Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Greetings and welcome in another beautiful Sunday morning underway. Glad
to be here alongside my guy, Damn Bayer the I
Watch a Flex podcast. You hear him during the week,
the Doug Gottlieb Show, as well as Cavino and Rich.
We saddle up beach in every Sunday full sporting universe
ahead of us. Some great storylines and stories and background
(00:24):
fodder as we get out of well at the end
of this holiday weekend. Almost as big as the country
for the country that we left, that is great Britain
and the A and the UK, as it was here
in America because you had the Oasis First Concerts, you
had the Goodbye to Ozzy Osbourne in a elaborate ceremony
(00:49):
and concert that included luminaries all over, and then guys
that weren't part of the act and still showed up,
Hi Brian May, Doctor Brian May of Queen still wanted
to take it all in. And then today we get
the British Grand Prix to finish it off, as well
as all of our gluttony here in America, hot dog
(01:09):
celebrations and Joey Chestnuts return baseball show, Tani's birthday.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
I mean, just a cavalcade of.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Storylines, yes, with us for sports, gluttony as well as
you know, our gastronomy, as.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Well as Wimbledon going on right now, and then in
the next couple of weeks, our eyes will shift in
the world of golf two overseas with the Scottish Open
and ultimately the Open Championship two weeks two weeks from
today will be the final round of that at Royal
Port Rush in Northern Ireland. So a lot going on, Mike.
It is also I'm gonna be honest, this is the
(01:45):
hangover after the hangover. The fourth of July Friday allows
you to also celebrate on Saturday and then Sunday is
I'm telling you, I don't even drink and I'm to
my max. This is this is one of those you
get them, what maybe once every decade, depending how the
calendar falls, you get that fourth of July three day weekend.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
My goodness, A lot of recovery.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Going on tomorrow when you show up for work, because
I think there are people still going strong today. Look out.
Not a lot of production, I guarantee you. On Monday,
July seventh.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
See normally you get out of the oh you're hosting
this year because it all falls right as the friends group, family,
local whatever. You can say, all right, you got you
know this round, and we'll host it next year. You
move no, because you had the three day weekend with Friday,
as you say, and nobody's off the hook, right, It's
just short from one spot to the.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Night, and why not continue on Saturday because you would
have Sunday to try to regroup. Yeah, and people are like,
guess what Fourth of July is on a Friday. I'm
gonna take Thursday off as well. So it is to
travel or to get to where they need to be.
Tomorrow not going to be a very productive day at
work for people.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
I'm gonna guess not. I'll be on a plane sleep,
so it'll be very productive for me in my restorative world.
But yeah, so much going on in the sporting universe
and something you know, we kick ideas back and forth.
We've got a lot of good stuff, you know, moving
day do you call the unit group.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
We'll talk about that as we go through some of the.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
W NBA commentary and how it fits into the larger
sporting universe. But one of my dog walking things like,
you know, ponder the state of the universe. You know,
thankful for the day I got ahead of me. It
ain't always easy, but we we make it through, right,
And so you start thinking about these grander pictures and
when we when I circle back into our sporting universe
(03:37):
with some of these events going on, like we're talking
about Wimbledon, just watching the British Grand Prix, and it
really crystallizes, you know, when we go back and now
it's two weeks to the NBA title and how quickly,
like we celebrated the greatness of team right with that
Oklahoma City Thunder team because it's deep and shape. Make
(04:00):
sure to include all of the others in every interview everything.
The statue's gonna have eight guys. Good luck moving that
around without a couple of cranes. But all of that
to say, we go from team and we talk a
lot about team. We're gonna get into college football in
the NFL in short order. But that's split between the
psychology of individual sports, team sports. Why we're revered, why
(04:25):
we rank stuff. Thinking back to our feud and trying
to recall past champions of Wimbledon and things and I'm
spotty right, Like most of it you could look up
really fast, so I don't commit it to memory like
I used to. You know, you'd study up on the
sheets and make sure you had that knowledge. But watching
(04:45):
you know, the British Grand Prix here, and we've got
Wimbledon now on one of our TVs. We got the
Euro twenty five with Norway and Finland getting after it.
Nico Hulkenberg. And this is how I tie it all together,
Dice big bow in two HU hundred and thirty nine
career F one starts, had never made a podium now
thirty seven years old, straight out of Central casting, big smile,
(05:09):
he's got the Gordon Ramsey mapa hair, the whole thing.
He gets on the interview, charming as hell. Guys are
really you know where they normally just kind of walk
behind guys like no, no, no, this is his moment. Like
to stay out of the way and let him have
his moment. But that psychology of what keeps you going right, team,
there's always someone to blame. There's always you know what
we do in sports media, there's always reasons, excuses, but
(05:33):
you have to rely on other people to get it done.
That doesn't mean that for a race car driver or
a tennis professional or golf or any of that, you
don't have a team around you. But it's different, right,
It's you with a lot of what's going on in
your head, with some advice from your caddie, from your
your pit crew, whatever. But in the end, you live
(05:54):
and die about what you do in that performance, and
so that psychology of it and trying to break down
this guy, I mean, his team hadn't hit the podium
since twenty twelve, since twenty twelve.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Like you talk about, all right, are we gonna keep
doing this?
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Yeah? The same thing for golfers, same things for tennis players,
like wait, if you don't have that breakthrough, when do
you finally just decide I'm gone?
Speaker 4 (06:20):
I can tell you.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
In the NASCAR side of things, and I don't know
if it's the same with F one, just because I'm
not as well versed in it, but you have racing
companies that just aren't as big as others, and essentially
the goal is don't wreck the car, yep. Just get
your laps in, get your points, get what you need
to do.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Just don't wreck the car.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
And that's pressure, okay, But if you are just going
around and you're getting lapped. We see that a bunch,
whether it be NASCAR at the highest level truck series.
But there is something to the point of when you're
doing that speed and you're going to that level, like
(07:03):
of it is all on your shoulders. And I think
race teams, I think race teams are more like the
Oklahoma City Thunder than they are of Wimbledon and golf.
But just a lot of the end result happens with
the driver where if something were to go wrong, but
if you have a bad pit stop, if you're stuck
in that, you're bad. Change whatever the case is. It
(07:28):
is a team thing, but ultimately your name's on the
podium saying you finished eighth, even though you know the
guy didn't get the lug nut on as well. So
it's it is an interesting dynamic. There is a point
of there is a I almost think it's three phases,
like it's not just as black and white, because I
feel like someone at Wimbledon, and I feel tennis players
(07:50):
as well have gone through like the mental aspect more
maybe more visibly, you know, like Naomi Osaka was pretty
visible with some of the stuff that she was going
through and transparent. You don't really get that in team sports.
Kevin Love has talked about his battle with depression and
those sort of things, But when you're talking about the
(08:11):
just mental aspect of sports, like just looking at Wimbledon
right now and thinking of all the added pressure that
you put on yourself, thinking of an Oklahoma City Thunder team,
where thinking of a New York Knicks team, thinking how
Tyre's Halliburton probably feels that he let the entire state
of Indiana down. They're all all over that spectrum. And
(08:32):
I would almost Stephen say that there's three sides to
the story because of everything that goes into this.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Then you add the like some Owe Biles, we can
find those examples that we talk I'm redoing the rewatch
of ted Lass's so we take that into the fictional
world where he had a panic attack and left spoiler alert,
it's been out for two years.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
If you haven't seen it, you didn't care.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
But all of that to say, just the psychology of
sports and trying to break it down and try to
come at these stories. You know, we have our fan
moments right where you're shaking your fists when things don't.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Go your way.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
But pulling it back every once in a while for
the humanity of it all and trying to go through
the just the psychology of that moment, like you could
just see the relief on Hulkenberg's face, and for the
the kick sober because I had to look up Salber
make sure it wasn't saber like the thunder Mifflin extension
there of the office and everything. But it just when
(09:28):
when we talk about sports, right, it's it's team and
even here right McLaren finishes first and second and that's
great and they get their points. We talk about ownership groups. Me,
I'm still enamored with F one the movie, So some
of the strategic stuff when you talk about wrecking cars
and whatever that flow through, and it's just it just
hit me on the on the dog walk is something
(09:51):
that you know, to pull back from box scores and
final results, just the process going through.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
My kid plays a team sport.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
We're gonna go do that, but agonizing over every touch
that she has individually and what it could have led
to versus what it did versus.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
And just kind of watching through that lens.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
I look at it, and I look at the sport
of golf. Where it's tough to make it and there's
a lot of guys who can play, and it's really
difficult to make it. And then when you do make it,
you are in a world that you aren't familiar with.
And now there's these other aspects, whether it be you know,
(10:30):
club company, whether it be a peril sponsor that you
are now responsible to perform because.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
Of your previous success.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
There's the pressure of I got a place in this
tournament because I need money so I can make it
to the next tournament I got. I got to, you know,
make this cut at the lower levels. So then you
think that you make it, and that's everything that you've
been fighting for, and it's why you've slept in crappy
hotels and while you've slept in your car and you've
done all these things. Then you actually make it, and
(11:01):
you think that all of that stuff goes away. It
just comes in a different avenue. Now there are all
these people that you that are you know, responding to
you and replying to you, and the last thing that
you want to do is go back to the life
that you just left, So there's even more pressure to that.
There's yeah, it is. It is not easy and now
(11:22):
more and more the mental health aspect of what these
athletes are going through is becoming more prevalent than I
would say ten or fifteen years ago. But I would
also say that the pressures of everything seem to be
ramped up even more than they were ten or fifteen
years ago.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Yeah, to take it in to the space we've been
living in, I think it's three billion dollars ish have
been spent in NBA free agency and folks from pomone.
There's no massive names, a bunch of re signings, Shay
Gil just Alexander getting is near three hundred million dollars
and everything, But just the idea of what goes from that,
because immediately now you're judge based on a contry. And
(12:00):
if you I've always been one, I don't begrudge a
guy if you go take your money right. You talk
about the golfer and his roll up baseball, the number
of years you're under control making money but not really
making money. We've seen the exposs on minor league baseball
and everything else. But when a guy signs for a
big dollar and you say, well, he doesn't care about winning,
(12:21):
it's like he does. But I don't see what he's
doing behind the scenes to rehab his body to get
through whatever he was playing with or she was playing
with or whatever. Yeah, I can't begrudge them what they're
trying to do for their lives and moving forward. And
the old argument of how much is enough, Well, I
mean that we all make choices, we all have responsibilities,
(12:42):
and you have no idea what those finances are tied to.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Well, how much do you hear that when someone is
in a contract negotiation that has strung out and then
they get it agreed upon, that you hear, well, now
they can finally go and play ball.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
I think we use that phrase a lot.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Sure, And there's the two sides the coin were you're
using that contract as motivation to play at the high level.
So did you lose your motivation because you've now gotten paid?
I think that's the side that a lot of us
fall to when someone doesn't perform to that contract. Oh,
they got complacent, they got lazy, they just wanted to
(13:18):
get paid.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
And then there's you know.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
The other aspect, you know, other side of that of Okay,
now you get that contract and you have to live
up to that, like that's that's the other end of
the bargain.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
It all depends on where you see.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
You see that finish line, and talking about the different
levels of making it in golf, it's that would be
similar to the team sport aspect of it. Instead of
sacrificing all of this for your family, now you have
to sacrifice it for the team that you play for,
the city that you play for, your teammates around you.
There is a bigger responsibility. So just because you get
(13:57):
that deal doesn't mean that the pressure leaves you.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
A lot of shareholders, we all wish we had the
money and the stylings at times not ful of like it,
of the Phil Mickelson approach of I've got I'm good.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Sure I'm still going to gamble on the course. Well yeah,
literally and figuratively correct.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Correct, absolutely. I just I look at the young players today.
Is again the TV right in front of us is Wimbledon,
and Mike, I just look at I think it's more
difficult today because it's a car wash of athletes. How
many other young tennis players, Now we're not talking about
(14:36):
number one or number two in the world, but those
that advance and make it to Wimbledon that maybe are unseated.
How many how many other players are on the verge
of that a lot. So when you're represented by certain
companies or agencies, if you don't make it, they don't
care because they've got another player coming up that can
(14:57):
get that push. So then you feel even are alone
in your individual sport as an athlete, I think it
is tricky. We hear mental coaches all the time talking
about mental advantages to their on course game or on
court game, or whatever the case is. But nowadays you
think you just need it just for overall life into
(15:17):
navigating what some of these people have to go through.
By the way, flying in the private jets as top
players do is all stuff that can't necessarily relate to.
But I don't think that we can turn a blind
eye just because someone is getting certain advantages to say
that they aren't going through a lot, because I think
it's a lot different than what we believe.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
You're still in your headspace question, no matter what level
of success, no matter your job, however you're making it Threugh,
we appreciate you being part of the extended family. It
just was one of those dog walking I'm now at
a minute forty eight because he's found something he.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Wants to go through.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
So that was it, and focusing on some of these
individual opportunities that we've gotten from one of us here
between Wimbledon, the Grand Prix.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
And so on.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
But to your point in terms of the mental health
and can you avoid social media?
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Can you avoid?
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Because that's part of your job, right, Like, all of
that plays back into how you navigate these times. And
certainly what we do on radio and television at Dan
Byron Fox is where you find them. Find me over
at Swollen Dome, home field advantage and home opportunities. For
some teams they're pondering moving what's at the motivation? Just

Hey, welcome back in Fox Sports Sunday. Fox Sports Radio.
Gurvy got a Sunday morning. So much going on in
the sporting universe. F one race already, and you know
they got Lego trophies.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
Dan Byer.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
I did not know that.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
Giant Lego trophies.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Hopefully I can buy a replica of its soon enough,
because they were glorious.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
Tell us not to date myself or to show you
how unhip I was, but I saw Lego plants the
first time a couple of months ago, and I thought.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
It was amazing.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
And my sister was like, oh, yeah, they've had those
for a while, and I'm like, well, that's actually kind
of neat.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
It's a cool extension of the product. Yes, correct, you
know you can I the me at one of the
giant box scores. They have a box stores. They have
a couple of box Scores box stores. They have a
couple of those varietals that you can buy, you know,
if you want to put them up in bulk.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
Thought it was unique, Yeah, I kind of dasa art.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Yeah, well, and then you can actually do lego of
artwork too.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Some of the masters and then their errors have said
how do we squeeze more money out of this? And
they signed off to lego. I'm thinking about building the
Orca to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Jaws soon enough.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
But we talked about moving day, and you know, you and.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
I talking about summer road trips and all of this
fun stuff, and a couple of teams in the NFL
are pondering massive moves. Because I'm a nerd. Once we
started going back and forth on this, yeah, I sat
and I started scrolling all sorts of random stuff out
about downs, distances and dollars and cents.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
But you know, we talk about legacy and.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
History and something being a bit of a lost art
in our sports, right Major League Baseball, we love some
of thets we get for interleague play, but it still
seems a little sortid, you know, when we have the
all right, here's the random White Sox three day visit
to Dodger Stadium. It's not a playoff game. We're not
(19:13):
in the World Series. It's not the all right, you're
playing this division or whatever like you wouldn't other sports,
not in others. It's now part of it, right DH rule.
People complain about whatever, but it's just the legacy. We
talk about long standing college rivalries and maybe not being
on the board right. A lot of talk here in
(19:33):
Los Angeles USC and Notre Dame does that get torn
asunder after all of these years? But we also talk
about teams being part of the community, like we just
were right, and you know, you're beholding to the stakeholders,
the people that watch, the people that are butts in
seats whatever. And I brought up Unit Group before, while
that's the parent company of Mayflower Moving.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
And we've all seen.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
The documentary of undercover of Night of saying see Ya
and Move and NFL teams and moving, and right now
we've got Shay's Cleveland Browns, my beloved Chicago Bears, the
Buffalo Bills. All LA used to be the thing you
could threatened with we're gonna move to LA, Like, well,
you can't do that to try to squeeze municipality money anymore.
(20:17):
So now it becomes the all right, what's our next
big play? And while SOFI is still the blueprint, because
you look at the opportunity for concerts, for land, for
parking and all of those things, that become more about
anything but.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Football, correct, And that's kind of where we're at.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
I went and I looked at the home records for
the last twenty five years of the three teams involved
in this process, there's a.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
Lot of that three and five For Cleveland, I've noticed them.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Yeah, they've had a good run of late, which is
actually kind of interesting considering how bad they've been. But
it's just funny overall. You know, that's one of the considerations,
you know we were talking about, you know where, whether
you're playing on a surface a court or racing on
a track that you have familiarity with.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Golf, we watch it all the time like, oh, this
guy's coming home.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
He's going to give me a good effort in the
four rounds there, right, But for these moving details. You know,
there's a lot of a lot of screaming, but a
lot of politics gets in move.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Yeah, the state of Ohio just to prove their budget
which would give six hundred million dollars to the Cleveland
Browns to build their new indoor stadium outside of downtown
Cleveland in brook Park.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
It would be the specific location.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
So the Cleveland Browns are another step closer to leaving
downtown on their outdoor facility for an indoor facility. How
long have the Chicago Bears been battling with the City
of Chicago and Arlington Heights and trying to figure out
not battling with Arlington Heights because that's where they could
be moving, but the conversation of Chicago and the Bears
(21:55):
moving from the shores of Lake Michigan to suburban Chicago
for an indoor facility that would host other events aside
from Bears football. And you have the Buffalo Bills, who
are about to play their final season at Highmark Stadium
and their new facility, which I think will be named
the same right next door, will open in twenty twenty six.
(22:19):
But the rage or the craze that we felt for
a while mic was let's build a facility, so then
we can bring all of these things in outside of football. Well,
the Buffalo Bills with Josh Allen at quarterback are a
legit Super Bowl contender and have been for the last
four or five years. And what do you know, when
(22:41):
Buffalo was searching for a stadium for so long, the
team starts winning, a stadium deal gets done, and fans
now end up showing up to Bill's mafia, crazy the
whole deal. Not that they weren't fans before, but now
you're playing winning football, you're playing playoff football, and I
just think that the weather conditions in Buffalo aren't too
(23:05):
much different than on the lakes, on the on the
shores of Lake Michigan, you know, in Cleveland as well,
on the shores of Lake Erie. And now those teams
are moving to or looking to move out of downtown.
It's just a theory, Mike. But if the Bears were
(23:26):
good in winning playoff games and playing in Soldier Field
with your brothers sitting at their seats of the fifty
yard line under the overhang, don't you think you would say, well,
you got you got to build an outdoor facility like
this is this is Bears football, and I don't think
that they've had that outside of the double doink. The
Rex Grossman years are way in the past. Heck, even
(23:49):
the run fifteen years ago, you know with Cutler and
like those are those are long gone. And I think
I feel the same thing with Cleveland is if you
had winning football teams, I don't think you'd be looking
to build dome stadiums. And I think it's easy to say, look,
we can bring final fours, we can bring super Bowls here.
Talk to Minneapolis, talk to Indianapolis, talk to Jerry Jones.
(24:15):
How many super Bowls have you gotten when you've built
your stadium, You've gotten one. The NFL is are going
to make Cleveland a stop on the Super Bowl Roda.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
It's just not going to happen.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
And if you think final fours are gonna happen regularly,
I would even caution to that. Sure, Phoenix has gotten
into the mix, Houston's been hosting final fours, but I
don't think it's necessarily you're going to get a Final
four every five years or six years if you build
that new stadium. So then you're like, well, then what's
(24:48):
the point of it. If you can have an outdoor.
If you can have Kenny Chesney come in July to
your outdoor stadium, what's the point. My whole theory is this,
if the Bears and Browns would have played better football,
they wouldn't be moving to the suburbs. They wouldn't be
building indoor facility stadiums because we'd be talking about Man,
it'd be great. The Bears the brand new stadium outdoor
(25:08):
deal with the Elements people. My theory is because the
Bill's won, they're staying outdoors. They also realized nobody's gonna
come to Buffalo. They're not gonna bring a Super Bowl
here every six years. Final Fours aren't coming to Buffalo.
We really don't even have the infrastructure to hold something
like that. So let's just take care of the Bills.
If the Browns and Bears were winning, I think that
they would take care of them that way.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
Yes, they I think some of it comes back to.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Selling people on spending public money on a losing proposition.
Right the Bears moving to Arlington Heights. And again, because
I don't sleep and I got into my nerddom, you've
got the fun and excitement on the on Lake Michigan
right now, where you're at with Soldier Fields. A Soldier
field is that you're on a very small plot of land, right,
(25:56):
And I remember when they built that spaceship on it.
Once you walk into Soldier Field, it's gorge now. But
the first time I drove down Lake Shore Drive going
home to visit my brothers after the renovation had been complete,
which is funny because there's an asterisk on my bears
years because they had to play in Champagne or after
those couple of years is that they did that renovation,
and I about wept.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
I had to pull over my car the first time I.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
Saw I've seen red rings, I've seen all that, right,
the columns are still there, the history of the structure,
but again going back to traditions or whatever. But then
it looks like a toilet bowl was put over there,
Like it looks like a giant toilet bowl. At this point,
as you're outside, you get inside, you see the amenities great,
but you can't expand the stadium and there's no money
for parking. Right, It's like the Lakers just sold here.
(26:43):
What's always been the thing. It's a mom and pop organization.
Now you get Walter, the Guggenheim Group, whatever. Now you
can do a lot of stuff. I think that's what
when the city's not going to play ball with you.
Because the last I looked in all the legalies for
the Arlington Heights complex, the former race course turned in
future site with acres and acres of land, is you
(27:07):
don't they're not looking for public money for that. They
want them to build in the infrastructure around it. So
fix these roads that have been under construction for the
last forty five years, maybe extend another line of public
transport over the next decade, whatever. But it becomes that
fight for public money, right It's like, wait, you're gonna
build how much into taxes for a team that's gonna
(27:27):
go you know, three and fourteen every third year.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
I mean, look at look at histories.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
Literally it's just the home records four and five, five
and three, two and seven. You mentioned the Cutler year,
you got a seven and one, and then you go
back to oh five, you got a seven to one.
You got a lot five hundred home slates. Which is
why going through Cleveland was kind of funny because they
actually kind of win there. But but it's still the
same idea though you're not winning at a high enough rate,
(27:54):
So can we make more money doing elsewhere? Like you
mentioned Kenny Chesney, it's you know, it's funny because actually
gonna be here in Sofi. I think George Strait's next week,
and then there's something Chesney there was just here.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
He was at the Sphere in Vegas. Whatever.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
But just the idea that you have six more months
of concert, which also means sixty to one hundred dollars
per parking spot that the team's now getting, whereas right
now the park district owns Soldier Shure, you're not getting
any money there. They can host a bunch of other events,
you get a pittance because you're you know, tacit agreements
(28:28):
and whatever, and you don't get any of the parking
because it's they've got this giant land mass around it
in park, so people come all other ways the l
and then walk over bus and walk over like it
fuels potentially that infrastructure spending that you can't do now.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
I think like in Chicago and what they were gonna
build around it, and everybody's like shops and restaurants like
that's the that's the whole poll.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
I just it may be a.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
Very simplistic thought, but it's just of if they were winning,
I think that you would find a way to be like, well,
wait a second, we just want to We just won
a game where it was two degrees and we beat
a rival of Pittsburgh Steelers. If I'm talking about the Browns.
You know in this you know, amazing cold weather game
and the fans loved it and everybody was going crazy.
(29:18):
And now you want to put us in a dome,
in a.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
Dome twenty miles, yeah, fifty miles or what is it
twenty twenty eight miles in Chicago.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
It distancing clues. Yes, yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
It reminds me of how we viewed astro turf as
well mic with these indoor facilities, because astro turf when
it was first brought amazing, look at this, you can
play indoors. And then by the mid nineteen eighties, late
nineteen eighties, you're like, my goodness, what is happening to
my knees? What happened to all these athletes? Let's try
(29:49):
to get away from AstroTurf. So now there was a
push to go to natural grass in so many places.
Then guess what we can make fake grass turf. It's like,
but we just take a bunch of tires and rubber
and throw it in. But it's just like it's better
than grass. Now as we're finding out, no, it's not
necessarily better than not necessarily better than grass. And I
(30:12):
feel that's the same way with this is like, look,
whole new indoor stadium. Look at this facility, Look at
what you can build, Look at all the things that
you can do for the community. Look at what we're
gonna build in all this space. And then fifteen years
down the line, you're like, why are the Browns playing indoors?
It just doesn't make any sense, Like we're not. Maybe
we're not. Maybe they've got a better plan to bring
(30:35):
in events. But I just know when you look at Minnesota,
when you look at Indianapolis, when you look at these
places that have built stadiums to try to get those
big events, they don't come back as often as you
think that they do. And it's easy to say, hey,
we're going to be the home to all of these events.
Well I'm not so sure of that.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Yeah, I just wonder how much of it becomes the
seat at the table right you're known into the I'm
trying to go into the kind of a legislation legislator
of how do I sell this to my constituents? Sure, right,
I mean, and that's part of it is then the
why do I have to pay money for a loser?
Speaker 7 (31:10):
So we have all of that Chris Profets, Yeah, just
thinking on this too, because I know, like also Detroit,
you know, they built Ford Field, they got a Super
Bowl pretty quick, and that was always the policy. But
obviously you're not going to come back to Detroit for
a super Bowl anytime soon. But I also wonder guys
like as other municipalities see these measures failing in other cities,
(31:33):
and other cities telling some teams like no, we're not
going to give you billions in public money. If that
does create a bit of a snowball effect too, where
other cities then get in bold and it's like, oh yeah,
we don't need a cave to the pressure of this.
We're not under threat of losing a team because these
other these other guys over here have told them to
kick rocks.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
So to Mike's point, with La off the board, I
think that it probably tightened the screws for the NFL.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
So LA and Vegas being off the board.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
Yeah, yeah, so there's only so many places that they
could they could go to. So to that point, uh, maybe, yeah,
because I think that the other teams always the league
always had the out of La in Vegas, and now
they don't. I remember the Twins, you know, the Twins
moved from the when the metro dom needed to be replaced.
I mean, it's not like Minnesotan. You know, whether in
(32:19):
Minneapolis in April is awesome, but it was cheaper to
build without a roof, you know, so they build a
beautiful target field. Downtown works great, But the Vikings in
US Bank, that's you know, indoors. Like there's decisions that
that you end up having to make for certain reasons.
And I just feel that the Browns and Pairs, if
they would play winning football, wouldn't we wouldn't be so
(32:42):
cool with them playing indoors. That's just my theory.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
No, I'm with you. I appreciate that, Chris.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
Yeah, I think the point is right right when we
talk about you know, once you set that precedent, and
then obviously the leaders in charge then have to, you know,
to make sure the maths still maths, because now folks
have to go travel to these teams. You might be
the one that lost and your party on to be
(33:09):
the tea, you know, the party that lost in certain
team here to the suburbs and all those.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
By the way, the new stadium just looks like an
enormous barn dominium. Like that's what it looks like. I
don't get it, and I get it at all.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
Some of the renderings, like I've always advocated for a
museum of would be stadium's proposals here in La all
the ones that failed, Remember all those press conferences.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
One out in the city of Industry.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
Here's the one, Mike Carson.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
We're gonna take over from where the goodyear blimp was, Yes,
and so on and so forth. He's Dan Byro on
my carment. That's Chris Pophan over there, Shay, our executive producer.
Now we kick it over to the news desk, our guy,
Isaac Lowangron. On a busy holiday Sunday. What's going on,
real busy. We've got a real good match going on
right now.
Speaker 8 (33:59):
In the four fourth round at Wimbledon, one seed Arena
Sabolenka captured the first seed over Belgium's Elisa Mertens six',
Four but right now they are in a tie break
in the second, set And sabolenka is one point away
from winning the, match in, fact she just did seconds.

drought than what The braves are about to.
Speaker 7 (38:22):

Speaker 10 (39:09):
Hosted An All star. Games arizona's definitely done. It never
hosted in An All Star. Game i'm trying to think
of like a non baseball city from that put, perspective.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
Just looking for the.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
Team so one of the teams In Major League baseball's
never hosted An All Star.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
Game let's go A, rockies all? Right is it The?
Rockies it's not the.
Speaker 3 (39:35):

Speaker 3 (40:00):
SHOULDN'T I i'll say, this we don't have a lot
of time there are only seven answers on the board on,
this but it's a tougher, game so we can we
can hold this. Over But i'll Say i'll just say,
this two of the teams from one of the leagues
THAT i mentioned are in the same.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
Division how about that in the same, division so you
can chew on. That we can we can finish.
Speaker 3 (40:23):

at the, time being part of the extended, family whether
we're making you, laugh making you, think or maybe you're
shaking your fist and anchor over SOMETHING i, said BECAUSE

Speaker 4 (41:16):
Way.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
Uh probably intentional in the, moment but, YEAH i regret
things like everybody.
Speaker 1 (41:21):

Speaker 2 (41:23):
Byron fox where you find find. Me over At Swollen,
dome we Watched sabolenca take care Of. Business we were
a couple seconds Behind ILO's Feed, dan SO i was
a little, salty like, this this is all for why
AM i watching?
Speaker 1 (41:34):
This it's LIKE i was on tape.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
Delay two hours later at a concert and SAYING i
don't want to find, out and.
Speaker 3 (41:40):
Then your buddy texts you, man what an. Ending, wow
that was.
Speaker 11 (41:43):
Spectacular final point hat what a fifth set although the
women only play three and she went in straight sets Straight, yeah,
expected but, yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
Finishing finishing the. Job it's been a wild. Run At,
simpleton we had THE f One Grand. Prix talked about
all the large concerts going on in the globe and
my rapt attention and things like. THAT i almost, Said,
RAPTOR i haven't Seen Jurassic park yet it's on the
list of things to, do but so much in our sporting,
(42:17):
Universe dan and we got vexed on the, feud AND
i THINK i was about ready to strike us out
when you threw your body in front of me like
you were a secret serviceman trying to protect.
Speaker 3 (42:30):
ME i realized THAT i did not put you guys
in a favorable spot like this is a really tough,
question even though there are only thirty, answers and really
there's twenty nine because.
Speaker 4 (42:40):
They gave you the.
Speaker 3 (42:41):
Braves, sure and so that's why we're looking for The
All Star.
Speaker 1 (42:45):
Game one THOUGH i like.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
It The Major League baseball teams that have the longest
drafts of hosting A Major League Baseball All Star.
Speaker 7 (42:52):
GAME i THINK i have an idea of the team
that has never hosted. It but at the same, TIME
i also don't want to be the one to strike.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
Us, Well i'll tell you. This i'll tell you this
already have The. Rays so The rays were the team
that never hosted, it so they're off the. Board so
The Rays a's In Blue jays were the three Teams
a's in eighty, Seven Blue jayson ninety. One The rays
have never done so so there are four teams, left
(43:18):
And i'll give you this, hint think of teams that
could be in line to host Future All Star. Games and,
no that's not much of a. Hint but some of
these droughts are about to end because of where The
All Star game is. Headed So Mike, harmon we go
over to.
Speaker 2 (43:38):
You the sort of damnicles hanging over me might cut
that wire and have it fall.
Speaker 1 (43:45):
Down what about The?
Speaker 4 (43:47):
Brewers The, brewers it has been a? While is?
Speaker 2 (43:51):
It?
Speaker 3 (43:52):
Milwaukee two and? Two just? Time just on the other
other end of, it we have three. Strikes but the,
ballparks by the, way are amazing that haven't hosted The
All Star game in a long.
Speaker 4 (44:09):
Time So, Pittsburgh No.
Speaker 3 (44:11):
Pittsburgh About Wrigley. Field Wrigley field is yet show me The.
Cubs that was going to be my guess for the
one that's nineteen, Ninety wrigley could get the game Ninety,
yeah twenty twenty. Seven it's believed The cubs will get
The All Star game in twenty twenty, six next Year's
All Star. Game this has been announced for a while
because Of america's two hundred and fiftieth. Birthday it's going
(44:33):
to be In, philadelphia and The phillies haven't hosted a nine,
Six So philadelphia is off the. Board and then you
think of when you think of ballparks you want to,
visit you go on a ballpark, tour if you were
to go across the, country what ballparks are we naming.
Speaker 1 (44:50):
From nine ninety?
Speaker 4 (44:52):
Nine?
Speaker 1 (44:53):
Yep so The All century team was the last time they.
Speaker 3 (44:56):
Were, correct the last time it was In, boston and
then the other. One this is shocking considering how MUCH
i think we all love this Ballpark. Baltimore The orioles
haven't hosted. It wow about?
Speaker 10 (45:08):
That?
Speaker 5 (45:09):
So?
Speaker 4 (45:09):
Wait was was that In?
Speaker 1 (45:10):
Camden In?
Speaker 7 (45:11):
Nice So camden was around in ninety?
Speaker 4 (45:13):
Three?
Speaker 2 (45:13):
Correct, yeah because that's the ballpark The White sox were
supposed to. Build this goes back to our conversation Last,
hour download the. Podcast wherever you get your, podcast give
it five, Stars, evangelized will love you. Forever but going
back to taking city, money The White sox built what
was then supposed to be a multi purpose. Facility so
when folks went in the upper deck seemed like it
was miles from. Anywhere all the concerts started going To
(45:37):
Wrigley sure with a bunch of variances off their stadium
as well As Soldier. Field so eventually it got retro
fitted into a. Ballpark but by then nobody. Cared But
Camden yards was supposed to be In.
Speaker 4 (45:48):
CHICAGO, yep is it still guaranteed rate or?
Speaker 1 (45:51):
What is it just? Rate they got rid of the guaranteed.
Speaker 4 (45:55):
Didn't guarantee the rate.
Speaker 2 (45:56):
Anymore, No, no they just decided market fluctuations man.
Speaker 3 (46:00):
Rate Rob manfred has said in previous comments that if
The cubs aren't official for twenty twenty, seven but it
sure seems like. That he also said previously in talking
about The All Star game that he feels The All
Star games that he's likely to award as commissioner Are
chicago And toronto would get one in maybe twenty twenty.
Eight so The Blue jays were on this list as
(46:22):
it's been since nineteen ninety. One only there have been
a few one. Timers toronto is a one, Timer The
diamondbacks are a one timer in twenty, eleven and then
The marlins twenty seventeen when they got the new stadium.
Again build a new. Stadium guess what you? Get you
get all these, events.
Speaker 2 (46:38):
Right get Your Super? Bowl get your and that's we're
gonna talk. About we're going to tie this to another
big topic that's been swirling about. Here but, first, hey
shortly after the, Show shay's gonna put up the. Podcast
if you've missed any of today's, show including me sounding
like a dope On All Star, history be sure to
check out the. Podcast Search Fox Sports radio wherever he gets.
Podcast be sure to follow, rate review, it give it
five stars. Again Search Fox sports wherever you get your.
(47:00):
Podcast look For Fox Sports. Weekends look For Fox Sports
Sunday buyer And harmon and you'll find us there right
after we get off of the. Air, also That boston
tour is pretty. Good The Fenway park tour is certainly worth.
Doing you get. IT i mean you See sam alone stuff,
too so you get a little bit of all of.
That one of the stories that's. Circulating and we talked
(47:22):
about MOVING nfl franchise's last hour talking a little. Bit,
now build the, stadium it will come right A Super bowl.
Whatever Sophie cunningham maybe putting her foot in her mouth
or maybe just kind of saying the quiet part out
loud for players and advocating because there's a lot of
battles going on the NEW cba to come for THE,
Wnba so a lot of talk about, money but we
(47:45):
also had the expansion franchises, announced and she, said, WELL
i don't know how much people are gonna want to
go To, detroit how much people want to go to
some of these cities that we're looking.
Speaker 1 (47:58):
At we'd rather go To.
Speaker 2 (47:59):
Nashville we'd rather do, This and again the sexy names
versus trusting the fact that people have done their due
diligence on the business and economics of your. Sport nobody
denies that those are fun and places to. Go everybody
loves a nice trip To, nashville go see some country,
music plenty of, restaurants, bars and tourists things to go check.
(48:19):
Out but to this, point obviously the math didn't work
in this. Iteration whatever assurances these municipalities are going to,
provide but this sparked a bit of. Outroar she was
getting the crest of love after Defending Caitlin clark and
then immediately comes back to, hey you hate our, city, Man, well.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
Yeah And cincinnati caught astray because she Said detroit And,
cincinnati and since that it's, like, oh.
Speaker 1 (48:45):
We don't even have a.
Speaker 4 (48:46):
Team why are you grouping us in with?
Speaker 3 (48:48):
This But detroit And, cleveland we're two of the teams
that are GETTING wnba expansion. Franchises philadelphia getting another in
the announcements that were made earlier this, week But detroit
And cleveland were. UP i think that they. Were, listen
you're A midwest. Guy i'm A midwest. GUY i get.
It LIKE i love the charm Of. Milwaukee if it
(49:11):
has any, charm it is what it. IS i Love
cleveland because guess, what it kind of reminds me Of.
Milwaukee you, Know pittsburgh's a magnificent.
Speaker 4 (49:21):
City it Is.
Speaker 3 (49:22):
Detroit same thing with The cleveland And milwaukee. Deal AS
i like it because it's. FAMILIAR i get it's not for.
EVERYONE i don't like them going To detroit for the
reason Of detroit's already a four team City, Lions, Tigers,
pistons And Red, wings AND i feel you get more
(49:43):
mileage sometimes if you aren't lost in that four team.
Shuffle So nashville works because you have The titans and The.
Predators The grizzlies are In. Memphis there's not going to
be AN nba. Team maybe someday there will be a
baseball team In. NASHVILLE i don't think that's What Sophie
cunningham was thinking when she was, Saying AND i think
she was, Like, oh where DO i want to live.
Speaker 1 (50:04):
Where maybe the tax is? Good where DO i have
a good?
Speaker 3 (50:06):
Time it's a three month, season it's four month, season,
Okay LIKE i have more empathy, for you, know nine
month seasons and guys who end up having to to
live in those cities that maybe they. AREN'T i know
it's easy to pile on some of Those midwest, cities
but some of them have. CHANGED i Know detroit feels
like it's going to be a big, boost but let's be,
(50:27):
honest adding a W nba team In, detroit it's not
going to change the the face of the, city, right
you know that's. Honestly it's The lions And tigers And
pistons that can do. That and The pistons may be
doing it as soon, as you, know continuing what the
lines have, done as soon as next. YEAR i JUST
I i Like Oklahoma, city you, know wins THEIR nba.
(50:50):
Title one team, TOWN i know how they got. It
not great if you're the W, nba why go to
the places that are maxed. Out why don't you go
to untapped. Places i'm not saying crazy, spots But, Austin,
texas place Like, nashville like those. Places that's WHERE i
thought that they should have gone to kind of carve
(51:10):
out their niche instead of maybe going to places where
you had PREVIOUS wnba, teams but now they aren't.
Speaker 2 (51:16):
Located whether they add previous teams or just to your,
point the saturation of the, competition, right we talk, about you,
know The indiana fever and we had a huge run
with obviously The pacers, here but it's a basketball, state Right,
indiana we think basketball and even going through as it
(51:38):
ties back to what we were talking about an hour
ago when we're talking about future, dates future, sites we
look at the future of the final, Four indianapolis coming
up in twenty, six then To, detroit then To, vegas
then back To, indianapolis then TO at AND T stadium
In dallas and then To. Atlanta so in terms of airing,
(52:00):
team you're you're, Wrong like it goes back to. Traditions
how much do we honor that and how much do
we move away from? It right For indiana to to
your point and what we were talking, before of trying
to bring in other big events and making your own
sport its own big. Event and right now at W,
nba you're riding a crest uh and a wave of
(52:22):
all these new. Players like part of me is always
wondering how much do you tap into the collegiate markets
that that aren't necessarily served right where we're like a
team In.
Speaker 1 (52:33):
Iowa you, know you know makes makes, sense, right.
Speaker 4 (52:38):
So you, know you know The Connecticut sun are.
Speaker 3 (52:44):
In W nba team THAT i think we're having troubles,
financially BUT i think you had the backing at one
point Of casino and sure now with, you you would
Think yuka, oh, yukon they love. Basketball that doesn't necessarily
work in that. Scenario indiana does because but you know
(53:05):
The fever, again aren't trying eighteen thousand unless.
Speaker 4 (53:07):
They don't Have.
Speaker 3 (53:08):
Caitlineah, SURE i get, it AND i get standing, up
sticking up for the cities And detroit firing back At Sophie.
Cunningham Sophie cunningham's argument just lost me at The miami
portion of, it just because that THAT'S i don't think
that that's a you, know A i wouldn't think of
Like america's greatest sports towns and Put miami as part
(53:30):
of that.
Speaker 2 (53:30):
Conversation, YEAH i would look at it from a player's
perspective OF i can go save my ten percent going.
Right BUT i mean it's a consideration we've had to
add to all the what what Free what do these
free agents want to? Do Right When Kevin, durant you,
know was making his, list we joked about. It it's
like he wants to go To florida or To texas
(53:51):
to lose that two and a half percent of the
income text that he had and obviously basketball, considerations but
like we try to juggle. That and For Sophie, cunningham
for the W nba, players they're they're getting ready for
a giant boost right in their monies as we go
to the NEXT cba of all of these, processes while
their leadership has to fight off the conflict of interest.
(54:14):
CHARGES i thought that was an interesting back and forth
because you have the unrivaled league that plays in the off,
time so trying to figure out how you feed one
and and the. Other AND i can understand where folks
might say how it's like none of the two separate
entities trying to achieve the same goal push women's, basketball
and if you're getting fed from multiple, pots then then
(54:37):
you're you're double dipping and you're trying to win. Twice
it's like us picking up an extra shift on the
radio or someone, saying, hey can you stay an extra
two hours at your.
Speaker 1 (54:46):
Job you're not hurting. Anything, yeah we want, more.
Speaker 3 (54:50):
More more and, more and the just The sophie cunning
had more of a point of expanding was a better
point of expanding too?
Speaker 1 (54:57):
Fast, well but THAT i like that point.
Speaker 3 (54:59):
On, yeah as opposed to to naming the, CITIES i get.
It i'd take it personally as. Well IF i WAS
i was In detroit And. CLEVELAND i JUST i feel
like there's this fresh energy with the w n B
a and you have you have an opportunity to be,
picky right because of all of the bids that you got,
(55:23):
in one of which was From. Nashville, ultimately it doesn't
go to a community like that goes to the regional
it's also the regional, Place. Mike it doesn't feel like
it's expanding when it's when you have two teams that
are that are. Closer, yes, absolutely, YEAH i mean, Yeah
(55:45):
i'm Trying cleveland lost their team because nobody would buy
it the first time, around like to keep it.
Speaker 4 (55:52):
There, sure and.
Speaker 3 (55:53):
They WERE i think they were a decent team that
we all remember The rockers And shock left For. Tulsa
that did. Work they became The Dallas swings now where
it's worked. Out i'm not huge on ON wnba. EXPANSION
i get what she was saying, somewhat but when you're
she even tried to couch It mike by, Saying i'm From.
(56:14):
MISSOURI i play In, indianapolis SO i don't have This
midwest city you, know angst towards or anything against those.
Cities BUT i get. It if it Helps, detroit. Awesome
if it Helps, cleveland, fine, Well lebrons are moving out of,
Town SO i don't. KNOW i don't know what's it's gonna.
Speaker 4 (56:35):
Help.
Speaker 2 (56:35):
Now one of my favorite quotes from a movie goes
back to the two thousand and eight classic From Christopher,
Nolan The Dark, knight and you have the scene and
The joker And Heath ledger portraying it, brilliantly not Quite
Jack nicholson worthy in my. Mind see WHAT i did.
There you're gonna argue about that if you don't listen
to anything. ELSE i say, here but he's, like he
breaks the pool que off and we have room for
(56:56):
aggressive expansion and says make it fast because he's only
taken one of the two. Guys you can guess how
how that. Ends but the idea Of Sophie, CUNNINGHAM i
think the best part was what you you emphasized there
was we gotta be. Careful everything else was. Bluster it's
like you buried your your best point in terms of
(57:18):
cautioning against rising too fast and maybe these teams not
even being able to be supported given past. Failures, right
you've got a very short window where this is now
starting to. Cook sometimes you want to let. IT i
mean it's, like you, know putting a brisket on the.
Grill you're not putting that on at five. Hundred, man they're,
slow let, it let it burgle.
Speaker 3 (57:38):
It, yes they're in, play like THE wnba is in.
Play they could play that slow, game to your, point
but THE wnba chose not.
Speaker 1 (57:47):
To NOW i want brisk.
Speaker 2 (57:48):

Speaker 4 (58:50):
RUN i thought it. Was they ruled it a double
end up ruling that a. Double, YES i thought it was.
GONE i thought it.
Speaker 3 (58:56):
Was gone on replay the one dumb AM i, yeah
the one thing THAT i THAT i, WELL i.
Speaker 1 (59:01):
Saw the replay THEN i walked away AS i reviewed.
Speaker 3 (59:03):
It So mike said that right, now like the sun
looks so hot In, ATLANTA i couldn't tell if it
was the reflection of the paneling that they had on
top of the brick, wall or if it was actually
a white line bal you, know to show what it.
Was but it's still to nothing but the runner on
Third now for The braves trying to trying to claw
(59:26):
back against The, origas.
Speaker 2 (59:26):
Get him, on get him, over get him. In you
know if the did he steal third base up with a? Two?
Speaker 6 (59:32):
No?
Speaker 4 (59:32):
No take? Up, yeah takeed up on a flabball the.
Speaker 2 (59:35):
Right, Sorry i'm trying to inject a little bit of
the the fun because of all the crying done on
the attempted steal by The White sox the other day
During Clayton kershaw's, Game like The White sox are supposed
to just roll, over even even with a, lead and
just let things play.
Speaker 1 (59:51):
Out it's like. History, no they need an extra. Run
they're The White. Sox and as, evidence it was.
Speaker 3 (59:57):
Not enough and The White sox going for the sweep
today In denver against we.
Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
Found the team the worst penny of all of. It
WHILE i do reference my Beloved White, SOX i would
be remiss IF i didn't at least take a quick
moment to acknowledge the greatness and the passing Of Bobby,
jenks the closer from my two thousand and Five White
sox squad THAT i love so. Much canerico and all
(01:00:22):
those guys on that, squad he closed it. Out he
used to get the big symbol From ozzie Gie in
when it was time to go To Bobby, jenks and
he passed away stomach. Cancer today's the anniversary of His
major league. Debut wow from that, Year so you, know
tough story forty four years. Old just always a reminder
(01:00:43):
you got an opportunity to go do some great things,
Today so do.
Speaker 7 (01:00:46):
It.
Speaker 3 (01:00:46):
Yeah for as much as we celebrate the fourth Of
july with everything that's going, on that was that awful
news and also the awful news with the flooding that's
been going on In, texas unbelievable outside Of San antonio
And curville and other can't fathom what they're going through
and SEEING i know it's affected you Know austin as,
(01:01:07):
well but those images and it just hearts go out to.
Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
Them, yeah just be safe out, there take care of
each other and make the most of your. Day, obviously
we're enjoying the greatness that is The Sports morgasboard here
And i'll be doing that a little bit this week as,
well a little bit of travel for my kids' soccer.
Fund but don't, Worry i'll still be chiming in and
yelling at people along the. Way one of the things
we've been doing week to, Week dan is doing our fantasy,
(01:01:35):
preview going division to. Division we're in THE Afc north
for this week's edition and got some heavyweights at each,
position but curious for one particular. Quarterback we talked about
him in the, past BUT i don't know though we
put a fantasy ranking on.
Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
Him what do you do With Aaron.
Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
RODGERS i think there are top three intriguing team fantasy.
Wise i'm not saying scoring wise are going to be
top THREE, mic but on who do you bet? On
AND i Think rogers is a good. Question but, nowadays
in terms of When i'm looking at a quarterback and
Where i'm looking around THE, nfl you at least have
(01:02:12):
to be, mobile And Aaron rodgers was at one point
in his.
Speaker 4 (01:02:15):
Career he is no.
Speaker 3 (01:02:17):
Longer he is no longer The Aaron rodgers that we
saw a decade or a decade and a half. Ago
so despite the new shiny toy Of john New smith
AND Dk metcalf being, THERE i think that there's a.
Ceiling there's no way he's going to be my. STARTER
i am not big On Aaron rodgers as a legit
(01:02:38):
weekend week out starter In fantasy football.
Speaker 2 (01:02:41):
And Current fantasy pros number twenty. Eight so that means
whatever game's, played if you were a betting, man you'd
say you'd take the under and then you push from.
There and you also have no faith In Arthur smith
and this working out a bigger.
Speaker 3 (01:02:56):
Shop even if he was, Higher, mike there isn't the
upside of cracking the top. Ten, Yeah so even if
he was, SIXTEEN i would be, Like, okay, OKAY i
can see. It you think he's going to be better
Than Trevor. Lawrence that's totally, fine, sure completely, reasonable but
it Doesn't it's still he wouldn't Be he wouldn't be
higher than you know in my, LIKE i Think jordan
(01:03:18):
Love is is better justin Fields Rock purty guys who
are in that ten to fifteen range right, NOW i
would much rather have those guys instead Of Aaron.
Speaker 4 (01:03:28):
Rodgers you with me on.
Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
That hundred, Percent, he's to me an undraftable Unless i'm
in a deeper league Where i'm just stashing available.
Speaker 4 (01:03:37):
Quarterbacks what do you think of The steelers tight? Ends?
Speaker 3 (01:03:40):
Like is it Because Johnny smith's now there And Arthur
smith he? BENEFITS i, mean you can't Expect Johnny smith
to do what he.
Speaker 4 (01:03:46):
Did In miami because he was really darn.
Speaker 2 (01:03:48):
Good but, yeah eighty eight catches a year? Ago what
eight hundred and fifty? Yards red zone efficiency is always
the big, question and how guys are going to get.
Fed we Know rogers does love to use the and
problem is you also Have Pat fryarmouth. There so unless
something moves and changes in that, structure you're look At
(01:04:09):
johnny's got to be a back end one and Then
Friar muth becomes the all right if he gets If
smith is hurt or we start seeing the installation of
A New England patriots type. Offense, remember just because outside
OF Dk. Metcalf you still have a lot of unproven
maybe some intriguing Guys Roman wilson and those guys that might,
(01:04:30):
emerge but you don't have a true number.
Speaker 1 (01:04:32):
Two so the tight ends are gonna be called upon
to do a lot of.
Speaker 3 (01:04:36):
Work and, HONESTLY Dk metcalf's value doesn't change for me
from what he was In seattle To. Pittsburgh that's a
matter of if it Was Gino, Smith Sam darnold Or
Aaron rodgers as his.
Speaker 4 (01:04:45):
Quarterback to, me he is what he.
Speaker 3 (01:04:47):
IS i think The steelers backfield is Interesting Caleb johnson
Over Jalen warren at this, point even THOUGH i think
you're seeing a lot of depth starts With warren number.
One Caleb, johnson the rookie out Of, iowa was likely your.
Speaker 2 (01:04:59):
Best currently being drafted as AN rb, three they're about the.
SAME i think people are just flipping a coin and
once someone spurs their memory and, saying all, right you got, Warrant,
Okay i'll Take. Johnson it's one of those kind of
drafts that you go. Through it's, like well they're gonna
split you got one. Half i'm gonna break your handcuff
and run from. There you woan't care to venture a
(01:05:19):
guess as to war dk metcalf ranks amongst wide.
Speaker 4 (01:05:22):
Receivers, Okay i'm going to say sixteen twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
Three w, alright he is right there With but but
here's here's the, curiosity. Leagues this is, YEAH i went
FULL ppr in terms of HOW i looked at.
Speaker 1 (01:05:38):
It but here we Have.
Speaker 2 (01:05:42):
Marvin harrison, Junior Courtland, Sutton Davante smith are the guys
wrapping around?
Speaker 3 (01:05:47):
Him, okay all, right So Courtland sutton wide receiver, One
Davante smith the wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (01:05:55):
Two that's where you're starting to get the. Blend that's something.
Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
Something THAT i look at WHEN i want the second
best wide receiver on a team that can throw the
ball a, lot or DO i want to just take
the you, know W r One at that, POINT i
would probably go, Gosh i'd probably GO dk Over Courtland.
Speaker 4 (01:06:17):
Sutton.
Speaker 2 (01:06:19):
YEAH i think they're going to run the ball more In. Denver,
yeah making things as easy as they. Can On Bo
nicks and his sophomore. Season another curiosity right there down
Below Devonte smith Was Zay flowers of The Baltimore. Ravens
and then you go back up in the. Rankings Obviously
Jamar chase number, ONE T higgins.
Speaker 3 (01:06:40):
Fourteen Za flowers to me is maybe no different Than Aaron,
rodgers LIKE i think he's even with the addition Of
DeAndre hopkins In. Baltimore the, problem the thing that hurts
Say flowers the most isn't the other wide receivers around
him or like. Thereof it isn't the running. Game it's
the tight. Ends there's no, way there's no way you're
(01:07:02):
going to score ten, touchdowns, no, none.
Speaker 1 (01:07:04):
Unless you're jail breaking a. Bunch, Yes so.
Speaker 4 (01:07:08):
That is just it's out of the. Question and.
Speaker 3 (01:07:12):
By and, large unless you're have, superstats you are gonna
need touchdowns to be able to move up, tiers and
he just doesn't have. It so he, can he can get,
catches he can get, yards it's just he's not going
to score. Touchdowns and you Know lamar is gonna take
some Touchdowns Derrick henry obviously. Sure so aside from just
(01:07:32):
even the tight ends Of Mark andrews And isaiah likely
being targets that it's just not there For Za. Flowers
so that's like he has a. Ceiling for as much
as you think he can progress and be a, weapon
he just he has that ceiling because of everybody around.
Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
Him now let's go back to the fun and excitement
of the quarterback. Position, Obviously cleveland has four guys in
camp latest Report Kenny, pickett Super bowl, Champion Kenny, pickett
uh the, leader he And Joe. Flacco obviously the, Veterans Dylan,
Gabriel Shadoor. SANDERS i think folks are going to realize
real fast that it's not seven on seven drills for the,
(01:08:09):
latter too soon. Enough but all of that to say
that's not fantasy, draftable so we push. On but when
we look at the rest of their roster also. Difficult
Jerry judy had a good, year but how much stock
can you put in that he's.
Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
Only valuable If Joe flacco. PLAYS i think that's. Fair
that's the only way that you can feel. Comfortable And
Jerry judy was great towards the end of the of
the season last. Year jamis throwing the football like there
could be value there In. DJOKU i think could be,
(01:08:45):
interesting whether it Be flaco Or picket like of that spin.
Off but The browns are fantasy relevant If Joe flacco,
starts if he, doesn't whether It's, Shadoor Dylan gabriel Or Kenny.
Speaker 4 (01:08:57):
Picket it just becomes a fantasy.
Speaker 2 (01:08:59):
Wasteland mind the other, QUARTERBACKS i mean It's lamar And,
burrow so they're flying off the. Board, YEAH i mean
there's The burrow currently ranks.
Speaker 3 (01:09:10):
Fifth The, bengals you mentioned T higgins fourteen. EARLIER i
think they are a fantasy. Jackpot but that, defense you
don't know what's happening With Trey. Hendrickson you know they made,
changes But Samar stewart still hasn't. Signed, LIKELY i think
that'll a little be resolved by the start of the,
season but you never know what The Cincinnati, Bengals so,
again if they're not stopping, anyone you know they're gonna
(01:09:31):
have to score. Points it's WHY i actually think That
Chase brown is being completely undervalued because if they're getting
in shootouts like they were last, year and they did
make some changes on the offensive, line made a draft
pick year, prior they used a number one pick On Amaria,
simms so you have like pieces on the offensive. Line
(01:09:54):
they made a change with their offensive line. Coach so
it's Protect Joe burrow and score points because the defense
just didn't stop. Anybody AND i. CAN'T i can't think
that it's going to be anything. DIFFERENT i THINK i
Think cincinnati is just a fantasy jackpot all.
Speaker 2 (01:10:08):
Around, like, yeah, defense he got little rid of Lou
anarumo last after last year's. DEBACLE i just want to
see if they actually want to play football In. September, sure,
Right and look we TALKED.
Speaker 1 (01:10:20):
Tj.
Speaker 2 (01:10:20):
Watts thing will get settled In, pittsburgh like keep seeing
all the trade rumors and whatever. Else they usually do
a lot of work during training camp in terms of
dotting eyes Crossing T's SO i think they eventually get
him in and get going With. Cincinnati all bets are, off,
man you might have one of those long city in
kind of scenarios hanging.
Speaker 4 (01:10:41):
Out do you Like Chase?
Speaker 1 (01:10:42):
BROWN i? DO i.
Speaker 2 (01:10:44):
Do it's just a question of as a draft board,
breaks where where's the sweet spot for.
Speaker 3 (01:10:50):
Him he's in a group right now THAT i feel
is so. Intriguing so if in the half Point Fantasy
pros Where i'm at right now half POINT, ppr he's
Below Kyron williams and above Breesall James cook And Kenneth,
walker AND i am on, board especially with the bottom.
Three cook question about contract status In. Buffalo Kenneth walker's
(01:11:15):
just injury. Prone he watched it Every, yes.
Speaker 1 (01:11:18):
You have a couple of, Games, yes it's, brilliant and
then he's.
Speaker 3 (01:11:20):
Gone, yes SO i think they've Got Chase brown in
the right. Spot but they Have Bucky irving ahead Of Chase,
brown which a little, surprised BUT i ken argue it's
only two. SPOTS i Like Kien williams a. LOT i
think that there's a drop. OFF i think that there
is something. LESS i Expect briestall to have a better
season than he did last, year but now you're wondering
on how Much Justin fields takes away from what he,
(01:11:42):
does and Does Braillen allen have more of a. Role
that's the only Question i'd have About Brees. Hall but
the couple of running backs that are Below Chase BROWN
i have no problems.
Speaker 2 (01:11:51):
With See briestall's the type of guy that in the
end he will rank. Highly but you're gonna lose your
mind week to, week, sure, right because you may have
that seventy three in a burst to pay, dirt but
you also might have an EIGHTY r day And Braylan
allen takes those short yardage, touchdowns her, fields does it
himself or takes to the tight end or whatever happens.
(01:12:11):
There so, yeah he may rank, highly but he also
has that big asterisk because you're gonna ride a roller,
COASTER i think as the season goes.
Speaker 3 (01:12:19):
On, yeah the big load Upboun. Bengels you, know you
Know Jamar chase is going, high.
Speaker 1 (01:12:25):
No question about. It He's Dan bier At Dan Byron.
Speaker 2 (01:12:28):
Fox you find The Eyewatch flex podcast wherever you download your.

Morning universe with our Guy Isaac blow And.
Speaker 1 (01:12:54):
Drop, fortunately he's got sugar in him so he can
make that.
Speaker 8 (01:12:56):
RUN i have a lot of, sugar and it's a
good thing because we've got a lot going on right,
now including, guys some fresh BREAKING nfl. News Dallas Cowboys

kind of been moved AROUND The pga. Tour calendar this

DONE yes i spent a lot of Time In, West,
burlington iowa and hanging out Around the mississippi for steamboat
days back in. The day. That's right, you know a
young boy, could watch, you Know The beach boys when
they started hitting the festival circuit and real things, of that,
You Know jone jet And the blackhearts and all of
that in a big, music festival which we now see
(01:16:29):
all over, The place but that was still in the
early formation of what we'll do. This, annually here it'll
be huge and we'll get bigger bands and bigger bands and.
Grow up so AND then i Used To detassele corn
so Know The quad cities kind, Of well i'll have
that as a chatter in. My book at some point
we Got a Hartman and husky coming up in ten minutes,
from now but Celebrating Also Major. LEAGUE baseball i was
(01:16:51):
joking with you. Off air i'm doing a little bit
of traveling with my daughter soccer stuff, this week and
it's like looking at potential Events and, I'm, like hey

Speaker 4 (01:17:22):
Eddie murray.
Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
Uniform GREAT if i could replicate his early, eighties HAIR
now i would have won in a. Big way But
Major league baseball in a pretty great spot as we
get to the midpoint of this season when we talk
about teams on, the rise we Did The All star
game going back to two Thousand and as we're doing
that and we're bringing up dates and you're putting the
(01:17:44):
years that they were last at at, A venue i
think about all The stadiums i've, gone to but you
start placing yourself With The all stars of. Those times
i've been spending a lot of time thinking about that
two thousand And Five white sox team with the Passing Of.
Bobby jenks but, you know and Obviously The white sox.
THIS year, i mean they could Sweep, the rockies, but
overall it's a better effort in venables getting a night
(01:18:06):
to night effort out, of them sometimes to the anger
of opposing, fan basis but we've got storylines and we've got,
young stars and we've got veterans hitting Milestones like kershaw
with his. Three thousand that, you know baseball is probably
and we always talk, ticket sales and people can get
mad about, television ratings the Fracturing and friday night Games
(01:18:27):
on apple and all of. Those THINGS but i don't
know that it's been this healthy from a player and
interest level in.
Speaker 3 (01:18:34):
A while guy Like cal raley as so many home
runs this year and thirty five that hit his thirty Fifth,
on friday where he surpassed his total from all of.
Last year So cal raley's. A Story The, miami marlins
as crazy as, it is are becoming a story because
of what could happen at the. Trade deadline but they're
(01:18:56):
starting to play. Good baseball the opposite is happening With
The Atlanta. Brave is they're kind of falling apart with
some of, their. Injuries losing as You heard isaac say
To The Baltimore, orioles is they now enter the ninth
inning falling. To nothing they could be sellers at the.
Trade deadline and that's like not even talking about all
the great stuff that. You mentioned toronto's now in. First
Place the yankees have been on. A slide so not
(01:19:18):
only have they fallen back to, the pack they've been
passed in the pack. The race we're playing great baseball at,
one time they've kind of. Fallen Off the astros have
played the best baseball of anybody really for the last
month to the last. Six weeks they're about to go
for the sweep today Against, the dodgers And the dodgers
we know are in a dogfight With the Giants and
padres for what's happening IN The. Nl west so there's
(01:19:39):
a lot of good Happening In Major, league baseball and
you have a wild card In The national league that
is going to go pretty deep and probably should go
for a, little while and a team Like the reds
are in. The mix hopefully they don't, fall Off but
cincinnati could be part of.
Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
The conversation what it'll be fun in the second half
is also to See Whether, cal Rowley Pe crow armstrong
can shout the defending MVPs and knock them off.
Speaker 1 (01:20:02):
Their perch so much to go as we get ready
for the, Second.
Speaker 4 (01:20:05):
Half i'm looking forward.
