Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to sports. Great Aggs, welcome in everybody, Big
Sunday on the slate. Here a couple of NBA Game seven's.
We've got Major League Baseball all around. We've got some
live soccer coming up here in the studio, and obviously
the big story for everybody is Mother's Day. Mike Carmen
(00:22):
alongside Bill Plashky. You read Bill Plashki in the l
A Times on the l A Times dot com website,
Go and subscribe his latest up there. We'll be getting
into the Frank Vogel hiring by the Los Angeles Lakers
here in just a few minutes. But Bill, how are
you Happy Sunday? To you? Good, Happy Mother's Day. I was,
I was worried you said the big story today was
gonna be in the thought you're gonna say, Frank Vogel.
(00:43):
But yes, it is Mother's Day, even most of even
tops the Lakers latest lunacy, well yes, I mean certainly
here in Los Angeles. As we'll get to, people saw
some footage of the quote unquote protest on Friday. I
had just that was it. That was it that actually
did more harm than good, I think to the Laker
cause a bunch of high school kids coming down during
(01:05):
their high school break, you know, during their class break.
That was ridiculous. Yeah, no, there's there's a lot of
problems with that. I think if I've done properly, you
might have been able to send a message. But we'll
get into that coming up in about fifteen minutes from now.
But as you said, uh, it is Mother's Day. It's
a big day for for many. Maybe you're heading out
to brunch now surround your services. Maybe you're sitting in
(01:28):
line waiting to buy chocolates or flowers. I drove up here, Bill,
as I got off the freeway to get to these
Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. The little man sitting there
at the Whole Foods was ready five am. The flowers
were stocked, and he was ready to go. Yes, you
have to. Today's a crazy day consumer wise. I mean,
(01:49):
you know, everyone wants to bring your mom to the
nicest brunch. What you're gonna stand in line for two
hours and pay double the prices? Well, that's just it.
Should have done it yesterday. Should have bought the flowers yesterday. No, actually,
by the flowers this morning. That's actually not bad idea
because they'll be fresh. Yeah, but you're still gonna have
to stand in line and pay that extra five bucks
right or the extra sawbuck along along the way. And
(02:10):
you know, this is a good, good opportunity to show
mom that you learn some life skills along the way
and maybe cook a meal. I think it's cool that
mom's Anybody who's a sports fan has had a mom
that's enabled that being in a sports fan. They've they've
had a mom that has let them stay up late
to watch the games, that has dropped them off at
the arena, that has set there and and let them
(02:31):
lead the dinner table or go to do fantasy draft.
I mean, everybody has a mom who's a sports If
you're a sports fan, you have a mom who understands
it and gets it well. And even if they be
grudgingly do so. There are a lot a lot of
times one is getting you to a practice, getting you
to a game during the week or the weekend. I
mean there's a lot and certainly, you know, no knock
(02:52):
to the dad's either. I mean, everybody, it's kind of
a every It takes a village and but you know,
but it does fall. You know that there was the
words soccer moms for a reason, because the soccer practices
and the games are often when the dad's or when
a lot of people are at work, and if the
mom doesn't work out of the home, she's the one
stuff bringing them to the to the game. And see
it's starting, it's starting to flip a little bit too.
(03:14):
I got, I got at least dad. I do a
lot of soccer dad duty as well, driving down and
getting my daughter to her stuff. And then I take
the slings and arrows of the teammates. Hey, dad, can
you stand in and take some shots? So I pretend
to play goalie and I leave battered and bruised, because
you know, the instinct is still to dive and be
an idiot. All right, Can I give you a few
(03:35):
things that only moms do that only moms do? Here's
Bill Plaski's list of things only moms do. If you
and your mom were talking and you boast this up
at the same time, your mom always lets you talk first.
She always said no, no, oh no, you first? Right
am I right now? Not my house. My mom always says,
oh you first. My mom was always first and louder. Okay.
(03:57):
Number two, moms will always make you grilled cheese, no
matter when you're coming home, no matter when you're around,
no matter when you're awake. She'll make it for breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Do you want a grilled cheese? My mom asked me
that for twenty years and I didn't like cheese too recently,
and actually the mom you know, I don't like cheese,
but it's always they always have grilled they always have
the comfort food. Uh, Mom's are the only ones that
could be honest about your appearance. My mom has told
(04:19):
me that I'm fat. He's told me that I need
to get better at clothes. She told me that I
need to shave my goatee. She she says on when
I when I'm on around the horn, she says, you
have to wear a tie because your neck looks really
big and it looks really bad. So mom's you agree.
Moms would be honest about your appearance? Are the only
one word before that one. I'll give you a half
(04:42):
half a point. My mom will sit there and watch
a sports event with you and have no idea who's playing,
and no idea what's going on. They'll just sit there
just to sit with you. No, no, no, it wasn't
the Cubs. Mom had no interest and again, in fact,
hopefully we're gonna call my mom later on the show
(05:02):
and get her on here to talk about this stuff.
And the last thing, moms will always stay awake for
you when you come home. They're always there in a chair.
They may be dozing, but they'll be awake two in
the morning, ten in the morning, you know, three and
not three in the morning. They were there. They're always
there awake for you. Always that time that you came
in the door, you had questions the next morning for while,
(05:25):
even if they were in bed, you walk in and
you hear meal, honey, is that you or you home?
And then they go back to sleep. Oh yeah, usually
got the about time. Okay, god no, no, no, but
but she was experiences were vastly, vastly differentstely different. Yeah,
we may or may not call my mom later. No,
it's it's just the you know, everybody has a different path, right,
(05:47):
and you know, what's the coolest thinging mom, what's the
coolest thing you want be for? You? Make sure we
we looked around to get to practices. That was that
was certainly the case when we were younger, and then
it's as we were able to ride bikes. It was
beat it, go do it. But it is certainly early
on it was make sure you're at practice, showing that
(06:08):
commitment to showing up on time like a lot a
lot of times now kids just randomly skip practice. No,
for us, it was that work ethic of you joined
a team, gave you got an incredible work ethic. My mom,
my mom, and dad. I mean I equal because my
dad was busting, busting up doing you know, it was
a Chicago police officer also doing you know, security guard work,
(06:32):
doing whatever he could. I'm part of it to keep
us out of the Chicago public schools. But the other part,
you know, keeping keeping things rolling. With mom and dad,
it was, you know, put in the only thing in
control is your effort. It's a lesson we learned very
early in my house, my brothers and I. I mean,
that's one of the things. And if you make a commitment,
do your best to honor it at all times. And
(06:52):
certainly for our work side of things, it's, you know,
unless you're really sick, and certainly we don't encourage people
to add to the incubator here uh and cause problems.
But unless you're really sick, you show up for work,
you show up for school. And hopefully we've instilled that
in our kids. I've got a thirteen year old and
(07:13):
a ten year old, and they if they miss a
day of school because they're sick, they feel terrible about it,
like that's goods. They let their teacher down. And what
if your mom? What does your mom call you? Mike
Mike Mikey still pops in every once in a while. Yeah,
everybody else calls me harmon. But you know mom can
(07:34):
get away with a Mikey. Ever, anybody else does a Mikey.
We got problems, so everybody calls me plashy except for
my mom. Coffee Billy. See there you go. A tribute
to mom to continue over the course of the show.
Happy Mothers out there. Yeah, and as my uncle once
famously said, everybody's a mother sometime. I'll let you marinate
that one on a Sunday morning, had a lovely story
of your past. You need to write a book about this.
(07:55):
I'm working on a body. There's a lot's been shot
at and threatened. I'm gonna call you Mikey the whole day.
You're You're not gonna make it till ten o'clock coming
to your live from the getic Fox Sports Radio studios.
Fifteen minutes can save you fift or more on car insurance.
To go to Geico dot com get yourself a free
rate quote. Let's get into it. It's time to bring
(08:18):
in Vince close. And you know what he brings, the
good news each and every Sunday. You've got your coffee,
you're reclined in the comfy chair, and the dog is
relaxing at your feet. All that's missing is some background
music and some reading material. Mike and Bill get you
ready for the day, and this edition of the Sunday Paper.
(08:41):
Welcome at Vince. You want to give a quick nod
to mom along the way. Uh, well good, this is unbelievable,
you guys. What of my I prefer not to get
into my personal history with my family. I haven't spoken
to my mother father in about fifteen years. So there
you go. I apologize. Apology needed, No, no, no, nothing needed,
(09:02):
nothing bad, just something that happens in life occasionally. So
we'll go on. We're gonna go into the crime section
where Romane. Now a crime section. I think it's called
the police Blotterer. Well, it depends on where you go,
I've been to. Uh there's places in the South where
the back pagere on the like of all the people
(09:23):
that got arrested that week trunk driving or whatever craziness.
So Dennis Rodman might end up on one of those
uh newspaper blotterers. He is being accused of stealing a
four pound crystal and merchandise from a yoga studio in California.
The four hundred pound crystal is a g oed amethyst crystal,
(09:45):
and Dennis Robin, according to TMZ, says that the owner
told him to take a couple of gifts for helping
them move the crystal itself. So was he getting an
early Christmas gift? I'm sorry Mother's Day gift for mom?
Or are we being cossely accused here? Are we gonna
keep apologizing for Dennis Rodman? I'm just I mean, there's
(10:06):
been no official conviction in this, It hasn't gone through
the court system, but my goodness, it sounds pretty sketchy
to me. And I love the fact that they According
to the story, they walked to the the walk into the
Newport Beach location with three other people and then four
work together to distract and employees so they can steal close.
I'm guessing Dennis Robbin was the one distracting the employee.
Just dinnest Robin himself is that distraction. And he appears.
(10:27):
The biggest crime in all this is he appears in
one story I'm reading here in USA today. He appears
in the story We're in a charger cap. So that's
that's that's probably a bigger crime than anything crimes against
Los Angeles. Yeah, he disparted, claims that he was drunk
during this entire situation. So you've got that flowing out there.
You know, we've had numerous occasions d uy arrests and such.
(10:50):
He's not funny anymore, right, Mike, He's not funny. No, No,
this is this is sad. I mean, this takes it
to a whole other level. Now we're gonna distract so
we could steal a giant crystal wed a giant with
four crystal How do you can distract anybody to get
four pounds out of the of the room, and and
you had to come in with with a lift. I mean,
I mean, with that many people, I gotta assume that
(11:12):
Dennis Madman was the frontman for confusing everybody that at
least at least two people to carry a four hund
pounds and how do you not notice you're bringing in
a wheelie cart strap to your back and while he's
got you wouldn't engage it from your back. I was
(11:36):
thinking it was just one of those four wheels, like
when you rent a you all that you can flip
it down on the ground. The hand truck, Yeah, a
little hand truck, but you'd still have to get that
in somehow. So, I mean on one of these pictures
there there looks to be a big, you know, industrial
size hand truck as part of the theft. So it's like,
how does this happen? Now? Your Chicago guy do you have?
Is he still have a place in your heart for
(11:57):
all the Bulls teams or not? Well, you always say hey,
thanks for the job. You were interesting to watch. He
came into like another guy who did great work on
the court. But there's a there's separation of the man
versus the rebound. As a laker, a comembers the show
up that the practice once without shoes without he forgot
his shoes. So yeah, he's he's not He's not beloved
(12:17):
out here. He's a joke. He's actually a sad character
and we could become a character show himself. I mean
the whole North Korea thing that it's Robin off my
radar flounder pound g O. Bill, You and I might
try to reenact that later on to see how far
we could get. Excuse me, we gotta steal this. Oh oh,
the left there? Why why didn't harm it in Plasky
show up for the next show. They both had hernia surgeries. Yes,
(12:40):
coming up next, we turn our attention. You mentioned the Lakers. Uh,
the protest on Friday doesn't continue with more force following
the hiring of Frank Vogel Bill Plasky at Bill Plasky
on Twitter and find me over at Swollen and we
get into that next here on Fox Sports Radio. At
Farmer's Insurance, we know every windshield Lucian has a unique sound.
(13:01):
Beetle bird poop, drone seen it covered it, Dr Farmers,
We are farmers under written. My farmers took Finn Insurance
Exchange and affiliates parts unavailable every state. Greating's welcome back
in Fox Sports Sunday on this Mother's Day, Mike Carmen
alongside Bill Plasky, happy to have you along with us
for the ride. We got Chris, we got Vince, we
(13:22):
got Isaac lowin Krown helping us to put out superior
audio product for you this morning. We appreciate you hanging
out to from Braunch Services, whatever you're doing. Thanks for
making us a part of your day. Serious x M
Channel Lady three, the I Heart Radio app. You can
take us everywhere. You can even put on your headphones
and maybe skip a little of the sermon. Is what
(13:43):
I've been told people will do from time to time.
You have never been told that, Mike, You have never
been told You've been told that. I've certainly been told
that for this show, or for the for the harmony,
for for the no no, for Sunday's I've been doing
Sundays a while. Here is that folks want to chime
in and see what we're we're talking about on a
(14:04):
Sunday that we're entertaining. Literally God bless them. Yeah, So
thanks for being part of us and taking us all
over the place. And while you're in there, if you
are listening along, uh in you know, maybe the vestibule
or helping set up for for us. Oh, I know,
I know nobody is back there. With the sacred cup
and the sacred wine and the body and what I
(14:24):
literally no, I look, you never know. People are listening everywhere.
But the idea was also say let's say a little
prayer for us. We could use an extra one along
the way, much like the Los Angeles Lakers. Right about
as Frank Vogel expected to be named and introduced as
the new head coach of yor Los Angeles Lakers after
the long arduous circuitous mutant coaching search. I think that's
(14:49):
the best way to term it. We settle on Frank Vogel.
I mean, if nothing else, it's going to be a
different photo than we've had. You don't bring back all
the ambassadors necessary because he's not your guy. I man,
that was the the fear. But on Friday before this
went down, this news drops on Saturday. But going back
to Friday, I wanted to get Bill's response to well,
(15:12):
the protest and we'll explain the protest in a second.
My uncle had magic, my older brother had Kobe. I
have Lebron. He's brought me nothing. A change is to
happen right now. Get bus out here. They're too incompetent
for this city, and we don't want anymore. There you go,
I got this generational thing. We had some fun with
(15:33):
that because you you can do that for a lot
of franchises were legitimately it's decades of futility. Uh, the
fact that Lebron James gets called out for one year,
it was the best year, and there was a lot
to criticize, don't get me wrong. And we certainly did it.
You and I have done it here Jason and I
have done it on our show for the past year.
But uh, the protest, as it were, had few members
(15:56):
and each one of them seemed to have a different
talking point. Yeah, it was. It was. It was more
media there than it was protesters in protest. I think.
Actually we heard about it and I could have gone down,
and I wasn't gonna dig I wasn't gonna dignify it
with my with my presence. I wasn't gonna waste my time.
There was about thirty people, I guess, as it turns
out a lot of my high school kids cutting class
(16:16):
um and there was more media members and protesters. So, yes,
Laker fans are furious. I've talked to the Lakers a lot.
They their partners are furious. Their season ticket holders are
furious there, you know they're a lot of their associates
are furious. But this was not a way to show it.
This was not that this acted like if you believe this,
(16:37):
hardly anybody's man. Just a bunch of bunch of wacko kids.
One of the kids up there was had a sign
saying bring back all the Ball family. Yeah, that you
had a Ball family with the rumors of who was
being interviewed for the job. You had people with the
old two thousand one mug shot of Jason Kidd being
(17:00):
walked around. You had random memes of Lebron James that
had been clipped from the internet on boards. They did
a lot of work for those thirty people. I'll give
him credit to that. And and protesting your team your
ownership is okay. Just let's have a message, like a
unified message of what you're exactly protesting because a whiny
(17:23):
kid going, hey, i haven't had a title in six years,
I'm too far saw that and said, yeah, what we
We dodged a bullet here and there's nothing to see here.
And maybe people aren't as mad at us as we
think they are. Yes, they are mad at you. They're
just the people who are mad. The people with money,
the people who buy tickets, the people who have followed
you for thirty years and forty years, those are the
(17:44):
ones that are really mad. And they aren't coming down
the Staple Center and a Friday at noon to wave
a sign for a half hour in front every camera. Well,
and that's one of the things that I will never
know exactly how angry anybody is, because nobody's given up
their tickets. Nine percent sales sales, sales returns this year, right,
You're still going to see the show that is Lebron James,
(18:06):
regardless of what the rest of it entails. But I've
been told they have one they have business people think
in the community, they think they have one more year.
They if they don't do it this year, if they
fail to make the playoffs again, then it's gonna start
to hurt. Then maybe we start seeing some advertisers want
to renegotiate and change up their deals, which brings us
to Frank Vogel. Frank Vogel gets the job the last
(18:27):
couple of years of his coaching tenure. Uh, not exactly
what you'd have in mind there in the world of
Orlando fifty four and one ten. Your record as an
Orlando Magic coach fifth in the Southeast, miss playoffs obviously
both times, great success at Indiana, a couple of conference
(18:48):
finals appearances, one miss playoffs. So the last four years
as a coach miss playoffs, lost in first round, and
then back to back missing playoffs along the way. So
we've watched this dance around and part of it it
goes back and I'm gonna I'm gonna date myself and
show you exactly how old I am. See all Brady Bunch,
(19:09):
he's Johnny Bravo. You fit the suit. Nobody else wanted
to come here for three years and take on everything
else that was put in front of him in terms
of what is an untenable of from where I sit,
and I think from where you sit untenable situation. But
he said, okay, I'll coach. Yeah. It was the lead
of my column Today's ELI Times. Is no disrespect to
(19:32):
Frank Vogel, but what that's that's kind of the feeling
of laker Land I think today, the fact that he's
the last. He's lost more games than Luke Walton did
in his past two seasons. He not only has never
coached Lebron or one with Lebron. He can't beat Lebron.
He lost Lebron three straight times in the playoffs in Indiana. Um,
he's apparently a really good guy, a really good guy,
(19:54):
but players take advantage of him. And he's a really
great defensive mind, but he's not imagine of offensively. And
the hardest part and the worst part of all this
is that he probably isn't wasn't hired to be long
term because at the same time they hired him, they
announced Jason Kidd as his assistant coach, and everyone knows
Jason Kidd is the ultimate lobby Jason Kid was lobbying
(20:14):
for Luke Walton's job while Walton had so we talked
about quote unquote backstabbers and whispers. Jason Kidd's leader in
the clubhouse among all those. He'll come right at your face. Yes,
And and he has Lebron's respect because he and Lebron
were together on the Olympic team. So Frank Voge doesn't
have much of a chance, and it's not fair to him,
(20:35):
it wasn't fair to Laker fans. So basically, we're gonna
get Frank Vogan coat on one team in my opinion,
and Jason Kidd coaching Lebron and Jason Kidd and Lebron
are gonna win. And the most estimates are Frank think
Frank will go a year and a half halfway through
his contract before this thing doesn't. It's pretty impressive. I
wouldn't even have given it that. I don't know that
because it's either got to work right away you've got
(20:59):
the success or there. I mean, I don't think you
get because as you mentioned, you're you're looking at the
the leash getting shorter in terms of what people will
will tolerate in terms of laker Land and branding and
sales and everything that flow off of that. But one
of the things we heard of Toron Lou when we
were last on, he'd had a nice Laker's birthday cake
(21:20):
and all just seemed about cross and tees, dot and
eyes and then the devil in the details. They only
wanted him for three years and here's what you had
on the staff and Jason Kidd being one of those.
Some part of it was Kurt Rambis was going to
suddenly be on the staff again, and we know, we
don't think that. I think that part was true, but yeah,
the Jason Kidd part was true, and you're right, Frank
(21:42):
Vogel took what Toron Lou would not take. So Toron Lou,
looking around, said, and from everybody that we'd had on
to talk about this that for him it was more
about the years and being symbolically having beyond Lebron. Right,
you're not just year because you know Lebron and quote
(22:03):
what quote unquote coattail riding whatever people wanted to put
on it, that you would actually be able to build
your squad. The other part was more vexing to me
that you would be okay. I mean because he did
it to David Blatt, right, he ascended when Blatt got
fired in Cleveland. How it works so to have a
guy on your staff that is quite clearly the next
head coach in waiting. The fact that he seemingly was
(22:26):
okay from what we've been told with that just leaves
me shaking my head. But either way, Frank Vogel said,
you know what, forget it. I don't need five years.
I don't need to worry about what my staff comprises.
Force on me what what you will? I just want
to be the coach of the How is Lebron gonna
respect him, How the young kids who follow Lebron gonna
gonna follow him? And how does potential free agents looking
(22:50):
to come here. I think Kyrie Irving wants to play
for this this crew. Yeah, I know Kevin Durant does that.
I letter won't. How's that going to happen? And if
that doesn't happen, if they don't a big free agent
with top of this mic on on the show before,
if they don't get a free agent this summer, or
get a a story an impact player that can lead
him back into the championship contention with Lebron during the
(23:10):
final years of his career, might as well trade Lebron.
So this, this whole thing is setting up to be wacky,
and you wonder. I think, in my opinion, the Laker
front office is so disjointed that there's so many voices.
They couldn't decide who to hire. They had said, so
they hire two coaches. We'll get into that and continue
that thought coming up next. But first, a reminder Discover

You can sign up online at discovered dot com slash

Vogel hiring the disjointed front office, because I think we
put a big circle on that and that's really as
you from outside looking in, that's where the problem lies.
(23:54):
We'll get into that next, but first we talked to
Isaac Lowenkron, who's gonna update us on the entirety of
the sporting universe in the next ninety seconds. Good morning, Michael,
Good morning Bill, And that is indeed our top story.
Adrian war Zanowski reporting Saturday that the Lakers are hiring
Frank Vogel is their new head coach, to a three
year deal, with Jason Kidd as a prominent assistant coach.
(24:18):
In fact, here's how the Lakers explained that arrangement to Vogel,
I'll anyone move against your first just set up a
meeting the sum of the absolutely trust. I don't think
your safety and that that meeting, you'll be assassinate and
(24:39):
always fascinating to go behind the game. That's audio you're
only gonna hear here on Fox Sports Radio. In the
Stanley Cup Playoffs Saturday night, the San Jose Sharks doubled
up the St. Louis Blues six to three in Game
one of the Western Conference Finals. And in Major League
Baseball on Saturday night, Gerardo Para had a grand Slam
home run on the top of the eighth to lift
(25:00):
the Washington Nationals past the Dodgers five to two. Back
to Michael Harmon and Bill Plashki in ten seconds, But first,
a word from Farmers that Farmers Insurance. We know a

Thank you, Isaac. So as we're talking build Fox Sports Sunday,
Bill Plaski alongside me, Mike Carmen, thanks for hanging out
with us this morning at Bill Plaski is where you
can find him on Twitter as well as his late
A link to his latest column. You gotta read it.
Uh just the headline. Uh the lead get you and
(25:44):
sucks you in right away? Lakers higher who really? What
are they kidding? Was your your sub well? I want
to ask you about that column? So what happened was
yesterday and early in the morning I turned in a
story on Heimie Harin, Dodgers Spanish language broadcaster who was
gonna cut back on all his broadcasting work this season
to spend time with his wife, Blanca, and she died
(26:05):
of a heart attack in spring training. So now he's
back on the road and his his difficulty dealing with
the loss of a loved one. And it was a
mother's day kind of a uh, you know, a tribute
to a great woman. So I finished his column. I'm
all sentimental and emotional feeling, and then the office calls,
Frank Vogel just got hired. I got it right, and
I'm I'm thinking the Lakers did this to their fans again,
and I'm furious, and I wrote this column. But I'm
(26:27):
wondering now, having looking at the column, that maybe I was.
There was times in this business you think, because I've
been so tough on the Lakers, and you know this,
I've been killing him for a month. Was I too
tough on Frank Vogel? Was Is this his fault? I
pretty much, you know, laid it out how he's not
really qualified to be the coach. But is it his
fault and he's an untendable position, and maybe the theme
(26:49):
should have been that, you know what, this guy's got
a really tough job. Let's all feel sorry for this guy.
I always a coaching Lakers, but he's got Jason Kidd
and Lebron James on his heels. How's he going to survive? Now?
I'm feeling sorry for him one bit. I think your
column was fair. You went through his basketball resume and
what he is and isn't as a head coach, and
(27:11):
that that let the chips fall where they may. I mean,
he came in knowing what this organization has been. Unless
he's put blinders on, he's watched the circus with the
rest of us. Right, you're you're paying attention to the NBA.
You can't tell me, Hey, I'm just watching film of
the NBA playoffs. No, you're watching this. This has been
the greatest show on earth? Are you kidding me? Wringling
(27:32):
Brothers and Barnam and Bailey's Circus wishes they could do
this this bit and take it on the road. That's
how big of a clown show it's been in terms
of the coaching higher the front office administration, and how
that the last regular season was handled. So Frank Vogel
doesn't walk in like a babe in the woods. You're
completely fair in your analysis. Yeah, I mean, he just
thinks at leak Commas of the only times do I
(27:53):
need to give him a chance? And I'm gonna get
a chance, and I will at the press conference. I
will definitely do that. I will definitely say, Okay, this
guy's guy. But you're writing it now. Yeah, we do
the radio show now. Yeah, I mean I can't say,
like when we came off of NFL the NFL draft, right,
and it's a big divide in our world. Hey we
(28:13):
have to wait three or four years. No, I need
to see, you know, I needed an analysis of coming
from into the season team address their needs. Did they
get that done? Likewise, here, Frank Vogel may go on.
They they may hoist the O'Brien and you've got to
go figure out your parade route. But until that happens,
(28:35):
it's all questions. You know. It's funny because I write
these columns and I get a ton of readership and
a kind of comments. At the end of the day,
sometimes I think, well, I hope I didn't I feel
bad if I hurt someone's if I didn't give someone
a chance, if I wasn't fair, you know what I mean.
But you're also the type to come back and say,
you know what I was wrong. Yeah, I would definitely
say right if Frank Vogel comes in and he's got
great command of this and look and we all recognize
(28:56):
and we stipulate to the fact that it's not all him. Right,
we could question the choices of agreeing to the three
years and to have these guys on staff, right, to
have Jason Kidds sitting there, well, maybe they just forced
it and said how much do you want to get
back in the NBA. But the biggest thing is we
all know the real issues in Laker Land are with
your front office and the fact that nobody trusts Rob Polinka.
(29:20):
People around the league don't want to deal with Rob Polinka.
So there's the other agents don't want to deal with
Rob Polinka. So there's still the question of what does
this team really become? All right now? Also, I got
an email from someone who thought I was unfair and
I don't think this is true. But I want to
run this past few where I I wrote here that
uh about Jason Kidd. Some is that, uh would would
(29:43):
Jason Kidd? Some folks are already betting Kid will replace
Vogal long before the end of the third year of
his contract, and that presents another problem. Would Bus really
give the keys to her franchise to a guy who's
pleading guilty to a domestic abuse charge? Is that I
think it's fair to bring that up. You gotta bring
that up. It's part of his history, right, and five
years ago it probably doesn't show up because it's it's
a different time. That's what I said. Well, the books
(30:06):
and and and that's hired and the handual problem with it,
But well, every franchise is different. Everybody's gonna look at
it differently. And the objective I think it's a big
deal you or not, I think it's still is part
of it. And obviously you have to weigh a public
consideration and be you know, is he a different guy? Right?
(30:27):
Was it a mistake? Was it a you know, a
one time thing? Was there a pattern? I mean, there's
a lot that goes into it. Because that goes back
to two thousand one. That's a lifetime ago. That is
that too long ago for me to bring that up? No,
I think it's fair to bring up because it is
part of the dossier, and in twenty nineteen, the public
discussion of these topics is in a much better place.
(30:49):
Is that we actually discuss these topics right as opposed
to next next job? All right, if you can do
the job whatever, and that goes for professional sports and
whatever job you do and wherever you go to in
your own personal lives. Listening out there is you know,
those things are handled at companies differently than they would
have been years ago. Not it's not just sports because
(31:11):
it's in the public eye. Do you think because Genie
Buss is a woman that it would be more heinous
to hire Jason Kids a coach because of the charges
that we think it's just it's it's it's non generous specific.
I don't think it's gender specific. I think it you know,
you're just like you should be treated different differently as
the owner. Right. You can't get when you're have incompetence,
(31:33):
You can't go with kid gloves, right, you can't just say, well,
Genie Buss a woman. I mean that's that's that's that's
unfair and that's wrong on a million levels. Likewise, you know,
for this thing. I think it's it has to be
handled the same way, through the same practical application of
your standards. And you know, if if there is something
in the discussion with the other shareholders and you decide
(31:55):
that he can't be promoted, Jason kids probably not taking
that job. He's because he would have been told flat
out too right, because like he lobbied for it in
the press. He's not coming in unless there's a possible
do it time. So I can give you some quick
Q and A on Jason. We can do some quick
and all right. Frank Vogel was involved in the basketball program.
(32:17):
Where'sus Kentucky? What did he do for the Wildcats? The
vaulted Wildcats? What was he a Kentucky manager? Good job
bingo bing number two? He shares a southern another Southern
California Great Southern California coach named Chuck Knox. He shares
a pit of his past with Chuck Knox former culture
the l A rams what is it this is? You're
(32:39):
gonna get this one? They both went to junior of
college in in in in Pennsylvania. I don't I don't
know my Frank Vogel trivia quite so well. No, you
didn't go so far. You went for what he appeared.
It's a ten year old on late night with David
Letterman doing stupid human tricks. We was all seen the video.
What was he doing? Oh, he was spending a basketball
in his mouth or something when he he was brushing
his teeth with the basketball spinning at the end of
(33:01):
the toothbrush. Well, there you go. I like that. Who's
who's the all time leader in coaching? Wins it for
the Indiana Pacers. There you go, bing go, Yes, his degree,
isn't he Finally he did get a degree Kentucky. Oh,
I read. I read a little of his city. He's
a biology he's alogy because because you shook my head
(33:25):
because it really doesn't quite Yeah, I know. I'm a
Frank Vogel insider. Now you can go with me for
actual and I would prefer he had a degree in chemistry.
I like that done, nicely done. We're coming alive from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy to say
or more on car insurance with Geico, So go to
(33:46):
Geico dot com. Are called eight nine four seven auto
the only hard park. Figuring out which way is easier?
Coming up next, We've got a lot of sports stories
that may have fallen off the radar. I mean we
had big, we had the Warriors and and the run
pockets and while we still have more CPE ready to
talk about, but it's time to fill in the blanks.
Let's get after it on Fox Sports Radio. At Farmer's Insurance,
(34:09):
we know the sound of a perfect hot air balloon
landing and a less than perfect one. We've seen it covered.
Dr Farmers were farmers under written? My farmers took fire
insurance exchange that affiliates products unavailable every state. Welcome back
in Fox Sports Radio. This is Fox Sports Sunday, Mike
Carmen alongside Bill Plasky. Thank you for hanging with us
(34:30):
and our crew a little bit here on a Mother's
day as you get things set if you haven't figured
it out yet at Swallonome at Bill Plasky, we've got
some ideas of how you can make mother's day memorable.
We'll give you some more at the top of the hour,
coming up about ten minutes. I think we're both gonna
effort to uh just our mother to our moms and
get them involved in the show and they can give
(34:50):
thee their their tales of Little Billy and Little Mikey
from all those years ago. But now it's time to
play a game. Vincent, Bill go and they square off
as we try to fill in the blanks. Sooth said,
who did it to know? Mike Harmon is asking important
questions from this week's sports headlines. Slay along. It's time
(35:14):
to fill in the black all right, first one, since
we're talking coaching hires, I'm ready for this one, Bill
plash Key and and and me as we get this going, ready,
the Lakers are gonna hire Frank Vogel. Somewhere out there,
there's still a coach for those Cleveland Cavaliers. They're interviewing people.
(35:35):
Can you name anybody they've interviewed? J alright, you got.
I have no idea. I know they interviewed four people
in Denver, but I have no idea who they are.
I knew you'd ask this du research for this game. Now, Mike,
you go, there you go, Jordi Fernandez, West Unsell Jr.
David Vanterpool, Steve Hetzel of any of them? And they
(35:58):
have received permission to receivee to interview another Blazer's assistant,
Nate Tibots. But they haven't been able to do that yet.
And then they interviewed Spurs assistant uh Toria Messina the
last couple of days. So that's good. Alright, let's play
a game of baseball? Can you name these squads? A
game to light? Madison Bumgarner has eight teams on his
(36:19):
no trade clause? Did you name them? Dodgers, Yankees? Yankees
are one? I believe the Phillies are another. Yes. I
think the Cubs were one. Yes, the Cardinals were one.
Cardinals are one. Yes, there's four, the Red Sox yes,
(36:41):
and I think that's where I lose out. The Astros yes,
and I think that's where I lose out. On the list,
we got two more. That's the most random list of
the Graves and the Brewers. For the other teams. Of
those eighteen, that's just so random, right, all contenders? Right?
So yes, But he didn't say no to the not
teams he wants to avoid, but contenders. Just very interesting
(37:04):
how that flows through, all right. The most recent Alex
Rodriguez YouTube blog talked about going to the met How
did he describe himself? Oh, I saw his photos, saw
the photos too, Like the ice cream man he was
wearing all white. I believe magical, maybe mystical. Yeah. He
(37:27):
he went through the process saying he had to lose
weight so he wouldn't look fat and he would look
good in his met Galla photos. He's got six and
a half pounds weight doing some sweating and stair running
and everything else. Giants picture. Derrek Holland criticized the front
office so he blank for going on the d L
(37:52):
when he wasn't hurt. That's right, he said he faked
an injury because they quote have no idea what they're
doing in the front off. Well, you know where this
comes from, right far. Hansat is their new general manager.
They did it with the Dodgers all the time. We'll
see there you go. Now you're you're you're letting out
the skeletons in the proverbial closet as you are. Uh.
(38:13):
You know what. There's a rumor that an NFL star
is gonna appear on tonight's Game of Thrones. I'll leave
that and you know, you guys can try to seek
him out if he does in fact turn up in
the episode. Who was the last NFL player to show
up on Game of Thrones? Mountain, I have no I
know Ed Sharon was in Game of Thrones, but ed
Sharon could not YEA for this thing. I can't think
(38:38):
of who it is. The last one to appear was
Joey Bosa Well in the Battle of Winterfell. That makes sense.
How about that at one NBA star, well maybe not
a star any longer. Talking about maybe returning for one
last hurrah? It why ship was? It's um Stepan Marbury?
(39:05):
Who even better? I like that maybe he can get
into the Big Three. Tony Parker say he may try
to return for one last hurrah. Averaged eighteen minutes a
game for the Charlotte Hornets. I gotta say, he's not
a former store. He's still playing there. But he's not
a star. But he's not but he was still That's
what I said. He's kind of plaining staying on for yeah. Yeah, see.
(39:26):
I saw the thing about Carmelo his wife saying that
he's been working out. So that's why I want with that. Well,
we'd love to see Carmelo back on. I mean that
would have been great because people still tried to pin
the Rockets loss on him. No way, I want Carmelo
out with the Lakers, No way, no way. Oh bring
him in. That'd be fantastic, all right. Last one, the
Minnesota Vikings drafted IRV Smith out of Alabama. But there
(39:53):
might be a change in the guard. He might have
to become the new tight end because Kyle Rudolph broke
off negotia ations on a new deal. How much is
he asking for. I'm gonna go with thirty seven million. Yeah,
he's looking for about forty million and about eight per split.
(40:16):
The difference prices right rules. You know when we should
start playing some of those prices right games. We can
build recreations of them here in the studio. It's amazingly
the yodler and everything amazing. NFL players ask for more money.
They have such little leverage. No, and that's it. The
next cb A we'll see how much they'll put their
you know, money where their mouth is, as it were.
He's Bill Plasky on My Carmen. This is Fox Sports
(40:38):

and journalists across this great land. And he comes in
every Sunday and slums it with me. You know, it's
Mother's Day, Happy Mothers Day and everyone out there big
day to day. You mentioned around the Horn. My mom
has been on around the Horn. She had several times.
Did she win appeared, No, she just appeared and waved
(41:20):
at the end. But my favorite time was last year.
She went to the Duke Louisville game with my older
brother who took her there, you know, because she stole
a Louiver Kentucky h I was born and raised. She
went to the game and my bro you know that
that that was that great game or Duke came back
from being down thirty points one. So they they had
(41:41):
my brother took a picture of her standing in front
of the court. She's eighty eight years old, so that
they ran that picture on a round the hornet day
is saying, our investigative reporter was all the scene around
the horn, was all the scene at the game of
the year. There there she was doing her work. She
had the players are running around behind her. So, yes,
that's fantastic. She's she's spending Mother's Day in a perfect
(42:04):
place for aak freak Kentucky mom. She's going to the
race track. Oh, I love that. I think I think
my folks might actually do that. My brothers are down
in Clearwater, Florida with them listening. Hi, family, Good to
have you with us on this fest. Family. Yeah, a
lot locked and loaded as they are as we come
to you live from the Getico Fox Sports Radio Studios.
(42:25):
Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on

Bill obviously, you know we keep our eyes on on
the road here in southern California. Lots of crazy things.
But as I exited, the little man was sitting there
playing on his phone at the Whole Foods ready for
the can you know cavalcade of stars and and cars
(42:47):
to come through to buy flowers and pick up those
last minute sundry items. Yes, I think a lot of
people um buy things on the way to see their mother.
Everyone talks about how love and love and Mother's Day
with a big day is and everything. Yet they wait
till the last minute to do anything because they know
that's the blessing of moms. They know their mom will understand.
(43:07):
Mom knows life gets busy. Mom, get mom's, get at mom's.
So I did the good thing of one part is
I got the Amazon gift so we'll have the ability
to communicate and um, you know, do the video chat
later on on what I didn't do. And and this
is the one. My mom right now is shaking her
fist at me. The card is sitting in my bag
(43:29):
with a stamp on it. Yeah, I didn't get the card.
Shore with the card? Will I want to see it?
I want to see the card. You know what I did?
The thing that you know, I brought my mom flowers,
sent her a big thing of flowers. But I always wondered,
you ever wanted this? When you send flowers? Are you
getting your money's worth? So my mom answers, the answers
exactly no. But I always said, we're trying to set
(43:51):
her flowers. She'll send me pictures of the flowers and
we'll discuss. Okay, Bill, Billy, how much one did you
spend for this is this? Did you get your money's worth?
Is this worth it? And there never were under in
our gambling parlance that we've become so proud of here. Yeah,
it's you know, I'll spend a hundred fifty bucks on
flowers and they're never they're never, They're always about what
(44:14):
are you doing? I know, but just sending that but
concerned partlay that in the big winnings. But your side
is well placed because it's never where the flowers. They
always rip you off. They take advantage of your sentimentality.
What do you want on the cards? Or your such
a good son here? Let us let us steal your
(44:35):
money from you? No, no, no, But it's a free
market economy. So in the end, but I'm saying, demand
for flowers on this day are so great, and I
can triple my price, why would I not triple my price?
But all year round with flowers, if you're not picking
him up by your you know, picking up yourself, they
can send him anything that's right, and nobody's gonna know
what that's just it. No, that don't send flowers anymore.
(45:00):
We're gonna send vouchers going forward. Look one of the stories,
you know, as we go through memories of mom, you know,
and we think about that, the grandma's then the uncle's everybody. No,
don't send flops, send something else. Not a sponsor, right, Vince,
Not today now, h just go on through the process
of all the people that that take on the mom
(45:23):
and dad roles in our lives. I mean, it takes
the village. But you know, having a I called my
mom at at our last commercial my brother and said, hey,
they're listening. And because having a good listen and the
memories that you were bringing up with your mom and
you know, us slepping the practices and all of those things.
I vividly remember the two things my mom always did
(45:44):
going to the We had one car, so going to
the grocery store had the little cart that she'd load
up and the thing would probably weigh like two hundred pounds.
It was probably probably a better used pound for pound
than that thing. Dennis Rodman used to jack that four
a pound geo allegedly, I have to say allegedly, right,
so he did it. The other though, was always going
(46:08):
to the library. We always had our wagon. We always
had our wagons and we'd go and we just take
out a ton of books. And we'd read them and
we'd go back the next week. He could bring them
all so just slepping back and forth with your old
radio flyer wagon. That thing got a lot of weary
miles on it. Mike, you have me almost crying here
because that's a great memory. We're up with me and
(46:30):
my mom would take us to the library. She wanted
us to read, just like. That's why he was so smart,
because as you read, she wanted us to read. She
let us take out as many books as we wanted.
I would get ten sports books a week. You're right,
and you carry him in either wagon we we we
put in the back of road Chevrolet or old old
Pinto and drive and drive it home, and you'd read
him and lose them and find him again, and then
(46:51):
bring them all back the next we can do it
all over again. That's exactly that's said, that radio flyer
man that got a lot of what your first but
your Harmon you did at Harmon did a great job
with your son. You should know that. Well, thanks, Bell,
We'll we'll make sure to cut and print that one
for the next time I screw something up royally in
our lives. We've got the rest of our team here,
and we've got Isaac, We've got Chris, We've got Vince,
(47:14):
and you know, we're we're celebrating mom figures in our lives,
whomever they may be. So thank you for all the
many many nights staying up worrying that we were gonna
be okay, for making sure the tuition got to where
it needed to be on time so we can finish
those studies, and uh, all all of the the ins
(47:34):
and outs and the day to days. I mean, there's
books to be written about everybody's mom's for sure, but well,
you know, the fact that we both have the work
ethic to be in here on a Sunday morning on
Mother's Day is a tribute to our moms. Crawling in
here about five am. I'm certain it's a tribute to
our moms. I was on my fourth cup of coffee
when you walk, it is to my mom. I'm sure
(47:56):
you were here, probably not even the hour before I
got here. And yeah, it's a tribute to our mom.
Nobody it's you know, I know that the dads have traditionally,
at least in the past, I've had the jobs, and
I've had and I have had to have been that
sort of figure. That's all changing now, of course, all
for the better. But it's the moms that teach us
to work. They really are well made sure we got
(48:17):
out of the house right, hey, I mean for fortunately
for us, the school was only about a half a
block away, so you know, you can watch TV all day,
get outside, hey man, the Bozos Show was on in
the morning, and at seven fifteen every Tuesday I got
a part of an episode of the Transformers, and every
Thursday I got part of a Batman so and then
(48:40):
I got Bozo buckets mixing there in after that. Always
fair game. Yeah, we know my mom actually she worked
out of the house, so we would get up in
the morning and drive her. You know, we don't have
to drop We drive her to work and take the
car for the day. So she taught us might be
work ethic by working there. You got the hustle is
real reminder. We're brought to you by Discovered Just Cover

(49:24):
All that's missing is some background music and some reading material.
Mike and Bill get you ready for the day and
this edition of the Sunday paper. All right, guys, we're
going to the classified section, specifically the help wanted, where
(49:44):
Toronto has acquired Edwin Jackson from Oakland for cash. This
happened yesterday and interesting fact, Edwin Jackson will be making
his debut for the Blue Jays. It'll be his four
team in Major League Baseball, almost getting close to half
the league he's played with, and he breaks the right
(50:08):
previous record of thirteen. Now, Billy, you brought up during
the break he debuted with the Dodgers. You've been covering
him for a long time. What do we thought? What
are our thoughts on this? You know, how do you
get that longevity to be able to move from team
to team and just keep grinding? I have at first, first, Blush,
I have no idea, no idea. He's a hundred and
four and hundred twenty three with the four point six
(50:30):
oh e r A in three games. But then you
think about it, what does he do the team's need
that nobody does anymore. He eats in eats, He'll stay
out there, he'll save your bullpen, He'll take the heat,
he'll get beat up and not come out. There's a
certain magic in that. And I covered Guess the cover
day with Jackson's first season with the Dodgers and two
(50:51):
thousand and three, I also covered the other player who
he passed up, Mike Morgan, was played for relief thirteen teams,
and Morgan was the same kind of player. He go
out there and take the ball every fifth day and
pitch forever. Well, and that's the big thing in today's
day and age. Right, we talked about bullpen specialties, but
we also talked about how many pitchers can't be relied
(51:11):
upon every fifth day. I mean, the we now call
it the injured list because they decided that it was
insensitive to use the term disabled list in Major League Baseball. Yeah,
are you serious? A sensitivity issue? That's why they change it.
They change just to make it a shorter list and
change the name. Really, that was part of the reason.
The other part was that they didn't feel like disabled.
(51:33):
Really captured what plair was like actually dealing with, because
it was like an injury, not a disability or interested
and with a short term disability. If you can't do
your job right, we do that. We do that and
every other walk of life. Wise, suddenly major League baseball,
it's a tangent. I'm just we'll stop down. But for
(51:55):
for Edwin Jackson, he's been able to take the ball
every fifth day, give you five six innings. And as
you mentioned that, the numbers aren't spectacular. But in this
day and age, where in a lot of ballparks, balls
flying out right, we're talking about home runs at record
paces and everything else, you're gonna have ample opportunity to
make up. He got a lot of frames to get
your offense rolling. Again, I I give him all the
(52:17):
credit in the world. Keep going. You're motivated to stay
in shape. I mean, how many guys have the jersey
ripped off the back after the second or third failure
and they give up the fact that he keeps going
is a whole other thing but his But but guess
how old he is? This is speak to his mediocrity.
Guess how old he is? He's played for fourteen teams. Yes,
how old he is, well, he came up in what
two thousand three, he's I'll tell you he's still just
(52:39):
thirty five, thirty five, so that's yes, he's been quite around.
He won't turn thirty six still September. That's impressive. And
how do the Triple A prospects for the Blue Jay's field?
He was brought up because he was you know, he
signed with the team. He's gonna be because the kids
(52:59):
aren't for me. Well, but you lose your job, got
on his fourteenth team. Well, and if you're a big
time prospect, they're not going to promote you. Right. There
was a lot of handwringing as to what to do
with lad Jr. Right as to whether you start that clock,
you know, in terms of salaries and everything else. That
that's the other real, real reality that teams have to face. Right.
(53:21):
We had it with Fernando Tatis Jr. Down in San
Diego where they had the veteran players take the owner
out to dinner to say, look, we gotta do this.
There's a million reasons why you need to do this
and call him up now. And we've seen guys have
been overmatched, and that's part of the growing pains. But
when you're talking about the difference of cash considerations, you
(53:43):
can bring in a veteran and pay him next to
nothing to go steal some innings when you're already a
bad baseball team. And this is one was one of
the problems with baseballs. It tries to create stars, and
it needs to create stars. Lad Junior is the biggest
star to hit the big leagues this year. You're always
Batti like or something eight six. He's actually well, he's
actually better off than I thought he was. He's been
(54:03):
terrible and because his baseball is hard, it's a hard
sport and about three out of ten you're in the
Hall of Fame and we don't talk about it. So
that he's been a complete bus so far. And that's
where you know in football or basketball, a lot of
times those stars can hit right away and become big stars.
And Lad Junior was already kind of disappeared. So we'll
we'll see what Jackson is not and what Jackson has not.
(54:25):
It just keeps going. It is it's more of a
sport for the Edward Jackson is the world that it
is would have Lad Juniors really, man, it's it's hard
to break in and find your legs. And look how
many teams abandoned guys after that first games made certainly
Vlad Junior, they're not going to do that. And eventually
we all expect him to find his stride and and
and start hitting like his old man did. But certainly
(54:48):
for the moment, the story that was a great, great
story for two and a half days at the call
up has faded and it's in the in the middle
of the near the classifieds, in the middle of these
fish rap At this point, Baseball get your break by
the NBA to Game seven today, to Game sevens. We'll
talk about that coming up. Nets. He's Bill Plasky on
(55:09):
Mike Carmen here from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios.
Hang tight, it's the rise of yokich. At Farmers Insurance,
we know every windshield collision has a unique sound. Beetle
bird boop, drone seen it covered it. Dr Farmers were
farmers under written. My farmers took fire Insurance Exchange and
(55:29):
affiliates proucts unavailable every state. Welcome back in Fox Sports Radio.
This is Fox Sports Sunday. Mic Armen alongside Bill Plashky,
we're watching live racing, live soccer. We just had an accident,
so we had glass everywhere. Plasky. I mean, it is
a big, big Sunday in the sporting universe that starts
early on this Mother's Day, a couple of Games seven's
(55:50):
coming up later on today. We know all about the
Sixers and their stars. We know all about Kauai Leonard
and what he may or may not do. Maybe love
Dannian Lillard. But the guy making his name in these
NBA playoffs, Nicola Yokich, the big man may not look
like he's the most staff letic guy running around, but
(56:12):
you know what he gave him sixty five minutes strong.
We talked about it last Sunday, after that Friday night performance,
came back and gave him another big effort. The guy indefatigable.
How about that go for those big words Sundays. So
now we've got yo Kich in a Game seven, and
this is a chance to really break out to that
next level. Yeah, I mean, I thought, I think he's
(56:33):
already broken on. He's been the most valuable player in
these playoffs to his team. I don't even more so
than Durant, even more so than Dame Damian Lillard. Uh Yoki.
I think he's averaging what and eight against the against
the Blazers, playing the most minutes anybody's ever played in
the m NBA playoff game in like fifty years. And
he's like, he's like a regular dude. I mean, he's
(56:56):
like self deprecating, he's funny during the postgame interviews, he
jokes around, and he's His past is incredible because he
really is this big dough boy from service from Serbia.
When he was a kid, one of the sports he
he did was harness racing. Sweet you know he wants
growing up, he drank three leaders of coke a day
(57:17):
a day. His last coke was on the flight to
Denver after they drafted him in the second round. I
think that's one of the things that you circle in
all this stuff, right, that he was a second round pick,
because most guys don't make teams being drafted in the
second week. When he was seventeen, he couldn't do a
push up. When he got to Denver, he couldn't do
(57:37):
a plank. Even I can do both of those. He
and he would have signed, he would have stayed in Europe.
Actually he would he was signed with Denver, but he
had his big showcase game for the Barcelona team, was
gonna sound a long term deal. He went four and
three and night in that game, four parts, three rebounds,
terrible game, Barcelona and signing ended up over here. And
he's become I mean, he's become. You're right, he's he's resilient,
(58:01):
he's indomitable. Big words Sunday and he and Jamal Murray
they're the best combination. Well, they're the first combination to go.
I believe what both thirty and ten thirty thirty points
in ten assist and back and back games since Magic
and Kareem back in nineteen in their early eighties. You know,
speaking of Magic, something that Jason Smith and I have
(58:22):
done on our show for a long time, regardless of
what you may have heard in media overall, um talking
about you Bill Simmons trying to steal this bit. The
Magic Johnson Twitter game has long been a staple of
the Jason Smith Show with Mike arman Uh and Magic.
Now that he's untethered and he can tweet all he wants.
Back on May five, Nicoli Yokich has really caught my
(58:43):
eye with his two triple doubles in this series against
Portland's exclamation point. He is, I mean, he's he again
with with Jamal Murray. I don't think they'll challenge Golden State,
but they'll, but they'll they'll get a game or two
and they've really you know, he's really becoming n the
NBA with all the Russell Westbrook business going out there,
with with the Durant business being tough on the media. Um,
(59:06):
I think the public and the media, it's you know,
in in espressing the players of the public really is
desperate for a human being and this guy is a
human being. Now. Well, one of the things I've liked,
I mean, obviously we've seen the big minutes played and
the fact that he lumbers up and down the court,
and you're amazed once you get to those forties fifty
(59:26):
minute games that that he's still going. Uh. He's got
some chippiness and attitude to him at times in this series.
He's taken a couple of cheap shots and been an
instigator as well, So you know, there's there's that that
helps to push your stardom as well, because now you're
guaranteeding yourself some extra highlight, real minutes. But you remember
the swinging elbow on and his canner in the in
(59:49):
the lane I had of a freeholder, yes, yes, so
that the swinging elbow there and that nothing came of that.
And then you have the closed line of Damian Lillard
W W E style. You had the little dust up
when he went up for a shot up twenty still
in the game with five minutes remaining, and he got
hit and he took exception to getting hit, which was
(01:00:11):
really showing that you've now embraced your stardom and just
you don't don't forget the Blazers have been without Yosef
nur Kitchen. That's been huge and that's what that's gonna
be a difference in the series. I mean, I think
Denver wins the game today, number one, because seventy of
the teams win Game seven in the NBA in at
home at home. So uh, that's where they fight for
(01:00:32):
all season long. As his home court advantaged. They have
played the season for this game to get it in
Denver in the altitude I think they'd be, but I
think it's better. I mean, do you think it's better
for basketball if Yokich advances or if Dame advances. Who
do you think it is better? I mean, Dame is more,
is more dramatic, He's has the you know, there are
two of the only five series ending buzzer beating shots
(01:00:54):
in basketball history. But I think people would rather see
you in Jamal Murray. That's just it because it's different, right,
I mean Murray the good one a but for Yokis
because he's different. Right, We've got guards that can play,
We've got guards that can score. That's a good point.
Let's go, let's get a guy who can do a
little bit of everything from the big man, because we
don't have a lot of big men that you can
(01:01:16):
celebrate up and down the court anymore. They're there are
few and far between. So if that plus you, as
you mentioned the self deprecating humor, I mean, I like
the fact that Nurkie wanted to get back on the court.
The Denver announcers taking a shot saying he needed to
be punched or whatever was was you know, out of
left field and kind of ridiculous. But when when you
(01:01:37):
look at it, you know, it's been a series that's
really been good. Basketball got chippy in a number of parts,
but overall, you know, it was by far the second series.
If you were going to rank all four of them,
then it's the last. But you've got a star that's
emerging fourth year in the league, and you see the
average is going up, and certainly here in prime time
(01:01:58):
came up huge. Didn't see a lot of Denver on
the national TV cycle in the past, even under achievers
forever in that in that for that, for that team,
and uh, to have them do this now and again again.
Portland's has been more dramatic, but Dever has been more human,
you know. And the way they played, the way they
played defense, the way they get after it, the way again,
(01:02:19):
the way for them to win in Portland on that
for overtime game, I mean to lose that for overtime
game and then to come back and win the next
day the next game there, it was unbelievable to me. Well,
that four overtime game. That was fun because that went
straight through Jason Smith and I show. We got to
weave in some other talk, but that game was still
(01:02:39):
live when Jonas Knocks came on air at eleven PM
Pacific time. Not often other than Hawaii football does Jonas
get the gift of live sporting events on a Friday
night or Saturday night at that time. And then you
have the Nuggets are so resilient combat. That's why they're
gonna win today. The Nuggets today given five and a
half over under to twelve and a half. As we
(01:03:02):
get ready for that game we mentioned earlier. Also, obviously
you have the Sixers and the Toronto Raptors. You go
as embiid goes. We'll talk about him a little later
on in the show and what you expect, uh, and
what to expect from that one. But coming up next
we circle back into the wonderful world of Los Angeles
(01:03:22):
because Lebron James hasn't said a lot about a lot
since he left, but he made a big statement on
Friday night as we watched the Warriors advance over the Rockets.
What did he say? What was the message? We talked
about that next year on Fox Sports Radio. But first
we step over to Isaac Lowancron and we find out
what's trending in the sporting universe Michael and Bill. On Saturday,
(01:03:44):
Adrian war Janowski made a big announcement about the Lakers
prolonged head coaching search. My fellow Americans, our long national
nightmare sorry, hit the word it out. He actually tweeted
that the Lakers are hiring Frank Vogel as their new
head coach to a three year deal, with Jason Kidd
(01:04:06):
as a prominent assistant coach. Now, Michael, you're talking about
how you and Jason monitor Magic Johnson's tweets during the week.
It turns out that a short time after ward Janowski's announcement, Magic,
the former Lakers president, tweeted so everyone eagerly anticipating his reaction,
and Magic tweeted, quote, wow, I just watched one of
(01:04:28):
the best fights of the year. Julian Williams beat Jared
Heard to become the new ib F w B A
junior middleweight world champion. Unquote yeah, a couple of boxing
tweets and nothing more from Magic just yes, And as
you can imagine, the comments section reflected that this from
eleven Lakers, very insightful info, Magic, Thanks this from at
(01:04:53):
Bartman fifty one. Neither fighter quit like you did. Wow yikes.
In the Stanley Cup Playoffs Saturday night, the San Jose
Sharks defeated the St. Louis Blues six to three in
Game one of the Western Conference Finals. Baseball Saturday at
Gerardo Para a Grand Slam home run on the top
of the eighth giving the Washington Nationals of five to
(01:05:15):
victory over the Dodgers. Back to Michael Harmon and Bill
Plashky and ten but first award from Farmers that Farmers Insurance.
We know a roof can withstand a lot one exception
being an airborne car. I've seen it covered it. Dr Farmers,
we are Farmers underwritten my Farmers Truck Fire Insurance exchange
that affiliates products unavailable in every state. By the way,
(01:05:36):
Michael and Bill. One final Mother's Day note. A short
time ago, Bill's l a Times colleague Sam Farmer tweeted
the following quote to all you Twitter trolls out there,
Happy Landlord's Day unquote. Very cleverly done by Sam Farmer.
Back to you, that's kind of a I love Sam Farmer,
(01:05:59):
so that's a great So there you go. Always gotta
turn it on its head a little bit, so that's good.
Get to get the conversation started. Thanks Hilo, Fox Sports
Sunday Mike Armen alongside Bill Plashky. You can find Bill
on Twitter at Bill Plashky. Find me over at Swollen Dome.
Read Bill on the l A Times website la Times
dot Com. Subscribe good journalism, lots of columns, Bill burning
(01:06:22):
the Midnight Oil, going from one column straight into the
Frank Vogel hiring column yesterday. You find me seven to
eleven here Pacific, each and every night Jason Smith and
I chopping up the sporting universe and reacting live to
the games in progress. But one of the games that
we did get to do on Friday night, the Warriors
take down the Rockets, shorthanded Warriors, as it were, no
(01:06:45):
Boogie Cousins, no Kevin Durant one eighteen one thirteen your
final and there's lots of implications for the Houston Rockets
coming out of that, but certainly for the Warriors the
old reliables shown through Steph Curry after a rough first half,
I think would be the kindest way to put it,
thirty three second half points in clean twenty three in
the final frame, andre Iguodala had five three pointers and
(01:07:08):
Clay Thompson carried the offense early on as Steph Curry
sat down with foul trouble, but in the waning minutes
not enough for the planet Houston. Lots of things to
look at and break down and shake and bake that game.
But Lebron James post game went to the heart of
it quote never capital and e v er underestimate the
(01:07:30):
heart of a champion. An old rudy tom Jonovic line
brought right back and thrown at the Rockets in praise
of what the Warriors were able to accomplish. Is clearly
board throwing shade at the Rockets. Who is his buddy,
Chris Paul's what a good friend of his ull? Chris
Paul probably didn't help matters with something he did in
(01:07:51):
the pre game. Yes, and you're you're, you're, you're referring
to the shooting thing or what we're gonna discuss that.
We'll discuss it a little bit in depth later. But
for those unaware, is the quick quick of it. Steph Curry,
trying to get himself back in shooting form, wanted to
go and reserve the court. I headed the game thinking
I can go and get some shots up and get
my mind right, get that shooter's background. And upon hearing
(01:08:15):
that Steph Curry was gonna do this, Chris Paul made
made sure he came in and he's able to veto
that and override. It wouldn't let him use half the court,
so that shooting ability was was shuttered. And while Curry
struggled early, but going to the locker room post game,
made sure to point yeah, kick me off the court again,
(01:08:36):
referring to Chris Paul. Yeah, I think everybody heard that
and wonder what what the heck is he talking about.
They later learned the truth, But it seems like Lebron.
So do you think, in my opinion, Lebron's trying to
get his beast stick stick his beak into a playoffs
that he's missed for the first time in thirteen years.
He's clearly to me he misses the playoffs Shore. Do
the playoffs miss him? Absolutely? Oh? I don't think so. Oh,
(01:08:58):
I don't. I think we've had the stage has been
cleared for other stars to shine. We watched the Embid
versus Kwaie battles. We've watched your Honest against the Celtics.
That's been brilliant. Out west here the Rockets Golden State
has dominated, has been a incredible series. I can watch
that forever. We have a great Portland Deniverse series. I
(01:09:19):
don't think so. I think I think this has allowed
other stars to shine, other moments to take over. There's
been more. I mean again, just Friday Night's game was stunning.
I mean absolutely you can. You can't chopping it has
been chopped up in many times but since between now
and then, we won't do it again here, but it's
it was stunning what Steph Curry did, moment they did
and knocking down all his free throws, something James Harden
(01:09:41):
couldn't do. He'd been brilliant at the line for the
rest of the series. Miss five free throws? What's your
margin of victory? Bill? Five points? Yeah? No, I I
think this is I think Kevin Lebron. I don't think
the NBA Mrs Lebron like you thought it would. Now
the ratings, the ratings were really great for they never
tremendous for that game. For that game. Sure, yeah, and
certainly we've hit that winning time, so the ratings will
(01:10:04):
stabilize right as we get rid of the extra teams
along the non contenders, as it will. But and maybe
for Lebron it's more the early part of the playoffs.
And but there's always he always wants another team or
player to love or hate, and he moves the Needle.
I mean, how much did they talk about, you know,
(01:10:25):
Frank Vogel, the coach, higher and everything. Even in the
broadcast they would still inject Lakers talk with great regularity.
But I think it is it's just such a glaring issue.
But I think if Philadelphia wins today their Game seven,
which actually I don't think they will, but if they
be Toronto and Beads a great villain and e Bead
and Simmons are great villains. So I mean, I think
(01:10:46):
you have those if those guys getting the getting the
Conference finals against Milwaukee, you have those that you have
Gold State, that you have Yo Kitchen Denver. I think
you have stars that would allow us to appreciate them
that we could not do. We'd be so focused on
what are the kids doing? What are Lebron doing? Everything
go to Lebron? Nothing goes through Lebron right now, and uh,
I'll be interested to see. In fact, I wonder when
his first What's Your Run? Ron wins? His first quote
(01:11:08):
about the new quotch gonna come out, Not until he
shows up on the shop, on the shop. It's got
to be on the shop, but three weeks from now
or whenever the next episode of the shop when he
didn't address the magic thing for almost a month. Yeah,
so I although that was tape right afterwards, it didn't
become but it didn't get get aired and gone public.
So yeah, it might have been initial. But same thing
(01:11:30):
here with the Vogel, like he's not gonna do it
unless he's gonna get some kind of benefit. Well, I'll
tell you what I would. I'd have so much respect
for him in this town. Would if he showed up
at that Frank Vogel press conference, wouldn't it be something
that would be a big move. It would be a
big symbolically, it would be a huge shift from where
he's been for the last year. Put him on a
podium next to Polinka, that would get Polinka some more credibility.
(01:11:52):
Put him next to Vogel. Put him next to Jason Kidd. No, no,
Jason Kidd actually cannot be at the press No no, no, no,
no no. I mean he might be learning in the shadow.
And let's face it, he's gonna be photoshopped in n
anything from that press conference anyway, you know, lurking in
the shadows, ready to take over. But from Lebron James,
I think you've gone ten months now of Los Angeles
(01:12:15):
waiting for him to embrace them. Not that everybody wanted
to embrace him. There's still all the Kobe fans and
Laker fans that would still rather he stay away, and
some of these entitled kids yelling about his presence certainly
is part of it. And when we always get back to,
you know, with Frank Vogel, I would love to know
what went through his brain upon the hiring. Was he consulted?
(01:12:39):
Was he not? And if not, you know, does this
ruffle the feathers? I mean, there's a lot of conspiracy
theories out there about Lebron James and his future in
l A. I'm sure they don't do anything that I
consulted him. I cannot believe. Maybe not him, but Clutch
Sports absolutely, and they probably said give us Frank Vogel,
will give you Jason Kidd, Frank we need I think
in vote they needed a ace, a pleasant, engaging personality
(01:13:04):
to put a face on it. He liked the Dodgers
and Dave Roberts. They needed that face. But Jason kidds
is Lebron's guy. At some point you get to the
should you have just kept Luke Walton at this point
Comedy Alive from the guy. That's a great question. How
about that? Right? Is that a question that we forget
that kid? Just keep Luke Walton just keep rolling through
their company Alive from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios.
(01:13:24):
Easy to Say or more on car Church with Geico

The only hard part is figuring out which way is easier.
Coming up next, we go back into positive territory. Some
of the favorite things. That's next on Fox At Farmer's Insurance,
we know the sound of a perfect hot air balloon
(01:13:45):
landing and a less than perfect one. I've seen it,
covered it to farmers. We are farmers under written my
Farmers Truck Fire Insurance Exchange and Affiliates prodcts unavlable in

Carmen alongside Bill Plasky. This is Fox Sports Sunday. They
(01:14:08):
can find me on Twitter over at Swall when don't
find Bill at Bill Plashky tributes to Mom. Do you
want to send him in? Hey, the good, the bad,
the ugly, we take them all. We all gave our
experiences and as I was just kind of talking in
the hallways. I mean, we're we become a family here.
We spend a lot of time together in these Fox
Sports Radio studios. So what I wanted to do, Bill,
(01:14:29):
before we get to your favorite things, give the rest
of our guys a chance to say hi to mom. First,
We'll start with Isaac, Happy Mother's Day to my mom,
who is in labor with me for twenty three hours
and has been in labor with me ever since. Also
on behalf of my two very young children. I'd like
to wish a happy Mother's Day to their mom, my wife.
(01:14:51):
And here's hoping their Mother's Day present to her will
be no poops until Dada gets home. Mr Michael Harmon
and Bill Plasky and tens seconds. But first I work. Yeah,
I have no idea how to respond to that. Chris,
our technical producer, getting us and making us sound pretty
go ahead, Uh yeah, just shout out to my mother
right now. It's uh, it's kind of bitter sweet for us.
(01:15:12):
I mean, she's a very strong woman. She started her
own business. Now now that we're all out of the house, Uh,
I don't know if I can plug it on here,
But I mean she's she makes her own furniture. She
does some amazing stuff over in Ohio. As I said,
a little bit of sweet right now, my grandmother just passed,
so she's taking care of business back in Pennsylvania right now.
Just said goodbye to hers. But uh, you know, happy
(01:15:33):
Mother's Day to her, and uh just keep being strong. Well,
and you got us, so we give you the big
hug that you know you want to you know, takes
takes the village and vince real quick. I will. I'll
give a little Mother's Day shout out to my mother
in law. I know not everybody gets along with theirs,
but I'm a big fan of hers and she seems
(01:15:54):
to be a big fan of me. There you go.
I have her, I wud not my wife, so some
points there you go. All right, it's time to get
into Bill's favorite things. Everyone has an opinion in sports,
and many only focus on the negative. Not our Bill
plash Key. Bill looks for the best in all situations.
Are a few of my favorite things are Bill's favorite things.
(01:16:20):
I wrote a column last year on Mother's Day about
my mother and about a story that to find our
relationship and her incredible impact on my life. And NPR
purchase the story and turned and turned it into a
radio drama that they ran on It's only a Game
this year, and we have a clip from that story now.
She was my first reader, my first editor, even my
(01:16:42):
first publisher, her weary fingers tapping out my first words
in a dark in basement in the middle of the night.
I was a thirteen year old sportswriter who couldn't type,
so my mother would type my stories for me. It
was always Sunday, always late. She had to report for
work at the Ford Plant early the next morning, but
she would wait up for me to scribble my youth
(01:17:02):
league baseball game story into a little blue binder, and
she would take the binder and walk down the steps
to the rickety tray table that held the worrying Corona
electric typewriter. Four days later, my little story would miraculously
appear on the pages of the Voice jefferson Ian. Except
the miracle wasn't the news print. It was my mother,
(01:17:23):
the strongest person I know, maybe like a mother, you know,
one of those powerful women who never stopped carrying us. Well,
thank you, thank you for playing that, And I'd like
I'd like to welcome on the air right now, the
great Mary Margaret plashkey, my mom, welcome on board. Happy
Mother's Day, Mom, thank you. I wish you all could
(01:17:46):
see these beautiful flowers you sent me. They are beautiful,
the mom, were they were? Were they worth the hundred
fifty dollars a man on him? See I I told
him that that that's seventy wagers at the track. I know,
well that's okay, but I'm worth it right, absolutely, no question.
Happy mother's Happy mothers. Do you have a good story
(01:18:08):
about young Billy you'd like to give to our audience? Oh? Good?
Good or bad? Your choice, as long as you don't curse,
we're all good. No, No, he was. He was a
good kid. Really he was a few little escapades, but
really a good kid. A few escapades. Well you know,
(01:18:29):
a couple of things he did at school, but that's followed,
but he got through them. Okay, Well, Mom, tell us,
what's what's the key to being a good What advice
would you give any young mothers out there listening? The
key to being a good mom? Because you were the best. Oh,
I just love him, Just love you love him all
that's key. Just that love, that nurturing, that feeling all right,
(01:18:52):
your mom can have Well more importantly, any keys to going.
You're going to the race track, going to Churchill down
today to the races. Yes, yes we are, like I
said seventy five right there? Bill, what's the at the
race track? Well, you're better. You're the luckier than I am.
Just I just I just bet crazy, I bet track
(01:19:15):
tectus and this and you know, and they're still running.
That's a great line that mom, Well they are that
Bill's lucky, he gets he picks winners. But I have
fun and I get to those twin spars. It's so
inspiring there in those beautiful horses. They are just so beautiful.
(01:19:38):
It's just really inspires me just to go, even if
I lose money. Well, Mom, I just want to thank
you for everything you've done for me on the behalf
of everything. And again you type? Did you ever think typing?
Did you? I mean what made you type up my
stories for me when I was a kid because I
couldn't type it myself? Else? House? Would you? House? Would
(01:19:59):
they have got prison? And how did you? How did
you make that drive? But how would you make that?
You made that late night drive? How tired were you
making that late night drive to the to the newspapers.
It was worth every minute of it, every minute because
(01:20:19):
I see you see your face light up on that
Thursday morning when the paper came out. It was worth
it all. That's awesome, fantastic mom, Thank you very much.
Happy Mother's Day. I hope you win too. Can't wait
to your the tails. Don't bet too much now, mommy,
don't worry about that, you know your mother. Fantastic, Thanks Mama,
(01:20:45):
goodee to buy. That was fantastic, Bill. That was really cool.
That was really cool. Thank you all for let me
do all the smile on your face and I could
see in your head what those escapades may have been.
I might be tapping into your right here in a

you get the copy of that as that makes it
earned that c D and put it in Bill's archives.
(01:21:28):
I still watch him type. He hasn't gotten any better.
We'll get back into the Nbay playoffs and the Lakers
hiring next here on Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back, in greetings.
Our three second half begins Fox Sports Sunday, Mike Armen
alongside Bill Plashkey having fun with you. We had Bill's
mom on the last hour making me smile and she'd
(01:21:49):
get ready to go win big at the races. It
is Mother's Day. We appreciate all of you that fill
that role in our lives. Did do what you do
for the kids. Now, all of it goes through we
know what takes a village. Mom's, dad's, grandma's, grandpa's, aunt's, uncles,
the neighbor down the street. Everybody plays a role, the
teachers at school, but certainly the impact of moms on
(01:22:12):
your lives. I mean Bill and I going through it
all the memories of the different things our moms did
for us growing up, and we just gotta chuckle at
some of the memories as you go through of wow,
they really did they put up with that, and they
would and they always say, and it's so do They say,
you won't understand until you have your own kids, and
(01:22:32):
then and then your kids will drive you crazy. And
then then I'll get my payback. And and that's how
many times did you get that growing up there? You'll
get your payback. Yeah, you'll see, you'll see how hard
you are. You'll see what it's like. Man, I really
wish I had a notepad to put that up on
a wall style. Now, why do you think Mother's Day
is so much bigger than Father's Day? And it is, you,
(01:22:55):
you know, without it, without a doubt. I mean, I
think some of it goes into for uh an economic
and marketing and sales standpoint, the idea of cards, flowers
whatever for mom. It doesn't translate as easily for dad.
So I think part of it is going to be
the the merchandizing of it to a degree. The other
(01:23:16):
is mom, you know, birth mothers, whether you get later,
get adopted or whatever the situation becomes. They did have
to put up with you in utero for eight nine.
They they had, you know, they gave up some some
serious body time for that. They have a connection with
the children moms that dad's just can't We can be
(01:23:36):
strong for our children and all and all that, but
there's just this, there's there's just this this biological thing.
I think a lot of times moms and kids. And
it's interesting in covering the NBA as many years as
I have, Mother's Day is a huge day. And this
is a sociological, uh statement. Mother's Day is a huge
day in the NBA. It's huge. Players all talk about.
They come in and show off photos of the cars
(01:23:58):
about their moms, and the houses they about their moms,
and the gifts about their moms. And it's a huge
day in the NBA season during the playoffs. Yet often
Father's Day will fall sometimes during the finals and it's
not such a big day there. And I think a
lot of that is because a lot of of of
the players, not a lot of players, I would say,
but some people in general in this country, single parents,
(01:24:20):
single parent homes certainly comes into play as well. And
the mom is there, and it's funny the mom's like
on Mother's Day, moms want to be surrounded by their kids.
On Father's Day, Dad's a lot of times just they
want to be left alone to watch sports to watch golf. Well,
whatever it might be on golf or basketball finals. As
you said, whatever the case, maybe may be able to
go and disappear for four hours to go play golf.
(01:24:40):
I mean there, Yeah, you're right, you're right. Would you
agree moms want to be surrounded, they hadn't want to
be left alone. Yeah, generally speaking, that's why, I mean,
why we have the big talk earlier this morning. Right,
you know, your mom's going to the track. My mom's
got my brothers down there and in Clearwater, Florida listening.
I'm my my grandma down there. I Paton and Geraldine
(01:25:02):
getting it on with the the guys hanging out, getting
ready and I'm sure cooking already, maybe doing some handicapping.
The Harmon family has been known to place a wager
two on horses. What track is down there? What track? Well,
you got Tampa Bay downs and then you also have um,
well you do all sorts of side track occasionally, far
(01:25:22):
less frequently. That's the hey, we're board, we need to
get out of the house. Move. But the the uh
with the way things go with your paramutual wagering online,
I mean, that's that's the the burgeoning thing. Like when
we were in Chicago, you'd go to ball Moral, Maywood,
sometimes go out to you know, out to Arlington. Arlington
was a hike from our our south side of Boat,
(01:25:44):
so we didn't really do that one too often, but
you know, we'd go out for a night of racing
and mom would come with oftentimes and then you'd end
up getting the burrito as big as your head at
twelve thirty in the morning coming back. Also a mom's
if you're you know, we both have children. When your
children sick, as much as you're with them, they always
want to be with their moms. It's always that moment
(01:26:06):
with their moms. It's interesting how kids kids are like that.
And the dad could be the main provider and be
the main parent and be the you know, the hands
on parent. It doesn't matter you're sick, you want your mom.
Some of those instinctual things that roll through We we
thank our moms. I mean, we've told some of the
stories today. Uh just between library visits and get his
(01:26:27):
slipping you to practice Bill and then the great story
of your mom actually typing out your early columns. She
was kind of a mountain drive them, drive him to
the newspaper office and put him the mail slot at
midnight on a Monday. It was funny I had I
was several years ago. I had a I was in
the hospital. I was covering on a road trip. And
(01:26:47):
you've ever been sick on the road. And I was
the hospital for three days and I finally got out,
but I wasn't able to travel home yet. I was
in Tampa. So my mom flew down from Kentucky and
just sat in a chair with me while I was
in the hotel room. And I slept for two days
and she just set in a chair there. No, it's
just just set there and just having her there, you sleep,
having her there, you feel, it's just that peace. If
(01:27:09):
you really feel peaceful's find that inner peace. Well, we
appreciate the moms and for the guys that are lined
up in their cars out here on Ventura Boulevard going
past the Whole Foods and spending a lot on flowers.
And they had box the chocolates out there at five
am when I was driving up to Bill. So I
mean making a making a good bank as we rolled through.
And if you're sitting and waiting the other part of it,
(01:27:31):
you know, we've talked about flowers candy cards and brunch.
Brunches a thing on Mother's Day. Bunch is not a
thing on Father's Day. No, And a brunch is so
and it's actually a horrible thing on Mother's Day. It's
it's overpriced, you have to make reservations a month in advance,
it's crowded, it's loud, and it's often like I'm often
wonder if moms, if that's another case of the mom's
(01:27:53):
being selfless. They go to brunch because the kids think
they want to go to brunch when the moms maybe
wouldn't they rather just be home? Black said, at your house,
they're they're cooking at home today. Maybe the moms were
weather the kids cook for her at home and not
have to fight the crowds in the traffic. Now that's
the prices, and figure it out right and go get
your value because supply demand. You know, you only have
so many seats per sitting in a restaurant. Obviously you
(01:28:16):
can jack it up. Even if you add crab legs
or whatever that specialty is, you're still not getting value.
NBA Playoffs Game seven, we got two of them. We
talked a little bit about Denver Portland earlier. Bill we've
got Philly and Toronto. The quest for whom will land
Kauahi Leonard at the end of this playoff run or
whether he stays in Toronto still a possibility. On the
(01:28:39):
other side, you have the Philadelphia seventies Sixers. Jason and
I have argued that Jimmy Butler has been your king
of consistency when it comes to the Sixers and getting
it done. But the straw that stirs to drink, Joel
Embide when he's on the court just such a difference
maker on both and they are when in b plays
in this postseason, they are plus when he won. When
(01:29:01):
he doesn't play there minus forty six. He was plus
forty the other night. They are fifty points when e
beat And is playing on the court with Koie Leonard
on the on the other team on Toronto, the Sixers
or fifty points better than the Raptors, and and beat
is is an unstoppable force when he plays. When he
plays healthy, I hate that we have to have that qualifier,
(01:29:21):
but it's true because he's so good for the game.
We talked a little bit about Nikola Yokich and his
rise in his fourth season to becoming a household name
Joel Embid. We've been waiting on the process all this time.
We had the injury reports and illnesses and everything over
the course of this series. But you saw in this
last game out just how important he is and how
(01:29:43):
good he could be if he can stay on the court.
So what happens this game seven? One of two big
things happened, so that if Philadelphia loses, does Brett Brown
get fired or do they break up and beating Simmons?
And if Toronto loses, does Kauai then leave Toronto for good?
For sure? No, that's just it right the NBA story. Yeah,
(01:30:05):
But for Ben Simmons, you know, everybody immediately did their
one eighty on him after one great game, And I
joked on, did you see the shot chart for him? No,
I didn't see it was it? It was basically if
you if you had a picture, you know how if
you go to a shooting range or b at the carnival,
everything was in It was literally a circle like normally
(01:30:27):
you have these little dots all over of a shot chart.
He just had one big black guy, had a year
off from injury and still didn't learn how to shoot. No,
I just I'm not a Simmons guy at all. No,
that's the hard he He disappeared as usually as he
came back here. Don't have to choose between being Simmons.
I think at some point I don't know if they
can play together. I mean, I really don't know if
they can play together down the road long term. I
(01:30:48):
think you're probably better with off without with you know,
without each other, you know, in each other's way. And
I think you keep him being get rid of Simmons
because you've got so much to it, right, Jimmy Butler
talk of where he ends up. I don't want I
don't want to come to the Lakers. He's I think
he's a short time guy. Yeah, but he's not a
championship guy. And he's a pain in the butt and
he's a complainer and a whiner. And I'm not a gym.
(01:31:10):
But I think part of it is also there's a
different standard he wants for players. He's he's twenty years
in the rear view oftentimes with how he approaches the
game right and just throwback, because I want guys like
him that are gonna give me forty eight minutes and grind.
We can differ on styles, say, you know, Russell Westbrooks
(01:31:31):
another great example of this. You may not like a
lot of it, but you know, for forty eight minutes
he's giving you effort. And I can't say that all
the time, or at least you know, the outside looking
in the appearances, he got a lot of guys that
don't know. It's been Butler's problem and every stop is
conflicting with practice styles and and attitudes of players. And
(01:31:52):
that was the report there with Simmons and Embiide early
on as well. He called a meeting and yelled at him, right, yeah,
and so I'm just I'm not a Butler guy. Just
and do you think Red Bounce will be fired? I
think if they don't win this game, which I don't
think they will, they will win it. I think maybe
he's taken as far as he can take. You gotta go.
It's a fall guy. You gotta go find another voice.
(01:32:13):
Tobias Harris may not stick around, right, he's a free agent.
So you've got a lot of you know, the process
may be officially killed killed today from after today. And
I don't I don't see how they win in Toronto.
I mean it's a tough place to win. And again
seven that stat. Sev of game seven's are one by
the home team. Always comes down to this for me
(01:32:33):
with that squad. What am I getting from Kyle Lowry?
Here's your million dollar question? Hey Bill, it's time to
bring Vince close back in for another section of the
Good News. You've got your coffee, You're reclined in the
comfy chair, and the dog is relaxing at your feet.
All that's missing is some background music and some reading material.
(01:32:54):
Mike and Bill, get you ready for the day and
this edition of the Sunday Paper. Welcome in, brother, How
are you? I am doing great. It's nice and bright
out here on the West Coast. I'm ready to get
it going. We're gonna go to the World section. Okay,
there is a world sea weed to yell at you
(01:33:17):
about that. No, there is a world sex was either
international section or world section where I remember the World
section from the Washington Post. So we're going to the
World section where Russia's president Vladimir Putin scored either eight
or ten goals depending on various reports. I always say
(01:33:40):
I'm having in a National Hockey League game um that
included some former players. It was played at the Soci's
Bullshoy Ice Dome. And my question to you guys, We've
got a lot of presidents that have in the past
in America that have been sports fans. You know, Barack
(01:34:00):
Obama played some basketball. Donald Trump plays a lot of golf.
Are we impressed with the sixties six year old head
of state getting out there on the ice and mixing
it up with some formal NHL players. The answer is no, no, no.
First off, he took a face first spill while celebrating
waving to the crowd during the postgame victory lap and
his goals. The AP reports eight, but the Kremlin says
(01:34:24):
it's ten. So the APIs reporter. Maybe he's going to
the gulag or something. Um they you know about the
guy that shot the video from falling on his face,
that guy, that guy's gone uh no and everything. And
I was in SOCI. I have been as the only
one in this room who has I guess been to
(01:34:45):
the SOCI Bullshot Ice Dome. I've been there. I covered
the Olympics and SOCI. And is that a humble bragger?
You just don't know what I'm saying, because it shows
that I'm saying I had the experience to know, everything
Pwton does is fake. It's all phony, it's all stage,
it's all for show. I don't believe any of it.
I believe he was actually skating, but I'm guessing that
these goals, I'm guessing they were empty net goals. That's
(01:35:07):
all I'm guessing. All right, Well, I don't have any
video of him, you know, shooting on Patrick Wah style.
There is actually a video, and it does appear that
the goal on one goal that it does appear with
the goalie lifted his legs, but he could have been
just putting down a stick together to get at it.
We don't know. Yeah, for me, I'll stipulate to the
(01:35:29):
politics and worldview pushed to the side. I'll stipulate to
the hey, they may have done and done to give
up on well all or some horse of the goals
still at sixty six, to get out there and skate,
Stay active, people, Get out there. That's some moms. They've
been talking to you all morning. Keep moving, keep those
knees moving, keep them up. Everybody else supports your bobs
(01:35:50):
by keeping your knees moving, keep them up and putting
at sixty six. The fact that he's still putting on
ice skates and we'll still pose shirtless on a horse.
Can not excuse him for that. It is not that
a horrible thing. Oh come on, But however, you haven't
wanted to shirt list on a horse. Ladimir Putant coin
with his face on it and my house and I
(01:36:11):
gave it to my Russian barber. Oh good. She wasn't
happy with me. She's not a fan. It was I
made it. That was a political suicide I did with
my Russian barber. I should have realized what am I thinking?
She's here in this country, she's not as probably not
a fan. She's trying to be an attempt at a
gesture bill. Sometimes we are our greatest efforts, you know,
(01:36:32):
don't exactly. Hey, you know we're coming to Alive from
the Getico Fox Sports Radio studios. Fifteen minutes can save
you fift more on car insurance. So going to Geico
dot com get yourself a free rate quote. Coming out next.
Chris Paul kept Steph Curry off the court, and then
Steph Curry showed him the exit. We'll talk about at

I mean we talk about the sections Bill main content
(01:37:38):
coming out left and right and obviously all you can
see Bill on around the horn. Me you find me, um,
I live here at Fox Sports Radio. Uh. The final
game of the Warriors Rockets series had intrigued drama all
the way throughout one eighteen one thirteen the final, but
it started in this story building over the last twenty
(01:38:00):
were hours or so of Steph Curry on Friday night.
Heading in this comes from the athletics Marcus Thompson that
before the Western Conference semifinals, Curry wanted to get some
shots up at Toyota Center, so they booked the court
from seven to eight pm so Curry could go work
on his shot, and then Chris Paul got wind of this,
(01:38:20):
he decided to go to Toyota Center to get up shots,
there by nixing Curries reservations, home court advantage, pregame style,
and the war Warriors point guard Steph goes back and
I get half the court, and that was Nicks. Chris
Paul was saying, it's my court. I'm taking my ball
and I'm gonna go out there so you, uh, you
can beat it. So post game, after beating the Rockets
(01:38:44):
to send them into the good Night by five, and
Curry having one of the most ridiculous quarters of basketball
we've seen in recent memory with his twenty three points
perfect from the free throw line to give the Warriors
of five point victory and advanced them to the next round.
As he's going to the locker room, he high fives
Draymond Green. He says, try to kick me off the
(01:39:04):
court again. And so Chris Paul goes into the good night.
Had had a good couple of games to finish off
the series. In the box score, it's gonna look great.
There are a couple of sequences that we can point
out where Chris Paul was usual playoff Chris Paul, but
only a couple. But this part of Petty is next
(01:39:25):
level and just adds to another paragraph to the Wikipedia
page of Chris Paul spokesman and Chris Paul the guy.
He is so different from the charming guy you see
on the State Farm commercials. He's such a pain in
the butt. He's always been one the Clippers couldn't win
with them. They had to live with him out here.
He made one big shot against San Antonio to win
(01:39:46):
a playoff series, but in general he was like people
would compare him to players his teammates with for him,
and he's like Kobe Bryant without the credentials. He was
hard to play with. He would show up his teammates
and this is so heady and so childish. He wouldn't
even give him the half court. Wouldn't even give Steph
the half court of the Tota Center. You got to
(01:40:08):
go somewhat to the sportsmanship of it. Take your half court.
The other is how you're struggling with the shot beat it.
I'm gonna look for every competitive advantage i I can,
so to some degree I understand it. It's just a
bad look for a guy who's already had a number
of things piled on. And even though his play was
on point for most of it, and see that point guard,
(01:40:28):
uh that he in this comes off tone deaf again.
At this point in his career, don't you think he
could embrace you know, being a good guy, or being
a decent guy, or just being a good sport And no,
you're right, you make a good point. They don't want
him to get advantage of of the background and you know,
of of Tota Center and get get accustomed to it again.
(01:40:50):
But they played there four or five times this year already.
It wasn't gonna help him that much anyway. He muzzled,
He's shot a fallen. Whether he's shooting at the Rice
University gym or or the University of Houston gym, what's
the difference. So I I just think at this point
in his career, you would think he would be understand enough, because,
believe me, Chris Paul played great NET Game six. He
was terrible most of the series. Yeah, the early part
(01:41:12):
of the series he was awful. The last couple of
games played fairly well, except for some stretches because even
Game five, the much maligned Game five, after Kevin Durant
went out with the the injury. They didn't play defense,
which has been the hallmark of Houston for much of
the year. They turned the tables a little bit this
year and they were better, but coming from where they were,
(01:41:35):
that's still, you know, a long way. But they scored
twenty seven points in that final frame. Offensively, they did
the job, even if it wasn't the normal cast of
characters that put up points. Right because James Harden got killed.
We did a little of it on on after the
Game five finished, Jason Smith and I. But it's also
the all right, if they're still scoring, I can't. I
(01:41:57):
can't kill the guy for not being you know, ball
dependent likewise, Chris Paul. But you go into into the
game six, you still have a chance. You're seven and
a half point favorite at home, and Andre Iguodala, Looney
and Andrew Bogan are the guys that helps put the
(01:42:18):
was beaten by Curry on several shots. I don't I
just don't think, and I've seen enough of him to
know I don't think Chris Paul ever wins a championship.
And now you're looking at think I don't mind Mike
D'Antoni doesn't win a champion, does he get fired? We
we had the James Harden uh quote post game right
he was asked, Hey, what do you guys need to
do to get past this hump? And he just looked
(01:42:40):
at the reporter goes, I know what we need to do,
and we'll do that this summer and left at it
like that. It was like a great movie tease. Well,
I would think at this point his system doesn't work,
hasn't worked, didn't work in Phoenix, didn't work in l A,
didn't work in New York, not working here. I think, yeah,
I think you move on from that. I mean and
and hopefully and we got this uh Tillman for for Tita,
(01:43:04):
the Rockets owner went on the laurant after the game
and he said, quote, we need to learn from it.
We have great athletes, we have great players. You did
say you have a great coach. I'm a fortunate guy
to have James starting and Chris Paul and my team
and Eric Gordon. Hopefully we can learn from it and
be better. So apparently you know he's not given us
quote of what's your confidence there? I would say yes,
(01:43:25):
I would say d'antonia would not be a surprise if
they moved on from him. Yeah. I mean you're talking
about top heavy. And I know it's seventy five million
on the books for Paul and Harden next year, and
then you add Clint Capella, uh and Gordon. But here
is for Tita. Right after the game, they came to
our home court and they kicked our ass. And that's
just the way it is. And they outscored us by
ten points in the fourth quarter. They won. They're the champions,
(01:43:47):
and we lost any more painful because it's in your backyard.
Tell yeah, it's more painful. You know, you know this
was not fun. And I guarantee you James and Chris
and and our team is very upset right now. They
kicked our I asked on our home court. They beat
us by ten points in the fourth comorter, it's unacceptable, Okay,
we just have to be better and and our note
that we're gonna rise to the occasion and our time
(01:44:09):
is gonna come. Unacceptable kicked our bleep. That sounds like
Mike d'antoni's gone. Gotta have yourself a fall, guy, I
gotta have a full Unacceptable something. Then something has to
be accepted to make a change, and it ain't gonna
be the players because they're not going anywhere. Well, we
had a great discussion office. I want to get your
thoughts a little more on the Fatiga comments as well
(01:44:30):
as Kyrie Irving. Yeah, he quit in the end of
the last series. We'll talk about him in a manute.
At first, we're gonna step out over to Isaac and yeah, yeah, yeah,
and we're gonna find out what's trending in our sporting
universe Hilo, Michael and Bill. On Saturday, Adrian war Janowski
reported that the Lakers are hiring Frank Vogel is their
new head coach, to a three year deal, with Jason
(01:44:53):
Kidd as a prominent assistant coach. In fact, here's how
it's sounded when Vogel and Kid discussed this unique arrangement
to lay down their swords not to trust me, I
(01:45:19):
love you the best. That's awesome NBA action, It's fantastic.

He's built Plashkia on. Mike Carmen, Thanks for hanging out
with us to get your mother's day started. Maybe you're
making a nice brunch, maybe you've got something going in
your smoke or whatever the case, may be ready for brunch.
Coming back from services. Thanks for hanging out with us.
Happy Mother's Day to all of those who served that purpose,
that function, that place in each of our lives, because
(01:46:44):
for each person that could be a little bit different. Bill,
as we've been talking all morning, the winds of change
in the NBA. We've got two Game seven's tonight, but
when we get after it, they're going to decide some
fortunes of who comes, who stays. And couple of teams
are at that crossroads. Another guy, Kyrie Irving, after Game
(01:47:05):
four of the series, the whitewashing, you know, the gentleman's speech.
Gentleman sweep is the term I'm looking for. Uh, they
get game one, they blow out the Bucks and then
they go quietly into the good night. Kyrie Irving in
his statements after that game went down, and he praised everybody,
including the guy that hands out the towels as guys
come off the court. Uh, Boudenholzer was a genius, and
(01:47:28):
go on down the line indicting there for Brad Steven's
ability to game plan for the Bucks. And then as predicted,
they went quietly in game five and and move out
of the playoffs. Now, Kyrie Irving, well, where's he end up?
And you've got the nets, you've got the Knicks, and
you've got the Lakers. Because remember he he offered that
(01:47:50):
Olive branch talking about leadership, and man, I never really
realized how hard that was for for Lebron. Well, there
are now reports starting to him urge that Irving and
this is Brian wyn Horse quote. Irving has had discussions
about potentially playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. Brian win Horse,
who famously has pretty much every first line on Lebron James.
(01:48:13):
So I would imagine this comes from the rich Paul
Clutch sports camp of sources. If we're gonna kind of
do the back math of where this goes. Allegedly, this
is me just trying to read the tea leaves based
on a lot of reports through the years. But the
idea of Kyrie Irving coming back and being the number
two in Los Angeles, how do you make it? How
does that make you feel? Yeah, it's weird. I don't
(01:48:34):
believe it. I don't cannot imagine it happening. But if
wind Horse is his possibility, then I believe it's a possibility. Um,
I can't imagine he walked away from Lebron at the
height of their careers after the greatest championship that we've
you know that we've seen in recent history, and he's
gonna go back to him now because what's changed, what's different?
(01:48:57):
And I know the Lakers Jason Kid, I believe it's
probably close with Kyrie, and that's probably what another reason
they probably hired Jason thinking they're gonna get Kyrie. I
just can't imagine Lebron is even more empowered than ever.
And maybe Kyrie wants to be the number two guy again,
But I just don't think what led him to leave
him leave him him in Cleveland. Now, if they got
(01:49:17):
in Tyler, maybe he'd come back. But I just again,
this would amaze me if this happened now. If this
does happen, everything we've been trashing Lakers on gets taken
back because they become a championship caliber team. I think
with Kyrie and Lebron playing together, though they were trade
Lonzo Ball, they fits some pieces around them. Those two
(01:49:41):
guys did it once in the East, they'd have at
least they have a chance to to win the West.
It woud be a championship level team. I think that
they have Kyrie's when a few free agents that could
change that around. He's still a great player. But do
you see, I just can't imagine all we've been through,
all he's been through, and all he's walked away from.
Hed go back into it, and it's the storm he
walked away from and the craziness that he left in Cleveland,
(01:50:02):
and the dominance by Lebron in Cleveland is even It's
ten times tenfold in l a A Like he never
even ran the Cavalier. No, But I think one of
the things with Kyrie Irving is a bit of perspective, right,
and he talked about the leadership and certainly an uneven,
miserable performance over the course of this year. We watched
it from the I'm on the court saying I'll be
(01:50:23):
here as long as they'll have me to hate to
ask me on July one, and then going back and forth.
Some days he would answer questions about the future, some
days he wouldn't. And this team never really jelled, right.
Everybody was waiting for them to flip the switch, so
that offering of the olive branch, because remember, he's the
guy that hit the shot that gives them the title.
But nobody cared. It didn't matter. It was still Lebron
(01:50:46):
and I think, you know, go back even just those
couple of years. You're salty about that, right, You're like,
I got no credit for this, so you said, I'm
gonna go out on my own. It's the same argument
to a degree of Kevin Durant suddenly lee even the
Warriors if he were to leave after this year of
I win. I'm a back to back finals m v P. Right,
(01:51:07):
and while I'm hurt, and he was wearing the throwback
Bulls shorts hanging out watching Steph Curry is now the
guy again, and it's all about the selflessness of Steph
Curry and what this team is. And we talked about
it Friday, Jason dan Buyer. Was it for Jason, Like,
you watch how that offense flows when Durant isn't there.
I mean, You've got guys moving off the ball like
they don't and can't when Durant on the on the court.
(01:51:30):
It's just a different way that offense flows. It's not good,
it's bad, not bad, it's just different. You know that
mean he's up a great point. I don't want to
interject this real quick by my friend well Monty Jones
made the point and it's see it seems that if
it helps to be true. From the moment, Kevin Durant said,
y'all know who I am. I'm Kevin Durant. You know
who I am. Durant took over, Curry disappeared, sullenly. Durant
(01:51:52):
goes away, Courier emerges again. We thought I thought something
was wrong with Kura. I thought he was hurt bad.
I thought he was his finger was really by other
than I thought he was, had lost the step, but
which she says, He's actually right. They work better. He
works better without Durant. A couple of big games, and
now we go into the next round. And I think
the presumption is they win in the West, and then
(01:52:14):
it becomes a battle of you know, against Milwaukee, a
loaded squad, or or the I don't think I think
they win all that, don't you? You You really think the
East has any challenge just throwing it up as a
as a possibility. No, I don't. I personally, I don't
I think they win the title because I think Durant
and orm Boogie cousins will be back to at least
give them some minutes. So you can envision Kyrie coming
to the Lakers. I could see it on some level,
(01:52:36):
and I think, you know, does it make us negate
what we've said about the Lakers. No, because it wasn't
part of some grand plan, like unless you can show
me this was storyboarded somewhere and this is a big
Hollywood play. The fact that it falls into place doesn't
negate the year and a half, six years of bumbling,
inane decision making by the Lakers, brass. I mean, Ron
(01:53:00):
came here because he wanted to come here. Right, Magic
wants to make that his big parting thing. If I
delivered Lebron, that's great and they can have that and
Lebron in the shop, right, he said, hey, it was
part of it was magic And he didn't even give
me a kiss my blank on the way out the door,
Like all right, you guys can try to sell that
all you want, but the fact is, if it suddenly
turns back into a title contending team, it's it's happenstance.
(01:53:23):
It wasn't some grand I just I just don't see him.
He would be Lebron's you know, number two by far
out here. Well, maybe he's willing to take thake that
he doesn't want the leadership. He saw what that got him,
got him a lot of grief. Yeah, well that would
that would show a lot of maturity. Then I'm not
so sure he has. But I guess that's that's a question.
I guess we'll find that out. We're gonna find out,
(01:53:44):
you know, really quick. Before we we went to Ilo,
we were talking about Fatina and the ownership um and
and that fiery speech of you know, this is unacceptable.
We lose by ten. You know it's on our home court,
Like that's the type of owner you want. Thank you,
thank you, you know what. And for all his misgivings,
and he's got plenty. Mark Cuban wants to win. Steve
(01:54:07):
ballmer is courtside, always cheering on his team. What can
I do to help propel them is a number one
on him. It's like, I'll give me one of those
guys any day of the week, even if it fails.
They're out front saying we are trying to win, We're
trying to find that formula. Well that's the thing. Jennie
buss sits courtside and it sits you know, behind the
(01:54:28):
court side fans. After all the time she's available, she's accessible,
but yet when they lose, she wouldn't went into hiding.
It went into a whole and that's the worst thing
that could happen. Well, even now, we still have no
speeches from anybody. We have no we have no I
don't think the schedule o pressor yet for vocal not
as of yet. I've not seen that it hit the
wires yet. It's still a presumed signing. Maybe he's got
(01:54:49):
something in a clause that he'll back out too. Well,
the Lakers haven't announced it. Think about that. We did
a front page column. It ran on a one of
the l A Times in the Sunday paper today on
Mother's Day, ripping them for hiring Flank Vogel. And they
have an announcing hard Frank Vogel. Yeah, that's that's certainly
something next level right there. Let's see the last Lakers
(01:55:10):
social media post. I'm guessing it wasn't from their protest.
Let's see May eight, Maker for a Day at u
c u C L A healths People Animal Connection therapy program,
A big, a big program for sure, but I believe
they did so they have an announced. The magic is
not there. No, they haven't back well, we've been talking
(01:55:32):
about him being a shadowy figure in this whole thing
all the time. Hey, We're coming to you alive from

We've got some live soccer on the pitch, Premier League
going on already in the extra time. I just felt

I mean a perfect pitch. I actually found a a

about the music selection of whoever was our technical producer
that day, and how they'd failed me that in the
course of the show they've been able to get in
an Abba song, but they did not pick Mama Mia.
They'd picked Dancing Queen instead. That that's not failing you,
(01:57:01):
that that's the best song is dancing. But for Mother's Day,
get Mama Me in there. I think anything any of those, well,
any app is always gonna be good. They also did
not get Mother by Dance again. There you go. I'm
not gonna go Mother from Pink Floyd because that's too
dark and depressing. Reminder, Discover alerts you if you find

Bill plash Key run a tight ship when it comes
to the news and information you need, but not Isaac
Lowen drop Keeper first his news with some Shenanigans sprinkled
in aigans are cheeky and fun. So join us as
we go off the rails with Isaac lowin crop Fellas.
(01:58:07):
Isaac got a sports item and a non sports item
for you this morning. The non sports item with an
l A Times connection first overnight. San Francisco Giants pitcher
Derek Holland. Now to give you the backstory on this.
He recently went on the injured list with a left
index finger bone bruise. Heep that in the back of
(01:58:28):
your mind. Here he comes off the injured list, and
on Thursday, at his first start back, Colorado rocks him
for seven runs into and two thirds innings. So last
night he was demoted to the bullpen. Here was Holland
reacting to this last night, including asserting that when he
went on the injured list, it was actually at the
(01:58:49):
behest of the Giants front office and was a fake injury. Listen,
to be honest, I have no idea what they're doing,
and I don't mean that by we're from the front office.
We keep changing a lot of things. I did a
fake injury, so I'm not happy about that, But at
the end of the day, I'm gonna do whatever they
ask me to do now. Speaking to the front office
(01:59:13):
far hand, Anxiety, the Giants new president of baseball operations
is someone who we know very well, obviously down here
in southern California from his time with the Dodgers. Anxiety,
in response, told the San Francisco Chronicle quote, his use
of the word fake probably comes from him feeling he
could continue to pitch with it unquote. Yes, well, I
(01:59:38):
have seen this in person. I have seen players who
were on the d L for the Dodgers under Zieties
time there, who are on the d L ten d
d L out of nowhere with like a like a
store hamstring. They'd be running in the clubouse. They would
see us. They would limp across the player in front
of the media, laughing. They would limp. One player in
(01:59:58):
particularly would limp laugh knowing what he was doing. It was.
It's Derrick Collins, completely right. They completely fake injuries. And
you know that that's why they they cracked down on
the whole thing because they're totally fake injuries. Well, that's
what's great about this. Rob Manford's too worried about pace
of play to do anything, so this will just be
laughed at and they'll move on. The Dodgers would fake
(02:00:19):
injuries in order to get pictures in line or to
give them extra rest. There you go. What's the other
this involves the l A Times. It actually has a
connection to Plashky's newspaper. A world renowned chef was interrogated
for five hours at l a X this week for
trying to bring forty piranhas into the country. Peruvian chef
(02:00:41):
Verrhilio Martinez landed at l a X with a Douvil
bag full of forty vacuum sealed frozen piranhas that he
planned to serve at L A five star restaurants Somni
and vesper Tin. I've never heard of those places before,
but I guess it's better than the chicker and press
room apparently, but this was a part of the Los
(02:01:03):
Angeles Times Food Festival, the Food Bowl. When customs officers
opened his bag, they were horrified, went into a panic
and escorted him into a private interrogation room. Martinez told them,
I'm doing a special dinner and I'm going to do
a dish I really enjoyed doing. I showed them a
few photos and said, look, this is what I want
(02:01:24):
to do with the Piranhas, and they eventually said, okay,
go ahead. Martinez then said, I told the people at
the Somni dinner, I spent five hours for you, so
you better enjoy it. Unquote Piranhas who knew and in
related news of Lakers hired Jason Kiddashkey with the don't
(02:01:48):
he just made reservations at Somni. There you go. I
wonder what that would cross make that happen. Actually, I
looked up what it costs two and thirty five dollars
for the tasting meal when the just for the tasty
wasn't the full eating meal. Yeah, no, I'm I'm out
on that. You can you can keep it. Hey, Discover

a cliche, but it's so true and every and and
and you know, for so many people, and that's a
(02:03:14):
great day. Every course, every day should be Mother's Day.
I called my mom every day. I'm not even in
my age, but I don't know if Mom's gonna give
you such witticisms like she did when she joined us earlier.
We had a chance earlier for those just joining us.
Bill Plasty's mom came on. I had a turn to
the racetrack later today, So I mean that's kind of
a big deal, stopping down in between handicapping. When she
(02:03:36):
comes out to out to visit me, we go to
Santa Anita, we go to the Mexican restaurant and drink Margarita's,
and I'm always ended up googling over serving alcohol the
senior citizens, and I'm like, Okay, Bill, she's had enough,
We've had enough, let's just go home. Yeah, it's I've
always always doing that calculation, a little calculation. You've got
(02:03:56):
your ride share absoluted. The thing I said, this thing
that's say the most. Mostly when my mom is out
here visiting me, it's come on, mom, time forbid. Because
because we've we've we've part she's a huge party here.
It's so fun to have it a mom who will
a party with you, you know, and then and yet
yet also sit up with you and wait with you,
and cheer for you and scold you and you know,
(02:04:18):
trying to make you better. It's amazing. Well that's to say,
you gotta take the good and the bad. Right, there's
the uh, there's the sugar, and then there's the medicine. Sometimes.
I remember the force feedings of castor oil when I
was a young kid, and not good for anybody. Castor oil.
My mom used to works for about that was soap. No,
there was that too, She put soap on the many
of them. Yeah, we had many a wooden spoon broken
(02:04:39):
off my wide back as as children. But you know
here I am, yeah, no, And I think I told
a little bit of the story before. But my mom worked,
she worked full time, and so my dad. So it
was up to us to like we were like the
original latch key kids. And I'd actually put my little finger,
a little hand through a crack in the door and
unlocked the lock inside the house. Every night after school
(02:05:02):
we had to clean the house up. And that taught
us great lessons. I mean, she worried to this day,
she's concerned that she missed that she wished she was
home for us when we're coming from school. And I'm saying, no,
that made us who we are. That gave us this
our self sufficiency in our work ethic, and it showed
us it also and gave us our view of the
world and empowered women in our eyes too. Is that,
you know? I've never had an issue with that because
(02:05:24):
my mom was you know, it was a little was
the strongest person I knew out work in hustling and
giving you what they had. And thanks to all the
moms out there, whoever you are, birth moms, adopted moms, grandma's,
the neighbor down the street. Uh, anybody that helped take
on that role to help raise us. We say thanks.
We've gone around the room before, but Pastor Sam, our
(02:05:46):
guy are saying, Pastor Sam, what's my He's been passed.
Been a while since I've been called past That used
to be my well old nickname and my old Twitter handle,
the uh oh. I'm very close to my mom. She
runs now our organic farm in Iowa. I her her subordinate,
her her employee for ten years, and she's just the
sweetest woman and she's very considerate of others and she's
(02:06:09):
really cool. She's an old hippie turned nurse, turned lawyer
turned organic farmer, so she's been through it all and
she's I really respect the heck out of her and
she's a great woman. Um. I hope she could live forever,
but I know that that's not going to be the case.
And I'm sure, you guys obviously feel that way. You know,
you want your mom to stick around for as long
as you you can have her, but you will see
so well, So so what you do for for Mother's Day?
(02:06:31):
I sent her a little package she got yesterday of
some fun stuff from Little Tokyo here in l A
and um, she opened that up and I don't know,
we've just been Why wouldn't organic farmer from Iowa want
anything from Little Tokyo. I think my mom loves and
kitchen just camp be stuff and and you know down
in Little Tokyo can find all kinds of fun, you know,
(02:06:53):
chat and I love the word choke and a great
word because that tea is silent. Alright, I'm Billy, and
this is Mikey. What does your mom call you? My
mom calls me Sam or pastor Sam, because she calls
you pastor saying oh yeah, that it came from her.
Because when I was growing up, I was sort of
dad judgmental as a teenager, I would say, yeah, you know,
(02:07:19):
I I sort of you know, just judge e kind
of teenager. And so she started chiding me with the
pastor Sam. But it's it's funny and it's stuck and
so you know, I've I've learned to live with it
and I like it. What's the one trick your mom
gave you that you carry with you today? Oh man,
I would say, um, boy, just liking just doing little
things for people, a little details that that that only
(02:07:40):
you remember and then other people don't expect you to remember,
and trying to carry those out in relationships. And she's
she's definitely passed that on to me. And sensitivity. I'm
also a sensitive person, So that's cool. Mom's Yeah, mom,
Mom's give us all that. She's a godsend. Really honestly,
when you could say that about your mom, then you
had a good mom. Yeah. No, I agree. I mean
you talk about they're not gonna be around forever, and
I live in fear of that day. I mean, I'll
(02:08:02):
be honest with you, I do, is that the day
she's no longer here because and she's cognizant and everything, right, Yeah, yeah,
and that's wonderful. Yeah, she's eighty eight and doing great.
Talking to your age then, and I saw my mom,
I would I would be very appreciative, just as old
and um, you know, I think of my own mortality
more than that of my mom. Sorry mom, how old
your mom? Saying like thirty? No, my mom is my
(02:08:24):
mom is gonna be sixty eight in uh in uh
in August, sixty eight in August, young, young, vibrant woman.
That's young enough. So I hope to have a round
and and running the farm. What else get? No? No hogs, no, No,
life sucks. Just so when you say like a hippie,
you mean like tight tie shirts and drugs and stuff. Well,
she grew up maybe drugs. I don't mean didn't. I
(02:08:48):
guess Mother's Day is a bad time to ask you.
With you it was on drugs. Well, she you know,
she was born into one and grew up during the sixties.
I don't know what people were doing back then. You know,
that's that's her business. But she's a hippie at heart.
You know, she was an environmental defense lawyer, so you
know her core values run deep. So yeah, fantastic Sto.
(02:09:10):
There's Susan's bio right there. We're learning a mom. She
is she listening? No, she's not listening. You sure, I'm
pretty sure we'll still send that tribute to mom on
the farm with your with your next care package. Yes, yes,
little Tokyo. So so she didn't open the package to
say what the hells is? You know she did? It
(02:09:31):
was one of them was like, it was just I'm
not going to get into the contents because they're totally random.
But she loved it, and uh, I was happy. I'm
so horrible making that's all. I'm making fun of your
mother's day present fun drug drug add hippy. But it
all comes back to the same thing, right. Moms are great,
(02:09:54):
Our birth families fantastic. We have our own unique mutant
family here in Fox Sports Radio. Once you're in that
kind of jabs, that's that's the way it works. You know,
we've Sam and I have been working together in hours
odder than this Sam. As we rolled forward, we'll get
back into more mom tributes. We have the Frank Vogel hiring.
(02:10:19):
We'll get into that in about ten minutes. But it's
time to bring in Vince Close, who's got one more
piece of good news for us today. You've got your coffee,
you're reclined in the comfy chair, and the dog is
relaxing at your feet. All that's missing is some background
music and some reading material. Mike and Bill get you
ready for the day. And this edition of the Sunday
(02:10:42):
Paper Welcome backgame. Brother. Yeah, you guys are making me
sound horrible as a son in law. My wife and
I we sent my mother in law some new shoes
and electric toothbrush. Yeah, but shoes are the I mean,
go back to Cliff Clayven. What did you say at
the end that the most important thing in the world
(02:11:03):
right comes down to one thing, comfortable shoes. That's true,
And we did send her some comfortable shoes. My wife
got a bunch of these shoes that are eco friendly,
made out of plastic bottles and stuff like that, so
they're really comfortable. And she was bragging about him my
mother while I was like, I'll take a pair of those.
So we shifted her a pair of those, and U
shifted our nice new electric toothbrush. It has like ultra
(02:11:25):
violet lights on What was the motivation behind the toothbrush.
It's one of those things, you know, that's what it is.
She requested it because my wife had got these for us.
They've got these lights that whiten your teeth and uh
killed bacteria. And so my wife was telling my mother
(02:11:46):
in law about that. She was like, oh, I want
one of those, So we got her one of those.
So all practical gifts, make sure you're done. Your mother
in law about a car, Yeah, well she did just
buy herself a new car, so we're going on that one,
all right. So let's get to the news. We're going
into the home and garden section. Oh I thought you would.
That's good. Yeah, we're going home and garden where cornerback
(02:12:10):
justin Lane. He was drafted by the Steelers last month,
and he knew he would have to do some redecorating
in his home. Apparently from the pictures on this Sports
Illustrated article, his bathroom is decked out in nothing but brown,
skier towels, painted walls, everything is Cleveland browns, Cleveland browns,
(02:12:32):
Cleveland browns. So his father went in took it all down,
but I'll have a picture of it, took it all
away because he's now a Pittsburgh Steeler. So I question you, guys,
is is there any chance that you would ever have
a room solely dedicated to a favorite team. Well, first
of the first of all, I thought you said his
(02:12:53):
bathroom was decorated entirely in brown, and I thought, so,
that's that's not very pleasant site. That the browns is
also Browns is also not a great thing. I can't
I'm looking at it right now. It is. Actually, there's
Brown's towels, there's a bone sitting behind the sink, there's
Brown's pom poms behind the toilet, well, the sticker on
(02:13:15):
the toilet itself, and you've got the stripe right so
it looks like off the uniform, so it's not completely brown.
This young fellow could have retired from football entirely and
they still should have touring this Browns down. Oh, I
think it's horrendous. Oh, I'd go total Northwestern purple. I
guess what if idea of the Browns being in the toilet?
They're literally the tot They still are, I guess there
(02:13:37):
are forever. But if you're a hateful fan, right, you
can enjoy the joke, can't you. So would you ever
decorate your house in a in a any part of
your house and co? Oh, yeah, I'd got Northwestern. I've
got Northwestern purple, no question. Yeah, I mean, I guess
that's the problem me being a sports columnist for thirty
five years is that I just don't have any favorite teams,
so I could I would never do that never enough
to change my house, not even the alma mater South
(02:14:00):
or the old University Edwardsville. Yeah, you know what, I
do have a I do have a cougar, A picture
of cougar hanging to my house. There's all sorts of
other jokes, but it is Mother's Day and it is
a Sunday. We'll leave any cougar jokes. The show Family
Family Show. But why not? Cougar is a fantastic and
why drove past the house or a school here and
going to my daughter's soccer game. Their their mascot is
(02:14:21):
the panda. It could be great to have a panda somewhere. Yeah,
but they decorated, They decorated the colors they paint. They
painted your house and the team color. I did that.
I totally don't take like that Dodger house. Don't you
drive around past here in l A. Yeah, yeah, and
I did. I'm billed with pity if you kind of do.
Don't get a line. Now you're going, no, you can
(02:14:46):
wear the team colors. That's cool, But to paint your
to change your house, and then what if when you
go to sell the house, or if they're trying to
sell the house to a stealer fan. Nobody's gonna buy that,
and you're gonna paint over that before it goes up
on there you go, there's no question about so that's
that's I mean, look, you do a lot of things
to your house that are only for you and for
your family, knowing starring well that you're probably gonna have
(02:15:07):
to shuffle it out before you put it up for sale.
You have a Brown's trash can. I'm sure if you're
gonna put a sticker on the toilet, you're gonna have
a trash pastor. Sam, what what say you have? You
guys seen that flint Stone's house in southern California. That
is like the city is trying to get the owner
to get rid of the I love that, that is,
I heard about it as happy as it gets. And
(02:15:27):
that woman whoever that put a ton of money into
that place, I thought, I think that's great. Should be
allowed to do what you want. Sam had does Fred
drove the car with his feet? There you go? Thank you,
of course, come on, Fred's two feet nicely done? Well,
you know. Odell Beckham Junior went to the met Gal
addressed as Fred Flintstone in his tuxedo it had no sleeves. Yeah,
and his hair was covered. It's one thing that people. Yeah,
(02:15:48):
I thought that was weird. There you go, Well I
wanted to get one more metallet joking. I'm looking at
a Brown's toilet here. Yeah, I'm sorry, I want to
move away. I don't agree with you on that at all. Like, Okay,
there's gonna be many of those things. I think you
and I will find divergent paths along. He's Bill Plasky,
How Mike Carmen. Welcome in. This is Fox Sports Sunday
comedy from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes

Coming up next Yes, the next chapter begins in Los Angeles.
Frank Vogel took the deal. Nobody else would. We talked
about it next year on Fox. At Farmers Insurance, we
know every windshield collision has a unique sound. Beetle bird boop,
(02:16:31):
drone seen it covered it. Dr Farmers, we are Farmers
under written. My Farmers took fire Insurance Exchange and affiliates
products unavlable every state. Welcome back in Fox Sports Sunday,
Mike Carmen alongside Bill Plashkey having some fun with you.
Thanks to our team Chris and Sam and Isaac and
Vince making us sound so pretty this morning, and for
(02:16:53):
all of you hanging out with us for a couple
of minutes on this Mother's Day, glorious day, sunshining across
this country. We get ready for two games seven's coming
up later on. You've got Denver in Portland, You've got
Philly and Toronto. The Joe LM bead maybe a victory
lap if he can go forward, because well he's an
(02:17:14):
entertaining character. You got him and you got your honest
you can have more commercials and more superstardom as you
go for Kawhi Leonards. Should they lose, well, now it
begins what happens on July one and one of those
teams potentially in the mix for his services should he
decide to leave Toronto, the Los Angeles Lakers And after
a long circuitous route with a lot of twist turns, drama, intrigue,
(02:17:38):
Ell Smith and I on our showed Bill we made
a three year drama out of the first year of
the Lebron James era between the Front office, the season
that was and the coaching search. Frank Vogel reportedly will
be that guy to be the next Lakers head coach.
You were not impressed. I laughed audibly in the crowd
(02:18:00):
that I was in. What's so funny, I go, Oh,
Frank Vogel's the new head coach of the Lakers. Yeah,
it's a I think my leader is no disrespect lead
about common early times was no disrespect to Frank Vogel.
But what um And again, this is not a rip
on Frank Vogel, but it seems like, you know, he
doesn't have the gravitas necessary to coach Lebron. And the
(02:18:22):
second part of that is the person who does with
Lebron is Jason Kidd, who was brought in as an
assistant at the same time Vogo was hired as a
as a head coach, which to me is not a coincidence.
Frank Vogel to me, they're setting him up to fail.
They're set him up to be a seat warmer for
Kid within the next year year and a half to
take over Frank Vogel's last two years in Orlando, he
(02:18:43):
lost more games in Walton lost in his in his
last three years with the Lakers. Um he's played Lebron
in the for when he coached Indiana in the conference
finals and conference playoffs for three straight years and lost
the Lebron for three straight years. I just he's a
defensive coach, but doesn't that does that much offensive mindset.
I just don't think Lebron is gonna have the built
(02:19:03):
in respect for him that he would have for Tyler
and Uh. I think that it's just I think it's
it's a mess waiting to happen, a mess that's already happened.
And I mean, who knows, maybe maybe together they can
pull it off. But it seems like to me, him
coming in here is just they have so many voices
in their front office. It couldn't have stide on one coach.
They just they picked two coaches and it's almost like
(02:19:27):
a now and later thing logo for now, kid for later.
And if you have two coaches usually means you have
no coaches. Well no, And that becomes the biggest, biggest question.
Right as much as we can talk about the ten
months that we've had with the Lakers and for all
we know, this becomes a genius higher. Everybody gets along.
Everybody plays a nice sandbox. Lebron James stays healthy. They
get another free agent in right, another big name, whether
(02:19:50):
it's Kyrie Irving or Kawai Leonard or somebody comes and
plays alongside Lebron James. Oh, and all those guys that
are hurt, the young guys that you love so much,
all either have to finally play the basketball that you've
been expecting or they all get dealt for another part
of the machine. Like, there's a lot of things that
have to still fall. Right, So for folks saying, hey,
(02:20:13):
we just wait and take the long view, no, no, no,
no sports talk radio. As a fan, you're worried about today, right,
we have the idiotic protests the other day. I like
the idea of a fan protest, but only if you're
actually joined. Better pull it off. That's like the Clippers.
The Clippers one year did a did a parade to
try to get Lebron James to join the Clippers, and
(02:20:34):
like ten people showed up. Hey, Clipper Darryl and Ben Maller,
our own Ben Mallor were two of them. I mean,
Clipper Darryl was the loudest voice in that Lakers protest.
And we have the Clipper Darryl sound. This might have
been he got more notoriety for coming in because the
Clippers got to the first round of the playoffs and
was able to show up, and clown On has been
(02:20:56):
shunned by even the Clippers before. So I mean, yes,
it's it was just a mess. It was more media
than there were protesters. It was a joke. I'm glad
I didn't go right. It's one thing to say, hey,
we've got this airing of the grievances and we want
to go down the line of here all these problems
that we've had, and they're they're innumerable, there are, there's
a lot of stuff. But it's six years, right, most franchises,
(02:21:19):
most fans of any franchise will go through, and they
will they'll they'll kill for it. The next time the
Leger fans want to do a protest, baby, they say,
y'all come out, show up, manday our guy Clipper Darryl
sounding more like a w W E manager and wearing
(02:21:39):
with the suit. Dice shutter at the idea of a
Clipper Daryl Pool party. I shudder at that notion, but
just the idea that you can have a Clippers fans
come in and go over the top because they made
the playoffs and you didn't. But you could talk about
the front office. You could be mad that Lebron didn't
engage for a year. I could buy that. That's fine.
(02:22:02):
You want to talk about magic walking where there's a
lot of things you can point to, but you still
need to have some united voice. Right. You had some
folks chanting fire Rambus because of stuff that's written about
how much influence that that we we're okay with, you know,
Linda versus there it is which which mus are they
(02:22:23):
talking about? That's well, that's the other part, right is it?
Because Kurt was rumored potentially to be on the staff, right,
and that's where we get into this divergent path of
Tylo said, I'm not taking three years and here's the
staff we want to impose on you, Jason Kidd among others,
and he bristled at the three years was the bigger,
bigger issue from what we've been told, Yes, so, yeah,
(02:22:46):
it was. It was clear because he didn't want to
be considered Lebron's lackey. He wanted to have some stay
in power beyond Lebron, to have some some you know,
credibility beyond lebron Well, and if you're gonna come for
three like you just want, the market going rate is
five years, right, even if you have no one got that.
Luke walk got sacramental right the day after he was fired,
(02:23:06):
you get five years. And even if they just decide
they really just want to pay you off. It's symbolic
of you're at least gonna get some extra compensation for
your troubles here because it will not be an easy
go if things, you know, don't line up and get
straight on the rails towards Title town. So you have
Frank Vogel except not only the three years, but also
(02:23:27):
Jason Kidd on the staff. Look, Tyley also knew the
writing on the wall, right because he did it to
David Blad He was the guy in waiting and did
it in Cleveland. And now you have Jason Kidd, who's
made his ambitions known. Right. We talked about it a
little bit earlier in the show. He's on record when
Luke Walton still had a job of wanting the Lakers job.
They're gonna, you know what it can it's a potential
(02:23:49):
mess that will be a nightmare if they don't sign
a free agent. If they don't sound a free agent.
I think they got a trade Lebron and then this
staff and can start from scratch and maybe they have
a chance. Then maybe we would have a chance. I
don't think he has much, which it would be an incredible,
incredible uh success in victory for him to survive this
his tenure here. Well, it's just it again. Everything's got
(02:24:09):
to break, right, and you still have a vote of
no confidence for the front office, right, I mean you're
still banking on them together and maybe Lebron can recruit
a guy and that the contract gets negotiated that way.
But we know the reputation of Rob Polinka, we know
the vacuum and the inner circle of Genie Buss and
everything that's going on, the Rambises and the contingent that
(02:24:32):
has been traveling for interviews prior to this. That there's
there's nothing to make you believe this suddenly gets fixed. Right,
You still have a very big problem in the blood
clotting of brandon Ingram Kyle Kuzma is good, not great.
Alonzo Ball has got an injury history, and even if
he gets past you know Big Ball or brand and
everything of the first couple of years. You're still talking
(02:24:54):
about a guy that's missed a significant number of games
in his young career. But they do have zoom Bach
and he's oh, wait a minute, they traded him to
the Clippers from Mike Muscala. Yeah for a bag of balls.
Yeah that was terrible. So yeah, they're they're there are
a mess. And furthermore, I heard I was told that
the owner of this the New Orleans Saints, the New
New Orleans Saints, and New Orleans Pelicans, Gayle Benson, who
(02:25:15):
also owns the New Orand Saints, has said she will
not trade Anthony Davis to the Leakers. Now, if Kyrie
leaves the Celtics, the Celtics can't really trade all their
talent for Anthony Davis, So I don't know what the
market for him is. But I was told that, under
no strain, fances were to the Lakers. No. And see
this is where it gets curious, Right, Kyrie irving potentially
to the Lakers or the Nats or the Nicks, what
(02:25:36):
have you. They still have to pay Gordon Hayward some
thirty million dollars for a guy who became a bad,
inconsistent role player this year coming off his injury. He
never found his space and had one game every five
or six to where he was really a piece of
the puzzle. You still have a number of form of
first round picks there in Boston. But you know, does
(02:25:59):
does getting rid of ky Re Irving solved ils? I
think it doesn't mean they're guys that just wanted to
play and they had to stop when he came back
on the court. Isn't interesting Brad Stevens. Suddenly he's not
a genius anymore? Is he? No? And that's I mean
Kyrie Irving more or less said so right when he
extolled the virtues of Mike Budenholzer and how he was
able to change the matchups and make things work in
(02:26:19):
that Ford to one victory over the Celtics and then
down in New Orleans. Right, you hired David Griffin. That's
a good move. He's trying to do whatever he can
to massage the issue with with Anthony Davis. Davis is
still from the report from Pro Basketball Talk quote resolute.
You got to get him out of there. I mean,
he's just he's been nothing but trouble for them since
(02:26:41):
his attitude is terrible. You know, he shows up. You
know that's all folks with a T shirt. You know
he's he's clearly turned on the fans. They did to
get him out of there. I just don't know where
they sent him. I mean, I just don't know where
they And again, even if he could go to the Lakers,
what they have. The Lakers players got exposed last year,
the kids got exposed a lot. I don't think you
know the one could that really emerge with Ingram and
(02:27:03):
he got hurt. Yeah, I don't think they could make
the traded for him anyway. I don't think they want
to trade him. They're out of spite too. She said,
I got enough toys. He can rot here with us
if he doesn't like it. Yeah, so we're gonna be mediocre,
will be medio. But yeah, but I think he he's
still he won't still win may tickets being such a
bad hit. Trade him to Minnesota, there go, there you go.
(02:27:23):
He's mil plash key on Mike Rmen. Great news was
a quick and easy way you could save money. He
could switch to Geico. It always takes fifteen minutes to
see if you can say fifteen percent or more on
your car insurance. Good a guy could dot com and
see how much you could save. Coming up in just
one minute, The NBA Draft lottery is Tuesday. Fortunes will
be made for teams and for players. We'll talk about
(02:27:43):
that next, but first we step over to Isaac Lowan Kron,
who's got what's trending in our sporting universe? Hello, Michael
and Bill. On Saturday, Adrian war Chanowski reported that the
Lakers are hiring Frank Vogel as their new head coach
to a three year deal, with Jason Kidd as a
prominent assistant coach. Now. Typically, as Michael and Bill were
(02:28:05):
discussing earlier. Typically when big news like that leaks out,
the team itself follows with the official announcement shortly thereafter,
typically within a few hours. However, the Lakers are yet
to officially announced the deal. I'm not saying that the
contract doesn't, but you know, usually it's just a few
(02:28:28):
hours later. In fact, as Bill and Michael were talking
about the Lakers Twitter feed, I'm gonna just refresh it
just to make sure we can get up to the
minute here, and I will read the Lakers latest tweet
quote our first four legged Laker for a day. Reps
are Harlow and Pierre Pierre, who visit over a thousand
patients per month through u c l A Health People
(02:28:50):
Animal Connection Therapy program. Unquote, So Harlow and Pierre the
lakers two biggest free agent signings at this point during
the off season. We'll find out if that's the case
in August and the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Saturday night, the
San Jose Sharks defeat to the St. Louis Blues six
to three in Game one of the Western Conference Finals.
(02:29:11):
Baseball Mets in Marlin's postponed today due to weather. The
start of the Orioles Angels game will be delayed by rains.
Still hoping to get that one in. And as we
mentioned earlier, Giants pitcher Derek Holland recently went on the
injured list, and then on Thursday he was rocked by
Colorado in his first start back. Then last night he
was demoted to the bullpen. And here was his reaction
(02:29:33):
about all this last night, including asserting that when he
went on the injured list, it was actually at the
behest of the Giants front office and that it was
a fake injury Listen. To be honest, I have no
idea what they're doing. And I don't mean that by
it's more from the front office. We keep changing a
lot of things. I did a fake injury, so I'm
not happy about that. So but at the end of
(02:29:54):
the day, I'm gonna do whatever they asked me. I do.
Michael and Bill will get back to them in ten secon.
But first a word from Farmers that Farmers insurance. We
know a roof can withstand a lot, one exception being
an airborne car. I've seen it covered it. Dr Farmers
were Farmers under written my Farmers to fire insurance exchange
(02:30:15):
that affiliates unavailable in every state. By the way, this
whole Derek Hollin thing Michael and Bill reminds me of uh.
Back in the day, the NBA actually had an injured
list that I think you needed to be on for
at least ten days. The Lakers had a player named
Slava Medvedenko, Lava who abruptly went on the injured list
with back spasms, and Phil Jackson was asked about it
(02:30:36):
before that night's game, and he said that Medvedenko sustained
the back spasms when he was walking into my office
this morning with a twinkle in his eye. Back to you.
Thank you, hello, thanks for updating us on Mr Holland's
Opus A very good They got it all rolling. Yes,
Richard Dreyfuss Hooper drives the boat Chief He's built plash
(02:30:57):
key one cried at that movie. There you go when
the Sun I don't want to can't do a sportled
alert movie at thirty or three years old, years old,
whatever it is, have at it. When the sun started,
when the sun was able to hear him or it
is able to to the sun was deaf. Yes, So
Mr Holland's Opus, uh music teacher, Yeah, it was awesome
and his love affair with music, trying to create his
(02:31:20):
own but family circumstances that ever, never being able to
just throw caution to the wind. Well, speaking of opus
is maybe not quite so opus is. I'm looking at
some email I'm getting from my column this morning on
Frank Vogel. Readers are complaining that I'm brought up Jason
Kidds guilty plead to domestic abuse in two thousand one.
(02:31:41):
They saying it's too long ago, it was a mistake.
What's gotta do with this coaching? I'm sorry, I gotta
bring that up. Well, in this day and age. It's
part of the resume, it's part of the CV, it's
part of his history, and in it's a different world
than I mean, he's obviously been hired back in the
NBA several times. But when we look at it on
(02:32:03):
the whole, and each city, each franchise is gonna look
at different stories, at different parts of a guy's pass differently.
Does it preclude him from becoming the coach? I think?
I think I think maybe it should. I mean in
this day and age, and with in any day and age,
but now with America more sensitive to these issues, I
(02:32:26):
just think, and I know it's a long time ago,
but I still think you said it's part of his resume,
So I don't defend and if I thought, I'd put
it there wrong and I say that, but but do
you agree. I mean that that needs to be in
a story about Jason Kidd, the first story about him
written about him in our paper coming to the Lakers.
That's got to be part of that. I think it's
part of the discussion, right because you're trying to ascertain
(02:32:48):
as you vet candidates for jobs, and this goes for
the NBA, the NFL, any anywhere. Those pieces of data
are going to be part of the decision making. And
also you're looking at fan bases, advertise, isiser's marketing sales.
I mean, all of it comes into play, right, It's
one big collective. So if that being in his resume
(02:33:09):
is going to put off millions of dollars of say
an ad campaign because of that being in his history,
that might sway your opinion maybe personally and and for
different members of the Laker organization as long as in
the discussions as a assistant slash head coach, because we
all know where this is going. That that you've already
(02:33:32):
you know, vetted that of all right, that was two
thousand one, let's talk about it. You know, was it
an isolated incident? Patterns and behavior, and go all the
way through. I mean we none of us have lived it.
And nineteen years later, you know what what was learned?
Was there a regression? All of those things come into play. Right.
(02:33:54):
We are a forgiving society by nature, but it's one
that I think is fair to bring up in the
process because you have to look at it. For Genie
Buss and for the Lakers brass it's not just about
XS and ohs. It just it can't be in this
day and age. It's their brand, and their brand could
be adversely affected by making this giving this man the
keys to the franchise. But speaking of the keys to
(02:34:16):
the franchise, a lot of teams we'll have the keys
to their franchise turned. On Tuesday, May fourteenth, in Chicago,
the NBA Draft lottery starts at eight thirty Eastern time.
Frozen envelope. Theories abound, right, New York fourteen percent, Cleveland
fourteen percent, they have no coach, uh Phoenix at four
(02:34:41):
nicely done. Those are your three leaders in the clubhouse.
We played the game earlier of who did the Cleveland
Cavaliers interview? I wanted to call him the Browns because
we talked about that brown story a little bit earlier.
But the Cavaliers, you know, interviewed for their head coaching job,
and most of the names you would have never heard of.
Then you've got Chicago at twelve point five, in Atlanta
(02:35:03):
at ten point five percent. Before you get down to everybody,
Lakers with a two percent chance to get the number
one overall pick. The presumption of Zion Williamson for not
only your basketball, for marketing sales and merchand every day. Alright,
So the Knicks get the first pick, they're taking his
zie On Phoenix does Phoenix? Does the first pick go
to zi On? No matter who gets it, where does
(02:35:24):
Phoenix take? John Moran? I think you gotta take Zion
even if because he's not a center, so he doesn't
conflict with DeAndre. Right there, and now we play position
list ball. You go for the best bang for your
buck and for the Phoenix Suns. You know where Monty
Williams chose to be there instead of joining the circus, Well,
he didn't have a chance. They never the Lakers never
(02:35:46):
offered him a job. Did this is we're sure of? Okay,
So Monty Williams is in Phoenix, right, he takes over,
and you still have the wild card that is Sarves.
You never know where that's gonna go. But I would
presume no matter who gets the number one pick. Yes,
they have to be as much as I like to
watch out out of a business for a business standpoint,
you can't be the guy to turn the team to
(02:36:07):
turn down that guy. Well, because that's part of it too, Right,
you're trying to look for your national televised games, trying
to up the antie of your respective teams and look
in this particular draft, very rarely do you have too
high power cities like New York and Chicago among the
teams that could get the number one pick. Now, they've
(02:36:28):
been bad, but they haven't been quite to this level
of an aptitude in a while. But for the Lakers,
it's fun. Should they pull a rabbit out of the hat.
Everybody conspiracy theory, say the Knicks get the number one
You and I just chopping it up. You're like, hey,
what how about this for a crazy theory? What? What?
What do you think? What you get the number one pick?
(02:36:50):
What if the Lakers call them immediately and say, we'll
give you Lebron James for the number one pick. If
you're the Knicks and you think you get a chance
to sign Kyrie, then you you gets this san Kyrie
Irving and have him Lebron New York and you can
win the East. I don't know the Knicks could if
they had Lebron James and another superstar, which they will.
(02:37:10):
They'll have cap space four. They have caps to sign
one this summer. Would I think you make that deal? No?
I like the chaos theory of it. All yes, and
trading Lebron James. Maybe he's not happy about Frank Vogel.
We won't know until the next episode of the Shop.
But maybe there's a way and maybe this is all
(02:37:31):
And I've seen this conspiracy theory starting to make its
really around chat rooms. Maybe they try to make it
an untenable situation to where he taps out and it's
on him. How about that company alive from the guy
I'll never admit that he wants to be traded, but
the world will get out the world. The word always
leaks out, and then you have to try to back
backtrack to the source company. From the Geico Fox Sports

out which way is easier. We finish the show finding
a win in celebrations held across this great land this weekend,
including Mother's Day. We'll get to that next winning at

you on this Mother's day. A couple of games seven's
in the NBA to talk about. We'll make predictions in
a moment. Thanks to Sam and Vince and Ilo and
Chris making a sound so pretty this morning. Thanks to
all of you for taking a few minutes on the
highways and by ways of life, whether you're headed to brunch,
preparing brunch, going to services, coming from service, or maybe
(02:38:56):
just lounging and being lazy, whatever it is, we appreciate
each and every one of you. Find Bill on Twitter
at Bill Plashky. Find me over at Swollen Dome and
Bill's latest column up about the Frank and Vogel hiring.
Still a lot of questions and still waiting for the
Lakers to actually confirm that this is the case. Yes,
I'm I'm I'm waiting for the press conference. It will
(02:39:17):
be quite interesting, but yeah, they'll and who will again,
you're not talked who will be at the press conference?
Will it be Frank Vogan will be there, and we're
assuming Roblink will be there. Will Jason Kid be there,
probably not. Will Lebron James be there. I wish you would.
Would Jennie Bussy be there? I hope she would, probably not.
The Lakers you just never know. I think at this point,
with media wise and public publicity wise, the less is
(02:39:40):
better for them. They just want to get They want
to get back on the court in September and October
and try to win basketball games and try to They
hope these these months fly by. Right now now, I'd said,
as long as you can get past the off season,
right because we're spending all this time in Laker Land
and Lebron James. The only comments we're gonna get from
him probably on the shop are the way movies and
(02:40:00):
just getting to work and hanging with his family. So
nothing to be said there until the draft night, I
would I would assume we get a tweet thanking the
Lakers for drafting whomever they draft. Once that goes down. Uh,
we did get one tweet about the Warriors and Rockets series.
Never underestimate the heart of a champion, going Rudy tom

Janovich to send the Rockets home, so we got that. Yeah,
he's not been that engage. Well, of course he's out.
I don't believe it from not being aged now, you know,
but he's It would be great. It would be great
for the coaches and he'd have to realize this. It'd
be so great for Frank Vogel if Lebronres would send
a tweet and say they made the right hires. I mean,
what's why wouldn't he just do that? Why wouldn't he
(02:40:43):
What is to stop it from doing that? Seriously? Is
it a control issue? Why wouldn't you if you're on
a team for three more years you want to make
the best of If you really want to engage and
enlighten and enriched this team in the city and this
in this program, why wouldn't you tweet out good job
Lakers love the coaches? Well, would seems if you didn't
love them, Why don't it would seem to be a
(02:41:04):
buy in that you'd want to have established? All right,
it's time to find a quick win. Locker room squabble,
struggling teams and no account owners. There's so much out
there to consume that can knock you down harmon shining
a light on the good in sports with a simple mantra,
find your winds now. This being the time of it,
(02:41:28):
great celebrations right round season. Mother's Day today, it's also
a lot of graduations going on, and for one Julian Edelman,
he walked in graduation ceremonies at Kent State University. I
used him as an example. We had a whole host
of other athletes who have done it. I'll prepare the
slide show and put it up. I found this one
(02:41:49):
and pulled it out. One he made the promise to
his parents right for all the time, then sacrifices. They
made class of nineteen. We did it. And then he
was immediately trolled by Tom Brady saying, look, you've got
another record, because that was their joke after the Super Bowl.
It only took you fourteen years to graduate. So to
my mom and I think for all of us as
we went through our academics, that was always put first
(02:42:13):
among uh anything else, from grade school through high school
through college, Scraping pennies, trying to figure out a way
to just push us a little bit further in the
education world school to make sure that project's done, make
sure it's not a half can I say blanked. Yeah,
(02:42:34):
I'll just have blanked effort that you actually go through
the process and get there. So happy Mother's Day. Go
by that next batch of overprized flowers, go stand in
line for brunch. Or maybe not, maybe you cook something
special uh in the privacy of your own home. Either way, however,
you celebrate. Thank you to all of those who helped
(02:42:55):
shape us and make us what we are, for better
or for worse. Uh, we have pre shake you hanging
out with us this morning. Bill Quick, who's winning these
games today? Home Team seven Apricent They'll win, Toronto wins,
Denver wins. I'm gonna take Philly and Denver to be
a little bit difference. Thanks for listening to Fox Sports Sunday,
