Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is Straight Fire with Jason McIntyre.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
What is up? Straight Firefam, It's me Jason McIntyre Street
Fire for Friday, February seventh. Your boy's hurting. Man. Not
used to these late nights and all this work. Now,
I'm just kidding. It's not work, it's fun. I'm living
a dream, baby, living the dream. It's been a productive
week in New Orleans. But I gotta say keeping it
(00:32):
real with you guys. As usual, this NBA trade deadline
was bonkers. So after I recorded late Wednesday night, I
went to bed, turned the phone on silent and did
not hear like forty five minutes after I went to bed,
all these texts from my LA buddies. Rob Pelinka's a gangster.
Oh my goodness, everybody's so fired up. Lakers making another trade. Okay,
(00:59):
late Wednesday, they ship my guy Connect for Dalton Connect
along with Cam Reddish, a pick and a couple of swaps,
and they get Mark Williams, a young jumping jack from Duke. Now,
you guys know him, a nerdy college basketball guy. So
I watch a lot of college hoops and I watched
Mark Williams a couple of years ago, and I had
him I was like, this guy, loved this guy. He
(01:20):
had an amazing march madness which just dunked everything, blocked everything,
just a menace inside. And he gets to the NBA
and lottery pick for sure, I can't really stay healthy.
But it's Charlotte, Like does anybody thrive in Charlotte ever?
And you know, Mark Williams are putting up some pretty
good numbers this season. But where you really get excited
(01:42):
and also concerned is his the injury situation. Because we're
talking about a guy who, for whatever reason, cannot seem
to stay healthy. When he's been in Charlotte, he's always
dinged up, and you know, sometimes something. He's got a
standing reach of nine feet nine inches. That's taller than
Wembin Yama. Okay, he's only seven feet tall. He's got
a longer standing reach than Wemby, and you know, these
(02:03):
bodies are weird. The guy barely plays. However, when he
does play, he is rapidly improving. So as a rookie,
average nine and seven as a second year guy, average
twelve and nine as a third year guy this year,
fifteen and nine. That's only in twenty five minutes a game.
You look at his per thirty six numbers. And again,
(02:25):
once you know he gets up to speed, he's going
to be playing more than twenty five minutes a game,
should he? If he were playing thirty six minutes a night,
his numbers come out to twenty two and thirteen. Guys,
if the Lakers are making a playoff run, Mark Williams
is playing in the neighborhood of thirty six minutes a night.
I mean, that's how good of a potential player this
(02:48):
guy is. Just consider this if the Lakers. If I
told you a week ago the Lakers would give up Dalton, Connect,
Max Christy, two first round picks and a pickswap for
Luka Doncic, you would have said, in a heartbeat, oh
my gosh, I'll do that. Okay, so ad Max Christy,
(03:08):
Dalton Connect two picks and a swap for Luka Doncic.
You do that in a heartbeat, no doubt about it.
The Lakers not only got Luca, but they got Mark Williams. Guys,
are you kidding me? I don't see how you're not
tooper gast about the Lakers. And a message to my
guy Charles Barkley, who just hates my guts doesn't like
me calling him out. A quick reminder, Charles, the Lakers
(03:29):
are ten games over five hundred, and they are firmly
in the mix to maybe crack the top three in
the West. And I'll tell you this, I haven't talked
to Luka Doncic, I haven't talked to Lebron, but I
can garn fing tu they are not one bit nervous
about facing any of the top three in the West.
That's Memphis, that's Okasee, and that's Houston. Those are the
(03:52):
top three teams in the West. Now the Nuggets are
another story because Yokich is an animal and he's done
it before. But I'm just total honesty guy as usual.
I don't see it. I don't see the fear whatsoever
facing Houston when you're gonna have the best player on
the court, or Memphis or Okay. See, you think lucas
afraid of SGA. I mean they don't have anyone who
(04:14):
can guard Luka Doncic. Look, we look at the series
last year. Luca was dominant. PJ Washington at good series,
Kyrie Irving had a good series. Yeah, Lebron and Luca,
I'm not saying they're gonna win the series, but they're
not going into it like massive underdogs are terrified. Oh
my gosh, are we gonna handle SGA like they're gonna
be fine. Austin Reeve is probably gonna get cooked by him,
but you know what, a lot of people get cooked
by SGA. So if I'm a Lakers fan, I am
(04:35):
so giddy. I gotta go order my Luca Doncis Jersey.
I mean, guys, how can you not be excited? However,
there actually was one the Mark uh Lamark Williams trade
I loved. I will say this. I thought the second
best move this week after the Luca trade was what
the Cleveland Cavs did late or right before the deadline
(04:59):
on on Thursday. They went and stole former lottery pick
DeAndre Hunter, guy who played at UVA his most The
most memorable thing about UVA and DeAndre Hunter was he
missed the game when they played the sixteen seed and
UVA lost. I'm almost certain of that. I probably should
have checked it before I said it, but if memory serves,
he was hurt in that game, did not play and
(05:21):
they ended up losing. And we all know that, Like
you know, DeAndre Hunter is a good player. He's not
an amazing player, but he's really good. Like, is he
ever gonna be an All Star? Probably not, but he
doesn't have to be. They don't need that. What the
Calves lack. They have a great backcourt of Garland and Mitchell.
They have two awesome bigs and I'm talking awesome bigs
(05:41):
in Mobley and Allen. Okay, they are set. What do
they not have a wing? It's like they're trying out
Dean Wade, Isaac Ocoro, like they just haven't been able
to find it. And they go out and swing this
trade for DeAndre Hunter, who is a D without a
ton of D there's some defense. Listen, it's passable. It's
(06:05):
I would say it's at least on par with a
Coro and Wade. But guys, if we are really just
looking ourselves in the mirror and being honest with each other,
this is a humongous sketch for the Cavs. DeAndre Hunter
easily makes this team right there beneath the Celtics in
knicks Now, record wise, they're the best team in the East.
(06:26):
But don't I don't know that we're at the point
where anybody is genuinely like a damn we got a
fight with the Killeran Cavaliers in the playoffs. I just
don't think we're at that stage with them yet because
they haven't proven it. Donovangels had some really really spectacular
playoff games, but he hasn't always been spectacular, and Darius
Carlin's had some real bad clunkers. And how will the
(06:49):
two bigs play in a playoff series where half court
matters and three pointers matter.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
And oh, by the way, I did just look it up.
DeAndre Hunter did miss the twenty eighteen game against the
sixteen seed when they lost, and DeAndre Hunter was there
the next year where they won the National Championship, and
a Hunter had twenty seven points in the Natty against
Texas Tech. The really impressive game from DeAndre Hutter. I'm
(07:30):
telling you, this guy's really good six to seven wing.
He's a floor spacer. Honestly, that's a massive get. And
I don't know, guys, we looked at a team last
year like the MAVs who went out and got PJ. Washington.
He fit perfectly. It was a huge get they get
to the finals. We saw the Lakers now at the deadline,
(07:55):
making moves that I think puts them in position to
get to the finals. And now we see the Calves,
and I'll tell you that I would not be shocked
if the Caves were in the NBA Finals, And that
would be quite a thing, because remember when they got
donovitchellverybody's like, oh, he's not going to stay there. Well
he stayed, and now they're really in good fricking shape.
I think Celtics who are kind of going through that
(08:15):
Patrick Mahomes Chiefs thing where it's like, oh, we just
won the championship. Yeah, we'll be back, We'll be fine,
and they're really kind of going through the motions. I
think the Knicks are hungry. I just if I'm the Knicks,
I do not want to be on the same side
of the bracket as the Celtics. I would much rather
be on the same side of the bracket as the Calves.
But East is going to be really stacked. Now they're
(08:36):
talking about Luca's debut. There was chatter that it would
be Saturday. It's looking increasingly like it will be Sunday.
I'm sorry, it will be Monday. I forget who they play,
but it sounds more like, oh, Utah Jazz on Monday,
the facilitators of every important trade. I guess. The other
interesting thing regarding the NBA is like this discussion about
(09:03):
stacked teams. It's funny people are upset, you know. I
saw the Phoenix Suns like players. The mood in the
locker room was somber because they were dangling Beale and
Durant and ended up keeping both of them. Again, yes,
you're gonna have stars on certain teams, but there is
a salary cap. And I saw this story that Rob Manford,
(09:23):
the commissioner of Major League Baseball, said, fans are emailing
him because there's no salary cap. And I'm gonna go
ahead and assume a bunch of these are coming from Pittsburgh,
where they've got that star pitcher who Paul Schemes or
whatever is however you say his name. He's dating some
super famous Instagram influencer, and he went to the All
Star Game as like the starter, and he added with
(09:46):
an amazing season, and all the talk was is, oh,
where's he going to be playing in three years, you know,
when his deals up and they can't afford him. And
it's not that they can't afford him, they just choose
not to pay astronomical suns. That's what some of these
markets do. Some of these owners realize, oh, there's revenue sharing.
Oh well, I'm just gonna make money even if I
don't spend it. Oh that's cool, so I don't have
(10:06):
to overpay pay a luxury tax. I saw stat that
the Dodgers had a one hundred and three million dollar
luxury tax after they won the World Series. One hundred
three milion. That's significant. The Athletics had the lowest luxury
tax payroll at eighty four million. Eighty four Their payroll
(10:29):
the Athletics was eighty four million. The Dodgers' luxury tax
bill was one hundred and three million. If people don't
see that, there's a massive gap and problem in Major
League Baseball. And I know the argument is, well, look
at all the different winners we have. That's the wrong
way to look at it. You've got teams every year
(10:50):
starting this season. It's like college football knowing you don't
have any chance, no chance to win it all none.
It's just not happening, you're not going to get a
seat at the table. And if you don't spend, and
I yes, I know there are examples. Hey, the Detroit Tigers,
you know, payroll with this and they made the playoffs.
See it can be done, guys. Yeah, of course one
(11:11):
offs can happen. That's gonna happen, just as some heavy
payroll teams are gonna spend and they're gonna miss the playoffs. Randomly,
it's gonna happen. But by and large, over the course
of five ten years, spend money, get to the playoffs
that has borne out, and then the numbers are there
and back it up. Your chances if you spend more money,
if you're a top ten payroll, your chance is to
(11:32):
make the playoffs go up. Period, end of story. And
it's not really the same when there's a salary cap. Yes,
it can sometimes be the same or a period, but
I don't know. I'm pro. I'm definitely pro like salary
cap of some kind. And I know baseball fans are like,
let's go with the salary floor, and it's like, okay, well,
now you're telling teams they have to spend X. I
(11:56):
much prefer where it's like, Hey, you can spend up
to X and the Dodgers aren't just gonna spend a
billion more than you, and you embarrass you with their payroll,
and it's like, I just it really still boggles the
mind how many people don't agree with this. They are
kind of baseball purists, I believe. But overall, I think
(12:19):
the NBA had an amazing week. Do you guys remember
how recently it was that the NBA topic was about
guys sitting out and the three pointer in the corner?
Should they remove it? And oh, what about the length
of quarters? We really should change that too, Like those
were NBA topics. Now it's like, ooh, look at all
(12:41):
these fresh players moved into different teams. That's exciting. There's
gonna be a lot of games that I'm looking forward
to this week, specifically the Lakers. But even when it's
more than just players moving around. Now there's talk that, hey,
who's going to be on the buyout market. Bruce Brown,
who was instrumental in a Nuggets playoff title run a
(13:03):
couple of years ago, he was shipped from I think
the Raptors to somewhere bad. He's gonna get bought out
and he's gonna be an eligible piece. I don't know
if he's gonna want to go to a contender or
if he's gonna want to chase some money. I don't
know what's gonna happen, but like he's valuable. And the
other name to keep an eye on, and I have
totally forgotten about this guy is Ben Simmons. Ben Simmons
(13:23):
apparently can get bought out by the Nets. They're going nowhere,
and he could go to a contender like a Milwaukee.
I have no idea. I mean, I don't even know
how good Ben Simmons is because you know, he's been
stuck in purgatory with Brooklyn, one of the worst teams
in the league. But just the mere fact that he's
likely gonna get bought out, I think another interesting saga.
And folks, it's just been a great week for the NBA,
(13:45):
and I know that comes at the expense of the NFL,
and that's just a little bit. The NFL game obviously
is going to be enormous on Sunday. Everybody's fired up,
but we do get the potential for Lucas Saturday. I
do believe it'll be Monday that he plays and as
like an appetizer ahead of Sunday's phenomenal Super Bowl. And
(14:05):
now I think it's time for us to dive into
some best bets for the Super Bowl. And there are many,
and I'm just going to say at this point, you
know you want to keep your powder drive from march
Man is great. I had kind of a rough string
here in college hoops betting in the last like six weeks.
It just hasn't been great since that epic run. I
think it was late December. There's it's just been a
little chaotic and not seeing the ball well as they
(14:28):
say now. But let's get to the Super Bowl and
best bets.

(14:52):
Here's your best bet, All.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Right, let's go with the best bets for the Super Bowl,
final edition of the NFL season. Oh boy, here we go.
There's a lot of them. I like over two and
a half field goals for the Chiefs, Butker's range is unbelievable.
You know, the last miss he had in the playoffs
on a field goal was in the Super Bowl against
the Eagles. He's fifteen for his last fifteen. The Eagles
(15:18):
red zone defense is good. I believe they're fifth in
the league, and I don't see the Chiefs going on
fourth repeatedly as opposed to just taking points. This is
not an Eagles offense that I don't think is going
to overwhelm the Chiefs. I think they'll win the game,
but I do believe over two and a half field
goals for Butker is a good one plus two fifty six.
A couple buddies talked me into this kickoff or punt
(15:41):
return touchdown plus nine to eighty. Yes, I'm not even
familiar with Nico Remigio, some young kid who's super fast
for the Chiefs. I don't recall him at all during
the season doing anything. And then in the playoffs he
had a monster punt return forty one yards against the Bills.
Then he had that kickoff return against the Texans sixty
(16:04):
three yards. Has not had a kick return touchdown, but
he's fast and plus nine to eighty A bit of
a long shot, but I took it a fun crossover bet.
What will be higher the total points in Celtics Knicks
or Jalen Hurts passing yards. I took Jalen Hurts passing
yards plus one thirty. TA who comes on the pod
(16:27):
A lot likes Jalen Hurts over pass attempts, and the
breakdown's pretty interesting. Listen, Spagnolo and the Chiefs have had
two weeks to dial up some stuff to stop sake one,
it seems unlikely that this is going to be a
thirty carry game for Barkley, and maybe Hurts is not
going to drop back forty times, but thirty totally in play.
(16:47):
I mean two hundred and fifty passing yards means Celtics
Knicks would have to be like one twenty five, one
twenty four, and then Hurts two hundred fifty passing yards
tops it barely. Celtics have not looked good at all lately,
Nicks have. I anticipate this being like a playoff field
game since it's before the Super Bowl. So my guess
(17:09):
is a little lower scoring than the opener, which had
two hundred and forty one points. So I like Hurts
over Hurts is plus one thirty on that nobody likes
Hurts anymore. First two games of the playoffs. He didn't
do much early regular season. These first impressions really get
to folks, and everybody's down and Hurts. I actually haven't
bet on him to win the MVP plus three seventy.
(17:32):
It's basically everybody's betting Barkley, everybody's betting Mahomes. I will
go aside from that, and I will go with my
main man, Jalen Hurts, who I think sid line for
a big game against what I believe is in an
overrated Chiefs defense, another show up in big games. I
get that Spagnola will dial up all the best plays
when it matters most, but I do have a ticket
(17:53):
on Jalen Hurts to get MVP. I have over five
and a half receptions for Xavier Worthy. Look at his
target share. It's been pretty consistent the last like seven
or eight weeks combining regular season in playoffs, and he
is a gadget guy who can line up everywhere. Right
you line him up in the slot in the backfield.
We know Mahomes doesn't like to chuck it downfield as
(18:14):
much anymore, and the Eagles corners are kind of studs
although I expect him to pick on Darius Slay a
little bit because he's maybe the weak link, big place Leigh,
who is a little feast or famine. So I over
five and a half are worthy. I have over fifty
and a half receiving yards for Dallas Goddard. I believe
that has moved, so you might want to check that.
I have Mahomes's longest completion under thirty five and a
(18:37):
half yards. I have for first touchdown. I took a
bunch of flyers Juju Smith Schuster plus twenty three ten.
There's no way that's hitting for the Eagles. I have
both tight ends, Hurts and Barkley. I know, Jason, what
are you doing? Well, I'm having fun, you know, he
just spraying the board. Final NFL game of the season. Yeah,
(18:59):
I've got probably more bets than I would like. Oh,
Saquon three plus touchdowns is plus sixteen hundred. I mean,
he had three against Washington. It's unlikely he's going to
do that again. But if you believe this is a
high scoring game, why wouldn't you have a chance take
a chance on Saquon three touchdowns Eagles winning margin seven
(19:19):
to twelve points. Yes, I can hear your laughter. Plus
five zho five, I took it. I think the Eagles win.
I would put it thirty one to twenty thirty one
to twenty three, somewhere in that range. I like the
Eagles in this. I have the Eagles teased up to
it plus eight, and I teased it down. The total
(19:41):
in over forty three and a half. So I do
like the Eagles. I know, going against Mahome, Jason, you
really want to kick in the teeth again, just like
last year with the Niners. You mean the game the
Niners were leading before a fluky punt Debaco got them
back in the game. Yeah, that's the same Chief Sunfading. Yeah,
same Chief some fading that beat the Buffalo Bills. Yep,
(20:03):
I had the Bills. Yeah, it happens, guys. Noah Gray
over twelve and a half receiving yards. Obviously, we've seen
teams attack the Eagles tight ends because again, the cornerbacks
are so good. So I think Noah Gray or Kelsey
could have a good game, but the Bills schemed Kelsey
out and then Mahomes just ran for everything. So there's
a world where it's like, Okay, is it gonna be
Noah Gray, Is it gonna be Xavior worthy? Are they
(20:25):
going to dump off to p Ryn? Is this Patrick
Mahomes run game? I mean, so many factors at play.
It's just so fun to break down all of this crap.
It's a last NFL game in the season. After that,
I guess we could do some betting on the draft
right post combine, I think they start to release some stuff. Well,
(20:46):
we know who's definitely in and who's rising and falling.
After the combine. It's been a great football season, a
fun one, not as lucrative as college, but you know
they all can't be so guys. That wraps up a
wonderful NFL season on the betting front, and we hope
the game is great. Go Eagles. I do not want
a threepeat, but it certainly is in play because it's
(21:06):
Patrick Mahomes enjoyed the game back on Monday,
