Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Gerry.
Speaker 3 (00:04):
I don't know about you, but I feel like we've
got a full NFC Championship game that's already taken place
in the first half. We have another thirty minutes to go.
But so much happened in that first half between Washington
and Philadelphia. I have no idea what to expect in
the second half. Yeah, no, the last minute and forty
four seconds. It took thirty It took an hour, right,
and so I was on my way over. I couldn't
leave my place because I wanted to see the last
(00:27):
minute and forty four I had to leave my place.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
So that's what happened in the first half.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
We are broadcasting live for the tierrac dot com studios

over ten thousand recommended installers, tirerac dot com the way
tire buying should be. So Philadelphia has the football now
as we start the second half up twelve. But that's
what was so crucial for at least Washington to get
(00:52):
some points at the end of the first half, because
you knew Philadelphia was coming out. Now, we just had
a sack of Jalen Hurts, so it's a than nineteen.
And Jalen Hurts, when he's been pressured so far in
this game, has had difficulty throwing the football, and because
of that knee injury that he's been dealing with, it's
not been as effective running the football. So if Washington
(01:13):
can get pressure on him, puts the Philadelphia Eagles in
a tough spot when they have to throw the football.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
Yeah, and that's what I thought about this game going
into the game. I mean a lot of people have,
obviously and rightfully so, given Philadelphia the edge in this matchup,
and you know, a lot of talk, preliminary talks, has
been they're going to you know, win this game pretty handedly.
But I knew Washington was coming in with you know,
a little fire. I know, Joe Wi Joing your the
defensive coordinator for Washington. So I felt that the game
(01:40):
plan would be something that would keep them in it.
And so if Jaydon Daniels had enough time in this
game to sit back and actually get the ball down
the field, I knew would be a game that would
be a lot closer than some people thought.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
A lots of breakdown in this game so far, obviously
looking ahead to the Chiefs and Bills coming up from
Kansas City later on today, plus so much coaching news
in the NFL. But I do want to focus on
something that you said yesterday, and I know Steve Hartman
was making light of it and you're having fun with it,
but you said that you could see a scenario where
Saekwon Barkley was held under one hundred yards. Now, numbers wise,
(02:15):
it's probably not going to happen, but you take away
the sixty yard run. He's got twenty five yards on
eight carries in the first half. Why did you think
that that could be a possibility considering Barkley is dominated
so much as of lay.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Just because of game plan specifics. And then you hear
a lot of the chatter throughout the week. Like I said,
I know Joe Witt junior personally. He was my defensive
back coach at Louisville, so I've known him for a
long time when he would first starting out, and just
his mentality, I mean, it's always about stopping and run. Now,
personnel wise, Philadelphia is going to run a ball on everybody.
They're just that good.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Up front.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
But the commitment to stopping and run was something that
Washington knew they had to do, and so I could
see a scenario where, you know, usually when you stock
the run an eight man box, I could see them
even going nine. You know, that's how important stopping, say
Kuan is and make Dalen Hurts beat to you. I mean,
we've heard all year that it hasn't been the same
(03:10):
for him as far as the passing game goes. Let's see,
let's see if they worked that out. So that's why
I felt that way about it.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
I know last week when we had our conversations, and
I don't want to rehash the whole thing. Yeah, I
just I think that people are hitting fast forward so
much on Jayden Daniels, and I know it sounds like
I'm trying to take something away from him, and that's
just not the case. I just think that time is
going to tell us. But from what he's done so
far this year and what he's done in these playoffs
has been great. What I thought was was so interesting
(03:40):
in this game is Jane Daniels goes and leads this
team on an eighteen play drive to start the game,
and they only get three points out of it, but
they get something out of it, and it's the Philadelphia
Eagles defense being on the field for that amount of time,
for being on the field for half of the first quarter,
and even though Philadelphia then scored so quickly on the
(04:00):
Saquon Barkley sixty yard touchdown run, it was just the
point of Okay, Washington has an ability to control this game.
Now it got away from them a little bit. They
actually had to do a fake punt at one point,
which kept a drive alive down fourteen to six and
allowed them to keep within one score. But I've been
so impressed with just the Commander's ability to just remain
(04:23):
in touch, fake punt, to be able to get a
field goal at the end of the half, just to
grab some of the momentum back. Like Philadelphia has scored
a touchdown, it was twenty seven to twelve. If Washington
doesn't score, Philadelphia has got momentum and the ability to
come out in the second half, and it could have
been thirty four to twelve in boom. Now you have
no chance or you're just completely one dimensional the rest
(04:46):
of the way. I have been so impressed with Washington's
ability to just make sure this game doesn't get away
from them, because I think all the work that they
did in the first half with that eighteen play drive
carry can benefits in the second half if philadelph his
defense does get tired.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
And just think about the Commanders here. They just played
a game last week where the team turned the ball
five turned the ball over five times. You can't win
with turning the ball over. And so as good as
Washington's plan and the fact that you know they are
in touch, if they don't have those two turnover was
this is a different, completely different game as well. Yes,
and so I mean you take away that one touchdown
that's twenty to fifteen. Then the Commanders also in the
(05:23):
other drive when they had the turnover, they were moving
the ball, So this game could be completely different. There's
some butts. They missed the face mask here.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
There was a sack of Daniels from Jordan Davis, and
now Washington has got a third and twenty. Daniels has
been sacked twice in this game, has been under pressure.
Daniels stats and thirty one. He's their leading rusher right
now with thirty one yards, but the sixteen to twenty
five one hundred and forty six yards and a touchdown.
(05:57):
And this is this is the this is the the
rub of Jaden Daniels, and where I just again, I
just want to just pump the brake. I will appreciate
the greatness, but I'm hearing top five quarterback right now
in the National Football League. All of these things. And
as I said last week, remember all how we were
on CJ. Stroud last week and the Texans this week
fire their offensive coordinator because of how wrong things went
(06:19):
in year two. I don't know if that's going to
happen in Washington. My point is Washington's touchdown that they
got today Terry McLaurin. Great throw by Jaden Daniels on
the McLaurin touchdown, but scary Terry's doing a lot of
the work and running the defense at that point. Philadelphia
has done a decent job and not letting Jayden Daniels
beat them so far in this game, and that's been
(06:40):
another key why Philadelphia as a twelve point lead.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
And taking a step further.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
You said you're trying to temper the the expectations or
just temper the chatter surrounding Jayden Daniels. Right, We've seen
this with the quarterback that's on the other side. Sure,
Jalen Hurts. I mean after that Super Bowl game against
Patrick Mahomes, I thought he was going to be top five,
you know it like moving forward.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
But that's where everybody put him.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
He's not that guy, and we got to continue to
see the development of who he's gonna become later on
in his career, right because obviously things change. But the
same thing with Jaydon Daniels. This is one year and
people didn't have enough tape on them. Now they do,
so we'll see what happens.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
So Washington, after the sack of Daniels on a third
and twenty, dumped it off to Austin Eckler just to
get some yardage back, but they were forced to punt.
Philadelphia is gonna take over with the football up twenty
seven to fifteen, ten forty seven left to go in
the third quarter in Philadelphia's gonna have pretty good field
position at the forty one yard line. When Philadelphia came
out at the start of the second half, they did
(07:37):
not give the ball to Saquon Barkley. It was Jalen Hurts.
Then Jalen Hurts sacked and then they had a third
and long that they were unable to convert. Do you
just give it to Saquon Barkley boom boom boom right
out on.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
This possession if you're Philadelphia, if they were smart, yeah,
but I hope they don't for my sake, just.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
For your predictions. Carrity spent eight years in the National
Football League, was an All Pro.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Spent his time with the Jets and Cardinals. And even
when the Jets would do well or the Cardinals would
do something, I had never seen chier more than when
he wanted his Rams pick to make the NFC Championship
game last week. You were maybe twenty yards away from it.
You're that close. He was cheering hard, So don't be
surprised that he's cheering hard for his Saquon Barkley prediction.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
If you hear something knock over, it's me. That's all
you got to I'll tell you this.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
If Saquon Barkley is held to fifteen yards or less
here in the second half, then Washington is winning this
football game. And even down twelve, I'd be comfortable in
saying that. I just don't think it's necessarily necessarily going
to happen. But only nine carries and Philadelphia was able
to with a couple other drives and those turnovers. That's
(08:46):
the part that killed Washington the most. You mentioned how
they were able to turn Detroit over. The problem with
Washington turning the football over is this is their advantage
of keeping the football. At one point in middle of
the second quarter, they had ran thirty six plays to
Philadelphia is eighteen.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
I was just about to check that that was second
time in possession. Now it's even pretty even now, Yeah, just.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Because of the turnover. The second turnover was really the killer.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
But Philadelphia was also working clock after they got that
second time out. Excuse me, second turnover took a minute
off the clock and we're able to score. But here
we are now on first and ten for Philadelphia. I
said forty one yard line, it's more like the forty
two yard line, so already near midfield. One of the
things to at least look out for in this game
is Jake Elliott missed a long fifty plus yard field
(09:34):
goal earlier in this contest, one of eight I believe
for Jake Elliott with fifty yard field goals just has
not been not been great from distance. So if you
are Philadelphia, you are going to have to at least
get inside or around the thirty yard line to attempt
to kick, because right now, I don't think a long
field goal is an option.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
And Dan, as you can see, just some'm saying these
first couple of players out in the second half, right
Washington's committing to stop say Kwon Barkley, so they have
to pass the ball right now, and that's why the
carries are limited. So minus that sixty yard, I would
have been really spot on because I'm looking at the
box right now, it's eight. They were in a spread
for Mason. It was still eight guys.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Well, and I don't want to say that Carrie isn't
miss Cleo.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Okay, I don't.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Want to say I'm not trying to say that either,
But I'm actually gonna give you credit because, as you said,
you know Joe Whitt junior. You had heard comments that
he made during the week, so you're familiar with who
he is and what he does. And he's basically saying,
we're not gonna let Saquon Barkley beat uses, and now
they're gonna make Jalen hurts and hurts his hit Dallas
Goddard for a big pass play down inside the twenty
(10:42):
yard line. So Philadelphia's knocking on the door. It's just
you said you got to make Jalen Hurts beat you,
and right now he's done. So on the stride feeling
a good job.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
I mean again, if you're committing eight and you're really
sticking to that game plan, that's going to leave a
lot of guys one on one, and so you got
to win at what point?
Speaker 2 (10:57):
And by the way, he's inside the ten yard line.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
I was a little off on the yard So it's
a first and goal from about the nine and a
half y out line for Philadelphia. But if you are
Nick Sirianni in your Philadelphia, at what point do you say, Okay,
we have to give Saquon the football, even though that's
not what they're giving us.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Is there any point that you can do that?
Speaker 4 (11:16):
Yeah, when you get up right here and score this
touchdown here and make it thirty three fifteen, you're going
to run the ball right, and so you're going to
be in trouble. Now Washington's and catch up mode, and
now you're going to see Philadelphia's pass rushers get after
Jade and Daniels, and now they're going to try to
salt the game away, so he'll get his carries.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Now thirty three to fifteen as Jalen Hurts takes the
touchdown run in from nine yards out. And now with
eight and a half minutes to go, or just under
nine minutes to go in the third quarter, here's Philadelphia
in an eighteen point lead. Jake Elliott's going to come
on and try to excuse me. Yeah, Jake Elliott comes
(11:53):
on for the extra point to make it a nineteen point.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Edge for Philadelphia.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
I don't know what the Q card says on that one,
but the extra point is good. And so now a
nineteen point edge for the Eagles, who are a quarter
and a half away from making it the Super Bowl
fifty nine. Now, Jayden Daniels is going to have to
be a quarterback, yes that everybody has said.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
He is on the verge of being He's going to
have to do that over the next quarter and a
half without the threat really of a running game, because
why would Philadelphia care if you ran the football.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
The only threat of the running situation would be from him,
and so you know, being able to do that, but yeah,
the running game's dead.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
He is Kerry Roads. We are a love for the
tirerech dot com studios. I am Dan Byer, glad to
have you with us here on Fox Sports Radio at
his championship Sunday NFC Championship game. You can see it
right now on Fox Again Philadelphia up thirty four to
fifteen on Washington. Coming up later AFC Championship Game Bills
and Chiefs. That's at six thirty Eastern time. It's been
(12:53):
a crazy week in the National Football League, one where
head coaches were landing here, there, and everywhere. But why
one particular head coach didn't land in Las Vegas. We'll
tell you why Bill Belichick and Tom Brady did not
team up. That's next year on Fox Sports Radio.

Commanders in the third quarter of this NFC Championship game,
Washington is driving hit Carry up at Carrie twenty five Roads.
On x you can find me at dan Byer on Fox.
Also find me on Blue Sky at dan Byer. But
in this series of plays, as Washington now has gotten
(13:47):
it down to the Philadelphia twenty seven yard line facing
a second and six, Philadelphia had Jalen Carter on the
ground for a little while. Think he's gonna be okay,
but it caused a TV timeout as Philadelphia's most dominant
defensive lineman was banged up a little bit on this drive.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
Yeah, yeah, we don't want that, especially the way that
things are trending obviously.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
I mean, they have the inside track to go.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Into the super Bowl, and you want them to be
at their you know, at their peak performance, so you
don't want one of their main guys to go down.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
I said.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
One of the key things throughout this game is I
think that Philadelphia had opportunities where they could they could
run away with it, and Washington has been able to
just kind of at least just make sure that it's
not over, make sure that they are and within arm's length.
It may not be one score, maybe twelve points. But
(14:37):
that's why this drive is so crucial, because it's a
nineteen point game. Now you score here, you get a
two point conversion. Eleven point game changes everything. You got
a whole quarter and a quarter plus to play. Yep,
as we're under six minutes here in the third quarter.
But Washington four down territory on this drive, I I know,
(14:58):
a field goal with get you within sixteen, Yes, split,
you're down to the twelve yard line. They went forward
a bunch on fourth down earlier in the game, So
I think Washington getting a touchdown here is something that's imperative.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Yeah, they'll definitely go for it.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
I mean, dan Quinn's been uber aggressive all year, especially
down the stretch here, I think sometimes too much. But
in this situation, yeah, I mean down sixteen, if they
got a field goal here wouldn't put any real game
pressure on Philly. So a touchdown is I think paramount here.
But also we just saw Jaydon Daniels run and take
a big shot from the safety while he was trying
(15:33):
to go down. And I know in that next game
if that would have happened to fifteen in red and white,
that would have been a penalty.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
So we Jay and Daniels he got in for a score.
That's a big touchdown there.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
On a third and one runs a little option play,
does a keeper. He's dancing, but again, there's a lot
of football to play. Maybe it shows he's poised that
he's still willing to celebrate knowing that his team is
not out of it. But it's twenty four to twenty one.
I expect they go for two, considering they went for
two earlier today when it sure didn't seem necessary.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Yeah. See, that's and that's that's right, Dan.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
I mean, I see it so much in this game
now where it's all about the analytics and if analytics
and if it's say it's go, they're going. And it's
like you got to have a little football field too,
And I that's the part that really irks me with
today's game.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Here's the other thing about going for two. How many
plays four to two do you have in your playbook?
Speaker 2 (16:23):
You don't have.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Twenty five exactly, you know, and so so like at
some point and I'll tell you what, even if you
had twelve, Kerry, there's a reason there's a plays that
there's a play that is the twelfth best to use
because you never run it.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
So Washington hear it.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Eat of the conversion, I got it, and Jadeen Daniel
is able to keep the play alive.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Got a ball game still.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
I think olimides A Kias was the one with the
reception on the two point conversion. So yeah, here is
Washington says, we're sticking in. We're sticking around thirty four
to twenty three. Now still in the third quarter, five
oh one left to go in the third. All right,
they're taking a time out in Philadelphia. Allows us time
(17:03):
to talk about what happened this week, and one of
the biggest, I think surprising pieces of news was that
the Raiders were hiring Pete Carroll as their head coach.
I'm surprised as a Seahawks fan that Pete Carroll is
coaching in the NFL again. I know that there was
interest that he wanted to go to the Bears. Cowboys
were another team that was brought up. Ultimately he lands
(17:25):
with the Las Vegas Raiders, and I'm just I'm surprised
that Pete Carroll is back in the NFL. And I
guess it shouldn't be surprised that he's back this quickly,
because when you're going to be seventy four years old
in September, you only have so much time to still
coach in the NFL. But I was very surprised that
Pete Carroll is back in, and even more so than
(17:47):
he's back in with the Raiders.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
I got to say, I was a little surprised for sure.
I know a lot of people were talking about the
reunion with possibly you know Belichick being in that spot.
You know, Tom Brady's there, familiar, familiar guy, somebody you
worked with. But I think we all know that relationship
had its ups and downs. And when you're a player coach,
no matter how good of a player you are, there's
(18:10):
still a there's still a little disconnect there. Now, you
can be the closest of friends and that's fine, but
then you have you know, Brady being on the record
saying he really respected Pete Carroll.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
That goes a long way.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
And if he's the guy, which I've heard he is,
he's the guy that's making all the calls there. You're
gonna bring in somebody that you want to have, and
you also want to bring in somebody where you have
a limited roster and you want to have people that
can squeeze and juice out the most out of that
situation and also curate relationships in a positive way. I
could see why he would be the guy to come
(18:43):
in and do that for a short amount of time.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
See, I don't. I don't look at it that way.
I look at it if you are going to hire
someone in the late seventies, yep. For as much as
I love Pete Carroll, you're hiring Bill Belichick. And I
think that if you're Tom Brady, even if you know
you know, and you're comparing Bill Belichick or Pete Carroll,
I think Bill Belichick's the guy that you would want
(19:07):
to bring in. And this is the reason why I
think Bill Belichick is not the head coach of the
Las Vegas Raiders. And the reason is is I don't
think Bill Belichick ever wanted Tom Brady to be his boss.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
You think so that, I do not. Think.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
We had heard reports that the NFL was sour on Belichick,
no place wanted him, and so Belichick gets that feedback
says I'm going to take the North Carolina job, becomes
the head coach of the University of North Carolina late
November early December. My whole point on this is in
conversations that Tom Brady was having with Bill Belichick and
(19:45):
consulting with what Las Vegas should do if there was
any point Bill Belichick said, I'd be interested in coming
back to the Raiders. I'm sorry you're moving on from
Antonio Pierce. You're looking at other candidates with a different view,
knowing that you have Bill Belichick in your back pocket,
and then you settle for a coach in your early seventies.
(20:09):
If Bill Belichick wanted that job with the Raiders and
was willing to have Tom Brady be his boss, he
would have taken that job. I think Bill Belichick wanted
back in the National Football League. It's why he interviewed
with Atlanta last year. They had ties. Possibly. We've heard
Dallas how much that was significant. We've heard even Jacksonville
(20:30):
be brought up. I just don't think that there was
a scenario that Bill Belichick wanted to be back in
the NFL and have Tom Brady be his boss any
of the other teams that wanted to bring him in.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
I think fine.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
I think he would have turned his back on North
Carolina and went to the NFL if that was the case.
You can't tell me that. The Raiders and I know
they I know Bill Belichick was on the job for
a month and a half before they fired Antonio Pierce.
But if Bill Belichick told Tom Brady he wanted the
job that Antonio Pierce has gone, you don't keep Antonio
peace over Bill Belichick. And the fact that they settled
(21:02):
on the seventy three year old Super Bowl champion head
coach that isn't Bill Belichick tells me that's probably who
Tom Brady would have gone with. If Bill Belichick would
have been willing to go to Las Vegas, and considering
he wanted back in the NFL, why would he rather
go to North Carolina as opposed to Las Vegas. You
could give me the whole Steve Belichick heir to the
throne in Chapel Hills story.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
I just didn't think he wanted to take direction from
Tom Brady and have the tables turned like they had
for twenty years in Foxborough.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
That's a great take.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
I didn't even think of it that way obviously, But yes,
I could see that happening. But I also see a
scenario in my scenario. In my mind when I think
about Bill Belichick and even comparing him to Pete Carroll, right,
they both have won Super Bowls. I mean, obviously Bio
Belichick has won a lot of them, but the way
that he won and the way that he did things,
(21:54):
we just saw that last We saw that with New England,
and we saw him having full control. I saw him
making roster decisions. He wasn't good at all down the stretch.
And if you're going to get a team like the
Raiders who has a limited roster, which he had in
New England, we already saw that it wasn't good to
(22:14):
have the time to build that team and get it
back in the Belichick Patriot way would have taken time.
You got a guy in Pete Carroll that can come
in right now, like I said, forde relationships and have
guys overachieve in a situation. It would make a better
sense and a better play for me that he's the
guy instead of Belichick in my opinion.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Do you think Pete Carroll's going to have any say
in personnel because I don't think he cares. He had
a lot of it in Seattle. Yeah, that's that he
and John Schneider Pete Carroll. If Pete Carroll wanted a guy,
he had the ability to say I want to go
get that.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
I'm sure they'll listen to him. I don't know if
he'll have and so that's my point. So John Spytech
comes in from Tampa Bay ends up being the Raiders
general manager. Now, so like that.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
The other part of it is where I don't think
Pete Carroll is just there to coach. Maybe because now
he's seventy three years old and going to be seventy four,
he knew that was his only option that that would
be the case. But I still think you're going to
get some input from the head coach on what you
were going to do with personnel decisions. Hope sell yah,
And so that doesn't so Pete Carroll isn't absolved of that.
And I still think that Bill Belichick would have been
(23:18):
the better option. I still think Belichick wanted to coach
in the National Football League.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
I think, yeah, I think there's a when you talk
about the ego of a top player, top coach, any
top anything, and whatever their profession is, there's a healthy ego, right,
And so we know Belichick is really close to breaking
the wins record in the NFL. I mean I think
everybody knows that, and so you know he knows it.
But how many years would it taken to do that
(23:43):
with the Raiders and actually turned that team around. I
just don't see that being a good fit.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Imagine two six and ten seasons and now you've got
to go into the office. So the guy who by
all accounts ran this coaching search and had such an
input on who they were going to hire, and Tom
Brady ends up fighting you when you want to talk
about I am serious that the feeling of that. I
think that Bill Belichick wanted no part of that.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
It makes sense. It just there's.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Nothing, in no way, in no world was Bill Belichick
gonna let Tom Brady be in control of him. It
was just not going to happen. But the fact that
the Raiders settled on a head coach that's going to
be seventy four in September, in his early seventies and
it's not Bill Belichick is just amazing. And I think
you have to look at the real reason why he
(24:33):
was why it was Pete Carroll, and why he wasn't chosen,
Why Belichick wasn't chosen by Tom Brady. Whether Ben Johnson
was everybody stream, Yeah, there's no doubt about that. But
then that tells me is if you don't get Ben Johnson,
then Tom Brady had an idea of the type of
coach that he would want in. It's just someone who
(24:55):
almost matched the exact same accolades and history that his
predecessor had in New England, except his former coach had
New England. But his former coach in New England just
has five more Super Bowl rings.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Well, that's Pete Carroll Vegas.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
The Vegas Raiders are in the win one for the
Gipper mode, and Pete Carroll is going to be the
Gipper at ninety winning football game.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
That's where we're going to be. That's that's my best case.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
As soon as he coaches a game, he'll be the
oldest head coach in National Football League history to coach
in the NFL game. All Right, the Commander's closed within eleven.
Philadelphia got the football back. Let's see how they fared.
Let's go to the news desk. Martin Weis's giving us
the latest of what's going on in the NFC Championship game. Martin,
what's happening in Philly?
Speaker 6 (25:41):
Well, on that drive, a third down play, Frankie Louvu
shot through the line of scrimmage like he was the
one snapping the ball, not Cam Durgens, who was in
off the sideline. Cam Durgons didn't play all first half.
Landon Dickerson was playing center. Cam Jurgens now giving it
a go here. He's the starter normal, but he has
a back injury. So Louvu ran right past Cam Jurgens
(26:04):
and blew up Saquon in the backfield to force a
Eagles punt. So it is Commander's ball now in their
own territory again, like you said. Trailing by eleven is
thirty four to twenty three with a minute thirty four
left in the third quarter. Jalen Hurts with two hundred
and twenty one yards passing and a touchdown. Saquon Barkley
only twelve carries, but he's made the most of them
(26:25):
with ninety two. He had sixty on his first touch.
He's got two rushing touchdowns at first touch also went
for a touchdown. Jalen Hurts also adding two rushing touchdowns.
As Jayden Daniels completes a first down pass to zach
Ertz again approaching midfield, the Commanders are trailing.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
This game by eleven.
Speaker 6 (26:43):
Daniels with two oh three through the air and a
touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin. He's also ran in a
touchdown He's at forty eight on the ground, leading the
team in both categories. Brian Robinson Junior has thirty six
yards rushing six point thirty. The Chiefs and the Bills off.
The AFC Championship Game is Kansas City's seventh consecutive AFC
(27:04):
Championship game. The Chiefs currently trying to win their third
straight Super Bowl. The Chiefs in active players. Anybody who
know Justin Ross was activated, I mean elevated to the
active roster. Buddy's not going to be active for this game.
Wanya Morris also down Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles,
leaving the Buckeyes to take the same role at Penn State.
(27:27):
His contract reportedly averaged three point one million dollars per
over the next three years, which I would say sounds
like nine point three million dollars, but that's the way
the report was written.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Quick math. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (27:39):
Kenneth Gainwell ruled out for the Eagles for the rest
of his game. He suffered a concussion again, thirty four
to twenty three with one minute left in the third quarter.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
Commander's ball, Dan.
Speaker 6 (27:50):
And carry back to you guys, and congratulations Stan on
the Ohio State Look.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
At that Michigan guy saying this is the thing, as
I've always said, is for as much as I can't
stand Michigan, there's so many nice Michigan people that I
know that it just was very kind of hard.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
You know, it helped that you got to replace so
a two coordinators and you know.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Moving on Carrier Pones, Odan Buyer, it is a big
third down and ten. Thank you very much, Martin. I
did what I think and converted to Zach Ertz at midfield.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
I find Ertz such an interesting figure in this game
because of his history with Philadelphia, and if you remember,
Ertz was dealt to Arizona when the Cardinals ended up
making a playoff push a few years ago. Little did
we know that Philadelphia would then be able to turn
it around so quickly. So then Philadelphia ends up going
(28:44):
to the Super Bowl two years ago, and Ertz is
not a part of that team. Now here he is
on Washington playing this NFC Championship game. And now we
may have had a turnover. Jalen Carter had his hands
on a fumble and now that is signaling. He signaled
Philadelphia ball. But Washington came out. Tyler Biottish came out
(29:08):
of the pile with the football. We are going to
have to get a review on. This would be Washington's
third turnover. The judge from the sidelines, the official from
the line judge came over and said, Philadelphia Football. It
was a pass to Austin Eckler had it knocked out
(29:31):
of his wickets. Jalen Hurts picked up the football, then
Eckler knocked out of his hands. Then Reid Blankenship and
Biattish ended up fighting for the football, and the referee
said it's Eagles recovery, even though oh Man Beattish came
out of the pile with the football. May have been
(29:51):
a situation where because he was touched down and recovered
by Philadelphia, then the fight ensues, but it would be
the correct call on. Or is it Zach Bond who
ended up recovering the fumble. We haven't gotten a clear replay.
We've only gotten it from one sideline. But if this
play stands, which it looks like it's a turnover, so
it's gonna be reviewed anyway. Yeah, they'll review whether Eckler
had full possession, which it looked like he did carry
(30:13):
It looked like it was a catch even though he
fell to his knees and got up and Jalen Carter
knocked it out of his hands. And in fact, they're
not even looking at it. Philadelphia's offense is already on
the field ready to run a first down play from
their own forty nine yard line.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
And Dan, when they're players, going to realize every time
you catch a ball and you get up off the ground,
every time I see that, it's a turnover because somebody's
coming from the inside and they're going to take a
punch at it. And I mean, every time somebody catches
the ball and they're falling down and try to get
up and make something happen, it's usually a turnover. It's
(30:48):
crazy when I see it. It wasn't read blinken ship.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
It was Zach Bonn who recovered it, and they just
showed an opposite angle and it honestly looked like it
was fifty to fifty on whether who got it, but
they awarded the ball to Philadelphia, And you're right about that,
And you know why it happens. Do you know why
that happens so much? I believe because the runner is
using the arm that he has the football in to
(31:10):
get up. So there's the three points of pressure that
you have and you're missing one because you're using one
trying to get up on your feet, and that makes
it easy to punch out.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Dude.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
Every time I see it so much, and it's like, yes,
you can't fault the guy for trying to get up
and make a play, but you got to protect the ball.
And every time they do it, they end up running
back inside to never run get up and just run outside.
They always running back to the traffic. So crazy, he's
carry Roads.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Into the third quarter, Philadelphia gets the third turnover of
the game, up eleven with a football at midfield. So
now Philadelphia actually just took a pass from Jalen Hurts
to AJ Brown to get down to the thirty two
yard line, so it'll be first and ten in Washington
territory for Philadelphia in this NFC Championship game that you
(31:58):
can see on Fox. Talked about the three points of
pressure when carrying a football. There are a million points
of pressure where you're the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Howell.
Brian Schottenheimer respond, He's carry Roads. I'm Dan Byer. We'll
tell you next year on Fox Sports.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Right now. Dent Dent done.
Speaker 5 (32:17):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio once again. Here's
Dan Byer and Carry Rhodes.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
Eagles lead the Commanders thirty four to twenty three the
NFC Championship Game, twelve thirty five left to go in
Philadelphia knocking on the door. In fact, they've been knocking
on the door for the entire bit that we were
away because it has been push push bonanza as Washington
continues to jump off sides on defense and in a
(32:48):
second in goal situation, now I should point out Saquon
Barkley took a handoff, got it down to about the
two yard line. It was first and goal at the
two yard line, and Philadelphia started to do their brotherly
sh of push, push, whatever you want to call it
from the two yard line, which was a significant distance.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
Yeah, But Washington continues.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
To try to time this and they did stop it
earlier in the game, but Washing on a conversion attempt.
But Washington continues to jump off sides, and now the
ball has moved from the two yard line to about
the half yard line and Jalen Hurts is into the
end zone. And I understand Washington trying to get the
(33:32):
edge that they had, but when the balls.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
At the two yard line.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
The two yard line and the one yard line are
a mile apart in my mind, as you're trying to
get a goal line stop, and so Washington ends up
just getting off sides, off sides, off sides. Philadelphia scores.
It's now forty one to twenty three. It's now back
to a three possession game with its twelve twenty four
left to go. I don't I don't understand Washington's thinking
(34:00):
in that sort of scenario unless you're thinking, the only
way we can stop this play is if we time
it up correctly.
Speaker 4 (34:06):
Yeah, I mean that that's the thinking, and nobody has
stopped it yet, So let's try something. Let's try to
jump over the top to stop it and get it
before it gets going. I'm okay with them taking a
couple of chances to do that. I mean, obviously it
gets to be a point. If it gets down to
the half go yah line, they're going to score regardless.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
They stopped them once already today on the conversion attempt
to when there was a penalty on marsha On Lattimore, which,
by the way, the personal fall also should have gone
on a J. Brown, but they did not call it
off setting. They just give it to Marshawn Lattimore. The
commander stopped them, and that's why I thought that it
was legitimate that at the ball is at the two
yard line, that if Philadelphia is just going to try
to run four brotherly shoves from the two, it's not
(34:45):
a guarantee that you get in on that time. I
think that I don't think that the Commanders played that correctly.
I think that in that sort of scenario where it's
a thirty four to twenty three ball game, you hold
them to a field goal, it's thirty seven to twenty three,
Y're still within two scores. Twelve minutes. You go A
lot can happen in that point. Now you make it
(35:07):
a three score game. I wouldn't have could. I would
have tried to think of a better plan. I don't
know if there was one, but I would have tried
to think of a better plan.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Carrier Roase, Yeah, it hasn't been a better plan for
that one, Dan, you're I mean yes, I mean you
have to exhaust all your options to try to figure
it out. Obviously, they probably they've done that throughout the week,
and it look good in practice because you'll time it
up in practice where it works and the game's a
little different.
Speaker 3 (35:29):
Look. The other point is is there was a snap
on one of the plays that Philadelphia actually got off
yeah Jalen hurts, Yeah, didn't get the ball cleanly and
almost fumbled. That could have happened in that scenario instead
of giving them a half yard and a half yard
after each of these penalties. I just don't I don't
think that was a smart play about Washington. I told
you I thought Philadelphia would run the Brotherly shoves just
(35:50):
to take you know, one hundred twenty seconds off the clock,
like you could at that point take two minutes off
if you can, by just running that play and letting
the clock tick tick tick.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Yeap.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
But in this scenario, I think Washington played it wrong.
And now it's an eighteen point ball game with only
twelve minutes left.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
I mean in hindsight, it is play wrong for sure,
And like you said, they stopped it once on that
on that on that drive. So I mean the possibility
of it happening not looking good. And I'm sure of
Philly in that situation. You know, obviously we would say
kick the field goal to make it a two score game.
It's already a two score game. They would have ran
it four time and tried to score probably, and so
(36:31):
you know, they haven't been stopped on that play if they.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
Run it, so you know, take a chance.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
I still would have wanted to try to keep it
a two point two score game as much as I could. Sure, Sure,
Dallas Cowboys. I almost said settling, And that's just disrespect
almost settling I did.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
I did.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
That's disrespectful because I actually like Brian Schottenheimer. You had
him as a coach during your playing days with the
fifty one year old offensive coordinator didn't call the place
for the Cowboys last year. He's not going to run
the whole operation for Dallas. What do you think about
Brian Schottenheimer getting the gig in Dallas?
Speaker 4 (37:09):
Well, I call him shoddy, and I love Shody, great dude,
great coordinator. I just don't see him being the head
coach of the Dallas Cowboys. And for me, even the
idea of him being a head coach anywhere would be
tough for me to see, just me knowing him person's personality. Yeah,
and I mean he's a great guy, Like you know,
(37:31):
the guys are gonna like him, But can he devise
a blueprint for a full team and be the orchestrator
of that. I just don't see it. He's as fun
and cool as he is. He doesn't have a demanding personality,
So to demand certain things from fifty three sixty one
(37:53):
guys to be on the same page, it's going to
be tough for me to see and to be in
a place where he does. He has zero control of anything.
It just doesn't sit well with me.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
That's really interesting, And I love your perspective because it
is firsthand perspective, because as I look at the scenario
or I look at this situation, I'm almost wondering, and
I know why. I know why we're not applauding it
and we're not talking about it as a great story.
It's because it's the Dallas Cowboys who love to criticize
Jerry Jones and the decisions that he made and the
(38:24):
options and how this all played out. It's very easy
to just pile on the Cowboys in this scenario. For
a guy who's fifty one years old, who had a
last name that probably could have gotten him a lot
of jobs in the National Football League, for this to
be his first opportunity as a head coach. I actually
think it's kind of neat. And I remember during his
time in Seattle when he was there with Russell Wilson,
(38:47):
and the reason that his tenure seemingly ended is because
he and Pete Carroll weren't necessarily on the same page
with how the offense needed to run. And I don't
think that Pete Carroll wanted the type of offense where
Russell Wilson was really cooking. And there was a game
during his tenuere in Buffalo, well, Russell Wilson was having
a great start to the season, turned the ball over
(39:08):
like four times in the game, and that was something
that drives Pete Carroll absolutely nuts and it ended up
changing the relationship. Schottenheimer didn't return, but they had some
pretty good offenses with Russell Wilson. With Brian Schottenheimer, there
different story being a head coach, and I'm surprised they
didn't waited out longer with Kellen Moore, considering for a
(39:29):
while back we thought maybe Kellen Moore was going to
be the heir apparent and now it could have worked
out that way. Yeah, for them to go with Brian Schottenheimer.
That's the part that scratches my head is Kellen Moore
is still playing. So if you waited this long, why
not wait even longer?
Speaker 4 (39:41):
And the fact that Schottenheimer was already in house with
that team that just Matt even though he wasn't calling
the plays, they massively regressed in the time that they
were there. And you know, for him to be the
guy you two in that building when the guys aren't
having success with that staff, that's a hey scratchup for me.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
Washington gets the ball now, facing a fourth and six
at the thirty four yard line, and they're gonna go
for it down eighteen, but in their own territory, at
their own thirty four yard line. It's do or die
for Washington. He's carry rhads. I'm Dan Beyer. We'll be
back with how Washington converted in the rest of the
fourth quarter of this NFC Championship game next year on
(40:26):
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio, Philadelphia.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
Eagles are four and a half yards away from really
putting the finishing touches on this NFC Championship game, and
they just have done so. Saquon Barkley four yard touchdown run.
It's Philadelphia's sixth rushing touchdown of this game. They already
had the record for the history of the NFC Championship
with five. They now have six. Saquon Barkley into the
(40:55):
end zone. Extra point coming up. Commander's lead. Excuse me,
Eagles lead the Commanders forty seven to twenty three, seven
fifty eight.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
Left in the NFC Championship game.
Speaker 4 (41:06):
And that that right there is why that says push
is so annoying. Thank you just had a ball of
the Saquon Barkley. It's and we're not having this conversation.
I mean, that's why they went and got the franchised back.
Give him the ball and stop give men. Jalen Hurts
them most short touchdowns. I mean, say Kwan would have
had ninety two touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
Is yet Sacomon's got three today. Jalen Hurts has three today.
Hurts also a touchdown pass to aj Brown. Extra point
is good. It's forty eight twenty three Philadelphia on top
of Washington. We are broadcasting live from the tierrack dot
com studios. Tierreq dot Com will help you get there.
An unmatched selection, fast free shipping. Free road has a
protection you know, over ten thousand recommended installers tireq dot com.
(41:47):
The way tire buying should be now in the National
Football he carry, you know this. If a team continues
to commit this same penalty over and over trying to
gain an advantage, they can be called for a personal foul.
It would be a fifteen yard penalty and things would change.
What happens when you're in a goal to goal situation
(42:08):
and the defense continues to get off sidees penalties like
the Washington Commanders did with the Philadelphia Eagles, because there
you have half the distance to the goal line, and
when you're six inches away, three inches isn't much of
a penalty. Well, we have some clarification. This is actually
(42:28):
how it sounded. I believe this is Sean Hockyley, the
official who is the referee for this NFC Championship game,
making the announcement on what happened when Washington was continually
jumping off sides as the Eagles were trying to do
the brotherly shove.
Speaker 4 (42:46):
Washington has been advised that at some point the referee
can award a score if this type of behavior happens again.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
For now, it's a reclaim second down. So this type
of behavior. Yes, that's it.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
That is a next time you do it, Yeah, I
am taking away a dinosaur, which I have said within
the last twenty four hours, and I've said it about
five times in the last week.
Speaker 2 (43:10):
I don't believe. I don't believe Brody did that. I
don't believe it. Dan.
Speaker 3 (43:13):
If you do it again, I am taking away the
t rex. He was absolutely right though that the official
has every right to do so. Jeff Darlington of the
ESPN is the one that did the work on this.
All given props taking the section out of the rule book.
Article it's Rule twelve, Section three, Article four. Actually I
think it's article two. Article two says fouls to prevent score.
(43:38):
The defense shall not commit successive or repeated fouls to
prevent the score. The penalty for successive or repeated fouls
to prevent the score if the violation is repeated after
a warning, the score involved is awarded to the offensive team.
Speaker 2 (43:53):
Is that a judgment rule?
Speaker 4 (43:55):
That's what I want to know, right, Like, say they
just got drawn off side two times. I mean, obviously
we could tell that was intentional, But what if it's
like a judgment thing?
Speaker 2 (44:04):
Is it a judgment?
Speaker 4 (44:05):
All?
Speaker 2 (44:05):
Dad? I tell you what, when you know, you know,
like you know it's enough, you're speaking like a dad,
speaking like a dad, like.
Speaker 3 (44:13):
That's too much, that's too much. The game of the
price is right, when you're trying to guess the car,
you know what is too much? I would say, after
the third time, it's pretty ridiculous. Yeah, then you're splitting hair.
So you can't even move the football closer because at
some point that's like, what is the theory? Like do
(44:34):
we ever really really travel? Because everything is halfed and
because of infinity you can't.
Speaker 2 (44:40):
Necessarily do that. That's right, that's the theory on it.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
So when you're getting closer and closer to the goal line,
at some point, the referee just could have said touchdown, Philadelphia.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 3 (44:50):
In a scenario where you're trying to save time and
you want to let a team score, that may be
the best way to do so in just saying we're
gonna jump off sides, continue to jump off side, just
give them the score, and then we'll get the football back.
But at no point there should Washington have wanted to
go down three scores. Now it's a twenty five point game,
(45:12):
it's a four score game and it's pretty much out
of hand, right, But at least at that point, I
just I didn't understand Washington trying to continuously do it unless,
as you said, Carrie, it was the only way that
they felt that they could stop it.
Speaker 2 (45:26):
Yeah. I don't.
Speaker 4 (45:26):
Like again, I don't We're not there, so we don't
know what Dan dan quinn said to them. But yeah,
I mean they definitely worked on that in practice, and
it's something that they've talked about obviously and devised for
this game plan. So yeah, take two shots at it
doesn't work, you know, you can't do it again, and
just you move on. But yeah, that's that's one that
(45:48):
I didn't know. I actually did not know that rule.
So that's that's good.
Speaker 2 (45:51):
I learned. I learned in class to day with it.
Speaker 3 (45:52):
It was like Kyle Yustchek learning last year that the
Chiefs also get a possession of the Super Bowl. He
didn't know that until the Niners took the football and
then Kansas City and I in Kyle Ustchech's defense, it
never dawned on me either at the time that the
forty nine ers should have went on defense first in
that scenario, because it's the same as it was in
(46:15):
the college game, where you kind of go, except it's
different in the fact of where you're starting and how
it is all played out. If you were to say
both teams started the twenty five yard line and this
was the NFL, I think the forty nine ers when
they won the toss, would have said, yeah, I we'd
like to go on defense. But when you shape it
into the way of okay, can you get a stop,
then all we need is a field goal? You look
(46:35):
at it a different way.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
Different, But.
Speaker 3 (46:40):
Yeah, the point being is I think the forty nine
ers just ended up messing messing up because they felt
maybe it was the old way of how they always
used to do things, but that the new format is
now more like college. That's the point that I'm trying
to make. He has carrier roads. I'm dan Byer. Rapid
Radios are the official communication device of Fox Sports Radio
Internet Emergency. You want Rapid Radios instant bush to talk
(47:02):
walkie talkies for clear national LTE coverage and one touch communication,
peace of mind for connecting with family and an emergency.
Go to rapid radios dot com now for up to
sixty percent off in free shipping and Niners got the ball,
they went and kicked the field goal and then allowed
the Chiefs to go down and score and get the
game winning touchdown. Commanders have it second and five at midfield.
I will say this, Jayden daniels numbers are going to
(47:22):
look pretty good, yea, considering what Philadelphia is going to
allow them to take nothing away from him, although I
know it sounds like I've tried to take things away
from the Jaydon Daniels. Unfortunately, is Cinderella rookie season coming
to an end, likely in the next six and a
half minutes. We just talked a lot about the officials
and what happened at the goal line. We've been talking
(47:44):
a lot about the officials and the Kansas City Chiefs
if you were even up at arms last week against
the Houston Texans. There's now a report out that the
NFL may look for replay assists to assist in calls
like that that we saw on the Will Anderson personal foul,
or when Patrick Mahomes was slow and was a fifteen
yard personal follow was called on Houston as he slid
(48:06):
down and there didn't appear to be contact or that
much of it to Patrick Mahomes, are you in favor
of replay assist jumping in and having more of a
role in this.
Speaker 2 (48:17):
Yeah, if they get it right.
Speaker 4 (48:19):
Yeah, I mean I'm all about getting it right, playing
and being you know, being in a lot of these
games and knowing how important getting the calls right really is. Yes,
I would be in favor of it, But the game
is already pretty long. If it takes a lot of
time to get it right, then that's also something we
(48:40):
got to be careful of as well. But yeah, when
it comes to the Chiefs and them getting calls, I
think it's I liken this yesterday to like, we're humans, right,
the human nature, the referees, umpires, all of them are humans.
And if they take a liking to somebody your team
or a situation and have the human element of giving
(49:04):
that person the benefit of the doubt, I could see
that happening. But when it gets to a point of
you know, it looks like it feels like it's blatantly
helping one team more than the other, that's when it
becomes a problem. And for me, when you watch Patrick
Mahomes play, he gets the benefit of the doubt more
(49:24):
than anybody I've seen and I've been around and played
Tom Brady twice a year and he got calls, sure,
But Patrick Mahomes is a lot, especially when you see
it happen in that game and then we watched Detroit
later play and Jared Goff almost get his head taken
off and there's no penalty. It's like it has to
be a point where it's fair at least. And that's
(49:45):
where I think a lot of people have their feelings
about the Chiefs and officiating.
Speaker 3 (49:50):
In one of the penalties that we now have in
the NFL is because Tom Brady had Steed blown out
by Bernard Pollard. I don't row hit and now you
aren't allowed to hit quarterbacks low anymore. This is this
is how I think, this is what's happening with the
Chiefs and why this is different with Patrick Mahomes. And
by the way, I don't think that replay assist is
(50:10):
going to do anything. And the reason and I'll just
I'll make that point quickly. Replay assist isn't the problem.
It's not the rough's missing the call. It's that the
rules are so poor. The rules and how we define
what is a personal foul are so poor. And I
go back to the NBA of the nineteen eighties and
(50:30):
of the nineteen nineties, Michael Jordan traveling, Magic Johnson, Larry
Bird getting calls in the eighties, Lebron James getting calls.
That is stuff that we are all accustomed to and
are actually okay with because to a certain extent, it's like, oh,
that's a superstar call. They're not going to call that
(50:52):
against a superstar. And I think we can all agree
that Patrick Mahomes is a superstar. But what we're getting
here is we're getting player safety rules coming into play.
And what happens is now it looks like you're trying
to protect the superstar and not allowing the superstar. Like
if you don't call it travel it's like, well then
we got an awesome dunk by Lebron, Like you know,
you know what I mean, Like, yeah, it's traveling. But
(51:14):
this is what Maybe there's a way to rationalize it
in a certain way, but this is more of like, oh,
the NFL is trying to make sure that nothing happens
to their prized pupil. And that's where it looks so different.
And I don't that's why where the replay assists. If
the rule says that you were hitting the helmet in
(51:36):
that scenario, like on the Will Anderson sec. There was contact,
but by no means it was. It was inadvertent contact.
But the way that the rule is written is the
way that I don't think replay assist would be able
to change anything. What I think we just have to
do is we honestly just have to toughen up in
how we look at how we deal with our quarterbacks
(51:56):
and then adjust accordingly to that one hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (51:59):
That part is one hundred percent correct, and it's and
it's very simple. If the quarterback now outside all the stuff,
it's fine, like hands high, hands to the helmet, cool,
that's the that's in the rule book. If he's in
the pocket, that should be enforced one hundred percent. It's
when these quarterbacks are getting outside of the pocket and
(52:20):
they're not quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (52:21):
Anymore, they're football players.
Speaker 4 (52:24):
You cannot tell a defensive guy to account for this
guy sliding, running you over, faking like he's going to
run out of bounds, and going back in bounds, like
all those layers to it. That's just too much for
a defender to do anything about. And you're gonna hurt
yourself by not fully committing to go make a play
(52:45):
because you're in limbo. The easy solution is if he's
outside of the pocket, he's fair game, and that will
get quarterbacks and put them in a situation to know
I have to protect myself, which all the football players
have to do. You can't make that quarterback feel like
he's different than everybody else on the field in that place.
Speaker 3 (53:08):
Just a quick given update, Jayden Daniels has just thrown
an interception into the end zone picked off by Quinnyon Mitchell,
and the Eagles are five minutes away from advancing the
Super Bowl fifty nine. In fact, sa Kwon Barkley is
not even in the game anymore. Philadelphia on their way
to the Super Bowl with that twenty five point lead
(53:28):
over Washington. If you're sliding like Patrick Mahomes is in
that scenario, you could still call a penalty if they
hit you high. Like if they come in you slide
and you get hit in the head, I have no
problem because you would do the same on a defenseless
receiver or in that scenario. There was a run that
(53:49):
I saw last year with Patrick Mahomes against the forty
nine ers where I think that the forty nine ers
were just way out of in terms of maybe it
was this year, last year, this year when Mahomes is
running and he runs to the sidelines, and I think
it was last yearuse I think it was Drake Greenlaw
that actually over pursued and Mahomes just cut it up
(54:13):
field and then ran down the sidelines. Do we have
another Eagles touchdown? Is that it would have been? Who
was who was that.
Speaker 7 (54:29):
Will Shipley, rookie out of Clemson.
Speaker 3 (54:31):
Oh there you go, good job, Ian, Thanks for that
head up, Will Shipley. I was looking for Kenneth Gainwell
or but no, it's it's Will Shipley.
Speaker 2 (54:39):
Almost took it to the house.
Speaker 4 (54:40):
Will Simpley quads hamstrings all that was tight. He mustn't
just got he did just get in because cheerleading over there.
Speaker 3 (54:47):
But that that is that's a spot you can score.
You don't need to take more time off.
Speaker 2 (54:51):
You can go ahead.
Speaker 3 (54:52):
You can go ahead and score in that scenario. But
the point being is there was a play that people
have pointed to where it looked like Mahomes was running
out of bounds, and I think Mahomes slowed up. But
because it's so much in the defender's heads. They have
no idea what to do with Patrick Mahomes on the sideline.
I said the same thing to you last week as
I'll say right now. Somebody's just got to smack him.
I say the same thing. Yeah, yeah, you did too, Yeah, yeah, yep.
(55:13):
And so until that happens, then maybe we'll get some change.
But I don't think adding replay assists changes anything unless
you actually change what is going on with these rules
in the game.
Speaker 4 (55:23):
And the other thing that irks me about Patrick Mahomes
with this situation in particular him, is he knows he's
getting preferential treatment, right, so him running towards the sideline,
he's taking his time, he's tiptoeing because he knows people
are scared. Then he's turning back up feel and it's
and now it's becoming like manipulation of the system. And
(55:45):
anybody that manipulates anything or does something to better themselves
that kind of.
Speaker 2 (55:53):
Tricks the rules or bends the rules, I don't like
that about. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (55:56):
It's like you're you're winning, you're gonna run out the clock,
shot clocks one down, yeah, and you just launches a
three because the guy is eased off you're like, Okay, well,
obviously wouldn't have stopped paying defense if I thought this
would have been reciprocated. But different when you're in the
heat of the moment and not in a blowout sort
of game.
Speaker 7 (56:14):
Do you guys remember literally a few weeks ago when
as He's al Shayir was villainized because he lit up
Trevor Lawrence, And you know, maybe rightfully so. But the
point is the defender, if you go in and lay
a hit like that, you're a villain. Like everyone on
social media hates you.
Speaker 2 (56:30):
I don't think that that is the hit that needs
to happen to Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (56:35):
Well, the point is he was sliding, yeah, and hit him,
and I don't and I don't think that you should.
I think that if you already see the slide, yeah,
I think it's the tiptoe to the sideline that somebody
just needs to put his shoulder into the quarterback that
is going to try to fake them out and go
for an extra.
Speaker 4 (56:50):
Yeah, Trevor was giving himself up Patrick Mahomes even with
the slides. He's he's literally waiting to the last second
because he know if you touch him, he's going to
get a penalty and it drives me insane.
Speaker 3 (57:03):
And that's the part of where maybe replay assist helps there.
But I just don't think in the letter of the law,
when you see the inadvertent contact like you did with
the will Anderson play, I don't know how replay can
oversee that, like overturn that sort of thing, because you
would see contact there. I think that the rule has
to change, so like that's something that I'd like to
(57:25):
go wait on top of the quarterback penalty on a
sack I think is fair. The low hit I mean,
I actually think the low hit penalty was there to
benefit guys who don't move in the that can't move
and just sit in the pocket.
Speaker 2 (57:39):
I almost think.
Speaker 3 (57:40):
That that rule is becoming extinct because everybody's mobile.
Speaker 2 (57:44):
You have to move at least somewhat.
Speaker 3 (57:46):
You're not just Peyton Manning statue back there, Tom Brady
statue back there anymore. Like you have to move. So
the low hit I wouldn't mind that that no longer
being because I don't think guys are diving for people's
knees anymore. I don't think we see play a lot
and when a guy gets put on the ground and
could go and wrap up a quarterback and bring him down.
I don't think that's necessarily the worst thing in the world.
Speaker 4 (58:09):
Yeah, I was thinking, like right now, who is the station?
Never quarterback right now? Can you think of one right now?
Like off the top of your head. Joe Burrow moves
a little, he can move.
Speaker 2 (58:20):
Yeah. CJ.
Speaker 3 (58:20):
Stroud's moved in his career. He did in his first
year at Ohio State. Would not run for anything. Would
and then it evolved a little the second year. But
he runs more now in the NFL than he ever
did in college.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
His line sucks. He's carry Roads.
Speaker 3 (58:35):
I'm Dan Bayer. Will Shipley's into the end zone. And
now Philadelphia is on the kick an extra point to
make it. It's fifty four to twenty three right now
with three zho three left to go in the NFC
Championship Game. It is the extra point is good, fifty
five twenty three. Philadelphia on their way, so their second
Super Bowl in three years.
Speaker 2 (58:55):
He is carry Rhodes. I'm Dan Bayer.
Speaker 3 (58:57):
Let's see if Kerry can put on an Eagle's line
performance and easy as one, two, three four. That's next
year on Fox Sports Radio, and the Philadelphia Eagles are
taking championship knees is they are running out the clock
in the NFC Championship game against the Washington Commanders. He
(59:19):
is carry roads. I'm Dan Byer, live forth TIREC dot
Com Studios.
Speaker 2 (59:22):
You know what they should have, dead, Dan.
Speaker 4 (59:23):
They should have gave like Saquon like a pitch and
he could have ran backwards and like ran the clock
out and waste the yards and waste time.
Speaker 2 (59:29):
That would have been great.
Speaker 3 (59:30):
Yeah, and then maybe take like a forty yard loss
and even win your prediction with Steve Hartman. The time
is ticking. Commanders aren't even bothering calling timeouts. There's no
need to when you're down thirty two points. But the
Philadelphia Eagles fifty five to twenty three over Washington. Saquon
finished with one hundred and eighteen yards on the ground,
(59:51):
and now the Eagles will go to their fifth Super
Bowl and franchise history, second in the span of three years.
As that graphic just popped up on Fox Philadelphia Eagles
heading to Super Bowl fifty nine.
Speaker 4 (01:00:07):
What do you think that says about Nick Sirianni. Now,
I think he's done them. I think he's done an
excellent job of managing this team. They got a lot
of talent, a lot of personalities which we know, and
the fact that they're back in the super Bowl again
for the second time in three years under under Siriannis
(01:00:28):
at four two two or three or two.
Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
Or four theod for the super Bowl, Yeah, yeah, two
or three.
Speaker 4 (01:00:34):
That's we gotta we gotta give him credit because I'm
one of the guys that actually I don't like him.
I didn't like him prior to this year with the
way that he presents himself, and that's my own personal
feeling about it. But the results super Bowl two times
three years is pretty pretty darn good.
Speaker 3 (01:00:54):
They lost to in his first year, they went nine
and eight, lost to Tampa, so it's for his career.
This is his fourth year, so to be the second
super Bowl in four years, but two out of the
last three seasons they lost to Tampa and wild card
games in the years that they didn't go to the
super Bowl, So that's what you've got. You could have
a scenario where Sirianni loses to Tampa in a wild
(01:01:15):
card game, loses to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl
next season, loses to the Tampa in the wild card game,
lose to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. It could
be the same thing, but that's Nick Sirianni's I just
think he is in a golden spot. They made the
correct hires. So Vic Fangio. Yes, last year was with
Miami and that didn't work out. But Vic Fangio came
(01:01:37):
on with Philadelphia during their playoff run. I can't remember
was the other whole season. But the point is is
he was a consultant for the Eagles when they went
to the Super Bowl two years ago. You bring him
in now to run your defense, and I think we've
seen the success that they've had. Brian Johnson did not
work out last year as their offensive coordinator taking over
(01:01:59):
for s and Stike in No, you're bringing Collen Moore
that has worked out. But honestly, you bring in Sakuon
Barkley and you commit to it, and so I don't
you're giving more credit to Nick Sirianni than I would. Yeah,
I just think that he is in a prime spot
and gets to reaple out of the benefits. And I'm
not sure exactly what he does except stop popping off
(01:02:25):
like he has done in previous season.
Speaker 2 (01:02:27):
That's number one.
Speaker 4 (01:02:28):
He's shut his mouth and actually focused on his team.
But I think the best thing that he's done, and
I think the best thing that any head coach really
does is being able to manage your guys. And so
it feels like and I even as far as last year,
I thought the pulse of that team wasn't him and
(01:02:52):
he didn't have any real control over that team relationship wise,
it feels like he's gotten that back. I know we
had one blow up in the year in the beginning,
I think in the beginning of the year where it
was something on the sidelines that happened. But he has
the post of this team and he's delegated stuff as
he should, and that's where I give him credit for.
Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
He is carry roads. I'm Dan Byer.
Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
Let's go over to the news desk. Martin Weiss is
here to give us the latest, and then Martin will
stick around and be a lifeline for Carrie and easy
as one, two, three, four. What's happening Martin?
Speaker 6 (01:03:26):
Oh yeah, you're absolutely right, Dan, is the second Super Bowl.
I don't know about the lifeline part. I'll help y'all.
Carrey commander needed help today. Eagles fifty five commanders twenty
three three turnovers.
Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
Really the story of the game.
Speaker 6 (01:03:42):
The Washington offensive sided things three turnovers led to twenty
one Philadelphia points. Jalen Hurts with three rushing touchdowns. Chakwon
Barkley with three rushing touchdowns. Takuon Barkley, by the way,
having a great this postseason has made a ton of money.
Speaker 2 (01:03:59):
This is his bonus.
Speaker 6 (01:04:00):
He made two hundred and fifty thousand for making the
Pro Bowl, two hundred and fifty thousand for making the
NFC Championship Game, five hundred thousand for being the rushing
yards leader, and five hundred more thousand for being an
ap All Pro. And if they win the Super Bowl
then'll get another two hundred and fifty thousands. So two
(01:04:21):
million dollars in the span of what three weeks for
sakeue not bad.
Speaker 2 (01:04:25):
Good work if you can get it.
Speaker 6 (01:04:27):
Today he had fifteen carries, one hundred and eighteen yards touched.
His first touch to the game was a sixty yard
touchdown run. Jalen Hurts with two hundred and forty six
through the year and a touchdown pass.
Speaker 2 (01:04:37):
He added three on the ground. Already said that my
bad out of.
Speaker 6 (01:04:40):
Touch puss ten carries, sixteen yards, three touchdowns. Jaydon Daniels
had through his first postseason interception and a desperation play
to quinnyon Mitchell. He was trying to target Terry McLaurin therey.
At two hundred and fifty five yards passing and a touchdown.
He led the team in rushing as well, forty eight
yards on the ground, six carries, touchdown.
Speaker 2 (01:05:01):
Jack Ertz, you talked about this Philadelphia.
Speaker 6 (01:05:04):
Former Philadelphia legend jack Ertz was with the Cardinals, actually
ended last year on the Lions practice squad. Was the
leading receiver for Washington today eleven receptions, one hundred and
forty yards along of twenty one. We are minutes away
from kickoff of the AFC Championship Game between the Kansas
City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills. Kansas City. It's the
(01:05:25):
seventh consecutive AFC Championship game the Chiefs currently trying to
win the franchisees third straight Super Bowl that they're able
to advance. It will, in fact be a Super Bowl
rematch of two years ago Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas
City Chiefs at Buffalo Goos. It'll be their first Super
Bowl appearance in the Josh Allen era.
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
Dan Kerry back to.
Speaker 3 (01:05:46):
You guys, I did not want a Super Bowl rematch
from those are boring, especially when they're recent and we
just had it two years ago. I thought even last
year's Chiefs forty nine ers was not the It turned
out to be a great game, but the hype of
the game when you see it recently from years prior
just isn't the same. I don't know anybody outside of
(01:06:06):
Missouri and Kansas that is rooting for the Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (01:06:10):
Yes, I don't think anybody wants to see the Chiefs
in the Super Bowl, which is funny because I mean,
greatness and greatness is something we should respect and greatness
is something that we should look towards. But I think
(01:06:31):
a lot of people are on the fence about if
this team is great, and I think that's the I
think that's the caveat here because if they were winning
and blowing people out by forty and they're like, man,
this team is unstoppable and they're on the chance to
have a three p like that'll be a big story.
But this team doesn't give that vibe off well. And
(01:06:51):
I would also say this to the Kansas City Chiefs.
It's nothing personal. We just get sick of fins we
do no matter what. And unfortunately, I think a lot
of people are sick of the Kansas City Chiefs. But
the Chiefs want to continue making people sick. With a
win today.
Speaker 2 (01:07:05):
See how Carry Rhoads fares right now?
Speaker 3 (01:07:07):
Easy as one, two, three, four, getting underway where I
give Carrie four topics. He doesn't have to give me
all the correct answers, just some. He has three lifelines,
Mary mack Ian, Roddy and Martin Weiss, all at his disposal.
If he doesn't know the answer, you can workshop the
question out, figure out the answers. The goal is to
get a perfect score of ten carry rhads. Are you ready?
Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
Yeah, I've done well so far you have I'm scared
ten points and then nine points last week.
Speaker 3 (01:07:36):
This is our third edition of twenty twenty five Carry Rhoads.
All NFL related questions today because of it being Championship Sunday.
Name one of two current NFC teams that have never
lost an NFC championship game.
Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
One of two that have never never lost.
Speaker 3 (01:07:57):
An NFC championship game. Yes, there are sixteen teams in
the National Football League. Two of them have never lost
an NFC championship game.
Speaker 2 (01:08:11):
I actually think the Cowboys. But wait, wait, let me hmm,
I'm gonna I'm gonna go to Martin. I think Martin
will will will help me on this one.
Speaker 4 (01:08:23):
Never lost an NFC, never lost an NFC championship game,
never lost.
Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
An NFC championship game.
Speaker 6 (01:08:30):
My first guess the New Orleans Saints, who have only
won one NFC championship game.
Speaker 4 (01:08:38):
I don't Martin's team. No, they lost to the No,
they beat the Vikens. That's right to go to this
and it makes sense a team that hasn't been there
a lot of times, and then you know they win
that one or two.
Speaker 6 (01:08:50):
I know they lost a playoff game to Philadelphia where
Reggie Bush got annihilated or a swing pass, but I
believe that was the divisional.
Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
Do you want to is that your final answer? Is
that your final answer?
Speaker 4 (01:09:04):
I'll trust Martin, Okay, because it makes sense if a
team hasn't been there a lot of times, they get
that one or two.
Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
Is it the New Orleans Saints? Is it the New
Orleans Saints? It is not. Remember they lost to the
Rams on the past interference that was such a damn
And I think they lost to the Bears in the Rex.
Speaker 8 (01:09:29):
Mart you know what.
Speaker 6 (01:09:31):
I forgot all about that because you know what, why
living in l A, you couldn't. No one would have
been able to tell you that was a Super Bowl going.
I can't believe I forgot. You Owe me what you.
Speaker 2 (01:09:43):
Got, Dan. What are the two?
Speaker 3 (01:09:44):
The New York Giants are five and oh they've never
lost an NFC championship game. In my Seattle Seahawks are
three and oh they've lost an AFC Championship game to
the Raiders in nineteen eighty three, but they have three
and oh they have have not lost an NFC championship game.
Almost into the Packers that one year, and Green Bay
(01:10:05):
blew it late. They had the game against the forty
nine ers, the Richard Sherman Michael Crabtree.
Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
And they uh sorry sorry crab Tree. Yes, they beat
the Panthers in their first NFC championship.
Speaker 7 (01:10:18):
Chiefs have never lost an NFC championship game either. Fun fast, Yeah,
very good, very good.
Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
You have the whole I've tried to trust Martin.
Speaker 3 (01:10:26):
Uh the uh good, good point pretty much. Yeah, everybody
that you have of the AFC would have worked as well.
But every NFC team has played in an NFC Championship game.
Cardinals and Lions only appeared in two. They were one
and one and zero and two.
Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
Right, all right?
Speaker 3 (01:10:41):
So moving on, name two of three carry NFL teams
that have made it to three consecutive Super Bowls.
Speaker 2 (01:10:48):
Two of three.
Speaker 4 (01:10:48):
Okay, we got Buffalo and we got oh you said
two of you said three consecutive.
Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
Three teams have made it to three straight Super Bowls.
Got Buffalo, and then we say it'll be like San Francisco, Dallas, Pittsburgh.
One of those who you got dian I.
Speaker 7 (01:11:14):
I'm thinking about the dominant years of Dallas in Las
Vegas or you know, I guess it was the Oakland
Raiders at the time slash LA. But both of those
teams had some dominant, dominant eras. So I feel like
one of them would would be in there at least,
if not both of them.
Speaker 4 (01:11:34):
I know Buffalo, and we got to get this one.
So you think Dallas or do you think?
Speaker 2 (01:11:38):
I mean not now?
Speaker 7 (01:11:39):
Other than it, you know there, like the Steelers have
had some good years.
Speaker 4 (01:11:44):
I'm gonna go buff I'm gonna go Buffalo, and I'm
gonna go Steelers.
Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
Okay, show me the Buffalo Bills. Yes, in fact, they
went to four straight. Yes, Super Bowls twenty five, twenty six,
twenty seven to twenty eight. And is it the Pittsburgh
Steelers and the Terry Bradshaw days. They won two, then
took two years off, and then won another two. The
Dallas Cowboys was a good guest, but that was not it,
(01:12:08):
Tom Brady.
Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
Yes, the Patriots by fifty one, fifty two, and fifty
three lost to the Eagles, beat the Rams. Yes, I
was gonna say, what's going on with you guys in
like that like six years ago? If you like like
blocked it out, the other one did block out.
Speaker 3 (01:12:28):
Yeah, Ian was on the right track to mind me.
Dolphins went to Super Bowl six, seven, and eight. But
those are the only three teams.
Speaker 6 (01:12:37):
Because I'm the one who mentioned the Steelers, So yeah,
I'm the one who mentioned it.
Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
He was like, oh yeah, Steelers. Sorry. All right, let's
see if Kerry could get back on track.
Speaker 3 (01:12:45):
Care name three of the all time receiving yardage leaders
for the Buffalo Bills. All time receiving yardage leaders.
Speaker 4 (01:12:52):
All right, I'll go Andre Reid. Okay, I'll go woo
Steph Eric no with Eric Moles be there.
Speaker 2 (01:13:07):
Andrey Reid. I don't try to make him too hard
for it.
Speaker 4 (01:13:15):
I'm getting Stefan Diggs because of the numbers and stuff
that he had as well.
Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
Andre Reid, Stefan Diggs. And now you good with Eric Molts?
I think so? All right?
Speaker 3 (01:13:30):
Show me Andre Reid number one, thirteen ninety five yards,
Show me Eric Moles n ninety six, he's second. Show
me Stefan Diggs fifty three hundred and seventy two yards.
Speaker 2 (01:13:45):
Yeah. Fourth, the third.
Speaker 3 (01:13:48):
Wide receiver actually played when you played Lee Evans? Yeah Evans, Yeah,
he got a lot of yards. Yeah, like big plays,
big plays. Fifty nine thirty four were on the other
side of the field, exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:14:02):
All right, Final one.
Speaker 3 (01:14:04):
Super Bowl teams that have moved since they appeared in
the Super Bowl, Yes, so they would have had to
have moved since they appeared in a Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:14:17):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:14:17):
And what I say would say, like this is if
this was an NBA question. Yeah, and I would say
you could say the Brooklyn Nets because when they were
in the NBA Finals, they were the New Jersey Nets.
Got so that's what I need to know.
Speaker 2 (01:14:30):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:14:30):
Super Bowl teams that have moved since they appeared in
the Super Bowl. City and nickname please city and nickname.
Speaker 2 (01:14:38):
All right, so we go. Uh the Baltimore Colts, Baltimore Ravens.
That's that would be one.
Speaker 3 (01:14:48):
Josh Allen almost threw an interception as the AFC Championship
Game is underway on a third down Chiefs force of
punt on Buffalo's first possession.
Speaker 2 (01:14:56):
Baltimore Colts, Ravens got a lifeline. You got Mary, you
got Ian, you got Martin, and what you got.
Speaker 7 (01:15:10):
Discuss I think I think the Raiders. I don't want to,
you know, Steer, you wrong again.
Speaker 2 (01:15:14):
With the Raiders here.
Speaker 7 (01:15:14):
But but the Raiders, I think.
Speaker 2 (01:15:17):
They haven't had a super Bowl since they changed though,
he said.
Speaker 3 (01:15:22):
Oh yeah, his in history the uh so if they're
Las Vegas now, were the Raiders in a different spot
when they made it to a previous.
Speaker 7 (01:15:33):
Right, That's how I'm getting it is that they've moved.
They won a super Bowl and then moved. Got it, Yes,
win a super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (01:15:39):
They just appeared, just appeared.
Speaker 4 (01:15:41):
Definitely that one. Then yes, Okay, So Martin's got his
hand up. So Oakland to Vegas. The Raiders, Baltimore Colts,
Baltimore Ravens. You got some Martin, you.
Speaker 6 (01:15:54):
Got Saint Louis to Los Angeles just because of Bill Vinovit.
Speaker 2 (01:15:58):
That's true, That is true. Take that one for one more.
We need one more. It's so crazy. I can't see
all the teams in my head. Anybody want to want
to help. We're gonna have to take Yeah, let's go,
we can get it. Let's go, guys. I'm just trying
to think of teams.
Speaker 3 (01:16:18):
I'll tell you what you think of teams. We're gonna
run the answers down. Show me the Baltimore Colts, show
me the Oakland Raiders, show me the Saint Louis Rams.
You got three of them? You got one more in
you four?
Speaker 2 (01:16:35):
Three?
Speaker 8 (01:16:36):
Two?
Speaker 4 (01:16:36):
Wait, Commanders, Redkins, is that the same? Would that be
the same? You should have gone with Martin. It was
the San Diego Chargers, Yes, and LA Raiders. You would
have had Oakland two a also as an Oakland in
that scenario.
Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
Seven points. Good job carry Roads. Bill's forced a punt
on their first possession. Kansas City's got a first and
ten from their own ten in the AFC Championship Game.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio, and Kansas City
has wasted no time, scoring on a nine play, ninety
hour drive, covering just over five minutes. Extra point is good.
(01:17:17):
Chiefs lead the Bills seven to nothing as Kareem Hunt
gets into the end zone from twelve yards out. The
Chiefs to not face a third down on that nine
play drive.
Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
The Chiefs made that one look easy.
Speaker 4 (01:17:30):
Dan, Like we were saying in the studio before we
came back, well, I was saying the same thing happened
last week with Buffalo. They allow Baltimore to go down easy,
score that first open and touchdown and they were able
to bounce back. So let's hopefully hope that that's the
same recipe.
Speaker 2 (01:17:46):
And it's good.
Speaker 3 (01:17:46):
Carrie said that because I have a tendency to say
I said things when we both agree on the same point,
but I make it sound like it's my own good
to point that out. All Right, it's an abbreviated version,
but it's time to carry out. Carry Rhodes weighs in
on hot topics. We start right off the gate coaching
news in the NFL. Liam Cohen kind of went incognito,
(01:18:09):
a no show to his Buccaneers on the contract extension.
Speaker 2 (01:18:12):
Now the head coach of the Jaguars, Yeah, I'm I'm
not carrying on on that one. You don't like how
he handled it.
Speaker 4 (01:18:24):
No, to start off your regime with a sour taste
that way, not owning up to you know, you wanting
to go be.
Speaker 2 (01:18:35):
A head coach somewhere, like, if you want to do that,
do that.
Speaker 4 (01:18:38):
Don't have people pulling along with you when you're saying
you're going to be there and then all of a
sudden you're not answering the calls and now you're am I.
That's something that's not cool. So I'm not cool on
that one. I don't like Liam for that one.
Speaker 3 (01:18:52):
Ben Johnson, now the head coach of the Chicago Bears,
also calling out Matt Lafleur in the process.
Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
I'm carrying on on now, right, you like that? Yeah,
I'm with it.
Speaker 4 (01:19:03):
I'm down with Ben Johnson saying that he knows, he
knows the history, he knows the history of those organizations,
he knows the talk that's happened between Green Bay and
in Chicago for years, and Aaron Rodgers saying they own Chicago.
Speaker 2 (01:19:16):
All those things matter.
Speaker 4 (01:19:17):
So the fact that he has that awareness to the history,
I like coming out firing all guns of blades.
Speaker 2 (01:19:22):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:19:23):
Your former team has hired Aaron Glenn is their head coach,
Aaron Glenn with the New York Jets.
Speaker 2 (01:19:27):
You on board? Carry on? Yeah, we talk about culture.
Speaker 4 (01:19:35):
We talk about bad cultures, bad you know, good culture.
Speaker 2 (01:19:39):
What does that look like? Aaron Glenn's part of the
good culture of the Jets.
Speaker 4 (01:19:43):
He was a winner, first round pick, somebody that have
put blood and sweat in that building. You saw what
he did in Detroit with a defense that was really
bad when he first got there. Got those guys to
fly around and compete. He's the right guy for the Jets.
Speaker 3 (01:19:57):
So I'm carrying on and Aaron Rodgers may be sticking
around this wow for twenty twenty five. There it is
another great addition of carry on Chiefsly the bill seven
to nothing midway through the first quarter of the AFC
Championship Game, while the Eagles. Eagles are heading the Super
Bowl fifty nine with a win over the Commanders. We'll
hear from some of the key players next on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:20:18):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:20:22):
We may have already reached a crucial spot on this
AFC Championship game. Buffalo attempting a field goal of significant
distance fifty four yarder from Tyler Bass are going to
call it a fifty three yarder carry Rhodes.
Speaker 2 (01:20:36):
And the kick is good.
Speaker 3 (01:20:40):
Yes, Carry Rhoads is a happy man because you felt
that other teams may have caved to the pressure and
going for it.
Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
You liked Sean McDermott kicking the three. I love taking
the points early.
Speaker 4 (01:20:53):
No teams want to keep up, and these games like
this and especially Kansas City went down and s easily.
You don't expect them to keep that up this whole game.
That hasn't been there MO all year. Offensively, they haven't
put up a lot of points, and they haven't put
teams away early. So take the points and stay in
the game and stay connected. Not give them momentum, go
(01:21:14):
four on fourth down and not get it possibly and
give them good field position again.
Speaker 2 (01:21:17):
It wouldn't have been smart for me. If he misses it, though.
Speaker 3 (01:21:21):
Kansas City then has got supreme field position already up
seven to nothing, they'll get the ball again at the
start of the second half. I thought best case scenario
is that the Bills win the toss defer and then
Kansas City is forced to have the football first. But
for because I think that the Chiefs really feed off
of their defense. And when Buffalo comes to town, a
(01:21:44):
team that we feel's offense is their mo and if
they're gonna win, it's going to be because of Josh
Allen to get the stop that they did early and
then to go down and drive ninety yards again, there
were no third downs on that drive for the Chief.
They move the chains, moved them very quickly, and now
you've got a.
Speaker 2 (01:22:04):
Seven to three ball game.
Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
As Buffalo is able to answer that touchdown at least
with some points of their own.
Speaker 2 (01:22:09):
Yeah, I as well.
Speaker 4 (01:22:11):
I don't want to say as easily as both teams
have moved the ball, but Kannas City moved the ball,
or rather easily. But the fact that both teams came
out and got points early in this game, I still
don't Dick I said, don't see this game being a
high scoring game. So taking the points there and getting
them was essential for Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (01:22:26):
In this moment, we are broadcasting live from the tierraq

The Way tire Buying should be Winner of this AFC
Championship game faces the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl fifty nine.
Eagles routing the Commanders today fifty five to twenty three.
Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
What a day.
Speaker 3 (01:22:52):
I was gonna say, what a day it was for
Saquon Barkley, who we're gonna hear from in a second.
But honestly, it was a great day for everybody in Philadelphia.
Jalen Hurts got three touchdowns. AJ Brown got into the
end zone. Dallas Goddard caught seven of his eight targets
for eighty five yards. Heck Will Shipley got into the
end zone and also had a fifty seven yard run.
Jalen Hurts with the bum knee two hundred and forty
(01:23:14):
six yards in the air. I mentioned the touchdown pass
to AJ Brown. Very very few things went wrong for
the Philadelphia Eagles today. Their defense forces for Washington turnovers
and they get this thirty two point victory over Washington
to advance to Super Bowl fifty nine.
Speaker 4 (01:23:29):
Yeah, this game was like an Oprah Winfrey Christmas show.
You get a cheese steak, you get a cheese steak,
You get a cheeseak.
Speaker 2 (01:23:36):
They all ate them. Was fed it. Everybody had a
good time today.
Speaker 3 (01:23:40):
The Washington Commanders have a great season, yeah, and one
that was highlighted by their win last week against the
Detroit Lions. I just don't think that Detroit was the
same team that we saw in the regular season. It's
not an injury excuse sort of thing. But for Washington
to go in there and score forty five points and
do what they did and force five turnovers. When you're Washington,
(01:24:04):
that's what you look back at and that is your
high point of your season. The point of Jaden Daniels
in the discussion with him and moving forward, is there's
going to be a lot of Jaden Daniels hype. I
hope Washington enjoyed this because if there's anything you realize,
you think your team is now going to be in contention,
which they should be. They should be in contention. The
(01:24:27):
front office now seems to be squared away. They should
be a team that competes. But as we've seen, ask
Lamar Jackson to the Baltimore Ravens, not every year do
you make.
Speaker 2 (01:24:34):
It to the conference championship. You just don't.
Speaker 4 (01:24:37):
And you're right, like, really celebrate this moment, huge moment
you got your quarterback. That's the hardest thing to do.
They have that, now, let's build that team properly. That
team over at tie this year. They got some talent,
they definitely have holes that they need to fix. And
so if they have competent owner the ownership group which
(01:24:59):
they have GM in place, now it's time to really
take it to the next level because it's not promised
next year, and so they got to make sure they
stay humbled and ready to work.
Speaker 3 (01:25:09):
Sam Cosmi was lost to a torn ACL. He had
signed a new deal with Washington, considered their best offensive lineman.
Speaker 2 (01:25:15):
They didn't have him today. That was a problem.
Speaker 3 (01:25:18):
So Washington, well, people wanted to point to Detroit and
all the injuries that they had and maybe fairly so
throughout the season what they had to deal with. Washington
also had to deal with some stuff heading into today's game,
but just not enough firepower to match what Philadelphia was
able to put forth.
Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
That firepower a lot of it.
Speaker 3 (01:25:34):
Sakwon Barkley here was the running back with Fox after
the win in the NFC Championship.
Speaker 9 (01:25:39):
Gamel Gun, I ain't gonna latch on down't play it
in my head, but it's just amazing, man, it's amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:25:48):
We're here, super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (01:25:51):
But the goal wasn't just getting there to go to win,
and we're gonna celebrate and enjoy us and get right
back to work.
Speaker 3 (01:25:57):
So sakwon Barkley getting to go to his first suite
Super Bowl. The Joe Shane comments making their way around
social media again from Hard Knocks, which was the greatest
show that we've seen in television for a long time.
I don't know why any other NFL team would want
to do it, considering what Joe Shane in the flat
that they're getting and being completely honest, they obviously read
the situation wrong, but it's just the point of Saquon
(01:26:20):
Barkley would not have had the same season with the
Giants if he was in New York. This is what
happens when you get a top two or three running
back in the National Football League, maybe even top one,
and put him behind a top one, two or three
line in the National Football League. These are the results
that you're gonna get. And now the Philadelphia Eagles are
into the Super Bowl. Is this a recipe that other
(01:26:43):
teams should now try to follow if you can? In
the NFL in trying to have success, we talk about
the extinsion of running backs, But we've had this resurgence
this year with Derrick Henry and Josh Jacobs in new
places and Saquon maybe most notably. So do you think
other teams will try to copy what at least Philadelphia
tried to do this year?
Speaker 4 (01:27:03):
Well, yeah, that's what happens when teams have success, Teams
try to emulate that and try to add some of
that to their repertoire. But you got to find a
sa Kuon Barkley to do that, so you can have
all the other pieces in play. But if you can't
get sa Kuon Barkley or Derek Henry, then you're just
you're reaching. So I mean it's a combination of having,
(01:27:26):
you know, two generational type of guys in Saquon. And
I wasn't ready to say that about Saquon until this
Until this year seeing him in New York, I thought
he was just a really good player, but putting him
in a situation where the other parts of the of
the cake, all the recipes add up to a tasty one,
(01:27:46):
a really good red velvet cake, and when you see
that together and it all comes together, it can be special.
And so being able to see a special player like
that in a special environment makes it really worthwhile. So
I mean, yes, you would want to do that, You
would want to be that team that can follow in
the footsteps, but first you got to find a say
Kuon Barkley. But I'm happy for the kid. I don't
(01:28:08):
think you can do the exact recipe.
Speaker 2 (01:28:10):
It's hard.
Speaker 3 (01:28:11):
But we've seen Detroit have success. And we've seen Detroit
this year do what they did with David Montgomery and
Jamior Gibbs and then when Montgomery went out, Gibbs took
on a more prominent role and was amazing for them
down the stretch with Montgomery out, and the Lions have
one of the better offensive lines in the National Football League.
And this is what I would like to see with
(01:28:32):
other teams in the NFL. Like Josh Jacobs became great
for the green Bay Packers because Green Bay's got a
better offensive line than what he had to deal with
with the Raiders and better quarterback play. And I think
that there is because I hate to see the extinction
of the running back and I'd love to see heck,
(01:28:53):
even in Houston, with what Joe Mixon was able to
do for as tough of a year as it was
for CJ. Stroud this year and dealing with the offensive
line pressures that the Texans had. Joe Mixon at least
proved to be somewhat of a to give the offense
a breather, to give the offense production something that they
didn't get a ton from previously. I know Damian Pierce
(01:29:15):
had a flashy season a couple of years ago, but
you were looking for something consistent with that. So now
we see it in kind of in Houston, we see
it in Green Bay. We see what Dereck Henry added
to Baltimore even though Baltimore didn't get as far as
they did last year, and now we see what Saquon did.
I don't think that that's coincidence, Carrie. I know that
these are top talent, top talents in the National Football League,
(01:29:38):
their first round picks, second round picks, whatever. But it's
just the point of there are other running backs that
are going to be coming along that I think can
have the same effect if teams can focus on that
portion of their team, and that's the offensive line and
the running game. I really hope this changes the thought
that we have about running backs and now allow them
(01:29:59):
to be valued more than they were previously.
Speaker 4 (01:30:02):
No, I you know, I come from the game when
I played, the running back play was extremely important, right,
And so you know the old adage of you know,
ball security on offense, being able to run the ball
and play defense, and you know, playing special teams, playing
complimentary football. Bring that back. That's a recipe to win.
(01:30:23):
And I've seen that in my time planning the years
before I was there, and even you know, just as
recent as a couple of years ago. Right, you have
balance on offense. It's not just about the quarterback, as
much as we want to give those guys all the
praise when the team wins. To have a running game,
to be able to salt away games. And you know,
(01:30:43):
even if you get some big plays by your quarterback
and receivers down, you know during throughout the game, we
can rely on this guy to win the game. For
us to run the ball and not turn the ball over,
it's important. So I want to see that part of
it glorified again as well.
Speaker 2 (01:30:58):
You saw what I just saw.
Speaker 3 (01:31:00):
I hear that Patrick Mahomes was dropping back to pass
and fumble the football, and he did and it was
recovered by Buffalo in Kansas City Territory. The only problem
had Oliver jumped off sides. Defensive offsides wipes out the
potential turnover, gives the Chiefs a first down in Buffalo territory,
and now Kareem Hunt has taken it for about thirteen
(01:31:20):
yards down to the thirty yard line. But you had
to play there where at Oliver jumps off sides, and honestly,
his off sides did cause the pressure on Patrick Mahomes
in that scenario which caused the fumble. But now Kansas
City has an opportunity here after trying to answer the
Buffalo field goal by putting some more points of Theirs
on the board.
Speaker 4 (01:31:40):
Yeah, Buffalo needs to tighten up here. They're allowing right now,
what I've seen so far is they're allowing Patrick Mahomes
to get out the pocket. And obviously, once he makes
a couple of plays that way puts so much stress
on your defense.
Speaker 2 (01:31:53):
So they got to keep him in the pocket. And
I know that's part of the.
Speaker 4 (01:31:56):
Game plan going in because he makes a lot of
plays when he's on the move.
Speaker 3 (01:32:00):
Again, Kansas City has not had a third down in
this in this game. This is the sack on Patrick
Mahomes was the second and two and the penalty allowed
them to get the first down. Xavier Worthy just takes
this first round play, gets about eight yards, So now
it's There's been a lot of second and two so
far for Kansas City in this contest, and Buffalo's defense
(01:32:22):
is susceptible. They need something from them, whether it be
a turnover, They need a big stop. But right now
Kansas City has gotten no resistance or felt no resistance
from the Buffalo defense in this contest.
Speaker 2 (01:32:35):
Not being a negative. Nancy Dan turnover right there, and
now there it is. There's her turnover.
Speaker 3 (01:32:41):
Patrick Mahomes tried to hand it off to Isaiah Pacheco.
There it is, and the mesh point was not received.
And now it's the first turnover since for Kansas City
since they played at Buffalo in week eleven.
Speaker 4 (01:32:55):
Wow, he tried, he tried to do the replay. That
was all on Patrick Mahomes, so he tried to pull
it make a play.
Speaker 2 (01:33:01):
Oh wow. If that was the Philadelphia game, the ball
would have already been down in Patrick Mahomes hand. We
got the referees giving them a good call and Oliver
ripped it away from Patrick Mahomes' hands. Mahomes did not
have have control, Although.
Speaker 3 (01:33:14):
They could review it and say Mahomes had control and
was touched down and that would be buffalo ball.
Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
They'll look at it, they'll look at the review.
Speaker 3 (01:33:21):
But it was clearly a fumble, yeah, because Isaiah Pachecko
thought Mahomes was keeping it, and I think Mahomes felt
that Pacheco was taking it.
Speaker 4 (01:33:28):
That mess point is dangerous. I mean, you see so
many times those quarterbacks. I mean, and I see you know,
I watched Baltimore a lot, and that's been part of
their their problem with the mess point. You know, the
quarterback trying to pull it at the last second. It's
that's such a hard play. Even though it's it works
a lot, it's definitely high risk.
Speaker 3 (01:33:45):
Well, is aah Pachecko had been such a big part
of the Chiefs run and then it gets hurt early
in the season and Kansas City's looking for running backs
anywhere and they end up bringing in Kareem Hunt. Start
of this game, it was Kareem Hunt. Kareem Hunt, Kareem Hunt.
Kareem Hunt's got the twelve yard touchdown run for Kansas
City's points. You wonder on how much Pachecko's I don't
(01:34:06):
want to say it's rusty carry because he's been back
for a while, but it hasn't been the same way
that they've handled the backfield because they've had success with
Kareem Hunt to that role.
Speaker 4 (01:34:16):
Yeah, that's one of those plays where it is it
is about repetition, right, It's a feel like you running
back has to have loose hands there. He can't have
a firm grip on it because the quarterback has a
chance to pull it.
Speaker 2 (01:34:27):
So some of that could be the problem. He's carry roads.
I'm Dan Byer.
Speaker 3 (01:34:31):
So Buffalo will take over with the football near the
end of the first quarter. After that turnover, they'll be
in their own territory. But thwarning at Kansas City, scoring
drive first and ten for the Bills that they're on
twenty eight. The winner of this faces the Eagles in
the Super Bowl in New Orleans coming up two weeks
from today. To get all the info on how Philadelphia
(01:34:51):
got it done and how much credit Nick Sirianni deserves,
we'll ask our NFL inside or next He's carry roads.
Speaker 2 (01:34:56):
I'm Dan Byer. This is Fox Sports Radio. Early in the.
Speaker 3 (01:35:01):
Second quarter, the Chiefs leave the bill seven to three
with Buffalo. After that, Kansas City fumble driving in Chiefs territory.
I got a Minicon buy in the second quarter. Kansas
City up seven to three, but Buffalo with a football
facing a second and six on the Kansas City thirty
four yard line. He is Carrie Roads. I'm Dan Byer.
One ticket has been punched in New Orleans. It's the
(01:35:22):
Philadelphia Eagles who topped the Commanders today fifty five to
twenty three. That has to be scoring a gami. By
the way, I have not logged into Blue Sky or
seen it, but fifty five twenty three can't happen too often,
but it happened today in Philadelphia. Our NFL insider Adam Kaplan,
who also hosts the Eagles podcast the Inside the Birds
podcast rights for Pro Football Network. Adam covering the sport
(01:35:46):
for a long time, is our NFL insider here on
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:35:50):
It joins us.
Speaker 3 (01:35:51):
Now, let's start in your backyard, Adam Kamplan with this
Philadelphia Eagles game.
Speaker 2 (01:35:58):
Was it just the four turnovers what allowed.
Speaker 3 (01:36:01):
Philadelphia to put together this dominating performance against them?
Speaker 8 (01:36:04):
Well, actually.
Speaker 9 (01:36:07):
The fumbles contributed to it, but what really kept the
Commanders in the game early though, was that fake punt
when they were down fourteen to three, and I'm like, well,
you know, the momentum shifted to the Eagles.
Speaker 8 (01:36:20):
They get the fake.
Speaker 9 (01:36:21):
Punt and that kept them in the game, and then
they fumbled again penalties. Then it just rolled downhill and
they couldn't stop. It's a very odd first half, guys,
it really was. I mean, people will probably forget about this,
but the Commanders actually scored first a field goal, but
then Barkley scores on his first touch.
Speaker 8 (01:36:39):
It was just a very odd first half.
Speaker 9 (01:36:40):
Then the Eagles rolled and for the third time now
in seven years in the Super Bowl. One of them
they won in twenty seventeen that year, and they won
it in January of February of eighteen, and then two
years ago, of course, they lost to Kansas City. And
we'll see they might be playing the Chiefs again. We'll
find out tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:37:00):
Him being there, and obviously, you know, us us being fans,
we were talking about sa kuon Barkley and just how
just how good, how great he's been since he's been there.
He looked a little like he was a little injured early.
Was there anything going on in his in his U
injury wise? As far as he's gone.
Speaker 8 (01:37:18):
Yes, So what happened was a couple things.
Speaker 9 (01:37:20):
Virtual Kenny Gamwell's back, I had a concussion, so he
had to stay in the third down. He's not a
good pass protector. Yeah, so I gained game was typically
on a third down. But the back of his ankle
they were massaging yet kellyes area, that area, nothing wrong.
Speaker 8 (01:37:34):
But he was soure.
Speaker 9 (01:37:36):
And he also had a thigh issue. He had a
wrist issue, a right wrist issue issue the week before.
But so what happened was when he hurt his leg,
he went on the bike and you saw he was
trying to keep himself loose. But that that was really it.
But I got to give Eagles credit. They were able
to overcome. You know, I'm sure you saw this like
they had pretty significant offensive line change. So Cam Jurgen's
there's there's their center, first year starter, Jason Kelsey's for
(01:37:59):
place has this bad back. As I understand, he barely
practiced Friday. They felt he'd be able to play, but
they didn't know how long he could play. So they said,
you know what, we're gonna have him active. We're gonna
move Land and Dickerson, their left guard who was a
center at one point in college, they move over to center,
Tyler Stein to left guard who played tackle on college
(01:38:20):
at Alabama, but who's been cross training guard, and then
went with it, and then Dickerson hurts his knee. You
might have seen the video on the sideline where Dickerson
and Jurgens are trying to figure out who's going to
go in, because Landon wanted to go back in and
Jurgens wanted to go and he felt he could play,
and then the trainers held him mount in the second half,
and now they've got this buy so they can get
Jalen hurts his knee one week better. You know, he
(01:38:41):
looked great today by the way throwing it and running it,
but he had that touchdown called back a j Brown's knee,
which he's had this knee injury since the Pittsburgh game
when they were throwing the ball to try to run
the clock out and he jammed his knee in the turf.
Some people thought it was a penalty. But bottom line
is as this this game, tonight goes along. Eagles are
moving on and with a decisive.
Speaker 3 (01:39:01):
Victory and the Buffalo Bills Josh Allen actually dropped back
to pass and lost the Football recovered it but took
a ten yard loss on it. So a second and
twenty back to about their forty yard line. Quick pass
to Mac Collins for ten yards, then a big gainer
to Khalil Shakir took the Bills inside the five yard line,
and James Cook is just taking it in from about
(01:39:21):
five yards out and the extra point is good. Buffalo
has just taken a lead on Kansas City ten to
seven with ten twenty five to go until halftime. Carry
and I were discussing the Eagles makeup and obviously all
world running back in Saquon Barkley, offensive line that traditionally
has been tops, if not number one, in the NFL.
We're saying top three. How easy is it to replicate, though,
(01:39:43):
what the Eagles have done? Adam and I ask that
because we see teams trying to always just find that
franchise quarterback, is this an easier route to take if
you can find a running game in the NFL nowadays,
how easy is it to replicate?
Speaker 9 (01:39:57):
Well, Dan, the best thing to do is actually if
you want to stay Uddie Philly and I remember talking
to Joe Douglas, who is a former Jets general manager
who it was with Eagles for a spell. So I
asked Joe what its philosophy would be. I remember when
he I said, if you've become a general manager. Kind
of knew he would someday, and he did. How would
you build your team, he said, with the Lions, just
like they do it in Philly, just like we did
in Baltimore.
Speaker 8 (01:40:17):
You start with the offensive defensive line. You work your
way up.
Speaker 9 (01:40:20):
Some teams do it back to front, which I'd never
agreed with, but the Eagles start front to back.
Speaker 8 (01:40:26):
So Dan, that is the winning formula. Protect your quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:40:29):
They do.
Speaker 9 (01:40:31):
Really, Jalen Carter might be the best defensive tackle in football,
one of the best defensive players in football for sure.
Right now. Number ninety eight is just an absolute beast
now in a second season, so that's really And now
they've mixed in so many young players who, quite frankly,
guys were not developing last year. That's why the coordinators
were removed from last year's staff, and they have two
new ones. They've been running vic Fango's defense. Now they're
(01:40:53):
running the real Vick is here. Players are being developed
and to move this further, that's something coaching is better.
Offensive line is elite. I don't know why this is
another to bring this further. I don't understand why other
teams don't copy this. You think it's like the easiest thing.
A lot of teams don't have the same philosophy. Detroit
Brad Holmes their general manager. Now he inherited some of
(01:41:16):
the players, and then he drafted some of the players
and signed some free agents. But if you look at
the Eagles offensive line, now they got kind of lucky.
My lit at the left tackle never played football in
his life. He's a rugby player. Okay, God never I
was there at his first practice. He didn't know what
he's doing in twenty eighteen. Okay, he actually, you're not
kerry as you know in OTAs, you're not a lot
of contact. He was pushing guys over. They had to
(01:41:36):
stop practices even though he's not allowed to do that.
Speaker 8 (01:41:39):
Okay.
Speaker 9 (01:41:40):
Lannon Dickerson, who he Why did he drop out of
the first round? Major knee problems at Alabama?
Speaker 2 (01:41:45):
Okay?
Speaker 8 (01:41:45):
Mackai Beckton never.
Speaker 2 (01:41:47):
Played gard in his life.
Speaker 8 (01:41:49):
How do you explain this? Okay?
Speaker 9 (01:41:51):
Lane Johnson will be a Hall of Famer, most likely
someday if the voters are willing to overlook the suspensions.
He's getting the Hall of Fame, so why might bring
this up? Lead offensive line, an excellent defensive line. Oh,
by the way, Cooper de Jean Quinnon, Mitchell in the
running for Rookies of the Year. Howie Roseman, who people
wanted fired after their twenty trowny draft, which was terrible.
(01:42:11):
He's been elite since then. I just voted for him
for Pro Football Regis Association Executive the Year. So Dan,
I throw it back to you, get the picks right,
build on your lines, get a quarterback you could believe in,
and then you add Saquon Barkley now and quite frankly,
I think if you would talk to the Eagles, they
think there's still a lot to go for this passing game,
(01:42:32):
but this is why they're there.
Speaker 4 (01:42:33):
Oh yeah, I mean the past game has a lot
of work to do, so it's not complicated at all.
Better today though, No, No, they had a great game plan,
and I think, what what lent you know, Jalen Hurts
having that much open, open greenery and making it really
clear was the commitment that the commanders had to stop
and run. So it made it. It made it a
lot simpler for him, but not trying to take anything
(01:42:54):
away from him. He had a great game today. But
I want to talk about you talked about it. You
talk about the line for the Eagles, and I want
to zero in on one person in particular. We know
about most of those guys, but to get a guy
that was disgrunold in New York playing playing tackle and
you know, didn't want to play guard. What made mackay
beckedn buy in to play guard with the Eagles?
Speaker 8 (01:43:16):
Well? Carry.
Speaker 9 (01:43:16):
This is an interesting story because they actually came to
him and said, hey, listen, we're going to cross train you.
We want you to be our top back up left
and right tackle. But Jeff stout In the offensive line coach,
thought he could also play guard. And to McKay's credit, guys,
he said, hey, because jeff'stout in their offensive line coach
whose ies paid old line coach I believe in NFL history.
Speaker 8 (01:43:39):
He he this is his idea and it wasn't Howie's idea.
Rosemond general manager. He thought he could do it.
Speaker 9 (01:43:46):
And Stoutlin's has a history of lining up guys who
were typically tackles and lining them up inside. Yeah, Todd
Herriman's who was drafted as a tackle would move inside
and others, and to his credit, McKay got his weight down. Now,
I'm told that with the Jets at one point he
was about four or five, which is not what you're
looking for.
Speaker 2 (01:44:02):
He's a big man, right, and he's he was.
Speaker 9 (01:44:04):
Around three seventy at one point, which, by the way,
you could live with that being he's around sixty eight.
But the fact that he's missed very little time they
say this is another thing.
Speaker 8 (01:44:12):
Guys. Let's I don't take anything away.
Speaker 9 (01:44:14):
From Eagles, but for the most part, they've been relatively healthy.
Health matters, Guys. When you get to the Super Bowls,
you're gonna lose people like Brandon Graham, one of the
best players in Eagles history. On defense, he tours triceps
right yep, So that was a killer. Nikobe Dean, who
was having a breakout season an inside backer, he suffered
(01:44:35):
a major knee injury. He may not even play next season.
But other than that, they've been pretty healthy and that's
why they're here.
Speaker 3 (01:44:40):
Buffalo just forced a third down of the Kansas City
Chiefs on third and one, and Kareem Hunt tried to
go over the top but was stopped short, and Kansas
City is going to have a decision to make on
a fourth and one in their own territory ten to
seven ball game Buffalo on top of the Chiefs eight
forty nine and counting, and it appears that the Chiefs
at least going to consider going for it in this situation.
(01:45:03):
Adam kaplan our NFL in center, joining Carey Rhoads and
myself Dan Byer here on Fox Sports Radio. So Washington
loses their season's over a lot of great to take
from it. Where do they need to get better this offseason?
Speaker 2 (01:45:16):
Is it? Offensive line? Is that what we're boy?
Speaker 9 (01:45:18):
Yeah, it's so funny, Dan, you said that because I
have to for a sports grade, you know, I do
TV for them. Yeah, and I know this is gonna
come up, and that's probably It's one of these things
that I got to give Bobby Johnson, their offensive line
coach credit. I didn't see. I don't know how he
did this, like if you look at their best. But
by the way, you know, Sam cosed me their best
offensive line of tours right acl last week. So they
(01:45:40):
won't have him till sometime next season, probably midway. Yeah, now,
I know talking to the commanders about their offensive line.
They kind of know where they're at with it. They
know they're gonna address it. They're gonna help out Terry McLaurin.
On the other side, Diammy Brown was a great story
com into the season. He was the fourth receiver. He
had to play a lot late, did a good job.
Speaker 8 (01:45:58):
But they have to.
Speaker 9 (01:45:59):
They had other than mclauy, and they're gonna address the
receiver corps. They're gonna address her offensive line. They need
more juice at running back. They'll do that. They need
more edge rushers. That that's why it's like a miracle
they got this far. This is this is what we
love dan about the National Football League. Who could have
seen this? I know our Steve Hartman's Steve predicted the
Broncos to make the playoffs.
Speaker 8 (01:46:18):
I didn't see that.
Speaker 2 (01:46:18):
Yeah, he left. Everybody know that one now.
Speaker 9 (01:46:20):
But you know what, but Cary, here's the thing. The
oddsmakers had them for five and a half wins for
the future number. I mean, come on, by the way,
I like the under all minute, it would be definitely
be terrible because bo next A lot of scouts that
I talked to, you didn't like him. At all, and
it's been a great story. So Dan, as I sent
it back to you. This is why we love the
National Football League.
Speaker 8 (01:46:37):
We think we know. What we don't know is yeah,
Jim Moore.
Speaker 3 (01:46:40):
Would say, and the Chiefs got the first down on
that fourth and one out of Patrick Mahomes keep her
on a boot and gets about six yards. And now
it's first and ten from the forty five yard line.
Speaker 4 (01:46:51):
And we talk about the Commander's Adam As. I mean,
all that stuff you just rattled off is obviously insane
to think about that team.
Speaker 8 (01:46:56):
And the rush has been very good.
Speaker 2 (01:46:58):
That's crazy.
Speaker 9 (01:46:59):
Great coaching, by the way, give Dan Quinn credit. But
the quarterback, when you have a quarterback is Dan brought
up Cary, you know, as a former player, and I
loved by the way. I love to get your list
of quarterbacks you played with. I'm just curious, yea, it
should be interesting. But when you get it right at quarterback,
you just built around. But it makes it easier. It's
not easy, let me be clear, but it's easier you
(01:47:21):
start there now. The late great Gil Brand told me
when I knew Gil many years ago, because I asked him,
how did you like? How did you build a roster said,
we had a positional value board. It was quarterback, right,
defensive end, offensive left tackle, and then I don't have
it in front of me, but I think it was
cornerback than wide receiver. But it's quarterback, the most important
(01:47:43):
position in sports. So Philly's got their, as you mention it,
Washington has theirs, and then you build around. Eagles have
this elite offensive line, really good defensive line. And by
the way, one more guy I want to mention Milt
Williams and number ninety three. Nobody outside of the Eagles
who knows who this guy is. He's probably going to
sign a major free agent deal. He's a phenomenal football
player nobody talks about out of Louisiana Tech.
Speaker 8 (01:48:03):
He he just he's finishing up his fourth year. Really
good football player.
Speaker 3 (01:48:06):
All right, let's quick gids your thoughts before we let
you go on the head coaching news that happened this week.
I'm shocked at Pete Carroll's back in the game. I
guess it would have to be now because he can't
wait five years to hire him. But how did the
Raiders end up settling on Pete Carroll?
Speaker 9 (01:48:19):
So here this is the first thing Dan is like,
this is I don't want to say historically bad group
or list of coaches, but for the second straight year
is Ben Johnson everybody else? It's like, how how did
Brian Schotenheimer get the job? Like that's another man. The
former players are just killing the shoddy.
Speaker 3 (01:48:35):
Oh, I got one next to me who said nice
things actually actually actually okay, okay, let me ask you
a question.
Speaker 8 (01:48:42):
But I forgot you. You were there?
Speaker 9 (01:48:44):
Then, okay, let me wait a minute, hang on, hang on,
huh so were you were? Were you there for the
back to back championship games? Kerry were the first one?
Speaker 8 (01:48:53):
First one?
Speaker 2 (01:48:54):
Okay? Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:48:54):
The word I got inside the Jets was Shotty's offense
was too complicated. Guys are complaining there was just too
much of there is just processing everything and the players
got the kind of turnal shot a little bit. Then again,
this is a long time ago.
Speaker 8 (01:49:11):
Now. The guy's a good football coach, Yes, but what
do you think you were around there? What do you
think happened?
Speaker 2 (01:49:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:49:16):
My response to that was great, guy, fun to be around,
knows football. Obviously, he cannot organize a group of fifty
three to sixty one guys to do the same thing.
So that would be man, I think is it a
command thing? Yeah, because he's one of those guys. And
I guess when you're a coordinator or you're somebody that's
not been in the head coach position, there's a there's
(01:49:39):
the ability to be a little bit lax, right, you
don't have to handle everything that comes up, all the
fires that need to be put out.
Speaker 2 (01:49:45):
I just don't see him as that guy.
Speaker 9 (01:49:46):
And so he was, you know, he he's got to
be around fifty fifty wow, Okay, And I don't know
the guy. So I'm just trying to because he was
then probably mid thirties. He was young with us, yes, right,
and you know, guys evolve, you know, we'll see I
So this is what I got from my Cowboys people.
(01:50:07):
So let me read this to you because I put
this on TV today. So why did shot he get
the job?
Speaker 4 (01:50:12):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:50:12):
This is this is.
Speaker 9 (01:50:15):
This is what they told me presence command based on
them being around him for two seasons. You know, he
was a senior offensive system that they got promoted to
offensive coordinator. They want to keep the same scheme, the
continuity going. Russell Wilson back at twenty twenty had Pete, Carroll,
kN Mike co manage Shotty. Yep, most people don't know this.
You know this stands PC.
Speaker 2 (01:50:36):
I brought it up earlier.
Speaker 9 (01:50:37):
He had twenty eight touchdowns in eight games. And by
this is the let Russ Cook thing. By the way, Dan,
here's the real story. So the front office other people
went to Pete and said, let just finally give in
the coming out frong early and shot It was shot
He's very idtical, like he's in analytics and data.
Speaker 8 (01:50:55):
And he nailed it. And then Pete micro managed it
and they clashed and he fired him after the season.
But that's now.
Speaker 9 (01:51:01):
Now I'll say this about Shotty. That was great, But
Kerrie's talking about now you got to manage a football team.
Speaker 8 (01:51:06):
You're not.
Speaker 9 (01:51:07):
You got to be able to manage people. You got
to be able to connect with people. Look at Nick Sirian,
who's now what we call CEO ED coach. For all
the issues people have had with him and some of
the antics, the guy's a pretty good football coach. He's
at fifty three and twenty three it's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (01:51:23):
Yeah, And four four years for playoff appearances is the
Chiefs convert a third and four of the AFC Championship Game,
but Siriani continues to win and now back in the
Super Bowl for the second time in three years. He's
Adam Kaplan our Fox Sports Radio NFL in center. There
is some laundry on the field. Adam will let you
go and we'll let everybody know what's happening with your
flag and we'll hopefully talk to you next week. Adam
(01:51:45):
Kaplan find him at Kaplan NFL. Let's go over to
the news desk, Martin Weiss giving us the latest no
score of GAMI.
Speaker 2 (01:51:52):
Martin told me it was not score a GAMI. Just
to clean that up.
Speaker 6 (01:51:56):
There was a game well Halloween nineteen eighty eight between
the Denver Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts. Eric Dickerson had
four touchdowns and one hundred and fifty nine yards rushing
on his way to scoring most of those fifty five
points that the Cults scored.
Speaker 2 (01:52:15):
So that was the score October thirty first, nineteen eighty eight.
Speaker 6 (01:52:19):
It was also the score earlier today in the NFC
Championship Game, as the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Washington Commanders
fifty five to twenty three. Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley
each with three rushing touchdowns. Jalen Hurts also threw a
touchdown for good measure to aj Brown. Will Shipley had
a rushing touchdown.
Speaker 2 (01:52:35):
That's right. Will Shipley plays for the Eagles.
Speaker 6 (01:52:38):
Jalen Hurts four hundred I'm sorry and forty six yards passings,
ae Kwon Barkley one hundred and eighteen on the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:52:45):
Jayden Daniels will not be the first rookie to go
to the Super Bowl after losing that game.
Speaker 6 (01:52:50):
Two hundred and fifty five yards through the air for him,
one touchdown, one pick, forty eight yards on the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:52:55):
Zach Ertz led to.
Speaker 6 (01:52:57):
Commanders in receiving with one hundred and four yards and
eleven catches. SA if you're worthy just went into the
end zone for the Kansas City Chiefs. It's been a
back and forth game thus far between Kansas City and Buffalo.
Fourteen to ten the score. Kansas City in the lead
four to thirteen left in the first half. Patrick Mahomes
(01:53:19):
nine for ten, one hundred and six yards passing and
a touchdown. Kareem Hunt with they scored the first touchdown
of the game, a rushing touchdown. Say if You're worthy
like I just said, dove into the end zone on
the left side of the end zone. There Josh Allen
nine for twelve ninety one yards through the air. James
Cook with his eighteenth touchdown of this season. That's combined
(01:53:39):
regular season and postseason. That ties a Bills franchise record
with one. Josh Allen. There you go, yeah, you knew
that one. Eric Bowles, maybe Josh Allen. Definitely Khalil secure
the lead man for the receiving on the end of Buffalo.
He's got four catches for thirty seven yards again, fourteen
to ten. The score four to thirteen left in the
first half, Buffalo to receive the Kansas City's kickoff Upcoming
(01:54:02):
back to you.
Speaker 3 (01:54:02):
Guys, thank you very much, Martin. It is Fox Sports
Red Zone Radio. And as Martin told you, the Chiefs
cut into the end zone. That flag that was on
the play on the third down call was a face
mask penalty against Buffalo, which put Kansas City up around
the ten yard line, and then Xavier Worthy.
Speaker 2 (01:54:16):
Took care of the rest.
Speaker 3 (01:54:17):
Worthy having something to prove, as he said this week,
it was the Bills who traded that pick to the
Chiefs so Kansas City could trade up for it. Worthy
took that as motivation. He was then drafted, obviously by
the Chiefs, and the Bills ended up taking Keyon Coleman
early in the second round with their selection. But that's
what Xavier Worthy used as motivation for trying to get
(01:54:42):
himself up for this AFC Championship game.
Speaker 2 (01:54:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:54:44):
US players are funny, man. We find we try to
find motivation in anything that we can. So that one's
a little that's a little I think offbeat. But still
if he finds motivation then and it works.
Speaker 2 (01:54:56):
I will say this.
Speaker 3 (01:54:57):
I do remember at the time everybody saying why would
you trade with the Chiefs? Why do you give them
what you want? And now the Buffalo Bills are dealing
with that as we speak. He is carry Rhoads.
Speaker 2 (01:55:08):
I'm dan Byer.
Speaker 3 (01:55:09):
We'll see if the Bills can answer before the end
of the first half. That's next here on Fox Sports Radio.
Buffalo Bills may be in a danger zone right now.
It is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio AFC Championship. Kansas
City on top of Buffalo fourteen to ten. Buffalo just
forced a punt after Kansas City cashed in with a
(01:55:30):
scoring drive.
Speaker 2 (01:55:32):
Kept off by that day. If You're Worthy touchdown.
Speaker 3 (01:55:34):
A punt return put Kansas City in the Bill's territory,
now facing a third and five from about the thirty
yard line. Travis Kelcey just plane dropped one right in
his mittens and dropped at Carrie. But if Kansas City
gets points here, they get the ball at the start
of the second half as well, and the next thing
you know, this could be getting away from the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 2 (01:55:57):
A crucial, crucial third down play right here.
Speaker 4 (01:56:01):
Damn, with so much drama in the LBC, it's kind
of hard being snoop do o doubleg No.
Speaker 2 (01:56:07):
They're in trouble right here.
Speaker 4 (01:56:08):
If they give up a touchdown here, then you know
Kansas City they don't give up. They don't give up
two possession leads. Did he make that catch? If he did,
that's great, it's a player.
Speaker 2 (01:56:19):
There's a lot going on with.
Speaker 3 (01:56:20):
The Patrick Mahomes was just pressured and there's a jump
ball in Xavier Worthy is tied up with the Bills
defender that I can't see who it is, and they're
calling it Chiefs possession down at the one yard line.
There is a flag on the play. Well, I'm curious
to see what the flag is but this is a
heck of a play from Patrick Mahomes in a looting
(01:56:41):
pressure and a holding call on the defense would have
negated anything. And it would have been a holding call
on Tomorrow Hamlin who was trying to guard Travis Kelcey,
so it would have been an automatic first down. I'll
tell you this, this is not the worst thing to
happen to Buffalo. This play by Patrick Mahomes and throw
off his back foot was crazy. Wait a minute, it's
(01:57:04):
a tough one. You see that Dan the jump ball
the possession, but Ty goes to the receiver and it
did appear that Bishop from Buffalo did have possession, but
it wouldn't have mattered. There's a defensive penalty. The reason
I say that it helps is Kansas City can't run
out the clock now. So there's two forty five left
to go, there's a two minute warning. If there's just
(01:57:25):
a holding penalty, it's an automatic first down of the
twenty five yard line and we're under three minutes. Buffalo's
forced to use timeouts and Kansas City can work the
clock at least in this situation. If you're Buffalo, you
can call timeouts. You can get the football back if
you can hold them to a field goal. But the
great defensive play, but maybe an even luckier play that
the ball fell on Xavier Worthy, but the defensive penalty
(01:57:47):
actually could help Buffalo in that situation.
Speaker 4 (01:57:49):
Yeah, Xavier Worthy, you just said, you said he was
motivated to play this game. I haven't seen him make
any play like that all year, So he's playing his
butt off right now.
Speaker 3 (01:57:57):
So now Sean McDermott is challenging the play, which is
the interception play, which doesn't make any sense at all
what he's like.
Speaker 2 (01:58:12):
I don't think it is a tie. I don't know.
I mean, obviously on the ground it is, but the
Buffalo guy had the ball in his hands almost two
hands in the air. It's tough.
Speaker 3 (01:58:23):
There was a replay that showed the ball hit the
ground a little bit, so that could be the incomplete pass.
Here's why I don't like. It's exactly what I just said.
Kansas City is going to get a first down and hold,
yes from the hold, and now they can work the
clock and Buffalo is going to be forced. I understand
you want to keep Kansas City out of the end zone,
but you can do that with three plays from here.
(01:58:46):
You just ended up on the first and goal. They
wished to play dead because of the challenge play. But
you could get a stop here and hold Kansas City
to a field goal and then try to go and score.
This now I think allows Kansas City need to work
the clock and doesn't give Buffalo on opportunity to get
the ball back.
Speaker 2 (01:59:04):
Maybe this has man Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, no, I
see it. Now, they wouldn't have had a chance to.
Speaker 4 (01:59:09):
Get a first down where they are right now, and
instead Kansas City would likely get the ball first and
ten from the twenty five yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:59:18):
There'd be two and a half minutes left. The Bills
have all three of their timeouts. I get it.
Speaker 3 (01:59:21):
Maybe you can stop them and force Carris and Bucker
to kick out thirty two yard field goal. So it's
seventeen to ten and you get the ball back with
a minute to go. But the flip side of that
is the Chiefs can run off more time on the clock,
they can score, and then you don't have enough time
to get into the end zone. The second half will await,
But still two minutes plus left in the AFC Championship
(01:59:44):
Game's first half, as the Chiefs continue to lead the
Buffalo Bills. We know that the Eagles are headed to
the Super Bowl, as they routed the Commanders today fifty
five to twenty three. And I'll tell you what, whoever
wins this game, I'm gonna have a hard time picking.
Considering how good Philadelphia a look today against Washington.
Speaker 2 (02:00:01):
I agree.
Speaker 4 (02:00:02):
I think Philadelphia is the best, the most talented team left.
And so you know we'll see it's gonna be hard
for whoever plays him.
Speaker 3 (02:00:08):
Mark Willards out, so it's Aaron Torres and he from
salam next. They'll carry you the rest of the way
