Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
No, Fox Sports Radio Radio kind of interesting to be
honest with you. Welcome in on the topic Wheel tonight
is maybe a little bit of if people have to
tell you how great they are, do we really know
if they're great or not? I mean, it's my favorite
thing on social media, right, whenever someone tells you how
rich or accomplished they are, and here's the five steps
(00:24):
and how I did it, and you got to go
through a stupid spool anymore, it's a thread like what
are we doing? It is the NBA in the middle
of a true identity crisis. We're gonna talk about it
coming up tonight here on Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back
to the Weekend. I like to consider this show. I
guess maybe Jason and Mike have like the leg up right,
they lead your right into the weekend. I'm in the
(00:46):
Central time zone, so obviously this time slot is I mean,
let's just be It's kind of like, hell, we're all
supposed to be in bed right now, We're all supposed
to be getting ready for a big Saturday.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
But even if we were supposed to be, I think
I'd be up.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
I think I'd be up because there's so much going on,
and usually there's always.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
The sympathetic here is out there.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
It's like, oh, man, what do you guys talk about
whenever football's over? What do you mean when we talk
about when football's over? Football? I mean there's all this
off season stuff that we need to get to and
we'll be doing it a lot tonight from the tire
rack dot Com studios. Tire rack dot com will help
you get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free
(01:25):
roadhatchard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack
dot com the way tire buying should be. The crew's
all here tonight. We'll hear from Brianna and Mark here
in moments. I let me kind of lay out a
few things here right off the top. But we got
a lot to get to. So first of all, well, actually,
you know what is Brianna in yet?
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Mark? Is are you there? Brianna? Yeah, Yes, she's here. Oh,
were you guys there for the police chase today?
Speaker 4 (01:51):
No?
Speaker 5 (01:52):
I was actually sleeping.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Actually, Mark, were you there for it?
Speaker 1 (01:57):
No?
Speaker 6 (01:57):
I was sleep too.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
I don't know if I've ever had more FOMO than
when I saw I think it was Iowa Sam and
did you guys get the scoop on this did basically
a police chase just come to an end right in
front of our studios today, because.
Speaker 6 (02:13):
Absolutely sure what happened, but ohka, I talk about it
right now.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Okay, okay, okay, we'll dig you guys investigate because I
got to tell you something.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (02:21):
Yeah, So what happened was that there was the high
speed chase and then it just ended. They exited their
freeway and then the tow truck was like facing all
the police cars.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Uh huh.
Speaker 5 (02:32):
And then that's what that was.
Speaker 7 (02:34):
They were just trying to kind of like calm him
down and then they arrested him.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Okay, so it was a tow truck.
Speaker 5 (02:39):
He was a stolen tow truck from Santa Monica.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Okay, So just me, how in the world was he
ever able to get off that exit? I mean it's
always backed up every single time I try to get
off on I mean, like, do I just time everything
wrong in LA with traffic?
Speaker 3 (02:54):
How can you possibly have a police chase on those roads?
Speaker 5 (02:58):
I don't get it, especially in the middle of the day.
That was crazy.
Speaker 6 (03:01):
To close it when you're here, thank you, yes?
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Or when I'm in a hurry. Don't ever look by
the way. This is my rule that all my la
friends Brianna and Mark and Mary Mack and Patrick and
everyone has taught me. You never look on how many
miles you have to go. You always look at the
amount of time, because two miles could be thirty minutes,
just saying, all right, well, my fomo was kicked into
(03:25):
high gear. And I it's funny because I'm the same way.
I like to fit in an afternoon nap on Fridays.
I think it's necessary in.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Order to survive.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Now, you guys work a little bit longer than I do, right,
because when we're done it for a central to a Pacific,
you guys are on to the next show, right, Brianna, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
all right, Mark, Yeah, you guys.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Have the next program.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
I take a nap before my next line of duty,
if you will, So sometimes maybe my nap can be
a little bit shorter. And then once I saw that
definitely wasn't going back to sleep. Whenever I was in Tulsa,
whenever I was on one of our great affiliates fourteen
thirty the Buzz, And maybe there's a handful, maybe the
percentage of Tee Town nine to one eight ers that
(04:07):
I bring in every single week grows. But our studio
was right across the street from a crack motel. I'm
not even kidding. I won't mention the motels, our hotel's name,
but it was. It was literally a crack motel, and
it was at least once a week whenever we'd be
(04:27):
doing our show and all of a sudden, my co host,
Jeremy Poplin Pop would be like, dude, look out the window,
and the whole show was taken over. Because i mean,
come on, who doesn't like a live episode of cops
taking place right in front of them when they feel
like they're a pretty secure and safe distance. Right Like,
if I'm standing outside with a microphone, Brienna, I'm not
(04:49):
feeling safe, probably while that thing's going down or while
any of the arrest are going on back in the
day at the old fourteen thirty studios. But if I'm inside,
if I'm in the safe confines of the Tirack dot
Com studios, were safe and sound, right, Yeah they were.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
Everybody was outside just staring through the window.
Speaker 7 (05:09):
Just crazy because you just don't know if the guy
is gonna try to like hide from the cops and
go into the building, or has like a gun.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
Yeah, I just don't know what.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Never know.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
I was pretty sure all those ones that I was
watching back in the day, yes, they probably did have weapons,
and they they were ready to do whatever it took
to protect themselves. But thankfully, thankfully, we never saw any violence,
and thankfully everything inded safely today. Well, ladies and gentlemen,
I just want to get this out of the way
right off the top, and I hope this isn't a buzzkill,
(05:39):
and I'm trying not to bring anyone's vibes down tonight,
But the Yankees Beard story is the dumbest story in
the history of sports, and the fact that we even
have to take a moment to talk about it is ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
It was, you know, back in the day.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
You know this is gonna sound crazy, but you know,
David Stern had a dress code for the NBA. I mean,
there was a point where guys, guys like Tim Duncan
and others were shown up for work looking like they
just got done at a fraternity party, and David Sart
was like, hey, just like you're going somewhere nice, please,
(06:15):
And it was a fight. There was a fight for
a while, but in the end everyone kind of they decide, Okay,
we'll do it, and now we have freaking red carpets
before every single sporting event.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
We got fit.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Checks and it's like, oh, here comes so and so
walking in right. So, you know, there was an era
where we had to remind people how they're supposed to
look right. And I was probably growing up during that era.
The beerd thing with the Yankees, I always thought thought
it was kind of kind of weird to begin with,
but I also, you know, it was a Yankee thing,
(06:49):
So to me, it's like, huh, that's fine to each
their own. I personally cannot grow a beer.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
I can't. I'm like Patches Zulahan, there's just Patches. I can't.
Maybe I'm not a real man. I can't grow beer.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
And the fact that we have to talk about this
and that it's his story is hilarious.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Is it a reason.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Why the Yankees didn't sign Juan Soto or didn't get
any free agents in the past. No, no, it's not.
And I did have to laugh a little bit because
I agree with Jason hundred percent. But you know, if
the reason Wan Soda didn't sign with the Yankees is
because they didn't give him a suite. I'm kind of
thinking it's like they were still gonna pay you in
(07:30):
upwards of a billion dollars.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
I mean, what are we complaining about.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
I get it that you want to take care of
your family, but it's not like they're not taking care
of you with the amount of money that everybody's gonna
pay you. I don't think this was something that the
Yankees had to do. I don't think it's something they
needed to do. I didn't think it was dumb to
begin with. And the way it's being treated today, oh
my goodness. I saw the release. The Yankees twitter feed
(07:56):
put out a release and it was like statement from
the Yankees, and I thought, oh my gosh, who died?
Speaker 3 (08:03):
It's the first thing I think of.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
And it's this rather in depth breakdown of the fact
that you know, they're moving on from their rule or
their standard, and it's just like, couldn't this be one
of those I don't know, Hey, how about that story?
I mean, not everything in sports requires a press release
(08:27):
or as talking about it. Sometimes it's just oh, yeah,
they did that, and you know again, I maybe we
should take one step further in this. I don't even
know why they had to release it. I mean, am
I missing something? Has this been a big story? I mean,
we dudes still have neck tattoos and they could do
(08:48):
their I mean, was this an issue?
Speaker 3 (08:50):
Because I don't even know.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
If I'm the Yankees, why I would have a press
conference or release to talk about it. Whenever I first
whenever I first started in radio, We're going back to
years that had the one and the nine before it, okay,
going back away, didn't know what I was doing and
learned quickly, had a bunch of great bosses, and OD
boss Michael del Jorna one time say all right, we're
(09:15):
gonna do this, this and this and this is gonna
make things sound better, and we're gonna the station's gonna
be better because we do this. And I said, hey,
should we promote it a a new sound? He's like, no,
Do you think restaurants go out and promote that suddenly
they're gonna start giving you better service or that hey,
we've now figured out how to make sure you get
your meal in the right amount of time? Like well, no,
(09:37):
He's like, yeah, you don't promote it whenever you haven't
been doing things that are common sense things. To me,
It's like, why do we feel the need to talk
about this? Why am I wasting five minutes here off
the top of the show breaking it down?
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Who cares?
Speaker 2 (09:52):
I mean, of all the things to talk about and
all the things to break down, the fact that this
was and is a talking point in the sports world
is laughable to me. So for those of you that
are clutching pearls tonight and are angry about this, which
I think is like nobody, or for those of you
that have been calling for it, I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
It's just it's not It's not on my radar tonight.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
So basically, I'm apologizing for those of you that are
either angered by this or fired up about it, because
it's one of the greatest Hey, how about that's I've
ever seen in the sports world, Brianna. Now, I'll get
if you want to push back, if this is something
that you felt like needed to be changed and needs
to be talked about, I am open. You know me,
(10:39):
I can change on a dime with a take, Okay,
but please tell me this wasn't high on the radar
topics for you tonight.
Speaker 7 (10:46):
I think it was amusing, Like I think this statement
was amusing. But I think that's kind of just like
how you kind of started the show talking about like, oh,
look how great I am.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Look how great I am?
Speaker 7 (10:54):
Right, So this is kind of like okay, well, it's
almost like the Cowboys, right Like if something were to
happen and Jerry Owns was like going to change something
with like attendance or something, I'm sure they would release
the statement because they like that attention, right, you love it? Yeah,
So I mean this is I think just like a
way of like, hey, guys, like, don't remember, this is
something that only we were doing, Okay, and now we
are changing our minds and we are going to change
(11:18):
this policy that we've had for forty nine years, and
we just we have to let everybody know. Okay, very
like sorority girl kind of thing, you know what I mean. Yeah,
so you have to like we're changing our hazing process.
You know, now you only have to lose ten pounds
instead of fifteen pounds to get in our sorority. Wow,
you guys, that's how I see it.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
It's a great comparison. I mean, it's been twenty five
years since I graduated from college. But I absolutely felt that.
I felt that in my bones, right, all right, So
with that in mine, I think the big Baseball story
tonight has nothing to do with the Yankees policy on
facial here, and I think it has everything to do
with the dispute between baseball and and how now. I
(12:02):
mean it's again, Jason was cracking me up Baseball trying
Hey listen, we broke up with him.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
They didn't break up with us.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
I want to carve out some time later this hour
to actually go in depth on this because I love
media rights and sports fights, and I do think that
I do think media rights run the world. TV rights
run the world, especially in college sports. And here's Major
League Baseball that has done a good job in trying
(12:32):
to devalue their rights with these terrible deals that they've
given Apple TV Plus and Roku, and then all of
a sudden they're gonna go to ESPN for more money.
I'm kind of glad. I'm kind of glad that both
are going in a separate direction. I'm curious to see
what ESPN does replace it, and I'm even more curious
(12:52):
to see where Baseball ends up. So we'll get to
that coming up at about thirty minutes from now. But
if there was ever a time when one sport should
really be disappointed in itself, I kind of feel like
it should be the NBA. Now this as we kick
off the post All Star break portion of the season.
(13:13):
You can't even say second half of the season, because
we're well past the halfway point of the NBA season,
what like twenty four games left of an eighty two
game season. I don't know if you could have had
a worst week for the NBA. And it's funny because
on last week's show, our debut show, if you Will,
(13:34):
we're kind of joking back and forth about, Hey, we're
gonna care about this. And it's funny because for an
All Star weekend with a new format, and as someone
who consumes a lot of sports media and sports radio,
I didn't feel like there was a ton of talk
about it, And honestly, I didn't feel like there was
(13:54):
a ton of talk about hockey until the Kachucks decided
to start Saturday Night. I could go last Saturday off
with a bang by dropping gloves literally nine seconds apart
and suddenly regaining our interest in an event that had
never even existed before. On Saturday Night, and if I'm
the NBA, and if I'm Adam Silver, and if I'm
(14:15):
even I don't know if players are to the point
where they care, but if I'm any of these entities, man,
I'm embarrassed by how badly I got worked on.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
The national stage this week.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
I mean, the biggest topic this week involving the NBA is, Dude,
what's wrong with the NBA?
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Why does the NBA suck?
Speaker 2 (14:35):
I mean, you got Draymond Green, who I don't know, man,
that guy if there is a mic around somewhere, it
always seems to find him. But you've got Draymond Green
coming out saying the product sucks. You got Trey Young,
you know, one of the stars of the league, saying
this All Star game format sucks.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
You then have you know still?
Speaker 2 (14:55):
I mean, I don't know what the Mavericks ownership is
trying to do, and like, hey, we didn't expect his backlash.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
You got that embarrassment right.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
And again, I'm one of those few people that think
in the short term this might actually work out pretty
well for the Dallas Mavericks. I taking mine, I think
it makes him a bit more of a problem in
the West right now.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
So I I just don't know if.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
You could have had a week that went worse for
the NBA. And then the debate becomes, well, who's the
face of the league, and he got Charles Barkley talking
about you got to earn it, and everybody's right right,
the NBA needs someone to step up and be that,
but unfortunately the guy that's doing it, no one wants
to give him the credit. No one wants to give
(15:41):
the guy that's stepping up to be the face of
the league credit because he's doing it in a market
that you still don't give any respect to. When we
come back, we'll dive into the Shay Gilgess Alexander story
and why it took I don't know, finally kind of
realizing that Oklahoma City's pretty damn good for you to
maybe realize this face of the League conversation is one
(16:03):
that is actually taking place right now, and you're ignoring
the guy who is grabbing that title because you're so
enamored with what you think certain people are going to
be or what they should be.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
And we'll dive to that next.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
It's a busy night as always, If you guys know
what you want to talk about before we get to
it eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven
seven nine ninety six six three sixth night. I will
commit to you all right to constantly give you updates
on scores and games from across the NBA and college basketball.
Will preview a pretty interesting day in college basketball. But
(16:41):
let's have the Face of the League conversation next here
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to listen.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Live eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven
seven nine ninety six six three sixty nine. If you
want to jump in tonight on Twitter, our ex I
still say Twitter. I'm sorry, old habits die hard. I
guess you can find me at Plank Show. Everybody at
Everybody should follow us at Fox Sports Radio. A couple
(17:21):
of loose hinds to tie up our buddy nature boy
Eddie Wrights, so sorority girls no longer have to shave
their facial hair.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
No.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
I I don't know if we need to re explain it,
but I think you get what we're talking about.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
It's an attention grab. Let me tell you.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Guys, what we're gonna do that no one else has
ever done before. I mean, technically, if someone really wanted
to fight it back in the day, if you really
wanted to fight the beard policy or the mustache policy,
couldn't they really go to the players Association that they
really will?
Speaker 3 (17:57):
I mean, if they really wanted to. But I think
I think nature Boy gets it.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
And it's a good nine one eight chiefs seven two
on Twitter, twenty third in memorial.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
The definition of Sketchy Papa was always breaking news. The
peeps across the street are it's gonna get interesting.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
See this is where we got in trouble, Brionna.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
It's where we got in trouble mark back in the
day because we would always overuse the breaking news sounder.
You know how Fox Sports Radio has a very breaking
news sounder, and then when something breaks, either the host
or the update personal jump in and tell you what's
going on, and it's like Luca's just been traded or
you know what, it's it's big news. We probably abuse
that because our breaking news would be oh, Tulsa PD
(18:44):
across the street, they've got somebody, so that's uh, that's
good recall right there, we're going back like a decade
now on that. I don't even know if the station's
still in the same studio, but that genesis was the
fact that we had we had a police chase involving
a truck that ended right in front of the Fox
Sports Radio studios. Can't beat that. Hey, for the best
(19:08):
pregame show every weekend, be sure to tune into Fox
Sports Radio's Countdown presented by bet MGM, every Saturday and
Sunday morning from nine a to noon Eastern in sixty.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
To nine am Pacific.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
We will counching out all the biggest games here on
the best pregame show in the business. Kylee Troops, NBA,
you name it, They've got you. Tune into Countdown, presented
by bet MGM, every Saturday and Sunday morning right here
on Fox Sports Radio on the iHeartRadio app. So, Charles
Barkley was a little bit fired up this week, and
(19:40):
I think whenever you love the NBA and you live
the NBA and you cover the NBA, you can only
take so much of people dogging the NBA. So, and
I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't know what
show where this debate was being had. But listen to
Charles Barkley talk about the face of the league conversation.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
We can I say one more thing.
Speaker 8 (20:01):
Yeah, I saw some guys on another network the other
day talking about face of the league, and I was
so annoyed just sitting around watching. You know, Jerry started
with Kevin Durant was talking about weinby being a Philly.
First of all, you don't give anybody the face of
the league?
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Am I right?
Speaker 8 (20:19):
Shack Shaq took being faced with Mike when Matti Johnson
and lard Berg came in. They're like with the new
sheriffs in town. Shaq took it, Kobe took it, Lebron
took it, Steph took it. But I get so annoyed
when I hear these guys like, you don't give somebody something.
That's one of the problems we got. These idiots won't
(20:39):
play an All Star game. We've given them so much.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
They don't have no respect for the history.
Speaker 8 (20:43):
But you don't give anybody the face of the game.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
You take it, you don't annoy them. It just it
becomes it.
Speaker 8 (20:52):
Yes, it's what the player, that's what the player is
made of, and what the player wants and to count
of what Chuck say, they whoever they will be, they
will try to put somebody as the face of the league.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
They do it. But you know, Truck makes a great poetry.
I have to go take it. Yeah, you know, I
I don't know about you guys. Bring in it right now.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Let's just go and Mark, I don't know how much
your interest is in the NBA, but I'd be curious
to get your take on it.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
Brandon, who's the face in the NBA right now? In
your opinion? Is it still Lebron?
Speaker 5 (21:19):
I guess I think it would have to be.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
I think it is.
Speaker 5 (21:23):
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (21:23):
I mean, Katie and Staff are kind of up there
as well. Katie not even as much because just the
Sun suck. As a Suns fan, I have to say that,
you know what I mean. And even Staff, like the
Warriors aren't the best right now. It's they're on the descent.
But yeah, I think it's Lebron. And I also think
it's because he's on the Lakers, right So that's right.
It's half the brand and then half the Lebron brand.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
See, I think Mark, you you you got a care
on the face of the league right now?
Speaker 3 (21:48):
Would you go with Lebron too?
Speaker 6 (21:49):
Still, what's the guy from the Timberwolves and it's still.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
Anthony Edwards Erwits.
Speaker 6 (21:55):
I thought he was beginning because he had a great
end of the season. I thought he was the one
up and coming. But he seems to have faltered and
he doesn't. He's not holding up. So it's like you're
altering that.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
That's why whenever I'm gonna sit here and stand for
Shake Gildess Alexander, I think I think you kind of
hit on something that I deal with every Sunday night
with my buddy Arnie Span. You're here on Fox Sports Radio,
and I feel like this is something fairly universal because
you're not in La or New York or I guess
(22:30):
now suddenly the Bay Area with what the Warriors became,
it's almost as if we're not allowed to champion our
guy for this role because what Shake Gildess Alexander is
doing and what the thunder are Now. I get it,
they've got to do something in the postseason and that
success has to carry over from just what they've done
(22:50):
in the regular season. But I mean, here's a guy
that's that's been doing it at a pretty high level
now for the better part part of what five of
his six seven seasons he's been in the NBA. I mean,
it's kind of wild to look back at video of
him whenever he was with the Clippers and to see
(23:11):
the physical specimen that he's becoming. I worry, you know,
in this might be kind of the I like to
see Oklahoma City be good. I want to see them
be successful, but I worry about the body and how
you know, the physicality is that going to eventually deteriorate?
But I have the same concerns about Steph Curry, and
(23:31):
it was pretty consistent for him, you know, year and in,
year out, and I think, you know, I don't even
know if we were to carry this over in the NFL.
Is Mahome still the face of the NFL? Is it
okay to say that it can be multiple people that
can be the face is of the league? I mean,
is that is that acceptable? Because I think, in my
(23:55):
in my opinion, in in my perspective, I think there's
many guys who are quote unquote in a position to
be the faces of the NBA right now. We just
have to be willing to embrace them. I don't know
what more Shay Gilges Alexander has to do. I mean,
the dude is the dude's gonna win the MVP and
(24:15):
it's not even close right now, and he was the
runner up last year. And by the way, Oklahoma City
is in a position to where, I mean again, they've
got to do it in the postseason, but they're on
a fast track towards the NBA Finals, and the way
that things have kind of sputtered out of the gates
for Luca and the Lakers a bit, right, you don't
lose to the Hornets, what they lose a home game
(24:37):
of the Jazz doing there somewhere. I just I think
it's gonna take a little time, and I don't think
that you just automatically elevate them to a Western Conference
Finals contender yet, because you've still got to deal with
Oklahoma City. And let's see how Memphis in Houston handle
the spotlight whenever they get to the postseason. But I
(24:59):
think think we have great candidates for and I think
we have guys that are ready to take that torch.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
We just as fans need to be willing to embrace
it now.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
The ideal that they've got to go take it I mean,
from from that perspective from Chuck, every guy he mentioned
was in a major markety, So is that what it
needs to be in order to truly take over that
role eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven
seven nine ninety six six three six nights.
Speaker 9 (25:27):
And I'd be.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Willing to bet tonight if if we were to throw
it out, hey, and maybe we're we're together tomorrow night too.
Bernie's taking a well deserved full weekend off. Maybe we
dive a little bit deeper into this tomorrow night, guys,
when we have a full four hours. Because I don't
even know if it's really all that important, to be
honest with you, I don't don't. I don't know if
(25:49):
you need somebody that's got to be that face of the.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
League in order to get back.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
I think we're I still think in the NBA the
players have to fall back in love with the association.
I mean, they got to fall back in love with it.
And I don't know where the disconnect has happen, like
you should. This is just so I can give all
the disclaimers. This is Chris Plank talking from his garage
(26:13):
right wishing he could play in the NBA all right.
So when I said, but Brian, they got to fall
back in love with the league. The All Star Game's
got to mean something to them, you know, the regular
season needs to mean something to them. It's got to
matter that it's expensive as hell to go to their games, right,
It's not a cheap thing anymore in every game. While
it's not as important as a playoff game, it's sure
(26:37):
as hell is the fans that are spending their money
to go there. And I don't think that we're quite
there yet with NBA players and their love of the association.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
Right now, it's.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
It's hey, I played, I get paid, I go home,
I'm done.
Speaker 5 (26:49):
I kind of I don't want to be like old
man on the line.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
That's what I'm doing right now.
Speaker 7 (26:53):
Well, I feel it a little bit too on my
end because I feel like a lot of these players
they grew up in like the AAU cycle, all right,
very much. I think like they probably had an All
Star Game every six months. They were in the McDonald's
NBA All what not the McDonald's like Invitational, No, they.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Were McDonald's All Americas, yeah, right, And.
Speaker 7 (27:13):
So I mean they probably went to those tournaments, what
like every six months or something like those. So those
were there all Star games, right, those were their times
to shine and do everything. So by the time they
get they get to the NBA, it's like I've already
done that. I've already shown how great I am. Now
I'm just here to get a paycheck.
Speaker 5 (27:29):
And go home. Like That's what I kind of think we.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Were listening there. I'm big on audio.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
I love to react to not only postgame press conferences
and highlights and just different perspectives. I feel like we
can always learn and we can get smarter together or
get angrier together.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
And I love what PK.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Suman said this week where it's like, hey, man, the
they've got to show they being the NBA, that these
things still matter to them, because if you don't care,
why should I? And if I don't care, I'm gonna
quit watching.
Speaker 3 (28:02):
Now.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Another problem that we have is that you know, this
is this is the truth. The NBA got a s
ton of guaranteed money from Amazon Prime.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
Who else was in NBC.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
They got a lot of money for a product that
we're sitting here grinching about saying I need people to
show me they care more, right, And you know, maybe
this was a blind faith in some of these networks
where like, hey, there's gonna be a viewing audience there
that we can take advantage of.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
But you know, all of these fights about the.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
NBA needs to be more fan friendly, you need to
get a face to the league, your big teams, your
blue bloods need to be better. They're all kind of
shot to you know what. When you see the amount
of money they just got paid for their TV rights,
it's just it's it's wild.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
So hey, oh gohead, I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (28:56):
Is it weird how it seems like current players don't
want to make themselves stand out. They don't want to
be the number one on their team. It seems like
everybody is afraid to stand up and say I'm the
best the way Kobe used to say it, or the
way Michael used to say it. I don't see how
that that doesn't come across. We just see the players
(29:19):
wanting the fans to be more involved. When the fans
look at the players and say, you guys don't care,
so watch it. I knew we've been saying that over
and over, but right no, players seems like they want
to be consistent week after week. They don't want to
be the scorer. They don't want to be the dominant player.
They don't want to be the one that everybody has
to be afraid of. Players don't seem to have that
(29:41):
sort of drive anymore.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Yeah, they get paid and they're fine. I got paid
and they listen. I would be the same way, man,
I would be the same way. But again, you have
got to show the fans. You've got to show us
that it's more than just oh yeah, I'm not gonna
go because this is heard, or I'm not feeling good,
or I'm not up to it or load management. All
(30:04):
these things that I get and are necessary. We just
need to be smarter about it, all right, Do you
want to get hollering James in here?
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Brio? I'll leave this up to you. Before the breaks.
He's still hanging with you.
Speaker 5 (30:17):
He's still here, so let's give him a Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
I always like her from hollering James. It is It
is Fox Sports Radio. It's the playing show. Hollering James
is in the house. What is going on James up
in Minnesota, mister.
Speaker 10 (30:30):
Howard, James's saying, it's very cold up here in Minnesota.
We love our Anthemy Edwards because you're drop forty, You'll
drop fifty. He might even drop sixty in one game.
But you know what I like to say about this,
every Edwards is not get the credit that he deserves
because a man don't play around a supporting guest that
(30:53):
supports this team ethics like you should.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
But Okay, hollering James is actually a pretty good point, Buddy.
Why did Minnesota blow everything up?
Speaker 3 (31:03):
Then? Why did they make the move.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
To to deal away Kat and uh go get you, go,
get you Julius Randall? Like I felt like they had
something going and I thought this was supposed to bring
people in that had that team mindset around him.
Speaker 10 (31:21):
Uh, Chulius Rander will be a good outside score, better
than Cat. And they were wrong. They made They made
a huge mistake.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
All right, Buddy, holler and James, it's good to hear
from you not hollering too much. So there's another one
like you, Mark putting a check mark there. In the
Anthony Edwards conversation, Manny writes s g A, you're being
such a homer. All right, listen, man, I'm just gonna
tell you right now. I'll give you I have a
very checkered history with Oklahoma City. Okay, I am a
Lakers fan. I'm a diehard Lakers fan. I'm the more
(31:54):
still in the Central time zone that stays up and
watches every single one of their games. And when Oklahoma
Sey came here, I pushed back so hard because all
I ever had was people yelling at me whenever I
first started in radio to not talk about the NBA
because the NBA was stupid and the NBA's one on
one and nobody cares about the NBA. Quit talking about it,
(32:16):
all right, And then all of a sudden, Oklahoma gets
an NBA team and suddenly got people like, yeah, you know,
I got the bird rights over there. Oh yeah, you know,
we need to get rid of We got to get
rid of this guy. Everyone's an expert, and it was
it's a franchise, and honestly, fan base been born on
third base. I mean, that's not the great Jim Harbaugh comment,
(32:38):
and it's just it's a pretty wild case study if
you look at from the moment they moved to Oklahoma
City when they had Kevin Durant, and then they drafted
Russell Westbrook, and then the following year they drafted James Harden.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
There was a run there.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
In their first decade where they had only missed the
playoffs once and it was their first year, and by
the third season there in the West Conference finals.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
That just doesn't happen to teams that move.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
So Oklahoma City has been able to really get behind
a team that's been good consistently, and then when that
first version kind of moved on, I fell for this team.
I love Mark Dagnaal at their coach. I think he's
very good. I think it's a young, fun bunch to watch.
And if you just want to say, hey, you're sitting
here pumping up SGA as a guy who can be
(33:26):
the face of the league because you live in Oklahoma
and you're a homer, I don't really know how to
defend that except to say, watch I don't really know
what to say except.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
You got it.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
If you think that's just homerism, then you're not paying
attention because they're the best team in the league. He's
the best player in the league right now, and people
are not wanting to give them the attention they deserve
because they still view it as a.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
Small market and it is.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
But if you take the time to watch him, you're like,
oh damn, this guy's good and he's funny. He's a
funny dude. He's got a great personality. Just decided this
week that he's gonna represent himself. I don't know what
that means outside of not having a pay agent fees.
But if you just want to paint and say, oh,
you're a home er, what do you know?
Speaker 3 (34:09):
It's fine.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
I can't defend that too much. I would challenge you
to say, if you watch, I think you'd see the
same thing that a majority of us are seeing. All right,
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. We'll get a
break when we come back. Want to shift to some
of your tweets and listen, the Eagles are Super Bowl champs,
but did we miss on the team that could have
and should have beat them. We'll talk about it coming
(34:29):
up right here on Fox Sports Radio. Listen nature Boy
on Twitter, which is again something I still can't get
used to calling X. Maybe you find me at Plank
Show if you start bringing up the quarterback carousel. Brie
knows it already. Mark knows it. It's like my weakness.
It's like dangling crack in front of a crack head.
(34:50):
It's like putting chocolate cake in front of a four
hundred pound man.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
It's like, I just can't stop.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
I am so infatuated with the court back carousel, and like,
what your Saints are gonna do, what my Raiders are
gonna do? Is there anything to the Matt Stafford rumors?
So if you guys are okay with it, I'd like
to kick off next hour talking about the quarterback carousel,
(35:17):
then that the hour after that, and then the hour.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
I mean, if you think about it, there is a
chance that we're looking at if let's just say the
Stafford deal happens, which I I just I don't think
the Stafford deal is gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
I'll explain well here in just a second. I understand
the contractual nature of it. I understand the age, I
understand the health, I get it all.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
But the.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
I mean, you look up and down this league right now,
with only two projected quarterbacks going in the first round,
right and I think that number could change.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
I really do.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
I think you could see three, maybe even a fourth
slip in. But we'll get into that closer to the
actual draft. But Jets, Steelers, Brown's, Colts, Titans, Raiders. That's
six teams in the AFC. Giants, you know, I don't
(36:17):
know if anything's going to change in the NFC North,
but there is. There is the decision you got to
make on Sam Darnold, right, so that would.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
All right, that would get you to eight.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
You add your Saints, that's nine, and then there's a
decision to be made in Seattle at ten, the rumors
in with the Rams. That's eleven, and there's a decision
to be in San Francisco. I mean, listen, I'm pushing
when I say almost half the league, because what do
we get to their twelve by just kind of pushing you?
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Look, you're almost half the league.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
Bring that can have a quarterback change this year if
a series of deals go down, that's wild to me.
Speaker 5 (36:55):
I don't think it's ever happened before like this.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
It's crazy. It's crazy, and it's marquee teams. The Steelers
are a marquee franchise that to me, have always been
known for their quarterback stability.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
It's you always knew the Steelers starting quarterback was. If
it wasn't Terry Bradshaw, it well there was. I don't
want to get too carried away here. There was a
run where uh where's my girl?
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Sooner?
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Lisa Atton that I think there was a Mark Malone phase.
There was a there was a little Bubby Brister era
that was in there for the Steelers for a minute.
But you know, you got you got things going with
Big Ben who was there forever and you kind of
felt like that maybe getting Kenny Picket they had round two,
but it never really worked out.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
But the Steelers need a quarterback.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
The Giants, the New York Football Giants need a freaking quarterback.
I think the Raiders are still a big deal. But
I'm a Raiders fan, so that's probably a homeristic take.
And you have a guy that took a team to
the NFC Championship game into the last three years that
might you be looking for a big contract and we
(38:03):
don't know if his team's gonna give it to him.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
But I'll tell you what I'm not buying.
Speaker 2 (38:08):
I'm not buying the Stafford stuff because I saw this
today from Darius Slay, and I guess Slay is another
one of those dudes that has a podcast because everybody
has to have a podcast, or at the very least
he was a guest on a podcast, and whenever he
was asked, hey, who came the closest to taking you
guys out in the playoffs?
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Who were you guys?
Speaker 2 (38:29):
I guess maybe worried about the most lit'sten to what
Darius Slay said.
Speaker 11 (38:33):
The scores when we play teams. You know what I'm saying,
I think the closest team to us. Honestly, in his postseason,
what's the round? I think the Rounds had the best
chance of beating us in the whole postseason. In my opinion,
it was complete.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
They played.
Speaker 11 (38:42):
They could get out of the quarterback, but it could
have stoped to run as much as good but they
had a great offense and a great offense like they
was good at what they did. It was very good
at what it did. Like people comparing regular season in
the posts, that's not the same.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
It's that. And it's funny because I kind of felt
the same way when I was looking at their path.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
One of those moments where I was like, damn, Eagles
might go to the super Bowl because the lines are
deemed up. Washington knocked them out. Minnesota kind of proved
to be a little bit fake this year. We'll see
next year when they get out when they get JJ
McCarthy Alfie. So I tend to agree with them, and
the reason that the Rams weren't able to beat the
(39:21):
Eagles had nothing to do with quarterback play and nothing
to do with matt Stafford and had everything to do
with their inability to stop the run. So to me,
I agree with Darius Slay. That's why I can't buy
any in any of this Matthew Stafford quarterback move. Why
would you do this if you're the Rams, when you're
so close and everything is so much up in the
(39:41):
air in the rest of the NFC West.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
I don't think it's a move you make.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
But we'll talk about the rest of the KB situations next.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
Don't listen the Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
Is Bill self.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Job Hunting will dive into that coming up as we
kick off hour two. It's the play Show come to
you live from the tire rack dot Com studios. Tire
rack dot Com will help you get there and unmatch
the selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection, and
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack dot com the
(40:14):
way tire buying should be. I go ahead and give
this disclaimer because inevitably there'll be people asking because Bernie
is such a popular dude. This Bernie made the decision
to cut back to one night, and I jumped at
the opportunity to hang out with Bree Mark and you guys,
it's gonna be weird because this week Bernie's on vacation,
so you get to three of us again tomorrow night.
(40:37):
So just prepare you if you don't like me, Oh
my god, this is a terrible weekend for you. And
I apologize, like, I don't really like me, so I
completely and totally get it. But I will talk a
lot about football now. If I start getting into the
college football spring football world, that might be the moment
where you're like, Okay, he's delirious. All he wants to
(40:59):
talk about a spring football and recruiting. We need to
move on. You Just let me know, Okay, he got it,
Just to see no one cares about recruiting, plank.
Speaker 3 (41:08):
Stop it.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
Get back over on your local show and talk about
junior days and then you'll be good to go. I
will say, I hope you people understand you people the
sacrifice I'm making for you tonight, because for those of
you that are listening in the Bible Belt, we are
still in the throes of an unbelievable cold front. Uh
(41:32):
Brianna Mark. My kids were home from school for three
days this week. I nearly lost my mind. Tuesday, Wednesday,
and Thursday schools were out. Now I'm just gonna go
ahead and tell you teachers deserve to be paid more.
But man, I could really really go for you guys,
(41:55):
like gutting it through maybe one day and trying to
get in even if the roads are bad for the
rest of ouranity.
Speaker 3 (42:01):
But in all.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
Seriousness, I am sitting here tonight in a studio that
is nineteen degrees because I love you guys. Now the
feels like temperature is twelve. We got a heater, so
we're okay. But remark, go ahead and let me know
what the temperature is in the tire rack dot Com studios,
so I can be a little bit envious right now.
You're not twelve, right.
Speaker 5 (42:22):
No, it's definitely not. Probably inside the studios we're probably
at like a good seventy and then outside it's a
good fifty eight degrees.
Speaker 2 (42:31):
Gosh, what's crazy is it's twelve degrees right now. There's
a really good chance when we're doing this show tomorrow
it is gonna be like fifty and nice.
Speaker 6 (42:42):
Please, I have no sympathy for you because I grew
up in Chicago and went I went home to visit
and it was ten the entire week I was there.
Oh no sun, ten degrees the entire week.
Speaker 3 (42:56):
So I understand what you're going through.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
But yeah, hey, listen, I don't expect your sympathy. All right,
I get it, I understand it. I can handle it.
Just maybe every so often be like, man, this guy
is really fighting for us. Tonight a couple of good
tweets from our one. It's the best way to stay
in touch with the show. I'm at Plank Show, Brie.
Speaker 3 (43:18):
Is this right? Is that Bree Denise twenty six six?
Speaker 5 (43:22):
Kyle Klover, that's right, and you.
Speaker 2 (43:24):
Can always find us at Fox Sports Radio. We got
into the conversation about the face of the NBA. You know,
I felt like Charles Barkley had some interesting comments about
you don't just anoint someone, they got to go take it,
and I feel like, you know, Mark brought up Anthony
Edwards and this maybe been a little bit of a
tough year for him. I tend to fall on the
(43:45):
side of, hey, you've got a guy that's taking the
face to the league right now. Just no one wants
to embrace him. That's Shay Gilgess Alexander with the thunder
Gunner agreed with me, Gunner rights, I'm with you on
SGA and I'm a Wolves fans. He's he's that dude.
He really is Ossias, which maybe has the best point
on Twitter. It's the problem with being the face of
(44:06):
the NBA is that there is no one that has
the flash or the flare of MJ, Kobe Magic and
others that did it every night, not just every second
or third night, and none of them took a night off. Damn,
that's true. That's true. I mean you go back even
to his final Sorry I'm pulling the blanket around me.
(44:27):
You go back to his final year with Washington. What's
the great stat about Michael Jordan? He played every game.
He played every game. You just don't have that anymore
in the league. Some would say that part of it
is because I get fine for not having my ringer off.
Some of them would say that part of it is
because we've gotten smarter. You shouldn't have to go out
and play every game, right, You get paid regardless, it's
(44:49):
guaranteed contracts, but it's better on your body and when
do you need to be your best at the end
of the season. Right, It makes sense, but it also
doesn't make it any easier for fai stomach, or it
doesn't make it an even better look for your franchise
or for your team.
Speaker 3 (45:05):
That's for certain. I guess franchising team's pretty much the
same thing.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
But you know, I just don't know if you could
have had a week then win worse for the NBA,
I really don't. Not only did you have your All
Star Game lead to more questions about where the league is.
Not only did you have your All Star game kind
of suck, but you then had the NHL just stealing
the show with the creation of maybe the least popular
commissioner in all of sports.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
And it was amazing. It was amazing.
Speaker 2 (45:33):
The Four Nations face off could not have gone better,
I mean, outside of Canada winning, but from a publicity,
from a TV perspective, from an interest, I mean, there's
certain moments that you remember, and I gauge a lot
by social media reaction and seeing what people are talking about,
(45:54):
and there's not a lot of times when we're all on.
Speaker 3 (45:56):
The same page in really truly enjoying something.
Speaker 2 (46:00):
It's almost impossible right, but maybe the debut of Shark
Nato was one. And then there was the Four Nations
face off, and I don't know, you know, I don't know, Bri,
how you feel about it. I don't know if it's
suddenly going to be a situation where we're going to
come in on Friday nights in the Saturday mornings and
the phone lines are going to be full of people
(46:20):
wanted to talk about the Kachuks and how things are
going with the Blues or if the Kings have got
the right chemistry to make a run.
Speaker 3 (46:29):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
I doubt it, but at the very least it's peauked
my interest. You know, I'm gonna these guys have already
been stars, but for a lot of them, they've gotten
my attention for the rest of this season.
Speaker 3 (46:44):
And we've got round two hopefully between US and Canada
next year with the Olympics, and then you got Round
three with the World Hockey Classics.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
So I mean, NBA definitely got smoked in a week
that it used to own. But before we talk NFL playoffs,
and before we get back to the phone, are sorry
NFL quarterbacks, And before we get back to the phones,
a simple question, Bree, do you think this momentum carries
over for the NHL based on how popular the four
(47:13):
Nation's face off was?
Speaker 7 (47:14):
I think it will, especially because the NBA is just
so down right now. And then also I feel like
just with like hockey playoffs, that is something that everybody
does kind of gain an interest in. Like when when
hockey play When the NHL playoffs start, I do pay
attention because there's just something super different about playoff hockey.
And so I think this stretch of the hockey season,
people are going to pay attention just because of this,
(47:36):
which I think is great. You know, we need something
that's interesting because NBA isn't offering anything right now.
Speaker 3 (47:42):
It's not doing it. It's not getting done. It's not
get it done.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
So eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven
seven nine ninety six six three sixth nine. Oh and
you know, speaking of the the NHL, we are we're
back tomorrow night, all right, I guess on the Central
and Eastern time zones, we're back tonight. You know, you
got a myriad of games. Let's see what the what
the buzz and what the talk looks like. You know,
(48:05):
I just it's it's so wild to me to see
it's an All Star event essentially, and these guys there's
not there's no golden medal, there's not a there's not
even I think a fancy trophy that came with it
was there, and maybe I missed that part.
Speaker 3 (48:22):
I turned it pretty quickly after Canada's game winning goal.
Speaker 7 (48:25):
There was a trophy. Yeah, they kind of did their
usual thing or every player.
Speaker 2 (48:29):
But it wasn't some sort of in depth historical no piece.
It's just and it seemed like it was the most
important thing that any of them had ever played for.
There was a great meme that was making the rounds
and I'm gonna paraphrase it all screw it up. NBA player,
uh slight slight discomfort in ankle. I'm gonna sit out
(48:52):
the All Star game. NHL player. I'm ready to die
for my country for this meaningless exhibition game. And that's
the persona, that's the idea that you took from it,
and I just I felt like it was a good
week for hockey needed one too.
Speaker 3 (49:06):
I'll say this.
Speaker 2 (49:07):
I'll say this, by the way, this is a crutch
and it's something I'm gonna say a lot, So just
prepare yourself.
Speaker 3 (49:12):
I'll say this, I think.
Speaker 2 (49:14):
ESPN would be wise to look at potentially doing something
with the NHL in that Sunday night slot.
Speaker 3 (49:20):
You know.
Speaker 2 (49:20):
The Sunday Night Baseball to me is I don't know
what it looks like ratings wise, but it is it's
a pretty I.
Speaker 3 (49:29):
Feel like Sunday night TV viewing.
Speaker 2 (49:32):
After the NFL there there's nothing that really takes hold
of us, and then Sunday Night Baseball comes along and
at the very least you're supposed to get the best
matchups in Major League Baseball week in and week out.
I think maybe it could be something big for hockey.
And I know you have and everyone's so. I already
have Friday nights, I already have Tuesdays, you have nobody's watched.
(49:55):
Maybe you can try to create something there, but we'll see.
You know, hockey continually does things that are different, whether
you watch them or not, and they're gonna continue to
try to do things that are unique. I mean, you're
gonna get You're gonna get a Blue Jackets Red Wings
game that's gonna be part of the Stadium series and
(50:20):
it's gonna be played Tomorrow night. Is that Tomorrow Night
is that next week inside. Yes, that's next week, that's
next Saturday night. That's gonna be played inside Ohio State Stadium.
I mean it's gonna be played in Columbus where the
Buckeyes play.
Speaker 12 (50:37):
That's freaking awesome question. Please go ahead, Mark, does hockey?
Is it starting to peak your interest? Because hockey teams
you can see their excitement, their enthusiasm versus basketball players
are a bunch of individuals that have to be on
the team and they want the fans to be more
(50:59):
interested than they are.
Speaker 2 (51:00):
I think part of it is the country tie. And
I don't mean like bro country, I mean US versus Canada.
I think that sucked a lot of us in. Yes,
but you carry that passion over for a King's Utah
Hockey Club matchup tomorrow night at nine o'clock Eastern.
Speaker 3 (51:17):
Okay, all right, let's go. I'll be there for it.
Speaker 2 (51:21):
You carry that passion over the next week when we're
playing inside the home of the Ohio State Buck Guys.
All right, I'm here for it. That's a good question.
I think that you know that goes back to the
that goes back to the PK. Suman line about hey, nobody,
nobody cares about the NBA because the players don't care.
Let me let me read this from Crystal and then
we'll get to the phones, because I think, I think
(51:43):
this is really good, Crystal Rights. I grew up watching
the NBA religiously throughout the nineties and early two thousands.
All these current players are I'll clean it up because
even though I did take my FCC test, I don't
want to get in trouble. All these current players are woosies.
(52:03):
It's very hard to watch. I'm patiently though, waiting for
the playoffs. That is the thing, though, Isn't that a
wild card that the NBA has that you feel like
a flip does switch and everybody's a go in the playoffs.
It's just a matter of where teams are by the
time they get there. I think that is one trump
card that the NBA has. Oh no, he made it
(52:26):
about politics. That's not what I meant. Eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine ninety six
six three six nine. I do want to get to
the quarterbacks. I do want to get to the quarterbacks.
We'll do it coming up in a bit, But anytime
Blind Scott is on hold, I want to get to him.
Scott is in Boston. Good morning, Scott. How are you
out on the East coast?
Speaker 13 (52:48):
Hey with so Chrissy. I got you notification ton on
social media. I follow you usually when you fill in
for Mad Scott Christophers. Yeah, I love that. I love it.
I hope they hire you full time on that show.
You'd be great by any of these channels. Dude them.
It's freezing here in Boston. The Four Nation Classic, I
played college hockey. I thought it was really good. I
(53:09):
just you know, I'm not I'm not in agreement with
the with the current administration, so it's look at bad
time and for me, so it gave me this wicked,
like deep seated feeling of like I didn't want to
be there, but actually I live right next to the
Boston Garden, so I was able to interact with the
crowd and watch the game and get like a live
feeling for it. So it was nine hundred dollars a ticket.
(53:30):
I was impressed by all the people from Saint Louis, Like,
I know they could chucks are from Saint Louis, but Keith,
Keith could chuck it from Malden. Mass choot that you
went to Malden Catholic High School, the big you know,
he left here. But they got a huge Southern crowd
in hockey now though you can see them. They want
to spend money on it. They just uh, they can't
market the game. But it's because it's such a niche sport.
(53:53):
It costs so much to buy all that equipment for
your kid. I mean, I don't know how much it
is now like three grandy year and then you go
to trout. But the hockey parents are let me describe
a hockey parent. You go ahead, Yeah, there's psychoes. They
stand at the hockey rink. They wear all their winter clothes,
like a full winter jacket. They think they know everything
about hockey. Everything that has to do with hockey only
(54:15):
involves their kid because they've invested so much money into it,
and they want their kid on the best team and
they want their kid to be the best, and they
want their kid to think hockey all the time. And
they pick them up after school and they bring them
right to hockey. That's why people are so indoctrinated into hockey.
And it's hard to crack the hockey crowd.
Speaker 4 (54:33):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (54:33):
I agree, But Scott, can I just ask for one clarification,
When you said you had a problem with the administration,
do you mean the front office of the NHL or
do you mean more the front office of the United
States of America.
Speaker 13 (54:45):
Oh, I get both both.
Speaker 9 (54:47):
But like.
Speaker 13 (54:49):
I'm a socialist and I'd like to move to Montreal,
you know what I mean. But me and Ben mall
Me and Ben Maller have like epic battles. We've been
friends for like eighteen years. We battled out about politics
and email all the time. But I hate you know,
I've also want to hear like I don't think Brandon
knows this because I'm such a big fan. You're like
(55:10):
you have like a locker that you prep. I do
this too, Like you prep can goods and canned food
in case you can't get to the grocery store. You know,
I always find that so fascinating when you talk about that,
Like one night that stock market went really read Chris,
and you go like, I got to stock up in
my doomsday a little closet.
Speaker 3 (55:26):
Yeah, that's how you call it. And I appreciate the call.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
Blind Scott. This is just so we're clear. I am
not a doomsday prepper. My wife is all right, and
I don't know. I think she's planning on us crapping
all over the place because apparently the only thing we
have to prep for this is toilet paper. So we're
gonna be good on that front. One night, one night,
(55:50):
and it was it was a night I was doing
the show, Brie. Yeah, one night whenever I was in
the show, we were having a rough time. I just guessing,
like he said, there was a stock market crash and
everyone's kind of freaking out. And I noticed that there
was like thousands of dollars that were spent on Amazon.
And I went and I'm like, Babe, I think we
(56:11):
got hacked, And she said no. I panicked, and so
I bought us a solar panel, and I bought us
a generator, and I bought us So Scott, we're ready.
We're ready, buddy, We're ready to go. But it's not
like my doing. I listen. I'm just one of those
guys that if if the doomsday is coming, I'll just
(56:32):
go with them. Yeah, yeah, I'm out. I'll see you guys.
I've had a good run. You know, it's pretty fun.
I get to do my dream job. So yeah, oh my.
Speaker 3 (56:40):
God, would you consider yourself a prepper at all, you know.
Speaker 7 (56:43):
I actually I did just purchase that like an earthquake kit.
There you go, okay, And but that's I think as
far as I go. And I drink all my waters,
like I love Evyon, so I get like my boxes
of Evyon, but like I don't save them.
Speaker 5 (56:56):
I just drink them. So I should probably have like
an extra like you know, for back up.
Speaker 7 (57:00):
But yeah, but the one little backpack of like you know,
canned stuff and like a knife or whatever, you know
kind of thing.
Speaker 3 (57:07):
We're ready, we go.
Speaker 2 (57:08):
We are ready if if the end of the world comes,
the Plank household will be ready.
Speaker 5 (57:14):
Well book our flight to Laholma. Mark and I are
are ready to go.
Speaker 2 (57:18):
But I do want to make this very clear. A
blind Scott. Well, I appreciate the praise. It has nothing
to do with me and everything to do with my wife.
She might be a little bit right of Alex Jones.
So we're we're ready to go with anything that happens
on that front. Me personally, I'm like, where do I
need to go? Where do I need to be? What
zombies do I need to fight before we break? Let
me get Jay from Kentucky in here. Good morning, Jay.
(57:39):
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (57:40):
Bud?
Speaker 14 (57:41):
Hey Chris? Really, I just was wanting to maybe hear
your take on the PK subon rant. If you've heard that,
I don't know if you guys wanted to play that sound.
Speaker 3 (57:54):
You would want, I would have played.
Speaker 14 (57:56):
Wanted to get your take.
Speaker 2 (57:57):
On Jay real quick, because I'm gonna play when we
Where did you stand on it?
Speaker 14 (58:02):
Oh? I just heard it on Cavino and Rich today
they were filling in for Cowherd.
Speaker 3 (58:09):
What did you think? Where'd you come out? Who'd you
come out on it?
Speaker 14 (58:12):
I'll just say this for me, I only watched the
NBA and Baseball during the playoffs because I just can't
watch stuff that I feel like the meaningless games. You know,
like if it's not like, if there's not something on
the line, they don't try, and you know it's I will.
I'm specifically with NBA, but with baseball, it's just so saturated.
(58:36):
There's so many games. It's like it feels like the
games are almost meaningless as well, there's so many of them.
Speaker 2 (58:43):
Oh all right, well, I appreciate the phone call. So
you would be a minimalist boy? Wait, we go from
we go from talking about preppers to a minimalist, but
I don't. He loves sports, right what I'm taking from
Jay loves sports, but not really going to be someone
that gets too carried away.
Speaker 3 (59:00):
There's nothing on the line.
Speaker 2 (59:01):
The PK Sue Ban rant from first take was brilliant
and well done, and I want to play it when
we come back because I think it's worth diving into
a little bit deeper. You know, there's also this part
of me now that we're sitting here saying so many
bad things about the NBA, and I love the league.
So I love the association so much that I do
want to stand up and fight back and say.
Speaker 3 (59:23):
But whoa, whoa, whoa? Hold on?
Speaker 2 (59:25):
You got what's going on in some of these smaller
markets you need to embrace.
Speaker 3 (59:29):
But I don't. I don't even know if I can
win that fight. I don't.
Speaker 2 (59:33):
I'm just I'm still gonna lose because no one's gonna
pay attention to what's going on in Oka, see, because
it's not gonna be the biggest story.
Speaker 3 (59:41):
We'll play that rant next with Brion Mark.
Speaker 2 (59:44):
I'm Chris Plank Company live from the Tirack dot Com studios,
rolling through the night right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (59:50):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search f SR
to listen live.
Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
All right, welcome back into the show. I see my
man Shady.
Speaker 2 (01:00:08):
Sean is disappointed that we haven't talked enough about the Titans.
And it's a fair point, Sean, because the hilarious thing
in all the NFL draft talk that we've had is
you have a team with the number one pick that
needs a quarterback, and there's two potential quarterbacks that could
(01:00:30):
go number one, and their GM comes out and says,
we're not going to We're not gonna pass on a
generational talent. So everyone thinks, oh, Travis Hunter is gonna
go one. He jumps up to being the number one picks,
then the favorite to be the number one pick for
a while in the offshore markets, and then Abdul Carter
made to run. But then it's like everyone kind of
(01:00:52):
stops talking about the Titans, like, Okay, that's great. Now
what's going to happen after the Titans? It's like, yeah,
they got the number one pick, all right, what else
is happening in the draft?
Speaker 3 (01:01:00):
So I feel you sean.
Speaker 2 (01:01:02):
No, no slander towards the Titans tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:01:07):
I promise you that.
Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
But I will say I'm gonna find next week's the combine,
and I'm gonna find it fascinating because two guarantees I
will make any upcoming combine two guarantees. Number one, you're
gonna see everyone lose their minds over the numbers that
Jalen Milroe puts up.
Speaker 3 (01:01:27):
We're gonna lose their minds.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
He I got a little research to do, and maybe
I'm not as far along in my draft prep as
I should be, and we got time, but I personally
think he's gonna run the fastest time a quarterback's ever run,
and it might not even be close. And you know
what's gonna happen. There's gonna be someone somewhere that's like
I can fix them. I can fix If we did
(01:01:49):
it with Anthony Richardson, we're gonna do with Jalen Milroe.
So that's number one, And I think number two, I
think running backs are going to be the most fascinating
position combine.
Speaker 3 (01:02:01):
I really do. But we got plenty of time before
we get the shot.
Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
I will not allow that slander here tonight on Fox
Sports Radio. In the meantime, Jay and Kentucky had brought
up the PK Sue band rant, and.
Speaker 3 (01:02:14):
I have you all got to hear Brie? Have you
heard this yet?
Speaker 13 (01:02:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:02:17):
Okay, good, I heard. I was.
Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
I was watching it live my radio show that I
do locally on our affiliate ninety nine point three FM
and fourteen hundred AM and Norman the Ref. It's all
of the debate shows are on during my show, so
I always see what's being talked about and I never
really hear it. And when I heard this one from PK,
I was like, Okay, this is good stuff right here.
Speaker 15 (01:02:41):
You're really about sports. Then you're about two things, your
teammates and the fans. And I'm sorry, it doesn't matter
how much money you're making. When you do not show
up to play, you're letting your teammates down. When you
do not show up to play, you're letting the fans
down that are paying you forty fifty sixty million. I
don't care if you're getting three hundred million, congratulations, But
(01:03:04):
these people in here are paying twenty five hundred dollars
a ticket five grand that are blue collared, hard working people.
If you don't get your head wrapped around that you
shouldn't be in pro sports because how are we gonna grow?
How do we expect you to be an example? Well,
guess what you don't want to be.
Speaker 3 (01:03:20):
You are one.
Speaker 15 (01:03:21):
You're on the biggest stage. You just said it. They
make the most money. You're an example. You gotta show up.
You got to take that on. I'm sick and tired
of making athletes greats, all time greats that aren't the
best examples. Those are the people that we want our
kids to follow. That we want athletes to follow. That
helps us in our game.
Speaker 13 (01:03:41):
Stephen A.
Speaker 15 (01:03:42):
You want athletes to be educated on this and understand this.
They got to understand the importance of showing up to
the All Star Game and being on the court and
playing bang duck sometimes and playing injured maybe at times,
thank you, and participating.
Speaker 3 (01:03:55):
Because here's the thing.
Speaker 15 (01:03:57):
Because you're making one hundred two hundred three hundred million, you.
Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
Should be out there banged up. You should be. That's
why we pay you is to max out.
Speaker 15 (01:04:07):
We talk about greatness in it being the longevity of
somebody's career. I don't care if you play fifty years.
I want your best ten. I want you on the court, dominating.
I want you to go all out. I want Michael Jordan,
I want Kolbe. That's what I want in every sport.
That's the guy that I follow. You're a different version
than that. You don't get my respect.
Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
By the way, I think the best part of the
PK Suban rant was that it was taking place while
practice was going on behind him. It's literally that was
I think it was on the Wednesday. It was that
Wednesday night or Thursday night, uh, Thursday night, sorry, the
Thursday night of the of the championship in the Four
(01:04:48):
Nations face and he's you know, he's not trying to
say or at least I don't think he is. Hockey
people care more than the NBA. I think what he's
pointing out is you gotta you got to go all
out for the fans. And I feel like somewhere we
lost sight of this. I bring this up a lot
and at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. I'm
(01:05:10):
grateful for those of you who are able to go
to sporting events, go to life sporting events and enjoy
and embrace your teams, because I couldn't afford to with
what some of.
Speaker 3 (01:05:22):
These ticket prices are I couldn't afford to I can't.
I can afford to go to like preseason games, and
I can probably afford to go to if you look
on the sub hubs or the ticket brokers of the world,
whenever it's like, ahh, here's tickets, you can get it
for eight bucks. You know what he's talking about, with
the tickets being nine hundred dollars two thousand dollars. I
(01:05:45):
would like to imagine a scenario where I can go
to my wife, it's a bay we can go see
the Raiders in the super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
It's only going to cost us too grand a ticket.
You know, I get laughed out of the building. But
yet the sacrifice is that I know many of you
have to make to do that. And even you know
I said super Bowl, we can go even smaller than that,
right to go to something like a four nation's face
off or an All Star Game. You think those All
Star Game tickets were cheap? With that garbage that the
(01:06:15):
NBA gay fans in the Bay Area, No, so I
liked it anything else. Bring before you get a couple
of calls on this, you want to add to what
PK had to say there.
Speaker 3 (01:06:25):
No, I think I thought it was great.
Speaker 5 (01:06:27):
He was perfect. I think it hit everything.
Speaker 3 (01:06:29):
All right, Let's go to the phones.
Speaker 2 (01:06:30):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine ninety six six three sixth nine.
Speaker 3 (01:06:36):
Pete is up in Massachusetts. What's going on? Pete? Welcome
to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (01:06:42):
How was it going?
Speaker 13 (01:06:42):
Man?
Speaker 16 (01:06:43):
Honestly, I forget what I was gonna say, but what
you were just saying about?
Speaker 4 (01:06:47):
How you ask your wife?
Speaker 13 (01:06:48):
No, you ask your dad. You bring your dad. If
you can't, you asked your dad.
Speaker 10 (01:06:54):
Let's still this game.
Speaker 16 (01:06:55):
Let's have a fucking bond up and then you can.
Speaker 13 (01:07:00):
We'll never say no.
Speaker 3 (01:07:02):
Gotcha? Gotcha? Thanks, Pete, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (01:07:04):
Let's listen.
Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
If there's one thing I used to love overnight radio.
I love.
Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
I mean, we're doing overnight radio and the king of
overnight radio, Art Bell, he had two rules.
Speaker 3 (01:07:16):
Do you guys ever listen to Art Bell? Two rules?
What was this?
Speaker 2 (01:07:19):
Two rules? Only one call per show and no bad language.
Pete already broke the rule no bad language. Now I'm
not going to sit here from like my ivory tower
and pretend like I have some sort of clean bill
of health when it comes to my language. I'm as
big of a potty mouth as there is. Ask Brion
(01:07:41):
Mark with what they deal with during the breaks, but
at least for the sake of this program, Pete, don't
get me fired in my second show. All right, to
Doug in San Diego, he's got the weather. Hey, Doug,
welcome to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
What's going on?
Speaker 17 (01:07:56):
Man, my guy, my only friend. It's good to hear you.
I kind of missed your other half, but I love
you guys on Sunday night, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
Thanks mast to going solo.
Speaker 9 (01:08:06):
Eh.
Speaker 2 (01:08:07):
I've got my Steve Perry here on Friday night, so
we'll make it happen.
Speaker 17 (01:08:11):
I want to talk about the Raiders with you because
I'm concerned. I heard something today earlier on Fox Sports
Radio that Tom Brady had nothing to do with the
hiring of uh uh the coach. Yeah, and that it
was a completely uh.
Speaker 3 (01:08:32):
Mark Mark Davis.
Speaker 17 (01:08:34):
Yeah, yeah, his decision. Now that kind of blew my
mind again. You know what a bad decision maker Mark
Davis is.
Speaker 10 (01:08:43):
And uh, but I love the decision.
Speaker 4 (01:08:47):
I like.
Speaker 17 (01:08:48):
I think Pete Carroll's going to do a great job there,
but he needs a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:08:52):
I think Tom Brady, what do you know when you
heard this by chance.
Speaker 17 (01:08:57):
Yeah, I heard it earlier tonight. It was from that
the guy in Miami, the writer.
Speaker 2 (01:09:03):
Oh okay, I don't think that's right now. I guess yeah,
he plugged in dude. But I think Tom Brady was
intricately involved in Pete Carroll. And I think whenever Tom
Brady took over, as you know, a part owner of
the Raiders, I think that he had three guys and
(01:09:23):
he wanted to be the Raiders head coach. I think
he wanted Ben Johnson. I think he wanted Bill Belichick,
and then I think that his third choice was was
Pete Carroll. Maybe Steve Spagnola was in there as well, right,
but Belichick made it clear he wasn't coming back.
Speaker 3 (01:09:39):
They.
Speaker 2 (01:09:40):
I don't know if they got played by Ben Johnson
or what happened there, But I'm with you, man and Doug.
I appreciate the call. I'm used to the Raiders doing
stupid stuff. It's been that way a majority of my
adult life. Right when I was nine years old, actually,
when I was eight years old, the Raiders went the
Super Bowl and won it, and they had just won
(01:10:02):
it three years earlier, and I thought to myself, my gosh,
how great of the life am I going to have
as a Raiders fan?
Speaker 3 (01:10:10):
Well, it didn't quite turn out that way, but I
don't Again.
Speaker 2 (01:10:15):
You can go back and forth, and I'm not gonna
sit here and say that a tie a tied end
insider is necessarily incorrect. There could be eight different levels
of a story and several different types of involvements. I
don't think that Mark Davis is just gonna is just
gonna say, hey, go hire whoever you want, Tom Brady.
(01:10:35):
But I do think Tom Brady was key in not
only getting Pete Carroll, but in helping definitely to get
Spytech there as a general manager. I thought that was massive. Now,
just for the sake of the show, Doug, let's reconvene
tomorrow night, buddy, and maybe we can go more in
depth on the Raiders, because I'm so curious about the
(01:10:56):
quarterback decision here and what could be next. Think there
could be as many as six different dudes that could
start at quarterback for the Raiders in opening weekend, and
I can name the six I think it could be
right now, and it could end up being none of them.
It could be someone completely different. Let's try Massachusetts one
more time before we break. Chuck is in Massachusetts. What's
(01:11:17):
going on?
Speaker 3 (01:11:17):
Chuck? Welcome to Fox Sports, Marcy.
Speaker 4 (01:11:19):
Yeah, I'm pumped up.
Speaker 18 (01:11:20):
Aaron Rodgers might be over there.
Speaker 3 (01:11:22):
And that's one of them. That's one of them.
Speaker 13 (01:11:24):
Yeah, listen.
Speaker 9 (01:11:26):
So I just want to talk Patriots two minutes.
Speaker 18 (01:11:28):
I want to pick it for we have to say
so the Patriots have the most caps base. They just
hired Mike Brable. Mike Brable just brought in all his guys. Okay,
we have, like I just said, great, may so I'm
wondering we also have the fourth pick, a high second
round pick. I'm wondering what the move is that we're
gonna make. Do we trade for an elite receiver? Do
(01:11:50):
we try to do a dk metcalf Key Higgins. I'm
thinking Tyreek Hill may low key be on the market
for a high second round pick and a player. I'm
not shore, but one last thing you said, you're a
blue collar guy. You couldn't afford a ticket, But two
minutes prior, you just set your wife's out prepping buying those.
I know how much those cost money. So you can't.
Speaker 4 (01:12:10):
Poop a pooper.
Speaker 13 (01:12:11):
Okay, I'll respect the rule.
Speaker 4 (01:12:12):
You can't poop a pooper, my guy, I want here
you go.
Speaker 3 (01:12:17):
Let me.
Speaker 2 (01:12:18):
Let me just make it very clear, and I appreciate
the focal. That's a fair assessment, okay, but maybe I
should be clear. It's not like we had that money
to spend. So that's whenever I saw the amount of
things we'd bought, I was like, oh great, I hope
I get to fill in for Bernie a little bit
more because that's the only way we're going to make
it back.
Speaker 3 (01:12:36):
That's number one, fair point. You can call me on it.
I just know this much.
Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
If I had that discretionary income, there's no way hell
I would be allowed to use it on tickets. How's
that Number Two? Patriots, dude, I think it's the team
that can have the quickest turnaround. I think they can
pull something like the Commanders did this year.
Speaker 3 (01:12:57):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:12:58):
I don't think you're gonna be in a position where,
even if Tyreek Kill is on the market, that the
Dolphins are gonna deal with you.
Speaker 3 (01:13:06):
I just don't.
Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
But I mean, if you're sitting there where they are
the draft right now, you could do one of two things,
all right, and I know we're up against it, and
you hit me right in my power alley before we
got a break. But you're sitting it for if one
of those quarterbacks falls to four, let's say it's Sanders
or Ward, then I think you've got yourself a market
(01:13:31):
for the Raiders or for the Saints to potentially try
to move up, and maybe you can end up getting
a couple extra picks for that. Maybe I don't know
if it would be a big enough move for a
future first I like that a lot. I know there's
work to do on the offensive line, but man, I
dig me the idea of Travis Hunter in a Patriots uniform.
Speaker 3 (01:13:50):
I really do, I really do.
Speaker 2 (01:13:52):
And then you know, with your second round pick, and
you mentioned you got a high second round pick right now,
that's the thirty eighth pick. Maybe that's where you shore
up the interior of that offensive line a little bit,
right you. I think they've got a chance to turn
it around. I really do. I think they can be.
Speaker 3 (01:14:08):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:14:08):
I'm not saying they're gonna go to the AFC Championship Game,
but whenever we think about teams that can go from
worse to first next year.
Speaker 3 (01:14:16):
The Patriots are gonna be my number one pick. Now.
Speaker 2 (01:14:18):
Whenever I'm on Sunday Nights with Arnie. You know, he's
gonna bury the Patriots every chance he gets. But I
really really like I like their approach, I like their leadership,
and I wouldn't be trying to make a deal for
a wide receiver. I'd go I'd go try to sign
T Higgins and I'd make him my number one guy
and see how it goes. All right, get back to
(01:14:39):
the phones, your calls coming up at eighty seven seven
ninety nine on Fox. It's a plank show right here
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, it's a plank show.
I still get very confused, like, oh yeah, this is
our show. Now, this is Bernie. Is cut back to
one night, and Bernie's gonna be off tomorrow night. So
you're get a heavy dose of our crew this weekend.
(01:15:01):
Brion Mark, I'm playing eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
We've just been banging through your calls a lot of
different topics, and somehow the NFL is taken center stage.
But before we wrap up our number one, let's get
Jerome and Charleston in here. Good good morning. I guess
we would say, Jerome, how's it going, man?
Speaker 9 (01:15:22):
It's going okay, Chris, but uh, PK subon, let me
let me, let me get this right now.
Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
Go ahead.
Speaker 9 (01:15:29):
I watched up, I watched out hockey player who knew
what he was a damn about. Who's gonna get on
people's ball hockey? You know what, You're gonna have to
sedate me, drug me, tie me down to make me
watch a hockey match. Okay, I could care a left
about hockey. And PK's toubon. Don't think he's got going
is he in? Tiger Woods had relagous and.
Speaker 4 (01:15:52):
You know what I'm talking about.
Speaker 9 (01:15:54):
But live men that I got nothing for you about tk' suban. Okay,
I'm sorry, I'm just not tell them Cam Newton and
chieveing Age living these other goofballs. Look, I'm not I
can care less about it. Nine hundred dollars for a
hockey picking. Are you out of your mind? Chris? Are
you out of your mind? And you go sit in
(01:16:16):
the freezer for a couple miles?
Speaker 1 (01:16:18):
Look?
Speaker 9 (01:16:19):
Are you out of your mind? I'm going to freeze
my half off to go watch a hockey game at
paid nine hundred dollars. Hell no, I'm too practical, I'm
too grounded.
Speaker 6 (01:16:31):
Man.
Speaker 9 (01:16:32):
I can't help it. You're generation as a trip man.
Speaker 4 (01:16:35):
You know that you all been to handle.
Speaker 9 (01:16:37):
You'all must have had the bottomies or something, because you're
defied logic with the things you spend money on. I
mean like your doing Fans with a three hundred thousand
dollar watch, Tom Brady with a three quarters of a
million dollar watch. Somebody, somebody needs to go see somebody. Man,
I'm telling.
Speaker 3 (01:16:56):
You, I thanks Jo, I'm appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (01:16:59):
By the way, my generation, I just want to make
it I'm a very I'm a gen x er, so
I mean I'm not.
Speaker 3 (01:17:04):
I don't know. If I sound younger to you, that's great,
I'll wear it. My generation, yeah, my generation is not
painted as all the old people drome.
Speaker 2 (01:17:13):
In fact, I I drove by a car today that
had a not They don't do like bumper stickers anymore.
They're windows stickers, right, And the window stickers said shut
up gen x and the person in the car looked
older than me.
Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
I was like, what what is that supposed to mean?
I don't get it.
Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
Well, Jero, here's the thing, and I think you get this,
and I get this, and everyone listening gets it. It's
not about who you were as a player. It's not
about what you did as a player. When it comes
to you know who ESPN is going to throw up
there to say something crazy, How wild is your take?
How maybe the better?
Speaker 3 (01:17:52):
How much can you piss people off? Right?
Speaker 2 (01:17:54):
And I think in what PK said to a certain faction,
it makes a mad to me, I'm like, hell yeah, dude,
when I go to games, I want to see stars
play again. Going back to what I know, whenever I
last went to an Oklahoma City Thunder game, they played
the Bucks and no one for the Bucks played Yanna
(01:18:15):
set Out Middleton was still with them. I don't e
think Brook Lopez played in the game, And like, what
am I even doing here? Why are we doing this right?
And why am I here? Whenever the best players aren't
even playing in this game? And it was a waste
of money. So yeah, maybe that's me being smarter on
what I spend my dollars on. But I will say,
(01:18:36):
hockey hockey games and matches, the rings aren't always freezing cold.
Speaker 3 (01:18:41):
They're pretty nice.
Speaker 2 (01:18:41):
Actually, it's it's not what I'm dealing with right now,
dro And that's for certain, But I kind of I
guess you and I disagree on this.
Speaker 3 (01:18:48):
I liked what PK had to say. Who cares if.
Speaker 2 (01:18:51):
He's being a bit of a blow hard and being
overly dramatic and a little bit extra, that's what That's
what you're looking for in these roles.
Speaker 3 (01:18:58):
Hey, you watch, you consume it.
Speaker 2 (01:19:02):
You're the reason we're getting more of this because every
time they ask you, what do you like? Oh, we
like guys yelling their takes at us, So give me
more of that. But I thought, I thought he brought
up a good point for those unlike Jerome who's not
going to spend their money on things. When you do
go out and spend your money on things, at least
reward me by giving your best. All right, Well, keep
your calls rolling. I want to talk some NFL next.
(01:19:24):
We're just really getting started with a Plank show on
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:19:27):
Stick around.
Speaker 2 (01:19:30):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio Final Hour for
US company Alive from the tire rack dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (01:19:38):
Tirerac dot com will help.
Speaker 2 (01:19:41):
You get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free
road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire
rack dot com the way tire buying should be. All Right,
We've hit a myriad of topics. Tonight talked about the
face of the association conversation right, Charles Barkley seemed frustrated
(01:20:03):
by it. No one wants to really realize what's going
on in Oklahoma City. And yes, maybe that's a bit
of a Homer take. I think we all kind of
agree though Lebron's still the face of the NBA. It's
it's the reality of it and until he retires, that's
going to be the case. You watch any of the
(01:20:24):
debate shows, which I guess for a lot of you
drive the main topics in the sports world, it's usually
about Lebron, right, and after the Luca trade it became
more about the Lakers. But there's good basketball going on.
The problem is the association got worked this week by hockey,
and it's something you rarely see now to dovetail off
(01:20:45):
that does hockey carry over this moment? Do you see
suddenly more on Hey, what's going on with the Devils
or how are things out in LA with the Kings?
Where the Ducks? You know, do these types of conversations
get a little bit more fuel and juice for sports
fans Because of what we witnessed with the four nations
(01:21:06):
face off.
Speaker 3 (01:21:08):
My experience is that is usually short lived.
Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
I feel like everything that has country pride tied to
it is a short fix. But again, there's going to
be two more opportunities over the next few years to
see this flex again with the hockey.
Speaker 3 (01:21:28):
What am I saying with.
Speaker 2 (01:21:28):
The Olympics next year, the Winter Olympics and then the
World Hockey Classic.
Speaker 3 (01:21:33):
So that's one topic.
Speaker 2 (01:21:35):
We found ourselves laughing about the Yankees making it a
big deal that they're allowing guys to have beards now,
which I find hilarious. But I guess the other major
topic ended up being the NFL, which again I want
to get right to your calls. So like I said,
I see you there, Poppy, and I know you got
to pick for me tonight, and I see you Matt.
Give me just one second, because I feel like if
(01:21:58):
I kind of bust myself out before you get an
opportunity to even though I think I feel like who
was it wasn't Randy, they got me pretty good or
checked whenever he's pointing out that we did spend some money,
even though I like to claim how poor I am.
But if I call myself out before you get the
opportunity to do so, then it makes things a lot
easier for me and my massive ego. So I am
(01:22:22):
completely and totally addicted to the off season of the NFL.
There's just no if, ans or butts about it. I
can't get enough of it. And this year's off season
quarterback quarterback cycle is fascinating and I want to bust
myself out part two. I am very quick to dismiss
everything involved with the Matt stafford to the Giants blockbuster
(01:22:43):
trade rumors, but.
Speaker 3 (01:22:47):
There seems to be something there and it won't go away.
Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
What's the old adage, where there's smoke, there's fire, and
I'm starting to wonder if maybe there's a little bit
more fire than anyone might even anticipate. Daniel Jeremiah this
week had a conference call with the NFL media. My goal,
my goal is to have the actual audio from this
(01:23:13):
for tomorrow night's show. Bri let's put this down on
the list of things for tomorrow night's show with Dirk
talking about Luca, ESPN and the Major League Baseball shift,
and now what Daniel Jeremiah said, because I'm gonna do
the exact thing that I clowned on during the last break.
I'm going to read a quote quote Daniel Jeremiah in
(01:23:34):
his pre combined meeting with the media, the Stafford stuff.
I don't know if it's I don't know if there's
legs to it, but I know it has a lot
of people in personnel departments, general managers and others intrigued
in seeing what's going to transpire here with him in
the Rams. The fact that the Rams didn't just come
(01:23:55):
out and say he's not going anywhere has led a
lot of people to believe that it's a possibility. Now,
I think that's twofold. I think that's twofold. Number one,
are we in a world now where you have to
respond every rumor?
Speaker 3 (01:24:11):
Bree.
Speaker 2 (01:24:12):
It's in a world now where every single rumor that's
out there you have to respond to it. We saw
it last week with Trevor Lawrence and the Steelers right
where that it's not like the Jags came out and
said anything, but we all learned that Trevor Lawrence has
a no trade policy. He's like, well, I would have
liked to have known about it if it was real,
(01:24:32):
But it's not real yet. It doesn't stop and in
the world of the aggregators, right, we don't know what's
real and what is and anymore and any I mean
today I've found myself.
Speaker 3 (01:24:46):
I guess they're working on me.
Speaker 2 (01:24:47):
I'm watching like two hours of Peyton Hills highlights because
of the mL Football's Like, wow, Peyton Hills was amazing.
I'm like he had like one good year. I'm watching
old Arkansas games like damn, he was a freak. So
I guess what they're doing is working. But yet, do
you feel the need to respond to everything that's out there?
(01:25:08):
So I don't know about you, Bray, when you hear
that the Rams didn't come out immediately and shoot it
down and say nothing's happening. Couldn't that just fall under
the category of you don't have to respond to every
single rumor that's out there.
Speaker 7 (01:25:20):
And I kind of think that because he's just been
such a big fall he's a big part of their team, obviously,
I think you should respond to it or just be like,
you know, Stafford, you know, we're trying to work something out,
like you know, I don't know if it's we don't
know if it's actually gonna like we're gonna end up
like together, you mights he's gonna stay but we're actively
in talks of trying to, you know, come up with
(01:25:43):
an extension or something.
Speaker 5 (01:25:44):
That's what I think, I think you should address it.
Speaker 7 (01:25:46):
He's a big part of the team, and like what
did Darius Slay say, like, you know in his interview,
they were so close, right, So you should want to
show that, like, hey, there's a chance we're gonna come
back stronger and better next year. You know.
Speaker 2 (01:26:00):
You know, it's interesting because the compensation question, say that
ten times real fast is what's fascinating to me. And
just last week, Daniel Jeremiah Off Colin Coward, being the
first one to talk about it here on Fox Sports Radio,
said I'd be fascinated to see what the trade compensation
would look like if the Giants did trade for Stafford,
(01:26:23):
if they could hold on to the number three pick,
they could have some really fun options. And I don't
I like Matt Stafford a lot. I don't think you
can give up a top fifteen pick for him, Absolutely not.
I mean I just don't. Now if I don't even
think you want to give up a future first I
(01:26:43):
mean that's just me. If you're if you trade back
into the first round, like you get into like thirty
two or thirty one, then maybe, But you can't me
trading the first round pick for Matt Stafford.
Speaker 3 (01:26:57):
That's me.
Speaker 2 (01:26:59):
Let me rephrase that, a top fifteen, top ten pick
for him. But we'll see. I don't, I just don't.
I can't fathom. Now would the Rams ask for the
third pick? You bet they would. It's a Super Bowl
winning quarterback? Would you get the third pick? I don't
think so. So to me file that one away under
(01:27:20):
stories that may not be one hundred percent true, but
stories that are definitely worth following. All right to eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox. I want to fit two
more calls in tonight. I want to start with Poppy.
I want to get his pigs in here. He's in
San Diego. I'm counting on him for a few winners.
What's going on, Poppy? You're on Fox Sports Radio. Welcome
(01:27:41):
to the show.
Speaker 4 (01:27:42):
Hey, what's going on? Chris? I'm just right here, excited.
He knows you're in the show. Great show tonight. And look,
I want to talk about two things. Tamara is a
debut for MLS and then not allow of people are
talking about it. And my answer, Miami is going to
be good with Leon Messi and against New York that's
a good one. But the one that I'm are excited
openers of San Diego empty right here my hometown. They're
(01:28:04):
gonna make their debut on Los Angeles because Los Angeles Galaxy.
That's gonna be a great game. Their arrivals to hit
each other. So I'm hoping for San Diego getting their
debut over there win against Galaxy. But when I want
to talk about a plank, I got a pretty peacher
here to stay the best of lasses the NBA, the
Lakers against the Denver Nuggets. You know, a lot of
people are bashing Lucas, say he's overweight, this and that.
(01:28:26):
But I'll tell you what, Luca being overweight will school
us that are healthy and our way. And most of
these people are here, The announcers are over, you know,
over talking about him, like you know, Luca's like a
fossy snowman, you know.
Speaker 9 (01:28:40):
Like he's all slow this and that.
Speaker 4 (01:28:41):
But I'll tell you what, He's gonna have this revenge.
He did do bad against the Charlotte Hornets, and he's
gonna it's gonna be a prime time game on ABC,
ESPN Guys tomorrow and guess what. All the lives are
gonna be on Luca. He's gonna bounce back. And the
line is right now plus seven with Rogins. And I'm
really liking the Lakers against the Nuggets.
Speaker 9 (01:29:01):
What are you thinking?
Speaker 3 (01:29:02):
Okay, you like that, Poppy, I'm with you.
Speaker 2 (01:29:06):
But we got a text earlier in the show, tweet
earlier in the show from my man nature Boy, and
he did kind of scare me a little bit. He said,
I think the Lakers might be walking into a trap.
I think they're gonna get smoked against Denver. Now, I
hadn't really thought about it too terribly much, because you know,
I'm not a big game by game, but he said,
I here's the tax. This was an hour ago, he said,
(01:29:27):
I since the Lakers getting embarrassed by Denver tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:29:31):
Now, is Lucy comfortable?
Speaker 2 (01:29:34):
Has he reached this point to where he's a Laker
and he's embraced it, or is he still kind of
dealing with it? Your assessment of this game, your anticipation
is that, hey, we're good, he's had time, he's ready
to go. I'm not quite feeling that yet, Brie. I
don't know what it is. It's just that's a big number.
(01:29:55):
The Lakers have played well on. The Lakers have played
well on the the national TV window, that's Saturday night
primetime window. They had the disappointing loss to Charlotte, but
bounced back and beat Portland.
Speaker 3 (01:30:09):
I just.
Speaker 2 (01:30:11):
I don't know, man, It just it seems like the
Nuggets are finding something. They won nine of their last ten.
Yokis has been a problem for the Lakers. It seems
like for the moment he found another level and heard
I've heard great debates here on Fox Sports Radio throughout
the week about Hey, what's and I say, throughout the
week once the Lakers got going, and you know, Luganachis
(01:30:34):
had his big turnover game against Charlotte. What he turned
over six times in that game, and so far in
three games with the Lakers so far, he's turned it
over twelve times, and eleven of those were in the
last two games that he played. So, I don't know,
is this a matter you think three of him still
trying to get comfortable with the Lakers a bit?
Speaker 5 (01:30:53):
Oh, of course.
Speaker 7 (01:30:54):
I mean it's so it's so new, and it's the
middle of the season, so everybody's just.
Speaker 5 (01:30:58):
Extremely like hyper critical, like hey, like what's going on.
Speaker 7 (01:31:02):
They haven't had any time to gel together, and especially
coming from experience and having stars play together like big
stars and Kevin Burritt and Devin Booker, I feel like
I can kind of from first hand experience, you need
time to gel I mean it's not like the thunder
who like you know, you guys like have had that
time to really like grow together, right, you know, all
(01:31:23):
the young stars like Lebron Said and his ways, Lucas
and his ways.
Speaker 5 (01:31:27):
Austin Reeves kind of lashed out. Did you see that
he got he got ejected the other night?
Speaker 3 (01:31:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:31:32):
Yeah, I think, like I just think that whole dynamic
is super different. That's a lot of personalities, a lot
of ego, and I think it's also translating on the court.
Speaker 5 (01:31:40):
But maybe that's just me looking for some drama.
Speaker 3 (01:31:42):
I don't know, maybe maybe, And again this is this
is just an idea. Maybe you sit him a little
bit more.
Speaker 2 (01:31:50):
You know, he didn't play against the Blazers, and I
mean it's not like Portland's a very good team, but
they're over five hundred at home and the Lakers are
a five hundred team on the road and Dwayn Finney
Smith has been a great ad for the Lakers. He's
been an outstanding defensive presence that they've missed. You've got
(01:32:10):
you know, Vanderbilt, he didn't even play against he didn't
play against Portland, but he'd been playing a little bit.
Jackson Hayes seems to like really embrace his role. But
I just maybe the best thing is to give him
a little bit more time. I know, you don't get
a lot of practice at this time of the year,
so it's not one of those things you're like, well,
(01:32:31):
give him in a practice and not like NBA players
practice too terribly much. But I don't know if I
guess the roundabout way is getting to the actual point here, Poppy,
I hope you're right. I don't know if I can
get on board with that plus seven for the Lakers
tomorrow night. I'd stay away from it. But it is
curious because it's not like the Lakers are in a
(01:32:53):
position where they're fighting in the playing tournament right now.
They're like at the five to four, maybe even three seed,
and that's a really good place to be right now.
So it's gonna take some time. It doesn't seem like
Luca is real comfortable yet. I don't think it's because
he's fat. I just take it's a matter of getting
comfortable in a new situation and everyone understanding their roles.
(01:33:16):
And I'm I'm a firm believer that it's gonna work
in the long run.
Speaker 3 (01:33:20):
It's just gonna take some time.
Speaker 2 (01:33:22):
And right now we're down to what fifty four so
you got what twenty eight games.
Speaker 3 (01:33:29):
Left in the season, So.
Speaker 2 (01:33:30):
You don't have a ton of time before you got
to get ready for the playoffs. All right, matdis in Denver,
speaking of the Nuggets. Matt, you get the last word
on the phone tonight. Man, welcome to Fox Sports Radio.
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (01:33:41):
Not much?
Speaker 9 (01:33:42):
Man?
Speaker 3 (01:33:42):
How are you great? Thanks for calling?
Speaker 19 (01:33:45):
Yeah, yeah, So I do have a bit of a
bum tick with you guys.
Speaker 3 (01:33:49):
Came on talking about the Nuggets.
Speaker 19 (01:33:51):
You guys didn't mention Nicole jokicchen the whole face of
the league thing. You know, he's a three time MVP.
He should have had the last four MVP's, but you know,
and beat time prod of the lay.
Speaker 9 (01:34:00):
Into that joker.
Speaker 19 (01:34:02):
This year he's he's top five and four of the
top stats in the NBA. And I just feel, you know,
you said that it's a runaway with SGA. And don't
get me wrong, Sua.
Speaker 16 (01:34:11):
Is doing hawesome this year.
Speaker 19 (01:34:12):
But for joking, not Thinn to be mentioned from you
guys in that, I just think it's kind of disappointing.
Speaker 9 (01:34:17):
Maybe I'm being a bit of a homer, but.
Speaker 3 (01:34:18):
No, bro, listen, I'm being a homer with SGA. I'll
be honest with you.
Speaker 2 (01:34:23):
I feel like the Nuggets have been so good that
the fact that they're and they're the three seed right now, right,
and they're probably gonna end.
Speaker 3 (01:34:31):
Up being the two.
Speaker 2 (01:34:32):
No, they're two now, Yeah, so they're probably gonna end
up being the two, if not the I don't know
if you'll catch the thunder, but I just I don't
know why.
Speaker 3 (01:34:39):
I feel like it's.
Speaker 2 (01:34:40):
Become so commonplace that it's like out of sight, out
of mind, and everyone in Denver gets it right with Jogic,
and everyone in Oklahoma City gets it with SGA. I
wonder if that's just a matter of we got to
accept that unless it's Lebron, and unless it's the Lakers
or the Nigs, it's just not going to get that
national love that it deserves.
Speaker 3 (01:35:00):
And I'm guilty of that tonight, right, yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:35:03):
I agree with that.
Speaker 16 (01:35:03):
Yeah, I mean I don't think Jokers faces the league,
but I definitely think he should be considered. And I
mean they're both awesome players, but I just feel, I mean,
Jokers get the great you know.
Speaker 2 (01:35:15):
Yeah, I mean, listen, you're and I appreciate the phone call,
Matt and the patience because I'm all about debate.
Speaker 3 (01:35:21):
But there's no need to debate this.
Speaker 2 (01:35:23):
You're right whenever we're talking about the best players in
the league, Nicola Jokic.
Speaker 3 (01:35:29):
Listen.
Speaker 2 (01:35:30):
For some reason, I do not want to pronounce the
J in his name. I don't know why. It's I've
always done it. But Nikola Jokic is one of those
guys that just gaming and game out gets it done.
Speaker 3 (01:35:41):
And he plays a lot too. He is everything.
Speaker 2 (01:35:45):
He's everything that we want in a professional athlete. He
plays a lot, seems to love the fans, doesn't get
too caught up in the minutia of it. All right,
he'd he'd rather probably go, you know, bat on his
horses and be on his ranch then getting caught up
in debates over who is to face the league and
(01:36:06):
who is it. But you start going through this and
you realize, if we really took some time to dig
into more than just boy, what's going on with Lebron?
Or as we debated on last week's show, right are
we more intrigued when we talk about the NBA with
talking about everything but the game, that we lose sight
(01:36:29):
of what's really good right now in the league. And
I think your call is a great byproduct of that.
Where you see it. You watch the Nuggets, you know,
game in a game out, Stude's still getting it done.
Probably should have won four straight MVPs, right, should have.
But because you know the Nuggets didn't win the title
last year, and because you know they didn't play for
(01:36:50):
the title last year, probably got lost in the shuffle
a little bit, I'll tell you right now, everyone wanted
to fast track. And I'm guilty of this a lot.
The thunder to the dudere. They're gonna play in the finals.
You know, don't look now, but Denver's playing really well.
I mean, it's a thirty seven and nineteen team right now.
They've won nine straight games. They're gonna I know that
(01:37:13):
Poppy felt good about the chance for the Nuggets to
beat the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (01:37:15):
I do not.
Speaker 2 (01:37:17):
And as it stands, that could be the Western Conference
final matchup that could be a one to two thunder Nuggets.
Speaker 3 (01:37:25):
I want anything to do with the Nuggets in the playoffs?
Do you if you're in the West? Hell?
Speaker 2 (01:37:29):
No, So you're right, it's an omission, you know what.
I think there is the part of it where he's
not an American born player.
Speaker 3 (01:37:39):
I think that has a lot to do with it.
Speaker 2 (01:37:41):
Right, he doesn't play the game, he doesn't play the
media game.
Speaker 3 (01:37:45):
I don't think people like that. But there's I love it.
Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
I love it so good point o mission on my part,
And I'm sure there would be someone that would call
for Memphis and say, whoa, whoa, whoa, dude, have you
seen what Job's doing this year and how he come back?
This is a story of a guy that can be
the face of the league. There might be someone that's
listening on our affiliate in San Francisco that says, hey,
hold up, they're still the king. Steph Curry is still
(01:38:11):
doing the things that he's done consistently. Man, why are
you forgetting Steph Curry? There might be someone in Detroit
that says, y'all paying attention to what.
Speaker 3 (01:38:21):
Kate Cunningham's doing. Maybe what we've.
Speaker 2 (01:38:25):
Learned tonight on the shows, call me crazy, is there's
not one singular guy that can be or is the
face of the league right now outside of the attention getter,
which is Lebron James. The one thing that I do
appreciate about a majority of them is there isn't.
Speaker 3 (01:38:41):
A lot of politics involved.
Speaker 2 (01:38:43):
And I think that's one area where with Lebron and
with others, you know, you choose one side, you completely
eliminate the other. There's no gray area when you decide
to get political and take a stand. And I think
that's hurt a lot too. But I'm mentioning that quickly
before I move on, because I don't want to fight
about politics. I do want to get Breeze threes in here,
which I will not plural.
Speaker 3 (01:39:05):
I will not make it plural. Breeze three coming.
Speaker 2 (01:39:08):
Up next, We got your tweets to take a son,
plus the big highlights from the night. All coming up
as we head down the home stretch with a Plank
Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:39:18):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 2 (01:39:31):
All Right it's it's the Plank Show right here on
Fox Sports Radio. It's weird for me to say that
Chris Plank Show because every time someone refers to me
as Chris, I'm usually in trouble for something. Brie, whenever
you were a kid, how did you know you were
in trouble? Whenever your parents would yell at you, which
would they use your full name?
Speaker 7 (01:39:50):
My full name and my middle name, Brianna Denise Like
I was definitely getting like a tiny yeah here right
out terrify.
Speaker 3 (01:39:58):
Mark, was it the same for you? Mark Edward? Mark Edward?
It was over.
Speaker 2 (01:40:03):
It was over, So I have two of them. It
was whenever I was a kid, my first name is George.
I don't use it. I tried it in fourth grade
for like a week and I got bullied just endlessly
for it, so I retired it. But George Christopher was
my grandma. When I was in trouble, George Christopher, I'd
be in trouble now in my real world life with
(01:40:24):
my wife. It's I know I'm in trouble whenever I
hear tofer tofer in trouble for it. But honestly, everything
is changed in my house, guys, because everyone is not Bro.
So because of my sixteen year old daughter, I don't
even know when I'm in trouble or when they need me.
Speaker 3 (01:40:41):
I just hear BRO.
Speaker 2 (01:40:43):
Which it makes me very sad because if I ever
tried to call my dad Bro. Even now my dad's seventy,
I'm almost fifty, I still think I would get back
candy like Bro. But that's who I am now, so
full names right, full name, So I'm always uncomfortab and
it's like, hey, it's the Chris Blank Show. Im oh
what I do? What am I in trouble for? So
(01:41:04):
thanks for hanging out with us. We'll be back tomorrow night.
Bernie's on vacation or taking a night off, however you
want to phrase it, so fear not h Bernie acts
he'll be back next week on Saturday night. But we'll uh,
we'll toe the line here on Friday nights, and we'll
keep our traditional fan favorite Breeze three, which kicks off now,
(01:41:27):
not one, not two.
Speaker 3 (01:41:29):
But three. It's entertainment. It's good. It's Breeze three. Alrighty,
I told you I didn't want to know. I'm ready
for this surprose.
Speaker 7 (01:41:41):
You didn't want to know, Okay, so kind of go
full circle here, We're going to go how we started
off the show, wow with the Yankees releasing this statement
on their grooming policy.
Speaker 5 (01:41:53):
Right, Okay, So I was thinking, like, what are.
Speaker 7 (01:41:56):
Some movies or TV shows where like the guys have
like good facial hair. Oh okay, that's kind of like memorable, right,
So I'm gonna start off with TV show and I'm
gonna go Walter White with Breaking Bad.
Speaker 5 (01:42:09):
Just like that bald head and that like go tea
kind of vibe, I feel like a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:42:14):
Okay, Okay, now it's kind of funny. I am.
Speaker 2 (01:42:17):
I didn't watch Breaking Back, oh my god, But no,
I saw the series and overall finale was the first
episode I ever watched of it, so I know how
it ends. But I went back and I've watched quite
a bit of it and I really enjoy it. It
was it's really good. So yes, I would agree with
(01:42:37):
you on that one. That's a good one. Walter White.
Speaker 7 (01:42:39):
And it's like it's a very prominent on his face
because I think he's, you know, a little bit on
the lighter side, you know, a little fair skin, right
and bald, and so.
Speaker 5 (01:42:48):
Just that goatee just really.
Speaker 7 (01:42:50):
Just makes like a statement to me. Okay, so that
was my number one. My number two, I went Johnny
Japp like Pirates of the Caribbean. Oh I like that,
Yeah yeah, just like Little Longer has that little thing
and like the bead in the middle kind of thing.
So and then just Johnny Dab has a good yeah,
extracting and he has like a good just like jawline
and everything.
Speaker 5 (01:43:10):
It just all kind of fits in.
Speaker 6 (01:43:11):
Well.
Speaker 7 (01:43:12):
So that was my number two. And then I went
the dude in The Big Lebowski.
Speaker 3 (01:43:16):
Oh yes, absolutely yes.
Speaker 5 (01:43:19):
So that those were my three.
Speaker 7 (01:43:21):
It just loved how Jeff Bridges just had that in,
you know, like like the Big That was just very
memorable to me.
Speaker 5 (01:43:28):
I don't know, it's just.
Speaker 2 (01:43:30):
My favorite movie of all time, it really is. The
Big Lebowski is one of those that we could sit
down and I could probably go line for line.
Speaker 3 (01:43:39):
Oh my god, I love it. I love it. It
might it will have to do a breeze. Three of
the greatest movies of all time.
Speaker 2 (01:43:46):
Great and I'm sure you've done it before, but Big
Lebowski is number one, number one, and I love it.
In fact, Big Lebowski, I'm I'm not I'm the dude.
I'm what was his first name? Now, I say I
could go line for line. I can't remember his first name.
Speaker 3 (01:44:04):
Jeffrey. I'm not Jeffrey lu Lebowski. I'm the dude, the dude.
Speaker 6 (01:44:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:44:08):
And then just like that long hair with like the
beard or the little go chi the long go tea.
Speaker 5 (01:44:13):
So yeah, those those were my three.
Speaker 7 (01:44:15):
So I went the dude Walter White and Johnny Depp
Empires and I can't think of his name.
Speaker 5 (01:44:21):
I don't know why, Jack Jack Sparrow. Yeah, so those
were my three.
Speaker 3 (01:44:26):
Okay, okay, Mark, what are you going with tonight?
Speaker 6 (01:44:29):
So I'm gonna do my my first three about movies,
and I'm gonna pick the movie three hundred King Leonidas, Great,
great shaped beard, just you know, powerful dude, powerful movie.
Speaker 3 (01:44:44):
Great beard.
Speaker 6 (01:44:44):
I wish I could grow mind that big, but I can't.
But then again I can't anyway, So about that, and
then my next movie, Beard is kill Bill mister pie
May the teacher for.
Speaker 3 (01:44:57):
Oh yeah, eyebrow beard Beard right.
Speaker 6 (01:45:00):
Yeah, it was long white beard and just his whole
look and when he would talk with Beatrice, he would
you know, flick it and there would be the sound
effects so that was a great beard.
Speaker 3 (01:45:10):
It's a great beard.
Speaker 6 (01:45:10):
And then my third beard is another movie, Jeremiah Johnson.
You ever see that one, Rubert Redford?
Speaker 3 (01:45:16):
Yeah, yeah, right now, I'm looking it up.
Speaker 2 (01:45:19):
I'm looking it up. That's a legendary beard. There's a
there's a famous gift based on that beard.
Speaker 6 (01:45:26):
Yes, yes, with his smile and the whole thing. So
those are my three beers. Three hundred Leonardo, yeah, Leonidas,
and then the kill Bill Pimee, and then Jeremiah Johnson.
I have some honorable mentions.
Speaker 3 (01:45:40):
No, go ahead and let me get my three. Then
you add your way.
Speaker 2 (01:45:44):
Yeah, just because I I I didn't have a lot
of time to think about this.
Speaker 3 (01:45:49):
Two of them came to me right away off the
top of my head. Okay. Number one, Alan in the Hangover,
Zach Alan.
Speaker 5 (01:45:58):
That's a good one.
Speaker 6 (01:45:58):
That's a good one.
Speaker 2 (01:45:59):
And so many people did the Halloween costume right that
I think it added to it, so Alan in the Hangover.
And number two it's not a full beard. I think
it's more of a mustache. And that's Ron Burgundy from Anchorman. Yeah,
that's famous facial hair. And my third that I had
(01:46:19):
is also is kind of maybe a little bit of
a deep pool. But have you guys seen Big Trouble
in Little China.
Speaker 1 (01:46:28):
It's just old Kurt and.
Speaker 6 (01:46:29):
Russell Imber, I remember the movie, Yeah, and there's one
of the Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:46:34):
It's like egg Shin and he's got it. It's like
it was the Missing Links beard and it was just
something that scarred me as a child and I'm still
scared of it today. So that was in there as
well as Tombstone and Kurt Russell with the great mustache
whenever he was whiter. In fact, I might want to
go with white art because I'm not sure which character
(01:46:57):
actually had the facial hair if it was Eggshin his
David lo from Big Trouble Little China.
Speaker 3 (01:47:06):
But I know Kurk Kurt Russell had an awesome.
Speaker 6 (01:47:09):
Mustache stone, Oh, great beard, Yeah, I mean mustache, great mustache.
Speaker 3 (01:47:13):
Yeah great. Where were the honorable mentions? Alan? Who are
you mark?
Speaker 6 (01:47:18):
Honorable mentions from baseball?
Speaker 12 (01:47:20):
You got Wade bogs beard and.
Speaker 2 (01:47:24):
Timely timely because Wade announced this week that he had
beaten cancer for now, which is a great sign, good timing.
Speaker 6 (01:47:32):
And then you got your Brian Wilson beardy beard, and
then Dave Parker's beard. Oh, Dave Parker on my very
famous beard because of the Red Sox and now the
Yankees thing, Johnny Damon beard.
Speaker 3 (01:47:47):
That's right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (01:47:48):
First time we saw him clean shaven was with the Yankees,
right or no, he had just grown it out with
the Red Sox. He was clean shaven when he came
up with the Royals, that's right.
Speaker 6 (01:47:57):
And then another big, big beard. It is a Bruce
Souter Saint Louis pitcher, those.
Speaker 3 (01:48:05):
Saint Louis Cardinals nineteen eighty two closer. So I have
him a lot because of the Cubs.
Speaker 2 (01:48:10):
I had, yeah, Cubs, and then he moved on to
the Cardinals. Whenever I was a little kid, Brie Mark,
I had a record that was the nineteen eighty two
Saint Louis Cardinals. Like it was not the forty five's,
it was the big record, and I think the opening
of it was, ha, this is Bruce Souter and this
is our nineteen eighty two championship season. And it would
(01:48:30):
play celebration by cooling the gang was their big song.
There was a lot of good facial hair guys on
that team. There was Bruce Souiter, Willie McGee's mustache was amazing.
Speaker 3 (01:48:42):
Keith nan was Keith Nana's on the eighty two team.
I think he was.
Speaker 6 (01:48:45):
I think so, think so. I think Ozzie might have
had a beard too.
Speaker 2 (01:48:48):
Ozzi Ozzi had a I think Ozzie was the first
like kind of go tee, and then Ken Obrick Fell had.
Speaker 3 (01:48:55):
An awesome beard.
Speaker 2 (01:48:56):
Look at us, look at who would have thought that
you would be able to generate this much from a
Yankees story today, Bri, I'm kind of impressed.
Speaker 17 (01:49:03):
I know.
Speaker 7 (01:49:03):
And when you started the show talking about it, I
was like, oh, that was my breeze.
Speaker 5 (01:49:08):
Three even I.
Speaker 3 (01:49:09):
Will tell him great sports beards. I just looked up
real quick.
Speaker 7 (01:49:13):
I just thought Kevin Kennedy back in the day, I
found like the Skipper had that kind of mustache.
Speaker 2 (01:49:19):
Oh, Jason Worth is on here, forgot about him, old
Dodger that played the Phillies for a whiles. Yeah, Louisian
old school had this sweet Was that a goatee or
was that more of a go tea?
Speaker 3 (01:49:31):
More of a go tea?
Speaker 2 (01:49:32):
And then of course everyone's got to have James Harden
on it, which it's funny to think if you go
back and watch I don't know if anyone's going back
and watching old Arizona State videos, but you go back
and watch old Arizona State videos, it is wild. It
is wild to see what he looks like without a beard.
(01:49:54):
It's like a different person.
Speaker 7 (01:49:55):
Oh, it's a totally different I don't even think I
knew his face was shaped that way.
Speaker 3 (01:50:01):
Another edition of Breeze three and.
Speaker 7 (01:50:04):
Then Gardner Minshew just to throw that in there. Can't
let that go.
Speaker 3 (01:50:08):
He had the smooth go tea.
Speaker 2 (01:50:10):
I will say, though, I am so angry with Gardner
Minshew over the way that he played this year.
Speaker 3 (01:50:16):
It's kind of hard for me. So I'm sorry. I mean,
how could you beat that? I mean, it's like he
was trying to be bad, he was trying to be
bad for the Raiders.
Speaker 2 (01:50:25):
They showed to Patrick Sirtan NFL Network. I love watching
games from the season. NFL Network used to like do
a Red Zone channel replay from like weeks three through
ten or something. Last week they did a tribute to
Patrick Sirtan and they were showing the Raiders Broncos game,
like the Raiders were driving to go up two scores
on the Broncos and Minshew threw one right to Patrick
(01:50:48):
Sirtan who went ninety nine yards per a touchdown actually
went like one hundred and four yards for a touchdown
and the Raiders never scored again.
Speaker 3 (01:50:57):
It's just like, was he trying to lose the game? Minshew?
Speaker 2 (01:51:02):
Maybe it was so long ago now, I don't even
remember what Teamy was on the.
Speaker 7 (01:51:06):
Jags, right, that's right? And with like the little Jean shorts,
that's right.
Speaker 5 (01:51:11):
Did he live in like a van or something?
Speaker 3 (01:51:14):
He had the uncla rico thing.
Speaker 2 (01:51:16):
Knowing, Hey, Brie, can I add one thing here to Breezee,
just to kind of because I'm usually gonna try to
bring a three pack of nonsports stories to this, but
every single time I do, there's always a sports tie
to it. I can't talk about the Jason Richardson shack
story involving oh my god, no, a toothbrush, so we'll
and close that one. But I can't ask you about
(01:51:38):
this alleged story where a girl claims that she's divorcing
her husband because she caught him booing Taylor Swift at
the Super Bowl. Have you seen this story at all?
Speaker 13 (01:51:49):
No.
Speaker 7 (01:51:49):
I thought you were going to say the woman that
caught her husband with the girl that like he she
bought him super Bowl tickets and he took his coworker.
Speaker 5 (01:51:58):
Yes, that's what I thought you were gonna say.
Speaker 3 (01:52:00):
Oh is that a story too, I miss that.
Speaker 5 (01:52:02):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:52:02):
A woman caught her husband cheating on her. They showed
like they showed against the JumboTron, and the husband had
taken his coworker that he was obviously having like an
affair with. And so then she like kind of blackmailed
him and like signed onto his work computer and sent
inappropriate messages to his boss as kind of like a
(01:52:22):
blackmail thing, and he lost his job.
Speaker 2 (01:52:25):
Now that's cold, but understood. Don't have no fury like
a woman scoring no.
Speaker 5 (01:52:32):
And so he had said I'm going to take my
college best friend and he lied.
Speaker 6 (01:52:36):
Wow she so wait.
Speaker 7 (01:52:38):
So a woman caught her husband booing Taylor Swift and
she filed for divorce.
Speaker 3 (01:52:41):
Yeah, minute video on it.
Speaker 2 (01:52:45):
She went and filed paperwork in the courthouse with the
date of separation is this year's Super Bowl because she
caught him booing Taylor Swift. And she said, it's not
just because he bowed her, it's that it represents it's
everything in our relationship. Because she was a Taylor Swift
fan since she was twelve years old. Her husband likes her,
(01:53:08):
he'll put on her music when they're cooking. And yet
since he bowed her at the super Bowl when he
was caught with five of his buddies on the jumbo
tron booing her and he went on a boy strip
I guess in the super Bowl and they got kind
of caught up in the moment. So yeah, she's divorcing
(01:53:28):
him now because they bowed Taylor Swift at.
Speaker 3 (01:53:31):
The super Bowl. Wow, listen, I don't know what else
is going on in this woman's life.
Speaker 5 (01:53:36):
But I mean, that's like a publicity stunt.
Speaker 3 (01:53:40):
To me, it has to be. There's no way it's real.
There's no way it's real.
Speaker 2 (01:53:44):
And it's funny because whenever you're in the craziness of
the Super Bowl, are you in the craziness of a
sporting event and someone's gonna get mad at you for
booing somebody, especially, try to completely and totally turn your
life around, like over Taylor Swift.
Speaker 3 (01:54:06):
I mean, sister, what are we doing right now?
Speaker 5 (01:54:08):
I mean, come on, I just I just saw the video.
That's the video now, I it's got to be fake. Oh,
that's just that's just a creep.
Speaker 3 (01:54:17):
Let's just also like that ding on her chin. I
can't stop looking at it. It's like driving me crazy.
Speaker 7 (01:54:22):
So do a dermatologist in a nice way. It might
be dangerous, That's what I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:54:26):
What's the line from Uncle Buck? Have you guys seen
Uncle Buck? Here? That thing off?
Speaker 2 (01:54:31):
Yeah, there's the exactly Nickel. Go take this down and
get your rat and gnaw that thing off. All right,
we got to get out of here. When we come back.
We'll put a rap on the plank show another excellent
award winning edition of Breeze three right here on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:54:50):
But these uh.
Speaker 2 (01:54:51):
Friday night so far I've been flying by hope they
are for you as well. Thanks for all the great
phone calls. Now again, we'll be back tomorrow night. We're
in for Ernie where he gets a night off, and
then we'll be consistent with you with Friday night shows
here on Fox Sports Radio. We didn't do a good job.
We you you Mark, you Breed didn't do a good job.
Speaker 9 (01:55:13):
Not me.
Speaker 2 (01:55:14):
I didn't do a good job tonight of recapping some
of the fun we had in the NBA, and I'm
reminded by of it watching the replay of the Rockets
te Wolves game.
Speaker 3 (01:55:25):
Right now, you had what was.
Speaker 2 (01:55:27):
A pretty impressive performance by the Houston Rockets overall. Not
to ruin it for any of you that are up
late watching the replay, but here goes jailing.
Speaker 3 (01:55:36):
Down the lane right hand lamp.
Speaker 2 (01:55:38):
Got it one seventeen one, ten thirty three for Green.
The Rockets held off a pretty furious run by the
Timberwolves to win it. Won twenty one one fifteen. Other
highlights quickly from last night in the NBA. Buddy Healed
was on one.
Speaker 6 (01:55:56):
Buddy Heel quick, three up and gug not to down
that twenty four lead for the Dubs their first possession
of the fourth corner.
Speaker 2 (01:56:03):
Yeah, I won thirty two to oneh eight. I mean,
the Warriors have looked great since bringing Jimmy Butler over,
and Buddy Hill has been awesome off the bench for me.
He had twenty two last night and was eight of
eleven from the floor, five of eight from beyond the
three point line.
Speaker 3 (01:56:21):
And well, I mean one.
Speaker 2 (01:56:22):
Other highlight from last night, how about the Cavaliers doing
to the Knicks? What all the good teams in the
NBA have done to the Knicks in big games?
Speaker 3 (01:56:31):
That's our final. Cavs win. Cavaliers win in a route.
Speaker 2 (01:56:38):
They demolished the New York Knicks one to one to five.
Cavaliers have won six in a row and now ten
of their last eleven. They're they're really fun to watch too,
they really are. Meanwhile, the New York Knicks are just
are just bad against the top teams in the NBA.
(01:56:59):
And it's not just that they're losing against the Calves,
the Celtics and the Thunder The Nicks and those matchups
this year are zero to six and they're getting beat
by an average of twenty one points per game. So
we'll be on that through a majority of the morning
here on Fox Sports Radio. Hockey starts back up tonight.
(01:57:22):
You got a big day of college basketball, though tomorrow
we'll go a little bit more in depth on the
Bill Self rumors. Very Trammel and the Tulsa World reported
that Bill Self was contemplating and nearly took an offer
to take over in Oklahoma State. This year is alma mater.
Bill Self came out and tried to shoot that down.
And oh, by the way, Oklahoma State and Kansas played
today in college basketball. We'll talk about that tomorrow night.
(01:57:45):
Some of your tweets, Sinnai to the show. They've been great,
Justin writes, Indiana Jones's stubble should be on the beard list. Okay,
that's a good one. Maddie adds magnum p. I was
my submission. By the way, this segment.
Speaker 3 (01:57:59):
Needs to be earlier.
Speaker 2 (01:58:00):
We'll take it into consideration three runs of the show,
so it's whatever she decides she wants to do.
Speaker 3 (01:58:06):
But yeah, maybe earlier. See. I like it though, because
it kind of gets us, you know, cooking.
Speaker 2 (01:58:10):
Near the end of the program, La Rams, Steve is
checked in more Rams talk, less Lakers talk. Who cares
Who's gonna win the Laker versus Denver game tomorrow? Well,
Poppy cares because that's his pick. Come on, Steve, have
some grace for your fellow late nighters. Poppy's got that
as his pick. He's got to get that, dumb Crystal.
(01:58:33):
When lebron retires, then the face of the NBA will
be Bronny. That's the way it's going, you know what
I will say, Crystal. I do find it interesting how
that was such a big story early and we all
kind of understood if Ronnie's gonna be anything. It's gonna
take some time, but you're right, it's it's probably trending
(01:58:54):
that way at Donkey Sausage Rights. The NBA works smarter,
not harder. Truck or Joe Jalen Milroe screams Malik Willis Perrito.
I think Tom Brady was interested in Rabel, Belichick, Johnson
and Carroll.
Speaker 3 (01:59:11):
End of story.
Speaker 2 (01:59:12):
And that was to the idea that Mark Davis hired
Pete Carroll and that Tom Brady didn't. And Nature Boy
Todd Furman said he didn't think Stafford could stomach a
season with the Raiders. I mean, honestly, can any of
us see them?
Speaker 3 (01:59:26):
All night? On Fox Sports Radio
