Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. There's a player in
the NFL that's getting a lot of heat. They're catching
a lot of heat right now from many members of
the media and fans alike. But I'll actually tell you
why that NFL player is exactly like you coming up
here in just a couple of moments, Jonas Knocks Fox
Sports Radio. You can listen to this show on the

(00:44):
rate quote. You can tell that February is approaching because
we've got golf, college basketball, and more college basketball on
all four TVs here at Fox Sports Radio. So February
is approaching, which means we need to appreciate what it
is that we've got in front of us, which is

(01:04):
the final football games of the year. We got a
Pro Bowl coming up on Sunday. If you give a
crap about it. And we got a super Bowl coming
up a little over a week ago, a week from now.
But here's the conversation I want to have because it's
so funny how this works. Jimmy Garoppolo isn't getting a

(01:24):
ton of respect right now, and he's not getting a
lot of respect by people in the media, and he's
not getting a lot of respect by people as far
as fans go and people that watch the sport because
they look at him, he's like, oh man, that guy's
got a free ride. He's got and he hasn't had
to do anything Like I even joke last week, did
he even shower after the game? I mean, he hasn't
had to throw that many passes. And if I were

(01:46):
Jimmy Garoppolo and I were hearing the criticism and the
conversation about what my role was with this team and
how I was performing with this team, I would tell
everybody to screw off. Garoppolo. Talk about some of the naysayers,
some of the doubters this week and how they felt
about him and his lack of playing and lack of

(02:08):
playmaking ability in the playoffs so far. We've said that
you don't really care how often you grow, and all
you really care about is winning. Somebody like Richard Sherman
will see any sort of slights against him and use
that as motivation. I'm wondering, with all this discussion about you,
you're playing, the fact that you threw just say, passes
in the NFC title game, how you use that or
how you view it, if it's even on your mind

(02:30):
at all. Well, yeah, I mean, shure my everyone has
different ways to, you know, get motivated, and very similar
to Sharon, I do the same thing. You know, I
hear all this stuff and everything, but it's just, um,
you can't you know, you can't put that all out
there all the time. It's just you know, you have
to do with it what you what you will and
take it for what it is. Just you know, at
the end of the day, you got go out there
and play football. If I were Jimmy Garoppolo, I tell

(02:52):
everybody to screw you kiss my ass. So I'm not
working overload this this postseason so far? Are you kidding me?
Everybody does this in their workplace. Everybody goes through this.
You ever work a really hard job, you probably have
a really hard job, right now, I've worked several awful jobs,

(03:13):
whether it was a maintenance guy toys or us the rabbit,
chuck e cheese, landscaping, a janitor in an elementary school,
you name it. I've worked a bus boy at t
G I Friday's dishwasher at a Crumby restaurant in North Charleston,
South Carolina, in the middle of the night so I
could afford to make ends meet while I was still

(03:33):
doing local radio. Like, everybody's worked rough jobs, right, but
it doesn't mean they're rough every single day. It doesn't
mean they're difficult every single day. So say majority of
the time your job is difficult, and then all of
a sudden, this fluke occurrence happens. You don't have to
work as hard a couple of days, whether it's around

(03:53):
the holidays or whatever, you're not as busy, say you're
in retail. Black Friday is nuts, and then we get
to about janu and it's slow. Are you going to apologize?
Are you going to feel guilty because you're not working
as hard as you normally do, or you can look
around and go, hey, where were you on Black Friday?

(04:15):
When I was here from five am to five pm?
And then had to stay a couple of extra hours
to clean the place up. Where were you that one
day that somebody called out sick last minute? And I'm
the guy who had to pick up the slack. So
I got a couple of breaks two weeks in a row.
I didn't have to do a whole lot. If I
were Jimmy Garoppolit, say kiss my ass, I've done my part.

(04:38):
I'm not gonna feel the least bit guilty about it.
We were running the football and we were having success.
Isn't the whole goal of this whole thing to win games?
But do people realize fantasy football seasons over? Do we
all get that it's over? Fantasy football seasons over? Now?
If you're a daily fantasy player, you might need to

(04:59):
look in to some sort of attention, some sort of
professional help. But everybody gets a break at their job
from time to time. Just because it's majority of the
time hard doesn't mean it's impossible that some of the
days it's not gonna be as difficult. Doctor dentist, maybe
you don't have as many appointment appointments that day. Tax

(05:21):
season is coming up. Ask somebody who does taxes, Hey,
how you feeling Memorial Day weekend. I feel great. Do
you feel guilty or not working as hard as you
were last month? No? Kiss my ass. Do you see
what the hours I put in? Get out of here.
Anybody watch that Saints game? Did you see Jimmy Garoppolo
in that game went up and down the field and

(05:41):
outplayed Drew Brees in that game? Like, go back to
two moments in his forty Niners career. Remember that wind
streak he rattled off when they were a bad football team.
I think he got into like six wins. That was
Garoppolo didn't even know the offense, didn't even know the playbook,
so much so that Kyle Shanahan was hesitant even putting

(06:04):
him in. They were ready to go with C. J. Bethred,
They were hesitant to put him in and finally said,
all right, let me see what he's got. And that's
why he got the contract. I've talked to people about it.
The reason Jimmy Garoppolo got the contract is because Kyle
Shanahan was so impressed with his ability to go in

(06:25):
there knowing very little of a playbook and rattle off
that many wins in a row, not knowing his personnel,
not knowing the play calling, not really knowing the coaches
all that well. In a mid season trade around Halloween.
That's why he got the deal because they were so
impressed by it. Anybody remember last year at Kansas City,

(06:46):
Jimmy Garoppolo rips his knee up. You should he apologize
for that. Do you remember why he ripped his knee up?
He was trying to make a play. I even remember
afterwards there were media members criticizing him because he the
game was out of reach and instead of going out
of bounds, he tried to cut back inside and that's
where he suffered the injury. God forbid, the guy tried

(07:08):
to make a play and will his team to a
couple of extra yards. Boy, God forbid. He should have
done the smart thing and gone out of bounds. Yeah,
and if you would have gone out of bounds, you
would have called him soft. I know how this game works.
I get it. I know how it works. Jimmy Garoppolo
should not feel the least bit bad. He hasn't had
to do a bunch going into a Super Bowl. Shouldn't

(07:30):
feel the least bit bad. I mean, look at the
Seattle game to end the season. He's done his part.
Do you remember Tom Brady? Anybody remember Tom Brady's first
Super Bowl run? What do you have one touchdown pass
in the entire postseason? He had one game, one touchdown pass.

(07:50):
They didn't win that Super Bowl because of Tom Brady.
What about Brady's last Super Bowl? Did he do a
lot in that game? Or was that all about the
defense shutting down Jared Goff, Sean McVeigh and the Rams,
like Tom Brady, super bowls are book ended by not
having to do as much and you won the game.
Go back to the Super Bowl against the Eagles. Everyone

(08:13):
talks about what a performance Nick Foles put on, and boy,
the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Patriots at their own game.
No they didn't, No, they didn't. New England's defense was garbage.
They were terrible. Tom Brady through for five hundred yards
in that game. He was the best player on the

(08:34):
field and they lost. So you go ask Brady, hey,
do you feel guilty about not having to do as
much the very next year and winning that Super Bowl
against the Rams? And Brady would say no, Like we
said multiple times, kiss my ass. I threw for five
hundred yards and we lost on a strip sack the
year before. I'll take the wins. However I can get him.

(08:55):
All this stuff evens out. It's just like at your job.
You come in on a Monday and things suck, and
all of a sudden, it's Friday and it's casual dressed day,
and you had a bunch of bagels in the kitchen
and some doughnuts, and everybody's in a good mood and
they'll even let you leave an hour and a half early.
Are you gonna give money back because you feel guilty,

(09:16):
or you're gonna look and say, you know what, I
kind of earned this. I earned this. I busted my
ass all week. It's it's the idea behind cheat days.
People that diet and go on these restrictions from carbs
and sugars and all this stuff. Why do you have
a cheat day so that you don't feel guilty about it?
So you can have a cinnamon roll or a bag

(09:38):
of chips, or a sub sandwich or a cheeseburger and
a couple of beers and not feel like, gosh, am
I sinning here? No, Because you were saying all week
long you had two pieces of lettuce, a bottle water,
and a protein drink. You were a Saint all week long.
Enjoy yourself, splurge a little bit. Jimmy Garoppolo had you

(10:00):
cheat days in a row. I'm not mad about it,
and I'm not going to criticize the guy for it.
He's earned the opportunity to be here, He's busted his
ask to get to this point, and he's played really,
really well in crucial moments for the forty Niners. So
he only threw the ball eight times last game, Who cares?
What would you rather have him throw it eighty times

(10:21):
and they lose? They were winning the game, and they're
in the super Bowl because of it. And if I'm
Jimmy Garoppolo and somebody's given me a hard time telling
me I didn't earn this spot to be in the
super Bowl and I'm being bailed out by my teammates,
I would lift up my pant leg, show him the
two scars on my knee, and tell him kiss my ass.
I earned this opportunity. Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio. You

Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. Get me on Twitter at
the Jonas Knocks at the Jonas Knocks on Twitter. All right,
coming up next, We're going to dive into a sit
you asition in the NFL that I think has gone
under the radar, but I think it's one of the

(11:04):
most fascinating hires of the off season as far as
coaches go. Find out who we're talking about. Next here
on FSR, Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio Company you live
here from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up
in a little over ten minutes from now here on
fs ARE we will dive back into the Super Bowl. Uh.

(11:26):
Several storylines uh worth noting here as we are a
little over a week away from Super Bowl fifty four,
So we will have that for here a little over
ten minutes from now on Fox Sports Radio right now.
He is always kind enough to join us every single
Saturday here on Fox Sports Radio. He is Adam Kaplan
FSR NFL Insider, also serious x M NFL Radio as well.

(11:47):
Adam thinks so much of the time, we appreciate it.
Good to talk to you. My friend just got back
from Seer Bowl week, looking forward to going to the
Super Bowl next week. So you went, So that's a
kind of a drastic difference. Mobile Alabama to Miami Beach,
it is. And you know, it's funny. This is my
nineteenth Senior Bowl and rarely, rarely is it warm in Mobile,
Alabama in January I think maybe twice over those nineteen years,

(12:11):
hadn't been over seventy degrees. It was in the low fifties.
As a matter of fact, on Tuesday, the first day
of practice, it was in the high thirties. And typically
people don't dress warm enough, and there were some shivering
people at practice. But they got the three practices then
and the game is going on today. This is really okay,
I guess kind of a generic question, but I'm fascinated
because I really do think there is something that you

(12:32):
can take from the Senior Bowl. It's not like normal
all star games, so to speak. But who, And I
think maybe on the defensive side, practice is more important
because you're not allowed to do certain things in the game.
But who jumped out to you? Was there anybody that
you saw that maybe you weren't aware of, that you
looked at and said, well that that might be an interesting,
you know, name to watch At the next level. I

(12:52):
would say it was probably more at the quarterback level. Um,
what I what I get out of practice Jonas is
this I don't get. I don't want a ton of
college football because of the season's overlap, and every year
quarterbacks come out of nowhere where players come out of nowhere.
I'll give you an example. It was my first Senior
Bowl in two thousand and two. Antoine Ranol was the
former i U quarterback. He went to Mobile and they

(13:17):
changed him to wide receiver to a slot receiver. Had
he not accepted that, he would not have been drafted.
Not only did he get drafted, he went up making
a lot of money over his career. I'll give you
another example, and I talked to John Lynch the Niners
GM this week. Most people probably forgot this, but the
Niners coaching staff coached in the Senior Bowl last year.
Who did they coach. They coached Deebo Samuel. Well, I

(13:38):
don't know that Deebo Samuel goes in the second round
of the Niners. Have they not coached him? He also
pointed out, and I totally forgot about this, that Drake Greenlaw,
a foot front pick for the Niners, was on the
other team in the Senior Bowl last year and they
got to see him as well. So the advantage for
NFL teams Jonas is very simple to get exposure over
three days of practice. There's a walk through on Friday,
but that doesn't really mean much. The first two days

(13:59):
are very important. As a matter of fact, the practices
are more important than the game because you get to
see more reps in the game sometimes. I remember talking
to Joe Flacco about this. He came in as a
third string quarterback in the Sunior Bowl. He just didn't
get enough time to to be evaluated. So these practice
are very very important. Jordan's love I've heard a lot
about Jordan's love Um and just sort of his performance.

(14:21):
Was he a guy that that may be flashed at
times or is there still some concerns that he turns
them all over too much? Yeah, he's got an arm.
I'll say this about him. He thought that you tell
State quarterback he's got he's got an arm. But Justin
Herbert was the player of the week for the Studier Bowl.
And the only thing about Herbert is this he does.
The term is see it and throw it, kind of

(14:43):
like Dak Prescott. When the guy gets open, he throws
an absolute laser. You'd like to see him throw with
more anticipation. But he clearly is he really helped himself,
not that he wasn't. He's always going to go in
the first round. I think he's absolutely helped himself through
this week's practices solidify himself at the top ten. Pick

NFL joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Jonas Knox
here on FS are all right, So I need to
know this because I was talking about it last night.
When you go to certain bowl games that they're sponsored
by certain things, you'll find that sponsor and and all
around the stadium, all around the venue. So with that
being said, Reese's Senior Bowl, what are we talking about?
Peanut butter cups at every seat? What's happening there? So

(15:24):
it's funny the first one, um first one, when Reese
has got the spotsorship for the Secret Bowl. Just like
you said that, they were absolutely everywhere, I mean literally everywhere.
You off. I was like, okay, I get it, I
get it. And then over a series of years, okay,
you could find them, but it was a little bit
overkilled in the beginning. I'm a dark chocolate guy. I uh,

(15:45):
it's better for us. You could get them in Reese's. Uh,
it was pretty funny though you can see the logo
in the Enzo. It's actually pretty good. It's it's I'm
glad the senior boat does as well as it's done.
There had been talking was gonna move to Orlando that went,
I'm not happening. Uh. They're in Latin People's Stadium, which
as an older stadium in Mobile might remember the Blue
Gray Game when we're growing up that was played there. Uh,

(16:07):
and uh, the University of South Alabama and the Jaguars
played there. But it's it's a great week and then
the best part about it is that you get it's
a great place to gather information from coaches and executives
because every team is represented and everybody goes out at
dining and it's it's a good time to see people.
I mean, listen you. We're kind of on the same
although we're going I guess in different directions, but we're

(16:28):
going away from the standard Reese's pieces. Buttercup. One of
the more controversial takes I had on Weekend Overnight Radio,
which might explain why I still do weekend Overnight radio,
is that I said white, white chocolate peanut butter cups
were better than the regular chocolate peanut butter cups I've
never had awesome. I'll be honest with you, I've never
had white chocolate peanut butter cau I didn't. I guess

(16:48):
they're available, I just not seen them. Yeah, they're probably
filled up in a Gatorade bucket on the side of
one of these sidelines, so maybe they'll send them out.
Adam Kaplan Fox Sports Radio NFL insider j Gruden getting
the O C job in Jack's bill. Um, I haven't
heard a lot of this discuss, but that feels like
kind of a sneaky good higher for the Jaguars. Yeah,
Jay is a good play caller. Uh you know the

(17:09):
guy that was was that part of ways with the Jaguars.
John d. Filippo is now the quarterback coach of the Bears,
and John did an incredible job with Gardon Minshew Garden Minshew.
By the way, I don't know if anyone knows this,
but he had seven a f C Rookie Offensive Player
of the Week awards for the Jaguars. But yet both
sides part of ways there with with the O C.
Jays did a good job he look he he did

(17:32):
a good job with Kirk Cousins. Uh, he didn't get
to stay around to see Dwayne Haskins developed. He'll do
a decent job there, no question about it. But it's
going to be quite the change though, because Nick Foles.
Remember de Filippo and Fulls worked together in Philly doing
their Super Bowl run, and and and and Nick. Quite frankly,
he's got to be a shotgun the whole time. He's
he played a certain way. I'll be very interesting with

(17:54):
the Jaguars doing offense because they played a certain way.
They were more of a passing offense. Did they go
back to running the ball more on a Grood Wolff stick?
And the plan is for them to keep both fools
and Minshew correct Well, well, Minshew Minshew. Um My belief
is he'll be the start of going to the O.
T A. S Doing program. Yeah, I do. He was.
He was great. Here's what happened, like I think he

(18:16):
hit the rookie. Well, he might remember the London game,
he didn't play well. He got that Nick got healthy.
Nick didn't play well. They went back to Minshew. He
played well. Then an unbelievable game week seventeen at home
against the Colts, his best game where he was an
absolute fire. I suspect that it's gonna be least for
the beginning, it's going to be in during the off
season program. It's gonna be Minshew. Then, assuming Folds is

(18:37):
on the contract. They all have a lot of money,
what they over twenty million, whether he's on the roster
or not, so I suspect he'll be on the roster.
I I can't imagine any team with trade form right now.
Adam Kaplan Fox Sports Radio, NFL, NFL Insider Serious x M,
NFL Radio joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Jonas
knocks with you on fs are UM. I was saying
this earlier, just sort of some of the criticism and
people mocking Jimmy Garoppolo because well, he has a really

(19:00):
throwing the ball a lot, and he hasn't really produced
a lot. To get to this point, man, my point was,
sometimes your job is a little easier on certain days
than it is on other days. I have no issue
with the fact that they've ran the ball and gotten
to the point to where they are, and if I
were Garoppolo, I wouldn't feel like I haven't done my part,
it's not like Brady lit up the playoffs his first

(19:20):
time when he was making a playoff run with the Patriots.
Where do you stand on sort of the forty nine offense?
And do you think he continues next Sunday. Yeah, I've
heard this argument. I I'm on the radio every weekend
Bay Area and they've asked me that game. They're okay,
what do you how do you see Garoppolo this season?
I said, Look, look at the same game when they
went to New Orleans and both teams scoring in the

(19:41):
high thirties, and Jimmy had not only the best game
of his career, that might have been the best game
if any quarterback this season. And I know how great
Mahomes has been, but he put the team on his
back when he had to the both cardinal games, both
Seattle Seahawk games, so he clearly can do it. But
my sense and I started gathering some opinions this week.
Most people are book lets, think it would be a
fairly high scoring game, that the weather should not be

(20:02):
a factor. I look at this stuff, the long range
forecast for next Sunday. It doesn't look like it's gonna rain.
I know, it seems could change it is Miami, but uh,
the fact of the matter is if they have to throw,
they can do it. But the question is can the
San Francisco Forner defense stop Practrick Mahomes. No one's being
able to do it. Do you have a read on
this game? Because I felt like I love San Francisco

(20:24):
early on and then I'm being seduced by the Chiefs
in that offense now, and I don't know which way
I'm going, but I'm sorry, I'm with you. If I
had to turn my pick in now, I would have
a very, very slight lean through the Chiefs just because
of their ability to score. But you know what scares
me the run defense. I know, the run defense, which
got off their terrible start. It was much better in
the second half of the season. It does scare me

(20:44):
a little bit. Chris Jones is going to play with
his calf strain. You know, he couldn't play a full
even close to full let of snaps last week. He's
start defensive tackle for the Chiefs. I think it's a
very even game. I could see why Vegas has it
one or one and a half Chiefs. I think it's
that type of game. I think it's gonna be a
fun game because he got a team at cos. Shanahan
said at the head coach of the Diners, Jonas, he
really did say, they're playing more to the defense now

(21:07):
and the run game in the past game. And the
Chief's played in the past game, not the run game.
It's kind of interesting. Adam kaplan last one for you
here on Fox Sports Radio. What's happening with the Browns
and and their GM search. What's going on? So now
George Patton, uh takes himself out of the running. That's
a guy who had a relationship I'm assuming with Kevin
Stefanski in Minnesota. So what's going on now? What's the plan? Yeah,

(21:28):
George Paton had a relationship with Kevin for thirteen years. Um,
they have a very good working relationship. The Paul de
potest is that the director of strategy. It's very clear
what what he he won, not only Stefanski, Uh, he
wants Andrew Berry, the Eagles director foot operations. But George Patton,
George Payton could not agree on the structure. Uh, my understandings,

(21:51):
you just couldn't. They couldn't agree on a bunch of things.
A lot of things he liked, they just couldn't agree overall,
and he's not going to take the job after by
the way, two interviews. You know, George Payton is a
guy that's turned down a lot of opportunities in his
career to b GM with the Rams, with the Jets
and others, and here we go once again. He's he's
tied to Rick Spilman, the general manager of the Vikings,
who brought him in from Miami. So it's right now,

(22:14):
it's it would be Andrew Berry's job to lose of
Interberry doesn't get it, um we would that would certainly
be shocking at this point. Adam Kaplan Fox Sports Radio,

I'm gonna tell you why there are certain people out

(22:55):
there that live for negativity. Football fans, all right, and
you might be one of these football fans. A very
negative approach to the Super Bowl here from you, sick
twisted you know what. We'll get to that here on
Fox Sports Radio. But for all the ladist from around
the world of sports, ladies and gentlemen, roll out the
red carpet in your ears and welcome in. Gosh mad

(23:15):
David Gas. That is damn right. What's up man? Just
hanging out, just you know, flying away here on Fox
Sports Radio. A little bit different of a scene today
for us. Why is that, David? I don't know it
just that it is, right? Yeah, you think definitely? Are

(23:36):
you excite about Miami? Uh? Yeah, whatever, Like you want
to know what a loser I am. So my fiance
I were at dinner. I forget where we were at.
We're sitting down somewhere and she's like, what are you
looking at? And I was looking up to see what
the fitness room was like at the hotel I'm staying at.
That's the role of that, I mean, because I I

(23:59):
just I and I can't eat the bad food. Uh,
and maybe have a beer and then just let it
sit there. I gotta swell out. I just gotta get
the poisons out. So you're packing like was an SPF
ninety for you? Oh no, I'll just wear I'll literally cover.
I'll look like a mummy. Like I'll look like a
mummy in South Beach like I just by the way. Um,

(24:21):
I was trying to figure out where the super Bowl was.
Royal Fuchs, Royal Fuchs. I don't know if you guys
remember Royal Fuchs from used Cars, Royal Fuchs. I actually
we caught up with him earlier today to see whether
or not he knew we're super Bowl fifty four was
located Miami got Miami Beach, Miami Beach, Florida, Miami Beaches.

(24:45):
So there it is so just uh a good stuff.
I mean, have you ever seen use cars? Dave, one
of the all time classics leader Laps never seen it
because he doesn't like movies. Yeah, you should have found
out where he was at this week. He just found
his car twenty minutes ago. That's from last weekend. Yeah.

(25:08):
I tried telling you just be amishly right around in
a horse and buggy. For Christ's sakes, I mean, what
do you what a waste of time? You're gonna lose
your car every weekend. It's got a reputation of absolutely
does Joe will start things off in golf. I know
you wanted to go there anyway. Farmer's insurance open right up,
the Farmers insurance open. That's right, Farmer's insurance open. Minus
ten is Ryan Palmer. Here's your leader right now. He's

(25:30):
two strokes in front of Tiger Woods. A couple of
the guys hanging tough. Roy McIlroy, he's at minus six
as well. College basketball scenes a busy one bunch of
teams in the top twenty five, all one, number six,
Louisville by eighteen over Clemson, number twenty four, Rutgers by
three over Nebraska, Number three, Kansas underweight, trailing at home
to Tennessee number twenty, Memphis by eight over s m

(25:54):
U seven to nineteen. In the National Football League, Mike
Gara Fuller reporting safety are Barry plans I'm playing next season?
Green May Packer or Grimmy Press Gazette is expecting the
Packers to release Jimmy Graham has got a couple years
left on his deal that will open up eight million
dollars in cap space. And of course TMZ reporting that
owner Robert Craft has told the local outlet that they

(26:16):
plan on bringing back Tom Brady in Yeah. Kind of
kind of hurts for for Gave. I know you wanted
him as a charger and a couple of folks probably
wanted him in Tennessee. Let me tell you something, uh coming,
It's funny you mentioned that coming up in in about
twelve minutes from now. I have got one of the
hottest takes. All right, I've got one of the hottest

(26:38):
takes you'll ever hear on sports radio. If it happens.
If it happens, it's going to well, remember of the
show is gonna be pissed. I'll tell you that right
off the bat. But also it's going to send shock
waves around the NFL. Right And I think there's something
to it, and I think it's got legs. Dave, Well,
that's that's a professional tease. And I'll be standing on
by damn straight rights. Uh ilwa. Sam can stand with

(27:02):
what's on the television right now? All right, thanks Dave
here on Fox Sports Radio, Um Jonas knocks from the
Geico Fox Sports radio studios, where it's easy to say
fifteen percent or more on car insurance with Geico. Go
to Geico dot com or call eight nine seven Auto.
The only hard part figuring out which way is easier.
All right, Um, look, I dabble in negativity most of

(27:24):
the time. It's just to be funny. I got a
buddy of mine. Him and I do this all the time,
to where even if we love a restaurant, even if
we had great food and an amazing time, as we're
getting up to leave, we will say, every single time
this place sucks, let's get out of here, Like it's
just funny. I don't know why. It's just this thing

(27:44):
that we've been doing for years and years I do
with my fiance all the time. She laughs every single time,
even if I love the food, like we could be
leaving her house and I will say it, or we
could her parents house and I'll say, we could be
leaving my truck and I'll say, it's just so it's
fun to dabble in negativity. All right, it's fun to
do it. But I'm not like you sick bastards, all right,

(28:04):
I'm not like you guys who dabble in this sort
of negativity. I imagine the worst moment of your professional career, alright,
just the worst moment whatever it is, Like, you got
this career and it's the worst moment in your career,
or in high school. What's the worst moment of your
days in high school? You know, maybe you didn't get
to the bathroom on time. Uh you know, maybe uh,

(28:27):
maybe somebody pantched you on the quad and you had
your hands full and you couldn't get your pants up
in time, and everybody saw everything. Like, there's multiple things
that can happen in high school. It's not as sick
and twisted as junior high. Junior high. It was miserable.
Everybody's an a hole in junior high. But it's so
you know, like there there are low moments. But imagine
if the lowest moment of your professional career people could

(28:52):
now make money off of if that same exact moment
happened again. All right, This is how sick and twisted
people are that cover the NFL, gamble on the NFL
and watch the Super Bowl At Points Bet, which is
a sports book, Kyle Shanahan is a hundred to one

(29:13):
to blow another three lead in the Super Bowl. Okay,
just think about that, the worst moment of your professional career,
one of the worst moments of your life, and all
these years later, people have turned it into a prop
bet that they can actually make money on. And you
can try and be an optimist all you want. You

(29:34):
can try and say, well, I bet for it not
to happen. Okay, why bet on it at all? Why
even feed into this negativity. I'm not going to bet
on it. I mean, if I was looking at that line,
I would bet that it will happen again, just a
hundred to one. I mean, it's it's gonna pay out.
You bet five bucks, you're gonna make a ton of money.
But just the idea that we're now taken the lowest

(29:55):
moment of somebody's career and turning it into that, like
that's what we're now doing. I don't recall what happened
back in or ninety one, whatever it was, but after
Scott norwould miss that kick, imagine the next year in
the Super Bowl there was a prop bed and maybe
there was next year in the Super Bowl there was

(30:15):
a prop bed that Scott Norwood will miss a forty
seven yard kick wide ride again. I mean, if you
were Scott Norwood and you saw that, aren't you just
instantly depressed? Aren't you just miserable? Like for the rest
of Blair Walsh's career. What if somebody said, hey, it's
a hundred to one, Blair Walsh is going to uh
shank a twenty seven yard field goal at home to

(30:37):
advance in the playoffs against the Seahawks, like or Gary
Anderson in the NFC title game back like the lowest
moments of these guys career and we're making money off
it and setting betting lines off of it. I get
the Gatorade prop, I get the coin flip, I get
you know, uh, the hoodie Belichick wears that's been seeing

(30:58):
every single year. I get to you know, Kyle Shanahan,
will you have a flat bill hat? I get all
of that stuff. That's fun stuff. But Kyle Shanahan to
blow another twenty eight to three lead, And by the way,
when is the defense gonna be held accountable for blowing
that three lead? We're just gonna put all that on
Kyle Shanahan. We're just we're just gonna say that was

(31:18):
all because Kyle Shanahan wouldn't run the ball and and
made shoddy decisions down the stretch in that game. Is
the defense gonna get any of the heat for this? Like,
if you're Dan Quinn, do you even dare to bet
on something like this? I don't know if you're allowed
to as a coach, but if you bet on a
prop bed or have a buddy put the bet in, like,
good god man, just be thankful. I know everybody wants

(31:40):
to be an athlete. You want to be a professional athlete,
you want to be a celebrity, but this is what
comes with the territory. Yeah, you make millions of dollars,
but then also people can make millions of dollars off
you if you wet your bed on the biggest stage
of all and several years later they turn it into
a prop bed. So you guys are savages. I don't
play that game. I like to keep more upbeat approach

(32:01):
here on Fox Sports rad I'm more of a positive
guy here on fs are. By the way, get me
on Twitter at the Jonas Knocks at the Jonas Knocks
on Twitter. Uh coming up next. I believe this could
be one of the hottest takes that you will ever
hear all right, And I don't want to think about

(32:21):
it much longer and promote it much longer, because the
more that I talk about it, the less I believe
it's going to happen. But I do think there's a
chance that it happens, and it would send shock waves
throughout the entire NFL world. That's next year on fs ARE,
Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio, coming to you live here
from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Uh, coming up

(32:45):
in Uh, we'll call it a little over ten minutes
from now here on fs ARE, we will get back
into the NFL. Uh. Look, Super Bowl fifty four is
a little over a week away. Already some controversy heading
into the Super Bowl. We'll have that for you here
a little over ten minutes from now on Fox Sports Radio.
Update on the Senior Bowl. Uh, the North is leading

(33:07):
the South ten. I mean, like just and here's the thing.
And we talked to Adam Kaplan And by the way,
I'm gonna get to this gigantic conspirator. I don't it's
not a conspiration. That's a wrong term. Um, hot take,
hot take that if it happens, I believe they might
erect a statue outside the Fox Sports Radio studios. If
this happens, I believe that they might erect a statue

(33:29):
outside the Fox Sports Radio stupor bowls uh studios. For me,
I believe that's how it's gonna go. All right, So,
um Adam Caplan who joined us earlier Fox Sports Radio
NFL insider Sirius XM. He was saying, the first year
he was at the Reese's Senior Bowl, Reese's were everywhere,
and now it's not as much. So what's the deal

(33:49):
is Reese is going on the cheaps? I mean like
and and if you and if you were going to
each player just get like the little tupac or do
you get like the sleeve before? I mean, what are
we talking about here? We need intimate in formation from
the Reese's Senior Bowl, and we've got to have it
before the show is over. So at the Jonas Stocks
on Twitter, if you could provide that for us here
on Fox Sports Radio. All right. So there's there's a

(34:14):
lot of conversation out there about quarterbacks on the move. Right.
It's kind of an interesting offseason because you got the
Tom Brady story that's happening. Tom Brady what's gonna happen
with Brady? As Dave Gascon mentioned in his last update
here on Fox Sports Radio, Bob Kraft says they want
Tom Brady back. Now. I went on the air a

(34:34):
few months back and I just kind of, you know, uh,
took my shot and I said, you know what, what
about Brady to the Raiders? What about Brady to the
Las Vegas Raiders. I don't buy that that the Oakland
Raiders now the Las Vegas Raiders are sold on Derek Carr,
I don't buy it. You hear all the conversation, all
the talk. The idea of Brady going to Las Vegas

(34:55):
to play for the Raiders make some sense to me.
Like John Rudin wouldn't want to work with Tom Brady,
of course he would. Like Tom Brady wouldn't be a
big hit in Las Vegas and the city of Las
Vegas and all the opportunities there for TB twelve to
expand and grow post career. Of course he would would
be a major move, and he's got the ability to

(35:17):
do so. Tom Brady is a free agent. Like the
Patriots can set whatever deadlines they want. Tom Brady is
a free agent if he doesn't want to be in
New England. There's going to be suitors out there. It's
going to happen. Now, I believe that Brady goes back
to New England. I think that does happen. But I
wouldn't be surprised if the Las Vegas Raiders were the

(35:39):
landing spot for Tom Brady. I don't think they're sold
on Derek Carr, and I do believe that John Gruden
would be open to the idea of moving on from
Derek Carr, moving on from from the contract and going
with Tom Brady. I do firmly believe that, and no
state tax and all the other perks that would come
along with playing in Las Vegas for Brady. And then

(36:00):
you've got Philip Rivers. Philip Rivers takes off from San Diego,
moves back to Florida or to Florida because he wants
to be closer to home. And so people are trying
to figure out, all right, so, so who's gonna be
the next quarterback for the Chargers? Who's going to be
the quarterback for the l A Chargers, Like, Who's who's

(36:21):
gonna be the next guy? And the Chargers have kind
of put themselves in this difficult spot to where the
Chargers have a wind now roster. But if Philip Rivers
is done, they don't have a wind now quarterback. They
got Tyrod Taylor and he's limited, and they've got Easton Stick,
who I mistakenly called Ethan Stick during a local UH

(36:44):
program here on television in Las Angeles. But nonetheless, same thing,
Ethan Easton Who cares you say fast enough? It sounds
the same. Like that's all they got a quarterback. So
I started thinking, like what would like, like, what are
the possibility that the Chargers, who need this big name
quarterback to open up this brand new stadium, actually go

(37:06):
out there and get a big name quarterback and the
name that's being thrown out there is Tom Brady. I
got another one for you. What about Aaron Rodgers? Think
about it? Look at the Packer offense. Was that a
Packer offense reliant on Aaron Rodgers to make plays this

(37:27):
past season? Or did it seemed like Rogers job was
a little bit easier than it had been, Like it
feels like there's been a changing of the guard. The
coach that was selected for the Packers. I know this
to be a fact. Aaron Rodgers had no say in
Matt Lafleur getting hired, no say whatsoever. Matt la Flour

(37:48):
came in, was given a pretty impressive amount of power
as a first time head coach, having not exactly had
the most prestigious resume as a play caller with the
Tennessee Titans. And Matt Laflour came in and it was
his offense from the jump Listen, I'm in control here.
Remember them kind of butting heads a little bit, Aaron
Rodgers kind of having to do things a little bit differently.

(38:10):
But when you think about the Packer offenses past year,
I don't really think about Aaron Rodgers leading him up
and down the field. I think about them adding to
that defense and running the ball like they haven't run
the ball in years past. So if you were the
Green Bay Packers and you had an opportunity and the
l A Chargers hit you up and said, hey, you

(38:32):
got an aging quarterback who knows how much longer he
wants to play. He's already got a giant home in
mansion in Malibu. The idea of Aaron Rodgers going back
to California and being able to finish out his career there,
it would be a win for the Chargers because it's
a massive name in a brand new stadium. They couldn't
even get their own fans to go to the twenty

(38:53):
seven thousand seats soccer stadium they were playing in. But
you get Aaron Rodgers, you deliver Aaron Rodgers week one
of next season in that brand new stadium. All of
a sudden, it's a game changer. It's an organization changer.
It might be an a f C changer. Like, how
do we know Aaron Rodgers is totally happy in Green Bay?

(39:16):
He says he is. But then you get his head coach,
Matt Lafleur, who doesn't a press conference this week and
talks about how he couldn't figure out why they were
so uninspired and you know, why did they come out
and play so lackluster? I mean, does this sound like
a coach who's totally pleased with his old roster? I mean,
I don't understand that. Because you're there, you have an

(39:38):
opportunity to go to playing a Super Bowl, and for
that to happen, it's it's extremely it's bothersome, and we
gotta look at ourselves, everybody. I gotta look inside it
myself and see why why weren't our players playing with
their hair on fire? I think every everybody in our

(39:58):
organization has to do that. I mean, think about it.
Shouldn't this have been the most motivated Rogers had been,
so he can prove to everybody. I wasn't the problem
Mike McCarthy was. And yet I think Rogers looked better
a year ago than he did this year. I'm just
saying I don't think it's likely, but I don't think
it's the craziest idea in the world. And if it happens,

(40:19):
you heard it here first, I want full credit. And
if it doesn't happen, I never said it. And you've
been day drinking all day on a Saturday, and that's
your problem, not mine. Farmer's insurance open going on right now.
Ryan Palmer is your leader. He's at minus ten Tiger Woods.
He's hanging around man a jump today. He's at eight
under par A. Couple of the guys hanging tough as well.
That includes Rory McElroy who's at minus six. College basketball

(40:43):
scene has been a busy one today. We'll leave things
off first. The National Football League. Mike Gara follow the
NFL Networks reporting that Safety A. Berry plans on playing
this upcoming season. Green Bay Press Gazette reporting that the
Packers are expected to release Jimmy Graham. They do do
so to open up eight million dollars in camp space.
TMZ report that Patriots on Robert Kraft is saying that

(41:05):
the team will bring back Tom Brady this upcoming year.
College basketball scene, as we mentioned, a jam packed one,
number three Kansas leading in the home over Tennessee thirty seven,
and thirty number twenty Memphis by nine against s m U.
I'm David gascon Well, there's a kind of an honest
discussion we need to have. It's involving an NFL quarterback.

(41:27):
It's just the truth, not trying to be a hater,
not trying to be overly negative. It's not what we're
doing here. We're just simply pointing out the facts, and
we will have that for you here. Coming up in
just a couple of moments, Jonas Knocks here on Fox
Sports Radio. You can check out this show on the

and if you would like to find out exactly how
this show and what the response to this show is

(42:12):
so far, and how the show is going, I present
you exhibit A guy writes it on Twitter. Jonas can't
wait to get to his Miami Motel six shack, whip
out the lotion and work on his microscopic d to
his dream f Jimmy G like he's one of his
stable of his many porn stars. Make sure to stack

(42:35):
on a lot of lotion for the whole week. You bleep, like,
what was that? I swear to I've never been that
angry ever, like you could. You could bump your kneecap
on that one piece of furniture in your house in

(42:58):
consecutive days, you know, the one you always sit your
knee on. You could do it in consecutive days. I've
never been that angry ever, like I've had bad road rage.
I got a new a road ragge incident. Uh, sort
of near the studios last week. Uh, coming to work,
which I had a guy given me the finger threatening
to fight me, and I just looked at him and
I said, I just put my finger to my mouth.

(43:21):
Uh and he didn't know what to do at that point.
Like I've had road rage incidents, I've been angry. I've
never been that angry. I don't know. But because I said,
Jimmy Garoppolo shouldn't feel guilty. He's not having to throw
the ball a bunch like I mean, come on, man,
we gotta take it that far. But keeping coming at
the Jonah socks on Twitter, at the Jonah socks on Twitter.

(43:43):
It is just Twitter. I do not take any of
it personally, and I don't block anybody either. I refused
to play that game. Okay. So I don't know if
anybody knew this or not, but um, Eli Manning retired
right now, Eli Manning, uh, and the converse station could
be had about whether or not Eli Manning is a

(44:03):
Hall of Fame right now. That's that's like the uh,
the modern day version of is die Hard a Christmas movie?
Like that's what that is. It's it's the go to
Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame? Is die Hard
a Christmas movie? And is Eli Manning a Hall of Famer?
Like That's that's where we're at now. Eli Manning and
his coach Tom Coughlin won two Super Bowls together, and

(44:27):
Tom Coughlin said recently, courtesy of The New York Post, quote,
if there's gonna be a big game, I want Eli
to be my quarterback because he performs in the big
ones is amazing to me, always was. I was proud
and honored to be as coach. End quote. So let
me just ask you this, and again, I'm not trying
to rain on anybody's parade. I acknowledge Eli Manning is

(44:50):
going to be a Hall of Famer. I'm not not
trying to be a d bag here. I'm simply trying
to ask, simply trying to ask just what we're talking
about here when it comes to big games, Tom Coughlin says,
there's nobody else I want in a big game other
than Eli Manning. So I would just ask you this,
would you consider a playoff game a big game? I

(45:15):
would I would consider a playoff game a big game? Um,
would you consider I don't know, four playoff games to
be a big game, because I would. We know the
super Bowl is a big game. He won both of those,
played his ass off, I get it. But would you
consider a playoff game also a big game? I absolutely would.

(45:38):
So if that's the case, wouldn't you think maybe you
would want somebody other than Eli Manning in those four
one and done playoff appearances you had as a Giant's quarterback.
I don't know, I probably would. I mean, he either
won the whole thing or he didn't win a damn thing.

(45:59):
And can we talk about his performance in those other
super bowls? Like can we can we have that discussion
in or in those other playoff runs, in the non
super Bowl playoff runs, Eli Manning in those non super
Bowl playoff runs was not good in four games. He

(46:21):
had three touchdowns and seven interceptions in those four games.
So we're gonna sit here and just kind of gloss
over the entirety of the postseason resume. We're only going
straight to super Bowls? Like if we are, okay, but

(46:43):
if we're just if we're gonna talk about the whole resume,
let's at least talk about the whole resume. I said
he's gonna get into the Hall of Fame for a
couple of reasons. Number one and most importantly, his last name.
I come on, let's like, let's let's be truthful about it.
And I was saying this on Fox Sports Radio on Friday. Look,
and I'm just gonna and again, I'm just pulling names out.

(47:04):
I don't know. There's nothing to these names. So I'm
just gonna say, like, if Eli Manning's last name was
I don't know Gascon. If it was Eli Gascon, would
Eli Gascon, would he get this much support to be
a Hall of Famer? Probably not? Uh. If it was
Eli I don't know de Lap. If it was Eli
de Lap, what would Eli de Lap get this much

(47:27):
support in order to be a Hall of Famer? I
don't know. Probably not. What if it was Eli Iowa Sam.
If it was Eli Iowa Sam the entirety of his
last name, would Eli Manning get this sort of respect
and this sort of support going into the Hall of Fame? No?
Probably not. It does help. You can say it doesn't,
but it absolutely does. That's a reality of the situation.

(47:51):
Why do you think Eli Manning and that whole memorabilious
scam that was going on, kind of got tossed under
the rug. Didn't really hear a whole lot about that
kind of was suttled outside of court. If Tom Brady
did that exact same thing, he'd be crucified. He'd be
crucified for it, But he will be a Hall of Famer.
Eli Manning is going to the Hall of Fame, and

(48:12):
that's fine. I actually think the most impressive part of
his career is similar to what's the most impressive part
of Lebron James's career before last season, who's never injured.
But he was never injured. You could count on Eli
Manning every single game. Every single time you put him
out there, or you went into a week, you knew

(48:35):
that guy was going to be your starting quarterback. And
if you're big on consistency and if you're big on stability,
it doesn't get more stable than having your same starting
quarterback every single week. So I get him credit for that,
but I do think it is a fair discussion. You
can talk about the two super Bowls. You can say
who those two super Bowls were again, and that's fine.

(48:55):
I totally get it. But let's also bring up these
other big games. So when he's a god, a big
name quarterback, he's you know, he's he's a big game
type player. Well, I don't know. I think every playoff
game is a big game. So if that's the case,
what happened in those other four when he had over
double the number of interceptions and touchdowns? What happened to

(49:16):
those other four? He was terrible. So I just think
it's a fair discussion to have. Now, Eli Manning is
already ahead of the curve. He already knows what his
his future is when it comes to the New York Giants.
The reason I say that is because he had a
press conference on Friday and things got a little bit emotional.
And I want you to listen to this from Eli Manning,

(49:37):
but I want you to pay close attention to the
final seconds of this press conference sound from Eli Manning
because it's a glimpse into the future. I'm walking away
today feeling like a New Yorker, well at least a Northeasternner,
and that says a lot about a guy from New
Orleans who went to Old miss It's been an honor
to be a part of this family, and I hope

(49:58):
that I've represented the organ zation in the way that
you wanted me to for my first day to my last.
Here it comes. For most of my life people have
called me easy. Here we go. Believe me, there's nothing
easy about today. You're ready well. And Tomara always said,
once a giant, always a giant. For me, it's only
a giant. Yeah. There it is, Folks, ladies and gentlemen. Uh,

(50:21):
the brand new back of a no Fear shirt from
Eli Manning. There it is there in Eli Manning. It's
only a giant that will be printed on T shirts
and memorabilia all throughout Giants Stadium for the next ump
teen years. I'm telling you that was staged, all of it,
he wrote out his speech. It was planned. That's gonna

(50:42):
be on the back of a T shirt. It's gonna
be printed on one of those things that you hit
on your way out of the tunnel like play like
a champion today in South Bend. I'm telling you that
was all pre planned. Eli Manning, who's got experience in
the memorabilia business, is already preparing his next career that
will be printed and do not be surprised. And again

(51:03):
when it happens, I want full credit for it. If
Eli Manning copyrights that's last saying that he had in
his press conference. I'm telling you, like, play that last
part again, Iowa, Sam, If you could play that last
part again of Eli Manning, this will be copy written.
He will get the rights to it, and this will
be turned into a marketing and money opportunity for Eli Manning.

(51:25):
I guarantee it. Uh. Let's uh, I guarantee. Let's let's
hear from Eli Manning, that last last part from Eli Manning.
Weltamara always said, once a giant, always a giant. For me,
it's only a giant there. It is right there. Like
I'm telling you, like just you gotta look into the future,

(51:45):
You gotta peak a little bit farther into the future
to find out what's really going on here. People can
get emotional if if they want. There's probably Look, there's
probably some guy, uh you know, an upstate New York
who's a die hard Giants fan and he's got multiple
number ten jerseys and he got emotional and watching that.
I heard that, and I saw marketing dollars. I don't
think I'm being negative. I'm simply pointing out the facts.

(52:06):
I saw marketing dollars, and I saw an opportunity to
make a buck. That's what I saw. Also, It's why
I tell people, don't write your speeches. If it's an
important event, go in there and speak from the heart.
It always sounds better, it sounds more natural. Don't don't
plan it. It sounds fake. All right. I've done best
Man speeches at weddings. I've had to speak at some

(52:26):
some other opportunities and things like that. I never have
any notes. I never write anything down. Have an idea
where you want to start, and have an idea where
you want to finish. And if people give you a
time crunch, tell them to to bleep off because it's
not the Oscars and they're not going to play music
to to call you off the stage. Like. But if
you're trying to plan your next career and it involves

(52:47):
getting something on the back of a no Fear, No
Fear t shirt, you do what you like. Manning did,
easy enough, all right. Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio from

little bit of criticism. We will go to the scene

(53:30):
Jonas knocks Fox Sports Radio comany Alive from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Uh. Coming up in just a
couple of moments, we will catch up with an expert
on and I would think under the radar most successful
sports cities in all of America. I'm gonna say that
right now because if you are a fan of a

(53:52):
city of sports teams like Atlanta or something like that,
and it's been a long time since you've had a winter,
you don't want to hear about the downtimes of Golden
State Warriors this season. Because the Bay Area, in particular
San Francisco sports teams, I don't think they've ever had
a dry spell. Mark Willard is joining us here on
Fox Sports Radio. You hear him on k NBR locally

(54:13):
in the Bay area former Fox Sports Radio legend here
at FSR, and he's kind enough to spend a few
minutes with us here on Fox Sports Radio. Mark, what's happening,
my dude? How are you down there? We're hanging out.
We're just you know, we're dealing with the rough, you know,
seventy two degree weather at this time of year. It's
you know, the traffic, all of that stuff. But I mean,
I'm not here to complain. That's just what we deal with.

(54:34):
Believe it or not. You don't need to see me
because I'm actually here right now. Yeah, yeah, like I'm
I'm a lot of half hour from you. We are
just doing some little family travel because you know, there
are no football games this weekend, so this is the
weekend to be like, hey, let's go do something. Now.
Are you going to be traveling to Miami to cover
the Niners for CANB I I will not. I will

(54:57):
not be at the Cleveland or with the rest of
them Erica's Sports Media because my time Solonic Candr of course,
is starting at six pm in the West, which means
that if I went to Miami Radio Row would be
freaking closed. Yes, yeah, that's and look it's it is
pure chaos there. You've you've done it many times before.

(55:18):
Um I wanted so I brought this up because I
was thinking about this. So Bay Area sports, San Francisco,
when's the last time you guys win a year without
having like a really good team, Because the Giants won
World Series, the Warriors, now the Niners are in the
Super Bowl. Whins that happened. So the last time I
believe that the Bay Area did not win a championship
actually was the last time were in the Super Bowl.

(55:45):
Um and then it was two thousand eight. Last nine
was the last time that the city did not have
at least one participant in the championship round. Because between
the Giants and their three titles, the Warriors and their
three titles, and their appearances in two others um and
then now the forty nine second Super Bowl then him

(56:05):
and egged it to the point where, yeah, they have
not gone to colendar year without a championship round for
an entire decade. That's insane. I mean, there's there's there's
fan bases listening across the country that are that are
throwing things right now. They're so piste off. Like if
you're Atlanta, you got to hear about three. There's a
prop bet on a three lead being blown by Kyle Shanahan,
and yet Mark pops on it says, yeah, we just

(56:27):
have it lost in a long time, as there was
a Brown team that got loose on social media this
week that we played it on our show. Because he
had been hearing about the suffering of the fans for
the last six or seven years, and he absolutely went off.

(56:48):
He's like, six or seven years, that's not suffering. He's like,
I'm so sorry that that you had to deal with
six years. And oh, by the way, during that time,
your basketball and baseball team won six rings. Like what
what on earth are you talking about? He goes to
Brian Row that's the best quarterback. It's so true, and
it's so true, Mark Willard, do you want to us

(57:09):
here on Fox Sports Radio? Former FSR host now with
k M b R up in the Bay Area here
with us on fs are so the Jimmy Garoppolo stuff
I've seen a lot of and I think a lot
of this goes back to it's a good looking guy
played for the Patriots, went to dinner with an adult
film star, got a contract, and what people thought was

(57:30):
too early. So now the latest criticism is, well, he's
not really doing his part. Yes, doesn't have to do anything,
and he's in the super Bowl. I mean, if I'm
Jimmy Garoppolo, I look at it like, hold on a second.
I ripped my knee apart trying to get an extra
yard last year in a blowout game. Um, I went
on that wind streak towards the end of this season
a couple of years ago, which got me paid, and

(57:50):
I outdueled Drew Brees in the Super Dume a couple
of weeks ago, which turned out to be a massive
game as far as playoff seating goes like, I'm okay
with him not having to throw the ball. They're in
the Super Bowl. Why up, Well your humbers, they're right
in your spot on the where the dynamic comes from.
We talked about it earlier in the years. To me,
it's it is a very clear three things. One, it

(58:12):
is that he was a Patriot, and therefore we heard
about him and lose him more so than any other
backup quarterback in the NFL. So there's a lot of
hype there. Then you add in the way he looks
and the fact that every dude is watching football, and
all of a sudden they're watching. Girlfriends want to watch two,
and they're like, what's going on here? And then and then, honestly,

(58:33):
it was the contract, Like there were there are a
few weeks, where's the highest paid player in the NFL
And he had never played a meaningful game before and
and so I think there are a lot of people
who want to root against them. They are looking for
reasons why what they're seeing isn't real or isn't up
to par with someone like Mahomes. And and maybe he's
not Mahomes and that's fine, most people learn't, but to

(58:56):
ignore what he's done this year isn't really week are
him in and the numbers are all over the place.
I mean, he led the league and yards per attempt?
Did he turn it over a little bit too much?
Sure you can make that case necessary early in the year,
but people also forget it's his first full year as
a starter like he's but he's still a young player
in the NFL. So the numbers are there. In the

(59:19):
middle of the year, when the defense got banged up
and they needed him to win shootouts, he did it. Uh,
the team swears by him, like the players love him,
love his leadership. Um, they've got his back all the
way around. And so if you're if you're one of
the people saying, gosh, he doesn't do anything, the suit
is you just lead to the party like there's someone
who just only started watching in the playoffs, and in

(59:42):
those two particular matchups, that's all the pointing diners had
to do, and so why would they do something else.
And it's funny because I remember talking about this. So
there was a Monday night preseason game this year and
it was against the Broncos, and Garoppolo threw a bad
interception on the first play, and so everybody said, hey,
watch out for Nick Mullins. We could have a Nick
Mullins signing as a starter. And I thought to myself,
hold on a second. So to your point, this is

(01:00:04):
his first full year as a starter, and on top
of that, he suffered a devastating knee injury. Multiple ligaments
were torn. So he's got a not only deal with
an offense he's not as familiar as even Nick Mullins is,
but he's also coming off an injury. The fact that
they're at this point, I think he's actually been better
than people give him credit for oh no, no question

(01:00:25):
like and and earlier in the year, even the Bay
Area and the forty nine fans went through that process
that you're kind of talking through right now, which is
trying to figure out exactly how good is he? Um.
There was a preseason practice, UM, and this made the
news rounds in the Bay the practice he threw five

(01:00:46):
straight interceptions in practice, I mean on five consecutive throws. Uh.
And then there's the preseason game you're alluding to and whatnot,
Like he he had some physical work to do to
get his confidence back in his leg and and there
was there was a lot in the early year where
he would throw a pick that you know, you have
some bad ones, um for for sure. UM. And he's

(01:01:09):
I think, you know, working through his decision making process
as a young quarterback. But it started to go away. UM.
In the second half of the year. There was a
brutal schedule stretch where they were playing Green Bay in
Baltimore and New Orleans back to that game, and he
never threw one tick in any of those games. Want
a couple of them, including the New Orleans one. As
you said again, if you want to go into deep analytics,

(01:01:33):
which Sports always does. Right now, you will find if
you really want to just let the Fox and the
Numbers play. He's been fantastic this year. Mark Willard, host
of can BR in the Bay Area, joining us here
on Fox Sports Radio, Jonas Knox here on fs ARE
Kyle Shannon has been awesome and he's gotten a ton
of credit for just the play calling and everything that

(01:01:55):
goes along with it. What's it been like to cover
this Kyle Shanahan era now three is in him in
a Super Bowl there in the Bay Area. Yeah, this
year has been such a such an amazing step for
him because everyone around the league has always respected as
play calling. You always respect the family lineage and what
about of course. Uh, but this year, what I think

(01:02:15):
really came out is is a you know, for the
first time he had a quarterback, he had this guy,
he had a roster in place that he really liked,
and then you started to see the leadership qualities and
those players on the team. Emmanuel Sanders pops to mind
a lot because he experienced both the Broncos and the
forty Niners this year, and while he has shown love
for the Broncos, he's been very outspoken about what Kyle

(01:02:38):
Sanahan has set up in terms of a vibe and
a community within the team. He always talks about how
he showed up and uh, there's loud hip hop music
playing and the coach is wearing easy and he's like,
what what what? What the heck is going on here?
This is something different and said, and so what Shannon

(01:02:58):
has really done I think as we move into kind
of a new age in the NFL, is he's kind
of set up the anti Belichick, Like there's been this
thing for the last ten years. Do you want to
have fun or do you want to win? And this
particular forty Niner team is showing that maybe you can
do a little bit of both. And so not only

(01:03:19):
is he calling great plays and uh and has the
team winning, I think he's also set up what's going
to be a very attractive free agent destination, because that
word is spreading around the league. Last one for you
for Mark Willard here on Fox Sports Radio as somebody
who covers the Niners, lifelong Niner fan. For Niner fans
that are listening to this, what should be the biggest

(01:03:41):
concern outside of the obvious, which is Patrick Moomes in
the offense that you think isn't getting enough play heading
into this game next weekend. Well, I mean it's kind
of an extension of the Homes. It's a particular kind
of play on and it is the play where if
the pass rush gets to Mahomes and instead of tackling him,
he bought is more time and is able to make

(01:04:03):
things hard on the defensive backfield. That defensive backfield's largely
the same group that last year. I had two interceptions
the whole year, which is bananas, like, how is that
even possible that the ball didn't bounced to them four
or five times? And all of a sudden this year
they look good, but when d Ford was out in
the middle of the year, they got exposed a little bit.

(01:04:24):
So I think they're good. They're not great. Um. The
reason they're good is because the pass rush is devastating
and the quarterbacks don't have time. But if Mahomes buys
time and doesn't necessarily run, just buys time and then
looks for that really speedy receiving corps, uh, that's gonna
be hard. It's gonna be hard for the defensive backfield
to stay with them for five or six seconds, seven seconds.

(01:04:47):
If Mahomes plays like that. They could They could absolutely
score there on a lot of those plays. Get him
on Twitter at Mark Underscore t Underscore. Willard can be
our host, one of the real good dude, it's in
the business. We miss you here at Fox Sports Radio. Man,
congrats on all your success. And by the way, happy
belated birthday. Alright, sorry that Lee the Lap had to
harass you on your birthday weekend. Yeah, you know what

(01:05:11):
birthdays at this age think anyway, So I'm mad at
all of your free and bringing it up. But yeah,
all right, take care. Mark. There is Mark Willard, former
Fox Sports Radio alum, here on Fox Sports Radio. Um. Now,
he makes good points about Jimmy Garoppolo, and I swear

(01:05:31):
to god there is something to the fact that he's
a former Patriot. I swear to god. It just look
when you see former Patriots talk on television, don't you
kinda uh well, Teddy Bruski is saying this, Well, of
course he is Teddy, Like, there's something too. They're not
liked even if they're right. Even if a Teddy Bruski
or William McGinnis says something on television because they're a

(01:05:54):
former patriot, people sort of give them the side. I like, yeah,
but we're not really sure about them. I think there
is something to it with some of the negativity that
comes Jimmy Garoppolo's way. All right, Jonas knocks here on
fs ARE from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming
up next, we're going to dive back in. There was
a story in the world of sports. I think people

(01:06:17):
need to readjust how they're evaluating a potential superstar player.
We'll have that for you next year on fs ARE
for all the latest from around the world of sports.
Tom Brokaw, who's on the updates here, and we are
getting Tom brokea on the line. Tom Broke a very
busy man. We only have one phone line here. Mark
Willard is out Tom Broke as in Mr Brokaw, who's

(01:06:38):
on the updates today? There he is. It's up, Dave.
It's a nice stretch. It's called vamping. You have the
thrigger shoe at Elis, send and wig him up. Uh,
I mean, I don't. We don't need to pick on Sam.
He's got the Iowa Minute coming up soon. He had

(01:06:58):
a magical too, that nineteen campaign for football did he
how so well? It closed out with Iowa trashing usc
down the Holiday Bowl, like, oh that exhibition, Yeah, but
it was an exhibition for his guys. And then Iowa
Sam decided to go, uh you know, get bombed on

(01:07:18):
the gas lamp district. Is that is that place sting Array?
Remember there's a place called sting Array back in the day,
sting Ray. Is that what it was called? That was
a wow? Did he did he call him sick the
next day for your show? Wow? Yeah? It is? Uh
you know? Or I think he mentioned something about a

(01:07:39):
place called Pacers up. I'm not mistaken. Pacers is a
not the basketball team Pacers. Then of the airport, is it? Uh?
So it's down by that Uh? I lived in San Diego,
wasn't I did? Like you mentioned the airport. I didn't know.

(01:07:59):
I thought I didn't know that planes also landed there.
I said, it's near the airport. Sorry, it's like right
off one of the offer reps to go downtown. Anyways,
enough of Iowa Sam's extracurricular activities. You could get in
the lead a little bit if you want, uh go
with golf real quick Farmer's Insurance Open Round two is

(01:08:20):
in the books right now. Ryan Palmer, your leader he's
at minus ten Tiger Woods. A couple of first Yeah, sorry,
it's fine. It's fine getting after right now, I get it.
Thinking about Jimmy Jeanie's joh line gets certain people like that.
It's fine. Um. College basketball scene today, number twenty four Rutgers,
they prevailed over in Nebraska seventy to seventy two. NBA

(01:08:43):
scene right now, there's one game, it's in progress. You
touched trailing by thirteen at home to the Mavericks thirty
two to nineteen. Luca don Chet has twelve points already
in this thing. Not a lot of action today. Lakers
are in Philadelphia Tonight. Tip Off time from Philly is
at eight thirty Eastern. Mewom switching over to the National
Football League TMZ reported Robert Kraft told Little Glautlet that

(01:09:04):
they're gonna bring back Tom Brady this upcoming season. Green
Bay Press Gazette expects the Packers to release Jimmy Graham.
If they do do sill Lit'll frip eight million dollars
in cap space and Mike Garafullo reporting that Eric Berry,
the safety, plans on playing here in twenty twenty. Mornakarra Jonae,
what do you got for us? We got what the
Iowa minutes we got leaves. Extracurricular activity from last night.

(01:09:28):
Listen my shows, the pinata of sports radio. Just just
put a blindfold on, take a swing, and whatever pops out.
It's good, all right, That's all I can say. What
are you going to be eating down in Miami? I
know you have bell peppers here and like a gallon
of water? Well I have to if I'm going for
an extended stay. The first thing that I do is
when I throw my bags in the room and all

(01:09:49):
that is, I go to the closest supermarket or grocery
store and I buy an fload flow to water because
I drink minimum two ounces a day of water, So
I gotta get a bunch of water. Um. And then
uh grab some other stuff that I can snack on,
preferably some of the healthier stuff, you know, some power
grains if if it's available to me. I'll try some

(01:10:12):
Cuban food I've never had. I don't I've had a
Cuban sandwich? Is that the same thing? I guess depends
on what are you going to wear a mask when
you fly? Am I going to wear a mask when
you fly? Why would I wear a mask? The coronavirus, man,
the coronavirus? Yeah, was that like it originated? You even
heard about this? It originated in Yeah, I know the virus.

(01:10:33):
They showed some guy passed on on the street with
blood coming out of his mouth. This is an outbreak?
Is it fatal? Yeah, it's fatal. Wo. Yeah. They've had
hundreds of cases already in China, and they've had a
couple of people here in the United States. And now
now you guys know why I disinfect everything because we've
got sick people in here that just eating, cough and

(01:10:55):
chew and do everything else in those keyboard not our
mind totally clean, Christine, I mean you could, uh, you
could do anything off off the surface that I am
currently working off of. Absolutely party. All right, thanks Dave
Jonah knocks here on Fox Sports Radio. UM, alright, so
coming up in we'll call it, we'll call it ten

(01:11:17):
minutes from now. We've got the latest edition of the
Iowa Minute, Um Iowa Sam. I found it. I found
it very strange. What was on one of the television's
earlier today. We will go deep into that detail here
on FS are very strange. It's something that's not ever
been on the television here at Fox Sports Radio, a
sporting event that I didn't even know existed, but of

(01:11:38):
course I was Sam did. So we will have that
for year ten minutes from now. Um the conversation when
it comes to Zion Williamson played again last night. Uh
played pretty well for the Pelicans, but he's on a
minute restriction. Here's my thought on the whole thing. I
understand exactly what the Pelicans are doing. I totally get it.
This is a big time invest This is a guy

(01:12:01):
that could generate millions and millions and millions of dollars
for your organization. You're a place that can't land a
big name free agent, you never really have. You've got
to rely on the draft, and when you strike in
the draft, you got to make it work. Allah Anthony
Davison until he decided he was done playing in New
Orleans and he wanted to go get his way out
of there and and go to l A. So if

(01:12:22):
you're the Pelicans, you've got to play it safe. But
I also think we need to sort of come to
an understanding that just because we haven't seen something work
before doesn't mean that it can't work. I know we've
never seen a player at that size with that explosion
and that athletic ability work at the NBA level and
stay healthy. I get it, But just because we haven't

(01:12:45):
seen it doesn't mean it can happen. And the point
I've made on this is the first time Steph Curry
pulled up on a fast break and shot a twenty
five ft I mean, what do you think the initial
reaction was from the sidelines. They were Piste, what are
you doing? What do you like? We've got a fast
break and opportunity at two on one and you pull
up from ft. I don't care if you made it?

(01:13:06):
What are you doing? And now look where the game's at,
like Zion, maybe that rarefied air, that one percent that
can play at his size and that athletic ability and
that explosiveness and stay healthy and actually work at the
NBA level. Just because we haven't seen it doesn't mean

(01:13:28):
it's not possible. So I just think when you're the
Pelicans and you're monitoring all this, if he continues to
excel at this style of play at that weight and
that size, maybe the conversation goes from We've got to
play it safe with this guy. And make sure he
doesn't get hurt too. Maybe he is that special and
that unique that we can step on the gas a

(01:13:50):
little bit, we can push him a little bit and
we don't have to worry about the same things that
have been the downfall from other players with a similar style.
Jonahs Snocks, Fox Sports Radio. Get me on Twitter at
the Jonas Knocks as we Company Alive here from the
Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. It's easy to say or
more on car insurance with Geico, go to Geico dot
com or call seven Auto. The only hard part figuring

(01:14:10):
out which way is easier? All right, coming up next.
I believe this is the first time and the history
of Fox Sports Radio that this has ever happened. If
you've been an FSR listener, if you've been a sports
Stock radio listener, I think this might be a glimpse
and a piece of history. Find out what we're talking
about next year on fs ARE This song stinks Jonah Stocks,

(01:14:33):
Fox Sports Radio Company Alive from the Geico Fox Sports
Radio Studios. What is this? Uh? Rat Riot or whatever
they're called? What an eighties garbage hara metal? Thinking of
rat and the song is quiet? Or wait? Is it
Quiet Riot. They were a base. I don't know, is
it Quiet Rat? Quiet was a band, and Rat was
a band. It wasn't Quiet Rat, didn't they did, and

(01:14:56):
they were a Quiet Rats superband, Quiet Rat. Now this
is Ozzy os Born. Are you sure it wasn't Quiet Rat.
It was Quiet Riot that one of the first hair
metal bands, and then Rat was early eighties. There you
have it interesting. I know very little about this, so
you know, I'm just just simply trying to get to
the bottom of it here right Like I can't ask
questions here on the show. I hear a bad song,

(01:15:17):
I want to know what what music it is? Yeah,
and that's and again bad music, Like I've never been
a fan Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, get out of my face, Like,
get out of my face. I'd rather hear a cat
crap than listen to Ozzy Osbourne like MoMA, I'm coming home.
That song stinks too. You've got a problem with that?
You can come get me on Twitter too, at lead

(01:15:39):
to lap on Twitter, so where you can find me
if you've got an issue any you you Black Sabbath,
you Black Sabbath ball washers out there at lead to
Lap on Twitter. If you get a problem with me,
come come, come swing your sword here. All right, Um,
it is time for a little something we do here
on the show. There are certain markets, certain sports sports markets,
where you feel like, all right, it's you know, we're

(01:16:00):
a national show. We don't give everybody enough love. There's
not enough enough love here. By the way, speaking of love,
we are going to give some love to a Super
Bowl fifty four participant if nobody else is. We're going
to do it here in a little over ten minutes
from now. But we here on Fox Sports Radio decided,
you know what, we care about the little people so

(01:16:21):
much so we dedicated a segment every single week to it.
And that segment is none other than this, Hey got
a minute? Hey seven oh Iowa like you give a
damn now, presenting the most up to date happenings from

(01:16:42):
Iowa's four Division one teams, ladies and gentlemen, thousand pinks.
It's the Iowa Minute. Here's Iowa Sam. All right, there
he is Iowa Sam. Yeah, all right, Jonas, listen, I
gotta I gotta spill the beans here on Iowa State.
Make no bs about it. Up to the minute, grain

(01:17:02):
T didn't even say that that was that was what
was sponsoring the bean talk. But it was up to
the minute grain prices. Let's let's snake no beans about it.
Iowa State has taken That was the worst entrance I've
ever had. It is that was the worst introduced to
start over. I totally bungled it. You want to start over? Alright,
let's I'll retoss. Do you want to restart the imaging
and just restart the whole imaging and everything. Let's just

(01:17:23):
start Let's all right, so we'll reset, all right, just
stop it all, stop it all. We'll go straight from
scratch and we'll cut this on the podcast live radio here. Man,
it's it's great to be able to see behind the
scenes and how this stuff work. Could have just pressed on.
I mean, but I would also like to point out
before we do restart this whole segment, for the first
time ever in Fox Sports Radio's history, there was women's

(01:17:44):
gymnastics on one of the TVs here. We didn't address that. Yeah,
it was Iowa Penn State. Why were we watching? We
had Rutgers men's basketball on. They're playing Nebraska. Gavin Kinsel,
producer who's in here. He was betting the game and
it came on after the rudgast. Okay, I really nastics? Yes, okay,
if it wasn't Iowa, would you have switched the TV?
I did switch it eventually, eventually after you got we needed.

(01:18:07):
I don't really follow IWA women's gymnastics. I don't know
much about them, all right, So can we restart the
same great athletes and shows? Yes? They really, they really are,
all right? Uh, Jonas knocks Fox Sports Radio. Ladies and gentlemen,
it is time for a little something we do on
the show called this. Hey got a minute? Hey heaven?

(01:18:28):
Oh Iowa like you give a damn now, presenting the
most up to date happenings from Iowa's four Division one teams,
Ladies and gentlemen, thousand pigs, it's the Iowa Minute. Yes,
here he is Iowa Sam. I almost feel like we
just heard this intro. Apparently there are second chances in

(01:18:48):
live radio. Okay, here we go, Jonas, I gotta spill
the beans here on Iowa State. Make no beans about it.
By the way, Bean Talk brought to you by up
to the minute Grain Price. Alright, Iowa State has taken
a seat on the struggle bus, and it's being controlled
by an insane Dennis Hopper. There will be no exiting

(01:19:09):
the struggles for the Cyclones. Imagine this, Jonas, Picture this.
The Big twelve is just a huge brawl right now.
You know this? Uh, we got Wildcats brawling with Jayhawks
and pretty much everyone else is beating up on Iowa
State like a filthy throw rug. It's ugly. It's gotten
real ugly. Imagine finally getting a conference win. Iowa State
does over lowly Oklahoma State last week. Then you're plucked

(01:19:33):
out of the Big twelve, Jonas, and sent to Auburn,
Alabama to play the number sixteen Auburn Tigers. Auburn wins
it the Big twelve sec challenge, the Tigers eighty Iowa
State seventy six. Listen, Jonas, It's just life isn't fair.
It wasn't even that close. It was a four point
deficit in the end, but Auburn led by as many

(01:19:56):
as eighteen, so this was not a close game fight.
So what are we gonna do? Play the violins for
Iowa State because I gotta play a tough schedule. They're
just well, okay, here we go. Cologn's Racier Bolton he
led all scores with twenty three points. But it wasn't enough.
I was stayed is nine and ten. That is uh,
that is out of whack. All right, let's press on
your running out of time. Number nineteen Iowa coming off
a midwek win over number twenty four Rutgers Hawks are

(01:20:18):
not fourteen and five. They finish up a home standing
Monday against Wisconsin. Iowa centered Luca Garza continues to impress
twenty eight points against Rutgers. How about that Jonas he
is the Big ten's leading score. Okay, all right, you
enough of this we we we heard enough about io
and I say you folks, only tune into the Iowa
Minute to get these latest scoop of creamed corn. You

(01:20:42):
could eat there on all the hoop happenings in the
Missouri Valley Conference. All quickly, listen, guys, Northern Iowa got
picked off on the road last week sixty six to
Southern Illinois supporter Moser Sister Geane. You remember them and
the loyala Ramblers. Um they are atop the m VC.
They went to a Final four trip a few years ago,
you remember that. But guess what they got to visit

(01:21:05):
the McLoud Center that's where you and I play, So
we'll figure out. It's more of this NBC. You get
a little separation there and Drake. They took care of
business against Evansville earlier this week, and um they will
take on, Uh, they will take on. We're running in
a time. Oh my good Missouri State tomorrow. That's the
Isowa man. There it is ladies and downam in the
Iowa minute. And he delivers again here on Fox Sports Radio.

(01:21:26):
All the hats going on. The National Footballing Super Bowl
fifty four is right around the corner. NFL Networks Mike
Garo follow reporting safety air Barrier plans. I'm playing next season.
Sam can be said for Tom Brady, we just don't
know where. However, TMZ reporting earlier that Robert Kraft said
he plans on bringing Brady back for another season. Green
Bay Press Gazette reports that the Packers are expected to

(01:21:49):
release Jimmy Graham. If they do so, they'll open up
eight million dollars in cap space for the upcoming year.
Farmer's Insurance open Ryan Palmer's your leaders at minus ten
Tiger Woods. He's actually in third place right now. He's
just two strokes behind. College basketball scene and the NBA
is the loaded deck, Dallas leading at Utah right now
forty five. Luca don chech as fourteen points of this thing.

(01:22:11):
Donovan Mitchell has ten of his own. I'm David Gascon.
I think this is the biggest no brainer, at least
one of the biggest no brainers in the NFL. I
hope that it happens. I think it would be fantastic
for the National Football League and fantastic for you and
me and everybody who is a fan of football. So

(01:22:34):
we'll get to that here. Coming up in just a
couple of moments, Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio. You can
listen to this show on the I Heart Radio app
on all of our Fox Sports Radio affiliates wherever you
are taking part in the program. We always appreciate a

The Senior Bowl is a final and Justin Herbert is
your m v P of the Senior Bowl. So I
don't know what that does too. I saw um there
was a thought out there that five quarterbacks. One executive thought,

(01:23:17):
five quarterbacks, we're gonna go in the top fifteen. But
if we're all looking at Joe Burrow going number one,
then the conversation gets interesting when it comes to to
A or Justin Herbert at two or three. But I
would imagine this week his performance in the Rose Bowl. UH,
A massive month for Justin Herbert, who really really impressed.

(01:23:37):
So he is the m v P of the Senior
Bowl uh and most likely a top ten pick in
the NFL Draft coming up in April. So um. And
by the way, the hell's the NFL thinking? Like having
the draft stage in the water at the Bellaggio? What
are we doing? Like what What's what's going on here?

(01:24:02):
At some point? Haven't we gone far enough? Like like
like what what is it? Like? I feel like, are
we gonna watch the movie Summer Rental with John Candy
and they're gonna try and win a race so they
can they can stay on their vacation together like I did, Like,
what are we doing here? You're having the draft stage

(01:24:23):
on the water the Bellaggio and players are gonna take
like boats when they get selected. Like that we have
officially jumped the shark. I'm all about Vegas and I'm
all about you know, uh, excess and and everything that
goes along with it. But my god, man, like, I mean,
what what what are we gonna do next? Are we

(01:24:44):
gonna have like like Carrot Top and the Blue Man
Group play chicken in the pool afterwards? Like what's going
on here? Like like Marco Polo with blindfolds on and
it's two members of Thunder from down Under? Like what what?
Like I don't, I don't, I don't get it? What like? What? Why?
Why did anybody think this is a good idea? Uh?

(01:25:06):
But I'm gonna watch and I can't wait. I cannot wait.
So that will be a lot of fun. Okay, the
NFL Pro Bowl. No, I know what you're thinking, and
I agree with you. Since the Pro Bowl and I
know this is the first thing you thought of. Since
the Pro Bowl has left Hawaii and since gone to Orlando,
I no longer am interested. I hear you, I feel you,

(01:25:27):
and to a large extent, I agree. I agree with you.
I think Hawaii got the shaft. I am fortunate enough
to be friends with our affiliate Fox Sports radis affiliate
in Hawaii. Uh, Fox Sports, Fox Sports Hawaii. Out there
am in Honolulu, great listeners, great fans, um Rick Hamadah,

(01:25:49):
Scotty Scotty out there, Scotty B. John Matthews. They run
a great program over there. The news station over there.
I've popped on several times in the last few weeks
talking Super Bowl and all sorts of fun stuff. They
are great people and the same discussion comes up almost
every single time. Why did the Pro Bowl leave? Well
because the stadium was outdated and the okay, well, the

(01:26:11):
O dot Co had overflowing toilets and the Raiders continue
to play there and there was a baseball diamond there
three out of eight games this season. So give me
a break, Like, I mean, come on, like I get it.
But we played a preseason game in Honolulu earlier this year,
just a few months ago. It was Rams Cowboys. If
it was okay for a preseason game when jobs are

(01:26:31):
on the line, why wouldn't it be okay for an
All star game? Doesn't make any sense. But there is
something that will be interesting happening at the Pro Bowl
this year. They're going to experiment with giving teams the
option of one play, which will basically be a fourth

(01:26:52):
and fifteen. It's to replace the onside kick. So what
they're giving teams the ability to do either the a
f C or the NFC roster is they're giving them
this one play, it'll be a fourth and fifteen. So
if you want to try an on site kick instead
of the actual on site kick, it's a fourth and fifteen.
If you pick up the fifteen yards, you keep the football.

(01:27:15):
If you don't pick up the fifteen yards and you
come up short, the opposing team gets the ball wherever
the attempting team came up short. So example, fourth and
fifteen and you only pick up thirteen, well that team
would get the ball at that thirteen yard mark wherever
that is. So the a F. You remember the a F.
That was the league that lasted about forty five minutes. Uh,

(01:27:37):
and you knew they were in trouble because they had
to rely on an NHL owner to give him some
financial backing. So the a F actually did something a
little bit similar, And I think this is a phenomenal idea.
I am not alone. John Elway, who's the Broncos general
manager Hall of Famer, also said the same thing quote,

(01:28:00):
there are not many on side kicks that were recovered
this past year. So we've got to try and do
something where you have a chance to catch up. I
look forward to talking about this with the compet Competition
Committee and I can at least give my opinion and
then they do what they want with it. End quote.
It is to me one of the biggest no brainers

(01:28:21):
in the off season. Like, if you're talking about rule changes,
we can we can have a conversation about past interference
until you're blue in the face. That's fine, Look until
they actually get rid of that rule to where if
you fumble a ball out of bounds, you lose possession
and the other team gets it plus twenty yards until
they get rid of that dumb rule. I don't want
to hear anything about rules, but when it comes to this,

(01:28:43):
it is the easiest thing to see that you can
easily fix and it has a major impact on the game.
Look at it like this, Why do you like fantasy football?
Because it's constant hope. Even in a blowout game, you

(01:29:03):
have hope. Like why do you like watching the Golden
State Warriors from a couple of years ago when they're
trailing in a game, because you've got hope. There's a
difference between a team like the Bears trailing three touchdowns
and a team like the Chiefs. Do you know what
it is? Hope? With Kansas City, there's hope that they

(01:29:25):
can get back into the game, real hope and they
can try and win this game with the offense that
they built. Hope is everything. The second you lose it,
you're no longer interested trying to win somebody back in
your life. If they give you a little glimmer of hope,
that's all you need. That's all you need. Like hope

(01:29:47):
is everything. And what the on side kick was was hope.
If you were trailing in a game and you wanted
to try and get back into said game, you had
an on site kick in the possibility of recovery and
getting ball back and trying to go tie or win
a game late. But with the redesign of the onsite
kick over the past couple of years, it's almost impossible

(01:30:10):
for teams to recover it, so it's kind of a
waste of a play. I heard the NFL say a
couple of years ago. The reason we're changing the point
after attempt and making it from a twenty yard attempt
to a thirty three yard attempt is because it was
kind of a waste of time. Nobody was really interested.
It was so automatic, and kickers have become so good

(01:30:30):
that there was just kind of, oh whatever, that's where
the onsite kick is. So if we change the point
after attempt and made it a more difficult thing to do,
why wouldn't we change the onside kick attempt? If the
goal is present an exciting play every single play. Don't
just look at it as an onside kick. You know

(01:30:51):
the way we've changed that, nobody's gonna recover. Let's just
get rid of it. No, no, that's not the answer.
Don't just look at the point after from twenty yards
and say, ah, you know that's you know, it's kind
of a mean this play. Oh, we'll just get rid
of it. No, no, no, make it exciting. They moved
it back the point after got exciting you all of
a sudden turned the on side kick into a one

(01:31:11):
play fourth and fifteen. And if you pick it up,
you keep the football. I am all in. I'm totally in.
And they're going to be experimenting with it at the
Pro Bowl. And if you're all about safety and you're
all about these collisions on kickoffs, which has been a
big talking point for the NFL, and I get it

(01:31:31):
if you've ever watched a game in person and been
close enough to the sidelines. Back in the day, kickoff
like you put your most savage players on kickoff. You
called him wedge breakers. Hey, there's three guys their arm
in arm and they're trying to block what's my goal?

(01:31:52):
All right, you're the coma kaze. We want you to
go in there and explode one of those guys and
try and break up the wedge. And what happened most
of the time those guys got laid out and generally
walked away with a headache because they were going one
on three. The NFL and football decided, listen, this is
too reckless, way too dangerous. We've got to change things here.
The problem is they did the same thing for the

(01:32:12):
on site kick. It's a dangerous play also, but now
it's become kind of a meaningless play because it's so
impossible for teams to even recover unless you're young way
coup of the Falcons and you do it twice in
a game on on Thanksgiving I think it was, then
that's just kind of a random occurrence. That's kind of
a random thing. But if you all of a sudden

(01:32:33):
it's a one play pick up fifteen yards and you
keep the football kind of play, we've taken a non
interesting or an uninteresting play, something we totally overlook and
we just assume the game is over with the way
the rules have been changed, and you've turned it into
can't miss football again. You've done what you've done with

(01:32:55):
the point after attempt to where you can't just get
up and go to the other room thinking it's auto matic.
It's a twenty yard field goal. They never missed point
after tries, No how many extra points need to be
missed before you realize the NFL hit a home run.
With that, it's rough for the kickers, but the NFL
hit a home run. So if you're the NFL and
you've got an opportunity, like John Elways said, to give

(01:33:18):
people hope, give teams hope, give them a chance to
catch up in a game, and all they need to
do is convert a fourth and fifteen play, It's it's
a no brainer to me. The counter to that would be, well,
why do you want to bail these teams out that
are trailing it's not bailing them out. How many teams
in the NFL have successful fourth and fifteen plays, Come on,

(01:33:42):
it's not bailing them out. It's still a difficult task,
but at least it's one that you give them a
legitimate opportunity with. And if you're a fan, you should
absolutely want it because it makes the games more interesting.
If you're a gambler, you should absolutely want it because
it creates the possibility that you could win your bet.
It creates excitement. If you play fantasy football, you should

(01:34:03):
absolutely want it because if your receiver makes that fifteen
yard catch, guess what, that's extra fantasy points that you
wouldn't have gotten on the waste of time that is
the on site kick currently in the NFL. I think
it's a no brainer. Watch the Pro Bowl. They're gonna
experiment with it, and if the NFL is smart, I
think they present this in the off season and they

(01:34:24):
make it happen. Ditch the on site kick. It's a
waste of time. Give teams the opportunity a one off
fourth and fifteen play. If they convert, they get the
ball back. If they don't, the other team takes the
ball Wherever they finish and come up short. Jonas Knocks
Fox Sports Radio from the Getico Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Get me on Twitter at the Jonas Knocks at the

(01:34:45):
Jonas Knocks on Twitter. All right, Coming up next, I'm
gonna throw a theory at an analyst, one of the
best in the business regarding a quarterback in the NFL.
He's either gonna laugh at me or he's gonna say,
you know, nobody else has said that that that's a
decent idea. Find out who it is next year on FSR.

(01:35:07):
This song stinks. Uh, Jonas Knocks here on Fox Sports Radio,
coming to you live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Coming up in Uh, we'll call it little over ten
minutes from now here on fs ARE. We're gonna go
in the gutter. All right, We're gonna go in the gutter.
As I try to maintain my broadcast professionalism, and I

(01:35:30):
am the only one on this show. If you need
proof of that, do not go anywhere. That's ten minutes
from now here on Fox Sports Radio. Um. So we
are looking to catch up Bruce Gradkowski, former NFL quarterback
now an analyst for Pro Football Focus. Always kind enough
to spend a few minutes with us here on a Saturday.

(01:35:50):
So hopeful to catch up with Bruce here coming up
in just a couple of minutes from now, because I
gotta throw a hot take of Bruce. All right, this
is I like doing this because Bruce. Uh and and
again appreciate a few minutes your time on a Saturday.
Jonas Stocks, How are you, Bruce? I'm good, brother. We're
just skiing for the weekend with the family. We do
this every year. Um so it's pretty cool. I just

(01:36:12):
started learning about five years ago because uh, I was
still playing football. So I told my wife, I said,
stop looking that I can't get hurt skiing because you've
been doing her whole life. So at least now I
can actually mess around and enjoy it a little bit. Okay, now,
where are you skiing? Because you live in Ohio? Correct? Yeah, yeah,
so we live in Ohio. We're way up in Michigan

(01:36:34):
Boying Highlands. Um so it's it's a really nice spot.
You know. It's actually like a Toledo alumni weekend. So
we do it every year. It's been fun and we're
starting to get our kids on it at our six
four and two because I'm let them to learn early,
so they're not like me, you know, stumbling over themselves,
falling down the hill when they're older. It's like one
of those it's like learning an instrument. If you start

(01:36:55):
at a young age, you can pick it up quicker
than you can later on. So you know, if if
you want to learn piano, you better start when you're
like five years old, or else is gonna be real
trouble later on in your life, no doubt. That's why
you know our daughter Lily, she's sick, she is, she's
takings and she actually it's awesome to see her this weekend,
really go down to hill by herself. And I'm like, man,

(01:37:17):
that's impressive. Better than me right now? Um, all right,
so let me try and impress you, all right, much
like your daughter down uh skiing there at the Toledo
Reunion of Michigan. Let me go. I want to try
and impress you. I don't know if this is a
borderline hot take, but Philip Rivers decided he's moving to Florida.

(01:37:38):
He wants to be closer to family. The Chargers maybe
in the need for a quarterback next season, and the
name that's been out there, the big name has been
Tom Brady. That's been something that's been thrown out there.
Cam Newton has been thrown out there. What if? What
if the name that actually ends up generating some buzz
is actually in fact Aaron Rodgers. Because I know the

(01:38:01):
Packers love Aaron Rodgers and he's their franchise quarterback, but
he is getting up there in age. It felt like
the offense went away from him as the main focal
point of the offense this season. Matt Lafleur la Flour
spoke out against the team this past week and their
lack of passion going into Santa clar against the forty
Niners last week. I don't think it's that far fetched

(01:38:23):
to think that maybe Aaron Rodgers also finishes his career elsewhere. Well,
I mean that's interesting because him and Bannick and Patrick
just bought a home out there, correct, Yes, So I
mean I don't think Aaron Rodgers wouldn't mind it much.
I just think if you're green Day, uh, you can't
let that happen. I was thinking about that this the

(01:38:43):
other day as well. I Mean, I know the noise
about Tom Brady going there, but I just don't know
if it's it's that much of a difference for Philip Rivers,
you know, and that's and he was done unbelievable things
throughout his career and he's one of the goats of
all time. But I just think at this point in
his career, Um, yes, it might generate some fan base

(01:39:06):
and you know, some excitement for them, But I also
look too, I mean, if you want, uh you know
Stewart coach Lynn is always speaking about protective football and
operate your offense. Is it just Tyrod Taylor and you
use the cap space to build the team of your
opaneeds around you. Um yeah, I don't know. It's not
your long term fix, but maybe it's a fix for

(01:39:28):
the next few years. I don't know, man, I just
you know, I'm a huge fan of Philip Rivers too.
I just love his competitive his whole career and stuff
like that. But I'm not I'm just thinking, if you're
the organization, just like Bill Belichick wanted to do a
few years ago and keeping Jimmy g knowing nothing against
Tom Brady, but Belichick's looking at it like, look, I'm
gonna be coaching a lot longer than Tom Brady's playing.

(01:39:50):
I need to try to set us up for success,
so it seemed like he wanted to keep Jimmy Gee
and then we all know how that went. Um, so
you always have to think of the future. But it'll
be interesting to see how that shapes up with man
Aaron Rodgers out to l A Uh. That's definitely an
interesting take, and I'm not mad at it for for sure. Well,
and I totally agree with you. I don't know at

(01:40:12):
this point, I don't know what the differences between the
Philip Rivers and Tom Brady. I know the turnovers. Tom
Brady doesn't make the reckless throws at Rivers does, but
I don't think they're that far off from being kind
of equals at this point in their career. And that's
kind of how I feel. I mean, I wouldn't. I
would love to see it, just because I'd love to
see the difference. And you're right, that's that's played. The

(01:40:34):
main point is Tom Brady takes care of the football
and now this past year, as I was great in
all the clothes to the NFL for PFF. You know
Tom Brady though, doesn't He doesn't like to get hit
and look, I've retired a few years back, so I'm
you know, I'm not talking any crap here, because he's
played a lot longer, had a much better career than me.
But when your body and your abilities start to do

(01:40:57):
indo a little bit, you don't want to afford to
take those hits. You're trying to get the ball out
of your hands, and we've seen top right just throw
the ball away at times that it was kind of
a risky throwaway and it was like no one in
the area, or it hits up at d N's hands
and it's like, why did you do that? So you know,
at this point is clear he's not one of the
risk taking some hits. So he needs a good offensive

(01:41:18):
line in front of him, uh, for sure. Bruce Skrandkowski
joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, former NFL quarterback
now an analyst with Pro Football Focus here on FS
are so um. Before we talked last week, it was
before the conference championship games. We know it's the Chiefs,
we know it's the forty Niners. Your big takeaway from
Patrick Mahomes and watching the tape and breaking down his

(01:41:39):
performance last week for Tennessee was what I mean, He's
just remarkable, right, I mean, he could do it all
with his arm, his legs the main thing though, I
think over the last two weeks, the last playoff games, uh,
Patrick Mahomes has generated energy and uh you know the
comeback with his legs, and yes, he could make all

(01:42:00):
all the throws with his arms. But what's been crushing
to the defense is it times when it's third down
and Mahomes tucks it runs for the first or kicks
up twenty yards when it's not a call quarterback run.
Those are places that just you know, it crushes the defense.
And he brought a lot of life and energy to
the offense, to the fan base the last few weeks

(01:42:21):
when they were down and he made significant runs. So Toatrick,
Mahomes is the type of guy. Yes, he'll say, I'm
not as you know, I'm not as good as a
runner as Lamar Jackson. Well, you're don't have to be
like to be athletic enough to to to run, to
be able to run, but also pick the right times
to run. And he does that and I think that's
what crushing the defense was. Now. You know, looking at

(01:42:44):
this matchup, I think we're in for a treatment. You're
talking about this Niners defense. That man, it's just been
being able to put pressure on the quarterback with just
by rushing. For you know, you've got Richard Sherman in
the back end and that secretary that's great at reading concepts. Um.
You know. So I'm looking for Andy reading Mahome to
be aggressive and actually test riskus Sermont downfield. But can

(01:43:09):
Case match up and block and keep the d D
N Bosa and then off of Mahomes. So it's gonna
be a great matchup to watch. Um. I just think though,
the Manners are more complete teams. So I don't know
what you thought on that day. Yeah, Well, I initially
liked the Niners last week, and then I do the
same thing. I did the same thing in the Denver

(01:43:29):
Seattle Super Bowl. I get enamored with the offense and
all the weapons, and and I go against what I
initially thought. I thought Niners right off the right out
of the gates. And now that I've thought about it,
and part of this is I really would love to
see Andy Reid win a Super Bowl. I think that's
the only thing missing from from being a Hall of
Famer for him at this point. But to your to
what you said earlier, I think these are I think

(01:43:51):
it's the best team in the NFC, and I think
it was the best team in the a f C
because while Baltimore got all the love, I think Kansas
City was the best team down the stretch and I
think they're the best team to come out of this conference.
This is as good of a matchup as you could
ask for in the Super Bowl. Absolutely, I mean, this
is what we want to see, and I think it's
gonna come down to we. I want to see the quarterback,

(01:44:14):
but of course, you know, like you're talking about, it's
hard for me to go against my homes because man,
he is so dynamic. He's so fun to watch. I
love seeing the playmaking he can make. But then I
also look at the Niners being the more complete team,
and I think it's up to Jimmy g. You know,
if he could play a solid game, not turn the
football over, be smart. Now you don't want him to

(01:44:36):
play hesitant, but I think cal Sanahan will have some
awesome plays drawn up. I mean, same with Andy Reid.
I really think we're in first thought out. Even though
this Niners defense is tough, I think we're gonna see
a lot of points scored, which I hope so um
and I hope we see my homes go off, But
it's gonna come down a few big plays and a

(01:44:57):
few big shouse by the Niners defense, and and I
think the Niners can pull it off. Bruce, last one
before I let you go and you get back to
the slopes there and skiing with the family. Um, Jimmy Garoppolo,
and I know that he's only thrown the ball. He
threw the ball eight times last week, and he's in
the Super Bowl, and so you're seeing some of the
push back on well, he hasn't really had to do

(01:45:17):
with a whole lot, and they're carrying him. But man,
I actually think Garoppolo may have been a little bit
better this year than people give him credit for, considering
he's coming off a major knee injury from a year
ago and it's his first full year as a starter,
and here they are in the super Bowl. What was
your takeaway in watching all of Jimmy Garoppolo this year,

(01:45:38):
including these playoff games, what do you make of a
season so far? Well, that's a great point because think
about it. Look how Carson Wentz came back being down
with it with the knee, and then the next year Jimmy.
Don't forget he's coming off a major knee surgery and
ton a c l and to have the year he's had. Yes,
he has a good team around him, but he has
made significant plays or to win football games. I think

(01:46:01):
of the New Orleans Saints games, and the New Orleans
Saint game keeps coming back in my mind. And the
thing about Jimmy g like, even when I grade him
for PFF, who always have a turnover worthy play, whether
it's a fumble in the pocket or errants roll. But
the thing about the guy, he has the it factor.
He has that capability to make plays when you need to.

(01:46:23):
He has that swaggers want in the locker room, in
the huddle. Guys fol him. He just knows how to
make plays. So I'm a fan of his. I think
he does a tremendous job. Let's also not forget too,
It's not like he has a ton of starts under
his belt. He's still very young in his career. He
missed a whole season last year. So of being the
piste position he is right now, I think he's perfect

(01:46:45):
for Kyle Shanahan and this team in this offense um
and look, Ky say they throw the ball a lot
over the middle, and being like a smaller quarterback like
I was too is it's hard to see linebackers and
defenders at some point. And I think that's why where
a lot of his turnovers are coming, you know, so
you know, keep an eye on that. But I hope
he protects the football. I hope we have a shootout

(01:47:05):
and it's just gonna be exciting to watch. I can't wait.
Bruce Gradkowski, former NFL quarterback, now an analyst for Pro
Football Folcus. You can get him on Twitter at b
Gradkowski five. Bruce, you're gonna be in Miami for the

So I'm gonna come harass you. If you don't mind, Yeah,
hit me up. Let's let's hook up. So do I

(01:47:27):

the slopes or do I go with like a cappuccino.
Let me just tell you this. If it's not a cocktail,
you are sitting on a Saturday, all right, this is you.
I have a cocktail, look at the slopes. Take it
all in and then you've got South Beach next week.

Dodger Stadium calling you to gas man. I do not
that was a good one. The guy, what is so?
How did it go? The guy saw your name media credential.
I uh so, yeah. I was my first game last
season at Dodger Stadium and it was right after one

(01:48:58):
of years show. Actually was right after your show, and
I went down there. I think first pitch was at
seven o'clock and I went down to the to the
press box and I got there two hours before first pitch,
and so there's no line, but showed my credential to

(01:49:20):

Thanks Dave. We will have in the Gutter with David
gascon coming up here. I want I want to give

(01:51:05):
Dave full time for in the Gutter here on Fox
Sports Radio. So we'll get to that here, uh, coming
up and we'll call it less than ten minutes from
now here. On fs ARE, they're showing highlights of Super
Bowl one on the NFL network. And the first thing
I thought of was when did the first ever batch
of Super Bowl squares come out? Like to where you

(01:51:27):
you picked the square at a Super Bowl party? Like
who invented that? Like who who came up with the
idea of Super Bowl squares? I would coach, you don't
need to know. I'm not asking you all right, like
you're at the Senior Bowl. Do your thing. You don't
need to butt in every time. You can't get Belichick
to talk during the season, but for some reason he
wants to jump on my show and have have a
conversation every week. It hasn't been addressed I'm talking about

(01:51:49):
it now. But super Bowl squares the first like, like,
who do you who do you think it was that? Dave?
Have you ever won super Bowl squares? Gascont Have you
ever won a Super Bowl squares? I've won one, but
I will say a colleague and I Eddie Garcia, and
we both live in the same town down the Harbury
in San Pedro, and anybody knows along shoreman knows that

(01:52:10):
they are deep in cash. You got cash in hand,
And Jonah said, kid, you not squares down there in
San Pedro on the docks are going for like a
hundred dollars of square. Kiss my ass, What do you
mean hundred dollars of square? Yes, I am dead. Super
Bowl squares for a hundred bucks. What's the payout? It's
it's large. They I mean they got tons of guys.
I don't know what the exact path, but it's in

(01:52:31):
the thousands. Okay, So they do so first quarter, second quarter,
at the end of the first quarter, second quarter, third quarter,
fourth quarter, So second quarter and fourth quarters of the
highest payouts first and third of the two loss. By
the way, for people that have never played Super Bowl Squares,
here's that works. It's a grid, you write your name
into a bunch of blank squares. Then they do a

(01:52:54):
raffle and there's a number that coincides and a team
on top of each number. So to paint a picture
for you, if you're looking at a piece of paper,
a blank piece of white paper with a bunch of
squares on it. On the left side going vertically would
be the forty Niners, and it would be zero through nine,
and there'll be nine rows or ten rows rather of numbers,

(01:53:15):
and then over the top, if you had the Chiefs,
it would be zero through nine and whatever square you
wrote your name in, if the number draws that, those
are the squares you get. So if your square is
forty Niners one and Chiefs four, you need the last
number on the score for the forty Niners to have

(01:53:36):
a one and the Chiefs to have before. So if
it's halftime and the lead over the Chiefs, you would win.
I've wanted a couple of times, and I actually wanted
to wear it rolled over to where it was the
same score at halftime, same ending of the score at halftime,
and then it was the same score at the end
of the game, and I think it was I think

(01:53:56):
it was the Super Bowl in which the Giants beat
the Patriots when the Patriots are undefeated, and that was
that was a pretty good payout um. And I have
no idea what happened to the money. I really don't
because drink it. I was so bombed. I just obliterated.
But but I I did well in that super Bowl
because I like the Giants, and I had the Giants
on the money line in that Super Bowl against the Patriots,

(01:54:17):
so that that was a good one. But I'm just
wondering when did they first come out? Like who thought
of the idea? Because it's you don't have to know
anything about gambling. All you do is write your name
in a square and it's luck of the draw, Like like,
you don't have to know anything about gambling, and if
you hit, it's a lot of fun. But a hundred
bucks of square in San Pedro Jesus. But just I mean,

(01:54:40):
you brought it up earlier in your show Who's the
degenerate that has a line? Well, Kyle Shanahan blew a
somebody somebody who's just somebody, who's who's a scumbag who
loves being negative and and that's that's their go to
like it's so bad. Have you ever had a Super
Bowl prop bet regret? Like anything that you you wanted

(01:55:01):
to bet on you just didn't want to pull the trigger. Um,
oh that's a good one, there, I can. There was
one that I'm not thinking. Oh man, I only bring
it up because I do have one at the top
of my head. And there was great odds on Devin
Hester returning the opening kickoff, and I wanted to fire

(01:55:21):
on it, and I got cold feet. It's exactly what
everybody should have had cold feet because they should have
kicked away from him like that. Yeah, that that was
just a dumb strategy by by Tony Dungeane company. Yeah,
everybody should have kicked away from it. I want to
say that I had like a player to score the
first touchdown or maybe it was maybe it was safety

(01:55:42):
as being the first score of the game. Yeah, I
think I think so, I think that that was one
of them. And I didn't bet it, and I looked
at and said, you're an idiot. So then I kept
trying to chase the bet and I just ended up
losing everything. So yeah, but whoever thought of Super Bowl squares?
Good for you? Man? Like that is or or woman
that that is a good for you, because that is
that's a fun way to to be a degenerate. On

(01:56:04):
Super Bowl Sunday. I don't know why people don't do
it for more games. Want I mean, do it for
the Pro Bowl? I do for the Pro Bowl. You
guys want in dollar dollar square for the Pro Bowl
the w n B A All right, that's good. WV
you got it. And you know what, we'll actually do
a live drawing of that coming up in our five
of the program, our five of the January January, we

(01:56:24):
will do a live drawing the w NBA squares here
on fs ARE here you're a savage all right? Uh?
Jonas knocks here Fox Sports Radio from the Geico Fox
Sports Radio Studios. Or it's easy to say or more
on car insurance with Geico, go to Geico dot com
call eight seven Auto. The only hard part figuring out
which way is easier. All right, we're gonna go on
the gutter. I'm gonna be a professional. Somebody else will

(01:56:47):
not be find out who it is next year on
fs ARE, get your mind out of the gunner. That
freaking voodoo music, yell Huey Lewis Huey Lewis, what got

(01:57:08):
a super soaker on his belt buckle? All right, Jonas
Knox here on Fox Sports Radio comany you live from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Uh, coming up a
little over ten minutes from now here on fs are.
By the way, I you're wondering why we're talking about

(01:57:28):
Huey Lewis. Lead to Lap, our executive producer, revealed last
week that his dad was in Back to the Future.
He's the drummer for the pin Heads, which is Michael J.
Fox's band at the at one of the beginning scenes,
and Huey Lewis is the guy who tells them they're
too loud, and so we just looked it up and yeah,
there he is. Robert de Lap, the drummer for the Pinheads. Uh,

(01:57:49):
right there on on a well known, multimillion dollar making movie.
And lead to Lap decided to wait about ten years
into his Fox Sports Radio career before he were be
all that. Last week during a break in the kitchen,
the Hell's wrong with You? Lee, a story like if
you know, if if if if my dad owned Wendy's.

(01:58:11):
Don't you think I would have brought that up at
this point in time? Like if I had somebody famous
attached to my name. Don't think I would have brought
that up at this point ten years later, legoes. Oh,
by the way, my dad was in back to the future.
What you just got a residual check this week? Like
somebody ho how much? I think it was, like, yeah,
it's like somebody walks in and goes, hey, by the way,
you know my great uncle is a Lincoln. You've been

(01:58:34):
here ten years. You're just now revealing at us. I
would have modified some of my material at some point
during my run here Jesus. All right, Um, speaking of which,
coming up again ten minutes from now, somebody you are
down on in the NFL that I am not, and
I've got the proof. We'll have that for you here
on Fox Sports Radio. Right now, it is time for

(01:58:55):
a little something we do on the show called this
get your Mind out of the Gunner News the Best
Storyhutter with David. Yeah, we turned it over to the
gas man, David Gascon to find out what disgusting material
he's got for us this weekend. Could you imagine if

(01:59:16):
someone was related to Abe Lincoln here? I mean, that
would blow my mind. It would be awesome. Yeah, Um,
where do you want to go first, l A Baltimore, Florida. Um,
I mean we can go l A Baltimore, Florida. Let's go.
Let's go Florida. Why not super Bowls in Florida. Let's
go Florida. All right? Well, Lamar Jackson, you've heard of him,
probably the league MVP this season, had a little bit

(01:59:38):
of trouble on Thursday during the twenty Pro Bowl Precision
Passing Skills Challenge. Um, jonas he wasn't too effective passing
the football? And how bad was his performance? Will Jarvis Landry,
a wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns, about heard of him? Um?
He actually was more accurate during the Skillis Challenge competition
than Lamar Jackson was. It's so unfair, this is this

(02:00:00):
is bullying at this point, people picking on Lamar Jackson like, Okay,
he but when has he ever been known as the
most accurate quarterback? Why don't they have him and Jarvis
Landry do a fort Yar dask well? Could you imagine?
I mean, come on, of course, I just it feels
like a lot of people continue to want to hold
on to the Lamar Jackson is not a quarterback and
he's not very good, and because the last two times

(02:00:22):
you've seen him were a playoff game in which he
came up short and then also you saw him at
the skills competition and he was whiffing on wind meals
down the field, like, come on, man. I did see
a great video though, behind the scenes with Drew Brees
kids saying that they're they're big fans of Lamar Jackson
was awesome. Yeah, he's fun. He's fun to watch. Man.

(02:00:43):
He's awesome. Yeah, pretty good. Um, so where we going next?
You want to go to Midway? How about this? What's
your your second city doing? Um? Chicago? Midway? Chicago police
say someone stole weed from a cannabis amnesty box at
Midway Airport after the boxes replaced there to stop travelers
from breaking federal laws. What the hell is your second

(02:01:04):
city doing? I don't know, but but how did anybody
know the weed was there? Well, because well they didn't.
But what it is, it's basically this giant box that
people could put anything into. Empolice don't ask any questions.
They just disposed the material after they write up a
report once fighting something inside of it. It was done
just last week at six pm. So there's a it's
a high traffic time of the day at Midway. So

(02:01:28):
so so let me let me see if I got
this correct. So there's a box at Midway Airport that
you can put anything in, no questions asked, if you
don't want to bring it on the plane with you.
I mean, anybody think that's a little alarming. It's only
for pot Sam, Yeah, it's for the states where it's legal,
and you fly back in your state where it's illegal,

(02:01:50):
and basically, um, you have to just give it up.
And it's like you throw it into like kind of
what a lock box. So it's like you no outside
drink into a stadium and you got to throw it
away before you walk through the doors, kind of like that.
And they dropped their bullet in there too. It's weird,
Like that just seems odd to me. Oh man, I
had a really good story, Jonas. Last one is Santa Monica.
Man has been arrested on suspicion of throwing Molotov cocktails

(02:02:12):
on the streets in two cars just last week. How
about that for Super Bowl pre party? Of course he
was Why am I not surprised? He's probably the guy
who's the tin man in Venice looks like it looks
like let us brother, Oh, come on, he does. That's
a drummer for the Pinheads, for God's sake, but love
the pin Heads lead it all on right now. In

(02:02:35):
the NBA, there's one game on the docket as we speak,
with Dallas and Utah going back and forth. Jazz right
now trying to make a comeback to the trail by
seven at home to the Mavericks to eighties six. Luca
don Chech has twenty three points, six rebounds and six assists.
Ruego bearts gotta double double sixteen and thirteen Lakers tonight
in Philadelphia gets the seventies sixers. Tipoff time is at

(02:02:56):
eight thirty Eastern from Wells Fargo Center College Basketball and
at the break, Number fifteen Kentucky leading by two at
Texas Tech thirty six to thirty four. Number seven Dayton
on the road at Richmond leading by eight forty two
earlier today, Kansas had no problems with Tennessee that win
that ball game by six seventy four to sixty eight.
Award to the National Football League, we Go and Corner TMZ.

(02:03:19):
Robert Krafft wants to bring back Tom Brady next season.
And also Mike Gara Fuller's reporting strong safety or Barry
Plans on play next year. There's this one player in
the NFL that's getting a lot of heat. They get criticized,
I think overly criticized, I think unfairly criticized. I will
tell you who that player is coming up momentarily here
on Fox Sports Radio, because the numbers actually support him.

(02:03:43):
So we'll have that for you here Jonas Knocks Fox
Sports Radio. You can listen to the show on the
I Heart Radio app on all of our Fox Sports
Radio affiliates wherever you are taking part in this program
on your Saturday. We appreciate a few minutes your time
as we come to you live from the Geico Fox
Sports Radio studios, where fifteen minutes could save you fift

(02:04:07):
cent or more on car insurance. Visit Geico dot com
for a free rate. Quote. Guy on Twitter. Guy on
Twitter writes in uh it says his name is Jason
person on Twitter. I believe is his Twitter handle H
And he writes in and says, this is one of
the top three best shows I've ever heard on sports

(02:04:29):
talk radio. I would disagree. I would absolutely disagree. I
would vehemently disagree, but I do appreciate the support. Uh so,
so that is coming in and the night another guy
who ripped me for supporting Jimmy Garoppolo, which is exactly
where I'm taking this conversation now. Exactly where I'm taking
this conversation. I've started to see over the past week

(02:04:52):
or so because and this is what happens the Super
bowls two weeks away. When you got this much time,
people are coming up with different store lines each and
every day to talk about. It's why the Zion debut
was perfect when it happened. For the NBA sort of
the in between week, there's not enough juicy storylines out
of the Pro Bowl. The Reesea's Senior Bowl is kind

(02:05:13):
of a specialty thing. You need a scout, you need
somebody who covers these guys to be able to tell
you who's who and what's what. But the Super Bowl,
because there's this week in between, we're looking for things
to discuss. And one of the conversations that's been had
is how it's a tale of two quarterbacks. You've got
Patrick Mahomes, who's brilliant. Patrick Mahomes, who right now in

(02:05:37):
the playoffs has eleven in his playoff career, Patrick Mahomes
has eleven touchdowns and no interceptions. Right, He's three and
one in his playoff career, eleven touchdowns, no interceptions. So
we're talking about a guy at this point in his
young NFL career who's doing things at the playoff level

(02:05:59):
in the biggest moments that are kind of stunning, kind
of incredible. When you consider his performances during the regular season,
the fact that he only gets better in the postseason
just speaks to his talent and his skill sets. So
Patrick Mahomes has been awesome, been absolutely awesome. And then
you've got Jimmy Garoppolo, who's just kinda kind of manage

(02:06:25):
things a little bit, you know, kind of um, you know,
just sort of you know, throwing the ball a couple
of times here, throwing the ball a couple of times there.
And they're both in the Super Bowl, but it's for
different reasons. Patrick Mahomes lighting it up, up and down
the field, a fireworks show, the most exciting player in
the NFL to watch. For my money, right, if if

(02:06:46):
I gotta pay to watch somebody play, I'll go Patrick Mahomes.
I totally get Lamar Jackson he's awesome, but I'll take
Patrick Mahomes and then you've got Jimmy Garoppolo who hasn't
had to do as much. And so there's been some
sort of negative push back towards Jimmy gara Oppolo and
the fact that he hasn't had to do much, that
the rushing attack has carried him, that the defense of
the forty Niners is built so strong that you don't

(02:07:10):
really have to do much but manage the game as
a quarterback, and I totally disagree. I think Jimmy Garoppolo
has been much better than people give him credit for.
I think Jimmy Garoppolo has been really good this year.
Like if you're at a factor in that Jimmy Garoppolo
is coming off a major knee injury and it's his

(02:07:32):
first full year as a starter. The fact that he's
in the super Bowl that should tell you everything you
need to know, but unfortunately it doesn't. We gotta find
something wrong with it. And the point that I made
earlier in the show was, man, everybody gets a break
at work sometimes. If you work a real busy job,
if you work a real difficult job, there's gonna be

(02:07:53):
times where the job is more difficult than others. There's
also gonna be times where maybe there isn't a lot
of business, maybe they're isn't as much work to do,
and maybe you're lounging around and it's kind of a
lazy day and you don't really get a whole bunch done.
How many of those days towards the holidays if you're
if you don't work in retail, if you work in
office job around the holidays, how many of those days

(02:08:16):
are you just kind of hanging out now whatever you're
going on, the holiday break, the winter break, something's coming up,
you're just kind of hanging out in the office. I've
worked in offices before. I know how it goes. You know,
I worked in over the phone sales before marketing. Let
me tell you something. A couple of days before Christmas,
people aren't answering the phone. So what are you doing?
You're playing grab ass with your buddies. Did I feel

(02:08:38):
guilty about it? No, because I knew I busted my
ass every other day of the year. If you work
at a difficult job and there's a couple of slow
days and you're kind of lounging and hanging out, should
you feel guilty about it that you don't have to
do as much during these other days. No, because you
busted your ass earlier in the year. Jimmy Garoppolo has
busted his ass at certain times this season. It just

(02:08:58):
so happens the two games against the Vikings and the
Packers in the postseason, he hasn't had to do as much.
But should he feel guilty about it? Absolutely not people
saying he hasn't done anything, uh to to contribute to
the super Bowl team. I see these memes that go
out and it's a picture of Jimmy Garoppolo and and
and the meme says, uh, when you get an A

(02:09:21):
for your school project, but you don't really contribute anything
to it. It's like, Okay, well, we can say all
that all we want, But I don't know. I remember
watching that Saints game earlier this year when he outdueled
Drew Brees and the Superdome. I was kind of impressed
by that. I don't know about you, but I kind
of was like, you go to these big moments in

(02:09:42):
Garoppolo's career and he's delivered, and so here we are
at the Super Bowl. Garoppolo's here, and all I keep
seeing is people saying, yeah, but he has really done
his part to get to this point. Tell are you
talking about? Mark Willard, who covers the forty Niners and
covers the Bay Area sports former five Sports radio lum
now a host of can b R in the Bay Area.

(02:10:04):
He talked about the backlash that Garoppolo has gotten to
ignore what he's done this year isn't really weak argument,
and the numbers are all over the place. I mean,
he led the league and yards for attempt. Did he
turn it over a little bit too much? Sure you
can make that case necessary early in the year, but
people also forget it's his first full year as a starter,
like he's but he's still a young player in the NFL.

(02:10:28):
So the numbers are there. In the middle of the year,
when the defense got banged up and they needed him
to win shootouts, he did it. The team swears by him, like,
the players love him, love his leadership. Um, they've got
his back all the way around. And so if you're
if you're one of the people saying, gosh, he doesn't
do anything but suth is, you just lead to the party,

(02:10:50):
Like here's someone who just only started watching in the playoffs,
and in those two particular maths, to ignore what he's
done this year isn't really weak. And and so that
was Mark Will to cambr Who who joined us earlier
here on Fox Sports Radio. Look, Jimmy Garoppolo's nineteen and
five as a starter with the forty Niners. I get it,
wins and losses as a quarterback. Look, you gotta count

(02:11:11):
the defense, the rushing attack, all of that. But let's
not forget that Jimmy Garoppolo is coming off that significant
knee injury against ironically, the Kansas City Chiefs a year ago.
So if you, if I were to tell you, you've
got a quarterback coming off a major knee injury and
his first full year as a starter in the NFL,

(02:11:32):
and he's doing this and they're in the Super Bowl,
are we still having the same critical conversation that we're
having right now about Garoppolo. I mean, I would argue
he's only going to get better as a quarterback. He's
only going to improve. I mean, the numbers speak to it.
The numbers tell you like he's been a lot better

(02:11:53):
than anybody wants to acknowledge or admit. I think there's
a couple of things that are happening. Number One, he's
a former Patriot. When he's a former Patriot, he's going
to get unfair criticism. It's just how it's gonna be.
That's just how that's gonna go. If Julian Edelman ever
goes to another team, he's gonna get criticized. It's how
it's gonna be. He's a former Patriot. That's the deal.

(02:12:14):
That's that's what the Patriots have to work with. That's
the reputation, all the winning, all the success, all of
that stuff, and the fact that he got paid early.
But I have argued this, why did Jimmy Garoppolo get paid?
He got paid because Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch were
so impressed with what he did when he first got

(02:12:36):
to San Francisco. I have heard from people that that
I trust credible sources on this. That's say, when he
first got to San Francisco, they were really considering not
playing him that entire season. They made the trade with
New England. They got him at around Halloween time. They
were considering not trading, not playing Jimmy Garoppolo all season,

(02:12:59):
and they finally just id do you know what, what
the hell, let's throw him in there. Garoppolo was new
to the team, had started two games as an NFL
quarterback in New England, didn't know the offense, and went
five and oh. That's why he got paid. That's why

(02:13:21):
he got the contract, because they thought, hold on, if
he can go five and oh with spare parts and
nothing close to the roster that that we've got. Now,
if he can go five and oh, and he doesn't
even know the playbook, what could he possibly do if
he actually learned the playbook? They bring him back the

(02:13:42):
next season and he disintegrates his knee in Kansas City
because he's trying to pick up an extra yard. And
what happened then he was criticized for not going out
of bounds. That's a dumb play. He should have just
gone out of bounds, God forbid. The guy tried to
pick up an extra three feet, God forbid, And so
he tears up his knee. He comes back this year,
they're thirteen and three. He's got more touchdown passes on

(02:14:05):
the season than Patrick Mahomes. And yet I'm seeing that
Jimmy Garoppolo hasn't done his part when it comes to
the forty Niners in this playoff run. Get out of
here with that. I said earlier. If I'm Garoppolo, if
I go out and win the Super Bowl and I
attempt eight passes again, and we win the Super Bowl
and somebody says, hey, jim do you feel like you

(02:14:25):
earned this? I would lift up my pant leg, I'd
show him the scar on my knee, and I'd say,
kiss my ass. I earned this. I've gone through a
lot to get to this point, and he's been much
better than people give him credit for. But unfortunately we
got gotta find something a bitch about. And and the
latest is Jimmy Garoppolo's participation in the forty niners playoff run.

(02:14:47):
It's ridiculous. Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio Studios. You can get me on Twitter
at the Jonas Knocks at the Jonas Knocks Onto It
or all right. Coming up next, I am going to
argue that there's one team who could be on their

(02:15:07):
way out of the playoff picture moving forward in the
National Football League, and that team might surprise you. Find
out who we're talking about next her on fs are
Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio, coming to you live from
the Geico. Fox Sports Radio Studios coming up a little
over ten minutes from now here on fs ARE we
will have the scraps some things in the world of
sports we have not had a chance to touch on.

(02:15:29):
So that would be a little over ten minutes from
now on Fox Sports Radio. I think somebody's gonna have
to give me the Heimlich at some point in the
next half hour. I just smoked a chicken breast, a
grilled chicken breast, and an avocado faster than I want
to see. Uh, Kobayashi or what's that? What's a dorky chestnut?
What's that guy's name? That guy sucks? Uh? That guy

(02:15:52):
he's a flake too. He flaked on an interview, had
it booked, setting Stone ready to talk about some guy
who shovels hot dogs in his mouth like their Reese's
pieces and uh and in steady fla like, that's you
talking about a low moment in my life. Look, I've
been dumped, I've stepped in dog crap, I've had my

(02:16:13):
car breakdown on the side of the road, I've run
out of gas. Um. You know, I've tried to talk
to a woman and been completely rejected and embarrassed. I've
fallen down in public. I've thrown up on myself in public.
I was on a cruise ship and I drank way
too much, uh and ended up rolling over and uh
and what decided to not want to be a part
of my body and my digestive system anymore. All of

(02:16:35):
that stuff. The lowest moment in my life as a
professional is when I got big leagued by Joey f
and Chestnut, some guy who shoves food in his face
for a living. Who the hell is he? What? I
was so humiliated Joey, so I bet against him every

(02:16:56):
single year, and every year I've lost every single year. So, uh, dude,
I don't even know what that is, all right, I
don't know what. I don't know what you're playing. I
don't know what drops you're playing. Sam. Uh it's Chris Farley,
all right? Good? Uh so? But but yeah, I just
shoveled some food in my uh in myself and uh yeah,

(02:17:19):
I didn't didn't sit all that well. I didn't have
a lot of time during the break. So here we go,
all right. So, um, I was talking about the Jimmy
Garoppolo situation and how he's getting a lot of people
are just saying, well, he's not really doing his part,
and he's not really uh chipping in, so to speak,
and he's not really a part of this team, and
blah blah. It's like, all right, fine, but you can

(02:17:40):
go back. You can look at Tom Brady. You can
see what Tom Brady has done early in his career.
I think he had one touchdown pass if I'm not mistaken,
in his first postseason run in which the Patriots went
on to win the Super Bowl and beat the Rams.
But when you go over to Patrick Mahomes, I wonder
if people realize if you just because I know everybody

(02:18:04):
assumes that this is just gonna be what Patrick Mahomes
and the Chiefs are for their entire career. I know,
in the moment, you just assume this is the first
of many. And Patrick Mahomes has been great in the postseason.
But like what if they lose? Like what if Kansas
City loses this game and there's a real likelihood that

(02:18:25):
it happens. Now, what are we talking about? Because Patrick
Mahomes is still on that lower rookie contract, which means
you're not having to commit a bunch of money to him.
You've got Andy Reid, who's been a coach for a
long long time in the NFL, He's had his struggles
in the postseason. If Kansas City loses this game, are

(02:18:48):
we sure they're gonna be back here next year? Are
we sure they're gonna be back here two years from now?
Like we're we're totally sure of that. Like I actually
think if you were to ask me, who's got more
pressure on him in this game? They both both teams
have pressure, but I think it's Kansas City because if
Kansas City loses, all of a sudden, we look back
and go. You had two chances to get to a

(02:19:12):
super Bowl. You succeeded on the second one, you whipped
on the first one, both of them at home. Patrick
Mahomes has not played a road game in the postseason yet.
This is the first non home playoff game for Patrick
Mahomes as a playoff quarterback. So you're the Kansas City Chiefs.
You had two a f C championship games at home,

(02:19:33):
you get to the Super Bowl and one of them
if you lose this one, at some point, you're gonna
have to pay up. At some point, it's gonna be
forty forty something million dollars a year for Patrick Mahomes.
Anybody see what happened to the Rams. The Rams all
of a sudden had to pay Jared Goffin what happened.
Now they're scrambling now, they're trying to add pieces. They

(02:19:54):
didn't win a Super Bowl. They got there a year
ago and they didn't get it done. And now it
changes the conversation. Ask yourself this, are you more confident
in the Rams making a Super Bowl run this time
this year or this time last year? Like if you
if I were to say to you, hey, do you
feel more confident the Rams are gonna win a Super

(02:20:14):
Bowl sometime in the near future, a year ago today
or today, it's a year ago today. That was their opportunity.
Their opportunity was last year against the Patriots in Atlanta,
and they came up short. They whipped on their opportunity.
So I look at Kansas City and I go, I know,
we were celebrating the Homes and he's been awesome. He

(02:20:36):
I mean, he's been awesome, and he's been great in
the postseason. And it's enough of a sample size to
let us know this guy plays really well in big
time games. But if they don't get it done this year.
We could we be looking at a similar RAMS scenario,
and not to mention the super Bowl hangover, which is real,
the super Bowl hangover, which does exist and we see

(02:20:59):
it every single year. I think Kansas City might have
problems moving forward. I I just I look at it.
I go, there's something about this, like this feels like
you gotta strike now. And I feel like the forty
Niners have the least amount of pressure of both teams,
and just from a roster build. Garoppolo's contract and people

(02:21:22):
ripped it at the time. What has he done to
earn that contract? He's got seven wins in his NFL
career and he's got all these millions of dollars. Now
you look back at the deal and you go, that's
kind of a bargain. You know you can work with that.
And when you see that, you know Nick Mullins is
at some success when Garoppolo has been banged up and
beth Third c J. Bethar has has some success. When

(02:21:43):
Garoppolos banged up and you've got a rushing attack like that,
it's a lot easier if something happens to incorporate a
young quarterback in that offense and get things done. I'm
not saying they're as good as Jimmy Garoppolo, but worst
case scenarios, something happens to Garoppolo, you decide you want
to move on. I feel like you've got a roster
built there that it's gonna I'm gonna cooperate with a

(02:22:03):
young quarterback if need be in Kansas City. This is it.
You are all in on Patrick Mahomes, and if you
get an opportunity to close, you better close because they're
no guaranteed you're gonna be back next year. And if
you lose this game, chances are you're not going to
be back next year. And if you pay Patrick Mahomes
that kind of money you're gonna pay them, chances are

(02:22:25):
it's gonna be much more difficult to get back to
this point? How many Super Bowls of the Seahawks have
been back to since they had to pay Russell Wilson
that big time money. Zero like their opportunity and why
players are so piste off when they threw it at
the one yard line and Malcolm buck Butler intercepted it
was they realized the window is closing. Things are gonna

(02:22:47):
change soon. The Seahawks went from a one Super Bowl
team to a potential dynasty that was taken away because
of a one yard decision. I think, hands down, Kansas
City's got more pressure on. I'm going into this game
to get it done now than San Francisco does. Jonas

It's easy. Get me on Twitter at the Jonas Knocks
at the Jonas Knocks on Twitter. Up next, it is
a little something we do on the show. It's called
the Scraps. Things in the world of sports we have
not had a chance to get to. We'll have that
for you next year on fs are but for all

(02:23:31):
the latest from around the world of sports. Uh. Tom
Broke joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Tom, Mr
brokeoff you will who's on the updates today? Yeah? The
GPS back, yeah, previous sah. You brought up that that
scene from True Detective. I had a scale back real
quick and and look at the opening scene two billions

(02:23:55):
and then the opening scene to House to Cards season one,
and I've never seen in any of those how has
or Billions? Now more of a humble guy. I don't
really make billions, and I'm not really in his House
of Cards like a political show like that. I try,
I try, and I keep it to more realistic stuff
like The Outsider on HBO's that's fine. If anybody knows

(02:24:18):
what's going on in that show, fill me in because
I'm lost. You know what? Did you what? Does your
your fiance? Does she watch any these shows? No? Not,
not a big fan of the scary stuff. This isn't scary.
You know, this could be great for your guys honeymoon too.
I'm not really sure what you're getting. You gotta watch it.
Season one of Billions opening scene is is tremendous. Marshawn Lynch.

(02:24:41):
Marshawn Lynch joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Marshawn, Uh,
it would watching the show Billions be good for my honeymoon? Yeah? Okay, well,
I mean I'll take his work for it. Hint hints
cigarette is involved? Oh my god, oh boy, Joe's let's
start things off in the NBA. No, not sorry about that. Yeah,

(02:25:04):
get your pa Utah came from behind to drop the
Dallas Mavericks today. Rudy Gobert had a double double twenty
two points and seventeen rebounds in Salt Lake City Jazz
one twelve, Mavericks one oh seven. Just underway from Detroit,
Pistons by two of the Brooklyn Nets twenty two to
twenty no Javelle McKee for the Lakers. They tip off
in about an hour from now in Philadelphia against the

(02:25:26):
seventies sixers Ben Simmons and Company. And Simmons is averaging
sixteen points a game this season. College basketball scene right now.
Number fifteen Kentucky up by five at Texas Tech fifty
to forty five. Number three Kansas prevailed over Tennessee seventy
four to sixty eight. Number seven Dayton by seventeen at
Richmond two letter and you get Baylor in Florida, and

(02:25:47):
then also Pacific. Is that number two Gainzaga, which is
twenty and one this season. Iowa, we're doing some farmers
stuff today because Iowa doesn't like talking to me, but
we'll do this here in just a couple of quick set.
It's Jonas, thank you. Dave Jonas knocks here on Fox
Sports Radio from the Geico Fox Sports radio studios, where

(02:26:07):
it's easy to say fifteen center. More on car insurance
with Geico go to Geico dot Comical seven Auto. The
only hard part figuring out which way is easier is
the Farmer's insurance open at Tory Pines. You ever been
to Tory Pines, Dave, No, I've only been a Dolmr.
Uh it is, boy, what a rough gig you got?
It is? It is a beautiful, beautiful course. Um, the

(02:26:29):
best part of the course. Do you know what it is? Uh? Well,
I guess the best part of Tory Pines. You know
what it is? No, I do not. The gift shop
they got a candle in there. They got a candle candle. Now, well,
it's not a hundred dollars. Uh. If it was, he
ain't getting that money back. But it is. Uh. I
think it's a frasier for I forget what it's called.

(02:26:51):
But it is cool yearly yearly tri Thank you Dan.
I didn't know Dan was here. Dan. Um, what do
you make of the candle purchase you had? It is
what it is? All right? We that we gotta Dan.
So that is that is Dan Buyer joining us here.
But it is. It is magical. You you smell that
candle and it just makes you think of Tory pines.
So it just always reminds me of that. They say

(02:27:12):
smells bring back memories, Dave. I don't know if you
know that or not. I got a bunch of candles.
No thanks, I'm good. Little candle trick here for those
of you rookies out here looking to shop for certain
candles Valentine's Days coming up. If you want to get
your special lady a candle, if you're that much of
a cheapass, here's what you do. Smell the lid, not
the actual candle. The lid is a more true scent

(02:27:33):
of what the candle will smell like when it's actually burning.
Here's another little something for you here. When you go
to shop for cologne, don't spray it on that little
piece of paper that they give you. That's not the
consistency that you're looking for. You gotta sprayed on your skin.
See how it balances with your skin and your certain
natural oils. And that's how you determine whether or not
it's the right cologne for you. I mean, I'm just telling,

(02:27:56):
I'm tell listen, this is what I do here. I mean,
you never like this shows. I told you to YadA,
all right, put a blindfold on, start swinging away, and
I don't know what pops out. I just gave you
candle and cologne tips right here on National radio. So
what do we do for Valentine's Day? Since it's coming up?
Do we do some aroma therapy? And now you make
sure you're working? That's what you'd call. Yeah, that's what

(02:28:17):
that's bet your assets a veteran move. I've made up
lies about working the last ten years on Valentine's Day, buddy, Sorry,
Like and then you got some guy walks up, walks
up to you at the table in front of her
and says, would you like to buy flowers? If you
say no, you're a cheapass. So instead I pretend like
I'm getting another phone call and I walk out of
the room. So what are you doing at Sharkey's. Well,

(02:28:40):
in that case, you'll you'll do whatever it takes. At
that point, I mean, everything is a prop at that point.
So it's just you know, you you're you're, you're playing
the hits there all right? Coming up twelve minutes from
now here on Fox Sports Radio. Some of the best
prop betting advice you've ever heard on sports talk radio.
If you do bets for the Super Bowl, do not

(02:29:01):
go anywhere. This is a chance for you to make money.
I su not. That's coming up twelve minutes from now.
Right now, though, it's time for a little something we
do on the show called this How could you not
get to? These stories are the scraps? And for that
we turn it back over to the gas man himself,

(02:29:21):
David Gascon, to find out what the hell we've missed
so far on the show. David, Joe, it's not gonna lie.
Steve is big on the Pro Bowl squares. Can we
make something like that happen? Here's here's the thing. And
again he's not here, so he won't hear this, you know, Steve,
He's not he won't even he won't hear this at all.
Steve de Seger, who is a national update anchor here
at Fox Sports trade, He's not currently in the building,

(02:29:43):
so he will not hear any of this. Uh he.
I think he's a closet degenerate gambler. I'm not kidding you.
Like I've seen him gamble with homeless people on the
streets about which car was going to cross the red
light line first, like he like he like just banking
on a I think this car is going to run
a yellow and he's like taking. I keep at a
homeless guy on the streets one time, Um, you know

(02:30:06):
what color shirt the person was wearing when they walk
out of Elpo Loco next door and he said, sorry,
oh Steve is here. I sorry, but I didn't know
Steve was here. But I actually Steve bet a homeless
person the color of the shirt of the customer leaving
the restaurant next door to Fox Sports Radio. The homeless
person actually didn't have any cash on him, and so

(02:30:26):
Steve made him give him his coat. Like that is
what a savage Steve di Sager is when it comes
to gambling. And see every year during this time, Steve's
always that guy winning a TV or winning a phone
because of the Super Bowl, picks a tournaments every time
like a ringer, and he's always in the top three.

(02:30:47):
He's always there, and I'm sick of it. I'm tired
of it. Like the only Dirrance between Steve and Val
Kilmer in as Doc Holiday and Tombstone as he doesn't
have two pistols. Yeah, that's it like Steve is in
the in the top three at every office pool we've
ever done here at Fox Sports Radio, every single one.
He's in the top three. Manga. Yeah exactly, that is

(02:31:14):
that's enough? Uh, their wild bill. Have you ever experimented
with selling stuff on Amazon or eBay or anywhere else? God? No,
those drivers go through enough. Hell, they gotta crap their
pants they can make a delivery time. Are you serious?
Get at? I read this up because someone reportedly has
Freddie Kitchens Cleveland Brown's attire, hoodies, shirts, polos, sleeves and

(02:31:40):
they're selling it on eBay, and a kid you not
because the listing shows that there are three of the
triple X is triple x l's the gear right now
is on on ebays. So pretty Kitchen doesn't wear a
triple X L. You don't think so? Now, that's not
a triple like the like. Look. I could understand if
it was Bob Wiley, who's big ger than Freddie Kitchens.

(02:32:01):
Bob Wiley, the old offensive line coach. Freddie Kitchens doesn't
wear a three X. Maybe he shrank. He doesn't wear
a three X. That I call bs there, So so
are they trying to pawn it off his actual Freddie
Kitchens merchandise. But wouldn't it be something? It was Freddie
Kitchens that was slinging it. Why couldn't he I guess
he couldn't. I mean, why not Pete Rose all the

(02:32:23):
don't know. Look he's that gambling on on on his team. Yes, Um,
how about this early in the week, Cream Hunt was
pulled over by cops? Who's that? Uh? What? Who? What
name do you say to Creme Hunt? Cream Hunt? He
was pulled over this week for speeding? Uh. Cops found
some marijuana in a backpack, didn't really waste too much time,

(02:32:45):
but issued him with citation for speeding how many miles
over the speed? On it was he doing? I didn't say,
all right, here's my rule. And Dave your your dad
was a cop? Um and and by the way, you
don't believe me that Dave's dad was a cop. Tom
broke On joining here on Fox Sport Trading to confirm
whether or not Dave Gascon's dad was a cop. Gascon all,

(02:33:06):
it is from the l A P. D. From the
Los Angeles, Iowa. We get it right there. Uh, here's
my rule? What's that if it's under ten miles an
hour over the over the speed limit. Come on, what
are we talking about? Well, the typical rules. They won't
pull you over unless it's over eleven miles per hour.

(02:33:27):
I don't know. I feel like people have been pulled
over for for less than that. Man, I ran a
stop sign last night, whiles on my cell phone and
come in the opposite way. It was a police officer
and he let you go. You just let me go.
And do you want to know why he lets you go?
Because I was watching billions now, because your dad is
committing the dark streets towards because like I guarantee, uh,

(02:33:50):
And we do have audio. This is from the police
officer that saw Dave a run a run the stop sign.
So the police officer who saw Dave run the stops,
they actually called him into the precinct. They sat him
down and they were ordered a cuff of coffee. They
were sitting there having a discussion and they said to
the police officer, so why did you let Dave Gascon

(02:34:12):
run that stop sign? And the cops said, because he's
the son of right there. Just uh, look, Dave, I
mean sometimes you get the perks. Yeah, you try really
hard to make sure I was Sam was paying attention.
He always is. He doesn't die to my job. By
the way, I faced timed with Iowa Sam and his
mom last night. Sam was time traveling, drunk and trying

(02:34:34):
to pass off, and his mom was so annoyed with him,
and she just wanted to be left alone. That's really good.
We had some wine less night. What else did you have?
Maybe some great fruit I P A with the I
P A. Yeah, yep. You know you're in a beach
town like Santa Barbara, you tend to be a pretty
relaxed yeah, and he was. He definitely was. Then I

(02:34:58):
get up at five am. Your mom? Your mom was
so annoyed with you? Was she nice? Is she very nice? Yeah?
She's awesome. That's pretty good. Um, I know. Obviously a
lot of shadow with Zian Williamson making this return. New
York Knicks announced today that r J. Barrett has taken
his crutches off. He's down a walking boot. He's gonna
be re evaluating in a few weeks. Um, are you
excited least about the rookies that have come in? John

(02:35:21):
Moran obviously he's on and RJ. Barrett trying to make
a name whatever I mean I just I'm football has
been so good this year that I'm I'm kind of
I mean, I'm paying attention to the NBA. I know
what's going on. Um, I'm hoping it's Lakers Clippers in
the playoffs. I hope we get that match up. I
Luca has been fantastic, Jimmy Butler has been awesome with

(02:35:43):
the heat. So I'm paying attention. But it's just like,
I gotta get through football season and then really start
to take a deep dive. Well, so how about this
then once the XFL season starts, how much attention do
you put there? I'm gonna watch the XFL. Man, that's
where to god I am. By the way, did you
see that Caesar's Palace has set over underwind totals on
XFL team? I swear to get over underwind totals on

(02:36:08):
XFL team l A Wildcats with Norm Chow baby, like,
I am tempted to bet the under on every team
and just see how I do. Like, who know, you
have no idea how how these teams are going to
be about this. I can give Brian no a call
and we could fade whatever he takes. That's not very nice. Yeah,
that's not very nice at all. That's not very nice

(02:36:29):
at all. I'm a fan of Brian No, and I
don't think it's it's very fair for Dave Gascon to
go on national radio and mock a guy who maybe
is going through a little bit of a tough time gambling. Well,
we got colleagues are degenerates, Gavin Kinsell, Brian No. That
is a fact. Yeah, there are there are degenerate gambling
employees here at Fox Sports Radio. Absolutely. Last couple right now,

(02:36:53):
Tom Brady coming back, according to Robert Kraft next season
with the Pats. Uh. I mean, I would bet yes
he is. But I'm really hoping he goes to the
Raiders and plays in Las Vegas because I predicted it
two months ago and I'll look like a genius. But
and and by the way, Lee, can we confirm if
Tom Brady does go back to New England and not

(02:37:14):
to Las Vegas, can we go back and delete all
of those posts that promoted me saying that on Fox
Sports Radio on Awesome. Thanks, there's Lead Lap, the son
of Robert de Lap, the drummer for the Pinheads and
back to the future. Real story. Look up the IMDb.
Robert de Lap and the IMDb. That's his dad. That
guy has been to about five or six um television

(02:37:38):
slash movie parties over the last week week and a half.
I haven't got one phone call from him. Yeah, I
just get these snap Chat photos from him with all
the ladies he's been with. It's been amazing. Yeah, that's
I don't have snap face or instat book, So I'm
not really uh like I don't I don't have like
all that stuff like instat Chat and and and face face, Like,

(02:37:59):
I don't have any of that. Sas far as as
far as like some of the stuff you just you

(02:38:21):
a bad mood. This is ridiculous. Jones's last one things
are holding right now San Francisco and Kansas City for
next weekend. The super Bowl in the public is on
Kansas City and there minus one with an over under
total at fifty four and a half yeah, I'm gonna
get I just I'm falling for Kansas City. No I

(02:38:41):

a it's it's like my love life. I always fall
for the ten with the drug problem and not the seven.
Who's the assault of the earth. So what's your fiance?
A ten with no drug problem? Paint me into a corner.
I'll paint myself out like I gotta go. There's a

(02:39:03):
figure of speech. I don't mean literally. It could be
a good thing, but yeah, she isn't tech all right,

(02:40:07):
Sports Radio. So I mentioned this, Uh, it's prop betting season.
The Super Bowl has got a bunch of crazy props
out there, coin flips, color of the Gatorade national anthem,
all the other craft that you see. Also will Kyle
Shanna Ambloe lead You guys are really negative when it
comes to even thinking about betting on that. Steve Pezick
is a Fox Sports radio host. He's also one of

(02:40:28):
the best sports handicapplers, handicappers and betters in the country.
Like he's won the Super Contest, which is the biggest
NFL betting event every single season. He's won it twice,
only got to do so, and he did it in
back to back years. So you hear him on Fox
Sports Radio. He's part of pregame dot Com. I asked
Steve Pezick on my show this weekend here on fs ARE,

(02:40:49):
I said, what to look out for when it comes
to the prop bets at the Super Bowl. Avoid the
needle in the haystack props. Avoid endlessly analyzing who's going
to score the first touchdown? What's the exact number of
points Kansas City is going to score? Oh, is Patrick
Mahomes going to throw for between three hundred and three
twenty yards or three or three to three sixty Because

(02:41:13):
those needle and haystack props where there's dozens and dozens
of outcomes and only one of them can win. So
the edge for the bookie is ten times higher than
making a bet on a yes no prop And that
was Steve Psi talking about it, and it's a good point. Look,
sometimes you get in there and you just get so
excited you start shopping for everything. It's like being in
a store. How many of you end up buying stuff

(02:41:36):
you really don't need, but because it's you're like, well,
I gotta have that. Like, no, you already have two
bottles of wind decks. You don't need a third because
it's under a dollar. What are you doing? But that's
what happens. There's so many prop bets out there that
it's sort of information overload, and you end up going
way over the top when it comes to looking at
at some of these numbers and some of these bets
that are out there. Also said this when it came

(02:42:00):
to a certain prop bet that he loves going into
next weekend's game. I'm gonna give out my physics lock
prop of the center here. We're gonna bet Patrick Mahomes
rush yards. I just bet this last night. I got
over twenty eight and a half yards rushing at the
south point. The reason is such a great bet is
that Kansas City is vulnerable to running quarterbacks. Further, Mahomes

(02:42:23):
is running the ball so much more during the playoffs.
He's rushed for fifty three yards in both his playoff games.
It's being set more upon his regular season average. And
once the public does the analysis and the work on
this prop, everyone's gonna bet this. So a week from now,
it's going to be at thirty five instead of twenty
eight and a half. Bet Mahomes rush yards over twenty

(02:42:45):
eight and a half now. So Steve Physick talked about
that on my show less than twenty four hours ago.
That line has already gone up to two yards. It's
now thirty and a half. He said, within a week
this is going to go up to thirty five because
when the people who really know their stuff realize that

(02:43:06):
Patrick Mahomes is being priced wrong, they're gonna jump on
this and it's going to continue to move up. Since
he placed the bed less than forty eight hours ago,
it's already gone up to thirty and a half. So
there's really good value that you can make money on
all this stuff. You can have a really good time
in doing so, but you've got to be smart about it.
And so a couple of those pointers. Watch the needle

(02:43:28):
in the haystacks stuff and the Patrick Mahomes total rushing yards.
It's already gone up. Get in on it now if
you like it, because it's only going to continue to
rise as the game approaches. Uh. Fun show here on
Fox Sports Radio for Iowa, Sam, David Gascon and lead
to Lap the Son of the Pinheads drummer. I'm Jonas Knox.
We will be back next week right here on Fox

(02:43:51):
