Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Welcome in everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday Ertors,
Jason Martin. We are broadcasting live from the Ti Iraq,
not Tyrex Studio. Sorry, I don't know where that came from.
We do love Tyraq here at Fox Sports Radio, though,
I am Aratrus. He is Jason Martin the Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Excuse me, sorry, I'm fired up, j mart

(00:26):
We got a lot to talk about today. College football
picture pretty much remains the same as it was coming
into today. Lane Kiffin's future, We got some NFL stuff,
by the way, very excited about this. We have not
had Bernie Fratto on in a while. He will join
us in our final hour. A lot going out in
Vegas this week, between Shador Sanders' debut, between F one

(00:48):
this evening. Anyway, I'm rambling, j mart How are you
here on a Saturday evening?

Speaker 3 (00:53):
I'm doing all right. Yeah. It's definitely been kind of
a chalk day in college football, but you're gonna have
those from time to Luckily, there's stuff that's happening around
that world, maybe not on the field, that's quite as
exciting as what's happening off it. And that's just fine
for us because this content either way.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, no, certainly, we'll get to the news of the day,
the news of the week with Lane Kiffin here in
a few minutes. Let's just go ahead and kind of
rip through some of the results from today. I thought
it was interesting of the top twelve teams that were
in action, the only you know, top twelve is kind
of the fringe of like, who realistically right now could

(01:31):
get in is an at large.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
All of that.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
But I bring it up because everyone was either on
a bye like Ole miss or won their games. The
only one that's still going on Number eleven BYU up
twenty to seven over Cincinnati on Fox about seven minutes
to go.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
But A and M.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Rolled, Alabama rolled, Ohio State, rolled Georgia, rolled, on and on.
I you want to rip through a couple of games
that were noteworthy from today, I'll start with this Jay
Mart Oklahoma seventy.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Missouri six.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
So we were on air obviously, frankly, you know, we
were on air a few weeks ago when Tennessee beat
or Oklahoma beat Tennessee in Knoxville. Incredible result for Oklahoma.
They followed it up with the win last week at Alabama.
That was kind of weird. They had the defensive touchdown.
And I'll be honest, j Mart. You know, Missouri coming

(02:23):
into today three losses, but they lost to Alabama by three.
They also lost to Vandy. On what was essentially the
final play. I said, you know, maybe Missouri could keep
it close. Bo Pabula, their starting quarterback comes back. Well
he came back. But I'll tell you this, man. You know,
this Oklahoma defense is unbelievable, holding Missouri to six total

(02:45):
points in this game. Oklahoma gets the win, and I
think this was probably the most noteworthy game. You know,
now knowing the results, I think this was probably the
most noteworthy because of course Oklahoma with the new pull out,
they were ranked number eight. They are in position to
get in that large not really in position to make
the SEC Championship game. I actually think they've actually been

(03:06):
technically eliminated from it. But for a team that you know,
coming into the year, Brett Vennables sort of on the
hot seat, he's certainly off of it. Oklahoma and proofs
to nine and two. They have a home game against
LSU to get to ten and two, and ten and
two will get them in the playoff Jmartin.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Yeah, Brent Vetables seid after the game, you know, it's
not a beauty contest, and he's right, because this team
is ugly. That's how they win games, that's how they
play games. Their offense is nothing to write home about
at all. But the big thing is it doesn't really matter.
When you have a defense like that, you're gonna be
in a lot of football games, and generally throughout the

(03:42):
course of the season. A couple times maybe they haven't
had enough, but they've been able to sort of overcome
the lethargy of the offense. And I heard whoever's broadcasting
the games, nobody wants to see them in the playoffs,
and I could see that from a defensive standpoint. I
also don't look at them and think they're gonna be
making any kind of a run. So that's something to

(04:02):
keep in mind.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
I would say, yeah, to me, they kind of remind
me of Penn State last year.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
You know, Drew.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
It kind of fits when you think about the fact
that both have pretty hyped quarterbacks that actually don't really
perform when you see them on Saturdays. But you know
that Penn State defense was so elite last year with
abdual Carter kept them in all games, but it did
feel like they hit the ceiling, you know, obviously with
the run.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
That they had.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Yeah, I don't have much to add here, man, Like
I think the story's fun. We talked about a little
bit last week after Oklahoma beat Alabama of just you know,
as we get deeper into this twelve team playoff era,
I think that we're going to start talking about teams
in college football almost like we do in college basketball,
where you know, that's that's a team that could make

(04:47):
the second weekend of the NCAA tournament. That's a team
that could make the final four. That's a team that's
the three seed, that could pull off a couple upsets
and get to the final four, you know. And I
think Oklahoma, as we said last week, is one of
those teams that you know they're gonna get in as
as the six to seven to eight seed. I don't
know that they'll be able to win four games, but
take care of an LSU team, which again struggled on

(05:10):
on Saturday, they will be in that field of twelve. Unfortunately,
j Mart, well not unfortunately, but I was hoping for
a USC upset today, hoping that maybe we get the
the Lincoln Riley returns to Oklahoma in the first round
of the playoff storyline that did not happen. Oregon beat
to USC forty two to twenty seven is the final score.

(05:34):
I don't know if you have any Big Bowl takeaways
from this one, j mart All I'll say is this
is that USC.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
I think they're they're kind of what I just talked about.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
You know, they were a bubble team that needed to
win this game to to you know, listen, if they
had won this game, and certainly if they beat UCLA
next week, they would they would be a deserved ten
and two team in the playoff. But I think, you know, again,
as we get deeper into this twelve team playoff era,
we're just gonna see teams that aren't quite good. And
I think that's what USC is. I mean, my only
real takeaway from this game. I thought Oregon was just

(06:06):
about better everywhere lines of scrimmage. They ran the ball
Oregon for one hundred and seventy nine yards about four
and a half yards per carry. You know, Dante Moore,
without several top wide receivers, still managed to throw for
two hundred and fifty seven yards a two touchdowns. You know,
solid season for Lincoln Riley. Oregon gets the win. They

(06:26):
improved to ten and one. I would think with this
win they have probably done enough, even if they lose
to Washington, to probably be the third team out of
the Big Ten in the College Football Playoff. This, by
the way, assuming Michigan doesn't beat Ohio State next week,
because Michigan is quietly sitting at eight, and I guess
it would be add nine and two going into the

(06:47):
game next week. Any big picture takeaways on Oregon USC.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
I mean, I kind of saw it the way you did.
It was. USC tried to keep it interesting a few
different times, but I never really felt like they were
gonna win. It just felt like Oregon was going to
be too much, and was like every time USC made
a run, Oregon would do something that would just kind
of push them a little bit further in front and
give them a bit more breathing room. It was certainly
an entertaining football game, but I felt like Oregon was

(07:15):
just the better team, and to your point, pretty much
on all sides, and it showed through and sometimes that's
what you're gonna get. I mean, it's two pretty good
football teams there, but one is much further ahead in there,
you know, championship leveling than the other. Is. I still
think it's a pretty good year for Lincoln Riley and USC.
Oregon is supposed to be here. USC really wasn't.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
I was actually gonna ask you that because I and
we talked about this a little bit last week after
USC beat Iowa at home. Is I think the default
with Lincoln Riley is no matter what he does, it's
not enough. And we all understand how he left Oklahoma
and the contract that he signed in the standard and
expectations at USC. But you know, I don't have the
overrunner win total, you know, projection pulled up, but I

(08:00):
don't think most people had them going nine to three
this year. And I do think I understand year one
had a Heisman Trophy winner, and I understand what the
expectations were when he came. But to me and he
said this, you know, to the broadcast staff, Gary Danielson
and Brad Nessler, and I think, you know, if you're
a Lincoln Riley hater, it's going to sound like an excuse.

(08:22):
But you know, I think he kind of said, hey, look,
we're actually kind of built for next year. Jada Mayava.
This was his first year as a starting quarterback. There's
going to be plenty of talented pieces around him. The
defense is mostly actually pretty young. So I actually think
if they close it out against UCLA and they finished,
you know, probably twelve thirteenth, fourteenth in the final rankings

(08:45):
at nine and three, I actually do think that's a
successful year for USC.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Where do you stand just on where this program is
with this head coach.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
I think it's ahead of where I thought it was
going to be at this point, just in terms of
where it had fallen to. I think the problem was
it was starting from a negative in the eyes of many,
because Riley had a little bit of an arrogance to
him when he got there, and things obviously didn't work out.
The defensive coordinator change didn't work out, the Caleb Williams
experiment didn't end with a championship, and then you know,

(09:14):
last year they were basically irrelevant. But then you look
at this year and I do feel like they're just
kind of they're under the radar, which is not going
to make USC fans particularly happy because they want to
be in the mix. But this is the kind of
year that you need in order to have what Lincoln
Riley is claiming will be his next year. Now that
means they actually have to come out next year and

(09:36):
take that next step. But I think that you have to.
Sometimes you don't take all of the steps at once.
It comes in succession. And for USC, I was not
anticipating them being even on the cusp of a playoff
berth this late in the season. So I can't dog
out Lincoln Raley too much because I didn't think anything

(09:56):
of USC coming into the season.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Yeah, really quickly a couple of and again keeping in mind,
Georgia played Charlotte, Texas A and M beats Sanford forty
eight to nothing. Ohio State actually rested Jeremiah Smith and
Carnell Tate. They win forty two to nine. Real quick,
because you know, you and I and Ian we're kind
of texting about this game. Vanderbilt first nine win regular

(10:21):
season since nineteen fifteen, first season in which they go
undefeated for their entire homeslate since nineteen eighty two. And
Diego Pavia five passing touchdowns thirty three of thirty nine passing.
This by the way, after he had three passing touchdowns
and no interceptions two weeks ago against Auburn in their

(10:44):
last game. You know, first of all, I'll say this,
you know, Vanderbilt plays Tennessee next week to obviously try
to finish ten and two overall. Tennessee took care of
business against Florida, by the way, you know, let's give
credit to Tennessee first win against Florida in the Swamp
since two thousand and three. I just bring it up because,

(11:05):
you know, one, Vandy still feels like, because of their positioning,
probably has a little bit of work to do. You know,
would need some help from some other teams to actually
make it into the college football playoff even if they
win next week. But I just bring it up because,
you know, quite literally the best regular season that basically
any of us, you know, shout out to our one

(11:27):
hundred eleven year old listeners that remember the last time
that Vandy won nine games in the regular season, but
for the rest of us, most successful regular season and
something that you brought up a few weeks ago after
the Auburn game. I think, in a year where the
Heisman Trophy still feels relatively wide open, in my opinion,
I think Diego Pavia at least deserves a trip to
New York City.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Yeah, like, I don't think he's gonna win it, but
I honestly do believe he deserves to be at the
table in New York. He needs to get that moment
that'll be a huge honor for a Vanderbilt player. But
you look at I mean, Pavia has two games to
season with six touchdowns, which is just the fact that
he's a Vanderbilt player to have done that. The stat
line that he put up today was only matched by

(12:10):
Peyton Manning, and yeah, so that was exclusive company to
be in as well. He's just I just I don't
know what I understand. Vanderbilt's done a good job in
the portal and all that, and Clark Lee has done
a good job, but I have no idea what they
are without him. And I mean I can look at
Ohio State and still see a lot of talent outside
of saying, I mean they won a championship last year

(12:31):
without him and Mendoza at Indiana, I think those two
guys are maybe they're gonna be one two whichever direction
it's going to go or whatever like that, But I
just wonder, I'm like, you put those guys at Vanderbilt
are they gonna do what Pavia has done? I honestly
don't know, not because I don't think they have the talent,
But there's something about Pavia that just you can't I

(12:52):
don't know, you can't coach at Mendoza sounds the part
too when he talks. So this is not me trying
to pour water on either one. They both deserve it.
All three of those guys and a couple of others
if you want to throw those names in there, absolutely
one hundred percent deserve it. I just think that Diego
Pavia has Certainly, you can't make a better case for
yourself than Diego Pavia has throughout the course of this season.

(13:14):
I mean the stat line and the fact again, that's
a two loss Vanderbilt team going to Knoxville next week
for maybe the most important Tennessee Vanderbilt game to ever
be played, because Vanderbilt's never been relevant in that game before,
and now they're going to go in there as the
higher rated team with a look, I think they have
a twenty three percent chance right now to make the playoff.

(13:36):
You win that Tennessee game next week. I don't know
what that percentage goes to, but they don't control their
own destiny. But I do feel like in most respects,
they've done all that they possibly can. They've lost a
couple games, but they haven't lost the teams that you
shouldn't lose to either. They've played really really well and
gotten beaten by a couple of really good teams.

Speaker 4 (13:58):
Yeah, you know.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
And and all I'll say is, it's funny you mentioned
what is this program without Pavia? That's my exact thought
as well. You know Clark Lee, who you know, I
think he's gonna stay. Like I don't know if you've
been following this story, Jamart number one quarterback in America
high school is from Nashville and committed to Georgia, and
people were talking about him flipping the Vandy. So I
don't know if it's gonna happen, but I just bring

(14:20):
it up because you know, I think Clark Lee is staying.
But I only bring that up to very simply say that, like,
I just don't know what this program is without Pavia,
And Clark Lee is this hot candidate everywhere else. Like
I said, I think he's gonna sign an extension. But yeah, diego.
Pavia deserves all the credit for elevating this program, and
I do think it'll be interesting to see what this

(14:41):
program is. Obviously, after he leaves this year, Vandy gets
to win Vandy nine and two. They play Tennessee next Saturday,
three point thirty Eastern time. You know, obviously need to
win that game to stay in the playoff hunt. I
think right now they are probably on the outside looking
in and they need help. Speaking of on the outside

(15:02):
looking at improbably they don't need help, they just need
to win out. But by you who is right now
sitting at number twelve looking to ice the game against Cincinnati.
They're up twenty to fourteen in this game right around
the two minute timeout.

Speaker 4 (15:16):
A BYU win would get them to ten to one.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
It wouldn't quite clinch a spot in the Big twelve
Championship game yet, But BYU sitting at twelve and one
right now, and they probably as of right now, have
to get to the Big twelve Championship game and win
it to get into the playoff. Fox Sports Radio aertors
Jason Martin broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
You know who's not going to the playoff. LSU's not
going to the playoff. Florida is not going to playoff,

(15:42):
but they might be the big winners. Over the next
couple of weeks, we will discuss Lane Kiffin and that's
saga coming up next.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
They're about to win.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
BYU has just scored again to go up twenty six
to fourteen extra point pending. They are facing Cincinnati BYU
ranked number twelve or number eleven. Excuse me, still on
the outside looking in of the playoffs. We'll start talking
the rankings in a few minutes. J Mart, BYU with

(18:06):
an interesting resume, they'll be ten and one. They're only
lost at Texas Tech. They're another one, kind of like Vandy.
I think they would probably need some help to get
in that large bid if they were not to win
the Big Twelve Championship game. And they do not, by
the way, clinch a Big Twelve Championship Game appearance tonight.
That will come down to the final final weekend next Saturday,
they play at they play UCF at home. But by

(18:28):
you about to improve to ten and one. J Mart,
Lane Kiffin, have you been able to keep every six hours?
There's a new Lane Kiffen media narrative, which is kind
of incredible because they did not play this week and
so we don't have to go through the entire week.

(18:51):
Let me just get you caught up on what has
probably happened in the last twenty four hours or so.
I do think it is worth noting what happened yesterday
into today. So yesterday, this was Friday afternoon, was about
probably let's see here, I want to take a it
was about four to thirty Eastern time. Okay, So Lang
Kiffin is obviously the head coach at Old Miss. We

(19:12):
know that he's being courted by Florida. He's being courted
by LSU. He had a meeting with his AD on Friday.
Long story short, I will spare you reading the entire announcement.
But Keith Carter is the Old Miss AD. He released
a statement at four to twenty four eastern three twenty
four local time, basically saying a lot of stuff. Actually,

(19:34):
you know what, let me read the whole segment, the
whole statement only because I think you and I might
have differing thoughts on what the statement actually meets. Okay,
here is from Keith Carter, Ole Miss AD. Coach Kiffin
and I have had many pointed and positive conversations regarding
his future at Old Miss, including meeting today with Chancellor Voice.
While we discuss next steps, we know we cannot lose

(19:56):
sight of what is most important our sixth ranked team
that is poised to finish the regular season in historic fashion.
Despite the outside noise, Coach Kiffin has focused on preparing
our team for the Egg Bowl. That's the rivalry with
Mississippi State, and together we want to ensure that our
players and coaches can fully concentrate on next Friday's game.
This team is on the cusp of an unprecedented season

(20:17):
and it's imperative they feel the support of the Old
Miss community in the week ahead. An announcement on coach
Kiffin's future is expected the Saturday following the game. So
I'll just give you a quick recap. Ole Miss had
a bye this week, they did not play. Lane Kiffen
met with the AD. The AD says any final decision
from Lane Kiffin is gonna come after the rivalry game

(20:39):
next Friday. With Lane Kiffin since with Mississippi State, excuse me,
since then. There were multiple reports over the last twenty
four hours about the contract that LSU specifically is ready
to offer Lane Kiffen. I bring it up because there's
been a lot of noise around Lane kiff and Jay
mart What is your take on everything going on with

(20:59):
Lane Kiffin, including this statement on Friday.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
Well, I mean, it's really interesting because it seems like
you're going to get an answer right after the big
rivalry game between Ole Miss and Mississippi State, and then
I would imagine that a lot of dominoes are going
to start falling, because that's sort of the top line domino.
What is Laying going to do? Is he going to

(21:23):
remain at Old Miss, leaving those other two jobs open,
or is one of those jobs going to be filled
at which point Ole Miss becomes open. But then you're
looking at a different crop of candidates, and one of
those schools, be at Florida or LSU, then has to
move to the next name on their list. It's yeah, maybe, yeah, exactly.

(21:45):
I my initial thought. I found it interesting because we
were kind of going back and forth about this today.
When I saw this announcement, I said, Oh, he's staying.
That was my initial thought, and I felt completely confident
about it, and I'm going to stick with it. I
think he's going to stay. It just seems crazy to
me that they would go through the egg bowl thing

(22:09):
to then just pour water all over the fan base
and say, by the way, he's leaving, he's going to
have to leave immediately to you know, whatever he's got
to do, so it's gonna be an interim coach and
whatever you were hoping about for the college football playoff,
you know, things are about to get real ugly here,
real fast. That seems like that seems unthinkable to me
from an optics standpoint. But at the same time, and

(22:32):
I'll throw it to you to kind of make this case.
When you mentioned that you felt diametrically opposed to me
about it. The last couple of hours, I've been thinking
about it from that perspective, and especially when you go
and you look at the comments and everything that's being said,
it's like, we don't want this to be a distraction.
I don't know that it would be a distraction if

(22:55):
he was staying. So I can read it both ways.
I'm going to stick with my guns. I'm just gonna
stick with my my instinct on this when I saw
that was oh, this is gonna be a big time celebration.
And the whole point of this is not only are
they going to probably win the egg ball running away
the next day, Lane's gonna say, you know what, man,
it's nice to be wanted in a lot of these places,

(23:18):
But this has been my home for the last handful
of years. My family loves it here. We want, we
want to win a championship for the Rebels. We don't want,
we don't need to go do it somewhere else. We're
gonna do it right here and then stick around. And
then you have like one of these iconic moments that
should he go win a championship there in the next
couple of years, is something they'll never forget. It'll be

(23:38):
put on the statue outside the stadium of him down
the road. And maybe that's just the pro wrestling booker
in me that sees a way to make a guy
into a hero that at times has been easy to
make a villain through the years. But that's just that's
my my take, and I'm just gonna stick with my
first gut feeling on it is. When I saw that

(24:00):
from Carter, I immediately thought, Oh, he's staying I don't. I
don't think there's even a question anymore.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
By the way, at some point, maybe if we host
one of these, you know, Christmas Day shows or something.
I got to get your backstory on being a professional
booking wrestling booker, because it sounds like a pretty badass job,
but we could save that for the future. So a
couple of things. You know, I'll give credit where it's due.
So I was filling in for Doug Gottlib yesterday. I
was on there with Dan Byer and we actually had

(24:27):
a guest when this broke and I only read the
last line and Dan kind of did a double thing.
He said, dude, you need to read it because I
think it says something pretty clear.

Speaker 4 (24:36):
So my quick thoughts, and.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
You know, we can bounce back and forth and obviously
get to the segre here in a few minutes.

Speaker 4 (24:42):
Is a couple of things.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
One is that I think that if Lane Kiffin was
one hundred percent coming back, I do think that it
doesn't make sense to me because right now it does
not feel like anyone in that if if Lane Kiffin
is coming back, and if they're gonna have this crazy announcement,

(25:05):
First of all, I would do it Friday, right after
the game, right like you can frame it as, uh,
you know, we'll have a final answer sometime following the game.
But to do it on Saturday feels like, so you're
gonna make people wait all week. Then you're gonna make
it wait till Saturday. So that's part of it. I
think the other part to me is that it doesn't

(25:26):
feel like it's a big secret that everybody in the
building is keeping, Like like if you are waiting until
after the game to announce this, you know, one you're
putting your team at jeopardy for a loss. Now I
think even if you lose, you're probably still in the playoff,
but you know you're putting yourself at risk for a loss.
So I just think that if you know you're staying,
if you're a one hundred percent and I'm not saying

(25:46):
that he won't stay, I just don't think that he
has made a final decision if he does plan on staying.

Speaker 4 (25:53):
Is if you are staying, then.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
It feels like a weird thing to string out all
week long, because all you're doing is putting yourself a
position where maybe just maybe you you know you're you know,
you're putting yourself in a position where your players are distracted,
where your players are answering questions whatever.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
So there's that and just.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
The way the whole thing reads to me, And I'll
read a couple quick specific lines he says, you know,
while we discuss next steps, we know we cannot lose
sight of what's most important, our sixth ranked team that
has poised to finish the regular season in historic fashion.
Despite the outside noise, Coach Kiffin has focused on preparing
our team for the Egg Bowl, and together, we want
to ensure that our players and coaches concentrate fully on

(26:31):
the next game. And then again it wraps with you know.
An announcement on coach Kiffin's future is expected on Saturday
following the game. Long story short, The way that reads
to me is the very cliche thing that your parents
used to tell you. Hey, let's just enjoy this journey
and not worry about the destination. Let's worry about this

(26:52):
week and then we'll worry about the future after that.
And one, I don't think that's a good message to
send to your fan base because now all they want
to do is stress out this and they can't even
enjoy the game. It's not like they're gonna sit there
and like, oh, you know, whatever happens after, who cares,
let's just beat our rival. I think they're just like,
it's actually the opposite, Like I actually can't enjoy this
even if we do beat the rival, because I don't

(27:12):
know what's coming next. So there's a lot of rambling,
that's a lot of talking. But to me, that statement,
the way that I read it, sounds like, let's enjoy
the journey and not worry about the destination. And to me,
I think it is a huge pr GAF if that
is what the intention was. I think it's a huge
pr GAF from the folks at at Old Miss because

(27:36):
and oh, by the way, one more thing, real quick
is if he has agreed to something and if you
are waiting, I think there's a way to frame it
where it doesn't come off as the way that it did.
But anyway we could keep going, I want to get
it back to you, I have to talk long enough.

Speaker 3 (27:52):
Yeah. So one line that you didn't mention that I
just highlighted actually on my screen, and it definitely kind
of just struck me differently just now is this team
is on the cusp of an unprecedented season and it's
imperative they feel the support of the Old Miss family
in the week ahead. That it's like what's not said

(28:17):
there is because they're probably gonna be real upset right
after that, similar to kind of what you're saying, but like,
why would they not feel the support of the old
miss family. That's why we're gonna wait until after the
game to say this. The only other thing with me, though,
is just like I know, it's a rivalry game and all,

(28:38):
but they should have no problem beating Mississippi State. Even
though Mississippi State has done some okay stuff this year.
They usually don't finish off opponents, and they're they're making
a lot out of not being distracted going into this
game that I think they're probably gonna win by twenty
or thirty points or something like that. I don't know.

(28:58):
I'm not as sold anymore as I was. Like I
said when we were talking about this afternoon, I went
back and thought about it from both perspectives. I can
make both arguments that it's clear he's gonna leave and
that it's clear he's gonna stay. I'm just gonna remain
with my gut on it. I may be a fool
in a week. Look, if they're offering I mean LSU
offering ninety to ninety eight million dollar packages with a

(29:19):
twenty five million dollar um basically player cash annually to
go out, and the governor has put his stamp on it,
and all by the.

Speaker 4 (29:28):
Way, like real quick side thing. It's a isn't it funny?
Oh the governor?

Speaker 2 (29:33):
Yeah, you know, we're not gonna do these crazy contracts anymore.
And then it's like we're gonna offer this, Oh, you
want a good football coach? Oh, by the way, like
I don't. I'm not being hyperbolic, like I don't. I
don't know where the governor is in terms of his
term and reelection. You want to the quickest way not
to get reelected, Uh, give out some crappy contract and

(29:54):
get a crappy coach.

Speaker 4 (29:55):
That's the quickest way.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
So it's funny how it went from yeah, we're not
doing these lousy contracts anymore to uh, yeah you will.

Speaker 4 (30:02):
What do you need?

Speaker 2 (30:03):
Like any amount of money? Any amount of nil? You
need a shrimping boat off the off the coast there? Like,
what do you need? I thought that part was funny.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
Yeah, So I'm I'm not as sure on my position
as I was, but I'm just gonna stick with what
I thought the first time. And I think you're on
the opposite side. So one of us will be right,
one of us will be wrong. I will say this.
You can understand why he would leave. I hope he stays.
I agree, just because I think it would be one
good for college football and two for Lane Kiffin's reputation.

(30:34):
This kind of new version of Lane, the one that's
a little bit softer, that's a lot easier to root
for in many respects, and all this like this is
the opposite of what Lane would have done in the past.
And I'm always a fan of carving out your own
legacy as opposed to following a legacy that's already established.
Like he could go down in the history books with

(30:56):
what he could do and what he already has been
doing at ole Miss. If he goes to LSU, he's
just going to be another coach that wins a national
championship there at Best, right, And the same thing would
be true at Florida, And of course he has to
win multiples there to do anything, like unless he turns
into Nick Saban, where he can write his ticket because
of what he's done at Alabama, where it's not just

(31:18):
he's another coach that won at Alabama. It's like, no,
he's Nick Saban, and it's completely different. Like he wins
at ole Miss, he's somebody that won at ole Miss,
and that's such a different that's just a different thing.
That's why I always felt the same way about like
Dabos winning back in the day. He should stay at Clemson.
They should have to carry him out of there because
of building a program and all this, Mark Fewitt, Gonzagaz,

(31:41):
some of these kind of guys. This is a place
that maybe isn't quite as sexy as Baton Rouge or
Gainesville in some respects, but man Oxford's a great college town.
They love the rebels, They've supported him like crazy, They've
put money behind it, and I just think it would
be a great story for him to basically say, yeah,
the big dogs have come after me, but I'm gonna

(32:02):
stay here. I want to continue building what we've already built,
because it's so the opposite of what you would have
thought Lane Kiffin would have done five years ago.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
Yeah, my last last thought. Lane Kiffin is absolutely entitled
to do whatever he wants. But if he does decide
to leave, given how he left Tennessee, given how he
was fired before a national championship game at Alabama for
too many distractions, do what you want, do what you
think is best. Don't ever try to sell us that

(32:30):
you're changed or you're different if you leave under these
circumstances in the middle of the best regular season in
the history of the program that you're currently at Fox
Sports Radio air towards Jason Martin, let's get it over
to the news desk to saga, we're.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
A little bit late. But you know, this Lake Kiffin
story has got a lot of tentacles to it, so.

Speaker 8 (32:48):
As far as building a program, and I would add
Bill Snyder Kansas State to that list. Yes, we did
have number eleven BYU winning at Cincinnati. Tonight's BYU could
have taken a knee at the and the opponent was
out of timeouts. They were running plays and eventually got
a rushing touchdown of over thirty yards as I recall,
and then went for two after that and failed. So

(33:09):
twenty six fourteen BYU is the final, clearly, assuming that
the committee is not watching. At eleven thirty pm, Eastern
Bearcats on field goal attempts were zero for three. Now,
in BYU's defense, only the top ten ranked teams are
guaranteed a playoff spot at this point, and BYU's number eleven,
Number twelve Utah came back to beat Kansas State fifty

(33:31):
one forty seven, pitt one at number sixteen. Georgia Tech
tonight forty two to twenty eight. Wisconsin at home beat
Illinois twenty seven to ten. The Ilini were ranked twenty
first this week. They are four and four in conference
TCU had four turnovers, still got the victory. At number
twenty three Houston seventeen fourteen. Today Number seven Oregon beat
usc forty two to twenty seven. Eighth ranked Oklahoma over

(33:55):
Missouri seventeen to six. We had wins for North Texas,
James Ma Addison, and Tulane. One of those could be
in the playoff. Number twenty five Arizona State now leading
forty two seventeen.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
At Colorado with about a minute to go.

Speaker 8 (34:09):
Colorado's going to fold a one in seven in the
Big Twelve Conference, and we have three late games. Mid
second quarter at the Rose Bowl, Washington leads UCLA ten
to nothing in the second quarter. Fresno State now ahead
ten to seven over Utah State, and San Diego State's
playing on FS one. The Aztecs eight and two this year.
They led eleven nothing after the first quarter, now eleven

(34:31):
three against San Jose State with about four minutes to
go in the second. Smu is six and one in
the ACC after the win over Louisville thirty eight to six.
Duke won at North Carolina thirty two to twenty five.
Bill Belichicks Tar Heels two and five in league play
and in an ACC game tonight at Stanford Cardinal beat

(34:52):
Rival Cal thirty one to ten. By the way Florida
State loss last night at NC State twenty one eleven
wolfpeck final to the Big Twelve, Iowa State ripped Kansas.
Arizona dominated the second half, beating Baylor, and UCF needed
ten points in the fourth quarter to edge Oklahoma State
seventeen fourteen. Oklahoma State one in ten winless in the

(35:14):
Big Twelve Conference, Yukon nine and three after a forty
eight forty five decision at Florida Atlantic. In the NBA today,
the Clippers won at Charlotte one thirty one to one sixteen.
James Harden fifty five points in thirty five minutes on
the court from three point range. He was ten for
sixteen wins for Memphis. In Orlando, Atlanta handed New Orleans

(35:38):
a ninth straight loss. Chicago edge Washington. The Wizards have
lost fourteen in a row. Detroit won its twelfth straight game,
this time at Milwaukee, won twenty nine one sixteen as
the Piston shot sixty three percent from the floor in
the late game. It's at Denver, late third quarter Nuggets
ahead of the Sacramento Kings eighty three to seventy nine.

(35:59):
The Bengals did not activate quarterback Joe Burrow, so Joe
Flacco will start Sunday against the Patriots. He won eight straight.

Speaker 4 (36:05):
Back to you, Thank you very much, Steve Sager.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
This is Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday into Sunday
Air Tours. Jason Martin broadcasting live from the Fox Sports
Radio Studios.

Speaker 4 (36:14):
We will come back.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
We'll put a bow on a busy Saturday in college football,
and of course start looking head to a busy week
twelve in the NFL. Er tors Jason Martin, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
Welcome back, everybody. Fox Sports Radio er Torris, Jason Martin.
We are broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios.

Speaker 4 (36:41):
Last game of.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
Major significance, at least in the college football playoff conversation
has gone final number eleven BYU beat Cincinnati twenty six
to fourteen, as the saga just mentioned BYU kind of
on that CUSP probably still need to win the Big
Twelve Championship.

Speaker 4 (37:00):
You know, it depends on what happens next week.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
There's obviously if teams ahead of them lose, that could
be a different conversation. But even at ten to one,
probably have to have to win the Big Twelve to
get into the College Football Playoff. If they beat UCF
next week, they are in the Big twelve Championship game.
Really quick, Jmart just wanted to rip through the rankings,
but more specifically, I guess I don't really want to

(37:23):
rip through the rankings. Let's just talk about the big
conversation in the rankings.

Speaker 4 (37:27):
I'm curious for your perspective.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
First of all, Alabama fans were not happy falling to
number ten behind Notre Dame after the loss this past week.
Alabama at number ten good news for Alabama. They play
the Iron Bowl this weekend. If they win the Iron Bowl,
they'll go to the SEC Championship Game. I can't see
a world where they're not in the playoff if they

(37:50):
win the Iron Bowl. Did want to ask you just
I'm just curious about your perspective on the Notre Dame
Miami conundrum. And I'll be quick on this, but Miami
and Notre Dame are both nine and two. Miami's currently
ranked thirteenth, Notre Dame ninth, and we all know they
played in Week one and Miami has the head to

(38:13):
head win over Notre Dame. I bring it up because
as Miami continues to win, and certainly as Notre Dame
continues to win, this seems to be the topic that
is going to take over these conversations over these next
couple weeks. Miami closes at pitt next week, Notre Dame
closes at Stanford. If they both win, they'll both finish

(38:33):
ten and two. It's worth noting right now Miami actually
needs a lot of help to get into the get
into the ACC Championship game. And so I just bring
it up because I'm curious for your perspective. Do you believe,
like you know, Notre Dame has the head to head
win or excuse me, Miami has the head to head win.
They have to be in Do you have a strong
opinion yet? Do you need to see what happens next week?

(38:54):
What is your take on what is quickly becoming a
very interesting talking point in the playoff rankings.

Speaker 3 (39:00):
I don't like the problem. I mean, obviously, both teams
have a couple of blemishes that they can go back
and say, well, that one cost us, But the fact
that Miami beat them head to head and they have
the same record, are we just looking at who you
lost to and also not including But here's the problem.
I think we know this now because they're so little overlap.

(39:24):
Because there's so many teams even within conferences, it's hard
to stack them and say this team is better than
this team because a lot of them play different opponents
and you can dodge some of the toughest teams in
your conference one year, get lucky with that, and that
ends up favoring you when it gets to the end.
But in this case, like Notre Dame has been playing
really really solid football this last three four weeks. But

(39:46):
at the same time, it's never going to escape me
that Miami beat them yep to open the season. Now,
it was a three point game, and their only other
loss was to A and M, which has become a
better loss as the season has gone on, and they
lost that game by one. They lost that game forty
one to forty, and then they pretty much demolished almost
everybody since next week, Miami's gonna get a better opportunity

(40:08):
because they have a better opponent in Pitt. But Notre
Dame already beat Pitt this year, So you know, I
don't I don't know that I'm hand ringing the way
that some are about this, but I do think the
fact that Miami has beaten them head to head, it's
gonna it's gonna it's gonna feel real bad if they
end up with the same record. Notre Dame's in and

(40:29):
Miami's out because they can't find a way to the
AEC Championship game.

Speaker 4 (40:32):
Yeah, you know, I'm with you. I think I'd like
to see the last data.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
Point before I make any definitive takes going into next week.

Speaker 4 (40:39):
But it'll be interesting.

Speaker 3 (40:41):
I think.

Speaker 2 (40:41):
The other thing that kind of stinks Miami not really
in position to make the ACC Championship game. So it's
like the ACC might actually get two bids out of
all this. Fox Sports Radio Era Torres Jason Martin broadcasting
live for the Fox Sports Radio Dars come Back NFL

Get back to college football in a little bit. All
of the major games of note are final. We do

(42:05):
have an interesting Big ten game at the Rose Bowl
Washington up twenty to nothing on usc Washington looking to
improve to our UCLA looking to improve to eight and three.
Of course, Washington plays Oregon next week. I think Oregon's
in even if they lose that game, but probably.

Speaker 4 (42:25):
Don't want to. Washington up twenty to nothing.

Speaker 2 (42:29):
All right, jamar, let's switch gears and let's talk a
little bit of NFL Week twelve got underway on Thursday night.

Speaker 4 (42:39):
It was not pretty for the Buffalo Bills. They go
to Houston.

Speaker 2 (42:43):
They end up losing the game twenty three to nineteen
in a game in which the Houston Texans sacked Josh
Allen eight times. Buffalo Bills fall to seven and four overall,
and the losses weren't I'm starting to notice a pattern here.
You lose to the Texans with Davis Mills, you lose

(43:04):
to the Atlanta Falcons, obviously, the Patriots loss is looking
better and better. You also lost to the Miami freaking Dolphins.
I bring it up to say, man, I listen, I'll
just I got a lot of takes on the Buffalo Bills.
I'm gonna open up the floor to you. Is it
time to panic? Is it time for change? Is this
just part of the life cycle of a season. What

(43:26):
did you make a Thursday night at NRG Stadium.

Speaker 3 (43:30):
Everything's fine, man, Okay, everything, Just bring give Sean McDermott
a lifetime contract. Everything. Everything's good. The only thing that
they have to do is win the Super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (43:41):
Ah, that's it.

Speaker 3 (43:42):
That's it. I said at the beginning of the year,
I didn't care what this team did in the regular season.
They could go undefeated, I wouldn't care. As long as
they make the playoffs and win the Super Bowl. I
don't care. I'm not going to overreact to having a
mediocre regular season as long as they go do what
they're supposed to do in January. If they fail in January,

(44:03):
that combined with a mediocre season, probably will be the
end of Sean McDermott. If they don't, you know, if
they go to the playoffs and win the Super Bowl,
then no one's having this conversation because they all of
a sudden become this year's version of Ryan Days Ohio
State from twenty twenty four. That pretty much he was done,

(44:24):
it felt like in many respects, at least among the
fan base right him until he dominated the College Football
Playoff and his team won the National Championship, and they
still haven't found a way to lose since that streak began,
up to and including the eleven to zero record that
they possess right now. So I look at it from
that standpoint and I just say, as long as they
win the Super Bowl, there's nothing wrong here. Nothing. I'm

(44:45):
not going to overreact just because I said again, like
if I wasn't going to really call them the greatest
team on earth because they were undefeated right now, I'm
certainly not going to bury them. Is it impressive? No,
I just don't care because this team's regular season meaningless.
As long as they make the playoffs, They're probably not
gonna win their division, which makes their path tougher. But

(45:06):
I'm gonna give them way. I'll pick up for J.
Mart right there.

Speaker 4 (45:10):
I think we lost them for half a second. So
I think what J.

Speaker 2 (45:15):
Martin said is one hundred percent accurate. I have not
been a Sean McDermott guy. I have said for two
to three seasons that I think that he is not
the answer, and I don't disagree with kind of what
you said, J. Mart I do think it's concerning, And
let me say this, I think the number one sign

(45:36):
because because j Martin, the whole argument for keeping Sean
McDermott is like the locker room loves him.

Speaker 4 (45:42):
He hasn't lost the locker room.

Speaker 2 (45:43):
One of these years they're gonna break through it. You're
gonna be case and it's all gonna be well and good.

Speaker 3 (45:48):
Well.

Speaker 2 (45:49):
The number one sign of actually losing a locker room,
in my opinion, is, you know, beyond just actual wins
and losses, it's who are you beating? Who are you
not beating and how are you beating them? What is
the manner in which you're beating them?

Speaker 3 (46:04):
Right?

Speaker 4 (46:04):
And so to me, the Bills are winning the big games.
They beat the.

Speaker 2 (46:09):
Bucks last week, Josh Allen was incredible, they beat the Chiefs,
so a couple weeks before that, you know, they started
out pretty well, including that big win over the Ravens
early in the year. But when it's ebbs and flows,
peaks and valleys, and you're not getting up for the
big games and the little things are starting to become
big things, that to me is when you lose a

(46:30):
locker room. And so, I you know, it can be
as blunt as if they don't win the super Bowl,
if they don't make the Super Bowl, then it's time
to kind of reshuffle the deck and start over. But
I think that there are signs now that like, like,
you lose to the Dolphins, Okay, you lose to the Falcons, Okay,
you lose to the Texans, Okay, individually, but now it's

(46:51):
you're basically losing every time that you can show up,
like every time that you could kind of see on
the schedule, oh maybe they'll show up flat.

Speaker 4 (47:00):
They do.

Speaker 2 (47:01):
And so this is now three times in about the
last six seven weeks that they've shown up completely flat,
completely unready to play. And so, yeah, it could be
as simple as if they don't make the super Bowl,
it's over. But I also think it's it's the things
leading up to it, which is, you know, just these
games that they're supposed to be taking care of business,
they're just not doing it.

Speaker 3 (47:22):
Yeah, So I don't know exactly where I cut up.
I just tend to feel like they have a chance
for the Ohio State redemption arc where Ryan's entire fan
base is ready to kick him to the curb, and
then they won the national title and now they're eleven
and a zero this year going on. If Shuey Dermott

(47:42):
is able to take that team to the super Bowl,
then a lot of this is going to be forgotten about.
It's going to be moot. And if they don't, and
then you add to that a mediocre season, it's gonna
be much easier to move on from him. And I
think that that's going to be the decision that's made,
and that might be better for that team going forward.

(48:02):
But here's the other thing, and maybe this is around
the time I cut out, they get no they get
no sympathy from me for having to go on the
road for every playoff game. I still expect them to win.
That's that's it, because they've put themselves in a spot
by just what you said, playing down to the competition
and certainly not being able to handle strong defenses. Their
offensive line against Houston's defense was an atrocity on Thursday night,

(48:25):
Absolutely atrocity. And you know, Josh Allen can only do
so much for your football team, and you look at
him and he seems out manned and outgunned in a
lot of these games. And so if they have to
go on the road because of what they've done during
the regular season, I expect him to win every game.
Or it's going to be the same critique coming out

(48:46):
of this. They've put themselves in this situation, and they've
watched Mike Rabel come into New England with Drake May
and start to run away with that division. Now there's
still games to play, and we'll see. Maybe the Patriots
hit a wall. I don't know. I don't really sense that,
but Buffalo has put themselves in a spot where from
week to week you cannot trust them. As a matter
of fact, that team that's been their boogieman in the

(49:08):
playoffs is identical. Well, the Chiefs are also another team
that from week to week you cannot trust, which is
why I don't make blanket statements about the Kansas City
Chiefs at all anymore, because I don't know which team
is going to show up.

Speaker 2 (49:22):
Yeah, no, and I think that's you know, listen, I
know that's seven and four and being in position to
get a wild card is not like a failure of
a season, and there's still a lot of football to
be played, most notably in the postseason. I do think
if the Chiefs were vintage Chiefs or what they have been,
I think this would actually look and be talked about

(49:42):
a lot different because I do think there is a
perception of exactly what you just said. Hey, it's can
you get over the hump? What happens when you make
the playoffs?

Speaker 3 (49:49):
All that.

Speaker 2 (49:51):
But I also think like if the Chiefs were ten
and two and the Bill or not ten and two,
I guess they'd be you know, eight and two, nine
and two, whatever, they'd be. The Bills were seven and
four and reeling, I think this would look a lot worse.
But because the Chiefs aren't very good, because a lot
of the teams that we expected to be good are struggling, Like,
I think this is being understated. The difference between the

(50:14):
Chiefs and the Bills is that the Chiefs have multiple
rings on their finger. The difference between the Eagles being
seemingly a mess behind the scenes is that they have
a ring on their finger.

Speaker 4 (50:23):
And so I just think it's fascinating.

Speaker 2 (50:25):
And I do think to your point, it's just it's
Super Bowl or bust. It's when the AFC or bust,
and if not, I think changes have to be made, man,
you know, I.

Speaker 3 (50:36):
Mean it's a definition of insanity at some point. I mean, well, yeah,
eventually you have to do something else. Even if MC
Dermott's not a bad coach. It's like, all right, coach man,
this we have found our steiling for this. I hope
you go win a Super Bowl somewhere else, and we
got to move on. We've got to try something different here.
And it can't just be a new OC. It can't

(50:58):
be like that. We've done that already. And Josh has
been good with all of them. But dude, and especially this,
I mean mcderott's defensive coordinator, and the Bills defense hasn't
been good, right, Caul. That's the other.

Speaker 2 (51:09):
Part, no, And I think the other thing too with
that is, you know, Josh Allen is going to be
thirty at the start of next football season. And you know,
I think Tom Brady and and all these guys, Drew Brees,
Aaron Rodgers, like, I think they've given us this misperception
of like how long guys can play at an elite level.
And I know Aaron Rodgers I wouldn't say is that an

(51:29):
elite level? But but whatever, Josh Allen's different and he
takes so many big hits and it's like, I just
I don't know how many like like like let me
ask you this, how many like great vintage peak Josh
Allen years do we think he has left? Because again,
I understand some guys can play into their late thirties

(51:50):
early forties, but I think we're talking what two, three, like.
I don't think it's like six more years.

Speaker 3 (51:56):
I was gonna say five, you think, but maybe maybe
yours already seeing a bit of a decline at that
point in time because of the manner in which he
plays like he's not gonna have the longevity of a
guy that doesn't put his body on the line, because
he does put his body on the line. Now, he's
big and strong and all that, and he hasn't dealt
with a ton of injuries, but eventually that's probably gonna

(52:17):
bite him, and that's gonna probably kind of set the
stage for his decline. What's his age right now? Usually
a quarterback peaks at age twenty nine.

Speaker 2 (52:24):
So he's literally twenty nine right now. He'll be thirty
okay next season?

Speaker 3 (52:28):
So okay, all right, Well maybe maybe five, and you
take the under, so maybe it's four. Maybe that's your
argument's pretty good at two to three, so maybe I'll
drop it to four. I still think he's got a
presidential cycle in him, of peak football. But I do
think that there will eventually be there's eventually going to
start being regret of man, how many could we have won?

Speaker 4 (52:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (52:49):
If?

Speaker 3 (52:51):
And you know that's not what you want because unfortunately
the Bills are used to that well.

Speaker 2 (52:56):
And the only other thing I would say is not
peak Josh Allen still in twenty you know, thirty one
might be the best quarterback in the NFL. But it's
just like, you know, we all watch the games. It's
like the amount of hits that he take and you know,
I'll say this Thursday, let me ask you this, just
random question. Thursday was one of the first times that

(53:17):
it was like he looked overwhelmed. There's been so yeah,
so many times where you know, don't matter how good
the defense is, who's on the defense, how many Hall
of Famers, whatever, he just makes it work.

Speaker 4 (53:29):
And Thursday it was.

Speaker 2 (53:30):
Just like he had no time, you know, when he
was scrambling, he wasn't breaking tackles, you know, whatever Demiko
Ryans did behind the scenes. But that was one of
the few times that I can vividly remember being like, oh, like,
he's not Superman today, and it's not his fault. It's
just that the defense is that good?

Speaker 3 (53:46):
Yeah. I mean, Demiko Ryans knows what he's doing, first
of all. We know that. And they used to get
out to get after the quarterback in San Francisco when
he was there, and they're getting after the quarterback now.
But the Josh Allen that I saw late in that
game Thursday was one that looked high. He just looked beaten,
like there was just a look on his face of
kind of bewilderment, like I don't know what I'm supposed

(54:06):
to do. And that I think that backs up your
overwhelmed point, Like he knew he could not trust this protection,
and Houston knew he couldn't trust this protection, and it
was a recipe for disaster, and that's why you got
the result that you did.

Speaker 2 (54:21):
The result was a sloppy loss. Credit, you know, I
guess credit to the Houston Texans. I don't know how
much it means a big picture for their season. They
are very much in the playoff race though, and it's
worth noting they are one spot right now, the Houston
Texans sitting at six and five overall, you know who
they're ahead of? The five and five Kansas City Chiefs

(54:43):
h Kansas City. Is it playoffs or bust tomorrow against
the Colts. We'll discuss that next. Fox Sports Radio Welcome

the news desk. Steve de Sager, speaking of takes we
don't like, I'm not cool with Arnie Spanier walking into
the house that I built gamble pavilion and coming out
with a win this weekend. But that's another conversation. He

(55:35):
was there, you know, I will say I'm exual he
was at the game. He was, yeah, he was in stores.

Speaker 4 (55:39):
He left the house. I know it was a minor miracle.

Speaker 3 (55:42):
I mean after hitting me up any hur he tore
something up after the game.

Speaker 2 (55:45):
He did it was a fake mad you come was
down two starters, but uh yeah, he only left the
house after begging me to help him get tickets for
like three straight weeks and then finally just plunging in
paying full price. I'm like, I literally haven't been in
Connecticut in fifteen years.

Speaker 4 (55:59):
I don't know anybody. I'm sorry.

Speaker 8 (56:01):
And how did he get tickets? Because that was the
on campus game, right, they didn't go to part for
it for that.

Speaker 3 (56:05):
Wouldn't you think he would know somebody at Arizona?

Speaker 2 (56:10):
Yeah, that was what I said. I was like, yeah,
call you want to know how to And that was
the thing. How do I know where the Arizona seats are?
I'm like, call the school. I don't work in the
ticket office at eCOM, but he.

Speaker 4 (56:22):
Was there and he saw it, but you don't. I don't.

Speaker 2 (56:24):
I that'd be a heck of a double dip, be
a tough commute, I'm not gonna lie. Not a lot
of direct flights from Burbank to stores, you know, back
and forth.

Speaker 4 (56:33):
But well, it was entertaining the college game.

Speaker 8 (56:35):
Earlier this week, we've got three late games in college football.
Washington leads at UCLA twenty to nothing. One of those
touchdowns was a scoop and score when UCLA tried that
fake field goal. Well, the holder is still on one
knee and he slips the ball over his shoulder. Yeah,
not a good flip. Washington picked it up, ran the
other way twenty to nothing. Huskies at the half at

(56:56):
the Rose Bowl. Fresno stayed at home, leads seventeen to
seven against Utah State, and early third quarter at San
Diego State, the Aztecs, already eight and two this year,
are leading eighteen three against San Jose State. Josh Allen
was at Wyoming today seeing his jersey retired. Wyoming lost
at home to Nevada thirteen to seven. It was Boise

(57:18):
State winning tonight forty nine twenty one against Colorado State,
and last night UNLV went to nine and two with
a victory over Hawaii thirty eight to ten. Today Number
seven Oregon defeated USC forty two to twenty seven. Eighth
ranked to Oklahoma got a home win against Missouri seventeen
to six. Number eleven BYU won tonight twenty six fourteen

(57:39):
at Cincinnati. It was twenty to fourteen with a minute
to go. Twelfth rank Utah was trailing in the fourth
quarter and still won fifty one forty seven to Kansas
State and Pittsburgh won in an upset at number sixteen
Georgia Tech tonight forty two to twenty eight. Wisconsin beat
Illinois twenty seven ten. TCU won at Houston seventeen. Fourteen

(58:00):
wins for Tulane, North Texas and James Madison, one of
them could be in the College Football Playoff. Northwestern played
at Wrigley Field again and got a late field goal
to edge Minnesota thirty eight thirty five. Iowa needed thirteen
points in the fourth quarter, getting a forty four yard
field goal as time expired to edge Michigan State twenty
to seventeen. Spartans oh to eight. In Conference Penn State

(58:23):
was one and six in the Big Ten, but rolled
in Nebraska tonight thirty seven to ten. Kennesaw State six
and one in Conference USA after beating Missouri State. LSU
at home edged Western Kentucky thirteen to ten.

Speaker 4 (58:39):
That year.

Speaker 3 (58:40):
We're so close.

Speaker 8 (58:41):
Yes, this was a Western Kentucky team that was eight
and two coming in.

Speaker 4 (58:45):
This was an LSU team that was preseason top five.

Speaker 8 (58:49):
It's an LSU team that is six and one at
home and yet, yeah, these kind of games. Yale at
home beat Harvard forty five twenty eight to win the
Ivy League, and Lee High is twelve and zero after
winning at rival Lafayette. In the late NBA game, ten
seconds left Sacramento holding on to a lead at Denver
one twenty six, one twenty three despite forty four points

(59:12):
from Nicola Jokic, James Harden scored fifty five points and
the Clippers win at Charlotte Today one thirty one, one
sixteen victories from Memphis and Orlando. Atlanta sent New Orleans
to a ninth straight loss. Chicago edge Washington by a point.
Wizards have lost fourteen in a row. Detroit won its
twelfth straight game, a victory at Milwaukee one twenty nine

(59:34):
to one sixteen. Very sad news that former acc Player
the Year Rodney Rodgers passed away at the age of
fifty four. He'd been paralyzed since an accident in two
thousand and eight. Rogers from Wake Forest was the NBA's
sixth Man of the Year in two thousand.

Speaker 2 (59:49):
Back to you, thank you very much, Steve Sager, Fox
Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday in the Sunday er towards
Jason Martin, broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios
to Seger, Will are you join us in about ten
or so minutes from now fifteen minutes for his extended update.

Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
Real quick, Aeron, Ye, I was just real fast. You
can't understand how much people loved Rodney Rogers. Yeah. I
lived in Winston Sale and through his whole career saw
him play many times in person. Just he was larger
than life in Winston Sale. And it's just that that's
a tragic story with the accident that he had and

(01:00:28):
dying at fifty four. But I mean, he was just
he was kind of like the first of the great
wake Forest players that came during the nineties. You had him,
and then you had Randolph Childress, of course, but then
you would eventually, of course, get Tim Duncan and Chris
Paul and some of the guys that would come after.
Rogers was like one of those guys where I first

(01:00:49):
really could know the guys that I was watching. Somewhere
around nineteen eighty seven is probably when I could really
pick up names. I was about nine years old there,
so I could start to remember sort of the things
that I was watching. And Rogers hit very soon after
I moved to Winston Salem, and he was just I
just saw that story, and my heart broke when I
saw it because I just remember so many fond memories

(01:01:10):
of what a talent he was.

Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
Yeah, so I'll be quick on this too, but you know,
we don't we don't necessarily have to be quick. But
I was thinking about this is that you know for
me'm I think I'm a few years younger than you,
and my like first conscious memories were like, like the

(01:01:33):
first memories that I have of like kind of understanding
sports enough to like be able to contextualize things was
right around that nineteen ninety three NBA draft, Like I
remember the Orlando Magic winning back to back lotteries, if
you remember, and it was like, oh.

Speaker 4 (01:01:50):
My god, they wanted to get after they got shack.

Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
And then it was like, you know, they're trading the
pick and so like these were all things that were
kind of new to me, like, oh, you can trade
picks and what's the NBA draft lottery and all that.
And I bring it up because he was part of
that draft and so so I don't remember him as
the college play and by the way, Vin Baker, and
I'm not trying to make this all about Connecticut, but
Vin Baker went to University of Harford. You could literally

(01:02:15):
walk to the University of Harford campus from where I grew,
like my house in Connecticut. University of Hartford's in West Harford, Connecticut,
you know, ten minute walk from my house. So I
bring it up because that was like the first conscious
like memories that I have of sports and this and that.
And Rodney Rodgers was part of that nineteen ninety three
draft class, going number nine overall to the Denver Nuggets.

(01:02:38):
So I don't remember him as a college player. I
remember him as an NBA player. And I'll be honest,
like when I saw the news today, it was obviously tragic,
and I knew about the accident. I'll be honest with
about I didn't realize how good of a college player
he was. I knew, you know, back in those days,
like you know, you had to be like a.

Speaker 4 (01:02:58):
Really good multi.

Speaker 2 (01:02:59):
It wasn't like now we're, oh, you averaged seven a
game at Duke, but you know, we like your high
school highlights, so we're gonna draft you ninth overall. You know,
it was you had to perform. So I think I was.
I knew that he was probably a good college player.
I didn't realize acc Rookie of the Year, ACC Player
of the Year and then to your point, Jmart kind

(01:03:19):
of begat that era of wake Forest basketball, which I
very much remember with Tim Duncan and all those guys.

Speaker 3 (01:03:26):
Yeah, so not to do realist, but I thought that
deserve mentioned just yeah, like like I said, you were
probably a little too young to have seen it, and
that makes complete sense. But he was just one of
those like lunch pale, blue collar guys that did everything well.
And yeah, he kind of put Wake Forest basketball sort
of on the map to where it became a destination.
And of course you get a Dave Odom in there

(01:03:48):
and you start to bring in better recruits and then
for a time there, Wake Forest was a real force.
And remember, to be ACC Rookie of the Year at
that point you meant something because ACC basketball at that
point was absolutely inane.

Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
Yeah no, And it was funny because I actually thought
of when dis Segre gave that update, I thought of you,
knowing you grew up in that area, and so I'm
glad you took a half a second to share because
it was actually something that was kind of on my
mind knowing you know that you grew up in that
era of acc Basketball and Rodney Rogers ninth overall pick
in the nineteen ninety three NBA draft did pass away today,

(01:04:25):
as you know, not not an easy way to transition.
But let's talk about a couple NFL drafts or NFL stories.
Excuse me heading into this full slate of games on
Sunday and Monday. You know, we mentioned this a minute
ago when we were talking to Buffalo Bills. But part
of the Buffalo Bills kind of struggling at seven and
four with some bad losses to Miami and Houston, why

(01:04:46):
it's probably not being talked about as much as a
disappointing season is because the Kansas City Chiefs, sitting at
five and five, lost year Denver Broncos last week at
you know that, I called it mile Heagh Stadium. I
don't even know what it's called anymore, but they lose
in Denver. They now host the Indianapolis Colts. They fall
to five and sixth j Mart.

Speaker 4 (01:05:07):
It is going.

Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
By the way, if the playoffs started today and I
know it's only week thirteen, whatever I get it, they
would or week twelve, excuse me, they would not be
in the playoffs. They are on the outside looking in
at five and five, you lose to the Indianapolis Colts,
it is going to be some major uphill sledding to
get into the playoffs if you're the Chiefs.

Speaker 3 (01:05:25):
Yeah, and the Cults are good, and Jonathan Taylor is
you know, at least sort of an outside MVP candidate
right now, and it's not like the Chief's done a
great job stopping to run this year, and they've just
been very inconsistent on what they've been able to do offensively.
Now I don't anticipate that they're going to no show,
but you know, they've lost two games on the road.

(01:05:46):
Now they get to go back home, and maybe that's
going to change things. But conceivably, I don't think this
will be the way it goes. But conceivably, by the
evening of November twenty seventh, that's a team that could
be five and seven because they play the Colts on
Sunday and then on Thanksgiving they play at Dallas, and

(01:06:07):
Dallas is a team that can score points and Dak
will be ready for that game and what goes on
there if five and seven going into the last five
games of the year, where I think I think probably
three wins are almost guaranteed there, but that Texans defense
is not going to make it easy for you. The
Chargers have something to play for. And then you look

(01:06:29):
at Denver again. With that defense, I think I'll give
you the Titans and the Raiders without much effort. It
becomes a bit of a struggle. Like they really can't
afford they need to beat the Colts. They really need
to beat them. They've got them at home, even with
what they've done. They need to impose their will here
because if they're five and six going into Thanksgiving in Dallas,

(01:06:52):
that's a rough way to kind of go towards December.
I know it's Andy Reid and I know it's Patrick Mahomes,
but at some point we got to look at this
and say it is what we think it is, and
it may just be mediocre.

Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
No, I agree one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (01:07:05):
And you know, I think we're past the point of
return on the Chiefs as far as like we can
just assume that they'll figure it out. Now they have
enough time to actually figure it out, and it's kind
of up to them. But you know, you start to
look at the resume. Listen, they do have some nice wins,
you know, most notably against the Giants. But you know

(01:07:26):
the Giants, okay, you know the Ravens obviously Lamar if
I'm not mistaken, got hurt during that game the Raiders. Okay,
So anyway, the point I'm trying to make, they desperately
need to win, like you said, because their back is
up against the wall, and I hadn't even factored in, like,
oh yeah, they have the quick turnaround on Thanksgiving Day

(01:07:48):
with the Cowboys. So great point by you. And you know,
I think the Cowboys We've discussed a couple of times here.
You know, they they've been understandably a whipping boy at times.
But you know, you don't show up ready to play
that team can beat you this year. Real quick, let's
stay with Let's stay with Week twelve of the NFL.

(01:08:11):
Shdor Sanders first career start Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas
against the Las Vegas Raiders. He obviously came in last
week for Dylan Gabriel, who got a concussion. Four of
sixteen passing forty seven yards, no touchdowns, one interception. You know,
it's worth noting because it certainly was a topic of conversation.

(01:08:33):
Really had no reps at all with the first team
prior to last week. Now, there were plenty of discourses
online about how much a backup generally gets with the
first team, but he obviously got all the first team
reps this week playing a Raiders team that is obviously struggling,
but it is on the road. Do you have any
strong opinions on what we should expect to see from
Shador Sanders on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
I don't know about strong opinions. I hope it's better
than what we saw last week was rough, and I
felt like the Ravens just felt like he's not ready
for this and they're not ready to protect him, and
they just came at him with everything, and he didn't
have answers. He looked bad. He just didn't look ready. Yet.
Now this week he's taken all the reps and he's

(01:09:16):
known he's the guy, and I sense he will play
much better, more consistent game. And I will say this,
and I heard this even during the broadcast. I can't
remember who was doing it and who said this, but
doing Gabriel, there's a lot of things to like about him,
but he does not take chances down the field, and
as such, Cleveland moves the ball, but then eventually it

(01:09:39):
stalls out and it's a very conservative soft, not particularly
dynamic in any way. Offense. One thing you have seen
from Shude whar Sanders, at least during his college career,
is kind of that gunslinger mentality. Now he wants to
stay in the pocket. He doesn't want to be particularly mobile,
but he's a guy that wants to throw the ball
down the field. And if Stefanski will actually open the

(01:10:01):
playbook up for him a little bit, I like him
to make a couple of pretty wow kind of plays
in this game against the Raiders. And this is a
team to try it against. Now, Yeah, I would say
Max Crosby is gonna have something to say, and the
Raiders may again just try to pressure him to death
and see if the Browns offensive line can hold up,

(01:10:22):
because if they can force him into being uncomfortable, he's
probably gonna throw three interceptions in this game and that's
gonna put them behind the eight ball. But just in
terms of his ability to make big time throws, he
was able to do that in college, So I'd like
that's what I really want to see. I want to
see if Cleveland actually tries to take some chances here,

(01:10:44):
because what I would say, is you got nothing to lose,
play the way Schadour played in college and just see
what comes from it, because I mean, you're not a
playoff team. Now see what he's got and if it's nothing,
then Oki doki. But I don't think that you can
play him in there and be conservative and expect that
to work.

Speaker 2 (01:11:03):
Yeah, it's interesting because you know, I obviously had red
Zone on. I'm not gonna sit here and lie and
say that. I was like, you know, locked in on
Cleveland Baltimore last week.

Speaker 4 (01:11:13):
But listen, no one was Yeah, well yeah exactly, but
I mean we.

Speaker 3 (01:11:16):
Were all watching red Zone. That's how we know what
happened exactly. Let's just be let's just let's just be real.

Speaker 5 (01:11:21):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:11:21):
The reason I bring it up was because you never
want to see anybody get injured, and I certainly feel
that way about Dylan Gabriel.

Speaker 4 (01:11:27):
But it was funny because I was watching I was
watching this game on.

Speaker 2 (01:11:30):
Red Zone, and I did have the thought of him, like, Okay,
maybe there is an argument that Shador Sanders is not
an NFL quarterback.

Speaker 4 (01:11:40):
Dylan Gabriel is not an NFL quarterback either.

Speaker 2 (01:11:42):
I mean, he just does not have the physical, like
serviceable backup like you said, Yeah he's a backup.

Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
Yeah he's he's a very game manager. Put him in
the game. He's probably not going to throw it to
the other team seventeen times, but he's also never going
to make the play that wins the game.

Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
Yes, And so I was actually thinking that prior to
the injury. Is you never again be clear, never wishing
injuries upon anybody, But I did have that thought of
like at this point, like what do you have to
lose to put Shador in? Because Dylan Gabriel is not
the long term answer and he's serviceable and he's fine,
he's whatever, And so I am curious to see what
he has and I don't know what he has, and

(01:12:18):
it wasn't pretty, as you said, but I am curious
to see, if you know, if we learn any you know,
let me put it this way, I'm curious to see
if we learn anything positive on Sunday because it was
not pretty last week. I'll also say this to your point,
it just does not seem like Kevin Stefanski trusts him
in any way, shape or form. So maybe there's an

(01:12:41):
offscript player two where he can do what he needs
to do or prove what he needs to prove. But
I'm just curious if we learn anything on a positive
front this week with Shadors.

Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
So, yeah, we'll find out. I will say that at
some point it starts to be a Kevin Stefanski problem.
I agree, Like at some point right like before what
we're seeing in Minnesota happen. We have seen Stefanski let
Baker Mayfield go yep, And we've seen what's happened at
the quarterback position since then, and we've seen nobody get

(01:13:11):
better as a quarterback there. And he was supposed to
be this offensive guru. Eventually that needs to stick to him.
I know you can't change coaches year after year after year,
but like if I'm Miles Garrett, I'm in the front office, like,
can we get somebody that can win a game? Do
you see what I'm doing on defense? Like? How long
are we going to squander this?

Speaker 4 (01:13:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
No, I don't disagree, and I do think I do
think that. Listen, I think the discourse on Kevin missus
Kevin Stefanski, excuse me, plenty have shared their opinions, but
I do think like at some point, like you said,
is like let Shadoor loose. We know Dylan Gabriel is
not the answer. Even if we don't think Shador's the answer,

(01:13:53):
what is the harm in and giving him a shot
and not only giving him a shot to start, which
obviously is by default, but I think more importantly giving
him a shot to see if he's actually the guy.
Fox Sports Radio air tors Jason Martin, broadcasting live from
the Fox Sports Radio studios. One guy that I know
is the guy. That's Steve Desager. He's gonna have his
extended update next Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back, everybody, Fox

(01:14:20):
Sports Radio aer toards, Jason Martin. We are broadcasting live
from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Yes, we are live
here at twelve forty eight Eastern time, and as we
do at this time every week, let's get it over
the news desk. Steve de Sager, what is trending here
twelve forty eight Eastern.

Speaker 8 (01:14:38):
Well, College football Selection Sunday is not that far away.
December seventh is only a couple weeks away. Who will
the twelve playoff teams will be? Essentially, it's you're ranked
in the top ten at the end, you're in, and
then the ACC champion would be in. There is no
acc team in the top ten right now, and then
the best of the group of five, which could be

(01:15:00):
Tulane or James Madison, which needed a fourth tour touchdown
to win against Washington State. North Texas is ten and
one as well. BYU's right on the cusp but number
eleven in the committee rankings. BYU was ahead at Cincinnati
twenty to fourteen tonight with a minute to go. They
made sure to score again Lates twenty six to fourteen
the final. The Bearcats on field goal attempts oh for

(01:15:23):
three lost at home, missing from forty two yards out,
from forty from forty eight yards, then they fumbled at
about the BYU twenty yard line. Also in the first half,
Cincinnati was stopped on a fourth and one at three
and Utah, like BYU, is just out of the top
ten twelve ranked Utes were trailing Kansas State forty seven
to thirty five was seven minutes to go, and Utah

(01:15:46):
won the game fifty one forty seven. Each team had
over five hundred fifty yards of offense. There was a
runner for the Wildcats, Joe Jackson on twenty four carries
had two hundred and ninety three yards rushing and three scores.
In fact, case, as a team four hundred and seventy
two yards rushing and they did not win the game.

(01:16:06):
Most rushing yards by a losing team since Army in
twenty seventeen. Essentially, the regular season in college football ends
next Saturday night. One of the late games will be
Notre Dame at Stanford. The late game will be a
Hawaii home game against Wyoming. And then the weekend after
that is the first weekend of December. It's the conference

(01:16:26):
championship game weekend. We'll have four from the so called
lesser conferences on the Friday night, including the Mountain West
title game on Fox TV. Those will be at campus
sites on that first Friday of December, including James Madison
at home in the Sun Belt. Then we'll have the
conference title games on the first Saturday, the sixth of December.

(01:16:47):
It'll be finished off by the Fox TV game the
Big Ten Championship, which is in Indiana. Indianapolis is hosting that.
The Army Navy game is not till mid December, a
week after the conference championship games that will be in Baltimore.
Among the Top Ten, we had some predictably blowout games

(01:17:08):
and that's what happens when you only play eight conference
games like the SEC has had for years. So we
had number three Texas A and M hosting Samford, not Stanford, Samford,
which is one and eleven.

Speaker 4 (01:17:22):
A and M is eleven to.

Speaker 8 (01:17:23):
Zero after shutting him out forty eight to nothing, and Friday,
A and M will play at Texas. But Samford as
a team today thirty one carries thirty one yards rushing,
They punted twelve times and only had three first downs
in the entire game. At A and M, Samford on
third down conversions went zero for fifteen. Marcel read three

(01:17:45):
touchdown passes in the first quarter of this route. Samford
had lost its season opener at thirty four to three
to West Georgia, so no, they were probably not getting
close at A and M today. Number four Georgia hosted
and blitzed Charlotte thirty five three. Remember early in the season,
and Belichick's North Carolina crew beat Charlotte. Hey, that's a
w the first of not many, actually, because Charlotte is

(01:18:07):
one and ten. They lost twenty to three to North
Carolina early in the season. They were down twenty eight
to nothing at Georgia in the second quarter. Today, Charlotte
finished with eight punts seven first downs. Georgia had thirty
first downs. Friday, it's Georgia against Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
Georgia Tech, ranked sixteenth in the country coming into this weekend,

(01:18:28):
needed a win tonight for its birth in the ACC
title game. Georgia Tech was beaten at home by Pitt,
which was up twenty eight nothing early second quarter forty
two to twenty eighth the final. So three teams are
six and one each in the ACC Virginia, Pitt, and SMU.
The Georgia Tech defense did have six sacks tonight, but
Georgia Tech has now lost two of three this month,

(01:18:51):
blowouts at Notre Dame and at Alabama.

Speaker 3 (01:18:54):
Number nine.

Speaker 8 (01:18:54):
Notre Dame led Syracuse thirty five nothing in the first
quarter seventy to seven the final. The Irish defense with
five sacks. Notre Dame has mentioned finishes at Stanford late
next Saturday, Jeremiah Love on eight carries, had one hundred
and seventy one yards rushing and three touchdowns at Notre
Dame Stadium. The offense had only eighteen minutes time of

(01:19:15):
possession and scored seventy points. Number ten Alabama over Eastern
Illinois fifty six nothing, Eastern Illinois three and nine. Last
week they lost at Lyndon Wood forty two to twelve.

Speaker 4 (01:19:28):
So no, exactly, it's your homework. Tonight's say West Georgia.

Speaker 3 (01:19:32):
I was like, that's a region that's not a school.

Speaker 4 (01:19:36):
Well take it.

Speaker 8 (01:19:37):
Take a queue from March Madness. Directional school might not
be very good.

Speaker 2 (01:19:41):
Yeah, when it's the six degrees of West Georgia, I
don't know if the SEC was really pushing itself.

Speaker 8 (01:19:47):
Eastern Illinois at Bama today four of nine passing twenty
yards on the ground, thirty carries fourteen yards, so added
up they had thirty four yards of total offense for
four quarters of today.

Speaker 2 (01:19:59):
They just show up and ask for the publisher's clearinghouse
check and then just take it neither rest.

Speaker 3 (01:20:03):
Of me to get a check.

Speaker 4 (01:20:04):
I think we're pretty sure on that one.

Speaker 3 (01:20:05):
Ty Simpson.

Speaker 8 (01:20:06):
By the way, no touchdowns, two interceptions for Bama. Alabama
had eight touchdown runs, no punts. Well, Eastern Illinois had
nine punts and only two first downs. Alabama thirty two
first downs. Next Saturday, Alabama at Auburn, which is one
and six in conference.

Speaker 4 (01:20:23):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (01:20:24):
Steve di Seger, by the way, kind of bummed. How
many big Black Friday games are? I got stuff to
do on Black Friday?

Speaker 4 (01:20:30):
Anyway. Fox Sports Radio Air Tours Jason Martin Broadcasting Radio.
What's that?

Speaker 3 (01:20:36):
Nothing? We'll talk about it in third hour, all right, we.

Speaker 4 (01:20:38):
Got a lot to talk about.

Speaker 2 (01:20:39):
Third hour aer towards Jayson Martin till two am Eastern
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:20:43):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:20:46):
Welcome, hen everybody, hour three tours smart Fox Sports Radio.
We are broadcasting that I from the Fox Sports Radio
studios here at one am Eastern. Yes, it is one am.

Speaker 4 (01:20:58):
We are live.

Speaker 2 (01:21:00):
We did just get another score at the Rose Bowl,
Washington up thirty four and to nothing on the UCLA
Bruins Washington looking to improve to eight and three. They
face Oregon next Saturday. By the way, little blast from
the past, Bernie Fratto of The Bernie Fratto Show will

(01:21:21):
join us at ten twenty Pacific one to twenty eastern,
so about twenty minutes from now. We sedat Bernie on
every Saturday night, but you know that was what we
were doing. Four hours. We had a little bit more
time for guests. But Bernie follows US, and you know,
Vegas is the epicenter of the sports world right now,
not to mention that Ohio State Michigan is next week.

(01:21:43):
Nobody's more plugged in with the Michigan Wolverines Big Ten
Football than Bernie so excited to talk about him. Matter
of fact, Jmar you know, we talked about whatever you
want to call today slate in our one. If anybody missed,
you could go back and download the podcast. I do
think it's worth and we talked about this a little
bit last week. Michigan has to be the quietest nine

(01:22:05):
and two team in the history of college football. They
take care of Maryland in convincing fashion today and you know, listen,
I think this is a little bit of the byproduct
of the Big Ten schedule. They don't play when this
is not to dismiss them, but they didn't play Oregon.
You know, Penn State is obviously a marquee game even
though the team isn't good. They didn't play them. But

(01:22:27):
Michigan sitting at nine and two, their only losses at
USC at Oklahoma, did beat Nebraska, did beat Washington and.

Speaker 4 (01:22:37):
Very quietly, or at least it feels quiet.

Speaker 2 (01:22:39):
Maybe it won't be quiet by the time we get
to next Saturday, coming in at nine and two, as
they're sitting, of course, on that ho hum four game
winning streak with Ohio State coming into next next weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:22:51):
Yeah, like, I'm not. It's not that you're unimpressed with
two losses, but there's nothing about them makes me think
they're all that great. H a whole lot of football games.
I think that streak's coming to an end with Ohio State.
If it doesn't, man, we really are going to be
talking about a boogey man that they can't go away

(01:23:13):
for Ryan Day at this point in time. But like,
let's say Michigan does end up in the playoff, it's
not that's not a team I expect to do much
of anything. I don't know what, Like, I don't even
know what this season registers ask for them. Like there's
some schools where are like, oh, this is a success,
this is a failure. And you can already say that
for some of the schools that didn't come into the

(01:23:34):
season with championship aspirations but have overperformed, Like if Vanderbilt
misses the College Football Playoff, it's still a successful year
for Vanderbilt. But like Michigan. I don't know what this
season like because I don't exactly know. Did you have
them in the playoff at the beginning of the year.

Speaker 4 (01:23:49):
No, I did not, And you know I'll say I didn't. Yeah, No,
I didn't.

Speaker 2 (01:23:53):
And and in all so, you know, I thought I
was flipping channels again, almost like the Browns Ravens game
that we mentioned a minute ago. I'd be lying if
I said that, I, like you know, was sitting there
with a notepad taking vigorous notes on a forty five
to twenty win for Michigan. But I bring it up
because they did bring up an interesting point during the broadcast,

(01:24:14):
which is that you know, they compared obviously the twenty
twenty three title team to this year as far as
you know total snaps and and this and that, and obviously,
look Bryce Underwood, true freshman, the running back that is
now forced into action in Bryson Kudzel as a thirty
year junior that really didn't get any significant snaps before

(01:24:35):
this year. Their best wide receiver is a true freshman.
And so your question about Michigan coming into the year.
By the way, Nico Iamaliavo was just benched at the
Rose Bowl although actually I think he's in the tent.

Speaker 4 (01:24:48):
I hope he's okay. UCLA trails thirty four to nothing.

Speaker 2 (01:24:52):
So with with Michigan, not only did I not have
him in the playoff, like like to me, and I
don't I can't speak for Misskin fans. I don't know
what their expectation was. My whole thing with them this
year was just, Hey, prove to me that Bryce Underwood
is the guy, and build towards basically next year and

(01:25:14):
certainly his junior year, right, Like you knew he was
gonna when they signed him, He's obviously gonna start. It's
just the NIO world. Guys don't sit on the bench
for two years unless your name is Arch Banning. Like
that's just not the world we live in. And so like,
I don't care how talented you are, Like, it's just
going to be a battle to be great as a
true freshman. And so for me, it was like, Okay,

(01:25:36):
let's just make sure Bryce unter Wood is definitively the
guy and you know, don't get him killed out there.
And as long as that's the case and he shows
development over the course of the year, then I think
it's a successful season. Well, I bring it up because
today or Saturday against Maryland sixteen to twenty three, passing,
two touchdowns, no interceptions. Now, last week against Northwestern he

(01:25:57):
did have two turnovers, but overall he's mostly taking care
of the football. I think he's getting better. It's a
young team around him. So no, I didn't have Michigan
in the playoff, and I don't even know if there
was a win loss record attached to them that I
cared about as much as just like, hey, you spend
a bunch of money in on this quarterback.

Speaker 4 (01:26:16):
Is he the guy? Big picture? And I think that
he is.

Speaker 9 (01:26:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:26:19):
I mean, I just I haven't seen enough. I guess
I would agree with you that there's been some progress there,
but I just haven't seen enough from that position to
get a great read on it. I mean, I based
on what we were told he was going to be
coming in, I certainly believe, yeah, he's probably gonna end
up being a guy. This year just has just kind

(01:26:42):
of been I mean, you're probably right. It's probably all
setting up for the future. They were not positioned to
be a big time threat this year, so the whole
year was about building him for the future, making sure
that he was in a better position that you could
then surround him with more veteran guys obviously after this season,
who've had a little bit more football under their belt

(01:27:03):
and also maybe having a solid offseason as well. That's
that's probably the way it feels. I just I guess
what's kind of interesting to me is like they Michigan
is another one of those teams that I said this
to you in a text earlier in the day. There's
just a lot of these like Tier two, Tier three
teams that are still on the outside but are possible

(01:27:26):
could end up in the playoff that I just have
no interest in seeing in the playoff this year because
I don't think they've got a chance in the world.
And it's like, I just don't that doesn't sound interesting
to me, Like Michigan getting into the playoff this year
seems dull. Like that seems boring. There are some schools
that you know they never sniffet again, and so maybe
this would be a year where that would actually be

(01:27:47):
a fun story, But like a Michigan getting in doesn't
interest me in the least now. Unfortunately, like the more
this season has played out, the more mediocrity I've seen
higher up on the rankings board. I think it would
start almost with Oklahoma for me, where it's just like,
I'm kind of these teams are not exciting to me,
and I don't think they can make much noise once

(01:28:09):
they get into the college football playoff and so like,
I'm sorry, I'm gonna watch the games with bells on
because I love college football and so do you, but
I'm not really anticipating anything particularly dramatic.

Speaker 2 (01:28:21):
Yeah, Michigan eighteenth in the country right now, as we said,
probably the signature win, you know, at Nebraska.

Speaker 4 (01:28:30):
Maybe this Washington team, which is sitting at seven and.

Speaker 2 (01:28:32):
Three as they play right now with the Rose Bowl,
gonna improve to eight and three by the end of
the night. Yeah, no, I don't disagree that they probably
aren't the sexiest team. I mean, I will tell you this,
we'd certainly have a lead story on next Saturday if
they man, I mean, if they beat Ohio State. I mean,
obviously it'd be five straight years true freshman quarterback. Let
me ask you this, like, where are you at on

(01:28:53):
Ohio State? Because first of all, Saturday they take care
of Rutgers. It's not even close. And what was what
interesting was the they basically used it as a de
facto bye week. Jeremiah Smith didn't play, Carnel Tate didn't play.
They still cruise to a forty two to nine victory.
I guess what I would say is, you know, my

(01:29:13):
opinion on Ohio State is pretty straightforward. Is they deserve
all of the accolades that they're getting. They should be
the number one team in the country going into next week.
It's not that I'm not like sold that they're really, really,
really good. I don't know that there's like a huge
gap between them and some of these other teams, but

(01:29:35):
because of who they've played, when they've played them, how
they've played them, that's the way it's setting up. Like
I just you know, like I don't know that, like
there's fundamentally a huge gap between say them and A
and M them in Georgia certainly, which seems to be
coming on, but obviously the rankings would indicate that there
may be.

Speaker 3 (01:29:52):
Is Yeah, no, I think that's I think that's right.
I just got derailed, like I missed the last bit
of what you were say saying because I saw a
stat about Florida State to just oh stop me, get
in my track.

Speaker 1 (01:30:04):
But real quick.

Speaker 2 (01:30:04):
Before we get we'll go back to Ohio State really quickly.
Let's talk Florida state for half a second. But before
we do, if I can get my social media up.
My my computer is going really slow right now. I
saw a funny tweet. I'll get it over to you
and then you could talk.

Speaker 3 (01:30:19):
And then I'll get back to Ohio State.

Speaker 4 (01:30:21):
I just no, no, no, I saw it.

Speaker 3 (01:30:22):
I was like, what is that right? Possible?

Speaker 2 (01:30:25):
So before you share the stats, so, I just want
to say something funny about the state of football in Florida.
So Chipper Jones. You may have heard that name before,
obviously Atlanta Braves legend. I know he's from Florida. He
tweeted three hours ago, the ultimate embarrassment. This has to
be a a new low. Who is going to fix it?

(01:30:48):
And I didn't see a time stamp on it right away,
and so I was like, is he talking about Florida
or Florida State?

Speaker 3 (01:30:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:30:55):
Like, is this an old tweet from yesterday? I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:30:58):
So anyway, with that as context, feel free to share
your Florida state stats.

Speaker 9 (01:31:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:31:03):
So David Hale tweeted this out. I'm befit as I
saw it, in this column only teams who have outgained
their opponents by forty yards or more in all or
all but one game this year. Number two, Indiana, number five,
Texas Tech, number six, Old Miss, number seven, Oregon five,
and six Florida State.

Speaker 4 (01:31:25):
They've out gained every every opponent.

Speaker 3 (01:31:28):
But one, at least by forty yards or more.

Speaker 4 (01:31:31):
Oh my god, how it's that possible? I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:31:37):
You know what's funny is obviously I sent you something
earlier in the week because I know you're you know,
you respect what Oklahoma's done, but you don't necessarily believe
that they they coming into today, had been outscored like
as a team on the season, or maybe it was
in SEC games.

Speaker 4 (01:31:52):
I don't know. So this is the reverse of that.
They're the reverse Oklahoma.

Speaker 2 (01:31:56):
So they've out they've out gained every opponent but one
by forty or more yards.

Speaker 3 (01:32:01):
Yeah, there's only five teams this year that have done it. Indiana,
Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Florida State.

Speaker 4 (01:32:06):
That is funny.

Speaker 3 (01:32:07):
That's ridiculous. It completely derailed me off the Ohio State point.
But to that end, I said about this, I said
about Ohio State, I think last week. But I still
feel the same way, like, I just want to see
what they look like when they get challenged, because they
just haven't seen it this year. And I understand they're
that much better than the opponents that they faced, but

(01:32:28):
you gotta think they're gonna see some somebody's gonna punch
them in the mouth in the playoffs. Somewhere they're gonna
run into adversity. That's when I want to see Julian saying,
That's when I want to see Jeremiah Smith take over.
That's where I want to see Carnell Tate. That's where
I want to see this team really kind of show itself.
I know what we think they are, but we have

(01:32:50):
not seen them in anything that really feels like a
pressure packed situation yet. And I don't think they're gonna
get that at Michigan either. I just I understand the
Big Ten championship, but I also want to see, you know,
how hard are we going in that game when both
of us are going to the playoff and some of
those kind of things that might be playing into it.

(01:33:11):
But I just I'm still a little bit out on
Ohio State just from the perspective that I have not
seen that big time signature wind. That really impresses me.

Speaker 4 (01:33:22):
It'll be interesting for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:33:25):
I will say I thought Martin Weiss on the show
before us, Martin and Mozzi brought up a great.

Speaker 4 (01:33:29):
Point of it.

Speaker 2 (01:33:30):
Does they're gonna say all the right things about ever,
you know, all the games are the same or whatever.
It sure feels like Ryan Day is gearing up for
like you know, you know, I think he thinks every
year they're gonna win, but like resting his guys today
to make sure they're ready for Michigan. That felt like

(01:33:52):
statement feels like a strong word, but it felt like
we're gonna make sure that we're we're operating at the
highest level possible going into next Saturday. So busy Saturday ahead,
busy week ahead. By the way, I was telling Ian
this before the show. J mart didn't realize how good
Black Friday is. We got Old miss Mississippi State, we
got Georgia Georgia Tech, and we got Texas A and

(01:34:14):
m Texas Iron Bowl on Saturday, and of course Michigan
Ohio State on Saturday as well. By the way, update
I mentioned Nico Iamaliava had gone to the tent. He
is now going to the locker room with his pads off.
It's been a tough year for him, but certainly hope
he's okay. Remember last week he missed the Ohio State
game with a concussion and a pretty hard helmet to

(01:34:38):
helmet hit and knocked him out.

Speaker 4 (01:34:39):
Of this game.

Speaker 2 (01:34:40):
I don't have broadcast on, but I can presume it
was not pretty Nico Iamaliava going to the locker room
after he had been in the tent. Fox Sports Radio
erin Toeors Jason Martin, broadcasting live from the Fox Sports
Radio Studios. When we come back, we'll continue the Ohio
State Michigan conversation because quite literally the perfect person to
talk about that, as well as Shaidor Sanders' debut Sunday

(01:35:04):
in Vegas as well as the Vegas Grand Prix. And
he tells me he's got some really good stuff on
Lane Kiffen and his future Bernie Fratto.

Speaker 4 (01:35:13):
Will join us. So excited for Bernie. That's next.

Speaker 2 (01:35:17):
Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio arators,
Jason Martin broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Tell you what, uh, We usedab Bernie Fratto on every
Saturday and then you know, stuff changed and we haven't
had him on in a while, but you can hear

(01:35:37):
him every Saturday night following US two am Eastern, as
locked in as anybody pretty much across the entire world
of sports, and certainly with what's going on in Vegas
this week with Shador Sanders with F one with Michigan
Ohio State, it was the proper time to bring him back.
Bernie Fratto, what's up, buddy? How you doing?

Speaker 9 (01:35:57):
Gentlemen? Good to be with you us.

Speaker 4 (01:35:58):
Everything, everything's good.

Speaker 2 (01:36:01):
Let's start with Mary Mack bringing us in with mo money,
more problems Michigan, more money, not a problem for their
quarterback Bryce Underwood. Let's just start there. Bernie Frado, you know,
let me even start with this. So J Mart and
I were talking coming into the segment. You may have
heard our last segment, What did Michigan people, Michigan men,

(01:36:24):
if you will expect out of this year because I
didn't see very many people pick them to make the
playoff and whatever, And I'd just be curious going into
next weekend, we know everything that's at stake. I would
have guessed nine to three coming into a year where
you were starting a true freshman would be deemed a success.

(01:36:44):
But I'm not a Michigan man, so I'm deferring to you.
What were the expectations and obviously what has the reaction
been so far going into a going into an Ohio
State game that again has Big Ten title in playoff implications.

Speaker 10 (01:36:57):
Yeah, this is a de facto playoff game for Michigan
heading into the season.

Speaker 9 (01:37:03):
It's the same every year.

Speaker 10 (01:37:04):
Your goal is to beat Ohio State, win the Big Ten,
and get into the playoff, simple as that, regardless of
what the roster is or the relative experience. They've won
five games in a row. And I can tell you
before this five game winning streak there were whispers already
about Sherywn Moore. So the faithful are always itchy and
a little delusional and a little self righteous. Michigan will

(01:37:26):
remind you every ten seconds. Just go to one of
their games. We'll put on the scoreboard. They've won more
games than any Division one college football team in history.
Of course, they've been playing longer, they've played more games.
But having said that, next week is really.

Speaker 9 (01:37:39):
The entire season.

Speaker 10 (01:37:40):
And I know you can't watch Barstool Sports for three
seconds without being reminded how good Michigan is. Okay, what's
the reality though these streak ends this year you could
have actually had at the beginning of the season Ohio
State minus three and a half.

Speaker 9 (01:37:57):
That's now up to thirteen and a half. And for
very good reason.

Speaker 10 (01:38:00):
In handicapping, you look for strength versus weakness, And the
truth of the matter is this Michigan team is solid.
They're gonna play four quarters. They're for the most part,
not gonna beat themselves. But the big advantage the Buckeyes
have is their best players are far more experienced, and
Michigan simply cannot match Ohio State's skill this year. Julian

(01:38:23):
Sayan is completing almost eighty percent of his passes and
he's got two nfour receivers in Jeremiah Smith and Carnel Tate.
Michigan will not stop this team. They might slow him
up a bit, they will not slap this team. Meanwhile,
Michigan will not be able to keep up on offense.
They'll try it, but they just won't be able to.
And no, Max Bretson, you can't underestimate that injury. He

(01:38:43):
goes down today and there's a collective thud across Ann
Arbor because he's a heart and soul type player, but
just real quickly, that's going to the deeper's number, their
numbers deeper, excuse me, good thing, I have been drinking.
Ohio State's averaging thirty seven points a game and give
up seven, that's real. Michigan's averaging twenty seven points a
game of giving up twenty two, so it shakes out.

Speaker 9 (01:39:06):
I think it'll be a slugfest.

Speaker 10 (01:39:08):
I think Ryan Day in his DNA just can't play
this game free. But once he gets going and the
athletes take over, it feels like it's a pretty hand
I think Ohio State wins handily. What that means, I'm
not sure. Maybe by seven, maybe by fourteen. Ohio State
will win next week, all.

Speaker 3 (01:39:26):
Right, Berning, So that's the Michigan side, But I'm still,
at least there are still some questions in my mind
about Ohio State, not to how good they've been this year.
I understand they've played their schedule, but I want to
see what it looks like when they get punched in
the mouth by somebody, and we just haven't seen that
to this point in the year. I don't necessarily think

(01:39:48):
we're going to see that next year, next week against
Michigan or not. But how good do you think Ohio
State is when they potentially don't see anything of real
note until the Big Ten Championship get and then obviously
going into the playoff, they're going to see better teams
than they've seen all year.

Speaker 10 (01:40:05):
Well, that's an excellent point, and then there's a case
to be made for that's the old Mike Tyson adage.
Everybody's got a plan when they get hit. But I
think Ohio State proved that in the playoff last year.
They haven't been beaten since they were beaten by Michigan.
So there are a couple of things to watch for turnovers,
which you can never predict. Ohio State has an lead defense.
I'm expecting to turn Michigan over at least once, But

(01:40:26):
if Michigan protects the ball and if it's negative plays,
the game could be closer. One turnover either way could
swing this game. The second thing is red zone efficiency.
Ohio State is automatic, has been automatic when they get
in the red zone by scoring touchdowns. Michigan settled for
a lot of field goals this year, so I believe
Sharon Moore is going to try to make this a

(01:40:47):
fist fight in the phone booth. Play a ball control,
field position game, hang around to the fourth quarter like
they did last year. They're gonna have to pressure Will
Howe check that they're gonna have to pressure Julian saying,
but at the same time, he hasn't faced a lot
of pressure this year, so we don't know what that
looks like.

Speaker 9 (01:41:04):
Can Michigan to pull off the ebst?

Speaker 10 (01:41:06):
Yes they can, but honestly, I only give him about
a ten percent chance.

Speaker 2 (01:41:11):
Well, what percent chance do you give to Lane Kiffin
being pretty much anybody's coach two weeks from now? You
texted me before we knew you came on. He said
he had some good stuff on this and cures for
your perspective. Man.

Speaker 10 (01:41:24):
Yeah, well, we go back a long way in Aaron,
and I don't equivocate. I think it's pretty much a
zero that Lane Kiffin leaves ooh.

Speaker 4 (01:41:31):
Miss, you're on the Jbart side.

Speaker 10 (01:41:34):
This is pretty this is pretty well sourced and nobody
can read Lane Kiffin's mind.

Speaker 9 (01:41:38):
But I talked to a former coach.

Speaker 10 (01:41:40):
He's pretty well connected, and he broke it down in
two narratives. The first is the narrative he can sit
down in front of LSU and say, Okay, you want
me to come to your program. Hey, I beat you,
I'm stepping down. I not only beat you this year,
I outyarded you by two hundred and forty yards. I'm
going to the playoff. You're not. I kind of like

(01:42:01):
living here in Oxford. I never pay for a meal,
And unlike shad Or Sanders, I could probably go ninety
miles down the road every day and the boys in
the flat house will say, Lane, could you just slow
it down just a little have a nice day.

Speaker 9 (01:42:12):
Now, let's look at the money aspect of it.

Speaker 10 (01:42:14):
Lane Kiffin is guaranteed nine million through two thousand and
thirty one, and he's up to get a two point
six million dollar bonus this year. The bio for Lane
Kiff is thirty six million. They already get. Well, I
don't know what they're going to give Brian Kelly. That's
a big fistfight. But they'll end up probably having to
pay him. So they'll pay thirty six and they'll pay
ninety million to bring him in. Oh, by the way,

(01:42:36):
Old Miss is allegedly offering Lane Kiff in ninety million,
as is Florida. But I'm also told that Old Miss
is in a position if they need to to offer
and match to Lane Kiff in anything anybody else offers.
So Garry is fifty years old, he's done it all
started out coaching the Raiders back in what two thousand

(01:42:58):
and seven, whenever the heck that was two thousand and six,
been there, done that. I think he said, Lenny likes it,
he's got it made. I'll be shot if he leaves
Ole miss based on what I'm being told.

Speaker 3 (01:43:09):
Well, that makes me feel better about my prediction. And really,
when I heard that, and Aaron's made a good point,
that's definitely kind of made me sweat thinking about it.
But when Keith Carter the ad came out and said, look,
we're gonna announce lane Kiffin's future the day after the
Egg Bowl, I said, I can't imagine that you're gonna
break Ole missus heart after the Egg Bowl by announcing

(01:43:31):
that Lane Kiffn's gonna leave. But maybe Keith Carter doesn't know,
and I don't know, but I would say this, I
would rather be the guy to do it at Old
miss than the next guy to do it at LSU
or the next guy to do it at Florida. I
think that Lane Kiffin becoming an icon in a different

(01:43:51):
program that's never been there before. It's far more impressive
than going to a place where the resources are more
rich and where you're just going to be on the
list of great coaches.

Speaker 9 (01:44:02):
Do you really want to go down to that firestorm?

Speaker 10 (01:44:05):
Let's look at the last two coaches that won national
championships at LSU Less Miles one of it his fourth
year than was fired. Ed Orgeron one it in his
fourth year and was fired. This was Brian Kelly's fourth year.
It turned out to be a twenty car pile up.
That's what the whole situation is down there, where you
got the governor and everybody involved. My god, do you

(01:44:28):
really want to step into that mass? From a legacy standpoint,
Let's face it, LSU still a marque program. But like
you just said, and you look at what guys like
Mark Few have done at a Gonzaga and what you know,
Peterson did it at Boise State. Why not be that guy?
I think old miss I don't know when they won
last one national championship the fifties or whatever, but they

(01:44:50):
have be that guy that puts him back on the
top of the heat. By the way, three straight ten
in one seasons and they're going to the playoffs, so
you can't really count them out this year and any
given well, missus there, So you're right. I think all
of that deductive reasoning. Lane Kiffin would have to be
crazy to leave, and I don't think you will.

Speaker 2 (01:45:08):
A couple more really quick burn, I'll start with, by
the way, Bernie Fratto joining us. You can hear him
at the top of the hour on the Bernie Friddo Show.
The Center of the World for the NFL Schor Sanders
NFL debut tomorrow in your hometown of Vegas.

Speaker 4 (01:45:23):
What are you expecting?

Speaker 10 (01:45:25):
Well, actually, I'm expecting Cleveland to win. It's a severe
mismatch on both lines of scrimmage. Cleveland's got the best
defensive front seven in football. They cannot protect Gino Smith
and askting genties, you know, there's no holes for him.
And and oh, by the way, I don't think Cleveland.
Let's just put it this way.

Speaker 1 (01:45:45):
The Raider.

Speaker 10 (01:45:46):
The Raiders are a hot mess. All right, let's get
to let's get to Schodor Sanders. I've already grabbed Cleveland
in the.

Speaker 9 (01:45:50):
Four points for what it's worth.

Speaker 10 (01:45:53):
You know, the famed actress Lily Tomlan used to say,
I always wanted to be somebody. I just wish I'd
been more specific. That's how I feel about Shudor Sanders.
Here's a kid, famous, dad drives to Bentley, where's Rolex watches?
He's in the Hall of Ring Fame at Colorado with
his sparkling thirteen and twelve record. But I've seen him
as a fifth round quarterback because that's exactly who he

(01:46:15):
is now. In the history of the NFL, fifth round
quarterbacks have started fifty six times, got a first start
fifty six times.

Speaker 9 (01:46:24):
They've only won nineteen.

Speaker 10 (01:46:25):
Of those games, completed about fifty percent of their passes,
thirty three touchdown, seventy two interceptions, only a passer rating a.

Speaker 9 (01:46:31):
Fifty four point two.

Speaker 10 (01:46:32):
The Raiders faced a rookie earlier in the year and
kind of had their way with him and cam Ward.

Speaker 9 (01:46:37):
I think cam Ward's a lot better.

Speaker 10 (01:46:39):
Than Cleveland, and they're not that far apart offensively. Cleveland's
got no offense in neither his Tennessee cam Ward that
day pass had a passer rating A twelve, and I
checked out a QBR A twelve and a passer rating
eighty one through for about one hundred and sixty yards,
had one touchdown, one interception. I think Shudor will make

(01:46:59):
a cap couple of plays here and there. He'll get
picked here and there. You're going to see him hand
the ball off a lot to Quinn Shawn Judkins. I
don't want to hear anymore about the setups and the
conspiracy theories. It's all been debunked. It's ridiculous. I covered
an NFL team for ten years. These guys will do
anything to win. They're not playing games. That being said,
I don't think they like Shador that much. It really

(01:47:20):
didn't want them. Somebody wanted them, so they went along
with it. He's going to hold the ball too long.
He doesn't process what he sees. He runs out of
the back of the pocket when he's pressured, and I
know they'll have something to blame if it goes wrong.
His supporters wanted to succeed no matter what. So that's
my long witted way of saying I actually expect Cleveland
to win, but I think it'll be a very nondescript

(01:47:41):
day for Shador.

Speaker 3 (01:47:41):
Sanders Bernie. One thing for me watching at least during
the commercial breaks and then pausing when we get out
of it. The LAS Vegas Grand Prix this year. I've
just become a big time F one fan and have
watched everything, and I was just curious, from the Vegas perspective,
the logistics of hosting this event this last three years.

(01:48:03):
Do the people in Vegas like this or is this
kind of a pain because of the setup, because of
the way that that city is built and all this,
Like it looks great on television, but there have been
some challenges, And I was just curious, like, if you're
just walking around Vegas, if there's a bunch of eye rolls,
or if it's a positive.

Speaker 10 (01:48:22):
Well, the first year, Jason, you're well researched. Okay, there
was significant disruption to the city. There was all kinds
of traffic snarling, there were road closures, there was negative
impacts on lots of local businesses where storefronts were covered up.
There's lots of temporary construction enclosures, Employee transport issues created

(01:48:43):
a real community impact.

Speaker 9 (01:48:44):
Okay, So it was a real.

Speaker 10 (01:48:45):
Logistical strain on the city and there were actually safety
concerns checked that again, safety concerns. The second year, the
race had to be halted briefly to a loose mannle
cover Yep.

Speaker 9 (01:48:58):
Year three, the race.

Speaker 10 (01:49:00):
Organizers have acknowledged the issues from their first year, and
the logistics are quite a bit better, okay, and.

Speaker 9 (01:49:06):
So there's adaptation.

Speaker 10 (01:49:08):
There's a ten year contract that Vegas can get out
of after three years, but I don't think they're going to.

Speaker 9 (01:49:13):
I think it's.

Speaker 10 (01:49:13):
Starting to grow. The issue we've had this year is rain,
rain ironically during the you know, during the practice rounds.
So I would say the first couple of years, the
question is was the juice worth the squeeze? Was there
more pain than profit? That's local businessmen and they would
say absolutely absolutely. But from thirty thousand feet and the

(01:49:34):
macro perspective, it's an economic impact of about a billion
and a half.

Speaker 3 (01:49:39):
Wow.

Speaker 10 (01:49:40):
So as time goes on, I think the two are
getting more comfortable. But you're spot on with your assertion
that it's been there's been real significant growing plans with
a tangible visceral effect.

Speaker 2 (01:49:54):
He is Bernie Fratto of the Bernie Fratto Show. Bernie,
I'd ask you what you're talking about tonight, but you
just gave us a great preview. You a lot of
Lane Kiffin, a lot of NFL Shdore Sanders coming to town.
F one and of course a busy week twelve slate. Man,
it was fun catching up. Bernie was, yeah, we'll do
it again.

Speaker 9 (01:50:12):
I thank you. I enjoy talking to you guys. Enjoy
the rest of your evening.

Speaker 2 (01:50:14):
And when Michigan wins forty one to seven next week,
we'll get you back to have me on and.

Speaker 9 (01:50:18):
I'll take my medicine.

Speaker 3 (01:50:20):
I think we all will.

Speaker 2 (01:50:23):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm actually with you. I think Ohio
State breaks breaks the streak this year. Thank you, Bernie.

Speaker 4 (01:50:28):
We'll be listening at the top of the hour.

Speaker 9 (01:50:29):
Okay, appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (01:50:30):
That is Bernie Fratto of The Bernie Fratto Show. He'll
be on twenty two minutes from now. Let's before we get.

Speaker 3 (01:50:36):
But I will say this, like when we come back
out of the break, we have the most important story
of the weekend. Oh you know what's happening on Sunday night? Right?

Speaker 4 (01:50:46):
Do you want to tell America or should we save.

Speaker 3 (01:50:48):
It WNBA draft lottery? Baby?

Speaker 2 (01:50:51):
That's right, get your Golden State Valkyrie's conspiracy theories going
golden you know, frozen envelope. I'm not saying, just saying, well,
we'll prve you that. In the final segment, of the show.
I promise we actually won't, but let's get it over
the news desk. Final time to saga how fired up
were you for the WNBA lottery on a scale of once?

Speaker 3 (01:51:10):
At ten?

Speaker 8 (01:51:11):
The Rams are playing Sunday night against Baker Mayfield in
the Tampa Bay Box. That's all I need to say.
We'll get to NFL news in a minute. There is
late night college football still going on. UCL's just scored
on a fumble return, so Washington forty one to fourteen

LSU next Saturday to end the regular season. Number nine
Notre Dame seventy to seven over Syracuse. It was thirty

eleven BYU made sure to score in the final minute,
so it's a twenty six to fourteen final at Cincinnati.
Twelfth ranked Utah came back for a fifty one forty

(01:52:56):

(01:53:19):
early in the third, had four turnovers in the game.
ASU still wins forty two seventeen and Colorado is one
and seven in conference. The Bengals did not activate quarterback
Joe Burrow, so Joe Flacca will start Sunday against the Patriots,
who won eight straight. Burrow's been out since September with
a tow injury. Could return on Thanksgiving Night when they

(01:53:39):
play at Baltimore. Keep in mind Bengals wide receiver Jamar
Chase is serving the one game suspension Tomorrow. San Francisco
kicker Eddie Piniero out with a hamstring injury. The forty
nine Ers did confirm that they voided next year's guaranteed
money for injured wide receiver Brandon Ayuk Packers running back
Josh Jacobs is a game time decision. He was limited
in practice this Friday with a knee injury, and Green

great evening back tomorrow. Okay, victory Sunday with Arnie Spanier,
the Arizona Wildcats winning this week, and of course Chris
playing's Oklahoma Sooners. Yeah, yeah, first time in a while
you can play that, at least when Arnie was in
the building. But uh, all right to Sagre, thank you
very much. Fox Sports Radio er tors Jason Martin. One

(01:55:31):
segment left. You gotta hear what Fernando Mendoz has said
this week. That's next. Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back everybody.

(01:56:12):
quick notes from today's college football. I saw this, you'll
love this. So LSU survived Western Kentucky. We won't break
that one down. But I did not know this. Apparently
Brian Kelly's son is a walk on at LSU. Brian
Kelly did not show up to senior day to walk

(01:56:33):
his son out and be honored before the game.

Speaker 3 (01:56:35):
Yeah, you know, I actually think he probably made the
right call on that one, do you?

Speaker 8 (01:56:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:56:39):
Probably? Wow, let it be about your son. I understand
you don't in that case, are you making it about you?
I think you're kind of making it about your son
by just not just just let him have his honor
because it doesn't it's not it's not something that concerns
you and the way that that ended and all that.

Speaker 4 (01:56:56):
Like, I don't know, I kind of don't know, may.

Speaker 3 (01:56:59):
I kind of I don't know, I kind of I
can't make the see the idea of not being there,
especially when you're in a fight over your buyout.

Speaker 2 (01:57:06):
The thing I will say, his son is a walk on,
and he probably did see He played at a Grand
Valley State, which is ironically where Brian Kelly started his career,
and so he transferred this year, and so I wonder
if it's like a COVID year. I know the COVID
year is done, but I wonder if it's like a
COVID year situation where maybe he did already have a
senior day and this was kind of like the second one.

(01:57:26):
I will say, I kind of you can. You cannot
make it about you, Although to your point, I guess
maybe he's getting booed as.

Speaker 3 (01:57:33):
What I'm saying. Yeah, I just I don't know about
him showing his face right now. I think that that
that destroys anything that his son might have might have
gotten in that moment. So I think he would have
been such a distraction there that it might have been
better to stay, even though I'm sure that was hard
for him not being there with his son.

Speaker 4 (01:57:53):
All Right, really quick, do you want to wrap on
one more thing? Just a quick yes?

Speaker 9 (01:57:57):
Not?

Speaker 2 (01:57:57):
Did you see Fernando Mendoza on the podcast with Rob
Stone mark Ingraman urban Meyer this week?

Speaker 4 (01:58:04):
There was a clip that a crazy viral. Okay, no,
I'm gonna set it up.

Speaker 2 (01:58:07):
I I it's more of a visual thing, but it's
pretty good audio as well. The guys basically asked him
take us through the final play against Penn State, and
I think they were expecting the whole Uh yeah, I
just had to rally the troops. Credit Omark Cooper with
the big catch. Here's how Fernando Mendoza answered the question.

Speaker 4 (01:58:27):
Uh yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:58:28):
They played kind of like their two joker structure where
it's it's a little similar and they have this middle
safety who is really reading off the quarterback size and
really playing off that speed.

Speaker 12 (01:58:40):
And so we had speed of the field there. We
had number three, Omar Cooper Junior, who made a fantastic catch.
And so when I when I caught the ball, I
looked over there and I saw his hips turn, his
hips and eyes turn to that point, all I knew
I needed to just beat that boundary croll defender and
beat that boundary safety. And once I saw a safety
go over the top to the outside receiver defending the
whole shot, I knew that I needed to put some

(01:59:01):
arc and layer on it over the hook defense after
that that kind of like the hook curl defender in
order to make that completion because I knew the other guy,
the joker had.

Speaker 1 (01:59:10):
His hips to the speed.

Speaker 3 (01:59:11):
I got his face right now, hold on, look at you.

Speaker 4 (01:59:14):
Look at this. I've ever heard this is what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (01:59:18):
Look at you.

Speaker 4 (01:59:20):
This is as intense and happening in years.

Speaker 2 (01:59:23):
That was That was Fernando Mendoza breaking down the game
winning play against Penn State. J mart we have literally
like twenty seconds. Urban Meyer literally almost fainted on air
as Fernando Mendoza broke it down.

Speaker 3 (01:59:35):
Uh. That was awesome. That was awesome. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:59:40):
Yes, I thought it was incredible. It's one thing to
like have the play cueued up on on on a reel.
It's another thing to just do that off the top
of your head. There was no film. It was unbelievable.
I enjoyed the heck out of it. Tell you what
we got to get out of here. I enjoyed the
heck out of this show. By the way, got to
thank the crew, Mary Mack on the board, Ian from
a partner, Jason Martin, as well as Steve Disager. I'm
