Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listenin no Fox Sports Radio Radio. Let's go, man,
let's go on a Friday night into a Saturday morning.
Welcome into the Plank Show. Maybe we should just call
it the show because it's more than me. Breeze here,
Mark's here, I'm here, y'all are here, and as always,
on this glorious, glorious evening, we're coming to he alive

(00:24):
from the tire rack dot Com studios tire rack dot com.
We'll help you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tire rack dot com the way tirebind should be. Now,
I just I wanted to point this out. I have
let's say, one, two, four major stories I want to try.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
To hit here in the open. Okay, four major stories.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
But I'd be remissed if I didn't mention that when
the show Rundown was sit out for those that aren't familiar. Uh, Brianna,
whenever she puts this one, she produces this show whenever
she grinds and making sure that because I think, did
we get confirmed? Are we having a guest tonight? In
our final segment? Bree we are.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
A very very special guest.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Okay, okay, we got to keep it a surprise though.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Can't tell anyone, but whenever you sent out the rundown
for the show tonight, in addition to all of our
sponsor mentions and all of the stories we're getting into,
I noticed that the email said happy Derek Carr is
done day, which is almost for those that don't know,
Brionnamurou is a die hard, tried and true New Orleans

(01:36):
Saints fan. Correct, very true, very true. Today's celibratory day,
because it looks like for her that to pardon a phrase,
and I guess we didn't really get in Wicked, but
you got in the original before we got the h

(01:57):
the backstory, the genesis, ding dong, the witches dead right,
you gotta. I mean, so many angles to this, so
many questions that we have. It became I mean, Brie,
outside of the match, if you're not a golf guy
or gal, and I'm not a I love playing golf.
One of my best friends took this week off for

(02:17):
our Thursday and Friday off work so we can sit
at home and just watch the Masters. I don't think
that's ever gonna be me. I don't think that's ever
gonna be. I like watching it. I think I've made
it very clear here on this program that the final
couple weeks of the NBA season have been like pulling
an anchor to get to the playoffs, though it gave
us a couple of highlights. This week, we have our

(02:40):
first holdout in college football. Haven't had that yet. So
you have all these other stories, but this Derek Carr story,
bri it became the biggest story because we've been so
thirsty for any NFL news and any kind of change
in how we perceive which direction the draft is going. Right,
so we finally got it. You got some news that

(03:00):
was fresh, and I guess in a lot of ways
what shocking were was this rumored amongst the Saint fans,
had this been talked about, or was this clearly out
of left field?

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Totally out of left field. I think everybody was thinking
that the team has obviously known about the injury, but
like the news and like fans in the media, did
not know about the injustry or injury.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
And just so we're clear, I am an unabashed Derek
Carr apologist, Brie is a It's one of the few
areas that we clash on though. I would completely get
it man if I was the Saints fan seeing the
production and the injuries. I mean, Derek Carr was not
an injury prone quarterback with the Raiders and he gets
to New Orleans. Now, maybe part of that is alliance

(03:43):
not rooming only great in New Orleans. But it's almost as.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
If he gets sneezed on now and the dude goes down.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Weird.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Weird for a guy that had been so durable.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
So I've got a theory for you later on in
the show because number one adjacents that brought this up.
I heard it on the McShay Show with Todd mcshae today.
I don't think the quarterback that everyone's talking about being

(04:11):
the second quarterback drafted in this draft should or Sanders,
would be the direction that New Orleans would go.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
I also am not ruling out a veterans.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
So let's get through all these other things, and then
what do you say we carve out some time in
our next segment, Brie, to really dive into cargate. I
guess maybe is one way to put it. This glorious day,
whichever way you want to phrase it, right, I think
it's for most Saint fans a good day. I think

(04:41):
for maybe SAT fans, a good day. I think for
the Saints front office. They're a little bit frustrated by
this because New Orleans hasn't been acting like a team
that's rebuilding this offseason, right b. I mean, they're not there,
should trade a lot of this, should get all these picks. No, No,
they're going about it like a team that feels like
they can still win, right yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Which makes like no sense, but I mean, and that's
what it's just like. Okay, well, I guess everyone's just
like looking at the draft now, and that's just what
everybody's just looking to.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Yeah, well, I've got some stuff for you coming up
here in just a bit. And as always at eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine ninety
six sixty three, sixth nine, we welcome one in all
the Saints fans and Derek Carr haters and lovers on
this one. But again, the team knew right from everything
we've heard, this isn't something that when they went into

(05:32):
deciding to I guess it's not picking up his option,
but they could they could have cut him by a
certain date and say they still would have been in
salary cap heal. But again from everything we've seen, the
team knew about this right and they.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Couldn't trade him. And I think that was another thing.
It's like they knew about the injury and that's why
he wasn't even like a trade option.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
We'll get to it all in a bit. I'm a
I'm a college football like not I and I'm in
I'm coming to you live tonight from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The
show is very versatile during the college during the I
guess you could say diamond sports season. We'll see what
it's like during college football season, but during the diamond

(06:12):
sports season, we're very versatile. And I'm here in Tuscaloosa,
Alabama tonight, and to shift from the NFL to college.
You know, my man Shady Sean is very anti any
conversations about what he calls like little league sports. He
does not like college sports conversations, college basketball, college football.

(06:32):
He's out. And I've never really understood that because I
don't think I could talk about anything more with more
excitement and energy than I can college football during the
season and then college basketball during March madness. But you
got to give me Sean some time to talk college
football here because we have an incredible story developing out

(06:55):
of Knoxville, Tennessee, and it's one that I think a
lot of people where I am in Tuscaloosa, Alabama are
kind of looking at with a little bit of intrigue
and obviously a lot of like pointing and laughing, maybe
because we have something that everyone warned us might, could,
would should happen. We have something taking place in college

(07:19):
football that I guess in a lot of ways you
would look at and say was inevitable.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Let me cliff note it for you real quick.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
For those of you that don't eat, sleep, live, breathe
die college football, a guy do you on a day
to day basis. Niko Iamaliaba is the quarterback for Tennessee.
We can have a debate whether or not he's good.
He led his team to the playoffs this year as
as a first year starter and was the poster child

(07:48):
for one of the first major nil deals when he
decided to go to Tennessee. He got a deal that
I think was roomed around two million dollars per season, right,
so whenever he signed, it became the first oh my gosh,
they went out and they bought a guy, and we've
seen how that's become commonplace in college football. Well yesterday,

(08:11):
let's see dependently. I want to make sure that I
don't get I want to be as specific as I can,
because everything timeline wise is interesting in this Thursday, for
those of you that are already in the Sunday time zone, Thursday.
Pete Nakos, who is a pretty well respected reporter in

(08:31):
the college football world. He looks like he's about thirteen,
but he has been our portal guy. He is to
the portal what Adrian Wojnarowski was the NBA scoops, what
Adam Schefter is to NFL. Right, he's our dude when
it comes to the portal. Pete Nako's reports that Nico

(08:52):
is in negotiations with Tennessee to try to get a
new deal, and it's unknown if he will enter the portal.
So this story blows up hours after this story drops
hours Nico's representation, his dad absolutely drops a nuclear bomb

(09:16):
on Pete Nako's claiming, We're not asking for anything new,
there's nothing new to this, there's no story here.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
What this isn't coming from us.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Nico's dad gets support from other quote unquote agents and
coaches that are saying, this guy does this all the time.
This is bs. We're not asking for money. Pete's making
stuff up. So we go to bed, if you will,
with this great unknown about Okay, what's going on here?
Nako's claims that, and I don't know about you guys.

(09:47):
I like covering events. I trust all my sources. I
don't think I would ever say I trust a source
with my life. You know, I've watched it up datelines
to know better. But Pete Nakos said whenever he was
talking to Nico that this is a source that I
trust with my life, which, okay, dude. So we go
to about unknown. We wake up to a report that
Nico is missing spring practice and Tennessee didn't know about it,

(10:11):
that Nico was not a practice that he missed. And
we're in springball right now. Some schools have just wrapped
it up, some schools are on the verge of wrapping
it up, and we're getting ready to head into for
college football fans are springportal window, which is a ten
day window. So it's going to be fast and furious.
And just for more context, it is the last time

(10:34):
we'll have a window like this, probably before the House
Settlement is implemented and we have a salary cap, which
means these pay for play deals are supposed to go.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
By the wayside.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
So it would make sense if Nico and his representation,
we're trying to get theirs before everyone is kind of
kneecapped a bit on that front. It would also make
sense that Tennessee would say, hey, man, page.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Two million dollars the last two years, and it's not.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Really meeting the value. So it would make sense that
Tennessee when they came to him and said we want
more money right now, fam more good. So, you know,
connecting the dots here, you have Pete NACo's who is vindicated, right,
You then have Nico who misses practice and essentially holds

(11:35):
out over either frustration over how the leaks got out,
either frustrations over his deal, or frustrations because they asked
him to take a pay can We did learn this,
according to Chris Slow. Chris Lowe respected report it from ESPN.
He reported tonight earlier today that the iam ali Ava
family came to Tennessee and tried to renegotiate the deal

(11:59):
around the portal. So actually right after Tennessee have been
booted from the playoffs when they got beat by Ohio State,
and I guess they could not come to an agreement
and they decided to wait it out until the spring. Now,
I think Niko would still be a very valued piece
in the portal. He's a stud, But to what degree,

(12:20):
I don't know. You're probably not gonna get a better
deal anywhere else. I don't think anyone's gonna be maybe
Texas Tech. Right, Texas Tech, they've kind of become the
Remember Daniel Snyder used to always go crazy during free agency.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Al Davis did this to where they would just.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Pay ridiculous amounts of money to free agents, and you're like,
why are they doing that? Texas Tech has kind of
become that in college football. So maybe because they've got
a billion dollar donor who wants to win, maybe Tech
would be a place where you could get money like that. Maybe,
I don't know, Maybe Ohio State didn't like what they
saw from, you know, saying the spring.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
I'm just throwing things out there. My point is, I
don't think that Nico's gonna find a situation out there
that's gonna make him more money than he currently gets
at Tennessee. And then the other part of it is,
I don't really know who's winning right now in this
right and I don't really know what's gained. Number One,
it's the first time we've had something like this in

(13:20):
college football. Now. Savior tweets and Savior calls, say what
about the UNLV guy? Little different scenario, right, because if
you look back on the story that was all the
rage at the start of last season, that was when
UNLV quarterback at the time, Matthew Sluca, after a couple

(13:41):
of games, decided to sit out because he wasn't getting paid.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
So this wasn't leverage for a better deal.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
This was leverage to actually get paid what he felt
like he was owed because of an agreement that was made.
So it's a completely different and new world for us
in the college world that no one's unfamiliar with. We've
seen holdouts, but one that is a little bit baffling,
right because he wasn't the reason why Tennessee went to

(14:09):
the playoffs. And I saw this from our buddy Cole
Cubleck and I'll, you know, move on from and I,
like I said, this is a major story in the
college football world.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
That's developing throughout the night.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
If you look at it and you say, don't budge,
don't budge Nico, then what's your realistic options? We're entering
a time where this money is going to be much different,
It's going to look much different. Right if you look
at it and say, go get yours, we'll have you.
You permanently fractured your spot with the team in doing so,

(14:42):
And then in that, like I said, does it seem
a little greedy because you're already making probably double what
anyone on that team is making realistically, and it's like, hey,
I deserve more. It's odd to just bail on practice,
especially because you get so little of it there the
off season in college football Tennessee fans, I'd love to

(15:04):
know where you stand on this tonight and college football
fans in general.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Do we look at this and say we knew it
was coming?

Speaker 1 (15:14):
And maybe more than anything else, could this finally be
that one moment where everyone looks around and says, man,
stuff's broken? All right, this is ridiculous. I mean, you're
you're already making two million. Everyone can go get theirs? Right,
Not a lot of college kids are making two million
dollars nor maybe should they, especially whenever.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
They didn't necessarily live up to the amount they were
paid to begin with.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
But I'd love to hear from Tennessee fans tonight at
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine ninety six sixty three sixty nine to see where
they stand. NBA quickly the Lakers clinch the three seed tonight,
which not gonna lie. There was a point in the
season where I didn't even really know how good of
a playoff team they truly were, or at least in

(16:03):
playoff contender they were.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
And then the Masters. I don't know if we could
have asked for a better leaderboard.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
Scotti Scheffler twenty four straight holes without a bogey, and
then he starts to fall apart a bit down the stretch.
I guess now. The iconic shot from the first two
rounds is him sitting in the pine needles underneath a tree,
but five bogies over his last three holes, but he's
still only three shots back, and sixteen players are separated

(16:35):
by just five shots. Nine of those have a major championship,
three have already wonted Augusta, and right there is Rory
and right there is Bryce and his Shambeau, even though
for some reason they barely covered his round today. So
Masters is leading up to what I think is going
to be a pretty exciting weekend for golf fans ahead

(16:58):
of us. So seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven
seven nine ninety six six three six nine. As the
night rolls on, I've got stuff from the Brian Windhorse podcast,
and I wanted to share the Hoops Collective about the
firing of Mike Malone, which really surprised me. And obviously
we're counting down to the NFL Draft, so we got
much much more on that front. In fact, when we

(17:19):
come back, maybe the biggest story in sports today the
Derek Carr injury. At least it was for Bree. What's
next for the Saints? That's next for us here on
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (17:30):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 1 (17:42):
Seven seven ninety nine on Fox. We'll get your calls
in just a few moments. Eight seven seven nine ninety
six six three sixty nine. Lineup Now, I I don't
know what the reaction will be like to the Nicos story.
I'm I'm just gonna say I'm infatuated with it. I'm
intrigued by it. I don't know what the end game

(18:04):
is here except that Nico's trying to make are at
least his representations try to make more money. And apparently
in some way, lines got crossed, stories got leaked, feelers
got hurt. We'll see where we go from here. But again,
I'm a college football die hard, so I get a

(18:26):
story like this, I'm gonna be all over it. But
you guys drive the show. And if balls fans are
sleeping on this and not deciding if they're feeling some
sort of way. Yet, I noticed there's a large faction
of fans that say, hey, I sucked anyway, which always
happens whenever you have a guy that either wants more

(18:46):
money or asks for a trade. It'll be fascinating to
watch this play out. Now, Brie, let's talk about your
Saints here, and the big story of the day, Derek
carr shoulder injury could cost him the season.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
The Saints are scheduled to begin their off.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
Season training program Monday, and the shoulder injury, which according
to everything that's out there the Saints knew about and
were aware of, could put his status for the twenty
twenty five season in jeopardy. He missed seven games last
year due to an oblique and hand injury, and he

(19:26):
dealt with a shoulder injury as well in twenty twenty three,
when he sprained his ac joint at the beginning of
the season but didn't miss any games. All Right, Brie,
obviously your instant reaction is good, maybe we can go
get a good quarterback. But where you stand on this
right now? How are you feeling?

Speaker 3 (19:45):
So I obviously my first reaction is really really excited,
which sounds so horrible because there's nothing about the injury itself.
Like I'm not like happy that he's heard, But I
just think like it's just getting more clarity because this
whole situation has been this whole off season has been
so murky and super like we've just been like, I
don't know what the Saints are doing. I don't know them.
It's super confusing. So it's just been like more clarity.

(20:09):
I feel like we're kind of just getting a better
idea of what could possibly happen, and especially after the draft,
I mean going into the draft and afterwards.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
You know, the Saints to me acted this offseason like
a team that felt like they were still in this thing, right.
I know that, I know last year did not meet
the expectations, but it's kind of interesting because maybe the

(20:45):
hardest move to make is just made a little bit
easier by an injury. I think if you were to
ask anyone in the Saints friend, I think if you
were to ask Kellen Moore, he wants to have a
veteran quarterback. He wants to have a guy to lead
the way that he's first year coach that would understand
a system. Probably would be someone he's comfortable with. And

(21:07):
I think he and Derek car are pretty comfortable with
each other and help him win football games. But Brion,
you know me, I've become a Saints fan now. I
mean I'm a diehard Raiders fan, but this is my
NFC team now. But maybe the long term best thing
for the Saints gets a little bit of a jump start.
Not tanking or anything like that, but just you know,

(21:27):
Derek Carr is not gonna lead you to a super Bowl.
He's gonna win you seven games, and then maybe you
have a good enough team around him where you can
maybe be plus or minus three or four, but he's
gonna get you seven. So you're never gonna be in
a position where you can tank, and you're never gonna
be in a position where you're gonna be a top seat.

(21:49):
And this comes from a massive Derek Carr fan. I'm
a believer in Derek Carr, but maybe in a lot
of ways, this kind of jump starts a decision that
needed to be made, and that is we got to
go a different direction at quarterback, and not just for
the next two years, are not just for the next season,
but for the next two to three to four to
five years. Captain Abby's seeing this. For Saints fans, they're like, yeah,

(22:10):
of course, duh, we know, right, But who in your
mind right now, who is that guy? Who is that
guy to take? Knowing what's out there draft free agents
that include Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins, Well, Aaron Rodgers
as the free agent, Kirk Cousins as a potential trade partner,
right but who you looking at right now? That is

(22:33):
your choice?

Speaker 3 (22:34):
A choice A nero uno numero uno. I mean I
think my heart if I go with my heart versus
my mind, not gonna lie. I would love to see
Spencer Rattler have a shot with Kellen Moore. I don't
think he had a fair chance.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
Okay, that's fair.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
Last year he didn't.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
Have a fair chance with a lot of things.

Speaker 5 (22:55):
Yeah last year, right, yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
Because by the time he took over, a majority of
that roster was injured, you know.

Speaker 6 (23:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
And I think and especially if like hypothetically they pick
like an alignment with the with their the ninth pick.
Let's say Shador goes early and they don't have a
chance at him, and then they, you know, pick somebody.
But if, like Kyle McCord, I don't think Jackson Dart's
going to be in the second round, Like, I don't
think he's gonna fall.

Speaker 1 (23:19):
Well, I've I've got quite the story for you. It's
almost like you were reading my mind today. All Well,
in fact, this dropped yesterday the McShay show podcast. Now
some of you might not remember, but Todd McShay used
to be the he was the next guy at ESPN,
and then they had their big kind of firing of

(23:42):
a ton of Dandy katz Is of the world, and
the Todd mcshay's were all fired well, Todd McShay took
him a while, wasn't really around much last year, and
then Boom re emerges with his own podcast and YouTube show,
and on his podcast yesterday he projected Jackson Dart as
the ninth pick to the New Orleans Saints and before you,

(24:05):
before you, and this would this would be before Shudor
Sanders went off the board. And here's his why behind it.

Speaker 7 (24:13):
Like he's climbing, he's sliding, he's not retreating, he's not battling.
And I think Kellen Moore sees a lot of like Dak.
Think about when you closeize and you think about Dak,
you think about first of all him doing that hip
thing in pregame, but you think about him at the
top of his drop, climbing the pocket.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
And then kind of moving outside. Yes, when you think
about Jalen Hurts, same stuff, right, mm hmm.

Speaker 8 (24:37):
And a lot of the comps that we hear from
people on on on Jackson Dart, what Jalen hurts, Jalen hurts. Yeah,
Jalen Hurts are fine, light medium, see terms of the runner,
just in terms of the runner. Yeah, So that made
sense to me, okay, And I know it's a shock
to people.

Speaker 7 (24:57):
But like if you take a step back and remove
the name and all the all the stuff. And I'm
not saying Schad Doors ranked up there because of the name,
but I think people were gonna be, oh.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Should didn't go here? Jackson Door?

Speaker 7 (25:09):
It over, Like just remove all that stuff and just
look at the football player, and look at the coach and.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
Look at his background. This just makes sense, all right,
So how about just going ahead, ripping the band aid
off and saying at nine, I know shandor Sanders might
be there, but we're going Jackson Dark because what Kellen
Moore wants, what Kellen Moore has liked, what's worked for
Kellen Moore, this is the dude that has the traits

(25:37):
to fit it.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
M Maybe no, I guess, uhh, I mean I did
not sell you on this.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
I mean I just I guess, like I like all
missed right, Like that's Jackson Dart. Yeah, I mean I
watched him over the last few years. I like I
thought he was fine.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
Like you know, like you're more of a Shadoor scene
I am.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
I am if I have a chance, If there's a
chance at that, and that's not going back to what
you were saying like the Saints have played it off
as if like, oh, you like, we're just I think
that was kind of a tactic, right because if other
teams know that, like, oh we're we have Jerrek Carr
is hurt and we don't know what we're going to do.
I mean that's gonna kind of hurt there. Well now especially,
I mean they know that they're probably a little despritish,

(26:19):
you know.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
Now to your point, to your point and your.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
Desire here, the odds market has shifted towards Shador At nine.
Draft Kings has the Saints as the minus one thirty
favorite to Big Sanders, with the Steelers next at plus
three point fifty. So Todd mcshay's opinion pulled me in

(26:46):
a bit. Really, let's look at the history, right, Let's
look at the history at this draft. Kings' odds pull
me in a little bit. But allow me to pose
one more angle to this where my Saint fans at
tonight at eight seven, seven ninety nine on five, Can
I go back to a point I've made an infinite
amount of times this show, Aaron Rodgers, what are the.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
Saints acting like this offseason?

Speaker 1 (27:08):
They're not acting like a team that's tearing things down
for a rebuild, because if that were the case, they
probably wouldn't have picked up or restructured Derek Carr Steel.
They probably would have probably tried to find a trade
partner for a lave and they resigned Hyron Matthew. They
did a lot of things that when you look at

(27:28):
teams that are trying to shed salary and rebuild, the
Saints did the off the complete opposite. So why not?
Why not? I mean, I don't buy that he's not
going to play. I think that he would fit well

(27:50):
in Kellen Moore. Say now, Kellen Moore has liked a
little bit more of a mobile quarterback. And everyone that said, well,
look no, because what he did with Jalen Hurts, who
can't do with Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
I everyone adjusts to their personnel, and.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
Kellen Moore ran with Jalen Hurts hell of a lot
more than he ever did with Dak. You adjust to
what you have. I'm just saying I wouldn't necessarily rule
it out. I wouldn't immediately say no to that. If Brie,
you're a team that feels like you can compete, I'm

(28:26):
not saying it's the right move. And you know how
addicted I've been this offseason to Aaron Rodgers news. Right,
But do you at the very least kind of shake
that tree? Do you at the very least maybe say, Kellen,
what do you think? I don't know who? I don't
know who all the other offensive coaches are. Off the
top of my head.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
You brought in Mickey Loomis, what do you think?

Speaker 1 (28:46):
I mean? Do you not at least maybe pick up
the phone and make a call and see if Aaron
Rodgers is interested. You dismissed that one very quickly too.
I just.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
Aaron Rodgers like two three years ago. Maybe like it's
like Kevin Durant, right, like when the Sun's got Kevin Durant,
I cried like I wasn't happy, Like.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
So, I mean it's good. I feel like it's gonna
be the same thing if they Aaron Rodgers, like okay,
like what he's gonna give us like six games and
the other Achilles is gonna I don't know, Like I
wouldn't I wouldn't be as excited. I guess I would
just be like, okay, yeah, I don't know, But maybe
I'm just delusional and kind of just like you.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
Seem pretty sold on given Spencer Rattler a shot.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
Schadur or Spencer Rattler or Kyle McCord in the second round,
and you know, Derek Carr comes back. I don't know,
Like I mean, I'm pretty open to a few different possibilities.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
I have found and this is just maybe a wild
assumption or observation. Maybe it's the Plank Show here on
Fox Sports Radio. We're gonna get your calls coming up next.
I have found that in any injury situation that is
reported like this Derek Carr injury with a lot of

(29:58):
vagaries around it, you know, there's not there's not specifics.
It's just a very vague report that Derek Carr is
dealing with a shoulder injury that could cost him the
twenty five season. That's it.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
It's like, wait, is this similar to what he had
in twenty three?

Speaker 1 (30:14):
Uh? Sir? Did you read the report? He's dealing with
an injury that could get you don't know. And I
find that in all of these the worst possible outcome
is always like the first thing, And in this instance,
what's the worst possible outcome? His season is over, He's done,

(30:34):
But you never know, right you can get and I'm
sure by this point there's been second or third opinions,
and you know, this doesn't seem to be something that
came from an agent, but it's just a I mean,
let's also wait and see what the severity looks like.
You know, maybe maybe by the time we roll into Monday,
there is the report that, hey, the Saints unfortunately aren't

(30:55):
gonna have Derek Carr this year. Right, But in the end,
we have been Joe thirsty for anything NFL wise news.
We haven't had a lot of news. We've had. We
had the Georgia Tala comments on the eighteenth game schedule
this week, we ate that up. We had. I mean,
I've never seen a signing more over reported than the

(31:17):
Joe freaking Flacco signing with the Browns. You know, it's
slow times in the NFL news cycle when every single
person who covers the NFL, not just the NFL reporters
and insiders, but even other teams reporters are like, hey,
got a note here, Joe Flacco signed with the Browns.
When everyone is reporting that, you know, it's a slow time,

(31:39):
But you know, story like this a pretty big deal
because it doesn't just affect the Saints and their plans
for this season. It affects the potential whole makeup of
the draft. And now not to say New Orleans ever
wasn't going to take a quarterback in the first round
of the second round. Now suddenly they become in play
for are there in play for maybe moving up? Maybe

(32:02):
it's more urgent to go and get your guy. Maybe
they become a candidate then to drop back. Maybe they
like you know what, Bree, You're right. We like Kyle McCord.
We like the idea of Will Howard or Dylan Gabriel
more than we liked the idea of spending first round
capital or second round capital on a on a quarterback.
It affects the draft potentially, but a fascinating story developing

(32:24):
involving the New Orleans Saints today in the future of
Derek Carr, and I agree with this. You know it's
I know this again, speaking of the vagueness, Craig hits
us up on Twitter and he writes, regarding the Derek
Carr situation, I have so many questions, Craig, me too, Man,
me too, Like when did they know? When did the

(32:45):
Saints know that this was going to be a problem.
How up front was Derek Carr about the severity of it?
You know, who's who do you point the finger at?
In us not finding this out until what's what's what's
our countdown exactly to the NFL Draft? Where are we at?
You know?

Speaker 9 (33:05):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Let me see, I got my twelfth day seventeen hours
and eighteen minutes. You know why this late in the process?
Why when free agency is already gone? You know, is
this something that was a possibility because you know there
were issues before free agency? Did he reaggravate? Well, I mean,

(33:27):
what happened? Because news just doesn't magically pop up like
this unless something happened, or you're old, like Derek Carr
is unfortunately getting and your body starts to break down
the smile on your face. I wish I could have
been there when you got this news today, Brie. I'm
sure you were happy.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
Oh yeah, I started retweeting all the tweets. Put on
my sweatshirt. I've been sitting like waiting to get to work.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
Well, I know you're not rooting for an injury, but
is the idea of an absolute news STUFE for the
New Orleans States potentially all right, your phone call is
coming up next eight seven to seven ninety nine on
Fox eight seven seven nine ninety six sixty three sixty nine.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
Hey, before we break, I.

it is The Plank Show here on Fox Sports Radio
eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine ninety six six three sixty nine.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
I think we've hit on all the big stories.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
I don't really know how much the Masters is as
a sports talk topic. Hey guys, how about the Masters? Right?
What's up with that? Dude? Pan? You know, it's like,
what are you doing?

Speaker 2 (35:25):
It's golf.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
It's great. I love it. We all want to play it.
We all want to maybe watch the last few holes
if you're not a diehard golf fan. But there's just
for me unless you want to debate and fight about
CBS or ESPN and the decision they made to and
I guess now would be ESPN tomorrow to start getting
more into CBS but barely covering Bryson, like barely covering

(35:47):
Bryson and Shambo. I don't he's obviously one of the
most popular guys in the game, or barely showing him.
We talked about the Derek Carr injury at length, but
we got to remember on and Brie, you brought this up.
It's a great reminder. He is weighing his options so
and the team is very much involved in this. So
it's do we get shoulder surgery and probably in the season,
or is there a way to rehabit and battle through

(36:10):
and still play this year? So We'll see NBA Lakers
clinch to three tonight. We'll have a full recap coming
up with Seger at the top of the hour. And
of course the Miko iam Alaba conversation is one that
is fascinating our first true collegiate hold out. Well, let's
get to the phones. Zach is in Seattle. He kicks
us off tonight. What's going on, Zach walk whin the
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 10 (36:31):
Well, your timement is invicable. I love your show. I'm
out here doing Uber Eats and door Dash as a
side hustle for my ten month old and five year
old girls. I always love your show. And I just
pulled up to Yeah, man, I just pulled up to
make an order or pick up an order, I should say,
but they're gonna wait. So the original reason I called in,

(36:52):
I called in a couple of weeks ago about Aaron
Rodgers and how he just keeps recirculating. But the first
reason I called in was the Tennessee quarterback. Okay, And
I'm not even going to put the name on it
because I'm a Washingtonian. I'm a proud WSU Cougar graduate alumni.
And the way that the Pact twelve that was just dissolved.

(37:15):
Now this goes way back to the Commissioner Larry Stone
and not saying no to Texas and and and I
think it was Oklahoma and adding them and thinking that,
you know, just a cluster, you know what.

Speaker 11 (37:27):
So when I when I hear a quarterback like the
Tennessee guy, I think it's it's so short sighted, because
all right, you can get to two point.

Speaker 10 (37:38):
Four whatever, and you want to get four millions, so
that one point six really matters. What do you think
the NFL teams that are going to eventually look at
you as a prospect, what do you think that they're
going to think?

Speaker 12 (37:49):
Right?

Speaker 10 (37:49):
It's so short sighted it blows my mind. And then
I have no sympathy for them, because I mean, WSU's
athletic budget. It's like it's like.

Speaker 12 (37:59):
What he wants, right.

Speaker 10 (38:01):
So there's that. But let me finish on this. Aaron Rodgers,
you and I talked about him a couple of years ago.
I feel and here he is coming up again, right
with with the Saints. You know, I feel like he's
still so.

Speaker 13 (38:17):
Upset or embarrassed about how he fell down the draft
board and the cameras are on him with his you know,
palmade hair and the oversized suits that everybody wore back then,
and I literally think he has a little bit of
PTSD and then he's.

Speaker 10 (38:34):
Like, oh, MVP, MVP, but he's only got one you know,
super Bowl ring and he's just but yet we still
feet into him, and I don't get it.

Speaker 4 (38:45):
I do not get it.

Speaker 10 (38:47):
So the Saint shouldn't take him. I think the Saints
bring up the Derek Carr because they're posturing, because they
want to, you know, be trade bait and get some
draft capital, and for other teams that are thirsty and
hungry for the fodder.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
That's great. I appreciate the phone call, man and boy
shouts out to you, grinding late, take care of the kids,
Zach respect man. Appreciate it. That's an actual, really good point.
That's a really good point, Brie. Why does this story
come out now? Well, maybe maybe New Orleans is trying
to sucker someone to try to move up, get that

(39:21):
quarterback panic right, to see if maybe there's a couple
players or two that they're interested in that could fall
to them. Maybe they're trying to put that draft pick
up for sale to see if they can get more
draft capital. I don't know, but I I just threw
the Aaron Rodgers. I don't know. Mike Florio mentioned it
on Pro Football Talk today, but I do think I

(39:42):
just can't see that being the direction they want to go.

Speaker 2 (39:45):
Hour two coming up next on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (39:47):
Stick around. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio. It's
the Plank Show coming to you live from the tire
rack dot Com studios. Tire rack dot Com will help
you get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free
road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire
rack dot Com the way tire buying should be. We

(40:08):
are coming to you from Tuscaloosa, Alabama tonight. As I
guess I could, I guess I could say our spring
tour continues because tomorrow they will have the Alabama Spring Game.
But obviously all eyes are on Knoxville tonight. You know
what one thing that I wanted to follow up on
a Zach said from Seattle last segment, because I just

(40:32):
like this Nico story is like number one in my
mind right now. We have a holdout in college football.
We have a holdout in college football. We have a
player whose family fought essentially with a reporter on Twitter
and by the way, NACo's p NACo's on three did
not respond, didn't fire back, just like stay chill, I

(40:52):
trust this dude, trust my source. He gets vindicated whenever
Nico didn know shows the next day at practice and
nobody knew anything about it. Guys, that's a hold out.
So what do you do? Where do we go from here?
Maybe the best thing that could happen in all of
this is that it opens more people's eyes to just
how messed up the college system is, because I again

(41:13):
back to Zach's point, he's a Wazoo Washington State fan,
and what Nico's asking.

Speaker 2 (41:19):
For is probably like their budget for certain sports.

Speaker 1 (41:22):
I mean, it's just it's ridiculous and it bears you know,
did I just try to say rementioning? Is that even
a word? Rementioning? It bears reminding everyone that you are
in a situation that all this is gonna change, allegedly
over the next few months, because you're gonna have the

(41:44):
house settlement in and we're gonna have salary caps, and
you're gonna have what's called authentic nil you'll have a
clearing house, and you can no longer just say I'm
giving you four million dollars. We'll see how it goes.
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine ninety six six sixth night.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
Let's just roll through your calls, man.

Speaker 1 (42:02):
We got a pretty open hour, got a very special
guest that's gonna join us late in the program. We
got Breeze threes, uh, Breeze threes, Breeze three. And we've
got Poppy in San Diego. Good morning, Poppy. What's going on? Man?
I guess in San Diego I should say good evening, My.

Speaker 14 (42:17):
Bad Hey, no, I thought good playing good evening. I
was just wondering, like if you were gonna go, you know,
see that thunder. I heard the tickets are pretty cheap,
like three dollars for the week, and you know on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
Wow, well, in fairness, yeah, that is because they're playing
against the New Orleans Pelicans, who we spent basically a
year praising. David Griffin is like the greatest general manager
ever whenever he ended up with Zion Williamson and traded
Anthony Davis and now.

Speaker 2 (42:45):
They're just terrible. So yeah, you can get in the door.

Speaker 1 (42:47):
Poppy for three dollars for that thunder Pelicans game on Sunday.

Speaker 14 (42:52):
Wow, that's amazing. If you guys can go there, go
there and then like Mike from my hometown, I'll get
you for free. There's Cochella going on and you're gonna
watch that on YouTube for free. Lady gotta performing right now.
But that's another.

Speaker 10 (43:02):
Subject, you know. And uh, you.

Speaker 14 (43:04):
Know what I wanted to give you, guys is the
picks last week. They're pretty good one one and one
do glass, But Florida won the national championship and I'm
really liking. Uh, I got two picks for you. I
really like the Dodgers with Sasaki. He's a great pitcher.
You can bet the first five innings if you want
money line or bit the whole game. It's a minus
like one seventy five.

Speaker 1 (43:25):
Can you even make money bet in the Dodgers money line?
I mean that should be pretty apped.

Speaker 14 (43:30):
Yes, you can't, Chris, thank because what we're doing here
with the picks, we're doing long term.

Speaker 15 (43:35):
You know.

Speaker 14 (43:35):
That's why people lose money because sometimes say hey minus
two hundred, Hey I'm not gonna make here minus three hundred,
Like you've got to know the spots and mix and
match would do it. But like minus one seventy five.
If you're constantly betting on that on the Dodgers, let's
say you will make money long term. Just single bet
straight back, Chris. And another one that I want to talk.

(43:56):
There's a great UFC tomorrow, big UFC fight pay per view,
and I really like this match, Alexander Voganowski against Jego Lopez.
And Alexander Voganowski has lost the last two couple of matches.

Speaker 15 (44:09):
He's like an a losing streak.

Speaker 14 (44:10):
He's favorite. But I think Vegas has this wrong because
Diego Lopez from Brazil. He always represents Brazil, but he's
a Mexican because he trains in Mexico at heart. And
I really love Gego Lopez. At plus one twenty plus
one twenty two, you could get that, and I really
think he was going to be out of Alexander Voganowski.
And there was a little drama that you know, if

(44:32):
you know Diego Lopez, Gary Rodriguez is Mexican and he
was calling him out. He's also going to be in
the fight, Jerry Rodriguez, And I love that minus one
forty five. There's like great great fights right there, Chris think,
but those are those are my picks for you guys
on UBC.

Speaker 1 (44:48):
Thanks buddy, have a good one. Good luck. H gosh, man,
I'm looking at this card. What a card Tomorrow night.
I can't believe Jim Miller is still fighting, but he's
going to fight against Chase Hooper to my own and
it's on the main card. Some of the undercard fights
are pretty good as well. Treshawn Gore is a fun
guy to watch. But I will say, I'll give you

(45:10):
I'll give you one. I'll give you one pick. As
part of Poppy's parlays tonight, we got planks parlays who
wrap the show up. We got Poppy's parlays whenever he
calls in. I like Patty minus one forty eight against
Michael Chandler's lightweight showdown. It's not quite co main event
status when you get one versus three in the featherweight

(45:33):
in Volganowski and Diego Lopez as the main event. But
this is a UFC show too. I love it, man,
Poppy UFC three fourteen Tomorrow night in Miami. All right,
Kyle is in Vegas. What's going on?

Speaker 2 (45:47):
Kyle? Welcome to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 15 (45:49):
What's going on?

Speaker 16 (45:50):
Chris?

Speaker 15 (45:51):
I was a little Gainst harder because it was my
first song tuning in in like two months. I was
looking forward to Bernie, But hey, I love you just
as much. Thanks listening to you on Sundays, You and Order.
But you know, my biggest thing that I wanted to
call in and touch base with is two things that
you have touch base on. The first thing is, ever
since two months ago the Lucratic trade, the NBA has

(46:15):
still been raining dominant with that story and moving forward
with it as well. I mean, you had Kyrie go down,
Ad got hurt. The MAVs look dead in the water.
The Lakers were looking dead in the water before the
whole All Star break, and now they're sitting in the third
place currently going into the playoffs and they might actually

(46:35):
get to the second round and get bounced, maybe even
get to the Western Conference finals and get bounced. But
you know, that's that's been the predominant story, and it's
been taken over everything, including the NFL free agency, the trades,
everything that's been going on. So that's the first thing
I wanted to touch base on. The second thing was

(46:55):
the Derek Carr situation. And for anybody that's saying that
he should retire or this looks kind of suspect that
they threw that out.

Speaker 16 (47:04):
There like that.

Speaker 15 (47:05):
You gotta remember, since twenty eighteen, the matter has only
missed seven games, including all the injuries that he's had,
He's only missed seven games, which is phenomenal due to
the fact that he's had broken fibula. He's at the
oblique now the shoulder, and to be in his mid
to late thirties and still trying to swing the ball around.

(47:26):
I think he can still do it given an opportunity
and maybe you know, taking a back seat to the
tutor on somebody later on down the line for this
upcoming season. But as far as the Saint's making any
drastic moves, I don't see that happening. I think it's
one of those, yes, the smoking mirror effect, and we're
going to tell you that something is good and something

(47:48):
is bad at the same time, but we're not going
to really give you too much of what we're going
to do. They're not showing their hands. They're bluffing. I
honestly feel that they're bluffing, and you might be onto
something with that one. But I do love the show
and all the blessings to you brothers.

Speaker 1 (48:04):
See you, buddy. Be safe out there in Vegas, as
Arnie likes to say, be safe out there. Yeah, Sunday nights,
Arnie and I, I this is weird because I'm not
used to being on the road for the Sunday Night Show.
And I'll be on the road for the Sunday Night Show.
So that's just gonna be a completely different feel. These
people here at my I guess you could say Tuscaloosa

(48:25):
Studios are gonna be very shocked whenever I'm screaming and
yelling at a man like what is going on in
that room in there? Just losing my mind because I
bet I would imagine Arnie has some hot take cooked
up here about the Saints and Derek Carr.

Speaker 2 (48:40):
I'm sure he's in the lab cooking one up.

Speaker 1 (48:43):
You know. It's funny he was bringing up and Mike
Leprechaun hanging there. But I'm gonna get right to you.
He was bringing up the some of the NBA storylines.
I went back for tonight's show and I looked at
an article from NBA dot com. So it's a Sean
powellroad and it was the biggest storylines down the stretch

(49:04):
of the season, and this was after the Luca trade,
and I found it to be pretty interesting because he
was right in some of these and he was wrong
in others, but I just one of them wanted to
get here. For Brie. His number three big storyline in
the second half of the season was the Suns and

(49:26):
the quest for redemption. Ah, can we even start rebuilding
in Phoenix?

Speaker 2 (49:34):
Like, because there's no draft picks that you own to
what twenty twenty eight?

Speaker 3 (49:38):
They're the only team in the league that isn't there.
They're not in the playoffs, right, they're not in the
play in right, and they're not in the lottery.

Speaker 1 (49:47):
Oh man, pain pain. And here's the thing. We don't
know what's gonna happen with Durant going forward, but it's
it's pretty wild this, I will say. The other one
that I laughed at was Ben Simmons and his last chance.

(50:07):
Another one of those that you know. But I will say, Uh,
the Clippers are a problem. The Clippers are suddenly like
a thing. I know, they barely squeaked by the Kings
the other night, but I mean they've Zubac looks like
keem Elijah on out there. Suddenly you've got James Harden
looking like old James Harden and not like bad, old

(50:30):
freaking Kawhi Leonard is playing again. I don't want anything
to do with them in the playoffs. Hey, make sure
we cut that out of the replay. I don't want
Ben Mallard ever, hear me? Giving credit to the Los
Angeles Clippers. All right, thanks for the call, Kyle, really
good stuff. Man. All right, Mike the Leprechaun is in Boston.

(50:51):
What's going on? Mike? How are you?

Speaker 9 (50:54):
Good morning? How are you Mike?

Speaker 2 (50:56):
I'm outstanding man. How was your week?

Speaker 9 (50:59):
It's been good? Selling my house today, so I'm up
early and.

Speaker 1 (51:03):
Wait, hold on, that's that's that's three am that you're
up early. There's a lot of different layers to selling
your house. Are you just barely putting it on the market?
Have you sold it? Like?

Speaker 2 (51:13):
What selling your house?

Speaker 1 (51:14):
Are you just done?

Speaker 14 (51:16):
It's on the market.

Speaker 10 (51:17):
It's selling tomorrow for one point two million.

Speaker 1 (51:20):
Looks at you Monday?

Speaker 16 (51:21):
No? No?

Speaker 9 (51:21):
No, the open houses tomorrow and Sunday.

Speaker 1 (51:23):
Oh okay, So I have it.

Speaker 9 (51:25):
I do all my house sanning and all my work,
so I had to be up like like an else.

Speaker 1 (51:32):
Nothing.

Speaker 2 (51:33):
So what's on your mind tonight, Mike, Okay, I.

Speaker 9 (51:36):
Like Poppy's picks. He said Poppy's picks, not Poppy but anyway,
and we rementioned as the Ward two word.

Speaker 3 (51:47):
Yes, Hi, hello, come Martie.

Speaker 9 (51:50):
Hi, Brie Howard the thank you for noting me?

Speaker 3 (51:54):
Oh sure, yeah, that's not really.

Speaker 14 (51:55):
My style anyway, okay, guess And.

Speaker 9 (52:01):
Mark Mark was on the Malour Show that sorry, right.

Speaker 1 (52:05):
Thank you you were the mal show last night, Mark?

Speaker 4 (52:08):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (52:08):
Nice?

Speaker 16 (52:09):
Nice?

Speaker 14 (52:10):
Oh my god?

Speaker 9 (52:11):
Yes? And how many? How many? How many drops did
you have to do with all the sweat words?

Speaker 2 (52:17):
There was a lot, right, there was a lot.

Speaker 1 (52:20):
Really, that was a lot.

Speaker 9 (52:21):
It wasn't me anyway, I have a I w was
tell jokes from all There's one what was Beethoven's favorite fruit?

Speaker 1 (52:32):
What's what's a bagel's favorite fruit? No, Beethoven Beethoven's favor Yeah, okay, sorry,
what is Beethoven's favorite fruit?

Speaker 2 (52:42):
Ludwig von Beethoven his favorite fruit?

Speaker 9 (52:45):
Go ahead, banana ba b Boston Sports updates The Celtists.

Speaker 2 (53:02):
Around a roll mm hmm.

Speaker 9 (53:04):
Their coasting and the Red Sox are kind of on
a roller coaster. They're up and down at this point,
but they'll be okay and the Masters. That's happening in
the gusta. Okay, if you haven't noticed, did you see
to send doctor Bernard langerguy?

Speaker 1 (53:19):
Yes, I did. That was really cool.

Speaker 9 (53:21):
Oh that was that was that. I actually cried. It
brought you to my eyes, honestly because it was sweet.
It was very sweet.

Speaker 16 (53:29):
He seems like a nice man.

Speaker 1 (53:30):
There's no crime, baseball or golf. But I get it.
I get you know what I got. I gotta tell you.
I don't know the way that they were. I don't
know if this was Freddy Couple's last Masters. They were
kind of acting like it was. But I thought Jim
nantz because their old college roommates. I thought he gave
Freddy Couples a really solid send off too. That seems
like that seems like the kind of guy that I

(53:52):
could have a couple of beers.

Speaker 9 (53:53):
With me too, Shane and Irish and golf is good too,
Shane Lowry and Harrie Michael.

Speaker 12 (54:00):
Right, Yeah, he's he.

Speaker 9 (54:02):
Could afford to a couple of pounds, right, I mean,
couldn't we all?

Speaker 1 (54:08):
Well?

Speaker 14 (54:09):
No, well, I know, and Rory is probably in the
best shape.

Speaker 9 (54:13):
And then not a fun fact. This is like a
wife talking to a husband a wife. A woman speaks
thirty thousand words a day, a man or her husband
speaks fifteen thousand. And then the man says to her,
why do you speak twice as loud as I or
twice as.

Speaker 1 (54:32):
Much as I do?

Speaker 14 (54:33):
And she says that.

Speaker 9 (54:36):
I always have to repeat myself, which.

Speaker 16 (54:38):
Is a fact.

Speaker 1 (54:38):
Yes, all right, thanks match, I think I think we
reached the zenea there with Michael Epricun. Thirty thousand words
a day for a woman, Why fifteen thousand words a
day for a husband? Why because the wife always has
to repeat herself. I don't know about the banana joke. Banana, yeah,

(55:04):
I has that buna. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (55:07):
I was gonna say a Kiwi. I don't know why
because I feel like was he blind? Was bet blind? Okay?

Speaker 16 (55:12):
Cool?

Speaker 3 (55:12):
Yes, I was like being like Kiwi's feel like different.

Speaker 1 (55:16):
I thought he said bagel though at first. Anyway, I know,
maybe my ears may my ears need to be cleared out.
Mike Aeleprecaun always has his bits, always has his script.
Now this will lead to a Twitter war, which usually
takes place whenever I forget to leave my alerts or
when I remember to hold on forget to turn off

(55:39):
my alerts and the next thing I know, like Scott

guys need to be friends, man, everyone needs to get along.
I don't know if that's gonna happen. All right, it's

I'd like to give a shout out to somebody here
at the Fox Sports Radio family. Chris Plank back to
back NCAA tournament Fox Sports Radio Bracket Challenge winner, one
of the most difficult feats to pull off, he managed
to do it. Congratulations Plank, good dude, great performance and

(57:03):
let's see if he can go.

Speaker 1 (57:04):
For a three p next year. That's my good for
the week.

Speaker 2 (57:07):
Now, that's awesome. That's my guy. Jonas Knox Bree asked
me what I won?

Speaker 1 (57:14):
What did you win?

Speaker 3 (57:15):
Absolutely no respect from your entire Fox Orts Radio family.
That's what you won.

Speaker 16 (57:21):
I had.

Speaker 1 (57:22):
I had to laugh because a couple of years ago,
maybe it was more everything's a couple of years ago
in my mind. Maybe it was like three or four
years ago. We the winner of the host pool won something.
I think they won a TV. I think they walked
away with the TV. Rob Parker was that what it was?

Speaker 2 (57:42):
Rob would have won if if Houston won?

Speaker 1 (57:45):
Did you know that? No Rob would have won this
year if Houston won. So yeah, and here's what's frustrating.
I'm just gonna say this, and this isn't meant as
some sort of humble brag or anything like that. None
of y'all shop like I do at the supporter of

(58:06):
this event, Tractor Supply.

Speaker 2 (58:07):
I mean I live at Tractor Supply. So congrats to.

Speaker 1 (58:11):
Our winner, who walked away with twenty five hundred dollars
in a gift card from Tractor Supply. But I will
say I was I was grateful, Jonas. No one even
has to acknowledge it, but that was cool of them
to do that, So thank you. And I did go
back to back because I did win the tiebreaker over
Aaron Torres last year, so I was a little bit upset.
I mean Scott Shapiro and his email to the staff

(58:34):
said Chris tied for it last year. I did not, Boss,
I wanted the tiebreaker. That's the tiebreaker.

Speaker 3 (58:40):
You should have responded to the email.

Speaker 1 (58:42):
Yeah, I was going to. But I'm very It's just
I am always good when there's nothing on the line.
That there was nothing on the line in these except for,
like you said, bragging, and then when you win, it's like,
oh well, it was kind of a This was an
easy one because it was all chalk right kind of thing.
And to be honest with you, I had I have

(59:04):
I still have no idea, you know. I guess this
is our first show since the NCAA Championship game. I
still have no idea how Houston beat Duke and then conversely,
how Florida beat Houston. And uh, you know, our first
caller of the night was what Derek in Seattle and

(59:24):
I are Zach and Seattle excuse me, sorry, Zack, and
Zach was talking about Wazoo. You know, that's where Calvin
Sampson started his d one coaching career, was out of
Washington State. And I've I'm a I'm a big fan
of Calvin Sampson. You know he was. He made his
true I think impact as the head coach at Oklahoma,
where he was for a long time and had a
lot of success, and then interestingly enough, he got an

(59:48):
NCAA trouble for what texting things that we don't even
like blink twice about anymore in the world of college sports.

Speaker 2 (59:58):
Wait, you texted him too many times?

Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
And then he went to Indiana where he had some success,
but it just it didn't work out, and some of
those things followed him and Kelvin Sampson went into coaching
purgatory for quite a while. He went to the and
everyone thought the NBA was gonna be his next step.
He In fact, I think he was a finalist for
the Rockets job a couple of times, and then he

(01:00:23):
ended up saying, you know what, I'm gonna take this
job at Houston, a place that hadn't won an nca
tournament game since Clyde Drexler and Achem Elijah On played
college ball, and he took the job and he's turned
it into a wagon. But with that said, I don't
know if there was a more heartbreaking picture, Bree, even
though it helped me win the bracket challenge because I

(01:00:45):
picked Florida to win it all, I don't know if
there was a more heartbreaking picture than watching him just
standing there kind of with his arm folded and his
like ahead, his hand on his face in disbelief that
they didn't even get a shot off in that last possession.

Speaker 3 (01:01:05):
Wow, heartbreaking.

Speaker 1 (01:01:07):
Three final three possessions for Houston on Monday night. Final
three possessions, three turnovers, zero field goal attempts. Think about
that in a clutch moment, biggest moment of the game.
Three turnovers, zero field goal attempts, and once again we

(01:01:30):
had pointless reviews that absolutely take away from the excitement
of the game. Unbelievable, but Thank you Mark, Thank you
for playing that. Thank you Brie. I will accept my crown.
I will wear it with pride as for two years
in a row. Now I have won the Fox Sports
Radio Bracket Challenge brought to you by Tractor Supply. And

(01:01:50):
then I will also add this two year winning streak.
Broke a four year streak when I would lose a
final four pick in the first round. I was out
of four in like five of seven years I had
lost a final four pick in the first round of
the tournament. I have a lot of finger pointing to

(01:02:12):
do at the Tony Bennetts and I think Bill self
was a victim one time in that. Thanks guys. Hey,

(01:03:18):
and the draft Jackson Dart perfect succession plan? Well, here's
here's part of the problem. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:03:27):
I don't know how good of a mentor that Aaron
Rodgers is.

Speaker 1 (01:03:31):
Brie. I think that's that's where we kind of step back.
You're like, eh, is is that direction you want to go?

Speaker 2 (01:03:38):
He was?

Speaker 1 (01:03:39):
You listen to Jordan Love talk and Jordan Love sings
his praises, but it wasn't necessarily smooth in the beginning, right,
So to me, I would say that would make me
a little bit wary. Number two, where do you stand
on it? This is just I think we all have
different opinions, and I think it also depends on the person. Right,

(01:04:01):
Patrick Mahomes, he didn't start his first year. He sat
behind Alex Smith. His only start his rookie year was
the final regular season game against the Broncos. I'm not
saying he wouldn't be what he is today if he
started his first year. But you know who knows Tom
Tom Brady. You want to look at the I mean,

(01:04:21):
the greatest quarterback of all time. What did Tom Brady
do in his very first season with the New England Patriots.
Did n't play? You know, he was one of those
And again you're talking about a guy that, in Brady Mahomes,
was a first round pick. I think we all know
by now that you know Brady was a sixth round pick,
almost a seventh round pick. And in his in his

(01:04:44):
first season, in his rookie season, he was in that
kind of that learning mode. Played one game. I mean,
I think that's kind of one of the great mistakes
that people make about Tom Brady's career. They think that
when Bledsoe got hurt, they think that it was his
rookie year. No, no, no, it was his second season in
the league. And then you have guys like Jane Daniels

(01:05:07):
this year, right, I mean, dude looked ready. Rookie Russell Wilson.
Think back to Seattle beat up. They just gave a
bunch of money to Matt Flynn whenever he beat out.
Matt Flynn was pretty obvious he needed to be the guy.
I'm as a Raiders guy. Derek Carr won the job
is rookie year. I mean they stunked that year, but
they were batter in the long haul because they took

(01:05:29):
their lumps and they played Derek Carr. With that in mind,
we saw a rookie get a lot of time last
year in New Orleans bres and Spencer Rattler. I wonder
if that might just be the plan where, Hey, instead
of getting an Aaron Rodgers and having him mentor Jackson
Darter whomever, or should or Sanders, just go get that

(01:05:50):
guy let him play. You already have a mentor that
you're paying hundreds of millions of dollars to in a
veteran like Derek Carr, who can be that guy away
from the field rights.

Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
That's what I'm thinking. If he's not going to play,
then at least mentor at.

Speaker 1 (01:06:03):
Least be the guy that can help him learn how
to play quarterback in the NFL. Are you a believer though,
in when you drop the guy, you play him right
away or do you let him sit and learn a bit.

Speaker 3 (01:06:13):
I just think it depends on the system. Like it
depends if they if they fit and they they're ready
to go, and if the coach believes that they could
do it, then yeah, But if you know, if they're
still so like raw and fresh, I don't think that's
really going to be the case anymore, especially with these
guys that we were just talking about, like like Dylan Gabriel, Like,
I don't think Dylan Gabriel is going to come in
the NFL and be like, oh, he should probably sit

(01:06:34):
another one to two years, you know, I don't think
that's I don't think that's ever going to really be
the case anymore.

Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
Especially Es actually with how I was just going to say,
especially with how old they are when they're coming into.

Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
The league now, and how many different programs they've probably
been at, you know, all the different plays and schemes
they've been involved in, I don't think they really need
to sit really anymore.

Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
One of the names that's starting to get a lot
of buzz as we get closer and closer to the draft.
For some reason, as Tyler Shuck. Tyler Shuck took a
visit to the New Orleans Saints, So a lot of
when you take these top thirty visits, it automatically becomes, hey,
maybe they're looking at him, Maybe there's a chance they
could bring him in. Tyler Shuck is twenty five years old.

(01:07:19):
By the time the season starts, he's going to be
twenty six. His first year in college was twenty eighteen.
He played for three different teams, Oregon, Texas Tech, and
the Louisville and didn't start more than ten games in

(01:07:40):
a season until last year, when he was twenty five
years old. So, I mean, you're right, that's a guy
that if you draft, you're like, we gotta play him.
I mean, he's gonna be thirty before we know him.

Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
But he's also not gonna be a first round pick.

Speaker 1 (01:07:57):
So you kind of balance you want to bring this
guy in his backup, what's that going to look like?
But I I don't know, I don't know it happy
for life. I don't know if that's going to be
a situation where you allow him to sit and you
allow him to learn. Or if you bring someone in
right away and he's your guy.

Speaker 5 (01:08:12):
Don't you have to wait for the new quarterback to
get used to professional because if they've been in college,
is a completely different mindset now that you're a pro,
because everybody on the other side of the line coming
at you is way better than all the college guys. Yeah,
so you have to get used to that. And so
just putting somebody in right away because you need to

(01:08:35):
just we have to get this person in, that might
slightly damage them just a little bit because they're going
to get beat up because it's so new and just
they're seeing everything as a pro quarterback for the first time.

Speaker 1 (01:08:49):
Well, and then I think you saw this. You saw
this with Caleb Williams last year, right, And the Bears
were kind of in a situation. The Bears are kind
of a situation where they had to play him, you know,
because you couldn't you couldn't keep Justin Fields around because
that would create a scinis him in the locker room.

Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
So you had to go with him. And he learned
trial by fire.

Speaker 5 (01:09:14):
The hard way, hard way, literally getting knocked down all
the time. And you know, I guess the amount of
times he got sacked is a big deal. But you
know that was this situation where you know, because of circumstances,
you had to play him, but their results are while
he got beat up. I'm turning to do like Carr's
older brother.

Speaker 1 (01:09:34):
Yeah, exactly, exactly. There was one more I wanted to
get here, but just one final thought on this. I
didn't realize how much angst and disdain there was around
this towards Derek Carr. I mean, he's a quarterback who's
a good dude, godly man. I didn't realize how like

(01:09:59):
Saints failed are just basically treating him like he's public
enemy number one.

Speaker 3 (01:10:03):
It's kind of how he's been treating like the community.
Like did you see that thing about Geno Gino Smith,
what he did no for?

Speaker 1 (01:10:14):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
Well, I mean that's kind of funny because I saw
that he he invested three point six million dollars uh
into a home in Las Vegas. Oh wow, for I'm
gonna read it, okay. Gena Smith of the Las Vegas
Raiders has invested three point six million dollars to transform
a house into a shelter for homeless youth in Las Vegas.

(01:10:37):
He's been on the Raiders for like two minutes. That's awesome,
and he's already done something so huge for like the community.
Derek Carr has barely And I don't live in New Orleans,
so I really I just obviously disclosed that.

Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
But he didn't.

Speaker 3 (01:10:49):
He hasn't done any of that. He wasn't around doing
during Super Bowl Week at all, like representing the organization anywhere.
He wasn't at Kellen Moore's introductory press conference. Like he's
just nowhere to be found, you know, like he's just
not It's so opposite of like Drew Brees. Like Drew
Brees just like radiated and was like a saint and

(01:11:10):
was always out there. I mean, he's still like a
super Bowl Week he was walking around with his little
bounty jacket on Bounty like you know, like the whatever,
the paper washer whatever, what are those things? Paper towels?
Like I think he was like a representative. But I'm
just saying like he he's like he was like a saint,
and I just don't think like Derek Carr never really
bought into like the organization is so just like a

(01:11:31):
money grab interesting.

Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
I don't, like you said, I'm not there in New Orleans.
I don't know what's going on. I got great friends,
you know that by Teaba Bebear, and you know, obviously
there Jacob Paster, dudes that I work with, and it
was kind of odd that he wasn't around. But I mean,
I don't know. I felt like he's been there for

(01:11:55):
other events before. And I mean, if he's winning games,
I don't think anyone cares if he's there for the
Super Bowl or not think that. I think this comes
back to what makes everybody mad at all their favorite
teams and players, our draft picks or free agent signings
or whatever it is, win games. And if he won games,
I don't care what you do. It's like, where was

(01:12:16):
he hearing the Super Bowl? I don't know they won
thirteen and three. I'm more mad than they weren't at
the Super Bowl fourteen and three or whatever, right, And
I think it's compounded by all of that just piles
up that is Gino Smith is a dude that is
big time in the community everywhere he's gone.

Speaker 2 (01:12:31):
I think that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:12:32):
Derek Carr has been big time in the community at
Oakland and Fresno in Vegasy.

Speaker 3 (01:12:37):
He's still involved in Fresnoe's to he was at the
spring game.

Speaker 1 (01:12:41):
It'll be interesting, I think, to see what happens with
that number nine overall pick now, But I was not.
What's my favorite meme is Shack where he goes? All right?
I guess it's not a meme, maybe more just like
a clip when he's talking about a player goes. I
was unfamiliar with your game. I was unfamiliar with this
deep rooted hate. And maybe part of it is just
because it's the biggest story in the offseason right now

(01:13:03):
and the timing of it. But yeah, a lot of
high five and I think going on amongst Saint fans
right now. We'll see if it works out. All right, Well,
catch a break when we come back. I want to
get into some NBA stuff, and I'm trying to. I've
been so critical of how bad the play had been
down the stretch that I don't want to give too
much credit. But last week was fun in the NBA,

(01:13:25):
and maybe not for the right reasons. We'll dive into
it next as we're coming to you live for the
tire rack dot Com studios right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:13:32):
Hey don't get up the best boy that sounded weird.

Speaker 1 (01:13:36):
Don't forget about the best pregame show every weekend, be
sure to tune into Fox Sports Radios Countdown presented by
bet MGM every Saturday and Sunday morning from nine to
noon Eastern six to nine Pacific, six eighty nine eight Pacific.
We'll count you down to the biggest games. Tune into
Countdown presented by bet MGM every Saturday and Sunday right
here on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Oh

(01:13:57):
shout out to our buddy Brian now used to live
the third shift hours, one of the people that reached
out to congratulate me on my championship this week. I
just I got the mind his touch right now with it,
and you gotta get a little lucky, like come on,
Duke had no business losing to Houston, and then Houston
had no business losing on Monday Night to Florida, which,

(01:14:21):
by the way, sidebar Monday night championships are the worst.
I don't know why we do this in college We
do it in football. We do it in basketball, and
football is ridiculous. We condition everyone to watch college football
on Saturdays, right, it's all your all. The biggest games
are on Saturdays. Yes, we asked from Friday night and
Thursday night games. And everyone wants to act like they

(01:14:43):
care about maction when it's really only about gambling. But
Saturday is when you condition everyone to watch college football.
So let's have the championship on Monday night. I mean,
does Super Bowl Sunday fall on a Tuesday? Well, you know,
I just worked out that way. No, we can you
watch NFL football for the most part on Sundays. Share
we got Thursday night games. Now, Yeah, Monday night football

(01:15:06):
is a staple. But I mean, what are we doing
in college and we've done it for a while anyway,
The lack of reaction to then Eco story tonight leads
me to believe that I'm barking up the wrong tree
if I try to talk college football. So let's get
into another controversy here. Do you watch NBA TV much, Brie? Mark?

(01:15:26):
Do you guys watch NBA TV much at all? I
used to, okay.

Speaker 2 (01:15:30):
Mark, do you watch it at all?

Speaker 5 (01:15:31):
I used to watch NBA games.

Speaker 1 (01:15:33):
Yeah, okay, NBA TV. I don't know how.

Speaker 2 (01:15:36):
I have never watched it, never have, and I don't
know why.

Speaker 1 (01:15:40):
I'll always slide by and I'm like, oh, that looks
pretty cool, and then I'll turn it on and it's
showing either like old games or an old show.

Speaker 2 (01:15:47):
It's like I never catch live programming.

Speaker 1 (01:15:50):
And I think I finally started to understand why tonight,
as they were getting ready for the Lakers game, I
guess Isaiah Thomas is on the A pregame show and
Lebron James was warming up without a shirt on, which
again I didn't realize was the thing that would trigger people.

(01:16:10):
But here's what Isaiah Thomas had to say about it.
He was not a happy man. James gonna play the
game like this. Shirts and skins is what they're doing it.

Speaker 18 (01:16:19):
I mean, I just totally one hundred percent object to this.
And if that was the GM of coach Drew, I
would never let one of my players walk out on
the floor looking like this. I mean, we are professional.

Speaker 1 (01:16:34):
NB A league. We ain't.

Speaker 18 (01:16:37):
We ain't summer league.

Speaker 1 (01:16:39):
We ain't w ain't you know.

Speaker 19 (01:16:41):
At the YMCA, I think coaches got to go back
to suits. I just mean, absolute aslutely, you know, I
just I just think that. I just think the professionalism
in all nb A league has diminished so much.

Speaker 1 (01:17:00):
And look, I like Lebron.

Speaker 18 (01:17:04):
I'm a fan of here and so forth and so on,
But to walk out on the floor before a game
with no shirt on and shoot, I mean, come on, man,
this where we at?

Speaker 1 (01:17:17):
What we're doing? H you know interesting? Think about all
the problems that we have right now in professional sports,
and I'm not gonna lie. This seems like it's It
seems like it's a shot that was taken of Lebron
well before tip off. There's not even people in the seats,

(01:17:41):
and he doesn't I was sharing on he's got sweatpants on,
he's just shooting. But he's shooting buckets. I mean, this
is the hill that we're gonna climb up and try
to die on. Isaiah Thomas like, what what are we
doing now? It's funny because there was a ton many
many years ago, back in my day, when David Stern

(01:18:04):
admonished the Tim Duncans of the world and other NBA
players for their dress, for their attire. In fact, guys
in this player run league, there was a dress code
for how you had to dress whenever you were on
the road or coming two games. It was wild. But

(01:18:25):
you know, you think about dwindling TV numbers. A last
couple weeks of the season that has had some really
awful games. I get it. We can all be triggered
by something that seems minute to some but is a
really big deal to us. And Isaiah Thomas is a

(01:18:47):
very respected He's all a famer, he's a nat he's
world champion, national champion, He's an all time great. But
I mean, I know we got lebron haters. It's fine.
I'm not judging. But because he was warming up with

(01:19:08):
his shirt off well before anyone was in the stands,
I mean, I don't know, man, Maybe there is this
code and I'm not I'm not privy to it. And honestly,
we don't even know when that video was shot because
there's so much early access that these cameras can get.
Hi might have been the first time he stepped on

(01:19:29):
the court, But what Isaiah Thomas are gonna throw a
fit whenever guys try to run out and get stretched
out without their shirt ons before NFL games. I mean,
come on, I understand old heads we kind of get
mad about things that others don't, but kind of feel
like Isaiah Thomas Smith's the mark and it reminded me
I don't watch bea TV because I don't care what
Isaiah Thomas has to say. All right, when we come back,

(01:19:51):
got a lot of NFL talk on Fox Sports Radio.
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio. All right, we're
rolling special guest later this hour. I guess I can
for those that have made it this far. Kevin figures
who is what he's in on the Fellows today, right.

Speaker 3 (01:20:08):
Brie yep, excited, So.

Speaker 1 (01:20:10):
He's in early. So we're gonna spend our final segment
kind of crossing over between us and the Fellas. So
k figuring out now. Kevin figures we'll talk Nico Iamalaiava
with me. So I'm excited about that and maybe a
little bit about the Raiders draft and what's coming up.
Very popular name in Raider draft rooms all the sun

(01:20:31):
appears to be Quinn Yewers, So I'm wet. Have to
work through that, get through that as best as I can.
As we come to you live from the tire rack
dot Com Studios. Tire rack dot Com, We'll help you
get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, over ten thousand recommended installers.

Speaker 2 (01:20:52):
Tire rack dot Com. The way tire buying should be Now.

Speaker 1 (01:20:55):
We spend a lot of time on the Derek Carr
story tonight because Bree is a diehard Saints fan. Saints
fans everywhere celebrating. But Nick Underhill I was reading quite
a bit during the break. He claims that this is
going to be a step in a new direction for
the Saints and welcome to a rebuild. And how any

(01:21:16):
move and he trade, anything the Saints do going forward,
it's going to be interesting because they right now they
just don't seem to have I don't want to say
a positive direction, Bree, but they don't want to make
a move that impacts a twenty twenty six trap because
it's likely they could be drafting higher than ninth. Now,

(01:21:38):
this shoulder injury story, depending on the severity of it,
could be as much as hey, he's going to battle
through it, let's see what happens. Could be as severe
as hey, he needs surgery. He's done, and he may
have taken his last snap in New Orleans. Hell, who knows,
maybe his last snap in the NFL. I mean, Derek
Carr is everyone wants to talk about Aaron Rodgers retireiring.

(01:22:00):
Derek Carr is a guy that I could easily see retiring.
You know, he's got his eyes on being a pastor.
He wants to he wants to run a church and
change lives. But I mean, I don't know everything about Derek.
Seems like he still wants to play, but you just
don't know in these situations when you have an injury
like this isn't it wild? Though, Brie and I joked

(01:22:21):
about this a lot tonight. We are so hungry for
NFL news of any type that two very mid quarterbacks,
one kind of above mid quarterback are getting all the
headlines because Drew Locke re signed with the Seahawks, Joe
Flaco signed with the Browns, and Derek Carr is injured

(01:22:41):
and has kind of sent the twenty five plan for
the Saints, and it's some flux kind of seems like
that We're really need something major to happen here with
Aaron Rodgers to truly get our news cycle back on track.

Speaker 3 (01:22:53):
Right, Yeah, I really stretching here, really stretching, especially like
Michael Parsons is still like tvdy then, like a lot
of things are still like you know.

Speaker 1 (01:23:04):
Even Trey Hendrickson stuff. You're like, yeah, but you are
a defensive ends. I mean, I appreciate it, but you're
edge guy. One note that I did want to add
here before we got to the Mike Malone stuff that
I researched for the show tonight. Patrick Peterson is going
to retire now. In fairness, I thought he retired three
years ago. But when he came out of LSU, I mean,

(01:23:29):
that was that was one of those dudes that you're
talking about that you thought, oh, he's going to change
the game, and he did. I mean, the guy's a
member of the All Decade Team from the twenty tens.
He was a Pro bowler in each of his first
eight seasons, and when he was drafted in the twenty

(01:23:50):
eleven draft, he went fifth overall. He's played with the
Vikings Steelers, and now it's time for him to prepare
for what I think will be a first ballot Hall
of Famer as one of the best defensive players probably
of our generation. It's I also think and where we

(01:24:14):
got Viking, we're on in Minnesota. We got Vikings fans,
a Steeler fans too, Pittsburgh fans, you guys saw it.
It also might be a good magnification of when it's
time to go. It's time to go right, because Patrick
held on a little bit too long. And I don't
think you ever diminish your legacy, right, I don't think
it ever becomes a situation where it's like, well, he

(01:24:36):
just wasn't a great player. But it does. It does
give a whole new perspective because you got to dig now.
It's like, oh, wasn't he a bit of a liability
with the Steelers and the Vikings in the last couple
of years. But then you look back on his history,
You're like, oh, no, that guy was a stud. So
congratulations on a great career. Probably should have stepped away

(01:25:00):
year earlier. But you know what, that doesn't take anything
away from it, anything away because technically, I mean, he
did not play at all last year, like he he
was with the Steelers in twenty three, played a couple
of years with the Vikings, but never stepped on the
field last year, but had been seen as a guy
who kept holding on despite kind of the skills. He

(01:25:21):
wrote in a bit I'm a fan. I'm not trying
to dog him. I'm a fan, but I'm happy now
that we'll be able to reflect on the good times
and not the why why is he in the game,
and when you reach that moment in your career, that's
whenever you're kind of that's whatever, you gotta lose your
fan support. And funny, speaking of the Saints, here, did

(01:25:43):
you see who ended up showing up in Saints camp?
Who's ah, I say camp, but who had a visit?
Tyler Shuck. Did we talk about that earlier?

Speaker 3 (01:25:51):
We did?

Speaker 1 (01:25:51):
Okay, he's like fifty, so good luck on getting him
in the in the third round, fourth round of the
NFL Draft. All right, so there's the NFL notes. If
you want to jump in on it, let's go. We
got some time at eight seven seven ninety nine on
Fox eight seven seven nine ninety six six three six nine.
One interesting note, by the way, is that it does
I mean we know even we're not even talking about

(01:26:12):
who's going number one overall. It's cam Ward and that's
become pretty solidified ever since his Pro day workout and
then the ensuing canceling of visits that the Titans had
with shad Or Sanders and others. So that's pretty much
a done deal. I think, is as done as it
can be with still, you know, twelve days before the draft. Now,

(01:26:32):
I think we were witnessed to a very shocking story
this week. A guy who just won a title two
years ago as a head coach was fired. Michael Malone,
head coach of the Denver Nuggets, was fired. I'm not
going to lie to you. Shocked, blown away, could not
believe it, and I did not really know much about
the drama surrounding the front office with the Denver Nuggets.

(01:26:55):
And I guess you kind of look back at it
and you say, hey, good on, good on, Josh Kronky
form making a decision, but can you maybe wait until
the season is over. Here's what the Nuggets owner, who
kind of looks like an evil villain, not gonna lie.
I dig the look Josh had to say about making

(01:27:18):
the change now as opposed to the end of the season.
Found this to be pretty fascinating from a guy that
you know, I'm not sure it was an easy decision,
but he's like none.

Speaker 20 (01:27:28):
I wanted to try to figure out a way to
potentially squeeze as much juice out of the rest of
the season as possible. After talking with with my father
in recent days, we came to the decision that we
were going to be changing these roles at the end
of the season. With that thinking in our mind that
we know that we're going to be changing these roles
at the end of the season, then your mind then
turns to, well, what is the best decision for this
group right now? From that point forward, I think that,

(01:27:51):
you know, I became comfortable with the thinking of, you know,
let's try to shake this tree and squeeze, squeeze as
much out of this as we can.

Speaker 1 (01:27:58):
All right, fair enough? Still tough, right, still a really
rough look. Whenever you have a guy who brought your
franchise a title and two years later he's gone. Now,
part of this was maybe soothed over just a bit

(01:28:20):
because you did have you did have Nikola Jokic come
out and say, I knew it wasn't what he say. Well,
I guess, I guess maybe hearing from him, I make
it a little bit easier because it was a conversation.
It wasn't really a consultation. And I think in that, well,

(01:28:42):
I can quit trying to tell you what Nicola Jokic
said and just played for it.

Speaker 21 (01:28:46):
I knew a little bit before everybody, and the heat
made people like we made a decision, So it was
not discussion. It's a decision and he told me why,
and so I listen and I accepted. You know, it's
I'm not going to tell you what he told me.

Speaker 1 (01:29:01):
Not a discussion, not a decision. It was a discussion, right,
So in other words, hey, this is this is the
why now. I found this to be fascinating. I found
this to be fascinating. From the Hoops Collective podcast, this
is Tim McMahon, and he talked about after doing some

(01:29:24):
digging what he found out around Nuggets Camp. I'm ready
to we all know.

Speaker 6 (01:29:30):
But yeah, in talking to people around the organization, I
frankly haven't heard sadness that Michael Malone is is is
no longer the Nuggets head coach. It's been pretty much
a consensus, and I've talked to several people that his
time had had come, like it had run its course,
and that this this extended Cold war battle or you know,

(01:29:53):
whatever you want to call it between Michael Malone and
Calvin Booth had drained the joy from the entire organization.
You know a lot of I mean people one guy
used to turn freaking miserable, and that they felt like
those guys had prioritized their own situations and their own egos.

Speaker 1 (01:30:15):
How about that? How about that? You know, in the moment,
we all see it and we all think, huh.

Speaker 17 (01:30:23):
That A.

Speaker 1 (01:30:26):
That's a really bad look, right, that's a really bad look.
And then we found out that they were going to
do this at the All Star break? But why did
they not do it at the All Star break? Anyone? Anyone?
Because the Nuggets won eight straight games. But then when
you drill deeper into that eight game winning streak, who'd
they beat? Well, there's a win over the Pelicans in there,

(01:30:49):
win over the Trailblazer. They beat bad teams. So winning
can mask a lot of bad And you know, I
said this on my local show, and I kind of
feel like I need to do a one eighty. I
was really afraid for the Oklahoma City Thunder to potentially
see the Nuggets in the playoffs after they fired Michael Malone.

(01:31:10):
That fear subsided. I'm like, oh, dude, this place is
in chaos. Good, hey, they bring on the Nuggets. They're
a mess right now, fire their coach, can fire their
GM see them. But now, all of a sudden, when
I hear that, and I kind of watched the way
the Nuggets played tonight, like, oh, I don't know if
I want to see them again, and it looks like

(01:31:32):
they're in position to get that four seed. By the way,
real quick, before we get to sir, scratch off and
we get ready for Breech three and for a k
fag to join us in a busy final hour. Were
you surprised as I was this week Breed when Malone
got fired? That shocked you as much as it did me.

Speaker 3 (01:31:47):
Literally looked at my phone. I was like, oh my god,
I thought it was fake ice.

Speaker 14 (01:31:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:31:52):
Same, especially because like as a Suns fan, like I
was waiting for coach Bud to get fired first before
like I'd ever think of Mike Malone.

Speaker 1 (01:32:00):
We've had two coaches get fired whose teams are going
to the playoffs, Taylor Jenkins and Michael Malone. And in
both situations, everything that's coming out of the camp is
that everyone was miserable. It's like, what are we doing?
One quick? Other one other? NBA note here real quick,
before we get to the phones to my man, Gunner.

(01:32:23):
Gunner hit us up. He asks what seed do you
think the Timberwolves will get? I say five of the
highest six at the lowest. Let's see two games remaining
are one game remaining. Sorry, they're in a virtual dead
heat with the Golden State Warriors at six. They're a
game behind the Nuggets for the five, and you play

(01:32:44):
the Jazz who, by the way, the Utah Jazz tonight
got beat by forty against the Thunder backups, so you're
gonna finish forty nine and thirty three. The Warrior has
had kind of that inexplicable lost to Golden State and
they wrap up with the Clippers. Hmmm, I'm gonna say,

(01:33:07):
I'm gonna put you up there out of the playing tournament.
I think you're gonna end up as the six. I
think you're gonna be the six, and I think we're
gonna have ourselves a pretty rock and first round series.
Think about that. You're one eight, right, just hypothetically, your
one eight could be the Thunder and the Grizzlies. Your

(01:33:30):
two seven could be Houston and Golden State. Your three
six could be the Lakers and Minnesota. How fun is that?
And then Denver and La as potential four or five
LA Clippers. That is anyway, Thanks Gunner, appreciate you finding
a way to check in while you're grinding away tonight.

(01:33:52):
All Right, A couple of calls to wrap it up
on the phone, Sir scratch Off, driving all over the country.
What's going on, Sir scratch Off. Welcome to the program.

Speaker 12 (01:34:00):
When are you gonna start doing this show?

Speaker 1 (01:34:02):
This is my show for a while. Yeah, we'll see
how long it lasts. I haven't been fired yet.

Speaker 16 (01:34:07):
Tweet man, I met you here a while back.

Speaker 12 (01:34:09):
You know, my boy, he lived at a broken here
and played the loss of soft ball like the last
few years. And I tell you about you all the time.
You don't you still live in Oklahoma.

Speaker 1 (01:34:18):
I live in Oklahoma, Sir scratch Off. Travel in the world,
my man, just like you.

Speaker 12 (01:34:22):
Yeah, you know, I would take something on these you
got these you talk about these haters for Lebron. I
few Lebron wherebor he goes? All right? And also too,
they got a player on the Lakers in Cape Markasos
till my niece graduated in high school together.

Speaker 16 (01:34:36):
As I just yeah, often I just take law. I'm
just talked him here while back.

Speaker 12 (01:34:40):
He came to Arkansas and they did a little camp,
you know, and we sat there and talked and had
him sign one of my hats. But you know, I
like h Lakers.

Speaker 10 (01:34:47):
I like Lebron.

Speaker 12 (01:34:47):
I don't like what his mouth says sometimes, but dy'de,
I'm proud of him. They get they shut him down
all the time. They're not gonna do anything. I'm not,
don't win any games. And all of a sudden, you know,
I've been listening to Fox Sports Rail for twenty four years.
In September twenty seven, driving and you hear a lot
of slamming him and stuff, and he does it to
this something like I say, but still they're in there
again when people said they wasn't gonna be in there again.

(01:35:10):
And and myself, I compare sports to to commercials.

Speaker 16 (01:35:15):
Okay, you've got a lot of trash in.

Speaker 12 (01:35:17):
Sports, just like you've got a lot of commercial that's
over and over and over the.

Speaker 16 (01:35:21):
Same people, you know, and and that.

Speaker 12 (01:35:24):
Problem Prescott, and you've got you got car, and you've
got you got Aaron Rodgers, you got man, just just
go away. You know, we're we're taught of here about
you swatching, and we're tired of you.

Speaker 14 (01:35:35):
But you're you're crying.

Speaker 12 (01:35:36):
And let's get this new new talent in there, and
let's see what they've got doing, because that's what they're
playing so hard for. And when you get this draft
in the next I think like twelve days. I mean,
let's get the new new talent, and let's cut this
other trash. Go home or are gonna cry somewhere else.
You're broken down.

Speaker 10 (01:35:54):
All the time.

Speaker 15 (01:35:55):
You're wanting that you want more.

Speaker 12 (01:35:56):
Money, but what are you making for your money? You're
not doing anything, you know, And that's the way I
look at this man. You know, we got so much trash.
Go home or go somewhere else in corn cry But
any white man The Fellers, I listen.

Speaker 16 (01:36:09):
I love it since O nine.

Speaker 12 (01:36:10):
I've been listening to it. I love it when it
comes on in the morning. I missed Big Lincoln and
and and figures he's next best at Garcia. I don't
know what happened, Mandy. That was stupid. But Anthony, I
love the Fellas, and you coming on Friday night. Saw
it's gonna make my weekend a whole lot better man.

Speaker 1 (01:36:25):
Thanks Dot, I appreciate that, Sir, scratch off. She just
wants them all to go away. Dak Aaron, Derek, Dak
Derek Aaron. Just get out here, go away. Here's the problem. Though,
everyone's gonna lose their mind over arch Manning and that's
gonna be the talk of the draft, because I mean,
why not. He's started zero conference games in the SEC.

(01:36:47):
But he's gonna be the first pick in the draft.
I mean, who knows, maybe he will be. I'm not
sold on him yet. But this just isn't this great
quarterback class. Unfortunately, it's just not now it might didn't
up being a quarterback classer scratch off that. You know,
the second day guys and the third day guys end
up becoming ballers. I think Dylan.

Speaker 2 (01:37:08):
Gabriel's got a shot.

Speaker 1 (01:37:10):
I really like Jackson Dard and he's getting into probably
be in the top ten pick now. But I mean
we'll see. Oh to the other point, I'm not I
love Lebron. I mean I just love Lebron. Do I
not like some of his political stances? Sure, but I
don't like the cross section of political politics and sports anyway,
I couldn't care less. But I love everything he's about.

(01:37:33):
He loves playing ball. All right, let's get one more
call in than Breeze three. We'll start heading down the
home stretch here on Fox Sports Radio. Jerome is in Charleston.
What's going on, Jerome?

Speaker 16 (01:37:44):
I just want you to know Chris and this year's
NBA playoffs, No one in Freae your Oklahoma City, Middle
sort of Boston, Coveland, No one is see okay because
no one he knows what's gonna happen. Hey, I look
for this tournament to be wild and crazy and uh

(01:38:07):
as far as Denver getting rid of the coach. Hey,
it's a shock, but it's not a shock because it's
a business. Because like Chris cart always says, always said,
when you get in trouble, always have a fall guy.
And when things they're going well and sports, who was
the first guy to go the coach or the GM,
one of the two of them, because the owner's not

(01:38:29):
going anywhere, the players not going and some circumstances, the
players aren't going away unless you're Dodget or Korean. You
know when he got traded. But hey, when it full,
when it falls, it's going to fall on the coach.
Rn So And the way, I'm not surprised I didn't.
I didn't look I waked away anyone playing. I'm thinking,

(01:38:49):
nas something, I don't look good, something's wrong. And then
I found out why I was feeling that way, because
I got tea. I used to live in Denver, so
I kind of keep track of him sometimes. So when
he got fight us at home, there's a lot worse
than Night's on. So oh okay, but no one's say
it from those playoffs. Man, I don't care who you are.

Speaker 1 (01:39:10):
I agree man, Hey, good phone call, Jerome. Appreciate it.
And I like the callback to a great moment in U.
I guess this would be pep talk history whatever. Chris
Carter told all the young rookies to always have a
fall guy. Gotta have a fall guy in your life. Great,
great recall, you know, drum for as bad maybe as

(01:39:32):
the post the home stretch of the NBA season has been.
I feel like the postseason is gonna be wild. I
can't wait. I can't wait. I almost want to listen.
We got one more game to deal with on Sunday
and there's playoff positioning at stake, so that Clippers Warriors
game is huge. But next week you're one hundred percent right, man,
Nobody is safe, especially in the West. Breeze three next

(01:41:18):
not two, but three. It's entertainment. It's good. It's Breeze three.
I'm not trying to jinx anything here, bribe, but you
were very excited about the Breeze three topic tonight, so
let's get after I am.

Speaker 3 (01:41:36):
I'm like, it's kind of funny, how excited I am?

Speaker 1 (01:41:38):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (01:41:38):
So we were talking about Isaiah Thomas earlier kind of
attacking Lebron for being shirtless whenever he's during like shoot around. Well,
earlier this week, Mattel unveiled that he has a Ken
doll to kick off the Toy Manufactures Cambassador series. Super
super exciting, totally exciting. I actually had this whole thing

(01:42:03):
where I was like, is it like figuring versus doll? Like,
I mean, like wrestling figurines are are cool, right, but
I don't know something about a doll whatever. Anyways, just
my opinion. So I'm looking at the doll, and so
he has a hat. He has like a little like
fanny pack thing over his chest that I don't know
what it's called nowadays, but super cool lou Lemon make
some and then he has sunglasses and some headphones. So

(01:42:25):
my Breeze three is what if you were a doll, right,
what would your three accessories be?

Speaker 1 (01:42:32):
Oh? Okay, all right, this is good, I do like
to say, And you've noticed this new kind of AI
thing that's going on. I saw that, yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:42:40):
And people are making them about themselves like Coveino and
Rich did one. I saw some people on Twitter. I
didn't actually do that, but yeah, so I so mine.
I started off with some earbuds. I went kind of
like basic, just like the just little like you know,
air pods, and then that was my first one. My
second one, I went like with a large iced green tea,

(01:43:01):
like I'm not like Starbucks, could be like some coffee
bean or any kind of like like coffee shop, just
like ice green tea. My third thing would be like
a white SUV so like I with like black rims.
I don't want to say it looked like a range Rover,
but it kind of looked like a Range Rover evo okay,
And so I'd kind of be like a driving bree Barbie,

(01:43:21):
you know, because like I'm always on the road, so
I like to talk, so I have earbuds in my
ear while I'm driving because I'm on the freeway ninety
percent of my week. And then I obviously have my
green tea to keep me caffeinated. And i'd have a
cute car because when I had barbiees, I had a
ton of Barbie cars. Yeah, so those would be my
three accesisteries. Okay, Mark, you're up.

Speaker 5 (01:43:43):
How can I get past that one? Anyway? The first
thing I would have is a iPod, just with all
my music on it.

Speaker 2 (01:43:53):
Okay, Okay, you would go the iPhone.

Speaker 1 (01:43:55):
You gotta go old school iPod. I like it.

Speaker 5 (01:43:57):
I'm a person who likes to keep my stuff separated
on my fine phone and my iPod to be the
iPod with my music because I've heard that if your
music is on your phone and a phone call comes in,
it stops the music. I can't get that, okay, So
I have to have a separate iPod. And the other
thing I would have is I think I will my
white Sox hat. And then my third thing would be

(01:44:18):
a Keith or Keith Urban hoodie.

Speaker 1 (01:44:20):
I wear that a lot.

Speaker 5 (01:44:21):
So those are my three things.

Speaker 1 (01:44:22):
There's three. You know it's funny. You were talking about
the like fake kins and barbies you can make and
they would give you like three or four accessories. I
don't know why. There's there's two things that and this
has been added. This is now the second thing. I
love John Moran, I love, but all of the like

(01:44:43):
the gift where his celebrating where this celebration is AI
birds of the bitch. There's like a gun that he's
pointing at the bitch. Terrible. But every time I see it,
I just start cracking up uncontrollably, like right now, And
somebody sent me today g I JA which is John Moran.

(01:45:08):
And his three accessories are a rifle, a handgun and
a hand grenade. And I don't know why. I know
he keeps getting fine for it, and I can't stop
laughing about it. So I'm just apologizing before him. My
three things would be I think I'm like you. I
always have my AirPods in right, but I usually get

(01:45:28):
in trouble for it. I'll be home and my wife's like, hey, hey,
we had a conversation in the car today. I'm not
even lying, and she looked I looked at her, and
she looked at me. I feel like an R. Kelly song.
And she looked at me, and I looked at her,
and she goes, what do you think? And I have
no idea what she said? Still no clue brek, no

(01:45:49):
clue Mark. And I wore it. I said, you know what, babe,
I'm not gonna lie to you. I have no idea
what you just said. And she looked and she goes,
you have no idea what I just said? You said, yeah,
during the conversation twice it's like I did, I did.
So there would be that I find in that. I

(01:46:10):
think the iPhone comes with it, right. I've got to
have my Instagram reels. I've got to have that. That's
my addiction whenever I'm not you know, living in the
sports world. Got my podcast, I got that, So I
kind of consider those one in the same. The second
thing would be my tall Boy of bt ice, which
would have to be on there.

Speaker 2 (01:46:27):
Sheap our PBR.

Speaker 1 (01:46:29):
You know the problem with perhaps blue Ribbon right now
is that it's become kind of like a hipster thing,
so it's a little bit more expensive than it used
to be. I'm all about cheap beer. They have this
thing called bush ice. Ever heard of it. No, why
because it's terrible. It's a dollar forty nine for twenty
five ounces of beer. It's the greatest deal going right now.

(01:46:50):
So I would probably have like one of those in there,
just to make sure I you know, as Shane Gills
taughtest the couple beers, it's a great new medicine that
helps you deal with all the problems. And then the
third thing, I've got a I'm always wearing Sooner gear.
So I guess it would have to be like my
OU shirt or like Mark said, Mark's gonna have his

(01:47:11):
white Sox hat, right, So I think for me it
would be my my Oklahoma hat that I wear all
the time, like.

Speaker 3 (01:47:16):
A hat Revisor, Okay, Okay, so I want the Visors.

Speaker 1 (01:47:20):
For the longest.

Speaker 3 (01:47:21):
Time, I was gonna say, I remember that.

Speaker 1 (01:47:23):
I went with Visors for a long time and then
I kind of got a little bit too fat for him.
So I've gone back to I've gone back to ball
Caps until I can cut my weight down a bit.
Of course, having the butt ice or the PBR or
the bush ice is probably not gonna help that, but yeah,
those would be my three. Was there anything that was
closed that you were considering that missed the cut of

(01:47:44):
your three.

Speaker 3 (01:47:45):
I I was gonna do like a Drew Brees jersey,
like a cute little girls Yeah, a cute girl's jersey.
And then this this. The other thing I was kind
of thinking was a Phoenix suns like Steve Nash jersey
kind of just you.

Speaker 1 (01:48:00):
Know, make it.

Speaker 2 (01:48:01):
Oh, so we were all thinking, we were all thinking gear.

Speaker 3 (01:48:03):
Yeah, yeah, for sure, because I mean, even though Lebron's
not wearing and that's my other issue with this. It's
like if he's just were like he's wearing like a
letterman jacket and like it's it just it just bothers
me because it's just like a talk.

Speaker 2 (01:48:17):
About the Barbie doll. Yeah, maybe I have a shirtless
warm up.

Speaker 3 (01:48:21):
No, no, I don't. Could I don't Isaiah my god,
But yeah, no, I don't know what it is. Like
I guess maybe like the wrestling Like like I guess
I'm just focusing on wrestling figurines like those are so cool,
you know, because maybe it's like Suett Hart has his sunglasses. Yeah,
like it's just you know, or you know, John Moxley
has like a chair that he's gonna beat somebody over

(01:48:41):
the head with. I don't know, but there's just something
he's just wearing, Like I've never seen Lebron wear that
outfit before. Like if he was wearing like a Lakers
jersey or something, maybe it'd be cooler to me. I
don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:48:53):
Mike, Mike the Leprechaun wonders if if there should be
a Mike the Leprechaun figuring, can you imagine what would.

Speaker 3 (01:48:59):
Be jokes included? You just press the hand and then
I would.

Speaker 1 (01:49:04):
Say, like anything golf related was close for me, like
a golf club, because I'm always I have this very
bad slash weird habit is, anytime I'm in a conversation
with someone that's going a little bit too long, I
start working on my golf swing just while they're talking.
We might we might be I'm just if you guys

(01:49:25):
can hit that video button on your radio right now,
like we could be sitting there talking like huh uh huh.
Then all of a sudden, I'll kind of get my
little grip. I'm like yeah, yeah, and I'll be like
working on my my swing, taking aback, kind of making
sure my my v is where it needs to be
and I'm getting the hand up like it needs to be,
so anything golf related would probably be in there for me.

(01:49:46):
What barely missed a cut?

Speaker 22 (01:49:47):
For you Mark anything, Well, now that you're talking about
golf stuff, I mean, yeah, I just have a you know,
just a bag of balls and yeah, just your a
wood or an iron or just going just go going
to matt and just you know, just hit a bunch.

Speaker 5 (01:50:00):
I mean, that would just be just golf gear. That
would be I would do.

Speaker 1 (01:50:04):
That whoever time. I don't know. It's it's every single
time that something like this happens, I wonder what's behind it.
Remember they had the a while back to did the
face scan where it would show you how when you
were older, what you would look like when you were old,
and I was.

Speaker 3 (01:50:18):
Like, they're stealing you.

Speaker 1 (01:50:20):
They're still in your facial resk recognition it, yeah, John them.
And then all of a sudden, now in almost kind
of lockstep with the release of the lebron Kin doll,
you have all of these abilities for everyone to do
their own Barbie doll. Who knew?

Speaker 2 (01:50:39):
There you go, Breeze three. You're right, that is excellent,
well done, Bing.

Speaker 3 (01:50:42):
I really enjoyed that. I'm not gonna lie.

Speaker 1 (01:50:45):
You're thinking it's because I never want to know. I
never want to know what the topic is. I always
want to be surprised by it. But as I'm sitting here,
I'm like, gosh, I know there's something more. Now. You
would my daughter, you could ask, we can get gwinn
on here, and she could give you things that I
missed that I probably would need. According to her, we
would need a radio because she's always listening to music

(01:51:06):
and always turning the station because it's not the song
that she likes or the app the I heard radio app.
But I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:51:13):
It's a that's a fun one.

Speaker 3 (01:51:15):
Yeah, I thought it was.

Speaker 1 (01:51:17):
Why Why did they have a Lebron doll again?

Speaker 3 (01:51:20):
Because they're trying to do like a Ken Ambassador series,
like something sports related. I think like Venus and the
Serena Williams did it last year for like Barbie, like
sports ambassadors. Okay, yeah, it's interesting. I don't really get it.
But he's the first male athlete to have it. So
he's just Lebron, He's just Ken.

Speaker 1 (01:51:41):
Whatever. Do you think everyone got that? No? But I
got it. Okay, thank you, I'm just Ken.

Speaker 2 (01:51:50):
We watched we watched it, Mark got it.

Speaker 1 (01:51:54):
We watched the Barbie movie so much you have no
and I got to tell you something.

Speaker 2 (01:51:58):
I can admit this now to very early in the morning.

Speaker 1 (01:52:01):
It gets me every time, every single time gets me
every time. By the way. For the best pregame show
and probably not talking about Barbie Dolls, you can catch
our buddy Brian both Saturday and Sunday on Fox Sports
Radio's Countdown presented by bet MGM every Saturday and Sunday
morning from nine a to noon Eastern and sixty nine
am Pacific time. Count you down, along with his host

(01:52:23):

Speaker 2 (01:52:26):
Games and events.

Speaker 1 (01:52:27):
Tuning in a Countdown presented by bet MGM every Saturday
and Sunday morning right here on Fox Sports Radio and
the iHeart Radio app. You know what, just kind of
registered it with me. We'll be we'll be able to
do a full NBA Final, our NBA Playoff previous show
next Friday night. Let's go all right, k fig is
going to join us in studio a little crossover next

(01:52:48):
Fox Sports Radio. I think this is a first in
the history of our very short history of our show.

(01:53:09):
Welcome back. It's the Plank Show here on Fox Sports
Radio and live from the tire rack dot Com Studios.
He's coming up next with the fellas. Kevin figures is
in the house. What's going on? Kfake? How are you man?
My favorite sooner, Chris Blank? What's going on? Brother? Been
a while? Been a while, all right? So I got
zero traction or reaction tonight on the Nico story. Nobody cares,

(01:53:29):
nobody wants to talk about and I know you will.
I know you want to. So what do you make
of this? Do we have our first holdout in college football? Yeah,
it's pretty revolutionary and pretty I think ridiculous in some senses.
And look, I don't necessarily blame Nico to a certain degree.
This is just how the system is in college football.
What's big business.

Speaker 23 (01:53:49):
These guys are semi professionals at this point in time.
And if he wants to treat himself like that and say, hey,
if I go out at this spring practice and I
end up getting injured and it costs me money in
the future or what have you, I can see that
being an issue. But I mean, the idea that we
call these guys student athletes has completely gone by the
wayside by the decision that he's making at this point
in time to have a college football player who is

(01:54:10):
the leader of the team not show up to practice
because he's working on his NIL deal. I never thought
in a trillion years, Chris I would hear about a
story about this.

Speaker 2 (01:54:19):
It really just tells you the direction that college football is.

Speaker 1 (01:54:22):
Continuing to go in.

Speaker 23 (01:54:24):
And I don't know what the end game is ultimately
going to be, but I feel like we're inching closer
and closer. It might not happen tomorrow, might not happen
next year, It might not happen in five years. College
football might break off and become its own entity. And
these guys are gonna end up being collectively bargaining and
becoming professionals or semi professionals. Because this is a slippery
slope that's going to just continue to continue to go downhill.

Speaker 1 (01:54:44):
Something's got to change, right and maybe the rev share
will do that. But I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:54:49):
I thought it was an amazing story.

Speaker 1 (01:54:50):
Not a Brie, not a single Balls fan tonight, Well,
like I am so heartbroken over that. I mean, let's
this was a moment where Tennessee fan could un on
this dude if they're Matt but it's maybe they get it,
Maybe they get it. Kay fag. Maybe they realize, hey,
this is where we are right now, there's no rules
for now, and if you're gonna try to get more

(01:55:11):
money like apparently he's trying to get, go for it.
Speaking of that, our buddy Derek Carr is hurt again,
which is Free's favorite quarterback. I know she hates him
so much, but I'm curious your thoughts on our quarterback.
What do you think of getting Geno Smith? And why
am I suddenly liking it when I couldn't stand him
when he was in Seattle.

Speaker 23 (01:55:31):
Because you've seen the state of the Raiders quarterback position
dating back the last ten, twelve, fifteen years whatever it's been,
including Derek Carr, and this is probably the best hat
you've done in that time span. Now, look, Gino Smith
is probably there's tiers of quarterbacks, Chris, like you know,
you have your elites, you have above average, average, below average,
and Gino Smith is probably somewhere's heatering between the above

(01:55:51):
average and average camp, which is world's above. Where the
Raiders have had over the last couple of seasons. Sure,
you know, defensively, when they're healthy, they're a pretty good
They had their spots the two years ago. Offensively, they
had obviously a lot of issues last year. They bringing
in the new regime with a competent quarterback, hopefully you
can get them a bit of a running game, whether

(01:56:11):
that's Asking Gent or somebody else. Look, the AFC West
is going to be an extremely tough division, obviously. I
think a win for the Raiders is to be fighting
and scrapping, to be to hover around five hundred for
the majority of this season and just try to get better.
And I think Geno Smith gives you an opportunity to
do that. At the very least, Chris, you have a
legitimate NFL quarterback under center, which is something the Raiders

(01:56:33):
have not had for years.

Speaker 1 (01:56:34):
Is this wild that I'm filled with optimism right now?
Is this okay?

Speaker 23 (01:56:39):
No, it's okay because it's April twelfth and everybody's filled
with optimism, so it makes all the sense in the world.
But on a serious tip, yes, because brock Bauers had
such a phenomenal season last year despite the fact that
they had nobody at the quarterback position. The offensive line
at times in spots played decently, So you know, you
need to be a running back. And when you had
a running game with Josh Jacobs, and they still never

(01:57:00):
should have let him go.

Speaker 2 (01:57:01):
That was a giant mistake that they're regretting.

Speaker 23 (01:57:04):
With Gino Smith last year he turned the ball over
a lot, but when he had a running game a
couple of years prior in Seattle, he was actually pretty solid.
So I think it's good to be optimistic for the Raiders.
I think they can actually have a solid season onw
what that looks like. Again, I think for them between
eight and ten wins will be phenomenal. But if you're
looking at twelve thirteen winning the division, I think that's

(01:57:24):
a little bit rich for me. But to say that
they can compete in the AFC West, to compete for
a wild card spot in the AFC, I don't think
it's completely and totally crazy right now.

Speaker 1 (01:57:34):
I like the moves that are being made. It seems
like a competent franchise. Which again I was on the
Antonio Pierce train. I liked him a lot, but I
just I don't know. I hate to say he wasn't ready.
I don't know if he was like serious enough for it.
I think he had good ideas and surrounded himself with
good people. They missed on the quarterback right. They never

(01:57:54):
got the quarterback right, and that was the doom for
both him and Tom to LESCo.

Speaker 2 (01:57:58):
I just I feel like things have settled a little bit.

Speaker 1 (01:58:01):
Maybe that's part Pete Carroll, maybe that's part I don't know,
it's just a table. Yeah, they haven't lost the game yet.
Maybe it's a combination of both.

Speaker 23 (01:58:10):
Well, you kind of have an adult in the room,
no disrespect to Antonio Pierce, but with the you have
a legit head coach in Pete Carroll. You know, Spy
Texas his first year as a general manager, but obviously
he's going to be helped along by Pete who was
the president of the football ops with Seattle and obviously
had a phenomenal run. Tom Brady's having a heavy hand
and a heavy say and what's going on in an organization,
which I think is a positive. So I think your

(01:58:31):
optimism for where the organization is headed is warranted because
they've been so rudderless and have had so many coaches
and so many regimes over these last even five years.
I think Pete Carroll, even given his age, knows how
to build a program. And the question for me is
what that succession plan looks like. If this ends up
going well and Pete is out of the door within

(01:58:51):
the next three to four years, Is that Chip Kelly?
Is that somebody else? But for right now, I don't
want to get too far ahead of ourselves. I'm optimistic
just like you are.

Speaker 1 (01:59:00):
Hey, I got about thirty seconds here. You think the
Lakers can win the West.

Speaker 2 (01:59:04):
One thousand percent?

Speaker 23 (01:59:05):
Absolutely, And I think matchups and I never would have
thought I'd said this been coming into the season. But
the Western Conference is wide open, and the Lakers the
way they've been playing, especially defensively. They had a little
bit of a dip on Lebron when not with his
growing injury a few weeks ago. We know what they
can do on offense with Lebron, Luca and Austin Reeze.
But the way they played defensively, especially with their small
ball lineup, they can stack up with anybody in the

(01:59:27):
Western Conference. Cleveland or Boston will be tough. But you
know what, that's an issue that Laker fans will deal
with because that means they're in the NBA Finals.

Speaker 1 (01:59:34):
That's right, Hey, enjoy the fella's coming up next. K Fig.

Speaker 2 (01:59:37):
It's great to chop things up with you man, have
a great Saturday.

Speaker 1 (01:59:39):
Bud, Thank you, Chris, you too, Man appreciate this. Kevin
Figures He's coming up next with Anthony Gargano, Bree, great idea.
I love talking with kfig That's my guy. We share
all the same sports likes, so it's kind of cool
to hang out and talk with him. Pretty great job tonight,
Mark awesome. As always. We'll be back next Friday night
with a full NBA playoff preview. Don't forget I'm back

(02:00:02):
on Sunday Night with Arnie Spanier from ten p to
one A Central And as you just heard, Kevin Figures
Anthony Gargano coming up next on Fox Sports Radio
