Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Loo, come man, everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday
Air towards Jason Martin. We are broadcasting live from the
Fox Sports Radio studios. It is eleven pm Eastern time.
It is October. That means we got a lot to
talk about college football pretty much coming to a close. Uh,

(00:26):
Brian at Kelly here might be coming to a close.
We'll talk about that in a little bit. As just
goodness gracious, A and m is putting it on LSU
in Baton Rouge. Michigan is pulling away from Michigan State
twenty four to thirteen with about four minutes to go. Man,
oh Man, just a ton going on in the world

(00:46):
of college sports right now.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
But also in the world of Major League Baseball NFL.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
And by the way, we got a week week one
NBA topic and it ain't Wenby and it ain't Luka doncic.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Uh j mart Man. It's October.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
The days of grinding through three hours and not being
sure what to talk about in June and July, those
are distant.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
They are distant. And in the past. What is going on? Brother?
How you doing well?

Speaker 4 (01:11):
Everything's going on? You just let it out. I mean,
I think, yeah, we go from all right, so what's
the best way to fill this three hours? We don't
necessarily have all the A class stuff right to how
much of ho can we afford to devote to this
any because there's also that, and there's also that, and
there's also that and all these other kinds of things.

(01:32):
So it actually kind of works out because the college
football of it all. We had a lot of near
misses today, but we didn't get like all of the
giant stories. We have a few things. You already talked
about one of them. But yeah, the NBA, man, you know,
your opening week is supposed to go a little better
than this, especially when a lot of people were enjoying

(01:54):
out of the games and they've been completely overshadowed by
something else. And then yes, of course World Series Game two.
Just there's just so much going on. And I will
hold my Mexican Grand Prix takes oh to myself. But
I had to watch qualifying today and I'm looking forward

(02:15):
to the GP tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
All right, Well, you save those takes.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
I'll save those. Yes, audience that cares.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yes, I care about everything you have to say, but
what I care about specifically now World Series Game two
just went final, by the way, in in baton Rouge,
Texas A and M now up forty nine to eighteen,
a thirty one point margin.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Garrett nus Meyer's on the sideline. It's bad.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
We're gonna talk about that in a minute. But you
know what was not bad tonight? Yamamoto, the pitcher for
the Los Angeles Dodgers. Yoshinobo Yamamoto a complete game victory.
First picture since two thousand and one Kurt Shilling to
have back to back complete games in the postseason. Yamamoto

(03:03):
absolutely unbelievable in this effort. Nine innings, pitch, four hits,
one earned run, eight strikeouts, and the sagre just give
me a thumbs up. Twenty straight to end the game.
So he put down twenty straight batters to end the game. Yeah,
Dodgers tie things up one a piece. Obviously Game one

(03:24):
did not go as play and they lose eleven to four.
That big inning. What was it about the sixth inning?
I think it was the It was the nine run
sixth inning for Toronto sealed game one. But Game two
was all about Yamamoto. The series is tied back up,
coming to Los Angeles, Game three, Monday Night.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
Jamart.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Your thoughts on two games of the World Series so far, Well,
I mean.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
We have a series. You know, a lot of people
seem like they were just gonna go ahea and crown
the Dodgers before we played the thing, and I can
understand why you would go Dodgers in five, especially with
how hot they've been. But it was nice to see
it go the other way. I saw the best or
not the betting numbers, but I saw a trending deal
where forty seven of the fifty states, if you look

(04:07):
at their social media posts coming from those geographic tags
and those locations, they're rooting for Toronto. Wow. Forty seven
of fifty states. Wow. I can't remember the three. Obviously,
California is one and the other two are right there.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Nevada.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Maybe I don't think it's Nevada. I think it's like Washington.
There's like a couple. I'll trying to find it during
the break. But either way, like, it's interesting because it's
America versus Canada. But in this case, I think it's
just anybody versus the team that everybody looks at and
sees as just all these players, all these Hall of famers,

(04:46):
all this money spent, all this, you know, it's La
There's coverage everywhere all this. So I think that's actually
to the benefit of baseball here to have the Dodgers
here kind of as the villain for a large part
of the country, the same way the Yankees were in
the you know, mid to late nineties there when they
had their run, when the d Backs finally beat them
in that classic series, and as a matter of fact,

(05:07):
the one that you just referenced from two thousand and one,
everybody was a d Backs fan and it was such
a great series because of that, because you have something
to root against as much as you do, something that
you can kind of glomb on and root for if
your team is out. And I think you have that
opportunity right now with Toronto and them getting Game one

(05:27):
gives you a little hope. If they were going back
to La down two, nobody would think that this was
coming back to Toronto. But the eleven runs in Game
one gives you a little bit of hope, and I
think that's exactly what baseball needed.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
I don't disagree with that Game one.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
I think, you know, and the thing with Game one
is it was you know, nip and tuck until that
big sixth inning. As I said, I'm with you, Listen,
I think you know, I live in LA I'm not
necessarily a Dodgers fan, but but it's easy to get
swept up in it. But I think we all want
a series and I think that's what we have coming
back to Los Angeles. Let me ask you this. Obviously,

(06:05):
look it's one one. Anything could happen. We know how
good the Blue Jays were during the regular season. I
remember last year having this conversation with you, j mart
Is that.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
The you know, when we were younger.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
The Yankees of the nineties, they had so many more resources,
such a higher payroll, and it got to a point
that it did feel like everybody was rooting for anyone
who was playing the Yankees. The year it was the Marlins,
the year it was the Padres, whatever, And to the
reference to the point that you just made, it does
feel like everyone is finally rooting against the Dodgers. Do

(06:40):
you just think that that is I guess I guess
what I would say is like, when did that happen
last year?

Speaker 3 (06:45):
It felt like a feel good thing.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Otani gets by the way, I hate to change the
subject completely. They just showed a picture of Tiger Stadium.
That place is completely empty.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
Right now.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
We're gonna get back to college football in just a minute.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
But I guess the question for you, when do you
think it changed for the Dodgers, Because even with the
Dodgers this year obviously very good during the regular season
ninety three wins in the regular season, but they weren't
the best team in the regular season in the National League.
That was obviously the Brewers, And I guess it didn't
really feel like everybody kind of turned on the Dodgers

(07:17):
until they really kind of steamrolled through these playoffs obviously
not only sweeping the Brewers in the NLCS, but also
the five game series again, the four game series, excuse me,
four game series win against Philadelphia in the NLDS. It
just feels like this wasn't a thing until probably like
three to four games into the NLCS, of like, oh, yeah,

(07:41):
they had the highest payroll, they were good in the
regular season, but now they're just destroying everybody in these playoffs.
Did you get that sense as well being an outsider,
or has this been kind of brewing basically all season
long as far as everybody kind of sort of rooting
against the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
Yeah, I mean you don't necessarily from my perspective. All right,
some'm a braves fem people that listen to our show
regularly know that already. But from my perspective on the outside,
entered the season where it's like, oh, well, it's the
Dodgers and everybody else, and so when they get off
to kind of a mediocre start, you just kind of

(08:18):
when you see the box score and you see that
they lost, you just kind of chuckle and move on.
At least that that was my perspective on it. But
then when they get to the playoffs and they do
what you already assumed that they were going to do
to begin with, that drives you insane. I feel like
that drives the rest of the country insane because it's
like it's almost like you guys didn't even care during

(08:39):
the regular season because you knew you could do this.
It was the same thing with Golden State years ago.
They had a team where they were able to basically
flip the switch. I think even Kobe and Pau Gasol,
one of those Lakers teams, was accused of doing that
at one point. That infuriates fans because it's just like,
did you It's like, if you're that good and you're

(09:00):
not even gonna show out during the regular season, but
then you come and then you do everything that we
expected you to do. I think it's it's like it's
like coming back from fifty down your team, but then
still and even getting the lead and then losing by two.
It's just it drives you. Nut's like I wish you
would just boat raced everybody all year long as opposed

(09:21):
to this thing being dragged out. I think that's what
it is. I think it becomes. I think that's why
you could say it has been brewing throughout the season
because you were just kind of the Dodgers were sort
of in the rear view. You expected they would come around,
but then when they become this dominant again, that to
me is frustrating as a fan. It makes me roll
my eyes and it immediately brings me back to that

(09:43):
place of I just want to see them get knocked
down off this pedestal.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Totally fair. We're through two games. We are coming back
to Los Angeles Game three on Monday. Tyler Glassan now
getting the ball against Max Max Schurzer. Excuse me, so
that should be very interesting. I know it's easy to
again look at the force through the trees of if

(10:09):
the Dodgers go back to back, it's exhausting for every
team that isn't the Los Angeles Dodgers. But it is
worth noting Toronto Blue Jay's best record in the AL
best record. You know, I had home field advantage. Do
you feel like they can go back to Los Angeles
and make this a series, get it back to Toronto?
I think obviously the positives are this is a team

(10:30):
that's been resilient all playoffs. They obviously need to win
back to back games against Seattle in Game six and
Game seven to even advance to the World Series. I
guess what I would say is this is that to me,
I don't think this series is by any means over.
I know how good the Dodgers pitching was in the
nl Excuse me, I'm tripping over my words here in
the NLCS. I know that they obviously are the most

(10:52):
talented roster in Major League Baseball, but you know, you
have one of the most clutch players in baseball, and
George Springer, you have one of you know, the ultimate
season vet getting the ball in Game three and Max
sures there are plenty of talent between Vlad.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Guerrero Junior and all these other guys.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
I just, you know, I get the frustration for everybody
who isn't a Dodgers fan, especially with the way Yamamoto
pitched tonight, with the way things have been going for
most of these playoffs.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
I just feel like this is a far This thing
is far from over, you know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (11:21):
Yeah, I mean I think that's a good way to
feel about it. I want to believe that that is true,
just because I want to see a deep series. Even
if the Dodgers ultimately win it, I'd like for it
to go seven. I'd really like to get something dramatic
here and not just five and out or something to
that degree. I hesitate to say that. I think that's

(11:41):
what's going to happen if I don't know, if the
momentum changes for you as a home team, if you
lose that second game they got the first one, I
feel like game three is very important. If not win it,
at least that thing's got to be competitive. If the
Dodgers come out there and let's say they just have

(12:01):
a great night at the plate and they go you know,
win the thing ten to or even like the eleven
to four that we got in Game one and the reverse.
I think that kills Toronto. I don't think they can
come back from that, being in that building, with that
fan base, just the atmosphere and the way that that's
gonna play out. I think they've got to show up
in Game three because I don't think going down to

(12:23):
one with a bad performance in Game three is gonna
give them much of a chance at all.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Well, Game three is Monday night in Los Angeles for
people just joining us. The Dodgers did take Game two
in Toronto five to one. Was the final Yamamoto the
starting pitcher, first pitcher in twenty four years to have
back to back complete games in the postseason. Yoshinobu Yamamoto

(12:49):
again a complete game victory for the Los Angeles Dodgers
as the Dodgers take Game two, and now they head
back to Los Angeles along with the Blue Jays four
Game three. That'll be Monday night with Tyler Glass now
facing off against Max Scherzers, series tied at one apiece.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have won Game two of the
World Series five to one, Yoshinobu Yamamoto with the complete
game victory, first pitcher since two thousand and one to

(15:24):
have back to back complete game performances in the postseason.
Kurt Shilling, the last man to do it. We will
get back to baseball in a little bit. We gotta
go to college football though, because we have a very
noteworthy result that just happened as we went to break
here a minute.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
Ago, back to Arizona State Final.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
Arizona State did lose to Houston. We are gonna spend
the next two and a half hours breaking that down.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
Oh we will.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Yes, Kenny Dillingham, what does it mean for him? Oh,
my goodness, no, it will.

Speaker 4 (15:57):
Cam Scatibow is not coming through that.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
Yeah, Campspey Adaboo is not walking through that building. He
was at the Knicks game the other night. I saw
that though. But all right, let's do it.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Man.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
So there's two sides to this.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
So Texas A and M they were seven and oh
coming into tonight went to LSU.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Now, there were really two conversations. One, how bad LSU is?

Speaker 2 (16:21):
We talked a little bit about that last week, and
we'll certainly talk about it plenty now because the other
conversation was how good is A and M seven and oh?

Speaker 3 (16:29):
Coming in they you know, they haven't.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
Played a ton of big road games since the win
at Notre Dame in week three. Well, you talk about
a butt kicking of epic proportions in Tiger Stadium at LSU.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Final score forty nine to twenty five.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
Somehow, that score is actually deceptive because A and M
was up forty nine to I guess it would have
been eighteen. Let me do some mental math here really quick,
because LSU, let's see here, was leading eighteen to fourteen
at one point. So that would mean that if my
math is correct, Texas A and M scored thirty five

(17:14):
straight points in the second half. A meager touchdown with
the backup quarterback makes it a twenty four point margin
of victory for Texas A and M. Thirty five straight
points in the second half. We gotta give A and
M credit eight and oh for the first time since
ninety two. But the story Brian Kelly, the one hundred

(17:34):
million dollar man. LSU now five and three this season
two and three. Their wins very quickly are against Clemson
three and four, Florida three and four just fired their coach,
South Carolina three and five, Southeast Louisiana and Louisiana Tech.
The three teams that they've played with any sort of pulse,

(17:55):
they've gotten destroyed by lost to A and M tonight
lost at Vandy, lost at all, Miss LT's use a
freaking disaster.

Speaker 4 (18:02):
J Martin, Yep. And Brian Kelly's done. I'm not saying
he's done tomorrow, but he's done at the end of
the year. We saw tonight. I sent this text to you,
and you have the same thought. I think I just
hit send before you. I said, we are witnessing the
end of Brian Kelly at LSU tonight. It doesn't mean
he'll never coach again, but this is over. This experiment

(18:22):
is over. I was not watching with the sound on
to know if he was being booed at the end
or if there was anybody left to even boom.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
A lot of text.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
There's a lot of maroon in the stadium. There wasn't
much else. Yeah, yeah, I mean, look.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
The bet they've beaten nobody that matters, and they've underperformed
against every good opponent that they've played. This thing was
actually a game for a half, but in the second
half they got outclassed, out, coached, outmanned out, out, physical,
out athletic, like whatever the descriptors is. And I think
I just made up at least one word in that
last sentence, like whatever, it was a and m was

(18:58):
better not pay Brian Kelly when, by the way, there's
no outclause with him, like he's getting all of his money.
You did not pay him to get outclassed by Mike Elcho.
You just didn't. And that's what you're getting. You're not
getting any ROI and you really haven't at any point.
The team's just not very good. No, Smeier's not good

(19:19):
enough to overcome what's going on. The defense hasn't been
able to stop anybody recently. There's just nothing. It's just
a very bad situation. You called it a disaster. I
think that's accurate. It's just you can just feel the
train has sped completely off the tracks now, like there's
nothing there. There's not a way to bring this thing
back this season. I feel like he's basically dead man

(19:42):
walking as a coach and he'll be relieved as soon
as this season is over.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Yeah, you know, listen, we're in this I don't even
I don't like and we keep saying, oh, in this era.
Isn't this era though? I just think, Look, it's it's
LSU and by the way, it was Penn State, it
was Florida, like because because I think there's this notion
of like this is a different year in college football
with the portal with nil. You gotta win, and you

(20:07):
gotta win quick and there's no excuses. Dada da, I
don't know. I just know that as long as I've
been watching college football, you reach a point of no
return with a head coach, and you reach a point
of no return from the perspective of it doesn't matter
what you have to pay to get rid of someone,
it's going to cost you more if you keep that man.

(20:31):
And what I mean by that I know you know, Jamar.
But for the audience is whether it's ticket sales, whether
it's whatever, it's just if your Penn State, it's just
James Franklin isn't the guy. He's never gonna be the guy.
The fan base is never gonna believe in him. You
have to make the move because the fan base is
gonna turn and they're not gonna show up, and they're
not gonna sport the team, and they're not gonna buy tickets,
and they're not gonna buy eleven dollars beers at the stadium,

(20:52):
and they're not gonna pay one hundred dollars for parking.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
And it's just like you.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
Have to move on, and I think we were already
at that point with Brian Kelly. But get you know,
first of all, you go back to last week and
we had this conversation, and you know we were ahead
of it last week. Is I understand that Vandy's having
a historic season, and we'll talk about Vandy some point
before the end of the show, but ls you should
never lose. I don't care if Vandy has the best

(21:16):
team in school history, which they might. LSU should never
lose to Vandy. I'm sorry they shouldn't. For NFL players,
high school players like LSU is one of those places
where every expectation that a fan base could and should have,
they should have. It's a place where you should win
national championships, where you should be competing every single year.

(21:38):
There are only really a handful of jobs that you
can say that you really should be in the mix
every year. In LSU is one, and so I just
bring it up because you and I knew last week
we were having this same conversation last week. But if
there was ever any doubt, I mean just getting bullied
at home at night by Texas A and M by
the way, second head coach It's not like this is

(22:02):
Nick Saban's Alabama team, second year head who's excellent. By
the way, it's not a knock on second year head
coach Mike Elko. You just it can't look like this.
And I think for I think most LSU fans have
been out for a while. I think most people that
follow college football have understand understood how precarious it is.
But you could not watch that game with any type

(22:22):
of whatever and not see that this team is not competitive,
They're not good, They're not anything close to what they're
supposed to be.

Speaker 3 (22:30):
I just I'm with you. I just I don't know
how you could keep going on like this.

Speaker 4 (22:34):
So listen, I'll make one more point that's Vanderbilt adjacent
or Vanderbilt related, and it's this. You lost to Vanderbilt
last week. ESPN picked Nashville. They were here in my city,
as opposed to being in Baton Rouge for your game
against Texas A and M. Game Day was hosted at Vanderbilt. Yeah,

(22:56):
as opposed to Baton Rouge for a night game between
ls you in a top three ranked Texas A and
M team. I think that tells you all you need
to know, not only did you lose to Vanderbilt. You've
you've become like a non story, yes, in college football
this year. And the one thing that LSU can absolutely
never become is irrelevant. And that's what they are right now.

(23:19):
That's why I think he's done.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
You know, it's funny. I don't know if we talked
about this last week. You know, you see so much
stuff over the course of the week. I don't remember
if it was a tweet or an article or whatever.
That's the other thing about this Brian Kelly thing is
it's one thing that LSU is bad, can never be bad.
But somebody tweeted this. I think it was a tweet,
and I think it was just a random fan tweet.
I don't think it was some like journalist or radio

(23:42):
person or whatever. But it was like the thing about
LSU is, Yeah, they had some weird you know, weird
seasons and weirdness and weird that, but they were always
kind of that fan that school that if.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
You had no allegiance, you always were kind.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
Of into right like coach o, like go tigers, you know,
less miles eating grass like and oh, by the way,
they had all these NFL even when they weren't good.
They you know, they were the school of Justin Jefferson
and Jamar Chase and Joe Burrow and Jade and Daniels
and Malik Neighbors and I mean just think about those
names that I just said, and now it's like they

(24:17):
got an unlikable coach.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
They're awful to watch. I think that's the worst part.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
Is like it's one thing if you go nine to three,
but you got NFL dudes everywhere, and every once in
a while you show it's like, no, they're they're.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
Not really good anywhere.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
And yeah, I don't know what else there is to
add on this, but it's just it's just pretty low
key embarrassing.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
You said they're awful to watch. I mean, I think
that's I think that's it. It's like, not only are
they a non story, they're uninteresting, Yes, Like how is
that possible? How is elis s football in general? But LSU?
How is LSU football that uninteresting? Like that dull that
that can't that can't be. But that's that just flat

(25:00):
out is not a thing that LSU can tolerate and
really shouldn't tolerate. Like they made it. They made a
bad decision here. This hire has not worked out, and
they're gonna owe a lot of money. But if you
do want to talk about this era, that's the change
is because of just the business of college athletics and
what college football has become with nil and transfer portal

(25:23):
and all of the money that's now kind of above
board and in front of us as opposed to being
underneath the table. They're just gonna buy the guy out
like that. That's what they're gonna do, because I don't
think that they can afford as a program to sit
there for another year just to maintain money.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
It is interesting.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
And it's gonna be fascinating to watch, and it's gonna
be fascinating to see what ends up happening at LSU.
By the way, say, by the way, congrats the LSU.
You get to buy this week, then guess what you
gotta go to Alabama? And then he closed at Oklahoma,
who of course lost earlier.

Speaker 4 (25:57):
In the day.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
That will miss but uh man o man man, I'll
tell you what, jamarrt let's come back. Let's talk to
the other side, because Texas A and M I do
think is it worth at least a few minutes of
conversation eight and oh for the first time since nineteen
ninety two, and I believe they're headed for the college
football playoff. We'll discuss that next. Before we do, though,
let's get it over the news desk. Steve de Sega,

(26:18):
what is training?

Speaker 3 (26:18):
My friend?

Speaker 7 (26:19):
Hello, gentlemen, we will get to baseball in a minute.
World Series tied at a game apiece, but that Arizona
State game is still going. Under thirty seconds left. Houston
is leading at number twenty four ASU twenty four to sixteen.
Houston has the ball and driving the late game, and
that's singular. Utah at home already leads Colorado twenty six
to nothing early in the second quarter. Everything else is

(26:42):
a final, including the Texas A and M win. Despite
trailing at LSU at halftime eighteen fourteen, the third ranked
Aggies win forty nine to twenty five fourth ranked Alabama
with two touchdowns in the last two and a half minutes.
When at South Carolina today twenty nine, twenty two theories
in the top ten for Indiana, Oregon and Georgia Tech.

Speaker 8 (27:03):
Number eight.

Speaker 7 (27:04):
Ole Miss won at Oklahoma thirty four to twenty six,
outscoring the Sooners in the fourth quarter nine nothing ninth rank.
Miami was actually trailing Stanford late first half seven nothing
beat Stanford forty two to seven. And by the way,
in two weeks at Stanford at North Carolina set the
DVR now number ten Vanderbilt with a touchdown with under

(27:24):
two minutes to go, Oh Missouri.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
Can I say one thing real quick because Jmart pointed
this out last week. Unbelievable how much Andrew Luck there
is on every Stanford broadcast.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
I actually was flipping channel on.

Speaker 8 (27:35):
The sidelines, like Jerry Jones.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
Well they you know how they do the in between
quarter interviews with the coach?

Speaker 3 (27:41):
They did it with Andrew Luck. I get it. He's
a famous alum who is an energy coach, you know.
I guess.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
I mean they got an interim coach at Penn State.
I don't see LeVar Errington on the sidelines doing interviews.

Speaker 7 (27:53):
Do they do that with Ron riverat Cal No, not
that I'm aware of, general manager of that program, right call.
The Vandy game was tied three to three late in
the third quarter for those who did not watch today,
but they did win again seventeen to ten over Missouri.
The bad news for Missou their quarterback bo Perbula was
carted off early in the third quarter with his ankle

(28:13):
in an air cast BYU won again. Victories for Texas
Tech and Tennessee. Sixteenth ranked Virginia winn in overtime at
North Carolina seventeen sixteen as the Tar Heels went for
two in OT and were tackled just short of the
goal line. Memphis upset number eighteen South Florida, Washington upset
number twenty three Illinois, Louisville, and Cincinnati with wins Michigan

(28:35):
as well. Texas I'll say quote, ranked twenty second in
the country, had to come back in regulation just to
send it to overtime, and then didn't win in OT
at Mississippi State forty five to thirty eight. Texas quarterback
Arch Manning left in the early in the overtime due
to injury.

Speaker 8 (28:54):
By the way, the first.

Speaker 7 (28:55):
College football Playoff rankings come out in a week and
a half, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson out again. Can you
believe it? He'd been questionable yesterday with a bad hamstring.
He's been out for a month. Apparently it's the next
game he's gonna play. The Jets have to start quarterback
Justin Fields tomorrow. To Rod Taylor out with a knee injury.
The Falcons will likely start quarterback Kirk Cousins. Michael Pennix

(29:16):
was listed as questionable with the bone bruise in his knee.
NBA wins for Oklahoma City and Chicago. NHL Toronto won
in overtime, beating Buffalo four to three, and in Toronto tonight. Well,
the World Series has tied at a game apiece.

Speaker 9 (29:30):
Now.

Speaker 7 (29:30):
The Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays five to one
in a game that was one to one in the
seventh Yoshinobu Yamamoto incredible again, a complete game, four hitter
for the Dodgers, getting the win with eight strikeouts no walks.
Updating the stat that you referenced early, the last three
pitchers in Major league history to throw back to back

(29:53):
postseason complete games Yama Moto last week in this week,
Kurt Shilling three straight in the National League Playoffs of
two thousand and one, and Tom Glavin in the nineteen
ninety two World Series complete games in back to back starts.
That's how far back you would have to go, and
thank you for talking baseball at the top of the show.
By the way, at Fox TV, we'll have games three, four,

(30:16):
and five from LA Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday night.
All the games started at about eight pm Eastern time.
But as we talk the Dodgers and I know, payroll
is a story. Baseball's I won't say the one sport,
but certainly is a sport where payroll guarantees you nothing.
And the New York Mets are one superb example of

(30:36):
that this year because opening day, technically the Mets had
the highest payroll in Major League Baseball and they missed
the playoffs entirely. And just so we are dealing with facts.
This is in no way, shape or form a World
Series matchup of some sort of David against Goliath. Because
the Toronto Blue Jays are the number one seed in

(30:58):
the American League. The Dodgers are a three seed, meaning
they were the worst of the three division winners in
the National League.

Speaker 3 (31:06):
They stunk well.

Speaker 7 (31:08):
The Dodgers did have a high payroll. The Toronto Blue
Jays were top five in payroll, and I looked up
the list from opening Day this year. The team that
won the World Series two years ago, Texas number six
payroll in baseball missed the playoffs entirely. Number seven payroll,
Houston missed the playoffs entirely. Number eight payroll Braves what

(31:29):
was left of them, missed the playoffs entirely. And Toronto.
Starting next year, the extension kicks in Vladimiricaurero Junior, who's
been red hot this postseason. He starts a fourteen year,
five hundred million dollar contract with the Blue Jays next season.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
Back to you must be nice.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
Fourteen year, five hundred million dollar contract. It's basically Brian
Kelly's contract. Tell you what, we'll come back. We'll talk
about it.

Speaker 7 (31:56):
You could add up the outs of all the college
football coaches we've discussed this season, and it wouldn't.

Speaker 8 (32:02):
Add up to the five hundred million of that one player.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
Yeah, the difference is vlad Guerrero was actually earning his
money like these other guys.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
We will come back though.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Hey we're a glasses half full show, So we'll talk
about the positive of what happened in Baton Rouge, Texas.
A and M looks like they're headed for the playoff.
Is van By about to do the same. We'll discuss
that next. Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (32:24):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
Welcome back, everybody.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
Fox Sports Radio Aeron Torris Chase Martin broadcasting live from
the Fox Sports Radio studios. Jay mart say this as
the kids say, there's a thrill of victory in an
agony defeat.

Speaker 3 (32:44):
We talked about LSU's embarrassing forty nine to twenty five
home loss to Texas A and M A and N
with thirty five straight points in the second half. LS
use a mess.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
But I'll say this, and this is something you and
I could have never said at any point maybe in
our lives. You know, the one thing that Texas A
and M is not a mess. Unbelieve this pro I mean,
isn't it crazy? I mean, this program that could not
get out of its own way, and it's been you know,
a saying in college football for years is they have

(33:20):
everything you need to win at the highest level and
it has never clicked.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Well.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
Mike Elko, tough guy from Jersey, former defensive coordinator under
Jimbo Fisher. Ironically, he was actually a defensive coordinator under
Brian Kelly at Notre Dame for a little while as well.
You know, he's come in and it has just it's
just changed everything. And you and I talked about them.
I guess it would have been the night of the
Notre Dame game, maybe it was another night after it.

(33:46):
But just you talk about a team that just shows
up every week, consistent, physical, tough, mean, you know, I
don't you know, I don't know how many NFL draft
picks they have. I don't know where Marcel Reid is
on any board, their quarterback. But they just show up
every week and get the job done. Eight and zero
for the first time since nineteen ninety two. And I'll

(34:09):
say this as you look at their schedule, you know,
final four games of the season, Missouri on the road
will be tough, but South Carolina at home, Sanford at home,
and Texas A and M on the road. I'm sure
even Aggie fans don't want us to go quite there.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
Yet.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
This team feels like it could very well be playing
for an SEC title, and the College Football playoffs seems
like it is certainly in reach.

Speaker 4 (34:35):
Yeah, I mean, I think there'd be no reason not
to think they're gonna make it at this point. I mean,
they've already accomplished a lot this season, and you're you're right,
not only are they competent, but they just they don't
really create drama. They there's nothing like I don't think
about them when I think of elite teams, you know,

(34:56):
throughout times certainly, and like when I'm thinking about this season,
it's just they just keep on winning. And it can
differ from week to week depending on the opponent. But
they go out and on the road in Baton Rouge
and nearly put up fifty in that game. Like it's
it's impressive. It's a professional outfit, that's what it looks like.
And Elko has them just playing a lot of error

(35:19):
free football in a lot of respects. They are sound
on both sides of the ball. They don't beat themselves,
and they're going to be a tough out pretty much
against anybody. But yeah, I think they're in. I don't
really see a scenario where they're going to do anything
that's going to knock them out YEP of the College
football Playoff. I think at this point I feel very

(35:41):
confident in seeing them in January.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
Well, it'll be interesting. SEC. It's starting to shape up.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
You know, that top tier is pretty good, and I'm
somebody that's not I don't think of myself as any
sort of SEC homer, but you got it really about
a top five, top six Alabama wins today, A and
M is undefeated or miss wins again today.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
A Georgia is six and one on thereby.

Speaker 2 (36:03):
Texas is sorry listen, I was gonna actually do the
glasses half full and do a Vandy thing for a
minute or two.

Speaker 4 (36:10):
Yeah, No, I think Vanderbilt. I mean they've got a shot.
I think they're gonna come up short, but they've got
a shot real quick.

Speaker 3 (36:16):
Let me ask you a question.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
And I haven't looked at the updated Heisman odds. You know,
ty Simpson has certainly had his moment, had a ton
of moments. I don't want to dismiss what he's done.
And Fernando Mendoza has been incredible at at Indiana. I
think if I had a vote today, I would give
it to Diego Pavia.

Speaker 4 (36:35):
He's definitely in the top five.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
Yeah, I was just thinking this and before the show,
is that like even like Mendoza is incredible, right, And
this isn't like tear down other guys to build up
my candidate. But it's like, when you think about Indiana football,
you're like, oh, Signetti, he's the rock, he's this, he's that.
When you think Vandy, you think Diego Pavia and it's

(36:57):
not to say clark Lee's not a good coach, but
I was thinking about this.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
I wonder how many, like actual.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
College football fans have no idea who's actually the coach
a Vanderbilt And I just think what that kid has
done for that program. Again, it's a long season with
a lot of games left. I think if I had
a vote today, he'd be my Heisman guy.

Speaker 4 (37:14):
I mean I think again, I think he probably will
get some love. I think that's a valid point too.
I mean, Pavia is Vanderbilt. Like, yes, Clarkly is getting
some deservant credit here, but Clarkly was there before Diego
Pavia and they weren't quite the same. And I think
that when it comes to like people are afraid he's

(37:34):
gonna James Franklin this thing and leave the way James
Franklin left, and there's a lot of jobs opening all this.
I want to see what Clarkly is after Diego Pavia. Yeah,
before I you know, hitch my wagon there. I think
he's a very impressive guy and like listening to him
and I remember interviewing him years ago, Like there's a
lot to like there. But at the same time, I
want to see this after Diego. I want to see

(37:56):
what they follow this up with. Diego is a force
of nature in many respects, and so I think Ty
Simpson probably would have my vote right now. And I
think you mentioned the guys. I think it's Simpson, Mendoza
and Pavier are the three guys that really kind of
stand out to me at this point. And whatever order
you want to put him in, you can. I just

(38:17):
think that because it's to Alabama, they've had a few
moments where it's been Simpson or Bust, like that game today.
They should have lost that game to South Carolina, but
Simpson was able to make a couple of plays. He
had that big time third and fourth down a few
weeks ago to win a game that they also look
like they might be about to lose. He's just done

(38:37):
a couple of things that look like those highlight plays
that you see for the guy that wins. And there's
a lot of flaws in that Bama team. They'll run
the ball particularly well. That defense is not elite in
a lot of cases, so he's having to do a
lot and that reminds me a lot of what Bryce
Young did the year that he won.

Speaker 3 (38:55):
Yeah, it'll be interesting to follow.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
And I'll say this, I think, like I said, SECS
some interesting team. It does feel like the Big Ten
is kind of those three teams at the top and
then a pretty big drop off Ohio State, Oregon and
Indiana as well. So the field's starting to narrow itself.
And yeah, I don't know what else to say. It
was a fun day real quick, since you mentioned Texas
can't play march banding for today, he actually played very

(39:19):
well despite awful low line play, not a very good
defensive performance. You know, Texas is not in that top tier.
They still have Vandy at home, A and m at
home and Georgia on the road. Any quick thoughts here
before we transition to some other stuff outside of college football.

Speaker 4 (39:35):
Art is just getting mauled. Yeah, just googling his name
and it just brings up, you know what people are saying,
even on social media and stuff, and they're just going
after him. Left it right, doesn't matter. He goes and
he has three hundred plus yards. Yeah, but two hundred
of them were yards after catch. So he's basically just
a check down merchant who got lucky like stuff like that.
He goes out because he takes a blow to the

(39:56):
back of the head in over time. And you've got
guys saying Brady and you know all of these names
from the past, Johnny Manziel, they'd never leave a game
like this like duties can cuss. Like I understand you
don't like the guy because of the coverage, you got
the hype and all this, but he can't even win
now for winning like he's the reason. He's really the
reason that they won the game today. The offense bailed

(40:19):
out that defense. Even Sarkisian said.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
It, yeah, And when I giggled, it wasn't at Archmanning
getting a cussed. It was at the conversation Fox Sports
Radio Aeron Torris Ja Smart.

Speaker 3 (40:27):
We'll come back. Start of the week, NBA We got takes.
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (40:31):

Speaker 2 (40:43):
Welcome in everybody, hour two towards Martin Fox Sports Radio.
We are broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
It is midnight eastern, nine Pacific, and it is a
busy night in the world of sports. Dodgers have taken
Game two of the World Series, local news showing my

(41:03):
old neighborhood in Pasadena. I miss Pasadena, lived there for
a long time. Fun little area anyway, you don't care
chamber a lot of college No, I mean that, listen.
I live in like a very residential area right now.
I live two blocks from when I lived in Pasadena,
two blocks off of the Rose Parade route. So it's
all restaurants and bars and stuff. So miss the old neighborhood,

(41:26):
That's all I'm.

Speaker 4 (41:27):
Trying to say, gotcha.

Speaker 8 (41:28):
Yeah, But how.

Speaker 2 (41:29):
Busy busy day in college sports, college football. So Dodgers
win Game two of the World Series. Game three on Monday,
big story in college football. LSU loses at home forty
nine to twenty five to the Texas A and m
Aggi's you gotta just wonder, Brian Kelly.

Speaker 3 (41:47):
I looked it up.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
By the way, fifty three million dollars guaranteed left on
his contract, So we will see what happens with that.
It's bad, it's embarrassing, and we will certainly keep you
updated on the rest of a busy night in college football.
One game left, by the way, and I do want
to switch gears to the NBA and half a second.

Speaker 3 (42:04):
J mart Utah up forty to.

Speaker 2 (42:07):
Nothing in the first half on the Colorado Buffaloes real quick.
I don't want to pile on Dion. It's it's whatever.
It is amazing how they just went from the biggest
story that everyone cared about to yeah, just you know,
the Colorado whatever.

Speaker 4 (42:24):
Yeah. Well, I mean, you know, you had to sell
the issues and there was this stuff in the off season,
and this was again like Travis Hunter was the Heisman
Trophy winner for a reason. Yeah, and Shador Sanders in
that offense and what they were able to do. You
lost those guys and you don't just grow them on trees,
like you don't find them everywhere. Matter of fact, you don't.

(42:46):
You don't find Travis Hunter virtually anywhere. So I just
I think the fall or just the just them going
back to this level this quickly is a bit stunning.
But at the same time, it's it's all about reloading.
In college football, it's so different than it is in
the NFL. It's like, yes, you have to deal with
contracts and making people happy in all this, but from

(43:08):
year to year, it's not the revolving door the way
it's become in college football, and you know, you live
by that sword and die by that sort. Colorado lived
by that sort a lot more than died by it
last year. And now it's kind of going on the
other way. And then now's the question, though, how much
fun is Dion having right now?

Speaker 3 (43:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (43:27):
How fun is that job right now? What are his
prospects elsewhere? Is he going to want to be in
this for the long haul if it's going to be
this kind of a challenge year in and year out.
I think that was always the question. When it goes south,
he's going to have all sorts of options because he's
deon Sanders, whether it's TV or otherwise. How long is

(43:48):
he going to put up with this? And I my
money is on not being there very long. Not because
I don't think he has an integrity. It doesn't have
anything to do with that. I just think he's got
enough money that there's no reason for this added stress,
especially if his health is still you know, kind of
has betrayed him a little bit recently, and so it's
just been a more stressful time. I imagine this is taking

(44:09):
a toll on him.

Speaker 3 (44:11):
Yeah, it'll be interesting. I think it'll be interesting.

Speaker 2 (44:13):
To just kind of see where he to your point,
sons are gone not going well. You know, Colorado's kind
of in a tough spot in this new world of nil. Like, yes,
I know schools can now pay players, but we know that,
you know, nobody's sticking within it. Well the good the
schools that have money aren't sticking within the budgets. So

(44:34):
you know, I think it's hard for him to keep players,
retain players, get the players that he wants. And to
your point, if it keeps going sideways, and you know,
I'd be curious. The only thing I will say, like,
I think we all forget. And I would even include
myself in this. He did sign that huge contract extension
last offseason. He's like one of the ten to twelve
highest paid coaches in college football, so he would be

(44:55):
giving up a lot of money to step away. But
to your point, j Mart, you know this isn't Billy Napier.
I mean, you know, he could clearly make pretty close
to I don't know what he can make off the field,
but he wouldn't be scraping pennies together.

Speaker 3 (45:10):
Let's switch gears and uh, let's.

Speaker 4 (45:14):
Talk about Wemby. I was gonna say nothing else happening
in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (45:18):
Scraping, scraping pennies together. That was not Chauncey Billups problem
when he was rigging poker games. I can tell you
that much. Let's just get into this. It was, you know, Jamar,
I don't know where you were on whatever it was
Thursday morning. Just a stunning story. FBI arrest Chauncey Billups.
FBI Terry Rozier is involved, and really there's like seven

(45:42):
different stories going on at once, so we'll do our
best to kind of just keep everything in line. And
you've heard everybody here on Fox Sports Radio talk about it.
But essentially, Chauncey Billups was part of ragged poker games.
There was a separate Chauncey Billups situation where he was
tipping off gamblers to when he was not going to
be playing sing you know, starters and and his best players.

(46:02):
He is, of course, or he was, I guess by technicality,
still is for now the head coach of the Portland Trailblazers.
And also on top of that, you know there's the
Terry Rozier side of things, where uh he was uh,
you know, tipping off gamblers when he was uh you know,
with situations with unders and and and prop betting and
all that. J Martin, I want your thoughts, but I

(46:25):
guess what I would say is that, you know, we guys,
we can skip the Windhorst stuff. So Brian Windhorst did
say on Rich Eisen Show, the NBA was aware of,
you know, of the Terry Rozier allegations, et cetera, et cetera,
you know whatever. But Adam Silver was asked about the

(46:46):
current situation during the NBA's premiere on Amazon Prime on
Friday night. This is a little bit jmart of a
longer sound bite, but I want, you know, I want
to give Adam Silver a little bit of the benefit
of the doubt. I actually thought he was pretty trained.
It's parent in this answer. Here is Adam Silver talking
about his last couple days on Amazon Prime Friday night.

Speaker 10 (47:06):
And Adam Yesterday, federal indictments were announced involving current player
Terry Rogier and current head coach Chauncey Phillips. What was
your initial reaction and what had the last thirty six
hours been like for you?

Speaker 11 (47:20):
My initial reaction was I was deeply disturbed. There's nothing
more important to the league and its fans and the
integrity of the competition, and so I had to pit
my stomach.

Speaker 4 (47:33):
It was very upsetting, and.

Speaker 10 (47:35):
Terry Rogier was allowed to keep playing after an MBA
investigation ruled that there was no NBA rules violated. What
do you make of that decision now amid the FBI's
allegations against him.

Speaker 11 (47:49):
So what happened was because bets were placed through legalized,
legal betting companies, they picked up aberrational behavior around a
particular game in March of twenty three, and so that
was brought to our attention by the regulators and the
betting companies. We then looked into that situation and we're

(48:12):
very transparent about it, and while there was that aberrational betting,
we frankly couldn't find anything.

Speaker 3 (48:20):
Terry at the time cooperated.

Speaker 11 (48:21):
He gave the League office his phone, he sat down
for an interview, and we ultimately concluded that there was
insufficient evidence despite that operational behavior to move forward. We
then worked directly with the law of law enforcement. As
they said that the press conference of the League has
been cooperating and so that was obviously over two years ago.

(48:42):
So the federal government has subpoena power and threaten to
put people in jail, can do all kinds of things
that a league office can't do. So we've been working
with them since then. And of course what they announced
yesterday was an indictment. So two and a half years later,
he still hasn't been convicted of anything. In fairness to Terry,
obviously it doesn't look good. But he's now been put

(49:05):
on administrative leave, and so you know, there's a balance
here of protecting people's rights and investigating. And as I said,
we've been working with the government and they have extraordinary
powers that a league office doesn't have.

Speaker 2 (49:19):
That was Adam Silver on Amazon Prime on Friday night.
I know there was a lot there. Jay mart I
thought we had to include the full quote to give
Adam Silver full context of what he said. You can
take this wherever you want. It is such a disaster
for the league. I have thoughts on Adam Silver, but
I have thoughts on the state of the league, and
it's just I mean, when you're talking about an active

(49:42):
head coach working with gamblers, player acting, you know, working
with gamblers, such a disaster. Listen, I know we were
all worried about what bringing gambling into the mainstream would do.
This is by definition a war first case scenario, and
as everybody has said over the last couple of days,

(50:03):
the NBA just has a total mess on their hands.

Speaker 4 (50:06):
So my initial take on just listening to Adam Silver's comments,
and I agree that you playing it in its entirety
is the right call, is that Adam Silver sounds scared
to death. Agreed, that answer was so long, And when
you say that much, it's because you just can't stop talking.
It's not saying that anything he was saying there is

(50:29):
not genuine in any way shape or for him not
saying that at all, I thought it was a good answer,
but he said too much. He said so much. It
was just like I'm trying to get out of this,
so I'm trying to say whatever I possibly can right now.
He just can't stop talking. He's anxious, Like there was
just an anxiousness in his tone, in his voice, even
in his cadence. Everything about that was just like I'm

(50:51):
terrified about this. And it all goes back to the
first thing he said, which is about the integrity of
the league. If it comes to a point where people
truly have a reason to question whether or not what
they are seeing is legitimate. It's dead. It's dead because
progressling can get away with it because everybody is in
on that and they understand what it is. It's an

(51:12):
entertainment product. It's different for sports. And I listened to
a couple of different conversations today, one with Michael Francis,
who I've listened to for many years. When it comes
to these kinds of things, somebody, yeah, big time, But
he was in prison as well, so it's not like
he's just you know, doing this and saying that he
did all these things, like he went to prison for
these things. And look he One thing is yes, DraftKings, FanDuel,

(51:37):
all the things that make gambling easier today to do
on the up and up and legal. That's gonna maybe
make the problem worse. But this stuff has been going
on for a long long time. You just don't hear
about a lot of it. I see, you know, Chauncey
Biligs to Terry Rozier. And the initial thing that I

(51:58):
think about is who are the bigger names that we
haven't heard about yet? Because there's more here there obviously,
is it? Like, with no disrespect to those guys, those
are not gigantic names. Those are people that can be sacrificed,
at least for right now if need be. And that's

(52:19):
not to suggest that there's some grand conspiracy or anything
going on like that. It's just to say there's no
question in my mind that there are much bigger names
that are tied up in something like this, whether it's
identical to this notwithstanding. But I think the other thing
that I want to say is those that like gambling
don't want my take on gambling at all. They don't

(52:41):
want to hear what I have to say about betting
in general and gambling on sports and all of those
kinds of things. So I'm going to keep those to myself.
But I will say that when we always say how
much money do you need when it comes to contract
negotiations for multi millionaires, this is why these things continue
to happen because no matter how much money you have,

(53:02):
you can always have more, and if there's a chance
out there to have more, you're going to take it.
And then you add into that the competitive nature, especially
of athletes, but of just people in general, especially men,
and you see why gambling explodes the way that it does.
Competitiveness mixed with I love the idea of becoming rich

(53:26):
because I'm right, I profit because I'm right, So it
actually builds me up in my mind as well as
my bank account. And then of course there's the addiction
and all those other things. But Chauncey Billups, there was
always that argument, right, He's made one hundred and sixty
million dollars or whatever it is throughout his career. Why
would you sacrifice that for thousands? I understand that argument,

(53:48):
But my question is, well, how deep was he in
with various people in organized crime or book makers or
whoever it might be, how much gambling debt was he in?
Because a lot of people that have a lot of
money are still broke or owing a lot of money
and are still having to do things that they otherwise
might not. These are not just things that happen in movies.

(54:10):
These things happen in real life. So I think that
there's a lot more to this story than just well
he was taking this payout. You know, we're going to
learn a lot more as time goes on. But it's
a horrible thing for the NBA, and it's just going
to cast more suspicion on anything that looks a little
sketchy in sports, not just in the NBA. I mean,

(54:33):
John Matier had a bad day and people said he
was clearly on the take today, Like that kind of
thing is going to continue to happen. And that's why,
you know, when Calvin Ridley had what he happened, what
happened to him in the NFL, he was thrown out
of the league for a while as a result of that,
and people said, well, he's just gambling. No, no, no, no, no.
If integrity, if the outcomes are challenged, sports are dead,

(54:56):
especially because you can't bet on something like that. Like
if gambling is super important to sports, which I think
in many respects it is, a lot of people really
really enjoy sports to a much greater degree because they
have skin in the game, then it better be something
that I can win where the game is not rigged,
which is you know, hilarious considering the poker situation with

(55:18):
Chauncey Billups. I mean, there's so much here. This is
a very very interesting story. It's a sad story, and
I'm afraid this is just a beginning of where that
story is headed.

Speaker 2 (55:28):
Yeah, really quickly, you mentioned Calvin Ridley, and there's actually
a huge element of this that I didn't even mention
off the top, which is that also involved is Damon Jones.
Damon Jones, former NBA player, former assistant coach, and one
fact that we know about, well we don't know the
exact fact, but if you put two and two and
two and two together, you can find out pretty quickly

(55:51):
that he was made aware that Lebron James would not
be playing in a game in Milwaukee. And you know,
he tipped off better that hey, the Lakers will be out,
will be without their best player. And I would bring
it up because just very quickly, this is a random
side tangent that I don't think, you know, is the
most important part, but I do think it is important

(56:12):
part because going back to Calvin Ridley, I remember so
many people, even in the media saying, well, if you
don't put on your own team, well, why is it
a big deal? Well, it's a big deal because of
exactly what Damon Jones did. It's because all of these
guys know each other. All of these guys have access
to information. By the way, right now, there's a situation

(56:33):
with the Baltimore Ravens where the NFL is investigating, like
did they actively put out poor information about Lamar Jackson
on their injury report, and it is for this exact reason.
It is because if you don't put out the information publicly,
it goes underground. People have an edge and then everything
is compromised. And so there are reasons that we do

(56:56):
stuff like that. There are reasons that you cannot bet
on your own sport, and it's just it's a total mess.
I'll tell you what, Jamart, there is. I feel like
a lot more meat on this boat. Let's come back,
Let's continue the conversation. Actually, I want to get to
some sound that Jalen Brown actually said yesterday, because I
think that's interesting as well. We got a lot of

(57:17):
ground to cover on the most interesting story in sports.
Aertrus Jason Martin taking you up till two a m.

Speaker 3 (57:23):
Eastern. This is Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (57:26):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 3 (57:29):
Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (57:32):
Aer Torris Jason Martin broadcasting live for the Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Busy Saturday night in the world of sports,
including the Dodgers taking a while tying up the series
at one one to Saga. Will have the updates in
just a second. But it is important to note, did
you see that Red Ostrich logo on the professional baseball
postseason helmets that Strauss family owns. That's nineteen forty eight

(57:52):
and trusted by pros worldwide. Pants built like tools, durable,
comfortable and engineered to perform from grit to glory. Gear
up now at Strauss dot com. That's st R A
U S S dot com. Strauss dot com. Well, come back,
we will continue this fascinating conversation about the NBA, what
is next for Adam Silver and uh just a total

(58:14):
mess on his hands. Before we get to that, though,
let's get it over the news desk to SEGA. What
is trending at twelve twenty six Eastern time here on
a Saturday Sunday morning.

Speaker 8 (58:23):
Good evening.

Speaker 7 (58:23):
Once again, by the way, I did read an article
that Strauss has been quite successful for that that had
never happened before. Logo of a sponsor on the helmets.
I think this is the second straight postseason it's been
working out. It was Game two of the World Series
on Fox TV tonight and LA won at top seeded
Toronto five to one, so it's even at a game
apiece with the next three in Los Angeles Monday night,

(58:44):
Tuesday night, Wednesday night Fox TV, with all the games
starting at about eight pm Eastern time. Will Smith of
LA with an RBI single in the first and a
solo homer in the seventh. In between, seventeen straight Dodger
hitters were retired by the losing pitcher, Gossman. He went
six and two third, six strikeouts, no walks. The winning

(59:04):
pitcher was just better amazing. Leoshinobu Yamamoto, second straight week
a playoff complete game. This was a four hitter, eight strikeouts,
no walks. He retired the last twenty Blue Jays hitters
in a row. Max Munsey with a late solo homer
last week in Milwaukee. By the way, Yamamoto a complete
game one hundred eleven pitches. Tonight complete game, one hundred

(59:25):
and five pitches. These last five weeks, he's allowed five
runs total in his last six starts. Toronto ininfielder Bo
Bashett did not start, did pinch hit, grounded out to
end the seventh. It was a one to one game
at one point in the seventh. Bishett did start Game
one for the home team after his spraying knee had
kept him out since early September, and he was playing
second base, not short stop. Last time for the first

(59:47):
time since The miners notable that he's in the lineup
because he's one of the rare three hundred hitters in baseball.
This year he batted three to eleven with ninety four
RBIs and his contract's running out and now everybody's seizing
him play second, not just short stuff. Dodger reliever Alex
Vassia is out. He had to leave the team due
to a serious family matter. Lefty reliever Tanner Scott, though
healthy now, was not added to the roster. So you've

(01:00:10):
seen the Dodger bullpen. It's three months of disaster now,
including what was a two to two game in the
sixth last night. They have who to go to exactly,
Clayton Kershaw, Will Klimb last night at Gardo Enriquez. There's
not much there. The reason the Toronto Blue Jays, by
the way, are even playing at home to start the
World Series is because they beat the Dodger bullpen in

(01:00:32):
La in a Sunday afternoon a game in August got
two homers in the eighth, one and the ninth to win,
and the Blue Jays finished with ninety four victories, the
Dodgers ninety three. Those were really two items, and the
whole season were the reason the Dodgers are not holding
home field advantage. The other happened on a Saturday night
during this show early September. Tonight's starter, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, had

(01:00:56):
a no hitter going with two outs in the ninth
at Baltimore, gave up a home run. The bullpen came
on and wound up giving up four runs in the
bottom of the ninth to lose. That had never happened
before that The team was won out from a no
hitter and gave up four and the ninth to lose.
It didn't even go extra innings. Those two losses that
I mentioned massive as to why the Dodgers did not

(01:01:18):
play at home these first two games. By the way,
we talked about George Springer, the Toronto DH on last
Saturday night show from Connecticut. The fact that he was
even able to play last Monday after being hit by
a pitch on the knee in Game five of the
ALCS and hit the game winning three run homer in
Game seven against Seattle notable.

Speaker 8 (01:01:39):
Let's just put it that way.

Speaker 7 (01:01:40):
Home runs are yet again important in playoff games. We
saw it tonight update the stat this postseason teams that
out Homer the opponent twenty six and five. And as
we head toward Los Angeles, let's mention that the Blue
Jays bench coach is Don Mattingley, who was the Dodger
manager before Dave Roberts purposefully Toronto sent Mattinglee out with

(01:02:04):
the lineups to the umpires before Game one. As Dave
Roberts was out there, Mattinglee had never been to the
World Series, even in a great career as a player
or as a manager. He is there now and it's
at that game a piece. As for the college football,
we'll get to the top ten details in about fifteen minutes,
but A and M and Alabama each one on the road.

(01:02:24):
Ole missed it as well in the saggy field at Oklahoma,
Vanderbilt edge Massoo. Virginia won in overtime at North Carolina.
The late game has Utah leading at halftime forty three
to nothing against Colorado, which is about to fall to
one in four in conference play. Did you see the
finish of the wake Forest game today?

Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
I saw the coach yelling about in a press conference
on our ACC network TV.

Speaker 11 (01:02:48):
Here.

Speaker 3 (01:02:48):
I did not see what.

Speaker 7 (01:02:48):
I fifty yard field goal on the final play that
barely made it over the crossbar, and I mean barely
because it hit the front padding of the post that
supports the cross bar, so it made it look like
it was short, but they showed a camera angle from
behind thirteen to twelve. Wake Forest beats SMU Pit fifty
three thirty four over NC State. Kansas State dominated at

(01:03:12):
Kansas forty two to seventeen.

Speaker 8 (01:03:14):
TCU six and two.

Speaker 7 (01:03:15):
After winning at West Virginia, Yukon went double overtime today
at Rice Rice Els thirty seven thirty four. The final
Temple won in overtime at Tulsa, North Texas seven and one,
after a dominant win last night at Charlotte. By the way,
that's one of the North Carolina wins this year. Charlotte
beat Charlotte, which is one and seven. They beat Richmond

(01:03:36):
as well. Anybody contributions now and al money from that.

Speaker 3 (01:03:39):
They're good things about that city. I don't know about this.

Speaker 7 (01:03:42):
As we look toward who's going to be the so
called group of five team to get into the playoffs,
we had that Memphis game was very key today. I
know Memphis still has Tulane in the week from Friday,
but Memphis upset eighteenth ranks South Florida and Navy one.
Navy is seven and oh and undefeated in the American
comp Prince beat Florida Atlantic back to.

Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
You believe off the top of my head, undefeated teams Navy, Indiana,
Texas A and m BYU.

Speaker 3 (01:04:07):
Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (01:04:08):
I think that's it, so Navy in that mix anyway,
And Ohio State was off today. Ohio State was off today.
Thank you to Sega. Be facking, be fack. You'll be
back in just a few minutes. Getting ahead of myself.
Fox Sports Radio Erra Torres Jason Martin again broadcasting live
from the Fox Sports Radio studios. J mar let's just
keep this conversation going. You know, I'll tell you what,

(01:04:32):
is there anything There's some interesting Jalen Brown sound that
I want to play, But is there anything like that
we didn't get to last segment that is pressing on
the top of your mind that you want to lead
this segment with. We were obviously talking about the gambling
scandal before we got to Disagre just a few minutes ago.

Speaker 4 (01:04:47):
I don't know if there's anything pressing. I mean, there's
plenty more to say that I think we'll get into
but maybe we can listen to Jaywen Brown and then
build off of that.

Speaker 2 (01:04:55):
All right, Mary mac, let's get the Jalen Brown sound up.
Jayalen Brown, of course, is the the head of the
Players Association, was asked about this situation.

Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
Here is what Jaylen Brown had to say.

Speaker 12 (01:05:06):
I think a lot more could have been done to
help players or prepare players, But even in the aftermath,
I don't think little care or attention to detail goes
into it. They like, you make X amount of money
or X, Y and z, you should be able to
deal with all the extra negativity the people approaching you
about parlays. It creates a negative discourse around the game
and players when people have money involved. Obviously it's a

(01:05:28):
part of it, but definitely some of the experiences, the
fan engagement, the fan interactions that we've had over the years,
where you know, fans feel like they can come on
the court or touch players and things like that is
leading to situations that we can avoid if more conversations
were right now.

Speaker 2 (01:05:42):
For an otherwise smart man, I was a little bit
disappointed in that discourse. You know, listen, I guess the
only thing that I would say is a couple of things.
First of all, I haven't heard of anybody run on
the court because they.

Speaker 3 (01:05:55):
Lost to Parlay.

Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
Okay, Like, yes, fans should never be on the court,
you should never throw things out of court, et cetera.

Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
But let's call a spacea spaate here.

Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
The other thing is, like all of these conversations, the
league has made a lot of money off of these
gambling companies. We understand that. And guess who gets fifty
percent of all league revenue the players, And so it's
just one of those things where it's like, again, I
get the frustration, but to me to hear the head
of the players Association talking about that, like you yourself

(01:06:25):
are making not him personally, but yes, him personally, he's
making millions thanks to gambling the league. It's just I
don't know, it was just one thing. We don't have
to even spend too much time on it. But I
was just so just like rolled my eyes when I
heard that.

Speaker 4 (01:06:41):
Well, yes, I mean I think he's One of the
things he was saying is educate the players better about
what they're going to experience through this, as much as
maybe not necessarily like going quite to the extreme, you
just did in kind of framing what he was saying.
The only thing I would then say back to him is, well,

(01:07:02):
I mean, I've heard stories of a lot of you know,
people that have been involved in, you know, nefarious stuff,
coming in and talking to teams, both on the pro
level and especially on the college level and letting them know, hey,
don't get yourself in these situations where you can be compromised.
If you put yourself in a compromising position, you put

(01:07:24):
yourself in a position to be compromised. It's not always
just greed on the part of the individual that ends
up compromised. It's just being in the wrong place at
the wrong time, not having the wrong people or not
having the right people around you, and things like that.
I don't know that it was the most tactful way
or the I think that maybe what he was trying
to say got lost a little bit in translation there.

(01:07:48):
And I don't know that all those issues were related
to one another. Like what you were saying about the
players coming on to the court, I think he was
maybe talking about I think he might have been referring
to maybe maybe people come after you on social media
if you've cost them money, or something like that I
don't know obviously, Yeah, I don't think there's court incidents
like that. I think it's just the access. Maybe maybe

(01:08:09):
that's what he's talking about, is just there's a lot
more access to pro athletes than there used to be.
Because of social media, you can actually potentially get your
voice out there. Now it's amidst a bunch of other people.
But you know, there's always been ways if you really
wanted to to find your way into this situation. I
just think this has put everybody on the defensive and

(01:08:33):
so everybody is looking out for their own at this point.
You're exactly right, though. The players have become a lot
more wealthy as a result of this gambling partnership that
the pro sports leagues have participated in, particularly in the
NBA and things like that, and that's going to have
to be looked at potentially. I don't know that you

(01:08:53):
can stop that train, though. I think that it's so
far down the road now. I don't know how you're
able to actually pull back on what's going on. I mean,
you've even had in some cases, I think active athletes
in commercials for various you know, betting sites and Lebron
exact segue.

Speaker 2 (01:09:12):
I mean, every time I turn on Thursday Night football,
I see Lebron and Kevin hart yucking it up in
the DraftKings commercial. So I mean, let's I guess that
is a natural segue. I mean I referenced it earlier. Listen,
We're not pointing any fingers. I'm just stating a fact.
Is that, well two facts. Actually, one part of this
was Damon Jones was involved. Damon Jones, former teammate of

(01:09:32):
Lebron's Damon Jones giving information to players or two gamblers.
Excuse me about Lebron's who we believe to be Lebron's status?
It was an anonymous player. Uh, it was a Bucks
Lakers game. Lebron did not play that game. I'm not
accusing anyone of anything, but you can put two and
two together that it was almost certainly Lebron. And then

(01:09:53):
it is also worth noting Chauncey Billups did show up
in court the other day in a clutch T shirt.

Speaker 4 (01:09:59):
So yeah, there's no question there was something behind that. Like,
I just I don't think we can be naive enough
to think that him wearing that, I mean, there was
nothing else on that piece of clothing, which was not
an appealing piece of clothing in the first place. There
was nothing there except that logo, and it wasn't even
really a logo. It was just kind of block print,
like there was nothing impressive about it in any way,

(01:10:20):
shape or form. To when I saw it, it was
just kind of like, Okay, well someone is trying to
be seen here in a certain way, and it was
let's just say it was striking. It was very It
was not subtle in any way, shape or form.

Speaker 3 (01:10:36):
What do you think is next?

Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
Because you know, I think the one thing that the
FBI made clear is that they're not done.

Speaker 1 (01:10:43):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:10:43):
I will say, you know, I can go back to,
you know, somebody who loves and covers college basketball. You know,
there was the FBI scandal in twenty seventeen, and the
famous quote from that was we quote have your playbook,
And there was this insinuation that all you know, they
were going to bring down a bunch of other people,
and nothing really came of it after the initial arrest.
But I will say, I think, you know the only

(01:11:04):
thing that I will say, I don't have to name names,
don't have to name teams, don't have to name players.
But I think the idea that you know, this is
all buttoned up and there's nothing to see here, and
Terry Rozier is the only one that's gotten crossed hairs
with with with with you know, maybe the wrong people
and whatever.

Speaker 4 (01:11:23):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:11:24):
I just I don't know what's next. I'm not gonna
start pointing fingers at who I think. And I know
you were joking tongue in cheek about you know, college football.
Today people were saying, FBI investigate that guy, Investigate that guy.

Speaker 3 (01:11:36):
It does just feel like though.

Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
This is not the end, and that Terry Rozier isn't
the only player, you know, I certainly hope Chauncey Billips
is the only head coach. But and by the way,
there's already been reports about, you know, some of these
poker games that Chauncey Billbps was involved in, former players
or current players.

Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
Being there as well.

Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
I know it's impossible to ask, but it just doesn't
feel like we're anywhere close to done on this.

Speaker 4 (01:11:59):
No, there's no way this investigation, I'm sure, I think
even Cash Pttel said it's ongoing, but it's gonna be
a lot. There's gonna be a lot more that comes
from this. I don't think this is one of those
where it's all, we're gonna find out a lot more
and we find out nothing. Are we gonna find out everything? No,
there's always gonna be some part of this that some

(01:12:19):
some people that get away with it, or some people
that just kind of find their way off the front
pages when it comes to this stuff. But I just
feel like there is way too much here and there's
I think there's too much to be gained. Now. If
you talk about compromising, you think about all of that, well,
you can be compromised in the other direction as well,

(01:12:39):
and you can start singing. If it's gonna preserve you,
it's gonna put you in a better situation and it
doesn't take much. And if you've got enemies and anybody
knows what you're doing, then that's not gonna help your
cause either. So I think that there's going to be
a massive name involved in this at some point. I

(01:13:00):
don't know who, I don't know when, I don't know
how it's gonna come out. I just feel like we
still haven't gotten huge names. With all due respect again
to the guys that have been named at this point,
that's not exactly you know, you didn't get Michael Jordan here,
for instance, You've got other guys. And I even heard

(01:13:21):
Fanci say this, and I thought this was interesting. He goes, look,
we know for a fact that Michael Jordan didn't do
this because he had so much money he could never
get himself in trouble with a bookmaker to where he
would ever have to do something like this. Most guys
are not in that spot. I even saw like there's
odds now as who's the next guy, Oh, you're gonna

(01:13:43):
get tagged? And number one was Kevin Garnett, Yeah, which
which I found really interesting. But I was like, is
that because he was in uncut Gems guys? Like, I understand,
there's other things you could say there, but like the
first thing I thought, I was like, well.

Speaker 2 (01:13:56):
He was in a movie about well no I So
that was like Pablo Torre my new enemy here. Off
of my Belichick tweet the other day, he did put
out something about Kevin Garnett potentially being at one of
those poker games that Chauncey Billbs was involved in. Now
I did not see an update to it. I did

(01:14:17):
not see if he specified like, you know, was he
part of you know Was he part of the was
he a victim of whatever? Was he a perpetrator. I'm
gonna see if I can find it really quick.

Speaker 4 (01:14:30):
Let me see here.

Speaker 2 (01:14:31):
Pablo Torre has been tweeting up a storm here forgive me. Yeah,
I can't find it here off the top of my head.
He did reference something about Kevin Garnett yesterday though, so
that was part here it is.

Speaker 3 (01:14:43):
Let me see if I can find this really quick.

Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
So Pablo Torre did tweet out on October twenty fourth,
which was yesterday at eight thirty two am updated. A
number of former pro athletes played at private poker games
organized by those indicted by the DOJ in Operation World Flush.
One of them, a core multiple sources with direct knowledge
of a game that took place, was Kevin Garnett. Now,

(01:15:06):
he followed up with a source close to Kevin Garnette
tells Pablo Torre finds out that Garnett initially thought he
was going to a quote after party, not a poker game,
and that he chose to leave the poker game, which
was in LA early per the source, Kevin Garnett has
not been contacted by federal authorities. So so yeah, I
think I think Paulatoria put the name out there, and

(01:15:28):
it was like, I better make sure to put that
caveat because if he was obviously not involved, you know, Papa.

Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
Deformation, legal troubles.

Speaker 4 (01:15:36):
So yeah, so there's gonna be more. I think that's
the biggest thing, is like that this story is just
beginning to unravel. And the other thing is this, when
we get to quote unquote the end of this story,
this is going to keep happening. That's the other thing,
Like there's always going to be something going on like this,
and probably increasingly so, and then we just have to wonder.

(01:15:58):
I think the next question is just going to be, well,
what other leagues are involved? Because there's it's not isolated
to Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier and Damon Jones and
John tay Porter. It's it's it's not just these guys.
So I think it's just what are what is the
next shoot to drop? And it's just when is that

(01:16:20):
big name that's gonna be on the front of the
New York Times because that's coming at some point.

Speaker 2 (01:16:25):
Fascinating conversation and to the point that Jaymartin made that
I made feels like we are just at the tip
of the iceberg Fox Sports Radio Eron Toris Jason Martin.

What is trending a lot of college football to get to?
With the LSU home loss tonight, can we just say
that if you go by who was in the preseason
top ten this year, we've already had nineteen losses from

(01:17:38):
preseason top ten teams.

Speaker 7 (01:17:40):
We are still in October. People, there is only one
late game tonight. Colorado's up to thirty yards passing. Now
it's Utah still forty three to nothing over the Buffalos
in the third quarter of play Colorado. You know in
college football stats, when you get sacked, it goes against
your rushing totals. They've been sacked five times. So if
you look at the Colorado stats as a team on

(01:18:01):
the ground, it's twenty four carries and one yard rushing
at Utah.

Speaker 3 (01:18:07):
I'm not going to win you many games.

Speaker 7 (01:18:09):
Wow, Nebraska beat Northwestern today. Rutger's got two late field
goals to win at Purdue, which is zho and five
in conference, and CBS I'm sure is doing backflips over
the Saturday afternoon games they have now on their new
Minnesota Iowa Baby Iowa forty one to three. The final
Friday Night, Boise State went to four and oh in
the Mountain West, winning easily at last place Nevada. San

(01:18:30):
Diego State's undefeated in the Mountain West after a shutout
victory at Fresno State Today twenty three nothing. Auburn outscored
Arkansas seventeen to nothing fourth quarter for a road win.
Auburn thirty three, twenty four Arkansas OH to four in
Conference UMass oh and eight overall after losing at Central
Michigan and Miami Ohio.

Speaker 8 (01:18:50):
I remember that used.

Speaker 7 (01:18:51):
To be the team that would be near winless Miami
Ohio four and oh in the MAC after a big
comeback at home to beat Western Michigan outscored them seventeen
nothing in the fourth quarter. About a decade ago, Miami
Ohio did have a winless season, but it seemed like
every year you could count on them to be one
of the two to ten touch clubs.

Speaker 4 (01:19:08):
No more.

Speaker 7 (01:19:10):
Great matchup in FCS tonight, battle of seven and O teams.
North Dakota State dominates the first half and wins thirty
eight to seven at South Dakota State. As for the
top ten in Division one, shall we call it football
number two? Indiana fifty six to six over UCLA. Yes,
the Bruins took the l badly again twelve drives, twelve

(01:19:30):
first downs, three turnovers. Hoosiers play at Maryland and then
at Penn State the next two games. Number one ranked
Ohio State seven and zero was off today. It'll host
Penn State next Saturday on Fox TV. Number three Texas
A and M wins at LSU, even though it trailed
at halftime eighteen fourteen. Then the Aggi scored five straight
touchdowns in the second half forty nine twenty five. The

(01:19:52):
final A and M quarterback Marcel Reid two touchdown passes,
two touchdown runs, two interceptions as well. Win for fourth
ranked Alabama was twenty nine twenty two at South Carolina,
with two touchdowns in the last two and a half
minutes and a force fumble in between. Bama is seven
and one off next week. Number six Oregon twenty one
seven over Wisconsin. The Badgers have lost six in a row,

(01:20:15):
but at least they scored in this one. Last three
games they have seven points total. Wisconsin is off next week,
and I'm sure somebody in that pause is six.

Speaker 8 (01:20:24):
Seems like they've been off for many weeks to know.

Speaker 7 (01:20:26):
Number seven Georgia Tech forty one sixteen over Syracuse Georgia
Tech eight and oh they'll play at NC State and
then at BC next Thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:20:36):
Very much to Sega apologize a little bit of a
shorter segment there, butts, we got a lot to talk about.

A lot to get to, lot to react to. Just
a few minutes, we'll bring on Mazi Belanios. She is
the co host of the Sick podcast. You can also
hear her on Fox Sports Radio. Knows the Dodgers better
than anyone I know, except for to Sayer, of course,
so she'll come on talk a little Game two, preview

(01:21:37):
Game three before we do.

Speaker 3 (01:21:38):
J mart I did see this. I thought it was
pretty funny.

Speaker 2 (01:21:42):
So we talked a big story from college football on
Saturday night, LSU getting smacked at home by Texas A
and M I saw this apparently. Earlier in the week,
LSU announced that they would be raising season ticket prices
for twenty twenty six. The Twitter account of the Governor
of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, tweeted, quote, I think LSU Sports

(01:22:07):
and LSU's Board of Supervisors need to rethink their actions
to raise ticket prices for next year after tonight's show bikes. So,
if you want to know how things are going in
Louisiana right now, when the governor is kind of weighing
in on the state of the program, Jay mart I
don't think that bodes super well for the future of
Brian Kelly in that job.

Speaker 4 (01:22:29):
Well again, I mean, perhaps they saw this coming and
the reason they're raising the prices is to pay for
the buyer. If they said that, that's the whole idea.

Speaker 3 (01:22:38):
I think if they said that publicly, it would.

Speaker 4 (01:22:41):
Yeah, people would pay. I think at this point, I
think everybody's done, and probably even Brian Kelly's like, yeah,
you know what, I probably need to go somewhere else
like this. It's just it's bad now. And this was again,
if this is if this tonight was a competitive, knockdown,
drag out out, back and forth brawl and A and

(01:23:02):
M got the better of them. I don't know that
it's the end of the world, but they got absolutely
crushed in the second half of that game, just embarrassed
on their home field in prime time at night. By
the end of the thing, the stadium's almost empty. That's
not LSU's that's just flat out not gonna it's not
going to go. And I think he will finish the season,

(01:23:26):
but I don't see any universe where he is the
head coach at LSU next year.

Speaker 2 (01:23:31):
By the way, I'm now just seeing this about the game.
Uh oh no, no, no, it's not well, it's not good.

Speaker 4 (01:23:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:23:38):
Brian Kelly's birthday October twenty fifth, nineteen sixty one. So
today was Brian Kelly's birthday. Oh my goodness, it's unbelievable, unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (01:23:52):
Yikes.

Speaker 3 (01:23:53):
So yeahs LSU falling in LSU falling.

Speaker 2 (01:23:59):
Ann We are efforting Manzi Blanios to talk Game three
or Game two of the World Series. Obviously the big
story there. The Dodgers tie up the series one game apiece.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto the Complete Game, the first pitcher since Kurt
Shilling in two thousand one to pitch back to back

(01:24:23):
complete games. Jmar Quick thoughts as the series shifts back
to La tied at a game apiece.

Speaker 4 (01:24:30):
We have a series. That's what I set off the start,
and I hope that this one's gonna go awhile and look,
things can get out of hand in a hurry in
the Dodgers building, and Toronto needs to guard against Game
three going very against them. You lose that thing, but
it's competitive. It's one thing, but if they get on
a roll, it's going to be very hard to turn

(01:24:51):
that momentum back. Even though I know series a lot
of times one game to the next is not a
great story to be able to tell in terms of
sometimes it's overblown as to how things go. But I
just feel like the momentum with the Dodgers, if they
go up to one and look dominant doing it, it's
going to be very hard for Toronto to be able
to fight back out of that thing. So I think

(01:25:13):
Game three is pivotal, not just because it usually is
in a series like this, but generally speaking, just because
they need to make sure that that crowd does not
become a massive factor for the rest of the series.

Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
Well, I'll tell you what, there is no one that
knows more about the Dodgers than someone you can hear
before Us every Saturday from eight pm Eastern to eleven
pm Eastern five to eight Pacific alongside Martin Weiss. Maazi
Bolanios also hosts the sick podcast The Dodgers Zone, Long
History being around the Dodgers. Mazzi Bolanos, what's going on?

(01:25:51):
And listen all of America heard your takes on Game
two of the World Series, which came to an end
during your Guys show. But your first reaction to the
Dodgers winning five to one in Game two to tie
the series up.

Speaker 13 (01:26:03):
I mean a little bit of a sigh release. I
am not gonna lie. Thank you for having me so
excited to be hanging out with you guys and talking
about this because going into this series, I the Dodgers, like,
let's sere real, the Dodgers are the better team. You
can just look at the roster and you're like, yeah,
the Dodgers of obviously, who's been so much money? That's

(01:26:24):
the joke this season? Why not ruin baseball? More and
have the Dodgers win another one. They do have the
better roster. I mean there's three MVPs on it, and
the questions have been regarding the bullpen. During the regular
season the most loan saved. I think we were like
up to like twenty seven at some point, Like it's
just it was ridiculous. But going into this game, I

(01:26:46):
thought Toronto would win Game one because the vibes are high.
When was the last time they played in a World Series.
It's been a long time. The excitement was there. It
was a long seven game series against the Mariners. So
I was like, Toronto will will win Game one, and
then I think the Dodgers will have a gentleman's sleep

(01:27:07):
and win everything in LA. That's what I thought. And
then I saw Game one and I was like, oh,
I mean Toronto's plan was executed perfectly. Now I think
Milwaukee tried to execute the exact same plan that Toronto executed.
It just didn't work out for them. Milwaukee is very
similar to the way Toronto plays, but Toronto's a little

(01:27:28):
bit better at everything. They're really smart. They do all
the basic things really well, and then they make contact,
they stay at they fight. You at the plate like
they do all their little things really well, and the
Dodgers sometimes tend to be a little bit more dramatic,
so you just don't know what you're gonna get. But
you know, Game one, Toronto goes out. They went and

(01:27:50):
they dominate in a fashion where I was like, Oh,
this is what this is what Milwaukee wanted to do.
They wanted, you know, Blake Snell to have thirty freaking
pitches in the first inning, like you wanted to chip
away and get to the bullpen. That is what the
walk you wanted to do. They just never got to
do it. They just didn't get to Here's Toronto, and

(01:28:11):
in Game one they execute it perfectly. They I think
their game plan was just like fight at the plate.
I don't care if you end up striking out, if
you end up flying a pop out, fly whatever, it is.
Just fight at the plate for as long as you can,
tiring it out, get the bullpen out. And it works
for them and they won convincingly. So it made me

(01:28:33):
feel a little bit like, oh, what is this feeling
so sudden and new because I did not expect that
type of dominant performance from Toronto. Here we come to
game two, and now I've breathed a sigh of relief
because now I'm like, yes, Dodgers, thank you, Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Like,
Unfortunately for you, my guy, you are like the fifth

(01:28:55):
MVP on this roster, so you're not getting the credit
that you deserve because you have we are surrounded by
so much talent in some of these stars that you
are not getting the credit you deserve. But in the
short amount of time that we have seen Yoshinobu Yamamoto
in these two years of the Dodgers, like, you cannot
say that he is not part of the success that

(01:29:16):
the Dodgers have had and what he has done. We
have seen him get rocked by teams like the Milwaukee Brewers,
We've seen him get rocked by the Chicago Cubs. We've
seen him have really rough outings. But at the same time,
this guy has lived up to the contract of a
player who had never played in America in Major League

(01:29:36):
Baseball that got over three hundred million dollars with a
team that had never really seen him. He has lived
up to the expectation. And it's just like he's probably
not going to win the side young It's probably going
to go to Paul's teas, but he may get a
couple of votes, like he should be talked about. He
is a part of the success and it is just
not going to get the credit because of the people
that are surrounding him on the roster. And I know

(01:29:59):
all that was long winded, but I just needed to
get it all out back to you guys.

Speaker 4 (01:30:03):
Wow, I mean that's pretty pros such MONSI So, are
you back to the gentleman's sweet feeling after watching Game
two or do you feel like this is going to
go longer than you thought based on what you saw
in Game one.

Speaker 13 (01:30:15):
I think anything can happen, right like, especially in baseball,
Like the best team doesn't necessarily win. We literally have
seen that not long ago with the Rangers and the
Diamondbacks in the World Series and then both of them
did not make the postseason the following year. The best
team doesn't necessarily win. I understand that, but I am
back on that feeling. I feel like you're going to
come back to LA. You are feeling high Tyler Glass

(01:30:38):
Now there's no reason to not trust in what Tyler
Glasnak can do. And also then we have I'm sorry,
what's his name all right, shoheo, Tommy coming onto the map,
who literally lives up to every single moment possible. I am.
I think this does end in La And I'm not
saying Toronto is not going to put up a fight.

(01:30:58):
That's not it. I think they're all gonna be very
close games. But I do think the Dodgers right now,
it seems like things are just clicking for the team
that has so many that has so many stars on
their roster. It's just right now, this is the time.
And as obviously we don't get to the bullpen, We're
gonna be fine. Just don't go to the bullpen.

Speaker 3 (01:31:20):
That was gonna be my follow up. Manzi Blania was
joining us.

Speaker 2 (01:31:22):
You can hear her eight to eleven Eastern, five to
eight Pacific here on Fox Sports Ready with Martin Weiss,
also the co host of the sick podcast Dodgers Zone
with Ryan Bursinger and Bo Benson.

Speaker 3 (01:31:33):
But so let me ask you this, J Martin. I
asked J mart this an hour one.

Speaker 2 (01:31:37):
Is that basically like it feels like like now it's
really convenient. You know, you mentioned this off the top
Mazi about like, oh, Dodgers ruined baseball blah blah, blah blah.
I don't feel like anyone was having that conversation three
weeks ago when the team was struggling down the stretch.
I know, they won ninety three games in the regular season.

(01:31:58):
It's not like they didn't have a great regular but
they weren't the best team in the NL. To the
Sager's point, they had the third best record of the
three division winners. When did it become like, a, oh,
the Dodgers are this unstoppable freight train?

Speaker 3 (01:32:12):
Was it the Philly series? Was it all along?

Speaker 2 (01:32:14):
Because I just don't feel like people were talking about
the Dodgers like this, say, four or five weeks ago,
and now it just feels convenient to start talking about
them like this now that they're having success.

Speaker 13 (01:32:25):
Convenient, I mean, it is convenient. You're not wrong about that, Aaron,
But you're also not wrong that we weren't saying this
five weeks ago because the Dodgers did not beat the Phillies.
The Phillies just couldn't win, That's true. Like the Dodgers
just were like, all right, so we're gonna walk away
from this winning the series? Are real quietly, let's not
talk about it. They did not win that series. Phillies

(01:32:48):
just literally could not win. Oran Kirkeren in that moment
like just lost it and going to first place is
what we are all thought. If you played softball, baseball,
anything like that, you know, go to first base, everything
that could go wrong to the Phillies in that moment,
it seemed to just benefit the Dodgers. And I will
credit you know, my co host for the sick podcast,

(01:33:10):
Dodgers On Bill Benson did say, Phillies or Dodgers will
win the World Series, whoever comes out of this. He
felt like they were the strongest. And at the same
time it was like the Dodgers did not win that
the philly is just gonna win it. Then you get
to the Brewers, and the question is did the Dodgers
expose the Brewers or were the Brewers just flat at
their bats on the offense. I think it was just

(01:33:33):
the Brewers plan did not happen, which was to get
to the bullpen. We had Blake Snow basically walk so
yoshinobu Ya Yamamoto could run in the second game and
finish it out and then like show hey Otani and
that incredible outing that he had again Tyler Glasnel like,
I don't think everyone was expecting the starting rotation, including myself,

(01:33:53):
to just kind of flip the switch. You hate that expression.
You don't want to hear it, because then what's the
point of a one hundred and you know, sixty two
season game, Like, if you're just gonna turn it on,
that's annoying to hear. And I think a lot of
us just did not think. There's no way the entire
starting rotation is going to just turn the switch on

(01:34:14):
and we're gonna dominate the Brewers. I did not I
did not expect that at all. What Otani did and
is outing on an elimination game for Milwaukee when there
was pride involved. It wasn't just like they punted that game.
They did not want to go out that way. And
Otani again delivered in a way we've never seen before.
We had all of we've had all of this talent

(01:34:36):
all season and all year, it just has never come together.
And you were like, there's no way it can all
possibly come together against the Brewers, and it did so
for me, that's when I saw the gap of like
the talent for the Dodgers. I was like, this is
this is the best team right now. This is the
best team now. It's Toronto. Not a good team, No,

(01:34:59):
they're really good team. This isn't like an eight seed
and a one seed, you know what I mean? This
just like this is like a like a like a
one seed facing like a like a four seed. In
my opinion of like the talent level, it's so kN
Toronto do this, absolutely, And I don't think it's going
to be easy for the Dodgers to finish this gentleman's sweep.

(01:35:20):
I just think they have to be smart. You can't
make mental mistakes. But if the pitching is as good
as it's been, I just don't see how the Dodgers
don't win this.

Speaker 4 (01:35:30):
So do you understand why a lot of the rest
of the country that isn't out there kind of doesn't
care for the Dodgers, like a lot of what you
just laid out. I think that if you don't see
it from the full on perspective, Manzie, then you see
that switch flipping a noise everybody, everybody that's not a
Dodgers fan, Because I compared it to being down fifty

(01:35:52):
and then your team comes back and takes the lead
but then loses by three, it's like, just go ahead
and kill me. Just go ahead and go go ahead
and win in forty games in the regular season and dominate,
because that's what you're supposed to do. But when you're
sort of middle of the road, get into the playoffs
and then you're exactly what we were told that you
were supposed to be and what we thought you were

(01:36:12):
gonna be, is just like, why did I waste my
time for the last five months?

Speaker 7 (01:36:18):
Yeah, no, totally.

Speaker 13 (01:36:19):
I understand the haters I would be hating to. I
absolutely are the Evil Empire, and I really do get it.
I would probably feel the same way. But in my defense,
I will say I'm all about dynasties. Like the Kansas
City Chiefs do not bother me in any way, shape
or form. And I am not a Chief fan. I'm
a Chargers fan. I'm all for dynasties. I think they're

(01:36:41):
good to the sport. And like I've done a lot
of hate watching, so you know, like people are gonna
hate watch the World Series, but they gonna they're gonna
watch it. You can hate the Dollar's all you want.
But like there's so much talent on that roster that
like I mean today We'll Smith another player that like
does not get the credit he deserves because of the

(01:37:02):
people he's playing with. But Will Smith is a huge
part of the success. He took a friendly deal, he
took a friendly extension to stay with the Dodgers. Like
we have so much talent, and like, I totally get
the hate for the Dodgers. I get it. I would
probably feel the same way if I was not in
LA and I was not a Dodger fan. But what

(01:37:24):
are you gonna do here? We are hate watch all
you want? You get to watch a unicorn. Let's go.
Come on, How great would it be. It's like, oh,
next year, everybody will hate the Dodgers even more when
they went back to back and then it'll be even
a funner to watch that season. How everyone's just holding
the Dodgers to lose. I'm all for dynasties, I really am.
I think they're great for the sports.

Speaker 3 (01:37:45):
There you go, Manzi Blanio.

Speaker 2 (01:37:46):
So you can hear her every Saturday here on Fox
Sports Radio eight to eleven Eastern, five to eight Pacific.
You can also listen to the Sick podcast The Dodger Zone. Mazzi,
we appreciate your time. You know, i'd say enjoy Game three,
four and five, but it sounds just like a formality
that they're gonna win.

Speaker 3 (01:38:04):
So I don't even know.

Speaker 2 (01:38:05):
Yeah, I know our bosses if Fox want us to
tune in, but Manzi said it, this series is basically over.

Speaker 13 (01:38:11):
So again, I also said Toronto, Toronto is gonna put
up a fight. I just do think the Dodgers when guys,
thank you so much for having me on. I know
I was long winded, but there's so much to it,
and I appreciate you letting me let it out because
when I was watching the game live with Mary and
he was working, I was watching the game, so I couldn't,
you know, vent all of my feelings. So I appreciate

(01:38:32):
you having me on.

Speaker 3 (01:38:33):
Guys, no prom I'll tell you what.

Speaker 2 (01:38:35):
If this series goes exactly opposite of what you said,
there will be a Game seven on next Saturday. We'll
have you back on. But I I'm great, we'll put
you in pencil on the rundown. I'm not gonna put
it in pen because I think the Dodgers will have
wrapped this up before then.

Speaker 3 (01:38:49):
Thank you, Mantzu appreciate the time.

Speaker 13 (01:38:51):

(01:39:33):
of the NFL, including I'm sure this might be breaking
news to you, Aaron Rodgers playing his former team.

Speaker 3 (01:39:39):
Oh yeah, yeah. No one has talked about that all week.

Speaker 4 (01:39:42):
I haven't heard it. I thought it was gonna be
a big deal, but it's just like kind of flown
completely under the radar.

Speaker 2 (01:39:48):
Listen, no one anywhere on Fox Sports, not well, everyone
on Fox Sports Radio, did everywhere else in the sports media.
I think they must have just misread the schedule. I
haven't heard it talked about anywhere, so we'll discuss it
all next.

Speaker 4 (01:39:59):

Speaker 2 (01:40:35):
We're gonna discuss Aaron Rodgers versus his former team in
just one moment. Before we do, though final time this evening,
let's get an update on what's trending with Steve Disager.

Speaker 3 (01:40:45):
The floor is yours, my friend.

Speaker 7 (01:40:46):
All right, Before we get to the World Series, did
you notice the MLB Commissioner Rob Manfrid spoke to the
media as he does every World Series, and among the
things he talked about, he reiterated that before he plans
to retire after the twenty eight season, he intends to
select two new cities for MLB expansion, and Nashville is
said to be considered a front runner for one of

(01:41:08):
the two teams. We know the Oakland A's are moving
out of northern California.

Speaker 8 (01:41:12):
To Vegas in a few years.

Speaker 7 (01:41:14):
Obviously, there have been questions this week seeing the Canadian
fans rallying around Toronto, is Montreal getna get a team back?
You know, Vladimir Guerrero junior, superstar for the Blue Jays,
is Canadian.

Speaker 8 (01:41:26):
He was born.

Speaker 3 (01:41:26):
Wow, that was born in Montreal.

Speaker 7 (01:41:29):
Because his dad, vlad Senior, played for the Montreal Expos.
By the way, this two things now I categorically reject
in baseball one that we talked about earlier, this is
not a David versus Goliath World Series matchup. Two, that
there was some sort of sandbagging going on by the
Dodger roster as if they actually wanted to play the

(01:41:50):
wild arts courts.

Speaker 4 (01:41:51):
They did not.

Speaker 2 (01:41:52):
And I think the other thing too is, you know
everyone spent so much time time about the bullpen. That's
why Yamamoto's going nine innings. Yes, because yeah, you're not
gonna throw him nine innings on July twenty eighth against
the Cubs. Right, But if that's your weakness and your strength,
is the starting pitching one of many strengths.

Speaker 3 (01:42:13):
Yeah, it's common sense.

Speaker 4 (01:42:14):
Yeah, no one thinks. No one thinks they're like laying
down during regular season. It's just they didn't perform up
to what you thought they were going to correct, and
so it got competitive enough that other teams had hope,
and then it was like, oh wait, but there's still
this roster, and then you see that in the playoffs
and it just it just kind of like brings you
back down to earth.

Speaker 7 (01:42:34):
I wouldn't even say roster, I'd say starting pitching specific
because there have been some low scoring games with the
starting pitchers. The last couple weeks have largely been so
phenomenal people don't really notice. But these are starting pitchers
that largely were not available due to injuries at many
points during the season. Shoheo Tani is a good example,
because he was coming off a serious arm injury, and if.

Speaker 8 (01:42:57):
You overwork him at all, you lose a pitcher.

Speaker 7 (01:43:00):
And your DH and that wasn't gonna happen Dodgers are
even at a game apiece in the World Series after
winning at top seed Toronto tonight five to one in
a game that was tied one to one.

Speaker 8 (01:43:10):
In the seventh.

Speaker 7 (01:43:11):
Will Smith a RBI single in the first solo homer
in the seventh. In between, every Dodger was retired by
Kevin Gosman seventeen in a row, and yet he took
the loss because Yoshinobu Yamamoto was so great again last
week against Milwaukee, a complete game form tonight a complete game,
four hitter, eight strikeouts, no walks. Series tied at a
game apiece. All the games are on Fox TV at

(01:43:33):
about eight pm Eastern time. Game three is Monday Night.
In LA games Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. By the way,
Toronto hasn't won it all since nineteen ninety two and
ninety three. In other words, most of their roster was
not born back then. Dodgers are defending champs, Mariners and
Brewers still have never won a World Series. In the NHL,

(01:43:53):
Florida shut out Vegas three to nothing, and Ottawa won
seven to one at Washington. The NBA late game went
to Denver, ripping Penix triple double for Nicola Jokic Oklahoma
City's three to zero, including a couple of double overtime wins,
and then Tonight's victory at Atlanta won seventeen to one hundred.
Chet Holmgren thirty one points, Shay Giljos Alexander with thirty
the NFL News, the Falcons will likely start quarterback Kirk Cousins.

(01:44:16):
Michael Pennix was questionable with the bone bruise in his knee.
Atlanta host Miami. The Jets will have to start quarterback
Justin Fields as to Rod Taylor is out with a
knee injury. Oh and seven Jets Sunday at Cincinnati, and
Sauce Gardner defensive back is out and wide receiver Garrett
Wilson of the Jets is out. The Baltimore Ravens have
lost four in a row. They're hosting Chicago and quarterback

(01:44:37):
of the ravens Lamar Jackson is out again Sunday with
his hamstring injury. He's been out for about a month.
For those who didn't hear, wide receiver aj Brown out
for the Eagles this weekend. Wide receiver Nico Collins out
for the Texans. Forty nine ers quarterback brock perty is
out again. They still have the top rank passing attack
and this is going to be six games missed by
PERTY already this year. Panthers quarterback Bryce Young was listed.

(01:45:00):
It is doubtful with a high ankle sprain, So it
looks like Andy Dalton do to start college football. Number
three Texas A and M trailed at LSU at the
half and still beat the Tigers forty nine twenty five.
Fourth ranked Alabama won at South Carolina twenty nine twenty
two with two touchdowns in the last two and a
half minutes. Old miss ranked eighth one at Oklahoma thirty
four to twenty six, and tenth ranked Vanderbilt on a

(01:45:22):
touchdown with under two minutes to go edge Fifteenth rank
Missouri seventeen to ten. The late game has under seven
minutes to go. It's now Utah forty six to seven
over Colorado. Current rushing stats including the sacks Colorado thirty
two carries twenty nine yards rushing including the five sacks
they have suffered. Sixteenth rank Virginia won in overtime at

(01:45:43):
North Carolina Number twenty two. Texas went in overtime at
Mississippi State. Memphis upset Number eighteen South Florida, outscoring him
seventeen to nothing in the fourth quarter thirty four to
thirty one. In the final, Washington upset Illinois. Houston held
on to win at Arizona State cent a reminder, the
first college football playoff rankings come out in a week
and a half. It'll be November soon.

Speaker 2 (01:46:05):
Back to you, Thank you very much, Steve the Sager
to Saga, have a great evening, great weekend. By the way,
your Sunday partner Chris Plank made a cameo on College
Game Day today sort of.

Speaker 4 (01:46:18):
Yeah, I saw that they were showing like footage.

Speaker 3 (01:46:21):
Yes, yes, radio I think yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:46:24):
So essentially, Lane Kiffin unofficially accused Brent Venables of stealing signs.
Oh yes, and they showed Brent Venables follow up, which
was on one of his coaches shows, which of course
is co hosted by Fox Sports Radios. Chris Planke, there
you go. So I immediately texted Arnie Spaniard and said,
quit slacken.

Speaker 3 (01:46:42):
When are you going to get on college Day?

Speaker 8 (01:46:43):
Yeah? Never, he doesn't leave the house.

Speaker 7 (01:46:46):
No, I know, yeah, I don't to actually move to
leave the house, all right, to Sager.

Speaker 2 (01:46:52):
We'll have a great evening with those fellas, but Plake
was didn't make a brief cameo on College Game Day
Fox Sports Radio rators Jason Martin, you know we haven't.
This is it's crazy how College Football World Series game
to this crazy NBA story. We haven't talked much NFL
A little bit of a lighter week, I would say,

(01:47:12):
j Martin, you know, it's just one of those deals.
It's that time of year. We got a bunch of
teams on a bye. Detroit's on a by, Rams are
on a by. Seattle, who of course is tied to
top that division, is on a bye, So not a
monster slate on Sunday. But the game that everybody is
intrigued by, there is no doubt, is the Sunday night
game Green Bay at Pittsburgh. Tongue in cheek, we were

(01:47:35):
joking before, Yeah, Aaron Rodgers facing his former team. All
sorts of conversations about that game, you know, all sorts
of conversations about that game over the course of the week.
Aaron Rodgers saying, oh, you know, yeah, I plan on
retiring a Packer and this and that anyway I bring
it up. The Steelers are at home. It's their first

(01:47:57):
game since that Thursday night debacle against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Packers traveling to Pittsburgh. Your thoughts on this game.

Speaker 4 (01:48:05):
I mean, it's definitely interesting. I mean it's right for
a story and it's perfect. It's a perfect week because,
as you mentioned, the storylines aren't quite as riviting as
they often are from a week to week's basis in
the NFL. And you have Rogers and the Packers, and
it's been a storyline for so long, and now you

(01:48:28):
have it right there in front of your face, and
you have it where Pittsburgh's playing pretty well, although the
defense is maybe not so much, but they're certainly scoring
the ball. And Aaron Rodgers all of a sudden, you know,
looks a little bit like there's still something left in
the tank there, especially when you put something around him
to help. But then Green Bay came into the season

(01:48:50):
and they were one of the favorites to win it all,
and I'm not I feel like something's missing with them,
Like I just don't fully, I don't fully trust them
right now. And I think we both have been on
this page about Jordan Love and it's just you kind
of like him, but you just not quite sure in
these big time moments and stuff like this, like this

(01:49:13):
is honestly the kind of game where I expect he's
going to be average at best. This is one. And look,
my prediction coming into the season was that Pittsburgh was
going to have a losing season and finally Tomlin was
not gonna be able to pull this out. And there's
still time for that to happen. But they've already been
better than I thought they were going to be, no

(01:49:33):
question about that. So there's a lot of meat on
the bow when it just comes to the storylines that
make a primetime matchup, you know, something a little bit
more than just what's on the field, But what's on
the field ought to be pretty intriguing as well, because
both these two teams have lofty aspirations for what they
can be doing at the end of the year, and
there's also some question marks about both defensive side of

(01:49:56):
the ball on both sides, and you know, Mike Parson
shows up a couple of different plays, or they might
have lost to Arizona and Jacoby Brissett. But that's why
you've got Michael Parsons to go make a play like that,
to go make a couple of plays like that. So
I definitely think it's the marquee matchup, and it's one
that I will be paying closer attention to because of

(01:50:18):
all the storylines surrounding it. It might not have my
attention quite as much if this was just any old
Steelers team from the last like five years, as opposed
to this one with this quarterback in this spot where
they're actually firing offensively.

Speaker 2 (01:50:35):
Yeah, and I think that's obviously and it goes without
saying it's not amazing analysis on my part, but it
becomes more interesting because it's so relevant for both teams.
You know, if it was just Aaron Rodgers playing the
Packers and you know it was the equivalent of his
Jets team last year and they're two and five, like,
it doesn't matter.

Speaker 4 (01:50:52):
But right like, if Justin Field is playing the Bears,
I don't care.

Speaker 2 (01:50:56):
That's totally fair, totally fair. Or Justin Field's playing the Steelers,
or so Wilson playing the Steelers.

Speaker 4 (01:51:01):
You're playing his own owner right now.

Speaker 2 (01:51:03):
Oh well, I'll tell you what, Ley, let's get that
sound up. Give us half a second, because you brought
this sound to my attention, do we have it available?
Woody Johnson was asked about the situation with Aaron Glenn.
JMRT was the one that actually put this on my radar.
Here is Woody Johnson talking about the coaching situation with
the Jets and how hot Aaron Glen's seat should be.

Speaker 9 (01:51:24):
It looks like he's turning around parts of it. You know,
it's hard when you have a quarterback with you.

Speaker 4 (01:51:29):
Know, with a rating that we've got.

Speaker 9 (01:51:33):
You knows, I mean, he has the ability, but something
just is not jiving. But if you look at any
any head coach or the quarterback like that, you're going
to see similar results if you will across the league.

Speaker 4 (01:51:42):
You have to play consistently at that position, and that's
what we're going to try to do.

Speaker 9 (01:51:48):
But we can just complete a pass, it would look good.

Speaker 4 (01:51:51):
You know, you got to complete some path. You got
to convince him that you can do something.

Speaker 3 (01:51:55):
That was Woody Johnson.

Speaker 4 (01:51:56):
Have you ever heard anything like that in your life?

Speaker 3 (01:51:59):
No, I don't think I've ever heard.

Speaker 2 (01:52:02):
And it's so it just speaks to like who Woody
Johnson is, who the Jets are? Yeah, and like why
they're so dysfunctional right cause like yes, I've.

Speaker 3 (01:52:13):
Heard like poor, poorly phrased.

Speaker 2 (01:52:17):
Explanations for stuff like, oh, we're defending our coach, but
it's not really convincing whatever. But the defense of the
coach is, oh, that quarterback that we gave a two
year deal to stinks and nobody could win with him.

Speaker 3 (01:52:31):
I don't know that I've ever heard.

Speaker 2 (01:52:32):
Anything quite like that. So to answer your question, no,
I've never heard anything like that.

Speaker 4 (01:52:36):
I mean I was blown away. He plays for you, man,
like you you're you're paying him, So yeah, you can
criticize him, but you're gonna do that publicly, Like I
just I heard that was just like how disrespectful. Like
I feel like that didn't get anywhere near as much
attention as shit. I mean, Sean Payton and Russell Wilson, yes,

(01:53:00):
was being talked about all week long, and yeah, we
can talk about that, But this right here is literally
the owner of the team suggesting that the quarterback is
a scrub, they can't complete a pass, that we can't
do anything with him as quarterback, like you're also making
sure that he has no value whatsoever. Like, but I mean,

(01:53:21):
I've just never heard that before while he's still employed,
like or at least not publicly, like behind closed doors
in certain conversations or whatever like that. Sure, I'm sure
things like that get said, but I mean this was
there for the whole world to hear, like, I don't
want to play for that guy if I'm anybody else,
even if I'm good, because it's just like it's a

(01:53:42):
cesspool there, it's a sewer, like this is why you
guys think year after year after year because of stuff
like this.

Speaker 3 (01:53:50):
That's exactly what it is.

Speaker 2 (01:53:51):
And you know, I think, and it's I'm sure it's
a conversation you and I have had before, but like
sometimes I think as a younger sports fan, you know,
you kind of realized, whether it was the Cleveland Browns,
whether it was you know, fill in the blank, NBA team,
major League Baseball, whatever, you'd be like, how are these
teams always so bad? And I think as I've gotten older,

(01:54:13):
you just kind of realize it starts at the top,
like there's no reason that any NFL franchise should be
as bad as consistently bad for as long as the
you know, as long as the as long as the
Jets have been, and you just realize it's it's the ownership.
And I don't know exactly why it's so bad. I
don't know how it got so bad, but it is

(01:54:34):
so bad, and and yeah it's bad for the Jets,
and I feel bad for Justin Fold.

Speaker 4 (01:54:40):
I'm just like, really, man, you had to say this
out loud about this guy. He knows he's not playing well.
Like I don't. This This was rough, man. I did
not like this at all.

Speaker 2 (01:54:49):
And to the point you made I don't, I'm actually
genuinely spread. I did not hear this until you texted
me about it, and then obviously I looked into it
and was surprised to your point that it hadn't gotten
more run than it did. So Fox Sports Radio aertors
Jason Martin, broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios, will.

Speaker 3 (01:55:08):

Bother way. I would listen to Bernie tonight for sure.
Like even if you don't regularly because you have to
go to bed or whatever like that, that's your fault.
But stay up tonight because look, I haven't talked to him,
so I don't know for sure here, but I imagine
he's gonna have some very very interesting worthy comments on

(01:56:20):
the NBA scandal.

Speaker 2 (01:56:22):
Bernie is good on everything, but on a topic like that, Yes,
there is literally no one I would argue, not only
not on Fox Sports Radio, anyone in the media that
I would want I would agree. Yeah, their opinion or
perspective on more than Bernie Frattle. He'll be following us
in nine minutes from now really quickly. J Mart, we
were talking about the sound from Woody Johnson earlier in

(01:56:43):
the week, not very flattering with his quarterback. Jets are
set to face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Bengals, of course,
coming off that Thursday night when Joe Flacco is the
quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals away from his family.

Speaker 3 (01:56:59):
Who is still in New Jersey. Interesting conversation.

Speaker 2 (01:57:02):
He was asked how he is spending his time alone
in Cincinnati. Mary mac plin sound.

Speaker 14 (01:57:07):
I think there's always a challenge of sitting in a
room by yourself and being lonely. So for me, it's
trying to find ways to maybe stay over here a
little bit longer, and then you know, just kind of
take myself out of that mindset, call home, go sit
at a restaurant by myself and realize that, man, that's
pretty enjoyable to do, you know. After there's not too

(01:57:30):
many situations I tell you, I tell people all the time.

Speaker 4 (01:57:33):
I used to see guys sitting.

Speaker 14 (01:57:34):
At a bar by themselves, or you know, just sitting
by themselves, eating and grabbing a little meal, and like, man,
I feel so bad for that guy. You almost want
to go join them. And now I realize, like that
dude was in heaven.

Speaker 3 (01:57:45):
That was Joe Flaco.

Speaker 2 (01:57:47):
I don't know if you heard that jaymart earlier this
week most relatable thing I have maybe ever heard from
an athlete. I don't know about you, but whenever I'm
traveling or just have a moment, there is nothing I
enjoy more than just pulling up a solo seat at
the bar, grabbing a you know, whatever's on the menu,
and just chilling out with nobody bothering me.

Speaker 4 (01:58:08):
So yeah, I mean, honestly, it's true. And and look,
I think that you you appreciate it more when it's
not constant. Like if you're single and you're doing that
every day all the time, then you know what Flacco's
saying there might not play quite as well. But if
you do have, you know, a family life, and you

(01:58:30):
are constantly surrounded by chaos, or you're just constantly surrounded
by stress or just something, there's always something, then yeah,
it does help. And for me, I'm that guy who
you will see out if i'm you know, if I
happen to be on a trip by myself, whatever, I'm

(01:58:50):
the one that's going to have the AirPods in or
the headphones in at the table, sometimes just one in
so I can still talk to the way to make
sure I get my drink refilled or just to answer
her questions. But generally I listen to podcasts when I
can eat by myself. You know, I'll go to like
a salad bar or something and get a couple of

(01:59:10):
plates and I'll sit there and I'll listen to a
couple of podcasts, and it's one of my favorite things
to do. And Flacco's point, there's all right, Like he's
just he's used to a certain thing and he's being
put in a position where he's seeing it from a
different perspective. And Yeah, that's totally relatable because I mean,
I feel like anybody that's had that experience, it's it's

(01:59:33):
it's a it's a great thing when done in moderation,
like most things are.

Speaker 2 (01:59:38):
Absolutely. Yeah, let's wrap the show real quick. When we're
on air next week. Brian Kelly is still the head
coach at LSU.

Speaker 4 (01:59:45):
Yes, I think that's an after season thing. I don't
think that's a James Franklin situation. I think that LSU
fans will probably resigned to their fate this year. I
think he will still be.

Speaker 2 (01:59:57):
There, so I tend to agree on that. Will will
there be a Game seven? When we get on air
next Saturday.

Speaker 4 (02:00:05):
No, I think it will end in six. I think
I think Toronto will get one more.

Speaker 2 (02:00:09):
There you go, tell you what we gotta get out
of here. Want to thank the crew. Oh we still
got a minute left though, darn it now I got
a vamp for thirty seconds.

Speaker 4 (02:00:16):
But so think about this, by the way, Oh good
sales in Fields does have to play now. So when
Woody Johnson said that maybe it was going to be
Tyrod Taylor will know he's out hurt. So Justin Field
is going to have to play. So the dude that
he flat out Barry is going to be playing against
Joe Flaccoo. Sounds like he's having the time of his life.

(02:00:37):
I would bet, I would bet very strongly that the
Bengals are going to be in good position after that game.

Speaker 3 (02:00:43):
What a weird situation with the Jets. Pretty much part
for the course. We got to get out of here.
I want to thank the crew. Mary Mack on.

Speaker 2 (02:00:49):
The boards, producer Lee to Lap love having Lee in
on a Saturday. Steve Disaga is always crushing for my
partner Jason Martin. I'm Mayre Taurus. Make sure to download
the podcast available shortly after we get off air, and
then as Jason said, make sure to follow and listen.
Bernie Fratto coming up next to He is going to
crush this NBA story as well as the rest of
a busy Saturday and sports Fox Sports.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there.
