Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio, and then there were
four Bucky Brooks, four teams left. It seemed like just
yesterday we were previewing the season and making Super Bowl picks.
But we have four teams left in the NFL playoffs.
The season is almost finished, and it all gets going
(00:21):
tomorrow here on Fox Sports. You can also watch the
game on CBS. But we've got you covered here on
Fox Sports Radio and always from the I Heart Radio app.
As we come to you live from the Geico Fox
Sports Radio studios for fifteen minutes, could save you fifteen
per cent or more on car insurance. Visit Geico dot
com for a free rate quote. There he is, Bucky Brooks.
What's going on? Jonas, what's happening? Now? You are all
(00:44):
you are dressed to the nines. Right I gave you? Yeah,
you went off speed. You're all of a sudden like
Ryan Gosling in the studio here. It's insane Bucky Brooks
all dressed up. Uh. So we've got the a f
C NFC Championship games coming up tomorrow, um. Early gut
(01:07):
feeling on both those games is wide well. The San
Francisco forty nine or Green Bay Packer game is easy
in terms of looked at forty Niners. They they dominate
every matchup except for the quarterback matchup. If you go
down the rosters, you would give the forty Niners checks
in all categories except quarterback. And so, in my mind,
(01:29):
the only way the Green Bay Packers can pull off
an upset Aaron Rodgers is going to have to pull
off one of those magical performances that made us recognize
him as one of the best, if not the best
quarterback in football. In the other matchup, the Kansa City
chiefe versus the Tennessee Titans. Really this is one where
styles make fights, and depending upon whether the Tennessee Titans
(01:50):
can get them can get Kansas City to play their
style where it's kind of a ground and pound, a slow,
methodical game, a game that goes into the fourth quarter,
that he's in their favor. However, if Kansas City is
able to get the ball and get it early and
find their rhythm on offense, they could run the Tennessee
Titans out of the stadium. And now you are a
(02:10):
former Green Bay Packer, um, will you be allowed back
in the state of Wisconsin? If the Packers end up losing,
and it is predicted by Bucky Brooks, who has been
calling the demise of Aaron Rodgers all season long. Will
you be allowed in the state of Wisconsin if that
happens again. I can get back here. I can get
back in. I think I have a whole fat all right,
(02:30):
So you're good. Um yeah, I feel I feel strongest
about Tennessee ball to tend Tennessee Baltimore that they took
care of that last week. Tennessee Kansas City. I think
Kansas City is gonna roll, um, I really do. I think.
I think it's a great run. Um, But I think
tennas I think Kansas City is gonna roll again. I
also thought Baltimore was gonna roll, and you you told
me to calm down and slow down a bit. That
(02:52):
was a bad matchup. I just feel like Kansas City
got their scare. It's like the n c A tournament,
when a higher sea gets a scare early on to
a lower seed. It's kind of a blessing in disguise
to where you rattle their cage a little bit, but
not too much, to where the season's over and you
move on and they end up playing well. I think
Kansas City is gonna play really well in this game.
I think this game will be decided in the first quarter,
(03:12):
and the first quarter will know the outcome because Kansas City,
if they start fast, that forces Tennessee to get out
of their comfort zone. If this is a slow game
for kans City in the first quarter and Tennessee is closer,
they're in the lead, then I think this is a
game that is going to go into the fourth quarter
being a very very tight one. So if I'm Kansas City,
(03:33):
I am trying to throw at Early, hey maker, I'm
trying to stun them. I'm trying to put four teen
points on Tennessee early and make them uncomfortable. No one
has been able to make Tennessee uncomfortable the last three
or four games that they played. We will see if
the kann City Chiefs can do that. Okay, if you
won the coin toss and you're the Tennessee Titans, what
are you doing. If I'm Tennessee Titans, I'm okay deferring.
(03:55):
But if really yeah, I'm okay deffering because like we
still are believing we're gonna play good defense, we're gonna
run the ball or whatever. However, if I'm Kansas City,
this may be the chance where, oh, we want the ball,
and the reason why we want the balls we want
to kind of get it in our turns. We want
to come out fast. Typically Andy Reid's first fifteen to
script is pretty tight to hit you with a bunch
(04:16):
of different things to kind of get you on your heels.
If I'm Kansas City, I want to be aggressive with
my offense very very early. And that's interesting. I would
have thought that it was the other way around. But
maybe I'm thinking about Baltimore to where if you were
playing a team like Baltimore who can win with one style,
get a lead and hold the lead and just grind
the clock. Maybe the approach for Baltimore against Baltimore is
get the ball first, which Tennessee did last week. Unfortunately,
(04:38):
there was an early turnover by Baltimore. A Tennessee didn't
do anything on the opening drive early turnover by Baltimore,
and they were going to go down the field and score.
So I thought it would have been the opposite that
you would want to keep that Kansas City offense off
the field. But is that offense just so good that
it doesn't matter They're going to get their points regardless.
I mean, they're they're gonna find a way to move
the ball up and down the field. Um. And there's
(05:00):
some wisdom to you saying, if I'm Tennessee, take the
ball unless begin to kind of shrink the clock. Uh.
Condensed the game by milking the play clock and running
the football and being effective and getting some first downs.
The only thing about that, and and what I would
worry is the last part of the second quarter, in
the first part of the third quarter. We saw last
week Kansas City score going into the break, score coming
(05:23):
out of the break, and a game that was very,
very tight, a game that was kind of dominated by
Houston the entire game. They go down to in in
a hurry in the second half, and they were never
able to dig themselves out of the hole. Um. We've
talked about this before to where if the Tree in Seattle,
I guess was the first team to really do this,
to where they were able to have a bunch of
(05:43):
talented players on defense and a other skill positions. But
because Russell Wilson was on a rookie contract, they could
do that and pay other guys and they got their
Super Bowl in that window. Since then, they had another opportunity,
but they haven't been able to do it, and it's
clear that their deficiencies on the roster. When you watch
the Seahawks play is in Kansas City kind of in
the same spot. This is two years in a row
(06:04):
they've gone to an a f C title game and
hosted it. You've got My Homes on a rookie deal.
He's gonna be due for a monster contract coming up soon.
If I'm Kansas City, I feel like there's more pressure
on me maybe than anybody else in the playoffs because
you do not know what this roster is gonna look
like after you gotta pay forty million dollars a year
to your quarterback. Yeah, but they already have things in
place to protect them. They have Tyrekyo on the contract.
(06:27):
Travis Kelsey is on the contract. Yes, you're talking about
porking over at a at a minimum forty million per
to Pat Mahomes, But they have some contracts that they
can get out from. Up on the Sammy Watkins will
be entering the last year his deal. If they wanted to,
they could move on from him and allocate that money elsewhere,
and then what will have to happen, they will have
to be a team that is on defense. Two pass rushers.
(06:51):
They can pay two pass rushers, they can pay a
defensive playmaker. But then they're going to have to nail
their picks in the draft because they're not gonna be
able to have a lot of money allocated to that
other ball. How much different is this in the Rams
situation from a year ago. I mean it's it's it's
pretty similar. Very it's very very similar to what the
Rams are going through. And when you get in this
situation where Kansas City is, uh, it's only so many
(07:14):
times that you get an opportunity to go to the
championship game. You have to eventually get past the threshold.
And we're looking at this team and look, the kan
City Chiefs are flawed, but their strengths are so dominant
that you may not even get a chance to attack
their weaknesses, which is their defense. Their offense is so
overwhelming that they can put you in a bad spot.
I kind of liken them to go to State Warriors. Uh.
(07:36):
The last five years, the Golden State Warriors were so
good at having those spurts where they could hit three,
four or five three pointers in a row and a
game to the site goes to blow out status. Kansas CEA,
Kansas City is very similar. Um, I think it's really
really it's tough and a lot of pressure on the
defense facing them to try and keep them containing so
you can keep yourself in the game. And the biggest
(07:58):
flaw for the Chiefs is what just their defense. They
have a tough time stop in the run. And if
Chris Jones doesn't play, they have significant powers. I mean,
we talked about Derrick kim Be going for one a
the last time. Um, Chris Jones isn't there, Like, they
have a huge hole in the middle. And I don't
know if anyone right now can slow down Derrick Kimy.
But the thing that is going to take to slow
(08:19):
down Derrick Henry, someone is going to have to be
the sacrificial lamp, someone in, someone someone in the secondary.
Someone in the secondary is going to have to make
a decision that Look, I know that you may cart
me off and you're gonna have to come and get
me and I'm not gonna know what day is and
all those other things, but someone's going to have to
deliver a big shot to him early to slow him down.
(08:40):
To this point, we haven't seen anyone really take a
shot at him. What do you mean, Earl Thomas said,
nobody was willing to challenge him. Thomas, Yeah, it's all
funny games running unobstructed through the Sir Thomas, the human
draidle in the middle of the field. There a FC
divisional game. Uh yeah, it's funny because in thinking about,
(09:02):
you know, just the sacrificial lamb. Is that a conversation
you guys have openly in the locker room or is
that just something that sort of goes on said, But
you realize when you see your assignment, Oh god, it's me,
you know, I mean, someone is like, you have to
talk about it through the We have to get him hit.
Someone is going to have to hit him. Someone has
to be the guy that um kind of kind of
falls on the sword. And so someone in the back
(09:24):
end one of those safeties, a cornerback when Derrick Henry
turns the corner and he's scaring up, you're gonna have
to close your eyes and you're gonna have to you
have to see if you can take your shot and
maybe and maybe, just maybe you get up. But it's
one of those things where you talk about sometimes you
have to wait through the fire to to be able
to get those shots. It's it's it's something that has
(09:45):
to happen, and it's funny that it happens like tomorrow,
UH will follow UFC Two's kind of like the fight
to that with Cowboy Econo McGregor. Cowboys going to have
to wait through some shots to be able to get
to Cocono McGregor. And so if he can survive and
stand up, you have a chance to ground and pound
him and do some of those things. But if not,
he's gonna go nightnight. So it's one of those things.
(10:06):
How about that, Bucky Brooks, Like you just did first
of all three amazing things here on the show. Number one,
UH suited and booted. I mean, I mean he looks
it's like he's like a Calvin Klein model here on
Fox Sports Radio. The other is you just try to
while the NFL is trying to make the game safer,
you have now instituted the wedge breaker again. That position
(10:28):
is now, according to Bucky Brooks, your job is to
take on the wedge that is Henry and then you
finish it up by previewing UFC two. Come on now,
I mean they're like no stone unturned here on Fox
Sports Radio. All right, he is Bucky Brooks, I'm Jonas
Knoxes is Fox Sports Radio, as we come to you
alive from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up next,
(10:48):
we will find out why one move was made by
one NFL franchise this week. That's next here on Fox
Sports Radio. Damn righty is Jonas Knocks Bucky Brooks here
on Fox Sports Radio, Or might I say the humbly
attired Jonas Knox and the fantastically overdressed Bucky Brooks here
(11:09):
on fs are Bucky Brooks will be on a call
for the NFL p A Collegiate Bowl. Uh coming up
at four o'clock Pacific times, seven Eastern time on the
NFL network. So you can see here Bucky here and
then watch him on the NFL network afterwards. Double do today,
Double duty, double duty. Nothing this man can't do, all right?
(11:30):
Uh So, coming up in a little over ten minutes
from now here on Fox Sports Radio, we will find
out the inside secrets to one of the events going
on in the football world this weekend. We'll have that
for you here. Coming up a little over ten minutes
from now right now, though, always kind enough to spend
a couple of minutes with this here on Fox Sports Radio,
and he is Adam Kaplan, Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider.
(11:51):
You hear him on Sirius x M as well. Adam,
thanks so much for the time Jonas knocks Bucky Brooks.
We appreciate it, guys. Good to be with you about Well,
let's twenty four hours away from the big Sunday. Yeah,
And and I was talking about this with Bucky, and
I was thinking, there's not a whole lot of difference
from a I guess salary structure or roster construction between
(12:15):
the Rams and the Chiefs in that you've got a
rookie quarterback, and I mean the Rams last year. You've
got a rookie quarterback and an opportunity to win a
Super Bowl on a rookie salary, knowing that there's going
to be a massive contract extension coming up around the corner.
Do you feel like Kansas City's feeling and in a
little bit more pressure than people are pointing out, just
(12:35):
based on this being their second consecutive a f C
title game at home. Well, look, they don't have to pay,
they don't have to extend in Mahomes contract, but I'm
sure at Lee Steinberger's agent wants to get that done
as quick as possible. It'll be at least forty million
a year. It could actually clips that that's really what
the c B a expiring after season. Look, we're gonna
(12:58):
have a cap that's well over to a million, and
the quarterback in this case, you could argue that Mahomes
is the best. It's got to be the highest paid
player in the National Football League. Quite frankly, he'll be
the highest paid player in NFL history from per year
standpoint in and a guarantee standpoint so he deserves it.
Remember the extended Tyreek Hill on the off season. They've
extended a bunch of their younger players, but you're right,
(13:20):
that is the one that they're gonna have to figure
out a structure that's gonna work so they could finish
off the rest of the extensions. You know that that
certainly was newsworthy when it came out that it appears
that they're gonna try and get this extension done in
the off season. Something else. They kind of dominated the
news ways yesterday Jason Garrett being named the offensive coordinator
by the New York Giants. Uh, what do you know
(13:40):
about that move? Why is this a good move for
the Giants? It's actually a pretty good effect. I talked
to Garrett a couple of Garret assistants this week because
I knew he was going to interview there. Um, he's
a terrific coach for the quarterback position before. He did
a very good work with Tony Romore early in Tony's career,
very good with footwork and mechanics that that will really
help Daniel Jones. It's actually a good move. I I
(14:02):
don't think there's any question about it. Um, you know
he has roots in the North Turner system. That's the
system that he's going to run and un Joe Judge,
I think this is a good decision to the from
the new head coach of the Giants, a guy that
we you know, we talked about before. Not a lot
of people knew about, but he's bringing the name it
a lot of people know. Adam You Adam Kaplan joining
(14:23):
us here on Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider,
Serious x M NFL as well. Um, you know the
NFC East as well as anybody based on being on
the East Coast, covering the Eagles for as long as
you've done it. How close are the Giants to being
legitimate contenders in that division? I think Jonas it's when
you really look at it. Offensively, they have a chance
(14:44):
to be really good. They have to. They have to
just get better talent their offensive line. But from a receiver,
running back, quarterback, and tight end standpoint, they're they're as
good as any really any team in the NFC. There,
there's really really strong there. They're just awful on defense.
The they didn't have a good scheme last two years.
They are mostly non competible the defenses side of football.
That that's gonna really keep them from from being a
(15:07):
playoff team. And now this is this, this is where
Dave Gettleman, the general manager, has got to do a
better job. There's no question he gave up a lot
of draft capital for Lennon Williams, the former first round
pick for the Jets. The alac Ogel Tree trade really
has not worked out as well as they would have hoped.
So they've got to just rebuild the defense. I think offensively,
if Garrett does a good job, this could potentially be
(15:28):
a top ted offense. You know, and in thinking about that. UM,
I want to go back to Dallas. Are you surprised
Mike McCarthy has come out and said that killing moore
is going to call plays for the Cowboys? I am
bucky because most play caller head coaches, at least the
first year they want to call plays, get into a rhythm.
(15:49):
But the fact that he's going to hand them off,
it means he's going to be sort of a CEO
head coach, where she will certainly flocked to the offense
and help more out, but he's going to probably be
more of a management position where would just be managing
the players and his coaches from day to day. It's
it's a little bit surprising. That was probably one of
the biggest surprises this week. Got I didn't see that coming.
I thought for sure he'd call the place, but I
(16:10):
gave him credit. Um. The fact that a guy like
McCarthy has called plays his entire career as a head coach,
and we might remember that he was a forty nine
ers O C and play caller before he went to
Green Bay, it's certainly surprising and uh, but you know what,
Kellen Moore did a great job. That was a big surprise.
That Kellen had. It had only been two years since
he retired. He wanted for one year being a quarterbacks
(16:31):
coach at two years being an o see, and he's
done a great job. Do you think any of that
was Jerry Jones maybe and having his discussion with Mike
McCarthy like, I really want to give this guy another opportunity.
I want to give him another year, groom him, Like,
do you think maybe Jerry was behind the decision to
to keep him and Mike McCarthy went along with it
for whatever their conversation was. No. Actually, the way I
(16:54):
understand that Kellen talking to a couple of the coaches
that worked with him, he actually had opportunities to go
elsewort of be a seat of all plays are certa
in the college level as well. And then what this
did is that this kind of shut that down to
offer him that because look, they had in terms of yardage,
they had the number one offense last season. Certainly you
could poke calls and some of that because something they
(17:15):
were behind and they had to throw the ball pipe
win that they'd like, but the fact matters he did
a great job and they're going to keep that that
side of the football the way it is that that
was that was a bad moman. Mike Nolan. By the way,
Mike Nolan will be their defensive coordinator. The guy had
been a head coach before the Niners, and it's been
a DC before earlier in his career with a couple
of other teams. Uh. You know, Adam, there was a
(17:36):
lot of conversation about chemist Stefanski coming into Cleveland and
then the report before the move was official. We're talking
about maybe you would have to sit down with the
analytics team and talk about game plans and then with
the haslums and those things. What is true and what
is it's kind of made up? About the overpo. Then
it's funny, Bucky, they shot down that the Browns did
(17:57):
Stefanski did. I talked to a high rank executive for
the Browns. Um, it is definitely true, though in terms
of they're going to be analytically driven. UM. Andrew Berry,
who is the Eagles VP of foot Operations, interviewed yesterday.
He's he has a strong analytics background that he played
football at Harvard. UM. I would say that the part
(18:17):
about meaning what the owner is absolutely true. It could
be for an hour. I know of a bunch of
head coaches at me with their owners during the week.
That's not unprecedented. But they completely shot down that Friday
meeting with the analytics people so they could overlook the
overlook the game plan that's been shot down very strongly
by the Browns. How does this stuff get started? I mean, like,
how does this story like that get Who do you think, like,
(18:40):
if you had to if you had to play in
private investigator here, who started that bogus rumor about the Browns?
I think? But here's the thing, Jonas, I think part
of it's true. What happens is it gets exaggerated and
given second a third hand. I can't tell you how
many stories I've gotten over the years from people in
a building. By the time it gets to me, it's
different and I'll ask, hey, is this true, because I
(19:01):
want to report this, like where did you get that from?
That's not even remotely close to what we told them? Like,
oh geez, all right, I'm just checking, thank you. You
know that That's what happens. It gets second or third hand.
I made a comment on Twitter which got a lot
of play about, Um, the meeting with the owner is
nothing new. This goes on with most teams, but the
part about the analytics people having to approve the game
(19:21):
plan was absurd. I've never that is so out there
and ridiculous. I I don't know why any coach would
agree to that, and I'm sure Stefanski. In fact, Stefanski
shot that down he thought it was actually kind of funny. Yeah,
I don't know why any coach would agree to that,
Adam Kaplan, Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider Series x M
NFL Radios while joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, Adam,
(19:41):
what's if you had to, if you had to be selfish,
best Super Bowl matchup that we could possibly get amongst
the four teams remaining is what? Oh not? Forty Niners
and Chiefs. I would absolutely love that two great play callers,
two really good head coaches, and here gets to return
to the Super Bowl. I think that would be great.
Um you neutral site really in Miami? I mean, did
(20:02):
not think anyone have an advantage, and both, by the way,
both great fan bases. It's been certainly a while sits.
The Chiefs have been in a Super Bowl game nearly
fifty years, so that would be pretty special. I would
love to see that. UM Now, now, obviously the one
that probably TV executives don't want to see as the
Titans for obvious reasons. They're not exact an America's team.
(20:24):
But but hey, but but with the Derrick Henry story
has been awesome because every way people think they can't
do it and they do it. That's been the beauty
of all the people not wanting to see and it
keeps happening. You know, it's funny you brought up Derrick
Henry the Tennessee Titans. We have to make decisions on
two players, Derrick Henry and Ryan Tanehill. How do you
expect that to kind of work yourself out? Yeah? I
think it will be. I had one CAP manager telling
(20:46):
me a couple of weeks ago that he thought that
the contract that he would offer a Tannehill similar to
Nick Foles to your structure um over twenty million dollars
per season, you can do that and then be able
to get out of it. Doesn't work, No, Unfortunately, Jaguars
are stuck with his contract because his second year is
fully guaranteed, so they're stuck with him now. The other one,
obviously is Henry. And then what you do is if
(21:07):
you who are obviously they're both important. One of them
is going to get the tag. If they can't get
both done, one of them is going to get a
franchise tag and the other one they'll they'll do all
that they could get done. Knowing John Robinson the GM
at the times, there's no way that either of these
guys walk. Adam last one for me here on Fox
Sports Radio, Adam Kaplan, Fox Sports Radio, NFL in Center
with Bucky Brooks and myself Jonas Knox here on fs are.
(21:28):
You spent a lot of time covering Andy Reid in Philadelphia. Um,
I've heard nothing but good things about I've never met him,
but I heard he's a great guy, and I I'm
I shouldn't be doing this, but I'm rooting for him
to get this done, to win the Super Bowl this
year because I think that's the only thing missing from
him being a Hall of Famer. I think his Hall
(21:48):
of Fame candidacy could be relying relying on what happens
the next two weeks. How do you feel about it?
I am most people are. It's funny. There was a
poll by one of the radio stations here and whatever
South Sins they had, it was rooting for you to
read to win the Super Bowl, which they saw him
when he left here. People wanted him out after the
twelve season, and it's been a really great story. And
(22:12):
you know it's funny how Um some of his coaching
friends saw me he should just take the year off,
and he said, no, I'm not. I got I'm a coach.
I got a coach and that was a great decision.
Adam Kaplan, Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider. You can get
him on Twitter at Kaplan NFL. You can hear him
on Sirius x M as well. Adam always appreciate it. Man,
Thanks so much for the time. We'll talk next week.
Sounds good, guys. Thanks. Jonah Stocks, Bucky Brooks here on
(22:34):
Fox Sports Radio. All right, coming up next, we're going
to get inside information on one of the marquee events
this weekend in the world of football. We'll have that
for you next, but for all the latest from around
the world of sports. Uh. Tom Brokaw, who's on the
updates today here at Fox Sports Radio. How the hell
do they know that I got dish? Mr Broke? Are
(22:55):
you there? Tom Broke? Are you there? All right? Swim
gonna miss there. It is a job Well, Iowa Sam
in a in rare form. Here on Fox Sports Radio,
Tom Broko has been relieved of his duties. Were bringing
the gas man from Dumb Dumb, But we'll just Tom
Broke is the one that we wanted, but unfortunately that
(23:16):
was too much to ask. That's all right, Well we
need Roberto that We'll get Roberto in here. Roberto throwing
the shot. All right, David Gascot, what's happening in the world,
this world? Let's you guys, man, I just listen. Look, look,
(23:36):
I mean look, you you put a quarter in, you
twist it, you expect to get a prize out of it,
and instead you get nothing. You know, it's kind of
a kind of a kick in the groin because you
have history with Chuck E. Cheese. I used to have
some traumatic events. They're back in the day when I
was a kid. They used to have the machines where
you pour out the coins for the video games. And
(23:58):
I don't know if you remember this or not, but
when I was young, you put a dollar in that'd
give you three coins, not four. They'd short change you
every single time, at least the Chucky Cheese down and
Torrance would do that yeah, but you know what, there's
there's nothing you can do about it. And here's why.
Because the parents don't want to be bothered. They're trying
to enjoy a picture of beer. That's why they had
(24:18):
your birthday party at Chuck E Cheese. And if you
step out of line, there's a six ft tall rodent
walking around that's going to scare the hell out of you. Yeah,
it's it's all scare tactic. Chuck E Cheese is scare
tactics for a little kids. Telling you, man, I worked there.
I know, I know what I'm talking about. Good food
though you have good food, I swear to God. Oh man.
(24:42):
Guys will start things off first in the NBA today,
a couple of games they are gonna be putting. Play
Clippers right now, take on the Pelicans in New Orleans.
Leads sixty four to sixty one. Kawhi Learned does have
nineteen points in this ball game. Later on tonight, Portland's
will take the court as well, but they're gonna do
so without C. G. McCollum. He's been ruled that with
a sprained ankle. There at Okay, see this evening, you
(25:03):
are college basketball scene today. Here's Butler drive layoup good wow,
high banking shot off the glasses. Good by Butler. We
talked about Butler being the big play guy among those
four guards. Shows you why they're man. Butler comes from
behind a beat. Oklahoma State the now fifteen and one
this season, seventy five to sixty eight was the final.
Number twenty one. Ohiouse State got blasted by Penn State,
(25:25):
losing by fourteen. Texas comes up a buck short. They
falled at home. Number six Kansas sixties six to fifty seven.
Number twelve West Virginia got spanked by Kansas State eighty
four to sixty eight. Colorado and Arizona underway in the
second half now Wildcats leading by nineteen points, organ trailing
at Washington and then later on tonight, I got talking
about San Diego stage on us UH, the loan unbeaten
(25:48):
team right now in college basketball. I know you love
talking college basketball. I know you love talking about the NHL.
I love you. I know you love talking about golf.
That's my jam. Listen to you give me give me
a trivia question about say Diego State right now? Where
they located in the United States, I don't know. Listen
(26:08):
across the street that I knew you'd appreciate this story.
They have a Mexican restaurant called Los Ponchos. I know
exactly where it's at, Man Rodents, you talk about Rodents
two o'clock in the morning. That place was literal with cockroaches,
like did you not? But the food there was great. Yeah,
I don't know what the rating was. I think it
was like a sea. Well, it's always good to ruin
a business on the air. Here, what does he think?
(26:30):
This is Granada Hills High School? Bagpipes out, baby, unbelievable
sad world up by the way, is that is that
that Jack Nicholson saying that? Wait, which one? How did
they know that? I got games? No, it's the it's
(26:51):
the villain from Dumb and Dumber. I've never seen that
movie here, that's lame. Oh yeah, he's the one that
that choked on the Peppers and restaurant, the rat Peppers. Yeah,
who was really missing out junks? I've never I just
have never seen it. I don't know, never Kim laughing. No,
I just I'm more of a serious individual. Um So
(27:13):
I prefer you got the Aaron Hernana's documentary and que
I am going to watch that. I'm definitely going to
watch just to see, just to see how many times
they've doctored that story postmortem. I mean, one minute like
he's a mass murderer in college, the next minute he
might be gay. Like, I mean, I get your story straight, everybody, like,
(27:33):
what's going on here? It's very weird. Five years, forty
million dollars. And then hey, let me tell you something.
If you want a testament to how well run the
New England Patriots are. They got a mass murderer to
play by the rules while he was in the building,
all right, think about that, Like nobody could control nobody
could control him, but Belichick could And there were no
(27:56):
did he get suspended for any games? There were no
on field issues, right, not of anything. That's nothing, nothing, nothing.
That was a crazy story, all right. So that is
David gascon Jonas sacks Bucky Brooks here from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio Studios. It's easy to say or more
on car insurance with the Geico go to Geico dot
Comic seven Auto. The only hard part figuring out which
way is easier? All right, So Bucky Brooks, you will
(28:20):
be on the call, all right, you will be on
the call seven pm Eastern Time for the NFL p
A Collegiate Bowl on NFL Network. Right now, we've got
the East West Shrine Grant Shrine Game. As a scout alright,
because you're gonna be broadcasting these games. How serious do
scouts and NFL executives look at games like this and
(28:43):
trying to identify players that they feel have potential at
the next level. So the All Star Game does play
a significant role in the evaluation process. So obviously you
take everything um in the regular season that happens that
that carries the most weight, But when you get to
the bowl game ends in the All Star Games, what
it gives you as an opportunity to see hopefully best
(29:04):
on best. You get to see the best players in
the country. You play against the best guys, and you
see them matched up in one on one, you see
them in UH seven or seven team drills, and then
you see in the game UH the East West and
the NFL p A Collegibowl, those games typically feature more
of the sleeper types, more of your developmental types, and
(29:24):
so guys that are coming from small schools, you get
a chance to see them how they stack up versus
big competition, guys who, for whatever reason at big schools
didn't necessarily pop. You get a chance to uh reevaluate
them against light competition, and maybe you find someone who
you may have missed during the regular season. And then
as you go onto the Senior Bowl, it should be
like the premier game, the best of the best competing.
(29:46):
You get to see those guys. Those are the guys that,
um you have high hopes and big expectations surrounding their
uh potential and what they can do at the next level.
And so these games don't necessarily hurt prospects, but they
certainly can help him. As you get another opportunity to
see them play against the best competition, it gives you
an opportunity to elevate them because now you kind of
(30:07):
see a more apples the apples evaluation as opposed to
an apples to orange evaluation. Have you can you recall
about and if I'm putting it on the spot, I apologize,
But can you recall you know? Sometimes I do you
never know? Um do you Can you recall a player
too in one of these shrine games or the NFL
P a collegiate bowl that you maybe had overlooked yourself
(30:28):
and all of a sudden popped and you thought, well,
I didn't see that. Can you think of a guy
who really helped himself in these two games. Josh Norman
is a guy who comes to mind right away. He
played at the East West Shrine game. He came from
a small school, uh Coastal Carolina, chant of Clears. He Uh.
He was a guy who in practices at East West Shrine.
He was the guy who's very active, did a good
(30:49):
job of getting his hands on the ball. Uh Mason interceptions,
made some plays. Uh. He was look, he was talkative
and loud and all that, but he brought a lot
of energy and as you saw him make plays over
the course of the week, you begin to think, like, man,
this dude is a pretty good player. The Carolina Panthers
obviously drafted him, drops him on day three. He becomes
a player, becomes a Pro Bowl caliber player, one of
(31:10):
the players that was in consideration for a Defensive Player
of the Year award. And so that is one of
success stories that um we could point to. Jimmy Garoppolo
was another one that played at the East West play
so well at the East West he got an opportunity
to go to the Senior Bowl. Goes from the Senior Bowl.
Second round pick from the New England Pages. So we
have seen uh several cases of players playing well at
(31:31):
these All Star games helping themselves enhance their draft status.
Anybody we should keep an eye on in the game,
You're gonna be calling tonight the NFL p A Collegiate
Bowl of seven Eastern Time, and the NFL Network. Anybody
that you've studied or done your research on that you
were most interested in watching. So obviously everything is around
the quarterback position, and so at Michigan State brand the work.
He is a guy who is super talented, has a
(31:53):
big arm. However, coaches would tell you just want to
see if he can put the ball and it strikes
on consistently. So if he can show improved the people
that he can stream together completions, he is someone who
could pop coming out of this game. Bucky Brooks, Jonas
knocks here on Fox Sports Radio. You can listen to
this show on the I Heart Radio Apples would come
to you live here from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios.
(32:15):
All right, Bucky Brooks, you gotta get out of here,
but we will be watching make sure you're watching seven
Eastern Time on the NFL Network, as Bucky Brooks will
be on the call for the NFL p A Collegiate
Bowl at seven pm Eastern Time, and you can see
for yourself. By the way, I'm not making this up,
all right, this is like uh like Brad Pitt, uh Denzel?
(32:38):
Was it? Is it? Tyrese? Is that the name of
like who's like Tyson Beckford? Is that one of the models?
I mean, like it's it's yeah, well this and yeah this,
I mean probably wouldn't gone with that one, but yeah,
I mean that's sorry you weren't referencing training day there,
(33:00):
you know, I mean I just want to start. I
would have finished the drop, you know. I mean, may
as well just finished the drop. Let's just cong Hey,
god damn straight. That'll be Bucky Brooks's opening line for
his coverage on the NFL Network later on, So make
sure you check that out and we'll be back next year.
More out of the NFL and a scandal in the
world of sports here on Fox Sports Radio, Jonahs knocks
(33:23):
Fox Sports Radio coming up in a little over ten
minutes from now, I'm more around fifteen minutes from now,
let's be honest here. I don't want to lie to you.
It's the last thing I want to do here on
Fox Sports Radio. Coming up about fifteen minutes from now
here on fs are Uh, a little bit a little
taste of revenge, all right, and I'm a big fan
(33:43):
of it. I'm happy for someone in the NFL. And
we'll have that for you here again a little over
fifteen minutes from now on Fox Sports Radio. Arnie Spanier,
Fox Sports Radio host, Uh, the stinking genius. You hear
him on the weekends with Aaron Torres and then with
Chris plank Are. Spaniard has been threatening a trip to
l A to come see us here at Fox Sports Radio.
(34:05):
And when he comes into the studio, it's like an
F three tornado. He blows through, goes in a straight line,
destroys everything in his wake, and then leaves and you're
looking around going, what the hell happened? Uh? He lives
in Vermont. He is now saying almost for certain that
he is going to be back out to l A
at some point to visit because it is so cold
(34:27):
and Vermont. He just took a screenshot of the temperature
in Vermont. They've got a snowshower. It's zero degrees with
the wind chill and eleven degrees without the wind chill.
I mean that's nothing, Jonas, Okay, I mean it's something cold, something,
But just the idea of of Arnie Spaniard walking out
(34:50):
to go milk the cows in his snow shoes, It's
just it's just a picture I never wanted. I'll be
honest with you, I didn't want it. But now that
I'm starting to think about it, Aren Spanier out there
milking cows uh in the in the Vermont snow is
really really interesting. Cheese farmer. Also, I mean, somebody better
let him know that he doesn't have cows, he's bowls.
(35:12):
Makes me think of a kingpin. All right. I'm just
saying somebody out of give the heads up at some
point a little while to get going. Somebody give me
a cigarette. It takes, you know, just I want to
give him the heads up there. All right, So we
have an update on an NFL scandal. This is a
(35:33):
scandalous store. You had a lot of people standing on
their soapboxes reprimanding Odell Beckham. How dare Odell Beckham steals
some of the shine from those l s U players.
You had people coming out talking about Odell Beckham handing
out wads of cash. Why does it always have to
be about Odell Beckham? And then afterwards he's in the
(35:54):
locker room and he slapped a security guard on the butt.
Now some people were calling him a cop. Then it
was determined he was a security guard. Now here is
the update. According to Odell Beckham's lawyer, the arrest warrant
has been recalled. That the security guard is not going
(36:17):
to be pressing charges. So whether or not you know
he gave a few bucks and apologized for it, whatever,
bottom line end of story. Did I like the fact
that he would that he slapped the security guard on
the asked no? Do I like the fact that he
tried to clown the guy afterwards? No? He came off
like a little bit of a d bag. I mean it.
Dot's just be honest here, let's call what it is
(36:39):
when you clown somebody because you think you're at a
at a level that's above them. That's how it comes across.
But now that we know that he was handing out
wads of cash Odell Beckham after the game, and now
that we know that he slapped a security guard on
the butt inside the locker room. And now that we
have video of Odell Beckham taking the mega horn, I
(37:00):
believe they call it that the band was using. I
believe it's called a megahorn where you make announcements to
a crap megaphone. Megahorn who cares blowhorn, yeah, bullhorn whatever? Um.
It could be the conch from Last of the Mohicans,
who gives a rip. The bottom line is when you
take one of those devices and try and speak out
of it and you don't really know how to speak
(37:20):
out of it. Now that you see all of that transpired,
I was able to come to the determination on something
here on Fox Sports Radio. I have gotten to the
bottom of this. I have figured out what exactly happened
with Odell Beckham on Monday night at the National Championship game.
We have a live studio band and attendance here. If
(37:41):
we could get a drum roll here from our live
studio band, I've gotten to the bottom of it. I
have cracked the case of Odell Beckham's behavior on Monday night,
and it is he was hammered. He was like he
was ripped. Think about it. If you're a guy out
(38:04):
there in your twenties, if somebody said to you, hey,
remember that one time you got drunk and uh, you
took that mega horn and started trying to talk out
of it in a crowded place. Hey, remember that one
time you saw a really tall guy and decided you
were gonna back him up like you were posting them
up when you saw Carl Malone. You remember that one
time and somebody said, why did you do that? What
(38:25):
would your answer been? I was hammered. I mean, I like,
what do you want from me? I mean, we're an
happy hour. They were doing two for ones. Afterwards we
were doing shots. Uh, you know, they came around. It
was it felt like I was in Ensenada, Mexico. There
was a guy whistling and they were pouring tequila down
our throats. I mean, I don't even remember doing that,
but it sounds like something I would do. Like, hey,
(38:46):
you remember when you tried to clown that security guard
at that one place. Why did you do that? I
was hammered. Okay, Hey, remember when you spent way too
much money? You were handing out wads of cash to
people that you didn't even really know. When you were
embracing them and hugging him even though even know him. Hey,
why did you do that? I know I was probably ripped.
I mean, I don't recall it, but I was probably ripped.
Odell Beckham was bombed. I don't need to see a
(39:09):
toxicology report. I don't need to see a breathalyzer. He
doesn't need to need to walk in a straight line
and touch the tip of his nose with his eyes
rolling back. You don't need to do the alphabet backwards.
I don't need to see a damn piece of evidence.
I'll call my shot right now. Oh, del Beckham was hammered,
he was ripped, he was time traveling. That behavior. Wasn't
(39:31):
a guy who was all about me me. I need
to be the center of attention. Is he guilty of that?
Sometimes yes? But what he was guilty of is the
same thing Julian Edelman was guilty of. Julian Edelman thought
it was a good idea to hop out a car
in Beverly Hills. But why do you think he did that?
He was ripped, And I speak from experience. I thought
(39:52):
it was a good idea to take four bud lights
and hang out at a slot machine at the Excalibur,
only to be woken up four hours later by the
cleaning crew because I passed out. It's okay, nothing more
to see here. A guy in his twenties got hammered
in New Orleans. End of story. Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio.
We've got more next here on fs ARE. The guy
(40:17):
is drunk, but there he goes, well, well, well, a
familiar face is back. Everybody. It's somebody that you wanted
to kill off, you wanted to get rid of, you
never wanted to see again. And they said, screw you,
We're not going anywhere. I'll get to who that is
coming up here in just a couple of moments. Jonas

(41:00):
al tove uh last scene, lying on national television and
saying he didn't want his jersey ripped off because he
didn't want to make his wife upset. All right, man,
Jose al To pretends like getting your shirt ripped off
at home plate is like he's getting, you know, like
(41:21):
people are doing body shots off him in MAUI like,
come on, man, your wife's gonna get piste off about that.
I trust me. My fiance is Mexican, all right, she
has got a temper and a half. All right, if
I blow my nose in the wrong direction, I get tasted.
Not even she would get piste off if I got
my shirt ripped off. Okay, come on now, But Jose
(41:43):
Altuve has spoken, and we will have that. I got
it confirmed from Lee to lap our executive producer. For sure.
One we will have Jose Altuve's response to the scandal
in Ajor League Baseball coming up here in just a
few minutes on Fox Sports Radio. Tighten the screws here
(42:07):
on fsr UM. But I did want to start with
somebody that I am very happy for. Let me tell
you something, if you live for ten years thinking that
somebody's your friend, thinking that that somebody's your guy, that
somebody has your back, that somebody's all about the best
thing for you. If you live for ten years like
(42:29):
that only to find out that you're a clown, that
you're a joke to them, that they don't really take
you seriously. Like if you lived that decade and then
at the end of the decade found out, yeah, you
know what, they're not really big fans of mine. In fact,
they don't think I'm any good. They think I'm a clown,
and they made a mockery of my reputation. If you
found out that that person, all right, went on and
(42:54):
right after that happened, bounce back, got on their feet,
dusted themselves off, and got themselves a brand new opportunity,
wouldn't you be happy for him? Like, if that was you,
I'd be happy for you, I swear a guy. Like
if you found out after like nine ten years that
that all of a sudden, the person you loved was
fooling around on you, and then uh, you know, uh,
just a couple of weeks later you found love again,
(43:16):
I would be happy for you because you deserve it, right,
You deserve that love. You deserve a break like that,
Like that's Jason Garrett. How could you not be happy
for the guy. Jason Garrett was made a clown by
an organization that supposedly cared a bunch about him, like
he was made a joke, a sideshow act, by an
(43:38):
organization and an owner and a team that allegedly wanted
nothing but the best interest for Jason Garrett. Yet here
we are, and Jason Garrett, just a couple of weeks later,
turns around and lands himself the offensive coordinator position with
the New York Giants. And I'm happy for him. I'm
glad he got an opportunity because you can say, and look,
(44:00):
if we want to have the conversation that some other
candidates weren't even interviewed for the job, we can do
all that stuff in the off season. And that's all
fine and andy. But the fact of the matter is
Jason Garrett's a brand new offensive coordinator for the New
York Giants. He stays in the division, and the guy
deserves it. You don't have to think he's a great coach.
I don't think he's a great coach. I don't put
him in the same category as a Bill Belichick or
(44:20):
an Andy Reid or a Mike Tomlin or some of
these other coaches out there. I don't I don't put
him in that regard, or a John Harbaugh or even
a Sean Payton. But you know what, he's not a
bad coach. In fact, he's pretty good. If you're a
head coach in the NFL for almost ten years and
you're eighteen games over five hundred, guess what, that is
pretty good. But that's a pretty good record. One losing
(44:44):
season to his resume, and this entire year he was
made a clown of they wouldn't commit to him in
the off season. He coaches a lame duck coach, never
bit back on it, never ran his mouth, never complained,
never nothing. Jerry Jones does an interview twice a week
on a local affiliate and Dallas. His son also does
(45:06):
an interview. I'm sure his dog has got an interview
twice a week on animal Planet. The way things go
in Dallas, and Jason Garrett never says a damn thing,
doesn't complain, never cried, never griped. As a lame duck
coach with a roster that's got a bunch of chaos
surrounding it, and he never complained one time, never talked
(45:29):
about the situation, always came in, did his job and
kept his mouth shut while everybody else shot their mouse off.
He never said a damn thing. You had people mocking
him on national television saying, all he does, his clap,
he doesn't do anything for this team. He doesn't do
and then he gets canned afterwards, they take forever to
do it. Then they try and spin it as well,
(45:49):
that's what Jason Garrett wanted. BS, I'm not buying it.
They took advantage of him, and they took advantage of
his loyalty and how nice a guy he was. And
so the fact that Jason Garrett is going to get
an opportunity and he's gonna be the offensive coordinator for
the New York Giants, I'm happy for him. Good for him,
Like good for him. You don't have to think he's
(46:11):
a good coach. That's fine, but you know what, his
reputation was completely shot after what happened in Dallas, completely shot.
Do you think that you think he's hirable as a
head coach after what Dallas did to him? You think
that that that's a hirable guy as a head coach?
Dallas clowned him like he was a scapegoat, and all
(46:33):
we keep hearing about is how great this roster is,
and he couldn't get done with that roster. That's all
we keep hearing about. Dallas completely clowned him, and so
Jason Garrett gets up, dust himself off, gets back into
the fight and ends up being the offensive coordinator the Giants, who,
by the way, are kind of loaded on offense. Daniel
(46:55):
Jones is a promising, young potential franchise quarterback. Sae Kwon
Barkley my be the most dynamic running back in the NFL.
So it's not like the cupboard's bear. If he goes
in there and they produce, I think that's the track
to get him back to a head coach coaching position.
He could have taken a year off, he could have
done TV, he could have taken a front office roll
(47:15):
at the Dallas Cowboys. He said no, absolutely not, I'm
a coach. I want back in, and he went to
the Giants. And I hope he has success because I
think he deserves it. Jonas Knox here on Fox Sports
Radio again. I get me on Twitter at the Jonas
Knox Also, we cracked the case last hour. Uh listen,
people were trying to get to the bottom of it,
(47:36):
Like I'm not gonna be one of these sports stock
radio hosts that just bloviates about about, you know, situations
in sports and tells you I have all the answers
because I don't. I'm an idiot. Okay, admittedly I'm an idiot.
If you've been listening to Knox Locks on my weekend
overnight show. It was a disaster last week, and I
told you it was going to be. But I think
(47:57):
we cracked the case. Odell Beckham was hammered, all right.
That's why he behaved the way that he behaved. We
talked about it last hour. The security guard is no
longer pressing charges. Whether or not there was a settlement
that we don't know about a hush hush. Here's five
thousand dollars. I apologize. I was a moron, whatever, That's fine.
He was drunk. End of story. We move on and
(48:18):
we figure out what the hell the Browns are gonna be.
That's it, end of story. We cracked the case, all right.
So I did mention this Jose al Tove uh. If
you're not familiar with Jose Altuve, he is a key
ingredient allegedly in this cheating scandal involving the Houston astros
Um and uh Jose Altuve. The latest to come out
(48:40):
of of Houston is that Jose al Tube was wearing
an electronic device and that's the reason he didn't want
his jersey ripped off when he hit his walk off
in the a LCS. And so Jose Altuve has been
hearing these stories about the electronic device and he had
this to say earlier that wasn't I've said, to be honest,
(49:00):
even thought it wasn't true. You know, we all know
that some people made that up. And like I said,
I'm the best thing that happened to me with the
MLB investigate that and you know they didn't find something.
But at the same time, you know, you can't control everything.
You control what you can can control. That's really close.
You know, I'm a bid. Did their investigation, they didn't
(49:21):
find anything. Okay, did they do that investigation? Though? I mean,
like all agree, you know, that seems like something that
would have been brought up. But if enough people keep
talking about it, and if enough keep people keep mentioning
the same thing, they're wearing electronic devices tipping them off
at some point, don't we have to really take a
(49:43):
look at that, not just the banging of the trash cans.
I mean Josh Reddick, you know, like after the game
is like got this little patch on his Like, I
don't know if it's a nicotine patch. I don't know.
If he just walked out of a hospital and forgot
to take off all the chords. I don't no. Maybe
he was getting like uh, you know, ice and stimulation
(50:03):
at physical therapy and they forgot to take off the
little patches. Um, but there was something. There was something
on Josh Reddick's shoulder while he was being interviewed that
he made it a point to take off. Yeah, I've
I've heard the confetti story. All right, yeah, I've I've heard.
I've heard the confetti thing. That it was a piece
of confetti that fell down. Uh. Interesting. I was not
(50:24):
I was not familiar with the fact that confetti was
basically like a praying mantis or a tick that would
suck blood out of your torso I was I was
not aware. I thought confetti was just part you know,
something you buy at a party store that it drops
down out of the ceiling. But apparently for Josh Reddick.
It was on there pretty tight as he tried to
take it off. Um, I just look, man, I just
(50:46):
think where they're smoked, there's fire. And if you believe
that the Houston Astros were using electronic devices, I'm not
gonna fault you for it. I really am not. I'm
not going to say that your conspiracy theorists. If out
of nowhere you come up to me and you say
to me, hey, I have a conspiracy theory, and I say, oh, yeah,
what's that? Okay? I believe that toothbrushes are designed to
(51:15):
be able to see what you eat so that fast
food companies can make more money. Like, if you come
to me with something like that, I'll tell you to
go take your meds. Get out of my face. You're
a psychopath. Right. If if I see you siphoning gas
out of your own car and you tell me it's
a conspiracy theory because you believe that it works better
(51:36):
than coffee, I'm gonna tell you you're a moron and
go straight to the er. But if you come to
me and say I believe the Houston Astros, who have
already been convicted of cheating and banging on trash cans,
and having illegal monitors in their dugout. It's already been proven.
It is a fact. And you come to me and say, also,
they've got electronic devices on their shoulders and it tips
(51:59):
them off. And there's a pitch coming. I'm not gonna
fault you for it. I get it. You lose all
benefit of the doubt. It's done. Benefit of the doubt
is gone. So jose Al tuo of A can say
it's ridiculous. All he wants bottom line is there's enough
people saying the same things, and you look pretty damn
guilty when it comes to not wanting your shirt ripped
off and and some of and the reasoning behind it,
(52:21):
you just it doesn't fit right with me. It doesn't
sit right. That being said, I wanted to be true
for what we do for a living. I absolutely do,
and I'm sorry if it's gonna damage a lot of careers.
This is a wonderful topic for sports stock radio, and
that's really what it's all about. You've got to be
selfish from time to time. Let's go live to our
I have a theory on Josh Reddick's confetti that was
(52:45):
sucking the blood out of his shoulder on National television insider,
Iowa Sam for the latest. Sam. Here's my thing. When
I looked at that picture really closely, or that little
bit of video, you look like it looks like there's
a little bit of a wire going up underneath into
the confetti. I think that's actually just a gold chain
that a kind of gotten pushed the side, and it
(53:06):
looks like tape holding down a wire. But I think
it was just confetti on top of his gold chain.
Ladies and gentlemen, you're brand new manager of the Houston Astros,
Iowa Sam, here, good to spend a couple of minutes
SOX Sports Radio. A right, come on, man, I just
I'm sorry you you lose all benefit of the doubt.
It's done. Like if you think about this, this is
(53:27):
how insane that Like if you just were to take
a step back. I like, sometimes you got to do
this say it out loud thing, and you've just got
to say certain things out loud in order for it
to make sense, like and and and the comparison I
make is this. There was a show on HBO years
and years ago, and it was called True Blood. And
I remember my buddies were all into True Blood and
(53:49):
they loved it, and I said, why do you guys
like True Blood? And they told me out loud what
they liked about True Blood. They said, Uh, well, you
know it's uh it's it's this show about these vampires
and they live in Louisiana, but some of the town
are vampires and some of them aren't, and they all
appear at this restaurant and you have to try and
figure out who's the vampire and who's not. And I
(54:11):
said to him, all right, repeat that back to yourself
out loud, and you tell me how ridiculous that sounds.
And then that'll answer the question why I don't watch
the show True Blood. It's insane. I just say this
out loud to yourself. A Major League Baseball team in
the World Series was banging trash cans and whistling because
(54:36):
they were illegally recording pictures and the signs from the
catcher and tipping off their own hitters by banging on
trash cans and whistling in the dugout in order to
let their hitters know what pitch was coming. And on
top of it, they might have had some sort of
(54:57):
a jumper cable or electronic device attached to their torso
so that it would buzz, like on the movie Casino
when they were trying to illegally read cards, it would
buzz to tip them off when the pitch was coming.
Just say that out loud to yourself, and you tell
me that's not a gift from the sports stock radio gods.
(55:18):
I Dad, it's one of my favorite stories to take
place in the last two three years. I swear to God,
so jose al to be. I'm sorry, man, I'm not
buying it. I think not only was he wearing a
buzzer on his shoulder, I think it was also a
nicotine patch. I think that is going to replace dipping Uh.
Gone with Skull, gone with Redman, gone with Copenhagen, gone
(55:40):
with Kodiak. Players in Major League Baseball will now be
using nicotine patches with wiring attached to it to tip
off what pitch is coming. Next. I can talk about
this story all day, my favorite story in so long.
All right, Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Get me on Twitter at the
(56:01):
Jonas Knox at the Jonas Knox on Twitter. Up. Next,
we will go straight to the scene of the NFC
championship game and a storyline that could be playing out
before your very eyes on Sunday. That's next year on
Fox Sports Radio. Jonas Knox, Fox Sports Radio, coming to
you live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. Coming
(56:23):
up in about ten minutes from now here on FS
are We've got more from the big scandal in the
world of sports. One of the key members of this
scandal is speaking out now, so we will have that
for you here coming up ten minutes from now on
Fox Sports Radio. Right now joining us here on Fox
Sports Radio. A very busy man, so we're very pleased.
A mon and appreciate it. Chris Meyers of Fox Sports.
(56:46):
He will be on the call for the NFC Championship
game coming up tomorrow between the Packers and the forty Niners. Chris,
Jonas Knox, thanks so much for the time. We appreciate it. Well, thanks, Joe,
it's good. Good to be on with you. And yeah,
I'll be on one sideline, Aaron Andrews the other, and
of course Troy Eigman. Joe buck up up in the
boots and it's gonna be a little cooler than than
the normal you think, California, but you know the bay
(57:07):
area of the Santa Clara here, it's gonna be cloudy
and probably in the fifties and maybe done, maybe even
high forties by by the end of the game. Not
that that should happen in effect on the Packers who
came from the cold of last week. Now, did you
call I'm assuming you called a bunch of games or
at least a Candlestick when they were still playing their
games at Candlestick. Correct, Yes, absolutely covered quite a few
(57:28):
as a reporter and sub played by play. But yes,
when we as a as a great Steve Young days,
even going back early when I was at ESPN with
with the the ending part of Joe Montana's career. So yeah,
that was a totally different vibe. You know, the place
really did rock and and and obviously the team had
a lot to do it at the success and you
know this place, Levi Stadium. It's a really nice stadium,
(57:51):
and it's really modernized and in terms of tech connections
and your WiFi and cell phone all that's great, and
the advisor, the the view is excellent. But they just
the team, you know, it seemed very antiseptic for a while.
But this year Kevin called games there from the booth
and I haven't done a game on the field, but
but the crowd has really come alive. I mean it
(58:12):
was it was the lottest it's ever been last week
for that playoff game with the Bikes. I wasn't there,
but according to the players who I talked to the
practice and those who covered the team, and we expect
that it will be the loudest it's ever been in
the new stadium tomorrow. Yeah. And that's what I was wondering,
because if you go back to Candlestick, that was always
a great home field advantage and and it was sort
of a rundown place towards the end, but they had
(58:33):
so many great teams and so much success, and then
you're in Santa Clara. I just wondered how different the
vibe is sort of in the area now that they
have moved, and is it as much of a home
field advantage and and do the Packers have as much
to worry about based on the environment coming in there
for the biggest game of the season. Yeah, I mean,
what the fact you know that they played and last
year earlier in the year was I think we can
(58:55):
separate that from this. This is a different kind of game.
But yeah, there hasn't then much of a home field advantage,
to be honest with you for the forty Niners until
this season. And I've got called games that there's when
they've been on the road and had success, and and
that when they have been home. But I did notice
last week the noise and the fact that the Kirk
Cousins was having, you know, looking at the game holding
(59:16):
the hands over his helmet. It was so loud. You know,
he's seventy tho plus and kind of got an echo
effect here that you know, he couldn't hear the signals
being sent into the into the helmet in a number
of ways. And I thought some of the defensive players
said that really helped. Things helped especially for the defensive line,
which is the strength of this team. Chris Myers joining
us here on Fox Sports Radio. He'll be on the
(59:37):
call for the NFC Championship game coming up tomorrow on Fox.
You can get him on Twitter at the Underscore Chris
Meyers here on FS Are Jonas Knox with you on
Fox Sports Radio, Chris. So, we know Aaron Rodgers has
obviously had a Hall of Fame career. He's won a
Super Bowl, He's been to this spot before, hasn't had
a ton of success. But then you've got the forty Niners.
(59:57):
Is this a do you get the press and that
this is a team that's built to last? Or is
this a we've got a strike while we've got an
opportunity because you never know if you get back to
this point again. Do you mean more from a Packers
standpoint or from a forty nine standpoint? Are they Are
they built for the long run? We know Aaron Rodgers
is going to be successful in the league for as
long as he's playing, But the forty Niners come in
(01:00:20):
Jimmy Garoppolo biggest game in his career. Do you feel
like this Niner team could be around for quite a
while or is this one of these you gotta strike
while you can. Yeah, okay, I'm sorry, I misunderstand that,
because I think the Packers might be one where they're
going to strike. Why they can because Rogers as good
as he's been, and he's a Hall of Famer, but
you know he's on I'm gonna say the downside of
(01:00:40):
his career, but he's in an adjustment period in his
career at thirties, six with with a new head coach,
offensive philosophy, offensive coordinator in a sense, who calls the place.
But yes, I at this team and that's when I
give John lynch and and Kyle Chanan credit for because
it really was for a team that won four games
last year. Yeah, I think it is built a last.
They've drafted in the right areas to the want of
(01:01:02):
the strong defensive line, the pass rush. They have three
running backs that are all very capable, and they have
used them accordingly where he mostart Matt bred I think
Keevin Coleman was the star last week. They had a
kind of the same number of touches in Yard's good
balanced through the year. They have Kittle, who is a
really dynamic player who can be in the running game
or passing game. And then Garoppolo. Obviously the injury to
(01:01:23):
him had an effect on their growth once they made
the trade to to get him, and then they had
an Emmanuel Sanders to help as at a veteran and
wide receiver. So they're relatively and Richard Sherman's a veteran.
He's the mouthpiece in the secondary. But other than that,
they're a young they're young team. I mean their linebacker
plays young. They have Kawon Alexander back. They traded for
D four, So I I think that they're they're in
(01:01:43):
trench and they played you know, Jonas in the toughest
division in football, top to bottom. Seattle me at the playoffs.
The Rams had a winning record and defending Super Bowl champs,
and they took care of them twice, which they needed
to do otherwise they would have been in the in
the playoffs mix. So I think that they're going to
be intent of tough because of the division, but they're
they're gonna be a perennial playoff contender. Now super Bowl.
(01:02:05):
This is a great shot because they are playing at home.
The one thing will caution the forty niner fans about
is their last five games since they crushed the Packers
during the regular season in November. All of their games
and they've won most of them, but they've been decided
in the last play of the game. I mean a
lot of them have been seen nationally. So that Seattle
game they had to come back and win against the Rams,
I called the Falcon game here when they lost at
(01:02:27):
the goal line when Julio Jones held on and that
was a major upset so that they're playing with fire
a little bit there, but I think as a as
a young emerging team, that's given them the experience and
confidence maybe to win those kinds of games, and they're
only two away from being the champions. Chris Myers with
us here on Fox Sport Trading before we let you go.
I saw and you were tweeting about this the Marquee
(01:02:48):
Sports Network. You're gonna be having a role. Tell us
where we can watch you this baseball season. Yeah, it
starts in February and we'll obviously it's an addition. It's
a natural fit for my Fox and FS one responsibilities,
which are with the NFL and a tone of five
hundred and of course whip around in baseball that the
MLB on Fox that we do, but that the cups
(01:03:08):
are starting their own channel Marquee Sports Network. As you
said that the same Clair broadcast is part of that,
and they will have and they've added some other people
as well that they can announce. But I'll have a
smaller role to start in and around my Fox responsibilities
when they need me to do some play by play
and studio hosting. I know, guys like a Lupinello, Rick Sucklip,
We're going to be added to the regular broadcast crew
(01:03:30):
that they had before, Lencasper, Jim Duchees on the on
the TV side. Pat Hugh was of course a legend
there in Chicago on the radio side as well. So
when the channel launches in February, we'll see what the
schedule brings for Cups Baseball. But it's one of the
great brands, not just in baseball, but in all of
sports and and and Ridley Fields one of those special places.
So as someone who's grown up in the business and
(01:03:51):
grown up a baseball fan, it's an honor to be
to be associated. And my love to the broadcasting obviously continues.
So it's it's a home run for me. That's not's
a cliche about it, but I'm glad the opportunity came
along and Fox was able to work with me on
the on the specifics which we're airing out. That's awesome. Well, listen,
I've been a fan of yours for a long time, Chris,
have watched you for a long time, so we appreciate
(01:04:11):
you spending a few minutes of this here on Fox
Sports Radio. You can see Chris Meyers on the sidelines
for the coverage of the NFC Championship game coming up
tomorrow Packers at the forty Niners, and on the Marquee
Sports Network. Coming up, that'll be uh this spring covering
Cubs baseball as they look to get back to the
World Series. So congratulations on all your success, Chris. All right,
(01:04:32):
great now, thanks for having me out and we'll talk
to you anytime to us. Take care absolutely. I get
him on Twitter at the Underscore Chris Myers on Twitter
is where you can find him. Jonas knocks here on
Fox Sports Radio, We've got great news. There's a quick
and easy way you could save money. Switch to Geico.
It only takes fifteen minutes to see if you could
say fifteen per center more on car insurance. Go to
Geico dot com and see how much you could say.
(01:04:52):
All right. Coming up next, we will hear from a
key member of the latest scandal in the world sports.
He is speaking out, so we'll have that for you
next year on Fox Sports Radio. But for all the
latest from around the world of sports, ladies and gentlemen,
open up your ears to the gas Man, David gascon No,
Tom Brokaw. I went back out to lunch again. Man,
(01:05:16):
you just whipped that boy in a into shape and
he responds to you. Uh, I don't think that's what happened. Iwa.
Sam and I have have a great relationship. We worked
together a long time. We can just we can read
each other's thoughts. At this point, we sort of know
where each other is at. It's like your relationship with
Ben Mallory as you try and take Eddie Garcia's job.
I would never want to work overnight got yeah, how boy?
(01:05:40):
What what a terrible gig that would be? Well, I
it's all about It's all about living in the moment.
I'm appreciated for my opportunities and I know you are.
That's that's why you're here right now, right damn straight?
I love my job. Are you trying to say I don't.
I'm just so, you know, you seem like you're very
upset about something. Maybe it's you know, piste off. I
(01:06:01):
don't know what and what happened. You know, personally, I
don't know if you know professionally something happened, but it's
it feels like you're taking out your anger on the
rest of us here at Foxbok. I don't think so
I would never do that to you, okay, saying I mean, actually,
and I thought a cheating scandal would brighten your day
a little bit in Major League Baseball, but apparently not.
It's a dark day in Major League Baseball. Don't you think?
(01:06:23):
Dark day? My ass? For I forget major League Baseball.
I'm talking about us what we do? Are you kidding me? Probably? Yeah,
I'm excited about it. I mean there's plenty of drama.
And how often do you talk about major League Baseball
in the month of January, what the OGAL Championship games?
We don't unless there's a big deal at the Winter meetings.
Nobody's talking major League Baseball around this time of Yeah,
that's exactly it. On that note to the the Houston
(01:06:46):
Astros are looking at a couple of guys, uh, potentially
filling that spot of a J. Hinch. One of them
is Dusty Baker and also Bucks show Waltz. So those
are two guys are looking for that spot with the
Houston Astros as they need a new manager. Meatwall in
the NBA scene today and a couple games that are
being played Clippers and Pelicans at the end of the
third quarter, Pelicans lead one ten to one oh two
(01:07:06):
is to score. Kawhi Leonari has thirty three points in
this affair. Uh looking at CJ. McCollum not playing tonight
for the Portland Trailblazers. He's got a sprain left ankle.
They take on the Oklahoma City thunder college basketball scene today.
Number two Baylor beat Oklahoma State coming from behind. St.
John's gives number eight Seaton Number eighteen Seaton Hall run
for their money, but they came up short, losing by three.
(01:07:28):
Miami got dusted off by Florida State and overtime eighty
three to seventy nine. But number four Florida. Number four
Aubrey got beat by Florida sixty nine to forty seven.
And number six Kansas also trailed big in the second half,
came from behind the beat Texas sixties six to fifties seven. Joys.
You're gonna uh kind of tips for to night you. Um.
(01:07:49):
I think that Cowboys Serrouni is a live dog. I
think he's a live underdog. Um. He's a pretty durable guy.
Great striking Cardio. How's the cars? Carnio is pretty good?
I would I would say it's probably a little better
than uh, um, Connor mcgregors. But we haven't seen Cowboy
in a lot of fights that have gone, you know,
(01:08:10):
gone the distance. But I think I think you know,
And I'm not saying that I did this, but if
you wanted to say bet on Cowboys SERRONI and then
also bet on him to win by submission, it's a
decent payout. I'm not saying I did know. I'm not saying.
I'm saying I think Connor mgregor is gonna win the fight.
But you know, the Cowboys SERRONI is a live dog.
He's a good fighter. Are you touching any of the
other fights as well tonight? I don't know. I didn't
(01:08:32):
they all get canceled because somebody couldn't make weight? Or
is that just one of them? I mean, I just don't. Yeah, Matt,
like think this is it's a problem, man. Imagine. So
there was a fight on the undercar to women's fight,
um that ended up getting canceled because one of the
women came in six pounds overweight. She was six pounds
overweight the legal limit in Las Vegas for you to
(01:08:54):
still be able to fight. I guess they said it
at three, so she was double the allowed amount to
even fight. Uh not not even just saying, you know,
the actual contractual weight that was agreed upon. So her
opponent trained all that time, busted her ass, got in
great shape, did the work, was on weight, flies all
(01:09:15):
the way out to Vegas, pays for her training camp,
and now she's not going to get a check because
the fight's not happening. That's that's terrible. I just the
I feel bad for them. Well the other side too,
you get some of those fighters that just start pounding
diuretics and in order to make weight. Oh you mean, like,
well what about the what about the fighters that that
you know, taken ivy illegally before a big fight? And
(01:09:36):
again I'm not I'm not trying to say that this
that this actually happened or anything like that. Floyd Mayweather
versus Manufacto. I'm not saying Floyd Mayweather did that. Did
I say that? Where is that somebody else in the
road the room, who's who's said that Floyd Floyd Mayweather
used an illegal ivy to hydrate himself before the fight.
It's not allowed in Vegas. I don't know. It was
something else somebody else in the room that said here,
(01:09:57):
I don't know that was interesting. I didn't know. Yeah,
it's so. Yeah, there's a lot of stuff that you're
not allowed. First, I think everybody should be allowed to
use h H. That's how I feel. I think. I
think there's a lot of benefits to h H. I
think you heal faster, abood spinning. Um, I mean it's
not allowed with OS. Yeah. But but now, I mean
(01:10:17):
now we're now we're diving into treacherous territory. But I
mean it's your own blood, that's I know, Um, you know,
is it always your own blood? Though, well, let's ask
Lance Arms from See, let's ask how that went. I
just so I feel, But but I do. I think
McGregor wins the fight. But I think Cowboys Herroni's a
(01:10:38):
live dog. That's what I think. Jonas socks here Fox
Sports Radio from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios, where
it's easy to say or more on car insurance with
Geo A G Dot Comical eight nine four seven Auto.
The only hard part figuring out which way is easier.
It is the most talked about segment that we do
here on the show. Here on Fox Sports Radio, Do
not Go Anywhere, It's yours and about ten minutes from
(01:11:00):
now here on FS are we mentioned it earlier? Jose Altuve,
that name rings a bell. Uh, it's because it probably
rings a buzzer on your shoulder every time you hear it.
As Jose Altuve has now been accused of wearing an
electronic device to tip off pitches after the Astros were
already charged find five million dollars. Uh and Uh, Jeff
(01:11:23):
lou now their GM, A J. Hinch their manager. We're
all fired. So it calls into question. It puts a
big stain on major League Baseball. It is the latest
skid mark in the diaper that is major League Baseball.
And so Jose Altuve, though he is a very bold man,
he stepped up to the plate, so to speak. He
talked with the media earlier today and he is calling
(01:11:45):
his shot. He is making a prediction for the Houston Astros.
Believe me, in the end of the year, everything we'll
be flying. We're going to be in the World Series again.
People don't believe in we will. You know, we will.
Like we made it last year, we will have one
game away up winning it all. You know. I'm copy
for the Nationals. They want everything. They're really good team.
They deserve it, but we've been they were serious again.
(01:12:06):
Maybe with then maybe we're another team. Okay, Um, pretend
that I'm a reporter, all right. I would like to
just just somebody pretend that I'm a that I'm a reporter.
Uh and I've got my hand up. Yes, you over there, Jose,
I have a question for you. Um, are you do
you guys plan on using just sort of a generic
brand or are you going to go with the actual
(01:12:27):
rubber made trash Kansas Time to try and tip yourselves
off on this World Series run, because if he's talking
World series run, you want to go with what worked best.
So what are we talking about here? I mean, are
we talking rubber made? Um? Are we is? Guilden? Is
guild In a trash can? I believe Guilden at some
point I was a trash can at one and one
time or another. I just I want to know how
(01:12:48):
he plans to get back to the World Series if
it's already been proven that that one of the main
reasons why you want a World series is because you
illegally banged on trash cans in the dugout to tip
off pitches, Like, how's that going to happen like it's
a book. It's a bold statement, and they're really motivated.
(01:13:09):
And if the Astros come back and actually win a
World Series and do it on the up and up,
good for them. If they come back and they do it. Uh,
you know, people, we don't know apologies in the media,
but we do have to give credit where credit is due.
Good for them. Listen, I throughout this and I wasn't
you know. I threw this out on my weekend overnight show.
So of course you didn't hear it because you were
either out drinking with friends or sleeping. But um, but
(01:13:32):
I threw this out, and I just think it's at
least worth, you know, looking into I'm not making any
accusations here that would be reckless of me, and I
don't want to do that here on Sports Talk Radio.
But I would simply like to point out that Sports Illustrated, UM,
a few years back, had a cover with George Springer
(01:13:53):
on it that said two thousand seventeen World Series Champs
and it was the Houston Astros. Now, I am not
trying to say on the air that somebody needs to
look into Sports Illustrated to find out whether or not
they were behind some of the buzzers and trash cans
being used. All right, I'm not saying that on the air.
All I'm saying is, I think maybe we should start
digging up receipts uh from certain people at at various
(01:14:17):
times to see whether or not they spent an ormitate
amount of time at ACE Hardware. Al Right, I just
I think that's I think we need to do our
due diligence here and get to the bottom of this story.
I mean, look, a scandal like this, uh, no stone unturned,
all right, we need to crack the case. I believe
I did. I cracked one angle of the case earlier
that I think, Uh, this is actually a good thing
(01:14:38):
for the Houston Astros and Major League Baseball. I think
you're going to see a drop in the number of
guys that use chewing tobacco because I think they're going
to be using a nicotine patch with a wire attached
to it that will tip them off as to win.
A breaking ball is coming. So again, I'm just trying
to solutions here. That's all I'm doing here on Fox
Sports Radio. All right, Jonas Knox here on FS are
(01:14:59):
listen to the show on the I Heart Radio app.
You can find me at the Jonas Knocks on Twitter
at the Jonas Knocks on Twitter. Up next, it's one
of the most I guess anticipated segments we do every
single week here on Fox Sports Radio, and it's yours
next here on FSR, Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio coming
(01:15:20):
to you live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios.
We will have the Iowa Minute ish coming up here
in just one moment here on fs are coming up top.
The next hour here on Fox Sports Radio, we will
dive back into the NFL. An interesting scenario could play
out this weekend in the National Football leagual have that
for a year a little over ten minutes from now
(01:15:42):
on Fox Sports Radio. Uh guy writes in on Twitter,
how about opening a restaurant in Los Angeles name Al
two Bays. The waiters and waitresses will be outfitted with
buzzers that can be wrung to send them to the table.
It's not bad. I love it. That's actually a decent idea.
It's not bad. But don't worry about it. Was confetti.
(01:16:03):
Come on, it's confetti, Like, don't even worry about it. Unbelievable.
All right, it is time for a little something we
do on the show every single week. It's the most
anticipated segment here on Fox Sports Radio during this time slot,
and it's called this Hey got a minute Heaven Iowa,
(01:16:25):
like you give a damn now, presenting the most up
to date happenings from Iowa's four Division one teams, ladies
and gentlemen, thousand pigs. It's the Iowa Minute. Here's Iowa Sam.
Here we go. All right, I gotta go back here,
I got I got thick notes this week, Jonas, what
about your notes? Yeah, we're getting thick notes. Yeah, all
(01:16:48):
notes thick. All right, let's start with this Northern Iowa, Jonas.
The Panthers come on. You know who they are, the Panthers.
Ye listen, if you listen to the Iowa Minute right
here on Fox Sports Radio, you know that you and
I is kicking names and taking asked right now. They
really are fifteen in two and the top of the
Missouri Valley Conference tied with Bradley. And we'll get back
(01:17:09):
to Bradley in a moment. But earlier this week. Last
Saturday at Missouri State, Boom roasted one by twenty three.
Wednesday at home, taking on Valparaiso, Hey, free pizza night
at the McLoud Center in Cedar Falls. How do you
know Boom Toasted put up eighty eight points in the win.
I follow you and I on Twitter and they were like, hey,
come on out. You and I was fourteen in two
(01:17:30):
and we'll give your free pizza. Does you and I
play at the Uni Doome? Did they play football and
basketball at the Unidome? No? They play basketball at the
McCloud Center in Cedar Falls, and they play football at
the Unidome. So so, Northern Iowa has two venues for
their teams, but Syracuse only has one. Yeah, I mean,
I mean the Carrier Domes. What like? Take that all
you broadcasting snobs there you go. Okay, let's move on here.
(01:17:53):
So we are today. We have you and I at
Bradley Peory, Illinois, battle for the top of the Mo
Valley pecking order. That's a five pm Central tip. Uh.
Let's see the Drip Bulldogs. They're not far behind you
and I in the NVC standings thirteen and five overall
in just one game behind. Drake is not in action
until tomorrow, heading to Carbondale, Illinois to take on this
(01:18:14):
Salucys of Southern Illinois earlier this week, win over Illinois
State for Drake in Des Moines. Alright, Jonas, moving on
here Friday night in Iowa City. Terrible weather, bad winter weather,
rolling through basically a blizzard. This always seems to happen.
When I was hosting top twenty five teams, this time
it was number nineteen Michigan. And listen, when you build
(01:18:38):
a good team for Iowa City fans, Iowa fans in
Iowa City, well take it away, voice in Kevin Costner's head,
Oh my god, I hold on here. That was on
Fox Sports one. By the way, I watched a little
bit of that game on Fox Sports One. And of
(01:18:58):
course that field of Dreams dropped, brought to you by
up to the minute Grain prices. Let me tell you something, Jonas.
Ever since that phase one of the Trump Trade deal
went through, that Chinese have been buying lagoons like there's
no tomorrow, all right. If you if you build a
good team for Ava fans, they will show up. They
will show up, rain, sleet, snow. It was all coming down.
Paid attendance over fourteen thousand, Get a load of that.
(01:19:20):
And this guy, Luca Garza Center for Iowa. He has
been putting on a show. Early December. He had forty
four points against Michigan and a loss last night, and
Iowa City thirty three points, seventy seven points in two
games against Michigan. How about that? By the way, he
was named after Luca don Chick. Is that correct? I
don't actually, I think they're about the same age. Really,
(01:19:41):
he might be one year younger than But can't you
confirmed that Luca Garza was named after the Dallas Mavericks
star Luca don I cannot confirm. There are a lot
of Lucas out there. There are a lot of Lucas
out there. Iowa three. They moved to thirteen and five
quickly here Iowa state. They're in Lubbock, Texas, taken on
ranked Texas Teck twenty second. Here's the deal, though, I
(01:20:02):
just went to commercial. That's a deal. You can't say
the score. I saw the score. I think they're done
by but okay, they're only trailing by about eight. Now
this game is just ballooned, balloon to a twenty plus
point deficit. What exactly is the score? Though? Just the
exact score? Like three left man, Iowa stayed a struggling
(01:20:26):
Jonas They are about to go to eight and nine,
and I think one and five or oh and five,
big twelve. Not great. I've been telling people for the
longest time, Larry, you stays he's in trouble. Yeah, yeah,
you've got real problems also known as Steve Prombe okay, whatever,
but you stays. She's still around on campus somewhere, slithering around.
I guess they won't be going to prom. No, they
(01:20:47):
will not be going to prom together. I don't even
know what to make it that. That's terrible. All right,
that's your Iowa minute. Well done, that was good. You
would you You ran the gamut there on Fox Sports Trading. Also,
it must be noted your Iowa long George. It a
monster game coming up this weekend. Alright, I hope. So
we got more out of the NFL next year. Nfs
are So there's a legacy on the line in the
(01:21:08):
NFL this weekend. There's a couple of them. As a
matter of fact, we will get to that. Hear coming
up in just a couple of moments. Jonas Knocks Fox
Sports Radio. You can check out this show on the
I Heart Radio app and on all of our Fox
Sports Radio affiliates wherever. You are taking part in this
program all across the country. We appreciate a few minutes
(01:21:29):
your time on a busy Saturday around the world of
sports as we come to you live from the Geico

fift or more on car insurance. Visit Geico dot com
for a free rate quote if you have tuned into
the program because you are in search. If you are
(01:21:51):
desperate to find out who's winning that uh Calgary Flame
Ottawa senator matchup in the NHL, you can go somewhere else.
We will not have that here on this show because
we are talking NFL, We're talking college football. We've got
a busy NBA schedule happening. There's all sorts of funds off.
(01:22:11):
Oh and those cheaters in Houston, the astros are speaking out.
So there is a lot to get to here on
Fox Sports Radio. UM, right before we dive into the NFL,
I did want to, uh this this should sum up
to you everything that is sports stock radio. Right. This
is so so let me just ask Iowa Sam our
(01:22:33):
technical producer here on Fox Sports Radio. Do you want
the good news or the bad news first? Which which
do you prefer io was Sam, good news are bad?
Am I in some trouble here? I'm just I'm just
I'm just saying good news are bad news? Which one
do you want first? Always go bad news? Al right?
So you want the bad news, bad news bears? Alright,
So good news? Hairs? You had another it's not funny,
(01:22:55):
just the hair like a rabbit. I got your hair
right here, Pal, It's not okay, it's it's uh. You
do the Iowa Minute here on Fox Sports Radio where
you break down everything sports wise in the state of Iowa.
And look, it's a lot of fun. We we we
enjoy it. We're talking. It was college football, college basketball.
You put a lot of time and effort into it,
(01:23:17):
and so I was scribbling notes right up until the
last moment. It gets mixed reviews, all right, it does.
And it got a couple of reviews after you did
the Iowa Minute a short time ago. Um, and this
this should tell you everything you need to know about
sports talk radio. So again, you want the bad news first,
(01:23:38):
Let's do that. Guy on Twitter writes in the Iowa Update,
guy should never be heard on the radio again. Wow, okay, alright,
Well I'm here, right now okay, all right, now just
saying listen, don't kill the messenger. All I'm doing is
delivering the message here on Fox Sports Radio. I do
want the good news. There were no other tweets. No,
(01:24:00):
I'm just said now, gear's a good news. Uh. Jonathan
writes in and loves the Iowa minute and finished off
his praise of the topics that you hit on, including
the grain prices which you update in the Iowa minute,
and then followed it up with a go Iowa in
all caps, so that Sports Stock Radio. Half the room
(01:24:22):
likes you, the other half wishes bad things would happen
to you. In my case, it's twenty five like seventy
five percent the other way. But for you response so
far in the Iowa in it so, I appreciate any
feedback at all. And I will say that I do
want to make a correction that Iowa's Luca Garza is
actually one year older. He's twenty one. Luca don how
(01:24:45):
do you even say, is don don check? Don We'll
go don check, Okay, Luca don check is only twenty
to get that, yeah, and any Luca Garza of Iowa
was named after Luca don Check. We discovered that last
something you have it talked about calling your shot, all right.
Uh so, so if you have any more feedback for
(01:25:07):
us here in the Iowa Minute, um at the Jonah
Socks on Twitter, let us let us know what you think,
all right. So let's let's get into us some legacies
here that are on the line. I firmly believe Andy
Reid um is a Hall of Famer if he wins
a Super Bowl, like it's a done deal. I think
Andy Reid if he wins the Super Bowl as a
(01:25:27):
Hall of Famer, which is why I think the next
two weeks could be critical to the legacy of Andy Reid.
If you're the Kansas City Chiefs and you find yourself
hosting an a f C Championship game for a second
year in a row, and you're a touchdown favorite in
the a f C Championship Game in the second year
and you lose, that's the kind of stuff that sticks
(01:25:52):
with you forever. It's the kind of stuff that's stuck
with Marty Schottenheimer forever. Marty Schottenheimer is right behind Andy
Reid on the all time wins list in the NFL,
and the history of head coaches right behind him. I
mean Andy Reid seven, I think Marty Schotenheimer's eight and
the knock on Marty Schottenheimer, who amongst the top eight
(01:26:12):
most winning as coaches in NFL history. Three guys aren't
in the Hall of Fame. Bill Belichick because he's still coaching,
Andy Reid who's still coaching, and Marty Schottenheimer. Marty Schotenheimer
is not a Hall of Famer because Marty Schotenheimer didn't
have the playoffs success to go along with it. He
was always criticized for Marty ball played it safe. Uh,
you know, didn't adjust and when you get into the
(01:26:33):
postseason it's a different game. Now. Never mind the fact
that Marty Schottenheimer dealt with some of the most heartbreaking
losses in the playoffs, losses that haunted him all the
way into the end. Marty Schottenheimer, who was the head
coach and a successful head coach at multiple stops. It
wasn't just Marty Schottenheimer did well in Kansas City. Marty
(01:26:57):
Schenheimer did was fantastic in Cleveland. Marty Schottenheimer had a
fourteen and two Charger team who had a buy and
home field, who lost in that play in that playoff
game to the New England Patriots on Flukey plays down
the Stretch, Marty Schotenheimer was a damn good coach, a
damn good coach, one of the best coaches the NFL
(01:27:18):
has ever seen. But he's not a Hall of Famer
because people go straight to the postseason. You can call
it lazy if you want, you can call it a
surface take, but right or wrong, that's what people do.
Marty Schottenheimer was not good in the postseason, and because
of that, Marty Schottenheimer is not a Hall of Famer.
He's got two hundred wins in the regular season as
a coach, he worked in almost every spot he was at,
(01:27:42):
but he didn't do it in the postseason. Andy Reid's
kind of on that same path. I love Andy Reid.
I think Andy Jonas knocks Fox Sports Radio comany Alive
from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios coming up in
a little over ten minutes from now here on FS. Sorry,
we will go into the gutter literally here in the
(01:28:03):
world of sports. So we'll have that for a year.
Ten minutes from now on Fox Sports Radio right now.
Always kind enough to join us at this time every
single Saturday here on Fox Sports Radio. He is Bruce Gradkowski,
former NFL quarterback now an analysts for Pro Football Focus. Bruce,
you got me solo. Bucky Brooks is calling a game.
(01:28:24):
He's calling the NFL p A Collegiate Bowl coming up
in about an hour on the NFL network. So it's
just me flying solo, you and I. Man, Nice, what's
up brother? How are you doing this weekend? I'm good?
I mean, can you believe there's only three NFL games
left this season? It's insane, Like, what are we gonna do? It?
It proved by to where you know, the season got
(01:28:46):
here and you're not awesome. And then yeah, now we're
we're talking about the final four right now. So it's exciting.
And I was kind of disappointed today thinking, man, there's
no games on, I can't watch anything, and then but
that we're looking forward to tomorrow's matchups. Yeah, it's gonna
be a lot of fun. Did he did the season
fly by this fast when you were a player or
(01:29:07):
does it seem like when you're when you're you know,
being an analyst and and outside the game, not from
the playing standpoint, that things just move a little bit quicker. Yeah,
I think you know, it's hard because when you're in
the grind, like even these players going to this championship weekend,
you know, you're so dialed in on your day to
(01:29:28):
day focus, right, you know, uh, Wednesday's practice, Thursday's practice,
Friday's a half a day, but you know, a shorter,
faster practice, a fast Friday. You know, uh, a lot
of red zone and stuff like that Saturdays to walk through.
Then you get ready for the game, you know, and
then and then you do it all over again. So
(01:29:49):
you're really doubting that way. So it tends to go by,
I think a little slower. But then all the time
when you're at the end of the season, you're like, man,
this this season flew by, and at this point we're
in the season. Of course, it feels like a different
week for these guys because of you know, being in
this position. But you know I was there at some point.
(01:30:09):
You know that the divisional round was as far as
I went. But you're like, man, like, we're we have
a chance if we win this game. We're in an
FC championship games. So it starts creeping in. It gets
super exciting. Bruce Kradkowski joining me here on Fox Sports
Radio Jonas Knox here on fs ARE, I was I
was saying this about Andy Reid that I think the
next two weeks could determine whether or not he's a
(01:30:31):
Hall of Famer, because I really think the only thing
missing from his career is a Super Bowl, And it
feels like this is as good an opportunity as he's
had in his career over a touchdown favorite at home
against the Titans. Uh, and then you take your chances
when you get to the big game. How do you
feel about Andy Reid's legacy and how could be impacted
this weekend next week? Yeah, And I was just thinking
(01:30:52):
of that because I love Andy Reid and you know,
funny story, you know six Yeah, when he was with
the Egos, that was the only team that airviewed me
at the combine. So Andy reads him behind the desk.
You know, there's a you know, twenty other coaches scouts
in the room. He's eating the bag of potato chips
asking me about my college clothes, and it just really
(01:31:12):
b essen with me, like, you know, really cool and stuff.
So I have a lot of respect for him, But
I was thinking about his legacy is just his career
in general, and for how many players he helped develop
an impact and help them make so much money, but
also help them learn the game the right way. In
my mind, that's where, that's where and why he's a
(01:31:33):
Hall of Fame coach. And I know we you know,
we put a lot of labels on these guys about
winning championships, getting to the Big Dance and winning and
getting that ring for your resume. But I'll tell you
what the amount of players lives that Andy Reid has impacted.
And that's why these coaches do what they do. Yes,
it's it's it's a drug game planning and competing every week,
(01:31:57):
but it it's also because they have a passion that
te and inspire and help develop. And that's where I
see Andy Reid, not only his players, but look at
you know, his staff and his coaching treat So for me,
I really, you know, have a lot of respect for him.
I would love to see him get it done. Um.
And when you look around the rest of the games
(01:32:18):
and or the rest of the team, each team has
a very uh special you know, sature signature stamp on
their season and why it would be special if they
went to the Super Bowl or if they want it,
But when I look at Andy Reid, I think it's
extra special because we look at Dan Marino's career and
when he made it to the Super Bowl young, you know,
(01:32:38):
early on in his career, you're thinking he's gonna go
back a ton, right, and he never was back to it.
And that's why you can never take this moment for granted,
even though it is Patrick Mahomes and we think he's
going to be back at this point. Every year, you
just never know. Bruce Gradkowski, So when Andy Reid was
interview interviewing you and he was having a bag of chips?
What chips was he eating? Do you recall are we
(01:33:01):
like like ruffles lays? What are we what are we
looking at? I want to say lays like it was
like the yellow bag. I don't know why. And then
then I just had the view of like the grease
and the crumbles just you know, going on his like
stomach right there while he's like talking to me. I
heard he's got a great I alread he's one of
the great guys though, like I got a great reputation
(01:33:22):
and you mentioned it. Look think about Michael Vick. Basically
his career was over. I mean he was ostracized, he
was in prison, he was out of the league, and
Andy Reid helped get him another massive contract. Like like
to your point, he really did benefit so many players
in their career um and then even dealing with his
(01:33:43):
own personal tragedy his son dying of a drug overdose
at training camp when he was with the Eagles and
still stayed in the fight, kept coaching, and the fact
that he that he turned around a second franchise after
he did it the first time. I think it's his
impressive a job as he's done in his career. No,
you said it, and that's what I think about. You know,
it's more, it's more than football, right, I mean, you're
(01:34:05):
impacting guys lives. And yes, you know, players in the
NFL get play paid a lot of money to play
a game, and we're very fortunate to be in that position.
But you know, you get to this point not because
you're chasing the money. You're chasing what you're passionate about,
what you love and you put a lot of time
and hard work into it and his coaches, Andy Reid,
(01:34:26):
and what he has done. You said it. I mean
not only on the field, the X and OS part,
but you look at Michael Vick, the situation he was in,
and Andy Reid gives him another opportunity knowing, look, I
played with Michael Vick finishing my career with the Steelers. Awesome, dude.
Uh got to know him. And you know, look, we
(01:34:48):
all f up, right, Jonah, I mean, we all make mistakes,
and just just having the right people around us, he
could love us up, give us that second chance. Second
opportunity is always a blessing. And and you just you
you now that. I mean when you think of Andy
Reid too, it's not just on the field, but it's
off the field of him impacting a lot of players lives.
(01:35:10):
Bruce Gradkowski, former NFL quarterback now an analysts for Pro
Football Focus, joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Of
the quarterbacks remaining in the NFL playoffs, um, if you
had to rank as far as who's playing the best,
you know, whether it's anybody from Mahomes, Tannehill, Rogers, Garoppolov,
he had to rank them based on what you've seen
in the postseason, who's playing the best of the four
(01:35:32):
quarterbacks remaining. Well, you know, you could say they're not
asking Tannehill to do much or you know, Derrick Henry's
run the football over the place, and he is. But
Tannehill is making the necessary plays. Right that big post
against the Raven, the red tight red zone touchdown passed
he through, He's making the necessary places. I don't think
he's playing the best. I look at it be between
(01:35:54):
Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers. I think last week what stood
out to me was Aaron Rodgers in that game, clutch
throw to to Davante Adams a third down in eight
two minutes, in eight nineteen seconds remaining. He sees it's
one on one across the board. He understands if they
get a first down, game is over. So what's he do?
(01:36:15):
He recognizes the matchup, SE's Davantae Adams in the slot
guarded by this you know, short defensive back that he knows.
He could, you know, audible a little bit, give him
a hand signal, and boom they executed the profession. That's
what Aaron Rodgers springs. I mean, at this point in
his career, at this point in the season, it's about
guys making plays. It's about winning those one on one matchups.
(01:36:38):
Coaches can drow up all these schemes they want but
at the end of the day, guys have to make plays.
And when I think of Mahomes and Rogers, that's what
they do. I mean, it's just a natural instinct for them.
Mahomes is special, I mean he he could do it also,
both of those two guys. I mean I look at
Mahomes and I was doing this for Pro Football Focus
this past week, but since two thousand in the eighteen
(01:37:01):
plays of plus yards down kids City's offense, they ranked
first and touched down plus yards downfield thirty one they ranked.
So Mahomes, you know, his explosive plays. And then Aaron
Rodgers in the postseason his passing grade point one, he
(01:37:23):
ranks first. Uh tds of twenty plus yards twelve and
he ranks first. So both these guys in these significant
moments can make plays. Um A last one for Bruce Kradkowski,
former NFL quarterback down analysts for Pro Football Focus with
us here on Fox Sports Radio. Um So you mentioned,
I mean this is in the matchups significant you know,
(01:37:45):
point spreads. If you're a gambler, you know the road
teams are significant underdogs here. And do you give the
Packers to give the Titans any shot on the road
and if so, who's got the best chance to pull
off an upset? Yeah? Mean, this one is definitely tough,
I think, you know, personally, Look, I'm hoping for tight games.
(01:38:05):
I want to see great matchup tomorrow night, and I
have to go with you know, it's very tough because
I could see Tennessee in Kansas City getting that running
game going. Uh Tannehill has to make some plays with
his legs like he did the first time they played
him on third down, scrambling, make it some key plays
from the punkle with his arm and doing it all.
(01:38:26):
They have to run the football. It has to be
complete package. And you know, for Tennessee and Aaron Rodgers
has to do what he does. I want to see
Rodgers not trying to do too much, play how he's
been playing all year. Um. But I think if I'm
gonna have to pick, I'm gonna have to pike Aaron Rodgers.
He's a guy that it's very hard to do against. Um.
But if if any road team has a chance, I'm
(01:38:46):
gonna say Green Bay does. All right, So I gotta
ask you this, Bruce Um. Obviously, I don't know if
you've seen I'm assuming that you have, but um, the
Houston Astros cheating scandal, the sign stealing scandal that's made
the rounds and sports vers um. You don't have to
name names. I'm not asking you to name names or
or to die anybody out here. But what was the
most egregious form of cheating that you can remember in
(01:39:10):
your athletic career that you saw. Man, that's a tough one.
That's a tough one. I don't know. I mean, what
what's to say if you're not you're not trying, you know,
I mean, like you know, I mean, are you know?
Did did you did you get the feeling that maybe
somebody was, you know, a defender, knew a play that
was coming and there's no way he would know that
(01:39:32):
play was coming unless there was some sort of a cheating,
cheating involved. Yeah, you know, I mean, I mean the
thing I think of is when I was in Tampa
Bay my rookie year and we played against the Bears
and Brian or Lacker. He was just such a smart
player that if I aught of older, i'd called something out.
He was started yelling it's going to the left, it's
going to the left. A lot of times too. I
(01:39:53):
don't look at it. I didn't, you know, in any
part think it was cheating. Um, he's just a well
prepared guy. Have sometimes it was I'm thinking, no, actually
we're going right here, so good try. But look, I
think guys are you know they're trying sometimes though, when
you when you have to kind of plan around your
game plan because of cheating. Now that's pretty serious. Now,
(01:40:15):
if you're catching some of their signals, like Aaron Rodgers
signaling to Davante Adam the other day, it might be
on the TB copy. So now all of a sudden,
you know, the Niners from Richard Ferman looking at Rogers
hands singles throughout the season, trying to see if they
could catch any of the pants sing though and Casey
hand singles going a game. I don't think that's cheat.
(01:40:35):
I think that's just being prepared. Yeah, it's doing your research. Yeah,
there is a fine line. There's a big difference between
you know, doing your film study and banging on trash
cans to tip off pictures. I think there's a big
difference there, all right. Bruce Gradkowski get him on Twitter
at b Gradkowski five at b Gradkowski five always a
good follow on Twitter. Bruce will talk to you getting
(01:40:57):
next week. Thanks so much as always. Yeah, thanks, I
like yeah, I like the favorites. Um, I'm more nervous about,
you know, Aaron Rodgers going rogue and just deciding, you
know what, I've delegated all season long. I'm gonna take this.
I'm gonna I'm gonna take us from here. Um, trying,
you know, extra motivation in the Bay Area. The team
(01:41:19):
that didn't draft him, that he wanted to draft him,
that passed on him, that's the one that concerns me.
But but I lou to lean to the home teams
of forty Niners and the Chiefs. No, I love it.
I'm with you though, I'm with you. Yeah, It'll be
a good game regardless. All right, Thanks, we appreciate it.
Bruce Man Jonas knocks here on Fox Sports Radio from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. All right, so we're
(01:41:40):
going to take you into the gutter here on national radio.
All right. Most people are afraid to do this. We
are not here on Fox Sports Radio, so make sure
you stick around for that. That's coming up next for
all the latest so from around the world of sports.
Ladies and gentlemen, Just open up your ears. And your
hearts and welcome in the Great David Gascon, the gosh
Man with all the ladiers from so your buddy Ralph
(01:42:03):
earlier today, I wanted to pass along a high and
a happy weekend to you. Well, thank you very much.
Damn you can bring him back if you'd like. Well, well,
what's wrong? You don't know you don't like doing the show?
Did Yeah? I love doing the show. Very angry get
to do it during the daytime with you. It's it's like,
(01:42:23):
this is like the this is a throwback to when me,
you and Iowa Sam we're doing weekend overnights together and uh,
you know sometimes I feel like some of the content
we still think we're in weekend overnights, guilty of that.
Has Iowa change since his overnight days with you? Yeah,
he's in a better mood, is he? Because he actually
(01:42:43):
I'm sane, he's getting sleep and he's not hung over.
Stop talking about leave that way. That at least got
his own problems. He's still he's still drunk anyway. So
we'll start things off. Guys. In the NBA, there's a
couple of games that are being played Bucks and Nets
right now. Going at from Brooklyn uh Bucks lead right
now twenty six to twenty two. Brook Lopez has six
(01:43:04):
points in that affair. Clippers they got by the Pelicans
in New Orleans one three, one thirty was the final
and regulation. Kawhi Learn had thirty nine points in the victory.
Derk Favors had twenty two and a losing cause. No
c J. McCollum. Tonight for Portland, they traveled to okay
See against the thunder He's got an ankle spraining. College
basketball scene going on right now Central Florida and South

Craton right now on FS one in Providence seventy seven
to seventy four. Jonah spect to you, Thanks Dave. We're

it's easy to save cent more on car insurance with Geico.
(01:43:47):
Go to Geico dot com call eight nine seven Auto.
The only hard part figuring out which way is easier.
UH coming up in about twelve minutes from now here.
On Fox Sports Radio. Um, the ace has been cracked
for an NFL story. All right, we've gotten to the
bottom of an NFL story. We will have that four
year twelve minutes from now on Fox Sports Radio. Right now, though,
(01:44:09):
it is time for a little something we do on
the show called this the Best Stories Flash in the
Gutter with David Gagan, and for that we turn it
over to David Gascon, National Update anchor and the host
of In the Gutter with David Gascon to find out
(01:44:29):
what sort of decrepit material you're gonna take us into
this weekend. How about this one, Jonas, When you went
to college, did you mistakenly take it any class? Well
you didn't knock. Come on, I'm lebron Man. I didn't
need college. Oh really, what the hell? Please? College it was?
It was a type of college, not an actual university.
(01:44:49):
But I guess a vocational school, if that makes sense,
like a broadcasting vocational school. I don't know what you
call it. We're at the Sudan Dave. Listen, how you
just screw this all up? How about this? Iowa put
on your damn microphone. So when you were at Vermont,
did you take any eight am classes I did. Yeah,
(01:45:12):
I took a Spanish class in Advanced Spanish, and it
was that I think eight or nine. Lee, I'm not
gonna ask you because you're in college and didn't go
to class. Um, I bring that up because of this
h L s U obviously national title game they wanted
they beat Clemson. How about this though, jonas Uh classes
were actually canceled on the Monday and Tuesday for obviously
(01:45:32):
L s U fans to attend the national title game
down in New Orleans. Gave the students the opportunity to
make that trip down there in the buy you, but
those classes had to be made up, and they had
to be made up today the next two Saturdays. Students
had to participate in classes. I see, That's what I wondered,
because I saw them when that came out. Okay, so
if you canceled two classes, did they just not have
(01:45:54):
to take those classes? Or they've still got to make
up those are those required classes? And so when are
they going to do and so while they make you see,
it's like a perceived gift, you know people, it's it's
the old sales trick. It's called a perceived gift. You know,
someone will tell you something like, uh, you know, listen, um, look,
normally the lawnmower is five hundred bucks, and if you
(01:46:17):
want the blower as well too, and it's an extra
two hundred bucks, I'll give him to you both for
the five hundred. And you go, oh my god, I'm
getting a deal. And then you go online and you
realize those prices are inaccurate. Uh, they're both already five hundred.
But it makes you feel like you're getting a gift.
It's the old sales trick. It's a perceived gift. And
so it's almost like l s U was like, hey, listen, guys,
you know what, We're gonna let you go to the
(01:46:39):
National Championship game. We're gonna let you go to the
and in fact, you don't even have to go to classes.
Those two classes are canceled that day. Awesome, that's great.
Oh when you get back, the next two Saturdays are
bucks perceived jan February eighth, the day of those classes. Uh,
Joe's how about this one? In in St. Louis, police
popped a guy a couple of days ago. Wo had
(01:47:02):
been posing as a major league baseball player, using his
identity to sell fake memorabilia. That player his name is
Omar Oliveries. Sounds familiar. Yeah, do you know who he
played for? Omar Oliveris. Um, how many guesses do I get?
You get thirty? Alright, I get thirty? Guess the Expos Why?
(01:47:26):
Son of a Yeah, it was the Expo Skidding Jones.
He played for twelve years in Major League Baseball, eight
different teams that included the St. Louis Cardinals, had a
whopping ear a of four sixties seven. He was a
nobody and a guy was impersonating him to to sell
some fake memoriabilia, autographed baseball's the whole nine yards. I mean,
(01:47:49):
did you take any money to think I'd make any
money in his career? Apparently not? Obviously the last right
is he? But he was in By the way, I
got a story about Dexter. I'll tell you off the air.
Why Christ Why? Because I don't want to get fired. Um.
I mean the guy played and made I'm looking at
his at his baseball reference right now. He played like
(01:48:10):
quite a while. I'm trying like, how much money does
a guy like that make? And is because he's a
he's a journeyman pitcher. But I think he has like
seventy something wins um. I mean, I'm just trying, like,
like how much money would he have made again his career,
Like if you had to do like ballpark average, Like
(01:48:31):
how much money you think he made as a middle
reliever journeyman tape of guy, I'd probably say twelve year
period for a guy like that, I'd say ten million
dollars I'm showing here. And this may not be a
hunter pers that accurate. A lot of this might not
have been counted for, but I'm showing thirteen point six.
(01:48:53):
Good for him. It's good. Good for him. But what
did you do to piss it all the way? I
don't know, So hold on, so let me ask you. So,
so the guy who is the guy claiming to be
omar Olive AARs or is it the actual Omar Oliver
he was claiming to be? Yeah, and so omar Olive
airs is where did do they know his whereabouts? They don't.
(01:49:14):
Police actually posted a note on Facebook saying that this
guy had actually used a couple of different tricks online
and obviously to meet these people, saying he'd be loaning
them money as well. But omar Olive is like, like,
is it like you know I can. I'll tell you
a really good story. You want a really good story,
because I swear to God that's the true story. So
(01:49:36):
I used to do tell amarketing at this company years
and years ago. I was still a teenager, and you
would call up UM places and you would tell them
sell them in contoner for their cash registers. And so
you know, you're in this little office and it's got
like eight or nine cubicles, and everybody's on the phone
and you're reading this pitch off the paper. And so
I'm in between calls and one of my buddies was
(01:49:59):
all so working at the job, and so he calls
this golf course because every springtime you call golf courses
on the East coast because they're just getting in and
they're probably low on supplies because they reopened for the season.
And so he calls his place up and he goes UM.
And his his name wasn't the name that he gave.
His name was actually j but he always gave a
(01:50:22):
fake name UM, and so that just for whatever reason,
he thought that was the way to go. So he
calls this guy up and he goes he goes, Hi,
I'm so and so from uh you know this company
here and I'm calling about those ink ribbon supplies. You know,
we can get that shipment out to you. It'll be
there by the end of the weekend. And he goes, Uh.
Guy on the other end goes, who's this and he
(01:50:42):
goes John. Guy goes John. Who my buddy goes John
Denver and they and the guy the guy on the
other end goes, yeah, my name's Merle Haggard. We're not interested.
And I asked the guy awards of like, why did
you say your name was John Denver? He's I don't know.
(01:51:02):
I blamed like that was the only name that came
to mind. I no idea. So I just wonder if
this guy was looking around going all right, Omar and
somebody said Omar one and he's like, Oliver's like he
just said that was his go to Like why don't
Omar vis scal for Christ's sakes, all the names to
put out last one? How about this um royalty no more?
(01:51:26):
But with a little bit of police protection, Um Prince
Harry and her Royal Highness Mary Markle or Megan Markle
are are making the trek from the UK to Canada.
She's a nice woman, yes, apparently. How nice. Well how
about this, someone's fronting the bill for the security detail
jonas seven point six million dollars a year for security,
(01:51:49):
it is reported right now, and Canada right now is
willing to pick up a portion of the tab about
one point three million dollars annually. Now, the best part
about this, you have any three percent of the Canadians
don't want any part of this bill to front to
pay for protection for the security of the royal And
let let me just say so, just fill me in
(01:52:11):
on this because I know we're up against the clock here.
So basically, they're no longer living with the royal family
because they want to do their own thing. Yeah, and
they give up their titles too, So good for them.
They want to do their own thing. What's wrong with that, Well,
there's nothing wrong with it. But also requiring to have
personal protectors with you the entire time as you escape
written to you come to Canada. I think we all
(01:52:32):
know why they hired those personal protectors. They're trying to
keep keep Lee away from her. No, I mean really, yeah,
that's just about listen. Uh that that's uh leaves a
little bit of a funk too. So no, he's not.
He's absolutely not. I could assure you he's not in
a little bit of a fund. Have you asked him
(01:52:52):
how he got here to work today? Lee? How did
you get here to work today? I drove like usual? Yeah,
but what car did you take? My my usual car?
Where's your other car at? It's in the shop. What
shop is my buddy shop? Like? I don't like, what
are you? What are we getting here? I asked Lee
how he got to work today? He says, I don't
(01:53:14):
know where my car is at. Well, he did do
that one time. That was one time. Wow, the crazy
life of LEAs. You never know. He's got a great life.
He does. He absolutely does. Stay away from Megan Marco
League like half of that eight years. All right, Jonas
Knox here on Fox Sports Radio from the Geico Fox
Sports Radio Studios. All right, Coming up next, we will
(01:53:37):
we have cracked the case a major story in the
world of sports. That's next year on Fox Sports Radio.
Jonas Knox here on Fox Sports Radio, coming to you
live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. We will
continue to take a look at the a f C
and NFC championship games. Coming up top the next hour
(01:53:58):
here on Fox Sports Radio already we've got a little
bit of trash and I don't know if it's trash talk,
but um, it's very clear that the Kansas City Chiefs
do not subscribe to the same theory of stay quiet,
let your play do the talking. Uh. It was Tyree
Kill earlier this week who said, uh, you know, uh,
(01:54:20):
nobody can guard us one on one. Um, we're better
than everybody else. And now Frank Clark has also chimed in.
Frank Clark, in talking about Derrick Henry said, Derrick Henry
is not hard to hit. He's just a big guy.
I don't see no difficulty in tackling him, all right,
I mean, you don't see any difficulty in tackling him.
(01:54:43):
That's fine. I know Earl Thomas did. Earl Thomas, who
might be a Hall of Famer, turned into a human
dradle on the field last week as after he shot
his mouth off about Derrick Henry, and Derrick Henry spun
him around real good on national television. So why they
continue to go down this road, I'm not quite sure.
As somebody who likes um, the Kansas City Chiefs minus
(01:55:08):
the seven, I am a little disappointed. In their behavior
because you know, I think that this is an opportunity
for them to get to a super Bowl. Let's just
go ahead and keep it quiet. Let's win by more
than a touchdown, more than seven points. Uh, and let
me be happy for once uh this NFL playoff season. Um. Also,
this was a very controversial moment. Eric Fisher of the
(01:55:30):
Kansas City Chiefs was fined fourteen thousand dollars by the
NFL for on sportsmanlike conduct dumping two beers on himself
while celebrating a touchdown last week against the Texans. Okay,
and I'm just a serious question. It's fourteen thousand, thirty
seven dollars for the fine just for dumping beer on you?
(01:55:53):
What what if you double fist the beers? Is it
more like? Seriously, like, if you dump one beer on you,
it's fourteen thousand dollars. If you dump two on it
shouldn't be twenty eight thousand dollars. And if you actually
drink both beers and do the stone cold Steve Austin,
do you get pop double for that? See? A lot
of this stuff just doesn't make any sense. I think
(01:56:14):
the NFL has really got to get this stuff. Sorted out.
I mean, you know, turned to Major League Baseball. They
know how to sort things out, all right. Jonahs knocks
more coming up next year on FSR A f C,
n NFC Championship game. UM, I feel less confident. I
like both home teams in in in the A f C,
(01:56:35):
n NFC Championship. I feel less confident about the Green
Bay Packers. UM, just based on the fact that at
some point I think Aaron Rodgers is going to go rogue.
I really do. I think Rogers, for the first time
in his career, has delegated, and I think it took
some time, and I think it's understandable. If you're somebody
who trusts your work more than someone else's work, it
(01:56:59):
takes a little bit of time to build up enough
faith in them to be able to accomplish what it
is you're looking for. Um. If you're a business owner,
if you run a restaurant, whatever, If you are a
creative mind, sometimes you trust yourself to get things done
better than somebody else doing them for you. Sometimes it's easier,
(01:57:19):
although it's not in the long run, to do your
work yourself than to have to explain to somebody else
what you want done, and I feel like that's where
Aaron Rodgers is at. I know, I'm like that. Sometimes
my mind works in a way to where it makes
more sense for me to do something than it is
to ask somebody else to do something, whether it's the
show or whatever. In my life. That's just how I am.
Certain people are wired that way. Aaron Rodgers, I think,
(01:57:42):
is wired that way a little bit, and that this
is the first time in his career he's had to delegate.
It's the first time in his career where he's had
to ask for help or rely on somebody else in
order to take some of the load off his shoulders.
And initially, I think that's why he pushed back back.
I think that's why you saw Aaron Rodgers in the
(01:58:03):
off season. You remember the back and forth between in
the media between him and Matt Lafleur. What was it
about audibles at the line of scrimmage? Um? You know,
I want more control at the line of scrimmage. You've
got to remember Aaron Rodgers had been in one offensive
system his entire career. All of a sudden, in one
off season comes in a guy who's got one year
(01:58:23):
of play calling experience. He didn't exactly light up the
league in Tennessee. He's now your head coach. He wants
to run the ball much more than you've ever done
in your entire career, and he's telling you we're going
to do this and it's going to help you in
the long run. Aaron Rodgers pushed back a little bit,
and I totally get it. I totally understand why he
(01:58:44):
would have pushed back initially. Somebody you don't know is
telling you we're doing it differently and it's going to
benefit you in the long run. Aaron Rodgers was always
a guy who used to do it on his own,
and so I think it took a little while for
him to delegate. I think it took a little while
for him to wrap his mind around the idea that
he doesn't have to do everything in the offense and
things are a little bit easier. And the one hesitation
(01:59:07):
I have because of it going into the NFC Championship
game is we've yet to see Aaron Rodgers be Aaron
Rodgers that we knew from previous seasons. All year long.
I really think that he's been keeping a lot of
stuff in the chamber and he's only going to pull
it out for special occasions, and the closer we get
(01:59:28):
to the game, the more I wonder if this is
the special occasion. Look at last week when you needed
Aaron Rodgers to make a put it on the table.
You know what kind of throw. Aaron Rodgers did it
multiple times in that game. If they get down early
and you can no longer rely on just the run
if you're Green Bay. My one hesitation in betting on
(01:59:50):
San Francisco or liking San Francisco in an easy win
when they're a seven and a half point favorite in
this game is the fact that you still got number
twelve on the other side of the football, and I'm
just waiting for him to explode. I'm waiting for him
to come out and play the type of football we've
seen him do it in his career. That being said,
NFC title games have not been nice Daron Rodgers. I
(02:00:12):
mean not nice at all. He's one and two and
he's got more interceptions and touchdowns. So it's interesting to
see coming off the loss earlier this season, motivated on
the road the team that passed on him in the draft.
It'll be interesting to see what Aaron Rodgers does in
this setting. It's gonna be a lot of fun to watch.
He's by one concern. I don't really have any concerns
(02:00:34):
over Kansas City, Tennessee. I think Kansas City got their scare.
You'll see it in the n c A Tournament. You
see it almost every single year. There's a higher seeded
team who nearly loses to a lower seeded team early
in the tournament, and then they go on a roll
from there. It's almost like a wake up call. Rattle
the cage a little bit, not too much to where
(02:00:54):
you're done in your season's over, but you know, hit
him in the mouth, trail at halftime. And then they
come out and they take care of the fifteen seed
or the fourteen seed whatever in the n c A tournament,
and you advance. John Calipari said it best years ago
when he had a really young Kentucky team in the
tournament and they were really good, and they were winning
close games early on. He said, basically, just land the plane,
(02:01:17):
Like this is not about style, it's not about blowing
teams out. Just land the plane. We got a young team,
land the plane, survive in advance and get to the
next round. The NFL playoffs are like that, it's one
and done. You lose your out, so who cares how
it looks, just land the plane. And I feel like
the Kansas City Chiefs got their scare a week ago.
(02:01:39):
They got their cage rattled a week ago by the
Houston Texans. They went down huge in that game, and
they came out and they responded, and they got off
the mat and they blew out Houston. And it was
one of the most impressive offensive performances and comeback performances
that we've ever seen to do what they did that
fast in a game. I said it afterwards, I was
(02:02:01):
exhausted watching that game against Houston. It was like three
different games and one it felt like the longest football
game I've ever watched. It was three and a half hours,
but it felt like the longest football game I've ever watched.
I think Kansas City got their scare, and I like
Kansas City to roll against Tennessee. But then you got,
you know, guys like Frank Clark saying We're not afraid
(02:02:23):
to tackle Derrick Henry and and and players speaking and
and it's a lot more noise from the Kansas City
side than it is the Tennessee side. There was a
lot more noise from the UH from the Baltimore side
than there was a Tennessee side talking about Yeah, you know,
we're actually gonna tackle Derrick Henry. And then it was
Earl Thomas who was real vocal about it. And then
(02:02:43):
Earl Thomas got spun around on national TV by Derrick Henry. Well,
Bucky Brooks who was with us earlier and man, appreciate
all your contributions this year. Super Bowl coming up in
a couple of weeks. Just so you know, based on
your role for Sunday's game, if we win, based on
your role, you won't be a part of the Super
(02:03:05):
Bowl a couple of weeks. Why are you gonna cut me?
Oh no, you won't be medically cleared, because you will
be in essence the wedge breaker, and the wedge's name
is Derrick Henry. Like, what a nightmare. That's a nightmare assignment.
I don't know why Frank Clark is saying what he's saying.
I think Bucky Brooks makes a really good point. You
(02:03:25):
you and Essence have to designate a guy as a
sacrificial lamb to take on Derrick Henry. Look, they're winning
these games. It's it's kind of similar to how Green
Bay won their game last week. You know, they tried
to run the ball, and you depend on Aaron Rodgers
to make big throws when you needed to make big throws.
It's not as egregious, um, you know, as as Tennessee.
(02:03:48):
Green Bay actually was having success down the field. Tennessee
not a lot of success down the field. Derrick Henry
threw a touchdown pass. So there it's kind of a
duct tape and bubblegum together offense. But Derrick Henry three
straight games, the guys going for plus. You've never seen
that in the NFL. It's never happened. It's never happened.
(02:04:10):
And so if you've got to slow down Tennessee, you've
got to identify one part of their team that you
want to take away in order to increase your odds
of success. And that one part of the team is
Derrick Henry. And the one way you may have to
take care of Derrick Henry is designate a player on
your team to be, as Bucky said, the sacrificial lamb,
(02:04:31):
the guy who was gonna be thrown out there, Uh
to lay on the sword for Derrick Henry. And you
just hope that on their first initial hit that he
gets up and he's not in the blue tent moments later,
because that's gonna be the responsibility of the game. Who's
gonna slow down Derrick Henry? I did. There's several prop
bets on both these games and on Knox Locks, which
(02:04:54):
is on my weekend overnight show that you probably don't
listen to appreciate it, But on Knox Locks, one of
my one of my bets is I actually took the
under of a hundred thirteen and a half rushing yards
for Derrick Henry because I think Kansas City is gonna
get up in the game, and I think you're gonna
have to rely on Ryan Tannehill. And I think it
actually coincides with another bet that I made, which is
Ryan Tannehill over fifteen rushing yards in the game, because
(02:05:17):
I think Tannehill is gonna have to scramble and make
plays if nothing's open downfield and you can't turn the
ball over. He's athletic enough. He ran the ball for
thirty seven yards in their first matchup. So those are
a couple of picks that I like. I think Kansas
City rolls man. I just don't like. I just don't
like these guys shooting their mouth out before the game.
It is not worked well for anybody in facing the
Titans in the playoffs. Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio. Get
(02:05:40):
me on Twitter at the Jonas Knocks at the Jonas
Knocks on Twitter. Coming up next year on fs ARE,
it's a scandal that has rocked the sports world and
we will hear from two of the main culprits for
the first time involved in this scandal. That's next year
on FSR. Jonas Knox, Fox Sports Radio, coming to you
(02:06:04):
Alive from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up
in about ten minutes from now here on fs ARE,
we will have the scraps. Uh. We will get to
some things in the world of sports we have not
had a chance to talk about. So that will be
ten minutes from now here on Fox Sports Radio. So
we'll have that for you on fs ARE. Um guy
writes in on Twitter. He ads Connor McGregor on Twitter
(02:06:32):
at the notorious m m A. After you cruise to
a win tonight, how about you use this s talking
fake tough guy bleep Jonas Knox as your next tune
up before your next fight. That's soft f head needs
his tiny balls kicked in? Like, what the hell did
(02:06:55):
I do? What did I do trying to preview cough
championship games in the NFL? And now I need my
balls kicked in by Connor McGregor. What the hell is
a guy can't do a harmless UH weekend sports talk
radio show for Christ's sakes, that's pretty funny though. All right,
(02:07:19):
um so let's get into uh the scandal that rocked
the world of sports, and we will do so after
we let you know we've got great news. There's a
quick and easy way you could save money. Switched to
Geico and only takes fifteen minutes to see if you
could say fifteen and one car insurance. Go to Geico
dot com and see how much you could save. I
always saying, what are you laughing at? What's that? You
like seeing me get picked on on Twitter? You like this?
(02:07:41):
This makes you? This makes you feel good about things.
I was looking for some pertinent Connor McGregor drops and
then I kind of considered the time of day we're in,
and I tell you I think we're good. Yeah, sometimes
you forget this is a weekend overnight and it's not.
You cannot share certain things that Connor has said in
the past. Although I think it is like a weekend
overnight to Istanbul, I'm not mistaken. Could be probably is maybe. Alright,
(02:08:05):
So the the Houston Astros. If you're wondering, God, why
are you talking about the Houston Astros in January of
all things? Well, I mean when you are found to
have uh, you know, illegally stolen signs from opponents in
the World Series, whistled and then bang trash cans in
order to tip off pitches in the World Series, kind
(02:08:26):
of a big deal. Kind of a big deal when
multiple managers are fired because of their involvement. Kind of
a big deal when a general manager is fired, kind
of a big deal. When an organization is find the
max amount of five million dollars in this case, it's
kind of a big deal. So the Houston Astros take
center stage because they are frauds. They cheated. It's clear,
(02:08:51):
it's obvious to everybody. But people want the players to
be punished. They want these players to be punished for
their involvement in all of this because they feel like
the players have gotten not free. Two of the players
involved finally spoke earlier today, the first of which was
Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros, who had this to
(02:09:13):
say when it came to the cheating scandal involving his
ball club, if our actions will speak louder than our words,
and the world the commissioner came out with the report.
MLB did their report, and what they did, I'm meaning
they made their decision on what they're gonna do and
(02:09:35):
thought on it. I mean, talk about it. That's a
hell of a players union. I mean, if you're the NFL,
if you're the NBA, take note, because in Major League
Baseball there's a stipulation to where the players Union made
it to where as long as the players talked with
the commissioner and we're honest, they couldn't be punished. So
(02:09:56):
even if you do the crime, you can't be punished,
which in essence is all you gotta do is be
a rat. All you have to do is is be
a rat. If you're a rat, you know, like if
you're a if you're if you're a rat, if you've
you know, if you've got an issue with things that
are happening in Major League Baseball, then you just you
need to speak about it and in fact, um, you know,
(02:10:20):
major League Baseball, Uh, you know, and then we've got
videotape and we've got audio tapes from from around Major
League Baseball. Um, and this was um the Houston Astros. Uh.
Jeff lou Now, the former general manager of the Houston Astros,
talking about the situation, recently got this rat annoying. Yeah,
(02:10:47):
the rat with your own players. It dived you out.
As long as they're not gonna get in trouble, they do.
You know, Hey, listen, here's the honest truth. We were
banging rubber made trash cans that we bought an ace hardware, Uh,
in order to to tip off whether or not you
Darvish was throwing a breaking ball like it's so so.
That was Alex Bregman. He is listen, we are focused
(02:11:09):
only on We're not going to talk about the past now.
Jose al Toba. He also had some comments on the
electronic buzzers that they allegedly wore and is making a
bold prediction when it comes to this next World Series.
That wasn't upset to be honest, even thought it wasn't true.
You know, we all know that some people made that up.
(02:11:30):
And like I said, I'm the best thing that happened
to me with the MLB. Investigate that and you know
they didn't find something. But at the same time, you
know you can't control everything. You control what you can
can control. Believe me, in the end of the year,
everything we'll be fine. We're going to be in the
World Series again. People don't believe it. We will. You
know we will. Like we made it last year, we
(02:11:50):
will one game away of winning. Adult. You know, I'm
happy for the Nationals. They want everything, the really good thing.
They deserve it. But we've been war service again. Maybe
with then maybe we're another team. It's a tough situation.
It's a team. We have to stay together then go
through this as a team like we've been doing always.
How do you move forward? You think that's a good question.
(02:12:13):
I don't know how, but you've got to move forward.
We're gonna stay together as a team. I haven't shared
my opinion about my teammates are the best team I've
ever had. And like I said, we're gonna stay together.
We're gonna hold our hands and move forward to the
next season. I think Jose Altive misunderstood that last question
when the reporter asked you, how do you move forward?
What he was really asking is how do you plan
on cheating now? I mean now that you've been outed
(02:12:36):
and the buzzers and the trash cans are gone, Like
what's next? Like, what's the next form of cheating for
the Houston Astros? What are we doing? Um? You know,
like is it like diversionary tactics? Like do you pretend
that that somebody is threatening to run on the field
so you could sneak into the dugout and uh, you know,
put corked bats inside the opponents a locker? Like what? Like,
(02:12:58):
what's the plan now moving forward? Like? How like how
do you cheat now? Because I've said this and a
percent believe it. This is so much worse than hd
H and p E d s in Major League Baseball?
Like this whole Mike Trout H d H stuff. I
don't care if Mike Trout has taken hd H inject
your eyeballs with it. I couldn't care less. I don't care,
(02:13:22):
It doesn't matter. That doesn't bother me at all. But
for all you people out there that that chastise these
guys who took p E d s and and wanted
to stand on your soapboxes and say they're not allowed
in our Hall of Fame because they took performance in
dancing drugs. Even guys who never tested positive, you have
punished for it since then. This is so much worse
(02:13:45):
than taking p e d s. It's not even close.
This is a direct impact on the game. If you
take p e d s, there's no guarantee it's going
to help. There's there's no guarantee like p e d
s aren't going to tell you that a slider is coming,
but they'll help you recover faster so that you can
(02:14:08):
be better prepared going into the next game. Both are cheating.
I mean, neithers is right. You shouldn't do either. But
if we're talking about which is the lesser of two evils,
it's p d S. It's not even close. This is
a direct impact on the sport, direct impact like you've
got electronic buzzers on your shoulder. You've got a guy's
(02:14:31):
banging trash cans, players whistling in the dugout, like you've
got a legal monitor like this is. This is so
much worse. And if you think I'm crazy, ask a
major league baseball pitcher, ask him this simple question, would
you rather face a guy? Would you rather face a
batter who's on the gas, or would you rather face
(02:14:52):
a batter who knows what pitch is coming because he's
getting an electronic shock to his shoulder to indicate to
him that it's a breaking ball or a fastball that's
coming next. I mean, they'd rather take their chances with
the guy on steroids. Do you know how many guys
probably took steroids that never got to Major League Baseball
that were single A quality or double A quality, and
(02:15:14):
they took steroids and maybe it got him a level higher,
or maybe it didn't. Guys who didn't benefit from it
like this is so much more egregious. Like this, this
form of cheating is so much worse. It's not even close.
It's not even comparable. And if you want to talk
about punishments, I've been saying this and and this is
(02:15:35):
this is what I believe the punishment should be. First
of all, you gotta punish the players. You gotta you
gotta vacate the World Series. I know you don't want
to do it, all right. You don't award it to
the Dodgers because the Dodgers didn't win. You but you
vacate the World Series. Here's what else you do. You
make every single player on that roster that seen Houston
Astro's roster who has a World Series ring, you make
(02:15:56):
him give back his World Series ring. And until he does,
they don't a another game in Major League Baseball. Bottom line,
go after their jewelry. Keep the money. We want the jewelry.
Players work their ass off of those rings like they'll
they'll go above and beyond to try and get those rings.
You know, like where shock treatment during games so they
(02:16:18):
can tell whether or not a slider's coming, or have
your buddy bang a trash can or whistle from the
dugout to let you know whether a fastball is the
next pitch after the one you just whipped on. Like,
go after their rings, make them give them back. Until
we get your ring, you're not playing another game in
Major League Baseball. Done. Go after their jewelry like this
(02:16:38):
like this is so bad, but so awesome for sports
soccer radio and let's let's, you know, keep our priorities first.
For what we do. This is a wonderful gift from
the Astros and baseball gods. Wonderful gift. Now that being said,
I did benefit from the Houston Astros winning that World
(02:16:59):
Series when they were down one nothing. I actually bet
on the Astros to come back and win the series,
and they did so. I have talked to Major League
Baseball and I am exempt from having to give back
my winnings from that World Series, all right, So because
of all the money I've lost gambling, They've given me
an exemption. I get to keep my winnings from the
(02:17:21):
World Series. But I think the rest of those guys
on the Astros have got to get back the rings. Sorry,
just has to happen, alright. Jonas Knox here on Fox
Sports Radio. Get me on Twitter at the Jonas Knox. Uh.
Great news. There's a quick and easy way you could
save money. Switched to geicoon only takes fifteen minutes to
see if you could say fifteen cent more on car insurance.
Go to Geico dot com and see how much you
(02:17:42):
could say. We got the scraps coming up next year
on Fox Sports Radio, where we are going to find
out what we have missed so far on the show
that's next year on fs are for all the latest, though,
ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the gas bad Dave
a gascon. I know you're big and a true detective.
Are you big into Homeland? I've never seen it? Oh? Man,
(02:18:02):
have you did you watch The Outsider? No? I have not.
What's that is that? Netflix? HBO? Show you what is that?
That's a that's a mind of is what that is?
I'll just say this, Um, for a PC society in
which you don't want to show like the worst of
(02:18:24):
what life potentially could offer, the opening crime scene is
as bad as it gets. Really, they pull no punches.
It's bad. How about this? And I was watching this
couple of nights ago when I was on with Jason
Smith and Mike Harmon. What about the opening scene and
Die Hard with a Vengeance? Do you think that would
be made in today's world? What was the opening scene again,
(02:18:46):
when mcclean's got to wear a sign and go to Harlem?
Oh that sign? Um? Yeah? Probably not? Yeah, probably not. Look,
there was three billboard outside Mississippi. There was some some
language in there that I turned to my buddy in
the theater and went, oh, they're they're getting down like
(02:19:09):
there's no uh wow, We're we're going there with this conversation. Look,
there's there's a racial slur used him back to the Future.
In Back to the Future, where as Leader lapally rips
apart his microphone in the other studio Back to the Future,
Leader Lap literally ripped the microphone off his off the
(02:19:30):
hands Lee, She's gonna call relaxed um. But in Back
to the Future where they stuff McFly into the back
of the truck that's the band or the back of
the car that the guys go, what's the problem and
they call one of the band members a racial slur
like and it still airs all the time and nobody
(02:19:52):
seems to notice. And I'm like, Wow, that probably wouldn't
be done nowadays. Hey, I'm talking to Irish Bug. Oh
by the way, true story. The guy who played Biff,
And this is confirmed confirmed by Leader Lap. The guy
who played Biff in Back to the Future listens to
the show on Fox Sports Radio. He confirmed he reached
(02:20:15):
out to Lead the Lap and confirmed that he does
listen to this show on Fox Sports Radio. That big fan.
I love that guy. It was Where are we going
from here? I guess we'll start things off first. In
college basketball today, uh no major upsets. Number two Baylor
was on the ropes. They beat Oklahoma State coming from behind.
(02:20:36):
Thomas Wilson. By the way, it's Thomas Wilson. By the way,
is the actor's name, So no no disrespect. Uh yeah,
Thomas F. Wilson. Thanks Sam, thank you. It's it's Tom Wilson.
I'm calling him Tom Wilson. We gotta make our our
listeners happy. And he's a friend of mine. I'm a
friend of his now. Tom Wilson, Biff from Back to
the Future loves the show and we appreciate his support.
(02:20:58):
He's awesome and true story. A few years ago, I
actually got to see him perform live at the Hermost
of Beach Comedy Club. He was awesome. I've heard I
already's a great guy. He was. He was really damn good.
I went for a for a weekend and I expect
to see him there and I was like, oh my gosh, my, my,
my my. One of my favorite line in the movie
(02:21:20):
is make like a tree and get out. Its sound good.
My favorite line in the movie. What was the other
one who said like a screen door on a battleship.
It's screen door on a submarine. Idiot, right, It's exactly
so good. Anyways, the NBA a couple of items to
report CJ. McCollum out as out tonight for the Portland
(02:21:40):
Trailblazers Clippers one in New Orleans one three to one,
thirty bucks, Big over the Nets eight four to sixties
six at the end of the first quarter in Boston
Sons twenty six Boston twenty Devin Booker already has eleven
points in this one bats Jones Knox in just ten seconds.
But first a word from Farmers. Bundle home on auto.
With Farmers and Ranson, you could save an average of
(02:22:02):
we know a thing or two about how to save
a buck or two. Call Farmers to get a quote.
Today we are Farmers, might averag saving my first for
insurance changes and affiliates. Probably abible on every stage talking
about improv What would you do if you actually saw
Tom Wilson and he's like, dude, what are you looking at?
Butt head? Uh? Faint? Serious faint. It would be like
(02:22:25):
if Stone called Steve Auston gave me a stunner. I'd
sell the hell. It was part of our youth, part
of what we grew up with. It's amazing. I would
love nothing more than than uh than than Tom Wilson
had called me butt heads throws a dodgeball at you.
Just love him. I love one of my favorite and
(02:22:46):
I said at the time, I think it's one of
the great villains in the history of movies like that.
Never I would put him and Sugar from No Country
for Old Men neck and neck. Yeah, I'm telling you.
I'm telling you Kevin Spacey from seven. Uh. You know,
I was hoping we weren't gonna work Kevin space end
of the show, SI alert. I don't know. Yeah, I
(02:23:06):
was hoping we were Yeah, no kidding, way to go, Dave, wait,
a way to ruin it? Well, it's her head, I
don't know, and the baby she was carrying. You can
get Dave on Twitter. You can find Dave on Twitter.
It's a movie. Uh yeah, to uh to file any
grievances towards what you've heard here on Fox Sports Radio,
(02:23:28):
lead to lab all right, all right, um it is,
so should we get into do we want to do
the scraps now to Dave or do you want to
hold off? Alright? Alright, okay, so so we will. We
will have the scraps coming up here just a few
minutes on Fox Sports Radio. Things in the world of
sports we've not had a chance to get to UFC
two forty six coming up later tonight Cowboys Cerroni and uh.
(02:23:53):
Um Connor McGregor will be the main event. Should be
a good fight. Those guys are gonna stand in bang,
They're gonna trade it out on the feet. Uh. Seems
like a perfect fight for Connor McGregor. Fighting a guy
coming off a couple of losses, has been cracked in
his last two fights. Um. A guy who will stand there.
Let's pride get the best of him sometime. Uh, and
(02:24:13):
we'll battle it out on his feet. But it's always fun.
McGregor is gonna make a grip of cash. Uh. Donald
Serrooni is gonna make the most money that that he's
made in his career, and he deserves it. He's a
guy who literally takes every fight they offer him. Has
never turned down a fight. UM. Willing to fight anybody
at any time. The second anybody pulls out of a fight,
(02:24:34):
Donald Serrooni is one of the first guys to reach
out to Dana White to say yeah, I'll take the fight.
Absolutely loves nothing more than to throw down and to scrap,
and he's going to get an opportunity to make the
most money of his m M A career coming up
later on tonight, um, and it'll be a lot of
fun and having Connor McGregor back and and reportedly he's
a different guy. Um, you know, I guess he was
(02:24:57):
drinking before his last training camp. He is promoting proper whiskey.
It's kind of what you have to do when you
go out there and you promote an alcohol company. It's
it's part of the gig. But he seems like he's focused,
re energized, refreshed. And if you talk to anybody who
does alcohol reps like like like they're an alcohol rep
or they travel the country and they and and they
you know, do that for a living, they'll tell you
(02:25:20):
part of the gig and it's a grind is you've
got to go and sample alcohol with people all week long.
And it seems like a good idea until you realize,
you know, if I keep showing up to these venues
in an uber cab, it's probably an indicator that I'm
gonna get after a little bit. So you end up
kind of happen to fall into whatever the profession is
(02:25:40):
and it could be dangerous out there. And Connor McGregor
sort of fell into that before the last fight. Uh
so to be a fun one. Coming up later on tonight,
all right, Jonas knocks here on Fox Sports Radio from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios, where it's easy to
say fifer more on car insurance with Geico, go to
Geico dot Comic seven Auto. The only hard part figuring
out which way is easier. We've got the scraps things
(02:26:00):
from the world of sports we have not had a
chance to get to, and we'll have them next year
on Fox Sports Radio. Jonas knocks here on Fox Sports Radio,
coming to you Alive from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios.
All right, coming up in about fifteen minutes from now
here on fs ARE it'll be Brian No and George
(02:26:21):
Rice Stir who will take over the airwaves here on
Fox Sports Radio. Um, Brian know who may or may
not have a vested interest in the games that will
be taking place in the NFL tomorrow and uh and
I listen, I'm not trying to say, uh you know
who Brian No may like in those games. You can
stick around in fifteen minutes from now and find out
(02:26:42):
for yourself. That's all I can say. Uh So, those
guys will be coming up next year on fs are.
For whatever reason, your local programming switches over to something else.
Check out Briano and George Rice Stir on the I
Heart Radio app. All Right, we're gonna get to the
scraps here, but we have a developing situation here at
Fox Sports Radio. Uh. We were discussing how Tom Wilson,
(02:27:04):
who played Biff and Back to the Future, is actually
a fan of the show. And I know that because
Lead to lap Our executive producer reached out to him
and he said he listens to the show. And it
was very flattering because I love Biff like I am.
I rooted for the villains. I rooted for the heels
in pro wrestling. One of my favorite wrestlers was Ravishing
(02:27:26):
Rick Rude. I like the bad guys, That's who I
root for. And I liked Biff more than I liked
Marty in Back to the Future. Lead the lap who
half the time is out to lunch mentally like he
doesn't realize certain things at certain times because he just
sort of kind of goes through the motions, plays a
cool man, just you know, very very even. Keel walks
(02:27:49):
back to me, this is a true story during the break.
Just a couple of moments, Ago walks back and just
drops this little bombshell on my lap in the middle
of me washing off my orange bell pepper to eat
for my ride home from work. H Lee, go ahead
and tell everybody, well, you told me a few minutes ago.
(02:28:09):
I walked up to you, Jonas and said, Jonas, I
told you right that my my old man was in
Back to the Future. Lee's effing dad was in Back
to the Future. And he didn't think it was a
good idea to bring that up on the air. He
thought it was a better idea to tell me in
the kitchen while I'm watching my washing my produce. So
it's an old storry. He's he is the drummer of
the Pinheads, and the opening scene of the movie, he's
(02:28:31):
the drummer. And there's a much longer story that my
old man was actually cast as Marty McFly. A lot
of people know that Eric Stoltz played Marty McFly was
fired from the cast, later to be replaced obviously by
Michael J. Fox, But for a quick moment in between,
my old man was was cast. Your dad was Marty
McFly before Michael J. Fox, And you didn't think that
(02:28:51):
was worth bringing up on the air. I'll tell him
in the kitchen during the break. It's an old story.
It's it was my dad's lest who raw in the
old acting ring and he called it quits after that.
I mean, what else is your uncle, Dirk Diggler? Are
You're gonna drop that bombshell on us next week? For
God's sakes, Lee, So if you yeah, if you grab
(02:29:12):
for popcorn or you blink, you'll miss him. But yeah,
he's he's the drummer in the pit heads, all right?
That is that is ridiculous And I am outraged that
you just dropped that bombshell on us and didn't tell
us earlier. But without further ado, it's time for this.
How could you not get to these stories? Are the scraps?
And for that we turn it over to our commander
(02:29:34):
in chief, the gas Wad, David Gascon to find out
what the hell we've missed so far. I just love
the great content that's supposed to be featured on the
show was actually behind the scenes, like get it, like
I just it. It's like unbelievable, like lead a lot,
just you know, oh yeah, let figure, I'll tell you
during the break. It would be like me saying, hey,
by the way, I interviewed Michael Jordan's Get Out of Here. Yeah,
(02:29:58):
it was by the bathroom during one of our breaks. Well,
maybe you should have done that on the air, you know,
maybe that would would have been a better idea. Awesomely
good looking out he's like his dad was Marty McFly
before Michael j Fox and Lee didn't think it was
worthy to bring on the air. A matter of fact, unbelievable. Um,
(02:30:19):
we're gonna do some money talk real quick, Jonas before
we get into and the good sports stuff. Um, you're
a craps guy, right, You like playing craps blackjack? Depends
on what I've had to eat? Really? Oh you mean
the game? Okay, Uh, let me see it's it's I
don't It's been explained to me so many times, and
every time people explain to me how craps work, I'm
(02:30:41):
always bombed, and so I never really I don't hold
on and retain any information that I'm giving. All right, Well,
so you're not the type of guy that would want
to fade the public, right or fade like a table
if you're at it, like would have piss people off.
Of my Yeah, I would do that, all right. Well,
I bring that up because of this. I actually just
saw this a couple of moments ago. People actually were
betting against Tesla and Elon musk Um. They call that,
(02:31:04):
you know, someone that puts a put in or a short.
People that put a short in on the stock of
Tesla over the last seven months have lost an estimated
eight point four billion dollars. Jesus in the last seven months.
But because he had that suv and the window that
didn't crack, or that cracked when he threw a hammer
through it or something just talking about a product and uh,
just bashing him. I'm just I'm just saying I'm curious
(02:31:27):
as to why they took that much of a hit,
Like what happened. He smoked He smoked weed on the
joy and all of a sudden, I bring that up
because of this. I know you like the favorites tomorrow.
Um MGM. Actually disclosed a bet from a wager today. Um,
someone bet at the Mirage three thousand dollars on a
(02:31:48):
seven point teaser Kansas City minus a half was San
Francisco minus a half. That's really good. Do you like it? Yeah,
that's really good. Yeah, you see, that's what experience scandlers do, uh,
not like the rest of us morons who just think
we only have one option. I just like, you know,
there there are options out there, you know, if you
(02:32:10):
want to do a little bit of digging, uh and
find yourself with an opportunity to win, you need both
of those two hit obviously, But I do like both
of those. I mean it's they're they're large point spreads.
I don't think there's been what was it ever since
that there's been point spreads this large in the conference
championship games in both games. I think it was something
(02:32:30):
like that, or it's it's been a while two thousand
eight maybe, But yeah, I do like that bet. I
like that teaser. Speaking of all that, you want to
make a bet that Antonio Brown returns to the National
Football League? No, not now, not ever? And when when
Drew Rosenhouse calls it quits, it's because Drew Rosenhaus has
read the room and realizes there's probably no more money
(02:32:51):
to make with this guy, right, I mean, like, did
you see like the stuff he's posting to where there's
a company out there that I think makes um uh
like gummy gummy junk like uh like like like you know,
like gummy bears or like fruit snacks. There's a company
that like makes they call it a bag of leaps
(02:33:13):
and it's like junk like it's like, uh you know
male uh the male organ Yeah, there's a female actress
that's actually doing the female actress. There's an actress out
there that's selling the same thing too. I forget you, No, Iowa,
what's wrong with you? No? But Antonio Brown's like like
(02:33:33):
threatening people with these guys lost his mind. I don't
know what's that? Could I bring that up? Because Lee
and I were actually talking about this, Drew Rosenhause sending
him some text messages, and Antonio Brown, as he always is,
upfront and transparent as ever, he actually twittered out a
PIX picture of the Texas between him and Drew Rosenhaus
and he said, we're done, bro, you know what's over
(02:33:55):
And then the next text messages came from Drew Rosenhaus.
I'm trying to help you a B. Always have, always will.
I will always be here to help you, but you
have to make changes for me to do so. I'm
not going to comment on this. I will speak to
you possibly about this. He goes on, so on and
so forth, So Druro's and how is he gone? Unbelievable? Well,
I don't know that A B. But we'll be back
(02:34:16):
next week. I hope you can eat this
