Speaker 1 (00:01):
Dah, here we go. There we go.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Good evening, good afternoon, good night, good morning. Wherever you're
hanging out with The Plank Show here on Fox Sports Radio,
we are.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Man.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
I've had a day, people, I've had a day, and
my quick little pre show nap was one of those.
And again some would say bragging about your nap is
not a good way to start the show, but it's
got to tell you, guys, it was one of the
naps where when you woke up from it, you thought
(00:35):
you missed the show.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
I welcome in pure panic. It's like, ah ah, yeah,
the line on your face.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
You didn't know what county you were in, been drinking,
so it was I'm good man, I'm ready to go tonight.
We have so many things to get to. We are
exactly one week away from sitting here on The Plank
Show on Fox Sports Radio next Friday night and taking
your phone calls where you grench and moan about a
Hall of Fame game. Actually, you know what, that'll probably
(01:02):
start Thursday night with Jason and Mike. Because there is
no tradition zero in sports like the way you wait
so long. The NFL and college football's off season is
the longest off season in all of sports. Now, kudos
to the NFL and kudos to college football for being
(01:24):
able to somehow, some way make their off seasons in
some way, shape or form entertaining. And for those of
us are fans of bad football teams, maybe better than
the actual regular season itself, they are I'm looking forward
to when my team can acquire someone that gets me
excited about the season since we suck. But there is
(01:47):
no time on or tradition better than waiting these this
entire offseason. Even though we have the draft, we have
free agency, you know, free agency even hits in college
football now.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Even though you'll always have.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
A storyline or two or ten that has everyone a
flutter about something, it's a long off season.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
It's a long haul.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
I mean, we have a promo that makes fun of me,
you know on Fox Sports Radio, guys that are just
so Thursday for a game or anything, but that tradition
about one play or two plays into the All Star
excuse me, Hall of Fame game on Thursday night, people
start crnching and complaining, what is this?
Speaker 1 (02:28):
What am I having to watch?
Speaker 3 (02:29):
This is?
Speaker 1 (02:31):
This is what I've been waiting for.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
It's like calm down. It's a Hall of Fame game,
you know. I don't think I was trying to think
about this yesterday. Since the Hall of Fame game got
canceled whenever they melted the field, they've done a smart
thing and moving it to Thursday nights. And again it's
part of it's really not even about football in the
Hall of Fame game, right, It's more about just the
(02:54):
Hall of Fame inductions and the whole weekend, and now
that it's been moved to Thursday night kind of kicks
the week at all. But I don't know. I don't
know since Josh Jacob's played in the first quarter for
the Raiders and everyone was losing their mind. I don't
know if we've seen starters in this thing in the
better part of the last.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Four to five years.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
It's just it's kind of like an opportunity for teams
like the Chargers and Lions to get into practice a
little bit early and play a bunch of guys who
will probably be asking for your ID in a couple
of weeks when you go to the club.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
I mean, it's just the reality of it. But you
know what it is. It's football.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
It's football, and it's between two teams that have super
Bowl expectations amongst their fan basis. Yeah, it sounds weird, right,
but trust me, I'm not going to do a whole
segment or a whole show on Ladies and gentleman buckle up,
because next week, whenever we're sitting here next Friday night,
(03:57):
on the show that Chargers Lions matchup, it's gonna be
a super Bowl preview.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
But isn't it weird to.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Think about where both of those teams are and historically
where they are at this point of the season.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
And by at this point of the season, I mean.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
At least for Lions fans, I mean the better part
of your franchise's entire existence. You're already defeated. You're done,
You're out. It's like, oh, we're out. It's this is
no good. Chargers fans, always competitive but never able to
take that next step super Bowl appearance, got humiliated and
(04:32):
haven't really come too terribly close to get back since.
But a new coach now his second year, in a
new attitude, a rejuvenated star young quarterback with a few
new weapons around him. The hopium is high in both
Los Angeles and Detroit, so I'm excited that this weekend
(04:52):
becomes that first weekend, our last weekend where we don't have.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Football to break down for quite a while.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
I think someone put up a note that this will
be the this will be the last week that we
won't have a football game on a Thursday until like January,
which is pretty awesome.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
But I just want to go ahead and remind everyone.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
We're all gonna gritcha moon about it next week about
midw you know what, I'll give everyone a little bit
of grace in this era of social media about midway
through the first quarter.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
That'll be with people like, what is this garbage? Where's
so and so? Why is an ex playing? It's awful.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
I waited for this. And in fairness, we might want
to embrace the preseason, or at my man LARADYE. Spaniel
would say, the free season. We might want to embrace
it as much as we can over the next few
years because and feel how you want about the preseason
for the National Football League. Have your takes, have your opinions.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
It's fine.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
I'm not here to tell you what to think and
what not to think. But we have labor peace for
now till twenty thirty or that area. But when the
players get their next opportunity, there's a lot of buzz
that they're going to try to get this thing down
to one preseason game, if even that. So I like
(06:14):
the preseason. I'm a fan of it. It gets me
an opertunit. I'm a big college football fan. So there's
a lot of guys that were undrafted free agents that
you get to watch, maybe a lot of dudes that
might be their last shot to make a team. Might
be somebody that I don't know, you kind of fall
in love with. I think every single year, Like I said,
I'm a Raiders fan. So every year there's a guy
that didn't necessarily shine either in drafts, pundit's eyes, or
(06:38):
even in other team's eyes, and you pick them up
as an undrafted free agent or a seventh round and
you fall in love with them. Jalen Rashard is a
great example for the Raiders. For so many years as
an undrafted free agent, he'd become a valuable third down back,
had many big plays for you fall in love with
guys like this during the preseason quarterback battles, I mean
I again, Raiders, Derek Carr won the Raiders job his
(07:00):
rookie year in the fourth and final preseason game that
we don't even play anymore.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
I mean Russell.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Wilson, go back to when he won the Seahawks job,
maybe a little bit before that. Even whatever he won
the Seahawks job, he did in the preseason with a
way that he played. Now, I think it's been few
and far between the moments that we've had where a
guy in the preseason has won the job here recently.
But you tell me you're not gonna watch a Browns
game to see how that plays out this year. But
(07:28):
embrace it, because, my friends, I think we are headed
towards the end of the exhibition slash preseason because it
doesn't appear the players want it. The owners want it
because it's another event that they can charge tickets for him.
But I don't think the players won in the long run.
And you know what, it's so funny, just a quick
(07:50):
thought on the labor strive.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Everyone gets so mad at the players.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Everyone, Oh, they take they do this, they take less
money because well, because they don't want to practice out
because they don't want their No one has idea what
an NFL season does on your body. No clue unless
you are somebody in the media like everybuddy, the rich
Ornberger's of the world and the Jeff Schwartz of the
world that went through it, and whenever they're like, oh,
these players given up so much just to have less practice,
(08:15):
and yeah, yeah, absolutely, because they want their families, they
want their bodies, they want to be able to have
a life after football, they want healthcare.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
After football, everyone loses their mind.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
So I'll be one of those people that when the
preseason goes away in a couple of years, I'll be
sad about it. But if it means and if it
makes for a better regular season, if it means I
get I don't know, maybe one more regular season game,
I'll take it. Because going back full circle to the
original point, you'all gonna be mad as hell after the
(08:48):
first quarter of this game next Thursday night that you've
waited and waited and waited for because ain't nobody gonna play. Though,
will have football in July, and I like that a lot. Now,
Tonight's Graham will not be centered on the preseason, No,
not at all. There's there's a lot of different storylines though.
We need to get to from camp. So as an
NFL life are in die Hard. We've got two separate
(09:12):
NFL topics that we're going to tackle tonight at eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine ninety
six sixty three, six nights. So we want to get
in early and get in line. You don't care what
I have to lay out here. You got your own
agenda tonight. I'm fine with that at eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox. But I've done a I've done
(09:32):
a little bit of work on some potential offseason overreactions.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
There were a couple of.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Things in my different readings and listening different shows, working
different shows that as I've listened to Fox Sports Radio
and all my NFL podcasts, my College football podcast, there's
a lot of things that you can overreact to. So
I lay down a list, kind of put it through
a couple of different levels, and I'll post.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
I'll pose it to you.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Tonight of five NFL overreactions that I've taken away from
the early days of training camp. And I guess maybe
you add early days of training camp into an entire
off season and obsessing and living the NFL every minute
of every day for some reason. This week, I've got
(10:21):
six to ten storylines that I think will take center
stage during training camp. Cleveland Browns fans have the intent
is up because we're going to talk a lot about you.
So that's coming up tonight on a busy football night.
Speaking of football, the Big Ten at the ACC took
center stage this week. I've got a recap from Big
Ten media days in Las Vegas, where let me go
ahead and spoil a little bit of it for you.
(10:42):
The Big Ten is absolutely obsessed with the SEC. I
don't think I've ever seen anything like it. The SEC
spent their media days, you know, talking more about themselves,
which is fine.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Boy.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
The Big Ten spent their entire Meetia days complaining about
the SEC.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Was fascinating and karent signetty.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
I think I don't think I've ever seen anyone who
went from Wow, look at this guy, look at him
taking on all challengers, mister google me up, mister kinda,
you know who I am. And now he's like sitting
there flexing because they're not gonna play Virginia. You are
an un serious football program if you're dropping Virginia from
(11:24):
your schedule. And don't get at me with well, the hey,
the SEC plays FCS teams. Yeah, and they all play
a power for opponent too. Indiana, a team that's gonna
be battling for the national championship in Texas playing Ohio State.
A team that's gonna be battling for the national championship
is playing Michigan in addition to their eight conference games.
(11:46):
So get miss me with that. We'll talk about it
later on in the program Major League Baseball. We are
inching towards the trade deadline next Thursday. The Yankees making
move tonight. I don't know how much of a difference
maker it's gonna be, but they have been abysmal defensively
at third base. So you take what you can get
(12:07):
in a market that looks like it's going to be
extremely expensive if you want to make a big splash,
and you bring a guy like Ryan mcmahonon who stabilizes
things at third base for you, at least offensively. We'll
talk about the trade deadline and what we can expect,
and then tonight history kind of history. Baas beat the
rock Astros fifteen to three. Nick Kurtz six hits, four
(12:31):
home runs, nineteen total bases, six ver six with four bombs,
score six runs, drives in eight. We'll hear all the highlights.
I mean, you just you don't get moments like this.
I was, well, maybe I should take a moment to
introduce the crew. Brie is out again tonight. She hates
the show. Brandon Deutsch's and and Brandon, by the way,
is a Diehart Numbers guy to help us out with everything.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Good morning, Brandon, how are you? Bud? I'm doing great,
I say, good morning.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
It's only good morning in my time zone, and on
East coast it's good evening. Enjoy the night life on
the West Coast. I was in Monday with Mike Harmon
and he kept talking about the times for the show.
I'm like, my gosh, you're saying a Pacific time.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
And it's beautiful. He's like eleven P three Wait, well
would that be one P to two A?
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Like opeta two A doesn't sound bad at all, But
you go one to four A you talk about in
the Central time zone or two to five A in
Eastern time zone.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
It's like, what is this?
Speaker 3 (13:24):
What is this?
Speaker 1 (13:25):
But impressive night tonight? Was it not from our boy
Nick Hurtz? That was impressive?
Speaker 4 (13:31):
Oh yeah, I mean that was an all time performance.
You think about everything that we've seen in recent memory,
not just in baseball but in all of sports. I
know the last one too was a position player was
pitching for the Astro. So a lot of people are like, oh,
it doesn't count, but still, I mean six for six,
the double off the wall would have been you know,
that could have been a fifth home run.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
It goes out in a few ballparks, and I thought
it was a fifth home run. I'm not gonna lie.
Yeah me too, So let me see here. Who was
the last? I'm going through the and who knows.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Maybe the uh, maybe the world of the AIO review
is not very good, but I was trying to roll
through the four home runs area. A look at this
from twenty seventeen from MLB dot com. All four homer
games in Major League Baseball history. Oh, actually this goes
back to because Suarez had one on April twenty sixth
(14:22):
of this year. Wow, I didn't realize it was that recent.
I for some reason, can only remember the Mark Witten game.
It's like, hey, who had a four homer game? Like
I think Mark Witten did for the Cardinals at one point. Yeah,
September seventh of nineteen ninety three. You're welcome you're welcome.
That's for some reason is just stuck in my head.
And it was the second game of a double header.
(14:45):
Twelve runs batted in in that game from Mark Winten.
But in fairness, you know, Brandon, we could talk about
it because it is a rarity. It's just even though
it happened earlier this year, it's something that just doesn't happen.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Very often in Major League Baseball.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
At the game, I mean, it's hilarious because I already
forgot about the u hen Yo Suarez for home run. Yeah,
I didn't even think it happened. Maybe that's just because
the Diamondbacks are a few games under five hundred, but
I guess the Athletics, I mean they're what twenty games
under five hundred. And I mean, this guy, since he
came up to the big leagues, he is over a
you know, one point zero four to four ops twenty
home runs. I believe only you know overall is Ops
(15:23):
is second to Aaron Judge. Since he's entered the big leagues,
and if we go the last two months, I think
he has him in home runs. Now, I'd have to
double check that in fact check that, but I mean,
the kid's unreal, And of course you know MLB pitchers
will adjust a little bit to him, as you know,
you see James Wood on the Nationals the last month
I think is two out of his last forty or
(15:43):
something like that. Like they'll adjust, but I mean, it's
still special what he's doing.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
You know, it is kind of.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Crazy how rare this feed is, and then how when
it happens, it kind of happens in bunches, because as
we mentioned with second time, it's happened this year, Suarez
did it back on April twenty sixth. Prior to that,
no one had done it since twenty seventeen, and in
twenty seventeen when JD. Martinez did it for the d Backs.
(16:13):
Scooter get It, a twenty seven year old for the
Reds did it as well to in twenty seventeen. No
one prior to that had hit two homers in a
game since prior to that, just twenty twelve. Josh Hamilton
did it for the Rangers in twelve, and then in
two thousand and three it had Carlos Delgado do it.
(16:34):
Sean Green did it in two thousand and two, as
did Mike Cameron. So you've had three times where it
happened twice in a season, but prior to Mike Cameron
for the Mariners in two the last time you had
the four homers in the game happened Mark Quinton in
nineteen ninety three. So a rarity, a rarity in Major
League baseball. And what was the nickname that Dallas Braden
(16:57):
had for him, The Big Amish?
Speaker 1 (16:59):
Yeah, the Big Amish.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
I believe it's because he's from near an Amish community
in Pennsylvania.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
It's so, but he's not Amish. Okay, like we've that's
going to be a Hall of Fame. That's going to
be a very short list. Congratulations to Nick Kurtzby in
the Amish Hall of Fame after one game. But a's
one cool mom in Major League Baseball at the highlights
coming up here in just a bit, And good, good
evening to Mark Ramsey running the show. Even though is
(17:26):
this two shows in a row that Breese missed on
as Mark slacker.
Speaker 5 (17:31):
She's as slacker as they say, unbelievable. Yeah, the future
because wait or what she here Friday and then out
on Saturday. I forgot because I did this Saturday night
show too.
Speaker 6 (17:42):
She was out on Friday, and yeah, she was out
the whole weekend.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Yeah, Brie, Like, what are we doing? What are you doing? Slacking? Hey,
big week for your bears.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
A lot of positive stuff out of camp for you, Mark,
you gotta be feeling pretty good.
Speaker 6 (17:58):
I guess there's some positive things.
Speaker 7 (18:00):
And I saw a picture of a weird thing of
the quarterback with painted fingers. So I'll just worry about
the football now, and I'll just not worry about the
painted fingers.
Speaker 6 (18:12):
I'll just try to carry on with that.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Well that is, that's your boy.
Speaker 6 (18:16):
It's a slight distraction. But just worry about the football.
Just worry about the football.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
I say it a lot on the show. People like, yeah,
we get a plank. He covered Jalen Hurt. She covered
Caleb Williams, You covered Baker Mayfield. Caleb Williams was such
a weird cover because we weren't allowed to talk to him.
Lincoln Riley didn't let you talk to freshmen. And then
when you finally had a chance to talk to him, like,
hey man, this guy is pretty good.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
I like him.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
I wish we could talk to more. And then he
transferred and so that's why how to despise him? But
you want to talk about a unique individual. Caleb Williams,
unique dude, unique guy, extremely talented. We'll see if Ben
Johnson can unlock that coach.
Speaker 6 (18:52):
All right, me, real quick, go ahead idea of it.
Speaker 7 (18:56):
It just appears by some of the talk that he's
not picking up all of the football stuff. So I
guess that's from a you know none. I mean, I
like football, but I don't know any of it. I just,
you know't hear about.
Speaker 6 (19:09):
I guess it's difficult to pick up something new.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
I guess, yeah, exactly. That's different. It's a different world.
It's a different world for him.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
And think about it, he's had one offensive system in
his three years that he was in college. He's had
you know, one system since he basically got to the NFL,
and from everything we've seen, he either a rebelled against
that system or beat itn't feel like that he had
the support that he needed right in an offensive corner
(19:39):
that he claimed didn't watch film with him or anything
like that. It'll take time. I think he's gonna be okay.
I I do think the Bears are gonna be good.
They're gonna be I think they're gonna be fun this year.
In fact, one of those overreactions that I want to
get to was that all four teams from the NFC
North make the playoffs this year. Maybe about that one
for a moment, it's it's possible, all right, eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine, nine,
(20:01):
six six three six. Now, we've got a busy show
coming up tonight. Brandon is in for Brie. That's Mark Ramsey.
I'm Chris Plank. When we come back, I jotted down
six to eight storylines that have really caught my eye
through the early days of NFL training camp. Let's get
after it on a busy Friday night right here on
Fox Sports Radio. All right, welcome back to the show
(20:28):
here on Fox Sports Radio eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox. Get to your calls, coming up here in
just a bit. Brandon Deutsch is in tonight for Brie.
Mark Ramsey running the show as always, And I've carved
out some time in hour number two to talk about
the week that was in Legends Lost. We lost the
(20:51):
Holkster on Thursday, we lost Ozzy Osbourne earlier this week.
The Malcolm Jamal Warner story is a terrible story man.
And again, these are all people that are near and
dear to gen X's heart. Our buddy Craig Keller had
tweeted in and said, don't forget about Chuck MANGI own, yeah.
I mean that again, it's like one song for me.
(21:13):
I'm sure there's a massive catalog, but it's one that sticks.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
I saw it.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Speaking of that, I saw a note today that Phil
Collins is in hospice right now. Oh my gosh, we
lose Phil Genesis. I mean, what a terrible stretch. So
I think it was jen Xers. Those are three to
four guys who were in one particularly in the Holkster
that was integral to our childhoods. But I understand it's
(21:38):
a complicated legacy with Hulk, so we'll dive into it
now or two.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
But I just can I can separate those things. It's funny.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
There's certain people in life where bad things happen and
they do bad things, and everyone's just like, oh, forget
about that, they've passed away. Forget about it and honor them,
and that's I'm with you. And then there's other people
where other kind of categories of people to where a
bad thing has been said or done by somebody in
(22:07):
their life and like, oh, I'll never forgive them for that.
He's like, okay, I just I don't understand where that
line is and if it's a racist trade, and okay,
that's fine.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
I'm not here to judge.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
But there's certain people that bad things have happened and
you're just like, oh no, wait, we're not gonna talk
about that now, it's time to remember. And there's others
where you're like, oh no, I don't care. I don't
care either. They're dead, gud bye. So I've been able
to separate the Terry Belea from hul Cogan because hull
(22:39):
Cogan was my guy. I mean, I wanted to eat
my vitamins, I wanted to drink my milk. I wanted
to save my prayers, and I wanted to be a
whole commania. I can have the twenty what was it,
the twenty four inch pythons I wanted to do Now,
I don't never came close to I think the closest
I got it might have got like eight.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
But he was the man.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
He was the man for those of us in a
different time whenever we didn't immediately go to social media
to complain about Saturday Night's main event. As soon as
it was over, that sucked. That's terrible's where's the storyline development?
The entering action is awful. Where's the character development? That's
what wrestling is now everyone complaining about it, But in
(23:17):
my time, you didn't do that. You just watched and
you loved it. And even though the Hogan Andre match
is a boring match, boy got me going. By the way,
does this fall on deaf ears for you, Brandon, for
you Mark, either one of you guys wrestling fans from
back in the day or even now where this resonates
with you are now?
Speaker 1 (23:35):
I am not. I'd be the last person to ask fair. Mark.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
You and I are kind of cut from the same cloth.
As far as when we grew up, was it was
it wrestling on in your house or not?
Speaker 7 (23:45):
I watched the Hulkster when none and the good guy
phase and the bad guy face.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Now, I gotta tell you something. The good guy phase
was that a phase in my life where I needed it? Right?
Speaker 1 (23:58):
It's like there I am. I'm like eight nineteen years old.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
The bad guy face was at a phase in my
life from twenty two to twenty three years Old'm like, yeah, Hollywood,
nWo take.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
It all over is great.
Speaker 7 (24:09):
Yeah, the bad guy face just reminded me that, you know,
everything's Hollywood is all make believe in their characters, and
you got to play a character to change it up.
Because if he's going to be good for so long,
he found once I heard the interviews you know about him,
that he had to turn it so he can continue
(24:30):
his career as the bad guy. And then the bad
guy somehow always comes back to be a good guy.
So it was that TV bad guy character arc that
I had to get used to with all of entertainment,
just you know, just to watch how that's movies and
TV things work.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
It was, it was one of It was one of
the greatest career arcs that you could ever imagine where
you went. I know this is not proper English, but
you went from the goodest good guys. You were the
baby baby face heels big wrestling terms that we use,
and he was it.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
He was over, oh v e er over. That means you.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
The crowd loved you and they were they were infatuated
with you. I don't know if anyone ever sold more
merchandise than.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
The Holkster, did.
Speaker 7 (25:17):
I mean, I watched the TV show, so you know
I was indeed, Oh yeah, everybody watched the TV to
see his kids and just the whole thing.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Yeah, oh the TV show was amazing.
Speaker 7 (25:25):
Just his daughter, whatever happened to her singing career, and
the son, and that's the whole I mean, he has
a wife and just that whole paragraph unbelievable.
Speaker 8 (25:36):
You know.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
That's that's two guys.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
And then of course when he was the baddest of
bad guys, he sold all the merchandise too. But in
two guys that we lost and Asie and hoped this
this week, it's two guys that really opened up their
lives to us in a way that not many people
had or did.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
You know?
Speaker 2 (25:54):
It was crazy to think that the Osbourne's was twenty
three years ago. And the thing I remember the most
about the show is I can never understand a word
that he ever said. But it was Ozzy Osborne in
a way that no one ever saw him before. I
as a kid, wasn't allowed to listen to Ozzy Osborne titles.
By the way, one other note we should mention. I
(26:15):
brought up that Phil Collins is in hospice. But I
know cup fans, we're all and I say we am
you're all a little bit nervous and worried. I grew
up a true, true genexa right last key kid parents
got a divorce and we watched the Cubs when we
got home because they were on WGN, and everybody knew
who Ryan Sandberg is and what And it looks like
(26:37):
he's battling too right now. You've noticed in a lot
of things that have happened this week, you've seen guys
paying kind of mini tributes to Ryan Sandberg. So he's
been he's been battling cancer, and there's some that are
concerned that again he might also be somebody that's that's
fighting for his life right now.
Speaker 7 (26:57):
So ke I knew about him, but though it was
getting closer or these things are getting strange now.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
But you know what, He's a battler. So I'll never
give up on Rhino.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
But keep Ryan Sandberg in your thoughts tonight, all right,
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fix. Let me do
a little bit of work here before we get to
the phones. I don't want to cut anyone short, and
we only got a couple of minutes left in this segment.
Throughout the evening, I want to sprinkle in some of
the major storylines of NFL training camp, and I've already
decided there is there is one that I am over
(27:29):
in a different way ov Aer finished done, and that
is the Browns quarterback battle. Here's one reason I don't
care about your daily stats.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Whomever is doing that.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Please stop, because it's the easiest thing to misconstrue. And
I know we've got we got the Colin Coward promo
where I can tell from practices and to a certain extent,
I guess maybe you're right. But guys, we're not too
far removed from Patrick Mahone being one of the worst
camp quarterbacks we have ever seen during his first year
(28:04):
as the starter with the Kansas City Chiefs. In fact,
every single time and I know it's only one example,
but every single time that we get into oh my gosh,
this guy's looking terrible in camp. This guy's looking great
in camp. I go back to a headline story from
August first of twenty eighteen. New Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes
(28:27):
has seven interceptions in six practices.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
Yeah, I think things worked out okay for him. So
do not get.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Enamored with stats, please, I beg of thee stop posting them.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Because it's pointless.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Aaron Rodgers threw an interception on either his first or
second pass at camp and everyone was freaking out. I
know that this is a hard thing to do, but
listen to the former players when they talk. Listen to
Rich Orenberger, Listen to Jeff Schwartz, listen to LeVar Arrington.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
When they talk. It's like, hey, calm down, these things
are irrelevant. Now.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
If it continues into the season, then you got an issue.
If they hear that there's people that are questioning things
in the locker room, then you got an issue. But
this whole idea that the Browns quarterback job is going
to be one based on practice stats that are out
there on social media, just stop. I think I think
that in Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dylan Gabriel, and maybe
(29:26):
even to a lesser extent, should or Sanders, I think
there's a chance that we do see all of them
this week.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
Now.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
Mary Kay Cabot had an interesting take. I think this
was from late last week where in her mind on
the second Mary Kay, in her mind, if you're talking
about a rookie quarterback that could be battling for reps
the job, it's not the do that everyone's talking about
(29:54):
that's going to end up seeing time.
Speaker 9 (29:56):
If there were a rookie quarterback that we're going to
start some games this year, and I would think that
Dylan would get that nod ahead of Shador Sanders. It's
going to depend on how quickly Shador can come up
the learning curve and learning terminology and all the things
that he has to learn to get out there and
execute the offense before the stamp. But as it stands
(30:18):
right now, I would say that Dylan would be closer
to winning the starting job than Shador.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
I will say the Browns just have a way of
making their fan base miserable from their goofy staged guy
falling off the dock in the helmet reveal.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
I mean, let's just reveal the help the helmet.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
The funny thing is how quickly it got spotted as
a fake, like just what are you doing? EVERGT got
a laugh on it and we found it was fake,
and like, that's just dumb. I don't even remember what
the helmet looked like because they got so mad over
that dope falling off the deck.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
But you know, it's.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
It's just an out and out frustrating time. Because there
is a roster that has talent. There are guys like
Miles Garrett. Everyone would have want Miles Garrett on their team.
You got some playmakers, and yet we're looking at a
battle between Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dylan Gabrielle, and shad
Or Sanders.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
And then it led.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
I mean, Colin had I don't know if you guys
want to call it the report. He said, it's not
a report, but like the worst kept secret, that the
Browns want arch Manning and the Haslms are involved, and
that Nick Saban is going to coach the Browns next year,
which again, Nick Saban couldn't get arch Manning to go
to Alabama and Tennessee where the Haslms have deep pockets.
(31:41):
Couldn't get it to Tennessee, but I guess it would
work in Cleveland. Bottom line, More than anything else, to me,
this is just a disaster waiting to happen. I want
to see Cleveland be good.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
Men.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
We tell you why. I want to see Cleveland be
good because I do respect their fan base. I do.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Even though you guys dumped all over Baker Mayfield, There's
a part of me that enjoys watching him rub it
in your face.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
But I think you deserve better.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
I do think you deserve better than going out and
watching Joe Flacco Kenny Pickett and then two rookies battle
for the job, and we the royal wee as the media,
it's so excited whenever the name Sanders is involved that
we can't even think about anyone else in this battle
right now, So oh shit, or all right, guys, get
the whole crew out there to cover Shad or Sanders NonStop.
(32:26):
But to me, one of the biggest storylines, and we'll
be following in camp, is the Browns quarterback battle. And
in fairness, when you look across the National Football League,
now that this week Brian day Bole said, hey, his
opening day starter is the New York Giants. We don't
really have a lot of quarterback battles.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
In fact, the.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
Cleveland Browns one may be the only one. Anon Rodgers
is starting in Pittsburgh, the Titans Cam Woarred's going to start.
Now that you have the Will Levis entry. I guess, hypothetically,
if things struggle for Anthony Richardson Senior, that you could
be having a quarterback battle in.
Speaker 1 (32:59):
Indy with he and Daniel Jones, Gino Smith is in Vegas.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Now, there's not a battle on any of the AFC
West teams, nothing in the NFC East, nothing in the
NFC North.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
The Saints too bad. Brie isn't here to talk about this.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
But the Saints they have a quarterback battle, right we
assume that it's either gonna be Tyler Shuck the eighty
six year old rookie Shane Ratler. Spencer Rattler's in the mix.
But I mean there's that's one of three quarterback battles
that we have. There's not a lot of open competitions
right now, and none of them has as many people
involved as the Browns have, with four dudes that appear
(33:35):
to be vying for the quarterback position. So when you
have that few and you have such a high profile name,
it's gonna get a lot more buzzed, maybe than it
even deserves. So there's camp storyline number one will obsess
over and we'll be talked about. And honestly, I'm intrigued
because I do think of the quarterback battles, I think
it's the most open. I think there's no incumbent. There's
(33:55):
no one where you look at and say he should
be the guy. That's the case in Indy they used
the first round pick on Anthony Richardson. That's probably the
case in New Orleans, where Tyler Schuck is a guy
first year in first year with Kellen Moore high draft pick.
I think what the third quarterback to go in the draft.
I think he's the guy that would be considered the incumbent,
all right, not the incumbent, the favorite in New Orleans
(34:16):
right now to be their starter. But in Cleveland, good
luck with those odds. All right, to your phone, to
the phone, to your calls. Next eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox, It's a Plank Show. We're rolling on
a Friday night into a Saturday morning right here on
Fox Sports Radio. All right, eight seven, seven ninety nine
(34:37):
on Fox. Lines are jammed up. Let's get after it.
Breeze out tonight. Brandon's in, Mark's running the show. My
name is Chris plank Is always. We're very active on
the Twitter machine at Plank Show. That's at Plank Show.
Already got some good stuff from Jason and Eddie, and
of course the nature Boy, the Nature Boy always. And
how about shout out to our man Shawn. I wonder
(34:58):
if Shady Sewn is very mad at me whenever it
comes to the college football talk.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
I'm trying.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
I'm trying to minimize it for now, but I I
could go all all show along if we wanted to.
So many great angles as we get ready for practices
to start next week in college football. About that all right,
I want to start the show off, right listen. First
guy in was Poppy. Poppy's picks have been pretty good here,
at least on the Friday Night show. I don't know
they're going for Big Ben, but Poppy and San Diego
(35:24):
kicks things off.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
What's going on? Poppy, Welcome to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 10 (35:28):
Say, Chris's where you're going?
Speaker 1 (35:30):
Outstanding? How are you?
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Man?
Speaker 1 (35:31):
You okay? You down tonight? You're good?
Speaker 11 (35:33):
No?
Speaker 10 (35:34):
No, no, I'm good. I'm good. No, I was everything good?
You know, San Diego, I see one one, so we're good.
You know it beat uh Nashville. But yeah, we're gonna
get some picks, some hot pikes. UFC fight night tomorrow,
I really love in the car. We're gonna do three
picks and you know, for your parlay and your jets,
and I'm lik you know the UFC fight. The first
(35:54):
one I have Brice Mitchell against Sadi, and I hope
they said.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
His name right close enough.
Speaker 10 (36:03):
Bryce lost his last fight, and I think this is
where he has to step up. And he's a great fighter,
and I think he learned. He didn't look too sharp
in his last fight. But I'm really liking Bryce Mitchell
minus one twenty seven, him winning. Just we're just gonna
just straight back from that one, and then the next
one is I'll do on Boliza Briges kosel Choa, right, huh,
(36:30):
you gotta show right Yeah, yeah, lost his last fight too,
but I think he has a bounce back. He's a
young fighter, he's fast. I love his energy boom boom boom,
and he's really hungry.
Speaker 12 (36:43):
We're gonna talk about plus.
Speaker 10 (36:44):
One hundred that's even money. So I like that's my
one underdog that I'm liking. In the main event, the
main event, the show time for the UFC Fight Night,
we got Robert Whitaker against Ran near them Marner hopefully
and uh Robert, he's minus one forty five. He's very powerful.
(37:07):
He was fighting like for championship, like heavyweight like on there,
like he had the belt inchin belt, and I really
like him knockout punch. I would respect him knock out
his opponent, but very powerful.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
So that's the mean of thing.
Speaker 10 (37:22):
All eyes are going to be on Robert with it,
and I'm really giving that minus.
Speaker 13 (37:26):
One forty five.
Speaker 10 (37:27):
That's probably my favorite one. And what do you think
grat about the US pointment?
Speaker 2 (37:31):
So you're going, let me just make sure we get
this clear. You're going with Kerr in the main event,
right then what are you going in the in the
other match? Now, you're going with Oo, who's the underdog
in his match up? And then in the first one,
you're going Are you going with Bryce Mitchell?
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Are you going with Normaga? Nirmagda bed?
Speaker 10 (37:50):
Yeah, I'm going with Bryce Mitchell. I really love Bryce
Mitchell and I think he's gonna.
Speaker 14 (37:54):
He's gonna win, all right.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (37:56):
Thanks for the call, Poppy. I like it now. I
gotta tell you something.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
The plank parlay hit two weeks ago, and then I
got cocky and I thought I'll stay with the Summer League,
and I got smoked last week.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
Smoked.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
I got just one for three and I can go
two for three. I feel pretty good. UFC Fight nights
are kind of like Summer League.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
Where they don't. I don't know if I have a
good feel on any of them.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
And you know, last week we did the Saturday show
last night, or excuse me, last weekend because Bernie was off.
Bernie's back this weekend, and I I don't know if
we had we've we had a better top to bottom
UFC card in a long time. It was fun, it
was good. It was one of those moments where it
got you excited like, oh okay, here we go, UFC
(38:43):
can be relevant again.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
It was fun.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
But this, like tonight for those of you on the
East Coast and the Central times, is one of those
things where it makes it hard to be a UFC
fan at times. There's that faction where every fight, every
weekend they're in on, and there's another faction where it's like,
probably we gonna take a night off. You can, you
can do a fight night on a Sunday or something.
(39:05):
What are we doing trying to make this a major,
a major main event type showdown. No, I will say
it isn't two o'clock Central time, three Eastern, so the
very least it's at a unique time slot for a
UFC fight night. Who had UFC Fight Night on Poppy's
picks on the card tonight for the rundown. I sure didn't.
Speaker 1 (39:26):
I did have that on my being Go card.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
All right, when we come back, we're heading to Vegas,
We're into Bakersfield, California. I see Andre hanging in there
out in Massachusetts, and we're gonna head to Hawaii for
the first time in a couple of weeks. So hang
in there, Joel, and all we're waiting for is you
is eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. That's the
number to call, eight seven seven nine ninety six, six
three sixty nine. If you want to jump in on
the Twitter machine. Don't have time to wait on hold,
(39:50):
don't feel good talking on the radio, you can hit
me up on Twitter. I'm at Plank Show. Everybody should
go follow us at Fox Sports Radio. We hit one
major storyline I'm keeping an eye on in NFL training camps.
That is the Cleveland Browns quarterback situation. It's one of
three maybe quarterback battles we have coming up in the preseason.
(40:10):
My major storyline number two with your calls when we
come back, stick around.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
What a night? What a night? Shouts out to Nick Kurtz. Six.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
It's four home runs second time it's happened in the
game this year, a's beat the Astros. You just hurting
to Seger's update fifteen to three, and don't forget about
what Kyle Schwarver's doing.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
Holy smokes.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Home runs number thirty five and thirty six is one
thousandth career hit in the Phillies twelve to five win
over the Yankees, and yes, in the in one of
the more shocking one eighties in the National Football League.
After hearing what Mike Brown had said earlier this week,
Shamar Stewart is in camp. He signed tonight with the
(40:58):
Cincinnati Bengals fully guaranteed deal, and now all of the
attention for the Bengals turns to trying to get Trey
Hendrickson in camp. Might I remind you that earlier this week,
just how what's the best way to put this over?
It appeared to be between the Bengals and Shamar Stuart In.
Speaker 1 (41:18):
Fact, how over was it? How over was it?
Speaker 2 (41:23):
Well, this was Mike Brown, their owner, I mean legit,
on Tuesday of this week talking about the chadour our
pardon me, the Schmar Stewart holdout.
Speaker 15 (41:34):
Oddly, something like this has never occurred with us. I
don't think it's going to occur. So we're sitting here
arguing over something that I think is pretty remote. And
I asked myself sometimes why the hell we're doing what
we are and he's doing it too, And at some
(41:56):
point we got to put this stuff behind and just
get him up here and get him so he can
be a contributor.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
Eh, there's we cleaned up Mike Brown. We made Mike
Brown sound a little bit kinder on that cut. Then
he actually was in this whole thing.
Speaker 15 (42:14):
If we get a player who gets involved in something
like that or does something that is just unacceptable, guess what.
Speaker 1 (42:22):
I don't want to pay him. I really don't.
Speaker 15 (42:24):
If he's sitting in jail, I don't think I ought
to be paying him Dan. So we say that if
he got involved in conduct detrimental, we'd have the right
to terminate the guaranteed part for the back years. His
agent says, oh, no, you can terminate the guaranteed part
only for the remaining part of the year in which
(42:47):
the event occurs.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
Well, guess what.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
Three days later he signed And today we learn, according
to Tony Pauline, that Trey Hendricks and the Bengals have
reached an agreement on the average annual value of an extension.
This is a report from Pauline. The issue remains the
matter of guarantees. Pauline is reporting that Hendrickson's asking price
(43:13):
included locked in money for the next three years. The
question of with win or if a compromise on this
front will be made remains the central Bengals storyline of
Training Camp, which I guess gets me to my Training
Camp storyline number two. Contractual situations involving Trey Hendrickson, among others,
(43:33):
Michael Parsons.
Speaker 1 (43:35):
Will they be worked out?
Speaker 2 (43:36):
I'm kind of shocked on honestly that the Shamar Stewart
deal got done, just with the narrative and the way
that it was being played out. I'm really surprised by
the situation in Vegas that's that contract. But we'll get
to Christian Wilkins later on in the show. But some
of the holdouts that are current hold INDs I guess
that are currently taking place are interesting. And I think
of all the players right now that I think Hendrickson
(44:00):
is the biggest name that's currently holding out. That's that's
pretty key to the Bengals success. Uh Terry McLaurin. We
could argue pretty key like Mike is there, but I
mean he's claiming an injury. I got a foot, I
(44:22):
got a foot. Juwan Jennings, he's not practice. He's practicing
with the team now. But maybe there's a resolution of
his contract coming up. But in Hendrickson, McLaurin, and Parsons Hendrickson, really,
I think I think Washington and McLaurin are gonna eventually
figure things out. The Hendrickson deal is one that I
(44:43):
think could drag on for a little bit. So three
big time names, two of them truly holding out. We'll
see if they can get things figured out, all right,
eight seven, seven ninety nine one Fox, get your calls
in here, Bevy, a myriad of topics to get to.
I know some of you have been waiting a while,
so let's get to Vegas. Kyle is first up this
hour in Vegas. Good morning, Kyle, Welcome to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 12 (45:05):
What's up, Chris? How are you guys doing tonight? I
know you're going to become me great, So let's keep
it moving right with my condolences to everyone who lost
somebody this week. Living Legends all three off top you know,
heartfelt story, especially with the Malcolm Jamal Warner one breaking
kind of very very heartbreaking right there, young man was
(45:28):
still a young man, you know, all all age considered.
But let's move on to the Ben Simmons of what
is now becoming the NFL. With my home team, the
Chicago Bears. Every year we hear we're gonna do great,
We're gonna do great. Get to the season and work
up par We started off looking good. Defense starts off strong,
(45:49):
offense struggles. Caleb Williams, let's just call it what it is,
a spade, a spade. I think the guy is not
what we thought he was coming out of college to
the pros. If he couldn't read eber Flus's playbook, he's
really not going to understand Ben Johnson's playbook. And that's
what the issue is now. I've heard friends and family
(46:11):
from back home saying, oh, if we flip the one
and two picks, David McDaniels would be the same way
that Caleb Williams is right now. I don't agree with
that whatsoever. It is it is on that man to
understand what it is that he's doing. If you can't
understand your job as an engineer, as a fire as
(46:31):
a firefighter, as a police officer, whatever your career choice is.
If you can't understand what your job duties are, as
your directors and hire employers are telling you how to
do your job, then something's wrong with you, not the organization.
What's going to end up happening is they're going to
end up firing that man, and it's going to be
Caleb Williams who is ultimately the one that's in the wrong.
(46:54):
I don't agree with it. I'm tired of hearing the
narrative that give him a chance, give him a chance.
He had seventeen games last year to show something special.
He showed something special within two to maybe three of them.
After that, there was no hope for that young man.
I get it. It's a different speed, it's a different
(47:14):
way of playing the game. It's a lot faster. They
come at you a lot quicker. Plays are a lot
more complicated. But young man, please take the time out
to understand what your job is and please, with all
due respect, respect your job. That's really what it comes
down to. So no, I think the Bears are going
to be another subpar team.
Speaker 3 (47:36):
I heard you take earlier.
Speaker 12 (47:38):
All four teams from the NFC North might make the playoffs.
We got to hope for Dallas to not make the
playoffs too, and they look disastrous. We're not even going
to go into that one. However, we are literally the
Ben Simmons off right now. I am gonna just keep
on repeating that. I hope that it's one of those
(47:58):
hot takes. Right there are the Simmons.
Speaker 10 (48:02):
We're shooting right.
Speaker 12 (48:03):
We're right handed players, but we're shooting it left handed.
Speaker 1 (48:05):
For some reason. I appreciate the phone call.
Speaker 12 (48:08):
I love the take, guy.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
I love you guys. I'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
Have a great day. Be safe out there in Vegas.
Can I defend it's good, good hot take the Ben Simmons.
By the way, speaking of the Ben Simmons, you know
what the Ben Simmons is, that's where you have a
apparently a viral off seasons. Have you seen the video
Ben Simmons hitting shots and then the season comes around
and he still can't shoot. We're getting a little Ben
(48:34):
Simmons here on well, I guess the bears in the
eyes of Kyle. But like Lean Lucan out, the skinny
Luca videos are coming out.
Speaker 1 (48:44):
It's not just for Kate. It's not just for Ben
Simmons anymore. Here's where I defend.
Speaker 2 (48:48):
Caleb bro They had seven different starting lineups on that
offensive line last year.
Speaker 1 (48:55):
It was bad. It was bad.
Speaker 2 (48:58):
They had zero depth, there was zero consistency, and just
not not good investments on the offensive line. So I'm willing,
I'm willing to have a little bit of grace for
Caleb Williams in year one because the offensive line was
(49:20):
subpart and spoiler alert, even though the Bears were a
little bit of a different number one overall pick because
they'd made the deal with Carolina and they had a
little bit more humph with the way that they had
finished the season in twenty twenty three. But to me,
I just I felt like some of those expectations got
a little bit too high.
Speaker 1 (49:42):
So what did they do?
Speaker 2 (49:44):
They went out and they completely rebuilt their offensive line,
and I think that it was I think that there
was some good. Now, injuries imploded them quite a bit
on the offensive line last year.
Speaker 1 (49:55):
They dealt with some injuries too, and some ineffectiveness. But
what do you do? What do you do to get better?
Speaker 2 (50:01):
All Right, your first move, you're bringing a guy like
Joe Tinney and what do you have to give up
a fourth round pick in this coming year's NFL draft,
So you automatically add a Pro Bowl type player at
one guard. You go and you get Jonah Jackson from
the Rams, you get a talented right guard. You bring
(50:26):
in Drew Dahlman, who was at Atlanta last year. So basically,
where you look at a team, I am looking at
a lot of college football teams.
Speaker 1 (50:34):
South Carolina is a team that a lot of people
are in love with.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
And they've had to completely rebuild the interior of their
offensive line, not because of ineffectiveness, but because of graduation.
Speaker 1 (50:43):
And it's it's there's like questions like they're gonna be
that good. That's where you've got to be good.
Speaker 2 (50:48):
Everyone gets caught up in tackles and I think, Daryl Darnold, right,
you're gonna be okay a tackle. But in Jackson, Dolman
and Tony you've got three studs that are taken over
in the interior of the offensive line. So to me,
if I'm a Bears fan, that gives me hope. But
you in on the most important thing. He's got to
respect the position. I'm done with his dad, Okay, I'm
(51:10):
done with him. I don't need to hear again from
Caleb Williams. Dad, it's over. Let If you want to
write a book, go write a book. If you want
to do a TV show, do a TV show. Everybody's
got a podcast, Now do a podcast. But I'm done
hearing for him, because to me, Catle Williams now has
got to immerse himself in the playbook. And if you
go back to Monday of this week, Ben Johnson spoke
(51:31):
openly about the homework and the guidelines that he gave
Caleb Williams, and it was spending thirty to forty minutes
to an hour a day in your playbook.
Speaker 1 (51:41):
That's it. That's all.
Speaker 2 (51:42):
He's like, Listen, just take time where even though you're
going to be away, get in your playbook. If you
can't give up an hour thirty minutes to go over
your playbook, you probably shouldn't be in this position. They
talk about the footwork, footwork. Williams noted how his footwork
is going to be key for his sack numbers, coming
down and working on short throws to his left that
(52:05):
he missed during OTAs. But I mean, I'm sitting here
and I'm sorry, Kyle. You made a great point respecting
the position, telling me that you're only asking a guy
to put just I need your broup with thirty minutes
in what that's it.
Speaker 1 (52:21):
Of course they've set lofty goals.
Speaker 2 (52:23):
Here was Caleb Williams this week talking about what the
Bears plans are, at least in yardage.
Speaker 16 (52:28):
Obviously, I have.
Speaker 17 (52:29):
Self goals and that's you know, being the first four
thousand yard passer in Bear's history. That's a you know,
a goal of mine. Seventy percent completion that helps the
team keeps on the field, puts his in better positions.
And then other than that, just trying to go down
and you know, score the most post points that we
can with these draft that we have. So that's kind
of my self goal and obviously other you know than that,
you gotta go win. That's success for me, that's success
(52:51):
for the team. That's all we wish for and all
I wish for.
Speaker 2 (52:53):
Okay, I wish the I think for Kyle the most
Bears fans, the first thing you want to hear is
when what's some personal goals you have? Well, I want
to win. I want to win a championship. I want
to bring a Super Bowl to Chicago. But in Caleb
Williams fashion, what does he bring up first? And again,
I don't know how the question was phrased, but even
with the phrased question that asks about personal goals, I
(53:16):
want to hear my quarterback talk about team first. I
don't care about your personal goals. I don't care about
your four thousand yards. I want to hear that you
want to win. So I understand where that's frustrating, but
it all goes full circle in me to say I
think he's gonna be okay. Now I've mentioned I'm a
flopping fish on this. I am one eighty and like crazy.
And that's fine because you can do that now in
(53:36):
the sports world and you all forget what you said
the week before. But I wouldn't be so quick to punt, Andrew,
let's get back to the phone. Sorry about that, got
a little carried away on it. I think it's another
major storyline. It's the rebuilt Bears and their front office
and their offensive line. I think it's a major story
heading into the season. Andrew is in Bakersfield.
Speaker 1 (53:54):
What's going on? Andrew? Welcome to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 16 (53:57):
What's up, Chris?
Speaker 1 (53:58):
Good morning?
Speaker 16 (53:58):
Now, So you're in Oklahoma City.
Speaker 1 (54:02):
Yeah, or essentially I'm in Norman. But we're all one
big family.
Speaker 16 (54:06):
And that's the East Eastern time.
Speaker 1 (54:08):
No Central, We're in God's time.
Speaker 3 (54:10):
Zho.
Speaker 16 (54:10):
Okay, all right, well I tried to get in. Ben
was talking about Tyreek Hill.
Speaker 14 (54:16):
Uh huh.
Speaker 16 (54:17):
And if I'm remembering correctly on the Chiefs, wasn't he
originally like the tailback and then Kareem Hunt was like
the full back kind of No.
Speaker 2 (54:28):
Hill was always a wide receiver. Yeah he was, Yeah,
yeah he was. He was a wide receiver and he
you know, he started his college career here in Oklahoma.
Well technically started at a junior college and Guarden City,
but he's spent a year at Oklahoma State before he
went to West Alabama because he had some issues. But no,
Tyreek was always the guy that they can that was
their wide receiver. They're numb one dude there.
Speaker 16 (54:48):
Okay, Well, I think maybe he should beef up and
take some running place because he's quick, and I think
he should try it.
Speaker 1 (54:56):
You know what it takes for the phone call. I
appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (55:00):
In my life, I have been burned by a running
back that was a wide receiver and it still pains
me to this day to think about that night in
Morgantown in twenty twelve when magically, out of nowhere, some
dude named Tevon Austin, who had been a wide receiver
all year long, moved to running back. And you guys
know what happened on that night when Tevon Austin moved
(55:22):
to running back for the West Virginia Mountaineers. He set
records that still to this day have not been broken.
Don't go watch the YouTube clips.
Speaker 1 (55:34):
Don't do it.
Speaker 2 (55:36):
It was one of the most amazing evenings I think
I've ever been a part of.
Speaker 1 (55:42):
Yet.
Speaker 2 (55:42):
Five hundred and seventy two all purpose yards in that game,
five seventy two. Don't watch the highlights. It's enraging. Five
seventy two. Dana Holgerson's magic moment. Man, I mean he
made West Virginia was struggling running the football. They had
(56:02):
a couple of running back issues.
Speaker 1 (56:06):
So what do they do.
Speaker 2 (56:07):
They're like, Gino Smith, We're gonna put Tevon Austin in
the backfield with you. He had over three hundred yards
rushing and had big kick returns too. It was the
single greatest individual game. I oh wait, what's our what's
our breeze?
Speaker 1 (56:23):
Three tonight?
Speaker 2 (56:24):
Brandon to guy kind of get everyone's mind going, how
do we end up phrasing that best individual performances we've seen?
Speaker 1 (56:30):
He's still alone. Oh okay, I.
Speaker 2 (56:33):
Think that's where we're going, Like best individual performances the
Teava on Austin Night in twenty twelve, he rushed for
over three hundred yards. I mean, just every seis and
Oklahoma won the game. The Sooners won the football game,
but had had West Virginia just run the football in
their final drive, they might have come back to with
(56:54):
that thing. I've never seen anything.
Speaker 1 (56:57):
Like it in my life.
Speaker 3 (56:58):
Now.
Speaker 2 (56:58):
I'm not saying that could happen with tava Are with
Tyreek Kill, but he's doing pretty good at wide receiver.
Speaker 1 (57:04):
I think Tyree Kills.
Speaker 2 (57:06):
I think the Dolphins again camp storylines, I'll sprinkle him
in here. I think they're one of the most fascinating
stories in the National Football League this preseason, Like what
are they gonna do? Are they going to be a
team like my man Arnie Spaniard talks about that's gonna
be hyped up? Of course he hasn't gone to the
Super Bowl every single year, or is it a year
where things kind of start to crater on him a
(57:26):
little bit. I think the dolphins are a fascinating story.
All right, let's get one more in here, then we'll
grab a break. Eight seven seven nine ninety six six
three six nine. Got an open line jump in here
eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox Andrea's in Massachusetts,
always bringing the heat. What's going on, Andre?
Speaker 1 (57:41):
How are you?
Speaker 11 (57:43):
I'm doing good? Thanks for taking the call. It's been
a tough week for the Autumn eight, you know, and
particularly you grew up during those years and in terms
of you know, we're losing people that were iconic, legendary,
you just gravitated towards. Of course, I'm talking about Malcolm
Jamal Warner on The Cosby Show and then and also
(58:05):
the Hulkster. But I just feel like it's gonna take
some time for things to settle out, not just because
you have you know, these two as Osbourne, you know,
just a lot of folks that you want to remember
and give them their time and their flowers.
Speaker 18 (58:21):
But particularly with.
Speaker 11 (58:22):
The Halkster, you know, he's his legacy, you know, seeing
him as the adult versus seeing him as the overpowering
world champion wrestler. I think a lot of us, just
in talking with some of my friends, you know, it's
trying to balance out those two perceptions of him, right
because you're a kid, you don't really know. You still
think wrestling is real and this guy is large than
(58:43):
life and it's going to take over the world. And
you get in the to be an adult, and first
of all, listen, you have a rite to your views
and your way of doing things and who you support politically.
Speaker 12 (58:51):
That that's one thing.
Speaker 11 (58:53):
But I think it was hurtful some of his comments
about minority communities. That people are just trying to wrestle
with her. At least I know, I am, you know,
to make sense of the full individual. But the bottom
line is, you know, in the aggregate overall, I feel
that what he meant in the formative years kind of
(59:13):
looms large. You try to understand and give people grace
about how they sometimes fail later on in life. But
it's just, you know, for eighties folks, you're trying to
you know, one, two, three, four. It's a lot to
your commentary about quarterbacks and a good point that you
made about Patrick Mahomes and people were going crazy. But
(59:35):
then I certainly worked out with all these super Bowls
and the MVPs and so on and forth. I do
think though, which should do Because of the hype and
the speculation and how people feel that he was slided
and done wrong, it is incumbent upon him to have
a strong preseason because there are going to be folks
that say, well, you put him in this situation, what
(59:56):
do you expect? But then the other token, I think
people will be apt to pounce on him should he
should he look like a rookie in preseason and not
come out and show some of the signs whereas people
thought he was a firsty second round pick. So that's
the only diversions that I would see.
Speaker 12 (01:00:12):
I think there is.
Speaker 3 (01:00:13):
It's an opportunity for you doing.
Speaker 11 (01:00:15):
That's how it needs to be looked at, because if
it does go wrong for him, which it goes wrong
for a lot of rookies, but that's gonna be those
folks that want, you know, those folks that were happy,
quietly pleased that he dropped as far as he did
in the draft, they're gonna be quick to say, well,
look exact, you know, this is what we were talking about,
Rather than if he does shine, I think it will
bolster his supporters and then kind of not necessarily he'll
(01:00:37):
win the job. But I'm just this is a moment
for him early in his career to really get things
on track. So I'm looking for him to go out
and play well. So unique situation for a quarterback, but
I'm pulling for him.
Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
Thanks taking the call.
Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
You just gave me another segment for next week.
Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
I wrote it literally, I'm a sticky note guy now
because my memory socks.
Speaker 1 (01:00:58):
I'm getting old. Who needs a big preseason?
Speaker 2 (01:01:02):
Players that need a big preseason, And you're right, Shador
Sanders is right there now. Obviously there's dudes that are
fighting for jobs. There's players that are fighting for roster spots.
We won't hit everyone, but maybe when you think about
it from a fan confidence perspective too, where we would have.
Speaker 1 (01:01:21):
The do people still go to message boards?
Speaker 2 (01:01:23):
We'd have the message boards and you would have social
media lighting up with takes about how great they looked
and they should be the guy at this position, Shadoor Sanders.
I mean nobody, and I mean nobody at all of
the NFL has a better opportunity to seize the national
spotlight more than Shadoor Sanders. Does because we're infatuated with them.
(01:01:43):
By the way, before we break, really strong phone call tonight,
Andre good stuff. Really appreciate it man. Before we go.
Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
Speaking of shad Or.
Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
Sanders, there was a report that came out today that
hasn't really blown up like I thought it would. But
Brian Howe, who covers the colorade of Buffaloes for buff
Zone and The Boulder Daily, is reporting that Dion Sanders
(01:02:14):
willed a press conference on Monday, and his medical team
will be there as well. Now, if you're not familiar
with it, Dion has coach prime. He's been he's been
battling an issue, an illness. Something he went to Big
twelve media day. Sounded great, looked great. But I you know,
(01:02:34):
I don't want to read too much into it. Hopefully
it's just a he's got a clean bill of hell.
But I mean, is there a chance that he might
have to coach from the press box with that foot
injury that he dealt with, and I not even injury,
but the surgery and then everything that went to it.
I wonder if this is gonna be a situation where
Dion's gonna have to be coaching from the press box
this year is one of the rumors. But you know
(01:02:57):
a story to keep an eye on coming out of Boulder,
where Brian Howe reports to Dion Sanders having a press
conference on Monday and that his medical team will be
a part of that press conference as well. Quick Break
will come back. More of your calls. I see you
on Hold Light It Up eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox. It's the Plank Show right here on Fox
Sports Radio. In the sports world remembered Ozzy Osbourne for
(01:03:25):
his stellar performance. Have taken me out to the ballgame
at a Cubs game, which was classic.
Speaker 1 (01:03:33):
That was Darian.
Speaker 2 (01:03:34):
I think that was doing the Osbourne TV show too.
But rest in peace, Ozzy. What a catalog, what a library,
what a showman. And then to go literally days after
your last ever concert. Wow, just amazing stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:03:51):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:03:51):
I was a fan.
Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
I'm not somebody who grew up wear an eyeliner or
talking about Black Sabbath. I didn't listen to the bow
Ozzie's boneyard on ex him. I just I appreciated him.
I thought, man, it's this dude's still kicking. How is
he still alive with all the damage that he's done.
Real quick, before we get back to the phones. He
(01:04:12):
told a great story on The Stern Show one time
that his wife, in order to get him to go
to Betty Ford, told him that the Betty Ford Center
was a place where they'll teach him how to drink
like a gentleman, so he won't get blackout and drunk
and be a mess every single time he goes goes
out or goes on tour or whatever. So he shows
(01:04:34):
up to Betty Ford, He's got a suit on, and
when he walks in, he asked first question. He's like,
He's like, okay, where's the where's the bar? Where's the
bar at? And like like, what your Betty Ford? This
is rehab. And she had completely fooled him because the
only way he was going to go was if he
thought he could still drink. And I mean he didn't stake.
It didn't stick the first time or the second time,
(01:04:56):
or the third time or the fourth time. But could
you imagine that, Brandon, you're sick else pitches hey, we're
gonna send you to Betty Ford or obviously Mark, but
good news here, it's it's not about not drinking. They're
just gonna teach you how to drink, right, I would,
I probably would suck to me. I'm like, yeah, baby,
I'll go. Are you gonna teave you how to drink?
Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:05:14):
You think I need lessons on this? You had to
figure out a way to get him in there.
Speaker 2 (01:05:18):
Yep, whatever works, oh man. And the fact that he
became hip to it pretty quick was hilarious. And he's like, oh,
son of it, they got me. But alrightp and again
we're deep in thoughts and prayers and rumored health battles
right now for great eighties icons like Phil Collins. Ryan
(01:05:40):
Sandberg is having health issues and I know Cubs fans,
it's not lost on all of us whenever you think,
oh gosh, who was it that they paid tribute to
in the crowd the other day and kind of waved up,
stood up, waved his hand and he pointed the back
of his jersey and he's wearing a Ryan Sandberg jersey,
and it's you start to be like, what's what's the
(01:06:02):
message here?
Speaker 1 (01:06:02):
What's going on? Man?
Speaker 2 (01:06:04):
As a little kid, I couldn't stand Ryan Sandburg because
I was a Dodger fan. I'm out Dodger cardnal fan.
I grew up in Saint Louis, but I love that
double play combination. Dunstan Is Sandberg, Bull Durham over first
base is great, Leon Bull Durham. That is for you
youngsters out there. Let's get back to the phones. Eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox sal Is in Loving Texas.
(01:06:27):
Good morning sal what's going on out in West Texas?
Speaker 3 (01:06:31):
Man?
Speaker 19 (01:06:31):
A lot of way to a lot of dirt.
Speaker 3 (01:06:33):
How are you guys?
Speaker 1 (01:06:34):
A lot of win, a lot of dirt. I feel
you and it's hot too, man, I'm good.
Speaker 3 (01:06:38):
Hey.
Speaker 20 (01:06:38):
So, first of all, really one of my first times
listening to you guys and enjoy it.
Speaker 1 (01:06:44):
Thank you, man.
Speaker 3 (01:06:45):
But get a civil question.
Speaker 19 (01:06:47):
Are you guys ex athletes or are you guys just
super sports guys that want to cover it because you're
because you love it.
Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
I think Brandon might have been an athlete. I just
love it. I've been doing it for thirty years, so
it's just kind of been my thing. I just love sports. Why, yeah,
is that important to you?
Speaker 11 (01:07:04):
Do?
Speaker 3 (01:07:04):
I could?
Speaker 1 (01:07:04):
I was a standout listen, I was in a standout anything.
Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
I was a starting catcher on my high school baseball
team if that means anything.
Speaker 20 (01:07:12):
Yeah, and I was whoever the f I was, you know?
Speaker 19 (01:07:15):
But I don't mean, but it's about how we care
about the sport, and like, yeah, than anything, it's about
the what it felt like in the locker room before
we went out there and the impact we made things
like that.
Speaker 13 (01:07:30):
But I say that to.
Speaker 14 (01:07:32):
Say this is like.
Speaker 20 (01:07:35):
One of you guys, and I don't know who it was,
I made like a back headed comment about the Cowboys
and I'm not even I am a Cowboys fan. But
it wasn't even like I took it personal.
Speaker 19 (01:07:43):
But it's like it comes off so easy because you
don't know the effort that players put into it or
the value of uh of what it is to even
just put on all you know, because.
Speaker 20 (01:08:02):
If that makes any kind of sense, like to be
able to make a practice squad on an NFL team,
that's a big deal.
Speaker 1 (01:08:10):
Right, Oh, absolutely, it's a huge ted.
Speaker 19 (01:08:13):
So I guess my question is is I appreciate that
everybody has to help be held.
Speaker 18 (01:08:21):
To a standard, right obviously.
Speaker 19 (01:08:24):
But at what point is it okay to do that
when you have not done it yourself?
Speaker 2 (01:08:30):
If that makes sense, I know, I appreciate that. For clarification,
that was a caller. I'm listen. I'd have too many
friends that have played in the league to ever dump
all over pro players. Other people can do it, and
I think as fans, we all see guys and gals
that don't look like they're giving that all out one effort,
(01:08:51):
and you're like, what is this crap?
Speaker 1 (01:08:53):
I paid for my ticket? Now you know this?
Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
You you're in tech are You're in loveing? So you're
with tech people? Or right, it's getting the college ranks too.
Speaker 1 (01:09:02):
No one is.
Speaker 2 (01:09:03):
No one is what's the word above reproach in the
sports world. I think that's one thing we've learned. But
there's got to be a respect for what they do.
I mean, I got a buddy of mine that has
been in the NFL. I think it's going on twelve
years now. And if I were to say he's made
his entire career out of a being an incredible long
(01:09:25):
snapper and he has three Super Bowl rings, you'd say
long snapper. But he'd run circles around you in any
athletic event. Anything you would want to do, he would
run circles around you. So my point, more than anything else,
is that I agree with you, but I don't don't
get your anger out on us.
Speaker 1 (01:09:43):
Man. It's fine you be mad at me.
Speaker 2 (01:09:44):
I can handle I got an ex wife, but then
nobody taking shots at least in this trio of us
at the Cowboys. Yet we wait till the regular season.
They take enough shots themselves. But the problem with the
Cowboys right now is I don't really know if Jerry
is some evil genius in the way that he's handled
some of these contract situations, because they always work out
(01:10:05):
for the Cowboys in the end, they always get their
guy signed, or if it's truly him waiting until the
wrong moment to seal that deal.
Speaker 1 (01:10:14):
I mean, you look and everyone's like, oh, he ends
up overpaying? Well does he? Because everyone eventually when they.
Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
Sign a guy he first signed him like they overpaid
for him, and then two weeks later when the next
two guys gets signed, he's like, Wow, I'm glad they
got the deal done when they did.
Speaker 1 (01:10:30):
Like, did he overpay for Ceedee Lamb? I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:10:34):
I think Ceedee Lamb's worth every penny. But the Justin
the Jamar Chase deal is going to be high that
Justin Jefferson. I know he's getting a little older, but
when he gets his new deal, it's going to be ridiculous.
Like I guess I don't understand why why Jerry Jones
is so questioned in these moments, because he's always proven
that they get the deal done. I can't believe I
(01:10:56):
listened to a cowboy fan. You want to get mad,
you want to really get mad. Sal I google Ceedee
Lamb's contract negotiations. I was looking back at it last
last last week, because everyone was losing their minds over
the Micah Parson comments, well, guess what Jerry said the
same thing about Ceedee Lamb last year. He's like, I'm
(01:11:17):
no rush to get Ceedee Lamb's signed, and Ceedee Lamb
through a tweet out. Guess what ended up happening. Ceedee
Lamb got paid and you know what he's doing, It's
having a good camp. And then I'm listening to this guy,
Jerry jed Joe's stupid more and blah blah.
Speaker 1 (01:11:30):
It's like this.
Speaker 2 (01:11:31):
These deals always get done, and everyone always wants to say, well,
he's waiting too long and he's paying more than fair
market value or whatever it is.
Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
Who cares?
Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
He didn't care, nor do most of the people, because
a month later, someone's gonna get a bigger deal than
Michael Parsons. A month later, a wide receiver got a
bigger deal than Ceedee Lamb. It's just it's the reality
of the world that we live in. There's always another
big deal that's going to overshadow the deal that's just given.
I mean twenty sixteen, everything goes back to the Raiders.
(01:12:03):
After his first really good season, the Raiders signed Derek
Carr to what was the richest contract ever for a
quarterback in twenty sixteen. Literally a week later, Matt Stafford
signed a deal and it overshad I mean, it was
bigger than that.
Speaker 1 (01:12:16):
So I'm not ready to freak out. Tr from Iowa
put a wrap on this segment for me. What's going on? TR?
How are you.
Speaker 5 (01:12:25):
Doll?
Speaker 1 (01:12:26):
Tr bailed? Well, we were on a good role. We
were on a good role. We hadn't had one phone
called bail so no, no, oh, no, yeah, Hey, the
streak lives. What's going on? TR? How are you?
Speaker 3 (01:12:37):
Well?
Speaker 14 (01:12:38):
You brought up some names from my youth there, Phil
Collins and Ryan Samberg as a mid eighties high school
graduate that hits home and thinking about them tonight. You
mentioned Ozzy Osbourne here in Iowa. That was the controversy
in nineteen eighty two, Veterans Memorial Auditorium when he I
think he accidentally put the head off a bat that night.
Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
You know what, It's funny you say that because I
remember being a little kid and we were probably near
the same age and my mom when that happened, you
would have thought he walked in our house and did
it in the living room. Man, anything Ozzy was banned.
Speaker 1 (01:13:14):
I mean it was. It was crazy town. You kids
think you having tough.
Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
Now, imagine trying to listen to some heavy metal in
the eighties when Ozzy Osbourne allegedly bit the head off
of bat.
Speaker 1 (01:13:23):
It wasn't happening.
Speaker 14 (01:13:25):
It was next level, wasn't it. I wanted I called
in to talk about Bob Steuss a while back, and
I wanted to follow up. There's something else. I forgot
to mention that by Molesby not hiring Bob Soups and
him going to Oklahoma, we also lost out on Chuck Long.
Chuck Long had started coaching and career under Hayden Fry.
(01:13:47):
Chuck Long runner up to Bo Jackson nineteen eighty five
Heisman Chicago Land Area Prep went to the Lions in
the NFL. A contemporary of Harball from Michigan who went
to the Bears. Anyway, Chuck Long was getting coaching career
started and was doing great recruiting job for I was
a defensive backs coach, really really recruiting the South very well,
(01:14:07):
doing getting great inroads in Texas there and I was
at a I was actually a middle school coach at
a school that later produced Tommy Harris. And in the
mid and in the mid nineties, Chuck Long was down there.
Speaker 3 (01:14:22):
I didn't get a chance.
Speaker 14 (01:14:23):
To meet him because I was doing something else, but
our coach has absolutely loved him, loved him anyway. Chuck
Long and Bob Steeps went sixty seven and eleven together
at OU and I always kind of thought that Chuck
Long's name was a little too big for Kirk parents
to name as a coordinator. Therefore he had to go
outside the program to get a coordinator job.
Speaker 1 (01:14:44):
Great memories, man, Thanks for the phone call. I appreciate it, Bud. Yeah, the.
Speaker 2 (01:14:50):
Chuck Long had quite a run, and I like Chuck
a lot. He's done some media stuff with us now.
You know, a couple weeks ago, Scott Frost made everyone
mad when he's said, don't take the wrong job. Chuck
Long's biggest mistake, was it in two thousand and six.
He just took the wrong job, took that San Diego
State job, and it wasn't set up for success. Kind
of imploded things. But he's a great dude. Oh he
(01:15:11):
could sling it, man, he could sling it. Back in
the day, it was Chuck Long, Bo Jackson and Joe D.
Speaker 1 (01:15:18):
Deck. What the heck?
Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
Why not do Deck in the running for the Heisman Trophy.
That was hilarious, all right, thanks to the phone call
and the trip down memory lane. It's been that way tonight.
In fact, when we come back, let me take care
of a little work. Let me do some let me
do some actual work here, some legwork, and let's talk
about the other storylines on I'm keeping an eye on
an NFL camps next. Hey, be sure to check out

All right, coming up next hour, Breez out. But in
lieu of Breeze three's we got what Brandon's bits, Brandon's
three B's trio, whatever way you want to look at it,
and it's a tribute. Get your mind thanking tonight to
(01:16:49):
Nick Kurtz's big game for the Oakland A's six or
six four home runs scored, six runs droven eight runs,
four home runs. Getting am I getting the gist of
the u of the second segment in our three right kind.
Speaker 1 (01:17:05):
Of like Brandon's trio. Here is that right of offensive plays?
Speaker 4 (01:17:09):
Yeah, we could do that, we could do uh, you
know best offensive performances from all sports, though, make.
Speaker 1 (01:17:15):
It a little easier. Don't give it away. I won't,
I won't, Or just baseball for something, forget what you heard.
I don't think I could. I don't think I would
do very well if it was just baseball. Like and
that's what Mark said.
Speaker 2 (01:17:27):
In nineteen eighty three, Max Watson hit five home runs
in a little league game in Wood River, Illinois. Still
the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my life.
And four of the five went over the fence. Yeah,
I'm here for it. A couple of camp storylines, so
let me put a rap on this segment that are
this bit that I've been trying to milk through the
entire show talked about some of the big storylines for
(01:17:51):
NFL training camps.
Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
This week.
Speaker 2 (01:17:52):
Number one, we laid out the battle for the Brown
starting quarterback job, one of three maybe the battles right
now in the National Football League for a starting job.
Seeing that the Giants came out and said Russell Wilson
is our guy, I mean, and Cam Ward's the guy
in Tennessee, will Lewis assert it's gonna have the shoulder surgery.
Speaker 1 (01:18:12):
He's out. So we're talking.
Speaker 2 (01:18:14):
About what maybe a battle in New Orleans, maybe a
battle in Indianapolis, definitely a battle in Cleveland. So put
the Browns and their quarterback four person derby, maybe more
like three up there for one of the major storylines.
Speaker 1 (01:18:29):
How about this? What the lines?
Speaker 2 (01:18:32):
Truly look like everyone's losing their mind about the NFC North,
and understandably so. But there's two teams that I have
questions about. I think coordinator, I think coordinators matter a lot,
and Dan Campbell has to replace both of them, an
offensive and a defensive coordinator and two really good ones
at that, two guys that left to take head coaches jobs.
Speaker 1 (01:18:50):
So how do you replace them? How do you keep
the Jesus flowing?
Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
You feel like the defense is going to get better
this year because guys are going to be healthy in Detroit.
But this is now a team that's had a pretty
strong run. Now we're going on and I mean, we
want to talk about second acts in your career. I mean,
this is an incredible job by Dan Campbell. Raiders try
to emulate it with a guy like Antonio Pierre's not
the same, but he has been. He's been a phenomenal
(01:19:17):
head coach three straight years with nine or more wins.
You know, you made it to the NFC Championship Game
last year, upset in the Divisional round last year, but
again fifteen to two on the season. How do you
bounce back from the disappointing end to the twenty fourth season,
but more importantly replacing a guy like Ben Johnson and
(01:19:38):
Aaron Glynn. I do think another major storyline is in
the central are part of me in the North with him?
Because I mean, what do we expect from JJ McCarthy?
Have you noticed every highlight you see of JJ McCarthy
is against guys who couldn't even make the Raiders, Like,
what are we doing? It's ridiculous, But yet there's people
falling all over themselves to tell you that this very
(01:19:59):
mid college quarterback is going to be the next star
of the Vikings.
Speaker 1 (01:20:03):
And I think the other big story that is worth
keeping an eye on is Justin Fields.
Speaker 15 (01:20:07):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:20:08):
I know we had him basically in a body cast
after he got his toast stubbed at practice on when
was that Wednesday? But another second chance, maybe a third
chance even And I have memories of the twenty twenty
two semi finals when he was at Ohio State. Dude,
can ball. Does he take advantage of it with the Jets?
Major camp storyline?
Speaker 1 (01:20:28):
There? Man, final hour already? What are we doing? Welcome
into the Plank Show right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
Bria is out again, she hates us, but Brandon Deutsch
is in doing a great job producing the show. Mark
Ramsey running it as always. And do you know what
we haven't given enough credit to tonight? In Major League Baseball?
We've talked about the Nick Kurtz night six for six,
four home runs, six runs, bat it in, eight run,
(01:21:05):
six runs scored, eight runs batted in, nineteen total bases.
We've talked about Kyle Schwarber and his big night for
the Phillies where he hit two home runs. He now
has a thousand career hits. The Phillies beat the Yankees
twelve to five. But we haven't talked about the crazy
finish on zach Nito Knight for the Mighty, Mighty Mighty Angels.
Speaker 10 (01:21:31):
Let's see it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:32):
Let's see.
Speaker 16 (01:21:35):
You, slim.
Speaker 3 (01:21:42):
For seeing it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:46):
The party was on, zach Nato says.
Speaker 2 (01:21:48):
The game saves the day as the Angels slow things
down a bit for the Seattle Mariners, winning three to two.
So fun night in Major League Baseball. And again he's
on these Systack days. I brought up earlier. I was
talking with some buddies earlier, how I'm just I'm a
Dodgers guy. I love the Doyers. So for me, it's
(01:22:11):
a little bit rough right now. Right even though the
Dodgers one to night over the Red Sox, things have
not been flowing. So for me personally, it's been a
bit of a challenge. So baseball has had to kind
of take a little bit of a backseat. Okay, I'm
gonna focus on my football prep. I'm gonna focus on
college football. I'm not gonna get too caught up in
this world of Major League Baseball right now. Trade deadline's
(01:22:34):
coming up on Thursday. Let's see if they make a
move that can suck me back in. But then they
win a game and you kind of start looking around
the league and you realize, dang man, there are some
big names that could end up being moved. I mean,
I know, Paul Skans the Pirates have basically said it's
not gonna happen, but you never know, right it. I'm
(01:22:56):
never gonna say never. Nolan Arnattom, former Rocky current Cardinal.
I mean could Saint Louis. It's it's this great battle
that so many Major league teams have right now. Do
you feel like you're in it? If you're two or
three games out of the wildcard? We've seen wildcard teams
make runs to the World Series before. But if you're
(01:23:16):
I guess the Cardinals are a great example of this
right now. If you're Saint Louis and you're sitting right
now in the wildcard battle, where you are a game
and a half out of the Wildcard and you're thinking,
you about the overall divisional battle if that matters to you.
You're eight games back, but you're still in the playoff mix.
Is that enough to where you say, no, no, no,
(01:23:38):
we're not making a move. We're standing pat We feel
like we've got a team that can make a run.
And maybe for some of these squads, like the Mets,
you know, Jeff Passen, Sorry, Buster Olney wrote an article
this week over at ESPN dot com where you had
the Mets and the Phillies, but and Padres were in
this mix too, as teams desperate to make a movie
(01:23:59):
before the All Star break. The Brewers I don't think
they were on that list, but the Cubs were like
an honorable mention. Is part of the reason why you
see some of these NL teams maybe trying to bulk
up because they've realized that the Dodgers help wise, they're
struggling right now and maybe they're vulnerable. And even if
the starting rotation ends up being Yamamoto, show Hey Glass
(01:24:25):
now and Snell by the time we get to the postseason,
who's to say that if they get a fly ball
to the outfield, the outfield is going to make the
freaking play. But if I'm a National League team right now,
I don't know if I'm in cell mode, even if
I am a game or two games back in the
wild card. Boy Brandon, I didn't have me doing this
much baseball on the breakdown for this third hour, but
(01:24:48):
you are my baseball guy. So do you feel like
this is going to be an active trade deadline? Because
there's a part of me that thinks it's going to.
But then you kind of look around the league and
everyone seems a little bit scared. Is because some of
these plays for a big time bat or a big
time arm at the All Star break and the trade deadline,
I should say it's kind of it hasn't worked you know,
(01:25:11):
a lot of teams recently.
Speaker 4 (01:25:13):
Yeah, it's weird, Chris, because you know, there's all it's
about supply and demand, and there's a demand for pitching
right now, especially for the Cubs and Dodgers. If we're
looking at contenders and there are really only a few
arms that are available, like Sandy al Kontara is available,
and I'm astray, I'm sure one of the Dodgers or
Cubs will give up, you know, a prospect, whether that
(01:25:34):
be Kevin al Kantara from who is the same last name,
by the way, from the Cubs, or you know, a
Dodgers prospect. Are they willing to give up one of
their top ten prospects or even top five prospects.
Speaker 1 (01:25:45):
For an arm like him?
Speaker 4 (01:25:46):
Right So, I think it's you know, we already saw
the Josh Naylor trade. I know a lot of you know,
the Mariners kind of fleece. They didn't even they didn't
even have to give up a top ten prospect to
get him, even though the contract is a little different.
He's not signed long term. But I think we'll see
a lot more arms go the closer we get to
the deadline. I think that's the tougher part to figure
out these bigger names. Remember, these teams always look for
(01:26:08):
the best possible offer, because they'll try and stick them
until the last thirty minutes, and then you'll start see
like Jack Flairity I don't remember last year, like Jack
Flairity got traded to the Dodgers like last second, and
it turned out to help them win the World Series.
So I don't know if we'll see much movement in
the next three or four days. But once we get
to July thirtieth, July, you know, thirty first, we're gonna
see a ton of movement.
Speaker 2 (01:26:29):
How all the Dodgers give up uh Lerenzo and Trey Sweeney? Yeah,
I can keep an eyes on that.
Speaker 1 (01:26:36):
What about the Kopek one too? They gave up just Vargas, right, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:26:39):
Yeah, And it's you know again, I don't know if
the Dodgers are going to be a team that feels
like they need to make a move.
Speaker 1 (01:26:47):
Personally, I wouldn't either elevate some.
Speaker 2 (01:26:50):
Of your young guys from the minor leagues and give
a shot in the outfield, or let's just let's go
get some relief pitching, because I don't they don't need
to go get another starter, unless unless Paul Skins and
the asking price from the Pirates magically drops just a bit,
which I don't think it's going to. Do you expect
any surprises, I think is my last question on Major
(01:27:10):
League Baseball. Expect any shocks on Thursday.
Speaker 1 (01:27:16):
You know, I don't expect Paul Skans to be traded.
I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:27:20):
I keep bringing it up, and I don't. I'd be
pretty I mean, because think about it. You got to
think about it from a marketing standpoint too, Like what
Pirates fans would go to the game if Paul Skins
isn't there. I know he pitches every fifth day, but like,
that's the jersey you're selling. That's sh right, that's your
franchise player. And you do have some prospects like Connor
Griffin and other guys you can build around. And you
(01:27:40):
know Jones got hurt obviously this season. I do expect
the Angels to be more active than they have been
in previous trade deadlines. I know, you know, Perriman Ashian,
this is more. It's not a lot of pressure their GM.
This is a team that's been competitive, but you know,
you have three other teams basically in their own division
that are better than New in Texas, Seattle, and of
(01:28:02):
course Houston and doesn't even have Jordn Alvarez back. So
I expect them to sell more than you know they
typically wouldn't. I don't know if that means Taylor Ward,
who has another year of control, but I definitely think
it means youon Mancatta, who was like an eight fifty
oh ps. I think those are some surprises. I think
a lot of people thought Yon Moncatta going into the year,
he's washed. Who is this guy former number one overall prospect,
(01:28:23):
But he's had a good year Other than that, Chris,
I'm it's not like Kyle Tucker's getting traded like the
Cups are going to try and extend him in the
off season. That'll be a bitting where I don't see
any I don't I think this will be one of
the weaker trade deadlines in recent memory.
Speaker 1 (01:28:36):
Okay, I hope you're right.
Speaker 2 (01:28:38):
I I just I don't think the Pirates need to
be even talking. And I know there's probably people in
our Pittsburgh market they're like playing, dude, we all moved
on from this like two weeks ago. I know, I know,
I get it, but you just.
Speaker 1 (01:28:52):
You never know. You never know, and I don't know
what's going on behind the scenes. They're pretty quiet about it.
Speaker 10 (01:28:58):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:28:58):
There's always fan that want to get on social media
and say, but ex player has said that he loves
our city he never wants to leave. Well, yeah, Kevin
Durant said the same thing about Oklahoma City and was
in Golden State the next day. You know, it's what
athletes do. They tell you what you want to hear,
and you end up looking foolish because you defend them.
Don't defend the dudes. They're gonna end up going where
they want to go. Now, two other notes before we
(01:29:20):
get back to the phones at eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox, before we get to Brandon's trio in
place of Breeze three number one. I can't get enough
of Joe Milton's trash talk.
Speaker 1 (01:29:36):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:29:36):
I don't know if he's any good. Joe Milton is
one of those guys that the where's my Tennessee volunteer
fans at You.
Speaker 1 (01:29:43):
Guys know Joe Milton.
Speaker 2 (01:29:46):
You know, I heard this joke a long time ago
whenever there was there was a pit quarterback that was
being talked about in the NFL draft. And I'm not
gonna lie to you. It was a guy that I
wasn't very It was pre Kinny Pickett and Tom Savage.
Speaker 1 (01:30:05):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (01:30:05):
Tom Savage, and everybody in the NFL draft process was
losing their mind for some reason about Tom Savage. Dude
out about you, guys. I've been watching this Tom Savage
tape and I think he's pretty good. Tom Savage has
got to keep an eye on in the later rounds.
You might be an NFL starter. And one of the
Pitt Panthers beat writers said something that I steal every
single time whenever I hear people hyping up a terrible
(01:30:29):
college quarterback. The way people are talking about Tom Savage,
it makes me think the Pitt Panthers needed a quarterback
like Tom Savage.
Speaker 1 (01:30:38):
The way people are talking about Joe Milton.
Speaker 2 (01:30:41):
Makes me think that Tennessee two years ago needed a
quarterback like Joe Milton.
Speaker 1 (01:30:46):
Guys, Joe Milton's terrible.
Speaker 2 (01:30:47):
He stinks. You know, he's gonna run around, He's gonna
make a couple of plays. He's gonna be a preseason
Hall of Famer. And when a time, when it comes time,
when the rubber hits the road when it's nut cutting time,
the dude cannot.
Speaker 1 (01:31:01):
He's he is the most.
Speaker 2 (01:31:02):
Inaccurate quarterback I think I've ever seen at the highest
level of football.
Speaker 1 (01:31:06):
But I'm here for his trash talk.
Speaker 2 (01:31:09):
Joe Milton said a Cowboys training camp that he and
his agent orchestrated the trade to Dallas so he could
get a fresh start, and I quote definitely I preferred it.
That was something me and my team put together. They
were able to get it done. I really didn't have
to do much or say much, so just shout out
to my agent. That's pretty much it. He was asked
(01:31:32):
about Dak Prescott as a teammate and a leader and
decided to use that opportunity to take a little bit
of a jab at the Patriots and their quarterback situation.
Dak is a great leader, all respect to him, Milton said.
He literally goes out of his way to help me.
No matter if the coach is talking in the meeting,
(01:31:54):
he literally goes out of his way to help. I've
been in another building. I know how that goes. It's
just very different over there now. Milton didn't mention either
Jacoby Brissett or Drake may By name, but indicated that
one thing he prefers it out about Dallas is sharing
the quarterback room with Dak Prescott. First of all, Joe Milt,
you're Joe freaking Milton. Shut up, good luck, go have
(01:32:17):
an amazing preseason where everyone can lose their mind about
how good you are, and then when it comes to
playing time we never see you. We are very I
don't want to get my man sal and Lubbock mad
at me, but Sal, I've lived the Joe Milton experience.
Speaker 1 (01:32:34):
Okay, I know what this is about.
Speaker 2 (01:32:36):
It's just funny whenever you have a guy that comes
in in trash talks and it's one of those moments
you're like, bro, you were a third string there. You
couldn't beat out Jacoby Brissette, Like what are you talking about?
Speaker 1 (01:32:46):
Stop it?
Speaker 2 (01:32:47):
You orchestrated a trade. You orchestrated a trade. I mean,
come on, But I will say there is one thing
it was brought to someone.
Speaker 3 (01:32:57):
Was it you?
Speaker 2 (01:32:58):
Maybe that brought up Anthony Richards and the kind of
the struggles with him as I think we're talking about it.
Speaker 1 (01:33:03):
Yeah, off the air, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:33:05):
People fall in love with the traits and Joe Milton
has all the traits except maybe the most important trait
for a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:33:12):
He is not accurate.
Speaker 2 (01:33:14):
He can't throw the football. I mean, and this is
where Sal Sal You're in my head. Man, I love it,
but he can throw the football better than me. But
I'm not sitting here saying I try to orchestrate a
trade to the Cowboys. I'm not sitting here trying to
say that I made all this happen and that a
quarterback room of the previous place I was at was terrible.
Speaker 1 (01:33:33):
And I'll tell you what, people, this is a long
play take.
Speaker 2 (01:33:36):
Okay, people are gonna lose their mind about him in
the preseason because he's gonna make some plays. He does,
he's just that athletic. But you know else made plays,
Treel pryor where did he end up tight end? You
know you know who else made plays? I mean the
Johnny Manzel. Guess we're eat it up out of league.
Speaker 3 (01:33:51):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:33:52):
It's just it's you gotta be able to accurately throw
the football, and Joe Milton can't do it. But Cowboy fans,
I'm here for the hype. I'm here for the excitement. Please,
are you a believer in Joe Milton?
Speaker 1 (01:34:03):
Brandon. I have a friend who is I am not.
I like his arm, but you need to.
Speaker 4 (01:34:09):
Talk him down off the ledge. Tell me to go
watch some TIS. I will, but I'll tell you this, Chris.
I'm still somewhat of a believer in Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 1 (01:34:16):
Oh, I am too. I don't know why. I don't
know why.
Speaker 2 (01:34:21):
Maybe it's the seventy yard throws that I see, but
give me that.
Speaker 10 (01:34:25):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:34:26):
The big question with Richardson is can't he stay healthy? Yeah,
because now we're two years in the guy hasn't been
able to stay on the field. So, I mean, things
are so bad in Indy. They're trying to tell us
that Daniel Jones had a good spring and that he's
going to be battling for the quarterback job. And somehow
in the middle of all this, Anthony Richardson became Anthony
Richardson Senior. I don't know that happened, but I'm a believer.
(01:34:48):
I think he'd be a good NFL quarterback. One other note,
one other note before we get back to the phones,
and I see Stephen Casey. A wild story developed this
week at Big tim Medy Today, and it was a
what appeared to be like a jilted ex lover with
the way that the Big Ten talked about the sec s,
(01:35:08):
bro show me on the doll Big Ten where the
sec hurt you, Which is funny because these are the two.
Speaker 1 (01:35:19):
Entities that control the future of college football.
Speaker 2 (01:35:22):
Listen to this from Mike Loxley talking about what happened
last year at Maryland.
Speaker 21 (01:35:29):
Of a year of what I like to call vulnerability.
One of the greatest characteristics you can have as a
leader is the ability to be vulnerable. And I'll tell
you a year ago, coach Locks lost his locker room
and for me to stand in front of a group
of media and tell you that I lost my locker room,
and it wasn't because I wasn't a good coach, It
wasn't because they weren't good players, because we were better
(01:35:49):
than a four win team. But what we have to
do is we had haves and have nots for the
first time in our locker room, and the landscape of
college football taught me a valuable lesson, and that valuable
lesson is important for me, even in the midst of
this change, to continue to educate our players on the
importance of what playing for something bigger than yourself is
(01:36:11):
all about.
Speaker 1 (01:36:12):
So basically, let me go ahead and shorten that.
Speaker 2 (01:36:16):
Have have nots nil tour apart is locker room, nil
tour apart the Maryland locker room because people can't shut
up with how much they make. And now you have agents,
Like two weeks ago, we had an agent come on
this radio network and he told you that he got
a five million dollar deal for a a high school senior.
(01:36:36):
And then whenever you started going into the numbers, you're like,
this isn't a five million dollar deal, it's not even
close to it. But what's out there now? Felix ojo
is making five million dollars. You don't think that's going
to create a schism in the locker room with older
offensive linemen when he comes in that are making less
than him. College football man, it's it needs. It has
(01:36:57):
a salary cap. It does, it really does. But now
that is even in play because it went for being
a hardcap to being a softcap this week because of
new challenges from the House Committee. I mean, it's just
out the House settlement.
Speaker 1 (01:37:10):
It's just.
Speaker 2 (01:37:12):
You've got to be a really really good leader of men.
You've got to have a really solid leadership system. In
place to avoid things like that. Now, I'm not here
to tell you that if Mike Loxley was able to
control the nil issues in his locker room, then Maryland
would have been any good at football last year. But
he just said the silent part out loud. And I've
(01:37:34):
talked to a lot of former coaches and that's their
biggest fear. Now, you have a new structure in place,
you got a GM, you got a front office, you
got a head of football, you got you got a
new leadership model in place in college football. But it
still comes down to keeping the locker room happy. And
that was a wild admission this week for Mike Loxley.
(01:37:54):
All right, eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. We
got time to fit in two calls. Then we got
in place of a brief these threes Brandon brandon'strio coming
up next. So Steve, oh my gosh, Stephen, Kansas City,
wait until the final hour.
Speaker 1 (01:38:07):
What's going on? How are you on this Saturday morning?
Speaker 18 (01:38:10):
The people's champion is here, man, all the all of
our childhood heroes. The sports fates are taking away all
of our I don't think they can handle the weather man.
I heard Bruce Willis is in bad shape too.
Speaker 2 (01:38:23):
Oh gosh, yes, add Bruce to it too. I don't
know if Bruce is quite in hospice yet, but he's
been struggling as well.
Speaker 1 (01:38:29):
It's been a rough week for US gen xers. Man.
Speaker 18 (01:38:32):
Oh dude, that's that's gonna be a bad one.
Speaker 12 (01:38:34):
Man.
Speaker 18 (01:38:34):
When Bruce Willis was a cab driver, a boxer, man,
what a what a great what a great guy.
Speaker 12 (01:38:41):
I mean, I just I hope he.
Speaker 18 (01:38:43):
I hope, like you said, I hope he. You know,
it's gonna be hospice and then and then then the
sly But you know you were you were talking about uh,
they're talking about football. They're gonna kill the Golden They're
gonna kill the Golden goose here. I mean, I don't
know if you mentioned the North Carolina store and Clemson
murder program.
Speaker 1 (01:39:03):
That's a great point. Yeah, that's a good one. The
SEC rumors.
Speaker 18 (01:39:07):
Listen there, there's no I mean, even if it's in thirty,
even if it's in twenty twenty thirty and Belichick can
get them up, to get them up to stuff, North
Carolina is a second rate, third rate program in the SEC.
Same thing with Clemson.
Speaker 3 (01:39:25):
Clemson is not doing it.
Speaker 18 (01:39:26):
It's not doing the big deals. Is not doing those
big money deals. I'm sorry, man, I hate the rain
on Davo Davo's parade. But Clemson is a middle of
the packet. They're lucky in the in the SEC. I
don't understand. I know, it's guaranteed money. I know, I know,
maybe it's Pristy's. That's the end of the ACC pretty much.
(01:39:49):
If they lose Clemson, if they lose North Carolina, that
means Miami probably peels off. That means I mean, this
is they're gonna do what the strike did the baseball
is what this conference alignment is going to do to
to football. I mean the Big twelve maybe a benefitsher.
W'll pick up all the all the all the all
(01:40:10):
the stragglers. It sounds like, but what who's going to
watch the ACC without without Miami, without Florida State, without Clemson,
without North Carolina, because you know, you know Florida State.
Florida State's going straight to the NDC too. I mean
they were already they already tried to get out, they
already tried to get the a CEC. Is the new
(01:40:32):
is the new PAC twelve? I mean from from what
happened this week. I mean, this is this is terrible
for college called. I mean I hate to be the
voice of DO, but this is awful for for college football.
The ACC is going to be an also ran. Maybe
the Big twelve will be really good. I mean, that'll
that'll be good. That'll be good for us. But we
gotta we gotta watch the greed man watch watch the
(01:40:53):
abject that the abject greed when there's no when there's
no upside, I mean, I mean, oh, you kind of
effort with this, I mean is is oh you o
you's got to get got to get better in the
SCC or else there. Yeah, they're the same same position
as Clemson, you know. I mean it's just I don't
understand if I mean, you you know all about this
(01:41:14):
from from OU. What what is the what is the
upside that all these schools are clamoring for that they're leaving,
leaving the ACC, leaving you know, leaving their established conference
and basically basically giving the death knell to their to
their conference to go to the SEC. I don't I
don't understand it, and no one has explaining this to me.
Speaker 2 (01:41:37):
Well I got okay, Casey, Thanks to the phone call, buddy,
I appreciate it. Let me tell you what it's all about,
and this is very simple, cold hard gosh. The SEC
distributed an average of fifty two point six million dollars
per school, fifty two point six in the twenty three
(01:41:59):
twenty four school year.
Speaker 1 (01:42:01):
Now again this was with twenty three twenty four.
Speaker 2 (01:42:04):
This was with OU for part of that still in
the Big twelve, but for the most part and still
taking a half payout, fifty two point six million per school.
The Big twelve was at thirty seven point eight. It's
a fifteen million dollar per year difference, which is an
amount of money that for some reason we scoff that.
Now in life it's like, what's fifteen million dollars? But
(01:42:28):
it is a reridiculous amount of money, and that number
goes up. The SEC about fifty two point six mil
per year, the ACC about forty three, the Big Twelve
right around I think now forty. So the bottom line,
more than anything else, is about cold hard cash, and
it's about access. It's about the ability to get your
(01:42:52):
teams in the biggest moments, in the biggest games. Now,
Claumb's got to be better. I personally don't buy this
North Carolina report. I think that's a bunch of hogwash
right now. But to me, if the SEC is going
to expand, the SEC is going to look at teams
like North Carolina and Virginia, I don't think Clempson is
in that mix.
Speaker 1 (01:43:12):
I don't think Florida State is in that mix.
Speaker 2 (01:43:14):
If if Clempson in Florida State had an opportunity to
be in the SEC, they'd already be in the SEC.
It would already be done. Oh what about the grant
of rights? No, it'd be done if Clempson in Florida
State were wanted in the SEC. I just don't think
that's the case right now. And this report that came
out this week, I'm not buying it, not buying it
(01:43:35):
at all. But when the SEC does expand, when they do,
they love tentpole institutions, what the teams that essentially run
the state. And when you look at North Carolina, yeah, okay,
we'll take the tar heels. They don't have anyone in
Virginia right now in the SEC. Let's go get Virginia.
I just don't think you're gonna see Clemson or Florida
(01:43:56):
State in that mix because you already have South Carolina.
In South Carolina, you already have who I don't think
would want to share a conference with the Florida State,
and I think Florida Swing is a big stick in
the SEC. All right, we got Brandon's trio, we got
Mike the Leprechaun on hold, and we've got some fine
I mean, we got a busy final forty minutes.
Speaker 1 (01:44:13):
So let's go. It's a blank show right here on
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:44:26):
All right, here we go, heading down the home stretch
of the Plank Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:44:32):

first show that you have fully produced. Either we can
go straight to Breeze. Three are known as today Brandon's Trio,
Brandon's three, B's three's whatever you want, or we can
get Mike the Leprecaun in and give him the final
word on the phones. It's totally up to you, you
(01:45:18):
know what. We can get Mike the Leprechaun on first.
I think you know he's been waiting. You know, I'm
a man. I sole you respect. I'll wait for my turn. Okay, okay,
Mike the Leprecaun, and you get the last word on
the phones.
Speaker 1 (01:45:31):
What's going on, buddy? Oh no, Mike the Leprechaun? Are
you there?
Speaker 3 (01:45:38):
I am right here.
Speaker 1 (01:45:39):
I'm in my car and you're in your car. Be
careful driving around out there this light.
Speaker 14 (01:45:44):
Oh, I'm in the parking lot.
Speaker 3 (01:45:46):
My teams are upstairs swooping.
Speaker 13 (01:45:48):
And I burned out the battery two days ago, and
even though the car was running. So anyways, I'm tired
because I was up. I'll start with him at the
conference center here at the Great Golf and the carference
center and a concert, and now I'm up like four
hours later. But anyway, I'm fine.
Speaker 3 (01:46:06):
How are you?
Speaker 1 (01:46:07):
I'm good? Hey?
Speaker 2 (01:46:08):
How did it go with the Mallard Paloser for you
last week. I didn't get to listen, actually did great.
Speaker 13 (01:46:13):
I en plus four okay five judges zero zero zero
plus two plus two. I didn't win, but I was
at least.
Speaker 3 (01:46:24):
In the positive territory.
Speaker 1 (01:46:26):
Thank you for asking all good man, I'm happy for you.
Speaker 13 (01:46:30):
I know. Anyway, so everyone takes shot to me. I
have for the most part of kid daughter of trouble here.
I mean the fact that I killed my car battery,
which is a new car.
Speaker 1 (01:46:41):
Was happens?
Speaker 13 (01:46:43):
It does Anyway, I'm down at Cape Card. Have you
ever been to Cape Card?
Speaker 16 (01:46:50):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:46:50):
I have not, I am not.
Speaker 13 (01:46:52):
You're part of it, right, you're part of case.
Speaker 1 (01:46:54):
Of course I've heard of it, of course.
Speaker 3 (01:46:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (01:46:57):
Anyway, so I know all the staff, all the cooks,
all the chefs, all.
Speaker 3 (01:47:03):
The theaters, all everybody.
Speaker 13 (01:47:05):
I brite them all.
Speaker 3 (01:47:06):
I mean, I'll give them all five bucks to get
me out of harm's way.
Speaker 13 (01:47:11):
But Brandon isn't Brand and the Yolka.
Speaker 1 (01:47:15):
Yeah, I'm great, Brand's good.
Speaker 13 (01:47:18):
He's a yoster.
Speaker 1 (01:47:19):
Right, I mean, I would assume so what they called me,
even though I'm twenty six. Yeah that's young.
Speaker 3 (01:47:27):
Yeah, my grandfather do great and real. Thank you brooking?
Speaker 1 (01:47:30):
Yeah, how's your grandchild doing?
Speaker 2 (01:47:32):
By the way, Michael Eprecaun, Hey, what happened to your
Red Sox tonight against the Dodgers?
Speaker 13 (01:47:38):
I didn't who want? I don't even know.
Speaker 1 (01:47:40):
Dodgers won it?
Speaker 3 (01:47:42):
The Badgers.
Speaker 2 (01:47:45):
Of course they're gonna, I mean eventually Dodgers going to
get things right and win the World Series. But I
mean for now, they've got me very angry. But yeah,
the Dodgers won tonight, he said, the Badger the door yards. Yes,
sixty two? Is the finals are five to two? Sorry
it was the final score.
Speaker 13 (01:47:58):
Okay, what are you want tonight?
Speaker 3 (01:48:01):
Again?
Speaker 1 (01:48:01):
No, I'm not.
Speaker 2 (01:48:02):
Thankfully Bernie Fratto was back, so my family gets me back,
which they're very excited about.
Speaker 1 (01:48:07):
But I am not.
Speaker 13 (01:48:08):
Don't let me tell you what I think.
Speaker 3 (01:48:10):
Bernie is very serious.
Speaker 13 (01:48:11):
You have to stick with the three points and you
let me talk to college. Come home. You know what
somebody called me here this week? Mister beans bean? Is that?
Because that's no So somebody call me mister bean, and
somebody call me crocodile, miss Dundee because of all the
(01:48:34):
maloney and the maloney and the maloney, and I'm meeting
fish and chips and Irish.
Speaker 3 (01:48:38):
Have you ever had a full Irish breakfast?
Speaker 5 (01:48:40):
Oh?
Speaker 14 (01:48:41):
I have?
Speaker 1 (01:48:41):
I have good and Irish Goodbye to to do here?
Speaker 3 (01:48:45):
Okay, well you do a thing all right?
Speaker 1 (01:48:48):
All right, thanks for the.
Speaker 2 (01:48:50):
Call, buddy, i'mout the full Irish breakfast. Boy, Mike the Leprechaun.
I respect it, and I know that he's got his detractors,
but I respect it's a hustle. He's he's he's trying
to get his takes out there, and I appreciate it.
All right, let's get Breeze three in here, actually breeze out,
(01:49:10):
but Brandon's in, so let's do that. I think it
still deserves an open, don't you mark, not one, not two.
Speaker 1 (01:49:18):
But three. It's entertainment. It's good. It's Breeze three.
Speaker 2 (01:49:26):
I didn't realize how late we were. The show's just
flown by tonight. Good calls all night long, great topics.
It's literally, I'm not even kidding. It's like you blink
and you look up. You're like, holy smokes, weren't heading
towards our final setting?
Speaker 1 (01:49:39):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:49:39):
So we had a little history in baseball tonight, But Brandon,
what's what's Breeze three look like?
Speaker 1 (01:49:44):
Tonight for you, So.
Speaker 4 (01:49:45):
Breeze three tonight is looking like the best singular performances
from all sports that I may have given you guys
a glimpse of what we were going to be talking
about earlier in the show. But I apologize, Uh, from
just off the top of your head, it doesn't have
to be unique. Three performances that just completely blew you away.
(01:50:06):
And I'll start with the first one here, and I
guess we can go around. I wanted to go with
I think a forgotten performance in Nikolea Jokic's thirty two
point twenty one rebound tennisist Game three against Miami in
twenty twenty three, Like I think, so good. He's so
good at this point, I guess four of the top
six player efficiency rating singular seasons of all time, and
(01:50:28):
just what he's doing is ridiculous. But that finals performance,
that whole playoff run was ridiculous. But I'm still ridiculous,
but better, better and healthier team than I think. We
forget how good he was in twenty twenty three.
Speaker 2 (01:50:39):
I agree, I agree, that's a good one. That's a
good one, all right. What's number two?
Speaker 4 (01:50:43):
Number two has gotta be Luka Doncic's seventy three point game.
Now I want recent memory for the ones that I
don't want to take, you know, Michael Jordan's flu game
or something like.
Speaker 1 (01:50:53):
Also, I didn't see that with my two eyes. You know,
I couldn't.
Speaker 4 (01:50:57):
I could include that, or Bob Gibson coming on against
Denny McClain and dominated in the World Series and was
at sixty nine to seventy.
Speaker 1 (01:51:05):
Also wasn't alive for that.
Speaker 4 (01:51:06):
So we'll go to Luca's seventy three point game last year,
and I mean, I still think it was one of
the more ridiculous things I've seen in a singular game.
The efficiency was off the charts. It's rare you see
a seventy three point game like that and you know
you're still in a Mavericks uniform, which is crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:51:24):
He hasn't had one on the Lakers yet. But we'll see,
maybe we get skinny Luca. We saw today, so he
looked good. He did look good.
Speaker 4 (01:51:30):
I think he looks motivated, which is good for Lakers fans,
including myself.
Speaker 1 (01:51:34):
And you want me to get to three. Get to three.
Speaker 4 (01:51:38):
Three was a tough one, but I'm gonna go Madison
Bumgarner in all of his World Series appearances. Sorry, I'm
cheating a little bit. I'm not gonna pick one.
Speaker 1 (01:51:45):
That's fine. The guy literally was the.
Speaker 4 (01:51:48):
Eli Manning of MLB baseball basically, maybe a little better
in the regular season, but when it came to the
big game, he might be a Hall of Famer just
on those World Series appearances.
Speaker 1 (01:51:58):
Chris, I like that a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:51:59):
Those are the and I like how they're very specific. Right,
NBA doesn't have to be a big time game. Hey,
doesn't have to be a World Series or an NBA
Finals game. All right, Mark, what's your three tonight individual
performances that dropped your jaw?
Speaker 6 (01:52:15):
So I racked my brain just to try to thank
us out the really quick.
Speaker 7 (01:52:18):
So the first thing I thought of that came to mind,
I can write down Doug Williams in the Super Bowl
for the Washington team.
Speaker 6 (01:52:26):
I guess I can't say the other word yet.
Speaker 1 (01:52:27):
Can we not say that? Will we not allow it?
Speaker 7 (01:52:29):
I still like to say Skins, but okay, I don't
get myself in trouble anyway. So Doug Williams super Bowl.
My next one is I only have the two thousand
and five White Sox.
Speaker 1 (01:52:39):
Team to just to carry in on they were awesome.
Speaker 7 (01:52:43):
So it was Game three and Orlando hernandez El Duque.
It was him getting out of the bases loaded seventh inning. Well,
the game three get him getting out of bases loaded jam.
That was a big, big deal because how did he
get you know, no outs and his base floaded and
(01:53:03):
he got out of it.
Speaker 6 (01:53:04):
And my third one is triple Crown Secretariat.
Speaker 1 (01:53:09):
That's oh horse racing on the dock at tonight. I
like it.
Speaker 2 (01:53:14):
The powerful horse. They did it all, did it all
all right? My three quickly here because I know we're
up against it. I went all college football, and you
might notice a little bit of trend. By the way
Doug Williams in that Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (01:53:26):
I looked it up.
Speaker 2 (01:53:27):
Everyone talks about Timmy Smith because he ran for two
hundred and four yards, but Doug Williams eighteen of twenty nine,
three hundred and forty yards, four touchdowns. Unbelievable, unbelievable. And oh,
by the way, they fell behind ten zip in that
game and won at forty two to ten. Shouts out
to the Redskins in their last Super Bowl title. Okay,
(01:53:48):
this is two people, So maybe you look at this
as cheating a little bit, but Brandon, The greatest single
individual offensive show I ever saw in my life was
twenty sixteen home of versus Texas Tech and college football
Baker Mayfield versus Pat Mahomes. Baker talked about it on
the New Heights podcast this week. The teams get this
(01:54:10):
number total yards for Oklahoma eight fifty four total yards
for Texas Tech eight fifty four. Patrick Mahomes in that
game fifty two of eighty eight for seven hundred and
thirty four yards, five touchdowns and an interception. Baker Mayfield
(01:54:31):
twenty seven of thirty six for five hundred and forty
five yards and seven touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (01:54:36):
But do you know who the best player on the
field was that night? It was Joe Mixon.
Speaker 2 (01:54:42):
Thirty one carries, two hundred and sixty three yards, two touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (01:54:47):
The final score was sixty six to fifty nine.
Speaker 2 (01:54:49):
Still, to this day in my life, the greatest college
football game I've ever witnessed in person. Now, if you're
a fan of defensive football, you would vehemently disagree with me,
But on that night, it was amazing.
Speaker 1 (01:55:01):
All right? Number two? Can I stick with Oklahoma this one?
Speaker 2 (01:55:04):
On the negative side, Tavon Austin In twenty twelve, went
Oklahoma be in West Virginia fifty to forty nine. Tavon
Austin carried the ball twenty one times for three hundred
and forty four yards and caught four passes for eighty
two yards. Oh, by the way, he had a kick return.
He had eight kick returns for one hundred and forty
(01:55:24):
six yards. The dude was it was one of the
most incredible individual performances in the history of ever.
Speaker 1 (01:55:30):
Add one more quick one because I know we're up
against it.
Speaker 2 (01:55:34):
Samaj p Ryan four one hundred and twenty seven yards
On November twenty second of two hundred and fourteen, two
hundred and fourteen, twenty fourteen, he carried the ball thirty
four times on a rainy, miserable day. It's set the
FBS record for most rushing yards in a single game
at the time, four hundred and twenty seven yards running
the football in five touchdowns. Do you notice a little
(01:55:55):
bit of a crimson tint to my big stories there,
my big moments.
Speaker 1 (01:55:59):
It's okay. Those were all great games. All Homeer it

bet Mark making sure it's all good.
Speaker 1 (01:57:47):
So great job.
Speaker 2 (01:57:48):
I have a great host with me. Well I appreciate that,
but listen, I am I gotta tell you something. I'm
so fired up for football that I'm I'm worried about
my ability to after this. Like, as soon as this
show is over, you realize the next time that we're
on Fox Sports Radio. Well I shouldn't say that. The
next time we have our Friday night show, we'll have
(01:58:09):
a game to recap. Well, the game to recap. Now,
it's gonna be a game that's gonna suck, but we'll
still have a game to recap.
Speaker 1 (01:58:16):
And I don't know, Jim Harbaugh is kind of a
hard ass.
Speaker 2 (01:58:18):
It wouldn't surprise me at all if, Yeah, we're gonna
have our starters go out there.
Speaker 1 (01:58:21):
But he's also smart and he's no dummy. But you
got the Hall of Fame game on Thursday night. Tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:58:28):
One of the big stories that we haven't talked about
too much because we're all losing our minds about every
little thing that happens with injuries in training camp. And tonight,
Justin Jefferson got hurd at vikings camp. Now, the good
news is it doesn't appear to be severe. It's a
hammy injury, and it's his opposite ham stringed and the
(01:58:49):
one that he heard last year, a couple of years ago.
Speaker 1 (01:58:51):
I should say.
Speaker 2 (01:58:52):
He's been incredibly durable during his career. But I don't
want to talk about Justin Fields based on his injury.
I think he's gonna be fine. I think he'll be
ready to go. I want to talk about Justin Fields
and his theory about how the playoffs should be structured
in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (01:59:06):
Should wild card teams with a better record actually have
home field in the playoffs?
Speaker 8 (01:59:12):
Yes, I mean, especially with you know, the season that
we had last year, and to go, you know, play away.
Speaker 1 (01:59:18):
It definitely was a little different, you know.
Speaker 8 (01:59:21):
Of course, we would have loved to, you know, have
that home feel advantage, of course, and we definitely had
an opportunity to have you know, home feel advantage, you know,
with the.
Speaker 18 (01:59:30):
Last game in Detroit.
Speaker 8 (01:59:32):
But you know, even losing that, we still felt like
we should have had.
Speaker 12 (01:59:36):
Home fill advantage.
Speaker 8 (01:59:37):
But even not have a home full advantage is never
an excuse, So.
Speaker 1 (01:59:43):
Sorry, Justin.
Speaker 2 (01:59:44):
By the way, guys, listen, I don't know who's who
thinks this is a thing. I know it's a big
TV thing. We don't need a beat underneath everyone's take,
So just let him talk, Justin Jefferson, No, we don't
just let him talk. For goodness sakes. He's not wrong,
He's not wrong. This is something I'll push back. I
(02:00:05):
have no problem. I have no problem at all with
letting a team that has a losing record if they
win their division or not a better record than the
wild card team making the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (02:00:16):
But I think if you have the better record, you
should get the home game.
Speaker 2 (02:00:19):
It cost the Vikings last year they lost to the
Rams twenty seven to nine. But again, don't lose that
final game to Detroit. Don't lose that game to Detroit
and you're good to go. I don't disagree with you,
justin Jefferson. I'm glad you gave that clarification, but don't
lose your final game and put yourself in that position.
And who knows, maybe it's a situation where the Vikings
(02:00:41):
made a bit of a run. Instead the Commander is
getting destroyed in the NFC Championship game. Destroyed, y'all, have
a great start to your weekend. The Fellas are coming
up next for Brandon, for Mark, I'm playing. This is
Fox Sports Radio. See you next week.
