(00:28):
an absolute jam pack show tonight, And of course it
is Super Bowl weekend. We are culminating now in the
two week convention that the NFL has every year known
as the Super Bowl, which culminates a little game that'll
kick off three point thirty pm Pacific time on Sunday,
six thirty Eastern. And if it feels like there isn't
(00:52):
quite the same verve and buzz and such, well that's
because I don't think there is. But don't worry when
Sunday rolls around the seven hundred million tons at guacamole
and beer and pizza and wings, and we'll get to
all that. We've got a lot of time to cover this.
We've got a lot to cover tonight and two teams
(01:14):
evenly matched. There has never been a situation where the
betting line in the Super Bowl is closed.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
It all pick them right now.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
The handle is not as high as it's been in
recent years either. But we're gonna get to all that
stuff because there is there were other things in the news,
and we've got to cover it all.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
We've simply got to cover it all.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
I cannot remember ever ever that heading into the Super
Bowl game on Sunday that any other sport with upstage
as far as the news cycle goes the NFL now.
I know, I haven't really checked how many times the
(01:58):
trade deadline fell seventy two hours.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Before kickoff with a Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
But it all started last Saturday night, when you know,
about half an hour before was signing on My Saturday show.
There's this jaw dropping, blockbuster trade that many people thought
was a hoax or a fake, including Lebron himself, who
you know, believes he's king of the universe when it
(02:24):
comes to running the Lakers. And this is gonna be
a boone story on and off the court.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
We don't even know.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
I have no idea if these two will ever even
get on the damn court, all right? Can you get
on the damn court already, maybe it'll be Monday. Don't
hold your breath.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
But for the Lakers, for the NBA, for.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
The job that we do, this is going to continue
to be a boon and the fallout just keeps coming.
And we find out now that Luka Doncik never has
to be traded.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Never threat refusal of a five year.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Forty five million dollars super Max contract he could have
theoretically signed this summer made no mistake.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
He was the face of the.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Mavericks franchise, a perennial MVP candidate the past six seasons,
made five All Star teams, and led a very much
underdog Mavericks team to the Western Conference Finals in twenty
twenty two and the NBA Finals just last year. Facts
hashtag facts. No player like him at this juncture of
(03:30):
his career had ever been traded. And I said it
when I signed on Saturday Night. Look superstars get traded.
I gave the chronology of Louell sinder Kareem Abdul Jabarro
Lakers as well, But I can never remember two superstars
traded for each other in the dead of night, in
the middle of the season, right before the trade deadline
(03:51):
with this sudden, you know, coming out of nowhere, and
the question now is will it be impactful?
Speaker 3 (03:59):
I don't think so. I don't think the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Have any better chance of winning an NBA title with
Luca and Lebron, And I'll get into that.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
I'll get into the reasons why.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
By the way, As for Davis and the Lakers, Anthony
Davis didn't have to be traded either, nor is he
a slouch. He's averaged twenty six points and twelve boards
a game this year, which frankly supports Lebron James statements.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
And I don't know.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Every time my Lebron says something, my teeth itched, so
I don't know if he means it or not. But
he said that he believed, you know, that Anthony Davis
was the Lakers' best player this season. Do I believe
Lebron really believes that? No, Hell no, I don't. But
I believe Lebron wanted to say it for effect. And
Anthony Davis has been pretty solid all right. Remember he
(04:46):
forced his way off the New Orleans Pelicans in twenty nineteen.
Davis did finagle to trade to the Lakers with the
help of Rich Paul, who actually who's also Lebron's agent,
and then James and Davis. They've been kind of fricking act.
They've been an inseparable pair. Davis has been the defensive anchor.
I see that at air quotes when he was available
(05:07):
all the last couple of years. And they did win
the championship in twenty twenty. Remember the great NBA Final
tournament that you know, the it was what I was
calling the you you know, the the Hotel California NBA Finals.
You can check out any time you want, but you
could never leave. Yeah, Lakers didn't have to travel for
four months, and uh, I.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Think they benefited from that. But I digress.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
In the age of player empowerment, though Anthony Davis the
resume is probably strong enough on its own to have
to at least be consulted any trade, especially the trade
involves him. And if Anthony Davis isn't quite that player
on his own, well, one would think his relationship with Lebron, James,
n Rich Paul should have afforded him the opportunity to
(05:52):
hear he could be traded before he was traded and
speak up if he didn't like it. But Rob Polink
has served, not its new sheriff in town. There's going
to be a statue Rob Polenka in front of Staples
Center someday, even if they never went again. Remember he
was on that Fab five Michigan team, So dude's got
a resume instead. Thanks to the leadership and command decisions
(06:13):
and unilateral decisions made by Rob Polenkat, neither Anthony Davis,
nor Rich Paul nor Lebron James was given the chance
to speak up. The deal was hatched in the middle
of the night by two front office executives who really
kept the negotiations as quite as possible. So right now, honestly,
(06:34):
the basketball world is still reeling from that deal. Davis
to Dallas coming out of nowhere, and would you consider
all the league's trade speculations, rumors in you and it's
a miracle they kept as quiet. It's a major move
for the Lakers, though, because they're a franchise of eras
you know, I've talked about this a bazillion times. They're popular,
(06:57):
they're iconics. People love them, people love the hit. Their
second NBA history with seventeen championships, They've gone from the wilt,
you know, West Baylor Jabbar Era to Lebron, checked that
magic and Kareem to Kobe and Shack to Lebron and
(07:20):
then of course now Bronni and dude's even making threes.
Now get out of the way, here comes Bronnie James
to Now the torch clearly will be handed to Luka Doncic.
He will be that face long after Lebron has gone.
Although I don't know if Lebron will ever leave. I
think I think he'll play an under ten or fifteen
years because he just missed this spot. He'll realize, you know,
(07:40):
he'd been in the spotlight. He misses the spotlight a
hell of a lot more than the spotlight's gonna.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Miss him immediately.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
The Lakers championship odds more than doubled. The books got
out ahead of it. It was kind of a cya thing.
But based on a probability of going from two point
four percent to five point five percent, you know that's
not exactly a ringing endorsement. I think they went from
forty to one to eighteen to one. But look, we're
(08:07):
gonna watch this. I'm sure as hell gonna watch this.
The Lakers now gained a major offensive boost from the
arrival of Luka Doncic. What will that manifest itself as?
Will it be a deep playoff run? But we're gonna
have a very fun midnight hour tonight coming up at
about fifty one minutes. Give this some thought, Luca, Lebron,
we're gonna talk about this as part of it, all right.
(08:29):
Remember the Lakers had first round losses in twenty twenty
four and twenty twenty one, a non appearance in twenty
twenty two, but did get to the conference finals a
couple of years ago amazingly. So now you've got another
franchise face for when Lebron James ever chooses to retire.
He said he could still play at a high level
for another five to seven years and perhaps continue to
(08:51):
give postgame comments at a very low level for another.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
Fifty to seventy years.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
But he says, I'm not going to do that, which
means it's exactly what he's probably gonna do. Le's playing basketball.
It's what he does, and okay, and he's made the
Lakers franchise a lot of money. But listen, gotta be fair,
Luco Doncik and Lebron James on the court together, he's
gonna be Musky Television at least for a while. Seriously,
(09:18):
the Lakers are back in the sports conversation. Okay, they
may have even edged out the Dodgers for a while.
And you know, pitchers and catchers are going to reporting
it about six days, by the way, so we are
watching it.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
This is a boon. What about Dallas?
Speaker 2 (09:36):
I don't know, man, it ain't easy to be in
Nico Harrison right now, the general manager for the MAVs.
He tried to put a brave face on the decision, saying,
you know, the defense wins championships and arguing that they
are now improved with Anthony Davis, who still has yet
to play, been in town a few days, hadn't played yet.
I don't know that people are buying it, though. People
(09:58):
are really scratching their head to don't understand the logic
of the deal. I'm guessing he you know, somewhere along
the line, is talented and prolific offensively, as Luka Doncic says,
he just bugged this dude. He bugged Nico, he bugged him,
and he says, I'll be damn if I give this
(10:18):
guy three point fifty if even though he can score
you know forty any night. He's built like a Donuts
sales in a can't guarter park car. It's bugging me.
It eventually will come out maybe or not. All right,
So the truth of the matter is Dallas has other
issues too. They want to build a new arena. The
American Airline Center is a bit aged, and you know,
(10:41):
maybe it puts it puts people on notice, all right,
anybody can be traded. People better have a certain loyalty
to and commitment, and you better be held to a standard,
so on and so forth. Meanwhile, Kevin Durant didn't get traded.
More to follow on that will cover it. Have a
with Mark Mondena on Saturday. And meanwhile, you can say
(11:03):
the Jimmy Butler era has entered in Miami officially thanks
to a massive five team trade. I believe Butler will
play tomorrow Saturday. The Warriors had reportedly been going after
several players in recent days. Kevin Durant was mentioned, although
allegedly he didn't want to play for Golden State anymore.
Butler already waived is his fifty five million he would
(11:24):
have been the next two seasons and or fifty two
whatever it was signed for one hundred eleven million.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Extension for the next two years. And there's a whole
bunch of players.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
I don't I got to name them all, Pete, you
know Old j Tucker, Lenny Wallers and Luke, Josh Richardson
and Dennis Shrewder, the legendary the Jazz were even involved.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
So were the Raptors.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
And I, you know, need to failanths of attorneys to
sort that one out. I could do it for you,
but I don't think you care one final thing. Not
not for nothing.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
In the wake of the Luca trade Luca for Anthony Davis,
the Lakers also goodbye to Dalton Connect.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Sheesh barely been there. I thought it was an excellent
draft choice. They acquired center Mark Williams. That are trade
with the Charlotte Hornets, and Dalton Connect was their prize rookie.
They also send Cam Reddish.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
Look.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
The Lakers had potentially two first round picks to work
with in the trade deadline. The first one went to
the Mavericks in the twenty twenty nine pick, and now
they're going to use his second one to acquire Mark Williams.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
Now.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Mark Williams is out of Duke, a center been in
the League three years and is he athletic yes? Is
he what you would call an elite rim protector? No
good defender? Yes, guess what.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Here's the good news.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
And a little over two hundred games during his NBA career,
he's playing about eighty five of them. He's been sixty
percent of the games. He does good worker around the rim,
And again I'm a little baffled. The Lakers are high
on that. But to imply that getting getting Mark Williams
(13:08):
replaces Anthony Davis, Nah, I'm not buying it. I'm not
buying it. So there's a whole lot more. We're gonna
get to all of it. But we got to talk
a little Super Bowl as well coming up because we've
got the legend Bill Crackman Krackenberger. He'll join us in
a minute here and he'll take it behind the scenes
here in Vegas. As to what's going on super Bowl
weekends is always a heater. And look, it's interesting because
(13:32):
right now the most popular bet involves around Sequon Barkley,
not the game itself. I'm telling you this is a
weird one, and I'm an ass crack man. I think
the handle's gonna dip from what it's been in previous years,
and there's multiple reasons for that, but regardless, it's still
gonna be crazy. Hey, football fans, be sure to tune
into Fox Sports Radio Saturday morning beginning at nine am

All right back in the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Coming to your line from the tarrac dot com studios
here in Las Vegas. We take you back out to
Las Vegas. That's welcome and a gentleman, an absolute legend,
respected nationally, internationally, revered in Las Vegas, with the greatest
handicappers of all time, and an all around expert when
it comes to Las Vegas, among other things. My good
(14:55):
buddy Bill Crackman, Crackenberger crack I always appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Stand up late, Bud.
Speaker 6 (15:01):
Oh, no problem, Bernie. And this is actually going to
be a couple of late nights here back to back,
probably back to back to back. So it's been an
all week here. Pretty surprised out here in Vegas. I
didn't expect to have so many bets early in the week,
usually betting my overs early when the lines come up,
(15:22):
which was like last Thursday in Vegas here, and betting
my unders more towards game time, especially Marquis teams in
a big matchup here looking to bet some unders. Probably
on day of the game Sunday, I'll probably have about
sixty about sixty percent of my bets will be going
in on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
Correct question for you. I have never seen a line
this tight. A Super Bowl line has never closed to
pick them. Full disclosure, I fired on the Chiefs a
few days ago minus one I see from Philly money
coming in.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
I saw the game go to a pick. I went
to fire around at a pick, couldn't get it.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
I'm gonna wait as this line continues to move, what
do you expected to close on Sunday?
Speaker 7 (16:10):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (16:11):
It's you know again, we've never seen a Super Bowl
game pick, but it's just a very interesting line movement here,
two way action, your thoughts.
Speaker 6 (16:19):
As we speak right here, eleven twenty four pm, Vegas time,
Friday night, Westgate minus a dollar ten on Kansas City,
South Point minus a dollar ten on Kansas City. So
right now there are two pick ems in Las Vegas
on the money line. You have to go over the
money line section of the line if you want to.
(16:41):
You can actually lay one on both games. Of course,
you're not gonna lay one with those sportsbooks. If you're
gonna beet Kansas City, you're gonna lay the pick them.
So I guess I expect that money here in town.
I've been hearing about it. You know, this line was
plus one and a half minus five juice the South
Point just literally forty eight hours ago, and now down
(17:03):
to a pick kind of surprises me. That would happen
so fast. I expected it more on Sunday though. I
don't see this game closing Philadelphia being a one point favorite,
but you never know. You never know, and these are
not dead numbers with the overtime rule, you know the
one you know if a team goes to overtime and
someone scores seven, the game.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
Is not over.
Speaker 6 (17:25):
The other team gets a chance to four and they're
probably going to go for two points because there's a
forty percent chance the other team getsvold and drives down
and gets a field goal, so analytics will come into play.
I would think taking the one point or the one
and a half. Like I actually did hedge a little bit.
I have some big futures on Kansas City and I
(17:47):
actually did bet Kansas City money line. I thought I
was getting ahead of the curb. I found the Kansas
City minus one fifteen. I didn't see this game coming
down to pick them when I bet the game that
the night of the NFC NAFC Championship games, deciding who
was going to be in the Super Bowl for rare time,
but they're going to beat me on the line for
a couple of cents. But that is when you have
(18:10):
a big matchup like this.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
I gotta tell you, pick the minus one ten is
the best I've seen. Maybe I'm not paying attention. Even
when I saw a touch pick them, I saw minus
one twenty five and such.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
But that's a story for a different day.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
Crack I followed sort of the betting action and is
we all know the vast majority of the action is
going to come in in the next forty eight hours
right for the game.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
But even be that as it.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
May, it feels like the total handle for Super Bowl
fifty nine, everybody.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Loves to call Super Bowl licks.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
The bottom line is we may have a lower handle
than we had last year, which would be the first
time we dipped in a while.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
Your thoughts on that, If.
Speaker 6 (18:55):
There is any type of a bet I can make
on a lower handle, it would be my largest bed
of the Super Bowl spot on spot on you know,
I'm about to put a I'll put it up tomorrow
morning on Twitter, every pretty active Twitter space. I just
cut a piece of my podcast which was so back midweek,
about three days ago, and I actually said during the podcast,
(19:20):
I said, listen, I've been around these casinos the last week.
It's that there's nobody here. It was you could have
ran a Sherman Tanks or the Cosmo, and you wouldn't
have hit nobody. Like I said, what's going on here?
It's like the column before the storm. Maybe, or maybe
it's just that Vegas finally outpriced itself with these ridiculous fees,
(19:41):
room rates, price gouging. People just may be sick and
tired of it, or maybe the economy doesn't usually, you know,
show itself in Las Vegas, you know, during times of
recessions and stuff. We're one of the things that are
recession proof is gambling. But I don't know. They may
have finally facing a bear market here, a credit card
(20:05):
that is an all time high. People always find money
to gamble, and they take chances with gambling when they
are faced with unburdened and decision making.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
But I'll just tell you I.
Speaker 6 (20:17):
Have seen it even tonight.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
There's no way.
Speaker 6 (20:20):
There's just no way they're going to get the crowds
that they did in previous Super Bowls at Friday night.
The places aren't packed. So I think they've outpriced themselves
and and people are And then again there's gambling in
like thirty eight states. But yeah, yeah, there is this
gambling a lot of states.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
I get that.
Speaker 6 (20:41):
But we've had this gambling thing now for eight years. Uh,
you know, nationwide, this legalized gambling draft King Fandules MGM seizears,
we've had this nationwide gambling and uh, I just haven't
seen the slow the drop off period like I did
from this year or so from last year to this year.
(21:02):
So yeah, I don't think I really don't think that
we're gonna touch anything near. Like I said when you
first asked me, my biggest bet in the Super Bowl
would be lower handle than ever, probably well not than ever,
because right it just hits the population.
Speaker 8 (21:16):
Then last year, I mean.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Well, he made a lot of great points and I
live here and I've made some of the same observations.
And you know, we're coming up in May the seven
year anniversary of PASPA, so you can bet legally in
thirty eight states. Out of a slightly different take, I
want to run by you. This is a rematch from
two years ago. I don't think people are that jiggy
about this rematch. And I know that we keep hearing
(21:39):
about Chiefs fatigue, like we heard about New England Patriots fatigue,
and we heard about Buffalo Bill's fatigue in the early
nineties and they never even.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Won a Super Bowl. They just went to four of them.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
I'm wondering how much this matchup Crack has affected the
enthusiasm as opposed to if it'd been saying like a
Detroit Buffalo or some thing along those lines.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
Your thoughts.
Speaker 6 (22:02):
I'm sure you're right. I'm sure Detroit Buffalo would be
a little bit of a bigger super Bowl. I understand
people are maybe be tired of seeing Kansas City, but hey,
Detroit Buffalo. All those teams, I'll even say Washington, Houston,
they all had their chances. They couldn't They couldn't close.
Speaker 9 (22:22):
A DC always be closing, they couldn't close.
Speaker 6 (22:26):
The two teams that are here got here because of merit,
because of closing power. I know people are saying, yeah,
but crack, Kansas City gets all the calls.
Speaker 10 (22:37):
Well, I'll tell you.
Speaker 6 (22:38):
What if that's the case, why is everyone complaining Just
bet on Kansas City every game. I'll tell you what
this this this super Bowl really will be officiated. Well,
there's going to be the the nation's eyes is going
to be going to be on these guys to make
sure that uh you know, they're they're making the right
calls and New York's involved, and and I'll just tell
you know there was bad calls the Buffalo, and case
(23:00):
there was bad calls against Buffalo. I mean you know
that that weren't called on Buffalo too, So it went
two ways. Just that people just looked for reasons.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
Why they lost.
Speaker 11 (23:10):
Why did I lose?
Speaker 6 (23:11):
Well, it happened the rest.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
The zebra got me.
Speaker 7 (23:13):
This guy got Listen.
Speaker 6 (23:15):
You never just look into the mirror and say what,
I just picked their own team.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
It's my fault, that's right.
Speaker 6 (23:20):
Everyone thinks they only look at each side of the game.
They bet two different guys can look at the game
and watch the game together, and both guys can make
cases why their team should have won. It's the old story.
Our eyes play tricks on us, and people are all
of a sudden looking for reasons, and they say, oh,
I didn't lose, that I got unlucky. And then they
(23:41):
used the biggest three letter word in the sportsbook industry.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Yeah, it makes my teeth itch. I did a lengthy
fifteen minute commentary on this last week. It's nothing more
than a loser's lament. The Bills had plenty of chances
to win the game, so missed me with the loser's
lament and the rest and conspiracy theory, history repeats itself.
There's always a convergence of factors. You look at the
(24:04):
chiefs and their leadership, their decision making, their execution, their
situational awareness. They're the way their confidence, the way they
continue to repeatedly perform in high leverage situations. It's a
loser's lament. One of the things I want to talk
about Crack is the gaga craziness. People are continuing to
(24:25):
bet on props. Full disclosure, I'm not a prop guy.
I know plenty of people. My buddied physical have probably
seventy five prop bets to me, a lot of more
like needle in a haystack, shooting babies at the moon.
One guy bet five thousand on the coin toss at
bat MGM, let's start there. This just shows you how
people want action and it's an instant payout, and that'll
(24:47):
put eyes on the game. What props. I respect you,
and if you like a prop, it's going to cause
me to take a serious look at it. Do any
of them really catch your eye?
Speaker 6 (24:56):
Let's burning It's real simple. I've been making my living
betting props on NFL for years. It's real simple though.
Here you can come to the Vegas right now and
dump out as much money on the counter as you
can want.
Speaker 7 (25:09):
To bet on the side.
Speaker 6 (25:10):
They're gonna book it. They're gonna take it on the game. However,
if I want to bet on a prop bet, I'm
lucky if I get two grand, and by the way,
two thousands. That usual number. Two thousand dollars they are
taking on props here in town when the Westgate. When
we lined up at the Westgate to make bets last week,
it's the old fashioned lottery they have here in town.
At the West Gate, you get two max bets, go
(25:31):
to the back of the line. Had about twenty pros
there in line. I bet Barkley. I couldn't I found it.
I thought I was not going to find a couple
bets because MGM fan Dual DraftKings, Caesars, they all put
lines out literally the night of the championship games. So
it was a pretty efficient prop market by the time
Thursday rolled around, and I was really surprised to find
(25:53):
like nine to ten bets at the Westgate that night.
Usually I'm going to find overs, Like I said, earlier
in the week. I actually found it under that I
really like. And guess what, people listening here, You're still
gonna be able to find this number the day of
the game because the public's gonna come in and they're
gonna be betting over on Barkley props. I bet under
barkley longest rush twenty five and a half yards.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
Exactly right.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
We'll hold that thought. Ye Steve Spagnolo, who's the only
defensive coordinator in history at the NFL to win four
Super Bowls, He's not going to design a defense to
jam Barkley at the line of scrimmage and compromise the
second level his linebackers would be. He'll have gap integrity
and Barkley may breakoff a few six seven eight yard runs,
(26:38):
but they're not gonna let him do what he did
against Washington. That is the best prop bet on the
board that I saw, and I can't lie.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
I bet a half a unit on it.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
And the other thing is I bet I had Barkley
under one hundred and sixteen yards. I think they're gonna
make I think they're going to put him in a
vice and try to make the Eagles play left handed.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
But still it's theoretical. Your point to.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
Props is outstanding because if you can get information like
during the NFL draft, right, then you're putting the book
at a disadvantage. They have no real advantage over you. Anyway,
continue on with your prop thought.
Speaker 6 (27:10):
No, I was just saying, you know, we only look
at the games from week to week, and you just
remember what happened last week. So my big thing is,
I know, when as soon as he touched the ball
last week first time, you know, he had an unbelievable
run of like sixty yards for a touchdown. So people
remember that and they're like, oh, man, twenty four and
(27:32):
a half, twenty five and a half yard. Of course
he's going to do that at least one store in
the game. So that's why they put that line up there.
Like I said, I think by you know, day of
the game here, I think we're going to find that
number again. I see twenty four and a half out there.
Now I see twenty five and a half under a
dollar nineteen. But I just I like to bet against
(27:52):
the public, So I'm going to bet against the marquee names.
I'm going to be betting under on yards for Barkley
under on longest rush. I'm looking to bet under some
of the Marquis players. I bet under on Mahomes rush
attempts multiple times. I actually bet that at the win
under seven and a half minus fifty seven and a
half minus. I even laid a dollar radio us on
(28:14):
lay a dollar radio on props. I have bet onnder
six and a half minus twenty six and a half
minus fifty I bet thinks so many times. I don't
even know how much money I have. I'm bucker. I
was looking tonight before I jumped on the show. Bucker
over one and a half veh goals. I bet minus
twenty five three times minus thirty twice minus thirty five
(28:35):
once of Saint Jesus. I got almost you know, I
got a lot of money on this. Five figures on
a prop.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
But that's a good one.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
But Butker over seven and a half kicking points minus
one thirty. I want to jump in and there's one
other bet I'm going to fire on. You can still
get it. I think at twenty three and a half
the second half under. Do you know in the Chiefs
in their last forty games their second half unders going
(29:02):
thirty one and nine.
Speaker 6 (29:04):
No, I didn't know that, and it's because there's total,
the second half total, the.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Second half total under yeah bet and under second half
total going under thirty one and nine in the last
forty games. Because you've got a defensive coordinator that's a genius.
But you got a pretty good one in Vic Fangie
over in Philadelphia as well, who's also won a Super
Bowl or bet in a Super Bowl. So I think
you'll see second half adjustments and I wouldn't be surprised
(29:28):
if the second half one under. To me, that's a
logical bet, not just some you know, will there be
an interception in the end zone? Bet one hundred to
win one thousand? Those those drive me nuts. You got
the last word, crack.
Speaker 12 (29:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (29:41):
You know, most of the pros think this game is
gonna have a slow start and actually think the second
half is gonna have more points score than the first half.
And our buddy Steve m mutual buddy, Steve Feick, he
actually liked the over second half. So it's gonna be
head to head Bernie versus Fez. I love it on
the second half. I didn't get a chance to bet
that one, But you make a good point how they
(30:02):
can make adjustments halftime.
Speaker 4 (30:05):
Very good point.
Speaker 6 (30:06):
And that's what makes this type of a big game,
marquee game that hard to handicap. Here you have two
guys that are professionals that live, die, sleep, eat and
drink this game and both on opposite sides of this
this type of bet. But that's what makes it a big,
strong game here. That's the reason why you don't want
to over bet your bankroll. I know it's exciting, I
(30:27):
know it's a big game. Everyone's excited, they're going to
be all in. You still should only go of the
maximum of two to three percent each bet of your bankroll.
So if you have ten thousand dollars, that's right, ten
thousand dollars just dedicated for sports betting. The most should
be bet is two hundred dollars per play. But I
know my guys back East, my guys in Philly, my
(30:47):
guys in New York, Washington, the Holy East Coast, Detroit,
we're all so aggressive, we all grew up a little
bit crazy.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
We're going all in.
Speaker 6 (30:55):
We got a thousand dollars. Every penny of that bankroll
is going in on the game. It's called Gambler's ruin.
R U I N I understand people have to have
action box pools. You got housewives, gambling, everyone involved.
Speaker 7 (31:10):
I get it.
Speaker 11 (31:10):
I get it.
Speaker 6 (31:11):
Just try to have a safe time, responsible time. My
people in Philly, take it easy. I know you're gonna
tear down the city though if the Philadelfi your losers,
but I think you're going to tear it down to
Philadelf your wins, So that's right. Be careful, Please be
safe and responsible.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Just a final thought, because I believe in betting, there
are technical factors in the math. You have to start
with the math. Is there what I believe for fundamental
factors as well. Vic Fangio runs a style of defense.
It centers around living in big plays all right, and
most modern defensive schemes that Fangio has presided over are
(31:46):
going to force a quarterback to be methodical and throw
underneath which Pat Macomes will take.
Speaker 12 (31:51):
That.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
He'll take that, He'll take what the defense gives him.
He'll be the master of the surgical passing drive. They're
gonna eat clock and two clock. One thing to watch.
Watch how many possessions each team has and add it
up at the end of the game. I bet it'll
be less possessions in this Super Bowl than the last two.
Just something to watch and that favors to me a
(32:12):
second and under and again I'll be the first to
admit it's all theoretical crap. I appreciate you, Bud. We'll
talk again soon. Thanks so much for coming on.
Speaker 6 (32:21):
Very good, excellent job, Bernie.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
I love your talk you lator.
Speaker 6 (32:25):
Thanks, good luck everyone.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
Thanks.
Speaker 2 (32:27):

(33:29):
outstanding thoughts on.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
We'll set that up. Coming up. I'm Bernie Frida.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
We're comingy live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio
Tarrac dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
All right, back at the Bernie Frattle Show, Foxsports Radio.
Come to live from the Tarrat dot Com studios here
in Las Vegas.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
We are twelve minutes away.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Hey, get ready, callers, You've done a fantastic job. Looking
forward to tonight eight seven, seven nine nine six six
three six nine eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
We want to hear from you. All right, So what
are our three topics tonight? I kind of like these
a lot. Actually the first one? Should Super Bowl Monday
(34:17):
finally be a national holiday? What if I told you
a record twenty three million Americans planned to skip work
on Super Bowl Monday, according to a recent survey from
a human resource company. By the way, more than half
of those skipping Monday are taking a pre approved day off.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
They've already asked for it off.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
Well, they're really fifteen percent are just gonna call in sick,
you know, all that drill goes, and another twenty percent
are simply going to ghost work. But we are finding
year after year after year announce up to forty six percent.
Forty six percent of American support making Super Bowl Monday
on national holiday. And by the way, some municipalities have
(35:00):
I've already stepped up and done some of this. Remember
three years ago when the Bengals played the Rams in
twenty twenty two, I believe that was Super Bowl fifty six.
Cincinnati public schools canceled classes the day after the Bengals played.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
Now this year to New Jersey. School districts near Philadelphia
have said, well, schools get to open up two hours
late on Monday to give students a chance to sleep in.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
So you might call that progress, but we want to
hear from you. Should Super Bowl Monday be a national
holiday eight seven seven nine nine six six three six
nine eight seven seven nine ninth on Fox and ten minutes. Yes,
from where I sit here in Las Vegas, it will
(35:45):
literally be twelve midnight, perhaps literally twelve midnight where you're at,
which certainly figuredly twelve midnight. You've got the last laugh.
That's what the Midnight Hour means. Our second topic, did
Eli Manning gets snubbed in the Hall of Fame. Now
he's going to be a Hall of Famer someday. Although
(36:06):
there is one other quarterback with two Super Bowls, Jim Plunkin,
He's not in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
Right.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
The biggest obstacle that voter said they had would they
never really considered him to be the best player at
his position for a chunk of his career. But remember
it's called the Hall of Fame, famy fame, and I
believe I'll do some top of my head that that
fame is is is defined as you know, notable achievements
(36:36):
that allow you, you know, attention because of your notable
of achievement.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
Notable achievements. Well, he beat Tom Brady and Bill Belichick
twice on the biggest stage. That's not Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
I understand voters were not happy about the fact that
Eli was basically one hundred. He was a five hundred
quarterback one and seventeen games, lost one hundred and seventeen games.
But he also joined a terrible team in the New
York Giants. But what if I told you dan Founce
was only two games over five hundred his entire career.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Warren Moon was only one game over five hundred his
entire career.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
Neither even made it to the Super Bowl, much less
win one, much less win two.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Matter of fact, I like it.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
I like Warren Moon. He never even made it to
a conference championship game. But guess what, both Dan Founce
and Warren Moon were each first ballot Hall of Famers.
And I know that Manning takes a lot of you know,
crap for just maybe his body language and facial expressions
and the fact that he wasn't considered the best of
(37:42):
his position.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
Well, I guess not.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
Okay, played the same era as his brother Peyton, the
same era as Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers,
and he was a four time Pro Bowl selection, but
never an All Pro because the All Pro Award is
a stats award. That's why Lamar Jackson won the All
Pro Award and the Pro Bowl or the MVPs about
(38:06):
the story when that's the reason Josh Allen won. Get
over it, people. So anyway, that's our second topic. Our
third topic was all right, the lebron or check that
the Luca for Anthony Davis trade turned the world upside down,
not just the basketball world, the world. And until he's
(38:27):
knuckleheads to get on the floor and play a game together,
it's still looked at until Monday.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
It's gonna this is.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
Gonna be a story all year, no matter what happens.
Here's the question will it work? Will it be impactful?
And my definition is will it work? They got to
get to the NBA Finals. They've already been to the
conference finals. They did that twenty twenty three. They already
done that. Lakers have actually already won a championship in
the Lebron era. Yeah it was a bubble one, but
they won it. So forget the story, forget the fallout,
(38:54):
forget the opinions, forget the craziness. Is that the Dallas
fans are just really upset with co Harrison. Is it
gonna work?
Speaker 3 (39:02):
So?
Speaker 2 (39:02):
Topic one? Super Bowl Monday? Should it be a national holiday?
Topic two? Did Eli Manning get snubbed the Hall of Fame?
And topic number three? Okay, You're gonna never stop hearing
about Luca and Lebron for probably forever.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
But will it work? Will it be impactful?
Speaker 2 (39:19):
Eight seven seven nine nine, six six three six nine
eight seven seven ninety nine. On Fox, we call it
the midnight Hour. The callers are the stars of the
midnight hour. You never let me down. That's blowed up tonight? Well,
super Bowl? Should super Bowl Monday be a holiday? Will
Luca and Lebron work? And did Eli Manning get snubbed
(39:42):
for the NFL Hall of Fame? Does he deserve to
be in regardless of its first ballot? Eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox, let's hear from me. It's the
midnight hour. Keep it locked.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
You're listening to the Bernie Fradler Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Show. Keeps.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
My name is Bernie Frowner. We are comedy lion from
the tech dot com studios here in Las Vegas.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
Fox dot Com. Well we get there, don match selection,
fast free shipping for your work, hazard protection for ten thousand,
recommending the starars dot com the way tire buying should
be three sets? Uh will never make it? Should they
ever make Super Bowl Monday a national holiday? Did Eli
(40:29):
Manning get snugged? And will Lebron and Luca work? Yeah?
Without further ado, it's in that hour.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
Hey, nine six six three six nine eight seven seven,
it's here from me. The coin has been spectacular. Looking
forward to what you've got to say tonight, we begin
with Massachusetts leading us. Jim, welcome back, and buddy are
you hey?
Speaker 4 (40:53):
How's it going? Bernie?
Speaker 13 (40:54):
Uh?
Speaker 14 (40:55):
First of all, I think h Eli will get I
don't think you'll ever make.
Speaker 4 (40:59):
It to the whole.
Speaker 14 (41:00):
I don't know what gets the guys. Hey, he got
the two Super Bowls. He won them one of the
wild cut you know, on the road, playing all playoff
games in the road, then gets into the Super Bowl
and beats an undefeated team, and they're going to keep
him out.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
Well, here's stand the line. Stand the line. Well, I
think some people get jiggy about he doesn't deserve to
go in on the first ballot when guys like Gerrick
Allen and waiting nineteen years of Jared Allen.
Speaker 3 (41:27):
Here's the point.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
There have only been twelve quarterbacks that have won two
Super Bowls, one still playing Patrick Mahomes. The only other
one besides besides Eli who's not in is Jim Plunking.
And I'm not sure why they're all in.
Speaker 14 (41:41):
So anyway, continue on, Yeah, and the other thing is
is that, you know, making Monday a holidays for a
sports events? Now, now what does that say about himeric?
You get up and you go to work. That's what
makes America great. That's why everyone wants to come in.
That's why everyone wants to come is. But to work
(42:01):
is to make a pedal life. And now you gotta
tell me, I you to take the day off of
a football game. No, no, no, no holiday and get
to work?
Speaker 4 (42:11):
All right?
Speaker 14 (42:12):
And what was the third one?
Speaker 4 (42:13):
Again?
Speaker 3 (42:14):
Well, Luca and Lebron, will it work?
Speaker 14 (42:18):
They're gonna they're gonna go together like a Bologian who
cream saying, which you can forget that. I don't think
that's gonna work.
Speaker 3 (42:25):
Amount there's gonna fall show real quickly because I want
to get to their calls.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
But I can tell you where I think it's gonna
fall shot. But I want to hear what you think
it's gonna fall short?
Speaker 14 (42:35):
Yeah, it's gonna fall short. And I think I think Lebron,
you know, you might even ask for a trade or
might say something about getting riddle Luke's holiday is that
they you know, it's just a soap oper out there
in La So you gotta leave it at that. Until
they straighten out that problem, they're not gonna be going anywhere.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
All right, Thanks a lotch you.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
I appreciate it, not to lead the witness, but look,
they're both ball dominant players. Uh, neither one. You know,
Bron brons Old. Now he's forty and he's he can
play defense once in a while. Luca can't guard a
park car and that's gonna be a problem for the
Lakers in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
I just think it's be a big problem.
Speaker 2 (43:10):
Uh, James in Los Angeles, you might have some thoughts
about that, but let's start with will super Bowl Monday?
Speaker 3 (43:15):
Should it?
Speaker 13 (43:16):
Will?
Speaker 3 (43:16):
Will it will? Should it? And will it ever be
a holiday? What's up?
Speaker 4 (43:21):
Berdie?
Speaker 15 (43:21):
How you doing?
Speaker 6 (43:21):
Brother?
Speaker 3 (43:22):
Good? James? Thank you, sir?
Speaker 15 (43:24):
Yeah? Yeah, uh sure?
Speaker 3 (43:26):
Why not?
Speaker 4 (43:27):
Man?
Speaker 15 (43:27):
I mean we're America. We try to set the senters
of stuff.
Speaker 16 (43:31):
You know.
Speaker 12 (43:31):
Super Bowl has always been in front of our passion.
Speaker 4 (43:36):
I know baseball was there for a long time.
Speaker 15 (43:38):
But the Monday after Super Bowl it was hungover, it
was fired. Reason why not?
Speaker 6 (43:44):
Finally wouldn't do it?
Speaker 15 (43:45):
You know, I'm an American just like the last guy say,
but we weren't harded. We because of Rocco League. Man,
God's bless America. What do you take it off when
we want to? You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 3 (43:56):
Well, you can be sure people are doing.
Speaker 7 (43:58):
That now, yeah, yeah, yeah, you know that anyway.
Speaker 15 (44:03):
You know, hey, I see who the reason why we
can't make a Holidays all.
Speaker 2 (44:07):
Right, he's you're here there in Los Angeles, James is,
Luca and Lebron gonna work.
Speaker 15 (44:13):
Well, person, I want to talk about Eli, please go ahead,
thank you. Yeah, yeah, I think he like got lucky tway.
But the fact that you've got that mad saying, and
they did explay the Giant two times. I don't think
it's the Hall of Famous. But I remember the guy
in Mississippi, and he was he you know, he's just
(44:36):
comeback player, and you know, you know all about Vegas Bernie,
so sometimes you know, he always covered for me whatever
I want of the recovery came in.
Speaker 4 (44:47):
So it started me to hate the guy.
Speaker 15 (44:49):
I'm bian you know what, if I had money of
the line, he came in money line for him. So
I love the guy. I love. I love Elst So
I'm not gonna say he's bad, but it if I
wasn't bad, he or anything, I would say no, as
far as uh letcus go mad my men, my men,
then well the idea I'm still coming out that baby.
(45:11):
You know you might agree with me. They did this
for the future.
Speaker 3 (45:17):
That's an excellent point.
Speaker 7 (45:18):
I believe they looked at.
Speaker 15 (45:21):
A D and said, are we gonna win with the team?
Speaker 4 (45:24):
You know?
Speaker 15 (45:25):
So they treated him lucause you know it will be
letting the cornerstone for the next five to ten years.
Speaker 6 (45:31):
Uh.
Speaker 15 (45:32):
I think that if you asked me.
Speaker 12 (45:34):
Two or three years ago when I trained looking.
Speaker 15 (45:36):
For a D, I would say hell no to the way, Uh,
a D is proven Lucas not. AD's got a championship
at Kentucky and he got one.
Speaker 4 (45:47):
With the Lakers.
Speaker 7 (45:48):
Now you may not count him.
Speaker 15 (45:50):
But like I tell everybody, they raised his hands, they
raised the dedicator. You know, a guy that l A
is always right. We said, the centers of the country.
That's what I'm like that baby, that's what we do,
and I'll take them. I think the summer brons wants
(46:12):
all he might be going up day anything I want
to do with what what Bronni?
Speaker 17 (46:17):
So he has the reasons day you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (46:21):
Oh, I appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
James would have bringing man good stuff is always enjoy
your weekend, Humberto and San Diego. We've missed you for
a few weeks in Berto, but you were back.
Speaker 17 (46:30):
Oh yes, come Burne movie. Listen, Bernie. The way things
are going in this in in the country lately, Will
I wouldn't be surprised. Next year, the day after the
super Bowl it will be a holiday. I wouldn't be surprised.
Speaker 2 (46:47):
That's a joke, right, because I think next year it's
played a week later and it's the next day's President's
Day If I'm not mistaken, right, or is it one
of these years coming up, that's what's gonna happen.
Speaker 17 (46:58):
Yeah, because they're gonna put in the eighteen game.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
Well, that's a conversation for a different day. The players
union is resisting it, and Goodell won't try to implement
until they negotiate a new uh uh, you know, collective
bargain agreement. But anyway, let's the standpoint in my man
is is Lebron, And okay, you can start anywhere you want,
most guys start.
Speaker 17 (47:19):
With Listen, listen. They gave in to Lebron. They gave it,
They got his son, they gave everything he wanted. I
believe the trade was made for him to leave La
in the in the next year because Lucas gonna find out.
He's gonna find out in La if you win, people
(47:40):
love you, Okay, even if you don't. If you show
up and do your job and the Dodger showed up,
that's a winning town. So I think it's gonna change
the mindset of Luca. Get in shape, and if he
wins Lebron or with Lebron, he's gonna own the city.
He could never do that in Dallas, never, So I
(48:01):
think it was a great move. They're gonna do good
this year, but the movie is to push Lebron out.
I think that's that's what I think.
Speaker 2 (48:10):
Well, I think what James said. It's it's more of
a long term decision. He's only twenty five. Finally, umberto
Eli Manning.
Speaker 17 (48:19):
No Gilbert, Gilbertmberto. Regarding Eli Manning, the only times he
led the league was three times three years he led
the league in interceptions.
Speaker 4 (48:33):
That's all he did.
Speaker 17 (48:35):
He's an average quarterback. And I agree with you when
you mentioned it, because every time Eli Maney's conversation comes up,
I bring up in Plunket.
Speaker 2 (48:44):
Well, look it's in Berto, great stuff. Appreciate you man.
It's coming down to this. Manning is at Hall of
Fame moments. You can't deny that won two super Bowls,
but maybe not a Hall of Fame career. But a
little later on the show, I'm gonna compare his numbers
to Joe name its Broadway, Joseph Hall, and he won
one super Bowl, maybe the most important one of all time.
So there's a case for re life. But I respect
(49:05):
everybody's opinion. Blind Scott and Boston, welcome back in.
Speaker 3 (49:08):
How are you?
Speaker 18 (49:09):
Oh hey, Bernie. Yeah, it's great to be on the show.
Ready for the questions. He's a really good, good question.
I thought James had some really good points. That was
a great call by James. He was yelling so loud
he was on speakerphone though I have syndrome. I had
to turn my hearing aide like way up to him.
Speaker 7 (49:28):
So let's go.
Speaker 18 (49:28):
Let's do with the questions.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
Well, let's start with let's start with should Super Bowl
Monday be a national holiday?
Speaker 3 (49:33):
Will they ever do that?
Speaker 18 (49:36):
Well, Uh, it's a democracy here in the United States,
so they let the people vote for it.
Speaker 17 (49:40):
But I'm a pinion.
Speaker 2 (49:42):
There's nothing to vote on. I mean they'd have to congress.
It would have to do someone would have to write
a referendum.
Speaker 18 (49:49):
It's another closed day in the stock market. You can't
afford to close the Star. I'm a stock you can't close.
Speaker 7 (49:56):
Enough.
Speaker 2 (49:56):
Let's go to the next topic. Luca and Lebron. Now
you're in Boston. I got to think you have some
interest in this. You know, Boston in la Is that
gonna work? That marriage is gonna work?
Speaker 4 (50:07):
Well?
Speaker 18 (50:07):
I would have Luca on my team if he was
drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette while he was
playing basketball. He carried the whole Dallas Mavericks team to
the finals last year, right, so.
Speaker 2 (50:17):
Like, but when you combined him with Lebron, who's ball
dominant and used to be in the Star, is this
gonna work?
Speaker 7 (50:24):
Well?
Speaker 18 (50:25):
It depends.
Speaker 4 (50:26):
Like what happened.
Speaker 18 (50:26):
We don't know what happened with Luca Bolt. That's the thing.
We don't know why Luca left Dallas.
Speaker 3 (50:30):
Like, well, he's I think it's GM. I don't know,
if you've heard my opening monologue. I think it's GM.
Somewhere along the line.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
He's just got in his car and bugged and me.
He says, I'm not doing this anymore. One last thing, Scott,
your thoughts on Peyton or check. I checked at Eli Manning.
Speaker 18 (50:47):
Well, I really don't care what they do with this guy.
I listened to wf An all the time, and I
just you know, Eli Manny, he he made so much money,
his faces everywhere, like, just put him in the Hall
of Fame.
Speaker 12 (50:58):
Jim Punkett, he's in the hall.
Speaker 3 (51:00):
Right like he has a no he Jim Plunkett's not.
Speaker 2 (51:04):
And he's the only other quarterback with two Super Bowls
not in other than Mahomes who's still playing.
Speaker 18 (51:08):
We'll put Jim Punkett and Eli Manning in the Hall
of Fame at the same time.
Speaker 3 (51:12):
It's all fair enough, fair enough.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
I see where're going with that, all right, Blin. I
appreciate you checking in blind Sky. We got a lot
of callers, and I really want to get to all
of them and squeeze one more in here. Mike and Modesto,
you're up next.
Speaker 19 (51:24):
What's up, Bernie?
Speaker 17 (51:25):
I do man Hey, I'm doing good.
Speaker 19 (51:28):
Manning first, he played with great defenses, but he's still
got two Super Bowls.
Speaker 8 (51:35):
I'll let him in.
Speaker 19 (51:36):
I'll let him in. Laker Fan, I think I think
they pulled one over a great trade young player and
it gives him a future. They were a team with
old lebron anthy Davis could never be the cornerstone. Luca
could be the cornerstone to draw more players with him
because everybody loves the guy that can get you the
(51:57):
ball and score points. Great move for the Lakers. As
far as a holiday, stupid. We we got super holidays,
so why not everybody gets together for the Super Bowl,
stays up late and joyce the game and watch in
the future. Got Patrick Mahomes this year. By the way,
Patrick Mahomes could never say I had a daddy named
(52:19):
Eli Manning. The fact that Auberny has to live with that.
I love the guy.
Speaker 3 (52:25):
He did beat that dynasty twice.
Speaker 19 (52:27):
Go ahead, So so yeah, I'm for the holiday, all right, Bernie?
Speaker 2 (52:31):
All right, thanks Mike, good stuff. Ver He's concise. Uh Tony, Kyle,
Greg and Cutt in Kansas City. You are all up next.
Speaker 3 (52:39):
Don't go anywhere I want to hear from all of you.
Speaker 2 (52:42):
I'm Bernie Frattle Company line from the Las Vegas Fox
Sports Radio uh tyrack dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (52:47):
Keep it locker it here. It's the midnight hour. He
listened to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (52:52):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search sr to
listen live.
Speaker 2 (53:03):
All right back as the Bernie Frattle Shield Fox Sports Radio.
The midnight hour is off and running eight seven, seven,
nine to nine on Fox. Callers have been great, The
calls keep coming in, and I want to get to
all of you.
Speaker 3 (53:15):
Be patient.
Speaker 2 (53:16):
I want to hear what you all got to say.
And we go to Miami. Tony joins us. Next day, Tony, what's.
Speaker 3 (53:22):
Up, buddy?
Speaker 4 (53:23):
Hey, what's going on?
Speaker 7 (53:24):
Bernie? I the first one with the national holiday? Huh,
I'm fine. Maybe with Saturday that kind of be like
a late night Saturday game, like at ten o'clock instead
of the sixth, and just you know, like Sunday would
be the hangover day. Just so you know my real quick.
(53:44):
My brother works at a movie theater chain as manager.
They're actually acknowledging the Super Bowl like they're not scheduling
as it's Christmas Eve, like anything past seven pm the
entire chain. So there, that's the first I've heard of that.
So movie. You know, they're not showing anything at eight, nine,
ten eleven, you know, the rest of the night as
(54:06):
the Super bowls on. You know they do that twice
a year.
Speaker 4 (54:09):
So you.
Speaker 3 (54:14):
Don't want to order. I don't care.
Speaker 7 (54:15):
I no, no, I I the Hall of things to
subjective for my blood. I leave that alone. But I
would like to get into the juicy here. Americans for
some reason have deep anesia because from what I remember,
two and a half weeks ago or less than that,
were we talking about how absolutely atrocious and unwatchable product
(54:40):
of what the NBA's turned into is. Yes, yes, somehow
we're going to put Luka Doncic on the Lakers and
all of a sudden watching and I'm sorry, that's a
I mean that that's a big fat nothing burger with
the side of coal onion rings, in my opinion. So
(55:00):
I answer your question, are they going to win? I think?
Or are they going to succeed?
Speaker 4 (55:06):
I think.
Speaker 7 (55:07):
I think they're going to succeed about as much as
when Anthony Davison and Lebron got there. They might win
another Plastic Trophy and an AAU tournament. You know, if
there's another pandemic in three years, fire.
Speaker 3 (55:22):
That I thought you had Fireman. And by the way,
you bring up an excellent point.
Speaker 2 (55:26):
In no way am I meant to imply that the
Luca acquisition is gonna, you know, all of a sudden
vault the NBA ratings through the roof. But I have
to see what's gonna happen here. You see what I'm saying.
It's like Tyson.
Speaker 3 (55:41):
Biting the year. I paid to watch it because I
didn't want to hear about it the water cooler on Monday.
So you got the last word, Tony. Go ahead.
Speaker 7 (55:48):
Oh no, I just I think at the end of
the day, the NBA has so many other problems. It
would sound exciting if brought that physicality. You can hit
Luke and hurt him, but it's physical with the.
Speaker 3 (56:07):
Rules, right, they got they got.
Speaker 14 (56:09):
To change a lot of stuff up.
Speaker 7 (56:10):
You got to get these out there playing Lee out
of the eighty two. At least nobody cares. Nobody cares
for it, and I know it's a job too. But
outside of that, I love, I used to love the NBA.
Nobody cares anymore. That's Scott Love your take last week
when you went through the history of all the greats
Sadley I don't think Luca oly LeBrock, for that matter,
(56:34):
really belonged to any of that discussion.
Speaker 2 (56:36):
Great stuff, man, and justified irrelevant specifics. I appreciate a
lot of meat on the bone there, Joy. Your weekend convicts.
Speaker 3 (56:42):
What's up, Bud?
Speaker 4 (56:44):
What's up? Burning was going on? Man? So first off,
let's get a writing too it. So you know, super
Bowl day after. We talked about this last year, and
I've said that last year, and it should not be
a holiday. We just wanted an excuse for all the
lameness that comes along with being.
Speaker 6 (57:02):
Drunk after.
Speaker 4 (57:06):
Of America.
Speaker 20 (57:08):
You got to have a day off in order to
be able to watch the super Bowl the day before,
get drunk the day before, didn't watch super Bowl, then.
Speaker 4 (57:15):
Go to work on Monday. That's how I look at
that one.
Speaker 3 (57:20):
You sound like an employer.
Speaker 20 (57:23):
Doing anything beforehand. You know, you bring the bottle to
the club, you don't. You don't go buy a bottle
at the club, you get drunk before you go. But
second thing, Year's two thousand and four. Eli Manning gets
drafted What's his.
Speaker 4 (57:38):
Way Out of San Diego? A gy by the name
of Philip Rivers Ghosts has a remarkable career. There did
he win any championships? No, Eli Manning seven and nine,
only time that I've ever seen a team with a
losing record make it into a wildcard weekend and actually
go on the road to win. Does it make him
a great quarterback? Personally? Have done more with his accolades.
(58:01):
His receivers are what made him if he didn't have
those receivers or those tremendous catches or those spectacular catches.
Speaker 3 (58:10):
But here, because they called the Hall of Fame, and
fame is this is defined as you know.
Speaker 4 (58:15):
He's not famous, he's the least famous. Hooper Manning is
more famous than him.
Speaker 3 (58:20):
Okay, beat Brady twice? Style, he beat Brady twice.
Speaker 4 (58:25):
Hey, listen, listen. Every dog out of their day. Some
days to win, some days to lose.
Speaker 3 (58:29):
So fair enough.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
And you see the best part about this segment is
when people disagree, because when everybody agrees, it's boring. Right,
So I said, I accept your point, so no holiday,
hell with it, And Eli nah Man, let's get to
Luke and Lebron.
Speaker 7 (58:46):
Let's get to that.
Speaker 4 (58:47):
Because you know, the NBA, the nothing but league, is
pretty much trying to figure out a way to entice
people to watch their game again and their product to get.
Is this for a championship team today? No, it is
for a championship team next year? Maybe so, But this
is more of a money grab for this good old
city of Las Vegas because now the odds are in
(59:09):
the favor and the money is pouring in for the
Lakers to make the playoffs, win the championship, and guess
what when when they fall flat on their face, everybody's
gonna be all, this wasn't working. This is this was
the most horrible trade. Well, you couldn't coach a boy,
your boys getting up and down in the league. Now
you got another young man that you could probably mentor slash,
coach and father. So yeah, he's gonna father him, he's
(59:32):
gonna son him, he's gonna put him under his wing.
Are they gonna win anything? Nah?
Speaker 12 (59:36):
Not?
Speaker 9 (59:36):
This here a bergon.
Speaker 3 (59:37):
I'm an agreement, Kyle. I'm in agreement. This is strong stuff.
Appreciates Kyle.
Speaker 2 (59:41):
That's what we do to midnight hour, strong opinions. We
don't have to always agree. But the thing that all
the callers do, I'm very appreciative. And Kyle just did You're.
Speaker 3 (59:52):
Gonna bring a take you're gonna, you know, you're gonna.
Speaker 2 (59:54):
You're gonna have a reason behind why you say what
you said, not just because outstanding Greg in Texas.
Speaker 3 (01:00:02):
You're up next. Your thoughts on these three subjects, Well.
Speaker 18 (01:00:06):
Here you go.
Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
As far as Super Bowl Holiday, you know, forty years ago,
I've been off for it because Scott Noldwood's miss Fieldgal
didn't go wide right, it went wide high. I was
laying down sideways. I need some help on that one.
Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
So I'm saying, no, no, right, get your ass up,
go to work.
Speaker 4 (01:00:35):
Yeah, you're right about that. I did.
Speaker 20 (01:00:37):
I didn't work very hard, but I was there.
Speaker 4 (01:00:40):
We knew it. As far as the ELI, you know,
I think she'll get in and he should get in.
Speaker 7 (01:00:47):
Not a first time ballot.
Speaker 4 (01:00:49):
He's actually his fame to me is based on three
overthrown passes made by incredible athletic catches. I mean, I
know it's more than that, but as far as his
two rings, that's where they came from. Now he'll get in,
(01:01:09):
so I don't really have a problem with that, right, Okay,
Now getting to lu soon. As I'm from Dallas, I
might have an opinion. I've seen Luca play no defense
for five years, six years, whatever it is.
Speaker 3 (01:01:26):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (01:01:27):
I've seen him complain. I clean that up about every
call he doesn't get every time he dries okay, and
he doesn't realize and somebody had to tell him, dude,
don't complain. You might get those calls later on. Okay. Now,
what I want to know is what's going to happen
(01:01:48):
with eight seconds left on the shot clock with Lebron
and Luca out there, Who's going to get them all?
Speaker 8 (01:01:53):
Who's going to do what?
Speaker 2 (01:01:55):
Well, that's a superb point. And here's what I don't
thanks a lot, Greg got standing stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:02:00):
Here's the beauty.
Speaker 2 (01:02:02):
If the Lakers win the game, Lebron will take credit,
and if the Lakers lose the game, Lebron wi blame Luca.
Speaker 3 (01:02:07):
That's what they'll do. That's that's my take tonight, folks.
Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
You've been a great audience. Let's go out to Kansas City.
We're joined by Klutt in Kansas City, join the Frank
Gott How.
Speaker 4 (01:02:16):
Are you man?
Speaker 11 (01:02:17):
I'm doing pretty good?
Speaker 18 (01:02:18):
How about you?
Speaker 3 (01:02:19):
Buddy good Sir?
Speaker 4 (01:02:20):
Hey Man?
Speaker 11 (01:02:21):
Thank you? Of course, you know I always compliment you.
I love your bumper music. It's the best anyway.
Speaker 3 (01:02:27):
Motown baby Motown. Is it go ahead?
Speaker 17 (01:02:30):
Why on?
Speaker 11 (01:02:32):
Okay? As for Lebron and Luca, that's kind of easy
for me because, look, man, I have no reason to
be a Lebron fan other than the fact that two
of my team's titles, the Spurs, came off of him,
So I'm good with him.
Speaker 3 (01:02:46):
But but.
Speaker 4 (01:02:49):
I do believe that it will If it works, it
will work because Luca.
Speaker 11 (01:02:53):
Grows up and Lebron's high basketball IQ. If it works,
it'll be because of that. But working will all be.
That's going to be relative. It'll be relative to how
you see the game of basketball and it working together.
And as for the last caller, like the last caller
said at the end of the game, who's gonna do
(01:03:15):
what If it's a shot, I won't look. If it's
a drive to the basket, I won't Lebron, So I
think that that's the way that will go.
Speaker 4 (01:03:22):
Now.
Speaker 11 (01:03:22):
Off of that, As for I'm a small business owner,
so having a day off of my employees, I don't
have a problem with that. I do think it would
really say something about America though, if you have the
day off Monday because a game went off at the
times that it goes off during the day, Man, you
can't make it to work the next day.
Speaker 6 (01:03:43):
Shame on you for that.
Speaker 18 (01:03:45):
So you know I don't care.
Speaker 11 (01:03:47):
Either neither here nor there. And when it comes to
Eli Manning, the man's record is one seventeen and one seventeen.
Nobody talks about him in the regular seat. His touching
down to interception ratio over his time in the league
is pretty terrible if you look at that.
Speaker 21 (01:04:09):
I do believe that he should have a little section.
Speaker 11 (01:04:13):
Not him, but the New York Giants should have a
little section where it is mentioned that tom Brady's some
of two of his best teams lost to the New
York Giants. But to me, he's not a Hall of
Famer in any way, shape or form period. The only
reason why it matters is to he be Tom Brady.
Speaker 8 (01:04:33):
Number two, he played in New York and oh yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:04:36):
I'm sorry number three.
Speaker 11 (01:04:37):
He has this really specially loved You're nailing it.
Speaker 2 (01:04:40):
I can't disagree with any of your bullet points. I
can't outstanding stuff. Cut appreciate you man, strong stuff, and
Cut's pretty fair there. As an employer, I think he's
basically saying, look, if you're going to show up to
work in half assed.
Speaker 3 (01:04:53):
You might as well take the day off.
Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
You're gonna only one. I'll play ball. You got to
go along to get along. That's a smart boss, Alan,
And Saint Louis, you're up next.
Speaker 10 (01:05:02):
Welcome sir, Well, good morning, good night, Bernie.
Speaker 3 (01:05:06):
How you doing good sir? Thank you.
Speaker 10 (01:05:09):
I don't really enjoy these callers. Everybody is actually making.
Speaker 3 (01:05:13):
Good points the great calls Gurth of us.
Speaker 10 (01:05:15):
Far as the super Bowl Monday being a holiday, I
disagree with it. First of all, we got another holiday
in two weeks, we got President's Day. You know, if
everything were perfect, the super Bowl would be the day
before President's Day. Then it would be an argument. But
the thing about it is, let's face it. What is
the main reason people want Monday to be a holiday
(01:05:37):
because a lot of people can't get up and go
to work the next morning.
Speaker 3 (01:05:40):
That's right.
Speaker 10 (01:05:41):
If that's the case, make the day after Saint Patrick's
Day a holiday too, well.
Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
Saint Patty's Day is a de facto holiday, so they
probably want to go back to back.
Speaker 3 (01:05:52):
But you bring up a great point. Okay, give me
your thoughts on Lebron versus Luca. Is it going to work?
Speaker 21 (01:05:56):
Alan?
Speaker 10 (01:05:58):
I think it's going to work, because, let's face the
Luca trade was basically made for the postal Lebrin era.
Lucas twenty five years old, he's got thirty five, so
this is not a trade.
Speaker 2 (01:06:11):
Well, that's exactly right. But you're exactly right, and I
just want to get these other callers. But you make
an excellent point, which I completely agree with. But while
they are together on the floor, do you expect.
Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
It to work?
Speaker 10 (01:06:23):
I think it's going to work. The question is what
are people versions of work?
Speaker 14 (01:06:28):
You know?
Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
My definitions is they don't get to the NBA finals,
they don't have to win it. But then to get
to the NBA finals, they didn't work.
Speaker 10 (01:06:35):
But they're not better. They're not better than Oklahoma City.
Speaker 3 (01:06:38):
No, hell no, and thank you.
Speaker 10 (01:06:41):
So the thing about it is, regardless of what they do,
you know, they aren't going to be Oklahoma City, and
they're afraid of Denver. And as far as Luca and
will Lebrian being both ball dominant, didn't we hear that
when Luca, when Kyrie Irvin came to Dallas, that they
were both ball dominant and.
Speaker 2 (01:06:59):
They were, yes, and they made it work. They made
they at least got to the finals. And they were
overmatched against against Boston. If we talked about Eli, I
want to make sure it gets to all the calls.
You're doing great down but uh Eli.
Speaker 10 (01:07:11):
And let's face it, if his name wasn't Manning, I
don't think people would be it be, this wouldn't be
a conversation. He's going to get in, And I think
there are a lot of voters who just feel that
being the first ballot Hall of Famer it's really special.
And I think that that there's a lot of voters
are thinking, well, you know, he's going to get in,
(01:07:33):
but he doesn't deserve the first first time ballot. And
I think I think that's the main that's the main,
just of the voters who didn't put him in, so
he's going to get in. So and I think the
fact that he works for a major network, his brother
works for the network, and his daddy is Archie. I
think that's just the sentiment is a little different.
Speaker 18 (01:07:52):
Take care Burnie, hey man.
Speaker 2 (01:07:53):
That's that's great stuff. Man, Hang on and listen to
what I got to say, because you make a great point.
Just to set the record straight, Michael Strahan didn't get
in the first ballot. Neither did Chris Carter or Terrell
Owens or John Randall, lots of people have it. So
just a conversational talking point. Excellent points. Stephen Kansas City,
Here have next, buddy.
Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (01:08:11):
Ernie?
Speaker 21 (01:08:11):
Happy super Bowl weekend? Betty?
Speaker 3 (01:08:14):
Back at you man?
Speaker 21 (01:08:15):
Alrighty, We're gonna need a national holiday once Spag sets down,
Tae Kwon Barkley. I think a lot of people are
going to be surprised Spagnolo has the has the voodoo
to shut him to at least I.
Speaker 2 (01:08:29):
Bet the underud his on his rushing yards. So they're
gonna need a holiday. Go to Eli Manning, uh whatever
or not.
Speaker 21 (01:08:38):
I think Eli's a little bit overexposed. There's something to
the first.
Speaker 14 (01:08:41):
Ballot Hall of Fame statisfier.
Speaker 21 (01:08:44):
I'm fine with that.
Speaker 4 (01:08:47):
You know.
Speaker 21 (01:08:48):
The fascinating thing is.
Speaker 14 (01:08:49):
About uh Luca and Lebron.
Speaker 21 (01:08:53):
Lebron's going to be playing with someone who's a better
player than he is for the first time in his
career since he's played no high So I think it's
I think it's gonna be I think it's gonna be great.
I think I think it's it's gonna be something very
is to reference to previous caller. It's gonna be more
(01:09:13):
it's gonna make.
Speaker 14 (01:09:14):
The NBA more more interesting.
Speaker 21 (01:09:17):
Whether I think Luca is going to get so much
better as a player because he's gonna have to step
up his step up his game. Lebron is extremely disciplined
with this.
Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
Yeah, I think that's fair. Lebron hold him mcconnabal. I
think Lebron will do his best to hold him acconnabal.
Speaker 4 (01:09:36):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
Great stuff is always Steve appreciates you. And by the way,
I believe your chiefs are gonna win. I absolutely believe
they're gonna win. And I've already met him. So there
is that, my friend. Uh, we are going to get
to all you. Please don't go away. Thanks for your patients.
Christopher North, Carolina, Brock and Alberta, Bryce and Texas. You
are all up next in that order.
Speaker 3 (01:09:59):
I'm Bernie Frattle.
Speaker 2 (01:10:00):
It's the midnight hour or come to the line from
the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Tarack dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (01:10:05):
Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Frattles Show
on Fox Sports Radio. All right back on the Bernie
Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio, coming to life from the
Tarack dot Com studios. Here in Las Vegas.
Speaker 2 (01:10:16):
The Mennight Hour is rocking and rolling, and we continue
with Christopher in North Carolina. Christopher, welcome, in which topic
would you like to start with?
Speaker 8 (01:10:28):
Let's start with us man?
Speaker 3 (01:10:31):
Okay, all right, go ahead? Yep.
Speaker 4 (01:10:35):
John L.
Speaker 8 (01:10:37):
Lay from Denver, well a one time Super Bowl owner,
but had massive statistics.
Speaker 3 (01:10:44):
Twice. He went back to that before, not to correct you,
but go ahead.
Speaker 8 (01:10:51):
I apologize based on the fact that it looks like
the NFL goes through ebbs and flows of either statistics
over name or statistics in super bowls.
Speaker 12 (01:11:01):
It seems to be right now that.
Speaker 8 (01:11:03):
It's on the basis of one. They don't like the
banning attitude that he had in the NFL. He's going
to get in, Well, what if it's a second or
third ballot. Hey, I like to get in. If I
got in a second or third ballot, who cares I'm in?
Speaker 2 (01:11:19):
And that's actually pretty much the attitude. He's been very
pragmatic about it, just as you were. And by the way,
to all the callers we've called standalone here Christopher, we
got two more topics. Look about one twenty am Pacific
time for twenty Eastern. I'm going to have some thoughts
in commentary on Eli Manning to give this some perspective
and compare him to maybe one of the most famous
(01:11:40):
quarterbacks of all time. Who's in And you don't do
agree with me, but I think it will make you think.
All right, what's your the second topic where you.
Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
Want to go next?
Speaker 8 (01:11:48):
Bud Well, Let's talk about the NBA. Okay, is it
going to improve the Lakers defense?
Speaker 3 (01:11:56):
No?
Speaker 15 (01:11:57):
Is it going to.
Speaker 8 (01:11:58):
Improve the Lakers ability to play a better team?
Speaker 14 (01:12:03):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:12:04):
So who cares?
Speaker 8 (01:12:06):
I haven't cared about the NBA since the nineties. There's
editions and the magic. I mean the Lakers and Boston.
Nobody cares why because burning all they do is throw
up threes.
Speaker 20 (01:12:20):
This isn't a league of.
Speaker 8 (01:12:22):
Caring about the quality of the game. It's probably two pointers?
Speaker 4 (01:12:26):
Can you shoot?
Speaker 8 (01:12:27):
And the result is too many.
Speaker 12 (01:12:29):
The fans don't care.
Speaker 8 (01:12:30):
They don't care until after Christmas. They don't care until
the playoffs. Nobody cares. So what's going to make any difference.
It's just trying to get the Lakers to be recognized
as something again, to have somebody watch.
Speaker 4 (01:12:44):
I don't care.
Speaker 8 (01:12:45):
I'm still not going to care, not until the fire.
Speaker 2 (01:12:48):
Yes, I got you man, all right, the national holiday?
Should the super Bowl Monday be a national holiday?
Speaker 4 (01:12:57):
Well?
Speaker 8 (01:12:57):
Do they give the holiday when we have the a tournament?
Nobody's working?
Speaker 4 (01:13:01):
Then?
Speaker 3 (01:13:02):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
No, that's a good night, right right right, Yeah, that's fair.
I appreciate very pragmatic Christopher, well articulated Brock and Alberta
is back. Welcome back, Brock.
Speaker 22 (01:13:15):
All right, buddy, hey, Bernie, holds it going, Brothers, I
love the show and give.
Speaker 19 (01:13:18):
Up the great work.
Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
Bro Thank you start where you'd like. Let's start with
the super Bowl since that's his weekd national holiday Monday?
Speaker 3 (01:13:25):
Yes or no?
Speaker 22 (01:13:26):
No, I disagree with that.
Speaker 4 (01:13:28):
I think.
Speaker 22 (01:13:28):
I mean, I know exactly the reason why they want
making a holiday. The reason why they want making a
holiday is because Patrick Mahomes has been winning every year
and they think every year is gonna be the same result.
And they haven't said this ever before, So I mean,
I think that's absolutely foolish.
Speaker 3 (01:13:42):
All right, did Helie man and get snubbed or not?
Speaker 4 (01:13:45):
No?
Speaker 22 (01:13:46):
I don't think he's Hall of Fame not right now.
That's like saying that Kevin durantson the Goat Debate because
he won two finals MVPs over Lebron.
Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
Really it's a fair that's a fair coaching point. And finally,
Luca and Lebron will it work?
Speaker 22 (01:14:01):
Yes, absolutely, I think absolutely because Luke is young and
I think Lebron's going to train them how to become
a great player. And think about the organization he's on.
He's on the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the two
great franchises in NBA history. And I mean, if if
Luke and Lebron can start winning, hey man, it's that's great.
Speaker 7 (01:14:18):
And it's right there.
Speaker 11 (01:14:19):
Brother.
Speaker 2 (01:14:20):
All right, thanks Brock, very concise, very direct. Appreciate that
we go down to Texas. Bryce joins us. Good morning,
good evening, Bryce, you're on, Bud.
Speaker 4 (01:14:31):
How's it going going well?
Speaker 3 (01:14:33):
Thank you.
Speaker 9 (01:14:35):
As far as the one day Super Bowl holiday, I
don't understand why the NFL doesn't just build their schedule
out to where.
Speaker 8 (01:14:44):
The super Bowl is the day before President's Day.
Speaker 2 (01:14:47):
Well, believe they're trying to do that. Hold that thought, Brock,
and believe it or not, it's either next year or
the year after.
Speaker 3 (01:14:52):
Check your calendar. It's easy to it's easy to google
because of the way the calendar ferret it out.
Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
There's going to be a super Bowl the day before
presidents stay in the last couple of years, and I
think Roger Goodell is hoping to go to the eighteenth
game in a second bye week and then they will
take care of itself.
Speaker 3 (01:15:09):
So you're onto something there.
Speaker 9 (01:15:11):
Well, or they could just start it later because with
the NCAA football being extended the way.
Speaker 13 (01:15:18):
It is, that way you have the National Championship Game
for college football Durren wild Card weekend instead of divisional realms,
and then you basically have the whole NFL playoffs to
themselves too.
Speaker 9 (01:15:30):
But anyway, yep, no, I don't think they got slubbed.
Speaker 4 (01:15:39):
I think the.
Speaker 9 (01:15:41):
The same reason why they're going to keep them pointing
out for the same reason they'll keep ELI out. I
have no idea, but whatever reason they have for keeping
them out is the reason they'll keep ELI out.
Speaker 2 (01:15:54):
Finally, Okay, fair enough, we'll just leave it there. I
think eventually get in, but we'll leave it there. And
then finally, Luca and Lebron. You're down there in Texas.
I don't know if you're a MAVs fan or not,
but do you think Luca and Lebron will work?
Speaker 7 (01:16:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (01:16:07):
I think they would work.
Speaker 13 (01:16:09):
I think something brought it up earlier, everybody thought that
Kyrie and Luca were going to be dynamite, and that
worked really really well.
Speaker 4 (01:16:18):
Yeah, And.
Speaker 9 (01:16:21):
I think Lebron wanted Luca to come and play. He's
been I'm rolling Luca to come play with him for
a long time, so there's already there to be conversation there.
So as long as Lucas can stay on the court,
I don't even think hisn or.
Speaker 7 (01:16:39):
Whatever is going to be that big of a deal.
Speaker 9 (01:16:41):
As long as you could just stay on the court
and play, I think this works well.
Speaker 3 (01:16:44):
All right, great, great call, Bryce. Look, and that's a factor.
Speaker 2 (01:16:49):
Luca hasn't played it since Christmas Day. He was supposed
to play Saturday.
Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
He's not. Looks like Lebron's out too. He's got arrest
at sore ankle when it did automatically gets sorry of
the pretty damn good at a night for Monday. So
we'll see what happens. Jerome and Charleston, my man, you
have the final word on these three topics tonight. Where
would you like to begin?
Speaker 12 (01:17:10):
As they say, if I could make it there, I
could make it anywhere. And Eli man his career as
an NFL quarterback, he has three hundred and sixty five turnovers,
two hundred and forty four interceptions, one hundred and twenty
five thumbs. Now you tell me you've got our Hall
of Fame quarterback. I'm just so sure gave one those
(01:17:32):
two both because defense in those two games played out fair.
Speaker 3 (01:17:37):
I accept that. I accept that.
Speaker 2 (01:17:38):
I want to make sure you get down at two
topics and so we don't bomb out here. Second topic, well,
Luke and Lebron work.
Speaker 12 (01:17:45):
Lebron James is one of the most unsharpest players in
the history NBA, so he don have to run to
play off the ball more in order for this to work.
Speaker 4 (01:17:53):
Okay, So that's the point.
Speaker 3 (01:17:57):
The last topic of Jerome Monday. Should Monday be a
super Bowl? No, go ahead, No, no, no, no.
Speaker 12 (01:18:05):
They've holidays for obermat some things that are very impactful
on our country.
Speaker 8 (01:18:11):
For a super Bowl practical.
Speaker 12 (01:18:14):
I'm a practical person.
Speaker 2 (01:18:16):
No, no, no, never, no no, no, jerm I appreciate
you man well prepared, brought receipts. I'm aware of some
of Eli Manning's less than savory statistics. But again, I
called the Hall of Fame, okay. And when you went
to Super Bowls and you beat Tom Brady twice and
(01:18:39):
he Jerome's not wrong. The defense had a hell of
a lot to do with that. So did Joe NAMA's
defense in Super Bowl three. So did you know Phil
Simms defense, So did Tom Brady's defense. And make no mistake,
Terry Bradshaw's defense, He's not wrong. So this is the
beauty of this segment. Is I like it when people
don't always agree. Some people say why not make it
a holiday? No, other people say no, he let it
(01:19:00):
can get snubb You ever say yes, he did. And
then of course some people think Lebron and Luca will work.
Other people don't. Every caller was outstanding.
Speaker 3 (01:19:07):
I appreciate it. You were prepared, you were thoughtful, and
you brought receipts. As I have said.
Speaker 2 (01:19:13):
So another outstanding edition of The Midnight Hour. And I
will have some thoughts on Eli coming up here in
about twenty five minutes, but in the meantime, keep it
locked up. Next Breeze three, It's Bernie Fraddle Show on
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:19:29):

Speaker 3 (01:20:11):
You see today's show. Tonight show posted right after we
get off. Yeah, time to talk some movies. It's set time.
Breeze three, not one.
Speaker 1 (01:20:22):
Not two, but three. It's entertainment. It's good. It's breeze three.
Speaker 3 (01:20:32):
Alrighty, take it away, alrighty.
Speaker 16 (01:20:34):
So a few storylines, obviously revolving around the Super Bowl,
have to do with either having like Chiefs fatigue or
the and or the Chiefs being kind of like the
villains in the NFL, which is hilarious but whatever. So
the first so I thought, like, what are some villains
in movies like who are the three best villains? So
I started off with kind of chalk. I went Heath
(01:20:56):
Ledger as a joker in the Dark Night. Obviously there
was some drama revolving around that because he locked himself
in a hotel room like a month before shooting and
had a diary and he like really really got into
the role and there was like some darkness kind of
revolving around that. And I know that came out after
his death. I think you guys that was like a
(01:21:16):
really big deal around that time.
Speaker 3 (01:21:18):
But they made a big deal about it. Yeah, I
believe he committed suicide.
Speaker 23 (01:21:22):
Correct, Yes, even Jack Nicholson made a comment about things.
Speaker 1 (01:21:25):
So it was pretty bad.
Speaker 3 (01:21:26):
He was a hell of a villain and that Batman
deal that was great.
Speaker 16 (01:21:29):
Yeah, so he was incredible. Kind of chilling a little bit.
Speaker 23 (01:21:32):
That was one of mine, So go ahead, Oh yeah, so.
Speaker 16 (01:21:34):
Kind of chilling though for sure, right definitely, So like
I can still watch that and kind of get like
a little lag goof and I but in a kind
of like a in a good way. So that was
my first one, and speaking of Jack Nicholson, that was
my second one in The Departed because yea, yeah, yeah, yeah,
So I thought he was incredible in that, and that
was and for just all together, just one of those
(01:21:56):
movies you can kind of only see like once or
twice a year. Very very dark movie. I always think
of like Taxied with like Taxi Driver with the one
The Departed, Like it's just like a it's kind.
Speaker 14 (01:22:08):
Of like a dark movie.
Speaker 23 (01:22:09):
You're very dark.
Speaker 3 (01:22:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 16 (01:22:10):
Yeah, So Jack Nicholson I thought was incredible on that.
I had those like really like facial expressions just like
really kind of creepy. I don't know, Bernie, if you
saw The Departed obviously kind of oh yeah, no.
Speaker 3 (01:22:20):
I saw it several times. Actually, big time.
Speaker 2 (01:22:25):
Ensemble cast with Alec Baldwin and and you know, Leonardo
DiCaprio and Ben Affleck.
Speaker 3 (01:22:30):
And Matt Demon and Jack Nicholson was just a really bad,
strange character in that movie.
Speaker 16 (01:22:36):
Kind of creepy also as well.
Speaker 23 (01:22:38):
It's hard to watch the end of that because of.
Speaker 3 (01:22:42):
That.
Speaker 23 (01:22:42):
I just hate that.
Speaker 16 (01:22:43):
That's what I'm saying, Like you can't watch it.
Speaker 7 (01:22:45):
I don't know.
Speaker 16 (01:22:45):
I just like I can't watch it more than like
once or twice a year, Like I don't know. Yeah,
So I don't know. So that's how I feel about
that so Jack Nicholson obviously it was great, and that one,
and then my final one, I'm in Denzel Washington in
Training Day just because I feel like you just like lose.
It's not Denzel Linze. Yeah, it's a totally different character. Obviously,
(01:23:07):
a really bad guy. Ethan Hawk is just like looking
at him like unbelievably, just like stares at him like
is this actually happening? And I think that's a really
big part in like being a villain, because you just
kind of look at them like, my gosh, is this
guy actually this evil? Is he actually this bad of
a guy And he's supposed to be a cop like
protecting everybody, but like he's not so just so supposed
(01:23:28):
to be like him. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:23:30):
So those are my three.
Speaker 16 (01:23:31):
I went Heath Ledger, Jack and Nicholson and Denzel Washington,
so Mark.
Speaker 23 (01:23:36):
All you so also I picked the Dark Knight, the
Joker Heath Ledger because I just thought he was mentally
not stable and just an evil criminal mind unhinged. Just
the way he went about his operation and just the
things he would think of in the interrogation room and
just him being just this evil, evil guy. My next
(01:24:00):
movie is Apocalypto and it was the Tribes Mel Gibson
movie and just the so it was about the Mayan tribe.
So the villain is the the Mayan tribe that did
the raid on their other villagers and just how they
just were doing nasty things to their other other other
(01:24:21):
parts of the tribe and where they were going to,
like the sacrifice people, and they were chasing the character
Jack Jaguar Pau through the jungle to get back to
his try to get back to his pregnant wife, and
just how evil they were overall in that movie, just
you know, invading the other tribe and just taking them
and making them prisoners and sacrificing some of them. So
(01:24:45):
that was Apocalypto. And then my third is The Revenant
with Tom Hardy's character John Fitzer. The Revenant has uh,
you know, Leonardo DiCaprio in it, and just with the
character did to Leonardo's character and just how overall just
(01:25:06):
me and just looking at that time of just being
you know, that that part of the world and just
the time period you know, guns and just you know,
the wilderness and it was just a hard, hard movie
to watch, very good movie and just the Tom Hardy
character was just so mean, so Dark Knight, Apocalypto and
(01:25:30):
The Revenant. How about you, Bernie?
Speaker 2 (01:25:32):
All right, So I when I think of movie villains,
I mean, they're not just bad guys, but they have
a key sort of effect on the plot and the
way they.
Speaker 3 (01:25:41):
Treat other people.
Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
And for me, the top of the list, and it's
been this way for a while is Alan Rickman is
Hans Gruber obviously in Diehard. Yeah, what a dastardly son
of a gun mean, you know, fearless, weird, psychotic, basically
psycho holding all those people hostages. So and Al said,
(01:26:03):
he just passed away not too long ago, and I'll
always be remembered for that role, even though he did
other movies. But the point is you looked at you
looked at in his eyes, and he acted this part.
It was like he had took pleasure in being a villain.
The second one is All Time or how you know
Anthony Hopkins and has Hannibal Lecter and Silence of the Lambs.
Speaker 3 (01:26:20):
Yeah, uh, come on, man, that that's a character. That's
a freak show character.
Speaker 2 (01:26:26):
One of the all Time villains, had the mask and
the whole deal and what what was the line he
ate somebody's heart out and drank it with a nice
bottle of Kianki or something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:26:37):
Faver beans, Yeah, yeah, yeah, you got it.
Speaker 2 (01:26:39):
So and then the last one is maybe the all
timer of all time. It's the movie I think they
really put Alfred Hitchcock on the map cycle. Anthony Perkins played.
Speaker 3 (01:26:47):
Norman Bates, and Norman Vates was come on the all
time villain with the you know with I'm not gonna
give any scenes away, the bottom line is, uh, he
I mean was talked about for weeks and months, and
as he played the role the way he just talked
to himself and was weird even when he wasn't around people.
Speaker 2 (01:27:06):
So Alan Rick and his Hans Gruber Hannibal Lecter in
the Silence of the Lambs played by Anthony Hopkins, and
then Norman Bates played by Anthony Perkins.
Speaker 23 (01:27:17):
Back to you guys, so, did you have any honorable
mentions that either one of you?
Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
I did not, because you start to go down a
slippery slope. I just figured that those three stuck out
to me in terms of just their incredible nefariousness and
their extreme role within the framework of the movie.
Speaker 23 (01:27:35):
Well, the ones that I thought about just because of
the topic and just thinking about bad guys in movies.
Gangs of New York, Bill The Butcher David Daniel day
lewis correct.
Speaker 2 (01:27:48):
That movie came out in two thousand and two, and unfortunately,
and my buddy Dave, one of my former radio partners,
raved about it.
Speaker 3 (01:27:56):
You said it was crazy. I guess it's crazy violent.
I can't act. You never saw it.
Speaker 23 (01:28:01):
And then another one is Taking of Pelham one, two,
three of the nineteen seventy four. It was Robert Shaw
who played mister Blue. He was the number one villain
of the group of villains in that and he was
really good. And I saw a list of other villains
and it was the Jaws was the villain, Like, yeah,
(01:28:23):
this shock was a big villain. So he was in
my honorable mention.
Speaker 3 (01:28:26):
He was, he was a captain.
Speaker 16 (01:28:28):
I just had a fade done away and mommy dearest,
that was okay, yeah, okay, because I feel like that's
just like also like a creepy, eerie movie and she's
supposed to be like the mom and it's just all creepy.
Speaker 3 (01:28:40):
Hell.
Speaker 16 (01:28:41):
Yes, So that was my honorable mention.
Speaker 1 (01:28:43):
Got it, got it all right?
Speaker 3 (01:28:45):
Good?
Speaker 2 (01:28:45):
Job all the way around, covered a lot of ground
as usual, and actually a lot of these villains played
by very big name stars, most of them, maybe not
all of them, but played by big name stars who
clearly had an impact. And probably a lot of these
movies that would you know, will stand the test of time,
but good, good villain stuff. By the way, Football fans,
(01:29:08):

the bad, the whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:29:45):
He's going to get in the Hall of Fame, okay,
And I will.
Speaker 2 (01:29:47):
Give you the reasons why I believe he didn't make
it in on first ballot and some of the reasons
people don't want him in, but also the reasons he
should be, especially when you compare him to other very
noteworthy quarters with big names, some who didn't even win
a Super Bowl, much less get to one.

half hours from Super Bowl fifty nine? Uh, spectacular midnight
hour tonight. Callers were great.
Speaker 2 (01:30:43):
One of the heavier topics, you know, the Lebron Lucas
not so much in the national holiday. Should Super Bowl
Monday be a national holiday? But people really got into
the ELI thing pretty good. And by the way, I
got a couple tweets truck stot Fungus said ELI should
be in the Hall of Fame currently ranks eleventh in completions,
passing yards, and touchdowns, but his five hundred record of
(01:31:04):
won seventeen and one seventeen isn't great. But he does
have two Super Bowl wins under him Timm He said, no,
he didn't get snubbed. Eli will make it eventually and rightfully,
so Brady Bully. I want to give some perspective, and
I'm gonna go a little deep here, and I think
I'm gonna cover a lot of ground.
Speaker 3 (01:31:20):
You may or may not agree, but I think I
will provoke some thought.
Speaker 2 (01:31:25):
And there are some aspects to Eli's career and I
think are noteworthy more than just the two Super Bowl wins.
Speaker 3 (01:31:33):
And I'm not mixed up. If his name was.
Speaker 2 (01:31:37):
Eli Kazinski or Eli Slovotnik, I don't know what you know.
He might not curry the same favor if he didn't
have the name Manning. But he did play in the
National Football League sixteen years. He spent his entire career
with one team, and while he was with the New
York Giants. Believe it or not, Eli did send a
lot of franchise records. His career completion percentage, yards per completion,
(01:32:02):
yards per attempt very close to the league averages during
his playing time, But his achievements in the postseason, particularly
his leadership of the two Super Bowl wins against the
heavily favored Patriots heavily favored significantly.
Speaker 3 (01:32:17):
Is the thing that bolstered his legacy. Now I get it.
Speaker 2 (01:32:21):
Manning started two hundred and thirty four NFL games. His
record was one seventeen and one seventeen.
Speaker 3 (01:32:28):
Hold that thought. I'm gonna come back to it later.
Speaker 2 (01:32:31):
He also had a completion percentage of sixty one percent
a passer rating of about eighty five. Those numbers don't
jump off the page. But have you ever heard of
a guy named Joe Namath who is in the Hall
of Fame? What if I told you that Joe Namath
was one game under five hundred in his NFL career.
He was sixty two and sixty three, had four ties.
(01:32:51):
His career completion percentage barely cracked fifty percent. It was
fifty point one, and he threw more interceptions than touchdowns.
He actually threw forty seven more interceptions in his career
than touchdowns two hundred and twenty interceptions one hundred and
seventy three touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (01:33:07):
But he's Joe Willie name for a reason. He beat Baltimore.
Speaker 2 (01:33:09):
They beat the Baltimore Colts, had seventeen point underdogs in
Super Bowl three and really solidified the Merger Hall of
Fame famous accomplishments. And by the way, before I go
into further should we give a nod and winking a
nod to the four people who made it into Canton
and were inducted. They'll be inducted this summer. None of
(01:33:32):
more quarterbacks, by the way, cornerback Eric Allen, who played
for the Raiders, I think he retired like in two
thousand and three, so he laited his turn. Defensive lineman
Jared Allen, who spent many years as a fierce edge
rusher for the Minnesota Vikings, who never won anything. Titaned
Antonio Gates, who some said might have even been a
(01:33:53):
better basketball player than football player. Was this spectacular, you know,
tight end for the and Diego Chargers for years. And
then a guy I've been waiting. I believe he deserved
it for a long time. Sterling Sharp. I gotta say
Sterling Sharp if you ever saw him in person, his
rock running, his concentration, his ability to secure the ball, spectacular, hands, tough, smart.
Speaker 3 (01:34:18):
I don't know who I compare him to today.
Speaker 2 (01:34:19):
He's because he was so mechanically it's on of like
five eleven, which means nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:34:24):
I can give you a list of a lot of
big guys who suck.
Speaker 2 (01:34:27):
He wasn't big. He didn't suck. He was outstanding, just
asked Brett Favre. Or actually he was before Brett Favre's time,
you know, Don mccoski, whoever. The truth of the matter is,
the guy was amazing. He was tremendous athlete, tremendous wide receiver,
real student to position. Sterling Sharp's ol Shannon Sharp's older brother.
(01:34:48):
So I believe Sterling Sharp is very well deserving and
I'm glad he got in. All right, let's get back
to Peyton Manning, because Peyton Manning Fordian slip. Let's get
back to Eli Manning. You have to make a case
for him. And there's an old thing. If you have
to make a case for somebody, well then people aren't
sure if she'd be in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (01:35:07):
But he beat Tom Brady twice. That's not nothing, Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:35:13):
Two incredible playoff runs, two Super Bowl wins over the
pats Oh also two Super Bowl MVPs, and I know
one of the callers talked about his numbers weren't great.
What if I told you Joe Nama didn't throw a
touchdown pass in Super Bowl three, didn't even complete a
pass in the fourth quarter of that game. But he's
in the Hall of Fame ELI, and he was in
(01:35:36):
the MVP two Super Bowl MVPs. ELI had not won two.
Some people try to pass him off, as you know
print Dil Trent del for Brad Johnson one of those guys.
Speaker 3 (01:35:45):
You know, No, he won two.
Speaker 2 (01:35:47):
There are some other GUDI stats also. Believe it or not,
Eli all top ten all time in passing yards. Fifty
seven thousand passing yards can change fifty seven thousand. Go
look at the list the guys who've thrown for more
than fifty touchdown three hundred and sixty six and when
he retired at the end of the twenty nineteen season.
(01:36:09):
There's one thing I left out, but maybe it should
have been put in.
Speaker 3 (01:36:11):
The top of the list.
Speaker 2 (01:36:12):
You heard me say that Eli Eli played sixteen years
and offered the same team, which I think is admirable.
Did miss a single game, not a single game in
his career because of injury. That's something, okay, But the
biggest obstacle, and this is this is for the people
who voted.
Speaker 3 (01:36:32):
Okay, I get it. I followed Eli Manning's career closely,
and I remember with his dad says he ain't going
to San Diego.
Speaker 2 (01:36:40):
And they pulled that deal off. They you know, they
pulled the same deal Jack Elway did for his son
back in eighty three. They did it in two, you know,
twenty years later. And I remember the draft was on
a Saturday morning and he ended up going to New York.
Speaker 3 (01:36:52):
Okay, but no one.
Speaker 2 (01:36:54):
Ever really talked him about being the best player at
his position anytime in his career. He did take down
Bill Belichick and Tom Brady twice, but otherwise you might
not say it was a Hall of Fame career. But
you can't just summarily dismiss that stat. I would have
(01:37:14):
voted for Manning. I'm just saying I would have he
beat the patch twice. Give Eli Manning some credit.
Speaker 3 (01:37:22):
With two minute drives being named super Bowl each MVPAG
time again all time, eleventh all time, and touchdown passes
in yardage, that's a fairly convincing case for me. All right.
I know that voters are always gonna say yeah, but
he was never all proved or he was never a
regular season MVP. And okay, well he was in the
(01:37:44):
same air as Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers,
Brett Favre.
Speaker 2 (01:37:50):
Pretty good company right now. I also mentioned that I
wouldn't voke the name of other quarterbacks. All right, you
heard it, said one of the callers said it, and
I've said it twice on the show. Eli's record was
five hundred. He won one hundred and seventeen games, lost
one hundred and seventeen games. He was exactly five hundred.
(01:38:11):
But I know you all think Dan Fous was a
tremendous quarterback. Never won a Super Bowl in his entire career.
Dan Founce was only two games over five hundred. I'm
a big Warren Moon fan. I think he was spectacular,
never won a Super Bowl. Warren Moon was only one
game over five hundred in his career. Neither Dan Fouts
(01:38:34):
nor Warren Moon even made it to a Super Bowl,
much less won a Super Bowl. In fact, Warren Moon
never even made it to a conference championship game. Not
only are Dan Founce and Warren Moon Hall of Famers.
They were each first ballot Hall of Famers. So if
you just want to make a statistics award, have at it.
(01:38:56):
And again you can get hung up on the act
at Manning was never mentioned as the best player at
disposition pretty much for his entire career while he was playing.
Guys like Peyton, were Brady Breeze.
Speaker 3 (01:39:11):
Farv, Aaron Rodgers, others. They were all playing during that
era as well. Four time Pro Bowl selection but never
an All Pro all right, And I know it doesn't
help that even Tony Romo was snuck in an All
Pro Award once. Cam Newton did once Carson Palmer. But
you may have seen my tweet earlier. I think the
All Pro Award is a stats award. The MVP is
(01:39:35):
a story award. Now, Eli was never a regular season MVP,
but he was a Super Bowl MVP twice.
Speaker 4 (01:39:43):
All Right.
Speaker 2 (01:39:44):
South pal Antonio, who's a Hall of Fame voter patriarch
at ESPN, had some pretty interesting comments. And here's a
guy that knows what it looks like inside the Ivory
Tower when the voters get together, and he said, quote,
there was a vigorous discussion about Eli's cannoncy. But to me,
Eli was absolutely a first ballot guy. He has a
lot of support to get into Canton, hopefully sooner rather
(01:40:08):
than later. Adam Schefter waded and said, I certainly believe
he deserves it based on what he accomplished to beat
the Patriots once. Okay, maybe, but to beat them twice
and including that undefeated team who was just trucking everybody.
Ask Ballichick how he feels. I think it's pretty clear
the time will Bewright Elile get in someday.
Speaker 11 (01:40:29):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:40:29):
Just because Eli did not get in in his first
go around doesn't mean he won't ultimately get in. As
a matter of fact, I think the consensus among the
voters was he's going to get in.
Speaker 3 (01:40:41):
They just didn't want to put him in on the
first ballot. Hall of Famer.
Speaker 2 (01:40:44):
By the way, he has to wait a year and
guess who's on the ballot next year. Drew Brees, fellow
quarterback Philip Rivers, wide receiver laryer I Fitzgerald, Jason Witten.
They're all eligible in ductees, and they're eligible for the
first time, so you may see all of them get in.
Speaker 3 (01:41:05):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:41:06):
You tell me if Drew Brees a first ballot Hall
of Famer, maybe because of his numbers. Anyone won in
Super Bowl, Philip vers, I can't say that. I cannot
say that at all.
Speaker 3 (01:41:15):
And he didn't win. Larry Fitzgerald, Yeah, I think he got.
Larry Fitzgerald reinvented the position from crying out loud. He
made an instant impact from his amenity set foot in
the league. Jason Witten.
Speaker 2 (01:41:28):
There'll be a debate, maybe maybe not, but that's who
Eli will be competing against next year. It then begs
the discussion whichever he People on our network say, look,
you're either a Hall of Famer or you're not a
Hall of Famer, whether you a first ballot or not,
that's overrated. But I think there are factors that go
into whether a voter is willing to give a first
(01:41:49):
ballot inductee different treatment regarding regardless of whether he's just
merely deserving of making the Hall of Fame or he
is special.
Speaker 3 (01:42:01):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:42:04):
I think part of it is competition that you're up
against that specific year that plays a part. They will
only elect four or five, six, seven, maybe eight members
each year, so there is a bit of a cutoff
and sometimes you get involved in bottlenecks because there are
too many players on the ballot. I don't know that'll
be the case last year, and I can't say that
(01:42:24):
would be the case this year. Jared Allen, Eric Allen, Fine,
maybe they deserve to be in, but I wouldn't think
he like, excuse me, it was blocked out because of that,
just saying, all right, next year, you got an offensive lineman,
you got a wide receiver, and you know, the truth
of the matter is, it's not easy to get in
(01:42:47):
the Hall of Fame, period, although they do let a
lot of NFL guys in. But Manning is not the
first noteworthy star to miss out on being a first
ballot Hall of.
Speaker 3 (01:42:58):
Famer's right hand. I don't think anybody could argue, period,
but he's not a Hall of Famer. He wasn't a
first ballot Hall of Famer, and he was the I
believe he was the single season sack leader when he retired.
Speaker 2 (01:43:14):
He took him his second try in twenty fourteen, and
he got in. Chris Carter, remember all he does is
score touchdowns. You didn't get in in the first try.
Took Terrell Owens forever to get in, and then defensive
lineman John Randall, who was a badass for those Minnesota
Vikings teams. He used to destroy the Lions back when
I was covering the Lions alongside Jared Allen. Took him
(01:43:38):
forever to get in.
Speaker 3 (01:43:38):
They had to wait.
Speaker 2 (01:43:41):
Another Manning comparison for Hall of Fame consideration, when you
combine super Bowl rings, and perhaps we'll call it statistical.
I don't want to see inconsistency, but statistical up and downedness,
if I can invince that your word. He compares to
another Raider quarterback who is in the Hall of Fame.
(01:44:06):
I'm not talking about Jim Plunkett, who's the only other
quarterback other than Patrick Mahomes is still playing.
Speaker 3 (01:44:12):
To win two Super Bowls but not be the Hall
of Fame. So who am I comparing Manning to? Got
the same number of Super Bowl rings?
Speaker 2 (01:44:21):
But maybe statistically didn't make you raise your eyebrow talking
about the snake Kenny Stabler. Now, Kenny Stabler really had
to wait a long time. As a matter of fact,
Kenny Stabler was not even inducted to the Pro Football
Hall of Fame until twenty sixteen, posthumously. After it all,
(01:44:43):
he passed away department of redundacy department, and that required
a senior committee selection after years of being passed over.
And if anybody saw Kenny Stabler play, what a leader?
What just the charisma, the style, the panache. He won
two Super Bowls and look good doing it, even though
and he planted it an era where quarterbacks didn't put
(01:45:05):
up massive mass statistics, but he won twice. Okay, Belichick
is Bill Belichick is also eligible for the first time
next year at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And
it's my understanding that he weighed in on the recent
(01:45:25):
Maning cast about this very subject. He said, quote, Eli,
you don't look that good in a hoodie, but you
will look great in a gold jacket. I'm sure that's
going to happen, and you deserve it so much. That's
graciously from Bill Belichick. Second wing as coach of all
time not only went to what seven Super Bowls with
(01:45:46):
Tom Brady, assisted Bill Parcells in winning too super bowls
in eighty seven and ninety one. Bill Parcells never won
a Super Bowl without Bill Belichick by his side. And
if you get that kind of endorse from Bill Belichick,
I think you're a good company. So do I think
Eli will get in. Yes, was he snubbed as a
(01:46:07):
first ballot Hall of Famer. It just depends on your perspective.
Speaker 3 (01:46:11):
And one of the earlier callers pointed out, this is
a very a very subjective situation having to do with
the Super Bowl or the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (01:46:23):
So in any way slice it. The voters have spoken.
At least for the class of twenty twenty five. ELI
will have to wait until next year.
Speaker 3 (01:46:37):
Coming up.
Speaker 2 (01:46:39):
Yes, it is a Super Bowl weekend, big time Super
Bowl weekend. You know, it's amazing how much fanfare is
now made over over the coin toss and the coin
toss bet. How the hell did this all start as usual?
I've got a story and you'll probably want to hear it.
Speaker 3 (01:47:00):
I think you'll get a kick.
Speaker 9 (01:47:01):
Out of it.
Speaker 2 (01:47:02):
And while we're at if we have a little time,
we'll start to take a look ahead at a little
quick super Bowl preview and some key matchups that I
think you're going to want to pay attention to.
Speaker 3 (01:47:14):
I'm Bernie Frattle.

(01:48:21):
All Right, You know, there's this big to do about
the coin flip. It's amazing how it's become an incredible thing.
In the Super Bowl. Of course, you can bet on
it right and believe it or not some fine individual
already at BETMGM bet.
Speaker 3 (01:48:37):
Five thousand on tails. How did all this happen?
Speaker 2 (01:48:42):
The Super Bowl coin toalk bet has actually a very
interesting history. I think it all started on January twentieth,
nineteen eighty five, now which significance Ronald Reagan was sworn
in as president for his beginning of his second term,
(01:49:03):
and a few hours later he was on TV flipping
a coin before Super Bowl nineteen. That's the one where
Joe Montana and the forty nine ers just completely rode
Dan Marino, who would never get back to the Super Bowl,
and the Miami Dolphins rode him like a stick horse.
(01:49:25):
And I remember that matchup was very much ballyhooed, and
there was a Pepsi commercial I think about a month later,
where Dan Marino and Joe Montana converged upon a coke
machine or pep PEPs machine and Montana reached into his
pocket and said I got this one, and Marino says
I got the next one. Okay, nice little plan. Words
(01:49:47):
never happened, But I'll tell you what did happen. Ronald
Reagan's coin flip came up tails, And if you ever
visit the Reagan Library in southern California. Apparently they have
a clip that's about ten minutes long that shows uh,
the President preparing for the coin toss from the White House.
(01:50:08):
Because it did it live on broadcast, well guess what
it caught on like wildfire.
Speaker 3 (01:50:15):
A few years later. The NFL wanted to capitalize on this,
because the NFL is all.
Speaker 2 (01:50:18):
About show business, and all they want to do is
show business and you know, you know, maximize anything else
they can. They tried to get NASA astronauts aboard their
Discovery to flip the coin. Unfortunately, the plans were kiboshed.
NASA aptly pointed out, how the hell's the coin gonna
(01:50:38):
flip when you're up in space and it's weightless. The
weightlessness of space would not allow you to flip a coin.
But the astronauts instead did a demonstration during the pregame
show where one of the Canadian astronauts held a coin
as her crew members spun her backwards and they eventually
flipped back the coin on Earth that it came up
heads both times.
Speaker 3 (01:50:59):
It was, you know, get thing.
Speaker 2 (01:51:01):
Then you remember in Super Bowl thirteen George Hallis had
a coin toss had a very unique twist because the
bear's owner was asked to flip a coin, a gold coin,
a collectible coin that he bought the year the league
started that was worth three hundred and eighteen thousand dollars.
He bought the coin back in nineteen twenty, the year
(01:51:23):
the league started, and it landed on heads Lady Liberty
facing up. He claimed the loser of the flip the
Steelers would get the coin, but he actually he actually
did it.
Speaker 3 (01:51:34):
He actually gave it to Jack Lambert for some reason.
It's only worth three thousand bucks today. There is a.
Speaker 2 (01:51:42):
Story of Marie Lombardi, Vince Lombardi's widow. She claimed she
had never flipped a coin before in her life, and
she practiced during rehearsal, but when it came game time,
went off without a hitch landed tails up, by the way.
Speaker 3 (01:52:01):
In nineteen eighty two, the first Super Bowl played in Detroit,
Super Bowl sixteen in which again that guy Joe Montana
and beat the Cincinnati Bengals, and I think it was
twenty twenty to sixteen whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:52:17):
They did a coin toss about two weeks prior to
the game to determine practice times inside the Pontiac silverdalm
the Bengals won on tails, and they said, we want
afternoon practices.
Speaker 3 (01:52:29):
The forty nine Ers, who well, they ended up winning
the game.
Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
They got stuck with morning practices, which allegedly really ticked
off their head coach Bill Walsh, who pointed out they'd
be practicing at seven thirty am their time and getting
up at what would be five am Pacific time. And
prior to the game, all Super Bowls they had been
played in warm weather cities and could practice outdoors simultaneously.
(01:52:53):
By the way, the actual coin toss, also tales, was
won by the forty nine ers as well, and they went.
Speaker 3 (01:52:58):
On to win the game.
Speaker 2 (01:52:59):
So the twoth of the matter is, as you can see,
there's a little creativity, there's a little goofiness, there's a
real attention brought to this coin flip toss. Now, for
my money, the Super Bowl coin toss is a dumb bet. Yeah,
there's a fifty to fifty chance you win. It's an
independent trial. It even if you do choose correctly, you know,
(01:53:23):
the sportsbooks still going to take their cut, even though
the biggest minus one oh five instead of the usual
one to ten. But you know why people like it
because I've told you a thousand times. People don't get
high winning the bet. They get high making the bet.
Whenever someone bets, especially in the NFL, it feeds their
competitive spirit, enhances of viewing, participation of.
Speaker 3 (01:53:44):
The game, and all that stuff. And so here you are.
The game hasn't even kicked off yet.
Speaker 2 (01:53:51):
Right off the bat, you've got a bet and it's
going to be settling about five seconds. And if you win,
most books will grade that right away if you can
collect your bet as the game is starting, So you're
a winner or a loser heading into the game.
Speaker 3 (01:54:08):
All right, it's not a great bet. In twenty twenty two, they.
Speaker 2 (01:54:13):
Had some staff members, i believe from a sports reporting
agency flip a replica coin seventeen hundred and fifty one times.
You're not gonna believe it. It came up heads eight
hundred and eighty two times and tails eight hundred and
sixty nine. That's fifty point four percent to forty nine
point six percent. So you don't get a statistical advantage.
(01:54:35):
You may think you do, but you don't.
Speaker 3 (01:54:37):
But people do it. Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:54:39):
It's just a way to kick the game off, get
the party started, and for my money, you know, And
it's fun.
Speaker 3 (01:54:46):
Okay, it's fun. It's a fun bet.
Speaker 2 (01:54:48):
If you win it, you're off and running. Uh and
and it's it's it's caught on for a reason. And
there's a reason it's caught on because people enjoy it.
Speaker 3 (01:54:59):
People have come.
Speaker 2 (01:55:00):
The NFL has come to make I think, quite a
quite a spectacle of it. And it works because we
all pay attention. You just kind of want to see
not only by the way, now, can you bet on
whether or not it'll come up heads or tails? You
can bet which team wins the bet? Right, all right,
let me dive into some Super Bowl pre thoughts that
(01:55:20):
I'll get into heavily on my Saturday night show.
Speaker 3 (01:55:23):
And I want to be fully transparent. I have already
fired on the Kansas City Chiefs. They have proven to.
Speaker 2 (01:55:32):
Me time and time again, no matter the situation, no
matter the opponent, even if their opponent is a better team.
And what we hear is that Philadelphia from an analytics perspective,
is a better team statistically, a better team.
Speaker 3 (01:55:48):
Has it mattered? Oh, by the way, they don't have Patrick.
Speaker 2 (01:55:50):
Mahomes, which Seaman's Patrick Mahomes. Holmes has championship DNA. Andy
Reid has Championship DNA. He's offensive genius, an offensive mastermind.
Steve Spagnolo is the only defensive coordinator in the history
of the National Football League to win for Super Bowls.
He's incredible, and I think you'll do some crazy things
(01:56:14):
on Sunday to perhaps confuse Philadelphia. At least at times,
you can make an argument that Steve Spagnolo, not Bill Belichick.
Steve Spagnolo is the best defensive qua coordinator.
Speaker 3 (01:56:25):
Of all time.
Speaker 2 (01:56:26):
I didn't even mention Travis Kelcey. He had a Hall
of Fame coach, a Hall of Fame quarterback, a Hall
of Fame tight end Championship DNA, and I'm back in
a quarterback has already won this damn game three times.
And when the heat gets hot, it's hard to breathe
in these high leverage moments you've seen.
Speaker 3 (01:56:45):
Lamar Jackson hasn't done it. Josh Allen hasn't done it.
Speaker 2 (01:56:48):
No one's done it like the Malmes not. I'll give
it to Brady, but Mahomes, he's not done yet. All Right,
Kansas City continuously plays its best football when it matters most,
when the situation demands greatness.
Speaker 3 (01:57:01):
Can Kansas City be great? Yes? They are, and it.
Speaker 2 (01:57:03):
Starts with Mahomes, who's now recorded seven playoff starts where
he's averaged an EPA of zero point five are better,
which is more than double the amount of any other
quarterback in NFL history. If you bet against the Chiefs,
good luck. Now, it's not guaranteed they got to.
Speaker 3 (01:57:22):
Play the game. But the truth of the matter is,
isn't it true that the Chiefs just scored a flip
a switch?
Speaker 2 (01:57:29):
When it's the postseason? I can't make a case while
that won't happen Sunday in New Orleans. One key matchup
to watch back to the aforementioned Steve Spagnola Eagles running
back Saquon Barkley versus the Chiefs defense, particularly defensive tackle
Chris Jones.
Speaker 3 (01:57:48):
Kansas City truly caught a break, but they.
Speaker 2 (01:57:50):
Took advantage of it when, for whatever reason, we're three
and a half minutes to go in Buffalo, they decided
to neglect James Cook on a critical drive in the
AFC Championship game. Cook was averaging almost seven yards of
carry that day. Now the Chiefs really have to worry
about Barkley. He's averaged one hundred and forty eight rushing
yards in the past three playoff games. Barkley has the speed,
(01:58:10):
the power to turn a two to three yard round
and do an explosive play. But here's the thing, gaining
extra yards against his bag Nola defense will be tough
against this most fundamentally sound defense in the league. Chris
Jones will do his job and they'll make it difficult
for them to block for Saquon Barkley, just the way
they did against Buffalo when it mattered most, even though
(01:58:32):
I think Buffalo made a mistake in the end, but
the Chiefs still took advantage of it.
Speaker 3 (01:58:36):
So there you have it. I like the Chiefs. We'll
talk about more Saturday night. It's going to do it
for the Bernie Fraddle Show. Keep it locked up next
The Fellas on Fox Sports Radio.
