Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. It is that
time of week. My name is Bernie Frattle. We are
coming to you live from the tyraq dot com studios
here in Las Vegas. Fox Sports Radio tirec dot Com

(00:27):
should be. I can rarely remember a week with so
many sports headlines. Heading into tonight's show, We're need to
get to all of them. We've got NFL draft stuff,
and of course, one of the biggest questions facing the
nation truly a constitutional crisis. We don't where will should

(00:48):
Dors Sanders be drafted. We'll get to that a little
bit later. We got NBA stuff, we got Master stuff.
Later on, we got brand new fool what my name,
But we have to begin with what I truly now
believe is a genuine inflection point in this newly new fangled, wacky,
wild wild West world called the NIL Portal. Starting Thursday,

(01:13):
was reported that Tennessee, well, former Tennessee quarterback Nico Yama
Liava was embroiled in a pretty pretty fiery contract contract negotiation,
A contract negotiation with University of Tennessee over as anil deal.
Now it's been reported he has a two point four

(01:35):
million dollar deal annually, but his reps were seeking to
increase this to about four million. And why not. According
to Paul Finbaum, he's the sixth rated quarterback in the SEC.
But I digress.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
This demand led to a Liava saying, what the hell,
I don't need to go to spring practice. I think
I'll just take the day off and that started to
cost speculation about his potential transfer. Back in the day.
It used to call that a holdout, but then he
was set it at the Natural Airport. Some rumors are

(02:16):
he was headed back to LA where he's from, perhaps
talking to ECLA. And what this has done now is
created a situation a dividing line opinions among fans and analysts.
There are some that would argue he was overpaid giving
his performance last season two point four million. I think

(02:38):
that's more in Brock perdigod, while there are others arguas
potential justifies the higher salary. So what we had here
is real genuine drama, but what it has done is sparked,
I believe a much broader debate on the effects of
NIL deals on college sports, questioning whether they align with

(02:58):
or they undermine what the values are and the traditional
values are with who you're working for and what your
objectives are and the world known as once known as
college athletics. So fast forward, Tennessee has moved on from
quarterback Nico after he decided to miss meetings and miss
practice Friday. Josh Hype will confirm that Saturday. He said, quote,

(03:22):
it's the state of college football. At the end of
the day, no one is ever bigger than the program
that includes me too. Now, apparently they had been negotiating
a new Iile deal. Remember the transfer portal for football
opens up Wednesday, April sixteenth, and we're going to get

(03:45):
into this much heavier next Saturday show. And a little
later in the show, I'm going to talk about you know,
the already what twenty two hundred basketball players that have
entered the portal, et cetera, et cetera. And you know,
once Nico misspracticed miss meetings, there was the communication ad

(04:06):
for all intents and purposes ended and he entered the
portal and Nico did not attend Saturday spring game. Now,
he was reportedly once the highest paid college quarterback in
the country, but as is the case, several have passed
him up. The dude's only twenty years old and his reps,

(04:30):
and this is slay, His reps were looking for a
deal that would pay him four million a year. He's
got three years of eligibility left, by the way, so
welcome in red shirt freshman Jake Murklinger and true freshman
George McIntyre. They're the only other scholarship quarterbacks in Tennessee's roster.

(04:50):
The good news is Mercklinger completed sixty six for the
son of his passes last year, but only threw nine
of them for forty eight yards, So Tennessee, you're going
to be breaking in a quarterback wet behind the years.
Nico appeared in eighteen games since joining Tennessee, through for
just under three thousand yards totally un touchdowns, five interceptions,

(05:13):
and he's probably most remembered, I would say, likely for
his performance against Ohio State. He got chased around pretty good.
He was fourteen to thirty one fo one hundred and
four yards and they got smoke forty two to seventeen.
He competed, but he didn't set the world on fire.

(05:35):
But the irony here is, according to Bill Bender of
The Sporting News, he believes there's going to be a
swarm of teams that are going to take a hard
look at Nico as he shops for a new home.
And the question is could how State one of them?
And Bender said, quote, it sounds crazy, but he won't
rule out Ryan Day. Yeah, the Buckeyes won a national

(05:57):
championship last year with a first year transfer coquarterre back
and Will Howard. And from what I understand, the Buckeye
folks were somewhat impressed with Nico and their loss to
the buck Eyes. And you know, the Ohio State has
two quarterbacks on their roster right now that are fighting

(06:17):
for the job, Julian Sayan and Lincoln kliin Holes, but
neither one apparently as the sort of themselves. So if
Ohio State were to make this move, they'd probably would
be looking at Nico as a one year rental for
a national championship run again next year. By the way,
if you're scoring at home, and I hope you are,

(06:39):
Ohio State is the odds on favorite here in Las
Vegas by the betting markets to win the national championship. Again,
don't rule out what Bill Bender said, crazy your things
have happened apparently from the people you talk to in
Columbus right now, Julian Sign would be the starting quarterback.

(07:00):
He struggled in the spring practice and it was very concerning.
And the other kid kind host has been very up
and down. So not a warm and fuzzy feeling. You
take that into consideration. Not that far fetch for Ohio
State to, you know, perhaps snatch up Yamo Diyava and
maybe you let one of the other two qbs sit
out for a year and roll with him in twenty

(07:21):
twenty six this listen. I don't want to dwell on
this too much right now because it's all new, but
I gotta tell you, I think we are at an
inflection point because his teammates, his coaches, they're all depending
on him. And you know, two point four million is

(07:42):
nothing to sneeze that for a twenty year old. I
believe he's going to enter the NFL draft after next year,
forgo his final two years of eligibility, and so I'm
not so sure what his hurry is to get that
extra million six. You know, but I don't something about
this doesn't feel right. You can draw your own conclusions,

(08:05):
but I would just say that we're now in We're
now in very much uncharted territory. I truly believe we're
very much in uncharted territory as far as this NIO
portal thing goes. We'll see where the story happens. The
other goofball story this week, although more news is coming out.
Michael Malone, the head coach of the Denver Nuggets, got fired.

(08:28):
We'll talk a little bit more about that with Mark
Madina coming up here in about ten minutes. And uh,
I guess you should, you know, we should feel surprised
because you just won a championship and you know, the
year before last. But if you take a look at
this pattern in the last six years, of the last
seven coaches to win the NBA Championship, including now Mike

(08:51):
Malone Michael Malone as he likes to be called, five
have been fired Malone, Mike Budenholzer with the Bucks last
year after winning it. Frank Vogel, Remember Frank Vogel won
a championship with the Lakers, and they're on their second
coach since him. Nick Nurse is the Toronto Raptors back
in twenty nineteen, and then Tyleru of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

(09:12):
Five and the last seven coaches to win the NBA championship.
I'm wondering if I signed on next week with Mark
Medinna if the news beat Joel Missoula got fired in Boston.
For those of you who listened selectively, we're just kidding
around here. Okay. By the way, Steve Kerr, he's won
four of them, he's still around. Joel Missoula, they're the
other two that won the last seven championships. They're still

(09:33):
gainfully employed. But it's not just.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
The NBA.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Of the last six National League Managers of the Year,
five were fired within two seasons or less now. Pat
Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers was manager of the Year
last year. He's still gainfully employed. But Skip Schumacher was
manager of the Year in Miami in twenty twenty three,
got fired at Dan of the last year. Buck Showa

(10:00):
twenty twenty two. The Mets sent him packing at the
end of twenty twenty three. Gabe Kapler, manager of the
air for the Giants. He was fired also at the
end of twenty twenty three. Don Mattingly. The last year
he was he was the manager in Miami was twenty
twenty and he got fired. Two years later he was
manager of the air and finally Mike Shilt of the

(10:20):
Saint of Louis Cardinals was manager of the Year and
in twenty nineteen. He was fired two years later in
twenty twenty one. So where am I going with that? Hell,
I don't know. Mamas. Don't let your babies grow up
to be NBA coaches or Major League Baseball managers, at
least in the National League. Hey, be sure to check

crystal ball and when you sign on next Saturday, we'll

Celtics and leave at the playoffs.

Speaker 6 (12:35):
But I, oh wow, let's let's uh say, Kenny Atkinson,
maybe he was a Coach of the Year candidate, but
they lose game in Cleveland and something happens.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
You trump me, you want up me? They're a big fellow.
Or how about how about you'll get your drafted or
traded for Lebron How about that?

Speaker 6 (12:54):
Oh, that would that would be a game changer, that would.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Guarantee the Lakers a championship.

Speaker 6 (12:58):
How about all the end the Lakers say, you know what,
Luca Dodgers, good riddance, We'll trade you back to Dallas.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
Wow, we're having some fun with this. By the way,
just so the folks know, neither one of us have
been drinking, So I relax, everybody. Hey, let's start with
the Mike Malone thing, because the narrative initially was quizzical
and people were nonplussed. But I think more information has
come out now, so why don't you give us the
chronology there?

Speaker 6 (13:24):
Well? I think, yeah, no doubt more information comes out,
but I still don't think it was the right decision.
I mean, what happened here is the Denver Nuggets. They
have been good, but not great. They've been inconsistent all season,
even though Nikola Jokic has been remarkably inconsistent with averaging
a triple double and possibly win another MVP Award. But

(13:44):
why there's been inconsistency Lots of injuries in Jamal Murray
and Aaron Gordon. Jamal is still hurt. You know, They've
had a lot of ups and downs, so trying to
lean on their young guys after having a lot of
good veterans as supporting casts as part of that championship
run two years ago, and Calvin Booth the general manager

(14:04):
and Michael Malone the head coach, they weren't seeing eye
eye because Calvin Booth was trying to put further investment
in the young players, and Michael Malone is like a
lot of head coaches, they tend to trust veterans, and
so things came in an impass. But I think here's
where this was the wrong decision. One, you don't make
this kind of decision just before the playoffs start if

(14:25):
you're going to do what you do when the offseason
has number two, I don't think that they are the
right people to blame here. I mean Calvin Booth that's
taken marching orders from ownership to find ways of trim
costs because the NBA has fit all these new rules
with second apron penalties. So he's done that. Now there's
a fair criticism. Sometimes he's hit on some young guys,

(14:49):
sometimes he's missed. But with Michael Malone doesn't make any sense.
He's been the same coach that guide them to a championship,
even though they've been you know, may have had play
frustrations about his voice. That happens all the time, and
so if they were going to make a decision, should
have been until once the offseason hits and showed just

(15:10):
been Calvin Booth, because now all you're doing is creating
more chaos. And Nikola Jokic, I have to stress, hasn't
given any signal that he doesn't want to stay in Denver.
But when you're doing all these dysfunctional things, when you
have a transcendent superstar in his prime, I mean you
can connect the dots here. It's not a good strategy
to try to keep not only maximizing everything you have

(15:34):
with the star player, but convincing that that's the right
organization to want to be with moving forward.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
A couple takeaways. It's been reported that David Adelman, who's
going to at least for now assume the head coaching
rule for at least during the playoffs, is actually very
respected among the players, and the temperature in the room
has decreased quite a bit. The other thing, too, is
how much truth is there to the rumor or that's

(16:02):
which rumor, the allegation that the way Michael Malone elected
to use Russell Westbrook was the source of the frustration
between him and Calvin Booth.

Speaker 6 (16:14):
Well, two things here with David Adaman. Yes, he's a
very well respected coach. You know, his dad was the
late Rick Adelman. He's a great head coach, hall of famer.
So I think within that whole confines the transition won't
be as drastic as if you know, they hired someone
from the outside just before the playoffs started. As far

(16:36):
as you know Michael Malone with Russell Westbrook, I think
that's just one of many examples. You know, Russell Westbrook
has been, as we know, frankly a journeyman ever since
the debac with the Lakers. You've seen flashes of what
makes them great. But you've also seen a lot of
things that explain why he's been a journeyman. But head

(16:57):
coaches tend to trust veterans, So it's not just at RUSS,
it's about the entire dynamic here or Michael Malone, he
puts trust in veteran players than some of the young players.
Now there are some exceptions, Christian Brown, for example, he's
been a really good young player, But when you're looking
at the rest of the roster here, Michael Malones really

(17:17):
relied on as veteran players because that's what he coaches do.
But I think there was a feeling that it was
going to the extreme that because it was a veteran player,
it was almost a way to try to undermine Calvin
Booth here. But again I understand the frustration that both
sides would have here, and the reality is I think
of ownership, you know, showed support around this whole situation.

(17:41):
There wouldn't have been that kind of environment because again
Calvin Booth has taken orders here to try to trim
costs because of salary cap penalties, and so I think
with that there should have been a stronger message from
ownership and showing more patience and grace toward both parties,

(18:02):
so that you know they wanted to kind of have
these these you know, tension field moments throughout the season
that would become untenable.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Talk with Martin Medina Medina Magic every Saturday night here
on the Bernie Fraders Show, our Fox Sports Radio NBA guru.
You mentioned in your narrative there, ever so gently, the
word MVP. I typically don't much care about that conversation,
but we're going to invoke it tonight for a couple
of reasons. First, I'm quite sure that Kendrick Perkins will

(18:35):
lose his mind if Nicola Jokic wins it again, it'd
be four out of five years. It would be that
as it may. If I have, if I had a vote,
and who knows, maybe they'll give me one, I probably
would have to give it to Shay Gilgs for one
simple reason. This team won almost seventy games, and they
were without Isaiah Hartenstein and Check Holmgren for some formative

(18:58):
parts of the season, as it were, and he seemed
to really pick up the slack and that's the kind
of thing an MVP does makes everybody around him better.
But also puts you on on your back. Uh when
when you know, when when things aren't going well. You
can make the same case for Nikola Jokich managed you know,
average a triple double this year. But I think I'd
have to give the nod.

Speaker 7 (19:18):
To s g A.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
Who wins it? And who would you vote for?

Speaker 6 (19:21):
Yeah, look, this is going to be a tight race.
But here here I'm just going to pass some information
along it. Okay, I did a column rap on sports saying,
you know exactly almost what you said that I would
choose Shay gilgis Alexander for all the reasons. How you
outlined that he's races game another level. Uh, the Thunder
first place in the West and even though Nikola Jokich

(19:42):
is a triple double machine and the Nuggets are still
in the playoffs, and yeah, they had all this turmoil
that we talked about. Uh, the Thunder could have very well,
you know, underachieved here. They had overlapping injuries as you mentioned,
which had holmegern Isaiah Hartenstein. You know, they were they
are still a young team. And when you're looking at

(20:03):
the depth that they have, they had that depth partly
because of shake Yellow is Alexander with the gravity that
he creates and how improved he is as a playmaker.
And here's what's interesting, Bernie, I think that this is
going to be a tight race. But I talked to about,
let's say, three assistant coaches and a few scouts earlier

(20:24):
this week. They all said, shake goldus Alexander. So I'm
not going to say it's lopside because that's a really small,
stable sized I thought it was really striking that every
basketball personnel person I talked to, while they did say yeah,
it's a tight race, and I understand Jokic and all
the counterpoints they went, they wound up choosing SGA basically

(20:45):
for the same reasons that you outlined.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
Well, they have one more games, they do have the
number one seed, and uh, you know, I I think
this is something we could go back and forth on
for a long time. If you took Guesguf Oklahoma City,
they'd still win fifty games. I think if he took
you'll catch off of Denver. I don't know what they do,
but but look, it's one of those imponderables. I think

(21:11):
these are highly subjective, and I do think because Jokic
has won three to the last four, that'll work against him.
Am I wrong? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (21:19):
I know.

Speaker 6 (21:19):
Howard beckover at The Ringer did a really good story
about the whole idea with voter fatigue. I don't want
to say it doesn't exist, but he's looked at the
history and it really suggests that voter fatigue isn't a
significant variable among voters. Again, not saying it doesn't exist,
but I only think it's a primary factor. I think
that for the people who are going to vote for SGA,

(21:41):
it's basically they're having the same thought that you had
that you know, he's taken his game to another level.
They want to reward a team the player on the
team with the best record. They're also mindful that if
he's now on the team, they would look much different.
And also maybe because they're having to split hairs between

(22:03):
two really good candidates with Nikoli Jokic, they're looking at
you know what, This isn't necessarily his fault, but you
have to be able to help mitigate circumstances, and certainly
he has with his own performances, but he hasn't been
able to do that with elevating everyone else around him.
Obviously takes two to tango. Nikoli Hokich is a great playmaker.

(22:25):
So don't get me wrong. I think that's where you know,
the SGA supporters would would lean on. And I think
that the Jokic supporters would look at the numbers, the
triple double averages, the fact that you know, because of
all this turmoil, there's still a playoff team, and also
imagine if Jokic wasn't there what they would look like.
So what I'm gaining at here, Bernie is it's a

(22:47):
really tough decision, and it's put I think voters that
are going to actually be voting for this awards, ballt
and people around the league, coaches, executives in a position
that they're splitting hairs because Nikole Jokic and Shake Godsaw
was in a just two really great players that are

(23:08):
great MVP cans this season. I don't think that you
can say that for every single VP race.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
That's very true. All right, I want to talk about
another mercurial team that I think a lot of people
are going to be really paying attention to this week.
And it's interesting because here we are on Sundays, the
final day of the NBA season, and Steph is called
the Warriors Clippers contest he's li liken it to a
game seven, which you know, you know, he may not

(23:37):
be wrong. But I want to talk about the Lakers
because if you look at their their arc this year,
in early January, they were basically five hundred, they were
like twenty and seventeen, and then they you know, they
were without brought Lebron for ten days and struggled. But
in their last thirty seven games, they've won twenty seven
and that equates to about a sixty win team. So

(24:00):
that may be who they are when the playoffs start.
Now set that aside, because the Clippers. I'm going to
come back to that. The Clippers play the Warriors in
Golden State. They tip off at about thirteen hours here.
Who do you expect to prevail on that game? Because
if the Warriors do, they'll be the sixth seed and

(24:21):
the Lakers and the Warriors would face off in round one,
which means you the Lebron's Steph is going home after
one round.

Speaker 6 (24:29):
Yeah, it's gonna be wild. Who I think wins between
the Clippers and the Warriors. Anything can happen here, but
I think because the Warriors are at home, they feel
the urgency to win, to try to avoid the playing
that they're going to prevail. Now, that might just set
them up to be the sixth seed as you mentioned.
And look, the Lakers are playing their best basketball, so

(24:52):
are the Warriors. But if I had to choose, even
with the Lakers having home court advantage, I would choose
the Warriors because They're defense is on a whole other level.
Draymond Green is being back to Draymond Green, and Jimmy
Butler is a great wing defender, and they got Kevon Looney,
he's a good rebounder. They have a lot of good

(25:13):
defensive depth. Jonathan Caminga has grown a lot, you know,
both sides of the ball. Here we're with the Lakers. Yes,
they definitely surpassed my expectations on how they would defend
without Anthony Davis, But I do wonder how that can
hold up in a seven game series. I don't have
any questions on Lebron James's health, the chemistry that he

(25:35):
has with Luca Doctrich, even some of the role players
with how well they can hit outside shots. But you know,
even in today's modern MBA, we're scorings at a premium,
you still need to defend at a high level. And
even though the Lakers have been doing that, the Warriors
are just in a whole other stratus there. So I
would choose the Warriors to win a first round matchup

(25:55):
their even without home court advantage.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
That's my understanding. Also that even if the Warriors lose Sunday,
if Minnesota loses, the Warriors would capture the sixth seed.
Is that correct? And I'm gonna I got my notes here,
I'll look. That's what I'm understanding.

Speaker 6 (26:12):
Yeah, that is what I'm understanding too. Here, I mean,
what the here's what's happening. We only have clarity on
three teams. The thunder got the first seed, the Rockets
got the second seed, Lakers got the third seed. If
the Nuggets win, they got the fourth seed. The Clippers
they're basically fighting, likely for the fifth spot, but if

(26:32):
the Nuggets lose, they can move up to number four.
With the Warriors, they're mostly playing to secure that sixth
spot and avoid the play in. But look, you have
Minnesota that's tied with the Warriors. You have the Grizzlies
that are a game back. You have Sacramento they're completely out.
So you're talking about Minnesota and Memphis. If either of

(26:55):
those two teams win and the Warriors lose. Now they're
in the plans again, Clippers and Warriors. It's mostly winning
to maintain their position and also avoid the playing tournament.
But some of this also hinges on what Denver has
going for the Clippers and what Minnesota and Memphis have

(27:17):
going for the Warriors.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
You got to believe both the Warriors and the Timberwolves
are kicking themselves. The Timberwolves gave up a twenty four
point lead to Milwaukee earlier this week, and then Harrison
Barnes really stuck it to the Warriors that game, winning
three point I'm sure you saw that Wednesday night beat
his former team.

Speaker 6 (27:33):
Yeah, the Warriors are really fright about that loss to
the Spurs. Exactly what you said. I mean, it's a
missopportunity the Spurs. You know, they're obviously a well respected team,
but without Victor one Binyama because of this health situation,
they've been in rebuild notes. So they had that game,
they coughed it up, and it very well could bite them.
But you know what, they still have one game left

(27:56):
to salvage everything. So I do expect them to go
on out and I think that they will walk away
with a win against the Clippers.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
All Right, a couple more things here, just stay on
the Clippers sort of neatly tucked away that I don't
know if anybody really realizes the Lakers, even though they've
got a lot of press clippings this year for obvious reasons,
they've won exactly one more game than the Clippers the
entire season. Why don't the Clippers get any more love
when they're getting well?

Speaker 6 (28:24):
I think it's always about wait and see mode. Are
you actually going to be healthy in the postseason, because
since Kawhi Leonard has joined the Clippers in twenty nineteen,
that hasn't been the case. I think the other thing,
even with having a good team, they have their own
arena out into a dome, They're never going to capture
the hearts and minds of fans in that way because

(28:46):
it's a Laker town. So I mean, that's really what
it comes down to. But look, it's very well possible
that for the first time ever, the Clippers and the
Lakers actually match up in the playoffs, and that would
be captivating in itself, because again, ever since Kawhi Leonard
joined the Clippers, it thought there was a thought that
it was inevitable that the Lakers and Clippers would face

(29:08):
off each other first it was a Western Conference finals matchup.
Then some years they'll meet in the second round or
a first round. Hasn't happened yet, so you know, technically
it could happen at a didn't given moment her.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
No very true. Wrapping it up with Mark Medina Medina
Magic and Fox Sports Radio NBA Guru. You hear them
all around the networking on my Showlder Bernie Fradershow every
Saturday night, same time. I want to talk every so
quickly about Oklahoma City. I saw a stat earlier this week,
Mark that they're nine to nine versus the Rockets, Denver,

(29:45):
Golden State Warriors, the Lakers in Minnesota, but they're fifty
five and five against everybody else. Might their youth rear
its head in the playoffs, Well, how do you expect
them to fare?

Speaker 6 (30:00):
Yeah, that you don't want to discount those stats because
you know those are all good teams, and you know
usually that can provide a little bit of a blueprint
for what a team could look like in the playoffs.
But I will say that the playoffs are much different
than in the regular season because now you have time
to really micro analyze a team and prepare and make adjustments.

(30:24):
I think the Thunder, I'm not going to say they're invincible.
They're not the Golden State Warriors when Kevin Durant was
on the team with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. But
they have a pretty complete team, and I don't think
that they are, you know, this young team that isn't
ready for the moment. They went through their playoff shortcomings
last season. But I will say that the Rockets have

(30:45):
been defending an elite level. The Lakers and the Warriors
have waiting in a bottle with their post trade deadline
moves with Luca Dodgers with the Lakers, Jimmy Butler with
the Warriors. I think the Nuggets are too dysfunctional right now.
The Clippers, they are fully healthy at this point, and
again you have to knock on Wood about that, but

(31:06):
they could ask for a better, you know, plays circumstances
from that from a health standpoint, than what the Clippers
are having entering the postseason.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
So all those.

Speaker 6 (31:15):
Teams I think very well have a chance to upset
the Thunder. I just want to put my money on it.
But you know what, that's why we're going to talk
about all this every week. That's why all these games
are going to be amazing, because there's a lot of unpredictability.
We have a cent on how all these things can
play out, but because of all the moving parts, it's
inevitable that there's going to be some sort of upset,

(31:37):
an unexpected outcome.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
I can't remember the last time I've looked forward in
earnest to the NBA playoffs as I have this year,
and that's I'm being deadly serious here because there are
so many storylines and I have to finish with this one.
My good buddy Doug Anderson, a whole high school football
buddy who's a big doctor in Brea, is credible stat Maven,

(32:01):
and he sent me this stat. Bronnie James has made
nine of his last twenty one three point shots. Nine
of his last twenty one Bronnie James three pointers. Yeah,
and you, I know you were probably aware of that,
but so will Bronnie James perhaps logs some playoff minutes.

Speaker 6 (32:17):
That was amazing. I thought we were actually gonna get
through an entire segment not talking about Broddiy Jenis for
the first time season, and no, I know, and I
was actually gonna say something as we signed off. Here
we go, Will Bronnie James playing the playoffs? I doubt it,
h He has been a fan favorite during mop up
duty and I don't think that you know they're going

(32:40):
to roll the dice here. But look, I didn't think
that he would be thrown in the middle of a
game like he was in Philadelphia that I wound up
backfiring against the Lakers when they lost that game. But
he has gotten minutes, and I will say in erence
to Browny compared to the beginning of the season when
he made that debut in Minnesota, he's a much improved player.
I just don't think that that means playoffs then it's

(33:01):
quite yet.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
Fair enough power, But that Philly game worked out well
for Tyres maxive that story for a different Yeah, Mark,
kn't wait too the protection.

Speaker 6 (33:08):
Will we talk Brownie James at any point in the
playoffs as soon.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
Well, we'll talk it. We just you know, may have
to drum something up, but right, all right, were already
looking forward to next Saturday night. Great stuff is always.

Speaker 6 (33:19):
Mark, Thank you, pal, I appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
Mark Bendina Medina Magic are Fox Sports Radio NBA Guru
coming up. We're nineteen minutes away from the midnight Hour.
We have three excellent topics. The callers have been superb.
Start worming up your fingers eight seven seven ninety nine
one Fox eight seven seven nine nine six six three
sixty nine. I'll set up the topics. The midnight Hour
coming up. I'm Bernie Fratto. We are coming to live

(33:43):
from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, tyrec dot Com Studios.
Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Frale Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Back on the Bernie Frale Show.
By the way, calm the chaos with the shipping software
that delivers. Use code Sports for a free trial at
shipstation dot com. That's shipstation dot com code Sports, and

(34:07):
be sure to tune into Draft Night Live Thursday, April
twenty fourth, at eight pm Eastern throughout the first round
of the draft, or on Saturday. Glazer, former Jets general
manager Joe Douglas, College Football Hall of Famer LeVar Arrington,
and Fox Sports lead college football reporter Jenny Taff will
have picked by pick, predictions and reactions to every first

(34:28):
round pick. That's Thursday, April twenty fourth, at eight pm
Eastern throughout the first round of the Draft, right here
live on Fox Sports Radio, brought to you by ship station.
All right the midnight hours upon US eleven minutes away
from where I sit. It is midnight literally figuratively where
you are, perhaps literally eight seven seven, nine to nine

(34:51):
on Fox. Callers have been great. Expect no different tonight. Really,
you want to hear what you've got to say. Right
about fourteen hours here, Rory McElroy will attempt to do
something he's never done. That's what a Masters. But if
he does, he'll join the likes of Gary Player and
Jack Nicholson Tiger Woods as the only golfers well, you

(35:14):
have to include Gene Sarazen and Ben Hogan that have
a career Grand Slam. But before we get to ahead
of myself, Tiger Woods is notably absent. Okay, now we
realize that injuries have been constant in the Tiger Woods
career in the last seventeen years, and when he won
the Masters or won the US Open on one leg
on that left knee injury, he had surgery recently repair

(35:36):
his rupture left achilles, and this time this injury feels
different Tiger's Tiger, but the human bodies, the human body.
Tiger turned fifty and six months and that's he's not
a good fifty, He's an old fifty. So here's my
question for the midnight hour. Will you watch the Masters Sunday?
Will you have the same level of interest even though
Rory McElroy is attempting to make history as if Tiger

(35:58):
would have been participating Sunday? And can golf ever have
the same kind of twenty year run that they had
with Tiger leading the pack? Can they ever do that? Again? Look,
golf is a sport in the United States, is very popular.
Professional golf not so much right now? Check me. So

(36:21):
what you watch mclroy try to make history and Tiger Woods?
Can golf ever have a run like that? Again? All right,
let's get to one of the great questions facing our society.
Will Shoot Door Sanders have success in the NFL. He

(36:42):
hasn't even played it down, He hasn't even drafted yet.
And I guarantee his career is going to be a
highly scrutinized one because whatever success he has is going
to hinge on his ability to overcome what his perceived
weaknesses are and capitalize on his strengths. He has strengths
accuracy and his adaptability, resilience. He may have a bigger ceiling.

(37:04):
His combine impressions were not great. He's had an inconsistent
performance at sometimes look at him in the Alimo Bowl.
I didn't care for his comments after Nebraska when he
asked the reporter how many times Dylan Riola got sacked?
There are questions about his pocket awareness and decision making.
Can he handle complex defense in fronts. He has a

(37:25):
tendency to hold a ball too long, which leads the sacks.
He's excelled with short passes. His inability to his ability
to till the deep ball accurately has also been questioned.
But he also has a lot of strengths, and he
has the right last name and the right pedigree. So
here's the question. Though Shador Sanders is telling everybody, I'm

(37:46):
a culture builder, I'm a culture builder. Okay. Well Sanders
did build the culture at Colorado, no two ways about it.
But it was Dion Sanders, in my opinion, not Shoodoor Sanders,
who built that culture at Colorado. Now Schudor did his part,
but I believe it was Dion. So do you believe
Shdoor Sanders is a culture builder? Do you think he's

(38:09):
more likely to be a super Bowl winner or a bust?
I want your thoughts, honest thoughts on shudor Sanders. It
can be based on objective truth, personal opinion feelings. I
don't care. Maybe you're just rooting for him. That's all good.
Remember the most boring conversations when everybody agrees. This third
topic is gonna be interesting. Credit my good buddy, Arnie Sperner.

(38:30):
He was talking about this the other day. Apparently the
other night on Law and Order they did an episode
and they invoked the WNBA. How many of you, by
the way, knew that the WNBA draft is Monday? You're
gonna watch it? Do you care? Are you gonna watch
the WNBA this year? Do they finally dig out of
their hold or they're gonna continue losing forty fifty million

(38:51):
dollars a year? I don't know. I don't know. Caitlin
Clark has done a lot, among others to build their popularity.
But if you're gonna feed you're the WNBA on a
Law and Order episode and even invoke Caitlin Clark's name,
that implies there's some awareness but I want to get
my callers thoughts. Will you watch the WNBA this year?

(39:13):
What are your thoughts? If you saw that Law and
Order episode? So we've got Rory McElroy attempting to make
history Sunday? Will you watch how badly do you miss
Tiger Woods? Can Golf ever replicate that again? Should or
Sanders more likely to be a Hall of Famer or
a bust? And is he a culture builder? Or was
really d on the culture builder? And the WNBA? Did

(39:35):
you know the draft was Monday? You're gonna watch this year?
By the way, if you want to talk about Nico
and the Tennessee, that's fine. I'm gonna get more heavily
into that next week because the transfer portal opens up
this week the midnight hours here eight seven, seven, nine
to nine on Fox. Let's hear from you. Bernie Frider
Show continues on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (39:58):
Yup, that's right, you heard the man. Bernie Fraddle Show
keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Fraddle. We

(40:19):
dot com the way tire buying should be. Callers are
the line up. I'm glad to have you. We're gonna
get to all you. Please be patient, want to hear
what you've got to say? Yup, it's that time. It's
a midnight hour eight seven seven nine nine six six
three six nine eight seven seven nine nine on Fox.
We're talking the Masters? Will Rory do it and make history?

(40:41):
How bad does the sport? Miss Tiger Woods? Will you
be watching Shador Sanders? Is he going to be a
pro bowler or a buster somewhere in between? Is he
a culture builder or not? And finally the WNBA, did
you know the draft was money? Are you gonna watch
us here? Give us your honest thoughts. Jim in Massachusetts
starts us off. Jim, you got the floor.

Speaker 3 (41:05):
Bernie.

Speaker 7 (41:06):
I think that it's come and gone. For golf, A
Tiger was a you know he he did for golf
what Burdon Magic did a the NBA?

Speaker 2 (41:16):
Good analogy?

Speaker 7 (41:17):
Yeah, and look how both both have taped it off
and viewership, you know, so I think that's that's the
story there. I think Rory, yeah, he could have a
good shot at you know, pressure, pressure might get to
him because you play against you're playing the course, the
start wood, which is in beautiful shape and everything like that.

(41:38):
But you got the other guy next here, who's you know,
if he if he runs off a couple two or
three birdies or something like that, then that gets in
your head and then it will be all about nerves.
It'll be interesting to watch Jim.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
You look, you're a knowledgeable guy. You remember last year
at the US Open, bryceon deshambro beat Rory McElroy And
I'll started early when McElroy choked a couple plots early
in the rest.

Speaker 7 (42:00):
Is history, Yeah exactly. I mean you got to you
gotta always keep mentally focused. That's what it's all about.
Mental focus. Because they're all great players that they wouldn't
be there, but we'll see. I mean, if I was
a betting guy, I put money on mcilroyd because when
you get to that point, you got to think in
your head, I'll never be here again. You know, you

(42:22):
got to take a shot. When you got your shot.

Speaker 2 (42:24):
How about a culture builder who slanders culture building?

Speaker 7 (42:32):
I mean I'll tell you why right now. I don't
want him at my giants. I can tell you that
you never don't.

Speaker 2 (42:37):
Worry about that Dan. They're not drafting him. There's no chance.

Speaker 7 (42:40):
I don't think he's going to go in the first round. Dude,
I really don't think he's gonna go.

Speaker 2 (42:45):
Now, with Derek Carr getting heard, you think, well, I
don't feel he's a first round talent. That doesn't mean
you know, people are gonna hear what they want to hear.
They can be pissed off at me, but I'm paid
to have opinions, and that's my opinion. I'm sorry, Jim,
you got the floor continue.

Speaker 7 (42:58):
Yeah, no, but that's that's your first round pick. Is
you're assuming as a franchise player that's year around for
ten years. And no, no, I mean his I don't
think his head's there there. I think if he does
get drafted in the first round because because of his
last name, not because of talent, and then you know,

(43:20):
now you're playing with men, you're not playing with boys,
so it's it. It's going to be a totally different world.
And I don't I think he's going to be a bust.
And as far as the culture building. Dion did everything
out there.

Speaker 2 (43:32):
That's what I thought. Yeah, yeah, he's a coacher.

Speaker 7 (43:36):
Look at look at how he got to his spring
spring game on TV. He went out and negotiated. Now
everybody's going to want.

Speaker 3 (43:42):
To do it.

Speaker 7 (43:44):
You know, I know apples don't fall fIF from the tree,
but uh, this wan rolled downhill?

Speaker 2 (43:49):
Okay, real quickly, WNBA. Did you know the draft was Monday?
When you watching this year?

Speaker 7 (43:55):
Number one about the W I don't I didn't know
the draft. I didn't care. All I want them to
do is clean up their referee and and get it
down with it and not picking our Caitlin Clark because
she is a talent. She's you know, she's like Tiger Wood,
like Burden Magic. She is the talent. If you want
to expand your league and get it great, you're gonna

(44:18):
start playing on even playing field. So when she gets
smacked in the head she has thirteen stitches, you got
to call a foul. You don't look at each other
like what's your problem? I mean, it's been very, very bad.
I hope they clean that all up in this off season.
But if it starts off like that this year, they're
gonna lose everything, viewership, everything in people are just gonna
walk away businesses and everything. You can't have that. You

(44:40):
can't have physical assaults and all that other crap going
on when you know it's against the rules. I mean
even an age to nine nine year old can see that,
you know.

Speaker 2 (44:48):
So wait to start us up to them in Massachusetts
coming off the top rope. That's how you started poppy
in San Diego. All right, you know the three topics, buddy,
take it?

Speaker 8 (44:59):
Hey, yeah, you know, go. I really don't know about stuff,
but you know, I went to my hometown to Coachella
Valley two weeks ago, and they had not a big
tennis tournament and I saw a lot of shuttles going
on there. And they they still have big tournaments right
there for the TGA Tour. So yeah, about Tiger, he's
a great person. When I was right there Coachella Valley,

(45:20):
that's my hometown, Like he actually went over there when
it was in his time time and had a clinic
of youth and showing them how to swing and.

Speaker 4 (45:27):
Stuff like that.

Speaker 8 (45:28):
So I love Tiger Woods. And will there be someone
else like him? I don't think so. And we'll see
what happened about with Sanders. What I got to say
about Sanders is I really love him. My prediction is
I think he'll fall with the Raiders, and I think
Tom Brady will probably.

Speaker 9 (45:45):
Pull the trigger.

Speaker 2 (45:46):
Oh no, I don't think so. For they just gave
basically Gino a three year deal man seventy five million guaranteed. Well, yeah,
I'm not asking. I'm not asking if you think where
he's going to be drafted, because there's all sorts of speculation.
What I'm asking is, do you think he's really the
culture builder that he says he is?

Speaker 8 (46:03):
Well, well, of course, like you know, I mean, you know,
you gotta fake it till you make it, and you know,
his dad is Time Time, and of course he's a
cultural bratiner and look at all the stuff that he
could do at a new generation with his athlete probably
and like his mind. Yeah, he's a he's a culture
builder and he does what he's gotta do. He might
even go to a Breese team, the Saints. But yeah,

(46:24):
I think he won't be a bus because there's been
a lot of bus on the NFL quarterback I'm not
gonna say names, but Mark Chansons and stuff like that.
I think he'll be in the first round because that
he'll get opportunities, something will happen, and he's gonna shine.
He's gonna shine. So that's my predition.

Speaker 2 (46:40):
Watch it this.

Speaker 8 (46:41):
Year well, of course, and I am gonna watch it
with the draft and playing in park and hopefully you
know your hometown and the dynasty the Las Vegas ass.
I'll be going there in the summer league team to
the NBA, and I want to see the Las Veggas
ages in your hometown, the champions, and they got.

Speaker 4 (46:58):
To be bidding.

Speaker 8 (46:59):
They have a dynasty. I'm looking well, they repeat it,
get another ring for a lot of thing. So I'm
excited about this, all.

Speaker 2 (47:06):
Right, Poppy, always appreciate your enthusiasm, and let's give you
some props. Your potters look really good early on. I
mean they're not a flute. It's going to be a
fun race this year. Stephen Kansas City Joints us Hi, Steve,
how are you welcome in.

Speaker 3 (47:22):
Hey by Bernie? Good evening boy.

Speaker 9 (47:25):
There's a lot of the lot of the plate tonight.
So I'll try and try and move along, you know,
I'll give the masters a chance. I think the ratings
are higher than ever, not up to Tiger type levels.
I like this guy Bryson, Dave Shamba. I think he's
he's an American, He's I mean, I'll be rooting for

(47:46):
Rory to win the Grand Slam, the career Grand Slams tomorrow.
Only six six people have ever done it, and they're
all time legends.

Speaker 7 (47:54):
But I wouldn't be I wouldn't be.

Speaker 9 (47:56):
Too disappointed with with Dave Schambeau winning either. He's like
a nice guy today, given high fives to everybody. Golf
needs a little injection of humanity like that, like a
like a guy who who's on the internet and gets
a billion views and sort of that. You know, he's
not too not too stuffy. Uh, you know, I'm not

(48:20):
a big I think he's just going to be average.
The rumor going around the Midwest and Colorado is that
Travith Hunter is one of the all time great So
keep your eyes, keep your eyes. He could be one
of the best ever.

Speaker 3 (48:32):
So keep your.

Speaker 9 (48:33):
Eyes on Travith Hunter.

Speaker 7 (48:34):
Not not to do her what uh.

Speaker 9 (48:39):
Caitlin Clark, I'm going to be following her for years.
I mean, that's it's the fish out of Water movie
story that you know, she's sort of like Larry but
like the female Larry Bird that you know, the trashman
from Princelick, Indiana who went to who went to Bobby
Knight for a month and say I'm out of here

(49:02):
the story and he went to Indiana State and and
Caitlin is sort of sort of like that. She's she's
gonna own every record. It'll be interesting to see how
the w n b A is going to deal with someone.
So far we've we've seen they're gonna brutalize her. They're
gonna they're gonna try to get her to back down.
That didn't work. So so she's gonna own every single

(49:25):
record in the business. And they're they're not gonna like that.
And that's gonna make for interesting storylines for years.

Speaker 2 (49:31):
You're gonna be watched, You're gonna be watching, You'll be
a you'll be a patron correct.

Speaker 9 (49:36):
Oh, I mean that's that's gonna be number one, unless
they unless they just have a have a terrible run,
unless she loses every game. And I also had a
wild card thought on Nico here at Tennessee. I mean,
you know, nothing says, nothing says SEC just means more
than your quarterback wanting to go to Miami for an

(49:58):
extra two million dollars the day before the spring game.

Speaker 2 (50:01):
Isn't that crazy? We reached an inflection point.

Speaker 9 (50:04):
We've got to have punishment for these guys. I know
he's not going to be able to go to the
SEC for but that's right. You can't desert your teammates
the day before the spring game. That was a pretty
transferve in my bird, that's.

Speaker 2 (50:18):
That's an excellent angle. Good stuff. We're gonna get to
that next Saturday night a little bit more. Andrea and
Massachusett to Tye you in, Buddy, welcome back into the
Bernie Fouder Show.

Speaker 4 (50:28):
Hey Bernie, how you doing?

Speaker 10 (50:29):
Thanks for taking the call we got. We got three
good topics and a lot of solid takes the far
So listen. In terms of the Masters, Okay, Rory McElroy,
it's your time to shine. This has been my overarching
theme on the Masters. We need the stars and golf
to be stars and have staying power and get multiple grants,
get multiple major championships. So whether it was, it looks

(50:51):
like Rory and Rory's a dude far I just I
just like the cut of his jip. You know how
he gets down, you know, so, and he's.

Speaker 4 (50:57):
Had some issues.

Speaker 10 (50:59):
He's had some issues on Sunday, been a little Greg Norman.

Speaker 2 (51:01):
That's creepy because he has he's got so much pressure
on him Tomorrow, Sat of Sunday. Go ahead.

Speaker 10 (51:07):
There's no doubt about the talent, Okay, So Rory I
the Tiger, right, Golf needs stars and you have all
the capabilities to step into that role. Is ah, we
gonna have another Tiger Woods? No, okay, because generational means generational.
But from Rory, the Scottie Scheffler, the Brooks kept Good,
Bryson de Shambo to John Rahm. Not just one major

(51:28):
here and there. We need people to stack up majors
so the people can identify with them, so that you
know you're tuning in to see one particular person.

Speaker 8 (51:36):
So I'm pulling for Rory.

Speaker 10 (51:37):
Now over to Shador Sanders.

Speaker 4 (51:38):
Is he a leader in a culture?

Speaker 10 (51:39):
Seter, No, he's not. Okay, Shador Sanders great talent, okay,
but he Shador Sanders is about Shador Sanders. And here's
the bottom line, Okay, Because we have a phenime coming
up in college football that did it the other way,
a one mister arch Manning. So I think a lot
of teams right now are looking all right. And here's
my my thing with Chador versus Arch, And you know
I should Shadoor can row arch manning number one high

(52:01):
school prospect coming out of coming out of high school
phenom on the same trajectory as his uncle Payton.

Speaker 7 (52:07):
What did he do?

Speaker 10 (52:08):
He's essentially sat out two years and and take and
taking a step back and said I'm going to trust
the process.

Speaker 11 (52:14):
So people really don't.

Speaker 10 (52:15):
Understand what Texas has. I have him lighting college football
on fire next year. I have him winning the Heisman Trophy,
and I have him being the number one overall pick.
To Shador Sanders, I think teams are already. I think
teams are leaning this quarterback class. Draft is good, but
they know they realize what Arch is going to be
next year. So specific to Shador.

Speaker 2 (52:33):
Let me, I thought that I've had some of those
same thoughts. I've had some of those same thoughts. Hey,
real quickly, I got to keep it moving. You're you're
a great caller, But I want to get real quick
thoughts on the WNBA.

Speaker 10 (52:43):
If you love basketball, you love the w NBA. Bottom line, Okay,
so I'm a huge fan of WNBA. The game is wrong.
Want's talk to me about the losses that the league suffers.
The NBA will will take those losses because it increases
your viewership and it gives those little girls a dream.
And we've had some other good calls.

Speaker 4 (52:59):
That had some takes.

Speaker 10 (53:00):
Nobody's brutalizing Caitlin Clark. Let me tell you that as
a referee, Okay, she does get foults here and there.
There is a little bit of animates because she's a
nuke on the block. But she's great for the league.
She's gonna be a star for many years. She's gonna
bring eyeballs in the league's and continue to be healthy
and strong. Basketball players love the w B W n
B A. I cannot wait. Thank burn.

Speaker 8 (53:17):
Think's taking a call, all right.

Speaker 2 (53:18):
Don't be a stranger as always, Andre, uh the squeeze
in one more Brock and Alberta, Canada. Brock. You're up next?

Speaker 3 (53:25):
He burning brother house it on.

Speaker 2 (53:26):
How you doing, buddy, hey man, go ahead, go ahead,
we got a limited time bringin. You know you're on
the you're on the air, buddy.

Speaker 12 (53:35):
Yeah yeah, yeah, what's uh so?

Speaker 2 (53:40):
Uh well, you can start with you can still start
with the Masters. You're gonna watch it Sunday.

Speaker 12 (53:45):
I sure am, Yeah, No, I'm rooting for uh. I
think uh uh Bryson de Shambo is gonna win it.
I think he's got that killer mentality like Michael Jordan.
You know, I got him winning it. But I I
I Roy mcclroy. He's too nice of a guy. I think,
as great as he is since twenty eleven, you know,
he's to me, he's.

Speaker 2 (54:04):
Like the Lebron James of golf. You know, well, we're
gonna find out tomorrow or later on today. Shidor Sanders,
is he a culture builder or not?

Speaker 13 (54:13):
Absolutely?

Speaker 12 (54:14):
I think he sure is.

Speaker 14 (54:15):
He deserves a number one pick.

Speaker 12 (54:16):
Whoever does not draft hing is going to regret it
for the rest.

Speaker 2 (54:18):
Of their lives. You may be right. I'm not gonna
fight that. We shall see. I have a different take,
but hey, you know I'm not the burning Bush. Finally,
the WNBA the draft is Monday. Will you watch this year?

Speaker 12 (54:32):
H yeah, I think definitely. I'll watch a bit. You know,
Okay is great, you know, Kaylin Flark's great to watch.
Another great player that you did not mention that I
think from my viewpoint will be Paige Beckers. I think
she's phenomenal.

Speaker 2 (54:41):
I think she's going to be drafted. I think she
could be drafted number one overall Monday Night.

Speaker 3 (54:46):
I think so.

Speaker 12 (54:47):
For the Dallas Wings, yes, I believe so. And hey,
you know what if they if the Wings could win,
you know, hey, better than my Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (54:54):
I don't know so, but hey, I always appreciate hearing
from you, brock And and we'll talk to you again soon. Okay, buddy,
we're just getting started on the midnight hour. Sam and

Hour continues where we are off and running. We're talking masters,
Rory McElroy trying to make history Sunday, no Tiger Woods.
Will you be watching Shudor Sanders? Is he a culture builder?

Speaker 3 (56:19):
Boy?

Speaker 2 (56:20):
The opinions are running hot and cold on him, some
interesting thoughts and of course the WNBA. The Draft is Monday.
They even featured the w NBA on an episode of
Law and Order. Will you watch You Care? Back to
the phones. That's We're joined by Sam and Canyon Country, California. Sam,

(56:40):
thanks to your patients. You're on the Bernie Frattle Show.

Speaker 3 (56:43):
Oh my goodness, thank goodness. I am one of the
biggest sports fans on the planet.

Speaker 2 (56:49):
What are the three subjects?

Speaker 3 (56:52):
I'm going to start with golf?

Speaker 15 (56:55):
Okay, I actually have a Bruce Devlin fancy face golf,
Denny hitting albatross.

Speaker 2 (57:04):
How do you feel about the Masters on Sunday?

Speaker 3 (57:08):
Oh, I'm fantastic.

Speaker 2 (57:09):
You can watch.

Speaker 3 (57:10):
It's a beautiful play.

Speaker 2 (57:11):
Absolutely okay. So regardless, I mean the twenty year run
Tiger had is not going to stop you from watching.
You You're all in on Sunday?

Speaker 3 (57:19):
Right?

Speaker 2 (57:20):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (57:21):
Absolutely? All right?

Speaker 2 (57:22):
How about shoot or Sanders? Just get your thoughts.

Speaker 3 (57:25):
Have you ever talked to Bruce Devon?

Speaker 2 (57:29):
Uh? Not that I can recall, but I'm trying to.

Speaker 3 (57:31):
Still that's all the golf part.

Speaker 15 (57:35):
But then last week you were talking about actually two
days ago unfortunately, I fortunately I ran into your station
and you're saying siblings. I've done siblings that I've grown
up with the Sato family from the volleyball they all
have gold medals.

Speaker 2 (57:55):
That's fantastic. What are your thoughts about Shodor Sanders? Sam?
I want to get to all the callers and try
to stay on the topics.

Speaker 3 (58:02):
But where's Kopka?

Speaker 2 (58:07):
Kepka didn't make the cut?

Speaker 3 (58:10):
All right?

Speaker 2 (58:10):
Appreciate you checking in, Sam, appreciate you listening to Fox
Sports Radio. Alan, Saint Louis joins us Allen, you've been
on the Bernie Fowl Show before. Your thoughts tonight?

Speaker 3 (58:20):
How you doing, Bernie?

Speaker 11 (58:21):
Well, another group of excellent topics. As far as the Masters,
I will be watching, you know, ive Roy McElroy. He
kept me the comeback. He started off very very slowly
that first day. But there's nothing like there's a big
difference between coming back on Thursday and we're in that.

(58:41):
We're getting that eighteen fifteen green on that.

Speaker 2 (58:44):
That's right. I hate to be that guy, Alan, but
he shot back to back sixty sixes and I don't
like his chances. Sunday he can prove me wrong. Let's
see what happens.

Speaker 11 (58:55):
Yeah, And I will be watching too as fort Tiger
Woods with her. And you know, I'm a I evolved,
you know, I watch what I live in, living in
the moment. You know, Tiger was great, he had great career.
But I kind of sell myself short if I try
to make comparisons to what Tiger would have done. And
let's face it, you go with the live with the

(59:17):
lift golfers playing now, it kind of takes away from
the Masters because when they first did the first year,
there's a little almosity between them. It's kind of cooled
off now. But yeah, you know, you know golf was
about rivalries too. You know Brooks Kepka and Deshambo when
they were in the PGA, they had a kind of

(59:37):
little rivalry going. But they're not there no more now,
so you know that's kind of paid away.

Speaker 2 (59:42):
Well again, Alan I mentioned this earlier. You may recall
ten months ago at the US Open to Shambo and
uh Rory faced off and Shambo beat him. He broke
his heart. And so anyway, real quickly, let's get to
Shodor Sanders. Your thoughts on his future in the NFL.
Is you have a culture builder, like you said he is.

Speaker 11 (01:00:04):
I think he's gonna have a decent career. But let's
face it, culture building is about being on winning teams.
And if Shadora Sanaders get gets drafted by the Giants
or the Cleveland or something, he can't build a culture
not the front off there, you know what?

Speaker 2 (01:00:20):
You know? You know what's interesting though, go back to
twenty fifteen. Cam Newton took over a one in fifteen
team in Carolina, got him to the Super Bowl, two
years later, so it can happen. But I don't think
you do it by talking. And I think that's our
beef with shehdor Sanders. He talks a lot.

Speaker 11 (01:00:35):
Faith Cam Newton was a lot better talent than Oh hell.

Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
Hell yes, he was real quick. The WNBA. You're gonna
watch it this year?

Speaker 11 (01:00:43):
Of course I'll be watching it. But the problem with
the question is I'll answering the question with a question,
and everybody else gonna watch. Because when Caitlin Clark played,
you had over a million viewers. When she wasn't playing,
it was two or three hundred thousand. So I just
hope that everybody joins in on the rest of the
w NBA instead of Caiton Clark, because that's the only

(01:01:04):
that's the only thing that's really gonna make this league.

Speaker 3 (01:01:06):
Drive.

Speaker 11 (01:01:07):
Take care, Bernie O, thanks.

Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
Thank you, Alan, appreciate it. Andy and Oregon welcome, and
Bernie Frattle show. You're up next.

Speaker 3 (01:01:15):
Oh Bernie.

Speaker 7 (01:01:17):
One second, I was on bluetooth.

Speaker 16 (01:01:20):
How are you doing to night, Bernie doing?

Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
Well?

Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
What do you got for us? Buddy?

Speaker 16 (01:01:24):
Well, I don't watch a golf for WNBA, so like
take will just be entred fast.

Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
That'd be fine.

Speaker 16 (01:01:30):
I think he's going to be humbled and have a
career like Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
Well, Baker Mayfields had a pretty damn good career, right
think think about it, Andy. I appreciate the comparison because
he talked a lot. He took over a team that
was one on thirty one, everybody forgets how bad Cleveland was,
and two years got into the playoffs.

Speaker 16 (01:01:51):
Go ahead, that's what's saying. I think that he's going
to get in there and just get humbled real quickly.
But I think that he's going to turn around. Yeah,
Biggers had a good career. I think that I shouldn't
have that too, Thanks Berdan.

Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
All right, short and sweet, Thanks Andy, appreciate your thoughts.
Andrew in Bakersfield. You've been a regular during this segment.
We've got three topics.

Speaker 17 (01:02:12):
Start wherever you're like, all right, I think what I
want to say applies to all three topics. Okay, But
on the second, I think Shador Sanders is going to
be good. I think he's going to be really good.
And what I have to say is kind of like
a short rant. Go ahead, Okay, anyone anyone who uses

(01:02:36):
the term jag, like, oh, he's a JAG receiver, and
they're saying he's just a guy.

Speaker 3 (01:02:43):
Yeah, just a guy.

Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 17 (01:02:44):
I would say, you know, don't use that phrase because
what if he is your cousin, your son, what if
it was you? Anyone has the potential to you know,
be good, and so I don't like that phrase. That
all right, basically all I got?

Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
Do you have nothing on the w NBA and or
the Masters on Sunday? Take a pass on to watch it?

Speaker 17 (01:03:10):
No, I want to watch it.

Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
What times it start on the Well, it'll start, it
starts a differentiure in Bakersfield. No, no, it'll it won't
start till closer till noon. But uh, I don't think
you'll see I don't think you'll see. Uh the tea
times have been reported, but I think you'll see. Uh
the finalists to Shambo and and and Rory. I think

(01:03:36):
t off about one o'clock along those lines Pacific Pacific time.
I'll be wide appreciate it. Andrew Hugh. Uh, Now, let's
see last week you started on the five freeway and
I think you ended up on the ten. Where are
you now?

Speaker 18 (01:03:50):
Well, I'm not on the fifteen headed towards you right now.

Speaker 13 (01:03:53):
But all right, because there's one thing that you know,
so really quickly.

Speaker 18 (01:03:57):
Before we get to the topics, if you don't mind
number one, I want to call you out on something.

Speaker 3 (01:04:01):
Last week. You had a hard time.

Speaker 18 (01:04:03):
Saying the word choke, and I heard you say something about.

Speaker 13 (01:04:07):
Rory choking with putts.

Speaker 2 (01:04:10):
He did, he did? They called me out. No, that
that's fair. That that's what. Hey, you're a good listener,
and you know what I gotta tell you. Hold that thought.
Hold that thought because he's gonna be a good time.
I the minute that came out of my mouth. Uh,
I said, why did I do that? Except there's something
about Rory whenever there are big steaks and big expectations,

(01:04:32):
it's not just once, it's every time. And golf rule
number six, you're responsible for your own ball and your
own score. And he missed two early easy putts short
putts two last year in the US Open. Uh, and
that set the stage for Bryson Deshambo to beat him.

(01:04:53):
And so hey, I have to own it. I said
that if I I, uh, you know, I should have
said a dork two putts not show. But I said
it too late. God, But good on you for calling
me out.

Speaker 13 (01:05:04):
Yeah, Well, he pulled a duke. Basically, Okay, that's good,
the fact of that, all right.

Speaker 18 (01:05:10):
The topics, coach, if you don't mind, set me up
and and I'll hit you with him, all right.

Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
And one last thing. The reason I couldn't say that
duke choked is because you got to use a little
bit of credit. There's no defensive golf. There's no defense
in golf. It's you, the club, the ball, and the course.
But duly noted, I contradicted myself. Okay, I contradicted myself.

Speaker 7 (01:05:32):
All right.

Speaker 2 (01:05:33):
So these are the topics. Let's start with this. You've
got the Masters on Sunday. Rory's trying to make history,
and the question is will you be watching and you know,
look this twenty year run that professional golf had with Tiger.
You know, will we ever see anything like that again?
So let's start there.

Speaker 18 (01:05:54):
That all depends on if shoe and apparel companies will
get behind somebody that they believe.

Speaker 3 (01:06:01):
In and drive the mania and.

Speaker 18 (01:06:03):
Drive that, you know, and so who knows who's going
to come along that something to get behind to do that,
you know, it's it's and here's another thing.

Speaker 13 (01:06:14):
So I was reading a story last night about how this.

Speaker 18 (01:06:17):
Girl in Austin, Texas got together this group of girls
to play golf, which led into the basis of the
real nexus of the story was But but there's a
bunch of gen zs out there now on the golf
course driving away the people who followed Tiger Woods who
might follow the thing tomorrow and don't like the fact

(01:06:40):
that they've got to play five and a half hour route.

Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
Oh yeah, well, I do know this about golf. The
sport is popular, but professional golf is not nearly as popular.
Let's move along to Shidor Sanders. I'm sure you've got
a thought on shod Door Sanders.

Speaker 18 (01:06:58):
Yeah, because you know you have this topic about him
and Dion back when Hey, are they going to go
to the Cowboys together?

Speaker 2 (01:07:05):
If you recall someone, Well, I never gave it, of
course I recall, but I never gave it. I would
have loved to have seen. It'd be good for my business,
but I never really thought it was gonna I never
really thought it would materialize.

Speaker 18 (01:07:15):
So my point, my point on that is that what
I said at the time is what I think the
real story is, which is fascinating to me personally, is
how are they going to do apart from one another, right,
And I think that's still the story. And as far
as you know that, that's really going to be fascinating
to me.

Speaker 13 (01:07:35):
As far as the culture.

Speaker 18 (01:07:36):
Building, well I would say, you know, Shador, he balled
out with his dad growing up, going to college, going
to different colleges, and.

Speaker 3 (01:07:49):
They were successful.

Speaker 19 (01:07:51):
And he's of the generation that probably fueled the whole like, hey, dude, dad,
we got to get on social media and blow this
thing up. And so if you really want to look
at it, he probably to be seen as having experienced
building culture.

Speaker 3 (01:08:08):
Right.

Speaker 13 (01:08:08):
So then they had a brother.

Speaker 2 (01:08:10):
But the and the question is how do you do that?
He talks a lot, and he wears a role ax
and drives a Rolls Royce around campus. I don't know, man,
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (01:08:19):
Well he took he took.

Speaker 13 (01:08:20):
A lot of hits in college, yeah he did.

Speaker 2 (01:08:23):
God not questioning is toughness.

Speaker 13 (01:08:26):
Yeah that's so. So where what you want let's say,
you know.

Speaker 9 (01:08:31):
Blaying it, bling it out.

Speaker 3 (01:08:32):
I guess.

Speaker 13 (01:08:33):
But I actually do like his attitude. I like he's
kind of like sort of on an island coming into
the NFL. Dad's no longer behind.

Speaker 18 (01:08:41):
Him necessarily, and Dad even backed away with you know,
you know what, I'm just going to let him do
his thing.

Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
I'm not going to get involved. You know.

Speaker 13 (01:08:49):
That came up recently, and so he's kind of on
an island trying to make it happen on his own.
And he's not backing down. He's like saying, hey, I
can do it, and because that's what he believes.

Speaker 3 (01:08:59):
And so that's the fact.

Speaker 13 (01:09:00):
Fascinating story. We'll see what happened.

Speaker 2 (01:09:02):
He's gonna have to adapt. This is a whole different
He's gonna real quickly, uh, real quickly. You Uh The
w NBA Draft is Monday. Were you aware of that?
And will you be watching the WNVA this year?

Speaker 18 (01:09:15):
I'll be truthful, I wasn't aware of that, but I
did hear that on another show or somewhere.

Speaker 13 (01:09:21):
I read it like in the last day or two,
So I did know about it. But well, okay, what
was what?

Speaker 3 (01:09:27):
What was real?

Speaker 13 (01:09:28):
The real question behind this?

Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
Well, the real question is is it just simply is
how I stated it. We're going into the year two
with Caitlin Clark and the league lost fifty million bucks
last year. They beat their chest. They're going to be
on TV right left, they were featured on a long
order episode Thursday. So it's like, wait a minute, if
they're gonna do that, is that?

Speaker 3 (01:09:53):
You know?

Speaker 2 (01:09:53):
It got made me scratch my head and say, is
just speak to a level of a way awareness now
that the w NBA has or are they force feeding it?

Speaker 3 (01:10:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (01:10:04):
Fascinating, Yes, that is a fascinating question because why is
it takes a show that has nothing to do with
the league.

Speaker 6 (01:10:12):
To get behind it?

Speaker 3 (01:10:13):
Right?

Speaker 13 (01:10:14):
So kind of rolls back.

Speaker 3 (01:10:15):
To who's going to get behind it?

Speaker 13 (01:10:17):
It's kind to be your company or an apparel company
to drive that. But I'll say that really quick, and
who can't get behind someone like her who did a
lot of great stuff in that and you know last
year or however long it's been like it's you know,
of course you want to watch that. So it really
speaks to why isn't anybody making her the face of

(01:10:41):
the league or you know, just marketing the heck out
of her?

Speaker 2 (01:10:46):
Right? Well they are, they're doing both of those things,
Hugh in reality, and there was tremendous about a uh pushback,
you appreciate you man, good thoughtful call, and uh that's
what you call a what I would would I would
characterize as an exceptional listener. I couldn't get the word
choke out of my mouth last week with Duke, but

(01:11:06):
I invoked it with Rory after the two miss putts.
I contradicted myself. Squeeze one morning, here Christopher in North Carolina.
Welcome into the Bernie Frattle Show.

Speaker 14 (01:11:16):
Bernie topics that don't relate to anything you have on
your plate.

Speaker 2 (01:11:21):
Okay, go, here we go.

Speaker 14 (01:11:23):
NHL ud Wings nine straight years out in the playoffs,
WM you the first time ever?

Speaker 2 (01:11:30):
Remen? Yeah? How about that? They one?

Speaker 14 (01:11:32):
Yes, I am an alma mater. I am overjoyed. That's
my take. Thanks for taking my call.

Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
All right, he's got to be a Michigan or transplanted
in North Carolina, because about this time of the year,
were you know, supposed to be spring on the calendar.
You know, there's still snow on the ground in some
parts of Michigan. So the Frozen four is a big
damn deal in Michigan. Coming up, we got more work
to do on the Man. At hour eight seven seven

trying to make history on Sunday, Will he do it? Uh?
And look, you know there'll never be another Tiger, but
that you know may or may not stop you from
watching schudor Sanders. The biggest question facing America these days

(01:12:23):
is we're having a constitutional crisis. Where will Shudor Sanders
be drafted? And how will you do in the NFL
because the opinions vary widely? And then of course, the
w n b A featured on a Law and Order
episode Thursday night. And if that's the case, and how
many of you even knew that the w NBA draft

(01:12:46):
was Monday? And will you watch the w n b
A this year? By the way, calm the chaos with

Most people don't even know that Nathan and Texas joins us. Nathan,
Welcome back into the Bernie Frattle Show.

Speaker 20 (01:14:40):
How are you hey, I'm good.

Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
How are you doing well, sir?

Speaker 3 (01:14:45):
Right?

Speaker 20 (01:14:45):
So, all right, first thing I want to talk about
is Shader Sanders and whatever the dude compared him to Baker.
I actually had the same idea, and but I also
had the same idea as you. Baker has had a
great career, he really has, but he's also been one
of those like off the side the quarterbacks, you know

(01:15:07):
what I'm saying. Yeah, And it's so no disrespected Baker
and by no means no disrespected dure like, but I
definitely I kind of agree with what that guy was saying.
I was already thinking about it whenever I decided.

Speaker 17 (01:15:22):
To call uh.

Speaker 20 (01:15:24):
So that's kind of how I felt about that.

Speaker 2 (01:15:26):
If he does as well as Baker, I will consider
be having a good career.

Speaker 20 (01:15:29):
Go ahead, absolutely, And I feel like su will probably
have a great UH career for sure, but it will
be one of those kind of like a little but
maybe on the side quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (01:15:40):
You know what I'm saying, gotcha? Baker's on his fourteen
thoughts on the Masters in w NBA.

Speaker 21 (01:15:45):
All right, So Masters I definitely want the you know,
the career grand Slam.

Speaker 7 (01:15:50):
To have and we'll see what happens.

Speaker 21 (01:15:53):
The big shake up today was fantastic. I watched the
whole day I was working and we had it on
the TV.

Speaker 2 (01:15:59):
Sough.

Speaker 6 (01:16:00):
Uh it was that was interesting.

Speaker 7 (01:16:02):
W n b A uh the way I see.

Speaker 21 (01:16:05):
It, all right, So beforehand, it wasn't a whole lot of,
like I guess quote unquote reasons to uh watch it.
You know, obviously there's a bunch of reasons to watch it,
but Caitlin Clark is bringing everything uh to the forefront,
which I love. But I mean it's an uphill grind, right,

(01:16:28):
It's it's all right, it's.

Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
So there is you'll be you'll be watching, right, that
sounds I will.

Speaker 21 (01:16:34):
I will be watching one of the things I do
want to watch, as well as the TikTok start that.

Speaker 20 (01:16:41):
It's like, hey, the bang bang all right.

Speaker 2 (01:16:45):
Appreciate you, Nathan. I always appreciate your enthusiasm, and I
want to make sure we get enough time for Mike
in Vegas, who wraps it up tonight on the midnight hour.
What do you got for us, Mike.

Speaker 4 (01:16:55):
Hey, Bernie. Okay, So regarding the golf. I think that.
I think the Live made its impact, and uh, it
was just a big mistake by the PGA for not
realizing that that they are real, They're they're here. They

(01:17:18):
made a great to offer to a lot of golfers
and the smart ones took them up on that. And
the NBA was that close to losing their franchise in
two thousand and one when there was the lockout.

Speaker 2 (01:17:33):
I know that, but oh well that the WNB that's
when David Stern was still commissioned. He says, if the
w n b A goes on strike, all shut the
league down. All they do is lose money. Look, I
don't give a damn. You know there are there are
objective trus in our personal feelings. I'm not saying the
product on the floor is not good, it's pretty good.
But they lose money. Listen real quickly you watching WNB A,

(01:17:57):
I want to hear mainly about shoot or centers. You
just got to a minute.

Speaker 4 (01:18:01):
Almost never watch w n B A, but I have
watched it being from LA since since the very beginning
with Lisa Leslie. But it's not compelling. It's caddy and
and I don't want someone to tell me that I
have to watch it because of wokism. Okay, that's what

(01:18:23):
it's about. Don't tell me I have to watch basketball
or else I'm doing something that's not politically correct. And
that's where it's at today, especially when the law and
order tells me that I have to watch it. Shador standers, uh, I.
I'd like to see everybody succeed unless they're just a
total donkey. I don't consider him or his dad a

(01:18:47):
total donkey like I did when the when uh when
Lonzo Ball came out. Not Lonzo, but daddy.

Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
Was a all right listen. I appreciate you, Mike. I
wish we had a little bit more time, but I
got to manage the clock. I appreciate your thoughts, appreciate
your candor. A lot of good, varying opinions around the board.
I would say this though the Masters, and I went
to one Masters in nineteen ninety nine. It's a mecca

(01:19:15):
for golf. This will be the most pressure packed round
Rory McElroy will ever play in his life. Ever, it
can ever be this pressure packed again. He led it
in twenty eleven. It seems like a lifetime agoing it was,
but this is a referendum mon Roy McElroy and it's
either going to be feast or famine, and I think

(01:19:35):
it's going to be very compelling. TV. Coming up is
the first quarterback picked in the draft, usually the best.
We'll give you the stats. Keep it locked. Listen to

(01:20:36):
you get your podcasts. You'll see Today Show, Tonight show
posted right after we get off the air. Well with
the Masters and the NBA Playoffs starting this week. Trust me,
the NFL always manages to stay front and center in
the headlines. A week from Thursday, the Draft will be

(01:20:57):
here in full force, and after that, you know, be
the the OTAs and mini camps and before you know,
it'll be June and July. And yeah, you know where
I'm going with that. But there are some off season
questions that are plaguing in the NFL right now, not
the least of which is what the hell is up
with Aaron Rodgers? Okay, and you would think that he

(01:21:24):
would know by now if he wants to join the
Pittsburgh Steelers. Who have you had the patience of job
during this thing? And it's been reported that some unnamed
NFL exec told Mike Sando that the Vikings interest in Rogers, well,
there was interest, but give it up to, you know,

(01:21:44):
Kevin O'Connell for his diplomacy. There is perhaps still some
uncertainty regarding JJ McCarthy's readiness to lead. Well. Another said
he can't think of a worse combination than Rogers joining
George Pickens, DK Metcalf and are through Smith and Pittsburgh.
I don't know that I agree with that. They weren't

(01:22:06):
excited about Justin fieldstolee on the ball and nor Russell Wilson. Okay,
we know that, you know, we know that Rogers' first
choice was the Vikings. All right, people in hell want
ice water. You're both out of luck. Aeron, you're not
going to the Vikings barring some weird thing. I would

(01:22:26):
say Art Rooney the second who the Rooney family is
very dignified. They said, quote, all signs are positive for
Aaron Rodgers, who's now forty one, to end up with
the Steelers. He said it was good to meet him,
adding he didn't envision the process taking this long. Remember
it's been almost three weeks since Aaron Rodgers visited the Steelers.
I don't think Aaron Rodgers wants to go out the

(01:22:47):
way he went out, or does he land if it
ain't Pittsburgh, I don't know where. I mean, he's not
going to retire, I doubt that. And the second thing
is the only way I could see him landing in
Minnesota is if he be on the calm and God
forbid something happens with JJ McCarthy or the Vikings are
without a quarterback. They're ready to compete for a super

(01:23:07):
Bowl now, so they might be forced. But then again
that's heavy speculation. So that raises the second question. If
Aaron Rodgers is not the Steelers quarterback, who the hell is? Okay,
right now, you've got a quarterback room of Mason Rudolph.
He's a competitor, but I don't think you're going to

(01:23:28):
a super Bowl With Mason Rudolph and former Miami backup
Skyler Thompson. That's your quarterback room in Pittsburgh right now.
Not exactly Terry Bradshaw and Ben Roethlisberger. Now Rogers feels
likely again to go to Pittsburgh. Matt Stafford turned him down.
They've had no interest in bringing back Justin Fields or

(01:23:50):
Russell Wilson. They've left town. And that's where the draft
comes in. So all of a sudden, now, given the
uncertainty or even the certainty or the Steelers, they have
one first round pick and no second round pick, there's
heavy speculation that they could use their first round pick
on Shudor Sanders if he's there at twenty one. Now

(01:24:12):
before Derek Carr had his you know you heard the
injury report on Derek Carr. Doesn't look like he's gonna
play for the Saints this year. Do I consider that
a huge loss? Not really, but he is a veteran quarterback,
and so that leaves the Saints feeling probably a little helpless.
And I just don't think Spencer Rattlers air futured. I've

(01:24:32):
heard no one say that. And so could Shudoor go
number nine to the Saints? Could Jackson Dark go number nine?
I have no idea. I don't, Okay, prior to Derek
Carr getting hurt, I don't think the Saints we're gonna
draft him. I think that was speculation. I think he
would have dropped to twenty one. I mean, if you're

(01:24:53):
gonna tell me, the Cleveland Browns just signed Joe Flacco
and they're gonna get I think they're gonna take Travis Center,
which there's a guy who steps down on the field
day one, probably see snaps on both sides of the
ball and contributes day one period. And you can't say
that about your door Sanders. Meanwhile, the New York Giants,
they courted Matthew Stafford. He said no, they courted Aaron Rodgers.

(01:25:17):
He said no, So you get Jamis Winston and give
him four million bucks and you give Russell Wilson twenty
million in guaranteed ten. Does that look like a team
who's ready to draft a quarterback those two teams, I
don't think so. I'm certain that Raiders are gonna draft
Asks and genty without gonna draft your door Sanders. They
just hooked up Gino Smith for seventy five millions, so
that drops Sanders to nine. We'll see what happens. We'll

(01:25:40):
just go from there. And I wish the young man well,
I just I'm not in as cornyet. He's gotta prove
it to me. Okay, I had not rooting against him.
I don't care. I'm not rooting for him. I just
i'd like to see. The best story would be if
Shador Sanders goes crazy and turns out to be you know,
a Josh Allen or somebody. I no one saw that coming,

(01:26:01):
but that would be the story. That would be the
best story. But if Sanders doesn't fall to Pittsburgh back
to my question, and Rogers is not the Steelers quarterback,
then what do you do? Do you draft the Jackson
Darthur do you draft the Tyler show our Jalen Milroll
out of Alabama. This quarterback talent class is not great.

(01:26:22):
You got a lot of Day two quarterback talent and
once you know, it's just a Steelers luck. They're without
a second round pick this year due to the DK
Metcalf trade, so if they miss during the draft, this
popped into my mind, and boy, I don't know, this
is a reach, but it wouldn't be the worst thing
in the world. They could trade for Kirk Cousins. They

(01:26:43):
could wrest kirk Cousins from the Falcons. Let's unpack this, okay,
because as you look ahead to the twenty twenty five season,
and you know, look, the future always has a way
of arriving ahead of schedule. They're kicking off in about
four and a half months. A little bore than that,
less than five months month. His Kirk Cousin has started
next year. If so, where all right? I don't know

(01:27:08):
if kirk Cousins is willing to waive his no trade clause,
certainly I doubt he would do it until after the
draft on April twenty six. He's know what he's you
know what he's in what he's in for. But that
that really makes the early draft telling for both the
Steelers and Browns the number two and number thirty three picks.
If either passes on an early quarterback and does not

(01:27:30):
add Aaron Rodgers, I mean, we know the Browns aren't
the Steelers good expect a trade offer. I think Atlanta
will clearly listen to a trade offer on Kirk Cousins.
And I just don't think, with all the respect, Pittsburgh
wants to go into the season with Mason Rudolph in
Skyler Thompson. With all due respect, believe it or not,

(01:27:52):
this might be the first time in history all thirty
two teams will have used the first round pick. All right,
this Dealers are on track to receive four additional compensatory
picks in twenty twenty six, and they need a quarterback
or running back in a defensive tackle, so they could
pull the maneuver similar to what the Vikings did last year.

(01:28:13):
They mortgage delle their future picks to draft twice in
Round one. So teams with early second round picks are
often tempted to trade into the first round. Thanks to
the fifty year team option available to the players who
are drafted on Day one. That's exactly why the Panthers
traded up one spot last year to draft wide receiver

(01:28:34):
Xavier Lagett at number thirty two. By the way, Baltimore
did sever a very clever maneuver along those same lines
years ago when they drafted a guy you may have
heard of who turned out to be great, Lamar Jackson.
By the way, my opinion of Lamar Jackson coming out
of Louisville with spectac I thought he was outstanding. Didn't

(01:28:55):
get enough credit for his ability to operate in the pocket,
his vision, his accuracy, and you know he hasn't wont
anything yet. But Lamar Jackson is the man, okay, and
who's still got a lot of football ahead him. But
I remember in Louisville. At Louisville, I digressed for a
second here, there were games that he you know, teed
it up against SEC teams and he had some of

(01:29:15):
his best games while at Louisville. So anyway, as it
stands right now, this draft could be the first time
in NFL history all thirty two teams make a first
round pick. Am I predicting that's gonna happen? No, I'm not,
especially after you saw five first round picks move in
draft day trades among the ten total just last year alone. Okay,

(01:29:36):
the other question you have, how much do Michael Parsons, TJ. Watt,
and Brock Purdy get via their extensions. They're gonna get
a lot. I know I'm hearing. I mean, the forty
nine's are clearing cap space right left to pay Rock Purdy, TJ. Watt.
He's got to stay healthy, but he is when he's

(01:29:57):
on his game. And then Michael Parsons, come on, let's
he might be the best athlete on the Cowboys. Seems
like a good dude too. I don't know what's going
on there. You'd never know what's going on with the Cowboys.
But that's just just the Cowboys. So, now that we
have laid out the five pressing questions that have yet
to be answered in the twenty twenty five NFL season

(01:30:21):
that need to be answered here sooner rather than later.
If you go back twenty five years, if you look
at who the first quarterback is drafted, how often does
the first quarterback drafted become the best quarterback in that class.
We're going to take a look down memory lane and

(01:30:42):
go back the last twenty five years, it might very
well surprise you. By the way, for the best pregame

Speaker 2 (01:31:29):
All right, back at the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Come your liar from me Tyrek dot com studios here
in Las Vegas, about forty minutes away from fresh editions
of what kind of brand new fool you followed by
what my name? All right, So there's basically five quarterbacks

(01:31:49):
that are talked about most in this draft, which will
be a week from Thursday, the NFL Draft. Obviously cam Ward,
the widely debated Shador Sanders, Shall, Jackson Dart, and Jalen Milroe.
What do we know if we go back twenty five years,
how often does the first quarterback drafted become the best

(01:32:12):
quarterback in that class? See this year it appears that
cam Word is the undisputed top quarterback and likely the
number one pick. Then there's a gap. Okay. What's interesting
is depending on your personal feelings, your objective truth, or
what you're rooting for, or maybe you just have a
better crystal ball than the rest of us. There are

(01:32:34):
widely debated opinions on Shudor Sanders, who they say, Scott's
say has the accuracy to maybe be a top ten quarterback,
but he's falling down these mock draft boards due to
what Scott says actually limited arms, drength in poor pocket presence. Okay,
these your paper to get paid to do this, And
by the way, it's an inexact art. It's in an

(01:32:54):
exact science. So don't lose your lunch over this. Because
Sudor Sanders might lead a team to this Super Bowl
next year. Not predicting that. But you know, predicting the
future is not an easy thing to do, so I
don't know. I don't see him as a top ten pick.
I've said it a thousand times. He does not have
that one elite superhuman skill, that one superpower. I don't

(01:33:16):
think he's ready to truly help fix a bad team.
That's what your top ten guy's got to be. That's
why I think he could fall to twenty one at
the Steelers. We shall see, all right. I don't think
Tyler Show is in the first round. I don't think
Jackson Dark was being the first round, although there's wild
speculation that the Saints might draft Jackson Dart. I don't know.

(01:33:36):
I'm not predicting it, relaxed. I'm not sure if Jalen
Melroe is a second round guy, but I think he'll
be drafted somewhere. But here's the deal. The bad news
for cam Ord. This is all speculative, but we're drawing
on history. If you fast forward a decade, it's more
likely that someone other than him, the first quarterback drafted,
is going to become the best passer in the class,

(01:33:58):
because if you go back the last twenty five years,
the first quarterback draft that has become the best pro
only forty percent of the time. So remember, back in
two thousand, Chad Pennington was picked number eighteen overall. He
was picked one hundred and eighty one picks the head
of a guy by the name of, wait for it,

(01:34:18):
Tom Brady. So it was Chad Pennington the best and
he was pretty good with the Jets. I thought only
ten times in twenty five years as the first quarterback
draft to become the best quarterback in the class. Okay,
now it's hard to identify future franchise quarterbacks. That's the

(01:34:39):
word I want to use, because you know, let's just
go back two three years ago. Kenny Pickett was the
first quarterback drafted. Is he serviceable? Sure? Rock Purty's already
going to a Super Bowl. So Kenny Pickett was not
the best quarterback even though he was the first quarterback
drafted in twenty twenty two. The year after that, Bryce Young,

(01:35:02):
who I think a lot. I'm not giving up on
that guy. He was the first quarterback in that draft.
But you can't tell me he's been better than c J. Stroud,
not even close. And then just last year, just a
year ago, Caleb Williams was the first quarterback drafted. But
I don't think I'd get much argument if we were
to suggest that Jaden Daniels was the best quarterback of

(01:35:26):
last year's draft. Now, there was a three year run there, Okay.
In twenty nineteen, Carler Murray was the first quarterback drafted
in that class, No argument he's the best one. Joe
Burrow the following year, and then Trevor Lawrence. Some might
debate Trevor Lawrence, but let's face it, these guys have
been starter since they set foot in the league, and
they've had their shriff moments. Burrow has been to a

(01:35:47):
super Bowl and could have easily won it. Now let's
go back to twenty eighteen. A name that came up
earlier in the midnight hour, Baker Mayfield drafted number one overall,
but was either the best quarterback in that draft. There's
no way you can say that Lamar Jackson was also
in that draft. Josh Allen was also in that draft.

(01:36:07):
He was not the first quarterback. He was not the
best quarterback drafted, even though he was the first one.
The year before that, twenty seventeen Mitch Trubisky. Now Trubisky
had three decent years in Chicago, gets no Love, went
to the playoffs two out of the three years completed,
sixty seven percent of his passes would have won a
playoff game and a half for the double doink. And

(01:36:29):
they ran him ount of Ton on a rail because
Justin Fields was supposed to be the savior. How'd that
work out? But regardless, Trubisky was not the best quarterback
in that draft in twenty seventeen, even though he was
the first quarterback drafted. That would be a guy by
the name of Patrick Mahomes. Now in twenty sixteen, I
think this is debatable. Jared Goff was the first quarterback drafted.

(01:36:52):
The consensus based on statistics might suggest for some people
that I think are delusional that Dak Prescott was the
best quarterback in that draft. I'll take golf over Prescott
any day. Then twice on Sunday on twenty fifteen, Jameis
Winston was considered, well, he was the first quarterback drafted

(01:37:14):
in that draft and not a great quarterback draft, and
he probably was the best quarterback in that draft. Ten
years later, he still got a job in the NFL.
Now twenty fourteen, a little more debatable. Blake Portles was
drafteds Well. He was the first quarterback drafted in the
draft with Derek Carr. Probably most consensus would agree he's better.

(01:37:35):
Twenty thirteen, eg Manual, you forgot about him already. He
was the first quarterback in that draft, but Gino Smith
still around. He was drafted afterward. He's probably the best
quarterback in that draft because he just got a seventy
five million dollary. He's been a serviceable guy and the
Raiders are counting on him big time. So if you
look at those years as an example, okay, that's just

(01:37:57):
a quick ten year run. Few hits and misses. Okay.
The most painful for the respective franchises were clearly Mitch Trubisky.
He was drafted number two over Patrick Mahomes, who was
drafted till the tenth. He was pick tenth overall in

(01:38:18):
twenty seventeen. In twenty eighteen, Baker Mayfield was drafted number
one and up Listen, Baker Mayfield's had a good career,
but let's we forget they kind of ran him out
of Cleveland, even though I think he deserves more credit
than what he got. And then he ended up with
Carolina ended up with the Rams for a cup of coffee,

(01:38:38):
and now he seems to have found a home in
Tampa Bay. So if you're on your fourth team in
seven years, you're gonna turn heads. But I think there's
a context here, and I think Baker Mayfield's really done
a great job in Tampa Bay. But as the number
one overall pick in twenty eighteen, nobody's gonna argue that
he's better than Josh Allen, who was drafted seven overall,

(01:38:59):
and then Lamar Jackson was thirty second. He was the
fifth quarterback drafted. Both of them definitely better. By the way,
let's go all the way back to twenty oh five.
I've always liked Alex Smith class act. Had a lot
of very serviceable years in the NFL. Did a great
job in San Francisco before he gave way to Colin

(01:39:21):
Kaepernick for the one year. Did a great job in
Kansas City before he gave way to Patrick Mahomes. But
you can't really say Alex Smith, even though he's number
one out of Utah in two thousand and five, was
the best quarterback in that draft. That would have to
be Aaron Rodgers, who fell all the way to twenty
four so look, it's only been in the last twelve

(01:39:44):
years that it's been the hit rate has been worse.
The first ten years, there were several years where the
first quarterback draft, and I'm not going to do the
roll call Boia was spot on. And then the thirteen
years prior to Buffalo's EJ. Manuel that was a head scratcher.
It dropped to about every other year half the time.

(01:40:07):
And look, drafting a quarterback is an inexact art, It's
an inexact science. I mean, look, Chad penningteam was drafted
ahead of Tom Brady. Now, I like Michael Vick a
lot that he was drafted ahead of Drew Brees. Breeze
is going to the Hall of Fame. You know, I've

(01:40:27):
already told you about Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers, Vince Young,
Jay Cutler, JaMarcus Edward, JaMarcus Russell. Okay, now, there was
a five year stretch Andrew luck was drafted first. He
was the best quarterback in that draft. Same with Cam
Newton in twenty eleven, Sam Bradford in twenty ten, Matt
Stafford No. Nine, draft number one overall, wile the lines,
and then Matt Ryan in eight. Okay, so what does

(01:40:51):
all this mean. What it means is in spite of
the fact that there's been a lot of conjecture about
Schador saying, don't be so quick to dismiss Shudoor Sanders,
who in the right system could bre a brock Purty type.
And that's a compliment. Okay, I'm not writing this dude off.

(01:41:12):
Not in a million years. I would just say that,
you know, I'm uncertain about him. You know, I'm not
like dollar bill and billions or he is not uncertain.
I am uncertain about Shadoor Sanders. But that's why, you know,
that's what makes a horse race. So I'm really looking
forward to this draft and looking forward to see how

(01:41:34):
some of these guys. Some of these guys fare, by
the way, a subject I want to get to before
I forget, because next week at this time, the NCAA
Football Spring Portal will open. It opens Wednesday, the sixteenth,

(01:41:54):
I believe in it's nine days now. If the basketball
portal is any indicator, the football portal should just be pandemonium,
more pandemonium, because right now the NCAA is in transfer
portal chaos. According to my research, right now there are
about twenty one hundred men's NCAA Division One basketball players

(01:42:19):
who've entered the transfer portal as of April tenth, according
to verbal commits. This is what's crazy. There were fifty
six hundred players at the beginning of the twenty twenty
four twenty twenty five season on Division one rosters. This

(01:42:40):
is one in three who've entered the portal, including players
who will graduate this year. It's actually thirty five percent
now all the players are on scholarships, meaning, you know,
some of the players in a transfer portal will make
up a greater share of minutes and benefits. And while
the number of you know, people who aspire to transfer
as yet, I think it's just barely passed last years total.

(01:43:03):
Twenty and eighty eight players can still enter the portal.
It's going to remain open until April twenty second. That's
a thirty day portal at college basketball. It's a ninety
eight portal in college football. Okay, And again, not all
the players will transfer schools. Players are allowed to return
to their original school as long as the school is

(01:43:24):
open to them returning. For instance, San Diego State seven
foot freshman center Magoo Guath, he entered the portal on
the first state open on March twenty first, but eight
days later he returned to San Diego State. He's still
included in the count of verbal commits. Next Saturday night
during the midnight, we're going to get into this Nico

(01:43:45):
thing because here's why the portal opens. You know, UCLA
may snap him up. You know, I've read these reports
where they have valuations on players, and someone had his
valuation of like three point one million dollars. He's being
paid two point four I have no idea he in
hell how they figured that out. But what if he
has the last laugh or not? As I said at
the top of the show, you got a guy begging

(01:44:07):
off his team the day before the spring game because
two point four million wasn't enough for him. We are
at an inflection point on what this whole thing was
supposed to be. And by the way, it's not just men.
It's not just the men's basketball on the men's side
that are entering the portal. Last Wednesday, it was reported

(01:44:28):
in a publication called on three that more than thirteen
hundred women's D one players he entered the transfer portal,
which is about twenty five percent of women who were
on their rosters at the beginning of last season. All Right.
Among the transfers are to Nia Latson, she led the
NCAA and scoring last year, committed to South Carolina and
Olivia Miles, the projected number two pick in the twenty

(01:44:50):
twenty five WNBA draft, who chose to return to college
and then transfer from Notre Dame to TCU. Now Yukon
coach Gino Oriema, who just left the Huskies to his
twelfth national championship, he has real qualms about the transfer portal.
He says, what makes it Hardcolt is that the NBA,
they have free agency period of time, our free agencies
the whole year. The portal is open during the NCAA tournament.

(01:45:13):
Can you imagine the NBA playoffs and free agency going
on during the playoffs. I mean, it's insanity. Now you're
just thinking of that now. So this is the new
inflection point we are at. And I was talking football
earlier in the show. This is basketball. This is going
to continue. This is a story that's got legs. It
ain't going away. Imagine being paid, Imagine being paid two

(01:45:37):
point four million dollars. According to Paul Finebaum, you're the
sixth best quarterback in the SEC and two point four
million is not enough for you. By the way, I
have one last thing on college basketball. I want to
get this out because I must. If I heard one
talk show, I heard fifty talk shows saying as the

(01:46:00):
final four was assembled prior to you know, the tournament
culminating with Houston losing in the last minute to Florida
last Monday night, that, oh no, people don't hate Duke anymore.
Oh they're likable. Now, did Cooper Flag make them likable?
Are they likable? First of all, I never hated Duke.
I don't hate excellence. You know, they started winning championships

(01:46:23):
and you know what, ninety one was their first and
they won a bunch of them. And there's this sery
now that you know, because there's no Christian Latner, you know,
Grand Hill or tie Its. We don't hate Duke anymore,
They're okay. Well, hell, I know why you don't Hateduke anywhere?
They don't win anymore. Did you know over the last
ten years, Well you already you probably already did know this.

(01:46:46):
Duke hasn't won a national championship in over ten years now,
despite having thirty five five star players twenty eight McDonald's
All Americans, eighteen first round picks, nine Top five prospects,
eight lottery picks, seven top ten prospects, three number one prospects,

(01:47:09):
two number one overall draft picks, and I think there'll
be a third here when Cooper flags or drafted. Yes,
and yes. The only two times they made the Final four,
they lost both times, and there are expectations. I'm in Vegas.
That's a total of three hundred and fifty four games
in the last ten years, and Duke was favored in

(01:47:31):
three hundred and sixteen of those three hundred and fifty
four games in that span, including their loss to Houston
in the Final four. That's why you don't hate Duke,
because they don't win anymore. Save the speeches. By the way,

head toward the NBA playoffs, what are some talking points?

(01:48:40):
What are some end of the season questions thoughts as
you head into the postseason. And I gotta say you,
the news cycler around the NBA has been more fervent
this year that I can remember in recent years. We'll
touch on some of that for you. NBA Walks is,
by the way, eleven hours away from what will feel

(01:49:01):
like a playoff game. Steph Curry is calling this a
game seven. If the Golden State Warriors win, they will
lock in the sixth seed. They'll be in the real playoffs.
They'll face off against the Lakers. If not, they run
the danger of finding themselves in the playoff. And by
the way, later in the show, we're gonna break this
down the chaos and the west and who's got to

(01:49:21):
do what, where and when to qualify for the playoffs.
I'm Bernie Fraddle. We are coming to line from the
Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Tarreck dot com studios. Keep
it locked right here. You're listening to the Bernie Frattle
Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right back on the
Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio. Come you live from
the Tyrek dot com studios here in a Las Vegas,

(01:49:44):
just sixteen minutes away from the dance Sensation sweep in
the nation. What kind of brand new fool of you?
Followed by what my name? Before I get into some
of these questions facing NBA T teams as we head
into the playoffs. I don't know that I've looked as
forward to a regular season game as I am. It'll

(01:50:07):
tip off in a little over eleven hours from now,
the Golden State Warriors face off at home or four
and a half point favorites against the Clippers. This is
about a highest stakes regular season games there can be,
and it happens to be the season final because the
winner clinches a top six seed in the Western Conference

(01:50:28):
and the loser potentially falls to the playing tournament. Now,
Steph Curry, who's been in this year? Are big games
and not the least of which was the Olympic gold
medal game last year in all the NBA Finals games,
said quote on only be too dramatic, but this should
be kind of a game seven kind of vibe. You win,
you control your destiny, and a guaranteed playoff series if

(01:50:49):
you lose your role. The dice wouldn't quite call it
a game seven, because if you lose a Game seven,
you go home. Warriors are going to be in the playoffs.
Question is whether or not they're in the playing or
they face the lake. By the way, I don't think
the Warriors want to be in the plane for whatever reason.
They're zero to three in the play at tourney, and
even Draymond Green went on to say it will be

(01:51:09):
like a playoff game, super intense, two teams fighting for
the playoff lives. Expect to be a very physical, high intelligence,
high level basketball game. And you know, tip of the
cat to the Clippers this year. I mean, if the
basketball gods for once can smile on these guys, at
least keep them healthy during the playoffs. Right. Speaking of that,
you know Steph Currs no spring chicken. Now he's thirty seven,

(01:51:32):
and he aggravated his right thumb the other night, and
that you know, that's his shooting thumb, and he said
it affects it a little bit. Look, we don't know
how much it's going to affect it. He says, it
hurts right now, I'll be all right, But you'd rather
not have that than have it. Steph Curry is the
heart and soul of the of the Golden State Warriors.

(01:51:53):
So as we end the season and what's been a
very eventful NBA season, very newsworthy, noteworthy the NBA season,
I mean, I think people are still probably shaking their
heads in Dallas. They all thought that trade was a joke.
On Saturday night, what seven eight weeks ago now, when
it was reported that Luca was traded for for Anthony Davis. No,

(01:52:19):
you know it was people were scratching their heads. And
you know then Michael Malone, who just you know, ten
years with the Denver Nuggets, was just unceremoniously fired a
couple of days ago, just two years removed from a championship. So,
you know, I don't know how momentum works heading into playoffs.
You'd rather be in good shape than not good shape.
So the question is which of these teams that are

(01:52:41):
headed to the playoffs in terms of how they look
now would be the most concerning to you as a fan.
You folks in Milwaukee, the Bucks appear to be stumbling
into the playoffs. They're only six and six in their
last twelve games, and they're only certain of a top
six finish because the teams in the East that are
surrounding them have more shortcomings. But it doesn't bode well,

(01:53:04):
this is a team. How can it be that the
Milwaukee Bucks their offense ranks outside of the top ten
and they lost to twenty five point score Now, Damian
Lillard's blood clot issue and his ten game absence has
basically forced Jnis to carry the team on his back,
and he's basically been averaging a triple double. And they

(01:53:27):
say there's a chance Lillard can return before the postseason.
But here's the problem the Bucks, and you look at
that roster. They're eleven and twenty against teams with better
than five hundred records, And the teams are going to
be playing in the playoffs, most of them we're going
to have better than five hundred records. Now, how about

(01:53:48):
the Sacramento Kings two years ago, they had this feel
good season. They finished forty six and thirty six, and
then they missed the playoffs the next year. Now this
year they let go of Mike Brown, they're bringing Doug Christy.
In December, they were forced to trade the Aaron Fox
a couple months later. Sacto's lost seven of the last
ten games. They'll make the playing tournament most likely because

(01:54:09):
this for whatever reason, the Phoenix Suns, with all their talent,
just can't get out of their own way. And they're
skiddy again. But the Kings seem headed for not fun
offseason and DeMar De Rosen and Demontese Bonis I think
maybe they're not happy there anymore. And DeMont Bonas is
a rebounding machine. How about the Memphis Grizzlies. What kind

(01:54:33):
of train ark is this? This team? You fire your
head coach on the eve of the postseason, that's generally
a sign that things were going as planned, and typically
throughout the history of the NBA, when a head coach
is fired, it temporarily lights a fire under the team
and propels him to you know, an uptick. But since

(01:54:56):
Taylor Jenkins got fired, the Grizzlies are only two and three,
and one of the those victories came on a Jamaran
buzzer beater with his new grenade celebration. So bottom line,
simply put with or without Jenkins, Memphis doesn't look like
a playoff team. They haven't looked like a playoff team
for months. They're eighteenth in offensive, raiding and defensive ratings
since the all start break, and they're only ten and

(01:55:17):
fifteen in the last twenty five games, or eighth in the West.
That team's got talent, but they're stumbling into the playoffs
along with Milwaukee and Sacramento. All right, none of them
are title contenders in my view. So which title contender
should you be most worried about? Will it be Boston? Well,
they depend heavily on three pointers, forty six percent of

(01:55:40):
their points coming from behind the arc, only forty percent
coming from in front of the arc. And if you
rely on that style, it's lived by the sword, die
by the sword. It's got as obvious shortcomings. And you know,
and when Boston wins, they shoot about thirty eight percent
from behind the arc, but in their losses they only
shoot about thirty three per Jalen Brown, his three point

(01:56:03):
proclivities have fallen off the cliff. He's shooting a career
worse thirty two percent from three point land Jalen Brown,
and it was only twenty seven point nine percent in March.
So the Celtics, they lose their punch when the threes
aren't falling. Are the Celtics vulnerable, Yes, they are. They
are vulnerable. The Denver Nuggets another incredible crazy year from NICOLEA. Jokic.

(01:56:28):
He's gonna get MVP votes. I don't know if he'll
win it be the fourth and fifth years average a
triple double. This year he has covered up a lot
of the stench in the Mile High City. The bottom line, though,
is the Nuggets have serious defensive issues that even Jokic
can't cover up that will never bode well for a
deep playoff run. In the NBA. Denver has an incredibly

(01:56:50):
poor defensive rating, among the worst in both conferences one
to fifteen point one, and they're in the league's bottom
half and conceding second half or second chance points. So
when you allow points off turnovers, when you allow second
chance points, and your defensive rating is among the worst
in the NBA, Nicole Jokich is not like Bugs Bunny,
who can play all nine positions at the same time

(01:57:11):
in a baseball cartoon. Jokich does not have the supporting
cast to be a legitimate, legitimate title contender. I just
don't see it. They could prove me wrong. Now, how
about the Lakers, I think they're flawed too. All right,
you swap out Anthony Davis for Luca, and that obviously
puts them very much in the conversation. But the Lakers

(01:57:33):
are still searching for I think real consistency heading into
the postseason. They're basically only fifteen and ten since the
trade deadline, and they're in middle of the pack team
in offensive and defensive rating, ranking thirteenth and sixteenth, respectively.
When you have Luca, Lebron and Austin Reeves on the floor,
they look prolific offensively, But when they how is it

(01:57:57):
over the last three hundred minutes they're a negative two
point six net rating? All right, Now, Luca and Lebron
have been responsible in their careers for outstanding finals runs individually.
I think the Western Conference, when push comes to shove,
is going to be a bit too much for the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (01:58:18):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:58:20):
I hate to do this, but there's always coaches on
the hot seat. Nick Nurse, I've always been a big
Nick Nurse fan he's got a championship petigree, he's got
a you know, he's experienced guy. But the Sixers and
their star trio Joel Embiid, Paul George Tarreice Maxi, there
are just a constant mash unit. Nurse could not find
a consistent rotation. They had over twenty nine players on

(01:58:40):
the roster in Philadelphia this year and the team floundered
under five hundred. So you know, they can't fire the team.
So the coach is probably going to be gone. I
hope not.

Speaker 21 (01:58:50):
I like him.

Speaker 2 (01:58:51):
Willie Green. Same situation with the New Orleans Pelicans. They're
about to wrap up their fourth season with Willy Green
in charge. They're way under five hundred. Finally, Mike Boden
the Suns, they've had a disastrous season. They're outside the
playoff picture. How does that happen when you've got Kevin
Durant and Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. Beal blamed Budenholzer
for the decisions he's made, and it's been a really

(01:59:13):
disappointing year for a team that on paper has a
hell of a lot of talent. So I you know,
the Warriors Clippers game is going to feel like a
playoff game here in about eleven and a half hours,
and I'm here for it, and it all starts up
again this week coming up. What kind of brand new
fool of you? Followed by what my name? Keep it locked?
You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

That's shipstation dot com Code Sports. Well, we've come to

(02:00:21):
that juncture in the show. We do it every week.
You know you love you can't without a dance sensation
sweeping the nation. Look here on our show, we as
Yogi Bert would say, you could observe a lot by
watching that's exactly what we do see because around this
great country of ours, and even around the planet, well,

(02:00:41):
human beings they engage in behaviors that are sometimes very questionable,
and oftentimes they can land you in trouble. Sometimes it's
innocuous slap on the rest. Other times it can be
far more serious and even land you in jail. But
anyway you slice it, any way you describe it, any
way you characterize these actions, they always leave us scratching

(02:01:02):
our head and asking ourselves, what kind of brand new
fool are you?

Speaker 18 (02:01:12):
So?

Speaker 1 (02:01:12):
What kind of brand new fool are you?

Speaker 2 (02:01:16):
Well, everybody loves it when the ice cream truck comes
down the street with their funny painted colors and blaring
noises and all that. It's reeks of happiness. Right, we
take you this week to Slidell, Louisiana, where the owner
of an ice cream truck is in trouble. Now, what

(02:01:38):
the hell would a ice cream truck driver be in
trouble for when they make little kids happy? Well that's
where the story begins. When the owner of this ice
cream truck and Slidel, Louisiana was recently arrested. Say hello
to Tamisha Moran forty two years old. Now she's got

(02:01:59):
this blue ice cream truck. It's like an old converted
school bus with all the flavors of the ice cream
on the outside, coming up and down the streets. Even
got a thing for space jam. Everything looks great and
on the up and up until for reasons I can't explain.
And by the way, the name of the business was

(02:02:20):
Tammy's ice Cream and Sweet Treats. Yeah, sweet Treats, okay,
So here's the deal. M miss to misson morn was
driving down the road, but also ad an officer, police
officer just happened to notice, for no particular reason, that

(02:02:43):
the tags were expired on the truck and uh, the
brake lights were out. Yeah, serious stuff. So about eleven
thirty am in the morning, on one particular trail and
slide Elouisiana, the officer decided he'd pulled them over. And

(02:03:08):
what's interesting is he just kind of peeked inside and
he saw melted ice cream everywhere in the freezer and
on the counter and so on and so forth, and
he decided he would take a little closer look. And
as he opened up the freezer, he didn't see a
hell of a lot of ice cream. He did see
melted ice cream, but what he did see was meth

(02:03:30):
and other drug paraphernalia along with can't make this stuff up?
Two small puppies which are actually turned over to slide
Del animal control. No word, and if the puppies had
been eating ice cream or they'd been exposed to meth, well,
needless to say this. Morn was arrested for possession of narcotics,

(02:03:54):
had an outstanding ward and multiple other traffic violations in
addition to no brake lights and an expired license plate. Wow,
so that idea of selling sweet treats turned out to
be melted ice cream, meth and drug paraphernalia. Tamisha Morn
of Slidell, Louisiana, what kind of brand new fool of you?

(02:04:18):
All right, Brianna?

Speaker 22 (02:04:20):
Alrighty? So, in honor of our producer Shay, we're gonna
head over to Orlando, Florida. Zachary Cameron Raymard, aged twenty three,
was sentenced to six years for four million dollars spending
four million dollars on diamond grills and where he got

(02:04:42):
this four million dollars was from COVID relief funds. He
he was arrested for his restitution for a role in
a fraud scheme where they had been stealing credit cards
with the from the the EDD I guess, like the unemployment.

(02:05:03):
So uh, he was caught at a local jewelry kind
of like a like a kind of like on the
black market, I guess, like an undercover kind of jewelry
thing that the cops were actually there like undercover, and
so they caught him and they found all these credit
cards through like from California all the way to Florida,

(02:05:28):
and so that was worth about four million dollars. And
the reason why they caught him was he was trying
to buy some grills, you know, right, and you're just
in your mouth like that's what's what's definitely what you
would spend, uh, you know, four million dollars on definitely
some new grills.

Speaker 2 (02:05:44):
So not like you Randy put off the government, Yeah,
ripping off the government, ripping off COVID money, for ripping
off the.

Speaker 22 (02:05:52):
Yes for grills of all the things to buy. So
that fraud scheme ran from twenty twenty from until twenty
twenty two, and he was caught in March, so about
a month ago he pleaded guilty to wirefraud conspiracy. Also
earlier this year, so Zachary Cameron, Raymard, a guy with

(02:06:17):
two first names. What kind of brand new fool are you?

Speaker 2 (02:06:22):
A two year run of being a brand new fool?
That seems like a brand new veteran.

Speaker 22 (02:06:26):
Fool, right, Golley and so six years. I don't think
that's enough time. I'm gonna be honest.

Speaker 2 (02:06:34):
Yeah, four million dollars is a lot. You'd almost wonder
if there's sentencing guidelines on that kind of stuff. That's
a lot of money.

Speaker 22 (02:06:39):
I would do like seven years for each million, so
I'd go like twenty eight years.

Speaker 2 (02:06:45):
All right, Well, that will wrap up another rousing edition
of What kind of Brand New Fool Are You, which
now allows us to setuey into our second favorite bit
that we refer to as what my name? All Right?
Mark Medena and I. Earlier in the show, we're talking
about the NBA MVPs, so we start with a trivia question.

(02:07:08):
I am the first European player to ever win the
MVP in the National Basketball Association. Here's a clue. Played
for the same team that Luca used to play for. Brianna,
What my name? Dirk Nowitzki is the guy German. Dirk

(02:07:29):
Nowitzki got Dallas. They're only a championship too, all right,
off and running, all right? So uh, we recently finished
up a pretty exciting I thought, March Madness tournament. A
lot of heavyweights, not a lot of uh, you know,
Cinderella is not a lot of buzzer beaters. But nonetheless, okay, uh,

(02:07:54):
I am the youngest coach to ever win. Let me
let me try that again. I'm the youngest coach in
NCAA history to win the basketball championship. Mark Ramsey what
my name? And here's a clue. He did it very recently.

(02:08:15):
He did it for a school called Florida.

Speaker 9 (02:08:24):
I was only thinking of the guy Hurley.

Speaker 2 (02:08:27):
With that other oh Bobby Hurley or Danny Hurley at Yukon. Yeah,
he was not the youngest though. All right, I'm the
youngest NCAA coach in history to win the NCAA basketball championship.
Am I John Wooden? Am I John Calipari? Or am
I Todd Golden Breed? What my name?

Speaker 8 (02:08:49):
Todd Golden?

Speaker 2 (02:08:50):
It is Todd Golden from Florida, who just a couple
of years ago was coaching at San Francisco. Was a
pretty savvy point guard at Saint Mary's. He now has
the distinction. I believe he's thirty nine, the youngest coach
to ever win the NCAA basketball Championship. Interestingly enough, had
Houston held on, Kelvin Samson would have been the oldest

(02:09:12):
coach at sixty nine ever. Do it. Okay, let's switch
to baseball, but we're gonna stick with awards, believe it
or not. As a lifetime pitcher in the major leagues,
I lost more games as a pitcher than anyone in history.
Here's a clue. There's an award named after me, Mark Ramsey,

(02:09:34):
what my name.

Speaker 1 (02:09:36):
An award for the Is.

Speaker 2 (02:09:39):
It, Walter Johnson, Nolan Ryan, or Cy Young? It is
sim Believe it or not. Cy Young lost more games
than any other pitcher in major league history one and eleven,
but he lost more than anybody else. All right, back
to basketball. We were talking about this a little earlier

(02:09:59):
than show. There have been multiple players do this. But
I'm the most recent NBA player to average a triple
double for a season. Brianna, what my name is? In fact?
The guy he just did it this year. You know,
I think Russell Westbrook's done elect three times Robertson. Yes,

(02:10:24):
all right, so everybody's back a thousand, all right? Moving along? Uh,
you know, Rory may win the Masters, we'll see, but
whoever wins it this year, they won't be a repeat champ.
I'm the last golfer to win back to back Masters.

(02:10:44):
Mark Ramsey what my name? And I've mentioned him many
times during the show.

Speaker 13 (02:10:48):
Tonight, and it's a back to back winner.

Speaker 2 (02:10:54):
He got a big contract with Nike before he ever
played a single round. That would be Tiger Woods, the
last golfer to win back to back Masters championships. All right,
last question where we're kind of sticking on this theme

(02:11:14):
with awards A Now, there been for freshmen in the
history of NCAA college basketball to win the prestigious John
Wooden Award, but I'm the most recent freshman to win
the John Wooden Award. Brianna, what my name?

Speaker 3 (02:11:33):
It is?

Speaker 2 (02:11:33):
Cooper Flag from Duke all right, So you guys bat
in one thousand, Dirck Nowinski, Todd Goldensy Young, Nikola Jokich,
Tiger Woods, and Cooper Flag. And that will also conclude
what my Name as well as another rousing edition of
what kind of brand new food are You? By the way.

(02:12:38):
stuck in the playing round. I'm Bernie Fratto. Where coming
to your line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio

the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (02:13:00):
We're back on the Bernie Fritle Show Fox Sports Radio
Comedy lifcutarac dot com studios Here in Las Vegas, and
as they say, and then there was one. Every NBA
team has played eighty one games this year, but there
is one left to play later today, and in many

(02:13:22):
of these games there is a lot to be decided.
So after what one hundred games, there are still several
positions in the playoff standings and lottery standings are up
for grabs, and really the real confusion actually a confusion,
But the real dominoes are about to fall in the West.

(02:13:45):
So here's what we know for sure. There's only three
teams that are locked in. Nothing changes for them on
Sunday regardless. The Oklahoma City Thunder. Okay, they've been locked
into the top spot, not just in the conference but
in the whole NBA, So no matter who a case plays,
they're going to have home court advantage throughout the playoffs.
If they beat New Orleans Sunday in New Orleans, they'll

(02:14:08):
become the seventh team in NBA history to win at
least sixty eight games in a season. Pretty good company,
but it will go for not if theyn't at least
get to the NBA Finals. How about the Houston Rockets
give it up to Emiodoka. Rockets have been in the
second spot for some time now. This is one of
the most impressive campaigns, one of the most surprising seasons
in the NBA in quite a while. Rockets have also

(02:14:29):
locked up home court advantage across the opening two rounds,
and we'll see if their success carries into the playoffs.
And then to the mercurial Los Angeles Lakers. They beat
Houston crushed in by thirty, but Houston sattled their starters.
You can't glean anything from that. The Lakers are locked
into the third scene. But the Lakers like the thunder
and Rockets ahead of them. They're the ones waiting for

(02:14:52):
the chaos to reveal itself on Sunday. In the rest
of the West bracket. So here's what is left to
be Currently, Denver is the four seed. Denver controls their destiny.
The Denver Nuggets play the Rockets the number two seed,

(02:15:13):
they'll end up with the securing home ward advantage in
the first round. I don't even know if the Rockets
are going to play their starters. They got nothing to
play for. I look for Denver to remain in the
number four slot. Then you got the Clippers, who currently
are the number five. Now it's been a similar kind
of a story for the Clippers. They want in Sacramento
on Friday night to put themselves the verge are locking

(02:15:36):
in the playoffs. But however, they don't have the same
luxury as Denver. They have a tougher test ahead. They
have to Well, this isn't about ten hours. Ten and
a half hours. The Clippers visit Golden State as a
four and a half point underdog and they play against
the Warriors. You want this game very badly, so the Clippers.

(02:15:57):
If they were to win and Denver were to lose,
means the Clippers would be the four seed. But if
the Clippers win and never wins, that means the Clippers
would face the Nuggets. It's the fifth seed in the
first round. But if the Clippers lose to Golden State
later today, they're going to be in the playing round.
How about the Minnesota Timberwolves, currently the number six seed. Again,

(02:16:18):
that's before the final game is played. Now, the Timberwolves
would have been in position for home court advantage had
they not blown a twenty four point lead to the
Milwaukee Bucks earlier this past week. Still, well, Minnesota should
beat the Utah Jazz Sunday, they'll be guaranteed a top
six spot in the West, and thanks to their season

(02:16:41):
sweeps over the Nuggets and Clippers. Go figure, Minnesota could
actually grab the four seed if both of those teams
in front of them lose on Sunday. Now here's where
things get really complicated, because this slate of games is
going to decide who is in the playoffs and who's
in the play in We start with the Golden State Warriors,

(02:17:01):
who right now are the number seven seed. But the Warriors, again,
they have only themselves to blame. They gave up a
game winning three pointer to their former stud player Harrison
Bards against San Antonio this past Wednesday night, and then
Golden State followed that up with a win against Portland
on Friday. So now they enter today's game against the

(02:17:24):
Clippers needing to win to guarantee a top six spot
in the West. So if the Warriors and Wolves both win, well,
believe it or not, the Wolves would finish fifth, but
the Warriors would be guaranteed their sixth They would be
guaranteed a playoff spot as a sixth seed, and the
Clippers would be seven by virtue of their head to
head record. Between the two teams that is what I'm

(02:17:47):
rooting for, because I would love to see a first
round matchup a slugfest between the Lakers and Warriors, and
the Lakers would have home court advantage. But as you've
heard Mark Modena very eloquently say on my show many times,
he believes he would give the Warriors the advantage in
that matchup due to their superior defense. And I agree

(02:18:08):
with Mark. I agree. Now, Golden State, by virtue of
their head to head tie break over Memphis, well, they
can't finish lower than seventh, So at the worst case scenario,
Golden State will at least secure a chance to host
a playing game. One playing game. That's the worst that
can happen to Golden State. They're seventh right now, but

(02:18:29):
they beat the Clippers, they're the sixth seed, and the
Clippers will have to watch and see what happens in
the Golden State or checked at the Denver game, because
they could actually move to fifth even though they lose. Actually, well,
they would move to fifth, y'or fifth now, they'd stay
right where they're at. We drop to the aforementioned Memphis Grizzlies. Now,

(02:18:51):
the Grizzlies had a real chance to create an even
bigger chaos mess if they would have beaten the Nuggets
on Friday night. However, losing to the Nuggets Friday night, Memphis,
who hosts Dallas later today, is gonna need some help
to get out of the eighth spot. Memphis is in
the playing it just they cannot make the playoffs, but

(02:19:13):
they're gonna be in the plan, and they are locked
into the plan regardless. But at least Memphis could move
into seventh and get a home game if Minnesota loses
to the Jazz. I don't think that's gonna happen. There's
a reason that Jazz only win seventeen games this year,
and I think they're gonna end up on seventeen games
and they've got their site set on Cooper Flag. I

(02:19:34):
believe That's what I believe now Memphis, so it looks
like we'd either travel to Golden State or hosts Minnesota,
as the Wolves have finished eighth in a potential three
way tie. I don't think it's gonna happen that way.
I think Memphis will beat Utah Sunday. Then you got
the number nine Sacramento Kings and the number ten Dallas Mavericks.

(02:19:59):
This is a per simple equation for the final two
postseason spots, and yes, I do very much consider the
play in the postseason. It's a playoff. The Kings and
Mavericks enter today tied in the standings after the Kings
lost to the Clippers and the Mavericks beat the Toronto
Raptors on Friday night. Sacramento, however, does in fact control

(02:20:23):
their own destiny because they swept the Mavericks in the
regular season. Well, Sacramento needs a win over Phoenix or
Dallas loss to secure a home game for the nine
to ten play in matchup all right now against again
the lottery's coming up. I mentioned Utah, Utah and the
Wizards are won two, and after Utah and Washington both

(02:20:45):
lost Friday, they enter Sunday's action both tied for the
league's worst record at seventeen and sixty four. Utah plays Minnesota.
I already told you I fell about that Washington plays
in Miami. I just get the feeling Miami wins that game,
and right now Miami's in the tenth and final playing spot.
Utah will play in Minnesota while Washington plays in Miami.

(02:21:09):
If somehow they both finish up tied at seventeen and
sixty four. A coin flip will determine which team will
have the slot and the higher pick if Nita moves
up in the draft. The top three teams in the
lottery all have the same odds, so that won't change
either way. So there you have it. A lot of
questions are going to be answered on Sunday, and again
I'm rooting, Yeah, I'm rooting for Golden State to win.

(02:21:32):
They have a couple of possible outcomes. But if they win,
they get that sixth seed and they would face off
against Lebron and Luca and the Lakers. Can you imagine
the Keith nashing in Los Angeles if Lebron and Luca
go home after round one. On the other hand, I
don't think they'd be real happy in Golden State either

(02:21:52):
if they went home after round one, especially after Draymond
said he believed they were a championship caliber team any
minute we shall. That's why they got to play the
games on the floor. Another game they play. It's not
on the floor, it's on the pitch. And although it's
pronounced football is spelled fut v o l it's the
soccer styfle football. It's time for Chris Purfetts World of Soccer.

Speaker 5 (02:22:18):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drama. It's
all here in this report from the World of Soccer.

Speaker 23 (02:22:37):
Well, Bernie, has been a very busy week for one.
Leonel Messi back on Sunday with an equalizing goal on
a one to one draw against Toronto FC. He surpassed
Gonzalo Iguayne for the most goals in club history for
Inter Miami. Then we jump ahead to Wednesday, where a
two bowl game from the Gray Man put Into Miami

(02:22:59):
three to one over LAFC three to two on aggregate
to move to the next leg to the semi finals
of the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Miami is sitting second in
the Eastern Conference right now in the early season for MLS,
it takes on the Chicago Fire is in Chicago at
four thirty pm Eastern Time on Sunday. MLS Season pass

(02:23:22):
to watch that one, and it could be even more fireworks.
But we haven't even stopped with all the important news
about Leonel Messi. It does seem that, as reported by
David Ornstein on Friday, that Messi inter Miami are close
to an agreement over a contract extension. His deal expires
the end of twenty twenty five, but there are talks

(02:23:43):
for long that career for the thirty seven year old,
and it would be a huge boost once again for
inter Miami, not to mention MLS that has put a
lot behind the Messi strategy for themselves and their popularity.
They really need something like inter Miami I and MLA
Cup hopefully here very soon, especially after what just happened

(02:24:04):
with the ratings this past years where they slumped tremendously
in a way that I have not really anticipated from
MLS Cup ratings in the past. But a messy MLS
Cup would be fantastic. Inter Miami needs to put it together.
Leonel Messi has been fantastic and needs more pieces around him.
He has been exceeding all metrics so far expected goals

(02:24:29):
and assists per ninety minutes. Leonel Messi is ahead of
the pack out of everyone, way up above like zero
point six unexpected goals, way above point four unexpected assists
per ninety No one else in the MLS is close
to him in both of those. Now you have no
idea what a new Messi contract would look like, and
we know that inter Miami wants to have him along

(02:24:50):
for the club, for shareholders' support and everything else once
he does retire. MLS, however, is also looking towards its
own future. MLS announced that this week that it will
explore a switch, possibly in its schedule, which would take
the league from beginning in the spring and ending in
the tail end of autumn two more in line with

(02:25:11):
the European leagues which start in late summer and end
about you know, in a few weeks from now. The
main reason to do this would put MLS in line
with the European transfer market, which allow them access both
to more talent from Europe, but also for clubs to
really reap the rewards of high priced transfer fees to

(02:25:33):
Europe for any players they might end up selling down
the line. However, that move still ways out. They did
say that they are looking to do it probably around
twenty twenty seven, but not before that mark, so we
are still at least two years away from such a move.
The problem, of course, in that is means that MLS

(02:25:53):
would have to play through now there are a couple
of big obstacles to such a plan, as good as
that sounds. The first, of course, obviously, is North American winters,
which are harsh compared to the mild winters of Europe
and would probably cut out a lot of play in
cold weather cities in the United States and especially for
the clubs that exist in Canada like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.

(02:26:18):
It also starts to distance themselves from Lega MX in Mexico, who,
like a lot of other North American leagues, try to
play in a model where you play two to three
short regular seasons in a calendar year with a break
in between. This all comes as no surprise that MLS
has seen themselves as trying to compete with Europe and

(02:26:39):
be more like Europe.

Speaker 5 (02:26:40):
Will help them.

Speaker 23 (02:26:41):
Accomplish that goal and a cap off World of Soccer, Bernie,
there is one match, in one match alone I will
be watching on Sunday, and that would be Liverpool hosting
West Ham United. Why is this important? Even though I've
been of the opinion that the EPL race is over,
it could very well be over with a win.

Speaker 2 (02:27:00):
Here.

Speaker 23 (02:27:00):
Arsenal stumbled to a one to one draw with Brentford
on Saturday, which means that if Liverpool picks up a
three points in a win against nine eight and fourteen
West Ham United. They will be thirteen points clear of
Arsenal and with about after that six matches to play,
there's no one left to stop them. And I know

(02:27:22):
Liverpool fans out there have been holding their breath, the supporters,
always waiting for the worst case scenario to happen. But
with a thirteen point lead after Sunday, nobody's catching them,
certainly not this Arsenal club, which once again seems to
just be really fading down the stretch and still have
to contend with the Champions League in the midst of
all of this. Now, I'll do it for us, Bernie,

(02:27:44):
make sure to watch west Ham United and Liverpool because
England could be determined on Sunday. We'll see you next
time on the World of Soccer.

Speaker 2 (02:27:54):
So Chris has been doing this feature since before World
Cup in twenty twenty two, and I gotta tell you
just one time, I'd like to see the USA be
worthy of a legitimate mention in something that's not in
the pejorative. I mean, different coaches, different players, in different methodologies,

(02:28:16):
different scouting reports, Samuel crappy result. So we shall see
what we shall see in the World of Soccer. Coming up,
we wrap up the show, and I'm gonna say this
again for effect. Roy McElroy is about to play not
even close, the most terrifying, most important, the most impactful

(02:28:41):
round of his life. Later on today, I'll bring receipts
coming up. I'm Bernie Frattle. We're company live from the
Tirec dot com studios here in Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio.
Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, wrapping it up on

(02:29:02):
the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio. Coming to live
from the Tarat dot com studios. Thanks to my producers
Mark and Brianna. Thanks so much all your efforts tonight.
And by the way, call them the chaos with the
shipping software that delivers. Use code Sports for a free

(02:29:25):
Sports and be sure to tune into Draft Night Live
on Thursday, April twenty fourth at eight pm Eastern. Throughout
the first round of the draft in Saturday, Glazer, former
Jets general manager Joe Douglas, college football Hall of Famer
LeVar Arrington, and Fox Sports Lead college football reporter Jenny
Taft will have pick by pick predictions and reactions to

(02:29:46):
every first round pick. That's Thursday, April twenty fourth, at
eight pm Eastern throughout the first round, all the draft
live right here on Fox Sports Radio, brought to you
by Shipstation. A couple of quick matters. Gentleman named Ryan
Miller reached out to me says he believes that Jimmy
Valvano is the youngest coach to ever win a national championship.

(02:30:06):
Levno did win it in eighty three. A might have
been thirty seven and Golden's thirty nine, so it might
be right. I don't know why it was reported anyway, that's,
you know, fair enough. And one other quick thing we
talked about Nico Amiliava. Apparently he's war is coming out now.
He might have a little bit more difficult time finding
a potential landing spot than he might have thought once

(02:30:30):
he enters the portal. John Bryce, a football scoop reported
Notre Dame NSC do not have any interest. Texas Tech
has no interest. And although the speculation is UCLA because
it's close to Nico's home and his brother Madden had
been previously committed to the school, there's nothing concrete, you know,

(02:30:52):
connecting that this is going to be a story next
Saturday night on the midnight hour. We're going to dive
into this heavier, much heavier, because the portal opens up Tuesday,
so I want gear it up. Get your fingers ready
to want to hear Tennessee basically called Nico's bluff. They
let him walk, so he's taking a hell of a
risk and he's hoping now he lands in a better

(02:31:14):
situation than the one he decided to leave because two
point four million wasn't good enough for him, and he
was in the premiere conference in football, and if you
enter the Spring Portal, you can't stay in the same conference.
So this is the story we're going to continue to watch.
I'm not passing judgment. We're going to see where this
ends up. Maybe Nico gets the last laugh, but for now,

(02:31:34):
the sides are decidedly lining up with Tennessee. So we'll see.
Before I get into Rory McElroy on Sunday, which is today,
which is less than twelve hours away, he'll be teeing off.
He's attempting to make history. He will be his first masters.

(02:31:54):
But should Rory win Sunday and beat not just Bryson
Shambo with the other guys, behind him. He's going to
join Rarefied Air okay Abe the sixth golfer in PGA
history to have a career Grand Slam. You know, he's
won all four majors. Gene Sarah's and Ben Hogan, Gary Player,
Jack Nicholson, Jack Nicholson, Jack Nick Liss and Tiger Woods

(02:32:18):
all did it. So if Rory wins, he'll be the
sixth golfer to win all four majors. It'd be his
fifth major time for the twelfth most, but he'd be
a career Grand Slam, his twenty ninth PGA Tour win,
and it would put him up there with Lee Trevino
and Jean Littler. It some pretty good company. But he
still got to do it. Now, the sport miss is Tiger.

(02:32:39):
I don't give a damn what anybody says. And it's
really a shame because I think this is it for Tiger.
It maybe has been it, but this is really it.
This latest injury feels different, all right. I realized injuries
had been a constant in Tiger Woods's career ever since
two thousand and eight, when he basically was a superman
through a left knee injury to win an all time
US Open at Torrey Pines. He's had a lot of

(02:32:59):
SIP injuries, Okay, constant back yellments. He's got a disfigured
right leg after that twenty twenty one car crash. So
Tiger is Alwaukee mash Unit. He had surgery a few
tuesdays back to rupture repair his ruptured left achilles tendon.
And Tiger is Tiger, but he ain't Superman anymore. His body,
the human body, can only do so much. And Tiger

(02:33:21):
turns fifty in a few months, and it's a bad fifty,
which leads me to Rory. If Tiger were playing Sunday
and he had this lead, you figure it's a FATA complete.
But see, here's the deal. Even entering this year's Masters,
the stakes for Rory were high, very high. Now they're
always high in any major, but they're always higher at

(02:33:41):
the Master, and they're going to be higher for Rory
at the Master. And now that Rory has done what
he's done with back to back sixty six is and
he has the lead by two strokes, he's this close
to winning the Masters. And if you're even an average
sports fan, you know by now or I would say

(02:34:01):
you would agree that Rory has the dreaded label. He's
the greatest player of his generation to not win a
Master's and he's not won a major in a decade.
And listen, I had a caller call me out what
I refused to say, Duke choke, But I said Rory
choked at the US Open last year when he missed

(02:34:22):
two short putts and Bryson d Schambeau beat him. We
got a rematch. We got a rematch for some of it.
You know, he's got to beat the whole field. Just
Shamba is the closest. So here's Rory, a four time
major champion, never won the Masters, hasn't won a major
in over a decade, and the last time he got
this close was in twenty eleven. And you know what happened.
Brandell Chamblee, who has become a great voice for golfsid quote,

(02:34:46):
nobody anywhere, anytime all year will face as much pressure
as Rory does. Arriving in augusta nastional, he said that
before the tournament. Now, before McElroy shot sixty six and
sixty six back to back days on Friday and Saturday
to take the lead, before he became the clear betting
favorite before he got to Sunday with the lead, before

(02:35:10):
he set up with promises to be the biggest showdown
that golf can muster. Right now without somebody named Tiger Woods.
You got two high profile players on a high profile stage,
are going to do good out on Sunday. And again
I'll remind you there's a backstory. There's always a backstory.

(02:35:30):
McElroy's opponent just isn't anybody. Just ten months ago, Bryson
De'shambo broke McElroy's heart at the US Open, and there
was a sequence of events that began early in the
round with two short missputts from Rory and it concluded
with Deshambo's epic up and down for Par to clinch

(02:35:52):
the title. Clutch. Rory has yet to show that true
clutch gene. I'm not comparing them to Tiger. I'm not
comparing anybody to Tire other than Jack. And here's Rory's chance.
This is gonna be a referendum, and it's going to
be feast or famine now. On Saturday. When Rory hit
that eagle putt at fifteen, Shambeau Deshambaud was five shots

(02:36:17):
back five but then he burdied fifteen, Dishambau did, and
then when he burdied sixteen, he turned and looked at
the crowd, and the gallery went berserk, and he kind
of gritted his teeth and made like that old game
face that Bobby Knight used to make fun of, and
he tapped his putter on the green. He was physically
sending a message, you ain't getting rid of me this quick.

(02:36:39):
I'm not going to back down. I'm gonna be right here,
you old satchel page. Don't look back. Someone might be
gaining on you. Well, I think he is okay. Then
he holed out a birdie putt off the green at eighteen. Now,
just like that, he went from five shots back de
Chambeau did to two shots back. Yes, he's in Rory's face.

(02:37:01):
I am not implying that Rory is scared of the moment. However,
this is from the perspective of a guy who has
watched Rory in these key, high leverage moments when he
gets hot and it's hard to breathe struggle, even though
he's got quite a resume and has a real chance
to make history. Now, after Saturday's round, Rory was asked

(02:37:24):
how we'd spend his Saturday night in twenty eleven, when
he the last time he held the Master lead heading
into Sunday, he goes, I was fifteen years I got
have no idea. I'm glad I have a short memory
because that Sunday was not good. But you come on,
he's got to be thinking about it. This is a
guy who's spent with time with performance coach Bob Rotella,
working on his mindset and these little cliches in his mind,

(02:37:46):
a little aphorisms. All right, it's not just the fact
that Rory would win the Masters for the first time,
not just the fact that he would win the career
Grand Slam. No longer have the label of the best
golfer in his gym generation that never won the Masters.
But look, he'd be the only guy in this generation,

(02:38:06):
along with Tiger Woods, that has the career Grand Slam.
It would give Rory five majors. That would also match
Brooks Kopka for the most among his peers. And again,
it would erase all the ghosts of the past decade.
Forget all the high finishes. Those are reframed a failures.
Now they're going to be reframed as high finishes. That's
what happens when you win a Masters. It has a
forced multiplier effect. Rory McElroy has had plenty of PGA

(02:38:31):
Tour wins, and he's got FedEx titles and all kinds
of stuff, but winning cures all ills. Rory's gonna have
to win on Sunday. Can he do it? Yes he can,
but he still gotta do it. Jack Nicholas once said,
Tiger's gonna break all my records, but he still got
to do it. And you saw what happened and he
didn't do it. It's gonna do it for the Bernie

(02:38:52):
Frattle Show. See you next Saturday night at eleven. Keep
it locked up next to the Great Andy Furman.
