(00:28):
jam pack show Tonight, we're gonna cover it all. All
four major sports have been prominently in the news. We'll
be talking about all of them. And by the way,
I want to note an hour from now, fifty nine
minutes from now, it's midnight my time in Las Vegas,
literally and figuratively, because it will be the midnight hour.
(00:51):
We'll be taking your calls eight seven, seven nine nine
six six three sixty nine eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox. We'll have some great topics from all four sports.
Why are people picking on the Dodgers. I'll have a
Laker thought, a shootdoor Sanders thought, an NFL rule change thought,
and how about the NHL and they're highly successful for
(01:13):
Nations tournament should other sports be looking at that. Also,
there's the rant also if you've got something you want
to run on, So get ready, get those fingers ready
to dial them up at midnight Pacific or wherever it
is your time. The caller has been fantastic over the
last year three months, and we look for that to
continue tonight. And with everything, we got to get to
(01:33):
the one thing that I want to start with tonight
very much so for good reason. It's this little thing
called the NFL Combine, which my good friend Brian Blessing
used to affectionately refer to as the underwear Olympics. It's
an interesting phenomenon. It's enough of a phenomenon toward made
headlines two weeks ago that Shiloh Sanders was not even
(01:57):
invited to the NFL Combine that actually made somebody's headline.
He of course, is the son of Dion Sanders, their
brother Shudor Sanders, who was in fact invited but decided
he don't need it now I'm too cool for school.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
But he's not the only one.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Shudor Sanders, Ashton gent T, cam Ward Colston, Lovelin, Abdua Carter.
Now some dude injury, A lot of very high profile
players who were invited decide not to participate. Now that
bugs some people, all right, Now, Howard Stern once had
(02:39):
a quote, Uh, you know, you know, you know that.
Howard Stern, who's America's curmudgeon now said once said I
want to be invited to every event and turn every
one of them down. That's kind of how the NFL
combine is. You want for a lot of guys, they
want to be invited, but they no, not all of
them want to want to participate. So I'm gonna try
(03:00):
to give an objective viewpoint for those of you that
bothers and I get it right. Players sometimes choose not
to fully participate in combined workouts. I cover ten drafts
for the Detroit Lions, and I think the concern is
they believe a before a possible poor performance and the
measurable drills like say the fifty or the forty R
(03:22):
dash that could negatively impact their draft stock, especially if
they've already got strong game tape and you know.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
The old axiom.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Now, they just prefer to showcase their abilities in the
more controlled setting like their pro day at their college,
where they can tailor the drills to their strengths and
minimize the risk of a bad showing in front of
NFL teams. So these are the key reasons fear of
a bad performance. A single poor showing in a drill
at the combine could theoretically be magnified by scouts, potentially
(03:56):
lowering their draft position even if they're overall play in
the field is excellent. Again, focus on the pro day.
Many players believe their pro day allows them to demonstrate
their skills in a more personalized environment. Those drills they
design for themselves, specifically for their position and their strengths. Now,
some are actually concerned about injury. The combine drills actually
(04:19):
can be physically demanding and in theory puts some players
at risk of injury, especially if they are not fully prepared.
Hold that thought, because later on the show, Oh do
I have a story for you about the legend Mike Mamula,
the man who changed the NFL combine forever. That was
(04:40):
back in nineteen ninety five, and because of what he
did at the combine, he had got drafted very high
and he never should have been. He became a poster
child for how really important is the combine. By the way,
Juxta pulls out with a guy like Fred Smoot. You
may remember Fred Smoot. He was the forty fifth player
(05:00):
overall drafted many years ago and went on to have
a nine year career, a good career as a defensive
back in the NFL with Minnesota and Washington, even though
in the two twenty five bench press he did one
rep one rep. Okay uh. I think the pressure and scrutiny,
(05:21):
the high pressure environment of the combine stresses out some
young guys. That part bothers me, because you're going to
be under pressure that impacts their ability to potentially perform
at their best. Other top prospects that have had strong
college careers might feel they've already proved themselves and they
don't need to risk damaging your image with a potential
subpar combine performance. Let's go back a year. Caleb boy
(05:46):
And said he was not going to participate in the combine.
Can That also came under some scrutiny. It didn't prevent
him from being drafted number one overall. So who serves?
Who does the combine serve best?
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Then?
Speaker 2 (06:05):
I think it's probably most useful for players either one
perhaps have been under the radarof got enough attention because
they're not on TV every week, they're not at major
football schools, or were perhaps late bloomers. Two players who
want to show off their lead attributes because they have
one one superpower, one leade tool, like ridiculous speed, and
(06:31):
that's going to turn some heads of the combine.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
Or this happens.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Players who've been previously dongraded or dinged by scouts or
the mel Kuipers of the world for varying reasons, and
they want to show those concerns, whether it's health, technique,
you know, misinformation you now. For players like that, the
combine offers a chance actually to move up in the draft,
or maybe you weren't even on a team's draft board
(06:57):
and you get on a team's draft board. Look, this
isn't an exact science and an exact art. I'm going
to get to Shador Sanders later. I don't know how
he's gonna do in the NFL. I think it's gonna
be a great story to watch. Look, if this kid's
going to be drafted in the top ten, which it
looks like he's going to be, I can tell you
(07:19):
I covered a lot of drafts, and if you're going
to draft a quarterback in the first round, much less
the top ten. You better have one really elite trait,
one really elite tool. He does not have that, not
from what I've seen. He does not have that superpower.
(07:40):
What he has is a lot of sizzle. And I'm
not sure how much stake he has some but we're
gonna find out. But if from what I have seen
looking at him objectively, forget his last name is Sanders,
it could have been Shador, SLEABOTNK, I'd be saying the
same thing you put him on in an NFL game.
He just looks at another dude right now. Proved me wrong,
(08:01):
Feel free to prove me wrong. I've been wrong. I
was wrong about Josh Allen. I promise you. I was
wrong about Josh Allen seven years ago, coming out of Wyoming,
thought he was too raw.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Again, back to the.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Combine, Caleb Williams, He'd already played a ton of football,
He'd been at two major universities. What would a strong
Combine performance do for him? He was already projected as
a number one overall pick. Didn't go to the Combine.
And even if he'd gone to the Combine and played
lights out, he couldn't have been drafted higher than one.
But god forbid, if he has an off day, maybe
(08:37):
missing some deep throws, maybe he's mechanics or sloppy. Here
come the Milk Kuiper types talking about that for the
next several weeks. Remember Vince Young, his release was too low.
You could, in theory, you could drop a pick or two. Again,
back to the injury draft stock. The combine for a
guy who heads into it that's already high profile, is
(08:57):
technically all risk and no reward.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
For a player like Caleb Williams.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Who proved you know that he was going to go
number one anyway, whether he wanted to do a combine
or not, he knows where they know. If a guy
knows where he stands, it makes sense. I guess. I
don't know, though. I love the guy who wants to
constantly compete, But it's it's theoretical and it's idealistic. But
(09:21):
the combine is a thing. I mean, look, look at
the wall to wall coverage this past week. This is
how Google gaga. We are enamored with the NFL who
manages to stay and are conscious. Twenty four to seven,
the clock flies were countdown to would be the draft
and the botas and you know pretty soon it's going
to be July again before you know it.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
But still something to think about.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Then you trust me, you're going to love this story
about Mike Mummoula thirty years ago, one of the first
players to ever specifically train for the combine. He took
he had trainers, he he trained around the clock for
the combine, specifically so he would I'll get to his
(10:06):
numbers later. His vertical jump, his two twenty five bench press,
his wonderlook score, everything he did was off the charts
for a quote defensive lineman. And he turned heads and
he changed. He ruined the company for guys who do well,
because just because you do well in the combine doesn't
(10:29):
mean that's going to translate to the National Football League.
Or you could be Fred Smoot, here's a tease. He
benched twenty five twenty six times. He had the most
nondescript Just ask Philly fans call in at midnight if
you remember Mike Mamula, somebody does I guarantee you again?
(10:50):
Fred Smoot Washington and Minnesota. He benched to twenty five once.
Didn't stop him from having a nine year NFL career.

are efforting Mark Medina and while we do a couple things,
I want to dive into tonight about the NBA and
we will get to the red hot Lakers. I mean,
on his birthday, Lucas scores thirty one. They beat the
(12:31):
Clippers one oh six, one oh two, five straight wins.
The numbers have been sensational, sixteen and four in their
last twenty the last fifteen games are number one defensively.
But that's not the only news in the NBA. There's
lots of other news. I mean, Steph Curry scores fifty
six the other night with twelve three pointers. Seems to
(12:53):
be completely rejuvenated with Jimmy Butler. Okay, we now have
Mark Medina, so let's go right into it.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
It's that time, Mark Medina, Medina Magic.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
You used to hear him on midnight, Well.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
That's during football season.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
During non football season, you hear im in this time slot. Mark,
welcome in.
Speaker 6 (13:15):
How are you I'm doing well? Different time slot, the
same great at me a segment. What you're looking forward
to it?
Speaker 2 (13:21):
That's exactly what it's going to be, buddy in. There's
so much to talk to so little time.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Let's dive into it. I really kind of have to
start with.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
The Lakers sixteen and four in their last twenty number
one defensively in their last fifteen games. Obviously, they're you know,
they're the hottest thing since chocolate chimp cookies. My thing
is this mark, is this sustainable? And is this transferable
to the playoffs? I think those are fair questions.
Speaker 6 (13:48):
It is a fair question. We'll see, but I think
that I've seen enough that I'm putting them in championship
contending status. Now. I'm not putting them as the favorites
to win the championship. That honor still go to the
Boston Celtics, the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Oklahoma City Thunder,
but they have a puncher chance to get there. And
I think that's saying a lot because before the Luca
(14:10):
Doctor trade, I thought the Lakers ceiling was second round
at best, but most likely first round. And so this
is a game changer obviously with Luca. But I've been
pleasantly surprised that a their defense has been playing at
a high level even without Anthony Davis and b you know,
everyone has responded fairly well to Luca I mean the
(14:31):
first two games there was some rust on both sides
with Luca's conditioning everyone else staying used to his passes.
But these last few games it's been like clockwork, where
not only as Luca has played the high level, but
so is everyone else around.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Him million percent.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
And what I'm finding interesting is no matter who you
put on the floor, you get the same kind of
incredible energy. I watched the game against the Clippers. Austin
Reeves leads in the first quarter with cash sword and
it's rue Hatcha. Mura sat Lebron and Luca on a
back to back and the Clippers could not prevail. When
the Lakers needed to come up with ever play they
(15:10):
needed to come up with, whether it's a rebound, whether
it's a stop, whether it's a three point play, it's
it's incredible, it's uncanny, what's happening.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
And Lebron seems to have found the youth.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
The kind of defense he's playing, he's the kind of
defense he was playing when he was with the Miami Heat.
Speaker 6 (15:27):
Yeah, I mean, what's happened here with Lebron is twofall,
with Luca being a great score, great passer, and because
of his gravity, creating more space on the court. Lebron's
workload has lightened a bunch because he one, he's got
easy baskets. In two, he's not handling the ball as much.
And you know, I know that things have been pointed out.
(15:48):
You know when Lebron's got criticism, well he's always one
to handle the ball in the pass. Well, that's because
he didn't trust players like Russell Westbrook, Indiangral Russell. Eventually
he trusts Luka Doctrich. The second thing he talked about, yeah,
I mean J. J. Reddick has said that he should
be on All defensive first team, and that is a
clearly different way that Lebron played defense before, where he
(16:11):
would take plays off. Sometimes he would be good at
telling teammates where to go, but part of that would
be because he didn't want to have to do it.
He would be good with pointing things out and try
to delegate. But here he has more energy to transfer
on the defensive side of the ball. And for all
the lack of big men that they have now without
(16:32):
Anthony Davis, what they're doing to compensate for that is
just good old fashioned effort and that can go a
long way. Now, I don't know if that's sustainable, because
at some point you're going to meet a Nikolay Jokich
in a playoff matchup in a seven game series. But
for now, so far, so good. But I will say this,
you did bring up some potential points of concern health, really, Hatchamora.
(16:55):
He has a left knee injury, timeline unknown. He's definitely
out though for tomorrow's game against the Clippers. You mentioned
Austin Reeves. He has a right cat strain. He's technically
listed as doubtful for tomorrow's game against the Clippers, but
right calf strains. Those are things you don't want to
mess around with. So, you know, so far, so good
(17:16):
with the Lakers, but obviously things can be so fluid
because it is a fight to the finish this last
month of the season.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Last thing abrought Lebron.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
He's not playing to conserve any energy, and the Lakers
will be playing their fifty ninth game Sunday night. Can
he continue that kind of breakneck pace?
Speaker 6 (17:35):
You know, it's a good question because he missed All
Star you know game, and you know part of it was, well,
he's got bigger fish to fry, right, But when I
asked JJ Riddick about how his ankle and his footer
are hanging in he said it's better, but he talked
about that these are injuries that they're going to have
to manage the rest of the season. So he's technically
(17:56):
listed as questionable for tomorrow's game against the Clippers. Same
thing with Luka Doncic with his left half, and I
suspect they're going to play. But to the broader question
you're asking, can he sustain this as long as he's
reasonably healthy? I think he can be. But obviously, given
where he's at, forty years old, twenty second season, he's
getting treatment basically every time he's not on the floor.
(18:19):
This is always going to be fluid every single game.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
I'm really looking forward to the playoffs and before I
move off the Lakers, listen, let's give JJ Reddicks some flowers.
I think he's done a phenomenal job with this team.
I gotta believe mister Bickerstaff's going to win Coach of
the Year, right, How do you not give it to
him in Detroit? Am I wrong?
Speaker 7 (18:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (18:39):
Yeah? Well, you know, Kenny Atkinson might get Coach of
the Year with Cleveland because they've had this traumatic turnaround.
You know it is ironic though, because he replaced JB.
Bicker Staff in Cleveland. I would think Kenny Atkinson gets it,
you know that fifteen to oh start, they've bolted themselves
from not just playoff team, but a team that could sharers.
(19:00):
They threatened Boston the East. But yeah, JB. Bicker Stepp,
I'm sure he'll get some votes because Detroit's turned things around.
You know, maybe JJ Reddick gets a handful of votes.
But I do think that there's a clear separation between
Kenny Atkins and everyone else. If I think again, the broader
point they're making with JJ Redick, first year head coach,
you know, he was inheriting a roster that is good
(19:22):
with Lebron James and Anthony Davis, but also a lot
of question marks with health. How good the rest of
the roster is. And look, they're not top in the West,
but they're also not bottom. They've been pretty competitive. The
thing that I will buy I'll give J. J. Reddick
credit for is one the team plays hard, and usually
when a team plays hard, that's a reflection that the players,
(19:43):
you know, are motivated and respect the head coach number
two for whatever inexperience he has. He's made up for
for the fact that he's played the game before. He's
really good with having relationships with both stars and role players,
and he does a lot of g prep. He knows
his stuff, he makes adjustments, and you know, Frankly, that's
(20:04):
what you need to succeed, doesn't that be a coach.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
I've been impressed with what he's done, and I agree
with you and Kenny Atkinson. Honest he saw last night
Cleveland opened up the game with a twenty at a
twenty five to three deficit in Boston, came back and
won the game. Yeah, I mean, they maintained their composure,
chipped away the next thing, you know, they won the game.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 6 (20:25):
The thing. I hope this doesn't get twisted, but I'm
just trying to make an observation here. The thing that
jumped out to me when I was around the Cavs
earlier this season was just how tight knit of a
group they are like. And that extends with how well
they are balanced on offense, how great they play on defense,
(20:46):
and they all get along. When I was in the
locker room New Year's Eve against the Lakers, they weren't
in any rush to get out to enjoy their new years,
these plans. They were all talking about the game and
giving each other, you know, a hard time, you know,
in a playful manner, And that kind of atmosphere reminded
me of when I was covering the Golden State Warriors
(21:09):
on the beat during their championship years, you know, their
repeat year against Cleveland. You know, that was a team
at that point had starts like Kevin Durant, Steph Curry,
Draymond Gleet Green, Klay Thomson, Andre Woodalla. I'm not saying
that they're the same caliber as the Warriors' success was,
because at the end of the day, Cleveland has to
prove that this regular season success can translate into the postseason.
(21:31):
But as far as what they're showing, as far as
that team unity and strength and numbers identity, I very
much see the parallels.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
All Right, who's the Lakers' biggest nemesis to come out
of the West. If you had a name one team,
is it Denver? Is it okay See? Is it perhaps
Golden State, even though right now they're a playing team.
Is it Dallas? What might Dallas look like if they
get ad lively and Gafford back on the floor.
Speaker 6 (22:02):
Yeah, a lot of good questions. I think that the Warriors,
they've catapuled themselves out of playing status to at least
win a first round matchup. You know, if they get
to the West Finals against the Lakers, I want to
be surprised. But I think even though the Lakers and
Warriors are dramatically different teams, with the trade deadline moves
they made Lakers Gang Luca, Warriors game Jimmy Butler, I
(22:25):
still think that it's the Oklahoma City Thunder that all
these teams in the West have to worry about. Because
I'm putting my vote for Shay Gojess Alexander to win MVP.
You know, I think Nikole Jokic is very deserving. He's
tightened the race up, but just the way that Shay
has taken his game to another level where you know,
the Thunder will be the first to tell you he's
(22:46):
not a complete player yet, but he's pretty darn close.
I mean, he is an unstoppable score. He's even though
he's a score for first point guard. He has helped
his teammates be better and he sets themselves up to
have a balanced offense and defensively, they just have so
many wing defenders that they can throw it guys. In
the playoffs. You never stop any top player, but you
(23:09):
can slow them down, wear it out. And they have
a lot of wing defenders that can do that. Whether
it's Lou Dor, Alex Caruso, Jaylen Williams, they all have
a great blend of competitive spirit, physicality, basketball IQ that
I think that they're going to be, you know, the
ones that get to the NBA Finals. But luck Bernie,
(23:30):
a lot of good teams in the West, the Lakers
and the Warriors are now part of the conversation. It's
going to be a fun playoff race for sure.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
And it seems like they're better Oklahoma City when Ched
Holgrim is healthy. Can they make that quantum leap though?
To get to the finals with their youth and inexperience.
I covered some Pistons teams years ago. It took that
stepping still in process, which I think is cliche because
this team is uber talented and they play defense. But yeah,
(23:59):
it's hot, it's to breed, and you've got to beat
a team like the Lakers four times in two weeks.
Do they start to look over their shoulder A little bit.
Speaker 6 (24:06):
Yeah, No, I think that the quote unquote inexperience they
have that's overrated because they've they've had continuity, and they
went through the growing pains last season as far as
not being able to advance past the Minnesota So you know,
they went through the trenches last season. I think now
it's kind of the stepping stone to show that they're
(24:28):
the real deal.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
All right, let's move along. Jeweli Embiid shut down for
the rest of the season. I've got to believe, and
as talented as Jewel Embiid is, his career has just
got to be in a serious state of flux right now.
Speaker 6 (24:42):
Yeah, it's very sad. Now quick correction here, Thunder is
the one that lost the Dallas But that was Luca
and he was amazing. But to the broader point that
they were making about Joe Al Embiid, it's a no
brainer that the Sixers shut him down. The Sixers aren't
going anywhere. They're clearly had a disappointing season for reasons
beyond Joel Embiid's injury. I mean, Paul George did not
(25:06):
live up to his contract the first year. Whether he's
been healthy or not. But as far as Joelle's concerned.
It's very troubling because his injury history is his injury history,
and I'm not one of the people that questions his
competitiveness or just how he plays the game. I think
(25:26):
that when he's been healthy, he's put up MVP performances
like that. That's pretty cut and dry, So I don't
doubt that part, as well as what he's doing to
try to stay healthy. But his body is his body,
and even though he's been trying to do all the
right things, it's still not enough. Now, maybe with this
(25:48):
season shine him down early. He had a full off
season to do a full recovery as opposed to last
summer when he did play in the Olympics. Even though
you know, he didn't make it French a little bit
in certain times. He was also a liability at other times,
and no doubt it also exposed the fact that he
wasn't fully one hundred percent. But I do have concerns
(26:11):
on whether he can stay healthy long term, even with
a full off season and an earlier you know, spring
to recover from all this.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
Yeah, it really honestly doesn't look good.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Speaking of health, I'd like to get your thoughts on
Victor wimbin Yama. He's not the first NBA player to
suffer from deep vein thrombosis. You remember back in twenty sixteen,
Brandon Ingram had the same situation, but the following season
made the All Star Team. But Andrew Anderson verrejo he
(26:44):
had a blood cop he was put on blood thinners.
He be returned. Ostra Thompson was a player with the Pistons.
Christian Coloco is he back this season? What's the situation
he had the same situation.
Speaker 6 (27:00):
Yeah, Uh, that's been kind of fluid. You know, the
Lakers haven't really shared much other than you know, he
has been doing a lot of things with the South
Bay team, but he's been kind of in and out.
You know, from a health standpoint, he's been okay. I
just don't know if he's going to get actual minutes
with the Lakers moving forward. But the broader plot that
(27:23):
you're making about Victor Weebanyama, Uh, you know, I talked
with some doctors, you know that don't work with the Spurs.
They affirm a lot of optimism that the Spurs had
that he will be back one hundred percent next season. Uh,
they were I think relatively encouraged that it didn't spread
anywhere else. And the fact that you know they're showing
(27:45):
him down now, that gives him a lot of time
to do a few things, rely on some blood thinners
to get everything cleaned up, and if he needs it
to have surgery. Now the Spurs haven't said whether he's
going to have surgery or not. They haven't determined that,
but just from a pure calendar standpoint, he has a
(28:06):
lot of time to go through all that. So that's
the reason why you know, even outside medical people I've
talked to think that that victor one. But now I's
going to be just fine. But you know, to your
broader point about what clots, this is an injury you
can't take lightly because it's a very delicate thing, and
once it spreads to other part to your body, you know,
that's not only a game changer from your availability you know,
(28:29):
playing professional sports, but it's also you know, a life
or death issue as well.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
Well, that's what happened unfortunately Chris Bosh about ten years ago. Yeah,
he was done, you're tired.
Speaker 6 (28:39):
Here's gonna be a career ler.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
At thirty two.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
Because the clots had travel to his lungs, and yeah,
I mean, look, I'm not a doctor. I'm going to
have a doctor buddy of mine on in a few weeks.
He thinks you'll be okay. But the taller you are,
the bigger you are, the more you have to fly
on airplanes. These are things that are the build illitating, right.
Speaker 8 (29:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (29:01):
And the other thing that one doctor told me is
you're talking about the height. It's not so much the height,
but because of the position he's playing as a big
you're gaining a lot of you know, hits to the
shoulder and all that, and that contributes to the possible
increase of getting blood clots to begin with. So yeah,
(29:21):
that leaves them vulnerable. But again, the fact that the
Spurs caught this early and they decided not to mess
around with it and chase some possibility that, oh, if
he can just cut this out, we can make the
playoffs this season. The Spurs are taking the long game.
They don't want to mess around with it, you know.
And it's not just about Victor one. Dama's going to
be a generational star. He can make the playoffs for
(29:43):
many more years to come. It's also about looking out
for the overall well being of their star player as well.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
And think how Dearon Fox feels.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
I mean, that would have been fun to see those
two competing, right, I mean it kind of diminishes that
aid somewhat in terms.
Speaker 6 (30:01):
Of well, yes, no, I mean short term, Yes, the
Spurs aren't going to the playoffs, but Victor Wembiniyama. This
is the second year in the NBA the Tearn Fox trade. Yeah,
it was to try to get the team better, but
it's all about the long term with them.
Speaker 7 (30:17):
You know.
Speaker 6 (30:17):
It's not like, obviously a direct contrast to the Lakers
where Lebron James he only has so many years left
how to squeeze that championship window?
Speaker 9 (30:26):
Right now?
Speaker 6 (30:26):
The Spurs are in that mindset of, you know, subtly
shifting from just having a bunch of young guys, get
some good veterans around Wemby. But they can still take
the long play with us because they're expecting Victor to
you know, be playing fifteen, possibly even twenty years with them.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Fair enough, last thing, Nico got a bit of an
air full in La the Dallas Mavericks. Still I don't
see this, this story's not written yet. I really want
to see what that team looks like with ad on
the floor and Lively and Gafford until because they played
the Lakers tough man, that.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Was were you?
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Were you at that game? I was, yeah, yeah, so
I heard it.
Speaker 6 (31:09):
I wasn't all the chance that the Laker fans are
telling Nico to thank you Nico. And I actually witnessed
some Laker fans by the entrance tunnel actually greeting Nico
and saying, hey, great trade, and you know, asking him
to pose for pictures. He did not oblige, but he's
certainly heard the compliments for the I think he would
(31:30):
say the wrong reasons.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
I am not ruling out that he may have the
last laugh. I'm not predicting that. I'm not predicting that,
but I'm not ruling it out because they're the type
of matchup nightmare with those big Dallas has. And you
forget how good Kylie Irving is until you see him
play a game like you played against the Lakers, how
truly dangerous he is offensively, and you give him some bigs.
(31:55):
Yeah you didn't, didn't as you observed the Mavericks, didn't it,
you know, peak your curiosity somewhat as to what might
this team look like if you had the three healthy
bigs on the floor.
Speaker 6 (32:10):
Yeah, it certainly did, and I'll give them credit. They've
been competitive, Like Jason Kids done a great job coaching.
Kyrie Irving's done a great job leading. Klay Thompson's looking
like Clay again. Yeah, you know, guys like Najie Marshall's
playing well. But I'm going to push back on the
trade here. I mean, one, you don't trade a generational
star like Luca, whether you have issues with his condition
(32:33):
or not. He's twenty six years old, like he can
he can mature into that. Secondly, if you are going
to trade Luka Dancis, he could have gotten a much
better haul. Anythink Davis is a great talent. You gain
a first round pick, that's great. SAMN with Max Christy,
I would argue when you're training someone like Luca, you
got to get more in return. But the third thing
I think that he You know, for them to have
(32:56):
the last laugh, a lot of things have to go
right and for them to gain amble on Oh, Anthony
Davis staying healthy. I will give eighty credit that he's
been healthyer than in previous seasons. But you know, if
I have how do I rank my level of concerns
about Anthony Davis staying healthy as he gets into his
thirties versus Luka Doncic's conditioning and diet habits in his
(33:20):
mid twenties, I'm going to bet on Luca. So yeah,
short term if, and it's a huge if, but if
the Mavericks get all their guys healthy, they could have
some better playoffs success this season. But when I'm looking
at the long term for the next five years, ten years,
the Lakers are demolishing the Mavericks in this trade because
(33:42):
they have Luka Doncic for most of his career and
his prime.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
I can't take umverage with any of that.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
The only caveat is the Lakers are going to have
to win at least one championship. Oh it should and
should God forbid, Dallas win one or knock the Lakers
out of the playoffs. This is similarly reminiscent. I remember,
like yesterday when the Lakers or the Pistons traded Andrey Dantley.
It's for Mark Gwire and people said Aguier was a
locker room killer. Wasn't davely Chuck Daily straighten the Mountain.
(34:13):
The Pistons went back to back and Dan. So maybe
that's a weak comparison, but the story has to play out, because, yes,
the Lakers got a guy, a box office guy for
the next five to ten years. Maybe Lebron's only there
for two of those or whatever. But if they don't
win a championship and Dallas does, the conversation has to
get revisited.
Speaker 6 (34:33):
Yeah, well, let's say this audio, not just for this year,
but for the next ten years. I can't guarantee the
Lakers are going to win a championship this season. But
here's how it's gonna play out. Luca Doncers just gonna
play the rest of his career with the Lakers. He's
in the seventh season, He's due for another eight to
(34:53):
ten years. He's gonna win multiple championships with the Lakers.
I don't know how many, but it's going to be
more than one. He's gonna get as sure as you
retire with the Lakers. I don't see the MAVs, you know,
hitting that at any point with what they've done.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
Just now, fair enough, fair enough. I didn't even get
to Dalton Cadeck. We'll get to that next week. Back
Mark great stuff, pal, look forward to next week.
Speaker 6 (35:16):
Our eight I appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
Mark Medina, Medina Magic are NBA. Fox Sports Radio coming up.
We set up the midnight hour seventeen minutes away. Dial
them up eight seven seven, nine nine six six three
sixty nine eight seven, seven, nine to nine on Fox.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
I'll give you the topics.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
On the table.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
We got some good ones, or you can bring your own.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Keep it lock and listening to the Bernie Frattle Show
on Fox Sports Radio. We're back in the Bernie Frattle Show,
Fox Sports Radio. We are coming you live from the
tire Act dot Com studios here in Las Vegas.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
We are about ten minutes away from the midnight out
or it is the midnight hour here in Las Vegas
from where I sit midnight Pacific time literally and perhaps
when where we are listening literally but certainly figuratively, the
midnight hour. You get to have the last word. Callers
have been phenomenal. I expect the same tonight. Eight seven, seven, nine,
(36:19):
nine six six three six nine eight seven seven Night
a night on Fox. Well your chance to chime in.
You can rant about something you want to get off
your chest, raise an issue, you've got the floor. But
I often lead the witness. Okay, for instance, all four
(36:39):
sports are being talked about right now pretty fervently. I'll
start with baseball because it's spring training. People are railing
on the Dodgers because of the money they've spent. They
spent four hundred and seventy nine million this offseason, more
than two hundred million more than any other team besides
the Mets. Okay, mainly because they gave it a lot
(37:01):
to Juan Soto. The Dodgers' luxury tax payroll three hundred
and seventy three million is by far the highest of
every team. That ticks some people off. They don't think
that's fair. But the truth of the matter is the
Dodgers aren't doing anything other teams can't, and they're not
just outbitting teams. I'll get to that later in the show.
So when you see the Dodgers doing what they're doing,
(37:23):
does that tick you off? That's one subject you can
weigh in on. Another one, Well, let's go to the
NFL Chadoor Sanders. You may have heard Jason Smith's take
there during the break outstanding it's an observation. What if
I told you that some NFL teams don't even have
a first round great on Shodor Sanders. That may not
(37:46):
be a bad thing. There have been plenty of quarterbacks
drafted in the second round under less pressure that did well.
But that doesn't mean he's going to be drafted in
the second round. So I want to hear from you.
Do you think Schudor Sanders is going to have a
good career in the NFL? And win?
Speaker 3 (38:01):
Was he sizzle or steak?
Speaker 2 (38:04):
What is he? And oh, by the way, the NFL
talking about changing the overtime rule to match the regular
season to match. I then try that again in English
in the postseason, both teams get a chance at overtime
even if a team scores a touchdown. But in the
regular season, you score a touchdown, the other team does
to get the ball. You know what, I think, get
rid of overtime during the regular season period. You play
(38:26):
sixty minutes. If you don't win, you settle for a tie.
You don't want to tie, take chances, do what you
gotta do. They're all worried about player safety anyway, where
there's less wear and tear in the body as a
commissioner goes for the eighteenth game. So you got the Dodgers,
do they take you off of their spending or what
the hell why not you got Shdor Sanders, all sizzle
or steak? You got the NFL overtime rule. I told
(38:50):
you what I just thought. How about the Lakers?
Speaker 3 (38:53):
Are they for real?
Speaker 2 (38:55):
Sixteen and four in their last twenty Are they for real?
Could Lebron and Luco pulled off this year? I really
want to hear from you and would you like to
hear it? And finally tip it off to the NHL.
They replaced their traditional All Star game format with an
international tournament called the Four Nations Faceoff. People were skeptical,
but they brought in millions of viewers and it was incredible.
(39:17):
So hell with the Pro Bowl. Hell with the NBA
All Star Game held with flag football. That's a crap
that we have to see. The Four Nations kept you
on your seat? Should other sports professional organizations? Should other
professional sports leagues be taking a hard look at this
and create something for their own particular sport. Now those
(39:39):
are your topics or you can rant eight seven, seven, nine,
nine six six three sixty nine eight seven seven ninety
nine one Fox the minnight hours here, keep it locked
to Bernie Fraddles show.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (39:53):

of money they're spending and think. It's unfair i'm not one.
Of Them mick lewis checks In Burn The Ford nations tourney.

end Up like. Edelman did elman.
Speaker 9 (42:20):
Played quarterback, in college ended up on. THE outside i
think he's gonna.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
Do whatever you're a, Thoughtful. GUY jim i don't see
that happening. At All julian edelman was a quarterback and
option Quarterback at. Kent stayed chador did complete seventy four
percent of. HIS passes i have some issues. WITH him
i think he holds the ball. Too long and You
Heard jason, smith quote which is. Spot on i'm not
sure How will h'll deal. With adversity he talks too much.
(42:45):
For me but, Continue.
Speaker 9 (42:46):
On, jim Yeah, the dodgers, you, know hey they're just
playing the game like, they're playing, you know but you
know they got they get a, bigger market they got a.
BIGGER stadium, i mean, you know ticket sales that all

The tie you Know How san diego FT and i
was going to make it TO. The nfl BUT the
i actually agree with you with, you know when the,
game's over like in soccer, ninety minutes but IN, the
nfl when, it's over it could just be a tie
because the wear and tearing. THE body i don't agree
with that. Player protection we Already Know roger goodell doesn't care.
About that and THAT'S what i think about that it
(44:56):
should just be. A tie and with the NEXT one MPa, The,
LAKERS lakers i, YOU know i AGREE like i know other, callers,
saying oh there's not too Much. The lakers but when
it's a big trade like This With, LUCA magic i really.
Love it you know that he's the main guy, Right
Now Uh lebron james is kind of hiding and the
(45:16):
interview is. Running away and not, ONLY that i mean
it's really good because The coach ham he did a
horrible job with the roster AND Now. JJ reddick i, always,
said hey he's gonna do Better. Than ham he has a,
better record he knows what he's doing with, the guys
Mixing the john.
Speaker 10 (45:32):
THE formula i really.

Speaker 2 (45:55):
Need it do you think he's gonna make it IN.
THE nfl i know he'll be on, a roster but
he's gonna. Make it he's he gonna be a. Winning
quarterback of.
Speaker 11 (46:02):
Course he's gonna make he's gonna make IT an nfl because,
his dad and he's gonna.

Win, oh yeah he's. Gonna win he's.
Speaker 11 (46:11):
A winner he HAS the dna of standards of, his
dad and he is. A winner he is. A winner
like you can't take. THAT offer i think he's gonna
he's gonna do good AND he's i really. Love that
he's a. Mobile quarterback and to be a successful quarterback IN,
the nfl he's got.
Speaker 5 (46:24):
To be a.
Speaker 11 (46:24):
Mobile quarterback who WAS the mvp of, The Season, josh
allen mobile quarterback who? Does that The Same lamar jackson

Speaker 16 (50:12):
In the, LONG term i agree with the.
Speaker 15 (50:14):
Last guy give him, the day and, YOU know.
Speaker 16 (50:17):
I could see the championships coming, all right and That Sucksh.
Speaker 2 (50:21):
DOOR sanders i know he's going to, Be drafted he's
going to be. Drafted high but what kind of career
is he going to have IN. The nfl do you
think he's all he's all sizzled or he's got plenty of.
Speaker 16 (50:29):
STEAKE too i THINK he's i think he's going to
be a good player IN, THE nfl i. Really do
you're right he holds onto the ball, too long but
it also, you know he was hit too. Much too
they never got an offense and line.
Speaker 10 (50:41):
For him.
Speaker 16 (50:42):
He had he had great players, around him.
Speaker 15 (50:44):
But not in an.
Speaker 16 (50:45):
Offensive line so he'll get some help IN, the nfl
some guys that can catch.
Speaker 10 (50:50):
THE ball i think he'll.
Speaker 16 (50:52):
BE fine i. REALLY do i think he'll.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
Be, fine okay. Fair enough any thoughts on on whether
or not the other sports leagues would pay attention and
perhaps even copy A four nations tournament of.
Speaker 16 (51:03):
Their, Own, uh, basketball maybe but the other league are,
shut up, like, hockey.
Speaker 2 (51:09):
Hockey baseball could you could HAVE The usa Japan Slay
MEXICO and, i, mean YEAH now I get i, get football,
you're limited but, but regardless, all right, fair enough, good.
Speaker 16 (51:23):
Ahead you got THE last i guess you're right baseball
basketball to join that hockey and and Make Their all
star game.
Speaker 2 (51:32):
Something, direct oh he's basketball, for sure, for SURE there's,
i mean the look at the worldwide talent that's, you

some of the ads for some of the podcasts for,
the radio like some of the fictional stuff for the,
True crime i'd rather Listen to Cat. And DIE but
i picked you up tonight for the first time since
you switched Just to saturday and stay what.
Speaker 2 (53:50):
Us man i've Been the saturday has been my gig for.
MANY years i was fortunate To have friday for the

Same TIME but, I want i hope you stay with
Us on. Saturday, Night, Andrew Yeah so.
Speaker 4 (54:07):
I'm thinking to myself when you, CAME on i missed The,
midnight hour and then you said we're gonna have The,
midnight HOUR and i did a little? Whom? Anyway good So, the,
dodgers okay everyone, was saying Are the dodgers the New?
Evil empire and in, my opinion it's more like the
That's A star. Wars, reference obviously in, my opinion they're
(54:28):
more Like, the, rebellion okay and then fair enough that,
you know And, then shador, you know he's gonna ball
out in, my OPINION and, i might.
Speaker 2 (54:41):
He might, i'm skeptical But but i'm gonna keep an. Open.
Mind uh do you have any thoughts About the lakers
and whether or not, they're gonna, you know win it?
Speaker 4 (54:51):
This, YEAR well i just have, to say, Let's.
Speaker 2 (54:53):
Go, luke yeah it's gonna, have fun fun, to watch? Right. Yep,
uh finally, last Thing The four. Nations tournament should other
sports be taking a look at?
Speaker 4 (55:04):
That model in, my OPINION the nba should go back
to The Normal All. Star game there was no problem
with it in. My, opinion yeah they scored a bunch.
Speaker 10 (55:15):
Of.
Speaker 4 (55:15):
Points whatever you can change, some things but you need the,
normal game and you Need the west Versus, the east
and you.
Speaker 10 (55:24):
Have that you.
Speaker 4 (55:25):
Represent, the west you Represent, the east and it's.
Speaker 2 (55:28):
A battle.
Speaker 4 (55:29):
It's fun.
Speaker 3 (55:31):
I'm, With.
Speaker 2 (55:31):
You, andrew unfortunately it's excessively IDEALISTIC because nba players don't
want to play hard In The all star events because
they're afraid they're going to.
Speaker 3 (55:42):
Get hurt that's simple. As that by, the Way, thanks
buddy thanks for. Checking.
Speaker 2 (55:47):
In now by, The Way bill shirley. Checks in good
show is always A. Young, dion nah he never did anything.
FOR me a lot of pitch and Catch at colorado seemed.
To me then again he rodes. Me wrong i've never
appreciated the entitle he. Comes with here, You, go sanders this.
Is yours that's the impression he. GIVES off i understand
he's more charismatic. In person but get on the field
(56:07):
WITH other nfl players and let's see how this. Act
Looks Christopher north carolina, joins us you're.
Speaker 3 (56:12):
Up next.
Speaker 2 (56:12):
Welcome, in.
Speaker 12 (56:14):
Well it's so good to hear, Your, voice Ernie and
i'm so glad that you were spending quality time with.
Your wife that's what's so.
Speaker 2 (56:21):
Important Always so I'm fighting.
Speaker 12 (56:23):
Learne and it just like you have off And so
i'll make.
Speaker 2 (56:25):
It, quick no you take, your, Time man we've GOT
some meni topics. Here day whatever you feel, strongest, ABOUT.
Speaker 12 (56:34):
Well i have TWO that i really feel, strong About,
the DODGERS and i feel really strong as a passionate
rugglings fan ABOUT. The, nhl, okay.
Speaker 8 (56:43):
Well, go, ahead, okay.
Speaker 2 (56:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (56:50):
Go ahead more.
Speaker 12 (56:51):
Power, to them because it reminds me Of mister illich
when money. Didn't matter throw it, out there. Spend it if, you,
win baby good. For you because the bottom line is and,
pro baseball it's it's. Hand track give me, the money
give me. The chance if the owners, an't AFRAID If
i dodgers ain't to spend the taxes Like the, yankees.
Speaker 9 (57:13):
Are more power.
Speaker 12 (57:14):
To Them bod like, you, said statistically there hasn't been
a repeat winner AND almost i think you've said twenty
years that being, the case you have to prove it
during the one.
Speaker 8 (57:27):
Sixty two you.
Speaker 12 (57:29):
Do that baby guesses up to the news that make
it to, the playoffs because anybody there can. Win It
so i'm Glad the dodgers are spending. The money i'm
glad that they're. Showing, baseball hey, We're.
Speaker 17 (57:41):
Here we're going to go.
Speaker 12 (57:42):
For it and if you don't, like it few, fair enough.
Speaker 2 (57:47):
Fair enough. Any thoughts so we got shador we we've
talked About. The dodgers we Got, the lakers and you
KNOW the nfl will. Check that and you Love The
red Wings The four, Nations tournament.
Speaker 12 (58:03):
So let me do that And then i'll finish in
the last two, Minor ones okay. FOR me i am
so grateful THAT the nhl got the attention. It did
it needs it because based in the fact that eighty
percent of the league is In The. United states there's
no way that they can continue to stay as poor
as a fan base that they do because they have
to keep. Looking differently the only TIME the nhl cares
(58:25):
and it matters TO the us fans by the Time
The standy cup playoffs are in here and, number two
how many? Types happen we get that. To happen it
looks like they did in the preliminary when in nine
SECONDS the Us and canada drop the gloves, and, say
hey we're going.
Speaker 8 (58:41):
To, go, on baby bring.
Speaker 12 (58:42):
It on and this just reminds me, of saying if
we want to, be different we're going to. Stand out
we're going to. Be DIFFERENT and i think that's the
great thing all sports should. Do that why because you
got to rejuniate the. Fans INTEREST the nfl could. Do
it it would be, very difficult but. THEY could, I
mean i was there during the week Of The. POWDER bowl,
(59:03):
i mean, come on, like football can you what?
Speaker 3 (59:06):
Exactly? Exactly?
Speaker 9 (59:08):
All?
Speaker 12 (59:08):
Right then so in regards, to standards you got to
put it on the field to. Prove it we can't
have as many first round draft picks to come out
and think that they can do it and. Show up
move it IN, the nfl because it isn't disame. In
college do you think you're so special and ready, to
go then come out there and.
Speaker 10 (59:30):
Do.
Speaker 12 (59:30):
It bernie i'm so glad that. You're here we really,
miss you we really love you on the weekends and
regret that you're staying with Us.
Speaker 2 (59:37):
On Saturday, Thanks pal see you.
Speaker 3 (59:39):
Next week hope to hear.
Speaker 2 (59:39):
From you Tom. And alaska we're down here in the
lower forty eight year up There in.
Speaker 3 (59:44):
God's country what you got for?
Speaker 7 (59:45):
Us?
Speaker 18 (59:45):
Tonight well and in Regards, to shuder just some of
the Stories that i've, heard about, you.
Speaker 17 (59:52):
Know him and, his brother and just the sense of
it just feels like the.
Speaker 18 (59:56):
Kids are IN final i don't KNOW if i would
want them on my team first ELITE and i just
they weren't that great. AT college i mean, they're good they're.
REALLY good i just don't see them being an ALL time.
Nfl quarterback i'm kind of, with, You man i'm not
kind of.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
WITH you i am with.
Speaker 3 (01:00:12):
You now he can prove, Us, Wrong TOM but i don't.
Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
See, that elite that one elite tool that makes you,
go wow or that super power ability other than, his
charisman his ability to talk in his. Last name.
Speaker 18 (01:00:26):
Yeah exactly in Terms Of don chic being On, THE
lakers i don't it's not his thought that he. GOT
traded i MEAN the gm of The mad rick. Got
taken in, MY opinion i don't know how you trade
somebody like that for.
Speaker 14 (01:00:42):
SO little.
Speaker 18 (01:00:45):
I think people just Hate the lakers because they. ALWAYS win,
i mean they have a history, of winning and this
winner get. Hated ON so i don't understand what the problem.
IS there i think, it's awesome like Good for lebron
he got shot in. The ARM like i think they'll
get a. Champion chip that's not, this year maybe.
Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
Next year, my opinion, fair enough they very we're gonna
got to. Be watching any thoughts On the dodgers spending, money.
Speaker 18 (01:01:12):
Again winning is Gonna, DRAW hey i don't see the
problem with. Spending money they're paying massive. Luxury taxes it's
their money if they want to. SPEND it i think
all these other fans are just mad because their teams
aren't spending.
Speaker 2 (01:01:25):
The money, bingo, bingo. Bingo Bingo and i'll tell you
A little. Lately show i'm gonna have a commentary. On
that i'm actually gonna Defend, the Dodgers and i'm gonna.
End it thanks, A, lot Tom and i'm going to
introduce some some factoids that people may or may not be.
Aware of Greg, in california Part of California, And, Greg,
(01:01:46):
hello hello what Part?
Speaker 17 (01:01:48):
Of California In, So california i'm about twenty miles south Of.
Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
Downtown, la okay sounds good.
Speaker 3 (01:01:58):
Down, the area Down, E crito.
Speaker 17 (01:02:00):
So That, are no It's Like San pedro. Torrents there
oh you're you're by.
Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
The, ocean okay got you? All right what do you got? For?
Speaker 10 (01:02:06):
Tonight, PAL well i guess we'll start With.
Speaker 7 (01:02:09):
The.
Speaker 17 (01:02:09):
Dodgers uh, you know it's still kind of shocking even
for my hometown team to be spending so. Much money
but it seems to me in, baseball lately the's a
lot of. PITCHING staffs a guy to, get hurt and
they already got, guys hurt and spring training is not even,
out yet so they're they're piling, up talent but who
(01:02:29):
knows what's going to hit. The field, you Know Supposedly
freddy freeman's ankle is not, doing well and what they're
down two or three. Pitchers already they're having to come back.
From injuries so, you know they're stockpiling talent and that's
what it takes to get through. The season, that's okay,
you know. Too bad every team can. Do it but
look at the attendants. OUT here, i mean they pack
(01:02:51):
them in here so they want they're going to spend
their money for the. Fans, too well.
Speaker 2 (01:02:57):
How about the other Lat. And lakers they just made
a big acquisition and they're gonna have to pay him to.
Keep him Are the lakers? For real will they win?
Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
A championship.
Speaker 17 (01:03:06):
I don't think they're gonna be winning a championship. THIS
year i think still the thing for them is they
need someone. Down, Low uh they're all looking good until
they Run Into joe kicks and any any Couple of
hill guys. Stay hot they can't Take the. Lakers out
but you know.
Speaker 8 (01:03:24):
He.
Speaker 17 (01:03:24):
Dominates uh But The, JACKSON mayes i have, to say
is playing playing better than he's played since he's. Been here,
so UH but i don't think they have what it
takes to get Through. The west and then you still
Have the Celtics in cleveland looking, fantastic also.
Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
So yeah it's going to be quite. A gone i
don't expect them to do it, this YEAR but i
know that that's.
Speaker 17 (01:03:46):
Their, goal Yeah and luca really hasn't even Turned into luca.
Yet either, you know he's he's very pedestrian by, his
standard so, uh yeah he'll do Well.
Speaker 8 (01:04:03):
The All.
Speaker 10 (01:04:04):
Star, games, yeah.
Speaker 17 (01:04:07):
Yeah yeah the hockey thing was out of. My mind
out of, MY mind, i mean because that's my number
one sport. Of Hockey the kings are, my team.
Speaker 15 (01:04:14):
THAT'S who i.
Speaker 17 (01:04:14):
Really, follow uh but hockey. Was GOOD baseball i think
they still have A Good All, star game but basketball
football you can't even hardly do it with with as
much as. They hit, but basketball those guys just don't
want to do, it because like, you said they were about.
Their INJURIES so i would say that don't do anything.
For them let's just, you know make a fan fast
(01:04:36):
and everybody will get autographs. OR something, i mean unless they're,
gonna play they don't even waste.
Speaker 3 (01:04:42):
Their time well, you see it's been a waste to.
Go ahead the other.
Speaker 17 (01:04:46):
Thing they were talking about, today, was uh you know ties, In,
football uh just to forget, the overtime.
Speaker 8 (01:04:53):
Don't well for the.
Speaker 3 (01:04:54):
REGULAR season, i mean if they're going to have a,
different rule.
Speaker 17 (01:04:56):
Go, AHEAD well i think what they should do is
if it's top at, then regulation march out your field
goal kickers and put the balls on the fifty and
you keep kicking until someone misses.
Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
The game, all, right man thanks, A lot. Greg appreciated
let squeeze one more, In, Here laker mike Here. In
vegas what do you got?
Speaker 8 (01:05:15):
For, us.
Speaker 14 (01:05:17):
Well speaking Of, the lakers there's been three amazing acquisitions
and times to. Buy Tickets When jerry West signed, shaquille
O'Neill that was the nineteen. Ninety six kobe was there that. Same,
Year yeah kobe was what was a speculative thing with
but it Was A jerry west speculative what happens and
(01:05:42):
on that fax machine getting season tickets at, six am
because that's.
Speaker 8 (01:05:47):
How we did it.
Speaker 14 (01:05:48):
Back, then also when the When the lakers Obtained pau
gasol red letter Day in laker History because kobe couldn't
do It without Shack and shack. Was GONE and i
remember that first And the Lakers got luke got talgasol
(01:06:10):
During the grammy road trip and the first game Was
a saturday game, home game very rare For the lakers
back then to Have the saturday home games, sold out completely,
sold out fortunately season ticket holder for all. Those years
and that. Was it and the next one Was. Getting
luca amazing and you know who's going to.
Speaker 10 (01:06:32):
Train To An all star in, That Trade.
Speaker 14 (01:06:34):
Max christie of COURSE they i mean he's playing. INCREDIBLY
well i bought those tickets To The laker dallas games
At for crypto the night That the Lakers. GOT luca
doni strove Drove to la spend my birthday.
Speaker 10 (01:06:54):
There and had an.
Speaker 14 (01:06:56):
Amazing Time but i'll tell you something that the fan
for more enthusiastics Than the lakers that Evening the Lakers
and i'll, Say we i'll call. Find up you're not
supposed to say we if you're not part of, the
TEAM but i think being a fan for fifty, FIVE
years i can.
Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
Say we Will Allow laker mike will listen pal them
up against. It here don't be. A stranger don't be
a Stranger on, saturday night As The May night, hour
continues and we've, Got boy we've got some great special surprises.

Speaker 2 (01:08:31):
And A little joe wals to. To boot so you've got,
Our topics you got, The, floor manuell what do you got?
Speaker 15 (01:08:37):
For us let's start off With, the lakers, All Right
So i'm I'm a, lakers fan Not a, Lebron fan
Big deer frience never Been into, luca really but it
was a no brain, or move you KNOW what. I
mean pelinka got a sweetheart deal and you, go younger
(01:08:57):
so you gotta pull the trigger. On, that however we
have to temper our whole thing about the, championship because as,
you know defense wins championships and dude is off the,
hook offensively and if he can get his fat ass
(01:09:19):
in checks and get to a good level, of conditioning
that's One thing lebron could help. Him with then it
could be a sweet Run for luca Here In La
so i'm going to be, open MINDED although i was
never a fan of his when he Was. In dallas
i'm not gonna lie as far As The All, star,
(01:09:40):
games man as they are, just debocles you KNOW what.
I mean i remember the DAYS of I mean i didn't,
watch it but you see Footage Of pete rose Taking Out.
RAY fox I Saw freddy linn have a hell Of
An All star game in. The EIGHTIES the nba has
(01:10:01):
to figure it out because that piece of crap that
they put on a few, weeks, back man that. Was
terrible that, WHOLE production i mean and that's part of
THE issue i got.
Speaker 7 (01:10:13):
With.
Speaker 15 (01:10:13):
SPORTS man i don't need a concert EVERY time i
go to a. SPORTING event i don't want to see
a bunch of dudes like playing their songs Or in,
mellow's case. One song you KNOW what. I mean it's
just over, the top you KNOW what.
Speaker 2 (01:10:29):
I mean i don't want To See kevin. Hart, PERIOD
man i don't get.
Speaker 15 (01:10:33):
That, Dude, MAN no, i, mean yeah he hasn't been
Good Since. Soul plane But when i'm gonna sume About,
THE dodgers, i, Mean hey i'm loving This because i'm
old enough to remember When the boss was doing this
down In the bronx and Pretty much lukeno called Them
(01:10:54):
The evil empire Because The red sox at that time
were just a bunch of Jealous baby, and, hey man
if you got, the money you. Spend IT like i
am all for organizations. Spending money that's what we. Pay
for DECs ain't cheap, No. MORE bernie i remember when
(01:11:15):
you could Get a dodger a ticket for about ten bucks.
Or less nowadays you're looking at, probably fifty not to
mention the forty they're hitting you from a courts lining
of his pockets in the. Parking Lot so i'm.
Speaker 2 (01:11:30):
Lucky, Real, QUICKLY manuel i really wanted to hear your
Take On.
Speaker 15 (01:11:32):
Shera, sanders oh you, know what he's an excellent. YOUNG
man i gotta give, him. CREDIT man i think that
he has the talent to flourish like YOU and, I,
know bernie he has to go to the. Right situation
if he goes to the, wrong situation he's probably gonna
be two, and done. You know but if he can
(01:11:54):
get in the, right PLACE then i really think he.
Can FLOURISH because, i mean love him or, Hate Him
eon shanders' world class athlete and uh, he's uh he's
part of that.
Speaker 16 (01:12:06):
Tree MAN so i.
Speaker 15 (01:12:08):
Think he's gonna be.
Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
All right, all, Right, man well, great. Stuff man don't
be a Stranger on.
Speaker 3 (01:12:13):
Saturday.
Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
NIGHTS now i, Love.
Speaker 9 (01:12:14):
You bernie.
Speaker 15 (01:12:14):
I'm glad i'm glad. You're back.
Speaker 2 (01:12:16):

BARNES hey i don't.
Speaker 7 (01:12:41):
Know if you ever want, to tell, but man does
he bring relevance.
Speaker 10 (01:12:45):
And credibility did last couple of minutes to that game
when they got a five second call and then to
go down and hit the. Winning shot, i'm like you
know that guy's but he's won a lot. Of, games
man he's never wanted To, turn oh but he's won
a heck of, A coach yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:13:03):
He, is listen they, Play hard they got a lot.
Of TALENT the sec. Is, Ridiculous jerome they're probably gonna
put thirteen teams in. The Tournament Uh nato oates is a.
Class act and he was worried three weeks ago or
a week ago this five game stretch with all five
like in the top Ten and bama's they're going down like.
Speaker 3 (01:13:22):
Bowling, pins anyway you Got The.
Speaker 7 (01:13:23):
Florida, Drome yeah and the thing about about, that tournament
the tournament, come up you're gonna have to give box
of medicine because he just kind of charritorial about home.
Speaker 10 (01:13:35):
In this time of. The year so get the, medicine
ready to get the, sedation ready because you're a dead.
Number one you know what he's gonna be like when
he's gonna be picking them to win the.
Speaker 15 (01:13:45):
Whole thing they look.
Speaker 10 (01:13:46):
Really tough but we didn't have to wait. And see
you know? About, THIS hey i found out SOMETHING today
i didn't.
Speaker 8 (01:13:52):
REALLY know i found out the left of his.
Speaker 10 (01:13:54):
Is not In the Hall, Of FAME and i wonder
how is?
Speaker 15 (01:13:57):
That possible left of.
Speaker 10 (01:13:59):
His the best luckdown corners and IN, the nfl.
Speaker 15 (01:14:03):
He's not in the hall time he's on.
Speaker 8 (01:14:05):
THE belt i.
Speaker 10 (01:14:06):
Hope he gets it because he passed away and he
was like one of. My Friends, but bud did that
guy have a lot of you?
Speaker 3 (01:14:12):
KNOW what? I, wonder yeah you know.
Speaker 2 (01:14:13):
YOUR stuff i have to wonder if the fact that
he never reached Out To darryl, Stingley once and for
those who don't know, the story he was an illegal
hit back in. The seventies he paralyzed a wide receiver
For The New england Patriots Named, darryl Stingley And daryl stingley.
Died young he never even reached out to. Him once
do you think your own that might have had something
(01:14:34):
a little to do?
Speaker 10 (01:14:35):
With, IT yeah i wouldn't. Doubt. It man that was
just a horrible you know play. That day but, YOU know,
I mean. I hope i'm just sad that he never
did because, you know that was just a, horrible thing
and How how stingley lost his life in. His career,
you know it just it was just a life, changing thing.
You Know but i'm just glad that they've done things
(01:14:55):
to try to make things better and anatolsponds injuries and
the hits and all. Of THAT but i wanted to
say something About Your. Dirk Fanders super bowl taught. Me
something never underestimate the value of a quality. Offensive line
never hit on someone's kid. To FAIL because i don't,
have KIDS but i never hit on anyone's kid. To
(01:15:16):
FAIL and i would tell. You something he loves his.
Old man. The, pieces okay he's Like a veltro with his.
Old man, you know they're. Really tightened daddy. Was coming
you need to find yourself a. Life somewhere but, you,
know hey he loves.
Speaker 15 (01:15:29):
His dad.
Speaker 10 (01:15:29):
THE teachers i Can't, blame, YEAH.
Speaker 2 (01:15:31):
Man i got to, Say, you jerome it'll be a
much better Story If shador sanders has success IN the
nfl and leads your team to the playoffs to get
Through The, Super bowl it'll be a much.
Speaker 3 (01:15:41):
Better Story but i'm.
Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
NOT sure i have.
Speaker 7 (01:15:45):
TO be i have to.
Speaker 2 (01:15:46):
SEE it i have to, see it, all right last,
ANYTHING else.
Speaker 10 (01:15:50):
I just TELL you i wish, him luck, you know
because it's a bad look to hit on. People's, Kids,
man oh, you know get you? For? That boy got
to come and thanks.
Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
A lot i'm always. Appreciate you don't be a Stranger. On,
SATURDAYS look i want to make this. Abundantly clear i'm
not rooting For shudor sanders. To fail i've MERELY said
i don't necessarily see that, one elite that one elite
tool that makes him a top, ten pick or that.
Superpower talent he can still prove me wrong and it'd
be a. Great story Rick, and louisiana you're. Up next. Welcome, In,
(01:16:24):
yes hello how? Are? You rick you're on.
Speaker 8 (01:16:27):

PLAYED guilty i.
Speaker 3 (01:16:58):
Played. Guilty yeh it's it's.
Speaker 8 (01:16:59):
Been brutal he is glad to hear you. Doing okay
i'd like to Start. WITH shader i think that to.
Do her the key in, my OPINION and i agree
with the previous, caller too is going to be his.
Offensive LINE and i just think that because he does
hold the ball a, little bit he's gonna need a
(01:17:19):
good offensive line because the Little bit i've seen, of
him he's not really just wanting to run. The ball
he wants to stand there in the pocket and, you know.
Do IT and i think that that the key to
that doing that in the pros is he's got to
have a good. Offensive line and there are quarterbacks in
(01:17:40):
the league that, don't run, so yeah and that HE needs.
I needs i think he needs an offensive line that's gonna,
protect him and that's really gonna be. The KEY but
i think he's gonna. Do alright and with with. THE right,
(01:18:02):
i mean THAT'S what. I think i think he's gonna.
Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
Do Well, AND rick i, appreciate, YOU man i didn't
manage the, clock well it's. Anything. ELSE quickly i got to.

Speaker 8 (01:18:11):
UH okay i will say that in my many years of,
Watching sports i've seen teams both in a lot of different, in,
baseball basketball football, that well mainly basketball and in baseball
where they put a lot of money into. Those teams
but that doesn't guarantee that that's.
Speaker 2 (01:18:31):
That's right you got to hold. That, thought rick don't be.
A Stranger, AND saturday i want to hear from. You,

Speaker 3 (01:18:36):

thoughtful interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:20:36):
Varying opinions appreciate.
Speaker 2 (01:20:38):
It Man every. SATURDAY night i have held this Spot
down saturday from eleven pm to three am for about
five six. YEARS now i ain't, going ANYWHERE and i
really love the fact that the midnight callers step up
in such a. Great way, all, RIGHT listen i WANT
to i have to take a minute to give my
two cents on these TOPICS that i just shared with
(01:21:01):
the matches For the midnight. Our Callers and i'm going
to start With. The dodgers hear, me out because you
may be surprised WITH what i tell you, all right we.
Get it by, The numbers they've already ditched out almost
four hundred and eighty a million. This offseason that's two
hundred million more than any other team except For, the
mets mainly Because the mets Signed. Want, soto Now the
(01:21:23):
dodgers will head into this season with a payroll of
three hundred and seventy two point, two million and they're
away over the. Luxury tax that's by far the highest of. Any,
team right but even that number belies how much their
roster costs due to their unprecedented use. Of deferrals, IF you,
(01:21:43):
i mean you think about how much They're, deferring shobeotani,
et cetera. Et cetera so that's allowed them to sort
of spend freely while incurring some. Minor, penalties now if
you think that three hundred and seventy two millions. A
lot WHAT if i told You the dodgers have well
one point four billion dollars in deferred money on their.
(01:22:04):
Active contracts the only teams that are even more than
fifty million in deferred money Are the Mets And. Red,
sox now with all that money That the dodgers are,
laying out here's, the reality no team has won back To.
Speaker 3 (01:22:18):
Back world series in twenty, five years and.
Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
Just two of the raigning champs in the last twenty
five years even made it back To The fall Classic
The world series the. Following year but having said, ALL
that i don't think it's fair to hate On. The
Dodgers and i'm gonna tell.
Speaker 3 (01:22:38):
You why hear.
Speaker 2 (01:22:39):
Me Out the dodgers aren't doing anything that other, teams
can't and they're not just. Outbidding, teams Look shohey otani
offered his seven hundred million dollar contract with deferrals to
every team who wanted to. Sign him he just simply Chose.
The dodgers in, the end had that same, twelve year
(01:23:02):
three hundred and twenty five million dollar contract offer on
the table From The New, york mets he, JUST said
i want to play For. The dodgers in, THE end
i want to Be. A dodger he could have gone
elsewhere for as. Much, money sasaki who's a different case
because he's considered an amateur international. Free agent he left
(01:23:24):
four million dollars on the table to sign With, the
padres a check At the dodgers Over. The Padres the
padres Actually offered Sasaki roast sasaki four million more Than the,
dodgers Did, and susaki Along with Yamamoto, and OTANI said
i want to Be.
Speaker 3 (01:23:41):
A dodger you know who?
Speaker 2 (01:23:42):
Else Did. Tioscar hernandez he left six million on the
table to stay With the dodgers.
Speaker 7 (01:23:49):
This.
Speaker 2 (01:23:49):
Offseason why here's. His Quote the dodgers. They're Different tioscar
hernandez said he was motivated to. Come back, he, said
quote they think, about everybody not only, the players not
only THE things i can do on. The field, for
me they just gave me the CONFIDENCE that i never
really got in other PLACES where. I, work, yeah actually
(01:24:10):
this is.
Speaker 3 (01:24:11):
A job it's an.
Speaker 2 (01:24:12):
Important job so when you have that kind, of buying
when you have that kind, of camaraderie when you have
that kind, of loyalty it's not just.
Speaker 3 (01:24:19):
The money they're not just outbidding. Other teams they're doing
some of.
Speaker 2 (01:24:23):
That too but look at the quotes Here from Yamamoto
and Sasaki and otani And. Tascar ornandez it really Is a. Dodger.
Family now the SECOND thing i wanted to, TALK about
i want to weigh my two cents is you saw
that this Year The national hockey league decided to replace
(01:24:43):
Its Traditional All star game with an international format that
they Called The Four Nations. Face off we were.
Speaker 3 (01:24:50):
BLOWN away i was TRAVELING and.
Speaker 2 (01:24:54):
I, watched it, and man, oh man. Oh man it's
hard to it's hard to artificially create that kind, of
excitement and, it's hockey which most people. Don't understand they
took the league's best Players, From, Canada, finland sweden And The.
United states they face off on a round, robin format
(01:25:14):
and Of course canada ended up winning the championship game
OVER the us. And overtime the only thing that bugs me,
is why, you KNOW the usa beat, them Once then
canada beat them in the. Championship game why the Hell
did WHY did us they have to beat them twice?
To win that's beside. The point it was on a.
Speaker 3 (01:25:35):
Batched success and let's.
Speaker 2 (01:25:37):
Not forget heading Into The four, nations tournament a lot
of people were skeptical BECAUSE the nfl is losing Viewers
During all. Star weekend but whatever expectations, they had they.
Were shattered they were completely. Blown away these games brought
millions of Viewers Across north america the rest of. The
world in the championship, game alone over ten million viewers.
(01:26:00):
TUNED in i got a tweet from, a gentleman A
gentleman Big. Rig rob, He said bernie love. THE show
i had to chime in On The four nations my
seventy four year, old FATHER and i happened to Stubble
upon CANADA.
Speaker 3 (01:26:13):
Versus usa he's never even watched a hockey game in.
Speaker 2 (01:26:16):
His life he hasn't stopped watching hockey since this had
more intensity and the players are saying This Than stanley,
cup GAME and i have to agree. With him I've
Covered stanley cup games. All right so you have a
situation WHERE the nhl was able to bring in a
massive increase in viewership from the twenty Twenty Four All
(01:26:38):
star game a year later that saw about a million
four to two in one point four million viewers. Tune
in they increased that by nine, hundred percent like THE
Usual Nhl All. Star, game NOW the NFL and nba
have seen dramatically decreased viewership over the. Past year, this
(01:26:58):
MONTH the nfl and then Had Their all star events
last Month, actually february and they were. Not GOOD The Nfl,
pro bowl if you want to, call it that was
already down in twenty twenty four falling off, a cliff
they lost a million, more viewers WHILE The Nba All,
star game well it did average four point, seven million that,
little tournament but that was a decrease from. Last, year
(01:27:19):
Also The pro bowl a bunch of. Replacements been he,
opted out, For Instance josh allen. Opted Out lamar jackson did.
Not participate the flag football style has just falling short of.
Anybody's expectations there's nothing against the sport of, flag football
but you don't want to see the best in the
world playing. Flag, football okay in, all honesty fans don't
(01:27:42):
want to watch. Flag football they don't want to watch
three on. Three tournaments the ratings. Show it but In The,
four nations every single game kept you on, your seat
whether it was the multiple. Overtime games he had three
fights in the first ten seconds of The FIRST canada.
Usa game that, we're Missing Really, hanson BROTHERS the Usa.
(01:28:02):
And canada if you don't think these games meant, a
lot meant the world of, these players then you're. Not
watching they gave it their all with, their fights their,
hard hits the way they. Played hockey, quite frankly it
was the best international hockey probably in ten years the
Twenty Sixteen world Cup, of hockey but that was the
(01:28:23):
LAST time nhl players were allowed to play in an
international Tournament.
Speaker 7 (01:28:29):
The.
Speaker 2 (01:28:29):
Four nations the question, now becomes might it be a
blueprint on what professional sports IN the us should be
doing for All Their all? Star BREAKS the NBA and
nfl specifically are going to continue to lose their fan
base if they don't. Do, SOMETHING now i REALIZE the
nfl can't play you A four. Nations tournament come up.
With something you got a bunch of smart guys running.
(01:28:52):
That LEAGUE, The, nba yes you can field teams from four,
countries easily and it would be great. To watch, with baseball,
for sure don't You Remember shohio tani Striking Up mike
trout In The World. BASEBALL classic usa didn't Win The
World baseball classic two, years ago It. Was japan now
let's move Along To dion Sanders And Jerome's south carolina
(01:29:15):
brought up a, great point Don't, be hayden and he wasn't, Accusing.
Speaker 3 (01:29:18):
Us hayden.
Speaker 2 (01:29:20):
I'm.
Speaker 3 (01:29:20):
Not hayden these.
Speaker 2 (01:29:22):
Are reality some teams don't even have a first round
great on Shoot. Or, sanders now that might be a. Good,
thing okay in the eyes OF some, nfl teams he
might not be a first. Round talent and if for
some reason he slips to the, second ROUND which i
don't think is, gonna happen that's just that's just simply fortune.
Cookie wisdom there's just too much, hype INVOLVED and i
(01:29:42):
think someone's gonna take. A flyer but if that were,
to happen that could Work in sanders favorite. Over time
you may or may Not Remember. Dan marino you can
see the. Thirty thirty he was the sixth quarterback drafted
overall in the famous nineteen to eighty. Three draft and
you know how much he benefit, from that falling all
the way to the end of the. First. Round one
(01:30:02):
he got to Join The, miami dolphins a team who'd
been In The super bowl seven. Months, earlier yeah he
got to play for a head coach by the Name Of,
don shula who was a. Quarterback whisperer, and finally by
falling that far down behind Guys Like john elway and,
You Know Jim jim Kelly and, kenny, O'Brien, etcetera Etcetera And,
(01:30:27):
todd blackledge there were lower Expectations and marino went on
to light.
Speaker 7 (01:30:31):
It.
Speaker 2 (01:30:31):
Up, okay now one of the ridiculous parts of the
pre draft process is where you have these anonymous scouts
and coaches. And executives they make their opinions clear about,
draft prospects but they stay they do so behind the veil. Of,
anonymity okay so they can make statements they believe or.
They don't some people might might find them to. Be
(01:30:52):
outrageous but there's one thing that has come Out About
schudort sanders that does make sense in, a way but
it Could benefit sanders he transitions TO.
Speaker 3 (01:31:00):
The, nfl recently On.
Speaker 2 (01:31:03):
The Rich, eisen show a Network on saturda by the
Name Of tom pellisero said he shared FROM multiple nfl
teams who didn't have anything close to a first round Grade,
on sanders despite the fact that he threw for forty one,
hundred yards thirty, seven touchdowns, ten interceptions and then a
passer eighty. One sixteen, but see that's not necessarily a.
Bad thing even IF every nfl team struggled to hold
(01:31:25):
a first round Grade, on sanders that doesn't mean he
won't be selected highly in. That round even if, he
ISN'T which i don't think. Will, happen sanders like every
other quarterback who's trying to make wants to make the
jump TO, the nfl might benefit from a better system
and a better, coaching staff JUST like i told you
About With, dan rito than he would have as a
top five or top. Ten, Pick okay sanders is a
(01:31:48):
nuanced quarterback in a weird.
Speaker 3 (01:31:51):
Draft class.
Speaker 2 (01:31:53):
All right and the truth of the, MATTER is i.
DON'T know i don't know who.
Speaker 3 (01:31:58):
IS compass i.
Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
Don't know i've seen, HIM enough i SAID when i
first his first Year, at COLORADO so i think this
kid could be a. First grounder but THE more i,
saw him he stocked. And rise in, my eyes it.
Flattened out what are his pluses when he has time?
And people when some of the callers brought up a,
GOOD point I think Rick and louisiana brought up an.
Excellent point the dude's couldn't need an offensive line spot
(01:32:20):
on and if he. Gets one One of sander's PLUSES
is i do think he's adept at working through progressions
in the. Rout tree he, stays calm he does keep
his eyes, down field and if he, has time he.
Sees unaffected he doesn't have kind of a hurried pace
or jumpy feet about him when he has to read
through a play outside of his. Pocket movement he's not
(01:32:41):
a default baylock Quarterback Like justin. Fields is when his
first read, Isn't open sanders has proven when he, HAS
time i think he can work. Through pressure he can move,
enough horizontically he can move vertically through the pocket just
enough to make the, right throw and he can release
the ball most of the time with. Good, timing now
when he throws on, the move as Long as sanders
(01:33:01):
has his shoulders right and he's aimed at, the target he's.
Fairly consistent he has shown. Great accuracy he's throwing good velocity.
All right he was also pretty good Against the blitz
last season, fifteen touchdowns two interceptions on a passer rating
of one. Twenty five and, On occasion sanders CAN be
(01:33:22):
i think a productive rusher. On scrambles but don't make
the mistake to think he's an alpha dog anywhere NEAR
like I Am, lamar jackson or Even At, josh allen.
Speaker 6 (01:33:33):
Or Not At.
Speaker 2 (01:33:33):
Justin fields he's generally looking to throw the ball into
the last second until. He can't those are, his pluses
His minuss if you really look at him objectively and
you're a. Football guy he can be a bit loose with,
his mechanics especially when he's trying to throw deep. Under,
pressure okay he does have the ability to zing the
ball twenty five yards down field with a flick of,
(01:33:54):
a wrist but he really needs to drive the ball
from his.
Speaker 3 (01:33:58):
Lower body he needs to do.
Speaker 2 (01:34:00):
That better he has a good, deep arm but nothing
special he'd be in terms of his deep throw ability
ON an nfl LEVEL against. Nfl defenses he's not a transcendent.
DEEP thrower i think if you watch his, lower body
he's not driving the ball as much from. His legs
he also has. To shore sanders also has to guard
(01:34:23):
against the tendency to throw these fade away jumpers from
deep in. The pocket he'll kind of bend his upper body.
Back right it's like a guy fade away from the
basket trying a. Three pointer sanders is more of a
seat and throw a quarterback than a true. Anticipatory thrower
that's something he's going to have to. Work on he
got about two point. Five seconds he can potentially become
(01:34:44):
more dangerous IN the nfl if he can learn to
throw his receivers open when his back foot hits the
ground at the end of. His drops not a, fatal
flaw but again the nuances of anticipation he is going
to have to develop in a big way at the. Next,
level now it looks a lot of the time that
he's he's waiting for the receiver to, cross midline or
(01:35:06):
he'll throw late behind the receivers on. CROSSING gress i
saw that, a lot and that delay he's a lot
where a sacks. Came from he got sacked ninety. Four
times he has a tendency to wait too long to
turn it loose as his. Roots progress now he'll benefit
better as a red zone passer when he throws the
ball more in rhythm when the receiver. Comes open you're
(01:35:27):
gonna have to do that IN, the nfl, you Know See,
joe Burrow See. Patrick mahomes that's, the standard all. Right
conclusion if you want an athletic quarterback who's a, good
athlete not a, GREAT athlete i think the shoedor has
the ability to morph into a guy who understands the
art of quarterbacking much more Than justin fields. Is Shown
(01:35:50):
justin fields is fourteen To thirty as, A Starter Love
justin fields as a, HUMAN being i don't. GET him
i don't get that he's A default his default mechanism is.
Speaker 9 (01:35:59):
To run.
Speaker 3 (01:36:01):
He's late to make, his reads he's late to make.
Speaker 2 (01:36:03):
His throws not. Particularly accurate but he's, a competitor he's
a stellar individual and the. Tutele pro he'll be on
a sideline for the next. TEN years i don't think
he's a starter IN. The Nfl and steve people, still
well we still don't know what he. Can do what
do you mean he's had forty. Four, Starts okay sanders
has that a potential to be that third level. Pure quarterback,
(01:36:25):
All right he's got to tighten up. Some things he's
got to tight he's got to clean up. Some things
he's a little loose with some of. His mechanics some
people compare Him To, jordan love. All Right jordan love
is six'. Four to nineteen sanders is. Six To Two
but jordan love took some time to learn the art
of throwing with anticipation and how to get the ball
(01:36:45):
released when the timing. Of It down and love didn't
necessarily lead with a, run game too although he has
some tools that, fortunately the offense He Runs. In green
bay they don't require him, to do, That all right
But Look at jordan love. Three years later he's become
a force multiplayer, as a, passer all right one. Of
the nfls he's running a very Complex Offense in green
(01:37:07):
bay and a very. Effective Passing game jordan love had
three Years to refine sanders, could do that but he's
got to do it, at this point. It's, all theoretical
finally we didn't get too deep. Into THIS one the
nfl is changing considering changing their overtime rule in their
regular season to decrease the advantage for teams to win.
(01:37:27):
The Coin toss troy, vince had said it's time to rethink.
The overtime, rule you think why would you have a
different overtime rule in the regular season than you would
from the preseason see. In the postseason current rules give
both teams an opportunity to possessed the ball unless that's
the regular, season excuse me unless a touchdown is scored in.
The first possession but receiving teams in overtime in the
(01:37:51):
last seven years win the game fifty seven percent. Of
the time that is enough of an unfair. Advantage to
me lead me to believe you either match the overtime
rule with the regular season that you're currently using, in
the postseason or you just play four quarters and you
end up in a tie in. THE regular season i
(01:38:13):
think that. Would be good there aren't that. Many ties
anyway there aren't that many. Overtime games anyway players are
worried about player safety playing that extra fifteen minutes or
whatever the hell it could. Be ten, minutes all right you.
GET the picture I Know the competition committee is going,
to review that among expansion of replay assistant on other
(01:38:33):
things we'll get into later. In the spring, BY the
way i should have brought up the, touch push. TOO
tharn't it i don't gonna have to bring IT up
to i really want to hear what the callers got to.
Speaker 3 (01:38:41):
SAY on that i don't think they should ban.
Speaker 2 (01:38:44):
The Touch push the eagles. HAVE mastered it i think
they've run it one hundred, and sixteen times and the
next closest teams running.
Speaker 3 (01:38:50):
LIKE fifty five i think It's like the bears. Of
all teams the.
Speaker 2 (01:38:53):
Third is sixteen Why Penalizes the philadelphia eagles because? They've
mastered it you figured it out or figure out a
way to stop it if you. Don't like it but
they're just, piling up guys and, they block better and
football is blocking, and tackling anyway and they run over
you better and they, hit you harder and that's how.
They do, It all, right coming up we are going.
(01:39:14):
To dive In Now that matt stafford is Settled Back.
In los angeles. WHAT a shock i never thought He was.
Leaving la never you might have wanted to because he
wanted to get Paid once the rams gave him the
green light to check what his.
Speaker 3 (01:39:28):
Market value, was all right they did.
Speaker 10 (01:39:30):
Their due.
Speaker 2 (01:39:31):
Diligence he's back We'll see if stafford. He come through
But Now that, matt stafford's settled what about some of the,
other usual, suspects You Know, the Aaron Rodgers, the Sam donald's,
the brock parties and, BY the.
Speaker 3 (01:39:43):
Way i want to Get into. That donald dilemma.
Speaker 2 (01:39:46):
They Got it the vikings is going to have to

All right Back On The, Bernie Fraddle Show, fox sports
radio coming to live from the tarrac dot com Studios Here.
In las vegas and on And On the quarterback carouseil goes.
Where it ends nobody knows lots of. Ground to cover
we begin With The. Affable matt stafford he had been
(01:40:59):
set to make twenty three million in base salary for.
Twenty twenty five he also had no significant guaranteed money remaining.
On his deal stafford's made four hundred million, in his
career but apparently. THAT'S not enough i know you don't count.
ANYBODY else's money, i get it but you, can. Have
opinions right stafford wanted to be paid more like the
(01:41:19):
other fifty million dollar guys, we've you know maybe you're
not As Good, as matt stafford. According to Him so
The Rams gave matt stafford permission to speak to other teams. About,
POTENTIAL trades well i Think that. Served stafford well he
had a pretty solid, season last year completed sixty six
percent of his passes thirty. Seven hundred Yards led the rams.
(01:41:41):
Of the playoffs They Beat the white vikings like a
drum on the. Wild card round they don't want to
see A World, without matt stafford at. LEAST for now
I really respect sean McVeigh. And his decisiveness, they, BASICALLY
serve notice i don't think we're letting us go.
Speaker 3 (01:41:56):
Out the door and with all.
Speaker 2 (01:41:58):
Due Respect to colin cowardy really Wanted To see aaron
Rodgers Here. In los angeles and He'd Even. Bring, devanta, adams?
Okay great great uh want You To bring, Don maynard
too god. Rest, his soul look that was. Never gonna
happen that just was. Never gonna, Happen no Way not
(01:42:18):
that Rogers doesn't that we're gonna get to that. In
a Minute not that rogers isn't. It up somewhere but
See now that stafford is settled right the, combined right now,
they're you know the league in their thirty two franchises
are looking at all the draft prospects and do we
want to hit a jackpot? On a passer. Because it's.
RARE it's, rare i mean the only good thing about
(01:42:40):
it is you get That friendly rookie wade scale that
CAPS players. For us contracts but when you look at
all the media and the front office executives and scouts
and coaches all putting their Heads Together At, LUCAS oil
stadium i gotta tell you there's no one. In this
class and, That Includes you Door Sanders and cam woord
and anybody else that might supersede a veteran signal caller
(01:43:03):
for the next. Couple, of, Years okay again stafford had
received permission to speak to other teams about the trade
and he wanted to raise and likely he's.
Speaker 3 (01:43:13):
GONNA get one. I don't know i haven't seen.
Speaker 2 (01:43:15):
The numbers yet. MAYBE someone has i think it's in
the forty, million dollar range or, Maybe more right i'm
not going to waste my time Going Into the jordan
schultze and Rap up.
Speaker 3 (01:43:27):
ARTS starbucks, deal I mean as.
Speaker 2 (01:43:30):
Rappaport Refuted some of schultz's, YOU know reportage, i, don't know, man.
Speaker 3 (01:43:35):
It's yeah you just kind of run into A.
Speaker 8 (01:43:38):
GUY in.
Speaker 2 (01:43:39):
Montana i know Maybe maybe maybe brady didn't, host him
right maybe they maybe it wasn't like.
Speaker 3 (01:43:45):
A FORMAL thing but.
Speaker 2 (01:43:47):
I don't, know all right we'll just. Let That go
so stafford is now bought. And paid for so here Come.
The Next, Dominos Aaron Rodgers. Remember aaron rodgers he's probably
got some gas left, in the tank and he, is
a veteran he Has Won, a super bowl and he's
part of.
Speaker 3 (01:44:06):
The, Quarterback carousel obviously rogers.
Speaker 2 (01:44:09):
Is looking for a Team after the jets decided not,
up in here we don't really need you back for.
A third season that was a little bit controversial all.
The way around although In, fairness to, rogers you know
reports of the demise of the you know attitude as
far as the Camaraderie and respect rogers out, of. HIS
(01:44:30):
teammates don't i don't know. THAT that's True i think
rogers probably that locker room was not as bad. As
people think they. Just, didn't win okay but give It Up.
To aaron glenn their new head coach Come. Over from
detroit is you know prior to the defensive, coordinator, he
said cool this is not going to be THE last.
Decision i make that's going to. UPSET some people I Don't.
(01:44:51):
Blame aaron glenn. It didn't work what does slate clean?
Start over that that whole deal was nothing but mass
frustration and. It wasn't, cheap and oh, by the way
they're still. Paying For it the jets are gonna incur
a forty nine million. Dollar, cap hit yes they can
spread it out the, next two seasons but that's a
forty nine million.
Speaker 3 (01:45:08):
Dollar cap.
Speaker 2 (01:45:09):
Hit all right rogers clearly will have less of A market,
than stafford did although one rumor, had you Know him
taking Stafford's JOB at La f and.
Speaker 3 (01:45:19):
RAMS moved on i don't think that was ever.
Speaker 2 (01:45:22):
Going to, happen all right what's Gonna Happen? With sam? Donald,
All right well sam's not won a Ring yet and
rogers was still like Another paycheck. As stafford did donald
stole most of the, headlines, last year okay and his
stellar play last Year helped the vikings to a fourteen,
(01:45:43):
and three record but he played on, a one year
ten million dollar Deal and the vikings appear unlikely. TO
franchise tagging I don't know i would DO that, if
i were that would lock him into another, one year
deal but this time it would be. Forty million dollars but. You,
DON'T know, listen jj McCarthy maybe the Greatest Thing. Since
pepperoni pizza he's. Got to prove he's got two knee,
injuries to overcome and he's never done ANYTHING in the
(01:46:06):
nfl because he hasn't a.
Speaker 3 (01:46:07):
Chance to yet But you know.
Speaker 2 (01:46:09):
Donald's, APPROVEN commodity. Okay jj McCarthy he'll have a salary
cap hit at just. Under five million donald will be
seeking a, multi year deal probably look near. One HUNDRED
million But i, think kevin O'Connell who's a, very bright
guy the head Coach, of the vikings has basically said
that we are going to evaluate the short term and.
(01:46:30):
LONG term aspects i would not be so quick to
close The Door. On sam donald i'll get To what
the vikings options are. In A minute So, i think
donald no matter, where he lands is going to get.
A Nice paybamp rock perdy is on the line for
what theoretically should be an even. Bigger, Pay Race, okay
JOHN Lynch The, gm john lynch Who Just traded deebo
(01:46:52):
samuel for a, fifth round, pick he said they've. Already
begun negotiations, for whatever reason people just don't want to
let go of The Fact that rock purty was the
last pick of the TWENTY twenty. Two nfl draft but you.
KNOW what's Crazy I think kenny pickett's made like ten million.
In the league you're not. Gonna Believe this rock purty's
(01:47:12):
made two point nine million during his three seasons, in
the league despite leading the forty nine ERS to two
nfc championship Games And. Won super bowl now in, twenty
twenty five he set to make five point twenty six
million because, of performance escalators But instead the, purty you
know could in theory be one of the more richer PLAYERS.
(01:47:33):
In the Nfl if then diners decided to take. CARE of,
Him i mean jerry Did That. With dak prescott he's
the league's highest player with an average annual salary.
Speaker 3 (01:47:42):
Of sixty Million i'm sure dak's.
Speaker 2 (01:47:44):
A nice guy but does that give you a warm
and Fuzzy feeling knowing, dack's under center watching at the
back of the last for years and the postseason and
the fact that he he got. Hurt Last Year, now
john lynch, he's on, record, is saying Quote we want
brock to be our quarterback as long as we're hearing
beyond and we'll.
Speaker 3 (01:48:05):
Be AT that And I think john lynch's. A stellar
guys so they're gonna.
Speaker 2 (01:48:08):
Figure something out But You, Got, purdy rogers, stafford you
know and Then You got shidra Sanders And. Cam ward
wore all these guys end, Up, Nobody knows okay so,
my prediction, is and WAIT how Could I. Forget Kirk
cousins The Falcons gave kirk cousins one hundred million guaranteed
(01:48:28):
last offseason and benched him.
Speaker 3 (01:48:30):
Before he completed.
Speaker 2 (01:48:31):
A full season now they say, He'll be back but
you really think they can bring him back as A Backup.
To michael pennix.
Speaker 9 (01:48:39):
Do you?
Speaker 2 (01:48:39):
Think, that's possible, yeah that's, Possible all right but you
know you're looking at like throwing away money like You Threw.
Speaker 3 (01:48:47):
With, deshaun watson Right How.
Speaker 2 (01:48:49):
About derek carr he's not exactly been a Home Run,
in NEW orleans and i can tell you The Sentiment
of new orleans isn't Exactly High. On derek carr but
they got, The New. Coach kellen moore he'll make a
decision on car isn't really given really, a you know.
Speaker 7 (01:49:03):
A.
Speaker 2 (01:49:03):
Vote, of confidence yeah but we'll Have to see and
Then Of. Course, anthony richardson right we think It's best for.
Anthony to compete so you think he completed forty seven percent?
Of his, PASSES all right i want to Go Back
to sam donald because there are specific Options that the vikings.
Have With, him all right we all know, that The
(01:49:24):
season the cinderella season landed on its head in. A
bad way once the calendar turned to, the new year,
it got ugly and it. Got even Uglier first the
vikings Got completely the lions rolled him like a stick
horse in the.
Speaker 3 (01:49:39):
Regular season finale Then that the.
Speaker 2 (01:49:42):
Vikings Traveled to los angeles, the following week only to
be completely vote Raced by The. Rams in arizona minnesota
scored just nine points in each of the, last two
weeks and that put the onus squarely on The Head,
of sam darnald who had signed a one year ten.
Million dollar contract and before those two Games In which
(01:50:03):
sam donald was forty three of eighty one through, just
one touchdown, sacked eleven times it Was looking like donald
was about to get a. Long, term deal Okay so
the vikings could still do that if they believe the
kid's twenty seven years old for, crying OUT loud and
i think that he may have learned from those. Two
(01:50:23):
playoff games he's been. In, those situations, now you know
there was some drop passes, and Dropped interceptions and i'm
not Making, excuses, for DONALD right but i wouldn't be
so quick to throw him in. The trash heap he
could get a four YEAR deal and i won sixty
million dollars ranged, in this market that could look like a.
Bargain three earstrawt you got NO guarantees from jj McCarthy
(01:50:44):
that if you really want, to get saucy it's possible
McCarthy could command the first round and return in. The
open market given this week's check that this year's week.
Quarterback DRAFT class do i? Think that'll, happen probably Not
but the vikings should think long And hard about that might,
(01:51:05):
sound dumb now but not so much in a. Year
or two the other thing you Can Do. Franchise sam
donald minnesota could test. The walk waters all they got
to do is franchise, him one year guaranteed deal forty one,
million or so and that would be more than twice
as much as he's made in. Any other season then
they could even Try to trade donald while. He's under
(01:51:25):
contract but, to keep, him you know you don't want
this state of limbo like he's just keeping the SEAT worn.
From jj McCarthy because that leads to, the third thing you'll.
Let him walk that. Would be craziness, In my opinion
Minnesota Could let sam donald go and just simply hand
THE keys. To jj McCarthy the question Is whether the
(01:51:45):
vikings believe McCarthy is really ready to take over, for
any reason not the least of which he's coming off
a fairly serious knee injury and the team has the
ancillary pieces to. Compete Right now justin jefferson. Was not
middle he had. A neutral, opinion he said it's not
my job to. Say his Quarterback my prediction donald will Be,
(01:52:07):
back in minnesota maybe on a, two year deal maybe
not just a, one year deal but a.
Speaker 3 (01:52:13):
Two YEAR deal but i.
Speaker 2 (01:52:14):
Think you're crazy, by The, way the raiders who get
more time in the news. Than they deserve they also
need to find a new quarterback after Striking Out, on
matthew stafford if you want to. Call It that adam
schefter mentioned there are three different quarterbacks who He believes
the raiders could look to. As a Solution You, mentioned
sam donald who remember as, a three agent As well
(01:52:36):
As Steelers quarterback russell Wilson And. Even Justin Fields why
justin fields keeps coming up boils me away fourteen and thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:52:46):
As a starter you know what you. Have with him
i'll repeat it.
Speaker 2 (01:52:49):
One last time he's a glorified read. Option only quarterback
he's a college version of a read option quarterback because
his default mechanism. Is to run he is. A consummate
professional he's got. A cannon army it can run. Like
to win so if, you haven't punt pass, and kick
competition you want To Bet on justin fields as long
as he's not going up against Thirteen Year old Andrew
(01:53:09):
Reid on, monday night football those are. Your three options
darnald's an. Intriguing option again he's coming off that big
Regular season with minnesota through for forty four hundred yards.
Thirty five touchdowns it's not bad when you've, led a
team even though you sputtered. In the playoffs when you've
led a team to a fourteen and, three regular season
you should have. People's attention Now wilson and fields split
(01:53:31):
time at Quarterback for the.
Speaker 3 (01:53:32):
Steelers last season fields.
Speaker 2 (01:53:33):
Began as a Team starter as wilson was recovering from.
A knee injury to be very revealing To You that
mike tomlin would elect to not have him start even though.
Speaker 3 (01:53:45):
They were winning and you know why.
Speaker 2 (01:53:46):
Watch the film guys are, running wide, around you know
receivers are, running Wide open and fields doesn't. Even see
him So, the veteran wilson Who's Won a super bowl in,
mid to two stepped.
Speaker 3 (01:53:58):
IN took over i know he.
Speaker 2 (01:54:00):
Makes people cringe he passed for eleven hundred and six
yards five touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (01:54:05):
In Ten games the steelers win.
Speaker 2 (01:54:07):
Four, and two look the bottom line Is if the
steelers don't want either one, of those guys or they're Not.
Sure right wilson I've checked that wilson passed for twenty,
five hundred, yards sixteen. Touchdowns five interceptions he could also
run a little bit right By the way steelers win
six and. Five eleven starts wilson has a History with
the raiders New Head. Coach pete carroll have they passed?
(01:54:29):
Up their differences. Maybe THEY did all i Know is
the raiders went four and. Thirteen last, season they desperately
desperately need. Help at quarterback they're set to pick number
six overall. In the, draft you know do you address the?
Quarterback position there do You pick At? Shood or sanders
if you, are asking me if it's my job and paycheck,
(01:54:50):
on the line there ain't no Way in Hell I'm
drafting shootdor sanders number six overall to Come. To the raiders,
by the way they're going To Bring back gardner minshew
for the twenty. Twenty five season dan O'Connell appears to
be the backup in. PERPETUITY coming up i want To
Revisit the victor wimbernama thing. Ever so quickly there's some
(01:55:10):
thoughts on that and. SOME historical perspective i am believing
he's going to make it back. And be okay what's
happened to players that that have happened to deep vein thrombosis.
Speaker 3 (01:55:21):
In the past i'll share.

In Twenty sixteen brandon ingram was found to have a

the deep Venice Thrombosis in brandon ingram's case was alleviated by.
Thoracic outlet surgery, as a. Result he recovered Ingram Made

he plays where you're banged around a lot, in the
shoulders That doesn't help anderson veragile missed the second half
of the. Twenty thirteen season we end a blood clot developed.

After a surgery he was Put on blood dinner's return.
The following season and this is actually what They're DOING.
To victor webgna I'm. On blood dinners they're hoping for.

blood clots that cost him the entire twenty twenty three to.
Twenty four season back trying. To recover now and Let's Not.

Around the world and sometimes the.
Speaker 2 (02:00:33):
Behavior as well they're just kind of silly and over the,
top and innocuous, not, very smart stupid and oftentimes they're.
Far more serious many times they run a file of
the law could even land. You in jail but anyway,

Call customer service but when, you do it you harass
people and be little people and swear at people and
argue with the person who answers the call and imagine
you were the type of fool that lobbed those calls to.
The police department can't make, this. Stuff, off folks yes

we Bring.
Speaker 9 (02:01:34):
You.
Speaker 2 (02:01:34):
To, Florida, st petersburg florida and we Introduce You, to
carlo jefferson a fifty year old individual who has made
a living out of making harassing phone calls to the,
police department because according to the cops who, have charged
her say the defendant admitted she just loves. Playing the
(02:01:58):
games during a, recent Criminal Complaint The Panelas county Sheriff's
office in florida said that during a twenty four hour,
Period One month ms carla called the police department emergency
communications center five hundred. And twelve times five hundred. And
(02:02:18):
twelve times these are, all log calls and the investigators are, going,
to say, quote, she harasses belittle swears that argues with
police employees who, answer the calls and the content of these, calls,
are vulgar threatening and have seen contain extreme expletives and
belittling remarks to. The communications staff, On some occasions jefferson
(02:02:41):
actually demands that the officers Come To her saint petersburg residence,
and arrest her so. They've tried that when, The cops
arrive jefferson retreats, to her home refuses to, answer the door,
locks the door and then the pass looks, through the
middle looks, through the window and gives the officers the
middle thing and screams at the top. Of her lungs
(02:03:02):
in an Effort to get jefferson to cease, calling the
police they sent a certified letter informing her that further
abuse of the non emergency line would result in. Criminal
chargers charges that didn't stop her. From doing, it in
fact she was doing it now from. Two, separate numbers
finally she was arrested recently on a pair. Of misdemeanor
(02:03:23):
counts she was, released from custody But not before the
record will show That investigators say jefferson has made over
eleven thousand harassing calls to, the police department which accounts
for proximately ten percent of the total call Volume To
The Saint petersburg police department.
Speaker 3 (02:03:45):
Non emergency number oh, By the.
Speaker 2 (02:03:47):
Way jefferson's got a, body of work multiple family and,
misdemeanor battery convictions and even spend six years. In state
Prison Carla, From, saint petersburg florida what kind of? Brand
new fool are? You?
Speaker 3 (02:04:02):

Speaker 20 (02:04:03):

peace treaty I have the. Louisiana drug launchpad so two
men were busted using a really powerful cannon to shoot
meth over a Prison. Wall In Louisiana Jose Jose francisco
(02:04:24):
herrera muonios at Age Eighteen And, angel gonzalez, guitaras age
nineteen were both arrested for attempting to smuggle meth and
tobacco into a prison by using a cannon to launch
the items. Over the wall the meth was about like
eighty nine thousand dollars worth and one hundred and twelve
(02:04:46):
thousand dollars. Worth of tobacco the men Were originally from
colorado and they were attempting to smuggle the CONTRABAND into.
The us, PANTURE eh oh i. Can't say that what's
the word, in the jail? The, fancy word? Yes thank
you a high security federal prison, for male inmates located
approximately fifteen Miles north of Alexandria. In central louisiana they
(02:05:10):
were each arrested in charged with one count each of
attempting to introduce contraband, into an institution and another account attempting.
To distribute, methaphetamine the plan according to, the news release
their plan was to use the cannon to launch the
items over, into the prison and, it was shooting shooting
the items over three hundred and fifty feet. Into the,
(02:05:33):
air so yeah thanks to a, very observant deputy he
was able to stop it before they actually got the drugs.
Into the prison kind of reminds Me Of like princess briane.
A little bit you know those high kind, of ceiling,
walls you know those big. Like stone WALLS.
Speaker 11 (02:05:49):
That's what i was.
Speaker 20 (02:05:50):

to they think apparently in this article that they were
trying to reach the drugs were supposed To Reach This Kalead,
ali aldo zowari who is serving a life sentence for a.
Foiled bomb plot so they kind of think that they
(02:06:10):
were working together and this guy actually he Was Targeting FORMER. President.
George w bush and so actually also, at this Prison
Convicted murderer richard lee, McNair has escaped had to escape
from this prison. Three different times so that and then
so he, actually got moved but just. A crazy story

isaiah bond that should. Hit the Road Texas receiver isaiah
Bond vowed on friday that he would break The All
time scouting combine record in the. Forty yard dash he
(02:14:09):
did not now lett You forget his Texas teammate Now Chiefs.
Player xavier worthy he set the record last year in the,
forty yard dash ran a four point.
Speaker 3 (02:14:21):
Two to one no one broke the.
Speaker 2 (02:14:23):
Record, this year actually the fastest time this year was
achieved by a Cornerback out Of Kentucky. Named maxwell harriston
he ran a four. Point two eight, and you know
if you want to keep track, Of, This stuff okay
xavier worthies four point two to, one forty time which was,
that last year is the. ALL time record i don't
(02:14:44):
know if you may or may. Not be broken but
when you look at some of, These, other records okay
fifteen years ago A Guy. Named stephen panea he benched
two twenty five. Forty nine times tell ME about. His
Nfl career chris connley had a forty five inch vertical
elite and back. In twenty fifteen is he on the
short list of people? You Talk About maybe byron jones
(02:15:06):
he had a twelve foot three inch jump in the
standing broad jump.
Speaker 3 (02:15:10):
Ten Years Ago or jeff. Mayle's three cone.
Speaker 2 (02:15:13):
You get it you. Get the, picture the combine as
My Dear friend brian blessing used to call the, rest
His Soul, the underwear olympics is a charade for more
and more data. To be gathered but the truth of
the matter, is there is, in my view really no
(02:15:33):
correlation between who.
Speaker 3 (02:15:34):
Does well the combine and who goes on to have.
Speaker 2 (02:15:37):
A Great, career fret smoot a defensive back who played
Nine seasons With minnesota and washington.
Speaker 3 (02:15:43):
Bench two hundred and twenty.
Speaker 2 (02:15:44):
Five pounds once that didn't stop him from me in
the forty fifth, player picked overall which leads me.
Speaker 3 (02:15:50):
To my story this story is a beauty and.
Speaker 2 (02:15:52):
There are plenty of people out there that are going to,
know this name especially the Good.
Speaker 3 (02:15:56):
Folks in philadelphia His.
Speaker 2 (02:15:58):
Name, is mike mamula and thirty years, Ago This month
mike Mamulla turned the combine. On his head he was
a he was a big time defensive lineman and he
was kind of the peak at, his you, know His
abilities and momulla had the wherewithal to not only, hire
(02:16:21):
a trainer but he was one of the very first
players to specifically Train for the combine for a, good
two years and he dominated. Virtually every drill he had
a thirty eight and a half inch vertical leap bench
two twenty five, twenty six times had a oneerlick scorer,
(02:16:41):
of forty nine which still ranks second best In history,
behind pat mcinally and for, a defensive lineman those things are.
Off the charts we haven't even gotten to the. Forty yard,
DASH oh yeah i forgot. To Tell you isaiah bond
ran a four point, four to one not even close.
To the record he asked to. Run it again he
ran a four point four flat shaved one.
Speaker 3 (02:17:02):
Hundredth of the.
Speaker 2 (02:17:02):
Second Office, time mike mamula, a defensive lineman ran a.
Speaker 3 (02:17:07):
Four to five are? You kidding me with?
Speaker 2 (02:17:10):
All those numbers this guy was going to be the
greatest football player in the history. Of all time he
went there and just completely put forth. This mythical performance
he became a HOUSEHOLD name. In nfl circles it was
kind of a watershed moment in draft boards and, player
evaluation that depending on, who you ask is the poster
(02:17:34):
child for the perfect performance and a testament perhaps the
importance of preparation.
Speaker 3 (02:17:43):
On wanting to do well.
Speaker 2 (02:17:45):
At the combine should you, elect to go even though
a lot of people turn it down or it became
a cautionary tale to teams to be wary of workout
warriors who do extremely well in these measurables but not
so MUCH. In the nfl and, By the way mamula
(02:18:08):
wasn't the, first combine superstar but he's by far. The
most celebrated he's by far the most famous because after
coming out, Of The combine mike mamula just simply didn't
come close to living up the enormous expectations that his workout.
Indicated he might and the one thing he did do
(02:18:31):
is you remember the old ads, in the Nineties.
Speaker 3 (02:18:34):
Be like Mike That.
Speaker 2 (02:18:35):
Was mike jordan other players wanted To be like. Mike
as well because he Started Out, At boston college mamula
worked with a strength coach by The Name, of jerry
paulmieri who had an incredibly great plan to. Off season
workouts he just simply. Mimicked the combine he'd, have, your
run sprints, bench press perfect the.
Speaker 3 (02:18:57):
Four Cone Drill.
Speaker 2 (02:18:58):
And mike Mamula and to mamoula's credit is if you
talk to people that, worked with him he was big
and fast and tough, and all that but he was
smart and he had a great work ethic and those
allegedly were, his best qualities which are very good.
Speaker 3 (02:19:17):
Qualities to have.
Speaker 2 (02:19:20):
And, because of that he was willing to do the
heavy lifting, as it were and do what it took
to thrive. In the combine the guy was like the
perfect specimen, to you know participate In. A Combine now
during mamoula's Senior Season, at boston college they were coached
(02:19:41):
by a player a coach who spent a lot of TIME,
In The. Nfl Dan, HENNING nan henning I think the
atlanta as, a head coach, AND you know i know
he Was. An assistant detroit he HAS plenty, of nfl
experience But ninety five Henning Was. A boston college he's
head Coach and on fridays he'd run the team through
a two minute. Drill with pads it was kind, of
(02:20:01):
A walkthrough but mamola couldn't. Operate that way he only,
had one. Speed full speed and his coaches loved him
because They would push mamola endlessly and, he would.
Speaker 3 (02:20:12):
Say, bring IT on can?
Speaker 2 (02:20:14):
I have Another they'd, watch troman think, oh my god
this guy is just gonna. Be something else so the
truth of the matter is he caught the eye THE
the the i forget the name.
Speaker 3 (02:20:30):
Of his agent his, first name was his last.
Speaker 2 (02:20:32):
Name Is blank but mamola had an agent that reached
out to him, BECAUSE he says i got to represent
this guy because look, what he's done and look at the,
attention he's getting and this this is Just gonna be
he's gonna just simply, be a, uh you know the
(02:20:53):
future of what the. Combine should be that agent led,
To His, agent mike boyle who was a Strength Coach,
at boston university and he was also working on all these. New, training,
Regiments okay well blank came up with a novel concept
of working with the trainer to specifically train his clients
for combine, workouts every year which he believed would give
(02:21:15):
his guys a edge in. A, competitive space now, on
those days the combine was nothing like it is not,
was an Afterthought and mel kiper said top athletes were
actually kind of reluctant to do so much in an
environment where they, didn't have control and agents usually said
save your best work, for pro days and that was
The same. For blank's clients it was mainly lower tier
(02:21:38):
players working on their way trying to get their way.
Onto Draft, boards but mamoula because of what, he had
done was already now. This known commodity this guy is
just on the he is on the. Edge of stardom
all he's got to do. Is Show, up john wooten
Who Was the philadelphia Eagles Director of kyle scotting, at
the time simply. Said three things he, blew it up
(02:22:00):
completely blew. Up the combine blank remembers calling into his
office from a Pay phone in indianapolis at the airport
right after the combine ended and his answering. Machine was
full he was getting calls from teams. Right and left
everybody wanted To Talk. About mike, mamulla interestingly enough The
(02:22:22):
first call blank returned was to, Legendary you Know boston
reporter will McDonough who'd already been on THE phone. With
nfl executives they all Were Drooling over. Mike mamula's performance
McDonough went On, to tell, Blank he said i've already
talked to half a DOZEN people any nfl who said
that was the greatest.
Speaker 3 (02:22:42):
Combine Performance ever.
Speaker 2 (02:22:45):
And blank. Was all excited after, the phone call He
Called up mike mamulla, AND he says i got good.
News for you you made yourself a. Lot of money now,
this is, still you know. BEFORE the draft a, Few
Months later peter king A Profile of Mike Mamula and
sports illustrated that started to publicize and tout. His combine
(02:23:06):
preparation suddenly everybody wanted to. Mimic the plan there was,
No secret anymore blank got more business AS. An Agent
Img the meg agency started, offering similar programs and within
three years more than a dozen combine preparation companies. Had sprung,
up these days there are probably one, hundred different options
(02:23:26):
but they turned it into a. Complete cottage industry now
What's Interesting, is agent blank this Just At the super bowl,
a month ago Bumped Into The atlanta falcons rich McKay
and they were both reminiscing about. Nineteen ninety five in,
nineteen ninety five here's where the story really gets, interesting
to me if. It's not already rich McKay in nineteen
(02:23:50):
ninety five was THE first year Gm Of The. Tampa
bay buccaneers it so happened on The day of mike
mcmula's Pro Day. At Boston college, the bucks says we
got to get to. Know this guy let's take him.
Out to breakfast we might want to set Our Sights.
On mike mamula here's where it gets a little. Bit,
More complicated okay rich McKay Really, liked mike mamula but
(02:24:15):
they Were Also. On hugh Douglas and as mamula's impressive
pro day became more, and more publicized it Became clear
that philadelphia was the Real player for mamula, services really
Well the guy tampa Really Wanted, was derek brooks so
the game plan was all along to trade down. From,
number Seven meanwhile the eagles seemed eager. To trade up
(02:24:39):
here's the name you might not have heard, in A While.
Because mike mamula his pro day solidified the Choice For
the philadelphia eagles who were Eager To. Draft mike mamula
but believe, it or not there was another superstar WHO was,
an nfl superstar and you're gonna, hear this name and,
(02:25:02):
by the way happens To Be on dion sanders' staff.
This last year another big name in the mix That
Year was warren sap Coming. OUT of miami i don't
think anybody Would Argue that warren sap was the most
talented player, in the draft but he had some baggage
and reports on Draft day allegedly sap had failed multiple
(02:25:23):
drug tests and that kind of soured, several Front. Offices
including philadelphia's all, of a sudden after doing, The Due
diligence mike mamula was now far and away the top
Defensive lineman, on philadelphia's board it was.
Speaker 3 (02:25:40):
A Done deal the eagles Were Gonna, draft Mike Mamula.
Speaker 4 (02:25:45):
Not.
Speaker 2 (02:25:45):
Warren sap now the day was tentatively in place a
few days, before the Draft and the eagles dealt their
first rounder, number twelve overall plus two second Round picks
to tampa in exchange for the Chance. To take, Mamula
Their thought warren sapp was falling or, at number seven
thinking if we, take him there We're Not. Getting derek
(02:26:06):
brooks we don't have the ammunition. To, Get In instead
warren sap tumbled all the way, to Number Twelve where
tampa bay, snapped him up the first ever selection Approved
by the glazer family as they were taking. Over as
owners rich McKay then spun the second rounder his gain,
from the trade got back into the first Round And got.
(02:26:27):
Derek Brooks also so Rich McKay got Derek Brooks. And
warren Sap Philadelphia, got mike mamula and it was almost fitting,
oddly enough That Of course paul tagliabul. Was commissioner then,
(02:26:47):
and believe me THE draft on tv was not even
anywhere near of a pimpolow compared to what it is
today with the production and the pomp and circumstance and
the hype and THE made for tv events of people.
Crowding the Streets So when mike, mamula, Was Drafted fittingly
paul tagliabu couldn't even pronounce. His, Name Properly meanwhile Warren
(02:27:11):
Sap and derek brooks went on to Combine For. Eighteen
pro bowls both Landed In The pro Football.
Speaker 3 (02:27:20):
Hall, OF fame.
Speaker 2 (02:27:22):
Now i guarantee him getting going to get some Tweet
to the philadelphia, if you're listening you Know All, about
mike mamula and he's not, a bad guy and he really.
Wasn't a bust he just didn't come anywhere near nowhere
near the kind of Production In The national football league
that the combine workouts suggested. He, would be fact Do
(02:27:48):
you imagine philadelphia in theory might Have Had either derek
brooks and or well, maybe Not Both but warren sapp
and They Passed. On mike mamula what's interesting is, five
years later, thirty years later know it, all's you know
people Look back like i'm, doing right, now you know
and lamented a career that never lived up to The
(02:28:10):
Hype and mike mamula being the professional.
Speaker 3 (02:28:13):
He always was he's.
Speaker 2 (02:28:15):
Cool with, it, he, Says hey quote i'm remembered you're
still talking about me. Thirty years later it, could Be
worst and mamoula ACTUALLY still lives I understand In, King,
of prushvill pennsylvania which is about Thirty.
Speaker 3 (02:28:29):
Minutes in philly he runs an.
Speaker 2 (02:28:30):
Employee screening company he had a son THAT had played
i think he Played. FOOTBALL at montana i don't know
if he ever got a SHOT. In the, Nfl but
look mamola doesn't argue with anybody's CRITIQUE of, his nfl career.
Or they. Don't he doesn't it's not bothering, him that,
(02:28:52):
people you know sort of relegate his reputation as. A
cautionary tale, but the folks the folks who saw, the story,
unfold you know they're eager to todk his Achievements, at
the combine but they're not really eager to. Brag about
him but they're not going to call. Him a bust
(02:29:13):
Even his, agent, BLANK said quote i won't use. The
word bust that's one of those byproducts because he didn't
Go To ten pro bowls or end Up in The,
hall of fame or he Was just. A combine freak
i don't. Think that's fair he was a pretty. Good
football player mike had six, or eight sacks and today
that catched tim, in a year but, measured against publicity it. Didn't,
work Out Again, no Super bowls No. Hall, of fame
(02:29:33):
okay teams were Simply Awestruck by. Mike mula's athleticism they
didn't really know what to. Do with them, and, you
know look there were lots of legendary, coaches That Remember.
Including andy, reid you know they asked if he could
put on, twenty five pounds, And They, asked andy reid
why would you want the guy? To bulk up he
(02:29:54):
didn't need to run. Through those guys he could. Run
around him he was about two sixty coming Out Of,
ball boston college so he wasn't. A run stuffer but,
in today's game he'd be lining up, in the end
but probably with his hand.
Speaker 3 (02:30:05):
In, the ground now, One, final thought Wooten.
Speaker 2 (02:30:10):
Who was philly's you? Know guy made he's compared him
to A Slightly. Smaller Nick bosa but posta commands.
Speaker 3 (02:30:17):
A double team on. Every passing down mamoula never got.
Speaker 2 (02:30:21):
To, that point, OKAY in fairness i want to make
this guy to sound out like you know he was
a bus.
Speaker 3 (02:30:27):
Because he wasn't his numbers.
Speaker 2 (02:30:29):
Were not horrible he played six years and he had
thirty one sacks, in his career but his career. Was
cut short he did retire after the, two thousand season
Three Years before Warren Sat and derek brooks Would Win
a Super. Bowl in tampa he'd also had a, share
of concussions and he says he's happy with wherever his life.
(02:30:50):
Has taken him in terms of the way People Look
at mike MAMULA, in the, nfl, he said quote everybody's.
GOT their opinion i don't. CARE either way I know
what I did and i'm still feeling it. To this
day no problem with.
Speaker 5 (02:31:02):
What.
Speaker 2 (02:31:02):
Everybody thinks okay the thing that's a fact Is The.
Legend mike mamula the name has fought. Lasted his career
mamula's combine performance will PROBABLY be exhibit A for future
gms and anybody who's in the combine looking at measuring
performances for the next. Twenty, Five years okay and you
(02:31:24):
know what's funny Is Next year mike mamula's name will,
come up again and year after year it will. Come up,
again he's gracious even though he gets mentioned in the
Same Breath with Tony Mandrich and Vernon Goldston And, darius
hayward bay EVEN though his nfl production was quite a
bit better than. All those guys but no one could
(02:31:46):
touch no one could touch his combine performance and the truth.
Of the matters.
Speaker 3 (02:31:52):
IN the end nfl executives have vowed to never make
a mistake. Like That again.
Speaker 2 (02:31:57):
Mel kiper has said that people. Learn from, that, HE
says no i don't. THINK they have i can give
you plenty Of Examples from workout warriors for fifteen years,
up to today but it's. The same, thing but there
in fact Is Only one mike mamula and that is

All right this is a sensitive subject for a, Lot
of Folks but, On January eighth, peter rose's family led By,
his daughter fawn filed a petition to have the all
time hit leader posthumously removed from, baseball's ineligible list which
means that if they pull them from the, an eligible,
(02:34:00):
list perhaps posthumously he's eligible to be voted On for The.
Speaker 3 (02:34:06):
Hall, of fame now there, was.
Speaker 2 (02:34:08):
A Lawyer a los angeles Based Lawyer. Named jeffrey Lenkoff
He represented pete rose prior.
Speaker 3 (02:34:15):
To his death rose passed at.
Speaker 2 (02:34:16):
Eighty three years Old, in late september and he filed
that reinstatement position after He and again, pete's Oldest, daughter
fun rose The, daughter of Pete Met with rob Manfred
And A major league baseball spokesman Back in the Commissioner's office.
Speaker 3 (02:34:32):
On, December seventeenth now.
Speaker 2 (02:34:34):
Lenkoff went, on to say, quote, the commissioners respectful gracious
actively participated in productive Discussions regarding removing rose from.
Speaker 3 (02:34:44):
The ineligible list.
Speaker 2 (02:34:46):
Lenkov Said he's seeking rosell's removal from the ban list
so they could at least seek Induction Into The national Baseball,
hall of fame which of course Had long been peach's
desire and being sought posthumously.
Speaker 3 (02:35:02):
By His Family major league.
Speaker 2 (02:35:04):
Baseball sources did acknowledge the Commissioner met, with Roses family and.
Speaker 3 (02:35:11):
Manfred is allegedly now. Reviewing the petition what's. Taken to
Commission we're.
Speaker 2 (02:35:16):
Inda March now in, December twenty Fifteen manfred rejected rose's
restatement after He. Met WITH pete And i know pete
didn't do himself any favors. During that meeting but after
all these years and with gambling legal and if you can,
SEPARATE the two i know people are highly, charged about
this and maybe we bring this up again in Another future.
(02:35:37):
Midnight HOUR call but i got to a point, after
thirty years which, is TWENTY nineteen and I. MET with
pete i don't think it served any fruitful purpose Anymore
to keep pete at least. Off the ballot and then
you let, the media decide you let. The VOTERS decide
(02:35:58):
and i still think it's going to be an uphill
battle because there are a lot of voters who just
they're just not. GONNA do, IT i mean i DON'T
know that i have great Hope That candidly rob manfred
is is gonna. MOVE on this i.
Speaker 3 (02:36:12):
COULD be wrong i want to.
Speaker 2 (02:36:13):
Be proven wrong i've just always believed there there was
a deaf betfit death bet wish From a Bar Giamatti
to Fae Vincent to bud seelig Handed Down to rob
Manfred because, of pete's obstinacy but so much, time Is,
passing aw right you can make a case it's it's
now time to turn The Page on pete rose's legacy
(02:36:35):
in baseball And for The hall of fame. To, honor
them okay whether you're a fan Or Not, OF pete
Rose i think america is a nation of second chances.
And Second opportunities and pete will not have even lived,
to see.
Speaker 8 (02:36:52):
This but now.
Speaker 2 (02:36:52):
His family can he often, joked about that or he
Would maybe not what? Really wasn't, joking, he goes yeah
they'll probably Do it, efter, i'm dead purposely but that'd be,
better than. Nothing all right. By the way in a
statement just, The Other, day john Dowd who investigated rose
for gambling on baseball back in, nineteen eighty nine Noted
(02:37:12):
That major league baseball is not in the park in
business in nor does it controlled Admission to The.
Speaker 3 (02:37:17):
Hall of fame.
Speaker 2 (02:37:19):
That Part's True, BUT rob, manfred i BELIEVE from WHAT i, think,
i know okay has the ability and the Purview. To reinstate,
Rose you know manfred has reviewed baseball has a banned
list of punishing players.
Speaker 3 (02:37:39):
During their lifetime but.
Speaker 2 (02:37:40):
Upon their death there have Been multiple players i'm not
going to list them all right now that had been
Voted to The hall of fame or Elected to The hall.
Speaker 3 (02:37:48):
Of fame.
Speaker 2 (02:37:49):
Posthumously all right and You know When manfred denied rose's
petition for reinstatement, ten years, ago, he said Quote Under the,
major league constitution my only concern has to be for
the detection of play on the field through Appropriate Enforcement of.
Major league rules he's not part of my authority responsibility to. Make, Any,
determination okay, Look since then passo. Has been overturned, Gambling
(02:38:12):
is legal Baseball Is partnering peter rose for thirty five
years and until his death paid, a severe price, a
severe price and perhaps it. Was, Well deserved, now lankov
said he's Hopeful manful reinstate rose that would allow, the,
you know legally now the lifetime ban, Is over right?
Speaker 3 (02:38:33):
Is that fair we're going to is?
Speaker 2 (02:38:35):
This wordplay Here so The hall of fame says if
you're on, the ineligible list you. Can't be considered but
if you're taking, off, their list yes there Is no guarantee.
Rose gets in it's a unique situation because he's never
even Been on A hall, Of fame ballot but if,
HE gets in i think there'll be a collective sigh
relief among The, masses because, pete you know had a.
Long prison sentence for as long as. You can have
(02:38:57):
that'll do It For The. Bernie frale show See an
Next septaday keeping lockdead Next To great Andy Furman On.
Speaker 3 (02:39:02):
