Day one of the NCAA tournament is over. It's way
past one am on the East Coast, and I'm recording

with Rob G. It's a special one for Rob G folks,
big big news on the podcast front. Rob G obviously
just had a young baby. Congrats to that to him
and his wife. They now are a foursome with two
little kids. And now he's getting paternity leave and we're
not gonna have Rob G for six weeks. Little Bro's

not gonna be back until the NBA playoffs. Oh my gosh.
So you know Rob G and I are gonna chop
it up.

I want to do a lot of NCAA tournament, but
I do want him to fire off some NBA takes
that we can bring back in six weeks and throw
in his face and be like, damn, dude, you called it.
You know, like how we've been riding the Austin Reeves train.
I mean goodness, gracious. Austin reefs sits out. Lakers get
blasted by thirty. I mean they also sat out Luca,
but you know whatever, Austin reason is out, so we'll
do that. And NCAA tournament. It's weird because first day

of the tournament there were just not a lot of upsets.
I mean, you look, it was chalk City blowout city,
with the exception of mcnee's State taking down Clemson. Have
to shout out Franfracchilla. I clipped it off and put
it on Instagram and Twitter. Fran Fricilla said, McNee State,
watch out. They they can hang with clems that and
take him down. They led and nearly blew it, and

that was really the only upset. And I confess rob
G of course, has got very excited to brag about
his brackets, and I basically I haven't even looked at
the brackets. He told me in the Fox Sports Radio one.
He's like, I'm so happy I'm ahead of you. I
was like, oh, how am I doing. He's like, I
think you're in the It's like I didn't even know that.
I don't check brackets until Friday night, you know. First round.
My daughter legit text from school. Dad. Oh my goodness,

Clemson lost. I had them going into the sweet sixteen,
and I'm just like, ah, kids are the best. Yeah,
I'm looking around. Yeah I had money. Many people had
Clemson doing things. But as you guys know, we had
McNee State in the Calcutta So we're fired up. And
this is where it gets crazy. I don't know if
you guys have looked at lines for Saturday's games yet.

Mcnee's State is I believe a is there one point?
Speaker 3 (02:37):
No, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
There's six point underdogs against Perdue. And I didn't think
Purdue looked great. Mcnee's State was just they're not gonna
sneak up on Purdue. Purdue did not look amazing in
their open or. They got the win and cover, but
they didn't like blow them out. It wasn't like soup
the nuts, just an ass kicking. So I think Mindee
State is live for a possible upset in round two
on Saturday. Since the game were not amazing. My guys, Oh,

the Tritons UCSD awesome comeback, best player fouls out of
like nine minutes left. They got a terrible whistle. But
I'm not gonna complain if you got three, you got
the cover. If you got two and a half, you
did not, which kind of sucks. Oh you got the push.
I'm sorry to push at three because Michigan's kid made
two free throws with like got ten seconds left. That
was a good game. Texas Tech got a scare. But

here are here. Well we'll go through the well. Lets
you do Friday, lineup really quickly Friday and I'm still
making plays now. These eight nine games felt like toss ups, right,
Louisville Creighton toss up and no, Creighton made every shot.
So now we get some decent games. I'm gonna go
ahead and guess that this New Mexico Marquette game, it
seems like there's shirt money coming in on New Mexico.

Keep an eye on New Mexico possibly winning out right.
Marquette remember lost to Michigan State recently in the I
think a couple of years ago in the tournament, Shaka
Smarts had his first round issues. I like New Mexico
money line as an upset there. I do like Saint
Mary's against Vanderbilt. By the way, the SEC did not
look totally dominant. Could have been reading their own clippings.
I like Saint Mary's to take down Vandy. I do

like North Carolina against Mississippi. We talked about that one.
I like Xavier against Illinois. I think if you're looking
for upsets among the high seeds, keep an eye on Kentucky.
They could be in some trouble. I don't find anybody
talking about Liberty, so naturally, I'm gonna say I don't
know much about Liberty. Keep an eye as well as
Akron possibly throwing a scare in Grand Canyon. Who knows,

we'll see, but listen, it's not the worst thing in
the world. Guys. If we don't get upsets, that means
we get a good teams playing against each other and
real quick before Rob does a victory lap for being
top five or whatever in the Fox Sports radio pool.
After sixteen games, here are the lines for Saturday. So
Perdue is looks like Purdue McNeice is the early game. Ooh, spicy,

Purdue six point favorites. I would take a look at
me these state There are the games in order here,
damn it? Or is per I can't tell if Purdues
the last game? Any no, no, Perdue the first game.
And let's see here we got Auburn is a nine
point favorite against Creighton. I don't think Crayton's gonna stay

as hot as they were in the opener, but if
they do, Auburt, it'll be in trouble. Albert did not
look sharp. Tennessee four and a half point favorites against UCLA.
Houston Gonzaga is a great game. Gonzaga looked unbelievable. They
let Georgia twenty seven to three. I like Houston in
that one, b YU getting one against Wisconsin. I'm on
BYU in that one. A and M minus two against Michigan.

Nothing on that one one, two, three, four or five six.
And then I guess I don't see the other lines
for the other two games. So Texas Tech will be
let me hit the old refresh button. Yeah, nothing on
Texas Tech yet. But yeah, so that's the lineup. So
rob g I know you're excited. You're probably celebrating with
a bunch of booze. You're going on six I can't.

I don't know what I would do for six weeks.
And interestingly, when when you know my kids were born
over a decade, slightly over a decade ago, I didn't
get paternally because I was working at the website and
it was like, I can still blog occasionally. What are
you gonna do for six weeks?

My man? That is the question that everybody seems to
be asking me, because even I don't know. Now, obviously,
you know, you got to do the daddy dudies. You
got to take care of the baby and hopefully that
she develops the way you want her to. That's number one.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Yeah, but they're sleeping a lot.

Yeah, that's sort of. But what I've found that I've
been on the internet's about a lot about this. There
are a lot more things you can do than you
would expect. Like one of them is I like to golf.
You know, we've talked about this. No you can. I'm
not saying I will, but I'm not saying I won't. Either,
put the kid behind you on the golf cart, you know,
in that little basket, put some headphones on so she

doesn't really freak out. I can get nine holes in
with the baby way, why not?

Why not maybe the driving range? Dude, you can't have
a baby crying on a golf course.

That's why you get didn't fall asleep, That's why the
whiz of the golf cart or fall asleep. No, I
don't know. I don't know what I'm gonna do.

I tell you what, Like you're gonna drive your wife crazy?

Probably, Probably that's a good thing you could hit the
Jim Hart. Yeah, I can like get on my healthcare
because I can actually cook food every day. I have
to worry about eating out or rushing from.

Are you still doing that health contest with the guys

I mean technically we are, but really like everyone's kind
of falling off, except for Rob Parker. Like Rob Parker
for all of his faults, and he'll tell you this too,
And when he wants to lock in on something, few
people can lock in better than him. Now, the diet
that he's on is basically the act is like no
carbs whatsoever. And the food he's eating is not what

I would consider healthy, like getting you know, cheese slices
and a piece of ham with mayo just on it
is not like a healthy snack. But because the fuck
is doing that, Rob Parker? But because there's no carbs,
you know, wait's gonna fly off you going back to

this this tournament situation. I'm not gonna gloat that I'm
beating you. Because you know, to be going on, everyone's
beating you at this point. J Mac and I think
that this is what makes March Madness, especially Day one
of the tournament, easily the greatest day in sports. It's
three reasons. Number One, it's all day, so if you

live in a LA on the West Coast like we do,
from nine am to ten pm, there is basketball on.
It's not always riveting basketball, but there's basketball on. Number Two,
it's a one and done format. No matter what the sport, competition, game,
video game, whatever it is that you're doing. When it's
(08:55):
one and done, emotions are heightened. Everything seems to be better.
If every NBA Playoff game was a Game seven. I
promise you, you and I have any conversation about the
TV ratings being down, everybody would lock in to see
a game seven and every round was a game seven.
And Third, I think this is the most important thing.
(09:18):
If you look at this, you know, bracket challenge that
we're doing through Fox Sports Radio, You of the people
of the talent side that no college basketball. I can
say confidently that you and Aaron Torres are the most
knowledgeable people that we have when it comes to college
(09:40):
basketball and that's including Doug Golge just because you know
Doug coaches college. We had them on the show, and
I'm sure Doug's plugged in. But the reality is, when
you are a college basketball coach plus a radio show host,
it's very difficult to follow it to the extent that
you can, and Torres can, some other guys can because
you just have more time on your hands. Having said that,

Jason McIntyre only got eight out of sixteen in his
BRACKETO great, not great. Aaron Torres got eleven at a
sixteen in his bracket. You know who's leading the charge
for Fox Sports Radio?

Friend of the podcast, Steve Hartman went a perfect sixteen
for sixteen. That to me is illustrative of why people
love March badness. You have guys like you paralysis by analysis.
You know almost too much about these teams. Steve Hartman
is a casual college basketball fan. He happens to know

a little bit because his show on the weekends is
on during college basketball season. But there are other names
ahead of you. You know, Rich Davis, Steve Cavino, Carmen Vitali.
Carmen's great. I don't know how much college basketball Carmen's watching,
but Carmen is killing it in the pick him because
you can go by feeling. You can say, hey, historically
twelve beats to five, so this is gonna be the

twelve that I roll with. You know what, I've heard
of this school before, So I'm gonna make a run.
And I'm gonna say that McNeice because they dropped me
in a state. I like that they dropped the state.
So I think that it's gonna be like a burden
off their shoulders. They're gonna get to the round of sixteen.
And so anybody can enter a pool, enter a bracket,
have some kind of competition with their buddies and their coworkers,

and feel like they're invested in it. You don't have
to be a hoops mavin. And honestly, if you are
a hoops mavin, it's probably gonna work against you. Full disclosure.
I was gonna copy a bracket from J. Billis. When
I was filling out mine, I was like, Hey, I
don't know enough college ball. Let me get let me
see what Billis is doing. J Billis knows ball. Ja
Billis also picked the highest rated team. I think through
(11:48):
the first three rounds. He just said, whoever was the
highest rated in the bracket, that's who was gonna advance.
And I'm like, you know what, I don't know a
lot about college basketball, but I can promise you the
higher seed is not gonna win every game. And that's
kind of what it is. And I think people at
their your base level, at your core level, it's something

that everybody can relate to. It's like, hey, we're just
kind of broadly picking teams with our buddies, and I
think it's why people rejoice when it comes to March madness.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
Oh hell yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
So you know it's cool. I'm gonna I'm gonna you know,
I'm not gonna gloat, but now I'm gonna enjoy being
ahead of you by three picks through day one of
the bracket.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
I'm just gonna say that. So while you tell me
who you got today, let me grab the three brackets
I have off the printer. Let me see if they
did better than eight for sixteen.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
I'm sure they did. I'm sure they did, because you know,
when you have twenty eight brackets, that's kind of the problem.
Just looking here at my bracket here. Of course, I
got Auburn. I got Auburn going all the way to
the national championship and I'm winning the whole thing. I've
got North Carolina making a little run to the sweet sixteen.
I got Iowa State, I got Marquette, I got Michigan
State and Izzoe because you know, Izzo's always going to

be in the sweet sixteen, you know, nothing crazy. I
think the craziest thing that I have going looking at
my bracket here, if you can call it, that would
be Colorado State. And that's only because the twelve five
is such a par for the course big that that
just happened to be the one that I decided to
roll with this week.

Yeah, I can see why I did poorly. I'm seeing
that I had lit you know, I do some of
these wacky brackets, so I'm like, yeah, give me Yale, UCSD,
you know, and Louisville and that right there is a
absolute crap dumpster fire. I did have Clemson going far
in a couple, but here's one with the Bees. Yeah,
you know, I'm kind of all over the place. Oh,

here's my Fox Sports radio. When I finally printed it, yeah,
some some clunkers there.

But that's the problem is you actually know these teams
and you're not just blindly picking like the rest of us.
You're like, hell, so you know, this team is great
on the defensive glass, this team has a faster pace.
I think this is going to go this way, and
it's like that it doesn't. If that was the case,
if it was really about finding the best teams, this

tournament would not be number one sixty what is sixty
eight teams now?

Right? And number two it would it would be not
be single elimination because this inherently makes it so that
you don't find the best team. You find the team
that just happened to get hot at the right time
or had the right matchup.

Yeah, I'll say this. I thought UCSC got a horrible whistle,
and I might have said that earlier, but I just
needed to repeat myself. I'm looking at the box score.
Their best player barely could play because he ended up
fouling out battling Michigan inside. Anyways, I'm over it.

and say it. So the two best players on the
other team, we become friendly with them. We brought them

into our other league. One of them is six' seven
and you, know he's just unstoppable. Inside our guy did
a great job on, him who he had never. Faced
he'd never they'd never met, before and their big, guy

there was like a bump right and he had just

he was ready to fight against a guy on our
team Who i've known for many, years former college football

up to fight in a men's league. Game it's LIKE
i don't even know the guy AND i don't know

It's not always riveting basketball, but there's basketball on. Number Two,
it's a one and done format. No matter what the sport, competition, game,
video game, whatever it is that you're doing. When it's

one and done, emotions are heightened. Everything seems to be better.
If every NBA Playoff game was a Game seven. I
promise you, you and I have any conversation about the
TV ratings being down, everybody would lock in to see
a game seven and every round was a game seven.
And Third, I think this is the most important thing.

If you look at this, you know, bracket challenge that
we're doing through Fox Sports Radio, You of the people
of the talent side that no college basketball. I can
say confidently that you and Aaron Torres are the most
knowledgeable people that we have when it comes to college

Doug coaches college. We had them on the show, and
I'm sure Doug's plugged in. But the reality is, when
you are a college basketball coach plus a radio show host,
it's very difficult to follow it to the extent that

have some kind of competition with their buddies and their coworkers,

I was filling out mine, I was like, Hey, I

see what Billis is doing. J Billis knows ball. Ja
Billis also picked the highest rated team. I think through

highest rated in the bracket, that's who was gonna advance.
And I'm like, you know what, I don't know a
