Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening. No Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Ah yes, ah, Yes, the band is back together. Welcome
to The Plank Show right here on Fox Sports Radio
along with Brianna Murrow along with Mark Ramsey. I'm Chris Plank,
bri Mark, What did I miss anything fun last week?
(00:24):
I mean, but you know how much of a draft
nerd I am. It killed me to not be a
part of this on Friday night killed me. I'm not
even kidding. And here's the thing that sucks more than
anything else. I did not have to take last week's
show off. I didn't have to.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Now, Jason Martin's awesome.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I'm sure you know you get a chance to hear
his unique perspective on things Jason's or rock Star. So
it's not like I'm sitting here here. I can't believe
I missed it for the people, but I just I literally,
when all was said and done, the party got canceled.
So I didn't have my adult birthday party, probably the
last one I'll get to throw. Not not like I
(01:04):
plan on you know, getting ended anytime soon. But I am,
you know, fifty, I think you kind of stop. I
don't know if the sixtieth birthday party is really celebration
as much as it is like, hey, man, you're on
about hold two on the back nine. Man, you're hanging
in there. Okay, how's things going?
Speaker 3 (01:17):
You good?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
But what I missed, Bri? How was last week? How
was your week?
Speaker 4 (01:22):
It was fun?
Speaker 5 (01:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:24):
After the draft? I mean I was thinking about you
the whole time. I'm like, oh my god, what's Chris
thinking right now?
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Not only after the draft, but I mean, if you are,
if you haven't, I think Shady Sean our man, Shady
Sean twenty had done a good job of keeping tabs
on what show we're on. This is episode number eleven,
And if you've kept tabs on the show, you know
(01:49):
there's quarterback conversations that are like Numero uno on the
depth chart of my infatuations and sports.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Oh, we got them everywhere.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
We got Derek Carr preaching, got Aaron Rodgers going I
don't know where you got mister forgotten cam Ward, And
you got prank calls that people are losing their minds about,
like they haven't happened for twenty years. In the NFL Draft,
you got quarterbacks that were projected to be first round
picks that are going in the fifth and seventh round.
I mean, bri this week, I had a lot of
(02:20):
fomo from all the storylines we had. It was great.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
It's great, and there is a lot happening.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
You guys got to chop it all up. Last Friday night, Well,
I was doing this terrible thing called sleeping. I will say,
you know, it's kind of funny. I worked a third
shift for many years, and you know there's certain times whenever.
Maybe my dad when I was growing up, always work
shift work, so you know, one one month would be
(02:50):
like nights, one month would be days, one month would
be overnight. So it's just it was crazy. But he
would always tell me another thing that I don't have
a problem doing whenever I'm not working overnight. I'm like,
I don't know, Dad, what's that he's ex sleeping. He's like,
sometimes if you do a morning show, or if you
work in the morning, even when you take say an
afternoon shift, or you start working afternoons, you might still
(03:12):
naturally still get up at that time, right, But when
it comes to overnights, it's like, what, I don't have
to be up at two am Eastern time? Oh? Good,
Mark Ramsey, how was your week? Good? Week, busy week.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
For you, regular busy week, but good stuff.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Good good. We could talk weather all night long too,
if you guys wanted. It rained more than I've ever
seen it rain in my beautiful, wonderful state of Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
So I had to get away.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
So we are coming to you tonight live from Gainesville, Florida, where,
let me tell you, Florida people, we need have a
major conversation on driving because none of you all can
do it. I've been here since Wednesday night. We're staying
right on campus, and I'm not making this up. I'm
(04:01):
not trying to be dramatic. I've seen a wreck every
single day, every single day, and it's always involving Here's
what it is. Either a someone running right into the
back of someone or b someone just merging into a
lane with no care for a car being in that lane,
no care whatsoever. This place is crazy town now. I
also chose to come to Florida on the weekend of graduation,
(04:26):
and I don't they have two grad They have like
eighteen graduations going on each college as a graduation, and
then by that you know the business college, and I'm
sure everyone is getting ready for billions of dollars they're
going to make with that communications degree that they're graduation.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
They're graduating with today.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
But BRID tell me, is this normal because every single
one of the individual colleges does a graduation and then
tomorrow night they have one major and full school graduation.
Is that normal?
Speaker 4 (04:57):
So I remember, like when I graduate from Coulsey Fuller, Tango, Titans,
Titan Baby, so communications, of course, we did have our
own day and time and in regards to like our yeah,
specific school. So then school of Engineering would have theirs.
Still of Business, I think had two separate ones because
(05:17):
we were so known for that. But I don't remember
a huge large That sounds a little wacky and to
me too, Yeah, I don't know about that.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
But I think I think what they do and I
don't you know it, I probably need to look this
up before. And this is not a slide by any means.
At the University of Florida, everyone has their their own
kind of thing. But for instance, there's sixty one thousand
students that apparently go to the University of Florida, forty
(05:47):
three thousand undergrads fourteen thousand, so you know, give or
take a few there fourteen thousand plus almost fifteen thousand
grad students, and then there is something here called thirty
five hundred and ninety one professional students.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
It's a job I can get into. People.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
What do you do playing I'm a professional student? Oh yeah,
because when I was a student, I'd never go to class,
So I mean professionally, I'd be great at that. But
it's been a little bit of a different world down here.
But great people. It's humid, it's always hot, I'm always sweaty.
But it's anytime we can hit every time zone.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
For the show, I think we're good.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
So we've obviously done a show on the Pacific time
zone because that's where Mark and Brie live. I'm normally
in the Central times and I think we had a
Mountain time zone show, and now we have an Eastern
time zone show. And this, by far, by far is
the most confusing time zone. To figure out what mode
we're in for this show. Are we in a recap
(06:44):
of the night before? Are we on a full on
preview of the day ahead of us? Most confusing thing ever,
And by the way, nothing like a three hour tease.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
But did you see on the schedule who's coming up next?
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Right? Sports Radio I'm so excited. I'm excited the stinking
genius Arnie Spanier and it sounds like they got twenty people.
I mean, I can't wait for Jeff Schwartz staff to
deal with Arnie. I don't know if Jeff's ever worked
with Arnie before. Jeff's one of my favorite dudes on
the planet. But yeah, Arnie is in for the fellows.
(07:19):
Both Big Aunt and Jason are taking the I guess
what morning off Jason Fitz So yeah, that should be fun.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Anyway, we got two different temperaments. I'm really excited.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yeah, I mean, come on, you kidding me? And I
guarantee you through out the whole program, Arnie will be
begging to try to get on their Sunday show because
he truly thinks he's a handicapper. So as always, anyway,
there is a tom Foolery of the Weekend. Thank you,
thank you, thank you guys for tuning in tonight. As always,
there's many ways to get involved in the show. If
you know what you want to talk about before Bremark
(07:52):
and I set the table, you can hit us up
on Twitter. That's at Fox Sports Radio. I am I'm
at Plank Show, which has kind of been a mix
of college diamond sports and maybe a little bit of
college and pro football throughout the week.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
You can always find.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Brianna at Breed Denise twenty six and of course someday
we're going to get mark Is on Twitter feed as
well too. In the meantime, you want to pick up
the call the phone and call us, we take a
call throughout the night eight seven, seven ninety nine on
Fox eight seven seven nine ninety six six three six nine,
every social media front. I mean, if you're more of
(08:30):
a Facebook or an Instagram person, at a Plank show, everywhere,
at Fox Sports.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Radio, everywhere.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
And I'm still working on getting approval for using my
phone to have a text number, because I do feel
like it's a little easier to text than it is
to call throughout the night. All right, Listen, we have
so much to get to tonight. I don't even know
where to start. Uh, there's a part of me that
(08:58):
wants to start with a game seven in the West
and how what the Rockets have done is what we
all thought that the Lakers would do. What the Rockets
have done in kind of bowing up and winning their
last two games and realizing, hey, we got an advantage here.
And even if Steven Adams isn't like the most efficient
(09:21):
scorer in the league or effective score, or even if
he's not, say, I don't know the dude that he was,
you know, eight years ago with a thunder, Let's see
what he can do. If we just decide, hey, you
can't stop a big and it's worked, it also doesn't
hurt the Rockets that Fred van Vlietz suddenly looks like
the dude that won a title in Toronto. So we'll
dive in to a little bit of that. I think
the bigger question here, and maybe this is just kind
(09:45):
of me being now I guess a Thunder fan full
time twenty four to seven, three sixty five, is will
there be anything left with these four whomever moves on?
If it's Golden State and Houston and the bottom part
of the bracket, if it's Denver and the Clippers in
the top part. You know, the Thunder finished Memphis in four,
(10:07):
the Tea Wolves finish the Lakers in five, and honestly
didn't have to break too much of a sweat on
either front. Meanwhile, the Warriors and Rockets are kicking the
hell out of each other and the Nuggets and Clippers
have gone back and forth NonStop. It's been amazing to
watch this play out between those two teams. So I
(10:28):
guess maybe the overriding question here doesn't even really matter,
because will there be anything left in the tank for
any of those teams that move on? Maybe more so
for the Rockets because they're a little bit younger. But
we'll debate and discuss that later. And I will say,
you're talking about a Golden State Warrior team that you
know has lived by the three and died by the
three for the better part of the last fifteen years,
(10:50):
and they're dying by it right now. And Steph's thumb
is not right. He's fourteen for thirty one in the
first three games of the series behind the three point line,
shooting forty five percent from beyond the three point arc.
In games four, five, and six, he's twelve percentage points lower.
Eleven of thirty three has n't been good. But that's
(11:11):
a place where I'd love to start and get your
thoughts on it. At eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
I think beyond what happens on the court, Bree europe
Sons fan. I'm a Lakers thunder fan, or at least
someone who loves the NBA wildly. Not as mad at
the Lakers exit as I thought I would be the
other night.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
I don't know what to make of that.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
But regardless of whom you're a fan of, there is
a certain level of like kudos and out of boys
that gotta go out to one of the greatest coaches
in NBA history. You know, I'm not a big Mount
Rushmore guy, but he's probably there as far as the
all time great coaches. If he's not, then dude, we're
(11:56):
gonna have a pretty good scrap to figure out who's
going to be up there beyond him. Phil Jackson deserves
conversations obviously, Rad hrback. You know, maybe maybe you talk
about pat Riley. I don't know, but at the very
least Popovich is a dude that is the best of
the best and did it did it in a way
that was his own. So if you missed the news tonight,
(12:19):
even though he hasn't been coaching since in November, Greg
Popovich is done. He's retiring as a coach and moving
into a front office role.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Will who be the president of Spurs?
Speaker 2 (12:28):
A little bit surprised by the tact that the Spurs
took instead of maybe reaching out to see, hey, who
who can we find? Who can we get who might
be a name that would be interested in coming here.
There is an incredible tree of coaches that Greg Popovich
has helped develop and grow. You know, we're watching two
of them coach in the Western or for a spot
(12:50):
in the Western Conference finals right now. The tree is
is massive, but they decided to keep it close to home.
Mitch Johnson was a guy that you know, kind of
got the feet as the interim and now he's going
to take over. But I do want to spend some
time tonight just going through what is a run. I
(13:11):
don't know, Brie, I don't want to be too dramatic
about this, but I don't know if we're ever going
to see anything like this again, and not just in
the NBA, but maybe in sports period.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
You know, basically thirty years with the.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Same team, all of them at the same place. He's
talking about five championships and doing it with, you know,
a roster that had I mean, I don't know if
this is talking out of my ass or not, but
I mean I kind of feel like pop was one
of the first guys that really kind of went out
(13:44):
and did it with more than just you know, Hey,
here's a guy that we brought in from Duke, and
here's a dude from Tim Dunkles from Wake Forest, and
here's two guys from Kansas. I mean, Manu was a
dude that came from overseas and Parker from France, and
they stashed him for a couple of years, and then
they would go get veterans whom we thought their career
was done, Steve Kerr, Avery Johnson, Vernon Maxwell, and they'd
(14:07):
turn around, they'd have some success in San Antonio.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
So not only in the.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Way that he did it, but Bri, I mean, basically,
thirty years at the same place, this isn't happening anymore,
is it.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
I just feel like Eric Spolstrom might be like the
one that's actually active right now, that might be like.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
I like that had thought of that one. That's yeah good.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
I think that that'll be like the last one that'll
ever come close to it. And I don't know if
that's going to be even as close as way Papovitch
is done. But no, I don't think it's something we'll
ever see again.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
So anyway, we got a lot to get to and
that's only on the NBA. I have you know a
question that I would pose to night on the NBA,
not just you know, on Popovich's legacy, which I mean,
we are talking about too, a franchise that hasn't reached
the playoffs in the better part of the last what
(14:58):
four seasons, and they haven't won a playoff series since
the twenty sixteen what twenty seventeen season, six straight years
in which they missed the playoffs. Now you can look
at that roster and realize, you know, when you graduate,
I graduate, retire names like Duncan and Genobi, Lee and Parker,
and then Kawhi Leonard doesn't want to stay because he
(15:19):
kind of thought he was going to be your future.
And then you know, he goes on his tour of
what Toronto and then out to Los Angeles, you know,
post his time at San Antonio. Just you know, it
took them a while to kind of back into that
number one pick and get Victor Winbinyama. But in fairness,
it like hasn't been this instant success Tea Buys and
(15:39):
they got a hell of a roster right now. You know,
you got de Aaron Fox in there. They they got
a good young squad. But you know, we're at a
decade since they've been somewhat relevant in the NBA, so
maybe some of the true greatness of Pop as a
coach has been forgotten. And let's face it, Greg Popovich
(16:01):
is also one of those dudes that's been very outspoken
on the political side of things. He's not afraid to
let you know how he feels politically. But I think
in the end, it doesn't matter what his views are
off the court. It doesn't matter. You know that this
team has struggled the way that they have as a
franchise to get back to their winning ways over the
(16:21):
last decade.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Do won five titles five?
Speaker 2 (16:25):
I mean, he's one of the best, and san Antonio
appears to be pretty well set for the next couple
of seasons. But you know, Pop's legacy is one that
I think I want to get into tonight at eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox. And you know, in that
we do have a handful of second round series that
are set and ready to go.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
I say a handful all but two.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
So of those, I mean, which Nick Celtics, I think
that's pretty fascinating out of the East. You know, the
Calves Pacers I think is going to be fun. In fact,
the Cavs Pacers actually gets underway Sunday.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
And to wait tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
I mean, we're gonna have a Game seven on Saturday
night tonight between the Clippers and the Warriors. I'm sorry,
Clippers and Nuggets. And you're gonna have a Game seven
tomorrow night between the Warriors and the Rockets. And oh yeah,
also tomorrow we gonna have Game one Eastern Conference INMI
Finals between the Pacers and the Calves. Which series you
think shapes up to be the best eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox. But when we come back, all
(17:23):
the NBA stories aside, Oh what a week it was
in the NFL. We had draft fallout, we had prank calls,
we had quarterback questions that have been left unanswered, and
much much more. So we'll dive into some NFL next
with Bray With Mark on Plank, you're listening to Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (17:42):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
You know, I got it.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
I gotta give a a tip of the cap to
Rob Parker because if you follow Fox Sports Radio on Twitter,
I don't know Brian, I don't know who he give
credit on the social media side Isiah Elijah. There was
the clip today that's making the rounds and we're gonna
play it later. And while maybe I look at it
(18:17):
a little differently, and I think Greg Popovic's greatest accomplishment was,
you know, winning titles and you know, finding ways to
continue to bridge the gap for foreign players, players overseas
to come and have success in the NBA, you know,
in power you know, maybe guys like Tony Parker and
Monogenobli and kind of coach the way that he wants
(18:38):
to coach. And Rob Parker brought up a great point today.
He's like, no, no, no, man, his best accomplishment was
load management, and that it was Popovich that kind of,
you know, really initiated it. We'll get to that coming
up a little bit later on the program. But I
see you line it up so real quick before we
get to the calls. I cannot believe that we're sitting
(18:58):
here in a post draft world and bring my favorite
story in all eleven episodes so far, the Playing Show
has been the future of Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Now again, let me pull back a bit.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
I'm a college football guy, so I don't think some
of us might be struggling to stay up late enough
as it is at our job. So I really don't
want to lull you to tears and bore you to
tears with any house settlement conversations. Hey, you guys want
to talk some politics in the world of college football,
That to me is the biggest story, right. I just
(19:32):
realized that you guys probably couldn't care less at this
time of night, and there's really no entertaining way to
talk about it. So I've granted us clemency from that conversation,
but I haven't when it comes to Aaron Rodgers, and
I still can't believe that here we sit on May third,
and unless I completely slept through something this week, bre
(19:56):
how is he still not on a roster? He's totally
not playing, is he? I gotta start accepting this.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
I think. So you got to hit your hit all
your levels of grief Aaron Rodgers grief, I mean, he done.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
He done. First of all, I am absolutely shocked by
the way that everyone in everyone was wrong about Shadoor Sanders.
I like, how you know, it becomes well, Mel Kiper
was wrong, No, no, no, Mel was wrong. He just
wasn't one of those guys. I was like, wow, I
missed on that. That's crazy. It was everyone else's fault.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
New knows.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Maybe in five years from now we look back and
it is with Shador Sanders. But everybody, and I do
mean everybody was wrong about where Shador Sanders was going
because what did we hear? Well, the ceiling is three
to the Giants and the basement is twenty one to
the Steelers. Well, Pittsburgh for now has said, hey, we're
(20:52):
good with Mason Rudolph, Skuyler Thompson and sixth round pick
Will Howard, who, by the way, is probably not an
NFL quarterback. And I love Will Howard. I love his story.
I covered him when he was at Kansas State, you know,
when he was back up. It's funny because literally that
(21:14):
whole quarterback room right now in Pittsburgh is big twelve.
Mason Rudolph was a star at Oklahoma State, and Skyler
Thompson was the starter at Kansas State who was followed
by Will Howard. Before he transferred to Ohio State. I mean,
it's crazy, and I mean I just I can't fathom
that's what Pittsburgh is going into season with. I can't
(21:38):
unless there is another move, and I don't know what
that move is. But you can't win games, can you
with that quarterback room? I mean, Steeler fan, what are
we even doing right now? I know that you know,
Justin Fields is now the starter with the Jets, and
it looks like Russell Wilson's going to be the starter
(21:59):
with the Giants, but how are we in a world
where and again where it's May. So we got a
little bit of time so you can wait, and you know,
we do have the video of Aaron Rodgers, the only
DK Metcalf and things like that. But before we get
to the phone, this cannot be the plan of Pittsburgh,
(22:20):
can it. This can't be the plan. I know Mike
Tomlin has told us a thousand times that he's comfortable
with Mason Rudolph, But I mean Steeler fans can.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
Be comfortable with Mason Rudolph.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
I feel like Maxon Rudolph has been in the league
for forty years. I mean, what's he best known for
having Miles Garrett swing a helmet at him. I mean,
what are we even doing right now, Pittsburgh. And I'm
not trying to tell you that you whift on not
getting Sanders, That's not my point.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
But does it just seem awkward that whenever?
Speaker 2 (22:50):
You know, if that was the Saints quarterback grim and
no offense to your Saintsbury, but that would make sense
because some people feel like they're about to hit a reset,
right if that was I'm trying to think of another
team that we might be looking at. That's kind of
resetting things a little bit in the NFL right now.
Hell mayby even the Raiders. You might be like, oh, okay,
well and they did it last year. I guess Gardner
(23:12):
Minshew will be the starter. I mean, come on, what
is going on here? These are the Pittsburgh Steelers and
you're gonna go into the season with that quarterback depth chart?
Speaker 3 (23:24):
No way? Right? They have to know that Aaron Rodgers
is gonna be there right.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
Right right, or maybe he's he's also like fifty to fifty.
He's trying to say like, hey, there's a good chance
I'm gonna come to you guys. And there's also a
chance that I'm going to retire.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
Just continuing to play him, I guess.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
And they're willing to be played. If you as as
an organization, if you're willing to be put in that
you know position, then like they deserve whatever is coming
to them.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
Well I will I.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Will close on this of all the things that stood
out to me in the draft, moves that were made
for teams like Tennessee to bolster their offense, for the
Raiders to get a little bit more explosive, for the
Chiefs to upgrade their offensive line, for the Eagles to
continue to stockpile good players, for the Ravens to continue
(24:15):
to just drive. I mean, there's a great cut going
around about, you know, the Ravens draft philosophy over the
last twenty four hours. It's it's still shocking that that
is the quarterback room for the Pittsburgh Steelers. That's what
the proud Steelers franchise is going to go in with
two of the most explosive receivers right now in the game.
And hecame Metcalf and George Pickens. That's what you're going
(24:38):
to try out there at quarterback. It's just it's unbelievable,
all right. Anyway, let's go to the phones eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine
six sixty three six nine, rolling past the bottom of
the hour Fox Sports Radio and our leadoff man Steve
in Kansas City. What's going on, Steve? How's Ksey treat you?
Speaker 7 (24:58):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (24:58):
Playing man boy? A lot to break down to.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Let's get after what's on your mind? Let's go.
Speaker 8 (25:04):
Let me let me tell you. You know, I would postulate
to the the privateers in planks militia here that there
would be.
Speaker 9 (25:15):
No OKAC without Greg Papa bitch. I mean, we're all
in huge OKC homers here, So let's just put that
out on the table. But you could say that he
is the most one, if not the most influential coaches
and greatest obviously, Phil Jackson will probably always be number
one with eleven championships and red Auerbach integrated, the league
(25:39):
had integrated, the coaches, integrate all five starting players. But
you watch that playoff tonight and and Greg popa pops
fingers are all over that thing is the international player.
The the game is better than it's ever been, regardless
of whether you know people are watching watching again, the
(26:02):
load management for better or the better for better or
for worse. When I was a kid, international players were
regarded if your name wasn't a chem Olaj Dwan or
you know, if you weren't if you weren't one of
the Russian guys, you know, like Sa Bonus, you were
considered inferior. He he changed, you know, eighteen years with
(26:25):
fifty plus wins.
Speaker 10 (26:26):
The guy.
Speaker 9 (26:27):
I mean, he's definitely on pat Riley, You're Mount Rushmore,
Red Auerbach, Phil Dackson. I mean, he's solidly on the
on the Mount Rushmore for for sure. I would I
would say how influent the debate should be. How much
of an influence? Is he more influential than than Red
Hour I would love to hear maybe someone from Boston
(26:48):
if he's more influential than red Auerbach?
Speaker 10 (26:51):
And I think, I.
Speaker 9 (26:52):
Mean, it could be a tie. It could be a
tie on this. And I want to bring in Breed
for our other our other question. Mind, Steve, Okay, we're
talking college football that Jordan Hudson is now, I guess,
an eight million dollar brand manager for Bill Belichick while
doing pageants at the same time. Should we respect the
(27:15):
hustle or apparently Bill Belichick's friends are going to have
an intervention to try and separate her from him. Is
this a positive? Is this a positive or a negative?
That she is taking over the Belichick brand and it
doesn't seem like she has any contractful position, but it's happening.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
Good question, Good, all right, Thanks for the call, Steve.
I'm gonna let you go, because did you like the
weird phone thing? The littlest thing now as soon as
I turn fifty, the littlest thing like drives me crazy.
Speaker 5 (27:46):
It was clicking.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
I can get that.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
Thank you. I'm not losing my mind.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
Mark. All right, Brie, this is a topic woman. I
have not spent as much time as the rest of
my media friends have spent on it. So I don't
know how you feel about the week of Jordan Hudson.
Maybe we've learned a little bit too much about her family,
But what do you make of this ongoing saga that
(28:11):
seems to have infatuated the media world, especially those in Boston.
Speaker 4 (28:15):
She's a creep like, she actually creeps me out, Like,
so she had an ex boyfriend that was sixty four?
What yeah, before Bill Belichick, she had an older boyfriend
already like an older yeah, sixty four, It says okay,
and then now her real estate portfolio is worth like
(28:35):
millions of dollars. Now, I guess it.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
All because of her tied to Belichick.
Speaker 4 (28:39):
That's what That's what I think, is like another little
rumor and then like what was interesting. I don't know
if you heard Charles Barkley yeah on a DP, like, oh, yeah,
I should probably give him a call.
Speaker 6 (28:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
It's a little weird because that interview that you know,
the CBS one where they asked him like, hey, how'd
you guys meet? And she shut it down. She's like,
he's going to add like that's creepy. Also like that's
some kind of like I don't I don't know, it's
like some controlling and I feel like that's very vice versa.
Usually it's like older guys controlling like younger women women
(29:12):
like usually when they're dating them. This is like very
vice versa. Like she seems very controlling over him, and
like why hard knocks didn't happen? Now is like coming
out like ooh, it's creepy.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
His daughter in law, I guess, has poken out against
her too. Jennifer Schmidt, who's married to Steve Belichick, by
the way, very close in age there.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
I don't know, man, It's it's very odd.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
It's creepy, right, I just like that's just the word
I just keep thinking of. It's creepy. It's eerie. It's
like I feel like it's like a horror story movie
that could like come out, you know. I don't know,
like he was like brainwashed or something.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
It's funny because there's these moments where they're like, oh, man,
look at Belichick, you know, for lack of a big
danging out a girl right hot, Yeah, she's this beauty patch.
She's a smoke show. And then all of a sudden
you kind of learn a little bit about the crazy
and you're like, okay, all right, I'm not gonna let
(30:14):
him talk about how they met, but I'm very comfortable
with talking about how I met, like my wife or
I'd be very comfortable talking about how I met, you know,
a girlfriend. I don't understand why that was such a
such a thing too, Like, of all the things to
get mad about how they met, don't get it. I
(30:35):
do appreciate, though, how Steve continues with his trend of
anything relational or involving like a girlfriend or a female.
He goes right to you, Bree, he knows what to
do here. On Popovich, you know, I don't know if
you could say the most influential guy in the league period,
and I'm going to assume that Steve means, you know,
(30:57):
integrating more of the foreign players and doing it in
a way to where they're not just a novelty, right,
They're a major part of what they were doing.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
I didn't helped that, you know, the league.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
The guys that we brought over from overseas have been
bawlers for the most part. And I don't know if
maybe you're looking at it from a small market perspective too,
because you know, even before him, Jerry Sloan and the
Jazz were having some Now they didn't win titles, but
there was that feel that, oh, you gotta have a
major market in order to be consistently successful in the league.
(31:32):
And he showed that you can do it at San Antonio.
It's a good question, all right. I think we have
time to fit in one more before the break. And
Andre was second in tonight in Massachusetts. Always a good
perspective and take from Andre. What's going on? Man? Welcome
to Fox Sports Radio, Andrey.
Speaker 11 (31:49):
Yeah, how you doing? Thanks for taking the call a
lot of great topics. I think Bree brings up a
good point in terms of Bill Belichick and the situation
with a significant other and actually has a little bit
of history rate, and there's a couple of ways to
look at it. But this is calamitous as far as
I'm concerned in terms of Bill Belichick. This is supposed
to be mister do your job. This is the Patriots way.
(32:10):
This is six championships, This is the dynasty Bill Belichick
who says, I'm not gonna pay a guy. Rather, I'm
gonna get rid of him a year early, rather than
paying him what he's what his market value is worth,
because we have to make everything subservient and into the system,
into the whole and now and now all of a
sudden he's getting bossed around by a team bopper. We
(32:32):
determine not We've gone into the twilight zone here, all right,
This is so outlandish in terms of who somebody is
in one instant, and frankly, I think it was the
snap back from the NFL. The NFL team said, look Bill,
the four years with the Patriots, particularly when you put
Matt Patricia and Joe Judge at the offensive coordinator and
you become you know, doctor Strangelove over here, and we're
(32:54):
not just gonna let you come in here and do
what you want to do.
Speaker 9 (32:57):
Rit large, you're gonna And Bill wouldn't do it.
Speaker 10 (32:59):
He wouldn't give up.
Speaker 11 (33:00):
The administrative control for his coaching control. And you know,
he's he's absolutely thunderstruck. And it's entered into another realm
that that is, you know, in terms of you know,
so right now we're still kind of he's on the
one you know, it's one of these things. I feel
like he's on the slippery flope going down. Uh, but
(33:20):
we haven't got into like the college football part where
he actually had to coach the whole new NIL era,
which is like the total opposite of what he has
been before. You know, he goes to college, you know,
a way from the NFL, but now college is more
of the NFL than the NFL with this one year proposition.
So Bill Belichick specifically, you.
Speaker 10 (33:37):
Know, it's it's.
Speaker 11 (33:39):
You know, I can't even think of any more, you know,
but it's a whole other realm from who you are
in one instance and then a short time later after
one rejection, you know, it's tumbling all the way down.
Speaker 10 (33:49):
You talked about a coach.
Speaker 11 (33:50):
Pop wonderful uh topic, you know, in terms of act first,
it's first things first, and he got some callers, So
we want Top to be healthy. He's had health issues
this whole year, you know, and so he's taking a
step away, you know, and he just had a recent
you know, like a month or you know within them,
you know, so Pop get healthy. It's a seamless transition
going into the front office. You know, you're and you're
going to be good for the Spurs, and he's just
(34:11):
good for the NBA overall. It's not just when I
think about Popovich and how people talk about him and
how listen. It may not be your thing for people
in sports and talk politics, but he did speak to
social justice issues that do impact the people that he
works with.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
Appreciate the phone call. Good stuff, man, good stuff. We'll
get a break. I want to dive into a little
bit more on, you know, getting healthy for pop. I mean,
obviously his coaching career is done, but an incredible legacy.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
So when we come back.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
You know what, what kind of is that balance For
some that can't can't look past some of the political
takes to embrace the success.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
On the court. It's it's true. Oh, it's true. Busy night.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
We're getting your calls.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Find them up.

The YouTube page, excuse me, is where I saw our
man Rob Park with his load management.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
Take that I want to share with you guys.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Coming up next, but Mark and Maryland, we'll give him
the last word on the phone. This hour eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
What's going on?
Speaker 2 (35:46):
Mark?
Speaker 3 (35:46):
How you doing tonight?
Speaker 10 (35:48):
I'm fine? Thank you so much. I may really enjoying
your show. You got a lot of topics. I want
to chop it up on.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
Let's do it.
Speaker 10 (35:56):
I want to start on saduor Sanders. It's still so
suspect to me that so many draft pundits had him
rank so high everybody and he drops so low. Now,
I understand that there's been some really bad character guys.
(36:18):
Talent outweighs everything, so if they thought the talent was overwhelming,
they would have drafted them. Okay, So I believe that.
But I believe it was a little more personal with
Dion and the way he exhibited himself in the draft interviews.
I think he got down almost personal. I have never
in all my life. I'm sixty five years old and
(36:41):
I go back to the seventies, I've never seen a
prospect that was right so high drop so low. It's unimaginable.
So I think it just smells fishy to me. It
still does. I don't think the talent was ever there
that people thought, but I mean, there's no way in
the world it's God sows a drop between the second
and third round based on all the draft on this now,
(37:02):
everybody's wrong. I just don't get it. And I think
there's more to the story now as far as Pop
Pop is on that, not rushmore of coaches. I mean,
Pop did it his way. He wasn't the coaches player,
but players respected him any coach the most. The main
attribute of any coach is leadership, and they followed him.
(37:25):
I saw how Lebron would embrace him and things like that,
and that was the supreme that.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
You know.
Speaker 10 (37:32):
That was a wake up call to me, how he
embraced him in the Olympics and the other international things
and all of that that type of stuff. But Pop,
I mean, and the main thing I respected him most
was his social issues. Pop was not afraid to speak
up and a lot of people are afraid to speak
up today because if they're on the wrong side, then
(37:52):
they're in a line, a landslide of negativity with the
social media. Pop is a man's.
Speaker 12 (37:59):
Man and and.
Speaker 10 (38:02):
I think people, and you know, his health was the
main issue why he retired. I understand that. But he
left a lot on the table because when Beyona's is
going to win the core of them. He's a generational talent.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
He struggled.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Anybuddy, I appreciate your phone call, man, that's good stuff.
I think Mark from Maryland and I could probably sit
here and talk talk all night long. You know, the
thing that stands.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
Out to me is the coaching tree.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
You know, I just you you talk about what he
gave back to the game, and you know, social issues
that he stood up for and things of that nature
that maybe I don't necessarily agreement with, maybe you don't
necessarily agree with. But one thing that I think we
all can agree with is he wasn't a lovey, dovey,
fuzzy players first kind of a guy. It was the
game first. It was the way that you play first. Now, granted,
(38:52):
you got to be playing first, because if you don't
have the Jimmy's and the Joe's, what's the old saying,
then the xes and o's don't matter. I mean, it's
you need the dudes. And it felt like the Spurs
were starting to put that together. Right Stafon Castle looks
like he's gonna be a big deal at Point Guard.
I mean, I guess you could go as far as
(39:14):
saying you almost have a big three developing right with
with Fox and Castle and wimben Yama. And let's not
forget I mean, they do have a lottery pick coming
up in this year's draft. I mean, they've they've got
a pick that's going to be, you know, in the
conversation to end up, you know, in the Cooper Flag
(39:35):
conversation right now.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
So you know, we'll see how it all plays out.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
We'll see how it all plays out for Sacramento personnel wise.
But not having that influence in the locker room on
the sideline is one that is it's just wild to
me to think that Greg Popovich is no longer to
coach the Spurs. It's like something that was not just
a part of kind of like my late childhood, but
(40:00):
my adult life. The dude's been there forever. Great phone call, Mark,
your call's coming up next on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
All right, your calls coming up. I see Eric and
Long Island. I see Poppy has his picks tonight in
San Diego eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight
seven seven nine ninety six six three six nine. I
want to touch on one other thing though, real quick,
as we roll into hour number two of The Plank
Show on Fox Sports Radio with Brion Mark. I'm Chris Plank.
(40:34):
You know, I see here we're talking about our draft
coverage on Fox Sports Radio, and it's been brought to
by ship station. You can call them the Chaos, with
a shipping software that delivers use the code Sports for
a free trial at shipstation dot com. That's shipstation dot
com slash or shipstation dot com use the code sports.
(40:54):
And it reminded me as I was looking over our
plan for hour two of what Mark said, and I
wrote down the note more to the story. I've gone
back and forth on this when it comes to Shador Sanders,
because you know, I think you guys, or at least
I hope you guys know that I really, I mean,
I play on the show. There's a lot of work
(41:16):
that goes into it throughout the week. Bre he puts
a lot of work into it. Mark Mark, Well, I
mean Mark works on it. He puts work into it.
He's a grinder. And I spent a lot of time
listening to other shows.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
I listened to a.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
Lot of podcasts and Todd McShay, whom I love. It's
like he's taking a victory lap because he had the
story about him not going to the Giants, but then
mcshaye also had him still going later in the first
round of the Steelers. You know, these all these pundits
that are telling you, well, you know, we saw that
he was going to drop. Yeah, you saw that he
(41:49):
was not going to go three. But you didn't say
that he was going one hundred and forty four. You know,
you didn't say that he was going to fall all
the way out of the second round. You know, it
was amazing for draft coverage.
Speaker 3 (42:02):
And you know we are we're.
Speaker 2 (42:05):
Talking about Bill Belichick's girlfriend earlier in the program. You
think about thirsty people, I mean ESPN and the NFL
Network were thirsty for someone to take Shador Sanders. Because
I as someone who watches every round and every minute
of the draft, I have never seen that many trips
to the podium during an NFL draft. Friday and Saturday, ever,
(42:26):
I mean definitely Saturday, you know, definitely Saturday. Saturday usually
turns into a talk show with the NFL Network, Daniel
Jeremiah and their crew of insiders. And if it's ESPN,
it's the mel Kiper and Matt Miller talk show, which
again it's fine by me. But they were thirsty, man.
They were always up at the podium. They're always wanting
(42:48):
to see who's gonna take Shador. And I wonder sometimes
if there's really not more to the story except the
dude just interviewed poorly, right, and it just there wasn't
enough talent to overcome that. In what these scouts and
these gms and these coaches were seeing, I don't know
(43:09):
how there has to be more to the story. So
I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you at all. Mark, I'm
just your thought process has been mine. It's like, why,
you know, even the people that are like, hey, I
told you it was gonna drop, You're like, well, yeah,
you said he was gonna drop to twenty one, not
to the fifth round. Well, he interviewed poorly. Well, a
lot of people interviewed poorly, but they still get taken
(43:31):
in the first round. I mean, we act like all
thirty two picks in the first round had these sterling
interviews with teams. I know it's a tired story. I
know we've been talking about it for the better part
of two weeks now, but it's still the most fascinating
thing to come out of the NFL. And I guess
my other part in this, my other point in this,
why did we start like clutching our pearls over the
(43:55):
phone call? Is it because there was a video attached
to it? Is it because he fell so far? Because
this happens every single year, Like this is not anything new.
Speaker 3 (44:07):
And I don't know, it's wild to me how some.
Speaker 2 (44:11):
Story becomes viral or talked about that really isn't anything new.
I think this had the angle to it where the
kids were dumb enough to videotape themselves and I got
to I just can't help it laugh. And Jeff Olbrich's
son wasn't even the dude that made the call. I mean,
the guy that made the call is like skating around
(44:32):
Scott free. Oh well, yeah, he gave me the number,
he told me to do it. So it's just wild
to me how that becomes the story. And you got
a six figure of payday when that Olbrich has, he
got people calling for his freaking job, when it's something
that happens every single year and happened to multiple players
this year, and it wasn't all from the same person.
(44:54):
But yet I just that becomes the story outside of
anything else.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
That happened on draft day.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
Mark, I'm with you, though, it's it's it's a it's
a weird situation that's played out and now we'll see
if he's able to compete for the starting job in Cleveland.
What a weird quarterback room. Dylan Gabriel Kenny Pickett, Shador Sanders,
Deshaun Watson, and Joe Flacca. Hey, Bree, you think Deshaun
Watson's ever going to take another snap in the Browns Jersey?
(45:25):
I say no, I say no, all right? Eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine ninety
six six three sixth night. Eric in Long Island is
going to kick us off this hour on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (45:37):
What's going on?
Speaker 13 (45:37):
He?
Speaker 3 (45:37):
How are you? Man?
Speaker 10 (45:39):
Hey?
Speaker 13 (45:39):
Good?
Speaker 10 (45:39):
How's it gone?
Speaker 3 (45:40):
Outstanding?
Speaker 10 (45:42):
That's good?
Speaker 2 (45:42):
All right?
Speaker 13 (45:43):
It's worse about the Knicks.
Speaker 10 (45:45):
They're playing good ball. They finished out the.
Speaker 13 (45:47):
Pistons, and I think I think they could beat Boston
in Game one, And if they beat Boston game one,
they're probably winning in six. Now, you just have two
riddles for you, okay, all right? What does the Jets
stand for?
Speaker 3 (46:06):
The Jets? Okay? J Ets?
Speaker 2 (46:08):
No?
Speaker 3 (46:08):
You got me? What is it?
Speaker 13 (46:11):
This end of the season?
Speaker 2 (46:14):
Well, it hasn't even started yet. Don't you want to
at least give them a chance?
Speaker 13 (46:16):
Here? No, I can't stand him. I can't stand Rogers either.
And I got another one for you.
Speaker 2 (46:23):
Okay, what is it?
Speaker 13 (46:24):
What does the Mets stand for? In previous years? Not
this year?
Speaker 2 (46:29):
But must end the season.
Speaker 13 (46:33):
You got it, bro, look at me.
Speaker 3 (46:35):
Hey, I figure this thing out. Thanks thanks to caller.
Mets are good. Mets are good this year.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
Uh circle back to the Celtics Knicks most fascinating second
round series for now, I think Clippers Thunder becomes interesting,
but I'm feel pretty confident OKAC is going to be
able to have their way with either one of those
teams that survives that series. Boston, on the other hand,
is a little up. You know, what are we looking
(47:02):
at injury wise for Boston when you know New York
it's it's here's my question, bri what kind of series
makes you battle tested while the opposite of that takes
place where a series makes you tired and wore out, Like,
(47:24):
for instance, I don't know if the Clippers Nugget series,
someone's gonna air battle tested unless you know, you get
like a Sun's Mavericks kind of a game. Not to
bring up bad memories where someone wins by fifty, but like,
what's the difference between a series that gets a team
ready for the rest of the playoffs and what's the
difference in the other side of that a series that
(47:44):
just war them out and took everything out of them,
because that's where I'm torn right now on.
Speaker 3 (47:49):
The Pistons series with the Knicks.
Speaker 2 (47:52):
Was that a series that, oh my gosh, that kind
of galvanized New York and brought them all together or
was that a series that sucked everything out of them?
Be And I know that they ended up winning, you know,
without having to play a game seven, but still it's like, boy,
it really took everything in the tank to beat them,
and they still found a way. Like that's where my
(48:14):
question is with New York right now, because if you
want to say it's battle testing, he gotten better. I
think the Celtics might be right for the taken right here.
Speaker 4 (48:22):
And I think also, I mean, just like that compatibility
of the guys playing together on the Knicks and compared
to the Celtics, even though I mean they've been dinged
up all season. Sure, I mean, how how many games
was Drew Holiday out? How many games was Derek whiteout? Porzingis?
I mean, everybody's just kind of been hurt and they've
always kind of melded together and gotten you know, back
(48:46):
on track. I think the series that's definitely I don't
think they're like like they're super drained or like you know,
I think the Clippers and Nuggets, I actually feel opposite.
I think that's going to be a little bit more
battle tested because I think that's a James Harden factor
and if James Harden's consistent and Zubots and everything, I
(49:06):
think that that that series, if they do win tomorrow,
I think that'll be interesting to.
Speaker 2 (49:13):
I think if as now you know someone who's going
to beat the drum for the thunder the rest of
this post season, I think Okayse would much rather see
Denver as opposed to the Clippers right now. I you
know lou Dort and you know wherever you would put him,
if you put him on James Harden, if you put
him on Kawhi Leonard, I think that, you know, one
(49:34):
of those guys is still going to be able to
get points. Alex Cruse, so I guess could be the
dude that covers the other one. But I don't. I
kind of worry about like as Zubac and the success
he could have inside against okay see who. By the way,
this is your constant reminder that the Lakers traded him
for some rando. I mean they had they had him
(49:58):
in the Lakers shout out magic, John. Oh my gosh, magic,
was that a magic move? Oh my gosh, it move. Anyway,
My point is it's just I don't know.
Speaker 3 (50:09):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
If Oklahoma City would sweep the Clippers, I think they'd
have to beat him in like six I think they
could force a sixth game.
Speaker 3 (50:16):
I think they'd sweep the Nuggets.
Speaker 2 (50:19):
But so you think that could be a series where
instead of draining both teams and make them a little
bit more battle tested. Okay, It's just you don't know,
and the unfortunate thing is you won't really know until
that next series.
Speaker 3 (50:31):
Anyway.
Speaker 2 (50:32):
Oh, look at this, Look at this. It's a plank
show on Fox Sports Radio. It is time for poppies picks.
Poppy out in San Diego. What's going on?
Speaker 3 (50:41):
Man? How are you?
Speaker 2 (50:43):
Hey?
Speaker 13 (50:43):
Thanks?
Speaker 14 (50:44):
I'm doing good.
Speaker 2 (50:45):
You I'm good.
Speaker 3 (50:47):
I'm good.
Speaker 2 (50:47):
I'm in Florida, so it's hot, but I'm gonna try
to stop sweating for a while.
Speaker 13 (50:52):
Well, well, that's good.
Speaker 9 (50:53):
Been plenty of water and you'll be good.
Speaker 14 (50:56):
And I hope you have a great day to day.
And I want to give you guys a pick tomorrow
a big day or today. It's a Kentucky Derby. And
you know, I hear a lot of people picking the
think I'm not a big horse guy, but I'm gonna
give you I'm gonna start off with my cakes right there,
and I'm gonna go with the thirty to one on.
We're gonna go with the horse winning the race number
five American promise. I really love that horse. And there's
(51:18):
something about, you know, American promise. So remember that name.
That horse is gonna win thirty to one off and
then tomorrow another play for you guys. I'm really loving
a UFC fight night. There's a fighter bow Nickel. He's
really undefeated, and he's really good. He's good on the down, game,
good and everything, and he's looking really sharp. And the
(51:38):
line is minus two fifty right now. I think that's
a bargain. Take that and run with it.
Speaker 9 (51:45):
And another fight.
Speaker 14 (51:46):
We're gonna go say the best for last. There's a
big boxing fight and that's been study Arabia and it's
you know, Canelo Albaretz against Williams Call. And you know,
I really like Canelo. He hasn't one. He's one on
Spotify Decision. But what I'm saying is he hasn't won
by a knockout, and I think the best to get
on that when Canelo Overrea is one in Cel over
(52:08):
it by a knockout. Minus two Biffy and Solder and
my picks for today? What are you thinking? Blank?
Speaker 2 (52:14):
Okay, I appreciate it. I appreciate the phone call. I
I gotta be honest with you. I absolutely positively love
horse racing. I love it. I love going to Otb's
and I love going to tracks. I love I love
(52:36):
playing the ponies. I could not be more disconnected from
the Kentucky Derby this year. I think it's you know,
maybe the infatuation with the draft has had something to
do with it. And you know, my guy, Toby Keith
may he rest in peace, has a horse that he
owned that it's actually running in the Derby. And that's
(52:57):
just awesome, you know, because that had been one of
his kind of lifelong goals and dreams and now unfortunately
it happens after we've lost him. But for some reason
beyond that story, I mean, you're you're talking about who
do you say, American dreams? Is the horse is going
off at thirty to one right now? I'm sorry, American promise.
(53:22):
That's going off at thirty to one. I don't even
know if I could sit here and tell you enough
about American Promise right now poppy to see or say
if I feel like, hey, look out, he's got a
chance to get it done. He's got a chance because
I've just I'm out on it, and that makes me
feel terrible because I love this bree. I want to
(53:47):
go to the Kentucky Derby. I want to go to
the Belmont. I want to go to the Preakness. I
love horse racing. I'm just out this year. I guess
there's no outside of rendered judgment, which is Tk's horse
that's going off as well at thirty to one.
Speaker 3 (54:03):
I don't really have much this year.
Speaker 4 (54:05):
Do you got was American Pharaoh? Was he like a
favorite before he won? Or he was like an underdog?
Speaker 3 (54:13):
I believe American Pharaoh was an underdog? Whatever?
Speaker 4 (54:15):
Okay, yeah, I don't. I don't think there's any kind
of buzz about any horse. Did Jim real more horse
as a horse.
Speaker 2 (54:23):
I know, I don't know. Like I said, you're asking
me all these questions that I don't know. I have
no quoe clue. But see the twenty twenty fifteen was
when American.
Speaker 4 (54:38):
Okay, wow, okay, well that was the last time I
was involved in I liked him.
Speaker 2 (54:43):
Are you here to bail the show out on Kentucky
Derby talk?
Speaker 15 (54:48):
I mean, my great memory is secretary. That's how far
bag I go.
Speaker 3 (54:52):
Now, Like I said, I love it.
Speaker 2 (54:53):
I mean, if you want to talk about the first
race at I don't know the oaks. I'm here with you.
But for some reason, just the Kentucky Derby hasn't been
hasn't been a major story to me this year, man,
and I hate it. I will say, the weather's going
to play a major factor. It looks like tomorrow it
(55:16):
has been. It's been a mess in uh. I guess
you would say that the Midwest down into the South
over the last you know, twenty four to forty eight
to seventy two hours. I mean I have.
Speaker 15 (55:28):
Them a whole segment to talk about the weather and
the yeah, exactly, So they can have that whole segment
about the weather.
Speaker 3 (55:34):
Oh you know they will.
Speaker 5 (55:35):
We can have graphics and then the whole.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
Well here's what it looks like whenever this.
Speaker 15 (55:39):
Happened, lair, whatever doppler they use in it's a whole
segment about the weather.
Speaker 2 (55:43):
I basically just waits in a majority of this segment,
not even taking into account that Poppy had an upset pick.
I'm too busy telling you how I'm not in on
the Kentucky Derby. I'm sorry. Good luck, Poppy. I hope
your horse wins. All right, let's go back to the
phones here really quick. Put a wrap on our first
segment of hour two. Oh, Gunner, Gunner, you called this man,
(56:06):
You called your Minnesota Timberwolves.
Speaker 3 (56:08):
What's going on, buddy?
Speaker 14 (56:10):
Oh yeah, I told you.
Speaker 10 (56:12):
I told you, and like you told I was calling
it from the beginning.
Speaker 3 (56:16):
You called it.
Speaker 10 (56:16):
It was done.
Speaker 11 (56:18):
It's like it's no doubt or he will be all happy,
and it's like, well suddenly came home.
Speaker 12 (56:24):
He can go.
Speaker 11 (56:26):
He retired, No way, no wady, he misses here in Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (56:31):
He let me pose this to you, Gunner, as as
somebody who's watched all the Minnesota Timberwolves of this.
Speaker 3 (56:37):
Season, Why did they wait so long to start getting good?
Speaker 2 (56:40):
Why did they wait until down the stretch to kind
of turn turn things on?
Speaker 10 (56:46):
I think it was so jealous.
Speaker 9 (56:48):
I was getting getting him in the shooting up and.
Speaker 7 (56:54):
Going these Joe now, Rudy Gobert's coming him back to
itself and the.
Speaker 9 (57:02):
Year last sharing and I've seen right now it's I'm
like waiting for.
Speaker 3 (57:10):
Oh, we almost got through the call.
Speaker 7 (57:13):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (57:13):
I mean with fighting and scratching and Klawn battling the
cell service. Oh so close. You know. The last thing
I'm gonna do on my final show here on the Overnight,
I'm gonna somehow get Gunner a new phone. I don't
know how, Gunner, but I'm gonna get your new phone.
Speaker 3 (57:30):
I think part of the problem.
Speaker 2 (57:32):
From Minnesota was, you know, just injuries. Everyone battled through
some things. Rudy Gobert had to get back to one
hundred percent. Randall was injured at one point this year,
and you do need time to gel. And I think
it also helped them quite a bit that you went
up against a team that has absolutely positively zero true
inside presence. You know. I think that I'm one of
(57:53):
those people that, as much as I love the Lakers,
I pushed back on the news cycle constantly being committed
to Lakers. This Lakers, that Lebron, this Lebron, that JJ Reddick,
this JJ Reddick, that like, I'm trying not to necessarily
fall for the low hanging fruit, because I do think
there's good stories in the NBA playoffs right now, but
(58:16):
the old saying is played hits, and the reason that
the Royal we and everybody talks about it is because
you people apparently want to hear it. And I'm not
somebody that's sitting back and pointing a finger at JJ Reddick.
I mean, I thought Rob Plinka brought up a really
wild analogy this week when he said it's trying to
(58:36):
build a plane while it's flying, which scared the hell
out of me as a paranoid flyer. But it's you know,
I I don't get the conversations that people will say, well,
I don't know if his game is going to fit
with this guy's game, and I think there was, you know,
as soon as the Luca trade happened, a couple of
(58:56):
the bloviating NBA insider, I don't know if if Luke
and Lebron's game will mash. And I'm like, they're two
great players, Yes they'll mesh. You know, you find a way.
It's not like they're it's not like they're you know,
the Twin Towers and it's Ralph Sampson and a Keem Olaijauan.
You know they'll they'll find a way to play together.
I just I don't know how the Lakers are going
(59:19):
to go about getting better when they don't even know
what their short term future looks like because.
Speaker 3 (59:27):
Of it a city.
Speaker 2 (59:27):
I think Lebron's gonna play next year in LA, and
I'm pretty sure they're gonna be able, hey, better be
able to keep Luca around. I mean, what kind of
coup would that be for someone if they were able
to get him out of LA after just this part
of the season.
Speaker 3 (59:42):
And they love him.
Speaker 2 (59:43):
I mean, I really think even though the Lakers got eliminated,
Luke got dinged up.
Speaker 3 (59:47):
I think LA has fallen for Luke in a good way.
Speaker 2 (59:51):
But yeah, I did JJ Reddick make a horrendous mistake
in not playing anyone in the second half off the
bench in game? What would that before?
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
Yeah? Yeah he did.
Speaker 2 (01:00:03):
Does JJ Raddick get a little bit too hot? Does
he run a little hot sometimes? Yeah? He's also a
rookie head coach. He's also and I know that rookie
head coaches probably shouldn't be cutting their teeth with a
Lakers job and coaching Lebron and Luca, But it's what
you got, and he's gonna learn and I think he's
gonna be better for it. Yeah, he's gonna take his shots,
and he probably deserves him. But I'm not I'm not
(01:00:26):
one to sit here and just doom.
Speaker 3 (01:00:27):
The Lakers from here on out.
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
And then also in that, I just I think there's
other stories in the NBA in the series coming up
that are well worth our time, like talking about gunners
Minnesota Timberwolves.
Speaker 3 (01:00:39):
Talking about if they've got a chance to make a run.
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
In fact, we'll do that next. It's a Plank Show
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (01:00:45):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to

Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
Rockets force a game seven and against the Warriors, winning
had one fifteen one oh seven tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
Greg Popovich retired earlier today.
Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
I think it's fair to say maybe the Greg Popovich
stuff not a surprise. Are you surprised we've got a
game seven this Rockets Warrior series?
Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
Do you see Houston rallying in this?
Speaker 4 (01:01:15):
Because I shared it, I thought it was interesting. Was
it game five when when they got blown out that
Steve Kerr decided to like rest everybody and that he
had predicted it kind of. He had talked about it
in pregame like, oh, well, if things go wrong, I'm
just gonna pull everybody out. And it's like, well, I
don't know, like I don't know what the mentality is
(01:01:36):
now of that team. I understand like that we've been here,
we know how to do this. Were our backs are
against the wall, but we know how to get out.
But at the same time, it's like, well, we're just
gonna kind of take it easy. Also, I don't know.
That kind of bugs me a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:01:50):
Yeah, I don't like that.
Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
I like that. I think that you know, it's even
if you are older now, if you want to rest
Steph because of the thumb, is I get that?
Speaker 4 (01:02:00):
Did you see the picture of the thought?
Speaker 3 (01:02:02):
Yes, oh yes I did. Was that and there was
no enhancement on that? Right, There wasn't any ai.
Speaker 4 (01:02:07):
Right, that was gnarly.
Speaker 2 (01:02:10):
You have two guys who are really kind of well,
first of all, if Steph isn't one, which it doesn't
appear like he is, this is why you.
Speaker 3 (01:02:21):
Have Jimmy Butler.
Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
This is it. And it's also why you have a
guy like Buddy Healed who is struggling. He's two for
ten from behind the three point line. He's two for
ten from the field in the last two games, zero
for six from behind the three point line. In the
last two games games three and four, he was eight
for twenty at thirty two combined points. You're not getting
(01:02:44):
that from Buddy right now. Meanwhile, on the other side,
Fred van Vliet is like circa I don't know, five
years ago.
Speaker 3 (01:02:51):
Fred van Vliet, remember when he was a scrappy Oh
of that guy.
Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
Ah drafted right, look out with the Raptors which Dow State.
Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
Dude, he's got to prove something.
Speaker 4 (01:03:00):
Baker Wichita State.
Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Oh gosh. Twenty nine points, eight boards, eight assists. Steven
Adams had his first double digit game tonight since March
twenty third, only a sixth of the year. We got
a game seven, so I've talked about that. Got the
start of the second round tomorrow. I guess I'm sorry
now later today, if you're well, I guess everyone now
(01:03:22):
is on Saturday. As hold on, I'm in the Eastern
times on this to yeah, we're past midnight in the
Western time zone. Pacers and Calvs have Game one coming up.
I say tomorrow Sunday, Saturday. Tonight's Game seven for the
Clippers and the Nuggets. And you think you disagree with me.
I think this is a series where two teams have
beaten each other up and they're taking it out of
(01:03:45):
each other. You think, whoever wins this could be galvanizing.
I do.
Speaker 4 (01:03:48):
I think it's they are battle tested. And also I
just think the Clippers they just have a whole new
outlook on everything. I think they've they've been kind of
adjusting the lineups, you know, kind of pulling out done
and putting and patum, which has been huge for them defensively.
And I just think they've just been there kind of
just putting these little pieces together and knock on wood,
(01:04:08):
KWHI looks good.
Speaker 3 (01:04:10):
He looks good, So yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:04:13):
He has. But also I just it just feels it
just feels different. I don't know what kind of cool
aid I'm drinking here in LA because I'm not a
Clippers fan. I honestly I don't care. But there's just something,
there's something that's different about this team where I'm rooting
for them, and I think they've got something. There's there's
some kind of spark there.
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
By the way, a couple of good I have not
done a good job of keeping up on Twitter tonight.
And nature boys absolutely on fire Eddie He' writes Gunna
was about to say Rudy Gobert is the second coming
of Hakeem abdul Elijah one. Also, what did you think
of ant Man taking laps around Crypto after his victory
(01:04:55):
and yelling Lakers in five to the crowd. I mean,
every every great rock star, good guy, great story needs
needs the villain, right, everyone does. And the Laker has
got a villain now. And Anthony Edwards and I'll tell
(01:05:15):
you what, He's incredibly likable. I don't know how anyone
Lakers fans don't like shouldn't like him because he just
beats in five. But Aunt Edwards is is fun. I
think they're gonna play in the Western Conference finals. I
think they're gonna play in the Western Conference finals. Also,
nature Boy asked her, you think JJ will be back
with the Lakers next year if Lebron calls it quits.
(01:05:35):
I think JJ's back next year, regardless. I think JJ's
back next year, regardless. And then one more before we
get back to the phones, Darryl checkson. He writes, I
think the Bill Belichick and his girlfriend thing is hysterical,
happy wife, happy life. And I know they're not married,
but if she were an age everyone was comfortable with
(01:05:59):
there be any outrage because admittedly men do what their
women want.
Speaker 3 (01:06:06):
Age is only a number.
Speaker 2 (01:06:08):
Well, I mean, my family still doesn't know I'm doing
the show, so I mean, Daryl, there's that. Yeah. Yeah,
I used to think that my opinion mattered. I've been
divorced once, so I'm kind of like that if I
were if I were Bill Belichick. Now, my wife is
(01:06:29):
only six years younger than me. What's their age gap?
Do you know?
Speaker 3 (01:06:33):
Off the top of your head?
Speaker 2 (01:06:34):
Isn't it like thirty years between the two of them?
Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
Thirty thirty?
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
I mean, I.
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
Can't even imagine dating a twenty year old round I'm fifty.
I could not even imagine dating a twenty year old.
Couldn't even fathom it right now. But yeah, whatever, But
I know this much as someone who does basically whatever
their wife tells them to do. Yeah, I probably have
some moments where my to be like, yeah, you're not
You're not. Can I see it for a second, we're
(01:07:04):
not talking about that. I'm sure I would be guilty
of that too, Darryl. But this is just this is weird.
This is weird. I'm happy for Bill Belichick that he
seems happy, but I also feel like every now and
then I'm like, hey, will you blink twice if you're okay?
Speaker 4 (01:07:21):
Forty nine years I was wrong? What it's forty nine
years unbelievable. Yeah, that's wild. That's a whole human And.
Speaker 2 (01:07:30):
You told me she used to date like another sixty.
Speaker 4 (01:07:33):
Year old, sixty three year old, so that was also
something that was like forty something years old, which I mean,
everybody's entitled to like, you know, you like what you like.
But that's just creepy.
Speaker 2 (01:07:43):
That is all right, Let's let's get to the phones.
I see Mike the leprech Khan is jumping in from Boston.
It's been a minute since I've heard from Mike. What's
going on, Mike the lepre Kahn, How are you on
this Friday night into a Saturday morning up here?
Speaker 10 (01:08:00):
Yes, anyway, I have a few.
Speaker 13 (01:08:03):
Things to talk about.
Speaker 16 (01:08:03):
As always, it is forty nine years old.
Speaker 13 (01:08:07):
But baby, there's a new doll out here.
Speaker 10 (01:08:09):
You could buy it.
Speaker 17 (01:08:09):
In the in Cape car where her mom owns the
nineteen sex antique shows.
Speaker 2 (01:08:14):
Did you know that museum sex Sex Toy Museum.
Speaker 10 (01:08:20):
Sexs Toy Museum.
Speaker 2 (01:08:21):
Yep.
Speaker 17 (01:08:23):
Anyway, So there's that new bobble head out. It's the
babblehead Bill Belichick bobblehead and it was designed by Jordan
Joe Dan, I believe anyway. So that's that's just trivia.
And how's your kool aid this morning?
Speaker 4 (01:08:39):
It was a great flavor. Thanks.
Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
Did you have kool aid this morning?
Speaker 10 (01:08:42):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:08:42):
No, because I was drinking the the Clippers kool aid.
Speaker 2 (01:08:46):
Oh I see, sorry, my bad slow one.
Speaker 4 (01:08:50):
I love kool aid though.
Speaker 16 (01:08:53):
I was up early to do my ukile practice for
the mat of Polozo.
Speaker 2 (01:08:57):
How's it going? You got a riff? You can play
real quick so I can see how you're doing.
Speaker 16 (01:09:01):
No, no, no, I just caught it because I got
a guitalk.
Speaker 17 (01:09:04):
My two kids and they would let me touch it.
Speaker 16 (01:09:07):
So I had to get a ukulet for ten bucks yesterday.
Speaker 4 (01:09:09):
So wait, Mike, is this for the talent show? Are
you are you? Oh?
Speaker 16 (01:09:16):
I was going the second worst?
Speaker 10 (01:09:17):
Gotcha?
Speaker 17 (01:09:18):
I got minus ten points?
Speaker 16 (01:09:21):
No, no, Ben gave me minus ten.
Speaker 14 (01:09:26):
He started off and I think adi gave me.
Speaker 16 (01:09:30):
Minus four, and Lorraine at the time was where bench
you gave me a zero?
Speaker 10 (01:09:34):
Of course gave me a plus four. I ended up
with a very next score.
Speaker 14 (01:09:37):
It was terrible.
Speaker 17 (01:09:39):
Y alright, the topics, I'm going to cross the Knicks
right obviously say five.
Speaker 10 (01:09:45):
Ah.
Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
You know you gotta remember I work with a stinking
genius every Sunday night, Mike, and he's a big Knicks guy.
He's been selling me on the Knicks now every time
they went, every time they lose, he tells me the
season is over. But I kind of like the way
the Knicks looked in that series against the Pistons.
Speaker 3 (01:10:01):
Are you guys healthy enough?
Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 17 (01:10:04):
So they've had a whole week of rest. By by Monday,
I think is their first game.
Speaker 16 (01:10:08):
Does a guy called Marcel from Brooklyn. He's everyone else
everyone on the Bend malice so hates the out like
Marcella is the wainning champion and he's in Knicks fan too,
But every time he calls in, he refers to Mike, the.
Speaker 17 (01:10:22):
Loser came.
Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
The loser. That's cold. Now, Well, I'm sorry about that.
Is there anything we need to help patch that up
for you?
Speaker 10 (01:10:30):
No, it's it's all.
Speaker 14 (01:10:31):
It's all in good fun.
Speaker 16 (01:10:32):
I know I have a quick joke. But the cats
is another part of my you know, my talent.
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
Okay, but the cat.
Speaker 16 (01:10:38):
But the cat's favorite Mexican food?
Speaker 3 (01:10:42):
What's what's wait?
Speaker 2 (01:10:43):
What's the cat saying as Mexican food?
Speaker 16 (01:10:46):
A cat's favorite.
Speaker 2 (01:10:48):
A cat's favorite Mexican food? Okay, the joke is breathe.
The joke is mark, what is a cat's favorite Mexican food?
Speaker 3 (01:10:56):
And it is.
Speaker 10 (01:10:58):
A purry joe?
Speaker 3 (01:11:02):
Good luck, it's great to hear. You have a great time.
Speaker 4 (01:11:05):
Man Perito.
Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
He's doomed, isn't he. He's doomed.
Speaker 4 (01:11:10):
I'm not gonna put my money on him.
Speaker 5 (01:11:12):
I love it, so I guess.
Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
I'm a little bit late. I don't remember the Ben
Mallard Talent Show. Is this new I.
Speaker 4 (01:11:19):
They call it? Yeah, it's it's yeah, everybody they like.
Some person will tell jokes, some people write songs, okay,
and then people perform their talent. And but it's different
than the Benny's because they don't want a Benny.
Speaker 3 (01:11:35):
Right, that's right?
Speaker 4 (01:11:36):
Yeah, okay, it's news. Well, yeah, it's something separate.
Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
Good luck, Mike the Leprechaun. I think maybe the Perito
joke is one that might need a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:11:48):
Of work shopping.
Speaker 2 (01:11:49):
See, I told you this show has really become like
the American Idol or America's Got Talent or the Star
Search for the Ben Maller Show. We're like the warm
up not the warm up act. But you know, people
come here to try a few takes as. I can't
think that worked on the weekend. I'll try that on men's.
Speaker 4 (01:12:08):
Show with the Triple Eighth Show.
Speaker 5 (01:12:10):
Yeah, there you go, we're turning in the open mic night.
Speaker 3 (01:12:13):
Yeah, this show was just turning into open mic night
for Mike.
Speaker 2 (01:12:17):
I mean I kept waiting for him to try to
actually tuna turn a tune out there. Oh here you
I'll try my ukulele out All right, Let's get Connie
from South Dakota in here. Then we'll grab a break. Connie,
what's going on? Welcome to Fox Sports Radio. How are you?
Speaker 3 (01:12:32):
Connie?
Speaker 10 (01:12:33):
Oh?
Speaker 12 (01:12:34):
Not too bad. I'm not cracking up over Bill and
Jordan's It sounds to me like George a matured.
Speaker 2 (01:12:43):
Okay, So where have you seen Jordan get a little
bit carried away?
Speaker 3 (01:12:47):
Here? Connie?
Speaker 2 (01:12:48):
What's going on? Help me get smart about this?
Speaker 16 (01:12:50):
Well?
Speaker 12 (01:12:52):
In fact, that I'm totally blind. Oh, I'm just listened
to the TV end of the radio. Let's know, all
the guys talking on reggae about her. It's sounds me
like she may carry around a rip and the prair handcuffs.
So we got the best pearl Bill.
Speaker 2 (01:13:13):
I'll tell you what, I think, it's weird when we
see it may be weird.
Speaker 3 (01:13:19):
It's not the word just different.
Speaker 2 (01:13:21):
When you see someone that is so straight laced and
so much like Belichick is, and then all of a
sudden they've almost become it's a termed like what's subservent,
where they've almost become like the secondary character in a
relationship where they're.
Speaker 3 (01:13:37):
Not the dominant force. It's just weird to see, Connie.
Speaker 2 (01:13:43):
Is that odd for me to tell a blind person
that it's weird to see whenever they can't see. Does
that make things uncomfortable at all? Bree or is that accepted?
I think that's accepted.
Speaker 5 (01:13:52):
It just comes out. It's just regular talk. People understand.
Speaker 3 (01:13:56):
Thanks, Connie. I appreciate the phone call.
Speaker 2 (01:13:59):
I mean it is if you think about it, of
all the people in the world, to be in a
relationship where someone else is calling the shots.
Speaker 3 (01:14:11):
Like Bill Belichick is near the top of that list.
Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
The dude that was done with you if you got
a little bit too old and you got a little
bit too deep in the contract, you know the financials
of it.
Speaker 3 (01:14:22):
So I have time to move on from that guy.
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
They never even really truly had I think personal relationships
that went too terribly deep with his guys. And now
he's just in the fog and can't get away and
is being told what to do constantly by someone else.
Speaker 3 (01:14:40):
It's weird, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
We got to break It's a plank show on a
Saturday morning. Now when we come back, I do want
to I don't want to dive into the very odd
push that's going on over at Pro Football Talk that
I just don't get.
Speaker 3 (01:14:58):
It's next on five sports rate.
Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
Did you tell me that Arnie's already bothering you about
the show that's coming up next in an hour and
ten minutes from now schedule?
Speaker 3 (01:15:09):
No, he's not. That's how he always is.
Speaker 5 (01:15:11):
I get it.
Speaker 2 (01:15:12):
He'll send me a text at our show's at ten
o'clock Central time every Sunday night. Now. I love ten
to one a Central time, God's time zone. Arnie and
plant on Fox Sports Radio and I'll get a text
at like nine are you ready?
Speaker 3 (01:15:26):
Like, no, it's nine o'clock. I got an hour to chill.
Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
Call him down, boy, I Schwartz might fight him through
the radio today. I just there's certain things that I
feel pretty confident about, and that's one of them. There
is going to be fireworks coming up on the Fellas
this morning on Fox Sports Radio. I guess to fill
in for ant in fits. It takes like an army. Well,
(01:15:51):
you got like twelve people coming up those that show.
Speaker 4 (01:15:53):
Come on, Arnie three.
Speaker 2 (01:15:54):
Geeze man, let's go all right? I want to did
it hold on before I get to this, I didn't.
I didn't want to make Doug in South San Diego
wait too long? Is Doug's still there? Because I wanted
to fit at least one more call this hour before
we dive into a little bit more on the NFL
stuff and the pro football talk thing that's got me
(01:16:15):
so triggered. What's going on? Doug?
Speaker 3 (01:16:16):
Welcome to Fox Sports Radio, My guy, my.
Speaker 18 (01:16:19):
Guy, You're huge, okay, and love your show, Thank you.
I just wanted to really talk about the Lakers. It's
so pathetic what happened to them.
Speaker 2 (01:16:29):
They went from that.
Speaker 18 (01:16:30):
Old penhouse to the outhouse in such a short time
and all the hype and whatnot. They're the biggest losers in.
Speaker 9 (01:16:39):
The NBA this year.
Speaker 18 (01:16:40):
And I don't care what you say.
Speaker 3 (01:16:41):
I'm not gonna fight you right now. I'm not gonna
fight you, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:16:44):
And here's the thing, here's the thing that the same
problems they had all year long are the problems that
kind of emerged late in the season. Now again, Anthony
Davis was a much better defender than anything they had
on the court, but just their inability to make shots
in big moments is what kurt him all season long.
Speaker 3 (01:17:01):
And they couldn't do it against the te Wolves.
Speaker 18 (01:17:04):
You know what, what about the Okay, the Bucks are
gonna get rid of their big guy? What about if
the Lakers got him somehow?
Speaker 3 (01:17:11):
That would really.
Speaker 9 (01:17:11):
Perhaps be a great piece for that puzzle.
Speaker 18 (01:17:15):
And uh, just the odd to that happening are so
far fetched. But who thought Luke could ever go to
the Lakers?
Speaker 13 (01:17:24):
Why not this guy?
Speaker 3 (01:17:25):
Are you thinking about? Wait? Wait home, when you say
a big guy, you're talking about Brook Lopez? Are you talking?
Speaker 9 (01:17:30):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:17:32):
Okay, listen, let's we need to have a gy honest
conversation man, and not not you and me, but I
appreciate the phone call.
Speaker 3 (01:17:38):
Thanks for the con words, buddy, Doug, have a good morning.
Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
I just don't know how things can go so south
so quick in Milwaukee. Yannis that that franchise has pretty
much done just about everything they can to build around him,
and it just hasn't worked.
Speaker 3 (01:18:01):
Whenever.
Speaker 2 (01:18:02):
Whenever they needed to make a big move to get better,
or at least in what they view it as getting better.
They swung one of the biggest trades to bring Kuzma
to Milwaukee and it didn't And it didn't work. When
they had an opportunity to get another elite scorer to
(01:18:23):
put along side Yannis, what do they do. They go
and they get Damian Lillard, you know, one of the
best players in the NBA at the time. What happens.
He gets hurt. I honestly think there's really only one team,
And Doug, I'm glad you brought this up, because when
you think about draft capital and the amount of picks
(01:18:44):
that you probably need to get, you, honest I really
feel like there's only one team that can do that, and.
Speaker 3 (01:18:51):
That's the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (01:18:53):
Because I'm sorry, he's not going to be the Lakers
because you're not going to trade Austin Reeves. I mean,
are gonna be like Okay, I mean they're not gonna
be like Nico here with Luca. The only thing that
can do it is the Thunder, with the Thunder future picks,
and I don't know if that's something that you know,
Sam Presty would want to do, or that Oklahoma City
even needs to do. Like they they've got a decision
(01:19:16):
to make on are they gonna commit to chet Holmgren.
You know, are they gonna they're gonna give him a
big time contract extension. You know, they got some decisions
to make on the future of guys like Ludort and
Case and Wallace. But right now, I mean, I don't
know why you would go out and feel the necessity
to make that move. So don't get me wrong, I
think everyone would want Yannis. But when you're looking at
(01:19:36):
like draft capital, because if you trade Gianness, you're hitting
a franchise reset. You're gonna have to move on from
Damian Liller to who his value is very much diminished
whenever it comes to what he can do for you
in a trademarket or in any kind of acquisition world
because he's coming off now a ruptured Achilles. Like I,
(01:19:57):
I feel like Milwaukee's pretty stuck. So they got a
find a way to make it work with the honest
because I just don't think they're gonna get return on
the investment that they truly want.
Speaker 3 (01:20:05):
It's Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:20:08):
Listen, Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:20:11):
Right final hour for us as we're it come to
you live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. That's Bri
and Mark from our Los Angeles studios. I am in
the Eastern time zone. This time zone sucks, but might
be the best time zone for the actual time slot.
I don't know, though, That's that's the question. You know,
(01:20:33):
two to five am Eastern time is kind of odd,
but at the very least there's people that logically might
be getting up at like four thirty four forty five
in the morning. Brie, I still think though this shows
a time slot is most effective on the West coast,
right eleven P.
Speaker 3 (01:20:54):
Is that right.
Speaker 4 (01:20:57):
Two am?
Speaker 2 (01:20:59):
It's probably the best probably where it's most effective. But regardless,
we got a lot of sports to talk to around
the globe. A couple of quick notes before we get
going here. If you want to jump into the final hour,
it's packed. But eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox
eight seven seven nine ninety six, six three sixty nine,
you want to jump on the Twitter machine, tis very
(01:21:21):
easy to do so at Plank Show at Fox Sports
Radio at breedon each twenty six.
Speaker 3 (01:21:27):
And I would like to.
Speaker 2 (01:21:28):
Apologize because earlier whenever Mike the leper Cohn checked in
and was what getting ready for the what he called
the Mallor Talent Show, the correct the proper nomenclature is
the Mallor Palooza, the Mallard Palooza. Do you remember the joke?
(01:21:49):
What was it? Perito was the punchline.
Speaker 4 (01:21:51):
What is a cat's favorite Mexican food?
Speaker 2 (01:21:55):
Yeah, it is per Perritoerto Perrito. I think I think
we need to fine tune that one a little bit, Mike.
But the stand up routine is off to a start.
Greg Popovich retired tonight. I've been wanting to talk about
what Rob Parker had to say about it because I
look at Greg Popovich and this would have been something
(01:22:17):
that I never even thought of. I look at Greg
Popovic and I think about his run, and I think
about doing things his way. I think about five championships
I think about winning in a small market where people
wondered if you could ever win a title in a
smaller market. Now Spurs did it, Bucks did it, Oklahoma
City's probably gonna do it this year. So you have
(01:22:37):
small markets and Pops some major reason why you see
them be successful. He also, really, I think, opened the
door for the foreign influence on the game to become
a little bit more omnipresent than it truly is. But
Rob brought something up on the Odd Couple earlier tonight,
and I guess this would now be last night, excuse me,
(01:23:00):
and it's resonated with me. It's had me feeling some
sort of way because well, honestly, I hadn't even thought
about it.
Speaker 19 (01:23:08):
I'm not being mean when I think of Pop.
Speaker 3 (01:23:11):
I'm gonna be honest.
Speaker 7 (01:23:12):
I think about the most influential thing that Pop did
was negative towards the NBA and hurt fans, and that
is load management. And the worst part about Pop doing
that load management is it worked. He rested players and
(01:23:36):
they kept winning, so other people, Look, this wasn't where
this guy's a genius.
Speaker 2 (01:23:41):
Look at what he did.
Speaker 19 (01:23:43):
He revolutionized the game, right, everybody.
Speaker 3 (01:23:46):
Followed his lead.
Speaker 2 (01:23:49):
It was one of the.
Speaker 19 (01:23:50):
Worst things that's ever happened to the NBA. It made
people question whether or not they wanted to buy tickets,
whether or not we could believe that if we go
there to the ballpark on the stadium, that we know
guys are playing, and he's the author of it.
Speaker 3 (01:24:07):
That's what I think about.
Speaker 19 (01:24:09):
And the other bad part was the way he handle
Kawhi Leonard, one of the all time greades, didn't buy
into Kawhi being heard, Like seriously, Kawhi lost faith.
Speaker 3 (01:24:21):
In Pop and that.
Speaker 7 (01:24:22):
Medical staff in San Antonio.
Speaker 3 (01:24:25):
Kawhi never caused any trouble before that. Remember he would say, and.
Speaker 2 (01:24:29):
I'm heard now. We don't need to go to in
depth in the reliving of the Kawhi Leonard Soka because
I mean, it's not like Kawhi Leonard has been a
bastion of health since he left San Antonio. You know,
It's like he had he had really one season in
Toronto where he was, you know, fairly healthy, and for
(01:24:52):
the most part he's been a guy that's lived on
load management, i e. Being dinged up. So you know, say,
in one hand, half a dozen the other. If you
want to blame Pop for not believing him or just
you know, sometimes this is a crazy battle with injuries,
and I've seen it from both sides, and Jeff Schwartz
is a great guy to talk about this with. There's
(01:25:14):
a major difference between guys who are seriously injured and
have problems getting back and guys who coaches or medical
staff look at that get injured and they're like, you're
not taking care of yourself. And I kind of feel
like that's where they viewed Kawhi, not that he wasn't hurt,
but are you doing the things necessary to get yourself back?
That's what I always felt like was the issue in
(01:25:35):
San Antonio with Kawhi and Pop and everyone involved. But
load management worked, It still worked today. And is it
his lasting legacy? I mean, I would think five titles
would be the lasting legacy. I think five national champion
or NBA championships would be the lasting legacy. I think
(01:25:57):
a coaching tree that includes names like Will Hardy, Steve Kerr,
Doc Rivers, Quinn Snyder, m a Aduka Odoka excuse me,
Mike Bunholzer, Taylor Jenkins who both got fired this year.
There are you know, fourteen coaches who also played or
coached for someone who either played or coached for Popovich.
(01:26:19):
You got Eric Spolsterra and Jamal Mosley who served as
Pop's assistance in some capacity during his run at USA Basketball.
You know, it's every coach seems to have like a
Kevin Bacon degree of separation in some way, shape or
form to Greg Popovich. I mean, it's crazy, and you know,
in the end that to me, I think would be
(01:26:43):
his lasting legacy. But when it comes to kind of
reinventing the wheel and finding ways to make sure that
you're at your best when you need to be at
your best, which is in the NBA, you know, championship April,
May and June, then I mean give Greg Popovich, I
(01:27:04):
guess credit on that, But it also did kind of
suck some of the fun out of the regular season NBA.
And let's be clear, Let's be clear, there were still
guys that would miss games and there would be rest games,
But to the degree and the amount of work that
allegedly and reportedly popping his staff put into it, it
(01:27:25):
was a completely different way of looking at the league. Now, bree,
before we move on from pop to Tonight's rockets wore
or last night's Rockets Warriors game and a preview of
tonight's Clippers Nuggets game.
Speaker 3 (01:27:36):
Rob Parker Fair on that one, and do you agree that.
Speaker 2 (01:27:41):
His lasting legacy is not necessarily one of the best
things in term of fan involvement, which is load management.
I mean, I think.
Speaker 4 (01:27:51):
It's like, I guess, I'm looking at it from the
business side, and if it increases the longevity of these stars,
then that's BEENEFFI for the league and in the long term,
more money for them. So I understand that and I
agree with that, but I guess it's hard for me
to say, like, oh, it was against like the fans,
I'm just trying not to look at it from that end,
(01:28:12):
But I'm looking at it like it was. It was
like he was a pioneer in something that was going
to help the game and the stars. And in the
long term, you.
Speaker 2 (01:28:22):
Are adding to the long chevity of these players' careers
and you're putting your team in position to win titles.
Speaker 4 (01:28:29):
Be more successful. So I agree with that. And I
guess then, like I said, if I take my emotions
out of it and it's like, yeah, that sucks, I
would I might spend two hundred and fifty dollars on
a ticket to go see so and so, and they
might not play because you know they have a pinch
like nerve or like you know, their manicure, like a
nail is broken or whatever. Then that's suck, because yeah,
(01:28:49):
I totally get that. But that's just like price you
might pay. You might go see your play favorite player
and they might get hurt in the first quarter, and
that's just out of your control.
Speaker 2 (01:28:57):
You have no control over it. It's the Plank Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Reminder you could stream the show
and all of our Fox Sports Radio shows live twenty
four to seven in the new and approved iHeart Radio app.
To search Fox Sports Radio on the app and stream
us live. And one of the newest features in the
app is that you can select Fox Sports Radio is
one of your presets, just like the presets, just like
(01:29:18):
the presets on your radio dow So be sure to
preset Fox Sports Radio in the iHeart Radio app and
it will always pop up on top of the screen.
All right, before we get to Breeze three, I liked
this from Albert Breer. Now I don't know what show
this was on, because like twelve guys start talking in
the middle of it. But Albert Breer was talking about
(01:29:38):
the Shadoor Sanders fallout. Okay, and I'm not here to
try to debate and discuss shoud Or Sanders tonight or
into this morning, but this was kind of an interesting
angle on why it didn't seem to work with the Giants.
Speaker 20 (01:29:51):
The Giants one there was they give players an install
and their mistakes intentionally put in the install and he
didn't catch some and got called on it and it
didn't go well.
Speaker 2 (01:30:02):
After that.
Speaker 20 (01:30:03):
There was another team that he sat down with, What.
Speaker 3 (01:30:05):
Do you mean it didn't go well after that?
Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
He like he was, he was pissed that that they
that they did.
Speaker 3 (01:30:10):
They did that.
Speaker 2 (01:30:11):
He counter confronted that the same thing they do to
every other quarterback prospect, they did that to him. They
slide in a mistake to see if you catch it right,
and so because you're the quarterback, and he didn't take
it as a correction, he took it as like he
got just saw it.
Speaker 3 (01:30:22):
There's a lot going on there in the middle of
that clip.
Speaker 2 (01:30:24):
I have no idea what happened in the end, but
Albert Breer's point was Shoudor Sanders got bent whenever the
giants tried to trick him and tricked him, and he
didn't handle it like most other quarterbacks had or would.
Now I'm not saying that's the reason he fell all
the way to the fifth round. But there's another one
(01:30:45):
of those stories. And what's funny is Jeff Schwartz has
an incredible story.
Speaker 3 (01:30:50):
Well I'm really I'm really building up to the fellas today,
aren't I.
Speaker 2 (01:30:53):
But Jeff Schwartz has an incredible story about Shudor Sanders
at Pack twelve media day a couple of years ago.
And if the story isn't hey the whiteboard with the
Giants didn't go well. The other story is and Rick
new Heizel talked about this that he was on a
FaceTime call while he was meeting with a team. Okay,
(01:31:16):
all those there's too many of those stories for it
not to be true. Not everyone can make up the
same damn story. But over at Pro Football Talk, Mike Florio,
whom again covers the NFL even though he hates the league,
never really understood that has had this interesting kind of
(01:31:36):
angle that he's been pushing that I don't really currently
know if it's if it's really that big of a
deal or not. But Florio points out that Shador Sanders
and the attempt to go back to college for another
year could be something in the works.
Speaker 3 (01:31:57):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:31:58):
When I say in the works, not from should ours people,
but just something that you could see in the future
for prospects that slide. And according to Florio, his perspective
that it would make sense for should or Sanders to
try to go back in college was the most red
story in the twenty three and a half year history
(01:32:20):
of pro football talk. But I don't think that's a
world that we need to get into. If you commit
to the draft and the NFL has a drop dead
date in which you commit, the NBA does this too,
I don't think you should be allowed to then if
you don't like where you're drafted go back to college.
(01:32:43):
Teams have already moved on. No, and I get this.
We're in the NFL world, so nobody thinks about the
college side of this. Right, teams have moved on, portals
are closed. Let's just go be an adult, I guess
is one way to look at it. And just because
as you could probably go to court and fight it
and make it happen, that doesn't mean you have.
Speaker 3 (01:33:04):
To do it.
Speaker 2 (01:33:05):
Here's what Florio wrote. If a player doesn't officially sign
a professional contract, why shouldn't he be allowed to change
his mind? The NFL wouldn't like it, but so what,
of course, Mike, you hate the NFL. It's not the
NFL's issue. It's a question of whether and when the
door can be closed on a player playing college football.
If he's drafted but doesn't sign, he should be able
(01:33:26):
to keep playing college football.
Speaker 3 (01:33:29):
No he shouldn't.
Speaker 2 (01:33:31):
No, she shouldn't in the WNBA draft. No, he shouldn't
in the NBA. I just where my world is so flipped, Brie.
My world is so different in sports when I started
in sports, When I started covering sports, if you talked
about gambling on your radio show, you would get called
(01:33:53):
down to the boss's office. If you had a odds
maker on your show, you might have a conversation about
it with your PD. Hey man, listen, I'm just gonna
let you know. I got this guy named Jimmy Jack
that's coming on. He's the greatest handicaper ever. You okay
with this? We won't talk too much about, you know,
(01:34:13):
like spreads and stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:34:15):
Just a couple of picks, all right, that's good. Right now.
Speaker 2 (01:34:18):
You it's everywhere everywhere paying college athletes. Oh big, no, no,
don't bring that up. Just mentioning paying college athletes could
end up causing them eligibility. You can't even don't even
joke about it now. I mean, my gosh, one hundred
dollars handshakes aren't even enough to get yourself a good kicker,
(01:34:38):
right you just it's it's crazy, the budget and the
money that's out there.
Speaker 3 (01:34:42):
Look, Texas, what are they saying?
Speaker 2 (01:34:43):
Thirty million dollar roster this year for the Texas Longmoords.
And this is the one that I think blows my
mind even more. You had players fighting the NFL to
change the three year eligibility rule. For those who aren't
aware they're it is a rule that says you cannot
commit or play, and that you cannot commit yourself to
(01:35:06):
the NFL draft or play in the NFL unless you
have been out of college or I'm sorry, out of
high school for three years. You had to have played college,
have been out of high school for three seasons, and
then they've.
Speaker 3 (01:35:15):
Got to approve your application.
Speaker 2 (01:35:17):
Now, where Mike Williams and Maurice Clarett fought to try
to get out of school now you've got dudes fighting
for more eligibility. I mean, this Vanderbilt quarterback is going
to end up playing for like two more years because
the NCAA just can't win in court. And I bring
this up for this point. It's okay to have certain
(01:35:39):
rules where you're like, yeah, I could, I could probably
challenge that if I wanted to, and spend the money
to fight and go back to college and maybe make
a little bit more money in NIL than I would
in my first season in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:35:50):
But I think maybe it's time to go off.
Speaker 2 (01:35:52):
It's okay to not challenge something every single time just
because you might have a chance to win. And here's
the other part of it, at least in my world,
and what I'm thinking of INIL is about to change.
It's it's about to allegedly be completely flipped on its ear.
And when you hear about the money that Texas is
(01:36:14):
committing to its roster, everyone sees the future. And I
remember when I told you earlier that I went and
bore you to death with this house settlement talk. Well
it's coming and there's gonna be salary cap and genuine
NIL is supposed to come back to the college game
across the board. So all this money that allegedly Carson
Beck is getting in Brike's Underwood and Niko Yamaliav and
(01:36:37):
all these all this money that they're allegedly getting is
about to change. It's not gonna completely go away, but
it's gonna change. You're gonna be under a salary cap.
There's gonna be twenty and a half million that's got
to be shared amongst every single sport, and the schools
have to.
Speaker 3 (01:36:50):
Come up with that twenty and a half million.
Speaker 2 (01:36:52):
So this idea that oh I didn't get drafted where
I wanted to, I'm gonna go back to college. It's
it's okay to say no, I don't need to do that,
because that's a rule. We're going to follow it. We're
going pro the SEC. Final thought on this, just to
kind of give you an idea. The SEC, they have
(01:37:15):
a rule in the spring portal if you transfer in
the spring portal, if you put yourself as an SEC
student athlete, football, basketball, baseball, softball. Well, I guess baseball
and softball. We have one portal session Football, I guess
would be specific in that spring portal. In that spring
portal that just closed you can't transfer to another SEC
(01:37:39):
school and be eligible right away.
Speaker 3 (01:37:41):
You have to sit out. You know what.
Speaker 2 (01:37:43):
You could probably fight it. You could probably go to
court and fight it if you wanted, but guess what
the SEC decided, Yeah, just not do that for the
betterment of our league and for the betterment of our teams.
It's not stunting anyone's opportunity to go somewhere and play.
We've just agreed that if you're going to get in
the portal in the spring, unless you're a grad student
(01:38:05):
like it used to be, you can't go to another
SEC school and play right away. Go anywhere else you want,
We'll let you go, but you're not going to another
SEC school. And you know why, I love it, because
they just got together and decided, Hey, that's a rule
we're all just going to follow. And could we probably
try to go fight and spend millions of dollars in court, Sure,
(01:38:28):
but it's not worth it because we're all agreeing, and
I think everyone agrees. Want you declare for the NFL
or the NBA draft, go be a pro. Good luck,
And guess what, there's other options than the NFL. There's
the CFL, there's the whatever, we're calling the XFL, USFL
whatever it is now. There's opportunities in the NBA where
(01:38:49):
you can go play overseas in the G League. Go
be a pro.
Speaker 3 (01:38:52):
You don't need to be fighting to get back to college.
Speaker 2 (01:38:54):
And I just every so often I reached this point
of just does everything have to be litigious? Does everything
have to be Oh, I go fight him in court. No,
go be an adult, Go be a pro. You made
this decision, live with it. And sometimes it's not bad.
And all this talk, all this talk this week, who's
(01:39:15):
to say that Chador doesn't end up balling out in
Cleveland ended up being the better quarterback than Gabriel or
Flacco or Deshaun Watson or Kenny Picken.
Speaker 3 (01:39:24):
It's possible.
Speaker 2 (01:39:26):
I'm sorry, did not mean to get all riled up.
It's just florial, man. I don't know why. I love
reading the articles on Pro Football Talk. I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:39:35):
I think it's a great website.
Speaker 2 (01:39:36):
But sometimes, man, that guy gets on a bully pulpit
and you're just like, dude, just let it. He doesn't
want to. No one's doing no one's fighting for this,
no one is let him go be pros. And if
it doesn't work out. The world needs ditch diggers too, right, Okay,
(01:39:56):
quick break. When we come back, it's time for Breeze three.

Not two, but three sports.
Speaker 2 (01:40:51):
It's entertainment.
Speaker 1 (01:40:52):
It's good. It's Breeze three.
Speaker 3 (01:40:57):
All right, Breeze what we got today?
Speaker 4 (01:41:00):
So earlier this week, it was announced that Shaq is
going to enter his first season as GM of the
Sacramento State men's basketball team.
Speaker 2 (01:41:09):
Did you see that? Yes? Yeah, joining names like uh
Trey Young GM at Oklahoma right now, Steph Korea Davidson,
and I.
Speaker 4 (01:41:17):
Think at Sacramento State. I think Mike Bibby is there.
Does that sound right?
Speaker 2 (01:41:23):
Mike Bibby is at Sacramento State.
Speaker 4 (01:41:25):
I'm like, I should have looked that up before, but
I'm yes, he is. Oh wow, is yeah in a
current basketball Oh no, he's at cal State University of Yeah,
he's around there. Oh no, no, he's there, he's there march.
Speaker 3 (01:41:41):
Yes, Okay, Mike Bibby's the head coach. Michael Bibby is
the associate head coach.
Speaker 2 (01:41:45):
Gotcha?
Speaker 4 (01:41:45):
Oh okay, have even better.
Speaker 2 (01:41:47):
Look at you.
Speaker 3 (01:41:47):
Google works magic for me.
Speaker 2 (01:41:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:41:50):
So that'll that's exciting, very happy for them. So I
just kind of I went kind of basic here. I
was like, let's just go with movies that have to
do with college, like just like like you know in
college times, like.
Speaker 2 (01:42:01):
For instance, Shack's going back to school. Yes, so we're
coming up with college based movies. Okay, I'm here for.
Speaker 4 (01:42:09):
Are we here for it? Okay? I went Whiplash for
my first one. I don't know if I've seen Miles Turner.
It was in it. He was obviously in Top Gun
The Ball Oh Miles Teller. Okay, sorry speaking a pacer
as pacers are on my mind. Oh my god, thank you. Yeah,
Miles Teller. So he was in Top Gun. He was cute,
(01:42:32):
you know, cute baby face. He wants to be a drummer.
Speaker 2 (01:42:36):
And J. K.
Speaker 4 (01:42:37):
Simmons is the teacher and it's it's a very intense movie.
I recommend it. But he is at a conservatory kind
of college, and it's it's a really good movie. It
was in twenty fourteen, so Whiplash. Whiplash, Yeah, I think
it was nominated and it was, you know, critically acclaimed.
Speaker 2 (01:42:54):
I think j.
Speaker 13 (01:42:57):
JK.
Speaker 4 (01:42:57):
Simmons one, yeah, I think he did too, yeah for
Best Actor.
Speaker 5 (01:43:01):
So that sounds right.
Speaker 4 (01:43:02):
So totally recommend, great college movie. My second one, I
went Legally Blonde Jrese Witherspoon. Obviously, good rom com, great movie.
You know, loses her boyfriend, goes to Harvard to try
to win him back, you know, obviously runs into some
of Blair. It's a whole shebang, very inspiring. Obviously made
me want to be a lawyer.
Speaker 2 (01:43:21):
For ria year. We have allowed the girls to watch that.
Speaker 4 (01:43:24):
You have good movie, right inspiring.
Speaker 2 (01:43:27):
It's it's good.
Speaker 4 (01:43:28):
Yeah, it really is, right, Okay, got okay, so very inspiring.
So that was my second one, and then my third one,
I went the social network from twenty ten, the whole
Facebook Mark Zuckerberg debacle. Also Army Hammers in it, you know,
and you know the story about him right, the cannibal, Yeah, exactly,
(01:43:48):
so that whole thing. So yeah, so I you know,
it's just just a little bit of everything, but lash
little little drama, legally blonde, a little rom calm, and
then back to the drama with a social network. I
you know, I mean like I felt like you guys
are going to kind of go to the animal house
the drum route that goes for my three. So Mark
all you boob so.
Speaker 5 (01:44:10):
You already guessed it, Well I'll do it in a
different order.
Speaker 15 (01:44:13):
My number three of Breeze three is Goodwill Hunting, so.
Speaker 2 (01:44:18):
That was really classic good one. Yeah, and then my.
Speaker 15 (01:44:21):
Number two is back to School Roteney, Danger for the Field,
the triple end.
Speaker 5 (01:44:26):
The classic Yeah, the triple that was just.
Speaker 3 (01:44:30):
It was just have you ever seen that?
Speaker 4 (01:44:32):
Bree No, but my Dad was talking to me about
it and he was like, you should watch it. So
that was when we were talking about the topics. I
always talk to him every week about it, and he
was like, oh, back to school, and I'm like, yeah,
you got it.
Speaker 15 (01:44:43):
Okay, him talking to the college professor about setting up
a business and you know, widgets and what to do
and who you got to pay. You left out a
bunch of things. And then my third one would be
Animal House because that's John Belushi, just totally funny stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:44:59):
So we'll get to our honorable mentions the next episode.
Speaker 2 (01:45:03):
This might be a first in the history of Breeze
three because we're all going to have different threes, all right.
My number three is a little movie called Old School,
which involves Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughan and then that other
guy and they just it reminds me so much of
(01:45:26):
my life. Whenever I'll get together with old friends, it's like,
hey man, I can still party like that, and you
know what, I can't do party like that? So Old
School is number three. Number two a little bit of
an older one here, but it's in some people's minds.
They consider this movie a prequel. They consider this movie
(01:45:48):
to be the genesis for Deadpool. I'm talking about Van Wilder,
which is Ryan Reynolds whenever he was in college for
I'm an incredible amount of time.
Speaker 15 (01:46:02):
I was thinking about that, but i'd actually see the movie,
but go, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:46:05):
It's a listen, I don't know if it holds up. Okay,
it's a twenty three year old movie. I don't know,
so I can't see her and go, yeah, you gotta
watch it. But it is Ryan Reynolds and his co
star in the movie is Tara Reid Bunny Lebowski. So yeah,
a little different world. But I'm a big Van Wilder fan.
(01:46:26):
In fact, it's funny. I still have the DVD if
you want to borrow anyone who want to borrow the DVD?
If I sent you the DVD, would you be able
to find somewhere to play it?
Speaker 3 (01:46:36):
My third movie.
Speaker 2 (01:46:39):
In honor of Shack becoming the general manager of Sacramento
State this week Breeze three are favorite college movies. Let
me take you back to a time when Chris Plank
was in college nineteen ninety four for the Jeremy Piven
thriller piece See You, which is an incredible look into
(01:47:03):
what America is actually at right now thirty one years later,
P see you. I would highly suggest copious amounts of
the marriage you wanna if you're gonna watch this to
make sure that it makes sense. But David Spain is
in it, John Fava is in it. In fact, John
Favra plays like literally some stone college kid the whole
(01:47:27):
time that's got get this, Oh not dreadlocks. What's it
called like cornrows? He's his hair is like braided out
as wild. And I love this movie because they put
on a concert and spoiler alert for a thirty one
year old movie, they put on a concert to try to,
I think, save their house. And George Clinton in the
(01:47:47):
pfonk play It's awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:47:49):
It's a great movie. It's a great movie.
Speaker 2 (01:47:51):
Now hold on Rotten Tomatoes gives it fifty percent, so
that's probably it's probably not good.
Speaker 3 (01:47:58):
But PC you those are those.
Speaker 2 (01:48:00):
Are my three. Who'd you guys have on the honorable
mention list?
Speaker 5 (01:48:04):
So my honor my list is The water Boy.
Speaker 3 (01:48:07):
That's a good college movie.
Speaker 5 (01:48:08):
So had the Social Network, you know, the start of Face.
Speaker 2 (01:48:11):
So we had one that we agreed upon, and then.
Speaker 15 (01:48:14):
School Days a Spike Lee movie, and then I also
had old school.
Speaker 3 (01:48:17):
Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:48:18):
Okay, anything on your honorable mention.
Speaker 4 (01:48:20):
I had Mistress America, which was kind of like an
indie movie with Grete Gerwig and Lola Kirk, which was
she's the sister of Jemima Kirk who was in Girls. Okay,
so that was a little bit more on a little
bit on the randomish side, but that was a little
bit collegey. And then I thought of Pitch Perfect because
that's just a cute.
Speaker 3 (01:48:38):
Oh my gosh, So this is funny.
Speaker 2 (01:48:42):
It's funny you say that because my girls are out
of school next week for the summer, and we're like, dude,
what are you gonna do. We're gonna have these kids
around all the time, so we're trying to find like
movies that maybe they can start watching. In my wife's
sec I think I'm gonna let them watch Pitch Perfect.
I was like, I don't know a lot of innu
(01:49:02):
windows in there, I think, so again, I've got a
sixteen and an eleven year old.
Speaker 4 (01:49:10):
Maybe the eleven year old, right.
Speaker 2 (01:49:14):
Two honorable mentions for me include an animal House. But
then I also threw in so, okay, funny story. Two
weeks ago, we were waiting for a flight and we
got stuck at an airport, but not like we were
in the hype it's gonna sound so fancy.
Speaker 3 (01:49:33):
We're like in the private airport area, hoy floy.
Speaker 2 (01:49:36):
And we had a room and they had like every
movie you could possibly want.
Speaker 3 (01:49:39):
So we watched Blue Chips.
Speaker 2 (01:49:41):
Oh have you seen Blue Chips?
Speaker 4 (01:49:43):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:49:43):
I have. It doesn't hold up because everything they do
that in that movie is legal now, right, So I
watched Blue Chips and that's underrated. I mean, it's still terrible,
but it's underrated. And every single person who played high
school football loved the program. So those were my two
potentials that didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:50:03):
Farsity blues Chee that was the really high school you though.
Speaker 2 (01:50:07):
Right. Oh yeah, Mike the Leprechaun does point out that
we forgot Forrest comp Forest Cup had like one scene
when he was in college when he played at Alabama
and he had a pee.
Speaker 4 (01:50:17):
That's the whole life movie. Yeah, that is true.
Speaker 3 (01:50:20):
That is true.
Speaker 2 (01:50:21):
All right, good stuff. That's another award winning edition of
Breeze three here on Fox Sports Radio. Now, I want
to get a couple of tweets in here before we
get out, and then we've got our picks Oh my gosh,
we got the plank parlay coming up here in just
a bit BP, BP Welcome to the show. He writes,
college hockey players and college baseball players can stay in
(01:50:44):
school if drafted by the NHL or MLB. Why should
rules be different for college football players? Well, first of all,
the college baseball rules have changed. You know, you can
you can hold out and go back to school. But
even in that, the baseball team will get its pick back, right,
They'll usually get a compensatory pickback. And you're not seeing
(01:51:07):
it happen anymore. And it's mostly BP high school kids,
like a high school kid that's turning pro. And again,
it's just something that hasn't happened a lot recently. And
NIL isn't drawing people to college baseball. They're making infinitely
more in the college baseball draft than they're making NIL
in college. So good example, right, I think it's a
(01:51:28):
good point. But it's just baseball has always had different rules, Like, okay,
are we going to start letting high school kids declare
for the NFL draft? Because baseball can do it, why
can't the NFL? And the NFL's rule about the three
years is an NFL rule not a college rule. So
college baseball, for those that aren't familiar, you can declare
for the Major League Baseball draft out of high school
(01:51:50):
if you want. But once you go to a full
four year college, you're there for three years. You can
go to a JUCO and declare for the draft anytime
you want. And I'm just ignorant on the college hockey rules.
I wouldn't know, ask Arnie, but I just I again,
why challenge it?
Speaker 3 (01:52:07):
You turn pro?
Speaker 2 (01:52:08):
Go pro? You don't like where you're going, Hey, you
know what, that's the breaks, go be great, and then
you'll end up making more money than you can.
Speaker 3 (01:52:16):
Ever think of.
Speaker 2 (01:52:18):
Craig about Popovich, he was like Bill Parcell's and the
fact that he wasn't a player's coach. He told it
like it was like it or not, he adds. And
all these people commenting about Shador Sanders seem to forget
that Dion refused to go to Detroit.
Speaker 3 (01:52:37):
Back in eighty nine. Buddy, If we cover the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:52:40):
Draft in nineteen eighty nine like we do today, oh
my goodness, to think pieces that would have been written
about how far Dion should fall would be innumerable. But
here's the thing. He was that good and if you
decide you're not going to go interview somewhere, you're not
going to go talk to IT team because you don't
(01:53:01):
want to. Well, when you're as good as Deon Sanders was,
you can get away with it.
Speaker 3 (01:53:06):
Laramie Tunzel, the night of.
Speaker 2 (01:53:08):
The draft, there was a video that surfaced of him
smoking weed out of a gas mask. Everybody flipped out.
He fell five spots. Why because he was Laramie Tunzel
and he's had a really solid NFL career, he was
still a first round pick. Now, there's certain instances that
(01:53:30):
things pop up like shandor Sanders had bad interviews and
might not be all that talented. Lyle Collins was rumored
to be involved in a potential murder of his ex
girlfriend and.
Speaker 3 (01:53:40):
He completely fell off the board on his draft night.
Speaker 2 (01:53:43):
He's ended up having a pretty nice NFL career and
recovering from it, but his first thought wasn't man, I
better get back to school. I don't think anyone says
there's still more money to be made in the NFL
than there is in college football, and it's about to
become an even larger discrepancy when we reach the share era.
We got one more segment left and then we'll hand
(01:54:04):
it off to this thinking genius next. Right here on
Fox Sports Radio, Larry did hit on one's one that
I'm very disappointed that I forgot for Breeze three Bris
Revenge of the Nerds.
Speaker 3 (01:54:18):
Have you seen it?
Speaker 4 (01:54:19):
Like half of it? I don't think I liked.
Speaker 3 (01:54:22):
It, Alphabe, Oh you didn't like it?
Speaker 4 (01:54:24):
No, maybe I should try it again.
Speaker 2 (01:54:26):
No, No, I mean, I don't know if it's going
to hold up. I'm just gonna be honest with you.
I loved it the Alpha Betas Nerds.
Speaker 3 (01:54:35):
There is a very very.
Speaker 2 (01:54:37):
Perfect eighties like rap concert or prap concert music. What
am I trying to say here? Competition? Yeah? Yeah, they
had a routine and it's so eighties, so eighties you
would love it. I just realized I owe you the
Plank Parlay. But I'm not really confident in any of
(01:54:57):
my picks right now. We have we hit one and
we haven't hit one since. So let's give it a
good old college try.
Speaker 3 (01:55:06):
Here.
Speaker 2 (01:55:06):
It's time for the speaking of colleges. It's time for
the Plank Parlay.
Speaker 3 (01:55:10):
A lot of people look at parlay's as what profitability.
Speaker 2 (01:55:13):
I like the amount of money I could win probability
based on what it shows me.
Speaker 1 (01:55:17):
I could possibly want.
Speaker 3 (01:55:20):
You decide if you want to buy yourself.
Speaker 1 (01:55:21):
It's the Plank parlay.
Speaker 3 (01:55:24):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:55:24):
So we got a big one tonight between the Clippers
and the Nuggets.
Speaker 3 (01:55:29):
This is in Denver.
Speaker 2 (01:55:31):
Now, you know me three games not on player props yet,
just because I'm not smart enough. Nuggets open is a
three and a half point favorite that has been bet
down to one and a half. I'm gonna take the
Clippers plus one and a half. I'm gonna take the
(01:55:52):
over two oh six. So that's part one and then
part I guess that's Part one and two, and then
part three. Give me all the Cavaliers tomorrow. Give me
all the Cavaliers. Now it's a big number, it's a
massive number for an NBA playoff game. It's eight and
(01:56:15):
a half. But give me the Cavaliers for the third
leg of my parlay. So I'm going clips plus one
and a half. I'd even go as far as maybe
playing the money line there. I'm taking the over. The
lad was that over number two oh six? Probably should
write this down, and then I'm taking all the Cavaliers
(01:56:37):
I can get tomorrow. Started the second round of the tournament.
Do you think that there is a chance, Bree, that
we're going to see a Thunder Cavaliers final and everyone's
going to lose their mind because they'll freak out that
it's Cleveland and Oklahoma City.
Speaker 4 (01:56:56):
That would be hilarious. But I could totally see it happening.
But I would love it. I love both those teams.
I think there's so much fun.
Speaker 2 (01:57:04):
They are and see that's the thing, you know, Arnie
and Arnie's coming up next season with Jeff Schwartz, and
I push back hard against those that are like, oh,
people only care if it's Los Angeles or Boston or
New York. And I mean, in fairness, nobody really knew
anything about Golden State till they won a couple titles
and then it became must see TV. So to me,
(01:57:27):
I think Gogloma City's got a great chance to win
the title this year. And I think Shay Gilgess Alexander
has a great chance to become that kind of dude
with this league.
Speaker 3 (01:57:35):
Dare I even say the face.
Speaker 2 (01:57:37):
Of the league. But as this show has progressed, I
don't know why. Maybe it's maybe it's your doggeds determination
and belief that this series is not beating down the
Clippers or the Nuggets, but that it is actually galvanizing
them and making them stronger. I'm not gonna lie. That's
kind of scaring me a little bit, Bri, because I
(01:57:59):
came in here with the confidence of job, feeling that,
oh my gosh, there is no chance either one of
these teams are gonna have anything left in the tank.
When if they score off against Okay, see no chance.
And you come rolling in telling me that you think
it's bringing them together, making them.
Speaker 4 (01:58:16):
Stronger with the Clippers. But if the Nuggets, then I think, yeah,
they're done. Then you know, Oka see in four or five.
Speaker 2 (01:58:23):
You know, I feel like this is kissing up to
Ben Armns. I don't think you really believe this.
Speaker 4 (01:58:28):
I do, and I can't believe in either. I don't
care about the Clippers, That's what's so crazy. But I've
been watching them and it's just it's just something really.
Speaker 2 (01:58:37):
Good, something they look really good. Hey, we're done. But
a reminder that if you missed anything tonight, we had
some good We had some good calls an hour two
latter part of our one, and some good perspective on
stories like should or slipping the NBA Playoffs, the uh
unmet expectations for the Lakers, and obviously the excite and
(01:59:00):
over the rest of the NBA playoffs and of course
my favorite topic, when the world is going on with
Aaron Rodgers, why does he not have a team? So
if you missed any of tonight's show, be sure to

Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
AUSI was writes, don't forget about the program. We had
the uncut version here in Australia. Do you remember what
they cut out of the program? Mark Brie in our
final minute? Anyone? Anyone? They cut out of the program
a scene where the dudes were laying in the middle
of a highway because dopes were going out and doing
(01:59:54):
it in the middle of the road and guys were
getting killed. And it was one scene the highway where
they lay in the middle of the road. It's like whoa,
which was never something I ever wanted to do. And
cars were just whizzing by them, so they had to
cut it from And I think there was some nudes
in there too, right, maybe so?
Speaker 3 (02:00:13):
And yes, Gunnar, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (02:00:14):
I cannot forget about the Timberwolves, who will merely be
a speed bump in Oklahoma's quest for a national for
an NBA title. Y'all have a great Saturday, enjoy the
Kentucky Derby. We'll be back Sunday night with Arnie Spanier
