(00:29):
Jam Pack show tonight, and I promise you we are
gonna get to this. Jerry Jones, Mike McCarthy, Dion Sanders,
Michigotts in earnest. A little bit later, towards the end
of the show, I will give my tribute to Bob Uker,
not only mister Baseball as dubbed by Johnny Carson. I've
got a couple of funny stories and moreover, he was

(00:52):
in medical Marvel. He made it to ninety. But I
gotta tell you the last thirty five years, when you
see the litany of things you overcame, the guy was
tougher than a two dollars stake and an American treasure.
But as you've heard me say many times, the future
always has a way of arriving ahead of schedule. We

(01:14):
are down to seven games remaining in the National Football
League season, and four of them are this weekend. But
what a set of a four pack. There are storylines
a plenty. We are going to get to witness the
very meaningful football as the second season begins. Saturday, you've

(01:36):
got two NFL Division Round playoff games. Sunday, you've got
two NFL Division Round playoff games. Oh, by the way,
let's not forget Monday night the College football National Championship.
I'll probably dive into that a lot more heavily on
my Saturday night show. But it's all of a sudden

(01:58):
interesting to me that so many people are willing to
get in front of a speeding train implying that this
Notre Dame team has got some secret sauce for Ohio State.
We'll see, I'll talk about it tomorrow night. I'm not
buying it. But these are legacy defying games all throughout
the weekend, and that's why we watch, right. We don't

(02:18):
have royalty in this country. Our athletes are entertainers. There
are royalty, and sports remains the greatest reality show. You
can script everything, but the ending but in about fourteen
and a half hours at Texans in Chiefs, so kick
it off. The Texans in there, you know, gratuitous early

(02:40):
Saturday slot, that's the law. That's when Texans always play
when they are in the playoffs. And let the biggest
storyline begin. Will the Chiefs three pet And I know
people accuse them of playing with their food. Maybe they're
not that good and they're not blowing everybody out. They're
not winning by margin, and anyway you slice it, anyway

(03:00):
a characterize it. There are people that called this team
into question. I was not one of them. And all
of a sudden, don't look out. Now they're healthy. Oh
my goodness, they got weapons coming out there took us.
And oh, by the way, in case you've forgotten, since
twenty eighteen when Patrick Mahomes to go over as the
starting quarterback the Chiefs four to no off buys in
the playoffs. Plus did I mention? They are healthy, very

(03:22):
healthy for the first time in a long time. By
the way, for you history buffs, if you're old enough
to remember back in week sixteen, he wasn't that long ago.
The Chiefs beat the Texas twenty seven to nineteen. The
big factor of that day was Xavier Worthy. He had
seven catches, sixty five yards and a touchdown. And it's
not so much that the Chiefs had this complicated path

(03:44):
to victory. They just ran the ball and that allowed
passing leans doing up for open up for Patrick Mahomes.
Worthy was targeted, Worthy was highlighted. He was worthy. See
what I did there? And the defense played well. They
picked off CJ. Stroud twice. I don't see a path
whereby the Texans win this game. They need to play

(04:06):
a very, very good game against the Chiefs just to
be close, and Kansas City plays like they normally does.
I think it's death by a thousand cuts and the
Texans will go home early Saturday night. The real fun
really begins Commanders and Lions. This is an interesting game
because Detroit has managed to truly muscle through some of

(04:31):
the worst injury luck on route to the hanging on
to the number one seed. At one point, they had
eleven players who had started on defense at some point
in twenty twenty four on IR and they're still banged
up and they get to face, for my money, one
of the most poised professional rookie quarterbacks to ever Grace

(04:53):
the league and Jayden Daniels and the Commanders have already
had a dream season. No matter what happens here, there's
a reason they're at you nine and a half ten points,
and no one I know that I would trust has
grabbed the points. But I it's hard to land as well.
This could be a blowout. The back door could stay
open or the line. Look, let me tell you what

(05:16):
bothers me and handicapping. You look for strength versus weakness.
And the Commander's run defense couldn't stop a parade. They
ranked thirtieth. They give up one hundred and forty one
yards a game. The Lion's average r rushing for about
one hundred and forty game. So it starts there, all right.
And oh, by the way, among those injuries I just

(05:36):
alluded to regarded the Lions, it seemed like David Montgomery
was headed to goodbye till next year due to his
knee injury. But it turns out that injury wasn't as bad.
And guess what, it appears Montgomery's gonna play Saturday nights.
You're back to you know, knuckles and whatever the hell
it is. But that's a hell of a one to

(05:57):
two punch very hard to stop the Lions rushing attack.
When both Montgomery and Jamior Gibbs are at full strength.
We don't know if Montgomery will look like his typical self,
but I don't know how much it truly matters, because,
as I said, the Commander's defense was twenty eighth in
yards allowed in thirtieth and rush defense, and that's I

(06:20):
want to really give Jaden Daniels a hell of a
lot of credit because when they strolled into Tampa Bay
last week and shocked the Buccaneers, it was the first
time since Russell Wilson fourteen years ago but a rookie
won a road game in the playoffs. These rookies are

(06:43):
four and sixteen overall on the playoff road. It doesn't
feel like it stacks up well, but there's a lot
of people that feel, you know, there could be at
least one upset. This weekend jumped to the Eagles and Rams.
The first time the Eagles and Rams played, Saquon Barkley
had one of his best rushing games ever. Barkley had
two hundred and fifty five yards on the ground. That's

(07:03):
the ninth most in NFL history. It was a wake
up call for the Ram defense. Since then, they've tightened
things up. They not only allow about one hundred and
two yards a game, which is manageable, but that's what
the Eagles want to do. They want to control the
game with Barkley in their offensive line. But the Rams
cannot let the Eagles run wild again. If the Rams
can contain Philly's ground game, some people feel that they

(07:27):
have a chance at an upset. They do have a
chance at a upset because I like the Rams DNA,
and I like Sean McVay, and it may or may
not be a tight game. But there's also something else
that concerns me. If well, it doesn't concern me because
I don't care. But Matt staffud Stafford in rain and
snow games in his career. He started nine of them,

(07:49):
He's won one. His completion percentage is about fifty three percent,
fourteen touchdowns, eleven interceptions, with a passer rating in seventy six.
This is a bad spot for the Rams, who played
a very emotional, spirited game against the Vikings team who
was favored on the road. And the bottom line is

(08:12):
is you've got a situation here where after leaving so
much in the tank last week and having to go
back on the road again. And I'm not one of
these guys that tries to practice that psychology without a license.
But I don't know if the Rams can do this
two weeks in. I think this the Eagles team is
the most complete team in this tournament. But look, we
shall see. That's why they play the games right. And

(08:35):
you know, as far as that goes, the question will be,
you know, the question will certainly be. And by the way,
how can we forget the Bill's Ravens. It feels like
if you've played this game one hundred times, each team
might win fifty great matchup, two teams, two great quarterbacks.
I have a lot of respect for Lamar Jackson, especially
when it's October. I call him mister October. Ravens are

(08:58):
getting a lot of love here because they just dominated
the Bills when they played earlier in the year. I've
gained him almost two hundred yards the only time the
Bills lost by one score all season. And does it
matter for a rematch? I guess we're gonna find out.
But I feel like the Bills are buttoned up enough.
I'm not touching that game. Good teaser game when Baltimore

(09:21):
opened up as a one and a half point dog.
I teased it. I teased it up. That's gone now
never cross through zero. Baltimore is now a road favorite. Okay,
So I don't know that's a market move because a
lot of people are enamored with the Ravens this year.
They're getting a lot of love. Is you know, maybe
the greatest team in the history of the NFL. Okay,

(09:42):
I just until you do it in the playoffs, or
until you knock off the King, or you till you
do something a little more or meaningful, I can't. I'm
not granting you that. I'm just not gonna do it.
And so I'm still calling Lamar Jackson mister October until
he does it in January, which raises the question, will
there be an upset of a number one seed? Will

(10:03):
there be an upset at all this weekend? It's likely
if history, you know, there's out of the four games,
I'd say there's a fifty to fifty chance one of
the higher seeds is going down, But you don't know.
Will it be the Chiefs? I don't think so. The
only way Houston can win that game is to win
the turnover battle. Yes, I know it's cliche, but Houston's

(10:25):
got some shut down corners. They do have an above
average pass rush. They're built to hurry quarterbacks and make
them throw into tight windows. But you know the Texans,
they have a penchant for picking you off. They're good.
But if CJ. Stroud throws a couple of picks of
his own, as he did week sixty in Kansas City,

(10:47):
it nullifies that. All right. Patrick Mahomes is fifteen to
one when he doesn't throw a pick in the playoffs.
The one exception he lost in the overtime shootout to
Tom in the playoffs. Okay, now look this is back
of Brady's with New England. Now look the CounterPunch. The

(11:08):
Chiefs did. Just spread the ball around last week. The
Texans only allowed one of Justin Herbert's receivers, Lad McConkie,
more than sixteen yards. But unlike Herbert, Maholmes all of
a sudden has a bunch of guys to throw too.
Marquise Brown, Travis Kelcey, Xavier Worthy right on Donald and
you got two good running backs. The Chiefs ain't going

(11:29):
down Now the Lions. I just can't buy it. I
know I've seen some walks on some of these TV shows.
The Commanders cannot stop the Lions offense. They're not going
to be able to. The Lions averaged thirty three points
a game. That's average. That's the ninth best in the
NFL in the last twenty five years. So the only
way for the Commandos to hang around and perhaps steal

(11:55):
this game is to outscore the Lions period. Now, they
did it against the Bills when we fifteen. But when
you go six weeks in a row and you win
your last game in the last play of the game.
So Jayden Daniels, he's gonna have to really spread the ball.
I've never heard of Diami Brown. I have to check
with Mike Carmon. I won if anybody has him on
his on the fantasy team this year. But he's capable

(12:19):
of running deep routes and Detroit is downhill. Baby. They're
blitz heavy man coverage. They don't care. They don't play
scared by the way. Terry McLaurin of the Commandos let
all receivers and yardage on go routes almost four hundred
yards and go routes this year. But ironically, the Lions
with the risky high Ris kyrie Ward defense they play

(12:40):
only allowed the second most yards per game on those
routes of forty two. If Washington connects on those plays, though,
that could be an X factor. Another thing I'm gonna watch,
you know, Dan Campbell's gonna go forward on fourth down
at least three times. Right, Detroit's the only playoff team
with more than thirty fourth down attempts this season. An

(13:04):
ironically guests which coach in the NFL has the best
fourth down conversion rate since two thousand. Yeah, you guessed it,
Dan Quinn, the head coach of the Washington Commandos, eighty
seven fourth downs. By the way, Jaden Daniels is eight
for it on fourth down passes best marked in NFL history,

(13:26):
and on fourth down runs Jayden M. Daniels averages nine
point four yards a run. Lions have trouble with yes,
wait for it, running quarterbacks. They had trouble with Josh Allen.
They even had a little trouble with Baker Mayfield week two.
So this is gonna be an interesting game. I just

(13:50):
feel that Washington's defense, unless they pulled a miracle, you know,
I don't think Dexter Manley's walking through that door google
it knuckleheads. I can't see them hanging with Alliance, but
it's sure gonna be fun to watch. And then, of
course Sunday is gonna be spectacular as well. As we

(14:11):
head to Philadelphia, it's a cold weather game. I don't
like the Rams chances their game. They've got great DNA,
but I think this Philadelphia team is a lot more
butt dumped than people realize. And then is the best
palpably say for last? I think so? Why? Because no
matter who wins Buffalo or Baltimore, you're on your way

(14:31):
most likely to Kansas City for a chance to go
to the Super Bowl. And what does that mean? If
it's Buffalo, you've got a chance to get back for
the first time since ninety four and win the first
in the franchise, Big Story? Or Baltimore? Can Lamar Jackson
get over the hump and I'll stop calling him mister October.
Coming up, we're gonna bring in a guy, one of
the most unique guests we have. You follow him on

(14:54):
Twitter at NFL refstats. His name is Joe Gibbs. His
system correctly predicted perdiction did that the Washington Commanders would
upset the Tampa Bay Bucks last week, so we'll go
in order. We'll do all four games. The referee crews.
What does it mean peewee? How do we perhaps ascertain

(15:14):
this and what might it indicate in terms of who
might have an edge based on the way they play
versus how the game is officiated. I'm Bernie Fraderwick, come

Speaker 2 (15:44):
All right back at the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports
Radio Comedy Live from the tire Act dot Com studios
Here in a Las Vegas take you up to two
am Pacific, five am Easterns. Welcome in a gentleman who's
been a fixture on this show because he uses a
unique perspective and research on the effect that NFL referee
crews have on games because of their tendencies and historical data.

(16:07):
Say hello to Joe Gibbs. How you doing?

Speaker 4 (16:08):
Joe doing great? Bernnie?

Speaker 2 (16:10):
How are you good. I got to tell you these
four games this week, and I can't remember when I've
been this excited because all four have such phenomenal storylines.
And we'll start with Kansas City Houston, and of course
the storyline there is it's now real that from here
on out, the Chiefs win three more games and the

(16:34):
three peat. And it starts here in about thirteen hours.
So Clay Martin is the headman on this crew. Tell
us what you know and what do you think? And
by the way, before Joe, before we start, I should
have done this a minute ago. I gave you your
flowers earlier. If anybody doesn't think this is important in
terms of understanding the referee tendancies, you correctly predicted last

(16:58):
week that the Commanders, as a three point underdog, would
upset the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And in part it's due
to the tendency's referees have and the styles teams play.

Speaker 5 (17:08):
Yeah. Yeah, I had a pretty good week last week.
I went on five and one on my pick. The
only one I lost was the Denver game the Broncos.
I had them covering versus the Bills. But the rest
of them all went pretty much as playing, so hopefully
we can have another good week this week.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
All right, So take it away, what is it about
Clay Martin's crew and how might it favor the Chiefs
or you know, I don't want that to come out wrong.
It's just that, Yeah, certain umpires see the strike zone
differently and certain teams have a certain strike zone.

Speaker 5 (17:36):
Well, I think I think the way you said that,
Bunny probably echoes the sentiment of a lot of people
of favoring the Chiefs, and I'm sure we'll get some
of some of that during the game tomorrow when there's
a questionable call or non coal that goes their way.
But as it pertains to Clay Martin, this is only
his fifth games ahead referee in the playoffs. Home teams
are four and ozh straight up in his career in

(17:57):
the playoffs, two and two against the spread. Kansas City
Chiefs are six and zero straight up with Klay Martin
only two and four against the spread, favored by an
averages seven and a half points in those contests. Actually,
the last game that the Chiefs had with Klay Martin,
if you remember, was against the Raiders on Black Friday,
which is a very controversial finish Casey won nineteen seventeen,

(18:20):
but there was that false start slash illegal shift penalty
at the very end of the game. There's a lot
of confusion as to what it actually was, but the
game was ruled over and Casey pulled out a miracle
win once again. But as far as this crew goes
with Martin, there's an emphasis on the offensive side of
the ball. With him, he ranked second overall as far

(18:42):
as offensive penalties as a total percentage of his penalties
called only short hockey is called more this season, and
there's actually a hockeyly crew member on this officiating crew tomorrow.
And for listeners that don't know, in the NFL, they
have the head referee in the playoffs, but then they
mix and matched the crew. They call them like all
star crews, so they select different members from different crews.

Speaker 4 (19:04):
To create an all star crew for his playoff games.

Speaker 5 (19:07):
So what we have here tomorrow is Clay Martin the
head referee, and then members from the Hockey League Cleete Blakeman,
Brad Allen Cruise. And so there's an emphasis on the
offensive side of the ball. Give an example, full stop,
full start, offensive.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
Holding, which is all important.

Speaker 5 (19:23):
Clay Martin forty seven point four percent of these overall
penalties were called in those two categories. That's number one
in the league. So you kind of get where I'm
going with this one. And then you look at the
Chiefs and the Texans. The two weaknesses for both teams is.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
The offensive line.

Speaker 5 (19:38):
You've got Laramie Tunzel on one side for the Texans
and you've got Juwan Taylor, two of the most penalized
players in the NFL this season. So with this crew,
there's going to be a maximum focus on the offensive
line and we'll see who can navigate the best, and
that'll that'll go a long way to see who wins
wins the contest.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
So I think you've got the Chiefs winning by ten years.
That fair.

Speaker 4 (20:01):
Yeah, twenty seventy seventeen with my prediction a couple of reasons.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
I think you think it goes over because a lot
of people respect go ahead.

Speaker 5 (20:11):
Yeah, I mean, look, my final score is as far
as the over understuff goes, you know that she's won
twenty three to thirteen. I kind of do it more
on the basis of I guess I think more covering
the points bread.

Speaker 4 (20:25):
As opposed to the total. But that's sort of.

Speaker 5 (20:27):
An area where I think the game's going to land.
I think the ceiling for the Texans is sixteen to
seventeen points unless they get a special team's touchdown or
a defensive touchdown. I didn't see their offense putting a
whole lot of points up.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
It would put it.

Speaker 5 (20:40):
Over because it's such a low total. This is almost
a common copy of Houston from last season. If you
remember last year, they won the AFT South, hosted the
wildcard game as a two point dog to Cleveland, blew
Cleveland out, and then went to Baltimore in the divisional round,
kept it close early but then got blown out late.
And I think we see the same thing this year.
Houston law last week hosted the Charges in the wild

(21:02):
talk blew them out on the road.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
In Case, I think Houston can keep it close for
a while. The defense is pretty good.

Speaker 5 (21:08):
But eventually Case wins them down and like I said,
twenty seven to seventeen somewhere in that range, I think
Case wins in covers.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
All right, let's jump to the night game. Commanders at Detroit.
I know people are gaga about this ten point line,
but I certainly lay it before I took it. But
talk about it from your angle. Ron Torbert's on the crew.

Speaker 5 (21:30):
Yeah, roun full, but actually an interesting He's up Michigan
State along. So there's one one piece of useless information
that Yeah, Rock Tulbert, Yeah yeah, he went to Michigan State.
He's actually a big time of Toney now in DC.
But he's a head referee. Again, a focus on the
offensive side of the ball.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
Tilbet's the head referee. But again it's a make up of.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
Different crews and you have some guys from the Hockey
League crew Clayte Blakeman. Brad Allen has a crew member
on this game. Gonna be the first time that Brad
Allen a team, a member of the Brad Allen krue
will have officiated a Lions game since that debacle against
Dallas in twenty twenty three if you remember the Saturday
night game. But yeah, there's a focus here with these guys,

(22:15):
again on the offensive side of the ball. But the
positive heat for the lines is they are really the
gold standards as far as offensive penalties or lack thereof.
They rank thirty second in preset penalties to the game
and this kind of gets tossed to the side quite
a bit. They're like people are like, okay, whatever. But
what that does is it allows Detroit to play ahead

(22:35):
of the chains at a far higher rate than anyone else.
They avoid those silly penalties false start, illegal shift, the
legal motion, things of that nature, and that allows them
to control the tempo, control the clock, win the time
of possession, and really limit the exposure of their defense,
which is a problem. And then you look at these
two defenses. Washington ranks number one for defensive.

Speaker 4 (22:57):
Pass interference and Detroit renks number two.

Speaker 5 (23:01):
So we've got two defenses here that are susceptible to big,
big pass play penalties. But I did notice last week
in the wild card round there was a significant drop
off in defensive pass interference penalty called. So we'll see
if that carries over to this weekend. I think they
will try to let them play. If there's any history
of Torbot, he's more of an under referee, so I

(23:24):
think they're going to look to let them play.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
But I like.

Speaker 5 (23:28):
Detroit in this one as well. I think the same
thing Washington. Washington getting a lot of publicity, and look,
they've had a great season, don't get me wrong, but
this is a completely different proposition as to what they
faced last week. They played down in Tampa and it
was essentially a Washington home crowd from what I.

Speaker 4 (23:44):
Could go on the television.

Speaker 5 (23:46):
It's not going to be the case tomorrow night in
Detroit and you've got a rested Lions scene, and like
I said, the Rofens are going to control the time
of possession. You look up at the end of the game,
it'll be thirty four minutes to twenty six minutes in
favor of Detroit, and they will just wear them down
over the course of the game.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Talk with Joe Gibbs, follow them on Twitter. At NFL
Refstats does a lot of work with respect to research
on officiating crews that are assigned to games, what their
tendencies are, home versus away, defensive versus offensive penalties, just
looking at the data and what's likely to happen in

(24:22):
terms of how the data and the referee performance juxtaposes
against certain teams that have a proclivity to commit certain
penalties just based on the way their DNA makeup is.
All Right, we head to Philadelphia. I'm not as familiar
with Sean Smith as ahead referee, but this game has

(24:42):
a lot of weird angles. It turns out that the
Rams have played more road games with Sean Smith than
any other referee, and they're seven and two in that situation. Joe,
tell us what you know about this game?

Speaker 5 (24:58):
You yea sonsy bention. Yeah, the Rams in the McVeigh
era that played nine games on the road with Sean Smith,
the most of any referee, and there's seven and two in
those contests, So they have a got a good record
with him officiating. The Eagles fans don't like him, mainly
because of what happened. There was a game against Washington
I think about a month ago where Smith threw a

(25:18):
couple of Eagles players out of the game for unsportsmanlike
conducts or something like that. So they're still kind of
bitter about that. But again with Smith, it is he's
not a great home field referee. Home teams are forty
eight against the spread with Smith in his career. But
the thing is this season he's had a career best

(25:38):
for home field teams twelve three and one against the spread,
so he's been very favorable for the home team this season.
Very similar with Smith as the other two that I mentioned,
a focus on the offensive side of the ball. He's
got Sean Smith, Sluttnovak, and Clay Martin who we just
mentioned from the other game. You got members of those
crews all mixed in together, and then definitely going to

(26:00):
be a focus on the offensive side of the ball.
The Rams offensive line is solid, but the Eagles offensive
line is great, and I think that's really what gives
them the edge in this game when you when you
break it all down, I liked I liked Philly a lot.
That was terrible last week. I had him last week
against Green Bay. Somehow they won uncovered. I think they

(26:21):
bounced that big time this week. I don't know about you,
but I think this is just a bad spot for
the Rams. He coming up the short week cross country.
I like Philly a lot. I said twenty six to sixteen.
That's my prediction for the game, somewhere in that range.
But I think Philly just wears them down in the end.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
And I think Philly is very buttoned up. They'll be
ready at home. U. You're exactly correct.

Speaker 6 (26:48):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
They were not sharp at all against green Bay last week,
but yet managed to, you know, win by four points.
So I think I think the Rams, you know, had
their super Bowl last week in perfect conditions. And I
don't know if you heard me in my opening monologue,
Matt Stafford is not a great cold weather quarterback. He's

(27:11):
one and eight in games that are you know, rain
cold weather quarterbacks, you know, when the temperatures went down
below thirty five or whatever. And his completion percentage isn't good,
his TD, the interception ratio isn't good. Meters is passer rating, so.

Speaker 5 (27:26):
You know, and I remember a few weeks back when
Rams played at the Jets. I think it was like
week sixteen. Stafford looked for that day as well. Now
it just so happens the Jets lookt evehn was so
the Rams managed to pillow to win. But yeah, he
didn't look comfortable at all that day in New York.

Speaker 4 (27:43):
And I think the temperature that day was in the
hot twenties.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
All right. I think folks would argue that perhaps the
best game is saved for last Sunday night. Obviously you've
got a massive storyline here. Should Baltimore get over the
hamp Thal had likely to Kansas City for the chance
to you know, Lamar Jackson's for a Super Bowl. He

(28:08):
had if Buffalo holds served, well, you know what the
storyline is there already, it writes itself. And the legendary
Carl Cheffers is on the call. I see that guy
more on TV than Johnny Carson. So well, in the
short of it is, I know you've got some good
angles on this game, and I'm looking forward to hear
what you got to say, because the last question I'll
ask is which which of these games do you see

(28:31):
an upset? And I'd rather than call anything an upset,
I'll call which of the four road teams do you
expect one of the four road teams to win? It
might be this one, so take it away.

Speaker 5 (28:41):
Yeah, So Cheffer's all right, he'll go with him. Now,
I've mentioned in the previous rundowns of these games they
mix and match cruise a lot of these, like you'll
have the head referee and you'll have none of these
regular crew members associated with that particular playoff game. And
that's the case in the Detroit, Washington and the Kansas
City game tomorrow against Houston. Now I look at the

(29:03):
Kyle Sheffers game, he has himself as five of the
seven members are all Kyle Sheffer's regulars, and that's very
unusual like that stuck out for me. As soon as
I saw that, I'm like, well, that's that's not normal.
So the league is opted to go with Kyle Sheffers
and essentially his regular crew for this game. So let's
get that out of the way. As far as shepherds himself,

(29:25):
this is dating back to twenty sixteen, Home teams nineteen
and fifty seven sixty one percent with Kyle Sheffer's officiating,
including eleven and five in twenty twenty four. Only John
Hussey has been a better home field referee over that timeframe.
Home underdogs like the Buffalo Bills twenty four to fourteen
and three against the spread sixty four percent with Kyle Sheffers.

(29:46):
Back dating back to twenty sixteen, the Buffalo Bills and
the Josh Allen Era eight and two with Kyle Sheffers,
including their seventeen to three Divisional round win over Baltimore
in twenty twenty one. So those are some big picture
of things. Definitely a lot of things that favor the
Buffalo Bills in this matchup. And this is as far
as the penalties go, this one's very interesting. Buffalo Bills

(30:08):
ranked number one for false starts in the league. The
Kyle Sheffer's crew ranked last calling false start penalties. Okay,
so you're starting to see now why they kept that
Cheffer in my opinion, why they kept that Shepher's crew
intact for this game. So Keith and eye the false
starts if they call them on Sunday. But as far
as the false start offensive holding penalty itself, the Shepherd's

(30:29):
crew has called a less percent lower percentage of that
than league average this year, but they've called a higher
percentage on the back end of defensive pass interference and
defensive holding penalties, which technically would hurt Baltimore more in
this particular matchup. I like Baltimore, but I wrote this
in my whole rundown of the game that I've wrote.

(30:50):
I've written the Baltimore Ravens all season and particularly down
the stretch, and I'm not going to get up and
now I think they're the better team. But the officiating
assignment does concern me. And like frankly, like if Buffalo
won the game, like if Buffalo wins twenty seven twenty four,
I'm not going to be shocked. But I've written this

(31:10):
follow with Baltimore, I think they's a better roll around
seeing and we'll see what happens Sunday. But if there's
a team that can go and win it, then they've
got the pedigree to do it.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
I'm just blown away by Buffalo getting points at home.
It's a market move, obviously, people really believe in this,
in this Ravens team. But I think Buffalo is so
good at home. But all right, so of the four,
do you expect the Baltimore Buffalo game to carry the
one road upset under your head?

Speaker 5 (31:42):
Yeah, but that's not really that's not really going out
on a limb, because you know, that's obviously the most
closely contested game, true.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
Based on the betting line. But I would consider it
an upset if Buffalo loses at home, anybody. Okay, they
beat it this year, they beat Detroit this year. Both
of those games are on the road.

Speaker 5 (32:01):
Yeah, they got they got that. They also got their
doors blown off by these Baltimore Ravens as well. Now
they have some players out, but Baltimore wasn't the same
game back then either. I think Bothimore is just a
better team.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
All right.

Speaker 5 (32:14):
Now, Look, we'll see what happens Sunday. Look, I'm really
looking forward to the game. I'm I'm riding with Baltimore,
but like I said, it's Buffalo one, I'm not.

Speaker 2 (32:21):
Going to be We're gonna have you on again, Joe,
because this is really an amazing tournament. Thanks so much
for all your research. Keep up the great work. Thank you,
Thanks Bernie, Joe, Joe Gibbs at NFL ref Stats on Twitter.
Coming up, we have a rousing uh midnight hour tonight
with some highly charged stuff. I can't wait what these
calls are gonna sound like, but I'll set that whole

(32:44):
thing up here. Coming up, I'm Bernie Frader. We're keviny
Lyam from Las Vegas, foxforts Radio, Tarak dot Com Studios.
Keep it locked you listening to the Bernie Frowner Show
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, back at the Bernie
Frowder Show, Fox Sports Radio, coming to live the Taraka
dot Com studios here and Las Vegas. We are just
thirteen minutes away from twelve midnight. Literally from where I

(33:05):
sit in Las Vegas, the clock will strike twelve midnight
Pacific time zone, and perhaps wherever you're listening, same situation,
but literally, if not figuratively, it is the midnight hour,
and we'll be taking your calls at eight seven, seven, nine, nine,
six sixty three six y nine, and it's fairly obvious
what we'll be talking about. In case you missed it,

(33:26):
The Cowboys moved on from Mike McCarthy this past week,
and I know there's a bunch of superfluent statistics. He
won sixty two percent of his games and had a
high point differentially, had three playoff appearances. He was hired
to win in the playoffs, and it didn't work. And
I know Jerry's getting buried because he waited eight days

(33:48):
and this and that and YadA yacht, and he offered
Mike McCarthy something, but it wasn't enough for McCarthy. And
so McCarthy's moving on. And so we're now, by the way,
hearing that Jerry may have been caught with his guard down.
He got caught off balance on this. He thought he
would be able to retain Mike McCary. Mike McCarthy says,
not up in here. So he left, and I do

(34:11):
think he interviewed with the Bears this week. So here's
the question I want to put to the folks. Who's
sat to yon here, Jerry's or Mike's in terms of
the way Mike McCarthy handled himself but didn't necessarily produce
when it mattered, or how Jerry handled himself, And will
Jerry regret this decision? Our good riddance? Could he possibly

(34:31):
regret this? And then, of course what's part B of
the question. Dion Sanders Now the betting markets, believe it
or not, the off shore betting markets. Dion Sanders is
even money to be the cowboys next head coach. Do
I think he will be? No? Would I love to
see it? Oh my god, Yes, I got a funny

(34:52):
feeling it's going to be Kellen Moore. But I could
be wrong, and I want to be wrong. I love Dion.
Would Deon have success in Dallas? Hell no, it'll fail spectacularly.
He Dion is a man who needs craves, must have control,
and when he has it, he's good at it. But
he ain't gonna have it. He's gonna have the least

(35:14):
amount of control he's ever had with anything in his life,
including the roster, you know, construction, everything. And this is
the National Football League. The talent I'm gonna hold my
fingers a centimeter apart. Is this even throughout the league,
and every team has maybe two or three transcendent players,
and Dion had the Heisman Trophy winner in one of

(35:35):
the top quarterbacks, and Colorado did Okay, he did well.
I mean, look, what's interesting is for starters. And by
the way, that's the question when it comes to Dion,
you think it's gonna happen? Do you want it to happen?
Do you think it would work when they start losing,
He's not gonna handle the scrutiny. I mean the Boulder,

(35:55):
the Boulder media, like you know, with all due respect,
compared to the Dallas media, a picnic and they've already. Look,
the fans have spoken out. How did you know they did? Somebody,
some publication did a It might have been the Athletic
I want to give them credit. But they did a
survey of twenty four hundred people. Do the folks in

(36:17):
Dallas approve of how Jerry Jones handled the situation? Fifty
five percent No, the franchise has lost, no reason for hope,
another forty percent not sure what the think, hoping for
the best. It's ninety four percent did not give it
a thumbs up. But then what's interesting is when they interviewed,
when they surveyed those same fans. Do you want Do

(36:40):
you want Dion Sanders as the next coach of the Cowboys?
Seventy eight percent said no, Twenty two percent said yeah,
what the hell bring out on the circus. If anybody
can handle the spotlight and stand up to Jerry Jones,
it's Dion Sanders, mister primetime. He's confident, he's media savvy,
he's d you know. One respondent says, you can't argue

(37:05):
with the results quote. They were ready to laugh at
him struggling at Colorado instead, look what he did fair enough,
Say what you want, But Dean has backed up his
talk about everywhere he's gone fair enough when he's had
control the season. Prior to Dion arriving in Colorado, the
Buffs are one and eleven. He transformed the program in

(37:25):
just two years. He brought along Travis Hunter. They were
nine and four. Was Colorado a great team? No, not
at all. As a matter of fact, when they got on
the field with good teams, they didn't look so good.
But what Dion did there is undeniable. So do you
want him in Dallas? W Jerry Regret moving on from
Mike McCarthy, Is it good? Rittans did he get caught,

(37:47):
you know, off guard with Dion work. Do you want it?
You get the picture. Also, let's talk about the Raiders.
Mark Davis is now paying four coaches since they got
to Las Vegas. Tom Brady is putting the hard sell
on Ben Johnson. I don't know if he's going to
get him. The real question is the Raiders in the

(38:09):
Raider Nation, arguably the greatest sports you know, fan base
in history. Will the Raiders ever return to glory? I mean,
this is a freaking circus. Whoever gets this job? And
by the way, all NFL jobs are great, there's only
thirty two of them. And here's a chance if you will,
you know, if you turn this franchise around and got
him back to glory. But will they ever? You know,

(38:30):
Brady's sort of in charge now. They need a GM,
they need you know, the coach. I need a roster
and a quarterback. So Mike McCarthy, Jerry Jones, Dion Sanders,
will it happen? Do you want it to happen? Will
it work? Do you think it would work? What are
your thoughts? Are you on Mike McCarthy's side, Do you
think Jerry might even regret allowing McCarthy out the door
or is it good riddance? Mark Davis? So the Raiders

(38:54):
paying four coaches now that aren't even there anymore? Will
they ever return to glory? Finally, at the end of
the show tonight, I'll have my own tribute to Bob Ucker,
but I want to get yours if you have a
funny yukra memory or I just want to chime in.
So those are our three topics. Eight seven, seven, nine, nine,
six six three sixty nine The Minnight Hour. The callers
are what make the min that hour great. I really

(39:15):
am looking forward to hearing what you've got to say
on these issues. Don't be shy and remember the most
boring conversations are the ones when everybody agrees Jerry Jones,
Mike McCarthy, Dion Sanders, Mark Davis, Raiders, well every return
to glory and maybe even some thoughts on Bob Uker.
The Midnight Hours up next. Keep it locked. You're listening
to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
Well, that's right, you heard the mand Bernie Fradle Show
keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Frattle. We
are company line from thee Tarak dot Com studios here
in Las Vegas. Fox Sports Radio. So much to get
to and we gotta get to it. Jerry Jones, Mike McCarthy,
Dion Sanders could have happened? Do you want it to happen?

(40:05):
Would it work well? Jerry regret letting Mike McCarthy go
by the way, Mark Davis of the Raiders not paying
four coaches. They don't coach there anymore, all since the
Raiders got to Las Vegas just recently. Also, Bob Yucker,
Big news this week. Yep, it's that time. It's midnight
hour eight seven, seven nine nine, six six three sixty nine.

(40:27):
You folks know what to do, and you've done a
great job doing it. Let's start with Donald san Diego.
Humberto leads off tonight. How are you Berto, Mollie Benny.

Speaker 7 (40:39):
Too, Sorry Bernie, Yes, sir, go ahead.

Speaker 8 (40:47):
Listen.

Speaker 9 (40:47):
We got a little sound.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
Effects in the background. They're a big fellow.

Speaker 10 (40:52):
Yeah right now.

Speaker 8 (40:54):
Listen on Jerry Jones, He's like he had a girlfriend
in McCarthy and then he wanted to look for a
new one while waiting for the other one in McCarthy.

Speaker 11 (41:05):
Duncan I mean, but it's not.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
You know what though, if the Jerry Jones would have
given him a five year deal, and also apparently Jerry
Jones wanted Jason Whitten to be hired on staff coaching.
If Py McCarthy would have wanted to be there, he
could have been there. I think Jerry was caught, uh
caught nap a little bit. I think he took McCarthy anyway,

(41:29):
go ahead, I just want to record straight.

Speaker 8 (41:31):
I agree with you on that one. And regarding Brady
and the Raiders, they let the LESCo go and that's
the only move that I don't like because time to LESCo,
for whatever is worth. He was very good at drafting
players and that's something that the Raiders, I don't know
who they're gonna They need a GM first, and he's
gonna take.

Speaker 2 (41:50):
Them there, actually gonna do it backwards Umberto. It looks like,
you know, allow their coach to pick the GM. Will
the Raiders never returned to prominence again.

Speaker 8 (41:58):
I'm thinking about a three year it's gonna take them
years to come back on.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
Yeah, it's incredibly optimistic. They don't even have a quarterback there, Bud.

Speaker 8 (42:07):
Well, then that's what these three years they need to
they lose again next year and then maybe find a quarterback.
But he's gonna take them a while. And Regarden Bob Buker,
I mean, what can I say about the guy? I mean,
he was incredible and sink to break Monday last year
saying talking about the Mendoza line, you know, well, you

(42:30):
know what that is.

Speaker 2 (42:30):
That's guys who bat under two hundred and interestingly enough,
from bertil first career, Bob Buker's batting at which Zo
point one nine seven they run it up.

Speaker 12 (42:39):
That's right, yep, and Mendoza to fifteen. All right, that's
what I got, That's what I have him. Bernie, I
missed you the last two weeks, okay.

Speaker 2 (42:53):
All right, and Bertol you enjoyed the rest of your week,
and I always appreciate you. Bud Jim in Massachusetts, how
are you looking forward to the wisdom of Jim? Here?
We got a lot of meat on the.

Speaker 13 (43:02):
Bone, hey, Bernie. Yeah, I'd like to see Dion go
there because, like you said, like you said, you know,
but all it is in pro sports is you're managing
an adult day care center and where he's had a
proven track record as a coach and as a player.
I think it fit in pretty good dere As far
as McCarty goes, I think his time was done. I

(43:23):
think the players quit on him, and I think McCarty
quit on himself. I mean, especially last year when he
got blown out by Green Bay at home. It's like
he was on the sideline, like not yelling out, getting
on anybody, just like, hey, all right, let's go home
next year, you know. So I think it's I think
it's best all around for Jerry, for him and for Dion.
If he goes then I think it'd be a good fit.

Speaker 2 (43:45):
It seemed like everything goes stale. Well, listen, it'll be
something we won't be able to take our eyes off.
I don't know that he'd have success. It's a different animal.
And he's in there with Philadelphia and Washington, and I
got no faith in Dak and Dean doesn't like when
he's all that when things don't go well, and that
Dallas media can be can be kind of biting Jim.
So I hope he goes. Man. Did you think he'll

(44:07):
go there? Here's the real question when push comes to Chevre.
We seeing Deanna on the sidelines next year in Dallas?

Speaker 14 (44:14):
Yes, I do Okay fair enough.

Speaker 13 (44:16):
The other thing is, I think Brady's gonna work some
magic there in LA I think they're going to turn
around in a couple of years. I mean in Los Angeles,
they're gonna turn around a couple of years. And what
does the only care about paying four or five quarterbacks.
He's got the dough, He's got all money in that
city and that franchise to do whatever he wants.

Speaker 2 (44:38):
You know, it's a colloquial thing. It's it's an indicator,
Jim that the decisions made prior were perhaps not done
with the greatest of due diligence or foresight. There. That's
where I'm really alluding to.

Speaker 13 (44:52):
Okay, And the thing with Bob Yuker is, I mean
he made one of the best. He had the second
best commercial next to me and Joe Green and the
pet the commercial with a kids. That's when he's sitting
on the stands.

Speaker 14 (45:03):
Of the couch, yell, come on, you're in the rocks.
You get out of it.

Speaker 15 (45:06):
He goes, Oh, I must be in a row.

Speaker 14 (45:08):
That's right, show the way.

Speaker 13 (45:10):
Up in the bleachers. I mean, you more money on that. Commercially,
he didn't playing in the league all.

Speaker 2 (45:14):
Those hits absolutely and uh great stuff. Jim is always man,
I appreciate you, and now that became an iconic line.
I must be in the front row they now call
the Eucher seats the Nosebley. That was actually filmed at
Dodger Stadium when he went up at the top or
all many years ago. All right, uh uh out to
the phones, James in Los Angeles side James.

Speaker 11 (45:35):
All right, Budy, Hey, now how you doing?

Speaker 2 (45:37):
Man good?

Speaker 11 (45:39):
Hey? Yeah, Uh it's one. As McCarty goes, I'm bagging that.
You know, he stood on his own two feet.

Speaker 10 (45:46):
Uh.

Speaker 11 (45:46):
He could tell him something to get anybody, you know,
Pete Carroll, my Tom even the coach of the Rams,
they all got one ring. So you know he's in
that category. Uh, I do like uh. I was underappreciated him.

Speaker 16 (46:02):
And if you're going to get rid.

Speaker 11 (46:03):
Of a coach, you better find one of equal value.
And they didn't do that. And so who's gonna be
better than Mike McCartney to coach the teak?

Speaker 16 (46:13):
I know, you know he's got what twelve and.

Speaker 11 (46:15):
Five wins eat for the last three or four seasons.

Speaker 2 (46:20):
Well, he was twelve and five the first three and
they went off a cliff this year, and really can't
blame him for that because they lost their overpaid quarterback.
But I think the larger issue here, though, is he
was brought into winning the postseason and that wasn't going
to happen. I think everything was very stale, and I
think Jerry would have brought him back out of convenience.

(46:40):
But McCarthy truly believes he has market value and he
does well. See if he lands somewhere else. I think
he's got a shot in Chicago. I think he's got
an even bigger shot in New Orleans. Thoughts about the Raiders,
we'll talk about the Raiders. Are they are they done?

Speaker 11 (46:55):
You know, we're turn by at the hell anything if possible.
I wouldn't be surprised if they jump on Mike McCartney,
you know, at the retread for now, I don't think.

Speaker 2 (47:05):
I don't think he's in the mix. I think Don
tom Brady wants Ben Johnson in the worst way.

Speaker 11 (47:10):
Yeah well, I mean you guys looking to offer it
to what happens.

Speaker 16 (47:12):
But uh yeah, you know, with tom Brady.

Speaker 11 (47:16):
There, I think they can do in the retread, and
you know, we'll see what happens. Man Dion. I don't
think Deyon knows he can't win it with Dak, So
I don't think he's gonna.

Speaker 2 (47:25):
Take the job he said he would take. He did,
he said he actually did say that, James and I
believe him. So the question is, is Jerry gonna do
this or not? What are you waiting for? He's sitting
right there for it if you want him.

Speaker 11 (47:37):
Nah, he's not gonna do it. He's not gonna do it.
I don't think it's I don't think it's Trugna let him.
I think Steve is gonna say something and blocked it
or whatever, and they're gonna get They gotta find somebody
equal value to McCartney. Now where they get that, I
don't know, but you know, like you said, Kellen Moore, Baby,
but we'll Steve.

Speaker 2 (47:56):
I know he's gonna interview and he has history there. All.
I appreciate you as always, games Man, Thanks a lot.
That's head to Bakersfield. We stay in California. Andrew joined
this good evening, Andrew. How are you.

Speaker 17 (48:09):
I'm good?

Speaker 2 (48:09):
How are you Bernie doing well? Thank you?

Speaker 17 (48:12):
All righty. My thoughts on McCarthy are the only reason
he had like half a leg to stand on is
because he won some games after Dak got injured. And
so then Jerry offers him, however, a year whatever he
was offering him, and McCarthy said no, and so in

(48:35):
my thought, I was like, good riddance.

Speaker 2 (48:38):
That's how I feel. I got nothing against Mike McCarthy.
I know Michael Parsons left him. Michael Parson's all devastating.
The one minute later he says, Okay, we're on to
the next one. Look, he didn't win. He's a coaches guy.
He doesn't ride you like a rent and mule, he
doesn't disrespect people. But they were never going to get
to the Promised Land with him, and it's it's not
even debatable. So I don't think they're going to miss him,

(49:00):
although I don't. I don't think that this went down
the way Jerry thought it would. So the real question
is would you like to see Dion there and do
you think it would happen? And if it happens, you
think he'd win?

Speaker 17 (49:13):
Okay, I got I gotta skip those. Can I do
a random go ahead?

Speaker 2 (49:18):
Man?

Speaker 17 (49:19):
Okay? So tonight on the news they were talking about
a blind guy who was a sports announcer I think
it was for basketball, and I thought that was kind
of crazy, and I thought maybe Emmett, the Seahawks fan,
could do something like that. Does he call your show?

Speaker 2 (49:38):
Emmett's a great guy. He calls my show a lot,
and he calls when my host Ben Maller, and I
think he's even got his own podcast. So he said,
I didn't want to throw that out. All right, it's
always interesting. All right, appreciate it, Andrew, enjoy the rest
of your evening. All right, we go to the great
city of Rochester, New York, Mario Joints and say, Mario,
thanks for checking in tonight. What do you got man?

Speaker 13 (49:57):
Hey, Bernie, how are you now?

Speaker 6 (49:59):
I know why I don't go to Street because you
bring up some interesting stuff, especially when you and the
guy that you talk with that you crunched down the
team give yeah, yeah, what do you call him?

Speaker 18 (50:12):
The Frits some champion or something.

Speaker 2 (50:14):
NFL rough Stats at NFL rough Stats is his Twitter hand.

Speaker 6 (50:17):
Yeah. As far as the coach for the Cowboys, whoever
it's going to be, Jerry Jones has to just be
the owner and own the coach coach the players play.

Speaker 18 (50:32):
I think the reason.

Speaker 6 (50:34):
Why some of the coaches left, like the one that
was at Miami and won a championship and got caps.
How would someone like him leave?

Speaker 2 (50:45):
I mean, well you heard, I'll tell you. I'll answer
your question. There was a banquet in February ninety four
and did one back to back champions championships, and Jerry said, yeah,
we got a great team to do. Any one of
five hundred coaches could have coach that team. Well, that
wasn't that was totally unfair to Jimmy Johnson. Jimmy Johnson
got win to that and they parted of company. And uh,

(51:06):
ever since then, you know, Barry Switzer got the one.
But Jerry's going to hire guys that are subservient. It's
just a yes man.

Speaker 6 (51:14):
Oh when he soon as he bought the team, got
rid of Tom Landry and the general manager, and then
one coach up to another.

Speaker 16 (51:23):
Even Bill Parcells was there.

Speaker 6 (51:24):
And uh, Barry Switzer and Jason Garrett, Uh, whoever the
coach is. I just hope he just leaves them alone
and let him do what he's supposed to do. And uh,
that's that's that's that's maybe we might call them Texas Team,
not America's Team.

Speaker 2 (51:47):
I appreciate you checking in Mario. Hold it down there
in Rochester, man, stay warm. They got a real winner there.

Speaker 14 (51:53):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (51:53):
Back out to the phones, Patrick from Iowa joins, what's up? Patrick?

Speaker 4 (52:02):
Hey, how you doing doing well?

Speaker 6 (52:04):
It's good.

Speaker 18 (52:06):
I have a great story about Norm McDonald and Bob
and Bobby.

Speaker 2 (52:12):
I know the story.

Speaker 18 (52:13):
Go ahead, tell him you know the story?

Speaker 2 (52:15):
Yeah, go ahead, man.

Speaker 18 (52:17):
So he goes into the booth and Bobby Uker is
doing the the actual play by play for the Brewers,
and McDonald goes doing the booth and he says, hey,
what's going on? And Bobby u says, look that guy
down there, right down there, right down there, and it's

(52:42):
John Fulgarty says, oh, it's John Fulgerty. You know he's
a rock star. This You know he's a rock star.
You think he doesn't play music orthing. He just bites
the heads off of you know, I uh bites off
wraps and stuff. He says, No, he's a rock shark.

(53:05):
He can sing. And not only that, I golf with
him all the time and he can play a ball.
I'm a bunker like you would not believe. And this
is Bobby gerk He's just a normal man. A normal guy.

Speaker 2 (53:22):
I'm not to talk about him at the end of
the show, and thanks a lot for checking in. Appreciate that. Patrick. Look,
there's a million lines, tweeted a couple of them out.
You know, he had a home run off Sandy Kofax.
He had fourteen norm runs in his career, three or
off Hall of Famer Sandy Kofax, Fergie Jenkins and Gailer Perry.
And you know when he hit the home run off Colfax,

(53:44):
A reporter said, man, how'd you feel about homing off Colfax?
He says, I was concerned I ruined his chances of
getting into the Hall of Fame. I mean, he was
self deprecating. So we're going to continue on with this.
Of course, we got Jerry, Jared Jones, Mike McCarthy, Deonce.
Do you want him there? Will it work? Do you
think it'll happen? We can talk about the Raiders, we

(54:05):
can talk about Bob Youker. You're all getting in. Please
be patient. I want to hear from all of you. Burton, Colorado, Jerome, Kyle,
Mark and Florida and Manuel of course Hank Tight guys
will be with all of you. I'm Bernie Fraddle We're

to get to. Dion Sanders, Jerry Jones, Mike McCarthy, you
know what to do there? How about the crazy Raiders
paying for which is to not be there? And then Bob,

(55:02):
you are back out to the phones by Bert in Colorado?
Hi Bert, how are you?

Speaker 6 (55:08):
That's close enough?

Speaker 4 (55:08):
It's Rev and our team.

Speaker 19 (55:11):
It's okay, our teams here up in Colorado now, Bubba
and Scout and reb and we we know the answer
for the Raiders. They just got to go Alabama, Alabama
quarterback and they get Kenny Stabler again. They got to
go to Alabama. I've talked to some of the big
players from Alabama and stuff and from the SEC like

(55:32):
Dan Reied.

Speaker 5 (55:33):
You heard of him.

Speaker 6 (55:34):
He was back up with Don Meredith.

Speaker 16 (55:37):
He is good.

Speaker 6 (55:38):
He's good.

Speaker 19 (55:39):
And Boba knows the Cowboys backwards and forwards. I mean,
you can't beat Bubba when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys.
He used to be up there on the front lines
with Tim. She could help. You know, they need they
need player personnel up there at the front off DM
the picks for them. They've got a good GM now
over at the Raiders. And because he's starts looking at

(56:01):
less those shows Alabama.

Speaker 4 (56:02):
You know you can scrape up.

Speaker 19 (56:03):
Quarterbacks at Alabama starting with bart Starr.

Speaker 18 (56:07):
Going back to bart Starr.

Speaker 6 (56:10):
And oh yeah, nobody's I mean you can't.

Speaker 19 (56:14):
You can keep naming him down the line.

Speaker 2 (56:16):
And well, real quickly, do you think Diana, I got
you man? Good stuff? But do you think Dion will
take the job? Check that I know he'll take the job.
Do you think he'll Jerry, when push comes to shove
will offer him the job.

Speaker 19 (56:27):
He'd be dumb. He should talk to somebody else. I
mean he should.

Speaker 20 (56:31):
He should get quarterback.

Speaker 4 (56:33):
That's another thing.

Speaker 16 (56:34):
Go to God, allgi.

Speaker 2 (56:35):
You got to get a coach first, and.

Speaker 8 (56:37):
You know something else.

Speaker 19 (56:38):
As far as his catchers go, I talked to Joe Girardi.
I'm surprised he's out of baseball.

Speaker 16 (56:43):
He sounded like catcher. He told us he was signed.

Speaker 19 (56:46):
By the Chicago Cubs from Northwestern University.

Speaker 2 (56:49):
Very right, guys, managed, Yeah, really Florida Marlins, No, I
Joe's I think a lot of Joe, but Joe's he's
own man. He's not like Mike McCarthy. Doesn't kids him.

Speaker 16 (56:58):
But is he back in the park and he didn't.

Speaker 18 (57:00):
He's coaching in Florida now.

Speaker 2 (57:02):
I don't know. I don't know what he's doing. Body.

Speaker 13 (57:03):
Larrynson great, I talk to him.

Speaker 19 (57:06):
Dan Reeves great, his back up for that Dandy Dunn
back in the sixties.

Speaker 18 (57:11):
These people sec big time, big time.

Speaker 19 (57:14):
You go down there for the Raiders, get another Kennedy's
tabler and your set.

Speaker 2 (57:19):
That's what they right, man, Easier setting on Bert. I
appreciate you, buddy. Don't be a stranger. Jero, my man
in Charleston, thanks for hanging on. What do you got
for us tonight?

Speaker 16 (57:29):
When when I think of the chances that the Cowboys
hired beyond sad. I'm kind of reminded from a line
from a Clint Eastwood movie.

Speaker 18 (57:38):
It was.

Speaker 16 (57:41):
Am shrump okay from the Clint east movie Do you
feel lucky?

Speaker 18 (57:46):
Punk? I?

Speaker 16 (57:50):
Can you be those two?

Speaker 11 (57:51):
He goes in the.

Speaker 2 (57:52):
Term real, Hell no, but he'll be watching.

Speaker 16 (57:56):
I'll be watching Deon m.

Speaker 4 (57:59):
Trump.

Speaker 16 (58:00):
By the way, as far as Tom Brady with st
reminds me that old song. I used to listen to this,
and I probably lived at that time with you trying
to love too to do you don't take money from
fuck and you'll try girl.

Speaker 2 (58:15):
I don't get this. He's gonna be on the Lions
game tomorrow night, and he's making personnel decisions for the Raiders.
I don't I don't care. I didn't do what the
hell they want. But I really want to hear your
I really want to direct answer to this question, Jerome.
At the end of the day, do you think Dion
will end up being hired as the head coach of
the Cowboys?

Speaker 16 (58:34):
Buyer, Beware, beware, beware, Carol, at your own risk.

Speaker 2 (58:39):
I'm gonna take that as a nose. So you don't
think you don't think it'll end up happening.

Speaker 9 (58:42):
Oh you don't take it.

Speaker 2 (58:49):
Okay, let's let's just real quickly, because I want to
get the their callers if he took the job, do
you think they would win? I don't. It's not a
knock on Dion. No one's winning there. No one's went
in there in their current structure. And Dion didn't like
it when the Colorado media called him out. And the
Dallas need to be a thousand times worse. I think
it'd be a spectacular fail to be fun to.

Speaker 16 (59:11):
Watch creative control create. One must have creative control. Without
creative control, it's not going to work. It's not going
to work. Control.

Speaker 2 (59:21):
You have to give it all to the end. And
I think Jerry can do it.

Speaker 16 (59:28):
He's working.

Speaker 11 (59:31):
He ain't giving it up now.

Speaker 2 (59:33):
Thango bingo, bingo, all right, bingo, thank you, Get some
rest man, Kyle and Vegas.

Speaker 14 (59:38):
What's up, budd Oh it's magic?

Speaker 9 (59:42):
Hello, listen, but wants to go? I can tell you
that right now, past off. Dion already came out of
the interview us at that wherever she goes, he would.

Speaker 14 (59:53):
Like to coach him if he could, and being a
Dallas doesn't have a top ten pick, he's probably not
going to go The other thing is, let's address everythin
in the room. Dallas is the most penalized team. There's
the fourth heaviest penalized team in the NFL as of
this season. Nobody wants to go there. And we got
too many dysfunctional organizations.

Speaker 9 (01:00:14):
Being the Bears, the Jets, the.

Speaker 14 (01:00:16):
Raiders, the Titans, the jab Wuars. We have so much
dysfunction in the NFL right now that a lot of
these veteran coaches I'm using air quotes there don't want
these jobs. And it's not like Mike McCarthy can't do
the job in Chicago. We just don't you go to
another dysfunctional organization where they don't have nothing prepared, nothing

(01:00:39):
ready to go. Mike McCarthy Jerry Jones the best amical
breakup ever.

Speaker 9 (01:00:46):
I think that was the best breakup that they could
have done.

Speaker 14 (01:00:49):
One doesn't want to be there, the other one doesn't
want him to be there.

Speaker 9 (01:00:51):
They don't his new agent, they.

Speaker 14 (01:00:53):
Didn't like the agreement, they didn't like the money that
was being offered. But at the same time, though.

Speaker 9 (01:00:58):
When you're winning sixty seven.

Speaker 14 (01:00:59):
Percent your game, but you're losing in the games that
matter the most, and I mean the most What are
you really going to do there, Bernie? And just for
the record, I want to.

Speaker 9 (01:01:07):
Say, it's so bad to you, uncle Bernie.

Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
All right, Budd, you're here in Vegas.

Speaker 14 (01:01:14):
Anything quickly on the Raiders, Yeah, listen, listen. I'm not
a Raiders fan. I don't like the fan base. They're they're, they're,
they're a little too much for me.

Speaker 9 (01:01:25):
But at the same time, though, Tom sticks to.

Speaker 14 (01:01:28):
The broadcast booth, keep your nose playing, don't get in
no trouble. You already got two scandals.

Speaker 9 (01:01:33):
On you already.

Speaker 14 (01:01:33):
Don't get hit worth our one brothers.

Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
All right, man, thanks a lot. I don't know if
anybody has any faith that the Raiders are going to
be rise to glory again anytime soon. And I certainly don't.
Down to Florida, Mark joins us. Good evening, Mark, how
are you.

Speaker 6 (01:01:46):
I'm doing good.

Speaker 21 (01:01:48):
I'm gonna give you my opinion on uh Dallas Cowboys. Okay,
I really don't I really don't care. But I don't
think he's going to go because his son would never
play quarterback there, because of because of that Prescott slordy.

Speaker 2 (01:02:02):
You know what, I don't think that would stop him.
Hold that thought, Mark I was told by some people
that trust that Dion came to the conclusion, well, if
I stay at Colorado, I'm not coaching shador here anymore anyway,
So I can coach somewhere in the NFL if it's
not your door. And if Dallas comes calling, I'm not
turning that down. And DNS already hinted man he'll take
the job if it's offered. The real question is when

(01:02:25):
push comes to shove, will Jerry offer him the job?
And if he did, would it work.

Speaker 21 (01:02:31):
Yeah, I don't know if I don't know if it
will work. First of all, they know the players right now,
but I'm neither here or there. I wanted to bring
out something. Didn't Jerry play at Arkansas and the National
Championship team with Jemmy Johnson?

Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
Yeah, he was alignment.

Speaker 21 (01:02:45):
Yes, that's kind of a that's kind of a cool thing.
History wise, you know, you don't really looking as a
football player and National Championship.

Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
He's eighty two.

Speaker 21 (01:02:55):
But anyway, anyway, and as far as Uker, I'm in
Saint Peters with Florida, where the famous Cardinals train for
like sixty years. That he was in Saint Peters for
quite a bit when I was growing up as a kid,
used to see him around.

Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
Hello again. Yeah all right, Mark, appreciate your go ahead.

Speaker 21 (01:03:17):
I just want to get your opinion when I'm up there.
I want your opinion of the Tampa Bay Buccaneer franchise
because I think, you know, I think they're they're on
the right course. They've they've built a good uh good
court players and anything like that, and they got a
good owner and a good GM.

Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
Yeah sounds good. I have a good opinion on the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I think their future is bright. Uh
they've been to the playoffs five years in a row. Uh,
they got surprised at home. It surprised me. They they
had some injuries. I like Baker Manfield, I like their
coaching staff, and uh, you know, we'll see what they

(01:03:52):
get in the draft. And the best thing probably about
the Tampa Bay Bucks is they're in such a winnable
division and that NFC South is just a hot dumpster
fire mess. You know, Atlanta spends one hundred and eighty
million for quarterback. They don't get to the playoffs. Saints
had a ton of injuries, so not totally their fault,
but you know, Derek Carr now doesn't want to take

(01:04:13):
a pay structure. He's contract. And then you got Carolina
who's a long ways away, so they benefit from that.
But I love Liam calling their new offensive coordinator. He's
incredibly creative. Let's not forget we too. They went in
and beat Detroit in Detroit, so Tampa Bay can play.
Ladies and gentlemen demand the myth, the legend. You know
what I mean? Love, you can't live without him none
other than Manuel from Guardena, California. How's it going, man? Well?

(01:04:38):
Everything okay out there? Are you safe?

Speaker 10 (01:04:40):
Hey?

Speaker 5 (01:04:40):
Man?

Speaker 20 (01:04:41):
God, he's good.

Speaker 9 (01:04:42):
I am safe.

Speaker 7 (01:04:43):
The fires have not touched.

Speaker 22 (01:04:45):
Guardeen, I think, believe. But my prayers and my thoughts
are with everybody dealing with all these wildfires, for sure. Bernie, Bernie,
real quick.

Speaker 7 (01:04:56):
I want you to regale us with some tales of
when you were with the Lakers off air eventually, please,
I am absolutely, I just love. I want to hear
your insights.

Speaker 14 (01:05:10):
From those days. Man, that was a classic driving sport.

Speaker 7 (01:05:14):
Let's get to the brat text tonight.

Speaker 9 (01:05:17):
The Davis is man, that was a.

Speaker 7 (01:05:18):
Colossal mistake, Like Dilberto was saying, getting rid of to
let's go. But hey, man, I mean we'll see I hope,
I hope that whoever that they pick Brady Pigs you
kind of give him three or four years. It's one
year Craft. It's not gonna kind of cut it, man,
this year and a half. You know, two years here.

(01:05:40):
You gotta give the coaches and the staff three to
four years or else you're not gonna see Jack. As
far as Jerry Jones, you know, it's a circus. We
I think I'm with you, man, I don't think there's
no way in hell he lets Ion Sanders get in
there to steal the spotlight. He's gonna go with his
boy Kellen Wore and that gigantic dome that's on top

(01:06:04):
of his shoulders. But lastly we go to the American treasure.
Bob you certains man, he's from that yester year of baseball.

Speaker 22 (01:06:16):
That I fell in love with, that my dad fell
in love with that.

Speaker 7 (01:06:21):
We both you know, he's one of those few guys
man of Bob Uker and Ernie Harwell, Harry Carey. These
were just names and voices of the game, that Kurt
Gowdie that were just, I mean larger than life. You know,
we had vinceco.

Speaker 22 (01:06:38):
Year and you was an ambassador.

Speaker 6 (01:06:41):
Man.

Speaker 7 (01:06:42):
He was just such a classic, you know, funny guy
like you said, self deprecating and.

Speaker 18 (01:06:47):
He made the game better.

Speaker 11 (01:06:50):
God rest his soul.

Speaker 20 (01:06:51):
Man.

Speaker 7 (01:06:51):
We're gonna miss you.

Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
You love you, Bernie, thanks a lot. Always appreciate you.
Man well and agree with all those sentiments. Back upstate
New York, Jack and Syracuse joined us. Welcome in Jack.

Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
Hey, how you.

Speaker 10 (01:07:05):
Doing, Bernie?

Speaker 2 (01:07:06):
Well? Thank you.

Speaker 10 (01:07:08):
Yeah. On Dion, I can't decide if Jerry Jones, you know,
need for control is as great as his need for interest.
And Dion is going to bring the biggest interest to
Dallas maybe ever. And I think Jerry would love to
be in that big spotlight. But if you could put

(01:07:31):
one microphone on a table in front of the two
of them, it might be a great fight for who gets.

Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
You nailed it. That's the thing Jack and I really
want to see this happen. I Dick schafftab and a
root for the story. Here's what I think is going
to happen. At the end of the day, his advisors
will get him in a circle and say, Jerry, don't
do it. It all sounds good and you know you'll get
through the initial stages and it'll be all peaches and cream,

(01:07:57):
and then reality will set in and you'll lose a
couple of games and one thing leads to another, and
I don't think Dion deals with that well and the
both of them, you know, Jerry Metals, they left Dean
alone in Colorado. They should so anyway, I'm with you
on that, Jack anything on the Raiders.

Speaker 14 (01:08:13):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:08:14):
Even though I wasn't never a New England fan or
a Brady fan, I think Brady will not be attached
to something just for the money in the NFL. I
think he will bring some professionalism and maybe some self
control to Mark Davis so that better decisions are made.

(01:08:36):
I just don't think he wants to be involved with
a losing franchise.

Speaker 2 (01:08:41):
You know, he does, he done, but neither did John Elway,
and it took John Away a hell of a long
time to get the ball roll and then finally he
brought in Peyton Manning and they did steal the Super Bowl.
But l Way, by and large has been panned as
a GM and personnel director. And I love John Elway,

(01:09:01):
Stanford guy man, you know, So I don't know. I
don't know if the Raiders are going to return to
glory anytime soon.

Speaker 10 (01:09:07):
Yeah, and I don't I don't see Brady as a GM,
but just from the outside helping advise to get the
right people in there.

Speaker 4 (01:09:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:09:16):
I don't see him as a GM type though, but they.

Speaker 2 (01:09:18):
Sure are giving him a lot of poetical license when
it comes to this coaching. Are all right, thanks for
checking in, Jack, appreciate it. Mario and Pomona, welcome in.
How are you well in the first time?

Speaker 20 (01:09:29):
Call her man? What's happening?

Speaker 2 (01:09:30):
Hey, welcome in, Mario. Nice to have you.

Speaker 5 (01:09:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 20 (01:09:34):
So I've been I've been a Raider Nation all my life,
and I just want to speak a little bit about
the Raiders. I know, like he said that they're not
going to return to glory soon enough, but uh, you know,
we have TV twelve.

Speaker 4 (01:09:46):
At the Helm.

Speaker 20 (01:09:46):
He has a little part of ownership, and it's kind
of great because Mark Davis doesn't know what the hell
you're doing, you know. So, So I think I think
Tom Brady. I think everything he touches turns the gold.
So he's gonna have He's gonna he has relationships with
Ben Johnson, and I think with Ben Johnson, if we

(01:10:09):
get him at the head coach. I think we're gonna
be all right. Our outside is gonna be coming up,
because it's gonna be hard, because I know the AFC
West is getting stronger. The Chiefs are nine straight AFC championships,
uh a C West championships and UH Chargers and Denver
is looking good both Nick's is good with Denver and
Herbert with the Chargers. All we need is a quarterback.

(01:10:35):
We need to get our guy, and Tom Brady knows
how to spot talent. I just think if we could
get if we could get our guy a quarterback, and
if we get someone we have a good We got
a good amount of money with Casspace, we could.

Speaker 10 (01:10:48):
Get a team.

Speaker 4 (01:10:50):
We could get a T.

Speaker 20 (01:10:51):
Higgins a number one, and Dacobe Myers is a great
number two. I think the only players that we have
two players that we have that or with the crap
right now is UH Max Crosby and Brock Bowers.

Speaker 7 (01:11:05):
But if we can if we can get.

Speaker 4 (01:11:06):
Our guy at QB with a.

Speaker 20 (01:11:08):
Good coach and a good UH good GM good offensive coordinator,
I think we're gonna be all right. I know it's
I know it's gonna take a while. Like like the
uh goat callers said maybe three years, but uh, I
think we're gonna be okay. But yeah, it's gonna be
It's gonna be a while. It's not gonna be like
you know, like I said, Rome wasn't built in a day.

(01:11:29):
But we just need to get that Winnie culture back.
And I think Tom Brady he has his hands in it.
So I think it's gonna be really good. It's I
think it's gonna be good, a good future for the Raiders.

Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
What do you think, Well, listen, there's always a chance. Uh,
Sean Payton came in and rebuilt Denver fairly quickly, Jim
Harboss turning around the Chargers and uh, you know, we
don't already know about the Chiefs, so it can happen
and and so let's let it play out.

Speaker 23 (01:11:57):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:11:58):
But there they don't have a quarterback, and until they
and you can get one, maybe you don't draft one.
But anyway, I appreciate you, Mario, and I got a
lot of respect for the Raider Nation because here's the team.
You know. Al Davis got him out of Oakland and
moved to Los Angeles in the eighties. Raider Nation stuck
with him. They moved back to Oakland. Raad Our Nation

(01:12:19):
stuck with him. They moved to Las Vegas. Raider Nation
is as prevalent as ever. It's an amazing, amazing, genuine,
authentic fan base. Have a lot of respect for them.
A brock up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Welcome man, How
are you hey, Bernie?

Speaker 4 (01:12:36):
How are you doing? Man?

Speaker 2 (01:12:37):
Good? Thank you.

Speaker 8 (01:12:39):
So I was going to talk about.

Speaker 24 (01:12:40):
The Dion thing. I think, I think because him and
Jerry Jones, I think they have a pretty good relationship.
But I think, you know, it's me interesting. You know,
that's always an interesting situation in Dallas, Man.

Speaker 2 (01:12:56):
It's interesting, to say the least. The question is, when
put comes to shove, do you think Dion is the
head coach next year?

Speaker 4 (01:13:04):
I give it a fifty to fifty shot.

Speaker 2 (01:13:06):
It is probably fifty to fifty. Let's say he is
the head coach. Do they win meeting, get to the playoffs?
And does it work?

Speaker 17 (01:13:13):
Oh?

Speaker 24 (01:13:14):
Man, that's a tough question. I think I think that
they definitely have a shot. But you know, that's going
to be hard because I think, you know, you have
to look at it like the on success in college.
But I look at it both ways can you see
players like in college, like how good they are? But
it translates to the NFL in a different way. So
I think, you know it will all play out in
the way that I think how he gets how gets

(01:13:34):
players motivated, But I don't know, I think what walkth
the wait and see them?

Speaker 2 (01:13:39):
All right, thanks for checking in, don't be a stranger.
Coming up, we wrap up the midnight hours or scratch
Off will be next. And by the way, one particular
fan responded in Dallas Says, when referencing whether or not
Sanders should be hired, said, are you serious? Be serious?
He lacks experience, just five years as a college coach
and none of the pros so opinions run long widen

(01:14:02):
hard on dion will continue coming up. I'm Bernie Fraddle

Speaker 2 (01:14:27):
Right, Well, thank you, sir, Maybe you can be my agent.
What do we got for us tonight?

Speaker 16 (01:14:32):
Man, I'm gonna tell you something right now.

Speaker 23 (01:14:34):
I got n a ram going at the big.

Speaker 4 (01:14:36):
Time this year.

Speaker 16 (01:14:37):
We listen to me.

Speaker 23 (01:14:37):
Here's what I got going on. I got three pick here,
I gotta roll duct tape. I got a new quarterback,
and I got a coach going to Dallas Cowboys. I
can care less favorite played football in my life. I'm
not a Jerry Jones fan, so I'm gonna I'm gonna
award him with a big old road dunk taking fut
on that mouth of here. And I'm gonna get a
new court. I'm gonna get a new quarterback cause that

(01:14:59):
that if you'd like. Somebody's born in my NBA.

Speaker 6 (01:15:02):
They don't.

Speaker 10 (01:15:03):
They get hurt all the time.

Speaker 16 (01:15:05):
It comes coaches.

Speaker 23 (01:15:06):
They need to get a coach over that you coach.

Speaker 16 (01:15:08):
But not everybody tell you more today, But that's would be.

Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
About teeth to scratch off. Love you man, appreciate it.
Just you remember you're stuck with DAK unless you want
to get stuck with one hundred million dollars cap hit
you stay safe out there.

Speaker 18 (01:15:19):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:15:20):
We'll hear from you again.

Speaker 10 (01:15:21):
All right.

Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
We wrap it up with Kirk in California. Kurt, what
do you got for us tonight, man, bar Yes, sir,
you're up.

Speaker 16 (01:15:28):
It's good to talk to you again, Burnt.

Speaker 15 (01:15:31):
As for the Dallas Cowboys, mister Jones, in my opinion,
is just is his worst His is his own worst enemy.
As for a quarterback for the Oakland Raid, I'm sorry
the West Agus Raiders. If the Minnesota Vikings don't franchise
tag Sam Donald. I have a theory that he may

(01:15:54):
get a call from Tom Brady.

Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
I thought the same thing. I've thought the same I
know there's a deal to be done there. The Vikings
would be taking a risk. But if you think about
trusting your first instinct, there's a reason they drafted JJ
McCarthy and it didn't end well, you're not wrong. I
can't prove it. I haven't heard that, but think about it,
think about it. That's viable.

Speaker 15 (01:16:17):
You know when it comes to Sam Donald. I'm sure
you've heard this cliche. Success has a thousand fathers and
failures and orphan yep. And at the end of the season,
that's what ended up with That's what happened to Sam Donald.
He was dependable. He played all sixteen games, if I'm

(01:16:39):
not mistaken, and the kid is as tough as can be,
and he's starting to get his mechanics right. He just
ran out of gas at the end of the year.
And like I said, this is redundant. I would not
be surprised if Brady reaches out to him if he
doesn't get franchise tags.

Speaker 2 (01:16:57):
The Raiders have caproom, and I give it a chance,
and I do hope they stick with Darnold. Actually, but
that is very much on the table. Do you think
real quickly, Kurt, will Prime be the Cowboys next coach?

Speaker 4 (01:17:09):
Yes?

Speaker 17 (01:17:09):
Or no?

Speaker 6 (01:17:10):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:17:10):
No, I'm with you. I think it starts to sink
under its own weight.

Speaker 15 (01:17:16):
Yeah, you were absolutely right about that Ohio State Oregon game.

Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
Well, thank you. I think they're gonna I think they're
gonna handle Notre Dame as well. Thanks Kurt. I had
a time clock management again tonight. I appreciate you as always.
The Buckeyes have scored fifty nine points, are gonna last
three games. It's a bad matchup for Notre Dame. They're
gonna compete, but I feel like Ohio State wins this
game and probably covers the number ever so quickly. If

(01:17:42):
not Dion, who in Dallas? It looks like the Cowboys
fans have three names that they can live with. The
first one is Kellen Moore. He's the offensive coordinator for
the Eagles who's still working this weekend. But he spent
five years in Dallas before the Cowboys got tired of him,
and fans remember him. They like him, although some feel

(01:18:04):
it might just be another replay at Jason Garrett. Then
there's Ben Johnson, Okay, he led the poll mainly because
of his high Q rating. And then finally Pete Carroll,
the only other coach with any votes. He's already interviewed
with the Bears and Raiders. That might not be a
bad deal. I don't know how those two get along.
But make no mistake, Dion Sanders would take the Dallas job.

(01:18:26):
Don't think for a minute he would not take that job.
He's already I mean, he is a candidate. They did
admit that Dion and Jerry spoke about a position in
a recent phone call. The call became public and after
Mike McCarthy and Dallas agreed to part ways. This rumor
has picked up steam. So the next question, is Jerry

(01:18:49):
tender Dion an official offer that Dion would accept. I
think Dion wants to be there. You can see this
coming a mile away. I don't think it's going to
happen though. Coming up Locked Breeze three Movie round Table.

It's entertainment.

Speaker 1 (01:20:08):
It's good. It's Breeze three.

Speaker 2 (01:20:12):
Okay, take it away, alrighty.

Speaker 25 (01:20:14):
So, with the Jade and Daniels having a successful rookie
season so far and a huge victory in the wildcard
round last weekend against the Bucks, I was thinking, so,
who are only three actors that had successful rookie like
acting debuts, So since you know, he's having a really
successful postseason debut, So the first one I went was

(01:20:36):
Julie Andrews and Mary Poppins, so you know, nineteen sixty four.
So she had already had had some success on Broadway
like overseas and here, and she even had secured like
a few like Tony nominations.

Speaker 26 (01:20:51):
I can cross her off my list now.

Speaker 25 (01:20:53):
Oh and so Walt Disney had seen her performance in Camelot,
and so he went backstage to offer her the leading
role in the movie that he had originally kind of been.
You know, ready to get going. And she was pregnant
at the time, so she was like, oh my god,
I'm pregnant, but like you know, afterwards, and then so
she eventually, like you know, nine months later, moved to

(01:21:14):
the United States and her and her husband were both hired,
and obviously she was the lead actress and her husband
was like a designer and so yeah, so she received
thirty thirteen Academy Award nominations, so kind of different than
Jade and Daniels. So I think he's going to be
like Rookie of the Year for sure.

Speaker 13 (01:21:32):
But yeah, So.

Speaker 25 (01:21:33):
Julie Andrews The Mary Poppins the movie received thirteen Accade
the nominations and then so she won Best Actress. So yeah,
and then eventually, you know, she had obviously went on
and had a successful acting career. The second one was
Cameron Diaz in The Mask, And so she was twenty
one years old when that movie came out, you know,

(01:21:54):
starring you know, Jim Carrey and her, and she was
and so she was a model in Japan, like she
had modeled like a few different you know things in Japan.
And Anna Nicole Smith was originally linked to the role
Wow yeah, and so the director like just you know,
like you know, Cameron Diaz came in and you know,

(01:22:14):
he was like, you know what, I think like she
doesn't have experience, but I think, like, you know, she
could do something. And then she had really good chemistry
with Jim Carrey and Jim Carey also really liked her.
So that was my second one. And then the third
one I went Alan Rickman and died. Yeah, right, Hans Gruber.
So he was forty two when the movie premiered, and

(01:22:36):
I didn't know that. I actually had like no idea that,
so that was kind of shocking, and I don't I
think it's kind of like kind of well known. But
that famous last scene, you know, yeah, it was supposed
to be like three two one, and they when they
dropped him, but they they didn't. They actually just dropped
him at like one, like you know, and that was it,
you know, one, two, three, and then they just dropped him.

(01:22:57):
So when he looked surprised, he was truly surprised and shocked.
So that's like that's like truly acting on like a
whole other level. And so obviously Alan Rickman like rest
in Peace, but you know, had a very successful act
acting career as well. So those were my three, Julie Andrews,
Cameron Diaz, and Alan Rickman.

Speaker 2 (01:23:17):
Right, and Mark, give your reasons as well, you.

Speaker 26 (01:23:21):
Know, please, Oh, I'm gonna give my three right now.

Speaker 2 (01:23:25):
But I'm saying even if we all have some of
the same ones, you know, the observations, you know, you
can give your reasons as well.

Speaker 26 (01:23:31):
Oh, just because well mine is more academic and that
when I typed in this the basic question, I got
a bunch of names and I did it again and
I got twenty names of other people, so that I
was able to find some older names. Sorry, but the
so yeah, but I mean I had those names on
my list because there's a certain group of people that,

(01:23:52):
you know, their first time movie made a big, big
deal and sort of put them in the spotlight and
kind of started them off as a star because of
their first movie. So the one I'm gonna pick is
Ed Norton for Primal Fear. He was in that movie
and that was a big, big movie.

Speaker 13 (01:24:11):
Yeah, that.

Speaker 2 (01:24:13):
Was Richard Gear as well. He was a lawyer, right, yes, yes,
And Ed Norton.

Speaker 26 (01:24:18):
I've watched him play The Hulk and various other things
like the Yeah, there's another one I'm thinking about that
I can't come to mind. But Ed North's my first
one from Primal Fear. My next one I picked is
Natalie Portman. She was in The Professional that was a
really good movie for me. And then my third one

(01:24:39):
is gonna be Natalie Wood for her movie. She was
in Miracle on thirty fourth Street. So that those are
my three. I just like I said, I I just
put in the question and a bunch of names came up,
and so I just thought it was funny because I
was scratching him off as Brie was saying them.

Speaker 1 (01:24:56):
I had that one.

Speaker 26 (01:24:57):
I had that one almost like a little being goo
car So Ed Norton, Nettalie Portman, and then Natalie Wood.
What do you have, Bernie?

Speaker 2 (01:25:06):
Okay, So I'm gonna start with a double shot. I
just had to go with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck
and I know for Goodwill Hunting, I know, maybe they'd
had some bit rolls. No one knew who these guys
were before nineteen ninety six ninety seven. They just didn't.
And we're talking about coming out of the gate when
when we all time iconic movies filmed in Boston then

(01:25:27):
the other thing too, is it won multiple Academy Awards,
and it completely spawned both of their careers to be
you know, top of the line, frontline actors with a
lot of range. You know, got Matt Damon involved in
in you know, the other action series. And then they
were reunited in twenty twenty three for the movie Air,

(01:25:48):
and they still maintained that same tremendous chemistry. So Matt
Damon and Ben Affleck, even though they haven't worked a
hell of a lot since Goodwill Hunting together, they're kind
of joined at the hip and can you imagine a
bigger debut with the Academy Awards, the notoriety of the movie,
the acclaim, they got the critical acclaim, and then of

(01:26:08):
course twenty seven years later, they're still knocking around with
huge careers, megastars, and they were reunited for Air. That
leaves one and I couldn't resist. It had to be
Hailey Joel Osman for me, Who the hell was Hailey
Joe Osmond? Before sixth Sense became I See Dead People.
Bruce Willis he went out to have, you know, a career,

(01:26:30):
He's not exactly Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, but you
talk about coming out of the gate as a kid
actor for the Sixth Sense in that movie, they really
had I think a lot of wide critical acclaim and
enjoying from people. And Haley Joel Osman three names. The
name just kind of rolls off, you know, and that's
how people know him because the Sixth Sense, So that was,

(01:26:53):
to the best of my knowledge.

Speaker 26 (01:26:54):
Is his debut movie his debut or sixth Sense?

Speaker 2 (01:27:00):
Well, listen, listen. It's just like Matt Damon was in
that movie with Brendan Fraser about the football quarterback. He
was sitting at the table eating dinner, said, I can
have some of that green stuff. They might have been
in movies, but I consider the debut is when you're
one of the chief protragonists, right, you're one of the
lead actors.

Speaker 13 (01:27:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 25 (01:27:16):
I was gonna say, yeah, I agree, And I was
thinking just child actors, Nicholas Holt and about a boy
was he was a child actor and now he's like
you know in that nas Raw Too and all other
movies to like Durre Number two and everything else.

Speaker 2 (01:27:32):
All right, I like the range good good good topic
tonight and makes you it makes you think of you know,
he's Jayden Daniels that come out of the gate all
of a sudden. My goodness, we first rookie to win
a playoff and so it once again ties in two movies.
So you have a breeze three uh movie round table.

Speaker 26 (01:27:51):
By the way, I mentioned, I'm sorry, well go ahead.
Mark Eddie Murphy in forty eight Hours. That was big
for him.

Speaker 2 (01:27:58):
Yeah, that I think it's all about using that one. Uh,
because I thought, but I thought he was in Beverly
Hills Cop before forty eight Hours. No, Uh, the back
forty eight was was first okay with Nick Nolty. Uh, Yeah,
that was excellent.

Speaker 26 (01:28:11):
Him singing Roxanne.

Speaker 2 (01:28:13):
That was before the jail sale. So you know what's
interesting is when Eddie Murphy decided he was going to
vacate his Saturday Night live career, which was very successful.
He was panned by the critics. You out in your mind,
and look what he did. He winded up ended up
being a big.

Speaker 26 (01:28:27):
Time movie star and Christian Bail Empire of the Sun. Okay,
he was a kid when he did that movie, but
that was one of his first movies.

Speaker 2 (01:28:35):
So I did not see that one.

Speaker 26 (01:28:37):
And Johnny Depp A Nightmare on Elm Street I'm done.
I'm done with with names now.

Speaker 2 (01:28:43):

the Minnesota Vikings in hopes of perhaps trading for their coach,
Kevin O'Connell. Subsequent to that, you may have also heard

(01:29:25):
that there was this, Well, it was a comment made
somewhat unjest. Why don't the Kyle but Jimmy Johnson? I
think maybe, why don't the Cowboys trade Mike McCarthy to
Pittsburgh he's a Pittsburgh guy, and trade Mike Tomlin to Dallas.
That could work. Both situations are stale, both coaches might

(01:29:47):
have an effect. I bet you didn't know. Yes, you
can trade coaches in the NFL. And when you go
back through the history of coaches have been traded way
do you hear some of these names? At the backstory

get off the air. Well, the coaching cycle carousel is
off and running now that Mike Rabel has been hired.
We're waiting for the dominoes to fall who's Max Ben Johnson.

(01:31:07):
I don't know. But what's interesting is, as part of
the narrative this year, an unknown team reached out to
the Minnesota Vikings and said, are you interested in trading
for your coach? We'd like to get Kevin o'connoll, who
would and he's done a hell of a job and
people might be scratching here and say what. And then

(01:31:29):
Jimmy Johnson got Jimmy Johnson, Dallas Cowboy head coach, two
time champion and broadcaster and Miami Hurricanes and Oklahoma State
and all that. He blurted out, not so facetiously, Hey,
maybe maybe Pittsburgh and uh, and then Cowboys should just

(01:31:50):
trade coaches. They're both stale, their situations have become very stale. Well,
now we know it's not gonna happen because Dallas doesn't
have you know, MacArthur under contract. McCarthy's a Pittsburgh guy.
Say say, Mike mccarthury, you go to Pittsburgh, maybe you
can do something with that team. And of course, Mike Tomlin,
you go to Dallas. Obviously didn't happen. But back to

(01:32:14):
the concept of itself, back to the subject matter trading,
NFL coaches.

Speaker 4 (01:32:20):
Is that a thing?

Speaker 2 (01:32:22):
Yes, there's a history of coach trades in the NFL.
It usually involves players or draft picks, or sometimes head
coaches or trade. It's rare when it happens, okay, but
it is within the NFL rules. To trade coaches in
the NFL has a simple procedure. The coach's current team

(01:32:44):
owns the coaches' rights. They can trade his rights to
any other prospective team who's interested in trading back, and
once the trade is complete, the coach then has to
negotiate a new contract with the franchise they were acquired by. Now,
this type of trade is very complicated to pull off
because first of all, it requires the coach being interested

(01:33:05):
in a move. Then their current team has to be
open to trading into what have ultimately is going to
be a rival at some point. And then the perspective
team has to be willing to exchange assets, which is
usually draft picks, in order to acquire the coach. But
it hasn't presented a number of pretty high profile deals
that have gone down in NFL history. In fact, there

(01:33:25):
are eight very well known coaches who have been traded
in NFL history. I guess it stands to reason, right,
you're not going to be looking to trade Josh McDaniels.
What are you get trading for a bag of balls
and a six pack of beer? The guy that got
the beer would be better off of that side. We
go back to nineteen seventy, the first year of the

(01:33:46):
merger and the first ever coach involved in a trade. Yep,
wait for it, Don Shula. Don Shula traded of Dontula
was with the Baltimore Colts and they traded Sheula to
the Miami Dolphins for one first round pick. That was it,

(01:34:09):
nineteen seventy How did it work out? Will you tell me?
Sula helped Miami win two Super Bowls back to back
in seventy two and seventy three. They went to a third,
couldn't win it, and Don Shula still owns the only
perfect season in league history seventeen oh to oh in
nineteen seventy two. And everybody forgets Miami's Hall of Fame

(01:34:31):
quarterback that year, Bob Grease. He got hurt after Game
six and they had to go to a backup ro moral.
That only adds to the luster. Those were some great
Dolphins teams, though, so imagine that Don Shula. Now twenty
seven years went by before this happened again. But who
was the coach involved? Yes, wait for it, Bill Parcells. Yes,

(01:34:54):
Bill Parcells was traded. The New York Jets traded a
first round draft choice, a second, third, and fourth round
pick to the New England Patriots and they they acquired
Bill Parcells. So Parcells went from the Patriots to the Jets.
Now how did it work out? Well, they only went

(01:35:16):
to the playoffs once in three seasons, but they did
get to the AFC Championship Game in nineteen ninety eight
before losing to Denver. So imagine. The first two coaches
ever traded were Don Shula and Bill Parcells. Two years later,
in nineteen ninety nine, another big time coaches traded. And
trust me, this guy is no Ham and Egger either.

(01:35:37):
I'm quite sure you've heard of the legendary Mike Holmgren,
and he is if you understand offense and quarterbacking and
what he meant to Bill Walsh. Mike Holgrin was with
the Packers and the Seattle Seahawks wanted them. They got Holmgren.
The Seahawks did for a second round pick. That's it.

(01:35:58):
One second round pick. How did it work out? Pretty
good for the Seahawks if.

Speaker 4 (01:36:03):
You asked me.

Speaker 2 (01:36:04):
Seattle made the playoffs six times under Mike Homren, including
the Super Bowl appearance during the five season. That Super
Bowl was played in Detroit, super Bowl forty against the
Pittsburgh Steelers. I covered that super Bowl. The Pittsburgh Steelers prevailed,
but Holmgren, who looked a lot like the friendly Waalris
little like Grandy Reid, had quite a storied NFL career.

(01:36:25):
So don shula, Bill Parcells, Mike Holmgren, are you kidding me?
All right? This next name? You're gonna say? What huh?
In two thousand, because you've forgotten another coach was traded
from the Jets to the New England Patriots. Yep, you
guessed it, Bill Belichick. The Patriots wanted Belichick. Remember he

(01:36:48):
took the job of the Jets and one day later
said I don't want to be here. The Patriots traded
a first, fourth, and fifth round pick to the Jets
to get Bill Parcells. How did that work out? I
don't know. Maybe not that great, right Belichick? I could
only spent twenty three seasons in New England, only won
six Super Bowls. Got to what nine of them with
Tom Brady, and you know again, even before Belichick I

(01:37:10):
ever got there. Remember, and I say this, I don't
say this other than any of the most complimentary way
the Bill Parcells never won a Super Bowl without Bill
Belichick by his side. Bill Belichick was the defensive coordinator
for those great New York Giants teams in eighty seven
when they stuffed Denver and then back again in ninety
one when Bill Parcells and that defense stifled Jim Kelly

(01:37:34):
and Marv Levy and the K gun offense. Two Super
Bowls before he got to New England. But he was
traded just like Mike colgrin Bill Parcells and Don Shula.
I'm not done two years later. Again. So after not
happening for twenty seven years, now, this is the fifth
time in five years the next coach involved. Yeah you've

(01:37:55):
heard of this guy too, God by the name of
John Gruden. John Gruden was with the Oaken Raiders, and
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers said, we kind of want John Gruden,
so they engaged in a trade with the Oaken Raiders
now the Oaka Raiders. Well, they got two first round

(01:38:15):
picks for Gruden and eight million cash. Okay, a little
bit better, Steakes? How did it work out for Tampa Bay?
The very next season, John Gruden won his only Super
Bowl with his very with the Bucks in his very
first season. Spent about six years there. Did okay, but
won a Super Bowl. I would argue it was with

(01:38:37):
Tony Dungee's players, but he did it. So John Gruden,
Bill Belichick, Mike Holmgren, Bill Parcells, Don Shula coaches traded
the next one. This didn't happen for four years later. Now,
this gentleman obviously is famous for saying you played to
win the game. He didn't win a lot though. As
a head coach. Herm Edwards was with the Jets and

(01:39:02):
the Kansas City chief says, will trade a fourth round
pick if you give us Herm Edwards, and the Jet
said okay, and Herm Edwards got to the Jets. Checked
that got to the Chiefs and O six. Lasted four
years and won a total of fifteen games in four years.
He was only fifteen and thirty three, and he ended

(01:39:23):
up getting fired. Now, before that, Gruden won a super Bowl,
Belichick had won Super bowls, Holmgrun got to a Super Bowl,
Parcels well, he didn't win a Super Bowl with the
with the with the Jets, but got to the se
Championship game, and then you already know about Don Shula.
So Herm Edwards was basically the first coach in this
coaching tree that yes was traded and yes has a

(01:39:48):
big recognizable name, but didn't exactly fare great when it
came to his tenure. He had to wait another thirteen
years before there was another coaching trade. But fast forward
to twenty nineteen and the next trade involved the affable
Bruce Arians. Becuz the Arizona Cardinals Arians had taken over

(01:40:13):
an animum roll and did very well, and the Tampa
Bay Bucks says, hey, we'll trade for coach Arians, and
the Buccaneers got Bruce Arians for one sixth round pick.
How did it work out? Well? His second year with
Tampa Bay, he got some guy named Tom Brady, and
with Bruce Arians at the home of Tom Brady quarterbacking,

(01:40:37):
you know, they won a Super Bowl, they hammered Kansas City,
and then finally in twenty twenty one, just you know,
three years later he retired. Bruce Arians retired after a
second postseason appearance with Tampa Bay. But there's another coach
traded that actually delivered a Super Bowl. Now it happened
one other time, since this was very recent, and you

(01:40:57):
should remember this because it just happened. In twenty twenty three,
the Denver Broncos had their eyes on a coach, Bill
Parcell's disciple, a guy who had a lot of success
in one of Super Bowl in New Orleans. Even though
he hadn't been coaching in New Orleans for the past
few years, the Saints still held his rights. The Denver

(01:41:20):
Broncos said, we kind of like to get us some
Sean Payton. So what did they do? They reached out
to the Saints. They offered a first round pick and
a third round pick, and Vola. The next thing you know,
Sean Payn's with the Broncos. I thought he did a
hell of a job this year. It only took two years.
There are a couple players away, but they're building. They've
got their quarterback at Bonix, made the playoffs the second year,

(01:41:42):
went to Buffalo in a game you'd expect him to
not win, and they didn't. But when you look at
the Broncos future, it looks pretty bright to me. In
that defense. The irony is had they gotten past Buffalo.
They actually matched up better against Kansas City. It's just
one of those odd things. And I think they might
had been caught looking ahead a little bit, because Sean

(01:42:03):
Payton said as much. Maybe not, you can't tell if
you're just looking ahead. But that, to me is one
hell of an impressive roll call. When you go back
to nineteen seventy and you even just disgusting the mere
concept of trading NFL coaches, which is so foreign to people.
But Don Shula in nineteen seventy, Bill Parcels in ninety seven,

(01:42:25):
Mike Holmgren, it's ninety nine, Bill Belichick a year later,
two years after that, John Gruden, Herm Edwards in twenty
oh six, jumped to twenty nineteen Bruce Arians and then,
of course Sean Payton two years ago. Peyton, well, he
hasn't gotten the Broncos to a Super Bowl yet, but
don't write him off. He could do it. Brucerians got
through a Super Bowl, John Gruden, Bill Belichick, Holmgren got

(01:42:49):
to one but didn't win. Of course, Parcels and Schuli
you know what happened there. And then Herm Edwards is
someone the only outlier of the Bunch in terms of
being a coach that didn't necessarily have success with the team.
He was traded through fifteen and thirty three. So yes,
NFL trades involving players, common draft picks, common head coaches rare,

(01:43:10):
but it's happened more in recent years. And I think
a lot of people said, huh when they heard someone
mentioning about Kevin O'Connell being traded from the Vikings. We
know it was never going to happen, but it was
talked about. And then of course Jimmy Johnson, you know,
referencing why isn't Dallas and Pittsburgh just trade coaches? Tomlin
to Dallas and McCarthy to Pittsburgh. He was serious, because, yes,

(01:43:35):
this has in fact happened before. Will it happened again?

Speaker 13 (01:43:39):
You never know.

Speaker 2 (01:43:41):

(01:44:03):
We wrap up the show and I have some final
thoughts about Dion Sanders in Dallas, how the fans thought,
and that whole situation, because let's face it, it's just
simply a story that ain't going away anytime soon until
Jerry hired somebody. Jerry likes the limelight. So do you
get the feeling I certainly do that Jerry's gonna drag

(01:44:27):
this out and milk it. And they are, you know,
they're interviewing I think they're even interviewing Robert Sala. Good dude,
but come on, man, they're not going to hire Robert Sala.
And then the other thing, you know, they're I think
they're interviewing Kelenor. But isn't he just a replay of Jason?
You know, Jason Clap. I mean, and I liked the guy.
He was a quarterback in Dallas. He I thought he
did a serve a little job, Jason Garrett. So that's

(01:44:49):
not making a splash. So what do you do? Do
you make a splash and hire Dion?

Speaker 18 (01:44:53):
What do you do?

Speaker 2 (01:44:54):
Would Dan take the job. I'll give you my thoughts,
and finally, as we wrap up the show, tonight. Look,
you know the Bob Yucker. You know, the humorist, the
the everyman, the TV star, the announcer, the legend and commercials,
the fixture on. Johnny Carson also played in the major leagues,
even played the World Series in sixty four. But I'm

(01:45:16):
going to share with you a side of Uker. You
did not know. The guy was tougher than a two
dollars stake, especially the last thirty five years of his life.
My Bernie Friddle were coming to you line from the
Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Tarrat dot Com studios. Keep
it locked right here. You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle
Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, wrapping it up
by the Bernie Fradtle Show, Fox Sports Radio, coming to
live from the Tarrack dot Com studios here in a

(01:45:38):
Las Vegas. Before I go any further, I want to
thank my broadcast team back in Los Angeles be with
me since eleven pm Pacific time on Saturday night, Mark
and Brianna turning all the dials, keeping us glue together,
keeping the trend on the tracks running smoothly. Really appreciate
the efforts. Excellent job all the way around. Before I

(01:45:59):
get to Bob you ocre in my tribute all just
a couple thoughts on Dion. Do not kid yourself. Dion
would not only take this job, he wants the job.
This is not speculation. This is coming from insiders, people
like veteran NFL reporter Ed Warder, who's been around the

(01:46:19):
Cowboys since you know, Moby Dick was a minno. And
not only is Coach Prime apparently interested, but apparently his
inner circle people are telling him take the position. Well,
he's not been offered yet, but what's also been reported
that Jerry Jones is very enamored of the idea. And

(01:46:39):
it seemed to just happened out of thin air? Or
did it? Sanders appeared to all of a sudden rise
to the forefront of at least being a candidate and
I see candidate in air quotes to become the head
next coach after we revealed that him and Jerry Jones.
Dion and Jerry had a phone call, and the call

(01:47:01):
came right after the Cowboys and Mike McCarthy agreed to
part ways and Fox Sports reported there was very much
mutual interest between Prime and Jerry Jones. Okay, so how
does this manifest itself in a practical manner, because all
they do is have a phone call and then you
get these quotes. And here's what g Dion said, quote

(01:47:24):
to hear from Jerry Jones. He is truly delightful, and
it's intriguing. I know Jerry, and I believe in Jerry.
After you hang up and process it and you think
about it, it's intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything
about there is the team and the coaches and the
students by the community. I'm missing the sentence where it says,
but I'm gonna stay in Boulder. I like what I've

(01:47:45):
started here, and I got it made, and I got
all the job security. I can coach here for the
next seventy four years. They know me, they love me,
they can't leave without me. I'll bring in more anil guys.
I'll have more quotes. And he didn't say that, did he?
He did not say that. How hard would it have
been to say that? Still, amid all the speculation, all
the rumors, all the conjecture, there's nothing set in place

(01:48:09):
between the two. There's talk. Talk is cheap, and there's
an old saying. When all is said and done, more
is usually said than done. But you can't say that
this story doesn't have legs, Okay, And I know that
everyone's intrigued with the idea. Jerry Jones is intrigued. They

(01:48:29):
both know each other. They don't really have to have
a hell of a lot of conversations because they got
about thirty years of history. Dion won a Super Bowl
with the Cowboys as a player. But again, the Cowboys
have actually set up other formal interviews with other candidates,
but not a formal interview with Dion. They're just talking,
all right. But I am following this because I would

(01:48:52):
like to see it happen. As a matter of fact,
there was a cryptic message that Adam Schefter said he
received from a high level NFL exec over a year ago.
Adam Schefter revealed that he had, quote an unnamed NFL
general manager call him up and say, I want you
to write this down right now. This is over a

(01:49:13):
year ago, that the next head coach of the Dallas
Cowboys is going to be Dion Sanders. Take it to
the bank because of the respect that exists between Dion
Sanders and Jerry Jones and vice versa. End of quote. Now,
Deanna said multiple times throughout the year. He intends to
stay with Colorado build it back into a national contender,

(01:49:36):
and even said early on when they were starting to
have success, I'm not going to coach in the NFL.
That's for me. Guys gonna walking in with their briefcases
and cell phones. I'm paraphrasing. I'm not saying Dion said that,
but deansa coach, DeAnza teacher, DeAnza men or DeAnza surrogate.
Father's going to have a job in college. I think
there are horses for courses. I'd love to see him
stay at Colorado, but I'd really like to see him

(01:49:57):
go to Dallas. I won't see what he can do
if he stayed Colorado. There are thoughts that, well, if
Chador is not going to Dallas, well why would he
go there. Well, look, Chador's not going back to Colorado,
and he intends to stay there. I don't think there's
any other team that's on Dion's radar in terms of
an NFL head coaching position that would really legitimately want Dion.
I know Dion who also was interested in the Raiders.

(01:50:18):
They had no interest. Okay, I think Dion is a
walking success in life, period. But I do not think
you would have success with Dallas. I think he would
feel spectacularly because he's not going to have control. I mean,
at Colorado they can go out and buy players. They
can you know, you want to go play for Dion?
Oh my god, yes people will, But that's not the

(01:50:42):
same in the NFL. They're not as enamored by that.
You'd be surprised some guys would be. And then there's
Jerry In. One of the callers said, you know, there's
one microphone, they're going to fight over it. You're done right,
they are what happens if he started losing and Dallas's
media swoops down. They got a lot of savvy, veteran
media people there that know how to call you out
if you're not having success. Didn't go well and Boulder

(01:51:05):
Dion bans some reporters. He doesn't like to be called out.
Tell me that's not going to happen. Well, he went
from four to eight Colorado to nine and four, and
for a minute there, the Buffs actually looked like they
might have a shot to be in the Big twelve
title game. But then they got exposed because they're good,
but they're not that good. But they had the eventual
Heisman Trophy winner who wanted to play for Dion, great

(01:51:28):
two way player, would be a high draft pick, and
his own son. He has another son in a defensive back, Shiloh,
who's important piece, and all those guys are getting ready
to leave Colorado and then of the NFL draft, so
you know, Sanders says he intended to stay Colorado, but
he did leave a hint. There's one exception he would take,
and he said, but I would want to coach my son.
So the more I talk, the more confusing the story gets.

(01:51:52):
Jerry is either going to offer him the job or not.
If he offers him the job, I believe strongly unless
Jerry tries a low ball or something, that Dan will
take the job. What does it all mean, pee wee.
It means it's not going to happen because Jerry's going
to sit around and the advisors are going to sit
around the same way he wanted to draft Johnny Manziel
twelve years ago and they said, Jerry, you're not doing it,

(01:52:13):
and he listened to his advisors. And I think at
the end of the day, that's what's going to happen here.
Hoping I am wrong, you cannot tell me. This would
be incredible. All right, I have to talk about Bob Bucker.
One of the most well known, beloved broadcasters. You've heard.
Larry Sorenson, the major league pitcher ten years, very good
friend of mine. Larry and I and coach travel baseball

(01:52:34):
together Michigan. Larry pitched ten years in the big leagues.
He knew Bob Bucker very well. Bob Buker was calling
James when Larry was pitching about Larry had a no
hitter going into the eighth any one night in New
York and there's seventy nine and Bob was on the call.
He's played that on the air. I told him, come
back on my show and we'll play that. Pretty cool.

(01:52:55):
Hucker was a phenomenal announcer. He brought you, he brought
the funny, he brought stories. He is wit, charisma, He
loved baseball, He knew baseball. He was a fixture in
the state of Wisconsin. Bob Bucker created a legacy that
will last forever. And he made contributions to the game
on and off the field. And he did it with
a certain humility, and he did it for a certain,

(01:53:17):
you know, every man quality that people could relate to
in a generosity. But she didn't know that. Bob Buker
actually played catcher in the big leagues for six seasons
in the early sixties. And you know, he signed his
first professional contract with the Milwaukee Braves at the time
in fifty six. And he joked around. He said, they
offered me. They told me they wanted to sign me

(01:53:38):
for three thousand bucks, which truly ticked my dad off
because he didn't have that kind of money. But he
was always self deprecating, right, you know, hit a home
run off Sandy Kofax. They asked him after the game,
how do you feel about that? He said, I thought
I might have cost Cofax his chance to go to
the Hall. And you know, Bob, did you ever catch
a no hit or no But I was on the
other side of a few of them. How'd you feel
about that? He goes, well, I did my part. You know.

(01:54:00):
A fixture on Johnny Carson appeared on the show a
Hotter Times, became Mister Belvedere George Owens. It was a
successful ABC sitcom, and then of course hit a real
grand slam when he landed the role with Harry Doyle
in Major League here's the bob Yucker you didn't know.
Bob Ucker had a hell of a lot of health

(01:54:21):
scares starting in nineteen ninety one that led to eleven surgeries.
Now he died at ninety, so that means in ninety
one he was still fifty seven years old. He was
throwing batting practice every day back then, and one day
he developed a lower back pain and all of a
sudden he needed surgery for an aordal aneurysm in his
abdominal area. Somehow they found it by accident. It was

(01:54:43):
a potentially life threatening condition. Then he made it a
few more years, and in two thousand and nine, doctors
found tumors on Bob Ucker's pancreas, which they removed since then.
Since two thousand and nine, beginning at the age of
what whatever, he needed insulin ever since then. In twenty ten,

(01:55:05):
his fortieth year in the Brewers Booth, and Bob Bucker
has told this story a thirty for thirty, he temporarily
lost his vision in the middle of a broadcast while
calling a game a live game in Milwaukee with his partner,
Corey Provis, who was his partner at the time at
Wrigley Field. The doctors did an examination, they found out

(01:55:27):
he had a leaky heart valve. It required six hours
of open art surgery, and then they found out a
couple months later he still had the same issue and
he needed another open art surgery for a staff infection.
He survived, it, came back and broadcasted another fourteen years.

(01:55:47):
Then there was twenty seventeen. Bob Yucker was changing a
light bulb in an outdoor fixture where he lived in Scottsdale, Arizona,
and all of a sudden, he's bitten on the leg
by what was called a bra on a recluse spider.
He told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel he needed a procedure
to completely cut away the affected flesh and the moon

(01:56:09):
and only way it would heal was to remain open.
Of course, Bob Buker took full advantage of that. He
took pictures of his cell phone to show his friends
and hopefully they had strong stomachs. But then Bob had
cancer again. And what's interesting, it was spring training in
nineteen and twenty twenty three. Excuse that a gentleman by

(01:56:30):
the name of Lane Grendel, the TV guy, said he
was just sitting there having a conversation with Bob Buker,
who knows what they were talking about, the weather, the
stock market, sports, and all of a sudden, just casually says, oh,
I have cancer. Grindel says, what this is on the
air during a break, during an inning switch and then
they go right back on the air. They do a

(01:56:50):
half inning, they go into the next break and Grendel
says to him, can you elaborate please? And Youker said no,
and he didn't. But then after Bob Uker got confirmation
exactly what he was up against, he spent the last
eighteen months to almost twenty four months in radiation and chemotherapy,

(01:57:11):
and some days he would come to the ballpark right
after the radiation and still do the game. People around
him marveled. They kept it quiet. They knew what was happening.
They said, how in the world is he going to
do a game tonight? But all of a sudden, the
light would go on, the mic was hot, and the
music started, and then all of a sudden, something otherworldly
came out and it was Bob Yuker taking control of

(01:57:33):
the situation, and he would go right into broadcaster mode.
They said, it was nothing short of incredible. Bob Buker humorist, actor,
baseball player, Johnny Carson, comedian, a fan favorite. I can't
I could do four hours of supertives. At the end though,

(01:57:55):
they said he had the heart of a lion. And
that's the Bob Yucker you probably never knew. Bob Yuker
passes away at ninety. Baseball just won't be the same again.
All Right, it's gonna do for the Bernie Frale Show.
I'll be back Saturday night at eleven pm. Keep it
locked up. Next The Fellas, Fox Sports Radio,
