:42):
That's a hell of the read by the young quarterback on.
Speaker 5 (02:34:44):
The second start.
Speaker 4 (02:34:45):
There you go, as we get the Patriots radio on
the call, excited right off the jump. Drake May six
of seven sixty two yards and a touchdown against a disinterested,
ineffective Jaguars defense. Absolutely pathetic as hasty walks in a
(02:35:06):
bad effort by Hinz Allen formerly Josh Allen on the
effort where he thinks he's gonna run out of bounds
or something cuts back in and nobody bothers to meet
him at the goal line. Touchdown, Patriots their first opening
drive touchdown of the season. Jason Fitz, we were talking
about effort, talking about long holidays in Europe. Doug Peterson
(02:35:30):
is about fifty five minutes away from perhaps having one.
Speaker 3 (02:35:34):
I hope he flew the family over so they can
get a nice little trip after all this is done,
and celebrating his you know, contracts fully guaranteed, so good
for him, because you know when coaches, when coaches are
let go, we should stress it's not really about the
head coach whose contract is fully guaranteed. It's about everybody else,
and you know, everything all the way down to training
people that you know don't necessarily have the same livelihood
(02:35:56):
that are all impacted. So I joke about it, but
there's a here for the Patriots, and that is I. Honestly,
if I was New England, I've said all year I
wouldn't have played Drake May at all because I think
that roster is just a disaster around him. But he
has come in and looks sharp, and this is what
I think we're gonna have to get used to coming
out of college football because of NIL and the changes
and transfer portal eligibility rules. College football quarterbacks are older
(02:36:19):
than ever and they've played more football than ever. So
you got guys that are just a little bit more
experience coming into the league, that have a little bit
more mindset of what it takes to be a quarterback
in the league. And we're seeing it this year, Like,
it is so interesting to me, And you know, Drake's
only twenty two, but it is interesting to me that
across the board we've got this Caleb Jaden Drake. This
(02:36:40):
just looks like a home run of a draft class
so far. We don't even know what JJ's gonna look like.
We won't know what Michael Pennox is gonna look like
for a minute, But man, I just I think it.
Talent evaluators have an easier job at the quarterback position
than ever because they get more time to actually see
these guys before they come up.
Speaker 4 (02:36:55):
I'd sit, we talk about games played. I know, the
big conversation obviously over in Indianapolis. We talked about the
Miami side of things, with two potentially coming back here
in the next couple of weeks. The other side of
Week seven is Anthony Richardson playing I Know You and
Andy talked about it a little bit earlier on in
the wee hours of the morning here on the West Coast.
(02:37:17):
You can find the podcast wherever you find your audio downloaded.
Give it five stars, rate it, review it, send it
to friends and family. We'll love you forever. But to
that point, a very short sample size for Anthony Richardson
some of the other quarterbacks that get pressed into action
because of the great athleticism, but not necessarily the knowledge,
(02:37:38):
the depth of experience to why you know, Brock Purdy
becomes the poster child for playing your full college run
and getting into a proper system, proper of culture, as
it were, can get you to the promised Land. So
Drake May looked good last week, great opening drive, Jaguars
(02:37:59):
didn't look like they really wanted to play defense. Evan
Ingram two catches on this ensuing drive for the Jaguars,
which just ended in a punt. So May coming back
on the field. As we get deep into side the
first quarter, quick house keeping note, no Cooper Cup for
the Rams. They were hoping he'd be back. Amari Cooper
will have a debut with the Bills later. How much
(02:38:22):
he'll be used don't know, but he's good enough I
think for a back end number two or flex play
for the fantasy purposes. If you want to stick around,
I'll be happy to answer questions on Twitter at Swollen
Dome as we go. But Baltimore Tampa, because we're talking
about this draft class a lot. Jason Is twenty eighteen
looks a lot better in hindsight. We talked Josh Allen.
You've got the battle of Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson.
(02:38:44):
The only guy not playing meaningful football, Josh Rosen. Sorry,
you were the odd man out. You got screwed in Arizona.
That's the breaks, as they say, but multiple bites of
the apple. He's out. But that game on Monday is
one to to watch. You've got Carolina going up against
Washington and Daniels. They're an eight point favorite, fifty one
(02:39:06):
and a half or fifty two to the total. Detroit Minnesota,
I mean, limited resources. Where are your eyes drifting as
the packages go up?
Speaker 3 (02:39:15):
I think Detroit Minnesota teaches us the most. Minnesota is
just going to wreck every quarterback they go up against.
The season, or is Jared Goff going to be the
one that rex Minnesota and makes himself an MVP candidate.
I think that game has the most we can learn
from of any game this week.
Speaker 4 (02:39:29):
Yeah, curious on the Detroit defense side after the loss
of Hutchinson a week ago, the guys will have all
the insights from the gambling perspective coming up as you
look for an edge at the bar or in the
local leagues. He's Jason Fitz, I'm Mike Krmen. Thanks for listening.
