Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is Straight Fire with Jason McIntyre.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
What is up straight firefam, It's me Jason McIntyre, Straight
Fire for Friday, October twenty fifth. Oh what a night
Thursday night was. I hope your Thursday night was as
good as mine. Obviously, the RAMS covering was really good
for business. On the hurd, I gave out Rams money Line.
Didn't give that out on the podcast. It was just
(00:32):
a late thing. Once I saw that Puka was gonna go,
I was like, oh geez, all right, let me go
Rams money Line. And it was a good night. And
then of course of the Men's League regular season finale,
we're down our two bigs, no Richard Jefferson, No Richard Jefferson,
no former MVP my man Ben. And we played the
team with the guy who went to Harvard and Duke,
and we were on one. I mean not me. I
(00:53):
had a three game slump. Don't ask, don't ask. But
it's just it's good to be the GM and put
together a team that's strong. We got role players. It
is so fun. And we rolled eighty nine to seventy four,
a very nice w and now we get two weeks
off for good behavior and then we're in the semi final,
So very fired up about that. But also, hey, how
(01:14):
about the NBA? How good was last night in the Association?
I mean Klay Thompson makes his debut with the MAVs,
Jordan Poole goes off for in the first quarter, and
then the Celtics rolled them, and yeah, OK, see looking good?
Denver not so much. I only bet two season win
totals in the NBA. Wrote it up for Fox Sports
(01:34):
and they Denver Nuggets under was one of them. Denver
did not look good, folks. Again, It's one game, no
big deal, but they just they're not as good as
they were two years ago, clearly. And it's more than
losing KCP and Braun. Not Braun, I'm sorry, not Braun.
It was Brown Brown, Bruce Brown, That's who they lost
to the Pacers. They just they seem top heavy. I mean,
(01:57):
I don't think they know what they want to be.
I mean, they were jacking threes at an alarming rate
and nothing's going in and that wasn't great three point
three quarter, three point defense from the Thunder. It was
just bad offense. Like Jamal Murray, Oh, I don't know,
maybe he's still not one hundred percent. Anyways, let's get
to the main event. I am. Before I get to
(02:18):
NFL picks, I am going to quickly just give a
World Series pick. No word on tickets yet. I'm hopeful.
I remain hopeful, but I'm gonna go Yankees in seven.
You know, I don't really have a major rooting interest
because I've become a Dodgers stance. It's being out here.
I obviously rooted for the Yankees growing up. My favorite
place player was Don Mattingly, then it was Derek Jeter.
(02:41):
Obviously I will be rooting Yankees. If I am fortunate
enough to get tickets, I probably will go Yankees T
shirt and then a Dodgers T shirt. I don't know
Whi's what I were on top, just kidding. I'm not
trying to get a fight at a stadium because inebriated
crowds like you're a Yankees. I don't need that garbage.
But yeah, I'm rooting Yankees. I just ultimately, and you
(03:01):
guys know, I'm not a baseball handicapper. Haven't been a
baseball game in years. To me, it's just like this
is gonna be an offensive showcase. I think the Yankees
have the pitching edge, and I don't totally. I don't
think that anyone that the Dodgers will put on the
mounds scares the Yankees. There's no starter, there's go oh,
geez oh, I gotta deal with that guy. It just
(03:23):
doesn't look like that based on what I've read. And
the thing I'm excited about is I don't anticipate a
lot of two to one, three to one kind of games.
It looks like we're gonna see some firepower. I mean,
you got a tany Betts Judge soda like there the
offensive explosion is cau. I anticipate like nine to six,
seven to five, those kind of high scoring, fun games.
(03:44):
This is gonna be a great world series. Very fired up.
Also fired up for the Rams. It's funny. Forty eight
hours ago there were reports, and I'm doing air quotes
here in my home studio, reports that the Rams could
be trading Cooper Cup, that the Rams are calling people
about do you want Cooper Cup? And I was like,
come on. And then there was well the Rams they
(04:07):
could move off Stafford and it was like, where's this
crap coming from? Is McVeigh trying to Luller, Minnesota to
sleep here? And everything lined up for the Rams in
this one. Vikings coming off a tough loss to the Lions.
As I noted weeks ago, if you play the Lions
the next week, you're beat up because the Lions are
(04:27):
really a physical offensive team and just wear people down. Ultimately,
the Vikings wore down. And this is becoming a situation
with Minnesota if you guys look closely, If you look closely,
they are a dominant, dominant team early. You should, and
I haven't been doing this, you should consider betting the
Vikings first quarter every game. So this guy's substack that
(04:52):
I follow broke down the Vikings through four possessions. They
led the Giants fourteen to three, the Niners ten nothing,
the Texans fourteen nothing, the Packers twenty one nothing, the
Jets ten to nothing, the Lions ten to seven, and
they were tied with the Rams fourteen all. Folks, Kevin
O'Connell's one of the best head coaches in the league. Offensively,
(05:14):
he is. I mean, if we're gonna call McDaniel a genius,
we can call O'Connell a football genius. I mean, he's
dialing up some awesome stuff. The problem becomes is the
second half, they're getting beat up. That's the issue. And
if you look at the second half in the Rams loss,
it was like, let's see sixteen to six rams and listen,
(05:37):
I'm not gonna get crazy about that safety and the
face mask which was obvious. I'm not gonna get into it.
It's rigged and the total and all that nonsense. It
is a little weird. I'll just leave it at this.
It's strange that the ref was staring right at the play.
You can see Darnold's head and the helmet twist around
on the face mask and he says nothing. I mean,
(05:58):
he had to be seven yards away from the play
and staring right at it, like the camera behind him,
clear line, nobody was obscuring his vision. And it's like, really,
he's not seeing the face mask. And again, Vikings Fanner
or Vikings fan are apoplectic. Got we got robbed. This
(06:18):
is the reason we lost. That's not the reason you lost.
The reason you loss is because Sam Darnold coming off
the script. All the early stuff is scripted right O'Connell
senses the weaknesses, draws up plays that are gonna be advantageous,
and boom, the Vikings pounce early and they jump out
to an early lead. After that, though, is when it
becomes a problem. And I don't know that it's necessarily
(06:41):
on O'Connell. It's possible that Donald is limited. Donald had
a fine game, right, Stafford had a good game. Ultimately,
it was just the Minnesota Vikings after the script wore off.
I mean, let's go through their second half possessions. The
first possession eleven plays, sixty eight yards field goal, nine
play fifty three yards field goal, four plays, fourteen yards punt,
(07:03):
and then you had the safety. They what is that? One, two, three,
four possessions in the second half. That's tough. Rams really
wore them down. They had a six minute touchdown drive,
a four minute touchdown drive. They were headed towards something
good until the interception by Stafford. But ultimately did the
Rams become interesting? If you are McVeigh, can you make
(07:25):
the case? Hey, remember last year, guys, we were dead
in the water. We turned it around, we made the playoffs.
It was a glorious year. Why can't we do that again.
We've got a defense that's maturing, We've got Pooka back.
At Pooka, I mean, he looked like he was perfectly fine,
Like you're like, oh, that guy's coming off an injury.
Seven for one oh six, it's caught seven or nine targets.
It was Cooper Cup with five for fifty one and
(07:48):
the Tuddy and it's like, wait a minute, this offense
can be really freaking good. Kyran Williams twenty three carries
ninety seven yards, didn't have one explosive but didn't really need.
But ultimately you look at this Rams team, You're like, oh, okay,
we got some stuff here. Stafford against the blitz happy
Minnesota Vikings was not sacked. He was getting the ball
(08:10):
out really quick. Stafford had a very very good game.
And it's one of those like, Okay, maybe the Rams.
I'm not saying they could be a contender in the NFC,
obviously not. But if you look at how the NFC's
shaking out, remember the NFC North was like the best
division in football. Obviously, let's just keep an eye on it.
(08:30):
You'll hear invest bets a couple of teams from that
division are featured. But I could obviously be wrong, and
maybe I'm on the wrong side. And what if Jacksonville
pulls the upset Washington wins with Marcus Barriota, and then
the Titans are frisky with the Lions unlikely, but who knows.
It's the NFL and all of a sudden, it's like,
wait a minute, that division was supposed to be utterly
dominant and they all lost, like that could easily happen.
(08:51):
We see the Vikings lose. It felt like the spot
was not good for Minnesota. I said it earlier. Aaron
Jones did not totally look fresh. He was not able
to really get loose, and that defense was kind of
juiced up for the Rams. You gotta be optimistic if
you're a Rams fan. The Vikings get some rest before
hosting the Is that really a Sunday Night football game?
(09:13):
The Minnesota Vikings host the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday Sunday
night football. Not a not a great game by any stretch.
The Rams, I think, are the team to watch. You know,
they had that lucky comeback against the Niners. They held
off the Raiders. They have not looked good really at all.
But we're talking about no Cup and no Puka for
(09:34):
like the last five games. This is where it gets interesting.
Rams at Seattle next week in a big, big game. Now,
why is that big. Seattle has Buffalo. Okay, if Seattle,
which I think we all think is a wildcard team,
if they lose to Buffalo, that's a must win in Seattle,
and the Rams have to go on the road. Oh
(09:54):
that's a man, this Rams schedule. Let's see after Seattle,
you have Miami with Tua, which is gonna be that's it.
SOFI should be a good game. Then you have at
New England. They Rams will be favored. They host Philly
at SOFI, although that place is gonna be loud with
Philly fans. We know that they travel to New Orleans.
Maybe the Saints are healthy at that point. Buffalo sand
(10:16):
fra oh man, the schedule's tough. We don't know what
the Jets are gonna be, but that Buffalo out here
at SOFI, then up north to San fran We know
the Niners own them. They will be looking for revenge,
although we don't. Would Caffrey be playing, who knows? And
then they have to cross country trip to the Jets.
Oh man, that is a rough rough early December.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Damn.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
So that's where the state of the Rams. They already
had their bye week. Man, not a lot of not
a lot of reasons for optimism down the stretch. So
the schedule's tough, but let's see how it shakes out.
In the NFC. We don't our Washington's gonna remain tough
and formidable. Seattle forty nine ers a lot of question marks. Ultimately,
it was a It was a nice win for the Rams,
a good cash forever, all those straight fire listeners. And
(11:02):
now we head to Sunday's card and let's get to
best bets.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

couch watching the games is making money while you do it.
(11:27):
Here's your best bet.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
All right, let's see if we can have another winning
weekend in college and the NFL. The college picks, there
aren't as many, not a ton of great games this weekend.
We have Oregon minus twenty one against Illinois. This is
a risky play. Most of it has to do with
Big ten team going from the Midwest to the West Coast.
(11:49):
The teams have been awful this year. Doing that, I'm
also on USC minus thirteen against Rutgers. Rutgers traveling to
the it's simply a travel player. The big ten teams
that have had the big travel so far have totally
crapped themselves. I'm on Washington plus six, Bowling Green plus
two and a half numbers play on Boston College plus
(12:11):
seven and a half, the Kent State Golden Flashes or
they just the Flashes. No, it's Kent State plus sixteen
and a half. Oklahoma aka ch Oklahoma. Massive issues on
that offense. I cannot believe I'm backing the plus twenty.
They probably get blasted. They are not very good. My
son's buddy's dad is like the biggest Oklahoma fan. He's
(12:32):
from Oklahoma, went to school there, listens to like Oklahoma
programs out here in La on the radio. He's really
dialed in and he's very down on Oklahoma. And I
haven't yet told him that I took Oklahoma plus twenty.
I'm very curious as what is response will be. They
have quarterback issues. It's a nightmare, but go Sooners. Notre
(12:54):
Dame minus twelve and a half against Navy, and finally
Baylor minus six and a half just not a huge
college slate and it's like, you know, it's a big
Halloween party weekend, so there's a lot of stuff going on.
I don't even know how much college football watch Saturday
between kids sports and dad trying to get in some
gym workouts. You know, college football slate is mid The
(13:15):
NFL slate, I think is absolute fire. And this is
weird because I feel exceptionally good about this week. I
have all week. I feel really, really confident in some
of these picks. So green Bay Packers minus fort was
my first bet. It was actually I got four and
a half, I think, and it would go up, it
(13:37):
went down, and I'm on them and for one hundred
percent taking the Packers in the contest. I know a
lot of people like Jacksonville and Trevor Lawrence and Doug
Peterson and green Bay a little overrated. And remember green
Bay went to the Rams and they only won by five.
Are you sure they can go to Jacksonville and kind
of a sleepy spot here? Yeah, yeah, I do. I'm
(13:57):
a believer Jordan Love and this offense. I think Lafleur excellent.
You know, Lafleur's got to get some props for Coach
of the Year, just for the Malik willis stuff. Anyways,
Green Bay one of my favorite bets of the week,
as I said with Doug Kazaria and yesterday, by the way,
shout out to you guys. A lot of you guys
like the gambling talk longer than usual, not just breaking
down games. A Giant six and a half, Giants plus six,
(14:20):
they are six in the contest. I will ninety nine
point nine percent beyond the Giants. Yes, it's primetime and
Daniel Jones has lost like I think, fifteen of sixteen
primetime games. He is not a good quarterback, but at
least he's on the road here. This is simply too
big of a number for the Pittsburgh Zeelers to lay.
I know they smashed my Jets, and I'm sure they'll
beat both New York teams back to back. But just
(14:40):
a quick reminder, the Giants should win the line of
scrimmage defensively. I know TJ. Watt against a backup left
tackle is hell on earth. Dable got the dreaded vote
of confidence. How about this, you get the vote of
confidence from the owner, Dable? And what if they get
smashed forty to three, then what you know? We already
know Daniel Zones got bench last week, but he's the starter.
He was ticked off. Maybe he's a motivational spot for
(15:03):
Danny Dimes aka Danny loose Change. Yeah, got the Giants up.
I don't know why more people aren't talking about the
Falcons favored by two and a half against Tampa. So
these two teams met just a little while ago on Thursday.
It was a barn burner. The Bucks dominated the first half,
came out on fire, and Kirk Cousins led a comeback.
(15:24):
He threw for five hundred yards. He was lights out
and they get the win. Now you've got Tampa on
a short week divisional matchup down their top two receivers
in Evans and Godwin. And I know some people will say, well,
they've still got the three running backs and blah blah blah.
(15:44):
I just want to remind people how far CJ. Stroud
has fallen and this season when Nico Collins has not
been available, he's a different quarterback. Mike Evans and Godwin
have been tearing up the league. They might have the
top like if you combine the top two receivers stats
this year, they might be number one in the league.
Godwin in the slot over the middle, Evans deep and like,
(16:06):
sure they have a good fleet. I like the kid mcmellan.
I grabbed him in fantasy, but the reality is in
such a quick turnaround time and the familiarity the Falcons have.
I don't know. I like the Falcons here. I know
they don't win any games easily, and they looked bad
last week, but I thought that was more about Seattle
than the Falcons. The other quarterback who had looked pedestrian
(16:27):
without his guys was Matt Stafford. You know, prior to
getting Pooka and Cooper cup back, like Stafford and the
Rams look like one of the worst teams in the
league without your receivers, Like, receivers matter greatly. And I
don't know, guys, remember Aj Brown out for the Eagles
and what happened? They looked terrible. They got smashed by Tampa.
So you take away Baker's top two targets. I'm sorry.
(16:50):
I like Falcons here minus two and a half almost
certainly will be on them in the contest Miami Dolphins.
This is weird, so like him a three. Bet it right.
We got Miami at three and a half. We talked
about it with Doug yesterday. Well, guess what happened on
Thursday afternoon. It's looking like two is a lot to start,
and this line has swored up to four and a half. Now,
(17:13):
before you think that's an overreaction, this line probably would
have been six if Tua had been playing all along.
Like we know, Arizona's not very good. The secondary is horrible,
and I think you could make a credible argument that
the Miami Dolphins going from Tua to whoever the hell
their backup is, is one of the biggest drop offs
(17:34):
in the league because the backup is so bad and
Tua fits the offense so perfectly. I mean, they look
unplayable with Wadalin Hill, did absolutely nothing with Snoop Huntley
and whoever the hell the other was it, Tim Boyle. Yeah,
that's right, Like they couldn't do anything offensively. Now you
get Tua in there, It's not like Arizona's got a
(17:56):
nasty pass rush. I'm surprised this isn't bigger. I don't
want to say this is one of the bigger bets
of the season because Tua is coming off a concussion,
but there are some reports out there that Tua could
have come back earlier that it was kind of one
of those things like, hey, we need to do this
for the league. He's got to sit out that it
had the field. Nobody came out and said that, but
it certainly feels like Miami could open a can here
(18:19):
on Arizona. And here's a fun stat that I on
earthed Kyler Marie is Owen eleven straight up after a win.
So he won Monday night and they got lucky to
win that. You guys realize that if you watch a game,
Owen eleven straight up after a win has not won
back to back starts since October of twenty twenty one.
Now what's that about? Is it about the competition? Is
it about Kyler maybe gets the win, I'm the man,
(18:41):
Maybe he stops doing his quote unquote homework. I don't know.
There's a lot of potential theories as to why there
he's oh and eleven after a win, But I just
don't like this spot for Arizona late Monday game. He
got a travel cross country for an early kickoff. Miami's
getting their quarterback back. They feel like, hey, second half
of the season, we got a shot here. The Jet stink.
(19:03):
The Patriots are nothing special. We can get into the
playoffs again, and I think Miami comfortably handles this game.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 2 (19:23):
You guys know I'm on the Niners. We don't need
to talk about that at all. It looks like I
made a horrible mistake betting them early at five. Yeah, five,
it's down to four, probably heading lower. And listen. Rob
g got on my case earlier this season where he's like,
why are you betting so early in the week, And
I'm like, I think I see something that other people don't. Well,
I clearly misjudged the Niners. However, however, I will point
(19:45):
out that Deebo cmuel was back at practice Thursday looking fine. Now,
then the question will turn into wake did he have
pneumonia or pneumonia like symptoms. I don't know, because it
feels weird that you could have pneumonia, which can knock
you down for a week or two, and he was
down for like three days and then back at football practice.
(20:06):
I mean, Jennings not practicing has been greatly concerned if
you give me Debo healthy, Jennings back, Kittle and Mason,
I think Niners role here. If now you're talking, well,
Mason's kind of dinged up, Kittle's ding dub, Jennings is out,
and Debo we'll see then it gets dicey. But again
this comes back to what I said earlier in the week.
This Kyle Shanahan's scheme has given Dallas tons of fits.
(20:31):
They just obliterate them. Zimmer does not know how to
defend this offense at all, and it's the forty nine
Ers just dominate this series. Now, the positive news if
you're a Cowboys fan is Mike McCarthy off a bye
in his career thirteen three and one against the spread.
He's three and one against the spread in a bye
with Dallas after a bye with Dallas, which is really good.
But like, is Michael Parson's back. I don't know that
(20:53):
there are fundamental changes to be made on this team,
but you know surely he's been stuff because he's got
a show. Well in this game, they can't get blasted.
Remember last year when Dak was like brought her up
to MVP. This was a huge Sunday Night or Monday
night game and san Fran won like forty one to ten.
It was a bloodbath. Now san Fran was at the
height of its powers. They clearly will not be in
(21:14):
this one. I did bet the Bears. Interesting note from
Adam Schefter. Now, you guys know, I like to get
into the conspiracy theories of reporters and all this stuff.
So Adam Scheft, let's back up. Ian Rappaport came out
and said, it's trending toward Marcus Mariota starting on Sunday.
He said that I believed Wednesday morning when it was
(21:37):
like Daniels is not going to practice, and he wrote
the word trending toward Mariota. Okay, then what happens on Thursday?
Adam Schefter says, wait a minute, Jane Daniels is going
to try to practice on Friday? Now? Is that gamesmanship
from Dan Quinn and Cliff Kingsbury. Hey, hey, hey, we
don't want them preparing for Mariota. We want him being
ready for Jane Daniels. We got to keep this out
(22:00):
or is it real that Jadon Daniels could go throw
on a flackjack and get the hell out there. I'm
gonna guess know this is the middle of the season,
non divisional matchup. I don't think Washington's terrified of the Bears.
I mean, you know, guys, think about this, Caleb Williams,
who knows him better than maybe anyone in the NFL
outside the Bears, Cliff Kingsbury, who was with him last
(22:21):
year at USC, you know, and you think he's been
talking to Dan Quinn about strengths and weaknesses and how
to get how to get to him, what he can
and can't do, what he's really really struggled against. I mean,
Kingsbury knows Caleb as well as anybody in the NFL.
So there is a world where Washington's defense steps up
and shuts down the Bears that we are talking about
the Chicago Bears here. I just think Bears off a bye,
(22:44):
everybody back and healthy in the fold. Probably some new
wrinkles to the offense. Right, So I'm on the Bears here.
I like Chicago a lot in this spot. What else
do we have?
Speaker 1 (22:54):
We have?
Speaker 2 (22:55):
We talked about Green Bay. I believe don't need to
go into that if you check out the YouTube of
the interview with Kazarian or the podcast A few totals,
I'm on over forty in Saints Chargers under forty seven
and a half in Cowboys Niners under forty two in
Jets Patriots under forty seven and a half in Atlanta Tampa,
(23:18):
And again we covered some of this stuff with Kazarian.
The only other number I had was Chargers minus seven
and a half. That's down to seven and again that
was another early in the week bet on the Saints
not getting healthy in time. Well, they are getting healthy,
but it is going to still be Spencer Rattler under center.
And we know the Saints defense cannot stop a nosebleed
at this point. And the Chargers want to do one thing,
(23:40):
and that's run, run, run. This is probably a twenty
five carry game for Dobbins, which is dicey coming off
Monday night football. So maybe they go to my guy Vidal,
who I picked up in fantasy. I told my brother
to pick him up. This could be the game, Gus.
The bus maybe comes back. But I would not be
shocked if if the Chargers basically just mill the clock
(24:00):
here and ran the football down their throats. I like
the Chargers don't seven and a half. It's kind of
a big number. I'll talk about the other big numbers. Briefly,
the Browns Ravens. It's a tough one. Jameis Winston stepping in.
He can't be worse than Deshaun Watson, we know that,
but his weapons are not extraordinary. I just I know
(24:22):
I gassed up the Ravens after their comeback win over
the Bucks down ten nothing and then just smoke them
the rest of the game. I don't know. Jim Schwartz
probably's gonna be ready with some stuff here, but I
just I cannot get involved with the Browns. I know
other people are really gonna be like, I, come on,
it's too big of a number for the Ravens to
lay divisional matchup. Come on, and yeah, you're probably right.
(24:45):
For me, it would be Browns or nothing. But I
just it's just so ough. It's disgusting. Can they get
to like seventeen points? I doubt it, but maybe in
Djoku goes wild. Remember this Ravens defense is not great.
I'm sorry, but I'm probably proably gonna end up being
on bo Nicks and the Broncos. Haven't bet it yet.
I'm hoping we'll see the dumb money on the Carolina
(25:06):
Panthers and Bryce Young because if you can explain to
me how Bryce Young gets more than fourteen points, I
would be stunned. You would need like a special team scorer,
at least one catastrophic turnover by Nicks or two setting
up with field position. But even then, this Panthers defense
can't stop anyone. Like Marcus Mariota came in. I don't
even know if he'd appeared in a game in years.
(25:28):
I probably had, And Marcus Mariota looked like he looked
like an NFL starter against the Panthers like they are,
they disinterested, I don't know. It was just absolutely bizarre
how bad they are. So I'm looking at the Broncos,
which would be a dumb bet. A lot of favorites here.
What dogs do I have? I have the Giants as
a dog. Oh my gosh, is that the only underdog
(25:49):
I like? Well that never works out. Well, yeah, so
you've been warned. Anyways, have a great weekend. Back on Monday.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Talk to you then,
