Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Uh, let's go, stinking yess go, big boy, let's go,
let's go.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
Uh we could goo. Tonight was a pretty special program.
We got to watch the Arizona Wildcats advance to the
Sweet sixteen with you, and then the heartbreak. Yeah the
Thursday night, Thursday, Yeah, Thursday night. Right.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
We put up a good fight. We've played, did tougher
than anybody else out there, that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
I thought it was a great game. And I know
that you're a guy that needs a buzzer beater. We've
only had one of them in this tournament so well,
one and a half. I guess you could say in
this tournament so far and that, and that's fine. But
I think if you just like good basketball, I thought
that was one of the best games of the Sweet sixteen. No,
it was great.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Well, we did come back. I think we closed it
within five or seven.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
I don't. Yeah, it's great.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
That was not so great. So well, actually, well.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
It was your team. It was your team losing. I
mean it did lead to some significant movement in the
Fox Sports Radio Bracket Challenge, but we'll get to that
in moments. We're company Live tonight from the ti rack

Furman is back. He'll join us an hour number two.
We'll get your tweets. They're already rolling in at Stinking
Genius one. I'm at Plank Show. Everybody can check in
at Fox Sports Radio on Twitter. We got NFL notes,
We've got some college football rumbling my tech.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
We grand out the window for my bet that's finally done.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Your ten grands out the window. The NBA is I
don't know what the NBA is doing right now, and
apparently we're changing the game in Major League Baseball. But
before we get any of that, did you enjoy being
in person for the game like you wasted our whole
show last Sunday night saying you were gonna do.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
I looked up tickets. Tickets had dropped the seventy five dollars.
I wanted you to know that to get it to
get into the arena. It was seventy five dollars, So
I said you know what, I had to work on Friday, right, Yeah, Friday,
I had the work, so I couldn't go down obviously
to the game and come back and work on Friday.
So I said, once we beat Duke, I'll go down.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Stop stop stop. You absolutely could have gone. We talked
about this last Sunday night. We not Ian, did we
not marry? Yeah, but did not work until ten o'clock
night on Friday.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Right, But the game started at like ten finishes in
twelve thirty. You go to bed at like two o'clock
in the morning. You got to get up early, and
I got to drive five and a half hours back
to Vermont.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
So I'm like, again, you do not go on the
air until ten pm.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Right, Right?
Speaker 2 (02:40):
So I decided I'll wait till we win against Duke,
then I'll go down to really see the game that
puts us in the final four.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
That's you know, I would like to set. I feel
like in life there needs to be rules, right. I
feel like there has to be standards, and there has
to be no there's gonna be gray areas, but there's
a right and there is a wrong, And to me, Arnie,
I feel like it is consistently wrong. For you to
use this program to talk about the things you're gonna
do that you never do. I was I.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Wanted to, I really did. I was gonna go down
and just too much going on.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
I had too much happening right then.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
You know you had to fill in the next day
at ten o'clock at night, a game twenty four hours
earlier you couldn't go to.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
But you know again, it's a very important show with harmon.
I gotta make sure I was on you know, my
on my best uh, you know my best shows.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
You're telling me being lied in the arena wouldn't provided
have provided tons of content and tons.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Be aggravated driving back five and a half hours after
a loss to Duke, I would have just been sick.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
No, it's a good game. Thursday night might have been
the best night of the tournament you had. I've been great.
You had that crazy Arkansas Tech game.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
I've been bored to tears with this tournament. It's almost
since it's got to the point where I'd rather watch
baseball than the NCAA March madness this year.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
So are you saying that since you have four of
the eleven Roman numerals on the show, dedicated to this,
which is almost half the program. You don't want to
talk about it. I got five even five, so.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
No, but I mean, seriously, it is not when we're
talking about excitement excitement level. I give it a two
out of ten, maybe a one.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
You're right.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
I would love to sit here and fight with you
and tell you you're wrong. I think part of this
is because you're starting to fall down the ladder a
little bit in the bracket challenge. That's fine.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Not here A point right, jem right there? You and
I are right up there. I blew by you, three
points behind you.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
You can't make it up.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
It just like count who do you have in the final?
We have the same finals Auburn and Duke.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Uh maybe I don't know. I haven't looked at that.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Yeah, I have Auburn, one of the few that has Auburn.
So that's that's where.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Oh your hose because of a Jennai's.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Injury, I know, I saw, yeah he had, he had,
but he came back into the game though he did.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
But did you see the way he was handling his
right I understand he's a left handed dude, but did
you see the way that his right like arm was
kind of to hang in and how much he was
checking that elbow.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
You should have just amputated it right before he came Can.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
You imagine he walks out. It was a pretty cool moment.
I gotta tell you that.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Much as three he had a three take I did.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
As soon as he came back in and the lid
went off. That place only.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
A two and a half point underdog in the game.
To be honest, who was Auburn in this next game?
Auburn's a two and a half point dog.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Well, I mean, I I mean, honestly, I think it's
about as evenly matched of a game as you could have.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
I think it's because of the injuries why they made
it two and a half, or would probably would have
been right around pick them.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
You mean the injuries for the Auburn injury to Ji Brown.
I think it would have been a pick them. I
think you're I cannot believe this, this is too I
think you're right.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
I mean, listen, Florida probably should have been out of
this tournament in the sweet sixteen. If we're just being
honest with ourselves, and I'm not trying to make Aaron
Torres feel better about things, but in fairness, it seemed
like Florida kind of had Auburn's number when they played
them earlier in the season. Now, I don't want to
get two into trying to compare a game that to
(06:00):
place and let's see, when was that on February eighth
to something that could happen? What is that going to
be next Saturday night, April sixth by that point? But
I don't want to get two carryo with that. But
they did beat them by nine on Auburn so in court,
So again take take what you want. Robert did not
(06:20):
finished the year strong. I think they had lost three
of six or something. I'm not exactly sure, Chris, to
be honest with you, I don't think they finished strong.
What do you mean You think they lost three their
last four games?
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Yeah, okay, I thought it was three or six.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Yeah, because they had lost the they lost the tournament game,
and then they lost their final two regular season.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Games because I thought that tournament okay.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Yeah, No, they did three of their last four games.
They won the first game in the tournament, and uh
and then they let's see here, I'll tell you so
you know exactly what it is. They lost to Texas
a and m On March fourth, they lost Alabama. On
March eighth, they beat Ole Miss, and then they lost
to Tennessee in the quarterfinals semi finals of the SEC tournament.
So yeah, and no team there was some staff, and
(07:02):
no team that had lost three of their last four
games had ever made the final four. I think it
was either that, But now I'm starting to wonder if
I misremember that, and it was lost three of their
last four and didn't win the national championship regardless.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Regardless Flida be, he shouldn't even be that far with
what they had to overcome, you know.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Well, not just to overcome how poorly they played. I mean,
if Texas Tech knew how to hit free throws, we'd
be talking about maybe kind of a pseudo Cinderella.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
And it's not just free throws, it's missing the front
end or one on ones that's just a killer.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
There's this part of me, the one and one has
been taking so much out of the NBA game. And
I watched so much NBA basketball that I almost get
shocked whenever it's a one and one in college Basketwak,
what's he doing? Why is he get out of the lane?
Oh yeah, that's right. We have one in one.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
You know, it's so funny. I was just telling one
of the younger kids I played basketball with. I said,
you know, there was a time in the NBA where
they go when you were shooting foul shots, you had
three to make two. And he started to laugh. He
thought I was kidding. He's like, I'll stop it. I know,
I'm serious. He goes, would just stop. I go, no,
it was a rule I think up until like the eighties,
and you had three to big two.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
On the follow line.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
There, Yeah, there's so many there's so many wild things
that have changed, but the three to make two that
was not gonna lie. I I am kind of glad
that that one's gone.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Oh hell yeah, that's for sure. That's for sure.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Yeah. And by the way, you say that this has
been a snooze fest of an NCAA tournament.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Absolutely, And I can see the tweets coming in. He goes,
here we go Spaniard comparing March Madness to a can
of spam. Yeah, it was a bad one. Was absolutely
a bad one this year, just face it.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
But I mean I kind of like the Sweet sixteen games.
I mean, you could sit here and tell me that
they that it was a snooze fest in the Elite eight. Okay, Tennessee,
the moment was too big for him, right. Uh. Michigan
State was never really able to get over the hump
against Auburn, Alabama Wilton down the sh stretch. Apparently they
(09:00):
used up all their shots against b YU in the
Sweet sixteen. But Florida Texas Tech was I guess, depending
on which side you were on, was was like one
for the ages art. The Sweet sixteen games were incredible.
I think the problem is nobody really gives a damn
about the Sweet sixteen games, do they. You've got to
have good Elite eight Final four games and maybe we'll
(09:22):
have a great Final four.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Overall, what we tuned in for is the early upsets.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
We really didn't get that.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
We got the one with McNees over Clemson, but that's it.
We also tuned in for the buzzer beaters.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
We really didn't get much of that.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
All those Yeah, we had two which is like nothing,
that's just bare minimum, and some great battles with you know,
number one seeds, and so far all the number one
seeds are there, so we'll see if the final four
is going to save the tournament. But up till now,
it's been a snooze fest. No buzzer beaters, lack of
buzzer beaters, lack of upsets, and why that is as
(09:56):
highly rated, Well, nobody knows that the time there's not
going to be a buzzer beater or an upset. So
you're tuning into the watch for one grizz Okay, Well
then it's okay, I listen. I love you, Arnie.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Not everyone is tuning into a basketball game waiting for
a buzzer beater. If that were the case, they would
start watching with thirty seconds to go in the game.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Or they're doing it for their brackets. So you tell
me why people are watching McNees and Clemson with all
kinds of excitement. You tell me why all of a
sudden everybody wants to watch that kid.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Well, you're bringing up one game, and I have no
idea why the numbers were as high as they were
because I'm with you, But to pretend like, oh, the
lack of buzzer beaters, I think that's something for us,
just that are in our little sports bubble. I almost cussed.
I don't think they could give two bleeps and it's
your obsession and it's fine. And I think most people
are like, I haven't had a buzzer beat. I'm like, well,
(10:46):
you know, go back last week. How many buzzer beaters
they truly have last year? So you were complaining about
it last year.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Tell me why March madness is what it is today.
Tell me what it's been built on over the course
of years. What's made March shorton is the great event.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Because it happens during the day on Thursday and Friday,
and you can skip out of work and everyone.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Feels out of bracket. That's just two days, though, well,
and you're sitting.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Here going crazy about two days because if I didn't
have any upsets in the first round, everybody hates Cinderella
by the time he gets to sweet sixteen because you're like,
this guy sucks. They just got b by fifty. Why
am I watching this team play? So I just I
don't know why it's not as exciting as it is.
But the bottom line is the numbers have still been
through the roof.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
So I find that more not compelling, but more articles
about are more stories about all these coaches moving around
and why Oates would want to leave Alabama because they
give too much money to the football, And I'm like,
wait a minute, what's going on here is there's not
enough money for everybody to get I'm like confused, why
you ever want to leave a job like that with
(11:51):
all the success he's ated. The whole thing's crazy.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Well, I think part of it too now is well
you want to you want to nerd out on this
right now? Or do you want to move on to
pro sports? Like Shady sew College basketball gets like two
or three shows a year and I've never seen someone
more angry that we would talk about college basketball than
our buddy Shady Sean for twenty But bott, let me
(12:15):
Cliff note it real quick before we hit a couple
of our NFL things real quick. Rev Share is real now.
It's not going to kick in until next year, so
you're gonna get and out. Because I was trying to
figure this out, like why is everyone talking about the
Anisle budget and making this money when we're gonna have
Revshare and we're gonna have twenty million dollars for each
school that's gonna be split amongst teams and there's gonna
be Nile clearinghouse that's supposed to get rid of this
(12:37):
pay for play right that's we still got the year
out of it, because this thing isn't going to go
into effect until they get things settled. I think coaches
like Nate Oates are using this as some kind of
leverage because they're mad about the percentage of money that
they're getting in the REP share because you have to
split twenty million amongst all of your sports, which at
any discussion aren't. You can do it however you want.
(12:58):
You can give ninety nine percent sent to football and
one spread across all the others.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Does that mean like the best job in America right
now is the Villanova jobs might be football to get the.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Month from no, I mean, I mean that's that's a
big selling point if you if you kind of look,
that's the big selling point for the Creightons, for the Villanova's,
for the Saint John's of the world, where you might
have a football program but it's not it's not a powerhouse,
and they're gonna put all their money in basketball. And
I just I think that's why you see Buzz Williams,
(13:30):
who's the head coach at Texas A and M is
being rumored for Maryland. I think he sees the future
because he realizes, I love A and M it's a
great school. But the percentage of revshare you're gonna get
for basketball at Texas A and M Arty and be
very high, right, and you're gonna have people that are
gonna be more interested in getting those nil deals for
what football players. So I think that's gonna make it
(13:52):
a lot harder for basketball teams at football schools, especially
when we get read to pay for play. But we'll see,
you know, there's a long way to go. Florida is
a football school. They're in the Final four. Auburn's got
a good football program. Yeah, they're in the final four, right,
So maybe this is all hogwashed. But I think if
this is considered a short version, that's why you hear
(14:13):
things like Natoate's name up for different places because they
feel like they're not going to get the kind of
money that they've been getting in them for play.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Came, didn't he threaten to go to a Big ten
school where they have the same problem with football?
Speaker 4 (14:25):
They're also? Am I wrong on that?
Speaker 3 (14:27):
What's the Big ten school he was threatening to go.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
I don't know, I don't remember. It was Maryland, Okay, Maryland.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Okay, So what is you think a focus is going
to be out of Maryland If you get a guy
like Nate Oates there with their basketball heritage and tradition,
where he might be at our Alabama and I don't
know what their percentages look like, Arnie, and he's been
told by his athletic director, Well, man, you're only getting
fifteen percent, so you got to figure your payroll out
on that. He might look at a place like Maryland
(14:55):
and they might be getting twenty five percent of that.
That's a lot of money when you're talking about twenty million.
So I don't know. That's That's the why I think
behind why you're hearing a guy's name like Canato. It's
being rumored out there.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Really, Yeah, it does, now that you put it that way, yes,
it does. It makes more sense than when he was
just all mad about it. I'm like, what's this guy
mad about. He's had so much success over the last
three years. This guy should be happier than anything. So
I was a little confused about what was going on.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Well, we got a lot on college basketball to get
to tonight, and we got Todd Furman coming up to
help us out with the numbers. I guess it's been
a good with so much chalk. Is that good for
the books or not? I mean, I think it's good,
But we'll ask Todd coming up here in just a bit.
All right, Roman numerals one, three or five? All about
the NCAA tournament. But when we come back, do we
(15:44):
have controversy in Major League baseball? Arnie? Do we have
a reason to talk Major League baseball in late March?
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (15:50):
On the Arning Plank Show. I think we do, and
we'll do it next right here on Fox Sports Radio.

By the way, I'm not disagreeing with you about the tournament, Yeah,
(16:49):
I just I think the question is like, why is
it just one of those years where you get chalk
which happens every now and then.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Well, you once said you had four number one, see but.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
In the final four, But I mean you've you've only
had it six times in the modern era of the
tournament where all four of the top seeds advanced into
the sweet sixteen? Right, all right? What was it? All four?
I'm sorry, all the top four seeds advanced out of
the first round and you know you really didn't have that? No,
(17:22):
it was the sweet sixteen? Wasn't it? One, two, three, four?
In each region? Am I got that?
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Nougaus Arkansas beat Saint John's. It was the first round. First,
it was the first two days of the tournament. But
it had been done as recently as twenty seventeen. You know,
it's only like eight years ago. I don't know. I
mean everyone wants to blame Nil or the transfer of Portal.
I blamed the portal more than anything else. Portal's killing Cinderella.
That's absolutely happening. I mean, have you seen that that
(17:48):
graphic that made the rounds about where guys started at
and where they are now? As far as the this
was back, I think to the elite eighteen sixteen teams.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
I think there was like about fifteen hundred, though in
the portal might be more than that now, chrisy.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
Well, I don't mean just right now. I mean if
you look at the sweet sixteen teams where they're starting,
five actually started playing college basketball, right I'm talking about yeah, yeah, yeah.
There was only one team in the Sweet six team
who had all five of its starters that started at
its own school. And I mean were we ever thinking
(18:23):
about that whenever we were younger? I mean, look at
there's one school that I mean, Auburn has had a
guy that basically started at their school and ended up
with four starters who were elsewhere, and two of them
are three of the schools I think I barely even
heard of Texas Tech Hat two Duke HAT four Perdue
was the only team that had five Startersagy.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
Has three freshman starters on their team, which is absolutely
crazy in this time with the portal because right now
you don't even have to recruit high school kids. They're
the ones that are really going to get it rough
because you could just go to the portal and get
kids that have played two years of college or when
you're a college just bring them on your team.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
I think that that is where maybe some men majors
can make some hay where they can say, hey, you're
a freshman, come play here, and we're gonna give you
more money out of our budget than what you're gonna
get anywhere else, right, right, because and you're gonna play right,
You don't have to go to say I'm just gonna
use this as a hypothetical claude. You don't have to
(19:25):
say you're an Arizona kid, right and you're a five
star recruit. But Arizona's got, you know, three guys that
are coming in out of the portal. Well Arizona State
or out of Northern Arizona might be able to say, hey,
you play right now. You know you can come right
now and play. So I don't know, dude, I don't
think this is some sort that the portal's not new
inil is new. We've been dealing with it for five years.
(19:48):
I just feel like that suddenly we've started to have
some of the sport's biggest names step up and say, hey,
it's kind of ridiculous the timing and how things are
going right now, that's when.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Where all these kids are gonna go. What happens ones
that they can't find I'm a new home, nay place.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
It's hop We've done this before. It Come on, we
don't have to do this bit again. We've done the
same thing for five years, Arnie. What happens to the
guys that don't have a home? They don't get to
play basketball. It was their choice to get in the portal.
If they can't find a place to play, they might
not end up at a school that was as good
as where they are. Boohoo, buckeroo. Who's your choice? Or
if you got school, or if you get processed and
you get booted out, well, guess what, you can probably
(20:24):
get an opportunity to play the place like Tulsa Iona
Northern Arizona, Florida Atlantic might ded not being the best
thing for you. I mean, I'm looking at these starting fives,
and I'm looking at guys from this Sweet sixteen graphic
that at NCAA Buzzer Beaters, probably Arnie's favorite website, and
you got guys from Duquine, Georgia, Southern Belmont, Iona Campbell, Oakland,
(20:49):
North Dakota State, Ohio. You that are starters Drexel on
teams that were in the Sweet sixteen. So whenever you're like,
what's going to happen to some of the guys who
don't find a place, there's a place for them if
they can play. If they can't play, maybe they shouldn't
have been a college basketball player anyway. I mean, I
don't have a lot of sympathy for him, to be
honest with you.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Come out to the University of Vermont. We take all kinds
out of here.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
University of Vermont is literally the only one that I
don't see their logo here as a team. That's me
three of Florida Atlantic started. Remember where Floridatlantic was last year? Yeah, exactly,
Final four. Let's see one two, Well, two of their
starters in the third was on a final four team
this year. You know, one of them at Florida. I
think one of them at Tennessee. So it's is crazy.
It's crazy how that works out. But I mean, are
(21:33):
you worried about the long term viability of having good
tournament games? Is that a concern for you or No?
I look at it as a one year thing.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
No.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
I just think it's a one year thing. I don't
think that it will, you know, for the most part,
continue like this. I think we'll go back to having
the upsets. As for buzzer beaters, that has nothing to
do with TNIL or money or transfers or portal or
anything like that. So I it was just one year
that we have very few buzzer beaters. It just happened
(22:02):
that way. So there's, yeah, there's nothing you could do
about that. But as for Cinderella, I don't think it
kills Cinderella. It does hurt a little bit, though, Chris,
I think it does hurt the mid majors, sure, absolutely right.
But overall though, I think it's just this one year
where we just had a bad storm or the perfect storm,
(22:24):
however you want to call it, where we didn't have
the buzzer beaters. And we didn't have Cinderella.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
Hey, did you consider North Carolina state of Cinderella last year?
Speaker 2 (22:32):
Not really, but it was a semi you know, it
was semi, not like the big sin like a George
Mason or anything like that.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
So an eleven seed that wasn't in the tournament until
it won the ACC Tournament right that they did, isn't
a Cinderella to you because.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
It's a it's a known school. I mean, they've they're
a big name, They've they've been there.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
Listen, buddy, we're getting to the point where you're going
to know every single college basketball team. I mean we're
just getting too that. I know there's five hundred of
them played Division one basketball, but the Saint Peter's was
about the biggest surprise to me. I don't many more
of those going forward, but we shall see. Because I
saw this tweet that had just come in from I
guess this is what at Happy for Life seven, who
(23:15):
writes big Tournament fan here. I don't think I watched
any game from start to finish. Rather, especially in the
first two rounds, I tuned in it to five minutes
to go, Mark if the games were close. A total
dud for the most part. I mean, I don't think
anyone's really that different. I don't think people sit down
and watch games from start to finish on the first
two days of the NCAA tournament. I think they're flipping
around like crazy anyway.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Oh, I mean to finish that tweet, Stinking genius is
actually right about this one.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
Oh, I'm sorry. I'm not disagreeing with you though. That's
the whole point, right, I disagree with you all. I
just think you sit here and you have the same
two things that you say over and over and over.
You know what they are.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
What were the kids gonna go play if they don't?
Speaker 3 (23:54):
No, no, no, no. Buzzer beaters and Cinderella's that's all
you got about. Why the tournament's now any good this year?
I mean, it's like, dude, we haven't had great games,
just we haven't. We haven't had and a buzzer beater. Hey,
Purdue Houston had a buzzer beat against Purdue. Did you
try to watch that game?
Speaker 5 (24:11):
Right?
Speaker 3 (24:12):
That was a terrible basketball game.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
But even before the game started though, I told you
when they released the list on Sunday that I'm just
not feeling the madness.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
But they gave feel the madness heading into it because
you didn't watch college basketball. No, no, no shit.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
But I gave you a couple of reasons for that.
I said I didn't like the matchups. I didn't find
a lot of them very intriguing. I gave you grief
about the city. I heard other coaches gave you grief
about cities and the fans can't go to first round
games and stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
I don't know what it was.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
I'm just telling I.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
Felt you don't watch college basketball.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
I do. I watched a lot of the Big twelve
this year, do well.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
I'm just telling you don't watch it like you normally
did or do, and none of us do. It's just there.
I never freaking know when games are on. The Big
Ten's playing games on Sunday. Aren't he and Friday nights doing? Right? Now?
You know, give my Saturday and by one weeknight game
and we're good to go. And you can even your
serious like I didn't like the matchups? Really, what didn't
you like about the matchups? I mean, are you? Are
(25:12):
you being honest with yourself? Are you just trying to
find something to grinch? Because I look at the matchups
and nine out of ten times, that's when I finally
start to learn about, Oh, what kind of season did
Creighton have or what kind of season did I don't
know New Mexico have had you watch the Lobos this year?
Speaker 2 (25:25):
There's got to look I was right on it. So
there's got to be a reason why I was right.
I mean, heck, Cou's sitting there telling you before everything started,
before there was one game, I'm not feeling the madness,
I'm not feeling the matchups.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
I'm not feeling this.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
But you're saying all this, and they had the highest
rated first two rounds that they've ever had, so you
might not be feeling it, and you're telling everyone the
game sucked.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Well, I was right, though, I turned out to be
right about everything. A lot of people again, a lot
of people. Can you say you were right whenever they
were the highest rated games.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
I want to disagreeing with your watch, but it's acting
like nobody you watch the games you are wrong.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
But let me say this. If we watched the Super
Bowl the score was one hundred to nothing, and we
came on that day and said, boy, that was the
worst super Bowl. It sucked. It was over after two minutes. Sure,
but still people watch it though there's still got high
numbers for it.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
Though they wouldn't have the highest, aren't he.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Not the highest? But they do well?
Speaker 3 (26:19):
No, they would. If it was one hundred to nothing,
there would be nobody watching the game by the fourth
quarter except for the fans, unless they were watching to
see if they could get to one hundred and ten.
Maybe they would have had an over. That was crazy
at that point. Come on, no one is getting a
hungred one. No one is disagreeing with you that they've
been bad tournament games. But to pretend like no one's watching,
it's just wrong.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
No. No, I didn't say nobody was watching. I said
even you can't tell when you tune into the games
that they're not gonna be buzzer beaters or upset, so
it shouldn't have a factor. And how many people are watching.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
Again, they would tune out. There would be erosion as
the games roll on. Do we have to Steve Disager
comes rolling in because I'm gonna throw things to the
tire dot com studios because I don't disagree with you,
but you're like making this point where I mean, people
are they're going to turn out when games are bad.
We see this happen with every sport.
Speaker 6 (27:10):
So you've heard Arnie on the show before.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Wow, I'm not disagreeing with him, and yet he's trying
to make a point where I'm like, I don't think
you're right about this.
Speaker 6 (27:19):
By the way, you mentioned New Mexico Richard Patino left
to get the Xavier coaching job. New Mexico today hired
a new coach, Eric Olan, who just led uc San
Diego into the tournament. FYI, the New Mexico Lobos did
beat UCLA early this season in Vegas. But if you
want bad basketball, and I'm speaking as someone who watches
women's sports and is watching this tournament, some of these
(27:41):
women's tournament games are at just one big yikes. I
mean we had a Sweet sixteen with Duke against North Carolina,
I mean the two rivals in the national tournament, and
the final was forty seven to thirty eight. Duke advanced
by shooting thirty one percent from the floor. Tar Heels
were at twenty eight percent from the floor. The winning
team was five of twenty four from three point range.
(28:05):
On the men's side, we have over three hundred and
fifty Division one programs just for the record, who was
by far the best offense in Division one college basketball
this year?
Speaker 3 (28:16):
It was Alabama?
Speaker 6 (28:17):
Yeah, I was today Alabama ninety one points a game.
What did they get last night? Sixty five points against
Duke yet again, and we see this all the time
in football, including Super Bowls. Good pitching, beats, good hitting.
We hear that it's the defense usually comes on top.
I mean, how many times will be seen boys? Sean
mcvays rams, what a great offense up Belichick's defense and
(28:39):
they have three points in the fourth quarter. My goodness,
that Peyton manning Broncos off ep Seattle's great defense. That's
you know, on and on Mahomes against Tampa Bay's defense,
on and on, and a caveat about the opening day
of this year's men's tournament getting the biggest TV ratings ever.
A that's just since twenty eleven when the current format began.
(29:00):
And for the Apple tri Apps there you go, there,
you go to Seger second. They didn't used to measure
out of home viewing. Now, oh my goodness, that is
part of the ratings now. So theoretically, you know, we
had well, who was at Arkansas's first round win when
they beat Kansas. That was the highest rated first round
(29:20):
game quote ever with six point three million viewers. There's
no way realistically that got a larger TV audience than
Zion Williamson's first round game with Duke. But that was
pre twenty twenty. That was before the out of home
viewing was considered as for.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
The end, and before they started adding in every single
freaking channel that had the game.
Speaker 6 (29:40):
Yes, it didn't used to have the same game on
two to three channels at the same time and then
add them up before absolutely then the streaming. Now Duke
Arizona on Thursday got six and a half million viewers.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
Wow, that is the.
Speaker 6 (29:54):
Tournament is doing well. That was just down from last year.
That's all compared to regular TV. Those are super herb numbers.
The Alabama blowout that night at BYU that was almost
six million viewers, again down from a year ago, but
still superb according to regular TV. We do have Auburn
and Houston advancing to the men's Final four. Yes, Houston's
(30:15):
going to San Antonio the one seed. Houston Cougar's won
the Midwest Region Final, beating up Tennessee sixty nine to fifty.
The lead was twenty nine to eight late in the
first half. Number one seed in the South, Auburn eliminated
Michigan State seventy to sixty four in Atlanta. Auburn's lead
mid first half was twenty three to eight. Duke and
(30:35):
Florida each one yesterday. Yeah, so Florida against Auburn next
at SEC matchup. That'll be the first game Saturday, six
pm Eastern time. Duke matchup is the late game. And yes,
Houston is playing not at home. It's not like Purdue
getting to play at Indianapolis recently, but nonetheless, Houston stays
in state for the final four.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
I think you used to San Antonio is separated by
like three miles or something like.
Speaker 6 (30:58):
That, probably three hundred but okay, hot enough Villanova as
a new head coach. It's Kevin Willard from Maryland. Something
told me he just wasn't staying at Maryland.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (31:08):
I'm pretty good at reading between the lines things that
have gone on. When he walks out for through through
the line of fans before the game and gets booed
by some of the aufidens, Yeah, he's probably not stake
Women's Regional finals wins for South Carolina at UCLA, and
how about this from the NBA. Houston took the late
(31:28):
game one forty eight to one oh nine at Phoenix.
Atlanta won one forty five one twenty four at Milwaukee,
and Golden State one tonight one forty eight to one
oh six at San Antonio. Minnesota beat Detroit one twenty three,
one oh four to seven. Men including nas Reed, were
kicked out after a fight in the first half of
that one. By the way, in the late game, the
(31:49):
Sons Kevin Durant left after rolling at Ankle. Denny Hamlin
was the NASCAR winner at Martinsville. Novak Djokovic has been
beaten in the Miami Open tennis final by Yakub Mensic
and Unsea nineteen year old. There was a five and
a half hour rain delay at the start, so it
was an evening match tonight. In baseball, the Padres now
four and o beat the Braves again five nothing, Cardinals
(32:10):
three and oh after beating Minnesota again nine to two,
and the Yankees are three and oh after beating Milwaukee
again twelve three. Aaron Judge is fourth homer Back to you.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
We're coming to you live from the tyrack dot Com
Studios with Arnie and Plank. I just saw this tweet
from our buddy nature Boy. Yeah, he said, what we
learned this week trying to watch MLB games on an
Amazon Prime app blows save your money and avoid it.
I didn't have any problems, did you? Did you even try?
Speaker 4 (32:40):
I didn't try.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
I didn't go ahead and do that.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
I don't confused by I am in a world where
we have five different teams blacked out for some unknown
reason reason where I live, so it's kind of hard
for me to watch anything. But right now it's been
the free preview weeks, so it's been great.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
I had a problem that not every team played today.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
I go, I go.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
There was was four teams that didn't play on a Sunday.
My Mets didn't play. How could that happen?
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Well, they either right, Arrast Arnie, They've we've been a
season for a while. Four whole days, five whole days. Whatever,
Victor writes, Arnie. Can the Cougars beat the Duke? Or
can the Cougars beat Duke? Or are we done? Thanks Victor,
straight to the point.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
The Duke's already in the finals. Just put them in there.
That's done, that's over. It's oll v R on that one.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
Do you have Duke in the finals?
Speaker 4 (33:29):
Yeah? I have Duke in the finals and Duke winning
it over Auburn.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
Big Cooper flag guy. Huh, you don't worry about that
whole experience thing.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
Zero zero.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
I have no doubt whatsoever Duke is going to crush Houston,
and then Duke will beat whoever.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
They'll probably beat Auburn in the finals.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
This might be the best news victor you could possibly
ever get as far as the Cougars are concerned. And
then one more for mister Nobody here, he writes, I
used to be a big fan of the Attorney, but the
teams of my teen years, Georgetown and UNLV become relics.
I was a fan of the Fab five from Michigan,
tried to follow them this year, but today's college basketball,
(34:06):
he's become almost as bad with shooting threes and it's bored.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
But those are the only two teams I can think
of that we're big back in the what eighties nineties?
Speaker 4 (34:15):
That aren't big now? Are they? Or is there anybody else?
Speaker 3 (34:18):
I mean, you really want to do this. You want
to go back to like the nineteen ninety and CA
Tournament and see who was, who was rolling and who
isn't I mean compared to today, It's not like in
that mix right.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
When Penn was in the Final four or anything like that,
you know.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
I mean, Georgia Tech was a Final four team in
nineteen ninety.
Speaker 4 (34:36):
Georgia Tech used to be a good team.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
Arizona was and they kind of stink. So the wow,
it's a lot, But no, I mean, listen, first of all,
portal's not new. Guys. Not staying in college isn't new.
It's just it's not. It's been different for a long time,
and we survived, and we have survived with buzzer beaters
and Cinderella's with the one in don era and guys
skipping college. I think we're gonna f find a way
(35:00):
to still have Arnie's beloved buzzer beaters in Cinderella in
the NIL and transfer portal era. Because again a reminder,
we are in the fifth year of NIL in the
Transfer portal and this is the first time that we've
had something like this with Chalk. So again, we'll see
if it ends up sticking and is a problem. And
if it is, then I guess we'll just end up
(35:21):
getting the best teams that ended up making the final four. Anyway,
right now a quick break. When we come back, I'll
get more of your text. So coming in like hot
and all your tweets, toad stinking genius one at Plank
show right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio, all right.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
It's Arny in Plank coming to you live from the
tyrack dot Com studio. Is a reminder, you can check
out the Fox Sports Radio YouTube channel. Tons of great
videos from many of our Fox Sports Radio shows. Just
search Fox Sports Radio on YouTube and you'll see a
whole bunch of video highlights from our shows. And be
sure to subscribe so you always have instant access to
our Fox Sports Radio videos on YouTube. So what do
(36:03):
you make of the bat controversy? Let steer it clear
of the NCAA for just a minute. In the NCAA tournament,
Yankees have new bats. And I've never even thought about
it before, but apparently they had an M. I. T.
Physicist right who was it Marlin's coach right, and now
has created these torpedo bats. Thought you let me give
(36:27):
you Let.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
Me back up a little bit here, because I said
something to you a long long time.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
Ago my god. Okay, this goes back to already telling
us the future go ahead.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
No, no, And you kind of laughed at it, and I'm like,
I'm being serious because I spoke to the people from
Louisville Slugger. I had done a remote and they had
come out. This was in Phoenix and it it was
an unbelievable remote. They were fixing the kid's gloves and
stuff like that, but that's beside the point. And he
was explaining to me how they make bats a little
bit different for left hands because of the grain of
(36:58):
the wood. And I'm like, get aie, there's no difference
left hander the right hander. And he really tried to
explain to me how the grain and he showed me
the thing, and ever since then, I'm like, man, there's
gotta be other ways to manipulate the bat, but I'm
just not smart enough to think. And finally it comes around.
I think this is the craziest thing I ever heard
(37:19):
in my life. First of all, it took me a
while to kind of find the picture. I didn't, you know,
there's so many memes out there. I'm like, is this it?
Speaker 5 (37:26):
Wait?
Speaker 2 (37:26):
But I can't be it. You know, Jason does a
picture of the big red plastic bat. That's all I
think about now, is that people going up there with
those big, you know, barrel red bats or you know,
like there are softball bats or something. I can't believe
it's taken this long to do something like that. And Chris,
I don't even fully understand what exactly they did. They
(37:48):
moved the sweet spot or the sweet spot's not where
the logo is, and I'm like, who came up with
this stuff? And I think it's boloney. I think all
the other teams are gonna have to do it now, Chris.
You know that because the Yikes just had a tremendous
opening three games that was out of this world.
Speaker 4 (38:07):
So everybody else is going to have to do this.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
I don't think you can now go back to the
old way, So you're just gonna have to make bats
like this from now on.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
Yeah, the Yankees, whether they scored twelve today in a
twelve to three win, whether they had twenty the other night,
I guess they didn't use the torpedo bats in the
opener when they went four to two. But here's here's
my question to you. What kind of adjustment is it
for the players? In their swing, Like, how does it
feel different? Is what I need to know. Everyone's everyone's
(38:36):
kind of made minimal. I guess you could say, uh
a hubbu or fuss about that, but right, I mean
all of us have swung a bat at some point
before in our life, and you know, depending on what
you were, maybe you needed like a thirty four inch
bat and twenty eight ounces or whatever whenever you were
a kid or you know whatever, it might be like,
this has got to have a different feel to your swing,
right whenever you're it has to.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
I don't know if you're saying maybe it feels a
little bit heavier or a little bit.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
What just anything would affect your swing plane, right.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
I would think I would think that you probably go
down in size or down in ways.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
Well, they claim the bats are custom made to player preferences,
and if you want to really nerd out, they're designed
so that the densest part of the bat is where
that particular hitter most often makes contact with the baseball.
So there's a lot of analytics and stats and numbers
and things like that to go into it. Now, MLB
(39:31):
has said it doesn't break any rules.
Speaker 4 (39:33):
How can that be possible?
Speaker 2 (39:35):
I don't know just what. At some point, I just
don't know how that's possible, how you could realter a
piece of equipment and say, yeah, that's good, that's good
to go, you know what I mean? You know what,
I'm just gonna make my baseball glove like twice the
size of everybody else's to make sure I could catch
the ball or something.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
Griz, boy, that would be brilliant, wouldn't it just already?
Span You're out there with like this massive glove in
the outfield because there's no rules against it. Well, you guys,
I know, have thoughts on it. We see it all
over Twitter at Steinking Genius Wanted Plank Show. But according
to Major League Baseball, the only thing that the rules
say is the bats shall be shall be smooth, round
(40:13):
and no more than two point six inches in diameter
to the thickest part, and not more than forty two
inches long. There you go, there's the only rules. So far,
the Yankees are playing by the rules. But for how long.
Speaker 1 (40:25):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio?
Speaker 3 (40:29):
Here we go in an hour two along with our
man Arnie Spaniel, I'm Chris plank Ian Roddy producing the show.
He's got us our buddy Todd froman coming up to
kick off our second segment, Mary Mack making things happen,
Steve the Sega on updates, got tons of audio to
get to from the game tonight, and it's all.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
I got a vacation coming up too.
Speaker 4 (40:48):
I want you to know.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
That you do where you heading.
Speaker 4 (40:51):
You get in the public.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
You want to get the ti rack read in first,
you want to tire.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
Go ahead, go get the tire rack read in first.
Go ahead.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
Tirack dot com will help you get there on my
selection fast free shipping, free road hatchard protection and over
ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack dot com the way
tire buying should be. You know, I was listening to
you with Mike, Yeah, Friday night, and Mike got to
finish points, He got to make his opinions known.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
Did you see what? Did you see him?
Speaker 3 (41:17):
Never? Because you never talked. You just let him, I mean,
you never interrupted him, You never troubled.
Speaker 2 (41:23):
He got really mad at me during the show.
Speaker 4 (41:25):
Did you hear that part?
Speaker 5 (41:27):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (41:28):
That might have been during my thirty minute pre shownp
He was.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
He was the maddest I've ever seen him at me
because I called him.
Speaker 3 (41:37):
Chris, Oh did you? I mean, that's why would he
be mad?
Speaker 4 (41:41):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (41:42):
He just took it very personal.
Speaker 3 (41:44):
That's his statement. That's high praise.
Speaker 2 (41:46):
I said, don't be mad.
Speaker 4 (41:49):
It happens.
Speaker 2 (41:49):
I always been doing a show with the guy for
like thirteen years.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
That is that weird. Like I would never get mad
if I was doing a show with Jason and he
called me Mike or I show Mike, Can you call
me Jason? It makes sense? And really so he got
ATTU Did he yell? Did he scream? Did he throw things?
Speaker 4 (42:05):
What did you call me?
Speaker 2 (42:07):
What did you call me?
Speaker 7 (42:09):
Well?
Speaker 3 (42:09):
That's that. Well, I'm very much. I don't have a
weekday show here on Fox Sports Radio, so I'm not
on his level. Maybe that's part of it. Wow, you
don't give me that break. You don't give me that opportunity.
Speaker 2 (42:20):
I'm not Monday through Friday either, So.
Speaker 3 (42:22):
But I do have a I guess, at least an idea.
I don't know what the final numbers might look like,
but I think as far as a show and we
can include a saga in this, no trio or duo
is higher rated as far as points are than you
and I are.
Speaker 4 (42:40):
No we're dominating everybody.
Speaker 3 (42:42):
It's and it's not even close. Like Alex Curry on
with Doug Gottlieb. She's not, is he. She's on Saturdays. Okay,
she's on Saturday. No, she's either you. Look as far
as you and me, you got I've got one on one.
You've got ninety eight. There's no one even close to that.
And the saga is right there as well, too, tied
with you at ninety eight.
Speaker 2 (42:59):
I'm not in first place right now because that usually
gets me in trouble.
Speaker 3 (43:03):
I don't.
Speaker 6 (43:04):
I would add, by the way, in the employees pool here,
we have seventy people in this pool. With the employees here,
I am fourth. So if you add the three of
us as we.
Speaker 2 (43:14):
Don't have seventy.
Speaker 6 (43:15):
No, we not not hosts pool the employees here.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
Oh I got you, I got you okay, the one
that say yeah, thanks for inviting me for that one,
thank you, like I got the power.
Speaker 3 (43:25):
I can't but wait, you have you have you're the boss.
Speaker 2 (43:29):
Wait a bit, wait, wait, I want to get to
you have seventy people in the pool.
Speaker 4 (43:32):
But my money wasn't good enough for you guys.
Speaker 6 (43:34):
I don't understand your money, he said, his question mark
it's free?
Speaker 4 (43:39):
Was it free?
Speaker 3 (43:40):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (43:41):
Okay?
Speaker 6 (43:41):
Sponsored by the company every year.
Speaker 2 (43:44):
No, I knew that part. I just didn't know. I
thought you had another thing going on the side there.
Speaker 6 (43:49):
No, no, not just in the hallways here, I mean
literally the company.
Speaker 3 (43:53):
Okay, wait, so you knew about the company one, Harney.
Speaker 4 (43:59):
Uh No, I don't, cause you go.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
Yeah, I knew about that one. I'm just the first
I've ever heard of it.
Speaker 2 (44:04):
If confused between that and the in the.
Speaker 3 (44:09):
Contest, Well, the contest right now is what I was
speaking of. And then Disaga points out how on fire
he is right now, he's I think I think it
shapes up where no one's going to be able to
catch us Arnie. So with that in mind, I think
that the highest point total combined between hosts should take
over the lowest point total time slot.
Speaker 6 (44:29):
How about a little relegation like.
Speaker 3 (44:31):
Yeah, I mean, listen, LeVar Arrington's in DFL right now,
in our leg But I think I think they're being
saved by noted basketball guru Brady Quinn right now, who's
number three. But if you put Covino in Rich's numbers together,
I don't even think they equal what you've made as
far as points are concerned right now in this thing,
and let's see what Jason Smith's kind of saving harmon
(44:54):
a little bit too, because he's well down on this,
so it looks like there's no relegation there. But I
think we would have case here, Arnie. I think I'm
gonna win.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
I think you can win it, or I can still
win it.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
Leave's gonna win it.
Speaker 2 (45:05):
All is he gonna is too far ahead of right now?
Speaker 3 (45:08):
I think he's too far ahead. And I think as
far as his championship is concerned, he's got Duke in Florida,
and I just I don't know, you know, I don't
nerd out to where I feel like I've had the
greatest year I've ever had picking games, and I'm nowhere
near winning any of the pools that I'm in.
Speaker 2 (45:23):
I just got Leave to win it, no offense. Is
that Does that sound mean?
Speaker 3 (45:26):
No? Why would that sound mean?
Speaker 4 (45:27):
I don't want him to win it?
Speaker 6 (45:30):
So different than most of your comments.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
I know that.
Speaker 2 (45:32):
Well, I don't want to Sayga winning it either. I
don't want I don't want winning it.
Speaker 7 (45:36):
This might just be me because my brackets and shambles,
but I feel like this year, in particular, is a
year where like I've just been kind of operating with
the thought process that like, if you still have a
really good bracket at this point, it's it's just completely
I mean, obviously that's what it is.
Speaker 3 (45:51):
I thought about that.
Speaker 6 (45:52):
I know where you're going with it. I thought about
that after previous pools in recent years the way college
basketball has gone. But this year, people that are succeeding
are picking good teams right exactly. But before used to
get a lot of points by picking accidents, like I
knew ten seed Arkansas.
Speaker 3 (46:10):
Yeah, I saw Youler, They're awesome, man, I knew and
they like never.
Speaker 6 (46:14):
Heard him becat Canyon won last year had that.
Speaker 3 (46:17):
Picking by like a mascot or so. I see what
you're saying, Ian, But whenever it's all chalk. I don't
know if you can say that right. If it's like
thirteen eight nine, then maybe you might be like, wow,
you lucked into that. But I mean put it this way.
Speaker 6 (46:32):
The Houston Cougars are in the Final four, and they've
played the toughest possible seed every round and beat them all.
They have a possibility of being the first to do
that every round if they get a couple of one
seeds in the final four. It's like Oregon in the
college football playoffs. They just had the worst, they got
the worst champions.
Speaker 2 (46:50):
Well, what did you say about us? Did they beat
the highest seed.
Speaker 6 (46:54):
Highest possible seed? So you're face facing sixteen eight four one.
Speaker 3 (47:00):
Yeah, they didn't get a break. Well, and honestly, you
didn't get too many breaks in this tournament as far
as the higher seated teams are concerned. Anyway, there just
wasn't a lot of ups.
Speaker 6 (47:09):
Except they get to stay in state for the final four.
That's the extend.
Speaker 3 (47:12):
That's true. That's true. And Arnie, you were talking about
San Antonio to Houston, it's it's really not that that
far at all. You're looking at three hours and thirty minutes,
which is that walking?
Speaker 2 (47:23):
Oh driving?
Speaker 3 (47:24):
Okay, it's two hundred and thirty seven miles. I looked
it up and having taken that root root route before,
whichever way you'd call it, it's a you're gonna sit
in traffic for a while, so three and a half
hours might be like four or four. And now have
you been to San Antonio before?
Speaker 4 (47:42):
I've been there once before.
Speaker 3 (47:44):
Too many people, and I mean, I'm just telling you,
I don't know how you guys get around on a
day to day basis. And I love you and you're
beautiful and you're awesome, but when you have an event
like this too many people, it's just gonna be wid.
Speaker 6 (47:56):
You gotta swim the riverwalk. That's really how you make.
Speaker 3 (47:59):
Hey oh man. Well, anyway, we'll talk more tournament coming
up here on Fox Sports Radio, but for now the show,
Arni and Plank in good shape. As far as the
bracket challenge is concerned. Do you not like the idea
of relative I mean, you're the boss, right, don't you
call the shots?
Speaker 2 (48:14):
I think the bottom three should go ahead and be,
you know, lose their show, no offense. I'm gonna miss them.
But if you're that bad, we've got to go ahead.
Should you just a dead Patrick in the bottom Well
he is. He got surpassed by LeVar Arrington. So you're saying,
instead of going with two guys, you're going every man
for themselves. And you're saying, like, for now, Rich Davis,
(48:36):
Dan Patrick and LeVar Arrington being I guess what we
have thirty three host hit are in this? What thro
a cup of Joe and Arnie? That's enough to be
then there you go.
Speaker 3 (48:45):
Yeah, well, I mean you're not in the top three though,
so it would be gottlieb Curry and Fratto.
Speaker 2 (48:51):
So it would be Bernie.
Speaker 3 (48:52):
It would be a cup of Joe a pro a
cup of Joe and Bertie Fratto. Okay, look at me,
there you go.
Speaker 2 (49:00):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (49:01):
But see I was going for the teammates. I was
going for you. Just went every man for themselves.
Speaker 2 (49:06):
I have three of the four teams in the final four,
so I would have had all four.
Speaker 4 (49:11):
I don't know why I didn't take Houston.
Speaker 2 (49:12):
I don't know what I did wrong there.
Speaker 3 (49:14):
Well, I mean I've got all four. I had all eight.
I've never had a picking situation like this before, and
I'm still.
Speaker 4 (49:22):
Only three points ahead of Meat.
Speaker 3 (49:24):
It's just it makes no sense. I didn't have I
didn't all my upsets didn't hit U, C C and Diego.
I didn't really believe in your in your Arizona Wildcat,
so I had Oregon beating them. In fact, I think
I had them losing in the first round. I believed
in VCU a little bit too much too. I think
I got drunk on someone telling me VCU was good.
So those are my two major mistakes that I made.
(49:45):
But I look at this and I'm like, how how? Oh,
I'm sorry. I had seven of the Elite eight teams
for I had by you, and you also had tech
going far, which I was impressed with. Good on you.
Was that just because of the Big Twelve time?
Speaker 5 (49:59):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (50:00):
This year?
Speaker 2 (50:01):
I saw so much of the Big Twelve this year,
a lot more than when I used to watch the
Pack twelve, to be honest with you, Chris, because the
Back twelve was such crazy hours, right, it was just horrible.
But the Big Twelve was a lot more good time
out right, Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 (50:15):
And they'll do it where the Big Ten does their
games on unique days, they'll do them in odd times like, hey,
welcome the Big Ten game.
Speaker 4 (50:23):
Were there were some good teams in the Big twelve
this year?
Speaker 5 (50:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (50:27):
There was five six?
Speaker 3 (50:27):
It was all right. So we got basketball and we
got baseball that I want to hit here on the
text before we get to Todd Furman. Since we're on basketball,
let me stick there with it. Yeah, mister nobody, the
transfer portal today isn't what it used to be. Athletes
can get into the portal, not wait a year and
transfer this has had an adverse effect on the tournament
because it makes the NCAA NBA light in terms of
(50:50):
player movement. Yes, but the portal's brand new? Are the
portals not brand new? It's been what it's like. It's
been like this for five years. Know what you can say?
You can try to challenge me, mister nobody when I'm like, hey,
we've been with this for a while now. Yeah, it's
not like it used to be where you had to
sit out. I'm not a dummy, dude, but we've had
(51:10):
the portal the way it is for five freaking years. Man.
Speaker 2 (51:13):
You know I did. I didn't explain myself good enough.
So when you jump down my throat, so let me
just see if I this is maybe a better way
of all the people that entered the portal. Right, these
kids are gonna go to a better situation.
Speaker 3 (51:25):
They think a lot of.
Speaker 4 (51:25):
Them are gonna may possible most.
Speaker 3 (51:28):
Can I jump in just wrik with what they to clarify,
some of these guys are in the portal, not by
their choice, sometimes to exactly exactly.
Speaker 2 (51:37):
But you know, I think of the portal, I think
of a lot of mid majors where these kids look
good and played well for their team, and they're going
into a Power five conference or something like that. Now,
these kids that didn't get to play in the Power
five conference, as you said that, get booted.
Speaker 4 (51:53):
And I keep saying where they going to play?
Speaker 2 (51:55):
Shouldn't it circle back around and they should be at
the mid major?
Speaker 4 (51:59):
Saying, well, if.
Speaker 2 (52:00):
I'm not gonna sit the bench at the majors, so
I'm gonna go to a mid major, I'm gonna play.
I'm gonna dominate, and we'll see what happens after that.
Speaker 3 (52:07):
Sometimes they're just not that good, you know. I mean,
it's just and they don't develop like they should. I mean,
that's just the reality.
Speaker 5 (52:15):
Right.
Speaker 3 (52:15):
Not everyone that goes to Arizona that they recruit or
that they sign becomes and I'm just using this because
I feel like you can relate, becomes Sean Elliott or
Steve Kerr or Arnie Spanier or Damon Stodomar. Right, Sometimes
you get a guy where they they're supposed to be
going and you're like, oh my gosh, this guy stinks.
And so even if he goes to Tulsa or Wichtaw
(52:36):
State or wherever, he's still not very good. So I
see what you're saying. I'm not disagreeing with you. You would think, right, oh,
you got processed at Georgia. Well, I can't wait to
see it dominate it Tennessee Tech. Right. It doesn't always
work out that way, but I hear what you're saying,
and you would think it might in my work. I
think again, I think the Men Majors are going to
(52:57):
be a place where high school kids ended up.
Speaker 4 (53:00):
Right about that?
Speaker 2 (53:01):
I didn't think about that. I don't know if you, Well, again,
we're not talking about the high ones like McDonald's all Americans.
Speaker 3 (53:07):
They're still gonna go to power fight.
Speaker 2 (53:08):
Well, there's so many high school kids, right about that?
Exactly right?
Speaker 3 (53:12):
And then the other text and I wanted to get
to from Darryl. He's fired up about the the baseball
bats and and I guess maybe I didn't realize how
mad people were about this. He writes, I'm so glad
you dudes are talking these baseball bats. This is absurd.
Let me get this straight. We can't shift infielders, but
we can pick and choose where the sweet spot and
(53:33):
the sweet part of the bat will be. This is absurd.
Man fraud is the worst than Batman ever was.
Speaker 2 (53:41):
We're not absurd about the pitch clock. That's kind of
out of this.
Speaker 3 (53:45):
That's been nice.
Speaker 2 (53:45):
Yeah, it's been great, it's been fantastic. But that when
we first heard about it, we're like, what if God's
not gonna work. There's gonna be one second left there,
you canna only throw over twice. They're gonna be stealing bases.
How's this all gonna work? Chris, I don't understand. But
it's worked out fantastic, and that's that's really changed the
game big time.
Speaker 3 (54:04):
Yeah. No, I think you're right. I think you're right.
But and I'll add, you know, it's not every Yankee
that's using it, and I think Aaron Judge isn't using it.
So you know, there's this thing where it's like, oh
my gosh, every guy And then.
Speaker 4 (54:16):
Why would you use it?
Speaker 3 (54:17):
Though?
Speaker 4 (54:17):
Why wouldn't you use it?
Speaker 3 (54:19):
Well, like I said, I don't know, man, maybe there's
a certain field to it that Aaron Judge doesn't like.
Are a couple guys might not like. Guys get set
in their way. I mean, and sometimes you know, you're
telling me the pictures aren't already working on a way
to combat that. I mean, maybe maybe there's a chance
you can jam them up a little bit more, and
they're more vulnerable whenever you try to come inside. I
(54:40):
don't know, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (54:41):
You know what's changed over the years is the way
you hold the bat. I remember the days of fields beyond.
You would know who that is, Chris who used to
choke up with the bat like I mean, oh my goodness, man,
you know what I'm talking about?
Speaker 8 (54:53):
It?
Speaker 3 (54:54):
Yeah? Really choice?
Speaker 2 (54:55):
And then there was well, I forget which player he
would have his pinky wrapped around the bottom of these?
Speaker 3 (55:00):
Is that Dave Parker or Willie Stargel, I don't remember.
You know what I'm talking about?
Speaker 2 (55:06):
Y is pinky around the bottom knob? I'm like, what
are you doing? How you getting a grip on that?
Speaker 3 (55:12):
I got a lot of players do that?
Speaker 4 (55:13):
Oh really?
Speaker 3 (55:14):
Yeah? Yeah? Well, and again I say that what I
see it a lot in like youth baseball. I'm not
even kidding, dude, I see it all. Yeah, whenever, like
high school baseball, college baseball.
Speaker 2 (55:24):
Well, why you would want to do that?
Speaker 3 (55:26):
No, don't know a lot of people do. Oh and
slow pitch softball too. So when we come back to
the tirack dot Com, studios. Well, we'll throw these debates
out in front of Todd Furman because I'm sure he
has an opinion or two. Plus we missed him last week,
so we'll get his thoughts on the overall tournament handle
and if it's been a good NCA tournament so far.
For the books are a bad one. Plus, we do
want to remind you now. You can see how we're

next on Fox Sports Radio. All right, it's already in Plank,
(56:31):
coming to you live from the tyrack dot com studios.
He is back, Todd Furman is in the house. Glad
to have you back. Todd missed you last week. So
has it been a good tournament as far as the
books are concerned? Or where are we whenever it comes
to whether or not this has been a profitable one
or not for the books.
Speaker 8 (56:50):
Well, when you look at some of the numbers, if
we go back throughout the NCAA tournament and look at
the biggest conferences at college basketball, the ACC, the SEC,
the Big Ten, et cetera rich gentleman of six points
or more during the months of March now sixty five
and three from a straight up standpoint, So that puts
the books in a little bit of a tough spot.
They're getting some of these underdogs to cover from an
(57:10):
ATS standpoint, But they would have loved Texas Tech to
win their game outright against Florida had the Red Raiders
not squandering away that nine point lead. So a little
bit of a mixed bag for the most part. Today's
results not exactly great for the house in terms of
Auburn getting there, but surprisingly enough, you had a lot
of folks that fell in love with Tennessee given what
they saw offensively in that dismantling of Kentucky and the
(57:32):
Elite eight matchups. So I expect the Houston game was
a pretty good result, at least from a couple of
books that I spoke to earlier today.
Speaker 2 (57:38):
Todd, they never give fair enough odds on moneyline when
it comes to this. I mean, when you're like a
six or seven point dog, they don't give you true
value when it comes to money line. If they did,
more people would be betting it.
Speaker 1 (57:51):
Well.
Speaker 8 (57:51):
I mean, there's always an implied probability with all of that, Arnie.
So if you don't believe there's a fair money line
on the underdog, then you always have the option to
lay the price with the favorite. Now and of course
decide how they want to set up a straddle on
a particular game. You know, is it forty cents, is
it sixty cents? And as you start to approach you
know that seven, eight, nine, ten range, it's a little
wider in terms of an implied theoretical hole. But there
(58:12):
is always the option that if you want to bet
a favorite on the money line, you can do that
the same way you can back an underdog. So all
of it's largely a mathematical calculation and books will find,
you know, that equilibrium point. So when that number got
a little bit shorter earlier day on Houston, you did
have some professional betters looking to lay that minus a
dollar forty five minus a dollar fifty on Houston, thinking
(58:32):
that that was a better way to attack a game
with such a low total, with Houston only a three
point favorite.
Speaker 3 (58:37):
So has it been, in your opinion, a good tournament
or just a met tournament so far as far as
excitement and profitability, You.
Speaker 8 (58:45):
Know, I'm always wanting to find at least one Cinderella
story somewhere in the mix, and we haven't really had
all of that. When you look at eleven teams and
turn lower seeds have actually won games outright, you know,
it's the lowest number that we've seen in March Madness. Now,
maybe it's the sign of the time that when we
talked about parody in the nil landscape, we're not going
to see a whole heck of a lot of that
but at the same time, I think all four teams
(59:07):
that are going to San Antonio with a chance to
cut down the nets. You look at what their overall
metrics are, and they're arguably four of the best teams
if youse use their net rating that we've ever seen,
you know, not just in one season, but over the
last you know, fifteen to twenty years. So clearly the
cream has risen to the top. And I think as
a result, any of the college basketball fans are out
(59:27):
there are going to be treated to some of the
best matchups on paper, with Houston and Duke a contrasting
styles that we saw last year in the Sweet sixteen,
and an all SEC showdown between Auburn and Florida, especially
when you consider the unique storyline that Todd Golden was
actually a director of basketball operations on Bruce Pearl's staff
way back in twenty fourteen.
Speaker 2 (59:46):
I saw that That's a great story, dude.
Speaker 8 (59:47):
You bet hey, Arnie, Arnie one Arnie. One other thing too.
I mean, for every young Jewish man out there coaching,
I mean, this is going to be maybe the peak
of the mountain top with Todd Golden, Bruce Pearl, and
of course John Shire all members of the tribe. So
there may be hope for you to be a college
basketball head coach before you.
Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
Hang things out exactly. You know, I used to watch
John Shire in high school. Our work was across the street.
That guy was one score man. He was a hell
of a player, no doubt about that. But Duke Houston,
when you mentioned the over under and how much Duke scores,
that's a low one thirty seven. And I know Houston
keeps it slow, but I don't know if they're going
to be able to do it against Duke.
Speaker 4 (01:00:25):
I love the over there.
Speaker 8 (01:00:26):
So it's some interesting numbers when we look at the
Houston Duke Houston and Duke matchup. The total right now
where it's it'll be the lowest in a Duke game
going back to February seventeenth, where that total closed a
little bit lower against Virginia. This is actually the smallest
number from a point spread standpoint, that we've seen on
a Duke game going all the way back to November
twenty sixth. But for those folks who look at Houston
(01:00:48):
and think they're a little bit undervalued, you can understand
why that case is being made is it's only the
second game that Houston will end up closing as an underdog.
Over the last three seasons, and when you look at
Duke and the resume that they've put together, the Duke
hasn't played one defense ranked inside the top twenty five.
They played one excuse me, defense ranked inside the top
twenty five since the turn of the calendar year. That
(01:01:08):
one opponent was Clemson at number seventeen. That also just
happens to be the last time Duke Glosta basketball game
outright as an eight point favorite. So interesting match up
on a variety of fronts, and I think the big
question ken Houston's score enough. But at the same time,
we'll do be ready for a game that could be
a lot more physical than anything that they've encountered over
the last three months.
Speaker 3 (01:01:26):
So I don't know how much Todd do you care
about the Kimpom, but I guess in the history of
the expanded Tournament and even further like maybe in the
history of the kim Pom ratings zero, these are their
four highest rated teams, are among the four highest rated
teams that we've ever had. I think it sets up
for a pretty epic final four. Now. Kimpom Stuff Analytics
(01:01:48):
I'm a little bit dumb for some of those things,
but I know a lot of smart people talk about it.
So when you have four teams that have been extremely
high in their ratings offense and defensive ability, I think
that's a sign that we could have a really, really
solid final four.
Speaker 8 (01:02:02):
Definitely some of the more complete teams that we've seen
in recent memory. And you know, a couple of years
ago and we had an fau get to the final
four of San Diego State and no disrespect meant to
what Dusty May was able to do leading the owls there.
Or San Diego State has kind of become, you know,
the gold standard of Mountain West basketball. There's a little
bit more pedigree in the four teams that we're going
to see here, and Florida and Auburn, you know, have
(01:02:24):
earned their metal and the same thing can be said
for Duke and Houston. So I'll have one team hailing
from the SEC and we'll see who emerges from that
ECC Big twelve showdown. Keep in mind that this Florida
Auburn game, at least where the total sits right now,
you know, in the low one sixties, could be one
of the largest over unders that we see in an
NCAA tournament game at this deep into the tournament since
(01:02:45):
two thousand and seven.
Speaker 2 (01:02:46):
Wow, Wow, I know the Alabama one was pretty high,
so that copy by surprise.
Speaker 4 (01:02:51):
Let's get over to some Major League baseball.
Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
If I got to ask you in about a month
from now, isay, Todd, if you would have been one
hundred dollars on the Dodgers on the money line every game,
you'd be up like five million dollars.
Speaker 4 (01:03:02):
I want to be that guy, Todd.
Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
They're already five and oh, I want to be that
guy that you're going to say that a month from now.
Speaker 8 (01:03:08):
I mean, look, you were asking me if you could
get odds on the Dodgers to go one hundred and
sixty two at oh Arni Bros. They're only right now,
by my quick math, one hundred and fifty seven games
away from being able to achieve that impossibility. So it's
still out there very much that Dodgers could run the table.
But clearly, at least to the early going, they have
shown some of their metal and depth from the top
(01:03:29):
of the lineup on down. We'll see exactly when Roki
Sasaki starts to pitch like the player that the Dodgers
expected him to be. But this is every baseball fans
prerogative to overreact in March and April, and clearly this
not an indicative sample size of what we're going to
see from any of these teams going forward, although the
Dodgers have done nothing to create any panic amongst their
(01:03:49):
fan base.
Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Can you believe there's only four teams undefeated after what
three four games?
Speaker 4 (01:03:54):
That's crazy, not.
Speaker 8 (01:03:56):
Really that surprising in baseball when you look at how
much parody is at actually out there, and if a
good team can win two out of every three games,
it just puts things in perspective how difficult it really
is to sweep, especially early in the year, where you
know a lot of players are still trying to get
their feet under them, and it's a little bit different
when you're adjusting from spring training at the Dish compared
to going out there and facing big time major league pitching.
(01:04:19):
Although some of the pitchers, apparently, when you look at
some of these stat lines, may need a little bit
more time getting stretched out, being able to throw breaking balls,
and trying to get their velocity up in some of
the colder temperatures.
Speaker 3 (01:04:29):
Todd real quick final thought, from me anything on the
quarterback Parissel the last few weeks, do anything for you,
Russell Wilson with the Giants, I mean kind of following
the Aaron Rodgers saga right now, doing anything for you
as far as the way you're viewing teams right now.
Speaker 8 (01:04:43):
It doesn't change a whole heck of a lot. I
think that the Giants still very much in play to
draft a quarterback, whether it's inside the top five or
somewhere a little bit later in the draft. An interesting
quarterback room that they're building with Russell Wilson and Jamis Winston.
I think the other big domino, and I say that
relatively speaking that we're still waiting to fall is with
Aaron Rodgers. I'm just not sure the Steelers anticipated going
into the season with Mason Rudolph as their potential starting quarterback,
(01:05:06):
which is the way things are trending. So a lot
of items to get played out, you know, over the
next couple of weeks as the draft balls will continue,
and we'll see exactly how high draft Jackson Dark can
move up the draft board and what team falls in
love with some of the intangibles and the skill set
that they've seen from Jalen Milrow.
Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
By the way, Todd, I've invented the four foot baseball
glove that you can wear to go along with this
torpedo bat. So I think we should, you know, patent
it and get it on the market immediately.
Speaker 8 (01:05:32):
There are some rules in the rule book about specifications.
Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
For the kind of a quick What do you think
about that time.
Speaker 8 (01:05:37):
On the diamonds. I think it's much ado about nothing.
I give the Yankees a little bit of credit for
thinking outside the box, but judging by how those baseballs
were jumping off the bat, it just wasn't the Yankees offense.
My gut tells me that there may be some baseballs
that are around a little bit tighter in the early
going than what we see during the dead ball era.
Speaker 3 (01:05:56):
Like the way you're thank you all right, Todd. Have
a great week, buddy, Enjoy the Final four and we'll
talk to you next time.
Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
Now.
Speaker 3 (01:06:02):
Always a pleasure.
Speaker 8 (01:06:03):
Jets, have a great week.
Speaker 3 (01:06:04):
There is Todd Furman, all right. Steve Sager comes rolling
in with everything that's training, because everything a final now
in the world.
Speaker 6 (01:06:10):
Of sports, just about I mean, the La Kings are
so far ahead as might might as well be a
final They're up six to one on San Jose with
about six minutes left in the late NHL game.
Speaker 4 (01:06:20):
I'm glad, you know, even I got that game on.
Speaker 6 (01:06:22):
I'm glad already brought up the thing with the gloves,
because there are rules about how big your glove can
be in a Major League Baseball game, but there are
no such rules for bats. That's equipment also. But yeah,
for those who are unaware of the discussion. This weekend,
the Yankees, some of them are using what are called
torpedo bats. That is, there's more wood at the sweet spot.
(01:06:44):
There's a larger mass. In other words, you're less likely
to miss the pitch at that spot of the bat.
It's a little wider wood than you would have normally had. Well,
we had the Marlins with another walk off win, three
to two over Pittsburgh, the first team in over twenty
years to have their first three wins of the season
all be via the walkoff, and this was on a
(01:07:06):
walk off wild pitch. The Pirates closer David Bednar is
zero to two quickly with an ERA of twenty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
Oh geez.
Speaker 6 (01:07:14):
The Yankees are three and oh after beating Milwaukee twelve
to three. Aaron Judge with his fourth home run after
he had three yesterday. Padres four and oh after shutting
out Atlanta five nothing. Tonight, Braves offense went one for
twenty six, and the Cardinals are three and oh after
defeating Minnesota and the tall starter Bailey Ober nine to
the final. The Dodgers are five and oh. They were
(01:07:34):
off today. They're only Sunday off all season. Let's get
to men's hoops. Auburn and Houston are headed to the
Final four. It's next weekend. The first game, six pm
Eastern on Saturday, will be Auburn against Florida in all
SEC matchup. The late game we'll have Duke against Houston.
The Cougars, one seed in the Midwest, beat Tennessee sixty
(01:07:55):
nine fifty today and then Auburn eliminated Michigan State seventy
to sixty four to win the South Region. Villanova's new
head coach Kevin Willard from Maryland. He'd also coached at
Seton Hall in the past. The women's regional finals started
with South Carolina and UCLA advancing two more games tomorrow.
In the NBA, the late game at Phoenix went to
the Rockets one forty eight one oh nine over the Suns.
(01:08:18):
Kevin Durant left rolling an ankle and he's not leaving
with the team for this week's road trip. Among the
eight NHL games, Buffalo won eight to five at Washington,
Alex Ovechkin of the Caps with career goal number eight ninety,
getting closer to the Wayne Gretzky record, although we emphasized
that is an NHL goal scored record. Gretzky's rookie year,
(01:08:38):
good as it was, apparently is not being counted because
his team had not been folded into the NHL yet.
Denny Hamlin the NASCAR winner at Martinsville. He led two
hundred and seventy four the last two hundred and seventy
five laps. It's his fifty fifth career win. This was
the first short track race of the season. Christopher Bell
finished second. Hamlin has now won Cup races with seven
(01:08:59):
different crew chiefs in his long career. NASCAR's on FS
one again the next two Sundays. The IndyCar Series is
off until mid April, but all seventeen IndyCar races this
year are on Fox TV, so that includes the Indy
five hundred in late May and an upset at the
Miami You Open Tennis final on the men's side tonight,
after a five and a half hour rain delay at
(01:09:21):
the start, Novak Djokovic was beaten by unseated nineteen year
old Yakoub Mensik. Yeah him banck to you.
Speaker 3 (01:09:29):
Thanks a lot, Steve. By the way, I butchered that
sat on kimpom. Let me let me clean it up
a little bit, all right. Isaac Trotter tweeted this earlier today.
The six highest rated teams from the last decade of
college basketball per Kinpom, four of them are in this
final four. So they had twenty twenty five Duke won,
(01:09:49):
twenty twenty five, Houston two, then twenty twenty four, Gonzaga three,
twenty twenty one, Gonzaga four, followed by Florida and Auburn
from this year. So based on the Kimpom numbers that
everybody loves, I mean, every every nerd out there loves
those analytics, four teams in that top six over the
last decade.
Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
Pretty I mean, we'll have the close games in we'll
have a buzzer beater.
Speaker 3 (01:10:13):
Finally, maybe you'll finally get your buzzer beating so badly,
I I'm surprised you weren't even mad about the buzzer
beater we got because it, uh it was there was traveling.
I thought, no more. I watch it. First time I watched,
I was like, no, he didn't travel. Yeah, yeah, well,
I mean that's the only one we've had, right, Yeah,
that's true. The Houston one doesn't count because they called
(01:10:36):
Why did they stop that at point eight? I mean
it's just I've asked five people that put the clip up,
five beat riders. I've looked like a nerd on Twitter.
Why did they chalk the clock? No one ever explained it.
They just stopped. No one had of time out. They
went and reviewed what. I have no idea what they
went and reviewed, and then they just let pretty and
bound the ball and get a I mean at least
a half court shot. I mean, it worked for the
(01:10:57):
Bulls the other night. But just can I just add
one more thing. We're reviewing too much, crap, Arnie. I
know you're like, oh, let's get it right, but we're
reviewing too much.
Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
Especially when it's in like the final four or five minutes. Man,
it's taken a long time.
Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
By the way, I'm very proud of you though, that
you didn't come in here grinching about start times tonight,
because I was going to be with you. I was
gonna have your back because those Thursday Friday games, Holy smokes,
the Thursday Friday in the first two rounds of the tournament,
the Thursday Friday games for the Sweet sixteen? Just why
are we starting?
Speaker 2 (01:11:30):
When I filled in on Friday, that was one of
the things I said, I go, this is ridiculous. You
got two games starting after ten pm Eastern, which is
fine on Friday because I happened to be working that day.
Speaker 4 (01:11:40):
It's all your day with it.
Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
But other than me, I'm sure there was not a
lot of happy people out there. Games ending about twelve fifteen,
twelve thirty. That's just ridiculous. They got to do something
about that.
Speaker 3 (01:11:50):
It's a lot. It is an absolute lot. Brendan just
checked anyway. So I wonder how much of the LA
population is going to do these guys falling radio, TV
or social media. When the Dodgers lose one game, they'll
claim they're disappointed, and the Dodgers won't go one sixty
two and oh in the regular season and eleven and
zero in the playoffs. I know you were joking tongue
(01:12:12):
in cheek, But I mean, you watch what if they
roll like to get to sixteen and oh or something
ridiculous like that.
Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
Their attendance is going to be unbelievable. And I'm not
just talking about attendance at home. I'm curious to see
all on the road. It's going to be cellouts too.
It's going to be crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:12:31):
Let's see the greatest start to an MLB season the
ninth though the eighteen eighty four Saint Louis Maroons. I
was going to say that went twenty and oh. I
remember the Orioles had a pretty wild start too to
a season I say a while agoing to probably like
nineteen eighty four. But who knows, Maybe we're on the
cusp of it. Dodgers keep rolling, all right. When we
come back to the dirack dot com studio, Steve de
(01:12:54):
Sega in the house with everything we've missed and everything
that's coming up and everything you need to know a
Fox Sports radio. All right, Steve de Seger is in
the house. This is where we get caught up on
all the news that we've missed. What's going on, Steve.
Speaker 6 (01:13:09):
And Everything's final NHL it was Kings eight to one
over San Jose is that has just ended. And as
far as the game winner in March Madness with the
Houston narrow victory against Purdue, my understanding was simply that
it was well, in the final minute of a game,
the clock stops when the ball goes through the hoop,
(01:13:29):
not right lands on the floor, and therefore, looking back
at the replay, it was at point eight and that's
why there was still an extra point eight left for
the opponent to essentially not do anything. I like, you,
what are we doing here? Just because it was the end. Yeah,
But if you don't like the massive amount of reviews
(01:13:50):
in the last two minutes of a college basketball game,
do I have the tournament for you. It's brand new
and it starts tomorrow in lass in Vegas. Sixteen teams
that did not qualify for the NCAAs are in the
College Basketball Crown. New tournaments starts Monday. Games are on
(01:14:10):
FS one all night tomorrow and all night the next night,
starting at three pm Eastern, and then by Sunday they
get their final four on Fox TV the final on Sunday.
But one of the announcers tweeted that rather than officials
in this tournament this week, arbitrarily going to the monitor
on any out of bounds call in the last two minutes.
(01:14:31):
For this, this is just the Vegas tournament. Any debatable
call requires a coach to use a timeout to challenge.
Now there's no limit on challenges, but if you're out
of timeouts, you know what, you can't challenge and you'd
be charged with a technical meaning the opponent gets two
shots and the ball. If you succeed in your challenge,
(01:14:52):
you keep the timeout.
Speaker 3 (01:14:53):
You had to use two.
Speaker 6 (01:14:54):
Challenge, so that could lease replayers.
Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
Teams have any players left with everyone who's jumped in
the chains football?
Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
They're playing for money, right they're playing. They get money
for that, don't they.
Speaker 6 (01:15:03):
Obviously there would be money involved for people. But I
noticed that one of the games, not tomorrow night but
Tuesday night is Villanova, which just got a new head coach,
Kevin Willard from Maryland today, So whoever was on staff
somebody got a signed. Once the athletic department said, you know,
our season is not over. Same thing with USC, they
kind of wanted to keep playing. And guess what USC's
(01:15:24):
in this thing in Vegas? They get what does the
winner get?
Speaker 2 (01:15:26):
The Sega they get they get cast, right.
Speaker 6 (01:15:28):
I did not see the breakdown of who gets first
place money or second like a God tournament.
Speaker 2 (01:15:33):
Yeah, they get money for that. That's why they're getting
so many teams to play in it.
Speaker 6 (01:15:36):
But I know Georgetown's in it with a game tomorrow,
Arizona State, Utah has a game tomorrow. Butler has a
game to start things off tomorrow. And it's Butler's gym
that's being used for the NIT. Now do you know
the New York City doesn't have the NIIT final for anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:15:50):
Keep in mind, it's called a three hundred thousand dollars
Nile package. So I that's what they are claiming is
up for God, not that they won't pay it.
Speaker 6 (01:16:01):
I'm just saying how it gets divided, right.
Speaker 3 (01:16:04):
That's three hundred thousand dollars. I don't know how that
gets divided. I don't know who gets what. But there
you go.
Speaker 6 (01:16:09):
So Cincinnati's in this tournament with an opener on Tuesday.
I mentioned Villanova Tuesday, USC on Tuesday. Sixteen teams total
one week only Vegas on FS one and all night
on the Monday Tuesday games, and then they'll narrow down
the field in the Houston game. We had an early
lead against Tennessee in the Midwest Regional Final of twenty
(01:16:31):
nine to eight late first half. By halftime it was
thirty four to fifteen. There was an incredible stat at
all time in the tournament when a team is down
at the half by nineteen points or more, the all
time record is oh and two forty four. I saw
that yea, including the Vall's loss here sixty nine to fifty.
So Houston goes to San Antonio. The ball season ends
(01:16:54):
with three point shooting today of five for twenty nine,
they shot twenty nine percent from the floor.
Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
Overall, they never got closed. I don't think they even
got within double digits after they got behind so much.
Speaker 6 (01:17:06):
Houston in the regular season only allowed fifty nine points
a game, allowed fifty today. They've won seventeen straight games,
but my goodness, Tennessee from three point range started oh
for fourteen in this one. By the way, the higher
seeded teams went twelve to oh this week for the
first time in these two rounds since the tournament expanded
in nineteen eighty five. And then we had the Auburn
(01:17:27):
game up on Michigan State twenty three to eight. Mid
first half seventy to sixty four. The final Spartans only
shot thirty four percent from the floor. Trey Holloman was
oh of ten shooting off the bench. All four of
the number one seeds are in the Final four. The
only previous time that had happened was two thousand and eight.
Speaker 4 (01:17:45):
So rating should be through the roof then for this
final four.
Speaker 6 (01:17:48):
Well in theory, and we talked about this, you know,
after the first couple of rounds, saying, well, I remember
the nineteen eighty six baseball playoffs where there were no
pennant races because the top team just so dominated. There
were nothing to play for. Nobody was going to catch
first place the last couple of weeks. And then we
got the greatest playoffs we've ever seen between the Mets
and Mookie Wilson and the Houston series before that, and
(01:18:11):
the Angels Red Sox and on and on. So yeah,
we've got the cream of the crops still alive here.
Then the NBA tonight we had a game where twelve
technical fouls were handed out, the most combined tes in
an NBA game in twenty years. This was the game
at Minnesota. The Timberwolves beat Detroit one twenty three one
oh four, and Rudy Gobert in the win, had nineteen
(01:18:33):
points twenty five rebounds, but a fight broke out in
the second quarter. Five players and two coaches total were
kicked out, including Detroit's head coach JB. Bickerstaff, also Minnesota
forward Nas Reed, who was certainly in the middle of
this and pointing fingers, and guard Dante DiVincenzo as.
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
I think he started it.
Speaker 6 (01:18:52):
Yeah, it seemed like although things had been brewing in
this game already.
Speaker 3 (01:18:56):
Three turned the corner behind.
Speaker 6 (01:19:00):
Nazeries with the plotting, oh come on now, shoving, even
Chendo grabs a guy at the baseline.
Speaker 3 (01:19:11):
It's gonna take a lot to break this up.
Speaker 6 (01:19:14):
And I think the commissioner might be looking.
Speaker 2 (01:19:16):
At Stephen Smith and Lebron out there, not just kidding.
Speaker 6 (01:19:20):
As far as Major League Baseball, Kenley Jansen is the
Angels closer, and he gets another save today two and
they beat the White Sox, but it still counts as
a win three to two. Texas had Jacob de Gram,
the former Mets, starting five scoreless innings, six strikeouts, no decision,
but Texas beat Boston three to two, so the Red
Sox not only one in three Ruffael Devers is oh
(01:19:42):
for sixteen at the plate with twelve strikeouts already. Geez,
he's the DH emphasis on the H. There's no hitting
going on at this point. Remember they'd signed a guy
in Alex Bregman who was a third basement. Hey, wait
a minute, Devers has a big contract. He's plays third base. Well,
not anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:20:00):
Good stuff, Steve. When we come back, got a lot
of football to talk about with the quarterback news and
more recaps coming leading into the Final four.
Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
Next, you're listening to Fox Sports.
Speaker 3 (01:20:11):
Radio al troep Company live from the ti rack dot
com studios. Ti rack dot com will help you get
there and unmatched a selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Ti rack
dot com the way tire buying should be.
Speaker 2 (01:20:28):
I have I have a very important question for you,
and let me get out last hour. Okay, I told
you I'm going to the Dominican Republic in May.
Speaker 3 (01:20:37):
Yeah, don't dare I want to get the sponsor rid
in So.
Speaker 2 (01:20:40):
How dare you do that?
Speaker 3 (01:20:41):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:20:41):
And I'm going to one of those all inclusive resorts right?
So like in two in the morning. Can I just
say give me three palmon dinners and spaghetti or.
Speaker 3 (01:20:51):
Something they do shut the kitchen down? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:20:53):
And two do I have to tip?
Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
Do I have to tip?
Speaker 3 (01:20:58):
I would, but I mean I don't think you have to.
Speaker 2 (01:21:02):
Well, I didn't know if I have to, because they
I think tips. And what's it?
Speaker 3 (01:21:05):
Buddy?
Speaker 2 (01:21:05):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:21:05):
First of all, who do you think you're talking to here?
I'm working overnight show on Friday night to try to
make ends meet. I stay up until one am on
Sunday with you. I do ten thousand shows because I
have three kids. You're asking the wrong person for advice
on You should have asked Harmon on Friday night and
one of the weekday guys, I have no freaking idea.
(01:21:26):
I've never been doing all in our liters in my life.
Speaker 4 (01:21:29):
Our listeners.
Speaker 2 (01:21:29):
I'm sure taking a lot of vacations at all inclusive resorts.
I thought I could say so, like, if it's noon,
I could just say, bring me five meet Paul Parms,
let's go, let's do it.
Speaker 3 (01:21:39):
I'm sure you could if it's all inclusive. I think
if I remember from going on my first honeymoon, of
course this was in two thousand. We were just at
a place where it's like, hey, you can have the
Gorilla is open from noon until three, and you can
get whatever you want.
Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
That's what I remember. What about all the booze. All
the booze is free too, right, it is.
Speaker 3 (01:21:58):
But they eventually shut down the bar to go to bed.
Speaker 2 (01:22:00):
I'm sure, come on, give you know, give me, give
me a six pack of beer to take room.
Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
I am, I don't think that's how it works, but again,
I would know. I've never been to an all inclusive thing.
I've just gone on one honeymoon and that's about it.
And then I go to places that poor people go
like me, like Branson on vacation and home to my
parents to take the grand kids.
Speaker 5 (01:22:21):
Like that.
Speaker 3 (01:22:21):
That's what we do when we're poor. Is so good luck.
I'm sure there's a thousand people that can tweet at
you tonight to let you know all these rules. You know.
I understand, I understand that this might be a little
bit weird, but I'm sure there's some sort of pamphlet
or something there where you can read about it instead
of using our show as information gathering.
Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
Well, they say you know that you don't the tips
are included, but I still think you got a tip.
I feel bad even though you're getting everything. It's free
and stuff, but it's so inclusive.
Speaker 3 (01:22:51):
Do you tip on carry out food you got? Do
you even do carry out food? In Vermont?
Speaker 4 (01:22:55):
I do carry out, but I don't tip on carry out.
Speaker 3 (01:22:58):
Oh you're supposed to tip on carry out?
Speaker 2 (01:22:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:22:59):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:23:00):
No, you don't.
Speaker 3 (01:23:01):
Why not they package your food all together for you
make it nice? You don't tip on carry out?
Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:23:06):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:23:06):
Sorry?
Speaker 3 (01:23:06):
Okay? Do you tip like an Uber driver?
Speaker 2 (01:23:09):
I don't do Uber. I have my own car, so
I really don't do Uber.
Speaker 3 (01:23:13):
Okay. Like when you're traveling? What am I saying? You
don't travel anywhere?
Speaker 5 (01:23:16):
Do you?
Speaker 3 (01:23:17):
Does your wife or you do grocery pickup?
Speaker 2 (01:23:20):
No? We don't do that shop I go into the market.
Speaker 3 (01:23:23):
Okay, Well then that's an easy one. So if you
don't tip on carry out, then I don't think you're
probably gonna want to tip in an all inclusive resort either.
But again, what do I know?
Speaker 7 (01:23:33):
What?
Speaker 3 (01:23:33):
Sorry? Mary? Have you been to an all inclusive resort?
Ian sager? Anyone here is? I think he's crowdsourcing the
wrong demographic here. I am not. Yeah, there you go
all right, Mary.
Speaker 2 (01:23:45):
He's a producer. None of the producers probably been to
those inclusives.
Speaker 3 (01:23:48):
I mean, yeah, none of us. I think. Now this
is probably that moment where Mary's like, oh yeah, my
family owned an all inclusive resort and I just slum
with you guys the White Lotus.
Speaker 6 (01:23:58):
Actually she's out delivering papers right now.
Speaker 3 (01:24:02):
Okay, fair enough then, Well, as we're comedy Live for
the Tyrock dot Com studios, I hope you get the
answers you want because I am no help on this.
Speaker 4 (01:24:09):
So, by the way, I do have a topic for you.
I was just thinking about.
Speaker 3 (01:24:11):
This, is it on the Roman numeral rundown?
Speaker 2 (01:24:13):
Because no, I don't have it on the Roman. No,
I don't have the on the room.
Speaker 3 (01:24:16):
But okay, well your choice. Do you want to your
topic or do you want to do tweets?
Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
Well we could do both. Let me just get to
this topic real quick. Was you you bring up how
the NCUBA ratings were the highest, not me bringing that's
that's what they say, and major League Baseball was the
highest ratings for the opening weekend. I guess sports is
back right. There was a time that we were talking
about how bad the ratings were in the NBA and
(01:24:40):
people didn't want to watch anymore in the NHL. But
NFL is up and c double A basketball was up
the first week at MLBA ratings the first weekend, So
maybe people are jumping back aboard. I don't know what
from what from like from the.
Speaker 4 (01:24:57):
NBA, from the NBA where it was down so dramatically.
Speaker 3 (01:25:01):
Have the NBA's ratings magically jumped up or something, because
I don't know about you. We have a joke, by
the way, and this, I guess does kind of tie
into the Roman numeral rundown Roman numeral nine alreadie and
not have a joke. Sometimes it's our show, it might
be others that we're listening to. And I hope you
don't mind me peeling back the curtain here, but we'll say, boy,
these guys are limping to the finish line right now.
(01:25:22):
It's like that last segment where it's like, yeah, man,
we'll have a good week. Yeah you too, And what
about that weather out there? You know where you just
they're fighting to get to the end of the show, right,
and everyone's been there before. Do the NBA is unwatchable
right now outside of the fight tonight, right They're fighting
to get to the finish line. The only team right
now that seems like it's playing hard is the Oklahoma
(01:25:44):
City Thunder. Uh So when when you the ratings, I
don't are the ratings up magically because it well and
Luke and the Lakers have been okay, right, I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:25:53):
Look, would I put a Roman numeral nine the second
nine and then I put the second sub dash? I can't,
It says, crawling to the finish slide is what I wrote.
Speaker 4 (01:26:03):
Crawling to the finish slide is the NBA. You're right,
it's unwatchable right now.
Speaker 2 (01:26:08):
It's eight games left and there's not really a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:26:10):
Of great rate no fights, right exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:26:12):
There's not a lot of great races going on pretty much. Yeah,
there's a little bit of jocking for position, but nothing
that's anything important or anything.
Speaker 3 (01:26:20):
Can the Thunder break the record for the most double
digit wins in a season and they're they're probably going
to base on what their schedule looks like. So yeah,
sure you got to fight between like three, four and
maybe five in the standings in the West.
Speaker 4 (01:26:37):
Nothing it needs towards the end though.
Speaker 3 (01:26:39):
Yeah. The East, I mean, even the playing tournament is
pretty much figured out. But I guess my question to
count of that is, so you're you're considering the NBA
back whenever you talk about is sports back with the
tournament ratings, baseball ratings, it's going to be back.
Speaker 2 (01:26:51):
After these last seven or eight games, because gets the playoffs. Well,
they'll get to the playoffs, pop will be rejuvenated, they'll
get all excited, they'll want to see it in the
first round. Could be the Lakers and the Clippers. Possibly not. No, well,
they're only a couple of games away, so that's a possibility.
Speaker 3 (01:27:08):
Could be Lakers aren't going to be able to get
to the two.
Speaker 4 (01:27:12):
Well, the Clippers could move up. They're only like two
games away.
Speaker 3 (01:27:14):
Oh you know what, that's I'm not even I'm not even. Well,
the Clippers are still in the play in they've got
to get themselves. I guess what up to the five.
Speaker 2 (01:27:23):
Potentially where Memphis is. There are two games behind Memphis.
Speaker 3 (01:27:26):
By the way, Memphis firing its coach.
Speaker 4 (01:27:28):
I don't get that.
Speaker 3 (01:27:29):
Yeah, unless there's something going on behind the scenes that
we don't know. Anyway, back to the point you say,
you say the NBA will be back when we get
to the playoffs, when we get these matchups and the
whole idea that hey, we've made this triumphant return from
kind of the sports abyss right.
Speaker 2 (01:27:47):
Right right, especially after the NCAA ratings were up the
first weekend MLB ratings were up, though there's always see
how MLB will do later on. Maybe it was just
that opening weekend or opening day, excuse me that it
was so you know, so watched. They may just go
back downhill after that.
Speaker 3 (01:28:06):
Do you think the NBA Playoffs are going to be
musk s TV.
Speaker 2 (01:28:12):
I think the first round matchups are gonna be good,
so I think that's gonna help them big time.
Speaker 3 (01:28:17):
Do you think do you think the Final four is
going to be come throughout this week and learning the
storylines musk see TV?
Speaker 2 (01:28:26):
Yes I do, Yes, I kind of do too. You
got four number one seeds. They're gonna be good games.
This is what people want to see the best involved.
So yes, I think that's gonna be must watch TV.
And matter of fact, d'mont after the Final four, so
I'm on that Saturday night.
Speaker 3 (01:28:42):
Look at you.
Speaker 2 (01:28:43):
You get all the fillings, man, I do, I'm hogging
them all up.
Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
Yeah, you got to share some? Well, have you got
to get these all inclusive resorts. Meanwhile, some of us
are taking vacation to, like, I don't know, Beaumont, but yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (01:28:55):
Guess you could say I dated a girl from Beaumont, Texas.
Speaker 3 (01:28:58):
Pull that out of my backside, but I guess you
could say that. But I never really thought sports wasn't
back like and I kind of get what you're saying.
The tournament ratings. I kind of try to stop basing
everything on ratings, right. The only reason I've kind of
bring it up in the NCAA tournament is because I'm surprised,
as everyone was, to see where they were after the
(01:29:20):
first round in the first two days and how much
it sucked.
Speaker 2 (01:29:24):
Do you think baseball that opening day had helped them
in the ratings because it was on the Thursday of
the NCAA tournament or.
Speaker 3 (01:29:32):
Maybe? So that's a fair question. I mean, maybe so,
but I would I would also add, you know, it's
it's wild because through all of this conversation, now you're talking, hey,
tournament final four, NBA head to the postseason, early baseball,
there's there's still this part of me Arnie and we
talked about this on Friday night, that is just infatuated
with what's going on in the NFL's offseason, and we
(01:29:56):
have absolutely had a dead period. But I can't get
enough of Aaron Rodgers. How terrible. Bless your heart, Mike Florio.
Mike Florio has been in reporting what's going on with
Aaron Rodgers. I mean, my gosh, does anyone having I
wonder what.
Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
I wouldn't say Thomas.
Speaker 3 (01:30:10):
I have no idea.
Speaker 2 (01:30:11):
Yeah, I have no idea what he's thinking and what
he's thinking and how he's going to make the decision
and what he's going to make the decision. So he's
up in the air, just like everybody else if he's
telling the truth.
Speaker 3 (01:30:19):
But what's funny is you talk about all those things
and I'm interested in them and I'm gonna watch. But yet,
like the hottest thing in my mind and the thing
I want to talk about the most is still football.
Is that crazy or what?
Speaker 2 (01:30:29):
No, the draft is going to be ratings are through
the roof. What did you what did the sigarettes said
they got last year?
Speaker 4 (01:30:34):
Like ten million or.
Speaker 2 (01:30:35):
Something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:30:36):
It's pretty ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (01:30:37):
Yeah, it will be through the roof this year because
of all the intrigue on top of the draft.
Speaker 3 (01:30:42):
This was interesting too, and I was I was digging
for this because just one final thought on ratings and uh,
then we'll get to your tweets and Arnie's picks are
around the corner and the some of the big moments today.
CBS hadn't aired and hasn't aired a Major League Baseball
game since ninety three. In fact, I forgot CBS ever
aired baseball. But apparently it sent a reporter for its
(01:31:05):
morning showed opening Day in Chicago. But they didn't send
them to cover the Cubs. They send them to cover
the White Sox. So I don't know, you know, network's
news shows, they're not like bound to cover properties. But
when Sports Media Watch tweeted that, I don't know why
Arnie I found that interesting. I mean, is there is
(01:31:26):
it just them saying, hey, guys, we got a segment
we gotta fill. Well, someone go out there and cover
the baseball game, you know. I but it's a national
show so they don't have to. But I'm just I'm
I'm curious, is to kind of maybe maybe there's there's
a little bit more juice. Maybe the Dodgers and what
they've done hasn't been so bad because it's brought more
eyes to baseball. I mean, and that might be a
reach that just that might be a somebody.
Speaker 2 (01:31:47):
We're gonna cover the Angels instead of the Dodgers, how
about that?
Speaker 3 (01:31:51):
Yeah? True, true, true, But just to cover it in
general when you never do, like I don't watch any
of these morning shows. Whenever I was a kid. My
mom used to watch them whenever I was like getting
for school, and she'd watch the Today Show every day,
and it was The Today Show with like Bright Gumbel.
You know, that's that's how long it's been since I
watched these shows. But they've never been like bastions for
sports news.
Speaker 2 (01:32:10):
Right, No, not at all. I can't remember. I don't
remember sports in the morning at all, to be honest with.
Speaker 3 (01:32:15):
You, Yeah, unreal. Well, you know, it's interesting because we
talked about the numbers. It's still wild to think that
the NCAA tournament, for all the dumping that we've done
on it, the first two rounds are the most watched
since ninety three. Now there's the caveats that's been out
out of home viewing, it's probably an eight year high,
but it's still strong in this TV environment to say
(01:32:38):
that you've had the most watched since nineteen ninety three.
Speaker 4 (01:32:41):
But baseball surprised me.
Speaker 2 (01:32:42):
But considering that like eight of the game started at
four or five Eastern, wouldn't that have hurt the ratings?
But so many games started at the same time, or
that doesn't make a difference.
Speaker 3 (01:32:52):
I don't know. I don't think it makes a difference. Okay,
but whenever you told me that they were up, that
the numbers were up for opening Day, that's the first
time that I had heard about the numbers being up
from Major League Baseball. I honestly, I didn't even really
dug into it too terribly much at all. I saw
that note about the Chicago Reporter. Maybe it's infatuation with
the Dodgers. Maybe it's just hey, it's baseball, and I
(01:33:13):
mean summertimes around the corner. I don't know, but that
makes me feel really good that it's up right.
Speaker 2 (01:33:18):
Oh, I absolutely agree. I mean, I didn't think it
was going to be down or anythink. I I think
people are excited about the Dodgers and see how far
they can go. I know it's a long season, but sure,
I mean they could they could really go after what
is at the one sixteen and that that's gonna be
something people gonna want to keep an eye on.
Speaker 6 (01:33:34):
And as far as the ratings, guys, it was a
Yankee and then Dodger game cable double header on Fantasy
the openers, and it was opposite the other games. There
were a lot of other day openers in your.
Speaker 4 (01:33:44):
Yeakee gamers at noon no noon Easter.
Speaker 6 (01:33:46):
Only an hour before most of the other first pitches nationwide.
Speaker 2 (01:33:50):
But that's still early, well on the West Coast. But
it doesn't make a difference, I guess.
Speaker 6 (01:33:54):
But it those two averaged one point nine million viewers,
which makes it the best opening days since twenty eighteen
when it was Dodgers Giants.
Speaker 3 (01:34:03):
There you gom, I think it's all about the Dodgers,
all right, to the tweet Charles Wrights. In regard to
the NBA ratings, there was a point many years ago
when the NBA sucked when they were in the one
and done draft era. Then they turned to European players. Lately,
we're all turned off by excessive three point shots and
no defense. Heck, looked tonight several teams scored one hundred
(01:34:24):
and forty points. See that's it. We're crawling, We're limping
to the finish line. It's what's going on here, Charles?
Speaker 2 (01:34:29):
What is what's worse though? The one hundred and forty
points or back when we used to watch the bulls
in the Knicks.
Speaker 4 (01:34:35):
Win eighty three seventy nine though, Chris that.
Speaker 2 (01:34:37):
That couldn't have been too enjoyable.
Speaker 3 (01:34:40):
WHOA look at you actually complaining about old school basketball
for each.
Speaker 2 (01:34:44):
What I mean you meet to you, seriously, that's like
half the score. Would you rather have one thirty to
one forty or eighty three seventy nine? Which would you
run and some tough play and physical play and some
pushing and shoving.
Speaker 3 (01:34:58):
Well, the problem is none of those one forty games
were one forty to one thirty. It was like, let's
see one forty five to one twenty four. There was
one forty eight to one oh six tonight, and there
was one forty eight to one oh nine. Either the
Rockets and the Warriors basically put the Spurs and the
(01:35:19):
Suns in a body bag, right. I guess you could
say the Hawks and the Bucks were fairly competitive, But
I like, I'm like you. I liked it when it
was a little bit more physical. I didn't need everyone
jacking up jumpers as soon as they got across the
half court line, called.
Speaker 2 (01:35:30):
Me a defense to play some defense. When you got
a team score one hundred and forty points, you're playing
no defense whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (01:35:37):
Zero h russive is the goat rights. I would rather
smoke weed with Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg for forty
eight straight hours and watch any of this year's March
Madness games period. Why might you do both? I mean,
that's not a bad thing. I don't know why. I
guess maybe your point is that you wouldn't be on
this planet if you tried to hang with William Snoop
for forty hours.
Speaker 2 (01:35:58):
Remember when I told you once they made make that
TV show about me, and I'd become rich and famous
and I'll have famous friends, I said.
Speaker 4 (01:36:05):
Snoop Dogg would probably be one of my buddies.
Speaker 3 (01:36:07):
There you go. I can't wait for it. He would
not be like literally within three feet a year.
Speaker 2 (01:36:11):
Oh, I could see him calling me up, going, hey, dude,
come on over watching games?
Speaker 7 (01:36:17):
Thank you?
Speaker 3 (01:36:17):
Thinking that Snoop Dogg is gonna.
Speaker 2 (01:36:18):
Say, dude, Colin writ it's fun show.
Speaker 3 (01:36:22):
But guys, this is no longer the NFL offseason. This
is the NFL in a darkness retreat. I might as
well go watch the snow melt off the Alberta Rockies.
Let me tell you this, Colin. When we come back
to the Ti rack dot com studios, just for you,
I have the week that was in quarterback Rumors because
it was wild, and a couple of other NFL nuggets
(01:36:45):
leading into the draft. I'm gonna call me see here,
how many Roman numerals did you have on the rundown tonight?
Speaker 2 (01:36:50):
I added a couple, so I have like fourteen or fifteen.
Speaker 3 (01:36:52):
Well, okay, of course you added those and then sent
him to me, So I'll go. I'll go Roman numeral seventeen.
How's that. I'll add my own okay, planks football notes
to make Colin happy. Just label it that and we'll
dive into it next on Fox Sports Radio. There you go,
There you go, Arnie, your boy. You can be hanging
(01:37:12):
out with Snooping Dre whenever song this is? I know
what Snoop? What is it? What song is this?
Speaker 4 (01:37:19):
I have no idea?
Speaker 3 (01:37:23):
Come on, man, this is whenever I was. This was
when I was what is a yo? Yo?
Speaker 2 (01:37:27):
Come on over man, we're smoking up watching the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (01:37:32):
Smoking up. Mary that's what they're gonna do. Smake, what
the heck? Uh we are officially well, let me give this, uh,
let me give this in here, because I do want
to remind people, even THO we're gonna talk some NFL here,
uh NCAA tournament in full swing. We're down to the
final four. Arnie and I think are the mix to
potentially win this. I don't know if we can catch
Gottlieb or not. As far as the show is concerned.
(01:37:52):
You put Arnie Steves in my bracket and there we
are dominating. So go check those out, and Tractor Supply

Speaker 2 (01:38:33):
The center just copied my picks. He just verbat him.
He just took all my picks. I did the same
thing too, and I'm ahead of you. Look at that
and it means the sega exactly tied. So he took
my picks there, and he has Duke beating Florida, So
I'll in up beating him.
Speaker 3 (01:38:48):
Why cause who do you have winning it? I have
Duke beating Auburn. So you got you got Auburn beating Florida. Yes,
would you change that today if you could?
Speaker 2 (01:38:59):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (01:39:00):
One hundred twenty four days, eighteen hours, thirty two minutes,
and fifty four seconds to the first round of the
NFL Draft. And I don't know draft implications wise. This
week you had cam Ward's pro day. I feel like
he pretty much locked himself in as the top overall pick,
unless oh, I don't know, dude, unless there is something
(01:39:21):
crazy that's gonna happen involving a trade or something of
that nature.
Speaker 2 (01:39:24):
Is there going to be a trade? Do you think
they'll get enough? They'll get a king ransom former.
Speaker 3 (01:39:28):
I was posing this theory on Friday night into Saturday
morning on Fox Sports Radio, and I want to get
your take on it. I feel like something big is
about to happen, and I don't know what it is.
I don't know if it's someone moving up to one
or two. I don't know if it's a And again
we found out, unfortunately that the juicy nature of the
(01:39:50):
Dak Prescott Brown's rim or was kind of kind of bs.
As you like to say, Arnie, whenever you tweet me
fake news like your football coach getting uh, you like say, well,
wouldn't it be cool if it was real? Like, yes,
it would happen. It's not. By the way, I gotta
play that clip for you if there's time before we
get out. That guy's report is so funny how he ends.
(01:40:11):
It's like, I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but if
it does, remember where you heard it first. I was like, Arnie,
is that an Arnie report right there? What kind of
report is? So I'm hearing they could be going after
Dak Prescott from a lot of people to front office.
Not gonna happen, but if it does, I'm not saying
it's gonna happen. But you heard it, like what anyway,
(01:40:33):
I just I get this feel whether it's an unknown
team making a push for Aaron Rodgers. You know, I'm
kind of looking at San Francisco right now because nothing
seems to be going on with Brockberty's extension.
Speaker 2 (01:40:46):
Isn't it. When I thought when you said there's gonna
be something big that it was gonna involve the number
one pick in that ten maybe so was gonna sign
a veteran quarterback and ended up trading that number one
pick and getting a king's ransom so they can go
ahead and rebuild their team.
Speaker 3 (01:40:58):
I don't know that anyone's willing to give up the
Kings a ransom to move up to one right now.
I think that's the problem because if they if they were,
and you're having a hard time deciding if you want
cam Ward or Travis Hunter or Abdull Carter or Mason
Graham or throw Shador in there, then you might, you know,
(01:41:21):
you might do it. But I think if there was
someone offering a king's ransom, there's a part of me
that thinks it'd already be done. I just think they're
trying to decide if what might be offered out there
is worth it, because I think the only team right
now that could look at saying hey, we got to
move up there might be out of the Giants at three.
I know they just brought in two quarterbacks. But you're
(01:41:41):
trying to tell me Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on
the answer, maybe the Saints at nine. Now, if you're
moving up from nine to one, then you're gonna have
to give up King's ransom.
Speaker 2 (01:41:50):
Well, you have to give up stuff for next year
in the following year too.
Speaker 3 (01:41:53):
There's not enough by them. Yeah, it might it might
be the draft. It might not be the draft. It
might be a quarter back moves somewhere and might not
be about that. There's something in my mind that says
there is a big hammer that's about the fall that's
gonna shake up the NFL off.
Speaker 2 (01:42:08):
What is all these rumors about Milroe? What's going on there?
Because what the Patriots like him or I forget who
said they loved him? And I'm like, wow's he moving
up so quick?
Speaker 3 (01:42:18):
I think I saw the Steelers. Aren't he Steelers?
Speaker 2 (01:42:20):
That what it was?
Speaker 3 (01:42:21):
Pittsburgh? Okay, Yeah, they met with him, they spent some
time with him. Well, because He's a freak. That's why
he is Anthony Richardson, only with more college success. And
he's a little bit if listen, what do they have
They have him listed at sixteen.
Speaker 2 (01:42:35):
I remember towards the end of the year, he had
a game so bad. I said to you, well, at
least we know one thing. He won't go pro. He
needs another year of college or something.
Speaker 3 (01:42:43):
You don't well every single I mean again, I'm not
just comparing him to Anthony Richardson because they're athletic freaks.
But Kim Ward had some pretty bad college games too.
Jackson Dart had some awful college games. But yet you
know they're in the conversation of being an NFL quarterback
because they've got these traits that are unbelievable. The Raiders
(01:43:03):
had to sit down with Jaln Milroe this week. I
don't think he's gonna go in the first round.
Speaker 4 (01:43:08):
No, I was gonna say not for the first round
what you're talking about.
Speaker 3 (01:43:10):
But I do think that there could be To me,
if there's three quarterbacks that go in the first round,
the third one is gonna be Jalen Milroe. I don't
think it's gonna be Jackson Darky I don't think it's
gonna be quinn yours.
Speaker 2 (01:43:21):
Let me ask you a question. If you're like, see,
it's hard for me to say this because you're picking
at number six and you get a value of Shadria
Sander's phone in your lap. But if you were at
number three, would you rather get like a Sanders or
a Ward or trade on down? Or would you rather
get Award or trade on down toward the end of
(01:43:41):
the first round and get like a mill Row and
get like a bunch of extra picks.
Speaker 3 (01:43:46):
Okay, when you keep saying a bunch of extra picks,
I think you watched the movie Draft Day too me time,
or you're trying to remember say Ricky the Redskins or
the Ricky Williams trade. Probably not looking at anything more
than like two picks if you're trading down like that.
So your idea is, would you rather take Ward at
(01:44:06):
one and just be set there or trade out and
then try to get back into the first try to
get another quarterback? Is that kind of theory?
Speaker 2 (01:44:14):
Get mill Row? I guess that's the name that I
keep hearing is climbing up the chart. So would you
rather get him? And you're a couple of extra picks
or whatever you get for the trading on down.
Speaker 3 (01:44:23):
Maybe I tend to think if you've got a chance
to take cam Ward, you take him. I think he's
the number one pick in this If you want a quarterback,
he's the number one guy in this draft. And I
think it's not even close.
Speaker 2 (01:44:33):
I mean, every time we talk about that Detroit trade,
the Lions trade and what they got, and it's like,
they got this guy, and they got this guy and
they got this guy, I'm like, man, what a great
trade they pulled off a couple of years ago.
Speaker 3 (01:44:47):
Well, but I mean they also got they got dudes,
they got Jared Goff. They gave up Matthew Stafford for it.
I mean, yeah, they got let's see, what was the
total number of picks then? He was like four four
right right? Yeah? The deal what Stafford ran for Jared
Goff and two first round picks and a third rounder,
But that also involved the franchise quarterback that was leaving.
I mean, the Titans don't have anything there. They're I
(01:45:09):
don't think anyone looks at this number one pick like
it's Matt Stafford. Right now, you draft cam Ward and
I think it could be I'll tell you what. Yeah,
Ashton Gent's impressed me so much, and I know everyone's
like you dogging on the Penn State game. I'm gonna
have a hard time seeing him get out of the
top ten. Man. He's well.
Speaker 4 (01:45:29):
I never I never, never thought he was going to
drop down past ten.
Speaker 3 (01:45:32):
I Chris, I don't think I really think.
Speaker 2 (01:45:36):
He's I agree with you one hundred. I think your
raiders will snatch him up if somebody doesn't trade up
and get him.
Speaker 3 (01:45:41):
But this week was crazy, and I noticed Seger's upset
is looming. But we had the Browns rumors right with that,
that BS Dak rumor. And then you have the Kirk
Cousins being spotted at Chipotle or was it Chipotle or
Qutoba Chipotle. I think it was Chipotle just outside of Cleveland.
Speaker 6 (01:45:58):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:45:58):
Then he was at a barbecue play in Ohio. Then
you had Russell Wilson signed with the Giants, which make
sure you want to what they're doing. Then JJ McCarthy
did an interview in like the middle of a field
with something called Viking Central, which confused the hell out
of me, where he said that they haven't told him
that he's the starting quarterback yet, And then the Vikings
(01:46:18):
GM had a press conference where he kind of danced
around the Aaron Rodgers interest. Then you had Rock Perdy
do a podcast with like Duck Dynasty guys or something.
I mean, too many people have podcasts. I don't know
what's going on. And then you had Cam Wartz Pro Day.
Then you had Deon Sanders stepping out and saying, I
know who wants shador Oh. And by the way, then
(01:46:39):
you still have the mystery of what's going on with
Aaron Rodgers. We have no clue right now, aren't It
was a hard week to figure out what's really going
on with quarterbacks that are still available out there right.
Speaker 2 (01:46:49):
I'm waiting for the whole air. I'm waiting to see
how long it's going to take for the whole Aaron
Rodgers thing. I wonder if it's gonna happen before the draft. Now,
I thought for sure was gonna happen before the draft. No,
I'm now I'm not so sure that that's still going
to be the time frame on that.
Speaker 3 (01:47:03):
When we come back to the tyrack dot Com studio,
straight to your tweets next. But first, Steve Seger is
in the house with a final look at what's trending,
what's going on Steve.
Speaker 6 (01:47:12):
Regarding the Boise State running back Ashton genty, let's not
forget he had the game at Oregon last September twenty
five carries one hundred and ninety two yards rushing three touchdowns.
This is at Oregon, and they led in the fourth quarter,
and they only lost because they gave up a kick
return for a touchdown to tie, and Oregon kicked a
(01:47:34):
field goal on the final play to win. My NFL
note for tonight is that the annual league meeting started
today in Florida. It goes through April the second. By
the way, the NFL Draft in Green Bay this year
is less than a month away. But there is a
note from the Sports Business Journal that owners will be
asked to vote tomorrow on a measure regarding Thursday night
(01:47:55):
football flex scheduling. We talked about this during last season,
that they actually used it last December to flex out
a Browns game, and there was when there was debate
about this among owners a couple of years ago, some
saying this is not fair to ticket holders and you know,
to switch games off a Thursday. I would add it
wasn't fair to the ticket holders who originally bought a
(01:48:17):
Sunday football ticket and then find out during the season, Hey,
by the way, your game's now on a Thursday, Broncos
at Chargers. And on top of that, you're going to
have to get to the stadium before five o'clock on
a Thursday at a stadium that's next to the LA
Freeways and the airport.
Speaker 4 (01:48:36):
Aside from it, like a u problem is what it does.
Speaker 3 (01:48:38):
Sounds like that that's.
Speaker 6 (01:48:39):
Exactly what it is from the NFL perspective, because the
NFL is a TV show and they could care less
about their ticket holders. So all that they're talking about,
and granted it's not like one or two weeks notice.
It was four weeks notice to switch the Thursday night schedule.
But what they'd be voting on this week again, according
to Sports Business Journal, is switching a game only twenty
one days out instead of the current twenty eight days.
(01:49:02):
So we're getting worse in that regard. Meanwhile, the Spring
Football League has started. It began Friday night on Fox.
There were a couple of games in the UFL today.
Michigan wins at Memphis, DC defeated Birmingham. The attendance average
for the weekend eight thousand Vermonto. They're not in the
America East. Football came run about eighty five hundred for
(01:49:24):
the average attendance for the four games. Denny Hamblin, the
NASCAR winner at Martinsville, minwoo Lee won the golf in
Houston by one stroke, or about a week and a
half away from the Masters. Novak Djokovic was beaten in
the Miami Open tennis final. After a five and a
half hour rain delay at the start, it turned out
to be an evening match and he was beaten by
unseated nineteen year old Yakou mensik Okay. In the NHL,
(01:49:49):
the late game went to the La Kings by final
of eight one over the San Jose Sharks. Toronto won
three two at Anaheim, and Buffalo won eighty five at Washington.
Alex Ovechkin of the Caps career goal number eight ninety.
The two men's basketball winners today onto the final four
for Auburn and Houston. Auburn won the South Region final,
(01:50:10):
beating Michigan State, which shot thirty four percent from the
floor seventy to sixty four to the final. All American.
Jeni Broom twenty five points fourteen rebounds Tigers with a
seventeen to ozer run in the first half when Michigan
State missed ten straight shots. And one seed in the Midwest,
Houston won its regional final over Tennessee sixty nine to fifty.
It was a Cougar's lead of twenty nine to eight
(01:50:31):
late in the first half. The ball shot twenty nine
percent from the floor overall, so Houston goes to San Antonio,
joining Florida and Duke that got wins on Saturday. In fact,
the Florida game is first this Saturday, six pm Eastern time,
All SEC matchup Gators against Auburn Dukes. In the late
game against Houston, Villanova's new head coach Kevin Willard from Maryland.
(01:50:55):
The women's regional finals started today. One seed South Carolina
edged Duke fifty four fifty, so South Carolina is into
the women's Final four for the fifth straight year. UCLA
eliminated LSU seventy two to sixty five. UCLA has not
won a title in women's basketball since nineteen seventy eight.
In other words, before it was even sponsored by the NCAA.
(01:51:17):
That didn't start. Did you realize this until the early eighties.
So when Wow Anne Meyers won a title playing for
UCLA that was not an NCAA sanctioned tournament.
Speaker 4 (01:51:26):
Mookie's sister had a big game today, didn't she.
Speaker 6 (01:51:29):
That's right, Lorn Betts, Lauren Betts, Mookie's sister. Yeah, she's
only about a foot taller than be two more games
on Monday night, you mentioned the blowout wins in the
NBA team scoring close to one hundred and fifty points.
That is Golden State winning at San Antonio, Atlanta winning
at Milwaukee, Trey Young nineteen assists, and Houston won the
late game at Phoenix. Kevin Durant to the Suns left
(01:51:50):
after rolling at Ankle There is an undefeated team in
San Diego early season in Major League Baseball. Tonight, the
Padres beat the Braves again five nothing. Braves offense went
one for twenty six wins for Arizona and Seattle Yankees
three and oh after beating Milwaukee twelve three Aaron Judge
his fourth home run, and Saint Louis three and oh
after beating Minnesota nine to two. By the way, Max
(01:52:13):
Schur's are on the injured list already after his Blue
Jay's debut yesterday.
Speaker 3 (01:52:17):
Bet you have a great week. Steve Gray, Steve Steve

tweets or anything else you want to get to, Let's
get it.
Speaker 2 (01:52:55):
Let's get to some time at.
Speaker 3 (01:52:56):
Stink and Genial, at Stinking Genius one at Plank Show.
Everyone go follow us at Fox Sports Radio. Let's see
where do we want to start? How about this one,
Griddles make Blackout. We were talking about the NCAA tournament,
which again we really didn't disagree on. Arnie just cares
about two things, Cinderella's and Buzzer buzzer beaters. And my
(01:53:17):
point is I think people are watching from when that
and the ratings are as high as they've ever been.
Griddles Rights, I agree with you both. I watched beginning
to end hoping for good games and mostly was disappointed.
We'll see about the ratings next year. So in other words,
your point is you don't know there's not gonna be
buzzer beaters when you start watching it. Correct. The point
is if it's bad games, you just tune it off anyways,
(01:53:38):
and that kind of the thing that we talk about
a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:53:41):
Well, but just still watching as you have your brackets.
You want to make sure the team wins and you're advancing,
and you know you're keeping an eye on that, and
people do have bets and that's gonna, you know, keep
you live betting too, So that's gonna keep you to
the end of the game.
Speaker 3 (01:53:54):
I don't I think the people don't live bets is
not a percentage that can drive TV ratings.
Speaker 2 (01:53:59):
Yet I was about the I think live betting is
going to help ratings, you know, when games are blowouts
and the game.
Speaker 3 (01:54:05):
I think, so there's just it's getting there. More states happen.
I mean, how many sports. Do you have legalized sports
wagering in right now? Do you know off the top
of your head, I want to.
Speaker 4 (01:54:13):
Say at least thirty five to forty.
Speaker 3 (01:54:15):
Maybe let's see here at twenty thirty eight states?
Speaker 2 (01:54:18):
Okay, close and uh and.
Speaker 3 (01:54:20):
Washington, d C. So you know, I think as that
grows and you start getting a little bit more like
is it can you it's not legal in California yet? Right,
it's not. Unfortunately, now you get California in there, you
start getting and I don't know if you ever will
get California there with the I mean they don't bet.
Speaker 2 (01:54:37):
Though, doesn't mean they don't bet even just because it's
not legal.
Speaker 3 (01:54:40):
Well, there's loopholes and you got prize paid. Okay, stop
stop you're going to try to tell me now illegal
gambling is going to be able to drive TV ratings.
Speaker 2 (01:54:48):
You're still able to sign up for an account, right,
you know you're not. You can get an account, you
can get off shore account.
Speaker 3 (01:54:57):
Is it driving TV ratings? You think people that have
an offshore account, you would trust an offshore account.
Speaker 2 (01:55:05):
Live betting is going to go ahead and maybe drive
TV ratings.
Speaker 3 (01:55:08):
I agree, But if you're going to try to tell
me that would you trust having an offshore account right now? Yeah?
Why not?
Speaker 2 (01:55:16):
Those those things are trustworthy, aren't they?
Speaker 3 (01:55:19):
Moving on a couple of other tweets, my point to
you is, I don't think yet that gambling is driving
TV ratings, right. I don't think that's something to where
live betting is keeping people around to the massive numbers
who will affect TV ratings at time? Will it? Sure?
But I guess Arenie and his pirate account offshore, and
(01:55:41):
I guess everyone just because it's legal and Verma, well,
you gotta have an account, can you sure? I can
have my account, but I can't do anything with it.
I got to drive into a state where gambling is legal. LJ.
Don't look now. The Patriots are moving up the ladder
in the AFC East, the divide they owned for most
of the last thirty years. They have had a much
(01:56:02):
better off season than the Dolphins and will soon supplant
them as the division's second best, and then the Bills
will be next.
Speaker 2 (01:56:10):
You know, I keep telling you the Dolphins didn't have
to do a whole lot in the off season. That's
why they probably didn't make a lot of moves. I've
been seeing a lot of Patriot fans out of the
here in the Northeast, thinking that they're looking good and
they're ready for a big year this year. It's gonna
be funny to see what happens there.
Speaker 3 (01:56:24):
Well, what if they've hit some home runs here? I
kind of like what they've done this offseason so far
and what they might do in the draft. I mean,
in a matter, you gotta go do it on the field.
But isn't there a part of you that looks at
it says, oh no, what's going on here?
Speaker 4 (01:56:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:56:40):
What do they have?
Speaker 2 (01:56:41):
The number four pick? Is that where they're picking at?
Speaker 3 (01:56:43):
They're picking number four?
Speaker 2 (01:56:44):
But I bet you they if anything happens, I bet
you they trade down to go ahead and get more
valued picks.
Speaker 3 (01:56:49):
Again, I don't know if there's many people that are
fighting in scratching and clawing to trade up. But with
that in mind, I didn't realize we hadn't taken our
last break yet. So let's do it when we come back.
Harney's pay, We'll take us home. On Fox Sports Radio.
All right, thanks Mary, Matt, great job tonight. Awesome Ian
Roddy on the rundown and getting his top firm and
(01:57:11):
Steve di Sega amazing on updates, and as always, the
millions and millions of editors working tirelessly behind the scenes.
I think it's tireless le behind the scenes to bring
a great audio. All right, it is that time. We're
cutting it close. Arnie Spanier, you got a Final four
to pick by this time. Next Sunday night, we'll have
a National championship game. Take it away. Where are you
(01:57:32):
going with your picks this week?
Speaker 2 (01:57:34):
Let's get at it. I'm gonna keep it pretty simple.
We're just gonna look at the NCAA tournament. What's gonna
go on a baseball? What am I gonna start picking it?
We got one hundred and fifty nine more games to go.
I don't need to go ahead and start jumping on
baseball right now.
Speaker 6 (01:57:47):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:57:48):
Like I said, Final four, I'll be on the air
Saturday night when the games are done with Jason Martin.
As I sit in Fair and Torres, I gotta take
four to minus the two and a half, especially with
the injuries to Harborn, and I think I've got to
take the under one sixty and a half. Little too
many points there, I think, you know, you go through
one of those stretches where there's you know, you don't
(01:58:08):
have a bucket in like.
Speaker 4 (01:58:09):
Four minutes and it just kills the over.
Speaker 2 (01:58:11):
So give me Florida minus two and a half the
under one sixty and a half. I love Duke minus
four and a half against Houston. All due respect to
Kelvin Samson. I think he's a great coach, but Duke
is just too loaded. I'm gonna go with Duke and
lay the four and a half. And this is what
I'm gonna go over over one thirty six and a
(01:58:34):
half because I think Houston's gonna be behind by so
much they're gonna push it up a little bit. Uh,
try to get some easy buckets that will create easy
buckets for Duke. So I like the over one thirty
six and a half. There you have my picks. Do
with them as the please no longer strictly for entertainment
purposes only.
Speaker 3 (01:58:52):
You know you're gonna have to start finding some stuff
the wig drawn and baseball because that's all you're gonna have.
And on the NBA playoffs, I guess.
Speaker 4 (01:59:00):
Yeah, exactly. You got that going you about three weeks.
Speaker 3 (01:59:03):
You are slam Duncan here a Duke National Championship.
Speaker 2 (01:59:07):
Absolutely Duke winning the whole thing, the whole kitten kaboodle,
and they will cut down the nets. Congratulations to John Shire.
Speaker 3 (01:59:17):
What they call him White Michael was at the nickname
that we learned from Pat Beverly last week. That Shire
apparently was incredible. I don't remember him as a player,
and it wasn't too terribly long ago, do you.
Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
I'm a player for Duke, of course, I absolutely do remember.
He was like a twelve point of scorer a game.
I believe something around there.
Speaker 3 (01:59:35):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:59:37):
I think he was a great player in high school.
I think North Northbrook, Glenbrook north Or.
Speaker 3 (01:59:42):
He got hoped in the eye and kind of ruined
his growth. He got injured.
Speaker 4 (01:59:47):
So it was a great score, great school.
Speaker 3 (01:59:49):
Yeah, eighteen points per game his senior season with the
Duke Blue Devils. And now congratulations because apparently Duke's gonna
win the national championship. Now, don't even have to watch,
it's all finished.
Speaker 2 (02:00:01):
Saved yourself some time.
Speaker 3 (02:00:02):
All right, So you're gonna be in on Saturday night.
That'll be Arnie and Jason Martin when the Final Four
is going on. Big Ben Mallor is coming up next.
Don't forget there's more going on than just the NCAA
Final four this week, because I think at some point
we're gonna get some news on Aaron Rodgers. We shall see.
I have great weeks thinking genius for the crew. I'm
Chris Plank. Big Ben is next on Fox
