Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well that's right, you heard the man. It's that time
a week. My name is Bernie Frattle. We are compy
live from the tyraq dot com studios here in Las Vegas.
Fox Sports Radio, tyrack dot com. We'll help you get
there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyrack dot com the
way tire buying should be. Wait, you know you watched it.

(00:28):
Don't act like you didn't. And I know they'll be
the the gratuitous complaints, But the truth of the matter is,
we have a real college football playoff now. And I
know it's a little disjointed. Why is it the number
one seed Oregon who actually beat Penn State, Ohio State,
and Boise State, and of course all three of those

(00:49):
teams are in the tournament. Why is it that they
would ostensibly have a tougher path to the finals, and
say Penn State, who lost to there were only two
tournament opponents, Ohio State and the aforementioned Oregon. But here's
what makes this thing great. Let's not bury the lead.
It's going to be decided on the field and maybe

(01:10):
in future years. Maybe next year there can be some
tweaks like no buys, or maybe you recede after the
first round. But let's not do the ward on Lincoln's nose. Okay,
we've gone from one playoff game decided by a bunch
of writers and the felanx of mathematicians in the Seattle

(01:31):
Times that couldn't expland it themselves called the BCS remove
the Sea, and that's what you really had. Then that
graduated to the four team made for TV invitational tournament
that you heard me rail on over the years. But
now we're going to have eleven playoff games and yeah,
Indiana deserve to be there based on the criteria. Why
would you leave out at eleven and one team whose

(01:53):
only loss was at Ohio State? All right, and yes
they got hammered Thursday night, check that Friday night. But
what you think is the first time that a playoff
team has been hammered in any There have been many
Super Bowls that were blowouts. So to imply that Indiana
didn't be there, it belonged there just because they got

(02:16):
stuffed by a pretty damn good Notre Dame team, that
doesn't change the narrative. It should not change the narrative
that this is a championship based type tournament where your
exploits on the field are going to be more valuable
than the perception and the interpretation from a bunch of

(02:37):
writers who watch the games on TV. Now, I do
think there are going to be some takeaways here, all right.
The funniest thing about these big bloated conferences now is
that you're not going to have balance scheduling. And oh,
by the way, if you do, you're gonna have situations
like Rutgers where it's closer for them to fly to

(02:59):
Europe than it is to fly if they have to
play the Washington Huskies. But the problem is going to
be scheduling that arises once these leagues all hit sixteen teams,
and Indiana is an excellent example of what can happen
with the perfect storm that comes from removing divisions and
randomizing schedules. Think about it. Indiana had a good year,
but they only played two teams in the top half

(03:20):
of the Big Ten. They barely beat Michigan twenty to fifteen,
and they got beat by twenty three at Ohio State.
But the only two losses they had and the only
games the Hoosiers didn't win by at least fourteen points,
but they were the only two teams in the top
half of the Big Ten that they played, So you
haven't in bounced schedule, and balancing a schedule is going

(03:41):
to be damn near impossible in college football given the
volatility of teams on a year to year basis, right,
So this is a weird deal. Both Indiana and Texas
had defending national champion Michigan on their schedule this year,
and they both registered wins over Michigan. That would be
a rank victory in most years, but this year, Michigan

(04:02):
was only seven and five. If they hadn't be a
hotbeat in Ohio State, we wouldn't be talking about them
right now so much. At the end of the day,
it would have been very bad for him to leave
Indiana out of the playoff. And we'll just leave it
right there, and if you want some takeaways going forward,
turns out Notre Dame's balance might be a real problem
for somebody. We'll see how they fare against Georgia on

(04:23):
New Year's Day. But if you've been watching Notre Dame
since they lost that game to Northern Illinois, they're one
of the top two or three teams in the countries
this week too. They've steamrolled all comers on their schedule.
Indiana was no exception. This was the added stakes of
a playoff game. I get it. But Indiana did enter
the game as the nation's second ranked run defense and

(04:46):
they allowed more yards I think of one hundred and
ninety three almost six yards per rush. That speaks to
me as to how good Noted Dame is not whether
or not Indiana should not have been there. And when
Jeremiah I Love turned the corner and took it to
the house for ninety eight, I said, Okay, this game's over.
That was not a slide in Indiana. Notre Dame's got

(05:07):
a bunch of NFL players, Indiana does. They got a
bunch of damn good college players, a lot of them
who transfer from James Madison, who made the most of
their opportunity. And I like what sick Kurt Signetti has
brought to the college game. But as you know, Jeremiah
Love said, there's there's no place like Notre Dame. Riley
Leonard said the same thing. This is a championship caliber team.

(05:28):
You know, I think the Georgia Notre Dame game might
be the de facto championship entrance to get into that game.
I still can't see anybody beating Norton, you know, And
I'll get to a preview later. You already know how
I'd feel about Penn State and such. But I think
this is going to be a chalky weekend as it
pertains to college football. But I do want to talk

(05:52):
about Thursday Night's NFL game because there's so much football
to get to. It's such a fun time of the year.
Give it up to our guy Jim Harbaugh, who pulls
a rule book rule out of his took us that
hasn't been employed successfully since nineteen seventy six, and in
doing so, you could argue that it completely changed the
tenor of the game Thursday Night against Denver and allowed

(06:16):
the Chargers to win. So let's set this up. And
by the way, in case you've been living under a
rocker mars, the Chargers beat the Broncos thirty four to
twenty seven Thursday Night. And that you know, people complain
a lot about the Thursday night games in the schedule,
but that game featured two elements that would make for
a great football game. One certainly playoff implications. By winning,

(06:39):
the Chargers now tied Denver nine and six, and the
records are both nine and six in the standings, and
they assure themselves of the tiebreaker, it will almost certainly
be a wildcard team. I give it, but give Jim
Harbaugh plenty of flowers for taking a five win team
and turning them into this. After what Brandon Staley did
last year, I got I miss him doing in that

(07:00):
cat crawl yoga move. Actually, no, I've don't at all.
That was stupid. Anybody that hires that guy again should
be first line from front of the botomy. That's the
story for a different day. But this is a team,
don't forget just a year ago.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Now.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
They lost December fourteenth and gave up a sixty burger
to the Stinky Raiders. So hardball's taking this team a
long way, the Chargers. The second thing that made the
settlement is this obscure rule. In the Thursday night game,
one of the Chargers scores came with is something called
a fair catch free kick. It's basically a version of

(07:34):
a field goal that a team can attempt after any
fair catch. Now, it's rare for obvious reasons. Usually fair
catches happen well beyond the field goal range.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Right.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Also, teams prefer to drive for touchdowns more so than
kickfield goals. But the wrinkle that came into play on
Thursday night was that if no time remains after a
fair catch interference penalty, an offense can attempt an untimed
free kick. For what it's worth, any fair catch can
be followed by one of these kicks, but it's typically

(08:06):
only worth trying if you're in range and there's no
time on the clock and you have a reasonable field position.
So later, I'll be Harbaugh and I believe this dude,
he's that eccentric, says it's his favorite rule in football.
That play all but guaranteed. I believe the chargers of
the playoff birth. I'll get to that in a second.
And by the way, yes, I knew the rule all right.

(08:29):
Doesn't make me smarter than you, Just mean I knew
that rule. It even includes a drop kick if just
so inclined, you could do a drop kick. In fact,
for you trivia buffs, I may do this on what
my name is Saturday night. The last successful drop kick
in the NFL wasn't that long ago. It's by Doug Flutie.
He's playing for Bill Belichick's New England Patriots against the

(08:51):
Dolphins in two thousand and six. He did it with
a drop kick. So anyway, you know, after the game,
harball again re eight. It's his favorite rule. Here's the thing,
you know, I'm not a body landage expert, but there
was a real shift in this Chargers win after that
fair catch kick at the end of the first half.

(09:11):
Because Herbert had thrown his second interceptions in his mini games,
the Broncos took over, throwing eighteen forty one seconds remaining.
The Chargers forced to stop, and on the ensuing plant,
the Broncos cornerback Tremont Smith interfered with a fair catch
of the punk returner happened to be Darius Davis. That
gave the Chargers an additional fifteen yards to work with.

(09:34):
So instead of a seventy two yard field goal, which
they would never done, Harbaugh said, what the hell, we
have nothing to lose. We try a fifty seven yard
place kick. Cameron dick or the kicker, nailed it. Nailed
it with room to spare. If you watch the body language,
the effect of that swing was completely evident. On the Chargers' sideline.

(09:54):
Several players, including Davis, were ten yards off the sideline
celebrating it. Dick Or jogged off. The kick revitalized the Chargers.
They outscored the Broncos twenty one to three in the
second half. The Chargers defense, by the way, in particular,
started to maybe find its form in the second half
after that fair catch kick. It just energized them, made

(10:16):
it a one possession game. The pass rush came alive,
the defense improved, and there was an energy that just
wasn't present in the first half. That's coaching, that's hardball,
and little things like that. Little things make a difference
that don't necessarily show up in the box score. Coming up,
We've got a legend, Jim Feist. I'm sure you know

(10:39):
who he is. The New York Times dubbed him a legend.
Larry King dubbed him a legend. He's a good friend
of mine. He's a legend here in Las Vegas. Who
are going to have us some real talk about the NFL.
We'll look ahead to Saturday's games, next week's games. Who
can you trust, who don't you trust? And how do
you make hide nor hair of handicapping? The NFL these
days with all the craziness going on. I'm Bernie Fraddle,

(11:00):
who comes to line from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio,
Tiret dot com Studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to
the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
All right, back on the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Come to live from the Tarrat dot com studios. It's
welcome and a gentleman, an absolute legend. The New York
Times dubbed him a legend many years ago. Subsequent to that,
he spent time with Larry King, sharing his expertise on
sports betting and brought Larry King out of the shadows.

(11:34):
And long before PASSPA was overturned in twenty eighteen, this
gentleman recognized as an interstry leader here in Las Vegas.
I would say this, he is still gambling and sports
betting what Clint Eastwood was to action movies. Say hello
to my good friend Jim Fis. Jim, it's so good
to have you on the night.

Speaker 5 (11:52):
Oh, thank you, Ernie. It's great to be here.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
How are you doing well? And it's it's I got
to tell you do these panels and you're in your
around town. It's amazing how many people said, Jim, I've
live here twenty years. I've always wanted to meet you,
and for very good reason. So what I want to
do tonight is have a little fun and talk NFL.
In the second half, I want to run over. I
want to run through some teams and ask you who

(12:17):
can we trust anymore? But before we get to that,
in this day and angel handicapping, Jim, given the fact
that the numbers are so tight, the product is different.
I mean, there were fifty one turnovers last week and
that's the most in nine years. You've got inconsistent refereeing,
Instagram play, everything added all up, Jim, how has that

(12:39):
shaped how you handicap games now versus in the past.

Speaker 5 (12:42):
Well, I think, boy, you that's a lot. That's a
big sentence with it's going to take a long answer. Basically,
your consonence Lebill has to go down a little bit
over a lot when you have a fifty one turn
I didn't realize was that many. Yeah, he's got a
lot of very inconsistent refereeing. And we we've always had

(13:06):
bad beats and bad refereeing. I mean it's it's normal function.
I mean, human beings make mistakes, but they're so inconsistent.
I mean, if you see things out there, you just
pull your hair out, scratch your head, you know whatever.
So I think you have to be very cautious. And
you know, if you're really putting real money on this stuff,

(13:27):
which we all know that a lot of us do,
I think you have to cut back a little bit
to some degree or to a lot just you know,
you're throwing your money up in the wind and you
hope it blows your direction. You got to be a
little bit more careful when when the product is so inferior.

(13:48):
We need to upgrade refereeing. We need to make it
more consistent. We need to have better coaching. Now you're
talking about the quarterbacking and Caleb being number four, Now
what is it? You know A lot has to do
with not his talent. I mean we all know he
can throw the ball, an you can run. He's very talented,
But it's the coaching. He has a bat system and

(14:11):
you got to be really unlucky to get the Chicago
Bears with what's going on over there, and when you
have somebody with Sean Payton, you got he's got a
good coach, and it has to do with coaching. I mean,
you know over in Washington they have good coaches and
Quinn's have been around a long time. Then you got

(14:33):
you're not just talking about the head coach and talking
about the quarterback coach. You're talking about training something. I mean,
some of these young guys have to go to to
a quarterback school in the offseason and learn from the
real pros about what they're doing wrong and let the
films break it down. And it's but the answer to
your question directly, if you're not comfortable what you're seeing

(14:56):
on the field, cut your bets down, be a little
bit more careful with what you're doing.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
And I think that's always a major tenant for sports
betters who don't want to lose their money. Bank Roll
management is extremely important. It's always I think that at
the forefront, talk just a little bit about your theories
on bank roll management. For the casual.

Speaker 5 (15:16):
Oh, I don't think you should. I don't think you
should have any more than two or three percent of
your bank roll on anyone bet. It's just if you have,
if you have a thousand dollars a bankroll, you better
not risk five hundred dollars a play. It's not it's
not wise to do something like that. Then one hundred

(15:38):
dollars bank one hundred dollars bet is even too much.
I mean something like thirty or twenty or thirty dollars
for a thousand dollars bankroll would be sufficient. And then
you've got the number of bets you might be I mean,
if you go out there with thirty bets at twenty
dollars and there's your bank, that's a big part of
your bankroll. So you have to cut down on that
as well. You got to live within your means. I mean,

(15:58):
it's like any you can't you can't spend too much,
you can't risk too much. You have to be careful
you're going to run into I mean, you know, I
just went on a great streak in college basketball. I
was ten out of twelve. Then what happens the next night?
I go, oh three, So now I'm ten out of fifteen.
I mean, you're just it's just a natural. There's there's

(16:20):
a big randomness in what we do. And I've been
doing this six decades and to survive that long with
that kind of pressure, and there's there is a lot
of pressure because you're putting your money at risk every day.
I mean, most people go to work and or whether
they're making fifteen twenty dollars an hour or whatever it is,
they come home and they have that in their paycheck,

(16:42):
and you know at the end of the week, well,
in this business, whatever you earn today, you're putting back
at risk tomorrow. And it's a totally different mentality. You're
going to be almost like an Old West gunslinger because
you get shot down at any time.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Talk with Jim Fife, legendary handy kapper recognize industry leader,
was on Larry King one of the one of the
more entertaining interviews I think I've ever seen in the New
York Times has called them a legend. We're lucky to
have him here in Vegas, and jim'son all around good
guy to have lunch with. I'll tell you so, Jim,
let's say that's before I go down there, our little

(17:19):
roll call of who can we trust. One of the
things I hear people say flippantly is that you know,
Vegas must like that, Vegas must I try to tell
people I'm gonna make a stay of me, and I
just want you to respond to it. I try to
tell people Vegas is not a monolith. We're not in
the prediction business. We're not in the fortune telling business.
The betting line is merely an instrument to create opportunities

(17:40):
for the sportsbook and minimize risk and maximize profit. The
market does the rest respond to that? So people can
understand that there's in some sort of magic crystal ball
Vegas ass.

Speaker 5 (17:51):
Well, you know, I had a long talk with Jake
Cornegie of that. He was on the show that I'm doing,
and you've been on. That sort of came up, not
not directly, but you know, they put up a number,
but that number is everywhere, and it's nobody's gonna You're

(18:11):
not going to see too many places that hang a
four and a half and hang a two and a half.
Most of the numbers are going to be pretty close together,
three two and a half, three and a half. But
since it's a live number, three, you're not going to
see too much deviation off of that. But what you're
what you're talking about is you're talking about mathematics that
make the number and public opinion. I mean, you go

(18:34):
back in the day where Bob Martin made the lines
from you know, back, you're going back a long time,
but I'm going back a long time into what I did.
It wasn't all done with computers and you know in
all the metrics and all the things that are they
were done. Yeah, it was well, they had power ratings.
But you put you put in Okay, what is the

(18:55):
public like the Well, the public likes this team. So
we're going to shade a way and make the public
have to pay a little extra price for the fact
that they love that team. I mean, maybe this year
it's can't Well at the beginning, it certainly was Kansas
City going back for the three pet They haven't lived
up to expectations. They win a lot, but they're not
winning impressively. So you know, the odds maker would would

(19:18):
would have a bias in there because of the public
wants to bet this side. But we're talking public now,
we're talking with Now we look at the Sharks. How
do the Sharks bet? The Sharks don't bet on teams.
They bet on numbers. They're looking, they're doing mathematical equations
and how they the yards for play yard you know everything,

(19:41):
passing yards, rushing yards, offensive line play coaching, biases, et cetera,
et cetera. They're betting on numbers. If they think the
numbers should be four and a half and it's only
and it's five and a half, they're gonna they're gonna
take develop and they don't care what name is next
to the number. They're just going by the numbers and
their analytics. And that's what they do today. And in

(20:04):
the old days, it wasn't so much the analytics. It
was more field.

Speaker 6 (20:08):
It was more what did.

Speaker 5 (20:10):
I see on the field? You know, on these how
they played. Now it's a lot more math because you've
got a lot more you got a lot more computers
involved in what's going on. So but in the old
days it was more field. Now it's still some field,
but there's still a lot of numbers in it.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
Talking with Jim Feist, legendary gambler sports industry here in
Las Vegas, let's start with the Chiefs. So this line
opens up. They're catching too. The presumption was Mahomes might
not play. The line swings all the way around to
the Chiefs minus three and a half. I understand exactly
what you're saying. In some sort of pythagorea in theorem world.

(20:50):
The Chiefs should not be thirteen and one, but they are.
And you know, the game is played by human beings.
I'm one of the only people that still trust the Chiefs.
Your thoughts on Kansas City.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
Chiefs, Well, they have a hell of a head coach.
And first of all, when this game opened up, it
was I saw one and a half, I saw two
to two and a half, and eventually I got the three.
Houston was three. I I bet Kansas City plus three
at that moment. Yeah, well, you know there was I
had no idea that Mahomes was going to play. I

(21:21):
expect them to be out. But here's what you got.
You've got a great defensive coordinator in Specs, You've got
a great head coach in Reed. You've got a pretty
damn good offensive line except for the left tackle, which
they've been playing around with, and you know that's been
a big problem. Why Mahomes has gotten hit as much

(21:41):
as he's had. I mean, they have adequate receivers, but
not great. They're getting Hollywood Brown backed the Chaco's in
the backfield. He makes he's a hammer and he makes
a big difference in the running game, and he has
missed a lot of games. So this is still a
winning team with optional coaching and an exceptional quarterback. Now

(22:03):
you remove if he wasn't playing, you remove Mahomes and
you put in a backup, which happens to be Kent wins.
And he's had his days when he's been good, and
he's been very erratic, kind of like a Jameis Winston
wrote a lot of mistakes. But you know, still you're
betting on a team. It's sometimes Super Bowl champion at

(22:25):
home getting three points. So that's why I took it.
Now it's crazy. He comes, Mahomes comes back, he's practicing
the line stretch, moving and moving, and now you're looking
at Kansas City three, and I'm sure the bookmakers are
going crazy. They got they had Houston three, and now
they got the other side three and a half. So
they're in a very bad situation with this. If there

(22:46):
was enough play early on one side, now they're getting
a lot back on the other side. So it's not
a good situation for the book maker. And some guys
that were able to take both sides of it, they're
getting plus three on each side, and it's not a
bad situation.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
No, no, And you don't see this very often, and
you mentioned Steve Spagnoan. I'm glad you did, because that's
what got me on the Chiefs. Their defense this year
has been the reason that there's a difference maker. They've
They've had twelve sacks in the last three weeks and
Texans have given up almost fifty sacks this year, fifth

(23:21):
most of the league. So I expect their pressure rate
to get to the other quarterback. And look, we've joked
about this Casey Stenego once said teams don't beat the
Yankees and gets stuck staring at the pinstripes. I think
the Chiefs have that kind of a stequ when the
heat gets hot and it's hard to breathe late in
the game and you've got to make a player either side.
That combination of Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelcey and

(23:42):
the defense, they find a way to come up with
when they need to. Let's talk about the Steelers and Ravens.
I'm not sold on the Ravens. I'm not sold on
Lamar Jackson unless it's October. By the way, he's zero
and five against Steve spagnolo defenses. Interesting game tomorrow. This
is a game that's notoriously close. What are you seeing
that with Warren Baltimore laying six and a half.

Speaker 5 (24:04):
Well a their home b they have revenge. See they
have a very great running game with Henry En and Lamar.
But the problem here is you got Tomlin on the
other side. You got you know, you got the wats
Is coming back to play. They do lose the wide

(24:26):
receiver that can take the top off off the off
the defense and give Russell Wilson a chance to hit
some home runs down the field. That's a problem. And
you know this isn't the Russell Wilson of years ago
when he was a championship material at Seattle. He's marginal now,

(24:47):
but he's still good and there's a lot of very
not good quarterbacks in the league. So you know, in
that situation, he's probably in the top twelve out of
the full league. But taking the listening to court, losing
to the wide receiver like that, it's tough, but getting

(25:07):
watchback is. But the history of this, why can't Lamar
step up in big games? I don't know the answer
to that, except I guess the psychologist would say it's psychological.
And Tomlin has a way of beating this team, and
the games are I mean, I think twenty some twenty

(25:28):
five in the last fifty times, it's only been three
points or less. That's right, you know, it's it's pretty
absolutely amazing.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
How cool the dog is thirteen and one of the last.

Speaker 5 (25:36):
Fourteen, oh, I know, and Pittsburgh has won most of
those games, so straight up without the points, and it's
it's pretty amazing. Now you're you're looking at the six
and a half seven point line. I mean, I'm I
can't pass that up.

Speaker 7 (25:52):
I got to be on the Dog, and I mean
I got I got a great coach in.

Speaker 5 (25:57):
Tomlin, I got a you know, a better than average quarterback.
I've got a decent running game. I can control the ball.
I got a good defense. I mean, it's going to
be hard to beat this team on the road because
you're in a revenge situation. But you're talking at six
and a half seven points now, you know, Now you're

(26:18):
talking about a number game. Now you're betting the number.
I can't make it that high. If you made it
three and a half or four, I'd probably be scratching
my head and say, well, maybe I'm not going to
do anything with this. You know, but then I'm looking
at it to say, Okay, there's still a total look
at too. I mean, this is going to be a tough, physical,

(26:38):
normal physical game. You know the AFC, this North is tough.
It's always been a physical division. I'd probably have to
look at the under as well.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
Absolutely well, a lot of the majority of those games
I've gone under. And you've got a divisional game I'll
do North of November, and it's over forty five to total.
So that's a pretty strong train we're gonna we'll finish
up with this, Jim, let's flip to the In the NFC,
the Vikings are twelve and two, the Lions are twelve
and two, the Eagles are twelve and two. There's only

(27:15):
one buy this year. Who do you trust of those
three teams the most to be the one standing and
to buy a corner when the playoffs start?

Speaker 5 (27:25):
Well, if you asked me that three excuse me, if
you asked me that three weeks ago, out of said Detroit.
I can't say that now because of the cluster injuries
they have on defense and losing there. They're very good
running back last week. I still like Detroit a lot,
and I think they're going to make a big effort

(27:46):
this week to get back in the winning calling me
and they're not playing a very good team. However, the
Philadelphia Eagles are playing at a very high level. And
right now, that's that offensive line, that running game that
they have. Hurts is good enough to beat a lot
of people. He's much better than people give him credit

(28:07):
for you, and and the way they're playing right now,
that's the hottest team in football. Even when you look
at the other side in the AFC with Buffalo, Buffalo
would not be able to stop the running game, this
running game that Philadelphia has. And I know a couple
of years ago they said, don't pay the running backs.
It's a waste of money. No, that's bull run. The

(28:28):
best teams in football are the ones that can run
the ball and keep the offensive line and the defenders
a little bit honest and give the quarterback a little
bit more time with the play, you know, the run
pass option, et cetera, et cetera. And you've got Hurts
in this case, he's also can run the ball, so
he can not only pass effectively, but can run. You know,

(28:52):
this is a this is a and of course you
got Barkley. I don't know how the Giants have recovered.
To him, that was insane, but that's incredible. That team
right now is the best team in football.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
Totally agree. Great second half team, great defense, the most
complete team with a stellar running game. Jim, tell the
folks where they can find your stuff, Buddy.

Speaker 5 (29:14):
Well Jimfis dot com. I've had the same website for
a long long time, Jimfis dot com. We've got a
lot of information on there. We also have another channel
which is a gaming portal. Go to YouTube, go to
pro line tv. Subscribe. We have a lot of stuff
on there, a lot of interviews with a lot of
very important people. It's all free. You go to proline

(29:37):
TV on YouTube and there's some tremendous information there for
your enjoyment and to learn about how coaching or thinking
some of the things. And there's some really great I
think we have sixty videos we've put up in the
last thirty days on that website on the pro line TV.

(29:58):
And Jimfis dot com has got some great information as well.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
Jim, great stuff as always. We'll see you soon, Pal,
good luck this weekend.

Speaker 5 (30:07):
Thank you very great talking teens. Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
On ah we said, is the legend Jim Feist follow
him on Twitter. By the way at Jim Feist Sports
FBI st trust me, he's a legend. And by the way,
football fans, be sure to tune into Fox Sports Radio
every Saturday morning beginning at nine am Eastern six am
Pacific for Countdown to Kickoff, presented by bet MGM, Brian Nowhere,

(30:30):
Atchron Berger and Benny Analyst Jared Smith will have you
covered three hours before college kickoffs. Every Saturday morning. Listen
to Countdown to Kickoff presented by bet MGM right here
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart Radio app coming up.
It should be a very opinionated midnight hour, as they
usually are. I want to set it up and go

(30:51):
into a little bit of detail. We've got some subject
matter that I think the folks, the callers have been fantastic.
We are twenty one minutes away from where I sit
here in Law Vegas. It will be twelve midnight literally
and from where you sit, perhaps literally and certainly figured
revely you've got the last word, So I'll set up
the midnight hour. Topics coming up. They're very topical. That's

(31:13):
the Department of Redundancy Department. I'm Bernie fraddlew' kemedy lyon
from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio tarret dot Com studios.
Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Fraddles Show
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
All right, back on the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio,
coming live from the Tarack dot Com studios here in
Las Vegas. We are fourteen minutes away from the midnight hour.
Callers have been fantastic. We've done this almost a full
year now and you can reach us at eight seven,
seven nine nine six six three six nine, eight seven,

(31:51):
seven ninety nine on Fox. All right, couple topics and
of course the rant if you've got something you want.
But here's where my head is at. Look, the college
football Playoff is here, and yes, I get that it's
got loopholes in everything, but it's going to be decided

(32:12):
on the field, and there's always going to be complainers.
But based on what you've seen, do you like it?
I get it? Why would Oregon have a more difficult
path in Penn State? When they beat Penn State, they
also beat Ohio State. Penn State didn't beat them else
beat Boise State. There's some loopholes. Maybe there shouldn't be buys,
maybe the wrong teams are getting buys. We can pick

(32:35):
it apart, like you can pick the part the wart
on Lincoln's nose. But there are also other issues going
on in college football that's part of this larger discussion,
not the least of which is the nil complete wild
West tobacle. You just had Michigan pay twelve million dollars
for a quarterback who's never taken a single snap yet

(32:56):
in college football. Okay, that's part of it. And the
portal madness. Now, we've been talking about portal madness for
a while, but it's reached a fever pitch. Penn State
will play SMU here, it'll kickoff in a little over
nine hours. Both of their backup quarterbacks have entered the portal.

(33:17):
Bull Perbula, who is a backup queue for Prince State,
and he's contributed. I think he's seen time in almost
every game this year. I think he's accounted for in
his Penn State career for like nineteen touchdowns. And James
Franklin was very classy. He's not mad at the kid.
The systems flawed, all right, there should be. Nick Saban

(33:38):
has suggested get through springball and then maybe in May
you have a thirty day free agency period. But if
you are affecting teams that are currently in the College
Football Playoff. Preston Stone is the backup quarterback at SMU.
I have no idea what the situation is there. All
I know is he also, he too is in the

(34:00):
is in the transfer portal. So when you've got when
you've got a situation where you've now got players that
are still involved in the CFP Playoff hitting the portal,
and you've got Marshall University who had twenty nine players
in one fell swoop enter the portal. So Marshall was

(34:21):
not able to play their bowl game. All right, So
this is the new college football players getting paid? No problem.
You want to work, you want to you know, you
want to do that. Fine, it's not regulated. It's going
to be more regulated. They'll start to put up some guardrails.
I don't know if they ever completely get their arms
around it. But between the College Football Playoff, we've got

(34:42):
a fabulous triple header on Saturday. Still, there are some
people that don't like the way teams were selected based
on perhaps strength to schedule. Perhaps on yeah, I do
realize Alabama I believe would beat SMU, But there are
a three loss team and that conference at four teams
to the playoff, and look, you get the picture. This

(35:03):
is what we have. Do you like it? I do.
I'm here for it. I get there's change. We once
fought wars with a single shot rifle. So want to
hear the people's thoughts about that. And by the way,
you've heard me say it a thousand times. The most
boring conversations are when everybody agrees. So just bring it

(35:23):
and I know you will. Second thing is, I want
to talk Bill Belichick. All Right, this book's just missing
a chapter to be You're not going to sell me
on the fact that it was just dream to go
to North Carolina. There are other factors that play here,
So let's just play. Let's just play the handword dealt.

(35:44):
Bill Belichick right now is a head coach at North Carolina.
How long is he going to be there? You think
he'll stay three years? You think he's won and done?
Will it work? Meaning will he get this? Will he
get North Carolina to the playoff? What will be their legacy?
What will be his success? Rate there will Bill Belichick

(36:08):
every be back in the NFL. Let's play it, you know,
I know it's against a lot of practice psychology, with
a lot of license, but we do it because it's
sports talk radio. And part of the reason I'm broaching
it in this fashion is that Bill Belichick's North Carolina
contract has one interesting wrinkle that will very much, I believe,

(36:28):
at least keep speculation about him returning back to the
NFL alive, despite his own words that he shoots it
down every day. I'm not buying it. First things First,
Bill Belichick's deals for five years through December twenty twenty
nine will pay him ten million annually in base salary,
and he's got some supplemental income there. Now, the first
three years are guarantee that the file two or not,

(36:50):
so it effectively makes it a three year, thirty million
dollar contract if you know, North Carolina decides after three years, okay,
we've had enough or whatever. Whatever. But Belichick's buyout terms
not exactly what you typically find in most college football
coaching contracts. You see, what if Bill Belichick terminates to

(37:14):
deal without costs? All right? For instance, Let's say something
happened and all of a sudden between now and June first,
which is right around the corner, an NFL job was
offered to him. Somebody's gonna owe North Carolina ten million dollars.
But if they offer him that job June second, that

(37:37):
drops to one million dollars. Why would you put that
clause in that contract? Now, there was an introductory press conference,
which you've all seen a thousand times. In his beautiful
powder blue suit, Belichick said, quote, he didn't come here
just to leave. When asked whether or not he would
consider returning into the NFL, you know, he says, I
feel like doing it for a long time, and I'm

(38:00):
sure he does. I know he likes to coach, that's fine,
and he he's what was born to be a coach.
And he's only fourteen wins away from Don Jule's all
time record, which we all thought he wanted, but maybe
he doesn't. But he called this job coaching in college
a dream come true. Are you really buying that? Come on? Man?

(38:21):
Remember back in two thousand, Belichick agreed to become the
Jets head coach for one day. Then he stepped down
before his press conference so we could take the Patriots jobs.
Now there'll be at least seven openings this year when
all is said and done, only one so far as
interviewed Belichick. That was last year the Falcons. But I

(38:42):
will be shocked if this year's cycle or next year's
cycle comes through and there isn't even a conversation about
with Bill Belichick. So those are our two midnight hour
subjects tonight eight seven, seven, nine nine six three sixty nine.
The college football Playoff is here? Do you like it?
Tell me your thoughts on the portal of the Crazy Marshall.
Twenty nine players exit kend even played their bowl game.

(39:03):
Penn State's backup quarterback backing out throwing the freaking playoff?
For crying out loud, Bill Belichick? How long is it
gonna be at UNC? Is it gonna work? Will they
make a playoff? What's gonna happen? Keep it locked? You're
listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (39:20):
Don're listening to Fox Sports Radio?

Speaker 2 (39:24):
Yep, that's right, you heard the band Bernie Fraddle Show
keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Fraddle. Would
come to your line from the tyrack dot Com studios
here in Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio Tyrack dot com
will help you get there, an unmatched selection, fast free
shipping for you, Ronazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended
installars tyrack dot com the way tire buying should be

(39:46):
all right. Some people think it's ruining college football. I don't,
but it's not good. The nil, the transfer portal, and
of course the college Football Playoff twelve teen to format
Indiana and Notre Dame made history Friday night. Do you
like it? Your thoughts, complaints, how would you change it?
Or we've also got out the rant callers have been

(40:07):
great eight seven seven nine nine six six three sixty
nine eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Let's hear
from you. Yep, it's that time. It's been that hour,
all right, Jim. I'm glad you're leading us off tonight
because I want to hear from you on both both
subject matters and don't hold back. And I know you
won't start wherever you want.

Speaker 8 (40:29):
Bernie, no way, no way with this new twelve and
twelve team thing. I think that's gonna explode in about
five years. Just like you mentioned the whole team from
Marshall going into transfer transfer portal. I just think that's
gonna it's in time, it's just going to ruin everything.
It's just going to ruin the whole.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
As long as people keep watching. And I'm not gonna
stop watching it as long as people can bet on
a gym and the stands were packed tonight, and then
I'm sure the TV ratings are going to be great.
You know, we're all a bunch of slappies. We need
our sports. Don't you think it finds a way to
sustain itself.

Speaker 4 (41:06):
No, because you added three more games to a college
and a way. You're talking about kids that are seventeen
to twenty one years old that you know, not everybody
can make the pros, but that's all what they're thinking about.
And I just think it's gonna make for a lot
of bodily injuries these young kids and setting them up
with even if they are great athletes. Just you know,

(41:28):
it's it's just a Russian Rulette type of thing. I
just I just don't like it. Too young a players,
you know, and too younger adults and all that's going on.
And like I said, what's going on at Masha. I
just think it's gonna it's just going to open a
bad can of worms within five years and then they're
going to reevaluate their whole program.

Speaker 2 (41:48):
You know, all right, let's talk about Belichick. You're in
his neck of the woods for many years. I feel
like this book's missed in a chapter. What are your
thoughts about this whole North Carolina deal.

Speaker 4 (41:59):
I think he's gonna know. I personally think he's gonna
like it there. He always he owns homes up here,
you know, on the vineyard and other places where it's
like in the country setting. I mean, it's a beautiful
area where he's going to I'm sure he knows that.
And yeah, he did all he had to do in
the Pros. I mean, I don't think he really cares

(42:19):
about the twelve games, you know, to take the lead
over Shua. I think he's he like you said, he
loves coaching, and I think he wants to get back
with the kids. And you said it yourself. When you're
coached in the on the pros, it's like manage an
adult day kiss center. And he's been there twenty five years.

Speaker 3 (42:37):
I think he's done with that.

Speaker 5 (42:38):
I think he's got peace.

Speaker 2 (42:40):
You know, he may very well be right, you know
what time hotel, But you may very well be right.
I appreciate it, Jim. Thanks buddy. Christopher in North Carolina
joins this. So I'm hoping you've got some thoughts on
Belichick being there. Are you in your chapel Hill?

Speaker 9 (42:57):
Well, I'm currently in Hilton Head, South Carolina on my
Christmas break, Bernie, but I do live in Charlotte and
it will be very interesting to see.

Speaker 3 (43:06):
I've got two takes on it.

Speaker 9 (43:08):
Number one, since his dad was a graduate of the university.
It's a great Alma mad thing. It makes you and
see something marketable again. So all we don't talk about
is basketball.

Speaker 6 (43:21):
But let's be realistic.

Speaker 9 (43:24):
The NL I have money is set up to make
these strategic teams that have the most money the best players.
And are you going to tell me Bill Belichick's going
to get that kind of money to get that kind
of talent something of value in the eighties?

Speaker 2 (43:41):
Hold on, God, stay right there, Christopher, because you have
just hit a bullseye on the one thing that none
of us are going to know until it happens, and
it's going to He's got that four star recruit, five
star recruit out of Texas locked up, plugged him in
a running back. You're going to getting three million a
year and the next day he calls back and says, sorry, coach,

(44:03):
I'm going to Miami. They gave me five million. You
know that's gonna happen. How's belchicking a deal with that?

Speaker 9 (44:09):
Think about it another way, just like how Michigan based
on our route, based on you and I coming from Michigan.
Look what Michigan did when they stole the talent from LSU.
It's not gonna be the university. It's gonna be where
the money gets, just like the NFL. So yeah, it's
a shiny new penny. It makes UNC look great, But honestly,

(44:33):
tell me how many true athletes are gonna come and
be a part of UNC. I mean, it's a great campus.

Speaker 10 (44:41):
It's the greatest.

Speaker 2 (44:42):
Think about it. Think about it if the money is there. Listen,
we all know what happened to SMU with Craig James
and Eric Dickerson and the Pony Express. That was nineteen
seventy eight. So it can't happen. But the question is
who's got the deep pockets in North Carolina to compete
with what Michigan's willing to all of a sudden to

(45:03):
spend now and some of the other schools.

Speaker 6 (45:07):
Well, you'll see it.

Speaker 9 (45:08):
They'll spend the money at the college side for basketball,
they'll drop millions. And I mean they've got some of
the best arena pools and features for any college basketball
program in the country. But it's all going to come
down to can you get the money which the booties have?
Are they going to call it up?

Speaker 11 (45:26):
One and two?

Speaker 9 (45:28):
Is he truly going to relate to eighteen year olds
at seventy bus Come on, Bernie, it's not going to happen.
He's not going to be interested in real quickly.

Speaker 2 (45:38):
So I want to get together calls. Do you have
any thoughts on the twelve teen playoff format?

Speaker 4 (45:43):
It's a joke.

Speaker 9 (45:45):
It's just a way, well think of it just this way.
We're going to have the best game tonight, and so
after tonight, who's going to care because Oregon is not playing.
So we'll have our best game in Georgia tonight, and
after that, nobody's gonna care anymore because the best page

(46:05):
you're already going to be played, and so who we
have left isn't gonna matter because people are going to
be thinking about the holidays again. So Merry Christmas to you,
my friends. Thanks for taking my call. I wish you
and all your teams a very happy holidays. I look
forward to talking to you agetting twenty five.

Speaker 2 (46:23):
Great thanks Christopher, Mike in Texas joins us next, welcome in, Mike.

Speaker 10 (46:27):
How are you hi, Ernie?

Speaker 12 (46:29):
How are you good man?

Speaker 2 (46:31):
Where would you like to start on these two topics?

Speaker 10 (46:35):
I'm okay with starting with Belichick? Give you and I
think you know Jordan went to you and you didn't
played basketball or whatever.

Speaker 13 (46:44):
I think you played for the name Belichick.

Speaker 9 (46:47):
Is a how many super Bowl winners?

Speaker 10 (46:50):
I think anybody would want to play some one. I
don't think it matters really about the money and what
you've got to pay to get people to come, you know,
in IL, I just think people don't want to play
for billetechause everybody.

Speaker 2 (47:04):
I think you're going to have some of that. I
think you listen, that's fair. But what we are seeing
unequivocally his players will leave for more money tomorrow, and
we're seeing that for some of these guys, it's life
changing money. Do you think Belichick will stay at North
Carolina at least three years?

Speaker 10 (47:26):
I mean, the dude, I don't. I don't know that
if he toach him much longer. I think this is
maybe his last bashes.

Speaker 5 (47:34):
Bit and and he wants that.

Speaker 14 (47:36):
He wants to go out on a big one.

Speaker 2 (47:38):
And the better to do it, which is a un
or do anything on the playoffs like the playoffs as
far as the tub team playoff.

Speaker 6 (47:47):
I am from.

Speaker 10 (47:48):
Texas, I am from Lubbock. I am a Red Raider.
I get that, But it seems like boydi states have
been who've been streaming for years of the Midwest Conference
gives us a camp and now here we are the
first time that the first year of the twelft playoffs
and boys do say finished. So I mean, I think

(48:12):
I think it benefits college football. And I'm kind of
tired of saying, you know, the extended playoffs in the
NBA and the NFL and and and whatever you have
it that way. Where the MLB is going with theirs,
I don't know.

Speaker 14 (48:27):
But.

Speaker 5 (48:28):
It's behind on the day.

Speaker 10 (48:30):
And to only have four teams to play for a
national championship over the years, I say, I think you give,
give give most of the conferences can't get a player.

Speaker 2 (48:39):
Yeah, give them a chance.

Speaker 10 (48:40):
So yeah, not just players, it's it's about it's about
schools and pay you know South Dakota State Community College.
If their team is rocking, let's let's see what.

Speaker 3 (48:54):
Them to do.

Speaker 2 (48:54):
All right, thanks a lot, Mike. Look, but it brings
up a good point there, and that is you start
your season. What other sports you start your season and
you say, no, matter what we do, we can't play
for a championship. We're going to be blocked out. And
I did a long commentary on this a couple of
Decembers ago, and that's wrong. Now there's a path. There

(49:15):
actually is a path. I mean not be an easy one,
but exists. Hey, Jerome and Charleston, what's happening Jerome?

Speaker 6 (49:23):
You didn't get your shots?

Speaker 15 (49:24):
Did you under the weather?

Speaker 2 (49:27):
Dude? I'm on antibiotics, Dude, I got I got a
sinus infection. I might as well just run my face
into a brick wall, but I don't. You will never
see me calling sick Jerome.

Speaker 7 (49:36):
Uh huh uh huh.

Speaker 6 (49:38):
Hey. By the way, Kurk Club would be very happy
with the modern day going on.

Speaker 1 (49:45):
Oh man, with all the money.

Speaker 2 (49:47):
I'm mad at the Players Union for not giving Kurt
Flood his own shrine, and Pam is just taking care
of him the rest of his life. But we'll have
to We'll talk about that another day.

Speaker 6 (49:58):
Let's talk about he were talking about the Belichick relating. Hey,
he's got a twenty four year old girlfriend. He's relating
pretty good by now, Okay, so don't talk about him
relating to these young guys. And by the way, when
I think of Belichick, I think of that old song
bought the min A song.

Speaker 2 (50:17):
Well, here here's the thing, here's the thing. I got
a lot of callers, jerum, I want a standpoint. Here's
the thing I want to focus on. Though. Yeah, you
heard me talk about some of the stipulations in Bill
Belichick's contract, which raises eyebrows. Is he is he want
a stepping stone back to the NFL? Is he gonna
love it at North Carolina? Is he going to have

(50:38):
success there? And what a success? Well, his success is
getting to the twelve team playoff. Now you got to
get to the dann plaoff.

Speaker 6 (50:45):
You think he'll do it in Tan here it's called
playing both bands against the mill as a rock shop.
He may stay one or two years, it was not
he gets a better offer. He's probably going back to
the NFL because that's where he's most comfortable. Lad so
real cree.

Speaker 2 (51:02):
You like the new playoff format, yes or no.

Speaker 6 (51:04):
It's not a Finnish product yet, but they all live
with it for now, to the to the powers that
be decided what they really want because it's not it's
not a Frennish product yet. They're gonna keep tweaking it
until they get it like they really.

Speaker 2 (51:17):
Want it to be. Now that's a measure response. I agree,
I agree, all right, thanks a lot cher. Hey Kyle
in Vegas back three weeks. Good, good to hear from you.
What's going on, man?

Speaker 15 (51:27):
What's going on?

Speaker 5 (51:28):
Bernie?

Speaker 15 (51:29):
Happy holadays? Merry Christmas because you won't be on there
that day, So give it to you now.

Speaker 3 (51:34):
So I got a couple of.

Speaker 15 (51:36):
Things before I get it, before iotens your topics. The
first thing is if Rody Johnson actually did this with
his matting rating and not wanting to trade for players
for that, we're gonna have it, and we're gonna have
Madden players becoming gms. We're getting jobs as offensive.

Speaker 4 (51:52):
Coordinators or defensive coordinators soon.

Speaker 15 (51:54):
That's the first thing. Second thing, the NBA sucks right now.
Don't even want to talk about it. Don't even bring
it up, don't you mentioned the NBA because it's trash.
Now to go to your Bill Belja Bill Belichick's topic,
he hasn't out. He credited a pipeline system to where
if he wants to leave, he can leave and not
owe anybody anything, not even an explanation as to why

(52:16):
he gleeping. So I give him credit for that. It's
an exit strategy. But however, that tends to play on
the psyche of what he's really there for. And I
agree with you that he's not planning to stay longevity.
It's not a long it's not a long tenure that
he's playing on stage. He can tell people all the
stuff that he wants to tell him, but he ain't staying.
And as far as the playoffs go, man, listen, I

(52:38):
agree with Jerome.

Speaker 7 (52:39):
It's not a finished product.

Speaker 15 (52:40):
It's not clean, it's not polished, but it's something for
right now. The way I'm looking at it is it's
a participation trophy. Everybody's going to get something.

Speaker 4 (52:48):
At the end of the day.

Speaker 15 (52:49):
You can't please the masters, and next thing you know,
we're gonna have a ninety six team playoff style tournament
like a basketball and I don't want that to.

Speaker 4 (53:00):
Race the sport.

Speaker 15 (53:01):
You know, I'd not to see some of these kids
play these final games instead of transferring out. You know,
back when I played college ball, you know, back when
a lot of us remember college football. You get to
a Sugar Bowl, you get to an Orange Bowl, you
get to a Rose Ball, I Fiesta Ball. Those were
your championship games. Those were the games that you looked
forward to. Now these kids are like, hey, I make
twelve million dollars. Why would I go out there and

(53:23):
go risking injury and then not get drafted. But then
they get drafted in third round and they still a millionaires.

Speaker 2 (53:30):
Yeah, you covered a lot of really good ground there, Kyle,
And I don't disagree with anything you said. And don't
be a stranger man. This is what I want to do.
Provoke thought and James Lynn, Jim hanging there, don't go
anywhere you are. We're getting all yeah. And I want
to give everybody plenty of air time tonight. And regarding Belichick, Okay,

(53:54):
I want people to remember this. Bill Watsh was as
legendary as coach. In his time as Bill Belichick, those
forty nine er teams were dominant. He was called the
Genius for a reason. He found Joe Montana the same way,
essentially that Tom Brady was found by Bell Belichick at Michigan.
Bill Walsh, after winning his three Super Bowls, went back

(54:17):
to college. He coached Stamford for three seasons. He's final
a record next Stint seventeen seventeen and one. The real
narrative will be whether or not Belichick wins or loses,
and that will shape and form formulate the real narrative.
James Lynn, Jim, You're up next. Eight seven seven nine

(54:37):
nine six six three sixty nine. Let's hear from you.
The Midnight Hour is off and running. I'm Bernie Fraddle,
coming to you live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio Tireck dot com Studios. Keep it locked. You're listening
to the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (54:51):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (54:56):
All right, back in the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio,
coming life from the tarat dot com Studios. About halfway
through another Rockets edition of the Midnight Hour. Is still
plenty of time to get in. Eight seven seven nine
ninety six six three sixty nine. We want to hear
from you. Callers have been outstanding so far. We got
some good ones lined up here. We're talking about the

(55:18):
college football playoff twelve team.

Speaker 4 (55:20):
Do you like it?

Speaker 2 (55:22):
And also this whole situation with nil portal transfers and
Bill Belichick. All Right, why am I not accepting on
face value that he says he's going to go to
North Carolina to be happy and I could very well
be wrong. James in Los Angeles. Thanks for hanging on there, Bud.
What what do you got for us today?

Speaker 4 (55:41):
What's uping man A.

Speaker 3 (55:44):
You know I'm old school. I still believe Hagler was
robbed in that Sugar Linards fight. I'll go to my
grave believe in it, and I'm always gonna hold on
to that. Having said that, to everything turn turn earn.
I love the college football playoffs. I think for me

(56:05):
this gives the bowl game for validity because how many
times do we have the rolls, the sugar.

Speaker 2 (56:13):
The.

Speaker 3 (56:16):
The orange that that you know at the end of
the at the.

Speaker 4 (56:20):
End of the year.

Speaker 3 (56:20):
It was a great bowl game, but it didn't need
it anywhere. What it did would set you up for
the next year. Apart it may gave you some some
some some gross for next year.

Speaker 7 (56:34):
But now it's all.

Speaker 3 (56:36):
Kind of centered in to where it does mean something.
To get to each Bowl game is the stuffing stone
for something else.

Speaker 16 (56:45):
So I love it.

Speaker 3 (56:46):
I think it it uh you know, gives you a
chance to to to lose and and and uh go
through those things. Ohio State is still in it, and
they married they may very well win at all with
two losses. And and that tells me right there that uh,

(57:08):
you know, they they troubled the organ and then they
they messed up again and they're still able to to
pull pull their fat out of the fire. So to me,
I love it that they get a chance. I still
think they're the best team in the country. I still
think that even though they have two losses, that they're

(57:29):
better than Texas and.

Speaker 2 (57:31):
And and the beauty, here's the beauty of it, here's
the beauty of the James. Whatever the hell happens is
going to be decided on the field. We don't have
to speculate if this and that or what we all had,
if it's and butts were you know, candy and nuts
with all the merry Christmas. It's going to be decided
on the damn field.

Speaker 3 (57:51):
The point and and that is what that is what
we've been looking for forever, and now that we got it,
they're still in. They sayers that are They're saying, oh, well,
what about teams fourteen, fifteen, and six. You know they
weren't They're gonna keep fighting for that and they weren't

(58:12):
good even if they they twelve was enough.

Speaker 2 (58:15):
But we know, Well, here's the thing, I'm not sure
if I like to buys, maybe you have sixteen in
the first four seeds, get two home games if they win,
and listen, I know Alabama would have beaten several teams
in this field. But they didn't beat Oklahoma, they didn't
beat Vanderbilt. So it was decided on the field that
they didn't get in. So there's no that's where they

(58:38):
had their chance. I got to get to the other
callers real quickly. Belichick, Yes, no, thumbs up, thumbs down.
What's up?

Speaker 3 (58:45):
He has supplanted himself as the greatest coach to me
in history. If he wants to go out, you know,
into the Ponderosa any way he wants to, that's fine.
Let him go out the way that he wants deserved.

Speaker 2 (59:00):
It sounds good man. I'm I'm down with that. I mean,
I had no problem with that. I just am curious
what is this whole North Carolina thing really about Lynn
and San Diego. Perhaps you can answer some of these
pressing questions facing the world tonight.

Speaker 14 (59:17):
Yeah sure, thank you, Bernie. You're a staff the girls.
She's real courteous, always answers on the first or second ring.
So this is the greatest radio show on earth right
now for his unncerners taking the time as well. Yeah, thanks,
so let me be a part of it. College football.

(59:39):
I like the new setup because it gives you more
to watch, more to see, more people can be the
chance to play. And the only reason why I wouldn't
like it is because I'm a major, major USC fan
because Charles White used to let me in the games
when I was growing up in South Central only many
years ago. So I'm in love with that sea forever.
But I'm it because I love college football. So they

(01:00:02):
answer to your question, I really like it a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:00:07):
Yeah, I like you too. We've gone from one playoff
game to three to now eleven. And you know what,
if you do right, you're going to find a way in.
And if you don't deserve to get in, you don't
deserve to get in. But it's going to reduce arguments.
I think at the National Champion. What are your thoughts
on Belichick?

Speaker 14 (01:00:28):
The only thing I don't like his money is running
everything college games, the pros. They're paying them too much.
I hope these kids continue to get paid, but I
wish they stopped jumping around so much. Just let you yes,
I mean yes, and then I won't take up too
much of your time. But okay, so I don't really

(01:00:48):
know Belichick, but I know he had a good run
with Tom Brady. But what I do know about Belichick
isn't his girlfriend twenty four year old?

Speaker 5 (01:00:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:00:59):
Yeah, I guess I don't.

Speaker 14 (01:01:00):
Look, this is where I'm going with it.

Speaker 2 (01:01:04):
Look, it's not a it's not a good look. It's
none of my damn business I would say this about.
I'm just trying to figure out only this. Maybe I
didn't I didn't lay out the subject properly. Is Belichick
going to stay at North Carolina three years? Is he
gonna bolt to the NFL? Is he gonna win? Is
he gonna get to a playoff? That That's all I'm
trying to figure out here. Okay, Because no one, and

(01:01:26):
I mean no one saw this coming. Then all of
a sudden it's coming through. Yeah, come on, man, I
I you know, come on, I call bs on that,
all right, Mabe it is maybe I'm wrong.

Speaker 14 (01:01:37):
Go ahead, we'll make a final comment and get off.
Belichick he looking for challenges late stage in life, so
he's out playing.

Speaker 5 (01:01:49):
Uh.

Speaker 14 (01:01:51):
He obviously likes young girls, so he's at a place
where a lot of them are. He's getting paid excellent me.

Speaker 2 (01:02:01):
Hello, but is he gonna win? He gonna stay, That's
all I'm trying to figure out.

Speaker 14 (01:02:07):
All right, he goes stay till he started playing, Bertie,
you go stay till he started playing.

Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
I'll be very all right. Thanks a lot learning Merry Christmas.
I would just say this, I'll be very curious what
happens if the right NFL team comes along with the
right package. Be very curious. Uh, Jim and Iowa, you're
up next. Thanks to your patience. Hey, Bertie, what are
your thoughts tonight? Jim?

Speaker 16 (01:02:31):
I think Belichick is going back to the pros eventually.
I think that nobody wantsing right now. I think due
to h maybe how he treated Brady and also the
Craft situation, I think he'll go down to uh North
Carolina be the big CEO show. That he can run
the show again, and uh, one of your disperate teas
will probably give him a chance.

Speaker 2 (01:02:51):
And also I think he stays at Carolina all three years.

Speaker 16 (01:02:55):
You win one, two max one or two mats. These
men like him Popperman have huge e goose and you're
that close to something special like that, he wants it bad.

Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
Yep, I agree with that. Thanks, thanks a lot, you
appreciate it, bud uh Manuel in Guardiana. I'm sure you
have got a lot of thought these subjects.

Speaker 12 (01:03:22):
Just known to celebrate, Ernie. How the hell are you?

Speaker 2 (01:03:27):
My marriage doing fine? Doing fine? Happy holidays?

Speaker 12 (01:03:30):
Man, Well, hey Mary, Christmas to you and all the staff.
Let's get down to the brat tax here. That college
football thing, I'm not a fan. I don't like it.
I think it's way too overblown. I know that there
was not a great system in play, but uh, I

(01:03:52):
don't think there was too many national champs that were
actually like challenged or split.

Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
So I don't know.

Speaker 12 (01:03:59):
I just think it's a overkill. I'm not a fan
of the guys being able to leave during the playoffs either.

Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
I think that's that's crazy. That's crazy.

Speaker 12 (01:04:09):
And the money that they're throwing around I mean, I
guess it's good for the kids, but I don't know. Man,
it's not called cathletics some more.

Speaker 5 (01:04:18):
It's the minor league.

Speaker 12 (01:04:20):
That's how I look at.

Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
It, you know what, I was thinking that same thing. Now.
It's basically essentially become a way station for the NFL
and the minor leagues where if you don't get to
the big leagues, you can still get paid. So you
get paid a little pay a little bit maybe, you know. Listen,
and I want to set it up this way. This

(01:04:41):
is all I care about with the Belichick thing. Is
he gonna win? And is he going to stay there?

Speaker 12 (01:04:48):
As far as Belichick, I think he's setting up with Turbil,
but Turabal being steede have you ever seen speede?

Speaker 2 (01:04:55):
Oh that was part of the contract. That's that's one
of my understandings. And Bobby Knight did the same thing
with his son back in Texas Tech like in two
thousand and seven or two thousand and eight.

Speaker 12 (01:05:06):
Go ahead, So he's going to lebron route and Epatism
and at least the Stevies, you know, credit. He might
look like a giant Turbul, but he actually had some
football knowledge, so it might work out. But you know
as well as I do, Berny, he wants on shoeless record.
If anybody gets in the shot, he's on.

Speaker 5 (01:05:27):
The first aage.

Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
Well that's my thing.

Speaker 12 (01:05:29):
I don't care if he's got a twenty four year
old eight tall or not.

Speaker 3 (01:05:33):
All right, I've.

Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
Always believed you want a chewless record. Thanks, Manuel, And
I see you know. I feel that Belichick had to
do something and this is a preemptive strike and an
NFL team can still come along, and there is a
buyout if you want to be able to listen college
NFL coaches Phil Right and left and anyway, let's not good.

(01:05:57):
Let's get to the callers. Go back out to the lines.
Are in the riverside, California. Thanks for hanging on out,
you're up next.

Speaker 5 (01:06:04):
Yeah, Hey, hey, Ernie, nice to talk to you.

Speaker 13 (01:06:07):
Just wanted to say, back in the nineteen eighties when
I first started betting football, I remember the name Jim Fie,
Jim Fist and Mike Warren and those guys. You probably
remember them too.

Speaker 5 (01:06:20):
I just want to say it.

Speaker 2 (01:06:21):
I'm a good deal.

Speaker 13 (01:06:24):
Glad GYM is still around. And also I'm glad they
went to the twelve team. But it should have been sixteen. Now,
just look how perfectly this would have worked if you
have sixteen teams instead of twelve. Everybody has to play
three games to get the championship game, not some playing
three and others only having to played two. Plus all

(01:06:45):
three teams in the SEC that complained Alabama, Mississippi, and
South Carolina would all have been in the playoffs, and
the one other team that complained, Miami, would have been
in two. And I wanted to say about Indiana's schedule,
this is really fun.

Speaker 5 (01:07:05):
I've listened on the computer.

Speaker 13 (01:07:06):
I've read maybe ninety to one hundred sports articles since
this whole selection, this college selection thing has started. And
nobody on the radio, no article on the computer, nothing
has has Nobody has criticized Boise schedule. It's all about
Indiana's schedule. I think they want to pick on a

(01:07:28):
nationwide conference. And I've come to realize that Boise is
not a hot talk topic. But nobody really cares about
Boise except the people in that area.

Speaker 4 (01:07:38):
But boys, it is.

Speaker 2 (01:07:40):
Here and their only loss was at Oregon about field goal. Yeah,
and they're very good and they'll play the winner of
SMU Penn State. Right, here's the beauty of this, and
I'll give you the last words, and I gotta let
you run. It's going to be decided on the field.
You see, we won't have to wonder golly would Boise
have beaten kinds of state? Go ahead, you got the last.

Speaker 13 (01:08:01):
Word, had effectively. I'm sure you're old enough to remember it.
I am too. Bois technically had a one double A schedule.
Back when I was in college, there was a Division
one A in a one double A and one double
A was a tier below one eight. Boise play teams
like Portland State, Utah State, Oregon State, San Jose State, Hawaii,
Wyoming and the that arena that is a one double

(01:08:23):
A schedule, but they got no criticism whatever. And Notre
Dame schedule was no better than Indiana, so I'll prove it,
and similar with SMU and Clemson two. Notre Dame played
Virginia pretty good at not ranked Georgia Tech pretty good,
not ranked Florida State last place in the ACC, Stanford
next to last in the ACC. Stanford was only three

(01:08:44):
and nine, Purdue last place, and in the beginning, I.

Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
Got you, I got you don't know listen, and who.

Speaker 13 (01:08:52):
They lost to their schedule was no better than Indiana's,
but not one word of criticism about Notre Dame schedule
because it was all about history in is bad history
and emotions.

Speaker 2 (01:09:02):
But okay, Ed, thanks for checking in. I hope you
can hear this comment and call next week. This is
gonna continue. Indiana had their chance on the field against
Notre Dame, and they deserve to be there, but they
were overmatched. So we can no longer argue about what
your schedule was or how your results were because when

(01:09:23):
the game got kicked off on the field, you could
pretty clearly see that Notre Dame was the much better team.
But you bring all valid points. All right, coming up,
we're gonna wrap up the midnight hour, But Michael in Louisiana,
Mike and Modesto and Henry Minneapolis, don't go anywhere. Definitely
want to hear what you've got to say on both
on both subjects. Rapid Radios, by the way, are the

Keep it locked and the hour continues Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:10:12):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio or back at.

Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
The Bertie Fradle Show Fox Sports Radio. Been a good,
strong min that hour. As per usual, Let's go back
out to the phone lines, joined by Michael and Louisiana. Michael,
thanks for checking in and out. What are your thoughts.

Speaker 7 (01:10:33):
About the college playoffs? I think every team that got
in deserved.

Speaker 6 (01:10:37):
To get in.

Speaker 7 (01:10:38):
Every team that deserved to get in is in, but
there were some teams that obviously might not have been
up the snuff that snuck in. I honestly think Army
deserved to get in. But Belichick, uh, you know, he's
got an aura around him, one of the most successful
coaches of all time. I think the trick will be

(01:10:59):
for him if you can convince enough of these kids
that come into his team will get them ready for
the NFL and they'll sacrifice some of that nil money
for the potential learnings in the future.

Speaker 2 (01:11:12):
That's possible Is it too idealistic though, to think that way,
given the.

Speaker 7 (01:11:17):
Way this whole thing is rolling, Well, of course, I
mean you're gonna have to pay some of these marquee players,
the ones that are pretty much guaranteed to get a
spot in the draft one of these years, whenever they
decide to leave. But I mean putting together the entire roster.
You can't pay everybody, And I think he's got the

(01:11:38):
gravitas to actually pull some guys in that might not
have even looked that way to unc.

Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
You know that thought has crossed my mind, Michael, and
we'll see if if that comes to fruition. Appreciate your
thoughts tonight on both subjects, Mike and Modesto returns.

Speaker 11 (01:11:57):
How are you, Mike, I'm doing good, Bernie. Things for
the lining versus the portal. I think the portal needs
to be improved. They shouldn't be like free agency. I'd
still make the players sit out in the air if
they transferred. I'm less the coach leaves, then.

Speaker 12 (01:12:15):
I let them be eligible right away.

Speaker 11 (01:12:17):
That's how you fix that. The playoffs, God, we're finally here.
I hated it for so long, was crying for a
playoff for so long. They gave every excuse, the kids,
the school, everything, there's too much money in it. We're
finally here.

Speaker 6 (01:12:33):
And it's like sixteen teams too.

Speaker 11 (01:12:36):
But I'm not going to cry for teams like al
Obama who lost the thicke in Oklahoma. You don't deserve
crap if.

Speaker 12 (01:12:43):
You lose to Oklahoma.

Speaker 11 (01:12:45):
Secondly, on that, we're getting what we want. Conference champions
trumpet champions aren't getting screwed.

Speaker 7 (01:12:52):
Now that's the point.

Speaker 11 (01:12:54):
You want to be assured, Bernie, win your conference, then
you are in.

Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
That's always been my beast, and go ahead continue.

Speaker 3 (01:13:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:13:08):
Now, now, Belichick, you and I both know everybody knows
the goal is in the NFL. Whether he won't go
there more than it's a.

Speaker 12 (01:13:17):
Three year max.

Speaker 15 (01:13:18):
It could be one year or gig in a game.

Speaker 11 (01:13:20):
But I see Belichick is going to use this though,
because he's not.

Speaker 6 (01:13:25):
He doesn't want to go just to.

Speaker 11 (01:13:26):
Any NFL situation that opens up, as bad as he
wants too's record, he wants to go to a team
where the situation is he could win and have success.
So if that takes one season at North Carolina, two
seasons at North Carolina, he'll do it. He's gonna, he's gonna,
he's gonna play the field.

Speaker 12 (01:13:42):
Jenny win there, Yes he can.

Speaker 11 (01:13:44):
His alumnis only need to get the type of players
to win a week eight seed. He's not playing, he's
not coaching in the SEC. He's not coaching in the
victim'sc He can easily pull enough money by his name
and the money to win that conference like we talked about,
and get in that playoff every year. Okay, Bernie, thanks

(01:14:07):
for the time, buddy.

Speaker 2 (01:14:08):
All right, good, I'd like your definitive thoughts. No equivocating there.
Henry in Minneapolis, you're up next. Good evening.

Speaker 17 (01:14:15):
Hey, Bernie, thanks for taking my call. I kind of
agree with the last guy, I, you know, with the
first part, finally get into the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (01:14:25):
Letting the conference.

Speaker 17 (01:14:26):
Champions kind of, you know, do what they need to do,
but let the Cinderella stories kind of have a shot.
You know, look at the couple of years ago UCF
claiming that they're.

Speaker 3 (01:14:37):
In the National champions because they never lost a game.

Speaker 4 (01:14:40):
Let them prove it on the field, just like you said.

Speaker 17 (01:14:43):
But with Belichick, I agree with him because he played
this perfectly. He's not in the Big Ten, he's not
in the sec. He could get a huge payout, buy
him out of his contract if he wants to leave,
or if he does it right, do exactly what he
did with New England and be like.

Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
Hey, you're I know he's got those options. The question is,
what are we talking about two years from now, Belichick leaving,
Belichick still there? Did he win? Do he lose? I'm
just trying to figure out it's just going to work
because it's off to a weird start.

Speaker 17 (01:15:14):
It is, and I think he's got all the cards.

Speaker 5 (01:15:17):
He's got a couple in his.

Speaker 17 (01:15:18):
Sleeve because it goes perfectly for him. Why should he
leave it doesn't go well, Bill pay to buy him
out of his contract and he still gets fifty million.

Speaker 2 (01:15:30):
Every good stuff. Man. I want to get to all
the callers. We do this every week. Don't be a stranger.
Marvin Berkeley, you're up next.

Speaker 18 (01:15:37):
I think somebody who's authorized said, look, you better do
something fast. He went too fast. He could have taken
more time and he would have gotten a college, a
better college team or approaching message. To my opinion, he
just did this too fast, I think, And I wanted
to throw something at you, and you might think I'm crazy.
What about taking the next two wildcard teams, the teams

(01:15:58):
that didn't make the wildcards, the next two best NFL
teams having the one game playoffs, and whoever wins that
game plays the college cham.

Speaker 5 (01:16:05):
What do you think of that?

Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
Remember back in the day, it is before my time,
the college All Stars would play the old they stopped
doing well injuries. You're not gonna get it good. Yeah,
you're gonna never gonna. I will tell you right now.
I'll tell you this right down, and I gotta let
you run a second. But hang on. You can give

(01:16:28):
me the worst team in the NFL right now out
here with the Raiders Jacksonville. Put them on the field, Georgia.
They'll be they'll be laying twenty eight points and they'll cover.
It's really, oh my god, that much. All right, Mark,
thanks a lot, Buddy Bright, bring it to him, you
our last caller. We got about a minute go ahead.

Speaker 19 (01:16:44):
All of the int screw up the college football playoffs
like they have. I know everybody else loves them, and
everybody's talking about.

Speaker 4 (01:16:52):
How winning the conference guarantees you in.

Speaker 19 (01:16:56):
But if I'm organ right now, I'm winning my car
and then having to get stuck with probably the toughest
road going to the national titles and not get a
home game at all in.

Speaker 4 (01:17:10):
This I'd be pissed.

Speaker 19 (01:17:11):
So, yes, I'm glad that we have the more games,
but they still found a way to mess this time.

Speaker 2 (01:17:15):
They've got a tweak it. No, I listen, I talked
about it.

Speaker 14 (01:17:18):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:17:18):
If you're at the top of the show. You've got Oregon,
who's beaten three teams in this tournament. Ten States lost
to both the teams in this tournament that they played,
and yet Ten States ostensibly has an easier path to
the finals in Oregon does.

Speaker 19 (01:17:34):
Oh sure, And that's so I'm glad that we have it. Yes,
but Bill definitely needs a lot of restructuring, and ou't
think going to sixteen teams is going to help with that.

Speaker 4 (01:17:43):
It's going to be a different way.

Speaker 3 (01:17:46):
Seeing these teams to where it's more.

Speaker 19 (01:17:49):
If you get that number one seed you should have.

Speaker 2 (01:17:51):
Well, I think I think the flaw here, Bryce, and
thanks so much for the call, and I want you
to have more time for everybody. We want you to
keep calling in. Got to measure it as best we can.
The fatal flawt we've seen right now is all right,
you win your conference, you're guaranteed a first round by.
I think in retrospect, you win your conference, you're guaranteed in,

(01:18:12):
but maybe not a first round by. And maybe no
one should get a first round by. All right, and
these are things we'll tweak and maybe they should recede
after your first round playoff. Think about that. Look at
some of the seedings. Penn State wins, they get Boise,
whereas maybe they don't deserve that seed, and how Boise
beats them if that happens. But be that as it may.
All right, coming up, you're like movies up next, Breeze

(01:18:35):
three or Movie Round Table. Keep it lockst Bernie Frattle Show.

Speaker 1 (01:18:39):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:18:43):
Yep, that's right, you heard the man. Bernie Fraddle Show

(01:19:06):
know seventy shows talking movies Now and Patrick show, Colin Gottlieb,
So do we It's time Breeze three our movie roundtable, not.

Speaker 1 (01:19:17):
One, not two, but three. It's entertainment. It's good. It's
Breeze three.

Speaker 2 (01:19:28):
All right, take it away, Brie oh rainy.

Speaker 20 (01:19:31):
So I know, earlier this week it was announced that
Rock Party gifted ten Toyota trucks to his offensive linemen,
and Patrick Mahomes gifted his offensive linemen like some normal
tech compression socks or like socks, like those little boots
that go around your legs, little cowboy boots and a

(01:19:51):
Rolex so like, you know, Christmas cheer. And I was like, okay,
let's talk about like holidays just in general. So I
kind of was just thinking holiday is like all combined
and everybody celebrates all kinds of different, you know things
through the through these few months. So I started off
with Planes, Trains and Automobiles because that's a Thanksgiving movie,
and I feel like that's really like the only Thanksgiving movie.

(01:20:12):
I feel like Christmas has all movies and Thanksgiving. I
always think of like TV shows when it comes to Thanksgiving,
but like Planes, Trains and Automobiles is like a Thanksgiving movie, right,
Like like yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
John Candy and yeah, it was definitely a holiday movie.

Speaker 20 (01:20:28):
Yeah, definitely like holiday movie. So it was super cool
because I was reading that they kind of base the
characters off of like the actual actor, so like Steve
Martin is actually like like a neat freak, and John
Candy was obviously like super easy going and just kind
of out there, so that I thought that was pretty interesting.
And the original cut of the movie was like almost
four hours long, and so you know, it was only

(01:20:49):
an hour and a half, like you know in general.
So that was my first movie and then I then
I went with Christmas, and so I was between, Okay,
well I'm just gonna go I actually I went, It's
a Wonderful Life, just like very classic. And I feel
like I could probably watch the movie like seven times
in like December, and like I could love it like
every single time. So just a total classic. Obviously, Carrie

(01:21:14):
Grant was actually originally chosen for the movie, which I
didn't know, so I thought that was like a little
bit interesting. And then the movie was shot in nineteen
forty six in the summer, like during a heat wave,
so there's like a few scenes and I've always noticed this,
but he was like a little like he was sweating
a little bit, like when they shot him up close,
and so I just thought it was like, you know,

(01:21:34):
like the drama effect of like, oh my god, you're
super stressed out.

Speaker 21 (01:21:37):
No, like it was because it was.

Speaker 20 (01:21:38):
Like there was like an actual heat wave. And then
so a new type of snow was also made just
for the movie, because originally it was just like cornflakes
that were painted white, but every time somebody would like
step on them, it would crunch and that would kind
of kill like, you know obviously like the sound effects
and everything. Yea, So they created like foam mite, which

(01:22:00):
is what they use in chemicals and like fire extinguishers,
along with sugar and water. So they used six gallons
of that throughout the whole movie, So that I thought
was also a little bit of an interesting tidbit. And
then the last one, because I'm a girl, you know,
I have to go with my rom com kind of vibe.
I went with Bridget Jones Diary because you know that

(01:22:21):
takes place at the beginning of New Year's right, so
I'm hitting Thanksgiving, I'm hitting Christmas, and then I'm hitting
New Year's with renee Zelwigger coming up with all her
New Year's resolutions of what she wants to do, losing
weight as we all want to do at the beginning
of the year, keeping a journal, and then obviously you know,
falling in love like Colin Firth, and then you know

(01:22:42):
that whole thing with Hugh Grant also two great actors.
You know, she smoked her herbal cigarettes instead of like
regular cigarettes, which is a little bit interesting. And then
in the movie, you know, she was like, you know,
an editor and she had a picture of Jim Carey
on her desk because they were dating at the time,
in that time period in the early two thousands. So yeah,

(01:23:04):
those are my three movies holiday, a little bit of everything,
and then we'll go around and do our you know,
honorable mentions after but I'll go to mark.

Speaker 21 (01:23:11):
So one of my holiday movies that I picked is
the nineteen seventy Scrooge, which is another Charles Dickens tale,
And this is with that Albert Finnie and I can
remember it was a school trip and we all went
to the movie theaters and we watched this movie, which
was a you know, drama musical. So it was amazing

(01:23:35):
to see the songs and just the dancing, just the
whole thing and Albert Finnie. This is the Scrooge movie
that I always look forward to watching with Albert Finnie.
Now my next movie that I picked is the Jim
Carrey The Grinch, and it's I like that a lot.
And there's a particular scene in the movie where Jim

(01:23:57):
Carrey is doing an impression of of Ron Howard because
he's wearing the baseball cap and just the way he's
directing and talking to the dog. It's just, you know,
funny if you kind of know what's coming that he's
kind of making fun of how Ron Howard directs a movie,
was directing him in The Grinch. That was pretty fun
that I always look forward to that. And then my

(01:24:18):
third movie, once again, I pick It's a Wonderful Life.
I like it just because of, you know, the whole
message and just you know, Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed.
And it was a big success. Well, it wasn't a
big success when it first came out, but yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:24:33):
Frank Kapper, they couldn't get anybody to take that movie
for five years.

Speaker 21 (01:24:36):
And then once the it went into public domain, TV
station started playing it during the holidays, and then that's
when it kicked off to become something that everybody wants
to see during the holidays. And currently, you know, there
are people that have their podcasts and they have reaction
to movies, and this is one of the favorites that

(01:24:58):
people and the people in there twenties and thirties and
forties who haven't seen a bunch of movies. They sit
and watch and react to old movies, and this is
one of the movies that they react to because it's
just they haven't seen black and white movies. They don't
know Jimmy Stewart, they don't know Donna Reed, they don't
know Frank Kapper. So it's really popular for the reaction

(01:25:20):
people to react to this great movie. It's a wonderful life.
So those are my three. The Scrooge, the Grinch, and
It's a wonderful Life.

Speaker 2 (01:25:30):
Yeah, pretty clear, it's a wonderful life. It's very synonymous
with the holiday season. And you know, we've only showed
on TV during the holiday season. Obviously I stuck with
Christmas for me. Obviously, a movie that holds up is
Christmas Story Ralfey Wants His Red Rider Gun and that

(01:25:52):
movie came out, you know, many years ago, obviously, but
it tells a funny story, it's an entertaining story, and
it checks all the box for a nice, lighthearted, fun
Christmas movie. The second one, I will always watch it
whenever it just comes through. That's National Lampoon's christmasification. That
franchise just took off the chemistry between Chevy Chase and

(01:26:17):
Randy Quaid and he sweated out. He wants to get
that swimming pool for Chevy Chase for his Christmas bonus,
and he doesn't get it and goes ballistic, and I
don't know, it's just a it's a comedy. It's a
funny comedy, and it takes place over Christmas. And then
the third one for me was was Home Alone, and

(01:26:37):
this one we never Here's why Home Alone came out.
My kids were just barely old enough to understand the
concept of Santa Claus. So the Christmas that came out
Christmas Eve, my wife, we took the kids to see it,
and little did we know we'd be moving to Michigan

(01:26:57):
and that was the last you know, Christmas who we
had in California. And then look that franchise Home Alone too.
Blah blah blah. Well, Caullley Calkin blows up. We couldn't
have known it at the time. So those are my
three Christmas story National Lampoon's Cristification, and then Home Alone.

Speaker 21 (01:27:16):
Do you have any honorable mentions?

Speaker 20 (01:27:18):
I don't, Okay, I went Home Alone too with one
of mine. I love Home Alone two taking place in
New York. That's just like my favorite. And then I
went with Christmas Carol nineteen fifty one. I think that's
like I love that black and white. It's like very serious,
it's just you know, and then at the very end,
I think it just kind of ties in together and
just has that warm message. So those were my two

(01:27:41):
honorable mentions.

Speaker 21 (01:27:42):
I have three. One of them is so much later
in life, I found ELF with Will Ferrell and Bob
Newhart and James Kahan, so I finally caught up with
Elf to watch Will Ferrell be funny. And then my
second one is the Santa Claus with Tim Allen. I
like that one just the way it all happened is
just the whole story of what happens at Tim Allen.
It's pretty funny. And then it's one of those movies

(01:28:05):
that everybody argues about. I like lethal weapon when it
comes to a Christmas movie argument. But I like that
one with Danny Glover and Mel Gibson and then my
last one, I'm sorry, one more love actually for another
holiday movie. Just a big giant cast of British actors
and American actors. It's really funny.

Speaker 2 (01:28:23):
And just when.

Speaker 21 (01:28:24):
There's the version that they play on TV that they
can't show certain parts because of a particular couple within
the whole movie. But it's pretty funny to watch.

Speaker 2 (01:28:33):
Thee Yeah, it was released in July, but it takes
place during Christmas, right, right, So it's always an argument
is it a Christmas movie or not? But Bruce Willis
Danny Glover, that movie really got legs and Gary Busey, Yeah,
that was an intense movie.

Speaker 10 (01:28:52):
Yes, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:28:55):
The bad guy. He since passed the British guy. The
names of it anyway, it doesn't matter. Yeah, I agree
with a Christmas movie. It passes as a Christmas movie,
even though ironically it was released in July. All right,
excellent job everybody, good good research and good discussion. And
that is Breeze three movie round Table. By the way,

(01:29:16):
football fans, i'd be sure to tune into Fox Sports
Radio every Saturday morning and beginning at nine am Eastern
six am Pacific for Countdown to kickoppresented by BETMGM, Brian
no Rich Ornberger betting analyst Jared Smith will have you
covered three hours before college kickoffs every Saturday morning. Listen
to Countdown to kickofpersent up by BETMGM right here on

(01:29:36):
Fox Sports Radio and in the iHeartRadio app. Coming up,
I have some thoughts I want to share with you
on Nil. What does it mean? Is it bad for
college football? Is it good for college football? Is ruining
college football? But there was a major story it took
place right here in Las Vegas just three months ago,

(01:29:58):
having to do with their football team, which sort of
underscores the double edged sword that nil has come, that
nil has become, and how it's leaving a bad taste
in a lot of people's mouths. We'll chop that up.
Coming up, I'm Bernie Fraddle, who come be live from
Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, Tirac dot Com Studios. Keep
it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on

(01:30:19):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:30:22):
Listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:30:25):
Right back on the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Come to your live from me tarrac dot com studios
here in Las Vegas. We had another excellent midnight hour
or one of the topics. It was a college football
twelve teen playoff. But everything's kind of linked, so you
can't really talk about that without talking about the transfer

(01:30:46):
portal and nil. And just so you know, the transfer
portal is only a few years old. There's never been
a year like this in the transfer portal. In the
first seven days the portal opened for undergraduates, they were
already two thousand FBS players that entered the portal. Two thousand, Okay,
that could field forty rosters. By the way, last year,

(01:31:10):
the record was set last year two thousand and six
hundred and eleven. Now the portals open for another three weeks.
They're gonna blow that record out of the water. So
that's where we are, folks, and I'm not complaining. This
is the hand we're dealt. We'll see if this is
assistant that sinks under its own weight, or as long

(01:31:33):
as people keep watching college football, which I think we are,
and you can bet out it, which people will, I don't,
you know, it's just going to continue. What will happen ultimately,
Remember if you're a collective and you are spending money
on a player and you don't really have any idea
if he's going to pan out, or that player or

(01:31:56):
that roster is going to net you a championship or
whatever your ultimate goal is is. You know, there's no
you know, most rich people I know want return on
their investment. They'll put up with something for a while.
But let me get to my point. I told you
I wanted to. I wanted to, you know, get in
my soapbox a little bit about NIL, which conceptually a

(01:32:17):
few years ago, actually made a lot of sense. It's fair,
all right. NIL obviously stands for name, image and like this.
So the theory was, and obviously this is very idealistic
that you know, you're the quarterback you know State Tech
and everybody knows you, and you represent the university well,
and you know you own a car dealership and you

(01:32:38):
want to have him come out on a Saturday for
four hours and meet and greet and save a load
of people. And now you're a business who has decided
to hit your wagon to a reputable entity, a college
football player that's successful everybody likes. And for that, you

(01:32:59):
know what, what you pay what if you want five grand,
ten grand, whatever, That's not what this is anymore is
free agency. I'm gonna go to the highest bidder, right,
And I al used to refer to Kyle's athletes making
money through endorsement deals, personal business ventures, social media. It
became legal in twenty twenty one. The US Supreme Court

(01:33:25):
actually rejected the NCAA's appeal, and I trust lawsuits since then.
I know it's way way way over used cliche, but
it is the wild West. There's no guidance, there's no regulation,
there's need uniformity. Nick Saban said it best earlier Saturday
for Friday. He said, look, until they federalized this, you

(01:33:49):
really can't make any progress because these states all have
their own rules on how they decide to handle it. Right.
So this past September UNLV there were three and zero.
He end up having a pretty good year. Their quarterback,
Matt's Luca, who had transferred in from Holy Cross. He

(01:34:11):
up and quit after three games and sent a shock
through UNLV and sent a shock through the college football world.
And at that time it was an unprecedented decision, and
I raised concerned about how issues surrounding INNIL could disrupt
the sport. His claim was he'd been promised to one
hundred thousand dollars. He didn't get it. They offered him

(01:34:32):
something less, so he left. And this therein lies if
you look at the subtext to what I'm describing here,
therein lies the essence. Here's where I am right now,
Here's what I'm getting right now. But I can maybe

(01:34:53):
go somewhere else and get a better deal, and there's
nothing stopping me, and there's no guide rails. I can
do it in it for three and oh in the
middle of the season. I can do it if my
costumes in the playoffs. And all I know is every
year and il deals become more and more common and
more and more lucrative. But there's no legislation. There's no

(01:35:15):
legislation that guide these agreements between players and their institutions.
And I'm not into history onics where people write things like,
well it's changing fast. It could be in real danger.
College football is going nowhere. Stadiums are packed, there's still tradition,
there's pride, and people love to watch the games, people

(01:35:38):
love to bet on the games. You've heard me say
it a thousand times. We don't have royalty in this country,
our athletes and are entertainers. They are, in fact, our royalty,
and these college players are becoming household names. But now
you've got a situation where it's a gold rush and

(01:35:58):
athletes and institutions they all want to cash in, But
at what cost, at what disruption? And your breaking commitments.
And NCAA athletes have typically played for free. You can
say that although if you're getting a scholarship, you're not
playing for free. And I don't want to hear your
lame ass argument that my argument is lam ass because

(01:36:20):
it's not a college scholarship is a thing to behold.
For many fans, though amateurism, they also found it to
be an endearing aspect, and there was some sort of
this holistic you know, they're playing for pride and love
of the game and honor of the institution was noble.
All right, I'm gonna I'm not gonna go down that
road because you know, you'll people think I'm an idiot

(01:36:44):
because things change in sports all the time, and the
professionalism of college sports, I truly believe has been going
on for sixty years. It just went under the radar.
If you honestly don't think players have been paid before
before anybody could even spell an il, you're crazy. One

(01:37:07):
of the best thirty for thirties on ESPN is The
Pony Excess, the story of SMU and how they built
this team and got Eric Dickerson and Craig James and
a bunch of stud players and they ran rough shot
and they ended up, you know, paying dearly for it
with the death penalty. And I'm not saying school pride

(01:37:28):
doesn't exist anymore in college athletics, but I no longer
think it's the primary source of motivation. And I also
believe that college football is like religion in many parts
of the United States. And that's not hyperbolic. You've got
diehard fans who absolutely pledge their undying support to their team,
and they live under this illusion that the fans want

(01:37:54):
to win for them, but in reality that's not the case.
Every year, the best players in college football on and
roll from the school they're at and they go to
the NFL Draft and they get multi billion dollar contracts.
And the first thirty two picks in the NFL signed
contracts for last year combined six hundred and forty million

(01:38:14):
dollars now cools. Without saying most eligible players are not
concerned about their degree, the alumni network, they don't care
about the marching band. They want to go to the NFL. Unfortunately,
in Division one college football, ninety eight point four percent
of the players who play in college don't make it
to the NFL. But what does the NIL do. It

(01:38:35):
provides an opportunity for everyone else to earn their fair
share because college football is a business, and it's a
very lucrative business, and it's propagated on the backs of
student athletes who do generate money for the school, and
the money he's gotten so outrageous that they should not
have to play for free. But there's never been TV
contracts like this, There's never been advertising deals like this.

(01:39:00):
Even see at University of Michigan. Next year you watch,
you'll you'll see would they sell the rights to the
Big House and call it, you know, preparation ate stadium. Hell,
I don't know. Maybe they will, maybe they won't, But
it's nothing's off the table anymore because now that athletes
are profiting off their name, image and likeness, and it's
really not that anymore. It's just out and out free agency.

(01:39:22):
Let's face it, that money's got to come from somewhere,
and if you've been pulling up year after year and
you got nothing in return, well they got to find
a new place to get that money and the athletes
there's no shame in Matt's Luca's case, his agent claimed
he was promised to Hunter Grand in a verbal cook
agreement that motivated his decision to transfer from Holy Cross.

(01:39:45):
Do you want to be in the first place? The
team got off to a hot start. They won their
first three games. Sluca was playing well, but he decided
that he would make a money decision. He would utilize
the rest of his eligibility next season with a new
team for more money, and that situation stirred up a
lot of emotion on both sides of the debate. Some

(01:40:07):
people called Sluca quitter. They condemned him for banning his
teammates and coaches. Others claim this is an unacceptable behavior
from UNLV. It was a perfect example of how not
to navigate the nil landscape. But I don't think Sluca's
case is going to be when the history books are written,
an isolated case. We'll talk about this more over the

(01:40:30):
next month, because you're gonna hear more and more crazy stories.
But buckle up because it's gonna get worse for it
gets better. But do I think college football is in danger?
Hell no, how you kidd me? It's more popular than
ever and you know it all right. We covered all
on this show, including the football spelled futbol. It is

(01:40:50):
time Chris profets world soccer.

Speaker 22 (01:40:53):
The greatest goals thrilling finishes the international drum.

Speaker 5 (01:41:05):
Aim.

Speaker 1 (01:41:09):
It's all here in this report from the World of Soccer, Ernie.

Speaker 23 (01:41:13):
Happy holidays to you and yours out and to everyone
listening to the world of soccer out there. We're going
to talk a little bit about a one Boxing day
matchup I really have my eyes on. But first we
have to start with MLS as they kind of look
at the past year that has been for them, and
unfortunately for them, it's not great news. It's a little
bit of coal in the stockings and it's one that

(01:41:33):
I've long had my suspicions about and it turns out
to be right. I worried a lot when MLS penned
this deal with Apple for them to put together the
season pass on Apple TV, not part of Apple TV itself.
It's a multi hundred dollars add on. You have to
purchase ten years to two point five billion. It's certainly
made MLS flush with money, but has it really worked?

(01:41:55):
Has it been good for the game. Well, we kind
of got a sign that things weren't great. So this
past year all that was really on linear TV, cable
and network was a thirty four game schedule on Fox,
only two games from inter Miami with the Golden Child
Leonel Messi and you know, the playoffs and the MLS Cup. Unfortunately,

(01:42:16):
in spite of featuring two teams from the two biggest
markets in this country, LA Galaxy and Red Bull New York,
viewership for the MLS Cup was down hold on a
second forty seven percent. Over half your audience vanished on
a year to year. That's insane. That's enough to get

(01:42:37):
even Adam Silver up and alert and paying attention to
how bad things are going. You've lost almost half your audience.
And this isn't like something that is a passing fat.
Only a couple of years ago, this MLS Cup had
great numbers for Philadelphia Union and LAFC and kind of
lead ins for a lot of these played well with

(01:42:58):
other sports.

Speaker 1 (01:42:59):
And it's really the woes of.

Speaker 23 (01:43:02):
Hiding everything on streaming you take away people who are
curious about your sport and you tell them to pound
rocks it. Thirty four games is not enough to get
people to understand what some of these teams are, and
thankfully MLS seems to have noticed, and in spite of
being flush with money from Apple, they're going to try
to acknowledge some of their shortcomings and plan to make

(01:43:25):
some changes for twenty twenty five. Some of those changes
would be perhaps bringing back the idea that T mobile
subscribers will get free MLS season pass, just like T
Mobile subscribers right now get MLBtv for free each year.
That was something that used to be offered, but it
was taken away because Lionel Messi was such a money
maker they didn't want to hand that out for free. Meanwhile, also,

(01:43:47):
MLS for some reason, doesn't really have any standalone time
slots for big marquee matchup and it's in the report
they want to create that Apple wanted to consolidate all
match windows into a standard time of seven thirty pm
local to form habitual viewing. But really, without marquee matchups,
I'm not sure that's a great idea at the end

(01:44:08):
of the day, And you really need to highlight specific teams.

Speaker 1 (01:44:11):
You need to get back more on linear TV.

Speaker 23 (01:44:14):
It will make Apple mad, I'm sure, but you need
ways for people to access and get curious about this.
Maybe there are a lot of people internationally who bought
season pass because they want to watch Lenel Messi. But
you know what, you have to grow the game here
here in North America. You have to be a league
here here in North America. This is something I've always
been frustrated about in the streaming era, Bernie, is that

(01:44:35):
I fear that as we go behind our gated walls,
we will lose have people lose access and stop watching
because they just won't be curious about what they're not seeing.
And it seems like MLS is learning some of those pitfalls.
Now over to England, over to the UK and onto
Boxing Day. For those who don't know, Boxing Day is
part of the Christmas Time holidays in the United Kingdom.

(01:44:57):
It was once a holiday to donate gifts to those
in need, but it's basically become another shopping gay to
get after Christmas deals and it is a celebrated across
of the UK and former Commonwealth of Nations. But it's
also a day where we get plenty of soccer in
the Premier League. And there's quite a few matchups on

(01:45:18):
this day that are really interesting to watch. Manchester City
is playing Manchester City who has been in a lot
of trouble as of late, dropping the Manchester Derby and
awaiting and really falling behind in the standings. Chelsea playing
Everton in a very interesting matchup, and I really believe
that Chelsea might be the one team that can challenge

(01:45:39):
Liverpool for the Premiership this year, notwithstanding Arsenal or maybe
Nottingham Forest. Now I've got some reservations in Notmeningham Forest.
I'll explain that, but let's talk about Nottingham Forest. This
is a club that just got promoted a couple of
years ago and really they had clawed their way back
to the Premiership. They were one of the founding members
of the Premier League League and this is a club

(01:46:01):
with a lot of history. Founded in eighteen sixty five,
they are champions from the nineteen seventy eight First Division season,
the four runners to the Premier League, and they have
won the European Cup twice in the eighties, which is
now the AEFA Champions League. They were the toast of
Europe in the eighties, but the nineties really saw the

(01:46:24):
club fall on some really really hard times and they
returned to the Premier League in twenty twenty two by
winning playoffs and now right now they have had a
fantastic start to the year. They are right now coming
into this weekend on Friday, sitting in fourth place with
twenty eight points, two behind Arsenal, which means if they
the season ended today, they would be in the Champions League.

(01:46:46):
That's incredible and a lot of their success is coming
from their forward Chris Wood. Of the twenty one goals
scored in Premier League play this year by Nottingham Forest,
Chris Wood has ten of them. He has over half
of them. But that's also why I start to get
a little concerned about Nottingham Forrest.

Speaker 2 (01:47:05):
In the long term.

Speaker 23 (01:47:06):
That kind of imbalance kind of shows you that, hey,
you got to be careful. Maybe there might be an
injury down the road that really screws up this, or
maybe there's something that really kind of falls apart. Either way,
they are a fantastic story right now. I have my
reservations on them. On Boxing Day, they will be playing
Tottenham Hotspur, a good club, not a great club, but

(01:47:29):
that will be one hell of a matchup ten am
Easter and seven am Pacific. Something to really keep an
eye on. That will be the real treat of Boxing
Day as we continue to see if Nottingham can keep
pace with the giants of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea for
this Premier League season.

Speaker 1 (01:47:47):
That'll do it for us.

Speaker 23 (01:47:48):
Bernie, Happy holidays to everyone out there and we'll see
you soon for the new year. On the world of soccer.

Speaker 2 (01:47:55):
You know, it was funny. I living in Detroit, we
had great awareness of Boxing Day because Detroit's basically across
the street from Canada. Boxing Days the day after Christmas,
of course, December twenty sixth, and it's sort of like
the Canadian Christmas, I think. But there you have it.
Christ Prophet's World Soccer coming up, all right, We had
a listen. It was twenty seven to three or two

(01:48:17):
minutes to go. So you can't say Indiana Notre Dame
was a great game, not at all. But it was
a legitimate playoff game, and it felt like a playoff game,
and it felt different and felt significant and for me,
that was good enough. And as I said at the
top of the show. You know, we've had Super Bowls

(01:48:40):
that were blots, We've had NFL playoff games blots, college
football games blows. So le Mir mentioned that Indiana, I
can't really say they looked a part completely. Did they compete, absolutely,
But see, here's the thing college football, you got better
athletes on one side of the ball in every game.
The margin maybe narrow, but regardless, it's just the way

(01:49:02):
it shakes out. Notre Dame's got some NFL athletes in
Indiana dozen and give Kurt Signetti a hell of a
pat on the back for the job he did this year.
Heading into Friday's game, they lost one game at Ohio State,
and so they deserve to be there by the framework
and the criterion, which once these things are done, now

(01:49:22):
they deserve to be there. But it's one of four.
We got a triple header to look forward to, and
the first game here kicks off in about seven hours
and about seven and a half hours, so I want
to we're gonna talk about the triple header and give
you my thoughts and some matchup criteria shortly after the

(01:49:43):
show or podcasts will be going up. If you missed

You see how today's show is posted right after we

(01:50:04):
Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, Tirack dot Com Studios. Keep
it locked listen to the Bernie Fraddle Show Fox Sports Radio.
All right, we are wrapping it up on The Bernie
Frattle Show comedy live from the tarrac dot Com studios
here in Las Vegas. Before I go any further in
the remaining minutes of the show, I want to thank

(01:50:26):
my broadcast team back in Los Angeles, Mark and Brienna.
Excellent job. Appreciate all the hard work turning all to
the dials, keeping us glued together, handling the callers the segments.
Excellent job. Appreciate the teamwork very much. All right, we
have a triple header later today, and if I can

(01:50:49):
only watch one of the three games, it would probably
be Tennessee Ohio State, because I think it'll be the
most competitive. But I'd be lying if I'm mildly curious
as to how the Penn State game unfolds. I think
it's going to be a chalk day again Saturday. I
believe at least two of the three favorites will cover.

(01:51:12):
The favorite covered Friday Night. But this Penn State team look.
The best thing that ever happened to Penn State was
the twelve team playoff. This really gave them a chance.
Who there's not a dot in my mind if it
had been the same four team deal they've been on
the outside looking in again, they would not have made it.

(01:51:32):
They didn't beat Oregon, they didn't beat Ohio State. They
were't getting in. They weren't getting in a four team
made for TV tournament. But this twelve team deal gives
them a chance now to play postseason football. And knowing
that they took full advantage. They actually made it to
the Big Ten title game for the first time in
eight years and even earned the right to host a
playoff game. And that's good news for them because they

(01:51:54):
got a SMU draw whose average temperature in their games
this year has been two degrees. You probably already heard
that seventy two times. And it's going to be cold
in Happy Valley. Sub freezing temperatures could be in the twenties,
and I think that's always overrated. These are football players, man,

(01:52:15):
they know how to deal with Payton, all right. The
difference is going to be probably the company that Penn
State kept versus the company has MU kept. But listen,
you put two teams on the field. This is why
I like this twelve team format. It's going to be
decided on the field. And if Kevin Jennings, who was

(01:52:36):
an electric athlete, he's the quarterback and took over for
SMU and instead running back for Shard Smith, they're averaging,
you know, thirty eight points a game. Offense can travel.
Can they do it against Penn State and a little
bit more physical defense? You know Indiana, who I tip
a cap to. They didn't moved ballwell against Michigan. They

(01:52:58):
moved ballwell in Ohio State, and they didn't do it
against Notre Dame either. And the Nitty Lions have shown
they can put up points this year as long as
you're not playing you know, Michigan, Ohio State or Oregon
or somebody really good. I don't know if they'd beat Texas.
We're again it's going to be decided on the field.
You got a quarterback Drew Aller, who's probably a little underrated,

(01:53:19):
but he's had a fine year. He's coming back for
another year, but he's put up some good numbers. And
you've got Tyler Warren, who's a Mackie Award winning tight end.
You got the two, You've got the duel running back
of k Tron Allen and Nicholas Singleton and so James,
you know, Matt James Franklin has weapons. And Penn State's

(01:53:40):
defense has only given us sixteen points a game, right,
so it feels like it's a Penn State win, like
a twenty eight to twenty thirty to twenty game. Styles
make fights, and their styles here. SMU has got better
team speed than Penn State. Penn State's more of a
power team. The winner they get a trip to the
Fiesta Bowl to play at Boise State, which is no slouch.

(01:54:01):
All right, no slouch. You gotta play them on the
blue field too, And how did how the hell did
Penn State pull that off? Which is the biggest beef
of the I mean, they lose to Oregon, they lose
to Ohio State, they lose to Let's see, I said
all three year earlier and I checked that. I apologize
Penn State lost only two games Oregon and Ohio State.

(01:54:24):
Oregon won all three their games they played the tournament
Penn State, Ohiose State, and Boise. So there you have it.
That kicks off a little over seven hours from now,
and I'm sure James Franklin would love to just turn
this into a classic big ten game, fist fight and
phone booth, cold weather conditions. And you know, Penn State

(01:54:47):
got this hot offensive coordinator Andy koodle Nikki. We'll see
if he can dial it up on the matter. I
don't feel like Penn State's gonna have a lot of
trouble at SMU. They might for two or three quarters.
That's not a slat at SMU. I just have to
go with what I saw when they ran into a
physical defense against BYU, and I felt like there was
a little too big for them against Clemson. Let's see

(01:55:09):
prove me wrong. I think enoughset this weekend would be
good for the sport. Wasn't gonna happen in Indiana. I
don't know if it's gonna happen in Penn State, could
happen in Texas. They're up to fourteen now, very tough
spot for Clemson. Davilos. Swinney has nothing to lose. He's
got the lowest rated squad in the playoff, the twelve seed.
But for the Tigers to pull off this upset, it's

(01:55:31):
gonna have to be cap Klubnick. He's gonna have to
have a huge game on the ground and in the air.
You get your running back Phil Maffa. He's been banged
up for most of the season. He's supposed to play Saturday.
Texas will be able to open up running lanes. I believe,
even though Clemson has a very talented front, and I
think this is gonna be one of those situations where
you'll see a game Clemson team and you get to

(01:55:54):
about the halfway through the third quarter or the fourth
quarter and Texas flexes their muscles, have better athletes than
they have more of them. All Right, the stakes are high.
Texas has football experience, playoff experience. They got depth of quarterback,
they gotta shut down defense. There are only two losses.
We're both against Georgia, and by the way, Clemson lost
to Georgia two thirty four to three. We'll see Clemson's

(01:56:18):
got the DNA too. But I don't think I don't
think they have the chance against Texas. We'll see. I'm
on the air Saturday night at eleven pm. You can
call me out if I'm wrong. Tennessee, Ohio say, it's interesting,
it's the most intriguing. It's the toughest to predict. On paper,
Ohio State, you'd win this game based on talent and
homefield advantage. However, after watching them lose to Michigan, I'm

(01:56:40):
hearing the cloud is still hanging over Columbus and they're
gonna have to let it go. Dylan Samson gets going
for Tennessee. He's one of the best in the nation,
and the buck out the Buckeyes front seven is not
as great as it's been in the past. And if
they evolves have success with Sampson early, guess what now,
it opens it up for Nico. Maybe take some shots.

(01:57:03):
The volunteers, by the way, have an excellent defense as
good as Michigan's. This feels like a game Ohio State
twenty four to twenty. It's probably the most interesting first
round game. But if there is an upset of the four,
that's the one where it could happen. I'm not predicting it,
but that's the one work could happen anyway, Slice it.
I'll be back on these airwaves again Saturday night, eleven pm,

(01:57:24):
breaking down not only the college games, but the doubleheader
in the NFL and looking ahead to the NFL's late
and all the storylines that'll do it for the Bernie
Fraddles Show. Keep it locked up next to fellas. Fox
