Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome.
It is another Fox Football Saturday. I'm your host, Karmen Batali,
and today I have Spectrum Sports Nicky Kay with me.
Nikki Hi, how are you what up?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
It's one of my favorite type of October Saturdays. Right
World Series on deck, college football flowing up four screens.
The NBA is back. We are living, baby, I know I.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
And it's like co like the weather has dropped here
in Chicago, so now it like actually feels like fall
and it's kind of gloomy and it's kind of cold,
so you really don't feel bad about staying inside and
watching sports all day.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Listen. I'm an endless summer gal, but I did appreciate
the little uh marine layer we had here in southern
California as well.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Yeah, it's just like when the sun's out, I just
feel like you're you. You almost feel obligated to go
outside and do something like I can't let this day
go to waste and this, that and the other. But
like clouds and any sort of cold weather or whatever
just gives you the excuse that you need to curl
up with the We we are sat, we are sat,
and I hope you're sat listening to us. I hope

(01:13):
you are somewhere cozy, hanging out listening watching some football yourself.

And we're gonna get into it. But during the MLB postseason,
Strauss made history as the first brand ever on the
helmets where built to perform smart pocket design, real comfort
and durability from grit to glory. Gear up today at
Strauss dot com, that is st r a Uss dot com.
Need to we really, really really need to get into

(01:58):
this World Series. U.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
I was gonna say, let's let's talk about the World Series. Uh,
and how Game one went. I mean, I don't think
anybody in LA wants to rehash it, But all of
a sudden I looked up and the Blue Jay has
had eleven runs on the board.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
So listen. Yeah, I've been boots on the ground here
in LA. I was in the locker or the sorry
clubhouse with the Dodgers when they wanted all in New
York last year. It was one of my favorite career
moments for sure. Yeah yeah, and everything this is a
this is you know, the franchise in LA. I mean,

(02:37):
I'd say Lakers won Dodgers too, but just the loyalty
and excitement when the Dodgers are doing well, there's there's
nothing better. And and this postseason run has been relatively
absent of adversity for the Dodgers. You know, they they
kind of middled their way through the regular season, had

(02:58):
a bunch of injuries in their uh starting rotation, and
then everyone got right. Their dominant pitching has been on
full display this this October and then wow seven a
week of rest, going up against a Blue Jays team
that was stretched uh to seven in the ALCS, And
boy were the Dodgers playing on their heels last night.

(03:21):
And you know it's so funny. Carmen I was driving
and listening to you know, a promo kind of calling
coward and saying, like the the Dodgers are the restaurant
that even with the with the broken ice cream machine,
people are still gonna come up it doesn't matter. But
we saw the broken ice cream machine last night and
it was the Dodgers' bullpen, and uh, guess what, Nobody
came to the restaurant because the ice cream wasn't working.

(03:43):
Like that's that's basically I'm sorry, like that if you
don't have pictures to come in if you're your starter.
And Blake's now and he's been absolutely lights out his
past two outings, he didn't he didn't have it last night.
We're talking, we're talking about this in the kitchen. Here
is the blue Jay's gone after his curveball, which is

(04:05):
normally his signature, a signature pitch, and you know, one
hundred pitches through six innings and the release. Yeah, believers,
just relievers couldn't couldn't step up.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
It's so interesting to me to kind of see, yeah,
because the Daughters, you know, they win the NLCS handedly,
you know, sweep them. That's it. They get a week
of rest, and everybody kind of is trained to think, well, rest,
rest is good, especially now you know it's the end
of the season. It's a long season, it's a long postseason,
and you're finally here and you get some chances to
kind of rest up, get right all that other stuff,

(04:39):
and then you see the Blue Jays come in. You know,
they went down zero and two in their series to
the Mariners, and they fight back. They've gone through a
lot of adversity this postseason. Yeah, and then they go
right into the World Series and they come out guns blazing,
and you're like, is rest really a good thing? I
think that's It's a very interesting I know, And you know,

(05:01):
it works both ways too, right, Some teams come out flat,
some teams don't, and it really is needed. But I mean,
I think, you know, after having all that time off,
the Dodgers just need a little bit to get back
into it. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Well, here's the interesting thing too, because last postseason, you know,
and the Dodgers had had a couple of you know,
the early exits prior to last year that were really disappointing.
And last year they had the week off before the NLDS,
and Max Munsey was very adamant that they used that
time to like just be boys and commit to eight

(05:34):
hours at the ballpark every day. They took treated it
like camp basically and really bought into one another. And
that was kind of the signifying you know, I guess
cohesion glue that brought that team together and made them,
you know, so resilient. But and then so then you
look at a week off this this postseason, what's that
going to mean? And on the other side of the coin,

(05:56):
I read this. This is the fifth time in World
Series history a team coming off a sweep is playing
a team that was stretched to seven games, and in
the previous four times the team that was stretched won
the series, which is wow, quite a you know, quite
a nod to I guess the concept of momentum in
the sport baseball. They're so random and it is crazy,

(06:18):
but I love it postseason, postseason baseball.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
There's nothing like it there is it, Because I mean
it condenses everything about the season into you know, these
these series, which are you know, they're still long, they're
you know, the seven game series for championship and and
Championship series and for the World Series, and it's you
have some kind of time to get right, but I
don't know, it's I like, I momentum is still even

(06:44):
though there's their longer series, Like, yeah, momentum can really
carry you. So it'll be very interesting to see this
next game. I could see this kind of going kind
of a back and forth type deal where maybe the
like the Dodgers, is going to have to steal one
in Toronto, I think to make it compare additive early
and I like, I don't know, I'm gonna I if
the if the Blue Jays and uh, you know, going

(07:06):
up to nothing, it's gonna be right.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
I was really I was really impressed by the I
haven't watched a lot of Toronto Blue Jays baseball this season,
but I was really impressed by their quality at bats.
And you know, it's it's something that you have to
have the the foresight, like you know, bases loaded, I

(07:29):
think it was one out, Yeah, it was bases loaded,
one out for the Dodgers, and Andy Potters doesn't take
the walk right, and it's just like you gotta have
you gotta play smarter than that. So it's it wasn't
just the pitching. I mean, smell, Yeah, he gave up
the two run homer, but and and didn't last quite

(07:50):
as long as he wanted to, and the exit didn't
set up the relievers, uh in a in a great,
great position to take over. But I just think that
the team wasn't in sync and their wins throughout this
postseason have been very complimentary, scrappy when needed to be.
So I am very interested to see how the Dodgers

(08:13):
come out and respond tonight.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Yeah. Well, I mean, if the Blue Jays keep this up,
you know, we get a different World Series champion. And
I think parody is good in any sport totally. I
want to talk about since this is Fox Football Saturday,
I want to talk about the parody in the NFL.
And before we get into the actual kind of philosophical

(08:36):
parts about parody, I want to talk about teams that
were totally sure are good. I want to talk about
teams that you're actually confident in, Nikki, because I struggled
to come up with teams that don't have an asterisk
for me. So as an example, like I believe that
the Lions are a good team wholeheartedly. I think that
you know, the coach coaching, like Dan Campbell deserves Coach

(08:59):
of the Year. He like he went up against Kevin
O'Connell and what Kevin O'Connell did last year, and Kevin
O'Connell have ultimately won that award, But what Dan Campbell
has been able to do, you know, year in and
year out since he got there and get this organization
to buy in and survive the attrition that they had
in their coaching ranks. This year, they dropped their first
game of the season and then don't look back after that.

(09:22):
But the asterisk is, I don't know who's playing for
the Lions in their secondary right now because they keep
getting injured. And this has been their achilles heel for
the last couple of years, where it's been injuries that
have just compounded at the wrong points of the season.
And I'm wondering, Like I wholeheartedly believe in the in

(09:42):
the Detroit Lions as a unit. As a team, I
think their scheme is good. I think their players are talented,
but can those players stay on the field? And that's
what I don't know. So, like, I'm confident the Lions
are good, But am I confident in them reaching the
super Bowl? No?

Speaker 2 (09:59):
See, Okay, I took this. I took this question of
what teams are good in the NFL as through a
different prism, right Like I looked at it as like
who who could I see in the Super Bowl and
why as opposed to who who could make the Super Bowl?
But what's their biggest weakness. Right, Does that make sense?
Because I think, yeah, well that's a.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
Good way to approach. It's like, who do I think
is going to end up in the super Bowl? Right right? Well?

Speaker 2 (10:24):
On one hand, I mean I think this is so
chalk of me, but I think the Chiefs are like, yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
They back that I'm confident. Yeah, that I'm confident in
because of all the stuff that we've seen up until
this point.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Right right, I mean last game thirty one, nothing you
got Worthy Brown and Rice back, the defense put on
a clinic and like they for all the doubt that
came their way early in the season. I mean, you
want to talk about like a franchise that has the
merit and any ground to stand on, It's it's that one.

(10:57):
So I kind of you know, all right?

Speaker 3 (11:01):
Is it?

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Is it like taking the easy route for me to
say the Chiefs are good? I mean a couple of
weeks ago, it wouldn't have been right.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Right, Well, No, And I don't think it's taking the
easy way out, because there is it's so hard to
see like who we actually have confidence in for the
reasons I just outlined with the Lions, I think the
Chiefs are up there because we have so much proof
of concept, right, like, even when things haven't gone their
way early in the season, even when they've had some
really legitimate concerns, Like I think back to a couple

(11:32):
of years ago when they won the Super Bowl. That
regular season, Patrick Mahomes suffered the most drops by his
receivers of any quarterback in the league, and they still
go out and win the Super Bowl. So you can
never actually count the Chiefs out, and they proved that
over and over again. So I think I believe in
the Chiefs too, because just because I haven't seen them actually,
you know, not make it to the Super Bowl in

(11:53):
the last few years. And then my other team was
the Buffalo Bills because I'm confident they're a good team,
but they're not even leading their debate right now. It's
the New England Patriots, which I said that earlier in
the or before the season started, where I was like,
I really think that the Patriots can make some noise
this year. I loved Drake May. Drake May was my
favorite quarterback coming out of that class two years ago,

(12:16):
and I was so scared for him when he went
in halfway through the season last year for the Patriots
because their offensive line had just been terrible, and I
was so scared that they were going to get him
hurt and that was going to affect his development. But
it all worked out. I think last year was the
best thing it could have happened for Drake May. And
now he's come back and he has a very competent
team around him. He's got a very competent stable head

(12:39):
coach in Mike Frable, who was just born to be
the new England Patriots head coach. And but like, at
the end of the day, I also know that the
Buffalo Bills are a good team and I have faith
that they'll figure it out because again I've seen proof
of concept, but they haven't gotten over the hump either,
the hump being like the rest of the competition in

(12:59):
the A. And I'm like, if they can't hold on
to their own division, should I really have that much
confidence in them? I don't know. There's, like I said,
there are asterisks to every single one of these teams,
and I'm like, yeah, I'm confident they're a good team.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Okay, So I'm gonna go a little stretch stretch here.
I'm I'm going to buy stock on by property rather
on Colt's Island and I'm just I'm confident that India
is a good team. And I know you mentioned you
know a previous Coach of the Year candidate. I think
Shane Steichen might be mid season Coach of the Year

(13:35):
and Jonathan Taylor breakouts, I mean season MVP worthy campaign
he's putting on and they've gotten ninety four point differential,
which is the NFL's best. You know, it's it's just
like I and also just the story around that franchise
and everything with Erses passing like and seeing his daughter

(13:57):
on the sidelines, I just have really bought in. I'm
drinking the Colts kool aid.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
I mean, put a woman in charge and something happens.
That's all I have to say. No, I'm with you though,
because it is top to bottom. This Colts team is
really really good. And that starts with Daniel Jones, who Okay,
I have this really random take on Daniel Jones. Hit me.
I think people would take him a lot more seriously
if you just went by Dan. If it was Dan Jones,

(14:23):
does the Dan Jones just like sound more like a
guy that just like whips the ball around the field
and like there's no scientific basis for this whatsoever. It's
just what I hear and when I hear. When I
hear Daniel Jones, I think of like a little fifth
grader that's like, oh, Dames Daniel, not Dan, you know
what I mean, Like I need Dan Jones.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Yeah, Dan Jones, or keep it to Indiana Jones or.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Yes, exactly Indiana Jones. Which you know, there's so many
things that you can do with his name too. For this,
I mean, at this point in the season, you cannot
ignore it, like he is top three and most major
passing metrics that you want your quarterback to we top three,
and and like he's and he's consistent week in and
week out. And it's so much of that, though, is
because of the support of the run game with Jonathan

(15:08):
Taylor looking like the Jonathan Taylor from three four years ago,
and what we like living up to that capability that
that Colts offensive line has been phenomenal, and then the
defense has really like it just top to bottom. I'm
you're right, I'm convinced that the Colts are a good
team too. We don't have a lot of proof of
concept there though, Right it's the exact opposite of what
we're talking about with the Lions, with the Chiefs rather.

(15:30):
I hope it keeps up. I think it will keep
up because again, like it just everything is lining up,
everything on paper is lining up in what you see
on the field.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
And they've got the like mojo around them too.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
They do. They do like they're like, especially for being
a smaller market team. They're just like, no, we're swaggy,
and I'm like, yes, yes you are. Holy holy crap.
I'm really excited to talk a little bit more about
the NFL. And there's one game in particular that I
cannot wait to talk more about because it is Aaron
and it is the Green Bay Packers facing off for

(16:03):
the first time. The one team that Aaron Rodgers has
not beaten are the Green Bay Packers, and he's gonna
have the chance to do that this Sunday night. I'm
so excited. We're gonna get a little bit more into
that right after this. You're listening to Fox Football Saturday.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Welcome back in to Fox Football Saturday. I'm your host,
Karen Batally. I have Nikki Ka with me today and
we're talking. We talked quite a bit because it deserved it.
The World Series, the hurting that the Blue Jays put
on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Yeah, I mean, hey, Dodgers

(17:22):
should be awake now. Good god. We're talking some more
football teams that like we have confidence in, but like
realizing that there's not a whole lot.

Speaker 5 (17:35):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
I know, I enjoy it though I enjoyed the unknown.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
I do too, And I think we're getting so many different,
so many things that are different than maybe what we
expected coming into this season. And we're going to get
into some of that because I think that there were
some clear like I thought the AFC North and the
NFC North we're gonna be the toughest divisions. I was right
about one of them, right. The AFC North, uh through
injury or otherwise, has become completely topsy turvy, but it's

(18:05):
made for of like a lot more interesting storyline copeing
compelling storylines. There we go, and if you miss any
of today's compelling show, you'll want to catch the podcast.
Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcast.
Right after the show, today's podcast will be posted. Thanks
to our amazing producers. Be sure to follow the podcast
rate at five stars, and you can even provide a review. Again,

(18:26):
just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts,
and you'll find today's full show posted right after we
get off the air. And so one of those surprises
within the AFC North is that the Pittsburgh Steelers are
leading it. I think we thought this was the Raven's division,
maybe the Bengals division if Joe Burrow stayed healthy. Joe
Burrow has not stayed healthy. Turns out Lamar Jackson hasn't

(18:47):
stayed healthy either, and so between these catastrophic injuries for
some of the you know what, we thought were going
to be the powerhouse teams of this league. It's the
Pittsburgh Steelers that have risen to prominence, the Aaron Rodgers
led Pittsburgh Steelers, in fact. And everything is on the
line for this game, culminating when Aaron Rodgers finally gets
to play his former team in the Green Bay Packers.

(19:08):
He was supposed to with the Jets, he was injured.
Didn't happen. Now he will get to face off against
the team Aaron Rodgers has beat thirty one to the
thirty two teams in this league. He's been in it
long enough. The Green Bay Packers are the last team
to check off, and the Steelers are on top of
their division. Like I said, the Packers are on top
of the NFC North, which is I think the hardest

(19:29):
division in football or the toughest, and they're also on
top of the NFC thanks to Matt Lafleur playing for
a tie, which I can't believe I'm saying, because I'm
so vehemently against playing for ties. I would so much
rather like I would be the Dan Campbell, I would
be the Mic Brabel. I would be the ones just
like no, we're going for it. I would rather lose

(19:50):
than tie, you know, which is easier for me to say,
because like, there are real implications to having that win percentage,
and the Green Bay Packers are finding that out right now.
They were one of two only two one loss teams
in the league and they happen to have a tie
on their record, but it puts them at the top
of the NFC. And so this is all like, not

(20:12):
only is Aaron Rodgers going to play his former team,
and not only is his former team going to play
their former quarterback, but these two teams have everything to
play for. You couldn't make this more dramatic if you
tried a less. Of course, I think it was at Lambeau.
I kind of I wish this was at Lambeau well,
because I think that that would just well complete, complete
everything you could.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
You could, you could put that on your wish list.
But there is an added element with with Green Bay
in Pittsburgh because the Packers haven't won in Pittsburgh in
fifty five years, so Bart star right, So Jordan Love
could do what Rogers and Farv never could, and that's
when in Pittsburgh. So there and on the Rogers element

(20:53):
he'd be the fifth starting quarterback ever to actually beat
all thirty two teams. So, I mean, it's kind of
cool the history and the intersecting paths on the line
in this matchup.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
It very much feels like, all right, is the torch
going to be passed officially or is the veteran old
dude going to retain some of that I don't know,
like retain his crown, retain It really feels like something
out of like Game of Thrones. Maybe that's because when
I covered Aaron Rodgers, he was really into wearing cloaks
at the time.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
Oh okay, and that teas up perfectly my next question
for you. So you covered Aaron Rodgers, you know his mannerisms,
the way he presents and delivers information, take it or
leave it. I do think you know, he enjoys the
media cycle that he can create sometimes.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
Oh yeah, love the yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
And so I obviously read you know he's saying he's
going to retire a packer. But when he says, you know,
I don't have any animosity towards the organization. Obviously, I
wish that things have been better in our last year there,
but I have a great relationship with a lot of
people in that organization, you know. An he went on
to talk about growing up there, spending eight teen years there.

(22:01):
Are you buying it? Do you think he's got a
little bit of a grudge in him still?

Speaker 1 (22:06):
He absolutely has a grudge. Aaron Rodgers is famous for
holding grudges. He is, absolutely, he's so salty. And there
they did not end well for him, even though the
writing was on the wall, because he talked about you know,
he knew the writing was on the wall when they
drafted Jordan and this, that and the other, but he
hung on for three more seasons while Jordan rode the
bench yep. And I like, he absolutely thought that he

(22:27):
could overcome that. And like all the proof you need
is that he had two of his MVP seasons in
that time period after the right, So that's like he
absolutely wanted to show them that it would be a
mistake to move on from him, and then they did
it anyway, And that was I mean, like he talked
like there were so many conflicting things that he said.
I mean, if you listened to this man talk for

(22:48):
more than thirty seconds at a time, he will say
something to contradict himself, and I'd like, trust me, as
someone who had to watch every Macabee appearance that he had,
who had to sit in the press conferences listening to him,
I was like I would make mental tallies of like, well,
you just said that, yeah, because and then and then
you said this, which is the opposite of the thing
you just said that, you know, thirty seconds ago. Sosolutely,

(23:12):
this absolutely means everything to Aaron Rodgers to go and
beat his former team. And I mean, these guys are competitors,
and so no matter what the situation is, never ever
believe a single one of them when they say it's
just another game when there is this much context and
this much stuff built up around it, whether that's I mean,
we saw it even with the Bears playing the Saints,

(23:33):
which was just like a nothing game on a national level,
but Dennis Allen was playing his former team, the team
that fired him, and they kept saying throughout the week, Oh,
it's it's just a it's just another game. It's just
another game. You know who got the game ball, the
one and only game ball after that win was Dennis Allen. Yep,
So like I don't want to hear this is just

(23:53):
another game for anybody, and then especially when you add
in just the intrigue and the drama and the grand
standing that comes with Aaron Rodgers. I mean, he absolutely
wants to beat these guys and right back around, I mean,
I him and Jordan Love seem to actually have a
really good relationship, but I do think that like they're

(24:14):
like they're not from a from a human standpoint, They
have no animosity towards each other, but I think Jordan
Love absolutely wants to kind of shake the rest of
Aaron Rodgers off and be like, no, this is my
team now and we're not pining for you, we don't
need you anymore, all that stuff. So I really I'm
very interested to see how this goes because I think
that this could be a major passing the torch game.
Like if Jordan Loves goes in there and lights the

(24:36):
Pittsburgh defense on fire, like that is just like it's
gonna be incredible to witness. And then on on the
other side of it, though, if Aaron Rodgers goes in
and he plays like twenty fourteen, Aaron Rodgers, I like
being passed the torch is not being passed, and he's
saying no, like I just it's gonna I either way.

(24:57):
Either way this ends up, it's going to be so
dramatic and we're gonna keep talk about it for weeks.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
I love it. I this is This is what makes
me intrigued in games that you know I wouldn't necessarily like.
It's the storylines like this. It's the head to head
matchups between two narratives.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
Right, and so in the NFL is our best reality show, right,
I am fully that is that is I say it
all the time. The NFL is our best reality show
that we have. Uh and with that, we have some
fun stuff going on in college football? Why don't we
find out about it? From Martin Wiz.

Speaker 6 (25:38):
I'll tell you it's Daniel Jones may not swing it,
but DJ jonesult.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
Oh see, that's even better than Dan Jones.

Speaker 6 (25:46):
DJ Jones sounds like a guy third and passer rating
in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
That's so true.

Speaker 6 (25:52):
Yeah, So you know I'm not trying to steal your
thune to you later, No, No, I just I.

Speaker 1 (25:56):
Just don't think like Daniel Jones is like the guy
that like corrects you just like say his full name
and you're just like, no, nobody likes that guy.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
Daniel Jones is a CPA.

Speaker 6 (26:05):
I yes, Honestly, when I hear Daniel Jones, I think
of the Workaholics, Catherine Zeta Jones, but it doesn't.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
Quite cool Man Jones is awesome, but I don't.

Speaker 6 (26:16):
But I don't know if that's what I should be
thinking when I'm watching, like, you know, second and seven,
but top fifteen matchup in the ICEC Missouri in Vanderbille,
scoreless right now, seven to fifteen left in the first half.
Missouri with the ball and Bopabuelah looks like.

Speaker 7 (26:30):
He's about to know he's going to go down at
the one yard line.

Speaker 6 (26:33):
There's a flag on the play though, as he was
just about to score a touchdown with Levenman's left in
the first half. V YU eleventh rainth Cougar's undefeated ay
tril Iowa State seventeen to seven with like Levenman's left
in the first half, six fifteen in the second quarter,
Washington with a fourteen to ten lead over twenty three
in Illinois. Illinois coming back in this game, they actually

(26:56):
trailed fourteen to three.

Speaker 7 (26:57):
I would just scored the touchdown.

Speaker 6 (26:59):
This thirty one went to nothing against Minnesota twelve minutes
left in the first half.

Speaker 7 (27:03):
Thanks for coming out, Golden Gophers.

Speaker 6 (27:05):
Elsewhere in college football, in Alabama and South Carolina and
Crimson tie with a seventh to three lead over the game.
Cox fourth rank in Alabama fourteen minutes left in the
second quarter. There Texas and Mississippi State the twenty second
rank Longhorns leads seven to nothing. Early in the first
we saw Indiana be Ucla fifty six to six. Georgia

(27:28):
Tech remains unbeaten. Date beat Syracuse forty one to sixteen.
Old miss beat Oklahoma. It gives Oklahoma's second loss thirty
four to twenty six. Virginia survives North Carolina in overtime.
Two point conversion attempt seventeen to sixteen would have gave
Bill Belichick his first win and conference play. Lamar Jackson
won't play against the Bears. He's got a hamstring. It's

(27:49):
his third straight game out. Tyrod Taylor ruled out. Justin
Fields will start the game for the Jets against the Bengals.
Nobody tell Woody Johnson the Cowboys have played places. Trayvon
Diggs on I are home this the next four games,
and Kirk Cousins expected to start for the Falcons as
Michael Pennic suffered a bone bruise in his left kneed.

Speaker 7 (28:07):
Farman, Nikki back to you guys, Thank.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
You Martin, and now we're gonna get to our first
guest of the day, a man that has called his
fair share of drama NFL on Fox MLB on Fox Chicago,
Bulls play by play announcer and world renowned DJ Adam.
I mean, Adam, how are.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
You like every time you add like one extra completely untrue,
like additional adjective to it, those great.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
It's not it's not no, no, it's all true. How
many different places have you DJ'ed?

Speaker 5 (28:40):
Adam, like four or five, but not around the world,
just around our wonderful or wonderful United States.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
They get whatever, whatever, it's fine. You're multi talented, Adam.
That's what I'm getting at when.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
You're talking about the calling of or Adam being able
to call fair share of drama? What was what was
this game, Adam that you called and your emotion was
captured on video? I forget like it was like a
camera at the broadcast table.

Speaker 5 (29:10):
That might have been the final four. Yes, in twenty eighteen,
the women's.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
Final four, Men's Final four, the Erique Goumbualle. Correct. Indeed, yeah,
that's what it was.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
That's what I was introduced to your game, and I
was like, this man needs to be calling more games
and low.

Speaker 5 (29:26):
No hole here we are now a lot of games. Yeah,
so whatever you manifest that it's come true, Nikki, I
appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
But I mean the one that has permanently made it
into my actual vocabulary lexicon was the Josh Giddy halfpoint
shot for the Chicago Bulls and a game winner where
you just go probable, impossible, And now I say improbable
and impossible at like every mundane thing in my life.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Sounds like I'll be saying that for the next seven days.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
It's incredible. But Adam, you are in Charlotte right now,
you are about to call the Panthers game. Give us
an idea of what now that the bull season is
in full swing and everything, give us a give us
a rundown of what your week has been like.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
I mean, the season just got going on Wednesday. They
played the Pistons on Wednesday night. They had had a
victory in a season opener for the first time in
four years.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
K sports up.

Speaker 5 (30:24):
So it's already the trajectory is on its way up
right now, but a lot of the week is just
dedicated to getting ready for the NBA season because that's
the first game of the year. So there's a lot
more that goes into it, just general team preparation and
around the league stuff. What are the rule changes, things
of that nature. Obviously you prepped the opposing team, and

(30:44):
then you know in the last few days you have
to pivot pretty quickly to get back into the NFL flow.
It's it's been fortunate in the sense of preparation reasons
that we had Carolina two weeks ago when they knocked
off Dallas, so you know the turnaround for that is
relatively quick. And then I haven't called the Buffalo Bills

(31:04):
game in five years. I think the last Bills game
I called was the first of their now five consecutive
division title clinching clinchers. We called a game against when
they're on the road in Denver in twenty twenty at
an empty stadium where they clinch the first of what
is now five straight titles. So it's been a while
since I've seen the Bills. And Josh Allen and Sean McDermott,

(31:25):
there's a bunch of homecomings with a lot of Buffalo
Bills used to play for Carolina coming into tomorrow's game
for the first time against their old team. So I
had a lot of new stuff to turn around in
the last couple of days. But sure enough, we'll be
ready to go once so one o'clock rolls around tomorrow
will get kicked off.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
Adam, it feels so. I don't know. It's always just
interesting this time of year, right because you have the
World Series, football is king, and yes, the NBA is
back and it's really exciting. But it is interesting that
we get a what seems to be a movie plot

(32:05):
dropped in our laps with this gambling scandal and what
DJ is calling Operation Royal Flush in the like, just
on the tail end of a season kickoff that's also
bringing in new broadcast partnerships. And I mean, with someone

(32:25):
who's ingrained in the NBA as yourself, what do you
make of it?

Speaker 5 (32:29):
Disappointing obviously, but I guess it's not shocking that at
some point something like this would take place. And there's
just by sheer volume of people involved in sports across
the board, and obviously the NFL has had more crackdowns
in the last couple of years, and they've had more
suspensions obviously since they instituted their policy. The NBA has

(32:51):
seemingly had a policy for quite some time, and especially
something like we're seeing on two different fronts, you know,
from Chauncey billups with you know, the kind of the
these mafia connections supposedly and illegal poker games or whatever
they're discussing right now, Terry Rozier, who this probe has
been kind of going on over the last year now,

(33:13):
and it's obviously disappointing, but it's not all that shocking.
It's more prevalent now obviously anything with sports betting. That's
not surprising that there have been issues across the board
in sports. At one point in Major League Baseball, there
was a thought that Pat Holberg, an umpire who is
for the most part considered to be one of the
better and more accurate umpires, at least behind home played

(33:35):
in Major League Baseball, there is alleged incidents of him
working with a friend of his to place bets on games.
I am not shocked that this is starting to pop
up as sports betting in general becomes more and more
prevalent and has become more and more prevalent over the
last few years.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
And real quick, just what do you think is the
responsibility then of the leagues who are taking money from
these gambling companies but then turning around and telling their players, hey,
you have to adhere to these really strict gambling rules,
Like what is the lead? What are the responsibilities of
the leagues to kind of keep those those two things
separate and to somehow draw that line.

Speaker 5 (34:15):
At some point you're basically going to have to say
if you bet on this sport or involved in any
type of betting on the sport the way it was
with I mean, Pete Rose is probably the most prevalent
American sports example, at least that I can think of
right now. You know, at least in the last hundred years.
If you go back beyond that, you're looking at the
you know, the Black Scott Black Sacks of scandal in
the late nineteen tens. So you have to go a

(34:37):
pretty far away back to get it to that level
when guys were throwing the World Series. But Pete Rose
bet on baseball. And if you're a player that's involved
in the NBA, a coach that's involved in the NBA,
and you're betting on your own sport that may require
the most extreme possible punishment, which would be a lifetime ban,
and that if we get to that point, I won't

(34:59):
be shocked if at some point you're forced to do that,
because you're kind of working out of both sides of
the ledger here. You don't want this to be a
part of your game if at all possible, but you're
happy to take the money from you know, sports betting companies.
And again, I'm not telling anybody what's right or wrong.
This is pure capitalism that at its quote unquote finest

(35:24):
right now, So I'm not going to tell somebody what
they can and can't do. But if it becomes a
problem within your own league and the integrity of your
own league is starting to be compromised, which was the
case at least that was deemed by various Hall of
Fame boards over the years about Pete Rose, then a
lifetime band might end up being the very first punishment,
and maybe a zero tolerance policy. I don't know what's

(35:46):
going to end up being the deterrent, but it's going
to have to be something that affects a player's opportunity
and financial future enough to where you're completely turned off
from turning to amiling to use any Whether it's the
further fuel of your financial desires, I'm not sure what,
but you may get to that point at some point.

Speaker 1 (36:08):
Yeah, it's it's it's messy to say the least. But
that's why I love you, Adam, because you can talk
through us through all of this, you know, some more
serious and then I know, bring it all the way
back a century ago. Really appreciate you joining us, Adam.
Have so much fun at the game. Calling your first
Bills game in five years. It sounds like it's going
to be a lot of fun. Thanks again for coming

(36:29):
on you.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
We love you, Adam.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
All right, you guys, we have the dudes and the
don'ts of the week coming up next year listening to
Fox Football Saturday. Welcome back into Fox Football Saturday. I'm
your host, Carmen Batally. I have Nikki Kay with me today.
We are Rihanna with us. She's always with me in spirit.
I try to embody Rihanna whenever I possibly do. Thanks.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
You know you guys, You guys have the aura. I
feel it.

Speaker 1 (36:58):
Uh probably nice thing anybody's ever said to me.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
I got you.

Speaker 1 (37:03):
I I want to keep talking about what we were
talking about with Adam, and I'm going to incorporate it
into this next segment because it deserves a little bit
more discussion. And with that, we're going to get to
the dues and the don'ts of the week.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
High putting a spotlight.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
On the don't the subject brings me no joy.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
Don't that that's insane.

Speaker 3 (37:25):
It's time for the dues and the don'ts in sports.

Speaker 1 (37:28):
Okay, So, as promised, I'm going to start this off, Nikki,
don't with a don't. Don't be surprised when players and
coaches gamble with your league full of gambling sponsorships. I
mean there were there was coverage of this on major networks. Yes,
and then there's like the gambling company's sponsor or. In

(37:52):
this case, it was part of the network. Uh like
the little.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
Ticker at the bottom, you know what I had one
it was it was do read the room because Kevin Garnett,
who is affiliated with one of these scandals, he had
a scheduled tweet It appears yesterday and it was giving
out his prize picks.

Speaker 1 (38:17):
I mean, it's everywhere, like it is ubiquitous in this
industry now, like gambling and sports are just like they
are inevitably tied together. They are inextricably tied together now
because and I just I mean, I don't I don't
know what the answer is because we're so far gone
at this point, because there's so much money that is

(38:39):
exchanging hands with the leagues. I mean they're with with
like the mergers of all of these different networks, and
some of these networks having their own betting companies. I
might like the the NFL now owns part of ESPN,
and ESPN has ESPN bet How does that work?

Speaker 2 (39:00):
And then there's literally fandual mic flags for these regional
sports networks doing sideline interviews like it's it's all entrenched,
it's everywhere.

Speaker 1 (39:11):
It is, and like especially when I mean illegal poker
rings are illegal poker rings and you have mob.

Speaker 2 (39:17):
Ties and that sounds sick actually, like we're.

Speaker 1 (39:20):
Getting We're also getting all these like old school crimes
coming out, which honestly, I love the n I'm trying.
I'm trying to have a Frank Sinatra winner.

Speaker 2 (39:29):
Bring yeah, bring back real labor. You know, a I
could never a crime a broom never.

Speaker 1 (39:38):
You have a jewelry heist with the lure. You have
now like an illegal poker ring that like involved some
really high profile people that's apparently tied to the mafia, like.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
Some old school crime. Really bringing us all together.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
Here seriously, I mean, is that what we need? We
need to go like I want to go back analog
to everything, and so maybe like like I want my
I want my crime to be analog to it is
what is what I'm getting out news.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
I'm so into consuming every every loose piece of information
that comes out. I saw a photo of the detective
on the scene looking like a real, real Sherlock Holmes
detective love it said, this isn't a bit.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
No wait, hey, you have to go full full on
when it comes to that kind of stuff. No, but
like I mean, there's such a larger conversation we had
about sports leagues and vetting companies that have given the
money to these guys. It's it's all insane. It's all
a mess. But we've got more coming for you. We
share after this. You're listening to Fox Football Saturday, Box

(40:39):
Football Saturday. It's metally and spectrum of sports is Nikki
k We've talked to MLB or talking NBA gambling scandal
and of course we've talked football, We've got more for
you this hour. You're the best period. Yappin. Yappers are Yappin'
and uh that yap continues on this network on pre

(41:01):
on the weekends for the best pregame show every weekend.
In fact, be sure to tune into Fox Sports Radios
Countdown to Kickoff presented by bet MGM, which is yeah,
oh I hear I hear it, I hear it. Every
Saturday and Sunday morning, we will count you down to
all the biggest games for three hours right up until kickoff.
For all the best plays and up to the second
injury news. Tune into Countdown to kick it offf presented

(41:22):
by bet MGM, every Saturday and Sunday morning right here
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app, which is
just very app for what we were just talking about,
and how Sports Gambling Company it's everywhere. It's it's literally
ubiquitous in this league. But in that on that vein,
I want to talk a little bit more about what
we're about to see for week eight coming up. I

(41:47):
can't believe we're in weekend already. Uh, but there's a
couple of games I want to get to and the
first one may not be the biggest one as far
as like a national kind of intrigue. But some stuff
has just broken in about Lamar Jackson and how he
was designated in the Ravens practice reports, more specifically the

(42:09):
one on Friday where he was listed as a full participant. Initially,
it comes out that he was running scout team, which
per NFL rules, requires a limited designation. So the Ravens
have now issued a statement. This literally just happened thirty
five minutes ago. Statement from the Baltimore Ravens Lamar Jackson

(42:31):
was present for and participated fully in our entire Friday
practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Bears. Upon further
evaluation today and after conferring with the league office, because
Lamar didn't take starter reps in practice, we updated our
report to reflect his practice participation. That is essentially lying
by omission. If Lamar Jackson ran scout team, that is

(42:55):
not at all the same as Lamar like hearing Lamar
Jackson as a full participant in practice, that leads you
to think that Lamar Jackson is going to play well today.
He was downgraded to out and he is not going
to play against the Chicago Bears tomorrow on Sunday, Like
you have now, I get that there is a gamesmanship element.
You want to keep as much information as you can
close to the best. If you're the Baltimore Ravens, this

(43:16):
is also a home game, and you probably wanted people
to you wanted to put butts in seats, but you
cannot circumvent the rules in order to do that. I
was in the Bears locker room this week and talking
to players about just how you prep for uncertainty, especially
at the quarterback position. And not only that, but all right,

(43:36):
if Lamar Jackson can't go, you have two potential backups
in Cooper Rushian and Tyler Snowpuntley. Snoop Huntley and Cooper
rush are vastly different quarterbacks and therefore, like preparations for
them why they're very different, and they're very different from
obviously preparing for Lamar Jackson. But this is this, this

(44:00):
is an issue with the Baltimore Ravens kind of being
purposely obtuse or ambiguous, it's probably a better way to
describe it. With Lamar Jackson's like practice participation and for
those that don't know, when you cover a team and
you go to practice every day, you're only allowed media
is only allowed to be out there for about twenty minutes.

Speaker 2 (44:21):
Yeah, the viewing period is very limited. And you're also
normally conveniently positioned across the field, across.

Speaker 1 (44:29):
The field, across the way. It can't see a whole lot. Yeah,
and you are like, most all of that is just
individual drills, maybe some special teams. That's all the team
activity that you get to see in the regular season
because access has been so limited. So you wouldn't know
that Lamar Jackson was starting on scout team in that
case because you wouldn't have seen any of the actual

(44:51):
team work or any of the team drills that are
team periods that happen in practice. So this is going
to be very interesting. Now Lamar Jackson can't go, it
sounds like Tyler Huntley is going to snoop. Untley is
going to get the start. I he his game is
probably the most similar to Lamar, I mean, much more
than Couperuscious is. So you're kind of in prepping for

(45:13):
a dual threat, you know, mobile quarterback. That's what the
Bears have tried to do. The Bears also just announced
that their cornerback Kyler Gordon has been put on I
placed on IR after just returning this last week. He
now will go on IR for four weeks. So they're
going to be down with their defense a little bit,

(45:34):
going against what should be kind of hopefully, I mean,
the Ravens are going to try to get something going,
but without Lamar.

Speaker 2 (45:41):
I mean, I mean and big picture question like I know,
obviously you like you feel for the opponent of this week,
but talking about what this means for the Ravens as
a whole, is there Sea, I mean, are they done
like four game losing streak. This was supposed to maybe
be a get right it's week eight, Like I.

Speaker 1 (46:00):
I mean, the Bears are riding a four game win
streak right now, so first since twenty eighteen, and they
look to be I mean, they're not playing well though
I need to add that disclaimer, but they're winning. But
they're not playing well. They're just finding ways to win.
But with a team like the Ravens that is down
with so many different injuries across the board, I mean,

(46:21):
they left they lost Justin Madabeyue on the interier of
that defensive line earlier in the season that has just
proved to be really hard to make up four defensively,
and then you now have Lamar Jackson out and yeah,
I mean, I don't know. The teams don't come back
from one to six. So I'm like, yeah, I think

(46:43):
we're out on the Ravens at this point, because like
if it's not in the AFC North, like if the
competition isn't there in the AFC North, it's it's certainly
there and the rest of the AFC when you know,
we're talking about the Chiefs, we're talking about the Bills,
we're talking about the Broncos, were talking about the Colts,
like we're talking about all these AFC teams where the

(47:04):
top of this conference is very convoluted, and I just
don't know how the Ravens make up enough ground even
when Lamar Jackson comes back after going down one in six.
I think the most you could hope for is something
like nine to eight. But how far is that really
going to get you in the AFC?

Speaker 6 (47:22):
Yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (47:25):
It is interesting, Like you said, first, first and foremost,
the layer of you know, deceit is kind of too
strong of a word, but Lamar on on scout team
and then to learn that he's out another week, and
when is this Ravens team going to get right? And
it doesn't feel like it's going to be this season.

Speaker 1 (47:46):
No. I mean, I don't think there's anything like you
know now, I think you're you're starting to look at all, right.
Is there are the trade dead deadline implications that's coming up?
Does this have any implication on John Harbaugh's job. I mean,
he's been with the Ravens for eighteen seasons. I think
he's only had two losing seasons.

Speaker 2 (48:04):
In that span, and I think that might be I mean,
I don't think it seats hot yet, is it?

Speaker 1 (48:09):
That's my question? I don't know. Is it after like
how this season has just fallen spectacularly to pieces in
so many different ways too. I mean there's there's I
don't know, there's like probably a conversation to be had there.
I don't know if it should be hot, but will
it be? I mean, this is a results driven league,
we know that. And I mean the Bears have granted,

(48:34):
like you know, I love the direction that they're going
under Ben Johnson. I think that he has them going
in the right direction. He's building something in Chicago that
hasn't been seen there since I was a teenager, as
far as just kind of the grit and the toughness
of a team and trying to you know, make them resilient.
And they've shown that over the course of the start
of the season. They went down, you know, lost their

(48:55):
first two games, and now they've come roaring back. But
it's still see.

Speaker 2 (49:00):
Him stop the run.

Speaker 1 (49:01):
I need oh yeah, run. Oh No. Like I said,
the Bears are not playing good football right now, not
like I love that the run game has gotten going
and it seems like the offensive line is doing their
job in run blocking. They're getting better in pass protection.
Caleb is taking far less sacks than he was last year,
but he's still holding the ball a little too long.
He's still missing some you know, like he's got some
accuracy issues when you're talking about especially down the field,

(49:24):
which he's virtually not even trying, and then even some
of the short stuff like he's not seeing. You need
him to kind of get better at that. And then defensively,
the takeaways are masking a lot, which you'll take that
every day of the week. Honestly, if you can get
takeaways and give your offense more chances, that's always good.
And their pass rush is slowly but surely kind of

(49:44):
coming up, but so much of that has depended on
getting everybody back in that front seven in particular, and
Kyler Gordon is one of those guys where like he was,
he's a guy that you can bring in on a
Nigol blitz. He's a guy that likes to get his
hands dirty in the pass rush, and he is good
against the run as well, and some of those run fits.
So that's not going to help anything. But they do
have their linebacking, a really good linebacking Core and t J.

(50:05):
Edwards and Jamaine Edmunds. So I'm going to be very
interesting to see, like if the Bears can capitalize on this.
I'm I grew up here, so I have my trust
issues with the Chicago Bears, but I do covering this
team very closely, and you know, being there at least
once a week. I really like what Ben Johnson's done there.

(50:26):
It's good to hear.

Speaker 2 (50:27):
It's good to hear, like from from what you're experiencing
boots on the ground, because everything that man has been
builed to be, you know, you hope the cultural shift
is at least it's beginning, And I do I do
think wins are part of are part of what create
that that buy in, right, So it might not be pretty,

(50:48):
but and it's so funny because you say, you know,
sometimes it's the process, not the results that are the
most meaningful. But sometimes results can can help the process
solidify a little bit quicker.

Speaker 1 (50:59):
Yeah, it's that's dead on, because I really I was
trying to brace Chicago in general because I'm ever the
realist when it comes to this that I was like,
it's not gonna look good in the beginning. It's not.
It's just not like they had too much turnover. You know,
they brought in an entirely new regime. You know, new
offensive scheme, new defensive scheme, everything is new. There's a
bunch of new players, YadA, YadA, YadA, Like this is

(51:20):
going to take some time to gel and sure enough
it has. I just thought that was gonna come with
losses and it hasn't. And the fact that it hasn't
and like that, that's icing on the cake. That's gravy. Like,
I'm very happy for the Chicago Bears. I don't think
they're a good team yet. But Ben Johnson even said
it to start the season where he was like, we're
not going to play our best football until December. We'll

(51:42):
be playing our best football in December. And he's dead
on with that. I just didn't know Chicago could have
the patience to suffer through the losses, you know what
I mean, Like before they just went doom and gloom again.
And sure enough, in the beginning of the season when
they dropped those first two, so many people were like,
oh my god, we're just helpless, and like everybody was
ready to jump, and I was like, guys, you gotta
be more patient than that.

Speaker 2 (52:03):
Dare I say it, though, Bears fans are having their
cake and eating it too.

Speaker 1 (52:06):
Right now that I know, and I mean, this is
like the best possible scenario where you're still like, you're
working on things, you're improving incrementally week by week, and
you can see that tangibly in across the board, whether
it's with Caleb Williams, whether it's with the offensive line,
whether it's with the defense or the run game in particular.
But they're still stealing wins. So the fact that they've

(52:27):
they've stacked four wins here, it leaves the like, I
don't know that they have enough still again to make
noise in a division that has the Lions and the
Packers in it. But I mean, you have to feel
good if you're a Bears fan.

Speaker 2 (52:41):
Stealing winds like a heist from the loop.

Speaker 1 (52:44):
Like a heist of the loop, like the precious crown
jewels that are wins in the NFL. Look at that
full circle. Love that, all right. We didn't get we
didn't leave enough time or you know, there was too
much to talk about with that.

Speaker 2 (52:57):
Game Picture Stars organization.

Speaker 1 (53:00):
I mean I had to talk about him, man. I
spend way too much of my time there and thinking
about them not to bring them up in this and
then especially with all the Lamar Jackson and stuff. We'll
see how this goes, but we are going to talk
some more football, and we're gonna talk maybe some more
philosophical stuff about parody in the NFL. Coming up right
after this. You're listening to Fox Football Saturday. As much

(53:23):
as I hate to cut this one off, Welcome back
to Fox Football Saturday. Carmen Vitali here, I've got Nikki
Kay with me. We're hanging out. We're talking football. Yeah,
we're talking. We're talking. We're but we're also talking being bamboozled,

(53:44):
run amuck, let us stray by so many zuder people.
At this point, we have the cheating scandal, the gambling
scandal in the NBA. We find out now that the
Ravens just blatantly cheated by listing Lamar Jackson as a
full participant on from when in fact he was running
scout team and therefore should have been designated as a
limited participant as per NFL rules.

Speaker 2 (54:06):
Alas, I also woke up with hope in my heart
that these gutsy bruins would have a chance against Indiana.

Speaker 1 (54:14):
Oh boy did they not?

Speaker 2 (54:16):
They did not. But you know what, We're building something
in Westwood. That's all I can say.

Speaker 1 (54:23):
Okay, yeah, well here, And I can't take credit for
this this thought, this actually comes from Victoria Zeller on
Blue Sky, who's a really good follow if you if
you don't follow her, you should. But she's like, you know,
if this was any other team, I'd just be like
really really like you had to put the hurt and
on him that bad. But Indiana literally has to every

(54:44):
single week because like they have to fight against the
notion that they're not that like they're not actually that good, right,
or that they don't deserve the designation of best football
team in the country right now because they do. Like
last year, like you know, they came out of nowhere,
and I was like, oh, this is such a fun story.
Like I think people thought that they would kind of
regress back to the mean somewhat this year because now

(55:04):
people know to watch out fro him and they are
dominating like that. They they are playing big boy ball
right now. And but like they kind of have to
keep throwing that in everybody's face to get them to
believe it.

Speaker 2 (55:18):
And they're not. They're not a hateable, you know, They're
not a hateable powerhouse. And I think I like it
because it's something different. I mean, I know Ohio State
is Ohio State could even be better than last year's
Ohio State. But it's really fun to have a new
name enter the group chat.

Speaker 1 (55:36):
It is and I mean Kurtzignetti is yeah, oh my god,
oh my god, like ever since last year his little
like Google me, I'm.

Speaker 2 (55:45):
Like, oh, I think Jenny Taft asked him pregame. You know,
I was locked in. I am. I'm partial to the
Jerry Neuheisel nol Mazzoni storyline at UCLA I know, I
know both of them very well and have been It's
been really fun to see them have joy in a turnaround.
And uh so, so all that being said, you know,

(56:08):
Jenny asked Sinnetti if he, you know, if there was
any concern about facing a team, you know, with with
such good positive energy or momentum, and he just looks
at her and goes, you can't. Can't play football, raid
and then just walks away.

Speaker 1 (56:24):
I was like, yep, football guy, Like yeah, so easy
to see why, you know, like he could, like he's
gonna be able to recruit with the best of them,
especially with all these results to back it up. Funny
story though, Nolazoni was our offensive coordinator at Arizona State when
I was a student assistant for them.

Speaker 2 (56:39):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, no, I mean I'm really good
friends with his kids and so Taylor, Oh yeah, well
Taylor was. Taylor was the one who kind of introduced
me to what sideline reporting was because he was the
graduate assistant when I was. I was working in the
recruit with the recruiting girls at u c l A.
Oh my god, Coach Moura and Mora brings in Mazzoni.

(57:03):
The Mazzoni's and yeah, Taylor and Grayson's one of my
best friends. And Ali I called myself the lost Mazzoni.

Speaker 1 (57:11):
Oh my god, that's hysterical. I'm going to text Taylor
and be like, we just gave you a shout out.

Speaker 2 (57:15):
Oh my god, hysterical.

Speaker 1 (57:19):
Yeah. He was an offensive like he was like either
a grad assistant or like a student assistant at Arizona State.
That's when I met him, and then we ran into
each other at the Combine and Indy last two years ago.

Speaker 2 (57:28):
You're a great family, and I was like, what are
you doing here?

Speaker 1 (57:31):
It was so much fun. All Right, that's neither here
nor there, but we are going to talk about. Okay,
so parody maybe an audixist in college football, because we
know the Ohio State's good, we know Indiana is good,
even if nobody else decides to say that that's the case.
But we're going to get into the parody of the NFL.
And before we do that, I want to give a
little shout out to the iHeartRadio app. You can stream

(57:53):
us wherever you happen to be catch us and all
of our Fox Sports Radio shows five twenty four to
seven in the New and improved iHeartRadio app just starts
Fox Sports Radio and the app to stream us live
all day, every day, and be sure to select Fox
Sports Radio as one of your presets in the iHeart app,
so we'll always pop up at the top of your screen,
just like the analog days. We're talking about. I want
analog crimes, Well, you can have your analog presets for

(58:15):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (58:16):
And yeah, and have you noticed that Red Ostrich logo
on I haven't said the word Ostrich in a long time.

Speaker 1 (58:23):
Ostrich.

Speaker 2 (58:24):
I didn't want to say Ostrich. Ostrich. Seen that Red
Ostrich logo on MLB postseason helmets. That's Strauss, trusted by
pros worldwide. Pants built like tools, durable, comfortable. Oh maybe
it was parts, built like tools parts pants.

Speaker 1 (58:40):
No, it's pants.

Speaker 2 (58:41):
Oh it's pants.

Speaker 1 (58:42):
It's hants, built.

Speaker 2 (58:43):
Like tools, durable, comfortable and engineered to perform from grit
to glory gear up at Strauss dot com s t
r a Uss dot com. Pants built like tools.

Speaker 1 (58:55):
Yeah, pants built like tools. Why not you need that
for baseball? Sure? Yeah, all right. I want to get
back to this notion of parody though, because we're talking
about it doesn't exist in college, but it exists in
the NFL pretty much more than any other year that
I can think of. It seems like any team is good.
We talked earlier in the show about what teams we

(59:16):
were confident in, what teams look like super Bowl contenders
now eight weeks into the season, which is a decent
enough sample size, and I didn't have any teams. I
feel like we didn't have any teams that there at
least wasn't one little asterisk of why we're not completely
confident in them. And if you think twenty of thirty
two teams are sitting at five hundred or better right
now in the NFL, but there's only two teams with

(59:37):
one loss, and one of them, like we talked about,
the Green Bay Packers, have a tie in their record.
So whether you like this or not, and this is
kind of bringing a full circle, probably depends on how
into gambling you are, because parody means there's a lot
more guesswork, right because you just have absolutely no idea.
But it does every like there is a new best

(59:57):
team in the league. I got on this very show
last week talking about how the Bucks, the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers were the best team in the league, and absolutely
they absolutely deserved to be talked about that way. And
then they went out on Monday Night football and the
Lions just ran all over them. And I'm like, okay,
so now the best team in the league can be beaten.
And now you're like, all right, well, the Lion's the
best team in the league. Well, they've got a lot

(01:00:18):
of injuries they're dealing with, and they look they don't
look teflawon by any stretch of the imagination. So it's like,
there is this concept of parody where we just have
absolutely no clue who is going to end up in
the super Bowl. And so often this has always been
the case. It's not always the best teams that make
it to the super Bowl. It's the ones that get
hot at the right time, healthy at the right time

(01:00:38):
that the other There's always been that element of parity,
but it just seems like this year it's been more
pronounced than ever.

Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
Right, And I like it. And I like the fact
that the Chiefs started off wobbly and having everyone questioning
if their dynasty was done and now oh watch out
here comes Kansas City. I like that Indianapolis is relevant
and Denver is a you know, a threat and the

(01:01:05):
rams like you can never count them out. And I
just I think it's really enjoyable and I think it
makes for a better product all around. Honestly I did too.

Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
I Mean, I like this is when you're talking about
the storylines and you're talking about kind of the context
around the game. I mean, it's so much more than
just the game itself, right, and like if you can
attach stories and you know, like like reasons to root
for certain teams, I mean, like the fact that anybody
can get their heartbroken, I think also kind of adds

(01:01:36):
to the camaraderie of the fan. And like, this is
why I love sports. Is why I fell in love
with sports was just like the emotion that it ilicit,
that they elicit, and just the way it brings people
together and misery loves company. Man. So like if you
can get your heart broken ripped out of your chest
every single week, and it can happen to you, it
can happen to your friend, it can happen to your mom,

(01:01:57):
it can happen to your brother, like it can happen
to anyone at any given week, because any team in
any given week can win. But it's it's really fun,
Like from an analytical standpoint, though, to try and make
sense of all of it, because it's just like, well,
the Green Bay Packers are really good, but they lost
the Browns. But how did that happen?

Speaker 2 (01:02:14):
I know, it's like then the Eagles losing to the Giants,
And I was just going to say, like, speaking of which,
it's I've totally bought into the dart and skataboo.

Speaker 1 (01:02:25):
Oh well, my son can'ts kataboo? My son? I know
Arizona stage, He's not actually my son, no, no, no, no,
but I like, but I call him my son.

Speaker 2 (01:02:36):
Like I know one New York Giants fan in my life,
but now I I'm all in on the Giants content.
I can't get enough of those two.

Speaker 1 (01:02:45):
You know, if the Giants aren't going to be reliably good,
at least let them be reliably fun, because that hasn't
been the case either for for a while now, right
like it hasn't been fun to be a Giants fan.
The Jets are still stuck in that purgatory and will
be probably for the foreseeable future. But the Giants at
least have, like you know, they're they're stealing some wins
here and there that they shouldn't be winning, and they're
doing it in a way that like is very it's

(01:03:07):
fun and Jackson Dart and Cam'skataboo are just we were
trying to come up yesterday actually with a comparison for them,
like in in pop culture. So we were like, are
they are they run and stimpy? Are they being a
Beavis and butt Head? Are they SpongeBob and Patrick?

Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
Or like what about what about a dumb and dummer?

Speaker 1 (01:03:25):
But yeah? Or are they dumb and dumber.

Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
Lloyd and what's the other one's name?

Speaker 1 (01:03:31):
Why I'm gonna show myself. I don't. I've always seen
that movie once. It's a really long time ago. I'm not,
I know.

Speaker 2 (01:03:37):
I just like the the orange and blue outfits. I
was as considering that for a possible Halloween costume.

Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
Yeah, I mean Cam's Gataboo didn't go to Arizona State
to do school. I'll just I'll just to play school.
I'll just tell you that much. And I love him
for it. He is my bowling ball of a son.
And I mean there are some wild stats too to
back those, like the performance of those two up Cam's
Gattaboo and He's forced thirty one missed tackles after taking
over the Giants backfield in Week three. This is according

(01:04:05):
to NNGS, he trails only Christian McCaffrey go and he
didn't even start playing until week three, h three hundred
and sixteen rushing yards after contact over that time frame,
which is the fourth most in the NFL. So basically,
like good luck, bringing you good. It's fantastic. I love them,
and I love it for Giants fans because if you know,
if you don't have real aspirations this year, which I

(01:04:26):
don't know, maybe you do, because like you, they're playing
the Eagles this week and again and if the could
you imagine the Giants sweep the Eagles this week?

Speaker 2 (01:04:33):
Right, slascreen day turnaround is really intriguing for this matchup.

Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
Vibes are gonna be real bad in Philly if the
Eagles don't pull this one out.

Speaker 2 (01:04:41):
So what's going on with aj Brown?

Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
It's it's the it's the it's the wide receiver tweet.
It's always the wide receiver tweet. It's like the you
know quarterback all love to God really good, like tight
end thurp and then like wide receiver the enemies like
speak softly but carries a big knife and you're just
like the there's always something with wide receivers.

Speaker 2 (01:05:01):
Yeah, broa we good, No, we're not.

Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
Okay. Yeah. I could go into the statsue about how A. J.
Brown is being targeted at like the top five clip
at this point, and like his completion percentage isn't greape
and that's not entirely his fault because the balls that
he's being thrown out catchable, but he's also not getting
enough separation. There are so many things that go into that.
But the end of the day, you got to catch
the ball.

Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
I love that You're like, I could go into it,
but what I'm not, But.

Speaker 1 (01:05:24):
I'm not because we have to bring on our guests.
But before that, we have to get to Martin Wise
in the update.

Speaker 7 (01:05:29):
Poof a bunch of EDGC matchups going on right now.

Speaker 6 (01:05:35):
Number four thrength Alabama undefeated a conference play well loss
in the year. They lead South Carolina fourteen to six
at the half. To be nearing the start of the
third quarter here Vanderbilt and Missouri. I'm sorry, just under
twelve minutes left in the third quarter. Missouria threatening, but
it's three to three right now. Both of those field
goals coming in the second quarter halftime b YU and

(01:05:56):
Iowa State. The cycle is leading twenty four to seventeen.
Drink by You, undefeated, but again trailing at the half.
Thirteen thirty left in the third quarter for Washington. In Illinois,
the Huskies with a twenty one to seventeen lead over Illinois.
Minnesota and Iowa the Hawkeyes leading thirty one to nothing
with ten minutes left in the third quarter.

Speaker 1 (01:06:18):
What's happening in Iowa City?

Speaker 7 (01:06:21):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (01:06:22):
Minnesota like thirty one points? First of all, was a
good game for Iowa. They had thirty one at half time.
That's why Minnesota currently has no points scored at all,
which is much more like Iowa's offense in general than
anywhere else.

Speaker 1 (01:06:36):
I was just gonna say, I remember when Iowa couldn't
put together like three points a game.

Speaker 7 (01:06:41):
Yeah, thirty one points. You know whatever bar had the
drink special for points scored in the Iowa game. They
are closed for business at the half.

Speaker 6 (01:06:49):
Texas and Mississippi State twenty secondary Longhorns are tied fourteen
a piece. Indiana beat UCLA earlier today Georgia Tech over Syracuse.
Both of those teams main undefeated eight and zero oh
Miss gave Oklahoma it's second lost thirty four to twenty
six for sixteenth third Virginia feeding North Carolina surviving a
two point from version attempt that was one yard short.

(01:07:12):
And Lamar Jackson will not play against the Bears with
a hamshring injury despite being listed as a folk which
has been in practice. There's been some asterisks applied to
that practice injury report at this point. Now he's gonna
miss his third a straight game.

Speaker 2 (01:07:25):
Back to you guys, Thank you Martin so a rash
Mark Casey will be joining us. But he's in the
Dave Roberts press conference right now, So that's that's exciting.
He's in Toronto.

Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
He's in Toronto.

Speaker 5 (01:07:39):
I I this.

Speaker 1 (01:07:42):
I'm very interested to get Araja's take on all of
this as well. But where're like, we're talking about just
like analog crimes and things that are happening like around
the league. And now you have the Ravens coming out
and just blatantly you heard Martin Wise say that Lamar
Jackson will not start for the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday
against the Bears. But there is I want to This

(01:08:06):
came from Courtney Cronin, who covers the Bears for ESPN.
She went and she pulled out the NFL's personnel injury
report policy to look up. All right, you know, I said,
per NFL rules like if Lamar Jackson was running scout team,
which he was on Friday, he cannot be listed as
a full participant per NFL rules. This is the actual rule.
A player who participates in individual drills but for medical reasons,

(01:08:26):
does not take his normal repetitions during the team portion
of practice and is assigned to the scout team should
be listed as limited participation. It literally explicitly states this.

Speaker 2 (01:08:36):
So they both through.

Speaker 1 (01:08:37):
So is that a fine?

Speaker 2 (01:08:38):
What what's upunished that?

Speaker 1 (01:08:39):
I don't know? So that's that's my next question is, so,
so now the league is going to be looking into this,
because apparently the league looks into any sort of changes
in player statuses on a day to day basis across
the across the league. That's that's not anything new. But this, like,
I mean, this prompted the Ravens to make a statement.
This prompted the Ravens to you know, like not all

(01:09:00):
adjust everything on the injury report and send out an email.
But they actually physically put out a statement on social
media and like it spells it out so explicitly in
the rule book, and I'm like, these rules aren't new either.
I don't know what. I don't know what the consequences
for this are, because I get that you wanted, as
the Ravens organization, you wanted to keep as much intrigue

(01:09:22):
as to who was starting for gamesmanship purposes. But you
can't blatantly lie, and you can't blatantly like you this,
this is, this is, this is, this is lying. It's deceiting,
it's it's deceitful, it's all of that kind of stuff.
And especially when like you know, to bring this full
circle when there are bets being placed and fantasy roster
is being locked in and all this other stuff like

(01:09:44):
you and and you are like subject to being covered
by a beat that that is old accurate information. I
don't I don't know what. I don't know what the
what the punishment for this is is it? Do you
forfeit a draft? Do you get fined? I do you forfeit?

Speaker 5 (01:10:04):
Like?

Speaker 1 (01:10:04):
I don't think you would forfeit a game.

Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
I think I think forfeiting a draft pick sounds pretty
heavy handed. I would be shocked if that's the if.
I mean, if it was a recurring issue, maybe, but
if this is a one off thing, it feels like
it would be a fine slap on the wrist, right.

Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
Yeah, I mean they did, like again, because they issued
the statement and eventually and cleared it up before the game.
I think that probably reduces whatever punishment happens, and that
was probably why that statement was issued. Ye was kind
of damage control. But yeah, I don't know, man, I that's.

Speaker 5 (01:10:44):
I like it.

Speaker 1 (01:10:46):
It's funny because it happened during Bear's week, and we've
been going back and forth. Even just I was talking
to my brother about it because my brother has Lama
Jackson on his fantasy team. He's like, do I start him?
And I was like, yeah, Like he was a full
participant in practice today, Like he's gonna play. You know,
they're coming off a bye week. He's right, state, it's cool,
he's fine. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
News updates as of yesterday said Lamar's likely return.

Speaker 1 (01:11:07):
Right, right, And then you wake up today to it
was and and I mean, you know, my brother's fantasy
team isn't isn't the crux of the issue.

Speaker 2 (01:11:17):
Nobody cares about your brother's No, I'm just kidding. I know,
I get it though, I get it. Yeah, hey, we
got a World Series game game two tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:11:26):
We do that like that to take us away from
all of this scandal. Let's go to baseball. Yeah, no,
and a very important one because when you go out
and you get embarrassed like that, like the Dodgers did
uh in Toronto, if you can you can you can
very quickly rectify it by stealing one in Toronto.

Speaker 2 (01:11:47):
Right and if they I always think this is so interesting,
like when you when you level it up or you
steal one on the road, then you have home field
advantage with the way this is out the two three two.

Speaker 1 (01:12:01):
Yeah, exactly what you know.

Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
And I've got a bunch of Dodger fans still texting
me Dodgers in five, which I love. That exceptionalism, I mean,
Dodger Dodgers standards are almost as I mean would merit though,
because they're actually in the postseason conversation parenally, and their
ownership has, i mean recent ownership has has reinforced that belief.

(01:12:25):
But it's almost as I was gonna say, de Lulu
as the Lakers exceptionalism.

Speaker 1 (01:12:30):
Hey, I'm I'm of the volition that.

Speaker 2 (01:12:34):
That is tru Lulu. I know, no, I'm I'm really
intrigued to see what Yoshinobu yamamotos outing will be. If
the bats are a little bit more patient, they don't
chase as much. And when I say if they don't
chase as much, there's a there's only a couple of

(01:12:55):
bats in the Dodgers lineup that I think are are letting,
letting the rhythm down when they don't recognize the moment.

Speaker 1 (01:13:02):
Yeah, I mean, the thing is like this, this Blue
Jays team has been very scrappy and they, like everybody,
thought that this was going to be a Mariner's Dodgers
World Series early on in the ALCS, and that did
not happen.

Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
They you know, like they want, you can't count these
guys out.

Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
You can't. And I think that if they take a
couple in Toronto, if they take the ones that they're
supposed to in Toronto with with that home field advantage,
it becomes exponentially harder for the Dodgers because then the
tables completely flip. And then if Toronto takes one of
them in La then you know, it's it's It seems
kind of like a rap and like you were talking about, Nikki,

(01:13:42):
this Dodgers team hasn't faced a whole lot of adversity.

Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
This season, right, It's it's been their regular season was
you know, they kind of they weren't as dominant as
we're used to seeing them. They had a lot of injuries.
They got right for fall, and the postseason has been
pretty pretty much a breeze one loss. You know, they've
been road warriors, haven't lost on the road.

Speaker 1 (01:14:06):
You have Otani putting on the best game that anybody
best baseball game that anybody has ever played in history, right,
and it's like, it's not hyperbole, right.

Speaker 2 (01:14:16):
It's not hyperbole. It's also interesting. I'm we were chatting
about this. I like, he performs brilliantly when the pressure
is not tantamount, right, So I'm I would like to
see him, you know, have have some some big numbies
when when the Dodgers really really need it from him?

Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
So hey needs numbies loving numbees. All right, Well, we
are going to go over the thing that made us
laugh the most this week on social media when we return.
Right after this, you're listening to Fox Football Saturday. Where
has this been all day? Oh my gosh, this is.

Speaker 2 (01:14:56):
This is exactly what I needed to send us off
on a Saturday.

Speaker 1 (01:15:00):
Seriously, Missy Elliott, what a classic? Always a classic?

Speaker 5 (01:15:06):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:15:07):
And the Fall Classic? You know I transitioned. Ooh oh,
I know. I want to keep talking about this because
I want to get we have for all the Major
League Baseball we've talked, for all the World Series stuff
we've talked about, Nikki, I haven't gotten what do you
think is going to happen this series between Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
And Oh my gosh, I was well, I as a professional,
I was hoping Dodgers in five. As I as someone
who covers the Dodgers, who roots, who grew up rooting
for the Dodgers. I do hope the Dodgers find a
way to win it again. It'd be awesome. I also
think it's there's a reason it's been twenty five years

(01:15:44):
since a team has repeated as World Series champions, and
their run has been pretty uh pretty smooth so far.
So this is it's very interesting to me, and I
don't I don't know, and I almost feel like I
jinx it picking it one way or the other.

Speaker 1 (01:16:01):
What do you think? Do you think? One other question
do you think did last night change anything? Yes, yes
it did.

Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
That was the recipe that the Blue Jays needed to
capitalize on. Get after the Dodgers starting pitching, get the
bullpen in the game, and then go to town. And
that's exactly what they did. And Blake Snells, I mean,
he didn't have a great outing, but he's been he's
been lights out, so seemed like a little it seemed

(01:16:30):
from afar. Obviously I wish I was in Toronto, but well, actually,
you know, covering a game like that would not have
been fun. But no, no, it seemed like he was
a little bit of it. Could be nerves. I don't know,
he just his command wasn't wasn't as great as he
wanted it to be. But you know, we'll see how

(01:16:50):
this team. This is the biggest adversity they've faced, and
how do you bounce back. I mean, even last World
Series they pulled it out Game one against the Yankees,
you know, Freddy Freeman's historic walk off Grand Slam and
then that whole that was taking care of the five games.
So the biggest, I think the biggest test this group

(01:17:11):
has faced in the last two postseasons was the Padres
in the NLDS in twenty twenty four. So yeah, I'm
very curious.

Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
What do you think? Yeah, I don't know. I mean
that was that was a statement game as far as
I'm concerned from the Blue Jays last night, and considering
that this the World Series hasn't gone to seven games
since twenty nineteen, and I feel like, and obviously it's
it's possible for the Dodgers to still win the series
and not go to seven games, but with how scrappy

(01:17:42):
the Blue Jays have been, I just don't see them,
you know, giving up without a fight and having the
Dodgers run off like four straight right here. So if
that's the case, like I just like, I don't know,
I kind of I'm leaning towards Toronto and it'd be
very ironic for a lot of reasons, right.

Speaker 2 (01:17:58):
And the thing, yeah, and the thing that's so unsettling
about when you're facing this Blue Jays team is like
you can never count out the play that gets them
back in it. Right, Like even when I was, you know,
score scoreboard checking during the Seattle's series because I couldn't

(01:18:20):
watch the game for one reason or the other. It's like, no,
even if the Mariners were up. You know, do nothing
just solves on.

Speaker 1 (01:18:27):
Note it didn't it didn't mean anything. It didn't mean anything. Well.

Speaker 2 (01:18:46):
Pants built like tools, pants.

Speaker 1 (01:18:48):
Spelt like tools. Let's get into my new favorite segment,
which is the lol moment of the week because I
need a laugh.

Speaker 2 (01:18:56):
Yeah, let's see everybody else does.

Speaker 1 (01:18:58):
Let's giggle, le's giggle a little bit. And actually mine
comes from just this morning. In fact where or no?
I think this was yesterday. This was yesterday. I'm sorry,
I don't know what it is. Cam Newton, now a
commentator a sports commentator for ESPN, appears regularly on First Take.
First Take was in Birmingham for the Alabama State Alabama
and M game, and Cam Newton decided to get into

(01:19:21):
it with the Alabama A and M mascot who knocked
his hat off of his head. Oh and Cam just
comes in with this like Haymaker and then they get
into it in a very lighthearted scuffle. But it's really
funny because it's just mascots to me are so funny
and engaging with them as like real three dimensional beings

(01:19:42):
like to it's just it's it.

Speaker 2 (01:19:44):
Is hilarious, Okay, Mine. I got the notification that the
Giants got a two hundred thousand dollars fine for violating
concussion protocol for Jackson Dart and among the fines was
Scataboo fifteen thousand dollars. I was like, what did he do?
Dude was just being dude, put his head into the tent.

Speaker 1 (01:20:02):
He was good, he was checking on his guy. He
just wanted to know. And I'm probably honestly, he was
probably being a bad influence, Like get out there, Jackson.
Like I can't imagine that Camp's Gataboo said anything other
than it's just a concussion. It's fine because God knows
how many concussions that that that man has had. Yeah,
and Brian Dable also like peeked into the tent, which

(01:20:22):
is a very big non as a head coach. But
thank you so much for joining us today. Thank you
for another Fox the Fall Saturday. We will catch you

Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
