Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is Fox Sports Countdown.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
We're setting you up for the sports weekend and covering
all the action from the stadiums to the arenas.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Break.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
This is Fox Sports Countdown, brought to you my bet
MG the Sports be Born in Vegas. The Countdown starts
nine live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Here's Brian no, Rich Hornberger and Jared Smith.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Oh what is going on? Everybody?
Speaker 4 (00:34):
I hope you're a Saturday is off to a pleasant start.
Good morning fellows, Good morning Rich, Good morning Jared.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Everything good over there? Good thumbs up the pony Crawl.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
After all, you guys survived that ordeal the pony Crawl. Yes,
survived the pony Crawl. For those that don't know, who's
the inaugural twenty twenty five pony Crawl? The me and
my girlfriend. So we play this game. It's, uh, what's
it called, Jared? Do you play this thing? It's like Derby.
Speaker 5 (01:07):
Deluxe, Yeah, Sigma something, Derby Derby.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
I think it's Derby.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Deluxe is what it is? Is this big I don't
know how to say it. This this game. So it's
just fake horses run around to fake track. But you
can bet on it and so h we looked up
a list my girlfriend and I and there are, roughly,
according to this list, about twelve casinos in Vegas that
have this game. And so we're like, okay, instead of
(01:36):
a pub crawl right where you go from bar to
Bardi bar, we're gonna do the Pony crawl. We're gonna
hit up all these casinos and play the game at
all these random casinos. So let me tell you. We
got our steps in on Thursday. All right, I know
almost every square inch of the strip by now. So
we were all over the place and we went to
(01:57):
let's see, like seven different casino they didn't have it.
They had this faulty list all right, seventyse casinos on
the list did not have Derby Deluxe.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Oh wow, fake news. Yeah, but did you should put
out the list to help people?
Speaker 6 (02:12):
Did you?
Speaker 7 (02:13):
Did you start like after like two in a row
where they were like, nah, we don't got Pony Deluxe.
Did you start asking pit bosses as soon as you
walk into casinos?
Speaker 4 (02:24):
No, it's funny because uh, you know men in asking
for directions, I don't know, like right, like we have
to be bloodhounds first, and then maybe we'll resort to
asking and that's kind of what I did. Now here's
the thing. I'm not opposed to asking for directions or
for advice or what have you, but someone's got to
(02:44):
be available for that to happen, you know what I mean.
And there you walk into a casino and depending on
the time, they're busy, they got stuff to do. And
I'm like, I'm not gonna bother that. I'm not gonna
bother the blackjack blackjack dealer if if they know if
they have the ponies or not, like the electronic ponies.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
So I walk around the entire.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Casino like, you know, looking like I need a fix,
like it was around here. I'm scratching my neck. You know,
it's it's the whole thing. But we went to gosh,
I don't know, I have the list in front of me,
at least six or seven various casinos we played, and
you know, up down, up down. I ended up down
for the experience. But hey, listen, it was fun. It
(03:27):
was the first inaugural pony crawl. We crossed it off
the list oud of you, Bud, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
Audi, you gambling deserves traditions like this. A lot of
times gambling gets oh you know, it's just these people
pressing buttons with no life in this and I think
there's like a lot of tradition to betting where you
start traditions like this and you have a family, right,
you know, and your family does it one day and
it's it's it's great.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
I love it. I think it's a really fun thing.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
I put out a video and one of my friends
he commented on it, and I thought it was hilarious.
Should get the exact quote. I could, I could try
to find it for you real fast. But he said
something to the effect of, oh, Brian, I'm jealous. I
love this game, absolutely love it. I love it so much.
Every time I'm in Vegas, my wife is like, can
(04:13):
we play anything other than this?
Speaker 6 (04:17):
Wow?
Speaker 4 (04:18):
And he's like, no, this is it. We're just playing
this game the Electronic Ponies. So yeah, some people are
huge fans, which is very funny to me.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
So the Sigma Derby game, that's the one that's at
the d We played that, like the old old school one.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
That's the original one.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
That's fun og game, and people will literally come far
and wide to play that game at that specific spot
because it's the only spot in town that has the original.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Oh wow, no, kid, Yeah, we played that too.
Speaker 7 (04:52):
I was thinking that you were going into these casinos
sports books and you were literally I was like, I
can't believe how many sportsbooks off for OTV, Like I
thought she was all random off track bidding from around
the world, like because at some of these hours, I'm like,
he's still finding racist to bet on the races in
(05:15):
Lithuania around now.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
No, yeah, it's just your own.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
If you've ever seen like the individual like bubble craps,
that's what our goat, Rackenberger calls him. You know, like
the the craps where you have your own little bin
to yourself, it's bubble ponal er concept. Yeah, it's kind
of like bubble ponies or you remember the the old
like ice hockey game is kind of like yeah, yep, yep, yep.
What am I looking for with soccer? What's that called
(05:41):
where you play with foosball?
Speaker 3 (05:44):
It's kind of like a football playing foosball behind my back.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Yeah, but with ice hockey, I'm sure a lot of
people have played the amazing games. It's kind of like
the same idea with the electronic ponies. But what Jared's
talking about, we played the original and that's.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
The OgH that is, people come from far and line
for that game.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
It is so primitive, man, like these you gotta see.
I took a couple of videos, but these horses they
were again like fake ponies, fake track running around.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
You can make real better.
Speaker 5 (06:16):
Really gambling at its purest form because there's no strategy.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
You just you know, it's not like you have numbers
on this team. You know this horse got really.
Speaker 5 (06:23):
Good speed numbers today we wish bet on this one,
or this jockey's got this.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
It's just so random.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
You're just dumping quarters like it's like slot machines, but
you get a little bit of a sport vibe to it.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
It's fun too. The horses.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
You got to see these fake ponies where they're just
like so hurky jerky going around the track, and it
was fun. We had a good time, not bad, but
you know me, I'm a competitive maniac. So at some
point when you're losing race after race after you have
to be It's like baseball, you know, if you're a hitter,
and sometimes you just lose your mind. And remember when
(06:57):
Big Poppy attacked like the bullpen phone, so you know
what I mean, Like you just lose it.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Prime destroying.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
I go that crazy, Yeah, but at some point, man,
it's just l after l after and my only cost
you like one dollar, maybe fifty cents if it's the
old school ponies. But man, the losses accumulate, it's annoying.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Okay, how about this?
Speaker 4 (07:18):
So we got the debut of Cooper Flag in Summer League.
He went against Brownie James's Lakers. We'll have a little
bit more on that in a second. But the debut
for Cooper FLAGSTA line's okay, ten points. The shooting was
not good, five for twenty one from the field, both
for five from three. He had six rebounds, four assists,
(07:40):
played thirty two minutes, and I thought it was fine.
So caylby full transparency. This was during the Pony Crawl,
so I didn't see most of this debut from Cooper Flag.
But one thing that stood out to me that I
did see live was at the very end of the game,
where his Mavericks are only up by two points, he
gets the ball and the airballs it, and I thought
(08:03):
immediately right back to the Final four loss to Texas
Tech where he took that big shot and air balled
it right, and look, I don't want to make more
out of this than there is to make. It's a
summer league game, but Rich, you can talk about this
for sure. As a professional athlete, former professional athlete, you'll
see this all the time. In basketball you'll see or football.
(08:24):
You'll see some guys like Robert ORRII comes to mind,
where he hits a big shot and all of a sudden,
it's like his chest, you know, like poofs out a
little bit more. He's like, this is what I do,
and he just believes he's going to get it done
in those moments, and you'll see other players shrinking those moments.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Tony Romo comes to mind.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
I thought Tony Romo is a pretty good NFL quarterback,
but when big moments came about or big games, he
would wet himself routinely. We've seen that with Lamar Jackson
for a handful of times. As brilliant as he's been
in the regular season, he's wet himself in those big moments.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
And that's just a hurdle.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
I think that Cooper Flag's gonna have to jump over
and it could take one big shot in one game,
take a summer league game where he comes through in
a big moment. But I think he's got to get
over that hurdle because he doesn't look like his normal
self in those moments.
Speaker 7 (09:14):
I don't think, yeah, these are early struggles. Anybody who's
willing to say with any certainty what Cooper Flag's gonna
be as a professional after watching a summer league debut,
it either doesn't watch basketball, is lying or they're trying
to sell you something. I guess because I couldn't imagine
(09:37):
the reason why you would try. Nobody is going to make,
you know, bold proclamations, or I should say, nobody should
make bold proclamations about what kind of a pro Cooper
Flag is going to be off of a infinitesimal sample size.
But what I can say is he did do a
(09:57):
couple of things that were impressive.
Speaker 6 (09:59):
You know, it was a really.
Speaker 7 (10:01):
Wonky shooting day night for Cooper, and he said that himself.
As a matter of fact, he called it the worst
game he's ever played. And now he's a young guy.
He's played basketball obviously throughout his life, but he's played
one year of college and here he is.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
He's a teenager.
Speaker 7 (10:21):
So I mean, it wouldn't be too hard to have
your worst day at the office when you have had
so many, so few experiences that it doesn't shock me
that he feels that way, you know.
Speaker 6 (10:33):
Being five of twenty one from the floor.
Speaker 7 (10:36):
Here's the thing, though, his coach said something that was
absolutely true because I think what is it might have
been inside the final minute, he was driving the ball
down court, drew a couple of defenders in transition, kicked
the ball out. I forget who is open for the three,
but it was like it was perfectly done. It's it's
what's advertised. When you look at Cooper f flags pedigree
(11:02):
and you see what he did in college. That's the
Cooper flag that the MAVs drafted. So he found the
open man, they hit a three, they win the game.
Even though he was having a bad night, he knew
that he could rely on his teammate for an open
three to get the job done. He didn't force it
to the rim, and I thought that showed maturity. And
(11:23):
his assistant, or I should say the MAVs summer league
coach had a quote too where he was like, look,
he makes winning plays and essentially that's what we saw
in college, and so that's what we're going to see
as a pro and he's right about that too so far.
But again, any bold proclamations you're going to make about
a player based on one game, ah, it's way too early.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
Totally agree, And the exhibition nature of this makes it
even more so, Like who can if we go back,
for example, let's say Cooper Flag turns out to be
the next coming of like Wendy Right, like this is
an unbelievable star and we all think Wenby's going to
be great next year, and you know, favorite to win
(12:09):
defensive player, and let's say Cooper Flag ascends to that level.
Is anyone going to care he went five for twenty
one in his summer.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
League debut like that will never be.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
It might be like a footnote in the history book
of Cooper Flag. And I would argue that what Rich
is saying the defensive play and the winning assist on
a night where he's not shooting it well and he
could be down on himself, embarrassed. All these people are
here in Vegas. I had some friends. The tickets were
really expensive.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
You know, I'm letting everyone down.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
I'm sad, I'm upset, and then I don't make that
key assist where I'm not even the one that gets
the shot. I'm just the guy that sets up the shot.
And to me, if that doesn't happen because he's, you know,
a little bit down on himself, I think that makes
it even worse.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
So the fact that he was able to overcome.
Speaker 5 (13:07):
A bad shooting night, which is more of an individual
stat line, and contribute to the team victory in an
unselfish way, frankly tells me more about him than if
he just had a great shooting night and the Mavericks
one by thirty.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
I'm just like, yeah, all right, well.
Speaker 5 (13:23):
Cooper Flag's really good player's gonna have a goo shooting
night and the MAVs are gonna win, Like that's what
should happen. But the fact that it was this particular
storyline actually gives me more hope and tells me more
about his character than if it was just a really
good night for Cooper Flag. So I think this is
not only is it a summer League game that is
completely meaningless in the grand scheme of his career, but
(13:46):
I do think it actually reveals more positively about his
future than it does anything else.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
I mean, hey, that's fine. First off, let me correct myself.
Was not Texas Tech what am I thinking. It's too
early in the morning. The final four loss, for he
was against Houston, right Houston Duke had it who clearly
had it, and then they let it slip away and
Cooper Flagg had a chance to hit a game winning
shot and air balled it. And listen, man, like you
can write this off as a summer league what does
(14:15):
it matter? It's funny because we'll pick and choose what matters.
You know, you could like dismiss a final shot that
he airballed in his summer league debut and be like
a big deal, big day. But then we'll point out
something positively that now this, now this tell me right, Like,
we pick and choose what matters, what does and that's
how it goes. But I'll tell you what is real.
It's a summer league game. Okay, big deal. But you
(14:38):
can't tell me that the final four airball or misshot
didn't have something to do with what he did in
the final seconds of his summer league debut against the Lakers.
You can't tell me it had nothing to do with it.
I just don't believe it. Cooper Flag is not a
player where he's a high enough caliber player where he's
not gonna be just airballing fifteen to seventeen four jumpers
(15:00):
where he gets a clean look. He's far too talented,
far too good to do that. So it tells me
that sometimes he shrinks in those moments, like I'm not
going too far there. You can never trust this guy.
This guy's always he's gonna be a bum. He's gonna
be a you know, he's gonna, you know, be a
bust that. I'm not saying anything like that. It's his debut,
but those moments arrive, and some players just they have
(15:25):
a knack for coming through time and time and time again.
And there are other players who shrink in those moments.
I'm not telling you Cooper Flagg is a guy who
will routinely shrink in those moments. I'm just telling you
he has in back to back games, one in the
Final four, one in the Summer League debut, and that's
a hurdle he's gonna have to jump over, plain and simple.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
That's all.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
That's all.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
Now, you guys take it wherever you want, but that
is absolutely the truth.
Speaker 6 (15:52):
I just, I mean, this is my own personal assessment.
Speaker 7 (15:55):
Think that it's a low hurdle until it isn't like,
because you're making a connection based on two data points
where I'm sure emotions were running high. You know, obviously
in a Final four appearance, emotions are running high when
you have an opportunity to save the day. In a
moment like a Final four appearance, you're going to be
(16:19):
emotionally charged. Obviously, in a summer league game where it's
your professional debut, something that you dreamed about playing driveway
basketball with your friends since you were a kid growing
up in Maine, I'm sure the emotions were running high.
So I guess it's possible based off of two data
(16:41):
points you could jump to conclusions or make assumptions. I'm
just not comfortable doing it, and so I would need
a couple more data points for me to say, oh yeah,
like Cooper Flag obviously has a problem when the game's
on the line.
Speaker 6 (16:58):
And I don't even know if that's what you're saying.
Speaker 7 (17:00):
I I Brian, you know, I mean, I don't want
to put words in your mouth, but I know this.
I'm uncomfortable judging virtually anything you know with with so
little information. You know, I'm I'm the type of person
that you know before I purchase a car, you.
Speaker 6 (17:20):
Usually I like to test drive a couple, you know,
mull it over for a little bit.
Speaker 7 (17:24):
You know, I like mattress shops. You know, some people
order them online. I still like to go in the
store and lay down on a few of them.
Speaker 6 (17:33):
You know. It's it's a part of my personality.
Speaker 7 (17:36):
Maybe you are you trust your gut more and what
your gut's telling you is Cooper flags is going to
be this type of player. But I definitely think I
need more information before I can start connecting dots that
might not even be there.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Yeah, I try.
Speaker 5 (17:53):
I agreed Brian that like that was not a good
look for him in the final four. It was definitely
not the way that he probably would have wanted his
college career to end. But I don't want to make
any sweeping claims about his NBA clutch career based off
of that one shot.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
It was one shot.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
He's taken a million of them in his career, and
he's going to take a million more, and he's going
to take a lot more more. Frankly, as important as
the Final four is, I will make this prediction on
you know six nineteen am. On July twelve, twenty twenty five,
Cooper shot will take more important shots, Cooper, excuse me,
Cooper Flag will take more important shots in his career
(18:34):
than the one he missed in the Final four. That
was the first of many, and that was to this point,
the most important shot of his career.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
And it was a fricking whole. What was it? There's
a there's a theme.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
Or trend going around TikTok, holyf and airball like this
stupid trown together in.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
The TikTok trends. But I'm sure Rich I think you're
on tiktoks. He might have seen this.
Speaker 5 (18:55):
One holyf and airball like, Yes, it was that. But
I am very confident, In fact, I would say I
am one hundred percent confident that he will take a
more important shot at some point throughout his NBA career
to win a game, to win a big moment in
a big spot, and that will be how we judge him.
(19:17):
As much as we want to judge him for college,
I think it's fair to say as good as Carmelo
Anthony was in his college career, I think he has
judged more for his NBA career. So I don't want
to judge anyone based off of one shot. When they're
eighteen years old. I want to give him a chance
to flour and bloom and turn into a great star.
And let's see how he handles the pressure of the
(19:38):
highest league in professional basketball.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Maybe I'm doing a terrible job because you guys are
clearly not smelling what I'm cooking. Like I'm cooking some
I'm cooking I don't know, some steak and you're like, man,
chicken smells gret over here. No, Wow, what's going on here?
On the I'm like, no, guys, I'm sticking. I'm cooking
steak here.
Speaker 6 (19:59):
Well, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
All I'm saying is this.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
This is less of looking at it from I don't know,
a fan standpoint, a media standpoint, and like looking bird's
eye view what his career is gonna unfold and play
out to be, Like I think it's gonna be a
fantastic player. What I'm talking about is more so the athlete,
the athlete's mentality. Okay, of getting over hurdles, you have
(20:21):
to do this all the time in your career.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
Think of a.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
Kicker who misses a huge kick game on the line
and he just boots it and it's wide left and
they lose the national championship game, or they lose the
semi final game, like picture when Notre Dame took down
Penn State, you know, in the semi finals of the
college football playoffs.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
I let's try not That kick went straight down the middle,
like right.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
Through the Imagine if he missed it, Jeter misses it
to the left, and now all of a sudden his
next kick. You're telling me that's not a hurdle you
gotta get over. Of course it is. Okay, So it's
your the athletes mentality of having to get over some
of these hurdles. And if you mess up on a
huge stage in the Final four and there's a shot
(21:08):
from close range that barely hits the front of the iron, well,
guess what, that's a hurdle that you're gonna have to
jump over. I think he's going to My money is
on him doing that repeatedly throughout his NBA career. So
I'm not sitting here saying, oh, this got I thought
I made that clear.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
Maybe you didn't catch it. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
But all I'm saying is when when he screwed up
in that Final four game and didn't come through, well
that's something he's gonna have to come through in a
similar moment to really feel like I got this. He
might believe it, but to have the confidence of I
did it, that's something he's gonna have.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
I agree with that, but we can't be the Summer League,
isn't that well?
Speaker 4 (21:47):
Hey, coming through in any moment like that helps.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
Even if he.
Speaker 5 (21:52):
Came through he had the game winning assist in the
game winning defensive play.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
I saw an airball in the final seconds.
Speaker 5 (21:58):
I think you've missed the big picture that you're too
busy with the Hey.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
Hey, you whatever?
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Due again?
Speaker 8 (22:04):
What the game?
Speaker 3 (22:12):
Great? Great?
Speaker 4 (22:15):
How about don't air ball shots with they won the
game and I don't care. You're gonna have to get
over those hurdles.
Speaker 7 (22:23):
Sorry, all right, well again, I think that's where you're confused,
is I I understand you're not making a bold proclamation
about Cooper flag, but making even a connection based off
of a Summer League game and the final do you
not think rich?
Speaker 4 (22:39):
Okay, a kicker misses a game winning kick, huge kick
to get to the National championship game. Now he misses
the next kick in like I don't know, preseason, their
their their blue gold game or whatever, Right, like their
offseason game. You're telling me, you don't think, man, I
wonder if that kick had something to do. You don't
(23:01):
think that at all, no connection whatsoever.
Speaker 7 (23:03):
Just if he pures a short field goal to win
that game, then I'm thinking like, oh, he's back.
Speaker 5 (23:10):
Okay, because yeah, it's hard for a kicker, because a
kicker can't give a run.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
We got a run, all right. We got rich oren
Berger paint in.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
The assad all America. We got Jared Smith pain in
the assig.
Speaker 4 (23:23):

All Right, So, the latest installment of the Netflix series
Quarterback is out. Season two, So We've got Kirk Cousins
featured Jared Goff and Joe Burrow and in the first episode,
Kirk Cousins talked about the Falcons selecting Michael Pennox Junior
(25:42):
with a number eight overall pick in last year's draft,
and he said he basically felt misled. I'm paraphrasing here,
and he's basically like, hey, you guys could include me
in on this, right If I knew about this information
kinda would have been helpful with me making my decision.
And at one point he was sitting there, I think
(26:03):
it was at his house, and they've got this big
like you know, like they've got swings and all this
stuff for little kids to play on. He and his
wife are just kind of chilling there and he's talking
to the camera and he was like he was explaining this.
He's like, look, the reason that we came to Atlanta.
We didn't want to leave Minnesota, but Minnesota was like,
this is kind of going to be a yearly thing, right,
(26:26):
this is not We're not hitching our wagon to you
long term basically, and so he was like, Atlanta was that,
like it's going to be a long term that's why
we and I'm like, oh no, Like he at that time,
he didn't realize what was happening, right, and so looking back,
he said, certainly, if I had the information around free agency,
(26:47):
it certainly would have affected my decision. I had no
reason to leave Minnesota with how much we loved it there.
If both teams are going to be drafting a quarterback
high Okay, So he had a great idea that Minna
was going to be using a top pick.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
On a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (27:03):
He did not know that Atlanta was going to do
the same thing. That's exactly what they ended up doing,
and so looking back, he said, he felt misled, which
I can totally understand you guys, I don't know, do
you guys feel the same way or at least see
kirk side of it, where you're like you can.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
Say, hey, man, it's the business.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
The way it goes you know, cold callous, Hey deal
with it, or you could look at it and say
that makes sense.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
I can see why you felt misled.
Speaker 7 (27:32):
And I can guarantee you because I know how these
conversations go. That is something that either Kirk himself or
his agent explained in plain English to the Atlanta Falcons.
They said to the team, Hey, look, yeah, Kirk's real
upset that they're drafting a quarterback. Obviously, you know he
(27:54):
loves Minnesota. He's a loyal guy. So if he does
come to Atlanta, that's what you're getting. You're getting a
guy who's never gonna want to leave. He's gonna want
to pour his heart and his soul into that city.
But the situation is the situation. They want to get
younger at the position. They're looking at their next steps
(28:14):
to get younger at that position. And they've told us
as much, you know, and we give them credit because
they're letting us know what direction the franchise is heading in.
But just in terms of what we're looking for, Kirk
Scott good years left in that arm and we're looking
for a stable opportunity. That was the primary reason why
(28:36):
he was leaving Minnesota.
Speaker 6 (28:38):
So I one hundred percent.
Speaker 7 (28:41):
Believe Kirk when he says he felt misled because guess
what he was, And you can't convince me otherwise. So
I do feel bad for Kirk, But I mean, if
you feel bad for every player who has taken advantage
of by a franchise in the NFL, you would spend
the rest of your day pitying a bunch of you know,
(29:06):
millionaire athletes, because that's the reality these teams.
Speaker 6 (29:11):
They look at this as a business.
Speaker 7 (29:13):
The assets literally are the players, and so you're dealing
with people's lives and you're uprooting families, but they don't
care as long as they're getting w's, and so that's
what happened here, unfortunately for Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 5 (29:27):
Yeah, I think there's a certain element to this where
we have to remove the human element, which is hard
to do. It really is, And I get why people
not only about this situation.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
We talk more about this with quarterbacks, but I.
Speaker 5 (29:43):
Recall this really feisty offensive lineman who you know, came
up through the ranks of the New England Patriots and
then you know, had some injury problems and you know,
we then went to Arizona and had some more injury problems.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
And then had to go to San Diego.
Speaker 5 (29:56):
So you know, and this is just a fantastic human
being that I get to work with every day. But
if at the end of the day, Rich right, like
I think you understood why a lot of those moves
went down.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
It's a business.
Speaker 5 (30:07):
Oh yeah, and I think it's it's hard it happens
to I can't is there a player that has existed
in the sport of the NFL that.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Has not had this happen to them at some point?
Speaker 5 (30:20):
Even the goat Tom Brady was passed over how many
times in the draft and had like the ultimate chip
on his shoulder because nobody wanted him. Like I think actually,
in a weird way, these types of moments which I'm
sure every single professional athlete at some point in their
(30:41):
career has been pushed aside, marginalized, passed over, had decisions
made about their career without their consent because it is
a business and at the end of the day, they
are the asset and they are not the decision maker.
So it's a good story. I haven't watched the Netflix
(31:03):
documentaries yet. I'm excited to. I have not had time yet.
They just came out this week, I've seen some clips.
They all look fantastic. The clip of Burrow, GoF and
Cousins going through what a quarterback does in the seconds
leading up to the snap, I thought was awesome and
amazingly produced. I watched that clip last night, And this
(31:25):
type of entertainment is great for fans because we get
to see a glimpse of what the players think, which
helps me handicap, which allows me to analyze better. So
I think this is all great and it's great for
fodder and conversation, But for us to shed a tear
every time this happens to an NFL player, we would
(31:47):
have no tiers left to shed, Like It's just this
is the nature of the business. And I think other
than for entertainment reasons, we just have to understand it
and just appreciate what the NFL is, which is I
think the hardest frankly, I think the hardest sport to
stay healthy in long term and the biggest attrition sport
(32:08):
we have, Like it's the closest thing we have in
this current society to like gladiator nature, like Game of
Thrones type brutality, and I really like in a team element,
like I know you have seen boxing that has it too,
but again like a team element, like my my people
against your people, We're gonna final war.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
Like and this is the this is the type of
stuff that happens.
Speaker 4 (32:32):
I mean, listen, I'm with you guys in terms of
there are so many NFL We'll stick with the NFL.
There's so many NFL players among many other professional athletes
who get done dirty. I mean, it happens time and
time and time again. But I think you have to
look at the dynamic of this one right where it's
(32:52):
it's just a lot different than a lot of other
examples where if you think of Kirk Cousins, Okay, it's
like he's he's built up into man Atlanta, fresh start,
long term commitment. You know, they signed him to a
one hundred million dollars guaranteed contract. Right, He's got guaranteed cash.
(33:13):
It's like, okay, I'm the guy.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
And then with.
Speaker 4 (33:16):
The first pick eighth overall, they picked Michael Pennix Junior
as a quarterback. It's like what that would be like,
I don't know, like spitting game to this beautiful girl
on the street and be like, listen, you give me
a shot. I'm gonna make all your dreams come true.
I'm gonna be faithful, I'm gonna take you everywhere, and
then he takes you to in and out Burger and
(33:38):
then cheats on you later that night. You know, like that,
that's what happened with Kirk Cousins to Atlanta is basically
so I get it. Many players have been done wrong
and maybe they they were they were sold on this
opportunity and thought it was gonna be much more than
it actually was. But man, when you you uproot your
entire family because you're sold on this is a long
(34:00):
term fresh start, and it was. It even turned into
that after one draft pick in the off season. It's
like wow, And I'm not shedding tears for Kirk. It's
a business and this is sometimes the way it goes.
But what he thought it was and what it turned
out to be does differ from a lot of players
(34:23):
who were done dirty in other ways.
Speaker 7 (34:25):
Yeah, I think that you're speaking about reality. Kirk Cousins
was misled and you know, and to go back to
your comparison, not only like if the Falcons have anything
to say about it, where they're like they try to
put the toothpaste back in the tube, it's like that
guy who cheated then trying to gaslight the situation and
be like, oh, I didn't even know that we were dating.
(34:49):
Wait what Like, this isn't my fault, it was your fault.
You didn't communicate to me that we were an item.
Are you kidding me? Like, if the if the Atlanta
Falcons try to spin this at all, it's going to
be that it's just gonna be gaslighting. You don't have
to believe it. Players get misled all the time. This
is the NFL. That's what happens.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (35:11):
And also it's like if they took him in and
out burger and then the guy dropped a hundred mil
on the table and said, hey, I'm out, I think
the girl would still be Okay.
Speaker 6 (35:22):
Yeah, that's a good point.
Speaker 4 (35:24):

next the parlay platter, which have one selection for you.
We pull it together for a greater payout, and do
I go WNBA Summer League basis.
Speaker 5 (35:55):
Summer League because I'll be honest, huh, that's where that's
where the money can be made.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
If you know what you're doing.
Speaker 4 (36:02):
I've got a dose.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
You have a story where let's go. It could go
the other way.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
I'm with you, but it could go the other way
in painful fashion. Maybe that's why I'm so surly the
start off this, I don't know, but we'll compare notes
with's parlay platter. Coming up next, it is Fox Sports
Radios Countdown presented by bet MGM. It is Fox Sports
Radios Countdown presented by Bett MGM. No time to waste,
let's dive into this.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Check this out our late letter.
Speaker 4 (36:32):
All right, we'd have one selection for you, we pull
it together for a greater payout shared we start with you.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
What do you like?
Speaker 1 (36:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (36:39):
I was called back and forth on this. It's not
a great betting card today.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
Baseball wise, I think there's a couple of games that
are intriguing, and I'll give you one that was at
least this is the most interesting stat of the day.
So the Yankees went on a streak about a month
ago of sixteen consecutive thunders, which is.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Just crazy to me.
Speaker 5 (37:02):
Well, since then, they've had twelve straight overs, including a
game last night that went over the total where the
Cubs didn't score, it was all Yankees runs that got
the game.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
Over the total.
Speaker 5 (37:15):
So weird situation today where despite the fact that the
Yankees have had twelve consecutive.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
Overs, it's a very low total between the Cubs and the.
Speaker 5 (37:23):
Yankees and the Bronx eight And I think the reason
why it's Matthew Voyd and it's Max Freed.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
Obviously two good pictures. But we're gonna sell a half
a run here. We're gonna sell because.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
We know we want to get these odds nice and
juicy for my two counterparts, so we can make this
parlay nice and fun for you guys. I'll go over
eight and a half, right, the totals eight minus one fifteen,
we'll go over eight and a half. We'll sell a
half a run even odds between the Yankees and the
Cubs today in the Bronx.
Speaker 7 (37:51):
All right, Cooper Flagg had a pretty wonky debut, a
shaky ten points five and twenty one from Befloor. We
were talking about that to open the show.
Speaker 6 (38:01):
He's facing the Spurs.
Speaker 7 (38:03):
This is a guy who averaged over nineteen points per
game in college. And remember, summer League, you're not playing
against NBA pros who have been veterans of the league
and superstars for years and years and years.
Speaker 6 (38:16):
You're playing against your peers.
Speaker 7 (38:18):
These are guys who are cutting their teeth in this
league or have bounced around the G league. So I
think he's gonna settle in look a lot more comfortable
like the college superstar he was. Give me the over
on the eighteen and a half points.
Speaker 4 (38:32):
All right, I'm gonna go to the WNBA over here,
and I'm gonna do something that kind of goes against
by betting DNA right now, which is laying points in
any WNBA day. Man, the dogs have been barking, not
just covering this bread, but winning outright many many games.
(38:54):
A couple of games ago, a couple of days ago,
we had three outright underdogs. They are underdogs of seven
and a half to like eighteen and a half win outright.
So it's been crazy in the WNBA. But the Links,
I think that they're gonna have their way with the
Chicago Sky. The Chicago Sky are a bad team, there
(39:15):
are no two ways about it. They're just bad. They're
banged up and bad anyway, and they don't play defense.
So I think the Links are gonna score quite a bit.
I'm gonna look to lay a big number. I'm gonna
lay eleven and a half points on the road. Now
it's ticked up to twelve and a half at MGM.
You could just look at the little spreads tab. Yeah,
and you can go in many different directions. It's actually
(39:38):
really nice if you're thinking about building a parlay. Yep,
I went to minus eleven and a half. It's at
minus one twenty five juice, right, so you get like
a twenty five cent tax. You can even go minus
ten and a half and it's minus one forty five.
It's a forty five cent tax. If you're thinking of
a leg for a parlay, it's not a terrible option
(39:59):
right by yourself. A couple of points that could be
very handy, But I'm comfortable with minus eleven and a half.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
That's the leg I will go with here for the parlay.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (40:08):
I like it.
Speaker 5 (40:09):
The numbers that I get from my WNBA people make
this game.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
Thirteen and a half today, so I think eleven and
a half is a very fair bet.
Speaker 5 (40:17):
Rich, the props on bet MGM and Cooper Flag is
at twenty plus, so if it lands nineteen, I apologize
in advance. But also what it does is it makes
the odds significantly greater. Right, Like, Cooper Flag to score
twenty plus is two to one.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
At bet MGM.
Speaker 5 (40:33):
Like that's just a good bet on its own. If
you agree with Rich's assessment that Cooper Flag is going
to bounce back from a bad shooting game and he's
gonna drop twenty tonight. I mean two to one is
a pretty nice nugget there. So if we pull all
these three together, guys, this is plus nine eighty. This
is a nice little parlay here. This is almost ten
(40:54):
to one. This is a nice, little, juicy little parlay.
This would actually be one of the bigger ones that
we've had since football season when we were doing the
you know, the underdog ones.
Speaker 4 (41:05):
I like this, what's your leg Jared over eight and
a half?
Speaker 3 (41:09):
Cubs? Cubs? I know, no, but what the payout just
for yours?
Speaker 6 (41:13):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (41:13):
Even os evil? Okay? Wow, got juicy? Yeah, if the
two to one really got it all right?
Speaker 6 (41:19):
Coming up?
Speaker 4 (41:19):
Would you take a major L for a long term? W?
Speaker 6 (41:25):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (41:26):
What is going on?
Speaker 4 (41:27):
I hope your Saturday is going swimmingly so far. We
will get to would you take a major L for.
Speaker 6 (41:36):
A long term?
Speaker 3 (41:37):
W That is on the way.
Speaker 4 (41:38):
Hey, be sure to check out the Fox Sports Radio
YouTube channel. Just search Fox Sports Radio on YouTube and
you'll see a whole bunch of video highlights from our shows.
Be sure to subscribe to you always have instant access
to our Fox Sports Radio videos on YouTube. Okay, So,
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, he's pushing for a salary cap. Okay,
(42:00):
on's a salary cap. By the way, Colorado head football
coach Dean Sanders he's in favor of a salary cap
in college football as well. So we got, you know,
a couple of powerful dudes in favor of salary caps.
We'll get to Colorado in a second, but I want
to focus in on MLB for a second. Okay, So
(42:23):
there's a buddy of mine. This guy's name is Nate Brown. So,
Nate hosts a show for a Fox Sports radio affiliate
in South Dakota, and so from time to time show.
Speaker 3 (42:32):
By the way, he's fan plastic.
Speaker 4 (42:35):
Yeah, he's great, But Nate will will have me on
from time to time. And he threw a question my
way that I thought was fantastic. Now I could steal
it and pass it off as my own, but I
can't do Nate Brown like that.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
That's that's not right. But we love you South Dakota.
That's right, Nate said to me.
Speaker 4 (42:53):
He was like, if you're Rob Manfred, there's talk of
a lockout for maybe an entire season. If you had
to choose one of two things, you have baseball the
way it is right now, no salary cap. You know,
the spenders spend that, the non spenders don't spend, right,
that's the way it goes. You have the haves and
(43:16):
the have nots. Would you just keep it the way
it is? That's choice number one? Or choice number two
is you sacrifice an entire season that is a major,
major l but you're able to implement a salary cap.
Speaker 3 (43:32):
Would you do that?
Speaker 4 (43:33):
And I said, man, I hate hate any lockout. It's horrible.
It's lose, lose almost all across the board. Because you're
planning the seed for all of your fans. The diehard fans,
the casual fans especially. Hey, life goes on without major
League Baseball. You know, life doesn't just stop. So you
(43:54):
get into routines. You have things that you do that
you might continue doing when baseball comes around again. So
you lose a ton when you have a lockout. But
if it's to implement a salary cap, I think MLB
desperately desperately needs it, and I point to the NFL.
The NFL's not so secret sauce is parody. You can
(44:16):
sell hope legitimately to almost every fan where maybe they're
not gonna win a Super Bowl, but they could be
significantly better than they were the previous season. You can
sell that hope because it happens time and time again.
You can't do that in baseball. And you have one
hundred and sixty two games. If you're hoping for a
championship and you're an A's fan, it's like why are
(44:37):
you are you watching games?
Speaker 3 (44:39):
You know?
Speaker 4 (44:40):
So, if you're able to implement a salary cap, I
would do it. Now that's a little radical. What would
you guys do? Would you sacrifice the season? If that's
what it took in MLB to have a salary cap
going forward.
Speaker 7 (44:55):
You know what, I've flip flopped on my position on
this topic because I used to say things like, look,
I'm never in favor of a salary cap because that
limits the amount of money that a player can make
in this dynamic, and the ownership always has more power
than the player. So let's just see what fair market
(45:16):
value dictates for the player. However, I see it from
the fans standpoint that you need parody and blah blah
blah blah blah. And I'm not saying that your point
isn't heard because Brian I agreed with that point for
a while until I actually started doing the research.
Speaker 6 (45:31):
That is most.
Speaker 7 (45:32):
Important to me is their variety in the playoffs. Well,
in Major League Baseball there is is there variety in
terms of who's winning the World Series.
Speaker 6 (45:43):
There is.
Speaker 7 (45:45):
Baseball's problems aren't parody. Baseball's problems are a dilution of urgency.
They play one hundred and sixty two games. That's too many.
The regular season sucks because it's a snooze, because it
takes forever, because the game don't matter, the reason why
the NFL works isn't because of parody. Because BA has parody,
(46:05):
and the NBA has parody as well. The NFL works
is because there's an eighteen game schedule instead of, excuse me,
a seventeen game schedule soon to be eighteen, which by
the way, could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
Speaker 6 (46:19):
We'll see.
Speaker 7 (46:20):
But there is a seventeen game schedule as opposed to
an eighty two games schedule in the NBA and one
hundred and sixty two games in baseball. That's too many
because you see variety at the top of these leagues.
In the postseason every year, it's a new cluster of teams.
You don't see the team spending the most money always
(46:42):
winning the championship. Case in point, you have OKC winning
one of the smaller markets in the NBA. I look
at a salary cap and I say to myself with
Major League Baseball, I say, why would I want to
put the golden handcuffs on these athletes? And that doesn't
solve baseball's most glaring issue. Bob Manfred is running a
(47:05):
smoke screen. He's trying to save the owners money, he's
trying to make more money for the league, and he's
not addressing the issue, which is Baseball plays way too
many games, and they've completely.
Speaker 6 (47:16):
Diluted their product.
Speaker 7 (47:18):
Baseball was at its best during the pandemic when they
played a sprint of a season. It was the most
exciting season of my life, hands down, bar none, because
finally it felt urgent.
Speaker 6 (47:30):
Baseball's problem is a lack of urgency.
Speaker 5 (47:34):
Yeah, this is a tough argument. I think to Rich's point,
Manfred works for the owners. The owners are probably sick
of spending money, or at least the high grossing teams
that spend the most money. You are probably like, Man,
I wish we could really cap this thing, Rob. It'd
be great if we can kind of figure out some
kind of system to work at. But I think to
(47:56):
jump it and say this sal inconsistency is the reason
why we don't have parody is false.
Speaker 3 (48:07):
There's a salary gap in the NBA.
Speaker 5 (48:10):
In the last I think it's how many years, four years, right?
Four different champions in the NBA, seven different four different
NBA champions, seven different league champions. Twenty five out of
the thirty teams made a bigger postseason Major League Baseball,
four different champions, seven different league champions, twenty three out
(48:32):
of thirty teams made a smaller postseason. I mean, one
has a salary cap, same amount of teams, same amount
of champions. A couple of extra teams made the playoffs
in a bigger postseason. And I know it's a small
sample four years, but to say that there's not parody
again in baseball in the last four years, twenty three
(48:53):
out of the thirty teams.
Speaker 3 (48:54):
Made the playoffs. In the NBA, where there's.
Speaker 5 (48:56):
A salary cap, twenty five out of the thirty teams
made the playoffs. That same for your stretch. We have
teams like the Brewers, We have teams like the Rays.
We have teams like the Orioles that have won significant games.
Low market, you know, small market, small, small payroll teams.
I think it's more about following the money in this situation,
(49:18):
which is Manford works for the owners, and the owners
probably are sick of paying these absurd contracts. I think
that is the source of this Manford co Halds been
it however he wants. He is a politician in the
sense of the term. I think every commissioner is a politician.
I don't think it is fair to connect the dots
and say the reason why baseball doesn't.
Speaker 3 (49:40):
Have parody is because there is no salary cap.
Speaker 5 (49:43):
Just tell us the truth, Rob, you want a salary
cap in baseball because the owners are up here, took
us about it, and it's gonna make your life easier.
So no, I wouldn't Rob. I wouldn't cut off my
nose despite my face. I would not take the one
year hit for a salary cap because I think people
care and I think you will become more relevant if
(50:06):
you just take the year off.
Speaker 3 (50:07):
We live in an instant gratification society.
Speaker 5 (50:10):
And maybe when they come back, it'll be exciting again
and they'll get some buzz back.
Speaker 3 (50:15):
But they'll take a hit. I don't know how big
of a hit.
Speaker 5 (50:18):
I don't think anyone could accurately tell you how big
of a hit they'll take if they just say, screw you, guys,
lock out.
Speaker 3 (50:23):
But they will take a hit.
Speaker 4 (50:26):
Yeah, it'd be a huge hit. I don't want to
undersell that because that's a monstrous hit. But look, man,
parody is how you look at it. I mean, you
could look at it one way and lay it out
like you did Jared, and hey, we've got different champions
in this short sample size. And that's there's an argument
there no doubt I would look at it where it's like, Okay,
(50:47):
even though we have some different champions we have the
have nots clearly, you know what I mean. Like if
you look at the NFL, for instance, look at the
Washington Commanders. So two years ago they were a four
win team, they were four and thirteen, and last season
they made it to the NFC Championship Game after winning
twelve games. They went from four wins to twelve wins
(51:10):
to a couple of playoff wins and an NFC title
game birth, Like.
Speaker 3 (51:14):
What's the baseball example of that.
Speaker 4 (51:17):
You're not gonna find that with no salary cap, like
the have notts consistently stay havenots, you know, and a
lot of that is their fault. But when you're going
up against the halves, that has a lot to do
with it as well. So you could look at parody
and just look at the bottom dwellers, you know, look
at the bottom feeders where man they Colorado Rocky's been
(51:38):
bottom feeders for quite a while, the Pirates been bottom
feeders for quite a while, so on and so forth.
So that's the other part of it. The league, the
NFL pushes all these teams toward the middle. Baseball does
not do that. If you're on the high end, you're
probably gonna stay in that area. If you're in the
low end, call the sack. Guess what, that's where you live,
(51:59):
right And I think a salary cap would do a
lot to change that. And look, they're not going to
trim games. We all know that. But even if they
did name the number, they trim it back to one forty,
they trim it to one twenty or whatever.
Speaker 3 (52:13):
They're not.
Speaker 4 (52:13):
Let's just, you know, suspend reality for a second. Do
you have urgency then no, not. If you don't have
a salary cap and you have the halves and the
have knots, there's still the same lack of urgency no
matter how many games you trim. So I think that
is the biggest problem is put it this way. No
one wants to see players not earn their full potential.
(52:35):
But you could argue this in the NFL. Would you
rather keep it the way it is with a salary
cap or go back to the way it was with
no salary cap whatsoever? And you have baseball, you have
the halves, you have the have nots, you have teams
with no chance whatsoever to do anything of legitimate circumstance, right,
that's not fun. That's that interesting to me. I'd much
(52:56):
rather have the NFL the way it is with a
salary cap than not. I'd much rather have baseball with
a salary cap than not. And although Rob Manfred, sure
what you guys are saying is correct, he's trying to
put money in the in ownership's pockets, there's no doubt.
But I think you'd be lying to yourself if you
said that doesn't help baseball overall as well. I think
(53:17):
that'd be a major part.
Speaker 6 (53:18):
Of it to me.
Speaker 7 (53:21):
Brian, Again, I was on your side of this debate
for a long time, and I feel like what you've
been convinced of, like I was, is say you walk
into a restaurant and somebody's offering you soup and they
say it's made with the freshness of ingredients and it's
organic and it's farm to table, and you have these
farmers who are growing these vegetables without pesticides or fung
(53:45):
just sides, and.
Speaker 6 (53:45):
You have the beef that we use for this soup.
Speaker 7 (53:48):
Is you know it's sourced from you know, cows that
we meet when they're little little calves and we watch
them raised on the pasture and they just have one
bad day. And you know, everything is sourced locally, and
that's how we make.
Speaker 6 (54:02):
Our soup every time. And you say, well, it's delicious soup.
It's delicious soup.
Speaker 7 (54:06):
And then you walk into that restaurant, say a year later,
and they're serving the same soup.
Speaker 6 (54:13):
They call it the same thing.
Speaker 7 (54:15):
And you say, wow, this soup is delicious again, you know,
And then you start telling the story to the person
you're sitting next to you.
Speaker 6 (54:21):
You're like, and you know what. The way they make
the soup.
Speaker 7 (54:23):
They have the cows and you're all local raised, and
then they got the farm to table produce.
Speaker 6 (54:29):
And then the waiter goes, hey, you know, not so fast,
not so fast. We don't do it that way anymore.
Speaker 7 (54:34):
We use genetically modified tomatoes, and you know, the cucumbers.
We actually found a way actually to eliminate the cucumbers
altogether in the soup, and we actually we actually just
flavor it to make it taste like there's cucumbers in there.
Speaker 6 (54:51):
There's a lot more chemicals in this soup.
Speaker 7 (54:53):
We found a way to manufacture this soup to taste
the exact same way but it's it's this suit basically,
and so you say, well, the soup is still delicious,
But all that's happened here is the restaurant saving money,
and somebody somewhere down the line is getting screwed, the
(55:14):
local farmers, you know, the cattle ramchers. See, that's my
problem with this. Changing the payroll situation does nothing for
the fan. So we're tasting the same product, but you're
screwing people along the way.
Speaker 6 (55:28):
So these players get less money.
Speaker 7 (55:30):
It enriches the MLB owners and by the way, many
of them who will still find ways to screw their
fan bases, like the Colorado Rockies owners.
Speaker 6 (55:38):
Look at the way the A's and the Rays have
done it.
Speaker 7 (55:40):
Okay, they've drafted smart, they've brought in people who understand
baseball analytics, they've changed the way we look at the
sport all together, and they found a way to win
and compete against the bigger teams out there with bigger
payrolls and stuff like that. And the reason why is
because they got creative. If the our payroll always loses, well,
(56:02):
then we wouldn't be a country, you know what I mean.
The Revolutionary War proves the point, and many other revolutions
across history.
Speaker 6 (56:10):
I mean, it's it's the way this works. Sometimes.
Speaker 7 (56:14):
Sometimes you got to get creative instead of dumping money
on a problem.
Speaker 6 (56:18):
And guess what if you want more parody, maybe.
Speaker 7 (56:22):
Let's get some richer owners to compete with the Dodgers
and compete with the Boston Red Sox who seem to
have an unlimited or the New York Bank you have
a limited.
Speaker 6 (56:31):
Pool of cash.
Speaker 7 (56:32):
I just don't think that limiting the player's potential to
earn is going to change the taste of the soup,
the end product for the consumer.
Speaker 6 (56:41):
So I I just think that assumption is wrong. It's
gonna be this game.
Speaker 4 (56:48):
Look at the NFL. You telling me if they just
because they play games, Brian, do you think, because that's
not what I'm saying, if they got rid of the
salary cap, you don't think that would change things greatly?
What do you talking about?
Speaker 6 (57:02):
Did you think that I'm gonna use that argument against you?
Speaker 7 (57:05):
You think that changing the salary cap is really gonna
change how competitive baseball is?
Speaker 3 (57:10):
Absolutely?
Speaker 6 (57:10):
I don't do't. Here's the problem.
Speaker 3 (57:13):
No, here here's the current problem.
Speaker 5 (57:16):
We kind of already have a system in place to
help the small market teams.
Speaker 3 (57:22):
It's called revenue sharing. Each team gets two hundred million
a year.
Speaker 5 (57:29):
They get one to ten from the local and about
ninety from the national of This was twenty twoenty two numbers.
Speaker 3 (57:34):
Maybe they're even higher now.
Speaker 5 (57:36):
So every owner, before they even wake up and make
a dime from anything else, make two hundred million in
a collective pot.
Speaker 3 (57:46):
Oh, by the way, if.
Speaker 5 (57:48):
You go look at the salaries of the teams in
Major League Baseball, more than half of them have a
payroll less than two hundred million, which means they are
not using the full two hundred million that they're getting
in a revenue share to pay their players. It's greedy
owners more than anything else.
Speaker 3 (58:05):
Well, that's a part of it. Yeah, that is a
huge part of it.
Speaker 5 (58:08):
That's the problem with this argument works for the owners.
You have to remember that relationship and how the river flows.
So whatever Manford says is a mouthpiece of the owners.
The owners want a salary cap. They are sick of
paying this money even though they get a revenue share
(58:29):
that totals more than what half of the team's payrolls
are in baseball. That's the bigger issue to me here, guys.
Speaker 4 (58:36):
Well, you have to have a floor. Also, easy solution,
like some of these franchises are a joke. You have
to agreed X amount of money.
Speaker 5 (58:42):
That don't even start the salary cap discussion unless you're
going to also.
Speaker 3 (58:46):
Talk salary floor. Totally agree with that.
Speaker 4 (58:49):
We've got Bo Benz and our trusted producer. He's a
big baseball guy, wants the way in both.
Speaker 9 (58:53):
That was exactly what I was going to say is
everyone wants to talk about salary cap, but what comes
up the salary cap as a salary floor and the
owners of the Miami Marlins, the Saint Louis Cardinals, Colorado Rockies,
Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates are not going to want
a salary floor, So it's a moot discussion.
Speaker 5 (59:08):
Exactly got the bow a plod retweet Bo Benson right there,
nailed it all.
Speaker 3 (59:17):
We've got to go ahead.
Speaker 5 (59:19):
Rich.
Speaker 6 (59:20):
Well, sorry, I was just gonna say, put a bow
on it.
Speaker 7 (59:22):
It's one of these discussions where, like I said, I
flip flapped on it. I used to believe one that
the salary cap would fix it until the pandemic hit
and I realized, oh my god, Baseball's problem has nothing
to do with how much they're paying these players. It
has everything to do with how diluted this product is,
and it's awful. Try a Coca Cola where half of
(59:43):
it is filled up with water. It'll taste like it'll
it tastes like a cleaning agent. You know, you want
the full flavor you got. You have to concentrate the
product and you have to get back to something that's actually,
I don't know, serviceably interesting on a night in, night
out basis.
Speaker 5 (01:00:01):
It's just that's why you go to McDonald's. You get
the really good syrup they put in the fountain drink.
Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
That's to me. I had the answer to that right there.
Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
Well, we're not gonna have a fifty game season, so
I don't know what to say.
Speaker 5 (01:00:11):
And they're not going to even go one forty because
the TV deals, because then that revenue share would go down,
and then the owners would get really would get really
freaky about that. Bo honestly, bottle up what you said
and sell it. That is exactly the reason why we
can't have this discussion because the owners aren't willing to
go floor.
Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
They're willing to go cat, they're not willing to go floor.
Speaker 4 (01:00:32):

Speaker 1 (01:01:41):
This follow the money real good one.
Speaker 4 (01:01:46):
Hi, Yes, we are following the money with our good friend,
Christian Cipolini, BETMGM Trading Manager. Good morning to you, Christian. Okay,
So a little bit of a wordy question for you. Okay,
But I'm looking at these investigations, right, MLB Pitcher Weeze
or a Tis, he's under MLB investigation, Malik Beasley, he's
under federal investigation because there have been some shady things
(01:02:08):
that have raised red flags. Right, So I'm curious from
your standpoint. We have these betting integrity firms that monitor
if a bet raises to be you know, like a
red flag. We got to investigate this. But you personally,
you see bets flowing on a daily basis, And I'm
just curious, from your standpoint, generally speaking, what is it
(01:02:31):
when you see a bet where you just say, oh,
that's just a big bet, no big deal compared to Wow,
that that's a shady bet right there. I wonder what's
going on? What is it that what does it take
for you to say that when something shady does go
go through like.
Speaker 10 (01:02:47):
That speaks to one the importance of regulated markets because
you know, while it doesn't seem like a good thing
that you see these kind of like a scandals in
the news, Uh, it shows the fact that it is working,
that we are able to catch these things and these
things that wouldn't be caught in you know, an unregulated market.
(01:03:09):
From our side, what we can see, you know, we
have reports that we can run. You know, there's markets
that we see it sometimes. You know that Luis ortiz One.
We didn't offer that selection, so I can't specifically comment
on it, but things that I have seen in the
past is that's probably a pretty low liquidity market. They
probably only hold you know, maybe a couple thousand, you know,
(01:03:30):
on those bets. So if suddenly, you know, you start
seeing someone trying to bet a lot more than that
coming in, it's gonna start to raise eyebrows. Okay, you know,
for one, this is a market that could be manipulated
by one person. So if it's a market like that
that can be manipulated and we start to see, you know,
bets that are unusual, bigger bets than normal. We'll definitely
(01:03:52):
always kind of look into that. You know, sometimes if
it's you can kind of tell sometimes the difference. A
point back to one that we had a few years
back with the LSU baseball Alabama game where the coach
ended up getting fired because he was giving out information
early before it came to a certain person. The person
(01:04:15):
that was trying to bet, and the market was trying
to bet one hundreds of thousands into the market that
typically took you know, five ten thousand bucks. So that
was a pretty quick easy red flag for us. And Okay,
something's a little bit suspicious here. And then what's nice
is those integrity companies. You know, they reached out to
all the books, so if we're getting hit, it's another
book's getting hit. You know, we can all kind of
(01:04:35):
go to the same place and say, hey, are we
all seeing the same thing. And then they're the ones
that can sit there independently is a third party and
do some research and investigate themselves determine what is actually.
Speaker 7 (01:04:45):
Going on here.
Speaker 5 (01:04:46):
Fantastic question, Brian, Fantastic answer, Christian Honestly, I couldn't have
put it any better myself.
Speaker 3 (01:04:51):
I've said this for the last couple of months.
Speaker 5 (01:04:53):
You know, we've had a few of these pop up
over the last couple of months, really the last two weeks,
it's been really intense and everyone one like the common
thread I see Christian on the average person social media
about this is this is what regulated gambling, legalized gambling
is doing to sports.
Speaker 3 (01:05:12):
It's ruining sports.
Speaker 5 (01:05:14):
And my pushback of that is this is happening regardless
of legalized gambling big in this country or not. The
difference now is we have I would call it like
the United Nations, Like that's what these integrity firms kind
of are, Like, They're just these governing bodies that can
bring it to your point, and they work together with
(01:05:35):
the books.
Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
Hey this book seeing this? Are you seeing this?
Speaker 6 (01:05:37):
Like?
Speaker 5 (01:05:37):
They are the intermediary and it allows the process. It
allows the system to actually find you know how hard
it would have been to find these bad actors. If
this system was not in place, this could have happened
for years years the you know Luis artiz Are people
like him, could have continued this.
Speaker 3 (01:05:57):
I think it's too I think it's twofold.
Speaker 5 (01:05:59):
It's the integral firms, and it's also frankly, the greed
of the people, because if they were really chill about it,
hey just a little bit here, a little bit on
this game.
Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
Yeah, a little bit on this game.
Speaker 5 (01:06:10):
A little bit on this game, they probably could have
flown under the radar, but they were a little.
Speaker 3 (01:06:14):
Too greedy in this particular situation. Is that correct?
Speaker 10 (01:06:18):
Yeah, I mean that that tends to be a lot
of times of it. So, but I don't want to
talk about it too much that Yeah, it's you know,
there are ways probably to get around it, but it
does just speak to the you know, the the point
of the regulated market is, you know, while we are
seeing this, we are catching it. We are seeing it.
I think there was a couple in college basketball as
(01:06:38):
well that happened where you know, you have college athletes
that sometimes might not know better than they aren't getting
a ton of money and they say, oh, I can
sit here and you know, I can make a couple
of thousand dollars if you know, I just don't score
as many points in this game, which is really a shame.
But the fact that we are catching it, I think
is a very good.
Speaker 6 (01:06:56):
Sign Yeah, it's a very funny comment.
Speaker 7 (01:06:59):
You just made their Christian as a trading manager at
bet MGM.
Speaker 6 (01:07:02):
I'm not going to tell you how to cheat better.
It's like.
Speaker 7 (01:07:07):
Politically, lifters need to learn this one tip to do better.
Speaker 10 (01:07:13):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:07:14):
So we're looking it's mid July. We're looking at the
lineup here. You know, we have Wimbledon, as Brian Tz
prior to chatting with you, We've got w n B A,
we have NBA Summer League. I guess college football and
NFL futures are always available. What what is really drawing
the most, uh the most tickets at the window.
Speaker 6 (01:07:36):
Is it tennis?
Speaker 10 (01:07:39):
Probably tomorrow will be tennis. The women's final though it
does really perform really well, and obviously Wimbledon is the
big one, that is always the biggest heads event. MLB
is still going to drive a ton. We still have
a full slate today and tomorrow. But the fact that
we're also getting uh, you know, a rematch of the
French Open that was you know, basically an instant classic
is definitely an drive a lot of people but want
(01:08:01):
to watch and two autoso to sit there and bet
on it. So this weekend, for sure, tennis is going
to be one of the major ones. And then into
next week is our quiet week as we get into
the MLB All Star weekend. We have very little on
the calendar from Monday through Thursday, so sometimes we call
that vacation week here at the book.
Speaker 4 (01:08:22):
There you go, how about how about the summer league, Christian,
how much action do you see flow in if you
could compare it to other sports to give us an example.
And also, is that a market that you see a
good amount of sharp action in?
Speaker 3 (01:08:35):
Great question?
Speaker 10 (01:08:37):
Yeah, someone we can get interesting, especially because there's a
lot of volatility, so you know, sharp action has a
lot of times, and especially the fact that it's in
Vegas adds a little bit of an element to it
where a lot of the sharp betters are located. Because
what will happen a lot is players don't play as much,
you know, there's not as much of a need to play,
and you'll start to see some of the bigger names,
(01:08:58):
some of the people that are solid on NBA rosters
start to kind of drop off as we kind of
get a little bit later into the summer league. So
at some point we'll probably stop seeing super flagged from
these top prospects that are there. Obviously, since Super Flag
isn't playing, it's going to have a significant change to
the line. So a lot of times if people are
on top of that, they can definitely get pretty good edge.
(01:09:22):
The something league does does do pretty decent action. You know,
maybe see a little bit less than an NHL regular
season game, but for the middle of the summer usually
we're kind of happy that this is here because it
is it does give something different for betters to bet on.
Speaker 5 (01:09:38):
Has this been a unique year at all for you
with betting baseball with the handle? I just we just
had a really big discussion about the salary cap and
and and kind of the way that baseball structures their
season and just the amount of games that there is,
and just how hard it is for the average fan
to just stay up with the volume every single night.
I'm always curious we're at that midway point now, have
(01:10:00):
you noticed any difference year over year, or let's say
year over last five years that this season is a
little bit more unique high or low in terms of
the handle for MLB.
Speaker 10 (01:10:13):
Yeah, it's it's I think it's been about the same.
The NBA and the NHL playoffs definitely were not good
for the betters, so you do see a little bit
of a drop off, especially you know, not as much
money as people pocket or the way that those two
playoff runs went. And then on top of that as well,
this hasn't been a good month for MLB betters. It's
(01:10:36):
actually been one of our better months throughout the MLB.
So those type of things start to add up and
they do eat in the handle a bit. So that's
why it is nice to have a couple other things
wimbled in, other options out there, because, as you mentioned,
MLB does get really tough, especially at this part of
the schedule. It's really in the heart of it. You know,
it's tough to make a difference between today's game and
(01:10:56):
tomorrow teams, and then just the really the grind starts
to to some of these players. You know, sometimes they're
not taking it as seriously at game one hundred of
one hundred and sixty two, So it definitely makes it tough.
Speaker 7 (01:11:09):
Hey, with the rise of prop betting and prop bet culture,
have used much more intense interest on the Summer League
games because I know, just based off that one data point,
my interest in Summer League has skyrocketed.
Speaker 3 (01:11:25):
Yep.
Speaker 10 (01:11:27):
Yeah, we do offer which is not my favorite market.
So we do offer fighter propsy in these summer league games.
So we offer points and rebounds and three pointers made,
which you know, we have very low limits because it's
a it's a market that can chain very quickly. But yeah,
I mean we do see action on it people and
(01:11:48):
obviously love player props. We try to offer as much
as we can. Even with MLB. You know, there's plenty
of the same game parlays, and every day I do look
and there's somebody that hits a nice home run parlay
for ten to fifteen bucks with a couple palace, and
so those are always the good ones, the ones I
like to see.
Speaker 3 (01:12:03):
Very nice.
Speaker 6 (01:12:04):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (01:12:05):
It does your heart good to see those betters win,
doesn't it.
Speaker 10 (01:12:09):
I'm rooting for the players way more than you think.
I love to see what he's been exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 10 (01:12:17):
Doesn't my salary and.
Speaker 4 (01:12:20):
You're gonna be winning anyway, you know, right he publicized
one parlay. All these knuckleheads bet nineteen thousand parlays.
Speaker 3 (01:12:27):
And you win all those parlay.
Speaker 4 (01:12:31):
All right, Christian, great stuff as always, man, Good to
catch up with you on a Saturday. I hope you
have a good day. We'll catch you soon.
Speaker 1 (01:12:37):
Of course.
Speaker 3 (01:12:37):
He thanks for having me absolutely there.
Speaker 4 (01:12:40):
He is Christian Sippolini Bet MGM Trading manager. Very good stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:12:44):
By the way.
Speaker 4 (01:12:45):
Uh, did you guys randomly catch former NFL running back
Adrian Peterson getting into a fight, a fist fight with
the poker players? You see that recently? Oh yeah, yeah,
So there's another layer.
Speaker 3 (01:12:58):
To this story.
Speaker 4 (01:13:00):
So Adrian Peterson, he's gonna be fighting this guy in
the ring. He signed up if it's a celebrity boxing
match between Adrian Peterson and the poker player who he
got into a fistfight with. So this will happen in
the not too distant future. But what do you think
about that? You interested in a celebrity boxing match between
Adrian Peterson and this poker player.
Speaker 7 (01:13:22):
Only if BETTMGM and Fox Sports Radio puts us ringside up.
Speaker 6 (01:13:29):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (01:13:30):
I bet the gambling for that will be fantastic. I mean, listen,
what what's a boxing match without a good bet?
Speaker 3 (01:13:36):
Well, sure, yeah, you know, you know it's funny.
Speaker 4 (01:13:38):
I'm curious, uh, not to go too deep into it,
but what do you guys think about it? Because there
are a lot of boxing purists that are like, oh,
celebrity boxing matches, Like that's the worst thing ever, Jake
Paul is the worst thing ever.
Speaker 3 (01:13:51):
I'm like, look, man.
Speaker 4 (01:13:52):
Whatever gets you into the tent, you know what I mean? Like,
if you're interested in boxing through celebrity boxing, great, whatever
gets you there. That's how I would look at it.
And I'm a fight fan, don't. I don't look down
at the celebrity boxing stuff is it's still tied to boxing, obviously.
I don't look at it as a bad, horrible thing
(01:14:14):
for boxing itself.
Speaker 7 (01:14:17):
Agree, it's the Taylor Swift effect on the NFL. There's
some purest fans who are like, oh, oh my god,
they're taking my football and they're turning into this pop
culture thing. It's like, who cares, Let's bring more people
under the tent. And I don't care if your wife
or your girlfriend, or I don't know, your your sister
or your brother for that matter, are watching football now
(01:14:40):
because of Taylor Swift. If there's more interest in something
you're interested in, what all of a sudden it becomes uncool?
I mean that is a mindset with certain cultures. You know,
there's that hipster you know thought process that you know,
Once this goes mainstream, I'm out.
Speaker 6 (01:14:58):
I gotta be on the cutting edge of cool, you know.
But I'm not like that.
Speaker 7 (01:15:03):
I say, the more the merrier, let's all be interested
in And if it's celebrity boxing, that's your gateway drugged
enjoying boxing.
Speaker 6 (01:15:11):
Overall, I'm fine with it.
Speaker 4 (01:15:15):
Yeah, Yeah, no doubt. I think that's well said for sure. Right,

Speaker 1 (01:16:12):
I'll show with judges.
Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
Bellinger hits one deep the right center back at the
wall is Chucker.
Speaker 6 (01:16:20):
Know that ball went over the wall.
Speaker 7 (01:16:22):
There we go, there's another belly bomb and Cody Bellinger
gets his third belly bomb of the night.
Speaker 3 (01:16:32):
That's complements of Yankees Radio Network.

Speaker 6 (01:16:49):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (01:16:50):
Cody Bellinger three home runs against his former team, like
real fast before we get to prop it up. You
know what's crazy, fellas, is when you can say, hey,
this is the first guy to do this in Major
League baseball, It's like, yeah, that's that's saying something right there.
But Cody Bellinger was the first guy to hit three
home runs in his first game against his former team.
Speaker 3 (01:17:14):
Don't trade Cody Bellinger. Note to sell.
Speaker 4 (01:17:17):
Yeah, they got many players have faced their former teams.
Speaker 5 (01:17:21):
You know it's that's belly bomb sounds like something I
would buy on the strip, like at a bar, Like, hey,
we we're selling belly bombs two for a dollar.
Speaker 3 (01:17:29):
Yeah, something with alcohol for sure.
Speaker 7 (01:17:32):
Ye.
Speaker 3 (01:17:33):
All right, let's get to.
Speaker 1 (01:17:34):
This prop it up player plays.
Speaker 4 (01:17:40):
Yes, the prop betting waters.
Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
They are soothing shared. We start with you with something
you like.
Speaker 5 (01:17:45):
Yeah, this is a situational angle today, a very interesting game.
Phillies and Padres and and Rich has probably watched this
Padres lineup more than me this year. So I'm not
going to talk about how great this San Diego lineup is.
That's not the part of the handicap that's important. But
Zach Wheeler under eighteen and a half outs hear me out.
So cy young favorite right now is having a great year.
(01:18:06):
If you go back and look at what happened last year.
The last start before the All Star break, Wheeler went
five innings and they shut him down real early because
they wanted to give him just a little bit of
extra rest because then he gets the long break into
the All Star week, and then he'll now have a
little bit of extra gas in the tank heading into
the second half, I think Rob Thompson's gonna do the
(01:18:28):
exact same thing today. I think Wheeler is gonna go
six innings max, and then they're gonna shut him down
and say, hey, listen, Bud, you've gone over one hundred
and fifteen innings in this first half.
Speaker 6 (01:18:37):
We need you in the second half.
Speaker 5 (01:18:39):
So I think it's gonna be a shorter outing than
usual for Zach Wheeler. Not because he's not gonna pitch well,
and not because this Padres lineup is great. They are great,
But I think the situational angle of Wheeler getting just
a little bit of extra rest before the All Star
break is why I'll go under eighteen and a half
outs over at that FGM.
Speaker 7 (01:18:57):
Nice interesting, This Philly is Padre's game is filled with
hitters and some who have been on a streak lately.
I'm gonna more than two or over two hits runs
Ribby's for Bryce Harper. I feel like, for whatever reason,
this matchup, and maybe it's because they recently have faced
(01:19:18):
each other in the postseason, it's becoming a bit of
a rivalry and it's becoming more offensive.
Speaker 6 (01:19:26):
Than defensive, if that makes sense.
Speaker 7 (01:19:28):
The bats come out to play when the Phillies and
the Padres face one another.
Speaker 6 (01:19:32):
So I like Bryce over the two Ribby's.
Speaker 7 (01:19:36):
Hits runs in this one. You get minus won twenty
odds on that.
Speaker 4 (01:19:41):
Okay, I'll go back to the WNBA on you again.
I'm just gonna stick with the same theme. The Chicago
skuy do not play defense.
Speaker 3 (01:19:51):
Let's start with that. So let's look at the points market.
Speaker 4 (01:19:54):
The Feasta Collier fantastic player, probably gonna be the WNBA MVP.
Hard to for her not to win this award. She's fantastic.
I think she's gonna score over twenty one and a
half points. You got hooked last time against Chicago, which
makes me like this a little bit more right like
twenty one points last game against Chicago. But I think
(01:20:16):
she takes advantage of the situation and the lack of
defense from the Chicago Sky.
Speaker 3 (01:20:22):
Give me the visa.
Speaker 4 (01:20:23):
Collier always a threat to go over twenty one and
a half against the Sky.
Speaker 3 (01:20:27):
I like it even more. I'll go over that. Collier
is definitely winning the MVP.
Speaker 5 (01:20:31):
Absolutely, just a I guess a PSA for prop betters
in the baseball world. This weekend, today and tomorrow are
the last two days before the All Star break.
Speaker 3 (01:20:40):
Keep that in mind.
Speaker 5 (01:20:41):
Guys will just like the Wheeler Angle, guys will be like, hey,
you know, I'm a little bit banged up, Like let's
let me go only half my outing today or seventy
five percent.
Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
Give me that extra.
Speaker 5 (01:20:50):
Break going into you know, the All Star week keep
in mind with props, you might get some really weird
playing time imbalances because of the All Star break kind
in this weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:21:01):
I love it because it gives you an extra out
if you're on the under, even if it's brilliant, you
have that extra possibility.
Speaker 3 (01:21:08):
In your favor.
Speaker 4 (01:21:09):
Though very well known. All right, coming up next, there's
so much help in the offseason. So let's talk about
people losing their jobs. Oh what is going on top
of the morning too?
Speaker 7 (01:21:19):
You?
Speaker 4 (01:21:19):
I hope you're a Saturday is off to a fantastic start.
We will get to coaches maybe getting axed this season, right, like,
how long is your list? Exactly? So that's coming up
in just a few seconds. You can stream this show
and all of our Fox Sports Radio shows live twenty
four to seven and the new and improved iHeartRadio app.
(01:21:40):
Just search Fox Sports Radio in the app to stream
US Live. And one of the newest features in the
app is that you can select Fox Sports Radio as
one of your presets, just like the presets on a
radio dial. So be sure to preset Fox Sports Radio
in the iHeartRadio app and it'll always pop up at
the top of your screen. Okay, so first off, what
made me think about this? The Dolphins, My Dolphins, my
(01:22:04):
precious fins. Right, they're reportedly interested. There's a hot new
rumor they're interested in signing veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen.
And in the rundown, I wrote, I was yawning while
I typed that last sentence, and then I checked the
numbers this morning. The numbers are a little bit better
than you might think. I think some of this was
(01:22:26):
he was with the Bears last season. The Bears didn't
have a good year wins and losses wise. And it
turns into man, Keenan Allen is a shell of himself.
He's clearly not prime Keenan Allen anymore. But do you
think these numbers are a little bit better than you
would have anticipated? So last season with the Bears, in
fifteen games, seventy catches, seven hundred and forty four yards,
(01:22:49):
seven touchdowns. It's pretty decent, right, I mean, it's okay,
it's respectable. So I don't think this move would do
wonders for the Dolphins, but you can do a whole
lot worse than Tyreek Hill, Jalen Waddle Keenan Allen as
your one two three combo platter right there. What do
you think about this hot rumor of the Dolphins maybe
(01:23:09):
signing Keenan Allen.
Speaker 7 (01:23:12):
I think it would be a brilliant move for them
because one of the things you need for a player
like Tua is multiple places to get the football quickly
because he's not highly mobile and he's often injured great,
so it's all about.
Speaker 6 (01:23:29):
Ball snapped, get the ball out. Keenan Allen is an
elite route runner.
Speaker 7 (01:23:33):
You have speed that could take the top off the defense.
With Tyreek Hill and obviously a very serviceable, if not excellent,
pass catcher and Waddle, that would be a trio that
could do some damage against most defenses in the NFL.
If Tua is having one of his better years, which
with health, that's what you always anticipate heading into a season.
Speaker 5 (01:23:57):
Yeah, I agree, I think, and as much as I
love Keenan Allen. I don't think he's like needle moving material,
but he's consistent. He adds depth, and let's be honest,
I think Miami. I think if there was a team
right now, if you ask me, okay, Jared, close your eyes,
crystal ball, what's the first coach that's gonna either a
(01:24:20):
be fired or be get talked about so much that
we think he's all getting fired. I think McDaniel's at
the top of the list right now. The only reason
that I would I'm not saying gable is because they
just drafted a young quarterback in the first round, and
he's a quarterback guru, and I think that's kind of
like an extra a little security blanket for him because
(01:24:43):
they made that move up right, they trade it up
in the first round for Jackson Dart, and I don't think.
Speaker 3 (01:24:47):
They make that move.
Speaker 5 (01:24:48):
You know, the GM and this GM and coach in
New York seem to be kind of in tandem, Shane
and Dabele, and they both just got you know, kind
of another year. I think of security with the move
to draft the quarterback in the first round.
Speaker 3 (01:25:00):
So I think McDaniel is.
Speaker 5 (01:25:03):
The first coach on the hot seat this year, and
I think this move is kind of Hey, we got
to get as many pieces around him as possible because
if not, things are gonna go south really quick.
Speaker 3 (01:25:14):
Yeah, that's the next part of it.
Speaker 4 (01:25:15):
Right where the Finns, maybe we're gonna sign Keenan Allen
And I love your points, Rich right where Tua is
not a great athletes, not moving around buying time like
Lamar Jackson or something back there, and you gotta get
rid of the football. Think about it. They lost John
new Smith, who had a bunch of catches really.
Speaker 3 (01:25:37):
Is stellar season.
Speaker 4 (01:25:38):
They're only pro bowler, but that was big for Tua
because sometimes you gotta throw hot, you've got to get
rid of the football instead of taking that additional punishment.
So yeah, Keenan Allen could help with that. But with
all that being said, yeah, I'm with Jared Man, the
Dolphins have lost a ton of talent. I think Mike
McDaniel is a great candidate to get fired. I don't
know if he's gonna be the first coach to get fired,
(01:26:00):
you know, like in the season or something like that.
But I don't think he has a job with the
Finns after this season. It's just it's a team not
too long ago when Tua was on a rookie contract.
They had a ton of talent and high expectations. And
when you're a couple of years removed from that and
the roster isn't what it once was, and you know,
(01:26:20):
you have a six and eleven season, Like, you're just
not gonna hold onto your job if that's the case.
So I think McDaniel gets fired after the season. I
think Brian Dable gets fired after the season. The only
way is, like what you said with Jackson Dart, if
he gets on the field show some promise, Well, maybe
they hold on to him again. But I just can't
anticipate the Giants winning many games.
Speaker 3 (01:26:42):
And when you're on the heels.
Speaker 4 (01:26:43):
Of a three and fourteen season, like, how do you
justify running it back again if they're four and you know, thirteen.
I think he's gonna be gone when it's all said
and done.
Speaker 6 (01:26:54):
It's unless unless.
Speaker 7 (01:26:59):
Unless he is what they thought he was when they
hired him, which is a QB whisper. You know, and
think about what he was tasked to do with the
tools he was given. You know, your hand to Daniel Jones,
that wasn't his choice. That was the New York Jets
or excuse me, Giants' current quarterback situation, and then you
(01:27:19):
took away Sakuon Barkley from him, you know, so it's like, Okay, yeah,
he's on the hot seat. But I do think it's
actually an intelligent and wise decision from an ownership group
that hasn't made a ton of them lately to keep
him on and see if he really has the goods now. Hopefully,
Dart was a selection that he was comfortable with, that
(01:27:43):
he had a lot to say about in terms of
positive evaluation. What he was able to do with excuse me,
Josh Allen as the Bills offensive coordinator was nothing short
of miraculous. If you look at Josh Allen's completion percentage
stats in college at Wyoming compared to what he was
able to become as a pro normally, you don't see
(01:28:06):
leaps like that. We're talking about bounding leaps forward. He
had a similar completion percentage as Tim Tebow coming out
of Florida. Tim Tebow never amounted a mobile quarterback, really
talented guy, winner, never amounted to anything in the NFL
at the quarterback position. Well, Josh Allen did, and so
(01:28:27):
I'm not saying Jackson Dart will as well, but at
least they're giving him an opportunity to see if he
can't mold a drafted quarterback into something that's fell worthy,
if not playoff worthy at that position. And I do
think it's smart to give him a shot, but I
think that's a short leash.
Speaker 6 (01:28:47):
Brian, I would agree with that.
Speaker 5 (01:28:49):
This brings me to and I'm glad we're having this
discussion because I think you guys nailed the Giants part
of it. But it brings me to the discussion of
there's going to be one of these teams with a
win total of less than eight that's going to make
the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:29:03):
How do I know this?
Speaker 5 (01:29:04):
It's happened every year since two thousand. In fact, in
twenty of the twenty four years, two teams with a
win total of less than eight or I guess eight
or less have made the playoffs. Last year Washington, Denver, Minnesota,
three teams. Three teams last year made the playoffs with
(01:29:24):
a win total of eight or less.
Speaker 3 (01:29:26):
So here are your options.
Speaker 5 (01:29:27):
It's if you don't think it's going to be the Giants,
throw them out. You've got Atlanta, Dallas, Indy, Jacksonville, New England, Seattle, Carolina, Vegas,
New Orleans, Cleveland, Jets, Giants, Titans. Obviously we're eliminating Giants
based off this discussion, but history tells us one of
those teams that I just mentioned is going to make
the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:29:45):
So who's it going to be? I like the Arizona Cardinals,
I've been No, they're at eight and a half. They're
not eligible. They're not eligible.
Speaker 5 (01:29:53):
Atlanta, Dallas, Indy, Jacksonville, New England their popular choice, Seattle, Carolina, Vegas.
Speaker 3 (01:30:00):
New Orleans, Cleveland, Jets, Giants, Titans. Those would be seven
and a halfs or less. I think the Patriots have
a really good ja. That's the trendy choice.
Speaker 5 (01:30:07):
Jacksonville, too, they play in that division, I think is
another trendy choice.
Speaker 4 (01:30:11):
I think it would take some injuries to other teams
in their division.
Speaker 6 (01:30:16):
But injuries always happen though, right.
Speaker 4 (01:30:18):
Yeah, absolutely, Like we don't play these we don't play
seasons on paper. Okay, but the Cowboys, man, I know
people look at them as a punchline. But again, they've
got a legitimately talented roster.
Speaker 3 (01:30:31):
So would it.
Speaker 4 (01:30:31):
Shock me if they somehow snuck into the playoffs. No,
it wouldn't they get three teams in the same division.
It's tough to do. Like the NFC North was such
a gauntlet last season and they did it. That's not
easy to do. The AFC West did it also. Do
I see three playoff playoff teams from the NFC East.
That's gonna be hard to see. But hey man, maybe
(01:30:52):
maybe the injury bug hits Philly Nasty after a Super
Bowl winning season. It wouldn't be the craziest thing ever.
Speaker 6 (01:31:00):
Teams making it.
Speaker 7 (01:31:01):
It's yeah, the the NFC East in general, when you
look around that division, I'm very curious how many of
even the current head coaches outside the Commanders obviously are
rolling off a pretty impressive season, are going to be
there after a couple seasons, you know what I mean, Like,
couldn't you see wholesale change across the board now? Jerry
(01:31:25):
Jones usually stays pretty late at the party with every
head coach higher. But he's getting older and I know,
you know, he wants a Super Bowl and Dak's getting
closer and closer to the end of his road as
a starting NFL quarterback. You know, you look at the
situation in New York you look at the situation in Philly,
I'm really I'm very curious what ends up happening overall
(01:31:46):
in the NFC East at the head coaching position.
Speaker 4 (01:31:49):
Well, if you look at if you get back to
the which coaches are going to get fired at the
end of the season. Yeah, what's interesting is you look
around the league and just go team by team, and
a lot of these teams are most likely going to
have good enough seasons where you don't fire your head coach.
And there are so many like first year, second year
(01:32:10):
head coaches where it's so early it would have to
be a disaster for those guys to get run. And
so it's funny at the end of the season, we're like, oh, candidate,
candidate Canada, he's gone, he's gone, he's gone, And there
are a lot of firings. But at the beginning of
the season, it's not as easy to tell in forecast
who's gonna be gone. I think a couple of candidates,
(01:32:31):
even though we know the Browns are going to be
a grease fire and lose a ton of games this season.
We know this, you know, like Kevin Stefanski, maybe maybe
a candidate at the end of the season, even though
there are no expectations for the Browns to do anything
this season, I think the Colts head coach Shane Steichen
would have to be a candidate.
Speaker 6 (01:32:51):
No, they're not gonna have same year the owner.
Speaker 3 (01:32:54):
That's tough.
Speaker 4 (01:32:55):
That is tough, but right, you're not gonna have good
quarterback play. It's most likely going to be Daniel Jones there,
Anthony Richardson banged up. But I'm confidence saying it's not
gonna be stellar either way. I can lead to a
lot of losses and then also a team with higher expectations.
But if it's another disappointing season, the Bengals don't have
(01:33:16):
a defense. What if the Bengals are a non playoff
team losing record, maybe they think about firing Zach Taylor,
who I don't think he's a bad head coach, but
that's one that I would.
Speaker 3 (01:33:28):
At least say is on the radar for me. Taylor's tough.
The flip side of this argument with the.
Speaker 5 (01:33:34):
Teams that are really good that are gonna underachieve, that's
always the flip side.
Speaker 6 (01:33:39):
Yep, that's true too.
Speaker 7 (01:33:40):
Yeah, because there's certain coaches who again talking about staying
late at the party. You know, you can have some
success and maybe back Taylor and the Bengals are an
example of a team that have had some success. The
defense really let down that team last year, but you
(01:34:01):
or even the Browns. The Browns I realized last year
again wasn't a good example of this recent string of success.
But the year prior in twenty twenty three, that was
a playoff team and.
Speaker 6 (01:34:13):
Coach Stefanski one Coach of the year. You know.
Speaker 7 (01:34:16):
So it's like you can be very quickly departed from
you know, a pretty high height in terms of your
coaching career and be on the hot seats. So no
argument here, Brian, I mean the Colts. Anytime there's a
change at the top. I mean, just think about when
a CEO or a founder passes away suddenly and an
(01:34:40):
air of some sort takes over a company.
Speaker 6 (01:34:43):
The first thing they want to do is make sure.
Speaker 7 (01:34:45):
They know that, well, I'm not my dad, I'm going
to run things a little differently around here in heads roll,
and so it is highly likely we see change in Indy.
Speaker 3 (01:34:57):
That's a good point. I didn't think of it from
that perspective.
Speaker 5 (01:35:00):
I guess I'm just a little bit higher on Stike
in than like I think Stichen's a really good coach,
and if he gets fired, he's gonna have another job
really quick. Maybe not as a head coach, but absolutely
as an offensive coordinator. I love these these polarizing, uh
you know discussions, right like, which team with a win
total of less than eight it's gonna make the playoffs?
Speaker 3 (01:35:22):
It happens every year.
Speaker 5 (01:35:23):
How about every year since two thousand, a team with
a win total of ten or more has missed the playoffs.
Last year there were two, Dallas and San Francisco. This year,
your options are so again. History says one of these
six teams is going to miss the playoffs. Baltimore, Buffalo,
Kansas City, Philly, Detroit, San Francisco. I mean, that's a
tough that's a tough discussion right there. But history says
(01:35:46):
one of those teams is going to dramatically underachieve and
miss the playoffs. I think Detroit would be my choice,
but reluctantly because the other five are just so darn
rock solid.
Speaker 3 (01:35:56):
It's really hard to see Kansas City or really missing
the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (01:35:59):
It's really hard to see Baltimore, Buffalo missing the playoffs.
It's really hard to see San Francisco with their schedule
as soft as buttery, Scharman Ultra, you know, toilet paper
missing the playoffs, Detroit loses both coordinators.
Speaker 3 (01:36:12):
You got the Jared Goff narrative.
Speaker 5 (01:36:13):
Variety's a little bit, you know, angry and upset about
the Rams and the Netflix thing.
Speaker 3 (01:36:17):
I think that's a non story.
Speaker 5 (01:36:19):
But history says one of those six teams gonna miss
the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:36:21):
What do we think.
Speaker 4 (01:36:23):
I'm just hung up on buttery, toilet paper, buy it
at costco.
Speaker 3 (01:36:29):
H it's the new age right there. You know, it
works a lot better.
Speaker 4 (01:36:34):
It's tough to see anyone, but I hear you. It's
just schedule based. With the Lions, I think the Lions
are still gonna be good. But if you got to
pick someone and your points to just this gauntlet of
a road schedule, a tough schedule top to bottom, maybe,
I mean, maybe it's not a bad shot in the dark.
Speaker 3 (01:36:50):
I think I'm not huge on the Diners.
Speaker 4 (01:36:54):
Yeah, their schedule is justers.
Speaker 7 (01:37:00):
Also, let's talk about the Niners for a second, just
from a standpoint of how shaky the ground could potentially be.
Jed york Hire, Kyle Shanahan, and John Lynch together as
a mapped pair. They've had nothing but success since they've
been there, and they've done it kind of with a
patch quilt. At quarterback. You know, you had the Garoppolo years.
(01:37:23):
There was some consistency there, but Jimmy got hurt a lot.
There were a lot of quarterbacks who jumped in there,
you know, and then brock Purty emerges. Brock Purdy saved
jobs around there because if you think about what was
supposed to happen with Trey Lance and then what usually
happens when and evaluators and coaches missed that badly on
(01:37:44):
a player, Usually they're all gone. But Brock party saved
the day with the last overall pick in the draft.
So if they get this wrong, if brock Purty doesn't
turn out to make good on this big old contract
they just gave him, and I'm not saying that's gonna happen,
but if they turn in another lackluster season, you could
(01:38:04):
you could definitely make an argument where all of a
sudden there's gonna be some raised eyebrows and some question
marks around the future at head coach in general manager
for the San Francisco forty nine ers.
Speaker 5 (01:38:15):
Yeah, yeah, I think it's the opposite this year, guys,
I really do. I think this is gonna be a
really good year for San Francisco. I honestly, I think
a lot of it too is not only the schedule,
but the way the schedule is is stacked. The beginning
and the end are just cupcakes. The first four weeks
(01:38:35):
and the last four weeks, I think is what will excel.
Like San Francisco is gonna get off to a really
good start. I think I think they're gonna get off
to a really good start. I mean, their first four
games are against Seattle, New Orleans, Arizona, and Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (01:38:50):
Three of them are at or two of them at home.
Speaker 5 (01:38:52):
New Orleans is, I know, tough place to play, but
the Saints might be the worst team in the league
this year.
Speaker 3 (01:38:58):
And then their last four.
Speaker 5 (01:39:00):
Games, like if you want to make a case for
the brock Purty MVP bet.
Speaker 3 (01:39:03):
The reason he didn't win it two years ago.
Speaker 5 (01:39:06):
Was because he got upstaged by the actual MVP the
last second to last week of the year on Monday Night.
This season, his last four games. They get a bye
in Week fourteen, and then the Niners play Tennessee, Indy, Chicago,
Seattle at home down the stretch. Two of those four
games are in primetime Monday night against Indy, Sunday night
(01:39:26):
against Chicago. He's gonna get the primetime stage against easy opponents,
and he's gonna have the spotlight. So I think San
Francisco is ready to roll. Honestly, I'm I'm it's early.
I'm not ready to go there yet, but they are
right now the team I would pick for my Super
Bowl NFC team.
Speaker 3 (01:39:46):
But I can't go there. I can't go there.
Speaker 4 (01:39:49):

just talking about the Niners. Let's talk about them some more.
Some wide receiver news. First one, Brandon Nayuk. He's expected
to start the season on the PUP list, the physically
(01:40:58):
unable to perform list.
Speaker 3 (01:41:00):
I like pup, some go pup.
Speaker 4 (01:41:02):
I'm team pup anyway, either here nor there. What impact
if Ayuk starts on the PUP list do you think
that will have on brock Purty's season numbers? Okay, so
if you look at the season long prop bets for
brock Purty passing yards thirty eight fifty and a half,
(01:41:22):
touchdown passes twenty four and a half. Would you take
the over or under on either? Now here's a little
bit of context. Twenty twenty three he sored over forty
two eighty in passing yards thirty one touchdown passes. Now,
last season, step back missed a couple of games right
and also supporting cast wasn't as good. Ayuk was hurt
(01:41:46):
for a good portion of the season. So Perty through
for thirty eight sixty four. He still hit the over
barely by like a completion. Last season they had twenty
touchdown passes, so he was over and yards under in
touchdown passes. So again we'll start with you Rich for
Perty thirty eight to fifty and a half passing yards,
(01:42:06):
twenty four and a half touchdown passes. Those are his
season long prop bets this season. What do you think?
Speaker 6 (01:42:12):
I'm bullish on brock Pardy.
Speaker 7 (01:42:15):
I think that this could be a big bounce back
season for him for a lot of different reasons. I
really do think that many people forget that this is
in a one man show. No quarterback can do it
by himself. There's obviously better quarterbacks than others. You know,
(01:42:35):
there's the Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrows and you know
from a talent standpoint Josh Allen justin Herbert's of the world,
where it's like, Wow, their talent is obvious. They need
to be paired with talent in order for them to
fully flourish. Now, Patrick Mahomes, it seems like any cast
of characters you put alongside of him, he's going to
(01:42:57):
get the job done with. He's proven that. He also
has one of the best head coaches in the NFL.
That definitely helps. He's offensive minded as a head coach.
That definitely helps. But I digress on other quarterbacks to
focus on Brock perty.
Speaker 6 (01:43:11):
I think he's capable. I think he's smart.
Speaker 7 (01:43:14):
I think even if I starts on the pup list,
you know you have Ricky Piersoll, who's a deep threat.
They obviously brought him in to replace some of the
production they've lost in at the receiver position. So I
think this is going to be a big bounce back
here for Brock. I also think that when you take
(01:43:36):
away the worry of getting a contract done or potentially
what your future looks like with your team or elsewhere
in the NFL, because trust me, he was reading the
newspaper too. He was having those conversations all season long
with his agent too. That can have an effect on
your play. So kind of insummation, I would take overs
(01:43:57):
with Brock here this season, at least in terms of,
you know, the future outlook of this this upcoming NFL
season in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 5 (01:44:05):
Yeah, I think directionally, I like that take. I just
don't like the bet.
Speaker 3 (01:44:11):
And here's why.
Speaker 5 (01:44:14):
Sixty seven percent of quarterbacks went under their passing yard
total last year. Over the last four seasons, almost seventy
percent of quarterbacks stay under their season long passing yard totals.
Speaker 3 (01:44:30):
It is a very hard prop to clear for many reasons.
Speaker 5 (01:44:34):
One game script, the Niners might have double they have
the easy schedule in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:44:40):
There you go. They might have double digit leads in
ten games this year.
Speaker 5 (01:44:44):
In the fourth quarter, it just kills your your potential
for going over props. Secondly, and this is a big
reason why I'm not betting Drew Ler to win the Heisman.
The Niners, I think are gonna have a much better
defense this year.
Speaker 3 (01:44:57):
Salas back.
Speaker 5 (01:44:58):
They drafted Williams the first round. Their defense was terrible
last year. I think they bounced back. The Niners aren't
gonna need to drop thirty points in order to win games.
Their defense is gonna keep them into all of the
games and the games that they're blowing out these bad opponents.
In Brock's not gonna be asked to do much, nor
should he be rely on McCaffrey and Girndo and Jordan
(01:45:20):
James in your really good backfield to get you across
the finish line. So as much as I love directionally
the Niners season, I think Brock's an MVP candidate. I
think San Francisco's probably gonna be the one or the
two seed in the NFC. I don't like betting quarterback
over for season long props because the trend says seven
(01:45:44):
out of ten are staying under over the last four years.
Speaker 4 (01:45:48):
I'm on the both unders for a lot of the
same reasons. If you look at Brock pretty it's funny
like what's what's good in one way can be bad
in another, And a lot of it is the schedule,
like that can be good for Niners to win games,
but it's bad for brock Perty's individual numbers. Like Jared
just said, you know gonna say the same thing is
(01:46:10):
if you're leading and you're just trying to win the game,
you're not trying to pad purty stats or anything like.
You might be running the ball, you might not, might
be trying to milk the clock more than score points.
So that's going to impact his season long passing yards.
Plus he's been banged up, he'll miss a game or two.
He's done that the last two seasons, right, so it's
(01:46:31):
possible he does that again this season where he's out
for you know, a starter two is a big deal
with your season long prop bets and no debo, probably
no I YUK to start the season. So I think
that's gonna hurt his numbers a little bit as well.
So look, you could still have a really good season
and be under thirty eight fifty passing yards and under
(01:46:53):
twenty four and a half touchdown passes. You could still
be good. It's just I take the under on those. Now,
how about another quarterback? So first things first, more wide
receivers in the news, So Xavier Worthy Chiefs wide receiver.
He was on with k Adams and he talked about
Andy Reid. He said, hey, have those ham strings ready?
(01:47:16):
Is what was Reid totals during OTA's Phase one. When
you come back, get your ham strings ready, and so
like kse was twenty seventh last season and passes over
twenty plus yards downfield like they were one of the
worst in the league. But think about the injuries to
their wide receivers. Think about the offensive line that was
(01:47:38):
always like moving around changing. All right, we got this
left tackle, now we got that left tackle. It seems
like they've been stabilized a bit with the draft pick
and some free agency moves. So I think that having
Hollywood Brown back, having Rashie Rice back is a huge deal.
From Mahomes numbers, So look at his season long prop bets.
(01:47:59):
His passing yards number is forty fifty and a half. Right,
it's a little over four thousand yards, touchdown passes twenty
seven and a half. What do you think about those numbers?
Speaker 7 (01:48:11):
See, what's interesting is I'm more comfortable taking the under
with Mahomes on both.
Speaker 6 (01:48:17):
Of those props than I was for Brock. And here's
the reason why.
Speaker 7 (01:48:21):
I understand that seven out of ten unders have hit
typically over the recent swap ears Jared as you referred
back to.
Speaker 6 (01:48:30):
But think about the humans involved.
Speaker 7 (01:48:34):
Brock Purdy got this huge contract, He has a lot
to prove, and then whether it's a good season or
a bad season for the forty nine ers. Good season
probably because Brock's playing great football. Bad season, well, John
Lynch and Kyle Shanahan have to justify the money that
Jed York just spent, so you better believe they're going
to be featuring the pass in San Francisco. Whereas with
(01:48:56):
the Chiefs it's a completely different dynamic. They don't have
to force the football anywhere. With Patrick Mahomes. Everything's approven
quantity there. They just played in a Super Bowl. They lost,
but they've won a few now for the organization, their
jobs are safe. So I'll be comfortable more comfortable taking
(01:49:16):
Patrick Mahomes unders in this debate or conversation because if
they're winning football games by ground and pound and playing
great defense and not pushing the ball downfield like they've
struggled to do, not just last season, but basically since
Tyreek Hills left, then I think they'll do that. They'll
just do business the way business is being done. So
(01:49:38):
I'll take the unders on that one.
Speaker 5 (01:49:39):
Yeah, I mean, I think the same rules apply, you know,
we just talked about it. I mean, I think the
blowout potential, like the Chiefs don't blow teams out but
we say that and latch they'll have like four blowouts
this year. But the yeah, they'll blow out like the
first Well watch them drop fifty week one and blow
out everyone. There are fewer outs on a like you
(01:50:00):
just you need more things to go right. There's more
things that can that can help you with an under,
like we just talked about it with the Baseball props right,
like the pitchers today, like we just we we think
that some of the managers are gonna be more conservative
with with these guys going into the break. So that's
an extra out that we already can put on the unders.
Speaker 3 (01:50:21):
The same argument with Mahomes.
Speaker 5 (01:50:23):
I think I think the Chiefs defense is better than
San Francisco's, and I think they're gonna be in a
lot a lot of low scoring games, a lot of
high leverage games too, which when you're in a high
leverage game, you could.
Speaker 3 (01:50:32):
Care less how you win, just win. You know, it
doesn't matter.
Speaker 5 (01:50:36):
If Mahomes score or throws for four hundred or for forty.
Did they win the game? Yes, it's a win. If
you are looking to bet overs, I know people love
betting overs, Like.
Speaker 3 (01:50:46):
Jared, You're such a grinch. All you want to do
is bet under under under.
Speaker 5 (01:50:49):
There is a season long category with quarterbacks that I
would recommend betting the over in. It's the rushing yards
props of all of the categories, and Connor Allen does
a great job of this works for a fantasy football
you know entity that does a lot of the tracking
for the season long stuff, and he has a thread
on this which details it fantastically. I totally recommend you
(01:51:10):
following him. He's a great follow out. Of all the
categories he tracked twenty nine season long categories that he tracked.
The only category that has multi year profit on overs
is quarterback rushing yards at about fifty eight percent. So
if you want to bet over on a quarterback, look
to the rushing yards category, right, A little bit of
(01:51:30):
a contrarian view, Not the passing yards for the quarterback,
the rushing yards. Those tend to be the most mispriced
where you get upside to the over. So maybe Patrick
Mahomes rushing yards season long. I'm interested in betting it over,
but passing no.
Speaker 3 (01:51:48):
It's funny.
Speaker 4 (01:51:49):
I don't know what it is with me and my
brother Rich Hornberger, We just our brains just work completely
differently on a lot not everything, but the last you know,
those like they'll put a picture in front of your
face and they're like, Okay, is that a pair.
Speaker 6 (01:52:04):
Like the test? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:52:06):
Or is it a ruler like Rich will say ruler.
I'll say it's clearly a pair. That's definitely frue.
Speaker 3 (01:52:12):
I know, is the sky?
Speaker 6 (01:52:14):
Can we get you two to.
Speaker 3 (01:52:15):
Agree on the edit?
Speaker 4 (01:52:16):
I'm on both overs for Mahomes, like I'm on the
unders for Bertie. I'm on the overs for Mahomes. And listen,
these both of them might split, might go over in
one category under in the other.
Speaker 3 (01:52:27):
So we'll see how it works.
Speaker 4 (01:52:28):
But I look at Mahomes and listen real fast, not
every season. They don't work like building blocks, you know,
So it's dangerous to do that where you're like, okay,
let's start with this fundamentally, Like Mahomes threw last year
for thirty eight twenty eight, just a little over four
thousand yards, so let's start with that and then look
(01:52:48):
at what's different. Well, he's not guaranteed to start with that, right, Like,
he could get hurt. There are any number of things
that could change like that baseline number. But it's although
it's day just to do that. Sometimes fundamentally, it can
make sense where I look at the Chiefs, They're still
gonna have a good defense. What's the biggest difference with them?
(01:53:09):
I think it's wide receiver health. Like when you have
Rashie Rice play three games.
Speaker 3 (01:53:15):
And that's it.
Speaker 4 (01:53:15):
He was putting up huge numbers, huge numbers first three
weeks and he's supposed to be back healthy. That's a
huge deal to have Hollywood Brown, Rashie Rice and Xavier
Worthy without this like exceptional running game and great running back.
Isaiah Pacheco came back to Earth a little bit due
to the injuries, and he didn't have the same juice
(01:53:37):
once he was back. So I think Mahomes I think
he's going over four thousand yards passing this season. That's
how I see it. I mean two years ago he
was at forty one, eighty three and twenty seven touchdown passes,
losing the Super Bowl, being highly doubted. I think there's
more than enough extra motivation for Mahomes. I like both
(01:53:58):
of his overs. I do I think that. I think
the offense is going to be much better, and I
can't tell you there is no way if they have
better wide receiver health, they're twenty seventh in completions twenty
plus yards down the field. There's zero chance that's the
case if they have better health, and I think they will,
so I'll take his overs there real fast. Before we
(01:54:21):
moved along, how about this, I wanted to mention the good,
the bad, and the ugly from yesterday. In particular, how
about the good cal Roley. Two more home runs for
the big dumper, thirty eighth on the season is insanity.
What a season this guy is having. The bad would
be Caitlin Clark, at least for now, still ice cold
(01:54:42):
from three. Listen to this, four for four for thirty
five in the last five games. That's the worst. It's
eleven percent. That's the worst five game span in WNBA history.
Now the fine print is minimum thirty five three point attempts.
How many players are even three point shoot? He might not,
you know, hoist up thirty five and five games, but
(01:55:04):
still ice cold, I think, real fast, like some of
those misses, or when she was still hurt dealing with
the groin injury. So she hasn't forgotten how to shoot,
but in a bad stretch right now. And the ugly,
I would say is Paul Skeins he pitched well again
and doesn't earn a win. This dude's numbers since June first,
he's had eight starts. He has zero wins. His era
(01:55:26):
is one seventy seven. He has zero wins in those
eight starts. Oh my god, it's a baseball crime what
Pittsburgh has done, not surrounding him by talent. But that's
what I say, quickly, is the good, the bad, new.
You gotta have it, need to sound it.
Speaker 3 (01:55:42):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:55:44):
Also, you know what you gotta have, You gotta have
a break, like Chris just said.
Speaker 3 (01:55:49):
Got a break.
Speaker 4 (01:55:51):
All right, We've got Rich hon Berger, Penn State All American,

Hosch Manzada Plexico, Buris up on game less than ten

They've got you covered. An we got some picks to make.
(01:57:03):
Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (01:57:07):
Rapid fire.
Speaker 3 (01:57:09):
All right, Jared, we start with you. Three picks for us.
Speaker 1 (01:57:12):
What do you get?
Speaker 5 (01:57:12):
Well, yeah, yesterday the Reds lost to the Rockies. The
Rockies won a baseball game yesterday. And I know that
because I watched the game, because I bet the Reds,
and I was very upset that they lost the game
to the lowly Rockies. So we're gonna bounce back today
with the Reds on the run line. And again, this
is not like the sexiest pitching matchup in the world,
Brady Singer against some guy named Blaylock for Colorado.
Speaker 3 (01:57:34):
But I'll bet on the bounce back.
Speaker 4 (01:57:37):
I don't know why I got tickled me a guy
named Alex.
Speaker 5 (01:57:42):
It's not it's not a great pitching It's never a
great pitching matchup for the Rockies.
Speaker 3 (01:57:45):
For the Reds, it's average with Brady Singer.
Speaker 5 (01:57:47):
But I think Reds bounce back today and they get
a nice dub and I'll go under in the first
five under four runs in the first five.
Speaker 3 (01:57:57):
Between the Red Sox and the Rays.
Speaker 5 (01:58:00):
I love this pitching match probably my favorite pitching matchup
on the board today. Nurphy's a little pricey, so we'll
go under in the first five and make sure you
get that four.
Speaker 3 (01:58:07):
Three and a half still good.
Speaker 5 (01:58:08):
You gotta find that four, and there are plenty of
fours out there, Baz Crochet. Great pitching matchup, fantastic pitching
matchup today between the Rays and the Rockies. And finally,
what's one more? I've got so many on my card today.
A right, I'll give you Brewers. I'll give you Brewers
minus one and a half. We'll go run line Brewers
minus one and a half. Woodrif on the mountain today
again against some guy named Oga Sawara for Washington. So
(01:58:31):
not exactly the sexiest pitching matchup for the Nats. So
we'll lean on Brandon Woodrift to have a good game.
So Brewers run line Red's run line minus one and
a half on both Tampa Bay Boston under four runs
in the first five.
Speaker 7 (01:58:45):
All right, all baseball for me today. Give me the
Cubbies getting spotted a run.
Speaker 6 (01:58:50):
And a half on the run line in New York.
Speaker 7 (01:58:52):
Yankees starter Max Freed got knocked around a little bit
in his last start against the Mets. Cups have one
of the stronger offenses in MLB. Give me the Giants
getting spotted a run and a half as well against
the Dodgers today. Otani on the mount basically means a bullpen.
Speaker 6 (01:59:09):
Day for the Dodgers. They're continuing the show.
Speaker 7 (01:59:12):
Hey back into his role as a starting pitcher, and
I'll take the over seven and a half runs Philly's
Padres game today. I've watched a lot of battles between
these National League rivals. The bats show up when the
finest city hosts the boys from the City of Brotherly Love.
Speaker 4 (01:59:29):
Okay, So I do love some in game summer league betting,
but that does be no good for rapid fire. We
can't do in game betting during There's what I'm gonna do.
I'm going to use a team for a baseline leg
on a two leg parlay. Okay, I'm using it at
(01:59:49):
the base of all three of my selections here, so
this can go great and I spell like a rose,
this could go horribly bad.
Speaker 3 (01:59:57):
That's right, he's bold.
Speaker 4 (01:59:59):
What am I honing in the consistent legue is the
New Yorki Kay ten straight games, scoring five plus runs.
They're going up against Matthew Boyd. Just a good picture
for the Cubs. Been tremendous at home, respectable on the
road as well. I'm gonna take the Yankees team total
over two and a half runs, all right, it's minus
(02:00:20):
three fifty. That's just the baseline my two leg parlay.
I'm gonna match that one with the Orioles to win
combine that's plus one ten. I'm gonna take that also
with the Brewers to win combine both legs minus won
twenty one. And finally, I'm gonna take Manny Machada, who
has been red hot, your boy Machado over there Rich
in San Diego.
Speaker 3 (02:00:40):
He's been hot.
Speaker 4 (02:00:41):
I'm gonna take them to get at least one hit today.
Combined with the Yankees, that's minus one twenty one, so
all respectable juice gotta have the Yankees score three runs
or I'm over three. Enjoy Wimbledon and everything else you
got going on today.
Speaker 3 (02:00:58):
We'll catch you soon.
