Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ladies, you want experience during your football season, Well, buckle up,
sweet cheeks. We've got all the experience in the world.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
This is I want your flex.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
With Dan Bayer and Mike Harmon. Mike and Dan break
down everything you need to set your lineups, from position rankings.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
To starts and sits.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
The guys help you make those hard decisions. And now
let's get your flex on. Here's Dan Bayer and Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Well, the trade deadline is coming gone.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
We said we'd be back with a trade deadline episode, Mike.
I just didn't realize it would be an Ian Roddy
Jets only episode.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
It feels like, now I know.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
There were some other trades being MA able to get
to some of those as well. But before we get
to end, I mean, this was the Jets day on Tuesday.
Speaker 5 (00:54):
Well, they make their big push, right, all right, what
are we We're one and seven. Here's two stars that
we can go into the marketplace and start building towards
the future. And like, I can't argue with it. I
think in the end, you know, if you know what
you are, and we've talked about this a lot through
the years, Dan, it's like if you if I stink
(01:14):
with a guy, I can just as easily stink without
them and maybe bottom out to where those picks become
that more and much more valuable. Now on the other end, yeah,
I know, the thinking is, well, I mean, if this
team's really good, that picks not until the twenty it's like, well,
but then you can bundle.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Right.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
We talk about bundling services all the time, and our
you know, wireless plans and whatever else. It's the same
thing here, right, you package those up and go get
the guy, or try to get the guy you want.
So I like the aggressiveness with it of you know,
just recognizing where you're at and the continuum of these
thirty two teams and moving forward.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
I respect Ian's football knowledge. I respect Ian's football opinions.
So when I ask you as a Jets fan, a
it's not meant to be an insult. But I do
think that there is a separation. But sometimes there's not
a separation. Sometimes you know more about your team than
you know about any other team in the National Football League,
So maybe the insight is is more spot on. But Ian,
(02:14):
as a fan, how did you take the moves that
went down on Sunday with Williams and Sauce Gardener.
Speaker 6 (02:21):
Well, it happened right in the morning, right So the
first the first real inkling I got him any of
it was our coworker Brandon Deutsch text to me and
he just said, I'm sorry, bro, And that was me
hearing about it, so that I went to Twitter, obviously,
and I thought he was talking about someone like Jermaine Johnson,
who we had been having a discussion about the day before.
He kind of wanted them on his niners. But I
(02:42):
loved and saw sauce Gardener, and obviously the first the
first thing that comes to mind is like what because
that wasn't even rumored and it was just out of nowhere,
out of the blue. But I was upset at first,
not you know, beside myself, because they've been bad with
Sauce Gardener and Quinn Williams, and they'll be bad without
them for the rest of the year, I'm sure. But uh,
once I saw the return, I I'm a lot more
(03:04):
excited because it just felt like I don't want to,
you know, get bashed Sauce Gardner or whatever. I still
love the player, but to me, he's not worth two
first round picks plus a lottery ticket wide receiver in
Adie Mitchell, and we'll see obviously, Well, like I'm sure
in his first game with the Cult, he's going to
get two interceptions because that's the one, the one. Yeah,
(03:24):
the one thing he hasn't been able to do with
the Jets is get turnovers. So for me, I'm looking
at it as there's a cornerback on our team. Yeah,
he's one of the best players on the roster, but
he's someone who's just absolutely incredible in coverage, but he
doesn't turn the ball over. And if someone is willing,
you're sitting at one and seven right now, someone's willing
to give you two first rounders to build for the future.
For it, I think you can't even can't even consider
(03:46):
if you it'd be malpracticed.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
I mean, they did a good job in terms of
how they structured the contract, something you and I had
gone over a little bitty and you know, so there's
not a whole lot of dead cap. Were you surprised
or disappointed that they didn't just go all in with
Johnson and Hall also getting dumped.
Speaker 6 (04:02):
See, I I've expected them to trade Jermaine Johnson, but
now that they haven't, I'm very glad that they didn't.
I was against it just because of the type of
person he is. Not only player, he's coming off a
torn achilles obviously, so there's some limitations there on the field,
but he still looked looked good enough on the field.
And then just as a person in the locker room,
(04:23):
he's kind of just.
Speaker 7 (04:23):
That that that asshole that their their locker room has
not had in a while, and he's someone that they
need to keep around, I think because he's a leader
who's gonna hold people accountable and pass the baton for
Aaron Glenn's message that he's trying to, you know, convey
to the.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Locker room language.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
No I'm kidding, Yeah right, I'll say a couple of things.
So and refresh my memory. Guys, remember when we were
having the baseball closer discussion. Was it about Sauce Gardner?
Was it about a cornerback? Were we talking about that?
Because I felt the same way with you, like and
talking about like when a bad team as a good closer,
like what value is it to them? You know, they
(05:00):
win sixty games and you know what's the point. So
a closer in baseball going to a much better team,
that's going to be playing a lot more high pressure
and high leveraged games, has way more value. So even
if you have an all star closer, there's not much
point in having him on a sixty win team. I
just feel the same thing about a cornerback on a
(05:21):
bad team. There's right, there was just really for as
good as he was, there wasn't tons of value. He
can be more valuable in so many other spots. And
we'll see if he is in Indianapolis. I will say
this about Breess Hall. These things kind of go in dominoes.
And obviously Jerry Jones leaked out that he had been
working on a couple of deals, so this stuff had
(05:42):
been in the works. I think there were teams that
were interested in Breshall. I think if Joe Alt wasn't hurt,
maybe there would have been a deal done with the Chargers,
you know, you know who knows. But those two deals
getting done I think took some of the leverage away
from the Jets to move Brissee Hall. Now that doesn't
hurt the Jets because they've got a great package for
both Williams and Gardner. But now, if you're looking at
(06:04):
a fire sale for a running back, you're probably not
offering what the Jets wanted that in that scenario, So
as the Dominoes foul and Brice Hall is tweeting that
all these people are are leaving and he wants out,
I have a feeling that the Jets lost their leverage
in dealing Brice Hall for a legitimate value.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Yeah, I just wonder.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
You know, there was a report that the Chiefs had
offered a fourth and wouldn't come off of that.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
I took a quick look because.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
Another team, and we can argue about how good or
bad they really are. Right, you mentioned the Chargers Dan
the ault injury. They make a trade with New Orleans
to bring in a guy for a six round pick.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
We'll see if that yields anything.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Maybe Hans Trevor Penning their offensive lineman.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
Yeah yeah, so so maybe maybe Hampton comes back and
you're feeling good that all right, you'll get back to
form there, or with the offensive line being as decimated
it is, you're not going to mortgage the future. Cool
Pittsburgh has three number three, three third round picks and
two fourth round picks, and Jalen Warren found the end
zone twice, but that run game has not been good.
(07:09):
So it's it seemed to me. And again it becomes
a question of trading in conference and all of those things,
how much you do or don't want to go. But
they seem to have a lot of assets that they
could have yielded to go and bring in a guy
that is on the final year of his deal. Fairly
clear he doesn't want to be there. I don't know
that they're going to pay him commensurately to what his
(07:32):
market value would be. Right if we do get to
that offer stage, you're sure as how, I'm not franchising him.
So you know, if you're potentially going to lose him anyway,
you know, how do you come to some terms. Again,
you've you've already got Isaiah Davis waiting in the wings,
and it's shown that he can run them all.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
So again push all in.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Yeah, you know, Braylen Allen's hurt, so, I mean, but
he was a back that at least last year we
thought could have some as well for the Jets. We'll
see how he would come back from his injury. The
other thing with the Jets that I find interesting is
the Garrett Wilson situation that happened in the off season.
Of Garrett Wilson was not happy in New York, yet
(08:17):
find a way to come to an agreement on a
multi year extension. So now you're like, Wilson stays, gets deal,
Gardner Williams dealt, Brice Hall question mark. So if he's
not dealt, do you talk about the market value?
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Mike? Do you do that? Or are the signs showing
we're fine.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
We weren't gonna give him away for peanuts, but we'll
just move on because they at least they said to
Garrett Wilson, we want you back, we'll give you this
sort of deal. I'm curious because it could have gone
both ways with Brice Hall, and to now just let
him walk without getting a fourth rong, or even if
Pittsburgh were to make that offer with those picks, I
(09:04):
think would be kind of strange.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (09:06):
I feel like you have to pay him at this point,
either that or he does walk in the offseason and
you got him for nothing. But either whether it is
a franchise tag and Mike you said you can't see
them doing that, I probably tend to agree. But it's
just he's under team control for at least the next year,
so it just felt like, if you weren't going to
get the value that you set him at, I can
(09:28):
understand at least holding on to someone who has value
on the field for you. But yeah, I'm kind of
with you, guys. I think that they probably should have
dealt him, especially if he doesn't even want to be there.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
Yeah, because all the guys that didn't want to be there.
We found out on Wednesday that Quinn Williams had been
wanting out for a while.
Speaker 6 (09:45):
Which respect to him for doing that behind closed doors.
He could have made a stink about it publishly, but
apparently he's requested trades on three different occasions and no
one heard a peep about it.
Speaker 8 (09:55):
Help the team get more back for him.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
So that's the only thing that doesn't leak, right.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
Yeah, right, aggressive, good work, All right, there's a good
look at the Jets. There were other moves made. Plus,
it's the midway point of the NFL regular season as
we now hit the stride to the second half. We'll
dive into a couple of mid season awards and notifications
if you will. Plus how Rashid Shaheed's gonna affect the
(10:21):
Seahawks and other deals that were made.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
He's Mike Carmen, I'm Dan Byer. That's Ian Roddy. It's all.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Next time I want your flex, it might gop at
swollen Dom. You can find me at Dan Byer on Fox.
Find Ian Roddy at Ian Roddy Underscore. I thought that
the Seahawks were gonna do something enormous by making multiple deals, guys,
Rashid Shaheat ends up being the only deal that they do,
And maybe we should have seen this one coming from
a mile away, considering his familiarity with offensive coordinator Clinton Kubiak.
(10:52):
It's just I think it's a little bit surprising to
most considering how good the Seahawks looked and when we
last saw them on Sunday night, Sam Darnold and all
the different targets, but they were lacking a deep threat
and explosive player like they are getting in Rashid Shaheed. So, guys,
as a Seahawks fan and as someone who watches this
(11:12):
team very closely, I love it for a lot.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Of different reasons. Of him leaving New Orleans or going
to Seattle.
Speaker 5 (11:18):
Ye, I gotta say, is a guy that has performed
pretty well this year, despite the inaccuracy and problems that
you've seen and we don't need to just beat down
the poor New Orleans Saints. They've they've got plenty of
it from the Times. Pick a un but you know,
Spencer Rattler out shuck comes in. But you're looking at
a guy forty four catches, sixty six targets five hundred
(11:40):
yards receiving take can take the top off of defense.
I mean, I gotta say, you know, for fantasy purposes,
it probably mutes you know, the the Horton pickups this week,
So maybe folks made the quick adjustment of not picking
him up off waivers. But I like it another another
option for Sam Donald. We've seen Cooper Cup have his
(12:03):
injury issues, so to get a guys, you're not going
to eat into JSN at all. It's just a nice compliment.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
Yeah, So I think it's only going to help, honestly,
because now not that you were stopping JSN previously, but
now you actually have another weapon to deal with on
a whole portion of the field for his greate as
Tory Horton has been, You're not you're not mindful of
him like you would be Rashid Shaheed and so, and
(12:31):
Donald's been able to be pretty good actually, at least
on on this past Sunday night of finding different targets.
But he has locked into JSN and there's I think
there's two reasons for it. It's number one, if it's
not broke, don't fix it. Actually gonna say three reasons.
Number two, it is a tendency that we've talked a
lot about on this podcast. Donald does have a tendency
(12:52):
to lock onto the number one receiver. But number three,
there hasn't been that other guy like Cooper Cup isn't
in anymore. And whether he's healthy or or not, I
think everything that we need to know about Cooper Cup, who,
by the way, magnificent NFL career. But if the Rams
are telling you that they don't want him, there's only
(13:14):
so much left in the tank. And so I think
to get another viable receiver with a running game that
doesn't seem to.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
Be cured at all.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
And a lot of the conversation is to see I
don't even need a running game for all effective the
passing game is this just adds to it.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
Yeah, I add a little bit of balance, got a
guy that the safety es pay attention to, So maybe
this will unlock a little in terms of the tight ends,
whether it's a royal or somebody else, to find some
work in the middle of the seams, maybe ease up
the run game a little bit. I just think he
adds a nice complexion. You mentioned the familiarity with Kobiac,
(13:51):
so yeah, I mean it's it does peak the interest
here as we get ready for the second half of
the season with a date against the lucky Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Yeah, Jacoby resaid, going to Tomary, we can get into
that unless you want to talk about Jacoby Myers and
the Jaguars. But I don't think they feel that there's
a lot of a lot of wow to do something.
Speaker 5 (14:12):
The only reason, the only thing you say is do
I trust Trevor Lawrence to get him the ball?
Speaker 2 (14:16):
The answer is probably not.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
So Jacoby Myers might be wearing the trade Me sign
again in about two weeks.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
That was the greatest thing about Jacoby Myers. He had
wanted to be traded since week one, so every single
week he wanted out, and finally in the end he
gets his wish and he gets to go to Jacksonville.
Speaker 5 (14:31):
Sorry for Parker Washington. Guys that claimed to me either
last week or this week, you lose out there. Only
what he's got three or more receptions every game, three
games over sixty yards. But again, where you trust in
Trevor Lawrence to find the number two? Hell, he barely
finds Brian Thomas Junior half the time. Right, I'm out
all together. Good luck though, Jacoby Myers. You got what
(14:54):
you wanted. You got to go to Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
Yeah, enjoy that.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
The Cardinals fans can now enjoy Jacoby Brissett some more.
I did like the well the announcement was strange in
a way, but ultimately in the end it was pretty
clear Jonathan Gannon saying we were gonna stick with Jacoby Brissett.
There seems to be more conversation about Murray's injury and
more time to heal. And I don't know if it's
(15:20):
insiders trying to sue the agents that are involved in
all of this, But Gannon did ultimately say that they
were going to end up sticking with Jacoby Brissett as
their starting quarterback, whether Kyler Murray was one hundred percent
healthy or not. But and I'll say it as a
Seahawks fan, and I said it earlier in the week,
I would rather have Kyler Murray start the Week ten
(15:43):
game for Arizona against the Seahawks than Jacoby Brissett. So
I think that tells you all you need to know
for how good Brissett has looked, and we talked about
it in the previous pod, but now he's got the
keys to the car mike for what seems like the
rest of the regular season.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
They can get a little bit of balance. Saw De
Mercado run pretty well in that Monday night game. Again
grain assault because it's Dallas, but with Brissett, he's getting
the ball out on time. Marvin Harrison Junior is really happy.
I don't like his old man. I don't think i'd
ever really seen him smile. I saw him smile, so hey,
they told me I was part of the game plan.
(16:17):
And when you're catching three three passes in a quarter
and it's setting new career career marks, it shows you
where you're at. So curious to see what that offense
can become with Prissette. Is he a long term answer? No,
but again, it's a veteran quarterback that that has, you know,
the pelts on the wall and a long career and
(16:38):
he's a guy that will play within whatever system you're
bringing not gonna offer a lot in terms of scramble
yards or any of that other stuff. But you get
a good professional quarterback, right and a guy that, yeah,
to your point, he may not do the spectacular and
highlight real stuff like Kyler Murray does, but you're gonna
(16:59):
get a more cons sixty minutes, do.
Speaker 8 (17:01):
You guys think the Kyler Murray era is officially over?
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Now? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (17:05):
I think it comes down to he's got a bunch
of guaranteed money on tap for twenty six, which may
make them harder to trade, but I have no doubt
that they're certainly going to explore how much they need
to eat and what needs to happen to make them
go away.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
What do you think, Dan?
Speaker 4 (17:21):
I am curious on the market because so much was man,
I'm not saying the Jets, okay, and you wouldn't give
up the value because of the contract, and so much
was said about the Jets. Now the Jets have all
these picks, and not only do they have picks to
make these selections, they have picks to do something else where.
They could go and get a quarterback if they wanted.
(17:42):
And I'm not saying that Kyler Murray's the guy. But
I'm like, how many teams in the NFL right now
would take Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback? And I
just I don't think that there's a lot honestly, Like
if you're the Dolphins, like, would you even take Kyler Murray?
And like you you're so sour onto any But is
that going to change anything. He's not the running threat
(18:05):
where he can change a game anymore. There seems to
be a problem with rhythm and yeah, I just I
don't think that there's a lot of value for Kyler Murray.
I think it's probably gonna be in one of those
spots where a team doesn't address the quarterback and he'll
be brought in and maybe just get the job by default.
But I just don't see a lot of teams wanting
(18:26):
him as their signal call.
Speaker 6 (18:28):
That was always kind of the thing with Murray was
what makes up for his lack of height was the
fact that he is able to use his legs so effectively.
But if he's not even doing that anymore, it's like,
exactly to your point, like who's gonna want him?
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Yeah, it takes away that's superpower.
Speaker 5 (18:41):
Yeah, right, I mean we've done this with how many
quarterbacks right go back? And the example I use all
the time was Cam Newton and people are like, well,
he should have learned to do this, Like, no, no, no,
he was super human for eight years.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
What's upon a time that was a career and a
half in the National Football League.
Speaker 5 (18:56):
We've now normalized the fact that these guys are supposed
to play for fifteen years. But for Kyler Murray, if
he can't run.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
Well, yeah, and the and the thing about Murray and
I felt that that that same way too. But the
thing I think it's different from Murray is when Josh
Allen runs and when Lamar Jackson runs, there is something
different to it. There's a different feel to it. There's
a uhh, we have to worry about this and that
(19:24):
when Kyler Murray runs. I don't think that there's there's
that aspect anymore.
Speaker 8 (19:30):
I used to feel it, yeah, but not anymore.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
No.
Speaker 8 (19:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
And if you look at his numbers of at least
when he played, like even just looking at this year,
I mean he had looking at his string thirty eight yards,
thirty two yards, thirty seven yards, forty one yards. And
we're in a fantasy podcast, and so that's stuff that
we know, we look about and we care about. How
many times are we putting Kyler Murray in a fantasy
lineup feeling good about it? Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's it's
(19:53):
and so it's it's very weird. There's probably gonna be
some some spots. New Orleans is going to be in
the market for a quarterback again, unless they want to
wait till the next year because of the way that
the quarterback draft is falling on such hard times in
twenty twenty six.
Speaker 8 (20:10):
With all of the battle.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
Yeah, yeah, go to you know, go to New Orleans,
battle it out with Tyler Shook for a season, and
New Orleans could make the decision after that.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
But I just don't.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
I don't see a lot of different landing spots. Miami
could ultimately just because they want to maybe cleanse themselves
from TUA. But I still think, if you're making a
decision today, I'd rather have two is my quarterback than
Kyler Murray if I was a Dolphins fan.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
And I think that's the worst sound bite, Dan, It's
the worst sound bite.
Speaker 5 (20:37):
Kyler Murray or to who do I want in front
of my microphone addressing my fans?
Speaker 2 (20:42):
Well, are we talking.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
About a microphone headset playing video games like Kyler Murray
or yeah, or press conference.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (20:50):
If we could tap into Kyler Murray when he's just
playing a video game like they did with Blake Snell
all those years ago, than maybe that worked. But I
don't want to in front of the mic again.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
Roller coaster ride for Kyler Murray's career. Yeah, at one
point he's going to be a baseball star. Then guess
what I'll go, you know, and I'm gonna win the
Heisman and then I'll go to the NFL. Not only that,
I'll be the first overall pick. I'll have this great
start to my career. I'm going to demand to scrub
the Cardinals from my all social media because I want
a new contract. The day that I'm eligible to get
(21:21):
my extension, some of the Cardinals give it to him
for the Kyler Murray had zero leverage in the whole deal.
He gets paid, has a knee injury comes back, and
I can't get on the same page of anyone else,
like wow, that is well, he is six flags.
Speaker 6 (21:35):
He's still only twenty eight, so he could go play
in the MLB now if he decided that's what he wanted.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
To he's now your starr in Sacramento.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
Yeah, I saw a TikTok.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
I can't remember who it was, and I forget, but
they were talking about that that they they took Kyler
Murray to a to a game in Oakland and there were, well,
you know, there eight thousand people there and here he's
playing in front of seventy thousand, you know, in Norman
where the fan base, and like, yeah, he's not playing baseball.
(22:09):
So and aside from the money that he could get
as the first overall pick, but oh well, well, an
interesting week in the NFL. We'll be back with another
episode at the end of the week, giving you the
week ten look ahead for who toit, Who to start,
Mike's top five rankings. Ian Scott Streaming Defenses. I already
gave you a survivor pick. My for sure survivor pick
(22:31):
is the Broncos for Week ten, but I'll have another
one if you want to play at risky.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
Hopefully the Broncos can come through.
Speaker 4 (22:37):
We'll find out when we meet again if they did
or not, as they have a Thursday night matchup with
the Raiders. So for Mike Carmen and Ian Roddy. Our
week that was trade deadline edition of I Want Your
Flex is now done. You can go about your day.
We'll talk to you next time.
