Speaker 1 (00:01):
Are you ready to witness quotquitness College fans, Welcome to
the biggest tailgate party in the nation different Fox Sports
Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Bett Mga, the King of Sportsbook.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
We're setting you up with the information you need to
watch your team win.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
We're here to break it all down.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
This is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by
Bett Mga. No, we're lying from your tailgame. Here's Brian No,
former Penn State All American, Rich Wrenberger and Pixwive's lead
Betty analyst Jared Smith.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Oh what is going on? Happy Saturday to you. Week
zero ball is back and uh listen. I'm trying to
keep my complaining to a minimum because we are fired
up here. You know, we get actual football games account
but my.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
Gosh, branch college football every year makes it so they
put it on a silver platter to complain.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Now, we do get ranked versus ranked. We get number
seventeen k State against number twenty two Iowa State, and
that's fine, but bro, the rest of the lineup, what
are we doing here? This is a soft launch defined.
I don't know why I don't know why we can't
get at least one big boy I think we should

(01:31):
have at least one big boy game to start it off.
This is like the fourth of July is here, let's celebrate,
and all we have is sparklers. It's like we don't
have any real fire. Really, what are we doing here?
How do you feel about this slate?

Speaker 4 (01:46):
Well, you're saying Idaho State taking on UNLV one o'clock
Western four o'clock Eastern time isn't really blown your hair back?

Speaker 2 (01:57):
No, yn't it? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Or an acc PAC twelve showdown to the tune of
Stanford Hawaii?

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Is it?

Speaker 4 (02:07):
Absolutely? I mean in Hawaii? Are they even in the
PAC twelve. We're gonna have to get into some of
the conference realignment here in a little bit as well,
because it is confusing, to say the very least, where
some of these you know, Mountain West teams scrambled to
catch on. But yeah, listen, I gotta tell you I
am I am not disappointed because, like you said, it's something,

(02:33):
but it is a soft launch and I think week zero,
if you're gonna.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Do it, you gotta do it.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Like we have to wait another week to see Ohio
State take on take on Texas, and that doesn't seem fair,
you know what I mean. The commercials started about a
week and a half ago. I remember seeing the first
one where they were really really promoting it in earnest.
I'm with you, I feel like you should have at

(03:02):
least one flag pole tent pole. Hey, this is they
are going for the gusto with this matchup type game.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Yeah, no, no doubt about that. It's funny because it's
one of my favorite old school NFL drops, right, Like
you ever see crunch course, there's an old NFL films
type you know, highlight tape or whatever. But there's a
clip of Lawrence Taylor and I love it because Lawrence Taylor,

(03:33):
he's miked up. They're playing the Jets and you know,
like the old school football noises rich in like these
nineteen eighties videos where it's like, you know, like that
type of stuff, you know, like they're it's like you
know that type Ben and Lawrence Taylor hits the quarterback
and he just looks down at him and he says this.
I think this is like the Week zero thing, right,

(04:00):
we gotta do better than come on. We got Hawaii
in action and we got fcs in action. But hey,
I don't want to drag out the complaining because ball
is back and we'll take what we get. We're starving
right now and these are kind of like stale ramen noodles.
But it's a meal. It's a meal, and we need food,
all right, so we'll take it.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Right.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
We're not gonna complain about this long term, but anything
else grab you You mentioned it too, rich where next week?
This is the opposite of a soft launch. You get
great games in each window, right, so you get Texas
and Ohio State to kick things off right away, big
noon kickoff, like it's amazing. That is a big noon

(04:41):
kickoff game number one versus number three, not in primetime.
It's just like, let's get after it. There's number nine
LSU at number four Clemson, and then the next night
number six Notre Dame against number ten Miami. Now that's
a slate. Those are three big boy games right there.
So the complaining will abb polutely cease after today when

(05:01):
next week rolls around.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yeah, I'm excited for it, which which is to your point.
I think week.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
Zero gosh, and I hate making this comparison because these
games matter. I mean, I'm not going to say any
of the teams we're going to see play in Week
zero will vie for a national championship, but technically any
of them can. Yeah, it is, it is, It is possible.

(05:30):
But Week zero does feel like the preseason. It it
feels it feels like these games are relatively inconsequential. However,
I will say this from a standpoint of wagering, from
a standpoint of putting a couple of dollars on a

(05:51):
game and having that that old feeling of like real
action after a six month respite of the NFL or
college football or any meaningful football games, that feels good.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
You know, the fact that.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
You can place a wager or like in game live
bet and have it actually matter.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
That does feel good. You know what?

Speaker 3 (06:13):
I had a flashback to a sitcom Saved by the Bell.
Do you remember that that old show? Yeah? I don't
know if I have the right drop, but it reminds
me of Jesse Spano. She was popping the caffeine pills.
Who's like one of like the serious episodes. But I
don't know, that's right, that's what you just said. It
reminds me of his Week zero. I'll try to find

(06:35):
the right spot. Here you go.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
I gotta wash my time, no time, There's never any time.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
I don't have time to study. I'll never get in
a Standford. I'll let everyone John.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
I'm so confused.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Jesse, calm down, Okay, I just need these kills.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
You mean you really are taking drugs?

Speaker 2 (06:59):
I need them. There goes to Cafe pills.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Ye, you can't sing to night there it is. I'm
so excited.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
That's me.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
That's me in week zero, right, I'm so excited ball
is back. And then it turned the panic that I
might live bet the Sam Houston game. And I'm like,
what am I doing it?

Speaker 6 (07:27):
Right?

Speaker 3 (07:27):
And it just goes to hell?

Speaker 2 (07:29):
And why would I do?

Speaker 3 (07:30):
I just wait to week one? Why am I betting
on you know, Stanford Hawaii? And it just works out
so poorly. So yeah, there's a little bit of.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
It, like like like Jesse spanos, I'll never get into
Stanford either because I'm not live better in that game.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
That's right. Absolutely, Yeah, how about this, you get a
little more college football news because the Slate doesn't blow
your doors off, right, But how about the SEC. They're
finally gonna move to a nine game conference schedule beginning
next year in twenty twenty six. This to me is

(08:08):
like Mayweather finally fighting Pakiao. It is like the SEC
finally moves to nine conference games. They've been talking about
it forever. One of the interesting parts is each school
will play three annual opponents and then the remaining six
games will rotate. So some of these teams they get,
you know, the three constant games. Some teams get three

(08:31):
tough constant games. It's like, whoa, bro, you got these
three opponents locked in every single year. Some other teams
it's a little bit more favorable. So that's an interesting
tweak to it. But what are your thoughts on nine
game conference schedules beginning in the SEC? It's finally happening here.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Yeah, I think that.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
I think that the three permanent annual opponents is one
of the things that I found most striking, and I'm
sure that can be adjusted over a certain amount of years.
And here's the reason why we'll get back to the
nine games. Because I'm curious your thoughts too, I'll share mine.

(09:13):
But you remember when conference realignment was happening, and even
there were conferences who were splitting into East West divisions,
and there was all this concern about, well, what are
we going to do about rivalries and how do we
ensure that they happen on a consistent basis.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Well, you just solve that problem, you know. You make
it so that.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
If there are games of interest every year that fans
want to see, you're going to make sure to play
those games. And I think that's good for the sport.
I think it's good for the fan bases, because, after all,
that's really what it's about. I know, it's about the
players and the talent, and the coaches, and the conferences
and the television contracts. But at the end of the day,

(09:58):
all that goes away without interest, you know what I mean.
You think about the pomp and circumstance around college football,
it is because people are interested in it and there's
a strong fan base. If the WNBA has had has
had as strong of a fan base over its existence
as college football, we would we would be investing in

(10:20):
their rivalries, you know what I mean. Like if if
in our country, if tennis was as watched and sought
after as college football, we'd be invested in their rivalries.
You know, the people, the fans investment in these college
football rivalries are chief to keeping this giant machine moving,

(10:43):
and this machine is making a lot of people a
lot of money, including the players now. So I think
having the ability to make sure that those three permanent
opponents are are games of specific interest to your fan base,
I think that's a really important fix as well.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Yeah, I'm with you. I think it makes a ton
of sense. And I think there's a tendency for us
to look at what traditions have been lost with a
lot of the realignment stuff, and there have been some
traditions that have gone by the wayside, and that's sad,
but not everything has And to your point, the sec
having these three annual opponents, you just can't have a

(11:22):
season where it's like, I guess we're not having the
Iron Bowl this year. No Bama, No Auburn, just didn't
work out. That can't happen. We don't have the Egg Bowl,
we don't have Mississippi. Mississippi State just didn't work out.
Not in the cards in twenty twenty eight, like, no,
those games, those rivalries will be locked in, and I

(11:43):
think that's absolutely important. It's sad that we've lost as
many rivalries as we have, but you start looking around
the gigantic landscape. It's not like we lost Michigan Ohio State.
There are plenty of rivalries that are still locked in.
There's just a tendency for us to dwell on what's
gone on instead of what remains constant. But you're right,

(12:03):
it's very important for the SEC to lock in those
big boy rivalry games. Something else that caught my attention,
of course, you know me, I'm a Notre Dame hack
and Heather Dinich of ESPN, she tweeted out something that
was pretty interesting. She wrote, sources that Notre Dame have
said the SEC scheduling decision quote further solidifies our independence

(12:25):
end quote, and she went on to write, the SEC
will still schedule non conference games against the Irish, the
university still has a committed TV partner, a home for
its Olympic sports, and a path to the playoff. Those
have always been the keys to independence for Notre Dame.
So it's funny one of these conversations ends, which is

(12:46):
can the SEC finally play nine conference games? But another
one has not ended. Whatsoever? Can Notre Dame finally join
a Conferencely? No, not right now They're dug in and
that's not happening anytime soon, if ever, with the past
to the playoff, that's just the way it is.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
It's just the way it is. And I think I
think Notre Dame. Look, they're smart. They're smart if there
is a route to make your bones without having to
share a single one, Yeah, and you still get to
pick that thing clean, just like any of these other
big boys schools. And there may be an argument that

(13:25):
you have to work a little bit harder on your
own to make it work, but you don't have to share. Yeah,
So there is that door swings both ways. There are
times where I'm sure the administrators, the coaching staff, depending
on the schedule year to year, they're looking at each
other going, this would be so much easier if we

(13:46):
were in the Big ten. This would be so much
easier if we just joined the SEC and they finally
completely abandoned you know, the geographical I guess you could
say pretend kabuki theater of having the conference called the
Southeastern Conference.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
It's not, you know.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
It, it's it that that would be. That would be
easier in some ways, but in many respects, it would
limit Notre Dame in a way they've never felt before.
Because they can shape their schedule, depending on in terms
of strength of schedule, depending on how strong they think
their team is to present the best case for playing

(14:29):
in the biggest games of the year. In the past,
when it was the BCS, it would be, you know,
to be the highest ranked in the power polling. Now
it would be to break their way into the playoffs.
And I think it's I think it's brilliant. So they're
holding on dearly for that opportunity to do so, and
they're navigating that course pretty well. They're one of the

(14:51):
only major schools in the country who's been able to
do that well.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
And that's the thing is, now they can earn a bye,
they can earn a first round by in the playoff.
They couldn't last year, which was dumb to me. Like
they were in the BCS title game when it was
just one of two teams. They're in the College Football
Playoff when it's just four teams twice. You know, it
wasn't an issue then, but you last year, they're like,
you don't play a conference championship game, you can't have

(15:16):
a first round by. But now they can. That has
gone away, so they have an even better path toward
a playoff and toward a good path. So why would
you like, there's not a better argument to join a
conference than there is not to and to wake you
up further on a Saturday morning, and Notre Dame solidifies

(15:37):
its independence, and so I think we should celebrate with
Max Cavalira, right, that's right, Like, how can you not be?
It's jolted right out of bed right there? You know
we're ready to go over here? All right, We've got

com Rex units on the fritz. I mean, listen, it's
chaos when ball happens. It's chaos. But we are here,
We are.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Ready, absolutely no doubt about that. It's pretty crazy. Speaking
of ball, this is the NFL topic. We'll get back
to this. You know, monumental Week zero slate here momentarily.

Speaker 5 (18:11):
Did you bash it already?

Speaker 3 (18:12):
I'm sorry, like a pinata, you know that collaborated everywhere. Yeah,
that's right. You know, we got a little junior mints
all over the place.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
You know.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
But this is amazing to me. How quickly thanks change now.
It doesn't blow me away that Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson
is now Colts backup quarterback Anthony Richardson. That doesn't blow
me away. But the timeline and how quickly we got
there does. I wanted to play some audio. I just
ran across this during the week. This is Vikings head

(18:42):
coach Kevin O'Connell. Okay, so this was last year, the
Colts played the Vikings in Minnesota. This was a Week
nine game, So this is the beginning of November of
last year. Think about it, it's not that long ago,
you know, Week nine in November last year. And on
the field, this was the game that Anthony Richardson did
not play, but Viking's head coach Kevin O'Connell encouraged him,

(19:06):
shared some positive words on the field after the game.
Listen to what KOC says and if you have you
might have the same reaction of me as like, wow, man,
that wasn't that long ago. And now he's on the bench.
Here's KOC to me your favorite Remember something, O't a
bad dude, and you're gonna play a long time in
this league.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
But so all right, go to work every day. The
good things will happen before you. I still believe in you.
I know these guys do. Shane does too. This organization
loves you. Go to so appreciated that.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
Okay, wow, right, Like that's Kevin O'Connell saying, hey man,
you're a bad dude, gonna play a long time in
this league. I still believe in you. Shane Steichen, the
Colts organization, they believe in you, and you fast forward
like half a year and it's like, no, they started
Daniel Jones instead of Anthony Richardson. That's not a whole

(19:55):
lot of faith in love. As far as the colts,
you know, regarding Anthony Richardson, this point didn't take that long.
But here we are no.

Speaker 4 (20:03):
And sometimes you'll do things as an organization and you'll
say things as an organization that aren't necessarily true, but
they are the white lies that you need to tell
yourself and the rest of the organization in order to
keep everything and everybody together.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
It's really, first and.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
Foremost hard to admit when you've made a mistake, like
a big one, especially one that's going to cost you
a lot of money or the people around you a
lot of money. Look, there's a lot of people in
that franchise depending on Chris Ballard to make really good
decisions with draft capital.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
There's a lot of people there.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
Who are really counting on Shane Steichen, who's shown some
really good offensive ideas and leadership methods as a head coach,
who if he was pounding the table for Anthony Richardson
in any way, shape or form, is looking at him
a little bit differently after this has crashed.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
It's no one's.

Speaker 4 (21:03):
Fault in particular, because if you think about it, everybody
wants Anthony Richardson to have success, including Anthony Richardson. It's
not like he got to the NFL went yep. Time
to throw it in coost mode, folks. Now I've arrived
and I got paid, and that's that. No, he wanted
to be the best. I promise you don't get to

(21:25):
the NFL level without striving. You're not a top draft
pick without trying and being an alpha and doing all
the things right.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
It takes a lot of work to get there. It
takes a lot of toil to get there.

Speaker 4 (21:39):
And I believe that he really really doesn't like where
he's at now. He wanted different, and so did everybody else.
So it's no one's fault in particular. But it didn't work.
And so they're doing the right thing. They're doing the
hard thing, which is saying, Okay, we got to address
this issue. Can he be consistent for us? The answer

(22:01):
is no. Can we win with him? Or do we
have a better option? And the answer is no. And yeah,
Daniel Jones is doing better this preseason. During camp in
these games and he's been healthier, which has been a
huge problem for Anthony Richardson. So the switch had to
be made, and I think that takes a lot of

(22:23):
courage for this organization and the people involved in that
decision to do that.

Speaker 5 (22:28):
Yeah, they were kind of back into a corner.

Speaker 6 (22:31):
And when they signed Jones in the offseason, the writing
was kind of on the wall because there's such different quarterbacks.
Like when you analyze Jones and Richardson, they're just they're
polar opposites. Like Richardson's like this wild stallion who like
can make this incredible play and can run for days,
but then he just you know, makes the boneheaded play
and it just like you know, inaccurate with his throws,

(22:54):
can't really make the simple reads, where Daniel Jones is
a little bit more i would say stable. The floor
is definitely higher, but the ceiling is considerably lower. So
it's like this, it's this weird, you know, high risk,
high reward Richardson play or a little bit more bland
with Daniel Jones.

Speaker 5 (23:14):
So the decision was made and to Rich's point to.

Speaker 6 (23:19):
You know, availability matters, and Richardson, you know, he had
the fractured finger and he was kind of in and
out of the lineup. But just when you just look
at the numbers, like Anthony Richardson is the most inaccurate quarterback.

Speaker 5 (23:31):
In the NFL over the last two years, Like it's
not even close.

Speaker 6 (23:35):
How about this, He's completed just thirty eight percent of
passes seven plus yards downfield when not pressured. The NFL
averages fifty seven percent. Not a single quarterback last year
was below forty five percent in that category. Richardson was
at thirty eight. Like it just he's just he's not
making the simple plays, the layups, and when you're not

(23:58):
on time and on target, it's possible to score in
the NFL consistently. So it's tough because I think he's
got all the talent in the world, but he was
very raw coming out of college with a minimal amount
of starts and Shane steichen is I guess maybe the
messaging just wasn't getting through because I edit a film

(24:18):
study on him, Like he's just he's not looking at
the entire field. He's locking in on one guy and
that's his guy. Where Daniel Jones, you know, say what
you want. He's a punch line at times, but at
least he has the basic quarterback ability to look to
his right.

Speaker 5 (24:33):
It's not there.

Speaker 6 (24:33):
All right, we're gonna come back to the left and
we're gonna make the throw there because that's where the
window is. Richardson has not demonstrated that ability at the
NFL level, and now we're in year three and you
just have to get there, and unfortunately he has it.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
Yeah, that's the thing. That's why I go back to
I think they've they've been horrible for each other. The
Colts have been bad for Anthony Richardson. Richardson has been
bad for the Colts. This is GM Chris Pallard. He
told The Athletic that Richardson was drowning. He wishes the
Colts had let Richardson sit and learn. You think they
threw him in the deep end. He didn't know how

(25:05):
to swim, he didn't have college reps. He threw less
than four hundred passes. They started in week one his
rookie year. It's like, so, like what you're explaining, Jared,
Like that starts to you develop bad habits when you're
you're asked to do way more than you're ready to do,
absolutely and it just gets worse and it just starts

(25:26):
to snowball. And that's the thing. We saw it in
the preseason opener. He didn't see an unblocked free rusher
because he's looking at the other side of the field.
Like that's as basic as it gets for a quarterback,
especially an NFL quarterback, and he's just not on that
level yet. He's been banged up all the time. He
tapped out of a game because he was tired. He's
been bad for the Colts too. Like the numbers you

(25:47):
rattled off are staggering, Jared, He's got t Bow esque
NFL quarterback numbers.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
That's brilliant.

Speaker 5 (25:54):
Might be more accurate, honestly, he might. I have to
go look, but he might have been.

Speaker 3 (25:59):
He might be. That's the other thing I'll say real
fast is what makes me think of is you hear
Cliff Kingsbury fades quite a bit, right, Cliff kings He
fades man, Yeah, with Kyler Murray. I didn't see him
fade with Jayden Daniels last year, you know. So I
think about that with Shane Steiken too. Before he became
the Colds head coach, he was an offensive coordinator. He

(26:21):
had immediate success with Justin Herbert and Jalen Hirts. He
didn't enjoy the same immediate success with old man Joe
Flacco and Anthony Richardson, who was just trying to figure
it out. That makes a big difference. You could play
that game with a lot of guys. Brian Dable with
the Giants, he's got Daniel Jones, not that sexy. When

(26:42):
he had Josh Allen with the Bills as their offensive coordinator.
Completely different ballgame. So I still haven't given up on
Shane Steiken, but man, he's still looking for a Justin
Herbert type quarterback. Have one right now at all.

Speaker 4 (26:57):
Shane was on the staff when I was playing for
the Chargers in San Diego.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
That's how long and deep his roots go back.

Speaker 4 (27:04):
He was he he was with Frank Reich in San Diego.
He was on staff with Mike McCoy before Reike went
off to Philadelphia and then took the job with the
Colts before Steiken followed him. Like they they like that
type of coach, that offensive minded type of coach who

(27:26):
is going to work on quarterbacks. And he's on He's
on a pretty successful offensive coaching tree. Like the limbs
and the roots, the roots grow deep the limbs grow
long on that tree. He's he's a talented guy, and
can we put him in the same light as like

(27:46):
a Shanahan or McVeigh or you know, even a Kevin
O'Connell with his recent success as a head coach in Minnesota.
Maybe not no, but I do put him up there
as one of the better skull of talent at the
QB position in the league right now, and that's including
a lot of good company. So I don't think the

(28:08):
issue is with the head coach. When you are quarterback,
you were responsible not just for yourself, but you're also
responsible for the ten other guys you share the field with.
And so you pointed out that play where you didn't
see the blitz off the edge and got clocked during
the preseason. That is the most rudimentary type of stuff.

(28:30):
That is like day one install type stuff. He needed
to see it, and it was a huge bell weather
or canary in the coal mine as to what this
season would look like if they needed to rely on
Anthony Richardson. But here's where it gets really tricky and
really hairy. Those ten other guys are relying on you

(28:50):
to set the protection correctly and to make the proper
adjustments and to throw the football to the correct shoulder
on a route, and to not leave you high and
dry when a defender is collapsing on a route and
get you absolutely creamed. Like those decisions in those split seconds.
Those windows closed really fast in the NFL. And that's

(29:10):
the difference between being a playoff team and a team
with four wins, it is. Those margins are that thin
in the NFL. And so those are the reasons why
Daniel Jones has gotten the nod over Anthony Richardson because
he's playing better in those type margins.

Speaker 6 (29:30):
I've got a great nugget on Stikeen to prove Rich's
point here. So even with Minshew, Flacco and Richardson over
the last two years, Steichen's script was so good that
the Colts still were top ten and most points scored
in the first quarter.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
How about that?

Speaker 6 (29:47):
Yeah, with those three quarterbacks, Steichen was still so good
at drawing up plays top ten in almost every category
EPA yards for play success or eight points per drive.

Speaker 5 (29:56):
With those three guys.

Speaker 6 (29:59):
Now, if you can do that with those three guys,
imagine what you can do with a real quarterback. Like
if the Colts ever do get a legit guy. Now,
Daniel Jones, it's gonna look a lot different. Richardson was
a number one in air yards last year, Daniel Jones
was thirty second. Like it's gonna be dank and dunk,
it's gonna be let's piece it together.

Speaker 5 (30:20):
But here's the key.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
You do have a I.

Speaker 5 (30:23):
Would say improved offensive line.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
Freeze.

Speaker 6 (30:26):
Kelly Glawski are all gone, but I do think they
spent a lot on the offensive line, and they're young
in that category.

Speaker 5 (30:33):
So I think they've got a chance to be good
up front.

Speaker 6 (30:35):
And you know me, I love Tyler Warren and the
Colts had no production from their tight ends last year.
They actually targeted the tight end position at one of
the lowest rates in the league, and they never used,
you know, multiple tight ends and really utilize them in
the offense. So I think Tyler Warren will give a boost,
a little bit of a unicorn boost to this offense.
And I think Jones will be able to find him

(30:57):
because he's pretty good at completing. The problem is just
pushing the ball down the field. But to Richard's original point,
like I do like Shane Steike and a lot as
a coach. In fact, I think if they can figure
out a way to win the division this year, I
think Stiken's the coach of the year Canada.

Speaker 5 (31:12):
You win this, listen.

Speaker 6 (31:13):
That's like you ill to talk about Kevin O'Connell winning
the NFC North or winning the coach of the year
last year almost winning the NFC North with Sam Darnold.

Speaker 5 (31:20):
If Shane Styken can figure.

Speaker 6 (31:22):
Out a way to get into the playoffs or win
the AFC South with Daniel Jones, I mean, just give
him the coach of the year right now.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
It's an interesting point, right because Daniel Jones' reputation is
so bad. If he looks better with Shane Stike and
Shane Stikeen's gonna get a ton of credit for that.
So yeah, you're right, he's actually live in that market.
It's funny. I'll say one last thing is u you
know Shane Steiken after that preseason game where Richardson got hit,

(31:48):
didn't see the rusher, you know, messed up his finger.
You know, he could have done five minutes on that.
They were asking him like, hey, what happened on that play?
He could have been like, let me tell you what
happened on that play? Okay, right, but he just paraphrasing
is like it's five man protection. Like he basically knows better.
I don't know what to tell you, like he knows
better than what he did on that play. But you know,

(32:11):
we move forward with Daniel Jones here. It's not the
Daniel Jones era, but it's the Daniel Jones twenty twenty
five magic carpet, right if you will.

Speaker 2 (32:20):
But I did want to.

Speaker 4 (32:22):
He's a band aid on a gushing wound, Daniel Jones,
like he represents an adhesive managed. I will say this
really quick about Changstyke, and he got that five.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
Minutes in trust me.

Speaker 4 (32:33):
In front of the team, he unless it was, you know,
beating a dead horse at that point, right, I promise you.
In front of that team, he made an example of
Anthony Richardson and says, look, this just isnacceptable.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
We need better.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
I did want to. I wanted to bring some gifts
to you guys, right, like we're fired up. College football
is back soft launch week zero week w e ak
week week zero soft launch. But I was like, what
can I bring?

Speaker 4 (33:03):
You?

Speaker 3 (33:03):
Know, you don't want to show up to a party
and not have some chips or something to drink, right,
you don't want to be that type of person.

Speaker 5 (33:09):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
I wanted to.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Bring something to this party and I'm like, man, what
can I bring these guys, these Penn State guys. Oh,
I love dearly and you know what, a guy named
Paul finebaumb he kind of delivered something. I'm like, this
would make a great item for the party. Here on Countdown,
presented by Bed MGM. Right, yeah, so this was on

(33:35):
first take. Paul fine Bomb not high on James Franklin
or the Nitney Lions. If you will check it out.

Speaker 4 (33:42):
Paul, are you buying that Penn State can win the title?

Speaker 2 (33:46):
I'm not to me.

Speaker 9 (33:48):
It still has James Franklin and this sounds like a
low hanging fruit. But he has stole the coach and
I've seen him in too many situations, like last year
with a lead against Ohio State, like last year with
a lead against Notre Dame. I think ten points in
both cases and they ended up being the loser. And
he's top of the line coach, he's a top ten coach.
But until he wins, until he wins what I considered

(34:10):
to be the ultimate game, I can't buy it. And
I just would have to bet here in late August
that James Franklin will find some way to screw this
season up, probably even in the National Championship game.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
Hey, he's got him in the Natty, right.

Speaker 5 (34:25):
That means they want at least one big game.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. What do you think?

Speaker 4 (34:31):
Here's what I think. I think that have there been
over the course of time, you know, decisions whether it
be field goals or two point conversion tries or goal
line series, you know, play calls that I've completely disagreed with. Yeah,
And are those coaching decisions, Yeah, yeah they are. But

(34:52):
I mean, look, a coach can lose you a game,
but your players win you games.

Speaker 5 (34:57):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (34:58):
And there have been so many moments in those big
games where it's very clear that the decision that was
made that really cost the Nitney Lions an opportunity to
be amongst the elite names mentioned in that year's College
Football Review. It wasn't because of bad coaching. It was

(35:19):
because of bad decision making and key moments by players
who know better. I mean, the interception that really kind
of sealed the deal for the.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
Nittneys last year.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
That's that's not because I mean James Franklin didn't let
it rip over the middle of the field. I mean,
he's situationally. Can you coach players up better so they
can handle the conditions better? Are they doing that at
Penn State? I happen to know they are coaching situational football,
so at a certain point, the accountability has to trickle

(35:52):
to the players. Now, is there a common denominator here? Yeah,
Coach Franklin's name is on all this, and I get that.
But is he a good recruiter and a good coach? Yeah,
that's also true too, So well, we'll see. I disagree
with Paul Finebaum. I don't I see a way where
this team can win a national title this year. They're

(36:14):
talented enough.

Speaker 5 (36:15):
Here's what I'll say to Paul.

Speaker 6 (36:16):
He's better than this. He's better than taking the low
hanging fruit narrative. That's the public narrative that everybody says
that big game. James Franklin can't win the big game.
They were underdogs in all of those games. He mentioned
all of them. I think the Notre Dame game was
a pick them, so maybe they should have won that one.
But really they were ahead and then Drew Aller throw
a really bad, really.

Speaker 5 (36:37):
Bad interception in the fourth quarter. He also threw a
ball on a flat route on the goal line. I
was there. I was literally there.

Speaker 6 (36:45):
I was like, you know, twenty yards away from the
play where it was a wide open flat route early
in the game, I think it was on the first
or the second drive, and he put it in the
running backs booty like he threw it in his butt.
I could have been thrown right to his chest, but
threw it in his butt. Then he had a wheel
route in the second half that he threw into the stands.
Drew Aller was the problem in the notre Ame game.

(37:08):
Drew Aller has been the problem for Penn State from
what I have been told. I'm sure are Penn State colleagues.
Rich and LeVar could probably back this up. He needs
to step up mentally, he needs to rise to the occasion.
But the James Franklin narrative needs to die. It is
not It is a false narrative. He is not big
game James. They've been underdogs in those games. Has he

(37:29):
risen his team to the level that needed to be
done to win the game? No, But this year he
has the best roster. He doesn't need to rise to
the occasion. His talent is already there. He just needs
to not underachieve is really the problem. Now, if he
falls short this year, I will listen to the narrative.
But last year the problem was Drew Aller was not

(37:49):
James Franklin.

Speaker 3 (37:51):
Man, you guys, you Penn State guys. You guys are nauseating.
I'm gonna be honest with you.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
Deal.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
Here's the thing, man Like it might be a national narrative,
but it's a correct narrative. He's the constant. He's one
in eighteen against top five teams at Penn State. He's
one in ten against Ohio State. And he's had some
talented teams. I know this, good teams, good coaches, they win.
Hiss underdogs. I'm not buying though, Oh they were underdogs,

(38:17):
they had less talent. I don't care. There are less
talented teams that are underdogs that still win, and he hasn't.
So he is small game James until he wins big
otherwise that is fitting. That is a fitting description of
the man. And I will be in my Notre Dame
corner over here, talking smack like mind Bob is and

(38:39):
we'll just do it out like that. Hey, we've got
rich Roidberger, Penn State, All American Jared Smith, FSR betting analyst.
I'm Brian No. Coming up next, the parlay platter. We
each have one selection for you. We pull it together

Speaker 1 (39:23):
Check this out, Arlay letter.

Speaker 3 (39:26):
Okay, the planter is here. We each have one selection.
We pull it together for a greater payout. Jared, we
start with you.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
What do you like?

Speaker 5 (39:34):
Yeah, we'll go a little ball.

Speaker 6 (39:35):
I know Week zero is not great, but we do
have a decent game here right out of the gate
of Kansas State, Iowa State, the Dublin Game. I think
it's a pop tarts themed game. I don't know, but
it is a rank versus ranked. It is two good
Big twelve teams, and I think I have a chance
to at least compete for the title this year. I
think Kansas State is a little bit better defensively. I
do not like the three three five stat that Iowa

(39:58):
State plays. I think Kansas State, even though they lost
DJ Giddens, they lost some offensive lineman. They can run
the ball. Ab Johnson is an elite rushing quarterback. I
think he's a dark horse Heisman probably not going to
win it, but a dark horse Heisman candidate. Iowa States
replacing the two NFL receivers. I like Rocke Beeck as
a quarterback for the Cyclones, but I think Case State's
got a little bit of an edge. We'll put them
on the money line to start the parlay, Kansas State

(40:19):
money line.

Speaker 4 (40:21):
All right, give me Hawaii Stanford. I'm taking over the
ten points in the first quarter today. That's the nightcap
here in Week zero. I like Hawaii on the island,
scoring fast and scoring often. Timmy Chanks run and shoot
offense with his new quarterback getting his first career Day

(40:43):
one start, or I should say, week zero start. Last year,
in his first collegiate start, he had nearly five hundred
yards passing in zero interceptions. So give me the over
on the first quarter total.

Speaker 3 (40:55):
All right, I'm taking the Fresno State Boldogs over here.
Plus fourteen and a half. Give me a minus a
dollar thirty. You know, Jalen Daniels is back, and I
hope he stays healthy. I really do a talented kid.
He will turn the ball over sometimes. And we get
an FCS two time national champion and now the head
coach of the Bulldogs here, So I'll take them. Hey,

(41:17):
Paul Reviews, roll forward, Oh what is going on? Happy
Saturday to you? And guess what ball is back? Maybe
we get actual games that count, regular season begins. It
is a soft launch in college football in week zero,

(41:38):
but it's here. It's here, and I'll keep my complaining
to a minimum. Here we got number twenty two Iowa
State against number seventeen Kansas State. Oh yes, in Dublin,
Ireland over there, we get ranked versus ranked. You know
this isn't the worst thing ever. First thing is on
Iowa State side. Rock O becked right, their quarterback. A

(42:01):
couple of his wide receivers got drafted, you know, second
round Jaden Higgins, third round Jalen Knowl. They're coincidentally teammates
now with the Houston Texans, but his leading receivers last year.
They're both with the Texans now, so it's reloading time.
They got a couple of transfers that they like a lot.
But I'm curious how rock O Beck looks in this

(42:25):
first game without Higgins and Nol. That's a big deal
for a quarterback readjusting to new wide receivers and losing
a couple of Day two picks. You know, you lose
a second and third rounder in the same draft and
got to reload. That's a lot to ask. So that's
one of the things out of my eye on. And
then Avery Johnson, right, not the transition defense. Avery Johnson,

(42:49):
the Kansas State quarterback. I got to meet Avery Johnson
at a UNLV game. You'd love that year. Yeah, he
was doing color commentary. He was awesome. He was really
cool with all the fans. But yeah, Avery Johnson, the
Kansas State quarterback a lot of talent, can create a
lot of plays with his legs, but can can Avery
Johnson look like the much better quarterback today against the Cyclone.

(43:15):
Cyclones didn't have much of a pass rush at all
last season, So if that's still the case, Avery Johnson
could cook in this game with his arm and his legs.
But we're waiting for Avery Johnson to really like put
it all together as the Kansas State quarterback. So this
is step one here today.

Speaker 4 (43:32):
Yeah, I think with a dual threat quarterback like Johnson,
you have a great opportunity to exploit some of the
new looks they're going to see from the Cyclones. So
I think Case State they're going to obviously script plays
for success in the passing game, but they're going to
talk to Avery Johnson about, Hey, when you see a

(43:52):
lane to run, you take it, you know, because there's
easy five yard games out there, which sets you up
for easier conversions. There's first down markers three yards away
that you should run for instead of trusting your arm
in certain situations. And so I think we'll see some
of that. And then, just like you said in terms
of the other side of the coin, with Iowa State

(44:14):
rock O Beck, they were running a lot of two
and three tight end sets last year and then they
transitioned at a certain point to highlight the outside game.
They really obviously found something with those receivers you had mentioned,
so they might get back a little bit more to
their roots and set up the passing game with more

(44:34):
of more big bodies.

Speaker 2 (44:37):
On the field, so to speak.

Speaker 4 (44:38):
So it'll be very interesting from a scheme fit how
Iowa State responds to the loss of two extremely talented
receivers on the outside.

Speaker 6 (44:49):
Yeah, Iowa States strength is definitely the quarterback.

Speaker 5 (44:54):
He's very elusive.

Speaker 6 (44:56):
I think their defense in the secondary is very strong,
but I don't like the match up here for the Cyclones.

Speaker 1 (45:03):
Now.

Speaker 5 (45:03):
To be fair, Iowa State took some money at.

Speaker 6 (45:06):
Four and were down to three, so there are some
professional sharp betters in the market.

Speaker 5 (45:11):
That do think Iowa State can keep this game close.

Speaker 6 (45:14):
But once it got to three, we saw a little
bit of money come back on Kansas State at the
better number, and I saw a little bit of money
line love for the Wildcats also last night pushed it
up about ten cents, So we're kind of seeing professionals
play both sides of this. But if you want my
opinion on the matchup the Cyclones, again, they run a
defense which is designed to stop the pass.

Speaker 5 (45:35):
It is a lighter box. They run a three to
three five.

Speaker 6 (45:40):
It's a little bit unique, right, they only have six
guys in the box and they have five. They basically
run nickel and dime almost on every play, and they
try to fill holes and you know, confuse you in
the secondary. But they can be run on, which to
me means big game for Aver Johnson. Like I think
Avery Johnson, I think is anytime touchdown prop.

Speaker 5 (46:01):
Is plus one ten ish.

Speaker 6 (46:02):
I think that's a decent bet. I think he's gonna
you know, we hate We've talked about it on the show.
I hate betting rushing props for quarterbacks because of the sacks,
so I would stay away from that. But if you
can find a rushing attempts prop for Avery Johnson, I
would bet that to the over.

Speaker 5 (46:17):
I think Kansas State wins this game. I really do.

Speaker 6 (46:19):
I think Avery like I would rather have Avery Johnson
in a tight game than Rock go back. Even though
Beck has led some really tough comebacks in his career.
He's a tough guy quarterback. But I think the match
up here because of I alway say it's defense and
the way they run their lighter boxes. I think that
favors Kansas State's running game, especially Avery Johnson and his legs.

Speaker 3 (46:36):
When are we gonna make this change in college football?

Speaker 2 (46:39):
I don't know where.

Speaker 3 (46:40):
So stupid, it's so stupid. Sack sack yardage counts against
the quarterback's rushing total. It's the dumbest thing ever. It
makes no sense at all. And by the way, peaking
at Avery Johnson's rushing yards, the prop is said at
fifty nine and a half yards high number for a
quarter It's absolutely a high number. You take a couple

(47:02):
of sacks. Yeah, there's a loss of seven. There's a
loss of nine. Good luck getting the sixty yards rushing.
That's not easy.

Speaker 5 (47:09):
Now he could go eighty easily.

Speaker 3 (47:11):
Easily.

Speaker 6 (47:12):
Oh he has that kind of speed, But yeah, don't.
I don't think I bet the rushing prop because of
the sacks.

Speaker 5 (47:16):
I hate that. I hate losing sacks.

Speaker 3 (47:19):
And that's the thing too. I picked at rock O
Beck's rushing stats, right, and it's not close to what
Avery Johnson's is. But even for the yearly rushing yards,
you don't get a true representation of what these quarterbacks
are doing with their legs. Agreed, a lot of this
is sack yardage. This was what his freshman year at

(47:40):
at Iowa State, sixty two rushes for sixty three yards.
It's not because he can't run it all. Last year
roc Obecs had ninety eight attempts for three to eighteen, right,
So like that first year, it's not like he couldn't
run at all. It's just a bunch of sack yardage.
So you have no good idea or indication what it

(48:01):
could actually do. It's so ridiculous. Now they got to
change that immediately, but they just refuse to. It's crazy.

Speaker 2 (48:09):
Yeah, it's frustrating.

Speaker 4 (48:10):
Look, I mean to put it, I guess bow on
this game. The Iowa State needed to do something about
their defense because I forgot how poor they were at
tackling and finishing plays last year. They ranked one hundred
twentieth nationally in PFS tackling grades last year. When you look,

(48:33):
I'm not saying that tackling is an effort staff stat
but it is one of those things where guys are
either in the wrong completely wrong place, taking terrible angles,
or it's not something effort from an effort standpoint that's
being discussed or practice enough. When nobody's looking, when the
lights and the cameras aren't on, So they fixed that problem. Obviously,

(48:55):
they're switching things up in a major way defensively, but
a lot there for Case State to attack. I mean,
count on Avery Johnson in this rushing attack, factoring, count
on their running backs, and they've kind of got a
dual headed threat out of the backfield being highlighted here,
because that's what I would do first, when you're.

Speaker 2 (49:17):
Running against a smaller.

Speaker 4 (49:19):
Box that are trying to deceive you with a lot
of movement, gather up bodies, run a lot of zone
where guys are just sort of, you know, moving to
a gap as opposed to be responsible for men in
the blocking scheme and start and start creating some space
in the run game and control the clock. That's that

(49:39):
would be my plan if I was Kansas State today.

Speaker 5 (49:42):
Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 6 (49:43):
I mean, have you ever played rich on a team
that runs the three three five in college football?

Speaker 2 (49:48):
Like?

Speaker 5 (49:49):
Have you played against it?

Speaker 6 (49:50):
It's just it's such a unique blocking scheme because when
I think of college football more often than not, and
I guess maybe we've gotten away from it a little
bit over the last few years because of the quarterback
and the spread offenses, and maybe that's why iowas they
implemented it.

Speaker 5 (50:03):
They play in the Big.

Speaker 6 (50:04):
Twelve with a lot of those spread cookie offenses, and
they're trying to shut down the pass. But man, you
could just the easiest thing to do, like the the
quickest point, you know, but or the quickest the you know,
direction between two points is a straight line, like I'm
just gonna hand the ball off. You've only got six
guys in the box, and I've got five offensive lineman
plus probably a full back. And if we run quarterback option,
then the running back could also be.

Speaker 5 (50:25):
Used as a blocker.

Speaker 6 (50:26):
I could have seven blockers against your six linemen and
your six guys in the box. That is a mismatch
every time running the ball, right.

Speaker 2 (50:33):
Uh, yeah, it is, and it can be.

Speaker 4 (50:35):
What I will say is it is a little bit
of a misnomer saying that the box is lighter as
a result of it being a three to three five defense,
because it's really only a three to three to five
in name, only one of those linebackers is going to
be up.

Speaker 2 (50:49):
On the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 4 (50:50):
He'll probably be in a stand up position, so you'll
see a four man front most of the time.

Speaker 2 (50:55):
Then also, one of those quote unquote safeties.

Speaker 4 (50:58):
He's going to play almost like a over position where
he plays in.

Speaker 2 (51:02):
The box as well.

Speaker 4 (51:02):
So you'll have a seven man box, which is getting
pretty far in the weeds for certain football fans. But
basically your front seven that they talk about defensively will
be intact.

Speaker 2 (51:13):
They'll just be.

Speaker 4 (51:14):
Smaller people, actually smaller people. So what they're going to
try to do. What Iowa State is going to try
to do, like all three three five teams, is defeat
your offensive scheme with movement. They're gonna send a lot
of defensive line stunts. They're going to be a blitz
heavy team this year. They're going to blitz constantly, and

(51:35):
when they do that, they'll have success against man blocking
schemes in the run game because I mean, as it's described,
I'm responsible for that guy in this blocking scheme, and
if he moves away, that can cause great deal of
confusion for our blocking scheme.

Speaker 2 (51:52):
When you're running zone.

Speaker 4 (51:53):
Like when you hear people say, hey, yeah, the running
back got a five yard game on that inside zone play, Well,
an inside zon't play. All it is is everybody stepping,
say to the right gap, the gap immediately to their
right and gathering whatever body ends up in that gap,
whether it's at the first level on the defensive line,
or it's at the second level at the linebacking level,

(52:15):
or shoot, if it's a safety flying down to fill,
you just blocked the guy that comes to that gap.
And so against teams like three three five teams are
teams that blitz or move a lot, there are ways
to defeat that offensively, and Kansas State has to be
ready for all that movement. So expect them to run
a lot of zone schemes today if they can handle it,

(52:36):
and if they do and they block it, well, it's
gonna be a long day for Iowa State.

Speaker 3 (52:40):
Great breakdown, anything else you guys are looking forward to
again soft launch, you know, not judging that game, but
really anything else that maybe an individual player.

Speaker 5 (52:51):
You got something UNLV today.

Speaker 6 (52:53):
I know it's Idaho State and I know the game
is you know, going to be a blowout, but there's
a lot of buzz here in town for UNLV.

Speaker 5 (53:01):
Mullen comes in.

Speaker 6 (53:02):
He's done a really good job recruiting and there is
a lot of excitement around this program because he brings
in a staff that I think is you know, kind
of a power conference staff. You know with his experience,
and Boise's a little bit down right. They lost a
ton and there is a team from the group of
five that's gonna make the playoff, And why not the
winner of that UNLV Boise State game?

Speaker 5 (53:23):
Why not? You know, the the Rebels, you know sneak in.
So you know, just keep an.

Speaker 6 (53:27):
Eye out for UNLV this year. I might be on
him today against Idoh State. But I think there is
a lot of excitement. Maybe it's a little biased here
in my new hometown in Vegas, but there is. Mullins
brought a lot of buzz here in town to this team.

Speaker 3 (53:39):
By the way, you're saying, you know, he's done a
good job recruiting, that's a common way to phrase it.
Do you think it's ever gonna catch on? Like this
coach has done a good job portaling. You think that's
gonna be a right?

Speaker 6 (53:53):
I think retaining now it's the hardest thing to do
these days. This coach has done a good job not
having all of his players leave after one year.

Speaker 2 (54:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (54:00):
Yeah, I'm looking forward to Jaylen Daniels. You know, the
Kansas quarterback been incredibly banged up. I'm happy he's back.
I hope he remains healthy. But I mean, Rich, you
know this better than any of us on this show.
When you're going through injury after injury after injury and
the road to getting back on the field. It's been
a long road for Jayalen Daniels. So you know, against

(54:23):
Fresno State today, I'm excited to see him play. He's
an exciting player. You know, he can create a lot
with his legs, throwing it all over the place. So
he's excitable, and I hope he remains upright, man. I
hope he's blessed with good health.

Speaker 4 (54:35):
Finally, I'm mainly excited, and yeah, you're absolutely right about
health and those issues. When you are unhealthy and it's
a hindrance to your performance, it's so hard because, I mean,
it destroys every part of your game, you know, and confidence,
the mental part of it being probably the most important.
But the one thing I'm looking most forward to, gentlemen,

(54:57):
and this happens every year Week zero is some head
coach putting his foot in his mouth.

Speaker 2 (55:03):
There's going to.

Speaker 4 (55:04):
Be head coach interviews a week out from their Week
one rivalry showdowns or whatever it is, or the start
of the season. Who's gonna say something about their conference,
or say something about football scheduling, or say something about
the opponent they have coming up on their schedule, or
say something about their week one opponent that is going
to cause a.

Speaker 2 (55:22):
Small brush fire across social media today.

Speaker 4 (55:25):
Mark my words, we are ours away from this happening.

Speaker 2 (55:30):
It happens every single year.

Speaker 5 (55:31):
We had odds on who it's going to be. That's
the big question. Do you think it's going to be
someone who's playing today or someone.

Speaker 6 (55:38):
Who is not playing today that gets a mic put
in their face by some other reporter somewhere else.

Speaker 3 (55:44):
What if it's our guy James Franklin and says your
small game nickname right here.

Speaker 6 (55:50):
You know what, they don't play anyone for the next
three weeks. So they don't play. They play a lot
of small games over the next three weeks. I think
it's Nevada. I think it's FIU. I mean we don't
I don't think we intence. They don't anyone.

Speaker 5 (56:00):
So I think that Oregon game.

Speaker 3 (56:01):
And then in September, Yeah, all right, we've got Rich Orenberger,
Ben State All American, Jared Smith FSR betting analyst, I'm
Brian no use code countdown at BETMGM and receive up

main man, Seamus McGee, team lead of Sports Trading at BETMGM.
A lot to get to with Seamus. I probably won't
even lead off with the WNBA question. Right, ball is back,
so we'll throw a bunch of questions his way. That's

(56:45):
around the corner. It is Fox Sports Radio's Countdown presented

Speaker 2 (57:21):
Follow the money, real good money. That's right.

Speaker 3 (57:24):
Welcome our good friend Seamus McGee, team lead of sports
trading at BETMGM. All right, Jeamus ball is back. It's
a week zero soft launch, I say. But I'll tell
you what. There are some seamous candidates here, Idaho State,
Sam Houston plus the points. Anything standing out to you?

Speaker 10 (57:44):
Yeah, really appetizing slate Week zero here, you guys hit
the nail on the head. A lot of good ones
out here. But wait, has my eye is Idaho State
first half plus seventeen and a half?

Speaker 2 (57:58):
Wow?

Speaker 11 (57:59):
Numbers UNLV?

Speaker 10 (58:00):
Did I mean they've got this spreads movie about like
five points?

Speaker 11 (58:04):
I think off the open for the full game.

Speaker 10 (58:06):
But you know UNLV's gonna be trying out both QB's
Calandria and Origin I today, and I just worry about
what that does to a rhythm of an offense early on,
Like if they're gonna be up, are they just going
to steam roll with both guys and cover seventeen and
a half. I'll take Idaho State with that first half
point spread.

Speaker 5 (58:26):
You just talked me off of giving out UNLV for
the full game.

Speaker 11 (58:29):
In full game, I think it's fine. Like I think
they could by the second half. I think they'll have
an idea, okay, like, yeah, we figured it out now
they might lay it on thick in the second half.

Speaker 2 (58:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (58:41):
I kind of like this UNLV team this year.

Speaker 6 (58:43):
But maybe I'm looking at it through Vegas color glasses,
which is very fair to say. All right, in general,
Week zero obviously isn't going to get all the attention.
Have you started to see a lot of handle increase
right now for Week one?

Speaker 4 (58:54):
Like?

Speaker 6 (58:54):
When does the college football season really begin for the betters?
Are you seeing a lot of action today on let's
say the Iowa State Kansas State game early? I know
we have Kansas playing later today, you get the Hawaii
game late night? Or is this kind of an afterthought
until we get the main event starting next week?

Speaker 10 (59:12):
I mean, definitely the Dublin game gets a big handle
like this is gonna be It's usually one of our
bigger gebet games a year, just because it is the
first game, it's at noon, and we're lucky enough this
year we do have a we do have a ranked
matchup thanks to the the AP speaking Iowa stayed in
there under the belt, but it's gonna be I think

(59:34):
it's gonna be really good handled today this week. But
we are starting to see some money come in on
you know, the Texas, Ohio States of next week, Clemson,
LSU is starting to trickle in. So people are definitely
opening up looking forward to a season.

Speaker 4 (59:50):
Usually Hawaii is involved in week zero. It's kind of
become a thing when I couldn't keep my hands off it.
I like the first quarter over for the total it
was at ten when we spoke about this during the
parlay platter, Shamus. But teams going to Hawaii week zero
or week one, does that affect the handicap at all?

Speaker 2 (01:00:13):
Or what would you say in general is the consensus?

Speaker 4 (01:00:17):
Are those hands off games for you or those ones
you could dig in and you can find angles on.

Speaker 10 (01:00:23):
I've almost gotten to a point personally where I look
to fade Hawaii week zero or week one just because
I feel like everyone that's Hawaii, every single person is
betting Hawaii the first game of the season at home.

Speaker 11 (01:00:36):
Like I think a couple of years.

Speaker 10 (01:00:37):
Ago, there was a trend going around like, oh, they
cover like the last twenty years week zero against like
specific teams and it's gonna be the same today. I
mean everyone's on Stanford, sharps pros on Hawaii. Excuse me,
whether it's sharpshare recreational betters. This line open Stanford minus

(01:00:58):
two and a half, it got be through zero in.
Now Hawaii's minus two and a half and the money
keeps pouring in on Hawaii.

Speaker 2 (01:01:05):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (01:01:05):
Interesting, that's why he stayed away from the side and
I picked the total because, like you, was a little
reticin there. But it's interesting, man, that travel is for real,
even for a West Coast team.

Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
Yeah, yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 11 (01:01:19):
You see it. Yeah, you see it every year with
just like the you know, the island time and whatnot.

Speaker 3 (01:01:25):
All right, Seamus, there's a basketball story that caught my
attention and I wanted to throw it your way. Where
Malik Beasley right last with the Detroit Pistons, he was
facing a federal gambling investigation and he's off the hook,
no longer a target. And we've seen the videos, right
there was basically a highlight tape of all these shady

(01:01:46):
plays from Malik Beasley where you know, it'll take the
ball from one end of the court to the other
in the final seconds to cover like an eight and
a half point spread or whatever it was. You're like,
that seems kind of odd right there. So which do
you think is more likely to be the case? Is
this where he's just totally innocent there was some smoke
but no fire, or is this kind of like the

(01:02:07):
old line from Denzel in Training Day where he says,
it's not what you know, it's what you can prove.
Is it possible that Malik Beasley or some other athlete
was involved in something a little sketchy, but it's just
hard to prove. What do you think is more likely here?

Speaker 10 (01:02:25):
I I really don't want to speculate on this right now,
but it's it is interesting. I mean, you do have
to prove a lot. I mean to get like, it's
a very serious accusation for a professional basketball player to
be accused of what he has been. But yeah, I'm
happy for him that he's you know, he's queered for now,

(01:02:45):
I suppose, but uh yeah, we'll see. I mean, I
I don't want to get into like any I'm not
one hundred percent on a lot of the details that
went into his so I don't expect it like too
much about whether I think he got off easier or not?

Speaker 6 (01:02:57):
Seamus, what's your what's your best like hottest take for
the college football season. I mean we were talking about
the James Franklin stuff earlier out Penn State, you know
is overrated. Is there a team at the top that
is maybe a little bit too up there with the rankings.
Is there a team off the radar that you think
is going to make a splash, like give me.

Speaker 5 (01:03:15):
A surprise for the college football campaign.

Speaker 11 (01:03:19):
I guess they'll go one good, one bad. I think
my Indiana this year.

Speaker 10 (01:03:26):
I keep going back to the well of this team
every year, but I think this is the I think
it's Nebraska. I think it's year two, Riola year three
Matt rule. Even more important for this Nebraska program. The
schedule favors them a little bit here. The toughest game
is Ohio State, but they get that at home. And
if they're four and oh three and zer going into
that game, you can bet we'll have game Day in Lincoln.

Speaker 11 (01:03:49):
That place is going to be going nuts.

Speaker 10 (01:03:51):
I think by break the door down this year, I
think they can sneak into the playoffs. As far as
a team at the top, they're not really at the top,
but like everyone I feel like I haven't heard a
bad thing about South Carolina and Leonora Sellers all off.

Speaker 3 (01:04:04):
M yeah, and they're gonna.

Speaker 11 (01:04:06):
Go seven and five again. I don't know why.

Speaker 10 (01:04:09):
Anyone wastes breath on Shane Biaber in South Carolina.

Speaker 11 (01:04:13):
It would we know exactly what we're going to get.

Speaker 10 (01:04:15):
I feel like I watched a different South Carolina team
last year, Like, yeah, they.

Speaker 11 (01:04:18):
Almost beat LSU, they almost beat Alabama, but.

Speaker 10 (01:04:21):
They never do like they just never do this. I
walked away like maybe one time, like super impressed with
Sellers that he's a freak athlete. But I just don't
see any of this sort of height that this team gets.
Maybe a wall of no one who's saying this, But
I I feel like everyone's been high on them this year.

Speaker 2 (01:04:43):
Yeah, yeah, that's true.

Speaker 4 (01:04:45):
I haven't heard any bad press to your point, Hey,
to help us settle a debate, Seavens thirty seconds or last,
tell us why or why not Penn State can win
a national title this.

Speaker 11 (01:04:57):
It is the most experienced team in the country.

Speaker 10 (01:05:00):
I think even with losing some of the guys on defense,
they're still dat. I mean, I think they're going to
be really good. They have the alur most experienced quarterback
back there. You have a great running back room. I mean,
they're they're going against the playoffs. It's just how far
they can go.

Speaker 3 (01:05:15):
Yeah, I love it's a good argument. They're they're experienced
in losing big games too. But here the out numbered
two to one with the Penn State Hawks. On this show,
you're playing in the crowd.

Speaker 12 (01:05:29):
Get it?

Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
Uh time for the Seamous Special? What do you have
for a Seamus? Are you going with the first half
line or something else there?

Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
I do like that.

Speaker 10 (01:05:39):
I do love. I really want to take Kansas State here,
but I feel like that'd be like everyone's taking Kansas
State at this game at noon. It feels like we're
gonna need the cyclones here. But you know, I gotta
go to another FCS game. Give me Portland State getting
fifteen and a half at home against Carlton State, the

(01:06:00):
big road trip for Tarleton here week zero. I'll take
Portland State here.

Speaker 3 (01:06:04):
That is amazing, man. I love that, love that selection,
just based on principle alone. You know that's great? All right, Seamus,
good stuff as always, buddy, Hope you have a great
day and enjoy the ball. It's back finally.

Speaker 11 (01:06:17):
Yeah, enjoy the games, guys, Happy week zero.

Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
Yeah, same to you.

Speaker 3 (01:06:21):
Seamus McGee, team lead of sports Trading at BETMGM. Great
stuff as always. How about his selection of Nebraska. You know,
at the time of the hour, we'll do our five
futures bets, right, So you could look at season win totals,
you could look at all different types of markets, to
win the conference, to win the division, whether it's NFL,
college football, all kinds of If it's a future it's

(01:06:43):
on the betting menu. What do you think about Nebraska
and if you're thinking about a season win total or
what they're gonna do, you think major damage here?

Speaker 4 (01:06:53):
I mean, look, it's it's all a quarterback head coach league.

Speaker 2 (01:06:59):
It's the same one thing is the NFL.

Speaker 4 (01:07:01):
When you have a quality quarterback and equality head coach
and they are progressing well together, like Dylan Rayola and
Matt Rule, then you have an opportunity to do some
real damage.

Speaker 2 (01:07:15):
I think this could be a big year for Nebraska.

Speaker 4 (01:07:18):
It just it really comes up. Look, we know Rule
can coach at this level. It just comes down to
can Rayola make that next big jump?

Speaker 2 (01:07:26):
We'll see. I like it.

Speaker 6 (01:07:28):
I think the schedule favors them. They get Michigan at home.
They don't have to they go to Penn State, but
they don't have to play Ohio State. Their toughest game
is at Penn State. That's their toughest game of the year.
Their non conferences is a cinch since the Akron Houston Christian.
Then they play Michigan at home. Then they get to
buy their toughest road games this year other than at

(01:07:49):
Penn State. They only have to go out west once
to Ucla. They get USC at home. I mean, if
they're win total, I think it's eight and a half,
it might be seven and a half. If it's seven
and a half, love the over. If it's eight and
a half, I still think they can win nine games.
The question is can they get into the playoff at
nine wins? That would be the more interesting thing. Right now,
let me see them.

Speaker 3 (01:08:09):
Seven and a half.

Speaker 5 (01:08:11):
Oh yeah, you gotta bet. Now you're laying a lot
of juice there.

Speaker 6 (01:08:14):
But I mean, in reality, they're probably only dogs at
Penn State. Maybe they're dog to Michigan, but I think
with Underwood starting, that'll be I think Bryce Underwood's first
big ten game. You gotta imagine in Lincoln, Nebraska is
gonna be favored in that game. They might only be
dogs in one game all year at Penn.

Speaker 5 (01:08:34):
State, by the way, against USC.

Speaker 3 (01:08:37):
At the risk of sounding like I'm just bashing Penn
State again, seriously, it's a real question. I I don't
mean you, but I think we get into this habit
because James Franklin has been so good in so many games,
and I mean this is positive. There's no great way
to say this where it's gonna be a backheaded compliment
at some stage where he's lost a lot of big games.

(01:08:59):
But I'm really trying to get to I think we
go into a season and we circle the big games.
Are they gonna beat Oregon at home? Are they gonna
finally beat Ohio State on the road? But what about
the other games that we kind of take for granted.
Is there a Nebraska that you think could reasonably sneak
up on them? Is there any other you know, potential
bear trap on the schedule outside of those big games

(01:09:22):
you mean for Penn State, for Pe. Yeah, it's all
I'm saying. They're hosting Nebraska. Could Nebraska be one of
those teams ye sneak up? Absolutely? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:09:31):
Absolutely? And Penn State also plays Oregon at home in
a whiteout game. Pence, they plays three really tough games
this year. I think Nebraska is one tough game. Obviously
at Ohio State is the toughest game, and then Oregon
at home.

Speaker 5 (01:09:44):
I mean they could go nine and three. They absolutely
could go nine and three.

Speaker 4 (01:09:49):
I mean if they do, oh gosh, if they yeah,
and I'm not saying if they will or they won't,
but West Coast travel I think they go to each
LA this year.

Speaker 2 (01:09:59):
I mean it's there's there's weird things that happen, and.

Speaker 4 (01:10:02):
We we've seen this a million times where you know,
a Michigan that has no business hanging with the big
boys in the Big Ten toward the end of the
season last year steals a win.

Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
It's it's crazy. College football is my favorite sport.

Speaker 4 (01:10:18):
I and it's it's really flipped because it was the
NFL for a long time, but in terms of sports
leagues to follow it and it's because of it's because
of that factor where you're still dealing with kids who
I like to always say this line, like some of
these quarterbacks who are playing for billion dollar sports programs

(01:10:40):
are like months away from the last time they were
grounded by their parents, you know what I mean, Like,
it's it's kind of crazy when you think about the
level of responsibility that is being placed in the hands
of literal children.

Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
But but that's but that's the sports world.

Speaker 4 (01:10:58):
I mean it's even younger, excuse younger with soccer internationally,
Like some of these kids on these these European professional teams,
they're the recruitment starts at the club level at like
sixteen years old. I mean, they're fully paid professional players
where enormous amounts are gambled on their wins and losses
and their stat lines. So, I mean, it's it's not

(01:11:20):
unique to America. It's just it's just funny when you
think about the volatility of the sport and it's it's
really Yeah. So I mean, to answer your question more succinctly,
there's absolutely bear traps on the schedule that we're not seeing.

Speaker 6 (01:11:34):
I'll give you another one, and Rich I know you
know this one because this place has been a house
of horrors for us over the years. It's freaking Iowa City.
They have to go to Iowa City in the middle October. Oh,
weird things happen at Kinnick Stadium.

Speaker 2 (01:11:47):
Right, rich yep, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I experienced that firsthand.

Speaker 3 (01:11:51):
By the way, how about the measure Seamus McGee samous
very measured with the Malik Beasley thing right there.

Speaker 6 (01:12:02):
Watch, he's in a tough spot because of his job.
He can't really say what he's thinking.

Speaker 2 (01:12:07):
There.

Speaker 3 (01:12:08):
You read between the lines, you know, and it's kind
of like this freaking guy, are you kidding me? And
that's the vibe guy, get the same.

Speaker 2 (01:12:16):
That Brian we We I talked.

Speaker 5 (01:12:19):
We exchanged a lot of effects messages.

Speaker 10 (01:12:21):
He is.

Speaker 5 (01:12:23):
He is as opinionated as it gets on these matters.
He just is being a professional here.

Speaker 3 (01:12:28):
Well, the story with Malik Beasley, it was with the
Detroit Pistons last last year, great season, right, he made
all these three pointers. He was one tray away from
having the most three pointers in the NBA last season.
That's how well he did. It was only Anthony uh,
it was only Ants from the the Timberwolves.

Speaker 11 (01:12:50):
Right.

Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
He's the only guy who had more three pointers than
Malik Beasley. It's pretty crazy. That's Anthony, yeah, man, And
you don't think of him as a three point shooter,
but lit it up. But anyway, Beasley, he made three
hundred and nineteen three pointers last season, and then all
of a sudden, he's the focus of a federal gambling investigation.

(01:13:14):
The feds are all over him from two seasons ago
when he was with the Bucks.

Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
There was some.

Speaker 3 (01:13:20):
Shady details, some weird swings in the betting market and
all of that, and so all of a sudden, he's
facing this investigation. Now he's no longer a target. He's
off the hook right now, and it's like, wow, okay,
So if you look at the dollars and cents, the
Pistons were looking to offer him a three year, forty
two million dollar contract, and now as a result of

(01:13:41):
the Piston signed Kris Lavert to the full mid level exception.
That means the max they can sign Beasley for is
seven point two million this season. So he went from
being offered fourteen million per season to now only seven
million dollars per season. It's half of what he could
have made. There's some other teams that have more cash

(01:14:01):
to spend. But where he ends up we'll find out.
But what a random story the timing of it, where
he's on the cusp of signing a free agent deal
with the Pistons, all of a sudden, there's this gambling investigation.
The Pistons and all these other teams are like, whoa,
let's see where this goes. No contract yet, and now
he's been cleared and the market is completely different. Now

(01:14:22):
it's a crazy story.

Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
It really is.

Speaker 4 (01:14:26):
It's unfortunate that these stories seem to be popping up
more often.

Speaker 2 (01:14:31):
But this is something that I know that I've commented on.

Speaker 4 (01:14:34):
And you guys, we've spoken about it many times on
this show already, but it bears repeating that when you
have a closer eye paying attention to these infractions, you're
gonna find more of them. It's like, I mean, the
comparison I made a couple of weeks back was if
everybody speeds on a road, but there's no cop to
register whether or not people are abiding by the speed limit.

(01:14:58):
Is anybody speeding, Well, the answer is obviously yes, but
nobody's getting caught for it.

Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
As soon as you put a speed.

Speaker 4 (01:15:05):
Gun on that road, you're gonna start seeing the tickets
increase exponentially. And that's what's happened with this. There's a
closer eye, a closer filtration system being placed on these
athletes who may or may not be partaking in some
illicit activity and so you're gonna catch.

Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
More of them. That's just what it is.

Speaker 4 (01:15:26):
If you sit in the backyard for long enough and
you say, hey, you know, there aren't so many bugs out,
but then you put out a bugs apper in every
three seconds you hear the thing go off, you it
might change your opinion on how many bugs.

Speaker 2 (01:15:40):
Are in the backyard. It's just the way this works.

Speaker 4 (01:15:44):
And so we're going through that period of time where
I think, you know, in terms of the infractions, we're
going to see a bunch of them and then it's
gonna slow down. But we're in that time where we're
going to catch a bunch of speeders on the road,
and easily it felt like you was easily going to
be one of them.

Speaker 3 (01:16:03):
Yeah, I'm just The last thing I'll say is it
makes me wonder if there are any athletes that are
savvy enough to get away with this stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:16:13):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:16:14):
It's like you ever see the movie with Denzel American Gangster.
Where's a part in the movie where he's like, no
one talks to me on the phone. Everyone talks to Huey, Huey,
you talk to me, all right, Like we're not doing
this on the phone. Is it Maybe there's not a
telegram chat like you know on John tay Porter's phone
with Malik Beasley and he said he tells someone, Hey,

(01:16:35):
here's what's gonna happen. Here's right, Like, is it possible? Absolutely,
it's possible. We just look at a lot of these
athletes as these these dudes that make these stupid decisions
and don't get away with it. But there's got to
be someone somewhere I would bet that is giving inside
information and not getting busted for it. You guys think

(01:16:59):
that's that's the case here. It's certainly possible, I think
hundred percent do Yeah, it's hard to prove one.

Speaker 4 (01:17:06):
I mean, look ask any college professor whether or not
there's gambling happening at the NBA or NFL level because
they're trying to cheat proof their tests and it's literally
impossible in today's day and age.

Speaker 3 (01:17:19):
Right, all right, that's Rich joorn Berger, Penn State All American,

(01:18:06):
is time for the tire rack play of the day.

Speaker 12 (01:18:13):
Williams wants the throat for it and that's caught touchdown
Bears a doom day gets the score for Chicago, a
three yard touchdown catch.

Speaker 3 (01:18:25):
There it is complements of NFL Network, the Bears finally
doing something against the backups of the Chiefs defense. There
nothing against the chief starters. We'll get that in the
next hour. But for over forty years, Tiraq has been

(01:18:49):
tire rack dot Com the way tire buying should be.
All right, let's dive into.

Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
This prop it up player plays.

Speaker 3 (01:19:00):
Okay, Jared, we start with you prop betscalore with something
you like.

Speaker 6 (01:19:04):
Well, the Avery Johnson rushing prop fifty nine and a
half yards. We've already discussed how much we hate rushing
yard props for quarterbacks because of the sack element. Last
year he did face Iowa State, it was on the road,
it was state side late in the year. He had
sixty four yards rushing, no touchdowns, and he took a
sack in that game too, So I think it's fair
to say that he can go over that prop. But

(01:19:24):
I think he just scores a touchdown in this game.
It's basically even odds minus one zho five at bet MGM.
I did see some evan odds out there elsewhere in
the market, but I think Avery Johnson finds the end zone.

Speaker 5 (01:19:34):
I think the running game is going to be prevalent
for Kansas State today.

Speaker 6 (01:19:38):
So I'll go Avery Johnson anytime touchdown over at bet
MGM minus one oh five.

Speaker 2 (01:19:43):
Okay, cool. I'm also staying in the same game.

Speaker 4 (01:19:47):
On a rushing prop, Iowa States running back Carson Hanson
sixty plus rushing yards also about even odds here. I
really really like Hiowa States rushing attack from a year ago.

Speaker 2 (01:20:00):
I really like Hanson. He was like a five yard
per Carrie rusher a year ago.

Speaker 4 (01:20:05):
And even though k State can be stingy on the ground,
I think this game in general favors the run game.
It's going to be a little bit cooler out there
in Ireland. You're going to have travel weary teams looking
to rely on the rushing attack. So give me Carson
Hanson plus sixty rushing yards.

Speaker 2 (01:20:23):
In this one.

Speaker 3 (01:20:24):
You know, I do like to bet Chelsea Gray from
time to time and pick her and prop it up,
but I might save that for the end of the show.
Let's keep a college football right here for prop it up.
I'll stick with the same game and along the same lines.
Is what you guys are thinking here. It might be
a collective effort right here, but looking at Avery Johnson
under two hundred and eight and a half passing yards,

(01:20:47):
so we can't exceed too well. Yeah, for a couple
of reasons, you guys are talking about right, the three
three five defense, it's lends itself more towards rushing. I
think K State's going to have success running the football.
Why are you gonna throw into a you know, like
a five man secondary a lot of times? I don't
think they're gonna do that, just over and over and
over and over again. And also, you know, I just

(01:21:10):
think that the weather and all that, you know, factors out.
I think it's gonna be a lower passing game for
Avery Johnson. What is going on? Happy Saturday to you
as ball is back. I'll tell you what. We have
a mega helping of back to the futures. All futures
bets on the table, will share five of them that

(01:21:33):
we like. That's per person, per host on the show.
That's a lot of picks right there. We'll do that
in just a minute. Hey, with the iHeartRadio app, you

top of your screen. Okay, mega addition of back to
the futures. So we're looking at anything that's a futures bet.
It could be as simple as a season win total
NFL or college football. Do you like the over the under?

Speaker 2 (01:22:16):
Right?

Speaker 3 (01:22:16):
It could be college football, playoff odds, super Bowl odds,
season player props. Right, anything that you like that's a
future is fair freaking game. So we start with you,
Jared Smith, what are your five picks?

Speaker 6 (01:22:32):
I went back and forth on whether or not I
wanted to throw in an NFL pick. I decided against it,
even though I do have one NFL win total I
really like. Maybe I'll give it out at a future
time before the NFL season starts. But I have five
college win totals. They're all Power Conference teams. These are
all teams, you know, They're all teams you love. Maybe
actually we're gonna hate one of them this year, hopefully,

(01:22:54):
But here we go. I'm starting with Bama over nine
and a half wins. I think this is the Kaalin
de War year.

Speaker 2 (01:22:59):
Right.

Speaker 6 (01:22:59):
Second, you're not replacing Nick Saban anymore, right, you have
that transition year behind you, and I think this Bama
team the deepest roster in the country thirteen five stars on.

Speaker 5 (01:23:09):
They're too deep. The defense will be significantly better this year.

Speaker 6 (01:23:12):
Tys Simpson, I think is going to really thrive. Finally,
to Bor has a quarterback not Jaln Milroe, who can
really thrive in the style of offense that the Boar
wants to run. Their toughest game is at Georgia. They're
going to be favored in the other eleven. I think
after missing the playoff last year, I think Bama's in
the playoff this year. Ten and two feels like the
right number. So we'll go over nine and a half
wins for Obama. Do you want me to go all

(01:23:33):
five or do we go and rapid fire here?

Speaker 2 (01:23:35):
Brian?

Speaker 5 (01:23:35):
What do we want?

Speaker 2 (01:23:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:23:36):
Go for it all right, I'll stay in the SEC.
My sleeper team in the SEC this year is Texas
A and M. I'm going over seven and a half wins.
It's juicy minus one seventy, but I think they get
to eight. I think Marcel Reid's going to have a
fantastic here. He's an RPO king. Leveon Moss's back. The
offensive line is absolutely loaded and they return eight starters

(01:23:58):
on defense. Mike Elko very underrated coach, No Bama, no Georgia.

Speaker 5 (01:24:02):
On the schedule.

Speaker 6 (01:24:03):
They get South Carolina Florida at home, their toughest games
at Notre Dame, who beat them in College station last year.
They owe your Irish one b O at LSU at Texas.
So I think nine and three feels like the right
number here. Eight and four still gets us over seven
and a half wins. So A and M my sleeper
in the SEC. This year they got a back door
shot at the playoff. They can upset one of those

(01:24:24):
tough games. I think A and M over seven and
a half wins. Let's go to the Big ten. I
have two overs in the Big ten, Washington over seven
and a half wins. Demon Williams and Jonah Coleman. Remember
those names. You're gonna want to jop those names down people,
because one of the more underrated quarterback receiver duos in
the country. I think Jetfish is a very gifted offensive coach.

(01:24:44):
This is year two. You kind of distance yourself right
from Kalin De Borho said the same thing about Bama.
You're not replacing the bor anymore. You've had a year
of transition. You open with Colorado State UC Davis Wazoo.
I mean that's three wins right out of the gate.
Only two trips to the Eastern time zone this year.
You don't have to play Penn State. You get Oregon
at home, you get Illinois at home. Who I'm down on.

(01:25:06):
Everyone loves Illinois. I don't see it. I think eight
and four for the Huskies, very much in play and
maybe upset Oregon. Maybe you got a chance to sneak
into the playoff. USC over seven and a half wins.
Shout out to our producer Bo Benson. This one's juicy
two laying a dollar seventy five. But eight wins feels
like a very modest year for a Lincoln Riley team.
I mean that's expectations very low to get to eight

(01:25:28):
wins and we get over this total. The defense has
a pulse, the offense gets their quarterback returning in mayava
they should start four and oho Missouri State, Georgia, Southern, Perdue,
Michigan State. Then you get that game against Illinois in
late September. But I'm down on Illinois. You don't have
to play Ohio State, you don't have to play Penn State.
They're two tough games at Notre Dame at Oregon, but
eight and four, I mean that feels like the floor

(01:25:49):
for this team. And finally one under in the ACC.
We're going SMU under eight and a half wins. Kevin
Jennings is back, but everyone else, literally everyone else is gone.
You lost two all conferences Lineman, you lost three of
the top four receivers, you lost your school record breaking
running back and seven all conference defenders. Tough non conference
in state game against Baylor, their dogs at TCU, their

(01:26:11):
dogs at Clemson, their dogs at home to Miami, toss
up games at Boston College and against Louisville. This smells
like a seven and five year after that magical run
to the CFP last year. So SMU under eight and
a half wins A and M over seven and a half, wins,
USC over seven and a half wins, Washington over seven
and a half, wins BAMA over nine and a half wins.

Speaker 4 (01:26:33):
Okay, I love the analytical perspective. This one is a
little bit more simplified, and it comes down.

Speaker 2 (01:26:40):
To three metrics.

Speaker 4 (01:26:41):
In my brain, I chose all overs, and I chose
all NFL win totals. Okay, okay. So the metrics that
I looked at was do I love their quarterback? Do
I love their coach? And does the number feel right
to me? Like in the pit of my stomach when
I look at the win total doesn't make sense to

(01:27:02):
my eyes. And in all five cases, the over sung
out loud to me. We'll start with New England. The
Patriots love Rabel. I think he's a great coach. I
think he's a great culture creator. And I think Drake
May is a real quarterback. And I think he's going
to be a real NFL quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:27:18):
Will he be elite?

Speaker 4 (01:27:20):
I don't know if he'll be elite, but I can
tell you he can hold water at this level. So
give me the over eight and a half Pittsburgh. That's
a real quarterback, and that's a real coach. A lot
of people hate on Aaron Rodgers because he's arrogant and
they hate the press clippings. If you can ignore the
noise and cut through all of the bolooney and look
at the quarterback, that's a baller, even after forty years

(01:27:42):
of age. Mike Tomlin's a real coach. That numbers too low.
Give me the over eight and a half wins in
Pittsburgh Las Vegas. Love the coach. Pete Carroll is a
culture creator, very similar to Rabel. Defensive minded coach, but
he surrounds himself with ten and he has so on
the offensive side of the ball. I think Gino Smith

(01:28:03):
makes sense in the Desert. I think they are wildly
undervalued at six and a half wins. Give me the
over with Vegas San Francisco. Y'all must have forgot Rock
Purdy can play at this level. I know he had
a down year. He was also banged up the entire season.
Kyle Shanahan's a great coach. He's a QB whisper. Ten

(01:28:24):
and a half is too low. I think this is
going to be a team that could buy for a
Super Bowl this year. And the Los Angeles Chargers again,
same metrics and same feeling on the win total. Jim
Harbaugh he can take a can of soup a quarterback
and make something happen.

Speaker 2 (01:28:40):
He really can.

Speaker 4 (01:28:41):
Now he's gotten lucky and he's been gifted with some
real talent at that position. And it's happened again with
the Los Angeles Chargers and Justin Herbert.

Speaker 2 (01:28:51):
But I like their running back room.

Speaker 4 (01:28:53):
I think their offensive line, even with the subtraction of
Slater out for the season, is still going to be
able to open up holes and lanes and keep Justin
Herbert upright longer and better than they did a year ago.
Give me the over the nine and a half wins
with La C. So that's New England over eight and
a half, Pittsburgh over eight and a half, Las Vegas
over six and a half, San Francisco over ten and

(01:29:16):
a half, in the Chargers over nine.

Speaker 2 (01:29:18):
And a half.

Speaker 3 (01:29:19):
Love it, okay?

Speaker 2 (01:29:20):
All right?

Speaker 3 (01:29:21):
You know I did have your Steelers bet circled as well,
you know, just like, okay, all of all of our picks.
Every time, I'll have like ten more picks than I
need and I have to win it down whatever, and
then it's the ones you don't give out.

Speaker 2 (01:29:38):
But I hear you.

Speaker 3 (01:29:38):
I just wanted to co sign what you're saying. I'm
not gonna give it out because you did Rich, But
Steelers over eight and a half. I don't make the rules.
They just they Mike Tomlett has a winning record every
single freaking that's right.

Speaker 6 (01:29:50):
You want to hear a dirty little secret? What's that
I went under on the Steelers eight and a half
this year. Oh my god, it's a small It's like
one of my smaller I bet all thirty two win
totals because I'm a free in the NFL.

Speaker 5 (01:30:01):
It was one of my smaller bets. But I just
it's a Rogers thing. I'm scarred.

Speaker 3 (01:30:06):
Yeah, I don't know, man, I just look at it
where they just do enough, you know, right, they didn't
have I'm.

Speaker 5 (01:30:12):
Probably gonna lose this bet. I'm probably gonna lose this bet.

Speaker 3 (01:30:14):
They won ten games last year, they didn't have stellar quarterbacks.
And I just think about this too. I hadn't even
considered this. I just thought, on one side, what if
Rogers wins big this year. I don't think it's gonna happen,
but what if? Just think about the ultimate? But what
do you have to say now moment? What if the

(01:30:35):
only year Mike Tomlin doesn't have a winning record is
with Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 5 (01:30:42):
That would be wild.

Speaker 3 (01:30:44):
It's possible, but that it doesn't sound right.

Speaker 2 (01:30:46):
Doesn't know, it really doesn't know.

Speaker 6 (01:30:48):
But then going ten ten wins last year with Russell
Wilson doesn't sound right either.

Speaker 5 (01:30:53):
But it happened.

Speaker 3 (01:30:53):
Yeah, that's true, it did. Okay, I'll go rapid fire
with my five futures bets. First off, she to win
the division. It's minus one eighteen. I will happily like
I'll strugg I won't happily lose this bet. I'll shrug
my shoulders like you know what, I don't even hate
myself like that to me is a good bet. Yeah,

(01:31:14):
where a Mike oh Haywire. Maybe there are a couple
of big injuries and whatever, they don't win the division.
But if they don't, I'm just gonna shrug my shoulders
on that one. They are the class of the division. Still,
the talk is stupid about all the Eagles showed something.
The rest of the league. They they're you know, we
figured out the Chiefs. No, we haven't stop it. Mahomes

(01:31:37):
is thirty five and five against the AFC West, and
I'm supposed to ride with the Chargers or Broncos to win.
I'm not, no, sorry, It's still the Chiefs still have
a tough defense. Mahomes has even more healthy targets this season.
I love the Chiefs to win the division. I'll stay
positive here. Give me the Cowboys over five and a

(01:31:58):
half wins, over seven and a half wins, that too,
we're just like, I get it right, They're dumb. They're
dumb with the whole Michah Parsons like quote unquote negotiation,
that's not a negotiation. It's not talking to the age,
and it's ridiculous. But if you get beyond that, I
still think Michaeh. Parsons is gonna be there. And Dak Prescott, Right,

(01:32:20):
Dak has won at least eight games in the seven
of the nine years he's been the starter. And the
fine print is that the two years it's when he
was banged up and his season was short, it's cut short.
Like last year he started eight games, they still won
seven games. Right, So you get a healthy Dak with
Ceedee Lamb and George Pickens, they're gonna be winning games.

(01:32:42):
So I'll take over seven and a half with the Cowboys.
Give me a couple unders here, I'm gonna fade the Jets.
Give me under six and a half wins. They've been
a bottom ten offense in each of the last nine years,
and Justin Fields is just gonna unlock them. Color skeptical,
all right, I'm fading the Jets happily. I'm gonna fade

(01:33:04):
the Bears, also under eight and a half wins. They're
not ready for primetime, simply put, and then also look
at their schedule. Their division is tough, and then the
divisions that they play outside of their own top to bottom.
NFC East not easy, AFC North not easy either. Take
it a step further. They're playing a last place schedule,

(01:33:26):
so they do get the Saints, but the other last
place games are not incredibly advantageous. Right They're at the Raiders,
They're at the Niners on a Sunday night toward the
end of the season. That's a tough road. And I
know we're diddy with Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams flashed
in his first preseason action against the Bills, but look

(01:33:49):
at them last night, their first team offense against the
Chiefs first team defense. The Bears could do nothing. They
are not ready for primetime. I will take under eight
and a half half wins and the last one, man,
I'd like to work a player prop in there, maybe
a college pick, but I just like the Bengals enough,
like the steam is coming down, like the steam is

(01:34:11):
going the other way. On the under, I'll take the over.
I'll take over nine and a half wins for Cincy.
I know, I know, the defense is not a work
of art. The defense is probably gonna struggle again this season,
but you get Shamar Stewart in there, and even if there,
I just it's rare that a team won't win double

(01:34:33):
digit games when a quarterback like Joe Burrow is putting
up such elite numbers, and unless he gets hurt, I
think he's gonna have another elite season. I'll take my
chances they get to double digit wins if Joe Burrow
is somewhat in the vicinity of his production as last season.
And you can look back to last year, there are
a couple of gross losses from the Bengals. Right, they

(01:34:56):
had an overtime kick against the Ravens and they were dumb.
They settled for a long field goal and he missed it.
And even earlier than that, at Kansas City on the road,
it was something ridiculous like fourth and fifteen and Kansas
City converted. Those easily could have been wins. And also
the Bengals have been such slow starters. They're playing their

(01:35:16):
ones in the preseason and they have a soft launch
right just like Week zero here today they're at Cleveland,
and then they host Jacksonville. That could be two and
zero right there. I don't think they start as slowly.
I'll take the Bengals over nine and a half wins,
So there you go. Choose to win the division, Cowboys

(01:35:37):
over seven and a half, Jets under six and a half,
Bears under eight and a half, and give me the
Bengals over nine and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:35:46):
There you okay, okay? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:35:48):
You know what's amazing is I think I agree with
all of our picks, our official back to the future picks,
and I.

Speaker 2 (01:35:58):
Always feel this way with our.

Speaker 4 (01:36:01):
You know about fifty better than ever are going to
be wrong, and how is that possible?

Speaker 5 (01:36:06):
I thinks are honestly win totals.

Speaker 6 (01:36:09):
Like my advice for people that like to bet, you know,
on individual games every week. I understand how it feels
good to get the money back in your account, but
you are getting more bang for your buck if you
spread that out over the full season. Now you have
to have a bigger bank roll because you have to
know the money just sits in your account for four months,
five months, until you get the money back if you win.

(01:36:31):
But I think it's a more efficient wager because Tabino's
point about the Bengals last year, Like you just kind
of iron out some of those weird results and they
tend to balance out over the course of the full season.
So directionally, if you are right on your feelings or
handicap on a certain team, your chances of winning a
win total that is spraced out for the whole season

(01:36:53):
I think is better. So I love betting win totals.
I bet all thirty two NFL win totals. I don't
bet big on all of them. Wow, I few I do,
But I do that every year because I like to
have an opinion on all thirty two teams, and I
think it's just a more efficient wager.

Speaker 3 (01:37:06):
What's your Dolphins opinion?

Speaker 5 (01:37:07):
I'm sorry, I'm on that. However, it went under eight
and a half. Now it's seven and a half, and
I kind of want to bet the over, right.

Speaker 3 (01:37:15):
No, I'll tell you what, because you can bet these
season win totals all year, all throughout the season. I'll
tell you what. These people like I just mentioned their
steam on the under Bengals nine and a half, don't
bet it before week one. I would suggest bet it
after Week two. I think they're gonna beat the Browns

(01:37:35):
on the road. I would agree, and I like them
at home against Jacksonville. So let's just say they go
to and oh, it's nine and a half. That's their
their season win total, that's their their prop right, it's
going up. It's gonna go up to probably ten and
a half with heavy juice to the over. Why would
you bet under nine and a half right now at

(01:37:55):
close to even money? Just wait, wait until the first
two games come in. Go and I think you're gonna
get a better number if you like the under.

Speaker 6 (01:38:03):
Here's one more small piece of advice. The integer numbers
are really attractive to me. What don't mean by integer
the flat numbers? For example, on the Bengals, if you
like the under, there is a ten available in the
market right now.

Speaker 5 (01:38:17):
That means they have to win.

Speaker 6 (01:38:19):
Eleven games in order for you to lose the bet.
And same thing on the flip side. If you're betting
and over, if you get a nine and a half,
try to find a nine, because then nine and eight
you don't lose. So I think the integer like and
usually I don't like pushes. But if I'm waiting an

(01:38:40):
entire season for this bet to cash or just be graded,
getting your money back is to me favorable. I didn't
lose the wager, I get the money back, and I
get to play it back again. So I think that
is just a little tip if you can find if
you have multiple options. Obviously we prefer BETMGM here usually
go in half wins for all of their win totals.

(01:39:03):
But if you can find an integer on some of these,
bet on some of these win totals also a very
favorable wager.

Speaker 3 (01:39:09):
The integer angle.

Speaker 2 (01:39:12):
I love.

Speaker 3 (01:39:12):
That's great advice, really.

Speaker 5 (01:39:13):
Good key, Thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
I try.

Speaker 3 (01:39:15):
That's Jared Smith right there. FSR betting analyst Rich Ornberger
with US Penn State All American. His advice wasn't nearly
as good. I'm kidding, I'm kidding.

Speaker 2 (01:39:23):
Totally acurate. I'm Brian, though.

Speaker 3 (01:39:27):

Speaker 2 (01:40:27):
Show countdown Heisman Watch.

Speaker 3 (01:40:34):
Yeah, there we go, little Heisman watch for you at
the beginning of the season again Week zero soft launch,
soft launch. But even though we don't have great Heisman
candidates in the games today, I think we got to
get this out in the open before Week one rolls around. Right, So, uh,
what do you think, Jared Smith, anyone in particular you
got circled on your Heisman watch list.

Speaker 6 (01:40:57):
I only have one bet in pocket. I made it
about a month ago. It was Leonora's Sellers at twenty
five to one. Now it's down to fourteen to one. Now,
am I gonna run at the window and bet Lenaro
Seller's at fourteen to one to win the Sword? No,
Shamus laid it out in our last hour. I think
South Carolina probably needs to win eight games minimum, right,
Jaye Daniels won eight the LSU year that he won
the Heisman. I think eight is the floor, but I

(01:41:21):
don't know if South Carolina can get there. And I
think at fourteen to one, him being the fifth favorite
on the board is pretty pretty aggressive. But I do
think if you're gonna ask me who is the most talented,
who has the highest upside of any quarterback? I think
I might go Lenora Sellers. I'm not going Arch Manning.
I'm not going Drew Awler because I think those defenses
are just too good and I don't think those quarterbacks

(01:41:42):
are going to be relied on to have big seasons. Now,
Aler's got some big time weapons coming into portal, which
is very exciting Painya and Hudson, but we'll see. I
think Jeremiah Smith at ten to one makes sense. I
think Kay club Nick and nine to one makes sense.
I think both those teams are gonna have great years
win loss wise, and I think both of those players
jump off the page. But if I had to give
you one pick now that I have in pocket that

(01:42:04):
I think still has a fighter's chance to win. I
don't love the number, but I think Leonora Sellers, I
really do love his upside, and I think South Carolina
they can win eight or nine games.

Speaker 5 (01:42:14):
I think he's gonna be in New York.

Speaker 4 (01:42:16):
Yeah, I wish there was more value for this pick
because I agree with what exactly what you said. I
think they're going to have to win their way into
him having a Heisman campaign. But in terms of just
raw talent. You should have seen my eyes when you
said Leonora Sellers. My eyes darted to the screen and
I was like, yeah, we got the same guy.

Speaker 2 (01:42:36):
Uh. True dual threat quarterback.

Speaker 4 (01:42:38):
If you're unfamiliar with this game, He's got an unbelievable arm.
He could throw it anywhere, and and he's drong in
comparison to Cam Newton, Like he's the type of guy
who can run round you, but he.

Speaker 2 (01:42:50):
Will barrel through you as well.

Speaker 4 (01:42:53):
Fun guy to watch, Gonna be one of those seasons
where you're gonna see a lot of his highlights and
then you're gonna start watching the games to say, Okay,
the hype is real, just like Jayden Daniels. So yeah,
give me Leonora's Sellers as well. We have we already
have consensus on the show. Here be no is it
gonna be a three.

Speaker 2 (01:43:12):
For It's wild.

Speaker 3 (01:43:13):
You guys are not gonna believe this, but Leonora's Sellers
is not on my list.

Speaker 5 (01:43:19):
With shame has talked him off earlier.

Speaker 2 (01:43:23):
Yeah, everyone's on South Carolina.

Speaker 3 (01:43:25):
What what number did you bet him on?

Speaker 2 (01:43:27):
Bet him?

Speaker 5 (01:43:27):
I bet him twenty five to one.

Speaker 3 (01:43:29):
Twenty five to one. Yeah, good, and well I think.

Speaker 6 (01:43:31):
South Carolina's got some tough for games early, so maybe
you wait till they lose a game and then he
drops and then you bet him, like you don't have
to make this bet now, but I would put him
on your watch.

Speaker 5 (01:43:39):
List for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:43:41):
Okay, you guys are gonna call me a homer, but
c J. Cart No, I'm just kidding, like jeremil I
was about to. Yeah, no, no, not Jeremiah Love either,
even though he's he should have a spectacular season again,
should you know? I'll tell you as far as like
a realistic long shot. I was just joking with CJ.
Carr is fifty to one could be the Notre Dame

(01:44:02):
new quarterback. But I mean you're talking true freshman, you know, dude,
luck winning the Heisman like that, Dylan Ryola.

Speaker 2 (01:44:10):
Yeah, you know, like, could he just hit this.

Speaker 3 (01:44:15):
Season and all of a sudden Nebraska is winning a
lot more games than many expected. Matt Ruhle, you know,
year three, this is go time. He has a lot
of success. It all could come together and I could
see forty to one becoming a lot shorter than that age.
So that's that's one long shot to look at. But
I love Jeremiah Smith out of Ohio State. He's the

(01:44:36):
best player in college football. You give him at ten
to one, I think there's a tendency to look at man,
I kind of want a minimum of like forty five
to one. Dude, you if you hit a ten to
one parlay today, you'd be ecstatic. Yep, Like, don't just
dismiss a ten to one future because you want it
to be a fifty to one future. Ten to one

(01:44:56):
is pretty good. Yeah, And the reasons for Jeremiah Smith
listen again, best player in college football, New quarterback. That's important.
So if he puts up big numbers, he's gonna be
looked at as the constant. He's gonna get the lion's
share of the credit. It's not gonna be the new quarterback,
Julian saying, it's gonna be Smith, right, Smith over saying,

(01:45:18):
uh so I think that. Yeah, just saying I think
Jeremiah Smith putting up big numbers in what could be
another special season for Ohio State. It's gonna stand out.
And if he becomes a Heisman winner, he'll just be
the fifth wide receiver to do it. To win the Heisman.
You got Johnny Rodgers at Nebraska, who also was a
running back, partially my guy, Tim Brown with the Irish,

(01:45:40):
Desmond Howard with Michigan, Davonte Smith with Alabama. That's the
list of Heisman winning wide receivers. So Jeremiah Smith trying
to be the fifth guy.

Speaker 6 (01:45:51):
Ohio State's so interesting this year because how do you like,
how do you play them? Do you take away Jeremiah
Smith and do you elect Carnel Tait and Brandon and
it's go crazy or do you say, listen, Jeremiah Smith
is gonna get his let's make sure that we don't
get you know, tattooed by these other receivers and just
play Smith straight up, Like I'm gonna be fascinated, especially

(01:46:12):
the first game against Texas has a really good defense.
What is the strategy Because to your point, b No,
if they play the other guys straight up and they
give Jeremiah Smith just you know, average off.

Speaker 5 (01:46:22):
Coverage, he's gonna have an incredible year.

Speaker 2 (01:46:24):
Man.

Speaker 6 (01:46:25):
But maybe they just say, screw you, Jeremiah. We're not
gonna let you go off for two hundred yards every game.
We're gonna let Carnell Tat and Brandon and and who,
by the way, are incredibly talented receivers like probably would
be one number one receivers on almost every other team
in the country Tate Nennis. But those are the two
and the three on Ohio State. So I think the
strategy for how teams play the Buck guys this year

(01:46:47):
is going to have a huge impact on that highs
con raands.

Speaker 3 (01:46:49):
Yeah, that's a good point.

Speaker 2 (01:46:51):
Hi.

Speaker 3 (01:46:52):
By the way, I wanted to throw out some NFL
trades with you guys because it's been an interesting week, right,
A lot of movement, a lot of trades. Players going
from here to there. But to me, it's not just
the trade itself, it's the bigger picture of the trades
right where if you look at the Niners, this is
an interesting one. The Chiefs traded sky More wide receiver

(01:47:13):
to San Francisco. That's not like, whoa, they got sky More?
Look at it, right, it's look at what the Niners
are dealing with wide receiver wise. So we know Brandon
Aiyuki's recovering from that knee injury, Juwan Jennings is banged
up with the calf injury, Jordan Watkins has a high
ankle sprain. DeMarcus Robinson got suspended for the first three games.

(01:47:35):
You got all this stuff going on with the Niners,
and I know they have a really favorable schedule, but man,
what's going on with wide receiver around brock Purty is
not a great situation for San Francisco at the beginning
of the year.

Speaker 2 (01:47:48):
Here, No, no, it isn't.

Speaker 4 (01:47:51):
And also, you know, this is kind of a little
bit of an interesting picture or portrayal pain did in
Kansas City.

Speaker 2 (01:48:02):
You know, Skymore didn't work out.

Speaker 4 (01:48:03):
There was a lot of buzz if you remember early
preseason when he first got there in Kansas City about
how he was going to be, you know, an exciting
and explosive pickup for the Chiefs and it just never materialized. Yeah,
which I'm gonna say this. I think it's the factory
that it felt like Kansas City was prior or, prior

(01:48:28):
to Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelcey's initial success, it slowed
down a little bit. I don't know if it's over.
It's I don't think it's over, like you said, I
think they'll win the division earlier, Brian, but the Kansas
City Chiefs aren't developing talent as at quick as quickly
as they were in previous years.

Speaker 1 (01:48:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:48:49):
I think the Niners are still going to have a
pretty good year.

Speaker 3 (01:48:51):
I really do.

Speaker 6 (01:48:52):
And to your point about the Chiefs, this could be
the Mahomes get back year. Yeah, it really could be. Yeah,
he looked great and I know it was preseason last night,
but man, he was chucking it around all over the
field last night. I didn't give this out and back
to the futures obviously because it's a long shot back.

Speaker 5 (01:49:10):
But my biggest awards market wagers so far in the NFL,
I have two full units on Mahomes to an MVP.

Speaker 3 (01:49:19):
Wow, Okay, I think.

Speaker 6 (01:49:22):
Love and Party are kind of in the mix too
as quarterbacks that could have you know, thirteen fourteen win seasons.
But it's been such a quarterback success award over the
last decade plus. If Mahomes and the Chiefs win fifteen
games and he has even a shred of a statistical
bounce back year because last year was not a great
statistical year for him or the Chiefs.

Speaker 5 (01:49:43):
They won a lot of games, but he didn't really
play that well.

Speaker 6 (01:49:46):
If you increase that statistical output this year and they
go fourteen and three, fifteen and two, I think, I mean,
it's been like a rotation guys the last three years. Right,
it's Allan, it's Jackson, it's Mahomes.

Speaker 5 (01:49:57):
Those have been your last three MVPs.

Speaker 6 (01:49:59):
It just feels like those are the best three quarterbacks
in the league, and one of those three guys should
win the MVP if that team produces, you.

Speaker 5 (01:50:07):
Know, a high level of wins.

Speaker 2 (01:50:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:50:10):
I you know, we didn't give out any player props
in the Yeah, back to the futures. But building off
what you're saying there, Jared, if you look at Mahomes
his passing yards for the season, forty to fifty and
a half because hafed a little over four thousand yards.
He was under four thousand barely last season thirty nine

(01:50:30):
to twenty eight, but his other six seasons he's been
over four thousand yards. Yeah, and man, when you get
a healthy you know Rashie Rice, Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy,
that's a lot of talent. We know that Rashie Rice
is gonna miss a few games due to suspension. We'll
find out how many. But man's that's a lot of talent.

(01:50:51):
I'm with you, Jared. I think this could be a
back to prominence type year for Mahomes. There's another trade
in the war hasn't been completed yet, but how about
this the Vikings inquiring about Carolina Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen.
So obviously used to play for the Vikings. But what's
interesting about this again, not the trade itself, Not only

(01:51:14):
the trade itself, it's like the bigger picture around that
trade should it happen. So Jordan Addison, he's gonna be
serving a three game suspension. Jalen Naylor, he's dealing with
a hand injury. And if this trade goes down, Adam
Thielen could end up starting for the Vikings in Week one,
which to me is like wow, right, Like, for a

(01:51:36):
couple of reasons, you got J J. McCarthy first year starter,
and we're just gonna make a trade right before week
one and we'll just figure it out on the fly.
That doesn't sound great, right, So and on the Panthers
side too, their offense, their ones have really struggled in
the preseason, especially Bryce Young. You just trade Adam Thielen
right before Week one? Not great for their offense either,

(01:51:59):
So interesting trade in the works. We'll see if it
goes down.

Speaker 4 (01:52:03):
Yeah, And it says a lot about both squads, right,
Like the same way we're talking about San Francisco Vikings
in a in a similar not same situation, Vikings coming
off a better season but untested a quarterback. San Francisco
coming off a war season but consistency at the position. Yeah,
and then Carolina if that trade goes down, it says

(01:52:26):
a lot of what they think about Bryce Young, you
know what I mean? Like how expendable are any offensive
weapons that he's really comfortable with at this point? Are
you truly setting him up for success or are you
setting yourself up for a future where you can move
on from Bryce Young.

Speaker 5 (01:52:43):
I think it's gonna happen.

Speaker 6 (01:52:45):
Yeah, I do think that trade's gonna happen, based on
the rumors I'm hearing. Nothing confirmed, but I don't think
you inquire right about a trade this late unless you're
making that trade or you're really serious, and you don't
see trades this late in the year or in this
late in the process with a receiver, usually with a

(01:53:07):
high impact because usually that is a guy that needs
a lot of rapport with the quarterback, So you just
don't see, you know, sometimes you'll see.

Speaker 5 (01:53:14):
Like a backup quarterback get traded. I think we saw.

Speaker 6 (01:53:18):
I forget, the Jets traded one of their backups right
before the season started a few years ago when they
had like four different quarterbacks and they traded one and
they got back a draft pick for one. So you'll
see that sometimes with a backup quarterback, but usually with
a starting skill position player, you need reps with the
quarterback to kind of get ready for the season, so
it's rare you see that happen this late.

Speaker 5 (01:53:37):
I think it happens.

Speaker 6 (01:53:38):
I don't know how it works out. I mean, I
love Adam feeling as a player. I don't know what
he has left in the tank, but interesting stuff there
for sure, you.

Speaker 3 (01:53:44):
Know, yeah, big time. And last one to mention real
fast is again not a blockbuster trade. But how about
the Eagles. They trade for a wide receiver John Metchi
and the Texans get a tight end Harrison Bryant. But
you mentioned this last week when rich was forsaking us,
you know, just you and me, Jaredy, Like AJ Brown's

(01:54:06):
got this hamstring issue, right, and then they trade for
a wide receiver. Pretty interesting stuff if you look at
the big picture, I agree.

Speaker 4 (01:54:14):
Yeah, yeah it look again, it to me sounds like
a lot of teams scrambling to shore things up heading
into the season. And either these are short term band
aids or these are going to be in the case
of feeling, in my opinion, like season long fixes for
something they feel like they're they're missing coming out of preseason.

(01:54:36):
A team, a roster is always a puzzle, and good
coaches and good general managers front offices are never done
trying to assemble that puzzle. And so yeah, even look,
even when you're trading for draft capital, if you have
the the player capital to do that, it's fine as
long as it doesn't affect your immediate short term success.

Speaker 5 (01:54:59):
I think, think the Eagles offense.

Speaker 6 (01:55:01):
Here's my hot take. Ready, here's your hot take. Eight
forty two am Pacific time on August twenty third. Here's
your NFL hot take. Eagles offense really struggles to start
the year. Okay, issues with the Eagles offense. AJ Brown's
banged up. You lose your offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. He
is now the head coach in New Orleans. You promote
from within Kevin Petulo. The last time that happened was

(01:55:25):
Brian Johnson, which was a disaster. We know Jalen Hurts
and Nick Sirianni don't always see eye to eye. That's
why Kellen Moore was the buffer for them. Shane Steiken
was the buffer for them, and it worked out really well.
It didn't work out when they didn't have a buffer.
But now it's Petulo, who's a Sirianni guy, into that role.
They bring in Scott Loffler from Bowling Green, the head
coach of Bowling Greens now the quarterback coach of the Eagles.

(01:55:47):
Very unique, probably one of the most unique hires in
the entire NFL offseason. How does that dynamic workout. Laffler
has more experience than Petulo. He's like ten years older
and he's coached a lot of good quarterbacks. Brady Tebow.

Speaker 5 (01:56:00):
I think, think the offensive room for the Eagles.

Speaker 6 (01:56:03):
It might work out, it might be a cluster, it
could be an absolute dumpster fire if they don't see
eye to on.

Speaker 3 (01:56:09):
Interesting and you know, think about this too. Building off
your point is you look at Saquon Barkley and his
season rushing yards. So again, he went over two thousand
yards last season, unbelievable electric, but this season fourteen hundred
and a half under right, I think under as well.

(01:56:29):
And think about that. It's over six hundred yards of
a dip. That's a lot, and it's juiced slightly to
the under minus one twenty. Take that for what it's worth.
But yeah, man to have over four hundred touches in
an NFL season. Steve Mariucci, he said on NFL Network
a long time ago, he was like, He's like, what's

(01:56:51):
a carry? A carry is a bruise. You know that's
what it is as an NFL. Right, A lot of
bruises last season. So we'll see what Saquon for an
encore all right, We've got Rich Ordenberger, Penn State All American,
Jared Smith FSR betting analyst. I'm probably a no. If

got some picks to make.

Speaker 5 (01:58:43):
Let's do it.

Speaker 3 (01:58:47):
Rapid fire, all right, Jared. The conclusion of rapid Fire
for this section like mostly the football offseason. Now, yeah,
technically it is week zero, but such a soft lawn,
we don't even count this as part of the football
season as far as rapid Fire goes. So this puts
a close to the mostly offseason football picks. And you'll

(01:59:09):
be the winner here, Jared. So will you just add
to your win total or not? We'll find out what
do you like?

Speaker 2 (01:59:14):
I hope.

Speaker 6 (01:59:14):
So it has been a good offseason, but that doesn't
matter because now we're in ball season. I will give
you three football picks today. Let's start the preseason of
the NFL. How about this the Browns minus nine and
a half against the Rams. Why are the Rams flying
to Cleveland for a one o'clock Eastern preseason game right
before the regular season starts. Mind boggling to me. Mcmay
never plays the starters in the preseason, not going to
play the starters today. Might not even play the backups today,

(01:59:35):
might be third stringers, while the Browns are playing their
starters today for about twenty five to thirty plays. So
I'll take Cleveland minus nine and a half against the Rams.
We'll lay it with UNLV minus thirty and a half
against Iowa State.

Speaker 2 (01:59:46):
Big move on the spread.

Speaker 6 (01:59:47):
I think Dan Mullen wants to make a statement in
his first game here in Vegas. I don't love the
quarterback situation for UNLV. I do love the running back
situation Jaydon Thomas, he's on the Dope Walker watch list.

Speaker 5 (01:59:57):
I think UNOV wins.

Speaker 6 (01:59:58):
Big, and I'll take four two points Fresno State plus
fourteen today against Kansas the Jayhawks return Jalen Daniels.

Speaker 5 (02:00:04):
Everyone else is gone, the OC gone.

Speaker 6 (02:00:06):
DC retired eight new starters on offense and nine new
starters on defense.

Speaker 5 (02:00:11):
We'll go Fresno State plus fourteen.

Speaker 2 (02:00:14):
Okay, here we go. Give me Hawaii with the lead
at the half.

Speaker 4 (02:00:17):
They're favored by a half point in the first half
versus Stanford on the Island. I think that Stanford lurches
out the gate. They may win it, but I think
Hawaii has the lead at intermission. Give me Idah host State.
We're on opposing ends of this way and a half.

Speaker 2 (02:00:32):
I'm taking the dog.

Speaker 4 (02:00:33):
I'm gonna be taking a lot of FCS dogs early
in the season. I think Mullen's gonna call off his
dogs earlier in this matchup. I don't think they necessarily
need to win big. I was State versus k State.
Give me the first half under twenty five and a half. Okay,
I'll go fast.

Speaker 2 (02:00:51):
I have no just go.

Speaker 3 (02:00:54):
Let's start off with the wnba I football that give
me Chelsea Gray over five and a half assists. She'll
she'll get there.

Speaker 2 (02:01:03):
You know they'll do work.

Speaker 3 (02:01:04):
Give me the Brewers, I got it. I wad give
me the Brewers minus one forty five to beat the Giants.
Give me Avery Johnson under twoh eight and a half
