Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio. All right, who
is the MVP? Can you please tell me who's the
MVP that's coming right up? Good morning, everybody. This is
Fox Football Sunday of Fox Sports Radio. He's Bucky Brooks.
I'm Andy Furman, and we are broadcasting live from the
ti iraq dot com studios. Ti iraq dot com. We'll
(00:21):
help you get there and a matched selection fans, free shipping,
free road as a protection, and and he said, over
ten thousand recommended installers ti rack dot com the way
tire buying should be, and away we go. You know,
the National Football League, I mean there's a couple of
geniuses that really worked. I know, Roger Connell gets a
lot of heat, you know for what he does and
things like that. That's okay, but you know what they
(00:42):
have done right now with having divisional games at the
end of the schedule and making people like waiting and
biting their nails. Last night you had the Cincinnati Bengals
with they must win and now it's a waiting game.
You just have to see what the Miami Dolphins do
today Sunday and also the Denver Broncos. So they have
forced people to watch an entire week in the football genius.
(01:04):
Maybe I don't know, maybe I'll give them too much credit,
but it just worked out that way. And that game
last night was unbelievable with the Cincinnati Bengals because really
and truly did downside the Achilles heel of that Bengals
team all year long was defense. What got it done
last night. Trey Hendrickson on the defensive side of the ball,
three and a half sacks. He's going to lead the
NFL in sacks this year. It's an amazing situation. You
(01:26):
just don't know what they're gonna get. And the Steelers,
what has happened. They've gone down the croper big time.
They've lost four straight and Russell Wilson obviously looked at
as the savior of the Steelers right now. Not good,
not good whatsoever. Dismal if you want to put a
word to it, dismal, that's basically what he does. It's
amazing what they've done because last time they played early
(01:47):
this year, back on the first of December, the Bengals
lost to the Steelers in Cincinnati. Bengals gave up five
hundred and twenty yards and a forty four to thirty
eight loss last night. The Steelers finished with get this,
one hundred and ninety three total yards and there were
four to twelve on third down convergence. But the key,
obviously I talk about who's the MVP. MVP this year
(02:08):
has been sent to around Lamar Jackson, who was great
yesterday as Baltimore one, Sekwuon Barkley, who won't even be
playing today and could be breaking the single season record
for rushing but decided it's best to heat not play
for the Philadelphia Eagles and rest for the playoffs. And
Josh Allen, the quarterback of the Buffalo Bills, but he
was great. I mean, certainly, Joe Burrow last night was great.
(02:29):
Joe Burrow finished just shy, get this, just shy of
five thousand passing yards this year, and basically that was
the story. Thirty seven for forty five passed for two
seventy seven, a touchdown at one interception. I want to
hear from Joe. I want to hear from Joe cool.
Can we hear from Joe Burrow after the game last night?
Speaker 2 (02:48):
I know that you know forgetting we can make some
noise with the players and coaches that we have in
this building, and we just got to hope for some
how tomorrow and I'll sit back and watch him amazing.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Really, that's what they gotta do. I mean, think about it. Now,
here's the question I have. You know, the Bengals right
now are nine and eight, which is an amazing situation.
They were four and eight several weeks ago. They've won
five straight games, nine and eight, and there's still a
shot that they won't get into the playoffs because you know,
they're not controlling their own destiny. They gotta look for
Miami to lose, has mentioned, and the Denver Broncos to
(03:22):
lose today if they don't make the playoffs. Think about this. Now,
you're a GM, you're an owner, you're a personal guy.
You're a decision maker of the Cincinnati Bengals. Should they
not make the playoffs, who do you blame? Think about that?
Who do you blame? I mean, tomorrow's black Monday, and
I hate to use that term, but it is as
today that coaches get fired in the National Football League.
(03:42):
It's black Monday tomorrow. Do you fire the coaching staff?
Do you fire the head coach of Zach Taylor? Is
his job in jeopardy? If the Bengals don't make the playoffs,
Who would you blame? Joe Burrow? It looks like an MVP.
Trey Hendrickson leads the league in sacks. Okay. You got
a guy, Jamar Chase who's gonna win a triple crown
with touchdown receptions, yards, receptions and passes. Okay, I mean
(04:05):
they lead the league in triple crown, something which is
unheard of. The guys that are on the Pro Bowl.
Three guys that are Pro Bowlers. So you got great
players on this team. You got guys that could have
gone far. This is a team that lost an opening
day to the woeful New England Patriots. Okay, so now
should they not make the playoffs, who's to blame? I'd
(04:25):
like to know that who was to blame. I don't
understand how a team like that cannot make the playoffs.
I mean, they were so they just outclassed. They certainly
outclassed the Pittsburgh Steelers last night. It's unbelievable. They controlled
the game. They were winning nineteen to seven several minutes
coming into the fourth quarter. Then it was a muff punt.
There you go, muff punt. There's always that muff situation.
(04:46):
The mouth punt turned into a little bit of a
momentum for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and obviously the Steelers came back.
It was nineteen seven that came back to final score
nineteen seventeen. But it was the defense. It's it's hard
to believe, but it was the defense that close the
door on the Steelers come back after Trey Hendrickson basically,
as I mentioned at three and alf sacks on the night,
(05:06):
he sacked Russell Wilson on the Steelers' final drive. Wilson
then had a deep pass intended for wide open George
Pickens the next play. Cincinnati turned Pittsburgh's offense over on
downs and the closing seconds of the game and being
but a bang, the game is over. They win, all right,
That's basically it. And there's gotta be some concerns right
now as the Steelers are basically entering the playoffs. I mean,
(05:27):
what's happening with the Steelers, what has happened? What's next?
The Bengals obviously is mentioned nine and eight, and they
hope and pray that both Denver and Miami lose today
Sunday that would give Cincinnati the final wildcard spot. In
the AFC playoff picture. The Steelers ten and seven right now,
ten and seven. They were ten and three a month ago.
Ten and seven. They have to obviously lift their wounds
(05:50):
following this fourth straight loss ahead of a matchup on
Super wild Card weekend, and they're gonna play either AFC
North champion Baltimore or the Houston Texas. It's unbelievable. Okay,
it's it's said. It really is what's happening with the
Pittsburgh Steelers. But you know, I don't think there's a
lot of people rooting for the Steelers. I think, I think,
to some extent, and maybe I'm crazy for saying this,
(06:13):
I think the Cincinnati Bengals are somewhat America's team. I
think they want to see Joe Burrow in the playoffs.
They want to see him play, and you know, they're
sort of ruining for them. But there are teams in
the National Football League that do not want to see
or play the CINCINNTI Bengals. Say they're a threat, they
really are. They are certainly a threat, and we'll see
what happens. Right now, it's the waiting game for them.
(06:33):
Now we move over to that first game yesterday. The
Baltimore Ravens now are the AFC North champions, bigger to
enter the playoffs as the number three seed in the conference. Okay,
and you talk about Lamar Jackson, he was outstanding thirty
five to ten over the Browns. A game was a
twenty two point I guess favorite points spread, and basically
(06:54):
they cover that. The division title comes to Baltimore with
that thirty five to ten win over the Browns yesterday
at home Baltimore to wrap up the regular season. The
loss drops Cleveland to three and fourteen to end the season.
And look, I'm not here at the point fingers. Well,
maybe i am, Okay, maybe I am. All I know
is my Pardner Bucket Brooks. And I respect him. I
respect the fact that he played in the National Football League.
(07:16):
I respect his football knowledge. He's a writer, he's a coach,
he's a mentor, he's a scout. Okay. But the thing is,
he did say Cleveland would be a Super Bowl contender,
and I don't know what happened. I guess is the
Deshaun Watson situation that blew up. Didn't have much of
a quarterback situation there, But geez, I mean three and fourteen.
(07:37):
Black Monday's coming tomorrow. We'll see what happens to their
coaching staff, but the Ravens will slow to jump up
into the lead. The offense took a few drives to
get going, but look doing Cleveland's second offensive position of
the night. Rookie cornerback Nate Wiggins. He picked up brown
starting quarterback Bailey zappy first career interception. He returned that
for twenty six yards for a touchdown. From there, it
(07:58):
was Lamar Jackson touchdown drive in the opening minutes of
the second quarter to build up a two score lead
at the break. Ravens are dangerous, no doubt about that.
Ravens are dangerous that I'd love to hear if we can,
if we can, Shay, Shay, can we hear a little
bit of Lamar Jackson maybe after the game yesterday. I'm
a big Lamar Jackson fan because right now I would
have to say he's the front runner for that MVP
(08:19):
award because obviously it's a quarterback of Whatso if you
got Lamar, I'd love to hear from if.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
You can, Yeah, give me like a second here, No, no, look.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
I don't put pressure on anybody.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
You know.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
I mean, no, no, no, this is anything for you.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Thank you, thank you very much. All right, Okay, I'll
give you a little bit of about Lamar right now
before you find him. Okay, he finished last night completing
sixteen to thirty two two hundred and seventeen yards, two touchdowns.
He rushed for sixty three yards, and thanks to those stats,
get this, Lamar Jackson became the first This is unbelievable, really,
(08:54):
the first quarterback ever with four thousand yards passing eight
hundred yards rushed in a single season. How do you
like that? You got him now?
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Rady.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
I'm very proud of our team starting off on to
just looking at how how fans was happening with us,
you know, just battling adversity, people just doubting us, and
just just turnaround.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
We had, you know, win the games here and there,
and in the division.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
This division is very tough.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
We got some of the best defensive players you know
in the league in our division, and we want to
matching up.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
Against him twice a year.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Really, so I'm gonna say six.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
Times, because like I said, defense on all the teams
we play, good defenders on all the teams we play.
But I'm very proud of my team.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Man.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
We battle and we got the job done. But the
job is undone any of that.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
You know, here's a guy that is not truly boastful.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
I love the fact that his mama is his agent. Uh.
He just gets out there, gets the job done. You
don't see him in a lot of TV commercials. He's not.
I don't think he's an ego maniac. I know that
position itself, the quarterback position in the National Football League
is a diva position. I don't see that coming out
of Lamar Jackson. I just I just see a guy
gets the job done. And if the Bengals cannot get
(10:07):
far in the playoffs, who get to the Super Bowl.
I think it's time for Lamar Jackson to get that
Super Bowl right now. I'd love to see that happen.
Get that monkey off his back. He was controlling most
of the night last night. He came up with the
points in the first half. But you know, Derrick Henry,
here's a guy that's really helped this offense really roll
right now. In the first half. He was limited to
just eight rushing yards in the first half, but he
(10:29):
exploded one hundred and thirty yards rushing in the second
half is I'll have to say, I don't think Cleveland
gave up. I don't think Cleveland quit And I take
this out of a bucket Brooks, who told me at
one point in time, you see these teams, they say
they're tanking. I don't see that happening. And I'll tell
you why. Most of these guys are playing for jobs
next year. They want to get there, their stats up,
(10:52):
they want to get their play on tape. So if
in fact they are leed goal when the team they're
on right now, they could obtain a job somewhere in
the National Football League on another team. So I don't
see that tanking. I think the tanking term is for
the Birds last week. Look last week, the New York
Football Giants put up forty five points. By doing that
(11:12):
and winning last week against those Raiders, they lost the
opportunity maybe for the number one pick. They're not tanking.
They're looking for jobs, really, and that includes the coaching
staff as well. So I think the term tanking throwed
out the window. They're not doing that. They're really not.
So Derrick Henry was limited to just eight rushing yards
in the first two quarters, had one hundred and thirty
rushing yards in the second half. He had two touchdowns,
(11:33):
and that really shut the door in the Cleveland Browns.
And look, the Browns are able to put together somewhat
of an effort last night, but they're not good. They're
just not a good ball club. They're not and that's
the way it is. Even the Ravens had a double
digit lead at halftime, Baltimore started to run, and they
ran pretty hard. Lamar Jackson a Company made it twenty
one to three for seventy yards down the field on
(11:55):
a seven play drive that saw Lamar Jackson tell us
why he may very well be the MVP. And speaking
of m vps, here's my MVP right now and his
name is Bucky Brooks. You are the MVP, my friend.
How are you?
Speaker 4 (12:10):
I'm good, Andy, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Has some technical difficulties getting on, but I'm here and
I'm excited.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Touch I understand that it happens to the best of us,
and when it happens, the demons are there. And I
know you got rid of him, but I know you
watched those games last night, and what about the Bengals.
It was an irony. I thought the fact that the
achilles heel of that team all year long was the defense,
and it was the defense that got him out last
nine to one with Troy Hendrickson. You know, it's funny
(12:36):
how things go right.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
Yeah, Like Trey Hendrickson, who has been underrated, He's a
guy who's consistently amongst the leaders in sacks. He showed
up and showed up when they really really needed him.
His ability to be a one man wrecking crew off
the edge disrupted the rhythm and the cadence of the
Pitts Versila's passing game. And when you look at the
Bengals to five game winning streak, they have played better
defense and it has given us an oppertunity to appreciate
(13:01):
the job that Lou and a Rumo can do when
given the pieces in the personnel to get it done.
Haass off to the Bengals for winning five straight, for
finding a way to put themselves in a position to
potentially go into playoffs when a lot of teams kind
of pack it in, they were able to keep fighting.
So that's the testament to the job the Zach Taylor's done.
And also the players, let.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Me run this by you. They're nine and eight. Right now,
they rolled the reeled off five straight wins. There's an
opportunity right now. They can't control their own destiny, and
that's bad because now they're gonna be biting their nails
watching the Miami Dolphins of the Denver Broncos today and
hoping they both lose or at least Denver ties. Okay,
that'll get it done. However, however, should they not make
the playoffs, you got a Joe Burrow who's a possible MVP.
(13:44):
You got a Trey Hendrickson who's gonna lead the league
in sacks. You got Jamar Chase who's gonna win the
Triple Crown as a receiver. Okay, they don't make the playoffs,
who do you blame? And if you're a GM, if
you're a head honcho of a ball club and tomorrow's
Black Monday, is Zach Taylor's job in jeopardy because you
got these great players and they're not gotta go to
(14:04):
the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
No, I don't think his job of being jeopardy. I
think the big question own ownership would have to just
kind of happened. Why are we consistently starting up the
gates slow? What are we doing in preseason, just preventing
us from kind of finding a rhythm early, and we're
giving away games that end up costing us an opportunity
to take a team that is good enough to be
a playoff team into the postseason. That would be the
(14:27):
main thing. What can we switch, What can we change
in the offseason? How can we just start the season
faster so we don't always put ourselves behind the eight
ball in terms of you know, I know people have
been calling for Louanna Rumo's head and the defense is
terrible in those things, but he's the same coach that
got it their defense to our higher level, that led
him to a super Bowl. So then you have to
(14:48):
look at is it the coaching scheme or personnel?
Speaker 4 (14:52):
Does he need to adapt his scheme, does he need.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
To evolve, have people caught up with what he was
doing in the past, or is the personnel right?
Speaker 4 (14:59):
I would say that the personnel.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
Has been more of the problem than the coaching because
he's the same guy.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
I think it's the personnel.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
When when they have the right personnel, we've seen them
play some of the older players in those.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
Things, they're beginning to play better.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
So it's one of those things where no one wants
to sit out. But when you do sit out, you
got to do a deep dive. And once you do
that deep dive, you make decisions based on that.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
Media people and fans alike need to get their heads
examined at times. And I'll tell you why. Lou Aniromo
right now is the same guy that was one of
the hottest assistant coaches in defensive coordinators two years ago
when they went to the Super Bowl and he was
being interviewed for jobs head coaching jobs like in Arizona
and other places. Now you know, the mob scene wanted
(15:42):
to him have his head hung and fire him. You know,
he's not any stupid to today than he was two
years ago. I mean, that's the problem that I have.
He's a heck of a football guy. And you have
told me this time and time again, and you know this.
You're only as good as your personnel. I mean, you
are the one that told me that Cleveland could be
in the Super Bowl this year way back in all
this Well, no, I'm not I'm not picking on you
(16:03):
by saying that, but I'm just saying, you know why
they don't have a quarterback? What I and does that mean,
Kevin Stefanski's a bad coach that does another game of football. No,
you know, give him some talent, give him a quarterback
and they'll win. That's the problem. You know, who knew
that Deshaun Watson will not be playing this year? You
know got hurt at the end too. I mean just
just the name of the game. You know that, and
(16:24):
you've told me that.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Yeah, I mean it does come down of personnel. Now,
coaching is responsible for some of these things, but ultimately,
when you when you evaluate the coach, you have to
look and see what could the coach done better? Is
it part of a trend? Can he fix whatever problems
that we have. If you can't fix the problems, then
you have.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
To move on.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
And in each of these situations, the situation we talk
about now with Zach Taylor, I don't think Zach Taylor
is going to be fired. I think they have to
have some hard conversation. It's they need to make some
tough decisions when it comes to personnel. I would say
they need to pay Jamar Chase Anti Higgins because when
both of those guys are available, the offense is dynamic. Obviously,
(17:04):
they were counting on Jermaine Burton being someone that could
replace the Higgins, but he can't. He can't show up,
He's not consistent enough with the off the field stuff.
To me, it just makes sense for them to keep
Zach Taylor, keep this offense role and give Joe Burr
what he needs and then find a way to kind
of get the defense up and going. But this is
a team that's the playoff team and a dangerous team,
(17:25):
a team that no one really wants to face their
first round, walkout round.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
I think the fact that Chase Brown didn't play that
hurt them. The running game wasn't too bad last night,
but what Chase Brown gives them? And maybe I'm off
base by saying this not only a strong runner out
of the batfield, but a guy who could catch the
football out of the batfield, which I didn't really have
last night. And I think losing Chase Brown is a
big loss for them. And if they do move on
(17:51):
in the playoffs, if they the playoffs, I think that
Chase may be available next week if they're playing. I mean,
they may not be playing so and that would be
a shame. I mean, what would it be like? I mean,
have you ever been in a situation like that where
you have to depend on other teams to get you
a playoff birth was that to me has to be
the most nerve wracking thing in the world. You want
(18:12):
to do it yourself on the field. You don't want
anybody else to control your destiny.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
No, you don't want anyone else to control your destiny.
And you hate putting yourself in that situation, but you
have you to blame. And I can tell you it's
nerve racking when you don't have control of it because
you've got to take care of your business and then
you're hoping, you're hoping that someone else can get it
done for you. We had situations like that in the past,
playing in the Jackson for Jacksonville.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
Back in ninety six season.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
We find a way to we just need to kind
of win and get in, but we needed some other
things to kind of go our way to give us
that opportunity, and it did, and then it put an
immense amount of pressure on us to take care of
our business against the Lanta Falcons and it was the
worst game that we played, and we benefited from Morten
Anderson missing which should have been a chippy field goal
him at the end to get into the postseason. But
(19:02):
once we got into the postseason with all the pressure
off man, we knocked off the Buffalo Bills on the road,
we knocked off the number one seed Denver Broncos, and
we often be came up short in the championship game.
Feels very similar to the way the Bengals feel they
just need a chance to get into the tournament, because
once you get into the tournament, everything rests to zero
and zero and it becomes about matchups and execution as
opposed to anything else.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Okay, so the Bengals need the Dolphins to lose, and
they need the Broncos to lose. The Jets are playing
the Dolphins in Miami today, and here's the funny thing
to a quarterbacking of the Dolphins is not gonna play,
all right, So there's a possibility that's gonna help the Bengals.
Yet Tua came out and said this the other day,
I'm not gonna play. I'm hurting, but if we make
(19:45):
the playoffs, I'll play. What kind of moronic statement is that? Now?
To think about that there's a big game for them,
and maybe he doesn't think it's a big game, then
I go back to the Chiefs are playing at Denver today.
They're playing the Broncos and Patrick Mahomes is not going
to play, so obviously that puts a bit of a
Disadvtae in the Cincinnati Bengals because I think they need
the Chiefs to win. I think the Chiefs have have
(20:06):
a less of a chance to win without Patrick Mahomes
a quarterback. But I get it. You know, they're fifteen
to one, they're playing for nothing right now. They want
to keep them healthy. But I'm not so certain that's
going to be too fair for them if the Broncos
win that game.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
Yeah, but they've always kind of done this kind of stuff,
right The Kansa City Chiefs have always elected to rest
their veterans, and they have an older team. You think
about the guys that potentially could sit out, you think
about Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Chris Jones. I would think
DeAndre Hopkins would be someone who plays limited minutes, and
anybody else's dealing with an injury their thing. They know
(20:42):
if they get to the tournament with everyone healthy, they're
a very very.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
Difficult team to beat.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Doesn't make sense to play Patrick Mahomes, give Carson Wentz
to start. Also help Carson Wentz gets ready in case
he has to be called upon to play in a
game in the postseason. Carson Wentz, despite his status as
a backup quarterback, has been a starting quarterback. Hasn't been
great the last couple of times we've seen him, but
Andy Reid, with any quarterback given a week, has always
(21:09):
found a way to have some kind of production on offense.
I wouldn't just dismiss the chief chances of still keeping
the Denver Broncos out the postseason with a good win.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
We'll see what happens, all right, here's Bucket Brooks, he's
the man. Get him on X at Bucket Brooks or
Mike Harmonal Jonnas and our number three get him at
Swollen Dome. I'm Andy Furman. You get me at Andy
Furman FSA, oh, get us all on my bell eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine
nine six sixty three sixty nine. We got to ask
Bucky in this ali bottom barrel betting on our number
two and as mentioned the Swollen Dome himself, my Carminal
(21:39):
Jonnas in our number three. That's eight am E sent time.
But now what happened to the cream of the crop.
That's next.

the college playoffs at the same time. It's tremendous. I
(22:43):
love it. Okay, the one in two seeds were blasted.
Ohio State rolled Oregon in the rematch of the Rose Bowl.
The SEC champion Georgia, they got dumped by Notre Dame.
Arizona State fell to Texas in two overtimes. Boise State
missed the Field Bowl that would have cut the lead
to one score, and that was against Penn State. So
now NOTEJA Day twenty three to ten over Georgia. The
(23:04):
top four seeds went zero to four, and Texas newlywed
to the SEC. But they're the only SEC team left.
That's amazing. How surprised were you with that deal?
Speaker 4 (23:17):
A little surprised. But what I'm beginning to realize, rhythm
is everything. It's hard to.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Keep the team playing at a high level when you
have a three week break. Nick Saban and Jim Harbor
spoke to those things in the past when they had
tough times winning bowl games because they were overpracticed, trying
to be perfect in breaking down the team.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
What you have. The way the current.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
College football playoff is set up, you have the four teams,
four conference winners that get the Bibeek well, those other teams.
In each of these teams that we saw where they
had to play a tough, competitive game the week before
they faced those teams in the quarterfinals, and what that
did it hardened the team and prepared them for how
playoff games are ratcheted up when it comes to intensity, physicality,
(24:03):
speed of the game. In those things you saw early
in each of those games, the team that played the
previous week jumped right on top of the other team.
So while the other team is kind of trying to
ease back into it, the team that it played the
week before, they're rolling, They have a rhythm, they do
exactly what they expect, and that is the difference in
the game. And most of these things that quick start
(24:24):
in the first quarter that was I would say accelerated
by the fact that you played a game the week before.
What's the difference in all of these contests And it's
some of the things that the coaches will have to
look at. How can I get my team ready to
play when we're coming off this by weekend the postseason?
Speaker 1 (24:41):
Yeah, and could we stop the argument like who deserves
to be in? Who doesn't deserve to be in? Did
you catch this score Alabama loss to Michigan nineteen thirteen.
I get it. Michigan had a very few starters playing
in that game. I understand that. But Alabama lost. All right,
So back off and stop. I accept it what it
is and I love it. Got this orange ball on
(25:01):
Thursday night. You got Penn State against Notre Dame. It
is gonna be one hell of a game. This may
be one of the best games of the year because
you got a defensive team and Penn State. They have
had six interceptions to the two playoff games they played.
They returned two of them for touchdowns like Gus smu.
And here's the big stat which I think that's kind
of gone under the rug right now. When they played
(25:23):
Boise State, they held Ashton genty to three point five
yards of rush. That was his worst outing of the year.
The defense runs Penn State. It's gonna be a great game,
it really is.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
It's gonna be a great game.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Two teams that are very similar to how they go
about doing their business. Both teams are talented. Both teams
want to dominate the line of scrimmage, offensive defensive lines,
or everything. They want to run the ball, stop to run,
and they have quarterbacks who have to make plays but
are bit wild cards X factors. The game ultimately come
down to Riley Leonard and Drew Aller being able to
(25:58):
play in whichever one of those guys plays better, their
team is going to advance to the next round.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
Right, And you look, both teams don't really have much
of a passing game. Okay, you talk about Riley Leonard,
the quarterback that Notre Dame, he only threw for like
eighty eight yards and he ran for sixty five in
that game over Indiana when they won twenty seven to seventeen.
But again, their offense relies on the top ranked running
game led by Leonard and Jeremiah Love. Okay, and they
(26:26):
say Love's got basically a bit of a leg injury.
But Notre Dame to me, I mean you talk about
what they've done after losing to Northern Illinois. I mean
they wanted to have they wanted a close shop after
that loss, and they just kept on winning. I mean,
what a credit to Notre Dame and their coaching staff.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
Yeah, a Greek credit.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
And I've said this and I'm interestated to you on
the show. The loss to Northerner may have been the
best thing to happen in Notre Dame because it made
them not only dig deep and display some resilience in
grit that was necessary, but it also has kept them focused.
The fact that they've dominated opponents from that point is
(27:07):
everything that you want to see from a team that is.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Hard and it is battle tested and ready to go.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
Marcus Freeman can always point back to that game in
terms of why they have to prepare and do the
things and practice to set themselves up to win. They're
a really good team. They're not a flashy team, but
they are solid in so many areas, and he has
them buying into whatever he's preaching.
Speaker 4 (27:32):
I love it, man, I just love how they're playing.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
You know, honestly, I mean, hindsight's twenty twenty. But this guy,
Marcus Freeman. I remember when he was coaching on the
staff at the University of Cincinnati, and when he left
that was a big loss. He got the job of
Note Your Dame. I guess simply because Brian Kelly left
and it was too late to go maybe do a
national search. I don't know. They just moved them up
the ranks, and I think there's a lot of question marks.
Canny get it done. Can he be a head coach?
(27:56):
He might be, if not the best in the top
five head coach in the country right now. He has
done a tremendous job. I love him. I think he's
a great coach. I really do.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
He is a great coach. He's come a long way.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
He's continue to improve his craft as a coach, and
that's what you want to see.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
You want to see guys get better. It means a
lot to him.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
He's focused on the things that you have to not
only in terms of the X and o's to make
sure the team is playing right, but the culture, the relationships,
to friendships, how you challenge them.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
He has created an environment and Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Look, it's always been a traditional power or wanted to
be a traditional power, but he accepts what the challenges
and limitations are in terms of the type of kids
that can bring in. You got to be able to
do the school work. You have to be able to
do all the things off the field. But then on
the field, you need to be a competitive dog. You
need to be able to raise your level of play
(28:51):
in those big games. We didn't see that from the
program for a long time, where if they had to
play an SEC team. They didn't have the athletes, nor
did they have the teald to go toe to toe
with them.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Not anymore.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
This team would go toe to toe with anybody, which
is why they could end up being the last team standing.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
It's amazing, it really is. Now you talk about, you know,
what they did after Northern Illinois and it was maybe
one of the better things that happened to them. You know,
you may want to say the same thing about Ohio
State after losing to Michigan. We move over to the
to the Cotton Bowl on Friday night, Texas is going
to play Ohio State. Excuse to me, Ohio State can
beat everybody except Michigan. And maybe that wasn't wake up call.
I don't know. Ohio State, I look at it right now.
(29:29):
Is probably a shocking loss to Michigan. Maybe it's one
of those games like you just build up and it's
too much. You know, you could have moved back to
just a little bit. I know, it's the game for them.
You tell me one time that you were up there
in Columbus and like to have like the statue or something,
and they lobby like all they do is count the
days like when they play Michigan, gott to move back
a little bit, take it easy. Maybe there's too much,
(29:50):
too much. I guess attention isn't to that Michigan game.
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Yeah, And it's hard.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
It's hard to take to divert the in away from
the game when the fan base is so rabid about
Ohio State and how important it is for them to
win those games. I will say, it's one of the
things that if you're Ryan Day, maybe we do need
to alleviate some of the pressure. What has happened since
the Michigan game, though, to speak to their dominance, I
(30:19):
think they got out of trying to prove to people
how tough they are and leaned into we have more talent.
I'm gonna make sure that our talent overwhelms your tactics.
And that's what the Ohio State buck As have done.
Their superior personnel has and they allowed them to dominate.
Because my guys are better than your guys. I'm not
gonna trick you. I'm not really worried about that. I'm
(30:41):
gonna put my guys in a position to let them
dominate the game with their time, and that's what they're doing.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
The dominate you. They demolished Tennessee forty two to seventeen.
That was in the first round, and then there was
a revenge game against the Oregon forty one twenty one
in the Rose Bowl. It was thirty four to nothing
at one point in the first half. Oregun finished with
my twenty three rushing yards and Ohio State had eight sacks.
That's dominating, dominating, and they might be the last team standing, really,
(31:09):
and you got to feel pretty good about Ryan Day,
who basically they wanted to hang his head on a
tree after that Michigan loss. Now you know they could
beat everybody but Michigan. So what they may be national champs?
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Yeah, I mean it'd be crazy.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
But right now they're playing really well and if they
continue to play like that, it's gonna be problematic for everybody.
I mean, this is a really good team. They're hard
and they can win a few different ways. They got
a top nine defense to go in.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
An explosive but powerful offense.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
They have like maybe the best receiver in football in
Jeremiah Smith, but he's surrounded about other top playmakers. Just
a really good team.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
To me.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
The thing that you worry about is Kim will Howard
continue to play how he's playing, because if the quarterback
plays like he's playing man, no one can knock them off.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
He is explaining that you have to get right smack
me out for saying this. I'm gonna say, Jeremiah Smith
could play in the NFL right now, all.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
Right, Yeah, I mean he can't.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
I mean he's good, good, He's had thirteen cats. He's great,
thirteen catches, twohundred ninety yards and four touchdowns in the
two college football playoff games. I mean, really and truly,
And that's kind of strange for an Ohio State team
that basically was relying on the running game. And I'm
glad they moved away from that running game because they
got great receivers. And maybe that was the problem. Maybe
(32:28):
that was the problem, the game planning, the run, run,
run the football. No, you got great receivers on this team,
use them.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
That might have something to do with it.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
But you know, before you can use the receivers, you're
going to make sure that the quarterback is right. And
maybe you're trying to protect the quarterback from himself when
you make some of these calls and not allow him
to throw it all over the yard. In those things,
you don't trust him, but then as he makes more players,
you begin to give him more leeway. That's what's happening
to me. I just believe that they are all in
(33:00):
on the talent. They have more confidence in the quarterback,
and that's why they'reletting it rip a little more in
the postseason than they did during a regular season.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
Okay, we go back to that Peach Bowl game when
Arizona State and Texas Texas glew with twenty four to
eight fourth quarter lead in that game and they needed
to quit you Wears to save the day. It probably
was the most exciting playoff game thus far because it
was back and forth and we went to overtime. But
you Weres completed twenty and thirty for three twenty two,
(33:29):
three touchdowns and one big fourth down conversion, had one
interception that was the game right there. But they had
a sweat. They were lucky to beat Arizona State. I
was pull of Arizona State. I liked that coach Dillingham.
I think he's a character. I like characters. But it
was a great year of Arizona State. They came out
of nowhere. What were they picked to finish like next
to last on the conference coming into the season. So
(33:49):
it was a great year of Arizona State, but Texas
was a bumpy ride for Texas. And I'll tell you what,
I don't think they could hold their own in the
next round. I really don't. I think Ohio State it's
gonna slam the door and then pretty good.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Well, the one thing that we do know, there's no
carryover from one week to the next.
Speaker 4 (34:06):
Uh. You still got to play the game and line
it up.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
And for all of the things that Ohio State brings
to the table that are wonderful, can they continue.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
To play at that level?
Speaker 2 (34:15):
And it's no guarantee when you're dealing with eighteen to
twenty two year olds that they're going to be able
to sustain the focus and the high level of execution
that they displayed so far. This has to be one
when it comes down to mistakes for playing mistake for
mistake free football to be able to advance. We'll see
if they can continue to do it. Yeah, on paper,
just super talented, but I would not dismiss the long
(34:38):
corn chances of being able to bounce back.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
There we go, He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Indy Firmerwell, Fox
Football sonnya Fox Buts Radio. Some tough questions, but he
has the answers. Ask Bucky is next. You're listening to
Fox Sports Radio Radio. Ask Bucky coming right up. It's
about the eleven minutes before of the top of the hour.
This is Fox Football Sonya, Fox Buts. Ready, We's fuck
he Brooks and Andy Furman and away we go. Let's
(35:01):
do Hell and last Bucky, here we go. Book tomorrow
is Black Monday. All right, I got a couple of
coaches here. Are you gonna tell me if they stay
a go and why? And let's get rolling right now. First,
I'll give a couple of hints. A little background. Mike
McCarthy coaching the Dallas Cowboys forty nine and thirty four
with the Cowboys. And I guess if Dallas really wanted
to renew McCarthy's contract, they would have done it by now.
(35:24):
So I'm not too certain. I think he's gone. Mike
McCarthy with Dallas.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
Yeah, I think he is eventually going to go.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
I think they're gonna have conversations for a few days
and maybe even a week, and then eventually I think
Dale part ways Mike McCarthy's done a really good job.
But the way that they finished you just kind of
hear the conversation maybe growing weird for people in the
organization and cowboys.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
Mike McCarthy's gone.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
There we go and by the way, we'll lie for
the tiraq dot Com studios. We roll along right now
to the Indianapolis Colt Shane Steichen. He's sixteen and seventeen
with the Colts. But I'll tell you what with a
new quarterback, a rookie quarterback Richardson, I think they keep
him there because I think you can't just keep on switching.
I think you gotta have some sort of a stability factor.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
I don't know, man like, it seems kind of crummy there.
The quarterback is bad. And whether he was on board,
said he was gonna be a superstar, or the gentleman
is on board, he's not. Anthony Richardson is bad. He's
at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to everything.
This is dice is a coin flip. I'm going to
say he goes. I believe they more going from him
(36:28):
and everybody.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
Your guy, ap Antonio Pierce, coach of the Raiders. He's
not in sixteen. But let's face it, he's got no
k not on quiet up, Come on. They trained DeVonta Adams,
Gardner Minshew and that eight and o'conna's quarterbacks. You ain't
gonna win anything there. But I think he's gone. I
just think they're crazy over there in Vegas. I think
he's gonna be fired.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
Yeah, I mean if they fir h.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
Look, you talk about a guy who's having the force
with one hand tie behind his back, no quarterback situation.
You moved on from Devonte Adams in the middle of
the year. You don't have a lot going for it.
I would say, somehow he convinces the owner, I need
another year, but I need a quarterback. The ex fact
that there was Tom Brady's involvement with the team, does
Tom Brady believe in AP That's being the other question
(37:11):
I'm gonna say, he says.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
Okay, Drod Mayo, coach of New England Patriots. He's three
and thirteen with the Patriots right now. He was going
to be the success of the Bill Belichick. But I
don't think he was supposed to be worse this year
than they were last year. So I think he's gonna
be fired.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
He gets an opportunity to stay because the owner hand
picked him. You know, it was in his contract. He
was head coaching waiting. You don't want to have egg
on your face. Robert Kraft hangs with him for at
least another year before they look for another courch.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
All right. Doug Peterson with a Jacksonville Jacks twenty two
and twenty eight with Jacksonville. Oh boy, I don't know.
He's five and seventeen in his last twenty two games.
I think he's in trouble.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
He's in a lot of trouble. Five and seventeen. They've
lost a bunch of one score games. But on your
ability to win one score games comes down to coaching
and execution. And if you have a ton of losses
like obviously, you can blame the coaches because you have
been able to get the execution from the players.
Speaker 4 (38:09):
It's unfortunate. But I think Doug is out.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
I would say this. They lost that game this year,
fifty two to six to the Lions. I thought he
was gonna get hacked that game. I really did. I
thought he's gonna be out there after that game. That
was that was kind of ugly.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
I mean it was ugly, and there were there was
a lot of conversation around that time about whether he
would be able to make it. He held on, but
things didn't turn around. So it makes a very very
difficult decision for Jack Khan.
Speaker 4 (38:36):
All Right.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Kevin Stefanski, coach of the Cleveland Browns, he's forty and
forty three with the Browns, not his full with Deshaun
Watson and that two hundred and thirty million dollars guaranteed contract.
He had to live with that. But I still think
he's gone.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
I do, yeah, I don't think that Stepanski, he's gone.
It's the last year though. They got to figure out
the quarterback situation with DeShawn Washington. He hasn't played well
in any iteration of the offense that they have, so
Stefanski has to make a decision.
Speaker 4 (39:06):
It's either you or.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
Me, and I think he's gonna pick you, which is
Deshaun Wison got to go, and he's gonna try and
stay around and win with somebody else at quarterback.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
There you go. Zach Taylor, coach of the Bengals. So
he's forty five, fifty two and one with the Bengals.
I think the fact that as long as he's got
He's got two more years in his contract. The Bengals
are not going to pay somebody not to work. So
he'll be back.
Speaker 4 (39:28):
Yeah, he'll be back. He may need to make some tweaks.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
And adjustments to his preseason calendar and that stuff, but
yeah he will.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
He'll be back.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
Brian day boll of the Giants eighteen thirty one and one.
He's gone with the Giants. He's fired.
Speaker 4 (39:42):
Wow, you just think I don't know if it's a
done deal. I like him, though, deal, you know, quarterback.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
I mean, it wasn't his fault that they got rid
of sick one Barkley, but you know he's the coach.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
He had to play a role in it though, that's
the thing. And the owner just when you look at
that hard knocks and the owner was just so in
love with him.
Speaker 4 (40:00):
So yeah, he goes here.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
We go, we gotta go to I'll tell you what.
Two NFL teams Struck Gold, Bucky Brooks tells you who
they are coming up next? Here a Fox. Are they
really rookies? Are they? Well? That's coming right out. Good morning, everybody.
This is Fox Football Sunday on Fox Sports Radio. He's

Hello Buck, how are you?
Speaker 4 (40:45):
I am good?
Speaker 2 (40:45):
I am good, enjoying a pleasant Sunday after great.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
Football week, not just week yes week, and it's not
over yet.
Speaker 1 (40:52):
It is not over. I have so many things to
ask you. I want to get started right now. Are
you ready? But like my head's speakinning, just split. Really,
I got so many the number one we talked about
black Monday tomorrow. I got one more coach on that list.
I want to run. Buy Kyle Shanahan seventy sixty one
with the forty nine ers. I don't think that's gonna happen,
but he's kind of been on the hot seat. But
(41:13):
all those injuries, you can't blame him.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
Uh now, you always can blame people like when it
comes to the injuries and all that other stuff like that.
That's the part of it, because then you have to
investigate the program. What are you doing that is hurting?
I'll say this about Kyle. You would like to see
him continue because he's certainly a good.
Speaker 4 (41:34):
Coach and he does all that other stuff.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
But man, what is up with the up and down
stuff when it comes to their performances and all that
other stuff? He stays, I mean, we got to have
a little conversation figure out what's going on with them?
Speaker 1 (41:47):
There, you go on with you? Okay, Now a couple
other questions. I just want to get these off my
head because it's going to explode. The Lions are playing
the Vikings tonight and the loser is gonna be the
first four team win wildcard team and NFL history. Lion's
wide eve Amon Ross Saint Brown, he said that they
should go to the NBA format. What's that? See the
teams by one loss records regardless of what the division
(42:07):
they're in. Right, I agree with that. I mean, it's
gonna be crazy. So if the Vikings lose and the
Lions win tonight, the Vikings are gonna have fourteen wins.
But they're gonna go into a be a wild card.
It doesn't make any sense. It's crazy, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (42:21):
I mean, it diffinitely is crazy. It's not what you
want to see. But I don't know, man.
Speaker 4 (42:29):
Look I think it's the first look.
Speaker 2 (42:31):
It's the first go round, and since it's the first
go around, you try and figure it out and get
it better down the line. It's hard because there's so
many different things that we can talk about, like when
it comes to home field, should they give those buy
teams home field instead of moving to the bowl games?
And those things. It has to be tweaked. They can
(42:51):
make it better. I'm just excited that it is going
on the way that.
Speaker 4 (42:54):
It's going on.
Speaker 1 (42:55):
I'm with you there. You know. To me, I'm not
playing it, and I'm not a member of one of
those teams, so I don't really care. I'm just excited
to see what's going on to be a great game,
no doubt about that. Okay. Beginning of the show. Top
of the show today, I talked about MVP possibilities, to
talk about Lamar Jackson, maybe Joe Burrow's name is in there,
Saquon Barkley, and also Josh Allen. All Right, my question
(43:15):
to you is how do you vote for an MVP.
Is it individual status of the player or is it
the team's success and their record? How does one vote
for an MVP.
Speaker 2 (43:25):
Uh, it's a little combination of both. It is the
individual stats of the player combined with the team's success,
because if you're an MVP, you certainly impact the way
that the team goes. So I would say it's a
little combination, a little combination of both.
Speaker 1 (43:41):
Because Joe Burrow's got tremendous stats, but his team is
not really done much and they may be staying home
this year, not going to the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
Yeah, but you could make the case for him, and
I wasn't on board. You were on that way before me.
But in seeing the numbers that he's put up, he
certainly deserved it being in that conversation. May not win it,
but he definitely is deserving a being in that conversation.
Speaker 1 (44:03):
No doubt about that. And another question, one last, but
not least roll by you. Not your Dame is going
to play on a shorter turnaround than the Orange Bowl
than Penn State. Is that a disadvantage that one extra
day of rest.
Speaker 4 (44:19):
I don't know if it matters.
Speaker 2 (44:20):
Man You just got to be tough enough to get
your team ready to go, no excuses, no whatever. Just
got to be ready to play. And so they need
to be ready to play. It's not perfect, but you
gotta deal with it. You're in the tournament. So your
team has to be ready to play any situation, in
any circumstance.
Speaker 1 (44:37):
Okay, a couple of less less little nuggets here to
run by you. Last night, the Bengals are playing in Pittsburgh.
They said it was like nineteen degrees with a wind
chill factor maybe in single digits during the course of
the game, and I was watching on TV they had
snowflakes there. All right. My question is this, during the week,
the Bengals are practicing indoors. Why in the hell would
(44:59):
you practice in doors when you want to get ready
for the bitter cold outdoors on a Saturday night in Pittsburgh.
I never understood that. Don't you have to practice for
the elements. I don't understand. I mean, these teams that
play in Miami in the winter time and they're playing
in northern climates, you know, really, then you should maybe
play indoors and turn the heat up to get used
(45:21):
to it. That's why they get these cramps. I mean,
what is the difference. Why don't they do that? Why
wouldn't the Bengals practice outdoors, maybe even at night in
the cold, rather than practice indoors.
Speaker 2 (45:34):
I would say this, some people believe in getting the
quality work matters more than like recreating the environment preparing
you for what you're stepping into. Some whether it's just hey,
let's go inside, let's get the quality work.
Speaker 4 (45:49):
The game comes down to execution.
Speaker 2 (45:51):
And we don't really need to worry about like preparing
to play your cold whether game. I guess are professional enough,
they're mature enough to handle that. Let's make sure we
give them the best practice environment that they can be
in to do all the things that we know we're
gonna need to do on a giving game.
Speaker 4 (46:07):
There.
Speaker 1 (46:08):
Okay, you played in Green Bay. What was it like
when when players were playing in Green Bay are coming
like from a Tampa or Miami and they're coming like
in the month of November December, knowing that it's gonna
be frigid in Green Bay. I mean, did you see
the fact that it was definitely an advantage that you
were playing in Green Bay against those Southern teams.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
Yeah, it could be advantageous, not just because of the weather. Look,
it's cold and you can adapt to that, but the.
Speaker 4 (46:33):
Field and playing in cold weather on.
Speaker 2 (46:36):
Different Fields's if it's Hoker grass, that's muddy, so now
it's a slower track.
Speaker 4 (46:42):
It impacts the cleats that you put in.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
Do you have your seven stud five eight inch cleets
or can you get away with your normal stuff? If
you're on turf, is this a basketball shoe day or
is this one where you need to have the nubby bottoms.
It impacts it more that way than just the weather.
The weather is certainly a factor, but it's the field
(47:05):
conditions and the wind if there's any win, that impacts
it far more than anything else.
Speaker 4 (47:10):
And there's no way you can prepare for that stuff.
Speaker 1 (47:12):
Okay, last, but not least, I'm watching NFL games now,
maybe even college games as well, and there's like a new,
a new thing that's going on. Every time maybe a
guy kicks a field goal, they smacked their helmets together.
What what's the deal? I mean, you talk about head
and I know maybe I'm going too far on this,
but they talk about head injuries, right, Why would they
bang their helmets against one another that that to me.
(47:35):
Maybe one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. I
saw it last night. Got kicks a field goal. They
smacked the helmets together.
Speaker 2 (47:41):
So you don't want to see guys head butt after
positive plays.
Speaker 1 (47:45):
Well about head injuries, I mean, come on, really, oh
Joe Burrow last night, but they buried his head and
in the turf.
Speaker 2 (47:53):
Oh, I mean that's that's a little different because you
have six hundred pounds of men and almost seven hundred
pounds of man that are driving Joe Burrow into the turf.
Speaker 4 (48:01):
Poor little Joe Burrow. But he survived it.
Speaker 2 (48:03):
He got up, continued to play and play hard and
play well and got a scene to a win.
Speaker 1 (48:08):
All right, So you're not opposed to a little tapping
of the of the helmets.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
Oh man, that's the part of the little tap into
the little little butt ahead butt.
Speaker 1 (48:18):
Yeah, like that all right. I wanted to get it
from the pro You told me that. Okay. Well, and
before we get into what you've rolled for NFL dot Com,
which is somewhat interesting, it's always interesting. I want to
go over this one game the Eagles are playing the
Giants today could have been a grudge game because Sae
kuon Barkley played for the Giants Eagles thirteen and three.
They're playing for nothing Giants of three and thirteen. Maybe
coach is playing for his life.
Speaker 6 (48:39):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (48:39):
We're talking about records, Sae Kwon Barkley and the Eagles
Giants today. Barkley is resting. He'll end the season with
two thousand and five rushing yards. That's one hundred and
one yards. Shy of breaking Eric Dickerson's forty year record,
commending saekuon Barkley because he says, you know what, you know,
taking a taking it for the team. I want to
stay healthy. You know there are bigger goals for a
head ahead of me, and you know he would have
(49:01):
liked to break the record. He's not going to break
the record. But does the record really mean anything? Was
Eric Dickerson had the record nineteen eighty four and he
did it in fourteen games. Barkley should he play today,
what he won't? He'll break that record. He would have
in seventeen games. No one says that. Why isn't there
an asterisk next to that? I mean three mark games
(49:21):
is a big deal. It really is. And I love
what Eric Dickerson said when he was approached by a
reporter about a week ago. You know when the reporter says, well,
you know what, Sikua may break your record. You know,
records are made to be broken. And Eric went nuts.
It was great, says really, he says, how many records
do you have? What do you know about records being
made to be broken? This is my record? That was
(49:42):
wonder fault up. He was honest, He was the fourth right.
He was truthful and I love him being that way.
He didn't want anybody to break his record. I don't
blame him. I love him. I love Eric Dickinson's remark.
Speaker 4 (49:54):
Yeah he's funny. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:55):
Edy certainly did not want to give up the record.
He wanted to he continue to have the record. He
wants to continue to be the record older. I don't
mind him coming out like that. I also don't mind
the Eagles sitting Saquon down. They are locked into the
number two seed. There's no opportunity for them to get
to buy week, so you take the by week now selfishly, Yeah,
(50:18):
there are people that wanted Saquon Barkley to stay in there,
but the number one thing that you're in this for
if you're the Eagles to win the Super Bowl. Those
individual records and accolades like they're great, but when you're
a super Bowl champion, everyone eats off of that. This
gives them an opportunity to be a champion because they're
number one running back, the number one off as a playmaker,
will test the ball early and off.
Speaker 1 (50:39):
Well, I would say this, if he needed maybe twenty
yards to break the record, I think he'd play one
hundred one yard. That's a lot. You know, you'd have
to play probably the entire game to get the one
hundred one yards. And it's not worth it. You know,
guy gets a twisted knee, high ankle spring, whatever it
may be. He's out for a playoffs. It's not worth
it for a record. And he's wise enough to know that.
He said his goal was to rush for tooth. You
(51:00):
actually got his goal record. Big deal, big freaking deal
to get the record. I mean, and I love Eric Dickerson.
He's going to keep his records. Everybody's happy. That's the
way it is. I love it.
Speaker 4 (51:09):
That is the way it is. Man.
Speaker 2 (51:10):
We looked as part of the game. We're ego driven.
We have to have a little ego to be good
at it. And what you saw is some of that
playing out. Everyone wanted to get a little individual attention
within the team sport.
Speaker 1 (51:24):
All right, let's get into what Bucket Brooks rope, because
you said there are a couple of teams right now
that have struck gold in the NFL, and I want
to know who they are and why. And basically you
told about the five most impactful rookies we were you
criteria when you wrote this for NFL dot com this week.
Speaker 2 (51:40):
I think a lot of it centers around impact. Who
gave me the impact? Who was available to kind of
turn the you know, the fortunes of the franchise around.
Did they play a key role the entire season? Did
they play a key roll down the stretch? You're trying
to fit it in most teams when it comes to rookies,
if they're high pick, you get them opportunities early. But
(52:01):
if they there was later round picks, those guys had
to really kind of work scratch claw against all yes
to get into the rotation and to the starting lineup.
Speaker 1 (52:09):
All right, you talking about their Washington commanders. Why they
came out of nowhere, haven't they? I mean Jade and Daniels.
Round one, number two, overall commanders right now have turned
it around. I mean, what he has done in the stats,
what fourth and offensive yards forty three to ninety four.
I mean, he's got a Pro Bowl deal and he's
gonna be the offensive rookie of the year. So I
think the decision, and I'm not going to say it
(52:31):
was an easy one. I think when the Bengals drafted
Joe Burrow, I mean I could have drafted Joe Burrow.
But right now, there's been a lot of quarterbacks that
have been picked, and Caleb Williams is one of them.
You know, you just don't know what you're going to get,
and maybe he'll become a top quarterback. You just don't know. Look,
going to have to Sam Donold. Everybody wrote him off.
Guy's great right now. At least he's great for Minnesota.
(52:51):
We'll see what happens. But right now, Jayden Daniels getting
the job done for Washington, So that's great, and they're
competitive right now big time.
Speaker 4 (53:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (53:00):
I mean, Jade Nings is everything right, So you give
them the not just based on finding a franchise quarterback,
and what a franchise quarterback.
Speaker 4 (53:08):
Means to your team. It means that you always have hope.
Speaker 2 (53:11):
It means that in any situation circumstance, your quarterback.
Speaker 4 (53:14):
Can bring you back. They have that in jayde and Daniels.
Speaker 2 (53:17):
It's clear as apparent he's at the top of the
food chain when it comes to the quarterback class from
from last season. But it goes beyond that for the Commanders,
Georjihn Newton being able to help them on the front line,
Mickey Sandra Steel being able to play outside or inside
in the defense.
Speaker 4 (53:33):
It's gotten a lot better because.
Speaker 2 (53:34):
Dan Quinn took it over but then brought a lot
of veterans with him to kind of help install it,
figure out and solidify the culture, all those things.
Speaker 4 (53:45):
But yet the young guys played a big role in
the Commanders kind.
Speaker 1 (53:48):
Of second round picks, and they had a couple of
third round picks too, don't they.
Speaker 2 (53:55):
Yeah, yeah, And by the Golden rule, you want to
make sure that you nail the first three rounds in
the draft.
Speaker 4 (54:02):
Those are the guys that can comprise the bulk of
your team.
Speaker 2 (54:06):
And you know, like when you're able to do that,
you're able to pick the right players in the right system,
you're going to have cut The kind of success that
they've had in Washington.
Speaker 1 (54:17):
You know, And it's funny. I understand Washington. They were
down the dumps. You get a number one pick, you
get the quarterback, and turns it around to get a
team that's been competitive year in and year out and
still make Bucky Brooks' list that they've really and truly
struck gold. You got the Philadelphia Eagles there. That speaks
a million volumes on what that staff does as far
(54:41):
as scouting. And I don't think it's luck. I think
they know what they're doing. And they got a haul.
You said they got a haul in the twenty twenty
four draft. I mean the Eagles right now, they finished
at the top of the food chain. And they still
got some great picks in the draft.
Speaker 2 (54:56):
Yeah, you get some great picks in the draft. And
the secret sauce behind the legal success has been their
ability to draft and draft well, particularly at the line
of scrimmage old line, d line. They crushed it. They
commit to making sure they always have a big in
that conversation within the first two or three rounds, and
they've done a really good job of identifying a weakness
(55:16):
and turning it into a strength. With the cornerback selections.
You know Quinion Mitchell Cooper dejen jumped to the lineup.
They allowed Big Fangio to do some different stuff on
defense and it has worked.
Speaker 4 (55:27):
You only can do that if you know a lot.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
About the players, how they tick, what they're about, how
they're motivated, and then you mash them over the coach
who knows how to push those buttons to bring all
of that out.
Speaker 1 (55:36):
And they got a running back and the fourth round.
That may be something for them too in the future.
Speaker 2 (55:41):
Right, Yeah, one of my favorites Will yeah, Will Shipley,
who comes from my area, not my area hometown, but
from right outside of Charlotte.
Speaker 4 (55:50):
Good player.
Speaker 2 (55:52):
Look a decorated lacrosse player in hot high school, so
that speaks to his athleticism.
Speaker 4 (55:57):
Really big on him. I think he can be special
down the line.
Speaker 1 (56:00):
Okay, the Los Angeles Rams, I'd say maybe about a
month or so ago you would have write them off
to going nowhere. Now, all of a sudden, you look
at their general manager. Everybody laughed at him, less snead
after he got used, got rid of all the draft picks,
after they won the Super Bowl. Look what he did,
came right back, got the verse in the first round
the draft I mean, this guy right now has built
this team right back up again. Plus his coach. I
(56:21):
get a lot of credit to the coaching staff at
the Rams.
Speaker 4 (56:24):
Yeah, this coach is amazing. Sean McVay is amazing.
Speaker 2 (56:27):
I would say he's one of the best coaches in
the biz, and he's one of the best. We used
to talk about him because of his wizardry, axes and
o's but I would say his management of people, his
development of players, to culture that he's created within the organization.
Speaker 4 (56:42):
They win because of him.
Speaker 2 (56:43):
This team was down well behind the eight ball, but
climbed out of the gutter, and they climbed out because
their rookie started playing really well. You think about defensively,
that front line, brandon Fists, Jared Verse, we talked about
Cam Kitchens and the secondary They've been able to do
it even though we thought Offenusvely we've seen a little more.
Blake Korn haven't seen that. But you have to feel
(57:05):
good about this team if you're Sean McVay, no.
Speaker 1 (57:08):
Doubt about that. And you talk about the Los Angeles charges.
Everybody's putting the point of the figure of the Jim
Harbar and certainly Jim Harbor has changed it. Give him
a lot of credit, but this team drafted an offensive
tackle on the first round, the kid out of Notre Dame,
Joe Alt, and I think that people were like holding
their breath. I'm sure the media killed the general manager,
Joe horts hordits that he drafted an offensive tackle. They
(57:29):
probably wanted an offensive lonsive player, a guy has scored
some points for him, but went with the offensive tackle.
And look what they've done. It was around one and
number five pick overall Alt.
Speaker 4 (57:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (57:40):
By going with Joe Alt, to me just was leaning
into Harbor's personality. They want to be a rough and
tumble team. If you're gonna be rough and tough, you
got a draft tough players. Joe All comes from Notre Dame.
We've seen how Notre Dame has played throughout the playoffs.
They certainly have an environment or a culture of toughness
and physicality, brutality. You want to slice it, the Chargers
(58:01):
do that, and Joe All taking him over a skill
player was big, But then you come back and get
a skill player in lab McConkey. Who if you had
an opportunity to see Georgia multiple times this year, their
wide receiver corps was not the same without him. Reliable, dependable, tough,
makes big plays. When those plays are there, He's jumped
into the number one row with the charges and they
(58:23):
haven't looked back.
Speaker 1 (58:24):
Yeah. And last, but not least, you got the Green
Bay Packers. Here has another team that's constantly near the top,
if not the top of their division. And they do
it right, not only drafting, but look what they did
a by grooming the quarterbacks. What they've done, they did
with Jordan Loved, they did with Aaron Rodgers. I mean,
I don't understand why other teams don't follow the script
of the green Bay Packers. It works, it really does.
Speaker 4 (58:46):
It works. But it works in title time because it
has to work.
Speaker 2 (58:49):
It works because everything in Green Bay goes back to
the Vincelandbardi days. Team team over self, make sure you
pour in before you dip out. They believe even that,
they believe in the draft and developed model, which requires patients,
homegrown products that are re signed. All of that is
because of the connection, the direct connection between the team
(59:11):
and the city, and that ownership of the team and
being accountable and responsible and physically responsible when it comes
to building the team. All of that ways into their
decision to be a draft and developed team. They draft
man like no other. They're really good at taking certain
care of certain parts of the team, and defensively with
(59:33):
these young guys. They have ez Arhn Cooper, Evan Williams,
bullet They just have so many young guys that can play.
Speaker 4 (59:40):
Got a hat.
Speaker 2 (59:41):
You gotta tip your tip of the hat to Brian
Gutacus and his staff.
Speaker 4 (59:45):
They did a really good job.
Speaker 1 (59:46):
But I would say the Kansas City Chiefs kind of
followed up model as well when they had Alex Smith
and they went if Patrick Mahomes had.
Speaker 2 (59:51):
Developed, Yeah, they did, but they do it a little differently.
The Kansa City Chiefs did it with the quarterback. The
Green Bay Packers do it at every position, and they
stockpile people behind you. You feel like you literally are
in the bullpen until you're ready to take on more responsibility.
That keeps everybody sharp because you always know that man,
they'll bring somebody else in, a young dude, a cheap
(01:00:13):
dude to try and move me out. I need to
always be at my best. If not, I'm vulnerable. That
can be got Here we go.
Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
We're rolling right now. He's Bucky Brooks. Get him on
x at Bucky Brooks. Mike Harmon will join us in
hour number three, that's eight o'clock on the East Coast.
Get him on x AT at Swollen Dome at Andy
Furman FSOL. We'll read him, we'll retweet him. There we go.
Obviously we could get an eight seven seven ninety nine
on Fox if you want to give us a holler.
Eight seven seven nine ninety six sixty three sixty nine.
(01:00:43):
We got Bin and Barrel betting in this hour. Watch out, Bucky,
we got Mike the Swollen Dome Harmon and hour number
three has mentioned and why not an MVP vote right here?
That's next, all right, they'll have one eye on the scoreboard.
That's coming right up. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy Furman
and WI our Fox Football Sunday at Fox Sports Radio.
We're live for the Ti rock dot Com studios. By

also follow, rate and review the podcast. Again, just search
Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts and you'll
see this show Fox Football Sunday right after we get
off the air. All right, let's get roll. We've got
(01:01:25):
a couple of games to get into Buck and let's
do it right now. Let's talk about the Commanders at
the Cowboys. Basically, I think the only question we have
right now is the coach going to be back for
the Cowboys McCarthy. He may be gone after tomorrow. And
did they sign Dak Prescott. I mean, obviously they kind
of gone in for a little less money prior to
the season. Now they're gonna have to pay big time
for Dak Prescott. That's basically the story of that game,
(01:01:47):
because the Commanders are going to the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (01:01:50):
Yeah, I mean, I think everyone are just waiting and
seeing what's gonna happen with the coach. Mike McCarthy has
really done a really good job of getting Dak Prosky
Prescott to play well. And let's be honest, they won.
They've had three straight seasons where they won twelve games.
That's a notable accomplishment. They fell off a little bit
this year, but you still got to give him credit
(01:02:11):
for the amount of success that they've had doing it.
Speaker 4 (01:02:15):
Maybe there's a chance they can bring.
Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
Him back on a two year, three year deal, something
short and sweet, to give him a chance to have
bemfore a roster because the roster wasn't great this year.
They were transitioning with a bunch of young guys. Maybe
that's his saving grace.
Speaker 1 (01:02:30):
All Right, we got the Bills now with the Patriots,
and from what I'm hearing now, maybe I'm mistaken. I
think quarterback Mitch Trubisky is going to play for the
Bills and Josh Allen's not going to play all right,
And you know, people always use that term tanking, and
I learned this from you. I give you credit. Teams
don't tank because a guy like miss Trubitsky, he wants
to get some tape because he wants to get a
(01:02:50):
job next year. That's basically going to These players are
not gonna tak I didn't see the Cleveland Browns last
year unless last night tank. I saw the play. Maybe
it was a sixty minute game. They played fifty five
good minutes of football last night. They're not tanking. They're
playing for their lives because they know there may be
a clean sweep of many of those players, and they
(01:03:11):
want to get their game on tape so they can
get a job. They don't tank, am I correct?
Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
Yeah, No, they're not gonna tank. Everyone's playing for their livelihood.
Everything is evaluated not only with the team that you're for,
the team that you're with, but for every team in
the league.
Speaker 4 (01:03:25):
They put a grade on you.
Speaker 2 (01:03:27):
And if you put bad tape out there, your chances
of playing and staying in the league are not going
to be great. You got to put great stuff out there,
and it starts with how hard you play. Then it's
the execution, the talent that you bring, all of those things.
But every time you're out, you evaluate it and it's
in your best interest to play well if you want
to stick around. You don't have the luxury of being
able to give things away and have people say like, oh,
(01:03:49):
don't worry about that they were intentionally trying to lose.
Speaker 4 (01:03:52):
Doesn't work like that.
Speaker 1 (01:03:53):
I'm with you right there, Okay, you got the Jacks
at the cult. I think the Jazz kidding number five today,
Anthony Richardson, he's out with a bad back, and I
think I think that you know that Colts team just
just dismal. What other work can you say this dismal.
I expected more from the Colts Jacksonville. Basically the ownership
said they're gonna be the best team they ever had,
but didn't work out that way. I would think this
(01:04:14):
right now, both of these coaches may be playing coaching
their last game today to.
Speaker 4 (01:04:19):
Be tough, tough for both both teams.
Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
Expectations can get everybody, and expectations have certainly gotten the Jaguars,
and they'll get the Colts for saying stick and the
expectation that he would be able to fix Anthony Richardson.
That could be the decision that really cost him his job.
Could not get the young guy on track, benched them,
set him down in an effort to try and show
them how to be more professional. That hasn't changed the
(01:04:41):
results of the bottom line. I don't know, man, I
don't know where they potentially can go from there. And
when you look at them, and then you look at
the Jacks and the amount of losing they've had over
the last year and a half, it points to a
bigger issue.
Speaker 4 (01:04:55):
It's not just a coaching issue.
Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
When you have like the high number of like one
score losses or things where they fail to execute in
the end a little bit something has to speak to
the coaching staff.
Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
Yeah, I'm with you at theeah. Okay, now we've got
some meat here, got a little meat on the bone
here with this game. The Saints are five and eleven.
They're playing in the Tampa Bay nine and seven. Okay
for the Tampa Bay Bucks. If they win, they will
get a fourth consecutive NFC title, which is amazing to me.
Tampa Bay has scored twenty five or more points in
five of the last six games, which is tremendous. Now
(01:05:27):
we talk about MVP. I don't know why, and he's
not gonna get it, but I think his name should
be somewhat in the conversation. Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield has
seventy one point seven percent completion average percentage. He's passed
for forty two hundred plus yards, thirty nine touchdowns, fifteen
a mts, and a quarterback rating of one oh seven
point six. A guy who want to to write off.
(01:05:48):
He's like the second coming of Sam Donald. Sam Donald's
following the footsteps of Baker Mayfield. It's the system, perhaps,
maybe it's the players, maybe it's the coaching staff, but
Baker Mayfield's got a new life in Tampa Bay.
Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
He does have a new life in to have a Bay.
Give him credit, Give him credit for bouncing back. Hats
off to them in a new environment. People that believe
you can do so much for your player. I just,
you know, look at this team and just think about
how they've been over to overcome so much, lose Chris Godwin,
have to change the offense. They go from you know,
(01:06:21):
being able to spread it out, so now it's more
one dimensional with Mike Evans in the passing game while
developing a running game that's punishing and physical. Yeah, give
Baker ray Field a lot of credit. If we had
the rank top ten guys in the MVP race, he's
certainly in there. I don't know how much close he
can inch towards the top, but he deserves credit for
a season that he's put together and.
Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
He's sort of changed. He was a little bit of
a cocky man. Maybe I don't see much of him,
but maybe I'm wrong, but I remember he was real cocky.
Certainly cocky is a collegiate player, and I look cocky
when he came into the league. I think he's kind
of like pushed that back a little bit. I think
he Uh, he sucked it up a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:06:56):
Oh yeah, the cockinists is still there. The humility is there,
so he knows how to turn it on and turn
it off.
Speaker 4 (01:07:06):
Within the inner circle. He has him a long way.
Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
And this is why it is important for people to
give young people a chance to fully develop, you know,
to give young players a chance to fully develop and
see what they could be down the line.
Speaker 4 (01:07:22):
And we've seen with Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
If we gave up on them early in the year
like so many we're talking about it, or gave up
on him like before last season and didn't believe in
his talent, we never get this kind of story. Typically,
if someone is drafted in the first round, the drafted
there for a reason. Your job as coaches is to
make sure you put them in a position where they
can realize all their talent and potential.
Speaker 1 (01:07:44):
Interesting, all right, the Panthers are four and twelve. The
Falcons are eight and eight. Now the Falcon is a
little bit of a disappointment this year. Is not doubt
about that. They need to beat Carolina today and they
got to also hope that the Tampa Bay Bucks lose.
If that happens, they will win the NFC South and
gain a playoff spot. And again since week number eight,
(01:08:05):
Bryce Young, quarterback of Carolina, he's looked pretty good. I
mean he's coming along right now about developing. I think
he looks pretty good. But I think there's more to
gain for the Falcons today. Again, they gotta look at
the scoreboard and see what's going on with Tampa Bay
a little bit of a disappointment now and they rush
the backup quarterback, their rookie quarterback. We'll see what happens
at eight and eight. But you got to believe there's
(01:08:26):
more on the line for Atlanta. So I think Atlanta
takes this game. I think they're a better team anyway.
Speaker 4 (01:08:31):
Yeah, they are a better team. There's a lot on
the line.
Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
Michael Pennis needs to show and prove we would continue
to see him make strides as a franchise quarterback. We
saw the flashes at the end of the game when
he's able to come through with some clutch playmaking.
Speaker 4 (01:08:41):
Let's see if he picks up where he left off.
Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
In terms of the other stuff, Man, you're playing it out,
You're trying to play harder, trying to put good stuff
on tape because we all are going to be free
agents at some point. The more that you put good
stuff on tape, the more likely you are to not
only have another opportunity, but to get paid while chasing
a second chance.
Speaker 1 (01:09:00):
The Texans are playing at Tennessee, OK. A very disappointing
year for the Tennessee Titans. However, they did beat the
Texans when they played in Houston earlier this year. The Titans,
I understand now they're using two quarterbacks today. What's the
deal on that? Why would the coach use two quarterbacks?
And who are they were to be? Will Levis and
Mason Rudolph. Are they the quarterbacks? I don't even know
(01:09:20):
what the quarterbacks would be in Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (01:09:23):
Yeah, no, they look they're struggling. They're struggling all around.
I know they're disappointed. They thought Will Levis would be
able to do it. He hasn't been able to play
at the level of expectation. And you know, Mason Rudolph
has his own limitation. This is a team they likes
an elite quarterback prospect, so they have to.
Speaker 4 (01:09:41):
Figure it out.
Speaker 2 (01:09:42):
They'll play hard and it's a rivalry game and you
can never dismiss one of the teams.
Speaker 4 (01:09:48):
Limping into the.
Speaker 2 (01:09:50):
Postseason just because you're not ready to play and the
other team takes restorm.
Speaker 4 (01:09:53):
This is one of those times.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
Look put it the look for Tennessee to put it
together and play their best performance of the year.
Speaker 1 (01:10:01):
I will say this the next game I Scott will
be my first. Okay, but I watched these teams that
watched these players, and I got my opinion. But most
of the time it's wrong. And I watched Will Lovis
when he played at Kentucky. I didn't think he was
that good of a quarterback then. I really didn't, so
they drafted him in the NFL. What do they expect
out of this guy? However, I will tell you this much.
I watched Mason Rudolf at Oklahoma State. I thought he
(01:10:23):
was wonderful. I really did, and I'm very surprised that
he hasn't really made it in the National Football there.
I thought he'd make it in Pittsburgh. They were quarterback hungry,
they needed a quarterback. They let him go. I thought
he'd get a shot in Tennessee and never really got
that big shot. I just think that Mason Rudolph has
got talent. I think he can make it in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (01:10:42):
I mean I thought he was gonna be a much
better player.
Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
I remember going to steal word her to watch him,
watch him through and watch him play. He had a
lot of talent, just never really materializing. He said, look,
nothing wrong with being a career backup, make a lot
of money. Yeah, but he never became the frontline player
that many envisioned, which is why he has moustonical but
different teams.
Speaker 1 (01:11:00):
All right, speaking about bouncing around, I mean theyir coach
in Chicago. They're gonna need another coach and be bouncing
around for a coach. The Bears are playing at Green
Bay today. Caleb Williams right now, seventy eight sacks or
seven sacks last week? I'm sorry, sixty seven sacks this
year on Chicago Bears. What's the deal? I mean, if
I'm Caleb Williams, I mean I want to build a
wall in front of me. I mean, protect the guy.
(01:11:23):
I mean we talked about what the LA Chargers did
in the draft with Alt. I mean, basically they've got
an offensive player alignment to protect the quarterback. I know,
certainly the running game is key, and that's what Harbar loves.
But you want to get a guy, you got to
draft a top notch quarterback, a franchise quarterback. Protect the guy.
(01:11:43):
I mean, the guy's been sacked sixty seven times. It's
got to hurt his play. It's gotta be a mental
thing that you know, he's gun shy. He just afraid.
He has no time to do anything.
Speaker 4 (01:11:53):
Look here.
Speaker 2 (01:11:54):
But then I put some of that on him. You
have to break down the reel and look at what
he's doing. Yeah, the offensive line is not a plus caliber,
but he also is holding onto the ball an explordinary
amount of time. He has to get rid of the football,
and that was one of the challenges in evaluating him.
He did a bunch of wonderful stuff. People talk about
Pat Mahomes like and all that. All that is great,
(01:12:15):
but the National Football League is about playing on time
and on schedule. He does not play on time, and
it's hard to build an offense for a quarterback that
doesn't play within the rhythm and the natural rhythm and
flow of the offense.
Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
What does that mean? Playing on time? I'm stupid.
Speaker 2 (01:12:31):
So playing on time so the routes are coordinated with
the drop that the quarterback takes in the pocket. So,
for instance, if I'm throwing quick games. So like bubble screen,
quick slant five yard hitch to the quarterback is catch throw,
ball comes out. If it's an intermediate route like ten
to twelve yards and maybe catching three. So the quarterback
(01:12:53):
catches it, he should take three steps back. When he
hits the top of his drop, the ball should come
out and at that point the receiver should be a
twelve fourteen yards work in their maneuver. Well, what Caleb
does is he'll look and he may like it, he
may not. He'll pause, it's like I can't get there.
Speaker 4 (01:13:09):
So then he take three.
Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
More steps back and he'll look to the left, or
he'll just start scrambling around and it becomes a game
full of sandlot football. Hard to win that unless you
have superior talent everywhere, and they don't. So this is
a team that needs to be a little more doubt
and a little more focused, and so they tend to
get the right kind of players to do it. But
(01:13:32):
for Caleb, it's about man be on time and then
if the magic happens where you have to go off
the script and.
Speaker 4 (01:13:39):
So be it. But don't live for the down every
down to be a sandlot down.
Speaker 1 (01:13:44):
Hi, I thank you for explaining that to me, And
now I know, all right, you're at the forty nine
ers are playing in Arizona playing the Cardinals. Forty nine
has got sixteen players than I are. I mean, I
don't know how that happens. You know, if they're gonna
fire anybody, they want to fire the training staff, they
it really will be to do something there. Something's wrong really,
the training, I mean the physical well being. Something's wrong
(01:14:05):
to have sixteen players than I are. But I still
think they're good enough to beat the Cardinals because Kyler Murray,
the Cardinals quarterback, he's nothing more than an interception machine
right now. I mean he's just out of control. I
don't get it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:18):
Yeah, anytime you have that many turnovers and bad plays
like it makes it hard.
Speaker 4 (01:14:23):
And I don't know where he lost his confidence and
all of that.
Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
But you're right, the Niners don't have anybody up and
ready to play, but they have enough veterans that want
to play well and want to show the young guys
how to play. The big issue is the quarterback, Rock
Perdy not being there. We can talk about a lot
of things and how they can make anybody great. Yeah,
Brock Perdy's on a different left when it comes to
those guys.
Speaker 1 (01:14:46):
There we go, all right, he's Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy Furman.
This is Fox Football Sunday. Oh Fox, what's ready? But
don't look now, Bucky, don't look now. You got competition
ba barrel betting. It's freaking next bya barrel betting right

top of the hour. This is Fox Football Sunday of Fox.
Bu's ready. We'll live at the tire Rock dot Com studios.

It's bottomtom.
Speaker 3 (01:15:13):
To sleep.
Speaker 1 (01:15:13):
People, get my money. I'll put your brain to sleep
all right. Time to suck up a little bit. You
know there's only one guy could handle this game. It's
the birthday boy himself, the one and only Shay Shay Shay.
Speaker 3 (01:15:25):
How you guys doing?
Speaker 1 (01:15:26):
Happy birthday Darling?
Speaker 3 (01:15:27):
Thank you guys? Whoa guys is too nice?
Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
I got to kiss up a little bit. I'm breathing down.
I'm breathing on Bucky's neck. That's what I'm doing.
Speaker 3 (01:15:36):
Oh, I mean you know what this makes. Saying this
make me feel horrible right now? Andy, But you had
a hot streak. Gun they had three weeks in a row.
Unfortunately you couldn't make it four weeks in a row,
and Bucky takes it three to two this week, making
the overall score Bucky forty two and Andy thirty eight.
(01:15:59):
So you are still close, Sandy.
Speaker 1 (01:16:01):
So I'm like the Bengals a little bit, you know.
Speaker 4 (01:16:04):
But it's a new year. Don't we reset the clock.
We just flipped the calendar.
Speaker 3 (01:16:08):
I think we're going to go until the end of football,
Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (01:16:12):
Superillup, we're going to the end of the thing.
Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
Oh, because I just made a New Year's resolution that
I was gonna start concentrating, be really focused.
Speaker 1 (01:16:20):
Not now you're gonna start You tell you were playing
with me up till now right what you're saying.
Speaker 3 (01:16:25):

don't know if you're playing with.
Speaker 2 (01:16:31):
You Yeah, yeah, yeah, pause, I'll just yeah. But now
I'm locked in and I'm focused, so, uh, you may
not get any more dubs.
Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
Wow, let's get it done.
