Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radiodo.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well, that's right, you heard the man that time of week.
My name is Bernie Frattle. We are come to your
line from the Tarac dot com studios here in Las Vegas,
Fox Sports Radio, tirect dot com. We'll help you get there.
Unmatched selection, fast free shipping for your Rhodazard protection and
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyret dot com. The way

(00:25):
tire buying should be absolute jam pack showtnut. We're going
to get to all of it, but I must get
something off my chest as the nonsensical groupthink echo chamber
narrative simply won't go away. The loser's limit crazy talk.
So let me let me just start here, and then

(00:47):
I will morph into a historical perspective. And of course
you already know I'm I'm talking about the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Right.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
It must must be the refs, It must be a conspiracy.
Sure see, here's the deal. When history repeats itself, as
it has four times on our own. Now, just dealing
with Buffalo and the Chiefs, there's always a convergence of
factors leadership, decision making, execution, situational awareness, preparedness, confidence, icy

(01:20):
cold precision. By the way, Paging Buffalo, I will mention
that James Cook's non usage when it mattered most in
the fourth quarter, or a quarterback sneak on fourth down
the whole world knew was coming, or for whatever reason
in these high leverage moments in January and Arrowhead, Sean
McDermott just looks very unsure of himself. By the way,

(01:42):
he's the head coach of the Buffalo Bills. I got
no beef with McDermott. But facts as facts. There are
objective truths, and there are personal feelings. And the truth
is the Bills had plenty of chances to win that game.
So please miss me with the loser's lament about the
refs and the conspiracy theories. But that said, let's dive

(02:04):
into that historical perspective. You are underestimating how truly special
this Chiefs team is. Don't try to marginalize them because
they don't blow everybody up by six touchdowns. They're the
fourth team to reach three Super Bowls in the first
team to make the game after winning back to back
Super Bowls. Got that, the first team to make back
to the game after winning back to back Super Bowls, Now.

(02:27):
As hard as it is to win two titles in
a row, a three peat is a rarity in any
of the major sports. If you go across the NBA,
Major League Baseball, NHL, and even the WNBA. In the
history of all of those leagues, there have been a
total of fourteen instances where a team has won three
straight titles, and it hasn't happened in twenty three years.

(02:48):
The Los Angeles Lakers from two thy to twenty two, well,
they're the last team to complete a three peat. The
Chiefs had gone eight straight games without a turnover, the
longest streak of any in the Super Bowl era, and
of course, until Patrick Mahomes lost the fumble against the
Bills last week, that's the same Mahomes who also enters
the Super Bowl on a nine to zero straight up

(03:10):
and eight to one against the spread playoff front. And
then there's the legend Andy Reid, the winning his coach
in both Kansas City and Philadelphia's franchise histories. By the way,
the Chiefs, Yes, they've won a remarkable twelve one score
games this season, and dating back to last season, seventeen
in a row. Oh. By the way, they're also twenty

(03:32):
three and two straight up in their last twenty five
overall games, with one of those two losses at Denver
in the season's final game when they played the JV
team and the starters were glued to the bench. That's
not a bad body of work. But no, what's the
news cycle? New cycle? We're in a twenty four to
seven news cycle. It's rolling over every day. It's rare

(03:52):
for any story to linger more than twenty four hours. Well,
this one is defeating that. It's the NonStop anger over
the Chief's history of controversial calls. It's now lasting years
and of course just fueled by a handful during their
thirty two to twenty nine went over Buffalo. But it's

(04:13):
just really new. Come down memory lane with me for
just a minute. Okay. Wasn't it a similar story for
the New England Patriots dynasty that the Kansas City Chiefs
succeeded after New England's twenty eighteen NFCY championship went over
the Jaguars, which I'm sure you remember, which also included
a controversial pass interference call among many other flags. Believe

(04:36):
it or not, Forbes magazine, of all magazines, went in
with these damning memes and cartoons accusing the Chiefs, check
that accusing the Patriots of the same Michiganos. The Chiefs
are being preaded with now, but historically work with me historically. Overall,
this is how it goes with Jargernauts. They play, they win,

(04:59):
they win again. They more names than anybody else, and
people just get tired of that. And once enough people
are looking for excuses of signs and officials favoring the dynasty,
all of a sudden you start to look for them
and see them in every play. Maybe refs feel drawn
to give some calls to veteran stars well in basketball,
for instance, but also maybe the best teams just simply

(05:23):
know how to take advantage of the rules. You know,
there's an old saying be in the right place at
the right time, but that sentence doesn't then with the period.
It ends with a comma, be in the right place
at the right time. Comma and do something about it.
See today, Patrick Mahomes, he's basically the new Tom Brady
like Brady used to be. One unnamed NFL coach says

(05:46):
he's a lot like Tom Brady and that he's a
great manipulator. He offers a masterclass quote in leveraging rules
designed to protect quarterbacks, but there was none of that
on Sunday, though the Chiefs received a couple of major
calls that could have gone to Buffalo. Well, there was
a poll amongst fans on Monday, and here's where people stood.

(06:07):
Did Josh Allen gain the first down on that fourth
and one sneak? Eighty percent said yes, the ball touched
the line. I'm in agreeable with that, and if you
are going to take that to your grave, that's the
reason the Bills lost. Knock yourself out. How important were
the controversial calls from Worthy's catch to Alan sneak? Fifty

(06:27):
percent says they were game changing? Okay, you think what
you want to think, but the other fifty percent think
a other factors played a larger role. B the Bills
must share a blame for finding themselves in these positions,
or some even said of the respondents, No, it was

(06:48):
an evenly called game. By the way, this season, the
Eagles were called for the fourth most unnecessary roughness penalties.
So this Super Bowl, can they let it come down
to subjective calls like that? Remember the Eagles allegedly lost
this matchup two years ago. Because of a holding penalty.

(07:09):
Here's the reality, and you hate it. Patrick Maholmes. When
the situation demands greatness, there's nobody better in today's game,
and he's in. You know, as bum Phillips once said,
when it comes to the greatest in history. He may
not be the head of the class, but it don't
take long to cole role. Patrick Mahomes just simply shines

(07:29):
the brightest when the stage is brightest. Maholmes has been nails.
He's right now. He's standing on the brink of NFL history.
If he could make the Chiefs the first team to
ever win three straight Super Bowls. By the way, and
winking a nod to my mentor Dick Shep and Vincent
Lombardi's Packers, they won three straight and sixty six, sixty seven,

(07:53):
and sixty eight, but only the latter two are actually
Super Bowls. Just note that if this comes to pass,
or even if it doesn't, where will Patrick Mahomes rank
among all the players who've been lucky enough to even
just get to one Super Bowl? All Right, I'll tell you,
let's have a little fun. I'm not going to break
down their NFL careers, just how they performed into Super

(08:15):
Bowl and how often they got there and won. So
who's the guy you'd most want to win with the
game on the line, who would crush your names the
hardest if you were giving the chance right now? Number
one is Tom Brady. You know all the Super Bowls
he won seven, go went to ten of them. But
this is what Mahomes is aiming for, knowing full well
he went on two against Brady in the playoffs. Now,
Brady's first Super Bowl only saw him throw for a

(08:38):
buck forty five, of course, in a big time game
winning drive, But even after that, he still averaged better
than three hundred and three yards every time he took
center stage in the biggest game of the year. Six
of Brady's Super Bowl wins or result of game winning
drives after he had been tied or trailing in the
fourth quarter. Let's not forget Joe Montana winking nod to
John Candy. Four super Bowls four to zero, two hundred

(09:01):
and eighty seven yards per game through eleven touchdown passes,
didn't throw a single interception, completed sixty nine percent of
his passes nine point four yards per pass. Oh yeah,
just for fun, Joe Montana even rushed for two touchdowns
at a Super Bowl and had accumulative one twenty seven
point eight passer rating. Now these are twenty Montana's numbers

(09:23):
are like today's numbers. And this is a guy who
took the field four decades ago. Now, half those games
were blowouts and the only needed one game winning drive,
the famous one in nineteen eighty nine against the Bengals.
But Montana he was like PlayStation compared to Atari twenty
six hundred. That's for you, Jason and Mike. Finally, finally,

(09:45):
I want to get this also off my chest. Regarding
Josh Allen. I get it. It's now going to be
pointed out that Allen is oh to four versus Kansas
City in the playoffs. But in those four games, the
Bills averaged twenty eight points, Allen's throwing for almost fourteen
hundred yards, eleven touchdowns, one interception. Defensively, the Bills who've

(10:07):
given out thirty eight, forty two, twenty seven, and thirty
two in those games for an average thirty four points
a game. What you want Josh Allen to play defense to? Okay,
knock yourselves out, Winters, tell jokes, losers say shut up,
and deal. But in the poker game of Super Bowl life,
you better give the Chiefs their due. Don't blame the refs,

(10:30):
blame yourself for being caught up in the group. Think
echo chamber. While you're at it, wash your mouth out
with soul. And by the way, football fans, be sure

Division one basketball head coach recruiter scout Run Scouting Services

(12:29):
National Director very much finger on the pulse on college basketball.
Say hello to Tom Canali.

Speaker 5 (12:34):
Tom.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Thanks so much for jumping in tonight.

Speaker 6 (12:36):
Man, Absolutely, Bernie, how are you my man?

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Good? Real good? And listen. Is it my imagination before
it really dive into the meat and potatoes of what
I want to talk about tonight? Is it jumps my imagination?
Or is there is little buzz about the college basketball
season as we're just six weeks from March Madness select Sunday,

(13:01):
as I've seen in quite some time, it just doesn't
feel like the buzz is there. Am I wrong?

Speaker 6 (13:05):
No, You're not wrong, And I think that's because there's
a lot of reasons for that. But I think the
main thing is is that we don't have a so
called dominant team this year we had in the past.
I think there's so much parody this year that the
buzz is a little bit gone. You know, there's not
the chase and undefeated season or the Yukon that had

(13:26):
the chase for back to back that they accomplish, So
the college basketball buzz is it's gone down a little bit.
I mean, for me that's inside of it every day.
You know, I'm used to what's happening inside the realms
of the games, but from the outside, people that aren't
in every day. I can see where that feeling could
come from, Bernie. And also keep in mind, miss those

(13:49):
aren't that aren't even college basketball fans come to the
forefront once marks his.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Oh yeah no, there's no question. And the brackets and
the betting and have a lot to do with it.
And I guess I need to be fair. At least
people know enough about Duke. I believe Duke is still
currently number one, right with Cooper flag. Is that fair?

Speaker 6 (14:12):
It's either Duke or Auburn.

Speaker 7 (14:13):
I'm okay.

Speaker 6 (14:14):
I mentioned to look at that earlier today. It's one
of the two. It might be Auburn one, Duke two,
or Duke one Auburn two. It's one of those two.
And I've been saying for the last month and a half.
People ask me, like, you know who's going to win
it all? And if you had to pick somebody right now,
as I can't do it because one A and one
B are so close in my mind between Duke and Auburn.
It's literally a coin toss for me on which team
could be better.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
It's very difficult to predict who can win six games
in a row survive in advance, as they say. Talking
with Tom Connolly, basketball and Saturday former Division one basketball coach,
scout scouting director, national recruiter. You made a statement about
a minute and a half ago that I want to
piggyback on there are no great teams in college basketball?

(14:56):
How much of that as a byproduct? Now, we're forever
hearing a about the transfer portal in college football. The
first two years it was open, over five thousand players
jumped into it. How much has the transfer portal and
NIL infiltrated college basketball majorly?

Speaker 6 (15:16):
And there are two separate items there, so let me
handle one at a time. For sure, at the transfer portal,
the transfer portal has done this to college basketball. It
is literally shut down the funnel for high school kids
to get into NCAA Division one and even Division two
basketball because of the transfer portal. The coaches make no

(15:39):
bones about it. Their first choice is to get into
the transfer portal, get the best player that fits their system,
their coaching staff and available, and fill their open ross
response from those kids that left their programs to go
into the portal. So it's like a hamster wheel. So
much of who's leaving, who's coming in, who's at what

(16:01):
school where, and who's transferring where? But What gets left
out is the high school kids these days, and they
have to find another way what I call to get
into the game, to find their way into Division and
or Division two basketball. NIL has turned college basketball into
a free for all. It is really the players are

(16:22):
running the programs. Coaches are coaching, and coaches have their programs.
Don't get me wrong, but the players are running the
programs because in junior college you're constantly flipping over a
roster every single year because you lose guys, you only
have them for one or two years. For a long time,
the four year coaches used to make fun of the
two year guys, going, well, I got guys for four years.

(16:44):
I can implement my stuff. I can put in my
offense and my exes and o's. That's no longer gone.
The NIL has changed that to where the four year
schools now are just a exaggerated junior college program in
my eyes, because they're constantly have to flip rosters over
every year. The players are in control, the coaches aren't

(17:04):
in control.

Speaker 7 (17:06):
I don't like it.

Speaker 6 (17:06):
I think we need a college commissioner to come in Burnie.
In my eyes, that can, you know, put some implications
in there to slow down this transferring, put a cap
on this nil free for all that's going everywhere. I mean,
if they don't, it's completely out of control. Nod, It's
only going to get worse.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
Yeah, And I hold that thought. I'm going to get
into that and what you see for the future. And
you brought up a great point a few weeks back
during the panel at Dom de Marco's about a who's
who of coaches who left the game. Hold that for
the thought. But I want to dive into this because
what's interesting, Tommy is it's evident to me that, even

(17:45):
more so in college basketball, the transfer portal is not
the panacea. Look at Arkansas. They're not in the top
twenty five. They're twelve and six but there or twelve
and eight, but they're one and six in conference. They
picked up two big players out of the transfer portal
last year, John al Davis from Florida Atlantic, who helped
get his team to the Final four, and Jonas Adou

(18:06):
from Tennessee who was an All SEC guy. Neither one
are performing to the level they'd hoped and Arkansas's one
on six in conference. So is it starting to now
catch the attention of coaches and nil collectives that hey,
we got to be careful or spend our money because
this isn't working like we thought it would.

Speaker 6 (18:26):
Yeah, you are onto something there, Bernie, because as a
former coach, the biggest thing that you have when you're
taking transfer players, and let's face it, these coaches are
taking not one, multiple transfer players these days, and now
you have to mold personalities and team chemistry and cohesion

(18:46):
and making sure these guys get along. I don't know
what's going on in the razorback locker room. I know
Cali Pari will get it going as he has everywhere
else he's been. My guess is the two guys aren't
getting along because one wants to have their share.

Speaker 8 (19:02):
Of the shots.

Speaker 6 (19:03):
The other one feels like he is not getting his
share of the shots. Plus you have a whole other
conglomeer players that want to get their hands on the ball.
It'll be interesting. See with Arkansas it is one of
the teams that I have so much, you know, Chuck Mark,
so to speak of how many are going to enter
in the portal? Is Cali party When he did get
that job, it was a little bit later into the

(19:25):
transfer portal market, so to speak to try and build
a team because there was nobody left at Arkansas when
he got there. Now, what's going to happen the next
year's coming in. We'll see. But back to your point.
My thing is what I'm thinking with Arkansas, the team
cohesion and that locker room is not getting along.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
And that stands to reason. If all of a sudden
you just throw a bunch of new guys into a
blender every year and say get along, you don't really
have time to yeah, speak to that as a coach,
which is another byproduct of how difficult this is. It's
not get her a fantasy football team.

Speaker 8 (20:00):
No, it's not.

Speaker 6 (20:01):
And I just literally a few hours ago, had a
conversation with this about this with a friend of mine
about you know, you hear about the family, not basketball
families in general dynamics and when they break apart and
they decide to air their laundry, about the inner turmoils
of a family, and then it spreads, and all of

(20:21):
a sudden it breaks apart a family and brothers and
sisters and nieces and nephews and parents and their children
they don't talk to each other because all this dirty
laundry has been exposed and breaks apart and inner portion,
the chemistry of a family. In a locker room, you're
going to have problems, You're going to have drama, you're

(20:42):
going to have guys that don't get along, you have
guys coming from different walks of life, from different parts
of the country, and you have to keep that inner
turmoil inside the locker room. If it airs itself on
a basketball court in front of thousands of people on television.
With media these days and social media, you're not just
going to get exposed a little bit. You're going to

(21:04):
get blown wide open, and any little thing's going to
get exaggerated into social media these days. So if you
can't keep your inner turmoil inside a locker room, you're
going to be facing some scrutiny. And as soon as
these players feel like they're getting exposed, they're going to
take off and walk.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
And that statement, that insightful statement, perfectly segues in depart
three of our conversation, because a college coach of all sports,
particularly basketball, wears a lot of hats, including surrog and
father and team psychologists and keeping these locker rooms together.
And in the last four years, we've seen Mike Kozhevski

(21:42):
Tony Bennett, Roy Williams, Jim Behon, Cliff l Elis, even
Tara Vanderveer just most recently Jim Laerneger right out of
left field. And I know most of these guys don't
want to really speak on the record, but Tony Bennett,
one of the nicest guys ever, basically said he's uncertain
he can tolerate the changing sport he loves. What do

(22:04):
you think specifically he was alluding to there.

Speaker 6 (22:08):
Very easy that you know, the universe of Virginia is
not going to change their academic standards, nor are they
going to get into a bidding game for NIL to
get kids that come to their school. And I think
Jay writes all the writing on the wall when he
walked a few years ago that Villanova.

Speaker 3 (22:25):
Was going to be in the same aspect.

Speaker 6 (22:27):
The landscape for college basketball recruiting was changing, and it
was going to get into this free agent market that
everybody talks about at NIL and Villanova and somebody like
Virginia is not going to be able to compete with
the big boys and the blue bloods that have these
backings and have NIL money that they can go and
pretty much buy players and to coach Bennett. You know,

(22:50):
his statement was spot on, and I think a lot
of us as coaches and people that have been in
the business for a long time don't like what's happening.
We understand and why it is, but it's happening. It's
not happening for the right reasons. It's now becoming this
amateur slash professional slash whatever you want to call it,

(23:11):
that this college basketball landscape is. And Tony Benner was
just saying, Hey, I don't like where college basketball is going.
I'm not going to be buying players and even said
a couple of times the University of Virginia is not
going to change their academic standards, and that says, right
on the bottom line, we're not going to go buy players.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
Talk with Tommy Connolly, former college basketball coach, scout director,
recruiting analyst. So last March, between March and May, over
a forty five day period, over two thousand college basketball
players entered the transfer portal. That set a new record

(23:51):
all those This is new, so they're going to keep
setting records. Do you believe that number will continue to
grow or is it going to start to level off
at some point? What are your thoughts.

Speaker 6 (24:03):
I think it's going to level off for a couple
of reasons, and I want to touch point on the
number because I think there's the numbers are going to
be what they are, the number of people that go
into the portal. Here's the number I've always wanted to
know about the transfer portal, Bernie, and that's this. How
many guys in any sport, football, basketball, baseball, you name
it put their name into the portal and didn't play

(24:27):
or have no record or stats from the school a
they were at, But because they didn't play or didn't
like the coach, they put their name in the portal
thinking somebody else is going to grab them when they
have no stats or very little playing time at all.
I'd like to know what that number is, and then
what is the number left over the number of guys

(24:47):
that are in the portal that have significant numbers and
stats that it could be looked at from another school.
To touch on that question, I think it's going to
slow down because now we have the extra year of
COVID year is going to be gone, So I think
you're going to slowly see that transfer portal numbers slow
down a little bit. The other thing I keep hearing

(25:09):
is that there are talks about apostible NC DOUBLEA commissioner.
And if so, then I think you're gonna start seeing
implementations of you know, now you hear guys have transferred
twice or three times, they're waiting for the NC DOUBLEA
to give them the approval if they can play or not.
I think we may see something going back to a

(25:30):
limit of how many times you can transfer. And I
wouldn't be surprised if the NC double A, if a
commissioner comes in says say right now, it's the one
time transfer rule, immediately eligible, but maybe after you transfer,
Once you transfer a second time, you sit a year
and you lose an elogie years of eligibility that we
had years ago. I think if that got implemented, then

(25:52):
you really start to see the portal slow down.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
Well that's a great point, and that Jim Harble actually
suggested that when you still in Michigan three years ago,
and there needs to be some guardrails, and why your
premise makes a hell of a lot of sense. I
just have this sneaking suspicion that's going to be a
tough nut to crack, because this player empowerment is here
to stay. You mentioned something guys entering the transfer portal

(26:18):
that don't really have necessarily a resume to speak of.
How about one step further, Tommy, how about guys who
went to the transfer portal who really don't know if
they want to transfer or not. They just figure they
dip their toe in the water and if somebody comes
along with more money, and what the hell, it's the
cya thing I know that's happened in football. Maybe they

(26:40):
pull their name back out if it turns out they're
good where they're at, or they're trying to hedge their
bets or try to leverage their limited time on college
to even more money somewhere else. Do you see that
as part of gamesmanship in the transfer portal in college basketball?

Speaker 6 (26:54):
I do. And here's the thing with my thoughts on this.
And I know there are some coaches out there that
if a guy comes in and says, coach, I don't
think it's working here, I need to make more money
for my family or whatever it is, I'm going to
put my name.

Speaker 8 (27:09):
In the portal.

Speaker 6 (27:10):
And they dip that toe in the portal and they're
not getting what they want, and then they want to
come back to the coach that they just left and say,
you know what, coach, I changed my mind. I think
I want to come back. I know there's coaches out
there to be going. I've already filled your spot. The
second you tell me you're leaving, I'm looking to feel it.

Speaker 9 (27:30):
I'm not waiting to see if you're.

Speaker 6 (27:32):
Going to come back or not. And I think there's
coaches out there will go. I don't want him back.
If he wasn't happy here the first time, what's going
to make him stay another years? He's going to be
looking for the first thing out. And the other thing
that I think is going to make a little bit
of a difference here is the NCAA has implemented, you know,
starting here in twenty five, there's no more national letter

(27:53):
of Intent, So there's no binding agreement that's going to
keep these kids at well. All they're getting when they
go is going to be some sort of a financial
agreement scholarship paper that they're going to put their signature
on that says I agree to these terms of this
kind of money. But there's no national leutter of intent,

(28:17):
so they can walk out the door anytime they want
because there's no binding agreement that says I'm going to
attend school A for the school year. So you might
see guys leaving school, leaving sports a lot earlier than
we have and already going forward because they don't like
what a coach said, how a practice win, or they
got benched, or they were late for practice and they

(28:38):
didn't get to start. They might just go a lot
out of here. So I'm waiting to see how this
plays out.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
One last thing, and what I'd like to do, Tommy,
is when March rolls around and the brackets are out,
get your thoughts. While we were talking, I got a
tweet for one of my listeners, Dan Rivera, who listened
to BYU Kansas State of the schools who've been extremely
active in the transfer portal. You mentioned something just kind

(29:08):
of off the cuff the last time we talked about
you think one of the next things we might see
are players start a season, they look at the landscape,
they get four or five games in, they realize, well,
I'm not in the rotation where I want to be here.
This isn't what I hope. They just jump ship right
there and start preparing for the next team in the portal,
which could even wreak more havoc because again, a lot

(29:30):
of players only care about themselves. Do you anticipate that
being the next I mean, MaTx Luca did it here
at UNLV after they started out three and other quarterback
not trying to call him out, but facts as facts,
you believe that'll be the next wave of player emparlent
powerment vs V. Transfer portal in college basketball.

Speaker 6 (29:49):
I really do, Especially now without Nash letter of intent,
I can see guys jumping ship.

Speaker 8 (29:56):
Real quick now.

Speaker 6 (29:57):
They're going to have a real quick trigger based on
because let's face it, when you're being recruited to a school,
the coach is gonna wind you and dine you and
sell you and why you should come play for their program,
and they're going to buy into everything. They're going to
get there, and they're in their head.

Speaker 9 (30:16):
Going this is all going to come true.

Speaker 6 (30:19):
And as soon as one of those things don't come true,
instead of having an adult conversation with the coach and
sitting down face to face and working it out as
a young adult to another adult, and if they're in
their twenties, then an adult to a coach and say, coach,
you said this, but I'm not getting this back. That

(30:40):
conversation is not going to happen, Bernie. They're just going
to go, I'm out of here and leave because now
it's too easy to leave and jump you and put
your name in the portal. And coaches in players I
don't think are having the conversations that we used to
have in the past about trying to help a kid
and change a kid, and change the personalities and change

(31:01):
some dynamics to make it best for everybody. Nowadays, they
won't even talk. They just jump on their phone and go,
I'm in the portal, I'm leaving, And sometimes coaches don't
even know the kids have gone.

Speaker 10 (31:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
He covered a lot of really good ground and it's
all true, great stuff. Tommy, appreciate it. Like I said,
let's try to connect with March here have you on
as we get to the actual tournament. We'll talk about
some things happening between the lines, but you certainly chronicle
the reality at college basketball in twenty twenty five. And
that last part is the real lament of tom Izzo,

(31:37):
whose greatest strength has been helping kids overcome.

Speaker 6 (31:41):
You know, agree, agree ye.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
Great stuff, Tommy, outstanding and we'll talk soon.

Speaker 6 (31:47):
Pale, all right, take care, you have a good one.

Speaker 2 (31:50):
Thanks. That's Tommy Canally, former college basketball coach, recruiter, National
Recruiter Director SCO Scout Scouting and very much has his
finger on the pulse of college basketball. And this is
the state of the state in college basketball. Coming up,
we're gonna set up the Midnight Hour, which is twenty
minutes away eight seven, seven, nine, nine, six sixty three

(32:11):
sixty nine. We very much look forward to your calls.
It's the callers who make the Midnight Hour eight seven, seven,
nine and nine on Fox. We'll have another smorgasboard of
about four crazy intense topics, and this may be one
of our most raucous. This may be one of our

(32:31):
most raucous midnight hours because I'm looking for some real
disagreement on a couple of the topics. Remember what I
said in my opening monologue about the allegations in the
group think echo chamber and the accusations regarding the chiefs. Well,
the brother of a famous referee weighed in, and this
is real crazy talk. That's just a tip of the iceberg.

(32:54):
As we set up the Midnight Hour coming up, Hi,
Bernie Friderwick kemany lyon from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio,
tyre Act dot Com Studios. Keep it locked or listening
to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
back at the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio, come
to you live from the Taract dot Com studios. Here
we are twelve minutes away from midnight here in Las Vegas.

(33:15):
Midnight literally perhaps figuredly where you're at, but it is
the midnight hour. We look forward to your calls eight seven, seven,
nine nine six six three six nine, eight seven, seven,
nine to nine on Fox. We do it every Friday
night at twelve midnight Pacific time. Got some really good
stuff this week. It's just too good. All right, So

(33:36):
you heard my opening monologue. I don't subscribe to the
loser's lament chiefs haters who think the refs got it
in for him. But when when people get something in
their mind, Okay, for the most part, you're gonna it's
gonna take a pickaxe to get it out of it,

(33:57):
and it's probably still gonna work. When some convinced of something,
they're convinced to something. And yes, there are people who
are convinced the NFL is rigged. By the way a
renowned referee retired. Who now you see him on the
NFL broadcasts, Dean Blandino. Apparently his brother is quote convinced,

(34:20):
convinced that the league is rigged. All right, this is
how bad it's gotten. You're talking about the brother of
a highly respected Fox rules analyst, former NFL senior VP
of officiating, the man from whom current replay system was
designed and developed. He's got a brother who is wearing

(34:40):
the tinfoil hat, who thinks the league is rigged? Now
for their record? Do I know? Hell no, but some
people do. Remember now when it comes to the man
Night hour, the most boring conversations are when everybody agrees
we want this agreement. We may spend out of control tonight.

(35:03):
I guarantee you I'm good in at least one call.
The league wants the Chiefs to win. The league wanted
the Patriots to win. The league likes Brady and belongs
with It's all about the refs, right, Okay, that's topic
number one. Definitely want to hear what you got to
say about that. The coaching carousel is basically complete. The

(35:23):
Saints are going to hire Kellen Moore. Which of these hires,
these six hires, do you think is gonna work, which
is not gonna work? Definitely want to hear from you.
How do you feel about Pete Carroll? How do you
feel about Kellen Moore? How do you feel about Ben Johnson?
How do you feel about Aaron Glenn in New York?

(35:45):
Which just jumps out at you as to Yeah, that
one's gonna work, that one's got no chance. You get
the picture right, which leads us into our third subject.
Because these things never go away, it's not too soon
to start looking ahead and asking yourself which NFL coaches

(36:07):
are on the hot seat for twenty twenty five, for
the season even starts. I'll tell you what. I'll lead
the witness here on this one. I'll tease this one
a little bit. As much as I like him and
respect him, how could it not be Brian Dable? He
won nine games in twenty twenty two, fell to six
and twenty three, and what they won three games in

(36:30):
twenty twenty four or something like that. The Giants now
need a fresh start at quarterback, and I think they
might need a fresh start in the coaching staff. It's
been an anemic performance all the way around. Brian Dables,
respected as a football guy, and deserves a lot of
credit for helping Josh Allen early in his career. If
he's not on the hot seat, I don't know who
the hell is. Well, maybe Shane Steichen of the Indianapolis Colts.

(36:53):
You know, he's got no real future there with Anthony
Richards and you can think he does. They've made no
real strides provement right. There was talk that they would
bail on Shane Steichen after a second year. They didn't.
They did on Antonio. Appears I have to wonder, honestly

(37:14):
if Zach Taylor might be they let Vic Fanny. You know, look,
I'm not going to ask an answer. I want to
hear from you folks, souse. So question number one, do you,
honestly do you think the NFL is rigged? It's incredible
what we're seeing from in pro football talk from Dean

(37:35):
Blambdino's brother. Again, I don't, but he does not Dean
Blandino's brother. The coaching carousel, you see all the new hires,
Which do you like, which don't you like? Which you
think of work? Which don't you think of work? The
third is, let's look ahead, which coach is on the
hot seat already before next year even starts the NFL

(37:56):
and the fourth one, I had to add it. They
made you had to what the hell are we really
doing with Bronnie James Now? They put him on the
floor for fifteen minutes in Washington or checked at in Philadelphia.
Tyrese Maxi rode him like a stick horse, completely overwhelmed,
completely overmatched. It's not funny anymore. Then Bronnie gets to

(38:18):
play again on Thursday night and a forty point Lakers win.
They put him in in mop up time, or whatever
the hell you want to call it. It's like when
you go to the varsity basketball game and you watch
the JV team and then the varsity game starts. They're
up by forty. It's the final day of the year,
and the student manager, who everybody loves, says, put him in.

(38:39):
They put him in and he dribbles it all around
and I was going shoot, shoot, shooting. What the hell?
He launches a twenty eight footer and banks off the
rim and the backboard goes up and hits a rafter
and drops through the bucket. Everybody goes bananas. They Cole
and Bronnie MVP and they went bananas. They're making fun
of him. No, I don't condone that either. Okay, I've
never once met made fun of Brownie. All Off said

(39:02):
is he's not an NBA player. So tell me what
the hell we're doing here, all right? Is the NFL rigged?
Which in the coaching carousel do you like? Which don't
you like? Which you'll work, which won't work? Which NFL
coach is on the hot seat next year already? And
Bronnie James yours your thoughts, Bronnie James, say no more,
Bronnie James eight seven seven nine nine six six three

(39:24):
six nine. The May night hours here, keep it locked.
The Bernie Fradle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
Don't listen, hey, no, Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (39:34):
That's right, you heard the man. Bernie Fraddle Show keeps
rolling right along. My name is Bernie Frowner. We're come
to your linefro the tarat dot com studios here in
Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio. Tyrac dot com will help
you get there. The match selection, fast free shipping, free
road as a protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers
tyraq dot com the way tire buying should be. They're

(39:55):
lining up for it to get to all you be patient,
really want to hear from you. Hey, is the NFL rigged?
We're hiring the new coaching carousel will work? Which one won't?
Who's already on the hot seat for next year? And
Bronnie James, come on, man, are you serious? Yep, you
know it's time for the midnight Hour. Really looking forward
to the callers tonight at this is going to be
a fun one. Well they all are. Let's start with

(40:16):
Mark and maryland Mark, you lead us left tonight. Start
with whichever topic that is most near and dear to
your heart.

Speaker 7 (40:24):
Okay, Bernie, Hi, Bernie, you're the best. You should be
in the Hall of Fame. Okay, no doubt about it.
You've got more topics than I've heard in a lot
of weeks from you, So you might have to walk
me through it. First of all, the NFL is not rigged.
That's absolutely ridiculous. The Kansas City conspiracy is.

Speaker 8 (40:45):
Just ludicrous.

Speaker 7 (40:46):
Okay. Patrick Mahomes is the best young quarterback I've ever
seen in my life. I'm sixty plus years. Eventually he's
going to if it keeps on going, he's going to
take break. He's all right. The well, ahall of the curve,
it's just ridiculous. And everybody's got a jerk brother uh
uh uh in the league.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
I mean, homes.

Speaker 7 (41:13):
Don't get condemned by your family. Everybody's got crazy relative
all right, Bronnie James, I blame all this on lebron
lebron is going to ruin his legacy by pushing this
boy way past. He knew early.

Speaker 11 (41:28):
I think Bryce is going to be the one.

Speaker 7 (41:33):
I think Bryce is going to be the one. But
but Bronnie, he did everything right. I think he just
pushed him. It's sad, it really is. He needs to
have a you know, he needs to have a father
son conversation and set him down. There's no that's no shame.
You know what I mean. Go go go run your
daddy's corporation, Jesus Christ, and you know what.

Speaker 2 (41:53):
Hang on there, Mark, this is really solid stuff. I
just won't say one thing. I was okay when he
wanted to play with this on they had this manufacturer event,
they made the history. Fine, but why are they trying
to continue to sell us that this guy is really
a legitimate NBA prospect. I I've seen enough, have you?

Speaker 7 (42:12):
Of course, we've seen enough. Everybody saw enough. It's it's indisputable.
It's never I blame again. I'm gonna say I blame Lebron.
He knows he's using his pressure. Lebron to me is
the second greatest player ever in basketball. Okay. I remember
him on Sports Illustrated when when when he was called

(42:33):
the chosen the one I said, three, yep, I remember,
you know, I remember that, and he's lived up to it.
And Lebron is the greatest basketball player at forty years
old I've ever seen in my life. And he's probably
the greatest athlete. But being an athlete doesn't mean you
the best player, because he ain't. Michael Jordan, I don't
even want to hear the debate. But that's not the point.

(42:56):
All I'm saying is, you know, it's it's you're not
your daddy. I mean, it's not you don't even need
to play like you that just run the millions, man,
just you know. And I think it's a shame, and
I think it's going to reflect on Lebron, its favoritism,
and it's nepotism at its worst, and it's getting out
of hand. Okay, that boy don't need to play no more.

(43:18):
I think the youngest son has ability Okay, but Bronnie, Okay,
you gave.

Speaker 8 (43:23):
It a good try.

Speaker 7 (43:24):
It's no you know, just sit down now. As far
as the coaching highs the Dallas Cowboys, I'm a Redskins fan.
I refuse to calling the commanders. That's two corporate for me.

Speaker 8 (43:34):
Okay.

Speaker 7 (43:36):
I saw all four Super Bowls. I go back with
Billy Killen and Sonny Jerkson. Now, okay, and eventually that
name's gonna change. Okay, So anyway, that's not navigator there.
The two best coaching highs were the Detroit Lions defensive
and offensive coordinator. Those guys are solid. The worst one

(43:59):
was the bron Gotten Heimer thing. Wasn't nobody looking for
Brian shotting Heimer? He didn't get a call nowhere. Jerry's
gonna run that into the ground. Okay, he's already doing it.
And I'm happy to say that because I'm a Redskin fan,
so you know, I'm I'm I'm happy to heap all
the turmoil on the Cowboys. Okay, I forgot your other topic.

Speaker 3 (44:18):
What was you real?

Speaker 2 (44:19):
Quickly? Who's on the hot seat for twenty twenty five
of the NFL?

Speaker 7 (44:26):
Jesus, we'll run through the candidates again.

Speaker 2 (44:28):
Well, I just threw a couple out there. I think
it's gotta be Brian Davil Shane Steiking. Right, that's all
those are my two.

Speaker 7 (44:33):
Quickies love Dabel. It's not Dabel's fault. Let me tell
you something. I'm glad you.

Speaker 8 (44:38):
I'm glad you refreshed my memory.

Speaker 7 (44:40):
Let me tell you something. I'm i'm a, I'm a,
i'm a. I'm gonna come a Redskins fan of reviews.
They commanders again, and I'm gonna.

Speaker 8 (44:47):
Stop food with that.

Speaker 7 (44:48):
Okay. Ron Rivera was brought in here to bring in
order and structure.

Speaker 3 (44:53):
Okay.

Speaker 7 (44:56):
Most quarterbacks are married to their most coaches. I'm married
to their quarterbacks.

Speaker 8 (45:02):
When when?

Speaker 7 (45:02):
When when the Rob Rivera's last role was the guy
from Philadelphia?

Speaker 8 (45:09):
What's his name?

Speaker 7 (45:09):
Help me out, Bernie, they got quarterback?

Speaker 2 (45:13):
Huh? Ron Rivera's quarterback?

Speaker 7 (45:15):
Yeah yeah, yeah, no, no, no, he signed the guy
from Philadelphia. He was Philadelphia's second. I mean he was
Kansasity No, not Poles Carthon Wentz.

Speaker 2 (45:26):
Oh yes, yes, yes, Now when that.

Speaker 7 (45:28):
Didn't work out, that's sunky Okay, Brian Dabell, I bring
that up because Daniel Jones did not work out. Brian
Dabele is a great coach.

Speaker 2 (45:38):
Here's what's interesting, and you're so outstanding. Mark. I wish
I could give you more time, but I really got
to get to the rest of the folks. And by
the way, top credit to you on Jimmy Carter's brother
Billy the even Billy beer. Uh, here's the problem, Daniel
Jones actually got to the playoffs and when a playoff game,
but they've been regressing every year. So anyway, Uh, just
really strong stuff. Appreciate you Mark a lot. Don't be

(45:59):
a strange Paul in North Carolina. You're up next.

Speaker 12 (46:04):
Hey, good evening, Bernie. Hey, let me be the first
to wish you happy February. Said man, let me start
with your topics. First of all, is the NFL rigged?

Speaker 8 (46:12):
Bernie?

Speaker 12 (46:13):
You're talking to a huge Buffalo Bills fan. I eat
seed and breath Buffalo Hill football, and I'm ready to
tell you hell no, the league is not rigged. Busfalo
did not play well enough, as you highlighted to win
the game. If you played down to where you let
the officials decide a game, you didn't play well enough
to win. The officials making calls that didn't go our way. Sure,

(46:33):
but you know what, Bernie, were probably fifteen more mysed
or failed plays and poor coaching decisions that Buffalo made
to lost the game, not the referees. And until you
have your two biggest markets, then New York Giants and
the New York Jets absolutely being terrible, and the Dallas
Cowboys being terrible when the San Francisco forty nine ers injured,

(46:54):
of course, but until those guys start making the playoffs
every year, you can't say the league is rigged.

Speaker 3 (47:00):
The league was rigged.

Speaker 12 (47:01):
That's those guys aren't going to suck.

Speaker 2 (47:03):
Well, I said it better myself, but you are aware
of what's blowing in the wind out there when it's
being written about by Mike Florio and Dean Billandino's brother
and a great call by Mark. Everybody's got a goofyr brother.
It's out there. I had to address it, but you're
starting on anything else.

Speaker 12 (47:19):
And again, yeah, but again, I'm a digger, bills him,
and you can't say the league is rigged.

Speaker 3 (47:23):
To me.

Speaker 12 (47:23):
The best coaching higher in the cycle was Pete Carroll,
who knows how long he's going to be there, but
he's just going to come in and study the ship.
The raiders are all over the place, and I think
that's more than anything. Until you get stability, until you
get somebody in there with some common sense, you're not
going to be successful. So I think he's going to
come in study the waters, you know, be a great

(47:45):
bridge candidate for the coach is on the hot seat.
But got me get back to my Buffalo Bills. I
think he's got to be Sean McDermott.

Speaker 2 (47:51):
He might be, he might be.

Speaker 12 (47:53):
Listen, he's done a hell of a job and from
what he took over to where the Bills are now
absolutely fantastic. But eventually, Bernie, you've got to have somebody
in there that's going to take you to the next step.
And it's kind of the Marty Schottenheimer. You know, you
keep winning, you keep winning, you keep winning, but you're
not getting to the to the to the top. And
there's every time, every game, there's always some decisions that

(48:14):
you can circle with like Toron mcgermott, what the hell
were you doing? You alluded to James Cook not touching
the ball. Yeah, butage six areas of carriage and.

Speaker 2 (48:21):
They got what the hell happened? What was that about? Right?

Speaker 12 (48:24):
And something that very few people are talking about Bernie.
Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs each scored four
touchdowns to take the one field goal, and Buffalo lost
by three. Why because you started chasing points early, you
took up I.

Speaker 2 (48:35):
Was going to talk about that in my opening mindlogue.
Why the hell are you going for two twice in failing?
You're right, all excellent.

Speaker 12 (48:41):
Points, So so I think again, Bernie, Sean mcdermot's on
the hell of a job. So you know, if he
doesn't win a Super Bowl will always be on air.
Quotes of Bill's legend quickly.

Speaker 2 (48:52):
Paul, just a few seconds. Do you carry a weigh
it on? Brownie?

Speaker 12 (48:55):
James, Bernie, I've got nothing more to add. It's it's
you know, it's it is what it is, and I
don't think it's anything.

Speaker 3 (49:02):
Wasn't that?

Speaker 2 (49:03):
Thanks a lot, Paul, appreciate you. Jim in Massachusetts, how
are you doing, buddy? What's going on tonight?

Speaker 8 (49:09):
And what's going on? Bernie?

Speaker 9 (49:11):
Yes, it is rigg Let's face facts. There's so much
money involved with gambling and everything in the NFL's court
is rigged. Just look back at the tuck rule with Brady.
If that wasn't the Raiders, any other team that was
a fumble, all right. They missed a call down the
super Dome in the playoffs on the corner cliff pass interfearence.

(49:32):
They didn't throw a flag, even the immaculate conception. They
didn't have replayback then, but the rule was it hit
the guy, you're not supposed to be able to.

Speaker 8 (49:40):
Get it and go in. They did.

Speaker 9 (49:42):
So, you know, when there's so much money involved and
all this type of stuff, of course there's the issues
going on there.

Speaker 2 (49:50):
You know. It's ironically, of all the people that I
thought and that might imply that it is rigg you
would have been the last one. But I was back
to your opinion.

Speaker 9 (50:01):
Respect I rep for thirty years, not on that level.
But you cannot discount egos and people in positions and
power and everything. It should be decided by the players.
But you know, people human, You get under somebody's skin
even though they're out there and strike. Sure it's over.

(50:21):
You know, you can't control stuff like that. But then
then all the stuff behind the scenes and everything, it's
just it's gotten too out of here, you know.

Speaker 2 (50:31):
All right, Well, you were part of the your your
your team, the New England page that you're part of
the coaching carousel this year. Is Mike Vrabel on the
top of your list?

Speaker 9 (50:41):
Is one of these riper Let's start with I'm not
a New England Patriots fan. My team's New York Giants.

Speaker 2 (50:47):
Okay, so let's get I could watch.

Speaker 9 (50:49):
A black and white TV all right.

Speaker 2 (50:51):
Is Brian Dable on the hot seat?

Speaker 7 (50:54):
Of course?

Speaker 2 (50:56):
And Mark brought up a great point. He might not
be his faully, don't have a quarterback when he's been regressing.
Go ahead, you got the you got the floor.

Speaker 9 (51:02):
Yeah, No, he's gone. You know, you know everything is
about is about winning. You know, you can have a
guy there and in trouble all the time, got stuff
going on as long as you're winning. Knowing kids all
about winning. So yeah, he's gone. I hope they get
secure and try to get back on.

Speaker 3 (51:22):
The right track.

Speaker 9 (51:23):
I think they need a new general manager or anything.
I think the guy that's going to do the best
is Pete Carroll because he's a class stack, he's character.

Speaker 3 (51:31):
And you remember, yeah, you gotta remember his career.

Speaker 7 (51:34):
He was run out of New England.

Speaker 9 (51:36):
Oh man, when he coached to England.

Speaker 2 (51:38):
I remember that very well.

Speaker 9 (51:40):
Oh it was brutal. You think the guy in New
York's on the fire.

Speaker 3 (51:43):
You should have seen that.

Speaker 2 (51:45):
Listen. He was hard at USC. The headlines were not grady.
He was their fourth choice at USC. And uh, yeah,
so I'm gonna agreement with you, He'll say real quickly, Jim.
Last week, I can't let you go without talking about Brownie.

Speaker 9 (52:00):
You know what, I feel so bad for the kid.
I don't know what he's doing. He's being mocked. I
was never a Lebron fan. I mean, he's got great talent,
but he can't keep his mouth shut. You know, you
never heard Bird or a team Elijah Wan or all
these Dominique, all these great players run out of his mouth.

(52:21):
The only one that he Bron reminds me of his
lamp beer. Just can't keep your mouth shut, just play.
And you know what, he doesn't have talent. Everybody knows
and everybody and the two people that know it the
most is Lebron and Bronni And they're just making a
joke out of you know what. And I don't think
the other players like it either.

Speaker 2 (52:39):
You start, I'm starting to wonder, Thanks, Jim. As always, Look,
it was fine an opening night when they wanted to
get Bronnie on the floor and create history, but there
feels like they're force feeding a false Kyle Jean, Butch,
Max Poppy, Butch and Jeremy, this is awesome. Kyle Jean, Butch,
Max Poppy. We are all up next in that order.

(53:01):
Don't go nowhere, looking forward to hearing from you. The

Speaker 2 (53:26):
We're back on the Bernie Frattle Show. The Midnight Hour
is off and running eight seven seven nine nine six
six three six nine eight seven seven ninety nine one Fox.
Kyle in Vegas joins Carle. Thanks for your patients, trying
to get to everybody tonight. How you doing, Buddy man?

Speaker 10 (53:43):
Celebrating my birthday, weekend birthdays and.

Speaker 2 (53:46):
Birthday Sunday, Happy Birthday.

Speaker 10 (53:49):
Appreciate that, I appreciate that. Let's start off with Bernie James. Okay,
that's a man in the NBA right now by the
name of Michaeljeffrey Jordan who had two sons that both
failed at basketball. Okay, Marcus Williams, and I'm sorry Marcus

(54:10):
Jordan and his brother Jeffrey, who are absolutely horrible. They're good,
but they're good college basketball players, average minimal. But you
have Bronnie James. Out of twenty three thousand rookie NBA
players that ever grace that court, he is six point
three percent. He's in the bottom of the bottom of

(54:34):
the bottom.

Speaker 8 (54:34):
Of the barrel. Okay, he runs.

Speaker 10 (54:37):
Twenty by twenty two, nine hundred and ninety seven of
all time, Brookies. That's horrible, lebron talk to you boy
pulling out the game. Do something different, have him do
something different. It's not going to be the same for
Bryce either. I'm sorry. The hype is way too much.

(54:57):
They're over hyping them. They're playing it out there. You
have other kids with the last name Julia who have
no father that's ever played the NBA that are better
than this young nun.

Speaker 2 (55:08):
You're not wrong, You're not wrong. I mean, it's yeah,
let's get to this NFL rig thing.

Speaker 10 (55:14):
Kyle, Now, I'm going with that.

Speaker 3 (55:17):
Next, I'm going with that next.

Speaker 10 (55:19):
I think it's fifty to fifty. People got to remember
referees have scouting reports on players too. They do their
job just like every other player in those leagues, whether
it's football, basketball, or whatever it may be. In the
chief case, yeah, they watch out for more defensive plays.
They might look at Mahomes as the poster boy, the

(55:40):
poster child of the face of the league, and they're
gonna do whatever they can to protect him. Now, at
the same token, players have always said, and I play,
you know, college ball myself, players have always said, in
order to not let the rest dictate the outcome of
the game, we have to be up by so much
much so instead of worrying and concentrating about what they're doing,

(56:04):
let's focus on our game and play our game now.
Buffalo should have realized the same mistakes that they made.
They're probably kicking themselves in the bucks right now, because
had the Ravens converted their two two point conversions that
they failed on, they would have beat Buffalo. So hands down,
you have to history repeated itself and you did the

(56:26):
same thing. Don't let the referees dictate the outcome of
the game.

Speaker 2 (56:31):
Four times now, Kyle, four times now, Buffalo is gone in.

Speaker 10 (56:36):
They're gonna stack up on the fourth and ones. They're
gonna they're gonna cover the A gaps, are gonna cover
those gaps that Josh Allen likes to get to. And
you went for three different times and failed and even
let the refs fail you on one, regardless of what
the case may have been. Now I got one better
for you. The best hire you know is the Chicago Bears,

(56:57):
who hands down, that's the best higher where I'm optimistic.
I'm not overly optimistic. We're gonna be fine, I believe.
Give him a year, you know, a good, a good,
solid year. He's gonna get ot as in, he's gonna
work and develop Caleb Williams. I'm happy to see that.

Speaker 8 (57:17):
The weirdest hire.

Speaker 10 (57:18):
And you know I got to bring this up. How
did Matt Eberflus get another job?

Speaker 3 (57:25):
So?

Speaker 10 (57:26):
I mean Dallas was gonna have four time outs this year?

Speaker 2 (57:29):
Yeah? They were good. That's your calling card every week. Look,
I was mainly sticking with head coaches. But you're not wrong.
And you know why this happens because people have a
tendency to hire who they know. But but the point
that I was making, I'm.

Speaker 10 (57:45):
Who was who was Shottenheimer. Nobody was lining up for
this doom. Nobody was looking for him.

Speaker 7 (57:51):
Nobody was like.

Speaker 10 (57:52):
Oh my gosh, we gotta go get Shotenheimer first. Let's
go get him number one overall, Jerry, what are you doing?
You're running your organization into the ground instead of America's team.
It's going to be America's dumpster fire here in a minute,
you know. And every time that I think of them now,
I just remember too going to the middle of a
field and doing that Jesus Christ posed, And just that's

(58:17):
how bad your team is right now. You're letting people
come into your home, your don't and basically disrespect your organization,
whether it be your own players, whether it be you yourself,
whether it be your kids not telling you, hey, Dad,
you probably need to step aside. Let us run this,
let us get this thing back into the right course,
because what you're doing is going to cost us for

(58:41):
not just these next three four seasons, this might hurt
us indefinitely. Look at Jacksonville, jaguarst not wrong.

Speaker 2 (58:52):
You're gonna win eight games, all right, Paal. Always appreciate you, man.
I got so many calls and I always enjoy your stuff. Kyle, Thanks,
You're not wrong. No way do offend. Brian Schottenheimer, Okay,
he was in the building. I no longer believe Jerry
carries as much if he went to the super Bowl.
He just wants to keep printing money. And make no mistake,
they are great stuff. Kyle Gene in Memphis joins us.

(59:15):
Good evening, Geene, how are you doing good will? Bud?

Speaker 8 (59:19):
All right, Yeah, I just want to figure the league
is I think the league agreed?

Speaker 2 (59:26):
Man, Okay, get no problem. Give me your case why
I don't agree, but I want to hear what you
got to say.

Speaker 8 (59:32):
Uh, look at those calls that the reflaid on pet
On Nick Josh last week. He got that first down
when they took the execuity, when they took it from
when they took it from him, they stopped the momental. Man,
you can go back to the tuck rule. Uh, it's

(59:52):
so many they even go back to the to the
game with the pachers in the Seahawks. There's no way
in the world that Russell Stow that football. Marshawn Forts
got that football. No question about it. But that's a
coaching decision. But I still think that's I don't know,
being the lights, being the lights in New Orleans going
out all that kind of jazz.

Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
Uh, well, it's certainly have been. I got there's certainly
been some eyebrow raising events in the past, you know,
fifty years in the NFL. But the team that they're
playing has to be good enough to take advantage of it, right,
Do you have anything on Ronnie James tonight, Geene?

Speaker 8 (01:00:29):
Yeah, you asking me just being just been a basketball
fan of just a fan of sports period, and that
team to look at this kid and say he's ready,
he's nowhere, and they're ready. He shouldn't be out there
on the on the on the floor. Matter of fact,
it's a disrespect to the NBA and the players before

(01:00:51):
and the players now, the guys that are really busting
that bus trying to make it. Here's his dad, one
of the one of the greatest players ever put it down.
We know Michael's have been gang Colby, but uh.

Speaker 7 (01:01:02):
He should not be he should not be playing, should
be in he should be in a G league.

Speaker 8 (01:01:05):
So where kind of get his gang work? And I'm
just being honest, Gene.

Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
I appreciate your honesty and candor. All good stuff tonight.
Thanks so much for checking in. All right, I believe
you got a first year. Butch joins us from Germany? Butch,
what part of Germany are you in right now?

Speaker 3 (01:01:24):
In the south?

Speaker 8 (01:01:26):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (01:01:28):
Southwest? Kaiser slaughtered?

Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
Okay, what about eight thirty in the morning? There? Does
that sound about right?

Speaker 13 (01:01:33):
It is?

Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
Uh ninety? All right? So what do you got for
us tonight? Whereould you like to start?

Speaker 3 (01:01:40):
Okay? So you have a lot of great subjects, but
I would like to not go really off topic of
take up too much of your time, But go right ahead.

Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
Did your you got the floor? Take go where you
want to go.

Speaker 3 (01:01:54):
Why is Ricky Waters not in the Hall of Fame?

Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
Well, I guess you didn't get enough votes. I I
have to really, I was always a huge drinking Waters fan.
I was just thinking about that at the other day.
Thirty years ago, when they womped the Chargers forty nine
to twenty seven, Ricky Wobbas was a one man highlight
film that day.

Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
I know I'm a huge Niners fan, and I know
he played for the Niners for very long, but I
mean he's got he's got over ten thousand yards and
only ten years he's got like seventy something touched. Anyway,
the next thing was again off topic, is Joe Montana,
Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Roger Stalbach, bess Ever, not sure

(01:02:35):
what order to put them in.

Speaker 2 (01:02:38):
Well, they're clearly in the biggest games, on the biggest stages.
They shine the brightest. You can't that's undeniable.

Speaker 3 (01:02:44):
Yeah, and then go back to what you're talking about.
The NFL is not rigged.

Speaker 8 (01:02:48):
That's that's absolutely ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (01:02:53):
But I think I think it's use the same words
as a couple of dollars ago, No way, it's that'd
be that'd be too difficult. I do think though, because
of all the sports talk about it that well, they
kind of do it all the time anyway. But you know,

(01:03:14):
the ref the referee is going to hold their flags
in the Super Bowl, and I like that.

Speaker 2 (01:03:20):
You know, let them play, Yeah, let them play as.

Speaker 3 (01:03:22):
Long as it's not a you know, a guy smashing
his head and do another guy's head for concussion. Got
to let the holding go. Maybe you know, there'll be
some defensive holding flags as usual. But I mean, with
all this thing about the NFL being rigged. It's I

(01:03:43):
think it's gonna be a great game, and then uh,
Brownie sucks.

Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Oh god, that's left to be said. I I love
that you waited on all four. Got a few things
in there top to your own things. But for checking in,
don't need to be sure with you. I just want
to make sure I get to everybody. When you said,
Bernie sex, that kind of says it all. It's by
the way, we're kind of this is the one thing
where unanimous on tonight. No one's attacking Brownie personally. But
this whole ordeal just is a defense to people's sensibilities.

(01:04:13):
Get really good callers, really insightful. Max, North Carolina, you
are at next. Where would you like to start?

Speaker 14 (01:04:21):
I Bernie Frano, second time caller, short time listener. I
love this show, Bernie, Thank you do? I think the
Napels rigged like a couple of callers before fifty to fifty,
and I will put evidence of how I think it's rigged.

(01:04:43):
Look at the in the Eagle Commander's game last week. Okay,
there was when Frankie Lubu, the linebacker jumped over the
over the thing. Oh yeah, said Okay, if Washington keep
does that we're going to give them the Eagles a touchdown?

Speaker 7 (01:05:00):
How do that?

Speaker 2 (01:05:00):
Threw me for a loop, But I was completely unaware,
Yeah that the referees, could we award somebody at touchdown?
Continue on?

Speaker 14 (01:05:08):
Yeah, the other one is okay from what I've heard,
I don't know how true it is. But look at
the Super Bowl logos when the Chiefs and Eagles face
the first time, do you see a lot of green,
a little bit of red? And the Chiefs won? And
then last year, which was kind of weird. I don't
understand that one. You saw a purple and red, which

(01:05:29):
is like okay, so it's Tony Ravens and Niners. No,
they edfol flipped the script, which is like okay. And
now this year it was a lot of red, a
little bit of green. So do I think Eagles could win?
Yet on top of all that, there's more and the
Eagles commander's game.

Speaker 3 (01:05:49):
I don't know who it was.

Speaker 14 (01:05:50):
It was an Eagle defendsimen poke, the tyler beyonda the
dinner and the eye rest did nothing about it, which was.

Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
Like a kid Jaden, Yeah, go ahead, yeah, but it's
like a right kid out of Georgia. That was so weird.

Speaker 8 (01:06:07):
I didn't know Stan.

Speaker 14 (01:06:07):
And then the other one when Marshall Lottimore was covering
a J.

Speaker 8 (01:06:12):
Brown.

Speaker 14 (01:06:14):
Lottimore didn't do anything.

Speaker 8 (01:06:16):
A J.

Speaker 14 (01:06:16):
Brown kind of I think was either trash stock or something,
and like Ladvog got the penalty. So that's a two
personal flagrant fouls that too gone to the Eagles. But
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:06:30):
Of course those are I saw it, and you maybe right,
those are judgment calls. I thank you for checking in tonight, Max,
good stuff, and look, I'm amazed and I'm enjoying this.
We are getting disagreement. People know where I stand, but
I like to get people's thoughts. And the good thing
about it is every caller, whether it's Max or Jane

(01:06:54):
or I forget who else, thought it was rigged Jim,
and they brought specific receipts so they feel the way
they feel based on what their rymes told them on
the field. Because I covered the Lions for ten years
and I just can't believe it. Maybe I don't want
to believe it. It's just too hard for me to
believe it. But listen, the Midnight Hour is designed to

(01:07:16):
have a forum, an amalgam of diverse thoughts and we're
getting that tonight. I'm loving every minute of it. Poppy,
Carl and Ed in Las Vegas. You are up next,
Uncle anywhere. The Midnight Hour continues. I'm Bernie Frattle, were
Comedy lying from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, tire Act
dot Com studios. Keep it locked and listening to the
Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. We're back on

(01:07:39):
the Bernie Frattle Show, Kemedy live from the Tarac dot
Com studios here Fox Sports Radio. The Midnight Hour and
the Final Stretch. Callers have been outstanding tonight. Lots of
meat on the bones, some healthy disagreements. Poppy in San
Diego joints this next? Where do you want to start? Poppy?

Speaker 5 (01:07:58):
Hey, well, the first thing's on my mind. I wanted
to talk about the NFL rig. Of course, I believe
it's ragged. You know, I had the build last week.
There were some tricky calls, you know, when one of
the reps, you know, when it went over the fourth
and money jumped over. One of the rep said, yeah, it's.

Speaker 3 (01:08:16):
Good, yes, yes, yes.

Speaker 5 (01:08:21):
I was like in the Drug Parddy Show, right like
Jepardy like while like to Menda Cars. Then I say, yeah,
I remember.

Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
That happened Poppy back in twenty twelve when they had
the replacement reps on the Seattle touchdown on the end zone.
One said it was a touchdown. One said, no, right,
it was embarrassing. That's a good pick. You picked that out, Poppy.
Good once one signal yes, the other signal though, continue on.

Speaker 5 (01:08:47):
Yeah, So I do believe that, I mean that it's rigged.
And just like just for that reason, talking about rig
my prediction, I believe the Kansas City chief will win
three in a row. And you know, I do the
I that count the city chiefs.

Speaker 10 (01:09:01):
But I think a big.

Speaker 5 (01:09:02):
Great Tom Brady deserves the Patriots deserve to win three
in the row. Like he's the greatest of all time
in my opinion. So I think the you know, Tom
Brady should have got three in the row in my opinion.

Speaker 2 (01:09:13):
You know, all right, let's talk about Bronnie James next.
That's a hot topic tonight. What are your thoughts on, Brownie?

Speaker 5 (01:09:18):
Yeah, I love Barnnie James, and U you know, Barnnie
James is just so I'm in the summer League in
your hometown in Las Vegas, and it was grad he
was focused. I loved how face his dad wasn't there
and he was focused on the thing. First game wasn't
that good?

Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
A second game was getting the Summer League of a
real NBA game.

Speaker 5 (01:09:36):
Con No, I know, I know, but what I'm trying
to get this I'm trying to give. And then he
went down to the D League. He started getting competitive.
He got humiliated, Molly wopped. You know how you said,
Charlie's market, but you know what, he redeemed himself and
he shot a point, but it was humiliated. Was like
you said, I agree with you, Bernie, Lebron and humiliating

(01:09:57):
and them saying MVP, MVP. I'm like, that's just humiliating.

Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
Yeah, that was That was not cool. They're making fun
of him, don't you a great poppy?

Speaker 5 (01:10:06):
Yeah, they were making fun of them.

Speaker 7 (01:10:08):
I agreed.

Speaker 5 (01:10:08):
They were making fun of them. And if I see
Lebron James in the summering in your hometown, I will
make fun of them and I will eat them alive.
And you hear about that, Bernie. But the one I
wanted to talk to you about Tip the bed for last.

Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
Something quickly, bud real quickly, in my opinion.

Speaker 5 (01:10:23):
The best coach car was the course from the Jaguars.
Lamb He said, Doll.

Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
That's Liam Cohen. Thanks, Poppy, appreciate you, Bud. That's Liam Cohen,
the former offensive coordinator at Tampa. He may end up
being good with very creative. Thanks Poppy. Uh Ed in
Las Vegas, Jones just good eating.

Speaker 6 (01:10:45):
Edy agreed and verning my whole thing about the NFL
being brigged. Okay, the NFL is so big, The Super
Bowl is so big. It's an almost a national holiday.
It's like the second biggest gathering of people. Even people
don't like football watching. It doesn't matter if the Tennessee
Titans are playing the Arizona Cardinals. They're still going to

(01:11:06):
make a ton of money. Does forget to me when
people say it's rigged?

Speaker 2 (01:11:11):
Yeah, all right, fair enough. What about Bronnie James? What
are your thoughts on that?

Speaker 6 (01:11:15):
I'm Brownie, Yeah, I feel bad for what I don't
feel bad for him and got a ton of money. Yeah,
we all know what to do is with James. It's
not like Griffy Junior and Fred Griffy. You know what
I'm saying, right?

Speaker 3 (01:11:29):
Yeah at all?

Speaker 6 (01:11:32):
Yeah, go ahead, Well that's why I said, but that's
why I'm saying about the super Bowl, though, you go
to the supermarket tomorrow our incommunist So what they got
Dorigo's on? So super Bowl? Get this, it's a national holiday.
They don't they don't care who's in there Arizona, Tennessee.
They're making their money. So anybody's trying to say they're
staging like the WWE is ridiculous. Just look at the facts.

Speaker 2 (01:11:56):
All right, buddy, appreciate it. Man, anything real quickly on
the coaching care So all right, no problem, no problem
at all. Greg and Michigan joins us.

Speaker 15 (01:12:05):
Next, Hi, Greg, how you doing burn up to your
Northern Michigan University?

Speaker 2 (01:12:11):
Oh you're a yupper.

Speaker 15 (01:12:12):
You're a uper one hour away from his old Mariucci's hometown.

Speaker 2 (01:12:16):
Of Iron Mountain. That's right, is o Mariucci. Kevin Tappani
former picture for the Minutes Little Twins. Oh what's the
weather up there tonight in the Uper?

Speaker 8 (01:12:25):
Well it's not.

Speaker 16 (01:12:25):
Bad about twenty five degrees.

Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
Oh hell, that's bad ice fishing. That's no good. You're
probably hot. In't backed by your pool?

Speaker 3 (01:12:32):
It's nice.

Speaker 16 (01:12:33):
Last couple of ages worth thirties and before that we
were blows.

Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
They're over a fricking heat wave. All right, let's get
to the topics. So I got another caller after you. So, uh,
let's start with is the NFL rigged or not?

Speaker 16 (01:12:46):
Well, I'll tell you what if you want to. I
don't think it is.

Speaker 15 (01:12:49):
But the hardest part about refereeing is the spotting of
the ball. Now that that's where it could be rigged
when nobody knows nothing about it.

Speaker 16 (01:12:57):
That ends here to put here.

Speaker 15 (01:12:58):
It's an impossible thing to do is spot the football.

Speaker 3 (01:13:02):
And you're got a different angle.

Speaker 2 (01:13:03):
That's true, that's true. I'm going to talk about that
Saturday night. NFL claims even new technology wouldn't be able
to spot it correctly. Let's jump to Brownie James. Your
thoughts on him.

Speaker 16 (01:13:15):
Well, you know that's why I like college football. You
got to stick around in college.

Speaker 15 (01:13:20):
And if these guys, Brian's a good example, they leave early,
not or in overland, NBA, G League overseas.

Speaker 16 (01:13:29):
Stick around to college for four years, get a great education,
learn how.

Speaker 15 (01:13:32):
To play the game, teamwork, disciployment, and then get to.

Speaker 16 (01:13:35):
Your next step. Everybody's leaving too early in.

Speaker 15 (01:13:37):
The NBA, and that's why ANBA is not very good.
You got all these four people coming in, you don't
know who they are. For college football, you know people
they hang around for four years. You know these players.

Speaker 2 (01:13:47):
I appreciate you man, keep it, keep it, hold it
down there at greg and Northern Michigan one of the
very interesting places on the planet. Brocking out Berta, Canada.
Thanks for your pitches tonight. I brought your up next.

Speaker 17 (01:14:00):
Hey Bernie, how's it going Mervo?

Speaker 2 (01:14:01):
Good? Thank you sir.

Speaker 17 (01:14:04):
You know that the Kansas City Chiefs being rigged, that's ridiculous.
It's it's not it's not rigged. The thing is, it's,
you know again with the dynasty stuff. You know, we
all want to see greatness and I think, you know,
the greatest talk to Mahomes is like, you know, it
could be a fifty to fifty, but it's it's really.

Speaker 6 (01:14:23):
Hard to say.

Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
All right, let's talk about Brownie James. You have to
have an opinion on Brownie James.

Speaker 17 (01:14:29):
Yeah, I see, here's here's my thing. I think he
needs to grow into a player. I think I think
it was cool to see him and Lebron.

Speaker 12 (01:14:38):
On Opening Night.

Speaker 10 (01:14:38):
That was special.

Speaker 8 (01:14:40):
But outside of that, it's, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:14:43):
It's bugging me. Why the hell they're trying to force
feed is that this guy is really an NBA player.
I mean, they wanted to manufacture history. I got it.

Speaker 17 (01:14:51):
Continue on, Yeah, yeah, I don't Yeah no, I mean,
at the end of the day, there's no way he's actually,
like at this point time, an NBA player, And I
think Lebron's pushing him too. Ho Now, I think I
don't think Lebron. Now I've heard Lebron say on the
Kelsey Podcast that you know, he Bronnie could be anything.
But you know, at the end of the day, Lebron's
a four time champion, he's a four time MVP, He's

(01:15:13):
going to ten NBA finals. But the thing is he's
Bronni's just not ready yet. If he you know, I
think at some point in time he could become I'm
wishing him nothing but the best, But I think right
now he's he should be in college right now.

Speaker 3 (01:15:26):
I'm not the NBA.

Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
All right, thanks Bron. If he was in college at
SC he probably wouldn't be good enough to start. He'd
be getting six minutes a game and he'd be doing
about the same thing. With all due respect, because I
like him as a human being, he's a really classy kid.
He's not an NBA player. Our final caller tonight on
the on these subjects will be Mike in modesto. Mike,
you're in the home stretch. What do you got for us?

Speaker 3 (01:15:49):
Well, my thinking is simply this.

Speaker 13 (01:15:51):
Of course, the NFL is not rigged, and the elite
players can overcome the bad wrestling. That's why the chemistry.

Speaker 3 (01:15:58):
Is so good.

Speaker 13 (01:16:00):
They said the same thing about Montagna, they said the
same thing about Tom Brady. Oh it's rigged, it's it's rigged.
And now it's just Patrick Mahomes the nixed goat to come.
So no, I don't believe it's ragged that. The problem
is we got we got, we got a million depart
maybe a billion dollar industry in the NFL. And they
have part time referees. What the hell is that? Why

(01:16:24):
not have them full time referees, give them training during
the year, have them other levels, go to classes, and
you get what I'm saying, right, Bernie, Well, raise.

Speaker 2 (01:16:38):
Really time that I wish I had more time. We
got to do this somenight. Uh. It's a long story.
And these guys are graded and if they don't do well,
they don't work. Uh, they don't want full time referees
the NFL. They'll unionize, they'll become more powerful, they'll have
less control. They have actually had more control now and
for the most part they do a clean job. But

(01:16:59):
there's a lot of quies vegetable stuff. Okay. The question
is whether it's intentional, Mike. The question is whether this
is really rigged and I can't buy it. Have you
weighed on Brownie James yet? Have we talked about that.

Speaker 3 (01:17:12):
Bronnie James? You hit it.

Speaker 13 (01:17:16):
He's a college player at this point. Could he have
been good after about three seasons?

Speaker 3 (01:17:21):
There's no way. He's like a lebron at one and done,
two and done. He's a four year player. It was forced,
it was for Daddy James. Yes here, you're right, he's
hide character.

Speaker 13 (01:17:31):
I hope it works out for him.

Speaker 3 (01:17:32):
If it doesn't, is his dad's fault.

Speaker 2 (01:17:34):
All right, really good stuff, Mike, Appreciate you man. You've
called this segment many times. I want to thank all
the callers tonight on the Midnight Hour. I love the
diverse opinions, I love the disagreements, all and everybody who
called in. When you think the NFL is rigged or not,
you gave your reasons why, justified it with relevant specifics,

(01:17:56):
specific situations, events and games, where you sit as where
you stand. If you think it, you think it, I mean,
it's out there. We had to do this as a
topic tonight. And is one of the callers brought up
before that, it was Brady before that, it's you know
Al Davis used to complain in the seventies it was
rigged against him because they hated the Raiders. Right, So
this whole thing got started because in pro football talk,

(01:18:17):
the highly respected Dean Blandino's actually got a brother who
thinks it's rigged. This is a little crazy, but that's
how far this has gone. And as far as Brownie,
the Lakers really gave Ronnie kind of a big chance
Wednesday night, and man, it did not go well. It
was really ugly and I watched a lot of it.
I watched all fifteen minutes. If he is not an

(01:18:39):
NBA player, we've got to stop the charade. Knock yourself out.
The more you do it, the more it becomes an embarrassment.
That's just simply the way we see it. And look again,
great job by the callers tonight. Do I think the
Chiefs are going to repeat I do, because when the
heat is gets hot, it's hard to breathe. They got

(01:19:01):
a Hall of Fame coach with DNA, same with the
quarterback of the tight end, and that's how they roll.
So there you have it coming out Breeze three, keep
it locked. Fox Sports Radio.

after we get off the air. Hey, it's time to
talk some movies. It's time for Breeze three.

Speaker 11 (01:20:05):
Not one, not two, but three. It's entertainment. It's good.
It's Breeze three.

Speaker 1 (01:20:15):
All right, take it away, alrighty.

Speaker 18 (01:20:18):
So obviously we know Jimmy Butler has been in the
news recently, all kinds of drama surrounding whether or not
that he are gonna get ready and trade him. And
I just feel like at this point, Jimmy Butler is
just a name, right, Like it's just like, Okay, he's
not the player he used to be. So many injuries
has happened, he's obviously a little bit older, and now

(01:20:38):
he's just the name of like, you know, trying to
trade trying to trade him. So I was just thinking,
I think he's just a little overrated at this point.
And I think, no matter what team, unfortunately as a
sentence fan, there's a good shot that we might get him.

Speaker 19 (01:20:52):
But it's just kind.

Speaker 18 (01:20:53):
Of like, Okay, well we're getting the name of Jimmy Butler,
but it's not really it's not the player that he
used to be.

Speaker 19 (01:20:58):
So I was just.

Speaker 18 (01:20:58):
Thinking of overrated things in movies. So whether it's like
a TV show or an actor. So I started off
with Barbie from like last year, right, I felt like
Barbie was a little overrated. It got a lot of hype.
Greta Gerwig obviously had a lot of eyes on her Bernie, like,
you know, like for her directorial debut, and so and

(01:21:19):
Ryan Gosling I think was like a highlight. But I
just think the whole thing together, there was just so
much hype and just so much about it. But when
I saw the movie, like, I was really excited about it,
but when I went to go see it, I was like, oh, no, no, no,
this isn't what I was expecting. And it didn't really
like measure up to what I thought the name was
going to be and everything kind of leading up to it.

Speaker 2 (01:21:39):
So that was my I'll tell you, I gotta be honest,
I didn't see it. It was a total miss for me.
I couldn't couldn't have cared less, right, And I just
it just like, okay, what are we doing here? No interest?
So it doesn't surprise me that was.

Speaker 18 (01:21:51):
Overrated, yes, very And I was like and again, like
I was a little disappointed because obviously, growing up in
the nineties, Barbie was a big deal for me. I had,
I had the house, I had the car. I mean obviously,
you know.

Speaker 19 (01:22:04):
So, yeah, just it didn't measure up.

Speaker 18 (01:22:06):
And I actually love Greta Gerwick, So I was a
little disappointed.

Speaker 20 (01:22:09):
Was it a little bit of once everybody saw the movie,
that is like, if this is what it's about, then
that's not what I thought Barb was going to be about.

Speaker 19 (01:22:17):
Yeah, that kind of killed her too. I didn't see it,
but I've as.

Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
God it neither. And what's interesting is that wouldn't have
suayed me to see it either. They could have said
it was the greatest thing since Godfather. I don't care.
I'm looking at this thing from the outside looking in,
want nothing to do with it. Continue I'm sorry.

Speaker 18 (01:22:31):
No, no, no, I'm glad, like this is around.

Speaker 20 (01:22:32):
We had it on and somebody had it on in here,
so I saw them with editing here, but I saw it.
But just the idea of what the movie turned out
to be about seemed to change the audience, and that
just took away all of its thunder exactly.

Speaker 18 (01:22:46):
Yeah, and I and again, I just think like I
think people kind of went in with a different kind
of mindset and they walked out they're like, oh, a
lot of people loved it, Like I said, a lot
of people. I mean, it got a lot of hype,
but it just wasn't what I was expecting, and just
then itself and everything kind of stood. For my second one,
I went a little random, but I went le Angelo Ball.
Obviously he's been in the news lately. He performed at

(01:23:08):
halftime during the Lions.

Speaker 19 (01:23:11):
Their last playoff game.

Speaker 18 (01:23:12):
I just think the Ball brand in general, obviously, the
Ball brothers, Lonzo, Leangelo whatever, the other one is just
like Lamela, Oh yeah, yeah, I mean, okay, fine, Lamela,
you're right. Lamello is actually like he's her right now,
but he was actually he's interesting on the horn. He's
actually he can't he can't stay healthy, right, So I

(01:23:33):
so yeah, so Leangelo Ball that song like a tweaker.
It's called I've Heard a Little Bits and Pieces. Two
pros actually had it in their show and I was like,
oh my gosh, you guys, like, are we really doing this? Like,
oh my gosh, but yeah, I'm done, Like I never
want to hear the name of our ball. I never
want to hear Leangelo A Lonzo also can't stay healthy.

(01:23:54):
I don't know what's going to happen with him. So yeah,
I'm done, which is the ball brand altogether. It's been
too many years of just that. It's a miracle that
they're still around, honestly. And then so that's my second one,
and then I went Jason Kelcey for.

Speaker 19 (01:24:08):
My third one. I'm done.

Speaker 18 (01:24:11):
I'm done with Jason Kelsey. I'm done. I think he
has his little late night show. I understand like the
Kelsey name carries a lot of weight right now just
because of Travis Kelcey and Taylor Swift. To totally understand
and respect that, but that's it's just too much. Like
when he was on Monday Night Football, I thought people
are just paying attention to his outfits a lot rather

(01:24:33):
than what he wanted to say. And his wife also
got like a podcast also after kind of like how
he's been coming up the rings. I don't know if
you've been seeing any of his things, Bernie like his appearances.

Speaker 2 (01:24:45):
Well, I know Jason Kelsey has a show on Friday night.
I'm not going to watch it.

Speaker 1 (01:24:49):
Okay, Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:24:50):
He's a damn good player with the Eagles. They won
a Super Bowl. And the problem is is the Kelsey's
are running the risk of being overexposed to. And we
talked about we talked about you remark oh a little bit.
And here's the thing, so you heard my opening monologue
and all this conspiracy stuff about the Chiefs is based

(01:25:12):
on Chiefs hate. Well, when you see Jason Kelsey, what
do you think you're thinking chiefs? You think of Chiefs again,
So it's adding to this overall narrative. So yeah, we
see Jason Kelcey everywhere on Monday night football, doing commentary,
doing TV shows, doing commercials. You better be careful because
when you get over exposed like that, the public has enough.

Speaker 18 (01:25:34):
And I'm done, Like, I'm done. And I didn't even
care about him before. I've never cared about any Kelsey.
You know Travis urch I.

Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
You might like his story. He's a good dude, he's
a good you know, all the good stuff. But to
try to force fee to make him a star. That's
where I'm like, okay, do we really Okay? Fair enough?

Speaker 18 (01:25:52):
The Campbell's commercials were great, but oh yeah, I'm sorry, Okay, yeah,
I'm done.

Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
Mark so much. Well, I want you, I want you
to weigh on Jason Kelsey' oh.

Speaker 20 (01:26:01):
Just the well, yeah, like I said, there's too much
of them.

Speaker 2 (01:26:07):
And I respect him and I respect their accomplishments, but
when you're continually going to force feed him down our throat,
it doesn't work for anybody.

Speaker 20 (01:26:13):
I think we all agree that entertainment, once they find
something that they think is hot, they will jam it
down our throat until we say, you know, stop and
until something happens.

Speaker 2 (01:26:25):
Well, super Bowl Champions all that, but all of a sudden,
TV shows, Monday night football come right, all this stuff.

Speaker 20 (01:26:31):
So while it's hot, they're just going to keep doing
it because if we can make money off of it,
we're going to keep it going until it dies. And
you just kick the dead horse till it's that. David
Letterman used to say that, just do it until it dies. Yeah,
so there's that keep going with it. So my three
I picked a couple of TV shows and one of

(01:26:53):
them is the Chicago They have those three shows, Chicago Fire,
Chicago p D, and Chicago Med.

Speaker 19 (01:27:00):
I used to watch that a little bit.

Speaker 20 (01:27:01):
And I used to tease a friend about those shows
because I think there's TV shows that have pretty actors,
and then the pretty actors are always involved with each other.

Speaker 19 (01:27:15):
This one involved with that.

Speaker 20 (01:27:17):
One, and if it's you know, if they're in the
locker room and then they have cot locker rooms so
they're all together or they looking at each other, it
just seems like it's just one big soap opera. So
I just think that particular show was sort of overrated.

Speaker 19 (01:27:31):
I think it's still going. They have the Chicago shows.

Speaker 20 (01:27:35):
So those kind of that TV show, it just seemed
like it's like we were talking about, it's a little
overrated for me.

Speaker 19 (01:27:41):
So that's one of the ones that I picked.

Speaker 20 (01:27:42):
It's like three of them, and the other one that
I thought about that I just I mean, I parts
of it are funny, but I just think it's kind
of overrated. It's it's always sunny in Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (01:27:54):
Oh that that hadn't been on about ten years. Is
that's still running anywhere?

Speaker 18 (01:27:58):
It's still running.

Speaker 19 (01:27:59):
Yeah, I knew I would hurt somebody feeling.

Speaker 2 (01:28:02):
I haven't watched it enough to actually I maybe watched
ten minutes of one episode and I just couldn't go ahead, Mark,
you got.

Speaker 20 (01:28:10):
The floor, just the idea that you know, it's one
of those kind of TV shows where everybody has an
anxiety attack and they're always you know, frustrated and going crazy,
and then the whole group has to figure things out.
I guess I just don't care for that brand of comedy,
and I think that particular show was overrated. And I'm

(01:28:32):
getting looks, so I know I'm doing well because somebody's
looking at me anyway.

Speaker 19 (01:28:37):
But that's one another one of those shows.

Speaker 20 (01:28:38):
It's always Sonny and Philadelphia I just thought was overrated.
And then I'm not a big fan of South Park.
They have certain skits and they do crazy things, but
I wasn't always loving those two creators of the show,
or just that show. I know it's a big thing,
but it wasn't a big deal for me. I thought

(01:29:00):
it was a little bit overrated all the time. For
those in my three, it's always Sunny Philadelphia, South Park,
and then those Chicago Fire, PD and MAT So those
are my three, all right.

Speaker 2 (01:29:13):
I went with two actors and then one movie and
kind of keeping with the theme that clearly Jimmy Butler
is overrated. Now he's a pain in the ass. His
production is anywhere what it used to be. And look,
it just feels like he's a guy who's living in
the past right in terms of what he could bring

(01:29:34):
an NBA team right now. So who's overrated in the
acting world. This first name is going to shock you.
But he went to his grave never winning a Academy
Award to greatly his lament. I'm talking about Burt Reynolds
is talented and as much of a box office huge
star Burt Reynolds was, he never really believed he got

(01:29:58):
the respect from his peers as a serious actor with serious.

Speaker 19 (01:30:02):
Chops at the end with Buggy Knights.

Speaker 2 (01:30:04):
Well, and that's the thing, Mark, You're right. That was
nineteen ninety six. He thought for sure he was going
to win the Academy Award. The camera had a tight
shot on him. He didn't win it, and they clapped
and he did his best to be dignified, but you
could read his face. He knew that that was his
last shot. Okay, he was never going to win an
Academy Award deep down, and he was. Burt Reynolds was

(01:30:27):
quite candid about it in his later years. The first
movie he ever got was a movie called Navajo Joe.
No one's ever heard of Navajo Joe. I barely have,
only because he said I certainly didn't see it. But
he said he was so happy to get work. He
never turned anything down, and he made a lot of
bad decisions. He was offered. He already had another gig

(01:30:49):
at the time, but he could have been Randall P.
McMurphy in one floor of the Cucka's Nests. Instead it
went to Jack Nicholson.

Speaker 3 (01:30:57):
Oh wow.

Speaker 2 (01:30:58):
Not because he didn't have war. He had two or
three other movies he was working on. So towards the
end of his life he said, the reason no one
took me serious is I was in too many Navajo
Joe's what he was trying to say was he did
too much in too many non descript movies, so no
one took him serious. So the truth of the matter
is in real circles. In Hollywood actor circles, Burt Reynolds

(01:31:20):
was considered overrated. Yeah, ye story, because.

Speaker 19 (01:31:22):
He picked a bunch of you know, BC movies.

Speaker 2 (01:31:25):
They're all they were entertaining, but they were brainless movies,
you know, Smoking the Bandit all that kind of stuff.
Of course, Longest Yard was iconic, but he wasn't the
only one in that. There was a kind of an
ensemble cast at the second one. I may or man,
you know, Jim Carrey, bugs the hell out of me.
I've never liked him. I'll give him credit half credit
in one movie because he was alongside Jeff Daniels in

(01:31:48):
Dumb and Dumber. And Jeff Daniels is a Michigan guy.
He's as much of a solid citizen as you could
ever imagine. I came across so many times. I took
my daughter to see you Dumb and Dumber. She loved it,
and I ran into Jeff Daniels. You know you're not
supposed to do this, and you got a media creditial.
I said, my daughter's a big fan. To he goes,

(01:32:09):
give me you're right. He sent an autograph. Picture arrived
like the next day. Amazing. So I'll give Jim Carrey
half credit any other movie he has ever been in,
and I liar and the Trunder, overrated, sucked out. He's
never made me laugh, you know, the goofy faces. This
he just all right, I'm stammering. I don't like Jim Carrey.

(01:32:31):
I think he's overrated. The third one is a movie. Now,
this one is probably going to raise to my brows too.
It came in in nineteen seventy seven. I was playing
college baseball. The whole damn team went to see this movie,
and I said, I'm not going to look stupid. The
movie is called Star Wars. I just wasn't into a
wharf time. I'm not into warp time. I don't really

(01:32:51):
care about all that, right, And then there there were
Star Wars, Wars two, then the Empire strikes back. Didn't
see any of them. Fast forward to nineteen ninety seven.
A family kids took my kids is either the twenty
year anniversary to my wife and kids. I said, okay, well,
I get it now why people like this. There's some wisdom,
there's some yoda. This is basically a Western out in

(01:33:12):
the middle of outer space, and they tell these stories
and if you get into it, let it go. And
Harrison Ford okay, okay. Still, even though I watched it,
overrated to me. So Burt Reynolds, Jim Carrey, Star Wars
just my opinion, right. Everybody has their own opinions, and
these are just opinions. Back to you, guys.

Speaker 18 (01:33:33):
I love that Jim Carrey one.

Speaker 19 (01:33:34):
That's hilarious, it's funny.

Speaker 5 (01:33:36):
It doesn't make me.

Speaker 2 (01:33:37):
Laugh it neither does, I mean, you know, neither does.
Kevin Hart never makes me laugh. I think ever, I.

Speaker 18 (01:33:44):
Think Jim Carrey, I think he's just so. He just
tries to be so expressive and people just love like
the expressions and the faces, and I think it's a
little much, but some people just love that.

Speaker 5 (01:33:53):
I don't.

Speaker 18 (01:33:54):
I've never really been like a huge fan, so I
kind of agree with that. But I think that's why
people like Bruce all My like his loud voice and
everything else.

Speaker 20 (01:34:03):
But guys, I like two of his movies, like I said,
A Liar, Liar and then The Truman Show.

Speaker 19 (01:34:08):
I liked those about him.

Speaker 20 (01:34:09):
But other than that quick point about Star Wars Bernie,
when I first watched that, I got up and left.
When R two, D two and C threepo were in
the desert, I got up and left because I thought,
what am I watching? This is going nowhere. I got
up and I left. Years later, I started watching it

(01:34:31):
and I was like, oh, Okay, now I get it.
Like I just said, now I get it, because the
rockets were great and just the space stuff was great.
But like you, I got up and walked up because
when he got to that part, I thought it was
so boring. Anything was going to go anywhere, and I
got up and left.

Speaker 19 (01:34:45):
Did you ever go back and watch it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay,
I started watching. Okay, well yeah that was a guy.

to buy a quarterback, I'll tell you all you gotta do.

(01:36:35):
This is important. We had some exceptional calls tonight on
the midnight hour and one of the plays that came
up that sparks the narrative which has really gone haywire,
having to do with whether or not the NFL is rigged.
You know my thoughts on this. You heard my opening monologue.
Though I don't believe it is. We had some really

(01:36:56):
good callers though, Okay, I'm not going to in selt
their intelligence or dispute their premise because every one of
them gave a reason why, with specific specific situations. I
think it was Poppy said. Remember when Josh Allen had
looked like he got the first time one of the
referee signal he got it, the other singing he didn't

(01:37:17):
not a good optic. Then, of course that led to
the narrative. I mean that play has fed this narrative. Right,
the refs gave it to Kansas City, but Josh got
it all. By the way, why the hell are we
still using the same chain gangs Rockney used back in
eighteen forty one? All right, what's interesting is give it
up to Mike Florio, a guy I respect a lot.

(01:37:40):
Apparently he has come upon some information. The NFL is tarrative,
hearing criticism that they didn't use enough technology to determine
whether football is a first down or not, and the
league is not looking to implement any solution that we

(01:38:01):
know of anytime soon. And apparently, according to the NFL
and reports that I can't take credit for right that
when it comes to utilizing technology to determine whether a
first down was earned, you can use all this new
digital technology, but it can't replace the current procedure for

(01:38:27):
spotting the ball. According to representative fields of the NFL, quote,
what this technology cannot do is take the place of
the human element determining where forward progress ends. There will
always be a human official spotting the ball. So once
the ball spotted, then the line to gain technology actually

(01:38:50):
does the measurement itself. So I think it's probably been
a point of confusion around what the technology can and
can't do. There will always be a human element because
of the forward progress conversation. All right, end quote. Here's
what throws me though. I'm told, you know through cameras
and digital technology, and I'm not using the right terminology,

(01:39:15):
so forgive me. But when you see Josh Allen, you know,
diving through a pile of people and the ball clearly
appears to have at least crossed the line, technology can
note that metrically and annotate it, and that will tell
you where to spot the ball. So here's another argument. Okay,
can you sync up the moment the officials determined that

(01:39:36):
four progress was stopped with the specific location of the ball.
When that occurs, that's the whole purpose of incorporating technology
to help find the placement of the ball with an
electric line. Is okay, you already see where the line is.
They already do that with technology. They draw fake lines
on the field that you never see when you're in person.
Now you need to know where the ball is. And

(01:39:58):
right now, I think the lead he has to figure
out a way to do it. They got the money.
I think they have the incentive. Now. The truth of
the matter is if they want to do it enough,
they can figure it out. Yes, there will always be
a human element, right, but what they should be saying is,
while there's a human element, the NFL is fully committed
to trying to incorporate digital methods for determining where the

(01:40:21):
ball is when forward progress is stopped. All right, think
about it. If they want to do it bad enough,
I believe they can. Just like if your school wants
to buy a quarterback in college and you want it
bad enough in the NIL era, you can. It wasn't

(01:40:45):
that long ago Michigan who highly coveted a quarterback out
of Belleville, Michigan, which is probably about forty five minutes
or man on our kid by the name of Bryce Underwood.
It appeared that he was signed, sealed and delivered to
go to LSU. He wasn't signed. He'd committed verbally, he
hadn't you know, you know, the National Letter from ten

(01:41:06):
or anything yet, and Michigan pried them away. All it
took was twelve million dollars. Twelve million dollars. What if
your school wants to buy a new quarterback? So we'll
follow this year, okay, Because as college football wound down,
there was talking with a new playoff, there was talk
of bowl games, coaches this that. But what's what's the

(01:41:29):
primary talk about? Name, image and likeness deals and of
course the transfer portal because within three days or seven days,
ten days only, you know, twenty four hundred kids that
hit the portal. All right, but then you start putting names.
All right. You saw Carson Beck, who was a fixture
at Georgia for a couple of years. What did he do?

(01:41:53):
He decided to transfer to Miami. What are the details? Well,
remember Miami had a quarterback that's talked about as being
one of the top two quarterbacks drafted this year, cam Ward.
You come quite away, quite a long ways from his
day as an incarnate word. So Miami goes, we need
a quarterback. Well, what the hell we got four million

(01:42:15):
laying around? Carson Beck? You want to transfer from Georgia
to Miami for your final year of eligibility? Yeah, what
the hell, I got four million reasons you just gave
me to come there. At least that's the figure that
I believe going to give Front Office Sports credit for
reporting that figure. All right, have you heard of a

(01:42:37):
quarterback named Darien Mensa? Darien Mensa. I don't know if
he's a MENSA member, but he's got enough money now
to buy a Mensa. He transferred from Tulane to Duke.
I thought Duke was a basketball school. Now they're actually
a pretty good football school.

Speaker 14 (01:42:51):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:42:51):
All right, Well, Darien Mensa, and he maybe is a
MENSA student to go to Duke, you gotta be smart
to go there. Best of my knowledge, he's going to
get eight million dollars over two years. He's got two
years of eligibility. Mama's let your sons grow up to
be college quarterbacks. So Carson Beck gets four million to

(01:43:12):
transfer from Georgia to Miami. Darien Mensa gets four million
times two for two years to transfer from Tulane to Duke.
By the way, there's another gentleman who matriculated last year
at Washington State. Someday I'll have to ask Chris Plank
about him. He's transferring to Washington State. It's my understanding,

(01:43:35):
he's got two years left. He's also getting four million
per year. John Mattier to go from Washington State to Oklahoma.
If any of these figures are wrong, tweet Abbey. Let
me know. I'm not the burning bush here. I'm just
reporting what I'm reading and seeing and what's out there.
Because now it looks like four million per year that's

(01:43:55):
the going rate. So you want your school to buy
a new college quarterback, may not have to get him
twelve million, because I'll tell you and I'll get to
that in a minute. Bryce Underwood going to Michigan four mayon.
Right now, four million prior looks to be the going
market rate for a top college quarterback. But my guess

(01:44:16):
it's going going to go up. Okay. Quinn Ewers ended
up declaring for the NFL Draft. Now, I think arch
Manning is a much higher ceiling than quinn yours. And
what's interesting is when it was known that quinn Ewers
was leaving Texas because let's face it, by arch Manning,
he he's paid his dues, he's bied his time, he's

(01:44:39):
a Manning and you can clearly see he's got a
higher ceiling with all due respect to quin Ewers, who
remember it wasn't that long ago at a million dollars
out of high school to go to Ohio State before
he ever left high school and couldn't get on the
field there, so he transferred to Texas. Was supposedly off
quinn Ewers was supposedly offered eight min million dollars. No,

(01:45:01):
we don't know the name of the school to play
one more college season. I gotta tell you he should
have probably taken it. Won't He won't get that much
in the NFL, right, not out of the gate eight
million and he could hone his craft one more year.
So all of a sudden, you know, the nil and

(01:45:23):
the transfer portal forget wild West. I mean it's it's
this is just you know, bank robbery for crying out
lows loud. Okay, And in case you missed it, you know,
for all the knuckleheads it said Ryan Day was in trouble.
He was never in trouble. He was never in trouble.
They wouldn't have liked it if he lost to Tennessee.
They already hated it when he lost to Michigan. But

(01:45:44):
you know they weren't going to bust up their incoming class,
and they weren't going to run the risk of having
a bunch of players who already on that roster transfer
because in this day and age, man transferring out is
like you know, finding a parking spot doesn't take law.
Just it all culminated because Ohio State spent twenty million

(01:46:06):
nil money on their roster last year, all right, and
they ended up winning a national championship. We believe that
it was the biggest payroll, one of the two biggest
nil payrolls that season. Yes, payroll. So here's where we're
at right now, the entire an anile system. Excuse me,
it's looking like it's a way station. It's just a

(01:46:26):
stopgap until schools start to involve in revenue sharing with players.
And I believe the House versus NCAA settlement is about
to be adjudicated. Opponents had until yesterday, today's February first.
Now they until yesterday, January thirty first to file their grievances.

(01:46:48):
But for now, this whole nil system pay for play,
call it a system. It's very generous. It's carnival. It's
the new normal. That's the way it is. You don't
like it, you do about it. And because this is
the new normal. The biggest distinguishing factor between college sports
and the pros is now this. You're just a regular Joe.

(01:47:09):
You can't go to the Cincinnati Bengals and say I'll
give you ten million, go get this guy. You can, though,
directly contribute to your school and help them recruit new stars.
You can't personally give a million dollars to your favorite
NFL team or your favorite NBA team and say go
out and get this guy. But you can give a
million dollars to your alma mater and they're anil collective,

(01:47:30):
so they can go buy a new quarterback or hell,
running back or power forward for that matter. Now I
get it. You say, well, you can't do that. You're
not a multimillionaire. Only the ultra rich can do that, right, Well,
that's true, But do you have any idea how many
ultra rich alumni are floating around at various schools? All right, smu,

(01:47:54):
There in Dallas they got nil collectives that are oil bearings,
all right, they probably carry around eight million dollars in
their wallet. Did you forget who the big benefactor is
at Oregon? A guy by the name of Phil Knight,
who founded a company called Nike. And now we come
back to Michigan. What do you think Michigan got that

(01:48:16):
twelve million dollars? All right, Larry Ellison, who I believe
was one of the founders of Oracle, who's a billionaire, billionaire.
You know how much money a billion dollars is. We
hear numbers, Okay, we hear numbers. I'm going to give
you some perspective because you're underestimating how much money a

(01:48:37):
billion dollars is. If you started a count from one
to a million, one second at a time, they would
take twelve days. If you started to acount from one
to a billion one second at a time, that twelve
days jumps to thirty three years. Twelve days, thirty three years.

(01:48:57):
A billion is one thousand million. Larry Ellison's a billionaire
and his wife went to Michigan and they say, we
got to buy a quarterback, and that's why they gave
twelve million dollars to Hugh Bryce Underwood. We'll see how
it works. By the way, Saint John's University a very
respected university. They don't even have football team, but they

(01:49:20):
got billionaires too, Vitamin water founder Micropole. So even if
you're a part, you want to be involved, and you
don't have Larry Ellison money or phild Knight money or
right on down the line, you can still contribute. Here's
the thing, and I'm waiting to see this. I don't
know how long this lasts. I don't know a lot

(01:49:41):
of wealthy people who want to give money away without
some sort of serious return on investment. This is a gamble.
This is a gamble. He could lead to a national title,
or the player could get hurt, or the player could
be one and done and say I'm out of here, okay,
or both after three games. It may feel like ancient

(01:50:02):
history now, but it's not earlier. This season, MaTx Luca,
a quarterback at UNLV who transferred it from Holy Cross,
who allegedly, by his own description, was offered one hundred
thousand dollars to come to UNLV, got the team to
a three and zero start and abruptly announced he'd sit

(01:50:23):
out the rest of the season over quote nil representations
he said weren't fulfilled. So this isn't all peaches and cream.
One source that works for Front Office Sports apparently he
donated a few thousand dollars to the Vanderbilt nil collective
two years ago, obviously before nil prices reached this crazy

(01:50:48):
fever pitch that it's almost impossible to get your mind around.
I was told it was going directly to a specific player, who,
according to the source, got about twenty thousand nil money
from the collector. But six weeks later that player says, hey,
this is all alleged. I can't prove this is his
reports I hear. So he gets twenty thousand dollars from

(01:51:11):
a benefactor that wanted to see Vanderbilt do well, and
all of a sudden, six weeks later he says, hey,
Georgia came calling. They're going to give me two hundred
one thousand. And the source allegedly said, I wait a minute,
what about my money? Do I get it back? And
somebody who raised the money for the collector says, ah,
that's a good question. I don't know, but I don't

(01:51:33):
think so. How'd you like to be that guy? Now
back to Ohio State, Their massive payroll delivered the Buckeyes
their first championship of the newly created twelve team playoff era.
But as a guy named Matt Brown wrote for the
front off of Sports, the big price tag doesn't tell
the whole story. By the way, Oregon, which also had

(01:51:56):
an eight figure in asle roster, didn't even make it
past the second round. So he pays your money. It
takes your chances. In this new world of nil and
Collin sports recruiting. Cash buys you nothing. It buys you
a gamble. It doesn't guarantee victory, but you'd rather have
it than not have it. Come it up. Some very
disturbing news coming out of the NBA. We'll tell you

(01:52:17):
about it. I'm Bernie Fraddle. We're coming to you line

see the show posted right after we get off the air.
All right, some disturbing news in the National Basketball Association
stemming from an event back in March in twenty twenty
three involving Terry Rozier, a guard and by the way,

(01:53:26):
you've heard me talk about John Tay Porters and his
lifetime ban and the information that has resulted from some
of the investigations that appear to be connected to a
much larger federal probe into even college players wagering on
their own teams. I don't have any details, but we're
watching this. And in addition to again, former NBA player

(01:53:48):
John Tay Porter who was just banned from the league
for life last year as well he should be if
you know the story, well, all of a sudden, the
investigators are starting to look in new performances of other
NBA players, and sources say that Terry Rozier, he currently
played for the Miami Heat, is a subject of certain

(01:54:09):
scrutiny dating back to his time with the Charlotte Hornets
in twenty twenty three. Now Rosier has been in the
league eleven years. He's a decent player, fourteen point a
game guy, and he's you know, more prominent than John
Day Porter was, but he's still basically a bench player.
And Ford was, you know, the guy, a three point

(01:54:32):
a game guy in parts of two seasons. And the
Porter case arose after he allegedly, you know, had amassed
significant gambling debts by about this time last year is
when it was reported, and in order to have the
debts forgiven, allegedly, Porter agreed to leave certain games early

(01:54:54):
to ensure the success of prop bets that he would
underperform expectations. So what do we mean by that. Let's
there was a prop at that terry that John Tay
Porter would be involved in and you could bet that
he would have over or under, say two and a
half rebounds, and before he got to you'd bet the under,
and he would you know, allegedly communicate to betters, hey,

(01:55:17):
you know, go under tonight, and he would leave the
game for whatever reason well before he got the two
rebounds and betters could cash. And I heard their stories.
They the the the forensic evidence allegedly found texts that said, Hey,
I'm out of the game now blah blah blah. Well,
this is getting serious, Okay. Apparently the Eastern District Pennsylvania,

(01:55:41):
the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, excuse me, the US Attorney's
Office is not handling these inquiries into some very suspicious wagering,
which these things are monitored, including by companies. My buddy
Mett Hope founded US Integrity, and now they're handling an
inquiry into at least one particular Temple men's university basketball

(01:56:02):
game last March against Alabama Birmingham. And in that game,
the first half wagering line jumped from University of Alabama
being favored by one and a half points to them
being favored by eight points, which prompted an alert to
be sent out from the monitoring service I just mentioned
US Integrity. Some betting outlets stopped accepting wagers on the game, which, oh,

(01:56:26):
by the way, UAB won by twenty eight points after
leading by fifteen points at halftime. You get the feelings
somebody knew something. A player at the center of that inquiry,
allegedly his former Temple guard named Fab Miller, who was
the OWLS leading scorer last season. Miller scored eight points,
committed three toners in the game, made three to nine

(01:56:49):
field goals. He transferred from Temple to Virginia Tech during
the offseason, but was dismissed by Virginia Tech before the
season began for what the school said where quote circumstances
before his enrollment at Virginia Tech. So you've got the
college game being looked at. You already saw what happened
with Johnte Porter getting looked at, and now you have

(01:57:14):
a guard who currently plays for the Miami Heat named
Terry Rozier. All this, I'm sure is quite concerning to
Commissioner Adam Silver, who in any major league, in any
major league, wants to ensure that their product and the
integrator of the outcome is honest. So there are not

(01:57:37):
just one, but numerous investigations underway, and I think it's
safe to say things that are starting to get a
little ugly. This is serious business. I'm looking for more
rope to tage on this. Remember, gambling was legalized in
twenty eighteen and thirty two states are on board, and
for the most part it's been pretty good. But these
things start to raise eyebrowns. And these are stories we're

(01:57:59):
going to continue to follow, including Saturday night, when I'm
back on these airwaves at eleven PM sit for the
Bernie Frider Show. Keep it locked up next to Fellas
