Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well that's right, you've heard the man that.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
Time of week. My name is Bernie Friddle.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
We are company line from the tyrat dot com studios
here in Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Tyraq dot Com. We'll help you.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Get there at unmapped selection, fast free shipping, free roadazard
protection hit over ten thousand recommended installers tyrack dot com
the way tied buying should be. Perhaps we should have
listened to Kirby Smart last summer and he doubled down
on his position October tenth.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Where am I going with this?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Well, if you watch your little college football today, for
those of you who thrive on havoc and turmil and
mayhem and chaos, well you are in your glory so far.
Well you know who's gone down right, Well, Oregon's going nowhere,

(01:02):
Miami went down, Georgia went down. And the beauty of
this college football twelve team playoff is it should be
twelve times the mayhem and turmoil and chaos that we've
ever seen in the past. For one simple reason the
Kirby Smart pointed out in July. He said, there is

(01:25):
one equalizer that's going to make massive upsets this year possible,
and lo and behold on October tenth, Vanderbilt upset Alabama
and we're off and running now. He said, Sure, the
transfer portal is big, but there's one thing that transfer
portal has had more than ever that can change things immediately.

(01:51):
You combine nil with a transfer portal, and yes, you
can get the right quarterback to build your team's offense around.
And that's the single most important piece of any good
football team. Prior to the combination of the transfer portal,
in the ability to play after transferring, it would have
taken multiple years in many cases to rectify just wrong decisions,

(02:12):
one wrong decision made a quarterback. Now it can be
done instantly. Enter Diego Pavia, who beat Vanderbilt, who beat
Alabama that day, And lo and behold the irony. It's
not coincidence, it's irony. I always cracks me up when
people say, hey, I saw Mike at the game. Ironically,

(02:35):
I saw Mike at the game. No, that's not irony,
that's coincidence. Irony is when the firehouse burns down. You see,
it was ironic that when Georgia transferred to Old miss
Or transferred. Look at me Freudian slip. When Georgia traveled
to Old Miss Saturday, they got on the field with

(02:56):
Lane Kiffen, who actually proclaimed himself two years ago the
Transfer King. However, it's probably a safe bet that Lane
Kiffin and the group at Old Miss are having a
big time laughs laugh now because.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
He can call himself the transfer King.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Well, he's sitting down the throne now because the way
that Mississippi constructed that team with a host of transfers
really highlighted Kirby Smart's words and how prophetic they are,
how much how rare was Mississippi's triumph of this nature.

(03:37):
They posted the highest AP ranked win at home in
school history. Mississippi's never beated a team ranked that highly.
It's also, by the way, the first loss for Kirby
Smart Smart to a team other than Alabama since twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Now, Lane Kiffin.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Like him or not, he's a big control and you're
probably here for it.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
We get a kick out of him, but he's.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Typically presided over high powered offenses, and certainly the high
power offenses he's had in Oxford the last few years
have gotten a lot of attention. But Lane Kiffin's no dummy.
He realized he needed to beef up the defense after
losing by thirty points to Georgia last year.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
He gets an elite.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Pass rusher from Florida and a big time defensive tackle
from Texas A and M. Both of them were a beast.
The pass rusher's name is Princely and he was. He
sacked Carson back twice, forced a crucial fubble in the
fourth quarter. And oh, by the way, the dB from
Texas A and M Walter Nolan. He was a major

(04:41):
factor in limiting Georgia to fifty nine rushing yards. Oh
did I mention a quarterback? You see, because Lane Kiff
found his quarterback. Yes see, Jackson dark has been there
a couple of years, but they Steve had ordered from
USC two years ago. He's leading old Missus offense, battled
back from an early ancle injury through for a couple

(05:01):
hundred yards of the score. That's not the point. Mississippi
was never in doubt in that game. And let's face it,
we are off and running and the pairs BYU has won.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
And they'll escape Utah.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
But if you followed, if you follow the brackets as
I'm really following as closely as I can even if
Byu'd lost, they still would have had a shot at
the playoff. It's my understanding they would be tied with Colorado.
And yet tell me you're not rooting for Colorado right now.
As it stands Oregon's won, Miami's two, there's still two

(05:35):
even though they lost Texas three and BYU four. But
what has changed is the you know, the five through twelve.
Penn State moves to eight. They now have to play
the ninth ranked Georgia. The winner would advanced to play Oregon.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Ohio State, Boise States stays the same.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Notre Dame would play Old Miss they would advance to
play Miami. In Indiana, Tennessee remains the same. But you
get the picture. We are off and running. And oh,
by the way, Georgia's offense is the one that might
need a reset right now. It was jarring enough for
Bulldog Faithful to lose to a non Alabama opponent for

(06:13):
the first time in five years. But Georgia is scoring
only ten points. This team is like Sybil. I mean,
one week they look like they're unbeatable, they look like
the most complete team in college football, and today they
look very pedestrian. I realized they missed lad McConkey and
brock Bowers, but they haven't been there all year. And
I think up until last week most of us thought,

(06:34):
really Georgia was the most complete team in football, not Texas,
not you get it? Okay, And how about Alabama going
into LSU in what was an officially dubbed as an
elimination game because it was I.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Talked about this last night.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
The beauty of this playoff give two to two lost
teams and essentially a de fact of elimination playoff game,
where at if it had been twenty five years ago
before the BCS, or thirty years ago, you know, and
the playoff was, if you want to call it that, well,
there was no playoff. The national champion was decided by
a bunch of voters, voters in a smoke field room.

(07:13):
Then you advanced to the BCS, which no one really liked,
but it was better than a sharp stick in the eye,
not much better. And then finally we had the four
team made for TV Invitational playoff, which never made sense
to me because you had five power conferences and someone
was gonna left out, just asked Florida State. And the
bottom line is this you think Florida State would have

(07:34):
liked this playoff format from last year. See that's the beauty.
It's gonna be decided on the field. So you might
not like BYU being number one if they win their conference, though,
hey put yourself with big old glasses. Shut up, juice.
If you don't think BYU is good, get on the
field and beat him then. Or if you're bent because
you're stuck in the SEC, which is too good a conference,

(07:55):
well what the hell then, Trent, you know, relocate to
the Big twelve. What you're not going to do. The
Big twelve will get one team in this tournament, the
SEC A get for it looks like one of them
is gonna be Alabama. Give it up to Klein de Bor.
They proved they could go into a situation which is
not easy Elis. They don't lose night games at LSU,
and I after really question now whether Brian Kelly's a

(08:17):
fit there or he might have to shift his accent.
And how about Miami. It's about damn time you see
the T shirt f around and find out, well, that's
Miami's been playing with their food for months, not weeks,
and a lot of sharps like Hayines, King and Georgia
Tech today and they were rewarded.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
By the way. Give it up to Coach Prime.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
You cannot tell me that if Colorado could somehow find
their way into this tournament, it would just be baffle
for college football, you know. It turns out to Dion
Sanders comments after he won Colorado's debut last year weren't wrong.
They were just about fourteen months early. Quote we told
you we come, and you thought we was joking. And

(09:02):
guess what weekey receipts.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
You got them.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
My man, what a phenomenal job they have done in Colorado.
Sure they still have Shudor Sanders and Travis Hunter and
a trew of excellent receivers. Those two guys probably both
picked in the top eight next year. But they've got
a defense now that can tackle in space. They're pretty
good in the trenches. They can actually run the ball.

(09:26):
Fast forward fourteen months, Coach Prime has the Buffaloes holding
the playoff destiny in their own hands with three weeks
to play. The latest receipt in the Colorado resume a
road win at Texas Tech on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
At Iowa State's second straight loss.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
At all of a sudden a spot in the Big
twelve title game is the Buffaloes to grab if they
went out another day for Shodoor Sanders two hundred and
ninety one yards, three scores, Travis Hunter, nine balls, blah
blah blah blah. But the defense, that's the one you
need to give the gold star to. They had been
a maligned unit for the last two years. They've improved

(10:02):
drastically in sanderssecond year, six sacks today, ten tackles for loss.
Need I say more? And Kurt Signetti, yep, I googled you.
I googled you be nice. If I could talk, I
googled you. Yeah you win. I love it what he said.
And Produce sucks, but so does Michigan and Ohio State.
Well that's a banger. He's going to get Ohio State

(10:24):
in a couple of weeks. But the Santiana team, and
I know people will dog them where they barely beat Michigan,
So what they needed to be in a game, they
needed to be in a fistfight in the phone booth
to prove they could prevail. You know, Michigan's not good,
but they're still prideful and they still hit hard.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
They just don't have any depth that I have a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
They can't really throw a complete a forward pass, but
the winged helmet still inspires, you know, a lot of
respect because they block and tackle well, and they're going
to play hard.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
They're going to play to the whistle.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
So welcome to the twenty twenty four college football season.
They always remember what you did in November, and I
guarantee you a lot of coaches and fans and teams
are gonna remember what happened Saturday. Coming up, we've got
a big, busy NFL slate to get to grab your
pens and pens and pencils. You'll be drinking out of
a fire hose. All the knowledge. Steve Pick and the

(11:14):
physic five. I'm Bernie Friday. We're kemedy Line from Las Vegas,
Fox Sports Radio tirect dot com studios.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Keep it locked.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
All right, back on the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
We are coming to line from the tarret dot com
studios here in Las Vegas. We'll take him to three

it every Saturday night, eleven fifteen Pacific. Get your pens
and pencils ready. It's time for the physic five.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
It's the phasic five. These are the five things.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
You need to hear about, not with the only backed
up back Hillton Super Contest winner Steve zig here's Bernie Thrado.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
All right, so as we.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Got a time to get to Usually we don't start
with college, but to that we should. You'd mentioned that
BYU just managed to win a game. They had a
one percent chance of winning.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Your thoughts, I think.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
It was under point one percent. I'm going to call
it the Mormon money line miracle. Bernie, if I may,
I know you're doing the show. Here's what happened. BYU.

Speaker 6 (12:29):
Trails need a field goal.

Speaker 5 (12:31):
They're on their own seven yard line, it's fourth down,
they have one time out left, there's under a minute
to play, and they got sacked in their end zone
on back to back plays, and they won.

Speaker 6 (12:41):
How is that possible?

Speaker 5 (12:42):
You ask, Well, the first time they got sacked, there
was a timeout. It was so noisy you couldn't even
hear the timeout until you thought the game was over.
And then oh, there was a timeout called and after
the second sack, literally two seconds, three seconds after the
play was over, Utah is celebrating. There's a little yellow
canary on the ground flag defensive holding ten.

Speaker 6 (13:02):
Yards and then b why you meticulated down the field?

Speaker 5 (13:06):
If you had told me, Bernie, I bet big on
this game that I could cash out and get back
zero point one percent at that point, I would have
taken it because I'm like, well, the game's over, They're
going to just take three knees.

Speaker 6 (13:17):
So just crazy what happened.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Hey, I mean, look, the more we the more you
do this, the more you.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
Think you've seen it. You think you've seen it all,
you see something new.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
Did you see Pat Forty's tweet last night or last
week when Duke was leading Miami twenty eight to seventeen
and he's making fun of Vegas.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
Ah?

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Yeah, And I was wondering how you guys were laying
twenty one when Miami you know, well, by the way,
it was my lock of the year.

Speaker 6 (13:47):
So I hod back.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
I went by twenty two and cover and I came
this close to tweet at forty. I said, you know, Pat,
but he just started out with one casino, go ahead, start,
you got the floor.

Speaker 6 (13:57):
I have to ask you this. So I'm a I'm
a maskie.

Speaker 5 (14:01):
I bet, based upon my bank roll in two percent
on all my plays. But if ever there was a
Sunday Delly can wager a little bit more than I
normally wager. I think this might be the sautiful for
what's transpired.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Right, well, beautiful, let's dive into Sunday. It's an interesting year, Fez.
NFL favorites ninety six and fifty six against the number
in the last six weeks. No dak, I'm guessing Rush
is worth about five points, and you know Christian McCaffrey
is back.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
So let's dive in.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
I want to start with the game Atlanta at New
Orleans catching forward home, one of those situations fays first
game after a fired coach, Dennis Allen. Ladies and gentlemen,
meet Darren Rizzy. If you'd ask me who Darren Rizzy
was two months ago, I'm a dead man.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
By the way, listen, the Saints are going nowhere. But
what do you feel about the dead cat bounce? You know,
and Derek Carr don't trust.

Speaker 6 (15:02):
You know, it's funny because I started using that.

Speaker 5 (15:04):
I know it's a wall Street term, but no one
else used that in sports betting. Now everyone's using it. Yeah,
I mean it's a wall say well, your investment guy.
They use it in Wall Street, you know, to talk
about stocks months long term, but maybe maybe short term.

Speaker 6 (15:22):
It's okay, And I think that might be the case.
Clearly the organization is punting.

Speaker 5 (15:26):
On the year a lave goes on the Iruh, they
jettison their best cornerback. But uh, players, players play hard,
especially when there's a change in coaching. That's always happened
in professional sports. Who are the Falcons to be laying
three and a half or four Bernie on the road.
If I had to invest in it, I would take
the Saints. The fours have disappeared. It's three and a

(15:48):
half if it goes back to for you know, I
hate taking the number when I could have gotten just
a little bit better.

Speaker 6 (15:54):
So you probably get it.

Speaker 5 (15:55):
With all these favorites covering, you're probably gonna get a
little inflation on the favorites tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
And part of the reason I invoked that statement, the
Saints have lost seven in a row, seven in a
row after starting two to zero.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
But you already knew that, all right, let's sad to Arizona.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
The plucky Arizona Cardinals lay in one against the crazy.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
Weird, not very good New York Jets. Did you know this, folks?
I know you know this, Faz.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
The Cardinals actually are leading the NFC West and they
got a three game winning streak. Here's the question. Can
Kyler Murray stand prosperity? This is something I'd like you
to analyze. He's only three and twelve against the number
in Arizona. When his teams reach five hundred or climb
above five hundred.

Speaker 6 (16:42):
Very interesting.

Speaker 5 (16:43):
Well, they reached five hundred and it was last week,
so maybe there's a change in twenty twenty four. I'll
say this, Arizona's had I think the hardest strength of
schedule in the NFL. It's been incredibly difficult, and because
of that, I could make the case they're undervalued the
change in favorites. Arizona was catching one a laying one.

(17:04):
Now they're catching one and a half. All the money
is on the Jets. And you know what, Bernie, I
don't agree with that. I didn't disagree with it when
Arizona was favored. Frankly, this is a game I would
have teased either side. So I tease the Jets one
they would be plus one, and now the Cards are
catching plus one half And I think it's a great teaser.
Should be a real close game in the desert, fair enough.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
I was about to ask, if I think that's an
excellent teaser, partner, we'll find someone else to partner it
up with. I'm talking about the Cardinals catching the points
at home, all right.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
I am on this game, Fez. I got them when
they were laying five.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
The Niners visit Tampa Bay, they get Christian McCaffrey back,
but even without him this year, there's still the number
two offense in the NFL, averaging Fordard and thirteen yards
in the game, they're coming off of buy They're facing
a beat up Tampa Bay Buccaneers team missing the two
top receivers, coming off an overtime road loss. Says, if

(17:58):
this isn't a terrible spot for Tampa Bay, Well, the
only thing that scares me, oddly enough, rock Perty's own
five against the number following a bye.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
I don't care. I laid the wood. I feel like
San Francisco rops your thoughts.

Speaker 6 (18:12):
I think you're spot on.

Speaker 5 (18:13):
I call it a fourteen to six game, Bernie and
I would frankly be perfectly happy with a fourteen sixth final.
I know it's more likely to be like, you know,
thirty four to twenty eight the Niners the extra weekend Tampa,
not just the Monday night came, but then overtime Monday
night game with a kick and then you know what
at the end of the game. So I think you're

(18:35):
on the right side with if I had to play
it at play.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
Ninersfaz, I want to digress for just a second. I
really want to get your thoughts on this.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
You can make a.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
Strong case that Thursday night, the rest missed three penalty
calls in Cincinnati's final drive, one on the face mask,
two during the two point conversion. How do you reconcile
that As a handicapper, it's hard to handicap turnovers and
it's really hard to.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Handicap miss calls. That's got to hurt your thoughts.

Speaker 6 (19:03):
Well.

Speaker 5 (19:04):
I would make the case that wink wink, nod, nod,
the reps have a little meeting or a little memo
goes out and says, you know, the Bengals, no one's
the same games fixed, but the Bengals, we really got
a raw deal obviously, so let's try to make a
point of emphasis. If anyone like grabs Burrow's face mask
ever again, let's go ahead and call a penalty. By

(19:26):
the way, Bernie, I tweeted this out. I don't know
if you saw this. I had, I thought someone. I'm sorry,
I'm not attributing it. There's a picture of someone holding
Burrow's face mask. At simultaneously the same play, two other
Ravens are grabbing two other Bengals face mask. Three face
masks are being violated.

Speaker 6 (19:45):
No flags on that play exactly.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
Do you think Mahomes would have gotten that call just
focusing on Joe Burrow? Of course he would have.

Speaker 5 (19:52):
Every time Brady, you breathe on him, you get a penalty.
Absolutely yes.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
And even after the game Joe Burrows, the reporter asked
him a prize, they didn't call it. He goes, no,
I never get the call. Why would I be surprised? Hint, hint,
not not. So you're onto something there, I guess you
figure out you know who you can get away with
this on and you go from there. But you can't
overthink the damn thing. All right, Let's go to another
Moribun franchise the Dallas Cowboys catching a touchdown at home

(20:17):
against Philadelphia Cooper Rush.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
Now, here's the good news.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
He's actually five and one straight up as a starter
and he's getting points. The other news he hasn't started
the game in two years, one month, and twenty five days.
Can you back Cooper Rush here?

Speaker 6 (20:33):
Yes, Kelly back the Cowboys?

Speaker 5 (20:35):
Probably not. I have been three point down grade. So
I have Dak one point better than average and Cooper
Rush two points worse than an average quarterback.

Speaker 6 (20:43):
Average quarterback would be like Gino.

Speaker 5 (20:46):
Smith for Seattle. So it's only only it's a three
point down grade. But the problem is the Cowboys are
no good. However, before we get excited about the Eagles,
I'm hearing Hurts is not one hundred percent. Maybe we
play Hurts to go under his rushing guards props, and
certainly I'm not going to lay seven or seven and
a half. It's the split line on the Eagles have

(21:06):
Hurts is not one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
Yeah, that's certainly a factor, But they still have a
J Brown there and they're measurably better.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
With him on the field.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
It's just Dallas defense, fez uh. It's pretty clearer I
don't know what happened to Mike Zimmer. He doesn't have
a clue. Maybe they could have hired the old Boston
Red Sox manager Don Zimer. Remember him, He's had a
face to look like a block punt.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
Anyway, what's wrong with that defense? Honestly?

Speaker 2 (21:34):
I mean it's it's they're getting Michael Parson's back.

Speaker 5 (21:37):
He's zero and one lifetime in fights to after age seven.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Ye, Peter Martinez, right, maybe you can take on.

Speaker 6 (21:45):
Jake Paul and get paid for that good jo.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
By the way, you remember Pedro Martinez threw him to
the ground. His body took a bat off from what
I would call it.

Speaker 5 (21:52):
Yeah, very ugly, by the way, don't I think A. J.
Brown's a little banged up? Also, so the Eagles. The
Eagles are banged up. You know, I'll say this.

Speaker 6 (22:00):
I'm on an island. I love the Eagles.

Speaker 5 (22:01):
Everyone's been talking about Sirianni and they all disagree with me.

Speaker 6 (22:05):
I actually think he did all his decisions.

Speaker 5 (22:07):
I'm not saying they were spot on perfect, but they
weren't mistakes. I'm fine with the guy going for two
up sixteen nothing in the first half from the one
yard line.

Speaker 6 (22:16):
Absolutely fine with.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
It, just to put a kapper on this.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
We know that aj Brown left the game against the
Jaguars last week with a knee injury, but all reports
indicate he's back ready to go, good to go, unlike
Trey Lance, who can't even get ahead of Geddy Lee
and Rush. I mean, I knew this guy was bad.
I didn't know who's this bad. Actually, I didn't know
who was this bad?

Speaker 3 (22:36):
All right?

Speaker 6 (22:37):
Oh well, Trey Lance is a bad third string quarterback,
that's right.

Speaker 5 (22:41):
I mean he's not going to jump a good second
string quarterback, no chance.

Speaker 3 (22:44):
Yes, yes, good good stuff fest. All right.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
I am on this game too. I'm just going to
tell you right now. I grabbed it Tuesday, Denver plus
the eight Broncos are three and one against the number
as road dogs this year. I looked for Sean Payton
to bounce back in a big way. I like getting
on teams that have pride with a good defense coming
off in embarrassment, and I think the Broncos were embarrassed
last week. And look, you've got the proverbial Chiefs coming

(23:12):
off a tough overtime.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
Game last week, and teams who.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
Play overtime the following week only cover forty three percent
of the time, and they're laying a pretty big number.
And by the way, again I may have said this,
the Broncos beat the Chiefs last year in their second game.

Speaker 3 (23:27):
Your thoughts on that game.

Speaker 5 (23:28):
Well, that was a flawless professional handicap. The only thing
I can add is that I agree one hundred percent
in Kansas City has to play Buffalo next.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
Week, so it's a last spot.

Speaker 6 (23:38):
Also, so I really like to play.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
Yes, yes, I meant to mention that, and I forgot.
Thanks for interjecting that you wonder they're human they head
to Buffalo. Wait, let's stay right there, faz, I believe
this would be the first time this year the Chiefs
should be an underdog. I looked at the Westgate look
aheadline the Chiefs for getting one. Do you grab the
Chiefs on principal alone, because they're getting a point?

Speaker 6 (24:01):
No?

Speaker 5 (24:01):
I went to DraftKings and I grabbed the Bills plus one.

Speaker 6 (24:05):
And here's why, comparability.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
The case was just at San Francisco and the Niners
were laying two minus two. The Niners aren't even as
good as Buffalo certainly, or they weren't back then. So
if the Niners were laying to Buffalo should be laying
to Wait. It's perfectly fine about the Chiefs. No reason
to bet them now. For whatever reason, people just love

(24:27):
betting against Kansas City. So wait until next week and
grab plus points with the Chiefs, or to.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
Ease them going back into the cookie jar. Whenever the
New England Patriots were getting points, it didn't happen often,
but it happened. It was an auto play for me
and it seemed to work out well. But I'll take
that to heat. We'll talk about that next week. All right,
Another team getting points, the Steelers at Washington. I have
not touched this game yet, but I want to hear

(24:54):
what you've got to City. The Commandos seven to one
and one against the number that's the second best in
the NFL. Both teams have won three in a row.
And you've got this situation now where Mike Tomlin, historically
as an underdog, believe it or not, wins outright fifty
nine percent of the time as an underdog. Here's why

(25:15):
I might I might throw a half a unit on Pittsburgh.
I like Russell Wilson. They're averaging thirty one points a
game under Russell Wilson. They were averaging twenty one points
a game under justin fields. I'm not betting the game
at least yet, but fit would be the only set
I would look at your thoughts.

Speaker 6 (25:32):
Yeah, so it's been a split line. Two point seventy five,
I mean two and a half. Then it goes to three,
then two and a half, then three.

Speaker 5 (25:38):
I'm fighting with my friend the hit man, who's a
great handicapper. I literally screaming at him, Bernie, because he
gave out Washington mis two and a half, which was fine,
and I like Pittsburgh plus three. And he was saying
that he still liked Washington at minus three, and I
was like.

Speaker 6 (25:53):
How much do you want to bet?

Speaker 4 (25:54):
You want to do?

Speaker 5 (25:55):
You want to be a zillion at three? He's like,
oh no, no, no, I don't Steven. So I'm like, see,
you don't really believe it. I check the boxes. Pittsburgh
is an underdog. Check Pittsburgh when they had their head rusher.
Check Washington is their quarterback one hundred percent. Maybe it
sure looks like a close game Washington, either team could win.

Speaker 6 (26:18):
Washington finds the.

Speaker 5 (26:18):
Way to win BYU style. Pittsburgh covers the three.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
All right, two more Fez. But these are big I
covered the Lions for ten years and this is something
that goes back forever. The Lions the week after playing
green Bay historically, I mean, this is just such a
big emotional game for them in the franchise. They're nineteen
to twenty eight against the number. After defeating green Bay,

(26:46):
Detroit heads to Houston Land three and a half the Lions.
They've been on a heater nine to one against the
spread their last ten games. This team is for real.
They're plus eleven in turnover ratio. They average thirty two
points a game. Texans also coming off an embarrassing effort.
They do get Nico Collins back the final kicker c J. Stroud.

(27:08):
He's six and zero against the spread as a dog
of two or more points. Do you do you take
a look at the Houston Texans here.

Speaker 6 (27:16):
I like what you did there, you know, you know.

Speaker 5 (27:21):
Against the Jets though he was a two point dog,
so he's only one as a dog to his last trial.

Speaker 6 (27:27):
He's not been as good, not as well.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
I didn't qualify that though he's two and zero as
he's he's six and zero when he's facing an opponent
that has a greater than five hundred record.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
I should have I should have entered that.

Speaker 6 (27:38):
Sorry, Ah, Jets certainly don't quality.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
Oh yeah, so sorry about that.

Speaker 5 (27:42):
Yeah, a little, a little too many parameters for me.
I was like, I'm under a harvest moon when it's.

Speaker 6 (27:46):
Thirty eight degrees.

Speaker 5 (27:48):
But I I know, but but it looks good to
have a perfect system and directionally.

Speaker 6 (27:53):
I like what you're saying that. As a dog, he's good.
I think one thing. Know. I's talking about the Lions.
They're we well rested. They've got buyas the second half
the last two weeks because.

Speaker 5 (28:04):
Basically after Love through that pick six, that game was over,
and the game against the Titans was over midway through
the second quarter. So it's not like the Lions are like,
you know, all banged up from playing a lot of
downs and because of that, this is actually a fresh
team on that long winning streak. I still prefer the Texans.
If you give me Nico Collins, you.

Speaker 6 (28:24):
Know, Detroit can find a way to win.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
I love taking plus three and a half with a
decent team.

Speaker 6 (28:29):
I'll probably do it with Houston.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
Yeah, fair enough.

Speaker 2 (28:32):
I haven't had the guts to fire on that game yet,
but I will say this It is one of those
games you might look up Sunday night and say, Wow,
why didn't I see that coming?

Speaker 3 (28:43):
So spot on, let's go to Monday Night.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
Ever so quickly Miami visits the Los Angeles Rams.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
The Rams have become a darling.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
That's a pickum game for me in the way I
handicap it your thoughts.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
I don't think I'll be involved. I might take a
look at the under.

Speaker 6 (28:59):
Let me talk you into it.

Speaker 5 (29:00):
And it's minus one to ask the current number three reasons
I've picking them in my.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
Mind like a coin flip, irrespective. Yeah, I didn't mean
to spread, but go ahead.

Speaker 5 (29:08):
Yeah I have I have the Rams slightly better, all right.
I have the Rams with the significantly better coach, which
I think magnifies when you've got two even teams playing.
I also have the Rams with the better quarterback. Again,
I think that matters for the most One is a
really close game that could go either way. And I
love the fact that it's a night game, so it
ends like around ten thirty pm Eastern time, so the

(29:30):
body clocks greatly favor the West Coast team that's always
done better on these Sunday Night, Monday night, Thursday Night Games.

Speaker 6 (29:36):
I'm on the rams, Bernie.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
All right, sez good stuff. Enjoy your Sunday. We'll do
it next week.

Speaker 6 (29:43):
Sounds good by you. Never in doubt, Bernie.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
The classic rock and chair games is.

Speaker 6 (29:50):
Take care.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
See that's Steveick the Physic five Every Saturday Night coming up,
we continue with the Bernie Frattleshield, but first we go
back to our guy, Kevin Wired at the chef with
the least.

Speaker 7 (30:01):
I'm not so sure. BYU fans were never in doubt
on that one.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
As the Cougar sarcasm.

Speaker 7 (30:07):
Yeah, the Cougar's trailed by two late in that game
with under a minute to go, able to kick the
field goal in the final seconds to win a twenty
two to twenty one. But it looked like the Utes
had the Cougar stop at their own one yard light
on fourth down, but a holding penalty was called on
the defense. Of course, that extended the drive for BYU.

(30:27):
They would take advantage, march down the field to get
in the field goal range and eventually win the game.
So the BYU Cougar state undefeated at nine to ohero
on the season. We did have an undefeated team lose
on Saturday.

Speaker 8 (30:44):
Down depleted doust' man, don't ever tell Tech you can't
our final score Georgia Tech twenty eight, number four Miami
twenty three and on this homecoming Saturday, let us celebration
begin here at Bobby Don.

Speaker 7 (31:01):
Stadium, Georgia Tech Radio Network from lear Field as the
Yellowjackets take down the fourth ranked Hurricanes twenty eight twenty
three Miami losing in spite a great performance from cambod
three touchdown passes and three hundred and forty eight yards
through the air, but the Hurricanes suffering their first loss
of the season. Number three Georgia losing on the road

(31:22):
to number sixteen oll miss twenty eight to ten as
Carson Beck really struggled an interception of fumble. He was
also sacked five times. Number eleven Alabama winners in a
death valley at number fifteen LSU forty two to thirteen
to tied, rolling Number twelve Boise State getting by Nevada
a twenty eight to twenty one Kansas with the upside

(31:44):
against number seventeen Iowa State forty five, thirty six Virginia
winners at number eighteen Pit twenty four nineteen and number
twenty four Missouri beats Oklahoma thirty two twenty three man.
The Sooners have a really struggled in their first season
an SEC play, as they're just one in five in
the Conference Texas with another win as the Longhorns getting

(32:08):
five touchdown passes from Quinn Viewers to beat Florida forty
nine to seventeen. Number two Ohio State shutting out Purdue
forty five nothing in top ranked Oregon thirty nine eighteen
winners against marilynd Back to you, Bernie, All.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
Right, Jeff.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
You know the Kansas City Chiefs, going back to last year,
have won ten games.

Speaker 3 (32:30):
In a row. How far can this go? Let's compare it.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
To some of the longest streaks in the history of
professional sports. I'm Bernie Fraderwar comedy Line from Las Vegas,

Every Sunday morning, listen to Countdown to Kickoff presented by
BETMGM right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
And the iHeart Radio app.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
You know, the Kansas City Chiefs pretty much never lose,
going back to last season, They've won ten games.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
In a row.

Speaker 2 (33:44):
Now they're eight to no this year, which means there
are nine games left in the regular season. They've got
Denver home later today Sunday, and then of course they
had Touffalo next.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
Week, which will be not easy.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
But should they prevail, I'm not predicting this, but you
know what the conversation is going to be. Can they
run the table? It's only inevitable. God rest his soul.
Too bad Mercury re morses and still around. He could
stand on the sidelines and ru for him to fail,
which was his forte for the last four decades. He was,
of course part of the great nineteen seventy two Miami

(34:25):
Dolphins team that wins seventeen too. And when Brady and
the New England Patriots lost in the Super Bowl, I
guess it was forty two eight what regardless whatever it
was that broke that stream. Okay, they came this close.

(34:46):
Well where am I going with this? So if the
Chiefs were to have went out the nine remaining games
in the regular season, when the divisional game, when the
championship of the AFC, and then of course advanced the
Super Bowls three more wins, that's.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
That would put them at at at twenty and oh
this year. And add that a check that checked that, yes.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
And then the two games they won last year at
the end of the season. Now, the twenty three to
twenty oh four Patriots won twenty one games in a row.
The Chiefs can break that record. The Chiefs could win
more than twenty one games in a row because again
they've they've already won eight. Add that to the two

(35:32):
last year, there's nine games were left in the regular season.
That would be nineteen heading into the Playoffs, two playoff games,
and then the Super Bowl. If that'd be twenty two
in a row, they would beat the three to h
four Patriots. Now in the NHL, by the way, the
all time record is held by the ninety ninety three
Pittsburgh Penguins. They won seventeen n row. And in Major

(35:57):
League Baseball, I don't remember this. I don't think I
was paying attention back in nineteen sixteen. I didn't follow
the New York Giants, the New York Baseball Giants on Twitter.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
They actually won twenty six games in a row.

Speaker 2 (36:10):
But the Kramvill La Creme, the all time greats, the
nineteen seventy one seventy two Los Angeles Lakers, and I
know my good buddy Steve Hartman can recite this backward
and forwards. They won thirty three games in a row.
They had the fifty three year anniversary of that on Tuesday,
when the Lakers won the first of their thirty three

(36:32):
consecutive games, which still remains the longest winning streak across
all four major North American sports leagues. Let me tell
you the Lakers earned it. They won sixteen of those
games on the road and seventeen at home half and
half basically, and this Laker team was not a bunch

(36:55):
of ham and agers. They won twenty three of those
games by double digits. I had some guys you may
have heard of, like Jerry West, Will Chamberlain, Gail Goodrich.
They played every single game of the streak. Flew commercial too,
no load management. The three of them averaged per night

(37:18):
sixty five points, twenty nine rebounds, and nineteen assists.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
How's that for a big three, A real big three.

Speaker 2 (37:27):
Here's an interesting footnote on the team, and I'm quite
sure my good buddy Steve Hartman knows this as well.
Elgin Baylor was one of five future Hall of Famers
on that roster. But ironically, again we're back to irony.
They did it without a Hall of Famer. Remember, irony
is when the firehouse is burning down. Coincidence, you know, Hey,

(37:48):
I saw Mike at the ballgame. Ironically, No, that was coincidental. Ironically,
Elgin Baylor retired nine games into that season, and ironically,
the streak, the thirty three game winning streak where they
won seventeen games in zero sixteen on the road and
won twenty three to them by double digits. I'm talking

(38:08):
about the seventy three Los Angeles Lakers. Check that I
got that wrong. Seventy one to seventy two Lakers, What's
wrong with me? They won the championship that year. The
streak began the first game after Elgin Baylor's retirement.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
Amazing.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
Jerry West went on to say, this is the greatest
team I've ever been on. We had a lot of
different personalities, but when you watched that team on the floor,
it was like one mind thinking alike. So listen, dinas
d's are good for sports because the opposite of love.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
Is not hated, it's indifference. You have to care.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
There'll be people rooting against the Chiefs. If they run
the table and win the Super Bowl, that'll be twenty
two wins in a row, which would best the three
to four New England Patriots. As you recall, the pay
Streets went to the Super Bowl that year and one
as well. The nineteen ninety two ninety three Penguins won
seventeen in a row, New York Giants twenty six in

(39:08):
erow and the Lakers thirty three in a row. And
now they got a kid named Bronnie James, so maybe
they'll break that record. We're going to talk about that later.
I'll be talking about that in the Malor Show too.

Speaker 3 (39:17):
Coming up. Time for a little Medena Magic. We dive
into the NBA. There is oodles and oodles of news
in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
I'm Bernie Frattle or Comedy Life from Las Vegas Fox

in the books. In boy, what a raucous series of
one news story after another. That's why every Saturday night
at midnight Pacific, we bring you Yep, it's that time.
Mark Medina Medina Magic, our Fox Sports Radio NBA guru.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
Very much. Finger on the pulse. Mark.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
It never fails. There's always there's always news. And I
want to kind of start a three hundred thousand feet
and descend downward. What is happening with Greg Popovich. Certainly
we wish him the best, but I hear the situation
is maybe a little more serious than we really realize.

Speaker 9 (40:38):
Well, we don't know, because you know, the Spurs, you know,
operate a lot of secrecy. You know, obviously you never
take things lightly when a seventy five year old coach
has an illness. But for what it's worth, when the
Spurs were in town in La last week, they didn't
sound necessarily concerned. There was a lot of optimism that

(40:59):
he was going to be back now. They did have
the timeline being indefinite, but I was at least comforted.
It wasn't like they were speaking about them as if
they're delivering any sort of eulogy or uh, you know,
expressing any concern that this is going to be what
it is throughout the rest of the season. I think
the sense an expectation is it's just a matter of

(41:22):
when popp will return to the sideline, not if.

Speaker 2 (41:26):
Is it a hard issue? Is that what's happening here
because he had a hard issue years ago as well.

Speaker 6 (41:31):
We don't know.

Speaker 9 (41:32):
I I don't know that, uh, you know, the Spurs
haven't certainly shared details. I can just tell you that,
you know, player comments, ficure webit Nyama, you know, said
recently that you know that he knows he's going to
come back soon. Now, the players and when he talked
to Wemby or Chris Paul or really anyone else down
the roster, they have said that they haven't been in

(41:55):
touch directly with Pop, but that's because you know, they're
just trying to respect the chain of command, so to speak.
Acting head coach Mitch Johnson has been, uh, you know,
in touch with Pop and again his words were that
he expects him there to be back soon. So you know,
we don't know when that will be, but it will
still be at some point, all right.

Speaker 2 (42:17):
Talking with Mark Medina Medina Magic every Saturday night at midnight,
we let's put a camper on Julian beiid uh you
know he was he was meeted out Justice for three games.
Your thoughts on where that stands right now? I think
some people were vent that Marcus Hayes wasn't taken off
the beat. Just take this wherever you want to take it,

(42:38):
because I think the story is still there.

Speaker 9 (42:40):
Yeah. Well, I think as far as the NBA suspension
goes goes, I think three games is reasonable. You know,
I was expecting somewhere in the single digits one through five.
I think the NBA obviously wanted to send a message
that whether you dislike or like what a medium member writes,
you can't you know, put a hand on them. You

(43:00):
can't you know, have a physical altercation. I think the
NBA statement made it clear that they found Marcus's column
to be personal in nature. But even if so, you know,
Joe Beach can't react like that now, you know, as
far as the suggestion you made, why isn't the NBA
done anything of Marcus Ay's Look like Marcus doesn't work

(43:22):
for the NBA. That's looks the Philadelphia Inquirer, they feel
like if they if they feel like they should discipline them.
But I think from the Philadelphia Inquirer stands, they stood
up for Marcuss just under the guys that you know,
he's a columnist, He's allowed to have opinions. Now, what
did they do internally as far as you know, why

(43:42):
he talked about his late young brother in a column
to make a point about being available during the season.
Who knows, but yeah, the league wasn't going to do
anything because they don't give them a paycheck. And I
think that all professional sports, you know, not that they've
never revoked credentials for media members, but it has to

(44:04):
take a lot for that to happen because the last thing, uh,
you know, professional sports leagues want to be perceived, whether
it's in reality or just perception, that you know, they're
credentially in people based on how critical or positive they're
coverage is. They don't want to go down that road.
It's more about, you know, are they with actual news organizations,

(44:25):
what their circulation is, et cetera, as opposed to trying
to you know, play favorite so to speak.

Speaker 2 (44:31):
No, I think I think that's well stated. All Right,
I want to talk about the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (44:35):
It's an interesting week.

Speaker 9 (44:37):
Browdy James is a performance today for the South Bay Lakers.

Speaker 3 (44:41):
Right he was? He was?

Speaker 2 (44:42):
Yeah, he was amazing, two for nine, well for four
from behind the arc, five turnovers. I got to say, listen,
I would have paid the two hundred bucks to see
Quincy Alaveri or Maxwell Lewis. I don't know about you.
Let's save that for the end. Let's save the best
for last that I love brow Oh, I love this guy.
Here's the situation, I really actually love JJ Reddick. So

(45:06):
Tuesday night he makes a command decision with d LO
and then afterwards of the press conference has the mic
drop moment. I don't care what the Lakers do this year.
They might not even make the DAN playoffs, but this
is going to be a fun year. However, it seems
that at least for one game, coming off the bench
and the complimentary and laudatory comments JJ Reddick had about
his team's performance the other night was a good bounce back.

Speaker 3 (45:30):
After the game when he had that, when.

Speaker 2 (45:32):
JJ Redick had the mic drop, what's the situation between
JJ Reddick and D'Angelo.

Speaker 9 (45:39):
Russells Well, as you referenced, JJ Reddick did not like
Dangel Russell's effort in the Memphis game. You know, there
was a specific defensive possession where he was just behind
and trailing, and then the next literally the next playoff offense,
he took kind of a half you know what jumper
that was blocked and then didn't get back well on defense,

(45:59):
JJ Redick was very upset about it. Now he had said,
for what it's worth, well rewinded He then didn't play
a lot that game, and you know, JJ mentioned that,
you know, some of it had to do with just
the lack of competitiveness. Now, he did say before the
Sixers game on Friday that those visible viral moments of him,

(46:20):
you know, on the chair wasn't necessarily just because of
D'Angel Russell's play. It was kind of the culmination of
the entire game. But you know, he did come off
the bench. JJ Reddick said it wasn't necessarily punishment. It
was about getting Cam Reddish in the lineup because a
he's a really good defender, and b the Lakers bench

(46:41):
has really struggled so far this season with scoring, and
d Angel Russell is a score I think what's interesting
here is, at least in the short term, Dangel Russell
was not only professional, he was also productive, and I
think that's very telling for a few things. He and
JJ Reddick have had a pretty good relationship. They talked
a lot this summer about how he can take his

(47:01):
game to a next level. JJ has really stressed it's
out about numbers, it's about impact on winning. And I
think that D'Angel Russell really likes JJ reddicks preparation knowledge
of the game, et cetera. But when it comes down
to how JJ managed in D'Angel Russell, he benched him
a lot earlier than even Darvin Ham did last season.

(47:22):
He benched him even a lot earlier then when Dilo
was in his rookie season with the Lakers with Byron Scott,
who was kind of the face of you know at
the time, someone who wasn't really high on Dangelo's So
this hasn't been This has been a common thing throughout
his career. But for what it's worth, D'Angel is a
lot more professional with it. And while the starting line

(47:46):
of is fluid, if D'Angelo comes off the bench, there
is some reasonable optimism that there's a better buy in
because of JJ reddicks x's nose savvy as well as
just the way he struck a relationship with him.

Speaker 2 (48:00):
By the way, the reason I made this statement the
extemporaneo statement about the Lakers, I don't know they're going
to make the playoffs. I'm being honest. You're the only
team in the winning record who has a point differential
in the negative, and then Clippers actually got a better record.

Speaker 3 (48:11):
We're on goal with this.

Speaker 2 (48:14):
Are the Cleveland Cavaliers for real, I mean none of
the really good. How are they for real?

Speaker 9 (48:19):
Yeah? They are for real?

Speaker 3 (48:21):
I mean they I mean the NBA Finals.

Speaker 2 (48:22):
This is what I'm talking about, for real, and that's
what I'm talking about.

Speaker 9 (48:25):
Yeah, they're for real now, I think. You know, when
I've talked to people around the league, the prevailing sentiment
it was the Boston salary. It's not like they're doing poorly.
They're eight and two, right, But yeah, when you talk
to people about Cleveland, people were high on Kenny Atkinson.
He came from Golden State as an assistant coach. He's
already had previous head coaching experience with the Brooklyn Nets.

(48:46):
He knows his stuff. Now, I think the m on
Kenny Atkins is growing offensive mind that he is. The
thought was, Okay, he's a great head coach when you're
trying to rebuild and you're trying to develop players. But
he hadn't proven he can be a head coach with
star players and the team that's ready to contend. And look,
those questions aren't founded. I mean they're just dominated. I

(49:09):
mean most of their wins are by double digit margins,
and they do have a good core. Obviously, with Donovan
Mitchell running the show, Derris Scarland sharing the backcourt, Evan
Mobley and Jared Allen compliment each other in the front court.
So they do have a good team. They have star talent,
but as we know in the NBA, you know, having
a good head coach can help manage all that star

(49:33):
talent as well as you know, putting them in a
position to see as far as how they develop players
and make a game adjustments.

Speaker 2 (49:40):
Absolutely, and Kenny we talked about the Kenny Atkinson higher
and we both give it a big thumbs up and
good for them.

Speaker 3 (49:46):
I'd love to see it.

Speaker 2 (49:47):
I think it's a great story for the NBA now
and versly your respective of their nineteen point loss to
the Cavaliers, the Golden State Warriors, it looks pretty good.

Speaker 3 (49:59):
Are they for.

Speaker 9 (50:01):
They are for real? I mean, look, when you have
Steph Curry on your team, you can never rule them out.
But I think clearly they've shown that this isn't just
Steph Curry carrying them by himself. This is a real team.
They have a lot of positional depth, you know. They
when you talk to people the Warriors, they talk about
strength and numbers. That was the slogan that they had

(50:22):
during their first championship run. But I think this is
a little bit different because the Warriors had more all
start out because they also had Klay Thompson, They had
Andre Gudowell on the team, and they had a really
good bench. But there are more veteran players here. It's
a mix of kind of young players as well as
solid rotation players. I think you've seen the young players

(50:42):
Shanna think Kaminga and Brandon Ponzemski take their game to
another level so far. Even though you know they miss
Klay Thompson for what he represented, you can argue that
you know by committee they're fine from a shooting standpoint
when you add in Buddy Healed and that looks at
the Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson. Andrew Wiggins has had

(51:04):
a little bit of a bounced back season as well
after having a tough year last year. So yeah, this
is the real deal. I'm not projecting the Warriors will
be a championship contender. I'll pencil them in as a
playoff team.

Speaker 2 (51:17):
And of course you mentioned shooters. One name conspicuously missing
Klay Thompson, but he'll be there Tuesday night in San Francisco.
They're going to have a special salute Captain Clayne. They're
going to give out eighteen thousand tats. Kind of a
nice gesture of the Warriors. Are there is the NBA
making that publicity.

Speaker 9 (51:35):
Here, Well, this is very typical when players come back
after leaving the team. They'll do the video tribute, but
I think.

Speaker 2 (51:41):
The Warriors want to take it up another George Mark.

Speaker 9 (51:46):
Right then, the Warriors will not believe Kwi Thompson because
he helped them win championships. Even though they clearly kind
of similar to the Clippers. They didn't want to pay
Kway Thompson the kind of money he was expecting. They
very well know what he meant to the organization. He
obviously has had some ups and downs, you know, you know,
since his injuries in twenty nineteen, but they very well

(52:09):
recognized that he was a critical part of their championship
runs as well as when he came back. Even though
he wasn't the same player, he was still a valuable
piece on that twenty twenty two NBA championship team. So look,
every fan is going to get the Captain Clay hat.
There's going to be a video tribute. They've already put
it on record that no one's ever going to wear

(52:29):
the number eleven again, so his jersey's going to be
retired in the rafters. So I'm sure it's going to
be an emotional night. But also knowing both sides, I
think Clay is really going to want to have a
good game against his former teammates as well as vice versa,
because Clay wants to show that he's an all Star
caliber player, and the Warriors Draymond Green's already said that

(52:50):
he's going to run into his chest and try to
be physical. So there'll be a lot of nostalgia. There'll
also be a lot of competitiveness, very.

Speaker 3 (52:59):
Well deserved of course, for Klay Thompson.

Speaker 2 (53:01):
And I'm willing to bet I'm gonna go out on
limb and say that Clay will not call the fans stupid.

Speaker 9 (53:07):
Just I don't think he'll call them stupid. He'll be
very thankful. Now, I will say in Paul, I don't
want to say in his defense, but I think the
point that he was making on he wasn't calling the
fans stupid. He was saying it was stupid for them
to do him because of this. He didn't just leave
the team passing to be traded. He left because he

(53:29):
got a better offer from another team. So far enough,
he was saying, enough the Clippers made a business decision
not to give me a max offer. I made a
business decision to go to a team that did. And
you know there's no ill will that he has toward
corper management as well as a teammates. It was very
warm as far as the team goes, but obviously there
are a lot more business stands.

Speaker 2 (53:51):
It's kinda he's gotta have a lot more awareness though,
I mean he doesn't. He can. He can parse words
after the game all he wants. But let me tell
you something, everywhere Paul George goes, they don't win.

Speaker 3 (54:02):
They're probably better off signing Boyd George at least.

Speaker 9 (54:05):
Look, he's a two way player. I think he's a
great talent. I don't know that a feeling he could
produce more consistently. Obviously he could be a lot healthier consistently.
But I will add context with these boos because I
was at into its own with the Clipper Sixers game.
It's kind of fitting using this analogy, even though unlike

(54:26):
some of his time with the Clippers, Paul George would
play on back to back possessions. The Clipper fans were
just billing him with road management type intensity. So the
booze it wasn't that dramatic. It was there, but it
wasn't that antagonistic that he thought, Man, this is really personal.

Speaker 2 (54:43):
That's how I felt. But I thought, I'm reacting to
his reaction. Hey, sort of a I wanted to bring
this up. Give you get your thoughts on this. As
you know, the NBA got their seventy seven billion dollars
media right stealer this summer and lo and behold, their
numbers are pretty significantly down according to a group called

(55:05):
Sports Media Watch. When you consider right that the Western
Conference finals last year were the MAVs and the Timberwolves,
right those there, There were a couple of games this
week on T and T that were down seventeen percent
versus a similar type game last year around the same time.

Speaker 3 (55:26):
One of those games between Wemby and.

Speaker 2 (55:28):
Chad Holmgren and Thunder, they drew quite a bit less
than a similar matchup last year. What do you attribute
to the fact that NBA ratings continue to trend down
to open the season.

Speaker 9 (55:41):
Yeah, it is wild. I mean, I think compared to
last season, it's hard to put my finger on and
now I know, you know, Shack and some others have
thought it's just because there's more and more teams shooting
threes and that's not entertaining. But I think that, you know,
my counterpoint would be, as much as I'm like the
nineties basketball, sometimes there's plotting games that didn't involve you know,

(56:04):
star teams like a Michael Jordan of Chicago Bulls. Those
were tough watches. So I think the big picture, I'm
not surprised with the downward and ratings. I mean, this
has been something that has been coinciding with cord cutting
and you know, kind of the devaluing of regular season games.
I thought, because there was a little bit of an

(56:24):
upswing with you know, being further removed from the COVID
era and more guys suiting up four games and there
being some good marquee matchups, that it would kind of
trend in that direction. But you know, even though I
say this, with this past weekend, there have been some
notable injuries, but opening the season, outside of Joel indeed,

(56:47):
mostly everyone's been healthy. I'm pretty surprised with it, but
I think the big picture of not because of just
no matter what the NBA does with trying to add
in season tournament or putting incentives with player participation policy
for guys to suit up in Marquee games, eighty two games,
I think is a big investment for even hardcore NBA

(57:09):
fans to dive into. And because it's not the same
as it once was with everyone trying to suit up,
a lot of the casual fans will think, you know what,
wake me up when the Christmas Games day game starts
and the playoffs starts. So it's a tough problem that
the NBA obviously has to solve, but there's not any
easy solutions.

Speaker 3 (57:30):
Well, the n.

Speaker 2 (57:31):
Season tournaments around the corner, and that I think was
a big hit year one by every metric. So we'll
see how that. We'll see how that goes in their
sophomore season. Okay, let's talk about Bronnie before he made
his debut Saturday night. The comment or the question I
would have for you, what were the factors of Lakers
considered in saying, Okay, you don't have to travel, you'll

(57:53):
only play in home G League games for the South
Bay Lakers. He'll be a home only player, and he's
going to shuffle back and forth between the Rear Lakers
and the South Bay Lakers.

Speaker 3 (58:05):
What's the thinking.

Speaker 9 (58:06):
Here, Well, I will add this, everything here is fluid,
so nothing's concrete as far as home games away games.
I think that they're just trying to figure out what's
the best way for him to develop. The end goal
is to maximize and expedite Brownie's development, So obviously getting

(58:27):
in game reps is important, and frankly you would agree
with this. He's not ready for that on the big stage,
so he needs to play as many games. But there
is I think somewhat of a counter argument that there's
a value in being around the actual team and practicing
with them and going up against NBA players. So I
think the Lakers they're trying to split the difference. But

(58:50):
I don't think it's as simple as saying he's only
playing home games, he's never going to play on the road.
I think that it's going to be just circumstantial as
far as how his player development goes. But to what
you outline, I think that's the rough plan at the beginning.
But again, this plan will be fluid because the main
goal is to maximize his development, and it's not always

(59:13):
you know, one solution to that as far as playing
games or practicing, it's usually a mix of both.

Speaker 2 (59:19):
So if I understand you correctly, it's fluid, kind of
like Bronnie's release.

Speaker 3 (59:25):
When he saw on an elbow. Yeah, just fluid.

Speaker 2 (59:28):
Remember there was a guy back in the day, and
my listeners will know this name, Flynn Robinson.

Speaker 3 (59:34):
His nickname was Instant Points.

Speaker 2 (59:36):
And then, of course I was a stringer for the
o'hrald Examiner when Vinnie Johnson was the microwave for the Pistons.
Bronnie gets right off the bench in Cleveland pops a jumper.
So we got the microwave, which has been taken. We
got Instant Points. What might Bronnie's nickname be given that
fluid jumper he's got.

Speaker 9 (59:57):
I can hear the facetiousness with that.

Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
As I get home, I look that word up.

Speaker 9 (01:00:02):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't think you're being complimentary
when you're talking about this.

Speaker 3 (01:00:08):
Listen, just show me listen.

Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
I have no problem with the charade. My son wants
to play in the NBA call Lebron has just ever
so quickly, Lebron has earned enough sweat equity and he's
made the Lakers at bazillion dollars.

Speaker 3 (01:00:24):
Fine, you want your son to come on and play.
I got no problem with that.

Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
Yeah, it's an entertainment medium. But please don't keep trying
to sell me he's an NBA player. Show me, show
me he's an NBA player. You got two other guys
on that roster that no one has ever heard of.
Quincy Oliveri twenty eight points and ten rebound, six assists,
Maxwell Lewis twenty seven points and Bron He's taking up
all the air in the room and it's two hundred

(01:00:48):
dollars worth of ticket. He's played four games. Now I'm
mixed up. I thought you bought, you know, finish up
your little game and hit the road. You can have
your seven million bucks. Whatever this is now getting silly,
I'd be journalistically dishonest if if I wasn't you know
you didn't hear this kind of vitriol in my voice.

Speaker 9 (01:01:06):
You got the last word, well, well and playing along
with your facetiousness here. I did think of the nickname.
It's not a riddle, but it gave me some time.
Call him the prince since Lebron's the king. BRONI is
the Prince. Obviously I'm being facetious.

Speaker 3 (01:01:21):
We'll have to check with Prince on that.

Speaker 9 (01:01:23):
They'll go ahead, Okay, go, yeah, that's that's fair. I think,
you know, obviously the end game is make sure that
he can become a competent player. And you know, to
your point, he made his first shot, but he did
not shoot the ball well two for nine overall, zero
for four from three. I think if there yeah, five turnovers,

(01:01:43):
you know, hey, he had four assists and two seals,
if there is a lane for him to perfect or
at least, you know, somewhat master at Clearly it's on
the defensive end because his shot, his shot, as we've
discussed that nauseum here is an iss you. He's also
not seen as a descendive guard, like is he a

(01:02:05):
shooting guard or point guard. He doesn't have that defined
role on that end. So I think really it's about
can you be a good multi faceted defender at the
one or two and just hustle and make a lot
of intangibles. And I think to Browny's credit, he's willing
to take on that. He has a positive attitude, he
works hard, he's embraced the G League. He's never said, hey,

(01:02:28):
like this is beneath me, this is this is what
he's fine with to sign up for because he wants
to get better. But I think to your overall point,
he's not NBA player yet and you could do without
the hype. But you know, I guess it's better than
if you were just to say on the Lakers and
not playing the G League at all.

Speaker 2 (01:02:46):
Well, we'll continue to follow the story because they're forcing
us to, and I would just say this, he is
a good kid. He's respectful, he's respectful, he plays hard,
he does have some court sense and uh, you know,
we'll see, we'll see. You know, Rome wasn't built a day, right,
It actually took several thousand years from what I understand.

Speaker 9 (01:03:03):
I'm just throwing this out here. I mean, maybe we
could do our live radio show at the next Sprawney
game in the South with the South Fair Lakers.

Speaker 3 (01:03:13):
Let me consider that.

Speaker 2 (01:03:16):
Let me get back right right after I lighted my
hair on fire and put it out with a tag hammer.

Speaker 3 (01:03:20):
Actually got a shaved head. That bad analogy?

Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
Mark, great stuff as always, Man, Thanks so much. We'll
talk to you next week. Thanks so much, well, Mark, Medina, Medina,
Magic Finger on the Pulse. Bernie Frattle Show continues. You
are listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (01:03:37):
Goalway.

Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
All right back on the Bernie Fradle Show, It's time
to dive into the National Football League. Who's trending up,
who's trending down, all kinds of tidbits as we head
into Week eleven. It kicks off here in about six
hours from Germany. But first let's go to our guy,
the chef, Kevin Wyren, with the.

Speaker 7 (01:03:58):
Latest chaotics on Saturday in at college football. We're certainly
gonna see a change in the playoff rankings when they
are released later this upcoming week. As Number three Georgia
losing to Ole Miss on the road twenty eight to ten,
So the Bulldogs now seven to two, five and two

(01:04:18):
in SEC play, and that's important because they have been surpassed. Now,
they've been leapfrogged by Tennessee, Texas, A and M and
Texas in those SEC standings. So we'll see exactly how
war the Georgia Bulldogs will rank in the pecking order
when the next playoff rankings are released. Number four Miami
suffering their first loss of the season. The Hurricanes now

(01:04:42):
nine to one as they go on the road to
lose a Georgia Tech twenty eight to twenty three. The
top two teams having easy times of it. Number one
Oregon thirty nine eighteen winners at home against Maryland. Number
two Ohio State shuts out Perdue forty five to nothing.
Number nine BYU on the road at their heated rival Utah,

(01:05:03):
and they were trailing by two with less than a
minute Togo march down the field to kick the game
winning field goal to remain undefeated at nine and oh.
Number five Texas forty nine to seventeen winners at Florida
at home against Florida as quin Yours throws a five
touchdown passes penn State thirty five six against Washington and

(01:05:24):
Nidney Lions win it. Tennessee's a thirty three to fourteen
winner against Mississippi State. Number eight Indiana. The Who's just
for the first time in a school history are ten
and Oh. They do get by Michigan twenty to fifteen.
Number ten Notre Dame fifty two to three winners against
Florida State. Number eleven. Alabama goes into Death Valley and

(01:05:45):
the tied roll against number fifteen LSU forty two to
thirteen Number twelve Boise State trying to keep themselves as
the top group of five team, trying to get that
playoff spot as a but they had a tougher time
than expected against Nevada. But the Roncos do it on
the blue turf twenty eight to twenty one Kansas with
an upset as a beat Iowa State forty five to

(01:06:06):
thirty six Virginia over number eighteen Pittsburgh twenty four to
nineteen Number twenty Colorado. The Buffs now seven and two.
They get a road win against Texas Tech forty one,
twenty seven number twenty three Clemson twenty four to fourteen
winners against Virginia Tech. Number twenty four Missouri hangs on
for a thirty twenty three win against Oklahoma. The Sooners

(01:06:26):
now just one in five in their first season in
SEC play, and number twenty five Army they remain undefeated.
The Black Knights do nine to zero a fourteen to
three win against North Texas spec to you, Bernie.

Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
All right, chef, So.

Speaker 2 (01:06:42):
We have to take a harder look maybe at the
Baltimore Ravens. I've never sold because until they actually do
it in January. And I've I love Lamar Jackson. I've
always believed he's way better than pocket, you know, way
better than average pocket passer that people don't give him
credit for. I think he's a winner. But for some reason,
it's never translated in January. So last since my last show,

(01:07:06):
the Baltimore has not played two games. You saw what
happened Thursday night, a fast and furious comeback against the
Cincinnati Bengals, But remember what happened last week as well.
The Broncos last week faced the Baltimore Ravens. Began the
week with the top ranked defense, but the Ravens, who
are now seven to three, they completely hammered that top

(01:07:28):
ranked defense forty one to ten. Lamar Jackson last Sunday
posted his second perfect passer rating of the year. And
by the way, Derek Henry, who's just paying dividends right
and left one hundred and six rushing yards two touchdowns.

Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
Say Flowers as having a year. If this taught us anything,
and it was.

Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
Followed up again Thursday night that unless we see it,
we have to assume right now that no one can
stop Baltimore's offense. Now We'll see what happens when it
mattered in January, or if they get on the field
with Kansas City. But for now, if we deal with
the here and now, that Baltimore offense is as good
as it gets. Give it up to the Commanders seven
and two. Yes, they hammered the Giants last week. No giants,

(01:08:10):
no great shakes. I expect him to take care of
business in a few hours here at in Germany. But
to see Jayden Daniels and company barely miss a beat
without their starting running back Brian Robinson, who's been outstanding.
He was in active last week with a hamstring. Very impressive,
very impressive. Impressive, next span up. And this is the

(01:08:31):
very reason why running backs they're not devalued.

Speaker 3 (01:08:34):
They're just more interchangeable. For some reason.

Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
Austin Eckler Jeremy mcnicholsy brought up a practice s guard
player last week. The Commandos did name Chris Rodriguez. They
all combined for one hundred and fifteen yards rushing, put
up twenty seven points against New York Commanders.

Speaker 3 (01:08:51):
Give them credit.

Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
We'll talk about their Sunday game coming up later in
the show. Saquon Barkley continues to just be a legend
with that legendary hurdle. Thirty touches last week, one hundred
and ninety nine yards, two touchdowns. I think right now,
if the vote was today, Saquon Barkley would win Offensive
Player of the Year. The Eagles six and two, firmly

(01:09:13):
in contention for the NFC Crown. They visit Dallas later today,
will handicap that game a little bit later fees and
I already did.

Speaker 3 (01:09:22):
Kind of likes the points.

Speaker 2 (01:09:22):
He may not be wrong Dallas getting seven, but they're
definitely gonna need Saquon Barkley is listening. I understand Jalen
Hurts is a little banged up, not sure to what degree.
AJ Brown left the game last week against Jacksonville with
a knee situation, but he is back Sunday. But you
never know, And right now there's a team Philadelphia that

(01:09:45):
might start being playing to their potential.

Speaker 3 (01:09:49):
Look.

Speaker 2 (01:09:50):
One thing that happened last week that has been talked about,
and even Tom Brady questioned it the call online safety
Brian Branch.

Speaker 3 (01:09:57):
He was ejected for a helmet to helmet hit.

Speaker 2 (01:10:00):
Targeting does not normally result in an ejection, and Branch
responded by giving the Green Bay fans a double peace sign,
and everybody must have been chippy.

Speaker 3 (01:10:09):
Last week they normally.

Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
Affable Puka Nakua, who's a hell of a receiver and
a hell of a guy. He was forced to leave
the game for throwing a punch in retaliation after opponent's
bush and I know fantasy owners aren't happy about that.
But the four and four Rams won anyway. They won
on the road, finally, real quickly, before we get to
the team's trending downward, the NFC's got this crazy wild

(01:10:31):
wild West. It's the closest division in football now Sean
McVay and the Rams started owing too. Since then, they've
been foreign two. They're four and four. They host Miami
Monday Night. The Seahawks, who were once three and ohero
now are four and five and Arizona the division's leader.
They started one and three, and after convincingly beating Chicago

(01:10:53):
twenty nine to nine last week, the Arizona Cardinals lead
the division. They're five and four. But here's what I
think will happen. The Niners are four and four. I
get that they haven't been great, they've been banged up,
but ironically, back to that word, they hold the division's
only positive point differential, yet they're in third place. Guess

(01:11:16):
who they get back later today at Tampa Bay Christian McCaffrey.
And if you don't think that matters, well, put this
in your pipe and smoke it. Christian McCaffrey has played
twenty seven career games with the forty nine Ers, and
with Christian McCaffrey in the lineup, they're twenty two to

(01:11:37):
five without them, their seven and eight. With Christian McCaffrey,
they average twenty nine points six points a game. Without them,
they average twenty three third down conversion. With Christian McCaffrey,
they convert forty eight percent of the time, without them
forty one.

Speaker 3 (01:11:51):
Percent of the time. But here's the kicker in the
red zone.

Speaker 2 (01:11:54):
The Niners red zone offense with Christian McCaffrey scores sixty
eight percent of the time, without a twenty eight percent
of the time. Finally, you got to give a winking
and nod to Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers defense. Now,
I will tell you this man. You know, when you
go against Jameis Winston, he's an interception machine. He threw
three last week, you know, not one, not two, but

(01:12:17):
three turnovers. The Chargers win twenty seven to ten. But
the Chargers also sacked Jamis Winston six six times, and
all of a sudden, this team's five and three. They've
already tied their win total for all of twenty twenty three.
But here's here's the statistic you simply can't ignore about
the Chargers defense. Very quietly. They're allowing an NFL low

(01:12:37):
twelve point six points per game, for context, the only
season long performance anywhere near that mark in the past
twenty years with the twenty of six Baltimore Ravens. Yeah,
the Ray Lewis said red team. They allow twelve points
seven points per year. That Baltimore unit ranks is one
of the best defensive units in history.

Speaker 3 (01:12:56):
Can the Chargers keep this up? We're gonna find out.

Speaker 2 (01:12:59):
But it's no serious you know, development hardball teams play
good defense. Coming up, we talk about the teams that
are scuffling, and they better get busy living or get
busy dying. See what they did there. I'm Bernie Frattle.

you pick yourself up, dust yourself off.

Speaker 3 (01:14:17):
When you move ahead.

Speaker 2 (01:14:18):
The problem is they did it with Joe Flacco behind center,
and he struggled. It was his worst offensive performance.

Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
Of the year.

Speaker 2 (01:14:27):
Now I know when Joe Flacco got off the Barker
Launger laster before he went to Cleveland Holbot, you say, oh,
Joe Flacco to how we doing here? This guy he's
so old as blood type has discontinued. But you saw
what Joe Flacco did. The problem is Anthony Richardson can't play.
So if the Colts don't have a quarterback, I don't know.
Maybe they can get one from University of Michigan. But

(01:14:48):
the bottom line is this. It's not to start they
wanted from Flacco.

Speaker 3 (01:14:52):
But listen, it's a.

Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
Situation where if the Colts don't figure this out, and
they're a good team, they're a good team. They're not
a great team, but they're a good team, and they
host a tough Buffalo Bills team Sunday. So it's one
of those situations where the Colts are going to have
to figure out what they're going to do regarding a

(01:15:15):
franchise quarterback. You can say whatever day, whatever you want
about Nanthey Richison. He's a good guy, great athlete. He's
not a major league quarterback. If you can't see that,
then you have, you know, different thoughts. I guess the
New York Giants are probably very happy to be playing
in Germany here where they kick off in about what
five hours and forty minutes. They's somehow owned five at

(01:15:38):
Metlight City this year. They lost to the rival Washington
Commandos last week. By the way, you know, misery loves company.
The only other team that's winless at home this year
happens to be in their division.

Speaker 3 (01:15:52):
That would be the Dallas Cowboys. They're own three.

Speaker 2 (01:15:56):
And the Cowboys are actually home Sunday against Philadelphia with
Cooper Rush. Now, Cooper Rush five and one is a
starter starting for Dak Prescott looks like he's out for
the year, but Cooper Rush hasn't started the game in
two years, one month, and twenty five days. Do that
what you will, but boy, when need to start out
zero and five at home? The future doesn't look bright

(01:16:19):
for the New York Giants, although I do expect him
to take care of business. I really do. I expect
the Giants. The favorites typically win in London. The Giants
are not a good team, but they're slightly better than
what their record is actually, So it just feels like
this game is like a twenty three to thirteen type game.

Speaker 3 (01:16:38):
We'll see, we'll see.

Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
Meanwhile, the Cowboys, yes three and five major costs for
concern if you're Jerry Jones. Dak Prescott will exit twenty
twenty four with three victories.

Speaker 3 (01:16:50):
Man, it's sixty million a year. That's the hell.

Speaker 2 (01:16:52):
What the hell, that's the only twenty million per victory.
Jerry's getting return on his dollar there. And look, Dak trick,
he's really just not a championship quarterback. You could cheat
the trainers examining his hand. It was full of blood
last week. And then I'm thinking what happened? And then
turns out he's out with a hamstring injury. He said

(01:17:13):
he felt something pull. He said he felt something he
never felt. It must be pretty serious, maybe torn. But
he's getting season ending surgery. And I hate to be
that guy. You know, people will say I hate to
tell you I told you so.

Speaker 3 (01:17:26):
No they don't.

Speaker 2 (01:17:27):
They love the day we told you so. So I
guess I'll be guilty of that. For one minute, I
said the Cowboys, this would be the year they went
off a cliff. Eight and nine is what my prediction
would be. They may not even make a tait to
nine when you got a lame duck coach playing basically
without a contract. I know, Dak and Ceedee Lamb went
end of the year, wanted to get paid. Just a
lot of uncertainty around that team, and that permeated, and

(01:17:49):
I just think it was a matter of time.

Speaker 3 (01:17:52):
Three straight, twelve and five seasons.

Speaker 2 (01:17:53):
Anyway, Derek Carr, Derek Carr, you know, in Derek Carr,
we don't trust. The Saints, by the way, lost twenty
three to twenty two to the lowly Panthers last week
and Derek Carr made his return. He has the distinction now,
Derek Carr, wait for it, of being the only quarterback

(01:18:15):
in NFL history to lose to thirty one different teams.
By the way, he plays the Raiders in week thirty two,
Week seventeen, and that could be that could be lost
number thirty two if Derek Carr loses to the Raiders.
In the meantime, we continue with the NFL. We have
all kinds of trends that'll be in play heading this weekend.

(01:18:38):
And you know, by the way, it's more Derek Carr fun.
You know, he has the most losses as a starting
quarterback in the last ten seasons with eighty seven. More
fun on Derek Carr later, keep it locked. You listened
to the Bernie Fradlels Show on Fox Sports Radio. Well,
that's right, you heard the man Bernie. Bernie Fraddles show
keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Fredo. We

(01:19:02):
are comedy line from the tiract dot com studios here
in Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio. Tyrac dot com will
help you get there an unmanched selection, fast free shipping
for your rodazard protection and over ten thousand recommended installers
tyrac dot com.

Speaker 3 (01:19:17):
The way tire buying.

Speaker 2 (01:19:20):
Should be many interesting sort of I'll use the word trend.
These are more tidbits of information that you might impress
your friends with at the bar as you head into
this NFL weekend which is upon us. Obviously, we've got
one game of the books Thursday night Cincinnati and Baltimore,

(01:19:42):
and at about five and a half hours the New
York Giants at Alion Stadium in Munich. We'll kick it
off against the Carolina Panthers. And currently I think that
the Giants are up to like six and a half
point favorites. But be that as it may, how about
those Chiefs. The Chiefs face the Broncos. They're sixteen and

(01:20:07):
one straight up, ten and seven against the spread in
their last eighteen games against the Broncos. I talked about
this game earlier with Steve Feesick. This may be one
of those situations where the eight points that the Broncos
are getting offer pretty.

Speaker 3 (01:20:23):
Darn good value. They got embarrassed.

Speaker 2 (01:20:27):
The Broncos got embarrassed last week by the Baltimore Ravens,
and I always managed to like teams who were embarrassed
the week before that sort of rally the following week
and right the ship. By the way, not for nothing,
the Broncos are three and one against the spread at
as road underdogs this year.

Speaker 3 (01:20:47):
And let's also not.

Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
Forget the Chiefs not only play Buffalo next week. They're human,
not saying they're looking ahead, but they're human. But they
are also coming off an overtime game last week, and
teams who play an overtime game the week before only
cover the number forty three the following week. Eight points
is a lot. The Bears three and zero straight up

(01:21:10):
and against the spread at home behind Caleb Williams actually
winning by an average of twenty eight to fifteen, Bears
aren't getting any of my money the Chargers, given that
stud defense averaging twelve point six yards. Check that twelve
point six points per game that they are allowing one
and seven to the end of this year under new

(01:21:31):
coach Jim Harbaud. Not surprising because they run the ball
that you clock and they play great defense. The Colts
six and one out right, five to one against the
spread in their last five home games versus the Buffalo Bills.
If you could tell me what kind of quarterback play

(01:21:51):
you're going to get out of the Colts on on
Sunday catching four at home against Buffalo four to three
and a half s Penning, then they might be the side.
But for now, I got to sit that one out.
The Cowboys allowing almost forty two points per game in
their last four home games. How does this happen? Mike

(01:22:11):
Zimmer needs to be you know, needs to answer some questions.
They're also nine to one against the spread in their
last Division ten Division home games. The Cowboys. Now, again,
you don't have Dak Prescott. You do have Cooper Rush
who is starting. He's five and one as a starter
in the NFL, but he hasn't started the game in

(01:22:33):
two years, one month and twenty five days. But you
are getting seven, seven and a half points at home.
The Cowboys. They're really probably the only side to look at.
You gotta hold your nose. You know who the books
are going to need in The ball is in the air.
The Giants, I think, are happy as hell to get
out of metlfe field.

Speaker 3 (01:22:51):
They haven't won a single game there.

Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
Zero to five again, they kick it off and Munich
here in about half an hour, or check that five
and a half hours, I've.

Speaker 3 (01:23:00):
Straight up and against the spread.

Speaker 2 (01:23:01):
The New York Giants are their last five games on
a neutral field, and they're actually four to zero against
the spread versus the Jaguars in their last four games.
Now the New York Jets, this is an interesting game.
They visit Arizona later today. They very plucky Arizona Cardinals.
You have to love the effort that the Arizona Cardinals give.

(01:23:23):
They actually now lead the NFL and the NFC West,
and you know, look, they've got a three game winning streak.
The question is can Kyler Murray stand you know prosperity.
The Jets opened up as a one point underdog. Money
has come in on New York plus one and a half.
Now the Cardinals are getting at home. Do you trust

(01:23:46):
the Jets, especially since they are now four and thirteen
against the spread in their last seventeen away games.

Speaker 3 (01:23:54):
For some reason, we're still paying that Jets tax.

Speaker 2 (01:23:56):
And they won seven games last year with you know,
pretty spotty quarterback play, but you got the Hall of
Famer there, But they're just a dysfunctional mess. Can you
truly trust the New York Jets?

Speaker 3 (01:24:09):
I can't.

Speaker 2 (01:24:11):
The Steelers seven to zero outright, five and two against
the spread in their last seven games following a bye week,
six and one outright against the Commanders. This is a
very interesting game on Sunday, the Commanders laying two and
a half against the visiting Steelers. Washington seven to one
on one against the spread this year, which is second

(01:24:32):
best in the National Football League. Both teams, the Commandos
and the Steelers, feature a three game winning streak. Couple things.
The Steelers are only averaging twenty one points a game
under justin fields, They're now averaging thirty one points a game.
They're two starts with Russell Wilson. This is notable to me,

(01:24:53):
though Mike Tomblin in his career as an underdog, manages
to win those games outright fifty nine percent of the time.
By the way, the Vikings six to zero four one
and one against the spread versus the Jaguars.

Speaker 3 (01:25:10):
I think the Vikings are real.

Speaker 2 (01:25:12):
You know, Sam Donald has come back to Earth a
little bit, but you would expect that one thing I
was remiss to mention Antonio Pearson his staff. The Raiders
lose to the Bengals last week, forty one to twenty four.

Speaker 3 (01:25:25):
They actually Desmond.

Speaker 2 (01:25:26):
Ritter saw a time at quarterback for the Raiders, and
after the game, the Raiders fired their offensive coordinator Luetzi.
They fired an offensive line coach, James Craig, and their
quarterback coach Rich Scangarello. It's a bye week overhaul for
the two and seven Raiders. They ranked twenty eighth in offense.
They're averaging just eighteen points a game. That's twenty sixth

(01:25:49):
and only four point six yards per play. That is
twenty ninth better times ahead, hopefully, if you are a
Raider fan, it's quite an event here when the Raiders
play at Allegiance Stadium. But it's honestly, it's become a
home field disadvantage. You really can't slice it any other way.
I think a lot of season ticket holders may have

(01:26:10):
jumped ship. Can I prove it?

Speaker 4 (01:26:11):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:26:12):
Do I have the data to prove it.

Speaker 2 (01:26:13):
No, it just feels that way, and visiting fans all
too happy to enjoy their time and at the Allegiance Stadium,
which is really quite a beautiful.

Speaker 3 (01:26:23):
Building, by the way.

Speaker 2 (01:26:25):

(01:26:48):
How you heard Kevin's update? The college football playoff is
going to be turned a little bit upside down, not
too dramatically because BYU managed to hold on and Oregon
managed to hold on, but Georgia goes down right and
Miami goes down, although Miami still by virtue of their record,

(01:27:08):
still might right now hold that top seed because again,
this is a championship based tournament, unlike in the past
where you had the you know, the four team made
for TV invitational tournament. You know, I said Friday night
on my show. People didn't like it when they saw

(01:27:29):
that BYU was the fourth seed, and they were not
only going to get a home playoff game, they would
get a bye. Well, if you win your conference, that's
the way this is going to work. So you can't
complain about BYU. And they came back and got it
done Saturday night in Utah.

Speaker 3 (01:27:47):
And the key is.

Speaker 2 (01:27:49):
Is it all arguments with this playoff format are going
to be decided on the field as opposed to the
previous format.

Speaker 3 (01:27:56):
It's championship based. Okay, I get it. The SEA is
better than the Big Twelve.

Speaker 2 (01:28:02):
So if you're Texas or Alabama or LSU or Mississippi
or one of those teams who certainly would be favored
over BYU on a neutral in your butter because you
believe you're better than BYU, fine, succeed from the SEC
and go to a lesser conference. But you're not gonna
do that, are you.

Speaker 6 (01:28:19):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:28:19):
By the way you watch, the SEC will get four
teams in this tournament. When all a said and done,
the Big Twelve will get one. You don't like it,
do something about it. Look, Alan Iverson once said, I
don't like to lift weights because they're heavy, not easy.
By the way, let's have a refresher coming up let's

(01:28:41):
have a refresher on the college football playoff format. Because
we're so focused on whether or not you know this
is going to diminish the regular season. Who deserves to
be there not? You don't even know how it's gonna work.
I can tell exactly how it's gonna work, and I'll
tell you the beauty of it is. It's one hell
of a music chairs money grab. When do you see

(01:29:01):
how much money is up for grab just by making
this tournament. Yes, football fans, be sure to tune into
Fox Sports Radio every Sunday morning beginning ten am Eastern
seventy am Pacific for Contown to Kickoff, presented by bet MGM,
Brian No, Jeff Schwartz, my buddy Professional Better Bill Krachenberger

(01:29:23):
will have you covered three hours before kickoff. Every Sunday morning.
Listen to Countdown to Kickoff, presented by BETMGM. Right here
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Coming up,
we talk about the college football playoff format.

Speaker 3 (01:29:36):
I'm Bernie Frattle.

Speaker 2 (01:29:38):
We're coming to line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio Tiret dot Com studios. Keep it locked. You can
listen to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Hll right back at the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio,
coming to live from the tarret dot Com studios here
in Las Vegas. Yeah, we're forty one minutes away from
the dance Sensation sweep in the nation.

Speaker 3 (01:29:57):
What kind of brand new fool you followed by? What
my name? All Right? I want to talk.

Speaker 2 (01:30:03):
About the new college football Playoff format because you know
that it's here. You have already had the first rankings
and those have been somewhat broken up because of a
couple of upsets Saturday. But let's break it down because
the twelve participating teams will be the four conference champions

(01:30:23):
ranked highest by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee, plus
the next eight highest ranked teams. Is in the past,
the ranking of the teams, well, that part's going to
be done by a selection committee. But if you win
your conference champions champion and you are a power for school,

(01:30:44):
you don't include the Pac two anymore. You're in no
matter what your record is. You could be a three
loss SEC team. Let me tell you, if you win
your conference, it's championship based. You're getting in. You're ever
gonna have a buy and you're evenna have a home game.
So the four highest conference ranked champions are seeded one
through four. They'll receive a first round Buys, I just

(01:31:06):
said the fifth conference champion is going to be seeded
where it was ranked right now, that looks like it's
boys going to be Boise State, or they'll be ranked
at number twelve if they're outside the top twelve rankings.
Non non conference champions ranked in the top four would beginning,
you know, seated four and one. Bubbah, you get the picture.

(01:31:27):
But because of this, here's the deal, the seedings one
through twelve could actually look a little different than the
final rankings. Now, the eight teams seeded five through twelve
will play in a first round, with the higher seeds
hosting the lower seeds either on campus or other sites
designated by the higher seeded institution.

Speaker 3 (01:31:50):
So look, you know, you.

Speaker 2 (01:31:51):
Get twelve five. We talked about that. Right now, it's
Boise State and Ohio State. And I guess it's kind
of tough silly to project potential matchups because with Georgia
going down in Miami going down, they could change BYU
managed to hang in there, but if by you would
have lost. If butts candy and nuts, they'd been tied
with Colorado. Colorado though, as we talked about earlier, you

(01:32:14):
got to give them a lot of credit man, for
what coach Prime has done. If they went out, they're
going to get in the playoff. So that's something to watching.
And this is championship base. It's going to be decided
on the field, not by some committee to smoke phield room. Now,
the selection committee will assign the four highest ranked conference
champions to play in the quarterfinals, hosted by Bulls. That's

(01:32:38):
where you start to hear the names of the Bulls.
This will be done in consideration basically, you know, the
historic bowl relationships, and then in consideration of ranking. So
you'll start to see some of the traditional Bull games
being you know, the.

Speaker 3 (01:32:52):
Front for the College Football Playoff.

Speaker 2 (01:32:57):
Now, the bracket is going to remain in effect throughout
the playoffs. There's not going to be any receding, and
the highest seed is going to receive preferential treatment placement
for this semi final bowl as well.

Speaker 3 (01:33:13):
And and of course.

Speaker 2 (01:33:14):
Uh the you know, all eleven games will be played
under the College Football Playoff umbrella, and you know, all
the policies have followed, but here's it's going to start
December twentieth. I believe it's gonna here. Here's what's really cool.
This is basically going to be a month long ordeal.
And tell me you're not here for it. You got

(01:33:35):
round one and everybody's going to have their hand in
the pie, all right, Round one one of the Round
one games will be hosted by T and T Sports
and various other networks as well.

Speaker 3 (01:33:50):
Right, here's here's the beauty.

Speaker 2 (01:33:52):
By the way, it's December twentieth. They're going to be
competing against the text Chief Steelers Ravens, and also another
Round one game at eight o'clock on ABC ESPN.

Speaker 3 (01:34:05):
But the dates as they go on.

Speaker 2 (01:34:10):
They will start on Friday, December twentieth, and they're going
to continue on all the way through January. January January
twentieth will be when the championship game is. So this
is gonna be quite I think quite the ordeal. And
there's no question that you know, I think it's going

(01:34:33):
to do baffle ratings. And let's talk about the money.
Let's talk about the money real quickly. You've got a
situation where this is ultimately turning into what I would
call in common parlance as a as a musical chair
money grap a musical chair money grap There is one

(01:34:56):
hundred and sixteen million dollars up for grabs to distribute
to all the conferences.

Speaker 3 (01:35:01):
One hundred and sixteen million dollars.

Speaker 2 (01:35:04):
Now, that's based on the teams to qualify for the
College Football Playoff and they advance to subsequent rounds and
I get to the college football team, you know, playoffs
top two leaders and this. You know, they selection committee.
They don't factor in which conferences teams play in. They're
trying to create parity and disparity based on how good

(01:35:27):
these conferences are and based on the current ranking.

Speaker 3 (01:35:30):
What do I mean by that?

Speaker 2 (01:35:33):
So the first pass, which was last Tuesday, ESPN did it.

Speaker 3 (01:35:39):
The Big Ten had four teams.

Speaker 2 (01:35:40):
Oregon obviously very deserving, they're undefeated, Ohio State very deserving.
Their only loss is at Oregon Penn State. They're deserving
on paper. They bug me, but they're deserving. Their only loss,
of course, is to Ohio State in a game they

(01:36:01):
could have easily won. Maybe not easily, but they could
have certainly could have won it. And then Indiana Google them,
Kurt Signetti wins. Google them. They're ten to zero now
they're gonna end up playing Ohio State. I still think
Indiana's got a real path to the playoff, more so
than Penn State does. So look big ten well deserving

(01:36:23):
four teams, the SEC, well deserving Georgia. Now Georgia got
their second loss, but they still have a path to
the playoffs. Texas very well deserving, Tennessee very well deserving,
and Alabama all three to one today LSU the LSU
Alabama game, I think you can scratch LSU off your

(01:36:45):
dance card. I'm not sure their path to the playoff.
And that's the other beauty of this new twelve team playoff.
We had a legitimate college football playoff elimination game Saturday
night in Baton Rouge, where number.

Speaker 3 (01:37:00):
Eleven Bama at six and two played number fifteen.

Speaker 2 (01:37:02):
LSU because both schools had two losses each. Yes, it's
wild that they're still in the playoff conversation, but this
is the new reality. This is the new reality. A
third defeat probably ends their hopes. But think about this.
If this game had been played last year under the
goofy four team TV Invitational Made for TV Invitational Department

(01:37:27):
of Redundancy Department, this game would have been played for pride,
and certainly under the BCS era, and of course, obviously
when there was no playoff back in the day when
the writers would get together and flip a coin and
put their heads together and make a rock pile and
come up with a national champion. I'll never forget nineteen
seventy eight. The USC strolled down to Alabama, very good
Alabama team, Bear Bryant with Jeff routlicher quarterback, and USC

(01:37:51):
was just loaded, maybe one of the greatest college football
teams ever assembled. Forty two players on that roster ended
up in the NFL at one time, other two Heisman
Trophy winners. In the backfield, you had Marcus Allen as
a blocking back for Charles White. They went down to
Alabama and they led handily twenty four to seven in
the fourth quarter, and they ended up winning twenty four

(01:38:14):
to fourteen. And writers had the audacity to vote Alabama.
I think in the eight people as number one USC
and the UPI how would you vote Alabama over USC
when USC beat them by ten points in there at
their home field? All right, that's why this twelve team format.

Speaker 3 (01:38:31):
Is so great. You got the.

Speaker 2 (01:38:34):
SEC with four teams, the big ten with four teams.
The ECC has one team. It's all they deserve. Miami
the big twelve one team right now, BUYU, that's all
they deserve. The Mountain West will have Boise stayed at
the at large, and of course Notre Dame will be
the you know, the independent team in the group. Again,

(01:38:55):
there is one hundred and sixteen million dollars up for
grabs to distribute to conferences based on all these teams
who qualify. And I'll tell you this has created what
I think, phenomenal interest in November games that might not
have it. And I also think it's created, you know,
phenomenal I think matchups whereas in the past where you might.

Speaker 3 (01:39:20):
Look to two teams that aren't necessarily.

Speaker 2 (01:39:24):
Going to find their way into any kind of playoff
because they really didn't exist. Again, I keep calling it
the four team made for TV Invitational. And this is
what I thought at the beginning of the season, because
some people thought the twelve team playoff would shift to
ten or the regular season. Now, two losses for a
national power doesn't mean as much. You saw what happen

(01:39:45):
in the LSU Alabama game. Alabama is live. I think
they're getting in the playoffs. The regular season has not
lost its intensity. That's a fact. There's more to play for.
And by the way, you're not just playing for a bid,
you're also playing to host the first round game on campus,
another aspect of this LA and maybe even earning a
first round by plus, we're gonna get a guaranteed group

(01:40:08):
of five conference in their team. Right now, it looks
like Boise State that's gonna get a guaranteed bid. Tell
me this doesn't move the needle. I think it does.
Coming up, we're gonna bring in the crew, get their thoughts.
Not everybody likes some people see loopholes. I don't you
saw how people lost their mind about BYU being the

(01:40:28):
fourth ranked team and they might get on the field
with the team. A team like Mississippi might not even
make the playoff and they'd be an underdog. But again,
this is championship based. Win your conference. You don't like it,
move to another conference. You're not going to do that,
are you. And as they said, the SEC, they'll get
four teams in this tournament, but the Big twelve they'll

(01:40:49):
probably get one.

Speaker 3 (01:40:50):
They're gonna have to win their conference. So coming up,
we'll chop that up with the crew.

Speaker 2 (01:40:54):
In the meantime, let's go to our guy, Kevin Wirrett
with another baffer performance as the chef.

Speaker 7 (01:41:00):
A little mellow chef tonight, all ball, really keeping it,
keeping it smooth tonight. That's how I like it sometimes.
So anyway, it was really not a smooth day in
college football. In fact, it was a day full of chaos.
As we're gonna see a change in the playoff rankings
very possibly so because number three Georgia going on the

(01:41:23):
road losing to Ole Miss twenty eight to ten, Carson
Beck struggling to take care of the football on Saturday
and interception of fumble five sacks he took. As the
Bulldogs now two losses in SEC play, they get leapfrogged
by teams like A Tennessee, Texas, A and M and
Texas in the overall standing. So we'll see exactly where

(01:41:44):
that leaves Georgia in the pecking order. Number four Miami,
their undefeated season is no more as Georgia Tech went
to twenty eight twenty three. So the Hurricanes now nine
and one. Camp Ward did play very well three hundred
and forty eighty yards and three touchdowns, but the Hurricanes
now join the ranks of the teams that have losses.

(01:42:07):
Number five Texas slow and easy win forty nine to
seventeen five touchdown passes by Quinn yours the top two
teams in the country Oregon in Ohio State, both of
them with easy wins, as the Ducks winning against Maryland
thirty nine eighteen, buck Guy shutting out Purdue of forty
five it's to nothing. Number six Pence State thirty five

(01:42:30):
six winners against Washington as much in before Tennessee wins
against Mississippi State thirty three fourteen. Number eight Indiana the
Hoosiers for the first time in school history ten and
oh they get by Michigan at twenty to fifteen. Elsewhere
in college football, number eleven Alabama going to Death Valley

(01:42:51):
and winning at number fifteen LSU forty two to thirteen.
Jalen Milroe twelve carries one hundred and eighty five yards
of four touchdown for the Crimson Tide. Number twelve a
Boise State trying to assert themselves as the top a
group of five team and try to get that playoff spot,
as they do get by Nevada twenty eight two to

(01:43:12):
twenty one. Ashton Gentry, a sensational running back for the Broncos,
two hundred and nine yards with three touchdowns on in
the evening upset in the Big Twelve. Kansas takes stand
number seventeen Iowa State thirty five, thirty six, Virginia winners
at number eighteen, Pit twenty four nineteen, and number twenty
four Missouri two touchdowns in the final two minutes to

(01:43:33):
beat Oklahoma thirty to twenty three, as the Sooner struggling
in their first season in SEC play at just one
in five in their first campaign, Number twenty five Army
standing undefeated the Black Knights nine to zero after they
beat Texas Tech four Tech. Excuse me, North Texas fourteen
to three. Back to Bernie, all.

Speaker 2 (01:43:54):
Right, you've heard the discussion, chef. Let's start with you
this twelve team playoff. You know, in the words of P. T. Barnum,
Without promotion, something terrible happens.

Speaker 3 (01:44:05):
Nothing.

Speaker 2 (01:44:06):
Well, I've been promoting this and I think a lot
of people have, but not everybody's in agreement.

Speaker 3 (01:44:10):
Where do you stand on the new twelve team? Oh?
I love.

Speaker 7 (01:44:13):
This is the best thing that's happened to college football
in my lifetime. I've always known it as the biggest
joke of a postseason in which the national champion was
determined the same exact way as it was in gymnastics
or figure skating, not objectively, by essentially a committee of
judges doing what they can to gauge how each team
performed over the course of a season, but it was

(01:44:34):
never determined on the field. Then we had the BCS,
but of course that really wasn't a great system either.
The only championship game I can recall during that era
that actually made sense was Texas USC one and two.
Otherwise it was controversy just about every other year. Then
we get to the four team playoff, and as we
can remember last year Florida State. Yes, I know that

(01:44:55):
the quarterback got into but they finished undefeated but missed
the four team playoff. With twelve teams in it's hard
to argue that anyone who misses the playoff was truly
deserving of being in it. Now, I personally do like
the idea of making it like March Madness, give every
conference an automatic spot. Didn't fill it out without large
but to me, this is the next best thing. Twelve

(01:45:16):
teams give all the power conferences plus one of the
non power conference an automatic spot without large and fill
out the field. And I'm ready for this chaos, Burdy,
I'm really ready for it. It's going to be the
best college football postseason, I think in history.

Speaker 2 (01:45:32):
Okay, I agree with pretty much all of that. I
feel the same way. And I like the analogy whereby
you compare the judgment call that the committee would make
to you know, figure skating or gymnastics or whatever. Here's
where people all you know already are complaining right now.

(01:45:52):
BYU is with the number four team, which means they
would get a buy and a home game, even though
they're ranked ninth overall, so technically they're ranked lower than Tennessee,
who they'd be an underdog against Indiana, who they be
an underdog against Penn State Texas, And I believe Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (01:46:14):
Who's the other team? Who's you know?

Speaker 2 (01:46:17):
Because Oregon's leading the Big ten. I got a problem
because this is championship based. So if you're pissed off
the BYU's there because the Big twelve is there, then
transferred to the Big twelve?

Speaker 3 (01:46:27):
Do you did the.

Speaker 2 (01:46:28):
BYU ranking catch your eye all in any negative sense?

Speaker 7 (01:46:33):
Not really, although I do personally feel that it should
be based on who the top actual teams are and
they should be seated according much like it is in
March Madness, where the top teams are the number one
seeds and they just go down regardless of who is.

Speaker 2 (01:46:47):
You don't have home games or buys in March Madness. See,
so that's what's changed this.

Speaker 3 (01:46:53):
You wouldn't.

Speaker 2 (01:46:54):
I've always wanted the tournament quote unquote to be championship based,
meaning win your damn conference and we'll go from there.

Speaker 3 (01:47:03):
And they're doing that here. But here's what's interesting.

Speaker 2 (01:47:06):
If you look at the committee's top twenty five rankings
right now, BYU's ninth, but they'd be fourth in the
tournament because they'll win the big twelve.

Speaker 7 (01:47:14):
You follow me, He's yeah, And that's why I think
it should be. It should really be based purely off
of who that now, I think the conference championship should
be an automatic birth but in regards yes, but in
regards to seeding, who gets the home game, who gets
the buy?

Speaker 6 (01:47:28):
Ah?

Speaker 2 (01:47:29):
I see what you're saying. Yes, Ah, Okay, you make
a good distinction there. So you're fine with the all
the conference champions getting automatic pats regardless of the record.
But that doesn't mean you have to give him a
buy and a home game exactly, all right. You know what,
I wouldn't be surprised, Kevin if they don't. It's the committee.
They'll go back to the drawing.

Speaker 3 (01:47:49):
Board, and I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:47:51):
If I don't know what the buy laws are, I
would be surprised if they go back and give this
a quarter turn. Maybe make that alteration. All right, excellent,
share your thoughts.

Speaker 10 (01:48:00):
I mean, yeah, but Kevin kind of I mean, he
didn't take it out of my mouth, but when I
was listening to him, I wish I was able to
think of something like that, because seriously, like that's when
it comes down to it. That seems like the way
to do it. And and like in terms of pros
and cons, I kind of just see only pros in
terms of the new college playoff, Like in terms of
more teams being involved, Obviously there's gonna be complaints no

(01:48:21):
matter what, because some teams won't make it in some
will and that's gonna happen no matter what, and that
was happening last year with Florida. But it's just I
like it because on top of that, the longer path
will kind of make it where it's a real true champion. Well,
we'll see a lot of teams just have or get hot.
Well not really, but they'll get hot, they'll have good

(01:48:44):
three games, and then they'll win the championship. But then
with a longer path. I just kind of like it
just because they have to do more. You'll see them
more and in terms of just high quality football, they'll
be doing it back to back to back. So I
think that's just gonna be fun for viewers as well
as athletes. The buys obviously do bring up an issue.
There's going to be just I feel like it's just
gonna another thing that people can argue about and just

(01:49:05):
get annoyed about. But in the end, I really liked
Kevin's idea.

Speaker 2 (01:49:10):
You will have at least earned your buye. I mean,
that's the way that's gonna work right now as of today,
even after Saturday's results, you know, check that prior to
Saturday's results Oregon BYU Georgia and Miami, you know it
would have earned buys. So that's why I think the
regular season. This playoff format makes the regular season even

(01:49:34):
more meaningful as well, because you're playing for position, you're
playing for home field advantage. You're playing for a buye
and after go to Mark, I'll go to some of
these matchups where they'd be and you can't tell me
this is just going to do Baffo TV ratings.

Speaker 3 (01:49:50):
Mark, you got the last word.

Speaker 11 (01:49:52):
Well, just based on what I'm hearing, it just sounds
like I guess if you have two losses, it doesn't
it doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (01:49:59):
You could still get in and.

Speaker 2 (01:50:00):
Well, it depends. If you have two losses, you'd better
have won your conference. But if you've won your conference,
then the two loss aspect will matter because there's twelve
spots and all powerful conference champions are getting a bid.

Speaker 11 (01:50:16):
I guess I just like the idea, like what you
guys have been talking about. If you win your conference,
win your conference, and only two losses, whoever gets in
gets in and they can all fight it out and
there's a bunch of games and everybody should be happy.

Speaker 2 (01:50:31):
Yeah, if you look at these matchups, all right, So
Oregon right now is the number one seed overall. If
the season would have ended today, which it didn't, through Saturday,
Oregon would be waiting for the quarterfinal matchup against the
winner of Indiana, who would visit Tennessee, Indiana's currently ninth,
Tennessee's eighth. The winner would travel to Oregon. Prior to Saturday,

(01:50:57):
the number two seed was Georgia. Data would have been
waiting at home to play the winner of Notre Dame,
who would have traveled to Penn State.

Speaker 3 (01:51:04):
Notre Dame's current tenth ranked team Penn.

Speaker 2 (01:51:07):
State seventh Miami before they lost and they still may
be Okay, we'll see what happens Tuesday. Miami would be
in their quarterfinal matchup at home, waiting for the winner
of Alabama Texas. The game would be played at Texas
because Alabama was an eleventh seed and Texas is a
sixth seed. And here's where my theory of play the

(01:51:29):
damn thing on the field. Boise State would visit Ohio State.
Do I think Boise State would beat Ohio State in Columbus.

Speaker 3 (01:51:38):
No, But the winner of that game, let's.

Speaker 2 (01:51:40):
Presume it's Ohio State, they'd have to travel to BYU
to play BYU in the quarterfinals. He'd say, well, they're
going to kill BYU. Well, theoretically they should. Theoretically they might,
but we have seen massive upsets in the past. We have,
and I'm I'm not going to go through a history
lesson right now and list them all, but BYU and

(01:52:03):
their school history has frankly been a giant killer. Now,
do I really think they'd beat Ohio State. No, But
rather than theoretically surmised, like Kevin said, just treat it
as if it's an ice skating tournament or you know, gymnastics,
where they scores and the results become subjective, this is objective.

Speaker 3 (01:52:25):
You've got to beat them on the field.

Speaker 2 (01:52:27):
So then the four quarterfinal games, they're not played at
campus sites. Those four games, which will be scheduled New
Year's Eve and New Year's Day, will be played at
the Fiesta Bowl, the Rose Bowl, the Peach Bowl, and
the Sugar Bowl. The four highest ranked conference champions will
be signed one of those bulls because they want to

(01:52:48):
pay homage and honor the historic bull relationships as well
as seeding so they'll feel more normal. Then all of
a sudden, you got the four quarter final winners. They're
going to meet at the semi final either the Orange
Bowl or the Cotton Bowl. That's January ninth and January tenth.
If those seeds hold, one would beat four, two would
play three. The two semi final winners then play on

(01:53:10):
Janual on January twentieth. Tell me that's not gonna be
a big day. That's a Monday, that's Martin Luther King Day.
That's the presidential augeration Day, January twentieth, that will culminate
a month long tournament. I think this is going to
be incredible, and I don't know that people are gonna argue.

(01:53:33):
And I hate it when people go on the radio
and say, well, you know, you got twelve teams. People
gonna argue you could put twenty four teams. Someone's still
gonna argue you. That's not true because the arguments are specious.
This is decided on the field. That's the beauty of this.
When your conference and you're in after that, win as
many games as you can, have the highest seed, you
can have quality wins, and you're in.

Speaker 3 (01:53:56):
This is not gonna be subjective.

Speaker 2 (01:53:58):
Last year, Florida would have been in even if their
quarterback went down because he won the ACC And the
bottom line is, while it's presumed Florida State might not
a farreedwell, we're never gonna know. And that's the thing
coming up. The Bernie Fraddle Show continues on Bernie Frattle.

coming to live from the tirect dot com studios here

the dance sensation sweep in the nation.

Speaker 3 (01:54:37):
What kind of brand new fool you followed by? What
my name?

Speaker 2 (01:54:42):
By the way, just but it couldn't get any worse
for the Cowboys. Dak Prescott the sixty million dollar man.
Divide that by three wins twenty million dollars a win
for Jerry Jones, he's planning to undergo season enduring season
ending surgery partially torn hamstring, according to reports this past week.

Speaker 3 (01:55:04):
I guess he's going to meet.

Speaker 2 (01:55:05):
With another specialist to get a final opinion before going,
you know, getting the operation. And if he gets the operation,
he'll be sidelined for four months.

Speaker 3 (01:55:15):
If he ops.

Speaker 2 (01:55:16):
Against surgery, he'll be out six to eight weeks, just
in time for the Cowboys to not make the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (01:55:22):
It's been a.

Speaker 2 (01:55:23):
Pretty more abund year nineteen hundred yards passing, eleven touchdowns,
eight interceptions.

Speaker 3 (01:55:27):
They're three and five.

Speaker 2 (01:55:29):
Looks like Cooper Rush will start. Trey Lance, a guy
who was once acquired when the team traded for three
first round draft picks to get him. Yeah, how'd that
work out? The Cowboys storyline is one to watch. I mean,
they're returning home. But in twenty twenty four, I mean,
going into this season, they'd won like sixteen straight home games.

(01:55:52):
Now the Cowboys are on and three. After those sixteen
straight regular season wins at AT and T Stadium, they've been
outscored by sixty six points. The Cowboys have in those defeats.
They won't have Dak Prescott Sunday, Big Dan deal, you
weren't winning with him anyway. Interestingly enough, Cooper Rush is
five to one as a starter in the NFL in

(01:56:15):
his career. The loss came in twenty twenty two against
the Eagles, who the Cowboys are conveniently playing Sunday. Got
picked off three times that day, and you know, I think, well,
twenty twenty two is the last year Cooper Rush even
started in a game. Interestingly enough, also, this makes no sense,
but it doesn't matter. There's no context.

Speaker 3 (01:56:36):
To this.

Speaker 2 (01:56:38):
Running back Saquon Barkley is zero to ten in his
career against the Cowboys. Of course, all those losses came
when he was a member of the New York Football Giants.
He's got a much more talented group in Philadelphia. They
flourished through eight games. Barkley has been everything as advertised,
averaging almost six yards of carry, ranked second in rushing
yards per game, only behind Derrick Henry. And remember he's

(01:57:01):
coming off that electric game and that hurdling reverse hurdle
against Jacksonville. Should be an interesting game. The AJ Brown
is dealing with an injury, but he's back. They're in
a great spot. I hate to say it, this just
feels like a thirty one to fourteen Eagles win. I
don't even know if the Cowboys can score fourteen. We'll

(01:57:22):
see who the brand new fools are speaking of that
We are just six minutes away.

Speaker 3 (01:57:27):
What kind of brand new fool? You followed by? What
my name? Keep it locked?

Speaker 2 (01:57:31):
You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Well that's right, you heard the man Bernie. Bernie Fraddles

(01:57:52):

Tyraq the way tire buying should be many interesting sort
of I will use the word trend. These are more
tidbits of information that you might impress your friends with

(01:58:13):
at the bar as you head into this NFL weekend
which is upon us. Obviously, we've got one game of
the books Thursday night Cincinnati and Baltimore, and in about
five and a half hours the New York Giants at
Alion Stadium in Munich.

Speaker 3 (01:58:32):
We'll kick it off against.

Speaker 2 (01:58:34):
The Carolina Panthers. And currently I think the Giants you're
up to like six and a half point favorites. But
be that as it may. How about those Chiefs. The
Chiefs face the Broncos. They're sixteen and one straight up,
ten and seven against the spread in their last eighteen

(01:58:54):
games against the Broncos. I talked about this game earlier
with Steve Fezick. This may be one of those situations
where the eight points that the Broncos are getting offer
pretty darn good value. They got embarrassed. The Broncos got
embarrassed last week by the Baltimore Ravens, and I always

(01:59:15):
managed to like teams who were embarrassed the week before
that that sort of rally the following week and right
the ship. By the way, Not for nothing, the Broncos
are three and one against the spread at road as
road underdogs this year. And let's also not forget the
Chiefs not only play Buffalo next week. They're human, not
saying they're looking ahead, but they're human. But they are

(01:59:37):
also coming off an overtime game last week, and teams
who play an overtime game the week before only cover
the number forty three percent the following week. Eight points
is a lot. The Bears three and zero straight up
and against the spread at home behind Caleb Williams actually
winning by an average of twenty eight to fifteen, Bears

(01:59:59):
aren't g in any of my money. The Chargers, given
that stud defense averaging twelve point six yards check that
twelve point six points per game. That they are allowing
one and seven to the end of this year under
new coach Jim Harbaugh not surprising because they run the
ball that you clock and they play great defense.

Speaker 3 (02:00:22):
The Colts six.

Speaker 2 (02:00:23):
And one out right five to one against the spread
in their last five home games versus the Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 3 (02:00:31):
If you could tell me what.

Speaker 2 (02:00:32):
Kind of quarterback play you're going to get out of
the Colts on on Sunday catching four at home against
Buffalo four to three and a half de penning, then
they might be the side. But for now I got
to sit that one out. The Cowboys allowing almost forty
two points per game their last four home games.

Speaker 3 (02:00:52):
How does this happen?

Speaker 2 (02:00:53):
Mike Zimmer needs to be you know, needs to answer
some questions. They're also nine to one against the spread
in their last Division ten division home games. The Cowboys.
Now again, you don't have Dak Prescott. You do have
Cooper Rush who is starting. He's five and one as
a starter in the NFL, but he hasn't started the

(02:01:15):
game in two years, one month and twenty five days.
But you are getting seven to seven and a half
points at home. The Cowboys are They're really probably the
only side to look at. You gotta hold your nose.
You know who the books are going to need in
the ball is in the air. The Giants, I think
are happy as hell to get out of METLFE field.

Speaker 3 (02:01:34):
They haven't won a single game there. Zero to five.

Speaker 2 (02:01:36):
Again, they kick it off and Munich here in about
half an hour, or check that five and a half hours,
and they're five and oh straight up and against the spread.
The New York Giants are their last five games on
a neutral field, and they're actually four to zero against
the spread versus the Jaguars in their last four games. Now,
the New York Jets, this is an interesting game. They

(02:01:57):
visit Arizona later today. They're very plucky Arizona Cardinals. You
have to love the effort that the Arizona Cardinals give.
They actually now lead the NFL and the NFC West,
and you know, look, they've got a three game winning streak.
The question is can Kyler Murray stand you know prosperity.

(02:02:20):
The Jets opened up as a one point underdog. Money
has come in on New York plus one and a half.
Now the Cardinals are getting at home. Do you trust
the Jets, especially since they are now four and thirteen
against the spread in their last seventeen away games. For
some reason, we're still paying that Jets tax and they
won seven games last year with you know, pretty spotty

(02:02:44):
quarterback play, but you got the Hall of Famer there.

Speaker 3 (02:02:46):
But they're just a dysfunctional mess. Can you truly trust
the New York Jets? I can't.

Speaker 2 (02:02:53):
The Steelers seven to zero outright, five and two against
the spread in their last seven games following a bye week,
six and one outright against the Commanders. This is a
very interesting game on Sunday, the Commanders laying two and
a half against the visiting Steelers Washington seven to one
on one against the spread this year, which is second

(02:03:14):
best in the National Football League. Both teams, the Commandos
and the Steelers, feature a three game winning streak. Couple things.
The Steelers are only averaging twenty one points a game
under justin fields. They're now averaging thirty one points a game.
They're two starts with Russell Wilson. This is notable to me,

(02:03:35):
though Mike Tomlin in his career as an underdog, manages
to win those games outright fifty nine percent of the time.

Speaker 3 (02:03:45):
By the way, the.

Speaker 2 (02:03:46):
Vikings six and zero four one and one against the
spread versus the Jaguars, I think the Vikings are real.
You know, Sam Donald has come back to Earth a
little bit. But you would expect that one thing I
was remiss to mention Antonio Pearson his staff. The Raiders
lose to the Bengals last week, forty one to twenty four.

Speaker 3 (02:04:08):
They actually Desmond.

Speaker 2 (02:04:09):
Ritter saw a time at quarterback for the Raiders, and
after the game, the Raiders fired their offensive coordinator Lukeetzi.
They fired an offensive line coach, James Craig, and their
quarterback coach Rich Scangarello. It's a bye week overhaul for
the two and seven Raiders. They ranked twenty eighth in offense.
They're averaging just eighteen points a game. That's twenty sixth

(02:04:31):
and only four point six yards per play.

Speaker 3 (02:04:34):
That is twenty ninth. Better times ahead, hopefully.

Speaker 2 (02:04:38):
If you are a Raider fan, it's quite an event
here when the Raiders play at Allegiance Stadium, But it's honestly,
it's become a home field disadvantage. You really can't slice
it any other way. I think a lot of season
ticket holders may have jumped ship. Can I prove it?

Speaker 9 (02:04:54):
No?

Speaker 3 (02:04:54):
Do I have the data to prove it. No?

Speaker 2 (02:04:56):
It just feels that way, and visiting fans all to
happy to enjoy their time and at Allegiance Stadium, which
is really quite a beautiful building. By the way, Shortly

You heard Kevin's update. The college football playoff is going
to be turned a little bit upside down, not too
dramatically because BYU managed to hold on and Oregon managed

(02:05:42):
to hold on, but Georgia goes down right and Miami
goes down. Although Miami is still by virtue of their record,
still might right now hold that top seed because again,
this is a championship based tournament like in the past
where you had the the four team made for TV

(02:06:04):
invitational tournament. You know, I said Friday night on my show,
people didn't like it when they saw that BYU was
the fourth seed and they were not only going to
get a home playoff game, they would get a bye. Well,
if you win your conference, that's the way this is
going to work, so you can't complain about BYU. And

(02:06:25):
they came back and got it done Saturday night in Utah.

Speaker 3 (02:06:29):
And the key is is it.

Speaker 2 (02:06:31):
All arguments with this playoff format are going to be
decided on the field, as opposed to the previous format.

Speaker 3 (02:06:39):
It's championship based. Okay, I get it. The SEC is
better than the Big Twelve.

Speaker 2 (02:06:45):
So if you're Texas or Alabama or LSU or Mississippi
or one of those teams who certainly would be favored
over BYU and a neutral in your butter because you
believe you're better than BYU, fine, succeed from the SEC
and go to a lesser conference. But you're not gonna
do that, are you.

Speaker 3 (02:07:01):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (02:07:02):
By the way you watch, the SEC will get four
teams in this tournament. When all is said and done,
the Big Twelve will get one. You don't like it,
do something about it. Look, Alan Iverson once said, I
don't like to lift weights because they're heavy, not easy.

Speaker 3 (02:07:20):
By the way, let's have a refresher coming up.

Speaker 2 (02:07:23):
Let's have a refresher on the college football playoff format
because we're so focused on whether or not you know
this is going to diminish the regular season.

Speaker 3 (02:07:33):
Who deserves to be there or not? You don't even
know how it's gonna work.

Speaker 2 (02:07:38):
I can tell you exactly how it's gonna work, and
I'll tell you the beauty of it is. It's one
hell of a musical chairs money grab. When do you
see how much money is up for grab just by
making this tournament? Yes, football fans, be sure to tune
into Fox Sports Radio every Sunday morning beginning ten am
Eastern sevent am Pacific for Countdown to kick Off presented

(02:08:00):
by BEDMGM, Brian No, Jeff Schwartz, my buddy Professional Better
Bill Krackenberger will have you covered three hours before kickoff.
Every Sunday morning, listen to Countdown to Kickoff, presented by
BETMGM right here on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Coming up, we talk about the college football playoff format.

Speaker 3 (02:08:19):
I'm Bernie Frattle.

Speaker 2 (02:08:20):
We're coming to line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio Tirech dot Com studios. Keep it locked you listen
to the Bernie Fradle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All
right back at the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio,
coming to live from the tarreg dot Com studios here
in Las Vegas. Yeah, we're forty one minutes away from
the dance Sensation sweep in the nation.

Speaker 3 (02:08:40):
What kind of brand new fool you followed by what
my name? All Right?

Speaker 2 (02:08:46):
I want to talk about the new college Football Playoff
format because you know that it's here. You have already
had the first rankings and those have been somewhat broken
up because of a couple of upsets Saturday.

Speaker 3 (02:08:59):
But let's break it down.

Speaker 2 (02:09:01):
Because the twelve participating teams will be the four conference
champions ranked highest by the College Football Playoffs Selection Committee,
plus the next eight highest ranked teams. Is in the past,
the ranking of the teams, well, that part's going to
be done by a selection committee. But if you win

(02:09:21):
your conference champions champion and you are a power for school,
you don't include the Pac two anymore.

Speaker 3 (02:09:30):
You're in.

Speaker 2 (02:09:31):
No matter what your record is, you could be a
three loss SEC team. Let me tell you, if you
win your conference, it's championship based. You're getting in. You're
gonna have a buy and you're evenna have a home game.
So the four highest conference ranked champions are seeded one
through four. They'll receive a first round buys or just said,
the fifth conference champion is going.

Speaker 3 (02:09:53):
To be seeded where it was ranked.

Speaker 2 (02:09:55):
Right now, that looks like it's boys going to be
Boise State, or they'll be ranked at number twelve if
they're outside the top twelve rankings. No non conference champions
ranked in the top four would beginning, you know, seated
four and one. Bubbah, you get the picture. But because
of this, here's the deal, the seedings one through twelve
could actually look a little different than the final rankings. Now,

(02:10:19):
the eight team seeded five through twelve will play in
a first round, with the higher seeds hosting the lower seeds,
either on campus or other sites designated by the higher
seeded institution. So look, you know, you get twelve five.
We talked about that. Right now, it's Boise State and
Ohio State. And I guess it's kind of toughs silly

(02:10:40):
to project potential matchups because with Georgia going down to
Miami going down, they could change. You know, BYU managed
to hang in there, but if By you would have lost.
If butts candy and nuts, they'd have been tied with Colorado. Colorado, though,
as we talked about earlier, you got to give them
a lot of credit, man, for what coach Prime is done.

(02:11:00):
If they went out, they're going to get in the playoff.
So that's something I'm watching in This is championship base.
It's going to be decided on the field, not by
some committee the smoke phil room. Now, the selection committee
will assign the four highest ranked conference champions to play
in the quarterfinals, hosted by Bulls. That's where you start

(02:11:22):
to hear the names of the Bulls. This will be
done in consideration basically, you know, the historic bowl relationships,
and then in consideration of ranking. So you'll start to
see some of the traditional bowl games being you know,
the front for.

Speaker 3 (02:11:36):
The College Football Playoff.

Speaker 2 (02:11:40):
Now, the bracket is going to remain in effect throughout
the playoff. There's not going to be any receding, and
the highest seed is going to receive preferential treatment placement
for this semi final bowl as well.

Speaker 3 (02:11:56):
And and of course.

Speaker 2 (02:11:57):
Uh the you know, all eleven games will be played
under the College Football Playoff umbrella, and you know all
the policies will follow. But here's it's going to start
December twentieth, I believe it's gonna here. Here's what's really cool.
This is basically going to be a month long ordeal
and tell me you're not here for it. You got

(02:12:18):
round one and everybody's going to have their hand in
the pie, all right. Round one one of the Round
one games will be hosted by T and T Sports
and various other networks as well.

Speaker 3 (02:12:33):
Right, here's here's the beauty.

Speaker 2 (02:12:35):
By the way, it's December twentieth. They're going to be
competing against the Texans Chief Steelers Ravens, and also another
Round one game at eight o'clock on ABC ESPN.

Speaker 3 (02:12:48):
But the dates as they go on.

Speaker 2 (02:12:53):
They will start on Friday, December twentieth, and they're going
to continue on all the way through January. January January
twentieth will be when the championship game is. So this
is going to be quite I think quite the ordeal.
And there's no question that you know. I think it's

(02:13:16):
going to do baffle ratings. And let's talk about the money.
Let's talk about the money real quickly. You've got a
situation where this is ultimately turning into what I would call,
in common parlance as a as a musical chair money
grap a musical chair money grap. There is one hundred

(02:13:40):
and sixteen million dollars up for grabs to distribute to
all the conferences one hundred and sixteen million dollars. Now
that's based on the teams to qualify for the College
Football Playoff and they advance to subsequent rounds and I
get to the college football team, you know, playoffs top
two leaders and this you know, the selection committee. They
don't factor in which conferences teams play in. They're trying

(02:14:05):
to create parody and disparity based on how good these
conferences are and based on the current ranking.

Speaker 3 (02:14:13):
For what do I mean by that?

Speaker 2 (02:14:16):
So the first pass, which was last Tuesday, ESPN did it.

Speaker 3 (02:14:22):
The Big Ten had four teams.

Speaker 2 (02:14:23):
Oregon obviously very deserving, They're undefeated, Ohio State very deserving.
Their only loss is at Oregon. Penn State. They're deserving
on paper, they bug me, but they're deserving. Their only loss,
of course, is to Ohio State in a game they

(02:14:44):
could have easily won. Maybe not easily, but they could
have certainly certainly could.

Speaker 3 (02:14:48):
Have won it.

Speaker 2 (02:14:49):
And then Indiana Google them, Kurt Signetti wins, google them.
They're ten to zero. Now they're gonna end up playing
Ohio State. I still think Indiana's got a real path
to the playoff. More so than Penn State does so
look big ten well deserving four teams, the SEC well
deserving Georgia. Now Georgia got their second loss, but they

(02:15:12):
still have a path to the playoffs. Texas very well deserving,
Tennessee very well deserving, and Alabama all three to one
today LSU the LSU Alabama game, I think you can
scratch LSU off your dance card. I'm not sure their
path to the playoff. And that's the other beauty of

(02:15:33):
this new twelve team playoff. We had a legitimate college
football playoff elimination game Saturday night in Baton Rouge, where
number eleven Bama at six and two, played number fifteen
LSU because both schools had two losses each. Yes, it's
wild that they're still in the playoff conversation, but this

(02:15:55):
is the new reality. This is the new reality. A
third defeat probably ends their hopes. But think about this.
If this game had been played last year under the
goofy four team TV Invitational Made for TV Invitational Department
of Redundancy Department, this game had been played for pride
and certainly under the BCS era, and of course, obviously

(02:16:17):
when there was no playoff back in the day when
the writers would get together and flip a coin and
put their heads together, make a rock pile and come
up with a national champion. I'll never forget nineteen seventy eight.
The USC strolled down to Alabama, a very good Alabama team.
Bear Bryant with Jeff routledgit quarterback, and USC was just loaded,
maybe one of the greatest college football teams ever assembled.

(02:16:39):
Forty two players on that roster ended up in the
NFL at one time or another.

Speaker 3 (02:16:43):
Two Heisman Trophy winners.

Speaker 2 (02:16:44):
In the backfield, you had Marcus Allen as a blocking
back for Charles White. They went down to Alabama and
they led handily twenty four to seven in the fourth quarter,
and they ended up winning twenty four to fourteen. Ers
had the audacity to vote Alabama. I think in the
eight people as number one USC and the UPI how

(02:17:06):
would you vote Alabama over USC when USC beat them
by ten points in there at their home field? All right,
That's why this twelve team format is so great. You
got the SEC with four teams, the Big Ten with
four teams, the ECC has one team. It's all they deserve.
Miami the Big twelve one team, right, now BUYU. That's

(02:17:27):
all they deserve. The Mountain West will have Boise State
at yet large, and of course Notre Dame will be
the you know, the independent team in the group. Again,
there is one hundred and sixteen million dollars up for
grabs to distribute to conferences based on all these teams
who qualify. And I'll tell you this has created what

(02:17:47):
I think, phenomenal interest in November games that might not
have it. And I also think it's created, you know,
phenomenal I think matchups whereas in the past where you
might look to two teams that aren't necessarily going to

(02:18:08):
find their way into any kind of playoff because they
really didn't exist. Again, I keep calling it the four
team made for TV Invitational. And this is what I
thought at the beginning of the season, because some people
thought the twelve team playoff would shift the tenor of
the regular season. Now, two losses for a national power
doesn't mean as much. You saw what happen in the
LSU Alabama game. Alabama is live. I think they're getting

(02:18:31):
in the playoffs. The regular season has not lost its intensity.
That's a fact. There's more to play for and by
the way, you're not just playing for a bid, you're
also playing to host the first round game on campus,
another aspect of this LA and maybe even earning a
first round by plus, we're going to get a guaranteed
group of five conference in their team. Right now, it

(02:18:53):
looks like Boise State that's going to get a guaranteed bid.
Tell me this doesn't move the needle. I think it does.
Coming up, we're gonna bring in the crew, get their thoughts.
Not everybody likes it. Some people see loopholes. I don't
you saw how people lost their mind about BYU being
the fourth ranked team and they might get on the

(02:19:15):
field with the team. A team like Mississippi might not
even make the playoff and they'd be an underdog. But again,
this is championship based. Win your conference. You don't like it,
move to another conference. You're not gonna do that, are
you and me? As they said the SEC, they'll get
four teams in this tournament, but the Big twelve they'll
probably get one.

Speaker 3 (02:19:33):
They're gonna have to win their conference. So coming up,
we'll chop that up with the crew.

Speaker 2 (02:19:37):
In the meantime, let's go to our guy, Kevin Wired
with another Boffer performance as the chef A little mellow
chef tonight.

Speaker 3 (02:19:44):
Uh all ballant.

Speaker 7 (02:19:46):
Really keeping it uh keeping it smooth tonight. That's how
I like it sometimes. So anyway, it was really not
a smooth day in college football. In fact, it was
a day full of chaos. Says we're gonna change in
the playoff rankings very possibly so because Number three Georgia
going on the road, losing to Ole Miss twenty eight

(02:20:08):
to ten, Carson Beck struggling to take care of the
football on Saturday and interception of fumble five sacks he took.
As the Bulldogs now two losses in SEC play, they
get leapfrogged by teams like Tennessee, Texas, A and M
and Texas in the overall standing. So we'll see exactly
where that leaves Georgia in the pecking order. Number four Miami,

(02:20:32):
their undefeated season is no more as Georgia Tech win
to twenty eight twenty three. So the Hurricanes now nine
and one. Camp Ward did play very well three hundred
and forty eight yards and three touchdowns, but the Hurricanes
now join the ranks of the teams that have losses.
Number five Texas though and easy win forty nine to

(02:20:53):
seventeen five touchdown passes by Quinn yours the top two
teams in the country Oregon in Hawaii State, both of
them with easy wins, as the Ducks winning against Maryland
thirty nineteen, buck Guy shutting out Purdue of forty five
it's to nothing Number six Pence State thirty five six
winners against Washington as much in before Tennessee wins against

(02:21:17):
Mississippi State thirty three fourteen Number eight Indiana the Hoosiers
for the first time in school history ten and oh
they get by Michigan at twenty to fifteen. Elsewhere in
college football, number eleven, Alabama going to Death Valley and
winning at number fifteen LSU forty two to thirteen. Jalen

(02:21:38):
Milroe twelve carries one hundred and eighty five yards of
four touchdowns for the Crimson Tide. Number twelve a Boise
State trying to assert themselves as the top group of
five team and trying to get that playoff spot, as
they do get by Nevada twenty eight two to twenty one.
Ashton Gentry, a centational running back for the Broncos, in

(02:22:00):
nine yards with three touchdowns on in the evening upset
in the Big twelve. Kansas takes stand number seventeen, Iowa
State thirty five, thirty six, Virginia winners at number eighteen,
Pit twenty four nineteen, and number twenty four Missouri two
touchdowns in the final two minutes to beat Oklahoma thirty
to twenty three, as the Sooner struggling in their first
season in SEC play at just one in five in

(02:22:24):
their first campaign. Number twenty five Army staying undefeated the
Black Knights nine to zero after they beat Texas Tech
four Tech. Excuse me, North Texas fourteen to three.

Speaker 2 (02:22:35):
Back to you, Bernie, all right, you've heard the discussion, chef.
Let's start with you this twelve team playoff. You know,
in the words of P. T. Barnum, Without promotion, something
terrible happens.

Speaker 3 (02:22:48):
Nothing.

Speaker 2 (02:22:49):
Well, I've been promoting this and I think a lot
of people have, but not everybody's in agreement.

Speaker 3 (02:22:53):
Where do you stand in the new twelve team?

Speaker 1 (02:22:55):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (02:22:55):
I love for Max.

Speaker 7 (02:22:55):
This is the best thing that's happened to college football
in my lifetime. I've always known it as the biggest
joke of a postseason in which the national champion was
determined the same exact way as it was in gymnastics
or figure skating, not objectively by essentially a committee of
judges doing what they can to gauge how each team
performed over the course of a season, but it was

(02:23:17):
never determined on the field. Then we had the BCS,
but of course that really wasn't a great system either.
The only championship game I can recall during that era
that actually made sense was Texas USC one and two.
Otherwise it was controversy just about every other year. Then
we get to the four team playoff and as we
can remember last year Florida State. Yes, I know that

(02:23:38):
their quarterback got injured, but they finished undefeated but missed
the four team playoff. Now, with twelve teams in, it's
hard to argue that anyone who misses the playoff was
truly deserving of being in it. Now, I personally do
like the idea of making it like March Madness. Give
every conference an automatic spot. Didn't fill it out with
that large, but to me, this is the next best thing.

(02:23:58):
Twelve teams. Give all the power conferences plus one of
the non power conference an automatic spot without large and
fill out the field, and I'm ready for this chaos.
Burdy I'm really ready for it. It's going to be
the best college football postseason I think in history.

Speaker 2 (02:24:15):
Okay, I agree with pretty much all of that. I
feel the same way, and I like the analogy whereby
you compare the judgment call that the committee would make
to you know, figure skating or gymnastics or whatever. Here's
where people all you know already are complaining right now.

(02:24:35):
BYU is with the number four team, which means they
would get a buy and a home game even though
they're ranked ninth overall, so technically they're ranked lower than Tennessee,
who they'd be an underdog against Indiana, who they be
an underdog against Penn State Texas and I believe Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (02:24:57):
Who's the other team? Who's you know?

Speaker 2 (02:25:00):
Because Oregon's leading to Big ten. I got a problem
because this is championship based. So if you're pissed off
the BYU's there because the Big twelve is there, then
transfer to the Big twelve. Did the BYU ranking catch
your eye all in any negative sense?

Speaker 7 (02:25:16):
Not really, although I do personally feel that it should
be based on who the top actual teams are and
they should be seeded according much like it is in
March madness where the top teams are the number one
seeds and they just go down regardless of who is.

Speaker 2 (02:25:30):
You don't have home games or buys in March madness. See,
So that's what's changed this. I've always wanted the tournament
quote unquote to be championship based, meaning win your damn
conference and we'll go from there.

Speaker 3 (02:25:45):
And they're doing that here. But here's what's interesting.

Speaker 2 (02:25:48):
If you look at the committee's top twenty five rankings
right now, BYU's ninth, but they'd be fourth in the
tournament because they'll win the big twelve.

Speaker 7 (02:25:57):
You follow me, Yeah, And that's why I think it
should be. It should really be based purely off of
who the Now. I think a conference championship should be
an automatic birth.

Speaker 3 (02:26:07):
But in regards to.

Speaker 7 (02:26:08):
But in regards to seeding, who gets the home game,
who gets the buy?

Speaker 3 (02:26:11):
Ah?

Speaker 2 (02:26:12):
I see what you're saying. Yes, ah, okay, you make
a good distinction there. So you're fine with the all
the conference champions getting it automatic beats regardless of the record.
But that doesn't mean you have to give him a
buy and a home game exactly, all right, you know what,
I wouldn't be surprised Kevin if they don't, it's a committee.

Speaker 3 (02:26:31):
They don't go back to the drawing board. And uh,
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:26:34):
If think I don't know what the buy laws are,
I would be surprised if they go back and give
this a quarter turn. I maybe make that alteration. All right, good, excellent,
share your thoughts.

Speaker 10 (02:26:43):
I mean, yeah, but Kevin kind of I mean, he
didn't take it out of my mouth, but when I
was listening to him, I wish I was able to
think of something like that, because seriously, like that's when
it comes down to it. That seems like the way
to do it.

Speaker 3 (02:26:52):
And and like.

Speaker 10 (02:26:53):
In terms of pros and cons, I I kind of
just see only pros in terms of the new college playoff,
like in terms of more teams being involved. Obviously there's
gonna be complaints no matter what, because some teams won't
make it in some will and that's gonna happen no
matter what, and that was happening last year with Florida.
But it's it's just I like it because on top

(02:27:14):
of that, the longer path will kind of make it
where it's a real true champion. Well, we'll see a
lot of teams just have or get hot. Well, not really,
but they'll get hot, they'll have good three games, and
then they'll win the championship, but then with a longer path.
I just kind of like it just because they have
to do more. You'll see them more, and in terms
of just high quality football, they'll be doing it back

(02:27:37):
to back to back. So I think that's just gonna
be fun for viewers as well as athletes. The buys
obviously do bring up an issue. There's gonna be just
I feel like it's just gonna another thing that people
can argue about and just get annoyed about. But in
the end, I really liked Kevin's idea.

Speaker 2 (02:27:52):
You will have at least earned your buye. I mean,
that's the way that's gonna work right now as of today,
even after Saturday's results, you know, check that prior to
Saturday's results, Oregon BYU Georgia and Miami will you know
it would have earned bys. So that's why I think
the regular season. This playoff format makes the regular season

(02:28:16):
even more meaningful as well, because you're playing for position,
you're playing for home field advantage, you're playing for a buye,
and after.

Speaker 3 (02:28:26):
Go to Mark, I'll go to some of these matchups.

Speaker 2 (02:28:28):
Where they'd be and you can't tell me this is
just going to do Baffo TV ratings Mark, you got
the last word.

Speaker 11 (02:28:35):
Well, just based on what I'm hearing, it just sounds
like I guess if you have two losses, it doesn't
even it doesn't matter, you could still get in.

Speaker 3 (02:28:43):
And well, it depends if when.

Speaker 2 (02:28:45):
If you have two losses, you'd better have won your conference.
But if you've won your conference, then the two loss
aspect won't matter because there's twelve spots and all powerful
conference champions are getting a bid.

Speaker 11 (02:28:59):
I guess I just like the idea, like what you
guys have been talking about. If you win your conference,
when your conference and only two losses, whoever gets in
and gets in and they can all fight it out
and there's a bunch of games and everybody should be happy.

Speaker 2 (02:29:14):
Yeah, if you look at these matchups, all right, So
Oregon right now is the number one seed overall. If
the season would have ended today, which it didn't. Through Saturday,
Oregon would be waiting for the quarterfinal matchup against the
winner of Indiana, who would visit Tennessee. Indiana's currently ninth
Tennessee's eighth. The winner would travel to Oregon prior to Saturday,

(02:29:39):
the number two seed was Georgia. They would have been
waiting at home to play the winner of Notre Dame,
who would have traveled to Penn State. Notre Dame's currently
tenth ranked team, Penn State seventh Miami before they lost,
and they still may be Okay, we'll see what happens Tuesday.
Miami would be in their quarterfinal matchup at home, waiting

(02:30:00):
for the winner of Alabama Texas. The game would be
played at Texas because Alabama was an eleven seed and
Texas is a sixth seed. And here's where my theory
of play the damn thing on the field. Boise State
would visit Ohio State. Do I think Boise State would
beat Ohiose State in Columbus. No, but the winner of

(02:30:22):
that game, let's presume it's Ohio State, they'd have to
travel to BYU to play BYU in the quarterfinals. He'd said, well,
they're going to kill BYU. Well, theoretically they should. Theoretically
they might, but we have seen massive upsets in the past.
We have, and I'm gonna I'm not gonna go through
a history lesson right now and list them all, but BYU,

(02:30:46):
and their school history has frankly been a giant killer.
Now do I really think they'd beat Ohio State. No,
But rather than theoretically surmise it, like Kevin said, just
treat it as if it's an ice skating tournament or
you know, gymnastics, where they scores and the results become subjective.

Speaker 3 (02:31:05):
This is objective. You've got to beat them on the field.

Speaker 2 (02:31:10):
So then the four quarterfinal games, they're not played at
campus sites. Those four games, which will be scheduled New
Year's Eve and New Year's Day, will be played at
the Fiesta Bowl, the Rose Bowl, the Peach Bowl, and
the Sugar Bowl. The four highest ranked conference champions will
be signed one of those bowls because they want to

(02:31:31):
pay homage and honor the historic bowl relationships as well
as seeding so they'll feel more normal. Then all of
a sudden, you got the four quarter final winners. They're
going to meet at the semi finals of either the
Orange Bowl or the Cotton Bowl. That's January ninth and
January tenth. If those seeds hold, one would meet four,
two would play three. The two semi final winners then

(02:31:52):
play on Janual. On January twentieth, tell me that's not
going to be a big day. That's a Monday, that's
Martin Luther King Day. That's the Presidential long Augeration Day,
January twentieth, that will culminate a month long tournament. I
think this is gonna be incredible, and I don't know

(02:32:14):
that people are gonna argue. And I hate it when
people go on the radio and say, well, you know,
you got twelve teams. People gonna argue you could put
twenty four teams. Someone's still gonna argue you. That's not
true because the arguments are specious. This is decided on
the field. That's the beauty of this. When your conference
and you're in after that, win as many games as

(02:32:34):
you can, have the highest seed, you can have quality wins,
and you're in.

Speaker 3 (02:32:39):
This is not gonna be subjective.

Speaker 2 (02:32:41):
Last year, Florida State would have been in even if
their quarterback went down because they won the ACC And
the bottom line is, while it's presumed Florida State might
not have faredwell, we're never gonna know. And that's the
thing coming up that Bernie Fraddles show continues.

We're back on the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio
Comedy live from the tarret dot Com studios here in
Las Vegas. We are just nine minutes away from the
dance sensation sweep in the nation. What kind of brand

(02:33:20):
new fool are you? Followed by?

Speaker 3 (02:33:23):
What my name?

Speaker 2 (02:33:25):
By the way, just but it couldn't get any worse
for the Cowboys. Dak Prescott the sixty million dollar man.
Divide that by three wins twenty million dollars a win
for Jerry Jones, He's planning to undergo season enduring season
ending surgery on his partially torn hamstring, according to reports

(02:33:45):
this past week.

Speaker 3 (02:33:46):
I guess he's gonna meet.

Speaker 2 (02:33:47):
With another specialist to get a final opinion before going,
you know, getting the operation. And if he gets the operation,
he'll be sidelined for four months. If he ops against surgery,
he'll be six to eight weeks, just in time for
the Cowboys to not make the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (02:34:04):
It's been a pretty more abund year.

Speaker 2 (02:34:07):
Nineteen hundre yards passing eleven touchdowns, eight interceptions. They're three
and five. Looks like Cooper Rush will start. Trey Lance,
a guy who was once acquired when the team traded
for three first round draft picks to get him.

Speaker 3 (02:34:23):
Yeah, how'd that work out?

Speaker 2 (02:34:25):
The Cowboys storyline is one to watch. I mean, they're
returning home. But in twenty twenty four, I mean, going
into this season, they'd won like sixteen straight home games.
Now the Cowboys are on and three. After those sixteen
straight regular season wins at AT and T Stadium, they've been
outscored by sixty six points. The Cowboys have in those defeats.

(02:34:45):
They won't have Dak Prescott Sunday. Big Dan deal, you
weren't winning with him anyway. Interestingly enough, Cooper Rush is
five and one as a starter in the NFL in
his career. Came in twenty twenty two against the Eagles,
who the Cowboys are conveniently playing Sunday. Got picked off

(02:35:05):
three times that day, and you know, I think, well,
twenty twenty two is the last year Cooper Rush even
started in a game. Interestingly enough, also, this makes no sense,
but it doesn't matter. There's no context to this. Running
Back Saquon Barkley is zero to ten in his career
against the Cowboys. Of course, all those losses came when

(02:35:26):
he was a member of the New York Football Giants.
He's got a much more talented group in Philadelphia. They
flourished through eight games. Barkley has been everything as advertised,
averaging almost six yards of carry, ranked second in rushing
yards per game, only behind Dereck Henry. And remember, he's
coming off that electric game and that hurdling reverse hurdle

(02:35:48):
against Jacksonville should be an interesting game. The AJ Brown
is dealing with an injury, but he's back. They're in
a great spot. I hate to say it, this just
feels like a thirty one to fourteen Eagles win. I
don't even know if the Cowboys can score fourteen. We'll
see who the brand new fools are speaking of that
we are just six minutes away. What kind of brand

(02:36:10):
new fool? You followed by? What my name?

Speaker 3 (02:36:13):
Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show
