Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is straight fire with Jason McIntyre.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
What is a fire, fam, It's mean a Jason McIntyre
straight fire or Tuesday, December thirty First, we'll get you
a quick podcast today and get out of your hair
so you can get after it tonight on New Year's Eve.
Ah Man, the sweet smell of success, Ladies and gentlemen.

(00:31):
If you're waking up this morning and you don't follow
me on social media and you didn't see me all
fired up last night, what a sweat, but it was
worth it. The Lions take down the Niners in a
pretty damn good game, A pretty exciting game for Week
seventeen that meant nothing. Thank you for competent offense. Lions
forty Sanfran thirty four and it was the first game

(00:54):
since nineteen thirty seven with ten touchdowns and zero punts.
That's thrilling football. We saw a lot of garbage Christmas Day.
There was bad games. Sunday was awful. Sunday Night football
was good, but Monday Night Football delivered, and doubly so
because Jamier Gibbs and mister Baits I needed to combine
twenty six points to win in fantasy. Gibbs got me

(01:15):
twenty six thanks to a forty yard touchdown run in
the fourth I don't know why he was still playing
in the fourth quarter, but I thank Dan Campbell for that.
Baits banged a fifty seven yard field goal. Good thing
I didn't have. Jake Moody huh, missed two field goals,
missed an extra point. I mean, goodness, gracious, I don't
they drafted that guy. I'm sorry he missed two extra points.
Moody a rough one. As they say, I don't know,

(01:40):
We're not gonna talk about the nineers. I need to
thank Dan Campbell for keeping his stars in. Took a
lot of criticism, as you're gonna play his guys. Lions
covered obviously, because that's all favorites do. Favorites went fifteen
and one in Week sixty Week seventeen. Unbelievable. Just tremendous
stuff from the Lion and the favorites and the good teams.

(02:01):
And I'm not gonna get into brock Purty. Okay, he
threw two bad picks, got it, you know you removed
the two passes to uh, but the defensive back, what's
his face? The guy who had the picks, I'm spacing
on it. But uh, Kirby Joseph, who had a fantastic year.
I thought Berty was excellent. I thought he was great

(02:22):
outside of the two picks. Now, the two picks were bad.
And it's an island game. So there's what people are
gonna do. Wake up today and bash Brock, Purty, Fine
go Off. I don't care. It doesn't bother me. I
don't think it significantly impacts his off season. He's gonna
get paid. We could talk many months to talk about
the Brock party contract situation. But the story right now
besides my fantasy win, and I only really care about

(02:44):
this because it's the it's the five hundred dollars buy
in league. Winner gets twenty five hundred, loser gets a thousand,
and it's basically paid for. I guess all of my
fantasy entries for like the last I don't know, five years,
and I've had some wins in there, so you know,
you got one of these big ones and it feels good.

(03:05):
And Gibbs was amazing. I'm surprised Campbell kept his guys in.
They played the entire game. Jared Goff was outstanding. They
had a hook and ladder touchdown on a third and twelve.
It was just spectacular. Ben Johnson, man, that guy's could
he now Is he gonna be as good of a
head coach when he's not just dialing up plays and

(03:25):
he's got to care about the special teams, and he's
got to care about the defense, and he's got to
know everything that's going on with his team, and he's
got to do more than just dial up plays. We
will see what happens with Ben Johnson, but tremendous stuff
from the Lions. I will be rooting for them actively
in the postseason. They will face the Vikings next week
in a number one seed. On the line game. Listen

(03:47):
to some of these numbers. So the Lions offense was
tremendous twenty three first downs, nine of fourteen third four
hundred and thirty nine yards of offense six point four
yards per play. But the crazy thing is the Niners
offense was actually better. Twenty nine first downs, four hundred
and seventy five yards, seven point nine yards per play.

(04:08):
That's spectacular. The forty nineers are five for five in
the red zone and did not win the game. Five
touchdowns in the red zone. That's what happens when you
missed two field goals and two extra points. That right,
there's a game. And of course the party interceptions did
not help anyways, Lions win. I know you guys are
all excited for the college football picks the playoffs. Here
we get midweek football that matters. Oh it's so great.

(04:30):
I'm just going to quickly get this out of the way.
I'm sure someone's gonna beat me to the punch. I'm
not you know, I'm not in like the breaking news business,
but it bears mentioning that right now there is a
big time bubbling story in college football and the potential
transfer portal and the story i'm hearing, okay, is Notre Dame.

(04:57):
The last two years has gone to the portal for
quarter Sam Hartman and Riley Leonard both have been, you know,
really good. With the Irish. They have a guy, this
kid Carr, who's very good. He's on the up and up,
but he's coming off like an injury. Something's going on.
He's just still not one hundred percent. And there is

(05:18):
talk that, you know what, he is, the future he's
gonna have, he's gonna be a two year starter at least.
But is there a world where we go and bring
in a quarterback next year, a grad transfer, a transfer
portal guy, somebody who is ready and ready to take
us to the Promised Land. And I do wonder if

(05:40):
the rumors about Quinn viewers to Notre Dame come to
fruition Quewers, You guys know, I've been a big fan
of his work. I think he's a NFL draft pick.
I don't think he's played like a first round pick
this year. And I wonder when he goes and gets
that NFL evaluation, what round are you likely to go?
If he doesn't here? First? Second, third, does Quinn? You

(06:05):
weers saying, hmm, you know what, Maybe I'll just go
back to school for another year.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Now.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Notre Dame apparently will face a challenge for yours. He
will be leaving Texas one thousand percent. This is his
final year at Texas. That's obvious, and I think that's
why Sark has been a little dicey with is this
Queen yours final game? Blah blah blah. Arch Manning is
the few The arch Manning will be the starter at
Texas next year. That's a thousand percent. That's a done deal, folks,

(06:31):
that he arch Manning will be the starter The question
is does Queen Yours go NFL or college? And I
have heard Notre Dame is his first choice. I've heard
another school is interested in getting in on the Queen
Yours sweepstakes, and that school is Oregon. Now what's interesting
is both of those are in the playoff. Queen Youwers

(06:52):
obviously did not play great against Georgia. Notre Dame faces Georgia.
There could be world I mean, I guess it's not
out of the RMA possibility where Notre Dame faces Texas
for the natty that's in play now. I don't think
that'll happen, but it could. What do we know? Who

(07:12):
knows anything's possible? How State Oregon SMU they got knocked
out by Penn State, not SMU. Obviously, Penn State knocked
out SMU. Penn State's got the easiest path that they
take down Boise. So a lot can happen, And that's
why I'm excited about the College Football Playoff. But dis
quinn Ewers thing would be massive. Now would he lead
Texas to the national championship and then transfer? I don't

(07:34):
think to I think at that point you go NFL,
You've got nothing left to prove in college except bolster
your draft stock, right, But if you don't win the
national championship and you're obviously not the starter next year.
Remember Ohio State with the kid McCord last year was
he was good, but he did not get it done

(07:54):
in the biggest spot against Michigan, and they said, we
can't guarantee you to start a job next year, and
he transferred to Syracuse. Actually led the country in passing,
which is kind of an underplayed story. Pretty impressive stuff
from the court. You know, a lot of guys may
not bounce back from that. It's a high profile Thank
you for your service. We'll see you later. You know,
I'm very curious to see how yours performs against Arizona

(08:16):
State and beyond. It is going to be fascinating. I
haven't seen this out there. I didn't hear it from
I didn't hear from anybody on social media. This is
from people. I am on the endswit, shall we say
at Notre Dame. So just file it away, let's see
what happens, and when you see it online later, you know,
just remember, oh that's my guy, straight fire. J mack All. Right,

(08:38):
let's get the picks for the college football playoff.

(09:01):
Here's your best bat.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
All right, let's pivot to what everybody's here for the
college football playoff And oh, by the way, a bonus
bowlpick for you today. I am on Alabama. Now this
is get the numbers getting a little wild. I got
it at thirteen. It is now I'm seeing fifteen. Here's
the thing, I don't hate it at fifteen. I'm not

(09:25):
asking you to lay the lumber. I do not recommend that.
It is called the Relyaquest Bowl. It starts early this morning,
so you would want to jump on it. Michigan's best
players have opted out the tight end, the cornerback like
everybody's sitting it out. And do not underestimate Kaylin de

(09:46):
Boor doing this for the boosters for the nil collective.
Putting one on Michigan here also payback for the loss
in the playoff last year. Michigan obviously looking to next
season when they should bounce back and be, you know,
a consensus top twenty team most of the year, maybe higher.

(10:06):
We'll see what how the quarterback looks. But without a doubt,
this is Alabama flexing here.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Now.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
I don't know that Jalen Milroe has much to prove.
I don't even know if he's actually playing. But Jalen Milroe,
let me let me quickly look this up. Jalen Milroe, Yeah,
he's gonna He's gonna play and expect to play the
full game. According to Debor and Company, Deboor kind of
ended the season not looking great, and I know people

(10:35):
were out on him. Remember the Alabama message boards, Remember
some of the silly stuff that was on there about
how Alabama fans were unhappy they were letting the players
dance to music at practice and it was too wasn't
as structured as saban. This one smells like an absolute
beat down. Would not shock me if this were forty
nine to thirteen, forty nine to ten, some obscene number.

(10:57):
And Noel's got some stuff to prove here. Again, it's
the guy. I believe. If Anthony Richardson can go top five,
Jill and Milroe will certainly be a first round quarterback.
I don't think he's great by any stretch. I don't
think he's ready. I didn't think Anthony Richardson was ready.
But Milroe can turn it up, and I do believe
we see some flashes here of oh boy, this is

(11:18):
the Alabama team we could see next year with a
new quarterback, of course, because Milroe's going to the NFL,
but I'm on Alabama. Fifteen's a big number. You know,
we'll see some big numbers in the NFL this week.
But I without question really like the tide here. I
haven't really hammered anything else. I'm not sure about Brian
Kelly and LSU. They're getting points. I would consider LSU,

(11:44):
but nothing there. So let's get to the playoff games.
Penn State laying eleven against Boise. I talked about it
last week, talked about it when this game first came out.
I do like poise now. The longer you you know
usually and I'm sure I've talked about this before. First reaction,
when the lines come out the sides, that's usually your
best bet. Then you start reading more and you hearing

(12:06):
outside noise, you see people tweeting at you. You're in
the car. You hear a radio show, you football the TV.
You hear all their boys is gonna get wrecked, and
you start to start to question yourself. And I have
slowly got to the point where I'm like, oh, I
don't know about Bois. And the big knock from everybody
who closely follows college football is they haven't played anybody.

(12:29):
And the worst part is down the stretch they looked
really bad and could not cover the spread against the
Wyomings of the world, Nevada, you and l they just
I mean, the quarterback's throwing for a like a buck
seventy five in games that matter down the stretch. Now,

(12:51):
I know a lot of it is, hey, Ashton Genty
is cooking, and that's fine, but the step up in
class to Penn State here is seismic. Now here's the
thing you could argue, Hey man, listen, everybody UNLV saw
these guys once. So that's one of the reasons that
the bowl game was close. People started to defend Genty differently.

(13:12):
It's like San Jose State held him to buck fifty nine.
He didn't go nuts in the first UNLV meeting. He
did in the second. San Diego State did a decent
job against him. But again, some of these games were blowouts.
And I don't know what to make of Boising So
when you've got that kind of weird situation, like how
do you do? You do? You just take it with
Penn State, which, by the way, all we heard all season, Ah,

(13:35):
you know, Penn State. They're just not that good. They're overrated.
They can't beat anybody, And really, I mean didn't beat
anybody all season that was that good. I mean Ohio State.
That game was close at home. They lost it the
USC game. Do you count that as a good win?
It was on the road. They needed to come back
and they did. I don't know that Penn State's that good.

(14:00):
I mean again, I'm looking at the schedule, guys. Here
are their ranked opponents. They beat Illinois twenty one to
seven at home. They lost to Oregon in the Big
Ten championship game. They lost to Ahose State at home.
But this is where I keep coming back to for
the Boise State handingcap and why I took Boise State

(14:22):
plus the points and on the money line. The last
time Boise State played a football game was Friday, December sixth.
From that moment, now I know you only get a
certain amount of practices. But from that moment they have
had twenty five games or twenty five days. I'm sorry,
before the Penn State game December sixth to December thirty first,

(14:46):
you got three weeks to install stuff. Now you could say, hey,
well they didn't know who they were gonna play. Okay, Well,
I mean you could you could take an educated guest
and say, hey, Penn State's playing at home against SMU,
They're a big favorite, they're gonna win, and now you've
got three weeks to cook up stuff for Penn State. Now,
I did some digging around on the Boise coach. He's

(15:07):
a young guy, thirty six, Spencer Danielson, not really familiar
with his work, first time head coach. You know, it
kind of lucks into Ashton Gent and I okay, you
know last year was the introrom. He went three in morning,
He was fine. I something tells me like, I don't
want to apply myself too much to this, but you

(15:28):
guys know, I coached my kids in sports, whether it's soccer,
basketball and obviously very different than football. But when you
approach these games, like, for instance, the youth basketball season
starts this week, and I have already talked to the
assistant coach. My buddy, we've known each other for a while. Hey, hey,
we're gonna open in this right, we're gonna pivot to this.

(15:51):
We're gonna keep giving him different looks. And when we
play this team in the playoffs, and well, you know,
we probably won the last two championships. We're not gonna
run the same stuff. Hell, the next week, we're not
gonna run the same stuff. Coaches are gonna be ready, Hey,
we know what a two three zone is. Hey, here's
what we're gonna run against mana man. So we're not
gonna hit him with that stuff. You've got to be changing,

(16:12):
So apply it to Boise State Penn State. Do you
think Boise is gonna come out in the same defense
they played against I don't know, San Diego State. I mean,
do you think they're gonna run the same defense that
they ran against Utah State against Penn State. That would
be foolish, It would just be stupid, and you're gonna
get torn apart. So you've got to have different stuff.
And given three weeks to cook up a game plan,

(16:34):
you're telling me they won't have some new wrinkles. And
that's a reason I kind of like the dogs here.
Now you could apply that to the first round and say,
well they had two weeks. Well that's a different story. Okay,
why because of the home field factor and the home
team's you know rolled. So this neutral site game, now,

(16:55):
Boise Penn State, it looks like this is not that
tough of a ticket. I think boys, he can hang now.
Obviously Penn State would be wise to say, hey, we're
gonna stack the box, give me seven in the box,
give me eight in the box. Ashton GENTI can hey, hey,
won't be the first eight man box he's seen all
season and the triple dog. Dare the Boise State quarterback
to beat you over the top. I don't think that's

(17:17):
how you want to go out, But you know, SMU
had a couple of high leverage plays and the quarterback
made mistakes. Anyways, I took the points. I'll be rooting.
Bois nothing against Penn State. My brother has a couple
of his friend's kids go there or will be going there.
And you know Pennsylvania. He lives in PA and Penn

(17:39):
State's huge, and I get it. You could easily like
that team I'm on bois, So that is the game
tonight on we'll go in order on January first, the
early game Texas at Arizona State. Interesting over the weekend,
so Arizona State was thirteen and a half, it got
bet down to eleven and a half. Some of these

(18:00):
sharp groups hitting Arizona State, and this is another one
of those. Well, I don't know how good is Arizona State.
They were picked to finished dead last, okay in their conference,
dead last, and they end up winning it, and it's like, well,

(18:21):
was the media way off? Did they overachieve? I don't know.
They lost to Texas Tech and they lost to Cincinnati.
How much do you take away from those games? What
do you read into that? With Arizona State and their
great coach Dillingham and they're running back who is I mean,
he's scatabo Scataboo. That guy's awesome. I was reading about
this guy. Dude. He was one of these high school

(18:43):
players that was just unbelievable. But nobody knew what to
do with him, so he had no D one. Look,
so he starts D three, he absolutely dominates and then
ultimately gets to Sacramento State and he goes there and
the story I think CBS or the Athletic one of
these his like first practice, okay, and he was coming

(19:05):
down from D three secondment of State and he was
like untackleable, Like everybody was like who is this guy?
And he was instantly their best player by a mile.
And then he levels up again to Arizona State, And
I mean this guy he had two sixty two against
Mississippi State, Okay, that's an SEC team, two hundred sixty
two yards on the ground. He had a buck eighty
two against Kansas, one fifty eight against Utah. He is

(19:29):
a load to bring down. I don't even have an
NFL comp for him. He's not the guy on San
Fran because this dude can move. He is unbelievable. One
hundred and seventy seven against Arizona, won seventy against Iowa
State in the Big twelve championship game. But again, like
Texas has, I think Texas probably has more defensive uh

(19:50):
I saw a stat that they could have six guys
drafted in the top two rounds of the draft. Arizona State,
I don't know that they have one.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
FO Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 2 (20:11):
I like Scatibo a lot. I don't know how high
he's gonna go. But this is another one, like, so,
what's the money coming in? What's everybody betting? Here's another one, folks.
Last game Arizona State played was December seventh. Kenny Dillingham
is one of the better young coaches in the country.
I like this guy a lot. And you look at
their last game Saturday, December seventh to January first, we're

(20:33):
looking at twenty four days in between games for Arizona State,
and you know they were not prepping to face Clemson.
They were ready for Texas. They should have a lot
of interesting stuff cooked up. I think their quarterback is
actually better than Boise's. But I think Boisese skill position
guys probably a slight edge over Arizona States guys. The

(20:54):
problem is Texas is an absolute truck this offensive and
they're getting the kid bond back. They've got dudes everywhere,
and I don't know that as you can get the stops,
but can as you hang And my guess would be yes, probably,
and we will see just how good Arizona State's skill

(21:16):
position guys are, because they're gonna they're gonna need at
least twenty eight to cover here, maybe thirty. I am
seeing the total at fifty one. Yeah, Arizona State, if
they're gonna cover, they're gonna need at least maybe twenty
is too have. Maybe twenty one's is gonna get you
to cover. But I think it's in place. Small Arizona

(21:38):
State piece for me. I think Texas wins, and then
it's the big game, the Rose Bowl, which will just
be an outstanding gay because it's the Rose Ball. It's
a great setting. A lot to like about the potential
for a great game here. It's a rematcher. Is a
little a touch of Oregon money coming in Oregon's plus two?

(21:58):
I think this is just about what the line was
in the first meeting in Austin. I'm on Ohio State here,
but I have to say I've looked around, guys. I
haven't seen one person pick the one non Oregon Duck
grad or fan picked the Ducks here. Everybody on Ohio State,
it almost feels like they're disrespecting the undefeated. Dylan Gabriel

(22:20):
Ducks and listen Oregon man against that Penn State defense.
They shredded them in the Big Ten title game, hot
knife through butter. The wide receivers are good. I don't
know that Ohio State has an edge at all, except
their wide receivers are good. I would look at I
do kind of like the under, not in this one.
I like the under in Notre Dame Georgia, and I

(22:42):
would I would consider the over at the Rose Bowl.
Ohio State has not been really tested in a while.
The Michigan game, I'm gonna I'm gonna chuck that up
to just weirdness. Is that okay? Can I do that?
Is that a loud, heated rivalry. They did not play
game clearly. You wonder if Will Howard was potentially concussed

(23:05):
on that early hit. He did not throw the ball
well at all. It's just nothing. Nothing worked out for
Ohio State. Michigan is not a great team, but that
rivalry is massive. I think people overreacted to that, and
that's why they were on Tennessee. Is the opposite true Now,
everybody's overreacting to Ohio State burying Tennessee, and everybody's on

(23:27):
Ohio State. Whereas Oregon, which hasn't played in a while,
has a great coach, Dan Lanning, probably the best coach
in the playoff. No disrespect to anyone else out there,
you know, I love me some Freeman. And obviously Georgia's
got a coach who's won a little bit, James Franklin,
a winner just when he except when he faces top
five teams. And I just it just it's gonna be
a great game. It wouldn't hurt you and not have

(23:49):
money on this, but I I lean Ohio State. I
guess I would go moneyline. I'm seeing minus one twenty three.

Speaker 1 (23:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
Final game is Notre Dame Georgia, and I a slight
edge to Notre Dame. I know, Jason, what are you doing?
You're on three dogs? Come on? The favorites were barking.
Favorites have been owning, and I'm talking owning NFL lately.
I saw a stat favorites were fourteen and one on

(24:17):
Week seventeen. Prior to that Lions Niners thriller, and I
like the under in the Notre Dame Georgia game. I
do think this is two defenses that probably rule the
roost here. I don't know what to make of Gunner Stockton.
I've been reading about him. The positive from Georgia. From

(24:40):
the Georgia perspective is he's a coach's kid. He eats,
he eats, sleeps, breathes football. He's been with the program
for this is his third year. He's sat behind Stetson
Bennett for a year, watched him win a championship, sat
behind Carson Beck for two and now he's playing Beck.
Of course, had the surgery. He's off to the NFL.
So this will be the Gunner Stockton show. Does he

(25:04):
scare you throwing the football? I don't know the answer
to that. I'll be honest, guys, I haven't seen anything.
There's really not enough tape. I think there were eighty
six plays that he's run, either this season or in
his college football career. One of those two. There's just
not a lot here now. As a high school player,
I mean, the guy threw for thirteen thousand yards in

(25:24):
high school and as a senior fifty five touchdowns, one pick.
Like obviously he landed at Georgia. He's got something right.
Kenny beat Notre Dame in a tough spot in New Orleans.
This to me is an amazing nightcap I am a
little nervous for my Irish. I will go ahead and

(25:45):
lean Notre Dame simply because I don't know what I'm
getting with Stockton, which could be a huge win. Right
Stockton is a mystery. Nobody knows what to expect. He
cooks up some stuff, a couple of trick plays, does
some stuff with his legs. I just think Notre Dame,
this one's easy. We stopped the run, we'll go. I
guess you could go man or try some tricky zone

(26:06):
on the back end, but I don't think you've got
to worry about Stockton throwing the ball down the field.
And Georgia's had some mysterious game plans where they fell
behind badly in Alabama. If you remember the SEC title
game last year, it was just what is Georgia doing?
But with a lot of time to prepare here Notre
Dame coming off the Indiana game, and Notre Dame showed

(26:27):
nothing last week, you can see Georgia having a good one.
If anything, I would tease I don't know that I
would tease Notre Dame. Up. I would, and this doesn't
really do much, but I would tease Georgia and I
would tease Oregon up. Okay, Oregon's doesn't feel like a
team to me that's gonna get blown out. Way too

(26:47):
many weapons, too aggressive of a quarterback, and I don't
think Notre Dame has the capability to run away and
hide from Georgia. They just aren't an explosive offense. Riley
Leonard's not gonna want to make the mistake. I think
it's gonna be a heavy Notre Dame ground game. It's
it's the lowest total of the four playoff games at
forty six. So if you're in two teases and again

(27:09):
you're supposed to go through the seven and the three.
That's obvious, but you could make a case. You tease
Georgia up to up to getting five, you tease Oregon
up to eight, and I think that two team teaser
probably cashes for you. Again, Notre Dame is not a
team capable of blowing out great teams, and Oregon's gonna

(27:31):
fight till the end in Ohio State, you know, like,
are they gonna are they gonna roast the Ducks? I
don't see that, but they certainly have the weapons. Zeromia
Smith outside. So anyways, I'm fired up for these games.
We will be back on Friday. I guess to preview
Week eighteen in the NFL. Although there's not much happening
a handful of games. The Saturday doubleheader looks pretty good.
Although if the Ravens, who are eighteen point favorites, if

(27:54):
they win against Cleveland and capture the division, Pittsburgh has
nothing to play for. And maybe pitt s burgs like, hey,
let's rest our guys, and uh, let's get what's his face,
Let's get Joe Burrow the wind, you know, but Tomin
doesn't seem like the kind of guy who rests his dudes. Anyways,
should be a good one to talk to you Friday. Everybody,
have a safe, happy New Year. See then,
