Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. It is that
time of week. My name is Bernie Frowner. We are
coming to live from the Fox Sports Radio studios here
in Las Vegas. We will take you up to three
am Pacific, six am Eastern and as usual, an absolute
jam pack show. The NFL is upon us in fine
(00:27):
Feddle and this weekend will certainly, certainly be be remembered
for some notable debuts. One notable debut that probably flew
under the radar for most people happened many many years ago.
A young tight end out of U c. L A
by the name of Tim Reightman was making his NFL
(00:49):
debut for the Chicago Bears against the New York Giants,
and on the first snap of the game, he lined
up the legendary Lawrence Taylor was on the other side
of the ball, and Taylor got up in his grill
and said, Sonny, when the ball is snapped, I'm gonna
(01:10):
go to the right. I'm gonna knock your quarterback on
his butt, put him out of the game, and there's
not a damn thing you can do about it. Tim
Rightman kept his cool. He knew the cadence, he knew
when the ball would be snapped, and just a split
second before the ball was snapped, he looked at Lawrence Taylor.
(01:34):
Tim Wrightman did and said, mister Taylor, is that your
right or my right? Taylor froze momentarily the ball was snapped.
Rightman got off the line of scrimmage, hit Lawrence Taylor
in another region and knocked him on his butt. Taylor
got up, smiled, padded Rightman on the head and said,
(01:55):
not bad kid, not bad. I think of Chadoor Sanders'
performance Friday night. Not bad kid, not bad. I have
no idea if he's going to be a serviceable starter
in the National Football League where he ends up on
(02:15):
the depth chart with Cleveland. You haven't even had a
chance to see Dylan Gabriel play yet, and he's good.
I don't care what the idiots say. Kenny Pickett has
twenty five starts in the National Football League and he's
fifteen to ten. Dog them all you want. I don't
care what the idiots say. He's got twenty five starts
and Joe Flacco's got a Super Bowl ring and he's
(02:37):
gonna be fine. I don't know where this sends up.
But for Friday Night, though, there's one thing that Shudor
Sanders showed that is actually quite important at the position
of quarterback, because he's not a lead athlete. He could
run a little, but he's not speedy. He's got a
(02:58):
good arm, not a great arm. He's accurate sometimes, but
he showed a lot of moxie, he showed a lot
of experience, looked like a guy who'd started fifty games
in college. And what I noticed most was his preparation.
There's not a dot in my mind. He knew that playbook,
he'd studied, he'd put in the time, There's no two
(03:18):
ways about it. And frankly, I already like him more
than I ever liked Trey Lance. I like him more
than I ever liked Lanthony Richardson. I like him more
than I like Justin Fields. Do with that what you will,
and I'll tell you why, because even though the three
or four mentioned names are considered elite athletes and prospects,
and we're all first round picks, they don't play the
(03:41):
game from the neck up anywhere near to what I
saw with Shud'or Sanders on Friday Night. You see You've
probably heard me say it a thousand times, so what's
one more. We already know that the quarterback position in
the NFL is the thinnest in all the sports. It's
his is any position in the world, You've got to
(04:02):
combine intellectual ability. You've got to adapt in an instant.
You've got to have physical attributes that you can evade
large defenders. Those guys are big and they run like
track stars. And you've got to have some emotional stability
and poise. Sanders grew up in a major league household.
He's absorbed that nothing is more important for the position
to quarterback than recognition. You've got to make pre snap reeds,
(04:26):
process coverages. Quarterback is a position you play with your eyes.
You receive the ball, you make your post snap reeds,
and it' see who they match up with and how
they match up on your pre snap observations, and then
you have less than two seconds to execute. I don't
care how fast you run, how high you can jump,
or if you can throw a ball further than Uncle Rico.
(04:48):
You can't hold on to the damn ball. You have
to get it out of your hand. To do that.
That requires recognition for the most part, your door did that.
He made three tight window throws that were impressive, and
he made four that weren't so impressive. And that's why
it wasn't a first round draft choice. But that doesn't
mean he can't go on to have a cur in
(05:08):
the NFL. But let's relax just a little bit. I
got to admit I got a little nauseating every time.
Here's how the play sounded. Shout order drops back, play action,
rolling right, six yard pass and a swing pass. Oh
my god, look at the touch on that ball. Did
you see that out? Oh my god, look at this
(05:28):
should order drops back stop route eight yard game. Oh
my god, did you see Jackson Dart today? He had
thirty reps and had more production. He was twelve of
eighteen four one hundred and fifty four yards, ran for
twenty five yards. Where was the inglorious craziness on that?
But I don't want to take anything away from shud
Door Sanders. I want to get back to my point
(05:48):
because if you need to play, to move your feet,
to keep a play alive, you have to keep your
eyes down field, which shud Door Sanders did and he
did that. Take note, also, you're reading the field. You're
seeing the field from what I saw he sees the field.
If the defense is manned a man, that could be
(06:09):
a green light to run north and south since the
defensive backs are facing away from you, well except for
the safety, but he's thirty yards away. If the defense
is a zone roll latterly, give your receivers a chance
to send it. Just their rafts get open, create a
positive play. He did both. Sanders did both. To be fair,
The truth of the matter is playing quarterback in the
(06:31):
National Football League is mostly between the years and can
you operate in the pocket? I thought I saw that
It's about recognition and reaction shoot or Sanders, for my money,
saw that in an exhibition game against players many, with
all due respect, will be working at NAP Auto Parts
(06:53):
next month. But that doesn't matter. Don't take anything away
from him. He can only play. The team that gets
off the bus have chances. In the future, I'll I
will be curious to see how he handles blitzes because
he's not going to get away with that drifting like
he did on that on that play, and it might
have been the first or second series where he almost
took a fifteen to twenty yard loss, but got the
(07:14):
ball out of his hands, so it was fun to watch.
Too much as being made of it. Let's be honest, Okay,
I don't. I'm not gonna give a litany of guys
who looked like they were all world and made the
NFL Preseason Hall of Fame and didn't amount much. You know,
Action Gent carried the ball three times for one yard
or negative one yard. If if you just came down
(07:35):
from Mars, you might think Shudor was the third pick
overall and genty he was in the fifth round. So
let's not go too crazy. It was a debut. Give
the man his due. He was prepared, he knew the playbook,
he had some command of the offense. We'll see where
it goes from here. But you know, the slate of
preseason Action had lots of debuts that were worth paying
(07:58):
attention to, and we're going to get to I just
mentioned Jackson Dart, cam Or, Travis Cuenter, JJ McCarthy. By
the way, I don't you've heard it a thousand times,
but are you serious? Somebody named cam Little kicked a
seventy yard field goal. I guess it doesn't count in
the record books, but I also think we're burying the lead.
(08:18):
This kid kicked four field goals for like a total
of two hundred and twelve yards and field goals. Four
field goals on the night. All were over forty yards,
two were over fifty, including a fifty two yard in
the fourth quarter. But the seventy yarder is one that
would be remembered for a long time, even if it
was only a preseason game. See preseason games matter, but
(08:38):
they don't count. Note that you know your future votes
for Shudor Sanders into the Hall of Fame, which he
may be. You know he may wear a yellow jacket someday,
but you can't base it on one night a guy
who will wear a yellow jacket someday. Patrick Mahomes needed
only one pass the show. He's ready now, Andy Reid,
(08:59):
he's old school. He always plays his starters in preseason games.
He's been doing it since what nineteen ninety eight, So
you near Mahomes and the Chiefs first team offense would
get some snaps in Week one, but he just needed
one pass. Reid pull would be threw a one yard
touchdown pass to Jason Brownlee in the first minute of
the game because he Niners botched the opening kickoff to
(09:20):
give the Chiefs very good field position. Mahomes only played
three snaps got pulled from the game, but based on
a very nice backshoulder throw to Brownlee, Mahomes looks a
midseason four him. By the way, not to channel Nick Wright,
which I have no intention of doing. I think reports
of the Chief's potential devise this year are greatly exaggerated.
(09:43):
They're gonna make some serious noise again. Watch out for
the Chiefs. Cam Ward the number one pick overall. He
only played two series in his NFL debut, but he
did look like the number one overall pick. In the
second series for the Titans, he got some good line protection.
He threw a deep pass over the middle Calvin Ridley,
followed by a ten yard and completion yard are ten
(10:04):
to thirteen yard completion to Ridley and really showed he
could get open as the number one wide out. He
went five for six for fifty seven yards in a
scoring drive. And you know, shoot Door almost threw a
couple of picks too. Cam almost threw a pick, but
the protection was good. Ward looked very comfortable in the pocket.
And if I only have one complaint, and this is
not a complaint. It's a reality shooting. He threw for
(10:27):
one hundred and five yards one hundred and three yards
and nineteen attempts or whatever it was. It's only about
five five and a half six yards per completion. That's
not good. You want to be up about nine. That's
not his fault. They didn't let him do a lot.
We'll see if they let him do more. Another debut.
Who they did let do a lot, Travis Hunter. He
played nineteen snaps and debuted at two positions, wide receiver
(10:49):
and cornerback. The snaps were kind of distributed. He played
eleven snaps on offense. He had two catches for nine yards,
but he was only targeted twice. Played eight snaps on defense,
wasn't targeted. His side of the field wasn't targeted at all.
It's pretty obvious the Jags are going to find a
way to use Travis Hunter on both sides of the ball.
Back to Jackson Dart now look Brian Dablin. The coaching
(11:12):
staff have to be very impressed with Dark's preseason debut.
In his first series, he showed off a realarm, big
time arm that got him selected in the first round.
A deep pass down the left side till the Jordan
Humphrey for a touchdown. That's the one thing i'd eldct
to have seen more of a vertical game. Wasn't shoot
or refault. They didn't let him do it. But I
got to see that. I gotta see how he handles
the blitz. But again he was prepared. Dart had a
(11:35):
very strong debut. Okay, so that Russell Wilson. It was
in bad twelve to nineteen for a buck fifty four.
Giants will be patient with Dart, but he's already had
a very strong rookie camp and he's going to be
their future. Speaking of futures, JJ McCarthy from Michigan returned
played his first preseason game of the Vikes, one year
after turing his meniscus and missing all of his rookie season.
(11:58):
He got the start in the Vikings preseason opener three
consecutive throws to Jordan Addison two consecutive actually five and
ten yards. The offensive line, to be honest, forced McCarthy
out of the pocket several times, causing him to get
rid of the ball and making some forced throws, but
in just one series he was four to seven for
thirty yards and had a first down run for eight yards.
(12:22):
McCarthy needs more work, he needs to get more reps,
but he did not look like a deer in the
headlines at all. By the way, let's give it up
to another one of Dion's kids. Shiloh Sanders was an
undrafted a free agent with the I believe he's playing
for Tampa Bay Bucks. He actually had a nice tackle
(12:43):
on Brandon Allen in the Bucks Titans game. He's the
older brother of Shador, who's twenty three years old. I
think Shiloh's twenty four. He's gonna have a hard time
making the team, but he might. He's had a pretty
strong showing this summer. Weekend of debuts, a weekend of conversations,
a week of speculation, hyperbole, excitement, perhaps overreaction. Let's see
(13:08):
how Cleveland does next Saturday. I think they visit Philadelphia.
I don't know if Joe Flacco's going to get any reps.
But as far as the hamstring issues the other quarterbacks have,
what do you want to bet they all have a
miracle recovery and they're back on the field Monday. That's
the way it's going to roll. By the way, if

six am Eastern. It's welcome and a gentleman, good friend
of mine, longtime NFL insider, been up and back and

Speaker 6 (15:28):
How are you, Bernie?
Speaker 7 (15:29):
I am doing well. Think it's always a pleasure to
be on with you.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
And thank you. We get a lot to cover. I
guess I'll just start with the elephant in the room.
Ever so quickly, I'll give us your thoughts on Shudor Sanders' debut.
Speaker 7 (15:43):
But you know, I thought it was pretty impressive.
Speaker 8 (15:45):
Yeah, Look, I don't get overly.
Speaker 7 (15:46):
Excited on a preseason performance. That's the reality of it.
But here for me, should Door's performance really what he
did on the field this week is not indicative in
terms of where I thought he was good or bad.
I thought he was a solid prospect coming into the draft.
The one question mark I had about him the two
question marks, so with arm strength and physically could he
(16:07):
withstand the hitting the hits in the NFL? And now
it's reduced over the last five to ten years, And
thought as that was, you know when his dad played.
But I think, you know, this kid's got a mental talent.
I think if he can kind of rain himself in,
I think he's got an opportunity to be a really
good product for the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Do you think he creeps up on the depth chart
because you know, Dylan Gabriel hasn't gotten his chance yet.
I'm very high Dylan Gabriel and he still got two
other quarterbacks who've already won games in the National Football League.
What do you think she'd do her int up for
the depth chart?
Speaker 7 (16:39):
Yeah, it's hard to say, but I'm going to tell you, Bernie,
I slightly.
Speaker 8 (16:42):
Disagree with you.
Speaker 7 (16:43):
On Dylan Gabriel. I thought Dylan was a really, really
good college quarterback. I just don't see it necessarily translating
to the NFL level from his perspective. You know, can
you pickets the guy? I think he's been there, done that.
He's not the franchise for the Cleveland Browns. Joe Flacco
obviously he's on his last legs. So I think if
(17:04):
you're the Browns, depending on how you're approaching this season,
do you believe Arch Manning is going to be that
guy that it turns into the number one pick. If
you do, then there's a strong possibility that you're almost
looking at I don't want to suggest or imply tanking,
but that's more of a fun office thing than it
is from players. But I think you're the Browns. He
drafted Sduor Sanders, and I think you have an opportunity
to get a steal in the draft for the next
(17:26):
what four years, because you're on that rookie scale. Let's
see what he can do. I like his talent. I
think he's got an opportunity, but I think it's wide
open in Cleveland.
Speaker 8 (17:36):
I don't think you.
Speaker 7 (17:37):
Can call anybody as the guy that Hey is safely
and Trump as a starter in Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Fair enough, interesting because I'm fairly certain that it's going
to be Joe Flacco. But let's just see what happens,
all right. I want to go to the I want
to go to Chicago. You know, I've still got my
contact with the Lions. I'm very familiar with Ben Johnson's
coaching style, and with all due respect to Caleb Williams,
there's a guy who's a lot of physical talent, but
(18:05):
not only has his style that enabled I'm not sure
if he can break out of the mold of being
a playground quarterback and improvisational guy, and that's not going
to fly with Ben Johnson. And he's kind of got
a short fuse. My belief is there's going to be
a collision course there. What are your thoughts on Caleb Williams,
Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears.
Speaker 7 (18:25):
Look, I thought Caleb Williams is a really good college player.
But I thought what you saw in this last year
USC was maybe more of than Norman than what you
saw the first year in Norman, and even potential, you
know in the second year. I tend to agree with
you on the Ben Johnson situation. I think Ben Johnson
is going to be like, at the end of the day,
it's not the guy that I drafted. And I think
(18:46):
one problem that guys like Caleb Williams runs into, maybe
even justin field. Some of the other guys are incredibly
athletic and have been able to keep plays alive at
the high school and even the collegiate level. They got
to realize pretty quick in the NFL sometimes, Bernie, the
best throw is one to the sideline, to the strength
coach on your sideline and live to see second or
third or fourth time. And I think Caleb sometimes gets
(19:08):
into that where you know, he was used to being
the best player at Gonzaga Prep in the DC area
in college and being able to make those plays by
keeping them alive. In the NFL, everyone can run. Everyone's athletic,
they can do it all. And if you don't realize
sometimes you've got to make a quick decision, that's map decision.
It's going to come back to burn you. And we
(19:29):
saw that several times last year where he held on
the ball too long, end up in second and third
and the fourth and long situations.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
No, it's very true. Talking with them all show a
long time a mall Shaw, a longtime NFL insider. While
let's go to New York. Justin Fields is fourteen and
thirty as a starter. He's in his third team in
three years. Your thoughts on does that have a chance
to work out with Aaron Glenn and the New York
Jets in the in what I think is a pretty
(19:57):
tough AFC East.
Speaker 7 (20:00):
I agree in terms of the AFC East. The big
thing for me with Justin Fields is I have some
hesitation and concern on his ability to throw the kind
of the timing routes. Look, when he gets time, he
can throw a beautiful deep ball, but it just seems
like his ability to go through progressions has always been
a challenge for him. He still has that great athleticism.
This is a guy at one time at Ohio State
(20:21):
with the fastest player on the team. So the seed
is there at the quarterback position to make plays. He's
got a thousand yard season in the NFL. I believe
in the regular season as the NFL record for most rushing.
Speaker 8 (20:31):
Yards in a game by a quarterback.
Speaker 7 (20:33):
He can make some play if the Jets can rely
on their defense run the football and then he makes
those timely throws to Wilson, to some of the other
guys in their receiving corps at the right time. I
think he's got a chance to be pretty decent. I'm
not sure, but I feel like this is kind of
last chance to loot for him.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Am all, let's the third city in which all as
will be on and we're already being force fed headlines.
Is Aaron Rodgers and Pittsburgh not maybe in the minority,
but actually think Pittsburgh wins ten games and they go
to the playoffs again. How do you think that works
out with Aaron Rodgers and Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (21:09):
See, here's the thing.
Speaker 7 (21:10):
I first of all, burning target bet against Mike Tomlin, right,
I mean, all he does at least get the five hundred,
if not better every year. I mean he's never had
a leading season, so you know, the track record is
incredibly proven. You know, you've got two guys. I don't
know people are looking at this, but TJ. Watt and
potentially Cam Hayward. These are two guys that are potentially
both going to land in Canton. I mean, Cam Hayward's
(21:32):
got to think five all posts to his name. Now,
he's got a legitimate shot to get there. They've been
defensive minded.
Speaker 9 (21:39):
I think this is a team.
Speaker 7 (21:40):
That can rely on that then don't make mistakes. And
I don't know maybe what the situation was in New York,
whether it was a situation with the head coach and
Rogers or whatever, but I feel like he's gonna have
a lot more respect for Tomlin. Rogers still has some talent.
He's still one of the most accurate passors I've ever
seen in the history of the NFL. I think he
(22:00):
makes a difference in a certain situations. The thing for
me is can he make sure he stays on the reservation.
Does it become about Aaron Rodgers or is it about
the Pittsburgh Steeers. It's about the Pittsburgh Steelers. I think
the team could.
Speaker 5 (22:12):
Surprise a lot of people.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
No, that's always the conundrum, exactly right. This is one
year I actually feel that he is going to be
in a straight and narrow for multiple reasons. It's maybe
his last year. All right, let's come to our hometown
here in Las Vegas, where we both live. Look. I
have tremendous respect for the Raiders as a brand. They're
(22:34):
iconic or historic. They've won three Super Bowls, but they're
living in the past in my humble opinion.
Speaker 8 (22:40):
And I.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Something metaphorically happened Thursday night when they were leaving the field,
and I guess Max Crosby and Gino Smith both gave
the you know, the one finger piece signed to the
fans as they were leaving the field. That just to
me underscoes a culture that they just can't escape from,
along with the penalties, the dumb plays, the blown assignments.
(23:04):
I haven't fired on it, but I would tend to
lean under Raiders wins this year.
Speaker 7 (23:09):
Your thoughts, well, you bring up two excellent points. Let's
get to the win total first, I would agree with you.
I don't have their season win total in front of me,
but I'm guessing it's probably about seven and a half exact.
And so I think this team you look towards the
under They're in a very competitive division Chargers, Broncos and
Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 8 (23:29):
But beyond that, I thought you brought.
Speaker 7 (23:30):
Up an excellent point. I think this point really needs
to be looked at. Gino Smith and Max Crosby are
your two best players. I don't know if Gino Smith
is your best offensive player. Fine, if you want to
go with somebody on the old line or whatever it
may be.
Speaker 10 (23:45):
Yeah, but.
Speaker 7 (23:48):
The reality of it is Geno Smith and Max Krosby
are the two most visible players, and in the NFL,
when you're a quarterback making forty million dollars a year,
you can't be given the single gun salute to the
crowd in the city you played. That just looks tuvenile.
That looks like some high school type of thing. When
you're playing a you know, one of your competitors and
you're walking off the field and you're doing that, it's
just ridiculous. I'm sorry. If you're the Raiders, you put
(24:10):
you know, Smith a round to the side, you say, listen,
if I ever see that ever again, you're not gonna
play another down for this team. And I'm gonna promise
you're not gonna make any of your damn money. Like
I just thought that was completely unacceptable. You don't have
to be a Mahomes fan. You don't have to be
a fan of Josh Allen or any of these other guys.
Jalen Hurts, these three. You're not gonna see these three
(24:32):
guys doing that on the way off the field.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
No, it's just It's a bad look for anybody, but
for the Raiders it seems to have just an extra
dimension when you consider they're trying to climb up out
of the dul drooms after two decades of struggling. Right,
there's still an iconic brand, but they're just not what
they were all right them all every year there are
(24:57):
teams that truly surprise. I've got my eye on Arizona
and maybe New England. What are your thoughts on teams
that when people aren't talking about right now, that they'd
be talking about in November?
Speaker 7 (25:10):
Well, I thought you hit a problem one that I
was looking at, which was the New England Patriots. I
like Drake may we saw Trey and Henderson have the
kickoff return. But I'll tell you was I think Mike
Rabel If you look at Brabell. I followed Rabel's career
closely because him and I were the same year in
high school. He played in the Cleveland area where I'm from,
A tremendous player, went to Ohio State at a good career.
(25:32):
I would have never guessed Rabel was the guy. When
you look at Am and Luke Fickle, who coaches at Wisconsin,
among other players, that would have wound up with that,
you know, double digit NFL career in terms of length
with the Steelers and the Patriots. But to bring the
toughness in the Tanaki, I think.
Speaker 5 (25:48):
The team will embody and I think.
Speaker 7 (25:50):
They won't get beaten situations like they did last year.
And listen, we all know Belichick's in a great coach.
But one thing I've always sid about Belichick, he didn't
win a lot without Tom Ready. As to the starting quarterback,
I go through five years in Cleveland, the numbers are there.
He made the playoffs once five years in Cleveland. What
did he do in Newland when Brady wasn't the starting quarterback?
I think Rabel just bring.
Speaker 8 (26:12):
A football toughness.
Speaker 7 (26:13):
He's, you know, here minding a little bit Jerry Sloan
in the NBA. Jerry Sloan is the kind of guy
that would fight his own player in essence, right, Rabel's
the kind of guy that if a guy's on the line,
that you know he gives a look back, Raviel's not
going to back down. And I think that'll be good.
I like them in the NFC, excuse me, in the AFC,
And then I think a team that's going to surprise
you negatively. In the NFC are the Dallas Cowboys. I
(26:37):
am not sold on this team. I'm not sold on
Dak Prescott. I think Seelamb's a very good receiver. I'm
not quite as high on him as the top three,
top five receivers everyone else is. I think Dallas got
a lot of question marks. I don't like this team,
so for me, some question marks Arizona. I would agree
with you if I could believe Kyler Murray could give
some consistency.
Speaker 8 (26:57):
You know, you saw the interception through tonight.
Speaker 7 (26:59):
I did't get as one pack, but that to me
is Kyler Murray in a nutshell eight to nine out
of seventeen games in the season.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
No, you're not wrong. He needs to have a bust
out year. But I got a lot of faith in
Jonathan Gannon and that team really played hard last year.
They were a cover mass they did. Speaking of that,
the Raiders, I believe they were catching four four and
a half. That lines down to three Week one at
New England. Could do you think there's some value in
the Raiders? There's a dog Week one?
Speaker 10 (27:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (27:28):
I think so.
Speaker 7 (27:28):
You you got a little bit more of an experienced
quarterback and I'll tell you one thing. This is kind
of not a fair comparison.
Speaker 9 (27:36):
But I'll tell you Pete Carroll to.
Speaker 7 (27:39):
Me in college and even with the with the Seahawks
was one of the best coaches like Andy Reid, as
we know off the bye week in the NFL. It
was one of those great coaches to bet on when
time to prepare Week one, I think I'll have a
team fired up. I love Pete's energy. Look, I'm a
huge Pete Carroll guy, have been since his days with
the with the Trojans. But I think part of it is,
(28:00):
you know, if you if you're the Raiders, maybe you
should have gone a little bit younger, bringing some new
blood into the organization. And I think the thing with
te that it keeps a relaxed atmosphere around there, which
is good for most of the most things. But I
also feel like it reflect upon what we saw on
the field against Seattle. We talked about Max Crosby and
Gino Smith, and I thought you bought up an excellent point.
You've got to change the culture if you're if you're
(28:23):
a team that expects to win, expect to have hatred
when you go on the road.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
A right you're wrapping it up with the mall Shaw,
a long time NFL insider. I want to talk about
the Chiefs because I think rumors or their deminiers are
greatly exaggerated. I think the Chiefs are going to be
right there. Again. Uh, Denver may win that division. I'm
not sure, but I think people who go to sleep
on the Chiefs are going to be a little surprised.
(28:48):
I think they're going to come back with a fire
in their belly. Am I wrong?
Speaker 11 (28:51):
No?
Speaker 7 (28:51):
First of all, I want to say, I want to
address something about people picking Denver and all these other teams.
Show me your betting tickets for some real money. If
you're going to tell you something, No, Bernie, I'm gonna
tell you what everybody likes to you. Just take that
random team.
Speaker 8 (29:04):
That they pick.
Speaker 12 (29:06):
But here's the problem.
Speaker 7 (29:07):
There's no ramifications in the media when you're wrong. But
if you make it as a best then I respect it.
But if you just sit there and throwing dark to
the board and you hit one out of four, congratulations
all I told you the Bronco's gonna win. But if
they're wrong, nobody's gonna say I'd come back and say
I told you So here's the bottom line. Unless I
missed something in the last forty eight hour news cycle,
did Andy Reid retire to kip Patrick.
Speaker 6 (29:29):
Mahomes retire, Not that I can tell.
Speaker 8 (29:33):
Okay, then I'm.
Speaker 7 (29:34):
Still sticking with that team.
Speaker 8 (29:36):
That's the Chiefs.
Speaker 7 (29:38):
The bottom line is, Look, Sean Payton's a nice coach.
He's done a nice job.
Speaker 8 (29:42):
But you know when Andy Reid, this guy.
Speaker 7 (29:44):
If he sticks around, and I believe he's going to
stick around to the end of Pat mahomes career and
then he'll walk away. I think they'll eventually walk away together.
Speaker 9 (29:50):
Andy Reid is going to go.
Speaker 7 (29:51):
Down as the winning his coach in the history of
the National Football League. Yeah, and I'm telling you, I
think Travis Kelsey's got a lot to prove this year.
I think they've got a good guy on the primim
I wasn't as high and worthy, but at times he's
shown some real flashes. His team has been good defensively
under Stagnola. You know, Chris Jones is still one of
the top defensive players in the NFL. The kid George
(30:13):
Carloftis has been pretty good at times. Don't count the
demise of the Chiefs right now, I know a lot
of people want to pick against them. They're kind of
you to take the Patriots. We have Chiefs fatigue right
now in sports. But the reality of it is, for
my money, the best non quarterback player in the National
Football League is Justin Jefferson. But I'm going to tell
you the best player in the NFL is still Patrick Malmes.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
You're You're not wrong. Who do you want the ball?
Whose hand do you want the ball in if your
life's on the line with a minute to go in
the game, Because he He's been there, done that. He
you know, he performs magic. Last thing, the the Philadelphia
Eagles I thought were impressive and they even got well look,
(30:57):
let's just put it this way. We haven't had a
repeat Super Bowl in a while. Do the Eagles repeat?
Speaker 7 (31:05):
I think they have a great shot at repeating because
when I look at the NFC, I don't think it's
that difficult of a path for them to get through.
I'm not really Look, Washington was a very good team
last year, but remember there were benefactors of playing the
weaker schedule because of the record the previous year with
the second worst record in the NFL. I think they
(31:25):
benefit from those types of situation. I think the Commanders
will have a little bit of a challenge this year.
I really like this Seagles team. I'm going to tell
you I was not high on Jalen Hurts coming out.
I watched him. I pretty much watched Jalen Hurts every
stamp of his career. Bernie, I had the best call
of my life at halftime. I was ont Withnie Brent
Musberger at halftime in the Alabama Georgia DI I could
(31:46):
put Tua in Okay all of my life, but here
at the bottom line, Jalen Hurts is showing he can
throw the ball with the actorsacy and makes the right play.
And I got to tell you, if I have a
team in the NFL that I rooted for and I
and I want to start in quarterback, yeah, you're taking
them a home with Josh Allenson. From a talent standpoint,
but from a disposition standpoint, there's not a single quarterback
(32:09):
I want more than Jalen Hurts. This guy is so calm,
cool and collected regardless of the situation.
Speaker 10 (32:16):
He listen.
Speaker 7 (32:17):
He's calmer than his coach.
Speaker 8 (32:19):
I think his coaches had to tone it.
Speaker 7 (32:20):
Down a level because he realized his quarterback looks much
better when he's much younger than him. Jalen Hurts, his
disposition playing with the team and the talent that they have.
I think the Eagles in a great position to get
back and win this thing.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
And I got to tell you a great, great pull
on the situation when you know he had he was
yanked for for Tua in that championship game. He handled
it like a man the way he get acted to
that and then ended up transferring to Oklahoma, and he
has made himself into a very serviceable passer feel general.
(32:54):
And the thing about the Eagles, you know, it's like
the Georgia Bulldogs Reunion on defense, but they get after.
Football's played in three phases and h is certainly Jalen
Hurts does his part, but man, Philly can beat you
a lot of different ways. They got a lot of weapons.
I'm all great stuff. As always, we got to get
you on again, and good luck Bud on the upcoming season.
Speaker 7 (33:15):
Bernie, thank you so much, appreciate it anytime.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
Thank you. That's Amal Shaw, longtime NFL in Saturday. By

We're nineteen minutes away from where I sit. It's midnight
in Las Vegas. From where you sit, perhaps the same,
but it's midnight literally and figuratively everywhere. Because you're going
to get the last word. Three topics tonight and the
midnight hour, the most boring conversations when we all agree,
(34:00):
and I've got a couple topics here that we should
have plenty of disagreement. Get your fingers ready. Eight seven
seven nine nine six six three six nine eight seven
seven ninety nine On Fox. I'm Bernie Frattle. We are
coming to your line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Don't go away. You're listening to the Bernie
Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, back in
the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio, coming to you
(34:23):
live from the Las Vegas studios. We are twelve minutes
away from the midnight hour. You know the drill. Eight
seven seven nine nine, six, six, three, six, nine, eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox. The callers are what make
this hour so special. We like the difference of opinions.
(34:44):
Nobody holds back, so let's dive in. We I wasn't
gonna do this, but in light of his performance, which
is being talked about from mattis Abbaazanzibar Shidor Sanders is
in very much of the news, even got in Tony
Grocer's face in Cleveland. He says, how can we never
write anything good about me? And I think it ended
up amicably, but they covered you know, it checked every box.
(35:07):
And so my question to you tonight is Schudor Sanders,
do you now look at him as a guy who
might actually find his way into the starting lineup at
some point in Cleveland? Or hey, let's just pump the brakes.
It was a freaking preseason game. There are plenty of
other guys that had good debuts and it's only one game.
(35:31):
Let's see what he does from here. Or you have
some other thought. But I know everybody has some thought
on shoot Orf Sanders. Frank There's only two types of
people in the world. I think those who are rooting
for shoot or Sanders and those who are rooting against him.
You know who are. You're out there and I don't care.
You can call my show. Actually I'm neither. I don't
care what, but I root for the story. The story
(35:53):
would be that he finds his way into the lineup
and wins games. That would be the story. If he
washes out, just another story for the Naked City. There's
nothing different there, So give it. Give me your honest thoughts,
objective thoughts on shoot Or's hands, or they can be subjective.
He got himself a heck of an opportunity. He made
the most of his opportunity. He did some good things,
(36:15):
and he did some things that were okay. But again
I thought he showed preparations to give me your thoughts
on on your door. Secondly, you know all these past
years Jerry Jones has lolly gagged around, and then you know,
Emitt Smith got signed, and Ceedee Lamb got signed, and
Michael Irvin got signed, and you know now it's Michael Parsons,
(36:39):
and Parsons is supposed to make what twenty four million
this year?
Speaker 8 (36:45):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (36:46):
You know, but you know Max Crosby's making thirty five
thirty six miles Garrett forty million, Nick Bolsa there he
wants to get paid, and it seems like every year
Jerry does this. We don't know why. Maybe he likes
to hold onto his money. Maybe he's afraid. You see
what happened with Sean Slater. I'll talked about this last week.
(37:06):
Maybe Jerry's got this thing where he's a little paranoid
that if he pays the guy that gets hurt with
Sean Slater. Just seven days before he towards ACL had
signed one hundred and fourteen million dollars extension. Terrible news
for the Chargers. I don't know what makes Jerry tick.
This one's different though. I thought we'd get to the
last minute like Dak did. But there's two key differences.
(37:27):
Jerry I'm hearing allegedly try to negotiate with Dak on
the sly and Jack Dak shut it down, said, call
my agent. Michael Parsons is a nice guy, and he
got sucked into the conversation. They might have even talked
money for all I know. And now the agent is look,
the bottom line, is this the way this is going?
(37:49):
It feels like the Cowboys will be without Michael Parsons
through at least week one due to his unmet demands,
which recently included the trade request, which I thought was
not good for him. But that's his business. I like
Michael Parsons. So here's the question. You may think this
is a crazy question, but who side are you on? Here?
Are you on Michael parsons side? I mean the Cobleys
(38:11):
don't win? Or are you on Jerry's side saying, hey,
it's his team. He can do what the hell he wants.
He's the king. It's good to be the king. He's,
you know, got this ten billion dollar business he presides
over and he can do what he wants. Whose side
are you on? You can't. It doesn't feel like he's
(38:32):
gotten his money for paying Dak at least so far.
I'm not taking sides. I just get a kick out
of watching this because I like Michael Parsons. But his
shorts aren't clean here either, and I think he could
have gone about this a little differently. So we've got
shador Sanders. Give me your thoughts based on what you
saw Friday night and how that might look going forward.
(38:53):
Is anybody on Jerry Jones' side? I want to hear
from me. If not, there's no shortage of Jerry Jones haters.
I get that, but the opposite the love is not hate.
It some indifference. People have to be invested enough to
not like like Jerry Jones. That's the second question. The
third question is I've been I kind of do this
every year. So the Buffalo Bills are on Hard Knocks.
I don't know if you watched it the season you
(39:16):
know premiere the other night. Easily the most boring Hard
Knocks I've ever seen. I don't really give a damn
about guys go and getting ice cream Sundays and talking stupid.
Come on, man, But here's the question. Did you know
that no team featured on Hard Knocks has ever won
a Super Bowl. As a matter of fact, the team
that got the closest was the New York Jets, quartered
(39:36):
by a quarterback by Mark Sanchez, and they actually got
to the AFC Championship game they year, but didn't even
get to the Super Bowl. So no team on Hard
Knocks has ever made it to the Super Bowl. Is
there really a Hard Knocks curse? Some people think there
is matter like the old Sports Illustrated curse. Ei there
a Hard Knocks curse? Or could Buffalo break that curse
(39:57):
this year. So these are our three topics should say
based on his performance Friday night. Okay, he's one shot, deal, Hey,
he might win the job. Your thoughts, we had it wrong?
Blah blah blah, you know where to go. Number two
Jerry Jones versus Michael Parsons. Whose side are you on?
Take a side? Tell me why? In three the Buffalo
Bills are on hard knocks. There has never been a
(40:18):
team on hard knocks that even made it to a
Super Bowl, much less one one, eight, seven, seven, nine,
nine six six three six nine, eight, seven, seven, Night
and nine on Fox down him up. It's time the
Bernie Fraddle Show, the midnight hour and Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
Door Listen. Hey no, Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
Yup, that's right, you heard the man. Bernie Fraddles show
keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Frowdle. We're
come to your line from the Fox Sports Radio studios
here in Las Vegas, just getting started to take up
to three and Pacific six a m. Eastern. And we've
got three good topics. All right, you saw your door
Friday night. Give me your thoughts. He's got a shot
(40:59):
to start. Will he make the team. It's one game,
you know, take a chill pill, just give you your
what your reaction was Jerry versus Michael Parsons. This one's
getting a little ugly, and I got some receiapts. I'll
bring a little later. Pick aside, who sad are you
on here? And I you know, I think most people
are gonna be on Parsons side, but some people can
(41:20):
be on Jerry's side as well. We'll have to see.
And then the Buffalo Bills are on hard knocks. You know,
there's never been a team in the history of hard
knocks who made the Super Bowl much less wanted. Could
Buffalo break that? Whereas in fact they're a hard knocks curse?
Speaker 5 (41:34):
You got it?
Speaker 2 (41:34):
Eight seven, seven, nine, nine, six six three sixty nine.
Doll him up. It's to bed that hour, all right.
We go to the Great Commonwealth of Massachusetts where Jim
leads us off. Jimmy and like Ricky Henderson, reliable. Good
to hear from you, buddy. What do you got for
us tonight?
Speaker 7 (41:48):
Well?
Speaker 6 (41:48):
I think Chudul will do okay. You know, he's he's
got matured, got a mature a little bit, and I
think he'll make the team. But where he goes from
there is uh in his own mind. You know, if
you want it, you got to you gotta play for
it and go all in. You just can't do all
the stuff outside of football, you know. So if he
(42:12):
does that, I think he'll be okay.
Speaker 8 (42:14):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (42:14):
As far as.
Speaker 6 (42:15):
What's going on in Dallas, that's just a joke that's
been going on since Emma Smith and all the rest
of them players fight with Jerry and stuff like that.
It's like, who really cares if they win five games?
They're lucky, you know. I mean but in Jerry's defense though,
I mean, America is a great country because you can
have an IQ of a house plan become a billionaire,
(42:37):
you know.
Speaker 5 (42:37):
So yeah, I mean.
Speaker 6 (42:41):
America a lot of country. You gotta love it, you know.
And what was the last one again, Well.
Speaker 2 (42:45):
The Buffalo Bills and hard Knocks.
Speaker 6 (42:47):
There's never been that hot knocks that it's such a
such the stupidest thing. I can't believe they even got
involved in that unless they get paid to do that.
All the players or the or the team or the
franchise or something. But that's a put a thing that's
on TV used to be really good.
Speaker 2 (43:03):
Did you see the episode, the opening episode the other night,
Oh my god, I wanted to kill myself with the chainsaw.
Was so boring. It was really it was there. I
mean there was a they stretched it out with nothing
topics and nothing kind of there you go.
Speaker 13 (43:19):
There you go.
Speaker 6 (43:20):
But I do have one question for you on the
seventy yard field goal. I can't do my match real quick,
but where was the ball? What yard line was it on?
Like their own?
Speaker 2 (43:28):
Well, the goal post, the goal post is ten yards behind,
so you'd have to be you'd have to be on
your own forty yard line.
Speaker 8 (43:37):
Oh my god.
Speaker 5 (43:38):
And that puts the ball at the That puts the
ball at your own your.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
Own forty yard line. Well, the t would be on
your own forty yard line. The line of scream would
you probably be on your own forty six yard line?
Speaker 6 (43:49):
Wow, that's unbelievable, unreal. When I heard that, all I
could think of was Tom Dempsey was club foot kicking
it against the main and I thought that was a
great Bob lily throwing his helmet in the air, you know, like.
Speaker 5 (44:03):
I can't believe what just happened, you know, well, right.
Speaker 2 (44:07):
It happened against the hapless Lions in nineteen seventy and
it became a legendary story. As you know, if you
ever see the old NFL films, when Tom Dempsey, you know,
jogged onto the field, players were like laughing, like what
are we doing here? Yea banging through the uprights for
a game winner? By the way, that was a game winner.
All right, good stuff is always you appreciated Poppy. It's
(44:28):
San Diego back in the for what's happened to Poppy?
Speaker 13 (44:31):
Hey, Bernie just right here and joined san Diego like
you're enjoying the beautiful Vegas. But look on the first topic,
gone should door standers?
Speaker 10 (44:41):
Look?
Speaker 13 (44:41):
I said, this is my mentor show, Ben Maller. I
said it before the whole world jump on the tryan
shut door standers. I was like, look, he's gonna have
them packing touchdowns. He's gonna go over to sixty five.
Speaker 8 (44:53):
I guess that was a prop bet on it.
Speaker 9 (44:54):
It's gonna go easy, and he did.
Speaker 13 (44:56):
Am I surprised. No, he's the start that I I
thought he was gonna be in translate going into the NFL. Look,
it was cam Ward and he did a performance today
with the Titans. He did good, right and Shador sanders
Dus in my eyes, was supposed to be in the
first round. The Chador was supposed to be included, but
(45:17):
you know, bad publicity, you know, with the team does this,
and that drama went down to the fifth. Now I
thought that he got really humbled, you know him. And
not only that, he did amazing Bernie. He wasn't getting
the first team rep, second team rep, even the third
team rep.
Speaker 9 (45:32):
Like he was studying the.
Speaker 13 (45:34):
Playbook and he went out there and he shigned like
a Guimond. You know, does he have much?
Speaker 8 (45:39):
Right?
Speaker 2 (45:40):
So where do you think he goes from here? Do
you think he builds upon that and he's going to
forage or was this is a one shot deal?
Speaker 13 (45:48):
No, no, he's going to grow from it. And then
my next prediction, Bernie, you'll be the first one to
hear it right here on Park Sports Radio. They're going
to play the Eagles, right and then they're like, oh yeah,
other people were saying, oh, he's not going to do
that against eig He will do that against the Eagles,
whether it's going to be the first team, because he's
gonna go against the first team for a couple of snaps.
Second team thirty team. He is going to go there
(46:08):
and he's gonna show that he's a star.
Speaker 7 (46:10):
He was married.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
How about let's talk about Jerry Jones versus Michael Parsons.
Speaker 13 (46:18):
Yeah, Jerry Jones, Michael Parsons.
Speaker 6 (46:20):
I love it.
Speaker 8 (46:20):
It's like a soap opera.
Speaker 13 (46:21):
It's like a telenovela.
Speaker 8 (46:23):
You know, two could have been true.
Speaker 14 (46:24):
You know it's coming.
Speaker 13 (46:25):
Everyone's talking about it the whole uh Fox Sports Radio
is talking about this, the whole world on.
Speaker 14 (46:31):
The internet, and everything sets upon that.
Speaker 13 (46:33):
Jerry Jones the smart.
Speaker 8 (46:35):
Man he might be.
Speaker 5 (46:37):
I mean, if he's done the bad stuff, Bernie, maybe.
Speaker 13 (46:40):
I could be a million or so.
Speaker 8 (46:41):
We could just hope for us, you know, there's really.
Speaker 14 (46:44):
Hope for us.
Speaker 13 (46:44):
But on the marketing thing, he's a genius.
Speaker 2 (46:47):
Look he made But whose side are you picking here?
You can do what he wants? Are you on Parsons side?
Speaker 8 (46:55):
I'm taking Jerry Jones's side because look, Michael Parson, he's
bluffing and Jerry Jones knows this.
Speaker 13 (47:01):
He's a smart man. He's gonna do things Jerry's way
or the highway. And I agree because you know, Michael
Parker sent he could have done things better. Going with
the agent, and not just immaturity of him, like oh,
because everyone's doing it in social media and this and that.
That's like that, No, do you have an agent for
a reason? Why didn't you hit him up and him
to the thirty work for you? Why are you showing
(47:23):
this in public? It's like hush, hush, don't put it.
But you know, Jerry Jones is doing what are you
supposed to do? And I'm gonna decide, yes, he has
reasons what he's doing.
Speaker 15 (47:32):
I'm in atract like and not only Hard Knocks.
Speaker 2 (47:35):
Curse Hard Knocks, curse Poppy, does it exist? Or do
you think Buffalo can break it this year?
Speaker 8 (47:40):
Look on hard Knocks. It was more interesting today with
CD Lamb got rand over by the rest on Los Angeles.
Speaker 7 (47:48):
He got random.
Speaker 8 (47:51):
Yeah, so that that's more of a better Hard Knocks
than what's going on right now.
Speaker 7 (47:56):
What's going on with hard Knocks?
Speaker 15 (47:57):
I don't know.
Speaker 13 (47:57):
I used to like it when you said Mark Sanchez
was the and Rex Hyan it was amazing.
Speaker 8 (48:02):
They had a script.
Speaker 13 (48:03):
You would see what everything they were doing, They would
train what they would need and everything like crazy, and
you see.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
Players are getting cut. I didn't. I mean, of course
some years you've heard, you know, more f bombs and
then you know in Glengarry again Ross. But I mean
the crazy the thing about it is this, there's just
no content there, Poppy. I appreciate your call, man, thank you,
and uh, we'll see where Shador goes from here. Now, Christopher,
is this the Christopher that moved from North Carolina to London?
Speaker 9 (48:32):
That's sure it is.
Speaker 2 (48:34):
I got a beach good morning. It's about eight o'clock
there in the morning, eight or nine am.
Speaker 15 (48:37):
There in London, just after it.
Speaker 8 (48:41):
It is.
Speaker 2 (48:43):
Really I was there in London last year with my
wife and I loved the London man. It was amazing
city to me, so good. I'm glad. I can't wait
mand morning drive there in London so that you know,
maybe we negotiate my contract.
Speaker 16 (48:56):
Thing is now is I have to focus on soccer
versus regular So let's talk about mister.
Speaker 2 (49:01):
Sanders, okay please.
Speaker 16 (49:03):
Mister Sanders has potential and here's why. Let's think about
mister Brady. Mister Brady was a very smart man, drafted
in the fifth round and had potential. Now it all
hinges on the Browns offense. If a key it to
his strengths there's a possibility if Cleveland continues to do
what they've done for the last twenty five years, there's
(49:24):
no chance. The man can only perform based on the offense.
Speaker 7 (49:27):
That he's given.
Speaker 2 (49:28):
So you know what, that's fair. So that's fair.
Speaker 16 (49:32):
So if they give him the chance, there is potential.
But it all hinges on what the coaching staff does.
So let's watch and see what he does. Put him
up against the second squad against it on week four
or I should say three of the preseason when he's
going up against second stringers in the NFL. Then let's
see what he does for a.
Speaker 7 (49:51):
Half versus a series. That will give you a better.
Speaker 16 (49:54):
Indication he needs time, but having preparation, I kill four.
Speaker 7 (50:00):
Let's talk about mister Jones.
Speaker 16 (50:01):
Yeah, okay, NFL prints money like his toilet paper.
Speaker 17 (50:06):
They have so much of it.
Speaker 8 (50:08):
He says.
Speaker 16 (50:09):
The only way mister Jones can make the Dallas Cowboys marketable.
They're going to be lucky if they win six games
this year. So he knows he has one of the
best NFL players on the green. Why make this an
issue because that's the only way they can make the
Cowboys an issue. Let's be realistic. The player is going
(50:30):
to get what they want. The NFL prints money like
it's going out of style.
Speaker 7 (50:35):
There's no issue. Jerry will pay him.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
It'll be too much.
Speaker 16 (50:39):
Parsons will be happy and the NFL will move on.
But Jerry has to keep the team in at the presence,
and this is how he does it. I give him credit.
I give both sides credits because both sides are going
to win. Jerry will get what he wants in the end,
and so will mister Parsons. Neither side's going to win
the super Bowl, so who cares. Let's move on to
(51:02):
the Buffalo Bills. Hard knocks is a waste of time.
Think of it this way, Bernie, what happens when you
get put on the old Madden NFL game? Did you
ever win anything? No, it's the same curse. There's nothing
that's profitable for hard knocks. Hard Knocks is just trying
to stay irrelevant. I enjoyed the days when we had
(51:24):
the f bombs, when we had the issues with the
players that were truly getting cut. This is now trying
to be made as family television. I'm sorry, and NFL
Locker Room is not family television, Boys and girls, this
is the real deal. These men are out there killing
themselves to make the game what it is. It's not
candy and Royers's, it's not caking ice cream. It's literally
(51:48):
these men kill themselves to perform for the fans. That's
the real NFL. That's what should be the short on
hard Knocks, not this other sramp.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
But appreciate it.
Speaker 11 (51:58):
What do we know?
Speaker 2 (52:00):
A stranger man great London debut. Christopher was a caller
who lived in North Carolina, and she said, a I
believe a job transfer to London. Pretty cool stuff, Kevin
in Culver City. Welcome into the Bernie Frattle Show. Have
you called us before? It's just your first time.
Speaker 8 (52:15):
Yes, I called you guys a few respeck about Caron James.
Speaker 2 (52:18):
Okay, A welcome in again, so take it away and
start with your door.
Speaker 8 (52:24):
Well, Shador Sanders is a pure case of ignorance by
a lot of these owners and gms. Then Alice talking
to h I'm not talking about you. Go to pass
on this guy, particularly the Las Vegas Raiders and Mark Davis.
When I saw him, I saw Tom Brady because he
was raised by Tom Brady, and if you look at
this game he had, he had to digging duck, quick release,
(52:47):
ability to throw from the pocket with poison ease.
Speaker 15 (52:50):
And it was a beautiful deep ball.
Speaker 8 (52:52):
Don Braden have a great arm coming out of Michigan.
Speaker 10 (52:54):
But he was accurate.
Speaker 8 (52:55):
I saw accuracy. I saw a little Patrick Mahomes to him.
The way he was able to scramble like Mahomes does
not look ch Lamar Jackson, but cool and smooth. Now
with the Raiders, you got brought Bowers, perfect player for
like a Shador Sanders. You got to asking Gent a
great running back with imperfect to get him in the
fourth or fifth round. But for some reason, Mark Davis
didn't like him. And that's why the Raiders are the Raiders.
Speaker 12 (53:14):
They're gonna Raider.
Speaker 2 (53:15):
Yeah, they said they acted like they liked him, and
then they rafted seven players the Raiders did before shudor Standers. Now,
to be fair, I if I were the Raiders, I
wouldn't have drafted him either. But you make some good points.
Just move along. Jerry Jones versus Michael Parsons, who sighed
you on.
Speaker 17 (53:31):
This is Jerry being Jerry.
Speaker 6 (53:33):
This is why he's an owner.
Speaker 8 (53:34):
But I'm the Michael Parsons because if you remember Michael
Parsons who allowed other players to get paid Ceedee lamb
Dak Prescott. He said, my time will come. Well, hey,
it's time the back of the brief. Trust this guy's
on the top defensive end linebackers in the game. You
gotta pay the man, Jerry, he leads your defense. You know,
Michael Parsons, you're not winning three four games?
Speaker 2 (53:55):
You got, Michael, Yeah, you're you're not your excellent points.
I don't disagree with anything, he said real quickly Hard
Knocks Buffalo? Is there a curse? Can Buffalo break it?
Speaker 8 (54:06):
Absolutely? They can? And then appealing thing I like about
Buffalo on Hard Knocks is you've got a team who
came off of being so close to being Kansas City
and maybe winning the Super Bowl and being in Philadelphia
being there, he goes, what is the comeback? How do
you regroup? Is Sam McDermott the coach? How are the
players receiving him? How is Josh Salden coming off of
an MVP season where he wins the MVP very wonderful, beautiful,
(54:28):
eighty fie field for centers? How is he handling all
this getting ready for maybe his most important regular season
of his career coming up. Let's see that. But let's
tap into it, and let's see how the Buffalo Bill's
handled being the team of everybody's favorite as opposed to
being the team that everybody says can.
Speaker 5 (54:44):
Beat the Kiefs.
Speaker 8 (54:45):
Now they're the hunting.
Speaker 9 (54:46):
What do they do now?
Speaker 8 (54:47):
How do they react to that? Hart Knocks has got
to tap into that more, get more locker room, you know,
let the f bombs fly a little bit. This is
in Sephany Street, this is hard knocked, ring it out.
Bring up the NFL locker room, baby, come on, let's go.
Speaker 2 (55:00):
All right, thanks so much, Kevin, appreciate you. And what's
interesting is, I don't know if Sean McDermott, I mean,
Tony Dungee, I don't think fired one F bomba's entire career.
I'll tell the story about that another time. But yeah, look,
we'll see where they go. But we Episode one, to me,
was a dud. All right, We're off to a rollicking start.
We've got Bruce and Santa Monica. We've got Steven, Kansas City,
(55:21):
Jerome and Charleston, Kurt and San Clementi, California. Hang tight,
I do want to hear from all of you. We'll

and the Midnight Hour continues. Let's go back out to
the phone lines of Bruce Santa Monica, California joined us.
Thanks for hanging on, Bruce, Welcome in.
Speaker 11 (56:04):
Hey, good morning. Like a lot of people, I don't
I really like Jerry Jones. I never liked them, haven't
liked them for a long time. But in this case
I agree with them based on this, I think that
the NFL establishment and the sports establishment in general don't
value the don't value players correctly, never have if you
(56:24):
listen to all this shows of so called experts. In
my humble opinion, the quarterback is eighty percent of your team.
The offensive line, which is five three d and fifty
pound tanks to protect the quarterback or ten percent, there's
ninety and the rest of the whole team fricking team.
Speaker 5 (56:43):
Interesting point, and I think Jerry Jones knows that.
Speaker 11 (56:46):
I think Jerry Jones knows that.
Speaker 2 (56:48):
Well, Okay, just to dive in for half a second
this day and age after the quarterback, quarterbacks everything, you
got to protect him, and then you've got to get
to the other team's quarterback and kill him. So I
think there's some of that, right, but it's not the
be all, end all. But continue, I'm I'm subscribing to
your thought.
Speaker 5 (57:06):
I hear it, I hear you.
Speaker 2 (57:07):
Go ahead.
Speaker 11 (57:07):
Well, a lot of people would say, well, no, the
the the cornerbacks and the wide receivers and the defensive
ends are the best athletes on the team better than
the quarterback. Well that's probably true in most cases.
Speaker 7 (57:21):
They are better athletes, but there's hundreds of them circling
in the world at any one time, either in the
NFL or other either pro leagues or the top levels
of the college.
Speaker 2 (57:30):
Tak on your point, Bruce, Max Crossley's going to make
thirty six million this year. The Raiders are going nowhere.
Miles Garrett's going to make forty million this year. The
Browns are going nowhere, So your point has merit. Any
thoughts on Shador Standers in his debut and where he
goes from here, Well, in.
Speaker 11 (57:45):
My opinion on Shador Sanders is he's in the same
mode as Johnny Mandal. He's a spoiled punk of a
kid who has a disturbing sense of self entitlement. But
a lot of case in a lot of ways, he's
worse than Johnny Manziel because he's got a father who's
even more spoiled and more self entitled. So I think
(58:07):
in the end, uh, he's gonna something will go wrong
and he'll make enemies on his team, He'll make enemies
in the media, and I just think I don't think
his talent is enough to overcome his bad attitude.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
Anything on Hard Knocks, is there a legit curse?
Speaker 8 (58:21):
There?
Speaker 2 (58:22):
Can Buffalo break that this year?
Speaker 11 (58:25):
No offense to that one.
Speaker 8 (58:26):
I haven't seen Hard Knocks, so I know.
Speaker 2 (58:28):
I appreciate the candor. By the way, is this your
first time calling the show, Bruce?
Speaker 11 (58:33):
I've called during the week to Ben show quite a
few times.
Speaker 2 (58:38):
Midnight You're I appreciate the strong opinions. Thank you very much,
and don't be a stranger. Stephen Kansas City. I know
it's not your first time, buddy, so I'm very curious
what you've got to say on these subjects.
Speaker 18 (58:55):
Yeah, bit strong first call by our guys. Sam Listen,
I love the Chaduor Sanders story. I think it's one
of the highlights of the of the season so far.
That you know, it's emblematic of America. People could learn
a lot.
Speaker 10 (59:14):
From this because the kid is a young kid.
Speaker 18 (59:16):
He made a mistake. He thought he could engineer his
way on to whatever team he wanted, and he lost
ten million dollars.
Speaker 12 (59:25):
And maybe maybe the kid learned something.
Speaker 18 (59:27):
Maybe he learned something, and maybe.
Speaker 2 (59:28):
That's a really good angle, Steve, I got to tell you.
Do you remember years ago when Joshua was not a
CLA was drafting ninth overall. He wasn't that good. He
was so pissed off. He was chewing nails. He was
going to prove the world he was wrong. He was
so bad. I mean, do you almost drive your car
Farrow talking about him. There's an old thing. You can't
(59:49):
control what happens, but you can't get draw all you react.
Shador Sanders since falling to pick number one, forty four
or whatever the hell it was, he's actually really conducted
himself like a consummate professional. He's reacting quite you're onto.
Speaker 10 (01:00:02):
An angle there, exactly. That's exactly right.
Speaker 18 (01:00:05):
And this this could be a learning experience for a
lot of people, especially in the w n B. A.
Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
We're gonna pretend I never heard that word. Yes, yes, yes,
And people will people forgive you.
Speaker 18 (01:00:27):
Oh, sure, people will forgive you all day long if
you produce on the field. And he may me get
a little bit humbled to watch out this kid where.
Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
He's got his whole life ahead him, all right, Jerry
versus Michael quickly aside.
Speaker 18 (01:00:43):
Okay, well, I'm just an old country lawyer, but I
think Jerry is kind of crazy like a fox here
as as usual. And there was an interesting study in
the Atlantic. They said most of the fans consider Micah
one of the most overrated players on the on the Cowboys,
So Jerry knows that there's a lot of fan base.
(01:01:04):
He may end up training Mike if he was. I mean,
he's getting up there in years.
Speaker 10 (01:01:08):
I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 18 (01:01:10):
He may do something that's been pained.
Speaker 2 (01:01:13):
About, kind of like a like a you know the
Khalil mactrade that the Raiders did years ago. Uh huh,
But I don't think based on people I talked to her,
they're not going on that road. But right again, he
raised an interesting issue. Not everybody is kicking Jerry in
the shins like I thought they might. Finally hard knocks,
my friend? Is there a curse there?
Speaker 6 (01:01:31):
Oh?
Speaker 18 (01:01:32):
Oh, I tell you what. They They need to focus
on the quarterback and his girlfriend like Taylor swib boy
that she's a hot tomato.
Speaker 8 (01:01:40):
That that I would watch that.
Speaker 18 (01:01:42):
That Josh Allen and his and his wife now that
I would be interested in that. But I'm not so
interested in the bills on the hard dog to take
care of bird.
Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
Okay, thanks, more strong opinions today. Speaking of strong opinion,
just welcoming a gentleman, a very busy man about town.
Former leits of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. Le's
welcome in Jerome from Charleston. What's happening Jerome?
Speaker 8 (01:02:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 15 (01:02:06):
You wish? You wish I could sing like that?
Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
Wait a minute, mate, was it Archie Bille the drills
or was it? Never mind? Go ahead, droom, you got
the floor?
Speaker 15 (01:02:15):
You wish I could sing that he'll never happen. I've
never had that much talent.
Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
I heard you could sing tenor ten or twelve miles away.
All right, you do take the floor.
Speaker 15 (01:02:25):
Hey, look here, I'm imagined that guy knows so much
Abouston door stand until you never Mad's okay, But I
don't know how this Cleveland is going to go. But
all I know is quarterback is one of the toping
positions to master in the NFL. Nobody masters and the
long did you watch the Suber Bowl Patrick mahomes one
(01:02:46):
of the most accomplished mother and take quarterbacks running for
his life? Okay, it's not just a meeting again, it's
a weekend. So the more they can put around him
to pop him up and make him look good, the
better is it is for him. But I'm not drinking
the school aid like these other people. After one prezas
(01:03:06):
a game.
Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
That's fair, nobody plan, Come on, that's okay. I enjoy
your calls. Man. You you you you're always You're unpredictable,
and I and I like that. So let's let's jump
to go ahead. I want to get Jerry Versus at
MICA next.
Speaker 15 (01:03:23):
Hey, you better get your money, man, before you step
out on that field, because I mean they're already cotton
guys off the field and in the preseason. Okay, you
better get your money because you just never know how
what was that Glamborough say, NFL not for long. Nobody
knows how long you're gonna play, So you better get
your money first because otherwise I'm not stepping on to
(01:03:45):
that field.
Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
It doesn't look like he has either, but it's gonna
come to it. It's gonna come to a reckoning here
within three weeks. So it's gonna be interesting to watch
Buffalo Bill's Hard Knocks. Is there a curse there?
Speaker 7 (01:03:56):
Hey?
Speaker 15 (01:03:56):
I just I just want Allen to know me. I'm
not getting mad unless I got a premup. Man, I
don't care how beautiful that woman is. I don't care
because even good luck and people get sick of each
other after a while. I'm getting the prenup and then
she's in the business work. You gotta kiss out the people.
Oh hell no, oh, no way, I'm married her.
Speaker 9 (01:04:19):
I'm never mad.
Speaker 15 (01:04:20):
Actor run act, Nope, not doing it. Okay, along all right, Jerome.
Speaker 2 (01:04:26):
That is the world according to Jerome, and that gets
at you kick out of his calls because man, you
never know where the hell he's coming from. Curtin San Clementi, California, Farma, Homer,
Richard Nixon, Welcome in, Kurt Burn.
Speaker 12 (01:04:40):
It's been too long.
Speaker 2 (01:04:41):
Yeah, good to hear from you.
Speaker 12 (01:04:44):
Good to hear your voice. Also, I'll be quick, durable
Sanders the top ten pick going in the fifth round.
Some short sighted gms. If you ask me, I think
it'll start by week four.
Speaker 5 (01:05:00):
Okay, he's been he's.
Speaker 12 (01:05:01):
Been practicing as a as a boy against one of
the NFL history's best corners of all time. And he's
been practicing against his dad, probably since he was.
Speaker 10 (01:05:14):
A little boy.
Speaker 12 (01:05:15):
Uh, Michael Parsons and mister Jones. Michael Parsons is probably
singing that song.
Speaker 5 (01:05:24):
Me and mister.
Speaker 12 (01:05:25):
Jones, we got a thing going.
Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
All both getting ugly. I gotta tell you it's it's
it's I'm hearing some things I I was dismissive. They'll
just pay him like they did Dak. They'll just pay
him like they did.
Speaker 10 (01:05:39):
See.
Speaker 2 (01:05:39):
I'm hearing some things that are are a little disturbing here.
This could get uglier, it could. But who side are
you on? I mean the owner, you know, the Golden
roof who you as the gold makes the rules.
Speaker 12 (01:05:52):
Or I'm I'm I'm on mister Jones' side.
Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
This is interesting. It's leaning that way tonight. I didn't
think that. Go ahead, amplify your point.
Speaker 12 (01:06:04):
I think what's happening in pro sports is that these
contracts are getting so out of hand that you can't
blame an owner regardless of how much money he has
or what his team is worth. It's business, and just
(01:06:25):
because everybody is trying to outdo everybody else with their contracts,
that doesn't make it right from a business standpoint. And
that's why I would side with mister Jones on this.
As for the Buffalo bills, from what you said about
the history of hard knocks, Tage just got delt aces
(01:06:48):
and eights.
Speaker 2 (01:06:49):
It's a little blackcheck term there. All right, good stuff, Kurt,
appreciate you man. Don't be a stranger. Rick and Louisiana
back in the fall. Welcome in. Rick, How are you
is so?
Speaker 10 (01:07:00):
I'm all right?
Speaker 8 (01:07:01):
How are you?
Speaker 10 (01:07:01):
And Bernie? Thanks for taking a car. I'm starting with
the should. I think Shad is gonna be all right
as long as he continued to get some some snaps
in pre season. I think he'll be all right. As
far as Michael parsons, I'm for him. Jerry gonna pay me.
And Jerry has a history of just holding out, holding out,
(01:07:25):
and then he pays him. And I think that's what
he's doing here. He's just playing the little game because
he's you know, he's the owner of America's team, so
he got to give him some publicity. And he knows
this is gonna give him a little shine. He's gonna
give him a little shine. So he's gonna hold out,
hold out, so everybody's talking about him, and then all
of a sudden he's gonna step in like a hero,
(01:07:47):
you know, and just pay the man.
Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
So that the pattern. This one feels a little there,
but you could be right right.
Speaker 10 (01:07:55):
Yeah, I'm a cowboy saying and that this is this
is just a pattern. This is a pattern. And he
usually ended up paying him too much because he waits
so late, they.
Speaker 2 (01:08:06):
End up getting more.
Speaker 7 (01:08:08):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:08:08):
Finally, the Buffalo bills on Hard Knocks. Uh is there
a Hard Knocks curse? No Hard Knocks team has ever
made it to the.
Speaker 10 (01:08:15):
I think Buffalo there they have the curse gives them
an alibi when they see Kansas City going to the
Super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (01:08:26):
Well, it was the curse.
Speaker 7 (01:08:27):
It was the curse of hard knocks.
Speaker 10 (01:08:30):
It was a hard knocks of the Kansas City Chiefs.
That's what it is.
Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
So yeah, I think there's only three teams in the
FC that that it's it's bounce the power anything else?
Speaker 10 (01:08:39):
Rick, Yes, did you go to the fight a few
weeks bad?
Speaker 7 (01:08:46):
No?
Speaker 10 (01:08:46):
I did not in Kansas City? Okay, all right, because
I know you were out and we're just taking seats.
Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
You build it, all right, buddy, Wells, appreciate your good stuff.
Good stuff all the way around. Uh, just so people know. Look,
you don't count anybody else's money. And I know there
are ranges of position, ranges based on how players are
paid in the NFL, And it's kind of like real
estate comps. Right, If Michael Parsons, if the club picked
(01:09:14):
up the option of twenty four million this year, if
Michael Parsons just played this year and never played football again,
he makes forty one million dollars in his career. He
would have made forty one million dollars by age twenty
twenty seven. So no one needs to take up a
collection plate. But everything has a context, and he's performed
well fifty two sacks in his career, and he's a
good guy.
Speaker 15 (01:09:35):
I have you know.
Speaker 2 (01:09:36):
Look, not everybody bats a thousand, so we'll see what happens.
Eight seven, seven, nine, nine, six sixty three sixty nine.
When they've been at hour continues, Mark and Maryland, you
will be up next to appreciate your patience.
Speaker 8 (01:09:48):
Hang on.
Speaker 2 (01:09:48):
Definitely want to hear which you've got to say. In
the meantime, I want everybody to know for the best

Friddle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right back on
the Bernie Fridle Show. The Midnight Hour continues callers have
been just fantastic again tonight. A few surprises here and there,
(01:10:33):
and let's go out to Maryland. We're joined by Mark Mark.
Thanks for having on. You're up next. Hello Mark, Hey Bernie,
how are you good, sir? Thank you?
Speaker 17 (01:10:43):
Thank you Bernie.
Speaker 10 (01:10:45):
Listen, Bernie, I love calling you.
Speaker 17 (01:10:47):
You my highlight of the week because you do it
the right way. These other guys, I don't know what
they're doing, but it's not talk sports radio.
Speaker 8 (01:10:57):
Okay, I'm gonna talk about Dor Sanders.
Speaker 17 (01:11:01):
Okay, I think he's paying Deon is such a polarizer.
I think he's paying for his father's sin, so to speak. Okay,
Eon and Bo Jackson, to me, are the best athletes
have ever played. Okay, professionals in both sports. That just
doesn't get done. Okay, the kid took on Dion's I
(01:11:22):
think a lot of people are holding it against him. Okay,
I'm gonna say this. I think Schador can play in
this league. I think he is a starter. I think
he showed it yesterday. I think he showed it his potential.
I think he just needs more reps. The kid has
got it.
Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
Okay, Listen, that Tom Brady comparison came up. I covered
Tom Brady at Michigan. I was there. He won games,
he was twenty and five, was a start, he was
a nerd. But I'm telling you there are similarities in
the way those two guys play the game from the
neck up. So you may well be right. We gotta
let this play out. Mark, Do you have a side
(01:12:04):
between Jerry and Micah?
Speaker 17 (01:12:07):
Definitely Micah.
Speaker 5 (01:12:09):
Let me tell you something.
Speaker 17 (01:12:10):
I'm an old school guy. I'm sixty years old.
Speaker 8 (01:12:13):
I've seen it all. I'm a Redskins nat and I
said Redskins, not Commanders. Okay, I don't have anything. I
know it's a racial slur.
Speaker 17 (01:12:21):
Blah blah blah blah blah. I think it was political, Okay.
I hate the Commanders. Most of the DMV hates it, Okay,
but what it is is what it is.
Speaker 8 (01:12:31):
Okay. Now I'm gonna say this.
Speaker 17 (01:12:34):
I'm a Cowboys hater. I don't care if we don't
win no games as long as we beat them. Okay,
So I go back like that. Okay, I'm true.
Speaker 8 (01:12:45):
Now, Micah is the best defensive guy I've seen this.
Lars Taylor is a large Taylor ability. Everybody knows it.
Jerry Jones is a jerk. He's always been. He's bigger,
you know, I like. I mean, Jerry Jones is oil
raikoon the way he does business.
Speaker 17 (01:13:02):
This last thing.
Speaker 8 (01:13:03):
Coming out about him handshaking and all that bad Come on,
how are you going to That's not where you do business.
He tried to snooker, I mean, and then he's gonna hold, oh,
we had a handshake deal. How do you have any
deal without the agent.
Speaker 17 (01:13:18):
That's that's egregious. That's that's some good old boy. Yes,
and I'm I don't like it. I'm very uh animated
about it. And I like Jerry, but but but he
tried to pull the wool over the boy's eyes. And
then all of a sudden he's gonna say, oh, we
had handshake deals. What are you talking about?
Speaker 8 (01:13:38):
This is business? Okay, what are you talking about?
Speaker 10 (01:13:41):
You know?
Speaker 7 (01:13:42):
So I don't agree with that, you know, fairness, like
for the money, he deserves all of it.
Speaker 8 (01:13:50):
But but you know, as a riskin fan slash commanders,
I hope they f and l because I don't want
to see him, Okay, I'm Jayton Daniels said, I don't
want to have to botch his ass. Okay, I'm sorry
for the fault.
Speaker 2 (01:14:04):
All good, It's all good. Hey, listen, I appreciate the
animation finally because I got one more car for you
real quickly. The Buffalo Bills on Hard Knocks. You believe
that there's a curse and Buffalo, No.
Speaker 17 (01:14:16):
I don't believe there's a curse. First of all, Hard
Knocks is reality TV. I hate Okay, I don't believe it.
It's made for TV b ads.
Speaker 10 (01:14:26):
Okay.
Speaker 17 (01:14:27):
I like the Bills. The only problem the Bills. They
can't get past Patrick Mahomes, who's the best young quarterback
I've ever seen. Okay, and that's just not my opinion,
that's facts.
Speaker 10 (01:14:40):
Okay.
Speaker 17 (01:14:40):
I love Josh Allen. But but but Patrick Mahomes is
an anomaly that we're not going to ever see. You
better appreciate him, and all the chiefs got to do it.
Surround him with enough talent because that boy's gonna always
be there.
Speaker 5 (01:14:54):
Okay.
Speaker 17 (01:14:54):
So I'm not a big Hard Knocks fan.
Speaker 2 (01:14:57):
Okay, Hey, John, great stuff man, three strong opinions. Don't
be a stranger. John and Toledo will wrap things up
tonight on the Midnight Hour. Welcome in, John, Is this
your first time calling? The Bernie Fredle Show.
Speaker 5 (01:15:10):
It's my first time, Bernie. I'm good to show brother,
and I had something to contribute. I'm almost seventy, and
I remember those sixty seven Detroit teams at Kobo Hall.
You remember those places up there?
Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
Man, absolutely, we could probably name the sixty seven Tigers lineup.
They won one hundred and three games, didn't make the
playoffs a year.
Speaker 5 (01:15:29):
Oh, Walwoch, Norm Cash, Hell, Caitlining, of course McClean who
they had, Yeah, bro Freehand. I mean a lot of
great teams. But do you know what, I was a
street coach at a university for years and we had
thirteen varsity sports, and I went on personal training for
a long long time I've been around.
Speaker 2 (01:15:50):
I'll tell you what a fellow, Because we're up against
the clock if I want to get to these street topics,
because I do have one more call of my bad
and if we could please get to the three topics,
and then if we can get you in earlier, maybe
next week you have more airtime. But I'd like you
to know your thoughts on she Door Sanders and Jerry
versus Micah.
Speaker 5 (01:16:09):
I see I said that because I've seen a lot
of cocky athletes come in that where we're all at.
I mean, you remember Elway he was didn't want to
go to certain teams, neither the manny No.
Speaker 2 (01:16:19):
I certainly get all that. But based on his start Thursday,
because I haven't been made up my mind yet, I'm
open minded, do you think he blossoms into a starter
or is this a one shot deal? What's what's going
to happen?
Speaker 10 (01:16:30):
He sees the.
Speaker 5 (01:16:30):
Field well, from lot to see, I think he's going
to be a starter.
Speaker 2 (01:16:34):
I think I don't mean to be sure with you,
but we got a clock to manage her, and I uh,
Jerry versus Micah.
Speaker 5 (01:16:42):
Jerry, because Mike is on the downhill side and he
was never LT and he's not even coleel Mack was
a great player. And as far as the Buffalo curse,
let's just take it back to Marv lady, let's take
it back to the Buffwell Braves of those great Mac
and the McDaniel and de Goorio teams their curse period.
Speaker 2 (01:16:59):
So all I gotta say, hey, man hold on, don't
don't don't hang out just yet. You had some great
pulls there. That's that's that's a big time call here, John.
That that you you you are a true sports fan,
uh with analogy history. Thanks for checking in and uh
get on again. We'll get you more of your time
next time. Okay. Uh, let's wrap it up with John
from Texas. John, sorry about that. I almost blew it.
(01:17:22):
You got the floor.
Speaker 9 (01:17:24):
Oh well, thank you, sir. I'll uh first time caller,
a longtime listener, I'll be.
Speaker 2 (01:17:30):
I love these first timers. I love it.
Speaker 9 (01:17:33):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (01:17:33):
Well, Uh, you do it.
Speaker 9 (01:17:35):
The man was right, you do it the right way.
I really enjoy your programming.
Speaker 10 (01:17:39):
Uh, thank you.
Speaker 9 (01:17:40):
I know you're on the clock.
Speaker 15 (01:17:42):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (01:17:43):
Garry Jones is committing general manager male practice all over
the place.
Speaker 7 (01:17:50):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (01:17:51):
Hey, this man, I think Jerry actually got got his
feeling heard or whatever. I think this thing it's real.
I don't believe it's Uh it's cut and dried anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
No, I'm got to talk about that a little later.
I think this one is there's a lot of bruce
feelings here between all the parties, especially the agent David Malagita,
who's a big time powerful agent. He's pissed.
Speaker 9 (01:18:16):
So this is your year, and the biggest thing on
Garrick Jones is the ego.
Speaker 2 (01:18:21):
So all right, moving on, John.
Speaker 4 (01:18:24):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:18:26):
Uh, we didn't talk about your Sanders.
Speaker 9 (01:18:28):
You believe in them or I think he will eventually
become a starter. I don't know if it'll be this year.
I think if he's on the team at all, it'll
be what turn streams. So I see he's there, I
see something to work with.
Speaker 8 (01:18:46):
I will be make sick.
Speaker 2 (01:18:48):
Yeah, it'd be. That'd be. I think he's gonna make
the team, even if he finds himself on a practice,
but he's gonna. I I just feel he's gonna make
the team. Uh, but we'll see. Uh finally Uh hard knocks.
Do you believe there's a legitimate.
Speaker 9 (01:19:04):
I don't know if it's a curse, But when you
put a camera in front of somebody, especially a preferable
young man trying to learn football for the first time,
I think it can set you back. So I don't know,
but it all depends on your coach, if you know,
(01:19:26):
if he's able to get you refocused. But I can
see where that can throw you off track.
Speaker 2 (01:19:33):
All right, Pal, You're always welcome to call the show.
Appreciate you hanging on the patients, Appreciate everybody's calls. I
hate to cut people short. We're just trying to manage
a clock here and appreciate everybody's thoughts. And this last
gentleman talked about Jerry Jones malpractice. This one's a little
weird because we're going to talk about this later. He's
(01:19:55):
trying to engage in negotiations directly. Player hires agents for
a reason. Okay, it's a procedure established by the NFLPA.
These are the collective interests of all and you've got
to play by the rules. So this really went sideways.
Speaker 10 (01:20:09):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:20:10):
David Malagata is one of the most powerful and respected
agents in the game, but maybe he should have seen
his coming. All right, keep it locked up. Next, Mark
Madena joined us a little Medina magic. Bernie Fraddles Show,
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:20:27):
It's right you hear the man Bernie Fraddles Show keeps
rolling right along. My name is Bernie Froanda. We're comedy
line from the Fox Sports Radio compound here in Las Vegas.
Will take up to three am Pacific, six am Eastern,
and let's welcome in a gentleman. I'm familiar face now
in our new time slot during the football season. Even
though the NBA season is only seventy two days away.
(01:20:49):
People are gaga about football, but that doesn't mean there
still is an NBA news. We want to keep our
finger on the pulse of three simple words. It's that time,
Mark Medina, Medina Magic come to you every Saturday night
Sunday morning on the Bernie Frattle Show here in Las Vegas. Mark,
appreciate you making the adjustment and we'll continue on with
(01:21:13):
more award winning content.
Speaker 14 (01:21:15):
Bernie always happy to talk NBA no matter what time
an hour.
Speaker 2 (01:21:20):
Well, I appreciate you so. Interestingly enough, the seasons do
meld together, and we're basically seventy two days away from
Houston opening up at OKAC on a Friday night and
Golden State at Los Angeles. I find that second matchup
a little interesting for a Friday night at NBC. What
(01:21:41):
are your thoughts on that doubleheader to start the NBA.
Speaker 14 (01:21:44):
Well, you can't ever go wrong with those kind of matchups.
With opening night, I thought it was going to be another,
you know, let's make a revenge game with the Dallas
Mavericks once again, because it's the gift that keeps on giving.
But I guess they have to, you know, choose all
the Nights accordingly, because they can't do that every single
Marquee game. I thought they were actually the Lakers. They're
(01:22:05):
actually going to have that for Christmas Day as well.
But Dallas is playing Golden State, Juice is playing the Lakers.
Speaker 8 (01:22:12):
I get it.
Speaker 14 (01:22:13):
There's still a lot of Juice with the potential. Maybe
not last matchup, but it's the second to last matchup
with Kevin Durant and Lebron James. But again Luca versus
the Mavericks, Cooper Flag versus the Lakers. I mean, that's
going to be a storyline for multiple years to come.
Speaker 8 (01:22:31):
It is.
Speaker 2 (01:22:31):
The reason I invoked that comment is because there are
two Western Division matchups, and I understand there's already a
little bit of backlash because the quintuple ahead of the
five games on ABC Christmas Day four, the five are
Western Conference games. The only Eastern Conference game is the
Cavs at the Knicks. Your thoughts on that and is
(01:22:53):
that a contrivance by the NBA? What are they trying
to do here? All Right, we may have lost mister Medina.
Perhaps we can effort and get him back, but it's
a situation, uh where the five games on ABC and
Christmas Day would be Cleveland at New York, uh, San
Antonio at Oklahoma City and the Rockets at the Lakers. Okay,
(01:23:16):
that'll be interesting. I can hear you back. No, no,
no problem, buddy, We're all we're all good.
Speaker 9 (01:23:21):
I think the NBA didn't take Hi.
Speaker 2 (01:23:25):
You didn't go over you, you didn't go over your
cell minutes to package, did your anything like that, because
I wanted to chip in if you need you know that.
Speaker 14 (01:23:33):
I think the NBA didn't take Highway too threw up
in the schedule, so they cut us off.
Speaker 2 (01:23:37):
Well, I was just responding to the backlash I heard
the maybe I'm wrong, maybe, but for the five games
on Christmas Day are Western Conference games and the Spurs
Thunder to me is a little questionable, right Minnesota, Denver
is good, MAVs Warriors good. You got a lot of
star power there. Maybe it's Wemby, I guess people want
to see or the year and.
Speaker 14 (01:23:58):
Five under defended champs Bernie Well.
Speaker 2 (01:24:01):
The thunder art, but their opponent isn't there. I don't
know if their opponent's even a playoff.
Speaker 9 (01:24:05):
Team, I mean vicor Wiben Yama.
Speaker 14 (01:24:07):
They got the Aaron Fox. I mean there's Mark chi things.
I get your broader point. What's the Eastern Conference representation here?
I'll counter with this, Bernie, The Eastern Conference is not
as strong as the West next season because Boston. Boston's
a gap year because Jayson Tatum's out for the season.
Same thing with the Indiana Pacers, Tyres Halburn. So I
(01:24:30):
thought maybe they put the Milwaukee Bucks on the schedule
because you still have Jannathan to Deakumpo. But it's almost
like the All Star selections when people say you get smeled, Okay,
the next exercises, which game do you replace? And you know,
look all these Western Conference teams San Antonio, Oklahoma City
is Houston, the Lakers, Dallas, Golden State, Minnesota, Denver. They're
(01:24:52):
all teams that are a good and be have star players.
And see they move the needles. So I do get it,
and I think I'm more of a sign that the
business going to be as strong as that season.
Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
Yeah again, I'm merely parroting what I had heard. I
couldn't care less who they put they can put on,
you know, red red clots and the Washington Generals for
all I care about. But but, but, and all in
all seriousness, I heard there had been some some backlash
because what seventy five percent of the population is east
of the Mississippi, right, So I'm just just a little
(01:25:25):
love there. I don't I don't care.
Speaker 14 (01:25:26):
Uh yeah, I think to defend you here if I'm Indiana,
I look at look, we just made the finals and
you're yeah on Christmas night, But I think, yes, great
pointyn is not going to be there.
Speaker 2 (01:25:40):
Yeah, that's another good point. So I guess if you
look at the lineup you got, you got a big
you got big names across the board. You mentioned the
Boston Celtics, and you know they're gonna be I guess
it's gonna be a bit of a hall past season.
I don't see any way other way around it. But
they took time to extend their coach, Joe Miszulu, who
I thought was very uh you know, worthy of that
(01:26:02):
type of an increase your thoughts.
Speaker 9 (01:26:05):
Yeah, I don't think it's surprised at all.
Speaker 14 (01:26:07):
I mean, he already wanted NBA championship. He took over
under very unique circumstances of the lead.
Speaker 6 (01:26:13):
Head coach because Emodoka, you know, was.
Speaker 14 (01:26:16):
Let go because of some internal issues here, and so
what he showed was that he was very capable of
guiding the ship and you know, making it be as
seamless as possible. Now, yeah, the Celics did underachieved this
season there as you mentioned, they're going to have a
Hall Pass season, but I think it has more to
do with the fact that Jason Tatum again is going
(01:26:39):
to be out of the year with the Achilles, and
that's partly why the Celtics made all these cost cutting moves.
They already were going to have to shave costs because
of Second Apron World. But I think that they're relatively
more comfortable with trading Drew Holliday and Chris Osporzingis because
of the Tatum injury. I mean, outside of Jalen Brown,
you're not having a lot of games changers all the team.
(01:27:01):
So it's about trying to stay the course, playing the
continuity card, improved from within, and then when Jason Tatum's
back the following season, they can try to make another
run out of it.
Speaker 2 (01:27:13):
Thought Mark Medina Medina Magic our new time here in
the Rooney Frattle Show. Throughout football season, the NBA, Mark,
it's been theorized, is entering an interesting time period and
I'll set this up because they've enjoyed their dynasties going
back sixty years with Bill Russell's and the Celtics. Then
you had bird Magic in the eighties, One or the
(01:27:35):
other was in the finals every year in the eighties.
Then after that the Bulls, Lakers, Spurs, they had dynastic runs.
And then in the last even ten years you had
Steph Curry and Lebron with the Heat in Cleveland. So
you had these familiar names. But since the Warriors won
back to back titles in seventeen and eighteen, the NBA
scene seven different champions now and they've been eleven different finalists.
(01:27:58):
Where am I going with this? There's parody largely because
of the new financial structure. I think, do you think
parody is good for the NBA or they need to
get that dynasty that people love or love to hate.
Speaker 17 (01:28:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:28:14):
I think as an objective NBA fan, I don't have
a preference one way or the other.
Speaker 14 (01:28:19):
What matters is is a product on the floor good,
and I think that there should be a middle ground.
Parody is good for the NBA. You want to have
competitive balance, But I think what's most important Bernie is
sustained parody.
Speaker 9 (01:28:34):
I think you hit on the head that.
Speaker 14 (01:28:35):
There hasn't been a repeat champion since the Golden State
Warriors in twenty eighteen. That doesn't mean that the win
NBA championship. You have to have four All Stars for
future Hall of Famers on your team to compete. But
at the same time, you have to be able to
retain your players.
Speaker 4 (01:28:51):
And so.
Speaker 14 (01:28:53):
You know the fact that we're talking about second apron
concerns and all that, I get it. You know, not
every small market team has the kind of revenue sources
that big market teams have. But there needs to be
a distinguishable feature here on the penalties that teams incur
when they spend money on free agents versus players that
(01:29:16):
they draft and then develop. And so what's said here
is that you know, a team that drafts really well
might be you know, their fruits of their labor come
to fruition here, but that once those players are eligible
for rookie extensions and the next extension after that, they
can't afford it anymore.
Speaker 9 (01:29:37):
And they have to punt.
Speaker 14 (01:29:38):
And I don't think that I think it's almost self defeating.
They're saying that they want teams to be rewarded for
making good decisions and player development, and then they're attacking
the second apron things. So they have to distinguish again
between free agents players and players that they drafted from within.
And I suspect that they will do that, but so
(01:29:59):
far it hasn't. As a result, it's created a lot
of you know issues that you know, teams are making
more business decisions than basketball decisions.
Speaker 2 (01:30:08):
Well, you're seeing more dispersion of talent, maybe, you know,
not more now than in the last fifty years. I mean,
the seventies had a lot of parody and ended up
the NBA ended up merging with the ABA, and they
brought more talent into the league. And I know, I mean,
some of this can be good because you have Kevin
Durant going to Houston, right Luca going to the Lakers,
(01:30:29):
and right on down the line. But it feels like
without that dynasty there which the NBA has relied on,
it's it's not quite the same vibe. But let's you know,
I guess we have to see how it plays out, right.
Speaker 14 (01:30:45):
Yeah, And I think, Bernie, I think what we need
to keep in mind here is that it doesn't have
to be in either war. I think the product of
the flour is ultimately what matters. And let's let's use
these two examples.
Speaker 9 (01:30:56):
Warriors Cabs.
Speaker 14 (01:30:58):
They were very highly rated NBA Finals for obvious reasons,
DEEPH Curry, Lebron James the later part of the final series,
Kevin Durant, and some really good, interesting you know other
players Kyrie Irving, Draymond Greenklay Thompson. But you look at
the Indiana Pacers Oklahoma City Thunder Final this past year. Yeah,
(01:31:19):
they had star poal with Shay Golders, Alexander and Tyris Colburn,
but two small market teams, two teams that didn't really
draw the needle nationally, but they played such great, compelling
basketball that was a ratings gold as well. And so
I think again it's about the stained parody and allowing
a team like Oklahoma City in Indiana to keep that
(01:31:42):
core as long as possible because most of that core,
again have been players that they've drafted and developed. Now again,
if they've gotten, you know, a key free agent or
they made a key trade like a Pascal Biakham with
the Pacers, that's a different story. But when you looking
at the Thunder, Shay Go, just Alexander, Jalen Williams, Chet Hongrin.
Speaker 7 (01:32:04):
They should.
Speaker 14 (01:32:04):
They have earned the right to be able to retain
those guys as long as possible without additional penalties because
they drafted and developed them.
Speaker 2 (01:32:11):
I wonder if an amended new version of the old
Larry Bird rule might be in order so you can
at least retain your talent.
Speaker 15 (01:32:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (01:32:19):
I mean, just as we've learned with the NBA and
labor talks, they're always ongoing and a lot of times,
you know, a new labor deal is to bridge to
the next labor deal, and also it's to prevent a lockout.
Sometimes it doesn't happen. Thankfully for the NBA recently it
has they haven't had a lockout from twenty eleven. But
I strongly suspect that both owners and the players Association
(01:32:44):
are going to want to revisit this role because it's
hams trum both the both parties here, and a lot
of times both of those parties have different agendas. In
this case, there's a mutual you know, I think benefit
for them to change this.
Speaker 2 (01:32:59):
Wrap it up. Mark Mendina, Medina, Magic and Ernie Frouders show,
Fox Sports Radio or NBA Guru or insider. All right,
I am of the belief this is not going to
be Lebron James last year. We'll see. No one knows,
but I feel pretty secure in the knowledge that it's
just not going to be. Now I'm hearing floating in
(01:33:20):
the wind that there could be as many let's fast
forward to the summer of twenty twenty six. I do
not believe Mark Walter will he'll he'll drive Lebron to
the airport. I think he'll have had enough of Lebron.
That's just my opinion. But here's where I'm going with that.
I'm hearing there could be as many as three teams
that actually reach out to Lebron in the summer of
(01:33:43):
twenty twenty six, potentially the Calves, the MAVs and the
Golden State Warriors. Are you hearing that or are you
hearing anything VSA VI Lebron and this not being his
last year?
Speaker 9 (01:33:55):
Yeah, I think it's way too early. I mean, teams
are you know, obviously prepared, wearing contingency plans, and I
want to be surprised those teams that you listed are
part of that, as well as the Lakers. But you know, frankly,
they have to have a whole season to go through
this because the ultimate variable that's going to determine.
Speaker 14 (01:34:13):
This is father time and how well how much will
that variable go into play With how good of a
player he is, We've seen he's playing an all star
caliber levels so far. He's not the same player as
he was in his prime, but still all star caliber level.
Does he fall off a cliff with that from both
a health and production standpoint or does he sustain that
(01:34:36):
moving forward? Then I think the next benchmark is what
price is Lebron James expecting. Again, it's going to depend
on how well he's playing, But you know some teams
have cap sphase. I think the Lakers. I don't think
they're opposed to keeping him. It's just a matter of
how much money it is. And I think the reason
why they're not signing the extension is that they want
(01:34:58):
to have that flexed ability so they don't have to
make a decision August tenth, twenty twenty five, since you know,
they have ten months to figure that out and a
whole season to see how all these different variables sort out.
So I think that that variable number one with Lebron
(01:35:19):
it's his own expectations. He's made it clear that he
doesn't want to be a player like Vince Carter that's
going to just keep prolonging his career just for the
sake of it. He's not going to want to be
a role player. He's not going to want to be
a player that's taking that minimum contracts or you know,
even you know, the five point five million, with the
(01:35:40):
mid level he's going to expect maybe not max level,
but still pretty high. So it's really a matter of
is he playing well enough, is he healthy enough? But
warn't that contract and going to go from there. I
think the only scenario where I could see him doing
that that minimum type of thing is with Cleveland because
of the hometown connection. I think even that's the stretch
(01:36:03):
because if he does that is he's not going to
get credit for any championship they win. It's going to
be about, oh, yeah, you were just being a mercenary
and all that. So I don't think it's his last year,
But I also don't know how all this stuff's gonna
play out, And frankly, no one does.
Speaker 2 (01:36:21):
Well as far as any of his statements, with all
due respect to Lebron, I don't know anything's possible. Right
Bob Euker wants hit a home run off Sandy Kofax.
So anything's possible. But Lebron with all I say this,
with all due regard. If Lebron told me he was
going to be eighty and Sunday tomorrow, I buy three
top coats. He isn't no credibility with that, with anything
(01:36:43):
he says. So let's see what he does. Let mean, well,
ten seconds of overtime here. I can't see the Lakers
giving him a farewell tour this year, do you? And
he's gonna want one, but I can't see that, can you.
Speaker 14 (01:37:00):
Well, here's the thing. I mean, if you want me
to make a click the quick go ahead, it's not
like Kobe. Here's the reason why it's hard to do
this for both parties. It's not like Kobe Bryant, not
because oh he was this beloved Laker. It's because Kobe's
retirement was crystallized because his body was banged up and
Kobe saw the ray on the wall. And I think
(01:37:20):
that's the challenging part for both the Lakers and Lebron.
If he's still playing at this high of a level,
I don't think even Lebron, whose attention seeking all that,
is going to be within the having that kind of
thought process of winning that farewell Tour because he still
has a chance to win a title. And I think
that's also what makes things complicated for him on when
(01:37:43):
his final year will be. If he has an injury
and is going through struggles, that's in a weird way,
going to make this a lot easier because he knows
that he's not the same player as he once was,
but a good problem on his hands. The same thing
with the Lakers is that he's the five the odds
at least still playing at All Star caliber.
Speaker 2 (01:38:03):
And this is the guy who said ring culture is overrated.
So we could go on all night. No, it would
be a good back and forth, and it's it's really
an imponderable And look, you know, we all saw Kobe
sixty point game in his swans on he played sixty
six games in his final year, so he rallied, you know.
(01:38:26):
And Kobe is to me a lot more introspective and
much he has a lot more depth, just a different
human being.
Speaker 14 (01:38:33):
In every without a doubt, Bernie. But I mean I
covered that Lakers team. They're terrible. They had the worst
record in franchise history. He was battling injuries, he has
his worst shooting percentage of his career, and that very
much set the tone on why he was accepting a
farewell tour, as well as saying, you know in November
(01:38:53):
it's his last season. If he was on a playoff
caliber team, he would have not gone through that, and
it would have been a much different context because he's
still had a shot. So again, even though Lebron is
a different player, the way he does things that's differently
than Kobe, I think the common thing is that because
he's healthy, it's a much different thought process than It's
(01:39:18):
very clear this is his final year.
Speaker 2 (01:39:21):
Fair, and I don't know that Lebron's going to be
healthy this company. We'll see.
Speaker 14 (01:39:26):
I know he takes a call he's not gonna play
all eighty two, but I think he'll be mostly available.
Speaker 9 (01:39:30):
And when he's been available, he's played mostly at.
Speaker 10 (01:39:32):
A high level.
Speaker 2 (01:39:33):
That's fair. I agree, Mark. We'll see you next week. Man,
appreciate you.
Speaker 9 (01:39:37):
I appreciate you.

Stop a little bit more into this MICHAEH. Partson's Jerry
Jones thing, remember the other day. Don't lose any sleep
over it. Let's unpack this. That's a very cryptic message
in my view. I'm Bernie fradlewer Com toy line from
the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked
you listen to the Bernie Frale Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:40:18):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio

Speaker 2 (01:40:29):
Al right back of the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports
Radio come to you live from the Fox Sports Radio
Studios here in Las Vegas. We will take you all
the way up to three am Pacific six am Eastern
before we hand it up to the capable steady hand
of the great Andy Furman. Now Saturday to see today's Sunday,
(01:40:51):
August tenth. So this would have been Saturday, August second.
Famous last words, don't lose any sleep over it. That
was the warning Jerry Jones passed along to the media,
basically saying, step off, relaxed, don't worry, nothing to see here.
Right after Michael Parsons said he wanted to be traded
(01:41:13):
and sent the letter to everybody who wanted to read
it that I don't want to be a cowboy anymore.
Jerry Jones is actually quite dismissive of it, saying, look,
we're quote in good shape in terms of negotiations for
a massive contract extension, and that for some put some
cold water on the hysteria when it looked like the
(01:41:36):
relationship between Jerry Jones and Michael Parsons was crumbling, crumbling,
falling faster than an anvil and a bugs Bunny cartoon.
But here's the deal on one side of the coin,
and I think I was on this side. This is
just simply another one of the Jerry Jones holding court
side shows. And by the way, make no mistake, Jerry
(01:41:56):
loves attention. There's about to be a docu series on Netflix,
I think sometime in September, and uh, that'll be good
for Jerry's ego, and a lot of people just feel
that he'll eventually throw money at this deal and pay
Michael or over pay him, just like he did with
Cee Lamb and Dak and you know, all the way
(01:42:17):
back throughout the years. But there are other people that
are very smart, other people that are shrewd, other people
that are maybe closer to the situation that don't necessarily
agree with that. As a matter of fact, they're I'm
actually hearing some some pessimissm some pessimism excuse me from
(01:42:39):
from folks. Now they might that doesn't mean that Parsons
and the cowboys might eventually get a deal done. And
just like the other ones, it's all you know, it's
all peaches and cream, and they all they're all right
off into the sunset and Dallas goes seven and ten again.
But for that matter, to be settled in the way
(01:43:01):
that people assume it might not might have been one
of those crowds that assumed it might is met with
skepticism by a lot of people because apparently they're far
apart on numbers, and I think more people are nonplussed
and kicked off at the process. How they got to
this point and finally this new deal you see in
the NFL, this holding right players show up. They don't
(01:43:23):
want to pay fifty thousand a day, which is not
recoverable as a fine in the National Football League, but
they don't want to get hurt either, and they don't
want to lose out. And so eventually there's going to
be a real game. And if Mike is not paid
before opening day, does he suit up? What does he do?
This kid get really weird. They're just not very good vibes.
(01:43:47):
And even though Jerry Jones tries to spend it in
a way that only Jerry Jones can with the way
he does on his radio shows and with the media,
and they never never saw a microphone he didn't like.
Right now, he's at a deficit because there are a
lot of angry people from what I'm hearing, all right.
They there's one angle to this story that implies that
(01:44:11):
Jerry Jones and his son Stephen, who's the executive VP
of the Dallas Cowboys, have taken it very personal, I think,
and they've they've they've taken great umbrage to the fact
that they believe that, at least in their opinion, Michael
Parsons agreed to a framework of a deal about five
(01:44:32):
months ago and isn't honoring it now. Parsons he has
aside in the story too. It's it's only natural that
he'd be ticked off because you'll hire agents for a reason.
And if the cowboys are trying to freeze out his
agent and hold them to terms he claims that were
never finalized, you've got a real hat peel and McCoy
(01:44:52):
deal happened here now, it stands to reason. David Mulligata,
he's the agent. The name of the agent for Michaeh Parsons.
If all this has happened is the way we've been told.
He feels very disped by Jerry Jones. And Jerry Jones
I guess he was very candidate open just earlier this week.
(01:45:15):
There hasn't been any communication between Michaeh Parsons agent and
Jerry in four months. So who can you blame? I
think unfortunately in this situation, if you peel back the onion,
there's blame to go around. Okay, every time Jerry Jones
tries to engage in direct negotiations with a player, it's
(01:45:41):
what you know, what word am I looking for here.
It's fairly well nonsensical. It can be a little patronizing,
but it's also ineffective because there's a reason players higher agents,
and this is a procedure that's long been established by
players associations in all leagues. It represents everybody's collective interest.
It's a process, it's a it's an obvious linear process
(01:46:04):
that should be honored. And Jerry Jones knows better. I mean,
he's an owner, he's an employer. He understands that. You know,
it probably his best interest as well to honor the
process because maybe these deals get done faster, his player
can focus on playing and not be distracted. They're rules, right,
(01:46:26):
and I think you have it's disrespectful to the agent,
it's disrespectful to Michael Parsons. And Michael Parsons has a
right while he's focusing on being a football player to
have someone who's trained and licensed in this area to
handle his money side, handle his business side. So I've
(01:46:48):
referenced that Michael Parsons, maybe he shouldn't have alluded to
money if that's what happened. Apparently they tried that with
Dak Prescott and he turned he turned to you know,
he turned to she Can said no, you talked to
my agent. Then ever spent out of control, and then
you know, you've got a situation that we're hearing that
(01:47:09):
Jerry won't return. Mulligate has calls, but they have I
don't know. So part of the issue here is that
you're talking about one of the most powerful and respected
agents in the NFL, and having observed how Ceedee Lamb
and Dak Prescott and some of the names I've mentioned
in the past, going all the way back to Emmon
Smith in nineteen ninety three, ended up sort of in
(01:47:32):
the same conundrum that Michael Parson says, is it fair
that he maybe should have seen this come and given
Jerry Jones in his past history. But somehow I don't
want to be accusatory here because I don't know. I
don't know. Is it possible. There was a substantive conversation
between the agent and Michael Parsons and said, Micah, whatever
(01:47:55):
you do, do not let Jerry Jones talk numbers with you.
If he comes out of his mouth, you give it,
you know, a very adamant reply. You're going to have
to discuss that with my agent. And if he tries
to go, you know, do an end run on you,
or if he tries to you know, you know, headfake you,
(01:48:15):
you basically say no, I thank you, but no, I
got to go do this drill over here. So if
we're being honest here, you know, Parsons, Michael Parsons, there's
some culpability as well. Okay, now you kind of got
to give my all pass. Maybe in his mind he
(01:48:35):
was saying, Okay, why not I want to get this done.
We can certainly discuss the mechanics of a deal. We
can discuss the framework. Okay, it should have never gotten
that far. That's bad formed by both sides. Again, last
September wasn't that long ago. We're all old enough to remember.
Dak got that four year, two hundred and forty million
(01:48:56):
dollar extension about ten minutes before this season started. But
it's how been reported that Jerry Jones tried to negotiate
directly with Dak Prescott as well, but according to people
that were close to the situation and his agent, Todd Frantz,
Dak shut it down said, nope, talk to my agent period.
And if it's true that subsequent to that, Jerry Jones
(01:49:19):
is refusing to return David Malagatea's calls, and it bothered
Michael Parsons that much. Maybe he shouldn't have reported to
training camp in the first place. We know that you're
subjected to some big time fines, big time forty to
fifty grand a day, and if you miss a preseason
game that could be as much as a million dollars
(01:49:41):
a million three for every preseason game missed. But those
might have been waivable at the team's discretion, which if
it happens and you strike a deal, it Micah gets
the deal he wants, you know, forty million a year,
five years whatever, one hundred and twelve men guaranteed. I
don't know what he wants. I really don't know. But
see once Michael Parsons showed up to Dallas camp, and
(01:50:05):
I'm not blaming him because from what I think I
know about Michael Carson's he's a pretty straight up guy.
Maybe not everybody loves him. I heard one of the
callers say there's maybe they know some things I do own,
But from what I've seen, the way he conducts his
business seems like a pretty straight up guy to me.
But under the terms of the CBA between the NFL
and the Players Association. Once Michael Parsons showed up in camp,
(01:50:29):
he basically kicked his leverage out the window and his
options were down to nothing now because he's in camp.
If Michael Parsons were to bolt camp, the Cowboys legally
could send him quote a five day letter giving them
the right to put him on the reserve left squad
list if he doesn't return within five days. And once
(01:50:49):
your place down that list, a player can be shut
down for the season without pay, and his contract rolls
into the next year. So now you're losing valuable free
agent accumulation time. That would be a scorch or. It's
option for both sides. Do I think it to get
to that point. No, No, because Mike is still slated
to make twenty four million this year and he says
(01:51:12):
he wants to win, And that would be a dumb
move for Jerry Jones because it's just throwing more gas
on the fire on what is becoming a circus. They
just need to put up a tent. It's getting worse
by the year, and they went off a cliff last year,
the Cowboys did, and I don't expect him to do
much better this year. That tweet from August first that
(01:51:32):
Michael Parsons said thank you Dallas with all the emojis. Man,
I grew up cheering, you know, for the Cowboys in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
But I no longer want to be held with these
closed door negotiations without my agent. I don't want to
do this. I don't want to be a cowboy. Blah
blah blah. But Parsons didn't bolt camp. He showed up.
He looks like he's here there to stay. I don't
(01:51:54):
know what his activity level has been, but rather than
take the chance, he's doing the old quote hold in.
He's participating in meetings, but he's not practicing. He's not
in pads. And I hear he's quote citing a back injury.
Speaker 6 (01:52:09):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:52:10):
Jalen Ramsey, who wanted out of Jacksonville six years ago,
I think, did the same thing. He told his team
to back his back hurt, and he missed several games
before the Jaguars just shipped him to the Rams, and
then magically, miraculously, his back troubles cleared up and he
played in a game just a few days after the
trade and stayed. Was didn't miss any games the rest
(01:52:31):
of the season. From you know, there's other brinksmanship that
goes on. If you recall last year with the forty
nine Ers, a very good receiver by the name of
Brandon Nyuk. Now he's not represented by David Bullagata, he
staged the training camp hold in telling the final the
forty nine Ers his back was sore. Tell what I'm
gonna do. We're gonna continue this because I also want
(01:52:53):
to get to another key player who's not getting paid
and we're hearing his ages being held against him. We'll
share that as well as this off you know, off
the field brinksmanship continues between player and owner. I Bernie
Fraddle were coming to a line from Las Vegas Fox
Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked or listening to the
(01:53:13):
Bernie Fraddle Show Fox Sports Radio. All right, we're back
at the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio, continuing on
with the Jerry Jones Michael Parson saga. We'll see where
it goes. But the reason I invoke the name of
Brandon Ayuk is that this is nothing new when you
have players that have a different view than their employer has.
(01:53:38):
Brad and Ayuk is a talented receiver. His contract situation
was similar to Michael Parsons, he was a wide receiver
for the Niners. He did the hold in a telling
the Niners his back was sore. Now, I's got a
little different personality, he told he has mood swings, and
(01:53:58):
he has a situation where his his you know, desires
can can fluctuate and he can be difficult. And Kyle Shanahan,
I think, perceived Brandon Ayuk, while talented, to be a
little immature. And so the Niners said, hell with it,
We're not putting up with this, Okay. They hit a
bit of a breaking point, and they got into some
(01:54:20):
trade discussions with multiple teams. At one point though they
medically cleared Ayuk to return, and he's still elected to
stay away from practice. And then when that happened, it
only took about twenty four hours. The Diners worked out
of trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the next day
(01:54:41):
we're told that after a conversation with Brandon Ayuk convinced
Mike Kyle shann and excuse me, that he would accept
the team's latest contract offer. I don't think he was
too happy about it, and he met John Lynch and
said no, no, no, I don't know. So there was drama.
Speaker 10 (01:55:04):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:55:05):
The bottom line, he didn't get traded to Pittsburgh at
the time he got paid IOH did, and then he
proceeded to have a very slow start to the season
and then he has an ACL in mid October that
cost him the regular the rest of the year. In retrospect,
he could have ended up with Pittsburgh and if you're
(01:55:27):
if you're Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch, you might be
wishing he had. Okay, So the difference, there's multiple differences here.
Even though he's just like a Yogi Barra thing, there's
different similarities. Okay, you got a disgruntled player, you got
a team that's fighting back. But the Niners were dealing
from a much more better position of strength than the
(01:55:49):
Cowboys were. Remember, they were coming off their second Super
Bowl appearance in what five years, their fourth NFC championship
game in five years, and held the Cowboys. He hadn't
won a playoff game in three, you know, thirty years,
And now you've got a rookie coach and Brian Schottenheimer
who's trying to figure out what the hell's going on,
and the street runs easter or west, and he's in
(01:56:12):
this high profile job with a high profile team and
a marquee team. And you know, Jerry Jones can say,
don't lose sleep over it. But but based on what now?
Jerry can say that because he could wake up tomorrow
and say, I'll tell you what, Micha, I'm gonna give
you forty one million a year. You'd be the highest
paid defensive player, and you're going to you know, we'll
give you a five year deal. We're gonna guarantee eighty
(01:56:33):
percent of it wrong. He can do anything he wants.
Like the earlier callers said, the minute are the NFL
prints money. They really do. But the only reason Jerry
would be optimistic is he knows he's got that in
his hip pocket. Okay, if he hasn't talked to MICA's
agent in four months, what did you do call him
(01:56:53):
up all of a sudden and say, Okay, here's a
better deal for you. Right by the way, Dallas has
some leverage. You know, Parsons is due to make twenty
four million this season because he's on the fifth year
option of his rookie deal, and the Cowboys hold even
another card. Michael Parsons could be franchise tagged after the
season and again after the next one. And you know
(01:57:17):
we saw Kirk Cousins take advantage of that in Washington,
a little different situation. And so here's now where the
staredown becomes. Does Jerry believe that Michael Parsons will stick
to is I'm injured. I can't play when the season
opener rolls around, or even through the entire season. I
remember Le'Veon Bell tried this and it didn't work out.
(01:57:40):
So this is where it gets dizy, because the clock
is ticking and one of these two sides is miscalculating.
If Jerry Jones is the one miscalculating this time, and
Michael Parsons has a backbone and says, hell with you guys,
I will sit out the season, Okay, I don't know.
Then at that point I guess you really can't out
(01:58:00):
of trade. And at that point, I mean, if you're
this really wants to get ugly, you can't even rule
out a Cowboys suspension. Then it's presumed that Michael Parsons
with finally grievance. So if Jerry's telling you not to
lose sleep, I don't know how true Cowboy fans don't
(01:58:20):
lose sleep all right, this whole bad back routine, the
you know, the banana and the tailpipe routine. Jerry Jones
scoffed that his injury, said, helly, we hurt six six
games last year. There's just a lot of costic rhetoric
going back and forth. So it doesn't feel good. And
so my you know, my statements that I've made it
earlier shows Oh what the hell they're gonna get this
(01:58:42):
worked out? Man? Look look at look at Jerry's history.
How many times he's done this. Look look at what's
happened over the years. Every time you turn around. This
is just the old Jerry Jones playbook. Right. Em ITTT.
Smith held out for the first two games in nineteen
ninety three, and the Cowboys started out zero to two.
Who they signed him? They end up winning a Super Bowl?
Go back to back? All right, July at twenty nineteen,
(01:59:05):
which is not that long ago, Jones said to Ezekiel Elliott,
we don't need to have a rushing champion to win
the Super Bowl. So Ezekiel Elliott held out. Then Jerry
proceeded to give Ezekiel Elliott the largest running back contract
in league history, which ended up in a bunch of
dead cat money. And then in Augusta, twenty twenty three,
same thing with Zach Martin, who was an All Pro guard.
(01:59:26):
He got paid Augusta, twenty twenty four. I don't have
any hearnancy to get done. Then he proceeded to pay
c Ede Lamb. Then he proceeded to pay Dak Prescott.
So that's why I said, ah, this will work out.
But in the last week, we're hearing things that lead
me to believe it's a little uglier. Coming up, We've
got an FC East preview, an NFC East preview, and
(01:59:47):
another player in the same boat. Keep it locked, Bernie
Fraddles Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:59:52):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:59:56):
That's right, you heard the man. Bernie Fraddles Show keeps
rolling right along. My name is Bernie Faddlewick County Line
from the Fox Sports Radio compound here in Las Vegas.
Take up to three am Pacific, six am Eastern. Plenty
of business to get to, including and before I get
(02:00:16):
to the AFC East preview, then we'll do the NFC
East preview. I got to touch on this as well
because it's semi relatable with the Jerry Jones Michael Parsons debacle.
Take the case of the Washington Commandos. I hate that name,
by the way, Commander is stupid. It's but they're a
good team. They're a good team. They got a lot
of money. There's only four teams that have more projected
(02:00:40):
cap space for twenty twenty six, when Washington should have
about sixty three million dollars available, and in twenty twenty
seven their cap room will jump all the way to
one hundred and ninety million dollars, second most in the NFL.
And they got a terrific fi on quarterback and he's
(02:01:01):
not even eligible for extension until twenty twenty seven. It's
good to be a commander. I still hate the name.
Still good to be a commander.
Speaker 18 (02:01:10):
So why.
Speaker 2 (02:01:12):
Why does Washington, at least so far, refuse to pay
Terry McLaurin. This, dude is the goods. Sixteen touchdowns last
season was only one behind the league leader at Jamar Chase.
And there's the final year Terry McLaurin checked us out.
(02:01:34):
And there's the final year of his contract with only
two point eight million of his twenty five million dollars
salary guaranteed. What are they waiting for? You'd think they'd
want to get him extended coming off the fabulous season
they had last year, trying to build upon it. And
not only has Terry McLaurin been a star on the field,
(02:01:56):
he's a pillar in the community. Hasn't missed a game
five years. And every time Terry McLaurin lines up, he's
covered by the number one corner every time. He's never
had a teammate top seven hundred yards receiving, yet he's
recorded five straight seasons of one thousand plus yards. How
(02:02:19):
do you not want Terry McLaurin around. This could be
the culprit and if this is the culporate, shame on
the Commandos. In September, Terry McLaurin turns thirty, and he
plays in a league that tends to put receivers on
the shelf after you know when they turn thirty. As
a matter of fact, of the sixteen highest paid receivers
(02:02:41):
in the National Football League, only Tyreek Hill will be
in his thirties in twenty twenty five now, and he'll
make He's schedule to make thirty million this year. Who
would you rather have Terry McLaurin or Tyreek Hill. I'll
give you all the time you want, No, you don't
(02:03:01):
you get it's Terry mclauren or your first line from
front of the Bodoby McLaurin, Look, Jamar Chase, it's Jamar
Chase and everybody else. But you can't tell me. You
can't mention Terry McLaren in the same conversation as Justin Jefferson, C.
D Lamb, DK Metcalf, Garrett Wilson, A J. Brown, Right
it down the line, right, even Brandon Ayuko. I talked
about a minute ago he got his thirty million. One
(02:03:25):
of the things that also may be plaguing. I talked
about the real estate comparison comp Courtland Sutton. Okay, be nice.
If I could speak English Courtland Sutton, he might have
hurt Terry McLaurin without realizing it. See, Terry McLaurin was
(02:03:46):
drafted the same year as DK Metcalf. He's only twenty
seven years old. He recently received a deal in the
thirty three million dollars per year range, and that should
have been a comp for McLaren at least until Courtland Sutton,
who also turns thirty in a month or two, just
signed a four year contract in Denver at an average
annual salary of just twenty three million dollars. That's a
(02:04:09):
ten million dollars gap. I think that's being used against
Terry McLaurin, but I don't know. So is it possible
McLaurin gets the contract he wants. Here's what's interesting. The
commandos have said they want to get a long term
deal done. Okay, win, Maybe they don't want to get
(02:04:29):
it done at thirty three million a year. And you know, yes,
McLaurin and mccalf were drafted the same year in twenty nineteen, unfortunately,
and they have similar production. And metcalf got thirty three million.
Metcalf is two years younger. So look, I think if
minors standing, McLaurin has also made a trade request. But
(02:04:49):
if he ends up with the deal in Washington before
you know, but by the time the season starts, you've
got a really tremendous roster to give Jaden Daniels. You've
we got more options, I mean, you've got more protection,
more offensive options. It just seems nonsensical to me that
they would wave goodbye to Terry Lauren for the reasons
(02:05:12):
I just gave, But I don't know what else to say.
So well, these are the things we got to watch,
all right. We talked about the Buffalo Bills and Hard
Knocks during the midnight hour, and and you know, there
has never been a team on Hard Knocks that even
got to the super Bowl. The closest were the New
York Jets of twenty ten, led by Mark Sanchez. They
(02:05:33):
got to the AFC Championship Game, but they didn't make
it to the super Bowl. So there's never been an
AFC check that. There's never been a Hard Knocks team
featured on Hard Knocks that made it to the super Bowl,
much less wonted. So is there a Hard Knocks person?
No one really believes that. I don't, but it's happened.
Maybe there's something to it. But the reality of it
(02:05:53):
is the Buffalo Bills, who are prohibitive favorites to win
the AFC East sixty, which means if you just want
to win one hundred dollars on the Buffalo Bills to
win the FC East, you got to post to sixty.
The Patriots or second one hundred dollars are bringing back
five hundred, the Dolphins one hundred dollars are bringing back
seven hundred, and the Jets one hundred dollars are bringing
(02:06:14):
back sixteen hundred, but you're better. I'll probably lighten that
money on fire at least to keep you warm. Yeah,
Jets aren't going anywhere. Sorry, sorry, I don't know rooting
against him, I don't care. It's just just saying. The
Buffalo Bills own the AFC East now. They've even improved
their defensive playing key situations right. The Bills are massive
(02:06:37):
favorites to win this division for a good reason. They've
got the NFL's MVP and Josh Allen. He's the ultimate
wild card in the race for another AFC crown East Crown,
and the only thing that could prove to be a
hindrance for their chances to win the division is the
truth of the matter is, while their defense is solid,
(02:06:58):
they don't make the clutch plays on the defensive set
of the ball. Believe it or not, The Bills rank
last in the NFL and pressure rate last year twenty
percent whenever their opponent had a chance to take the
lead in the fourth quarter overtime. Are they playing cautious?
The Buffalo Bills also rank twenty ninth in sack rate
over that stretch as well. Not only that, Buffalo had
an inability to get off the field on third down
(02:07:19):
in twenty twenty four, and that includes the playoffs. This
is this is a true stat against Buffalo on third down.
Their opponents converted forty four percent of the time, which
was the third highest in the league. Now, in the offseason,
they did shore things up. They signed Joey Bosa as
(02:07:41):
a free agent to help improve those units with pass
rushing and all the things I just mentioned. If he
can stay healthy. They drafted a corner Maxwell Harriston. Man.
Can that dude run? Oh my god, I think he
ran like a four to one nine forty. He's a
terrific cornerback out of Kentucky. Should help. They'll also have
(02:08:02):
Matt Malano back after he missed the first chuck of
the year last year with a torn biceps injury. He
did get two sacks and Buffalo three playoff games and
managed to hit the quarterback a lot. But if you know,
for Buffalo to go over their win total of eleven
and a half, which I think they're a thirteen win team,
but they've been there, done that. One of the earlier
(02:08:23):
callers said, it's, you know, the road to the I
still believe in the AFC. The road to the super
Bowl goes through Kansas City. Forget what happened to the
super Bowl. Okay, that's over. Philly beat him, I get it.
Beat him like a run and mule. But you're gonna
see a focus, pissed off, tough Kansas City team, and
you know, throw throw the marbles into a you know,
(02:08:45):
a mixer. You're gonna have Buffalo, You're gonna have Kansas City,
probably Baltimore. It's hard to get excited about them though.
It's it's like deja bull over again every year, Yogi.
But I'm getting off on a tangent. I really like
Buffalo to win the AFC East. Can Miami rebounded for
them to have any sort of a shot. Remember they
(02:09:06):
were eight to nine last year, missed the playoffs for
the first time under Mike McDaniel. But they want to
challenge for the division. And that's all going to pinge
on one thing to a tag of a Lowe's availability.
He only played eleven games last year due to more
concussion problems, and there's always a fear of Tua missing
(02:09:26):
time due to these continued head injuries. It's a cloud
that looms over the organization. But this is a pivotal
year for Miami, and the thing is, you got to
be fair with Tua. When Tua is on the field,
Miami has one of the more explsive offenses in the league.
When to his started games last year, they were six
and five and averaged twenty four points a game. When
(02:09:49):
it was anybody else, they were two and four and
averaged well less than that, and their offense looked like
a drunk crossing an icy street. They were not solid.
Now you better get out your rosary. He might have
rope burns from here, rosary praying nothing happens to Tua
because you got Zach Wilson as your backup and quinn Ewers.
Maybe they have some quarterback depth on paper, but they
(02:10:12):
need Tua for them to be competitive. Let's be honest. Now,
let's say you do get a full season out of Tua,
who's clearly the franchise quarterback, He's still going to have
to level up again against the team's top league's top teams,
because over the last couple of seasons, the Dolphins with
a healthy Tua has been a club that can only
beat up on back competition, but then they struggle against
(02:10:36):
when they step up in class against better teams. Right,
they're legitimate splits here. These are stats that do not lie. Okay,
When Tua starts against opponents that are under five hundred
or five hundred or worse, sixteen to two is a
starter thirty five touchdowns, nine interceptions. He's played started ten
(02:10:57):
games against above five hundred teams in the last couple
of years, one in nine, thirteen touchdowns, twelve interceptions. That
is a dichotomy that has to improve dramatically. Number two again,
he got a four year, two hundred and twelve million
dollar extension last offseason, and you want him to live
(02:11:17):
up to it. He wants to live up to it.
But he's gonna have to be healthy and they're gonna
have to step up against competition. The Dolphins win total
is eight and a half. Do I think they're gonna
win nine games? That's an absolute flip of the coin,
and I would not bet the over. Now the Jets,
I think there'll be a distant third. They gambled with
justin fields. It's a roll of the dice. He's on
(02:11:37):
his third team in three years. Here's a reason for that.
And there are other quarterbacks in the league, like Sam Darnold,
who've broken out when they've gotten to their third team
or fourth team at Baker Mayfield, even Gino Smith. Okay,
but I don't put Justin Fields in the category with
any of those guys. I just still think he's a
(02:11:58):
glorified read option only quarterback whose default mechanism is to run.
He's a stellar individual, He's a consummate professional. He's a
great guy in the clubhouse. He's fourteen to thirty for
a reason. I don't want to hear any excuses. And
with his style of play, he's prone to injury as well.
He's big and he can run fast. I get that. However,
(02:12:18):
linebackers run fast too and have passed his prologue unless
he learns to really operate from the pocket, make his reads,
get the ball out on time, and be accurate. I
don't have great belief in the Jets with Justin Fields.
Everybody's telling us in his six starts he showed some promise. Well,
Mike Tomlins, this is not his first barbecue. He might
(02:12:40):
have been four and two as a starter, but there
were too many games that was at the Raider game.
There's wide receivers roaming around and Justin Field doesn't see him.
He doesn't I don't think he sees the field, but
he has done a little bit of better job of
limiting turnovers. We'll see if he can make Tomy throws.
We know he'll be dynamic with his legs. But it
doesn't matter. The Jets are going to have to be
(02:13:01):
really scrappy on defense, take advantage of opportunities. Their defense
was stout last year. Their defense held their opponents to
a five yards per play average that's second in the league.
But they didn't have an offense to compliment And you
know why. Now the Jets' win total is five and
a half. I think you'll get an effort out of that.
(02:13:22):
They can win six games, might win seven, but they're
not going anywhere now. The New England Patriots have all
this buzz surrounding them all right, mainly because they hired
Mike Rabel and Drake May appears to be ascending. He
appears to be improving, and he had a very promising,
very strong rookie season, I thought, and he's supposed to
(02:13:42):
be better going into year two. And Rabel's trying to
mold New England into his image and develop May and
create this culture that was similar to years ago when
they had those great, great, great defenses. Okay, they did
sign Carlton Davis. He's an excellent cornerback.
Speaker 10 (02:14:00):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:14:00):
He pairs up with Christian goan Zalez, who's entering his
third year in the league and he was the second
team All Pro last year. They were top among the
top five cornerbacks in the league in terms of allowing
completion percentage against them. They've got an improved off defensive line.
New England does right. They added a guy by the
(02:14:22):
name of Milton Williams who has a Super Bowl ring
with the Eagles. He was outstanding with the Eagles. He
had the highest pressure rate of any individual player at
a quarterbacks So he has a tendency to get into
the backfield and they'll pair him up with Christian Barmore.
So look, they have a middle linebacker also in Robert Splane,
who's a high motor guy. He's the only player in
(02:14:44):
the NFL to record three hunderd tackles, five sacks, and
five interceptions in both of the last two seasons. So
I think you're going to see a breakout season in
New England. They're over under total is seven and a half.
That's a bargain. They won't go eight nine, they'll win nine.
I'm telling you they could win nine or ten games optimistically.
I can't say they'd win eleven. I don't know what
(02:15:05):
they're going to do in their division. We'll see what
they do against the Raiders week one. But all of
those four teams, okay, no one's on seating Buffalo. They're
a twelve thirteen win team. New England's a nine to
ten win team, maybe eleven. The Jets and the Dolphins
they got work to do, and you know they do.
(02:15:25):
Coming up, we'll talk about the NFC East and the
new fangled technology in pro football that they've talked about

Come to live from the Fox Sports Radio studios here
in Las Vegas. Before I get to the NFC East
preview and some things you might not know about, let
me take a minute to Tay Seth. I already hate.
(02:16:50):
Now you may have heard of hawkeye technology. Okay, I
don't hate hawkeye technology because it's used in in tennis
and I believe other facets of life which really exhibit
what sophisticated technology it is. Okay, but the NFL is
(02:17:14):
implementing Hawkeye technology. Is this primary method for measuring first
downs beginning this season that's going to replace the traditional
chain measurement. Now, if you've never heard of Hawkeye technology,
it's a virtual system that uses six AK cameras in
every stadium, and what it does is is going to
optically track the ball's position. And they tell us it's
(02:17:37):
going to improve efficiency and accuracy. Now you're going to
have the chain gang on the field as a secondary capacity,
but the Hawkeye system is intended to streamline the process. Okay,
what they're trying to do is get rid of manual
chain measurements. Yeah so far. If you're watching any of
the preseason games, they take forever yet another thing to
(02:18:02):
delay and slow down the damn game. You can get up,
go have a hot dog, a beer or two, come
back to your seat. They're still deciding whether it was
six inches short. What it does give you this specific distance.
There was a game I was watching on Saturday and
the announcers were having a comedy routine over it, and
they're saying, you know what, the chain game would have
had this thing done five minutes ago. Oh, it looks
(02:18:22):
like we have a decision. Oh oh no, we don't
wait doing or not? What do they do? They're like,
what are we doing here? These delay of games? It's
enough replay all the things that stop a football game.
This is one more So, Look, I'm not saying you
throw out the baby with the bathwater, but fix this
damn thing so it only takes a few seconds because
the chain game can run out there. Hell once at
(02:18:43):
one time. They even use the three by five card.
People know that story. So look it's Hawkeye in and
of itself is a terrific Sony innovation. And they're told
us the benefit of this would would make these decision
is faster than traditional chain measurement, and that will reduce
(02:19:03):
the time it takes to determine whether your team got
a first down or not. Right, and it's also supposed
to be a more accurate, precise measurement. Right, human error. Well,
they're still going to place the ball. I don't think
they're using the system to show them place the ball.
But look, NFL is gaga. All the sports are all
these technical advancements and modernization like robots and Major League Baseball.
(02:19:26):
You get right down down the line, please make it faster.
I guarantee you they're setting up for they're setting this
up to be another speed bump in you know, in
your football Sunday and that and that's the last thing
you want. So that's all I'm saying from now, I
got nothing in tawkeye technology, but if you're going to
use it in a football game, you know, let's go
pick up the pace. Come on, all right? The NFC East, now,
(02:19:52):
the AFC East is a one team race, Okay, win.
They ain't catching Buffalo and the Jets and and you
already how I feel about the Jets and Dolphins. I
like the Dolphins, and if two can stay healthy, but
it's always a big if. The NFC East is very
much looking like it's going to be a two team
race this year. Philadelphia. I talked to my guest earlier,
(02:20:12):
A mal Shaw, my NFL insider, there's a shot Philadelphia
could repeat hadn't been done in a long time. Okay,
can Saquon Barkley do that again? Four hundred and thirty
six carries last year in twenty games. The last time
that was that heavy of a load it was DeMarco
Murray and back in twenty fourteen. And to do that,
(02:20:34):
you know, it's risky. The human body can only take
so many hits. Philly doesn't have to be better than
they were last year. Most teams do right. They maintained
most continuity, but they did lose their offensive coordinator Kellen
Moore and eight key members of their defense, and no
teams saw their schedule get more difficult. Remember, the NFC
(02:20:58):
East this year has to play the NFC North and
the AFC West. Think about it. In addition to your division,
you got Detroit, Green Bay, No Chicago, not so much
in Minnesota, and the AFC West you got Denver, Kansas City,
the Chargers, Raiders maybe not so much. But last year
you had the NFC South and AFCFC North. So it's
(02:21:20):
gonna be no rest for the wicked in the NFC East. Okay, Now,
the last time the Eagles lost their coordinators a couple
of years ago, they dropped from like a what a
fifteen win team do an eleven win teams? Something like that.
They've made the playoffs that they got knocked out. Now
they've got some holes to fill. But bet against the
Eagles at your own risk. I think they win this division.
(02:21:43):
I do well. If they win it, who's the two
team race against. Well, clearly it's the Washington Commanders. Okay,
will Washington be better in twenty twenty five? Actually I
think they will. I think they will. Jade Daniels was
(02:22:05):
the big story last year. Everybody knows that. But one
of the reasons Jaden Daniels flourished, and this takes nothing
away from Jade Daniels, is Washington's offensive line was reminiscent
of the Hogs back in nineteen eighty eight. You got
(02:22:25):
a block and tackle. That's why they won twelve games.
Their offensive line allowed Jaden Daniels to do what he did,
and he did, and what do the Commanders do. They
reinforced their offensive line with Jeremy Tunsel and a very
good first round pick and a right tackle by the
(02:22:47):
name of Josh Connery. Still, they had this imposing defense
last year and it might be an unimposing defense this year.
That's going to create a bit of a more difficult path,
I think, okay, And as I just mentioned, the scheduled
(02:23:08):
difficulty is not something that you can readily dismiss. So
the key question that Washington will face this year, and
as I said, the key question for the Eagles is
can they hitch their wagon? Do Saquon Barkley? Because they
did last year, There's no question. The key question is
(02:23:29):
can Washington's defense complay complimentary football with their offense. They
had a priority to add size on the defense. The
defense needed it. The Commander's run defense allowed two yards
before contact, which is a fourth most of the league,
(02:23:50):
and four point eight yards per carry tied for the
third most. That has to improve. That's not a good statistic.
If you're allowing four point eight yards per carry. All
that does is open up passing lanes that had offs.
Teams to move the chains e clock, you get the
d you get the drill. All right, they do have
(02:24:10):
a breakout player though, I believe all right, Brian Robinson
Junior Washington does his contract year. He stood out in
mini camp and he's healthy. He's focused. Dan Quinn, who
has been raving about him, says, you can feel his
sense of urgency, you can feel his intensity. He had
a great offseason. If Brian Robinson Junior stays healthy, he'll
(02:24:35):
be Washington's version of Saquon Barkley. Maybe not like that, right,
but through week nine he averaged four point six yards
per carry. That's pretty good. They also got a stud
rookie named Jcory Krofsky, so I expect now they're not
going to sneak up on anybody like they did last
year the Commanders. That was just amazing what they did,
(02:24:59):
and to be fair to Detroit, Detroit was a complete
match unit with that defense by the time Washington got there.
So look, Washington and the Eagles will be the two
teams battling it out in that division, which leads us
to the Cowboys, who've been you know, a topping a
whipping boy topic fairly well consistently on the show tonight.
(02:25:26):
This is the key question that the Cowboys face. They've
got a rookie head coach in Brian Schottheimer, who I
don't think the guy's a dummy. I don't. He's been
around the block, but he's brand new. He's got to
learn on the job and the white hot intensity of
Dallas with you know, one hundred million sons staring down
at you, and it's just it's a circus act and
(02:25:47):
a soap opera to real combined into one. And I,
without being disrespectful, everybody felt that the shot and Schottenheimer
higher was underwhelming, an uninspiring, okay, and that kind of
speaks to the whole Dallas team and the whole Dallas franchise. Recently,
he replaces Mike McCarthy, who could win a playoff game
(02:26:11):
and was popular in a player's coach and you know,
had a couple of twelve win seasons, but you saw
how those playoffs ended again like a drunk a crossing
an icy street. Not good. It's been five years, by
the way, since Brian Schottenheimer was a full time play caller.
He's going to rely heavily on a healthy Dak Prescott
(02:26:31):
stepping up, way up, Seedee Lamb doing what he can do.
You also got a deep threat in George Pickens and
a kid Jake Ferguson who's out to make a name
for himself. Okay, now, the position to watch for Dallas
is running back because you know Tony door setting and
walking through that door. Everybody said all they had to
(02:26:53):
do last year was sign you Derrick Henry or Sakuon
Barkley or Josh Jacobs. They didn't, and I don't know
that that have made a difference. I really I don't
go to that would have made a difference. Instead, you
had the tandem of ric o'dowdell and Ezekiel Elliott. Oops. Okay,
this year they've got Javonte Williams, who's a shell of himself,
(02:27:13):
Miles Sanders and a fifth round pick name Jaden Blue,
probably better off with Vida Blue. So it's going to
be running back by committee, a quarterback who's never stepped
up when it mattered most, a rookie head coach. So
can the Cowboys be better than they were in twenty
twenty four? Eh, I'll give it a definite. Maybe because
(02:27:35):
they sucked last year. They allegedly having a healthier roster,
allegedly have an improved offensive line, and you've got George
Pickens who's a deep threat. Those are positives. Could their
offense go to the next level? And by the way,
I didn't even tell you who their defensive coordinator is,
(02:27:56):
Matt Eberflus, And it's hard to unsee what you saw
in Chicago with Matt Eberflus. But hope Spring's eternal. Okay,
maybe that defense can return to the fact that it
was a strength of the team two years ago, or
at least improved. Dallas allowed one hundred and thirty seven
yards on the ground per game last year, just a
(02:28:17):
disaster that ranked twenty ninth. And the Stoven's signed Michael
Parsons yet, which I talked about before, So it's presumed
that maybe gets worked out. But that's if everything goes right,
Schottenheim or Doctors still don't have a running game. I
just it's very hard to feel even remotely optimistic about Dallas.
(02:28:43):
You got to play the you know, you got to
play the Commandos twice, you got to play the Eagles twice,
and as I said earlier, you got the AFC West.
So the Cowboys are gonna have to play the Chargers, Chiefs, Raiders.
Speaker 6 (02:28:56):
And.
Speaker 2 (02:28:59):
Broncos three of the four. Three of those four teams.
And the Raiders can be pasky. They do weird things.
They went into Baltimore and beat Baltimore and Baltimore last year.
The year before, they beat Kansasy and Christmas Day in
Kansas City. You can't go to sleep on them. And
the Charge and the Cobbys are also gonna have to
tee it up against the against the huge AFC North
(02:29:22):
and f C West. So the NFC North, excuse me,
so you're gonna have the Lions, Bears, and Vikings and Packers.
So those are eight additional tough games, including the two
against the Commandos and the two again, that's twelve games
right there. I mean, the most optimistic, could they go
six and six in those games? I don't even know
if they could do that. So in Dallas, you know, again,
(02:29:48):
get your rosary out. You're gonna have a rope perns
from your rosary worrying about this team. Finally, the New
York Giants. Can they be better than they were in
twenty twenty four? Well, yeah that is they're not. Then
everybody better get their resumes in order.
Speaker 1 (02:30:03):
On paper, the.
Speaker 2 (02:30:04):
Team is improved. Their defensive line is talented, their secondary
is better. They signed a couple players, Paul Deebo and
Javon Holland their quarterback situation cannot possibly need be any
worse than it was last year. I like Tommy DeVito
just because I like saying the name, maybe because he's Italian.
I'm Italian. But Hell will be better off with Danny DeVito.
They're not gonna win. You know, he's fining in an emergency,
(02:30:26):
he's fine in a backup. And I know they had
to pay Zach to check that DAC sixty million. They
don't have to pay sixty million, but they did. They're
just definitely afraid of going back to the Quincy Carter
Drew Henson era. So are they gonna be better? They
can't be worst they're gonna have the league's toughest schedule, though,
based on both their opponents winning percentage from last year
and projected win totals for twenty twenty five, I think
(02:30:48):
the Cowboys are on their way or check that the
Giants are on their way to a six six winning season.
I just think they are. I think Jackson Dart is
gonna do well. Okay, that's the court, that's the position
you gotta watch. Here's your quarterback room. Russell Wilson, Jackson Dart,
Jamis Winston, Jamis Winston, and Tommy DeVito. Why couldn't they
(02:31:13):
have had the Giants on hard knocks this year? Some
of those conversations would have would have been epic, right,
But I understand that Russell Wilson has landed well in
New York and his leadership is winning some people over.
I'm not a Russell Wilson hater. He's a little goofy,
but the dude's been to two Super Bowls, one to one.
He's put up a massive, you know, numbers in his career.
(02:31:37):
So you got to give you got to give them
their due. But the real problem the Giants are going
to have, in addition to not great talent on offense
is their schedule. They open up against the Commanders, Cowboys, Chiefs,
and Chargers. They maybe they beat the Cowboys. I don't know.
Do you think they're beating the Commanders. I know it's
a fool's eron to try to do this exercise, but
(02:31:57):
work with me. Okay, there's our good buddy. Arnie Spanier
says the shows tonight. I don't think they're beating the Commanders.
I don't think they're beating Chiefs. I don't think they
beat the Chargers. That means you're either gonna open up
one in three or zero to four. And after that
you watch how fast the sky falls in Dallas, because
it always does. And we don't even know if they're
gonna sign Michael Parsons. I check that. What am I
talking about? Michael Parsons will play for the Giants. I'm
(02:32:17):
an idiot. If Russell Wilson, though, could just look serviceable
and win one on two of those games, then he'll
probably start a fifth game. But if they start out
zero to four, you got to go to Jackson Dart.
You're done. Twenty two year olds. He took more second
team reps. Look at the bottom. Look then Jameis Winston
(02:32:38):
did and he looked really good on in his debut.
Jackson Dark can play. He is their future.
Speaker 6 (02:32:44):
So there you have it.
Speaker 2 (02:32:45):
I like the Eagles to win it. The Commander's second
Cowboys and Giants put him in a blender. See what
you come up with. Coming up, we wrap up the show.
And there's a particular pitcher in Major League Baseball that
every fifth day fans really get their money's worth. But man,
he is stuck on a team that couldn't beat the
(02:33:08):
Hoboken Zephyrs. We'll talk about it coming up. I'm Bernie
Fredder or Company Line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie
Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, wrapping it
up on the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio. Com
to Lion from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Quick programming note, you'll notice that Mark Medina Medina Magic
(02:33:31):
on Fox Sports Radio. NBA Guru, his time slot for
his weekly hit is now one am Pacific time for
a Eastern time that will continue throughout football season. It's
not covering the NBA. It doesn't have its merits. We're
(02:33:53):
in the throws of football. We're thirteen days away from
the first college football games you'll have. They call it
week zero or a week negative one, whatever the hell
they call it. They're real college football games in thirteen days.
The NFL is here in fine feedl The storylines are
already bubbling over. People have asked me, will you be
(02:34:15):
having Steve Fessik on the physic five Fest? Will be
on again this year, not maybe every week. We've got
a lot of great football guests, experts, betting experts, insiders,
and you know, every time you sign on Saturday night,
then there's a full slate of college football that day,
in a full slate of NFL the next day, and
they'll already been a Thursday night game played. Who knows
what's happening. We got to bring in the latest, But
(02:34:35):
that doesn't mean we eliminate NBA.
Speaker 15 (02:34:38):
We just have.
Speaker 2 (02:34:39):
We'll have Mark Medina Magic, our NBA guru, at one am,
and then probably in January they're abouts, he'll resume and
the NBA will be in the throes of good season.
By the way, they're going to be real NBA games.
And seventy two days, there's that Friday night doubleheader we
talked about before I get to our mystery quarterback. Excuse me,
(02:35:02):
quarterback pitcher. I don't know if you watch the Raiders
Seahawks game on Thursday night, fans were a little uh
iracus it in Seattle, which they are want to be.
Probably many have been hooked up to a blender since
early that morning. One fan was taunting the players before
the game started. I think, and it's and he held
(02:35:24):
up this big sign that said, quote bigger bust Gino
or JaMarcus Russell. I mean that that's gonna hurt, That's
gonna leave the mark. You remember the then Oakland Raiders
drafted JaMarcus Russell first overall in two thousand and seven.
He went seven and eighteen as a starting quarterback, played
only three seasons. That that is a a you know,
(02:35:48):
just one of those deals, right. So, Gino, Smith and
Max Crosby were captured on video making obscene gestures towards
Seahawks fans as the end of the field before the
game Thursday night. Now, by the way, and keis you
missed it. They gave him the one finger piece sign
right now. Last year in November, Brian Branch of the
(02:36:10):
Lions a safety did a similar thing to Green Bay
Packers fans, and he was fined ten thousand dollars twenty
eight dollars. I don't know what's gonna happen, but I
think something has to do. You can't have this. Max
Crosby's gonna get Hall of Fame votes someday. Gino's Gino right,
he wrote me off, I ain't right back on. It
gets you too busy flipping people off. The team is
(02:36:33):
rather ready to enter the field. They were gathered. Crosby's
jumping up and down, he's talking to fans, chirping. He
tries to grab the sign. Then Gino Smith joins up
with Crosby. They're jumping up and down and they look
in the direction and the fans and the team starts
to run out of the field and Smith Gino makes
the one finger piece sign, and then Crosby followed up
(02:36:53):
with one of his own. Yeah they were todded. Yeah,
fans are fans short for fanatic, don't well, okay, there's
no need to even speak on any further. You know better,
but it happened, okay, And it's just one of those
situations where the Raiders culture doesn't need that they need
to get back to winning games. It's an iconic franchise,
(02:37:13):
but I just feel like they're living in the past.
How good, really? How good is Pittsburgh Pirates phenom pitcher
Paul Skeens. Here's your answer. Since he made his debut
in May of twenty twenty four, straight out of college
out of LSU, spent fifteen minutes in the minor leagues,
he has accumulative one point nine five ERA and a
(02:37:37):
point nine to three to nine WHIP. That's the lowest
ERA in the forty seven starts he's had forty seven starts.
That is historically the lowest ERA of any pitcher in
history of the first forty seven starts of their career.
And he's pitching for a team that can't score runs now.
Skeens was a legitimate say On candidate last season even
(02:37:58):
though they only made twenty three starts, and he's actually
a favorite to win the say Young Award this year.
This is only his first full season in the big leagues.
Speaker 18 (02:38:07):
Remember, he.
Speaker 2 (02:38:10):
Won the World Series at LSU and it's been a
rocket ship. Currently has the lowest the area of the
majors has the second lowest behind the FIP behind only
Trek Scougel, who's the reigning Ale Sion Award winner and
wants fod a four hundred million excuse me, and Skeens
has also given up the fewest home runs per nine
innings point four, gives up a home run about every
(02:38:32):
twenty five innings. He's dominated, and he's managed to mask
all the Pirates struggles but also making them much more frustrating.
Pittsburgh is in last place. They won their sixteen games
under five hundred and this is a team whose offense
has scored two runs or fewer and ten of his
starts he gets no run support plan on a team.
(02:38:53):
But every fifth day, if you're a fan, you get
to go to Pittsburgh and you get to see this
guy who's historic. Whole Pittsburgh keeps him around. It's gonna
do it for the Bernie Fratter Show. Keep it locked
on next the Great Andy Furman, Fox Sports Radio
