Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Welcome in everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday Aaron Sores,
Olden Polonies broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
Jason Martin is not out tonight. He is actually filling
in for Bernie Fratto following us two am Eastern Time.
(00:24):
So for the next three hours, old In Polonies is
in studio.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
My man, you excited.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
I am so excited. Man. This is fun. It's gotta
be fun. Great day in sports. I'm looking forward to it.
Let's do this.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
I mean, listen, I was texting you at the crack
of dawn. You're giving me French Open up dates. You
went to golf and here we are. We got an
NBA finals. But yeah, you've been You've been locked in,
ready to go. I text you I think about eight
eight o'clock Pacific time today and so, uh I.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
Was already up two three hours.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yeah, how was a French Open early? Well, we got
a lot of basketball. The French Open was good.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
French Open was good. I watched the cinematch and that
was I mean, he lost three games. I was like, oh, okay,
this is gonna be no bueno.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
I was talking to Chris Plank, who is the voice
of Oklahoma women's softball.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
He does great job he hosts here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
But I was filling in with him, and I said,
this is a fun time of year where you know,
you get a little college baseball, you get a little
college softball. I'm not a huge tennis guy, but Roland
Garros is a is a bucket list thing for me
that I do want to get to someday. So we'll
save the tennis takes for you know, hour four, hour
five of our show here, but probably should focus on
what happened in Indianapolis. The SEGA just told us the
(01:42):
game went final just moments ago. Game six, Eastern Conference Finals,
Indiana Pacers final score one twenty five, one oh eight.
Pascal Siakup thirty one points, Tyrese Haliburton twenty one points,
thirteen assists. The Indiana Pacers headed to the NBA Finals.
(02:02):
Your first reaction to Game six, which just went final
moments ago, inevitable?
Speaker 4 (02:07):
Inevitable? Yeah, because this series was lost in Game one
when of fourteen two minutes, forty seconds and you lose
the New York Knicks. And once that happened, it didn't
matter what was gonna go on because they lost home
court in Indiana. That game Bridge Arena is insane. Those
(02:30):
fans are rabid, and so to me it was it
was just a matter of time. You know, I thought
the Knicks could pull it off somehow, but too many turnovers,
Thibodeau's lack of in game adjustments, He waited so long
to play shamre it, sham it, and I mean passions
of tu didn't even get in today. So it's just
(02:51):
I don't like it. I didn't like it for the Knicks.
You know, I thought they were not gonna win based
on that alone, just the fact that Thibodeau was not
able to make in game adjustments, post game adjustments. You know,
your team was exhausted and all because he plays these
guys forty forty five minutes doing the regular season, well
regular season.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
But I go back to whatever it was, game six,
I think against Boston. Do you remember Jalen Brunson is
on the bench two or three times going to him saying, bro,
I forget who was even on the court, but it
was like, please take these guys out, and he finally
did it.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Let's start because we got three hours here let's start.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
With Indiana, you know, as somebody who played as somebody
who knows this sport so well, Like what stands out
to you about them? I know that Tyrese Haliburton has
kind of emerged into a star. You know, this is
the stage that they were on this time last year.
Haliburton goes to the Olympics, and really I thought sort
of had a breakout playoffs over these last couple of weeks,
but just watching them, I mean again, Siakam was actually
(03:50):
named the Eastern Conference Finals Most Outstanding Player, most Valuable Player,
which I think might surprise some people.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
But Niesmith was the hero in game one. Nem Hard
had some games.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
It just feels and I don't want to do like
the cliche thing, but I do feel this. It feels
like a sum is greater than the parts team kind
of Tyres Aliburn's the star, but it feels like there's
different guys that could beat out any given night.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Oh definitely, And that's one of the things I like
about him. Number One, they have a championship coach. We'll
call on my former college teammate, so I know he
knows how to coach. And they had the advantage there.
Halliburton's a star is the star of the team. Of course,
the main guy Olympian didn't play a lot, but he's
still an Olympian All Star. But the key to the
(04:36):
Indiana Paces is everybody else because all those guys have
a chip on their shoulders, every last one from Nemhar
the Shepherd, to McConnell to Obi Toppin whoever. It's like
they all have a chip and they play with that
chip on their shoulder. They pick you up full court.
They were just it'ssessant with this pressure defense that they
(04:59):
put on you. They just frustrated the crap out the Knicks.
They play a college style of basketball to me, you know,
mixed with a little bit of eighties nineties old school basketball,
you know, the mid range. When they open for the three,
they take it, you know. But it's just they win
because of defense and that damn pace. The key thing
(05:20):
to me and was this. The Knicks had five possessions
where they scored a basket, whether it was a layup
of a jump shot, and the Paces ended up scoring
a jump shot, I mean scoring layups after a mad
field goal. That's insane to me. In a game six elimination.
You are allowed. You can allow one, maybe two, but
(05:42):
not five to six.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Wow, I didn't even see that.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
I didn't even see it, especially if Timms is supposed
to be known as a defensive guy.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Yeah, it's funny because I hadn't really thought about it.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
That's a fallacy, by the way.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Well we got, well we got on the other side.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
We're gonna talk next because I'm curious if changes need
to be made, we can discussed that. It's funny with
the with the chip on their shoulder thing because I
hadn't really thought about it.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
But if you look at this team.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Outside of probably Halliburton, maybe Miles Turner who was an
early pick, all these other guys you know, uh Siakam
was late first round pick, Andrew Nemhard was a second
round pick. Niesmith, I I guess he was drafted earlier
than I thought. I thought he was like a late
first round pick. I hadn't really thought of it like that.
(06:29):
But it is interesting. And I'm not somebody that, like,
you know, I you know, star players come from from
all over. Jokic was the forty first pick whatever, But
I do think there is something too, Like I'd look
at that Reggie Miller actually handed out the Eastern Conference
Finals trophy. He was, of course calling the game for TNT.
That's pretty cool, but it is interesting. I hadn't really
(06:49):
thought about that. Obi top and a four year college player.
There aren't really those guys that were, you know, anointed early.
You know, Anthony Edwards first overall pick, Jason Tatum anointed
from the time he was probably fifteen sixteen years old. Obviously,
some of the older guys lebron kd whatever, hadn't really
thought about that. But there really are a lot of guys.
Even even Hallibert, nobody knew who he was coming out
of high school, played at Iowa State for two years,
(07:11):
ends up being a lottery pick, but hadn't really thought
of that. Is that a lot of chip on their
shoulder kind of guys.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
Well, it's based off of how they promoted. And that's
the problem the NBA has they focused on. Okay, and
I know we're gonna talk about it later on, but
I have done it.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Now, let's do it.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
Let's do it. If you promote the Lakers, Lakers, Lauius, Larriors, Sons, Boston,
that's all we gonna want because that's what you're programming
people instead of promoting everybody. I've been saying this since
I played. It's like we matter too. And that's why
I say the chip on the shoulders. These guys are
(07:49):
not getting notoriety and the recognition for what they're doing.
And so to me, that's a slap in the face,
and guys tend to take that personally, and that's what
they've done. That Smith, you know, he made those shots,
but it's like nobody talks about him and people forget
he was the fourteenth pick in the draft. See Iakom
was basically shipped away from the Toronto Raptors. And that's
(08:14):
a chip on my shoulder. Miles Turner top five pick,
but it's like, who talks about Miles Turner? Nobody? Chip
on my shoulder? Obie top and the Knicks got rid
of me. You don't think he had a bone to
pick with the Knicks. He was really pumped up. So
that's what I mean by that. These guys, you know,
they're giving them reasons to do what they do. And
(08:37):
so I love watching it. I love good basketball, and
I'm telling you right now, Indiana and okay, see is
gonna be good, good, good basketball.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
So you don't think it's going to be a quote
unquote boring NBA Finals because there's no up.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
Two highest scoring teams, the two most fast break teams.
Are you insane? People are in I've been hearing that
and I'm saying to myself, are y'all not watching? See?
And that's people that don't know basketball. I want that
two teams that play defense, yeah, and two teams that
run fast breaking basketball. It's the Ultimate Finals. This is
(09:19):
exactly what you want. I don't want to slow drag
them out. If the Knicks had one, it would have
been one of the worst finals ever. Okay, see would
have random, it would have been a sweep. They would
have ran them into the ground.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Before the end of the show, maybe we'll play the
sound of JJ Reddick telling me that I don't know
anything about the NBA and that it's impossible to play
defense in the NBA, and that really exists. He called
me out on social media, actually called me out on
his podcast when he had Kevin Durant about four years ago,
because because I said something about NBA defense and he
basically said that it's impossible for NBA teams to hold
(09:56):
teams in the eighties and nineties and scoring, and I
I missed. I don't know what time his team was
playing today. I missed that game, so that might have
been earlier when his team was playing, but neither here
nor there so.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Played that one.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Yeah, he might have been playing golf at one because
there was no basketball to be played for the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
And uh yeah, no.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
I think we got so much time to discuss all
of this because I actually want to dive into exactly
what you said about the promotion of the league because
I am somebody that you know. I'm a basketball person
and you know, and this is something we talk about
in this time slot constantly because we are always on
after those big Saturday night games, and it feels like
every week it's the Lakers. Every week it's the Celtics,
(10:35):
every week it's the Knicks, and it doesn't feel like
the league does a good enough job of promoting these teams.
And now here we have it. Indiana Pacers are headed
to the NBA Finals. They beat Oklahoma or excuse me,
they beat the New York Knicks in Game six, one, five,
one oh eight. Tell you what, Olden, what we'll do,
We'll come back. I do want to get your takes
on the Knicks because he had some very interesting things
(10:57):
to say about Tom Thibodeau.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
And this is a team that has now fallen short.
As you said, they were tired. And do things have
to change for the Knicks as they are headed home
on one round short of the NBA Finals.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
By the way, we'll.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Talk about if they may be over celebrated a little
bit outside of Madison Square guarded after beating the Celtics.
We'll discuss all that next. Olden polonies In for Jason Martin.

what's the old saying for every action there's an equal
and opposite reaction.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
I think that's uh, Sir Isac Newton. Maybe I don't know,
but you know, we celebrate the Pacers win.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
But to your point, you know everybody's gonna want to
default to the New York Knicks, big market. Oh my goodness,
they made the Eastern coff First of all, let me
ask you this because I didn't have a problem. If
you remember after they beat the Celtics in the Conference semifinals.
This was, of course, probably about what ten days or
so ago. I think it was actually two weeks ago yesterday.
(12:40):
It was a Friday night. They beat the Celtics at home,
and you would have thought they won the championship. It
was obviously their first trip to the Eastern Conference finals
since two thousand. I want to talk about tonight and
I want to talk about going forward. But did you
have any problem? Because I've worked with some people that
didn't care, and some people were like.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Why are you celebrating second round win? Get over yourselves?
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Did you care that Knicks fans were going crazy after
beating the Celtics in round two?
Speaker 4 (13:07):
I don't care what the fans do. They're not playing, sure,
that's I think based on the playoffs. What do they do?
Do they go out and get drunk and pop champagne? No? Wait,
you're happy that you advance and that's it. But the fans,
they can do what the hell they want to do.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
All right, Well, speaking of those fans and speaking of
the Knicks, Pacers do take care of business for people
just joining us. The Pacers have advanced to the NBA Finals.
They beat the Knicks one to twenty five, one oh
eight in Game six in Indianapolis.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
And we talked a little bit about the Pacers.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
We'll talk a little bit more about them being disrespected
all of that, but I do want to ask you
this is that the New York Knicks obviously another fifty
win regular season for them, a second straight year where
they make a nice little run in the NBA playoffs,
but also last year, of course, they lose in the
second round because of injuries to guys like Jalen Brunson
(14:00):
and you know, et cetera, et cetera. This year they
get to the Eastern Conference Finals. But to the point
you made earlier, felt like they really ran out of gas.
And certainly I think they were kind of broken after
that that loss in Game one, in which, as you
said earlier, what was it a fourteen point lead with
two forty five to go? And so I just ask you,
Knicks haven't made it this far in a quarter of
(14:21):
a century. When you see them lose in the manner
that they did a six game series, it felt just
about over. Like you said, once Game one went finals. Certainly,
once you lose the first two at home, is this
a situation where you feel like they have to make
any sort of big change. Do you run it back
with the same team, Do you run it back with
(14:42):
the same coaching staff? Just your thoughts on the Knicks,
who obviously fall short of the NBA Finals.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
Well, the Knicks fell to their own demise because of
how Thibodeaux coached. I mean, it was done at their
own hands. It's like you wo your players out. And
I said it countless times on air, you cannot expect
these guys to play forty plus mins. You gotta remember something.
(15:09):
The Knicks had the top five like usage in the
NBA like combinations. Whether it was Brunting bridges, hard Adoobe bridges,
it didn't matter, whatever iteration you want, they had the
(15:30):
top five numbers. And so to me, you wore these
guys out. And I kept saying, what was gonna kill
the Knicks is fatigue, and it's exactly what killed him.
And the fact that Thibodaux never took the time to
just say, hey, oh you know what, I gotta go
against the grain here a little bit. I know I
(15:50):
want to play these guys all these minutes, but I
need to get somebody, some fresh legs. Indiana knew that.
Rick Klar knew that. That's why why they picked up
full court. They warm out man Brunson. I mean, he
had a great game five, but tonight it was just
(16:10):
like they were in him. Them heart was all in him.
And when he spun, and they knew exactly some teams
know how to scout, some coaches know how to scout.
Some coaching staffs know how to scout. And that's what
Indiana did. They knew Brunson likes to, you know, turn
his back a lot. And that's why they kept running
(16:33):
a secondary guy out him, and it just made him.
You know, he got confused. They had more unforced turnovers
than was allowed in basketball. And so to me, all
those things came to become a big part of it
only because of fatigue. They were tired. Play more players.
(16:53):
These guys are NBA players, getting money, they have contracts.
Play them. I don't care if it's two minutes, get him,
you know, a two minute break over here, call in town.
Need to go back and work on his defense. You
mentioned that Thibodeau is a defensive guy. I'm doubting that
tremendously because the Knicks defense looked like trash.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
By the way, I didn't know you were a college
teammate of Rick Carlo.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
I mean, yes, feel free to let him know the
phone lines are open if he wants to call in
and chat a little bit. You know, he's got an
open form here for the next two and a half
hours with Thibodeau. Let me ask you this because because
you were in the league for a long time with
somebody like Thibodeaux. Now, he has obviously had a great
deal of success as a head coach.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
But he is also the same thing is his constant downfall.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Why did that bulls run and way faster than it
should have It's because you're playing Derek Rose. So many
freaking minutes, Joe Kim Noah, so many freaking minutes, on
and on. Is that something that at this point, now
you know, he's now a guy that's in his uh
like late sixties, So I think I probably know the
answer to this, But is is that something somebody can
(18:04):
talk some sense? Go ahead, I see you shaking your
head where for people who cannot see you, which is
just me and Steve de Seger, I said, can somebody
talk him out of that? You're shaking your head like
you want to just you know, grab them by the shoulders.
But what do you think when I asked that question?
Speaker 4 (18:20):
Stuck on? Stupid these old guys. And that's the one
thing I don't like. You have to be able to
make adjustments. You have to be able to look at
what's going on and say, hey, this is twenty twenty five.
These young cats, this generation, they move differently, So I
have to coach accordingly. I can't coach like I did
(18:42):
in the nineties and the two thousand to twenty tens
whatever it was. I have to be different. That's why
a lot of collar coaches are leaving the game. Oh yeah, yeah, honey,
because it's like, hey, I'm good, I can't deal with
this anymore. They being honest about it, because these young
cats are coming in a different mindset. And so I'm
not saying you gotta be the you know rah rah
(19:07):
all the time or not be that way. You just
have to know how to make adjustments based on who
you have on your team. The knicks are good. They're
not great, they're good, and so you have to coach accordingly.
And to me, he didn't do that because they defense sucked.
(19:28):
They they were fatigued. As I keep saying, the turnovers
killed him, and he just allowed it to happen. You know,
It's like, dude, if a guy is messing up, I
don't care if it is Jalen Brunson. You turn the
ball over Jalen Brunson. Is he might he's not six
feet he might be five to ten. I see double
(19:51):
teams coming at him incessantly like that. I gotta make
an adjustment. I got to bring in a bigger guard,
or I gotta get him off the ball, get somebody
else bringing the ball. Do something different. Indiana knew all
of this, but the Knicks never made the adjustments.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Yeah, there was some.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
I mean it took until Game three for him to
actually change the starting lineup when whatever the stat was,
like the plus minus was the worst in the NBA
or so I forget the whatever. But yeah, I know
that to me is the crazy part. So let me
let me ask you this. Do you think that basically
we know Tom Thibodeau isn't gonna change.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
Do you think that.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
This group has reached its ceiling under Tom Thibodeau And
if Olden Poulnice was GM or owner of the Knicks,
would you consider a change or do you feel like
this is Listen, he did make the Eastern Conference finals.
This is the farthest we've been in twenty five years.
I don't know, I just I think it's I think
it's an interesting conversation because I think the default is
always when you have a season like this, you couldn't
(20:50):
or shouldn't.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
But I also think the opposite is true as well,
which is it?
Speaker 2 (20:54):
It kind of feels like this is kind of and
I think with the Knicks too, And I know that
you said to me that you like the Knicks against
the Celtics. But I just bring it up because I
don't think they're really very close to as you said. Okay, see,
you know the Celtics series, maybe they end up winning.
They probably end up winning without Tatum, but let's be honest.
(21:16):
The Celtics had a twenty point lead in Game one
in Game two, and that series could have been different.
The only point I'm trying to make I think people
would sit there and say that it feels ridiculous to
even consider the possibility of making a change. I don't
feel like it does. Given the way the season ended,
and given the way nothing is going to change if
you bring them back.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
I'll put it this way. Take Karl Anthony Towns out
the equation right now, leave Dante di Vincenzo and Julius Randall,
and also bring back Hartenstein and the Knicks get to
the finals. Knicks get to the finals with the team
that they just played against. They get to find because
Hartenstein his energy, it was key and he's not call antytown.
(22:01):
We'll score basket, but he'll give up two three points. Sure,
It's like, what's the point of having him on the
court if he's not playing defense and I'm talking about
the Pacers got easy shot, easy three pointer is wide open.
Three point is floaters by Halliburton, floaters by everybody coming
(22:22):
down the middle. I'm like, dude, at some point in time,
you got a man up. If he's not gonna play defense,
I have enough offense. He and Jail and Brentson are similar,
just different size, but they are offensively, they just alike,
and so to me, I can't have both of them
on the floor at the same time because I'm gonna
(22:42):
struggle defensively.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
In the Pacers' four wins this series, admittedly the first
game was an overtime win, but in the four games
this series, they scored at least one hundred and fourteen
points in all of their wins. They topped one hundred
and twenty five in three of the four wins. Fox
Sports radio eratrres Old polonies in for Jason Martin. By
the way, on Inside the NBA, they're doing the official
(23:04):
Gone Fishing, but for Inside the NBA. So maybe we'll
talk a little bit about that sometime down the road
the final night of Inside the NBA. But before we
do that, two things, well, we gotta get to Saga two.
I also want your takes on what you just said
about the way the league markets these teams. As we're
headed for an Indy OKC final. We'll discuss that next.
First of all, let's get over the news desk to Sager.
(23:26):
What is try to it's.
Speaker 6 (23:27):
The final night in its current form. I'm sure on
TNT for those guys together, because I mean, nobody thinks
that ESPN will ever give them the kind of time
we're talk skame it gives them.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
Do your update, and we're going to have this conversation
right now because I think all three of us have
strong opinions about that, and you're welcome to hop in
and join the conversation.
Speaker 6 (23:47):
Two items to pass along that I did not realize
one here after On Fox tonight, the Dodgers whipped the
Yankees and then in the Indiana Pacers with the strong
third quarter put away the Knicks. So Statsing points out
New York Cities, the first metro area ever to have
a Major League Baseball team and an NBA team on
the same day, each lose by fifteen or more. Wow,
(24:08):
because you see the Yas lost eighteen to two at
Dodger Stadium and the Pacers went over the Knicks was
one twenty five to one oh eight. Pascal Siakam thirty
one points and it was a narrow vote, but Siakam
get series MVP and the stat I love the most
so far. Tonight our finals matchup starting next week is
(24:29):
between the last two teams to trade Paul George. Yep,
congratulations to the Pacers and the Thunder. Indiana had drafted
Paul George first round twenty ten and in the summer
of twenty seventeen traded him to Oklahoma City and famously,
a couple of years later, OKC traded him.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
July fifth, twenty nineteen, my wedding night. It was in
the middle of my freaking wedding. It was unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
Little did we know at.
Speaker 6 (24:56):
The time how huge a deal that would be, because
it was well, pretty much one guy Paul George to
the Clippers for fifty two draft choices, one of which
was Jalen Williams.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
And Chagos Alder guy.
Speaker 6 (25:11):
I think it was eight first rounders and Shake Kilges Alexander.
How did that turn out? Goodness? One w NBA game
tonight Chicago, which was one and four, got to win
at Dallas, which is now one and six ninety four
to eighty three. A reminder in hockey, the Stanley Cup
Final starts Wednesday, Florida at Edmonton. I mentioned the Dodgers
beat the Yankees eighteen to two. Aaron Judge had the
(25:33):
two two long balls. In fact, he had three hits.
He's batting three ninety eight and he has twenty one
home runs this year. At Seattle, cow Raley of the
Mariners with his twenty second home run and Seattle won
in eleven innings over Minnesota five to four. The Pirates
are leading at San Diego four nothing in the top
of the seventh, and the Washington Nationals led ten to
(25:54):
nothing in the top of the first at Arizona. This
is the late game on FS one. The starting pitcher
for the Dimes, Brandon Fought, did not get an out
in the first inning. Nationals Now lead eleven to two
at Arizona in the top of the fifth. The Mets
and Phillies are now tied for first in the NLAs
Mets beat Colorado eight two. Phillies lost at home. In fact,
they were down seventeen to two in the ninth inning
(26:16):
seventeen to seven Brewers the final. Milwaukee's won six in
a row that Mets went over Colorado.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
As I mentioned on the show before us, there just is.
Speaker 6 (26:24):
No bottom to how bad the Colorado Rocky season is going.
They've lost seven in a row, they only had three
hits today. They've played thirty road games, they have three
road wins in the first two months of the season,
three and twenty seven, and the overall record nine and
forty nine.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Back to you, Thank you very much, Steve the Singer,
Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday, Aaron Torres, Olden Polonies
in for Jason Martin.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
All right, let's do the conversation right now.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
So Inside the NBA is signing off for the last
time on TNT, So essentially, I think everybody knows, but
TNT's contract is out with the NBA. With the Eastern
Conference Finals over, the finals will go exclusively to ESPN ABC.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
All that.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
I bring it up because this is the final iteration
of Inside the NBA as we know it. As Desager said,
they are going to ESPN. But I thought of this
topic the other day after the Western Conference Finals clinching game,
I think it was Game five. It was OKC in Minnesota.
(27:35):
ESPN does the trophy presentation immediately throws to Sports Center
and within about eight minutes they were on the hockey highlights.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Now they went back to basketball.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
I bring it up because it was at that exact
moment that I realized, I don't care how good Kenny is.
I don't care how good Chuck is. I don't care
how good Shack is. I don't care how much they're
paying them, because I think everybody knows.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
But inside the NBA is going to ESPN.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
I think ESPN is about to screw up the best
postgame show that we've ever seen. To say, we'll bring
you in a second. But Olden, do you have any
strong I'm sure you know these guys.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
Well.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
Kenny Smith, by the way, did say something about like
a week ago, like, yeah, we don't know what the
show is going to look like, which probably is not
a good sign.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
But what are your thoughts holding.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
Oh, it's definitely gonna change because some of the stuff
that they were allowed to do and able to do
on TNT, they're not gonna be allowed to do on
ABC because it's a Disney company, and so that's gonna
take a hit. You know, they definitely pushed the line.
They crossed it a lot. Of times and again, like
I said, I don't know. And they also got the
(28:40):
whole isn't the NBA also NBC, you know they coming
back as well. So it's like people are gonna be
all confused.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
It's like over here on Amazon, they're not gonna be yea.
Speaker 4 (28:51):
So it's hey, they went and got the money, they
got the bag, but it's gonna be a lot very confusing.
And the reason why I think this hurts so many
people is because this was our constant. Oh yeah, you know,
we knew Ernie was gonna be this, Charles, Kenny and Shaq,
this was a constant for us. So it's really sad
(29:14):
and bittersweet. I'm glad that they're still gonna be a
part of it on ABC, I mean on ESPN, but
I think TNT should have just, you know, coughed up
some money.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
Yeah, real quick to Seger. This was Kenny Smith told
us to The New Yorker. We have the same crew
of people doing the show, but the timing question mark
are we a half hour now? Are we forty five minutes?
Are we fifteen minutes? Those are the things that you
can control when you own your IP, but we don't.
That was the only part that made me uncomfortable and
disheartened because I felt like that the four of us
should have went to eat ABC to negotiate that deal.
(29:50):
I'm not saying that our executives don't know how to
do that, but we are the IP now. Ultimately, it's
a classic show like Seinfoldfeld. So will it translate? And
I think, to me, that's the big question is I
don't know exactly how the postgame production works, but it
seems like they turn on the mics and they say, guys,
talk as long as you have something to say, and
if that's twenty five minutes, if that's an hour and
(30:12):
twenty five minutes, take your time.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
And that's clearly not gonna be the case the ESPAG.
Speaker 6 (30:16):
It's like it's a college radio program or your first
job in radio where the clock doesn't matter, and that's
not going to be the case over there. And part
of the reason is just because ESPN has other properties,
like you mentioned, they are invested literally not figuratively, into
the NHL. They need to show NHL highlights and that's
going to screw up this type of NBA show. They
(30:37):
also already have a ton of personalities and egos over there,
and they're bringing in the Kings currently if you look
at the Sports Emmys of this type of thing. So
is there going to be room for that as a
viewer of sports television? I just hope and I can't
imagine it won't improve the halftime show of ESPN's NBA presentation,
(30:58):
which has been a colossal waste of time for a
long time.
Speaker 7 (31:02):
Now.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Yeah, I'm worried by the way it looks like Ernie
Johnson is tearing up for people who are not in front.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
Of a TV. He just dropped to Mike literally wow. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
So this is the final iteration of Inside the NBA
on TNT.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
The four of them are moving.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
To ESPN and ABC next year. But as Kenny Smith
told The New Yorker, we don't know the timing. Are
we half an hour? Are we forty five minutes? Are
we fifteen minutes? I worry best postgame show clearly by
a mile in sports, And I don't think we know
what we're expecting anything else to add Olden.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
Yeah, my favorite line that I always use. It's hard
for me to be worrying about millionaires and billionaires. Dude,
I really don't give a damn.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
But it's not about the millionaires and billionaires though. It's
about the fans, and it's about the consent.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
Is that about you think ESPN cares about fans, Well, no,
that's a whole different conversation. Nobody cares about the fans.
Technically they don't, because if they did, we wouldn't have
this next discussion about ratings. They would just show up
regardless of what two teams are playing. They would just
(32:13):
show up for all these things, so that no one,
None of these people care about fans. Once they half
day money, they don't really care well.
Speaker 6 (32:22):
And that was evidence with the NFL last year when
they could flex not only Sunday games but now Thursday.
So people who bought a Thursday night ticket for a
five o'clock game with Chargers Broncos were told only a
week or two before the game. Yep, by the way,
you thought this was a weekend game originally, when you're
gonna take your family on a Sunday afternoon, now it's
(32:43):
a work night at five o'clock next to lax.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Good luck, yeah, good luck yeah.
Speaker 7 (32:47):
Now.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
The only thing I would say is maybe Turner didn't
really care about the fans, but they at least had
the wherewithal to not screw it up. And I think
it's inevitable that that ESPN and ABC will so Fox
Sports Radio erators ol, the politicies will come back exactly
what you just said, Olden. NBA Finals are set. Big
question is anybody gonna watch. We'll discuss that next Fox
(33:08):
Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (33:11):
Yeah, real fans, trust me. Indiana watching, Oklahoma City.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
Watching, Welcome back everybody.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
Fox Sports Radio, Aeron Torres, Olden polonies in for Jason Martin.
Jason Martin again, in for Bernie Fratto two Am Eastern.
He'll follow us. Oh, then, I thought you brought up
a great point earlier. So NBA Finals is set, Indiana
Pacers will take on the OKC thunder, And I think
there's two different conversations that both can be true. I
(33:45):
don't think the ratings are gonna be very good. I
don't know if you know you and I don't work
in the programming department at ABC, so I don't know
that we should care. But I thought you brought up
the best point, which is the NBA, because of how
they have marketed this league, have no one to blame
(34:05):
but themselves if the ratings are not good. So I'm
gonna give you the floor as to just your general
thoughts on what will likely be a low rated NBA Finals,
even if the basketball is going.
Speaker 4 (34:16):
To be really good, Man, it's gonna be low rated
because we're putting it out there in the universe. But
also the fact that they haven't done a good job
of promoting teams since I was in the league. You know,
it was back then, it was Jordan, Jordan, Jordan. You know,
it was specific teams and specific players. So they've continued
(34:38):
using that formula. But there's a big, big difference, you know,
to why I'm not believing it's gonna happen, And that's
because we've grown. Back in the eighties and nineties, Yeah,
you talked about big markets, small markets and all that.
We didn't have social media, we didn't have internet and
(34:58):
all that. Now this game has gone global because anybody
can pick up their phone and turn on a game.
And so to me, I don't think. I don't believe
there's such a thing anymore as big market small market.
It's like what can I see with my own two eyes?
So Oklahoma City has the MVP and Shay Gilgers Alexander.
(35:23):
They have a young team, very talented, very fun to
watch that pick up full court. Indiana has a young,
very talented team with an Olympian and an All Star
and a champion in Pascal Siakam, and they play full
court defense and they love to run. One ten, one
(35:45):
twenty is nothing for either one of these two teams.
And so to me, that's what you want as a league.
You want the two best teams. I'm not saying that
Indiana is the best team out of the East, but
they the best team right now for the finals. Because again,
if the Knicks had won this series, it would have
been a sweep. Oklahoma City would have just ran right
(36:08):
through the Knicks because they exhausted. I believe that it's
going to be a great matchup. And you have history,
you know, and the fact that Olahoma City franchise in Indiana,
Indiana Indiana Paces franchise, neither one has won NBA championship,
and so that history will be made. You also have
(36:31):
historically the Indiana Pacers who started in the ABA. Yep,
so there's so many storylines. You have former Seattle Supersonic
team now you know, Okay, see and so to me,
there's so much history that can be played, so the storylines,
there's gonna be great storylines all the way around, and
you just got to find it and promote it, you know.
(36:53):
And if the NBA is willing to do that, like
they've done with so many other teams, then you're gonna
have a great product out there.
Speaker 7 (37:01):
But I believe, as far as basketball, this is the
two best teams. So I think it's gonna be a
great series. I don't think people are gonna watch, and
I do think the NBA is to blame and no,
and it's just you know, it goes back. I think
I mentioned this, but but Jason Martin and I talk
about this all the time.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
In the time slot. I remember it must have been
back in February. It was either the I think it
was the first Saturday night after the Super Bowl. The
game that they played in ABC primetime was Warriors Lakers.
And I said right there, I said, listen, I get
(37:38):
that Steph and Lebron are the two biggest stars in
this league still, but how long are you going to
try to just ride this wave until you acknowledge that
these guys have moved on? And I think the most
frustrating part for me as a basketball person as well.
There's so many young stars, There's so much great talent
in this league, and it's it's like, why are we
(38:01):
still on Lebron and Steph? Can we like and it's not.
You know, Shay's great, Jokic is great. I got a
little beef for Anthony Edwards which to get into our two,
but he is still an incredible talent. Listen, the Knicks lost,
but they're an awesome story. Jayleen Brunson is an awesome story.
And it just feels like we are just trying so
hard to squeeze every last drop out of this Lakers
(38:22):
Warrior sponge and this is going to be the byproduct
of it.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
If nobody watches these finals.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
You're absolutely right, And that's the problem that the NBA
has faced for so many years. They want to hang
their hats on a couple of franchises. Yeah, in a
couple of players. We say this all the time. It's like,
beginning of the season, we know exactly who's going to
be in the finals. Basically there's only like five six teams,
and it was always those teams with like a Kevin
(38:48):
Durant Lebron Steph and all those guys and back in
the days. So it's the same thing. You have to
expand a little bit. The NBA. NBA, you have to
expand a little bit. Yeah, okay, you have all the
money to promote. Promote these guys, promote Tyrese Halliburton. I
mean that's a great story in itself. Sacramento Kings gets traded,
(39:12):
a throwaway trade and now he's, like I said, Olympian
All Star. There's so many different great stories within this
series and they need to jump on it.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
I don't disagree, and we'll see what happens. Tyrese Haliburton
and the Indiana Pacers are headed to the NBA Finals.
They will take on OKC starting Thursday, Game one in
Oklahoma City. Fox Sports Radio Aaron Torres, Olden Polonies in
for Jason Martin. We're taking up until two am Eastern time.
Plenty more basketball to discuss over the next two hours.
(39:45):
We'll talk a little bit about Anthony Edwards the Minnesota Timberwolves,
but we'll talk about one guy who is definitely not
the face of the league, Zion Williamson.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
We got to discuss.
Speaker 1 (39:54):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Welcome in everybody, hour two Fox Sports Radio, Aaron Torres,
Olden Polonies in for Jason Martin. As I've mentioned a
few times, Jason is in for Bernie frattoletter, so you'll
still get plenty of Jason Martin. Three hours at Jason
Martin starting at two am Eastern time. Olden and I
(40:18):
are taking you up until two am Eastern. All right, Olden,
let's divert a little bit away from the Indiana Pacers.
Pacers are headed to the NBA Finals. They'll face Oklahoma Ceity.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
Game one is.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
On Thursday night. We will revisit that in a little bit,
but I want to get to some other stuff across
the NBA. We're gonna start with a serious topic, and
you know we're gonna you know, I'll frame this carefully,
but there was a pretty big headline on Friday. Zion Williamson,
(40:52):
New Orleans, Pelicans. We all know all about him, but
accused of some very serious crimes. You can read about them,
but i'll just say it, you know, for people driving
around with kids, just maybe turn this down for half
a second. But Zion Williamson is accused of rape, in
addition to sexual, physical, and emotional and emotional abuse by
(41:13):
a woman listed as Jane Doe here in Los Angeles.
We don't have to get into, you know, guilt or innocence.
But I think the bigger conversation is, you know, if
it's gotten this far, it's just another dark cloud under
Zion Williamson and it's it's crazy. You know, I mentioned
this in Hour one, but the night of the Paul
(41:36):
George trade, which was also the night Kawhi Leonards signed,
was July fifth, twenty nineteen. That was the night of
my wedding and my wedding got interrupted. There's pictures of
a bunch of guys just on their phones trying to
get information about the Paul George Kawhi Leonard thing. But
that was also the night of Zion's debut at Summer League,
and that was, you know, really was supposed to be
(41:58):
the start of this incredible thing that has just not
happened Zion at this point, you know, it's now year
he's heading into year six in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (42:10):
Three seasons with thirty games or few were played.
Speaker 2 (42:13):
When he's out in the court, he's good, but he's
also you know, he's been injured a lot and of course,
there are now very serious allegations following him. This is
the second offseason in a row where there are allegations
following him, and so again we don't have to get
into the allegations. But this guy that I think we
all thought was the next It's funny because we're talking
Anthony Edwards here in a minute about the conversation about
(42:35):
Anthony Edwards being the face of the league. But we
thought it was going to be Zion And it is
unbelievable seeing just whatever this is, whatever this thing is
that has become his.
Speaker 4 (42:46):
Career, Oh definitely, and it's rough seeing that. You know,
I don't want to see that for anybody. But at
the same time, I always wonder who do you have
in your camp? You know, who are you speaking with
on a regular Who's got your back? Because this stuff,
you know, regardless, like you said, you know, we're not
(43:06):
dealing with guilt innocence. You know, whether it's true or false.
You know, accusations happen all the time, and now you know,
you gotta let the legal system handle the case. But
at the same time, it's like how you allow yourself
to get into these situations because this is not the
rape allegation is new, but he's been in the news
(43:29):
negatively for so many years. You know, he's had baby
mama drama, he's had all this other stuff going on,
plus the weight issue. And so to me, who's around you.
You come from a good family who's like you got
you have enough money, hire the right people, man, surround
yourself with some good people. If you're not able to
(43:51):
do that, man, it's crazy because I know one thing.
So there's a name that's out there. Whenever I see
that name, I'm like, oh lord, it's trouble. And that
name is Tony Busby.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
I thought you were gonna say that. I really did,
but keep going go ahead.
Speaker 4 (44:07):
Whenever I see Tony Busby, I get a little little
nervous because he's the king of lawsuits. And so I
don't know if it's you know, you said Jane Doe.
But I did see Mariah Mills' name come up, So
I don't know if it's her that's making the accusations.
But Tony Busby's involved, So there's gonna be some money
(44:28):
handed out somewhere.
Speaker 2 (44:29):
Well, it looks like as a follow up to that,
Mariah Mills has contacted lawyer Tony busby about possible lawsuit,
and so I think it sounds like the first alleged
victim has come forward, and so now we have somebody
else that is willing to come forward to maybe corroborate
or ride that train.
Speaker 3 (44:47):
But yeah, it's really interesting.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
I want to ask you old and you know you
mentioned to me during the break, is that you know
you coach a you you kind of saw Zion on
the way up. You know, I cover college basketball, you know,
pretty extensively. I think the crazy thing to me, and
I don't claim to know anybody or whatever, but what's
crazy about the Zion thing is this is that sometimes
(45:12):
like take maybe Anthony Edwards is a good example, Right,
he's in college, but he's not really winning, and he's
that whatever, and so you could see the scenario where
maybe he's individually talented, but is he ready to be
the face of the league whatever. Zion that one year
a duke, it was just so he said all the
right things, he did all the right things. You never
(45:33):
heard about any trouble in any regard with women off
the court, whatever. And I think that's the craziest part
to me is again, these are all allegations. We get it,
but showed up. Remember there was the big controversy about
should he quote unquote shut it down after he got
hurt late in the season, wanted to play again, set
all the right things, did all the right things, was
(45:55):
part of a winning It's just that's the crazy part
to me is maybe I miss something. But to me,
there was no indication that he was going to be
anything other than like a great ambassador for this league.
And now he comes in and it's great.
Speaker 3 (46:10):
He's almost like a.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
Forgotten guy because of the injuries, because of the off
the court stuff.
Speaker 3 (46:16):
It's just wild to me that this is how it's
all unfolded.
Speaker 4 (46:18):
Oh definitely. Sometimes I've been like, damn, he's still playing
exactly right. But I'll tell you this, A lot of
it has to do with upbringing. Like I said, he
comes from a good family, but sometimes that good family
hurts you because they don't prepare you for this life. Sure,
you know, you're surrounded by people, you know. He comes
from a religious background, for what I remember, and so
(46:41):
it's like, Okay, I'm doing this ABC and D. I'm
following these rules and guidelines, but now I'm a professional
with millions of dollars I can stay up late, I
can go out whenever I want. I'm meeting all these
beautiful women. Oh oh, and they're professionals. Trust me on that.
The women, they're pros. They know how to do it.
(47:04):
They know how to talk, they know how to they
know how to make you feel amazing. And he's not
used to that. And that's why I say, who's in
his camp that's got his back saying, hey, ze, I
don't think you need to be doing this. And sometimes,
you know, we gotta save guys from themselves. And right now,
I don't think Zion has anybody.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
So this is not an apples to apples comparison.
Speaker 2 (47:27):
Okay, but we were talking earlier about Tom Thibodeau, and
it's basically like, as a coach, he is who he is.
He's stuck in his ways and it doesn't feel like
anybody can get through to him. Zion is heading into
year six in the NBA, and you could sit there
and say one bad headline after another, but let's put
(47:50):
aside what he's accused of, not put aside, we don't
want to be in consider of the alleged victims, whatever,
But let's assume it's false and he gets past this
and whatever.
Speaker 3 (47:59):
But I guess my question is can somebody at.
Speaker 2 (48:04):
This point get through to him or is it a
thing where yes, he's only twenty four, about to be
twenty five years old in a couple of weeks, but
we've got six years of he doesn't care about his weight,
he doesn't care about being in shape, he's hanging out
with the wrong people, he's dealing with, he's putting himself
in bad situations. So I guess my question is he's
(48:25):
only twenty four, about to be twenty five, But do
you think somebody can get through to him or do
you just think this is a lost cause? And I
think at this point it's like he's never gonna be
what we thought he was gonna be, but he is
still a two time All Star, Like, is there a
pathway to him to get on the right trajectory or
is he just basically a lost cause for lack of
a better term going.
Speaker 4 (48:44):
For It's hard for me to answer that question because
I don't want to say he's a lost cause, but
it's gonna be a it's gonna be hard work for
whoever gets to him, you know, because again, yeah, I
think he's been doing so much on his own, and
it hasn't been good. He's not even gonna see the
(49:05):
good that people are trying to do for him and
help him with. And I think that's the key. But
whether this thing is true or not, it's gonna tell
a lot about them, because if it's not true, then
he needs to like shelter himself moving forward. And if
it is true, he's gonna have to get some good
lawyers and get through this and to make some changes.
(49:29):
So either way, something's gonna happen. Something's gonna have to give.
But right now, I'm just saying you're too good of
a talent, and like I said before, you come from
a good upbringing. Something happened in the last couple of
years that none of us know about, but something has
(49:51):
happened that's changed him.
Speaker 3 (49:53):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (49:54):
And so to me, that's where the change begins for him,
is the fact that we need to figure out bad
did this thing start.
Speaker 2 (50:03):
It'll be interesting to kind of monitor this because again,
one obviously a very serious situation, very serious accusations. To
your point, Tony Buzzby is now involved with maybe somebody
trying to piggyback on this lawsuit. And I just think
the bigger thing is and we can just even keep
up with basketball as we kind of switch gears and
move on to some other stuff. But it's like, I
(50:27):
just think the like the it's just how do I
say this? Is like basically, it's just one bad decision
after the other. And even if this stuff isn't true,
it's like the simple stuff like staying in shape, doing
the right thing, being on it, those are the things
that he just hasn't been able to do since he
got into the league. And this is just one more
negative headline that comes to eye plays.
Speaker 4 (50:49):
Okay, yeah, and I understand that, but I gotta say this,
and I'm never gonna be disrespectful, you know, to anybody
that you know brings up the term rape, you know,
you have to respect it. And I hope you know
when these people make these accusations that they are telling
(51:10):
the truth. But at the same time, the timelines on
a lot of this stuff is what bothers me, you know.
And again, maybe I'm just not a learned individual on
the mentality of a woman to know this, but it's like,
if I'm in a relationship from twenty eighteen to twenty
twenty three and something happened in twenty I'm not gonna
(51:34):
last stay with you them extra three years. You know,
I'm just not But again, I'm not a female, so
I don't know. So it's kind of like it's those
weird things that come up. But again, I'm hoping this
ain't true, and if it is, you gotta deal with
it as a man, you know, and face the consequences.
(51:56):
But again, don't put yourself in these positions. And I
believe he has to get the hell out of New Orleans.
Oh yeah, he has to requests the trade whatever. Just man,
you gotta leave. I'll tell you what, but take take
you about to Utah the so I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (52:19):
I was just in Utah about two weeks ago. I'm
the type of person I like a cole beverage at
the end of every day. It's it's hard to find
one of those, let alone. Uh, you know, pretty much anything.
Speaker 3 (52:28):
So no, it's an.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
Interesting, uh situation, and uh yeah, to your point, you know,
the accusation span over a multi year, multiple year period
of time. But I just think the broader thing is
is that even if the accusations aren't true, it's a
wasted first six years of an NBA career that we
all thought was so promising and I don't understand I.
(52:49):
I don't think there's any easy fix to it. So
Fox Sports Radio er Torres and Olden Polonies in for
Jason Martin, will come back talk about another young NBA
are Anthony Edwards? What did we learn and maybe what
do what?
Speaker 4 (53:04):
You know?
Speaker 2 (53:05):
What do we learn about Anthony Edwards this week? But
what do we need to learn about him going forward?
Because there's some questions after Minnesota loses in the Western
Conference Finals. We'll discuss that next. Fox Sports Radio.

(54:10):
switch gears and I want to talk about a team that.
Speaker 3 (54:14):
Was eliminated earlier.
Speaker 2 (54:14):
So the Knicks were eliminated on Saturday night. I didn't
want to talk Minnesota Timberwolves though, because to me, I'll
say this, I think Anthony Edwards went from wildly underrated
to overrated in a year.
Speaker 3 (54:33):
Now.
Speaker 2 (54:33):
Before we get to yeah, I'll explain why in a second,
But first of all, I do want to play some sound.
After Minnesota was eliminated in Game five of the OKC
Thunder Series Western Conference Finals, Brien Mary could play the sound.
Speaker 8 (54:45):
Thanks exciting. I don't know, I don't know why people
would think it would hurt. I mean, it's exciting for me.
I'm twenty three. I get to do it a whole
bunch of times. I'm hurt more so for myself, for Mike.
I came up short for Mike Like I said, we
tried last year, we couldn't get it. Try to get
this year. I won't try again next year. But hurting
is a terrible word to use.
Speaker 4 (55:05):
I'm good.
Speaker 2 (55:06):
First of all, do you have any problem with that
twenty three years old. He's got many good years we
believe ahead of him. But you would know better than
anybody in this studio how hard it is to get
to a Western conspons man.
Speaker 4 (55:17):
It's rough, But I don't have a problem with it
because he is twenty three, and twenty three year olds
don't win championships. Now, that's the star. They still learning
the game, and that's why you always need veterans, you know,
veterans that keep positions and other good players. So we've
seen it over the last couple of years, you know,
(55:38):
like you know, most recently the Denver Nuggets. You know,
they had Jokic and you know, won the championship and
then all of a sudden, you know, Jamal Murray of
course and all those guys, and they made some trades
from that championship team, and then all of a sudden
we saw a slight decline to where they had to
fire Mike Malone. And so to me, the Minnesota Timberwills
(56:01):
fall into that category. Without a championship. You know, you've
had back to back Western Conference finals and you lost
both of them. Something has to change, and it might
be coaching, because I think you can only listen to
your coach for so many years and then you need
a new voice. And that's one of the things. And
the easiest thing to do for teams is to get
(56:22):
rid of the one instead of the twelve fifteen, which
is the team. You can't do that, so you can
just get rid of the head coach, get a new
voice in, you know, new energy, and see what happens.
But they still need some other stuff as well. But
Anthony Edwards, you know, for lack of a better word, yeah,
you know, he's they trying to make him. I don't
even know who's trying to make them defasically, first of all,
(56:45):
I don't know if it's the NBA, if it's the media.
But it's like that stuff happens. It usually happens organically.
I remember when Magic and Bird they were the faces
of the NBA. Then all of a sudden, that young
fella out of North Carolina came in. You know, through everything,
he just kept putting up thirty points, thirty points, forty
(57:07):
to fifty. He just he became the face of the league.
Speaker 3 (57:11):
By the way, is it true.
Speaker 2 (57:12):
I saw a story where you said something about Michael
and your mom got mad about it.
Speaker 4 (57:16):
Is that true? Man? Yeah, it's true. Okay, what happened?
I just thowts mama. But yeah, so I go ahead.
I foul people, okay, you know when they need it.
So we were playing a game in Chicago and Mike
tried to dunk on me. I'm not allowing that. I
(57:37):
sent him into the bleachers. They throwed me out the game.
So I'm like, okay, you know whatever. And as I'm
leaving Chicago Stadium, I'm getting downst with beer and everything else.
People booh, you stuck. But my mentality was and it
helped me in the long run because players around the
league saw that I could hit Jordan without a care
in the world, say like, oh snap, if he does
(57:58):
that the mic, you imagine what he'll do me. So
I had that going for you. But anyway, every game,
after every game, I would always call home, talk to
my brother, you know, we break down the games and
talk to my mom. She gets on the phone yelling
at me. Wow? What these work with you? Wh Why
you hit Michael like I'm your son? Why are you
(58:19):
mad at me? And she literally was mad at me? Wow.
And it showed me the power of Jordan in that moment.
It didn't matter who was My brother named his son Jordan.
Speaker 7 (58:30):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (58:31):
So it's like I don't know my weird ass family.
There you go. But yeah, so it's you know, the
situation is this Anthony. You know, Mike became a star,
Kobe became a star, Steph Curry, all these guys, they
organically became faces of the league, whether they wanted to
(58:53):
or not. We're trying to force it on Anthony Edwards
and I don't think he's done enough for that regular
season and a couple of Western Conference Finals appearances does
not make you a face of the league. You have
to and I'll tell you why. To me, he's not
the face of the league. According to the NBA. Too
many fines for obscene language, sure, too many. He does
(59:16):
a lot of for lack of a better word. And
I'm gonna say it here and I can say it
because I'm black. Ghetto. Too many ghetto acts and I
hate that what he does. You know, he does. He
yelled some obscendity to a fan one time about how
much money he has and other stuff, and I'm like, dude,
(59:38):
how are you gonna be the Can you imagine Michael
Jordan doing something like that to a fan?
Speaker 2 (59:43):
No, Steph Curry, No, we could criticize Lebron for whatever.
Speaker 4 (59:48):
I mean outside of the stephen A thing. You know,
it's like he's man. He's on the Mott rushmo by
himself as far as off the court of course. So yeah,
so that's what I'm saying. A lot of that is
not playing well. You know, I don't even think he
wants that.
Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
That's what I'm saying. He said he doesn't. He said
give it to Wemby.
Speaker 4 (01:00:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:00:08):
You know, I'll say this and I do think so
my original premise, I do think he went from overrated
or underrated to overrated in a year. And I say
that because if you remember, and I tell j mart
this all the time, but the ascension and I understand,
we live in a media ecosystem where everybody's opinion has
to be stronger than the last one.
Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
So if you remember last year.
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
It went from wow, he's really good to he's the
best young player in the league to maybe he's the
most talented player in the league too.
Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
Is he already the best player in the league.
Speaker 4 (01:00:38):
Two?
Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
Is he the next Michael Jordan? That all happened in
like a five week period.
Speaker 4 (01:00:42):
Two he's Michael Jordan's son.
Speaker 3 (01:00:45):
Yes, that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:00:47):
And so and watching these playoffs, and I think the
immaturity in his behavior and how he speaks to fans whatever,
I think it shows up on the court too, where
there was yeah, where there were so many games where listen,
a credit to the minnesot Timberwolves back to back Western
Conference Finals, best run that they've ever had as a franchise.
But if you really go back and look at it,
(01:01:07):
first of all, the Lakers were an a you know
what show in that opening round. I mean the stat
still blows my mind, seven of forty seven in a
clinching game from three and Minnesota won that series. Okay,
Golden State, how does it go if Steph doesn't get hurt?
And then you go to the OKC series where you know,
(01:01:29):
you look at Ann Edwards stat lines, they're good.
Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
But there is also a little bit left. You know,
he put up a lot of stats late in games
when results were I'll tell you what. Well, I want
to continue the conversation on Anthony Edwards. We'll do that
in just a second. Let's get it over to the
news desk for Steve di Seger and when we can
continue the conversation on Anthony Edwards. Sorry second, I mean fine,
(01:01:53):
throw it right over to you, but go ahead.
Speaker 6 (01:01:55):
Indiana PA series have eliminated New York, and we can
update a stat What would you guess is the winning
percentage of a team in the playoffs when they're up
at home by fifteen points or more going to the
fourth Because Indiana did have a strong third quarter they
had such a league going to the fourth tonight. The answer,
it's an over ninety nine percent winning percentage in the
(01:02:16):
shot clock eras, but.
Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
How many times before today did a baseball and basketball seam.
Speaker 3 (01:02:20):
Lose by fifteen plus?
Speaker 6 (01:02:22):
Never New York congratulations, know the exact including the Pacers.
Speaker 3 (01:02:27):
Win holding on to that lead at home tonight.
Speaker 6 (01:02:31):
It's seven sixty three and six all time. Wow, when
the home playoff team is up fifteen going to the
fourth quarter in the postseason.
Speaker 2 (01:02:40):
Would the Knicks qualify as one of the six that?
I don't know if you know off the top of
your head. But in game one, I don't know if
they were up fifteen.
Speaker 6 (01:02:48):
Fifteen, No, apparently the most recent was two years ago
the Bucks blew such a game at home. But in
Game six the Knicks have been eliminated. Indiana takes the
East Finals. Pacers one twenty five one er eight over
the Knicks. Pascal Siakam thirty one points. Tyrese Haliburton had
twenty one points thirteen assists. NBA Finals start Thursday in
(01:03:09):
Oklahoma City. Stanley Cup Finals start Wednesday, Florida at Edmonton.
As for the late night baseball, the Pirates have just
won five to nothing at San Diego. The Dodgers beat
up the Yankees eighteen to two. Max Munsey two homers
and seven RBIs Now the Nationals were ahead ten to
nothing in the top of the first. In the late
game on FS one at Arizona, the lead is now
(01:03:32):
eleven to seven Washington. In the top of the seventh.
Seattle got cal Raley's twenty second homer of the year
and won in eleven innings over Minnesota five to four.
Mets won Phillies loss, so the Mets and Phills are
now tied for first place in the NL East. In
the WNBA just one game Dallas rookie Page Beckers still
in concussion protocol. Dallas lost at home one in six.
(01:03:55):
Record They lost to Chicago ninety four eighty three.
Speaker 3 (01:03:58):
Chicago was one and four.
Speaker 6 (01:04:00):
Coco Golf won her third round match at the French Open.
Jessica Bagula and Madison Keys each advance on the men's
side Number one. Yanick Center dominated at Novak Djokovic advanced
as well. Scotti Scheffler leads that the Memorial by one
stroke after a third round sixty eight. Paris Sonjerman took
the Champions League final by a record score of five
nothing over Inter Milan. US women's soccer won its exhibition
(01:04:23):
in Minnesota three nothing over China. The American women play
again Tuesday in Saint Louis against Jamaica. And there's a
playoff in soccer going on right now with lafc is
just tied up Mexico's Club America one to one. They're
in the final minutes and that tying goal in the
eighty ninth minute. The winner tonight gets the final spot
(01:04:44):
in next month's Club World Cup, which starts in a
couple week, and yes, the two people that we saw
in the Champions League Final are going to be here
and back to you, Thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (01:04:55):
Steve de segar Segur will rejoin us in about ten
minutes from now with his extended Saturday update, getting you
caught up on even more that you missed throughout your
Saturday Fox Sports Radio Aeron Torres Olden polonies. All right,
so let's continue a conversation with ant Man, because.
Speaker 4 (01:05:08):
But I had I had something to say before that.
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
Please God, no, I don't mind it.
Speaker 4 (01:05:12):
Can you tell Steve to stop giving that Yankee score? Please?
Speaker 3 (01:05:15):
Wow?
Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
I mean, I mean they did become the first city
to have a team lose by fifteen and five.
Speaker 4 (01:05:20):
I don't need the head, you know. Just say the
Dodgers beat the Yankees and I'll be okay. That's all
I'm That's all I have to say.
Speaker 2 (01:05:29):
A lot too, a little well, a lot too, a
little google it. Yeah, that's the update, going for it. Yeah,
Yankees get blown out.
Speaker 4 (01:05:37):
Oh my god, there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
But they have the biggest and they're the head in
the division.
Speaker 4 (01:05:43):
It doesn't matter if we lose by one or whatever
that number is. We lost it. That's all I'm.
Speaker 2 (01:05:49):
Saying, Dodgers looking for the series sweep Sunday night.
Speaker 3 (01:05:53):
Yeah, my wife's.
Speaker 4 (01:05:54):
Aunt is going anyway.
Speaker 3 (01:05:57):
Yeah, all right, Anthony Edwards.
Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
So so yeah, no, So I just I think if
you don't watch the games, you just look at the
stats at the end. And I understand that. You know,
Bride just played the sound of him after games, after
game five, but nineteen points in game five, sixteen on
five of thirteen in game four, But you just look
(01:06:22):
at it, and it's just I just every time I
watch him, I think there's something to be left to
be desired. Now that doesn't mean that he won't eventually
be the best player in the league or whatever, but
it's just I just think that we were so quick
to anoint him.
Speaker 3 (01:06:38):
Not you and I we but we as the media.
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
Yeah, And I just see a dude who has all
the tools in the toolbox that just I just don't
think he I don't even think it's that he doesn't
know how to use him. I just think that he's
just misusing them at this point.
Speaker 4 (01:06:53):
He's young, that's number one. Number two, he's he's almost
a stat filler, you know, That's what I feel like.
That pattern it's like, yeah, you know, you're right. You
know most of his points, you know, they come in
when the game's over. But let me ask you this
to be the face of the league and everything else,
(01:07:14):
and I do agree to a certain extent. You know,
at first he was kind of like underrated, and now
I can see the overrated statement being made. Does Anthony
Edwards make his teammates better when he's on the floor,
Nicola Jokic, does you know? Because he looks out for
(01:07:35):
his teammates with his passing, his rebounding, communication, scoring. Steph
Curry makes his teammates better as Egos, so does the Warriors.
Lebron James makes teammates better, Luca makes teammates better. Caliburn
makes teammates better. I don't see that with Anthony. I
just don't see it. It's all about him, and until
(01:07:59):
he he figures that out, it's gonna be a problem.
Speaker 2 (01:08:02):
So I asked you this, and again it's a different context.
So I asked you earlier in the hour. Zion Williamson
going through a lot of personal stuff, and I just said,
is anybody gonna be able to get through to him?
Do you think somebody will eventually get through to Anthony,
you know, and they're famous stories throughout basketball of on
the court. We're obviously talking strictly Anthony Edwards on the
(01:08:23):
court and he met you know, you're playing days against
Michael Jordan's stuff. But the famous stories of pre Phil
Jackson versus post Phil Jackson and all of that. Do
you think somebody will eventually get through to Anthony Because
I think it's a great point that I hadn't really
thought of, is it's almost like he's playing his own
game independent of the other four guys on the floor,
(01:08:44):
and he gets his stats. I think a lot of
times late in games when it's decided one way or
the other. But to your point, I don't see a
guy that right now in his career, and he is
still very young, but I don't see a guy that
makes a lot of people better around.
Speaker 4 (01:08:56):
No, not at all. But I would say if they
were able to pull the trigger on Kevin Durant, that
makes a big difference. Now you have an All Star,
all NBA Hall of Famer, top fifty, top twenty five,
you know, guy that you defer to, And so that
(01:09:17):
changed the dynamics for Anthony Edwards, you know, because I
still don't believe he's a one. I think he's a
great two. You know, he needs somebody else, but he
needs somebody that he can respect. He doesn't respect Julius
Randall and Julius Rand's not better than him. So and
there's nobody else right now. He's the one and so
(01:09:38):
to me, those are the things that the Timberwolves, you know,
Tim Connelly's going to have to figure out because you know,
this young man again, he's still twenty three years old,
but he needs a better veteran on that team. It's
not Mike Conley. Mike Conley's done. He needs a top
notch veteran that can come in that he can look
(01:09:59):
at and see how he works, how he makes teammates better.
Speaker 2 (01:10:03):
Don't you think don't you think some of that maturity
should have come from the Olympic team last summer. I
know it's only a three to four week window, but
you're around those dudes twenty four hours a day. You're
practicing with him early in the summer, you're traveling with him,
you're spending time with him. Because that's the thing that's
kind of disappointed to me is I thought we are
kind of seeing an evolution of Anthony Edwards from a
(01:10:24):
personality perspective, after being around Steph and Lebron and you
know some of the you know, even the young guys
Jason Tatum is composed in whatever you know, Derek White.
Speaker 3 (01:10:35):
And just didn't feel like it happened.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
I feel like that should have been the moment where
he kind of was like, Okay, this is what I
have to do.
Speaker 3 (01:10:40):
It's kind of take it to the next level.
Speaker 4 (01:10:42):
Yeah, you saw it. But you can only do so much,
you know, based on what you are willing to do. Yep,
you know he can talk to Steph all day, but
is he willing to give the ball up? Steph is
willing to give the ball up and get it back,
but I don't think he is. And again, his style
of play is different as well, so there's so many
(01:11:03):
different components fro him and to me, like I said,
it's just it's tough, you know. Yeah, I was in
the Olympics with all these guys, the great players, you know,
Durance and everybody. But you can say a lot of
the great stuff for the sound bites. Sure, which one
do you really honestly believe? Yep? And embrace you know, no.
Speaker 3 (01:11:27):
And it's totally fair.
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
And you know, he had a couple of interesting sound
bites throughout the playoffs in terms of you know, he
said something about uh.
Speaker 3 (01:11:35):
I think it was after Game four.
Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
They asked him if he was disappointed in his effort,
and he's like, I didn't take enough shots to be
disappointed or whatever, and it's like, you know, stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (01:11:47):
He needs help. He's another one that needs help. He
needs somebody in his corner.
Speaker 2 (01:11:51):
Yeah, now, and I think in his case it's just
veterans guys that, like you said, he has to kind
of fall in line and respect and all that.
Speaker 3 (01:11:58):
So Timberwolves are out.
Speaker 2 (01:12:00):
They lose to Okase earlier in the week, and Okase,
of course we'll face Indy in the NBA finals. Fox
Sports Radio Aeron Torres Olden polinice in for Jason Martin
will come back old in every show at about nine
to forty five Pacific. We get it over the news
desk to Seger gets extended updates full of stats from
Yankees games. So we're gonna go ahead and do that next.
(01:12:22):
Just talk about the Yankees for maybe fifteen straight minutes.
I think they lost the Dodgers today. We'll do that
next Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back everybody, Fox Sports Radio.
Aaron Torres, Olden Polonyes Olden Polonies is in for Jason Martin.
Jason Martin actually following us at two am Eastern time.
He is filling in for Bernie Fratto.
Speaker 3 (01:12:44):
All right, so j Martin may be out.
Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
But every Saturday Sunday morning around this time, we do
toss it over the news desk. Steve de Sager, give
us the extended update, everything we missed, and if you
want to lead with the Dodgers Yankees, I don't feel
free to give us that final score too. K.
Speaker 3 (01:13:01):
Yeah, it was eighteen to two.
Speaker 6 (01:13:02):
Oh, we will get to a lot of NBA. But
since you tak college baseball and this is the regionals
weekend for college.
Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
Shase, I didn't, so my eyes are bad. I thought
it was seven nothing Texas, and then I saw go ahead,
I know what you're gonna go with.
Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
No, No, I was gonna go to Vanderbilt. Go what
you got Texas?
Speaker 2 (01:13:21):
I think is the number two seed they in the
overall tournament and they just lost it home to utsa.
Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
Number one seed.
Speaker 3 (01:13:28):
Well they're number one in that little region there. I
think Vandy is the number one overall seed in tournament.
But it's double eliminations. It's double yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:13:36):
But still but I mean, Texas was in the UTSA
is feels pretty big. But so anyways, my eyes are
starting to get bad. I thought Texas was up seven nothing,
UTSA was up nine to seven. I see UTSA running
out of the dugout celebrating. I'm trying to figure out
what's going on. So my eyes are getting bad.
Speaker 3 (01:13:52):
That that's the theme. I need to see enough to AFG.
Speaker 6 (01:13:54):
Meanwhile, Texas softball had not beaten rival Oklahoma in the
state of Oklahoma in over it decade until today in
Oklahoma City, where the Women's College World Series is beat
the Sooners four to two to make the SEMIS again
double elimination. Sooners defending champs, not out yet, but they
are in the College World Series for a ninth straight time.
Texas Tech beat UCLA women three to one. But as
(01:14:16):
far as the baseball this weekend, and they're only at
the regionals. They's got the best of three super Regionals
coming next weekend. But number one Vanderbilt is hosting in
Nashville this weekend and lost to Louisville.
Speaker 4 (01:14:29):
Three to two.
Speaker 6 (01:14:30):
And Louisville had won its openers, so it is two
and zero so far, and UCLA is hosting a regional
this weekend, and the Bruins have pounded two opponents in
a row. And Georgia Tech's having a good weekend so
far as well, won their opener yesterday, and excuse me,
Murray State, I mean, had won the opener yesterday at
number ten Old Miss, and then Murray State beat Georgia
(01:14:51):
Tech thirteen to eleven tonight. Now, the NBA Finals start
on Thursday evening, Oklahoma City hosting a four seed the
Indiana pay Game two will be a week from Sunday,
June eighth, which means we won't get a basketball game
back at Indiana for another week and a half from
tonight because Game three is not till Wednesday, June eleventh
(01:15:13):
at Indiana. But Associated Press reprinted apparently over the decades,
what were the longest odds at the start of the
playoffs for a team that wound up reaching the finals
that year? The Pacers some of the longest odds. They
were listed at plus eight thousand to start this postseason.
If I'm reading that right, that means you get an
(01:15:34):
eight hundred dollars profit on a ten dollars bet. Well,
they're on the doorstep now. The Pacers, a four seed,
are in the NBA Finals, apparently the longest shot to
make the finals compared to their odds at the start
of the postseason two years ago Miami's run, and for
the first time since two thousand and seven, our finals
matchup is two teams not selected to play on Chrismas,
(01:15:57):
which goes something that you were talking about early in
the show. Because there are five games on Christmas these days,
that's ten different teams we're talking about. So I looked
up the Christmas schedule from this season in the NBA
first game with the.
Speaker 2 (01:16:11):
Knicks, I was gonna I was gonna get Can we
guess the ten teams? It was definitely, Yeah, all right,
so it's definitely Nick, Celtics, Lakers, Warriors, Nuggets certainly played.
Speaker 6 (01:16:22):
Yeah, Nick, Knicks were one game. Celtics were a separate game,
Nuggets were a separate game. Lakers versus Warriors, and Minnesota
was a game.
Speaker 4 (01:16:30):
As Clippers, right, Clippers were there.
Speaker 6 (01:16:32):
No, the late game was the Nuggets and Suns at
this year's Christmas schedule none, Yes, you are correct. At
noon Eastern on Christmas Day, which is now owned by
the NFL. Yeah, so anyway, two teams that were not
selected to play on Christmas are your two teams remaining,
(01:16:55):
which gets me too, and it will be curious for me.
It's not the be all and end all, but what
will the TV ratings fee for this matchup? We got
the MVP of the league in the finals, so it's
not like there's nothing to watch here people. But the
last three years the NBA Finals have been averaging about
eleven to twelve million viewers for the final series. The
(01:17:17):
lowest rated was under ten million viewers going back almost
twenty years when the young Cleveland team got swept by
San Antonio. So we'll see how it gets judged this
coming next week or two the NBA Finals TV. Now
the late game in baseball is on FS one, and
the Washington Nationals led in the top of the first
ten to nothing. They sent eleven batters to the plate
(01:17:40):
and still not an out had been recorded. Apparently, those
eleven batters without and out tied the longest start of
a game streak in the expansion era going back about
sixty years for reaching safely to begin either getting on
with hit batter, and they had a couple of those
tonight or with a hit itself. And yet the game's
(01:18:01):
not over. It's Washington eleven to seven at Arizona right now,
bottom of the eighth on FS one. But everything else
is final. The Yankees had been dominant the last three weeks.
Their record had been well. They had won sixteen of
their last twenty games going into this weekend at Dodger
Stadium World Series rematch. Somehow they lost the game last night,
the opener of the three game set, even though seven
(01:18:22):
to zero, Max Freed was on the mound and the
Yankees hit four early homers, and they still led five
to two in the sixth and couldn't close it out.
And then tonight Yankees were down ten to nothing in
the second inning. Dodgers eventually five home runs in the game,
eighteen to the final. The Dodger record in the last
four weeks had been eleven and twelve going into the weekend,
(01:18:45):
and nobody will remember that if they closed out a sweep.
It's tomorrow night's hosting the.
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
Yanks, Thank you very much, Steve seger Sis Fox Sports Radio,
Fox Sports Saturday into Sunday air Tors Olden, polonies in
for Jason Martin and Busy Night. By the way, didn't
mention the did you mention the other softball score? Texas
Tech with their million dollar pitcher gets the win over UCLA,
So Nazorie Kennedy got the win there, I'm I'm Chris
(01:19:11):
Plank has gotten me into college softball. So I don't
know if you were on air last night for the
walk off walk Oregon old Miss Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:19:19):
So the picture you're from Stanford you're talking about, Yeah,
Nadre Kennedy was the picture from Stanford? Is great with them?
Speaker 2 (01:19:25):
Yes, yes, great with them at Texas Tech. A million
dollars in nil for a softball and coming through Yeah,
and coming through well. Texas Tech advanced in the College
World Series as well. So tell you what, We'll come
back revisit Indiana, New York Game six, Indie going to
the finals.
Speaker 3 (01:19:40):
How do they match up with OKC? That's next. Fox
Sports rad.
Speaker 1 (01:19:46):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:19:49):
Welcome in everybody our three Fox Sports Radio Aaron torres
Old and polonies in for Jason Martin. I've said it
a few times, but Jason Martin will be filling in
for Bernie Fratto top of this hour, So make sure
to uh to stay tuned, keep locked in. Jay mart
(01:20:09):
will be taking you through the evening. He's coming up
in one hour from from now. He is got a
lot to say, I know, Jay Martin's got a lot
on a lot of different topics from throughout the week
in sports, big topic from Saturday into Sunday. As we
all know now, NBA Finals are set Indiana Pacers. As
(01:20:30):
the SEGA just told you, take care of the New
York Knicks. Final score at Gamebridge field House one twenty
five one oh eight is the final score. Pacers advance.
They will face the Oklahoma City Thunder. Series starts Thursday,
Game one in Oklahoma City. I want to start looking ahead, Olden,
(01:20:50):
but any any you know we for people who missed
it, you go back and down to the podcast. We talked
a lot about this game earlier in the show, but
just really quick, any closing thoughts on this series. It
could be from the Pacers' perspective, it could be from
the knickt perspective. But Indiana does win the series in
six and is headed to the NBA Finals.
Speaker 4 (01:21:08):
Well, definitely I have some thoughts. Number One, the Knick's
guy do a better job of learning how to utilize
every player that they have on their roster, you know.
And that's one of the things I do like about
the Warriors, as Steve Kerr does during the regular season,
He'll play young guys early on just to get them
(01:21:29):
acclimated and used to playing and you know, giving them
that belief in that sense of belief. And I don't
think Thibodeau does that well with his teams. You know.
We've seen it with the Bulls, We've seen it with Minnesota.
You know, he's so stuck in his ways. And one
of the things I don't like about him, like he'll
(01:21:50):
stand there with his arms crossed with that mad look
on his face. I'm like, dude, no coach, you know,
try coaching guy turning the ball over. Get them. I'll
get some new guys in, you know. You can't just
keep letting them turn the ball over. And the thing
about it, it was like really unforced errors, you know,
that cost them the game. So those are some of
(01:22:11):
the things. And it needs a couple of pieces too.
They need some other guys, you know, But.
Speaker 3 (01:22:15):
Will tips play them though, Yeah, great.
Speaker 4 (01:22:19):
Point, never mind. But Indiana, I mean, they made it
to the finals. They they played their game. I do
believe once again that Game one was the key. Once
that happened, the Knicks were done. In my opinion, they
were done after that, because there's no way. It was like,
(01:22:39):
I don't know what the percentages, but it's damned in
ninety nine point eight.
Speaker 3 (01:22:42):
Let me let me ask you this.
Speaker 2 (01:22:43):
As a former athlete, it's cliche for guys like me
to say this, that never played at the level that
you did. But is it as simple as I mean,
you're up fourteen points with two and a half minutes
to go at home Game one. I know everybody's supposed
to just move on for that and oh your but
I do imagine that it's hard to just say, Okay,
(01:23:05):
it's one of seven, let's move on when you lose
in the manner.
Speaker 4 (01:23:10):
That you did. But it's not one of seven. You
lost home court, You lost momentum, You lost anything and
everything that you could have had in that moment because
for all the the pre celebration that you had leading
up to that point, you up fourteen points two minutes
forty seconds, the fans, some fans were theyad left. I
(01:23:33):
literally said to my brother I was on the phone
with and I said, all right, this game is over.
Let's see what else is on. What am I gonna
watch now? I literally said that because I'm like, this
game is over, because why I played this game long enough,
and I know how to count. No time works too,
I know how time works. I know there's twenty four
(01:23:53):
seconds in a possession. Indiana comes down and scores, and
actually the Knicks had the ball. You come down and
score at sixteen, but you turn it over. Indiana comes
and scores. Okay, let's say they's amnestments. It's a three. Yep. Okay,
So now there's to sixteen left. I get my possession.
(01:24:17):
I run out the clock. I'll turn it over to you.
Speaker 3 (01:24:19):
Yes, yeah, come back down.
Speaker 4 (01:24:23):
There's not enough time for you to score the points
that you need. I'll turn it over three more times.
Games over, you still need one more possession. That's how
I think. And but it's like they scored a two.
But it's like, why are you scoring with eighteen seconds
(01:24:44):
on the shock clock. You don't need any more baskets
they do.
Speaker 3 (01:24:49):
It's just interesting to me.
Speaker 2 (01:24:50):
And with TIBs, is that like when you really break
it down. Listen, guy, clearly knows more than basketball. I'm
not going to be the guy, oh he's the worst
coach ever, But it's like, that's what I'm saying. It's
like for a guy that you know. I think prior
to this series, I think the rep was Listen Bulls
(01:25:12):
in the Eastern Conference finals de Rose getser. I think
the criticism was doesn't play enough guys. But what I
do think that I watched as a casual observer, not
not having played at the level that you did, I
don't see a lot there with TIBs, Like, I think
he's a guy ass pictures.
Speaker 3 (01:25:32):
And that's what you know.
Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
And I do think there are coaches that can take
a bad situation and elevate it that can't get it
to another level. And I think the Knicks have kind
of hit their ceiling with him as a head coach,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (01:25:45):
I believe that as well. But now you know, we
have a couple of guys that did get fired that
are looking for work. Yeah, Mike Malone's gonna get a job,
I know. And there's a couple of attractive teams out
there where he would fit perfectly. And so to me, again,
I said this before it's like sometimes you just need
(01:26:07):
a new voice.
Speaker 3 (01:26:08):
Yeah, so what is he your four year five tips.
I'm gonna look it up real quick.
Speaker 4 (01:26:12):
That's all he can. That's all he got for you.
Speaker 3 (01:26:14):
Well, yeah, and I mean he.
Speaker 4 (01:26:15):
Wears on everybody I know. Trust me, he's weighing on Brunson.
Speaker 3 (01:26:20):
I believe it.
Speaker 2 (01:26:20):
Well I mentioned I forget if I mentioned an on
air or off air, but what stood out to me
was the clinching game against the Celtics where Brunson was
on the bench to start the I think he never
came back in, but there were other starters in and
Brunson went to him and was like, dude, you got
to pull these guys, and then he didn't went back
to the bench. I think it was Rick Brunson went
(01:26:41):
to him, and then finally Jalen came over and was like, dude,
you gotta get these guys out of there where they
were up by thirty points in the fourth quarter of
Game six or whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:26:49):
I think it was Game six against so they weren't.
Speaker 4 (01:26:52):
Yeah, It's like, yo, dude, you got it. Dude. He's
standing there with his arms cruss up forty I know
you don't need started if you lose that game. All
y'all should be fired.
Speaker 3 (01:27:05):
I didn't realize Tims was so old, sixty seven years old.
Speaker 4 (01:27:08):
Yeah, so he looks it.
Speaker 2 (01:27:10):
Can't can't teach an old dog Nutrix. Now he might
look it. I mean I know that that comor. I mean,
somebody's just gotta we just gotta whatever anyway, really quickly,
and we got six days to break down the NBA Finals.
But your first thoughts on Okay see versus Indiana. Other
than that, just speaking to you, it seems like you're
(01:27:30):
excited and you expect a good back and forth.
Speaker 4 (01:27:33):
I'm excited. I love basketball. I love good basketball, so
I'm looking forward to it. And what I'm really loving
is the fact that, Okay, you have a championship coach
in Rick Carlisle, you know, and they both play similar
styles of basketball, you know, full court pressure defense, tenacious
pressure defense at that and a fast pace. Indiana paces
(01:27:56):
have the number one I mean, their pace of play
is number one in the league. Then you flip it
around in the West, Okay, see full corpreser defense. They
got a lot of dogs, as they like to say,
you got the MVP, you got a rising star in
jail and William Yeah, j Dubb. But they got about
one hundred years and so you have that whole thing
(01:28:21):
going and a young, really smart, intelligent coach in dagnaut I,
just like everything about them. You know what's so funny
about Okay, see what's up? They might win the championship
and they got a nineteen year old still sitting there
waiting that's like really really good Nicole topic. Oh yeah, yeah,
(01:28:42):
hasn't played a game, but he's up and coming star.
He's that good, a six', SIX i, mean just. Solid
and they have ten thousand draft. Picks.
Speaker 2 (01:28:52):
Still, well it's really funny and this probably is a
conversation to say for after they win the. Championship but
the rebuild that they, did it given everything right because
you think it's, okay see you know you're not gonna
get free, agents and you, know obviously we know how it.
Speaker 3 (01:29:10):
Ended katie. Leaves russ, stays you trade For Paul.
Speaker 2 (01:29:14):
George Paul george demands the, trade and they blow it,
up and you just wonder are they ever going to get?
Back and only are they, back they're actually like built
to sustain this thing for a long. TIME i, mean
Shay shan's actually a little bit, older AND i thought
he think he's closing on on twenty seven With Jayalen,
williams like twenty one chets twenty twenty. One and as you,
said they got all these draft, picks which is the crazy.
(01:29:35):
Part and, YEAH i Mean i'm trying to think of who.
Speaker 3 (01:29:39):
Else you, know they have coming.
Speaker 4 (01:29:40):
Minimum seven year, run minimum seven year run because they get. Along,
yep they get. Along it's a College that's WHY i,
said both teams they have a really a college atmosphereic
type thing and they like each. Other they enjoy, it you,
know being around each. Other LIKE i, said with the
draft picks and all, That you're, right they did a
(01:30:00):
rebuild without. Rebuilding, yeah you, know which is. Weird you,
know they just kept. Rebuilding and also free. Agency the
biggest free agency that free agents signing that they had Was. Hartenstein,
yep that was huge for. Them he doesn't get enough,
credit but that was a huge. Pickup he compliments so
many of those.
Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
Guys let me ask you a question About, okay see
here as we switch gears a little. Bit you, know
you say they have a seven year. Run my only
question to you would, be and you know we're not
saying they're definitely gonna win or anything like. That but
we would have said the same thing about The Denver
nuggets three whatever it was three years ago and they
won the, title haven't been back to the. Finals would
(01:30:40):
have said the same thing about The. BUCKS i think
when they won the, title they haven't been.
Speaker 4 (01:30:44):
Back so.
Speaker 3 (01:30:46):
Is it fair to to like, say because it does
feel like it is.
Speaker 2 (01:30:50):
Different it does feel, Different BUT i feel like we
would have said the same thing About we did say
the same thing about The nuggets when they.
Speaker 4 (01:30:56):
Won, NO i didn't Because jokic IS i, mean there's
no words for. Him but they were questions With Jamal
murray with his. Health there were questions with all the other.
Players Michael porter jew Which Michael, porter jui is gonna show?
Up sure you didn't know. That Aaron, gordon you, KNOW
(01:31:18):
i love how he, plays but sometimes you, know it's
it's a little. Iffy and of course they lost K,
Cp Contavious, Colwell, pope they Lost Bruce brown and that hurt.
Them you, know to, me it hurt them because that
was a championship roster you. Had BUT i DON'T i
didn't think they had enough to sustain a run okay
(01:31:41):
see has enough with the jail And, williams both of,
them but the jail j Dub, One, Kendridge, Williams Lou,
Dort Joe, Isaiah Joe Case. WALLACE i mean they have
Studs Chad, Holmgren, hattenstein the boy coming in next, year
(01:32:07):
the nineteen year old. Topic then you got draft picks
still coming. In AND i promise you, this there's a
couple of players out there that are really interested in
playing with.
Speaker 3 (01:32:18):
Them, oh you want to break some.
Speaker 2 (01:32:20):
News lebron To Oka see right now at one fourteen
Eastern bronto his.
Speaker 4 (01:32:28):
House it's enough, Already.
Speaker 3 (01:32:31):
Well good, NEWS i, mean, WELL i MEAN i don't.
KNOW i, mean because the thing is With.
Speaker 2 (01:32:36):
Lebron of, course you, KNOW i would assume that That
bronni would be part of a trade, too as well
as Maybe. Bryce bryce is only a year removed as.
Well so, anyway But oka See INDIANA Nba final series
does open On. Thursday by the Way i'm looking right,
now okay see HAS i don't know about this, year
(01:32:57):
but next year they have one first round, pick seven
to first, round two first round, picks twenty twenty eight
to first round, picks and.
Speaker 4 (01:33:06):
They can give all those up right?
Speaker 3 (01:33:08):
Now, well, yeah, no it's.
Speaker 2 (01:33:09):
Funny i'll say this really quick because we got a
lot of other stuff to get.
Speaker 3 (01:33:12):
To BUT i was thinking about.
Speaker 2 (01:33:14):
THIS i think with so many of these other, teams
they have to draft, young cheap labor because so much
money is caught up in these big, contracts like The. Celtics,
right all the money's caught up In tatum And. BROWN
i Know tatum's, hurt but you get the. Point so
you need to draft older college players that are on cheap,
contracts almost like in, football, right you want those rookie. Contracts, yeah,
(01:33:37):
okay c he's the only one That it's, like they
can't draft anybody that's good enough to play extra because.
Speaker 3 (01:33:41):
There's no spot for this.
Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
Spot and so they're gonna be the ones that are
drafting the nineteen year old with all upside and stuff like.
Speaker 4 (01:33:47):
That give you, Know i'll trade, this you, know shoot
IF i can get IF i can get you know
who back To Oklahoma? City oh my?
Speaker 3 (01:33:55):
Good would?
Speaker 4 (01:33:55):
You oh, YEAH i would do. IT i don't, know, Man,
right it's finish.
Speaker 2 (01:33:59):
Out why not when when the title first this? Year
then maybe we can have that conversation because it's not a.
Speaker 4 (01:34:05):
Full gun thing. Though that's What i'm, Saying adiana, man and,
listen they thought that about The cleveland. Series OH i,
Know And i'm, like, dude these boys they. Bawling, no,
listen they got, swaged they got they got dog in them. Too.
Now H So i'm looking forward to this series.
Speaker 2 (01:34:25):
Methotic by the, WAY okc has the fifteenth and twenty
fourth picks in the UPCOMING nba, draft so.
Speaker 4 (01:34:32):
They still have first round. Picks it's. Unbelievable it's the
most insane. Thing Sam pressey is THE gm of the, MILLENNIUM.
Speaker 3 (01:34:40):
I, know of the.
Speaker 4 (01:34:42):
Forever it's.
Speaker 2 (01:34:43):
UNBELIEVABLE i, mean it really. Is and, again we can
save that conversation for after they win the. Championship but if,
Yes that's What i'm saying, though is it's a little too.
Speaker 4 (01:34:53):
Early if you keep saying they're gonna, win people want
to tune.
Speaker 3 (01:34:56):
In, No, no WHAT i, MEAN i don't mean it like.
Speaker 2 (01:34:57):
That WHAT i mean is we shouldn't have have like
the greatest rebuild ever conversation until they actually win a.
Championship that's All i'm saying is because they had that
window With Katie russ And harden and.
Speaker 3 (01:35:09):
Once that window blew, Up you're, like you, know they
may never, bet and here they are a couple of years.
Speaker 2 (01:35:14):

right all Then Indiana pacers headed to the. Finals but
it's worth noting a couple of the members of The
Indiana fever were in the. Building most, notably you may
(01:36:44):
have heard it For Kaitlyn. Clark sadly for basketball, fans
or at LEAST wnba, fans or at Least Indiana fever.
Fans Caitlin clark is out for at least the next
week or. So she was out all of this, week
has missed the last couple. GAMES i believe The fever
are zero to two since she got hurt dealing with
a quad.
Speaker 3 (01:37:04):
INJURY i don't even know.
Speaker 4 (01:37:07):
What the question.
Speaker 2 (01:37:08):
IS i, MEAN i know WHAT i want to, ask
and it seems Mean i'm a lot less interested in
THE wnba Without Kaitlin. Clark But i'll let you take
this topic wherever you. WANT i don't want to put words.
Speaker 4 (01:37:19):
Email I'm i'm. Not i'm, interested But i'm. NOT i
Think Caitlyn clark brings so much, value and it's kind
of like what we've been talking. About it's, like you,
know like THE nba face of the. League you, know
they try to do it with THE. Wnba but it's,
like you have a face of the, league somebody that's
(01:37:40):
really really really really good, yep that moves the, needle
that brings fans to the, arena and you don't take
advantage of. It it upsets me beyond. Belief and it's almost,
LIKE i, mean When jordan came, IN i, know, yeah
there was some, guys you, know like The All Star,
(01:38:01):
game that whole, fiasco they was shutting them out and all.
THAT i get all, that but it seems like the
whole league is doing this cluck, yep and that's. Upsetting that's,
like why would you do that to your golden, goose
your golden goose? Yep.
Speaker 2 (01:38:18):
Exactly, no it's it's one of the crazier Stories i've ever.
Seen AND i think what's disappointing to me is That,
listen if you want, to if you want to sit
here and say that a year, ago you knew she
was popular in, college but you didn't know if it
would translate and what it would mean for the.
Speaker 3 (01:38:36):
League, okay but this year you had a whole offseason
to get ready and. All it's the same exact.
Speaker 2 (01:38:42):
Thing it's the same exact thing where you, know game,
one there's the follow and it turns into this story
and then there's this investigation over this, nonsense and it's,
like you, know and then the commissioner of this week
was bragging, about, well you, KNOW i, mean our numbers
are up this, much this much and this, much and
we we've been building for this. Moment, no you got
(01:39:04):
a once in a history of the league ascending.
Speaker 3 (01:39:09):
Comment and that's.
Speaker 2 (01:39:10):
Why and, Listen i'm not saying you have to give
her all the, credit but the counter to that is
you don't have to do the glowing you, know interview
where you're taking all of the credit basically for the league's.
Success and it's, like it's not like my frustration is
it's not just the, Players like DO i think the
players should be?
Speaker 3 (01:39:29):
Jealous?
Speaker 2 (01:39:29):
No but DO i understand it to a? DEGREE i,
Do but the commissioner of the league either doesn't get
it or doesn't want to acknowledge. It we saw it
with other coaches last. Year it was The Minnesota links.
Coach i'm blanking on her, name but she was The
olympic coach and, said this league is more than one. Player,
okay maybe it, is but we only care about one of,
(01:39:51):
them And i'm, sorry it's the. TRUTH i don't know
what percentage it, is but there is a majority of
the audience is there for one specific. Person so rather
than fight, it embrace. It and it is a league wide,
thing literally from the. Top with the, Commissioner i'll Surname Kathy,
ingelbert THOUGH i don't think she knows what the heck she's.
Doing every time she, speaks it gets worse and. WORSE
(01:40:14):
i just think it's a broad. EMBARRASSMENT i really.
Speaker 4 (01:40:15):
Do it really. Is AND i said this a while
back With Dan. Bayer it's it's the, agendas but it's
the agendas with the W nba because none of this
is about, basketball and that's what's. Upsetting it's everybody has
their own, agendas you, know whether it's Commission, angelbert it's the,
(01:40:37):
Players Chicago, Sky Angel, rees it's. Everybody it's, like And
i've watched since she's been, Out i've watched the the
attendance of the games throughout the league and it's not.
Good SO i DON'T i don't care what they're talking.
About they knew this thing was gonna translate to the
(01:40:58):
W nba when they saw her At iowa because she
was Doing Steph curry's stuff on the women's, side which was.
Insane and that's what made everybody tune in because that's
what we used to, Say, hey do you know they
got this girl that plays just Like Steph curry shoots
from half. Court that's what we would. Say and then
when we saw, it, like oh my, god she's. Dope
and so it's, like, good we want to see. This
(01:41:20):
your league Needs Caitlin. Clark AND i still don't get.
It they want to keep doing this, stuff, Man and
that file was not a Flagrant.
Speaker 3 (01:41:30):
So CAN i tell you a quick story about?
Speaker 4 (01:41:31):
That my.
Speaker 2 (01:41:32):
God, So Jason martin is normally in this time so
AND i specifically said to him that. Night we didn't
even talk about that until like our three AND i, Said,
jason that wasn't a big. Deal BUT i, SAID i
guarantee you On, monday the usual suspects in the media
are going to make it a big. DEAL i didn't
think it was going to get quite to the level
(01:41:53):
that it did with some of the.
Speaker 3 (01:41:54):
DISCOURSE i, mean.
Speaker 2 (01:41:56):
Even for The Caitlin Clark Angel reese, discourse it went
to a level THAT i don't think anybody was ready
For BUT i remember SAYING i said To, JASON i,
SAID i, go people are going to make this into
a thing when it.
Speaker 4 (01:42:07):
Was it wasn't even a hard, fight wasn't yes at.
All that's why WHEN i didn't see the, game BUT
i saw the replay AND i was, like wait a,
minute what are they talking. About Wes west the flagrant.
Speaker 9 (01:42:20):
Agel rees shoved the back was a harder, Fall wes
The flagwan won no, oh because she, flailed that was the.
Speaker 4 (01:42:27):
Flagrant come, on, stop they need to, stop seriously take
care of The Golden goose and enjoy the.
Speaker 2 (01:42:34):
Ride and Then kate And clark dribbles to the, lane
gets too close Line Kurt rambis eighty eight style and it's.
Speaker 4 (01:42:41):
Like i'm telling, you the way they dropped the ball
was that her rookie, year they scheduled her games against
the two best defensive teams in the, league back to back.
Games that was insane to. Me that told me EVERYTHING
i need to know about THE. Wnba they don't care
and they not rolling with her for whatever. REASONS i
(01:43:04):
don't know what it, is but it's like the Goldens
goose is handed to you and you don't protect and
take care of her stop.
Speaker 3 (01:43:11):
It, well there you, Go indiana.
Speaker 9 (01:43:14):

Speaker 2 (01:50:13):
Next should they Fire, Thibodeau Anthony, Edwards Zion. Williamson if
you missed any of, it be sure to check out the.
Podcast just Search Fox Sports ready wherever you get your,
podcasts and be sure to follow and review the. Podcast
give it a quick five. Stars, again just Search Fox
Sports ready wherever you get your, podcast and you'll see
today's show posted after we get off. Air all old
them before we. Go let's just kind of wrap on
(01:50:33):
a couple of different. Topics, one you just sent me
a story THAT i think you broke the news originally
because you said earlier in the show That Kevin durant
would be the perfect addition to This Minnesota timberwolves team
that needs some, maturity that needs, somebody you, know a
veteran guy that could kind of, look, uh you, know
(01:50:54):
Look Anthony edwards in the in the eye and kind
of get him in line and uh oops. Hoops wired
earlier today posted an article where they said that they
expect The Minnesota timberwolves to Pursue Kevin. Durant So i'm
guessing you are not very surprised by, that given that
you just suggested it a mere moments before we saw the.
Speaker 4 (01:51:14):
Article oh, yeah not at. ALL i mean that was the.
Talk doing the trade. Deadline The sons And timberwolves had,
discussions and, unfortunately because this Whole First ape And Second,
apron that whole, craft THE nba came up with the financial,
things it wasn't. Doable Plus, kevin you, know was squashing all,
trades you, know because he didn't want to leave during
(01:51:35):
the middle. Season but he's he's available now and all
the moves that they were not allowed to make or
weren't capable of, making now that the season is over for,
them they're able to. Do so keep an eye out
for that. ONE i think that's that's a perfect situation
For Kevin durant to finish out his. Career it Helps Anthony,
(01:51:56):
edwards and it helps The Minnesota timberwolves really.
Speaker 3 (01:51:59):
Quick any thoughts on Where janice could end up this.
Speaker 4 (01:52:01):
Offseason jannis has said he wants to go stay on
The East, coast so why wouldn't You it's the week
of the two. Conferences BUT i could see him In.
BOSTON i could definitely See jannis with The Boston, Celtics
Jailing brown being up for, grabs even Though Jason tatum's.
(01:52:23):
Out but, YEAH i could see that.
Speaker 3 (01:52:24):
Happening so you think they would Trade Jalen.
Speaker 4 (01:52:27):
Brown, yeah the money matches or just goes to Another
you can't Trade Jason tatum he's. Injured, NO i.
Speaker 3 (01:52:34):
Know i'm just, saying is.
Speaker 2 (01:52:35):
That it's just it would just be a weird situation
For jannis BECAUSE i didn't have a ton of help
around him In milwaukee this, year especially After lillard went
out with the blood cloud issue and then there obviously
wouldn't be very much help if you Traded Jalen brown
And Jason tatum clearly is obviously not.
Speaker 4 (01:52:53):
Available AND i heard somebody Say, brooklyn But i'm, like
why you might as well stay In. Milwaukee gonna be. Good,
no that won't.
Speaker 3 (01:53:02):
Happen they just don't have the.
Speaker 4 (01:53:03):
Contracts, yeah they don't have. Enough just like you, KNOW
i would love to see what The, warriors but The
warriors don't have any pieces or any contracts outside Of
Steph curry to give real.
Speaker 2 (01:53:14):
Quick do you think, next because because The warriors, listen you,
know If steph stays, healthy who. Knows do you think
there's a window here With Jimmy butler or do you
just think they're three kind of older guys and probably not.
Speaker 4 (01:53:25):
REALISTIC i think they gonna stand pat only because the
injury To. Steph, yeah it's like we don't know what
we have, Technically but do you think they have enough?
Though like seeing, okay see they need a. Big, yeah
they need a BIG i don't care who it. Is
they just need a big body that can chew gum
and run at the same. Time how are you?
Speaker 3 (01:53:46):
Feeling you think you gotta call?
Speaker 4 (01:53:48):
It i'm. Done you don't. Know i'm a self aware.
MAN i know my. Limitations i've been done twenty two.
Years i've been. DONE i don't.
Speaker 3 (01:53:57):
Know it just sounds like you need a ten.
Speaker 4 (01:53:59):
Minutes, listen, Anybody Mitchell, ROBINSON i don't, Care Mark. Williams
go find some. Big but it's got to be a
big that can you, know that can play some. Defense
that's all they. Missing draymond ten years. AGO i can
understand him playing against, fives but he can't do that
now with.
Speaker 3 (01:54:17):
Now with Chet you know what's.
Speaker 2 (01:54:18):
Funny this is kind of a random, topic but you,
Know i'll just throw it out there.
Speaker 3 (01:54:22):
QUICKLY i was thinking about this WATCHING Okc.
Speaker 2 (01:54:26):
Minnesota IF okc Dominated minnesota the way that they, did
And minnesota dominated The lakers in the manner that they.
Did how far away are The lakers right?
Speaker 4 (01:54:37):
Now they Fall that's WHAT i, mean they fall. Away
but you know what's so funny about The lakers is
the fact that you look around the, league a lot
of guys that Are All stars and everything else they
played for The lakers at some point in. Time Julius
randall brandon, Ing i'll tell you, This jayden, McDaniels.
Speaker 3 (01:54:56):
Jaden mc you, Know i'll tell you.
Speaker 2 (01:54:59):
THIS i went back after they got, eliminated AND i
looked at the first roster that they had When lebron got.
There If lebron didn't want to BE gm And lebron
didn't want to hand pick all of his, Teammates i'm
Gonna i'm gonna tell you really quick because we got
a few minutes here before we're. Up the twenty Eighteen
Los Angeles lakers. Roster, okay hold, on let's See Let's
(01:55:21):
Angels lakers. Roster, Okay so let's see here is this twenty,
eighteen twenty. NINETEEN i want to see if this is
the right. ROSTER i think it. Is let me see
it real. QUICK i didn't know we're going to do
this topic BUT i went back and looked AND i was, Like,
oh if they just hadn't done, anything they would be.
Awesome so this is the roster From lebron's first. Year,
ah we mentioned, him we mentioned Brandon ingram obviously has
(01:55:44):
evolved into An all. Star let's see who. Else Moe
wagner has turned into a very nice.
Speaker 4 (01:55:50):
PLAYER i forgot about him on The. Lake there's a
couple other.
Speaker 2 (01:55:53):
Ones how about a guy who's about to be in
THE Nba finals right, Now Alex. Caruso you know who
else was on that? Team Josh hart For Los angeles
playing It so, listen this is this is the. Lineup
and Forget, lonzo who's. HURT cacp was on that team,
Too so, YEAH, Kcp Alex, Caruso Josh, Hart Brandon, Ingram Kyle,
(01:56:15):
kuzma who you know, whatever he's a piece Uh Mo.
Speaker 3 (01:56:19):
Wagner that's a squad right. There But lebron is so.
Speaker 2 (01:56:23):
Stubborn he drives me, crazy, Dude And i'm you, know
you live in L a, too so you know.
Speaker 3 (01:56:28):
This but it's like.
Speaker 2 (01:56:29):
All these people are, like, Oh, Polinka it's, like what
do you Want polenka to?
Speaker 3 (01:56:33):
Do he has to do What lebron.
Speaker 2 (01:56:35):
Wants lebron wanted to trade For, westbrook and then somehow
It's polenka's fault when it doesn't work. Out polenka got
The Anthony Davis deel, done he got The luca Docer steel.
Speaker 3 (01:56:45):
Done he has built.
Speaker 2 (01:56:46):
Teams Around lebron When, lebron it's just it drives me
crazy that it's anyone. Other, listen you're in the. FRATERNITY
i don't know how much you could criticize. Players i'll
do it all for. You it's just insane to me
the criticism that anyone other Than.
Speaker 3 (01:57:02):
Lebron is taking for the current state of The.
Speaker 4 (01:57:03):
Lakers it's, tough, man you. Know but when the man and,
Again i'm all for. Nepotism i'm gonna look out for
all my kids IF i can do.
Speaker 3 (01:57:14):
It one of your kids was supposed to host for me.
Today they told. ME i was, like what are you doing?
Speaker 4 (01:57:19):
Now but when that, happened it was, like he's not.
Good if anybody else drafts, him we have a. Problem
that was kind of like the statement and it was
like only The lakers And i'm like when he did,
THAT i was, Like, okay that's a very powerful.
Speaker 2 (01:57:34):
Man you, know And i'll say this, too it's embarrassing
some of this revisionist history that they're trying to pull
with lebron right, Now Like Rich paul coming out the
other day and, saying, oh there was No big, Three
bosh wasn't part of A big. Three it's, like that's
so insulting to a dude that was on the track
to be A hall Of famer until he AND i
think he still.
Speaker 3 (01:57:54):
Might be A hall Of. FAMER i don't even, know but, like.
Speaker 2 (01:57:57):
Dude average like twenty four and twelve the year before
he got To, miami and it's like he sacrificed to
win two championships and now you're trying to write him
out of.
Speaker 3 (01:58:05):
History it's like that's just one.
Speaker 2 (01:58:06):
EXAMPLE i can't think of everything right, now but it's just,
like it's unbelievable here.
Speaker 4 (01:58:10):
You say that remind me Of kendrick Lamar. Line so
it's not a big, three it's just big.
Speaker 3 (01:58:15):
Me, yeah that's a that should be the that should.
Speaker 4 (01:58:18):
Be the lebron that's his. Mantra it's.
Speaker 2 (01:58:22):
Unbelievable so, yeah So bronni's, there you, Know but but,
hey LIKE i, said they Got.
Speaker 3 (01:58:28):
Bronni so who.
Speaker 2 (01:58:28):
Knows maybe maybe the future is brighter Than i'm giving credit.
For so, Anyway uh, YEAH i think that's. It really,
quickly give me a, quick, quick quick. Prediction game One
oka See indiana's hosting him Or indiana is visiting okayc
For game one On.
Speaker 4 (01:58:44):
