Monse Bolaños and Steve Hartman (in for Martin Weiss) open the show reacting to the biggest college football upset of the season as UCLA took down Penn State! Could this be what finally costs James Franklin his job? They also weigh in on the rest of Saturday's slate of games, discussing whether it may be time to bench Arch Manning, discussing Alabama's hard-fought win over Vanderbilt, and reacting in real time to Miami vs. Florida State.

Later, Monse and Steve move over to some NFL talk, setting the stage for Week 5's matchups and reacting to TNF... Is Mac Jones just as good as Brock Purdy? Is our confidence in the Chiefs restored? Is the AFC North the Steelers' division to lose at this point? Plus, more fun with new editions of "What's That Sound?" and "Buy or Sell"!

It was a team of destiny at the time, it
really was, and somehow we got derailed because we owned

and I was just trying to hang on for dear life.
But I'm so excited about you and Martin having this

(00:35):

Here's the thing when you when you get married, all
of a sudden you have to go to weddings a lot, right.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
Now, you have to do things, You have to do
things with your wife correct and then you start hanging
out with married people and everything else.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
We are what a day, so much going on, Steve.
We've got football, We've got baseball. We've got to talk
about the NFL and what is happening there. But I'm
not gonna lie to you. Watching the Bruins go out
and deliver this win, deliver this upset over Penn State,
I was just please let them win so that Steve

(02:05):
and I could start the show.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
And he'll be in a great mood for the rest
of the day. And they held on. It got a
little scary for a hot second a little bit.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
You thought the Nitsny Lions were gonna come back. Understandably
so because you CLA. What's the word I'm looking for. Disastrous, nauseous,
not good. That has been their season. Well, let's try
to put perspective on this.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
You can argue that this is one of the biggest
upsets we have seen between two major schools in the
last twenty years. Oh, absolutely to put things in perspective
going into this game. As you know, UCLA fired to
Sean Foster a couple of weeks ago. Last week, they

(02:53):
came back in the second half but came up short
on the road against Northwestern, who is a notoriously bad
team in the Big Ten. Youla came into this game
today against Penn State last in the Big Ten in
offense and defense. There were their sixteen schools in the conference,
last in both offense and defense. Their offensive coordinator was

(03:16):
let go this week. They'd already lost their defensive coordinator.
Other assistant coaches are out the door. There was nobody there,
nobody there, and of course.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
The coach, Skipper love that name by the way, had
to figure out getting ready to play Penn State, which
was a preseason number two pick in the poll. Three
years started quarterback. Everything was seen to be a line
for Penn State, especially coming off a tough loss against Oregon,
you know they wanted to bounce back in a big way.

(03:47):
There was nothing to indicate that this was going to
be anything other than a huge, dominant Penn State victory.
Penn State was supposed to feast today.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Oh, they were supposed to, like you said, bounce back
from that loss last week to Oregon and absolutely feast.
There was no reason anyone would have thought the Bruins
can pull this upset off. As you just said earlier
in the week, they promoted Jerry Neuheisel as the offensive
coordinator and to be the play caller, and he unlocks

(04:19):
something today that we had not seen all season from
the Bruins.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
In the first half.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
They held Penn State in the first half of this
game to a total of ninety two yards.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Right, that is all they were able to do.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
And even in the second half, Penn State made some
attempts they cut the deficit, but both teams were stuffed
on fourth and one late in the fourth quarter, and
then UCLA figures it out. Is it Jerry Newheisl, Is
it just a team that has nothing to proven. At
the same time, nothing to lose is always a dangerous team.

(04:53):
What was it, Niko Yamaliava from top to bottom carried
that team.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
All right, So you CLA goes into this game twenty
five and a half point underdogs, and even I guarantee
you there's a lot of people listening out there that
laid those numbers. They're like twenty five and a half.
This should be like a forty point. I mean, you
see a leg got blown out at home by New Mexico.
They only started ten points in that game on their

(05:18):
home field. So I know there were a lot of
people that thought twenty five and a half to the gift.
I'll take it. Give them the twenty five and a
half points. You know, Penn stated will win this game,
you know, forty nine to ten something like that. So
when we talk about Jerry Neuhiss, you really have to
talk about his father first, right, all starts. So I

(05:39):
have known Rick Neuheisel on a personal basis since nineteen
seventy nine. And let me tell you an interesting story.
So I had become the sports editor of the Daily Bruin,
and I am meeting with head coach Terry don Hue,
the late great Terry Donahue, before the season, and we're
going over some of the rosters, and they had just
recruited two big time high school recruit quarterbacks, Jay Schrader

(06:02):
we all know. Jay, of course later became the Redskins,
and then with the Raiders quarterback, and then another quarterback
named Tom Ramsey who also ended up playing in the NFL.
So I'm asking him. I said they had a and
I said, oh, there's another guy here on the I
see a name here. I don't have to pronounce this
knew any And he says, oh, no, no, you don't

(06:24):
have to worry about him. I go wise that he goes.
He was trying to get here as a walk on,
but he ended up going to an Ivy League school.
The reason I tell that story is we told that
when we were honoring Rick new Heisl. When he came
to UCLA, Terry Donahue, he didn't know that new Heisel
had not left. He actually was on his roster, and
the head coach didn't even know would know. He didn't

(06:46):
even know. Now, eventually, his last year at UCLA, finally
got an opportunity to be a starting quarterback and he
became a Rose Bowl MVP. He had a cup of
coffee in the NFL By the way, it's always said this,
he's the winniest quarterback in Chargers history. The replacement games
in nineteen eighty seven, you needed a quarterback, he won
all three games. So the first time I met his son, Jerry,

(07:10):
I think he was like four. I was visiting a
Rick up in Seattle when he was in the coach
at the University of Washington. He has three little toe
head sons. One of them was Jerry, and so I've
known the new Heisls forever. So when you see the
emotion of Rick Neuheisel, it's a real thing. He's a
super guy. He's a super dad. And you can't I mean,

(07:31):
if you have kids, you know what it's like. Forget.
He apologized to everybody watch, I'm sorry, you know, and
everyone understood. I mean, this is a dad thing. And
your son was thrown into a situation, impossible, impossible situation
given the playbook on Tuesday, make things work. Oh yeah,
and you're taking on Penn State and they put up

(07:51):
forty two points and he got carried off the field
after the game by the assiliate player. Unbelievable day.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
When I was in I got an opportunity and I
covered a little bit of Bruins football for online content.

Speaker 6 (08:05):
Right.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
I was there the year Jimora was there and Jerry
Newheisch was a red shirt for a red shirt freshman,
and anytime I did a couple of interviews with him
as UCLA was getting going, he was always so kind
and always just wanted what's best for the team, even
if it didn't.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Come with him being the star. It had to do
with the team.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
And when I heard that he had gone immediately into coaching,
I was like, of course he did, because I saw
that as a red shirt freshman, how much he cared
about the x's and the o's and not necessarily about
being star on the t.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
And by the way, his dad did the exact same thing.
I could see it.

Speaker 7 (08:39):
It was.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
It was incredible and always so kind. It was always
a pleasant, a pleasant time talking to him, and so
seeing this, it just was like, look at you go, dude,
this was always your This was always a plan for you.
You know, some people are destined to do things, and
I think his destiny was to unlock this offense for
the Bruins.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Well, first of all, a lot of people get that
Nico Imalava led Tennessee to the playoffs a year ago,
and then you see this guy seemingly confused. Now, he
wasn't getting a lot of help, a lot of drop passes,
there was a lot of things happening against him. But
you could see the kind of athlete he is if
they would just figure out a system that works for

(09:18):
the guy. And it worked today. I mean, he ran
for three touchdowns, over hundred yards rushing, passed for a
couple of touchdowns, three hundred plus yards of total offense,
and he looked like the quarterback that led Tennessee into
the playoffs a year ago and the quarterback that everyone
thought was coming to UCLA. And again, I have no

(09:39):
idea what they were doing prior to this, because Nico
is a talent. He's got size, he's got speed, he's
got smarts, he's got he is the total package. But
you still have to put him in a system that
works for him. And I guarantee you that Jerry Neuheisel
looked at the situation and said, I'm I'm not saying

(10:00):
dumb it down, but let's get back to basics, right,
Let's get him into the game. I thought the key
to this entire game was after that opening drive, uclad
not scored in the first quarter this year of any game,
nor had they led any game this year. So when
they got up seven to nothing the on side, I
couldn't believe that perfectly done. Where they had guys lined

(10:21):
up go inside. Penn State guys followed, except one guy
stayed by himself and it was an easy recovery. You
say he didn't get a touch. Then they got a
field goal, but that just got the team into the game.
We have nothing to lose, let's go for it, and
they end up with a stunning victory today.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
If you went to the restroom, if you went to
refill your drink and you missed that onside kick, it
that's what I did. I went to get more water,
and I said, did Penn State fumble? How did they
get the ball back?

Speaker 2 (10:49):
I'm so confused. They went for an onside kick. The
game just started perfect.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
They just scored, unexpected, per unexpected and successful.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
By the way, I'm gonna you know, I like to
go back in history. The only time I ever saw
anything like this in UCLA history. I didn't actually see this,
but I was a little kid. Nineteen sixty six Rose Bowl,
Ucla a big underdog against the number one team in
the country, Michigan State, and UCLA scores first, so they
get up seven to nothing. Just like this game, they

(11:20):
on side and they got the ball back and scored again.
They went up fourteen nothing. They held on to be
number one Michigan State fourteen to twelve. It was a
huge victory for uc one of the biggest upsets in
Rose Bowl history. But knowing history as I do, that's
what it reminded me of. And it was a brilliant call.
You have nothing to lose, nothing to go for it,

(11:43):
and that's exactly what they did.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
It was on real But even though here we are
praising Jerry Neuheisel and Uclely and the Bruins and Nigoy
Maliavo on what they did, the big the other big
side of this is James Franklin in Penn State. We
at this point you have to assume that Penn State

(12:05):
cannot lose any more games.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
Well, I think they are already out of it. They're
only two in the Big Tens. They already have two
conference losses. Sowsuits, Well, they would have to run the table.
But his two losses in conference going to get you
in the Big ten championship game, and so that that's
the big question. Look, we said it after they lost
to Oregon. The James Franklin numbers speak for themselves. After

(12:29):
that Oregon loss, he is now one in eighteen in
games against Big Ten opponents ranked in the top ten.
One and eighteen. I mean, how do you keep your
job at a school that has the legacy of Penn State.
I've said this before, I'm going to say it again.
And we have a lot of Penn State people here
clarding our dear friend, Rich Ornberger. This is the curse

(12:52):
of Joe Paul. You know, they've tried to erase Joe
Paterno like he never existed at Penn State. And the
ghost of Joe Paul is no, no, no, no, no, no,
You're gonna remember me. You know you did me wrong
because you blame me for the Zandusky situation. Maybe I
turned a blind eye to it, but for me to
be the easy fall guy because I died was not fair.

(13:14):
Tearing down basically forty plus years he literally put that
university on the map. And you know, and James Franklin
will not even utter Joe Paterno's name. He's been asked
about Joe Paterno, he will not say his name, so
you know anyone else with that kind of track record.
Is James Franklin losing to UCLA? I don't know how

(13:38):
it is. There is no spirits, this is this is
not a good coach. He's not an elite coach. Let's
put it that way. He gets some elite athletes because
it is Benn State. But when you consistently lose games
that you're you have a chance to take it to
the next level, you lose them all, but then to
lose to a winless UCLA team that was last the

(14:00):
conference in offense and defense. There can't be a single
Penn State person fan the things that James Franklin should
keep his job right now, and.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
I think we'll find out soon what Penn State decides
to do. Obviously, Penn State far from perfect, UCLA far
from perfect.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
But in the NFL, there is a.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
Team, Steve, that is so close to being perfect, and
it doesn't seem like everyone's happy about that.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
We're gonna dive into.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
Why are you unhappy You're pretty closely on a perfect team.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
We'll dive into that.

Speaker 3 (14:32):

Speaker 3 (15:35):
Reunited, re United, Marion Weiss will be back, don't you worry?
Is just as Steve said in the first segment, when
you get married, that's kind of like a second job.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Oh and so, and let her be your first job
to be honest with you.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
He's got responsibilities now as a married man where he
has to make appearances to other weddings.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Now, yes, apparently so so I remember that that phase
right after getting married. It just seemed like wedding after
wedding after wedding. Yes, it really. He gets to that,
but we didn't know anybody. We're still there, still there. Yeah,
of course, looking for available married couples to attend weddings.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
So that's what Martin Weiss is up to this week.
He will be back, don't you worry, Steve. Week five
of the NFL.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
We've got two teams that are still undefeated, got the
Bills and the Eagles. Is that what you were expecting
at this point? Well, I mean, those are my teams
playing each other in the Super Bowl. That's not great. Well,
you know, well a year ago I had case losing
to the Cowboys. All right. Look here here's what I
said about the Bills and the Eagles is I looked

(16:42):
at their divisions and thought, if you look at their
divisions going in, there's so many question marks. And I
know the commanders had this you know, miracle year a
year ago. I figured they'd take a little bit of
a step back, and because of the injury to jad
and Daniels, they've done just that. But we knew that
the Cowboys are going to be middle of the road
at best. Giants, even with their win over the Chargers

(17:03):
last week, are not a good team. And then same
thing with Buffalo. I mean, with Miami and with the
Jets and with New England. I just think they have
the easiest way or easiest path to be the number
one overall seed, really, and if you got to go
through Philadelphia or through Buffalo to get to the super Bowl,
that's going to be a tough task. On top of

(17:24):
the fact that obviously both of these are really good
football teams. So I'm not surprised at four and oh.
But when you talk about the Eagles, do you know
how easily they could be zero to four?

Speaker 3 (17:36):
Oh? Absolutely, I was gonna say two teams that are
four and oh but such different storyline, right, and you
have the Eagles looking like, okay, kind of like we
talked about the chief slash.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
Check exactly what I was gonna say. Exactly. The Chiefs
were like, we said the worst six and oh team,
We're seven. That's I mean the Eagles this year, they
beat the Cowboys at home by four. They had the
three point victory on the road against the Chiefs. The
Rams score was deceptive because of the block field goal
at the end, so they end up winning by seven.
That was a one point game that went back up.

(18:10):
And then they beat Tampa by six, and so they
all four of their wins are one score gains and
honestly a couple of breaks against them, and they could
be oh and four right now, they.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
Could be zero to four, and I don't know if
things could get better knowing that there's drama not really
behind closed door doors anymore. We saw AJ Brown on
X make a tweet that has since been deleted, saying,
if you're not welcomed, not listen to quietly withdraw, don't
make a scene, shrug your shoulders and be on your way. Well,

(18:42):
my guy, you are making a scene because now there's
a story with Diana Russini diving into what is happening
behind closed doors with the Eagles at AJ.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
Brown and also DeVante Smith seemed to be upset.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
With what they are doing, you know, offensively, because they
run the ball a lot run, run.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Run, So let's slow down there, because Saquon Barkley right
now has the lowest yards per carry average of any
back in the league. Right now, with a certain amount
of carries, he's barely averaging three yards of carry. He
bears no resemblance to the Saquon Barkley we saw last year.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
I know that sounds crazy, but I'm actually not super
surprised to that, because I think teams in the offseason
were like, okay, number one thing for the Eagles stop
Saquon Barkley.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
That's what everybody's goal was this offseason. As if he
doesn't look right. You don't think he looks right. You
think it's beyond that. Now, the guy that we saw
last year, I mean, I got news for you. Everyone
was trying to stop him last year and nobody could
stop him. He has two hundred and thirty seven yards
and four games, and he's averaging three point one yards
of carry and he hasn't had a run over sixteen
yards the entire year.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
So you're telling me he's also not doing that great offensively.
His numbers aren't that great. Is he complaining, No, he doesn't.
I haven't heard him complain.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
I haven't heard him go wide receivers, you know, No, No.

Speaker 3 (20:01):
I get the busy, AJ Brown, I get it. Fourteen
catches for one hundred and fifty one yards, that's all
he has.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
That's not what he wants.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
You could go back to the Titans and bo and
four A. J.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
Brown.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
I just don't understand. You just won the Super Bowl.
I'm having a hard time having sympathy when this is
a perfect opportunity for you because if teams start focusing
so much on the Eagles run game, as that's how
they've been so successful.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
AJ Brown, your time is gonna come. Your time is
gonna come, and you just need to be patient. All
right here, here's what's interesting about so DeVante Smith has
been targeted twenty times and he has seventeen catches. Go
to Is thirteen targets, twelve catches, Barkley sixteen targets, fourteen catches,
AJ Brown fourteen catches on twenty eight targets. Yeah, very low,

(20:49):
very low numbers. So percentage wise whatever, that connection is
not working right now for the Eagles. What's also amazing
is the Eagles are average as a team eight point
four yards a catch, so they're they're not being able
to stretch the field. Teams are stacking up like you
say against Saguon Barkley, So that there's a lot of

(21:11):
things that going on not working right now for that
Eagles offense.

Speaker 3 (21:15):
Not working, but they're four and all exactly, they're not working,
but they're That's the only thing that matters in the end.
And the thing is like with the Eagles with Jalen Hurts,
it's like if he needed to take them down throwing
the ball in the air, he did. He will get
them downfield. He doesn't have to do it every single time.
But it's like they're they're just doing what is being
asked upon them against every team.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
And I just don't get the attitude from aj Brown.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
And if I'm the Eagles, I'm like, Okay, we can
trade you, no problem. I'll send you somewhere where you
can get a bunch of yards and a bunch of touchdowns,
but your record might be zero and four prima donnas.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
That's what most of these wide receivers, not all of them,
but many, I will say most. And the problem as
a wide receiver is you got to have a quarterback
that can get you the ball. Now, Jalen Hurts is
certainly capable of that. What's the key Staff for Hurts
this year, and he's completing sixty nine percent of his passes,
so it's not like he's inaccurate. He hasn't thrown an

(22:10):
interception yet, he hasn't four games zero interceptions. That's how
the Eagles are winning close games right now because they're
taking care of the football. At least their quarterback is
taking care of the football right now. But ye look,
I remember when Randy Moss left the Vikings and went
to the Raiders. They didn't have a quarterback, and he
literally fell off the map. And then he goes to

(22:30):
New England and sets all kinds of records when Tom
Brady's throwing the ball. So as a wide receiver especially,
you've got an elite quarterback, which he does. I believe
Jalen Hurts is an elite quarterback. Shut your mouth because
you could go to a team that doesn't have an
elite quarterback and believe me, the thing about it is,
you're still relevant because you're on a team that's defending

(22:53):
Super Bowl champions. But if you go to another team
and get a bunch of catches on the team going nowhere,
you will be forgotten immediately.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
And we know that he and Jalen Hurts can't have
that connection because he has had almost fifteen hundred yards
twice last year over one thousand yards. They apparently were
really good friends, and Diana Russini in the story broke it.
But they're not really talking to each other right now.
But you know, life gets in the way. You got
the commitments and all that, but like they were very,

(23:20):
very close at one time, and it seems like they
are not close right now.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
As a wide receiver, you need to be a friend
of your quarterback.

Speaker 3 (23:27):
Of course you do it because again you never know.
You want that glory moment. That moment can come again,
that moment can still come.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
You look at the target at targets, he's been targeted
eight more times than any other receiver and yet he
has three less receptions than Devonte Smith. So there's got
to be a trust factor as a quarterback. When I
throw the ball to Devonte Smith, he catches it. When
I throw the ball to you this year, Aj Brown,
you're not.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
Or if I throw the ball to Dallas Goddard, he's
got it, got it in the red zone, in the
end zone.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
They're perfect.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
Did you know that that the Eagles this this season
so far are perfect when they get in the end zone,
when they get to the red zone.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
Yeah, so, I mean, these are the reasons why despite
the fact that the Eagles have him in great they're
still undefeated. They are still undefeated.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
AJ Brown, you can have your moment, it'll come, but
you're gonna ask to leave, and it's not you're not
gonna win.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
But do you think he cares about that? Do you
think he's like, I already want I already have a
Super Bowl. I just want my stats. I don't care.
It's crazy. Well that that would be a warning to
any team interested in having AJ Brown, because then you're
then you're bringing in a prima donna who is about
himself in a team sport. How is how are you

(24:42):
interpreting this any other way?

Speaker 1 (24:45):
You're not.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
Locker rooms in the NFL are very complicated. You got
more moving pieces, obviously in the NFL than you have
a Major League Baseball, than you have in the NHL
than you have in the NBA. You have a lot
of players and a lot of egos in that room,
and that's the challenge for coaches, Yeah, to try to
get everybody going in the same direction as best they can.

(25:07):
I'm sure Nick Sirianni is saying, are you really going
to go there a J.

Speaker 6 (25:11):
Brown?

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Because we have enough talent on this team. Live with
where you're expendable. I mean, Tyreek Hill was sort of
you know him and and Hawn in Kansas City and
thought he was untouchable. They traded into Miami and then
went back to back Super Bowls without him, without him,
without what everyone said, and arguably the most dangerous wide

(25:33):
receiver in the game at that time. And remember, put
up huge numbers in Miami didn't translate into Super Bowl wins,
but the Chief showed, yeah, we can survive without you.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
And the Eagles can definitely survive without the prima donna
that is AJ Brown. We cannot survive without the prima
donna that is Steve Desager over at the news desk.
I'm just getting Steve, you are not a Prima donna.
It's this Steve, that's the Prima Donna. Well, Steve Dizager, what.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
Is going on? Hello? Oh hey, there we go.

Speaker 9 (26:05):
You know Prima Donna at this point would make a
comment about the mic not being on.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
Well, we could see your mind at that moment.

Speaker 9 (26:14):
I know by the way I would add that it's
not just wide receivers sprinters in general. Our prima do
seeing plenty of olympe.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
You're about that.

Speaker 9 (26:25):
Let's update the baseball playoffs. As the Phillies were up
three nothing. It's now three to two over the Dodgers
in the bottom of the sixth inning. This is Game
one of the NL Division Series, best of five show
hey Otani's still on the mound. He's thrown near ninety
pitches five and two third innings. The crusher is what
we knew going in. The Dodgers outfield defense is horrendous.

(26:45):
This year. They took Mookie Betts, a gold Glover out
of right field, made them a short stop. This year
it has cost him a run. Tonight, they're down by one.
The Phillies got a two run triple instead of a
two run double by J. T. Rail Muto in the
second inning because because it got past the right fielder
no air charge, but past the right fielder Tao Hernandez,
and therefore, with Real Mudua at third base, he was

(27:08):
able to score on a sack fly, tacking on the
extra run. We're just finishing the sixth inning three to
two Phillies over La Christopher Sanchez five and two thirds
innings pitched for Philadelphia and eight strikeouts, but he left
after giving up a two run double. The keyk Hernandez
playoff hero yet again this postseason, and the Dodgers were

(27:30):
the best team in the Majors with two outs and
runners in scoring position this season. They come through in
that spot, but to the seventh Phillies three, Dodgers two
and just Starting on FS one, Tigers at Mariners to
start a best of five, Mariners all star pitcher Brian
who is still out for this series with a pectoral injury.
He went fifteen and seven. Game two of the series

(27:52):
in Seattle will be Sunday at eight pm Eastern time.
Top seed in the American League Toronto beat the Yankees.
It was two to one in the seventh inning, ten
to one on the final. Vladimir Guerrero Junior three hits,
including a first inning home run. And the day started
with the top overall seed Milwaukee beating the Cubs, or
should we say beating up the Cubs nine to three.
The final it was nine to one Brewers in the

(28:13):
second inning. Cubs wound up hitting three solo homers for
their three tallies. But the loss to Matthew Boyd. He
was out in the first inning. Milwaukee outfielder Jackson Curio
left with hamstring tightness. He was only in a couple innings,
still with three for three with three RBIs. As for
the college football can't say enough about what we witnessed
at the Rose Grald today. I'm still shocked UCLA at

(28:36):
zero to four beat number seven ranked Penn State forty
two to thirty seven. Guys, we will not see a
larger upset this year.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
I mean again, UCLA came into this game steve last
in the conference in both offense and defense.

Speaker 9 (28:50):
With the week early schedule, they were still only averaging
fourteen point the game unbelievable, and it was twenty seven
of it.

Speaker 2 (28:56):
At that I mean, I was thinking, look, if we're
gonna be bad, we might as well be his story bag.
We meaning because of my UCLA roots, h and I thought,
oh and twelve, let's do it. I mean, let's add
let's go oh and twelve.

Speaker 9 (29:07):
Last night on our airwaves, we had a college football
writer on as a regular guest, and he said he
was talking about just that the UCLA could actually go winlessly.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
Oh, we would have been a huge underdog in every
game the rest of the year would out pull an upset.

Speaker 9 (29:20):
They were such an underdog in this game that for
every ten dollars you'd bet on UCLA to win today,
just ten, you'd get one hundred and thirty dollars back
fly every ten.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
If you just pick the money line and pick them
to win straight up.

Speaker 9 (29:34):
Astounding result here forty two to thirty seven. In fact,
they said on the telecast at CBS, the last time
we had a top ten team losing to an zho
and four club was nineteen eighty five. It's been four decades.
Wow since UTEP upset a top ten BYU squad. Just craziness.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
What went on today?

Speaker 9 (29:53):
Florida at home beat number nine Texas twenty nine twenty one.
Alabama won its top twenty matchup against Vanderbilt thirty to fourteen.
Cincinnati at home beat number fourteen ranked Iowa State thirty
eight to thirty. Wins for Georgia and Michigan, wins for
Notre Dame and Illinois. Currently number one Ohio State has
scored again. They're up fourteen to three on Minnesota as

(30:14):
they approach mid second quarter. It's number three Miami leading
seven to three at Florida State. That's early in the
second color and now he's up to fifty eight yards passing.
But Tommy Castellanos of Florida State was one of three
through the air in the first period. As for Mississippi State,
they're at number six Texas A and M and the
Bulldogs lead a M three nothing mid second quarter, about

(30:37):
five minutes to go second period. Number eleven Texas Techa
had twenty two to three at Houston in a battle
of four and O teams UNLV's four and oh and
leading at Wyoming seventeen to three in the second quarter.
On Fox TV. Colorado ahead at TCU seven nothing in
the second quarter, TCU zero to one in its conference.
But as we recall, TCU absolutely destroyed North Carolina in

(31:00):
their season openers, and Carolina was at home and losing
badly to Clemson today thirty eight to ten. If you
saw the crowd at Carolina today.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
Oh, they were gone, third quarter, disappeared.

Speaker 9 (31:12):
There were orange shirts in the crowd with some leftovers
Clemson fans.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
It was.

Speaker 9 (31:17):
It was as bad as bad gets and it's already
been bad.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
Well.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
Belichick also said, the problem is we have no talent,
and then his quarterbacks said, we have the talent, we
just we're here to win. Well, so he rips his
own team for lack of talent.

Speaker 9 (31:32):
Coach, I would add, having seen these North Carolina games,
at least the high profile ones this year, there are
pre snat penalties and.

Speaker 4 (31:41):
Just undisciplined from what it is, and this is the
worst coached Division one FBS school in the entire country
right now.

Speaker 9 (31:51):
Well, I haven't seen Kent State, so.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
Yes, there we go in the Power Conference. Let's put
it that one. I wouldn't put UCLA on the list,
but well to Sean fov now.

Speaker 9 (32:01):
They've been replaced. One NFL note, Raiders tight end Brock
Bauers questionable with a knee injury and trending toward not
playing it Indy according to NFL Network, and tightend Michael
Mayer's already out with a concussion.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve Disager.

six games kicking off to start our show.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
We're gonna be so related easy, They're gonna be so relaxed.
We usually have nine ten games going on at the
same time. Six and no baseball because baseball is like.

Speaker 2 (33:18):
We don't want to compete with the NFL. Smart, very smart.
For a second, I was like, why are Oh?

Speaker 3 (33:23):
I told my friend that they weren't playing Game two
on Sunday and she's like why because because it's God's
Day and I was like, no, because it's football day.

Speaker 2 (33:31):
Yeah, exactly, very smart my Major League base.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
Absolutely on the other side of this, we're gonna try
that segment out again that I sucked that last week
that our wonderful producer Ian Roddy put together, and hopefully
I don't suck as much this week.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
What did I suck at? Well, you're gonna have to
tune in. Don't go anywhere. He's Steve Hartman.

Speaker 3 (33:50):

I am MONSI Belanya's reunited with Steve Hartman, who is
in for Martin Weiss, who is out gallivanting being a
married man, being responsible, providing for his wife.

Speaker 2 (34:15):
Yeah, well, when you get married you want to stay married,
then that's true. I should you should know.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
You should know that, you know all about that, you
know all about that. Just quick scores here, Number three
Miami added another touchdown, so they're on top of number
eighteen Florida State fourteen to three right now. It's early
in the second quarter, and when it comes to baseball
game one of the NLDS between the Dodgers and the Phillies.
Phillies are still up right now at home. It's three

(34:40):
to two, top of the seventh inning. And I don't
know if you noticed. On the helmets during the baseball postseason,
Strass made history as the first.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
Brand ever on the helmets.

Speaker 3 (34:51):
Family owned since nineteen forty eight, Strass makes work wear
built to perform, smart pocket design, real comfort and durability

at Strass dot com. That's Strauss s t R A
U S S dot com.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
I finally noticed. I saw the Strauss and I'm where
did that come from? And now I know?

Speaker 3 (35:14):
Now you know, first time ever, a little history for that,
not too shabby. Hopefully I'll be making history by redeeming
myself in this next segment.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Ian Roddy, our producer.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
Explain it for everybody, Explain it for me, so I
don't suck as much.

Speaker 7 (35:27):
Because a completely Now. Yeah, set in stone here. So
we have a few sound bites here that we're going
to play for you guys, Monty and Steve and the
listeners as well.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
Play along in your car wherever you may be listening
on the iHeart app You'll be better than me. Uh.

Speaker 7 (35:40):
And each sound bite corresponds to a professional sports team,
whether it be NFL or NBA. We're sticking to those.

Speaker 10 (35:46):
Two leagues for NFL or Okay, all right, let's play
the first sounds.

Speaker 6 (35:51):
Paco.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
Okay, so this is Harry Potter. Harry is Harry Potter.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
The Wizard? Just correct? Well, Hi, everydeemed myself. You should
have hear heard me last week, Steve. Okay, I was
completely lost, so that I mean more recent pop culture.
By the way, the Dodgers just took the lead on
a taoscar Hernandez bomb.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
Oh good, make up for your defensive woes.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
There they all scar all right. Next sound, good job?
Is that a dolphin? The Dolphins? That is a dolphin.
I'm surprised it took you guys that long because I
wasn't sure who that was. Steve is still thinking Dolphins, correct,

(36:42):
I knew I get it, Thank you, oh pleasure. Tampa
Bay Buccaneers. Correct. I was like, that can't be the Pirates. Yeah,
that's why I said, nicely Buccaneers. Look at that nicely?

Speaker 1 (36:59):
Dot.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
Next sound Steelers Steelers is correct? Well done, Steeve, How
did you get that.

Speaker 3 (37:08):
So I was like, that sounds like metal hitting Blacksmith.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
That's what I Steelers. I'm on fire right now now,
I'm like actually focused. Okay though, Like all right, next sound,
that's a basketball going through the hoop a swish? Yes,

(37:33):
the nets? The nets is correct? Well done, seats. How
did I not get that? I wouldn't even have thought
of it until you said what you said and I
was like, oh, I couldn't even identify that as a swish.
And then when you said that, I'm like, that's a swish.
How did I not get that? Okay? Next sound? The Hawks?

Speaker 9 (37:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (38:00):
No, what is the full team name? The Atlanta Hawks?

Speaker 10 (38:04):
No, not the Atlanta Hawks, the no.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
Hold on, hold on, don't give it? Play again? What
kind of bird is that? Play again?

Speaker 9 (38:20):
Oh god?

Speaker 2 (38:22):
The concatoots. All right, I'm gonna give you guys your
first clue here. It's an NFC West team, NFC West Seahawks.
Seahawks is correct? There you go? How would I have
identified that as a saw? That's that's why you said
the Seahawks bird. I know, that's why that's why you said.
When I said the Hawks, you were like trying to
say Seahawks, I was not no, no, thank you, all right,

(38:45):
next thing would be mad if you don't get this
one movie girl, don't put pressure on me. That's cutting.
That's scissors. The come on, Steve, it's I mean, it's scissors.
What is it? The sewers? No wait, plait again, plait ahead.

(39:08):
I also just like forget all the names of everything
on the uh cutting, scissors, chop.

Speaker 7 (39:15):
Scissors, chopping, it's another word for scissors, clippers.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
So she gave it away that you as the ultimate
Clipper fan. If you don't know what the clippers is
about a ship, it is about a ship. But we
got there, Okay, it's fine. Well we did chargers last
week and it was an iPhone charger. Yeah, exactly, next
wind have gone it. You're I just don't know the

(39:50):
Buffalo bills.

Speaker 10 (39:51):
No again, this could be an NBA or NFL te
mind NFL if that helps.

Speaker 2 (40:02):
It's I don't know. Is that a were wolf?

Speaker 4 (40:05):
To me?

Speaker 2 (40:05):
That's not God? Could anybody I didn't know?

Speaker 7 (40:10):
No's and CT and Western Conference and they don't have
the same name.

Speaker 2 (40:16):
But that that's the sound of a cowboy when they're
throwing up.

Speaker 7 (40:21):
They said they drank too much after this I'm gonna
give this one of you guys.

Speaker 2 (40:25):
It's the Chicago Bears or the Memphis.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
Was the other one.

Speaker 3 (40:29):
Okay, I wasn't going to get there.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
Who knows what a bear sounds like? Final sound, that's
a wolf. So the timber Wolves, the Timberwolves. Well done, guys.
That I didn't suck so bad about. Was there a
score being kept on that? No, we did it together
because I was so bad. Here team effort.

Speaker 1 (40:50):
Listening to sports radio radio.

Speaker 3 (40:53):
That's right reunited and it feels so good. Thanks for
tuning in, everybody, Happy Saturday, New meddle. Those here with
mister Hartman and me, who is in for Martin Weis?

Speaker 2 (41:05):
Don't worry.

Speaker 3 (41:06):
He's fine, he'll be back. He's just fulfilling his new
husband duties.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
Yeah, I mean he's got it now that once you've
had your own wedding, now you're required to go to
many other weddings. Too, many other weddings always waiting for
those designated married couples, especially newly weds. They bring a
positive vibe. See how happy they are. Quickly you don't
want are bringing people who have been around, you know,
buried all those years. It's like, yeah, now you want

(41:32):
it fresh.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
You want it fresh, keeping the positive vibes.

Speaker 2 (41:34):
I like all that.

Speaker 3 (41:35):
Now, be sure to check out DraftKings sportsbook and official
sports betting partner of the NFL right now. Use the
promo code Fox Game that's Fox Games to claim your
special offer at Draft Kings. Draft Kings, the Crown is yours.
Don't forget abouts promo code Fox Game. Week five of
the NFL has kicked off, Steve, a game that I

(41:56):
was not expecting between the forty nine ers and the Rams.
You and I have discussed the discuss this this division
a lot on our Sunday your Sunday show where I'm
here anchoring with you, and I really thought, you know.

Speaker 2 (42:11):
San Francisco was gonna have an.

Speaker 3 (42:13):
Easy season because of their strength of schedule. Really, that's
why I was giving them the edge over everybody else.
You have always been high on the Rams, always been high,
and I understand.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
I understand why.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
Matthew Stafford you can rely on him, You can rely
on Sean McVay.

Speaker 2 (42:30):
I understand all of that. Well, who whoa You can
depend on Sean McVay unless he's coaching against Kyle Shanahan.
I mean, it's em oil. He did beat him in
the biggest game, right, which was that NSCENT Championship game
to get to the Super Bowl and eventually win that
Super Bowl. But in the regular season, Kyle Shanahan owns him,

(42:51):
He really does.

Speaker 3 (42:52):
But did you really think knowing that information going into
this game, the depleted forty nine ers were gonna be
able to pull off this win over the Rams.

Speaker 2 (43:02):
Okay, you know we open up talking about UCLA stunning
upset over in st but this, at least from a
point spread standpoint, is the biggest upset we've had in
the NFL this year. Eight and a half point Dogs.
Remember you got a backup quarterback. Your top three wide
receivers are out, Kittles out, Bosas out for the year.
I mean, they are completely in shambles. And I don't

(43:26):
know what the mindset was with the Rams, but it
was not a good mindset. In the beginning of that game.
You found yourself down in an early whole fourteen nothing.
They woke up in the second half, but there was
still so many unaccounted things. In that last play on
fourth wall, Are you kidding me? You try to draw
I get going for it. You don't want to kick
a field there's you know, there's no double overtime, so

(43:46):
there's what four minutes left in the overtime, you kick
the field goal to tie, they go down, they win
the game, so you gotta go for it. I get that,
but remember they try to draw them off side and
that didn't happen, so you call it time out. So
you come out of the timeout, you got Matthew Stafford,
who's on five fire. In the second half, you got
I don't know, Pooka Nakula who is who just caught

(44:09):
a touchdown pass where he literally did a turn in
through it low and he fell into the end zone.
That's all you needed on fourth and one. You can
run that exact play. They're not gonna stop Pooka Nakua
from getting those one or two yards to extend the series.
And you come out of a timeout with a hey, everybody,

(44:30):
I'm going to hand the ball off to Kyron Williams.
I mean it's one of those you know what I'm saying,
where the where the quarterbacks are extends are like it's
a hand off. There you go, it's a handoff, and
that whole side just caves in and he doesn't come

(44:50):
close to the first down and then afterwards, you know,
Sean mcvay's like, well, I got that was a really
bad call.

Speaker 3 (44:55):
You think, yeah, no, he took full responsibility after that.
But you walk away from that game thinking Mac Jones
is just as good as brock Perty.

Speaker 2 (45:06):
I would say that's safe to say.

Speaker 3 (45:07):
You would say that's safe to say. I mean Kyle Shanahan, though,
has done it. He went, he went to a super
Bowl and almost one with mister pretty boy. Why am
I blinking on his name?

Speaker 2 (45:16):
Jimmy Well has one of the highest winning percentages of
any quarterback of all time.

Speaker 3 (45:22):
You could say that all you want is he on
a team right now?

Speaker 2 (45:25):
Is he playing? He's not so so he's on the rams,
but he's like a backup exactly. He's he's we have
not seen him play at all.

Speaker 3 (45:35):
I have a hard time saying, like mac Jones is
as good as brock Party. I don't think Mac Jones
has a strength in his arm that Brock Party has.
And it's hard for me to not say this is
Kyle Shanahan and the magician that he is, knowing he
has a depleted roster on how to make everyone succeed
at their spots, like Mac Jones was.

Speaker 2 (45:58):
Perfect well, Mac Jones. It was a first round draft pick.
He was an offensive rookie of the year before things
went sideways in New England, and you know, and he
dusted himself off. We saw this was Sam Darnold who
dusted himself off and got an opportunity in Minnesota in
a system that worked for him. And by the way,

(46:18):
he's doing fairly well with Seattle right now. So look
at it. Look at mac Jones has talent. I mean,
if you saw him his senior year at Alabama, first
team All American, third in the heis and completed almost
eighty percent of his passes, so he's capable of being
a very accurate passer. So I'm not surprised. Does this
change anything, No, because they invested in brock Purty. Absolutely,

(46:38):
he has a contract. He has a contract. But the
good news for the forty nine ers is now we
know one hundred percent that we have a backup quarterback
that can run this offense the way we want this
offense to be run.

Speaker 3 (46:51):
Yeah, I'm not trying to take away from Mac Jones
at all. I just am giving more of the edge
here to Kyle Shanahan and what he does when he
needs to put a team together. And mac Jones threw
for three hundred and forty two yards, two touchdowns, no interception,
no interceptions, cramping apparently in both his legs and arms,
throwing up on the side.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
I don't know if you caught I saw that. If
you caught that, Also, he saw a dead body before
all this, Did you hear about that? What happened to here?

Speaker 3 (47:18):
He saw a dead body at the start of his day.
So listen, maybe mac Jones is more of the man
that I'm giving.

Speaker 2 (47:23):
The saw a dead body. Diana Lussini has a story.

Speaker 3 (47:30):
Yes, So the hotel the team, Hotel Marina Delray. He
went out to his balcony at the start of the
day and he saw a dead floating body in the water.
Called the cops literally, they brought a coroner out. This
was all before they left the hotel. So the team
sees all of this before they leave the hotel.

Speaker 2 (47:47):
Anybody else see this floating body or just mac Jo
mac Jones.

Speaker 3 (47:51):
And apparently the team whoever he calls in that moment.
So maybe he is more of the man than I
am giving him credit for, because I think if I
saw a dead body before a game, a big showdown
in the NFC West on Thursday night football on short
rest that I.

Speaker 2 (48:03):
Don't seem to be a bad OMEN.

Speaker 3 (48:05):
You would think it would be a bad OMEN.

Speaker 2 (48:07):
Dead man floating, but not for him. Wow, not for
the forty man.

Speaker 7 (48:11):
Maybe they ended up being alive and it was a
secretly a good Omen. Like maybe when they found the
body it was actually they had just been we.

Speaker 2 (48:19):
Don't know how long that body's been floating. By the way,
let's give it away from that floating body though, I mean,
the fact was he was cramping. He was cramping in
the legs and in the forearm. I've never seen that before.
And then the throw up scene was hilarious to be
on the street.

Speaker 1 (48:34):
I know.

Speaker 2 (48:35):
I was like, is he throwing up? Oh, he's throwing up.

Speaker 3 (48:38):
Yeah, it's always happened so fast, I mac Jones again, great, great,
but I am giving I am giving the flowers to
Kyle shanahan after this game and looking at Sean mcvahanbe like,
I don't know what happened here because the play calling.
I know you're taking responsibility for that. But Matthew Stafford,
who I thought coming into this season was one hard

(48:59):
hit away from saying, you know what, guys, I am
banged up.

Speaker 2 (49:01):
I can't do this right now.

Speaker 3 (49:03):
In that second half, he carried that team.

Speaker 2 (49:05):
Well, the problem for the Rams right now, and I
said before the season, Moncie, as you know that if
I were to say, who's the next best team to
the Eagles in the NFC, it's the Rams with a
healthy Matthew Stafford. If Stafford is healthy, I think the
Rams are the second best team in the NFC. They
could easily be five and zero right now. They could could.
And the problem is they're special. Teams are atrocious. Can

(49:29):
you block? How many times are you going to have
a kick blocked? And it's not Cardi. I mean, the
guy can make kicks. He made a forty eight yarder
to send this game, you know, for the forty nine
ers into the overtime. So the guy can make kicks,
but they can't block. They had the kick it blocked
against the Eagles. I mean, why are there so many

(49:49):
block kicks?

Speaker 6 (49:50):
Here?

Speaker 2 (49:51):
Block kicks, block punts. Block'll come up with a new
scheme here. I'm blocking these kicks, I mean some of them.
Though it looks like literally nobody's doing their job. Though
it looks like just a clean white That is the
way you're supposed to do. You're supposed to create a
confusion for the offensive line where it could create a
potential opening for someone to slip through. That's what every

(50:12):
team is trying to do. But it just seems like
they're way more successful of doing it this year than
we see in the past. So after this debacle by
the Rams, a debacle also against the Eagles by the Rams,
you still feel confident in the Rams? Really? Oh, I
still think the Rams can do it. Look, you still
have demonte Adams and Pooka Nakula in that play. Well again,

(50:34):
Sean McVay and I've I've always been a defender. Sean
mcvay's record speaks for itself. He's one of the best
coaches in the NFL. But when Kyle Sanhans on the
other side of the field, he just goes into a
brain fart, like, like, what is going on here? How
do you make that call? Fourth and one out of
a timeout and you have a straight hand out with

(50:55):
the old extended arm hand That's what that's like? A
first and ten play? You know what you do? Like
first intend to start the game straight arm handoff we
can see it coming. Let's see if we can block
somebody not on fourth and one win the game's on
the line. No, not at all.

Speaker 3 (51:09):
But the forty nine Ers seem to be in a
good spot because Brock Purdy set back with that tote turf.

Speaker 2 (51:15):
Well, you're three and zero in the in the division, yes,
so right off the bat that that is huge for
the forty nine Ers. I saw John Lynch was skipping
off the field though there too. By the way, I
had a friend that was at the game, seventy forty
Niner fans. People, people don't understand the Chargers always get ripped,
you know, for the fact that their games at Sofi
Stadium are overwhelmingly for the opposing team. It's no different

(51:38):
from the Rams. It's no different. Seventy five percent. I
had a friend that was at the game, a producer,
Mindy kay Tila, was at the game. Seventy five percent.
He goes the the one side was all red, the
Rams side was blue, the end zones are red. It
was seventy five. Forty nine Er fans. People don't I'll

(51:59):
get this. If you're in an NFL city other than La,
You're like, are you kidding? Me the NFL rules not
in LA. There are die hard Charger fans. There are
diehard Ram fans, but they've never gotten beyond that. This
is the tenth year since the Rams came back to LA,
It's the ninth year for the Chargers in LA, and
there's still no buzz for either one of these teams.

Speaker 3 (52:20):
Share I say, though, that the buzz has actually gotten
higher for the Chargers, but the Charger fan base now
you do still see the other team. But I feel
like the Rams fans are showing up more this year
than they ever have.

Speaker 2 (52:34):
Well, not in this forty nine Er game. It was
all that was not the Charger fan base.

Speaker 3 (52:39):
You guys.

Speaker 7 (52:39):
You also have to take into account that the forty
nine Ers are a team that also plays in the
same state.

Speaker 2 (52:43):
So like, but I'm saying, like, there are no excuses
here if you have if you own a city. The
Rams won a stinking Super Bowl, and by the way,
you had home field for that Super Bowl, and seventy
five percent of the fans and that game were Cincinnati fans,
by the way, Bengals fans no less, and no, I mean,

(53:06):
you win a Super Bowl, you have a marquee quarterback
in Matthew Stafford. You have a marquee coach, you won
a Super Bowl. You would think at that point you've
taken over the city totally. And nothing has changed for
the Rams since they won that Super Bowl.

Speaker 7 (53:21):
Say nothing, Niners, like if they were playing you know,
the Tennessee should not be any Snati Bengals like, it's
not gonna think.

Speaker 2 (53:27):
Do you think the Buffalo Bills are ever out drawn
by any fan base? No, no, you guys, I know
what the problem is.

Speaker 3 (53:33):
You guys are just missing the big, big, obvious problem
is that forty nine Er fans live in LA and
they're Dodger fans.

Speaker 2 (53:41):
That's what it is. They're not even coming from San Francisco.
I think they live here and literally where forty nine
Ers gear and Dodger gear. Okay uh, And we know
Raider fans still very much exist in Los Angeles as well. Look,
they've done surveys in the LA area, like what is
your favorite team? And I'll put it this way, neither
the Rams nor the Chargers at the top of that list.

Speaker 1 (54:05):
Whatever.

Speaker 2 (54:06):
Bolt fam is getting better, We're getting better. Okay, Well,
you can't lose to the Windless Giants every week. That
means to end, and Herbert did not play well in
that game. We love Joe alt He and Rashon Slater.
What do you want him to do. He's gonna come
out shut. Don't upset me. It was that left tackle,
by the way he came into that game. He was

(54:26):
so bad. He there was a sac of Herbert where
that guy literally did not touch the edge. Rusher didn't
touch it. I know, I know Steved did not look
they just pulled this guy out of the crowd or
what happened.

Speaker 3 (54:39):
It was crazy, very very upsetting now that you're bringing
back that game. But they're gonna pick it up and
in week five, Okay, they're gonna gonna have a better
week the Chargers, even though Joe alt probably is still
banged up and will not be returning quite yet.

Speaker 2 (54:54):
The Commanders also get Daniels back. I know Steve I
had ran last night on the news, Jim Harbaugh saying,
our defense is gonna have a great challenge. Great and great. Fine,
it's fine. On the other side of this, we're gonna
dive into October baseball. You're upsetting me. You're upsetting me.
We're gonna dive into October baseball. Because reunited, and it

(55:16):
feels so.

Speaker 3 (55:17):
Good because it seems for the most part, the teams
with the BUYE so far haven't missed a beat. Rust
versus rest, that's always the question. Let's dive into that next.
Don't go anywhere. He is Steve Hartman. I am Manzie
Bolanio's and this is Fox Football Saturday. That's right, reunited

(55:37):
on this Saturday, a Saturday where the UCLA Bruins delivered
one of the biggest upsets we may see all season.

Speaker 2 (55:46):
Can you imagine tonight I have after we leave here,
I have TV tonight, and so in the LA market,
whenever I talk about UCLA, I refer to him literally
as my Ruins. Yes, which has been embarrassing all year long. Obviously,
Mike Bruins suck. In fact, I did a scathing commentary

(56:09):
a couple of weeks ago, the day before they fired,
to Sean Foster, the idea that I'm going to be
able to talk about you, Sill's insane upset victory of
a Penn State about getting ill you to me, there
won't be any other What else am I going to
talk about too? There's nothing else you're gonna talk about.
That's it. You're just going to keep rolling all over,

(56:30):
rolling over and over, and talk about Jerry nuheis being
carried off the field, off the field, which by the way,
he looks the same. Does he not look the same?
He does? He does absolutely. And and you know the
other thing is this Heisman Trophy race. There's no no
one has had a good start yet. I've had a
Heisman vote since twenty ten and I cannot remember this

(56:54):
deep into the college football season where we don't have
two or three like, okay, now much are the guys
to beat? Okay, we have no we's zero right now. Now,
if Nico Imalaava, the UCLA quarterback, can win his next
seven in a row and get him into the Big
Ten championship game and then win that, boom, there you go, ahead,
here you go. That's perfect. That's easy.

Speaker 3 (57:15):
That's easy for him. Thanks for tuning in. Everybody, Happy Saturday.
Steve Hartman, I am Manci Bolano's and Steve Desaga is
going to give us an update right now as to
what just happened. Dodgers getting out of a jam. So
good good news there, but he'll give us an update.
But October baseball, Steve, you know once we got into
the divisional round. What was your gut telling you who's

(57:36):
going to the World Series?

Speaker 2 (57:37):
Well, I look at it. I said this all along,
that for some reason people are looking at Milwaukee in
Toronto and dismissing them, like because obviously Milwaukee has him
been too a World Series since nineteen eighty two and
Toronto has been a long time since they won those
back to back series in the nineties. And so these
were the best teams this year for the most part

(58:00):
in the American League. The Blue Jays are the better team,
and the Bruers dominated in the National League, and yet
everyone seemed to dismiss them. And Toronto just bombs the
Yankees today, bombs the Brewers, bomb the Cubs today, and
so yeah, it's like, wow, gee, these are really good teams,
and you're like, yeah, no, you know what. So that

(58:22):
was my early takeaway is that if you didn't know
already Toronto and Milwaukee are legit, I will say I
don't take Toronto seriously. And that's my fault.

Speaker 3 (58:34):
I know that there's no reason for me to say that,
aside from you seem to fall short every time in
the postseason.

Speaker 2 (58:41):
The last couple of seasons, The Brewers, though.

Speaker 3 (58:43):
Have been hot and they have not skipped a beat
coming out today Russ versus Rest.

Speaker 2 (58:48):
We talked about that. You know, a couple of years
ago the Dodgers took the buy and it didn't work
out for them. Here we are. The Brewers scored nine
runs in the first two eights, didn't or again without
a home run. Yeah, I know, and so this is
and this is how the Brewers play it. You know,
so many teams in this day and age just sit

(59:09):
back and wait for the big bomb. Brewers put up
nine runs. How about the fact that the Brewers scored
more runs off the Cubs in the first inning then
the Padres scored off the Cubs in three games.

Speaker 3 (59:22):
Yeah, I mean, yeah that I hate the Padres, hate them.
But that call against Xander Bogart's.

Speaker 2 (59:30):
Third strike, Okay, I understand that. But they scored five runs.
Not that that weree games, not that they.

Speaker 3 (59:35):
Would have won because none of them can hit for
an end of time.

Speaker 2 (59:37):
I mean, they'd love to say it that residents. So
if it's a ball, he walks. The next two batters
were hit, and then you have basics nobody else.

Speaker 3 (59:44):
I just never know what would have happened in that moment.
It's post but the Padres weren't hitting.

Speaker 2 (59:48):
That is a fact.

Speaker 3 (59:49):
They were not hitting when it mattered. Their stars were
not hitting when it mattered. So it just I was like,
ABS can't come soon enough because that play in seconds
could have been fixed you go onto first base.

Speaker 2 (59:59):
I truly feel it is the year of the Mariners.

Speaker 3 (01:00:02):
And I don't know if it's just because baseball is
so romantic.

Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
I don't know what it is, but to me, it
is the year of the Mariners. Well, it's gonna be
interesting because in this series against the Tigers, you got
to look at Schooble twice. It's true, and we saw
him the other day with his fourteen strikeout game. So
if you assume schoogl is gonna win two games, that's
only one short of knocking the Mariners out, right, So

(01:00:28):
that's that's gonna be a tall order. I don't you know,
I don't see how any team is going to beat
Schooble when he's on his game, and he showed that
in the last game. So the Tigers, right, So that's that.
That would be the the climb to you know, the
hill to cline for Seattle the good News officer of
the Mariners. They had a red hot September could be

(01:00:49):
enough with Cal Rowly's sixty home runs to win an
MVP Award, despite the fact Aaron Judge led the majors
and everything. You know, you have a most Valuable day
with the bases loaded. Well, he's done. The thing about
Aaron Judges, he hasn't done anything in the postseason. He
hasn't his whole career. I know it's terrible.

Speaker 3 (01:01:07):
I love Aaron Judge, love Aaron Judge, greatest hitter right now,
but he doesn't perform in the postseason.

Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
And today, bases loaded had the opportunity to do something.
He struck out. Yeah, and that drop ball and center
for that We'll never forget that, will I mean, that
is an inning of all time.

Speaker 3 (01:01:24):
Now, even though I'm saying I do, I do believe
the Parenters it's their season. I think the Dodgers have
a legit chance, obviously because we're full of m vps
and all that.

Speaker 4 (01:01:31):
I know.

Speaker 3 (01:01:31):
Our roster is stacked, all the money, yes, yes, yes, yes,
the bullpen obviously. The biggest question mark when it comes
to the Dodgers. You don't seem very sold on Roki
Sasaki coming in.

Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
Why don't know? Yeah, he has like one game against
shut him.

Speaker 3 (01:01:50):
Jump on the bandwagon that Issaki is a closer.

Speaker 2 (01:01:54):
Can you just jump on this bandwagon we're watching now.
I mean glass Now got through a couple of innings here,
So that was good for the Dodgers. But when you
go into the postseason and you have to abandon your
entire bullpen understandably, So you know what's crazy about how
this has changed from a year ago. Last year, the
Dodgers became the Dodgers said an all time record for

(01:02:17):
a team that actually won the World Series for fewest
innings per start in the postseason of any team that
ever actually went on to win the World Series. Their
bullpen was so dynamic last year in the postseason. This
year is the complete opposite. And Dave Roberts knows my
starters have to go six innings. Yeah, if I got
to pull after five, no, I mean snell Yamamoto, Otani, Glasnow,

(01:02:43):
who's ever starting for me? You have got to give
me at least six, hopefully seven, because we even saw
with the Reds those eighth innings were unreal. Rough They
can't throw strikes, no rough, rough rough.

Speaker 3 (01:02:55):
But Roki Sasaki in the short sample size that we
have gone look like he has his pitches under control
better than he did during the regular season, which was
also a small sample. But I feel like he could
be the X factor, which is crazy to think because
a couple of months ago to us, rookie Sasaki was unavailable.

Speaker 2 (01:03:16):
Rookie pitchers can change the dynamic if or any team.
When the Angels won their only World Series way back
in two thousand and two, they had to beat the Yankees.
They beat the Twins, they beat the Giants, and how
they do it. They they introduced the world to a
setup kid, rookie named Francisco Rodriguez. Oh yeah, and he
came in and this kid was throwing just nasty stuff.

(01:03:38):
He've been brought up like the last month of the year,
and they unleashed this guy in the postseason and he
was a huge reason why the Angels were able to
pull the upset and end up winning a World Series
that year. So maybe maybe rookie Sasaki is that as
a rookie struggled. Obviously, a lot of people predicted he
was going to be Rookie of the Year, did not

(01:03:59):
turn out, got hurt at least he's strong. Right now,
how about show, hey, Otani in this game is zero
for four with four strikeouts.

Speaker 3 (01:04:07):
You know, it's a lot to ask of someone to
be a pitcher and a.

Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
Hitter, right, I was gonna say, right, think about that.
So the Dodgers have Otani starting in this game. He
stays in the game with the Otani role. But after
obviously a very good uh you know, wild Card series.
Remember he hit one eighteen in the World Series. He
wasn't one hundred percent. We know that in the postseason
last year. But here against the Phillies in the first game,
oh for four, four strikeouts.

Speaker 3 (01:04:32):
Come on, he's gonna he's gonna pick it up right now.
By the way, have you seen that red Ostrich logo
on Professional Baseball's postseason helmets. That's Straws family owns in
nineteen forty eight and trusted by pros world wide. Pants
built like tools, durable, comfortable, an engineered to perform from
grit to glorygearup now.

Speaker 2 (01:04:50):
At Straws dot com. That's s t R A u
SS dot com. Well, let's go to the news desk.
Steve Disager can catch us up.

Speaker 3 (01:04:59):
Not just on sho hey, o Tani, who's at the
play right now, but everything else happening here.

Speaker 2 (01:05:03):
Yes, y'all has a chance to make history here. No
player in the postseason ever's gone zero for five with
five strikeouts.

Speaker 9 (01:05:09):
He has already done what Sandy Kofax used to do
is strikeout nine on the mount and strike out four
times exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
He walked. This time he did get a walk, so
they here you go.

Speaker 9 (01:05:19):
That is a two out walk. And yes, the closer
is being used by Philadelphia in the top of the
ninth inning with LA up five to three, because the
Phillies have been off this week. They're just starting this
best of five division series against LA and there is
no game tomorrow on this crazy division series schedule. Game
two in Philly is Monday night. Dodgers, who are up
throught five to three against the Phills, and Roki Sasaki

(01:05:41):
is warming up in the bullpen to pitch the ninth
with a two run lead. Dodgers were down three to
nothing early took the lead on a three run homer
from Taoscar Hernandez in the top of the seventh. The
Phillies had bases loaded against Tyler Glass Noow in relief
in the eighth with two Outsla brought in Alex Vesia,

(01:06:01):
who has been an adventure, so we say, out of
the pen the last couple weeks, like most Dodger relievers.
But he got to pop out to end the frame
and the Dodgers keep the five to three lead. Now
two outs in the top of the ninth. Earlier, Milwaukee,
the number one overall seed, beat up the Cubs nine
to three. Brewers led nine to one in the second inning.
Milwaukee outfielder Jackson Curio left with hamstring tightness. He was

(01:06:25):
three for three with three RBIs. The Cubs had three
solo homers for their only scoring. The loss to Matthew
Boyd on short rest. He got the start and he
was out in the first inning thirty pitches, a guy
who's era in September was over five. The top seed
in the American League, Toronto beat the Yankees ten to one.
It was a two to one lead in the seventh inning.
Vladimiricaurero Junior with three hits, including a first inning home run.

(01:06:47):
The Toronto Blue Jays at home against the Yankees this
year are now seven and one. On FS one opener
of a best of five division series at Seattle. It
is scoreless. Tigers and Mariners going to the fourth inning.
Update they are going to the bottom of the ninth.
In Philly, Sasak is coming on to try for the save.
LA up five to three on the fills. As for

(01:07:10):
the college football today, at the Rose Bowl, UCLA with
a massive upset of seventh ranked Penn State, Go ahead,
STATEA out loud, you didn't see it coming. Forty two
to thirty seven UCLA the final, and Florida at home
beat number nine Texas twenty nine to twenty one. Tenth
ranked Alabama over Vanderbilt, which had been five and oh
thirty to fourteen Bama the final. Cincinnati at home beat

(01:07:32):
Iowa State, which had been five and oh thirty eight
to thirty the final.

Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
There.

Speaker 9 (01:07:36):
Number one Ohio State is leading Minnesota twenty one to
three early third quarter of that game. Miami, ranked third,
leads fourteen to three at Florida State. Miami's quarterback in
the first half, Carson Beck nine of eleven passing one
hundred and twenty five yards and two scores. Early third quarter.
At number six Texas A and m Aggie's leads seven
to three against Mississippi State and its third quarter with

(01:08:00):
a battle of four and OH teams. Eleventh Ranke Texas
Tech leads at Houston twenty eight to eleven. Also in
college football, UNLV at four to OH is playing in
the snow at Wyoming tonight. Third quarter, Vegas leads twenty
four to ten, and on Fox TV starting the second half,
Colorado tied at TCU fourteen fourteen. Raiders tight end Brock

(01:08:22):
Bauers is questionable with a knee injury and trending toward
not playing at India. According to NFL Network, tight end
Michael Mayer out with a concussion.

Speaker 3 (01:08:30):
Now.

Speaker 9 (01:08:30):
Former quarterback Mark Sanchez was arrested at a hospital today
after stab wounds. Arrested on three misdemeanor charges, including public intoxication.
Sanchez was in Indianapolis to work the Colts game on
Fox TV. There was an incident downtown after midnight. Now
it's Brady Quinn and Chris Meyer is going to work
the game tomorrow. Other NFL notes, the Titans activated running

(01:08:53):
back TYJ Spears after a high ankle sprain in preseason.
The Saints activated tight ends Taysom Hill and Foster Moree.
So the Jets waved Isaiah Williams after mistakes on special
teams back to you.

Speaker 3 (01:09:05):
Thank you so much, Steve Disager. It is Fox Football Saturday.
I'm anti Bilano's. He next to me is Steve Harmon,
who is in for Martin Weiston. Where he's fine and

Speaker 8 (01:09:35):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
You know, the Chiefs are a team that everybody loves
to have a take on. They're good, they're bad. It's
over the dynasty.

Speaker 2 (01:09:41):
We don't care. And then this past week the Chiefs
seemed like they chiefd Yeah, they chieved against the worst
defense in the NFL, which is the Baltimore Ravens, and
it's not even close. I mean, the Ravens defense is
so bad. They made a Chiefs offense that hadn't done
anything all year of any significance look really dynamic. And

(01:10:05):
I wouldn't hold out hope that this is some kind
of turnaround for the Chiefs. When you look at the
AFC West right now, now, you and I disagree. I
have the Broncos winning this division. I that the Broncos
are coming out their best game so far of the year,
so I think they're back on track. I think that
the Chiefs are going to be one of those teams
that are going to be hanging around ten wins, maybe

(01:10:28):
ten and seven. You know, if they're lucky eleven and six.
They're no better than that, monsie. I mean, they're just
they're not close to where they were a few years ago.
So rolling it up on a bad Ravens team. And
by the way, how about this matchup between the Texans
and the Ravens. The loser of that game goes to
one in four and you're done. And so the Texans,
who are overwhelming favorites to win the AFC South, are

(01:10:50):
in deep trouble right now. And the Ravens are in
really serious trouble. They got injuries all over the place,
so their season seems to be unraveling as well. No,
I don't buy that. You know, somehow the Chiefs are
back after rolling it up again, say historically, bad Ravens
defense listen. I hear you.

Speaker 3 (01:11:10):
Raven's defense is not anything to necessarily be proud of
if you put.

Speaker 2 (01:11:14):
Points up on them. I hear all that.

Speaker 3 (01:11:16):
But the Chiefs now are getting actual weapons back. Xavier Worthy,
you know, Rashi Rice will be back. I think they're
opening up their field and giving again the opportunity for
Patrick Mahomes to come in there and be Patrick Mahomes
because he hasn't been able to do that.

Speaker 2 (01:11:31):
I don't disagree that.

Speaker 3 (01:11:32):
They are not the strong Kansas City Chiefs team that
we have seen in the past. I'm not saying that
they're back and the dynasty is back and they're going
to go to the super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
That's not what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (01:11:42):
But I do think that a lot of people dismiss
them early on because of how uneven they looked with
Patrick Mahomes. But then against the Ravens, you saw like
you had a weapon, you add another one all of
a sudden, Oh, Travis Kelce, who does look slow, can
give you a few catches. The field is starting to
open in a way that we hadn't seen.

Speaker 2 (01:12:01):
So I'm not fully saying that they are back. I'm
just saying you don't count them out. Yet, Look, if
you're a fan of a team in the AFC West,
which you are a you know not to count out
the Chiefs. What is it eight straight AAFC West titles.
I mean, so obviously they have owned the division and
I get all that, but I'm telling you right now,

(01:12:22):
both the Chargers and Broncos are better than the Chiefs.
Listen to what I'm saying. Right now, The Chargers and
the Broncos are better than the Chiefs right now. Now,
the Chiefs, you know, again, when you have the X factor.
And this is certainly no knock on Patrick Mahomes. He's
a first ballot Hall of Famer. His legacy is secure
even if he played never played another game. And this

(01:12:45):
guy we saw in that Charger game where the Chargers dominated,
the Chiefs dominated that game. The only thing that kept
the Chiefs in that game was some miracle plays being
pulled off by the great Patrick Mahomes. So he is
all that, but they just don't have enough around that.
They just don't. And so you know, when you you've
got to have guys that teams have to prepare for

(01:13:08):
the dynamic of the early Patrick Mahomes team when you
had Tyreek Hill, and a Travis Kelcey in his prime
that was a nightmare, like pick your poison, where are
you going to go? They don't have that anymore. I
know they don't have that. You talk about Savior Worthy
is not Tyreek Hill.

Speaker 3 (01:13:25):
They still have such a strong defense that even with
this offense that is not what it used to be.
At one point, they can still get the wins because
of their defense.

Speaker 2 (01:13:35):
Losing to the Eagles by three by three, but the
Eagles aren't playing well, but.

Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
It doesn't The point is like, even right now, everyone
is figuring it out, and I feel like with the
Steve Spagnolo mine behind their defensive approach, you cannot you
cannot think that the Chiefs can't pull this off.

Speaker 2 (01:13:55):
By the way, the Dodgers have defeated the Phillies five
to three, spotted him a three to nothing lead in
the second inning and they come back to win. And
I remind everyone again the defending World Series champions are
the Los Angeles Dodgers and they're three to zero in
this postseason. That's right, Rookie Sasaki did get the job done.

(01:14:16):
So maybe you're right. Maybe this guy becomes the dominant
closer in the postseason this whole season.

Speaker 3 (01:14:24):
When a closer came in, you were just like, man,
how many are they gonna give it away?

Speaker 2 (01:14:27):
Do we have enough of a lead? Well, I mean,
Blake Trinon's dead, I'm done. These guys are all done.
So this is a smart play. Can they keep it up?
But getting that first win in Philly, especially after what
Toronto did to the Yankees today, what the Brewers did
to the Cubs today, huge win for the World Series champs, huge,
huge win.

Speaker 3 (01:14:45):
I'm happy and I'm really glad that Rokie Sazaki was
able to get this first save and kind of get
it out of the way right, get the nerves out
of the way, especially on the road, especially on the
road first postseason appearance for you.

Speaker 2 (01:14:56):
I'm glad you got this one.

Speaker 3 (01:14:57):
Shake it off, especially after Otani didn't have the best
start on the mound, didn't have the best time on
the plate.

Speaker 2 (01:15:03):
But they get it, shake it off. What a great
win by the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (01:15:09):
Well, on the other side of this, our producer Ian
Roddy has got some items. If we're gonna buy yourself,
we're gonna we'll see if we're gonna buy yourself. Clearly
he's selling the Chiefs. I'm buying the Chiefs. No, he's
selling the Chiefs. But we'll see why. Ian has coicked up.
Don't go anywhere. He is Steve Hartman. I am Anti Bolanos,

(01:15:29):
and this is Fox Football Saturday, Fox Football Saturday.

Speaker 2 (01:15:35):
What's up, everybody? Thanks for tuning in. I am Monty Bilangos.
He is Steve Hartman. That's right, we are reunited. Yes,
and it.

Speaker 3 (01:15:42):
Feels so good. Marto whis swoopy back. Don't you worry.
He's just a married man now and he's got things
to do.

Speaker 2 (01:15:49):
He does responsibility.

Speaker 3 (01:15:51):
Life changes dramatically, happy wife, happy to be life.

Speaker 2 (01:15:55):
And as I told you, the reason I'm not married
anymore because I live by the care you, happy me,
happy life, which is not gonna work if you want
to be married exactly. And that is the perfect segue
to Ian. Roddy not married, he's living his best life.
Has a lady, but not married. Very different, very different.
All right, Ian, let's get it going, all right, that's right,

(01:16:18):
let's jump right in. Buy or sell.

Speaker 7 (01:16:20):
I have a few overarching NFL storylines here for you, guys,
and you're just gonna tell me whether you're buying or
selling stock in that storyline, pretty straightforward, love it all right?
First one here Steelers winning the AFC North and getting
a first round by and let me tell you, guys,
they currently lead the way at three and one.

Speaker 2 (01:16:38):
Buy or sell? It is too early for this question.

Speaker 7 (01:16:42):
I am.

Speaker 3 (01:16:45):
Buying that the Steelers are in right now a perfect
position to win the division.

Speaker 2 (01:16:53):
It's crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
I didn't think this would be a situation we'd be
talking about a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (01:16:59):
Well, I'm one hundred percent buying because I did pick
the Steelers to make the playoffs. But with the injuries
that the Ravens have had. With Joe Burrow out right now,
the Browns stink. I mean, who's challenging him in that division?

Speaker 3 (01:17:12):
Right?

Speaker 7 (01:17:12):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:17:12):
Crazy, you know? And the fact is is that, you know,
Mike Tomlin has had John Harbaugh's number over the years,
no matter how good the Ravens have been, Steelers always
seem to have their number head to head anyway. But
with Joe Burrow with the Bengals and the Browns being
the Browns right now, and people again, look, I didn't
understand why people thought they would take a step back

(01:17:34):
with Aaron Rodgers. Here's the thing, Aaron Rodgers last year,
as bad as the Jets were, he started all seventeen games. Yeah,
he had twenty eight touchdowns and eleven picks. Those are
pretty good numbers. He was not the reason they were
that bad. So he knows how to stay on the field. Yes,
I'm buying it's a preview there top of next hour.

Speaker 7 (01:17:52):
We're going to be getting into that a little more.
But next one here, Montee, like this one. Quinton Johnston
as the Chargers wide receiver, one of the future buy
or sell you.

Speaker 2 (01:18:02):
Know what I am going to buy on that.

Speaker 3 (01:18:04):
I know he sometimes has those drops that are still
annoying to see.

Speaker 2 (01:18:09):
And latimcconkie is still there, and.

Speaker 3 (01:18:10):
Lat McConkie is still there, but he hasn't He has
not delivered this year the way maybe I was hoping.

Speaker 2 (01:18:16):
So I yeah, QJ, let's go, let's go. I'm buying that. Well,
the reason Lad mcconky isn't all that is because of
Keenan Allen. You know. So obviously when you reunie Justin
Herbert with his former Pro Bowl wide receiver, he's getting
a lot of attention. Quentin Johnson. Even last year, what
do you have eight touchdowns. Yes, yes he did.

Speaker 3 (01:18:36):
It's into the ends because he drops the ball a
few times, which is annoying.

Speaker 2 (01:18:39):
Back it gets an ends, Okay. You know what, I've
always liked receivers to know where the end zone is.
Me too. You're Quentin Johnson knows where the end zone is,
so yeah, absolutely, absolutely all right.

Speaker 7 (01:18:49):
Next up cam Ward stock after a twenty six to
nothing lost to the Texans, where he himself postgame said
he played like ass buy or sell cam Wards.

Speaker 2 (01:18:59):
I mean like you have to sell it at this point.
You have to and I feel bad. I feel bad,
but I'm selling it. I'm selling it because what have
you shown at all this season? No, no, no, no,
I'm look, cam Ward is gonna be okay, He's gonna
be No. By the way, I've been saying that about
Bryce Young now for four years, three years. I've been

(01:19:20):
saying that he'll be fine, and he's not. I always
say this about I mean, there's always exceptions to everything,
but three years for a quarterback. Now, there have been
quarterbacks after three years that didn't do anything that ended
up in the Hall of Fame. Steve Young, Dan Fouts
are examples of that, but usually by year three. You

(01:19:40):
know whether that's gonna be a franchise quarterback or not.
And so now I'm not gonna say anything about cam
Ward after four games, that's a bad team. Option number
three hold stock would be yes, absolutely, Maybe I'm holding,
but I'm gonna sell right Next up A J.

Speaker 7 (01:19:58):
Brown being tree by the trade deadline. You guys mentioned
earlier in the in the show here, he's upset, so
is DeVante Smith, but Brown has been the more vocal
of the two. Moncy buy Er sell AJ Brown being
traded by the dead la.

Speaker 2 (01:20:10):
Oh, I'm absolutely buying that.

Speaker 3 (01:20:11):
I am buying that because I'd be like, bye, dude,
good luck, have a great time, and what other team
you end up in.

Speaker 2 (01:20:18):
I'm selling on that one. And the only reason I say,
I know the reason behind it. The problem is is
that you're not going to get value for him at
this point. It's that's true because you know you're talking
about an elite receiver when he's his mind is set
and with all the complaining going on, teams are just
not going to offer that much for AJ Brown. But
you want to keep the toxic environment with your team.

(01:20:41):
Are they still undefeated right now? They are still undefeated
AFC North. What is happening? We'll talk next.

Speaker 1 (01:20:49):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:20:52):
That's right, reunited, n it feels so good.

Speaker 3 (01:20:55):
Happy Saturday, our number three, Hartman and Moncey here hanging
out with you.

Speaker 2 (01:21:01):
Don't worry Martin Wise, We'll be back. He's just fulfilling
his new husband duties. Happy wife. What exactly did you
find out about this? About? You can be an absent
from tonight's show.

Speaker 3 (01:21:14):
A couple of days ago he had mentioned to me
that he was going to miss for some weddings that
he had to attend.

Speaker 2 (01:21:19):
But a few days ago is when I found out
you were going to be here.

Speaker 3 (01:21:23):
And I was so stoked about it because I was like,
who's gonna cover from Martin?

Speaker 2 (01:21:27):
And then they were like Steve Harmon.

Speaker 3 (01:21:28):
I said, okay, good, never mind, carry on, not mad.

Speaker 2 (01:21:31):
You didn't have to ask me you're right, You're right.
I would have approved that. You remember when we had
the dynamic show that we had got today, we were
just rolling along us and then it was it was
weird too because we were asked many times to extend
our show. Yes, like we did a two hour show, Yes,
can you go four?

Speaker 7 (01:21:48):
This week?

Speaker 2 (01:21:49):
Of course we can't, like, of course we can't. We
could do four and you knowing all this, and then
all of a sudden they like one week it sort
of split us up and they said, well can you
go there? And then Hartman, you go there? And then
little did we know, we kept saying what exactly when
when you get back together?

Speaker 3 (01:22:07):
Guys? Little did we know, But here we are reunited.
Little did we know that UCLA was gonna pull off
the upset today against number seven Penn State UCLA in
case you missed it, forty two to thirty seven. They
started their opening drive with a touchdown and then said
we're gonna do an on.

Speaker 2 (01:22:24):
Sidekick and got the successful on sidekick. It was brilliant.
I understand that UCLA had never scored a point in
the first quarter of any game so far this year,
and they had never actually led a game at any
point this year.

Speaker 3 (01:22:40):
Did you just say in the first quarter they hadn't
scored in the first quarter? No?

Speaker 2 (01:22:44):
Zero.

Speaker 3 (01:22:45):
I thought it was just the opening drive that they
hadn't been able to get points on the board.

Speaker 2 (01:22:48):
Zero.

Speaker 1 (01:22:49):
Oh, oh they were.

Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
They were last in the Big Ten and both offense
and defense. What are there sixteen schools in the Big
ten eighteen, I have a loose kal teams there are yeah,
the last and both they have lost their offensive coordinated
at the beginning of the week. So Jerry new Heissu,
who has been on the side, he's been all a
tight ends coach, he's been. He's a legacy. You know,

(01:23:12):
his dad obviously is a diehard Bruin, you know, as
a player, later as a head coach, and Jerry, you know,
there was a backup quarterback engineered, by the way, an
amazing comeback once when he was quarterback at UCL He's
always a wildly popular guard Tyler Hunt. But he's been
nothing more. He's been a tight end coach, been a
wide receiver, not even a quarterback coach. And he was

(01:23:32):
just they said, figure out a game plan and by
the way, playing Penn State, and.

Speaker 3 (01:23:36):
He said, challenge accepted. What could possibly James Franklin have
said after the game? We have that.

Speaker 2 (01:23:45):
The coaches, the players in the locker room, offense, defense,
and special teams. The reality is we didn't play well
enough in all three phases to win the game. And
there's going to be a lot out there to divide, divide, divide,
and we got tune all that out and stick together. Okay, yeah,
I will say this, Yeah, a lot of divide as

(01:24:07):
in it is time to get rid of James Franklin
as the coach of Penn State. I mean, what is
Penn State looking to do? Are you looking to be
the third or fourth wheel in the Big Ten every year?
Because that's exactly what Penn State has been under James Franklin.
And they've had a lot of talent over the years,
a lot of talent. We see it on display in

(01:24:28):
the NFL. So I don't get it. I really do
not understand why they stick with James Franklin as a
head coach because he again when they lost Oregon last
week right one and eighteen in Big Ten matchups against

(01:24:48):
teams ranked in the top ten.

Speaker 3 (01:24:50):
Yeah, it's really bad because the Nittany Lions should have
feasted today.

Speaker 2 (01:24:55):
They should have feasted today. Steve de Sager had the stat,
mister Desaga, you have the stat that this is the
first time that an zero to four team has beaten
a top ten.

Speaker 9 (01:25:07):
Ranked team since nineteen eighty five.

Speaker 2 (01:25:09):
Tense, the Robbie Bosco led BYU coming off their national championship,
lost to Uten. So what We're talking a historic loss
for Penn State.

Speaker 3 (01:25:20):
Today, historic loss, a historic opportunity in the NFL, though
for maybe the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 2 (01:25:28):
Maybe could they do this in the AFC North. Well,
in the North they can't because of the Ravens have injuries,
Burrows out for the Begels, and the Browns are a mess.
It's so they absolutely can do it.

Speaker 3 (01:25:41):
It's crazy, though that they are in this situation because
never did I anticipate coming into Week five that the
Steelers would be at the top of the AFC North
at three and one with the win over the Vikings.
Now was overseas, and I think logic goes out the
window when it comes to an overseas game.

Speaker 2 (01:25:59):
I truly believe that.

Speaker 3 (01:26:00):
But it seems as though this might not just be
a season for the Steelers that they stay above five hundred.

Speaker 2 (01:26:07):
If you wonder how it is that Mike Tomlin, after
all these years, has still never had a losing season,
It's very simple. They win games they're supposed to win.
That is simple. I mean, not all of them, but
overwhelmingly if you trace back to Mike Tomlin years with Pittsburgh,

(01:26:27):
in games that they should win, they do win. Ironically,
up until today, that was James Franklin as well. Exactly,
James Franklin wins enough of those you know, unranked team games,
this could be the death now. I mean he's talking
about they're going to try to divide us. You know
why You're going to divide it because of you and

(01:26:48):
you're ineptitude as a coach to not get your team
ready to play an awful UCLA team. So as good
as UJLA was today, it doesn't take away from what
we've seen all season long. Such a weird dynamic. Can
you imagine if you're a Penn State you just had
the whiteout game? Right every game you play there in

(01:27:08):
Happy Valley, one hundred thousand plus the Rose Bowl was empty.
I mean they announced thirty eight thousand. No, it barely
looked like there were twenty thousand people at the Rose
Bowl today. So that whole dynamic must be weird. If
you're a Penn State team, you run out the historic

(01:27:28):
Rose Bowl and there is it's underwhelming. Nobody.

Speaker 3 (01:27:31):
Yeah there, Well they were underwhelming, so it ties into it.
But the NFC North is just such an interesting in
such an interesting situation right now. If you're the Ravens
Lamar Jackson with a hamstring injury that you know can linger.
When you know that he is so important to your offense,
do you hold him back? Do you sit him out

(01:27:54):
as long as possible, or do you put him out
there to try and win the division?

Speaker 2 (01:27:58):
Because the division is still up for ground. I don't
think the Steeler is gonna run away with the division
mont Se No, They're not gonna be on some role here.
I mean they're gonna you know, they'll win a few
more games than they lose if the Ravens. We don't
want to take any chances with a hamstring. You need
that hamstring to be one hundred percent ready to go,
not eighty percent nine percent before he gets back out

(01:28:19):
on the field. You're not gonna lose that much ground
to the Steelers in that division. But that being said,
I mean the Ravens should be better prepared because every
time that he has been out of line up, the
record speaks for itself. Absolutely. Their their offense completely evaporates
and they lose twice as many games as they win
when Lamar Jackson is not in at quarterbacks. It's amazing

(01:28:42):
to me they haven't done more to solve that backup
quarterback situation, not just that, but done more to fix
right the defense and the secondary.

Speaker 3 (01:28:51):
After the way they started last year the worst ever
ever last year, and then they ended much much better?

Speaker 2 (01:28:57):
How did we take five steps back again? All Right,
I'm gonna I look at him, you know what I mean.
I'm gonna be a little bit of a hypocrite here
in one sense because ultimately you are which your record
says you are, and I'm one hundred percent believer in that.
Sean McVay just said it after the forty nine ers. Yeah,

(01:29:17):
we could be five and zero. We'th three and two.
That's what we are. Yeah, you could make an arm man.
We could have beaten the Eagles. We could have won
this game. We didn't. We're three and two. We're not
five and zero. That being said, John Harbad to me
is an interesting dynamic. He won a Super Bowl, he did,
but with Lamar Jackson as his quarterback. He Yeah, he

(01:29:39):
had a ten and five playoff wrecker with Joe Flacco.
He has a three and five playoff wrecker with Lamar Jackson.
And honestly, some of his coaching decisions over the last
few years. The way they'd handled. Their game plan for
that AFC Championship game against the Chiefs was preposterous. That
was one of the worst game plans ever. Hey, why
don't we have Lamar Jackson try to match Patrick Mahomes

(01:29:59):
throw throw? Who comes up with that kind of concept
in a game that was a one score game throughout.
Wasn't like they were trailing where we got to throw
the ball, and yet that's exactly what they were doing.
So he to me, he's had a lot of questionable
decisions coaching decisions in recent years, and he's just one
of those guys that seems to fly to Well, you
won a super Bowl. Yeah, that's what they said about

(01:30:20):
Mike mccarth He won a Super Bowl. I'm like, okay,
that was a long time ago that he won a
super Bowl. That was that was the twenty twelfth season.

Speaker 3 (01:30:31):
It's tough to not want to look at Harbaugh and
put most of the blame pie on him.

Speaker 2 (01:30:38):
It's hard to not I agree with you because this
whole thing with.

Speaker 3 (01:30:41):
The defense is the one that I can't get over.
Why have you not gone and spoken to your new
defensive coordinator and been like, hey, let's adjust because it
seemed like, we worked it out last year at the
end of the season. Let's go back to what we did.
Why are we not having that conversation. Why are we
just letting things kind of Oh, it's fine, we'll figure

(01:31:01):
it out. No, no, no, no, you did figure it
out last year by the end of the season. Why
are we back to square one?

Speaker 2 (01:31:06):
This is white and buy into the Ravens. I mean
a lot of people say, well, if it's not going
to be the Chiefs, who is going to be Ravens?
Ravens Ravens Lamar Jackson. Before this injury against the Chiefs,
look at the numbers. I mean, he still has these
incredibly glowing numbers. But then we get into the postseason,
we're seeing a completely different game. Is that all Lamar Jackson?
That's the question.

Speaker 6 (01:31:27):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (01:31:27):
Is it on John Harbaugh and his coaching staff not
doing what they need to do to prepare properly to
take on the elite teams in the AFC. This is
why I'm leaning to the Bill Looking. I'm not a
huge Buffalo Bills fan. I like Josh Allen a lot,
especially on a personal level. I think he's a great guy.
And then when he's made himself out to be in
the NFL. The reason I like the Bills is because

(01:31:50):
of that division they play in. They played if you
look at the rest of the AFC, right division. Yeah,
so do you believe your Chargers are right now the
second best team in the AFC. I'm not gonna lie.

Speaker 3 (01:31:58):
This last game of the Argers really left me with
the bad taste in my mouth after having such high hopes.
I'm hoping it was just one bad game of Like
you guys got a little bit sad of losing Joe
Alt and that's why you let this one slip.

Speaker 2 (01:32:13):
Because they just looked bad. They looked bad. Yeah, this
past week they did not look like the complete team
that Jackson Dark came out Beatzam. I mean, they really
beat themselves. They really beat themselves. But that's what the
Chargers have done in the past. Well, you know, I've
been telling you of this forever, and I've been around

(01:32:34):
that Charge organization forever. You know, I talk about this,
I understand the dynamic. When I first got started at
the legendary six ninety So here we have this new
the first all sports station on the West Coast. It's
nineteen ninety and I get hired on to this station
to do something and never been done before in the

(01:32:55):
West Coast, do a midday sports show. I remember thinking
of the time, what guys are listening to radio in
the middle of the day, aren't they at work? I mean,
you know, there's no Internet, nothing like that at that time, right.
But the problem was I was only two years removed
from being the media relations director of the Raiders, and
the station was the Charger flagship, and so Dean Spanos,

(01:33:17):
whose father was still alive and running the team, Dean
was just basically carrying his dad's bags, but one of
his son's duties was to constantly complain to management at
this flagship on why did you hire a Raider employee
on the Charger flagship station, especially when he's ripping us

(01:33:38):
on the air, And I was ripping him because they sucked.

Speaker 1 (01:33:41):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
So I have had this long, long history with Dean Spanos,
and I can't help but think every time it seems
like this organization takes a step forward, something happens for
them to take a step back. It is the Spanos curse.
It is the Dean Spanos curse. How else can you
explain the team losing both of their offensive tackles.

Speaker 3 (01:34:04):
No, I can't explain it. I really can't. And it
does seem like they are cursed. All the teams I
follow are cursed except the Dodgers. But it's time to
get into some picks here, mister Hartman. We know how
much you love picks, and Roddy, our producer, will guide
us through this.

Speaker 7 (01:34:22):
That is correct, I will. And just to update you
guys from last week scores, Yes, tell me how many
I'm winning by Monsey. You actually went one in four
last week, weakest, my worst week, weakest, one in four.

Speaker 2 (01:34:35):
Yeah, that was my worst week. She already went as well.
Where she's going head to ahead against me? Yeah right,
you know that's that's a killer. So was your record
against me? It was like insane, Like, yeah, no, I
just couldn't.

Speaker 3 (01:34:48):
I couldn't win by more because you kept adding different
rules to our game, and then I still would win.

Speaker 2 (01:34:54):
How did Martin do last week? Martin went three and two,
so you're definitely still in the lead. I'm still in
the lead.

Speaker 7 (01:34:59):
Yeah, Okay, next week I'll compile all the scores and
give you guys. All right, all right, all right, five
weeks update. But week five, let's get into it. So
let's start with this Broncos at Eagles. Philly's favored by
three and a half points. Who you got, Monci, it's.

Speaker 3 (01:35:13):
Just against the spread that we're picking here. By the way, listen,
this is one.

Speaker 2 (01:35:19):
That I have circled as a possible upset.

Speaker 3 (01:35:24):
I am going to take the Broncos to cover against
the Eagles.

Speaker 1 (01:35:30):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (01:35:31):
I'm back. I am making that pick on TV tonight,
so I have to make I have to make late
night TV picks. And they asked me about that game,
and I said, I'm going to pick the Broncos straight
up to beat the Eagles. Eagles are due for a loss.

Speaker 3 (01:35:44):
They are due for a loss. That's exactly it. And
Broncos can do it with their defense and the way
they can do it.

Speaker 1 (01:35:50):
Go all right.

Speaker 7 (01:35:52):
Next up, the Texans going to Baltimore to face the Ravens.

Speaker 2 (01:35:56):
Guys.

Speaker 7 (01:35:56):
Both teams are one and four. The Texans are actually
favored in this game point and a half as the
away team. Well, no, Lamar Jackson, No, Lamar Jackson's actually
a very good point.

Speaker 2 (01:36:05):
Yeah, no, Lamar Jacksons right there. No a bunch of
other players on the rails. I think the spread's not
bigger in that.

Speaker 3 (01:36:10):
That's I actually am a little bit surprised as well,
but it just goes to show that the Texans have
also not proved anything so far this season. But I'm
taking the Texans to cover.

Speaker 2 (01:36:21):
Well. Think about this. We just saw the Chiefs roll
it up against that Ravens defense. Yeah, the Texans have
had no offense all year long. You're settling in to
cee CJ. Stroud wake up against that Ravens defense. I
love the Texans in this game. Yeah, come on, give
it to you go Collins. My fantasy football team needs
it mine too, all right.

Speaker 7 (01:36:40):
Next up the Tampa Bay Buccaneers going to Seattle to
take on the Seahawks. The Seahawks are the home team
favored by three and a half points.

Speaker 2 (01:36:47):
You got.

Speaker 3 (01:36:48):
I love that you have mentioned all the ones I
have circled as games that are intriguing to me. And
I know, I know, I feel like I just have
a soft spot for Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers. I
just I think they're a really good team, and I
know the Seahawks have had a good start to the season.
I'm taking the Buccaneers here to.

Speaker 2 (01:37:08):
Cover the spread. I'm not East goes to West Coast.
These cost country trips can be a pain, and Seattle's
playing pretty well right now. Sam Darnold seems pretty comfortable
in that offense three and a half. It's interesting you
get the extra hook there when you're normally a three
point favorite at home. I would take the Seahawks here.

Speaker 7 (01:37:30):
Next up an AFC East showdown here, the New England
Patriots are going up to Buffalo to face the Bills.
The Bills are actually favored by eight and a half
points here. Pretty big spread, and that's what you're picking
against against the spread. So what do you guys think here?
Manci who you got?

Speaker 3 (01:37:45):
Yeah, I think the Bills are gonna win this one,
but I think the Patriots will make it interesting.

Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
So I think New England covers the spread on this.
The Bills struggled against the Saints and did not cover
and did not cover, Yeah, did not cover against the Saints.

Speaker 1 (01:37:58):
I agree with you.

Speaker 2 (01:37:59):
I think New England's much better right now. Drake May
is becoming a little more comfortable. He doesn't seem to
be in panic mode as a young quarterback. So yeah,
I don't think the Bills are all that dynamic ad
and it has a lot of the NFL games. Yes,
division game, I would agree, So I'll take the Pats
to cover, all right.

Speaker 7 (01:38:18):
Last one here for you guys, the Washington Commanders taking
on Monsi's Charger. The Chargers are favored by two and
a half points. What do you think, Monsie?

Speaker 2 (01:38:26):
Do they get it? Can he go first? I could
think about this, So let's let's think about this. Where
is this game again? Remind me it's my stadium. Yeah
it is, and they're only two and a half point favorites.
Think about that for a moment, yere. So, the Commanders
get Jaden Daniels back, which is a huge bonus obviously
for them. But you know what, I think it's a

(01:38:49):
bounce back game. I think Jim Harbaugh, being the coach
that he is and one of the absolute best coaches
at any level he relish, is coming out that loss
of the Giants gives. He gives them a sort of
a reset with his team right now. I think they're
gonna come out focused, ready to go. I think the
Chargers win and cover.

Speaker 3 (01:39:09):
I'm glad he said that and that I wasn't just
you know, being a fan here of the Chargers. I
also think it's a bounce back win, and I see
LA winning it with the field goal at the end there,
and that would mean they cover.

Speaker 2 (01:39:21):
So I'm taking the Chargers to cover and win it
with the field goal. By the way, right, my best
man in my wedding was a bookie, Okay, so I
really follow the lines. I don't bet, not on anything,
as you know, and so he always was notorious. He
sees three and a half, right, You're like, I'm gonna
take the dog, right yeah. Or you see two and

(01:39:42):
a half, I'm gonna take the favorite. Sure, and then
you actually see how those play out, like seven and
a half, I'm gonna take the underdog, six and a half,
I'm gonna take the favorite. Their sucker lines. But still
I'm ignoring that. I still like the Chargers in this game.
But if you play those lines, the two w a half,
three and a half, six and a half, seven and
a half, and you go, oh, I'm going to get

(01:40:03):
you know, a touchdown, I'll win the game. Be careful.
That's all I'm gonna say. That sounds logical, and I
don't like logical.

Speaker 6 (01:40:09):
I know.

Speaker 2 (01:40:09):
I'm just saying I would be remiss if I didn't
say that, because I did follow it there, but speaking
of dogs, oh so good. His face was like, what
is happening? Such a long intro, but it's so good.

Speaker 1 (01:40:23):
I love it.

Speaker 7 (01:40:23):
You got it?

Speaker 2 (01:40:24):
What are we doing?

Speaker 1 (01:40:25):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (01:40:26):
But just to update you last week, Monsei, you're atomic
dog from week four actually hit. You had the Steelers
over the Vikings, and that did happen right, Martins did not?
He had Titans over Texans and that Titans didn't even
get a single point on the boards, did.

Speaker 2 (01:40:39):
Not get a single board up. Yeah, but what do
you think this week? As you're an outright underdog winner.

Speaker 3 (01:40:44):
My outright underdog winner, and there are a few I'm
not gonna lie that I am feeling right, but.

Speaker 2 (01:40:56):
I am going to take the Giants to upset the
Saints in New Orleans. New Orleans is favorite to win. Why,
I don't know. They are favored. They are favored to
win at home? What yep? I don't understand. I mean,
I put it this way. The Saints did look certainly
better than anyone thought they would look in that game
against Bills. But to be favored against anybody, favored against anyone,

(01:41:21):
is the real question.

Speaker 3 (01:41:22):
And I do think the Giants are on a high
right now, Like after what just happened beating the Chargers,
Jackson Dart ended up having one touchdown in the air
one on the ground, which is something we talked about
last week if you remember, Ian, you presented that to us.
I think the Giants win another one and they cruise
past the Saints without an issue. So I'm taking the

(01:41:43):
Giants as my atomic underdog.

Speaker 2 (01:41:47):
I tell you my dynamic underdog. Seven and a half
point dogs. The Raiders on the road against the Colts. Wow.
As bad as Gino Smith has been so far this year. Yes,
and Jenty finally broke through with a performance that as
I expect this guy to be a dominant running back
in this league. I think the Raiders game plan is

(01:42:08):
going to change. I think they're going to be able
to run the ball. And I'm sorry, Daniel Jones is
not going to continue on being a candidate. Don't tell me.
So I'm going to go the Raiders as a seven
and a half point dog to win straight up up
in Indy. I I don't again again, what has fucking dog?
There's my dog? He pulls up. He's so cute.

Speaker 3 (01:42:32):
No, no, no, no, You're absolutely crazy to think that
Geno Smith and the Raiders can pull off that sort
of upset you, cuckoo bird, if you would have said
that they just cover the spread.

Speaker 2 (01:42:44):
I mean, when Pete Carroll's finally going to wake up
and realize I got to actually start winning games if
I want to remain a coach in the NFL. No, no, no,
kucko bird. Cuckoo bird in write that down in your notes.

Speaker 3 (01:42:57):
But once he said kucko bird, because that's not gonna happen,
but I can't.

Speaker 2 (01:43:00):
Wait to see it.

Speaker 3 (01:43:02):
Now October baseball is happening, and Steve de Seger in
about six eight minutes, we'll have an update for us.
But if you've seen that red Ostrich logo on professional
baseball's postseason helmets this season, that's Straws family owned since
nineteen forty eight and trusted by pros worldwide. Pants built
like tools, durabil comfortable and engineered to perform.

Speaker 2 (01:43:22):
From grit to glory. Gear up now at strass dot com.
That's Strass s t r a USS dot com. On
the other side of it.

Speaker 3 (01:43:31):
Some Saturday standouts in today's college football.

Speaker 2 (01:43:35):
So don't go anywhere as we dive into that. He
is Steve Hartman.

Speaker 3 (01:43:38):
I am Manci Bologos and this is Fox Football Saturday,
Fox Football Saturday.

Speaker 2 (01:43:45):
What's up everybody?

Speaker 3 (01:43:46):
I am Monti Bologos and he is Steve Hartman reunited
and it feels so good.

Speaker 2 (01:43:53):
It does indeed, Wow, we're back into rhythm right now.
What are we gonna do it again?

Speaker 6 (01:43:58):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:43:58):
I would imagine now Martin gonna have a lot of weddings.
He's gonna have a lot of weddings.

Speaker 3 (01:44:02):
So you'll be an enemy to every time You're gonna
have to talk KTLA.

Speaker 2 (01:44:06):
I'm always Actually it's a good time for me because
through the football season, I do television on Saturday nights.
We only have late shows. Oh, so it works out.
I go from here to TV. I don't have anything
until a couple hours after the show. What a nice
little Saturday for you. It is perfect. I love that.

Speaker 1 (01:44:23):
Well.

Speaker 3 (01:44:23):
So much has happened today, starting the day off with
your Bruins.

Speaker 2 (01:44:26):
Having a mega upset, Dodgers beating the Phillies, everything else.

Speaker 3 (01:44:30):
Steve Desager's got it for us at the News. At
the news desk, Steve Desagers to Steve's I'm a sandwich
between two Steves right now.

Speaker 9 (01:44:38):
That music that you just heard, by the way, that
wasn't just Mary playing music that was actually live at
the wedding, aren't dancing in the background. And it wasn't
a UCLA mega up to upset, and it's La Times
called it. It was a a Jerry rigged upset.

Speaker 2 (01:44:53):
Wow, I'm gonna tell put that in.

Speaker 9 (01:44:57):
I'm gonna hear that tonight on the Jerry newheisl stepping
in his play caller for the offense on Tuesday. And yeah,
they have an interim coach and a new defensive coordinator,
and they'd never led in a single game this season,
and today never trailed Number seven Penn State beat then
India Lions forty two to thirty seven. UCLA's program when
facing a top ten ranked opponent had lost sixteen games

(01:45:19):
in a row until this one.

Speaker 2 (01:45:20):
Wow.

Speaker 9 (01:45:21):
The last time they had beaten a top ten opponent
at home was two thousand and seven when they shut
out Oregon. Just an amazing result. Here today, the winless
Bruins had been averaging fourteen points a game on a
schedule that, let's just say out loud, was not exactly
four Penn States. No, I don't know how this happened. Still,

(01:45:42):
and I saw all four.

Speaker 2 (01:45:43):
Courts called Jerry neuhais the greatest offensive genius ever in
the history of the game.

Speaker 9 (01:45:48):
Just the fact that they could march down the field
on the first drive. It's kind of like when you
talked about Jackson Dart starting that great first drive and
going straight down the field. It's like, Wow, we might
have something here, this might actually be a game. Sure
it was Florida at home beat number nine Texas twenty
nine twenty one Arch Manning with two touchdowns two interceptions
in defeat. Number ten Alabama beat Vanderbilt thirty to fourteen.

(01:46:11):
Cincinnati surprise Number fourteen Iowa State holding on thirty eight
to thirty. We also had wins in college football for
Oklahoma and Georgia, Michigan and Notreed Aim each one. Number
twenty two Illinois won at Purdue forty three to twenty seven.
Among the games going on tonight, number three Miami is
still leading at Florida State twenty eight to nine, ten

(01:46:33):
minutes to go. FSU has just scored and is going
for two, but the Hurricanes have dominated this one. Four
touchdown passes from Carson Beck. He's nineteen of twenty three
two hundred and thirty five yards final minutes. Number one
Ohio State at home leads forty two to three over
Minnesota two minutes left. Eleventh ranked Texas Tech leads at
Houston thirty five eleven. Each team was four and oh

(01:46:56):
and Texas A and M was down three to nothing
second quarter. At home home Mississippi State, the sixth ranked
Aggies now lead thirty one to nine with under five
minutes to go in the game. Also UNLV with under
two minutes left, trying to go to five, and oh
is holding on thirty one seventeen at Wyoming in the snow.
Colorado has tied it up at TCU on Fox TV

(01:47:17):
twenty one all with about ten minutes left five minutes
to goo. Kansas leads at UCF twenty seven to twenty
about to start Duke at Cal Among the late games,
we had a plenty of games that I mentioned, but
I failed to mention. In the ACC. Number twenty four,
Virginia had an overtime game at Louisville and wound up

(01:47:40):
winning thirty to twenty seven. Also in conference, Pitt beat
up Boston College forty eight to seven, BC to three.
In the ACC, Wake Forest won at Virginia tech SMU
beat Syracuse Raiders. Tight End Brock Bowers is questionable with
the knee injury for tomorrow, trending toward not playing at Indy,
according to NFL now Work, and tight end Michael Mayer

(01:48:01):
is out with a concussion. To Major League Baseball, the
late playoff game is on FS one right now, and
the Mariners have retied it two to two bottom of
the sixth against Detroit. Julia Rodriguez, who had an earlier
solo homer, has an RBI single to even it up.
Detroit got its two on a home run from Kerry Carpenter.
Number one seed Toronto in the American League beat the

(01:48:23):
Yankees ten to one in a game that was two
to one in the seventh. Milwaukee's the number one overall
seed Brewers, beat the Cubs nine to three. That was
a nine to one lead in the second inning. In fact,
in the first two innings of this game in Milwaukee,
the Brewers had nine runs and ten hits, easily the
highest marks by any team in their first two innings

(01:48:44):
played in a single playoff run in the history of
Major League Baseball. The Dodgers were comeback winners at Philadelphia,
impressively tonight five three, three run homer in the seventh
from Teoscar Hernandez in the top of the six key
k Hernandez had hit a two run double to save
Duroki societ and this gives a win to show hey Otani,
who had nine strikeouts on the mound in six innings

(01:49:05):
of work. Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies went zero for
four with three k's. Game two of the best of
five is not until Monday, and we all remember that
how the Dodgers finished last season was a five nothing
comeback at Yankee Stadium in the clinching game. Turns out,
until that game, in all of the Dodgers long postseason history,

(01:49:26):
in a road postseason game when they were down three
or more, their record was.

Speaker 2 (01:49:30):
One and sixty. Wow.

Speaker 9 (01:49:32):
And now twice in two years they've had such comebacks
in playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:49:37):
Are you feeling the possibility of the Dodgers becoming the
first team in twenty five years to win back to
back World So.

Speaker 9 (01:49:45):
The possibility I'm feeling at the moment is simply advancing
because they don't have to rely on all the relievers
that we saw in the past.

Speaker 2 (01:49:52):
Four they did. If they get last year last year,
the Dodgers set the record for winning World Series, averaging
the US innings per start over the course of the postseason.

Speaker 9 (01:50:03):
They didn't have a rotation.

Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
They have to get six plus innings out of these starters,
and so far they've been able to do that.

Speaker 9 (01:50:10):
Nearly every out was recorded by a starting pitcher. Tonight,
Yessia got the only out from an actual reliever that
was bases loaded in the eighth. This is kind of
what Washington did in twenty nineteen when they could use
Strasbourg and others starters in relief. It's kind of what
the Dodgers have had to do because kind of like
the Yankees, the bullpen has been atrocious.

Speaker 2 (01:50:30):
Interesting about Glass now, now he is scheduled to start
Game four, if he did throw two full innings. The
good news in this game.

Speaker 9 (01:50:37):
They have a couple of days off between now and then,
so it's a Thursday Game four. If there's a Game
four and.

Speaker 2 (01:50:42):
It's a Thursday early game. But this is the only
game he's going to appear in until Game four.

Speaker 9 (01:50:47):
Just for the record, she's right that it might be
a three in the afternoon game on a Thursday. For sure,
it is if depending if other people get eliminated. They
might move it to four, but it's not going to
be six o'clock specific time like the fans are used to.
It's bad enough people trying to get through downtown to
a Dodger game at six instead of seven three o'clock
on Thursday. Stay tuned.

Speaker 2 (01:51:08):
Yeah, thank you so much, Steve Desager. Love having you both.

college football and nico Il Maliava led the way for

(01:51:40):
our Saturday standouts.

Speaker 2 (01:51:43):
I mean he was amazing. Goal from the three motion
to the right of the line. Iamaliava takes a designed
run cars.

Speaker 6 (01:51:51):
There's way in there.

Speaker 2 (01:51:52):
Touchdown UCLA. They've been parched for points all year. They're
cricking from a fire hose today Hello.

Speaker 3 (01:52:01):
That UCLA Bruins Audio Network. He threw one hundred and
sixty six yards two touchdowns, also had sixteen carries one
hundred and twenty.

Speaker 2 (01:52:09):
Eight yards and three touchdowns.

Speaker 3 (01:52:11):
Bruins get their first win of the season, forty two
to thirty seven over.

Speaker 2 (01:52:14):
Who over Who. Okay, I can say again, that is
a Heisman worthy performance. You're not gonna win any Heisman
on a team that's one and four, but that's what
I'm looking for. That's what we're looking for. Performance that
stands out when it's least expected. Iamalayava did that today

(01:52:34):
against Penn State. Against Penn State, another standout today. All
it's a thirteen yard line maul s. What's to throw
a Fax soldier throw and he brings it in one handed.

Speaker 1 (01:52:43):
Bell did in the corner.

Speaker 6 (01:52:45):
To twelve.

Speaker 2 (01:52:48):
ESPNTV on that one.

Speaker 3 (01:52:49):
Chris Bell, Louisville wide receiver twelve catches, one hundred and
seventy yards, two touchdowns.

Speaker 2 (01:52:57):
But Louisville made it interesting.

Speaker 3 (01:52:59):
They did lose to number twenty four Virginia thirty to
twenty seven, but Chris Bell standout.

Speaker 2 (01:53:05):
I here's airs thing about Heisman voting. You know the
quarterbacks are always going to get all the attention, and
you're always desperate, desperate define a non court now, last
year we had one two on quarterbacks of Travis Hunter
and Ashton genty. So I'm looking for somebody else, right,
give me someone who's give me somebody that could be

(01:53:25):
you know, dynamic in that win.

Speaker 3 (01:53:27):
And don't forget defense wins game. So defensive standout today.

Speaker 1 (01:53:31):
Man, he wants it all again more.

Speaker 2 (01:53:38):
Devin Moore.

Speaker 3 (01:53:40):
Devin Moore with the interception for Florida. He also had
four tackles, one sack, win, interception ESPN TV on that one.
The Gators then defeated number nine Texas twenty nine to
twenty one. Arch Manning, that's the story or is there
just no story here?

Speaker 2 (01:53:55):
Well, arch Manning, here's here's the story. Arch Manny will
be back at Texas next year. He is not coming out.
His draft stock has gone down so dramatically, and his
you know the amount of money, he's still making more
nil money than anybody else, even though he's a middle
of the pack quarterback at best one hundred percent. He'll

(01:54:16):
be back in Texas next year.

Speaker 3 (01:54:17):
It's crazy to think of the arch Manning stock house
immediately from week one I mean from the third quarter
of the first game, how itch is.

Speaker 2 (01:54:26):
Look, I watch Arch Manning, and it all comes down
to this, when you are a quarterback. Let me give
you an example. Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield is a guy
that was a two time walk on in college two times.
Two times. He was a walk on at Texas Tech
and yet started his first game as a freshman as
a walk on, and then he leaves Texas Tech to GOKDO,

(01:54:48):
Oklahoma as a walk on and ends up winning a
Heisman Trophy. But when you watch Baker Mayfield on the field,
he has a dynamic. He is a take charge guy.
He's limited in many ways physically. When I watch Arch Manning,
I'd see zero presence on the shield. There is nothing.

(01:55:11):
There's nothing about him that says I'm in control of
the situation.

Speaker 6 (01:55:16):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:55:17):
He's very mechanical, he can execute certain throws. He played
against largely overmatched competition of the high school level, and
obviously he had the Manning name, and the fact that
he sat for two full years beyond Quinn Ewers, who
was a seventh round draft pick in the NFL, should
have been an indication that maybe Arch Manning isn't all that,

(01:55:39):
and he's just not.

Speaker 3 (01:55:41):
It's crazy to accept that because I was like, I
don't believe that the Manning family would put him in
a position to phill if they didn't think he had
the talent. He's not lebron James putting out Bronie James
before he should be out there.

Speaker 2 (01:55:51):
I didn't think the Mannings would do that. But it
looks like Arch Manning is not ready. He's not. I
don't know if he's ever going to be ready. I
watch him, and you know, he actually he can run
a little bit. I will say that he can run
a little bit, but he doesn't have that presence on
a great field that great quarterbacks have.

Speaker 3 (01:56:11):

Speaker 2 (01:56:34):
Do you think you can figure that out. Do you
think we can figure that out?

Speaker 3 (01:56:37):
Because he's got the list, oh list, He's got the list,
and we're going to try to guess that next as
we wrap up the show today, he is Steve Hartman.

Speaker 2 (01:56:44):
I am Monty Bolango's and.

Speaker 3 (01:56:46):
This is Fox Football Saturday, Fox Football Saturday. Thanks for
hanging out with us the last couple of hours. I

feels that way. Thank you to the crew. Mary mac
on the ones and tunes, Thank you, girl, appreciate you.
Ian Roddy are awesome producer getting us through the show.
Can I just say this about emb and the of
course Trojan Hank that he is the fact that USC
is off this week to give UCLA the full spotlight.

(01:57:23):
I really appreciate that. Of course, full appreciation of that.
Are you ready for the Wolverines next week? I think
so okay, I think we'll be ready.

Speaker 3 (01:57:31):
And of course Steve Disager the legend over at our
news desk, keeping us updated throughout the whole day. Don't
go anywhere because Aaron Torres, Aaron Torres and Jason Martin
are up next after you and I Steve, so they
will continue the party going on this Saturday. But apparently Ian,
we've got the top what two athletes from the from

(01:57:53):
two thousand since two thousand?

Speaker 2 (01:57:55):
I mean, our own party isn't quite wrapped up. We're
not wrapped up just yet, I do.

Speaker 7 (01:57:58):
This was actually from like a year ago that ESPN
released a list of the top ten athletes since two thousand,
So this is all time athletes, but since the year
two thousand.

Speaker 2 (01:58:08):
I just want to see how many of the top
ten you guys can guess to me, the one obvious
is a guy that won the one hundred and two
hundred meters and three consecutive Olympics, saying Bolt, it's got
to be on the list, saying Bolt is number nine
on the number nine, he should be number one. He
won the one hundred and two meters and three consecutive Olympics.

(01:58:28):
Great pool there, great pool.

Speaker 3 (01:58:30):
I mean, I'm gonna guess Lebron James.

Speaker 2 (01:58:32):
Lebron James is at number four, number four, number four,
Lebron and number nine. You saying, all right, Tom Brady,
Tom Brady's number five, number five, Tom Brady. Okay, Simone Biles.

Speaker 7 (01:58:46):
Simone Biles is number seven. Okay, good job, Wow, that
was really good.

Speaker 3 (01:58:51):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:58:52):
You got who said bolt I had to come in
with another one. So this was a year ago that
this was done. So I'm going to say since two thousand,
since two thousand, cries, I'll say Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant
is number ten. There done, still there, So there's got
to be definitely some big ones you guys are missing.

Speaker 3 (01:59:12):
There's gotta be okay, okay, basic obviously air Aaron Judge,
not Aaron Judge.

Speaker 2 (01:59:19):
Actually, no baseball players, no base They don't put baseball
players on that list. They don't put hockey. All right,
I'll say, how about U Messy? Messy is number three?
Nice Neil? Okay, So Christiano Ronaldo, I believe you Ronaldo
did not make it. I believe they had him at
number Okay, that's crazy, that's crazy. There's got to be

(01:59:42):
Messi at three. We still don't even name the one
or two. Now you're still missing one and.

Speaker 7 (01:59:48):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:59:49):
How about Roger Federer. Roger Feeder is number six? What
we're still not at one and two?

Speaker 9 (01:59:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:59:57):
Serena Williams number two. Okay, number two, we number missing,
number eight and number one? Are we stupid? Are we
just stupid?

Speaker 7 (02:00:09):
There there are SI, but it's it's all time athletes,
So I don't totally blame you guys. One's an Olympian.
We're running out of time here.

Speaker 2 (02:00:15):
No, come on, say the Michael. Here's about to say
that you're

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
