Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is Straight Fire with Jason McIntyre.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
What is up straight firefam, It's me Jason McIntyre Street
Fire for Valentine's Day of Friday, February fourteenth. If you
are listening to this in the morning, there's still time.
Get to the grocery store, get the wife, the girlfriend,
the side piece, the jump up, whatever you got going on,

(00:31):
and get the lady something. You gotta deliver. Guys, even
if it's the thought that counts, I don't care what
it is. Even if it's you know, the last dozen rows,
Just get it, you know, put on the old credit card.
You gotta be nice. Anyways, Happy Valentine's Day to those
who celebrate, which kind of shortest should be everybody. We
have a fun Friday podcast ahead. We'll dabble into NBA

(00:55):
All Star Weekend. I'll tell you why I'm not super
stoked about it. Aaron Ron and the Jets officially broken up,
which should surprise nobody, happened early Thursday morning. And you know,
then we'll get into why there's no podcast next week.
We are taking a little hiatus. We'll talk about that
at the very end, but first we got to start.
I think we'll start with the Jets, right the official

(01:17):
Aaron Rodgers kiss off and say good night, good audios,
thank you for your service. If you are a Jets
fan listening to this, obviously you are super stoked. Although
I do have a cousin of mine who's a Jets fan,
and I'm on a text thread with him, but I'm
on at least four Jets text threads. This was after

(01:38):
the news broke about Rogers. I'm officially done with the
Jets a long thirty years. It's Tampa Bay Bucks for me.
Now what a dumpster fire that organization is? Okay? So yes,
the Jets organization is a dumpster fire that is undeniable.
They have the longest playoff drought in professional sports in America. Okay,
it's just ineptitude from the owner to the GM to

(01:59):
the coach, doesn't matter. Since Mark Sanchez and the Jets
lost to Pittsburgh in I think it was three of
her Stadium maybe back then. That's how long. I think
it was January two thousand and eleven. It was January
or twenty twelve. One of those whatever the playoffs was Sanchez.
The second year they lost in the ANFC Championship game
to the oh was it the Yeah, it was the

(02:22):
Colts in the first year, and it wasn't particularly close
after this after halftime, although the Jets did show well
early and then in Sanchez the second year, they lose
to these Steelers. They have not been back to the
playoffs since. I'm not gonna bore you with all the
names of the quarterbacks they've had, but essentially, you know,
they just have been completely a waste of a franchise

(02:46):
in the NFL. And it's weird they don't get more
pushback because they're so irrelevant at this point that act
where they are, and now they've decided, Hey, Aaron Rodgers,
we had a good two year run. Somebody joked to
me that Aaron Rodgers did more radio interviews with Pat McAfee,
the former NFL punter, than he did throw touchdown passes

(03:09):
as in New York Jet. Now, I haven't looked that up.
It's too funny. I hear that out loud. I'm just
laughing out loudly. Oh, you gotta be kidding me. But
it's on brand for Rogers. And what's interesting is where
does he go now? Does he go across town and say, hey,
New York Giants, sup? You guys need a quarterback, and
they're probably like, we're working on Stafford. We'll let you

(03:29):
know if we uh, if we're in the market for
a quarterback. I think the Rams make sense. I floated
the Niners for Rogers. I know I like brock Purty
a lot, but you know he don't have as much
leverage as I think now. Daniel Jeremiah yesterday's pod, which
I thought was awesome if you like the draft, made
a good point that they love party, he fits their system,

(03:49):
he's everything. Okay, fine, I don't see Rogers not being
in the league next year. Somebody's gotta take him. I
don't think the Titans will. They have the number one pick.
The Raiders could be in play, but I just don't
know which coach is gonna be like, oh, I gotta
get I gotta get Aaron Rodgers given what we've seen
from him from the last three years. One of them
he was hurt. But a lot of it is the

(04:11):
off field stuff. And I know there's some Elon Musk
fans out there and a lot of Joe Rogan fans,
and I occasionally listen to Rogan when he's got good guests.
It just to me, I can't imagine. Let's get Aaron
Rodgers in the bill, let's figure this out. It to me,
it just doesn't seem to work. So Rogers will now
kind of tuck his tail between his legs, maybe clean

(04:31):
up his act a little bit, and land somewhere so
that that is the There was the big NFL news
on Thursday, and now the NFL. You know, everybody buckles
up for the combine. There's the Miles Garrett stuff. Where's
he gonna land? You know what happens with Matt Stafford.
There's just a lot of stuff floating. And at his

(04:53):
introductory press conference, Kellen Moore essentially refuse to say that
Derek Carr is gonna be their guy. This was the
quote from Kellen Moore, like this is not like a
he's our guy. We got it. Derek's a tremendous quarterback
in this league. I've had so much respect for him,
the journey he's been on. He's a starter in this league.

(05:13):
He's a premier player in this league. Really excited to
team up with him and go through this process. And
just like any other player on the roster, I just
got here a few days ago and I'm excited to
go through this journey with all of them. Does that
mean he's going to do it like a deep dive
analysis on the roster or he's excited for the journey
next season. There was nothing about he's our week one guy.
I love his game. And if your car who already

(05:36):
said I you know, I'm not here to take a
pay cut or restructure. It gets a little interesting. Now
is somebody clamoring to play under Kellen Moore's direction? That's
another good question at the quarterback, you know, musical chairs,
if you will, just shaping up as really a potentially
super fun March slash April. I can't wait. Now let's

(05:59):
get to NBA All Star.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
You know, when you get new information, you kind of
can adjust your opinion, whether it's politics, monetary policy, TV shows, movies,
what culture, whatever it is. Music. Okay, I have for

(06:33):
the longest time defended NBA All Star Weekend. I said
it was the best All Star game. It was way
better than Major League Baseball. It crushed the Pro Bowl.
I've been a just a huge fan of the NBAL
Star Game. I like offense, I like aliubs, I like threes,
I like dunks. I don't they've lost me. I've kind

(06:54):
of lost interest in NBA All Star Weekend. Now. Some
of that has to do with the timing, because folks,
after the long NFL season where I'm locked in every
weekend to NFL from September to February. And again, I'm
not asking for any violins. I'm just from my point
of view, it's a long journey. And I know you

(07:14):
can scoff and say, dude, you're watching football. I know.
It's also the gambling, the fantasy, the content for Fox
sports dot Com, for TV and listen. I'm fortunate I
had a buddy I ply hoop with who texted me
dude at my and I only knew this guy for
a few months, but he's a nice guy. And he said,
let me exactly read it that, dude, at my job,

(07:36):
I have all the shows on, and you have the
best job in the world. I watch all the shows.
You have the best job in the world. And I
was like, oh, you know, sometimes you forget how good
you have it, and yes, I have it really good,
but the reality is also that it wears you down.
And that week before the Super Bowl, oh that's Saturday night.
It's just so joyous that Sunday you get to wake

(07:57):
up in the world is your oyster. You can do
whatever you want. Right, that's a good feeling. And I
love the NFL season. But the Super Bowl ends and
it's like, all right, where are we going on vacation?
And after the season, I mean pretty much anybody in
sports media who covers the NFL on a weekly basis
for five months and can't really take time off. I
mean I get well Thanksgiving off and Black Friday off,

(08:20):
and then I get Christmas Day off. But I was
the Herd was on on Christmas Day. I'm pretty sure
it was on December twenty sixth as well. There's just
not a lot of days off. And you know, it's
one of those crazy situations where it's like I can't
wait to get out of town. And so the NBA
All Star weekend lines up with this vacation that I

(08:44):
always take, or like just time off, and so now
I'm not even watching the All Star Game All Star Weekend.
I had to look up Honestly, I had to look
up who's in the three point contest. I had to
look up who's in the dunk contest? This new or Matt,
I don't understand that at all. I just don't. I'm
gonna tell it to you, so I had to look

(09:05):
it up. So tonight is the Rising Stars and there
are four teams with first and second year players and
they're gonna do battle, right, So you've got four teams.
The team that wins, there's two teams that play first,
and then two teams that play second, and the winner

(09:28):
of each of those play in like the championship. Whoever
wins the championship plays on Sunday, okay against the NBA
All Stars whoever wins their little bracket thing. So it's
just kind of all over the place. I just I
don't know how to internalize that, Like, what do you?
How do you even? There's just too many gates? This

(09:51):
is supposed to be an All Star game, but then
now they've pivoted away from that. The framing is now
All Star Weekend, and folks, I'm looking this up and
it's like, who's really locked in for that? All of
a sudden, Candice Parker is going to be coaching the
Rising All Stars against one All Star team, and I

(10:13):
got the rosters and it's like, okay, Like am I
supposed to get super geeked about this? Like Charles Barkley
has a team, He's got the Global Stars, Jannis Sga Yokich.
They're gonna do obviously great, although some of these guys
aren't built for All Star Games. Donovan Mitchell, Shangoon, Siakam

(10:33):
Cat Wemby, Trey Young, Like that's a hell of a team.
Shaq has, Jalen Brown, Curry Ad who's out? KD, James Harden,
Kyrie Lebron Like that's a stack team. Somehow, somehow, Kenny
Smith got stuck with Brunson, Kate Cunningham, Aunt Darius Carland

(10:56):
like young studs, and I guess that team has some
potential to do some damage, but they're really young guys.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to

Speaker 2 (11:15):
It's like I can lock in for an All Star Game,
an event? Can I lock in for like a tournament,
which is essentially what this is I mean, you know,
march maddness is one thing. Just some All stars thrown
together is another. And I was reading somebody online was
essentially saying, hey, you got to watch out for the
Rising Stars beating the NBA All Stars because those rising

(11:38):
Stars there are hungry young guys, and the All Stars are like, hey,
where's the party tonight? You know, And I understand that,
totally get it. And that's another reason why I'm kind
of sort of like not that stoked for the All
Star Game. The other problem, and again this is first
world problems. These are my issues. You know, I coach
my kids in basketball and most of the games are
Sunday afternoon, and that's also lining up with the All

(12:01):
Star Game. So like, yeah, am I missing the All
Star Game to coach my kids? You're damn right. You know,
my son's team really good with me on the sideline,
we haven't lost. We did get a fortunate forfeit last
week because the only other opponent had three and then
I was like, fine, let this friend play who had
like a Puka nakooa jersey, and then we gave them

(12:25):
one of our best players, which I thought was stupid,
and they were like listen, it's a forfeit, don't worry,
and I don't. Unfortunately, I'm super competitive, so I was
just like, all right, well, uh fine, we'll give it
to and we ended up kind of losing. But it
was one of those like they weren't stopping the clock
because it was a forfeit when we were fouling to
get back in it, and I was messing around with rotations,

(12:46):
tinkering for later in the season. Similar to JJ redd
you don't care obviously, but like to me, I'm locked
in on that. And yeah, I prefer coaching my daughter's
team undefeated, although we are going to play have to
play four on five this weekend and catch our first
l but we'll see, we'll see. So anyways, yeah, bottom
line is like very excited for the All Star Break

(13:08):
to be done. I'm not stoked for the Dunk Contest,
which I'm told Mac McClung, who's in the G League,
is going for a third straight title. No, Michael Jordan
didn't win three in a row. No, Zach Lavine didn't.
Nate Robinson has won three, but he didn't do it
in a row. So Mac McClung is looking to set history,
which I guess moderately interesting. I'm gonna put my money

(13:31):
if I bet on this, I doubt I will. Stefan Cassel,
the rookie from Yukon. He's on the Spurs. He's awesome.
You guys know, I loved him in the draft lead up.
He was phenomenal in the NCAA tournament Final four. Just
an excellent player. I'm guessing Wemby will somehow, some way
be a prop although is that too risky? Is that
a bad look for Wemby, who's very image conscious? Oh

(13:52):
let me slide this in here. One other interesting thing
I heard at the Super Bowl after the Deer and
Fox trade. I asked somebody like who would know? Hey,
I thought the whole thing was Trey Young was maybe
ticketed to be the partner of Wemby. I thought those
two were going to join forces. And I was told,

(14:14):
in no uncertain terms, Wemby's people nixed the Trey Young
idea way before it even got close. Why is that? Well, apparently,
and again this is just what I heard a lot
of questions about Trey Young's work ethic. Now, I'll stop
you right there and say I am a fan of

(14:35):
Trey Young. I think he's an awesome player. I follow
him on IG. I like his story. I don't know
if he's a winning player. I know he had a
good playoff run early in his career, got to the
conference finals, something Embiid hasn't done. But I just apparently
there's work ethic questions. There's how hard does he want
to grind to win? Is he a bit of a

(14:55):
selfish player? Like you could? Apparently that's out there and
Wemby's people a I'm sure the Spurs would deny went
to this person, and we're like, no, we'll take de
Aaron Fox things. Fox of course a little different work ethic,
does play some defense, though not much more than Trey Young.
So anyways, like we'll see, Wemby is very image conscious.
I don't know if he'll be used. It'll be willing

(15:16):
to use it as a prop in the dunk contest,
the three point contest. Apparently there's Steph Curry did something
last season against Sabrina I and Escu that was mixed.
I don't know why, but that's not happening. So now
you've got Dame Lillard, who's won the three punt contests
two years in a row. The game is in the
Bay Area. Dame from the Bay Area. I think it's

(15:38):
he's gonna be competitive. Obviously, Jalen Brunson, Tyler Hero also
big names featured in it. So it's like, you know,
a bit of a throwback. And listen, I didn't watch
Pro Bowl, the Pro Bowl weekend, whatever that stuff was.
I didn't watch a second of that. I haven't watched. No, actually,
I did watch a little Major League Baseball just for
I was I think Otani was in last year's game,

(15:59):
and that's the reason I watched. I think I could
be wrong on that, and I'll get called out whatever. Sorry,
I don't remember an All Star game from seven months ago,
but these it's just an antiquated thing. It back in
the day, all Star games were cool and fun and competitive,
and now they just aren't. They're not cool, they're none
of the above. And as such, you know, I think

(16:20):
it's gonna be a bit of a tough sell in
regards to getting people to care. While we're on the NBA,
let me quickly say, you know, I jokingly refer to
SGA as a free throw merchant, and you know what
I saw that was one of these AI accounts for

(16:40):
the NBA has. I think the title of the AI
count is he definitely didn't say that, or something like that.
And they used to do a bunch of Lebron stuff
and they would just, like, you know, write up some
funny stuff that Lebron definitely didn't say, but it looks
like him, and it was. It was hysterical. I loved
to during the playoffs. It was spectacular. And one of
them said, I'm pretty sure this was two years ago.

(17:04):
I think the account said that called for SGA a
free throw merchant, and I thought that was hilarious, and
so I started using that on the herd well. SGA
went to Minnesota last night for a what was a
pretty good game between the Wolves and the Thunder, and
when SGA was at the free throw line, the fans
started chanting free throw merchant. Dunt dunt dah da dah
free throw merchant, and SGA clearly hears it and like laughs.

(17:28):
It's like a thing. Now. It is kind of a
running joke from me, But I do believe it's kind
of sort of accurate. I mean, if you look at
the stats, I know the Thunder don't shoot a lot
of free throws, but SGA shoots, I mean an obscene amount.
Let me see if I can get the exact total
for him. But free throw attempts per game, Yannis leads

(17:52):
the league. SGA is second, AD is third. So you
can see a theme. Two or the three are bigs
Devin Booker forour Trey Young five, Jalen Bruns A six,
Dame seven, and SGA. Nobody gets into the lane and
gets to his spot in the MIDI like SGA, and
for whatever reason, he just gets called for. I think

(18:12):
he gets every call. It feels like, oh fun fact here.
I'm just looking at the stats. Yannis averaging five point
nine assists per game, SGA averaging six point zero asist
per game. I didn't know that Yannis was creating at
the same level of SGA. Devin Booker d book Is
at six point seven assists per game. Gosh, I know,

(18:33):
I'm excited, like even talking about it, but guys, the
NBA has been just absolute fire in the last two
weeks with all these trades chaos. I mean, you got
Windhorst coming out and essentially saying, hey, guys, Kevin Durant
knows it, the Sons know it, the fans know it.
Like Kevin Durant is not gonna be on the Suns
next season, almost certainly. And you hear that and you're

(18:56):
just like, damn, KD on the move again and again.
I had made the case that Kevin Durant was a
top ten player, a top ten player all time. I
thought he was headed toward it when he was on
the Warriors and won two titles. This is what he's
done in the playoffs since leaving Golden State. Now he

(19:18):
had the achilles, so he missed the season they had
the toe on the Line in twenty one where it
was Katie against the World. He was cooking in that
series against the Bucks, toe on the line, so I
think they ended up going overtime and they ended up losing.
The next year swept in Brooklyn by the Celtics, I'm

(19:39):
pretty sure. Then he goes to Phoenix and they lose
in the second round. That was I want to say,
oh damn it. I want to say it was to
the MAVs, but I'm not one hundred percent certain it
might have been. No, No, it was the Nuggets. They lost
four two to the Nuggets, and then last year swept again.

(20:00):
Kevin Durant has been swept twice in the last three years,
and now they might not even make the playoffs this year.
And he turns thirty seven, yes, thirty seven in September.
Now he is still an automatic bucket because of his jumper.
But like, is Kevin Durant gonna age well into his

(20:21):
late thirties, He's certainly not gonna age well like Lebron.
His numbers are still pretty damn good. In the regular season.
He's at twenty seven, six and four, and he's still
shooting forty percent from three. But you just get the
feeling that, like the end may kind of sort of
be near for Kevin Durant, not one or two years,
but I don't know that he's gonna get some massive contract.

(20:44):
And that's when you start to see, like, oh, could
KD possibly Is it possible that Kevin Durant could take
less money and go join forces with a team where
he gets to win a title. Now, somebody might argue
he could go to Dallas. He likes Kyrie so much.
Somebody might say, Hey, why wouldn't he go play with
Wemby and de Aaron Fox in San Antonio? Do you

(21:07):
have any open looks he'd get there? Why wouldn't he
go back to the Warriors Jimmy Butler or Steph Curry.
Oh my god, I don't see that happening. He's already
said he doesn't want to go there. But and then
the interesting one is the Lakers. Hey, and you want
to play with Lebron and Luca you want to Now
he is buddies with Anthony Edwards. Remember they had the
toe to toe in the playoffs last year when Minnesota
swept their ass, And it's like, hmm, that's an interesting fit.

(21:31):
I don't know. Kevin Durant could go anywhere, or he
could just be like, I still want all the money.
I still think I'm a primetime player. It's gonna be
so interesting what his market is, because guys, I'm not
gonna lie to you, I'm a little down on KD
at this point. Like he's still an awesome player, but
there's a lot of awesome players in the league. And
he can't even get out of the first round last

(21:51):
year and this year they look like a playing team.
I don't know what to do with Kevin Durant. And
you know, you don't want to be smirch in the
gentleman's name, but man What a fall for Kevin Durant. Now,
maybe he ends well and gets back to a final somewhere,
and I'm sure everybody's gonna make fun of him for
wherever he goes, but I'm rooting for the guy, Kevin
Durant or just a fascinating career two time champ, although

(22:14):
some people like to say he's a no time champ
because the Warriors titles don't count. Whatever. Anyways, guys, no
podcast next week, as we got the post NFL season
little respite. I will be very limited on social media.
Definitely no Twitter unless there's a big trade in the
NFL or something. But it's good to kind of rehab

(22:34):
and just kind of recharge the old batteries as we
head into March Madness. If there are college basketball players,
I'll put him on the gram. Enjoy next week. We're
back in ten days.
