Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is Straight Fire with Jason McIntyre.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
What is up? Straight firefam, It's me Jason McIntyre, Straight
Fire for Tuesday, January fourteenth, and oh boy boy, do
we have a podcast today? As if there wasn't enough
craziness in the NFL. Monday, with Jerry Jones and Mike
McCarthy parting ways, we had another snoozefest of a playoff
(00:34):
game with the Vikings no showing in Arizona against the
Rams in a twenty seven to nine beatdown that never
felt remotely close. My guy, Sam Darnold. We'll get to
that shortly. Obviously, we'll do Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy
(00:54):
splitting up. But how could you get over what the
Rams did to the Vikings? Now? Listen, I'm not one
to toot my own, of course I am, But holy cow,
did I smoke this weekend? I said the game I
like most from the outset was the Rams a lot
of pushback. I did back off of them a little
bit in the gushiness on the Herd on Monday, because listen,
(01:15):
the game got moved. You know, I don't know what
the Rams players are dealing with in terms of families
and relocation and evacuation. I didn't know, so that uncertainty
kind of got me nervous. I didn't buy out of
my beds, but I was just like, all right, I'm
not going to add to what was already a pretty
significant position on the Rams. I didn't need to worry
about anything. Harmy. Rams come down the field, get the ball,
bing bang boom, touchdown, Look great McVeigh grabs a lead
(01:39):
in four minutes, and you're like, okay, Rams and Sam
Donald go three and out and it was not good.
Donald got the first of nine sacks that he absorbed.
Oh my god. Donald sacks six times in the first half,
most of any quarterback in a playoff game in the
last twenty five years years. Okay, Rams, come right down,
(02:02):
got a field goal. Vikings finally answer with a field goal,
and then Donald threw a bad pick. There was the
Stafford kind of a lot of people were complaining it
was a fumble, scoop and score, but it was not.
It was very clear Puko was right there and I
know he was like on his way down, but Stafford
got rid of it. And then what really crushed the
Vikings was Sam Donald getting drilled. And I mean drilled
(02:27):
in the pocket. I'm trying to see who hit him.
It was Oh Witherspoon coming on the defensive back blitz
recovered by Verse and Jared Verse. The young fella, he
can move. That guy's got a motor. And when he
runs it back with four minutes left in the half
at seventeen three, you knew that was a wrap. You
(02:47):
knew it was over at that point seventeen three. Vikings
are a team. And I had this stat that I
don't know if I said on the pod or on
the herd, but nobody took more snaps this season when
leading than the Minnesota Vikings. They are a great front
run flores unleashes the blitz, they come after you. That
wasn't the case tonight. They trailed the entire way. The
(03:08):
Vikings went down and turned it over on downs after that,
and then the Rams came down and scored a short
field touchdown and at twenty four to three, it was over.
There was like zero action in the second half except
Darnold on his back more and more, and it was
an impressive performance. Stafford was solid, Kyron Williams was good,
you know, Pooka was fine. Cooper Cup had one catch.
(03:32):
I mean, the Rams did not need to do much
once they got that lead. They're just riding Kyraen Williams,
a little dose of Ronnie Rivers.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
It was.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
It was another boring playoff game. I saw this stat
last year's wildcard games, which were awful. The average margin
of victory was seventeen points per game. This year, the
average margin was fifteen, a little bit closer. The Rams.
They were not amazing by the way, the Rams, they
were not outstanding. They got the early lead and make said,
let's power down. The Vikings got to the red zone
(04:03):
just once. I mean, just unbelievable. And now the Rams
set up with a trip to Philadelphia in what should
be a very good matchup. Now, I saw six and
a half last night when the line opened, let me
see what we're looking at now. But as soon as
the line came out, I was like, Okay, well, you
(04:25):
know that's another teaser leg. That's kind of enticing. And
if you want a factor in the college football game,
Ohio State Notre Dame six six and a half point teaser, guys,
takes you under seven in three of the I'm sorry,
four of the five games, if you include the college
football game. The Ravens Bills game is a toss up,
(04:45):
although Ravens money's showing. I'm a little surprised by that
the game is in Buffalo. I guess people just think
that that Ravens run game is going to be too
powerful for Buffalo. I don't know that I'm gonna be
going against Josh Allen in that spot. But Rams currently
six and a half point dogs in Philly. We know
this was a rematch from I think they played this year.
(05:07):
The Eagles are just they're a tough team, you know
when they run that football, and the Rams run defense
was extremely sus earlier this year. Let me see, yeah,
it was this year. I remember that I was on
the Eagles. That was That was no sweat whatsoever. That
was the game where Saquon Barkley rush for two hundred
and fifty five yards in a scintillating performance. The Rams
just got carved up. Jalen Hurts was good. AJ Brown
(05:30):
had a big game. It was. That was a beat
down of epic proportions. The Eagles had They just the
Rams had no answer. But mild dude, this is a
this is a different Rams team. There. They were at
the time five and five, the Eagles were eight and
two in rolling the Rams now are cooking with gas. Okay,
this team, this play caller, this quarterback, they've been here before.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Okay, if you remove the week eighteen lost to Seattle
when they played all backups, and I have no problems
swapping that game out. They beat the Cardinals, they beat
the Jets, they beat the Niners, they beat the Bills,
they beat the Saints. They essentially haven't lost since that
Eagles game. And I think the one big edge they
(06:17):
have over the Eagles. I mean, you know, obviously Stafford
and Hurts, we can go back and forth on those two.
They're probably equal to the stage. Hurts obviously much better running quarterback,
should be elusive in the pocket against this Rams pressure.
But I just can't get over Sirianni versus McVeigh. Now,
Rams are gonna be on a short week, They're gonna
have to travel across the country. It's gonna be cold
(06:40):
in Philly, probably not Buffalo cold, which is gonna be
in the teens apparently teens, low twenties. Oh my gosh,
at night two. So I'm excited for Rams Eagles. I
think we'll see I don't have a bet on it yet,
but I think it's a you know, if you like
the Eagles, it's a great teaser leg. I don't trust Sirianni,
but I do trust Saque Barkley. Now let's get to
Sam Donald, and I'm not going to crush the guy here.
(07:02):
You guys don't own a Sam Donald guy. I still
remember that Rose Bowl. He was amazing for USC and
the Jets luck into him because Baker went one. I
believe Saquon went two, and then Donald went three and
I was a static and then Donald in his first game,
I think his first pass was a pick six at
(07:23):
the Lions. The Jets end up winning by like twenty.
But then that season, I'm pretty sure it was that
season he was seeing ghosts. Something you couldn't live down.
I mean, he had the mono because he was going
out the bars and hooking up with chicks, like you know,
he's a young guy and it just didn't work. From
in New York, then he gets a bit of a
rebirth with Shanahan. He was solid in Carolina and then
(07:47):
he goes to the Vikings, has a career year. Everybody
says he's in line to make a metric ton of money.
And what do you think happens? Week eighteen? Win and
you get the number one seed and he craps his
pants against the Vikings. It was ugly, he was bad
and the book was out in that game, Brian Flores.
If you make Donald hold the ball, if you can
(08:09):
confuse him, he doesn't process quickly in the pocket, it's
tough for him to come off that first read, second read,
third read. At that point he gets happy feet in
the pocket, he gets nervous, doesn't want to make a mistake,
spraying the ball all over the place. And he had
an interception against the Rams, a fumble return for a touchdown,
sacked nine times. And listen, you can blame the offensive line. Sure,
(08:30):
I don't really care. Sure. Bottom line is Donald was
not good last week. He was not good this week.
You could see the frustration from Justin Jefferson, just not
getting the ball. Five catches, fifty eight yards and you know,
I know everybody's Oh, he cost himself a forty million dollars.
At whatever he cost himself a lot of money, somebody's
(08:51):
going to pay him. It is a numbers game, and
there just are not enough quarterbacks for teams. Now, I
think the real question becomes, is Sam Arnold closer to
what Ryan Fitzpatrick was? Is the Gino Smith? Who would
you rather have under center? And this is a real question,
Kyler Murray or Sam Donald? And I know the instinct
(09:13):
is to say, well, Kyler Murray, you want a heistin
and I got a number one overall pick What the
hell has Kyler Murray done in this league? I'm being real,
what has he done Sam Donald had? I would believe
I would argue that this season Sam Donald had full season,
is better than any full season Kyler Murray's had. And
then you can play the argument, well, who would Kyler
Murray have? Who's his coach? Cliff Kingsbury not a bad coach.
(09:38):
I honestly don't know. I don't know what you do
with Donald. I think the Vikings obviously move on. My
guess would be if Ben Johnson lands in Vegas, and
it sounds like Ben Johnson is interested in Chicago. I
don't think it's gonna happen because he wants a certain GM.
I think the Raiders are more than willing. They moved
out their GMS, So my guest would be Ben Johnson
(09:59):
land with the Raiders Ben Jonson is going to need
a quarterback. If you need a bridge quarterback for a year.
You don't think Sam Donald can do some things. He's
better than Gardner Minshew, He's better than they. O'Connell. I
just don't see Sam Donald being in Minnesota next year
as a backup. I think Daniel Jones, who was inactive
last night, I think he's probably the backup. And I
(10:20):
think JJ McCarthy's the guy. And you guys can sell
your Viking stock. I will gladly gobble that up because
I'm a believer in Kevin O'Connell. I just I don't
know what JJ McCarthy is, but I do know what
Sam Donald was. And Sam Donald had some moments this year,
no doubt about it. That game against the Packers late
in December. It was December, it might have been last
week of December. He was outstanding, like, whoa can this
(10:43):
team do some damage? And then you see him against
the Lions and yat zups and now you trot him
out here against the Rams and you know Rams are
a different team than they were. This is a team
that gets better as the season goes on. I like
sometimes to compare sports teams to the teams coach. You
know my kids in youth sports and what I'm doing
(11:05):
with both of the teams now, And I've talked to
the assistant coaches. I'm like, listen, we're not gonna unveil everything.
We're gonna say some stuff for the playoffs. You know,
we don't need to against some of these teams that
aren't as good in our you know, middle school basketball league.
And I believe Sean. I think McVeigh was doing something similar,
(11:25):
like why am I unloading everything early in the season.
Now he had a great game against Detroit in the opener,
they lose in overtime, and then they get shelled the
next week. Pooka's hurt. It was a disaster. He was
treading water forever. Now he's got all his guys healthy.
You know, you trust Stafford in a big spot, and
he Stafford looked like a solid quarterback. Can he go
into Fillion win? I don't know, but my guess would
(11:48):
be the market for Darnald is probably if we are
to assume cam Ward and Shaduer go one two in
some capacity, that's did leaves the Raiders without a quarterback,
And I think Donald makes the most sense there there
is the obvious. Hey, maybe the Jets move on from
(12:11):
Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Rodgers lands in Vegas. I suppose
that's a possibility. I don't slimmer slim slim chances on
that one. I would guess, because you think Rogers is
gonna go back to the He's gonna want to stay
in the AFC, go back to another team. This is
very Farvian of him, so I don't. I don't know.
(12:32):
I would also say the Indianapolis Colts could be in
play with stichen they're not drafting anywhere near the top.
Anthony Richardson, I don't. He did not improve at all
this year. I think I do believe cam and shoudorgo
one too. I'm seeing some people saying, like Jackson Dart
from Ole miss what about him? I'm like, come on,
are we that reaching guys? I know some teams are desperate,
(12:54):
but holy hell, I don't see Donald going back to
the Big Apple for Jets or Giants. So I would
put it at Indianapolis Colts. I don't know exactly what's
gonna happen with the Saints and Derek Carr. It sounds
like he's in I'm not taking a pay cut mode,
which is fine, or they could just dump him out
right and have Donald is going to be a fine
(13:15):
Bridge quarterback somewhere. And the spiciest one would be if
the Niner, if brock Perty's like, I want fifty mil
or I'm out, and they say, well, we can get
Sam Donald for who can produce eighty five percent of
which you can at half the cost. He's Sam Donald's
probably gonna get a Baker Mayfield type deal thirty thirty
(13:36):
five million dollars. And I guess I wouldn't rule out
san franstance. They know what he is, and you're buying
low right because he was so putrid. But Shanahan knows
what he's capable of. So there's gould be a landing
spot for Donald. He didn't cost himself everything. Yeah, he's
not gonna be a fifty million dollar quarterback, but I
think that was that was bouldered ash anyway, fifty mil
for Sam Donald. Guys, come on off one season again.
(13:59):
People get all excited after one shitty Justin Herbert performance
or one awful game from Jordan Love. Oh wow, we
don't know if he's going. And I tried to explain
this yesterday, like, let's just be let's be rational in
comm Sam Darnold has what five six years under his belt.
Now he had one really really good season and it
(14:20):
looks like an outlier. All right, Let's get to the
other big news. The Dallas Cowboys ship be sinking.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Right. So, in other NFL news, the huge story on
Monday that broke right around noon, the Dallas Cowboys and
Mike McCarthy could not agree on a contract length and
they've parted ways. And this is just another example. This
was a bombshell, I thought, another example of Jerry Jones
thinking he's smarter than every someone else. He totally completely
(15:02):
butchered the Dak Prescott negotiations. Ended up having to make
him the highest paid quarterback because he waited so long
last week. Regarding McCarthy, he was like, no, Bears, you
can't talk to McCarthy. You can't because we want to
keep him. So then they get to the negotiating table
and it's pretty quickly. Yeah, I want X amount of
(15:22):
years in the Cowboys. We're like, we're not going there,
all right, I'm gonna go in a different direction. Here's
the biggest problem for Jerry. He messed this up so
badly that I think the pool of candidates in Dallas
is massively small. A. He's got to get to the
back of the line for any of the coordinators he wants.
B he may not get to talk to Ben Johnson
(15:44):
or Aaron Glenn, assuming they'll talk to him until after
they play in I think it's the Super Bowl, I
could be the NFC Championship or Super Bowl, because there
was a window to set up interviews with them and
he blew it. According to Jordan Schultz, this is just
such an embarrassment for the Cowboys. And now it's instantly like, Okay,
could we get link at Riley, Can we get Steve Sarkushan?
(16:07):
What about Belichick? Can we lure him from UNC? And
I'm just sitting here laughing, like I don't even think
this is a great job. Again, I think a lot
of it hinges upon the owner Slash GM, who loves
to talk to the media real quick. Rob g who
is the owner of the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Is it Art Modell?
Speaker 2 (16:31):
I actually don't know the answer, Sash of probably, but
it's like that you don't know because he doesn't go
do interviews all the time. Who is the new owner
of the Washington Commanders. It is the guy who came
from the Sixers, Harris maybe yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
And then Magic John's a part of the group.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Magic john'son part of that. Who is the Well, we
know the Buffalo Bells because they've been a factor for
many years. But most of these really good teams, the
owners aren't piping up every week during the regular season,
muddling the.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
By the way quickly, Art Modell is dead.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
So yeah, I was way yeah, yeah, so way way
off on that one.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
I don't know, Rob. It's just one of these situations
where Jerry Jones keeps screwing up, and I think last
week he dug in his heels and was he he
was like, I'm the owner of this team. I'm not
taking a step back, and he's doing he's doing cameos
on Landman, which is a great show, and it's just like, okay, well,
good luck. I have no idea where this thing starts.
(17:27):
I mean, what are you gonna kick the tires on
Liam Cohen. I just I don't know what Dallas is doing.
I actually think McCarthy is gonna be the new bell
of the ball Vrabels to the Patriots. Meaning there's a
lot of chatter around rob Gie's Raiders having some kind
of wing handshake deal with Ben Johnson and then that
GM he wants to bring in whatever his name is,
who I believe is in Washington or somewhere, but he's
(17:50):
gonna be maybe Minnesota. He's gonna be going to the Raiders.
That's the chatter at least. So that leaves for McCarthy Jets,
Bears saying Jags. I think the best quarterback in that
group is Trevor Lawrence, which isn't saying much. Caleb is
probably two car is three, and you know, I don't
think he's gonna want to reunite with Rogers. But if
(18:11):
the Jets want to run off Aaron Rodgers go hire
Mike McCarthy, that would be a fun subplot. So I
think McCarthy's gonna have options. I don't know that he's
a great fit for the Bears, but this is where
it gets really interesting, rob So we need your thoughts
on what the Cowboys should do and where McCarthy lands.
But I'll throw this curveball. I personally, we talked about
(18:35):
Mike Tomlin yesterday. I don't think he's going. I think
it's silly. I think it would be dumb to move off
of him. That being said, if you are Bears, Jets, sayings, etc.
Do you wait to see what happens with Tomlin before
going after McCarthy. And then the second layer of that
is would Tomlin go to Dallas? And I would lean
(18:59):
note that would be my guess. I know nothing about Tomlin,
but just from a fit if I think if Tomlin's
going anywhere, he's gonna go to a place where he
can win like instantly, and I don't think you can
do that in Dallas. Or maybe Tomlins just goes to
TV and then McCarthy gets his pick. But so many
moving parts NFL never adult fricking moment.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
Well, Jason, the simple answers what they should do is
they should fire the general manager. But they're not going
to because the general manager also owns the team and
he is one of those guys who believes that you know,
I'm God's gift to football. So if anybody can fix
this team. It's me. I think he's actually gone on
record saying no single person could be a better general manager,
better general manager for the Cowboys than I could shut
(19:39):
out Jerry Jones. And if that's off the table, I
think that there are two obvious neither one of them great,
but obvious answers. Mike Tomlin and again we talked about
Mike tom yesterday. I think Mike Tomas a really good coach.
The problem is the word out of Pittsburgh, acording to
the Post Caauzette, they are gonna run it back with
him again for next year. Whether that's a good idea,
(20:02):
you know you'd be the jail on that one. But
the biggest issue is that if you were to get
Mike tom like, you'd have to trade for him. And
the Dallas Cowboys, as we saw this season, have a very,
very very top heavy roster. They cannot afford to be
giving up first, second, third round picks for a coach,
especially a coach who does not call offense or defensive signals.
(20:23):
That leads to option B one that you mentioned quickly,
Bill Belichick. According to Jordan Schultz Fox Sports, Belichick would
have been very interested in the Cowboys job if he
had known it would become available. And that's part of
the reason why he took the UNC job because through
his back channel communications, his agent talking to this agent
(20:43):
and talk to that agent, YadA, YadA, YadA, he was
under the impression that the Cowboys job was not going
to be open, that Mike McCarthy had done enough to
save his job. That ended up being the incorrect answer.
Later on a few hours after the Shultz report, CBS
Sports comes out and says, yeah, Belichick would be at
the top of their list, assuming that he's willing to
(21:04):
back out of his UNC deal. Now I know the
law's been made about the buyout, that it's ten million
if it's done before June first, and it's one million
if it's done after Andy had The problem with Belichick
is outside of him being old, and you know what
comes along with that. Who's how much power he might
want from Jerry Jones. How much Jerry's gonna want to
give to him. Is he seems to be a loyal guy,
(21:26):
Like if he was ever gonna yeah, like he could
have buy all accounts. He could have had the Raiders
job last week if he wanted it, and he met
with Tom Brady, to the fact that Tom Brady was
gonna quote bend the knee to talk to Belichick because
I know things went bad with those in New England.
I need a guy who's gonna write the ship. You're
the guy. And he's like, you know what, I already
started recruiting. I already signed some kids. I'm gonna stay here.
(21:50):
I'm building something here in UNC and it means something
to him on a personal level. So if those two
guys are off the table, to your point, I think
you what you go to the college ranks, because who
in their right mind that is a good coach. If
you're a Ben Jonson, if you're an Aaron Glenn, you're
gonna have to wait through this whole process to get
the interview. Number one. Number two, you're gonna go somewhere
(22:11):
where you have no say you have no relationship with
the GM because the owner is the GM, and you're
known across league circles as basically a figurehead head coach.
So I don't know if you're gonna be able to
get a top of the market guy, especially this late
in the game.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Yeah, I would say zero percent chance on Belichick. I
mean I honestly, don't think the Cowboys is a better
job than UNC. Like at this. Yeah, if you want
to be famous and have your face all over TV
and have high profile games, what's that worth to Belichick?
He's won in billion Super Bowls? You think he cares about?
I don't think there's anything there. And the ges interesting
(22:50):
is where do you go after that? Right? You want
to go big game hunting? Fine, you wi on Belichick?
Ben Johnson's gives you the stuff arm So where do
you go?
Speaker 3 (22:59):
Do you to?
Speaker 1 (23:00):
Steve Sarkisian, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk
lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at
Foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search
FSR to listen live.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
And then I'll ask you this, would you rather coach
arch Manning next year in the SEC or Dak Prescott
in the NFC East? And I'll be honest, I kind
of want to see what.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
Our test did.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
I kind of want to see what our tast to offer.
I don't. I don't see a lot of people the
Cowboys that just bungled this. Listen, the window was there.
They won eleven games for three straight seasons, made the playoffs,
hosted two playoff games, maybe three, I don't. Bottom line
is they got smacked around by the Packers, they lost
(23:45):
to the Niners. They went on the road and lost
to the Niners. The window was there and now Dak
you know, injured. It just seems like it's falling apart.
They got to get a new coach. I'm seeing wacky
names online rob nothing credible or good. Like what about
Pete Carroll? Does that do anything for you?
Speaker 3 (24:02):
Not? Particularly?
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Yeah, it's like that would be like a Golden Girl's
reboot with Jerry Jones and Pete Carroll.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Like, come on, can I tell you what I think
they're gonna do again? Not what I would have done,
because I've done is in order. What I listened to.
What I think they're gonna do is hire Kellen Moore
because who else is checking for the Dallas Cowboys job
that's worth their salt at this stay?
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Hold on? Did they run off Kellen Moore?
Speaker 3 (24:28):
They did. I don't know that he's going, But you know,
here's the thing. This is one of those things that,
like the Rabel going to New England, made a lot
of sense because to them, it matters that he's a patriot,
that he knows the Patriot, even if he said he
kind of distanced himself during his pressover he's like, hey,
I want to remove the entitlement from being a Patriot
and I want to get back to football. Like he's
saying the right things, But anybody who covers that team
(24:51):
with say that Rabel being a Patriots guy matter to Craft.
Jerry Jones being a cowboy matters to him. So he's gonnait, Hey,
you played for us, you called plays for US. Dak
Prescott likes you. There's a lot of familiarity, and you
don't have any other options that are better than this
(25:11):
quote unquote. You'n not get know the head coaching, gay
were else, So you'll be willing to concede. No front
office say, no say on trade, no say on contracts,
because you know that's not your role. Your role is
to call on offense. So that if I were to bet,
I would bet on Kellen Moore.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
So I'm reading about what happened to Kellen Moore and
Troy Aikman claims he got run off by McCarthy who
wanted to be more hands on on the offense. So
it's possible that it did not end ugly with Kellen
Moore and Jerry Jones. That being said, does that have
does that have like a whiff of the Lakers or
the Lakers we go to hire a Laker, you know,
(25:49):
so who how has that worked out for them?
Speaker 3 (25:52):
Like?
Speaker 2 (25:53):
Not great?
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Not great?
Speaker 2 (25:55):
And like this idea that we got to hire someone
who's part of the family, that that's just an archaic
way of doing things. I don't know. I mean, is
it gonna be fascinating? I think it'll be really crazy
if Tomlin gets run off, But like you said, I
don't see that happening. Where do you think McCarthy ends
up Chicago.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
I think he'd be great in Chicago.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
In that division.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
Yet revenge on the Packers absolutely, And I think if
anybody can fix the Ruby or solve the Rubis cube,
that is Caleb Williams. It's him because a lot of
the issues that we saw from Caleb this I know,
the counting stats look fine, but all the issues that
we saw from holds the ball too long, doesn't necessarily
see the field too well, thinks he's a better athlete
than what he is the reality. Those are all things
(26:42):
that even his most staunch defenders were saying those were
issues he had in college. So if he's gonna go
somewhere and he's gonna have a coach that's going to
get him to reach the potential that he has, it's
got to be somebody who has a history of working
with athletic quarterbacks. Check Mike McCarthy, a history of working
with mercurial quarterbacks, check Mike McCarthy. And a guy who
knows how to build a culture about football, which Mike
(27:05):
McCarthy dies. Even with that whole circus in Dallas the
last few years, to your point, he was winning double
digit games every year up until this season.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
I feel like the talent isn't there. I looked at
the age of rosters and they're twenty first in age
in the league, so they're getting a little older. Yep,
eight of the top ten youngest teams in the league
made the playoffs. Because the new model is get like
the Rams, get a couple of superstars that are top heavy,
and then just surround it with a bunch of young
(27:34):
guys because they're cheap. And it feels like Dallas has
not really done that. And I guess some of that's
on Jerry for whipping in the UH in the draft
so often. Yeah, that's that's a spicy way to start
the week, for sure. I don't I wonder if anything
else will ow, I've Toalblin's really the only other one
(27:55):
I suppose we Well, no, I don't even know any
other he would have to lose this coming weekend. They
didn't look great in the opener against the Packers. What
do you think of McDermott lays an egg at home?
Any chance they run him off?
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Oh, I mean he's already run off everybody else, so
I don't know who else there would be, right, Yeah?
They I mean they were seeing just Leslie Frazier, bunch
of defensive players, Like, who else is there to run off.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
Promote Joe Brady? Since everybody loved Joe Brady. It's funny
McDermott had like that. That rough story was dropped on
him last year at the end of the season about
how he's just kind of a jerk and not nice.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
And and he made some nine eleven joke around nine
eleven jokes. Yeah, probably you shouldn't joke about.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
No, that's one of the Yeah, there's a few things like, hey,
just don't do any Hitler jokes, you.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
Know, it's just it's not going to go the way
you think it's going to go.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
You're not a comedian, Okay, you're not. Who's the girl
who hosted the Oscars or the Golden Globes with her name.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Whitney Cummings, No, the other one, Glazer, Nikki Glazer.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Yeah, she is hilarious. I think she's got free reign
to make jokes about anything.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
She's really good.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
But yeah, I guess McDermott's tiny chintz. There's not nothing's
happening to John Harball winner, Los Dan Campbell's safe. Yeah,
there's not a lot of other options. The Tomlin one
will be interesting to watch. We'll see what happens. All right,
back tomorrow, talk to you then,
