Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is Straight Fire with Jason McIntyre.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
What is up Straight Fire by.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Um, It's me Jason McIntyre. Straight for Monday, December twenty second.
It is Christmas week, ladies and germs. I'm sure a
lot of people are traveling this week, are off work. Well,
you know, we work around these We work around these corners.
And we'll podcast today obviously hello, and then we will
(00:35):
do one tomorrow then and power down for the rest
of the week, and we recalibrate next week so that
there'll we know, pod after the thrilling Christmas Day NBA games.
And I just wanted to wedge that in because, oh
my gosh, due to NFL injuries, they should just cancel
the NFL games on Christmas.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
It is brutal.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
We're looking at three third string quarterbacks on Christmas Day.
Oh yeah, seriously, that's a thing. I don't know how
much of it we'll get into. So much happen this weekend. Honestly,
I watched a ton of football. I will say it
was one of my better gambling weekends of the season.
The timing could not have been better. But oh my gosh,
on the fantasy front, just a devastating weekend. Looks like
(01:14):
in my big money league. Unless Christian McCaffrey and Juwan
Jennings go off and in a good way, I'm gonna
be bouncing in the semifinals. My son's gonna take a
rough loss in the finals unless he mac can. We're
lined up in all three of these leagues. We got
Christian mccafrey, so there is hope. And after watching what
freaking Jalen Warren did to the Lions for the Steelers,
I mean, I guess anything's possible. So I know a
(01:37):
lot of fantasy playoffs are decided to good luck to
everybody unless you're facing me or my son.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Of course, you know, there's so much to start with.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
We could start with the Saturday night game Bears Packers
was unfreaking believable. We could talk about the college football playoff.
How about the four and oh we gave out on
this podcast, including mine. JM you Duke coming in the
back door. We're down in the final two minutes. I
guess to get the cover, but we've got to go
with Sunday Night football. I'm I'm still in shock. I
(02:05):
was looking in a perfect week in the contest. It
was three to Zho to one, the stupid Vikings had
a push heading into Ravens Patriots.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
So Ravens are up eleven.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
So Derrick Henry gets a touchdown run with uh, let
me get the exact time left, but I think it
was nine minutes left. Henry goes in and the Baltimore
Ravens after Lamar got knocked out of the game, okay,
and they trailed early, they came back and took a
lead with let's get the exact time here, Derrick Henry
touchdown run twelve fifty left in the game, and you're
(02:38):
up eleven at home, okay. And after that it was
all Patriots and folks, it wasn't just all Patriots, it
was all Drake May, who made every throw humanly possible.
He picked on Marlon Humphrey repeatedly. It felt like child abuse.
I mean, Marlin Humphrey was getting so badly beat all
(02:58):
over the place, and he desperately try like the worst
pass interference ever that was not called, like literally tackled
the receiver inside the five embarrassing stuff. And Drake May
might have stole the MVP award because that drive, the
first drive seven plays seventy three yards being bang boom,
you expected that right down eleven.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Hey, we got it.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
So then the Ravens get the ball back, and this
is what I have vv with. They don't give Derek
Henry a carry. It's like, what do you do? You
get the backup quarterback. If you don't see Henry back there,
you're not respecting a run game. Keaton Mitchell, yeh, he's
not doing anything. And they got a quickly punt and
then Drake May nine plays eighty nine yards unbelievable throw
(03:38):
after unbelievable throw and they get the win. And Folks,
the fourth and two play across the middle to uh
Diggs was incredible. I mean that was just an unbelievable timing,
the perfect location.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Josh Allen didn't do much in the Bills victory over
the Browns and Matt Stafford. Of course, Thursday night we
talked at length about it. He was fine. It was
better than fine, but they lost the game. Drake May
two touchdown drives on the road against the Ravens. Folks,
you could make an argument between what's going on with
(04:13):
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs and what went down with
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. This season that that era
is kind of over. The Patriots and Ravens, who had
a awesome battle for like four years in the AFC
for supremacy. I know the Bills were in the mix,
but they're not going anywhere because Josh Allen's healthy and
the roster's fine. But that Chiefs Ravens era feels over.
(04:35):
I mean, I like Lamar Jackson a lot, but the
injuries are mounting. He cannot escape anybody. I mean, he's
just not running like he used to. The dynamism is
not there. I mean Derreck Henry every game has one fumble.
I honestly don't know if we'll be back next season
with the team. I think they'll probably draft Jeremiah Love
in the first round from Notre Dame. But you look
at that Baltimore te They don't have any dudes. The
(04:57):
defense has nobody. I mean, Kyle Hamilton, whoop the damn do?
We can't one guy cannot stop anybody. I was just
I really think it's over for the Ravens. They're gonna
have to retool. This is not gonna be easy. The
Patriots have Mahomes and Reid, assuming read six around, they'll have.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
An easier retool.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
But these teams are looking up big time in the
AFC we're talking about I mean, the Broncos are not amazing,
but they're not going anywhere. Liam Cohen and the Jaguars
they look like a team that's gonna be around for
a while.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
They're very good.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
And then you know, frankly, if Joe Burrow is breathing
and in Cincinnati, they're gonna be competitive. I think the
Chargers they made a big statement with the win over Dallas.
I did not see that coming. And obviously Josh Allen
still around.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
You know, I could not believe what Pittsburgh did to Detroit.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
There's just so many surprising things happening in the AFC
that I feel like the run the era where you
just could pencil in Lamar and Mahomes for major threats
in the regular season and then a playoff Berth, I
think that's over. Rob It just feels like that run
is kind of run its course. Obviously, the teams will
be competitive. They're not going to turn into the Raiders
(06:05):
or Jets or Browns here, but the years of them
being a ten, eleven, twelve thirteen wins that those are
by gone.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Those days are done. It's over.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
You know what, that's actually a fair statement, and it
might sound like a hot take kind of a thing
until you realize that this kind of thing happens pretty cyclically,
like you're not expected to be this good for this long,
you know, when it comes to the NFL. That's why
it's called not for long league. If you look at
the Ravens, the last well the twenty nineteen when Lamar
(06:35):
Jackson got his MVP fourteen and two, eleven and five,
eight and nine, I think what was the year that
Lamar Jackson got hurt, So that's why they were struggling
ten and seven, thirteen and four, twelve and five, and
then this year obviously that the wheels come off seven
and seven. So it might not seem like it because
they never had the postseason success that you would expect
(06:57):
from a guy like Lamar Jackson. When he's two times
MVP missed unanimous, two times by one vote, you would
expect that a guy of his caliber maybe would have
at least got to a super Bowl in this in
this stretch. But because he didn't, I don't think people
realize that when you're winning, like you mentioned, twelve or
(07:18):
thirteen games a season for what six seasons, like that's
unheard of.
Speaker 5 (07:24):
In the NFL.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
And I assumed and incorrectly obviously, coming into the season
that with Lamar Jackson healthy, them coming off of what
I believe was a horrible playoff flame out last season
where you know, the dropped pass in the end zone
by Mark Andrews. You know, notwithstanding Lamar Jackson fumbled the
ball early, you know, didn't look like himself to the
(07:47):
second half, that they were gonna be roaring and ready
to go to win the Super Bowl, that this team had,
all the talent and all the salaries had all kind
of merged into this one season. This was going to
be the year that they We're gonna break through finally,
And we saw early on Lamar Jackson. The offense looked great,
the defense was terrible, and once the defense finally came around,
(08:11):
Lamar Jackson, number one gets hurt. Number two when he
comes back, he's ineffective. And it just felt like this
was one of those seasons, not quite as bad as
Kansas City, who never really got on track at all
throughout the season. This felt like a season with Baltimore
where they were like stuck in quicks and where as
soon as something would kind of start going their way,
something else fall apart. It was like you had an
(08:33):
old beat up nineteen eighty seven Chevy and it's like, hey,
we finally got that ignition situation fixed. Oh, it looks
like the Chinese starting to go out all and we
finally got this Chiny fixed. And it looks like, you know,
the fuel bump went out, And that's kind of what
happened with this team. And it all culminated. You mentioned
it last night. They're up by double digit there in
the fourth quarter. And then Drake Drake May May the
(08:54):
greatest nickname and all the skies.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
I don't understand what does that mean? I see it online.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
I don't get it. It's not because he doesn't have
a nickname. He doesn't have a nickname, so they just
what Drake, Drake, Drake May May.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
Yeah, it's Drake Drake May May. Because anytime someone mentions
Drake May, you never just say oh, mahomes Alan Rogers.
They don't just say May, it's Drake May, you say
his full name. So he is now known as Drake
Drake May May.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Well, he's not listen, it's two years. He's got to
do a little more before he gets a nickname. But
you didn't clutch.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Yeah, but Drake May came in and went full MVP
Godmo there in the fourth quarter, and barring something like
an asteroid hitting the earth, the Baltimore Raveins WI miss
the playoffs just like the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Well they's so basically if they if the Ravens lose again,
they're done. And if the Steelers win next week against
the Browns on the road, uh, then the Ravens throughout.
But it's weird, Rob. We saw three prime time games
so far this week. Obviously, Niners Colts is tonight. There's
not really best bet. I'm loaded up on the Niners
(10:02):
in fantasy and a small play on them at five
and a half and six, but it's gonna be impossible
for Niners Colts to match the primetime NFL games. So
Thursday Seattle Rams was probably the game of the year.
Then Saturday, because it happened Saturday. We're not gonna go
in depth, but the Bears are down sixteen to six
with two minutes left, kick the field goal, get the
(10:24):
on sidekick drive for an unbelievable touchdown, and then in
overtime they need the Packers to fumble backup quarterback because
Jordan Love got hurt, and then Caleb Williams with an
unbelievable touchdown pass, and I mean it was that was
one of the great touchdown passes of the year. But
when you don't get a lot of walk off fifty
(10:44):
yard bombs, unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
So that was the Saturday night game.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
And then Sunday night the Patriots come back from down
eleven and the fourth on the road, lock up a
playoffs spot and kick Lamar and the.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Ravens to the curb. Pretty amazing week.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
But Rob, what that does is that covers up all
the ugly worts that happened in this week. I'm just
gonna quickly buzz through them. But if you missed it,
you know we were all over the Titans. One of
my biggest wins of the week. Gardner Minshew gets hurt
and the backup has to come in, and I'm not
gonna lie. I had to look this guy's name up.
(11:17):
I pay attention to college football. Aludacun seventh round pick.
He's been on the Chief practice squad for years. I
don't know who the hell that is. And he looked
terrible and he's gonna be starting on Christmas Day unless
they could go find I don't know who.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
What's another like Philip.
Speaker 5 (11:34):
Rivers type story, Ben Roethlisberger coming back.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Ben Roethlisberger, drop your podcast for the week? Ben, come
play for us on Christmas? A ludicuon like who he's
gonna be. So that's one.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Quarterback that got knocked out. That was sad.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
We had uh JJ McCarthy at the Vikings. So you know,
I love the Vikings this week and if you got
two and a half great. McCarthy did not look awesome,
but his offensive line was terrible and his receivers kept dropping.
Then they forget to block Brian Burns, who levels McCarthy
scoop and score touchdown. McCarthy's like his hand is in pain,
and they start doing a test on the sideline. I
(12:09):
don't know if you saw this video, and they like
squeeze at one point and McCarthy basically crumbles to the ground.
I was like, oh my gosh, So McCarthy looks like
he's not starting this week. It's gonna have to be
third stringer Max Brosmer, who is not good and he
is third string.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Carson Wentz was the backup. He's done for the year.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Right, there was one other major injury that oh oh
the Lamar Jackson obviously Sunday night. So Lamar if his
back injury is that bad and he can't go, Hello
Snoop Huntley. Oh another one I forgot. Washington loses to
the Eagles on Saturday. Eagles with a nice cover and
(12:46):
Marcus Mariota gets knocked out of that game, and it
looks like Josh Johnson, I want to he's still in
the league. That kind of guy. He's gonna start.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
I mean, rob.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
So Cowboys Commanders on Christmas Day is like unwatchable. Cowboy's
just quit. Like defensively, couldn't stop the Chargers charging offense.
Hasn't a jack in weeks Lions Vikings Lions, just a
crushing loss.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
We're not even gonna talk about the end against the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
I don't know it was clearly OPI, but I've never
I thought they would at least do the playover.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
But I guess, you know, whatever, it negated it.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
So you're gonna have Jared Goff against Brosmer and then
Bronco's going to Chief. So Travis Kelcey's final home game
is quarterback is gonna be Chris o'lutikan.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
The Broncos are twelve and a half point favorites. Folks.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
I know we said it last week. These games suck
on Christmas, zero bearing on any of them.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
None.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Now, the Saturday game Texans Chargers is a good game.
Texans look like doo dooo against Rob G's Raiders. We're
able to pull out the win non cover. And then
the Saturday night game next week is Ravens backup quarterback
against Hackers Malik Willis because Jordan Love took a brutal
hit and he's concussed.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Rob.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
I know the lead doesn't care about what we think
about backup quarterbacks, but I'm keeping it one hundred with you.
The idea that they could extend the season is stupid.
All we're gonna get is more injuries. We saw how
thin the quarterback crop is. Rob, They just got to
get Philip Rivers off the couch. You see some of
these quarterbacks going in. The coaches are like, don't throw
the ball down the field, only dig get dunk, only
(14:21):
dump offs the screen passes. We don't want to risk
a Turnive like there's just not enough quarterbacks in the
league and they want to extend it. I mean, hell,
I don't want to watch a playoff game with Malik Willis.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
To you, it's dick bad out there.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
I mean, as a Raider fan, I would kill to
have Malik Willis at quarterback right now.
Speaker 5 (14:38):
But that's a different conversation.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
Let me work back from what you said number one, Yes,
there is a dearth of quarterbacks in the NFL, and
let me pull back the pull back the curtain really quick. So,
as you know, I produced the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio weeknight seven to ten pm Eastern shameless plug
and part of the job as a producer maybe not
for this show because you come in with a lot
of your own takes, which is awesome.
Speaker 5 (15:12):
It saves me so much time, But.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
There are other days where we kind of have to
help manufacture some stuff with the talent. And when the
Philip Rivers news came down, one of the takes we
came up with gas Calvin Washington and he had the
premise and then we kind of grew it from there was, Hey,
what does this say about the state of quarterback playing
in the NFL that Philip Rivers, five years off his couch,
(15:34):
can roll out of bed, nice dad bod in tow
and be the Colt's best option at quarterback with three
days of practice against Seattle Seahawks in a playoff chase, Like,
what does that say about the state of quarterback development
in the NFL? And there was a analyst from another
(15:54):
network who I'm assuming saw that clip on Instagram because
this person said, I saw this on my four you
page read our quote almost verbatim. So unless there's another
outlet that has the exact quote, then I would love
to hear I'll stand corrected. But came out and said,
how is this some kind of indictment on quarterback play?
(16:16):
Like don't you know that if Indianapolis Colts had any
other option of the Philip Rivers, that they would have,
you know, started him, that if Riley Leonard was healthy,
they would.
Speaker 5 (16:23):
Have started him.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
And it's like, oh, well, wait a minute, Riley Leonard
got a full week of practice in that first week,
didn't start Brett Rippen, who had been on the roster
as their emergency third quarterback you know for weeks didn't
get start. So yes, it is an indictment on quarterbacks.
The guys you've out on your season, you've had all season,
were not developed enough to unseat this guy off the couch, right,
(16:46):
So that's number one. Number two, I'm of the belief
that eighteen game season is a bad idea, just point
blank period. I think that the NFL would be doing
themselves a disservice by doing that because one of the
things that makes the NFL so special is that every
week matters. The scarcity of the games. If you on
a two or three game losing streak, that's the difference
between you making the playoffs and missing the player. That's
(17:08):
the difference between you being the one seed like you
know the LA Rams or potentially like the seventh seed
like you could see with Seattle because then go sideways whatever.
Like that's how small the margins are in the NFL.
But if you are going to do the eighteen game
then I think Joe Burrow has it right and I
think Patrick Mahomes has it right where they say you
(17:28):
have to build an extra bye weeks, you have to
build in this extra buffer that's gonna allow these guys
more time to rest their bodies, because no like you
have each team gets one like at week six and
another one at week twelve or whatever. It is, like
you have to do something because otherwise these guys are
not gonna make it through a full season. Not because
(17:50):
of Number one, the way they're developed. They don't know
how to avoid contact. A lot of these guys run
into contact, which is ridiculous. Shout out Jackson Dark and
number three defense. The way that the game is officiated now,
it used to be as a quarterback where you would say,
I Am not going to throw the ball over the
middle because I'm gonna get my guy killed, Like I
got to protect him from these kind of hits as
(18:11):
much as possible. Nowadays, because these quarterbacks feel like if
there's any kind of contact, we're getting the flag. I'm
going to throw it up across the middle to DeAndre Hopkins. I'
watching get the cap. I'm going to allow DK Metcalf
to take a shot in the knee because you know,
I'm not worried about that happening. And then ultimately it
does happen, and then ultimately you know your key wide
(18:31):
receiver gets knocked out, your running back gets knocked out,
and they keep talking about quarterbacks like, I don't think
this is going.
Speaker 5 (18:38):
To be a good thing if they expanded to eighteen games.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Did you see the bow Knicks hospital ball down fourteen?
Speaker 5 (18:43):
He throws a hospital balls bro and there was.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
A camera shot of him where he looked like he knew, Oh,
that's my bad. I mean, the dude's got stretchered off.
I guess the guy the receiver, Pat Something's okay.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
Pat Prant brutal hit.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
So I guess we could quickly buzz through a couple
other things that umped out at me. Again, this was
not a great week for games. It was a couple
of great games that elevated everything else. Panthers bucks Bryce Young.
All he does is deliver clutch drives when nobody's watching.
It feels like he has six game winning drives this season,
twelve in his career.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
That's not bad.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
He had a good one against Tampa Bay, made a
couple clutch passes Tampa. How's this staff for Carolina? Seven
and zero against the spread after a loss of season,
that's pretty good. That's good bouncing back. So Carolina right
now has the inside track. They have to go to
Tampa though, for one more meeting. I think Week eighteen.
It's weird. No matter how much we hype the NFC
(19:39):
South games, nobody cares. But I'll say this, Rob, I
don't know how much you watch a Bryce Young. He's plucky,
he's making plays. Now Tampa stinks they're one in six
ins thereby totally hemorrhaging. Listen, when you lose your offensive
coordinator every year to head coaching jobs, the brain drain
is going to be too much overcome. So I was
I mean, I'll just be brief. I was impressed with
Bryce Young. I think the Rams go there. They're favored
(20:02):
by probably a touchdown in the playoff game. Is that
is that fair or not? Really?
Speaker 5 (20:06):
Maybe?
Speaker 3 (20:08):
I just I wasn't overly impressed with them. I don't
know what to do with the Texans. I know you're
locked in on your Raiders. I don't want to hear this,
but we didn't have Woody marks in the backfield. You know,
they didn't respect the run game or the lack thereof,
so they just sat in the zone and CJ.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Stroud struggle.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
I don't want to hear that you were a two
touchdown favorite and you were losing in the fourth quarter.
You had eleven possessions and four worth three and outs, Like,
how are you gonna let Ashton Genty absolutely cook you
for two long touchdowns?
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Well, we didn't have the Al Shah here, our best linebacker.
It's like, stop, it's the Raiders, rob The Raiders are,
for my money, the worst team in the league this year.
And the Texans looked awful.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
I mean, just as I want to take them serious
as a legitimate contender in the AFC, they look like that.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
And now they play the Chargers. I'm sure they'll bounce back.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
Nobody's good as they're bad, or as bad as they
were the week before. But I'm sure you watch this
game closely. Did you think that what was the matter
with the Texans?
Speaker 1 (21:06):
They were at home?
Speaker 5 (21:07):
Here.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
This is gonna sound contradictory because I think I was
on the train when they beat the Bills, Like I
felt really good about what their defense is. And I
promise I'm not flip flopping. I thought this before and
I think this now. Their defense is elite, Like their
defense is one of the best defenses you'll see in
the late twenty twenties. Of the NFL, like speed all
(21:29):
over the place, they can get after the pass rush,
and they got two really good corners. You know, they
have a scheme that is very aggressive and downhill attacking defense.
Like that, their defense is going to carry them through
a lot of games late in the season, especially as
whether it gets cold and get into.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
The postseason football.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
CJ.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
Shroud has not looked like in All Caps franchise quarterbacks since.
Speaker 5 (21:49):
The rookie season.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
Yeah, like there is something missing with that offense. And again,
if you're saying that Woody Marks is the reason why
your office doesn't look good, then I don't know what
to tell you, but there is something not clicking between
the offensive coordinator, the play caller, CJ. Stroud, Nico Collins,
the ret Like maybe it's the offensive line. The offensive
line has never really geled the last few years. I
(22:10):
know it's better now than it was last year, but
they they have a problem where, yes, the defense is great,
you're gonna be in a lot of games, but unless
the offense can be at least plucky, Like you can't
hold everybody to fourteen points. Even the worst teams in
the NFL can accidentally get two touchdowns, right like the
Ashton gen Z broke free for a sixty yard score.
(22:32):
You know, like that happens to everybody you know once
every couple of games. And so I have a hard
time taking them seriously as a super Bowl threat because
I don't believe their offense is gonna be able to
hang if their defense navitally gives up twenty one points
in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
Yeah, I don't know what to do with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Rob.
I'm not a believer in this team at all. And
every time I pick against them, they show me like
a new element of their game. I was like, oh,
I didn't know they had that.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
Now.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
Some of the this is the Lions are just so
beat up on the back end that they can't stop
a nosebleed and it was bound to happen.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
But the weird part is the Lions hold on.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
I have a sat here in the third quarter, they
had three plays for negative three yards and they.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Had a safety.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
Like they couldn't move the football against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Like what absolutely.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Bizarre, of course, is the game where Jalen Warren went
off for two forty five yard touchdown runs. Now, I
did like an idiot pick up Kenneth Gainwell in Fantasy No, no, Jay,
that's you're not an idiot, You're smart. Yeah, but I
didn't put him in the game. I left him on
the bench for David Montgomery, thinking, oh, the Lions will
move the ball. Montgomery's easy ten points every week for sure.
I don't know what game Well will do. Game Weill
had a Monster game and the Steelers with Gainwell and Warren,
(23:45):
they looked, Okay, I guess we should addressed this DK
Metcalf incident.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
Rob so geez.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
That was my initial reaction.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
Nanson Romo say, oh, well, this just happened, and it's
just bizarre because I'm like, wait, why is nobody around
DK Metcalf, Why is he came Metcalf over there? And
for some reason, you see him grab some Lions fan
who has like streamers in his hair. I'm assuming it's
like a guy. You can't really tell, or I couldn't tell.
(24:15):
He grabs the guy, pulls him down and he's talking
face to face, and then he kind of like shoves
him up.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Initially it looked like a punch, but then.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
A new video emerged where it was very clearly just
like a if you grab somebody by the shirt like
collar and then you shove them backwards.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
That's kind of what it was.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Initially it looked bad, and there were some people who
were like, well, maybe he should sit the second half
so he's not suspended for next week. He's gonna get suspended.
And listen, Obviously it looked bad initially. Rob then you
take a deep breath, step away, and I know it
didn't look that bad to me. Now the counter obviously,
number one, don't put your hands on fans. Why is
(24:54):
he over there? You're telling me zero, I'll let you. Hey,
Big Dom of the Eagles, not let that happen, that's
for sure. Okay, how do the Steelers not have anybody
near Dk Metcalf literally, no coaches, no trainers, no anybody.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
Just let him walk over to a fan and just.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
I know that is that's It's not a great look
for the Steelers. Obviously it's idiotic by DK. I'm not
defending him in any way, shape or form, but I'll
just say this. You guys have been in the heat
of moments and somebody says something tough to you, and
you're gonna pop off, And that's probably what happened.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
Here.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
I would like to at least hear what the fans said.
I'm not excusing it. I'm not defending DK. I just
I want the full story before I overreact. My guess
is Rob, he's probably suspended for a game because you
can't let players grab fans and shove them like that.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
Oh one, I gotta tell you, if they had not
won this game, if the opis both of them for
the Lion didn't didn't get called, or either one of them,
excuse me, you know, like this is a huge story
because you know, even though that would have been a
situation where the defense gave it up and you know,
blah blah bl and the Lions came back and storm
back and win, the sub subhead would have been DK metcalf,
(26:07):
brawls with fan in Steelers, you know, crumbling loss, something
like that, right, But because they got the win, it
looks like with the Baltimore lost, they're going to clinch
that division relatively quickly here And because they played Cleveland
next week and Cleveland has nothing to play for, they
probably would rather lose. This is probably gonna sweat Durder
the ruck. He's gonna get spended one game and it
is what it is. Obviously, there's two sides to every story.
(26:31):
The guy who got played was a guy, by the way,
UH identify himself as Ryan Kennedy.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
Look at the Detroit Free Press about.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Five minutes of fame. What do we got?
Speaker 5 (26:41):
He said? What prompted the punch? Or he called it?
He pulled that his shuit, called a riped shirt. He said.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
All I did was call him by his full name
to Kaylin Zacarius Medcalf. I called him that he grabbed me,
ripped my shirt. I'm a little shocked. Everybody's talking to me.
I'm a little rattled, but I just want to say,
lions to win baby.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
He called him his So so we're supposed to believe
the guy just said the DK's full name.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
Call of his government name, and he got upset.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
Do you believe that?
Speaker 5 (27:12):
No? Well no, okay, kidding me.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Listen, I don't know DK.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
I will say he's been in the studio at Fox
and he is a large individual, like you know, he's
like six or four, strapping, like I mean, yeah, he
doesn't look like he ever has like a cheap day.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
The guy is shredded.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
And that's just very weird that he would call him
by his full name, and he would react like that.
But maybe somebody has video. I don't know, it's gonna
be a he said. He said, whatever. Okay, we got
to move on from that. By the way, Lions playoff
hopes are on life support. I mean, this was one
of the calls that was obvious. Okay, no Ben Johnson
(27:51):
offensive line injuries. That the center retiring was Boogle. They
were down to their third string center today and it
showed like Jared Goff against the blitz.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
It just kept blitzing him up the middle. He couldn't
do anything.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
Lion's take a step back. They remember Detroit Lions had
a good was it two and a half year run?
I mean they had two awesome runs where they nearly
beat the Niners in I think the NFC title game.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
They led that one and then blew it.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
And then last year they get smashed by Jaden Daniels
when Goff probably can cust had a bunch of turnovers
and that.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
Was probably it their window.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
I mean, I don't think it's closed, but now they've
got to find an OC.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
They've paid a lot of guys. The defense is awful.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
It goes so fast, rob the windows open and close
so friggin' quickly.
Speaker 1 (28:33):

Speaker 3 (28:46):
No, we're not talking about the Jets, but they are
up to fourth in the NFL draft order, which I love.
Saints fans. I've seen plenty of Tyler shuck. Okay, you
can get excited about them all you want. I'm just
telling you he ain't the guy. Okay. I know he's
four and three as a record, and he for some
reason the Saints had him.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Throw thirty two passes in the first half.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
I mean, guys, he's a fine backup if you want
to use him as a bridge for a year. He's
not a franchise quarterback. I'm just telling you that, like
you'd be happy with these wins.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
They're fine.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Thank you to Chris o'lave for the big stats. But
as we saw with Quinn Youwers, like anybody can look
good for a little bit. If you watch the Queen
Youwers game against the Bengals, he looked good in the
first half, ten or twelve hundred nine yards Dolphins were competitive.
Second half, Bengal score something on the Dolphins fumbles.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
Bengals score again.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
Of course yours when yours is pressing, interception and the
flood gets open.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
And that was that. But like the idea that people.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
Think, like, oh, we got franchise quarterbacks, Rob, we do
this all the time. There's maybe fifteen franchise quarterbacks in
the league. And by fifteen, I mean, you're good for
the next decade and let me, let's say five years. Sorry,
let's say five years. Let's say five years. Because Lamar
was thought to be a franchise guy. I mean, you
(30:06):
still have to say Lamar is a franchise guy. But
at his salary, it's tough to build around him. I'm
still gonna say this, Rob.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
I don't know if Bryce Young is a franchise quarterback.
I don't know if Sam Darnold is a franchise quarterback.
We thought Baker.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
Mayfield was one. The NFL is just so hard to
freaking predict. We do this every week. I think, give
me your give me your Super Bowl today, Oh today,
Jesus Christ. Okay, it's hard. Let's just go buy the
current standing. So I'll give you the quick playoff games.
So it would be in the AFC, it would be
(30:40):
Houston at New England in the first round, it would
be Buffalo at Jacksonville. That's a good game, Chargers at Steelers,
and then the Broncos get the buy. So coming out
of the AFC, I mean, honestly, you could flip a coin.
Nobody's gonna be afraid to go to Denverz. Just be
honest with you, guys. Your defense is way overrated against
good teams.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
I would take Buffalo, and that has less to do
with me thinking that they're the best team and everything
to do with everyone else. Of the quarterbacks is unproven. Yeah,
give me the guy who has at least some skin
on the wall.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
By the way, you mentioned quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
So of those seven Broncos rookie quarterback rookie quarterback contract,
Patriots rookie quarterback contract, Trevor Lawrence got his deal, I
don't know if it's kicked in yet, Steelers Bridge quarterback,
and Aaron Rodgers Herbert. I think he got his deal,
but he hasn't kicked in because he's like near the
end of his rookie deal.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Josh Allen got paid.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
C J.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Stroud rookie contract.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
So really only one big, big money quarterback in Josh
Allen NFC. Similar this is the story of the NFL guys.
Seahawks number one seed, their quarterback not a max deal.
Two what's his face? Caleb Williams rookie contract, Jalen Hurts
big contract. I don't know if it's his fully kicked
(32:00):
in yet because he's still like a young quarterback.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
It might think it has. I think it's early in it. Yeah,
early okay.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Carolina Panthers byce Young, they are rookie quar rookie contract,
Rams Stafford, it has kicked in, Purty, has it?
Speaker 5 (32:12):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (32:13):
This is your one?
Speaker 5 (32:14):
This is your one? Yeah okay?
Speaker 3 (32:16):
And then Jordan Love I'm not sure, but it's early
on in his contract if he has got the extension,
so that would be Packers Bears first round, Round three.
First two games were good Niners Eagles. I like the Niners,
but not in that game. And then Rams Panthers Seattle
with the buye.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Who do you got? NFC?
Speaker 4 (32:33):
I still think the Rams are the best team. I
think the Rymes are the best team in football now.
They could stop tricking away these games the way they have.
You know, I saw a tweet over the weekend. It's like, well,
they had the Niners, they fumbled at the one yard line.
They blow this game here against the Seattle they blow
what was it a ten point lead and with a
block field goal returned for a touchdout against the Eagles,
(32:55):
like they find these really odd ways and then ten
point favorite or did your favorites against Carolina and Matthew
Stafford throws two interceptions after not throwing an interception for
like a thousand passes.
Speaker 5 (33:05):
So yes, it was all bad.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
I'm kind of with you. I think ms Rams Bills
would still be my pick. It's not overwhelming, and the seal,
all right, we could wrap up real quick. College football, Rob,
I didn't even know this. Do you know the college
football Playoff isn't next weekend?
Speaker 2 (33:23):
Maybe I thought it was, so now they have like
twelve days. It's January first to which Thursday?
Speaker 3 (33:28):
The first for oh, I'm sorry Miami, Ohio State is
on Chris on New Year's Eve, so there's three.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
But overall the games were not that exciting.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
I mean even the most ones weren't that exciting, Like
the Miami game.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
It was the it was bad.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
It was bad football, but I mean, it was a
great ending, but it was bad football.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
And then here are the spreads for the next round.
Ohio State is nine and a half against Miami. I
was hoping for seven and a half. I think Ohio
State destroys them, but I worry about the Ohio State offense. Uh,
Georgia six and a half against Old Miss, Indiana six
and a half against Alabama. And then Oregon is favored
on Oh wait at Texas Tech.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
It's not at Texas Tech, is it?
Speaker 1 (34:10):
No?
Speaker 3 (34:11):
Yeah, hard Rock Stadium in Miami, so a long trip
for Oregon fans Texas Tech. You know they had to buy.
That's probably the best game. I don't it's weird. The
idea of the college football Playoff is way better than
the actual college football playoff.
Speaker 5 (34:28):
It's been that way forever, though, hasn't it.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
I know, it's it stinks, like, how come these games
aren't good?
Speaker 4 (34:34):
Because there's not eight teams or twelve teams or sixteen
teams that are worthy of winning a national championaire every year. Yeah,
if we're being honest, there are this season at best
four teams that you would consider to be national championship worthy,
and three of them play in.
Speaker 5 (34:52):
The Big ten. So what are you going to do?
Speaker 4 (34:56):
Yeah, if this was the old days, it would be
Indiana with the bullet number one team, the country, national
champion and NOBE.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
I don't think anybody's really picking them though.
Speaker 5 (35:03):
No, everyone's picking Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Yeah, exactly what do we know? We know nothing?
Speaker 3 (35:08):
All right, fun pod for a Monday. We're back tomorrow
to wrap up all things. We'll talk NBA.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Gosh, we need Austin Reevez back. We can't talk like.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
Ers here, but we'll do some NFL as well. Everybody
get on the Christmas presents, step to it.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
We'll see you tomorrow
