Yeah, so I was thinking about this. You have Clemson
winning the national Championship and I have South Carolina in
the College Football Playoff. We need to stay out of
the state of South Carolina as a whole. Look, it was,
but a lot of people had them pick that deep.
I almost picked him and win the championship too. We're

gonna talk plenty of about Clemson. So I'm gonna still
let you take that lap about Indiana because it just
seems like people thought that was a one year and
done and then Signetti is eventually gonna go somewhere else
kind of deal, and it just it's just not that way.

Yeah, when you factor in small school college Stanford, Michigan,
it's forty hours whatever. Let me ask you this, this
might sound crazy. Is Kurt Signetti the best coach of
college football? I'm just gonna I'll lay out some stats
for you. He took over the worst team in the
Big Ten fifteen and two and seventeen games, fourteen double

figure wins. The only losses that he had at any point,
the only losses that he has had at any point
as Indiana's head coach, were to the two teams that
played for a national championship last year, Indiana and Indiana
and Ohio State or Ohio State and Notre Dame. Excuse me,

we don't have to stay on this for too long
because there's a lot to get to. I think you
can make the argument. That's all I want to say.

Yeah, I mean I definitely understand that, because well, I
think he's a really good football coach. I just don't know,
because we know what he has proven so far. But
I'd like to see what he did at a bigger school.
I'd kind of like to see what that might look like.
I mean, that's an argument you could make at different

times for I guess to a lesser degree, but for
a couple of years there, Mark Stoops is one of
the best coaches in college football because he's doing this
at Kentucky and no one's ever been able to do
it at Kentucky. I mean, what did James Franklin do
at Vanderbilt that then led him to Penn State. So
I mean there have been some instances we've seen of this,
and you talk about Harrball. You mentioned that and what

he did at Stanford obviously paving the way for a
lot of what would come later. I don't know where
Signetti falls but I definitely don't think he falls very
far from the top. I don't think it's a I
think the better thing is this. I don't think it's
ridiculous of you to throw that out there, Like, I
don't think you're just throwing that out there for the

equivalent of clicks on radio. You're not just trying to
stir the pot. There's actually some rationality behind that.

Yeah, And of course the simple argument would be, Okay,
you know, doesn't have a national championship, doesn't have whatever,
but he also doesn't have the talent that Ryan Day
and Dan Lenning. And this isn't like a bash Ryan
Day thing or a bash Dan Lenny thing. It's just
a given what he has, given what's available to him.
It's all pretty impressive. I'll tell you who's not the

next week and with a schedule that doesn't get any easier.
We saw two coaches get fired last weekend. I don't
think it's hyperbole to say that this might be the
last game of the Billion Napier ten you're at Florida.

Yeah, I mean it certainly might be. I mean, what
exactly are you accomplishing now? Everybody knows he's not going
to stay yep, and it can't get worse. I mean,
everything's fallen completely apart. And here's the other thing. I
heard Andy Staples and various people say this over the
past week or so, and I think this is right.
One of the big reasons you bring Billy Napier back
not because of how they ended last year, but really

the biggest reason is because you wanted to keep DJ
Lagway because they were kind of a package deal. Well now,
I think if you asked Florida fans, a lot of
them would say, yeah, he can go to m M
and Lagway had all that, you know, yeah, and look
deservedly so, based on what we had seen that limited
stuff last year, and he has all these and you

see flashes of it, but it's certainly not a complete product.
And so there's not really any reason for that package
deal to exist. Now. Neither one of them is what
Florida fans thought it was going to be. And now
the kind of safety blanket that Billy Napier had in
DJ Lagway is no longer a safety blanket at all,

And so there's really nothing tethering the fan base to
anything happening with the current regime whatsoever. So I think
you're probably right. I could see Napier being gone tomorrow
during the early window of NFL games.

Yeah, Florida, Miami is taking a knee. Florida loses this

You know, I guess if there's positives, Billy, excuse me.
DJ Lagway had no interceptions today. He did only, unfortunately,

That's really insane. You know, I'll say this too. So,
first of all, I think that point that you brought
up one hundred percent right. For people who don't know
the background. DJ Lagway was the Gatorade National Player of
the Year coming out of high school two years ago.
You know, it's kind of funny, jam mart I had
kind of forgotten this, but you know, you just kind
of read articles throughout the week and whatever is that.
You know, by the way, Florida trying to start a

fight at midfield. Of course, remember they're they're running backs.
Coach is suspended for this game for pushing LSU's players
last week. Of course, they had a player thrown out
of the game two weeks ago against USF for spitting.
So good to see that, you know these uh, you
know that that these these things are not changing at
all at Florida. But you know, I'd kind of forgotten

that two seasons ago, billion Apier, coming off of his
second year at Florida, was the first coach in like
fifty years or something to have back to back losing seasons.

And in a lot of.

Ways, Lagway saved his job at that time because you
could sell the hope of what happens when he gets
there blah blah blah blah blah.

Right, yeah, And.

I bring it up because last year, to his credit,
you know, this is Wway we're talking about, he was
pretty good. They win those games down the stretch, four
straight games to win to end the regular season, and
the ball game, and I think, you know, the point
you brought up is so poignant, right, is like I
think in this era, you know, we have this notion
of you know, if you fire the coach, you might

you might lose everybody. And I think a year ago
at Florida you could absolutely sell Hey, it's worth running
it back, give it a year, younger team, whatever. But
they're now one in three. The offense is just an abomination.
I think the important point too, schedule gets no easier.
Among the games they still have. The next time they

take the field will be Texas at home, at Texas
A and m down the road. They have Georgia on
a neutral, they have Florida State at home, they have
Tennessee at home, and oh, by the way, old miss
on the road as well. So doesn't get any easier.
You know, it's the cliche thing to say, but it's
the truth. I don't for anybody to lose their job.
I just think we have to be realistic. And I

think to your point too, a couple of things I
know I'm rambling. I'll be quick and toss it back
to you. One. Like you said, we know it's going
to happen. We know there's a big buyout attached but
guess what, whether you pay the buyout now or on
November twentieth, it doesn't matter. That buyout is still getting paid.
And then, of course I think there's the other scenario
once again of if you let him stay, you know,

can he do enough to then justify maybe justifying him
keeping the job. I don't know what is going to happen.
I think what should happen is your cut bait right
away and make the move tomorrow morning.

Yeah, and I don't know that it's suing him any
favors to leave him there either. It's not gonna get
any better, and I can't imagine he's having a particularly
good time. I know you want to leave with dignity,
but I think dignity has already walked out the door.
I mean, I don't know that he's He's not done
anything disgraceful. I don't mean it that way, but just
in terms of being able to walk out with your
head held high, leaving the place better and you found

it and all that kind of stuff, No, it's just
not going to happen. It just didn't work. Doesn't mean
billiy Napier is not a decent football coach. Just means
that didn't work at Florida. He wasn't ready for or
what they needed in that job, and they're gonna have
to go in a different direction. And I don't know
what that looks like for the rest of this season,
but I think the question then needs to be asked,

how good is the Florida job going into next year? Well,
if you look at what you are replacing, you have
the opportunity to build a behemoth, and you have, you know,
you have great success around you with the basketball program
and a lot of things that are happening in the university.
So I don't know that it's a horrible situation. The
only other problem is you've also had upheaval on the

(12:34):
other side with academics. You had Ben Sas the former
senator from Nebraska resigning as president of the university. You
had a lot of different things that were happening on
that side as well. So there's been upheaval in leadership
left and right there. So I think there's I think
there it's kind of in flux, but I still think
it would be a pretty appealing job, and you probably

(12:58):
end up with a pretty solid name there. And you
look at kind of the last three four regimes. It's
not like you're coming in and replacing something special. You're
coming in to try and rebuild something special. I'm not
saying this is how it will go, but it's very
similar to man between Gene Stallings and Nick Saban, there
was a whole lot of nothing. Sure at Alabama. You

had Francioni, and you had Shula, and you had Riley.
You had all these things that went wrong, and then
Saban was able to come in and not just pick
up those pieces. He was able to rebuild that entire house.
And you kind of have that because it's been a
long time since urban Meyer was the head coach at Florida.
You've had a lot of names that haven't amounted to
very much at all. So I think that that becomes

appetizing for a coach that wants to challenge knowing what
that place looks like when it's right.

Yeah, you know, I think there's a lot of talk
about all sorts of things. That is still a great
job in obviously a great conference, and I you know,
it's bad. It doesn't have to be this though. It
just doesn't have to be as bad. Yeah, But Florida
falls to one and three on the season. They go

into their by Oh, by the way, it gets much
easier from here, Texas, followed by at Texas, A and
M their first two games off of the by Fox

lot of teams at the top of the league, so
it's hard to say, you know, what the pecking order
is going to be when it's all said and done.
But listen, I mean, if they're you know, nine to
two going into the final weekend playing for a playoff spot.

It sounds crazy, but they're going to improve to four
and oh tonight. They obviously destroyed South Carolina last weekend,
and Vandy commodor Is are about to improve to four
and oh two weeks from now. Oh, the revenge game
at Bama, So that would be an interesting one at
Bama two weeks from now. All right, let's get into

the rest of a busy, busy, busy Saturday in the
world of college football. And I think you can argue,
I would say, and this might not be right, but
I think it is the most consequential result of the day,
Clemson losing at home to Syracuse thirty four to twenty one. Now,

(19:26):
I don't think it's consequential from the situation of you know,
what does it mean for the playoff pit It's like
we talked about this last week. I kind of I
think we both kind of felt like Clemson kind of
probably has to win out from here. But I bring
it up because with the loss, Clemson falls to one
in three overall this season. And you know, I think

(19:46):
most people kind of had this on early and then
it went to the rain delay. But we all know
there was never really a time in that game where
you felt like Clemson was in it. Like, you know,
I was flipping channels and I happened to just so
flip in right into the start of the fourth quarter.
And going into that fourth quarter, Clemson was trailing thirty

(20:07):
four to twenty four, and you know, Dabo was about
as defeated as you know. Basically they asked him what
he asked what he wanted to see in the fourth quarter.
He's like, I just want you know, I just want
to fight, and you know, let's just try to get
back in this game.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
And he looked defeated. The program feels defeated.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
And this obviously comes in a week in which, of course,
you know, pretty combative with the media from the perspective
of you know, if you guys think that there's somebody
better out there, you know, you can do whatever. I'm
fifty five, I'm not done coaching. You take it where
you want, Jmark, you take it where you want. But
it's it's a really bad deal right now. One in

three overall for a team that listen, you know, we
joked about a little bit earlier in the show, but
I did have.

But I think even the most pessimistic person said, that's
probably the ACC favorite, probably going to be in the playoff.
Conversation one in three and would essentially have to win
out hope to get to the ACC Championship game and
then from there win it to get back to the playoff.

So after the opener, we had all talked, like before
the opener was played, when we were looking at what
season kind of foretold for Clemson, we just said, man,
they could easily be undefeated going into the College Football
Playoff because the schedule's not that hard. Yes, they're gonna
have to get through South Carolina, there's a couple of

there's a couple of games there, but nothing that you
should feel particularly terrified about. Right, dude, they're one in
three and they have yet to look good in any
of those games. Like they easily could have lost to Troy,
and then Troy went and got what crushed by Memphis
the next week.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
Hey, line, if I said I had a reason to
really follow what Troy's been doing since they went to Clemson,
you know.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
Oh well, I mean I just saw it come by
on a ticker or something like that. It wasn't like
I was watching the game, But I mean this is
just flat out terrible. This is as low as it's
been there, And it was they had all kinds of talent, right,
and then they had k klub Nick, who really looked
good last year. You felt good about who you had
at quarterback, You felt good about the depth on that team.

(22:15):
You felt like a defense is going to be able
to step up. None of those things have happened. They've
looked disorganized. But the biggest I will even just cut
myself off and say this, the offense is unwatchable. Yep.
The offense is I don't know, It's like a gruesome
horror film. It's like Saw. It's like a film you

have to look away from, like you know what's happening
if you're watching Saw, but you can't continually keep your
eye on the screen, like eventually you're going to have
to turn off there. Except the difference here is the
reason why your eyes have gone off the screen is
because they've closed, because they've fallen asleep. Because this is
the most just nothing happening, boring, dull, completely ineffective offense

that you've ever seen. It's just unbelievable how bad it is.

Yeah, it is, And you know I would also say
this too, is speaking of how awful it is. Producer
Ian sent us a quote from kid Clubnick. We don't
have to play the sound. We don't even have it
in the system. But you know, kid Clubnick seemed to
insinuate after the game that he felt like that basically

Syracuse was maybe faking injuries to slow down the offense.
I said, the only injury going on right now is
my head that I was bashing against the wall.

Wash. They don't have to do.

It just feels like, dude, that's been there, it's it's
getting worse. It's not rock bottom, but it's not the
standard that you've set. I think the other thing too
with Dabo is he changed the offensive coordinator a few
years ago, he changed the defensive coordinator this past offseason.
You know, he took a couple transfers and not a ton,

but a few, and it's just like it's not working.
And I again, I don't think it will happen. I
don't even know what jobs could hypothetically become available which
would be on par with Clemson. I just feel like
it's run its course and it's time for him to
be somewhere else. I don't think it's gonna happen, But
this feels like cal Perry Kentucky, where it's just like

it's over. It's never. Listen, I know, you never say never.
It's never getting back to the way it was. If
you can't do it this year with Kate Club, Nick,
thirty year starter, a couple guys on defense that everybody
claims are gonna be first round picks, it's never going
to happen. And it just feels to me like I
think a fresh start would be good for everybody, even
if I don't realistically think it's gonna happen.

So you compared him to Cal Perry, I'm gonna compare
him to somebody else. Okay, it's Mike Gundhy.

I feel like college football the way that it is progressing, yep.
Just the stubbornness and the way Dabo has been and
I know they kind of treated it differently this year,
but he's being dragged, kicking and screaming into this new generation.
I don't think he wants this. I don't think he's
made for what college football has become. The way that

this sport has changed, the way that business is done,
the way that the players now have a lot more leverage,
a lot more power, and from year to year, your
roster turns over in a way that it just simply
did not use to do. I mean gundhy On. I
had somebody text me on Friday night and just asking
about Mike Gundy. It's just like, did you ever think

it was going to get this bad? It's not necessarily,
but I mean, clearly he's almost done. And I just
look at Dablin. I'm just like, I feel I don't
feel like that fire to coach is the same. Like
when I looked at Cal. I never thought Cal didn't
want to coach basketball. I know what Dabo is saying,
but I look at that and I just seem I

feel like he's saying that because he doesn't know what
else to do. But this brand of college sports, see,
Cal could change. Cal could go somewhere else because Cal
was already used to one and done. Cal was already
used to a different way to recruit. He was used
to a different brand. He was kind of the one
that ushered it in Dabo's the one that didn't want
it to change. Dabo's the one that was resistant to

it in State stubborn. No matter what. So if he
goes somewhere else, it's still going to be the same
reality for him, because college football has become something different,
and I think it's something that's just not for Dabos twenty.
So I actually think it's closer to a Mike gundyish
situation than it is a coach cal situation.

It's a great analogy, and there is something to just
this sport has changed so much. And I think even
you know, even the guys who have struggled, Lincoln Riley
struggled for sure, Brett Vennable struggled for sure early on.

But it feels like to your point, they at least
acknowledge where the sport is and they are doing things
behind the scenes. I don't mean to nerd out, but
it's like Venables, I mean, how many times listen, how
many times do we have to hear that John Mattier
and Ben Rbuckle came together to Oklahoma from Washington State, right,
Venables looked around and said, whatever I have to do

to get this thing fixed, I'm going to you know,
they hired player personnel people, whatever. And so I just
bring it up because I think that's actually a great point,
is that I just think this sport is changing so fast.
And listen, it's a cliche, but it's true. The role
of a head coach is changing so fast. But even
just the infrastructure that you have to have to be successful.

You know, I don't know where they are. And I
think Gundhy is a great example of another guy who
it's just you know, the game of football has not
necessarily passed them by, but the way of doing things has.
And I'm kind of with you is I just look at,
you know, all these guys that we've lost from college
sports over the last couple of years, whether it be

Nick Saban on the basketball side, coach kJ right, we
know all the names, Tony Bennett, et cetera. It's like,
at one point they just looked themselves in the mirror
and said, this thing is going so far in another direction,
and there's somebody that can do this better going forward.
And I think that's a conversation that certainly my Gundy

has to have. And I think Dabbo again, I think,
given the team that he has this year, probably has
to do the same.

Well, guys, we've got two items to pass along, one
from Oklahoma and one from Vanderbilt. Oklahoma came back for
a narrow win against Auburn twenty four to seventeen.

Officiating has issued a statement tonight that there was an
Oklahoma touchdown pass in the second quarter that should not
have been. There was a completion to their leading receiver
number five in the first quarter on the first down
player on the first down play second quarter and after
the play, he goes toward his own team's sideline, but

stop just short before reaching the Oklahoma sideline, and SEC
officiating says, according to the rule, there's no simulated substitution
to be used to confuse the opponent. After the first
down play went back toward his sideline, but did not
leave the game. He stayed in and caught a touchdown
pass on second down. The Conference says the officiating crew

did not properly interpret the action as a hideout tactic.
If it was properly officiated, that second down play should
have resulted in an Oklahoma unsportsmanlike conduct penalty of fifteen yards.
