Steve never stops talking even when the show ends, and
he just continued to talk about how great Olden Polinice's
predictions have been in these NBA playoffs. So tonight the
Minnesota Timberwolves are back home against the Oklahoma City Thunder

and it's okay, see up two to zher, Olden. I
don't know who you picked in the series, and we
can get to that later, but tonight, for what's at
stake this evening? How does it play out tonight? If
I'm to believe that Steve Hartman is truthful in everything
that he says about your predictions.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Well, finally getting some credit. I believe that Minnesota's gonna
win tonight. I did have Oklahoma City winning the series
only because I quite I see that the better team,
they're more energetic. There's a lot of issues with the
Minnesota Timberwolves with this matchup. I had them winning the
last series only because obviously, of course, you know, with

injuries and everything else. But yeah, when Steph won, it
was a rap. But I just don't believe, like go
bad what he did against the Lakers, he can't do
against okay See, because they have two long dudes that
can defend him, you know, give him different looks, and
Chut Holmgan can just pull him out, you know, and

what are you gonna do? So they forced Minnesota to
go small, which is an advantage to okay See. So
but I believe Minnesota will win tonight only because of
the energy factor and the fact that you know, this
is not going to be a sweep by any means,
and so they're gonna get this one tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
I was curious what Olden was going to say, and
I was not going to just do whatever Olden says.
But I completely agree with you that tonight is Minnesota's night,
and I think that the NBA has to have it
be Minnesota's night. Ah. And I'm not saying that the
fix is in. That is not what I'm saying, Olden.
But we have two series that are two to zero.

You have an NBA Finals that starts June fifth, that's
another week and some days afterwards. The NBA cannot afford
to have a series go three to oh and then
the other one where the road team took the first
two on the road and goes back home to Indianapolis
tomorrow night with the Pacers and Knicks playing, and the

next may very well win that game tomorrow night. But
the NBA cannot have this series right here, be a
three to zero series and have this wrapped. And I
think tonight you're gonna see the flip side of SGA's calls.
I don't think he's really going to get calls tonight.
I think the players that will get calls are obviously

Anthony Edwards. But to your point about Rudy Gobert not
being a factor, I think Gobert will be better offensively tonight,
and I think Julius Randa will have a great game
offensively tonight. I think they'll be able to score down though.
I think they'll be able to get calls tonight. That's
how I think it plays out tonight in Minnesota Game four.
Who knows, but tonight we need it. They need it,

everybody needs it. Everybody needs Minnesota to win tonight. Oh definitely.
You know, I'm the biggest conspiracy theorist in.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
The world, so because I was in there, so I
know how this thing plays out a little bit. Just
like when I used to see certain referees, I knew
how to flow. The game was gonna be just by
the who the referees are. You know, is it a
tight whistle, is it a loose whistle? And so you know,
like Shay Gilgers has done an incredible job in this
MVP season of drawing files even though he's initiating contact.

And that's one of the things that I have a
gripe with because he's initiated a contract contact. He extends
his elbow. The other night they made a call and
it was absurd to me that it was a back
to back play. Julius Reynold got called for a push off.
Shaye went down and did the same exact thing, same extension,

but it wasn't a file. So again, you know, it's
one of those situations. But you're right, the NBA cannot
have a three to zero series with the Knicks having
lost the two home games.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
I just and he's not gonna get those calls tonight.
It's just it's not going to happen. Not in front
of that crowd as well, that's not going to happen.
You know. The other in sequence from game two that
stood out in my mind was it was the Jaden
McDaniels shove of Shake Gildess Alexander. Yeah. But the reason
why it stood out to me was from what you

said is SGA is the one that's always drawing the contact.
He's the one that's bringing it into himself and on
that play and McDaniel's getting in foul trouble, whether it's
his fault or not. In Game one, hurt them, Oklahoma
City went on their run after he did. But in
Game two, when McDaniels shoves him, that whole sequence Olden

(05:20):
was SGA doing his baiting, grabbing his arm. Then he
beats them because McDaniel's just kind of fed up with it,
beats them, and what does SGA do slows up to
bring him back to do it again, and that's the
stuff that then gets under your skin, and that's the
stuff that starts to things to get a little chippy.

(05:41):
And so now you have the second straight time where
Daniels was not happy and in game one ended up
fouling out that game, and now you have this. You
kind of just have that boiling overpoint and negative energy.
I think turns into a positive energy tonight for Minnesota.
But he's he's getting under people's skin.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Well, it is what it is, you know, I mean,
if you're good enough to I used to always say this,
it's only a foul if the referees call it. But
the problem that I have with that statement is also this,
it's all arbitrary. You know, a slap on the wrist
is a foul. The next play or even the same play,
it's not a foul. It's like make up your mind.

Perfect example was Alex Caruso in the Denva series against Jokics.
I'm not gonna call the file because it's Alix Caruso.
He's a small guy, But if it was a big guy,
it would have been called a foul. That makes no
sense to me. A foul is a foul no matter
who's defending. True, But that's you're the just said it.

(06:40):
You're the biggest conspiracy theorist that there is. It's never
been a problem for the NBA to to say, all right,
well it's a foul on him, but it's not on him.
That's going on for prior to when I was born,
that stuff was happening. Yeah, that was Shack's big argument.
You know, Will Chamberlain all those guys gone through it. Man.

But it's like, come on, you don't referee size, you
referee to play. Is it a fiul?

Yes? No, I don't care about anything else that you know.
And that's the you know, you talk about Rudy Gobert
getting his and obviously Shaq's skill set was completely different.
But when you saw Shack, Shack had a reason to
be annoyed. The Julius Randall SGA comparison that you brought
up is just to me, it's home court road team

sort of deal, MVP versus very good player. There are
all those sort of discrepancies. Shack was such a unique spot,
maybe even just it's because how physically massive he was
and how athletically gifted he was. But in that situation,
there is the hierarchy of calls MVP at home getting

the calls, Julius Randall a level or two under that
on the road, not getting the calls. That's the NBA
in a nutshow.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Definitely, And it's sad though, you know, I mean, you
make a great point, but it is still sad that
it functions that way. And I think you killing your
product when you don't have the best out there, no
matter what it is, best coaches, best players, best referees.

(08:20):
If you don't have those three things going, you're killing
your own product.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Well, I feel that they feel that they have the
best referees because I just end up seeing the same guys.
I know they're telling us different guys, and I don't
know if it's because it's Zack Zarba that's always on
the mic or Scott Foster is always going over and
is on the mic. I know they have different officials,
but I felt Tony Brothers has reffed every game of
these playoffs. I mean, I swear, I guarantee he's probably

reughing tonight. I when the game starts and we see
am I wrong? Olden? Am I wrong? You're wrong? Game right?
Jim Caper? Like it's I know they have other guys.
But for some reason, I feel it's.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
You have to earn the right to referee in the
playoffs and in the conference finals and in the finals.
There's a system that they use, supposedly, and I don't
know how true that is. That's one of the things
they need to make transparent. It's like, how do you
come up with that? Sure, some of these guys do
not belong in the conference finals right now refereeing.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
I don't think I've seen Ed molloy once, but I've
seen his screenshot when they would say these are the
officials of the Conference finals. But I just feel like
I've seen a lot of Scott Foster and Tony Brothers. Yes,
by the way, the Minnesota side of thing, if it
goes the other way, which again Olden doesn't think so,
I don't think so. We both think Minnesota wins tonight.
If you're a Timberwolves fan, what's next? And the reason

(09:49):
that I say that is because what I feel happens
and I feel this happened with my own team, the
Milwaukee Bucks, is the Milwaukee Bucks have Giannis and all
of a sudden they're put into a class that they
really weren't familiar in being with the haves as opposed
to the have nots, and you're like, we cannot waste
this generational talent. And for them they cashed in four

years ago. Ever since, it's been tough, and now they're
gonna have a decision something that you and I will
talk about at some point later on in the show,
as Doc Rivers is saying, I thought deannas all the
time point being is Doc Rivers is his coach. Adrian
Griffin was his coach, Mike Budenholzer was his coach. Jason
Kidd was his coach. So you're making all these changes
because you don't know if you're going to get to

these certain points without these guys, and then you do,
and then maybe it flattens out and you make a change,
and then that change doesn't work, so you make another change. Here,
Minnesota has Anthony Edwards, the first overall pick, swings a
trade that sent a bunch of first round picks to
Utah to get Rudy Gobert. And now this last offseason,
after losing in five games, say Karl Anthony Towns is
not with us. We're gonna bring in Julius Randall. We're
gonna bring in Dante DiVincenzo. If they don't win tonight

(10:56):
and if they don't make it out of the Western
Conference Finals, do you think anything changed in Minnesota in
terms of the Timberwolves after two would be two straight
Western Conference Final oustings. It would have to change on
two positions.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
Point guard. I love Mike Conley, but Mike Conley is
not the guy. Mike Conley is a backup at this
stage in his career. He's a backup. You know that
jump shot is not butter.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
You know, he's struggle plus fourteen, it's still a struggle.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Okay, So he's not your championship He's he can be
on a championship team, but as a backup. And also
in the other position is Rudy Gobet's position. He's not
call Anthony Towns. And one of the things one of
the biggest mistakes Minnesota made in Game one and also
in Game two is where they were giving him the ball.

(11:50):
Rudy Gobert is not a setup, pick, cast and ball,
make a move kind of guy. He has to be
under the basket, raid of power up. That's it. Drop
off guy. And if they don't have a guy that
could be a threat offensively as well, then they gonna
have problems.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
I just I so hope that it doesn't happen to them.
I do worry. Chris Finch's done an amazing job. There
A lot of times it falls on the coach. And
when you have Anthony Edwards and you have the pieces
and you fall short, You're like, where else do you turn?
And I'm wondering if that conversation would start up, even
though again Minnesota's reached spots that they really haven't prior

to him taking over, aside from two thousand and four
when they made it to the conference finals. But you
get into that conversation of all right, we've made it
this far. Last year it didn't work. We got ousted
in five games. The next year we made it just
as far and we got ousted again. What do we
change again so this doesn't happen? And olden the West
is not getting any easier, Like every year we say

this of you know, the the Western Conference so much
better than the East, and at some point you think
there's gonna be a drop off. Well, Mavericks had the
first overall pick with Cooper flag and o Kyrie's out,
but the Spurs we expect to be a lot better
than they are. Like, it's just it's a grind. Oklahoma
City's not going anywhere, man.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
You know, Oklahoma City has a guy that hasn't even
played for him yet, and he could be one of
the top players on their team, Nicola Topic. They still
have him waiting in the wings to come and play.
Sam Presy is the genius of geniuses. He's able to

(13:31):
swing and get an MVP, get a jail, and Williams
All Star, get the other jail, and Williams get Kenrich Williams,
get all these cats. I mean they got more Williams
than any Williams. Yeah, they got So It's like, and
he has draft picks still. If he wants to swing
for the fences on a major trade, he can do it.

(13:53):
He has enough pieces.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
They've had so many opportunities. I mean, like when you
look at the arsenal of picks that they have to
swing deals and they haven't done it. And it's a
reason why I cheer for them. They didn't. They they
weren't not like the Sixers. They were not like we're
gonna stink for six years. We're gonna load everybody up
and we're gonna have top five picks. Russell Westbrook stayed

(14:15):
around for a little while. They ended up that's not working.
They basically had two years where it didn't work out
for him. They then made the play in tournament the
next year made good on those picks. The biggest deal
was obviously the Paul George trade to bring Shay Gil
just Alexander to Oklahoma City. But you're right, and there
were opportunities. I thought there was a one point olden
that Kevin Durant this was pre Phoenix, this is when

he went out of Brooklyn could have gone back and
righted some wrongs in Oklahoma City. But they didn't. They didn't.
They did not, They did not go down that road.
They didn't swing a trade for him. And they've held
on to their assets and they're they're in a much
better position for it, considering that this is the best
team in the NBA. Oh bye flaw, bye faw.

And they've done it, you know, for lack of a
better word, they have done it organically, you know, through
absolutely they guys and Jell and Williams, the one they
called JDub the All Star. I mean, my goodness, his
development is insane and the fact that when they got Shay,

because that was one of UH requirements. Basically, that's what
it is. We got to get a young star or
a young star guy with potential, with star potential, and
look at him, he's an MVP. But yet you still
got all your draft picks back later on through trades.
You know, when they got with a Paul George, when
they got Chris Paul whoever it is. It's like we

stockpiling draft picks, but we're getting better. These guys have
made the greatest moves of any team in the NBA.
Every move they've made has been amazing, and it's like
you just you're an amazing You are in awe of them.

There's your breakdown of the thunder and it's also everything
hasn't on right, but they've made the right pick. Like
chet Holmgrim missed his rookie year, got injured, was not available,
but guess what, Like Josh Giddy panned out to the
point where they could then trade him to Chicago to
bring in Alex Caruso. To your point, Jalen Williams, the

was late lottery pick and so he ends up coming
in and working out. It has worked out piece after
piece after piece, and it's I called them America's team
at the start of these playoffs because they weren't littered
with top five lottery picks, because Shay Gildess Alexander was
the young piece and the Paul George headline trade and

the way that they've come together and they put it
together loud thwrt's you know, been there a wild and
I do it. So there's I mean, there's all NBA
a lot, a lot of pieces that fit together in
that puzzle. That's why they are where they are tonight,
Olden and I just don't think they're going to win.

we just never see in the NBA. Shay Giljess Alexander

is a flopper. Nicola Jokic should have won his fourth
MVP in five years, but no, SGA gets the MVP,
doing so pretty handedly seventy one out of a possible
one hundred first place votes. Jokic got the other twenty
nine first place votes. But Shay Gildess Alexander is the MVP.
Should he be? Oh Man, great question. This is the

only way I can answer it.

Djokas seasoned b this year, it's better than it's three
previous MVP years, and yet he doesn't win MVP. And
that's why I've always said this thing is who do
I like this year? Who am I gonna vote for this?
That's all it is, because you can't really tell. I
say this many many years ago, Michael Jordan most likely

could have won MVP every season. Shaquille O'Neill could have
won MVP every season, you know, because you take them
out of the lineup, you know, it's a different story.
I'm thinking, if I take Shay Gilgers out of the lineup,
Minnesota still wins games. But if I take Joker out
of the lineup, they're a lottery team. They are They're

a lottery team. So to me, that's where the value
comes in. And so, but the fact that this man's
season this year is better than the three previous MVP
years is absurd to me.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
Can I can I tell you what my biggest pet
peeve is with the MVP, and it's us breaking down
what the MVP is. And I think you hit a
lot of the points of like, well we break down
what valuable is or we bring up the numbers. This thing,
to me has been more of a marketing ploy with

the league, which, by the way, Olden, I don't mind
as much. It doesn't bother me as much as you said,
Michael Jordan could have been the MVP every single season.
Shack could have been the MVP. If I'm Shack, I
probably am ticked because the only one at once the
Steve Nashers, Yeah, and the Steve Nashiers that that that
you could have won MVPs any of the other years

he was a candidate. It is a It is a
moving piece of hardware that goes and spotlights parts of
the NBA. And if you don't recognize that, and it's why, honestly, Olden,
my argument for Shay Gilgess Alexander is because he fits
the suit, and that's been the suit of the MBA

of new guy on the Rise team as the best record,
what has he done? Like those? Those are pieces and
now for us to say, oh gosh, look at Yogics's numbers,
I'm not saying you're saying that, but that is the
argument against SGA and the historic portion of it. We
could do that for the last forty years. My whole

thing is just stop taking the MVP for what it
is and trying to make it as a valuable thing.
It is a piece of hardware that has used as
propaganda to promote the league. And now you have all
these different MVPs. It's never been a gauge on who's
the best and who isn't the best. It's never been that.
Maybe in certain years, Okay, this will be a you know,
this will be a Tim Duncan year. Right, this is

gonna be guess we're gonna Kobe's gonna win it. Two
thousand and eight, Let's finally get one to Kobe Bryant.
Like those, it's just not the award that people want
to argue and fight about. And that's why I felt
that SGA his award. Oklahoma sas got the best record,
He's had a magnificent season, he's in line to do it,
just like other players in the past have been in

line to get it.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Oh definitely. But again going back to that, is it
the fact that he averaged over thirty points? Because again,
if that's the case, then Jordan should have won. What's
the criteria? I always say this, like with the goat conversation,
what is the criteria? What criteria you guys using for
this MVP award? And they don't have it? And B
one MVP we already knew and B was gonna win because.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
Way before the award, way.

Speaker 2 (23:31):
Before during the season, They're like, there's no way they
can vote for Joker again to win.

Speaker 4 (23:37):
You know.

It's like, wait a minute, so you already making your
decision before the season ends. So to me, it's absurd
how they come up with this. But again, there's no
criteria to speak of to say, Okay, these are the barometers. Okay, points, rebounds,
your value, your value to the team, whatever it is.

Speaker 1 (23:56):
You know, I don't think.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
So there was a stat I looked at earlier today,
Dwayne Wade versus Shay Gilders Alexander. Dwayne Wade finished third
in MVP the year. I'm referencing, but it's in line
with Shay's this year, but Dwayne Wade's and Dwayne had

more rebounds, more steals. But I'm like, wait a minute,
that makes no sense. So what are we using as
the barometer? I think that we are using exactly what
I said. It is a cosmetic award to help promote
the NBA and be given to the player, where then

there add some prestige and some recognition to that player
and that team.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
Tell you what, I would bet a lot of money
that Shay Gilders Alexander will not win it next year. No,
like right, Like Jokic has been in the conversation and
is one three of the list. Well now five. I
was about to say four, but three of the last
five because his numbers were undeniable and there wasn't somebody
that fit the suit of thirty points a game. Team

was best in the NBA and on the rise. And
also it feels like there's this happy medium spot. Guys
aren't winning MVPs at twenty two, they aren't winning them
at twenty three. They're winning them at twenty five, twenty seven.
The last thirty year old to win an MVP was
Steve Nash when he's thirty one years old. The last
thirty year old prior to that win the MVP was

Karl Malone when who's thirty five years old. So this
is the late nineteen nineties, so it's been an award.
None of the names are all popular. Steph. You know,
Steph's career has been amazing. Steph wins his MVPs during
Great Championship seasons, seventy three wins season when he's twenty six,
when he's twenty seven, when he's averaging thirty two and

thirty four points per game. It is all fitting the suits.
And that's where I just think, don't be mad over
SGA getting it. Understand what he got because it's not
the award that people want it to be.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Well, I'm not gonna critique him. He wins it because
that's the vote, and I totally agree with you. Whatever
the NBA wants, the NBA gets. If I want to
promote this guy, maybe it's like, hey, you know what
this is payment for you guys doing ABC and D
I don't know.

I don't care.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
You got the number one record, fine, but going back
to Steve Nash, I will tell you this that should
have been an indicator, okay, as to what this MVP
award really was, because that's the lowest branch ever for
an MVP. The fact that he won the MVP what
I's averaging twenty points is the most absurd thing I've
ever seen in my life, and so to me, that

should have told us everything we need to needed to
know about the MVP award and those who vote for it.
It's absurd. We'll get rid of it.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
When Nash won, he had fifteen points the first time
around and eighty point eight the second time. I can
see the disgust in your face. You can't see it
on radio, but I mean the look and reading that's sad.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
I love Steve. I've known Steve since Santa Clara days.
I love him to death. But he was not the
MVP neither one of those years Steph wanted averaging just
under twenty four points per game. I gave him a
higher point totals. He had thirty in the he averaged
thirty per game in the year when they won seventy
three games. To that point, it's been thirty one points
per game, twenty eight points per game, twenty nine points

per game. You'll catch had twenty six, ten and eight
in the year that he wanted twenty six, twelve and
nine when he won it last year. But then there's
I mean those numbers like is if SGA would have
averaged because he averaged thirty two points a game this year,
if he would have averaged twenty four points a game,
he does not win the MVP. If he averaged twenty seven,
he's probably in the conversation. Since he was above thirty,
he wins it. That's how I end up looking at

it again. You take Steph off the Warriors, Yep, they'll trash.
I get it, Joker trash. You take SGA off the
Oklahoma See Thunder and they can still win. And to me,
how are you valuable?
